Mnangagwa Torments Own Challenger

Tinashe Sambiri|Zanu PF man Sybeth Musengezi who is challenging Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s legitimacy has been hauled to court for allegedly acquiring a party card fraudulently.

Musengezi argues Mr Mnangagwa illegally rose to power following the removal of Robert Mugabe from power via a military coup.

According to a NewsDay report Musengezi, a former Zanu PF youth league member, appeared in court on Friday.

See NewsDay article below:
…Represented by Doug Coltart and Nqobani Sithole, Sybeth Musengezi appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda and was remanded in custody to today for bail hearing.

The State said Musengezi used various addresses to fraudulently obtain a Zanu PF card and contest the party’s elections.

“The other address which the accused submitted did not exist. There is another address in Budiriro which the accused used, but it was confirmed that the accused did not reside there,” the State submitted.

“Musengezi’s homestead in Mt Darwin was another address which was used and following investigations we discovered that the accused never resided there….”

There are six witnesses in the case, the State said.

The State averred that Musengezi was a bad candidate for bail because he had business interests outside the country and was likely to flee.

The court alleges that on a date yet to be established in 2012, Musengezi acting in common purpose with Allen Chisuko and Taurai Mutimbanyoka misrepresented to Zanu PF that he resided at House Number 4315 Hatcliffe Extension, Harare in order to become a member of the party’s Muzinda 1A district.

The court heard that as a result of the misrepresentation, Musengezi fraudulently became a member of that district.

The State also alleges that in 2019 the accused again connived with Mutimbanyoka and misrepresented that he Musengezi, was a cell member of Zanu PF’s Mai Chitepo branch (Muzinda 1 district) and that he resided at house number 4461 Hatcliffe Extension, Harare.

As a result of the misrepresentation, Musengezi became eligible to contest for a Zanu PF branch post.

About New Malaria Prevention Strategies

As World Malaria Day approaches, more than 1 million children in Ghana, Kenya and Malawi have received one or more doses of the world’s first malaria vaccine, thanks to a pilot programme coordinated by WHO. The malaria vaccine pilots, first launched by the Government of Malawi in April 2019, have shown that the RTS,S/AS01 (RTS,S) vaccine is safe and feasible to deliver, and that it substantially reduces deadly severe malaria.

These findings paved the way for the historic October 2021 WHO recommendation for the expanded use of RTS,S among children living in settings with moderate to high malaria transmission. If widely deployed, WHO estimates that the vaccine could save the lives of an additional 40 000 to 80 000 African children each year.

More than US$ 155 million has been secured from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance to support the introduction, procurement and delivery of the malaria vaccine for Gavi-eligible countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

WHO guidance is available to countries as they consider whether and how to adopt RTS,S as an additional tool to reduce child illness and deaths from malaria.

“As a malaria researcher in my early career, I dreamed of the day we would have an effective vaccine against this devastating disease,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “This vaccine is not just a scientific breakthrough, it’s life-changing for families across Africa. It demonstrates the power of science and innovation for health. Even so, there is an urgent need to develop more and better tools to save lives and drive progress towards a malaria-free world.”

Prospects for new interventions
RTS,S is a first-generation vaccine that could be complemented in the future by other vaccines with similar or higher efficacy. WHO welcomes progress in the development of R21/Matrix-M and other malaria vaccine candidates in early clinical development. The successful completion of clinical trials for these vaccines will be important to assess their safety and efficacy profiles. WHO also welcomes the news from BioNTech, manufacturer of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, that it aims to develop a malaria vaccine using mRNA technology.

In the field of vector control, a number of new tools and technologies have been submitted to WHO for evaluation. Should they demonstrate efficacy in controlling the disease, WHO will formulate new recommendations or amend existing ones to support their deployment. These include, for example, new types of insecticide-treated nets, spatial mosquito repellents, gene-drive approaches and sugar baits designed to attract and kill Anopheles mosquitoes.

There are also new medicines in the pipeline. WHO welcomes the recent approval by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration of dispersible tablets of single-dose tafenoquine for the prevention of P. vivax malaria among children. Tafenoquine has also been approved for use in adults by the US Federal Drug Administration and by drug regulatory bodies in other countries, including Brazil, Peru and Thailand. As a single dose, tafenoquine is expected to support patient adherence to treatment. The current standard of care requires a 7- or 14-day course of medication.

A number other antimalarial medicines with new modes of action are being developed for the treatment of uncomplicated and severe malaria. Ganaplacide-Lumefantrine, currently in a Phase II clinical trial, is the first non-artemisinin combination therapy and could be an asset in fight against emerging drug-resistant malaria in Africa.

In addition to drug resistance, WHO has reported other pressing threats in the fight against malaria, such as mosquito resistance to insecticides, an invasive malaria vector that thrives in urban and rural areas, and the emergence and spread of mutated P. falciparum parasites that are undermining the effectiveness of rapid diagnostic tests. Innovation in tools and strategies will be critical to contain these threats, together with a more strategic use of the tools that are available today.

More investment needed
According to the 2021 World malaria report, global progress in reducing malaria cases and deaths has slowed or stalled in recent years, particularly in countries hardest hit by the disease. The report notes the need for continued innovation in the research and development of new tools if the world is to achieve the 2030 targets of the WHO malaria strategy.

Funding for malaria-related research and development reached just over US$ 619 million in 2020. An average annual R&D investment of US$ 851 million will be needed in the period 2021–2030.

Making better use of the tools we have now
Reaching global malaria targets will also require innovations in the way that currently available tools are deployed. Through the “ High burden to high impact” approach, launched by WHO and the RBM Partnership to End Malaria in 2018, countries hardest hit by malaria have been collecting and analysing malaria data to better understand the geographical spread of the disease.

Instead of applying the same approach to malaria control everywhere, they are considering the potential impact of tailored packages of interventions informed by local data and the local disease setting.

These analyses will enable countries to use available funds in a more effective, efficient and equitable way.

Vic Falls Man Killed By Elephant

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZIMPARKS) has reported that a man was killed by an elephant in Victoria Falls last night.

ZIMPARKS spokesperson, Tinashe Farawo, made the announcement this Saturday encouraging members of the public to minimise movements during the night. He said:

It is with great sadness that a man was killed by an elephant in Vic Falls last night. So far 35 people have been killed in Human-Wildlife Conflict (HWC) across the country. ZIMPARKS encourages communities to minimize movements at night, do not provoke them, and give them space.

35 people have been killed in HWC this year while more than 60 people were killed last year.

Early this week, two elephants that had been found loitering in Chiteni Village under Chief Ndanga, Zaka, were shot and killed by the Zimparks after villagers reported the matter to the police. The meat was given to the villagers, according to Information Secretary, Nick Mangwana.

Human Wildife conflict is a serious challenge in Zimbabwe.

Zimbos Stranded In Musina As Local Protest Poor Service Delivery

By A Correspondent- Scores of Zimbabwe-bound motorists, haulage truckers and passenger buses were stranded in South Africa on Thursday when residents of Musina went on strike protesting poor service delivery by their municipality.

Parts of Musina, particularly the high-density of Nancefield, have gone for three weeks without running water forcing residents to take   to the streets to register their displeasure.

The protesters burnt tyres, barricading roads leading to Beitbridge Border Post.

In a media release yesterday, the South African Police Services (Saps) said four suspects were arrested for leading the protests that disrupted Zimbabwe-bound traffic.

“More arrests are expected…During the protests, community members went on the rampage, blocked and burned tyres on the roads and some shops in Nancefield location and Musina town were looted. The protesters also damaged a police vehicle, torched a municipal tractor and some municipal buildings,” read part of the Saps statement.

Musina residents mostly complained about poor service delivery.

“The town is crippled. All shops are closed and youths are toy-toying in protests. They have blocked all the major roads in and out of the town. Blockages are from the tollgate 20 kilometres south of the town where protesters have camped on the N1 Highway,” a shop assistant told Southern Eye from Musina.

“We have been buying water from  vendors because our taps are dry.”

Officials from the Musina Municipality who were part of a South African delegation that toured Beitbridge recently on their way to the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo said they were keen to get water supplies from Zimbabwe.

On Thursday, Zimbabwe’s Agriculture minister Anxious Masuka said government prioritised fixing Beitbridge’s water problems before exporting the commodity.

“We have to satisfy our citizens first before we export. Plans are there, but we have to deal with our own supplies first,” Masuka said.

Victory For The Mugabes

By A Correspondent- High Court judges of appeal on Thursday ruled in favour of the late former President Robert Mugabe’s children who are challenging the exhumation of their father’s remains for re-burial at the National Heroes Acre.

Bona Mutsahuni, Tinotenda and Bellarmine were challenging an order for the exhumation of Mugabe’s remains and confiscation of their livestock as ordered by Chief Zvimba, Stanley Mhondoro.

In the judgment, Justices Amy Tsanga and Fatima Maxwell ruled against Chinhoyi magistrate Ruth Moyo who had ruled Mugabe’s children had no rights to appeal against a judgment handed by the traditional court against their mother, Grace.

In May 2021, Chief Zvimba ordered the exhumation of Mugabe from his  rural home. The court also fined Grace for breaking burial rites and defaulting.

A messenger of court was granted authority to seize five heifers and a goat, which the Zvimba chief said was for cleansing of the country.

Bona and her siblings were aggrieved by the ruling and took the matter to court.

Bona said she was duly appointed executor to the estate of her father, hence her interest in the matter.

The appeal at the lower court was challenged by Tinos Manongovere, a villager who initiated the matter. The magistrates upheld Manongovere’s challenge.

Bona and her siblings then appealed against the ruling at the High Court which ruled in their favour.

“In the context of customary law, the court finds no absurdity in allowing any person aggrieved by a decision of a community court to appeal against it, even though the aggrieved person was not a party in proceedings before the community court,” the judges ruled.

“The court below erred in restricting the right of appeal to persons who were parties in proceedings before the community court. On the basis of the above, the first and second grounds of appeal succeed.

“The appeal be and is hereby allowed with costs. The judgment of the court a quo is set aside and is substituted as follows, the first preliminary point be and is hereby dismissed and costs be in the cause.”

The judges also referred the matter back to Chinhoyi Magistrates Court for continuation of the hearing.

During the hearing, Bona and her siblings argued that no one except them had the authority over their father’s grave, warning that anyone who would tamper with it would be committing a criminal offence as outlined in the Burial Act.

Through their lawyer, Tawanda Zhuwarara, Mugabe’s children insisted that the lower court must first determine if the traditional leader who ordered the exhumation and reburial had the rights to do so.

