By-A Zimbabwean music promoter based in Cape Town, Ishmael Nkata, known as Mandebvu, has been gunned down in South Africa.

Mandevu was shot dead Friday night.

Earlier this year, the venue was temporarily closed after a patron also got shot before it reopened last weekend, according to H-Metro.

Macheso Buries Ex-Lover

By- Sungura music star Alick Macheso’s is said to have helped in the burial of a former lover, Petunia Rwizi.

Macheso dedicated one of his famous songs to Petunia.

She died at the age of 45.

Petunia recently succumbed to cancer and was laid to rest on 11 October at her rural home in Dirikwe Village of Nyanyadzi in Chimanimani District, according to Manica Post.

Macheso and Petunia have one child named Munashe who was born in 2000, the same year the song Petunia was released.

Mourners who gathered at Petunia’s rural homestead for a three-day funeral wake would often break into song and dance, with the hit song “Petunia”, being the soundtrack of the funeral.

Brother to the deceased, Isay Rwizi, spoke to Manica Post:

Most people who knew my sister well pleaded with us to have some sort of a funeral party for Petunia.

They played Alick Macheso’s music throughout and danced.

Apart from the suggestive dances, we saw nothing wrong with that because we all know that the two, Macheso and my sister Petunia, once had an affair and they had a child together.

Macheso also assisted Petunia with her hospital bills, long after her relationship with Macheso had ended, according to The Weekender.

The sungura maestro is also said to have contributed towards Petunia’s burial. Isay Rwizi said:

During the days she was unwell, Mai Shero (Macheso’s wife) gave our sister some financial assistance and we appreciate such humility.

In the song “Petunia”, Macheso expresses his deep love for the woman.

Back then, the rumour mill had it that a Chipinge man only identified as Garikai, who is also now late, was in a relationship with Petunia when Macheso came into the picture and he dumped her.

Macheso is said to have dedicated “Madhau” to a lover who was based in Marondera, while “Monalisa” hailed from Bulawayo and “Tafadzwa” traces part of her upbringing to Mutare.

Ethiopian Airlines Kisses Bulawayo

KISSING BULAWAYO: Ethiopian Airlines yesterday made its maiden flight to skyes as it landed at Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport, a key development in the aviation industry that will boost the tourism sector and ease international travel.
The airline arrived on schedule to a spectacular traditional water cannon salute.

The airline, which already flies into Zimbabwe through Harare and Victoria Falls, is set to provide service four times a week from Addis Ababa to Bulawayo through Victoria Falls.

The coming of more international airlines is testimony to the positive impact of Zimbabwe’s Open Skies Policy, which enhances the country’s attractiveness to potential investors.

When the Second Republic came into being in 2017, just three airlines were utilising the country’s airspace. Now more than 18 airlines are flying into the country.

Vintage cars escorted the Ethiopian Airline soon after landing for the first time at the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport in Bulawayo yesterday

Speaking at the welcome ceremony, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Engineer Theodius Chinyanga said the Ethiopian Airline will aid in increasing economic growth in the country.

“We are cognisant of the critical role that air transport plays in the economic development of our country.

“The coming in of Ethiopian Airlines to JM International Airport will, without a doubt, spur on and encourage more exciting ground-breaking investment and trade ventures in other downstream sectors of our economy to the benefit of the nation.”

He stressed the need to embrace and utilise the opportunity provided by Ethiopian Airlines to grow tourism, trade, attract foreign direct investments, and create beneficial business relationships with the world.

The permanent secretary said the ministry will endeavour to increase connectivity, not only with the continent of Africa but with the rest of the world in line with the Government’s National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) focusing on the realisation of the country’s vision of transforming Zimbabwe into an Upper-Middle Income Economy by 2030.

Before Ethiopian Airlines came to Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport, the only other international flight in and out of the airport was to Johannesburg in South Africa, which is operated by Airlink.

“Therefore, with the coming in of this flight from Addis Ababa, we now have increased the connectivity between Bulawayo and the rest of the continent and the world at large,” said the permanent secretary.

The airline’s chief commercial officer, Mr Lemma Yadesga Gudeta expressed confidence that the airline will facilitate easy international access by increasing connectivity.

“Our new flight to Bulawayo creates even stronger socio-economic ties between Ethiopia and Zimbabwe. It also has a significant role in international accessibility and boosts the country’s tourism sector.”

In a statement, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mr Mesfin Tasew, said the Bulawayo route will enhance international connectivity and facilitate trade within Africa and beyond.

“The commencement of flights to Bulawayo is crucial in connecting Southern Africa to the world with our 130 destinations in five continents. We are glad to serve Bulawayo, the industrial hub of Zimbabwe and Southern Africa, accelerating trade with our cargo and passenger services. Our flights to multiple cities in a country indicate our solid commitment to serve our customers and support our continent as the best pan-African carrier,” said Mr Tasew.

He said Ethiopian Airlines’ growing connectivity is backing the utilisation of the huge potential of the continent’s tourism industry.

“The new flight to Bulawayo will add convenience to travellers, thereby activating the trade activities in the industrial hub of southern Africa.”

Recently, Ethiopian Airlines was the official carrier for the international buyers and journalists who attended this year’s Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo, after they entered into a partnership with Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA). —Chronicle

Decades Of Misery Under Zanu PF Oppression

By Gift Ostallos Siziba

Zimbabwe is a nation in crisis.

It has been in a series of structural and interlocking crises that have converged to produce stagnation and catastrophe in the last few years. Politically, economically and socially, Zimbabwe is at a standstill. After November 2017, it fell into a deeper Constitutional crisis with broken foundations of legitimacy.

Sadly, there has been no movement; in fact there has been reversal and regression. Thus for the past 4 decades Zimbabweans have survived in a broken, failed and fragile State paralysed by a crisis of leadership, poor governance, non -inclusive institutions, low capacity and absence of a common vision. It has been in a vicious trap dominated by political instability, conflict, underdevelopment and a dysfunctional State.

Indeed the nation State has been bogged down by a massive social dislocation, collapsed economy, rampant poverty, underdevelopment, inequality, corruption and patronage. That State, the Zimbabwean State has sadly been a captured and conflated entity serving the interests of a party and a few elites, whilst retreating from its social and economic obligations to citizens. In the net result, the Zimbabwean citizen operated outside the realm of the State fending for himself in a difficult environment characterised by low per capita income and poor social services indicators.

It is the severe economic crisis that has been the most illustrative of Zimbabwe’s leadership crisis. The economic crisis is the single most visible illustration of the government’s gross failure and incompetence.

The economy has been a rickety affair of severe boom and bust cycles characterised by chapters of severe unprecedented hyperinflation, a collapsed currency and massive unemployment to the current status quo of low productivity, debt unsustainability, deflation and stagnation.

This situation requires robust, brave, radical and proactive responses, solutions and actions. In this regard, we, as the CCC , offer this smart response with actions and solutions to the agenda for real transformation in Zimbabwe.

We offer our promise and commitment to a New Zimbabwe under our soon to be availed New Zimbabwe Document.

Man Escapes Jail Sentence After Bashing Wife

AN abusive man from Cowdray Park suburb in Bulawayo who brutally assaulted his wife and knocked out her front teeth after a heated argument was lucky to escape jail agony when he was sentenced to perform 210 hours of unpaid labour.

General Ncube (25) pleaded guilty to a charge of physical abuse as defined in Section 3 (1) (a) as read with Section 4 of the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16.

Ncube was initially sentenced to 12 months in prison and had six months of the sentence suspended for three years on condition of good behaviour.

The other six months were suspended on condition that he completes 210 hours of community service.

The court heard that on 23 September 2022 at around 9am Siboniso Ndebele (23), asked her husband Ncube for permission to visit her relatives in New Luveve suburb and he turned down her request.

After denying her permission to visit her relatives, Ndebele told Ncube that she was leaving and immediately afterwards she left and headed to her relative’s house.

While she was approaching Cowdray Park on her way to New Luveve, she realised Ncube was following her.

Ncube then caught up with his wife and assaulted her using a stick all over her body and forced her to go back to their house.

Before they reached their place, Ndebele managed to escape and she sought refuge at a neighbour’s house.

Her daring husband came and pulled her out of the house.

When they arrived at their house, Ncube pushed her inside and locked the door and started assaulting her with a rope all over her body.

After his violent act, Ncube locked the door and left his wife lying unconscious on the floor.

She was later rescued by neighbours who came and managed to open the door.

As a result of the assault, Ndebele lost her front upper tooth and she sustained a swollen body, thighs and hands and suffered a severe headache.

The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Ncube.

Harare Man Bashes Wife Over Cellphone

NEWLY-WEDS, Aubrey ‘Auby K’ Chikonye, and wife Ratidzai Charumbira, appeared in court yesterday in a physical abuse storm, which was triggered by a dispute over a cellphone.

The matter was reported at Borrowdale Police Station under CR349/10/22.

Chikonye, who stands accused of violating the Domestic Violence Act by allegedly physically abusing his wife, appeared before Harare magistrate Nkosinomusa Ncube.

He was released on free bail and the case was remanded to November 23 for the commencement of trial.

Allegations are that on Tuesday this week, Charumbira was asleep when Chikonye returned home from work.

Chikonye is reported to have woken up his wife and requested to go through the call log on her cellphone.

It is the State’s case that Charumbira refused, and this resulted in a misunderstanding between the two.

Chikonye is said to have allegedly started assaulting Charumbira, first by allegedly suffocating her with a pillow, until she became breathless.

He reportedly continued slapping her on the face and back before pushing her off the bed.

Charumbira is said to have fallen onto the floor, landing on her forehead, and sustained injuries on her forehead and upper lip.

Mnangagwa Takes Country Deeper Into Economic Abyss

Young People And Self Harm

Key facts

Over 1.5 million adolescents and young adults aged 10–24 years died in 2020, nearly 5000 every day.
Young adolescents aged 10–14 years have the lowest risk of death of all age groups.
Injuries (including road traffic injuries and drowning), violence, self-harm and maternal conditions are the leading causes of death among adolescents and young adults
Half of all mental health disorders in adulthood start by age 14, but most cases are undetected and untreated.
Early onset of substance use is associated with higher risks of developing dependence and other problems during adult life, and people of younger ages are disproportionately affected by substance use compared with people of older ages.
Globally, there were 41 births per 1000 to girls aged 15–19 years in 2020.

