Mbungo…

Even church members some on foot and others in cars, buses and lorries who lined up the highways to Mbungo estates on the Easter pilgrimage which kicked off today, appeared distraught as they visibly agonised over the death of fellow church members in the crash.

Some of the church members who spoke to he state media on condition of anonymity mourned the the death of their fellow congregants in the accident saying they were leaving everything in God’s hands.

Facts About Ovarian Cyst

Health Talk

With Sandra Sadziwa

Ovarian cysts are solid or fluid-filled pockets in or on your ovary.

They’re common, especially in women who are pregnant or who haven’t gone through qmenopause yet. Most of the time, they’re painless and harmless.

You might get one every month as part of your menstrual cycle and never know it. They usually go away on their own without treatment.

A cyst becomes a problem when it doesn’t go away or gets bigger. It can become painful.

There’s also the possibility of cancer, but it’s rare. The chances go up as you get older.

Ovarian Cyst Symptoms

Most ovarian cysts are small and don’t cause any problems.

When there are symptoms, you might have pressure, bloating, swelling, or pain in one side of your lower belly.

This pain may be sharp or dull, and it can come and go.

Sudden, severe belly pain

Pain with fever and throwing up

Dizziness, weakness, or feeling faint

Fast breathing

These things could mean your cyst has caused the ovary to twist.

Ovarian Cyst Causes
Most cysts are “functional.”

They’re a part of your monthly cycle.

Types of Cysts Follicle cyst.

Your ovaries usually release one egg each month. It grows inside a tiny sac called a follicle.

When th HBe egg is ready, the follicle breaks open and releases it.

If the sac doesn’t open, it causes a follicle cyst. These often go away in 1 to 3 months.

Corpus luteum cyst.

Once the egg is released, the empty follicle usually shrinks and helps get ready for the next egg.

It becomes a cyst when it closes back up and fluid collects inside. It may go away in a few weeks. But it may bleed or cause pain as it grows.

Others are nonfunctional. In some women, their ovaries make a lot of small cysts.

This condition is called polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

It can make it hard to get pregnant. Other nonfunctional cysts may be caused by cancer.

Ovarian Cyst Risk Factors

Things that may make you more likely to get ovarian cysts include:

Hormonal problems. Taking the fertility drug to help you ovulate can increase your risk of cysts.

Pregnancy

The cyst that forms during ovulation may stay on your ovary after you get pregnant and throughout your pregnancy.

Endometriosis. Cells that usually line the inside of your uterus grow outside it.

These wayward cells can attach to your ovary and cause a cyst to grow.

A severe pelvic infection. If this spreads to your ovaries, it can cause cysts there.

A previous ovarian cyst. If you’ve had at least one ovarian cyst before, you’re more likely to get others

Ovarian Cyst Complications

Some women can have unusual complications with ovarian cysts. Your doctor might pick these up during a pelvic exam, so it’s important to get regular checkups.

Ovarian torsion. If cysts grow large, they can make the ovary move and twist.

This twisting (ovarian torsion) is very painful.
Rupture.

Cysts can break open, causing severe pain and bleeding, especially if the cysts are large. Vaginal sex and other activities can make a rupture more likely.

A ruptured cyst sometimes heals on its own, but often, it’s a medical emergency.
Infected ovarian cyst. An ovarian cyst can develop in response to a pelvic infection, forming an abscess. If the abscess bursts, dangerous bacteria can spread through your body.

Ovarian Cyst Treatment

Most cysts go away on their own. Your doctor may suggest watching and waiting for changes.

Your doctor can give you medicine for pain. They might also prescribe birth control pills.

The hormones in the pills won’t make the cysts go away, but they can help prevent new ones.

Some ovarian cysts need surgery. That includes those that are large, don’t go away, or cause symptoms.

You could also need surgery if you’re near menopause, because cysts are more likely to be cancerous.

Depending on your case, the surgeon may take just the cyst or the entire ovary.

There are different types of surgery:

Laparoscopy is for smaller cysts. The doctor makes a tiny cut above or below your bellybutton.

A small tool with a camera allows your doctor to see inside, and a different tool removes the cyst or ovary. You probably won’t have to stay in hi the hospital overnight.

Laparotomy is for cysts that may be cancerous. It is done with a bigger cut in the belly.

Teacher In Trouble For Cutting Off Pupil’s Hair

A Bulawayo-based family is indignant after their four-year-old daughter’s hair was shaved off at pre-school on 18 February this year under unclear circumstances.

The family eventually took the matter to court after they failed to resolve the issue amicably with the teacher responsible.

ZBC News reported sources as saying the matter was dismissed on lack of merit. Said the ECD learner’s parent:

I contacted the teacher on the very night on a Friday, however, she did not respond. I even called her and that is when she answered and said she was busy.

I contacted the school head, who said we should sit down and discuss the issue.

All l wanted was to find out what happened to my baby and if her hair was cut the braid would still be at school.

The teacher, through her lawyer, has written to the four-year-old girl’s mother threatening to file a defamation lawsuit at the High Court.

When contacted for comment by ZBC News, the school Head, Mavis Mlilo professed ignorance over the matter. She said:

I do not know anything about that l was not there. Well, l cannot comment on that; l am just a school head. Listen, go and get answers from the parents who told you.

Britain, US Govt Secretly Coming To Ask Mnangagwa for Help, He Says

By Farai D Hove | The US and British governments are secretly coming to ask Emmerson Mnangagwa for assistance, the ZANU PF leader has said.

Mnangagwa was speaking at the disused Kadoma, Cam And Motor mine which he claims now provides employment for many, when he said, “there is no fault the Zimbabwean family has committed.”

He added while passing his allegation that the British and American governments are coming to him to assistance. He said:

CCC Exposed Zanu PF, Chamisa GNU “Lies”

By- Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has dismissed as false reports that they were negotiating for a Government of National Unity negotiations with Zanu PF.

There are reports that Chamisa is in talks with President Emmerson Mnangagwa to form a GNU.

Posting on Twitter, CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said CCC was ready to dialogue with ZANU PF on political and electoral reforms to prevent another disputed election.

She posted:
These are outright lies… President [Nelson chamisa] is not in secret talks with [President Mnangagwa] about a GNU or anything else.
We’ve publicly said we’re ready to dialogue with Zanu PF about REFORMS to avoid another disputed election. Not this.

The CCC has no interest in a GNU. We’re focused on our mass mobilization program to ensure we win a landslide victory in 2023.
We plan to win the rural vote, the youth vote & the vote of every citizen desiring change so we take power and then deliver transformation for Zimbabweans.
The report claimed Mnangagwa and Chamisa are engaged in secret talks with the aim of forming a seven-year GNU.
It also quoted a source as saying ZANU PF is being represented in the talks by its secretary for finance, Patrick Chinamasa while CCC is being represented by Gorden Moyo. A source was quoted as saying:
Preliminary talks are indeed underway and both parties appear to be eager to have an arrangement that can work.
The groundwork was actually laid down last year. There was a time when Chamisa met with some senior government officials and confided with them that he was interested in an arrangement that can postpone elections for seven years and intelligence people took that in the form of a recording to ED (Mnangagwa), who was excited about it and went on to give Chinamasa the task to lead the talks.
So, I can tell you with certainty that there have been meetings between representatives of the two leaders, but they have been held in deep secrecy.
The report quoted another source as saying the results of the 26 March by-elections shocked both sides because they ate into each other’s territories. Said the source:
The March 26 by-elections were mainly used to showcase capabilities and to test the waters. The result was shocking to both sides because they ate into each other’s territories.
There were some people in ZANU PF who actually did not want the by-elections to happen but ED insisted he wanted them because they would be useful to gauge the atmosphere and decide whether or not to proceed with elections next year.
There is general consensus in the party that these polls were a rude awakening because they did not anticipate Chamisa would be so popular. Most of the top people in the party now want the GNU.
As for Chamisa, the idea was to showcase himself as a formidable optician and the good showing in the by-elections gave him the necessary pedestal for talks.
He dearly wanted those elections to show ED that he has people and can actually win the elections next year.
The report, however, admitted that Chamisa did not confirm the alleged talks when contacted for a comment. Chamisa said:
We know for sure Zanu PF does not want elections. They are terrified by-elections.

Elvis Nyathi’s Memorial Held, His Mother Curses Dudula

By- The distraught mother of a Zimbabwean national Elvis Nyathi who was brutally murdered in South Africa last week has cursed thugs who killed her son.

Nyathi was murdered for not having a passport.

Speaking to Chronicle on Thursday night in Nkulumane 12 where mourners are gathered for the funeral, the late Nyathi’s mother Sithembile Sibanda said:

I don’t know why they killed my son. Elvis just wanted to fend for his family and was doing so legally.

Now my son is no more and I won’t even be able to see his body yet he left Zimbabwe alive. He has left behind three little kids and a wife. What did I do to deserve this?

Sibanda thanked President Emmerson Mnangagwa for according her son a State-assisted funeral. She said:

We are very grateful to the President for what he has done for us. It takes a huge load from our shoulders.

A memorial service for Nyathi was held at the Underground Hillbrow Theatre in Johannesburg, South Africa on Thursday.

Mourners condemned Operation Dudula leader Nhlanhla Lux for inciting his compatriots to turn against migrants claiming that they were taking their jobs and also involved in criminal activities.

A representative of the Julius Malema-led Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), who was wearing the party’s regalia, said a black African is not a foreigner in South Africa. He said:

The real foreigners are the whites but the likes of Nhlanhla Lux are failing to confront them, instead, they run after a mere gardener.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Mphathi Ndlovu, a cousin to the late Nyathi, said:

We are not a vengeful family but we are saddened, Elvis was a man of peace, a simple guy, leaving a simple life.

We do not believe that this was done by the generality of South Africans but it’s just an act of a single individual who must somehow be dealt with.

Nyathi (43) was dragged from his home last week on Wednesday night by a mob in Diesploot and viciously assaulted.

The group later necklaced him with an old tyre before setting it alight in the street, a few metres from his home.

Nyathi’s remains are expected to arrive in the country this Friday and will be buried at Mvutshwa Cemetery tomorrow.

A church service at Brethren in Christ Church in New Lobengula will be held before his burial.

Mnangagwa Speaks On ZCC Horror Accident

By- President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has issued a statement following the fatal accident of a bus in Chimanimani early Friday.

The accident killed 35 members of the Zion Christian Church.

Below is Mnangagwa’s full statement.

I received with a deep sense of shock and horror tragic news of a bus disaster last night in Chimanimani in which 35 souls have perished so far, with several sustaining injuries, some of them life-threatening.

That this bloody traffic accident took place on the eve of both our Easter and Independence Holidays when there is increased movement across the country, adds to my anxiety.

The dead and injured were members of the Zion Christian Church, ZCC, who looked forward to an incident-free fellowship with their brethren in commemorating the Crucifixion of Christ.

Today the Zion Christian Church, bereaved families and our Nation at large are in deep mourning. It is a very inauspicious beginning to what should have been both a solemn religious break and a joyous celebration of our National Day.

On behalf of the Government, our entire Nation and indeed on my behalf, I wish to express my deepest, heartfelt condolences to all those who have lost their beloved ones in this bus disaster, while praying for God’s healing and soothing hand over all those nursing various injuries from the accident.

To Bishop Mutendi and ZCC congregants, I tender my heartfelt sympathies, urging them to remain strong and steadfast in faith and fellowship.

In the wake of the tragic traffic mishap, I have since directed Government to declare this accident a National Disaster thus paving way for the mobilisation of resources and assistance in support of the affected families and communities.

This action places all the costs related to funerals, and to the care of the injured on the Government.

