Shocking Details Emerge On Macheke R_ape Case

By A Correspondent- An eight-year-old girl from Macheke has exposed a case of shocking child s_əxual abuse after detailing in court how a neighbour and three close family members, who include her father and brother, took turns to rap_e her with her mother ignoring her pleas for help.

The girl revealed this under cross examination when her parents appeared at the Marondera Magistrates Court this week where they were facing charges of s_əxually abusing their two children, the girl and a boy aged 11.

It also emerged in court that the boy was also abused by his mother and what’s more, he in turn also rap_ed the hapless eight-year-old girl, his biological sister!

The two minor children revealed the abuse to their aunt after they were caught engaging in a s_əxual act by the aunt, the mother’s elder sister whom they had visited in Mutoko.

The boy was first to be cross examined and he told the court that his mother s_əxually abused him four times.

“My mother called me into her bedroom where she was sleeping and told me to remove my clothes. She forced herself on me.

“When that was happening, she was covering my face with a T-shirt. All this happened when there was no one at home,” he said.

My aunt asked why my sister was limping and she told her that our father had rap_ed her. My uncle (the aunt’s husband) later asked me about it and that is when I revealed that I was also s_əxually abused by my mother in Macheke.”

As the trial proceeded, the eight-year-old girl went on to reveal that besides her father, three more people raped her.

“Yes, my father rap_ed me four times in his bedroom. When he first rap_ed me, I felt some pain and I bled,” she said.

“I told my mother and she said to me ‘I do not want to hear that nonsense.’ I was also rap_ed by Malvin (a neighbour and age not given). Malvin rap_ed me once and I told my mother who assaulted me.

“The following day, my mother sent us to Mutoko to her elder sister. In Mutoko, I was raped by Tanaka. He rap_ed me three times. Tanaka is the son to my aunt. When I told my aunt about it, she said, “I do not want to hear about that.”

The court proceedings had to take a break after the girl emotionally broke down and wept uncontrollably.

When the court proceedings resumed, the girl, who had regained her composure, revealed that even her 11-year-old brother had also rap_ed her.

Asked why she had not revealed that Tanaka and others had also rap_ed her, and if her aunt had influenced her not to reveal that her son had rap_ed her, the girl said the aunt had indeed influenced her not to reveal Tanaka’s alleged shenanigans.

She also maintained that her biological father had rap_ed her.

The couple pleaded not guilty to s_əxual abuse charges when they appeared before Marondera Magistrate Mr Ignatious Mhene.

The father (aged 41) is facing rap_e charges while the mother is facing aggravated indecent assault charge

Their lawyer Mr Chido Kavhumbura, said the charges were fabricated and accused the aunt of influencing the children to incriminate their parents.

Mr Kavhambura said the aunt was trying to conceal the se_xual abuse which could have happened when the girl was staying with her in Mutoko.

We Don’t Support Any Party, Says Britain After Promoting ZANU PF Since 2017 Coup

Great Britain has denied meddling in Zimbabwe’s electoral and political affairs and funding the opposition in its former colony.

Catriona Laing

In a statement, the British embassy in Harare said: “The UK does not support or fund any political party in Zimbabwe. We have no view on who should win next year’s elections; that is for Zimbabwean voters to decide. We talk to the Government and to all political parties.

“Zimbabwe’s constitution provides for an election process where all political parties are allowed to campaign freely and peacefully, without violence and intimidation, and where voters can vote for the party and candidates of their choice, without fear of reprisals.

“Fulfilling these conditions will allow Zimbabweans to have full confidence in their electoral process.”

This came out after the government repeatedly accused the UK and the West of funding opposition political parties, civic society organisations and the private media to cause regime change.

Government is currently in the process of pushing through the Private Voluntary Organisation (PVO) Bill that seeks to regulate the operations of CSOs accused of pushing a regime change agenda.

The PVO Amendment Bill is yet to be signed into law.

Zanu PF officials have often claimed that the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and other opposition parties were funded by the UK government.

CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Siziba said they get funding from party members.

“I cannot speak on behalf of the UK government, but what I know is that Zimbabwe is a democratic country, we the get our funding and support from the ordinary people

“We are not supported by any foreigners, we are Zimbabweans and we have the right to occupy public office in the land. What the UK says or does not say, our position is clear that we are supported by Zimbabweans,” Siziba said. -Newsday

“I Am Not Ashamed Of Being Biased Against Zanu PF”

By Tendai Mbofana| OCCASIONALLY, I am accused of being predominantly biased against the Zanu-PF regime and that there was a serious lack of balance and fairness in my discourses.

I plead guilty to the charges, but certainly not ashamed nor apologetic.

How many of us, particularly those who censure my style of writing, would bother to practise the same fairness, balance and impartiality they require of me if they had to give testimony on someone who brutally murdered their loved ones?

Just how would they tackle such a task?

What fairness, balance and impartiality would they say about the brutal murderer and what “positives” would they attest to his character?

How then is it any different from what I am doing?

Surely, on what basis can I be expected to feign neutrality when dealing with a bunch of incompetent people who have turned the lives of millions of innocent ordinary Zimbabweans into a living hell, including my own family, to the point of sinking them into destitution?

Exactly under what circumstances am I supposed to be disinterested and unaffected when my own mother — who gave 48 years of her life to the fallen State-owned iron and steel making giant ZiscoSteel, only to walk away with absolutely nothing to show for her toil and sweat — as she and thousands of other workers have never been given a single cent of their pensions and terminal benefits, after the company was looted and mismanaged into oblivion by the ruling elite, and their corruptly-appointed company executives?

As if that was not cruel enough, due to the destruction of the country’s economy by those in power, more specifically in the early 2000s, my mother lost every last dollar she had put aside in her bank accounts, insurance policies and other investments after the crashing of the local currency as a result of hyperinflation.

Can millions of Zimbabweans not attest to having faced a similar tragic fate?

Which child can ever forget seeing their own elderly mother weeping uncontrollably, in anguish at seeing her life go up in smoke, and callously thrown into destitution — all because of a regime that placed the interests of the political elite ahead of the nation they were supposed to lead and protect, but rather, opting to engage in street gangster economics that sought to enrich those in power, at the expense of the citizenry?

As we speak, pensioners and the elderly in Zimbabwe — those who are fortunate enough to receive social security — are given a paltry US$10 equivalent per month, only enough for a measly 10 loaves of bread.

Where am I to get the heart for fairness, when I have to watch, on a daily basis, these same fragile elderly women forced to carry heavy plastic containers of water on account of the lack of potable water in their homes as a result of the gross mismanagement, underhand dealings and corruption in urban local authorities, especially in my hometown of Redcliff?

In what way am I to find “positives” in those who prefer to enrich themselves by pillaging billions of dollars of our national resources, which they freely loot with vulgar impunity, yet the ordinary man, woman and child on the street cannot afford one square meal a day.

Pupils are now accustomed to learning without any textbooks at school, while hospitals have become places of death due to inadequate medical care.

What good am I expected to find in a cold-hearted and blood-thirsty lot, who believe that maliciously killing those who criticise or stand up to their disgusting misrule and corruption is justified — or who viciously beat them up, or throw them in prison for merely daring to exercise their constitutional rights?

Is that the treatment such people deserve?

From where can I find the balance and fairness amid such evil?

Is that not asking far too much of me?

It is akin to demanding that I write a fair, balanced and impartial story about Satan himself!

It cannot be done … it is impossible.

To be brutally honest, no matter what “good” the devil may claim to have done, there is nothing that can exonerate him from his dark diabolical acts, which far outweigh and cancel out any supposed “positive” acts.

I will not write much today, but I just wanted to set the record straight.

I am sure those whose lives have been great and not adversely affected by this villainous political elite in Zimbabwe can write, talk and sing all they want about how awesome their government is.

Fortunately, I do not speak for them.

I speak only for the voiceless millions who have suffered untold hardships and poverty under this regime, but are either too afraid to stand up and speak out against these savage injustices, or are not capacitated to do so.

The majority of those I speak for cannot even afford a smartphone and expensive data bundles (unlike the more privileged who demand “balance and fairness” — and, in all likelihood, have never read any of my articles, and never heard of my name.

In all those millions of Zimbabweans’ lives, there is absolutely no “fairness, balance and impartiality” in what the political elite are doing to them.

Frankly, at the moment, I am not even contemplating, even in my wildest dreams, writing anything positive about the current Zimbabwe regime.

Madzibaba Inside Chopper Equates ED with God

Over the years, members of the various Apostolic sects (Vapostori) have been looked down upon by many as uneducated and poverty-stricken.
This notion is reinforced by the fact that most madzibaba and madzimai (Apostolic sect followers) are known for being entrepreneurial as most prefer to work for themselves and run small businesses for survival.

The Vapostori are also known for their humble lifestyles and practices which see them worshipping in open spaces with no shed as well as not wearing shoes when going to church.

However, one Apostolic leader from Chitungwiza Owen Chingondi who is popularly known as Madzibaba Owen, last Sunday showed the world that the religion is not only for the poverty-stricken as perceived by many.

The 37-year-old Madzibaba, who leads the Johanne Masowe Echishanu’s Velvet branch, stunned many, when he arrived for a church service at his Chitungwiza shrine in a helicopter.

This has attracted a lot of attention and has stirred debate especially on social media, with even some high-profile naysayers rushing to research and speculate on the ownership of the helicopter.

The Saturday Herald caught up with the trending Apostolic leader at his shrine that is located near Makoni Shopping Centre in Chitungwiza.

