What You Need To Know About Noncommunicable Diseases

WHO welcomes the establishment of a new Heads of State and Government Group to accelerate progress towards the SDG target for noncommunicable diseases ̶ a one-third reduction in “premature” deaths from diseases like diabetes, cancer, heart and lung disease and the promotion of mental health and well-being.

The decision was taken at the inaugural International Strategic Dialogue on Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) and the Sustainable Development Goals, held today in Accra, Ghana, where a new Global Compact on NCDs was launched. The dialogue was co-hosted by WHO, together with the Governments of Ghana and Norway.

Heads of State highlighted the urgency of the NCD pandemic, which kills 7 out of 10 people globally from risk factors like tobacco, alcohol, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, and air pollution.

NCDs are largely preventable and treatable, nearly 7 million lives could be saved for just US$ 0.84 per person per year from now until 2030. This investment would realize more than US$ 230 billion in economic and societal benefits and avert nearly 10 million heart attacks and strokes globally by 2030.

The Heads of States and Governments Group announced that it will gather countries championing the NCD agenda and will convene annually at the UN General Assembly. The first meeting is expected to take place in September 2022.

The NCD Compact will focus on five key areas of commitment:

saving, by 2030, the lives of 50 million people from dying prematurely of NCDs by implementing the most cost-effective measures to prevent and control NCDs;
protecting 1.7 billion people living with NCDs by ensuring that they have access to the medicines and care they need during humanitarian emergencies;
integrating NCDs within primary health care and universal health coverage;
comprehensive NCD surveillance and monitoring; and
meaningfully engaging 1.7 billion people living with NCDs and mental health conditions in policy-making and programming.
The economic, as well as the health, benefits of investing in NCDs was a clear theme at the Dialogue. Norway has been a frontrunner in investment in the fight against NCDs, investing internationally, becoming the first donor country to include NCDs in its international development strategy.

Mr Nana Addo Dankwa Afuko-Addo, President of Ghana, outlined the successes of Ghana in implementing tobacco demand-reduction measures and introducing guidelines for NCD management, but also highlighted the challenges for lower-income countries in accelerating action.

Statements from the meeting:

Mr Nana Addo Dankwa Afuko-Addo, President of Ghana:

“Tacking the phenomenon of NCDs requires leadership to provide visibility to NCD issues. I ask my Heads of State colleagues to join hands with me as we establish a Presidential Group (non-binding), and as we find solutions to NCDs with a roadmap of universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals. In our time, this will be our legacy”.

Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization:

“Apart from the lives they take, NCDs take a heavy toll on economies, cutting down people in their most productive years. Overcoming this challenge requires technical, financial, and above all, political commitment. I thank the Governments of Norway and Ghana for establishing the first Global Heads of State and Government Group on NCDs, and launching the Global NCD Compact 2020-2030.”

Mr Jonas Gahr Støre, Prime Minister of Norway:

“Investing in stronger health systems, service delivery and the prevention of NCDs will make vulnerable populations more resilient to COVID-19 and future pandemics. This is also vital for promoting universal health coverage. NCD prevention, and access to treatment and medicine must be a core component in the efforts to enhance pandemic preparedness and response, and in building back better in the post-pandemic recovery.”

Dr Matshidiso Moeti, WHO Regional Director for Africa:

“Noncommunicable diseases account for nearly a third of deaths in Africa, where they not only pose a grave threat to health and well-being, but also blunt socioeconomic development. The commitment reached today marks a crucial step in speeding up the progress against these diseases and their risk factors as well as the suffering and deaths they cause.

Mnangagwa Freezes In Front Of Villagers

By– President Emmerson Mnangagwa has frozen in front of Binga villagers.

ZimLive reports that the 79-year-old Zanu PF leader had been speaking for 50 minutes in Binga on April 13 when he was suddenly overcome by a brain freeze.

“Next weekend, Christians have Good Friday…,” Mnangagwa began. Then, as hundreds of people watched on, he leaned away from the microphone and turned to his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga, with the most extraordinary question.
“What’s Good Friday for by the way, was it the birth or the death (of Jesus Christ)?”
As Chiwenga patiently gave him an impromptu sermon, Mnangagwa’s confusion only intensified. “So when was Jesus born?” he pressed his deputy.
The exchange went on for half-a-minute, until a supporter in the audience shouted: “ED Pfee!”
“Yeah,” Mnangagwa said as he returned to the microphone – apparently unaware it was picking every word from his chat with Chiwenga.
“I was asking whether Good Friday marks the birth or death of Christ,” he admitted.
But just moments later, he asked again if the next weekend was Easter.
In the Christian faith, Jesus’ birthday is celebrated on December 15 – Christmas – and his death is observed on Good Friday while his resurrection is celebrated on Easter Monday – the third day of his crucifixion.

Biti Speaks On Foiled Mako Abduction

By- Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) deputy President, Tendai Biti, said the recent attempts by Zanu PF to abduct his party activist Makomborero Haruzivishe were embarrassing.

Biti denounced the Monday night attack saying President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration does not respect human rights.

 He said:

The latest attempt to kidnap Makomborero Haruzivishe is proof beyond reasonable doubt that the Mnangagwa regime is an incorrigible regime with no respect of human rights.

It will never reconcile itself to the vision of a stable, peaceful, united, democratic, free Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwe we all want.

Unidentified men purporting to be police officers in plain clothes reportedly approached Haruzivishe, manhandled and cuffed him, trying to arrest him.

Haruzivishe was saved by members of the public.

In a Facebook live video, the activist is heard resisting the would-be abductors and demanding to see the men’s identity documents.

Haruzivishe later added on Twitter saying he does not “understand why I was attacked in a clear abduction attempt yesterday.”

Haruzivishe spent 10 months and 22 days in prison last year for allegedly inciting public violence after he staged a demonstration in Harare last year.

He was also facing several other criminal charges.

Mnangagwa Offers Cabbages To Teachers

By- The government said it was going to give teachers a small grocery each as a way of augmenting their paltry salaries.

In a tweet sent by ZBC, the government said teachers would be given a head of cabbage, a bottle of cooking oil and a loaf of bread per month.

SA Government Sanitises Xenophobia

By- The South Africa government said it would not be moved by claims that they were being xenophobic by kicking out undocumented foreigners.

SA home affairs minister Aaron Motsoaledi said he would continue to lock up all undocumented immigrants resident in that country.

His remarks come amid attacks on foreign nationals by vigilante groups under an operation code-named Dudula which claim to be targeting undocumented foreigners.

Motsoaledi was addressing an ANC regional conference in the Eastern Cape where the minister pledged that “unlike other coward ANC leaders”, his views on the scourge of undocumented foreign nationals running amok in the country will never be censored.

Motsoaledi said SA is the only sovereign country in the world where it is open season for “rascals” who have committed serious crimes in their countries of birth. He said:

One of the things that is contemporary in SA which is a big elephant in the room, and we are trying to run away from that elephant by keeping quiet, is the issue of immigration.

Why is the ANC keeping quiet and believing [this problem] will go away? It is not going to go away.

We must not be scared or embarrassed to mention the truth. I am in home affairs. I know what I am talking about.

Something is going wrong in our continent and SA is on the receiving end. When you talk, they take a big word and throw it at you and South Africans blink and run away. There is a word called xenophobia. Every time you try to show something is wrong, ‘xenophobia’.

We are the only country that accepts rascals. Even the UN is angry with us that SA has a tendency, because of something called democracy, to accept all the rascals of the world.

When people do wrong things in their countries, they run here. There is that guy from [Czech Republic] named Radovan Krejcir. He ran all the way to come and do nonsense here.

Motsoaledi said he was determined to see the undocumented foreigners thrown “in jail, locked in and the keys have been thrown away, then I will step down — only then.”

Zimbos Return Home As Xenophobia Attacks Intensify

By- Dozens of Zimbabweans leaving in South Africa are repatriating their valuables, furniture and appliances, as xenophobic threats intensify.

Recent attacks in South Africa on immigrants by members of groups such as Operation Dudula, Dudula Movement and PutSouthAfricaFirst have resulted in the murder of a Zimbabwean national, Elvis Nyathi, who was beaten and set alight outside his home in Diepsloot.

Nyathi was buried last week in Bulawayo with the assistance of the government of Zimbabwe.

Groundup.org.za reports that more than five bus companies that operate cross-border trips to Zimbabwe every week say they have seen a huge increase in luggage being sent home.
Samson Chanetsa, the owner of Red Lion Bus Company, said he had seen an increase in goods being sent to Zimbabwe. He said:
We are carrying more luggage than passengers because people are afraid of falling victim to xenophobic violence. We used to travel with not more than 40 passengers per trip. We are now having a small number of travellers to Zimbabwe as people are spending more money on sending their luggage.
We are charging the same prices on luggage we charged last year. A double-door fridge remains at R1,500. This is the same price we have been charging in the festive season.
A driver, who did not want his employer to be named or to be named himself, said they were sometimes transporting less than 20 passengers while they were experiencing an unprecedented volume of luggage. He added, “That is where we are making our profit.”
Farisai Nyamadzawo, a domestic worker who has lived in Gqeberha for 15 years with her husband and their two children says they sent their household furniture and appliances to Zimbabwe by bus as they feared they could end up losing everything.

She added that they were not planning to relocate to Zimbabwe anytime soon because they are holders of the Zimbabwe Exemption Permits.
Kuda Munyoro, a general worker at a smallholding in Sea View, and has been in South Africa for three years, joined hands with four Zimbabwean colleagues and paid R12 000 for their furniture and goods to be loaded on a bus from Gqeberha train station to Zimbabwe.
He said he was yet to decide on whether to go home for good or to remain in South Africa adding that he will apply for an asylum permit.

Salah Taunts Manchester United After Emphatic Victory

Liverpool opened a two-point lead at the top of the Premier League after inflicting another comprehensive victory over Manchester United.

Mohamed Salah’s first two goals since February 19 – making it nine in his last six matches against Liverpool’s big rivals – were supplemented by strikes from Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane but the 4-0 scoreline hardly told the whole story.

This was the first time since October 2009 Liverpool had won three successive league matches against United, beaten 5-0 at Old Trafford earlier this season, and pulled them clear of Manchester City, who play Brighton on Wednesday night.

Liverpool supporters voice support for grieving Cristiano Ronaldo
United, who had one shot on target, have now conceded more Premier League goals this season than 18th-placed Burnley, and defeat was a further blow to their top-four hopes.

Such were their injury problems – with Cristiano Ronaldo given compassionate leave after the tragic death of his newborn son – Phil Jones made only his third appearance of the season.

By the time Paul Pogba added to those woes by coming off after 10 minutes his side were already behind.

However, injuries appeared the least of their worries. Getting a touch of the ball was the more pressing concern as Liverpool dominated from the off.

Their two banks of five were either too disjointed or too inert to have any effect on proceedings and, as a result, their hosts – led by the majestic Thiago Alcantara – seized an initiative they never relinquished.

“When we have these attackers in front of us and you see not only how they score but in defensive situations they want to get involved. It makes us perform,” said Thiago afterwards.

“It is one of the strongest performances at Anfield. We are not worried about where the goals come from. We are happy with all the strikers and how we play.”

Salah added: “In midfield they make our life easier. We have a clean sheet here and there. Once we get the first goal, we want the second and the third. It was a top performance by us and hopefully we continue.

Andy Mitten’s reaction from Anfield
Liverpool excellent performance rubs salt into rivals’ wounds
“I score many goals for this club. Sometimes you have bad luck. The most important thing is the team winning. We just need to focus on ourselves and the rest is not in our hands.”