As we mourn and pray for all those who have perished in this bus disaster, let us all exercise extreme care and caution as we travel to various destinations over this festive period.

This bus disaster is bad enough for us already; we do not need to make the holiday any bloodier through sheer recklessness on our roads.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police will be out in full force to act against anyone breaking traffic rules, in the process endangering themselves and innocent road users.

Kaitano Tembo Speaks On Dismissal

Kaitano Tembo says he was left disappointed following his sacking at SuperSport United this week but has no hard feelings towards anyone at the club.

Tembo, who was with United for twenty-three years as a player and then a junior and senior coach, was fired on Tuesday following a string of poor results.

Speaking to TimesLIVE in his first interview since his sacking, the Zimbabwean gaffer said:

“As much as I am disappointed, when you look back over the years I can’t lose sight of the fact that the club looked after me very well.

“The club spent so much time on me, they have looked after me very well all these years and they have played a huge role in my life as a human being and career as a player and coach.

“I appreciate the role they played in my life and I leave a better person than I was when I arrived more than 20 years ago. There are no hard feelings towards anyone at the club.”

He added: “Obviously having been at the club for this long, it was a disappointment especially leaving the project that we started where we were using a lot of young players.

“I was very excited about the project because it was building for the future and it was for the long term. There are very good and exciting young players who we promoted and we gave them a lot of game time to help with their development.

“You can look at some of the games that we lost, we showed that there is quality in the team but when you use a lot of young players sometimes there is a lack of consistency.

“Sometimes there is a lack of leadership in certain areas but I was happy with what we had.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Burnley Sack Coach Dyche After 10 Years

Sean Dyche has been sacked as Burnley coach after spending the last ten years in charge at the club.

Dyche has been at the Turf Moor since 2012 and led the side to two promotions to the EPL. He was the league’s longest-reigning coach.

But after a string of poor results, theclub has decided to relieve him from his duties.

The Clarets have won four games this season, drawing eight and losing 14 of their 30 matches. They are sitting in the 18th place, four points from safety with eight games left to play.

Confirming Dyche’s departure, chairman Alan Pace said: “Firstly, we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Sean and his staff for their achievements at the club over the last decade.

“During his time at Turf Moor, Sean has been a credit both on and off the pitch, respected by players, staff, supporters, and the wider football community.

“However, results this season have been disappointing and, while this was an incredibly difficult decision, with eight crucial games of the campaign remaining, we feel a change is needed to give the squad the best possible chance of retaining its Premier League status.

“The process of replacing Sean has begun and further announcements will be made to supporters in due course.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

More About Ovarian Cyst

Be Objective, CCC Challenges ZEC

Tinashe Sambiri|The Citizens’ Coalition For Change says Zimbabwe Electoral Commission( ZEC) does not have the capacity to conduct free and fair polls.

ZEC is accused of working with the former revolutionary party Zanu PF to rig elections.

In a statement on Friday, CCC demanded immediate constitutional and electoral reforms.

Read full statement:

ELECTION WATCH UPDATE – 13 APRIL 2022

The Citizens’ Coalition for Change is currently seized with handling a plethora of reports on electoral malpractices and unlawful conduct by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and ZANU PF in the lead up to and during the by-elections that were held on the 26th of March 2022.

Section 155 of the Constitution requires that elections be free and fair. That same section provides that elections must be free from violence and other electoral malpractices.

Section 156 additionally requires voting methods to be simple, accurate, verifiable, secure and transparent.

In terms of this provision, ZEC has an obligation to ensure that appropriate systems and mechanisms are put in place to eliminate electoral violence, and electoral malpractices and to ensure the safekeeping of electoral materials.

Following in-depth investigations and pursuant to taking legal advice following the 26 March byelection, the CCC is of the view that the conduct of ZEC hitherto falls desperately short of the mandatory constitutional standards and there have been numerous violations of the Electoral Law.

In response to this regrettable state of affairs, the movement is exploring (and in appropriate cases has already undertaken) legal, political and civic mechanisms to engage ZEC and hold them to account to avoid a repeat of these malpractices in the landmark 2023 general election.

Our demand is that ZEC conducts itself constitutionally, professionally and in a non-partisan manner.

As highlighted consistently by our Change Champion in Chief, President Nelson Chamisa, the Electoral Reform Agenda is our topmost priority for 2022. We demand reform on 7 key issues:

  1. We demand respect for the right to vote including implementation of the diaspora vote. The right to vote must be facilitated by making voter registration accessible, simple and verifiable.
  2. We demand a credible voters’ roll.
  3. We demand security of polling material.
  4. We demand security of the vote and the voter-dispute mechanisms, polling staff must be credible and independent.
  5. We demand transitional mechanisms.
  6. We demand a credible results management system,
  7. We demand media reforms.

Finally, more work needs to be done by ZEC to ensure that the voter registration process is simplified, made more accessible and that first-time voters have smooth access to ID documents.

This is the only way that ZEC can comply with the constitutional imperative established in s155 of the Constitution that elections must be based on universal adult suffrage.

We call on all citizens to ensure that they are registered to vote so that we win Zimbabwe for change in 2023.

Banana Apologises To Chin’ono

By A Correspondent- Nathan Banana, a son of the late former President Canaan Banana, has apologised to award-winning journalist Hopewell Chin’ono for calling him a clown.

Banana had criticised Chin’ono for highlighting the dire state of cancer treatment in Zimbabwe when he gave a speech in Geneva, Switzerland recently.

He tweeted:

Kanti vele why is a cancer machine now a priority need over all other medical resources? Is it because some clown decided to make it an international concern?

There are so many other priority areas like building clinics/hospitals, upscaling pay packages & supplying Ambulances.

Chin’ono reminded Banana about how he had supported him when people made reference to his father’s sexuality and when his mother was being “persecuted” by ZANU PF. Said Chin’ono

When you were insulted on account of your dad’s sexuality, I stood with you.

When your mum was being denied her pension and persecuted by ZANU-PF, I stood with you and your family.

Today you call me a clown because I am asking the Government to save lives by buying cancer machines?

Banana, however, accused Chin’ono of lying about having supported him in any way and told him to leave his parents out of their verbal spat.

He said:

Please @daddyhope don’t make false claims about the support you never provided. You are simply making reference to those issues to try and belittle my person.

I challenge you to share references to the support you claim to have given. Leave my parents out of it they are RIP.

Responding to Twitter users who had defended Chin’ono for his remarks in Geneva, Banana said:

Why tell a story to the international community in the first place? Were there other citizens attending the same conference also telling similar stories of their countries? What is the overall aim of sharing the story?

… democracy is also allowing me to freely constructively challenge his action without having to be insulted by his worshipers.

I personally believe not every concern you have in your household should be shared with your neighbour.

Meanwhile, Banana has apologised for describing Chin’ono as a clown saying “it was out of character”. He said:

As a peace-loving patriotic citizen of Zimbabwe & advocate for African Unity, I would like to apologise for my reckless reference to ‘clown’ used in a post in response to @daddyhope.

It was out of character and does not represent who I am as someone brought up in a respectable family.

Give Us Results, President Chamisa Challenges Newly Elected MPs, Councillors

Tinashe Sambiri| Citizens’ Coalition For Change leader President Nelson Chamisa has said Zanu PF is not at all strong in rural areas.

President Chamisa, quoted by NewsDay, said CCC was determined to challenge Zanu PF dominance in rural areas.

“Now that the by-elections are over and we have made our political statement, over the next few months, we will be focusing on building our party structures across the country and building robust leadership machinery that will take us through to the 2023 elections.

We urge those who have been elected to carry out their mandates with the seriousness they deserve.

I know that while we performed well in urban areas, there are concerns over the rural areas,” President Chamisa told the publication.

He added:
“We are going to work hard over the next months to enhance our fortunes countrywide and our performance at the next elections. It is a myth that rural areas belong to ZANU PF.

We know it is a myth because we have won in various provinces with many rural constituencies before and we are going to win again.

We are committed to building a stronger and mutually enriching relationship with citizens in rural areas just as we have established a long-lasting relationship with the urban communities.”

Masvingo Magistrate Farai Gwitima acquitted Tabe and two other CCC activists who were arrested for the alleged offence.

Aleck Tabe who was facing charges of failing to notify the regulatory authority when they allegedly held a campaign meeting at Aphiri Vegetable market in January.

He was being jointly charged with Margret Chakabuda and Vigisayi Nerupandai who stood accused of co-convening the meeting.

Corruption Accused Top Cop Acquitted

By A Correspondent- Police Commissioner Erasmus Makodza was acquitted on corruption charges on Thursday.

Makodza, who was suspended as officer commanding Matabeleland North province following his arrest, was accused of helping his ex-girlfriend secure a lease for a police farm and benefitting from the transaction.

He had pleaded not guilty to charges of concealing a transaction from a principal and criminal abuse of office.

Harare regional magistrate Noel Mupeiwa said prosecutors had failed to prove that he acted contrary to his duties. There was also no evidence that he pressured his juniors into signing the joint venture agreement between the Zimbabwe Republic Police and Maonei Chapfudza, with whom he has a child.

Prosecutors alleged the corrupt deal happened in 2019 when Makodza was the top cop in Mashonaland East province.

Makodza was accused of having approached Assistant Commissioner Stephen Zengeya, who was responsible for administration in the province, and advised him that there was a private investor who wanted to lease Lendy Farm, a police property.

It was alleged that Makodza then introduced Chapfudza to Zengeya who wanted to start piggery, poultry and horticulture projects.

It was alleged that Makodza neglected to tell Zengeya that he was in a relationship with Chapfudza, and they had a child together in 2017.

Police subsequently signed a joint venture agreement with Chapfudza.

Makodza’s lawyer Tapiwa Makanza told the court that Makodza did not take part in the meetings which led to Chapfudza being granted the lease.

Bum Slapping Drunkard Hauled To Court

By A Correspondent- A drunk man who allegedly slapped a woman’s bums before groping her breasts appeared before Western Commonage court resident magistrate Shepherd Mnjanja facing indecent assault charges.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He was remanded out of custody to 19 April.

The court heard that an intoxicated Samson Dzepasi (35) caused a scene at a bus terminus at Pick n Pay Hyper when he slapped a woman on her buttocks.

When the woman turned to check who was tapping her bums, the man allegedly reached for her breasts and groped them.

The woman fumed. Not feeling ashamed, the man hit back and fired a salvo, branding her a prostitute.

The woman, the court heard, dashed to a police station and reported the matter.
Dzepasi was arrested.

To show the gravity of sexual abuse at bus ranks, recently a student activist from the University of Zimbabwe implored the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (Zupco) authorities to protect women from being abused at bus ranks because many women were reportedly sexually abused in bus queues.

Activists who spoke to B-Metro bemoaned poor enforcement of laws which protect women at bus ranks.

Acknowledge Mawere, spokesperson for Observe Our Rights Group, said they had encountered a lot of women and girls who had been abused at Zupco buses pick-up points.

“From the interviews and research we have done so far, women and girls are telling us that since there is usually a lot of pressure and a lot of people trying to get into the buses at times some men touch their private parts and other sensitive parts of their bodies,” said Mawere.

He added: “There is also an issue of conductors, drivers and monitors demanding to date young school girls to secure them a seat.”

Mawere urged Zupco officials to create a women-friendly environment in the Zupco spaces.

“It would be best if the Government can bring in more buses so as to curb this scourge because it is at Zupco ranks where some ruthless, inhuman shameless and corrupt men are opportunistically abusing women and taking advantage of young girls who are desperate to travel timeously.

Fresh Murder Charges For Serial Murderer

Bright Zhantali (left)

By A Correspondent- Suspected serial murderer and rapist, Bright Zhantali, is now facing 23 counts of murder. He appeared before a Harare magistrate on Thursday on three fresh murder charges.

