Tinashe Sambiri|There is no doubt that Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s new dispensation is just a farce.

Mr Mnangagwa is violently attacking CCC supporters across the country.

VIOLENCE ALERT

REF: Gutu CCC Cluster Press Statement On Escalating Political Violence
We, the Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) Gutu Cluster leadership having met on Friday November 6 2022 and discussed the situation in the district, wish to note with concern and condemn the escalating political violence, intolerance, the selective use of the law and repression caused by Zanu PF in Gutu as the country heads towards the 2023 harmonised elections.
We have observed with dismay the blatant disregard of the law by sponsored Zanu PF thugs who hire trucks and ferry supporters to demonstrate at business premises or residences of citizens believed to be active members of the of CCC.
We have noted with concern the unprovoked physical attacks and torture of CCC members particularly around Mpandawana Growth Point, now a red spot for political violence that have resulted in serious injuries and death.
We also note and condemn the partisan and unprofessional manner in which the Officer-in Charge at ZRP Mpandawana handles political cases by placing Zanu PF thugs above the laws of this country. The culprits are known but never charged or arrested.
The following incidences of violence and intimidation are on record
14 October 2021 fatal attack on Nyasha Zhambe case reported at Gutu Police station,
11 September 2022 attack on Claudios Muyindisi case reported at Chatsworth police station,
24 September 2022 physical attack on Ward 33 Councilor Bernad Chimwango and Langton Mabande Guvava case reported at Gutu Police,
29 September 2022 damage to Vehicle belonging to Desire Tichazorwa case reported at Gutu Police station
We also wish to remind the Police, Government, National Peace and Reconciliation Commission that dozens of people were tortured at an illegal Zanu PF roadblock on 14 October 2021; reports were made to the Police and up to now there has been no conviction or court trial.
Nyasha Zhambe died from injuries sustained at the same roadblock and Police has swept the case under the carpet and up to now the well-known suspects are roaming free and committing new crimes.
We therefore as democracy champions, guided by our leader, Nelson Chamisa’s principled stance on peace and peaceful elections demand that the Government of President Mnangagwa, Police Commissioner General G. Matanga, NPRC chairman , Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission chairperson and Zimbabwe Electoral Commission chairperson urgently look into this matter to avoid the human carnage witnessed in 2008 where we still have thousands of victims suffering ill health arising from permanent organ damages caused by torture and violence.
We yearn for a New Great Zimbabwe , a nation driven by one shared vision of a prosperous, free and just Nation.

THE Zimbabwe United Passengers Company (Zupco) has triggered an outcry after raising intra-city charges to $800, which it also says would be equal to one United States dollar.
While the official exchange rate is about $635 to the greenback, Zupco last week announced new rates for peri-urban routes.
“You’re being advised to revert to the gazetted fare of $800 on all peri-urban routes with effect from November 4. For passengers willing to pay in USD, crews are urged to accept US$1 for a journey without an extra charge having to be passed to avoid fare distortions,” the Zupco memorandum, which was signed by Tito Chirau, the Belvedere Depot manager read.
Chirau also told the bus crews that starting from Thursday this week, they will be buying fuel on their own.
“Passengers paying in USD should be given a ticket matching the $800. You’re now mandated to buy your own fuel with effect from November 10 as all highway buses are doing.”
Zimbabwe National Organisation of Associations and Residents Trusts Chitungwiza chairperson Obert Matsika said Zupco was “stealing” from passengers.
“How can they charge USD at the black-market rate? It must charge fares using the bank rate,” Matsika said.
National Consumer Rights Association spokesperson Effie Ncube told NewsDay that the RBZ rate was divorced from the reality on the ground.
“The fact is that the Zimbabwean dollar is worth less than what the government would like citizens to believe. The government-dictated rate is completely out of touch with the realities on the ground,” Ncube said.
Zimbabwe Union of Drivers and Conductors president Frederick Maguramhinga said the new charges meant that government was finally recognising the reality on the ground.
“It’s a move which shows the reality on the ground. Things are tough. It was going to be a burden for the government to continue to give fuel for free. This also brings fair competition and it should be controlled to benefit the people,” Maguramhinga said.
Chitungwiza and Manyame Rural Residents Association secretary Brighton Mazhindu said the Zupco project was not sustainable.
“They forced operators to charge in local currency yet spare parts are charged in USD. So, most operators only joined for free diesel and they didn’t service their routes,” Mazhindu said.

By A Correspondent- A 29 year old man from Luveve suburb in Bulawayo has appeared in court facing charges of making a false report to the police.
Elias Mamera appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Busani Sibanda facing charges of deliberately supplying false information to a public authority as defined in Section 180 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.
He was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody on $20 000 bail.
Allegations against Mamera are that for the purpose of obtaining any advantage whether for himself or someone he made a false report of a purported theft to the police claiming Clinton Tarugamuchira Muregere, a mechanic, had sold his vehicle which he had left with him for repairs.
It is reported that on 4 September 2022 and at around 6pm, Mamera went to ZRP Bulawayo Central Police Station and made a false report to the effect that on 22 July 2022 he left his motor vehicle, a Honda CRV, to Muregere so that he could fix it.
Mamera went on to state that Muregere, after repairing the motor vehicle perfectly, sold it without his consent.
It is reported that a case of theft of a motor vehicle was then opened and a docket was sent to CID Vehicle Theft Squad in Bulawayo for investigations
Investigations were made and later established that the accused had filed a false report.
It emerged that Mamera had actually sold the vehicle to Muregere and was paid part of the payment and Muregere was still owing him a balance of US$470.
Following that discovery Mamera was immediately arrested and taken to court to answer charges of making a false criminal report.

Cameroon striker Vincent Aboubakar has criticised Mohamed Salah, and claimed he is on the same level with the Egyptian superstar.

He told 90football.fr, as cited by TalkSPORT.com: “I understand people’s attitudes, he’s one of the best goalscorers in the Premier League.
“It makes sense that when you go on about a player like that, people will talk.
“But I did say that it was my opinion, my point of view.
“I don’t give a toss if people don’t like it – I’m not impressed by him.
“I can do what he does. I just don’t have the opportunity to play in a big club.”

Tuesday the 8th of November 2022 saw more than five hundred disgruntled Vumbachikwe (known as Forbes and Thompson Duration Gold Mine) spouses of mine workers descend on the mine entrance and block the morning shift (their husbands) from entering their respective workplace and report for thier usual duty at the Gwanda gold mine.
By Maxwell Teedzai | Subsequently, employees of Vumbachikwe Gold Mine are alleged to have immediately notified Gwanda police who reacted by allegedly shooting in the air, throwing tear gas and beating up the women and their children who were embarking on a lawful and peaceful industrial action in an historic solidarity support strike to help thier husbands get a living wage as they are being grossly underpaid by their respective bosses. “Police brutality is unexpected and unwarranted and especially when it is unleashed on women and children who are standing in solidarity with thier husbands to help push thier bosses into compliance with the April 2022 NEC – National Employement Council wage adjustments which to date have not been duly effected,” argued Kurebwa Javangwe Nomboka the President of NMWUZ – National Mine Workers’ Union of Zimbabwe. Consequently, lastest reports indicate that the Gwanda Police’s alleged reaction worsened the scenario when suddenly they reacted by unleashing terror on the unsuspecting women and children who had staged the solidarity strike to help thier husbands get their April 2022 back-dated wages which to apparently remain unsanctioned by thier husbands’ employers. New information trickling in seem to further reveal that the entire Workers’ Committee of Vumbachikwe Gold Mine were this morning allegedly taken into police custody but with charges leveled against the workers’ representatives still unknown. Other sources privy to this report alleged that the Office of the President and Cabinet and Resident Minister for Gwanda Mr Abednego Bhebhe have engaged unionists and a selected few from the Vumbachikwe Gold Mine Workers’ Committee to iron out issues between the employers and the employees.
“It’s unlawful for the President’s Office and the Resident Minister to engage mine workers to negotiate with us while some of our members are in police custody and some of our members’ wives and children have been injured,” said Nomboka. However, employers at Vumbachikwe have shifted the blame on the mine workers and asked the police to press charges against them.
“We strongly feel that employers at Forbes and Thompson Duration Gold Mine of Gwanda are doing injustice to both the workers and their respective spouses who were merely exercising their fundamental right to a peaceful demonstration in which they’re demanding that thier bosses honor the long standing April NEC wage adjustment which remains unimplemented to this day,” fumed Nomboka – President of NMWUZ. Meanwhile, the Vumbachikwe bosses have remained adamant, as they continue to turn a deaf ear to the demands of the angry spouses of mine workers whose wages remain inhuman with the least worker earning as little as rtgs$15k. This month of November is the worst since April as some wageslips came with no wage at all (rtgs$0.00)and without the April 2022 NEC stipulated wage adjustment of an aside US Dollar payment.
Consequently, NMWUZ President has warned that he would soon organise a spontaneous strike in direct response to the recent Vumbachikwe management’s provocation which has subsequently brought to a halt all mining activities at the Gwanda Gold Mine.
“The spontaneous strike which we’re organizing for Vumbachikwe won’t be for the entire mining sector in Zimbabwe but like a wildfire it might burn the entire mining sector in Zimbabwe,” retorted Nomboka. Nomboka further noted the unavailability of proper monitoring and follow-up procedures by NEC as some of the major logistical pitfalls affecting the livelihoods of employers in the mining sector in Zimbabwe.
Reports coming in have further revealed that police brutalized and injured several mine workers and about a hundred women are reported to have been injured as well. Nomboka has vowed unrest in the extractives sector for as long as employers continued to exploit workers. The mining sector in Zimbabwe is the biggest foreign currency earner yet workers in the selfsame sector remain among the poorest in the SADC – Southern African Development Community. Although the solidarity strike by Vumbachikwe Gold Mine Workers’ had been cleared by the police, the police still went ahead and victimized the many women and children who took part in the industrial action. “We demand a living wage that is above the PDL – Poverty Datum Line to be awarded to the lowest grade in the mining sector in Zimbabwe”.