The confidence with which Liverpool approached what used to be their key game of the season was exemplified by goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who beat Bruno Fernandes with a Cruyff turn on his own penalty spot in only the fourth minute.

Less than 60 seconds later United were behind as centre-forward Mane dropped deep and was given 10 yards of space to play a through-ball pass and Salah crossed for Diaz to score the 400th goal under Jurgen Klopp from close range.

Mane had a shot deflected wide before providing an even more sumptuous pass to tee up Salah to score with a confident finish.- The National

Mnangagwa Is Headmaster Of Torture

Tinashe Sambiri| The Zanu PF leader Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa will never repent.

This was said by Citizens’ Coalition For Change vice president Hon Tendai Biti following the attempt by suspected government agents to abduct Makomborero Haruzivishe.

Mpandare Speaks On AFCON Draw

National teams General Manager Wellington Mpandare believes the Warriors will eventually take part in the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) 2023 qualifiers.

Zimbabwe is currently suspended from international competitions by FIFA but CAF gave a lifeline by putting the Warriors in the Afcon draw on condition that the sanction is lifted by May 15.

The Warriors were drawn in Group K alongside Morocco, South Africa and Liberia.

Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry called for patience as her adminstration seeks to find solutions to the ZIFA-SRC impasse and Mpandare is confident the former Olympic champion will eventually ensure the Warriors take part in the qualifiers.

“We have so much faith in what the Minister said when she met the portfolio committee. She doesn’t want the athletes to miss any tournament. We have faith that there will be a solution to the impasse,” he said.

“The players are 100% positive that they will participate, CAF raised the stakes when they included us in the draw. We can’t afford to fail ourselves as a nation,” added the former Gunners official.

Asked about last night’s draw, Mpandare said: “It’s a draw that needs us to prepare very well and make sure we have all our best players available. We played South Affica recently and we were missing the bulk of our foreign based players. With Liberia, they are bad travellers but difficult to beat at their home ground.”

“Then Morroco, we just need to beat them at home in fact if we win all our home games and get a point away we good to go thru. The challenge is with our home ground. If we play our home games away then it will be difficult to go through. Otherwise it’s a fair draw,” he added.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

We Will Thrash Warriors, Declares Bafana Bafana Legend

Lucas Radebe has picked Morocco as Bafana Bafana’s most difficult opponent in the 2023 Afcon Qualifiers and believes they can have an easy go on COSAFA rivals Zimbabwe.

South Africa were drawn in Group K alongside the Warriors, Morocco and Liberia.

This is the second time Bafana and Zimbabwe will face each after the two sides clashed in the World Cup qualifiers in late 2021.

And with the former emerging victorious over the two-legged fixture, Radebe feels the Warriors will be an easy target again considering that they have a lot of players plying their trade in South Africa.

“I think Morocco is the team to beat,” he said while reacting to the draw on SuperSport TV.

The ex-Leeds United skipper added: “It’s going to be exciting they (Zimbabwe) will be looking forward (to winning the games). But I also think they will go for us and then Morocco.”

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe are banned from international football and will only participate in the qualifiers if they meet FIFA’s demands at least two weeks before the games begin.

If the ban is not lifted on time, the national side will be eliminated from the competition, leaving South Africa, Morocco and Liberia in Group K. – Soccer24 Zimbabwe

What’s To Celebrate; That Independence Replaced White Oppressors With Black Ones?

By Patrick Guramatunhu- On 18 April 2022 Zimbabweans should have been celebrating the country’s 42 years of independence. For the overwhelming majority, there was really no cause to celebrate, and many did not bother.

The penny has finally dropped that they were short changed. The fight for independence was a fight for freedom, liberty and human dignity; fight to be masters of ones’ own destiny.

The white colonial ethos was about denying the indigenous population their freedom liberty and human dignity for the sole purposed to subjugation and exploitation.

During the white colonial rule of Prime Minister Ian Smith, the late John Robertson, a renowned Zimbabwe Economist, reportedly gave Ian Smith a detailed plan to give blacks property rights including title deed for the rural peasant. The plan, if adopted, would be increased economic growth, and reduced the problem of land degradation by motivated the rural peasants to take better care of the land.

Ian Smith rejected the plan to economically empower the blacks for two reasons.
a) An economically impoverished black population was easily subjugated and exploited for the purposed of white economic prosperity than an economically empowered population.

b) It would just be a matter of time before the economically empowered black population
demand political empowerment, a meaningful say in the governance of the country.

Interestingly, John Robertson gave the same economic plan to Robert Mugabe, Prime Minister of Independent Zimbabwe. Mugabe also rejected the plan for the same reasons.
Whilst the whites had the common sense to follow some sound economic policies that allowed the national economy to thrive or be it the primary benefit of the white; Mugabe and company had no such common sense. Thus, before independence the country produced enough food to feed its own people with plenty leftover to be the breadbasket of the region, for example.

Twenty years after independence, Mugabe seized the white owned farms and gave them to his cronies; destroying the agricultural sector and with it the economy. 42 years of gross mismanagement and rampant corruption have left the country’s robust pre- independence economy in ruins.

Basic services such as education and health care have all but collapsed. 50% of the population now live in abject poverty. Life expectancy has plummeted from 68 years in 1980 to 34 years today!

On the political front, the whites denied the blacks a vote, period.

If Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies had been allowed to have their wish, they would have imposed a de jure one-party state. They too had subscribed to the “One man, one vote!” as the rallying call for blacks before independence but would have discarded it without a second thought.

Zanu PF was forced to accept a multiparty democratic Lancaster House constitution. The party had a plan B to ensure electoral victory.

Contrary to the Lancaster House agreement, not only did Zanu PF fail to send many its freedom fighters to assembly points they remained active throughout the election campaigning period. The party’s campaign message was simple enough; if the party does not win, the bush war would continue.

Of course, the people voted to end the bush war! Zanu PF used the 1983 to 1987 Gukurahundi massacre coerce it main political rivalry, PF Zapu, led by the late Dr Joshua Nkomo, to disband, sign the 1987 Unity Accord and join Zanu PF to create the de
facto one-party state.

Whilst it is true that Zimbabwe has held regular elections, unlike other one-party states like China or North Korea which have completely dispensed with such niceties as elections. However, Zimbabwe has never ever held free, fair, and credible elections. The party has reduced the electorate into powerless medieval serfs beholden to overbearing Zanu PF landlords, especially the hapless rural povo.

Lest we forget, povo have played their part in the fight to end white colonial rule. And 42 years after independence all they ever got was the removal of the white oppressors only to be replaced by the black oppressors. What is there for them to celebrate?

The primary objective of the fight for independence was to deliver freedom, justice, and human dignity for all. Zanu PF narrative has the removal of the white colonialists from power as the sole purpose to hide the party’s failure to deliver the set objectives. And to justify its own tyrannical rule,

Zanu PF has the former colonialists using the opposition to threaten the country’s independence and sovereignty.

It is unforgivable that 42 years after independence, in this day and age, millions of our people are still having to fight for such basic rights as property rights and the right to a meaningful vote.

The very fact that some people are still celebrating the removal of the white colonialists as the great achievement of the fight for independence shows the lack of ambition and imagination.

Visiting 3yr Old Boy Drowns

TJ Mathe

By A Correspondent- TJ Mathe, a three-year-old boy from Knightswood, Glasgow, drowned in rainwater in an unused pool in his grandparents’ garden on March 30.

TJ tragically died in Zimbabwe on March 30.

The Knightswood Early Years Centre pupil had travelled to the southern African country without his mum and dad on March 26 to meet his gran and grandad for the first time.

His parents Edwin and Medina Mathe were unable to go on the trip with him due to immigration constraints, so TJ flew over with his uncle.

Edwin, who works at Gartnavel Hospital, said their lives have been turned upside down by the death of their ‘precious’ little boy who has been described as ‘their world.’ He added:

Some days are better. Some are not so good. Our memories of our son are helping us through.

Medina’s cousin Tichawona Dauramanzi said the couple is heartbroken. He told the Daily Record:

They are absolutely devastated. TJ was their life. He was so precious to them.

Their whole world revolved around TJ and what’s happened has absolutely shattered them. He was their only child and they loved him dearly. We all did.

TJ’s death has shocked and saddened all of us. It’s a tragic, very sad situation.

Because of issues with Edwin and Medina’s Visas they weren’t able to travel with TJ and now they haven’t been able go over to be with their boy or to find out what exactly happened. All they know is what we have been told on the phone.

Tichawona said a post-mortem examination was carried out and TJ’s cause of death was put down as an accidental drowning.

He added that the kids were playing around an unused pool and when TJ hadn’t been seen for a little while, family members started to look for him only to find him in the pool.

Gemma Garbett, TJ’s keyworker at Knightswood Early Years Centre set up a fundraising page to help raise money to bring his body home to Scotland.

TJ’s body is to be flown home to Scotland this Wednesday after about £3 700 has been raised.

Tichawona said the family have been overwhelmed by the community’s generosity.

Elephants’ Invasion Haunts Bubi Villagers

By A Correspondent- Bubi villagers in Matabeleland North province are living in fear after a herd of elephants invaded the area.

Bubi MP Sonny Mguni (Zanu-PF) yesterday told Southern Eye that the villagers now feel unsafe due to the presence of jumbos in their area.

“There is a problem of elephants in some wards in Bubi district. In Bona (ward 21), Kenelworth (ward 19), Shimmers Plots (ward 12), Macdonald plots, Mhlotshana and Sabelweni. The elephants have left villagers counting their losses after damaging crops,” Mguni said.

“The villagers have reported that the elephants could number up to 70 or 90. The issue has now been reported to the Department of Wildlife and I understand hunters are on the ground looking for the jumbos and we hope they will capture them,” he said.

Indications are that despite the damages caused to crops and property by the jumbos, no deaths of humans have been recorded.

Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management (ZimParks) spokesperson Tinashe Farawo could not be reached for comments yesterday.

Recently, Farawo expressed concern over increases in human-wildlife conflicts.

Last June, ZimParks stated that they had recorded 30 cases of deaths of people trampled by elephants.

Farawo said elephants escape from game parks and invade human territories in search of food and water.

Next Step For Zimbabwe Should Be Eectoral Reforms

By Deborah Harry | The recent by-elections have shown us that we are still a long way from a free and fair election.

Days and weeks before the actual election itself, there were several reports of CCC supporters being attacked, intimidated, and arrested on false criminal charges. Even more tragic news was the killing of a man from CCC in Kwekwe by Zanu supporters.

Weeks after the by election, we continue to receive news of CCC campaigners being rounded up by police and arrested for campaigning. This is not right. This leopard doesn’t seem to have changed its spots.

Electoral reforms are needed. Rigging an election is an act that shows just how much a government does not care about its people’s views, preferences or needs. It is one thing that proves without a doubt that we are not a democracy.

We, the people want democracy, that is obvious; but the few men in charge and their clans are opposed to democracy the way evil is repelled by good. Since we are the only ones who want democracy, we should campaign for electoral reforms because our lives depend on this.

As people we need to all start talking about electoral reforms in a big and consistent way.

The strong CCC MPs in parliamentary will definitely raise the issue, and I think we should support them by putting light on the issue on social media and via demos around the world so that the international community can see for themselves that Zanu are doing their best to rig elections again.

Its simple. The more we talk about the need for electoral reforms especially on social media, the more likely the international community will get to know about our problems. Not only that, but we also need to expose the things that Zanu are doing right now towards rigging the election.