“I was born in Highfield on 12 December 1984. I am a father of four children, including twins,” he said.

“I grew up in Highfield and went to Tsungai Primary School and then attended Mukai High for my secondary education. I am known for being prayerful since my childhood and I have never smoked or taken alcohol.”

Madzibaba Owen went on to reveal that he runs a fleet of buses and also owns several retail shops which affords him a decent lifestyle.

Questioned on the ownership of the helicopter which brought him to last Sunday’s church service, he could neither deny nor confirm if he owns the plane as he refused to dwell much on the ownership issue.

“Yes, the helicopter was here last Sunday and I am the one who came with it, but people should be content with seeing me with it as they will continue seeing me with it even in the coming years.

“People should not be surprised if they see the same helicopter with other people as it will be at work, hired by other people who are also free to have photos taken on it because that is its job,” said Madzibaba Owen.

He added that the reason for bringing the helicopter to the shrine was not for purposes of showing off.

“The reason for its coming here was that as Mapostori, we believe that our belongings need to be brought to the holy ground so that they are blessed by the Holy Spirit, that is why you find that we also bring our buses and cars to the shrine,” he said.

Madzibaba Owen’s shrine is also known for having top of the range vehicles such as Hummers, Fortuners and top of the range Mercedes Benz parked almost on a daily basis.

Those big cars are owned by our church members who have been blessed by God. Most of our church members did not come to our church already owning those cars, but acquired them after being blessed with fortunes by the Holy Spirit,” he said.

Madzibaba Owen reiterated his call that people should not look down upon Mapostori as they have equal capabilities just like any other person.

“We need to respect every religion and people from other religions should not look down on us as people who are poor and dull. Many Vapostori are very successful in life just like any other people.”

The Apostolic sect leader, who is also the Harare Province chair for Vapostori4ED said that his biggest message to the nation was that of unity.

“My message to the nation is that we should pray for our country so that we prosper in everything that we do. Even as we approach next year’s elections, we should pray and as part of the leadership for Vapostori4ED, we promise to mobilise a lot of votes for President Mnangagwa so that he romps to victory,” said Madzibaba Owen. Mafume Threatens July Moyo

HARARE City Council Mayor Jacob Mafume has threatened legal action over the slow disbursement of devolution funds to the local authority, saying the development is hampering service delivery in the capital.

This comes on the backdrop of government’s failure to meet the threshold of the allocated ZW$2,335 billion in disbursing the funds.

Speaking after the presentation of the US$347 million 2023 city council budget, Mafume said several attempts to acquire the devolutions funds from the government have been fruitless.

“There are steps that we will take. The funds meant for devolution are being abused. We are worried by the manner in which the devolution funds are being abused.

“The money is supposed to be coming to the councils. We have written to the ministry requesting the devolution money as per the requirement of the constitution. We will take several measures to take them to court,” said Jacob Mafume.

According to the constitution, the Government is mandated to distribute not less than five percent of the national revenue to the local authorities.

Opposition, which runs most local authorities in the country, has accused the government of politicising the devolution system.

Harare Residents Trust (HRT) director, Precious Shumba, said while the Council may take the legal route, it should also leverage on other revenue streams.

“The HRT expects Councillor Mafume as the mayor of Harare to fully grasp the politics behind the delayed implementation of devolution and demonstrate that his council will not engage in unfruitful lawsuits that only increase the political tensions and hardening of positions at the expense of service delivery.

“It is important that Councillor Mafume invests more of his time in sweating the available council resources and be more innovative in addressing the huge funding gap by leveraging on their council assets, represented in strategic business units.”

Nothing To Celebrate From Govt Bonus Offer: Civil Servants

CIVIL servants are set to receive their bonus in United States dollars including a flat US$200 presidential bonus, but unions said there was nothing to be celebrated.

A correspondence from the National Joint Negotiation Committee (NJNC) held on Monday seen by NewsDay read: “Payment of the 2022 bonus for deputy director level and grades below will be in US dollars as 100% of gross pensionable emoluments (basic salary, transport and housing allowance. An additional US$200 will be paid to every employee as a special presidential bonus.

“The bonus will be paid in two equal tranches across all sectors starting from November, with the latest payment being in December.”

Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions’ Cecilia Alexander confirmed the bonus agreement, but unions representing civil servants were, however, not amused.

“The 100% bonus remains paltry because it is 100% of a paltry income. We insist that salaries should be adjusted to pre-October 2018 level. Paying in instalments will further erode the purchasing power of the bonus,” Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (Artuz) president Obert Masaraure said.

Civil servants are demanding pre-October 2018 United States dollar salaries to make ends meet in the face of skyrocketing cost of living.

Masaraure said: “The parties who signed representing NJNC should be ashamed for sustaining an illegal platform for their own expediency. Civil servants deserve a genuine collective bargaining platform in line with Convention 154 of ILO, best practices in the region and section 65(5) of our own Constitution.

“The naming of an annual bonus as presidential shows that we are not serious as a nation. What’s so presidential about that paltry amount? Someone somewhere is reducing the Office of the President to a joke.”

Zimbabwe Nurses Association president Enock Dongo also said the figure was too little.

“We want to appeal to government to pay the bonus at once in one month, not to divide it into two since it’s not much and also we are still asking for more. The figure presented as bonus is too little to thank the hardworking employees with,” Dongo said.

Private sector workers are also demanding United States dollar salaries.

CCC Top Officials Accused Of Stampeding For Zanu PF Money

There are reports reaching this reporter indicating that some Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) senior members are stampeding for ZANU PF’s stipends as the ruling party is leaving no stone unturned in its bid to win the forthcoming elections.

A source who spoke to this publication said that Chamisa’s assertions last week that ZANU PF was dishing out money to senior opposition figures to destabilise the CCC ahead of the 2023 elections are not groundless.

“ZANU PF is recruiting senior CCC members ahead of the 2023 elections. A number of CCC bigwigs are now on ZANU PF’s payroll. 2023 is going to be a difficult year for Nelson Chamisa as some of his lieutenants are literally ZANU PF employees,” said the source.

The source added that the bigwigs view their future in CCC as uncertain and are hedging their political prospects by working with ZANU PF.

Chamisa is reportedly aware of the ZANU PF machinations and has resolved to relegate all suspected moles to the peripheries of that party’s leadership structure.

The same source added that some CCC top brass were convinced that there is life in ZANU PF after seeing former opposition figures such as Obert Gutu, James Maridadi, Lilian Timveous and Jessie Majome being rewarded with some lucrative appointments after they crossed floor to ZANU PF.

Gutu has been appointed National Peace and Reconciliation Commission commissioner, Maridadi was appointed ambassador to Senegal while Timveous was appointed Petrotrade board member after defecting to ZANU PF. Majome was also appointed the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commissioner after she had dumped the opposition.

“Some CCC members are not waiting to be bribed by ZANU PF but are nicodemously approaching ZANU PF officials seeking to be admitted into the Party,” said the source.

Meanwhile, there are reports that the office of the ZANU PF National Political Commissar, Mike Bimha is inundated with letters from opposition members who are requesting to be admitted into the ruling party structures.

Efforts to get a comment from CCC interim national spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere were futile as her mobile phones were not reachable.

Former Mugabe Top Aide Dies

By-Former Manicaland Provincial Governor and Deputy Minister of Industry and International Trade, Kenneth Vhundukai Manyonda (88), has died.

Manyonda also served as a Member of Parliament for Buhera North after defeating the late Movement for Democratic Change president, Mr Morgan Tsvangirai during the 2000 parliamentary elections.

According to the Herald, Manyonda was the acting Chief Nerutanga at the time of his death:

Mutasa South Member of Parliament as well as the late veteran nationalist’s nephew, Misheck Mugadza confirmed Manyonda’s death. He said:

Yes, I can confirm the passing on of our father, grandfather, mentor and veteran politician, Cde Kenneth Manyonda. We are what we are today because of him as he was a fatherly figure. He motivated me to be a lawyer and for me to be a politician, I took it from him.

Cde Manyonda died early this morning at Marlborough Clinic in Harare where he was admitted. He has been unwell for some time. For us, his death is a double blow as he was the acting Chief Nerutanga.

Manyonda was born in Buhera in 1934 and after completing his education he worked in various jobs in the industrial and commercial sector.

He became a member of the African National Congress of Rhodesia soon after its formation and then joined the National Democratic Party after the banning of the ANC, becoming the local branch secretary of the NDP in Gweru.

After a short period working in Livingstone, Zambia, Manyonda returned to Gweru in 1962, where he was asked to become chairman of the Gweru branch of ZAPU.

Also at that time, Manyonda first became involved in trade union activity.

Following the split in ZAPU and the formation of ZANU in 1963, Manyonda joined the latter organisation.

He became vice-chairman of the Gweru branch and was increasingly involved in both political and trade union activities.

In 1966 he was arrested and began what turned out to be over two years of detention and was released in 1968.

He left Rhodesia in 1970 after obtaining a British government grant to study industrial relations in the UK.

He came back after independence and worked in various Government departments until his appointment as Manicaland Provincial Governor.

He is survived by four children.

Mukuruva Slams American League

Tatenda Mkuruva has blasted the National Independent Soccer Association after the football body snubbed him for the Golden Glove Award.

Mkuruva, who plays for third-tier club Michigan Stars, was among the favourites to clinch the honour but lost to Cal United goalkeeper Jean Antoine at the League’s awards ceremony held on Thursday.

The Zimbabwean goalie feels he was robbed after making eleven clean sheets in the regular season and three more in the play-offs. He also helped his team to their maiden league championship.

