Villagers Search For Missing Headman

A BINGA headman has gone missing after taking a three-day walk from his home in Sichutumba to Sianzyundu to visit his relatives to help resolve a social problem.

Sianzyundu and Sichutumba villagers are searching for the old man whose age could not be established.

Headman Dickson Siabwizu Mudenda from Binga South is said to have walked to and from Sianzyundu  because of serious transport challenges.

“The old man, who is a headman, decided to walk to Sianzyundu due to transport problems.  It is reported that he arrived well at Siyanzyundu.  On his way back no one knows what happened to him as he has gone missing,” a villager told Southern Eye.

“It is now the seventh day since he left Sianzyundu,” he said.

Villagers said the missing headman was supposed to have returned on April 9.

“Relatives, who lived with him, are now worried and wondering what could have happened to the headman. Mudenda is shortsighted and villagers now fear that he could have taken a wrong route resulting in him getting lost,” the villager said.

Chief Dobola yesterday told Southern Eye that he received a messages, saying the missing headman was found at Kariangwe, but he still needed to confirm whether it was true or not.

“I got a message that he has been found at Kariangwe, but I am yet to check the authenticity of the message,” chief Dobola said.

Binga is among some of the country’s most underdeveloped areas with a poor road network and serious access to water challenges despite government promises to develop the area.  This has resulted in the mushrooming of several non-governmental organisations in the district.

Simeone Attacks Manchester City Boss

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has blasted his Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola’s evaluation of his side following their Champions League quarterfinal clash.

Guardiola apparently gave a warm praise to Madrid’s performance in the second half of their 0-0 draw on Wednesday but Simeone felt the City boss was looking down at his team.

The result saw the EPL side reaching the semifinals 1-0 on aggregate.

“I don’t have to give an opinion, whether someone speaks well of us or not,” Simeone told reporters.

“A lot of the time, those people who have a large vocabulary, who are very intelligent, they show contempt in their praise.

“But although we might not have such large vocabularies we are not that stupid.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Teacher Sued For Cutting Off ECD Pupil’s Hair

A Bulawayo-based family is indignant after their four-year-old daughter’s hair was shaved off at pre-school on 18 February this year under unclear circumstances.

The family eventually took the matter to court after they failed to resolve the issue amicably with the teacher responsible.

ZBC News reported sources as saying the matter was dismissed on lack of merit. Said the ECD learner’s parent:

I contacted the teacher on the very night on a Friday, however, she did not respond. I even called her and that is when she answered and said she was busy.

I contacted the school head, who said we should sit down and discuss the issue.

All l wanted was to find out what happened to my baby and if her hair was cut the braid would still be at school.

The teacher, through her lawyer, has written to the four-year-old girl’s mother threatening to file a defamation lawsuit at the High Court.

When contacted for comment by ZBC News, the school Head, Mavis Mlilo professed ignorance over the matter. She said:

I do not know anything about that l was not there. Well, l cannot comment on that; l am just a school head. Listen, go and get answers from the parents who told you.

Herald Columnist Agrees With President Chamisa

A Herald newspaper columnist, has written in agreeing with CCC President Nelson Chamisa on a list of latest issues.

Writing on his micro blog, Reason Wafawarowa said Chamisa is right on refusing a government of national unity with Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Wafawarova said, any talks about a GNU is a deliberate divide and rule tactic to sabotage Chamisa.

Below is his full post:

I totally agree with Nelson Chamisa on three issues he raised. Number one there is no crisis nor need other than power retention that warrants suggestions for talks about a GNU leading to the postponement of Election 2023.

Whoever is pushing for that is most likely scared of the possible election result, and such fear is very undemocratic and cannot be sympathised with in a democracy.

Being no stranger to the intricacies of Zimbabwean intelligence, I can also warn that any talks about a GNU can be a deliberate divide and rule tactic to repeat what the Senate reintroduction did to Tsvangirai’s MDC in 2005. There would be willing takers within the CCC its hoped, and that could possibly grow rifts in the rising party, and perhaps division or a split.

If that does not work maybe doing a puppet GNU with the MDC T might be considered as a good reason to postpone elections, again hoping opportunists will jump over to the MDC T for perks.

Number two, there has to be deliberate preparation for a free and fair election. This means independence of ZEC must be assuring. It means all parties must denounce and do away with polarising politics. It means violence of any nature at any level or juncture must be arrested and dealt with in a fair and unbiased manner.

It means integrity of ZEC becomes mutually indisputable across the competing parties.

It also means losers accept the election verdict as announced, or if they don’t, they express so in a legal way, not by Trump like political utterances that are not backed by statistical facts.