Overview
Survival chances for adolescents and young adults vary greatly across the world. In 2020, the probability of dying among those aged 10–24 years was highest in sub-Saharan Africa, Oceania (excluding Australia and New Zealand), northern Africa and southern Asia (1). The average global probability of a 10-year-old dying before age 24 was 6 times higher in sub-Saharan Africa than in North America and Europe.

Main health issues
Injuries
Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death and disability among adolescents. In 2019, nearly 100 000 adolescents (10–19 years) died as a result of road traffic accidents (2). Many of those who died were vulnerable road users, including pedestrians, cyclists or users of motorized two-wheelers. In many countries, road safety laws need to be made more comprehensive, and enforcement of such laws needs to be strengthened. Furthermore, young drivers need advice on driving safely, while laws that prohibit driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs need to be strictly enforced among all age groups. Blood alcohol levels should be set lower for young drivers than for adults. Graduated licences for novice drivers with zero-tolerance for drink-driving are recommended.

Drowning is also among the top causes of death among adolescents; more than 40 000 adolescents, over three quarters of them boys, are estimated to have drowned in 2019. Teaching children and adolescents to swim is an essential intervention to prevent these deaths.

Violence
Interpersonal violence is among the leading causes of death in adolescents and young people globally. Its prominence varies substantially by world region. It causes nearly a third of all adolescent male deaths in low- and middle-income countries in the WHO Region of the Americas. According to the global school-based student health survey 42% of adolescent boys and 37% of adolescent girls were exposed to bullying. Sexual violence also affects a significant proportion of youth: 1 in 8 young people report sexual abuse.

Violence during adolescence also increases the risks of injury, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, mental health problems, poor school performance and dropout, early pregnancy, reproductive health problems, and communicable and noncommunicable diseases.

Effective prevention and response strategies include promoting parenting and early childhood development; addressing school-based bullying prevention, programmes that develop life and social skills, and community approaches to reduce access to alcohol and firearms. Effective and empathetic care for adolescent survivors of violence, including ongoing support, can help with the physical and psychological consequences.

Mental health
Depression is one of the leading causes of illness and disability among adolescents, and suicide is the second leading cause of death in people aged 15–19 years (2). Mental health conditions account for 16% of the global burden of disease and injury in people aged 10–19 years. Half of all mental health disorders in adulthood start by age 14, but most cases are undetected and untreated.

Many factors have an impact on the well-being and mental health of adolescents. Violence, poverty, stigma, exclusion, and living in humanitarian and fragile settings can increase the risk of developing mental health problems. The consequences of not addressing adolescent mental health conditions extend to adulthood, impairing both physical and mental health and limiting opportunities to lead fulfilling lives as adults.

Building socioemotional skills in children and adolescents and providing them with psychosocial support in schools and other community settings can help promote good mental health. Programmes to help strengthen the ties between adolescents and their families and improve quality of home environments are also important. If problems arise, they should be detected and timely managed by competent and caring health workers.

Adolescent mental health fact sheet

Alcohol and drug use
Drinking alcohol among adolescents is a major concern in many countries. It can reduce self-control and increase risky behaviours, such as unsafe sex or dangerous driving. It is an underlying cause of injuries (including those due to road traffic accidents), violence and premature deaths. It can also lead to health problems in later life and affects life expectancy. Worldwide, more than a quarter of all people aged 15–19 years are current drinkers, amounting to 155 million adolescents. Prevalence of heavy episodic drinking among adolescents aged 15–19 years was 13.6% in 2016, with males most at risk.

Cannabis is the most widely used psychoactive drug among young people with about 4.7% of people aged 15–16 years using it at least once in 2018. Alcohol and drug use in children and adolescents is associated with neurocognitive alterations which can lead to behavioural, emotional, social and academic problems in later life.

Prevention of alcohol and drug use are important areas of public health actions and may include population-based strategies and interventions, activities in school, community, family and on the individual level. Setting a minimum age for buying and consuming alcohol and eliminate marketing and advertising to minors are among the key strategies for reducing drinking among adolescents.

Tobacco use
The vast majority of people using tobacco today began doing so when they were adolescents. Prohibiting the sale of tobacco products to minors (under 18 years) and increasing the price of tobacco products through higher taxes, banning tobacco advertising and ensuring smoke-free environments are crucial. Globally, at least 1 in 10 adolescents aged 13–15 years uses tobacco, although there are areas where this figure is much higher.

HIV/AIDS
An estimated 1.7 million adolescents (age 10–19 years) were living with HIV in 2019 with around 90% in the WHO African Region (3). While there have been substantial declines in new infections amongst adolescents from a peak in 1994, adolescents still account for about 10% of new adult HIV infections, with three-quarters amongst adolescent girls (4). Additionally, while new infections may have fallen in many of the most severely affected countries, recent testing coverage remains low suggesting that many adolescents and young people living with HIV may not know their status (5).

Adolescents living with HIV have worse access to antiretroviral treatment, adherence to treatment, retention in care and viral suppression. A key factor contributing to these is limited provision of adolescent-friendly services including psychosocial interventions and support.

Adolescents and young people need to know how to protect themselves from HIV infection and must also have the means to do so. This includes being able to obtain access HIV prevention interventions including voluntary medical male circumcision, condoms and pre-exposure prophylaxis, better access to HIV testing and counselling, and stronger links to HIV treatment services for those who test HIV positive.

Other infectious diseases
Thanks to improved childhood vaccination, adolescent deaths and disability from measles have fallen markedly. For example, adolescent mortality from measles fell by 90% in the African Region between 2000 and 2012.

Diarrhoea and lower respiratory tract infections (pneumonia) are estimated to be among the top 10 causes of death for adolescents 10–14 years. These two diseases, along with meningitis, are all among the top 5 causes of adolescent death in African low- and middle-income countries.

Infectious diseases like with human papilloma virus that normally occurs after onset of sexual activity can lead to both short-term disease (genital warts) during adolescence but more importantly also leads to cervical and other cancers several decades later. Early adolescence (9–14 years) is the optimal time for vaccination against HPV infection and it is estimated that if 90% of girls globally get the HPV vaccine more than 40 million lives could be saved over the next century. However, it is estimated that in 2019 only 15% of girls globally received the vaccine.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) and cervical cancer fact sheet

Early pregnancy and childbirth
Approximately 12 million girls aged 15–19 years and at least 777 000 girls under 15 years give birth each year in developing regions. Complications from pregnancy and childbirth are among the leading causes of death for girls aged 15–19 years globally.

The UN Population Division puts the global adolescent birth rate in 2020 at 41 births per 1000 girls this age, and country rates range from 1 to over 200 births per 1000 girls (6). This indicates a marked decrease since 1990. This decrease is reflected in a similar decline in maternal mortality rates among girls aged 15–19 years.

One of the specific targets of the health Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 3) is that by 2030, the world should ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care services, including for family planning, information and education, and the integration of reproductive health into national strategies and programmes.

Adolescents need and have a right to comprehensive sexuality education, a curriculum-based process of teaching and learning about the cognitive, emotional, physical and social aspects of sexuality. Better access to contraceptive information and services can reduce the number of girls becoming pregnant and giving birth at too young an age. Laws that are enforced that specify a minimum age of marriage at 18 can help.

Girls who do become pregnant need access to quality antenatal care. Where permitted by law, adolescents who opt to terminate their pregnancies should have access to safe abortion.

Hon Sikhala turned 50 on Sunday October 30. He was jailed for denouncing the brutal murder of CCC activist Moreblessing Ali.

On Sunday President Chamisa described Wiwa as a hero of the people’s struggle.

“Today Hon @JobSikhala1 turns 50.

Woman Slapped At Court By Lover’s Wife

By A Correspondent- A Mutare woman was yesterday arrested at Mutare Civil Court after slapping her husband’s alleged lover who was applying for a peace order against her.

Sandra Mukasi slapped Tinotenda Kamangira of 3897 Phase 2 Chikanga as they waited outside the court room to appear before Magistrate Perseverance Makala.

Kamangira had approached the court seeking a peace order against Mukasi who was allegedly harassing her after catching her in bed with her husband Nicholas Karonga.

A peace order was granted and later Mukasi was arrested and taken to Mutare Central Police station.

The court heard that Mukasi left Karonga and their children and went to South Africa in search of green pastures.

Karonga who works at Red Cross Society in Sakubva met Kamangira who was doing her nurse aid attachment at the same organisation and the two started dating. Karonga allegedly lied to Kamangira that he was a widower.

Mukasi

came back home unannounced and found the two lovebirds cohabiting at her matrimonial home. Mukasi and Kamangira exchanged harsh words and Mukasi allegedly continued harassing her.

Kamangira then sought a peace order against Mukasi and before the matter was heard by Magistrate Makala, Mukasi slapped Kamangira in full view of Police details leading to her arrest.

“It is true that I dated her husband while I was on attachment but I didn’t know that he was married. When I became aware of it, I stepped aside but still after that Mukasi is in the habit of harassing and assaulting me like she has just done, said a sobbing Kamangira.”

Woman To Get Own Hubby’s Full Salary

By A Correspondent- A Harare woman has won the right to get her husband’s entire salary into her bank account every month.

The money will be used for the maintenance for their three children.

The woman, only identified as Mandaza, told the Harare Civil Court yesterday that she wanted her husband, Enock Tigere’s pay of $160 000.

She accused Tigere of being an irresponsible man, and magistrate Ayanda Dlamini upheld her application.

“When he receives his salary, he does not come home until the money is finished, and the children are the ones who end up suffering.

“If it is possible, I want the company he works for, to put his salary into my account.

“It is better to get his whole salary than watch him drag down the life of the children and leave them to suffer.”

Tigere consented to his wife’s demands.

“We are legally married and stay together, so you can give her what she wants.

