Cleared Armed Robbers Face Retrial

Prosecutors at the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) say they will appeal a decision by Harare regional magistrate Mrs Gloria Takundwa to acquit four suspected armed robbers accused of being behind the theft of cash and property worth US$187 000 on three different occasions in Harare early this year.
This comes after Mrs Takundwa cleared suspects Alexio Mupamhura, Kallson Mabhonga, Tapiwa Zimbandu and Emmanuel Dylan Matiza of two counts of robbery and one count of armed robbery, citing lack of evidence.

However, NPA spokesperson, Ms Angeline Munyeriwa, said the State is dissatisfied with the decision as they strongly feel they had submitted sufficient evidence to secure a conviction.

“We are dissatisfied with the decision by the regional court because we believe we have strong evidence to get a conviction on appeal,” she said.

“We believe a higher court can reach a different judgement. So, as soon as we satisfy all the procedures, including transcribing the judgement, we will launch our appeal.”

Mupamhura, Mabhonga, Zimbandu and Matiza are said to have robbed Natasha Channel Naicker of her Subaru Legacy car on February 8 this year in Braeside, Harare.

The four are also said to have robbed Khumbulani Mulenga of his Isuzu KB single cab on February 14, before using it in an armed robbery the following day at Number 1 College Road in Alexandra Park, Harare.

In Alexandra Park, the four allegedly escaped with two safes containing US$11 907 and US$928, as well as other valuables.

In her judgement, Mrs Takundwa said the witnesses failed to identify the four and link them to the offences.

But the NPA insists it had submitted enough evidence to secure a conviction.

“The State presented evidence before the court in a bid to prove that the quartet went on a rampage early this year and committed a series of robberies on different occasions using a pistol and iron bars. The State’s allegations were that the quartet robbed the first complainant of her vehicle, a Subaru Legacy worth US$4 500, in Braeside.

“The second complainant lost an Isuzu KB single cab worth US$12 550 to the robbers, while the third complainant was robbed of US$142 342 and property worth thousands of dollars.

“The National Prosecuting Authority is dissatisfied with the court’s decision to acquit and believes that the prospects of success on appeal are high.”

Meanwhile, the NPA says it is closely following all robbery cases. -Sunday Mail

Kamambo Sends Strong Warning To ZIFA Boss

Former ZIFA president Felton Kamambo and other suspended executive members have warned the current FA boss, Gift Banda, against distributing football equipment purchased using FIFA funds.

Kamambo and ex-board members – Philemon Machana and Bryton Malandule – are facing corruption charges after the SRC accused the trio of mismanaging public funds.

The sport regulatory board suspended the three administrators in November last year, a development which attracted international sanctions on the country.

The suspended members have called on the interim ZIFA president Gift Banda to stop distributing anything received from FIFA in the previous administration as this could further strain the relationship with the world football body.

Kamambo and co. also believe the distribution would destroy evidence after allegations that they purchased poor-quality football equipment for grassroots development.

“It has come to our clients’ attention that at a meeting dubbed The Zifa EGM you arranged and attended together with your colleagues, and you resolved to distribute football equipment purchased using FIFA funds strictly for FIFA sanctioned programs despite previous communications from FIFA and CAF that you are to desist from utilising their financial resources,” the lawyers representing the suspended board members, Rubaya and Chatambudza wrote.

“Having previously helped yourselves to an amount equivalent to US$108 000 before you were directed through a letter by CAF and FIFA, we are at a loss as to why you and your grouping would proceed to agree to share the equipment from a donor (FIFA), who has not authorised you to do so, and who has previously stated that they do not recognise you as the legitimate leaders of Zifa and directed times without number that you should not utilise their resources.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Gruesome Murder Over Cellphone

A 37-YEAR-OLD Mutasa man last weekend gruesomely hacked his wife on the neck, shoulder, chest and mouth with a machete after she took his cellphone and unlocked it without his consent, hardly three months into the couple’s marriage.

Mirriam Joni (27) died on the spot from the injuries sustained during the brutal and heartless attack.

Police confirmed the murder which happened in Matsapa Village in Chief Mutasa’s area last week on Saturday.

Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident and said the suspect, Gwaramba Jimu, disappeared from the scene soon after committing the heinous act.

It is alleged that a few minutes before vanishing from the scene, Jimu instructed his mother, Ms Kandala Maluwiza (72), to take care of his children when he was gone.

“The two who were customarily married for three months had a domestic dispute after Joni took Jimu’s phone without his consent. After a heated altercation, Jimu went to his aunt, Ms Netsai Jolomile (48) of Mhandire Village, to ask her to solve the dispute.

“Ms Jolomile accompanied Jimu back to his home and she counselled the couple, advising them to live in peace. Ms Jolomile left the couple and went back home.

“On October 28, at around 2am, Jimu woke up and armed himself with a machete. He hacked Miriam several times on the shoulder, neck, chest and mouth,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.

He said after the heinous act, Jimu proceeded to his mother, Ms Maluwiza’s homestead in the same village and told her to take care of his children.

He then disappeared.

“Ms Maluwiza became suspicious and proceeded to Jimu’s homestead. Upon arrival, she saw Joni’s body lying in a pool of blood. She alerted other villagers.

“A report was made to the police who attended the scene,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.

The acting provincial police spokesperson appealed to members of the public with information leading to the arrest of Jimu to contact their nearest police station.

The True Story Behind Sinikiwe vs Hopewell Chinono

By Simba Chikanza | Did Hopewell create the Sinikiwe Katope Twitter account for a reverse promotion-hit so to hush down the real Sinikiwe’s witness testimony against him? How does someone who protects Auxillia Mnangagwa become a ZANU PF target, if it’s not for self promotion?

Hopewell-Chinono…

Within an hour of accusing Chin’ono, Sinikiwe on Twitter magically bounces back to announce, ‘I simply wanted to prove something,’ and wants the people to believe he isn’t at all Hopewell.

Such is the story concerning a female Twitter character who on Sat made threats to reveal DM chats of a love proposalby Hopewell Chin’ono and would within 2hrs, pull back from her claims and even announce so.

Hopewell Chin’ono is a well known mastermind of ID fraud, and in the space of under 2 years when he was reportedly doing cheque fraud, he changed his official name 3 times like a woman between 2000 and 2002.

All this is public domain data. The real Sinikiwe Mupfurutsa, is a UK nurse who knows Hopewell from his Marbolorough High childhood days (her relationship with her son was messed up by Chin’ono) and she is on video declaring her recollection of who he is. In Slough, Chin’ono is known by many including friends and community for illicit activities between 1997-2002, when he left UK before an arrest was possible and would once in Zimbabwe change his name, the 3rd time, afterwhich he would use money from the loot to create a journalism career for self, bit by bit with which he would return to UK under a different name hiding behind a Chevening scholarship. Does Chin’ono deny what his own family and closest friends say that even his Chisipite home was purchased from an edited cheque?

Now coming to the frauds I personally know, Hopewell Chin’ono is right now involved in the rigging of the 2023 elections and this is revealed in how he is publicly telling Chamisa to get election funds from Auxillia Mnangagwa’s aide Benson Muneri. He is even protecting Auxillia Mnangagwa’s convicted brother who’s an armed robber appointed to house at State House properties the criminals who shoot people during elections. He said he is serious about exposing corruption, but will never mention the name, Paradzai Kutyauripo, the same person he phoned me to protect while falsely claiming that I had blackmailed Auxillia by declaring an interview deadline at 9.29am on Sunday 15 May 2022. I have written extensively on this over the months and Chin’ono’s comment has been an accusation that I am working for a ZANU PF faction.

Piqu’e To Play Last Match For Barcelona

Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué announced retirement from football on Thursday to cap a glittering fourteen-year career.

The 35-year-old will play his last match for Barca this Saturday.

Pique did not give a specific reason for ending his career abruptly.

“It has been 25 years since I joined Barca, I left and I came back. Football has given me everything. I have always said that I would not be in any other team after I left Barca, and that is how it will be,” the defender said in a video on social media.

“This Saturday’s game will be my last at Camp Nou. I will become a regular fan. I will support the team. I will pass my love for Barca to my children, like my family did with me. And you know me, sooner or later, I’ll be back.”

Latest reports in Europe have suggested the real reasons behind Pique’s decision to retire.

According to Spanish football expert and LaLigaTV personality Guillem Balague, the decision is said to be football-related as well as helping Barca financially.

The defender will forgo around €40m that was due over the remainder of his contract.

The Catalans’ failure to qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League is said to be another reason behind the 35-year-old’s retirement.

Goal.com has also claimed that Pique took the decision after slipped behind Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia in the pecking order at Barcelona this season.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

What You Need To Know About Mental Health

New global WHO guidelines on mental health at work are reinforced by practical strategies outlined in a joint WHO/ILO policy brief.

WHO and the International Labour Organization (ILO) have called for concrete actions to address mental health concerns in the working population.

An estimated 12 billion workdays are lost annually due to depression and anxiety costing the global economy nearly US$ 1 trillion. Two new publications which aim to address this issue are published today – WHO Guidelines on mental health at work and a derivative WHO/ILO policy brief.

WHO’s global guidelines on mental health at work recommend actions to tackle risks to mental health such as heavy workloads, negative behaviours, and other factors that create distress at work. For the first time WHO recommends manager training, to build their capacity to prevent stressful work environments and respond to workers in distress.

WHO’s World Mental Health Report, published in June 2022, showed that of one billion people living with a mental disorder in 2019, 15% of working-age adults experienced a mental disorder. Work amplifies wider societal issues that negatively affect mental health, including discrimination and inequality. Bullying and psychological violence (also known as “mobbing”) is a key complaint of workplace harassment that has a negative impact on mental health. Yet discussing or disclosing mental health remains a taboo in work settings globally.

The guidelines also recommend better ways to accommodate the needs of workers with mental health conditions, propose interventions that support their return to work and, for those with severe mental health conditions, provide interventions that facilitate entry into paid employment. Importantly, the guidelines call for interventions aimed at the protection of health, humanitarian, and emergency workers.

“It’s time to focus on the detrimental effect work can have on our mental health,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “The well-being of the individual is reason enough to act, but poor mental health can also have a debilitating impact on a person’s performance and productivity. These new guidelines can help prevent negative work situations and cultures and offer much-needed mental health protection and support for working people.”

A separate WHO/ILO policy brief explains the WHO guidelines in terms of practical strategies for governments, employers and workers, and their organizations, in the public and private sectors. The aim is to support the prevention of mental health risks, protect and promote mental health at work, and support those with mental health conditions, so they can participate and thrive in the world of work. Investment and leadership will be critical to the implementation of the strategies.

“As people spend a large proportion of their lives in work – a safe and healthy working environment is critical. We need to invest to build a culture of prevention around mental health at work, reshape the work environment to stop stigma and social exclusion, and ensure employees with mental health conditions feel protected and supported,” said, Guy Ryder, ILO Director-General.

The ILO Occupational Safety and Health Convention (No. 155) and Recommendation (No. 164) provides legal frameworks to protect the health and safety of workers. However, the WHO Mental Health Atlas found that only 35% of countries reported having national programmes for work-related mental health promotion and prevention.