Thirdly I agree that only the winning party after the 2023 election can foster a Government of National Unity by bringing on board all progressive thinking and able leaders and technocrats from across the spectrum of our society, be it political, economic, diplomatic or otherwise.

Elvis Nyathi’s Mum Speaks

State Media-The mother of a Zimbabwean national Elvis Nyathi who was killed by a vigilante group in South Africa yesterday said it will be difficult to find closure following the manner her son was murdered.
Nyathi (41) was callously killed by a vigilante group in Diesploot on Wednesday night last week. They viciously beat him and later necklaced him with an old tyre before setting it alight. He was burnt beyond recognition. No arrests have been made so far.

Nyathi whose remains arrive today in the country will be laid to rest at Mvutshwa Cemetery tomorrow after a church service at Brethren in Christ Church in New Lobengula. President Mnangagwa accorded Nyathi a State-assisted funeral.

Speaking to Chronicle last night in Nkulumane 12 where mourners are gathered, the late Nyathi’s mother Ms Sithembile Sibanda yesterday said it will take her a very long time to find closure, if ever, on the tragic event.

“I don’t know why they killed my son. Elvis just wanted to fend for his family and was doing so legally. Now my son is no more and I won’t even be able to see his body yet he left Zimbabwe alive. He has left behind three little kids and a wife. What did I do to deserve this?” said a visibly distraught Ms Sibanda.

She thanked the President for the State-assisted funeral.“We are very grateful to the President for what he has done for us. It takes a huge load from our shoulders,” said Ms Sibanda.

In South Africa a moving funeral service was held at the Underground Hillbrow Theatre yesterday where speaker after speaker tore into the militant Operation Dudula leader Nhlanhla Lux, who is believed to have incited a section of South Africans to turn against migrants claiming that they were taking their jobs and also involved in criminal activities.

A representative of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) said they did not believe that a black African in South Africa was a foreigner.

“The real foreigners are the whites but the likes of Nhlanhla Lux are failing to confront them, instead they run after a mere gardener,” said the representative who was clad in EFF regalia.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Mphathi Ndlovu, a cousin to the late Nyathi, said as a family they were deeply saddened by the demise of their kin.

“We are not a vengeful family but we are saddened, Elvis was a man of peace, a simple guy, leaving a simple life. We do not believe that this was done by the generality of South Africans but it’s just an act of a single individual who must somehow be dealt with,” said Ndlovu.

Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr. Misheck Sibanda announced that the President had granted a State-assisted funeral to Nyathi.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said Nyathi’s killing was worse than what the apartheid regime did, describing it as immoral, racist, and criminal.

He said South Africa should be home to everyone as enshrined in the Freedom Charter in 1955, whose principles were incorporated in the South African constitution which declared that South Africa belongs to all who live in it as it sought to create a society free from ethnic chauvinism, tribalism, racism, and sexism.

Meanwhile, the Council for Churches in Africa (CCA) welcomed Government’s decision to accord Nyathi a State-assisted funeral.

It said President Mnangagwa’s decision was a true definition of contemporary leadership that Africa needs and a signal of caring Governments.

In a statement, CCA said the assistance has come as a relief to the families, relatives, friends, and other authorities who had faced difficulties in the repatriation of the late Nyathi’s remains.

“As indigenous churches’ representative body in the African continent, we urge all our affiliate churches and partners to assist the Governments from which we operate, so that their duties and services to the citizens will be realised.

Zimbabwean Government set a good example by extending such a gesture during this period when the bereaved need assistance,” said the CCA.

The continental churches’ organisation condemned the attack on fellow African brothers and sisters which is against the principles and values of Ubuntu which indigenous churches have advocated since time immemorial.

“Africa needs to unite in the same spirit that churches endeavor to bridge the gaps of divisions, and as CCA’s department of Regional Justice, Peace and Conflict Resolution Affairs, we will strive to use the resources that we have in making sure that peace will become a reality in some sections rather than rhetoric.

“ We also seek to remove the narratives which seek to divide our indigenous churches in preaching peace. Hate speech and violence remain the major problems in Africa and as churches, we will strive to preach peace and craft initiatives that seek to unite than divide,” said CCA.- Chronicle

A Rusape man, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison for having sexual relations with a minor, has started a church while serving his sentence at Harare Central Prison.

Robson Bonde (32), told H-Metro that his imprisonment opened a way for him to repent and transform his life for the better.

Bonde, who was convicted five years ago, said he has since acquired a certificate in Theology and a Class 3 carpentry certificate while in prison. He said:

I started my own church here called ‘New Word of God Apostolic Church’ and I have quite a number of followers. I hope when I get out I will be able to continue with the ministry.