Mugabe died aged 95 in September 2019 and was buried at Kutamba after his family refused to have him interred at the National Heroes Acres.-newsday

Manhunt For Violent Mapostori

By A Correspondent- Police in Wedza, Mashonaland East province, have launched a manhunt for 12 Mugodhi Apostolic Faith Church members over the violence that erupted at the church’s headquarters during Easter.

The suspects are all members of a faction led by Washington Mugodhi who allegedly assaulted a rival faction on April 14 as the fight for control of the church turned ugly.

Five church members were arrested and taken to Marondera Magistrates Court on public violence charges. They were remanded to May 20 on $15 000 bail each.

According to police, the majority of the suspects are from Masvingo province.

The suspects were identified in a video that was shot during the melee at the shrine.

The church has been rocked by a bitter leadership wrangle following the death of Thadeau Mugodhi in 2019.

The late Mugodhi had appointed his son Washington as successor, a move that angered other sect members who described it as unconstitutional.

One Tonny Sigauke, who claimed to be the rightful heir according to the church constitution, has taken Washington to court for clinging to the throne.

In September 2021, High Court judge Justice Esther Muremba ruled  that Sigauke did not have authority to represent the church while Washington’s appointment was declared null and void.

Businessman Nabbed Bonking Married Woman

By A Correspondent- Adultery is thrilling until the moment you are busted having sex in a car with someone’s wife.

Ask Bulawayo businessman Ramutsikabotlalo Mokoena, he will tell you that as much as stolen waters are sweet, being caught drinking from a forbidden fountain comes with much hurt.

Mokoena, who prefers to be called Ramutsi, was found having car sex with a married woman, Sihle Mlotshwa, by her husband, Sipho Mlotshwa in the wee hours of Monday in Nketa suburb.

And guess where the lovebirds were parked? Just next to Sipho’s house! “Sipho arrived home unexpectedly at around 4am from work.

To his shock when he stepped into the living room, he found their child sleeping on the sofa alone. He checked for his wife but she was not in the house,” said a close source who requested not to be named.

The source said Sipho then decided to go ask his wife’s friend about Sihle’s whereabouts, only to see her being intimate with another man just outside the friend’s gate!

Sipho dragged Ramutsi outside his car and bashed him. Hearing the noise outside, neighbours rushed out to see what was happening.

“They were shocked to find a shameful Ramutsi sitting in the driver’s seat trying to cover his genitals. Sihle tried in vain to evade the prying eyes of neighbours by squatting on the foot well and hid her face with a towel,” a neighbour said.

Ramutsi initially pleaded with B-Metro to drop the story:

“You know what my bro, the story will totally destroy my marriage and my business. I will do something for you. May I kindly come and meet up with you.”

Pressed on why he slept with Sipho’s wife he said: “I didn’t want to go, but that woman kept on phoning me in the end I had to drive to Nketa suburb and unfortunately we were caught having sex.”

Later, Ramutsi backtracked and sent this reporter a message on WhatsApp.

“I don’t understand why you have an image of me naked. And to say I was having sex with someone, where in the picture you sent to me the person, I was having sex with?

As a journalist I think you fully know that in Zimbabwe it is illegal to produce, possess or distribute pornographic material. How did you come by the photograph you sent to me?”

“I was assaulted, had my property damaged, robbed of my money and clothes in the process and this image is evidence to prove it (sic).”

After sending the message, he blocked this reporter.

Sipho confirmed the incident and said:

“He requested to pay a cow for sleeping with my wife. He has not paid me yet. Now I’m planning on which move to take.”

Efforts to get a comment from Sihle were fruitless as she cut calls.B Metro

Man Beats To Death Own Wife

By A Correspondent- A man from Tsholotsho has been arrested after he thrashed his wife with a Mopani stick, kicked her and stomped her throat resulting in her dying after he busted her sleeping on her alleged lover’s bed.

According to a source close to the case, Qhelani Tshabalala from Maphani Line in Tsholotsho, which falls under Chief Mathuphula’s jurisdiction, had been married to Kujani Mudenda (32) for a couple of years.

On Sunday at around 6pm, while Tshabalala was at Mlagisa business centre, one of his brothers approached him and told him that his wife was in a room with her secret lover.

The shocked Tshabalala rushed to the room and found his wife lying on the bed of a man named Tinashe (surname not provided), but Tinashe was not in the room.

Tshabalala teamed up with his two brothers, Phethani Tshabalala and Zenzo Tshabalala and together they tried to hunt down Tinashe but they failed to find him.

After the fruitless manhunt, Tshabalala force marched his wife home.

“While they were on the way, he quizzed her on why she was sleeping in Tinashe’s room and why she came to the business centre without telling him.

“He thrashed her several times with a mopani stick all over the body and kicked her in the face before stomping her on the throat,” said the source close to investigations.

Mudenda fell unconscious, the source said, and Tshabalala panicked and rushed to inform his mother. His mother, the source said, prepared porridge and took it to the scene.

“They found her breathing with difficulty and she tried to feed her with porridge but she died in her arms,” said the source.

They reported the matter to the police leading to Tshabalala’s arrest.

Police took the deceased’s body to the United Bulawayo Hospitals for post-mortem.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson Glory Banda confirmed the incident.

Insp Banda urged community members to engage relatives, friends, pastors, traditional leaders rather than to take the law into their hands.

Spirited efforts to get a comment from Tshabalala’s mother (Eveline) were fruitless.BMetro

Justin Bieber Banned From Buying Ferrari

Ferrari has banned singer Justin Bieber from ever buying its cars again accusing the singer of violating car-modification rules.

According to the Italian press, it all started when Justin parked his Ferrari 458 near a Beverly Hills nightclub and left it there for two weeks.

Then, in 2016, he modified the vehicle at a California auto repair shop that was not affiliated with the brand. Justin painted the car a shade of blue to replace the original white and added a 2 000-watt sound system and a Liberty Walk body kit.

In the same year, he was arrested for driving without a license. Not satisfied, the singer even auctioned off the car for $434 500 in 2017.

The transformation into the car and the sale violate Ferrari’s code of ethics, which prohibits owners from repainting models and auctioning them off without authorization.

The series of violations resulted in the company vetoing the artist from its client list.

Ferrari is an Italian luxury sports car manufacturer based in Maranello, Italy.

Founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1939 from the Alfa Romeo racing division as Auto Avio Costruzioni, the company built its first car in 1940 and produced its first Ferrari-badged car in 1947.

Man Bitten By Own Dogs Dies

By A Correspondent- A man from Selbourne Park, a low-density suburb in Bulawayo, has died after he was attacked by his own dogs.

The dogs mistook John Gavhera (61) for an intruder and attacked him after jumping over his gate, having forgotten his keys at work. Reads a police memo:

The deceased jumped over the gate since he had forgotten the gate keys and since no one was at home and went inside the house to collect his toolbox. In no time the deceased was then heard rebuking his dog by a student who stays next door.

The neighbours then saw through the precast wall the deceased lying on the ground whilst three Boer bull dogs were biting him all over the body, dragging him and tearing his clothes.

Observations at the scene were that there were three big, vicious Boer bull cross breeds which were inside the yard which is durawalled (precast wall) and has a black gate. A torn work suit and phone was found near the gate, a blue monarch bag with tools was also found at the gate.

The neighbours could only watch the incident unfold from a distance as they feared the dogs would attack him.

The dogs were stopped when police were called in about 40 minutes later.

Gavhera was taken to a medical facility, where he eventually succumbed to the injuries that evening.

“Zanu Pf Buying Chief’s Loyalty With Perks Ahead Of 2023”: CCC

chiefs

By A Correspondent- The opposition Citizens Coalition Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa, yesterday accused ZANU PF of trying to buy the loyalty of traditional leaders ahead of the 2023 general elections.

This comes as the government is planning to review traditional leaders’ allowances, put them on medical aid, service their vehicles and allocate them fuel, to cushion them against economic turbulences.

CCC spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere,  accused the ruling party of trying to bribe chiefs. She said:

We condemn this brazen attempt to buy the loyalty of chiefs with trinkets. We respect the role and importance of traditional leaders but we are opposed to them being used to participate in partisan politics.

Traditional leaders must be non-partisan and put the interests of the citizens they lead ahead of any partisan agenda.

Chapter 15.2 of the Constitution forbids traditional leaders from being members of any political party or in any way participating in partisan politics.

Traditional leaders have faced accusations of being ZANU PF appendages with Chiefs Council president Fortune Charumbira openly declaring his allegiance to the ruling party.

But Zanu PF director of information Tafadzwa Mugwadi said the ruling party does not believe in bribing people to vote for it adding, “Our secret to victory is servant leadership and development.”

Last year, Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga warned chiefs that they risked being stripped of their positions for criticising the ZANU PF government.

Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Obert Masaraure said the government should also show the same zeal to improve the welfare of civil servants.-newsday

Tanzanian Quartet Nabbed Over Illegal Pharmaceutical Drugs

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested four foreign nationals in Beitbridge over possession of illegal pharmaceutical drugs.

In a report, seen by this publication, police said the suspects include three Democratic Republic of Congo nationals and one Tanzanian. Reads the report:

The ZRP confirms the arrest of four foreign nationals on 11/05/22 for possession of illegal Pharmaceutical drugs at Pande 2, Beitbridge. The suspects who include three Democratic Republic of Congo nationals and one Tanzanian were trying to cross the Limpopo River into SA.

Police recovered 5 boxes biunique, 3 boxes amoxylene, 05 boxes ibucap, 10 boxes c4, 10 boxes cypomex, 4 packs ongaspies, 84x310ml energy drinks, 1 box relief tablets, 1 box vanilla sugar, 1 box kifarm 100 tablets, 1 box of anti-mosquito, 5x100ml bottle cypomex, 2 boxes of comprimido and 6 suspected precious stones.

In a related case, police in Harare arrested 34 suspects on the 12th of this month for smoking dagga and unlawful possession of dangerous drugs at Matute Flats, Mbare and Copacabana areas.

Police recovered 36×100 mls of Bronclear Cough Syrup approximately valued at ZWL$45 000.

Counterfeit pharmaceutical drugs have been flooding Zimbabwean streets and have been attracting huge interest from members of the public who cannot afford to buy from registered pharmacies due to the deteriorating state of affairs. While cheaper, counterfeit drugs have the potential to negatively affect the health of those who use them.

UK Attacks Former Zim-Envoy Over Mnangagwa Ties

The United Kingdom parliament has attacked the former British ambassador to Zimbabwe, Catriona Laing, over her links with Zanu PF.

UK lawmakers said Laing’s links with Zanu PF resulted in her misleading the British government into believing President Emmerson Mnangagwa was a reformist.