He was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate, Yeukai Dzuda, who remanded him in custody.

Zhantali confirmed the statements he gave to the police, before the magistrate, about how he committed the three murders.

On the first count, prosecutors said on 17 July 2020, at around 7 pm, Zhantali approached the now-deceased Priscilla Chidhakwa (24) and lured her with an offer to pay US$10 for the night.

Zhintali told Chidhakwa that he wanted to go to his home in Mabvuku, but took her to Donnybrook Racecourse where he raped her and later killed her.

After killing his victim, Zhantali threw the body of the deceased into a trench.

The following day, an informant Marvelous Matondo, saw the deceased’s body and observed that she was tied on her neck and hands, with pieces of blankets. She reported the matter to the police.

On the second count, on 7 December 2021, at around 1 pm, Zhantali was approached by the now late Manyara Chisora (46) who was looking for a piece of land to rent.

The accused allegedly showed her the land.

As they went to her house to sign the lease documents, he raped her before he struck her three times, using the back of an axe, leading to her death.

Zhantali stole some groceries, a Huawei cellphone, blankets and some clothes and fled the scene.

At around 5 pm, Chisora’s 15-year-old daughter returned home and found her mother dead in her bedroom.

She told her aunt and they informed Cecilia Maphovire, who filed a police report.

On the third count, Zhantali allegedly raped Spiwe Nyamoto (50) before killing her and dumping her body in the Mabvuku Sewage ponds.

Byo Woman Shamed, As Hubby Busts Secret Wedding

By A Correspondent- What was supposed to be a special day for a Bulawayo woman ended in utter shame after her secret wedding with her lover was dramatically stopped at the Bulawayo Civil Court by a man who claimed to be her husband.

The embarrassing incident, which left onlookers, who were attending to their own court businesses shocked, happened on Friday last week.

Charles Ndlovu turned into a drama king when he stormed into the court moments before his estranged wife Sithembelenkosini Ncube (31) from Nketa 7 suburb exchanged vows with Dominion Mguni (35) from Barbourfields surburb.

It is reported that Ndlovu could not believe his eyes as he found his wife wearing a wedding dress while standing next to the groom.

According to a witness, Ndlovu said the wedding ceremony could not continue as Ncube was still his wife as the two were yet to divorce.

Ndlovu and Ncube got married on 25 September 2015 and are reportedly waiting for the finalisation of their divorce which is still pending at the Bulawayo High Court under case Number HC1921/ 16. Reverend Paul Bayethe Damasane, who was the presiding marriage officer on the day in question, was reportedly kept busy as guests inquired if he was aware of the outstanding issues.

Ndlovu got to know about his estranged wife’s wedding plans from one of his friends after which he rushed to court to stop the wedding.

“This woman is still my wife. We haven’t divorced.

This wedding can’t go on.

I was phoned by a friend telling me she was at the courts wedding another man, that is why I rushed here,” a visibly distraught Ndlovu reportedly said.

“He said he could not allow Sithembelenkosini to take on another man, as her husband because they were still legally married,” said a witness who chose to remain anonymous.

Ndlovu’s claim reportedly left the people who were attending the ceremony shocked.

The presiding marriage officer subsequently cancelled the wedding after Ndlovu proved that he was still married to Ncube.

The groom-to-be, who reportedly didn’t know that the bride was still married, was also left dumbfounded.

Mguni, whose wedding day turned into a nightmare, was tight-lipped when B-Metro contacted him.

“I don’t have a comment,” was all he said.

Although, Ncube could not be reached for comment, B-Metro established that the stopped wedding was supposed to be her third marriage.

Giving his side of the story Ndlovu said: “When I stopped the wedding, I didn’t act out of bitterness, but it was because Ncube was not being honest with her new partner after she lied to him that she was not married.

I got married to Ncube about six years ago and we stayed together for about two years before we went separate ways.”

He said his estranged wife was the one who was in possession of their marriage certificate.

“Before we separated, I busted her on three different occasions while cheating on me.

On the first occasion I found her talking to her lover who was complimenting her saying he was missing her ‘sweet’ kisses.

“On the second occasion she lied to me that she was going to her rural home before a friend of mine later bumped into her at a local fast-food outlet with a boyfriend and lastly, she lied to me that she was going to church while she was also going out with her boyfriend.

“I was also arrested on three separate occasions after we fought over this issue of boyfriends,” said Ndlovu as he showed a scar on his forehead which he claimed he sustained after one of Ncube’s alleged boyfriends hit him with an iron bar.

He said he later discovered that the boyfriend in question was indeed Ncube’s former husband, adding that he was now planning to sue his estranged wife for adultery.-HMetro

Education Minister Justifies University Fees Hike

By A Correspondent- Higher and Tertiary Education minister Amon Murwira has justified the widely criticised university fee hikes as necessary to promote and finance quality education in the country.

He issued a ministerial statement in the National Assembly on Tuesday on the fee hikes that have sparked protests, and resulted in the arrest of some learners.

MPs demanded a ministerial statement after university fees rose astronomically from $19 000 to $51 000 per semester.

“Maintaining 2021 tuition fees per semester would threaten the achievement of sustainable development goal (SDG) 4,” Murwira said.

“In fact, it would result in education and training institutions cutting down on essential budget lines such as internet bandwidth, e-library subscriptions, workshop practice for engineering, practical sessions for life sciences, outdoor field trips and supervision of students on attachment would be totally removed. This would be the death of the credibility of our education system.”

He added: “With regard to tertiary institutions, the fees structure that was agreed in 2020 has never changed, except for catering and practical fees that are determined by market forces. However, the student fees and other income are generally inadequate to meet all other costs because we always have to moderate them.

“This is because the income source and student fees are generally inadequate. To ensure institutions operate on a balanced budget, universities and colleges should receive more support or charge higher fees, but normally we ask for more support.”-newsday

ED Critic Booted Out Of POLAD

By A Correspondent- Presidential aspirant Peter Munyanduri has been kicked out of the Political Actors Dialogue (Polad) for criticising President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s handling of the March 26 by-elections.

Mnangagwa created Polad soon after the 2018 elections, a vehicle through which he regularly interacts with the losing presidential hopefuls.

In 2021, Mnangagwa pampered Polad principals with hefty allowances and Isuzu D-Max double-cab vehicles to buy their loyalty to the new dispensation.

But Munyanduri, who is the leader of New Innovative Modernisation Front, said his vehicle had been seized by the State for criticising Mnangagwa.

My conscience won’t allow me to keep quiet when I see something is wrong. I raised the issues of unfair electoral playing ground. I questioned the issue of rigging. There is unfair coverage of political parties. I also raised the issue of funding. Small parties do not get any funding. I was expelled for that,” Munyanduri said.

“They took the car they gave me. I do not regret my decision to advocate for free and fair election.”

But Polad head of secretariat Virginia Mabiza said Munyanduri was expelled for not attending meetings.

“Engineer Munyanduri is being untruthful. He was not expelled for raising issues to do with the election. Those are baseless accusations. He was expelled for not attending meetings. The car was given to a member of his party,” she said.-newsday

Ziyambi Ziyambi Defends PVO Bill

By A Correspondent- Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi on Tuesday told Parliament that the Private Voluntary Organisations (PVO) Amendment Bill is necessary in order to improve transparency of charities operating in the country, and to curb criminal activities by some of them that are funding political parties and candidates.

The PVO Amendment Bill is now at the Second Reading Stage in the National Assembly.

It has, however, been viewed by many including local non-governmental organisations as oppressive because its provisions will effectively eliminate civil society organisations (CSOs) involved in promoting and defending human rights in the country.

CSOs  have already red-flagged the proposed amendments saying they will render around 280 000 people jobless because the Bill gives the State powers to de-register CSOs, snoop on their operations, and also criminalise their work and proposes harsh penalties, including a closure of organisations and jail term of up to a year for breaches.

Ziyambi said although the work being done by CSOs in the country should be applauded, those who failed to abide by the law would be de-registered.

“The Bill is a very necessary measure to improve administration, accountability and transparency of charities in our country. Our country benefits very much from the work of those PVOs which operate within our borders,” Ziyambi said.

“PVOs provide support to communities in a wide range of areas and we as the government are very grateful for the work done by PVOs. They have access to resources, experience and expertise that is needed for development.  Therefore, from the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of the government, I would like to thank them for their good work.

“This Bill does not speak to those law-abiding PVOs,  but to the few  who may be tempted to use the disguise of charity to carry out undesirable, harmful and even criminal activities. For example, we  have received  communication from the  financial  national task force that some charitable trusts are being misused as a means of channelling  funds towards terrorism and other activities,” he said.

Noting that some charities have been politically partisan, and have directed money to their favoured political parties or political candidates Ziyambi said: “Partisan assistance using foreign money or money collected from the public under a charity must never be allowed to influence the outcome of national or local elections.”

The Justice minister said in many countries, such behaviour was deemed harmful.

“It is in this context that the Bill seeks to clean up the space within which the PVOs operate in.  For some time, the government has noticed that some charities have completely by-passed the PVOs Bill by forming trusts sanctioned by the High Court.

“It is still not our  intention to impose registration on this kind of private trust. However,  if it appears that any trust is using charity purposes to get foreign money not  generated by their own  activities and investments, or  is using money  collected from members of the public, then they must be investigated,” Ziyambi said.

He added that government’s wish was not to punish PVOs for assisting women and other vulnerable members of society, but was targeting those who abuse their resources, and act in a partisan manner by favouring communities on the basis of their support or expected political affiliation.-newsday

Zim National Arrested After Being Caught In Possession Of Counterfeit Documents

A Zimbabwean national was arrested on Thursday at his Hillbrow flat in Johannesburg, South Africa after he was caught in possession of counterfeit documents.

Gauteng police found the Zimbabwean while he was busy manufacturing various documents including Identity Documents, drivers’ licenses, bank cards, Sassa cards and travel documents.

Gauteng Police Commissioner Elias Mawela told reporters in South Africa that they were conducting Operation Okae Molao in the Johannesburg CBD when they received a tip-off that there was a Zimbabwean national who sells various documents from his flat.

Said Mawela:Officers went there and found this person hard at work, busy manufacturing some documents, including, COVID-19 certificates, competence certificates for firearms and so forth.

The individual [allegedly] produced almost every qualification or documentation you can think of and when police entered the building, they found him busy producing the documents on his computer. This includes matric certificates, firearm licences, driver’s licences, diplomas, travel documents, and Covid certificates.

This person has been long in the business, some of the documents date back from 2020 and this man is not operating alone, it’s a syndicate in its nature [as] people were being passed other people’s information on when they [are] leaving.

Police officers also found printers, scanners, hard drives and various equipment used to produce the illegal documents in the flat.

The man was arrested and all the documents that were found in the suspect’s house were confiscated and taken to the Hillbrow police station.

Mawela said the police will check whether the Zimbabwean has previous convictions or not.

Former ZBC News Anchors’ Marriage On The Rocks

The nine-year marriage of television personality Oscar Pambuka — who is also a self-styled prophet — is on the rocks.

His wife, Nyasha Pambuka nee Makota, has filed for divorce.

They have two children.

The summons for divorce, in H-Metro’s possession, show that the two solemnised their marriage on June 21, 2013, in terms of the Marriages Act Chapter 5:11.

In her papers, Nyasha, claims their marriage had no prospects of them getting back together.

Through her lawyer, Nyasha is applying for a decree of their divorce, an order of maintenance for her two minor children and their custody.

“The defendant (Oscar is required) to pay a monthly contribution of US$100 per child and continue paying school fees for both minor children.

