Explosion Kills Welder

By A Correspondent- A man was killed instantly when a fuel tanker trailer belonging to Segment of Glory Energy he was welding exploded along Sherwood Crescent in Waterfalls in Harare on Monday.

Eyewitnesses told The Herald that the welder was on top of the trailer while sealing a leak that had developed on the tanker.

The body was removed from the scene but workers at the depot continued with business.

The workers referred all the questions to their employee Justice Madzimure who expressed ignorance over the issue.

Madzimure said he was not the owner of the haulage company.

An eyewitness who refused to be named said they heard an explosive sound coming out of the depot and then saw the body of the welder lying in the yard of the next depot where it was thrown. Said the eyewitness:

The man was on top of the fuel tank trailer welding it and everything seemed to be going on well.

He asked if the sadza I was cooking was ready so that he could come and buy it when he was done.

Moments later we were terrified by the explosive sound of the fuel tanker. The man was thrown into this yard (next depot) where he died instantly.

When the fuel tanker trailer exploded some people ran away because they thought it was a bomb, but after the explosion, some came back to see what had transpired.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson assistant commissioner Paul Nyathi said he was yet to receive a report from police officers who attended the scene.

Chamisa Aides Ejected From Elections Meeting

By-Two CCC Gweru councillors have been ejected from a Gweru council election meeting.

The last Tuesday’s meeting controversially elected MDC-T councillor Edson Kurebgaseka to the deputy mayor’s post in Gweru.

The two CCC councillors were ejected from the meeting for alleged improper dressing.

Ironically, there were MDC-T councillors in the meeting who were wearing sandals but were left in the meeting, reported The Mirror.

Kurebgaseka was elected during a special council meeting held last Tuesday to replace the recently recalled deputy mayor Cleopas Shiri.

Shiri who was elected in 2018 on an MDC Alliance ticket then led by Nelson Chamisa, was recalled by MDC T leader, Douglas Mwonzora together with two other Gweru councillors, Martin Chivhoko and John Manyundwa for being aligned to CCC.

Kurebgaseka polled 8 votes against his CCC rival and Ward 12 Councillor Jefta Zvidzai who garnered 4 votes.

Two councillors, former Gweru Mayor Josiah Makombe and Ward 6 Councillor Godfrey Giwa were forced out of the meeting on allegations that they were wearing round-collar t-shirts.

Meanwhile, by-elections will be held on Saturday 3 December 2022 to fill the vacancies left by the recalled councillors.

SasaiRemit rewards its customers, launches consumer promotion for sending money from SA to Zimbabwe

Johannesburg, South Africa, 2 November 2022 –  SasaiRemit, one of Africa’s leading digital money transfer providers and a business of Cassava Technologies, a leading pan-African technology group, has introduced an exciting consumer promotion.

The promotion, called “Thatha amathousand”, affords thousands of its existing and new customers in South Africa an opportunity to win thousands of Rand worth of grocery vouchers by merely sending a minimum of the equivalent of US$50 from South Africa, to their loved ones in Zimbabwe.

Mutsa Sibanda, SasaiRemit COO, said, “We are seeing a progressive, exponential increase in remittance inflows from South Africa to Zimbabwe, estimated to be more than R6 billion this year. This growth underscores not only the importance remittances currently have in supporting the Zimbabwean economy, being one of the most important sources of foreign currency inflows, but also their effect in providing relief to millions of Zimbabweans.

“They rely on these funds daily to meet their needs, for sustenance, shelter, education, and healthcare. Despite this, more than 50% of these funds are remitted via informal channels, which presents a security risk for the sender and receiver of the funds. Therefore, this promotion is designed to inspire confidence in thousands of customers that Sasai Remit is committed to providing a safer, more accessible and affordable platform to send money home to their loved ones,” said Mr Sibanda.

He went on to say: “The customer is at the heart of our operation, and this initiative further accentuates the company’s long-standing commitment to building trust as well as giving back to its customers who have faced a particularly challenging year in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic with a chance of unlocking grocery vouchers worth thousands of Rand for sending money to Zimbabwe.”

Mr Sibanda said in doing this, SasaiRemit had joined forces with its payment channel partners, that include – Pick’nPay, Shoprite, PEP, Makro, Game, Checkers, Jumbo , Ackermans, Boxer, Builders, and Cambridge, from where customers would also redeem their grocery vouchers.

“In addition, the SasaiRemit beneficiaries in Zimbabwe stand a chance of winning  US$50 grocery vouchers when they collect their remittances at any Econet shops , EcoCash outlets or Steward Bank branches. ,” he added.

The two-month-long promotion runs from 27 October to 26 December 2022, where hundreds of vouchers will be won every week.

The voucher winners will be published weekly on SasaiRemit’s social media platforms.

Dzvukamanja is yet to reach the top mark since arriving at the club in 2020.

He has featured once this term and was kept on the sidelines in the initial stages of the season due to an injury.

The arrival of new coach Jose Riveiro hasn’t helped and according to The Citizen newspaper, the club is ready to release him.

“I think it’s safe to say his time with the club has came to an end. It doesn’t seem like anything is going to change because he doesn’t even make match-day squad,” an unnamed source told the publication.

The source also claimed that Dzvukamanja has even realised that his time with the club is over and he is ready to make a move.

“Things are not going so well for him and he has started seeing that now because a lot of things you see at training. He is no longer being seen as an important player. He is one of those players who seem like they just make up numbers in the squad and are just helping regular guys to train,” added the insider.

SACU Head Lies In Front Of The Whole World That No Journalist Has Been Arrested In Zim Since ED Took Over

A government official has misrepresented to the 73rd session of the African Commission on Human Rights (ACHR) that no journalist has been arrested since President Emmerson Mnangagwa took over power in 2017.

Thabani Mpofu who heads the Special Anti-Corruption Unit stationed in Mnangagwa’s office was responding to a presentation by the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), which has observer status at the sessions.

ZLHR had given an analysis of the human rights situation in Zimbabwe, citing examples, dropping names and giving evidence. “There is not one journalist that has been arrested, harassed or has had their property confiscated by the State for carrying out the profession of journalism. This is independently verifiable,” said the official. Tens of journalists have been arrested since Mnangagwa took over.

Covid-19 restrictions announced as a means of curbing the spread of the virus, were also used as excuses to harass, arrest and detain journalists as happened to Mary Taruvinga and The Courier Editor Gilbert Munetsi. Others like NewZimbabwe.com Chief Correspondent Leopold Munhende and 263Chat photojournalist Munashe Chokodza had to seek medical assistance after being beaten by members of the military.

Voice of America’s Studio 7 journalist Nunurai Jena was arrested by police in Chinhoyi for filming a roadblock where corrupt officers were allowing residents to freely pass enroute to town despite the national Covid 19 lockdown. He was later acquitted by the courts. Other journalists have had to spend days in remand while much recently HStv’s Blessed Mhlanga and Chengeto Chidi were at the receiving end.

The government official went on to rubbish Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) acting Deputy Chairperson, Job Sikhala’s imprisonement, arguing it was above board as he had incited violence. Sikhala was arrested a few weeks after the murder of CCC activist, Moreblessing Ali by a Zanu PF supporter for engaging in voter registration campaigns im Nyatsime, Chitungwiza.

He added: “You have been provided with names, one being Job Sikhala who is said to have been arrested for criticising government. The matter of Sikhala is in the courts and the records in court are verifiable, he most certainly was not arrested for criticising government otherwise hundreds of thousands will be in prison because in Zimbabwe people can criticise government freely as daily newspapers there can attest to. “Sikhala was arrested for inciting violence in clear and unambiguous language and his matter is before the courts.”