On the other hand, Antoine had twelve clean sheets in the regular campaign but failed to keep one in the play-offs.

In a series of tweets, Mkuruva slammed the organisers of the awards and declared he will boycott future events.

He tweeted: “Only in @NISALeague where someone with 14 clean sheets and a championship doesn’t deserve the golden glove.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Kariba Woman Survives Elephant Attack

A Kariba woman is lucky to be alive after being attacked by an elephant while fetching water from an outside tap early this morning.

Miss Angela Kamberembere was filling up containers with water at Number 1158, Nyamhunga 2 Township, near Nyanhewe Primary School when she suddenly saw the elephant.

The elephant attempted to grab her with the trunk and she fell to the ground.

“The moment the elephant charged to attack me further, its right leg got stuck in a dish.

“This must have distracted it allowing me to recover before I started crawling away after gaining composure,” she said.

Residents in the area have blamed perennial water problems which have resulted in water coming out of taps between midnight and 4pm.

“Kariba Municipality is letting residents down. Instead of sleeping, we are busy filling up containers with water, exposing us to dangers with wild animals.

“We heard Angela screaming and we rushed to make noise which must have distracted the elephant. She is lucky to be alive,” said Mrs Albertina Botai.

Mrs Svinurai Vhareni said the elephant now frequents the area where it drinks water stored in dishes and other containers.

Mrs Vhareni said their rooms were too small to store water indoors.

The residents said water problems started in 2018 when Kariba Municipality connected additional institutional water users.

Former Nigerian President Discredits Mnangagwa Administration

By-Former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo has blamed Zimbabwe for a spate of coups in Africa saying the southern African country set a bad precedent by removing its founding leader late President Robert Mugabe from office in November 2017.

Obasanjo who served as Nigeria’s head of state from 1976 to 1979 and later as its president from 1999 to 2007 made the remarks while addressing the Pan-African Parliament in Midrand, Johannesburg South Africa, according to ZimLive. He said:

I once moved a motion in 1999 then that any country that has a government not through constitutional means should be suspended.

There should be no half measures about these; It started in Zimbabwe where they said ‘it’s not a coup and it’s a half coup, it’s near a coup. A coup is a coup! Citizens of Africa have been able to shun leaders who amend the constitution, intending to personally gain from such amendments.

His remarks were apparently in reference to Operation Restore Legacy which was led by then commander Constantino Chiwenga, now state Vice President which resulted in Mugabe’s “forced” resignation.

The Zimbabwean military staged the operation on the eve of 15 November and members of the public joined and thronged to the streets demanding that “Mugabe Must Go!!!”

The events paved way for the installation of Mugabe’s long-time aide and now president Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Since then nations such as Sudan, Mali and Burkina Faso have experienced recent coups and are under military rule.

Military coups were a regular occurrence in Africa in the decades after independence and there is great concern they are starting to become more frequent.

A study by US researchers, Jonathan Powell and Clayton Thyne, identified over 200 coup attempts in Africa since the 1950s and about half of these have been successful.

I learnt with deep sorrow and sadness of the passing on early yesterday of Cde. Kenneth Manyonda, our former Deputy Minister and then Governor of Manicaland Province. Although I knew he had been unwell for quite some time, I still hoped he would pull through, thus remaining with us for much longer. Sadly, this was not to be.

A quietly spoken veteran nationalist who cut his political teeth in trade unionism during colonial days, Cde Manyonda remained in step with our nationalist movement and the struggle until our National Independence. He had joined politics far back in the heady days of the National Democratic Party, NDP, and had remained engaged until we attained our Independence. Like his peers, Cde Manyonda suffered harassment and incarceration at the hands of the colonial authorities, but without ever giving up or abandoning the cause. He thus stands in national annals as a symbol of fearless fortitude and unwavering commitment.

After Independence, he served his country diligently, including in the higher office of minister of Government after his appointment as Deputy Minister and, later as Governor of Manicaland Province. As a Member of Parliament for Buhera West, he served the community with remarkable foresight, including in respect of a rural livestock upgrading programme which he introduced well before our Land Reform Programme. Later, he would pioneer commercial brick-making project in Mutare thus anticipating the rapid construction thrust which comes with urbanisation we now witness across the country. He had this knack for living and investing ahead of his times.

On behalf of the Party, ZANU PF, Government, my Family and on my behalf, I wish to express by deepest, heartfelt condolences to the Manyonda Family, especially to his immediate family, on this their saddest lost. As they grieve over the loss of their beloved father and guardian, may they find solace in that our whole Nation joins them and shares their grief.

May his dear soul rest in eternal peace.

Mukuruva Blasts American League

What Is Dementia ?

Key facts

Dementia is a syndrome in which there is deterioration in cognitive function beyond what might be expected from the usual consequences of biological ageing.
Although dementia mainly affects older people, it is not an inevitable consequence of ageing.

Currently more than 55 million people live with dementia worldwide, and there are nearly 10 million new cases every year.

Dementia results from a variety of diseases and injuries that primarily or secondarily affect the brain. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia and may contribute to 60-70% of cases.

Dementia is currently the seventh leading cause of death among all diseases and one of the major causes of disability and dependency among older people globally.

Dementia has physical, psychological, social and economic impacts, not only for people living with dementia, but also for their carers, families and society at large.
Dementia is a syndrome – usually of a chronic or progressive nature – that leads to deterioration in cognitive function (i.e. the ability to process thought) beyond what might be expected from the usual consequences of biological ageing. It affects memory, thinking, orientation, comprehension, calculation, learning capacity, language, and judgement. Consciousness is not affected. The impairment in cognitive function is commonly accompanied, and occasionally preceded, by changes in mood, emotional control, behaviour, or motivation.

Dementia results from a variety of diseases and injuries that primarily or secondarily affect the brain, such as Alzheimer’s disease or stroke.

Dementia is currently the seventh leading cause of death among all diseases and one of the major causes of disability and dependency among older people worldwide. Dementia has physical, psychological, social and economic impacts, not only for people living with dementia, but also for their carers, families and society at large. There is often a lack of awareness and understanding of dementia, resulting in stigmatization and barriers to diagnosis and care.

Signs and symptoms
Dementia affects each person in a different way, depending upon the underlying causes, other health conditions and the person’s cognitive functioning before becoming ill. The signs and symptoms linked to dementia can be understood in three stages.

Early stage: the early stage of dementia is often overlooked because the onset is gradual. Common symptoms may include:

forgetfulness
losing track of the time
becoming lost in familiar places.
Middle stage: as dementia progresses to the middle stage, the signs and symptoms become clearer and may include:

becoming forgetful of recent events and people’s names
becoming confused while at home
having increasing difficulty with communication
needing help with personal care
experiencing behaviour changes, including wandering and repeated questioning
Late stage: the late stage of dementia is one of near total dependence and inactivity. Memory disturbances are serious and the physical signs and symptoms become more obvious and may include:

becoming unaware of the time and place
having difficulty recognizing relatives and friends
having an increasing need for assisted self-care
having difficulty walking
experiencing behaviour changes that may escalate and include aggression.
Common forms of dementia
There are many different forms of dementia. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form and may contribute to 60-70% of cases. Other major forms include vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies (abnormal aggregates of protein that develop inside nerve cells), and a group of diseases that contribute to frontotemporal dementia (degeneration of the frontal lobe of the brain). Dementia may also develop after a stroke or in the context of certain infections such as HIV, harmful use of alcohol, repetitive physical injuries to the brain (known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy) or nutritional deficiencies. The boundaries between different forms of dementia are indistinct and mixed forms often co-exist.

Rates of dementia
Worldwide, around 55 million people have dementia, with over 60% living in low- and middle-income countries. As the proportion of older people in the population is increasing in nearly every country, this number is expected to rise to 78 million in 2030 and 139 million in 2050.

Risk factors and prevention

Although age is the strongest known risk factor for dementia, it is not an inevitable consequence of biological ageing. Further, dementia does not exclusively affect older people – young onset dementia (defined as the onset of symptoms before the age of 65 years) accounts for up to 9% of cases. Studies show that people can reduce their risk of cognitive decline and dementia by being physically active, not smoking, avoiding harmful use of alcohol, controlling their weight, eating a healthy diet, and maintaining healthy blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels. Additional risk factors include depression, social isolation, low educational attainment, cognitive inactivity and air pollution.

FULL TEXT: DJ Ollah 7 Clears Air On Star FM Show

“Good morning, I’ve seen a lot of positive and negative comments on social media about the show, let me put the record straight. The show is called ON THE SPOT, I’m sure you all understand what it means to be on the spot.

Most people catch feelings after their favorite is being asked difficult questions. I don’t ask questions from top of my head but I ask questions which are already known.

Most of our public figures do not have time to share their side of the stories, they get trolled and judged on social media but I have created a platform for them as well to tell their side of the story only that I do it differently.

The show has been going on since last year November, it’s not always about scandals or controversy sometimes it’s about inspiring people for example if you watch the interview I did with Daniel Chingoma recently you will not get any controversy.

The only thing here is that I have interviewed 4 socialites in a row and they have a lot of fans that’s why people are saying this now. ON THE SPOT is a no holds bar show, first if it’s kind . I interview politicians, soccer stars, socialites, musicians, business people, actors and more.

During the interview you may think that I don’t talk to these guys ? in actual fact I talk to all of them privately and most of them ask me to be on my show they love the grilling because to some extent it gives them relevance and put them back on the limelight. We talk, we laugh after the show.