“After all, the money is for taking care of my children,” he said.

Man Hauled To Court Over R2

By A Correspondent- A man from Nkulumane suburb appeared before Western Commonage Court magistrate Shepherd Mnjanja facing charges of allegedly robbing a 13-year-old boy of R2.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded out of custody to 1 November 2022 for trial.

The incident which happened in Nkulumane suburb was reported to the police leading to the arrest of 34-year-old Josiah Chagwedera.

The court heard that Chagwedera who was walking with his dog along a road which leads to the shops bumped into the 13-year-old boy who was coming from the opposite direction.

It is reported that when he met the boy he blocked his way and demanded money while threatening to set his dog on him.

The seemingly fearful boy offered to give him a loaf of bread which he was carrying but Chagwedera insisted that he wanted money, forcing the boy to surrender R2 to him.

It is alleged that Chagwedera slapped the boy as he demanded more money. He later released the boy while sternly ordering him to go straight home.

The boy narrated what had transpired to his parents leading to the arrest of the accused.

Bulawayo High Court Quartet Suspended Over Forgery

By A Correspondent- Four senior officials from the Bulawayo High Court have been suspended on allegations of forging a law firm’s date stamp in a move allegedly meant to influence the outcome of a Supreme Court case.

The four —  Bulawayo High Court registrar Felix Hwara, court clerk Joyce Ngoma and deputy registrars; Andrew Ngwenya and Achidaishe Simari — were suspended to allow internal investigations to go ahead.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) head of corporate services, Mr Daniel Nemukuyu, confirmed the suspension and said investigations were underway.

“We can confirm that our four officers based in Bulawayo were suspended after corruption allegations were raised against them. The suspension is meant to allow internal investigations. The investigations have since commenced and we will be guided by the outcome. As the Judicial Service Commission, we do not condone corruption,” said Mr Nemukuyu.

While Mr Nemukuyu could not shed more light on the corruption allegations, sources close to the matter said the quartet is accused of forging a law firm’s rubber stamp. Allegations are that the four, acting in cahoots, used a forged stamp on papers that were supposed to be served to a law firm (name withheld) which was representing an applicant in a matter that was set for the Supreme Court.

The papers which were supposed to inform the applicants of when the matter was slated to be set down were, however, not served to the lawyers but were filed in the court’s records. As a result, that influenced a ruling against the applicant, and the lawyers argued that they were not served with the papers. Upon inquiry, the lawyers were shown the papers which were filed in the court records and had their stamp which was “proof” that they had indeed received the papers.

However, the lawyers allegedly discovered that the stamp was forged as the date was in a different colour from the one they use. Forgery allegations were raised leading to the suspension of the four. The JSC has previously reiterated its stance of zero tolerance to corruption within the country’s justice system, warning that stern measures would be taken against rotten apples.

This has seen the JSC so far busting a corrupt cartel at Nyanga Magistrates’ Court involving two clerks and some top officials.

In Masvingo, a magistrate was dismissed over gross incompetence linked to alleged corruption, while in Rusape the JSC resolved to transfer nearly the entire staff at the station following reports of alleged corruption. In August a former Kwekwe resident magistrate and his clerk of court were sentenced to a combined 24 months in prison after they were convicted of abuse of office.

Some of the corruption cases that the judiciary has taken zero tolerance on include receiving bribes, violation of court rules and other malpractices.

Zanu Pf Congress Recycles “Deadwood”

By A Correspondent- Several forgotten Zanu-PF stalwarts had their political careers resurrected at the ruling party’s just ended congress after spending years in the cold following the creation of a council of elders and appointments into the central committee by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The Zanu-PF congress ended in Harare yesterday after 80-year-old Mnangagwa was endorsed as the ruling party’s candidate for next year’s presidential elections.

wife Auxillia Mnangagwa also officially became a member of the central committee following in the footsteps of former first lady Grace Mugabe.

Grace Mugabe rose to become a politburo member and tried to influence the succession of her late husband Robert Mugabe, which many analysts believe precipitated the 2017 coup that toppled the octogenarian.

Mnangagwa succeeded Mugabe with promises to modernise both the ruling party and the country, but he is increasingly being compared to his authoritarian predecessor.

As

expected, he did not make any changes to the party’s presidium as he re-appointed his deputies Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi, while chairperson Oppah Muchinguri retained her post.

Mohadi resigned from government in 2020 after he was caught up in a messy sex scandal involving married women.

Mnangagwa has stuck to one VP and in the process doing away with a Mugabe tradition to appoint a former Zapu member and someone from Matabeleland as one of his deputies in government.

Zanu-PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu, commissar Mike Bimha,  women’s league  boss Mabel Chinomona, secretary for security Lovemore Matuke and secretary for war veterans Douglas Mahiya and finance secretary Patrick Chinamasa also retained their posts in the politburo.

The congress also approved the constitution of a council of elders with former cabinet ministers Josaya Hungwe, Tshinga Dube and Angeline Masuku emerging as some of the inaugural members.

Hungwe, who was a senator at independence in 1980, served as a minister for many years.

Former ministers Francis Nhema and Nicholas Goche also made a comeback after some years on the sidelines.

The former ministers found themselves in political wilderness following the removal of Mugabe from office in November 2017.

Goche was fired for hobnobbing with former vice-president Joice Mujuru in 2013 and has not held a senior position since then.

Former Primary and Secondary Education minister Lazarus Dokora and ex-Finance deputy minister Terrence Mukupe also made a comeback into the central committee.

Dokora was booted out in 2018.

Other members who made it into the central committee include party secretary for legal affairs Paul Mangwana, Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs minister Abednico Ncube and former Harare Provincial Affairs minister Miriam Chikukwa, who were appointed into the central committee by Mnangagwa.

Businessman James Makamba, Edgar Mbwembwe and lawyer Jonathan Samkange also made the list.

Mnangagwa also extended an olive branch to other former senior Zanu-PF members to re-join the former liberation movement.

“Party structures must never block people from joining and re-joining the party for personal interests,” he said in his closing remarks yesterday.

“Party structures and leadership at every level must resist the temptation to close any individuals or group of persons from coming into Zanu-PF on the basis of preferences or even preservation of a few, or that if he enters he will take my position.

9-Year-Old Girl Byo Girl Is 8-Months Pregnant

In what could be the first in the country, a nine-year-old girl is admitted to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) as she is 33 weeks pregnant and is expected to give birth at the institution.

This comes a few weeks after a 13-year-old girl from Mkhosana Township in Victoria Falls wrote part of her Zimsec Grade Seven examinations on a hospital bed soon after giving birth at Victoria Falls Hospital. In the Victoria Falls case, the girl was not aware that she was pregnant until a month before giving birth.

The UBH case has seen the nine-year-old, who is about one month away from giving birth, being monitored by a team of specialist doctors and nurses owing to the delicate nature of the pregnancy.

Reports have indicated that the nine-year-old is from Tsholotsho Discrict in Matabeleland North Province with officials from the Department of Social Welfare in the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare investigating circumstances surrounding the pregnancy. Sources claimed she could have been raped and impregnated by a “close person”, hence the investigations that also involve the police.

A Sunday News crew last week visited UBH and spoke to the acting chief executive officer of the institution, Dr Harrison Rambanapasi, who confirmed the matter, but could not share finer details. He said the girl actually conceived when she was eight years old, which was made possible by a rare condition of precocious puberty (development of sexual maturation earlier than the normal age). Dr Rambanapasi said ordinarily puberty should start at 11 years.

Guruve Teenager Jailed For Caressing Married Woman In Public

THREE Guruve-based youths were on Tuesday sentenced to 10 months each in jail for forcibly grabbing a married woman and caressing her in public while demanding sex.

Dzikamai Maonera (19), Simon Moyo (24) and Mike Chikara (18) pleaded guilty to the charge before Guruve magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa.

Prosecutor Albert Charehwa told the court that on October 19 the trio met the complainant at Chimoio business center and took turns to propose love.

They were all turned down by the complainant who said she is married and come to pick her husband up at the Business Centre.

The trio was under the influence of alcohol and grabbed the complainant before demanding sex.

They started caressing the complainant while demanding to take turns on sex.

A passer-by Kudakwashe had to be bold and restrained them from their shenanigans.

Mnangagwa Ignoring Me: Chamisa

CITIZENS Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa yesterday said President Emmerson Mnangagwa was ignoring his calls for dialogue to end escalating acts of political violence ahead of the 2023 elections.
Chamisa told The Standard in an interview that he had made a “formal engagement” for a dialogue with Mnangagwa over the violence which has spread throughout the country.

A fortnight ago, CCC supporters including legislators Kucaca Phulu and proportional representation MP Jasmine Toffa were left nursing injuries after they were attacked by suspected Zanu PF activists in Matabeleland South.

They were conducting campaigns for their candidates that took part in local government by-elections in Insiza and Matobo when the Zanu PF activists unleashed an orgy of violence.

“We need a new national consensus. We must have a pre- and post-election pact through dialogue,” Chamisa said.

“Mnangagwa is fully aware of this (that I want dialogue). Zimbabwe wants national leaders’ not party leaders, not those that are pursuing selfish interests.

“The issue of violence and gross human rights abuse is bigger than a political party.”

Mnangagwa last week urged party supporters to shun violence while addressing delegates at the Zanu PF congress held in the capital.

Mnangagwa has previously said he cannot dialogue with Chamisa alone.

He has said Chamisa must join the Political Dialogue Act (Polad), a platform where he meets with other opposition party leaders.

But Chamisa has said the contentious issues were between major rival parties, CCC and Zanu PF.

“Politics must not be a declaration of war. It is a mandate conferred by citizens through a credible poll,” Chamisa said.

“What we must change in Zimbabwe is the fabric of election and that can be only achieved through a genuine conversation.

“This is a Zimbabwean issue. It’s an African issue. We must move away from toxic politics, adversarial and conflict ridden engagement on political issues.

“We must learn from what has been happening in DRC, Malawi, Zambia, now Lesotho, which is governance through free and fair elections.”