Laing was the UK ambassador to Zimbabwe from 2014 and oversaw the transition from the Mugabe administration to the Mnangagwa regime while supporting Zanu PF and allegedly misleading London.
Debating in the UK Parliament last week, the British MPs said despite glaring misgivings on Mnangagwa’s capacity to usher in a new era divorced from human rights violations, corruption and other vices, their former ambassador, now the country’ top diplomat in Nigeria, was surprisingly close to Zanu PF, particularly Mnangagwa.

Laing was accused of failing to give reports on the real situation on the ground ahead of the coup and the 2018 elections.

Kate Hoey, member of the House of Lords in the UK, told the House that they visited Zimbabwe together with other lawmakers ahead of the 2018 elections and wrote a “depressing report” that also indicated how surprised they were of Laing’s close Zanu-PF ties.

“In 2018, just before the last presidential election I, along with the right honourable Conor Burns, visited Zimbabwe to write a report for the UK branch of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association on the possibilities of a free and fair election and the chances of Zimbabwe rejoining the Commonwealth,” Hoey said.

“We did not put Zimbabwe out, of course: it left. It was a depressing report. The Zimbabwean Electoral Commission (Zec) was not impartial and the voter roll was inadequate, for starters. The constitution was being ignored, so we wrote of our disappointment and surprise that our ambassador at that time seemed to be so close to the ruling Zanu-PF party,” she said.

However, Hoey saluted the current UK ambassador to Zimbabwe, Melanie Robinson, for doing a great job.

“I have to say that the current ambassador is doing a great job and is widely respected,” Hoey added.

She said they sounded warnings that Mnangagwa was not a reformist and likely to perpetuate Mugabe’s heavy-handedness.

“Many of us in the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Zimbabwe at that time tried to warn of the danger and futility of expecting change from Mnangagwa. Not for nothing is he known as the crocodile. We were dismissed by some as needlessly pessimistic and lacking understanding of his desire to change but, as forecast, the pattern set by Mugabe was carried forward with sustained intensity and vigour, complying with plans cunningly crafted with the help of the military. Those had been planned for some time. Unfortunately too many of the agencies working in the country and too many diplomats initially fell for his lies and rather evil charm,” Hoey said.

“We were told that a new chapter of peace, economic efficiency and prosperity would be opened up. They have certainly opened up a new chapter, but it is the same horror story of corruption, greed and violent oppression. The only expertise Zanu-PF has ever shown, I am afraid, is in brutality, lying, theft and terror.”

In 2018, Laing was forced to deny Hoey and Burns’ allegations that she showed bias towards Mnangagwa and mocked then MDC-Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa in the run-up to the elections.

She was also under fire for being aloof following the army-led 1 August 2018 shootings that killed six unarmed civilians.

“We were disappointed at how every element of civil society and politicians outside Zanu-PF had the belief that the UK embassy — and in particular the ambassador is biased in favour of the incumbent regime,” the report read.

“Huge offence was taken that our ambassador wore a Mnangagwa scarf outside 10 Downing Street earlier this year on her visit to the UK. This offence and fear of bias was compounded when the first person to re-tweet it from his official account was Mnangagwa himself.”

“The embassy organised a dinner for us to meet some Zimbabweans and we found that most were supporters of Zanu-PF. Indeed prior to the dinner the ambassador was openly ridiculing the leader of the MDC-Alliance,” the two MPs said in their critical report.

On 5 August 2018, Laing took to microblogging site Twitter to deny reports of ridiculing Chamisa.

“I certainly did not ridicule Chamisa who I recognize as a major political figure in Zimbabwe. I believe he and I have a good relationship and we meet regularly. We had a good meeting just before election, discussing his plans if he won, and we spoke soon after,” she said.

In 2016, even the late former MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai warned of the Western diplomats’ views on Mnangagwa as a reformist in apparent reference to Laing.

“I was with one of the ambassadors who was talking about Mnangagwa being a pragmatist, but I said he is a pragmatist on other issues, but a hardliner on issues of governance and democracy,” he said then.

“Mnangagwa’s statement confirms that he is a hardliner, he has always been and not the reformist and pragmatist that some in the diplomatic community have begun to think he is.”

Chamisa In Army Recruitment Interview Questions

By- The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) recruits who qualified for the second phase of vetting after running a timed 10km marathon last month were examined over their opinions on Nelson Chamisa becoming Zimbabwe’s president.

The 44-year-old former ICT Minister is the leader of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).

ZimLive interviewed two people who took part in the vetting exercise and corroborated the information.

After undergoing a medical examination, the recruits were sat down for a written test which featured 23 questions starting with the requirement to write a two-page biography.

Speaking on condition they were not named, the would-be recruits recalled that they were asked

i). Given the history of Zimbabwe which you know, how do you view Mr Nelson Chamisa being the next head of state?

ii). Zimbabwe is facing economic challenges. Which political party do you wish to win in 2023?

iii). Do you see Mr Nelson Chamisa winning the 2023 harmonised elections, why do you think so?

The military top brass, according to sources, has in recent years ordered recruiters to give preference to young recruits who attended rural schools owing to a perception that those who attended city schools are aligned with the opposition.

Chamisa’s spokesperson Nkululeko Sibanda said if the reports are true, they represented an abuse of state institutions.

He added that the army should not be aligned with any political party.

The military has in the past been accused of campaigning for the ruling ZANU PF and terrorising members of the opposition.

Court Blocks Mugabe Re-burial

By- The High Court has ruled against the exhumation of the former President Robert Mugabe’s body.

The Hight Thursday ruled in favour of the late former President’s children who are challenging the exhumation of their father’s remains for re-burial at the National Heroes Acre.

Bona Mutsahuni, Tinotenda and Bellarmine were challenging the exhumation of Mugabe’s remains and confiscation of their livestock as ordered by Chief Zvimba, Stanley Mhondoro.

In the judgment, Justices Amy Tsanga and Fatima Maxwell ruled against Chinhoyi magistrate Ruth Moyo who had ruled that Mugabe’s children had no right to appeal against a judgment handed by the traditional court against their mother, Grace.

Order Of Events In The Case:

a). In May 2021, Chief Zvimba ordered the exhumation of Mugabe from his rural home. The court also fined Grace for breaking burial rites and defaulting.

b). A messenger of court was granted authority to seize five heifers and a goat, which the Zvimba chief said was for cleansing of the country.

c). Bona who was duly appointed executor to the estate of her father, and her siblings appealed against the judgment at the magistrates’ court.

d). The appeal was challenged by Tinos Manongovere, a villager who initiated the matter. The magistrates upheld Manongovere’s challenge.

e). Bona and her siblings then appealed against the ruling at the High Court which ruled in their favour.

Ruled the High Court judges:

In the context of customary law, the court finds no absurdity in allowing any person aggrieved by a decision of a community court to appeal against it, even though the aggrieved person was not a party in proceedings before the community court.

The court below erred in restricting the right of appeal to persons who were parties in proceedings before the community court. On the basis of the above, the first and second grounds of appeal succeed.

The appeal be and is hereby allowed with costs. The judgment of the court a quo is set aside and is substituted as follows, the first preliminary point be and is hereby dismissed and costs be in the cause.

The judges also referred the matter back to Chinhoyi Magistrates Court for the continuation of the hearing.

Mugabe died aged 95 in September 2019 and was buried at Kutamba after his family refused to have him interred at the National Heroes Acres.

Woman Cheats On Hubby, Deserts Own 4y Old Child

State Media -Mr Musiiwa Dube is a single father, raising his eight-year-old son alone, in a break from the common practice where women usually raise the child in cases of divorce.
Mr Dube from Emakhandeni suburb in Bulawayo separated with his wife four years ago.

He claims that she cheated on him. He said despite the infidelity, he continued to live with his wife as he was prepared to forgive her but she later left him and relocated to South Africa, leaving him raising the minor child.

Mr Dube said although he did not change his attitude towards her, one day she woke up and “escaped’ under the pretext that she was visiting relatives.

He believes circumstances leading to their separation have led him to mistrust women and it has been difficult for him to move on.

Mr Dube said it has become extremely challenging to single-handedly raise his child considering the nature of his job that takes him away from home for days.

Although Mr Dube initially agreed to share his picture with Chronicle, he later opted for his story to come out without his image.

“I started raising him alone when he was four years old and he is now eight years old.

My ex-wife left him when she left me and I’ve done my best to raise him.

I’ve always had a very strong bond with my child.

I remember when my ex-wife were still together, he didn’t care whether she was around or not but would cry whenever I was leaving.

So, I wondered how a child would love his father more than her mother,” said Mr Dube.

“However, since I separated with his mother it has not been easy raising him solo.

I spend most of my time at work and I have to cook for him before I leave for work and prepare all the day’s food.

It’s a bit challenging raising him because of my line of work, sometimes I spend two to three days away from home.

So, in my absence, I look for someone to take care of him on a temporary basis.

I’m forced to look for someone who will look after him.”

He said he has tried to hire domestic workers to take care of his son but most of them end up wanting a relationship with him, resulting in him firing them while others are unreliable.

Mr Dube said he mistrusts women following the painful circumstances that his customary marriage ended.

He discovered pictorial and text messages proving the infidelity.

“I don’t want to lie, the reason that led me to part with his mother hurt me so much.

Sometimes I get into relationships but it becomes very difficult to trust anyone.

I no longer trust women.

What I went through was painful and if I was someone, I could have committed suicide or ended up in jail for killing her,” said Mr Dube.

“I remember when I went to tell my in-laws, her uncle about what she had done, the first thing the uncle asked me was ‘which hospital was she hospitalised in or which mortuary had I left her body.’

Her uncle said to me ‘if it was his wife who had done it, she surely would have been dead.’

I struggled explaining to him that I had not laid a hand on her.”

Infidelity cases have on several times led to murder and suicide.

Mr Dube said he believes that self-restraint is very important because domestic violence cases have unintended effects on children.

“As men, as far as gender-based violence, is concerned we are emotional victims.

We know women get physically assaulted but with men we are emotionally abused.

Women can be provocative and I remember even during those days that I had caught her, she would even loudly speak with neighbours saying ‘I hope he did not call my boyfriends.’

“I think she was hoping I would assault her but I didn’t. Imagine what would have happened to my child if I had allowed my anger to overcome me.

I could have either been jailed for killing her or committed suicide.

As a result, my child was going to have suffered more.”

He said while he is raising his child alone, there are times when he feels a mother’s touch will make a difference in his home.

“Sometimes, my child might not be feeling well, he has to be taken to hospital and I have to balance my job and raising him.

If he is given medication, I have to monitor him and all these things could be easier done if there was a woman in my life.

Even as he goes to school, I leave home after preparing his meals and this means that he also eats cold meals which are not good for him,” he said.

Mr Dube said due to the bond he has with his son; he has opted against letting his son stay with relatives.

