By A Correspondent- A 25 year old Mudzi man was arraigned before Mutoko magistrates courts after he assaulted his brother’s wife with a shovel after accusing her of refusing to release his wife’s clothes.

Trymore Tasikani was sentenced to 12 months in  prison by Mutoko magistrate  Elijah Sibanda.

Three months were suspended on condition of good behaviour while the remaining nine months were suspended for 315 hours of community service at Rwamba primary school in Mudzi.

Prosecutor  Nathan Majuru told the court that on March 25  Tasikani approached his brother’s wife Nurse Shaye (30) and accused her of refusing to release his wife’s clothes.

In a fit of rage, the convict picked a wooden handle and assaulted Shaye all over the body.

Shaye was seriously injured and filed a police report leading to the arrest of Tasikani.

By A Correspondent- A Shamva man was last week jailed for 3 months for allegedly striking another man with a catapult accusing him of cheating with his wife.

 Kinnah Tiribhoyi (21) of Chipoli in Shamva couldn’t swallow the fact that Pardon Chando of the same village was exchanging steamy texts messages with his wife hence he decided to strike him.

“I catapulted him. He was in the habit of exchanging steamy SMSs with my wife. I came across their chat and when I confronted him, he did not show any remorse so I got angry,” said Tiribhoyi.

According to police sources, the accused person approached the complainant over the issue and he denied.

This led to the accused striking the complainant with a catapult on the right arm.

The accused sustained a swollen hand and no medical report was availed.

Presiding over the case at Bindura magistrates courts, Shingirai Mutiro sentenced the accused to 4 months imprisonment with an option to pay ZWL 40 000.
3 months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

Meanwhile, a Mutoko man was also sentenced to 5 months in prison for stealing a motorbike last week.

Joshua Bepe of Mudzi allegedly stole a motorbike belonging to Tsabora Maruza also of Mudzi.

The motorcycle was stolen at Maruza’s homestead and police managed to recover it in the custody of Bepe in Mudzi Business Centre.

As a result Bepe was sentenced to an effective 5 months imprisonment with 3 months  suspended on condition of  good behaviour.

Elijah Sibanda presided over the case with Richard Mbambe presenting the State.

Police details watched as Zanu PF thugs stoned CCC councillor Lovemore Maiko in Chitungwiza.

This was said by CCC vice chairperson Hon Job Sikhala.

Hon Sikhala also dismissed Mr Mnangagwa’s voodoo economics.

“The effects of voodoo economics by Mnangagwa.

Zimbabwe needs new leaders,” said Hon Sikhala.

“The person u c being attacked by ZANU PF thugs is our Ward 7 Cllr Lovemore Maiko during the by election campaign.

Zanu PF man Sybeth Musengezi who is challenging Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s legitimacy has been hauled to court for allegedly acquiring a party card fraudulently.

Musengezi argues Mr Mnangagwa illegally rose to power following the removal of Robert Mugabe from power via a military coup.

According to a NewsDay report Musengezi, a former Zanu PF youth league member, appeared in court on Friday.

The State said Musengezi used various addresses to fraudulently obtain a Zanu PF card and contest the party’s elections.

“The other address which the accused submitted did not exist. There is another address in Budiriro which the accused used, but it was confirmed that the accused did not reside there,” the State submitted.

“Musengezi’s homestead in Mt Darwin was another address which was used and following investigations we discovered that the accused never resided there….”

There are six witnesses in the case, the State said.

The State averred that Musengezi was a bad candidate for bail because he had business interests outside the country and was likely to flee.

The court alleges that on a date yet to be established in 2012, Musengezi acting in common purpose with Allen Chisuko and Taurai Mutimbanyoka misrepresented to Zanu PF that he resided at House Number 4315 Hatcliffe Extension, Harare in order to become a member of the party’s Muzinda 1A district.

The court heard that as a result of the misrepresentation, Musengezi fraudulently became a member of that district.