All the culprits involved in vote rigging should be named and shamed in public. The 2023 general election is not far away. We are all fed up of the situation in Zimbabwe.

But we can’t just keep saying we are fed up, we have to do something about it, starting with the small things like raising awareness of problems to the world and pushing for solutions.

ZACC Investigation Leaves Mazowe Communities Baffled

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission has left people of Mazowe baffled after it completed its corruption investigations on Mazowe Rural District Council (MRDC) and has never disclosed its findings but has instead handed over its report to MRDC officials.

ZACC has been investigating and arresting council officials in Mashonaland  Central province with Guruve, Muzarabani, Bindura and Mvurwi chief executive officers being dragged to court but on Mazowe nothing was actioned.

ZACC spokesperson John Makamure refused to comment directing questions to his information  department.

Residents who spoke to Bulawayo24.com suspect collusion between ZACC and MRDC officials.

We are worried with ZACC it was conducting investigations at MRDC but nothing was communicated to us we are only told that the report was left  at council how is that possible when they are supposed to deal with the council but they claim to leave them their report,” lamented Sekai Gokomere.

“We suspect the people involved in the corrupt activities at MRDC are dining with ZACC,” Rodrick Tsunga said.

However, some ZANU PF councillors in Mazowe are accusing council chairman John Mudzonga and Mazowe West legislator Kazembe Kazembe of illegally parcelling stands to ZANU PF youths who were instrumental in the provincial elections.

The disgruntled councillors told Bulawayo24.com that an urgent full council meeting has been called to address the issue.

“We are not happy very few people are benefiting hence an urgent meeting has been called this nonsense should stop,” fumed the councillors.

“Re-instate Sacked Cop Or Go To Jail”: High Court Tells Police Boss

By A Correspondent- The High Court has given police commissioner-general Godwin Matanga seven days to re-instate a sacked police officer or go to prison for 90 days for contempt of court.

Constable Sikhathazile Moyo was fired from the service following a recommendation by the ZRP board president.

She was, however, reinstated by the High Court in 2020 when Justice Clement Phiri directed her reinstatement without loss of salary and benefits.

Efforts to get her reinstated were blocked, allegedly after Matanga ignored the court order.

This prompted Moyo to return to the High Court, this time applying for Matanga to be held in contempt.

Justice David Mangota of the Harare High Court upheld her request, warning Matamga he faces prison for ignoring a court order.

“The application for contempt of court be and is hereby granted. The respondents are hereby ordered to purge their contempt by complying with paragraph four of the court order… within seven days from the date of this order,” the order granted by Justice Mangota says.

“In the event that the respondents have failed to comply with paragraph 2 above, they are hereby held in contempt of court and are hereby committed to civil imprisonment for a period of 90 days. The respondents are ordered to pay costs of suit on a punitive scale.”

ZRP staff officer human resources administration Josiah Chideme had opposed Moyo’s application. He accused Moyo of concealing information he claimed would have led to a different outcome.

Chideme said in an affidavit: “I humbly submit that this application is bad at law. The applicant has not placed sufficient and correct information before this court for it to exercise its discretion judiciously.

The applicant intends to mislead the honourable court into portraying an image that the respondents are in contempt of the court order. I therefore wish to categorically put the record straight as to what actually transpired after the court order was issued.

“After being served with the court order, the applicant was invited to come for her reinstatement. The communication was made to her station, Mukumbura, to contact her about the process of reinstatement. It was at that time that we received communication to the effect that the applicant was now a full time politician.

In actual fact, she had contested under MDC Alliance ticket during the 2018 elections whereupon she lost to Noveti Muponora of Zanu-PF. With this information and cognisance of the Constitution of Zimbabwe that states that no member of the civil service must be an office bearer of a political party, it was found undesirable and unlawful that she be reinstated. In any event, she had not disclosed this fact when she was granted the order by judge.

“I therefore conclude that the information placed by the applicant is a mere attempt to mislead the court instead of assisting the court to reach a judicious decision. It is a mere abuse of the court process.”-NewZimbabwe

Biltrans Transport Truck Driver Still Missing

By A Correspondent- The Biltrans Transport truck driver Masimba Murombo (48), who disappeared last week en route to Harare from Chirundu, is still missing and police are still investigating the matter.

Following his alleged hijacking, fellow truck drivers have come out guns blazing saying the case exposed the poor working conditions of haulage truck drivers in the country and region.

Murombo, a father of six, went missing last Friday. While his truck was recovered in Chegutu on Saturday and the copper consignment he was transporting was also recovered at a farm in the area, his whereabouts remain a mystery.

Chegutu Criminal Investigations Department is said to be still investigating the case.

According to cross-border drivers, Murombo’s case has exposed poor working conditions for those transporting copper from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zambia to South Africa.

Truck driver Steven Nyamasve blamed Biltrans Transport for neglecting its workers.

‘‘Another truck driver was arrested in DRC and placed in filthy cells for more than a month without getting assistance from his company. He was only saved by some drivers who went on strike against the company called Upman in order to force it to act and save him,” the truck driver said.

Benjamin Katemazondo alleged that Biltrans Transport does not pay its drivers well.

“The bosses there must feel the heat of exploitation, underpayment and taking drivers for granted,” he said.

Bertha Mabwe said truck drivers transported millions worth of goods, including copper, and yet they were underpaid.

Another truck driver, Tempy Maromo, said Murombo was not supposed to have travelled alone at night.

Most truck drivers, who spoke to NewsDay, said Murombo was supposed travel in a convoy with other truckers, instead of travelling alone.

The Murombo family spokesperson, Weston Murombo yesterday confirmed that although the truck and copper were recovered, their relative was still missing. ‘‘Our relative is still unaccounted for although police are still investigating the matter,” Weston said.

Mashonaland West provincial spokesperson Inspector Margaret Chitove said she was yet to get all the facts on the matter.

Attempts to get a comment from Biltrans Transport were fruitless as their number was not getting through.

Marondera Serial Killer’s Murder Cases Rise To 23

By A Correspondent- Charges against the Marondera serial rapist and killer have risen to 23 after Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda added three more counts of murder yesterday.

Bright Zhantali (30) was remanded in custody to April 29 pending indictment.

It is alleged that on July 17, 2020 at around 7pm, Zhantali approached the now-deceased female, Priscilla Chidakwa (24), who was a sex worker, and offered to pay her US$10 for the whole night.

He then lured her to Donnybrook Race Course in Mabvuku, Harare where he raped her once before strangling her. He threw her body in a trench.

Her corpse was discovered a day later by a passer-by who was walking back home from church and reported the matter to the police.

On the second count, on December 7, 2021 at around 1pm, the accused person approached Manyara Chisora of Ruwa under the guise that he was looking for a piece of land to rent.

When they went into her house to sign a lease agreement, Zhantali raped the deceased and murdered her by striking her three times with the back of an axe. He also stole her valuables.

The deceased’s daughter found the lifeless body of her mother in the bedroom. She alerted her aunt and the matter was reported to the police in Ruwa.

On the third charge, court papers stated that sometime in December 2021, Spiwe Nyamoto was at Double Jay Night Club in Mabvuku when she was approached by Zhantali, who hired her for the night.

The pair agreed to go near Mabvuku Sewerage Ponds, where he raped her and stabbed her to death. Zhantali stole some cash from her before disappearing from the scene. Her body was thrown into a sewerage pond.

Her body was discovered floating in sewage by a passer-by on December 26, 2021.

When the police went to the scene, two cellphones, which linked Zhantali to the murder, were recovered.

Mnangagwa Uses Govt Money To Win Marange Church Members

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has accorded the late Mutumwa Noah Taguta, who died this Monday, a State-assisted funeral in recognition of his contribution to the spiritual and material well-being of the nation.

In his message of condolences to the Taguta family, President Mnangagwa described Mutumwa Noah Taguta as a devout Christian and a staunch messenger of God, who transformed the Johanne Marange Apostolic Church into a strong, sub-regional movement of God’s faithfuls covering Southern, East and Central Africa.

“Such a massive movement of believers drawn from diverse nationalities and cultures required inspired leadership which only he alone could provide. We greatly admired his commitment to the Word and his exceptional leadership, through which our country Zimbabwe is now a well-known spiritual epicentre on the African Continent. I have very vivid memories of my visits to his Headquarters in Mafararikwa, in rural Marange which he transformed into a continental shrine and home to God’s faithfuls,” said President Mnangagwa.

The President noted that with very little persuasion, Mutumwa Taguta built a modern high school, which is a source of pride to the church, the community and government.

“Today children and families in the Church and beyond, accept education and have embraced modern medical practices, including vaccination programmes. Mutumwa Noah was singularly responsible for this transformation which consolidated the Church’s standing as a movement associated with the liberation of our Country.”

“Against age-old practices and set traditions, he challenged archaic outlooks to modernise the Church until it embraced secular education, modern medical practices and a better, enlightened life for the girl-child in the Church.

With very little persuasion, he built a modern High School which is a source of pride to the Church, the Community and Government.

President Mnangagwa said he also knew the late as a passionate farmer who approached government for land, which he proceeded to put to full, productive use, thus contributing to the overall effort towards national food security.

“That tradition of agricultural industry and productivity on a commercial scale, is now firmly established in the Church which is able to meet its food requirements, in addition to a marketable surplus. We applaud his leadership which went beyond the spiritual realm, to encompass the secular, thus ministering to a complete human being.”

He said Mutumwa Taguta’s leadership went beyond the spiritual realm, to encompass the secular, thus ministering to a complete human being, also describing him as a spiritual father of the nation.

“I Am Coming For You”: SA Home Affairs Minister Tells Undocumented Foreigners

By A Correspondent- South Africa’s Minister of Home Affairs Aaron Motsoaledi has launched a furious attack on undocumented foreigners, warning that he is coming for all of them.

The minister, who has taken a hardline stance on immigration, warned that he will only step down from his current role once he has locked up all undocumented foreigners in the country.

The firebrand minister also scoffed at claims of xenophobia, arguing that people from all over the world are taking advantage of South Africa’s lax immigration policies.

Speaking at an ANC regional conference in the Eastern Cape, Motsoaledi said,

“One of the things that is contemporary in SA, which is a big elephant in the room, and we are trying to run away from that elephant by keeping quiet, is the issue of immigration,” said Motsoaledi.

“Why is the ANC keeping quiet and believing [this problem] will go away? It is not going to go away.

“We must not be scared or embarrassed to mention the truth. I am in home affairs. I know what I am talking about.

“Something is going wrong in our continent, and SA is on the receiving end. When you talk, they take a big word and throw it at you, and South Africans blink and run away. There is a word called xenophobia. Every time you try to show something is wrong, ‘xenophobia’.”

Motsoaledi warned all undocumented foreigners that he has made it his mission to ensure that they are jailed if they stay in South Africa.

“When all of them are in jail, locked in, and the keys have been thrown away, then I will step down — only then.”

This comes at a time when there has been an increase in nationalist and anti-immigration sentiments in South Africa.

Some South Africans are increasingly becoming hostile to foreigners, especially Zimbabweans, accusing them of causing high unemployment among locals and committing crimes.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa presided over the celebrations, held for the first time in Bulawayo since the country’s independence from Britain in 1980.

Zimbabwe National Army spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Alphios Makotore said everyone at the Independence celebrations witnessed the accident.

“If you were there at the independence celebrations, it means you saw what happened. There is nothing for me to add. It was an accident that everybody saw. You can check with the Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) as these are their soldiers,” he said.