A marriage counsellor, Mr Christopher Ngwarai said it was bold for Mr Dube to come out about challenges faced by men in marriages.

He said a lot of men suffer from mental health problems causing some to commit suicide.

“Most of the times when a man comes out speaking about his problems in marriages, they are labelled as weak.

It is unlike women who share their challenges, even in church gatherings women openly share their challenges.

But men will prefer to talk about soccer or business.

When a man tries to open up on being cheated on, the first thing that happens is that he is labelled as weak and accused of failing to satisfy his wife sexually,” he said.

Mr Ngwarai said there is a need for more men to openly discuss mental health issues related to gender-based violence in the hands of their spouses.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said it was sad that lives are being lost as a result of domestic violence cases.

“Even men are also coming up, previously it was taboo for men to come out in the open and report cases of domestic violence.

What it means is we need all stakeholders to be involved in promoting the message of peace in families,” said Asst Comm Nyathi. -Chronicle

End Of The Road For Police Use Of Spikes

ZIMBABWE Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga has banned outlawed the use of hand held metal spikes by law enforcements agents following massive protests over the unnecessary loss of lives and injuries caused by the reckless practice.

On 6 May 2022, Kelvin Kabaya and Peggy Tavagadza of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), wrote a letter to ZRP requesting the law enforcement agency to immediately investigate the unwarranted use of metal spikes by police officers.

The letter to ZRP was written after some police officers recklessly threw some metal spikes on an alleged speeding commuter omnibus in Mutare, which led to a fatal road traffic accident, loss of lives and injuries to some commuters.

Kabaya and Tavagadza protested that the actions of police officers in spiking an alleged speeding vehicle were reckless, needless and exposed innocent women, men and school children to serious harm and unnecessary loss of life.

The conduct of ZRP officers, the human rights lawyers said, clearly violated the victims’ rights to human dignity and bodily integrity as defined in Sections 51 and 52 of the Constitution respectively and also violated the deceased persons’ right to life protected under Section 48 of the Constitution.

In apparent response to the protests against the abuse and use of metal spikes, Matanga on Friday 13 May 2022 published a press statement wherein he instantaneously banned ZRP officers from using hand held metal spikes while performing some traffic enforcement duties.

Matanga warned that any police officer who defies his directive would be arrested and prosecuted including facing stern disciplinary action.

Matanga said ZRP officers will only stick to the use of standard and approved spikes as the norm at conventional roadblocks and checkpoints and where the spikes will be laid down on the ground with certified specifications to assist police officers to control motorists who try to evade roadblocks.

Elvis Nyathi Killers Granted Bail

The seven men who were last month arrested for killing a 43-year-old Zimbabwean man, Elvis Nyathi, in Diepsloot, Johannesburg were on Friday granted R3000 bail each at the Randburg Magistrate Court.

Initially, the police had arrested 14 people, but seven others were cleared following thorough investigations.

The men were reportedly carrying out hate crimes against African migrants, especially Zimbabweans around Gauteng Province.

Highlanders Coach Fumes Over Dismissal

Highlanders coach Mandla Mpofu has blamed the media for inciting his sacking.

The gaffer has been under fire from the club’s fans, who have been demanding his dismissal after a poor run in the Castle Lager Premiership.

Bosso have picked just two wins in their last ten games and are on a four-match run of draws.

The performances have left the Bulawayo giants on number 11 and fourteen points behind table-toppers Dynamos, whom they face at Barbourfields Stadium at 3 pm on Sunday.

Speaking to the reporters on Thursday, Mpofu said: “You guys (the media) are experts in your field, and I am an expert in coaching. You have got no chance on that.

“I have no chance in your field, and I can’t do anything. You have got the power of the pen, but I don’t have it.

“It’s unfortunate that is a naked truth.”

Mpofu added that he understands the fans’ frustrations, and they are working on delivering better results.

The supporters taunted the coach after Bosso went two goals down at one point during their 2-2 draw against Bulawayo Chiefs last weekend.

“I know how our fans are feeling. They want the team to win,” the gaffer said.

“What they did on Sunday is very normal…we need to appreciate the feeling of our fans, they want us to win, and I’m the only person responsible for turning around all those things to make sure that the team start to win.”

He added: “For now, let us look at the positive and channel all the energy to win on Sunday so that we bring the cheer and smile to our fans.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

SuperSport United Suspend Kuda Mahachi

SuperSport United have suspended Kudakwashe Mahachi from all club activities with immediate effect citing “serious allegations” against the Zimbabwean international.

The Pretoria-based outfit confirmed on Friday night they had been made aware of ‘serious’ allegations against the 28-year-old.

The club said Mahachi has to attend to his family and the allegations. Reads the statement issued by the club:

The club has suspended the player from all club football activities with immediate effect. He has been advised to attend to his family & the allegations against him.

The matter is subject to judicial processes. The club will make no further comment at this time.

Mahachi has only made eight appearances for SuperSport in the league this season, with his last game coming in the 2-1 defeat to Maritzburg in February.

The former Highlanders player is accused of having burned his 4-year old son with hot water leading to serious injuries.

Mahachi’s ex-wife Maritha Ndlovu accuses the Warriors star of abusing their child and burning him with water in South Africa before smuggling him back to Zimbabwe.

B-Metro reported that Mahachi called his ex-wife in February 2022, requesting for their son to travel to South Africa and temporarily stay with his father, to which she agreed.

The boy’s mother alleges that she only leant that her son was back in Zimbabwe and staying in Cowdry Park, Bulawayo with Mahachi’s grandmother, on April 19 as she had been blocked on WhatsApp by Kudakwashe Mahachi.

Ndlovu claimed that she went to get her son as soon as she heard he was in Zimbabwe and saw him heavily bandaged with burns all over the body.- Pindula News

Latest On Caps United Crisis

Harare giants CAPS United has been hit by more chaos ahead of this weekend’s league match against Chicken Inn, amid revelations that they might lose two more senior players.

The Green Machine has not been the same since the players’ strike which nearly led to the cancellation of their league match against Cranborne Bullets two weeks ago.

The Farai Jere-executive responded by firing six players – Ronald Chitiyo, Clive Augusto, Dennis Dauda, Roddy Chinyengetere, Simba Chinani and Devon Chafa but later ‘pardoned’ Chitiyo, Chafa and Chinyengetere.

Despite being pardoned, it has emerged that Chitiyo is yet to fully commit to Makepekepe and has not been training with the team.

He was not at yesterday’s training session which was open to the media, fuelling speculation that he is on his way to Northern Region Division One side Simba.

Also absent at the practise session was central defender Jimmy Dzingai.

The former Warriors defender is believed to be on his way out of Makepekepe after a dressing burst-up at Mandava last week, where the Lloyd Chitembwe coached side lost 0-3 to FC Platinum.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Facts About Malaria Vaccine

Stock Market Investors Lose Dividends Following Govt Move to Suspend Borrowing

Companies in Zimbabwe have started to withdraw declared dividend payouts and halting advance payments to suppliers as the fallout from President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s directive that banks stop lending ripples across the economy.

Amid much criticism, the government of Zimbabwe is pressing ahead with its temporary suspension of lending services by banks. The Financial Intelligence Unit further tightened the noose on banks, asking banks to “disclose suspense and other internal accounts” in a directive dated 11 May.

“Some banks may be using suspense and other internal accounts for purposes of purchasing foreign currency on the parallel market. Every bank is required to furnish to the FIU a list of all the suspense and other internal accounts,” Oliver Chiperesa, a director general of the Zimbabwean FIU wrote in the letter.

The effects of the new monetary measures have been rippling beyond the banking sector. Listed companies that had already declared a dividend have started to scrap the payout for the dividends, citing the need to preserve cash in the aftermath of a possible credit crunch arising out of the government’s directives.

“The changes in the financial operating environment and resultant uncertainty have significantly disrupted the credit markets. This caused the company to revise the announced dividend position supported with the need to preserve working capital for the company,” ZSE-listed diversified consumables manufacturer, Dairibord Holdings, said on Thursday.

A unit of Edgars Zimbabwe has also suspended credit advances while Surrey, a big livestock processor has stopped farmers from bringing produce to its abattoirs. Sugar processors, Triangle and Hippo Valley – both controlled by Tongaat Hulett – are also stopping advance payments to cane growers.

“It is with regret that the millers advise of the immediate suspension of advance payments until further notice,” James Bowmaker, chief operating officer for Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe, said in a letter to cane farmers, citing the suspension of lending by banks.

“Following the recent suspension of lending by banks, we find ourselves unable to continue offering advances. We normally fund the advances from loan proceeds that we access from the banks,” explained Bowmaker.

ZRP Bans Spikes

Tinashe Sambiri| The Zimbabwe Republic Police has banned the use of hand held spikes following a public outcry.

Police are accused of throwing spikes at moving vehicles resulting in accidents.

Scores of people have lost their lives due to ZRP ineptitude.

ZBC News reported on Friday morning:

“BREAKING: The Zimbabwe Republic Police has with immediate effect banned the use of hand held spikes by Police officers whilst performing traffic enforcement duties throughout the country.”

Economic Opportunities For All Under President Chamisa Government

FIX THE ECONOMY – HIGHLIGHTS OF THE CCC ALTERNATIVE
The illegal and grossly irrational economic measures announced by Mr Mnangagwa on 7 May 2022 point to an economy that has imploded.

As the alternative and a government-in-waiting, we wish to put forward an alternative CCC economic policy approach which will solve the nation’s economic crisis at its root.

Rethinking the economy
The CCC will offer a break from the present predatory order and a bridge that will accelerate the transformation and make Zimbabwe a stable, democratic and development-focused, modern nation.

We will reshape Zimbabwe through the creation of a shared vision and a sustainable transitional framework that will be the foundation of transforming the structure of our economy, eliminating poverty and enabling the pursuit of sustained, equitable and shared growth.

The new economic framework will be underpinned by a new governance culture and the creation of a consensus state.

Core features of the new governance culture will include respect for the rule of law and constitutionalism, building strong, independent institutions, devolution and equal development, the creation of a rights-based society, eliminating corruption, infrastructure transformation and the development and urbanization of rural areas.

Restoring confidence
The social contract between the state and citizens in Zimbabwe has broken down.

There is a lack of confidence or trust in the State, government and public institutions.

The lack of confidence finds expression in the thriving parallel market, acute hyperinflation which officially stands at 96% year on year, although economic experts have said it is much higher, in the region of 265%.

This is partly because the State and its institutions are corrupt and inefficient.

The lack of confidence and trust in the State and the failure of the State to meet its social obligations to the citizens has resulted in the majority of citizens operating outside the ambit of the State.

Poverty has compounded these problems. The World Bank reports that 49% of the Zimbabwean population lives in extreme poverty.

