Ramaphosa Escapes Citizen’s Arrest

State security agents prevented a citizen’s arrest of President Cyril Ramaphosa at a National Women’s Day celebrations in Durban on Tuesday.

Members of the civil rights organisation Real Democracy attempted to arrest Ramaphosa over what is referred to as the Farmgate scandal.

The group was stopped at the VVIP gate and, after being questioned by security staff, were prevented from entering the event.

A South African Police Service (SAPS) legal representative told the activists that there was no reason for attempting to arrest the president, since the Farmgate matter was still under investigation by various law enforcement agencies, including the Hawks.

One of the officers from the President’s Office, Roshni Singh, who attended the Real Democracy activists, accepted a “charge sheet” with seven counts against Ramaphosa.

The charges included the Phala Phala Farmgate, where Ramaphosa allegedly stashed a large amount of foreign currency in a couch and a mattress at his farm. The money was reportedly stolen during a burglary in 2020.

Speaking to the Daily News, Real Democracy spokesperson Srini Naidoo accused the police of violating Section 42 of the Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977 which allowed for the arrest of a suspect by a private person/s without a warrant. – IOL

Mwonzora Salutes Chamisa, Says CCC Has Chawunga

By- MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora has acknowledged that CCC leader Nelson Chamisa remains popular but said his MDC party would win the next year’s elections despite CCC’s popularity.

Speaking on Thursday during This Morning on Asakhe,  hosted by CITE on Twitter Space, Mwonzora said this would be so despite failing to win a single parliamentary or council seat in the 26 March 2022 by-elections.

 He said:

For us, the by-elections are a bygone; we did not do well but that does not perturb us.

Mwonzora said he draws inspiration from the likes of Nelson Mandela, Abraham Lincoln in the United States, Robert Mugabe and President Emmerson Mnangagwa who at one point failed in their lives but still picked themselves up and continued with their missions. He said:

We are rebuilding our organisation and come 2023 we will be an extremely potent force and we are brewing a shocker for the nation. There is absolutely no question about it.

I want to quote Garry Kasparov, the Russian, Soviet Union champion, who says that you should not glory in your past victory.

You think that what was there on 26 March 2022 is the same as on 11 September 2022, things have changed.

Society has changed, things are moving and so on. So we should not remain fossilised in the past. We have failed before we have risen in the MDC.

He said the MDC had a history of falling and rising in elections since contesting for the first time in 2000. He said:

In 2000 it scored very well, almost getting a majority in Parliament. In 2005 it went down, lost its parliamentary advantage, and I think lost about 11 seats.

Then in 2008, the MDC went up, winning the presidency, winning Parliament, and all the Councils. In 2013 we went down.

In 2018 when we were together we did very well and our presidential candidate, Nelson Chamisa did very well in the presidential election.

Of course, he thinks that it is only his. His achievement is not on the team, but that is his opinion but did objectively well in 2018.

In the by-election, we did badly. We are now on the upward swing. This is the trend of the MDC.

Those historians out there who care to study the MDC must find that there is a trend.

So we are happy that we are on our way up and we will provide a shot come 2023.

Mai Titi Cries For Tinashe

By-Socialite and comedienne, Felistas “Mai TT” Murata, has accused her estranged lover Tinashe Maphosa’s closest relatives of collapsing her marriage.

She said she regrets seeking counselling and sharing family secrets with Tinashe’s niece, Tatenda Chingana.

The mother of two, who recently tied the knot with her US-based husband at a lavish ceremony in Harare, claimed Tatenda was allegedly working against the union.
Tatenda confirmed the fallout with Mai TT.
Prior to this interview, Mai TT shared a post on social media, which insinuated she would not quit her marriage.
“Imagine kubudisa 100k pamuchato, kuhire Kelly Khumalo. Kutengerwa muchato neZBC.
“Kupindana nezvikwereti nekubroka. Kurovana, kutukana, kurwiswa, kurwara kuonda, kusungisana.
“Tozorambana after 3 months.
“Hondo yacho yinenge yakasika kupera.
“The Maphosa’s Season 1,” reads part of the post.
Following the post, Mai TT’s fans have also been anxious to understand the correct status of her marriage.
She had previously told H-Metro she would clear the air tomorrow.
However, she finally disclosed the matter saying Tatenda was desperate to see the end of their marriage.
“Well, I have been going through a lot in my marriage, including the tension between me and Tinashe.
“My husband is working hard to ensure we iron those issues affecting our marriage but there is one person behind all these problems.
“This person is Tinashe’s niece called Tatenda, who has been leaking family issues to bloggers,” she said.
Mai TT said her husband has also found out that Tatenda sought to destroy their marriage.
“There are some issues that we used to share with Tatenda since we were taking her as a close relative.
“I finally realised that she was influencing the other relatives of Tinashe to make sure my husband quits this marriage.
“It’s unfortunate that Tatenda won’t win it because right now we are fixing things in our marriage,” she said.
The versatile entertainer said she will go into detail later this week.
“Of course, I will go into detail about my family issues but for now you simply need to hear from Tatenda, who has caused all these issues.
“You can call her and hear her side of the story but I was disappointed by her conduct after this betrayal,” she said.
Contacted for comment, Tatenda confirmed she was not seeing eye-to-eye with Mai TT.
She, however, blamed Mai TT for taking the matter to the press.
“Yes, we have not been talking to each other because of certain family issues.
“It’s sad that she has taken the matter to the media when it could have been resolved at family level.
“She might blame me for her problems but I am not entirely responsible,” she said.
Added Tatenda: “Like I said before, I would had preferred that the matter be dealt at family level and not the press.
“It’s just unfortunate for us to be tainting each other in the press like this.”
After Tatenda’s response, Mai TT said she was still married to Tinashe.
“We are still legally married and still husband and wife.
“We can’t just wake up and say it’s over considering what we have gone through together.” H Metro

President Chamisa To Address Thank You Rally In Masvingo

Popular President Nelson Chamisa holds by election victory celebration rally in Masvingo Province on 14th August 2022.

As Masvingo police gave permission to Masvingo CCC to hold celebration rally

11 August 2022

Wezhira Munya

It’s Citizens Coalition for Change celebration time in Masvingo urban and province at large after resoundingly defeated Zanu PF, MDC T (Alliance) and other small parties during past by elections.

Chief Change Champion President Chamisa will give a keynote speech at Mucheke Stadium this coming Sunday , 14th August 2022.

The program starts at 10am.

Citizens Coalition for Change Masvingo Provincial Administrator Mr Mandie Matutu confirmed that police gave permission to hold victory celebration rally.

In addition, Masvingo urban champion Mr Peace Mapope who is among the organisers of this rally encouraged Citizens Coalition for Change Champions, supporters and Masvingo residents to saturate Mucheke Stadium.

Masvingo urban is Citizens Coalition for Change stronghold as it has Hon Jacob Nyokanhete as it’s only member of Parliament in Masvingo province out of 26. Also, it has four CCC councillors who defeated Zanu PF and MDC Alliance on 26th March 2022 by elections. The following CCC councillors won by elections in Masvingo urban:

Ward 3 CCC councillor Rocky Kamuzonda , ward 4 CCC councillor Alex Tabe, ward 5 Councillor Daniel Mberikunshe and ward 7 Richard Musekiwa.

On Sunday, President Chamisa will take an opportunity to thank Masvingo CCC supporters and champions for resoundingly voting and supporting CCC, said Champion Jefferson Chitando.

In 2018, majority of Masvingo urban voters voted for President Chamisa. President Chamisa had more votes in Masvingo urban than Zanu PF president Mnangagwa. In addition, in Masvingo urban President Chamisa’s councillors won 7 council seats out of 10.

Furthermore, President Chamisa’s by election campaign rally that was held in Rujeko ground few days before 26th March 2022, had more 40 000 people in attendance.

It is against this background that Mucheke Stadium will have an overflow on Sunday as “yellow team” celebrates election victory.

The CCC “structureless” and newly formed party has been winning by election seats including in rural areas such as in Chipinge.

President Chamisa, has introducing new and fresh political strategy in Zimbabwe politics. Currently, CCC champions have been deployed in rural and urban areas under Mungwazo concept. As a result of this strategy, CCC is winning elections.

Contrary, MDC T (Alliance) under Mwonzora is dying quickly. Under Mwonzora MDC T dismally performed during first by elections by getting zero votes and then decided not to participate in any by election. The once mighty MDC T is failing to pull crowds at its rallies and many members have left the party including Mash West provincial chairperson Konjana. They cited Mwonzora’s incompetence as one of the reasons of leaving MDC T.

More troubles for MDC T led by Mwonzora as it is failing to hold congress according to their constitution. There are serious fights in MDC T currently, as Teams belonging to Komichi, Mudzuri, Mwonzora and other factions are fighting each other.

On the other hand, Zanu PF has serious internal fights as Chiwenga and Mnangagwa factions are fighting each other. It’s dog eat dog in Zanu PF. Recently, there was blood on the floor when Masvingo Zanu PF factions belonging to Masvingo Resident Minister Chadzamira and Masvingo provincial chair Mavhenyengwa youths members fought during provincial elections. The youth provincial elections were then cancelled.

Traditionally, Zanu PF under Mugabe used to win all by elections. However, under Mnangagwa Zanu PF has lost many by elections.

There will be lots of entertainment in Mucheke Stadium during CCC victory celebrations.

Chamisa Invades Masvingo

By-The opposition CCC leader Nelson Chamisa is Sunday addressing party supporters at Mucheke Stadium in Masvingo.

The CCC Masvingo rally will celebrate the party’s victory in the March 26 2022, by-elections.

Despite being launched early this mostly by former MDC Alliance members, CCC won all four Masvingo Urban by-elections. It, however lost to ZANU PF in Chiredzi, Chivi and Mwenezi.

Chamisa confirmed that he will address the rally in an interview with The Mirror on Thursday morning. He said:

I will be in Masvingo on Sunday for Citizen thank you rallies. As you know, we were in Gwanda and other places where we won.

In Masvingo, our four councillors won on March 26 by-election. So we will be thanking the people of Masvingo for voting for our councillors.

The four councillors are Rocky Kamuzonda (Ward 3), Aleck Tabe (Ward 4), Daniel Mberikunashe (Ward 5) and Richard Musekiwa (Ward 7).

The seats fell vacant after the MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora recalled all MDC Alliance councillors believed to have been aligned to Chamisa who was leading the party before he was deposed by the courts.

Mwonzora Promises Miracles In 2023

By- MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora said his party will shock the nation in the next year’s general elections.

Teachers For ED, A Ploy To Frustrate Fight For Better Wages, Unions Speak

Government has approved a new teachers’ union with the moniker “Teachers for ED (Economic Development)”, NewsDay has learnt.