CCC recently launched a seven-pillar electoral blueprint titled Pre-election Pact on Electoral Reforms (PREPARE)that specifies its demands on reforms to guarantee the holding of credible, free and fair elections.

Chamisa called on the church and other stakeholders to facilitate the dialogue between him and Mnangagwa.

“Civic society organisations and the church can facilitate the dialogue,” said Chamisa.

“A disputed election is dangerous to the nation.

“It is folly and narrow-minded to pursue a course that leads to a disputed election.

“Any wise leader should appreciate a patriotic platform.

“I have raised my hand on behalf of the citizens to say, let’s have a meaningful dialogue on issues of concern.

“We are missing the boat because of selfish politics.

“We cannot have a commandeered voting system in the rural areas and claim that we have had an election.”

Mnangagwa’s spokesperson George Charamba yesterday insisted on Polad as the only platform for dialogue.

“But Chamisa has his own reservations, which has deadlocked the issue of dialogue between him and the president,” Charamba said.

“The burden of finding another platform, which is efficacious, appealing and acceptable to Zanu PF and the president is his and I wish him all the best on that score.

“There is also the provision of the Private Membership Bill which they can pursue.

“Whether those options succeed or not it’s another issue, but the fact is they have several avenues to push for the reforms.”

The CCC leader has survived attacks from suspected Zanu PF activists, including an assassination attempt last year during his rural mobilisation visits. Standard

Mnangagwa Promotes Own Wife Into Central Committee

Some forgotten Zanu PF stalwarts had their political careers resurrected at the ruling party’s just ended congress after spending years in the cold following the creation of a council of elders and appointments into the central committee by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The Zanu PF congress ended in Harare yesterday after 80-year-old Mnangagwa was endorsed as the ruling party’s candidate for next year’s presidential elections.

His wife Auxillia Mnangagwa also officially became a member of the central committee following in the footsteps of former first lady Grace Mugabe.

Mnangagwa also extended an olive branch to other former senior Zanu PF members to re-join the former liberation movement.

“Party structures must never block people from joining and re-joining the party for personal interests,” he said in his closing remarks yesterday.

Party structures and leadership at every level must resist the temptation to close any individuals or group of persons from coming into Zanu PF on the basis of preferences or even preservation of a few, or that if he enters he will take my position.

“Rejecting others is not the Zanu PF way. Instead our structures must make our membership base stronger and broader by accepting more and more people into the party.”

He added: “Zanu PF is for the founders, dead and alive, the current generation and the coming generation.

“It was handed to us alive and we must also hand it over alive.

“The Chitepo School of Ideology must continue imparting ideology to all party members.

“You are more important in the party if you have ideology than if you have money.”

Mnangagwa also appointed the leader of Zanu (Ndonga) Wilson Khumbula into the all-powerful Zanu PF central committee as he eyes the Chipinge vote in the 2023 elections.

Zanu (Ndonga), formed by the late Ndabaningi Sithole after he was forced out of Zanu PF, draws its support from largely the Ndau populated district of Chipinge where Zanu PF has struggled to make inroads for years.

Sithole was the founding president of Zimbabwe African National Union (Zanu) in 1963.

He was later deposed in a palace coup engineered by Mugabe who accused him of denouncing the liberation struggle during a court trial in 1975.

In August, Mnangagwa posthumously conferred national hero status on Sithole to pacify the Chipinge electorate and win votes.

A gala to celebrate Sithole is also on the cards.

The wife of the late Zanla guerrilla army commander Josiah Tongogara, Angeline is also now a member of the central committee.

Zanla was the military wing of Zanu during the armed struggle.– Standard

4 High Court Officials Caught In Forgery

Four senior officials from the Bulawayo High Court have been suspended on allegations of forging a law firm’s date stamp in a move allegedly meant to influence the outcome of a Supreme Court case.

–Sunday News

London Museum Agrees To Release Mbuya Nehanda Skull

https://twitter.com/ZimEye/status/1587348970451378176?t=RC-IMxSxhjeoBcS1IlzfgA&s=19

London’s Natural History Museum and Cambridge University have said that they are ready to co-operate with Zimbabwe to return human remains that were taken in the colonial era.

The fresh statements come after a delegation from Zimbabwe held talks with officials from both institutions.

The Zimbabweans are looking for the skulls of late-19th Century anti-colonial heroes, which they believe could be in the UK.

But these have not yet been found.

The authorities in Zimbabwe have long suspected that the remains of some of the leaders of an uprising against British rule in the 1890s – known as the First Chimurenga – were taken to the UK as trophies.

The most significant among them was a woman who became known as Mbuya Nehanda. She was executed in what is now the capital, Harare and is revered as a national heroine.

In doing a search of its archive, the Natural History Museum did uncover 11 remains “that appear to be originally from Zimbabwe” – but its records do not connect them with Nehanda. These include three skulls taken in 1893, thought to be from Zimbabwe’s second city, Bulawayo, as well as remains uncovered in mineshafts and archaeological digs and later donated.

Cambridge University’s Duckworth Laboratory has not been so specific, simply saying it has “a small number of human remains from Zimbabwe”, but in a statement sent to the BBC it said it had not identified any of these as belonging to First Chimurenga figures.

The Natural History Museum, with 25,000 human remains, and the Duckworth Laboratory, with 18,000, have some of the largest such archives in the world.

These have come from a variety of sources including archaeological excavations of ancient sites, but for many the exact origins have been obscured by time.

During the colonial era, body parts were sometimes removed from battlefields or dug up from graves either as trophies or for research into a now-discredited scientific field.

In the 19th Century, phrenology, which investigated the idea that human characteristics could be determined by the shape of the skull, was very popular in the UK and other parts of Europe.

Phrenological societies would collect skulls to help develop the theory, which for some extended to racial classification.

Some researchers set out to show that skull shape indicated that people from different parts of the world were inherently inferior. Some of the archives that now exist in the UK are amalgamations of what had been amassed by defunct phrenological societies as well as private collectors.

Zimbabwe’s government believes that somehow the skulls of the country’s heroes ended up in the archives of a British museum.

Chief among them were spiritual leaders, including Charwe Nyakasikana, who became known as Mbuya (Grandmother) Nehanda as she was the medium of the revered ancestral spirit Nehanda. She was arrested after being accused of murdering a British official.Nehanda was then hanged and her body decapitated, it is believed.

What happened next is not clear, but in recent years, Zimbabwean officials have made several public statements saying it ended up in the Natural History Museum. With a death cry of “my bones will surely rise”, Nehanda became an increasingly potent symbol for those fighting against white-minority rule in what was then known as Rhodesia from the late 1960s.

Zimbabwe gained independence in 1980

A three-metre statue of Nehanda now stands over a major road in the centre of Harare. At its unveiling in 2021, President Emmerson Mnangagwa pledged to continue to call for the return of her skull and others from the Natural History Museum.

For Zimbabweans, the removal of the head “means that you have literally punished the person beyond the grave”, Godfrey Mahachi, who led the delegation to the UK, told the BBC in 2020 when the visit was being planned.

“If the head is separated, that means that the spirit of that person will forever linger and never settle.”

Despite not finding what the Zimbabwean delegation was looking for, both the Natural History Museum and Cambridge University say they are committed to working with the Zimbabwean government to repatriate what was found.

As part of its policy of repatriation, earlier this year, the Natural History Museum returned ancestral Moriori and Maori remains.

In a press statement following a recent cabinet meeting, Zimbabwe’s government said that the delegation that went to the UK was satisfied that “there are indeed human remains of Zimbabwean origin in the UK”.

“Government will spare no effort to ensure the repatriation of our ancestors,” it added.

The Zimbabwean delegation also held talks with the British Museum, Oxford University’s Pitt Rivers Museum, the University of Manchester Museum and the UK’s National Archives. But no details are given about what was discussed.

Despite the lack of success in this trip to the UK, the historical significance to Zimbabwe of the remains of Nehanda and others means that the search will continue.

Harare Bosses Swindled Land

Former Harare town clerk Tendai Mahachi and ex-caretaker chairperson of a commission that once City of Harare allegedly Sekesai Makwavarara allegedly connived with Russian national Tatiana Aleshina to sign controversial land development deals with Augur Investments.
Aleshina is a business partner of businessman Ken Sharpe, who owns Augur Investments that was controversially awarded the contract on May 30, 2008 without going to tender.

Augur Investments was supposed to construct the Airport Road with an understanding that 90% of the costs would be paid in the form of land and 10% in cash.

Augur went on to subcontract Fairclot, which withdrew all its equipment and stopped work on the road to connect the Robert Mugabe International Airport to Harare’s central business district after doing 2.7km of the 10km due to non-payment.

Government later cancelled the contract, but the Harare City Council had already transferred a total of 273, 299 hectares of land in Borrowdale’s Pomona area to Augur Investments.

In 2007, Augur Investment entered into a joint venture agreement with the City of Harare for the construction of middle income houses in the capital.

Last year, the Zimbabwe Homeless People Federation (ZHPF) went to court challenging the joint venture agreement.

In their application, they sought a declaratory order nullifying the shareholders agreement and the agreement signed between City of Harare and Augur Investments.

They also claimed that the agreement was fraudulent and the contracts were against public policy.

According to former Finance minister Tendai Biti, the joint venture agreement was sealed during a Christmas party in 2006 when Aleshina met Makwavarara.

He made the claims while making his submissions for referral of his case of assault to the Constitutional Court.

Biti stands accused of verbally assaulting Aleshina in 2020 at the Harare magistrates court.

“I advise the cCourt Your Worship, that Augur Investments was created by the complainant herself and the complainant advised the state that she is the one who at a Christmas party in 2006 met with Makwavarara in order to execute the deal,” Biti said.

“Aleshina connived together with Mahachi to appoint a caretaker council in order to sign this deal without due processes…and the complainant was given the contract.

“The deal was supposed to be executed by a full council meeting led by the mayor, but in this case it was executed by a shaddy caretaker council.”

In 2019, Mahachi and Makwavarara were dragged to court on charges of illegally awarding Augur Investments the tender.