A CCC government will restore confidence in the government through ethical leadership, the creation of a consensus state where there is wide consultation with key stakeholders before policies are created or changed, the building of a shared and inclusive society and the creation of an economic environment that promotes opportunities for widespread prosperity, especially for the ordinary citizen.

Anchoring the economy on the democratic developmental state model
In addressing the economic challenges faced by Zimbabwe, the CCC accepts that tough decisions will have to be made.

In this regard, the ability of our Government to widely consult and negotiate with local partners will be key.

We will build the capacities of strategic state entities to ensure that they can effectively implement economic policies.

As we have learnt from other successful developmental models e.g. Estonia, we recognize that policy trade-offs will be essential.

Pillars of CCC economic framework
Under a CCC government, the economy will be anchored on macro-economic stability, fiscal discipline, resolution of the debt crisis, financial service sector reform, pension reform and social protection, currency reform, industrialization and alteration of the accumulation model, rationalization of the land reform program including securing land tenure for those who hold agricultural land, agro-industrial transformation, mining sector reform including beneficiation, job creation and formalization of the economy.

Zimbabwe Emergency Economic Rescue Program

Since the end of the GNU in August 2013, Zanu PF has pushed the economy into a state of disequilibrium and dislocation through ballooning debt, fiscal deficits, rampant and uncontrollable expenditure and stagnation.

Correcting the wrongs of Zanu PF’s flawed economic policy is a necessary pre-condition to moving forward.

In this regard, upon assuming office, a CCC government will embark on a short-term stabilization agenda upon which our economic recovery program will be anchored.

This will entail restoring macroeconomic stability and fiscal consolidation. Given the current budget deficit, fiscal adjustments will be necessary.

Fiscal adjustments will be achieved through a number of measures including fiscal consolidation by, inter alia, the pursuit of a primary balance and restoration of balanced budgeting, rationalization of expenditure and improving the expenditure mix, building capacity on revenue management and strengthening public finance management systems, taking measures to reduce debt and improving debt management to reduce the risk of inflationary pressures, crowding out of private sector activity and continued liquidity shortages, expediting State-Owned Enterprise reform, rationalization of the public service and the elimination of ghost workers to reduce the employment cost to 30% of total expenditure, expansion of the revenue base through increased productivity and expansion of the economy, for the short to medium term – scrapping the bond note and strengthening the multiple currency regime, Central Bank Reform including the urgent audit of RBZ assets and liabilities, export promotion, narrowing the current account and rationalizing the capital account, accelerating ease of doing business reforms and promoting policy coherence.

Financial Sector Reform
Upon assuming office, a CCC Government will immediately embark on a process to transform Zimbabwe into an attractive financial services centre adopting models similar to Mauritius and Botswana. We will create a vibrant venture capital sector to assist entrepreneurs.

The CCC will introduce policies and incentives to attract international capital into the local venture capital sector with an emphasis on creating new businesses in key areas such as tech, manufacturing, agro-processing, and mining beneficiation, among others.

We will strengthen the existing development banks and institutions through recapitalization programs, bringing back international development finance institutions.

The CCC will implement broad measures to strengthen oversight over the financial services sector by establishing an independent body, separate from the Central Bank to supervise financial institutions.

We will seek amendments to the Banking Act to enhance good corporate governance and strengthen corrective measures and stop measures that prejudice depositors.

Currency Reform
Zimbabwe has an ongoing currency crisis that is adversely affecting the economy and resulting in irrational outcomes such as multi-tier pricing and a multi-tier foreign exchange rate. To resolve this, the CCC will adopt both short and long term measures.

In the short term, the CCC will immediately scrap the bond note, return to the multiple-currency regime, rationalize the capital account, increase productivity, and grow the national GDP in order to build substantive reserves for the country.

We will also ring-fence USD bank balances to protect depositors against any further shocks.

The CCC recognizes that in the long term, it is not sustainable for Zimbabwe to continue to use a basket of multiple currencies as legal tender.

We are alive to the fact that the USD does exacerbate the challenges of high-cost structures as well as adversely affect Zimbabwe’s exports.

In the long term, we believe a complete solution to the Zimbabwean currency crisis lies in a currency model built on regional integration.

Central Bank Reform
The CCC will amend Banking legislation to establish an independent Central Bank with a governor, a single deputy governor and a strong monetary policy committee.

We will ensure that the Central Bank sticks to its core function of monetary policy as well as the management of the national payments system.

The CCC will enact legislation that prevents the central government from borrowing from the Central Bank and put an end to murky debt assumptions by the citizens.

Restoring savings
A CCC Government will restore a savings culture in the country. We will create an environment that protects the interests of savers.

Citizens must not face punitive measures from the financial system which makes them averse to savings.

In this regard, we will implement measures to promote financial inclusion including for the rural economy, establish a credible Credit Reference Bureau, restore the operation of savings accounts and promote savings instruments including paid-up permanent shares and other savings paper to ensure that savings are at least 25% of the national GDP, monitor fee charges and lending rates to avoid arbitrage and usurious rates, restore mortgage finance facilities, return consumer lending and credit finance.

Fiscal Reforms
Fiscal consolidation is one of the most urgent and critical elements of stabilizing the Zimbabwean economy.

In this regard, a CCC government will reintroduce balanced budgeting to limit the exposure of the Government to the Central Bank, rationalize the public service, suspend all costly quasi-fiscal activities, rationalize Government expenditure, build capacity on budget management, expand the revenue base through measures to improve productivity and introduce a citizen portal for feedback on public services.

Conclusion -a CCC Government will create economic opportunities for all
The CCC will promote a market-led, entrepreneurial society that is socially just and inclusive.

This includes policy formulation that will deliberately take into account those who have previously had unequal access to opportunities by reason of gender, ethnicity, region, race and other points of disadvantage.

We will do this mindful of the fact that creating opportunities requires the construction of a stable and growing economy.

This also requires the state to ensure that there is adequate housing, a sustainable and clean environment, food and the realization of all socio-economic rights that will improve the daily life of all citizens.

PRETORIA

RE: ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE OFFICIAL REPATRIATION OF THE CITIZENS OF THE ROYAL KINGDOM OF MTHWAKAZI FROM THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA TO THEIR HOMELAND AND THE REVIVAL AND RE-ESTABLISHMENT OF THE STATEHOOD AND NATIONHOOD OF THE SOVEREIGN KINGDOM OF MTHWAKAZI.

WHERE AS Matabeleland alias the Royal Mthwakazi Kingdom was an independent kingdom until her “conquest by the British South Africa Company (BSA Co.) on 4 November 1893” of behalf of the British Empire, resulting with our being subjected to 129 years of repression to date, and

WHERE AS the British Crown did grant the “Royal Charter of Incorporation to the BSA Co. on 29th October 1889.” and conferred to the BSA Co. all the powers of a government on all lands north of the Limpopo River, and

WHERE AS after the conquest of the Kingdom of Mthwakazi on 4th November 1893 Her Majesty’s government did legalize the contraband deal of the BSA Co. known as the “Victoria Agreement’ of 14th August 1893” in which the perpetrators connived to displace all our indigenous people from the habitable lands and to loot over half a million of the royal herd once Matabeleland had been conquered. And this, notwithstanding that Her Majesty’s government was fully aware that the Kingdom of Mthwakazi was a signatory to the Moffat Treaty of Peace and Unity (Between the Great White Queen of England and the Mighty Elephant of Matabeleland) signed by King Lobengula and Rev. Robert Moffat on behalf of Queen Victoria on 11 February 1888, and that the Respondent was also fully aware that both signatories were sovereign kingdoms and had legal obligations to respect their commitments to this Treaty, and

WHERE AS Her Majesty’s government legalized the criminal contract of the BSA Co. with its pioneers, through promulgating the “Matabeleland Order-in-Council of 18th July 1894” an act which usurped our sovereignty and formed the basis of conferring the jurisdiction to the BSA Co. to rule us, in Matabeleland by conquest, and

WHERE AS our ancestors through the Royal Council of Matabeleland did send Prince Nyamande to challenge the BSA Co.’s rule by conquest in the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council on 19 July 1918 at which the ruling that: “The Ndebele Sovereignty had been broken up and replaced by a new, better system as defined by the Matabeleland Order- in-Council of 1894” was made resulting with our continued repression, and

WHERE AS Her Majesty’s government did replace the BSA Co. rule as a result of the said verdict, with the white supremacy rule through the “1923 Constitution of Southern Rhodesia” and conferred to them the powers of executing the Matabeleland Order-in-Council, resulting with the continuation of racial domination over Matabeleland while reserving exclusive privileges for the white people in a manner that prejudiced our life for a duration of 87 years, and

WHERE AS Her Majesty’s government did replace the white supremacy rule with a Zimbabwean Shona Majority rule in 1980 and conferred them with the powers of executing the Matabeleland Order-in-Council through “The Zimbabwe Constitution Order 1980 (S.I. 1980/390 of the United Kingdom) made 19th March 1980” which perpetrated tribal domination over Mthwakazi, while reserving exclusive privileges to Mashonaland through majority rule, in a manner which prejudiced our life for a duration of 42 years to date, bringing the total duration of the rule by conquest to 129 years, and

WHERE AS in August 2019 a Deed of Trust (The King Mzilikazi Royal Trust) was duly registered in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe RE: MA 000335, Protocol No: 22/19, whose registered aim is to seek to hold in trust, oversee, sustain, and preserve the Mthwakazi Nationhood and hold in trust the Royal Monarch Institution with its Traditional structures, land, resources, cultures and languages of the Ndebele State as at 1893, and

WHERE AS the number one objective (4a) of said trust deed is to re-establish and sustain the Mthwakazi Nationhood, and

WHERE AS the beneficiaries of this trust deed are the descendants of the Ndebele State prior to 1893, and

WHERE AS on 26th March 2020, a Resolution was taken by the trustees of the said Trust Deed to: cede and transfer trust and ownership of The King Mzilikazi Royal Trust to the Founder, Stanley Raphael Khumalo and fully endorsing him as His Royal Majesty King Mzilikazi II of the Kingdom of Mthwakazi/ Ndebele State, in accordance with the aims and objectives of the trust, and

NOW THAT His Royal Majesty King Mzilikazi II, as Sovereign Ruler of The Royal Kingdom of Mthwakazi, having ascended to the throne and assumed all the authority to rule the Kingdom of Mthwakazi, has issued/ created/ promulgated the Royal Charter of the Royal Kingdom of Mthwakazi as an instrument to revive and restore the Kingdom.

However, to their king who is also the Father as well as custodian of these Great People and kingdom, each and every life matters, no matter their sins. Hence the king is here to take his people back home, no longer to die in the hands of the Zimbabwean government and South African citizens.