AFZ spokesperson Squadron Leader Donovan Muroyiwa said the injured soldier had recovered.

“The injured soldier is now well,” Muroyiwa said, but expressed ignorance on the condition of the other two soldiers who were injured during preparatory drills.-newsday

FULL TEXT: Pastor Kasi Says Every Woman Is A Gossiper

Below is the full transcript of the 4 min video of the controversial preacher Admire Kasingakore as he defended himself over allegations that he is assaulting his young wife, Ivy Kombo.

[THIS INVESTIGATION IS SPONSORED BY PHUMULANI MINNESOTA WOMEN AGAINST VIOLENCE].

The discussion was done as the two shot a live video at the Harare International Conference Centre on the 18th April 2022.

WIFE: If you just take things that you think will hurt you, if you take them in a positive way, you will see those things will end up in the right way.

HUSBAND: That’s when you will discover God’s purpose. That is the reason why, we ended up deleting the responses. Because we are not supposed to respond.

WIFE: That’s not our law (or rule)

HUSBAND: Our God said we do not respond .

WIFE: That is why we deleted it.

HUSBAND: We had actually bowed in to pressure people saying speak, speak come on, do it, speak, speak say this.

WIFE: But we are able to do that.

HUSBAND: Say this. But we are not built for that; we are not built for that. aah you would later on find out that the Bishop Generald today is not in your way.

WIFE: So we only leave it to those who can do it to continue saying and those who continue to lie, and so forth to do that, but we are not built for that. So we are really really sorry for these things, isn’t it?

HUSBAND: Yes, no, if we go to the point of stopping to respond, we are really sorry for that.

WIFE: We are sorry.

HUSBAND: At least you ended up hearing from us.

WIFE: Sorry. AAaaah sorry.

HUSBAND: And that is the reason why we took down the video, because we are not supposed, to do that in all our lives; you know it yourselves that from long ago long ago you know it well that when people ask, women do ask, if anyone is interviewed by a woman, every woman, every woman whether it be at ZBC, or anywhere else every woman looks for gossip to bring down another woman. But when that woman is interviewing a man…

WIFE: No they will be respecting, you see.

HUSBAND: Even a man who killed his wife yesterday, he will be interrogated in a big way, so, a Reverend if interviewed by male people, they are asked about today; they are interrogated in a big way.

WIFE: So right now, since I came to Zimbabwe I was given an award,

HUSBAND: Yes, No one is asking.

WIFE: I got a new album, I am working with a lot of people, I am doing a lot of things.

HUSBAND:There are many orphans that have been assisted.

WIFE: I have been in Chitungwiza, Chitungwiza guys, Chitungwiza came in numbers, you know. We have had a very progressive trip to be honest with you. And I think the devil was not happy.

HUSBAND: This is why I am saying if there was a man interviewing her, they would focus on asking all this work.

WIFRE: Aaah but Yeah right yeah, I am so smart so smart did you see me? Is it good? Is it good guys? Is it good?

HUSBAND: Thank you for your support. Please remind others we have we have 5 children together.

WIFE: Remember when everything is being said and done, we have 5 kids.

HUSBAND: 5 kids, One of them is at University imagine, imagine that at that level, someone is still asking things, when we have a child who is reaching 20 years. Have you run out of what to discuss with Reverend?

WIFE: Have we run out of issues to talk about?

HUSBAND: Can’t you ask her about all the work that she is doing up to this day? So now we know that no, so, the thing that we are saying today is love someone, just love each other.

WIFE: And just know that right now there is nothing that we are fixing, there’s nothing that we are dealing with, there is nothing we are trying to cover up, we have always been doing live videos guys, the 2 of us. So please here, please do not end up removing Copper Father here. Because me, if he is not here no, I am not complete. He is my better half. So I’m not complete. So please please guys, don’t do it again. Because it will never happen, what you want, but I know you guys, you love me.

HUSBAND: Thank you for your love.

WIFE: And you have a lot of love. I am just talking about other things; But as for you guys, I know it well.

HUSBAND: No, you, I know you. I know THE WAY IN WHICH WE LOVE EACH OTHER, that it is yayayayayaya!

WIFE: The encouragements I have received, the phone calls from America, from UK, from Zimbabwe, from Botswana, from South Africa, aaah, it’s so overwhelming guys. It’s really overwhelming. Aaah, big people calling me, in high offices in high authorities, calling me and wanting to find out if I am alright. No, I am good guys.

HUSBAND: Aaah all over all over America, UK, South Africa.

WIFE: Overwhelming support.

HUSBAND: What of Australia?

WIFE: Australia.

WIFE: Australia we won’t to forget you.

HUSBAND: What of United Kingdom?

WIFE: UK, oh my word.

HUSBAND: Or Zimbabwe?

WIFE: Zimbabwe oh yeah.

HUSBAND: All of Africa. We love you guys.

WIFE: From all over.

HUSBAND: Look at how smart mother is.

WIFE: We have always been doing live videos.

HUSBAND: So we are now entering in aren’t we?

WIFE: We are now entering the church service.

HUSBAND: We are now entering the meeting.

We just came out to love you.

Emmerson Mnangagwa Continues To Kill With Impunity

By Stephen Sarkozy Chuma

With the country marking 42 years of independence today, all we see is Black Skin, White Masks.

Murderers like @edmnangagwa, Mugabe suitcase-holder, Victor Matemadanda, the tax driver and Constantino Chiwenga, Butcher of Bhalagwe continues to kill with impunity.

“Repent and be saved!” That should be the message to @edmnangagwa by men of cloth and not to endorse his wickedness.

ED’s hands drips of innocent blood of 01 August 2018 victims! The Butcher of Bhalagwe needs redemption and not endorsement from the papas.

The night of long knives on Cde Mako MUST be condemned. On an Independence Day, @edmnangagwa’s regime once again reminded us that they are worse than Smith’s Rhodesia. Zimbabweans must do to Mnangagwa what they did to Smith.

Mwonzora Top Aide Joins CCC

As CCC Makomborero Haruzivishe and other CCC leaders campaign in Chivi North

18 April 2022

Wezhira Munya

MDC T led by Mwonzora in Masvingo province suffers a heavy blow after its provincial spokesperson Mr Mapiye Chipara joins Citizens Coalition for Change.

Yesterday the 17th of April 2022, Mr Mapiye official joined President Chamisa’s party at CCC meeting in ward 3, Chivi North

Mr Mapiye said, “I have official joined triple C led by President Chamisa not that have come for position but as an ordinary card carrying member and will support the champion President Chamisa to win state power l encourage people to vote and recruit 6 million voters as 2023 target votes for champion President Chamisa.”

Many key MDC T leaders such as Chiposi, Mhetu among others dumped Mwonzora after heavy electoral defeat on the 26th March 2022 by elections. Mwonzora got zero parliamentary seats and zero council seats. This is the worst performance of MDC T since it’s inception in 1999. Under Mwonzora the once mighty MDC T has become a laughing stock and a punching bag.

MDC T national chairperson senator Morgen Komichi summed up the status of MDC T under Mwonzora as “dead and rejected by Zimbabweans”

Mwonzora’s party died after it became Zanu PF proxy as alluded to by former Harare MDC T provincial Chairperson Mr Mhetu.

Whereas, a three months old party led by President Chamisa shocked Zimbabwe political landscape by winning 19 members of Parliament and 75 council seats. The yellow machine defeated Zanu PF that was formed in 1960s and MDC that was formed in 1999.

In welcoming Mr Chipare, the CCC Chivi North and one of Masvingo provincial leaders Mr Chidaushe said, “Mr Mapiye is welcome to CCC family. He is vibrant and we are excited.”

Yesterday, CCC national member Mr Makomborero Haruzivishe and Mr Gilbert Mutubuki Chiredzi CCC councillor were in Chivi North ward 3 campaigning, mobilising people to register to vote and meeting all CCC structures.

CCC leaders are currently stationed in rural areas as per President Chamisa’s directive. Winning rural areas guarantees President Chamisa’s state power in 2023.

Hon. Happymore “Bvondo” Chidziva who is responsible for rural recruitment and mobilisation urges all CCC members to camp and vigorously campaign in rural areas which are perceived to be Zanu PF strongholds.

During 26th March 2022, CCC increased it’s votes in many rural constituencies. It is therefore, crucial for CCC to continue campaigning rural areas for more votes in 2023.

Joana, Cecilia Case: ZRP Cop Goes Missing

The state case against the CCC activists Joana Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri’s on charges of faking their abductions in 2020, was postponed at the Harare Magistrates Court yesterday after the key State witness failed to attend court.

Ms Venenzia Muchenje, a police officer who was expected to testify, fell sick and could not attend the trial.

Prosecutor, Mr Michael Reza told the court Ms Muchenje was bedridden.

Mr Reza indicated that Ms Muchenje confirmed her condition, adding that a doctor gave her two weeks’ bed rest.

The case regards forced disappearance and kidnapping by State security agents who grieviously tortured the duo.

10 mins after the session had commenced, the magistrate gave a further remand of the case to 4th of May 2022. The reason for further remand is that the State witness, officer Muchenje who was supposed to appear on stand is nowhere to be found and this is the second time. A warrant of arrest was issued. – Agencies

CCC Says We’re Shaking Off “Sell Out” Tag By Attending National Events

The Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party says attending national events such as Monday’s Independence Day celebrations was meant to help shake off the “sellout” tag that was coined by Zanu PF to label all those in the opposition.

Binga North legislator Prince Dubeko Sibanda said opposition parties had been labelled “unpatriotic and puppets” hence the need to change approach on national institutions and events.

“New party, new approach. We are solving something by attending. Remember the tag of being foreign funded and unpatriotic,” Sibanda said.

But Zanu PF director for information Tafadzwa Mugwadi said CCC overtures would not stop the ruling party from seeing them as puppets of the West.

“They can’t undo it because sellouts and puppets have an indelible tag, a permanent tattoo on their forehead. They rejected the liberation struggle and continue to say we are not free, we are not independent and heaping praises to (Ian) Smith’s racist colonial establishment,” Mugwadi said.

“No one stops them from coming to national events because we fought for all, the puruvheyas, the auxiliaries, the back watchers, the sellouts, the puppets we fought for them all and gave them freedom.”

Political analyst Simiso Mlevu said CCC’s new approach appeared to be meant to court the military command.

“This type of politics might soften the deep State. The deep State is largely made of heroes of the liberation struggle and they are wary of the cozy relations between the opposition and the Western world. So, attending Independence Day celebrations and acknowledging land reform is embracing patriotism as defined by the deep State and it, therefore, neutralises the narrative that (CCC leader Nelson) Chamisa and his party are sellouts,” Mlevu said.

Another political analyst Gibson Nyikadzino said: “There is no elite consensus in the CCC camp as it is riddled with inconsistencies regarding the land issue. (Tendai) Biti in March said CCC will reverse the land reform and give land to whites disempowering the black beneficiaries. Chamisa on the other hand said the land reform will not be reversed. There are no common values within the party.”

In his independence speech, Chamisa said it was important for the nation to respect and honour those who contributed to the country’s liberation struggle and urged Zimbabweans to unite and develop the country as a unitary force despite political differences.

“It is not easy for us to have a liberated country where people worked hard and sacrificed their lives for us to enjoy this day. We have reclaimed our soil and as such, the soil remains ours,” Chamisa said.