A circular dated June 22, 2022 written by the secretary of Primary and Secondary Education Tumisang Thabela to all provincial education directors, states: “It is noted that Teachers for Economic Development has completed setting up structures in the 10 provinces of the country and requested authority to launch the provincial chapters and the national chapter.

“In view of the above, authority is hereby granted to conduct the provincial and national launches of the Teachers for Economic Development.  Kindly liaise with provincial education directors in the respective provinces on the suitable dates and venues.”

But other teachers’ unions, which have been demanding that government should pay them in United States dollars, said this was a ploy to frustrate their fight for a living wage.

Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe national secretary-general Robson Nikita Chere said they were concerned that politicians are working in cahoots with ministry officials to introduce a political creature disguised as Teachers for Economic Development.

“We urge the teachers to disregard, disapprove and dismiss the abuse of the teaching profession through commissariat schemes played by the regime under the guise of such unions. Like any other worker or profession, teachers should be left free and distant from partisan politics except if it is voluntary.

“The Constitution of Zimbabwe under sections 64 and 65 clearly makes a demand for good administrative conduct, and that means administrative conduct that is free from political intrusion,” Chere said.

He said President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime had been abusing schoolchildren by force-marching them to rallies and using school buses to ferry Zanu PF supporters to such events.

“To come in dark garments of Teachers for ED and pretending to have solutions to our suffering is only aimed at harvesting votes from the education sector,” he added.

Educators’ Union of Zimbabwe secretary-general Tapedza Zhou said: “If teachers publicly align themselves to a certain political party, it will not only be prejudicial to their service, but is a serious act of misconduct.

We condemn all moves that are divisive and discriminatory to teachers.

“Government officials and party officials have an obligation to assist in ensuring that all teachers remain non-partisan as it is a precondition for the smooth delivery of service to the State.”

Progressive Teachers Union president Takavafira Zhou described the new group as “a masquerade with the intention to divert teachers from crucial labour issues”.

“Worse still this masquerade has solicited Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s assistance in order to launch its provincial and national structures and was granted permission on 25 July 2022. Teachers must smell a rat,” Zhou said.

Primary and Secondary Education ministry spokesperson Taungana Ndoro said the second republic was very democratic and had no ulterior motives in authorising the formation of the Teachers for Economic Development union.

“  As an inclusive government that leaves no one behind, we have no objection to the formation of the new teachers’ union as its formation will greatly assist in the sustainability of teachers’ upper middle-income class status.

“I can tell you for certain that with such kind of teachers’ unions that are focused on economic development, issues of teachers’ industrial action will soon be a thing of the past as these teachers utilise their skills for the economic emancipation and welfare of the nation,” Ndoro said.

Citizen Narrates Horrendous Robbery Case That Left Him Traumatized

Had a robbery at home between 20:29 and 21:20. We drove in different cars home from hospital. Kids suggested that dad and mom must race.

So we drove behind each other and side by side most of the time. And I overtook and drove in front and following distance was 50m I opened the gate and drove straight into the garage and so did my family. And as i tried to close the gate I saw a man come in, gun pointed, asked us to lie down. Grandad was shocked I suspect he didn’t. Kids too. Lelo was asking who are you! Then they took house keys.

Asked me To take kids behind the house. I pulled my phone out while walking to notify neighbours. They saw me and took my phone. Then tied is with cables. They could not open our door and he’d to forcibly break the cables while tying my hands.

Sustained injury My helper was inside the house and we had said there is no one. She smsed a friend who called police and security companies most who said they don’t patrol out area. He parked across the street, thinking robbers were on foot. He saw the gate open and the guys sped off in a white Mercedes’ benz.

They seemed to have trailed us but we are not sure. Took three laptops, Samsung tv, some house keys, gate remotes, two hard drives, around R2000, my wife’s ring, iPad, iMac, TV, They forced me to give them the iPhone password and now it appears untraceable. They asked iCloud passwords but I didn’t have.

I tried deleting the phone and can’t do it. And they seem aware of Twitter because they were asking who did I tweet Hard drives are 1 terabyte and two terabytes. iPhone pro 11 is grey and has no FaceID. Of course they’d reset password but FaceID won’t work.

Serial# for iMac C02SH9DVGF1 The main loss was my work of course and we hope someone might come across these things for sale. Pls retweet maybe I’d be lucky. If anyone comes across suspicious items please app me at 0734385545.

ED Ready To Welcome Own Citizens In S.A Back Home

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Frederick Shava, said the government led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa is ready to welcome back its citizens who have lived in South Africa under the Zimbabwe Exemption Permits (ZEP).

“The Zimbabwe Exemption Permit will expire at the end of this year. Its expiry is naturally causing much anxiety to the holders of this permit,” Shava said in his opening remarks while co-chairing the mid-term review of the Bi-National Commission (BNC) with International Relations and Cooperation Minister Naledi Pandor.

“Our two governments must work closely in the implementation of this decision. We are ready to receive our nationals back home,” he said.

Among several senior officials from the two nations, the high-level meeting was also attended by Ambassador of South Africa to Zimbabwe, Thizwilondi Rejoice Mabudafhasi, and Ambassador of Zimbabwe to South Africa, David Hamadziripi.

Numerous Zimbabweans living in South Africa are in limbo, after the South African government announced that it would not be extending the Zimbabwe Exemption Permits (ZEP), which ended on December 31, 2021.

The almost 200 000 permit-holders were given a 12-months grace period to regularise their stay with another category of permit.

Pandor told Shava that Pretoria is grateful for the supportive role played by Zimbabwe in arresting the scourge of illegal migration.

“Dear Minister (Shava), I’m sure you are aware that effective management of immigration has been an ongoing challenge for our government.

“We’ve recently established a border management agency and we hope it will vastly reduce illegal migration and improve efficiency. I must thank you and your government for the support you have given us in this endeavour,” she said.

Pandor said the review meeting gives the two neighbouring countries an opportunity to “reboot and reset our programmes, to better respond to the challenges that have emanated” from the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I am pleased to recall that despite the constraints of the pandemic, total trade between South Africa increased from a quantum of R38billion in 2020 to R47.5bn in 2021. I trust that our delegations will align our planning to enhance this positive development and I note in the figures that the surplus lies with South Africa, and we would like to see greater benefit to Zimbabwe’s economic sectors as well.

“Of course, our cooperation and partnership is not only limited to bilateral relations. We also share common values on regional, continental and global governance issues of mutual interest,” she said.

Pandor also expressed gratitude to Zimbabwe for the support given to South Africa when it served on the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation.

Shava, a seasoned diplomat, was appointed by Mnangagwa to head the Ministry of Foreign Affairs last year, following the death of the country’s Foreign Affairs Minister Sibusiso Moyo.

Chamisa Hails Kenya On Diaspora Vote

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has applauded Kenya for allowing the diaspora vote and said Zimbabweans living outside the country should be allowed to vote in the 2023 polls.

Kenyans outside that country cast their votes on Tuesday in elections to choose a successor to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Chamisa said the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) should take a leaf from Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and allow the diaspora vote.

“Giving citizens voice. The right to vote is so fundamental. Zimbabweans in the diaspora must be allowed to vote @ZECzim. It’s doable. Well done Kenya and @IEBCKenya for enabling the diaspora vote,” Chamisa posted on Twitter.

Government has, however, shot down calls for a diaspora vote.

Under the current legislative framework, Zimbabweans living abroad cannot vote.

The Electoral Act only guarantees government employees such as diplomats the right to vote from outside the country under the postal voting model.

Observers told NewsDay that Kenyan elections have shown that people in the diaspora can vote smoothly if there is will on the part of government and political leaders.

“Government and the ruling Zanu-PF are reluctant to push for a diaspora vote because they are afraid because they think that people who left the country due to economic hardships are anti-government. Speaker of (the National Assembly) Jacob Mudenda called for the diaspora vote and he was immediately censured by his party,” commentator Pardon Taodzera said.

Mudenda in May attracted brickbats from colleagues in Zanu-PF after he called for the amendment of the Constitution to allow Zimbabweans in the diaspora to vote in the 2023 elections.

The statement ruffled feathers in Zanu-PF, with party spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa saying the Speaker was offside.

In 2018, the Constitutional Court barred millions of Zimbabweans abroad from voting in that year’s July 31 general elections.

There are no exact statistics on the number of Zimbabweans outside the country.

The Zimbabwe National Statistical Agency did not include Zimbabweans in the diaspora in its 2022 preliminary census results.

Is Susan Mutami Suggesting Mai Titi Was Paid To Fake Break-Up With Tinashe Maphosa?

By A Correspondent| Australia based socialite Susan Mutami has accused Zanu PF and President Emmerson Mnangagwa of paying using social media influencers to create drama as a way of diverting people’s attention from her sexual abuse allegations against the ruling party leader.

According to Mutami, social media influencers have been creating false drama as a way of diverting the nation’s attention from Mnangagwa’s issue.

Though Mutami did not mention names but Mai Titi’s alleged break up with her United States based husband Tinashe Maphosa created so much drama, keeping people glued to social media as the two traded accusations and counter accusations against each other.

After more than a week of fighting, Mai Titi woke up to announce that she had not broke up with Maphosa in a narrative that best suits Mutami’s alleged narrative.

“Good morning citizens, I know I’m on a twitter break bt I just wanted u to know that @ZANUPF_Official is buying social media influencers to create drama so people forget that @edmnangagwa sexually abused me when I was a minor. I also wanted u to know that there are two young women who reached out to me who were sexually abused by @edmnangagwa, former MSU students who ended up dropping out of Uni as a result of their ordeal and they are ready to share their story with all of u. They have sought refuge in the diaspora and are hopeful the local authorities of that country and @INTERPOL_HQ will assist them,” said Mutami.

Zanu PF has perfected the art of diverting people’s attention from the daily hardships as time and again, there is drama that dominate conversations for more than a week, in the process keeping people away from pressing bread and butter issues.

Jabulani Sibanda Speaks On Gukurahundi

By A Correspondent- Calls by Zanu-PF Bulawayo provincial chairperson Jabulani Sibanda this week that government should return all properties that it grabbed from former Zipra combatants at the height of the Gukurahundi massacres in Matabeleland and Midlands provinces in the 1980s cannot not be overemphasised.

Honestly, it is quite amiss that those properties were not included in the 1987 Unity Accord between Robert Mugabe and Joshua Nkomo (both late), an agreement that supposedly was meant to cease hostilities between the two former 1970s liberation war allies Zanu and PF Zapu.