The State also alleges that in 2019 the accused again connived with Mutimbanyoka and misrepresented that he Musengezi, was a cell member of Zanu PF’s Mai Chitepo branch (Muzinda 1 district) and that he resided at house number 4461 Hatcliffe Extension, Harare.

As a result of the misrepresentation, Musengezi became eligible to contest for a Zanu PF branch post.

Anesu Chirenje prosecuted.

By A Correspondent- A man from Bulawayo apparently feared that he may never be able to use his sexual organ again after his ex-wife allegedly clasped and squeezed it together with his testicles so hard that he struggled to have an erection for almost three weeks.

Ronreth Chipxadu from Burnside suburb claimed that his organ was demobilised for three weeks after his former wife Olitha Ndlovu tried to pull it off during an argument.

He said whenever they had an argument, Olitha had a habit of grabbing his private parts. The incident which nearly had a disastrous ending was heard at the Bulawayo Civil Court where Ronreth was seeking a restraining order against Olitha.

Ronreth claimed that so violent was his ex-wife that she was in the habit of coming to his place to attack him with dangerous weapons such as axes and knives.

“I am here begging the court to help me solve the problems I am facing from my ex-wife. When we divorced, she took all the matrimonial property and surprisingly she is still coming back to my house without my consent to fight with me.

“When fighting with me she uses dangerous and sharp objects like axes and knives saying her intention is to kill me. She is always shouting at me.

Whenever we have a misunderstanding, she pulls my private parts. At one time she pulled my private parts twice and it took almost three weeks for my privates to get an erection,” lamented Ronreth.

He said at one time his ex-wife took an axe and threw it at him and fortunately it missed its target. In response Olitha claimed that when she pulled her ex-husband’s private parts she had been acting in self-defence.

“I am opposed to his application. He is the one who used to abuse me. After he had a girlfriend, he moved out of the house. When he later returned home, I was on my periods and he asked to have sex with me and I refused and that’s when we started fighting.

“While fighting, he strangled me and that’s when I reached for his private parts. I did that because he was sexually abusing me. I also dispute that I threw an axe at him,” responded Olitha.

In her ruling the presiding magistrate Nomasiko Ndlovu ordered Olitha not to verbally and physically abuse her ex-husband, or make threats of violence against him.

The magistrate also ordered her not to visit him at his residence.

By A Correspondent- Socialite Olinda Chapel has torched a social media storm after commenting on comedienne Felistas “Mai Titi” Maphosa’s marriage which she said was crumbling before the newly weds have finished settling debts incurred from their lavish wedding.

Mai Titi got married to husband Tinashe Maphosa at Royal Gates in Chisipite, Harare where the couple splashed US$100K on a ceremony graced by South African songbird, actress and dancer, Kelly Khumalo.

The social media has been awash with claims that Maphosa had commented and showed that he “liked” another socialite Joey Tinae Nyikadzino allegations which Nyikadzino said were baseless.

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZIMPARKS) has reported that a man was killed by an elephant in Victoria Falls last night.

ZIMPARKS spokesperson, Tinashe Farawo, made the announcement this Saturday encouraging members of the public to minimise movements during the night. He said:

It is with great sadness that a man was killed by an elephant in Vic Falls last night. So far 35 people have been killed in Human-Wildlife Conflict (HWC) across the country. ZIMPARKS encourages communities to minimize movements at night, do not provoke them, and give them space.

35 people have been killed in HWC this year while more than 60 people were killed last year.

Early this week, two elephants that had been found loitering in Chiteni Village under Chief Ndanga, Zaka, were shot and killed by the Zimparks after villagers reported the matter to the police. The meat was given to the villagers, according to Information Secretary, Nick Mangwana.

Human Wildife conflict is a serious challenge in Zimbabwe.

By A Correspondent- Scores of Zimbabwe-bound motorists, haulage truckers and passenger buses were stranded in South Africa on Thursday when residents of Musina went on strike protesting poor service delivery by their municipality.

Parts of Musina, particularly the high-density of Nancefield, have gone for three weeks without running water forcing residents to take   to the streets to register their displeasure.

The protesters burnt tyres, barricading roads leading to Beitbridge Border Post.