On the issue of land he said: “The land that was given to the people through the land reform programme will remain ours. The programme is, therefore, irreversible. No one shall separate us from our land and we will remain united on the agreement we made as Zimbabweans to take back what is ours. Let us preserve the land and work hard to produce as a nation.” -Newsday

Mob Saves Makomborero Haruzivishe From Abduction

Tinashe Sambiri|Suspected government agents attempted to abduct Citizens’ Coalition For Change’s Makomborero Haruzivishe on Monday night.

According to CCC spokesperson, Advocate Fadzayi Mahere, members of the public rescued Mako from the abduction attempt.

Mahere wrote on Twitter:

This is the video showing the attempt to unlawfully arrest
@MakomboreroH

The unidentified men in plainclothes had a white Nissan hardbody with no plates. His left hand is badly swollen and numb after they tried to handcuff him. He was saved by members of the public

In a statement CCC blamed Zanu PF agents for the attack:

Abduction on Independence Day.

CIO abduction resisted as they had been deployed to secretly abduct Makomborero Haruzivishe disguised as an arrest.

Thanks to the public that remained resolute to defend Haruzivishe from being abducted by the state mercenaries.

Nobody deserves this in their own country or even outside their own countries of citizenship.
Ironically, this happens on Independence Day.

Mnangagwa Says Holding Independence Gig In Bulawayo A Sign Of Devolution

By Agencies | 39 years after killing over 30,000 Matebele locals, and then afterwards denying the children of survivors birth certificates, Emmerson Mnangagwa has said the holding of the national independence there is a sign of devolution.

Mnangagwa passed the comment at a time his administration has been restricting local councils from attaining autonomy and in one video blatantly told his party members that they must ensure that all service delivery is frustrated.

The hosting of the 42nd Independence Day Anniversary in Bulawayo is history, Mnangagwa said at Babourfields Stadium on Monday.

He also stressed saying ‘the hosting of commemorative festivities outside the capital city is in line with the Second Republic’s thrust of devolution and decentralisation.’

Hence this year’s Independence celebrations together with the Children’s Party were held under the theme: “Leaving no one and no place behind”.
Reflecting on this, Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Judith Ncube said Bulawayo has proved its mettle, and commended stakeholders for making it all possible.
“On behalf of Bulawayo Province, I’m impressed by the successful hosting of the national Independence celebrations. We commend the high level of commitment shown by our people in ensuring the success of this big event,” she told the state media yesterday.

https://twitter.com/Denzoo99/status/1483027756761899012?t=Y_dFOkNkAqpzKw0vIeZjqg&s=19

“Indeed, all programmes went smoothly and we thank Bulawayo for fully embracing the Independence spirit, our people did a great job, ngiyalibonga kakhulu (I thank you so much).
“This was not a small task, and, as you even saw the displays by various groups and organisations, it was all excellent. We did things together and the attendance was great. You also in the media played a huge role in raising awareness and telling the Independence story in full.” – state media additional reporting.

Zimbabwe Turns 42 And Some Have Forgotten Where We Came From

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | This year on the 18th April Zimbabweans across this beloved nation of ours were celebrating the momentous occasion.

The President ED Mnangagwa acknowledged Zimbabweans living in other countries who are also celebrating our 42nd Independence Anniversary.

For the first time the caring President appealed to those listening and watching in from our hospitals including those who are incarcerated, Zimbabwe’s thoughts and prayers are with them.

As we celebrated our independence let us not forget those who have come before us. We are here today because of their vision, commitment, sacrifice and service to our country. As Zimbabweans we must pay our respect and homage to them. Their blood watered our freedom. They paid the ultimate price. They paid with their lives.

They left the race for us to finish. Their deaths resonates with our slogan. “The country is built by its owners’ some owners provided their blood so that we can stick each brick upon brick. Building the country brick by brick.
Despite those who would want Zimbabwe to fail we have managed to pull through.

All Zimbabweans together 42 years ago in this very month we gained our independence from Great Britain when we achieved nationhood and joined the global family of nations. It has been a short but challenging journey since then as a nation.
We have come through some challenging times and we need not be reminded us of our most terrible experience fourteen years ago when this nation was brought to its knees by the recession and the sanctions.

Our young generations must not forget this dark chapter of our history. Our elected leaders both national and provincial too must always be conscious of what caused this.

It was the need for regime change and our own blood our own citizens advocated for our own demise. We are beginning to see complacency, carelessness and taking advantage of our sad reality creeping in. We are seeing people sabotaging our nation and people vote them for that.

As Zimbabweans Let us use the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of our independence to reflect on how we relate to these events to determine whether our personal responses are advancing peace and unity or greed and selfishness. Zimbabwe came through sweat and blood. Those who mock our freedom fighters must be ashamed of themselves.

There is a reason why we study history, and that is so that we do not repeat the mistakes of the past. It pains so much to see that despite our efforts we have not moved ahead as much as we would want to.
As Zimbabweans we must not shy away from the truth, it will be irresponsible of us to do so.
Our growing population is putting a lot of pressure on this country’s service delivery.

If we do not decentralize development to our provinces, we will have a big problem. To that end the President put the devolution in progress. If we allow this country to slip back into the hands of our oppressors this time the scale will be much larger, and the magnitude of what might occur will make what occurred during colonisation appear insignificant.

We cannot afford to let that happen again. This Government and every Zimbabwean will do everything in their power to prevent that from ever happening again. Zimbabwe will never be a colony again. There is more that unites than divides us.

The security and stability of this nation is of great importance.

Never again will we allow the future of this country and our children to be held at ransom by few people.

The Zimbabwe Government is committed and determined to prevent that happening again by addressing fundamental priorities which have for too long been ignored. Zimbabwe will again develop and all of us will benefit again. Our resolve is stronger than ever in this regard. Come what may, this country will persevere and prosper. There is no other option. And Zimbabwe is the only country we can call ours.

As a matter of fact, the government is fully cognizant of the fact that, the long term unity and stability of our nation will continue to be on a shaky path unless we ground it on the appreciation of our people that they are integral part of the country’s effort to develop our nation, which must be seen as fair and equitable, and that our people are actively engaged in it.
In this connection, the country is grateful to our traditional development partners and our all weather friends for standing with us during some of the challenging moments of the paths we have travelled during our 42 years as a nation.
reproach to any people.”
It is very sad to see that we as a people and country have lost our moral compass. The moral decay of our norms, values, beliefs, convictions, ideals and culture is spiraling downward at an alarming rate. It is our duty to stand for what is Zimbabwean.
The attitude of our children is becoming one of indifference and it breeds disrespect and contempt for what we hold dear as a people and country. This is a national pandemic akin to the global pandemic we are now experiencing.

If we do not act now to stop this downward spiral we will reap the consequences. We must appreciate our cultural differences and live together in harmony. Sadly, it is now common for people to use abusive words towards each other. This must stop, this has never been a part of our tradition and culture, we are better than that. We have people who are abusing our nation by saying bad things just to please those who pay them.
This attitude has been quite disappointing. We must remind ourselves that we have a duty to ensure that our attitude is one that promotes respect, tolerance, humility and love. It is sad to see people disrespecting our country by asking for the suffering of their nation.
If we do not do the right thing we are breeding a nation of social deviants who have no moral compass, or values and this is dangerous.

Our young generation who constitute our future, needs God’s wisdom and our guidance. Our young generation must learn to be responsible citizens. Parents, helping to mould our children to be responsible citizens is our first and foremost responsibility. Zimbabwe humbly call on all who are responsible for providing guidance, mentoring and leadership to our young generation to do so with the greatest of urgency.

This includes the current government and its various institutions. We must leave behind a legacy we can all be proud of – a country with a strong economy, good infrastructure and a robust service delivery system that will infuse our young generation with national consciousness and good citizenship that will promote, uphold and respect others for the greater good of all.
While our children and youth are our future. We must never allow them to be confused by those who are boys in politics. Our youth are the building blocks of this country and we must invest in them in the way that they would wish us to nurture and guide our future generation, and that includes how we leaders mentor them by the way we conduct ourselves as leaders in the exercise of our official responsibilities.
Social Media and Freedom of Expression has taken a different direction. Whilst
we appreciate its value we must also wary of its negative impacts. Social media is an important medium of communication that we must use with civilized mind.

It is a technological tool that allows people to share and receive vital information to enhance appropriate changes in life. In view of that, social media must be used with great responsibility. Not as a mode of putting your country down.
The catch words ‘freedom of expression’ must not be casually used to over shadow the importance of co-existence and cultural values. As citizens of this nation our fundamental rights and freedoms of conscience and expression are well guarded in our National Constitution.
However, we must not be egocentric and inward looking if we want to claim and demand those rights, privileges and freedoms. The Constitution is very clear that the enjoyment of the said right and freedoms by any individual does not prejudice the rights and freedoms of others or the public interest.

Here we are reminded about the virtue of taking others into consideration and affording them all due respect at all times…Social media has been used to incite division, hatred and bitterness.

Freedom of expression has been used to slander, incriminate, swear, intimidate and break down cultural norms. There is a lot of interpersonal insensitivity to say the least.

A challenging year.

This year has been one of the most challenging since we gained independence 42 years ago. About 25 months ago a virus called COVID-19 broke out in Wuhan, China. In March it was declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization. Since then it has changed the social, economic and political landscape of our country and the world. The past two years have been unprecedented times in the history of our country.
We have declared a State of Public Emergency, we also had a curfew and a lock down. We closed our borders and we embarked on a mass repatriation of our citizens and residents from abroad. Needless to say, this has put our country under a lot of strain. The circumstance have emphasized the significance of national unity and working together for the good of our country and each other.
Our economy has been hit hard by this global pandemic and the long-term outlook remains bleak.
A slowing economy and ongoing sanctions and erratic rains hurts our business, negatively impacts our farmers, and ultimately impacts our people and our communities across the country.
As a country, we have moved fast to protect our people from the risks, and we have moved quickly to design the stimulus package which will be vital to support activity to cushion the negative impact and keep our economy afloat.
This Government will work constructively to pursue priority reforms opportunities and provide a basis for sustainable long-term growth on a broader economic base. We understand the issues at play. We are closely monitoring and managing the economic situation by planning ahead while being ready to act as and when required.

Agenda of this Government
the priority of this Government is to ensure that our country maintains economic stability, remains safe and continues to progress despite the current situation. These years have been especially trying times for our country. We entered uncharted waters where our resolve was questioned and our individual and collective character put to the test not only by the global pandemic but also by our business and as usual politics. But so far we have stood tall and firm.

Our people and this country is bigger than anyone of us. Politicians come and go but our beloved nation will live on and persevere.
This country cannot move forward without your hard work, sacrifice and passion. Our children and country deserves the best out of you and nothing less.

This is a magnanimous responsibility that must not be taken lightly. Please discharge your duties with integrity and humility. “To Lead is to Serve”.
To the private sector, I understand that this is a very trying time. That fact is not lost to this Government. Your role in propping up our economy is of paramount importance. You are the engine that drives our economy and this country is indebted to your contribution.

We are one people, We are one Nation, We are Zimbabweans. Zimbabwe is the only country we can call ours.

Understanding Noncommunicable Diseases

The NCD Compact will focus on five key areas of commitment:

saving, by 2030, the lives of 50 million people from dying prematurely of NCDs by implementing the most cost-effective measures to prevent and control NCDs;
protecting 1.7 billion people living with NCDs by ensuring that they have access to the medicines and care they need during humanitarian emergencies;
integrating NCDs within primary health care and universal health coverage;
comprehensive NCD surveillance and monitoring; and
meaningfully engaging 1.7 billion people living with NCDs and mental health conditions in policy-making and programming.