“An order for custody, in favour of the applicant (Nyasha), with Oscar having access during weekends from Friday 1600hrs to Sunday 1200hrs,” reads Nyasha’s declaration.

The two have been separated for over a year.

Nyasha claims she has lost love and affection towards the journalist-cum-preacher.

The OPP boss is yet to respond to the summons.

Nyasha is pursuing the divorce for the second time after initially summoning Pambuka in 2019.

She has now made the current claim under HC 2425/22.

EXCLUSIVE- Hotplate Grillhouse Director | FULL INTERVIEW

Below is a brief interview with the Director of Hotplate Grillhouse, a popular restaurant that recently invaded the hospitality industry. The discussion follows social media accusations against its owners.

ZimEye’s Simba Chikanza (SC) speaks to company director, Mr Benson Muneri (BM)

SC: Are you not a front?

BM: Benson Muneri is a young Zimbabwean enterprenuer born in Kadoma, raised in Bulawayo and was based in South Africa for 22yrs where he worked in leading restaurants up to executive level before he decided to go home in 2019 & invest in Zimbabwe in the new dispensation.

Mr Benson Muneri

SC: How did you get money?

BM: I built up 15 stores in SA where l had access to cashflows from banks and my own fulltime jobs. Those shops generated enough cashflow for me to sustain the launch into Zimbabwe in 2019 as l also sold all those stores l was owning [so] to have enough money for the Zimbabwean rollout.

SC: Are you not connected to the Mnangagwa family?

Simba Chikanza

BM: I totally respect the First Family & l am not ashamed of that, as they share the same respect to me as a young businessman. That’s our relationship; it’s built on our work ethics and utmost respect for the President HE Mnangagwa and the office he holds.

SC: How many businesses get a Presidential nod and endorsement?

BM: Very few, Simba; so for him doing that for me l have total respect for him as a father figure. Besides that the business is not connected to the first family.

SC: What of your relationship with the popular female Twitter personality, Lynne…as accused of you, though I am still trying to make out what on earth this is meant to imply. You are accused of meeting her in South Africa at one time.

BM: I have never personally met Lynne, but she offered and agreed to be Brand Ambassador for Hotplate Grillhouse when we launched into the social media space. Hotplate Grillhouse is where it is today because of humble people like her who did not ask or expect anything in return for her services till she stepped down.

SC: Did you not connect Lynne to ZANU PF elites?

BM: Did l connect Lynne to Zanu elites? …… No, I have not done so in any way or form.

SC: Why do you dish out free meals, and what exactly is your motive for this?

BM: Motive of free meals …We are doing brand building in the process of creating social consciousness of what the youth need to do. As responsible future leaders, the power is in their hands to decide who they want so we are only creating awareness of that aspect in our actions. Above all, we are doing our bring-to bring-the-nation together and get people talking in the true spirit of one love and togetherness as one great nation.

Simba we are a Brand for the people and we represent the masses. We do what we do and do so much charity work more than any restaurant brands in Zimbabwe and we pride ourselves in what we do. The same people who attack us on public platforms come into our inbox and ask for help and we gladly assist whereever we can because we firmly believe we are a brand for the people.

We are passionate about what we do and making a difference in people’s lives and will not shy away from continuing to give away meals as we want to make a difference as a brand and do what others never thought of all in the name of love for our nation.

SC: Thank you Sir.

BM: Thank you

Mnangagwa Orders Chiefs To Force People To Vote For Zanu PF

By- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has directed chiefs in Binga to force villagers to vote for Zanu PF in the next year’s elections.

.Mnangagwa issued the directive when he was handing-over fishing rings to 21 chiefs, in Binga on Thursday.

“Last time when we came here we had elections and I want to thank you that the figures we got this time, after 22 years, show that although our candidate has not won, people have started seeing the light.
“If you unite and work closely with Zanu-PF and the Government, all your concerns will be dealt with by the leadership and your problems will be addressed.
“The MDC, CCC, or GGG, if you tell them your problems, they can’t do anything, they have no capacity.
“Today, if you have any problem and raise concern to the President, action can be taken there and there but the opposition cannot do anything,” said the President, drawing thunderous applause from the large gathering.

“As we prepare for the next general election, I appeal for your support to vote for Zanu-PF, to say ‘President, with the work you are doing here we will vote for you and support the ruling Zanu-PF party’,” said President.
“We don’t want Binga to continue being the only one left behind when the rest of the country is progressing.”

Binga North, the constituency was won by Nelson Chamisa’s CCC candidate Prince Dubeko Sibanda.

Chamisa Hints On Restructuring

By-The Nelson Chamisa led CCC said it was now focusing on building its structures ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections.

Speaking in an interview with Newsday on Wednesday, Chamisa called on the party’s newly-elected legislators and Councillors to do what they were elected for.

Said Chamisa:

Now that the by-elections are over and we have made our political statement, over the next few months, we will be focusing on building our party structures across the country and building robust leadership machinery that will take us through to the 2023 elections.

We urge those who have been elected to carry out their mandates with the seriousness they deserve.

CCC won 19 out of the 28 contested National Assembly seats, with the rest going to ZANU PF.

Chamisa admitted that the opposition has performed poorly in rural areas in recent elections but said it’s “a myth” that rural areas are ZANU PF strongholds. He said:

I know that while we performed well in urban areas, there are concerns over the rural areas.

We are going to work hard over the next months to enhance our fortunes countrywide and our performance at the next elections. It is a myth that rural areas belong to ZANU PF.

We know it is a myth because we have won in various provinces with many rural constituencies before and we are going to win again.

We are committed to building a stronger and mutually enriching relationship with citizens in rural areas just as we have established a long-lasting relationship with the urban communities.

Chamisa said it is the responsibility of every CCC member and supporter to mobilise and build the party.

ZimSec Helps GCSE Student Pass 20 A’s In One Sitting | GOOD or STUPID?

By Nigel Gwirikwiti | ZIMSEC has successfully mastered the propensity to urinate on Academia. Palpably, the academic curriculum being orchestrated by the aforesaid institution has ironically produced unprecedented intellectual parochialism. In fact , it’s a direct mockery to the bonafide citizens of the Commonwealth of Academia- the intelligentsia.

Honestly, how is it practical that a protege will write 20 exams and miraculously pass all of them with straight As? Such an eerie phenomenon was practically impossible during our time. We were the creme de la creme of Academia. Our exams were administered by Cambridge. The curriculum was systematically structured so that seven subjects at Ordinary level were more than enough. We struggled to complete the syllabus. Cambridge was as serious as a thrombosis.

It’s practically impossible for a protege to attend 20 classes . It’s no-brainer , the classes will overlap and the student will not be able to attend classes . Consequently, the exams will also overlap. Hypothetically, even if the subjects do not overlap , the fact that one passes 20 subjects with straight As clearly shows that something is seriously wrong with the standard that ZIMSEC is offering . Are these exam papers leaked?

Historically , Zimbabwe is known for producing creme de la creme of Academia. Regrettably, the world will soon not recognize ZIMSEC as a serious institution because of transparency lack thereof. Consequently, I can’t even extend my congratulations to this young fellow because I know something is “rotten in the state of Denmark “. I can’t even welcome him/ her to the Commonwealth of Academia because I question the authenticity of these results . Zimbabwe education has gone to the dogs.

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

Villagers Search For Missing Headman

A BINGA headman has gone missing after taking a three-day walk from his home in Sichutumba to Sianzyundu to visit his relatives to help resolve a social problem.

Sianzyundu and Sichutumba villagers are searching for the old man whose age could not be established.

Headman Dickson Siabwizu Mudenda from Binga South is said to have walked to and from Sianzyundu  because of serious transport challenges.

“The old man, who is a headman, decided to walk to Sianzyundu due to transport problems.  It is reported that he arrived well at Siyanzyundu.  On his way back no one knows what happened to him as he has gone missing,” a villager told Southern Eye.

“It is now the seventh day since he left Sianzyundu,” he said.

Villagers said the missing headman was supposed to have returned on April 9.

“Relatives, who lived with him, are now worried and wondering what could have happened to the headman. Mudenda is shortsighted and villagers now fear that he could have taken a wrong route resulting in him getting lost,” the villager said.

Chief Dobola yesterday told Southern Eye that he received a messages, saying the missing headman was found at Kariangwe, but he still needed to confirm whether it was true or not.

“I got a message that he has been found at Kariangwe, but I am yet to check the authenticity of the message,” chief Dobola said.

Binga is among some of the country’s most underdeveloped areas with a poor road network and serious access to water challenges despite government promises to develop the area.  This has resulted in the mushrooming of several non-governmental organisations in the district.

Simeone Attacks Manchester City Boss

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has blasted his Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola’s evaluation of his side following their Champions League quarterfinal clash.

Guardiola apparently gave a warm praise to Madrid’s performance in the second half of their 0-0 draw on Wednesday but Simeone felt the City boss was looking down at his team.

The result saw the EPL side reaching the semifinals 1-0 on aggregate.

“I don’t have to give an opinion, whether someone speaks well of us or not,” Simeone told reporters.

“A lot of the time, those people who have a large vocabulary, who are very intelligent, they show contempt in their praise.

“But although we might not have such large vocabularies we are not that stupid.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Teacher Sued For Cutting Off ECD Pupil’s Hair

Herald Columnist Agrees With President Chamisa

A Herald newspaper columnist, has written in agreeing with CCC President Nelson Chamisa on a list of latest issues.

Writing on his micro blog, Reason Wafawarowa said Chamisa is right on refusing a government of national unity with Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Wafawarova said, any talks about a GNU is a deliberate divide and rule tactic to sabotage Chamisa.

Below is his full post:

I totally agree with Nelson Chamisa on three issues he raised. Number one there is no crisis nor need other than power retention that warrants suggestions for talks about a GNU leading to the postponement of Election 2023.

Whoever is pushing for that is most likely scared of the possible election result, and such fear is very undemocratic and cannot be sympathised with in a democracy.

Being no stranger to the intricacies of Zimbabwean intelligence, I can also warn that any talks about a GNU can be a deliberate divide and rule tactic to repeat what the Senate reintroduction did to Tsvangirai’s MDC in 2005. There would be willing takers within the CCC its hoped, and that could possibly grow rifts in the rising party, and perhaps division or a split.

If that does not work maybe doing a puppet GNU with the MDC T might be considered as a good reason to postpone elections, again hoping opportunists will jump over to the MDC T for perks.

Number two, there has to be deliberate preparation for a free and fair election. This means independence of ZEC must be assuring. It means all parties must denounce and do away with polarising politics. It means violence of any nature at any level or juncture must be arrested and dealt with in a fair and unbiased manner.

It means integrity of ZEC becomes mutually indisputable across the competing parties.

It also means losers accept the election verdict as announced, or if they don’t, they express so in a legal way, not by Trump like political utterances that are not backed by statistical facts.

Thirdly I agree that only the winning party after the 2023 election can foster a Government of National Unity by bringing on board all progressive thinking and able leaders and technocrats from across the spectrum of our society, be it political, economic, diplomatic or otherwise.

Elvis Nyathi’s Mum Speaks

State Media-The mother of a Zimbabwean national Elvis Nyathi who was killed by a vigilante group in South Africa yesterday said it will be difficult to find closure following the manner her son was murdered.
Nyathi (41) was callously killed by a vigilante group in Diesploot on Wednesday night last week. They viciously beat him and later necklaced him with an old tyre before setting it alight. He was burnt beyond recognition. No arrests have been made so far.

Nyathi whose remains arrive today in the country will be laid to rest at Mvutshwa Cemetery tomorrow after a church service at Brethren in Christ Church in New Lobengula. President Mnangagwa accorded Nyathi a State-assisted funeral.