In this prison I believe I have gained more than I lost, I became a Christian in this place and even studied theology, now I am a pastor.

Bonde is one of the inmates who have benefitted from the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service education programme. He added:

When I was in Rusape, my hometown, I was uneducated, so here I studied my Grade One to Seven, and I began my carpentry course.

I know that when I go back home I have somewhere to start my life, which will be better than before my conviction.

Cop Ex-Lover Scandal Cleared

Commissioner, Erasmus Makodza was today acquitted of charges of concealing a transaction from a principal after the court noted that he did not participate in the joint venture agreement entered between the police and his former lover, Maonei Chapfudza, to undertake farming activities at its farm in Mashonaland East province during the time he was in charge of the province.

Erasmus Makodza

Harare magistrate Mr Noel Mupeiwa cleared Comm Makodza after a full trial.

The court said that the State failed to prove that Comm Makodza benefitted from the proceeds of farming activities that were being undertaken by his former lover at the police farm.

Mr Mupeiwa also said that the State failed to show how Comm Makodza influenced or pressured his juniors to award his former lover an opportunity to undertake projects at the Marondera farm. -Herald

Mnangagwa To Force People To Use Zim Dollar

Emmerson Mnangagwa has warned industrialists against wanton price increases, indicating that his Government is currently drafting a raft of measures that will promote the use of the local currency over the US dollar.

Zimdollar_new bundle – file copy

Addressing thousands of Zanu PF supporters in Muzvezve constituency yesterday, President Mnangagwa said the country’s currency has been under sustained attacks from Western countries since they imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe at the turn of the millennium, a situation that led to the adoption of multiple currencies after the Zimbabwe dollar had lost value.

Rent-seeking behaviour among businesses and market speculation has had the resultant effect of pushing prices up, well above the means of the majority.

However, with a new world order emerging in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine conflict that could result in the international adoption of another currency besides the greenback, this is a promising prospect for countries like Zimbabwe which have been at the mercy of powerful Western nations and manipulative businesses.

Buoyed by developments in international markets, President Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe is now set to use it’s local currency as the major medium of trade.

On the issue of price increases, we used to have our own dollar. When we were sanctioned, our country’s currency was attacked by Western countries who have powers in terms of controlling money.

“The money lost it’s value and we adopted the US dollar which we have since left behind. Now they (the Western world) have met their match in (Russian President Vladimir) Putin who is demanding payments for gas and oil in (the Russian currency) roubles instead of the US dollar that has governed global trade for the past 60 years,” he said.

“Russia is a big country whose economy affects the world economy, there is now a new world order that includes Russia and China.”

Zimbabwe, President Mnangagwa said, will soon make it mandatory for businesses to trade in local currency as opposed to the US dollar.

“We are saying to our industrialists such as Innscor, that any investor who comes into the country should buy whatever he wants in Zimbabwe dollars.

“We are putting measures to make sure that we deal once and for all with companies that are manipulating the local currency.

“We also have locals who are indiscriminately raising prices, punishing the people but we are going to put measures that will ensure that our currency will be sought after and that the US dollar doesn’t dominate.”

The President, who was accompanied by his deputy Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, Cabinet Ministers and senior Government officials, said food security is key to peace and security, hence his Government came up with policies to climate-proof Agriculture so as to ensure bountiful harvests regardless of changing rainfall patterns caused by climate change.

Speaking to communities around Rio-Zim in Kadoma, President Mnangagwa said his Government has heard their concerns and has engaged the mining giant to take measures that will improve the lives and livelihoods of communities affected by their activities.

“We heard your concerns that there is blasting that is disturbing the people around the mine, and that some houses have since developed cracks.

“I asked the mine owners why they are employing people from outside, and I ordered them to make sure that any job that arises from now onwards should benefit the people here. I also told them to have a meeting with the leadership and engage them.

“The Zanu PF leadership should lay out their demands and those challenges should be addressed.

“I told them to build new homes for the affected families, especially for those close to areas where blasting is taking place. They also promised to drill boreholes and ensure that every family has access to water.

“I will be coming back here twice a year to monitor what they are doing. We want development but that development should not adversely affect communities,” he said.

With today being Good Friday, President Mnangagwa called for safety on the roads, peace and the observance of Covid-19 protocols notwithstanding the lifting of a ban on public gatherings. -Herald

Facts About Air Quality

Almost the entire global population (99%) breathes air that exceeds WHO air quality limits, and threatens their health.

A record number of over 6000 cities in 117 countries are now monitoring air quality, but the people living in them are still breathing unhealthy levels of fine particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide, with people in low and middle-income countries suffering the highest exposures.

The findings have prompted the World Health Organization to highlight the importance of curbing fossil fuel use and taking other tangible steps to reduce air pollution levels.