Mnangagwa Aide Wreaks Havoc In Chitungwiza

By- Some residents of Chitungwiza’s Ward 7 in Zengeza East Constituency accuse ZANU PF’s candidate for the 7 May by-elections, Charamba Mlambo, of intimidating the electorate.

Mlambo, a former councillor in the area, is allegedly moving from house to house marking people’s names on the voters’ roll.

When contacted for his comment by NewsDay, Mlambo said the complaints were being made by his political rivals. He said:

What is the allegation there? Every candidate was given a voters’ roll by ZEC [Zimbabwe Electoral Commission].

The purpose was for us to know the people to target during our campaigns. It was also a way to do away with rigging allegations.

Some people are good at mobilising people who don’t vote and expect those numbers to translate into votes. So my rivals have the right to do the same.

Some are too lazy to go through the voters roll because it has about 3 400 people. It requires patience.

We are doing this in broad daylight and I wasn’t given the voters’ roll secretly.

Meanwhile, CCC candidate, Lovemore Maiko, who is a former Chitungwiza mayor accused Mlambo of vote-buying. Said Maiko:

All the candidates have the voters’ roll. However, how others use it is against the spirit and letter of a free and fair election.

We have taken steps to fumigate our ward against such electoral malpractice.

I have heard from the grapevine that he is dishing out groceries. This has always been ZANU PF’s gimmick in every election.

Chitungwiza Ward 7 fell vacant after the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T recalled Maiko from the Council on 2 March.

Bothwell Patsika is contesting the seat on an MDC Alliance ticket.

Taguta (82), who died last Sunday, will be buried at Mafararikwa in Marange Tomorrow.

The Taguta family spokesperson, Phillip Taguta, who is the late’s Taguta’s son, confirmed the development.

Our High Priest died on Sunday and will be buried at Mafararikwa Shrine tomorrow. He is survived by 25 wives and 120 children.

Taguta led the church for the past 30 years after being ordained in July 1992.

The Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution Nokuthula Matsikenyere will represent the Government at Taguta’s burial.

The Johane Marange Apostolic Church, which has the largest number of mapostori (white garment) followers in Marange, is notorious for child marriages.

Last year, a 15-year-old girl, Anna Machaya, died during childbirth at the Marange shrine in Bocha and was allegedly buried in a secret place.

The man responsible for the pregnancy, Hatirarami Momberume, coincidentally shares the same surname as the late Mutumwa Noah Taguta Momberume, though it is not known whether the two are related or not.

Zanu PF Frog Marches Bulawayo Vendors

By- Zanu PF yesterday frog-marched vendors to attend the Independence Day celebrations held at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo.

Newsday confirmed vendors along 5th Avenue, are being force-marched to the Uhuru celebrations.

“At around 7-8am buses with Zanu PF people came and forced all the vendors to board the buses and go to the stadium. Some, because of fear, boarded the buses,” a vendor said.

“We had to close our wares with plastics so that they could not get wet or stolen. Some vendors quickly rushed back home fearing the Zanu PF members would come back.”

StreetWise Informal Traders Association director Percy Mcijo said politicians should stop abusing people.

“It is a sad situation to have vendors forced to attend Independence Day celebrations. The problem is that the marketplace where those vendors are sited is illegal and Zanu PF placed them there. The Bulawayo City Council denied vendors access to that area, but it was Zanu PF that placed them illegally. Whatever the reasons, they should stop abusing people,” Mcijo said.
He said it was unfortunate that the ruling party was taking advantage of people due to the poverty prevailing in the country.
“People are doing illegal things every time not because they want to, but because of the situation in the country. Government should improve the situation in the country so that people do not suffer like this,” he added.
It has become norm that people are bussed by political parties to attend political events.
Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa was not reachable for comment on his mobile yesterday.
This was the first time since Independence in 1980 that the celebrations were held in Bulawayo. Newsday

Seven In Court Over Elvis Nyathi’s Murder

By- Seven (7) people have appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday in connection with the murder of Zimbabwean national Elvis Nyathi.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane confirmed the development to News24 on Tuesday.

She said:

We can confirm, as the National Prosecuting Authority [NPA], that a group of seven men appeared in court in relation to the murder of Elvis Nyathi.

The seven men face charges of murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and extortion.

Five Zimbabweans Perish In KZN Floods

By-The Zimbabwean embassy in South Africa has confirmed the death of five Zimbabweans in the last week’s flash floods and mudslides in South Africa’s KwaZulu Natal Province.

South African authorities say the floods have killed 443 people while 63 more people are still missing.

Search and rescue operations are currently underway in various parts of the province but officials have conceded that some bodies may never be found.

Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to South Africa, David Hamadziripi, confirmed the death of five Zimbabweans and expressed his condolences to the families of the departed. He said:

The search and rescue operations are continuing. The Consul-General, Mrs (Melody) Chaurura returned from Durban on Monday.

She had positive confirmation of five Zimbabweans who died as a result of the floods.

We await further information from the police on any other Zimbabweans who might have fallen victim to the floods.

Hamadziripi added that the embassy was in the process of identifying and notifying the victims’ next of kin.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday night declared the KwaZulu-Natal floods a national state of disaster. He said:

The significance of the port of Durban and related infrastructure for the effective operation of the country’s economy means that this disaster has implications far beyond the province of KwaZulu-Natal.

… [the declaration of the national state of disaster] is to ensure an effective response across all spheres of government to the extreme weather events and conditions that have occurred in several parts of the country.

The primary responsibility to coordinate and manage the disaster is assigned to the national sphere of government, working closely with provincial governments and municipalities.

By Showbiz Reporter | Below is a copy of the second embarrassing video of the UK based Pentecostal preacher, Admire Kasingakore after he was pressurised to explain his unusual body language with his young wife, Ivy, at a time he is responding to damning allegations of assaulting her.

Body language bho here guys?, asks Rose Mudiwa (full video at the bottom of article)

The UK based church couple has once again become the communiry talk following several reports suggesting all is not well between them.

Pastor Kasi was still to comment, when blogger Rose Mudiwa said the first 3 minutes of the below video are too clear things are not right. In the 9 minute clip, Kasi, though verbally wishing his wife, a happy birthday, is visually totally distracted in the entire duration of over 4500 frames. Throughout the period, the preacher’s eyes ‘are constantly bomdarding’ the whole premises where the two are shooting the below video at the Rainbow Towers Hotel. The visuals are traditionally indicative of a male individual who is trying to hide something.  Mudiwa, adding to other allegations made by online commentator and sociallite Evidence Chihera, wrote saying:

“Body language bho here guys? [IS EVERYTHING OKAY WITH THIS BODY LANGUAGE] I think the tension eased up in the 3rd minute.

“Musandi denhe guys I am a professional lifestyle news blogger I am naturally drawn to your videos and what you are doing with your hupenyu. Saka avoid such videos at all costs because it is my duty to inform the general public. Ndatenda hangu. ???,” she said.

What Are Noncommunicable Diseases ?

The NCD Compact will focus on five key areas of commitment:

saving, by 2030, the lives of 50 million people from dying prematurely of NCDs by implementing the most cost-effective measures to prevent and control NCDs;
protecting 1.7 billion people living with NCDs by ensuring that they have access to the medicines and care they need during humanitarian emergencies;
integrating NCDs within primary health care and universal health coverage;
comprehensive NCD surveillance and monitoring; and
meaningfully engaging 1.7 billion people living with NCDs and mental health conditions in policy-making and programming.

Malema Apologizes For South African Atrocities Against Zimbabweans

By-The Economic Freedom Fighter EFF leader, Julius Malema, has apologised to Zimbabwe for the atrocities committed by South Africans on Zimbabweans living in that country.

Malema sent his apology through a congratulatory message on Zimbabwe’s attainment of its 42nd Independence this Monday, 18 April 2022.

In a statement, EFF also asked Zimbabwe and the rest of Africa to forgive South Africa and its people for violent attacks on foreigners in SA. The statement read:

The EFF joins the people of Africa and the world in celebrating the 42nd anniversary of the independence of Zimbabwe, from the yoke of British colonialism.

Cecil Rhodes’s 1889 expedition of Africa is characterized by genocide against African people, land grabs and subjugation of Africans to wars of land dispossession and resistance.

The white colonialists were so shameless and disrespectful that they renamed African land after themselves.

The atrocities of Cecil Rhodes are imprintable, but still, the government of South Africa finds no offence in keeping this brutal colonialist’ name in a South African institute of higher learning, the so-called Rhodes University.

Statues of brutal white settlers and amongst them Cecil Rhodes are still in public spaces of South Africa, at the behest of the ruling party and its enablers, white monopoly capital.

This independence anniversary comes at a time of heightened Afrophobia that resulted in a violent and merciless killing of a gardener, Elvis Nyathi, who was accused of stealing jobs, gardening deemed a job stolen.

On this day, we call upon the people of our sister country, Zimbabwe and the rest of Africa to forgive South Africa and its people for the misdemeanours and criminality of a few, misled by the lack of uBuntu, to hate Africans in Africa.

The EFF recalls with deep sense of shock the death of Ernesto Alfabeto Nhamuave who was beaten, stabbed and set alight in an informal settlement in 2015 for selling sweets in a street that deemed such as stealing of jobs and opportunities for South Africans. To date, no one has been arrested for this gruesome act of inhumanity.

Criminality knows no nationality, in fact, the real criminality is at the doorsteps of white settlers who invaded and grabbed land and mineral resources for themselves at the exclusion of Africans.

Afrophobic violence in the democratic South African timeline spans from 1994 and reached its peak in 2008 when 62 Africans from other parts of Africa including South Africans were massacred by South Africans.

The level of self-hate and inhumanity of senseless killing of other Africans by Africans must be condemned in its entirety and unequivocally, with the contempt it deserves.

To the people of our sister country Zimbabwe, on this day, we wish you well on the anniversary of the glorious triumph of the People’s War, Hondo, against white minority settlers.

Pamberi ne hondo, Pamberi ne chimurenga!

Voting Rigging Underway In Chitungwiza Ahead Of May 7 By-Elections

Residents of Chitungwiza’s ward 7, Zengeza West, allege that the Zanu-PF candidate for May 7 by-elections, Charamba Mlambo, is intimidating the electorate by marking people on the voters roll during door-to-door campaigns.

Mlambo, a former councillor in the area, is contesting against MDC Alliance candidate Bothwell Patsika and former Chitungwiza mayor Lovemore Maiko of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).

The seat fell vacant after Maiko was recalled from Parliament on March 2 by the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T.

“Mlambo moved around on Saturday with his campaign team with a voters roll marking people’s names. Where did he get the voters’ roll from and why is he using it that way?” asked one resident who declined to be named.

Mlambo, however, told NewsDay that there was nothing amiss.

“What is the allegation there? Every candidate was given a voters roll by Zec [Zimbabwe Electoral Commission]? The purpose was for us to know the people to target during our campaigns. It was also a way to do away with rigging allegations,” he said.

“Some people are good at mobilising people who don’t vote and expect those numbers to translate into votes. So my rivals have the right to do the same. Some are too lazy to go through the voters roll because it has about 3 400 people. It requires patience. We are doing this in broad daylight and I wasn’t given the voters roll
secretly.”

But Maiko disagreed, saying the way the voters roll was being used by his rival was uncalled for.

“All the candidates have the voters roll. However, how others use it is against the spirit and letter of a free and fair election. We have taken steps to fumigate our ward against such electoral malpractice,” he said.