If the properties, which include the imposing Magnet House in Bulawayo, were actually part of the negotiations to stop civil strife in the southern part of the country, then is it curious that 35 years after the Unity Accord, those properties have not been returned to the rightful owners.

Sibanda rightly reminds us that: “When we were at the assembly points, we contributed money from our meagre salaries to buy those properties. Some of the properties have been returned, while others have not been returned due to paperwork challenges … please do not release those farms through newspapers, release them physically so that we have access to them.”

For years, government has been promising to return the properties, but little has happened, leading to many rightly questioning the sincerity of the 1987 Unity Accord because a prompt release of those properties way back in 1987 would have, indeed, signified the sincerity of the unity agreement.

Past experience has thought us that it will not be long before Sibanda is pelted for discussing these issues in public as what happened to Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda when he pointed out that the appointment of a second Vice-President from the other party in the Unity Accord was long overdue. Colleagues in his Zanu-PF party were furious and roasted Mudenda for his otherwise noble and wise counsel.

As we speak, there is no second Vice-President after Kembo Mohadi resigned as VP last year following a messy sex scandal.

It is these seemingly small matters that speak to the genuineness of the 1987 Unity Accord. As long as these grey areas keep sticking out like sore thumbs, it would be difficult for any sane Zimbabwean to believe that the people of Zimbabwe were truly united by the 1987 unity agreement.

One really wonders why it has taken government all this while to return those properties when it is fully aware that they were illegally grabbed from Zipra?

If the Zanu-PF government is serious about bringing closure to the Gukurahundi madness, why is it still shilly-shallying over the Zipra properties?

It is about time the Zanu-PF government acted on those properties if it hopes to convince anyone that it genuinely entered the 1987 Unity Accord. Besides, the move would be a plus for a government that has so far dismally failed on the property rights front.

War Veteran Margaret Dongo Speaks Of Sexual Abuse During The War

War veteran Margaret Dongo says the story of sexual abuse of women ex-combatants by their commanders during the armed struggle in the military camps is yet to be told fully.

Dongo lifted the lid on the sexual abuses during an interview with Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) chairman Trevor Ncube on his weekly programme, In Conversation with Trevor whose excerpts are set to be published in our sister paper, The Standard.

“The truth has never been told about the history of the struggle, vis-à-vis women. I hope that one day, we will have some people who will be bold enough to stand up and talk about it,” she said.

“It’s a pity that very little is going to come from women themselves because they have been marginalised intentionally to make sure that they are not able to speak for themselves.

“Some people were abused by the bosses themselves. They (bosses) could have more than three or four girlfriends. When he (boss) comes from Maputo, he said: ‘Go and get me a girl from the camp.’

“We used to have female commanders at the camp that could blow the whistle calling women for a parade to look for a girl for the bosses. You were paraded not because they wanted all of us, but one. Those, who knew that they would be victims, would run away.”

Dongo said there were camps where pregnant women and those with babies were “dumped” after the abuse.

“Women lived under a terrible environment. They (women) ended up with babies not because they wanted to, they were raped. We used to have a camp called Osibhisa, where you were dumped when you got pregnant.

“If there were any attacks, you needed to have your baby, gun, and run away. Those women suffered and there was no special food for those children. They could get the feed here and there.”

In 2006, former Education minister Fay Chung published a book titled Reliving the Second Chimurenga that exposed some of the abuses by the guerilla war commanders.

In her book, Chung fingered late Zimbabwe African National Liberation Army commander Josiah Tongogara in the abuse of women at Pungwe III, a military camp on the banks of Pungwe River in Mozambique.

Mliswa Salutes Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume For Fighting Delish Nguwaya’s Pomona Deal

Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has saluted Harare Mayor Councilor Jacob Mafume saying his unwavering stance against the Pomona Waste to Energy deal deserves praise.

Posting on Twitter, Mliswa said the ruling Zanu PF party was conspicuous by its silence on such a damaging deal that has been roundly condemned by every right thinking stakeholder.

Below is Mliswa’s thread;

I would like to take this opportunity to take my hat off to @JMafume for his unwavering stance against the stink that was disguised as the Pomona waste to energy project.

Kudos to Mafume and Harare City Council for standing up to a blatantly corrupt deal that was going to cost the citizens of Harare millions of dollars. We are extremely proud of you.

The fight against corruption shouldn’t be left to the opposition or a few individuals, it is a fight that should involve each and every patriotic Zimbabwean regardless of race, colour or creed. The loudest noise should have been coming from within ZANU PF itself.

It is shocking to see the ruling party being quiet about such a damaging deal less than a year before the general elections. Those that seek to be elected next year should be fuming as these kinds of deals will surely lose them votes.

July Moyo doesn’t have to worry about what the electorate thinks because he knows that the people don’t like him anyway and he is a Minister through appointment. Unfortunately he is also damaging the image of the appointing authority.

By cancelling the overpriced Pomona Waste to Energy sleaze, Mayor Mafume did the right thing despite harassment and open bullying from July Moyo who was curiously doubling up as Nguwaya’s company lawyer by writing threatening demand letters.

Rushwaya Faces Jail

By-Harare regional magistrate Mrs Learnmore Mapiye is today expected to deliver a judgment in the matter in which Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) president, Henrietta Rushwaya, is being charged for offering a bribe to an airport official on the day she allegedly attempted to smuggle 6kg of gold out of the country in October 2020.

Through her lawyer Mr Peter Patisani, Rushwaya denied the charges saying she never offered anyone a bribe on the day in question as she had no intentions to smuggle the gold.

Rushwaya told the court that she only carried a wrong bag to the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
A fortnight ago, Mrs Mapiye rejected her application for discharge at the close of the State case and ordered her to explain what she did soon after the airport officials discovered she was in possession of gold.
In her defence case, Rushwaya insisted that she never offered a bribe to smuggle the said gold, as she was a gold buying agent for Fidelity Printers and Refiners with a gold buying licence.
Rushwaya told the court that if she had intentions to smuggle gold, she would have not volunteered to go through the security scanning point after being ushered by the airport officials to use the VIP section.
She said she advised airport officials, including Owen Sibanda whom she allegedly offered the bribe, that she had picked a wrong bag from home.
Rushwaya said upon her arrest, she cooperated with law enforcement agents at all material times.
She told the court that the police went to take the other bag, which she claims is similar to the one she was found with at the airport, during the time she was in remand prison.
Rushwaya said the police were still in custody of the two similar bags since 2020.

Mnangagwa Plots Against Chiwenga

By- Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa has started using parallel party structures to lure internal support ahead of the ruling party elective congress.

Zanu PF is holding its elective congress in October to choose the party 2023 Presidential elections.

The Standard reports that Mnangagwa is accused of imposing his ally John Paradza as leader of the Zanu PF youth league, sparking resistance from party structures.

Meetings to introduce Paradza and his new youth league executive ended in violence in Manicaland and Masvingo as Zanu PF factions clashed openly to demonstrate the chasm.

In Mutare, violent scenes erupted during an election to replace former Mutare district coordination committee secretary for youth affairs Danmore Mambondiani, who recently won a position in the national executive.

In Masvingo, violence marred a party youth meeting held at Masvingo Polytechnic where they had met to elect a new provincial youth leader.

The post was left vacant after Paradza’s elevation.

Ruling party insiders said Mnangagwa was using parallel structures such as MenBelievED to organise his 2023 election campaign because of growing mistrust within Zanu PF structures following the emergence of a faction allegedly aligned to Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga.

The MenBelievED group is organising a solidarity march for the Zanu PF leader  slated for August 27 at Harare’s Robert Mugabe Square.

Other groups that are campaigning for Mnangagwa outside Zanu PF structures are Young Women for ED and Varakashi for EDamong others.

Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa refused to comment about the march when asked if this was a planned party event.

He referred questions to the organiser of the march and founder of the MenBelievEd group Justice Matsatsira who yesterday said he could only comment about the march on Wednesday.

“I cannot comment right now,” Matsatsira said.

“I am away in the rural areas where I am attending a funeral.

“I will be back on Wednesday when I can give you more details on the march.”

In the past, similar marches were organised by party organs at the height of factional fights in Zanu PF that pitted late president Robert Mugabe and Mnangagwa.

Mugabe was eventually toppled in a coup in 2017, which paved the way for his deputy.

In 2016, former Zanu PF youth secretary Kudzai Chipanga organised a “million-man march” in support of Mugabe amid manoeuvres by a camp linked to Mnangagwa to remove him.

Chipanga also organised youth interface rallies where Mugabe’s wife, Grace would openly dress down alleged Mnangagwa allies.

In 2007, Zanu PF Bulawayo chairperson Jabulani Sibanda organised a similar march in support of Mugabe whose support was waning.

A recently leaked internal police memorandum showed that the ruling Zanu PF party’s popularity is waning at the grassroots following its cell audit that was conducted in June.

Political analyst Sydicks Muradzikwa said the solidarity march in support of Mnangagwa was senseless when the country was battling various social, political and economic crises.

“The planned solidarity march is an idea born out of extreme actions of solidarity and misguided ultra-patriotism ideologies among President Mnangagwa’s camp,” Muradzikwa said.

“Any action intended to show genuine solidarity should be anchored on political common sense and rationality.

“Regrettably, this is what happens when public support for politics is incentivised and is further devoid of political reasoning and common sense.”

Another analyst Vivid Gwede said the solidarity march showed that trouble was brewing in Zanu PF.

“We would surmise what else do the president’s supporters perceive as his difficulties if not the spectres of factionalism in his party or the approaching elections where his chances are being daily chipped away by the economic collapse,” Gwede said.

“A government and leadership that are doing well do not need solidarity marches.”

Mnangagwa is eyeing a second full term in next year’s elections where he is set to face Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa, whom he narrowly beat in the disputed 2018 elections.

An Afrobarometer survey in June showed that 33% of respondents said they would vote for Chamisa against 30% for the Zanu PF leader.

Ramaphosa Survives Mob Justice

By- South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has escaped a citizens’ arrest.

Rhamaphosa escaped after state security agents blocked dozens of South Africans intending to apprehend him at a National Women’s Day celebrations in Durban on Tuesday.

Said Naidoo:
We came from Pietermaritzburg to exercise our constitutional duty as citizens of the country, but we are disappointed that we were prevented from arresting the president by the police who are supposed to uphold the laws of the country.
We explained that we had the right to arrest the president, but we were stopped.
Ramaphosa is not supposed to be called president anymore after committing such serious crimes.
Apart from that, the event went well.

Chiwenga Confronted Over Gukurahundi

By-Human rights activists in Matabeleland challenged President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga to openly address the Gukurahundi issue after publicly claiming to have roots in the region.