Released in the lead-up to World Health Day, which this year celebrates the theme Our planet, our health, the 2022 update of the World Health Organization’s air quality database introduces, for the first time, ground measurements of annual mean concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO2), a common urban pollutant and precursor of particulate matter and ozone. It also includes measurements of particulate matter with diameters equal or smaller than 10 μm (PM10) or 2.5 μm (PM2.5).

Both groups of pollutants originate mainly from human activities related to fossil fuel combustion.

The new air quality database is the most extensive yet in its coverage of air pollution exposure on the ground.

Some 2,000 more cities/human settlements are now recording ground monitoring data for particulate matter – PM10 and/or PM2.5 – than the last update. This marks an almost 6-fold rise in reporting since the database was launched in 2011.

Meanwhile, the evidence base for the damage air pollution does to the human body has been growing rapidly and points to significant harm caused by even low levels of many air pollutants.

Particulate matter, especially PM2.5, is capable of penetrating deep into the lungs and entering the bloodstream, causing cardiovascular, cerebrovascular (stroke) and respiratory impacts.

There is emerging evidence that particulate matter impacts other organs and causes other diseases as well.

NO2 is associated with respiratory diseases, particularly asthma, leading to respiratory symptoms (such as coughing, wheezing or difficulty breathing), hospital admissions and visits to emergency rooms

WHO last year revised its Air Quality Guidelines, making them more stringent in an effort to help countries better evaluate the healthiness of their own air.

“Current energy concerns highlight the importance of speeding up the transition to cleaner, healthier energy systems,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “High fossil fuel prices, energy security, and the urgency of addressing the twin health challenges of air pollution and climate change, underscore the pressing need to move faster towards a world that is much less dependent on fossil fuels.”

Steps governments can take to improve air quality and health
A number of governments are taking steps to improve air quality, but WHO is calling for a rapid intensification of actions to:

adopt or revise and implement national air quality standards according to the latest

WHO Air Quality Guidelines;
monitor air quality and identify sources of air pollution;
support the transition to exclusive use of clean household energy for cooking, heating and lighting;
build safe and affordable public transport systems and pedestrian- and cycle-friendly networks;
implement stricter vehicle emissions and efficiency standards; and enforce mandatory inspection and maintenance for vehicles;
invest in energy-efficient housing and power generation;
improve industry and municipal waste management;
reduce agricultural waste incineration, forest fires and certain agro-forestry activities (e.g. charcoal production); and
include air pollution in curricula for health professionals and providing tools for the health sector to engage.

WHO’s Air Quality Guidelines

The evidence base for the harm caused by air pollution has been growing rapidly and points to significant harm caused by even low levels of many air pollutants. Last year, the WHO responded by revising its Air Quality Guidelines to reflect the evidence, making them more stringent, especially for PM and NO2, a move strongly supported by the health community, medical associations and patient organizations.

The 2022 database aims to monitor the state of the world’s air and feeds into progress tracking of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Police Block ZAPU March

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has blocked ZAPU from marching to Munhumutapa government offices in Harare in protest over the brutal murder of Zimbabwean national, Elvis Nyathi, in South Africa last week.

The Munhumutapa Building also houses President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s offices.

ZAPU wrote a letter to the Officer Commanding Harare on Monday, notifying them of the planned demonstration.

ZAPU Secretary-General Mthulisi Hanana told CITE that one of the reasons cited by the police in banning the planned protest at the Munhumutapa Building was that the march would endanger national security. Said Hanana:

The following are the grounds for the rejection. One, the police said our application does not meet the seven-day notice.

Two, police said Munhumutapa Building is a very sensitive and highly protected place to entertain such a demonstration.

Three, police said demonstrations within the CBD area are banned until further notice.

As a party, we are going to be finding means to protest against the direction the country is taking under ZANU, we cannot be misruled comfortably.

This march has been viewed as a threat to national security. We will amend and fight on.

ZAPU blames the ZANU PF-led Government for the economic challenges that have forced millions of Zimbabweans to leave the country over the years.- CITE

Chamisa Restructures

By-The Nelson Chamisa led CCC said it was now focusing on building its structures ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections.

Speaking in an interview with NewsDay on Wednesday, Chamisa called on the party’s newly-elected legislators and Councillors to do what they were elected for.

Said Chamisa:

Now that the by-elections are over and we have made our political statement, over the next few months, we will be focusing on building our party structures across the country and building robust leadership machinery that will take us through to the 2023 elections.

We urge those who have been elected to carry out their mandates with the seriousness they deserve.

CCC won 19 out of the 28 contested National Assembly seats, with the rest going to ZANU PF.