Speaking to Chronicle last night in Nkulumane 12 where mourners are gathered, the late Nyathi’s mother Ms Sithembile Sibanda yesterday said it will take her a very long time to find closure, if ever, on the tragic event.

“I don’t know why they killed my son. Elvis just wanted to fend for his family and was doing so legally. Now my son is no more and I won’t even be able to see his body yet he left Zimbabwe alive. He has left behind three little kids and a wife. What did I do to deserve this?” said a visibly distraught Ms Sibanda.

She thanked the President for the State-assisted funeral.“We are very grateful to the President for what he has done for us. It takes a huge load from our shoulders,” said Ms Sibanda.

In South Africa a moving funeral service was held at the Underground Hillbrow Theatre yesterday where speaker after speaker tore into the militant Operation Dudula leader Nhlanhla Lux, who is believed to have incited a section of South Africans to turn against migrants claiming that they were taking their jobs and also involved in criminal activities.

A representative of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) said they did not believe that a black African in South Africa was a foreigner.

“The real foreigners are the whites but the likes of Nhlanhla Lux are failing to confront them, instead they run after a mere gardener,” said the representative who was clad in EFF regalia.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Mphathi Ndlovu, a cousin to the late Nyathi, said as a family they were deeply saddened by the demise of their kin.

“We are not a vengeful family but we are saddened, Elvis was a man of peace, a simple guy, leaving a simple life. We do not believe that this was done by the generality of South Africans but it’s just an act of a single individual who must somehow be dealt with,” said Ndlovu.

Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr. Misheck Sibanda announced that the President had granted a State-assisted funeral to Nyathi.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said Nyathi’s killing was worse than what the apartheid regime did, describing it as immoral, racist, and criminal.

He said South Africa should be home to everyone as enshrined in the Freedom Charter in 1955, whose principles were incorporated in the South African constitution which declared that South Africa belongs to all who live in it as it sought to create a society free from ethnic chauvinism, tribalism, racism, and sexism.

Meanwhile, the Council for Churches in Africa (CCA) welcomed Government’s decision to accord Nyathi a State-assisted funeral.

It said President Mnangagwa’s decision was a true definition of contemporary leadership that Africa needs and a signal of caring Governments.

In a statement, CCA said the assistance has come as a relief to the families, relatives, friends, and other authorities who had faced difficulties in the repatriation of the late Nyathi’s remains.

“As indigenous churches’ representative body in the African continent, we urge all our affiliate churches and partners to assist the Governments from which we operate, so that their duties and services to the citizens will be realised.

Zimbabwean Government set a good example by extending such a gesture during this period when the bereaved need assistance,” said the CCA.

The continental churches’ organisation condemned the attack on fellow African brothers and sisters which is against the principles and values of Ubuntu which indigenous churches have advocated since time immemorial.

“Africa needs to unite in the same spirit that churches endeavor to bridge the gaps of divisions, and as CCA’s department of Regional Justice, Peace and Conflict Resolution Affairs, we will strive to use the resources that we have in making sure that peace will become a reality in some sections rather than rhetoric.

“ We also seek to remove the narratives which seek to divide our indigenous churches in preaching peace. Hate speech and violence remain the major problems in Africa and as churches, we will strive to preach peace and craft initiatives that seek to unite than divide,” said CCA.- Chronicle

From R*pist To Pastor

A Rusape man, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison for having sexual relations with a minor, has started a church while serving his sentence at Harare Central Prison.

Robson Bonde (32), told H-Metro that his imprisonment opened a way for him to repent and transform his life for the better.

Bonde, who was convicted five years ago, said he has since acquired a certificate in Theology and a Class 3 carpentry certificate while in prison. He said:

I started my own church here called ‘New Word of God Apostolic Church’ and I have quite a number of followers. I hope when I get out I will be able to continue with the ministry.

In this prison I believe I have gained more than I lost, I became a Christian in this place and even studied theology, now I am a pastor.

Bonde is one of the inmates who have benefitted from the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service education programme. He added:

When I was in Rusape, my hometown, I was uneducated, so here I studied my Grade One to Seven, and I began my carpentry course.

I passed three subjects – joinery, cabinet making and carpentry – and I got my carpentry Class 3 certificate. I am proud of myself.

I know that when I go back home I have somewhere to start my life, which will be better than before my conviction.

Bonde was arrested after the parents of the minor girl that he was dating discovered the affair and reported him to the police.- H-Metro

Cop Ex-Lover Scandal Cleared

Commissioner, Erasmus Makodza was today acquitted of charges of concealing a transaction from a principal after the court noted that he did not participate in the joint venture agreement entered between the police and his former lover, Maonei Chapfudza, to undertake farming activities at its farm in Mashonaland East province during the time he was in charge of the province.

Erasmus Makodza

Harare magistrate Mr Noel Mupeiwa cleared Comm Makodza after a full trial.

In his judgment, Mr Mupeiwa noted that the State failed to prove that Comm Makodza acted contrary to his duties during the time his ex-lover was allowed to undertake projects at the police farm during the time he was the police officer commanding Mashonaland East province.

The court said that the State failed to prove that Comm Makodza benefitted from the proceeds of farming activities that were being undertaken by his former lover at the police farm.

Mnangagwa To Force People To Use Zim Dollar

Emmerson Mnangagwa has warned industrialists against wanton price increases, indicating that his Government is currently drafting a raft of measures that will promote the use of the local currency over the US dollar.

Zimdollar_new bundle – file copy

Addressing thousands of Zanu PF supporters in Muzvezve constituency yesterday, President Mnangagwa said the country’s currency has been under sustained attacks from Western countries since they imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe at the turn of the millennium, a situation that led to the adoption of multiple currencies after the Zimbabwe dollar had lost value.

Rent-seeking behaviour among businesses and market speculation has had the resultant effect of pushing prices up, well above the means of the majority.

However, with a new world order emerging in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine conflict that could result in the international adoption of another currency besides the greenback, this is a promising prospect for countries like Zimbabwe which have been at the mercy of powerful Western nations and manipulative businesses.

Buoyed by developments in international markets, President Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe is now set to use it’s local currency as the major medium of trade.

On the issue of price increases, we used to have our own dollar. When we were sanctioned, our country’s currency was attacked by Western countries who have powers in terms of controlling money.

“The money lost it’s value and we adopted the US dollar which we have since left behind. Now they (the Western world) have met their match in (Russian President Vladimir) Putin who is demanding payments for gas and oil in (the Russian currency) roubles instead of the US dollar that has governed global trade for the past 60 years,” he said.

“Russia is a big country whose economy affects the world economy, there is now a new world order that includes Russia and China.”

Zimbabwe, President Mnangagwa said, will soon make it mandatory for businesses to trade in local currency as opposed to the US dollar.

“We are saying to our industrialists such as Innscor, that any investor who comes into the country should buy whatever he wants in Zimbabwe dollars.

“We are putting measures to make sure that we deal once and for all with companies that are manipulating the local currency.

“We also have locals who are indiscriminately raising prices, punishing the people but we are going to put measures that will ensure that our currency will be sought after and that the US dollar doesn’t dominate.”

The President, who was accompanied by his deputy Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, Cabinet Ministers and senior Government officials, said food security is key to peace and security, hence his Government came up with policies to climate-proof Agriculture so as to ensure bountiful harvests regardless of changing rainfall patterns caused by climate change.

Speaking to communities around Rio-Zim in Kadoma, President Mnangagwa said his Government has heard their concerns and has engaged the mining giant to take measures that will improve the lives and livelihoods of communities affected by their activities.

“We heard your concerns that there is blasting that is disturbing the people around the mine, and that some houses have since developed cracks.

“I asked the mine owners why they are employing people from outside, and I ordered them to make sure that any job that arises from now onwards should benefit the people here. I also told them to have a meeting with the leadership and engage them.

“The Zanu PF leadership should lay out their demands and those challenges should be addressed.

“I told them to build new homes for the affected families, especially for those close to areas where blasting is taking place. They also promised to drill boreholes and ensure that every family has access to water.

“I will be coming back here twice a year to monitor what they are doing. We want development but that development should not adversely affect communities,” he said.

With today being Good Friday, President Mnangagwa called for safety on the roads, peace and the observance of Covid-19 protocols notwithstanding the lifting of a ban on public gatherings. -Herald

Madzibaba Speaks On Pilot Death Scandal

Own Correspondent

Madzibaba Maikoro from Harare is accusing Mai Titi of breaking Isaac Makomichi’s love charm rules leading to the death of the pilot.

The pilot died a day after the flamboyant wedding.

Madzibaba Maikoro claimed the Holy Spirit told him that Makomichi gave love charms to Mai Titi but she was told to observe some rules.

“Mweya akandiudza kuti Mai Titi vakapuwa love potion naMakomichi, vakanzi uchaita muchato muhombesa asi usataura naEx wako pazuva remuchato nekuti mhiko inofumuka pakafiwa.

Facts About Air Quality

Almost the entire global population (99%) breathes air that exceeds WHO air quality limits, and threatens their health.

A record number of over 6000 cities in 117 countries are now monitoring air quality, but the people living in them are still breathing unhealthy levels of fine particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide, with people in low and middle-income countries suffering the highest exposures.

The findings have prompted the World Health Organization to highlight the importance of curbing fossil fuel use and taking other tangible steps to reduce air pollution levels.

Released in the lead-up to World Health Day, which this year celebrates the theme Our planet, our health, the 2022 update of the World Health Organization’s air quality database introduces, for the first time, ground measurements of annual mean concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO2), a common urban pollutant and precursor of particulate matter and ozone. It also includes measurements of particulate matter with diameters equal or smaller than 10 μm (PM10) or 2.5 μm (PM2.5).

Both groups of pollutants originate mainly from human activities related to fossil fuel combustion.

The new air quality database is the most extensive yet in its coverage of air pollution exposure on the ground.

Some 2,000 more cities/human settlements are now recording ground monitoring data for particulate matter – PM10 and/or PM2.5 – than the last update. This marks an almost 6-fold rise in reporting since the database was launched in 2011.

Meanwhile, the evidence base for the damage air pollution does to the human body has been growing rapidly and points to significant harm caused by even low levels of many air pollutants.

Particulate matter, especially PM2.5, is capable of penetrating deep into the lungs and entering the bloodstream, causing cardiovascular, cerebrovascular (stroke) and respiratory impacts.

There is emerging evidence that particulate matter impacts other organs and causes other diseases as well.

NO2 is associated with respiratory diseases, particularly asthma, leading to respiratory symptoms (such as coughing, wheezing or difficulty breathing), hospital admissions and visits to emergency rooms

WHO last year revised its Air Quality Guidelines, making them more stringent in an effort to help countries better evaluate the healthiness of their own air.

“Current energy concerns highlight the importance of speeding up the transition to cleaner, healthier energy systems,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “High fossil fuel prices, energy security, and the urgency of addressing the twin health challenges of air pollution and climate change, underscore the pressing need to move faster towards a world that is much less dependent on fossil fuels.”

Steps governments can take to improve air quality and health
A number of governments are taking steps to improve air quality, but WHO is calling for a rapid intensification of actions to:

adopt or revise and implement national air quality standards according to the latest

WHO Air Quality Guidelines;
monitor air quality and identify sources of air pollution;
support the transition to exclusive use of clean household energy for cooking, heating and lighting;
build safe and affordable public transport systems and pedestrian- and cycle-friendly networks;
implement stricter vehicle emissions and efficiency standards; and enforce mandatory inspection and maintenance for vehicles;
invest in energy-efficient housing and power generation;
improve industry and municipal waste management;
reduce agricultural waste incineration, forest fires and certain agro-forestry activities (e.g. charcoal production); and
include air pollution in curricula for health professionals and providing tools for the health sector to engage.