The crusade, which involves other countries as well, should be over within six months. We therefore request yourselves as well as Britain to notify the whole international community of this development. This is government’s responsibility. I have made an official demand to the British government to pay back some of what they owe the Kingdom of Mthwakazi so that we may be able to kick start our economy which they ruthlessly vandalised and looted.

You are Mr President personally accountable and responsible for my safety and security as well that of all my people and kingdom; together with your government, your security apparatus, the British government and the United Nations, which is by definition; the whole international community. We are therefore anticipating no resistance in this whole exercise because you have no moral nor justifiable reason whatsoever to put up any form of resistance.

This letter shall be delivered to other governments through their embassies, together with its attachment entitled: THE BRITISH AND SHONA GRAND PLAN AND THE MATABELELAND GENOCIDE OF THE 1980S CODED GUKURAHUNDI.

Autographed and acknowledged on this 12th Day of May, 2022 in Johannesburg, RSA.

ROGUE POLICE OFFICERS PLEAD GUILTY TO TORTURING WOMAN

SOME Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers have pleaded guilty to torturing a Harare woman, whom they brutalised last year.

30 year-old Zororo Mazhawidza was left bleeding from her private parts and nursing some injuries after she was severely assaulted and tortured at Harare Central Police Station in the presence of her one month-old baby by two ZRP officers identified as Constable Murwisi and Constable Mandeya.

Mazhawidza was assaulted by Constable Murwisi and Constable Mandeya, who arrested her on 10 March 2021 after accusing her of stealing a Pre-paid Command Agriculture Fuel Card belonging to one Reginald and converting the fuel for her own use, a charge which she denied and told the ZRP officers that she was just simply holding onto the pre-paid fuel card as lien to secure payment of her US$1 100 which she had advanced to Reginald.

The torture by Constable Murwisi and Constable Mandeya, Mazhawidza said, entailed placing a wooden plank behind her knees and lifting her in the air such that her head was upside down before they started assaulting her with truncheons just below her backsides which resulted in her defecating and urinated on herself.

The assault and torture only stopped after Mazhawidza produced the pre-paid fuel card.

After the torture, Constable Murwisi and Constable Mandeya ordered her to clean up her faeces and to dispose of it.

Later on, Mazhawidza was released without any charge preferred against her.

After being dismayed by the dehumanising treatment at the hands of the ZRP officers, Mazhawidza engaged Tinashe Chinopfukutwa of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, who sued both Constable Murwisi and Constable Mandeya in their personal capacity together with Home ffairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Hon. Kazembe Kazembe and ZRP
Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga for ZWL900 000 in damages arising from the torture.

Out of the ZWL900 000, Mazhawidza wants Constable Murwisi, Constable Mandeya, Hon. Kazembe and Matanga, to pay her ZWL300 000 as damages for pain and suffering, ZWL300 000 for unlawful arrest and detention and ZWL300 000 for embarrassment, humiliation, affront to dignity and contumelia.

In response to Mazhawidza’s summons, Constable Murwisi, Constable Mandeya, Hon. Kazembe and Matanga, who are represented by Luckson Muradzikwa of the Attorney General’s Office wrote to Chinopfukutwa telling the human rights lawyer that his clients were not disputing liability and sought to settle the matter out of court as there is no
plausible defence on the merits of the case.

Muradzikwa told Chinopfukutwa that his clients wants the damages claim of ZWL900 000 to be revised downwards.

However, Chinopfukutwa insisted that the damages sought are justified due to the circumstances of the case and Constable Murwisi, Constable Mandeya, Hon. Kazembe and Matanga should pay the full amount.

Judgment on the matter is pending before the Harare Magistrate Court

Musengezi Remanded In Custody

A former Zanu PF youth league member, who challenged President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s 2017 ascendancy to power, appeared in court yesterday facing charges of fraudulently acquiring a ruling party membership card.

Represented by Doug Coltart and Nqobani Sithole, Sybeth Musengezi appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda and was remanded in custody to today for bail hearing.

Anesu Chirenje prosecuted.

FULL TEXT: Police Bans Use Of Spikes

The commissioner General of Police has noted with concern allegations that some police officers are using hand held spikes whilst trying to stop some errant motorists evading checkpoints and general enforcement of road rules and regulations in the country.

These allegations have resulted in varied views from the public including parliamentarians.

In this regard, the Commissioner General of Police has with immediate effect banned the use of hand held spikes by any Police Officers whilst performing traffic enforcement duties throughout the country. Any police officer who will defy this directive will be arrested and face both criminal and stern disciplinary action. No police officer will be allowed to move around whilst openly holding or carrying spikes under the guise of traffic enforcement.

Police commanders at various levels have been ordered to ensure that this directive is strictly complied with, by police officers. The Zimbabwe Republic Police will only stick to the use of standard and approved spikes as the norm where these are strategically used at conventional road blocks and checkpoints.

The spikes are laid down on the ground with certified specification to assist police officers to control motorists who will try to evade roadblocks by driving through the roadblocks or sideways and in the process pose as a danger to other motorists, the general public and police officers.

The police also appeals to drivers to stop whenever directed to do so by police officers on the roads. We have observed that in major cities such as Harare and Bulawayo some kombis and pirate taxis especially those with no number plates do not stop at police roadblocks or police checkpoints. This makes it difficult for police officers to either arrest or trace them to account for their illegal activities.

On the other hand, the police has noted with concern that there are some public service vehicles and pirate taxis who get involved in road traffic accidents or openly go through red robots and later on claim they were running away from police officers or spike has been thrown at them. In most cases initial enquiries have revealed that they will be trying to cover up for their criminal conduct.

In the same vein, the police urges all public service vehicles operators to seriously introspect on the manner they are conducting their operations in the country and genuinely assist in the maintenance of law and order on the roads. The recent pronouncement by His Excellency President ED Mnangagwa on the operations of public service vehicles should be a guide on the need to ensure that PSV drivers and crew are strictly adhering to the laws of the country.

Therefore there is no need for transport operators to put money first at the expense of the travelling public. It is a fact that law and order and business go hand in hand. This means that public service operators should be beacons of peace and law and order in all their activities.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is ready to work with relevant arms of government and other stakeholders to ensure that road safety is prioritized by all motorists.

Can Zim Take Advantage Of Global Food Supply Gaps

By Victor Bhoroma| The Zimbabwean government recently reviewed upwards producer prices for maize, traditional grains, soya beans and sunflower in line with inflation and the need to improve supply in the market. The new floor prices for maize and traditional grains are ZW$75,000 per Metric Tonne (MT), for Soya Beans ZW$171,495/MT and for Sunflower ZW$205,795/MT. When paired against the pegged central bank exchange rate, the producer prices are way overvalued. However, the better picture in terms of planning comes when the prices are paired against the ruling current exchange rates on the market. However, the disparity in terms of prices is an arbitrage pricing, hoarding and rent seeking loophole which will be immediately exploited.

Table 1: Government Floor Prices

CropZW$ Price (Per MT)US$ Price           (Formal Auction Rate)US$ Price                            (Market Rate)
Maize/Traditional Grains$75,000$470.67$187.50
Soya Beans$171,495$1,076.23$428.74
Sunflower$205,795$1,291.48$514.49
Wheat$175,742$1,102.88$439.36

Impact of Ukraine War

Prior to the war in Ukraine, international food prices had already reached an all-time high and the war has exacerbated global food shortages. The shortages are affecting Southern Africa in the form of high food prices, imported inflation, and commodity shortages.

Ukraine and Russia account for 29% of global wheat experts and 62% of sunflower oil supplies. They are both key producers of barley and maize as well. Globally, 50 countries depend on Russia and Ukraine for at least 30% of their wheat import needs. In that context, this war has multiple implications for global markets and food security, representing a challenge for food security for many countries, and especially low-income food import dependent countries. Nevertheless, it can represent an opportunity for the African continent which is struggling to fully utilize abundant arable land. The vast continent has 60% of the world’s uncultivated arable land yet Africa is heavily reliant on food imports from high income countries. Over the past decade, the continent has seen growing demand for cereal crops, including wheat, soya, and sunflower, which has been mainly supported by imports instead of local production. Africa’s wheat imports increased by 68% between 2007 to 2020, surging to over 49 million tonnes. Such is the potential to produce and take advantage of the global food supply gap for countries such as Zimbabwe with vast tracts of arable land.

Zimbabwe Agriculture Status

Zimbabwe has 39.6 million hectares of land, with about 42 percent being suitable for agriculture purposes. However, only 35% of that arable land is being fully utilized for crop production. Crop production in the country is largely rain fed with only 40% of the total arable land receiving rainfall considered adequate for crop cultivation. Zimbabwe has one of the highest levels of food insecurity in Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) regardless of seasonal variations in rainfall patterns. Small holder farmers are highly vulnerable to climate change due to overdependence on rainfall, thus extreme weather conditions further intensify low productivity and poverty. As a result of the above, Harare has been a net importer of food for the past 2 decades and the country’s import bill has increasingly featured grain imports with maize imports averaging 1.1 million Metric Tonnes (MT) per year from 2010 to 2020, while wheat and soya beans account for 300 000MT and 150 000MT in import quantities respectively. Imports for these three raw grain commodities cost the country at least US$600 million in 2020 alone. This is before processed cereal and other agricultural commodities are factored into the import equation. However, above normal rainfall in 2021 improved maize yield to 2.7 million MT from 980,000MT in 2020. There was also marked improvement in production for wheat and traditional grains in 2021.

Decline in agricultural productivity

Zimbabwe’s fast tracked Land Reform Program left a huge dent on the country’s food security status, land tenure, investment levels and value-addition of agriculture exports. However, it’s now 22 years after the land reform program, yet production looks very fragile along rainfall pattern lines. Yield per hectare for maize (the staple crop in Zimbabwe) remains very low with average national yield less than 0.7 tons per hectare (Lower than the African average of 1.8 tons/ha). The yield is also lower than SADC peers who are largely affected by the same climatic conditions, with Namibia, Malawi and Mozambique at 1.2 tons/ha, Tanzania at 1.3 tons/ha, Zambia at 2.5 tons/ha and South Africa at 5.3 tons/ha.

Consequently, Zimbabwe was South Africa’s largest maize market in 2019 and 2020, accounting for 30% of the official exports. Interestingly since the year 2000, Zambia has tripled its maize production with an average of 2.9 million MT per year in the past 10 years alone and constantly exporting maize to its southern neighbor. The following are some of the key challenges bedeviling Zimbabwe’s agriculture potential and inhibiting any chance to take advantage of the global food supply gaps in the short to medium term.