During a visit to Bulawayo last week, Chiwenga claimed his great grandfather’s sister was a chief in Nkayi and married to Mzilikazi as one of his many wives.

Chiwenga also claimed that Mnangagwa’s grandfather, Mubengu was kept at the Mzilikazi royal kraal until he was conscripted into the Mbizo regiment.

But political commentator and human rights activist Effie Ncube said the victims of Gukurahundi are not interested in “disjointed self-serving historical narratives.” He said:

Instead, what matters to millions is truth and justice on the Gukurahundi genocide in which they were leading actors.

Therefore, now that both Mnangagwa and Chiwenga are speaking about their history in Matabeleland, let them focus on the most important and recent history, primarily the roles each of them played in the Gukurahundi genocide.

It is this truth and not the hazy precolonial history of their forefathers that people are interested in.

Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) president Mqondisi Moyo said Mnangagwa and Chiwenga are insincere and should desist from playing with people’s emotions. Said Moyo:

Why would both Chiwenga and Mnangagwa as the nephews of Mthwakazi facilitate the killing of their uncles? Both of them are shedding crocodile tears on our people.

We are glad that MRP is giving them sleepless nights, no wonder why up to this day they are failing to sincerely own up to Gukurahundi.

We are expecting them to be fixing the ailing economy instead of playing with our emotions.

Both Mnangagwa and Chiwenga have been accused of having played a leading role in the killing of 20 000 civilians in Matabeleland and Midlands in the first decade after independence.

Mnangagwa was the State security minister at the time and Chiwenga was in charge of the Bulawayo battalion that supported the North Korea-trained 5th Brigade that led the massacres.

Panicky Mnangagwa Claims Western Forces Plotting Zanu PF Removal

President Emmerson Mnangagwa said Western powers cannot teach democracy to Zimbabweans because they oppressed the country and denied its citizens the right to self-determination for decades.

In his address to the nation at the 42nd Heroes Day Commemorations held at the National Heroes Acre on Monday, Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe attained democracy through a protracted armed struggle. He said:

In line with my administration’s commitment to upholding the democracy bequeathed to us by our fallen heroes and heroines, Zimbabwe is unrelenting in its pursuit to entrench constitutionalism, the rule of law, and good governance and respect for human rights.

We cannot be taught democracy by those who denied us democracy. The heroes we honour fought for democracy and the equal access to justice we are enjoying as a country.

Let us, therefore, individually and collectively, protect it from all forms of abuse and desecration, more so, by those who never came to our help during the brutal oppressive years under white settler colonial regime.

Albeit as a peace-loving nation, Zimbabwe is a friend to all and an enemy to none.

The United States, Britain and their allies imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe at the turn of the Millenium citing the breakdown of the rule of law and violation of human rights.

However, the ZANU PF-led government insists the Western countries imposed sanctions to punish Zimbabweans for repossessing land from white farmers and redistributing it to the landless black majority.

HIV Remains World’s Public Health Challenge

HIV/AIDS remains one of the world’s most significant public health challenges, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

As a result of recent advances in access to antiretroviral therapy (ART), HIV-positive people now live longer and healthier lives. In addition, it has been confirmed that ART prevents onward transmission of HIV.

An estimated 28.7 million people were receiving HIV treatment in 2021. Globally, 75% of the 38.4 million people living with HIV in 2021 were receiving ART.

Progress has also been made in preventing and eliminating mother-to-child transmission and keeping mothers alive. In 2021, 81% of all pregnant women living with HIV, or 1.1 million women, received antiretrovirals (ARVs).

WHO has released a set of normative guidelines and provides support to countries in formulating and implementing policies and programmes to improve and scale up HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services for all people in need.

This fact file provides current data on the disease, and ways to prevent and treat it.

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infects cells of the immune system
Infection results in the progressive deterioration of the immune system, breaking down the body’s ability to fend off some infections and other diseases. AIDS (Acquired immune deficiency syndrome) refers to the most advanced stages of HIV infection, defined by the occurrence of any of more than 20 opportunistic infections or related cancers.

Access to preventive interventions remains limited in many low- and middle-income countries.

But progress has been made in some areas such as prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and keeping mothers alive. In 2021, 81% of all pregnant women living with HIV – 1.1 million women – received antiretrovirals worldwide. In 2015, Cuba was the first country declared by WHO as having eliminated mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis. By the end of 2021, 15 countries and territories were validated for eliminating mother-to-child HIV.

Marry Chiwenga Attends Courts In An Ambulance

By- Estranged Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s former wife, Marry, was Wednesday taken to court in an ambulance and later wheeled into the courtroom for her hearing.

This forced Harare regional magistrate Mrs Feresi Chakanyuka to defer the ruling on her application for exceptional jurisdiction to August 19 after noting that she could not comprehend court proceedings because of her ill health.

Marry is appearing at the Harare Magistrates Court charged with attempted murder after she allegedly tried to kill Vice President Constantino Chiwenga when he was in hospital in South Africa.
Marry in her application, argued that the court had no jurisdiction to preside over the matter as the alleged offence occurred in South Africa.
Her lawyer Ms Beatrice Mtetwa requested for deferment of the ruling to allow Mubaiwa to recover from her ailment.

Last week, Marry was issued with a warrant of arrest after she failed to walk into the courtroom because of her ailing condition.
The warrant was cancelled today.

Jabulani Sibanda Confronts Chiwenga Over Grabbed ZIPRA Farms

By Former War veterans chairman and Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial chairperson, Jabulani Sibanda, has confronted the government over all ZIPRA-owned properties ceased by the state.

Sibanda confronted vice President Constantino Chiwenga over these properties on Friday during the official opening of the SAI Mart shop in Entumbane, Bulawayo.

 He said:

Acting President, here in Matabeleland, there are some farms that are owned by war veterans, not those that were acquired during the Land Act.

When we were at the assembly points, we contributed money from our meagre salaries to buy those properties.

Some of the properties have been returned, while others have not been returned due to paperwork challenges.

Today, you visited us with a hero’s mind and attitude, and so I want to take this opportunity through that window into your heart to say please do not release those farms through newspapers, release them physically so that we have access to them.

Sibanda also revealed that two brand new buses belonging to Zenzeleni Super Express co-operative were burnt to shells during the Gukurahundi era.

Chiwenga did not immediately respond to the issues raised about ZIPRA properties.

According to a Daily News report, some of the properties include Magnet House which houses the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) Bulawayo headquarters, Kudu Motors, Hampton Farm, Ascot Farm, Nest Egg Farm, Woodyglen Farm, Mbalabala Garage, Nyamandlovu Farm, Snake Park and Salisbury Motel in Harare, among others.

About HIV/ AIDS

Mnangagwa Bans Screening Of President Chamisa Film

By Gift Ostallos Siziba

President- the documentary about the 2018 Zimbabwean general election has been banned by the regime in Harare.

We find it uncouth, cowardly and oppressive on the part of the our government to ban screening and distribution in Zimbabwe of this highly acclaimed film by the Danish Filmmaker Camilla Nielsson .

This documentary has already been screened globally , to include two times in Zambia , Kenya , UK, Norway, USA , Australia and soon in South Africa.

The banning of this multi-award winning documentary is an attack on the constitutionally guaranteed rights to media, freedom of expression, conscience and association.

We hope the battles in court will yield a decent outcome for the nation deserves access to unbiased information .

Ours is a quest to create a Zimbabwe that promotes access to media and free movement of information.

War Vets Issue Strong Warning Against Zanu PF Factionalists

By A Correspondent| War veterans in Mazowe district have issued a strong warning to Zanu PF members who are fanning factionalism in the district.

This came out during the district Heroes Day commemorations held at Nzvimbo Growth point on Monday.

Speaking at the event, Mazowe district war veterans chairman Ephanos Mudzimunyi said as custodians of the party, they will not tolerate those causing divisions.

“We fought for the liberation of the country and are custodians of the party. We want the party to be united and those who are causing divisions will not be tolerated,” Mudzimunyi said.

The divisions are a mirror reflection of the broader provincial factional fights in which two heavyweights, Mazowe DCC chairman Tafadzwa Musarara and current Mashonaland Central provincial chairman Kazembe Kazembe are tussling for control of the province.

Kazembe controversially won the provincial election of December last year punctuated by allegations of rigging, violence and several other abnormalities.

His controversial victory left the province fractured and recently, his camp tried to suspend Musarara although the overtures were thwarted by the leadership of the party.

Mudzimunyi said war veterans stood with Musarara and will not allow anyone to disrupt the party.

“We stand with Cde Musarara here and anyone who want to disturb that will pay. We will do to them what we did to (the late former president Robert) Mugabe,” he said amid wild acclamation from the audience.

Musarara, in a subsequent interview, said he was focusing on ensuing the party and its presidential candidate, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, obtain 100 000 votes in the 2023 general election.

“The party is very strong here. This is the first lady’s district and we are working hard mobilising people and ensuring that the party and the president win resoundingly,” he said.

“The district presently has 80 000 voters and we want to increased that to at least 100 000 by next year. That way, we will have contributed decently to the five million votes which the party wants to mobilise for the president at next year’s election.”

On divisions, he said: “We are not really focusing on who is fighting who. All we want is to ensure the party wins and that we reclaim the one seat currently occupied by the opposition. The people of Mazowe had a strong attachment to the party, not only from the liberation war perspective, but also from a developmental perspective. For instance, last year, we managed to fill the Nzvimbo GMB depot with maize for the first time in 15 years.”

“We have a very rich geographical endowment in terms of the soils, the rainfall pattern and we are a food basket for other districts in the country. We have been in touch with the people on the ground trying to implement the party’s manifesto of 2018. We have managed to improve roads, schools and clinics,” he said.

Musarara also sponsored the participation at the event of man-of-the-moment, Sungura artist Mark Ngwazi, who kept thousands of fans spellbound with his scintillating performances.

Ngwazi, who also hails from the district, was supported by several other artists, including popular rhumba musician Juntal.

“We thought it was wise to bring the artist closer to his fans and it’s a great idea. It is also meant to empower the artists because they are performing here for a fee,” Musarara said.

Ghost Of Violence Returns To Haunt Zanu PF

RECENT political violence that rocked the ruling Zanu PF party elections to choose Masvingo provincial youth chairperson has unsettled the party’s youth league boss John Paradza.

The post was left vacant after Paradza was elected into the national executive as Zanu PF deputy secretary for youth affairs.

Elections, held at Masvingo Polytechnic a fortnight ago to choose his successor, had to be suspended after youths exchanged blows in front of the provincial leadership.