WHO’s Air Quality Guidelines

The evidence base for the harm caused by air pollution has been growing rapidly and points to significant harm caused by even low levels of many air pollutants. Last year, the WHO responded by revising its Air Quality Guidelines to reflect the evidence, making them more stringent, especially for PM and NO2, a move strongly supported by the health community, medical associations and patient organizations.

The 2022 database aims to monitor the state of the world’s air and feeds into progress tracking of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Police Block ZAPU March

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has blocked ZAPU from marching to Munhumutapa government offices in Harare in protest over the brutal murder of Zimbabwean national, Elvis Nyathi, in South Africa last week.

The Munhumutapa Building also houses President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s offices.

ZAPU wrote a letter to the Officer Commanding Harare on Monday, notifying them of the planned demonstration.

ZAPU Secretary-General Mthulisi Hanana told CITE that one of the reasons cited by the police in banning the planned protest at the Munhumutapa Building was that the march would endanger national security. Said Hanana:

The following are the grounds for the rejection. One, the police said our application does not meet the seven-day notice.

Two, police said Munhumutapa Building is a very sensitive and highly protected place to entertain such a demonstration.

Three, police said demonstrations within the CBD area are banned until further notice.

As a party, we are going to be finding means to protest against the direction the country is taking under ZANU, we cannot be misruled comfortably.

This march has been viewed as a threat to national security. We will amend and fight on.

ZAPU blames the ZANU PF-led Government for the economic challenges that have forced millions of Zimbabweans to leave the country over the years.- CITE

Chamisa Restructures

Marry Mubaiwa Fined ZWL$60 000 For Marriage Fraud

VICE President Constantino Chiwenga’s estranged wife, Marry Mubaiwa has been slapped with a ZWL$60 000 fine or six months imprisonment for contravening the Marriage Act.

This comes after the former second lady was found guilty of marriage fraud.

Marry attempted to solemnise her marriage to Chiwenga without his consent while he was hospitalised in India.

12 months were wholly suspended on condition of good behaviour.

In handing down the sentence Harare Magistrate Lazini Ncube said her ill health did not allow her to go to jail nor do community service and deserves a second chance as a first time offender.

He said: “The accused is not in good healthy as she is always seen with an aid. The accused is a first offender. The accused will not cause harm to society. She deserves a second chance.

“Community service for her won’t work because of her health.”

ZEC Threatens Civic Groups, Opposition Parties

Civil society organisations and political parties must not give incentives for people to register as voters since that might entice those already on the voters roll to register multiple times resulting in a superficial false impression of the actual numbers, a senior official has said.

Presenting a paper titled, “Zimbabwe’s Electoral Challenges: Electoral Reforms, and 2023 Election Preparations”, to participants of the National Defence Course at the National Defence University in Harare yesterday, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission chairperson, Justice Priscilla Chigumba, said double registration had cost implications for the commission while also giving a false impression on the actual numbers on the voters roll.

“Civil society organisations and political parties were and are still being advised to desist from giving voter registration incentives as this may entice those already on the voters roll to register multiple times. Although multiple registrations are eventually picked up by the automated fingerprint identification system, the practice gives an outward false impression of the actual numbers registered and has some cost implications on the commission.”

Those intending to transfer from one voting station to another should inform the voter registration officer of their intention rather than register as new registrants. This is done when people move and need to transfer their registration to a new constituency and ward.

Justice Chigumba said ZEC was mandated to carry out its constitutional obligations without fear or favour contrary to claims from some civil society organisations and political parties that it was partisan.

“The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has a special place in our electoral democracy with its mandate to run the country’s elections. As a public institution, we are ready to dispense our duty without fear or favour,” she said.

Justice Chigumba said ZEC will welcome changes to the legal framework if they are progressive and as a result of a consultative process and are done within a reasonable time-frame to allow for implementation.

“As a commission, we believe in continuous improvement through capacity building and continuous stakeholder engagement. We have also submitted a number of proposals which seek to amend the law in various aspects and aimed at improving the electoral process in general. These details will be shared with you and other stakeholders at the opportune time,” she said.

You Are Welcome To Join CCC, Chamisa Tells Khupe

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has said former MDC-T leader Thokozani Khupe is free to join the party.

“You can’t stop someone who has come and said they want to be part of CCC. After all, this is a citizen initiative, this belongs to the people, we are working to change the nation for the better, not for CCC, but everyone, so even those in Zanu-PF who want to see change are welcome,” Chamisa said.

Speaking to NewsDay, days after addressing an internal party meeting in Bulawayo attended by Khupe, the opposition leader tried to calm supporters who were jittery over MDC members such as Khupe joining CCC.

Khupe, who was at the centre of decimating the MDC Alliance after recalling Chamisa’s parliamentarians and grabbing assets and funding from the party before being elbowed out by Douglas Mwonzora, has pledged allegiance to Chamisa, but CCC members view her with suspicion.

Wary of the threat posed by those who might be seeking to destroy CCC from within, Chamisa, said while everyone was free to be a member, the party would also define its membership and protect itself.

“Obviously, we will define our membership, we will protect from those who might want to harm the party, but its critical for everyone to understand that we are not about positions, but delivering change that will benefit not only us, but generations to come, this country needs a break, it needs new leadership and a breath of fresh air, this is our focus and not positions,” Chamisa said.

Chamisa said citizens were the guardians and vanguard of the party with the mandate to put people in leadership positions.

Commenting on the recent by-elections, Chamisa said: “Now that the by-elections are over and we have made our political statement, over the next few months, we will be focusing on building our party structures across the country and building a robust leadership machinery that will take us through to the 2023 elections. We urge those who have been elected to carry out their mandates with the seriousness they deserve.”

The CCC leader said it was a misconception that the opposition would traditionally fail to do well in rural areas.

“I know that while we performed well in urban areas, there are concerns over the rural areas. We are going to work hard over the next months to enhance our fortunes countrywide and our performance at the next elections. It is a myth that rural areas belong to Zanu-PF,” Chamisa added.

“We know it is a myth because we have won in various provinces with many rural constituencies before and we are going to win again. We are committed to building a stronger and mutually enriching relationship with citizens in rural areas just as we have established a long-lasting relationship with the urban communities.”

The opposition leader told his supporters that mobilising and building the party was everyone’s responsibility.

“Everyone is a change champion and must be responsible for mobilising at grassroot level, this movement is not about positions, it’s about delivering a new Zimbabwe, one that restores dignity to the people of this country,” Chamisa said.

Do Away With Top Of The Range Cars For Ministers, ED Told

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been advised to do away with the culture of splurging on top of the range vehicles for ministers and top bureaucrats and instead use the funds to develop the country.

The message came from opposition party, Alliance for the People’s Agenda (APA) in its independence message.

Zimbabwe commemorates 42 years of independence from British colonial bondage on Monday next week.

The party said government must instead save the money and use it to fund critical areas like education and health.

“We owe it to ourselves to start building an economy that can carry the weight of what we need in social services. We need to start cutting spending at the very top,” reads the statement.

“Our propensity for expensive cars must be stopped. By removing the need for personal cars for top servant leaders and politicians we can save the tax payers tonnes of money, money that can be used to resuscitate our schools and hospitals,” the party said.

“It is travesty of freedom and justice that top civil servants and politicians have brand new cars every 5 years while our teachers, schools, doctors, nurses and hospitals that serve the general population are literally closed. We are killing our people through greed. Where’s our shame?”

The independence commemorations come at a time the country’s economy is crumbling.

Decades of poor administration by successive Zanu-PF regimes have seen industries close, employment opportunities dwindling and standards of living extremely deteriorating.

“We have destroyed the foundations Rhodesians built. We have shown complete lack of creativity despite the abundance of natural wealth in our country. We have demonstrated an unparalleled expertise for corruption and mismanagement. The spending bug caught us very early. Smith was very frugal. His administration wasn’t as corrupt as any of the Zanu-PF administrations. The white population was united and worked for development of the country they were trying to develop,” APA said.

“What is clear is that we started spending money we didn’t have at a time we were assuming Rhodesia’s huge war time debt. It is not surprising that we dug ourselves into a huge hole. We started the irresponsible spending at a time when we were trying to expand the economic benefits to cover all 6 million black citizens from a mere 250 000 whites the Rhodesians were properly catering for. Clearly the economy could not cope with the increased load. As we look forward to independence day, let’s remember both the good and the bad that came with independence. It’s not all a bed of roses.”

Zimbabwean parliamentarians get top of the range vehicles each term while cabinet ministers and deputies get a selection of three high range, executive and expensive cars to use over their usually five year terms.

Zanu PF Accused Of Roping In Security Forces In Census Process

The involvement of members of the security sector in the upcoming population census has raised eyebrows, with observers describing it as a calculated move by the Zanu-PF government to manipulate the results ahead of the 2023 elections.

Government yesterday announced that members of the security sector, who include the police, soldiers and members of the Central Intelligence Organisation will be involved in the census together with other civil servants and Zanu-PF youths.

The 2022 population census, which is expected to run from April 21 to 30, 2022, will involve youths and security officers at the exclusion of teachers who have traditionally been recruited as enumerators, following their fallout with government over salaries.

“Cabinet wishes to inform the public that preparations for the 2022 population and housing census are on track, with levels one and two training having been completed in March 2022,” acting Information minister Mangaliso Ndhlovu said during a post-Cabinet media briefing on Tuesday.

“Cabinet highlights that the bulk of the personnel is drawn from the teaching fraternity, youth and other civil servants from the security sector.”

Zimbabwe Statistics Agency (ZimStats) spokesperson Mercy Chidemo did not disclose the number of security officers who had been recruited for the exercise, but curtly said they were “enough” to cover the cantonment areas.

“Members of the security forces were recruited to cover cantonments areas where civilian enumerators cannot enumerate for security reasons,” Chidemo said.

“Recruitment of security forces will not jeopardise the exercise as they are enumerating people in their barracks. (They are) enough to cover the cantonment areas.”

But analysts said the deployment of security officers as enumerators was tantamount to militarising the process which could threaten the accuracy of the census outcome.

Following the 2017 coup that ousted the late former President Robert Mugabe, concerns have been raised over involvement of the army in government institutions.

Serving and retired army officers have been deployed at roadblocks,  while some have been appointed to top posts  in key government institutions such as the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, the Health ministry and several others.

Human rights lawyer Alec Muchadehama bemoaned lack of transparency in the recruitment of enumerators, which he said raised suspicion of a sinister motive by the government.

“The recruitment should have been publicised and with consultation with the relevant stakeholders,” Muchadehama said. “Government was at loggerheads with teachers who are usually recruited as enumerators over the issue of salaries and it then scratched the majority of them off the census programme. In one way, the government is trying to buy loyalty from the security sector. There is no doubt that just like any other civil servants, the security forces know that their salaries are not enough  so when they are recruited they then get extra money from the programme, they will then remain loyal to the paymaster.”

Political analyst Effie Ncube said: “The militarisation of the census is as bad as the militarisation of the electoral process. This can only lead to rigged results. The militarisation also endangers democratic accountability as required by the Constitution as it will be difficult to bring the members of the security sector to account, given the circumstances.”

But constitutional lawyer  and National Constitutional Assembly party leader Lovemore Madhuku said there was nothing amiss about members of the security sector being involved in the census programme as they could carry out the duties just like any other civil servant.

“They are just like any other civil servants who are entitled to benefit from such programmes. World over, soldiers are also involved in such national exercises such as the census. Do we question involvement of soldiers in other social circles, say attending church services, for instance? In actual fact, involvement of soldiers could improve accountability of the whole process.”