COVID-19 triggered a 25% increase in general anxiety and depression worldwide, exposing how unprepared governments were for its impact on mental health, and revealing a chronic global shortage of mental health resources. In 2020, governments worldwide spent an average of just 2% of health budgets on mental health, with lower-middle income countries investing less than 1%.

Muchemedzambuya Runs Out At Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo

By A Correspondent- The Chesvingo Karanga village stand was a hit at the just ended Sanganani/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo in Bulawayo as most exhibitors, particularly men, flocked to the stand to buy s_əx enhancing herbs to boost their libid0 and immune system.

Of particular interest and the biggest seller was the powerful herbal aphrodisiac or herbal s_əx enhancer called muchemedzambuya.

A Karanga Village tour guide Josias Shuro said there were three main s_əx enhancing herbs that received a lot of attention from exhibitors with the muchemedzambuya being the first to get finished.

“Muchemedzambuya is a powerful herb that is used by men to increase their sp_ərm count, for fast əjaculati0n and to give firmer erecti0ns. We received a lot of customers inquiring about it and to date people are still calling us for more, we regret coming with a small amount,” said Shuro.

He said after taking it one is ensured to be fiery with passion and free to enjoy unbridled s_əxual experiences.

Shuro said besides the aphrodisiac herbs they had different herbs for cancer, backaches and s_əxually transmitted infections.

“We also have different herbs for backaches and piles and these are mostly for women who have given birth to two or more children and suffer from back aches. These medicines are mixed with food.

The other herb that was on demand was the one that cures cancer, and most of the customers that we had were referred to us by people who once used our herbs. The herb is very effective and reduces the occurrences of procedures like amputation,” said Shuro.

Shuro said their herbs have no side effects and can be taken by anyone.

“Our medicines are 100 percent effective because we use natural herbs to help people with different conditions. We give customers our contacts so that we can constantly do check-ups on their condition and also send them more herbs in cases they need any,” said Shuro.

Chesvingo Karanga Village is located in Masvingo and is the centre for the preservation of Karanga Culture by the Karanga, a clan of Shona people. They are well known for subsistence agricultural field activities such as weeding and herding.

Zimbabwe National Traditional Healers Association (ZINATHA) president George Kandiero recommended the use of traditional herbs saying they were effective and had no side effects.

“These medicines are very effective, and most of them can be scientifically proven as they have been used for decades.

“The advantage of these medicines is that they have no side effects as compared to the conventional medicines which have side effects like damaging the system and creating a dependency syndrome,” said Kandiero.

Kandiero said the advantage of these traditional medicines was that they could cure conditions that the conventional medicines had failed to cure.

“As Zinatha, we take our time to investigate these s_əxual problems because some come in for excitement, some are born with s_əxual problems, and others adopted the problems on the way.

“Tablets cannot cure a man that has been bewitched, and as such our traditional medicines are effective as they are able to cure any disease regardless of the cause.

“There are men whose s_əxual problems emanate from jealous women who use witchcraft to ensure that they do not have any s_əxual partners and no tablet can deal with such a case. These conditions can only be resolved through the use of traditional medicine,” said Kandiero.

Former Banker Killed Over Cellphone, US$140

By A Correspondent- It started like any other day for Natasha Munyengwa Goremucheche, a devout Christian, a former banker and a finance officer at Christ Embassy Church in Belvedere, Harare.

On the morning of September 28, 2022, the 42-year-old widow left her place in Ashdown Park for work at near Belvedere Teachers’ College.

She caught a lift in the morning rush hour near Divaris Shopping Center where she intended to catch a connecting lift to Christ Embassy Church.

Little did Goremucheche know that the very next car will see her to the end of her life. Ruthless criminals lurked for prey; ready to pounce on innocent souls for money and if need be to kill in order to achieve the same.

Goremucheche’s aunt, Irene Goremucheche Nyathi narrated the harrowing story to The Mirror. Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed Goremucheche’s death and said a docket for murder has since been opened.

At Divaris, Goremucheche saw a lift at the bus stop and approached the driver who was alone in the vehicle and he confirmed that he was going her direction. She took a seat at the back of the small Toyota without taking particular interest on its make or colour.

A few metres away a man flagged down the car and he boarded and joined Goremucheche at the back. The car drove for about half a kilometre and suddenly Goremucheche was hit on the head with a fist and the man snatched her mobile phone and handbag.

Goremucheche however, pinned the man down and the driver seeing that his accomplice was losing out, pulled out an empty bottle and handed it over to his accomplice who hit Goremucheche hard on the nose with it.

She then pleaded to be dropped off since the two already got what they wanted but they drove her to the outskirts of Belvedere near Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) Training Center where they tied her hands with a belt and covered her face with her T shirt before dumping her in a shallow pit.

She was ordered not to attempt to leave the pit until after 20 minutes because she was going to be shot dead if she did.

She eventually managed to free herself and got help at the next homes about 200 metres away from the open space.

She made a Police report and got four stitches to the cut on her face at the Avenues Clinic. A week later she complained of dizziness and thereafter she could not see. An optician prescribed her some spectacles and her eyesight was restored but her dizziness worsened and she became mentally confused.

She was taken to hospital on October 13, 2022 where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police ordered a post-mortem which showed that Goremucheche suffered swollen brain.

It is heartrending that for a handbag, a mobile phone and US$140, her three children; two girls aged 10 and 16 and another child aged 21 have suddenly become orphans. They will grow without a mother.

Goremucheche was buried at Mabvuku Cemetery on October 18, 2022.

Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyati urged members of the public to avoid boarding unregistered vehicles. He also added that ‘mushikashika’ drivers are being arrested. MasvingoMirror

Tynwald High School Bus Driver Remanded In Custody

By A Correspondent- The arrested driver of the Tynwald High School bus that overturned in Nyanga on October 14, claiming seven lives, appeared in court in Nyanga on Thursday and was remanded in custody.

Chamunorwa Machimbidzofa (44) of Westlea, Harare, was playing hide-and-seek with law enforcement agents following the accident which claimed the lives of six learners on the spot and a Geography teacher who succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident this week.

Machimbidzofa was finally arrested this week and was not asked to plead to culpable homicide charges when he appeared before Nyanga magistrate, Ms Notebulgar Muchineripi. He was remanded in custody to November 17.

Appearing for the State, Mr Cuthbert Bhosha said: “On October 14, along the Rusape-Nyanga Road, Machimbidzofa was driving a Zhong Tong bus carrying 45 passengers on board. Upon approaching the 75km peg, Machimbidzofa failed to negotiate a curve and lost control of the bus.

“The bus then veered off the road and overturned several times before landing on its roof. This resulted in seven passengers being killed, while 39 others were injured. The Vehicle Inspection Department from Rusape was called to inspect the bus and compiled a report.

Findings show that Machimbidzofa drove the bus negligently by travelling at an excessive speed under the circumstances, failing to keep a proper look out of the road ahead, failing to keep the vehicle under proper control and failing to stop or act in a reasonable way when the accident seemed imminent.

Shocking Stats Of Rural Schools’ Students Drop Out

By A Correspondent- An estimated 63% of rural pupils reportedly dropped out of school this year, with girls in the majority, according to a latest research by Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (Artuz).

The findings are contained in an Artuz research document titled: Beyond geographies of inequality: Public Education Financing in Post-COVID-19 Zimbabwe.

“There are 63% of school dropouts in the rural areas and most of them are girls at secondary schools. The level of dropouts of girls which is continuously increasing is so disturbing. So when we look at this, it actually raises questions,” Artuz researcher Tamuka Chirimambowa said.

There is a lack of reading skills with 85% of schoolchildren lacking reading skills, while 86% lack numerous skills compared to the urban schoolchildren where only 19% lack reading skills and only 14% lack numerous skills.

“There is rural-urban divide inequality. In terms of digital infrastructure, schools in the rural areas lag behind. They are technologically behind. Physically, they don’t even have infrastructure like labs and this actually raises more challenges for the students.

A report by the Union of Education Norway in conjunction with the Zimbabwe Teachers Association a few months ago also revealed that there had been a 20% increase in school dropouts since 2020.

Another report by the United States embassy in 2021 said an estimated 840 000 schoolchildren quit school since 2020.

Chirimambowa added: “There is a shortage of school teachers. There is a shortfall of 20 000 teachers and this affects more rural schools because there are some teachers who wouldn’t want to go teach where there are poor services and poor infrastructure. Inappropriate teacher-pupil ratio is also worsening teachers’ incapacitation.

Recently, a global study ranked Zimbabwe’s education as one of the most expensive, leading to a rise in school dropouts.

According to a World Remit 2022 Cost of School report, the cost of education in Zimbabwe is six times higher than the total average income of an average family.

“On Wednesday police in Harare arrested Barbra Vimbai Chitisuro in connection with a case of theft of a motor vehicle which occurred in Harare, where she allegedly sold a Honda Fit vehicle (AFS 4457) which she had hired from a car rental company located at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.

The suspect had hired the car for a week and used a fake vehicle registration book to sell the car for US$4 000 to a Harare car dealer,” Asst Comm Nyathi said.

Police have since recovered the vehicle, which was on display at the car dealer’s garage.

Woman Bashes Hubby Over Own Nightclub Dance

By A Correspondent- A woman who bashed her husband and injured his eye after he caught her dancing at a night club in New Magwegwe suburb has been sentenced.

Siduduzile Tichabaiwa from Bulawayo’s New Magwegwe suburb was convicted and sentenced when she appeared before Western Commonage Court magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube for Contravening Section 3(1)(a)as read with section 4(1) (a) of Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16, physical abuse.

Siduduzile was fined $30 000 and has until 15 November to pay or serve four months behind bars.

The court heard that Kingdom Sibanda who is based in Gwanda where he does his mining activities came home unexpectedly and was shocked when he found the gate locked and a community member told him that his wife Siduduzile Tichabaiwa was at a night spot. He dashed there and was shocked to find her dancing, the court heard.

Kingdom took her home and quizzed her about why she was at the watering hole. Siduduzile fumed and in a fit of rage landed blows on him and severely hit him with a mug injuring his eye.

He reported the incident to the police leading to his wife’s arrest.

Catholic Priest In Trouble Over Burial Funds

By A Correspondent- A Roman Catholic Priest Father Thomas Kutwa, who is stationed in St Bernard’s Parish in the Old Pumula district, it never rains but pours.

He is in the middle of another controversy, only a week after a congregant accused him of beating and dressing down a congregant during a church service, accusing him of being behind a rash of thefts that had shaken the church.

This comes after a local family accused him of diverting funds intended for their late father’s burial costs to his personal use.

Bekezela Hadebe, a family spokesperson from Old Pumula, said when their father died in January this year, his funeral coverage with one of the top funeral service providers had expired.

Bekezela stated that they found out after his death.

“Because we didn’t have any money, we had to rely on our South African siblings for assistance.” They couldn’t work because they couldn’t afford to, so they had to run about and contribute what they could.

Father Thomas Kutwa then approached a local funeral home and negotiated a reduction in costs from R11 600 to R9 600. “After that, we gave him the money that had been provided, but it was insufficient,” she explained.