Chamisa admitted that the opposition has performed poorly in rural areas in recent elections but said it’s “a myth” that rural areas are ZANU PF strongholds. He said:

I know that while we performed well in urban areas, there are concerns over the rural areas.

We are going to work hard over the next months to enhance our fortunes countrywide and our performance at the next elections. It is a myth that rural areas belong to ZANU PF.

We know it is a myth because we have won in various provinces with many rural constituencies before and we are going to win again.

We are committed to building a stronger and mutually enriching relationship with citizens in rural areas just as we have established a long-lasting relationship with the urban communities.

Chamisa said it is the responsibility of every CCC member and supporter to mobilise and build the party.

Marry Mubaiwa Fined ZWL$60 000 For Marriage Fraud

VICE President Constantino Chiwenga’s estranged wife, Marry Mubaiwa has been slapped with a ZWL$60 000 fine or six months imprisonment for contravening the Marriage Act.

This comes after the former second lady was found guilty of marriage fraud.

Marry attempted to solemnise her marriage to Chiwenga without his consent while he was hospitalised in India.

12 months were wholly suspended on condition of good behaviour.

In handing down the sentence Harare Magistrate Lazini Ncube said her ill health did not allow her to go to jail nor do community service and deserves a second chance as a first time offender.

He said: “The accused is not in good healthy as she is always seen with an aid. The accused is a first offender. The accused will not cause harm to society. She deserves a second chance.

“Community service for her won’t work because of her health.”

ZEC Threatens Civic Groups, Opposition Parties

Civil society organisations and political parties must not give incentives for people to register as voters since that might entice those already on the voters roll to register multiple times resulting in a superficial false impression of the actual numbers, a senior official has said.

Presenting a paper titled, “Zimbabwe’s Electoral Challenges: Electoral Reforms, and 2023 Election Preparations”, to participants of the National Defence Course at the National Defence University in Harare yesterday, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission chairperson, Justice Priscilla Chigumba, said double registration had cost implications for the commission while also giving a false impression on the actual numbers on the voters roll.

“Civil society organisations and political parties were and are still being advised to desist from giving voter registration incentives as this may entice those already on the voters roll to register multiple times. Although multiple registrations are eventually picked up by the automated fingerprint identification system, the practice gives an outward false impression of the actual numbers registered and has some cost implications on the commission.”

Those intending to transfer from one voting station to another should inform the voter registration officer of their intention rather than register as new registrants. This is done when people move and need to transfer their registration to a new constituency and ward.

Justice Chigumba said ZEC was mandated to carry out its constitutional obligations without fear or favour contrary to claims from some civil society organisations and political parties that it was partisan.

“The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has a special place in our electoral democracy with its mandate to run the country’s elections. As a public institution, we are ready to dispense our duty without fear or favour,” she said.

Justice Chigumba said ZEC will welcome changes to the legal framework if they are progressive and as a result of a consultative process and are done within a reasonable time-frame to allow for implementation.

“As a commission, we believe in continuous improvement through capacity building and continuous stakeholder engagement. We have also submitted a number of proposals which seek to amend the law in various aspects and aimed at improving the electoral process in general. These details will be shared with you and other stakeholders at the opportune time,” she said.

You Are Welcome To Join CCC, Chamisa Tells Khupe

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has said former MDC-T leader Thokozani Khupe is free to join the party.

“You can’t stop someone who has come and said they want to be part of CCC. After all, this is a citizen initiative, this belongs to the people, we are working to change the nation for the better, not for CCC, but everyone, so even those in Zanu-PF who want to see change are welcome,” Chamisa said.

Speaking to NewsDay, days after addressing an internal party meeting in Bulawayo attended by Khupe, the opposition leader tried to calm supporters who were jittery over MDC members such as Khupe joining CCC.

Khupe, who was at the centre of decimating the MDC Alliance after recalling Chamisa’s parliamentarians and grabbing assets and funding from the party before being elbowed out by Douglas Mwonzora, has pledged allegiance to Chamisa, but CCC members view her with suspicion.

Wary of the threat posed by those who might be seeking to destroy CCC from within, Chamisa, said while everyone was free to be a member, the party would also define its membership and protect itself.

“Obviously, we will define our membership, we will protect from those who might want to harm the party, but its critical for everyone to understand that we are not about positions, but delivering change that will benefit not only us, but generations to come, this country needs a break, it needs new leadership and a breath of fresh air, this is our focus and not positions,” Chamisa said.

Chamisa said citizens were the guardians and vanguard of the party with the mandate to put people in leadership positions.