In a media release yesterday, the South African Police Services (Saps) said four suspects were arrested for leading the protests that disrupted Zimbabwe-bound traffic.

“More arrests are expected…During the protests, community members went on the rampage, blocked and burned tyres on the roads and some shops in Nancefield location and Musina town were looted. The protesters also damaged a police vehicle, torched a municipal tractor and some municipal buildings,” read part of the Saps statement.

Musina residents mostly complained about poor service delivery.

“The town is crippled. All shops are closed and youths are toy-toying in protests. They have blocked all the major roads in and out of the town. Blockages are from the tollgate 20 kilometres south of the town where protesters have camped on the N1 Highway,” a shop assistant told Southern Eye from Musina.

“We have been buying water from  vendors because our taps are dry.”

Officials from the Musina Municipality who were part of a South African delegation that toured Beitbridge recently on their way to the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo said they were keen to get water supplies from Zimbabwe.

On Thursday, Zimbabwe’s Agriculture minister Anxious Masuka said government prioritised fixing Beitbridge’s water problems before exporting the commodity.

“We have to satisfy our citizens first before we export. Plans are there, but we have to deal with our own supplies first,” Masuka said.

By A Correspondent- Finance Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube has through Statutory Instrument 96 of 2022 amended Sections 22B, 22G and 39 of the Finance Act to reflect changes on the Intermediated Money Transfer Tax (known as the 2 per cent tax), the Automated financial transactions tax and Rates of capital gains tax withholding tax. We present the SI below:

[CAP. 23:04 Finance (Amendment of Sections 22B, 22G and 39 of Finance Act) Regulations. 2022

IT is hereby notified that the Minister of Finance and Economic Development has, in terms of section 3 of the Finance Act [Chapter 23:04], made the following regulations:—

Title

• 1. These regulations may be cited as the Finance (Amendment of Sections 22B, 22G and 39 of Finance Act) Regulations. 2022.

Substitution of section 228 of Cap. 23:04

• 2. The Finance Act [Chapter 23:04] is amended by the repeal of section 22B and the substitution of—

“22B Automated financial transactions tax.

The automated financial transactions tax chargeable in terms of section 36B of the Taxes Act shall be calculated at the rate of—

• (a) for each withdrawal of one thousand Zimbabwe dollars or above, five Zimbabwe cents;
• (b) for each withdrawal below one thousand United States dollars, five United States cents;
• (c) for each withdrawal of one thousand United States dollars or above, two per centum of the value of the withdrawal.”.

New section substituted for section 22G of Cap. 23:04

• 3. With immediate effect, section 22G of the Finance Act [Chapter 23:04] is repealed and the following is substituted—

“22G Intermediated Money Transfer Tax

The intermediated money transfer tax chargeable in terms of section 36G of the Taxes Act shall be calculated at the rate of —

• (a) zero comma zero two dollars on every Zimbabwe dollar or part thereof transacted for each transaction on which the tax is payable;
• (b) zero comma zero four United States dollars or part thereof on every United States dollar transacted for each transaction on which the tax is payable:

Provided that if a single transaction on which the tax is payable is equivalent to or exceeds —

• (a) sixty-six million Zimbabwe dollars, a flat intermediated money transfer tax of one million three hundred and twenty thousand Zimbabwean dollars shall be chargeable on such transaction; or
• (b) five hundred thousand United States dollars. a flat intermediated money transfer tax of ten thousand one hundred and fifty United States dollars shall be chargeable on such transaction.”.

Amendment of section 39 of Cap. 23:04 4.

With immediate effect, section 39 (“Rates of capital gains tax withholding tax”) of the Finance Act [Chapter 23:04] is amended by the repeal of paragraph (c) and the substitution of—

• “(c) in the case of a sale of a marketable security that is a listed security, one comma five per centum of the price at which the security was sold if such security was held for at least two hundred and seventy (270) days on the date of its sale, or four per centum of the price at which the security was sold if such security was held for less than two hundred and seventy (270) days on the date of its sale.”.