Sikhala, Sithole Complain Over Mwonzora Visit, Chamisa Ban

Through their lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa, incarcerated legislators Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole have complained to the Harare Magistrates courts that Prison officials were imposing visitors on them.

This was revealed by Sikhala’s spokesperson Freddy Masarirevhu who said Mtetwa mentioned MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora who visited the two against their will.

“Mtetwa said one such visit was of Senator Mwonzora. She told the Court that he went there uninvited and was told by accused that they didn’t want to see him.

“ZPCS even made special arrangemets despite protest. On the Contrary, genuine visitors including CCC leader Nelson Chamisa , the wives and their spokesperson.

“Mtetwa also said she was denied access together with a Doctor. She argued that this is a violation of the Constitution,” said Masarirevhu.

Under Fire ZACC Commissioner Frozen Out

“The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) hereby announces the appointment of Commissioner Thandiwe Mlobane as the spokesperson with immediate effect,” ZACC said.

Makamure is facing several corruption-related allegations.

The tribunal was set up in terms of section 237(2)(c) and section 187(3)  of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

Retired Justice Maphios Cheda chairs the tribunal while Justice Ministry secretary, Virginia Mabhiza, is its secretary.

Zec Reacts To Rigging Allegations

By- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has reacted to allegations of vote rigging.

ZEC’s spokesperson Jasper Mangwana said their registration officers could not verify the addresses if the information on an affidavit availed by potential voters is true or false.
Sworn affidavits are used as proof of residence where a potential voter cannot provide proof of residence required by the law and are signed by councillors, traditional leaders, Members of Parliament and house owners.
ZEC has faced criticism from political parties and elections watchdogs over anomalies on the voters’ roll which include non-existent addresses.
Posting on his Twitter page this Tuesday, Mangwana said some of the things that political parties are seemingly not happy with such as the proof of residence requirement were commissioned by politicians from across all the political parties. Wrote Mangwana:
Residence Requirements on voter registration. The proof of residence issue is a historical one dating back to the initial BVR blitz in 2016 when Biometric voter registration was introduced on the polling station specific voting.
Stakeholders led by political parties agreed that a lot of potential voters could not provide proof of residence required by the law which could be ZESA, Telone Bills, Letter from employer, bank letter etc and there was consensus that affidavits be used as proof of residence.
Consequently, in the rural areas, chiefs and headmen used and still use affidavits while in urban areas councillors, MPs and house owners use affidavits to assist people to register to vote. An affidavit is a legally binding document.
@ZECzim registration officer has no means of verifying if the information on a sworn affidavit is true/false. ZEC has no way of establishing the veracity of addresses supplied by way of affidavits. Some towns, cities& residential suburbs do not have street names.
Sec 28 of the Electoral Act gives power to voters to object to any voter registered by the Commission.
Voter Inspection was meant to ensure polling areas can check names and if there are any objections so that @ZECzim would work on them.
The solution is to prosecute the deponent of the affidavit for supplying false information to the commission as this is a crime of perjury.
The purpose of the voters’ roll inspection done for 10 days in July was to receive such objections from voters in different areas.
@ZECzim has made over 23000 corrections in the voters’ roll as proved by the gazettes and address standardization.
We urge Stakeholders to participate when the voters’ roll is laid open for inspection & this is the form of AUDIT provided by our electoral law.
If Parliament resolves that those who supply false information on the registration to vote must be prosecuted there should be changes to the Electoral law, to include guidelines to the commission on how to identify addresses in both rural and urban areas.
Some of these proofs of residence have been commissioned by politicians like councillors from across all political parties.

Mnangagwa Buys 500 Cars For 2023 Polls

By-The ruling Zanu PF party has bought about 500 cars to use in the 2023 election campaign.

The party has also spent millions of dollars on party regalia and the welfare of its VIPs.

According to NewsDay, the ruling party spent ZW$1.8 billion and over US$4.8 million from January to September on staff salaries, gratuities, transport, health and allowances for party bigwigs, among other expenses.

The local daily cited a report of Zanu PF’s recently held 7th national congress.

The report states that in 2017, the party only had 45 vehicles and now has 531 vehicles, the largest fleet in ZANU PF’s history.

Read the report:

In 2018, the Zanu PF party acquired an additional 438 new motor vehicles bringing the fleet size to 486.

In 2020, the department of transport and social welfare received 15 new Isuzu double cab vehicles from the party treasury, bringing the fleet size to 501. Between December 2021 and September 2022, his Excellency the President and first secretary of the Zanu PF party, Comrade Dr Ed Mnangagwa donated 30 double cab vehicles to the party bringing the current fleet size to 531. Accordingly, the department of transport and social welfare remains grateful to leadership for this, and other interventions that saw unprecedented acquisition of the biggest motor vehicle fleet in the history of the party.

The report claimed that Zanu PF sources its funds from membership subscriptions, donations, allocations from the government under the Political Parties Finance Act and “investments”.

In the report, ZANU PF also acknowledged that the majority of Zimbabweans were not formally employed but earned their living from the informal sector, which it described as the “new mass employer.”

This is an indictment on President Mnangagwa who told delegates at his inauguration in 2017 that he would create “jobs, jobs, jobs.”

New Dispensation Useless

By Gift Ostallos Siziba

Zimbabwe is a nation in crisis.

It has been in a series of structural and interlocking crises that have converged to produce stagnation and catastrophe in the last few years. Politically, economically and socially, Zimbabwe is at a standstill. After November 2017, it fell into a deeper Constitutional crisis with broken foundations of legitimacy.

Sadly, there has been no movement; in fact there has been reversal and regression. Thus for the past 4 decades Zimbabweans have survived in a broken, failed and fragile State paralysed by a crisis of leadership, poor governance, non -inclusive institutions, low capacity and absence of a common vision. It has been in a vicious trap dominated by political instability, conflict, underdevelopment and a dysfunctional State.

Indeed the nation State has been bogged down by a massive social dislocation, collapsed economy, rampant poverty, underdevelopment, inequality, corruption and patronage. That State, the Zimbabwean State has sadly been a captured and conflated entity serving the interests of a party and a few elites, whilst retreating from its social and economic obligations to citizens. In the net result, the Zimbabwean citizen operated outside the realm of the State fending for himself in a difficult environment characterised by low per capita income and poor social services indicators.

It is the severe economic crisis that has been the most illustrative of Zimbabwe’s leadership crisis. The economic crisis is the single most visible illustration of the government’s gross failure and incompetence.

The economy has been a rickety affair of severe boom and bust cycles characterised by chapters of severe unprecedented hyperinflation, a collapsed currency and massive unemployment to the current status quo of low productivity, debt unsustainability, deflation and stagnation.

This situation requires robust, brave, radical and proactive responses, solutions and actions. In this regard, we, as the CCC , offer this smart response with actions and solutions to the agenda for real transformation in Zimbabwe.

We offer our promise and commitment to a New Zimbabwe under our soon to be availed New Zimbabwe Document.

President Chamisa Implores Citizens To Unite In Struggle For Freedom

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has said the trip to Lesotho for the inauguration of that country’s Prime Minister was an eye opener.

President Chamisa implored all citizens to unite in the struggle for freedom.

“Traveling to Lesotho for the inauguration was both a breath of fresh air and re energizing.

It was beautiful to experience the wave of change that is prevalent in the Continent lately. However it reminded me, why we are in the fight for freedom.