Commenting on the recent by-elections, Chamisa said: “Now that the by-elections are over and we have made our political statement, over the next few months, we will be focusing on building our party structures across the country and building a robust leadership machinery that will take us through to the 2023 elections. We urge those who have been elected to carry out their mandates with the seriousness they deserve.”

The CCC leader said it was a misconception that the opposition would traditionally fail to do well in rural areas.

“I know that while we performed well in urban areas, there are concerns over the rural areas. We are going to work hard over the next months to enhance our fortunes countrywide and our performance at the next elections. It is a myth that rural areas belong to Zanu-PF,” Chamisa added.

“We know it is a myth because we have won in various provinces with many rural constituencies before and we are going to win again. We are committed to building a stronger and mutually enriching relationship with citizens in rural areas just as we have established a long-lasting relationship with the urban communities.”

The opposition leader told his supporters that mobilising and building the party was everyone’s responsibility.

“Everyone is a change champion and must be responsible for mobilising at grassroot level, this movement is not about positions, it’s about delivering a new Zimbabwe, one that restores dignity to the people of this country,” Chamisa said.

Do Away With Top Of The Range Cars For Ministers, ED Told

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been advised to do away with the culture of splurging on top of the range vehicles for ministers and top bureaucrats and instead use the funds to develop the country.

The message came from opposition party, Alliance for the People’s Agenda (APA) in its independence message.

Zimbabwe commemorates 42 years of independence from British colonial bondage on Monday next week.

The party said government must instead save the money and use it to fund critical areas like education and health.

“We owe it to ourselves to start building an economy that can carry the weight of what we need in social services. We need to start cutting spending at the very top,” reads the statement.

“Our propensity for expensive cars must be stopped. By removing the need for personal cars for top servant leaders and politicians we can save the tax payers tonnes of money, money that can be used to resuscitate our schools and hospitals,” the party said.

“It is travesty of freedom and justice that top civil servants and politicians have brand new cars every 5 years while our teachers, schools, doctors, nurses and hospitals that serve the general population are literally closed. We are killing our people through greed. Where’s our shame?”

The independence commemorations come at a time the country’s economy is crumbling.

Decades of poor administration by successive Zanu-PF regimes have seen industries close, employment opportunities dwindling and standards of living extremely deteriorating.

“We have destroyed the foundations Rhodesians built. We have shown complete lack of creativity despite the abundance of natural wealth in our country. We have demonstrated an unparalleled expertise for corruption and mismanagement. The spending bug caught us very early. Smith was very frugal. His administration wasn’t as corrupt as any of the Zanu-PF administrations. The white population was united and worked for development of the country they were trying to develop,” APA said.

“What is clear is that we started spending money we didn’t have at a time we were assuming Rhodesia’s huge war time debt. It is not surprising that we dug ourselves into a huge hole. We started the irresponsible spending at a time when we were trying to expand the economic benefits to cover all 6 million black citizens from a mere 250 000 whites the Rhodesians were properly catering for. Clearly the economy could not cope with the increased load. As we look forward to independence day, let’s remember both the good and the bad that came with independence. It’s not all a bed of roses.”

Zimbabwean parliamentarians get top of the range vehicles each term while cabinet ministers and deputies get a selection of three high range, executive and expensive cars to use over their usually five year terms.

Zanu PF Accused Of Roping In Security Forces In Census Process

The involvement of members of the security sector in the upcoming population census has raised eyebrows, with observers describing it as a calculated move by the Zanu-PF government to manipulate the results ahead of the 2023 elections.

Government yesterday announced that members of the security sector, who include the police, soldiers and members of the Central Intelligence Organisation will be involved in the census together with other civil servants and Zanu-PF youths.

The 2022 population census, which is expected to run from April 21 to 30, 2022, will involve youths and security officers at the exclusion of teachers who have traditionally been recruited as enumerators, following their fallout with government over salaries.

“Cabinet wishes to inform the public that preparations for the 2022 population and housing census are on track, with levels one and two training having been completed in March 2022,” acting Information minister Mangaliso Ndhlovu said during a post-Cabinet media briefing on Tuesday.

“Cabinet highlights that the bulk of the personnel is drawn from the teaching fraternity, youth and other civil servants from the security sector.”

Zimbabwe Statistics Agency (ZimStats) spokesperson Mercy Chidemo did not disclose the number of security officers who had been recruited for the exercise, but curtly said they were “enough” to cover the cantonment areas.

“Members of the security forces were recruited to cover cantonments areas where civilian enumerators cannot enumerate for security reasons,” Chidemo said.

“Recruitment of security forces will not jeopardise the exercise as they are enumerating people in their barracks. (They are) enough to cover the cantonment areas.”

But analysts said the deployment of security officers as enumerators was tantamount to militarising the process which could threaten the accuracy of the census outcome.