(This note does not form part of the regulations, but explains its purpose) For the avoidance of doubt, all transfers of marketable securities as defined in the Capital Gains Tax are liable to capital gains tax, including transfers not liable to the withholding tax because they are not mediated through a depositary or agent. Where no depositaries or agents are involved, a corporate secretary or other person responsible for the share register should not register any transfer of shares until proof of payment of any capital gains tax due on the transfer is exhibited to him or her.

By A Correspondent- High Court judges of appeal on Thursday ruled in favour of the late former President Robert Mugabe’s children who are challenging the exhumation of their father’s remains for re-burial at the National Heroes Acre.

Bona Mutsahuni, Tinotenda and Bellarmine were challenging an order for the exhumation of Mugabe’s remains and confiscation of their livestock as ordered by Chief Zvimba, Stanley Mhondoro.

In the judgment, Justices Amy Tsanga and Fatima Maxwell ruled against Chinhoyi magistrate Ruth Moyo who had ruled Mugabe’s children had no rights to appeal against a judgment handed by the traditional court against their mother, Grace.

In May 2021, Chief Zvimba ordered the exhumation of Mugabe from his  rural home. The court also fined Grace for breaking burial rites and defaulting.

A messenger of court was granted authority to seize five heifers and a goat, which the Zvimba chief said was for cleansing of the country.

Bona and her siblings were aggrieved by the ruling and took the matter to court.

Bona said she was duly appointed executor to the estate of her father, hence her interest in the matter.

The appeal at the lower court was challenged by Tinos Manongovere, a villager who initiated the matter. The magistrates upheld Manongovere’s challenge.

Bona and her siblings then appealed against the ruling at the High Court which ruled in their favour.

“In the context of customary law, the court finds no absurdity in allowing any person aggrieved by a decision of a community court to appeal against it, even though the aggrieved person was not a party in proceedings before the community court,” the judges ruled.

“The court below erred in restricting the right of appeal to persons who were parties in proceedings before the community court. On the basis of the above, the first and second grounds of appeal succeed.

“The appeal be and is hereby allowed with costs. The judgment of the court a quo is set aside and is substituted as follows, the first preliminary point be and is hereby dismissed and costs be in the cause.”

The judges also referred the matter back to Chinhoyi Magistrates Court for continuation of the hearing.

During the hearing, Bona and her siblings argued that no one except them had the authority over their father’s grave, warning that anyone who would tamper with it would be committing a criminal offence as outlined in the Burial Act.

Through their lawyer, Tawanda Zhuwarara, Mugabe’s children insisted that the lower court must first determine if the traditional leader who ordered the exhumation and reburial had the rights to do so.

Mugabe died aged 95 in September 2019 and was buried at Kutamba after his family refused to have him interred at the National Heroes Acres.-newsday

By A Correspondent- Police in Wedza, Mashonaland East province, have launched a manhunt for 12 Mugodhi Apostolic Faith Church members over the violence that erupted at the church’s headquarters during Easter.

The suspects are all members of a faction led by Washington Mugodhi who allegedly assaulted a rival faction on April 14 as the fight for control of the church turned ugly.

Five church members were arrested and taken to Marondera Magistrates Court on public violence charges. They were remanded to May 20 on $15 000 bail each.

According to police, the majority of the suspects are from Masvingo province.

The suspects were identified in a video that was shot during the melee at the shrine.

The church has been rocked by a bitter leadership wrangle following the death of Thadeau Mugodhi in 2019.

The late Mugodhi had appointed his son Washington as successor, a move that angered other sect members who described it as unconstitutional.

One Tonny Sigauke, who claimed to be the rightful heir according to the church constitution, has taken Washington to court for clinging to the throne.

In September 2021, High Court judge Justice Esther Muremba ruled  that Sigauke did not have authority to represent the church while Washington’s appointment was declared null and void.

 By A Correspondent- A man from Tsholotsho has been arrested after he thrashed his wife with a Mopani stick, kicked her and stomped her throat resulting in her dying after he busted her sleeping on her alleged lover’s bed.