The hustle & struggles I face in order to traverse the length and breadth of the country, the uncomfortable prying eyes of surveillance around me every single day, the silent gratitude prayer I say every time we travel safely.

Whether President or any Zimbabwean resident, every citizen deserves the right to live freely in their country without fear and to enjoy the simple pleasures this beautiful country has to offer.
Freedom is what we’re fighting for!!!,” President Chamisa posted on his official Facebook page.

ZEC Rigging Exposed

Tinashe Sambiri| The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission ( ZEC) has been widely criticized for refusing to release the electronic voters’ roll.

Observers have urged CCC and concerned stakeholders to push for reforms before polls.

Team Pachedu has pointed out that ZEC is receiving instructions from Zanu PF.

“ZEC is refusing to release the electronic Voters’ Roll that they are using for delimitation.

ZEC also says that they will no longer be providing future Voters’ Rolls on CDs, to make it difficult to audit.

Why is ZEC so secretive with the Voters’ Roll?
ZEC is plotting to exclude IDs, Dates of Birth and Addresses from the electronic voters roll as a strategy to prevent the auditing of the 2023 election roll.

This violates Sections 20 & 21 of the Electoral Act which explicitly demands this information,” Team Pachedu said in separate statements.

Mnangagwa Endorsement Null And Void – Musengezi

Tinashe Sambiri|Zanu PF youth league member Sybeth Musengezi has described the endorsement of Emmerson Mnangagwa at the party’s seventh annual Congress as null and void.

Musengezi maintains Mnangagwa is illegitimate after rising to power via a military coup in 2017.

With the help of the army , Mnangagwa removed his long time boss Robert Mugabe from office.

According to Musengezi, Mnangagwa has nothing new to offer to citizens.

“Instead of complaining how Mnangagwa & his associates tricked us in November 2017, we should rather quickly pick up the pieces and fight the monster.
Encourage each other to register then vote in large numbers. Young people where are you???
The despot must be removed in 2023.

We can’t continue to be led by a clueless octogenarian .
While they’re having another kangaroo meeting (despite a pending Court Case) to endorse Mnangagwa as their sole presidential candidate for 2023 elections, we’ve started consultations as young Cdes in ZANU PF on way forward.

It’s been 4 weeks now following up with the investigators with no meaningful response. The police know the suspects’ work addresses at ZANU PF offices but they’re reluctant to investigate them. Maybe private prosecution is the only option left in our also captured courts.

I’m now convinced that @PoliceZimbabwe is a captured institution . I was hunted like a criminal everywhere over a bogus & silly charge BUT my petrol bombing & my attempted murder suspects were only phoned for interviews which they promised to come at their convenient time,” Musengezi posted on Twitter.

Kaitano Tembo Job On The Line

DStv Premiership side Sekhukhune United are reportedly set to sack head coach Kaitano Tembo this week.

The Zimbabwean tactician has been skating on thin ice for months, due to a string of poor results.

Babina Noko, as Sekhukhune are known across the Limpopo, have won only one of their last 10 matches under the guidance of the former Warriors defender and are joint bottom of the table with fellow strugglers Maritzburg United.

South Africa’s national broadcaster SABC reports that the Sekhukhune hierarchy will show Tembo the exit door this week, having already identified options to replace the former SuperSport United coach.

Tembo joined Sekhukhune in June, when he replaced MacDonald Makhubedu.

The Zimbabwean gaffer has tasted victory in only two of the 12 league games he has overseen in the Babina Noko dugout.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Mnangagwa Outsmarts Chiwenga

WITH the Zanu PF congress confirming that President Emmerson Mnangagwa has outsmarted Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, the late former president Robert Mugabe’s warning to the ex-military general amid the 2017 coup has now come to pass.

Mugabe warned Chiwenga that Mnangagwa would use and dump coup leaders unless he seized power himself. Mugabe told journalists at his Borrowdale mansion on 15 March 2018 in his last interview that he warned Chiwenga that imposing Mnangagwa would end in grief as he would later purge coup plotters.

Mugabe advised Chiwenga to take over himself, but the then army commander balked, probably because a military man taking over would have gone against the propaganda that the military was not staging a coup.

After the coup, Mnangagwa, as Mugabe had warned, went on to purge the coup leaders; dismantling the coalition that brought him to power. Chiwenga’s key military backers, who played a pivotal role in the coup, were kicked out of the army and Zanu PF, while he was battling a life-threatening illness in India and then China, amid poisoning fears. Among those removed were retired Lieutenant-General Anselem Sanyatwe, who commanded troops on the ground during the coup as Presidential Guard commander. Sanyatwe is Chiwenga’s personal friend and confidante.

Sanyatwe was retired alongside several commanders ahead of diplomatic assignments in February 2019.

These include the late Zimbabwe National Army chief-of-staff retired Lieutenant-General Douglas Nyikayaramba, who was chief-of-staff responsible for service personnel and logistics, retired Lieutenant-General Martin Chedondo and retired Air Marshal Sheba Shumbayawonda.

In June 2019, Mnangagwa then made another significant move by removing retired Lieutenant-General Engelbert Rugeje from the Zanu PF commissariat and replacing him with ally Victor Matemadanda, as he seized control of the party, while Chiwenga was incapacitated.

Most of Chiwenga’s factional allies have been removed, dumped and others have died mysteriously including the face of the coup, the late retired Lieutenant-General Sibusiso Moyo who was appointed Foreign Affairs minister after the coup.

Former Air Force of Zimbabwe commander Perrance Shiri, who was appointed Agriculture minister, also died of Covid-19 although his allies say he, like Moyo, was poisoned.

Mugabe told journalists, including The NewsHawks editors who then ran the Zimbabwe Independent, that when the coup struck he sent Roman Catholic priest Father Fidelis Mukonori to engage army commanders, including Chiwenga, but he later replaced him with his confidante Gideon Gono.

He said Mukonori had “sold out” as his role as emissary became compromised and biased in favour of the coup, hence Gono had to come into the process because “he was objective”.

Gono went to meet Chiwenga and other commanders at KGVI, now Josiah Magama Tongogara, Barracks, Harare.

As armoured vehicles, tanks and other army cars rolled on the streets enforcing the coup, Mugabe said he spoke to Chiwenga through Gono, telling him that he should just take over power as Mnangagwa was not reliable and would remove all his allies to consolidate power later.

Mugabe said Chiwenga refused to take over and even denied that he had staged a coup against him. Mugabe said Chiwenga denied the coup vehemently, saying he would never act against him as they had worked together for decades since the liberation struggle days in Mozambique.

Top Radio Personality Succumbs To Liver Cancer

Radio legend Jeremy Mansfield has died at the age of 59, after a battle with liver cancer.

A close friend and former colleague Samantha Cowen confirmed Mansfield’s death on Monday morning.

“This morning a light went out in the world. Jeremy Mansfield passed away just before dawn. He died peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends and boundless love,” Cowen said,

In a statement, Cowen said: “Jeremy lived large, he didn’t know how to do small. He loved hard, laughed loud, and managed to combine mischief and mayhem with heart and soul. The city was brighter and lighter with him on the airwaves, he changed lives every day. When he wasn’t raising millions for charity, he was raising fresh hell!

Under a naughty exterior, Jeremy had a huge soft heart. A lot of people got to see and hear that over the radio but he saved his vulnerability for a select few. He was determined that the world be a better and shinier and funnier place and he drove the road to that destination at 1000 miles an hour with no rearview mirror, all of the rest of us clinging on for dear life!”