I have no problem with anyone I’ve interviewed so far.Jackie Ngarande Officiall posted something this morning which I don’t understand kuti is it because people are saying something different now or what ? Coz we both enjoyed the interview, and Tate even attacked me for accepting a gift from Jackie achitofunga kuti ndakabhadharwa . Kkk it’s funny how people react.

If you look at other countries, you will realize that we’re still behind in terms of our show buzz, look for other interviews on internet, you will understand what I am doing. Lastly, the show benefits the interviewee coz they get a platform to air their side of story though I will be hard on them.

It also gives people the real picture of the person interviewed than to judge from a distance. It also keeps them on the limelight for example, we’re talking about the previous interviews and the people who were on the show it’s called relevance.

Expect more hard core interviews, more interesting and intriguing ones.

My inbox is full with people who wanna come on the show.”

Civil Servants Get Paltry Poultry

-Newsday

Former Mugabe Aide Dies

Zupco In Horror Crash

By-Five people have been injured in a Zimbabwe United Passengers Company (ZUPCO) accident along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road.

The bus veered off the road, hit a tree and landed on its side on Wednesday.

Matabeleland North Acting police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Christopher Mahohoma confirmed the accident to NewsDay.

The officer said the bus driver lost control of the vehicle in which the injured people were travelling in. Mahohoma said:

The bus had 19 passengers on board and the five injured were not seriously hurt but the bus was badly damaged.

Drivers must be cautious on the roads when they are using public roads.

Indications are that Mandlenkosi Manda (31) who was driving an unregistered Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) bus lost control when he tried to overtake another vehicle upon reaching the 1km peg along the Bulawayo-Victoria falls road.

Meanwhile, five days ago, 4 people including the driver, died on the spot while 18 others were injured on the same road when a Binga bus veered off the road.

Elephant Nearly Kills Kariba Woman

Kadewere La Liga Debut Delayed

Tinotenda Kadewere’s La Liga debut was delayed again after the striker was not used in Real Mallorca’s 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.

Kadewere, who returned from injury over the weekend, made the matchday squad but sat out for the entire game.

The Zimbabwean striker, eho switched from Lyon on a season-long loan deal, is yet to play this term after missing the first part of the season due to a muscle injury sustained in early September.

He was also an unused substitute in Sunday’s game against Villarreal.

Meanwhile, the Wednesday’s victory saw Mallorca climbing to 10th on 19 points.

Vedat Muriqi scored Mallorca’s winner in the 16th minute, his fifth goal in his last five games, after Antonio Sanchez fired a long-range shot that Jan Oblak palmed away to the right before Jaume Costa set up the Kosovo striker to tap in to the empty net.

Atletico, who were eliminated from European competition last week, fell from third to sixth in the LaLiga standings on 24 points, eight behind Real Madrid who play Cadiz on Thursday and 13 adrift of leaders Barcelona.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Obasanjo Blasts Mnangagwa

President Chamisa Pushes For Reforms Before Polls

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has accused political rival Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa of deliberately delaying the implementation of reforms before polls.

President Chamisa slammmed Mr Mnangagwa’s administration for playing mind games with citizens.

Writing on Twitter, President Chamisa called for key reforms before elections.

“There are no genuine reforms in the Zpf/government proposed electoral reforms by cabinet.

A pre-election pact on reforms by all parties, civil society and stakeholders is key.

Any unilateral political decision will produce a disputed and discredited national leadership.#onevision

VISIONARY LEADERS from other countries like UAE, Singapore, Malaysia etc. saw this and worked for their countries to get there. Zimbabwe can be that country too if we choose right leaders, vote for real change and stop looting of national resources. #RegisterToVote,” said President in a statement.

Mnangagwa Loots Civil Servants Funds

Tinashe Sambiri|Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration is looting civil servants’ money in broad daylight.

This was said by the Citizens’ Coalition for Change ( CCC) led by President Nelson Chamisa.

In a statement on Wednesday, CCC denounced the rampant looting of resources by Mr Mnangagwa’s administration.

“CORRUPTION IS KILLING US:
The regime in Harare looted the civil servants’ medical service provider, PSMAS, until it closed shop. Now the same looters are using the public funds to bail out the same institution it looted.
We need new leaders.

The situation in Zimbabwe requires a robust, brave, and proactive responses, solutions and actions.

As CCC , we offer a new democracy promise with actions and solutions to the agenda for real transformation in Zimbabwe.

We offer our promise and commitment to a New Zimbabwe under our soon to be availed New Zimbabwe Document.”

Mnangagwa Begs ReAdmission Into British Commonwealth

ZANU PF leader, Emmerson Mnangagwa is begging for Zimbabwe to be readmitted into the Commonwealth after 19 years continuing outside it, it has emerged, just as an assessment mission was expected in the country tomorrow for a week-long visit.

The trip is aimed at assessing progress made by Zimbabwe following an application submitted in 2018 for re-admission into the club.
The visit dovetails with the Second Republic led by Mnangagwa’s engagement and re-engagement thrust anchored with the policy of a “friend to all and an enemy to none”.

In a statement last night, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Frederick Shava said the mission will be led by Assistant Secretary General, Professor Luis Franceschi and will be in the country from November 12 to 18, 2022.

“A Commonwealth assessment mission will be in Zimbabwe from November 12 to 18, 2022, at the invitation of His Excellency President ED Mnangagwa, to assess the progress that the country has made following the application it submitted in 2018 to rejoin the organisation.

“The mission, led by assistant secretary general Professor Luis Franceschi, will be visiting the country for the third time, in line with Zimbabwe’s re-engagement thrust that seeks to reset and rekindle its foreign relations in order to create a conducive and supportive environment for the successful implementation of NDS1 and the realisation of Vision 2030,” said Minister Shava.

“During the visit, the Mission will meet with His Excellency the President and hold discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador FM Shava, and other ministers and senior Government officials covering the political, legislative and economic reforms that the Government has under the Second Republic. It will also engage the media and other stakeholders on matters of interest to the organisation.”

Commonwealth secretary general, Mrs Patricia Scotland was in South Africa early this month where she addressed the first ordinary session of the 6th Pan African Parliament pledging to deploy a team in Harare to assess the situation on the ground.

She said several engagements had been made and the current stage with regards to Zimbabwe’s application to re-join the club was to have an assessment team which will eventually report back before a position is taken.

Mrs Scotland said she was “delighted that Zimbabwe is putting a great deal of energy and commitment to be re-admitted back into the Commonwealth”.

Mnangagwa met Mrs Scotland in 2019 on the sidelines of the 74th United Nations General Assembly where the Head of State and Government outlined several steps including reforms that had been undertaken by Zimbabwe.

In his address at the UN General Assembly, President Mnangagwa said it was important to note that Zimbabwe had not been expelled from the Commonwealth, but had withdrawn and the issues that led to its pulling out, that of land reform, had since become water under the bridge.

The land reform programme was meant to address historical imbalances that saw rationalisation of land ownership from white minority owning large swaps of land to the black majority who hitherto had been on unfertile and unproductive soil.-state media

Robbers Run Off With USD62K

Top Zim- SA Based Businessman Arrested In SA

By- The South African Police have arrested Zimbabwe Businessman Frank Sadiqi Buyanga on allegations of child trafficking and other charges.

Charges also include immigration violations and forgery, a local online news portal NewZimbabwe.com reported citing a SAPS statement signed by Colonel Athlenda Mathe. Reads the statement:

Sadiqi is wanted by the Zimbabwean authorities for child trafficking, forgery and violation of the immigration act.

The charges emanate from an incident which took place in April 2020 in Zimbabwe where the suspect kidnapped his next of kin and fled with him to South Africa.

A warrant of arrest was immediately issued by Zimbabwean Authorities after which a red notice was also issued by Interpol Harare.

Buyanga and his ex-girlfriend Chantelle Muteswa have for years been embroiled in a legal battle over the custody of their minor son.

In 2020 Buyanga allegedly kidnapped his son from the hands of the mother and fled to South Africa.

This was after he was granted custody by the Supreme Court in a landmark ruling that gave equal access to unmarried couples.

Buyanga was allegedly being accompanied by two men armed with guns when he staged the ‘heist’ outside a Spar Supermarket in Harare’s Waterfalls suburb.

He was later listed on Interpol’s Red Notice.

Marange Villagers Demand Relocation

By- Villagers in diamond-rich Marange, Manicaland province, are demanding to be relocated in protest against being put in a restriction camp under the Protected Places and Areas Act (PPAA).

They said PPAA had subjected the area to underdevelopment, triggering increased human rights violations.

They also threatened to protest on November 15 over the PPAA issue, reported NewsDay Zimbabwe quoting a statement by community-based organisations (CBOs) and civic society organisations (CSOs) operating in Marange. Read the statement:

We are demanding review of General Notice of 180 of 2007 placing Chiadzwa under PPAA, according to section 6(2) of the PPAA. The conditions and compliance to it, therefore, are leading to violation of human rights.

Unjustifiable or unreasonable limitation of constitutional rights, section 86(3) provides that no law may limit the following rights enshrined in the Bill of Rights and no person may violate them: the right to life, the right to dignity, the right not to be tortured or subjected to cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment or punishment. These rights are violated daily in Marange.

(Development is lagging in) Marange community because Mutare Rural District Council is not at liberty to undertake development without permission from the diamond concession holders. The process is arduous and unsustainable.

We demand to be relocated if the PPAA conditions are not reviewed. We did not ask to be in a protected area or under the military. Mining companies in Marange must strengthen their own security capabilities. Government committed to a phased withdrawal of the military in Marange in 2009, but Marange has remained heavily militarised.