By A Correspondent- A young Nigerian man has released a sex tape of Zanele Sifuba, the Speaker of the ANC Free State legislature after she allegedly refused to pay R300,000 blackmail money to the Nigerian man who was sleeping with her.
It could however not be confirmed if the woman in the video is indeed Sifuba.
Netizens took to social media to express their disapproval at the release of the sex tape arguing that Sifuba was justified for refusing to pay ransom to the crooks.
Some netizens called for the arrest and prosecution of the people behind the leaked video with others calling for stiffer penalties for the culprits.
Others however blasted Sifuba’s behavior arguing that she is to blame considering that she allegedly took the video herself and sent it to her then lover.
Sifuba is a South African politician and educator who has been the speaker of the Free State Provincial Legislature since May 2019. She was elected to the legislature in the same month. Sifuba is a member of the African National Congress.
The IOL reported that the ANC Women’s League National Working Task Team, spokesperson Dina Pule said that although she had not seen the video, the sharing of explicit videos of women was despicable.
“Well, it does not take us to have seen and established who it is in the video, we condemn acts of sharing of such videos. It does not matter who is in that video, we fight for the rights of women. Every woman deserves dignity and their privacy,” said Pule.
“That is a violation of somebody’s privacy. We can’t do that. Who would want to go out and record such? It is wrong.”
THE Election Resource Centre (ERC) has given Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) a seven-day ultimatum to furnish it with an electronic copy of the national voters’ roll, which the elections management body will use during the 2023 general elections.
ERC was left peeved after ZEC refused to give it an electronic copy of the national voters’ roll and demanded that the elections watchdog pay US$187 238 as the cost of providing the electoral register, citing provisions of Statutory Instrument 145 of 2022 Electoral (Voter Registration) (Amendment) Regulations, 2022 (No.1), which imposes US$1 per page of the roll as the unit price.
The elections watchdog had written to ZEC soon after the closure of the inspection of the voters’ roll for the delimitation process in July requesting to be furnished with an electronic copy of the national voters’ roll.
But in response to the ERC’s request, ZEC on 20 October 2022 acceded to the elections watchdog’s request but only undertook to provide it with the national voters’ roll in hard copy format and provided a quotation of US$187 238 for its acquisition.
This compelled ERC to engage Dr Tarisai Mutangi of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, who on 7 November 2022 wrote a letter to ZEC protesting that such a cost is shockingly high and more than the “reasonable costs” of providing the national voters’ roll and is contrary to provisions of section 21 of the Electoral Act.
Dr Mutangi further argued that the exorbitant cost of the national voters’ roll, borders on unconstitutionality as it has a chilling effect on curtailing enjoyment of political rights provided in section 67 of the Constitution and makes these fundamental rights illusory as they are now dependent on material comfort.
On the contrary, Dr Mutangi noted that an electronic copy of the national voters’ roll only costs US$200.
ZEC also declined to provide ERC with an electronic copy of the national voters’ roll on the basis that the elections management body is in the process of enhancing the security of the electronic voters’ roll and did not provide an indication as to when its process will be finalised.
The human rights lawyer insisted that once the national voters’ roll is available in hard copy so should be the electronic one as both are provided for in a unitary provision, namely, section 21(4) of the Electoral Act.
Dr Mutangi protested against ZEC’s justification for withholding the electronic voters’ roll saying it borders on irrationality and thus is potentially unconstitutional in view of the provisions of section 68 of the Constitution.
He stated that ERC is highly concerned about the escalating cost of political participation in Zimbabwe as the process of accessing information held by an elections management body should be simple, quick and affordable. Therefore, Dr Mutangi said, ZEC’s offer to provide the elections watchdog with a hard copy of the national voters’ roll instead of the requested electronic version, which would make electoral processes more transparent, is inconsistent with the principles stated above.
Dr Mutangi said ERC is willing to give dialogue a chance in resolving the impasse between itself and ZEC, which should lead to finding solutions that permanently resolve problems related to the provision of the voters’ roll as the nation prepares for the 2023 general elections and would only resort to instituting litigation processes as a last resort.
Dr Mutangi asked ZEC to respond to ERC’s letter within seven days.
ByChris Goshomi | The following is a trailing of opportunities and pitfalls of relocating to UK, as it’s not many months ago since I found myself writing to the UK govt on behalf the diaspora community following deportations en masse of Zimbabweans. Some people had lived in the UK for all their adult lives, and many were approaching their old age.
https://youtu.be/Gd2l5Geo9MY
Separation with family is such an excruciatingly painful process, that, to one who has not had such experiences, it’s quite easy to trivialise it, and make such humorous caricature of men with Shangani bags.
The man with a Shangani bag is someone’s father, someone’s lover, brother and so on. I have had such a traumatising experience of helplessly attempting to console “big men” breaking down, sobbing like little children, faced with the deportation prospects. The former President Robert Mugabe warned about migration challenges, but what alternative did he provide the citizens? Many left because of his policies, and anti-opposition cruelty. Fewer people left the country during the colonial rule than during his reign, and even greater numbers are leaving today due to his legacy, which leads in essence to the real reason for this article. Mugabe’s legacy has been the main “push factor” for population migration from Zimbabwe.
I recall around early 2000, a time before my emigration journey to UK. There was only one theme which dominated discussions wherever you met people, whether in the ‘holy’ circles of churches, at those who enjoyed their pass time with “holy drink”, or even at workplaces. You would just hear that so and so has left for UK, surprisingly they just left without warning, or a word, even to their close relatives. I believe there were examples of some who left without informing their wives nor children. It was a common occurrence to just discover in the morning, that a colleague has not turned up for work. I heard of many cases where some just abandoned company cars at the airport. They did not bother to handover any work or materials which belonged to their employment. One would wonder whether it is just a Zimbabwean way of things to be so secretive, even when people are doing same things (could sharing notes not increase prospects of success?). People are not even comfortable to share information about their health conditions, simple things like blood pressure and diabetes, where you can learn ways to manage your conditions from each other.
What could the reasons for this attitude? Some attribute this to spirituality and fear of witchcraft, some believe that it jinxes your chances, some believe that people can betray your trust and phone the UK authorities to “grass” you about your prior arrival and about the falsehoods you intend to present as the reasons for your visit. Some just fear the embarrassment which comes with deportations in case they are refused entry. This continues throughout the journey and settlement in the UK though, surprisingly. On arrival we were coached by those who arrived before, if you are that lucky to have someone so generous, in some cases unlucky, because some of the coaching and knowledge was extremely detrimental. We were taught to use false names to secure employment, and false documents were an easy reach, “just your pocket”. Some of the compatriots pretended to be from other countries other than Zimbabwe, not sure why any other poor country in Africa could be a better association option than Zimbabwe. Meanwhile Nigerians, Congolese and many other nationals were travelling to buy Zimbabwean passports to come to the UK to claim Asylum. Each fellow Zimbabwean you met pretended to have everything in order. No one would tell you about claiming asylum, but Home Office records state that an estimated 20 000 people from Zimbabwe claimed asylum in the UK at the beginning of year 2000. Who are those 20k people then? Maybe they are not Zimbabweans, it could be other nationals who took advantage of the Zimbabwean political meltdown, because every Zimbabwean I met then, claimed they had work permits, or they were students at universities/colleges. If they were students though, they must have been unique students. They never seemed to miss a work “shift” (as we called it), and they worked very long hours, contrary to UK law which allows students to only work 20 hours a week. If they really had work permits also, in early 2000 work permits were for higher skills jobs, why were these people working 60 hours a week in factories and care jobs? At what point did they work in their specialised fields which they got the permits for?
Fast forward – 20 years later, UK Home Office announces deportations of failed asylum seekers to Zimbabwe. You begin to hear of detentions and, “on the run” of very close compatriots. Some eventually braved it and reached out to their communities for support, however, some chose to face deportation than to seek help and support from their communities, not sure if this is the wisest way of dealing with problems and challenges. Even those who later came out to seek help, I would like to believe that their situation could have not reached the deportation stage if they had opened up and shared their problems with their communities in time. In shona they also say, “benzi bunza rakanaka” (meaning to say, everyone has the potential to give helpful advice, just ask, do not look down upon anyone). Many came to the UK through the asylum route, and there is nothing embarrassing about it. They have legitimised their stay and are now very productive UK citizens, and government are very aware of that, hence the reason they have extended yet another opportunity to take more people from Africa. Zimbabwe is leading on this exodus.
A new wave of movements to UK has resumed since “Brexit” (a term used to describe UK withdrawal from the European Union). And compatriots are using again, the same “modus operandi” Everything is done quietly. Nothing was learnt from the early 2000 movements. We hope not to have a repeat of the 2021 deportation lamentations. The current movements have taken a two-way process of “hush tones”, an environment so dangerous for exploitation of each other. The Zimbabweans who have already settled in the UK have seized the opportunity to deal with the labour market deficit in the UK, a great idea, and as usual, we all do the same thing, but with cards close to our chests. Again, not sure if it’s induced by the same fears such as those of 20yrs ago, like witchcraft and so on. Society has a tendence to name their children after great events, I would not be surprised to hear of some youngsters called COS in a few months (Certificate of Sponsor, a document that I am also desperately looking for on behalf of my loved ones). Most people in Zimbabwe and other parts of Africa are looking for this golden document. Many are selling homes to purchase this document which is sold by the prospective employers in the UK. This document is supposed to be for free to the employees under UK immigration law (1971 Immigration Act), hence its literal meaning “certificate of sponsor”. It means the employer is the sponsor, the reason why the employer applies for the employment sponsor licence from the Home Office. However, if you are Zimbabwean, you really understand, “the nothing for free” statement. There is no need for much labouring with details around this, unless you want to make more enemies than friends in my society. When you ask friends that run the care companies about these COSs, the information you get is so sketchy, even information to also register a similar business is not easily shared. We have coined a statement, “that’s a Zimbabwean way anyway”, so, is it surprising? In Zimbabwe also, friends and relatives are busy running around chasing for COS quietly, they do not tell anyone, in case the witches catch wind and jinx things as usual. The problem though, just as in early 2000, the episode does not go without victims. The pains and the joys of social media, it’s not regulated, you just wake up to very traumatic wailing of victims without warning. Victims just pope up on your facebook without discretional warning, it doesn’t matter your nervous disposition to handle such content. The secretive “opportunity environment” is the breeding and hunting ground for scammers. They maximise, asking for divine and ancestral spiritual intervention does not help once you have been duped.
Those who filter through the scamming risks also face huge challenges on arrival in the UK. Chief among the challenges is poor regulation of the migrants’ working environment, reportedly leading to visa renewal struggles. The UK Guardian recently reported concerns about rent arrears, homelessness, employment, and challenges of accessing medical services among the new migrant workers. The migrant workers seeking to extend or formalise their immigration are given a status called 3C while they wait for the Home Office to process their application. The purpose of section 3C, 1971 Immigration Act leave, is to prevent a person who makes an in-time application to extend their leave from becoming an overstayer while awaiting a decision on that application and while any appeal or administrative review they are entitled to is pending (Home Office, 1971 Immigration Act). Although their right to work is protected, they however, have no documents to evidence their status, which then creates challenges with employers and landlords. Employers are afraid of the increased penalties if they fail to conduct adequate immigration status checks in line with immigration policy changes from 2012. The changes have made it harder for anyone without documentary proof of their valid immigration status to access healthcare, benefits, driving licences, bank accounts or mobile phone contracts.
The section 3C challenge is that it does not extend leave where the application is made after the applicant’s current leave has expired. The 3C leave application is also a complicated legal process, which requires expert legal applications, attracting substantial costs, thereby presenting challenges for these migrant workers. We are already aware that, a majority of our people migrate for low-income jobs such as Social care jobs, and other jobs which attract little local market demand due to the level of remuneration and conditions of service. This, therefore, compounded with migrant workers’ limited understanding of UK laws, and support networks, result in many failing to extend their visas within required time frames, which then presents a wave of illegal migrants in the country. There are also high risks associated with employer compliance issues which are not of the migrant workers’ own responsibility, such as rogue employers and agencies who are reportedly extortionately charging applicants exorbitant fees for the certificate of sponsors (COS), anecdotal reports are that charges are ranging from £5k-£10k. The law states that, evidence that the person paid someone to provide the document, and that person was not authorised to accept such payments is grounds enough for withdrawal of the 3C leave. This is a situation which the migrant workers are reportedly trapped in, as they have to purchase these expensive COSs due to lack of choice induced by considerable pressure from lack of opportunities in the home countries, whether conscious or unconscious of the legal implications.
Furthermore, anecdotally, some recruiting employers are people who previously worked in the sectors, at operational levels, not even at middle management levels, or just team leader. They have serious challenges of skills and knowledge deficiencies of the policies, regulations, and organisational management in the industry. Again, because of the fear of “witchcraft”, these employers do not ask for help within time from people closer to them. They then make some errors which then result in the Home Office, and other regulatory bodies such as Care Quality Commission (CQC) revoking their operational licences. The Home Office gives the migrant workers just 60 days to find an alternative sponsor to issue them out a new COS when the company they worked for has lost the licence. This time frame to get another COS is very little, resulting in these employees becoming overstayers without valid visas. Bearing in mind that in that little window, getting another job requires a lot of procedures, such as references, new criminal record checks, some employers prefer you to start by working for them before they can apply for a new COS, meanwhile your 60 days are ticking, no guarantee that they will apply for the COS for you. Once you have become an overstayer, the UK immigration law is very punitive. You get banned for 10 years. To add salt to injury, these migrant workers would have uprooted their entire family, which impacts on children attending schools. The unexpected legal changes and complexity caused problems for people from the Windrush generation, a group of black people from the Caribbeans, who came to deal with labour force shortages in UK after 2nd world. They ended up unable to prove their legal status in UK, resulting in many of them getting deported, while those who remained were unable to work for decades, including their subsequent generations. The Guardian report raises concerns that, the new group of migrant workers are now facing similar difficulties because of this 3C status and this could lead to same Windrush scandal outcomes. Who is prepared to go back to Zimbabwe after managing to escape the evils of poverty and the gallows of misrule? How many illegal immigrants are going to result from this so called “opportunity”? Windrush scandal is an understatement.
There are also widespread reports of revocation of sponsor licences among many Zimbabwean community companies currently. Some companies are even losing the licences before the people they recruited from Zimbabwe, and other parts of the world have managed to set off. Once this happens, the recruited employees’ visas are revoked, or refused, if they were not already granted/processed, despite the fact that they would have paid extortionate illegal COS fees. This is causing unprecedented pain, heartbreak, and community disintegration. In any company or work environment, there are likely to be disagreements naturally between employers and employees, however, unfortunately, when a sponsor licence has been revoked in our communities, the suspicions between the employer and the employees become so dense. Employers then suspect that those employees they had bad relations with reported them to the authorities. The entire community gets at loggerheads. It snaps all the already naturally strained fibres that hold communities together. But who facilitates the company which they work for to shut down, particularly when it impacts on them as well? Anyway, who knows, people make meaning from their experiences? It’s a complex working environment for both employers and employees. There is no data protection, some employers can just wake up on social media telling the whole wide world that they have lost the licences, and their entire stock of staff have no work permits, the same applies for employees. Your work-related hardships are for public consumption on either party, employer, or employee, because of the community connectivity. Is this current work opportunity in UK a real opportunity or just another Shangani bag heartbreak brewing? Will it create the same Windrush Scandal residual effects?
The new labour migrants from Zimbabwe are not only imagining a connection with the land of UK and its white indigenous inhabitants on their arrival, they also have a deep reconnection fantasy with their brother, sister, uncle, aunt who left them home some few decades ago. To their unbelievable shock, the cultural distance that has grown in between them is unimaginable. Africans in the UK, who settled earlier are now whiter culturally than the white themselves, that, even intra family, there are massive gaps depending who is acculturing faster than the other, is it father, mother or children? They are not acculturating at the same rate. The new African migrant worker is now living with his very close relatives, but distant by time and geography. In most cases you get temporary shelter while you wait to get on your feet and independent, it does not matter you are now in your 50s and set in your ways. You must adjust and comply with the norms and values of people you live with. You have a flimsy familiarity with the problems of your relatives, and you kind of knew before you came. You always heard about their telephone calls reporting their “on and off”, lifestyle, however, it’s a different ball game when it it’s a live drama in your face. You are caught in the middle. It’s easy to become a victim of circumstances depending which side of power in the house your actual relative is, wife or husband, in some cases children are even more powerful than their parents, they are now in their teens and twenties but living at home.
To put things into perspective about the level of current UK movements from Zimbabwe, table 1 contains the recent home office figures of the top 20 countries supplying labour force to UK. Nigeria, Zimbabwe and South Africa are among the leading suppliers globally. Thanks to Brexit, UK’s labour market demands have shifted attention towards Africa. Despite Zimbabwe’s population size, it is just number 6 below United States by a very small margin. Amongst the top 10 countries, Zimbabwe is the country with the smallest population, but has very high figures of migrant workers leaving for UK.
Table 1. Work visa applications and outcomes, by nationality, in the year ending June 2022 – (Home Office Immigration Statistics).
What should be done by the Zimbabwe diaspora community to reduce the likelihood of the 2021 Shanagni bag deportations repeat, and potential “Windrush scandal” problem among our communities? You do not want to be always reactive, but proactive to address the problems before they happen. Currently there is a huge leverage potential for negotiations with the UK government to push them to adjust some of their policies that impact on the labour market participation of new SSA migrants. UK is clearly in dire labour force shortage, and anything that promotes sustainability of labour market participation of the new migrants is an open table invitation. Brexit has reinvigorated Britain’s re-engagement with the world beyond Europe, particularly its former colonies. The special relationship that Britain has with its former colonies was clearly neglected due to the UK’s EU membership which had supposedly diverted British attention solely to its near European neighbours. The EU membership continued to hold back Britain’s stronger trading links with SSA. So, the sudden turn to recruit large a number of workers from SSA is a clear demonstration of the recovery of this relationship. The UK Zimbabwean, and its SSA diaspora community counterparts should now engage the government about the challenges faced by both the black employers and employees in sustaining the labour market engagement. The SSA governments should also join hands in these negotiations, than waiting for just deportation engagement of their citizens in return for bribes and aid. The employers and employees should also make closer networks to deal with their challenges and have some internal or intra community mechanisms for conflict resolutions. There is no need to always resort to mainstream institutions, whose main agenda is largely to sink your efforts. This is a lifetime opportunity which our communities can maximise on if well managed. However, it can also be another source of community disintegration, pain, and heartbreak if not well managed.