“We will miss him horribly. The family is devastated and is asking for privacy during this time,” Cowen said.

Olinda Chapel Responds To Fraud Evidence, Says: I Refunded The Money, And I Didn’t At All Refund It | FULL TEXT

By Olinda Chapel | This past week I have been feeling very low. Anyone around me knows this. Reason because sometimes I truly feel people do not deserve and they feel they have the right to come drag my name in the mud.

All my life I have been a very hardworking person. I have never had anything given to me, I have never inherited anything or ever had to steal anything. I have never had to sleep with a man for money. Or date anyone for money or what they can do for me.

I am selfmade and I have been for a long time !

EVERYTHING I have achieved has been from hard work. I work 7 days a week from 6am to 11pm. Those that have had the privilege of being around me personally will testify on my behalf. Not all this social media wa gala that you see. In person I am an extremely different person (at least so many have said.)

I have tried to help my community in so many ways and most of the time it always comes back and bites me back. Which feels extremely unfair. But ndizvo zvinoda moyo wangu. I always say it’s a reflection of my character.

So for this Susan woman to go around and say I stole from her ! Is extremely hurtful. Especially when you went and deposited money into my bank account without my knowledge. I DIDN’T ASK YOU TO ! Your own friend had to beg me to help you and she vouched for you. When I had said NO !! The same person who when she told me “ndawana rimwe basa”. She got a refund into her account the very same day from the very same FNB account.

When you decided to withdraw – after I had refused in the first place and you all begged me . I agreed to give you a refund but I got locked out of my FNB account and I have been communicating with them and I was asked to go in branch and get it sorted. Which I haven’t done.

My issue with YOU is not giving a refund. My issue is you have continuously lied that I stole from you when you did all the above and I didn’t even want your money. I STILL DONT need your money. Whether you like or not I make enough money to sustain my family with the services I provide.

My principals are if you go lying on my name – I will not lift a finger for you.

I will continue coming with receipts ! Last time you even created fake chats and you forgot that you can’t be a “friend” with a page !

So the very same way you went and deposited money into that bank account WITHOUT my consent. You can go back to the bank and advise them what you did and ask them to reverse that transaction. I will NOT waste my money to help you. You are an evil person that lies too much !

Khedha ndiye adaro !!!!

Zec Speaks On Election Rigging

Zim Lecturer Up For Sex Toys

By-A female Gwanda State University lecturer was recently sentenced to six months in prison after she was found in possession of sex toys.

Shirley Tendai Chapunza (27), of St Helens Road in Parklands, Bulawayo, was sentenced by Bulawayo magistrate Shot Game on 27 October 2022.

She was sentenced to a six-month jail term but was then offered the option of a fine of ZWL$60 000 (less than US$100).

Customs officials had intercepted Chipunza’s parcel of three sex toys at the main post office, sent from Germany.

She was charged under section 47(1)b of the Customs and Excise Act which prohibits the importation of “any goods which are indecent, obscene or objectionable.”

The law under a section on “goods prohibited from importation” also bans the shipment of “any goods which might tend to deprave the morals of the inhabitants… of Zimbabwe,” reported ZimLive.

Allegations are that on 31 May this year, the geomatics and surveying engineer went to the main post office in Bulawayo to collect a parcel sent from Germany.

Francisca Mapurazi, a Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) employee, insisted on checking the parcel to determine if did not contain any illegal items or duty-attracting goods.

Prosecutor Sehliselo Khumalo told the court that Mapurazi found three sex toys and immediately called the police.

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old Harare woman, Ayanda Unity Mponda was detained for 15 days in May before she obtained bail at the High Court in May after she allegedly imported sex toys for sale.

Mponda is awaiting trial.

Mnangagwa Bribes Top Party Officials

By-The ruling, Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa has spent millions on senior party officials, more than the party had since independence.

The party has spent millions of dollars on party regalia and the welfare of its VIPs.

SA Records New Covid-19 Cases

By- South Africa’s Health Department is warning of a spike in COVID-19 infections in four provinces.

Experts say cases are of less severe Omicron sub-variants.

In Gauteng, the number is rising, eNCA news reported citing Dr Harsha Somaroo, a Public Health Medicine Specialist at Wits University.

Somaroo said a higher number of tests have been performed in Gauteng since 2020. She said:

In terms of the recent increase in the number of Covid-19 cases, I think the one thing we think might be associated with it is the recent school holidays at the beginning of October.

I think usually the Covid cases — when you consider the incubation time of the virus — it increases about five to ten days after transmission occurs so that’s when we start seeing the increase in the numbers.

As much as we’re slightly concerned about the increase, the numbers are low-level increases and we’ll continue to monitor it.

South Africa has as of 31 October 2022 recorded over 4 million cases and over 102 000 deaths.

Sekhukhune United Wield Axe On Kaitano Tembo

World Cities Day Message

By 2050, nearly 7 out of 10 people globally will live in cities and other urban settings. While cities face many health challenges, on World Cities Day 2022 WHO and partners examine how city leaders are uniquely positioned to understand local needs and respond rapidly to changing conditions to safeguard health.

Although living in cities brings many advantages, rapid and unplanned urbanization can have negative social and environmental health impacts. These include not only issues linked to climate change, pandemics and noncommunicable diseases, but also to malaria and other vector-borne diseases. While the burden of malaria is currently still higher in rural areas, current trends in urbanization mean that in a few years most people living in malaria-endemic countries will reside in urban areas.

In this regard, and on the occasion of World Cities Day 2022, WHO and UN Habitat have produced the Global framework for the response to malaria in urban areas. The Framework provides guidance to city government officials, health professionals and urban planners for a comprehensive malaria response specifically in urban areas, where the dynamics of transmission and burden of vector-borne diseases can be different from that of rural areas. The Framework acknowledges that the global fight against malaria and other vector-borne diseases requires strong action from local governments, in areas such as health, housing and infrastructure.

“By offering specific guidance to local officials, this new Framework can help ensure that malaria control forms an integral part of the broader urban planning, policy-making and budgeting processes,” explains Dr Abdisalan Noor, Head of the Strategic Information for Response Unit in the WHO Global Malaria Programme. “For each urban context, the strategic use of data can inform effective, tailored responses and help build resilience against the threat of malaria and other vector-borne diseases.”

On World Cities Day 2022, WHO is also launching the Urban health research agenda, a comprehensive strategy to help cities build better evidence around what works to address urban health challenges. The agenda calls for building evidence on the environmental, economic and social impacts of urban health policies, so that they can be addressed through a coordinated approach that involves the different sectors working together to improve the health of their residents.

“We desperately need to get ahead of the challenges that are impacting the health and well-being of people living in cities,” notes Dr Etienne Krug, Director of the Department of Social Determinants of Health at WHO. “Strong urban policies must prioritize health, to ensure resilient and vibrant communities for people to live, work, go to school and play, all while protecting those who are most vulnerable.”

Urban health is a growing priority for WHO, which addresses the issue in multiple cross-cutting ways, such as better air quality, a safe water supply and improved sanitation; healthy urban planning; smoke-free environments; road safety; prevention of violence and injuries; healthy food systems and diets; environmental management of vector-borne diseases; and preparedness for health and humanitarian emergencies. Addressing the needs of specific population groups, such as children and older people and migrants, is also a priority. The interlinked nature of urban health challenges means that action in one sector can have benefits for many others.