“The most important thing as youths is to be disciplined. Our President Emmerson Mnangagwa has already said that we should be disciplined and be united. I condemn the violence in the strongest terms. I don’t want that. If you (contestants) fail to control your supporters, then how are you going to lead the province?” Paradza said during an interview with NewsDay on the sidelines of the Heroes Day celebrations at the National Heroes Acre in the capital on Monday.

Paradza also said he was not rooting for anyone for the vacant post.

“I am not backing anyone in the elections that are set to replace me. I don’t have any interest in the elections. I am now in the national executive, but I have said to all the candidates that ‘if you are the best candidate, you are going to win’. I want the best candidate to win,” he said.

Meanwhile, Zanu PF Mashonaland East province has rolled out what it calls “mop-up campaigns” in a bid to grab all 23 seats in the 2023 elections.

Zanu PF boasts 21 out of 23 constituencies in Mashonaland East after losing Goromonzi South and Marondera Central to the opposition in the last election.

Addressing scores of party supporters at Gumbonzvanda in Hwedza South constituency at the weekend, provincial chairperson Daniel Garwe said they were eyeing massive votes from Hwedza, Uzumba, Maramba, Pfungwe (UMP) and Goromonzi districts.

“Out of 79 000 people who have registered to vote in Hwedza, at least 80% (of the votes) must go to President Emmerson Mnangagwa,” Garwe said.

“There is a huge population in Goromonzi and UMP and we should put an eagle eye on these districts by stressing vigorous mop-up campaigns to increase the President’s votes.”

The province recently appointed a high-powered delegation led by politburo member David Parirenyatwa that is moving in districts mobilising people to register to vote.

The team is also assisting its members to obtain identity documents which are needed for voter registration and voting.

Zanu PF says it plans to mobilise five million votes, while Citizens Coalition for Change is eyeing six million.

ZESA In Desperate Bid To Recover US$62 Million From Top Govt Bosses

TOP government officials, critical security establishments, including police stations and ministry departments, were left in the dark last week after the country’s power utility, Zesa, switched them off in an attempt to recover US$62 million owed by exporting companies and ZW$17 billion by ordinary consumers.

The NewsHawks, after reporting on the blitz last week, established that several farms, some owned by government and politically connected individuals who were notorious for not paying for electricity were switched off. All along, they were being shielded from load shedding, but the blitz exposed how the bigwigs have not been paying for services rendered by parastatals.

Zesa executive chairperson Sydney Gata confirmed the blitz in a speech at the handover of vehicles in Harare,  but would not disclose those who were left in the dark. However, sources confirmed that government officials, councils, institutions and some police stations were affected.

“In as much as we try to capacitate the business, break even and deliver excellent quality service, we are owed US$62 million and ZW$17 billion by customers,” Gata said.

“We have since embarked on an aggressive debt collection blitz to recover what is owed to us. Just this past weekend, we disconnected various defaulters.”

This comes amid reports that local authorities are also planning a similar blitz, with

prominent names of companies and individuals also featuring prominently.

It emerged that of late, the power utility’s load shedding was not affecting powerful people, including politicians whose businesses consume a lot of electricity, while it affected lower-end power users.

“The challenge is that we are now in serious competition with other countries that rely on the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) for power. With Mozambique and Zambia generating much of the power, they now need payments upfront,” a local engineer told The NewsHawks this week.

Zimbabwe needs over US$17 million a month for electricity now coming mainly from Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) and Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (Zesco).

No Justice For August 1 Victims

By A Correspondent- Soldiers who shot and killed innocent civilians on 1 August  2018 have not been prosecuted, four years on, with growing calls for justice falling on deaf ears.

Despite appointing former South African president Kgalema Motlanthe to chair a commission of inquiry and make recommendations after the shootings which claimed six lives and left dozens others injured, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has ignored the voice of reason, including calls for justice by the victims and their families.

This, observers said, was indicative of impunity where state security can kill innocent civilians without repercussion.

It is reminiscent of the 1980s Gukurahundi genocide in Matabeleland and the Midlands where the 5th Brigade brutally killed civilians. Nearly 40 years after 20 000 civilians were killed, there is still no justice.

The government has neither apologised for Gukurahundi nor atoned for the 1 August shootings.

So far, only one victim, with the assistance of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, sued Defence minister Oppah Muchinguri and her Home Affairs counterpart Kazembe Kazembe and won his case. He is set to receive ZW$3 million in compensation.

Zakeo Mutimutema suffered injuries when soldiers shot him during the post-election protest in the capital.

He is among dozens shot on 1 August 2018 when protesters stormed the streets to demand the release of the presidential vote.

Six civilians were shot dead in central Harare when soldiers opened fire indiscriminately. According to autopsy reports, victims were shot in the back while fleeing the marauding soldiers.

Despite spending taxpayers’ money on instituting the commission of inquiry, the government has conveniently chosen to ignore the recommendations, which include the compensation of victims and bringing to book the murderous soldiers.

Four years on, families are still seeking justice while the victims live with the haunting memories of the shootings.

Loveday Munesi, a victim, still has a bullet lodged in one of his buttocks, after failing to secure funding for surgery in India.

Political analyst Rashweat Mukundu said Mnangagwa’s failure to bring to book the culprits, most of them still serving members of the military, is an indication that more atrocities against civilians could be committed in future and justice will never be served.

“The Motlanthe commission of inquiry into the shootings report has recommendations that have been thrown into the dustbin by Mnangagwa,” Mukundu said.

“The issue is forgotten and there seems to be no intention to address this matter,” he added.

He said those implicated, including senior military officers who dispatched soldiers onto the streets to shoot unarmed civilians, were still in the army while some have been deployed to key government institutions.

One of them, the then commander of the Presidential Guard, Anselem Sanyatwe, who also testified before the Motlanthe commission, is now Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Tanzania.

“The message is the same: abuses can be repeated. There is no justice for the victims and it was a way of silencing critics by way of pretending to act, but the true character of government is coming out on the matter,” Mukundu.

Added Mukundu: “It is not a surprise because the current government is hugely militarised and will not turn against themselves because they are in government and are the ones who are in power.”

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition director Blessing Vava said there was growing concern over the government’s reluctance to act on the recommendations.

“The Coalition has held a series of interviews with relatives of the victims of the August 1, 2018 shootings and concern is high over non-implementation of the recommendations of the Motlanthe commission of inquiry,” Vava said.

Vava said ensuring justice and bringing closure to the events of 1 August 2018 is critical for national healing and reconciliation.

“We implore President Emmerson Mnangagwa to own up to his pledge of a new dispensation and ensure the implementation of the recommendations.”

Free Drivers’ Licences For Byo Youths Who Register To Vote

By A Correspondent- Bulawayo City Council Ward 26 councillor Mpumelelo Moyo is offering rewards to citizens who will mobilise the most youths to register as voters ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Twenty (20) “lucky” youths will be given an opportunity to obtain a driver’s licence free of charge if they register to vote.

There are also three deep freezers up for grabs for three people who will mobilise the highest number of youths to register.

Moyo said the campaign will run from 1 to 31 August and is being coordinated by a team of 50 people who are mobilising eligible residents to register to vote. He said:

We are driving Zimbabwe into the future by focusing on the youth whose participation in the voter registration process is low. I need all street champions to Champion this programme.

We secured 3 deep freezers for the 3 champions who will mobilise the most youths to register. We are starting from 1 August to 31 August.

At the end of the program, we will conduct a draw to select the first 20 lucky youths whom we will assist to attain class 4 driver’s licences.

This will also make them employable and generate income for themselves. We have put in place a Kombi to ferry them, all those that are ready can be transported to ZEC offices at Famona at any time convenient to them

“July Moyo Behind Harare Water Challenges”: Mliswa

Norton MP, Temba Mliswa (Independent), has blamed the Minister of Local Government and Public Works, July Moyo, for Harare’s current water challenges.

Wate taps ran dry in Harare for more than two days last week. While the precious liquid is now available in some suburbs, the water supply is erratic.

The Harare City Council attributed the water crisis to a lack of water treatment chemicals at the Morton Jaffray and Prince Edward water works.

Posting on Twitter, Mliswa accused Moyo of holding onto nearly $2 billion in devolution funds allocated to Harare by Treasury while the city fails to buy water treatment chemicals. Said Mliswa:

It is saddening to notice that the Local Government minister can watch the waterworks of our country’s capital completely shut down without showing much concern.

Here is a minister who is clinging on to devolution funds, and in the process, incapacitating Harare City’s crucial services like water treatment thereby exposing millions of residents to diseases.

This is the same man who corruptly pushed for the purchase and installation of water pumps. The big question is, what is the purpose of water pumps when you don’t have water?

A government of the people cannot afford to stand and watch while July is running riot exposing millions of people to diseases. This madness needs to be stopped.

Millions of Harare residents were forced to rely on unsafe water sources following the closure of the water treatment plants.

Teachers for ED a Sleeping Tablet for Teacher Trade Unionism

By Dr Takavafira Zhou| In an attempt to silence teachers’ call for the restoration of purchasing power parity of their salaries to US$540 a masquarade Teachers for Economic Development (ED) has emerged with the intention to divert teachers from crucial labour issues into some warped and imagined economic development in a country that is in recession due to neo-liberal policies pursued by gvt. Worse still this masquarade has solicited for Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s assistance in order to launch its provincial and national structures and granted permission on 25 July 2022. Mnangagwa Boycotts Top Killer Junta Wedding

By- President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the weekend boycotted the wedding of Lieutenant General (Rtd) Anselem Sanyatwe and his wife Chido Machona-Sanyatwe.

Sanyatwe, now Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Tanzania, was in charge of the Presidential Guard that killed six civilians on 1 August 2018.

The victims had protested against the delays by ZEC to release Presidential election results.

Sanyatwe and Chido renewed their wedding vows at a ceremony held at Regina Coeli Mission in Nyanga on Sunday.

Mnangagwa sent his deputy Constantino Chiwenga to Sanyatwe’s wedding.

The ceremony was attended by Manicaland Provincial minister Nokuthula Matsikenyere, deputy Transport minister Mike Madiro, Nyanga North legislator Supa Mandiwanzira, and top army officials.

Home-Sick Kasukuwere Tackles Mnangagwa

By-Exiled former Zanu PF Political Commissar and Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere has confronted President Emmerson Mnangagwa over the persecution of political opponents.

Kasukuwere confronted Mnangagwa on Monday and urged his government to stop using the law as a weapon against critics.

In a statement marking the country’s 42nd Heroes Day Commemorations on 8 August 2022, Kasukuwere said it was wrong for the government to hound citizens out of the country because of political differences. Said Kasukuwere:

No Zimbabwean should be imprisoned without charge for lawfully and rightfully taking part in our politics, no Zimbabwean should be persecuted because of political differences and no Zimbabwean should be exiled because of personal or political differences.