According to Bekezela, they spent a week looking for extra money, and it was at that time that an abroad well-wisher pitched in to help.

A well-wisher who is based in Europe phoned us after he heard that we were in need of money to cover our father’s funeral expenses and he offered to send us R9 600,” she said.

While the well-wisher was preparing to send the money, Father Kutwa phoned him and allegedly told him that he had already paid all the expenses.

“Father Kutwa phoned the well-wisher and told him that he had paid all the funeral expenses and he advised him to send the R9 600 to him as a reimbursement,” she said.

Bekezela added: “That was not true because the money that was used to pay for the funeral expenses was from relatives, community members and churchmates.”

She said the well-wisher repeatedly asked them if indeed Father Thomas Kutwa did not assist them with the money in question and they told him he never did that.

“I told the well-wisher that Father Kutwa never gave us money. I was hoping that he (Father Thomas Kutwa) would come and apologise to us and make a payment plan to return the money he took but he has not done that until today,” she said.

Father Thomas Kutwa declined comment.

“I cannot comment on that. I’m too busy at the moment,” he said. He also didn’t respond to WhatsApp messages sent to him.

Sticky Fingered Cop Nabbed Over Passport Fraud

By A Correspondent- A police officer assigned to the Bulawayo Central Police Station has been detained for allegedly defrauding desperate passport hopefuls out of US$440 and R600.

Sergeant Prosper Madzokera (36) allegedly targeted those seeking passports from outside of Bulawayo.

According to a source at the Bulawayo registrar’s office, Madzokera used his ZRP outfit to fool passport hopefuls, telling them that they had to believe him since he was a police officer.

According to the informant, Madzokera would arrive at the registrar’s offices early in the morning and wait at the entrance for desperate passport hopefuls.

“For quite a while he has not been going to work as he has been frequenting our workplace. He would approach mainly those people who would have come from the rural areas and tell them he had connections at the passport issuing offices,” said the source.

Speaking to B-Metro, one of the victims who identified himself as Dube, and said was from Lupane explained how he was allegedly duped by Madzokera.

“I arrived at the registrar’s office at around 6.30am last Tuesday and the queue was already long. While I was standing by the gate Madzokera came to me and told me he could assist me by getting my passport processed quickly.

“He said that I had to give him US$120 and R200 which he said was for processing. I gave him that amount and he disappeared,” said Dube.

A victim who also identified himself as Joel and said he was from Ascot Extension in Gweru said while he was in the queue to submit his passport application forms Madzokera approached him and said he could quickly process the passport for him.

“He told me that he was deployed there and he was well connected and he could help me get my application quickly processed. I believed him as he was in a police uniform and he even showed me his police identity card,” said Joel.

He added: “He then demanded US$130 and R200 which he said was for administration and I gave him.

He promised to give me a receipt after an hour but he never returned. I then reported the matter at Bulawayo Central Police Station.”

Another victim who requested not to be named and said he was from Nkayi, lamented: “He approached me and promised to help me process the passport as soon as possible. I then gave him US$130 and R200 which he said accompanied the application.

“He later returned and demanded US$50 and said it’s for urgent processing of the passport. After that I never saw him. When I realised that I had been duped that is when I reported the matter to the police.”

Efforts to get a comment from national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi were fruitless.

Madzokera is expected to appear in court soon facing fraud charges.

Mnangagwa Sets Up Museum On Top Of Gold Deposits

Satellite images dating back to 1985 show that the famed US$40 million Museum of African Liberation project is being constructed on a goldfield, the Zimbabwe Independent reported.

According to the satellite images, the terrain has however changed resulting in some people being displaced and compensated to pave way for the latest construction.

As reported by this publication last week, plans by Chinese firm Ming Chang SinoAfrica Mining Investments to ostensibly set up a multi-million-dollar brick moulding plan at the same site were reversed by the government, subsequently paving way for the museum project.

In 1924, a firm known as Golden Quarries used to mine gold on part of the 100-ha piece of land where the Museum of African Liberation is being constructed under the administration of the Institute of African Knowledge (Instak). At that time the Rhodesian government had registered 16 gold blocks in the area.

The site of the museum project sits at corner Samora Machel West Avenue and a road known as Golden Quarry.

Images gleaned by the Independent on Google Earth Pro, a software application that allows visualisation, assessment, overlay and creation of geospatial data graphically reveal how the terrain of the museum site has changed from a bushy area to the current land developments unfolding in the area. The coordinates of the museum site on Google Earth Pro are 17° 49′ 30.80″ south and 30° 58′ 37″ east.

As revealed by the satellite images, land development activities only appear visible in the area, which is now known as the Liberation City, in 2021, the year construction of the giant museum commenced.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa presided over the groundbreaking ceremony of the Museum of African Liberation project on December 3 2021.

To pave the way for the museum, various businesses were displaced from the Liberation City, while some, including businessman Phillip Chiyangwa, were compensated for a portion of land they used to own within the area.

Following a tour of the Liberation City this week by the Independent, Instak spokesperson Joseph Nkani confirmed that “it was not in dispute” that the area was once a gold mining site, but highlighted that the museum project developers adopted a “civil approach” to engage with people and businesses who were being displaced.

“That’s not in dispute (that gold mining used to happen on the site). We adopted a civil approach towards people who had legal papers proving that they had leased the various portions of land at the Liberation City. Of course, some did not have any papers supporting their occupancy at the museum site.

“Those who demonstrated that they had lease arrangements with the local authority were duly advised of the new project coming and were duly compensated,” Nkana said.

Some of the entities moved from the site and compensated include Westview Baptist Church, Ngoda Granite, ZimStrong and Kubatana Cooperative.

Compensation beneficiaries, Nkana said, also include, “various traders with separate names but administered under Kubatana Cooperative,” highlighting that, “financial compensation has also been advanced to them -their legal advisers can confirm this arrangement.”

Chiyangwa, Nkana told the Independent, had also been compensated for the 5,5-ha piece of land he owned in the area, to pave way for the Liberation City project, which will house the African Museum. Nkana did not disclose how much was paid to Chiyangwa and others.

During the tour, the Independent viewed a new block of ablution facilities across Golden Quarry Road, which Nkana said were built for traders under the Kubatana Cooperative stable while artists carrying out soapstone carving had also been moved. A borehole has also been drilled for those displaced.

“We have now built ablution facilities and sunk a borehole for them at their new site across Golden Quarry Road. Financial compensation has also been advanced to them…No exact figures on me right now (amount of compensation).

“But arrangements were mutually agreed and the parties are on the same page. There are no disputes,” Nkana told the Independent.

The Liberation City is envisioned to be supported by numerous recreational facilities and would be an ideal entertainment facility for visitors.

“The Liberation City (the broad term referring to the 101 hectares of land) where various commercial, recreational and amusement amenities will be established borders Samora Machel, Golden Quarry and Kirkman (now Solomon Mujuru),” Nkana added.

At the site of the museum, flags belonging to all the countries in Africa flap leisurely in the sky, as Instak forges ahead to transform the site into a major tourism drawcard. Space has also been set aside at the museum site to showcase decommissioned military armaments

The National Social Security Authority in partnership with Instak are also setting up a shopping mall which Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare minister Paul Mavhima said would create “a shopping experience in a safe congenial environment”.

An upmarket golf course will also be incorporated into the Liberation City, a luxurious hotel will be built while a skyrail connecting the site with the National Heroes Acre will be erected.

The Museum of African Liberation is meant to capture the African historical experience while immortalising the continent’s triumphant struggle against colonialism.

Instak, which is the project administrators, is a trust with a seven member board of trustees led by Ambassador Simbi Mubako.

Gokwe Man Struck Brother With Machete Over Land Dispute

A Gokwe man struck his brother to death with a machete following a dispute over a piece of land.

Jongwe Matsaukirwa (49) of Village Matsaukirwa, under Chief Chireya died on the spot after being struck with a machete by his younger brother Ruyamuro Matsaukirwa (42) as the two fought over a piece of land.

Police confirmed the incident.

“On 31 October 2022 around 7AM, Ruyamuro, who is the younger brother, was working in his field when his elder brother Jongwe approached him questioning why he was encroaching into his field,” said Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.

As a result, a misunderstanding ensued and quickly degenerated into a fight.

“Jongwe snatched a machete that Ruyamuro was using in the field and struck him once on the chin. The later however overpowered the now deceased, disarmed him and struck him on the back of the head and he died on the spot,” said police.

Chamisa Accuses Zanu PF Of Trying To Destabilize CCC

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa yesterday made sensational claims that Zanu-PF was bribing his lieutenants to destabilise the party ahead of the 2023 elections.

In a cryptic message posted on Twitter, Chamisa said disloyal members exposed for hobnobbing with Zanu-PF would be expelled from the party.

“A crazy season is upon us. Expect a lot of drama and shifts in the next months. Be vigilant. Watch out. They will and are compromising some even pouring in serious money into various pockets. Some will fall for it and fall by the wayside. Be careful! Act smart! Win Big!,” Chamisa tweeted.

CCC spokesperson Gift Siziba told NewsDay that their investigations have exposed machinations to infiltrate and destabilise the opposition party.

“We are aware of what our opponents are plotting,” Siziba said.

“The regime in Harare wants to have an opposition that they can lead themselves so they are using the Lenin strategy. They are escalating such machinations, but they have not worked and will never work. The opposition has emerged stronger, fit with more vigour and vitality and ready to govern.”

Zanu-PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa was not picking calls.

In the past Zanu-PF has proudly paraded opposition members who it alleged had crossed the floor.

Some opposition members who crossed the floor to the ruling party such as James Maridadi and Obert Gutu have been rewarded with government posts.

CCC currently has no formalised structures since the formation of the party early this year.

Chamisa and his foot soldiers said they would not be stampeded into having formal structures to avoid infiltration or violence targeted at office bearers.

Analysts, who spoke to NewsDay, said claims that opposition members were being bought with various trinkets by Zanu-PF were expected in the face of widespread poverty in the country.

Political analyst Eldred Masunugure said Zanu-PF had used the politics of the stomach as a strategy to infiltrate the opposition for decades.

“The one who can provide the biggest pie is likely to win the support of an individual. That is the politics of patronage and has become very common in Zimbabwe. Zanu-PF has financial resources, unlike Chamisa’s opposition party which has no funding,” Masunungure said.

“Chamisa’s fear is real and this explains why he has not come up with structures, a party constitution or refused to go for an elective congress which could be easy entries for Zanu-PF on infiltrating.”

Another analyst Vivid Gwede said some politicians were driven by greed for quick riches.

“Not everyone who is in politics is driven by a sense of duty… Some people are there for the money and will jump at every opportunity to get it. And as we know, Zanu-PF uses its control of State resources and it has always used this vantage point to lure people from the opposition,” Gwede said.

“What is even more pertinent is that people are suffering due to the economic meltdown, opposition politicians included, hence their readiness to jump ship at the earliest opportunity.”

RBZ Suspends Plans To Sell Fidelity Printers To Tagwirei

IN a dramatic policy U-turn, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has indefinitely suspended its plans to partially privatise Fidelity Printers and Refiners (FPR) nearly two years after announcing intentions to dispose its 60% controlling stake in the entity, the Zimbabwe Independent reported.