To help Member States address the above priorities, WHO is supporting the strengthening of the evidence base to allow policy-makers to make informed decisions when addressing health risks. We provide tools and guidance on what works and support monitoring of key health-related indicators. In addition, we lead and engage in partnership activities that foster city-to-city exchanges and help develop institutional and policy frameworks for good governance for health and well-being in cities.

ZEC Refuses To Release Voters’ Roll

S_x Toys Land Bulawayo Lecturer In Hot Soup

They are harmless devices used by millions of women around the world in the privacy of their homes, but in Zimbabwe, possession of a sex toy can land you in jail.

A university lecturer was spared a prison sentence by a court in Bulawayo on October 27 after her parcel of three sex toys, sent from Germany, was intercepted by customs authorities at the main post office.

Shirley Tendai Chapunza, 27, was sentenced to a six-month jail term but magistrate Shot Game offered her the option of a fine of Z$60,000 (about US$95).

The Gwanda State University lecturer, of St Helens Road in Parklands, Bulawayo, was charged under section 47(1)b of the Customs and Excise Act which prohibits the importation of “any goods which are indecent, obscene or objectionable.”

Mapurazi found three sex toys and immediately called the police.

Chapunza is the second woman this year to be charged for possession of sex toys.

Ayanda Unity Mponda, 23, was detained for 15 days before she obtained bail at the High Court in May after prosecutors charged her for illegally importing sex toys for sale in Harare.

Zimbabwe does not manufacture sex toys and all sex toys in the country, according to the government, were illegally imported.

Mponda is awaiting trial.

The two arrests illustrate the legal dangers female travellers who move with their sex toys face when entering Zimbabwe, if customs officials insist on a physical inspection of their luggage.

Zimbabwe’s morality laws, which also ban pornography, are some of the most archaic in the world. Critics say they are out of step with cultural changes and trends.

Freedom Is Coming- President Chamisa

One Down, Three Left For Marry Mubaiwa’s Court Charges

VICE President Constantino Chiwenga’s ex-wife Marry Mubaiwa who was facing a charge of assaulting her former maid Delight Munyoro was yesterday acquitted by Harare magistrate Learnmore Mapiye.

Mubaiwa, had through her lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa, applied for discharge at the close of the State case, arguing that the witnesses in the matter had given conflicting statements, and that the State failed to prove a case against her.

Mapiye upheld Mubaiwa’s application saying the witnesses, could not be trusted, adding that their testimonies were conflicting throughout the trial.

This is the first case Mubaiwa has been acquitted out of four other charges laid against her.

She was convicted of trying to fraudulently upgrade her marriage with Chiwenga; and is also facing attempted murder and money-laundering allegations which are pending at the courts.

During the trial, the complainant (Munyoro) was exposed when she gave conflicting statements under oath, and under cross examination by Mtetwa.

Mubaiwa was accused of assaulting Munyoro when she met her at the school where one of her children is enrolled.

A Mukuru Employee On The Run After Stealing US$11 652

An employee with Mukuru, a financial services company is allegedly on the run after US$11 652 went missing at the company’s outlet at Murambinda Growth Point.

The matter came to light when Samuel Panganai (31), a regional supervisor (Retail) detected an anomaly and ordered the accused to attend to it on October 14, 2022.

However, on October 19 the accused allegedly did not report for duty and this prompted the regional supervisor to alert the regional manager Rodney Rondodzai who instructed Fawcett to do a forensic audit.

Fawcett allegedly realised that US$8 152 was missing and a further US$3 500 could not be found in the safe.

Efforts to get a comment from Rondozai were futile as his mobile was not reachable.

A police docket has since been opened at Murambinda police.

Manicaland Police spokesperson Inspector Nobert Chizondo referred questions to his assistant Wiseman Chinyoka who could however not be reached for comment until the time of going to Press.

A Police report seen by this publication show that investigations are going on.

Drama As Mwonzora Loyalist Lands Gweru Deputy Mayoral Post

A Douglas Mwonzora loyalist has landed the deputy mayor’s post in Gweru after two CCC councilors were ejected out of a meeting where elections were conducted for alleged improper dressing.

Ward 9 Councillor Edson Kurebgaseka was elected during a special council meeting held last Tuesday to replace the recently recalled deputy mayor Cleopas Shiri.

Shiri was recalled by MDC T leader, Mwonzora together with two other Gweru councilors, Martin Chivhoko and John Manyundwa for supporting CCC president Nelson Chamisa.

Kurebgaseka polled 8 votes against his CCC rival and Ward 12 Councillor Jefta Zvidzai who managed to poll 4 votes.

Two councilors, former Gweru Mayor Josiah Makombe and Ward 6 Councillor Godfrey Giwa were forced out of the meeting on allegations that they were wearing round collar t-shirts.

Ironically, there were MDC-T councilors in the meeting who were putting on sandals who were left in the meeting.

Kurebgaseka is expected to hold the deputy mayoral post until the 2023 plebiscite. The recalled councilors will be replaced in a by-election to be held on Saturday December 3, 2022.

Komichi Thrown Under The Bus

The MDC-T has dismissed a weekend statement by its national chairperson, Morgen Komichi, saying the opposition party had already fielded candidates to contest forthcoming by-elections after boycotting previous ones.

Komichi told NewZimbabwe.com the party had chosen representatives in all the vacant wards.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) last week announced the nomination court will receive papers for Binga ,Victoria Falls and Gweru by elections on November 3 while the elections will be held on December 3.

All the seats fell vacant after the incumbent councillors were recalled by the opposition party.

“This time around we are going to take part in the upcoming by-elections. We have already identified through consensus our candidates. We are urging Zimbabweans to vote for the MDC-T.

“Our party is the only political party which can bring real change in Zimbabwe. Our people have suffered a lot under Zanu-PF,” Komichi told NewZimbabwe.com Sunday.

But in a statement released Monday, the party spokesperson Witness Dube refuted Komichi’s position, thereby literally throwing him under the bus.

“The MDC’s position on by-elections remains that we will not be participating in any by-election until after our current restructuring exercise and congress preparations are completed.

“Reports by an online newspaper (NewZimbabwe.com) of the 31st October 2022 suggesting that we will be participating in the upcoming by-elections is not the correct party position, but simply statements attributable to our National Chairperson Morgen Komichi,” said Dube.

The spokesperson said the party’s last national standing committee held on October 26, 2022 had deliberated on the by election issue.

During the meeting, Dube said it was resolved that the issue be looked into detail by the party’s constitutional technical committee on elections, which is meeting November 1, 2022.

“This committee will consider our financial ability to participate in the by-elections given that our 5th ordinary congress is already taking place at provincial levels and soon to be held nationally. The committee ‘s details cost benefit analysis report will inform our position on the upcoming by-elections,”

“The MDC 5th ordinary congress will be used as a preparatory process for the upcoming national elections in 2023,” said Dube.

The spokesperson said the congress will elect the party’s presidential candidate and running mates, including administration of the candidate selection process for all parliamentary and local government positions.

Following the March by-elections in which the party performed dismally, the party’s leadership took a decision not to participate in any future mini polls, leaving the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and Zanu-PF battling it out in the subsequent by -elections.

In Binga , the by-elections will be conducted in Wards 6, 8, 10, 15, 20 and 23 while in Gweru the by-elections are set for Wards 4, 5 and 18. In Victoria Falls, polls are set for Ward 8.

London’s Natural History Museum and Cambridge University have said that they are ready to co-operate with Zimbabwe to return human remains that were taken in the colonial era.

The fresh statements come after a delegation from Zimbabwe held talks with officials from both institutions.