According to the state, Makwavarara, acting in connivance with her alleged accomplices, corruptly caused the City of Harare to enter into a memorandum of agreement with Augur Investments Pvt Ltd without a council resolution.

They also did not follow tender procedures, the state further alleged.

It was alleged that they violated the law by engaging Augur Investments, which was then not registered in Zimbabwe under the Companies Act and Zimbabwe Investments Authority (ZIA).

“Augur Investments is a company established in Estonia, but she contradicted herself while giving a statement to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) by saying the company is based in Ukraine,” Biti added.

“The complainant created this fiction called Augur Investments masquerading as a foreign investor.

“The evidence from the investigators is clear that Augur Investments shelf company was created by Oleksandr Sheremet to smuggle the complainant into the country.”

Prosecutor Micheal Reza, however, objected to Biti’s submissions saying they were irrelevant and meant for media attention.

“I previously objected to these irrelevant submissions, by his own admission he said he doesn’t know the person he is talking about of the happenings that he claimed in 2007 in Estonia.

“The assault case happened in 2020 can we be spared,” Reza objected.

“There are reporters who are here to write his irrelevant submissions in this assault case.

“It’s now four months while submitting this application.

“These submissions are not for this court because here we are having a simple assault case and not this Augur Investment case.

“If we do not object him we will hear him saying l heard my grandmother had measles in 1884.”

Magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti-Guwuriro postponed the matter to October 31.- Standard

Robbers Attack Catholic Church

IN a brazen robbery in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, robbers broke down a door at the residence of a Roman Catholic Church priest before getting away with cash.

The attack took place at the Roman Catholic Church in Emakhandeni suburb.

When B-Metro got to the scene of the robbery on Wednesday morning, plain clothed officers from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) were conducting investigations.

The house had been declared ‘a crime scene under investigation’ and this publication was asked to leave.

But we observed a broken-down door which appeared to have been chopped down with an axe or a sharp object.

Members of the church, who said they had come to console their priest upon hearing the news, could be seen milling around the church premises.

One of the congregants said the armed men demanded cash and got away with $25 000 from the sale of chickens.

“We run a chicken project here at the church and the only money the robbers could find was the cash from the sale of those chickens. We understand that they (robbers) kept demanding the keys to the safe but the priest doesn’t have one in his house,” said the church member.

Man( 33) Caught Having Sex With Grade Seven Pupil

A 33-year-old man from Maraposa Plot in Insuza, Matabeleland North province who was caught red-handed having sex with his teenage lover in the bush was arrested and dragged to court to answer charges of having sex with a minor.

It was gathered that Nqobani Ndlovu was busted during a bush sex romp with his teenage lover who is a Grade Seven pupil at one of the schools from the area.

It is alleged that Ndlovu had a tryst with the 15-year-old girl despite knowing that she was a minor.

Circumstances are that on 26 September at around 4pm Ndlovu met the victim while on her way from school and proposed love to her and she accepted his proposal.

It is reported that afterwards the two parties parted ways as they proceeded to their respective homes.

It is alleged that the following day at around 3pm, the victim who was on her way from school met Ndlovu who reportedly got hold of her hand and asked to have sex with her and she agreed.

Without wasting time, Ndlovu reportedly took the girl to a nearby bush. While in the bush, Ndlovu reportedly caressed and undressed the girl before having sex with her.

While in the act,Ndlovu was spotted by a passerby who then raised an alarm.

Seeing that they had been busted the two lovers fled from the scene but the passerby who had positively identified the girl went and notified her parents.

When she was confronted by her parents, the girl confessed that she was in love with Ndlovu and that they were busted having sex in the bush.

A report was made to the police leading to Ndlovu’s arrest and subsequent appearance in court.

Ndlovu was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to October 28.- B-Metro

Tunisia Face World Cup Ban ?

FIFA has reportedly threatened to ban Tunisia from the 2022 FIFA World Cup scheduled for Qatar next month.

The threat comes after the country’s sports minister Kamel Deguiche claimed that he is ready to dissolve federal offices in the nation, which could also affect the Football Association.

The Carthage Eagles are among the five African nations that will participate at the global tournament.

According to Goal, a local radio station Mosaique FM, has seen a leaked letter from FIFA in which the global football body asks the government to clarify the comments.

The letter points to “State authorities’ attempts to interfere in the Tunisian Federation’s internal affairs and its threats to dissolve FTF’s office”.

The letter continues: “In this regard, we would like to remind you that member associations of FIFA are legally obligated to conduct their affairs independently and without undue influence from third parties. Any failure to comply with these obligations may result in the imposition of penalties under the FIFA laws, including suspension of the relevant association.”

Tunisia are in Group D alongside Denmark, Australia and France.

Gyan Keen To Feature At World Cup 2022 ?

Former Black Stars skipper, Asamoah Gyan has ruled himself out of the upcoming 2022 World Cup.

The 36-year-old announced his intention to return to international football in Septemberq, having retired in 2019.

He featured at 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cup editions.

In an interview with Ghanaian television station, GHOne, Gyan has admitted that he is not fit to make a bold claim to be included in Ghana’s World Cup squad.

But has added that due to his experience and pedigree he will not turn down an opportunity to help the team if the technical handlers invite him.

“The World Cup is every footballer’s dream,” he said. “If I’m fit to play active football and I’m invited to play for the national team, why not. It’s not like 15 years ago when I was young and competitive and could argue to be in the starting line-up.

“This is a different thing together. Right now people want you to go in and show your experience. The thing is you just have to be fit and be ready for competitive football. If I’m fit and invited into the national team, why not? Every player will embrace such an opportunity. This is the case where I’m not ready now. If I’m not ready but the FA and staff feel they need me now, I will be available. That one is up to them,” he added.

The Black Stars will play Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay in Group H of the 2022 World Cup.-Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

What Is Self Harm ?

Mavaza Says: Geogenix Pomona Gives Hope To Dumpsite Families

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | OPINION | By sheer dint of necessity, the urban poor in Zimbabwe had invented an endless series of survival strategies to endure the high rate of unemployment and widespread poverty by engaging in occupations such as waste scavenging. Families have been sustained by rubbish slates generations have not seen their lives beyond the smelly heap of Pomona dumpsite, in that smelly confusion and settlement on squatter camps an unbelievable breath of fresh air swept across from the Geo Pomona Waste.

An opportunity of identifying a recycling skills from the scavenging people and a great creation of formal employment and providing Morden decent accommodation is a dimension Geo Pomona is bringing to the residents. Whilst the air is replete with evidence of the economic significance of this livelihood activity, there has been fierce criticism and demonising of this project by the opposition and independent councillors. Despite the fact that there has been scanty empirical work on its health implications the opposition against the cleaning of dumpsites is alarming and disturbing. Geo Pomona in its wisdom through the executive skills of Mr Delish Nguwaya the CEO and Executive Chairman has examined the health implications associated with the dumpsites and how to come out of rubbish without rubbish. Despite all the Rubbish being said about the rubbish Pomona is being transformed into a world class project generating energy from nothing.
The multi million investment deal to convert garbage at Harare’s main dumpsite at Pomona into a safe and inert form came to life and has been made a national project. The City of Harare officially handed over of the rubbish dump to Geo Pomona Waste Management Private Limited.
The deal involves the setting up of a modern rubbish processing plant that will generate a modest 22MW of electricity.
The project is projected to generate over 300 jobs while the structures are being built and boost economic growth.
Thousands more employment opportunities will be created after the structures are set.
The Pomona issue has been misrepresented for the benefit of those who suffer from a condition called antidisestablishmentarianism.
Despite being tormented by the press demonised and rubbished the Geo Pomona Waste Management Private Limited’s CEO Mr D Nguwaya under Geogenix BV, an international firm involved in dealing with garbage has literally created power from nothing light from darkness. While the power generation station at Pomona will be modest, the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority already has other small and medium private stations now ready to feed the grid.
In a joint statement signed by acting Harare town clerk Engineer Mabhena Moyo and Geo Pomona Waste Management Private Limited country representative Mr Dilesh Nguwaya and read during the site handover, both parties promised to work harmoniously. However the city fathers who are largely from the opposition CCC have fought viciously against the project without giving regards to the beneficiaries who are the city residents. Instead of thanking the Government for creating a conducive environment for attracting international investors into the energy sector, especially at a time power shortages were a daily challenge some people have created lies which are meant to rubbish the good project.
Pomona project is leaving no one behind and has set its eyes on vision 2030.

The Pomona project reveals how scavengers were exposed daily to a myriad life threatening health problems as they sift for recyclable products. Nguwaya accepted that given the economic implication of the enterprise, it is important that the residents benefit from intervention programs that can reduce the adverse health outcomes associated with their job and offer them job opportunities.

In the past few decades, the process of urbanization has accelerated mainly in cities coping with informal hyper growth. These cities are characterized by an economy heavily dependent on the informal sector and very extensive poverty but Zimbabwe government has supported and made a turning point in the predicament by nationalising the project for the best interest of its citizens.
The high concentration of people in the emerging urban centres in the developing world has two implications: it leads to increases in waste generation and also creates a large pool of unemployed and underemployed residents with few alternative means of earning a living.

World over, economic downturn led to the development and growth of the informal sector in response to the unemployment growth. Among the informal activities that have grown in significance in response to the massive urban unemployment is waste scavenging.

A waste scavenger is a person who salvages reusable or recyclable materials to sell or for personal consumption. Geo Pomona has taken this into account and is creating experts out of the usually downtrodden residents. Scavenging from the waste stream is an important economic activity that provides income for over 15 million people worldwide, most of whom are in cities in developing countries, and it has a financial impact of several billions of US- dollars every year. Geo Pomona is channelling all this into the mainstream economy.

The project benefits both the people and the investors. Waste scavenging is a popular informal activity which depends on the quantity and quality of waste generated by the population. The proliferation of waste scavengers on the streets and waste dumpsites in Zimbabwe since the early colonial time represents one of the most visible consequences of the deep economic crisis which Pomona is turning into a blessing.

The ECO Mr D Nguwaya and his team have examined the economic significance as an efficient livelihood strategy, and the participation of scavengers in recycling policies. Despite the burgeoning literature on this enterprise, scant attention has been paid to the health risks associated with it.