Ours is no longer a war of canons and guns, it is a war to deliver economic independence. We are no longer pressed with racial inequality, but we see economic inequality all around us.

Let us seize the opportunity to be the heroes of future generations and present. Let us rise to our generational calling. Out of us, heroes must emerge.

Kasukuwere also bemoaned the country’s seemingly unending economic challenges that have pushed millions of Zimbabweans out of the country in search of greener pastures. He said:

As we celebrate and remember, let’s not forget the Zimbabwean child toiling because of a lack of employment, lack of empowerment and lack of services.

Let us not forget the millions of Zimbabweans who have been forced to live as second-class citizens in other countries, sometimes subjected to degrading and inhumane conditions and discrimination in these foreign domiciles.

Khupe Assures Chamisa 1000 Bulilima Votes

By -Former deputy Prime minister and CCC member Thokozani Khupe said they were working on getting the 1000 votes needed for the party to win three wards in the upcoming by-election in Bulilima.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) will hold by-elections in Bulilima on September 3, 2022, in Ward 1, 14 and 16 following the resignation of ZANU PF councillors Tonny Mlotshwa and Ntungamili Dube and the death of Delani Mabhena.

Currently, ZANU PF controls 21 councillors in Bulilima Rural District Council while the opposition MDC Alliance has one ward.

Speaking during a recent Twitter space organised by the CCC Mthwakazi, a group of the party’s supporters based in the diaspora, Khupe, who was the deputy Prime Minister during the GNU era (2009-2013), said:

The by-election will build a strong foundation for the 2023 election. Bulilima used to be our stronghold up until 2013 and it is very possible for us to regain it.

We can only manage to generate these votes, if we have the right tools to use, hence the reason why we are appealing for your assistance in terms of fuel, t-shirts and flyers.

The manpower we have is ready to work but people need assistance to be able to interact with the electorate.

As you know, people vote for the party which interacts with them constantly. That is why it is important that we keep in touch with our electorate until September 2, a day before voting on September 3, 2022.

This can only happen if we go to all the villages and be there every day. That’s why we need fuel, fliers, and t-shirts.

Campaign teams can’t go without t-shirts and regalia because people want to identify with them through their regalia. People need that regalia so we are appealing to you.

We have people who are not registered, people who don’t want to vote and passive voters so we want to change them and make sure everybody votes because every vote counts.

We are going to be interacting with people on the voters’ roll, who are registered, talking to them to generate the 900 and 1 000 votes.

Redefining Patriotism

CONTESTING THE MEANING OF PATRIOTISM IN POST-COLONIAL ZIMBABWE

BY SIMBA MUKORI

Zimbabwe is a country in deep crisis. It is embroiled in a multi-faceted crisis of an unprecedented magnitude on numerous fronts-be they socio-legal or politico-economic.The country has experienced massive structural regression characterized by alarming levels of unemployment, infrastructural decay and enormous deterioration in the provision of critical social services.Endemic corruption, gross economic mismanagement, flagrant violations of human rights, blatant disregard of the rule of law and its selective application constitute an avalanche of problems that citizens continue to grapple with daily in contemporary Zimbabwe.

From war veterans bemoaning the harsh deterioration of their welfare to workers in various sectors of the economy lamenting the ruthless erosion of the value of their monthly incomes;from students protesting the denial of academic freedoms and access to quality, affordable education to peasants and the rural populace tearful about arbitrary displacements from their ancestral lands to pave way for ruling party’s Chinese friends,Zimbabwe at the present historical juncture has degenerated into an autocratic, authoritarian and tyrannical state that denies its citizens peace and happiness in their lifetime.

Amid these torrid and painful conditions, the broad mass of the people have become critical of the government and state, unhappy about the direction the country is taking.Instead of responding positively to the genuine concerns of the people, the government under Zanu pf always resort to coercive and repressive apparatuses of the state to deal with public discontent.
Of great concern is the labeling of anyone critical of the government as being unpatriotic and a sell-out!Any citizen who dare oppose the government’s heavy-handedness,excesses and ruinous policies is labelled unpatriotic.Actually,a whole discourse dubbed patriotic history has been widely deployed whose agenda is to indoctrinate the naive,to portray and privatize politics as the sole preserve of those who participated in the nationalist liberation movement prior to the independence of this beautiful land-locked country Zimbabwe.Zanu pf has been hitherto fostering a narrative that seeks to disqualify anyone who becomes critical of its administration from being considered a patriotic citizen. It has become unequivocally clear along the years that anyone who does not agree with the ruling, ruining party is labelled unpatriotic and a sell-out,even those who participated in the struggle for liberation like Cde Rugare Gumbo,Mai Mujuru and Dzikamai Mavhaire.Indeed,it is such notorious and treacherous shenanigans by Zanu that has provoked my interest to interrogate the meaning of patriotism in contemporary post-colonial Zimbabwe.

What does it mean to be patriotic? Can patriotism be reduced to mere partisanship,to a mere party affiliation or its much more broader and all-encompassing given the plurality of political parties with different ideologies and policy persuasions in a multi-party constitutional democracy? In the ultimate analysis, however,it must be unambiguously clear that Zanu must not be allowed to use the rhetoric of patriotism as a weapon for its hegemonic machinations and devices, risking a situation whereby all other citizens are relegated to second class citizens simply because they hold different opinions on how the country must be governed! Now they have even stooped so low as to enact a Patriotic Act whose obnoxious and nefarious agenda is suppression of people’s voices and repression of dissent and stifling democracy!

Many scholars have defined patriotism simply as being loyal to one’s country and motherland, with a greater emphasis on commitment and devotion to the values and beliefs a country holds dear.It denotes a sense of pride, dedication and affection in belonging to the motherland.True patriotism is reflected through active citizenship, which means active participation in the governance and development processes that contribute to the well-being of a nation-state and its people.

In most countries, the expressed will of the people, their aspirations, values, beliefs and hopes are enshrined in the constitution.Even in the case of Zimbabwe, reference can be made to the opening sections of the Supreme law that delineates lucidly what it terms national objectives, founding values and principles. It is beyond disputation that Zimbabwe is founded on respect for such principles like the supremacy of the constitution, rule of law, fundamental human rights and freedoms, recognition of the inherent dignity and worth of each human being, gender equality and good governance which emphasizes transparency and accountability and the equitable distribution of the nation’s abundant resources,to mention just a few.

The pursuit and promotion of such values, principles and ideals as enunciated in the constitution and loyalty to such noble objectives is what must constitute patriotism-which is love for one’s country, its people and all the resources in it.Suffice to say acts of commission or omission by the state and all its institutions and agencies of government at any level or any citizen that violate, disregard or undermine these values and principles that define our Zimbabwean nationhood amount to lack of patriotism!

Corruption is in violation of the founding values of the nation-state under good governance which entails transparency and accountability and therefore anyone guilty of such is unpatriotic.Hurting your citizens for daring to challenge how the affairs of the nation are managed is what must be deemed as unpatriotic.Using the state for personal enrichment at the expense of the broad mass of our people is unpatriotic.Colluding with exploitative and extractive callous Chinese capitalists to dispossess our people of their ancestral communal lands and deprive them of livelihoods is unpatriotic. To deny workers decent wages, students a better education and war veterans a better welfare is pure hatred for the people which is the opposite of patriotism.Multiple farm owners are damn unpatriotic! In fact,Zanu represents and is a true reflection of the lack of patriotism..if by patriotism we mean love of the country, the people and all its endowments.

How on earth can Hopewell Chin’ono who is exposing and fighting corruption be labelled unpatriotic while Obadiah and Priscilla Mupfumira who stole millions of United States dollars be considered patriots? How can Makomborero who is demanding democracy be regarded unpatriotic when villains like Henrietta Rushwaya smuggle our country’s gold but is embraced by those who have arrogated themselves powers to define patriotism? How can Netsai Marova,Cecilia Chimbiri and Joanna Mamombe be seen as unpatriotic for demanding household food security, respect for human rights and a stop to gender-based violence while those who abuse women like Mary Mubaiwa are celebrated as patriots?

It must be stated categorically that it was the love for and a pure vision of a Zimbabwe where democracy and respect for human rights would flourish and thrive that inspired the struggle for liberation. The supreme sacrifices that the illustrious gallant young men and women of yesteryear paid to get rid of settler white supremacist domination and subjugation was motivated by clear objectives. It was the desire to restore human dignity to all through respect for human rights and end all forms of discrimination, reclaim land previously lost through colonial dispossession, achieve equitable distribution of natural resources among the citizenry and establish a socio-legal order that would guarantee the security of persons and accord each and everyone an equal opportunity.
In the wake of an African nationalist victory,a more democratic and human rights-based society was the logical expectation.Regrattably, the authoritarianism, state brutality and maladministration of the colonial era seems to have reproduced itself in the present leadership as it is clear that for the past 41 years Zanu has failed to deliver on the promises and expectations of independence. In what others have termed the pursuit of the unfinished business of the liberation struggle,an intergenerational consensus that seeks to fight for the previously envisioned Zimbabwe has taken shape.Just like those who converged around the idea of black majority rule before independence were labelled terrorist by Rodhesian settlerism, today the citizens who are converging for change, who are fighting for a better Zimbabwe that performs for all are like wise being labelled unpatriotic and sellouts. This labeling is not new.

The fight against corruption is an act of patriotism. The desire for a developmental state that improves the quality of life of the broad mass of our people is an act of patriotism.Broadly speaking, the fight for a post-nationalist democratic alternative that is inclusive, accountable, transparent and responsive to the needs, aspirations and desires of the people is a reflection of patriotism.

Zanu must never be allowed to define patriotism to suit its own insidious agendas and to delegetimise other citizens from the historiography of Zimbabwean nationhood. It is the love for this country that is the motivation behind all the fight by progressive Zimbabweans for a better country. This is a discourse that we must contest and define what patriotism means to us as a people. We cannot leave this noble duty to lootocrats and kleptocrats in Zanu pf.

Until victory!!

Odinga, Ruto Battle For Supremacy

Outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta, having served the constitutionally limited two terms, is backing one-time foe Raila Odinga, 77, to succeed him.

His decision followed a falling out with Deputy President William Ruto, 55, who had expected to be endorsed.

More than 22 million Kenyans have registered to vote.

There are several other elections happening at the same time and a mix-up of ballot papers in some areas for some of those votes has again raised questions about the organisation of the general election.

Polls are open for 11 hours from 06:00 local time (03:00 GMT). Anyone still in the queue at closing time will be allowed to vote.

The results of the last presidential election in 2017 were annulled after the Supreme Court ruled that the electoral commission had not followed the law when it came to the electronic transmission of the vote tallies from the polling stations.