Following the 2017 coup that ousted the late former President Robert Mugabe, concerns have been raised over involvement of the army in government institutions.

Serving and retired army officers have been deployed at roadblocks,  while some have been appointed to top posts  in key government institutions such as the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, the Health ministry and several others.

Human rights lawyer Alec Muchadehama bemoaned lack of transparency in the recruitment of enumerators, which he said raised suspicion of a sinister motive by the government.

“The recruitment should have been publicised and with consultation with the relevant stakeholders,” Muchadehama said. “Government was at loggerheads with teachers who are usually recruited as enumerators over the issue of salaries and it then scratched the majority of them off the census programme. In one way, the government is trying to buy loyalty from the security sector. There is no doubt that just like any other civil servants, the security forces know that their salaries are not enough  so when they are recruited they then get extra money from the programme, they will then remain loyal to the paymaster.”

Political analyst Effie Ncube said: “The militarisation of the census is as bad as the militarisation of the electoral process. This can only lead to rigged results. The militarisation also endangers democratic accountability as required by the Constitution as it will be difficult to bring the members of the security sector to account, given the circumstances.”

But constitutional lawyer  and National Constitutional Assembly party leader Lovemore Madhuku said there was nothing amiss about members of the security sector being involved in the census programme as they could carry out the duties just like any other civil servant.

“They are just like any other civil servants who are entitled to benefit from such programmes. World over, soldiers are also involved in such national exercises such as the census. Do we question involvement of soldiers in other social circles, say attending church services, for instance? In actual fact, involvement of soldiers could improve accountability of the whole process.”

Meanwhile, government has directed that tertiary education institutions be closed from April 18 to 30, 2022 during the duration of the census.

Government urged church members to be at their places of residence between April 18 and 30 to allow the smooth conduct of the census.

Mnangagwa Honours Elvis Nyathi, Gives Him State Assisted Funeral

By- The government has granted the late Elvis Mbhodazwe Nyathi a state-assisted funeral.

This was revealed by the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana on Wednesday evening.

Tweeted Mangwana:

His Excellency the President @edmnangagwa has granted the late slain compatriot #ElvisNyathi a State Assisted Funeral.

Nyathi was brutally murdered by a mob in Diepsloot, Johannesburg, South Africa on Wednesday night.

The now-deceased 43-year-old Zimbabwean was a gardener in Fourways and had a wife and four kids. He lived on Thubelihle Street, Diepsloot.

According to his family, Nyathi had just come home from work when a mob ran through his neighbourhood chasing a group of people, knocking on doors and asking for ID documents.

He was allegedly caught by the group who tied him up, assaulted him and set him on fire. Nyathi’s brother, Godknows, said:

My brother, his wife and others hid behind their shack and the group found them and started chasing them because they thought they were criminals.

We are hurt because my brother was not a criminal. I spoke to him yesterday when he was at work and after work, he came back home to Diepsloot and they killed him. My brother was a good person. He had a wife and four children.

All I can say to the community of Diepsloot is if they catch someone they need to investigate if this person is a criminal or not.

They can’t just catch someone and kill them because they will only find out in the end that this person was not a criminal and was innocent.

Zanu PF Strong-Holds Denounce Mnangagwa As Chamisa Goes Rural

By-Villagers in Maramba-Pfungwe, a traditional ZANU PF stronghold in Mashonaland East Province are unhappy with the slow progress in the rehabilitation of the Murewa-Madichecha road which began several years ago.

The villagers expressed their frustration over the lack of progress on the road during a visit to the area by the Transport and Infrastructure Development parliamentary portfolio committee.

A female villager told the Members of Parliament that the Government is ignoring the road which has resulted in the underdevelopment of the area. She said:

We thought by this time we would be enjoying travelling along this road like any other citizen.

The truth is nothing is being done at all to upgrade this Madichecha road. The bridges are a disaster.

Since 1980 when we attained independence there has been no meaningful road rehabilitation in this area.

We have been seeing contractors being dispatched here on the pretext of upgrading the road but there is no progress at all.

The villagers are asking why the government which they voted for is failing to honour them. We will remove the MPs from power thinking that they are failing.

But the truth is that the government is ignoring this road which is crucial to us.

Maramba-Pfungwe MP Tichaona Karimazondo (ZANU PF) told the parliamentarians that Madichecha road last got attention in 1990.

Transport Portfolio committee chairperson Oscar Gorerino said Government officials have been lying that progress is being made yet there is nothing on the ground. Said Gorerino:

The reports that we get in parliament from the Transport Ministry indicate that this bridge is completed, they lie to the President that there is positive progress on this road.