By-A South African court has ordered the seizure of 23 pieces of gold, worth R9 million, that were smuggled by (a former driver of miners boss Henrietta Rushwaya) Tashinga Nyasha Masinire, into the neighbouring country last year.
The High Court in Joburg granted a final forfeiture order for the contraband which Masinire attempted to smuggle through O.R. Tambo International Airport. Said Gauteng Hawks spokesperson Captain Lloyd Ramovha:
Nyasha was arrested by members of the Hawks’ serious organised crime with the assistance of customs officials at OR Tambo International (ORTIA) after he landed from neighbouring Zimbabwe.
He consequently appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court facing charges of illegally dealing with precious metals.
The court granted him R100 000 bail, and he has been in attendance since. His next appearance is scheduled for later this year.
In May, Hawks national spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Philani Nkwalase said Masinire’s release on bail came with strict conditions. Said Nkwalase:
Some of the conditions include that he should not leave South Africa, and he also has to report to the nearest police station at least three times per week.
Masinire was arrested shortly after landing at OR Tambo International Airport.
The SA Revenue Service found 23 pieces of gold in Masinire’s luggage after he was requested to scan it at the international arrivals’ customs section. Added Nkwalase:
He allegedly failed to declare any items and did not have any permits or licences to be in possession or transport gold, and the Hawks were called to effect the arrest.

“How come we never see you writing on behalf of ZESA or other real parastatals to the Harare City Council… you are only writing on behalf of Geogenix?,” Local Govt Minister July Moyo was asked by ZimEye.
Local Government minister July Moyo was last week grilled by opposition legislators over the controversial Pomona waste management deal with Geogenix BV, which is being implemented in the capital.
Moyo has been snubbing National Assembly question-and-answer sessions for a long time, but last week he turned up and the opposition legislators had a chance to demand an explanation from him over the costly waste management deal which would have seen Harare City Council forking out US$22 000 per day or US$8 million annually to dump its waste at the Pomona dumpsite.
Harare East legislator Tendai Biti demanded to know why government, notwithstanding that City of Harare cancelled the agreement with German investor Geogenix BV, continues to pay the US$22 000 per day fee.
“The Constitution in section 264 says local authorities are run by elected people and not the minister. What is the minister’s take in this corrupt agreement?”
Harare North legislator Allan Markham accused Moyo of abusing devolution funds.
“How can devolution funds be used to guarantee a project in perpetuity? In other words, he is making the sole decision to use devolution funds for this year. That is fine, but he is guaranteeing with devolution funds that have not been approved yet,” Markham said.
Kambuzuma legislator Willias Madzimure said Moyo should explain why he did not bring the Pomona waste management deal before Parliament for scrutiny.
Moyo said the project was appraised by the City of Harare, which was joined in the appraisal by government which has a responsibility over local authorities throughout the country.
“So, when the government was approached by the City of Harare, we knew that there is a problem in Pomona. Government agreed to say we should proceed with this project. We have gone ahead and appended our guarantee, and that is why we are going ahead with the full appraisal of the technical people of the City of Harare,” said Moyo.
“There is nowhere in the agreement where it says it is guaranteed by devolution funds. This is imagination as there is nowhere where it is written like that.”
Moyo further indicated that when there is a government guarantee and a default in payment occurs, Treasury picks up the tab. —–Newsday

By Farai D Hove | The former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said that Ukraine is winning against the Russian invasion.
Speaking to Sky News in an interview 6 days ago, Boris Johnson said he believes Ukraine is winning because ‘all wars of independence always end in one way.’
He was speaking just as he was praised for his handling of the United Kingdom’s defence assistant response to the Ukraine crisis which has been held as incomparable to all other European nations’.
His comments also come at a time when it was speculated that Russia has purchased sophisticated drones from Iran.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) says it has verified a total of 6,490 civilian deaths during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as of November 6, 2022. Of them, 403 were children. Furthermore, 9,972 people were reported to have been injured.
Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has slammed the ruling Zanu PF party over the sprouting of shadowy outfits endorsing President Emmerson Mnangagwa saying it only shows admission of problems in the revolutionary party.
In a Twitter thread posted today, Mliswa said the 4ED organisations that are being formed everyday shows that either there are issues in the party or the commissariat department is not doing enough to mobilize for the movement.
“Many outfits springing up “4ED” are a paradox that actually lacks the positive part of the device. They are essentially a contradiction, nothing else& an explicit admission of problems. @ZANUPF_Official as a party already accommodates everyone. What justification for these then?
“Are all those emerging as outfits “4ED” admitting that before that and outside of these entities they were not for him or what? The party already has all these professions, organisations, churches and the like. What’s special for them to morph out as they are doing?
“In a marriage the wife has no need to “come out”& say ‘I’m the wife’. It’s an apparent fact that requires no extra-curricular activities to emphasize. The moment one finds that need, it’s an admission that there are problems. Is that the situation in @ZANUPF_Official?
“Generally there can only be two things to this scenario. Either: 1) there are issues in the party. The Party Commissar failing to do his job mobilizing& rallying supporters. Or. 2) These are all money mongers, opportunists making a quick buck from party coffers before 2023,” said Mliswa.
Tinashe Sambiri|2023 is the year of ending decades of misery and poverty, CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has said.