Lack of title and capital

Commercial agriculture is capital intensive and private capital plays a key role in filling that financing gap. However, most resettled farmers in Zimbabwe have no bankable title deeds to their land which makes it worthless as an asset and difficult to access credit from financial institutions. The issued (to selected farmers) 99-year leases are not transferable, hence not appealing to the banking sector in an environment where confidence and policy consistency are in short supply. The law still gives the government the right to revoke the lease using its own discretion, which makes land a key political tool in the country. Without sufficient funding, local farmers cannot significantly increase yield to take advantage of the shortages or rally in world prices.

Limited irrigation models

Local rainfall patterns have adversely changed in the last few years due to climate change and over 60% of the country receives rainfall is not adequate for crop cultivation. This means that funding for irrigation equipment is critical. Zimbabwe has over 10,747 small to large dams and rivers covering an approximate area of 117, 662 hectares of land. Thus, there is huge potential to irrigate more than 2 million hectares of land. However, less than 173,000 hectares are currently under irrigation. The utilization of existing water bodies remains very low. Successful irrigation schemes do not only guarantee food security but they enable farmers the liberty to try other cash crops while venturing in all year round farming.

Low levels of mechanization

Most of the agriculture in Zimbabwe is driven by manual labour, Ox drawn power and other subsistence methods that yield well on organic quality but very low on volume. Zimbabwe needs over 30,000 tractors, thousands of combine harvesters and other farm implements that are key to reducing the cost of production and improving yield. This is the modern reality of farming where countries such as United States, Brazil, China, Australia, Russia, and Ukraine have mastered to increase yield per hectare. Regrettably, the deficit in mechanization cannot be addressed overnight or in the short to medium term. Similarly, it cannot be done through government funding alone.

Government policy

In the last 20 years, Zimbabwe’s monetary, fiscal, and agricultural policies have not been friendly to primary producers of agriculture commodities.

This the major reason why several small holder farmers have given up large tracts of land for other income generating activities such small scale mining. Constraints faced by farmers range from high levels of inflation (increase in prices of inputs and services), inefficient foreign exchange markets, delays in payments, subeconomic producer prices, export bans, limited training, and lack of access to markets for remote farmers. To address these issues, pricing must be left to farmers’ associations while the commodity exchange market should address market access and payments issues. The government should only partake in buying grains up to the level of stocking strategic reserves or for emergency interventions in distributing food to households. As such government policy must be geared towards creating markets where farmers meet suppliers independently and allowing prices to match regional prices to incentivize primary production. Without this, Zimbabwe cannot (sustainably) be counted as an agricultural commodities exporter in Africa.

Agriculture in Zimbabwe is now dominated by the state which plays the role of price setting, regulation, providing subsidies and loans (financing), purchasing, and paying, and setting policies that often change course anytime. The government predominantly prefers giving inputs subsidies to small holder farmers, pegging producer prices and centralizing land tenure for political reasons. Most local farmers have folded their hands on self-financing in order to get cheap inputs from the government. Viability and government policy is draining a few successful commercial farmers who could take advantage of the heightened global demand. Additionally, most small holder farmers have limited scope of farming as a business which makes it difficult to be agile and take advantage of global food supply gaps. Overall, Zimbabwe must first attain food security and fix legacy issues impacting agriculture production before aiming for the export market that has gone lucrative because of the Ukraine-Russia war and other global supply bottlenecks.

Parliamentarians Letting Citizens Down

By Jacob Kudzayi Mutisi | It is now clear that Zimbabwe’s MPs or parliamentarians are not playing their role to fix the mess that our country’s economic financial service is in. The Zimbabwean government has had Statutory Instruments (SI) after SI being introduced year in year out hoping that the nation’s financial crisis will be miraculously solved.

We are now the only country on earth, where the US Dollar trades at seven different exchange rates, in reality we have :-

$1 = auction rate

$1 = interbank rate

$1 = black market rate

$1 = ecocash

$1 = rtgs swipe

$1 = bond cash

$1 = nostro bank transfer

It is literally impossible to have a company budget for your organization or simply to make a living out of this current status quo.

Zimbabwe’s parliament has three core functions

1. to represent citizens’ interests.

2. to pass laws

3. to monitor the actions of the government.

As a citizen of Zimbabwe, my question is, are the nation’s parliamentarians or MPs paying their assigned role. Do we have toothless parliamentarians? What role are our MPs playing to salvage the economic crisis in this country?

It is time for the citizens, including the business community to start demanding dialogue and question the role of our MPs. We are in this mess because our MPs and parliamentarians are not playing their elected role. They are watching from the sideline. Why are decisions being made before their eyes and yet they are not questioning these decisions.

No citizen should blame His Excellency President ED Mnangagwa, Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube or the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ), blame the MP who are elected to represent the people and protect the interests of the nations. We also have to blame the citizens and the businesses community who are not demanding accountability from their elected members. Their major role being to question decisions that are made.

We have had a five year cycle from a US dollar to a Zim dollar and back to a US dollar then a 1 to 1 to back to a Zim dollar and the cycle continues. We are in deep trouble, this will not end until citizens and businesses demand accountability and elect MPs who understand the three core functions of parliament. The Zimbabwean Government needs advice and solutions and our MPs are not playing their part.

Man Disguises As Woman, Gets Married For 16months

A man from Honde Valley reportedly disguised himself as a woman and was married for 16 months while performing all the duties expected of a new bride.

The man, Morris Muchena, disguised himself as Emily Muswere from Murehwa and would even become intimate with ‘‘her husband’’, Andrew Chafa

Morris was finally exposed in Honde Valley during a recent female soccer match between his team and another one from Chisuko Village — which happens to be his original village.

The nibble-footed Morris charmed football fans with his moves thereby putting him in the spotlight. His childhood peers identified him and exposed him.

Morris was summoned by village head Madzinga, Mr Webster Mhuru, for a hearing where he confessed that he was indeed a man who had disguised himself as a woman.h

He also said he is part of a satanic cult and claimed that he changes into a woman during the night in order to satisfy his ‘‘husband’’ in bed.

One of the soccer players who were in the match that was Morris’ undoing said they challenged him to remove his wig but he adamantly refused. She said on condition of anonymity:

We challenged him to remove his wig, but he refused. He said if he removed it he would disappear for 24 hours. We were frightened and waited for his husband, Andrew, to come.

When Andrew arrived, he was shocked. He said he had not realised that he was sharing the same bed with a man. Andrew said it was the end of their marriage.

Another player said they were so happy to have Morris on their team as he played well.

Members of the Chafa family and villagers interviewed said they had suspected that Morris — alias Emily — was a man due to his masculinity.

Village head Madzinga said Andrew got married to ‘Emily’ around November 2020.

Madzinga added Morris’ relatives travelled from Chisuko a few days after he was exposed saying they were looking for him.

Morris was summoned to Madzinga’s homestead where he arrived dressed as a woman.

He initially denied knowing his two relatives but later later confessed that he is a man.

It is said Morris chronicled how he was initiated by a Harare friend into a satanic cult that enables him to turn into a woman whenever ‘her husband’ wants to be intimate with ‘her’.

He said following the initiation, he started having weird dreams; before meeting Andrew and falling in love with him.

It also emerged that Morris was a teacher at a private school in Harare before he stopped reporting for duty at the time of his ‘marriage’.

He acquired his primary and secondary education in Chisuko, Honde Valley; then deserted his family two years ago.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the incident and said while investigations are still underway, it appears like Morris and Andrew were in a consensual same-sex marriage.

Chiedza Ziyambe has been nominated for The Entrepreneur of Excellence Award at this year’s National Diversity Awards.

The award recognises individuals who have created a viable business, showcasing entrepreneurship and innovation.

Chiedza said: “Not only am I passionate about fashion, I am equally passionate about community development and empowering upcoming designers because they have so much to contribute to this ever growing industry.

“It is an honour to be recognised by such a prestigious organisation for the work being done in the communities I serve. The objective of ZFS was to highlight and give emerging designers a platform that showcased their talent and skill. Through this platform, several designers have gone on to launch reputable fashion careers both locally and internationally.

As an extension of her work in the fashion industry, Chiedza acquired the pageant rights for Miss World Zimbabwe UK, a platform created to recognise aspiring Zimbabwean women who have a passion for modelling, and a desire to contribute meaningfully to their communities through charitable work.

Committed to sustainable and ethical luxury fashion, Chiedza saw a gap in the market to create luxurious and quality lingerie for the curvier woman. And in 2019, launched Miss Chii. Through Miss Chii, Chiedza continues to promote, celebrate, and empower women of all shapes and sizes by helping them discover the beauty within themselves. Chamisa Proffers Solutions To Collapsing Economy

By-CCC President Nelson Chamisa said that he has the answers to the ailing economy.

Chamisa said this this week when he was responding Zanu PF government’s dramatic ban on bank landing to corporates.

As a result of Mnangagwa’s announcement, prices of basic commodities started to rise.

Posting on the party’s social media platforms, CCC said they had the solutions to the failing economy.

Posted CCC:

The 7 May economic policy announcement by

@edmnangagwa

shows that the economy has collapsed. Hyperinflation, eroded wages, extreme poverty & an illegal bank lending freeze have made life harder for the citizens. In line with our #AlternativeGovtAgenda, we propose the following:

Biti Dismisses Mnangagwa Economic Growth Rhetoric

Below is Hon Tendai Biti’s presentation on Twitter:

The regime has announced a potpourri of contradictory, self-defeating, punitive & vindictive measures with the intended aim of stopping or reversing the dramatic & rambunctious free fall of the Zimbabwean $ &the consequential inflationary spike experienced in the last two weeks.

Truth is the measures are I’ll think & reflective of a paranoid moribund incompetent regime that believes everything & everyone is an enemy & a saboteurs regime that blames everyone except itself for the humongous mess it has plunged Zim into a regime that sees shadows everywhere

The dramatic fall of the exchange rate stems from the introduction of the Zim$ when the necessary preconditions were absent. It stems from a huge mismatch between supply & demand. It stems from the failure of the Dutch auction system. It stems from a huge budget deficit monetized through the printing of money.

It stems from corruption & the billions of Zim$ being pummeled into the system from illegal deals Given this only full & unmitigated re-dollarization provides a short term solution. Anything else, including the regime’s new measure, is an absolute joke and a sheer worst of time.

Policymaking must never be allowed to be anecdotal or a product of beer hall diatribe. The new measures smack of that.

Broad sweeping statements & conclusions are made without evidence & data. Major decisions are made without analysing the legalities of the measures or their consequences on the macro or micro level.

We have always argued that this is the worst government in the history of governments & the latest measures prove that.