The Zimbabweans are looking for the skulls of late-19th Century anti-colonial heroes, which they believe could be in the UK.

But these have not yet been found.

The authorities in Zimbabwe have long suspected that the remains of some of the leaders of an uprising against British rule in the 1890s – known as the First Chimurenga – were taken to the UK as trophies.

The most significant among them was a woman who became known as Mbuya Nehanda. She was executed in what is now the capital, Harare and is revered as a national heroine.

In doing a search of its archive, the Natural History Museum did uncover 11 remains “that appear to be originally from Zimbabwe” – but its records do not connect them with Nehanda. These include three skulls taken in 1893, thought to be from Zimbabwe’s second city, Bulawayo, as well as remains uncovered in mineshafts and archaeological digs and later donated.

Cambridge University’s Duckworth Laboratory has not been so specific, simply saying it has “a small number of human remains from Zimbabwe”, but in a statement sent to the BBC it said it had not identified any of these as belonging to First Chimurenga figures.

The Natural History Museum, with 25,000 human remains, and the Duckworth Laboratory, with 18,000, have some of the largest such archives in the world.

These have come from a variety of sources including archaeological excavations of ancient sites, but for many the exact origins have been obscured by time.

During the colonial era, body parts were sometimes removed from battlefields or dug up from graves either as trophies or for research into a now-discredited scientific field.

In the 19th Century, phrenology, which investigated the idea that human characteristics could be determined by the shape of the skull, was very popular in the UK and other parts of Europe.

Phrenological societies would collect skulls to help develop the theory, which for some extended to racial classification.

Some researchers set out to show that skull shape indicated that people from different parts of the world were inherently inferior. Some of the archives that now exist in the UK are amalgamations of what had been amassed by defunct phrenological societies as well as private collectors.

Zimbabwe’s government believes that somehow the skulls of the country’s heroes ended up in the archives of a British museum.

Chief among them were spiritual leaders, including Charwe Nyakasikana, who became known as Mbuya (Grandmother) Nehanda as she was the medium of the revered ancestral spirit Nehanda. She was arrested after being accused of murdering a British official.Nehanda was then hanged and her body decapitated, it is believed.

What happened next is not clear, but in recent years, Zimbabwean officials have made several public statements saying it ended up in the Natural History Museum. With a death cry of “my bones will surely rise”, Nehanda became an increasingly potent symbol for those fighting against white-minority rule in what was then known as Rhodesia from the late 1960s.

Zimbabwe gained independence in 1980

A three-metre statue of Nehanda now stands over a major road in the centre of Harare. At its unveiling in 2021, President Emmerson Mnangagwa pledged to continue to call for the return of her skull and others from the Natural History Museum.

For Zimbabweans, the removal of the head “means that you have literally punished the person beyond the grave”, Godfrey Mahachi, who led the delegation to the UK, told the BBC in 2020 when the visit was being planned.

“If the head is separated, that means that the spirit of that person will forever linger and never settle.”

Despite not finding what the Zimbabwean delegation was looking for, both the Natural History Museum and Cambridge University say they are committed to working with the Zimbabwean government to repatriate what was found.

As part of its policy of repatriation, earlier this year, the Natural History Museum returned ancestral Moriori and Maori remains.

In a press statement following a recent cabinet meeting, Zimbabwe’s government said that the delegation that went to the UK was satisfied that “there are indeed human remains of Zimbabwean origin in the UK”.

“Government will spare no effort to ensure the repatriation of our ancestors,” it added.

The Zimbabwean delegation also held talks with the British Museum, Oxford University’s Pitt Rivers Museum, the University of Manchester Museum and the UK’s National Archives. But no details are given about what was discussed.

Despite the lack of success in this trip to the UK, the historical significance to Zimbabwe of the remains of Nehanda and others means that the search will continue.

Silobela Duo In Soup For Killing Beer Drinking Colleague

By A Correspondent- ZRP Silobela arrested two men for allegedly fatally stabbing another man with a knife. Police said:

On 29/10/22, ZRP Silobela arrested Justice Matindike (24) and Tirivashe Gumbo (23) in connection with a case of murder that occurred on 29/10/22 at Mambo Queen Mine, where the victim, Marshal Gwabeni (30) died after being stabbed on the chest and both hands with a knife.

The suspects were on a revenge mission after the victim had stabbed Justice Matindike with a broken beer bottle in the hand following an argument over an unknown issue during a beer-drinking spree on 28/10/22 at a nightclub.

ZRP’s Chihuri Fights To Rocover Seized Properties

The Supreme Court will this week hear the National Prosecuting Authority’s appeal against the removal of some of former police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri’s properties from the unexplained wealth orders, five months ago.
Chihuri resumed control over some of the properties he acquired during his 25 years at the helm of the police force following a High Court judgment in June this year, which ruled partly in his favour.

But other assets and those of his companies fingered in possible corrupt business deals with the police force remained under the unexplained wealth orders.

Dissatisfied with the lower court decision, NPA took the matter up to the Supreme Court challenging the decision.

A three-judge panel comprising Justices Susan Mavangira, George Chiweshe and Joseph Musakwa will hear the appeal set for this Friday.

All Chihuri family’s known Zimbabwean assets were placed under management in 2020, while he was required to explain his link with the companies and properties which the State listed for potential forfeiture.

Chihuri is being accused of side-tracking US$32 million of public funds into family companies and buying properties during his tenure at the helm of the police force.

In his judgment in June this year, High Court judge Justice Pisirayi Kwenda varied two unexplained wealth orders previously granted to the State forcing Chihuri to explain his wealth, links and interest in the swathe of companies, and that he and his family acquired large property holdings and other assets.

The unexplained wealth order granted on 11 June 2020 had four paragraphs deleted from the list and that granted a week later on 18 June 2020 had two paragraphs removed.

Justice Kwenda granted the State’s counter application involving certain companies that were in business deals with the police force. -Herald

Mnangagwa Breaks Mugabe’s Spending History

By-The ruling Zanu PF party President Emmerson Mnangagwa has spent more than the party had since independence.

The party has spent millions of dollars on party regalia and the welfare of its VIPs.

Top Radio Personality Dies

Zanu PF Spends Millions On Election Campaign Cars

Mnangagwa Outwits Chiwenga

Billiat Gets Credit For Chiefs Win

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart has given credit to Khama Billiat and revealed how the Zimbabwean masterminded the stunning goal that won the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates on Saturday.

Maart netted a long range shot from his own half, picking up the ball after Billiat won the possession.

The effort beat Siyabonga Mpontshane, who was off his line.

Speaking after the match, the former Pirates player explained Khama’s vital role in the goal.

“The first opportunity I passed Khama the ball and he told me: ‘check the goalkeeper, he is from his line,’” Maart said as quoted by iDiski Times.

“The second time, Khama intercepted the ball, I looked up and I just hit it direct.”

The 27-year-old midfielder added: “I think, to be honest with you, a derby game is always a memory and is always something good. I think it will stay in the history books of the derby games and eventually they will show other people in the future what the derby means.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Fodger Killed After Blowing Up Fuel Tanker

State Media – A Harare man died after a fuel tanker trailer belonging to Segment of Glory Energy he was welding exploded, killing him instantly.

It is reported that the welder was on top of the trailer while sealing a leak that had developed on the tanker.

When The Herald arrived at the scene along Sherwood Crescent in Waterfalls, Harare, the body had already been removed.

Workers at the depot were continuing with business.

The truck, which had the fuel tank trailer that exploded was still parked in the SOG depot next to other trucks.