Tinashe Sambiri| The Citizens’ Coalition for Change( CCC) Namibia has slammed Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa for “raping” the law.

Analysts say Mr Mnangagwa’s new dispensation is worse than the former strongman of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe’s administration.
In a statement, CCC Namibia called for the unconditional release of Hon Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala, Hon Godfrey Karakadzai Sithole and the Nyatsime activists…
Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia condemns weaponization of the law.
07 November 2022.
The continued incarceration of Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala, Godfrey Karakadzayi Sithole and the the Nyatsime 15 is a clear abuse of the basic human rights by a desperate regime that does not have any potential to win a free , fair, credible, and unfettered elections in 2023. The recent by-elections ascertained that ZANU-PF has gone back to their default settings of arbitrary arrests, state-sponsored violence on dissenters, and absolute closure of the much-needed democratic space.
Citizens in Namibia demand equality before the law as a sure way of upholding the rule of law and constitutionalism. Demanding justice for a casualty of ZANUPF-engineered abduction which saw Moreblessing Ali, a CCC activist gruesomely murdered before she was cut into four pieces and dumped in a disused well near the home of the Chisangos does not warrant Wiwa and team more than 4 months at Chikurubi Maximum prison. Pius Jamba, Moreblessing Ali’s killer was never detained at the Maximum prison but at Harare Remand Prison, this is what we call the selective application of the law.
We are quite aware that ZANU-PF morons are plotting to keep our change champions in jail until the 2023 harmonized elections are done and dusted, we shall resist with equal measure. Change champions need to register their discontentment with the evil operation of our judiciary which is taking instructions from the shake-shake building. One can’t imagine the acquittal of certified thieves from ZANU-PF, stomach politicians who exploit state apparatus as springboards for the primitive accumulation of national resources. Those who are committing real crimes are walking scot-free when the innocent members of parliament and law-abiding citizens languish in prison.
It is pathetic that Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala and others have endured long pre-trial detention for demanding justice, freedom, and equality when Mayor Wadyajena who stole 5 million US$, Henrietta Rushwaya, Chivhayo, and many others enjoy impunity because of their loyalty to the corrupt and incompetent Harare Regime. Citizens should amplify their revolutionary voices casting this law fare. Denying Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala bail for the 8th time is a clear testament to the manipulation of our courts. Bail is a constitutional right that should be enjoyed by all citizens regardless of their political homes.
On another note, ZEC should abruptly stop taking instructions from ZANU-PF. Right now, the purported independent commission is refusing to provide the voter’s roll which is a significant tool they usually use to rig the people’s vote. Change champions should demand the voters roll now so that it can be effectively audited towards the 2023 watershed elections. We should all register to vote for President Advocate Chamisa in 2023. The politically inept regime has dismally failed to put the sunken economy on a sounder footing.
2023 is our only hope for a New Great Zimbabwe.
We should implement our PREPARE blueprint so that we minimize rigging from the ZANU-PF belly politicians who want to defend their ill-gotten political power at all costs. Citizens should display the various, nerve and mettle demanding the immediate release of Mkoma Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala and others.

It started like any other day for Natasha Munyengwa Goremucheche, a devout Christian, a former banker and a finance officer at Christ Embassy Church in Belvedere, Harare.
On the morning of September 28, 2022, the 42-year-old widow left her place in Ashdown Park for work at near Belvedere Teachers’ College.
She caught a lift in the morning rush hour near Divaris Shopping Center where she intended to catch a connecting lift to Christ Embassy Church.
Little did Goremucheche know that the very next car will see her to the end of her life. Ruthless criminals lurked for prey; ready to pounce on innocent souls for money and if need be to kill in order to achieve the same.
Goremucheche’s aunt, Irene Goremucheche Nyathi narrated the harrowing story to The Mirror.
Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed Goremucheche’s death and said a docket for murder has since been opened.
At Divaris, Goremucheche saw a lift at the bus stop and approached the driver who was alone in the vehicle and he confirmed that he was going her direction. She took a seat at the back of the small Toyota without taking particular interest on its make or colour.
A few metres away a man flagged down the car and he boarded and joined Goremucheche at the back. The car drove for about half a kilometre and suddenly Goremucheche was hit on the head with a fist and the man snatched her mobile phone and handbag.
Goremucheche however, pinned the man down and the driver seeing that his accomplice was losing out, pulled out an empty bottle and handed it over to his accomplice who hit Goremucheche hard on the nose with it.
She then pleaded to be dropped off since the two already got what they wanted but they drove her to the outskirts of Belvedere near Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) Training Center where they tied her hands with a belt and covered her face with her T shirt before dumping her in a shallow pit.
She was ordered not to attempt to leave the pit until after 20 minutes because she was going to be shot dead if she did.
She eventually managed to free herself and got help at the next homes about 200 metres away from the open space.
She made a Police report and got four stitches to the cut on her face at the Avenues Clinic. A week later she complained of dizziness and thereafter she could not see. An optician prescribed her some spectacles and her eyesight was restored but her dizziness worsened and she became mentally confused.
She was taken to hospital on October 13, 2022 where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police ordered a post-mortem which showed that Goremucheche suffered swollen brain.
It is heartrending that for a handbag, a mobile phone and US$140, her three children; two girls aged 10 and 16 and another child aged 21 have suddenly become orphans. They will grow without a mother.
Goremucheche was buried at Mabvuku Cemetery on October 18, 2022.
Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyati urged members of the public to avoid boarding unregistered vehicles. He also added that ‘mushikashika’ drivers are being arrested.
GOVERMENT has taken up arms to defend the corrupt Rhodesian businessman and post independence land grabber, Billy Rautenbach from disposssed villagers suing him for their losses.
The govt said it would defend Billy Rauntenbach’s ethanol project in Chisumbanje despite a history of deceiving the villagers claiming for instance that he invested USD500 million in the area and that he would electrify the whole of Manicaland with ethanol produced by his company.
Villagers have been objecting to the operations following a land dispute.
Rautenbach’s Green Fuel is in a partnership with Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (Arda) which contributed over 20 000 hectares of land at the centre of an ownership dispute with the villagers.
Green Fuel enjoys a monopoly in the provision of ethanol for petrol blending .
Addressing villagers in Chinyamukwakwa area in Chisumbanje on Saturday, Lands and Agriculture minister Anxious Masuka described Rautenbach’s ethanol project as a “national programme”, adding that government had no tolerance for naysayers.
“We are here in the Garahwa community for this partnership between Green Fuel and Arda on vast hectares of land which they were given to carry out a national programme of sugarcane farming to produce ethanol that is blended with petrol,” Masuka said.
“The value of Green Fuel to our country is that every year it produces 80 million litres of ethanol which is ferried to Harare that will be blended with imported petrol to make it E20 petrol. Green Fuel is a very important company in the country, that is why we will not tolerate disrupters. If we hear that Green Fuel has been disrupted from producing we start to question, wapindwa nemweya waLegion here? (Have you been possessed by the spirit of Legion?). Please reprimand each other against daydreaming and do not try to disturb national programmes.”
Rautenbach is one of the few white commercial farmers who was offered land at the height of the country’s compulsory land acquisition programme in 2000 that saw the majority of white former commercial farmers losing their land.
The ethanol company has set up community irrigation schemes in the Chinyamukwakwa area, which are benefiting hundreds of communal farmers.
Hundreds of villagers have also been engaged for various menial jobs in the Green Fuel sugarcane fields and ethanol production factory.
Green Fuel spokesperson Merit Rumema said: “Prior to the ethanol project, Chipinge district was considered one of the least developed areas in Zimbabwe owing to the harsh region five climatic conditions. Currently, over US$2 million is injected into Chipinge south every month in the form of salaries and procurement finance, which has resulted in significantly increased commercial traffic. Local businesses are thriving and social services such as healthcare facilities, roads, churches and schools continue to be refurbished and revived by Green Fuel.”
Green Fuel plans to scale up production, targeting to produce 90 million litres of ethanol next year. -Newsday
GOVERNMENT has suspended all road projects in Midlands Province pending investigations into a suspected over-pricing racket that is bleeding Treasury. There are over seven projects in the province which have been put on hold and these include the US$7 million dualisation of Boterekwa Escapement Road in Shurugwi and Mberengwa Centre-Mataga Road among other road rehabilitation projects.
Government’s value-for-money investigation on all payments to suppliers and contractors to ministries, departments and agencies has exposed a massive overpricing scam by unscrupulous service providers some of whom pegged their prices based on speculative market exchange rates as high as $2 000 to the United States dollar.
The obscene forward pricing of goods and services rendered to ministries, departments and agencies as well as parastatals and local authorities has been blamed for fuelling wild parallel market exchange rates and subsequent price escalation.
With Government being the major buyer, the move prompted the recent suspension of payments to some supplier contracts, which are now subject to a value-for-money audit review before the payments are made, as a corrective measure.
Treasury has said the pricing models adopted by contractors and suppliers leaned on ridiculous extortionist behaviour and are not anchored on economic fundamentals.
In September, it emerged that the Parliament of Zimbabwe was billed US$10 000 per laptop, which is way above general market prices for high-specification laptops, while a 2kg pack of chicken was claimed to be worth US$30 against market prices of a maximum of US$6.
To that end, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development last month instituted a “value-for-money process” for all payments to suppliers and contractors to Central Government, departments and agencies.
In August, President Mnangagwa said accounting officers who fail to detect pricing malpractices will be deemed criminally negligent and held personally liable in terms of the Public Finance Management Act, while suppliers who generate invoices based on black market exchange rates will be banned.
In an interview yesterday, Midlands provincial roads engineer Denis Mupfurira said that there was no construction project taking place in the province due to the ongoing investigations.
“The Government has suspended all road projects in the Midlands as it embarks on value-for-money investigations aimed at fighting the pricing racket that is bleeding the economy,” he said.
Eng Mupfurira said as part of the value-for-money investigations, all road projects or tenders are being revalued amid revelations that nearly all of the tenders in the province were being inflated.
He said there is a tendency of overpricing and use of black market rates in charging for materials in most of the tenders being awarded to contractors in the province.
“So, generally, we have the US$7 million Boterekwa Road dualisation, the Mberengwa Centre-Mataga Road construction among others that have been suspended pending the value for money investigations. All projects running will have to be reviewed because there was generally overpricing being done and this is not good for the economy,” he said.
Eng Mupfurira said work on the projects will resume once investigations are completed and the issue of overpricing is addressed.
“We are not saying all projects or tenders were being inflated, but most of them and soon we will able to know which ones will proceed and which ones will need retendering after the investigations by the Government,” he said.
Eng Mupfurira said the discrepancies in the tendering processes and overpricing have affected set targets.
Chief Banga of Shurugwi said the dualisation of Boterekwa Road is critical in terms of boosting the local economy.
The road is used by commercial trucks to ferry goods from South Africa up to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“The dualisation of the road is also aimed at eliminating recurrent accidents due to its narrowness. Sadly, we have to wait a bit longer until the Government rein in these unscrupulous contractors,” said Chief Banga. –Chronicle
Former Warriors goalkeeper Tatenda Mkuruva has won his first major silverware since arriving in the United States of America three years ago.
The former Dynamos man is in the books of third-tier club Michigan Stars.
Mkuruva’s first medal in America has come after Michigan won the 2022 National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) championship.
The Detroit-based side beat Albion San Diego 1-0 in the playoffs final.
The 26-year-old made forty appearances during the regular season and the play-offs, and kept seventeen clean-sheets while conceding thirty-six goals.
Meanwhile, the league title is the first one for the club after the championship’s inception in 2019.
However, the triumph doesn’t guarantee the team a promotion to the next tier as the American football leagues are not linked by the system of promotion and relegation typical in soccer elsewhere.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