The key points of the new measures are as follows a) continuation of the Dutch auction system. b)Suspension of all lending by Banks. c) Suspension of major services by stockbrokers. d) Increase in Capital Gains to 40% from 20 % on shares sold in less than 270 days e) 2 % levy on US$ cash withdrawals above a $1000. f) Increase in IMMT tax on US$ transactions to 4 % & 2% on Zim $ g) Retailers & businesses allowed to charge in US$ on a willing buyer willing seller exchange rate regime. h) US$ taxes to the government now to be paid on the willing buyer willing seller exchange rate regime.

We now await the legal instruments necessary to effect the above measures. Save to say that massive litigation is inevitable. For instance, it is blatantly unlawful to ban banks from lending when it is their core business. The new taxes & proposed civil penalties are unlawful.

The truth of the matter is that Zimbabwe deserves better. It deserves new leadership. Sure, #NgaapindeHakeMukomana

Aston Villa Mentor Speaks On Liverpool Defeat

Aston Villa coach Steven Gerrard has revealed the reason behind Marvelous Nakamba’s substitution in the 2-1 league defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday.

Nakamba was in the first XI and played impressively for an hour as a defensive midfielder. He had last started in a match in early December when he picked up a knee injury that required surgery.

The Zimbabwean was replaced by Carney Chukwuemeka and Villa went on to concede just three minutes later after the change.

Explaining why Nakamba was subbed off, Gerrard told Birminghammail.co.uk: “The big frustration was that Marvelous Nakamba couldn’t carry on because he asked to be changed.

“We knew he would run out of steam at some point and Douglas went into the middle and, obviously, the ball got stolen off him. Maybe with Marv that might not have happened but, look, it is what it is and we have to look after Marv and his body. That’s the most important thing. We’re disappointed with both goals we’ve conceded.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Soldiers Attack Villagers

Dozens of villagers near Jason Ziyaphapha Moyo Airbase in Chegutu were on Tuesday allegedly assaulted by soldiers reportedly searching for a machete gangster who had assaulted their colleague.

According to pictures seen by NewsDay, the assaulted villagers sustained injuries on their faces, heads, legs and hands.

Some of the assault victims received medical attention at Chegutu General Hospital, according to a medical report in possession of NewsDay.

Contacted for comment, Air Force of Zimbabwe spokesperson Squadron leader Donovan Muroyiwa said he was yet to receive the report, but said an investigation had already been launched to ascertain the claims.

Villagers said the soldiers stormed their homes at around 11pm, inquiring the whereabouts of a machete gangster who had allegedly been involved in an altercation with their colleague.

The soldiers, reportedly armed with guns and knobkerries, damaged doors to gain entry to villagers’ houses. They also stormed a homestead where villagers were attending a funeral and harassed mourners.

“They were beating everyone who professed ignorance of the whereabouts of the alleged gangster,” one villager said, adding they were now living in fear.

“It was around 11pm when a loud bang at the door woke me up. At first, I thought they were thieves until I saw soldiers clad in uniform. They accused us of hiding their suspect.”

Another villager said: “I saw two truckloads of soldiers, who were dropping off at various homesteads, interrogating and assaulting villagers over the whereabouts of a man who injured a soldier with a knife.

“I witnessed the altercation between the soldier and the man. They had a misunderstanding over a woman while drinking beer at a local bar.”

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he had not yet received the report.

In December, a soldier shot and killed five people at a shopping centre in Mhondoro after a misunderstanding with a villager.

Govt Says Sorry For Removing Joshua Nkomo Shield

By Dorrothy Moyo | Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration has apologised for removing the artisitic Joshua Nkomo logo at the airport in Bulawayo.

In a statement, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona said Government has already gone to tender for the production of the new signage.

“The ministry regrets the hasty removal of the signage at JM Nkomo International Airport without notifying all stakeholders.
“The ministry takes pleasure in informing all stakeholders that we have already gone to tender for new signage that incorporates all stakeholder concerns. Wider consultations are ongoing on the best signage which will factor in regional sentiments and desires,” he said, responding to criticism from far and wide.

Broadcast journo Ezra Sibanda, among others said:

The new ugly signage

The removal of the Shield/IHAWU from Joshua Nkomo International Airport on the 5th of May 2022 by workmen, allegedly on orders from their superiors in Harare has angered many people. In its place, a new design of the airport signage with colours of the Zimbabwe flag and the coat of arms went up. This was unnecessary at all and no reasons have been given. Zimbabweans need some mechanism to deal with past injustices and atrocities and the removal of this emblem and replaced by a government court of arms insignia rekindle the bad events which happened in the past.

The government should reconsider its decision and erect and put back iHawu at JMN Airport. The emblem is a cultural symbol for the Nguni people, the Matabeleland people. Those who ordered the removal of the symbol should know culture shapes our identity and influences our behaviours, and cultural diversity makes us accept, and even to some extent, integrate and assimilate with other cultures. The people who ordered the removal should know cultural diversity has become very important in today’s world, our chances of interacting with people from various races, ethnic groups and cultures is far greater now than it has been ever before.

If you put aside any prejudices or biases you might have and you are open to other people, it can help prepare you to listen, talk and learn about other people and their cultures. Diversity is not only important for adults, but children should be learning about different cultures too so removing iHawu what are you teaching Zimbabwean young ones especially those who live in diverse cities and towns? It is extremely important for adults to teach kids to be accepting of different cultures because if children are not taught, then they become more close-minded, so do the right thing. The Government of Zimbabwe should force the Emblem to be put back and demand answers on why it was removed. Respect Father Zimbabwe, Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo. He is the founding father of our great nation!

Woman Kidnapped for Rituals

A shop owner in Kelvin industrial site in Bulawayo is counting her lucky stars after unidentified people kidnapped her and drained her blood for suspected ritual purposes.

Blood rituals after kidnap

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident yesterday.

Ncube told Southern Eye that the female shop owner was offered a lift by four females in a Honda Fit vehicle.

The women then drove the lady to a secluded bushy area where they injected her with an unknown substance which rendered her unconscious.

While she was unconscious they allegedly drained blood from her.

“The kidnappers then drove along Gwanda Road and dumped the victim at the 15km peg after Kensington. She reported the matter to the police.

“She was then taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals for medical help,” he said.

“Police are still looking for the suspects. We urge members of the public to utilise public transport and shun boarding private taxis,” he said. Newsday

Is Formula Milk Good For Your Baby?

Formula milk companies are paying social media platforms and influencers to gain direct access to pregnant women and mothers at some of the most vulnerable moments in their lives. The global formula milk industry, valued at some US$ 55 billion, is targeting new mothers with personalized social media content that is often not recognizable as advertising.

A new World Health Organization (WHO) report titled Scope and impact of digital marketing strategies for promoting breast-milk substitutes has outlined the digital marketing techniques designed to influence the decisions new families make on how to feed their babies.

Through tools like apps, virtual support groups or ‘baby-clubs’, paid social media influencers, promotions and competitions and advice forums or services, formula milk companies can buy or collect personal information and send personalized promotions to new pregnant women and mothers.

The report summarizes findings of new research that sampled and analyzed 4 million social media posts about infant feeding published between January and June 2021 using a commercial social listening platform. These posts reached 2.47 billion people and generated more than 12 million likes, shares or comments.

Formula milk companies post content on their social media accounts around 90 times per day, reaching 229 million users; representing three times as many people as are reached by informational posts about breastfeeding from non-commercial accounts.

This pervasive marketing is increasing purchases of breast-milk substitutes and therefore dissuading mothers from breastfeeding exclusively as recommended by WHO.

“The promotion of commercial milk formulas should have been terminated decades ago,” said Dr Francesco Branca, Director of the WHO Nutrition and Food Safety department. “The fact that formula milk companies are now employing even more powerful and insidious marketing techniques to drive up their sales is inexcusable and must be stopped.”

The report compiled evidence from social listening research on public online communications and individual country reports of research that monitors breast-milk substitute promotions, as well as drawing on a recent multi-country study of mothers’ and health professionals’ experiences of formula milk marketing. The studies show how misleading marketing reinforces myths about breastfeeding and breast milk and undermines women’s confidence in their ability to breastfeed successfully.

The proliferation of global digital marketing of formula milk blatantly breaches the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes (the Code), which was adopted by the 1981 World Health Assembly.

The Code is a landmark public health agreement designed to protect the general public and mothers from aggressive marketing practices by the baby food industry that negatively impact breastfeeding practices.

Despite clear evidence that exclusive and continued breastfeeding are key determinants of improved lifelong health for children, women and communities, far too few children are breastfed as recommended. If current formula milk marketing strategies continue, that proportion could fall still further, boosting companies’ profits.

The fact that these forms of digital marketing can evade scrutiny from national monitoring and health authorities means new approaches to Code-implementing regulation and enforcement are required. Currently, national legislation may be evaded by marketing that originates beyond borders.

WHO has called on the baby food industry to end exploitative formula milk marketing, and on governments to protect new children and families by enacting, monitoring and enforcing laws to end all advertising or other promotion of formula milk products.

Cops Torture Harare Woman, Leaves Her For Dead

By- The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights has exposed two members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) who tortured a Harare woman.

ZLHR said Constable Murwisi and Constable Mandeya brutally assaulted 30-year-old Zororo Mazhawidza at Harare Central Police Station in the presence of her one-month-old baby.

The torture and assault occurred on 10 March 2021.

Mazhawidza was left bleeding from her private parts and nursing some injuries following the assault.

The cops reportedly placed a wooden plank behind her knees and lifted her in the air such that her head was upside down.

They then started assaulting her with truncheons just below her backsides which resulted in her defecating and urinating on herself.

The police officers accused Mazhawidza of stealing a Pre-paid Command Agriculture Fuel Card belonging to one Reginald and converting the fuel for her own use.

However, Mazhawidza told the police officers that she had not stolen the pre-paid fuel card but was just simply holding onto it until Reginald paid her US$1 100 which she had advanced to him.

The assault and torture only stopped after Mazhawidza produced the pre-paid fuel card.

The cops instructed Mazhawidza to clean up her mess and dispose of it. They later released her without any charge preferred against her.

Through ZLHR’s Tinashe Chinopfukutwa, Mazhawidza sued both Constable Murwisi and Constable Mandeya in their personal capacity together with Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe and ZRP Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga for ZWL$900 000 in damages arising from the torture.

In response to Mazhawidza’s summons to the respondents, Luckson Muradzikwa of the Attorney General’s Office wrote to Chinopfukutwa seeking to settle the matter out of court.

Muradzikwa told Chinopfukutwa that his clients want the damages claim of ZWL$900 000 to be reduced but the latter insisted that Constable Murwisi, Constable Mandeya, Kazembe and Matanga should pay the full amount.

Judgment on the matter is pending before the Harare Magistrate Court.