The workers referred all the questions of their employee Mr Justice Madzimure who expressed ignorance over the issue, saying he was not the owner of the haulage company.

A witness said those around panicked after hearing an explosive sound coming out of the depot and they saw the body of the welder lying in the yard of the next depot where it was thrown.

“The man was on top of the fuel tank trailer welding it and everything seemed to be going on well,” said the eye witness who refused to be named. “He asked if the sadza I was cooking was ready so that he could come and buy it when he was done.

“Moments later we were terrified by the explosive sound of the fuel tanker. The man was thrown into this yard (next depot) where he died instantly. When the fuel tanker trailer exploded some people ran away because they thought it was a bomb, but after the explosion some came back to see what had transpired.”

Others said they heard an explosion and thought that it was a bomb.

National police spokesperson assistant commissioner Paul Nyathi said he was yet to receive a report from police officers who attended the scene.

In a statement on Sunday, CCC denounced the persecution of Hon Job Wiwa Sikhala and jailed activists.

“Celebrating 50th birthday of a REVOLUTIONARY Hon Job Wiwa Sikhala. A Fearless cadre in the face of imprisonment & trumped up charges, he still stands firm in his conviction that ZANU PF must be brought down.

Tinashe Sambiri|The Zanu PF leader Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa has admitted that his party is full of thieves.

Addressing the seventh Zanu PF national Congress in Harare on Saturday, Mr Mnangagwa bemoaned the rampant looting of resources by members of his party.

See statement below:

ZANU PF FIRST SECRETARY CDE DR E.D MNANGAGWA OFFICIATES AT THE 7TH ZANU PF NATIONAL PEOPLE’S CONGRESS…

Live@ HICC

E.D Mnangagwa…

It is my honor to address you as we close our congress. l respect the unity and order displayed during this congress. The Zanu Pf way of doing things is exceptional. Internal party processes are more refined as we build a prosperous Zimbabwe living no one and no place behind. We appreciate our visitors their call for the unconditional removal of sanctions. Emerging from this 7th National Congress we must never bury our heads from the sun but to lead from the front. Targets articulated in the congress must be achieved by us. We must revamp administration to be insync with the modernisation we are pursuing. We must remain adaptive to the modern advancements. Victory must become the signature of Zanu pf. I challenge the leadership to broaden the horizon beyond 2030 to fulfill the hopes of people. We must come up with policies to end poverty through job creation delivering sustainable livelihoods and prosperous future for Zimbabweans. The party belongs to three generations , the dead, the current and the future. The current must keep Zanu PF alive and hand it over vibrant to the next generation.

The power of ZANU PF is with the people not the leadership. It is the people growing the country. As in the liberation we were like fish in the water. All party structures must be equipped with this role of catering for the people of Zimbabwe. We are the leaders of Zimbabwe. I outlined the success of the party in the opening remarks, Zimbabwe is going forward in the next 5 years. At this congress we have emerged with resolutions to guide the party congress and the generality has spoken. The party will run with organised structures to secure another 5 year term. Attainment of upper middle income economy by 2030 must be accelerated regardless of imposition of sanctions. A firm foundation has been laid on which we mount our campaign strategy. The system has been oiled to win. I thank you for nominating me to be your 2023 Presidential candidate. l depend on you and your support to win. l congratulate CC members who have won. There are those who can be chosen to lead not all of us should lead. I thank the out going CC every member is important. l urge you to work together as we fulfill the agenda of our party. Lets urge our people to turn up to vote. People died, lost limbs, bitten by snakes, wild animals but fought on to gain independence. Every 5 years we vote to secure the country. President Chamisa’s Emotive Birthday Message To Hon Sikhala

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has slammed the Zanu PF regime for blocking Hon Job Sikhala’s wife from presenting a birthday cake to the jailed politician.

Hon Sikhala turned 50 on Sunday October 30. He was jailed for denouncing the brutal murder of CCC activist Moreblessing Ali.

On Sunday President Chamisa described Wiwa as a hero of the people’s struggle.

“Today Hon @JobSikhala1 turns 50.

Sadly,I’ve just heard from his wife that they had baked a bday cake for him but Prison authorities denied the family the opportunity to have the cake delivered to him in prison.

Join me in wishing the citizens hero a happy birthday.God bless Wiwa!”

Zanu PF Spends US$5 Million In Few Months

By-The ZANU PF party has spent millions of dollars on cars, party regalia and improving the welfare of its VIPs ahead of the 2023 elections.

Macheso Dedicates Songs To Every Lover

By- Sungura music star Alick Macheso is said to be in the habit of dedicating songs to every lady he falls in love with.

This came out after the death of his former lover, Petunia Rwizi.

Macheso dedicated one of his famous songs to Petunia.

Petunia died of cancer at the age of 45.

She was laid to rest on 11 October at her rural home in Dirikwe Village of Nyanyadzi in Chimanimani District.

Macheso and Petunia have one child named Munashe, who was born in 2000, the same year the song Petunia was released.

Mourners who gathered at Petunia’s rural homestead for a three-day funeral wake would often break into song and dance, with the hit song “Petunia”, being the soundtrack of the funeral.

Brother to the deceased, Isay Rwizi, spoke to Manica Post:

Most people who knew my sister well pleaded with us to have some sort of a funeral party for Petunia.

They played Alick Macheso’s music throughout and danced.

Apart from the suggestive dances, we saw nothing wrong with that because we all know that the two, Macheso and my sister Petunia, once had an affair and they had a child together.

Macheso also assisted Petunia with her hospital bills, long after her relationship with Macheso had ended, according to The Weekender.

The sungura maestro is also said to have contributed towards Petunia’s burial. Isay Rwizi said:

During the days she was unwell, Mai Shero (Macheso’s wife) gave our sister some financial assistance and we appreciate such humility.

In the song “Petunia”, Macheso expresses his deep love for the woman.

Back then, the rumour mill had it that a Chipinge man only identified as Garikai, who is also now late, was in a relationship with Petunia when Macheso came into the picture and he dumped her.

Macheso is said to have dedicated “Madhau” to a lover who was based in Marondera, while “Monalisa” hailed from Bulawayo and “Tafadzwa” traces part of her upbringing to Mutare.

BREAKING: Marry Chiwenga Acquitted Of Assault

By Farai D Hove | The ex wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, Marry has been acquitted of assault charges by Harare magistrate Mrs Learnmore Mapiye.

She had on her file charges of assaulting her maid.

The development comes 2 months after ZimEye exposed on camera a VP Chiwenga aide of laying false accusations against her over forging a marriage while her husband was bedridden.

Mubaiwa through her lawyer Mrs Mtetwa had applied for discharge at the close of the State’s case arguing that its evidence was unreliable as witnesses who testified had many versions of what transpired. In her ruling, Mrs Mapiye said the application for discharge at the close of the State’s case by Mtetwa has merit and therefore her client is acquitted.

It was alleged that on January 28, 2020, at around midday, Munyoro went to Hellenic Primary School in Borrowdale, Harare to collect Mubaiwa’s son she sired with Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.
It was the State’s case that while Munyoro remained seated in the car the driver, Batsirai Furukiya, went to collect the child. The court heard that while Fururiya was walking with the child going where the car was parked, Mubaiwa followed him. Upon arrival at the car, Mubaiwa started accusing Munyoro of telling her children not to talk to her and quizzed her why she was doing so.

In her defense, Mubaiwa denied the assault allegations telling the court through her lawyer, Mtetwa that her hands were weak at the time of the alleged attack after she was injured during the Bulawayo White City Stadium blast incident.