Meanwhile, government has directed that tertiary education institutions be closed from April 18 to 30, 2022 during the duration of the census.

Government urged church members to be at their places of residence between April 18 and 30 to allow the smooth conduct of the census.

The now-deceased 43-year-old Zimbabwean was a gardener in Fourways and had a wife and four kids. He lived on Thubelihle Street, Diepsloot.

According to his family, Nyathi had just come home from work when a mob ran through his neighbourhood chasing a group of people, knocking on doors and asking for ID documents.

He was allegedly caught by the group who tied him up, assaulted him and set him on fire. Nyathi’s brother, Godknows, said:

My brother, his wife and others hid behind their shack and the group found them and started chasing them because they thought they were criminals.

We are hurt because my brother was not a criminal. I spoke to him yesterday when he was at work and after work, he came back home to Diepsloot and they killed him. My brother was a good person. He had a wife and four children.

All I can say to the community of Diepsloot is if they catch someone they need to investigate if this person is a criminal or not.

They can’t just catch someone and kill them because they will only find out in the end that this person was not a criminal and was innocent.

Zanu PF Strong-Holds Denounce Mnangagwa As Chamisa Goes Rural

By-Villagers in Maramba-Pfungwe, a traditional ZANU PF stronghold in Mashonaland East Province are unhappy with the slow progress in the rehabilitation of the Murewa-Madichecha road which began several years ago.

The villagers expressed their frustration over the lack of progress on the road during a visit to the area by the Transport and Infrastructure Development parliamentary portfolio committee.

A female villager told the Members of Parliament that the Government is ignoring the road which has resulted in the underdevelopment of the area. She said:

We thought by this time we would be enjoying travelling along this road like any other citizen.

The truth is nothing is being done at all to upgrade this Madichecha road. The bridges are a disaster.

Since 1980 when we attained independence there has been no meaningful road rehabilitation in this area.

We have been seeing contractors being dispatched here on the pretext of upgrading the road but there is no progress at all.

The villagers are asking why the government which they voted for is failing to honour them. We will remove the MPs from power thinking that they are failing.

But the truth is that the government is ignoring this road which is crucial to us.

Maramba-Pfungwe MP Tichaona Karimazondo (ZANU PF) told the parliamentarians that Madichecha road last got attention in 1990.

Transport Portfolio committee chairperson Oscar Gorerino said Government officials have been lying that progress is being made yet there is nothing on the ground. Said Gorerino:

The reports that we get in parliament from the Transport Ministry indicate that this bridge is completed, they lie to the President that there is positive progress on this road.

We have come here to witness it so that we see who is lying – the government officials or you the villagers.

We will see who is responsible for this delay, this is the same thing in Mukumbura, there is no progress at all as compared to the reports we get.

Headman Tsiga from Maramba Ward 16 urged the government to investigate the contractors and make them account for the disbursements.

ZAPU Confronts Zanu PF Over Elvis Nyathi Death

Mukuru Taken To Court For Hiring Foreign Employees

Financial services company Mukuru will have to revisit its employment policy after the Western Cape High Court lambasted it for ignoring South Africa’s employment laws in favor of hiring foreigners in positions South Africans can occupy.

Mukuru Group’s subsidiaries, Mukuru Financial Services (MFS) and Mukuru Africa (MA) unsuccessfully applied for a corporate visa to allow it to employ foreigners.

MFS wanted permission to hire 100 sales and support consultants, 10 controllers, and five call center team leaders, while MA applied for 10 customer service representatives, five agents supervisors, seven corridor champions, 10 number and verification officers, 10 regional sales supervisors, 20 verification officers, 23 information officers, and 10 area sales supervisors.

The essential academic requirement for all these posts was a Grade 12 or equivalent.

At the heart of the company’s argument was that it needed suitably qualified employees fluent in the indigenous languages of Zimbabwe, Malawi, and other “relevant” languages. The Mukuru group of companies uses financial technology solutions, including mobile phones and web-based technology to facilitate domestic and international money transfers, particularly across the African continent and parts of Asia.

The Department of Labour rejected the applications for the certificate on the basis that the skills were available in the country and that the foreign language requirement was discriminatory to local citizens.

The department found that MFS had a staff complement of 137 124, of whom 124 were foreigners while MA had a staff complement of 546, of whom 101 were foreigners.

Mukuru then turned to the courts for recourse. However, Judge Daniel Thulare dismissed Mukuru’s application to set aside the department’s decision.

“The applicants unfairly exclude South African citizens from employment opportunities in South Africa in favour of foreign nationals. In my view, this constituted unfair discrimination on grounds that included a race, ethnic or social origin, culture, language, and birth. This unfair discrimination resulted in the applicants being found wanting in respect of private sector development as a strategy of the developmental and transformative state.

“They failed to promote economic growth, which includes contributions by foreign nationals but also helps reduce poverty through deliberate actions to defeat the financial exclusion of the poor South African citizens,” the judgment reads.

For both general and corporate work visas, the benchmarking certificate recommendations must provide the following information:

  • That despite diligent search, the employer has been unable to find a suitable citizen or permanent resident with qualifications or skills and experience equivalent to those of the applicant;
  • The applicant has qualifications or proven skills and experience in line with the job offer; and
  • The salary and benefits of the applicant are not inferior to the average salary and benefits of citizens or permanent residents occupying similar positions in the republic.

Mukuru could not be reached for comment.

By- A Harare magistrate has found Marry Chiwenga guilty of violating the Marriages Act.

She was convicted after lying that her former husband, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, agreed to formalise their union while he was hospitalised in India.

Magistrate Lazini Ncube convicted Mubaiwa of the offence, saying evidence from witnesses proved that she lied about Chiwenga’s consent to legalise their marriage.

Ramaphosa Sits On Cold-Floor Mourning Flood Victims While Mnangagwa Airlifts Luxurious Sofas | PICTURES

By Farai D Hove | South Africa’s president Cyril Ramaphosa has been pictured humbly crashing onto the cold floor mourning flood victims in Kwazululu Natal, while cross the Limpopo, army personnel are in pictures airlifting luxurious sofas for use by Emmerson Mnangagwa, exactly this same time 3 years ago.

Ramaphosa yesterday met the family of Ms Nelisiwe Qwabe whose 3year-old grandson, Luyanda, is missing after floodwaters destroyed their home. Ms Qwabe’s grandsons Lwandle, 11 & Lusanda, 7, died when their home collapsed. 2 other grandchildren survived the incident. PICTURES

Marry Chiwenga Convicted Of Guvheya Misrepresentation

By A Correspondent | Marry Mubaiwa, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s estranged wife has been convicted for trying to upgrade the couple’s marriage while he was critically ill in India and unaware.

Mubaiwa was convicted after a full trial during which she denied the allegations arguing that they were in agreement with Chiwenga all the way.

The former model said she was secure in her marriage as such had no reason to forge wedding documents.

A total of 12 witnesses testified against her during the fast tracked trial which commenced last December.

Most of the witnesses said she never signed the marriage certificate.

But in convicting her Harare magistrate Lazini Ncube ruled that it is not in dispute that Chiwenga was too sick to be planning for a wedding.

The magistrate also said he found out that Chiwenga did not agree to the marriage upgrade as alleged by prosecutors.

The magistrate also said Mubaiwa misrepresented the facts to former judge president Justice George Chiweshe, well aware that her husband was in the dark.

“So if the complainant never consented to wed or have their marriage solemnised, can it be said the accused presented the correct statement to the first witness?

“It is my considered view that the accused made a false statement to the first witness who believed that there was consent from the complainant yet there was none. It is my considered view that there was overwhelming evidence against the accused person. The accused is therefore found guilty as charged,” Ncube ruled.

“False representation means presenting the facts which are not correct knowing that they are not correct,” he ruled.

Ncube said it is on record that Mubaiwa visited Chiweshe for him to facilitate the upgrade of the marriage.

“Justice Chiweshe decided to link her up with the second witness, Justice Munamato Mutevedzi (then chief magistrate) since Justice Chiweshe was not a marriage officer.

“It is therefore not in dispute that when she approached the first witness, it was for the purposes of having the marriage solemnised.”

The magistrate said all the evidence given by witnesses confirms that Mubaiwa had planned the wedding although it did not take place.

Mubaiwa had denied the allegations arguing that she had agreed with her husband to wed after the payment of lobola on July 2, 2011.

Mubaiwa further told court that she was with Chiwenga in India in 2019 where he was receiving medical treatment when they agreed that they would have a small wedding on 2nd of July 2019 if they were back home by then.

It was in her defence that when they were back in Zimbabwe, the jeweller came to their residence and measured their fingers.

It was also her evidence that when the complainant’s condition deteriorated, he was taken to South Africa for medical treatment and remained there beyond the 2nd of July 2019 and as a result the marriage could not take place.
Judgement is expected this Thursday.

Mnangagwa Gives Elvis Nyathi State Assisted Burial

Just as Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday accorded the South Africa slain Elvis Nyathi a state assisted burial, the man’s remains are set to be repatriated back home.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade said they are concerned with attacks on Zimbabweans in South Africa and will go through diplomatic channels to address the vice.

“We remain gravely concerned about the increase in the number of incidences of violence against our nationals in various parts of the host country, South Africa.

“Consultations with the host government will continue using the established diplomatic channels with a view to finding solutions to this devastating problem,” said the Ministry in a message posted on their Twitter handle.

Mr Nyathi’s brother – Godknows Nyathi is on record having said that his brother “was not a violent man, he was a very good person.”

South African-based funeral service-provider, Zororo-Phumulani powered by Doves says they will assist the Zimbabwe Consulate in South Africa to repatriate the remains of Mr Nyathi for free.

“We are at a loss of words about what happened in Diepsloot last Wednesday, what happened to Elvis is beyond human imagination,” said Zororo-Phumulani Managing Director, Mr Oliver Mufudze.-Herald

Abramovich Targets CF Valencia

Roman Abramovich will attempt to buy Spanish club Valencia once the sale of Chelsea is completed, according to another potential buyer for the Spanish club.

The Russian billionaire put the Blues up for sale last month after he was sanctioned by the UK Government.

Miguel Zorio, a Spanish businessman who is vying to buy Valencia with an €248m (£207.8m) bid, has claimed that Abramovich has also made an offer to takeover the La Liga club.

“Peter Lim (current owner of Valencia) has tried to sell the club in London for €250 million (£209.5m) and has not succeeded,“ Zorio said, as cited by Metro.co.uk.

“Lately, he has leaked to international media that he has two purchase offers, mine and that of the Russian oligarch of Chelsea.

“And from here, I tell him that either he puts €50 million every year to compensate for the losses he generates or he sells to us. Whether he likes it or not.”

Chelsea, meanwhile, are still no closer to their takeover from Abramovich’s era as the four chosen bidders have been given a deadline extension where they can submit improved offers.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

How President Chamisa Outwitted Mnangagwa, Mwonzora

Tinashe Sambiri| Citizens’ Coalition For Change leader President Nelson Chamisa has said there is a special package that will offered to veterans of the liberation struggle.

President Chamisa has also said pensioners deserve decent allowances.

In a statement on Wednesday, President Chamisa described POLAD as Mr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s pet project.

THE FOG HAS CLEARED IN ZIMBABWE

Advocate Nelson Chamisa

At the beginning of last year, I wrote an article in which I promised that “the fog will soon clear”.

That article appeared at a time when the movement was facing adverse circumstances. It was a message of reassurance to the millions of people who believed in us; people that had stood with us in times of great adversity. I knew that many of our supporters were anxious and worried. I wanted everyone to know that we were calm and still in control.