“I have heard from the grapevine that he is dishing out groceries. This has always been Zanu-PF’s gimmick in every election.”

Zec did not respond to NewsDay queries on the matter.

Our Moral Fibre Has Gone Down, Says Auditor General

Auditor-General Mildred Chiri says having many laws but without ethics will not improve the performance of Government officials.

Chiri said the performance contracts recently signed by Government ministers, permanent secretaries and other senior officials might stop corruption and fraud if the moral fibre of society is restored.

Speaking in Nyanga at a media workshop recently, Chiri said the performance contracts signed by senior Government officials could make the officials implement audit reports and recommendations.

Said Chiri: “What is lacking is the enforcement and implementation of audit recommendations. This is why the Public Service Commission has introduced training on work ethics. Moral fibre has gone down and it is necessary that we go back to basics.

“We can have a lot of laws but without work ethics, they will not help. Without work ethics, people will still find a way to commit crimes such as corruption and fraud.”

Chiri said current laws, which include the Public Finance and Management Act and Audit Office Act among others, are conducive for her to discharge her work but what is lacking is the enforcement of the rules.

Hundreds Of Zimbabweans Arrested At Beitbridge Border Post

South Africa’s Home Affairs officials together with police and soldiers have arrested hundreds of undocumented foreign nationals at the Beitbridge Border Post at Musina in Limpopo.

There has been a strong police presence at the port of entry since the start of the Easter weekend.

With large numbers of holidaymakers travelling to various destinations following the long Easter weekend, some undocumented foreign nationals are also trying to cross into the country illegally through the Beitbridge Border Post.

Most of the arrested people are from Zimbabwe as well as other SADC countries.

Some illegal border jumpers could be seen in the distance crossing the border and assisting others to carry their luggage into Zimbabwe through the Limpopo River.

Home Affairs Minister, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, was at the country’s busiest border post, to monitor the situation.

“From the 11th of April until today, which is the whole week, more than 700 people, who were trying to cross illegally, have been arrested and sent back.”

Minister Motsoaledi says the safety campaign, which started last week, will continue throughout this week to curb illegal crossings.

“As you can see, we have deployed here at the border,” he said.

“But, by chance, there might be some people who escape and those who are caught at two roadblocks … there’s a roadblock just when you enter Musina and there’s a roadblock 30 kilometres outside Musina next to the Baobab plaza. So, the two roadblocks will clean up whatever has, somehow by any chance, escaped here from the border.”

Meanwhile, the Border Management Authority’s Commissioner, Dr Mike Masiapato, said that the department is working tirelessly to strengthen the border management.

“The issue of the fence is one of those critical issues that we’re actually going to look at. One thing that I can confirm now is that all the infrastructure in the land borders particularly, is going to be transferred from the Department of Public Works into Border Management Authority.

“So, at that point, we’re going to start taking over this kind of responsibility in terms of maintaining all the infrastructure around and all of that. So obviously, we are still going to be engaging with the National Treasury around financing-related issues. And out of that in the longer term, we’ll be able to start rehabilitating the fence.”

Dr Masiapato says the department’s Border Management Authority will deploy 200 newly-appointed guards to the border between South Africa and Zimbabwe, to work with the members of the SANDF on a 24-hour basis to stop illegal border crossings.

Mnangagwa Pressured Over Collapsing Zim Dollar

ActionAid Zimbabwe has written to President Emmerson Mnangagwa demanding a solution to the skyrocketing food prices.

The non-governmental organisation, with branches across Africa, also wrote to all African Union members saying that increasing prices had a disproportionate impact on people living in poverty.

“The war in Ukraine seriously disrupted the food supply chain. African countries are major trading partners with Russia and Ukraine for supplies of wheat, edible oil, and fertilizer. Half of the grains distributed by the World Food Programme through its food support programmes come from Ukraine and Russia,” part of the letter dated April 15 and addressed to Mnangagwa read.

“The rising price of food has a disproportionate impact on people living in poverty, particularly women and children. The negative effects of the rising food crisis are exacerbated in humanitarian crises, such as the worsening climate-induced drought in the Horn of Africa, where over 14 million people are facing severe hunger and water shortages.”

ActionAid Zimbabwe implored Mnangagwa to address the ever-increasing food prices by, for instance, scaling up support for smallholder farmers, especially women smallholders, and also by introducing sustainable agroecological practices to farming.

ActionAid Zimbabwe advised government to desist from imposing austerity measures on its citizens.

“The government should collectively resist any pressures to impose austerity policies and cuts to public spending, which all too often are recommended by the International Monetary Fund in response to rising prices,” ActionAid Zimbabwe said.

It further implored African leaders to act collectively and be united in implementing the proposed recommendations.

FULL TEXT- LEAD President Post Independence Statement

19 April 2021

As we continue to celebrate Zimbabwe at 42, it is imperative for all Zimbabweans to nurture the culture of tolerance, peace, unity and love. Yesterday, Zimbabweans from all walks of life celebrated the independence of our beloved country.

Whilst a lot has been said about the milestones that Zimbabwe has achieved, for women it is not yet Uhuru 42 years after independence. Women still struggle to unclasp the bondages of poverty, exclusion and systematic marginalization.

It is imperative to note that the discrimination of women in Zimbabwe is systematic and well calculated. The gender imbalances & stereotyping socially, politically & economically is structural and needs 100% commitment from all women in Zimbabwe for us to be able to break all the barriers prohibiting women to reach their full potential in this highly patriarchal dominant country. Indeed it is not yet Uhuru for women participation in governance and politics.

It is not yet Uhuru for economic opportunities for the majority of women in Zimbabwe. All relevant organs of the state, CSOS, the church and society at large need to stop the cosmetic approach to dealing with issues that affect women in our country.

Firstly, we need commitment by all organs of the state to adhere to section 17 of the constitution of Zimbabwe which enshrines gender balance. Secondly, charity begins at home, how are we raising the girl child? The girl child should be encouraged to dream and live her dream without being forced to submit to men.

Parents should raise children in gender balanced homes which will nurture a culture of equality and build confidence in the girl child to accomplish her goals without feeling intimidated.

Efforts have been made to empower women through the women’s bank unfortunately the efforts are too elitist as most ordinary women don’t stand a chance to access the loans due to lack of collateral.

Unity of purpose is what is needed for women in Zimbabwe to get to a stage of a women’s revolution in our beloved country and celebrate Independence Day at equal footing with every other Zimbabwean.

LEAD is working tirelessly to give women a safe space to participate in governance and politics. We are capacitating women and building a new brand of leaders who are responsible and responsive to the needs of Zimbabwe.

LEAD is the only party that abolished the Women’s wing after realization that women are grouped into this wing/league/assembly and given an illusion of power which is virtually non existent.

One fundamental cause we have in common with the current government is the desire to strengthen our unity, enhancing national cohesion and entrenching peace within our country.

We can’t prosper if we are always antagonizing. Peace, unity and love are the cornerstones of a strong nation. The independence day theme for 2022 was very appropriate for a time like this. “Leave no one and no place behind”.

As the spirit of unity continues to gain momentum in our teapot shaped country, don’t be left behind. LEAD applauds the move by government to rotate independence day celebrations in all the ten provinces of the country.

Yesterday, President Emmerson Mnangagwa reaffirmed government’s commitment to empowering Zimbabweans and we implore the President of Zimbabwe to oversee that this commitment is upheld by all state departments and that no Zimbabwean is prejudiced of left behind because of their class in society or political affiliation. In terms of agriculture President Mnangagwa’s government should ensure that every Zimbabwean who wants to contribute meaningfully in the agricultural sector is afforded land to do so in our quest to ensure that we become a food secure nation.

It is sad that land is still being distributed in a partisan manner which continues to disenfranchise all those who want to work tirelessly to plug into the economic development agenda.

We are all Zimbabweans and we should all have equal opportunities to national resources. President Mnangagwa announced that a phased free education system will be effected from 2023.

Some years back government promised free education to all primary school students in line with the constitutional provisions of the constitution of Zimbabwe yet nothing of that sort ever happened. We pray that this announcement is sincere and that it will be implemented so that no child will be left behind.

We are all Zimbabweans before we belong to any political party. April is a month we should all reflect on the liberation struggle and how some patriotic Zimbabweans sacrificed their lives for us to be liberated. Things might not be rosy now, all successful countries once went through recession and became economic powerhouses.

Zimbabwe is about to rebirth into economic prosperity. The darkest hour is before dawn. All this shall come to pass. Stop cursing your country, start believing that together we can positively transform Zimbabwe if we tolerate each other in our diversity and work towards nation building and development.

You are the LEADER that you have been waiting for. It’s time to LEAD and ensure sustainable economic and human development in Zimbabwe.

Long live Zimbabwe! Happy Independence to all my fellow countrymen!

South Africa Moving To Shut Out Zim Migrants

South Africa’s Home Affairs minister Aaron Motsoaledi has ordered officials to revoke the cross border licence of a Zimbabwean bus company found carrying undocumented immigrants.

Motsoaledi was at Beitbridge on Easter Monday to assess the illegal immigration crisis at the end of the holiday period.

He reacted angrily when a Rimbi Travel and Tours bus was intercepted allegedly carrying illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe.

“I’m irritated because the owners of that bus think we’re clowns in South Africa. They don’t obey any law whatsoever, they were given a cross border licence by the authorities but they are misusing it,” Motsoaledi fumed.

“I’m irritated because very recently they were fined R420,000 for ferrying illegal people in South Africa and that’s the law. According to the law, they should be paying R15,000 per person but they never paid, and I’m made to understand they are allowed (on the road) yet they never paid.

“What’s worse is that the driver doesn’t have a passport. There’s no way in the world a bus driver would be allowed to cross a border without a passport.

“I’ve ordered him to be arrested because he is a habitual law breaker. That’s undermining a country, that time is over and something serious is going to happen.”

Motsoaledi claimed “the biggest problem in South Africa is people crossing the border illegally.”

Hundreds of people were arrested trying to enter South Africa illegally during the Easter break, the minister said.

Motsoaledi witnessed the burning of tyres which were seized by South African border officials as they were being transported to Zimbabwe.

“It’s not only the people, there are tyres burnt by a joint operation of immigration officials, the police and the army, because they are being smuggled into Zimbabwe,” he revealed.

“It’s not like we don’t want people to cross the border with tyres, legally they should, but the Zimbabwe government doesn’t want them to buy from South Africa but locally.”

The border management authority established six months ago had made headway in combating illegal activities at the border, he claimed.

“From Monday, April 11, to Monday the 18th of April, more than 700 people have been arrested,” the minister said.

“Dudula Empowers Gangsters”

By Ndaba Nhuku- I understand the long raised concerns by South Africans with regards to uncontrolled immigration, and inevitably fighting over resources in the country.

As in most countries, when government can not meet the needs of its local populace, politicians quickly whispers that its because of too many immigrants. Government incompetence and inefficiency and corruption are blamed on immigrants.

We have seen it globally, all over Africa, Europe, US and UK. Brexit was so toxic it was all about immigrants. South Africa is no exception and to worsen it, it is unable to control its borders.

Its a huge country surrounded by poorer nations who for decades have some of their populations especially Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, work in its mining and agricultural and construction industries.

As political and economic situations deteriorated in SADC and beyond, it was inevitable thst most people from as far as Nigeria, Somalia, DRC, Ghana etc also headed for the African economic giant.

Under Nelson Mandela, it became Rainbow democracy, the envy of many corrupt and deteriorating African States. SA failed to manage the migration. Corruption in its Hone Affairs and Border points worsened the situation.