Announcing the acquittal, her lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa said,

“As you know Marry was facing an assault charge, and we applied for discharge on the basis that the evidence of the state was unreliable because there were as many versions as there were witnesses, and that it is very rare for the complainant and the doctor to actually disagree, but here we had one saying I saw the doctor once, the doctor says I saw her twice, the reports say different things, so she said the applicant has merit and she has been acquitted. Yeah.”

‘Dexter Nduna’s Constituency, Parly Work Too Loud To Ignore’

By A Correspondent| He soft spoken, but his work and actions speak louder than his voice.

That best describes ZANU PF legislator Dexter Nduna, who has changed the face of Chegutu and is making waves in national politics.

Several motions in the National Assembly, if not more than one third of the most important ones, are attributed to Nduna.

For instance, it was him who introduced the motion for school feeding programme advocacy which has since been rolled out throughout the country.

The motion to spruce up the liberation war shrines in and outside Zimbabwe was also brought up for debate by the Chegutu West legislator.

The Special Economic Zones motion that caused the establishment of the bill and Act on the SEZs was also brought up in the National Assembly by him.

Other motions he moved include one which saw more than 3 000 artisanal miners being released on amnesty in 2016 as well as the call for the repeal of the Mines and Mineral Act, which Act is now on second reading.

The recently elected central committee member was also the brains behind the motion calling for the establishment of the exploration of the country’s resources and the quantification of minerals.

He also called in another motion the harmonisation of the Lands and Minerals Act to make sure that the 2000 land reform is not reversed.

The former ZANU PF Mashonaland West deputy chairperson called for removal of duty on buses and since 2016 government has been charging 5% duty on buses importation

On the transport issue, Nduna also called for establishment of accident victims stabilisation centres at toll gates. This was after he lost two of his children in a road traffic accident along the Bulawayo-Harare highway due to late medical attention and none availability of medical attention within the golden hour after the accident.

In his submissions in the Eighth Parliament as the transport portfolio committee chairman he said he did not wish what happened to him to happen to any other man as this was a painful experience and would work hard to get the 12.5 percent remittances to traffic safety council from third party insurance to help accident victims both bereaved and injured.

Nduna has built a world class accident victims stabilisation centre in Chegutu along the Bulawayo-Harare Road at Surisuri Airbase turnoff, 200m off the highway using community initiative where each house brought bricks and the legislator bought everything else using his own resources.

He is currently pushing the government to clear the national housing backlog of 2.6m houses.

He called on conversion of gold and platinum into gold coins and platinum coins and utilisation of the same in place of paper money.

He is currently pushing for the offer of title deeds for all council houses if one stayed at the house for more than 25 years.

Politically Nduna continues to rise after he was recently elected a central committee member and chances are high that the party leadership will consider him for other positions since he remains loyal to the revolutionary party.

Soweto Derby: Billiat Rises To The Occasion

DeMbare, Bosso In Dull Draw

Regarded by many as the contest which would prove that local football is still exciting, the ‘Battle of Zimbabwe’ failed to live up to expectations as old foes Dynamos and Highlanders played out a disappointing goalless draw at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.

Pre-match talk was dominated by suggestions that DeMbare and Bosso, the two biggest teams in the country, would prove to the football-loving public that there is still some life left in top-flight football after all.

A bumper crowd was even expected, as evidenced by the Premier Soccer League (PSL)’s move to reinforce security for the clash, which has been marred by crowd trouble of late.

In the end, less than 2000 fans were at the giant facility and the eagerly-awaited clash had very little in terms of entertainment and goal mouth action.

DeMbare’s King Nadolo came the closest to breaking the deadlock when his well-taken shot hit the underside of the crossbar in the second half.

Uncharacteristically, Ndiraya had gone for a more attacking line up, with Tinashe Makanda leading the search for goals while Issa Sadiki operated on the right flank.

In the end, Ndiraya admited the game lacked flare but reckoned a draw was a fair result.

“It was a balanced affair with little goal mouth action, which is very common with these big games,” Ndiraya told the media after the game.

“Players tend to really not express themselves in the manner that they should be, we expected it to be like that.

“The teams were little bit hesitant and they were not going at each other as you would expect in these kind of games with the excitement from the terraces. You would think that they (the fans) would spur on the players.

Added Ndiraya: “The game was a little flat to be honest but at the end, a draw was a fair result.

Ndiraya’s Highlanders counterpart Baltemar Brito also felt both teams did not express themselves enough.

“In my opinion, it was a good game. It was too tactical as both teams tried to close up the spaces,” the Portuguese said after the game.

“Not too many opportunities but it was a good game in my opinion and I’m happy with the performance of the boys,” added Brito.-Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Pfumbidzai Scores Crucial Goal For Chippa United

Zimbabwean left back Ronald Pfumbidzai scored his third goal of the season for Chippa United, in their entertaining 3-3 draw with Richards Bay in the DStv Premiership on Sunday.

The former CAPS United left back reduced the Chili Boys’ deficit when he headed home Khanyisile Mayo’s corner kick.

Pfumbidzai is now the Zimbabwean with the most goals in the South African top-flight this season.

Meanwhile, Khama Billiat’s goal drought continues after he failed to score in his 10th league match of the season.

The diminutive winger was replaced in the second half as Kaizer Chiefs beat Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates.

Veteran defender Onismor Bhasera featured for SuperSport United in their 1-1 with Swallows while Washingon Arubi kept goal for Marumo Gallants in their 1-2 defeat to Cape Town City.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Mnangagwa Continues To Ruin Citizens’ Lives

Tinashe Sambiri|Citizens’ Coalition for Change( CCC) says Zanu PF does not have the capacity to turn around the economy.

In a statement on Sunday, CCC denounced the persecution of Hon Job Wiwa Sikhala and jailed activists.

“Today, our MP Job Sikhala celebrates his 50th birthday. He would have wanted to celebrate this milestone with his friends and family but the regime in Harare has made it impossible. His wife had baked him a cake but the autocratic regime stopped her from delivering it to him. We’re not yet free.

The regime continues to ruin the lives of innocent citizens through unconstitutional detentions without trial.

Happy 50th birthday our change change champion. We will continue to fight for your release,” said CCC.

Joana Mamombe also described Sikhala as a true freedom fighter.

“Celebrating 50th birthday of a REVOLUTIONARY Hon Job Wiwa Sikhala. A Fearless cadre in the face of imprisonment & trumped up charges, he still stands firm in his conviction that ZANU PF must be brought down.

I celebrate your life today FIGHTER, May you continue to Inspire even generations to come!
We miss you Hon Ken Saro-Wiwa.”

Said Mr Mnangagwa:

Prophet T Freddy Appears In A Video Turning Water Into Cooking Oil

By A Correspondent| Goodness and Mercy Ministries founder Prophet T Freddy yesterday left his congregants in awe after he performed miracles by turning water into cooking oil, flour and mealie-meal.

The miracle happened yesterday at his church service in Glen Norah.

In a video seen by ZimEye and already circulating on social media, T Freddy is seen standing in front of three buckets of water before asking one woman who had brought the containers whether she had brought water or something different.

“Alright, come and tell me mama, are you saying that you fetched water… so what is inside…. open and let’s see,” said T Freddy.

The woman responded confirming that she brought water before she got overwhelmed by emotions after opening the containers to notice that there was cooking oil inside.

“I fetched water in the evening and I brought it here as it is…” the woman responded.

Watch the video of the miracle below….