A SHURUGWI man has been arrested for allegedly ripping open a motorist’s tummy with a knife after accusing him of parking his car close to his homestead.
Midlands Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the gory incident which occurred on Saturday.
He said Shepherd Phiri (40) of Mashoko Village under Chief Ndanga in Shurugwi was arrested for stabbing Clide Masembu on October 29.
“Masembu, who was with his girlfriend parked his car at a lay bye along the Shurugwi-Mhandamabwe highway,” said Insp Mahoko.
He said Phiri demanded to know why Masembu had parked his vehicle close to his homestead.
“In a bid to explain to the Phiri, Masembu disembarked from the vehicle and Phiri attacked him with a knife on the abdomen resulting in the intestines protruding,” said Insp Mahoko said.
He said the matter was reported to the police, leading to Phiri’s arrest.
“Phiri is facing attempted murder charges and will appear in court soon,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said Masembu is admitted to Gweru Provincial hospital, where his condition is said to be stable.
“We appeal to members of the public to desist from using force to address misunderstandings,” he said.
A Harare property developer has reported prosecutor general Michael Reza to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) over what he said is criminal manipulation of his case against businessman Ken Sharpe.
Georgious Katsimberis, who is embroiled in a bruising legal battle with Sharpe that is playing out in the courts, reported Reza and three other prosecutors to ZAAC where he accused them of perjury.
The other prosecutors are Charles Muchemwa, Richard Chikosha and Tafara Chirambira.
According to the ZACC papers, Reza is accused of obstructing the course of justice while the other three prosecutors are accused of perjury.
The deputy prosecutor general is accused of lying under oath while prosecuting the case.
“On or about the 2nd of August 2022 and at the High Court of Zimbabwe at the hearing of the application in case number HC 6820/21 and on various occasions during the magistrate’s court trial in case of number CRB R 423/20 Michel Reza in the course of or for the purpose of judicial proceedings made statements otherwise than upon oath, orally, knowing that the statements were false or realising that there was a real risk or possibility that the statement was false,” reads part of the charge sheet.
“According to the outline of the state case, on or about 2 August 2022 at the High Court of Zimbabwe, Reza made a false declaration that Pokugara Properties owned by Ken Sharpe reported Katsimberis to the police first when it was not true.”
Katsimberis narrated how his dispute with Sharpe started leading to the court case where Reza is accused of trying to manipulate the proceedings.
He said in 2016 he went into a joint venture with Sharpe where the businessman was supposed to contribute 13 housing stands measuring 25 932 square metres at an agreed value of US$34.00 per square metre, thus giving the land a total value of US$883 728. 48.
Katsimberis said he availed funds equivalent to the value of the stands brought into the joint venture by Sharpe for infrastructure development and the construction of cluster houses.
He said he paid US$900 000 into the joint venture and carried out developments on the property, including the building of a single-storey cluster show house on the development, as well as securing all the necessary certificates, permits and plans for the proposed housing estate.
Sharpe failed to send the title deeds for the property to the lawyers for the joint venture as contemplated in their agreement and failed to produce or procure the sewer pump, which was needed as the final condition for the joint venture to obtain the necessary compliance certificate for the development.
Katsimberis said he ended up doing more work on the project than was contemplated in the joint venture agreement, until compliance work was finally completed for 21 cluster stands in December 2017.
He said on September 25, 2018 he received communication from his lawyers with a letter from Sharpe’s lawyers that included letters from the City of Harare advising Pokugara Properties to demolish the single-storey cluster show house.
Pokugara Properties is owned by Sharpe.
The letter claimed that the house had been inspected by the City of Harare in a random unscheduled visit, and demanded that the house be demolished by August 30, 2018.
If he failed to comply with the order, an enforcement order for the demolition of the house would be issued in terms of the relevant regulations, the letters warned.
Pokugara Properties, Sharpe and their associates are said to have demolished the show house on the pretext that they were complying with the council’s orders.
“I immediately filed an urgent chamber application to stop the demolition of the house,” Katsimberis said.
“In their opposing affidavit to that application, Pokugara Properties (Private) Limited and its officials including one Michael van Blerk as well as other associates filed sworn statements claiming that the show house was built without the approval of the City of Harare yet in actual fact they knew that there were approved plans from the City of Harare.
“They also lied that I had not submitted any plans for approval, and that I had built the show house on stand number 10 instead of stand number 9, when in fact the house was on stand number 9.”
Katsimberis said in April 2019 he reported the matter to the police.
Sharpe, van Blerk, and Harare City Council officials gave statements to the police and are in court facing malicious damage to property charges after they were charged by the Special Anti-Corruption Unit (SACU).
“Long after I reported the two cases of perjury and malicious damage to property Pokugara Properties and Michael van Blerk reported me to the police for fraud, it being alleged that I had acted unlawfully and with the intention to defraud Pokugara Properties (Private) Limited by furnishing to said Pokugara Properties (Private) Limited architectural plans purporting that they were duly approved by the City of Harare when they were not, thereby potentially prejudicing Pokugara Properties (Private) Limited of US$883 728.48,” Katsimberis said.
“The prosecution of this case is on-going.”
He added: “Two months after the report, the applicant then counter-reported to the police.
“For unknown reasons, the police brought the applicant’s docket against Pokugara to court even though his report had been received last.
“They said the accused did not submit any plans for approval and records of proceedings in the cases and will be produced in court as exhibits.
“These statements were materially and perjuriously false.”
Katsimberis said Reza declared that Pokugara Properties reported him to the police first, which was untrue.
The three prosecutors also made similar claims that Pokugara reported to the police first.
ZAAC chairperson Loice Matanda-Moyo confirmed that a report had been made against Reza but said the Zimbabwe Republic Police was handling the investigations.
“The matter is being handled by ZRP and not ZACC,” Matanda Moyo said.
Police national spokesperson Paul Nyathi promised to comment on the matter, but was not picking up calls during further follow-ups.
By- The ex-girlfriend of the controversial preacher and founder of Goodness and Mercy Ministries, Tapiwa Freddy, Rutendo Makuti has filed an application with the Constitutional court challenging the facts of her arrest.
Makuti was arrested after T Freddy said that she lied that he raped her.
T Freddy argued that Makuti wanted to extort him.
Makuti, a radio presenter, Chief Chikwaka (born Witness Bungu) and Gibson Jaji appeared before Harare magistrate Tafadzwa Miti, who remanded the matter to December 12.
Makuti on Monday filed an application for referral to the Constitutional Court.
In her application for referral, Makuti, told the court that the factual matrix of the application is that she reported Freddy for rape, in which her co-accused testified as witnesses.
She stated that Freddy had the opportunity to cross-examine her on the extortion charges that she is now facing.
It was alleged that the accused (Makuti, Bungu and Jaji) wanted Freddy to pay for allegedly raping Mukati.
Freddy then reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the three suspects.
Freddy was tried for the alleged rape of Makuti and found not guilty in February this year.
In acquitting Freddy, Harare Regional Magistrate Gloria Takundwa said the State failed to prove its case against him after there were several inconsistencies in the testimony of the complainant.
Takundwa said the complainant departed from her material evidence which she gave to the police in her recorded statement.
The magistrate added that the complainant changed her story when giving evidence in court, while her aunt denied having been told of the second alleged rape. | H-Metro
Police on Tuesday arrested a key witness in another dramatic twist to a case where Harare businessman Ken Sharpe is accused of perjury and malicious injury to property.
The witness, Roy Nyabvure who is Harare City Council’s regional building instructor, was arrested at the Harare magistrates’ court after the case was postponed to November 28 because Sharpe’s lawyer Tawanda Zhuwarara had another case at the High Court.
During a brief hearing before the dramatic scenes, magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka had spoken strongly about unending delays in the hearing of the case.
Chakanyuka said the accused had made too many applications for the case to be postponed and stressed that the hearing should proceed without fail on November 28.
“On the 28th of November, the matter should proceed without fail,” the magistrate said.
Nyabvure told Chakanyuka that he was being threatened by the police.
“I have a problem of being misdirected (and) of being interfered with by the police,” he said. “I am being threatened and undermined.”
As the court adjourned, two police officers that had been waiting outside pounced on Nyabvure.
This sparked heated debate between prosecutors Zivanai Macharaga, who told the cops that they were violating the law by interfering with a witness.
The standoff lasted over 20 minutes.
The police officers did not produce any arrest warrant before whisking Nyabvure away as they said they were working under pressure.
Nyabvure is a state witness in the case where Harare property developer Georgious Katsimberis is suing Sharpe, his aide Michael John Van Blerk Van Beek and top Harare City Council officials for perjury and malicious damage to property.
Katsimberis argues the parallel prosecution relying on the same facts has resulted in the harassment of witnesses in order to weaken his case.
Last month, Nyabvure was summoned by the acting officer in charge of the police’s commercial crime unit identified as S. Musonza.
Nyabvure’s lawyers, Mutumbwa Mugabe and Partners, said police wanted to arrest the council employee at the instigation of Augur Investments official Tatiana Aleshina.
This was after one Assistant Inspector Evans Bota called Nyabvure between October 4 and 6, inviting him to the Harare Central Police Station to give a statement over “plans.”
Mutumbwa then told the police that their actions were “brazenly” interfering with a court case and called for a probe by the Special Anti-Corruption Unit and the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).
Nyabvure recently filed a complaint with ZACC claiming that Aleshina was interfering with his case.