At the time of the widely publicised plan but which is now aborted, privatisation of the state-run gold buying firm was partly meant to plug widespread gold smuggling which is estimated to prejudice the country of US$1,5 billion annually.

Plans to sell the government’s 60% controlling stake in FPR were first announced by the RBZ in 2020 and reinforced during the course of 2021 with the primary purpose of boosting gold output by, “allowing private players to acquire a stake therein…”

If the partial privatisation plan had been carried out successfully, the central bank would have retained 40% in FPR.

In 2021, as authorities kept a tight lid on the identities of private players who were being assessed for their suitability to assume control over FPR, the Independent first revealed that Kuvimba Mining House, Better Brands, RioZim, Caledonia, Pan Africa Mining, Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) and Yellow Credit were potentially angling to take over the country’s sole gold buyer.

At that time, an ensuing investigative series by this publication revealed that the transaction, then valued at US$49 million, was derailed by reservations expressed by some of the private players over Kuvimba whose shareholding structure and beneficial owners remain shrouded in mystery.

As disclosed by sources close to the planned transaction, there were also fears that once privatised, the entity would be under the US sanctions radar.

Formed in 2020, Kuvimba is now among the country’s the largest gold producers having bought lucrative gold assets across the country, including the Shamva Mine, Freda Rebecca, and those of Elvington, Jena, Golden Kopje and Sandawana mines owned by Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation (ZMDC).

If the transaction had sailed through, Kuvimba was going to hold 12% equity in the reconfigured gold buying company.

RBZ governor John Mangudya last week told the Independent that the planned privatisation of FPR was “no longer a priority” to the apex bank.”The suspension of the privatisation of FPR was done by the RBZ board which deemed it necessary to retain FPR in its current state. The matter is no longer a priority to RBZ,” the Central bank boss told this publication. However, Mangudya did not explain why the government had a change of heart on its initial plans to cede its controlling stake in FPR. Questions posed by the Independent to Finance and Economic Development Secretary George Guvamatanga asking why the government was no longer interested in offloading

its shareholding in the state-run enterprise were not addressed at the time of going to print. Broadly, this publication also sought to understand how government intended to boost gold output in the country if FPR remains in its current state.

Treasury chief director of communications Clive Mphambela referred all questions to the RBZ. “FPR falls under the RBZ and the RBZ can clarify on all your questions,” he said. During Finance and Economic Development minister Mthuli Ncube’s mid-term review budget statement delivered in August 2021, he indicated that the unbundling process of FPR was already underway with 10 private players expressing interest in snapping up the government stake.

As part of the unbundling process, which has since been suspended, FPR was going to be split into two entities namely Fidelity Gold Refinery (FGR) and Printing and Minting Company of Zimbabwe (PMCZ).

At the time of the planned privatisation transaction, authorities had indicated that the ultimate plan was to remodel the entity in the same way as the Rand Refinery of South Africa which is owned by private shareholders.A myriad of challenges hampering gold production in Zimbabwe ranging from smuggling, informal mining operations and low producer prices were expected to be addressed by the then planned privatisation of FPR. In 2020, the central bank increased the gold retention threshold to 70% in foreign currency from sale proceeds from 55% in a policy move that was aimed at ramping up output. Under that gold trading matrix, producers of the yellow metal would receive 30% of their proceeds in the local currency at the prevailing exchange rate.

However, prior to that, the marketing framework stood at 55% in foreign currency while the remainder was paid in the local unit, sparking outrage from producers.

At the heart of their concerns, producers of the precious metal indicated that inputs and service providers were charging in the greenback. Coupled to that, mining firms also argued that upwardly reviewing the foreign currency thresholds would cushion them from the rising cost of fuel indexed in the greenback while they would also have the leg room to remunerate workers who were demanding wages in foreign currency.

Mnangagwa To Waste Taxpayers’ Money On A Whirlwind Global Tour Lobbying For A UN Security Council

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa is planning a whirlwind tour across the world as Zimbabwe launches an ambitious bid to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in 2027.

This was revealed by Foreign Affairs and International Trade minister Frederick Shava in his opening remarks to the Senior Management and Ambassadors’ Retreat and Strategic Planning Review in Bulawayo this week.

The UNSC consists of 15 members — five permanent and 10 non-permanent members — with the latter being elected by the UN General Assembly for two-year terms while five retire each year.

Mnangagwa launched an aggressive engagement and reengagement drive after winning the 2018 harmonised elections including concerted efforts to rejoin the Commonwealth.

“As we continue pushing for a renewed multilateralism fit for purpose and fit for its time, it is our responsibility, from wherever our workstations, to lobby for Zimbabwe to rejoin the UNSC.

“While His Excellency and myself would have whirlwind tours across the world to campaign for Zimbabwe as we draw towards 2026, the time to start lobbying for support is now. If it means trading horses or supporting other countries’ candidatures for international appointment in return for support for Zimbabwe’s bid, then let us begin doing that now,” Shava said.

Entrusted with maintaining international peace and security by the UN Charter, membership of the UNSC brings significant responsibility and the opportunity for global influence.

The council is called upon to tackle crises around the world and has the power to impose legally binding measures on UN members, including measures related to the use of force. The council is also responsible for overseeing the complex and dangerous work of the UN’s more than two dozen peacekeeping and political missions.

Many see the council as dominated by its five permanent members (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States), who, in addition to their veto power, can leverage their tenure, institutional memory and greater resources to determine council outcomes.

Despite this perception, the council’s 10 non-permanent members, collectively and individually, can, and do, make tangible contributions to the council and have the ability to influence its decisions.

Current and past non-permanent members have emphasised that being an effective non-permanent member requires seizing the opportunities provided by the council’s procedures, as well as the informal methods by which much of its work is undertaken. Shava noted that Zimbabwe’s diplomats had achieved Mnangagwa’s foreign policy objective to reengage the international community for Zimbabwe to rejoin the community of nations.

“We have achieved that goal. Zimbabwe has been readmitted into the Community of Nations. I have to declare that Zimbabwe is now a responsible and active member of the international community,” he said.

The Foreign Affairs minister added that rejoining the international community was also a precursor to bigger things to come.

He also reiterated that Zimbabwe would not be drawn into the “new Cold War” between Russia and the United States.

PSMI Struggling To Stay Afloat

Embattled Premier Services Medical Investments (PSMI) shut down 120 of its 155 facilities last month as the entity battled to settle a four-month salary arrears bill in a turbulent period that culminated in the closure of its flagship West End and Claybank hospitals in Harare and Gweru respectively as workers downed tools, the Zimbabwe Independent revealed.

The closure of the facilities has also been marked by the arrest of PSMI executives on allegations of defrauding the entity of millions of United States dollars at a time when the entity is struggling to offer services to its clients.

PSMI chief executive officer Farai Muchena, managing director Tafadzwa Gutu and other executives Victor Chaipa, Cosmas Mukwesha and Shingai Maputo in September appeared before the courts facing fraud charges.

With a subscriber base of about two million clients, the dramatic collapse of PSMI, particularly over the past four months, sources briefed this publication, is largely symbolic of the paralysis gripping Zimbabwe’s health delivery system.

A trove of documents gleaned by the Independent in a period stretching over four months shows that PSMI had only 35 of its 155 facilities still functional by October 21, 2022, when the workers declared incapacitation and subsequently stopped reporting for work.

bribery allegations levelled against the executives have since triggered a forensic audit into the affairs of PSmI by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission, the CID and the Zimbabwe revenue Authority, this publication can further reveal.

relating to the number of facilities which are still operational, a letter dated october 21 2022 by PSmI acting managing director Margret Maulana to staff members, shows that the entity, with 29 medical clinics dotted around the country had closed 21 of them, while only four of its 19 dental clinics were still functional.

In the correspondence, also furnished to the PSmI chairperson, directors, head of departments and the Premier Services medical Association (Psmas) managing directors, Maulana noted that widespread closures were sparked by “declaration of incapacitation” by restive workers.

PSmI is a unit that was formed in 2003 in pursuit of Psmas’ blue ocean strategy to forward integrate medical insurance into medical services provision.

“The declaration of incapacitation has resulted in most PSmI units closing down as practitioners and supporting staff could not afford to continue reporting for duty.

Man Gruesomely Kills Wife Over Phone Messages

Zanu PF In Plot To Eliminate Wiwa

Zengeza West MP Job Sikhala, and CCC national vice chairman, claims that the authorities want to keep him in detention beyond the 2023 general elections.

Sikhala, who celebrated his 50th on Sunday while in pre-trial detention at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison, believes the State wants to keep him in jail beyond general elections slated for July or August 2023. He said:

We obtained information beforehand that they want to keep us (Sikhala and Chitungwiza North MP Godfrey Sithole) until the 2023 general elections.

The purpose is very clear, they want to eliminate me from the national political equation for reasons best known to themselves.

Whatever they do will never defeat the endurance of my spirit to continue on the path of independence and freedom for our people.

Zimbabwe, in its current state, has been placed in the same situation as the one in which Ian Smith placed this country before.

In a statement that he released as a birthday message from prison, Sikhala said he draws inspiration from the fact that he is not the first to spend birthdays in prison. He wrote:

What gives me the utmost happiness is that I am not the first nor will I be the last political prisoner to celebrate their birthdays under persecution from an evil dictatorship. History is awash with such personalities.

Nelson Mandela spent 27 consecutive birthdays in prison; Dumiso Dabengwa 7; Lookout Masuku 7; Bakili Muluzu 10; Raila Odinga 10; and many other men and women of good standing.

Sikhala faces charges of obstruction of justice and inciting violence.

He has been in detention since 14 June 2022, when he was arrested for allegedly inciting violence.

Sikhala was arrested after he convened a prayer meeting for his deceased client and opposition party member, Moreblessing Ali, who was killed by Pius Mukandi, a man linked to ZANU PF.

He has applied for bail eight times at both the High and the magistrates’ courts but has been denied this constitutional right. | The NewsHawks

BUS ACCIDENT: Tynwald Driver Denied Freedom

The arrested driver of the Tynwald High School bus that overturned in Nyanga on October 14, claiming seven lives, appeared in court in Nyanga on Thursday and was remanded in custody.

“The traffic accident evaluator was also called to the scene and compiled a report.

“Findings show that Machimbidzofa drove the bus negligently by travelling at an excessive speed under the circumstances, failing to keep a proper look out of the road ahead, failing to keep the vehicle under proper control and failing to stop or act in a reasonable way when the accident seemed imminent.” –Herald

Herald Celebrates Zimbabwe’s Own Satellite Even Though Truth Is It’s NASA’s

Zimbabweans have always looked up into the night sky, but they never dreamed that one day the country would occupy space and “dance with aliens”. But in a few hours, the fantasy the nation had never conjured up — that is until President Mnangagwa came into power — will become reality.
On October 4, 1957, Russia became the first country to launch the first artificial satellite, Sputnik 1, into space. That “colonisation” of space fuelled a technological sprint that saw the United States and other countries follow suit in exploring space.