According to a source close to the case, Qhelani Tshabalala from Maphani Line in Tsholotsho, which falls under Chief Mathuphula’s jurisdiction, had been married to Kujani Mudenda (32) for a couple of years.

On Sunday at around 6pm, while Tshabalala was at Mlagisa business centre, one of his brothers approached him and told him that his wife was in a room with her secret lover.

The shocked Tshabalala rushed to the room and found his wife lying on the bed of a man named Tinashe (surname not provided), but Tinashe was not in the room.

Tshabalala teamed up with his two brothers, Phethani Tshabalala and Zenzo Tshabalala and together they tried to hunt down Tinashe but they failed to find him.

After the fruitless manhunt, Tshabalala force marched his wife home.

“While they were on the way, he quizzed her on why she was sleeping in Tinashe’s room and why she came to the business centre without telling him.

“He thrashed her several times with a mopani stick all over the body and kicked her in the face before stomping her on the throat,” said the source close to investigations.

Mudenda fell unconscious, the source said, and Tshabalala panicked and rushed to inform his mother. His mother, the source said, prepared porridge and took it to the scene.

“They found her breathing with difficulty and she tried to feed her with porridge but she died in her arms,” said the source.

They reported the matter to the police leading to Tshabalala’s arrest.

Police took the deceased’s body to the United Bulawayo Hospitals for post-mortem.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson Glory Banda confirmed the incident.

Insp Banda urged community members to engage relatives, friends, pastors, traditional leaders rather than to take the law into their hands.

By A Correspondent- A man from Selbourne Park, a low-density suburb in Bulawayo, has died after he was attacked by his own dogs. 

The dogs mistook John Gavhera (61) for an intruder and attacked him after jumping over his gate, having forgotten his keys at work. Reads a police memo:

The deceased jumped over the gate since he had forgotten the gate keys and since no one was at home and went inside the house to collect his toolbox. In no time the deceased was then heard rebuking his dog by a student who stays next door.

The neighbours then saw through the precast wall the deceased lying on the ground whilst three Boer bull dogs were biting him all over the body, dragging him and tearing his clothes.

Observations at the scene were that there were three big, vicious Boer bull cross breeds which were inside the yard which is durawalled (precast wall) and has a black gate. A torn work suit and phone was found near the gate, a blue monarch bag with tools was also found at the gate.

The neighbours could only watch the incident unfold from a distance as they feared the dogs would attack him.

The dogs were stopped when police were called in about 40 minutes later.

Gavhera was taken to a medical facility, where he eventually succumbed to the injuries that evening.

By A Correspondent- The opposition Citizens Coalition Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa, yesterday accused ZANU PF of trying to buy the loyalty of traditional leaders ahead of the 2023 general elections.

This comes as the government is planning to review traditional leaders’ allowances, put them on medical aid, service their vehicles and allocate them fuel, to cushion them against economic turbulences.

CCC spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere,  accused the ruling party of trying to bribe chiefs. She said:

We condemn this brazen attempt to buy the loyalty of chiefs with trinkets. We respect the role and importance of traditional leaders but we are opposed to them being used to participate in partisan politics.

Traditional leaders must be non-partisan and put the interests of the citizens they lead ahead of any partisan agenda.

Chapter 15.2 of the Constitution forbids traditional leaders from being members of any political party or in any way participating in partisan politics.

Traditional leaders have faced accusations of being ZANU PF appendages with Chiefs Council president Fortune Charumbira openly declaring his allegiance to the ruling party.

But Zanu PF director of information Tafadzwa Mugwadi said the ruling party does not believe in bribing people to vote for it adding, “Our secret to victory is servant leadership and development.”

Last year, Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga warned chiefs that they risked being stripped of their positions for criticising the ZANU PF government.

Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Obert Masaraure said the government should also show the same zeal to improve the welfare of civil servants.-newsday

In a report, seen by this publication, police said the suspects include three Democratic Republic of Congo nationals and one Tanzanian. Reads the report:

Counterfeit pharmaceutical drugs have been flooding Zimbabwean streets and have been attracting huge interest from members of the public who cannot afford to buy from registered pharmacies due to the deteriorating state of affairs. While cheaper, counterfeit drugs have the potential to negatively affect the health of those who use them.

The United Kingdom parliament has attacked the former British ambassador to Zimbabwe, Catriona Laing, over her links with Zanu PF.

UK lawmakers said Laing’s links with Zanu PF resulted in her misleading the British government into believing President Emmerson Mnangagwa was a reformist.

Laing was the UK ambassador to Zimbabwe from 2014 and oversaw the transition from the Mugabe administration to the Mnangagwa regime while supporting Zanu PF and allegedly misleading London.
Debating in the UK Parliament last week, the British MPs said despite glaring misgivings on Mnangagwa’s capacity to usher in a new era divorced from human rights violations, corruption and other vices, their former ambassador, now the country’ top diplomat in Nigeria, was surprisingly close to Zanu PF, particularly Mnangagwa.

Laing was accused of failing to give reports on the real situation on the ground ahead of the coup and the 2018 elections.

Kate Hoey, member of the House of Lords in the UK, told the House that they visited Zimbabwe together with other lawmakers ahead of the 2018 elections and wrote a “depressing report” that also indicated how surprised they were of Laing’s close Zanu-PF ties.

“In 2018, just before the last presidential election I, along with the right honourable Conor Burns, visited Zimbabwe to write a report for the UK branch of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association on the possibilities of a free and fair election and the chances of Zimbabwe rejoining the Commonwealth,” Hoey said.

“We did not put Zimbabwe out, of course: it left. It was a depressing report. The Zimbabwean Electoral Commission (Zec) was not impartial and the voter roll was inadequate, for starters. The constitution was being ignored, so we wrote of our disappointment and surprise that our ambassador at that time seemed to be so close to the ruling Zanu-PF party,” she said.

However, Hoey saluted the current UK ambassador to Zimbabwe, Melanie Robinson, for doing a great job.

“I have to say that the current ambassador is doing a great job and is widely respected,” Hoey added.

She said they sounded warnings that Mnangagwa was not a reformist and likely to perpetuate Mugabe’s heavy-handedness.

“Many of us in the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Zimbabwe at that time tried to warn of the danger and futility of expecting change from Mnangagwa. Not for nothing is he known as the crocodile. We were dismissed by some as needlessly pessimistic and lacking understanding of his desire to change but, as forecast, the pattern set by Mugabe was carried forward with sustained intensity and vigour, complying with plans cunningly crafted with the help of the military. Those had been planned for some time. Unfortunately too many of the agencies working in the country and too many diplomats initially fell for his lies and rather evil charm,” Hoey said.

“We were told that a new chapter of peace, economic efficiency and prosperity would be opened up. They have certainly opened up a new chapter, but it is the same horror story of corruption, greed and violent oppression. The only expertise Zanu-PF has ever shown, I am afraid, is in brutality, lying, theft and terror.”

In 2018, Laing was forced to deny Hoey and Burns’ allegations that she showed bias towards Mnangagwa and mocked then MDC-Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa in the run-up to the elections.

She was also under fire for being aloof following the army-led 1 August 2018 shootings that killed six unarmed civilians.

“We were disappointed at how every element of civil society and politicians outside Zanu-PF had the belief that the UK embassy — and in particular the ambassador is biased in favour of the incumbent regime,” the report read.

“Huge offence was taken that our ambassador wore a Mnangagwa scarf outside 10 Downing Street earlier this year on her visit to the UK. This offence and fear of bias was compounded when the first person to re-tweet it from his official account was Mnangagwa himself.”

“The embassy organised a dinner for us to meet some Zimbabweans and we found that most were supporters of Zanu-PF. Indeed prior to the dinner the ambassador was openly ridiculing the leader of the MDC-Alliance,” the two MPs said in their critical report.

On 5 August 2018, Laing took to microblogging site Twitter to deny reports of ridiculing Chamisa.