Seven charts that explain Kenya ahead of elections
Judges ruled that “illegalities and irregularities” had taken place.

A re-run was won by Mr Kenyatta, but boycotted by Mr Odinga – the main opposition candidate at the time.

The chairman of the electoral commission, Wafula Chebukati, who was also in charge of the 2017 vote, has frequently tried to reassure Kenyans that his team will be up to the task this time.

But Monday’s logistical problems have increased the pressure on him.

Baba v Hustler
This election looks like it will be a tight race between frontrunners Mr Odinga and Mr Ruto.

Mr Odinga – a long-serving opposition leader, nicknamed Baba (“father”) by his supporters, is running for president for a fifth time. Mr Ruto, who has tried to emphasise his connection with ordinary Kenyans by calling himself a “hustler”, will be taking his first stab at the presidency.

Two other candidates – David Mwaure and George Wajackoya – are also in the race.

Despite the campaign being dominated by issues, ethnic loyalty may also play a part in determining how people vote.

For the first time in the multi-party era none of the main candidates are from the country’s largest ethnic group – Kikuyu.

But knowing that those votes are vital, both have chosen Kikuyu running mates.

Voting process
To win the presidential race in the first round, a candidate needs:

more than half of all the votes cast across the country
at least 25% of the votes cast in a minimum of 24 counties.
Voters will also be choosing MPs and senators to go to the national parliament, county governors and county assembly members, as well as 47 women’s representatives to sit in the National Assembly.

On election day, voters will have their fingerprint scanned to check their identity but a printed register can also be used if the machines fail.

Each voter will then be given colour-coded ballot papers for each of the elections, which they will mark in a private booth and drop in the relevant ballot boxes.

Counting will start at the polling stations shortly after voting ends. Officials will then take a photo of the final tally and send the image to both the constituency and national tallying centres.

To ensure transparency the media, political parties and civil society groups have been urged to run their own tallies using final results declared at the more than 40,000 polling stations.

But only the electoral commission can declare the winner of the presidential election after verifying the physical and digital forms sent to the national tallying centre.

The main presidential candidates have vowed to respect the result of the elections.- BBC

Ngwazi Missing At Own Show

Scores of revellers were injured at PaGomba Cafe in Beitbridge when disgruntled fans threw missiles indiscriminately after sungura artiste Mark Ngwazi failed to show up for a show.

At first revellers pelted an unknown stand-in-band to vent their anger after having been let down by Ngwazi.

“Police can confirm there was crowd trouble at the PaGomba Cafe when an artiste who was supposed to play at the weekend did not show up. We have not had any reports from people who were injured, but police attended a scene where revellers threw missiles at random, most probably disappointed having paid money for a show that never was,” Chief Superintendent Tichaona Nyongo said yesterday.

“The revellers destroyed the windows of a minibus that was used as the cash point into the venue where scores of people gathered for the show.”

None of the injured made a police report, but the owner of the joint who had hired the band reported the trouble to police, Nyongo said.

Ngwazi yesterday said he had nothing to say.

“You can just write that I have nothing regarding the issue. I am about to perform here at the Defence Forces event and you want me to say something now because you want me to, you can go ahead and say I have nothing to say,” he said before cutting the call.

The operator of PaGomba Cafe known only as Simbini was not picking calls yesterday.

One reveller said posters advertising Ngwazi’s show at PaGomba were posted around the border town and a charge of $5 was levied at the gate.

“Scores of fun-loving people gathered and there was another band playing which everyone mistook for curtain raiser artistes. Later news that Ngwazi had not come filtered through and trouble started,” Nyongo said.

The crowd started pelting the band and when it ran for cover the riotous crowd continued throwing missiles everywhere.

“Trouble spilt into the car park outside the venue where some people targeted the minibus used as the cash collection point. Its windows were shattered by the angry crowd,” said a security guard at the venue.

Some revellers sustained cuts after they were hit by bottles.

Many were caught unaware.

“It’s robbery; it is daylight robbery and such promoters must be banned,” one reveller said.–Newsday

Zanu PF Bigwigs Destroy Chivi School

Thusanani Oryx

Chivi – Turmoil has ruined Chivi North’s Ruminya Secondary as Senior Zanu PF leaders are reportedly interfering in the running of the school with head identified as Kwanisai running for dear life.

A local teacher who is reportedly a local person is linked to senior politicians.

“The teacher has been in the administration for quite a long time.
“The teacher is using his connection to undermine the head” fumed villagers.

Parents with children at the school said if the teacher identified as JB wants the post, he must read.

This has noted been the only case of teachers being victimised by Zanu PF bigwigs.

Schools are not devwloping because of harassment.

Some learners have been left without teachers because of Zanu PF thugs.

Apart from Chivi district, Gutu district also tops in political victimisation of teachers.
In the end, parents and children suffer not politicians.

Ruminya Sec School Head flees for his life after Acting Deputy chases him with an axe:: In a bizzare incident that has sent tongues waging in the Mukotosi area of Headman Madamombe in Chief Chivi, a School Head at Ruminya High School Mr Tsikisayi Kwanisayi had to flee for his life after an irate Acting Deputy known as JB chased him with an axe baying for his blood in the early hours of Wednesday 3 August 2022 accusing him of removing him from the office as a dog It was only an alert husband of a female teacher by the name Tagwirei who came to the rescue of a visibly shaken Kwanisai who got hold of the axe from Mr JB otherwise the Head would be history by now. What incensed JB is that the school head announced to the staff members and at School Assembly that he has reshuffled his school administration since JB is not degreed and rather incompetent while the school boasts of many graduates. This did not go down well with JB hence the outburst and altercation with the Head. It is alleged JB sought the support of Headman Madamombe and Councellor God. Huruba to be reinstated as Acting Deputy Head. Councellor Huruba is said to have intervened by phoning Chivi DSi who summoned Kwanisayi for a hearing on Thursday 4 August 2022 and instructed the Head to reinstate JB into office but teachers at the are crying foul and claim the school is now in shambles

Mnangagwa Praises Mugabe Foes

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has officially recognised late pioneering nationalists Ndabaningi Sithole and James Chikerema as part of the country’s standout heroes despite regurgitating his predecessor’s views the two sold out during the struggle for independence.

Sithole and Chikerema were both allies-turned-enemies of late former State leader Robert Mugabe who adamantly denied them the honour over grudges stemming from the liberation war period.

Mnangagwa made the pronouncement while leading the main celebrations of the country’s 42nd Heroes Day Commemorations at the National Shine, Harare.

Sithole, a founding Zanu President, was in 1975 ousted by former allies in place of Mugabe.

He died in 2000 aged 80 after enduring a frustrating political career that involved relentless persecution by the then State leader.

On his part, Chikerema, uncle and Mugabe contemporary, was a fierce fire-brand in his heyday.

The two had frequent run-ins dating back to their boyhood extending into pre and post-independence when both waged the liberation struggle from their different stations.

Chikerema succumbed to cancer in a US hospital March 2006 aged 81.

Mugabe took his grudges with the two right to their graves through hero status denial.

In attempts to undo his predecessor’s perceived transgressions, Mnangagwa has moved to confer the honour on Sithole and Chikerema.

“As the Second Republic, we are committed to giving a wholistic account of our country’s long war of liberation.

“We are therefore rising to the occasion and recognising other heroes and heroines such as the late Reverend Ndabaningi Sithole and the late Cde James Chikerema for their historical contributions, despite their areas of weaknesses, with regards to the observance of the correct line of the Revolution.

“For that reason, we now honour them among the list of our national heroes and heroines.

“We forever remain indebted to all the heroes and heroines of our great country for the freedom, democracy and independence we enjoy to this day. Their sacrifices will never die.”

Mnangagwa said his government also honours citizens who have excelled in other facets of life and not just in the liberation struggle.

Said the State leader, “The nation may recall that, in 2021, my Government established the following honours; the Robert Gabriel Mugabe Commendation Award; the Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Nkomo Commendation Award; and the Herbert Wiltshire Pfumaindini Chitepo Commendation Award in recognition of the sacrifices and outstanding feats achieved by the country’s founding fathers.

“We shall, thus, recognise and honour heroism beyond the war of liberation and defence sector. Milestones in science, technology and innovation; the accelerated development and growth of our economy as well as the growth of ‘Made in Zimbabwe’ goods and services are applauded and celebrated. So too are initiatives around cultural preservation and other heroic efforts by our people, both at home and abroad, that raise the Zimbabwe National Flag high.

We Can’t Be Taught Democracy By Detractors- Mnangagwa

Drowning Prevention Measures

Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a call for people around the world to “do one thing” to prevent drowning.

As one of the leading causes of death globally for children and young people ages 1–24, and the third leading cause of injury-related deaths overall, drowning tragically claims more than 236 000 lives each year. To galvanize action and mark World Drowning Prevention Day, the Jet d’Eau in Geneva will be illuminated in blue this evening, accompanied by similar actions in other cities around the world.

More than 90% of drowning deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries, with children under the age of 5 being at highest risk. These deaths are frequently linked to daily, routine activities, such as bathing, collecting water for domestic use, travelling over water on boats or ferries, and fishing. The impacts of seasonal or extreme weather events – including monsoons – are also a frequent cause of drowning and these impacts are largely preventable through a number of interventions.

“Every year, around the world, hundreds of thousands of people drown. Most of these deaths are preventable through evidence-based, low-cost solutions,” said WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “Today, cities around the world are lighting up their monuments in blue light as a call to action for each of us to do our part to prevent drowning. Let’s put a stop to drowning.”

“Drowning is a global public health challenge, and at Bloomberg Philanthropies, we’re focused on implementing solutions to prevent it.

Today, we’re joining our partners around the world in recognizing World Drowning Prevention Day and taking action,” said Michael R. Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg Philanthropies and WHO Global Ambassador for Noncommunicable Diseases and Injuries. “In many cases, we know what works to prevent drowning. We’ve developed tools and guidance to help governments implement solutions – and if we do more together, we really can save thousands of lives.”

WHO recommends 6 evidence-based measures to prevent drowning, including installing barriers controlling access to water; training bystanders in safe rescue and resuscitation; teaching school-aged children basic swimming and water safety skills; providing supervised day care for children; setting and enforcing safe boating, shipping and ferry regulations; and improving flood risk management.

This year, the theme of World Drowning Prevention Day invites the global community to “do one thing” to prevent drowning. Examples of actions that can be taken are as follows:

Individuals can share drowning prevention and water safety advice with their families, friends and colleagues, sign up for swimming or water safety lessons, or support local drowning prevention charities and groups.