Meanwhile, these scavengers live and work in unhygienic conditions and the nature of their occupation exposes them to potentially pathogenic bio-aerosols that may lead to the spread of various diseases. No one stood up for these people the moment D Nguwaya and Pomona lift a hand the noise is killing. The abundance of fleas and offensive odours in waste disposal sites, along with the lack of proper protective devices, make the working conditions even more precarious.

Scavengers collect plastics, paper, glass bottles, rubber materials, and ferrous and non-ferrous metals from dump sites, which can be risky as they are exposed to various infectious agents and toxic substances that may cause illness. In addition, they face social abuse from certain elements of society, which may lead to social problems. Yet nobody saw it only to make noise when development is introduced. If Pomona Project is not allowed to move on to overcome the hazards of the job, a greater majority will take to substance abuse such as smoking and alcoholism.

As a nation we must unite with Pomona and enjoy the development.

“ED Gvt Worse Than Rhodesia”: Mliswa

By A Correspondent- Outspoken Norton legislator Temba Mliswa (Independent) has said the Zimbabwean government is behaving worse than the Rhodesian regime which allowed relatives and colleagues of political prisoners to visit them in jail.

Mliswa made the remarks after CCC leader Nelson Chamisa was on Thursday barred from seeing jailed Zengesa West MP Job Sikhala and his Chitungwiza North counterpart Godfrey Sithole as well as 14 other CCC activists who are in pre-trial detention at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison. Said Mliswa:

The blocking of Nelson Chamisa from meeting with Sikhala and others is most unfortunate. We don’t expect such in a liberated country.

Our own liberation fighters when imprisoned by the Rhodesians were allowed visitor.

Why do we have to go so low? We can’t be worse than Rhodesia.

Chamisa told reporters on Thursday that he was made to wait at the jail for more than two hours before the officer in charge, one Hukurume, informed him that he had been instructed by Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi that he (Chamisa) will not be allowed to see Sikhala and the other CCC activists.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet (Presidential Communications), George Charamba, said Chamisa should visit his colleagues at their next court appearance.

Man Hauled To Court Over Intercourse With Grade 7 Pupil

By A Correspondent- A 33-year-old man from Maraposa Plot in Matabeleland North province was arrested and taken to court for having sexual intercourse with his grade 7 lover aged 15.

The court heard that Nqobani Ndlovu was caught during a bush sex romp with his teenage lover who is a Grade Seven pupil at one of the schools from the area, according to B-Metro.

What Happened:

It is alleged that on 26 September at around 4 pm Ndlovu met the victim while on her way from school and proposed love to her and she accepted his proposal.

It is reported that afterwards, the two parties parted ways as they proceeded to their respective homes.

is alleged that the following day at around 3 pm, the victim on her way from school met Ndlovu, who reportedly got hold of her hand and asked to have sex with her and agreed.

Without wasting time, Ndlovu reportedly took the girl to a nearby bush and they had sex.

While in the act, Ndlovu was spotted by a passerby who then raised the alarm.

Seeing that they had been seen the two lovers fled from the scene but the passerby who had positively identified the girl went and notified her parents.

When she was confronted by her parents, the girl confessed that she was in love with Ndlovu and that they were caught having sex in the bush.

A report was made to the police leading to Ndlovu’s arrest and subsequent appearance in court.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody until October 28.

What The Laws Say:

Having sexual intercourse with minors is prohibited since the minimum age of marriage is 18 years for both girls and boys.

Byo Woman Jailed For Murder

By A Correspondent- A Bulawayo woman has been sentenced to serve a 25-year jail term at Chikurubi Female Prison in Harare after being convicted of murdering her husband on March 2, 2018.

Nomzamo Luhle Dube (34) of Pumula South in Bulawayo claimed that she stabbed her husband, Martin Luther Jabulani Ncube, with a kitchen knife after he arrived home late after a beer drink.

Speaking during an interview at Chikurubi Female Prison, Dube said her late husband reportedly arrived home at around 1 am and knocked on their door.

She claimed that when she woke up and opened the door, her late husband started assaulting her accusing her of delaying opening the door. Dube added:

He kicked me all over the body during which he tripped and fell and at that point he picked a knife which was on the floor and tried to stab me.

Dube said she managed to take the knife from her husband and accidentally stabbed him in the chest.

This was contrary to what her daughter had told the court, resulting in her conviction of murder.

Her minor

minor daughter gave the court a detailed testimony of how her mother incessantly attacked her stepfather, the now-deceased Martin, before she stabbed him as he pleaded for mercy.

She told the court that her mother later instructed her to open the door and when the deceased walked in, an altercation ensued between the two. The daughter told the court during trial:

My mother refused to open the door and he persistently pleaded with her to open, but she remained adamant.

When dad walked in, my mother immediately shouted at him before they went to the bedroom. I followed them and witnessed my mother indiscriminately punching dad on the face as he continuously pleaded with her to stop.

Throughout the scuffle, my dad never retaliated, but only pushed my mother resulting in her hitting against a wardrobe.

Dube was convicted of murder with actual intent by Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Maxwell Takuva and sentenced to 25 years in jail.

Death sentence:

The Constitution says those convicted of murder can be given a death sentence but women are protected from the sentence.

Explaining this situation, Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi saidduring public consultations and a referendum, an overwhelming majority of people voted for retaining the death penalty. He added:

Resultantly, section 48 (2) of the Constitution permits the sentencing of men between the ages of 21 and 70 years if they are convicted of murder committed in aggravating circumstances.

Twitter Executives Shown The Door

By A Correspondent- Elon Musk fired Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal along with three other top executives including legal executive Vijaya Gadde as soon as he acquired the microblogging site.

Reports claimed that Musk is apparently running a cleaning drive at Twitter and earlier there were reports which said that Musk may fire up to 75% of Twitter’s staff.

CEO of electric car maker Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) and self-described free speech absolutist also fired Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal, according to people familiar with the matter.

He had accused them of misleading him and Twitter investors over the number of fake accounts on the platform.

The former U.S. president previously said he won’t return to the platform and has instead launched his own social media app, Truth Social.

13yr Old Writes Grade 7 Exam On Labor Bed

By A Correspondent- A 13-year-old pupil at Chinotimba Primary School in Victoria Falls had to write part of her ZIMSEC Grade Seven general examinations on a hospital bed soon after giving birth last month.

The learner was heavily pregnant when she sat for her first paper before going into labour that same afternoon.

She wrote four papers at the Victoria Falls Hospital maternity ward ignoring labour pains.

teenage mother met Thumelani Sibanda in January this year, an 18-year-old assistant builder who was working at a house next door and the two started dating.

She only discovered she was pregnant in August when her maternal aunt noticed abnormal changes in her body.

Her mother then informed the school authorities who advised that she could do extra lessons at home and only come to school to write the examinations. Said the teen mother:

I was okay when I went to write my first paper on a Monday but other learners kept looking at me.

I left school going home after the exam and along the way, I started feeling pain.

When I got home I just lay down on the floor as the pain increased.

My aunt called a neighbour and they rushed me to hospital where I was taken to theatre for an operation.

I gave birth and I was so happy when I saw my baby which was 2.8kg.

A room was then set up for her where teachers came to invigilate her while nurses took care of the baby.

She was admitted to the hospital between Tuesday and Friday and wrote all the week’s papers there.

Her family said they met Sibanda’s family who pleaded for their son not to be reported to the police.

In Zimbabwe, it is a criminal offence to have sexual relations with a minor.

Augur Investments Sets The Record Straight On False Allegations

By A Correspondent- Augur Investments OU has set the record straight on claims by CCC VP Tendai Biti that the property company was fraudulent and had not complied with the country’ s company registration processes.

In a statement, the company said is important to highlight that the firm had complied with the laws of Zimbabwe and any regulatory processes were duly followed.

Said Augur Investments OU:
“It is important that Mr Biti is put to the strictest of proof to substantiate his baseless utterances.

It is untrue for anyone to allege that Augur Investments OU was not registered or licensed to operate in Zimbabwe. The Minister of Justice approved the registration of Augur Investment as a foreign company to operate in Zimbabwe as per Section 330 of the then Companies Act Chapter 24:14 and a certificate to that effect was issued in 2009 and 2012 respectively. Augur Investments is duly authorised to operate in Zimbabwe as evidenced by a Certificate of Registration as a Foreign Company issued by the Registrar of Companies on the 3rd of May 2010.”

We publish below the full text of the statement:

MATTER OF FACTS

Following the circulation of recent statements by Mr Biti concerning Augur Investments and its operations in Zimbabwe, we wish to set the record straight and correct any such ludicrous claims by Mr Biti.

The relationship between Augur Investments OU and the City of Harare dates back to 2007 with the common and shared vision for the development of the City of Harare and in particular the upgrading of the Joshua Mqabuko NkomoExpressway (Airport Highway Road). The major highlights of the events leading to the projects are shown below:

▪ A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Augur Investments OU and the City of Harare in June 2007 and consequently a Shareholders Agreement was signed between Augur Investments OU and City of Harare in September 2007.

▪ The initial request from the City of Harare was for the construction of the Airport Highway through the Mukuvisi Corridor, from Dieppe Road to Enterprise Road, be part of the Joint Venture project.  However it was established that the ownership of the Highway would then become the property of Sunshine Developments P/L which was not possible as well as the estimated cost being too great for the Joint Venture.

▪ Subsequently in February 2008, in negotiations with the City of Harare, Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Local Government, Augur was invited to finance, design and construct the Airport Highway in its entirety, from the Harare Main Airport to Enterprise Road.  Such special relationship was sanctioned by Council through its Resolution of 29th May 2008 and Council resolved to pay Augur Investments OU through transfer with suitable land for the works done on the Airport Road Highway construction.

▪ Presidential and Cabinet approval was granted and presentations were made in March and April 2008, highlighting Sunshine Developments P/L, Joint Venture projects as well as the Airport Highway Route.

▪ The Airport Highway Memorandum of Understanding and subsequent Memorandum of Agreement were signed in May and June 2008 respectively.