By-A South African court has ordered the seizure of 23 pieces of gold, worth R9 million, that were smuggled by a Zimbabwean man, Tashinga Nyasha Masinire, into the neigbhouring country last year.
Masinire is a former driver of Zimbabwe Miners Federation President Henrietta Rushwaya who was also arrested at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport while attempting to smuggle gold. | IOL
I remain in surprise how the ruling party is celebrating having parallel structures under the guise of a thriving& growing base. These '4ED' outfits should worry every well-meaning @ZANUPF_Official supporter. They are a festering, cancerous wound, allowed on they will be fatal.
By Dr Masimba Mavaza | The president of the United States of America has made a cry to defend and protect democracy. He ventured into those people who create lies each time the country faces elections. To them he said “In this moment, we have to confront those lies with the truth. The very future of our nation depends on it.” We must speak with one unified voice and say there’s no room for voter intimidation or political violence in America.”
As Biden makes this statement he made it clear that Political violence is in many ways. In voter intimidation and in making up lies with a sole purpose of discrediting the electoral system of the country. Biden made a clear distinction between intimidation and claiming victory before elections. He cast broad aspersions which engulfed Zimbabwe’s CCC when he said “The Maga element, which is a minority of the Republican party, is trying to succeed now where it failed in 2020. “They’ve emboldened violence and intimidation of voters and election officials.”This is true to the minority of the CCC party which is trying to succeed where they failed in 2018. They have started telling the world about violence and intimidation even though they are the perpetrators of such violence. They instigate violence and cry loudly to their handlers that there is violence in Zimbabwe. By their reports to the international world they make Zimbabwe to look like a war zone.
as we write David Coltart the CCC treasurer is in England stretching his empty bowl begging for funding. He is riding on the created horse of imaginative violence and peddles it in the pockets of the willing detractors like Lord Oates. It is open secret that the CCC use violence as a source or and aide in begging funding.
Zimbabwe hears more stories of political violence now because CCC is in over drive begging for sponsorship. David Coltart who has a lot of contact in the UK is already in UK playing violence videos taken from CCC actors now purporting them to be real.
What Zimbabwe must do now is going to determine whether democracy will long endure. Biden stated that “This is the struggle we’re now in. A struggle for democracy, a struggle for decency and dignity… a struggle for the very soul of America itself.” This perfectly applies for Zimbabwe.
Prophetically and surely so Biden commented on the 6th January Trump’s insurrection
“I wish I could say the assault on our democracy had ended that day but I cannot.” There are candidates who won’t commit to accepting the results of the election they’re in. That’s the path to chaos in America.” Indeed CCC has already rejected the results of the elections before we have even voted. That is the path to chaos in our country. We fought for democracy one man one vote, we fought for peace one Zimbabwe one nation. We fought for democracy and any one who fight against these is a state enemy. Ironically Biden sees the light and this light only blinds those on his leash.
With less than eight month to go before the harmonised elections, President Munangagwa began a congress closing speech on peace and democracy by recounting the sacrifices and blood poured in to bear the fruits of independence.
As Biden says about the American democracy the same can be said that Zimbabwean democracy is under attack, and voters in 2023 need to counteract that at the ballot box. The future of Zimbabwean democracy and threats to it have been a mater of concern on Zimbabwe. It is ironical that America has made it a theme in several of Mr. Biden’s speeches, and he has grown more vocal in naming what he believes are the partisan forces that threaten the nation’s democratic values.
Unbeknown to Biden he was clearly stating the position of Zimbabwe whose democracy is being threatened by the opposition who will not accept the results of elections.
It is true that Zimbabwe’s democracy is under attack because of those who were defeated and have been refusing to accept the results. These are the ones who call the Zimbabwean government illegitimate.
“American democracy is under attack because the defeated former president of the United States refuses to accept the results The opposition in Zimbabwe has always been refusing to accept the will of the people.”
Zimbabwe must frame the upcoming elections as one in which voters must ask themselves whether the vote they cast will preserve democracy or put it at risk. We should realise “Democracy is on the ballot for all of us.
So Zimbabweans have to defend our blood earned independence. We therefore on that note encourage voters to be “patient” as they await for the elections in 2023 to silence the opposition once and for all. The media must not confuse the public by takin conspiracy theories as real.
CHAMISA should be reminded that “you can’t love your country only when you win.” One must love the country anytime we only have one country. The candidates especially the CCC candidates must accept the results of the election, even if they lose. Democracy does not mean that you have to win or a change of government Democracy entails the will of the people they can vote the same party forever. If one party continue winning it should not be labelled undemocratic. It is a shame that CCC believes that democracy means that the opposition must win. We just need to remember who we are. We are Zimbabweans. There’s nothing, nothing beyond our capacity if we do it together.”
Zimbabwean opposition is in the business of “subverting our democracy.”
In 2018 Zimbabwe saw violence geared towards subverting democratic processes. America praised the attackers but now the behaviour of the losers is manifested in their backyard so ironically they warn the like minded to respect their country and act responsibly.
“And political violence, the threat of political violence, which most Zimbabweans find abhorrent, the idea that you would use violence to further your political means, you know, it’s something that unites almost all Zimbabweans and that we can all be united against.” This is true for Zimbabwe. The opposition provoked violence and their actions are a direct attack on democracy.
Zimbabwe is cursed with an opposition which hold beliefs that run counter to democratic values. Democracy is on the mandate given by the people not opposition winning.
2023 is on us and the democratic values we fought for must be seen in the elections. Those who refuse to accept the will of the people, refuse to accept that they have lost. The fate of the nation” lies with the people. Zimbabwe must know that there is nothing beyond our capacity if we do it together, Zimbabwe is the only country we can call ours.
The actions by the opposition has put Zimbabwean democracy itself in peril. In 2023 Zimbabwe must use their vote in the elections to stand up against lies, violence and dangerous actions fronted by the opposition. It is not a secret that there many useless opposition members who are trying to “succeed where they failed” in subverting the 2018 elections.
We must all register to vote.
This is no time to stand aside, The silence is complicity.”
Remember the false claims about a stolen election have “fueled the dangerous rise of political violence and voter intimidation over the past four years. As Zimbabwe we must vote wisely in 2023. We must know that the opposition is a threat to the very soul of this country as Trump was to America. We should remember that democracy is under threat because of election deniers and others who seek to undermine faith in voting.
We know all those who work against our democracy always deny the election results. We must confront it head on now. It has to stop now. “Zimbabwe is seeing an alarming rise” in the number of people condoning political violence, “trying to explain it away as being caused by ZANU PF. We can not remain silent.
Silence is complicity
We must confront it head on now. It has to stop now There is a stark warning about political violence ahead of 2023!’We can’t take democracy for granted any longer’
President Mnangagwa delivered an urgent rebuke of those who follow instructions and those aligned with attempts to undermine democracy.
Biden said.
“As I stand here tonight, equality and democracy are under assault, “We do ourselves no favor to pretend otherwise.”
We must starkly warn Chamisa who leads an extremism party that threatens the very foundations of our country.

SHARM EL SHEIKH, Egypt | The 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) to the UNFCCC is taking place in Sharm El-Sheikh was originally expected to take place from 8-20 November 2021.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, COP 26 was rescheduled from November 2020 to November 2021. As a result, COP 27 is currently taking place in Egypt in the town of Sharm El Sheikh
The Democratic Republic of the Congo did host a Pre-COP from 3-5 October 2022 in Kinshasa in preparation for the current in Ndaba.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa with Foreign Affairs Minister Frederick Shava
Egypt is hosting the 27th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, with a view to building on previous successes and paving the way for future ambition.
Egypt’s COP27 presidency vision is to move from negotiations and planning to implementation, with bold and rapid collective action needed to address the climate crisis. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, President of Zimbabwe in his speech at Cop27 said “Those mostly responsible for the climate crisis must listen and prioritize climate finance to help prevent disasters and climate victims recover. Commitments we have made and continue to make can only make a difference when we act on them.” His sentiments echo the African leaders stand that Africa should not be punished for the fault of others. MACKY SALL, PRESIDENT OF SENEGA said in his speech. “Let’s be clear, we are in favour of reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. But we Africans cannot accept that our vital interests be ignored.” In many conferences Africa is blamed for many things but the leaders of Africa in Africa stood up for the continent. The World leaders, policymakers and delegates from nearly 200 countries are at the COP27 U.N. climate summit in Egypt, where they hope to keep alive a goal to avert the worst impacts of climate change. This is the first time in 27 conferences that it is being held in Africa. Gaston Browne prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda zeroed in and said “The oil and gas industry continues to earn almost 3 billion United States dollars daily in profits. It is about time that these companies are made to pay a global carbon tax on their profits as a source of funding for loss and damage.” Africa can not be asked to use its own money when the destroyers of the world benefit. “Profligate producers of fossil fuels have benefited from extortionate profits at the expense of human civilization. While they are profiting, the planet is burning.” Leaders have bemoaned.
The Russian conflict with Ukraine and Europe’s energy crisis cast an ominous shadow over the talks but the conference has progressed well and still continuing.
In summary World leaders gathered at COP27 amid compounding crises of war, warming and economic turmoil.
Russia’s conflict with Ukraine and Europe’s energy crisis are casting a long shadow over the talks. The most vulnerable countries are seeking ‘loss and damage’ compensation from the biggest polluters of which the polluters are being defended by super powers.
Switzerland is trying a novel, and disputed, way to meet its emissions goals.
In his opening speech the U.N. Leader Warns that Climate Change Is Close to the ‘Point of No Return’ António Guterres, the United Nations secretary general, urged world leaders at the COP27 climate summit to accelerate their countries’ efforts to address climate change or face “climate hell.”Dozens of presidents and prime ministers spoke on Monday at a global summit on climate change after the United Nations chief opened the day’s session with a warning that the world was “on a highway to climate hell with our foot on the accelerator.”The U.N. secretary general, António Guterres, ignited the fire and let out the simmering anger from the chests of many world leaders at the annual United Nations-led international climate talks, which officially began on Sunday as the accumulating threats of war, warming and economic crisis take a toll on every continent, hitting the world’s most vulnerable people the hardest. The African leaders marks this historical event by venting their anger on the microphone hoping that someone is listening. But Mr Guterres said “We are in the fight of our lives, and we are losing,” he said in his opening remarks at the summit in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt. Dozens of world leaders delivered brief addresses at the event on Monday. With President MNANGAGWA flying Zimbabwean flag high and booking no nonsense in fearless and straightforward speech. Indeed MNANGAGWA in a man of his words and man among men. The president noted that “The biggest fault line of this year’s talks is the question of what rich, industrialized countries that account for the largest share of greenhouse gas emissions owe to those bearing the brunt of climate hazards.”
The most sane thing on this summit is that protests, which have been a feature of earlier COP summits, have been noticeably absent so far in Egypt, partly as a result of strict security measures and the remoteness of the conference site from major cities. Zimbabweans who had always loved to embarrass their country by coming to demonstrate in such international meeting could only demonstrate from their homes. With protesters mostly absent from the streets, straight thinking people seized on the opportunity to reasonably push governments to take tougher action against climate change.
Over 44,000 people have registered to attend, including representatives of government, business and civil society groups. The talks come at the end of a year that saw extraordinary heat waves across the northern hemisphere, catastrophic flooding in Pakistan and Nigeria, and a punishing drought in China.According to a list posted by the United Nations, 110 heads of state and government are addressing the conference, a larger number than at many previous climate conferences. Of those, just seven are women. In her remarks on Monday, Prime Minister Mia Mottley of Barbados linked the inability of vulnerable countries to cope with climate hazards to history, saying that countries of the Global North still controlled the money that countries of the Global South need in order to pivot away from fossil fuels. She also restated a call for an overhaul of international development institutions like the World Bank.”This world looks too much like it did when it was part of an imperialistic empire,” she said.
Now the world looks on “can anything good come out of Nazareth” strictly asking can anything good come out of these summits.