At 11am tomorrow Zimbabwe will join the league of nations that have launched satellites into space when it sends its first satellite, ZimSat-1, into orbit after developing it through the BIRDS project.

The Live coverage and countdown commentary will begin at (11:30am Zimbabwe Time) 5:30 a.m. EST on Sunday, November 6, and air on NASA Television and the agency’s website, as well as YouTube, Twitter, and NASA’s App.

The launch of ZimSat-1 is a culmination of a process that commenced in 2018 when President Mnangagwa launched the Zimbabwe National Geospatial and Space Agency (ZINGSA). The development is part of the country’s plan to meet other nations and become an upper-middle-income economy by 2030. President Mnangagwa pledged more support to ZINGSA to see the growth of a technology innovation environment that supports the development and use of new technologies.

It is also a milestone that will enhance mineral exploration and monitoring of environmental hazards and droughts. Additionally, it will aid in mapping human settlements and disease outbreaks, among other capabilities.

ZimSat-1, a nanosatellite, will deploy from the Japanese KIBO Module after a long delay caused by Covid-19. The satellite is a 1U educational and amateur radio mission CubeSat manufactured under the Kyushu Institute of Technology in Japan. Many experts consider the programme the first baby steps of the country’s fledgling space programme.

ZINGSA co-ordinator Painos Gweme said the launch will kick-start the transformation of Zimbabwe.

“The first one is the rocket leaving earth to the international space station where it is going to dock and take out the cargo into the international space station. And this one is going to start on 6 November. The actual deployment of ZimSat-1 into space will be through the Japanese module.

“Remember we are doing this satellite development together with the Japanese. It is going to be deployed in the KIBO module, it happens after two-three weeks after this November 6 and we have scheduled for November 21. There can be some changes, it is not definite and guaranteed that on November 26 it is going to get into deployment. It will depend on the weather and other issues.”

The launch of a Japanese space ship

Gweme said the country will use the satellite to access real time information that can aid development.

“This has a multi-sectoral camera which has a remote standing camera which we are going to use primarily for agricultural application, crop yield estimation, land cover and land use. We can see our forestry and the change over time because it has what we call a store and forward mission as part of the pilot which we are going to use together with the ground centre terminal,” said Gweme.

The satellite has sensors which can be used to sense humidity and this information can be downloaded at the ground station in Mazowe, Mashonaland Central. It can also be used for urban and rural planning.

The work towards occupying space has seen three Zimbabwean scientists being trained. They will be in charge of the satellite launch programme.- Herald

Hubby Accuses Wife Of Bringing Boyfriend Home

A HARARE woman was yesterday granted a protection order against her husband who assaults and harasses her in front of their children.

Magistrate Tamara Chibindi granted the order to Loice Rapozi who dragged Jonathan Mudzagada to the Harare Civil Court.

Rapozi told the court that her husband insults and beats her in front of their children whenever he gets drunk. She said that the children were now afraid of him and she was tired of the abuse.

“Whenever my husband comes back home drunk he beats me up and harasses me in front of children by calling me a pr0stitute.

“Moreover, he does not allow me to attend funerals let alone socialise with others in the community.”

In response, Mudzagada tried to justify himself saying that his wife was promiscu0us and that if she wanted to continue with that behaviour it was better she divorces him.

“Your honour, this is my wife for 13 years and I only beat her once on October 10 after she had brought her boyfriend to my house.

“If she prefers to continue having boyfriends it is better she leaves my house,” he said.

Sikhala’s 8th Bail Bid Hits Brick Wall

By- The High court has denied Zengeza West legislator Job Sikhala bail for the 8th time.

Sikhala is accused of obstructing the course of justice.

This was Sikhala’s eighth attempt on bail without success.

Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa announced the development in a court update this Friday. Read the update seen by Pindula News:

The continued persecution of our members by the regime in Harare using the courts must be condemned in its entirety. Our MP @JobSikhala1 who’s facing trumped-up charges of obstructing the course of justice has been denied bail by the High Court for the 8th time.

Hon Job Sikhala, Hon Godfrey Sithole & the #Nyatsime16 members’ continued persecution chronicles the deteriorating democratic space under Mr Mnangagwa. Our champions’ persecution history shall be difficult to erase & these are the heroes of our current revolution,4th Chimurenga.

Sikhala has been in prison since June when he was arrested and charged with inciting public violence which erupted in Nyatsime on 14 June during the funeral wake of slain CCC activist Moreblessing Ali.

ZEC Demands Cash To Release Voters’ Roll

By-The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has demanded US$187 000 from a local independent election watchdog for the release of a hard copy of the voters’ roll.

Election Resource Centre (ERC) director Babra Bhebe told stakeholders at a delimitation conference in Bulawayo yesterday that they received the invoice after requesting a quotation from the electoral management body, NewsDayreported. Bhebe said:

As ERC we submitted a request to Zec to have access to the voters roll that it is going to use for the delimitation process. We received a response that it can only give us the hard copy. We then went ahead and requested an invoice and we got a quotation of above US$187 00 for us to be able to access the voters roll.

We think that this is way too much. Given the cost of the hard copy, it will be difficult for any stakeholder to acquire it and this puts into question whether Zec is willing to have anyone scrutinise the voters’ roll.

ZAPU election secretary Kevin Mapanda said the fee was too high for any political party adding, “The problem is that ZEC only engages the ruling Zanu PF party and this delimitation process is going to cause confusion.

MDC Alliance national deputy organising secretary Mukombwe Dube echoed Mapanda’s remarks saying ZEC’s fees were meant to deprive other political parties of access to the voters’ roll.

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) national deputy secretary for elections Ellen Shiriyedenga also said ZEC should have consulted before gazetting the fees.

CCC leader Nelson Chamisa said only a credible, auditable and affordable voters roll would lead to a free and fair election. He posted on Twitter:

A credible voters’ roll is non-negotiable. By all means necessary, getting a verified, certified and audited copy of the voters’ roll is a must. By law, the voters’ roll is biometric. Levying a cost to limit access is unacceptable. It’s a fight for a credible election.

ZANU PF director of commissariat, mobilisation and elections Kizito Kuchekwa said they respected the independence of ZEC despite having their own concerns against the electoral management body.

ZEC spokesperson commissioner Jasper Mangwana, however, said a cheaper electronic format would be available “soon”.

Mangwana said there were currently no legal provisions on how the independent audit demanded by CCC could be done, he told NewsDay.

He added that the “alleged facts around rigging are impossible.”

ZEC chief elections officer Utoile Silaigwana said the prices are not set by ZEC, “but they are gazetted by the laws of Zimbabwe. Zec simply follows the rules.”

This comes as data analysts are calling for the inspection of the voters’ roll amid reports that there are anomalies that can affect the credibility of the 2023 elections.

Election stakeholders including Team Pachedu claim that ZEC intends to manipulate election processes in favour of the ruling ZANU PF.

Chaos At Bulawayo Chiefs Shop As Footballer’s Wife Demands Cash

Things might not be smooth sailing for Bulawayo Chiefs after all, amid revelations that one of their players’ wife stormed the club’s sports apparel shop demanding replica jerseys to sell, so as to make ends meet.

Chiefs, who are known for their extravagant way of doing things in the Zimbabwean top-flight league which has plumented along with the country’s economy, have reportedly been struggling to pay players salaries and signing on fees.

The Chronicle reports that the woman in question invaded the shop, located in Bulawayo, and demanded replica jerseys to sell, so as to make ends meet in the wake of the club failing to pay salaries.

The woman’s actions then forced Chiefs to close the shop.

Cheifs players have reportedly not been paid their salaries in the last four months, with senior players such as Kelvin Madzongwe and the Moyo twins, Kelvin and Elvis not attending every training session.

The setback might affect Amakhosi’s preparations for their Chibuku Super Cup final against Herentals College on November 19.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Key Mental Health Guidelines

Property Mogul In Ambitious Program To Transform Zim Into A Mini Dubai

West Property chief executive Ken Sharpe said the company has launched an ambitious program of transforming Zimbabwe into a mini Dubai with state of the art houses and malls.

Speaking during a CEO Round Table in Victoria Falls, the maverick businessman said plans are under way of committing 1 billion bricks in building houses in Zimbabwe.

“I represent arguably one of the biggest property development companies in Zimbabwe sitting on well over 500 ha of prime land for mixed use lifestyle estates incorporating residential, sporting amenities and commercial developments. We are building tens of thousands of value-added residential properties for the people under the mantra “Bringing Dubai to Zimbabwe” with one billion bricks,” he said.

“We are geared towards channelling our resources into building Zimbabwean homes because we believe that the home is the soul of the nation. We believe in giving title because shelter is one of the surest inheritances for our families in as much as title guarantees security of tenure.”

Sharpe said the company believe in creating a harmonious environment where clients can live, work, shop and play in a neighbourhood that is both a gated community offering security and comfort as well as the convenience of being able to walk from your house to your work place, to the shops and have the recreational amenities surrounding the nearby landscape.

“We are the leading developer in Zimbabwe of premium lifestyle estates which are integrated and mixed-use communities,” he said.

“Our developments can best be described as smart cities, digital cities, wired cities, intelligent cities among a host of other adjectives used to describe the modernity and luxury lifestyle we are introducing.

“We are building neighbourhoods where people can live, work, play and shop in. We are bringing completeness, self- sustaining neighbourhoods and safe communities for women and children. Neighbourhoods with indoor sports facilities, workstations, shopping malls, internet connectivity and green energy in the form of solar energy and above all a lifetime experience to live in style,” he added.

The property guru also revealed massive projects that the company has undertaken. Some of the projects are Millennium Park, Pomona City and Warren Hills Residential.

“We have a vision to commit one billion bricks by 2050 which was developed when I was at Harvard Business School in the United States of America. So far 41 million bricks are being put in the ground. The vision resonates with the 2050 population boom as highlighted by UN Habitat which estimates that half the world population would be residing in urban centres in search of better opportunities,” he added.

Mnangagwa In Plot To Eliminate Sikhala ?

Legislators Demand Ministerial Statement On Itai Dzamara

By A Correspondent| Opposition legislator Willias Madzimure yesterday demanded a ministerial statement from Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe on the whereabouts of abducted activist Itai Dzamara saying the family needed closure on the issue.

Madzimure reminded Kazembe that he promised to bring a ministerial statement on what the state had concluded with regards to the pro-democracy campaigner who was abducted on 5 March 2015.

“I just want to remind the Minister of Home Affairs because he promised to bring the Ministerial Statement regarding how they have concluded the investigations on the
disappearance of Itai Dzamara. The matter must be brought to closure because the family is not sure where the whole matter is and it will be better if he is declared dead so that they do the rituals and the matter is put to rest. The Minister promised long back and I even asked this past month for him to come and give a Ministerial Statement but this has not been done. Could the Minister be reminded to bring that Ministerial Statement because it is important for the family to know where the State is now and if he is dead, then he is declared dead?,” said Madzimure.

Dzamara was abducted at a barber shop in Glen view and has not been found. He was a fierce critique of the Robert Mugabe administration.