Groups can host public events to share water safety information, launch water safety campaigns, or commit to developing or delivering new drowning prevention programmes using recommended best practice interventions.

Governments can develop or announce new drowning prevention policies, strategies, legislation or investment, convene multisectoral roundtables or parliamentary discussions on drowning burden and solutions, and introduce or commit to supporting drowning prevention programming domestically or internationally.
Many countries in the world have committed to drowning prevention programmes.

Bangladesh has started a 3-year program to reduce drowning among children throughout the country. As part of the program, the government will take over the 2 500 daycares established and funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies since 2012, and will expand the program by adding an additional 5 500 daycares to provide supervision to 200 000 children ages 1–5 years.

Be Objective, President Chamisa Exhorts Elections Body In Kenya

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa believes the elections in Kenya are being conducted in a peaceful and democratic way.

According to President Chamisa, Zimbabwe and Kenya have a lengthy history of cooperation.

Outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta, having served the constitutionally limited two terms, is backing one-time foe Raila Odinga, 77, to succeed him.

His decision followed clashes with Deputy President William Ruto, 55, who had expected to be endorsed.

More than 22 million Kenyans have registered to vote.

On Tuesday President Chamisa said in a statement:
“KENYA and ZIMBABWE have a long history of cooperation in various facets for the growth & development of our Peoples. As Kenyans go to the polls,we wish our Cdes & Kenyans in general,a peaceful democratic transition. Be assured Zimbabweans are with you now & beyond.

ELECTIONS IN KENYA…Kenya is in labour…

Lots of key lessons and take aways from the Elections body and the Players in Politics in Kenya.Elections must be credible & peaceful.

It’s the destiny of a nation – a vital turning point for any nation.#KenyaDecides2022.”

President Chamisa Salutes Defence Forces

THE DEFENCE FORCES – A CITIZENS’ FORCE!

Today is an important day, a historic day, one penned in the history of the birth of our nation Zimbabwe by the sacrifices and toil of many men, women and children who paid the ultimate price to liberate this nation.

To our revered uniformed forces, to all our men and women in uniform of all ranks – top to bottom, we love and honour you all.

I salute you, our dedicated men and women in uniform on the occasion of this special day, a day to celebrate our Defence Forces.

Indeed, I salute and duly acknowledge the unstinting and committed service that you, our patriotic security services, continue to render to our beloved beautiful country-Zimbabwe, even under extremely difficult circumstances and challenges.

Soldiers, like the Police Service, Prison Service and Intelligence Service are badges of patriotism, symbols of the State and embodiment of the collective will of a people. The security forces are above party politics. You stand for country not party.

Except in rare moments when partisan politics toxifies the esteemed Defence Forces establishment, I, with pride and honour, salute our men and women in uniform for their versatility and adeptness in defending national and regional security.

Like the great singer said, ‘We love Zimbabwe and all its wealth..Mothers and Fathers are in them..Stand up Zimbabwe! ‘Tinoda Zimbabwe neupfumi hwayo hwose..Vana Mai nanaBaba ndimo mavari..Simuka Zimbabwe! ‘Sifuna iZimbabwe lenotho yayo yonke. Bobaba labomama yini abanikazi bomnotho weLizwe. Phakama Zimbabwe Phakama.’

As a nation, we fought a just war of liberation and the dedication, sacrifice and patriotism of the sons and daughters of this land deserve our veneration and utmost respect.

We are a liberation nation, a freedom nation and warrior nation and a God-fearing nation.

No country in the world has prospered and will ever prosper without a strong disciplined, progressive, well resourced, well paid, well fed and patriotic uniformed force behind it.

Even prior to our independence, the success of pre-colonial African states depended largely upon strong military support.

There are many examples in Africa and even in ZIMBABWE , the Mutapa State, the Rozvi Dynasty, the Zulu State, the Ndebele State and the Mandinka empire in WestAfrica (under Mansa Sundiata Keita, who founded the empire), to mention a few.

Whereas the courts are the guardians and guarantors of justice and rule of law, our security forces are the guarantors of our sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, citizens dignity, freedoms and liberty.

As our security forces you are the protectors and defenders of our safety and security.

As the uniformed force you are the protector of our resources, protector of our heritage, protector of independence, protector of the citizens, protector of our people and indeed protectors of our sovereignty and dignity as a people.

We recognize and cherish this important role you have played and continue to play.

You do this for the benefit of your beloved country and not for the benefit of a political leader or individual politicians. Politicians come and go, serve and leave – but you are a permanent citizens’ institution. You are patriots. Patriotism is non-partisan.

As citizens coalesce for Change, we affirm our respect and honour to you our national pride. We salute you as one of our national institutions, a people’s institution – a Citizens’ institution.

And as patriotic men and women, you have volunteered to play a patriotic role in national identity, growth and self determination.

We are aware of your challenges, circumstances and predicament in resources, livelihoods and welfare.

Nonetheless, as the citizens coalesce for change throughout the country, we commit to you that we will respect you and honour you for volunteering to serve us.

We will honour and respect you by shaming and condemning those who seek to undermine the great you have been for our great country.

We will honour and respect you by advocating and providing decent wages and living conditions commensurate with the pivotal and vital role you play and responsibilities you bear.

Above all, we will advocate that you have a fair share of our resources, decent housing and title deeds .

We will honour and respect you by condemning the unnecessary, unwarranted and unmerited purging or discrimination on tribal and patronage basis at the expense of merit and service.

Most importantly, at an individual level you are part and parcel of the citizens. You are eminent citizens.

As we coalesce for this historic change, we do so with you as citizens and together with your grandfathers, grandmothers, fathers, mothers, children, nieces, nephews, grand children and all relatives scattered around the country.

We do so above all with you as the protectors and guarantors of citizens Freedoms.

Right to free speech, Right to freedom of association, including political association. No one should ever be imprisoned or persecuted for holding a different political viewpoint or for telling truth to power. On that I call for the cessation of hostilities and an immediate release of all victims of political persecution.

We promise and commit that we will work well with you for the transformation, betterment and development of our great country as we build our great nation.

The CITIZENS’ GOVERNMENT will be a patriotic government. The Citizens’ government will not only push for a robust accelerated economic development but will also invest in security of nation.

Rest assured, the future Government of Zimbabwe will not go back on the values for which our veterans sacrificed. Values of Right to Self Deternination, Right to Vote, Rights to our mineral wealth, rights to land – With Title Deeds.

As the Citizens’ Government, with will stand shoulder to shoulder with our heroes in the service of this great nation, And rest assured, there is no reversal of the land acquisition,

Our Citizens’ army must and shall be the strongest and well resourced army in the region. Every Zimbabwean must feel protected and be assured to be defended. We will put money and invest in our security -citizens’ security.

I salute you and the people of Zimbabwe who gave their children, their brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, uncles and aunts to liberate and protect this great nation.

Let us build and work together for a better and prosperous Zimbabwe.

God bless our Defence and Security Forces!

Nelson Chamisa, Change Champion.

ZimStat Yet To Pay Census Enumerators

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Statistical Agency (ZIMSTAT) is yet to pay enumerators who participated in the 2022 national housing and population census.

The census was conducted in the second half of April and ZIMSTAT has already released preliminary results of the census but has failed to pay enumerators their allowances.

The enumerators, most of them teachers, feel they have been short-changed by ZIMSTAT. Speaking to NewsDay on condition of anonymity, a teacher from Chitungwiza said:

We have not received the allowances that we signed for when we were engaged by ZIMSTAT for the enumeration process.

Back then, the interbank rate was just below $150 to US$1, but imagine what the amount would be if the payment is done now at that rate.

We only received allowances for training. But they have already announced the census results before paying us, imagine. They have completely forgotten us.

ZIMSTAT public relations executive Roland Chiringa confirmed that the enumerators have not been paid. He said:

The enumerators have been given part payment for the exercise. It is true, but for now, I cannot give you detailed information on how they will be paid because I am not on duty.

Tsenengamu Warns Zanu Pf Youths

By A Correspondent- Former ZANU PF Youth League political commissar Godfrey Tsenengamu says his erstwhile colleagues are being given false hope by the party’s senior leadership.

Tsenengamu, who now leads the Front for Economic Emancipation in Zimbabwe (FEEZ), said top ZANU PF leaders don’t care about youths’ well-being and are only concerned with giving their children and girlfriends economic opportunities.

He posted on Facebook:

Muri kupiwa false hope nguva ichipera (you are wasting time holding onto false hope).

It is sad that you vote for them into government assuming that they will use that mandate to represent you, empower and create opportunities for you when all they need is that power to defend and protect their economic interests and investments.

They also want to use that power to take away opportunities from you and give them to their children and girlfriends and also use that power to deal with you when you threaten their bread and butter.

To worsen matters, you have no strong and principled youth leadership to represent you even in your party but a bunch of bootlickers, praise-singers and parrots.

Tsenengamu was expelled from ZANU PF in March 2020 following his suspension the previous month for alleging that top allies of President Emmerson Mnangagwa including Kuda Tagwirei, had captured State institutions and were running cartels.

He had made the allegations together with the then deputy youth secretary Lewis Matutu during a press conference.

While Matutu was spared the axe by the Politburo, Tsenengamu was fired after he refused to apologise and undergo ideological reorientation.

Govt Creates “Teachers For ED” | ARE YOU JOINING?

PRESS STATEMENT

Having noted with great concern , politicians working in cahoots with Ministry officials to introduce a political creature disguised as Trs 4 ED We urge the teachers to disregard , dissaprove and dismiss the abuse of the teacher through the commiserate schemes played by the regime under the guise of such schemes as “Teachers for Economic Development.”

Like any other worker and progression, teachers should be left free and distant from partisan politics and if they choose to be involved let it be voluntary and outside workbounds. The constitution of Zimbabwe under section 64 and 65 clearly makes a demand for good administrative conduct and that means administrative conduct that free from political intrusion.

The regime has developed a tendency of abusing the education sector over the years. It began with forcing pupils to rallies, using school buses to ferry supporters and school grounds for rallies again. This in and of itself is an abrogation of law and principle which we should stand firm against.

We shall not condone the exploitation of the education sector in doing Zanu PF ‘s commiserate work. The independence and freedom of the teacher should be respected.

What boggles the mind is that the very same system that has created poverty, misery and demeaned our profession is now coming back under the banner of Trs 4 ED .

It is clear that our employer has the means to pay us a living and decent wage that we deserve. We can’t be expected to live on dog’s tax disguised as a salary and then allow the same the same source of problem try to come in dark garments of Trs 4ED pretending to have solutions of our suffering yet we know that their interest is mainly to harvest as little votes as they can from the education sector.

Kasukuwere Confronts Mnangagwa