▪ The Zimbabwe Investment Authority (ZIA) on 29 August 2008 had approved the Sunshine Developments Pvt Ltd JV entity between Augur Investments and City of Harare under certificate number 000334.

It is thus untrue for Mr Biti or anyone to assert that the Airport Road Contract was an illegality as the Road project was sanctioned by both City of Harare and the Government of Zimbabwe which on the 5th of May 2009, the Permanent Secretary of Local Government, Rural & Urban Development wrote to advise Augur that Cabinet had granted National Project Status for the Airport Highway Project. Hence the project was endorsed by both Council and the Government in which Mr Biti was serving at that material time as the Minister of Finance. In any particular country, Zimbabwe included there is nothing illegal for City Council and government to collaborate with private business players in the development of the country.

It is important to highlight that in 2009, Augur Investments OU sought the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s authority to acquire 100% shareholding in its Zimbabwean subsidiaries and such authority was granted in 2009 by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe. The RBZ wrote to Augur that:

We write to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 03 September, 2009 and advise that Exchange Control is agreeable to the applicant acquiring 100 percent of west Property Company and 100 percent share of shelf companies”.

It is important to highlight that Augur Investments OU has complied with the laws of Zimbabwe and any regulatory processes have been duly followed and Mr Biti is put to the strictest of proof to substantiate his baseless utterances.

It is untrue for anyone to allege that Augur was not registeredor licensed to operate in Zimbabwe. The Minister of Justice approved the registration of Augur Investment as a foreign company to operate in Zimbabwe as per Section 330 of the then Companies Act Chapter 24:14 and a certificate to that effect was issued in 2009 and 2012 respectively.

Augur Investments is duly authorised to operate in Zimbabwe as evidenced by a Certificate of Registration as a Foreign Company issued by the Registrar of Companies on the 3rd of May 2010.

We refute claims that our payments of land by the City of Harare were fraudulent. Once Augur completed the works on the road, Interim Payment Certificates were duly generated and submitted for assessment through an agreed independent engineering evaluator for assessment. Once such assessments were done, such IPC was then sent to the City of Harare for payment of the prorate portion of the land.  Proof of such interim payment certificates exists both with the Council and with Government departments.

Hence it is malicious and false to allege that we acquired the land illegally. In simple terms, we were paid for the works that we duly completed.

It is within the public realm that Government cancelled the Airport Road Highway contract and we litigated the matter and we managed to amicably resolve the matters through a Deed of Settlement that was subsequently registered into an order of the Supreme Court under SC878/19 and as a High Court Order under HC4528/19. It is normal practice for parties in litigation to settle and such settlements are accepted by the Courts.

Hence there exists no basis for anyone to allege that the settlement was an illegality when such settlement was done with the blessing and full consent of the parties in litigation.

Whilst Mr Biti would want to create sensational stories without basis, we reiterate that our developments are fully compliant with the Environmental and urban Planning Laws. The Environmental Management Agency granted the environmental impact assessment certificate in 2012 for the development of the Borrowdale West Millennium Park to develop shops, housing, medical centre and related infrastructure.

All other developments currently being carried out by the company have EIA certificates and are in compliance with environmental and town planning laws statutes.

While malicious attempts have been made by Mr Biti to divest control of our properties through numerous litigation challenging our title to our Pomona Land, the matter has been litigated to its natural conclusion by the Supreme Court in Allan Markharm v Augur Investments Case Number SC 229/22 wherein Mr Biti’s clients lost the matter and were ordered to pay costs of suit to us. The High Court under HC 425/21 had ruled in our favour as well. Hence there exists no basis for anyone to challenge our title to our Pomona land as it was paid to us for work done on the Airport Highway Project.

We reiterate that the land that we legally acquired is being improved through provision of on and offsite infrastructure such as roads, water, wastewater and storm water drains. The people who have for long not been able to access serviced land are now getting value added land for residential and commercial developments.

In this regard, we are contributing significantly to the infrastructural development of Zimbabwe and the developed land will serve generations to come and ensure that our people enjoying maximum benefits through such infrastructural development.

We remain committed to partnering with both Council, Government and other key private players in developing land for our people and ensuring that we help create sustainable communities where our people can work, live, play and shop.

Zanu Allows Mwonzora To Visit Sikhala, Blocks Chamisa

By-Zanu PF government recently allowed MDC-T President Douglas Mwonzora to visit the detained CCC deputy chairman, Job Sikhala but denied CCC President Nelson Chamisa to do the same.

Chamisa was held Thursday by Chikurubi correctional officers for three hours before they blocked him from seeing Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole.

Sikhala and the other party activists from the Nyatsime area are detained at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison.
The directive to block Chamisa came from Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi.

Speaking to reporters, Chamisa said prison authorities said they had received instructions from Ziyambi to bar him from seeing Sikhala and the other CCC activists. Said Chamisa:
It’s so disheartening to know that just after we had been made to wait for three hours, we were then told that we can now enter to be able to see our colleagues.
We were then invited to the office of the Officer in Charge of prisons Mr. Hukurume. He indicated to us that it is unfortunate that we are not able to see Honourable Job Sikhala and the other Nyatsime colleagues, our citizen heroes because the Minister of Justice has instructed that we can’t see them.
We were surprised because they had made us wait for almost two, three hours. You can bear witness and testimony to that.
But all of a sudden they said they had received an instruction that you cannot see all your colleagues. So we are not able to see them.
It is an embarrassment, it is harassment, and it is unacceptable that we have this kind of abuse of the law.
Last week, the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPSC) said Chamisa was free to visit his colleagues at Chikurubi, and today’s events came as a surprise to the opposition leader.

Chamisa Humiliated

By-Prison officials at Chikurubi prison Thursday held CCC President Nelson Chamisa for three hours before blocking him from seeing MPs Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole.

Last week, the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPSC) said Chamisa was free to visit his colleagues at Chikurubi, and today’s events came as a surprise to the opposition leader.
MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora was recently given permission by ZPCS to visit Sikhala and Sithole but the duo allegedly refused to meet him.
Sikhala, Sithole, and the other 14 CCC activists from Nyatsime have been in pre-trial detention since June on charges ranging from inciting violence to public violence.

Nick Mangwana: Nothing Wrong With Civil Servants Wasting Work Time At ZANU PF Congress

…Information perm sec Nick Mangwana said there was nothing wrong with civil servants spending work time at the ruling party congress

Nick Mangwana

The Zanu PF elective congress, which kicked off in Harare on Thursday and ends today, has virtually grounded government business as all Cabinet ministers, secretaries, heads of department and parastatals have been railroaded to the indaba.

Notable faces at the ruling party extravaganza yesterday included Civil Service Commission chairperson Vincent Hungwe, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Misheck Sibanda, directors and parastatal heads, among others.

Information permanent secretary Ndavaningi Mangwana yesterday said there was nothing wrong with civil servants spending work time at the ruling party congress.

“They have been invited to the congress of a political party to help us understand their policy thrusts which we have to implement in government,” Mangwana said.

In his address, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is also the party’s first secretary, said Zanu PF’s campaign machinery was now ready to roll with all mobilisation resources already in place.

“Zanu PF is ready. Our systems are oiled. Election materials and resources are in place to mount a roaring campaign for a thunderous victory of our party. The people’s revolution is ongoing and unstoppable,” Mnangagwa said.

“Collectively as delegates at this congress, we pronounce our party’s readiness to yet again win another mandate to govern our beloved motherland.”

Mnangagwa has been endorsed as Zanu PF’s sole presidential candidate.

He will likely square off with opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa, whom he narrowly beat in the 2018 disputed elections.

A number of other opposition leaders, including those representing fringe political parties, are also eyeing the presidency.

But Mnangagwa vowed that Zanu PF “will continue to rule the land of our forefathers”.

He also told delegates that the party’s constitution would be amended to align it with the new socio-economic and political realities.

“The amendments to the party constitution which will be tabled at this congress are reflective of the new socio-economic and political realities,” Mnangagwa said.

“These must further enhance efficiency and synergies in the implementation of the party mandate, resolutions, policies and programmes, this is in line with the democratic principles, constitutionalism and the rule of law that anchor our party.”

His deputy Constantino Chiwenga rubbished speculative reports that he was angling to challenge Mnangagwa at the congress, saying: “He is the only leader we know. He deserves another opportunity to lead us. He has everything needed to lead us. We wish many more years for our leader and that God grants him more wisdom. His works have surpassed our expectations.”

Mnangagwa’s ascendancy to the Zanu PF leadership in 2017 is, however, being challenged in the High Court by former party youth member Sybeth Musengezi, who claims it was unprocedural.–

What Is Stopping Mnangagwa And Chamisa From The Cyril-Malema’s Lesotho Gesture?

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and opposition Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Commander In Charge, Julius Malema were pictured having a good conversation and laughing together in Lesotho in what many Zimbabweans felt was the missing link in our country politics.

President Chamisa, Mnangagwa Clash In 10 By-elections

By James Gwati- The recent recalls by the MDC-T President Douglas Mwonzora of CCC councillors has created several by-elections.

These by-elections will be held to fill local government vacancies in Binga, Gweru and Victoria Falls.

In a notice, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) chief elections officer Utoile Silaigwana said the by-elections would be held on 3 December.

He said six wards were vacant in Binga, three in Gweru, and one in Victoria Falls.

 Said Silaigwana:

In relation to the election of the councillors for the said wards, nomination courts shall sit on Thursday, 3 November 2022, commencing from 10 AM to 4 PM at the offices of the chief executive officer for Binga Rural District Council, for the purposes of receiving nominations of candidates for election as councillors for the vacant wards 6, 8, 10, 15, 20 and 23 and the offices of the town clerk for Gweru Municipality, Gweru, for purposes of receiving nominations of candidates for election as councillors for the vacant wards 4, 5 and 18.

The offices of the town clerk for Victoria Falls Municipality, Victoria Falls, for purposes of receiving nominations for candidates for elections as councillor for the vacant ward 8 of Victoria Falls Municipality.