Mavaza: President Mnangagwa Scores His First International Goal

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | The trip by His Excellency the president of Zimbabwe to Ivory Coast was a coherently knit masterly of a diplomatic masterstroke exuding authority, expertise and solomonic wisdom. This is… navigating the thorny political and economic terrain with the requisite panache and gravitas.

Dr Masimba Mavaza

President Mnangagwa widened the gap between fiction and fact when he laid bare the true situation in Zimbabwe. In his rallying economic war cry “Zimbabwe is open for business,”President Mnangagwa tells Ivory Coast forum that the Gap between perception and reality has narrowed due to political and macroeconomic reforms, president says. Zimbabwe is open for business and investing in the country is not as risky as many think, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said at the Africa Investment Forum (AIF) in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on Thursday.

Zimbabwe has vast resources, so it is the government’s mission “to explain ourselves” and inform investors that Zimbabwe is a safe destination for investment. CDE Munangagwa has confounded his critics and increased Zimbabwe’s lion’s share of the economic benefits on the world and regional platforms. It is not a secret that President ED Mnangagwa commands great support both in the country and outside the country. The reengagement project has lifted Zimbabwe from the dust of sanctions to the dazzling heights of economic development. He is single handedly uniting the country with other international actors.

The President while in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire indicated that Zimbabwe has introduced radical economic reforms that are investor friendly, and offering incentives on investment. Zimbabwe, under cde MNANGAGWA and ZANU PF “has turned the corner in its re-engagement efforts with the international community leading to a marked change in perceptions on the global arena, thus attracting foreign direct investment. “
Before the new dispensation and the second Republic Zimbabwe attracted very little investment but more controversy.

President Mnangagwa was upright in noting that his Government was aware that capital is fearful, and, therefore, averse to volatility of any nature, hence the implementation of comprehensive reforms by his Government. Zimbabwe marches to progress pulling the whole world with it.

The calling point in economic development is to have no enemy and be a friend to all.

MNANGAGWA has turned ZANU PF’s fortunes for better even for the best. Before the new dispensation the party was some way from being able to command a unity of purpose so was the country. ZANU PF  has articulated a vision of reengagement and has wooed the international world and investors into coming to Zimbabwe. Through ED MNANGAGWA Zimbabwe has managed to get over the intellectual defensiveness international blockade which has afflicted it for decades – and reach out to investors who were confused by the self destructive mode we as a nation had pressed.
“Through the Second Republic, things have changed drastically. Zimbabwe now has a policy; its foreign policy is to engage and re-engage. Under MNANGAGWA Zimbabwe is engaging with all nations of the international community under the slogan “ZIMBABWE IS A FRIEND TO ALL AND AN ENEMY TO NONE.”
While we bask in the prosperity of our reengagement success we have to fight an insurgent campaign within led by the opposition. in which the vultures deftly exploit their status as the underdogs yet they are killers within the country appears to have excited young people as well as so-called ‘left behind’ voters in ways not seen for decades. Where Zimbabwe exceed expectations is its ability to fashion a distinctive, eye-catching reengagement that captured the imagination of the investors and distanced the country from its potentially ‘toxic’ legacy of hogging the wrong limelight.

The president said “We realised that global capital can only go to economic predictions where they feel comfortable. So, we have instituted comprehensive economic reforms in the country in order to be competitive. And, I can assure you that we are receiving more investment now than even before sanctions.”
The ZANU PF culture has always been you and me we have a job to do.  The president is already doing his job.

The President’s tactic is evidently appealing to many nations and indeed Zimbabwe has bounced back. The dynamic here is that ZImbabwe must project hope and togetherness because our programmes are not constrained by conventional electoral calculation; Zimbabwe is offering a different vision of society after decades of spending tax rises, and missed deficit reduction targets. The country now has a view on policy which articulates a combination of clarity and conviction. The president is offering an innovative politics of participation which is about doing things ‘with’ people rather than ‘to’ them, sweeping away anachronistic institutions and inherited privilege; as being carried forward this might has become the platform for a resurgence of the nation under a gifted able leader.

We must get over the intellectual defensiveness that has plagued the country since 2000 we need an open debate about policy. Making enemies as a country risks denuding the country of the capacity to think and revitalise itself. We must make the most audacious shift the centre ground of politics towards reengagement and towards the people.
Those nations who are bitter with each other must dismount from their high horses and pull for international unity.
The opposition sits and see the country being torn apart by ego.  They are watering their ego with the waters of destruction. Because of their thinking or lack of it the opposition is destroying the very country we call ours.

Elections are not won by individuals but by all of us. Praise singing must stop and will never improve us. The nation is the people and the people are the Nation.

Zimbabwe is proud of the president and his effort to reengagement.

Zimbabwe is the only country we can call ours.

BREAKING- Fatal Accident Along Seke Road

By A Correspondent-A fatal accident at the intersection of Cripps and Seke roads has claimed the lives of two people, ZimEye can exclusively reveal.

The accident, involving a seemingly brand new kombi which was yet to have number plates and an Inter Africa bus occurred at around 5:35am.

The kombi was coming from town heading towards Chitungwiza while the Mutare bound InterAfrica bus was coming from Mbare.

An eyewitness who was at the scene of the accident when it happened told ZimEye:

“The robot changed to amber and red when I was meters away from the intersection and I slowed down to stop. I was coming from Chitungwiza.

The kombi was coming from town and the driver did not stop at the robot but proceeded against the red robot.

The Inter Africa bus driver since he had the right of way proceeded and did not see that the kombi was driving against a red robot and he hit the kombi from the driver’s side.

It happened in a split of a second and the driver died on the spot while the other lady sitting on the front seat also died.

The other female passenger that I saw was still alive but she was struggling to breathe.

When I left the scene, the bus driver was wailing regretting why the kombi driver proceeded against a red robot but his cry was in vain because the kombi driver died.

It was a sad scene and I am yet to recover from the horror that I witnessed.

Drivers, let us drive with extreme caution on the roads to avoid loss of lives.”

Efforts to get a comment from the police was work in progress by the time of writing.

Teachers In Trouble For Assaulting Pupil

By A Correspondent- Two teachers at Haig Park Primary School in Harare appeared in court on Monday for allegedly assaulting a 10-year-old pupil.

The teachers, Christ Makonese (50) and Memory Gwekwerere (54) appeared before Harare magistrate Caroline Matanga, who remanded them to 8 December for trial.

Allegations are that on 11 October, some learners went and reported to Makonese that the complainant had started a false rumour against another pupil.

The duo called the complainant and Makonese allegedly slapped her once on her cheek while Gwekwerere pinched her ears before slapping her again.

The complainant’s class teacher, Mrs Kamkosi, then told the two that her mother doesn’t want her to be beaten.

Makonese and Gwekwerere were released on free bail as they were brought to court on summons.

Suspected Armed Robbers Cleared Of USD187K Heist

Harare regional magistrate Mrs Gloria Takundwa has acquitted four suspected armed robbers who were accused of being behind the robbery of cash and property worth US$187 000, including two cars, on three different occasions in Harare early this year.

Mrs Takundwa cleared Alexio Mupamhura, Kallson Mabhonga, Tapiwa Zimbandu and Emmanuel Dylan Matiza on two counts of robbery, and another count of armed robbery.

She acquitted them saying the State had failed to produce enough evidence linking them to the offences.

In her judgment, Mrs Takundwa said the witnesses failed to identify the four and link them to the offence.

Mupamhura, Mabhonga, Zimbandu and Matiza were said to have robbed Natasha Channel Naicker of her Subaru Legacy car on February 8 this year in Braeside, Harare.

They were also alleged to have robbed Khumbulani Mulenga of his Isuzu KB single cab on February 14 before using it in an armed robbery on the following day at No. 1 College Road, in Alexandra Park, Mt Pleasant, Harare where they went away with two safes with US$11 907 and US$928 grabbed from the drawer and other valuables.

The State led by Mr Loveit Muringwa had alleged that on February 9 at around 2:45pm, the quartet, in the company of Tendai Ruchiyo, parked their Toyota Harrier car in front of Naicker’s Sabaru Legacy that was parked along Malta Road in Braeside, Harare, with keys on the ignition.

One of them got into the car and Naicker, who was standing nearby, rushed to her car and clung onto the driver’s door.

She wrestled with the suspects, but one of them twisted her hand and shoved her off the moving car.

On February 14 at around 0350hrs, the quartet allegedly tracked Murenga, who was driving his Isuzu (ADY2233) from Strathaven Shops along Eddison Zvobgo Drive (formerly Quendon Road) on his way home.

It was alleged that when Murenga was near Zambezi Flats in Mabelreign negotiating some potholes, the four blocked him with two Honda Fit cars while two of them disembarked and dragged him out of the car.

They assaulted Murenga and stole his Samsung Galaxy A72 cellphone and drove away in his Isuzu.

On February 15 at around 0300hrs, the quartet, armed with a pistol, allegedly drove the two cars they had robbed Naicker and Murenga to No. 1 College Road in Alex Park, where they manhandled the guard manning the premises.

It was said they threatened to shoot him, demanding to know where the company money was being kept.

The court heard that they tied the security guard using an electric cable and left one of them guarding him while others went to break into the offices, before stealing two safes containing US$11 907 and US$129 507 and US$928 taken from the drawer.

They also allegedly stole a 55-inch Telefunken plasma TV, HP desktop, DStv decoder, MacBook desktop, CCTV DVR and its monitor, 3x US3000 C Pylon batteries, 13 x 5kW inverters, 2x 7.2 kW inverters, 26 panel rails, grinder, tool kit, HP laptop and other valuables.

It is said they loaded the loot into the Isuzu and Subaru vehicles and drove away, leaving the guard tied.

The court heard that they drove to Hukuru Farm in Ruwa where they intended to share the stolen money.

At around 5am some farm workers who were nearby, became suspicious and alerted Ruwa police officers.

Police went to the farm where the quartet dumped the Subaru, safes with one of them which was still intact and they drove off in the Isuzu towards Harare city centre.

It was said that the police officers pursued them.

The court heard that the Isuzu developed a mechanical fault in Sunningdale, forcing them to abandon it and took to their heels.

According to the State, Mupamhura’s feet failed to take him far before he was apprehended and US$3 540 was recovered from him.

Mupamhura later implicated Mabhonga, Zimbandu, Matiza and one Tendai Ruchiyo, who remains at large.

It was the State’s case that detectives recovered 2×7.2 kw inverters, HP laptop, HP desktop, MacBook desktop, 3x US3000C Pylon tech batteries, grinder, CCTV DVR box monitor DStv decoder from the Isuzu.

An unopened safe with US$11 907 was also recovered in the same car.

A pair of black and orange shoes, a black hood jacket, which he was putting on during the robbery and was captured on CCTV camera at the place of scene, was also recovered from Mupamhura.

On the same day, detectives made follow ups in Mbare leading to the arrest of accused Mabhonga and Zimbandu, who were intending to sell part of the stolen 5x 5kw inverters to one Tawanda Ishmeal Zimbandu.

Zimbandu was interviewed and he implicated the other members of his gang.

He then led to the recovery of US$1 675 and a new Honda Fit, which he had bought with part of the stolen money.