“I certainly did not ridicule Chamisa who I recognize as a major political figure in Zimbabwe. I believe he and I have a good relationship and we meet regularly. We had a good meeting just before election, discussing his plans if he won, and we spoke soon after,” she said.

In 2016, even the late former MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai warned of the Western diplomats’ views on Mnangagwa as a reformist in apparent reference to Laing.

“I was with one of the ambassadors who was talking about Mnangagwa being a pragmatist, but I said he is a pragmatist on other issues, but a hardliner on issues of governance and democracy,” he said then.

“Mnangagwa’s statement confirms that he is a hardliner, he has always been and not the reformist and pragmatist that some in the diplomatic community have begun to think he is.”

By- The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) recruits who qualified for the second phase of vetting after running a timed 10km marathon last month were examined over their opinions on Nelson Chamisa becoming Zimbabwe’s president.

The 44-year-old former ICT Minister is the leader of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).

ZimLive interviewed two people who took part in the vetting exercise and corroborated the information.

After undergoing a medical examination, the recruits were sat down for a written test which featured 23 questions starting with the requirement to write a two-page biography.

Speaking on condition they were not named, the would-be recruits recalled that they were asked

i). Given the history of Zimbabwe which you know, how do you view Mr Nelson Chamisa being the next head of state?

ii). Zimbabwe is facing economic challenges. Which political party do you wish to win in 2023?

iii). Do you see Mr Nelson Chamisa winning the 2023 harmonised elections, why do you think so?

The military top brass, according to sources, has in recent years ordered recruiters to give preference to young recruits who attended rural schools owing to a perception that those who attended city schools are aligned with the opposition.

Chamisa’s spokesperson Nkululeko Sibanda said if the reports are true, they represented an abuse of state institutions.

He added that the army should not be aligned with any political party.

The military has in the past been accused of campaigning for the ruling ZANU PF and terrorising members of the opposition.

By- The High Court has ruled against the exhumation of the former President Robert Mugabe’s body.

The Hight Thursday ruled in favour of the late former President’s children who are challenging the exhumation of their father’s remains for re-burial at the National Heroes Acre.

Bona Mutsahuni, Tinotenda and Bellarmine were challenging the exhumation of Mugabe’s remains and confiscation of their livestock as ordered by Chief Zvimba, Stanley Mhondoro.

In the judgment, Justices Amy Tsanga and Fatima Maxwell ruled against Chinhoyi magistrate Ruth Moyo who had ruled that Mugabe’s children had no right to appeal against a judgment handed by the traditional court against their mother, Grace. 

Order Of Events In The Case:

a). In May 2021, Chief Zvimba ordered the exhumation of Mugabe from his rural home. The court also fined Grace for breaking burial rites and defaulting.

By- Police in Harare are investigating a case in which unknown two women kidnapped a local man.

The women were reported to have collected semen from the subject.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Julius Chakanza, confirmed the case. He said the victim was referred to Sally Mugabe Hospital for treatment.
“Police are investigating a case of kidnapping and aggravated indecent assault of a man that took place in Glen View,” said Insp Chakanza.

“Circumstances were that on May 1, 2022, at about 2015 hours, the complainant was walking in Glen View 1, due north towards Patrenda Way, when he was approached by a black motor vehicle.
“The vehicle was reported to have stopped in front of the complainant and a man pushed the complainant into the vehicle and sped off.
“In the vehicle, there were two men and two women and one of the accused persons was reported to have blindfolded the victim with a black cloth. The victim was driven to a house, after travelling for almost 40 minutes, and lost his cellphone and US$40,” said Insp Chakanza.
The victim was reported to have been sexually abused by one of the female members of the gang. The following day, another female member of the gang gave him bread, and eggs, before sexually abusing him.

On May 3, 2022, the complainant was blindfolded, tied on both hands and legs and taken back to Glen View, where he was stabbed once on his left shoulder.

By- The police have given in to the public pressure and withdrew the use of spikes on the vehicle.

In a statement Friday, ZRP said no police officer was allowed to use handheld spikes to stop traffic.