Some of the CBOs and CSOs operating in Marange include Marange Development Trust, Chiadzwa Community Development Trust, Bocha Community Development Trust, Centre for Research and Development, Centre for Natural Resources Governance, and Zimbabwe Diamond Allied Workers Union.

Some of the villagers were moved from their homes to pave way for mining activities.

The easiest steps to save the environment

Can one person save our planet from ecological disaster? My answer is absurd. Of course, it is almost impossible to achieve something alone, but if each of us changes our attitude toward the environment, we can accomplish the impossible.

The reason for all environmental problems is people’s irrational and irresponsible behavior. Therefore, changing people’s attitudes toward nature is the key to solving many problems. Today, in many countries of the Western world we can observe the tendency of ecologization of the population, i.e. people change their habits and preferences for the benefit of the environment and nature preservation. This article gives some basic steps for those who are ready to take a new look at environmental problems and are genuinely interested in solving them. For example, saving electricity in the name of ecology, you can play teen patti sites not from your computer but from your phone. Let’s talk about these kinds of tips and tricks below.

What is environmental awareness?

Environmental awareness, or eco-consciousness, is a multi-component concept. It manifests itself in many different ways: it includes sorting waste, living a Zero Waste lifestyle, reducing waste to the minimum possible, avoiding unnecessary, often impulsive purchases, choosing alternative energy sources, and much more. At the heart of it all is, above all, caring for the environment. And it is always the default focus.

In other words, the eco-conscious person runs every decision through their particular rules and requirements, understanding how it will affect nature. So if you start, it is not so difficult, and then it becomes a habit.

How to become an eco-conscious person

Just start. And do it gradually so that the stress of a sudden lifestyle change will be minimal, and you won’t want to return to the way things were.

Start small. For example, buy products strictly according to a list, not everything – and then put them in the trash. Give up plastic bags. For organic waste, you can make a compost pit on the property. Finally, start to sort your garbage.

An even more global aspect of eco-conscientious life deals with the transition to alternative energy sources: solar or wind. It is already a significant financial investment. Of course, such a step requires preparation and specific conditions. But even small steps in the right direction will give excellent results.

There are five basic rules to follow

  • Conserve Energy. And here it’s simple: turn off the lights when you don’t need them. There’s an instant bonus here – you’ll have to pay less for utilities. You can replace all the bulbs in the house LED. Emphasize – not fluorescent: they contain mercury vapor. Nature would not like that. And they are difficult to dispose of. When buying, choose energy-saving household appliances. It is also a good idea to put a dishwasher if you do not have one. It will allow you to save more water. For the same purpose, it is advised to take a shower instead of a bath and to install economical shower heads. And motion sensors in the rooms will not allow you to bother with turning on and off the light. In general, the list could go almost to infinity. Daily savings of resources by each of us is a massive step towards a “healthy” planet.
  • Save Water. Water is the source of life on earth and requires special treatment. Try to save water whenever possible, and don’t let water get contaminated by household runoff. Teach your children to turn off the water tap, collect rainwater for irrigation, and avoid throwing garbage into rivers (if you live nearby) and irrigation canals. Large and small rivers originate from the territory of GBAO and flow to several Central Asian countries. So residents of the upper Pyandj/Amu Darya have a great responsibility to keep the river clean.
  • Do not throw garbage around. Garbage is one of the leading causes of environmental pollution in cities and rural areas. Large amounts of domestic and industrial trash are thrown away daily. Always try to throw trash only in particular garbage cans, and teach your children to do so. If everyone treats nature responsibly and manages their waste, it will noticeably improve the problem with garbage. But it is also the responsibility of local authorities to ensure the collection and disposal of trash.
  • Give up disposable things. It is what all followers of the Zero Waste movement do, bringing us closer to zero-waste consumption. The main rule is that the less waste, the better. Even by not buying coffee in a paper cup with a plastic lid every time, by giving the barista your thermal mug, or throwing in your bag a reusable water bottle instead of a plastic disposable one, you make the planet cleaner safer.

Try to buy fewer things.

The habit of shopping and buying different products harms the environment. Most unnecessary things end up in a landfill, and some of them, for example, shoes and cosmetics, are tough to recycle. When buying a new something, ask yourself if you need it. If you can’t refuse to update your closet, try to give your old clothes to “second-hand” stores or particular collection points for reusing and recycling things.

Choose eco products.

Suppose you look closely at the products in the store, on many packages. In that case, you will see an “eco” sign indicating the environmental nature of the products and the manufacturer’s attitude towards nature. This sign indicates that only natural products were used for the production, or the packaging is made from recycled material or biodegradable material. By giving preference to eco-products, you support the producers of eco-products and contribute to the preservation of nature.

Choose a bicycle instead of a car.

It is far from a secret that road transport is one of the primary sources of air pollution from various exhaust gases. Therefore, choosing a bicycle or public transportation over a private car significantly contributes to preserving clean air. Today, in many European cities, you can see the trend of bicycle transport, which improves the air quality daily. By choosing to ride a bicycle, you are saving the environment and your budget and having a positive impact on your health.

Environmental Education.

Last but not least, there is environmental education, which plays a vital role in the formation of ecological culture. Unfortunately, most people worldwide do not have access to environmental information and allow a negative impact on nature without realizing it. Accordingly, the more people access ecological education and information; the less pressure will be on our natural environment. Therefore, updating your ecology and environmental protection knowledge is essential, and always be aware of the latest news and trends.

Five Injured In Zupco Horror Crash

Exercise Good For Health

WHO highlights high cost of physical inactivity in first-ever global report
19 October 2022 News release Geneva Reading time: 3 min (815 words)
Almost 500 million people will develop heart disease, obesity, diabetes or other noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) attributable to physical inactivity, between 2020 and 2030, costing US$ 27 billion annually, if governments don’t take urgent action to encourage more physical activity among their populations.

The Global status report on physical activity 2022, published today by the World Health Organization, measures the extent to which governments are implementing recommendations to increase physical activity across all ages and abilities.

Data from 194 countries show that overall, progress is slow and that countries need to accelerate the development and implementation of policies to increase levels of physical activity and thereby prevent disease and reduce burden on already overwhelmed health care systems.

Less than 50% of countries have a national physical activity policy, of which less than 40% are operational
Only 30% of countries have national physical activity guidelines for all age groups
While nearly all countries report a system for monitoring physical activity in adults, 75% of countries monitor physical activity among adolescents, and less than 30% monitor physical activity in children under 5 years
In policy areas that could encourage active and sustainable transport, only just over 40% of countries have road design standards that make walking and cycling safer.
“We need more countries to scale up implementation of policies to support people to be more active through walking, cycling, sport, and other physical activity. The benefits are huge, not only for the physical and mental health of individuals, but also for societies, environments, and economies…” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, “We hope countries and partners will use this report to build more active, healthier, and fairer societies for all.”

The economic burden of physical inactivity is significant and the cost of treating new cases of preventable non-communicable diseases (NCDs) will reach nearly US$ 300 billion by 2030, around US$ 27 billion annually.

Whilst national policies to tackle NCDs and physical inactivity have increased in recent years, currently 28% of policies are reported to be not funded or implemented. Considered a “best buy” for motivating populations to combat NCDs, the report showed that only just over 50% of countries ran a national communications campaign, or organised mass participation physical activity events in the last two years. The COVID-19 pandemic has not only stalled these initiatives, but it also affected other policy implementation which has widened inequities in access to and, opportunities for, engaging in physical activity for many communities.

To help countries increase physical activity, WHO’s Global action plan on physical activity 2018-2030 (GAPPA) sets out 20 policy recommendations – including policies to create safer roads to encourage more active transport, provide more programmes and opportunities for physical activity in key settings, such as childcare, schools, primary health care and the workplace. Today’s Global Status report assesses country progress against those recommendations, and shows that much more needs to be done. One critical finding in the Global status report on physical activity is the existence of significant gaps in global data to track progress on important policy actions – such as provision of public open space, provision of walking and cycling infrastructure, provision of sport and physical education in schools. The report also calls for weaknesses in some existing data to also be addressed.

“We are missing globally approved indicators to measure access to parks, cycle lanes, foot paths – even though we know that data do exist in some countries. Consequently, we cannot report or track the global provision of infrastructure that will facilitate increases in physical activity, “said Fiona Bull, Head of WHO Physical Activity Unit. “It can be a vicious circle, no indicator and no data leads to no tracking and no accountability, and then too often, to no policy and no investment. What gets measured gets done, and we have some way to go to comprehensively and robustly track national actions on physical activity.”

The report calls for countries to prioritize physical activity as key to improving health and tackling NCDs, integrate physical activity into all relevant policies, and develop tools, guidance and training to improve implementation.

“It is good for public health and makes economic sense to promote more physical activity for everyone,” said Dr Ruediger Krech, Director Department of Health Promotion, WHO. “We need to facilitate inclusive programmes for physical activity for all and ensure people have easier access to them. This report issues a clear call to all countries for stronger and accelerated action by all relevant stakeholders working better together to achieve the global target of a 15% reduction in the prevalence of physical inactivity by 2030.”

Data for the report are drawn from the WHO Noncommunicable Disease Country Capacity Survey (2019 and 2022) and the WHO Global status report on road safety (2018).

Married Woman Dies While Travelling To Mozambique With Gonyeti Driver?

THERE was drama at the funeral of one of the six victims of the Mazowe Road accident, Charity Chikuku, in Glen View 4 on Tuesday.

Her in-laws accused her of infidelity.