For as little as a R100 bribe, anyone could become a citizen, even get fake IDS, or enter the country. This is what happens when civil servants in critical departments are underpaid. Consequently foreigners numbers increased with worsening political and economic situations in neighbouring countries.

The SA government, coupled by high ranking officials corruption snd incompetence, was inevitably unable to meet the needs of its restless but ever aggressive population. Many South African politicians including their current president have made toxic speeches directed at foreigners as unwanted criminals making life harder for the govt snd local populations.

Foreigners counter argue thst they helped liberate South Africa and in the process damaged their national economies. Resources in terms of houses and unemployment became major sources of tension between locals and poor black foreigners.

The white and black elites are far detached and scot-free in their expensive gated leafy suburbs. Brutal xenophobic incidents targeted the black poor foreigners in high density areas where they live with poor black locals.

Necklacing which was introduced during the liberation era as a political tool to stop liberation betrayal; the burning of someone to death with a car tyre around their neck, was transfered to xenophobia.

Recently a Zimbabwean was burned alive till he died. This is after Dudula, a growing SA outfit of youngesters whose thrust is to ensure that all black foreigners leave SA, had found him without SA documentation they demanded.

Although roundly condemned by most notable SA and foreigners, this was a high profile incident for Dudula and it seems to motivate the outfit. The group had been up and down threatening foreigners and ensuring there is no peace.

The outfit has totally ignored all other races and only targeted fellow black people especially Zimbabweans yet most Chinese and Asians illegal immigrants. It has completely ignored the fact that billions are corruptly externalised by corporates and rich individuals yet focuses on waiters, vendors and small African businesses.

The outfits anger is typically what is witnessed globally; targeting the poorest and most vulnerable immigrants. Ironically, in SA this has the support of the white community who apartheid govt, black SA and neighbouring States fought against. Impact on SA

The group is allegedly supported and funded by silent white communities. Its also allegedly supported by high ranking ANC members who are against foreigners who for obvious reasons can not go publicly about it.

ANC support is dwindling and can worsen if it seems to be supporting or protecting foreigners. This is why no robust condemnation of Dudula has come from the liberation party. ANC is cared to lose the little support it still enjoys.

Dudula has inevitable eaten into a chunk of Malema supporters who detest foreigners. Inevitable, all foreigners are walking on egg shells knowing the government doesn’t want them, and they have a violent outfit to dodge daily. They are anxious and an anxious workforce is unproductive.

Foreigners provide a huge percentage of cheap SA labour. Their restlessness affects the economy. Xenophobic incidents and Dudula outfit conduct will no doubt affect investor confidence and expertise labour force.

Without any shroud of doubt, most educated Zimbabweans are in strategic positions within the economy of SA, in the banking, insurance, brewery, estate, educational, local government and construction industries. Their sudden departure as demanded by Dudula will destroy the SA economy.

The poor ones struggle in poor townships where Dudula is giving them sleepless nights. Flight of economy and workforce is unavoidable. Many skilled workers move to more welcoming countries where their skills are in demand.

Investors start externalising their funds fearing the impact of an unsettled socio-economic environment. Dudula activities will make some individuals leave SA and return to their countries. Dudula weakens SA security agencies and empowers gangsters.

A precedent has been set. ANC has historically outsourced its liberation activities to young people as was the case with “making SA ungovernable” during the liberation struggle. The adverse effects of that outsourcing are still seen in the uncontrollable behavout of school pupils in most SA schools.

Impact on fellow African States

Without any doubt, Duduala and xenophobia mar relations between SA and other Africans. So far Nigeria has had a strong voice urging the SA govt to stop xenophobia against Nigerian citizens. SA was one of the last few nations to gain independence through support front line States, SADC neighbouring countries.

They were hit harder and sabotaged by the then well equipped SA security forces. These States are appalled when they see their citizens burned alive. SA has no excuse and SADC actions’ collective silence is only temporarily not to upset the economic giant as they watch how it will resolve the issues.

However SA is equally blaming its neighbours like Zim and Mozambique for bad political and economic management that caused huge populations to relocate and resettle in SA. SA resources are suffocated. Diplomacy in the region is stsnding on egg shells.

Noone has guts to tell the other the truth. South Africa has failed to control its borders and now relies on gangsters to do immigration and police duties. Neighbouring countries are haply their restive populations are giving then breathing space whilst far away in SA. SA investments and citizens in other Africa will soon be under threat.

Last xenophobic incidents saw Nigerians threaten SA investments in Nigeria. That can be contagious and happen a over Africa. Other govts will keep a blind eye just like SA is doing now. SA is the largest trader for nearly all countries in the region; this can now be affected easily as interborder road networks and IT communication have improved significantly obl er the last few years.

Therefore the impact of Dudula can.never be undermined or minimised. Its a force to reckon with but needs to let the immigration and police fo their mandated roles. Outsourcing such sensitive issues to gangsters leads to chaos and can be fatal as we have recently seen with the brutal murder of Zimbabwean, Elvis Sibanda.

This affects investor confidence and causes the workforce to underperform. Dudula activities will deter some people who were thinking of trekking to SA; it’s no longer worthy it, economically and politically its dangerous as immigrants are not welcome at all. Dudula’ s hidden hands of support by the elite have extinguished the once envisaged borderless SADC.

On the other hand, SA remains a dreamland for the very poor who feel they have nothing to lose and will steal hunt for its long heralded treasures in the form of untamed employment or business opportunities.

Dudula may find itself fighting an unwinnable war at the risk of forcing the ANC to act against its funders and silent supporters.

ZBC Mocks Mwonzora

By-The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, ZBC has mocked MDC-T President, Douglas Mwonzora, who recently got votes in the March 26 local government elections by calling him the leader of the country’s biggest opposition political party.

In a tweet, Tuesday ZBC, pictured Mwonzora attending the country’s 42 Uhuru celebrations in Bulawayo Monday.

Tweeted ZBC: Leader of the biggest opposition party in Zimbabwe spotted next to Linda during the just ended Independence Day celebrations. A GNU is on the cards.

SA Arrests Hundreds Of Zimbabweans Crossing Limpopo

By- South African officials have arrested hundreds of undocumented foreign nationals from Zimbabwe and other SADC countries at the Beitbridge Border Post at Musina in Limpopo.

South Africa’s Home Affairs Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi, was at the Beitbridge Border Post monitoring the situation. He said:

From the 11th of April until today, which is the whole week, more than 700 people, who were trying to cross illegally, have been arrested and sent back.
As you can see, we have deployed here at the border. But, by chance, there might be some people who escape and those who are caught at two roadblocks … there’s a roadblock just when you enter Musina and there’s a roadblock 30 kilometres outside Musina next to the Baobab plaza.
So, the two roadblocks will clean up whatever has, somehow by any chance, escaped here from the border.
Border Management Authority’s Commissioner, Mike Masiapato, said that there will ensure that the vandalised fence along the border with Zimbabwe is rehabilitated. Said Masiapato:
The issue of the fence is one of those critical issues that we’re actually going to look at.
One thing that I can confirm now is that all the infrastructure in the land borders particularly is going to be transferred from the Department of Public Works into Border Management Authority.
So, at that point, we’re going to start taking over this kind of responsibility in terms of maintaining all the infrastructure around and all of that.
So obviously, we are still going to be engaging with the National Treasury around financing-related issues.
And out of that in the longer term, we’ll be able to start rehabilitating the fence.
He said the department’s Border Management Authority will deploy 200 newly-appointed guards to the border between South Africa and Zimbabwe.
The guards will work together with the members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) on a 24-hour basis to stop illegal border crossings.

KZN Floods Displaces 40 000, Ramaphosa Declares State Of Disaster

By- President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Monday evening that cabinet had resolved to declare a national state of disaster to provide relief to KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape which had been extensively damaged by floods.

“Tonight we are a nation that is united in our grief and pain,” he said in an address to the nation.

Nearly 4,000 homes had been destroyed in KwaZulu-Natal and more than 40,000 people had been displaced by the floods.

“This is a humanitarian disaster that calls for a massive and urgent relief effort” said Ramaphosa.

This is a developing story.

Malema Apologises To Mnangagwa For Zimbabweans Murdered By South Africans

Elvis Nyathi Family Demands Justice

By- The family of Elvis Nyathi, the 43-year-old Zimbabwean who was brutally murdered by a xenophobic mob in Johannesburg’s Diepsloot in South Africa last week wants the perpetrators of the gruesome murder to be brought to justice.

Speaking at Nyathi’s funeral service held at the Brethren in Christ Church, New Lobengula on Saturday, his cousin, Mphathisi Ndlovu, said:
As the Nyathi and Ndlovu families, we are traumatised by the way Elvis died. We will try to move on but we will not forget.

No person deserves to die the way he was killed. We hope his killers would be punished.

He was a hard worker working for his family, he was a jovial person who loved peace and quiet.

Meanwhile, the Nyathi family expressed gratitude to all Zimbabweans who comforted them in their grief. Said Ndlovu:
We thank the whole of Zimbabwe for showing support, despite differences in the languages we speak, Zimbabweans showed us immense support.
They showed us that they can unite and speak one language. This is one of the occasions where I have witnessed Zimbabweans coming together for one cause. Our wish is may this unity last going forward.
At the border, we were welcomed by well-wishers who bought us food. Along the way, people were stopping us, passing their condolences.
This showed us that Elvis’ death touched the hearts of many.
We stopped in Esigodini for a small service and received donations from the people, stopped at NUST and here in Bulawayo, we saw your tremendous support.
This really touched us as a family. God will thank you on our behalf.
The late Elvis Nyathi Banajo Mbodazwe was born on 14 February 1979, at Brunapeg Hospital to parents Mfanyana Nyathi and Sipho Ndlovu.
He grew up at Tshatshe, Sewula in Kezi, and did his primary education at Sewula Primary School in Matabeleland South Province.

Nyathi’s family moved to Insuza and in 2006 he left for South Africa, where he was a gardener until his death.
In South Africa, he lived in Diesploot Extension One where he was beaten, stoned and set alight metres from his home.
Nyathi was currently building his own home in Ntabazinduna, Umguza District, Matabeleland North Province.
He leaves behind his wife Nomsa Tshuma and four children.

Kaitano Tembo Ready For Next Chapter

Zimbabwean tactician Kaitano Tembo believes he left DStv Premiership side SuperSport United a better person and a better coach.

The former Warriors defender parted ways with the Pretoria-based outfit last week after 23 years, having been a player, assistant coach and head coach.

Tembo believes the journey at Matsatsantsa might have come to an end but it’s one he is very proud of.

“I leave this organization, a better coach and a better person, and feel prepared for the next chapter in my career,” Tembo said in a statement.

“SuperSport United has been my home and family for the past 23 years and I’m very proud of the personal and professional growth the club has afforded me,” he added.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Possible Solutions

SADC and all African States reflect and deal with governance issues. Election results must be accepted and polotifal violence must be stopped. Each country must improve its economy to meets basic needs of contemporary society.

SADC must strive for being borderless.
States must nkt outsource even discreetly their duties to gangsters like Dudula and Border Gezi.
The masses must realise they are the ones of politicians, and their unity can make or destroy a govt.
SA must consider properly dealing with immigration issues and not be reactionary to placate voters.
African govts must be frank with each other and tell when things are bad; SA has been keeping Zanu in power by not telling it the truth.
The masses must not be abused for selfish gains by gangsters and politicians.