The use of spikes by the police on moving vehicles has caused accidents, most of which killed innocent people in central Harare and Bulawayo.

By-Karoi Town Council Human Resources Officer, Ms Zuva Chirinhe and Mrs Naume Mapfuti Kachinji have died in a head-on collision while travelling back to Karoi from Harare.

Mashonaland West provincial police spokeswoman, Inspector Magret Chitove, said the accident happened on Wednesday, at around 6:30 pm.

Mrs Kachinji is believed to have been the sister of a Council driver.

Glastain Kachinji and Council Accountant Simba Shava, were injured and transferred to Harare for treatment.
Chitove said the Honda Fit was on its way back to Karoi from Harare.
“A truck, which was coming from the direction of Chinhoyi, was sideswiped by a tanker, leading to a head-on collision with the Honda Fit,” said Chitove.

Karoi Mayor, Cllr Abel Matsika, told H-Metro the tragic accident was a huge blow to the local authority.
“It is a huge blow to the Council, whose staff size is fast depleting due to circumstances that we can’t control such as this one,” said Cllr Matsika.
“As Karoi, we mourn with the bereaved families and wish those in hospital a quick recovery.”
He said he was on his way to Harare to visit those who survived the crash.
“As I speak, I am visiting the accident scene as well as proceeding to see the injured,” he said.
“Our HR manager was a very humble lady, rich in expertise and experience .The organisation will miss her,” said Matsika.

SOME Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers have pleaded guilty to torturing a Harare woman, whom they brutalised last year.

30 year-old Zororo Mazhawidza was left bleeding from her private parts and nursing some injuries after she was severely assaulted and tortured at Harare Central Police Station in the presence of her one month-old baby by two ZRP officers identified as Constable Murwisi and Constable Mandeya.

Mazhawidza was assaulted by Constable Murwisi and Constable Mandeya, who arrested her on 10 March 2021 after accusing her of stealing a Pre-paid Command Agriculture Fuel Card belonging to one Reginald and converting the fuel for her own use, a charge which she denied and told the ZRP officers that she was just simply holding onto the pre-paid fuel card as lien to secure payment of her US$1 100 which she had advanced to Reginald.

The torture by Constable Murwisi and Constable Mandeya, Mazhawidza said, entailed placing a wooden plank behind her knees and lifting her in the air such that her head was upside down before they started assaulting her with truncheons just below her backsides which resulted in her defecating and urinated on herself.

The assault and torture only stopped after Mazhawidza produced the pre-paid fuel card.

After the torture, Constable Murwisi and Constable Mandeya ordered her to clean up her faeces and to dispose of it.

Later on, Mazhawidza was released without any charge preferred against her.

After being dismayed by the dehumanising treatment at the hands of the ZRP officers, Mazhawidza engaged Tinashe Chinopfukutwa of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, who sued both Constable Murwisi and Constable Mandeya in their personal capacity together with Home ffairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Hon. Kazembe Kazembe and ZRP

Out of the ZWL900 000, Mazhawidza wants Constable Murwisi, Constable Mandeya, Hon. Kazembe and Matanga, to pay her ZWL300 000 as damages for pain and suffering, ZWL300 000 for unlawful arrest and detention and ZWL300 000 for embarrassment, humiliation, affront to dignity and contumelia.

In response to Mazhawidza’s summons, Constable Murwisi, Constable Mandeya, Hon. Kazembe and Matanga, who are represented by Luckson Muradzikwa of the Attorney General’s Office wrote to Chinopfukutwa telling the human rights lawyer that his clients were not disputing liability and sought to settle the matter out of court as there is no
plausible defence on the merits of the case.

Muradzikwa told Chinopfukutwa that his clients wants the damages claim of ZWL900 000 to be revised downwards.

However, Chinopfukutwa insisted that the damages sought are justified due to the circumstances of the case and Constable Murwisi, Constable Mandeya, Hon. Kazembe and Matanga should pay the full amount.

Judgment on the matter is pending before the Harare Magistrate Court