Chikuku, who was married to Earnest Takawira, was buried at her parents’ village in Mutoko.

Chikuku died together with her married friend Ruth Bandawe, who had accompanied her on their escapade to Mozambique.

Four pedestrians also died when the driver of the haulage truck failed to negotiate a curve along the Harare-Mukumbura Road last Friday.

A source told H-Metro that Chikuku left home saying she was going to visit relatives in Mazowe, only for her to embark on a tour of Mozambique, with her haulage truck driver lover.

“Charity had been sleeping with the cross-border truck driver, who was injured in the accident,” said the source.

“Voices were raised as harsh words were exchanged between the two families as they argued about where Charity should be buried.

“Hama dzemurume dzaramba kuti avigwe pakavigwa mwana wake kumusha kwemurume vachiti ipfambi ngaavigwe kuMbudzi.

“Charity’s parents refused and took the body to Mutoko.

“Her parents were shamed and mocked throughout the funeral wake at her husband’s place in Glen View 4.”

Chikuku is reported to have asked Bandawe to accompany the lovers to Mozambique.

Bandawe was married to Mutizwa Takawira (no relation to Earnest).

Mutizwa told H-Metro that Bandawe’s handbag was found in another haulage truck.

“My wife left home saying she was going to Mozambique to buy goods for resale,” said Mutizwa.

“What shocked us was that her handbag was found in another haulage truck, among three trucks, belonging to the same company which were following each other.

“How her handbag came to be in another haulage truck, which was not involved in the accident, remains a mystery.

“Kwasahwira wangu uko kwakazoita noise zvekuti mutumbi wemudzimai wake wakazonovigwa kumusha kwemukadzi.

“Isu we laid Ruth to rest at Granville Cemetery on Tuesday,” he said.

Obasanjo Condemns Mnangagwa’s Presidency

Electoral Reforms : President Chamisa Accuses Mnangagwa Of Insincerity

Mnangagwa Steals Civil Servants Cash

2023 Polls: President Chamisa Puts Mnangagwa In Tight Corner

White Farmer In Trouble For Defrauding Union Of Workers’ Subscription

A White Beatrice farmer Rob Kind has been taken to court by a labour union,Progressive Agriculture and Allied Workers Union of Zimbabwe(PAAWUZ) for allegedly failing to pay union dues.

The case is being heard at the Beatrice Magistrate Court and during the trial yesterday before Magistrate Babra Maketo ,PAAWUZ ,which is the complainant represented by its general secretary Phillip Mafundu took the Beatrice farmer to task over his failure to deduct and remit union subscriptions of his workers .

It is the state case that in August 2019 ,Mafundu representing PAAWUZ visited the accused’s farm soliciting for union membership where he met some workers who then joined the union.

“Sometime in the month of August 2019 and at Nyarugondo Farm,Beatrice ,the complainant visited the farms in a bid to liase with the accused person’s employees so that they could join his PAAWUZ union and be legally represented by the union.

“The employees’ farm workers joined the complainant’s union and the complainant then informed the accused person and gave him stop order forms signed by the employees so that they could be legally represented by the union and that they were to collect USD$3.00 from each member as joining fee for the month of September 2019,”reads part of the state outline.

The union say the failure by the farmer to deduct and remit the dues since 2019 has costed them over US$4 000 crippling its work as a labour union.

“Due to reasons known to himself ,the accused failed to collect the subscriptions of the US$3.00 from each member per month from September 2019 to September 2022.

“For the court’s knowledge ,as a result of this predujice ,the union has been struggling to fulfill its mandate of representing farm workers,”PAAWUZ general secretary Mafundu told the court.

The farmer represented by a lawyer one Chitowamambo from Atukwa Attorneys legal firm was at pains to try to distance himself from the allegations saying he did not receive the stop orders in person.

However, the Prosecutor Munyaradzi Karimazondo asked him to confirm if he had learnt of the visit of the union to which he affirmatively responded.

The gallery was left puzzled with how the Beatrice farmer was trying to evade from being liable to the offense to as far as claiming that he was not responsible for recruiting of workers but at the same time confirming that he does the day-to-day running of the farm.

The magistrate Babra Mateko after hearing the submissions from both the complainant and the defense counsel handed 23 November as the judgement day.

Drama As Married Woman Dies In Accident

By A Correspondent- There was drama at the funeral of one of the six victims of the Mazowe Road accident, Charity Chikuku, in Glen View 4 on Tuesday.

H Metro

Rising Filmmaker Scoops Top Gong In Texas

RISING filmmaker and Millennial Academy School student Tinayeishe Wakatama is on cloud nine after scooping the Judges Champion Award worth US$5 000 at the recently held ConnectHER Film Festival at St Andrew’s Dell Fine Arts Centre Austin, Texas in America.

The festival is an international youth competition that showcases short films produced by young filmmakers around the world based on issues that impact on women and girls.

The young filmmaker and actor received the award in absentia because she is sitting for her A-Level final examinations.

Her exploits in acting and filmmaking demonstrated in the film And That’s On Period, which promotes gender equality, specifically the sanitary health of impoverished women, impressed the judges at the festival.

School head Edmond Mudzimu said Wakatama had done well to raise the school’s flag high in a foreign land, adding that the student was their ambassador as the accolades that she keeps getting mean a lot to the Harare-based school.

“Wakatama has always been a force to reckon with at the school as she is constantly participating in anything that has to do with arts and showcasing her talent in unravelled issues that affect people in the community,” he noted, adding that this was not her first international award.

“She has always been a passionate individual regarding civic matters and developmental issues, that is why she chose to work on that topic about gender and sanitary health in a bid to raise awareness for feminine needs.”

Mudzimu added: “We supported her when she started making the film And That’s On Period because we have always known her to be a vibrant and energetic student, especially in literature. I took it upon myself to mentor her on language skills to use when acting and writing films, and most of her exposure comes from engaging in the interact club, public speaking and debate clubs at the school.”

Wakatama’s role in the film helped to foster a sense of unity among the pupils as she worked with them playing various characters depicting issues around sanitary products and gender roles.

“In the film, Wakatama was joined by other students as the cast. This developed collaborative skills and teamwork with students coming together working on the project which was quite inspiring,” he said.

Mudzimu described Wakatama as an important asset to the school.

“Wakatama has done a lot of work for the school, from hosting functions such as prize and speech-giving day as the master of ceremony and has also written some literature pieces that have been recognised internationally,” he added.

“It’s Just A Photo Shoot Opportunity For ED”

By Nomusa Garikai- Yes, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, is in Egypt for UN COP27 Climate Summit.

He will, no doubt, be accompanied by the usual high-powered delegation of hangers-on. He will complain of how sanctions are stopping Zimbabwe from addressing the Climate change challenges and call for the sanctions to be lifted.

He will also call on the developed nations to honour their Climate Fund commitments; hoping against hope that Zimbabwe will get something regardless of the country’s reputation as one of the most corrupt and wasteful nations.

But most important of all, COP27 is a photo opportunity, Mnangagwa would hurt to miss!

To UN official COP27 stands for “27th Conference of the Parties”, to many people it is just a talking shop and to many third world leaders it is another opportunity to pile on the pressure on the developed nations for handouts.

UK PM Rishi Sunak says UK remains committed to £11.6 billion climate fund to help developing countries to cope with the ill effects of climate change and to transition from present position of emitting green-house gases to net zero emission.

Third world countries like Zimbabwe’s failure to stamp out corruption has given some of the developed countries the excuse drag their feet on their commitments to the climate fund.

They know whatever countries like Zimbabwe get, they will waste most of it. Zimbabwe received the least covid-19 aid for the same reason – corruption.

Former Health Minister Obadiah Moyo was sacked when details came out that he was behind the looting of US$60 million, in donated covid 19 funds. The case has been kicked into touch, which is the norm given Zanu PF catch and release policy!

The Earth’s temperature has increased exponentially to march the rise of green-house gases released into the atmosphere. warming continues to rise.

The average global temperature has risen by 1.15 degrees Centigrade in the last 300 years, marking start of the industrial revolution and the increased consumption of fossil fuel to power the machines.

The increase in the Earth’s average temperature, only 1.15 degrees Centigrade, has cause very significant climate changes.

The temperature rise has resulted in glaciers melting resulting in significant sea level rise and flood many coastal land and cities.

The temperature variation has disrupted the weather pattern increasing the frequency and extend of extreme weather conditions such as heat waves, floods, drought, etc.

“We are in the fight of our lives and we are losing … And our planet is fast approaching tipping points that will make climate chaos irreversible,” UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres warned in his COP 27 opening remarks.

“We are on a highway to climate hell with our foot on the accelerator.”

Like it or not we, in the developing countries have contributed the least to global warming and yet we are the ones paying most dearly for it.

Whenever those in the developed nations catch flu, we in the developing world are coughing blood or worse! It is therefore in our interest to play a more positive role in fighting global warming by making sure every dollar we receive from the Climate Fund is used wisely and accounted for!

For Zimbabwe to play a meaningful role in fighting Climate Change, we must first implement the democratic reforms and end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance.

Because as long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent and murderous thugs, in power because they rig elections, nothing of substance will change!

Psychiatric Inmate Murders Colleague At Chikurubi Prison

A psychiatric inmate at Chikurubi Maximum Prison allegedly murdered a colleague by striking him with a hoe on the head and face several times following a misunderstanding in 2019, court heard on Wednesday.

Rapheus Mandiko (31) appeared for trial commencement before High Court Judge Justice Munamato Mutevedzi.