Zimbandu was also interviewed and told the police that he was yet to receive his share, as he was left behind collecting the inverters in Borrowdale while his accomplices had gone to share the money at Hukuru Farm in Ruwa.

He then led detectives to Chitungwiza where they arrested Matiza, who also led to the recovery of US$2 900 and a new Honda Fit, which he had bought with the stolen money.

The State alleged that the four led to the recovery of the Subaru and other valuables in Mbare and Ruwa.- Herald

CCC Piles Pressure On Mnangagwa To Implement Reforms

ELECTORAL REFORMS : We continue to demand electoral reforms. One of the key pillars in our #PREPARE is the Credibility of the Voters Roll.

The Voters roll must be timeously accessible & independently audited to enhance transparency, scrutiny, & effective planning on the part of political stakeholders.

The voters’ roll to be used on election day must be authenticated and signed off by all contesting parties, candidates, or their designated agents. This is best
practice in SADC.

Copies of the signed Voters roll (with pictures) must be given to party agents on election day to verify and authenticate voters. Allow for external audit of the voters’ roll by a reputable audit firm agreed upon by all parties.

The voters’ roll must be availed to stakeholders not more than four (4) working days upon request and payment of prescribed fees.

Successfully nominated candidates should be given copies of the voters roll to be used on election day within four (4) days after the sitting of the Nomination Court.

Persons with Disabilities and all voters that qualify for voting assistance must be inscribed on the voters’ roll.

A separate list of persons requiring assisted voting must be availed to polling agents of contesting parties for verification purposes on Election Day.

Transparent updating of the voters’ roll should include stakeholder access to logs, the person making changes on the voters’ roll, when such changes were made and evidence to support the changes.

Stakeholders should be accorded the opportunity to observe and monitor the voters roll de-duplication processes.

The voters’ roll given to stakeholders must have pictures and be formatted in such a manner that allows for audit and planning.

Sikhala Speaks On Political Assassination

By-CCC national vice chairman and Zengeza West MP Job Sikhala, and that the authorities want to keep him in detention beyond the 2023 general elections.

Mnangagwa Bribes Chamisa Aides

By-CCC leader Nelson Chamisa on Tuesday claimed that ZANU PF is dishing out huge sums of money to senior opposition figures to destabilise the party ahead of the 2023 elections.

Posting on Twitter, Chamisa revealed that he has no doubts some of his colleagues will accept the cash and betray the party’s supporters. He said:

A crazy season is upon us. Expect a lot of drama and shifts in the next months. Be vigilant. Watch out.

They will and are compromising some even pouring in serious money into various pockets. Some will fall for it and fall by the wayside. Be careful! Act smart! Win Big!

CCC spokesperson Gift Siziba told NewsDay that they were aware of ZANU PF’s plans to infiltrate and destabilise CCC. He said:

We are aware of what our opponents are plotting.

The regime in Harare wants to have an opposition that they can lead themselves so they are using the Lenin strategy.

They are escalating such machinations, but they have not worked and will never work.

The opposition has emerged stronger, fit with more vigour and vitality and ready to govern.

In the past, ZANU PF has, during its political rallies, paraded opposition members who crossed the floor.

Some opposition officials who defected to ZANU PF and have been given government positions include James Maridadi and Obert Gutu.

University of Zimbabwe political science lecturer Eldred Masunugure said Chamisa’s fear of infiltration is justified as ZANU PF has used money to infiltrate the opposition for decades. He said:

The one who can provide the biggest pie is likely to win the support of an individual.

That is the politics of patronage and has become very common in Zimbabwe.

ZANU PF has financial resources, unlike Chamisa’s opposition party which has no funding.

Chamisa’s fear is real and this explains why he has not come up with structures, a party constitution, or refused to go for an elective congress which could be easy entries for ZANU PF on infiltrating.

Why Final Fantasy 9 Deserves Your Attention Too

Final Fantasy is known for one character over all other main protagonists, Cloud Strife. Smash players, Kingdom Hearts fans and gamers in general know the name. What about Zidane Tribal? Zidane is the main protagonist of Final Fantasy 9, a thief who looks out for friends and family, welcoming all those who welcome him. He has little in comparison to Cloud, boasting a tail and two daggers as his choice of weapons. Not only that, but silence is not an option for young Zidane, speaking as much as Barret would. The point is that I need people to stop overlooking one of Final Fantasy’s most creative games, Final Fantasy 9.

The town square in one of Final Fantasy 9’s locales.

Yes, Final Fantasy 7 is fantastic and subjectively the greatest that the series has to offer. Yet, people forget that the series didn’t start with seven and didn’t end with it either. Final Fantasy 9 sees Zidane and his buddies of Tantalus, a group of traveling thieves, off to steal Princess Garnet for their own buck. They go through all the trouble of entering a play to distract the gigantic crowd at a festival, with Zidane and his buddy from Tantalus, Blank, fighting each other with swords for the Queen’s amusement. In this time, it allows them to receive cheers from the roaring crowd and diplomats, eventually stealing the Princess from her home along with other unwelcome guests. Steiner, Princess Garnet’s guard, sneaks on board in pursuit of the princess and her kidnappers. Unfortunately, their ship crashes into a very evil forest, petrifying Blank who sacrificed himself in protection of Zidane from a forest spider. That is just the beginning of Final Fantasy 9!

Throughout the adventure of a group of misfits and outcasts, including the princess, we are greeted by mystical vistas and gigantic creatures of the night. Not only that, but we are introduced to one of gaming’s saddest characters, Vivi Ornitier! When I say saddest, I mean that no character has quite the full circle like Vivi does. He starts off as a quirky, loving character who wants nothing more than to know his worth and learn what life or love are about. What ensues after he meets our party is him finding the truth out about his people, and how he is destined to expire. Not only that, but his adoptive father raised him as a source of food to eat when he got hungry! Vivi has a past of cruelty and a future of shock. His name being a symbol in voodoo black magic, players should only guess about what his future is destined for and where it will take him.

The reason I love Final Fantasy 9 is for the silliness and happiness it invokes along the way, being akin to a children’s story. All children’s stories have darkness lurking in the background and hidden meanings for adults. This iteration is no different, providing players with a loving time of wisdom but a story of sorrow. Zidane is a character who keeps the player guessing and wondering on how he will get out of each situation with his band of misfits and the girl he falls in love with. Princess Garnet, who becomes “Dagger”, is another source of growth in a game all about growing up. Steiner, a father figure, tests his cowardice against the forces of the world to protect the ones he loves. Vivi, a lost soul, looks for meaning in a world that brought him in without it. Freya Crescent, a red mage, looks for the source of what happened to her lover, vowing to never return home without the story behind the mystery. If players aren’t keen on single player Final Fantasy, I highly recommend buying a Final Fantasy XIV account and trying online out. I leave readers with a quote from an underrated chapter of Final Fantasy, and ask those who never have to play Final Fantasy 9.

“I always talked about you, Zidane. How you were a very special person to us, because you taught us all how important life is. You taught me that life doesn’t last forever. That’s why we have to help each other and live life to the fullest. Even if you say goodbye, you’ll always be in our hearts. So, I know we’re not alone anymore.”

Will Emery Redeem Nakamba Career?

Warriors star Marvelous Nakamba’s future at Aston Villa will depend on how he fares under new-appointed coach Unai Emery.

The Spaniard took charge of his first training session at Bodymoor Health yesterday after replacing sacked former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard in the Villa dugout.

Nakamba has not featured for the claret and blue this season, having been frozen out by Gerrard in very debatable circumstances.

The Hwange-bred midfield enforcer wanted to leave the Birmingham-based side on transfer deadline day back in August due to lack of opportunities but no move materialized.

Under Emery though, Nakamba, together with Morgan Sanson and Fredrick Guilbert, will be given a chance to stake their claims in the Villa team as the Spaniard masterminds the team’s revival.

Emery, at Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Villarreal, used a 4-4-2 formation. The 50-year old is expected to use the same setup at Villa.

It won’t be that smooth sailing though for Nakamba, who still has to fight for a place in the Villa engine room with Douglas Luiz and Boubacar Kamara, who is edging closer to a return, after recovering from a knee injury he picked up in September.

This will be a decisive period for Nakamba, who has to fight for his place in the Villa team before the next transfer window.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

No Fire, But A Lot Of Work At ZANU PF 7th Congress: Mavaza

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | The seventh Zanu-PF Annual National People’s Congress in Harare closed after a week of intensive and fruitful deliberations and adoption of policies votes and nominations. Many people had expected fire works some even expected trouble in the cockpit. Detractors had tried to sow seeds of destruction tried their best to divide the presidium coming with a lot of headlines which were meant to divide ZANU PF.

Participants and delegates exhibited their discipline and the love of the party. ZANU PF came out of this congress stronger than before. Emerson Dambudzo MNANGAGWA was catapulted into 2023 with a Fresh Mandate by his endorsement as the president of ZANU PF and a sole candidate to represent the party in 2023 the campaign was ignited. ZANU PF should be congratulated, especially those who prepared presentations at short notice and those who attended for the party, not for their pockets.

It should be stressed that all congress deliberations, no matter how brilliant, will remain paper unless efforts are made to implement them. The congress noted that all policies deliberated in previous conferences were implemented.

Therefore, it is critical for all the relevant authorities to stay fully engaged and support policies and resolutions congress has come up with.

The most highlight of the congress was the unity exhibited by the presidium which clearly dispelled all rumours of disunity in the party.

President MNANGAGWA showed that he is a uniting power.

On the aspect of recruitment and campaign cde ED accepted in the party ZANU Ndonga. He then appointed Cde Wilson Khumbula to be a member of the Central committee.

Uniting ZANU NDONGA with ZANU PF was an effort which started long back spearheaded by the president with Dr Win Mlambo of Chipinge South playing a pivotal role.