I was never in doubt that we would overcome the state-sponsored machinations against us. As a man of faith, I believed that the obstacles being placed in our way were merely testing our resolve and that we would come out stronger. As everyone now knows, the fog has now cleared.

Back in 2020, our movement became a target of a deliberate and systematic attack by the authoritarianism and tyranny. Our oppressors had realised that we were not for sale at any price. Their efforts to co-opt or neutralise us through vehicles like Mr Mnangagwa’s pet project Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) had failed.

It therefore created and supported a surrogate unit made up of old comrades who had turned rogue. This reactionary outfit, the ailing red party , was instrumentalised by the oppressors to drive us into extinction.

Operating in cahoots with each other, they went on a spree of firing our legitimately elected representatives in parliament and local authorities. They grabbed headquarters. The oppressors diverted our income under the political parties financing legislation, giving it to its surrogate. They even went after our name.

Although they misappropriated these material possessions, they did not realise that they were meaningless without the soul of the party. And the soul of the movement is vested in the citizens.

The best victories in war are won without fighting. They wanted a brawl over these things, but we chose peace and walked away. Some thought not fighting was a weakness on our part. They did not understand that we were playing the long game, rooted in the citizens. We were going to trust the court of public opinion.

On 24 January 2022, much to the surprise of our detractors, we delivered a new baby, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and in an instant, we painted the entire nation yellow.

What happened over the next few weeks is now part of historical legend and will be told in fireside tales for generations to come. We are grateful to the citizens for keeping the faith. Everywhere we went, we were greeted with great love and affection. It was as if this Citizens movement had been in existence for decades. It was and is a humbling experience.

If anyone was ever in doubt, the campaign rallies across the country confirmed that the fog had cleared. The surrogate organisation had been created to cause division and confusion. The oppressor wanted to create the impression that the opposition was divided. The aim was to suffocate and immobilise us.

Unfortunately, the gullible among us almost bought the ruse. We told them that the fog would clear, but while many understood us, some remained doubtful.

They were taken in by the false narratives that were already consigning us to the margins, suggesting that we were finished. They now know that they were fatally wrong.

The results of the just ended by-elections have put all those doubts to bed. We won 19 out of the 28 seats that were on offer. That’s 67,9% or more than two thirds majority of the available seats. We also won 75/120 of all the contested seats in local authorities. The outcome could not have been more emphatic and convincing. We won against all odds including under very controversial conduct and blatant partisanship by the ZEC.

Starting from nothing and operating on a shoe-string budget, we defeated and humiliated our older rivals. The by-elections were dubbed a mini-general election and we won that mini-general election in style.

The scale of our performance is best seen from the perspective that the surrogate party that the regime had promoted over the past 2 years at our expense got absolutely nothing in these by-elections. It did not win a single seat, indeed, not even a single polling station. This is a unit that had fired MPs and councillors claiming the seats belonged to it. But when the by-elections came, it got nothing. The by-elections confirmed the scale of its insignificance on the political landscape.

When I said the fog would soon clear, I meant that there would be no more confusion as to the state of the opposition. No serious observer of Zimbabwean politics can legitimately say today that the opposition is divided. Such a claim would be insincere. What is true is that there was an attempt to divide the opposition, but it ended in dismal failure. The citizens refused to be divided.

They had a clear choice in these by-elections between the CCC and ZANU PF. They chose the CCC and with that, made an emphatic political statement that clears any confusion.

However, we do not take this victory for granted. Neither will we bask in the glory of the victory and forget to draw lessons from the by-elections experience.

We learned a lot from the by-elections, not least the fact that we continue to operate in an authoritarian environment. We won the by-elections not because the election was free and fair but because by sheer force of will and faith, we overcame repressive and unfair conditions.

Our victory does not mean acceptance that elections have become free and fair, no or that we have full confidence in the elections referee, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, no. It fortifies our faith that even when faced with unfair impediments, it is still possible to overcome and succeed.

We will continue to fight for electoral reforms so that our elections can be free, fair and credible. The by-elections demonstrated severe weaknesses with the voters’ roll, which prevented many voters from exercising their right to vote as they were turned away at polling stations. We also witnessed the recurring problem of assisted voting, a facility that is abused to coerce citizens into voting against their wishes, especially in rural areas.

The regulatory authorities applied the law selectively, banning several of our rallies while allowing our competitors free passage. The Oppressor unleashed political violence which regrettably caused the death of one of our members, Mboneni Ncube and injuries to scores of citizens. The state broadcaster and newspapers continued with their biased approach in favour of the regime and against us. We saw the Zanupf party candidates engaging in vote buying which is contrary to the Electoral Law.

Despite this litany of unfair and repressive measures and practices, the will of the people prevailed. This is an important signal for the future, an indication that with the best will in the world, it is possible to overcome obstacles and succeed. However, at just 35% of the eligible voters, we also learned that the voter turnout was poor, and it may have cost us in the marginal seats. It goes without saying that to defeat authoritarianism, citizens must vote in large numbers, win big and defend the vote in large numbers. I know that by-elections traditionally draw fewer voters, but considering our circumstances, we do not have the luxury of ignoring elections. We must overcome voter apathy in 2023.

However, to be eligible to vote, citizens must register to vote. Therefore, the critical call right now is for citizens to go out and register to vote. I make this call especially to the young people of Zimbabwe. It is your future that is at stake but right now it is being decided by older generations. You cannot outsource decisions regarding your future to the older generations.

I know that young people complain that they do not have national Identity cards. Please use the opportunity that will be availed by the Registrar General’s national ID registration blitz. Voter registration itself is a continuous process, but there will be a mobile voter registration exercise in April. Please take advantage of it and make yourself eligible to vote in 2023.

I would like to thank everyone in the CCC who contributed to our success. There were many foot soldiers both at home and abroad. I was particularly pleased and humbled by the great fund-raising efforts both at home and in the Diaspora. To our Diaspora community, you may not be here with us physically, but your contributions to the struggle are making a huge footprint in our political landscape.

I was pleased to see that we fielded polling agents at all polling centres and that communities rallied around them, providing food and comfort during those many long hours keeping an eye on the process. With committed eyes and ears on the ground, our chances are enhanced.

I know that while we performed very well in urban areas, there are concerns over the rural areas. We are going to work very hard over the next months to enhance our fortunes countrywide and our performance at the next elections. It is a myth that rural areas belong to Zanupf . We know it is a myth because the we have won in various provinces with many rural constituencies before and we are going win again. We are committed to building a stronger and mutually enriching relationship with citizens in rural areas just as we have established a long-lasting relationship with the urban communities.

Now that the by-elections are over and we have made our political statement, over the next few months we will be focusing on building our party structures across the country and building a robust leadership machinery that will take us through to the 2023 elections. We commend those who have been elected to carry out their mandates with the seriousness they deserve. The citizens have corrected the democratic anomaly that was caused by the Oppressors and their surrogates over the past 2 years. Our mantra is Citizens at the centre. Citizens first in everything, including policy making, law making and all decision making.

As a Citizens movement, the coaches of our train are many and open to everyone. There is no first class or economy class. We have no chefs. Everyone is equal. We have space for the young and elderly, for workers, farmers, artisanal miners, and big business. There is room for veterans of all struggles, those who fought valiantly to establish nationhood, those who defended national interests in Mozambique and those who carried out regional mandate in the DRC.

They and our pensioners who serve the country with distinction should not be living in poverty. We as a Citizens movement (CCC) have a comprehensive package for them.

I said the fog would clear and now it has. However, the fact that the fog has cleared is not the end. We can now see more clearly where we want to go. With the pretenders out of the way, we must now work hard to make sure that we deliver victory in 2023. The by-elections victory has demonstrated that even when the odds are against us, we can still prevail, and we are confident that we shall prevail.

We won this by-elections against all odds and we will seal our victory in 2023. We win in large numbers. Let’s do it. Let’s finish it. Let’s win big.CCC is the next government of Zimbabwe.

The Mutsvangwa’s Mourn Their Granddaughter

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | One of the simplest and most rewarding joys of life is to be a grandparent. Granddaughters are remarkable, delightful beings.

They are uniquely talented in that they can remind us of the innocence of childhood but lack all the frustration that our children gave us.

Granddaughters are a precious gift and a never-ending source of joy. The bundle of Joy is what Paida was.

“Our 10 year old granddaughter Paida was an Angel Soul, a genius mind and a heart beyond her tender age. We are totally heartbroken!“

Paida ran a race of life and her race was too short. Ten years looked like two days. It is the prayer of every grandparent to be buried by their grandchildren. It was never meant that grandparents draw parallel lines on their chicks in mourning their granddaughters.

Our parents give us life.
Our grandparents give us a sense of who we are and where we came from and granddaughters give us the sense of accomplishment.

Paida was our favourite hello and hardest goodbye.

Having a granddaughter in your life is one of life’s greatest treasure.
They have this uncanny ability to bring love and happiness to your every day even if they are miles away.
Just knowing that you are the lucky grandparent that gets to play such an important part in your grandchild’s life can bring a smile to your face. But the cruel thing ever to happen is when that grandchild is taken away. Like a flickering light blown off in the darkness. Our light has been switched off and our legs cut
Before Paida’s death ,we did not think we understood death – and my granddaughter lived a fine life, but she had the great misfortune of a painful death, and for that We will always be in pain. Paida did not want to die She had not lived her life to the full. Her life was cut short in a cruel manner. We were never given a time to sit down with Paida and tell her how much she had meant to us. We never got time to say goodbye and time to say thank you. She never got time to say goodbye to her parents and her friends.
Paida’s life, as short as it was she was fit, elegant, charismatic and full of vim.
Paida was always the granddaughter who was always happy. She was always chic. She was a granddaughter of whom we were immensely proud of because people always commented how young and gorgeous she looked.  But of course she was young.
As we said goodbye to our Granddaughter Paida it hit us how incredibly lucky we have been to have our lovely granddaughter with us for ten years.
Not only with us but an integral, close part of our lives.
It is rare for a grandparent-grandchild relationship to be so essential and so long-lasting, but then, Paida was that exceptional kind of person every single day of her life.
Until her last breadth our granddaughter had more energy and interest in life than anyone we’ve ever known.
My granddaughter was an incredible child. Really, she was the regal leader in our family.
She was so much a part of who we are, we never thought that she would one day leave us, we can’t quite believe she is gone.
Paida you impacted our lives in so many ways.
You shaped us and taught us how to love and to be patient. You influenced all of us so greatly.
We will always love you and save a special corner of our heart to keep you with us.
And we know we will miss you every day of our lives.
We know that when Christ comes again we will meet in the skies and be together never to part.
We long for that world called heaven where we will never die.
Till we meet again.

Real Madrid Overcome Chelsea

Real Madrid booked their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League after beating Chelsea 5-4 on aggregate.

Thomas Tuchel’s side started on the front foot and took the lead through Mason Mount’s strike after 15 minutes. Chelsea continued to dominate and they doubled their lead in the 51st minute when Antonio Rudiger headed Mount’s corner past Thibaut Courtois.

Real Madrid continued to struggle and found themselves 3-0 down as Timo Werner’s strike took a slight deflection off Courtois. Rodrygo entered the pitch to replace Casemiro in the 78th minute and the Brazilian forward made an instant impact just two minutes later. Luka Modric found him with a superb ball with the outside of his foot and Rodrygo sidefooted it past Edouard Mendy.

With the score tied 4-4 on aggregate, the game headed into extra time. The hosts went ahead in the 96th minute thanks to Karim Benzema’s fourth goal of the tie to take his side into the last four.

The 13-time champions will play Manchester City or Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals.- The Athletic