Mandiko pleaded not guilty, arguing that he does not remember committing the crime.

The High Court reserved judgement.

Mandiko argued that he is a mental health patient, and was not in a right state of mind on the day he committed the crime.

According to the State, Mandiko was detained in Chikurubi Maximum Prison Psychiatric Unit.

It is the State’s case that on the fateful night of September 21, 2019, the prisoner smuggled a hoe into his cell from the storeroom during the day and wrapped it up in a blanket.

The court heard that during the night, Mandiko took the hoe and approached Tapiwa Nduna’s cell and attacked him, threatening other inmates who tried to intervene.

Court heard the now-deceased became unconscious after the savage attack.

Mandiko then allegedly took a rope and tied the late’s feet and shouted ‘Ndamupedzera (I have finished with him).
He is alleged to have told all inmates to be quiet and spent the night walking up and down the corridor carrying the hoe.

Postmortem showed that Nduna suffered brain injury and severe head trauma.

ZimSec Fraudster Denied Bail

By A Correspondent- A 26 year old Masvingo man masquerading as a Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) official was this week denied bail when he appeared before Masvingo Magistrate Conceptor Ngwerune for allegedly defrauding desperate ZIMSEC certificate seekers and leaking 2022 Ordinary and Advanced level examinations.

Kudakwashe Betserai is accused of fraud and contravening section 35(a) and (b) of the ZIMSEC Chapter 25:18 for unlawfully gaining access or revealing contents of any examination material.

It is the state case as presented by prosecutor Tichaona Chakavarika that the accused defrauded different desperate and unsuspecting ZIMSEC duplicate Ordinary and Advanced Level Certificate seekers.

It is alleged that sometime in February 2020, Betserai approached Econet Wireless Zimbabwe and registered a simcard in the name ZIMSEC Mutare which he used to activate Ecocash and WhatsApp accounts and advertised that he had the capacity to replace lost certificates at a replacement fee of US$ 150.

The matter came to light after victims of the scam realized that Betserai became evasive after receiving the money and stormed ZIMSEC Security and Loss Control manager James Nyabonde’s office in Harare demanding for certificates or a refund to the surprise of the complainant.

The accused is also alleged to have fraudulently obtained an Econet Simcard and activated Ecocash and WhatsApp accounts which he used to distribute ZIMSEC 2022 Ordinary level Mathematics Paper 2, English Paper 1 and Science Paper 2.

The sources from which he got the papers from are yet to be established.

The State said the accused reportedly defrauded more than 50 people using the method and is highly likely to interfere with state witnesses if granted bail.

Betserai is said to have received varying amounts from victims into his Ecocash, Mukuru.com and Innbucks accounts.

A team from Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Commercial Crimes Division in Masvingo recovered an iPhone 6 and Vodafone handset which contains an Econet Simcard used to receive some Ecocash payments and also ZIMSEC O Level papers with indications that it had been forwarded to several beneficiaries.

Betserai was remanded in custody to November 15, 2022. TellZimNews

I Did Not Hire Kenyan Hookers, Says Mliswa

Independent Norton MP Temba Mliswa has refuted reports that he was robbed of US$25 000 by hookers at Monomotapa Hotel whilst emphasising his insatiable desire is for single Zimbabwean mothers.

Prior to Mliswa’s comments, reports went viral on social media alleging that the lawmaker was found lying naked in a hotel room following a late night with two alleged Kenyan women.

According to the reports, Mliswa had invited the alleged ladies of the night to his room for some after party activities, which resulted in him losing money that was stashed in his briefcase.

Contrary to the article, Mliswa, in a video, said the reports were untrue and that he preferred Zimbabwean single mothers.

“Why would I want Kenyan women when there are beautiful Zimbabwean women, especially in my modus operandi which you all know and I have been open (M2s M3s M4s) mothers of two three or four and I like them because I like to be with their kids and I love their kids and I can not separate the two by the way,” Mliswa said.

“I was not at the Monomotapa Hotel. I have not been to the Monomotapa Hotel in a very long time. I have never been booked at the Monomotapa Hotel. At the same time I did not have twenty five thousand,” he added.

In a video that accompanied the article on social media, Mliswa was dancing to an Amapiano song whilst balancing a glass of beer on top of his head.

“So to you who are giving me the prominence that I never thought I had, thanks so much for making me big. I think there have been too many hits and it makes me the bigger person that I thought I was.

“And at the end of the day, even when I dance to Amapiano with a glass on my head it is because I have balance not because I was drunk,” said the Independent MP.

Meta Sacks Over 11k

By A Correspondent-Facebook’s parent company, Meta, has sacked over 11 000 employees and is set to extend the hiring freeze.

Meta had overextended, The Guardian reported citing Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

Like many of its competitors, Meta believed the rise in online activity during the coronavirus pandemic was a permanent shift which could continue even yonder the lockdowns.

As Meta’s revenue surged during the lockdowns, the company invested accordingly.

However, Meta’s revenues contracted, leaving the company, with almost 90 000 employees, financially exposed.

Zuckerberg also said wider “macroeconomic downturn” hammered all tech stocks equally, as profit today started to look tastier than growth tomorrow in the eyes of investors facing the end of the western world’s zero interest rate policy.

He also said there has been “Increased competition,” which hurt further, as did “ads signal loss.

Although Zuckerberg did not name Facebook’s rivals, it is believed he was referring to competition from TikTok, a trendy app stealing users and dominating the zeitgeist and a change of policy at Apple.

In 2021, Apple limited the amount of data, or “signals”, Facebook could gather about the behaviour of iPhone users, which made it harder for small businesses to use Facebook adverts to profitably acquire new customers.

In 2021 alone, Meta spent more than $12bn (£10bn) on research and design (R&D) at its Reality Labs metaverse wing and brought in barely a sixth of that in the few metaverse products it actually makes revenue from.

Those losses are growing: in 2019 Reality Labs lost $4.5bn with $500m in revenue, and in 2020 $6.6bn with $1.1bn in revenue. In an earnings call in February, Zuckerberg said he expected the losses to “increase meaningfully” over 2022.

Shareholders panicked. Brad Gerstner, the founder of Altimeter Capital, and a long-term shareholder in the company wrote an open letter to Zuckerberg in October, calling on him to radically scale back.

If Gerstner’s estimate is even remotely accurate, Meta could pay every single employee who is losing their job a $9m severance fee, and still spend less than it is expected to invest in building out the metaverse business.

Econet’s Machine-to-Machine technology to boost productivity, increase efficiencies

Players in the agricultural sector now have an opportunity to boost their output by being able to monitor their crops using sensors as well as keeping track of their tractors, combine harvesters and other farming equipment using Econet’s Machine-to-machine (M2M) technology.

The M2M platform allows machinery and other business assets, such as warehouse or office surveillance cameras, to be managed remotely, without human intervention, by installing a device with a global subscriber identity module on site.

Using this technology, farmers can install sensors in the fields to monitor soil, water, light, humidity, and temperature conditions remotely, using their mobile phones.

When the censors are combined with smart irrigation systems, crops are only irrigated when they need to be watered, delivering substantial benefits for both water use efficiency and increased yield.

Econet’s M2M technology can also be used to transform water billing systems with the advent of smart metering, which will allow municipalities in the country to digitise their processes.

For the water utility and transportation companies, smart meters provide multiple benefits, including leak detection, energy reduction, demand forecasting, enhanced awareness campaigns, promotion of efficient appliances and performance monitoring.

From the customer’s side, smart meters can provide information on when and where water is being used, comparisons of own water use against other customers, and quick leak detections.

The head of Econet’s Business Solutions (EBS) unit, Dr Jimmy Shindi, said the introduction of smart meters will be a huge milestone for the local municipalities that are struggling with revenue collections, thus affecting operations.

“This will not only ensure that there is accurate charging of water usage, but also expedite the switch to prepaid water solutions,” he said.

The M2M technology is already benefiting many businesses that use data collected by connected devices to monitor inventory supply levels, energy use and equipment temperatures, among other things, to guarantee service quality, boost operational efficiencies and save costs.

“We are eliminating human intervention for secure Machine-2-Machine communication through our technology that is helping businesses achieve greater efficiency, coupled with robust security,” added Dr Shindi.

By making a switch to M2M, said Dr Shindi, manufacturers can reduce costs, optimize and integrate processes, and get comprehensive insights into their manufacturing processes.

“M2M technologies uses advanced sensors and chips to monitor a machine’s overall state and performance. If vibrations, temperature, pressure changes, and other signs of mechanical failure are detected, the system automatically communicates this information to other connected devices, allowing workers to spot and resolve problems faster.

“These technologies also help to enhance machine performance and productivity. Since M2M connected devices can spot warning signs and relay problems almost instantly, companies can deliver all of the preventative maintenance tasks to preserve the machines’ longevity and ensure an efficient performance,” he said.

Globally, the M2M technology has seen a shift into the passive tracking space as well as container tracking.

Passive tracking, which refers to the tracking of stationery vendors selling on behalf of an organisation, gives companies guarantees that they have adequate representation of their stationery sales trucks in all the spaces they need to be and maximise on revenues.

On the other hand, container tracking becomes necessary when the cargo is not confined to a specific truck and can be shifted from rail to road. In this instance, it is crucial to ensure that the contents of a container remain safe despite the changes in the transport mode.

Econet is Zimbabwe’s leading telecommunications and technology company, providing mobile services to over 12 million connected customers. Since the launch of its services in 1998, the company has led in being the first to launch 3G and 4G services nationwide. More recently, it became the first operator to launch 5G services in the country.