The congress was closed by the president declaring that victory was certain and in ZANU PF DNA.
The congress witnessed the great job the president is doing. The president has created Morden jobs delivering people from poverty. During the congress the Cabinet ministers and journalists where literally shown how people are being lifted from a dumpsite to Morden houses. From rubbish to something.
Congress was reminded of the true owners of ZANU PF. The president said ZANU PF is owned by its founders,by the current generation and by the future generation. This spells the continuity of ZANU PF into the distant future. President MNANGAGWA urged patriots to keep the party alive.
Unlike other political parties ZANU PF is not about the president. It is about the people. ZANUPF has surpassed its detractors. Despite the demonising we are facing from the West Zimbabweans will reward ZANU PF with winning 2023. The president assured the people that nothing will stand in ZANU PF way.
President MNANGAGWA urged Zimbabweans to vote for ZANU PF to preserve the independence. Every five years we seek the mandate and it is the pillar of democracy to rule with a mandate.
The president warned corrupt members to desist as ZANU PF does not and will not support corruption.
ZANU PF Is a party full of ideas. It is the party for development. Zimbabwe has seen vicious developments construction of dams roads and all infrastructure.
“WE ARE BUILDING A PEACEFUL PROSPEROUS ZIMBABWE. “

We have come to the closing of this years congress after a long week of intensive and fruitful brainstorming about the implementation of the Resolutions. This year’s congress was historic because it was the congress well attended by many foreign diplomats. It was further Historic because it was one of the first congress not watered down by the rains.
Thus We should call upon all the stakeholders to stay fully engaged in support for the Policies and the implementation which certainly require it most. 2023 is the year of our victory.
We do not change a winning team.
We should surely commend again the Sponsor’s organizations, including funds and programmes, specialized agencies, as well as other international and regional multilateral organizations for their extraordinary support to the Congress and its entire preparatory process, both substantively and logistically and look forward to even increased collaboration with them. We should thank cde July Moyo for leading the logistic team cde Obert Mhofu Mpofu for his expertise in administration and indeed the army of cadres who made this congress possible.
We can not ignore cde Samora and his team who made order at the gates and during accreditation.
Let me highlight a few key points: Economy Productive capacity as the main focus of the country needs to be given high priority not only by agencies whose core mandate is closely related to the enhancement of productive capacity but also by all other stakeholders. It was encouraging to hear that many departments and organisations already have made commitments to streamline the Imports and give priority to Local production and that Zimbabwe is leading in development. It was more encouraging that all the projects being done in Zimbabwe are not done with foreign aid but with our own money. With respect to the inclusion of issues relevant to Production in local fora it is very encouraging that the Congress saw the implementation of resolutions made on devolution at provincial levels in previous conferences.

This was a step towards encouraging decentralization of the development. Each province is given the opportunity to benefit from its resources. This has seen peoples lives improved to above middle class and it will be fully achieved by 2030. This was not a bluff but a noble economical plan. But this is only going to happen if government and relevant departments continue advocating for implementation of these resolutions. The party opened up to constructive criticism and kept the domestic line open and flowing.

A broader market access, and economic growth has been made even despite the global crises. We need to intensify our efforts in these and other areas and implement the Resolutions and commitments in order to reach this ambitious objectives. It is also very clear that the implementation of the Resolutions made is closely linked to other Economic processes. Furthermore good governance at all levels is a precondition for the implementation of the Economic policy and thus issues related to good government were highlighted not only in the dedicated session but are also relevant in all other priority areas for action. Sharing of experiences and lessons learned has been mentioned throughout the week this is a crucial part for the meaningful implementation, follow-up and monitoring of the Economy and should be done more intensively at all levels. The conference was not the usual bootlicking gathering but it was business as usual.

With a view to ensuring the full engagement of all stakeholders in a coordinated manner, ZANU PF discussed a comprehensive roadmap for the implementation, follow-up and monitoring of the economy Programme of Action for the cash crisis fuel problems prices medical and pharmaceutical dilemmas.

Let me briefly highlight some of the main and most urgent actions for the coming months and years: Disciplining the party and forging unity peace and development. Opening the country for business. Tackling corruption and walking the talk on corruption. Fast tracking all high profile corruption cases. The mainstreaming of the Economy into national development strategies and aid strategies is one of the most urgent tasks at hand. The party needs full support in this respect especially at the country level.

Building on the country level experiences the regional component of the implementation and follow-up also needs to be strengthened involving all relevant regional and subregional organizations.

Establishment of a working group on the Indicators to monitor the implementation of the objectives, goals and targets of the Party.

With respect to monitoring and evaluation a more inclusive and participatory process, coordinated by the office of the president with substantive inputs from the whole system and beyond is needed. The president called upon agencies and organizations, to have Focal points.

The party has to set a list of deliverables, which are sustainable. This would have also be a useful instrument for monitoring, at different levels. The success story of Zimbabwe under the evil sanctions shows the resilience and humanity displayed by the Zimbabwean people.

Specific follow-up measures which includes the establishment of a Task force made development possible in Zimbabwe. The president through the created a joint gap and capacity analysis with the aim of establishing a workable live economy to be achieved.

The party also need to keep the momentum of engaging all groups of stakeholders, especially parliaments, civil society and the private sector to find a way out of our economic problems.
The president acknowledged all patriots again for their engagement in the process and wished those who had traveled to the congress a fruitful witnessing of the implementation of the resolutions. We look forward to continued and expanded collaboration in the coming months and years and a complete turn around of fortunes. The congress should not be a mere event but a proper barometer of our work. The survival of the party must justify the calling of a next congress where new mandates are given.

After the congress something must be seen. A complete U turn and good fortune must be witnessed. A congress must yield fruits and must be a focal point of progress. The way forward should be to walk the talk and reach the destination. The lies of disunity should be viewed with scorn. A total turn around should be seen after the congress. The leadership is rejuvenated. Thats the way to go. The commissariat had worked tirelessly to make the party a united entity. This congress was very electric and indeed a success. Without those who worked behind the scenes nothing would have succeeded.

Once again ZANU PF had done it and it should be applauded. The party has to remain resolute in the face of sanctions. The president implored the party to be vigilant and to be courageous in the face of difficulties. He urged party members to remain resolute in hunger and in times of plenty. Our problems are just birth pains they will produce blessings and success. Zimbabwe will pull through under the heroic guidance of ED and ZANU PF.

It is important to mention the wisdom and hard work exhibited by Vice Presidents. The naughty boy looked healthy as his social life was expunged from the political life. He got a new lease and no doubt he will work for the country. We noticed the God given charing skills by the beautiful madam chairman as she is called cde Oppah Kashiri the untiring work shown by all cdes at the party offices and structures will not go un mentioned. This congress was indeed a success and the first of its kind.

The president stuck to time finishing the proceedings earlier than before. Efficiency was indeed the emphasis and it did not fail.
The high light of the event was the appointment of the council of elders. ZANU PF belongs to all and needs all to build the nation. Brick upon brick we will build Zimbabwe.

Promoting Sound Health In Cities

By 2050, nearly 7 out of 10 people globally will live in cities and other urban settings. While cities face many health challenges, on World Cities Day 2022 WHO and partners examine how city leaders are uniquely positioned to understand local needs and respond rapidly to changing conditions to safeguard health.

Although living in cities brings many advantages, rapid and unplanned urbanization can have negative social and environmental health impacts. These include not only issues linked to climate change, pandemics and noncommunicable diseases, but also to malaria and other vector-borne diseases. While the burden of malaria is currently still higher in rural areas, current trends in urbanization mean that in a few years most people living in malaria-endemic countries will reside in urban areas.

In this regard, and on the occasion of World Cities Day 2022, WHO and UN Habitat have produced the Global framework for the response to malaria in urban areas. The Framework provides guidance to city government officials, health professionals and urban planners for a comprehensive malaria response specifically in urban areas, where the dynamics of transmission and burden of vector-borne diseases can be different from that of rural areas. The Framework acknowledges that the global fight against malaria and other vector-borne diseases requires strong action from local governments, in areas such as health, housing and infrastructure.

“By offering specific guidance to local officials, this new Framework can help ensure that malaria control forms an integral part of the broader urban planning, policy-making and budgeting processes,” explains Dr Abdisalan Noor, Head of the Strategic Information for Response Unit in the WHO Global Malaria Programme. “For each urban context, the strategic use of data can inform effective, tailored responses and help build resilience against the threat of malaria and other vector-borne diseases.”

On World Cities Day 2022, WHO is also launching the Urban health research agenda, a comprehensive strategy to help cities build better evidence around what works to address urban health challenges. The agenda calls for building evidence on the environmental, economic and social impacts of urban health policies, so that they can be addressed through a coordinated approach that involves the different sectors working together to improve the health of their residents.

“We desperately need to get ahead of the challenges that are impacting the health and well-being of people living in cities,” notes Dr Etienne Krug, Director of the Department of Social Determinants of Health at WHO. “Strong urban policies must prioritize health, to ensure resilient and vibrant communities for people to live, work, go to school and play, all while protecting those who are most vulnerable.”

Urban health is a growing priority for WHO, which addresses the issue in multiple cross-cutting ways, such as better air quality, a safe water supply and improved sanitation; healthy urban planning; smoke-free environments; road safety; prevention of violence and injuries; healthy food systems and diets; environmental management of vector-borne diseases; and preparedness for health and humanitarian emergencies. Addressing the needs of specific population groups, such as children and older people and migrants, is also a priority. The interlinked nature of urban health challenges means that action in one sector can have benefits for many others.

To help Member States address the above priorities, WHO is supporting the strengthening of the evidence base to allow policy-makers to make informed decisions when addressing health risks. We provide tools and guidance on what works and support monitoring of key health-related indicators. In addition, we lead and engage in partnership activities that foster city-to-city exchanges and help develop institutional and policy frameworks for good governance for health and well-being in cities.

Lightning Strikes Lovebirds

WHAT started off as a normal day turned tragic for an 18-year-old and his girlfriend when they were struck by a bolt of lightning on Friday afternoon.

Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson, InspectorMargaret Chitove, told H-Metro the incident happened on October 28, at around 4.30pm.

She said the now deceased 18-year-old went to Hunyani River, with his 17-year-old friend, and his 16-year-old girl-friend, and her friend, to do some laundry.

“On their way back, it started raining and the two were struck by a bolt of lightning.

“They were both thrown into a ditch and the boy died on the spot, and the girl complained of painful eyes,” said Insp Chitove.

Chemagamba police attended the scene and the girl was rushed to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital where she is recuperating.

Police urged members of the public to avoid the use of cellphones when outdoors in the rain.

“People must also avoid seeking shelter under trees and being in open spaces, as the chances of being struck by lightning are very high,” she said.- H- Metro

Former Opposition Legislator Tongai Matutu Denies Using Twitter To Smear CCC

Former MDC MP for Masvingo Urban, Tongai Matutu, has distanced himself from a Twitter account that bears his name that listed the names of opposition figures who allegedly called for sanctions against Zimbabwe.

In an exclusive interview with The Mirror, Matutu said he did not write the list and that he has no evidence that his former colleagues in the opposition hate their country.

He said:

I crossed the floor to ZANU PF but I have no bad blood with those in the opposition. I have no reason to paint them as villains who hate their country if I don’t have any evidence against them. I don’t know the naughty author of that list.

I have no reason to bootlick ZANU PF. I have not benefited from anything that can push me to lie. I am my own man that’s why I crossed the floor alone.

If you check my lifestyle, would you conclude that I have been given a million dollars? That’s just hogwash. I have never been to America in my entire life.

If you check the document properly that is not a signature. This is not the first time that I have met such mischief. The last time my name was used in the Chief Serima saga but I decided to keep quiet.

What I know is that there is a ghost account using my name to cause confusion both in the opposition and the country at large.

Matutu was appointed the Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Deputy Minister during the Government of National Unity (GNU) by the then Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.

He left the MDC and joined ZANU PF in 2020 after claiming that the opposition had lost direction.

Charles Musimiki, who also defected to ZANU PF last year and is on the list of those who allegedly campaigned for sanctions against Zimbabwe, told The Mirror that the furthest he went outside Zimbabwe was to Pretoria.

The minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Ziyambi Ziyambi said he doesn’t know about the open letter that was allegedly written to him by Matutu. He said:

I don’t even know the letter that you are talking about. An open letter is not delivered so I didn’t see it because I am not on Twitter.