These are likely to be the last by-elections ahead of the 2023 general elections as ZEC recently announced that any vacancy that arises on or after 1 November will not be filled through a by-election.

Mwonzora’s MDC-T has not participated in by-elections since its candidates failed to win a single seat during the 26 March by-elections. | VicFallsLive

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has hailed the Zimbabwe national cricket team for posting a crucial victory over mighty Pakistan.

The Chevrons beat Pakistan by one run at the Perth Stadium in a Super 12 Group 2 match on Thursday.

President Chamisa has described the Chevrons’ victory as the nation’s pride.

“Congratulations Chevrons @ZimCricketv on the win.

You make us proud. You reminded us how special it is to be Zimbabwean. Thank you for igniting that sparkle. No doubt, we are a great and a formidable sporting nation.

Sport is support. ZIMBABWE will be untouchable in every sport.”

Plan To Replace ED With Chiwenga Flops

The plan to replace Emmerson Mnangagwa with his deputy Comstanibo Chiwenga, has flopped with 7th Zanu-PF National People’s Congress unanimously endorsing Emmerson Mnangagwa as the ruling party’s President and First Secretary as well as sole presidential candidate ahead of next year’s harmonised elections.

The National People’s Congress, the supreme policy-making organ of the party which meets after every five years to elect new leadership, endorsed the President according to Article 5 Section 24 of the party constitution.

Zanu-PF National Chair Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri presided over the meeting during which President Mnangagwa tabled the previous Central Committee report for adoption by members.

Addressing delegates during the meeting, Zanu-PF Vice-President and Second Secretary Cde Constantino Chiwenga said all party organs and affiliates were backing the leadership of Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“While this Congress is supposed to be an elective one, the party membership, through its structures and organs had already clearly and thunderously endorsed Emmerson Mnangagwa as the President and First Secretary and sole presidential candidate of the ruling party Zanu-PF in the 2023 harmonised elections,” he said.

VP Chiwenga said the title “ED” should now mean “Emmerson Delivers” because the President has been delivering on his electoral pledges.

“The illustrious work he has done in the last five years guarantees him a thunderous victory in the 2023 harmonised elections.

“Over a very short space of time he has surpassed our expectations. May he continue to lead and guide us in the next term,” he said.

Zanu-PF Secretary for Administration Dr Obert Mpofu said the Congress was held according to Article 5, Section 23 of the party’s constitution which provides that there shall be a National People’s Congress which shall be the supreme organ of the party.

Party leadership and members were on cloud nine over the endorsement of President Mnangagwa.

Zanu-PF provincial chair for Mashonaland WestMary Mliswa-Chikoka said the endorsement of President Mnangagwa was well-deserved.

“I am so delighted that as Zanu-PF we have endorsed the President as our sole candidate for the presidential elections. Also that we endorsed him as the First Secretary and President of the party Zanu-PF.

“The endorsement is due to his good works that everyone is witnessing. It is only right that we did that, who else was capable except for our father President Mnangagwa,” she said.

Zanu-PF Harare Province Youth League Deputy spokesperson Denzel Romol said the endorsement of Mnabgagwa is the best thing to happen to the party and country at large.

“Surely one good term deserves another. Dr Mnangagwa is a tried and tested leader. Since his assumption of the reins of power, he has proved beyond a shadow of doubt that he walks the talk hence we need him as our captain.

“History will judge us right, so will future generations of the entire African Continent. This endorsement is that which will bring to reality our noble Vision 2030 way sooner than the actual target date,” he said.

A party member from Matabeleland North, Nothando Dube, said the endorsement of President Mnangagwa was a sign of faith.

“It is clear that people are benefiting from the good policies being initiated by Emmerson Mnangagwa which are leaving no one and no place behind.

“It is now left for us members to support him so that we garner enough votes for a resounding victory in the coming elections,” she said.

A party member from Mhondoro Ngezi, Looklife Zvarevashe, said it is the President’s good works that have seen him being retained.-state media

Woman Bashes Hubby’s Girlfriend At Court

A Mutare woman was yesterday arrested at Mutare Civil Court after slapping her husband’s alleged lover who was applying for a peace order against her.

The peace order was granted and later Mukasi was arrested and taken to Mutare Central Police station.

Mukasi came back home unannounced and found the two lovebirds cohabiting at her matrimonial home.

When I became aware of it, I stepped aside but still after that Mukasi is in the habit of harassing and assaulting me like she has just done, said a sobbing Kamangira.- Masvingo Mirror

Kaizer Chiefs star Keegan Dolly believes Khama Billiat still has a lot to offer in the Amakhosi shirt despite a slow start to the season.

Billiat is yet to open his scoring account for the Soweto giants this season, a setback which has resulted in renewed criticism for the Mufakose-raised winger.

Dolly though, believes Billiat can still rediscover his form for the Glamour Boys due to the experience the Aces Youth Academy graduate has.

“I think with Khama [Billiat] he’s been long in the game he’s experienced,” Dolly told the media at the Soweto derby presser in Johannesburg.

He has experienced times like this [before] where he was struggling to score goals for the club.

“I think he came out on top all the time, we all know Khama Billiat is a quality player. We all know his strengths. I think it’s just going to take one game and one goal that’s going to change this,” added the Bafana Bafana star.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Robbers Pounce On Church

More to follow……this is a developing story

Prison Guards Humiliate Chamisa

By-CCC President Nelson Chamisa was Thursday held for three hours by correctional officers at Chikurubi maximum security prison before they blocked him from seeing MPs Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole.

Gunman Shot At Russian Embassy

By- Police have confirmed a shooting incident at the Russian Embassy in Harare on Wednesday night.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the shooting victim is 24 years old.

He added that the suspect was injured and is currently admitted at a local hospital. Said Nyathi:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that investigations are being conducted in connection with a shooting incident that occurred at the Russian Embassy last night, 26th October 2022 at 1920 hours.

A 24-year-old suspect was injured and is currently admitted at a local hospital. More details will be released in due course.

Earlier, Nyathi told The Herald that the man was shot after he approached a policeman who was on duty manning the premises.

He added that the suspect was taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital for treatment and police were investigating the incident to establish the motive behind the shooting and also to find out why the man had approached the policeman.

Meanwhile, ZimLive reported a source as saying that the man was wearing a Zimbabwe army uniform. Said the source:

Everyone was saying he is a soldier. Security staff at the embassy didn’t know him, he certainly doesn’t work there.

Chamisa Speaks On Strategies To Remove Mnangagwa

By- Opposition, CCC president Nelson Chamisa said he was not too soft on Zanu PF and was strategising to lawfully remove Zanu PF from power.

Former ZANU PF youth league political commissar Godfrey Tsenengamu, who now leads his own party, recently said Chamisa lacks the political clout to dislodge ZANU PF.

But addressing reporters on Thursday at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison where he intended to visit jailed legislators, Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole, as well as the “Nyatsime 14”, Chamisa said his party was aware that it is dealing with an oppressive system. He said:

Zimbabwe is a difficult place, I have been listening to people who say ‘no you are being soft’, we know what we are dealing with.

These guys are very determined to go to the full lengths to be very oppressive, but we are also equally determined and I can tell you that the citizens are totally committed and we are very clear about the change that is going to come.

Chamisa claimed ZANU PF has resorted to violence because it is scared of “imminent” defeat. He said:

We have gone into the countryside and there is massive support, that is why they are panicking. They know that defeat is imminent.

You cannot be violent while you have support, you are only violent when you are on your way out. That is the character and conduct of the defeated and losers.

Zimbabwe is scheduled to hold general elections in July or August 2023 but there has been an escalation of politically-motivated violence across the country since the launch of CCC early this year. | NewZimbabwe.com

Harare Student Dupes Lover, Fakes Death

By- A female student at Morgan Zintec Teachers College in Harare allegedly faked her death in a bid to fool her lover.

Pictures of the student, only identified as Shantel, seemingly dead and covered halfway with a blanket, accompanied by the fake death message emerged prompting her grieving college mates to open a WhatsApp condolence group.

However, one of Shantel’s friends disclosed that she was still alive though her whereabouts were not revealed.

Morgan Zintec principal, Tonderai Zenda, told H-Metro the message disturbed a number of students, who were writing their examinations. Said Zenda:

Shantel is one of our bridging course students. She was supposed to be among students sitting for final examinations, but she missed some of the sittings.

We heard a rumour about her death but later learnt that she is alive.

She has not been here since the rumour went around and we are also keen to know from her what happened. It disturbed some students.

A close relative of Shantel said pictures circulating on social media were taken two years ago adding that she is still alive.

H-Metro reported sources as saying Shantel faked her death after she had directed her lover to some people to pay lobola money.

After the lover paid the bride price, Shantel was reported to have devised a plan to fake her own death.

Some people were reportedly hired to act as Shantel’s relatives during the lobola ceremony.

The lover was fooled to believe he was communicating with Shantel’s mother about the death.

Mwonzora Sells Out Again

By James Gwati- The recent recalls by the MDC-T President Douglas Mwonzora of CCC councillors has created several by-elections to be held this December.

Biti Rubbishes De-dollarization

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC vice president Hon Tendai Biti has pointed out that Zimbabwe’s monthly inflation is now pegged at 500%.

According to Hon Biti, the de-dollarization has failed dismally.

Hon Biti was the Finance Minister during the GNU era.

“In our view the de-dollarization experiment has failed. The Zim $ must be floated to remove any dollarization bottlenecks. The auction must be jettisoned ,the interest rate cut& Export Surrenders removed .There must be reform of banking sector&savings regime .In short ZANU must go.

Official October inflation sits at 269% but in reality it’s well above 500% Meanwhile US$ on the parallel market is appreciating towards $1000 &some BIG shops & products are on this rate The heavy handed measures to extract stabilization have failed .You can’t rig the economy.

Despite high inflation output & aggregate demand are contracting . In the retail sector demand has shrunk by 30 % . High Bank Charges now contributing 79% of Bank income &the 200 % base rate are pushing the economy into a recession.Regime does not care&lacks capacity for reforms,” Hon Biti argued.