Married Women Targeting SA Based Zimbo Cheat Humiliated

By A Correspondent- A South Africa based married man was humiliated after his love messages to a married woman were discovered by her husband.

The man, Tatenda Muchena, pleaded for forgiveness as he was being bashed by the woman’s husband.

He was made to reveal everything which transpired between them and was forced to roll in the mud while being beaten up.

Tatenda did not respond to questions sent to him about the incident.

However, in a video obtained by H-Metro, which has since gone viral Tatenda is seen being repeatedly beaten under his feet.

Tatenda is also seen being interrogated by the woman’s husband over his shenanigans.

“This person you are seeing here, dates married women,” says the husband in the video.

Did you only propose to her or you did something?”

Tatenda then confesses.

“Handichazviita futi zvekunyenga mukadzi wemunhu.

“I got her number as I wanted to buy some sheets,” he said.

The woman’s husband, who refused to be named, told H-Metro he discovered the chats between Tatenda and his wife and decided to trap him.

“This guy is from Marondera, and I discovered that he always goes after married women, so I trapped him on Monday.

“He is a married man and has a wedding band.

“He has a wife waakachata naye then woita system yekunyenga vakadzi vevanhu,” said the fuming husband.

The husband’s friend said:

“He stays with his wife here (in South Africa) and she is tired of his games.

“Akatozvibata and is pained over this issue, but haana zvokuita semunhu anoda imba.

“This guy used to come pamba achimanikidzira kudiwa kana murume asipo.”

Fresh Details Emerge On 9yr Old Pregnant Minor

By A Correspondent- New details have emerged in the case of a pregnant nine-year-old girl from Masekesa village in Tsholotsho under Chief Gampu amid indications that the family lived with a young male relative.

Chief Gampu has called for the interrogation of the young man emphasising that he was not accusing the man.

The traditional leader said the young man left a few months ago allegedly to seek employment in Dogwe village, one of the villages in the district.

The Chronicle quotes Chief Gampu as saying:

I am not at all saying the young man is responsible for what happened, neither am I saying the father did not but it is known that the family was living with a young relative who I believe is related to the girl’s mother and maybe the police may actually want to interview him as well, just like they did to the father.

The traditional leader said society was expected to protect young, innocent children instead of exposing them to such heinous acts.

He said he was going to spearhead awareness campaigns in his area of jurisdiction and encouraged other traditional leaders to also embark on such programmes so as to encourage and inform people about concerns related to child abuse while encouraging them to speak out against such vices

The young girl who was just eight years old when she fell pregnant, with suspicions that she was raped, is set to give birth through a cesarean delivery on November 17 at United Bulawayo Hospitals.

The incident led to the arrest of the girl’s biological father (29) who allegedly warned his daughter that “goblins will visit her at night and insert something in her private parts

Govt Slams Chamisa

Information deputy minister Kindness Paradza says government will not succumb to Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa’s demands for electoral reforms.

Kindness Paradza…

“If Chamisa wants electoral reforms, he has to work through Parliament. If the [Electoral Amendment] Bill goes to Parliament, it will go for public scrutiny through public hearings where, if he wants to make any submissions, he can do so through his Members of Parliament and supporters,” Paradza told NewsDay yesterday.

That is democracy in our view. But it does not have to be a demand because we do not succumb to demands. We are the ruling party and have been in power for 42 years and we do not succumb to demands from the opposition.”

Paradza was responding to Chamisa’s Twitter post that a 2023 pre-election pact is the only way to go for the country to avoid a disputed poll outcome.

Chamisa, who narrowly lost to President Emmerson Mnangagwa in the disputed 2018 elections, said various stakeholders should be consulted on the pre-election pact.

“There are no genuine reforms in the Zanu PF government proposed electoral reforms by the Cabinet. A pre-election pact on reforms by all parties, civil society and stakeholders is key. Any unilateral political decision will produce a disputed and discredited national leadership,” he tweeted.

Government last month announced that Cabinet had approved the principles of the Electoral Amendment Bill 2022.

Electoral stakeholders, including the opposition, however, said they were not consulted on the draft of the Electoral Amendment Bill 2022.

The Bill is silent on demands by the opposition and other independent election watchdogs.

In September, Chamisa launched the CCC’s pre-election pact on electoral reforms blueprint.

During the launch, Chamisa said Zimbabwe had over the years experienced a series of elections that failed credibility and integrity tests.

Yesterday, CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said the electoral reform agenda remained CCC’s priority.

“The CCC is currently seized with ensuring that any amendments to the Electoral Act are the product of wide consultation with all stakeholders, including civic society, citizens and political parties. The citizens have unequivocally placed their faith in the CCC,” Mahere said.

“Against all odds, we have demonstrated that we are a competent, credible alternative to Zanu PF. Even the Afrobarometer report states that if an election were called today, CCC would win. Zanu PF can never win a free and fair election in Zimbabwe. That is sealed and settled. This is why they are panicking and resorting to violence. We want elections, not war.”

Zimbabwe Electoral Comission (Zec) chief elections officer Utoile Silaigwana demanded questions in writing when asked what progress had been made in addressing CCC concerns over electoral malpractices.

“These are mere allegations which we do not know their basis. Send us questions in writing so that we respond,” Silaigwana said.

He had not responded to the questions by the time of going to print.

Some of the alleged electoral malpractices cited by CCC include violence against its members, Zec’s failure to release a credible voters roll, vote-buying and lack of access to the State media, among others.

Political analysts say this pointed to another disputed poll.

The analysts yesterday said odds were against the opposition as the country marches towards the 2023 elections.

Analyst Rashweat Mukundu said: “The CCC is walking a tightrope between a call for its supporters to come out in numbers to vote, while at the same time contending with the violence and the uneven political environment, hence the shift to extremes in messaging on political mobilisation strategies.”

Political analyst Vivid Gwede said. “The last round of the Afrobarometer showed Chamisa leading his opponent President Mnangagwa. But the opposition should be cautioned against overconfidence. A lot has happened since those survey results came out.”

CCC has ruled out boycotting the elections despite failure by government to implement electoral reforms. -Newsday

If ZEC Doesn’t Release Voters Roll in 7 Days?

ELECTORAL watchdog, Election Resource Centre (ERC) has given the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) a seven-day ultimatum to furnish it with an electronic copy of the voters roll to be used in the delimitation exercise.
If Zec fails to meet the demand, which it says it will respond to through its lawyers, it faces a possible lawsuit. In July after closure of inspection of the voter’s roll, ERC wrote to Zec requesting a copy of the electronic voters roll.

On October 20, 2022, Zec agreed, but said it can provide the voters roll in hard copy format at a cost of US$187 238.

In a letter addressed to Zec chief elections officer Utoile Silaigwana dated November 7, Tarisai Mutangi of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) on behalf of ERC, said since February 2022 they had been seeking to access the national voters roll to be used for the delimitation process.

“We are aware that this costing has its basis in Statutory Instrument 145 of 2022 (Electoral (Voter Registration) (Amendment) Regulations, 2022 (No1)), which imposes US$1 per page of the roll as the unit price,” Mutangi said.

“Our client is of the view, and we agree, that this cost is shockingly high and clearly is more than the ‘reasonable costs’ of providing the voters roll contrary to section 21 of the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13].”

He described the price as bordering on unconstitutionality and having a chilling effect on political rights provided for in section 67 of the Constitution, adding that it made those rights illusory as they were now dependent on material comfort.

“On the contrary, an electronic voters roll costs US$200,” Mutangi said.

He accused Zec of refusing with the voters’ roll under the guise that it was “enhancing the security of the electronic voters roll”.

“Our respectful view is that, once the voters roll is available in hard copy, so should be the electronic one as both are provided for in a unitary provision, namely section 21(4) of the Electoral Act.”

Mutangi said electoral processes should be transparent, hence the need for Zec to avail the voters roll.

“In the above circumstances, our client is deeply concerned about the escalating cost of political participation in the country. The provision of a hard copy voters roll in these circumstances is inconsistent with these principles, while an electronic copy would address the problem making elections more transparent.”

Woman Steals Tithes In SA Church

A 43-year-old Zimbabwean woman has been jailed for an effective three years for stealing R800 000 in tithes in the last four years.
Memory Mutsika was convicted by the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court for 128 counts of theft.

At the time of committing the offence, she was the treasurer of the Pretoria City Seventh Day Adventist church.

Her responsibilities included transferring tithe and offering deposited to the church account to the Northern Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson for Pretoria, Ms Lumka Mahanjana, said on Wednesday that during the period between 2012 to 2015, Mutsika transferred more than R800 000 of the money received from the tithe and offerings to her bank account. She said the woman converted the money for her personal use and that in court, she pleaded guilty to the charges and asked for a non-custodial sentence to pay the church back the money over five years.

“However, the State argued that Mutsika always indicated her willingness to pay back the money and has not paid back a single cent since March 2022, after she was convicted,” said Ms Mahanjana.

“The magistrate agreed with the State and said Mutsika showed no remorse, and that she only stopped stealing not because of her conscious, but because she was caught.

“The church placed her in a position of trust, but she betrayed that trust. He further said that he viewed Mutsika’s willingness to pay back the money, as a bargaining tool and as a ticket to keep her out of prison.” -state media

ZimSec Official Arrested

A 26 year-old Masvingo man masquerading as a Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) official was this week denied bail when he appeared before Masvingo Magistrate Conceptor Ngwerune for allegedly defrauding desperate ZIMSEC certificate seekers and leaking 2022 Ordinary and Advanced level examinations.

–TellZimNews