By- Controversial preacher and founder of Goodness and Mercy Ministries, Tapiwa Freddy, was back in court on Monday, 7 November in a matter he is accusing his ex-girlfriend, Rutendo Makuti, of extortion.
| H-Metro

Mr Mnangagwa’s administration is endlessly tormenting perceived political foes.

Popular Kenyan tourism enthusiast and youtuber Mercyline Masanya commonly known as African Tigress has been robbed of her gold chain while walking in the city of Nairobi.
African Tigress posted the news on her Twitter account with a picture showing scars from the scuffle.
Oh my God, I’m shaking! Someone just dug into my neck and stole part of my gold neck chain . I don’t even know what I’m feeling right now…I’m shaking. Crime in Nairobi is something else. God I hate this city!
A Harare teacher, Edith Mupondi, has been dragged to court on allegations of sending a message in a WhatsApp group decrying poor salaries by government.
Mupondi is being charged with contravening section 88(b) of the Postal and Telecommunications Act for allegedly sending by telephone any message that she knew to be false for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to any person.
Prosecutors allege Mupondi unlawfully used her mobile phone to send a message on “Epworth Ladies” WhatsApp group on 23 October 2020, which read: “PaEpworth High School, Mr Muzondo, Mr Mudzengere, Mrs Sithole please tinyareiwo muzvigarire kumba, muri kurwisa vanhu vari kukurwirai kuti muwane mari inotenga. Tinyareiwo please (Please respect us by staying at your respective homes. You are fighting people that are clamouring for payment of improved salaries for teachers)..”
This was during the time when most teachers were staying home citing incapacitation.
Yvonne Sithole, one of the teachers who was allegedly mentioned in the message, then reported Mupondi to the police, resulting in her being arraigned before Harare Magistrate Tafadzwa Miti to stand trial.
Sithole complained that the message scared her as it sent shivers down her spine,” said Sithole.
“I recalled well since the opening of schools; I was going to school as usual since I had an exam class. On some of the days I would inform the headmaster that I was not coming since I had no money for transport, and this was being done by every teacher at the school.
“Surprisingly, on 23 October 2020, around 2026 hours, a WhatsApp message was sent in a group. The message was from a group called “Teachers Can’t Breathe Epworth” and it was forwarded to “Epworth Ladies Group”.
“It was forwarded by Edith Mupondi. I am now living in fear, and I am no longer able to go to school since I don’t know the intentions of these people and I informed this to the headmaster,” reads part of Sithole’s complaint to the police, which landed Mupondi in trouble.
This comes at a time Zimbabwean authorities are intensifying the monitoring and surveillance of social media platforms and targeting people who share perceived dissenting views and opinions to those of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government and the ruling party.
A Harare man faces theft charges after he tried to stealthily escape with his impounded vehicle from Harare Central Police Station car park.
Chindikano Peter Klein (31) of Waterfalls was apprehended by the police on November 5 over a traffic offence – being stationary at a dangerous position. His vehicle was then impounded and taken to police central yard.
Later that evening, a police officer guarding impounded vehicles saw a green Honda Fit vehicle which was being driven out of the yard by the accused person. When he ordered the driver of the car to stop at the gate, the accused told the police officer that the car had been cleared. Klein then sped off before the gate was closed.
Zimbabwe is set to conduct pauper’s burials on 32 people whose bodies have lied for months at Parirenyatwa Hospital’s mortuary in Harare without claim.
The hospital announced this last week, adding that the bodies set for the public process were those that have been unclaimed from March to October this year.
Nine of the unclaimed bodies were identified, while the identities of the remaining 23 bodies remained unidentified.
A pauper’s funeral is a basic funeral service provided by the government, local government, or hospital for a deceased person who has no relatives or money.
In a statement issued on Friday, Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals stated that relatives had 21 days to claim their kin’s bodies or allow the state to conduct paupers’ burials.
“The following bodies have been unclaimed in the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary from 10 March 2022 to 03 October 2022.
“The hospital is requesting relatives or family members of the dearly deceased persons to come forward and claim the bodies and give them a decent burial.
“The claim period will end after (21) twenty-one days. Unclaimed bodies will be given paupers’ burial by the state,” read the statement.
By- Zanu PF thugs have beaten up and broken a Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) activist’s leg over Pfumvudza.
The incident happened at Nabs Farm, Hurungwe, at the weekend.
The victim, Bonface Mbondo, had his left leg broken after he tried to collect seed and fertilizer under the Pfumvudza scheme, a government programme which some ZANU PF hoodlums claim should benefit only supporters of the ruling party.
This comes after another CCC member, Wonder Matashu (35) of Kapfunde, Magunje constituency, was seriously injured in a machete attack by Ward 12 Councillor Chris Mudengezerwa (ZANU PF) during a dispute over the alleged unfair distribution of free Presidential farming inputs.
Last week, Mutasa North MP, Trevor Sauwaka (MDC Alliance), accused ZANU PF activists of personalising presidential schemes meant to benefit every citizen of Zimbabwe.
Speaking during the question and answer session in the National Assembly, Saruwaka said funds used to fund such programmes belong to the State, and not ZANU PF. He said:
We have seen a number of government programmes being named after the President like Presidential Inputs, Presidential Goats Scheme and Presidential Boreholes.
In light of that trend, what is the government doing to stop the abuse of such programmes by ruling party activists, who misinterpret such programmes to mean that funding is from the First Secretary of ZANU PF’s pocket yet these funds are from Treasury?
What is government doing to make sure that such programmes are not abused by party activists?
By- MDC-T President Daglous Mwonzora is facing a tough contest from Former MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s close ally, Norest Marara.
Marara has become the first person to openly challenge Douglas Mwonzora for the party presidency ahead of the congress.
Marara reportedly facilitated the purchase of two of Tsvangirai’s vehicles in 2011 and was arrested on charges of smuggling them through Beitbridge Border Post.
He is currently the party’s secretary for special projects and party business in the national executive as well as head of finance and administration.
However, the MDC-T standing committee is reportedly expected to reject Marara’s candidature at its meeting on Wednesday.
NewsDay reported sources in Mwonzora’s camp as saying that there will be an attempt to block Marara’s candidature in the standing committee. Said the sources:
The party failed to suspend Marara, but it is now looking forward to barring him from contesting for the presidency. Our president, Mwonzora fears defeat by the popular Marara. Marara is popular with the structures.
In a statement, the party’s Harare provincial spokesperson Collen Chavengwa said Marara did not qualify to contest for the MDC presidency on the grounds that he “has never served in any capacity in any of the 24 districts in Harare”.
Marara told NewsDay on Sunday that he had served the party for more than five years. He added:
I am also the founding member of the party and, therefore, I meet the constitutionally-required criteria. I have served the party for more than five years.
Marara contested the Harare Central constituency as the MDC Alliance candidate in the 26 March by-elections but lost to CCC’s Murisi Zvizwai.

POLICE in Karoi have arrested three men who allegedly killed a 16-year-old accused of stealing a cellphone.
The victim died at Karoi District Hospital.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said two other suspects are still at large.
“Police in Karoi arrested Cephas Banda, Ian Murehwa and Langton Mapfura (21) in connection with a case of murder in which a 16-year-old juvenile was attacked on October 15, 2022 near Tambawadya Primary School, Chikangwe, after being accused of stealing a cellphone,” said police.
“The victim died on November 1, 2022 on admission at Karoi District Hospital. The other two unknown suspects are on the run. Investigations are underway.”
By- Chitungwiza Town Council has destroyed structures in the Chidochevanhu Beerhall compound in Unit N, Seke.
These structures distroyed last Friday, which had been erected within the compound. They included grocery tuck shops, hair salons, and hardware shops.
Speaking to NewsDay, George Madongwe, a former council employee who leases Chidochevanhu beerhall, said the demolitions were unjustified. He said:
Council’s actions were not justified and are a gross violation of human rights. No reasons were given for demolitions as there was no official communication from the council. Valuables worth US$50 000 have been lost.
The council was collecting revenue from these structures as late as November 3, 2022, and there are receipts to support that.
Can the council collect revenue from an illegal structure? There were also engagements with the council regarding the structures.
Chitungwiza Residents Trust director Alice Kuveya also criticised Chitungwiza Municipality for destroying the structures without notice.
However, acting town clerk Evangelista Machona insisted that the structures were illegal. She said:
Those were illegal structures because council leases do not allow the adjustment of infrastructure without the council’s approval. But this is what was done.
Madongwe claimed that the necessary procedures were followed before the structures were erected. He said:
I constructed the structures after notifying the council. I wanted to raise money to pay their exorbitant bills that I couldn’t pay from selling beer alone.
At the same time, I wanted to increase their revenue base as they would collect licence revenues from the shops.
I have enough evidence to debunk the council narrative that I did anything illegal.
I have requests for bill adjustments, payment plans, payments made and proposals for change of use.
I am a former council employee with special circumstances compared to ordinary leaseholders.
Zimbabwe National Organisation of Associations and Residents Trusts (ZNOART) Chitungwiza chairperson Obert Matsika said the local authority should have acted in 2019 when the structures were built.
The municipality also demolished other illegal structures at Chigovanyika Shopping Centre in St Mary’s.
Stade de Reims midfielder Marshall Munetsi returned to action on Sunday after recovering from a hamstring injury he sustained two weeks.
The Warriors international, who missed two Ligue 1 games during his time out, came on as a second substitute, playing the last twenty-seven minutes of the game of the 1-0 win against Nantes.
Also returning from an injury over the weekend was Real Mallorca striker Tinotenda Kadewere.
The forward tore the quadriceps of his right leg on the eve of his supposed La Liga debut against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu, having completed his season-long loan transfer from Lyon to Mallorca on 29 August.
The injury kept him out for twelve matches before he appeared in the matchday squad for the first time this season on Sunday.
However, the 26-year-old was an unused substitute in the 2-0 win over Villarreal, delaying his debut again.
In England, Marvelous Nakamba was not part of Aston Villa’s matchday squad that beat Manchester United 3-1.
The 28-year-old had been tipped to end his woes under new coach Unai Emery, who officially started his tenure last week.
But the Zimbabwean was snubbed again as he failed to make the matchday squad for the sixth time this term.
Nakamba is also yet to play his first minute this season, having been an unused substitute in the games he made the selection.

Govt says it cannot afford to pay civil servants bonuses at once, and will spread payment of the 13th cheque over two months.
After telling public workers early last month that bonuses would be performance-based, government yesterday said it would pay all employees 50% of their bonuses this month, while the balance would be paid next month.
Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Unions president Cecilia Alexander said after a meeting of the National Joint Negotiating Committee (NJNC), it was agreed that all civil servants from the deputy director level and below would receive their bonuses unconditionally.
“The workers’ side representatives met the government on the 7th of November 2022 to deliberate on quite a number of issues, chief among them is the payment modalities of 2022 annual bonuses,” Alexander said.
“The meeting agreed that all civil servants from deputy director grade and below will receive their bonuses unconditionally. The bonuses will be accorded in two tranches starting from November to December across the board. Fifty percent of the annual bonus will be paid per the said months plus the usual earnings.”
Alexander said fees for teachers’ children would also be paid in batches for all terms in December through the Salary Service Bureau.
“On performance advancement, all members will be rightfully placed in their grades in January 2023, while the arrears will be worked upon thereafter.”
Workers’ representatives commended government for its decision to pay bonuses unconditionally.
“We applaud government’s first step to treat all workers unconditionally. However, we continue imploring the employer to do likewise on salary earnings. We are not happy with the current salary discrepancies that have seen teachers earning less than the rest of the civil servants when we are working for the same employer,” Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe secretary-general Raymond Majongwe said.
Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe president Obert Masaraure said: “Government should always honour payment of the 13th cheque and it should come unconditionally. The employer should expedite the alignment of labour laws to the Constitution. Statutory Instrument 141 of 1997 which establishes the NJNC is ultra vires (contradicts) the Constitution and it follows that the NJNC must be disbanded. A genuine collective bargaining framework should be established for the bipartite engagement between government and its workers.”
Zimbabwe yesterday orbited its first satellite, ZimSat-1, through a Japanese facility on an American launcher, as the Second Republic continues to upgrade its practical technology to achieve Vision 2030, in this case having a dedicated satellite for Zimbabwean mapping rather than having to rely on others.
The country joined the league of nations that already own satellites when it sent its first satellite, ZimSat-1, into orbit after developing it through the BIRDS project.
Once the process is complete within days Zimbabwe will now enhance its mineral exploration, land and water mapping, weather forecasting and monitoring of environmental hazards and droughts.
Other benefits will include aiding in mapping human settlements infrastructure and border security.
President Mnangagwa has been the force behind the success demonstrated when he launched the Zimbabwe National Geospatial and Space Agency (ZINGSA) in 2018 which culminated in yesterday’s historic feat.
The launch expedited the country’s capabilities in the generation, access, use and regulation of the application of space technology and innovation for sustainable development.
ZimSat-1 yesterday morning started its journey into space through a spacecraft, the Northrop Grumman (NG-18 Cygnus).
It lifted off from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at the NASA Wallops Flight Facility on Wallops Island, Virginia, US.
The NG-18 Cygnus spacecraft is a commercial cargo resupply service to the International Space Station and carries satellites on behalf of NASA.
Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Permanent Secretary Professor Fanuel Tagwira said the satellite has been a major gain.
“We have made a milestone. The satellite was tested on the ground and it is working very well.
“It has been deployed to the International Space Station awaiting deployment. The actual date for deployment will be announced in a few days to come,.
Prof Tagwira also said Zimbabwe being an innovation-led and knowledge-driven economy, through satellite it is now able to gather information which can be used for decision making.-state media
A senior Harare lawyer accused of unprofessional conduct for allegedly negotiating to buy an immovable property from an accused person without consulting his client has been cleared of wrongdoing by the Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ).
Agmos Moyo from Kantor and Immerman, was representing South African firm, Umbrella Holding and Goldstone against local businessman Rodney Dangarembizi who had allegedly swindled his client of more than US$1 million in an agricultural service deal.
Umbrella Holdings and Goldstone, represented by directors Antony Denga and Owen Sher reported Moyo to LSZ after they suspected that the transaction could be a bribe meant to destroy their case against Dangarembizi.
Denga also raised a host of complaints against Moyo, forcing the latter to recuse himself from representing the firm.
In clearing Moyo, LSZ said the complaint was made by a disgruntled client who failed to substantiate the allegations.
LSZ, through its secretary Edward Mapara, said the council was of the view that the complaint was without merit and ought to be dismissed.
“Council at its meeting held on the 30 of August 2022 considered your complaint and the respondent’s responses. Council noted that this complaint was made by disgruntled litigants. You failed to substantiate your allegations against the respondent. You were dissatisfied with the decision of the court and you ought to have sought recourse from the same court. Council was of the view that the complaint was without merit and ought to be dismissed,” Mapara said in the letter that cleared Moyo.
“Council resolved that the respondent be found not guilty of any unprofessional conduct and that the complaint be dismissed. We will, therefore, proceed to close the file and will not take any further action. Be advised accordingly.”
Denga had accused Moyo of negotiating an out-of-court settlement with Dangarembizi in his absence and preparing a deed of settlement whose contents were never made public, leading to delays in the court case.
In his response to LSZ, Moyo said he had made an offer to purchase a property, which he later discovered belonged to Dangarembizi.
“I went into the market for the purchase of an immovable property. My offer was duly accepted and I requested the usual property documentation in order to carry out the due diligence exercise in respect of the property. That is when I discovered it belonged to Rodney Dangarembizi,” Moyo said at the time. -Newsday

WHO highlights high cost of physical inactivity in first-ever global report 19 October 2022 News release Geneva Reading time: 3 min (815 words) Almost 500 million people will develop heart disease, obesity, diabetes or other noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) attributable to physical inactivity, between 2020 and 2030, costing US$ 27 billion annually, if governments don’t take urgent action to encourage more physical activity among their populations.
The Global status report on physical activity 2022, published today by the World Health Organization, measures the extent to which governments are implementing recommendations to increase physical activity across all ages and abilities.
Data from 194 countries show that overall, progress is slow and that countries need to accelerate the development and implementation of policies to increase levels of physical activity and thereby prevent disease and reduce burden on already overwhelmed health care systems.
Less than 50% of countries have a national physical activity policy, of which less than 40% are operational Only 30% of countries have national physical activity guidelines for all age groups While nearly all countries report a system for monitoring physical activity in adults, 75% of countries monitor physical activity among adolescents, and less than 30% monitor physical activity in children under 5 years In policy areas that could encourage active and sustainable transport, only just over 40% of countries have road design standards that make walking and cycling safer. “We need more countries to scale up implementation of policies to support people to be more active through walking, cycling, sport, and other physical activity. The benefits are huge, not only for the physical and mental health of individuals, but also for societies, environments, and economies…” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, “We hope countries and partners will use this report to build more active, healthier, and fairer societies for all.”
The economic burden of physical inactivity is significant and the cost of treating new cases of preventable non-communicable diseases (NCDs) will reach nearly US$ 300 billion by 2030, around US$ 27 billion annually.
Whilst national policies to tackle NCDs and physical inactivity have increased in recent years, currently 28% of policies are reported to be not funded or implemented. Considered a “best buy” for motivating populations to combat NCDs, the report showed that only just over 50% of countries ran a national communications campaign, or organised mass participation physical activity events in the last two years. The COVID-19 pandemic has not only stalled these initiatives, but it also affected other policy implementation which has widened inequities in access to and, opportunities for, engaging in physical activity for many communities.
To help countries increase physical activity, WHO’s Global action plan on physical activity 2018-2030 (GAPPA) sets out 20 policy recommendations – including policies to create safer roads to encourage more active transport, provide more programmes and opportunities for physical activity in key settings, such as childcare, schools, primary health care and the workplace. Today’s Global Status report assesses country progress against those recommendations, and shows that much more needs to be done. One critical finding in the Global status report on physical activity is the existence of significant gaps in global data to track progress on important policy actions – such as provision of public open space, provision of walking and cycling infrastructure, provision of sport and physical education in schools. The report also calls for weaknesses in some existing data to also be addressed.
“We are missing globally approved indicators to measure access to parks, cycle lanes, foot paths – even though we know that data do exist in some countries. Consequently, we cannot report or track the global provision of infrastructure that will facilitate increases in physical activity, “said Fiona Bull, Head of WHO Physical Activity Unit. “It can be a vicious circle, no indicator and no data leads to no tracking and no accountability, and then too often, to no policy and no investment. What gets measured gets done, and we have some way to go to comprehensively and robustly track national actions on physical activity.”
The report calls for countries to prioritize physical activity as key to improving health and tackling NCDs, integrate physical activity into all relevant policies, and develop tools, guidance and training to improve implementation.
“It is good for public health and makes economic sense to promote more physical activity for everyone,” said Dr Ruediger Krech, Director Department of Health Promotion, WHO. “We need to facilitate inclusive programmes for physical activity for all and ensure people have easier access to them. This report issues a clear call to all countries for stronger and accelerated action by all relevant stakeholders working better together to achieve the global target of a 15% reduction in the prevalence of physical inactivity by 2030.”
Data for the report are drawn from the WHO Noncommunicable Disease Country Capacity Survey (2019 and 2022) and the WHO Global status report on road safety (2018).

A plane carrying 43 people has plunged into Lake Victoria in Tanzania during bad weather shortly before it was due to land in the north-west city of Bukoba, police have said, as rescuers search for survivors.
“There was an accident involving a Precision Air plane which … crashed into water about 100 metres from the airport,” the regional police commander William Mwampaghale told reporters at Bukoba airport.
The regional commissioner, Albert Chalamila, said 43 people – 39 passengers, two pilots and two cabin crew – were onboard flight PW494 from the financial capital, Dar es Salaam, to the lakeside city in the Kagera region.
“As we speak, we have managed to rescue 26 people who were taken to our referral hospital,” Chalamila said.
“The rescue operation is still ongoing and we are communicating with the pilots,” he said, adding that the aircraft was an ATR-42, manufactured by the Toulouse-based Franco-Italian firm ATR.
Precision Air, Tanzania’s largest private airline, released a brief statement confirming the incident. “The rescue team has been dispatched to the scene and more information will be released in two hours’ time,” the airline said.
Video footage broadcast on local media showed the plane largely submerged as rescuers, including fishers, waded through water to bring people to safety.
Emergency workers attempted to lift the aircraft out of the water using ropes and assisted by cranes as local residents also sought to help in the effort.
The president, Samia Suluhu Hassan, expressed her condolences to those affected by the accident. “Let’s continue to be calm while the rescue operation continues as we pray to God to help us,” she said on Twitter.
The African Union Commission chair, Moussa Faki Mahamat, shared his condolences, as did the secretary general of the regional East African Community bloc, Peter Mathuki.
“Our hearts and prayers go to the families of passengers on-board a plane that crashed into Lake Victoria, with our full solidarity to the Government & people of Tanzania,” Mahamat said on Twitter.
“The East African Community joins and sends our condolences to Mama Samia Suluhu Hassan, families and friends of all those who were affected by the Precision Air plane accident,” Mathuki tweeted.
Precision Air, which is partly owned by Kenya Airways, was founded in 1993 and operates domestic and regional flights as well as private charters to popular tourist destinations such as the Serengeti national park and the Zanzibar archipelago.
The incident comes five years after 11 people died when a plane belonging to the safari company Coastal Aviation crashed in northern Tanzania.