We have come here to witness it so that we see who is lying – the government officials or you the villagers.

We will see who is responsible for this delay, this is the same thing in Mukumbura, there is no progress at all as compared to the reports we get.

Headman Tsiga from Maramba Ward 16 urged the government to investigate the contractors and make them account for the disbursements.

ZAPU Confronts Zanu PF Over Elvis Nyathi Death

Mukuru Taken To Court For Hiring Foreign Employees

Financial services company Mukuru will have to revisit its employment policy after the Western Cape High Court lambasted it for ignoring South Africa’s employment laws in favor of hiring foreigners in positions South Africans can occupy.

Mukuru Group’s subsidiaries, Mukuru Financial Services (MFS) and Mukuru Africa (MA) unsuccessfully applied for a corporate visa to allow it to employ foreigners.

MFS wanted permission to hire 100 sales and support consultants, 10 controllers, and five call center team leaders, while MA applied for 10 customer service representatives, five agents supervisors, seven corridor champions, 10 number and verification officers, 10 regional sales supervisors, 20 verification officers, 23 information officers, and 10 area sales supervisors.

The essential academic requirement for all these posts was a Grade 12 or equivalent.

At the heart of the company’s argument was that it needed suitably qualified employees fluent in the indigenous languages of Zimbabwe, Malawi, and other “relevant” languages. The Mukuru group of companies uses financial technology solutions, including mobile phones and web-based technology to facilitate domestic and international money transfers, particularly across the African continent and parts of Asia.

The Department of Labour rejected the applications for the certificate on the basis that the skills were available in the country and that the foreign language requirement was discriminatory to local citizens.

The department found that MFS had a staff complement of 137 124, of whom 124 were foreigners while MA had a staff complement of 546, of whom 101 were foreigners.

Mukuru then turned to the courts for recourse. However, Judge Daniel Thulare dismissed Mukuru’s application to set aside the department’s decision.

“The applicants unfairly exclude South African citizens from employment opportunities in South Africa in favour of foreign nationals. In my view, this constituted unfair discrimination on grounds that included a race, ethnic or social origin, culture, language, and birth. This unfair discrimination resulted in the applicants being found wanting in respect of private sector development as a strategy of the developmental and transformative state.

“They failed to promote economic growth, which includes contributions by foreign nationals but also helps reduce poverty through deliberate actions to defeat the financial exclusion of the poor South African citizens,” the judgment reads.

For both general and corporate work visas, the benchmarking certificate recommendations must provide the following information:

  • That despite diligent search, the employer has been unable to find a suitable citizen or permanent resident with qualifications or skills and experience equivalent to those of the applicant;
  • The applicant has qualifications or proven skills and experience in line with the job offer; and
  • The salary and benefits of the applicant are not inferior to the average salary and benefits of citizens or permanent residents occupying similar positions in the republic.

Mukuru could not be reached for comment.

Marry Chiwenga Convicted Of Guvheya Misrepresentation

By A Correspondent | Marry Mubaiwa, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s estranged wife has been convicted for trying to upgrade the couple’s marriage while he was critically ill in India and unaware.

Mubaiwa was convicted after a full trial during which she denied the allegations arguing that they were in agreement with Chiwenga all the way.

The former model said she was secure in her marriage as such had no reason to forge wedding documents.

A total of 12 witnesses testified against her during the fast tracked trial which commenced last December.

Most of the witnesses said she never signed the marriage certificate.

But in convicting her Harare magistrate Lazini Ncube ruled that it is not in dispute that Chiwenga was too sick to be planning for a wedding.

The magistrate also said he found out that Chiwenga did not agree to the marriage upgrade as alleged by prosecutors.

The magistrate also said Mubaiwa misrepresented the facts to former judge president Justice George Chiweshe, well aware that her husband was in the dark.

“So if the complainant never consented to wed or have their marriage solemnised, can it be said the accused presented the correct statement to the first witness?

“It is my considered view that the accused made a false statement to the first witness who believed that there was consent from the complainant yet there was none. It is my considered view that there was overwhelming evidence against the accused person. The accused is therefore found guilty as charged,” Ncube ruled.

“False representation means presenting the facts which are not correct knowing that they are not correct,” he ruled.

Ncube said it is on record that Mubaiwa visited Chiweshe for him to facilitate the upgrade of the marriage.

“Justice Chiweshe decided to link her up with the second witness, Justice Munamato Mutevedzi (then chief magistrate) since Justice Chiweshe was not a marriage officer.

“It is therefore not in dispute that when she approached the first witness, it was for the purposes of having the marriage solemnised.”

The magistrate said all the evidence given by witnesses confirms that Mubaiwa had planned the wedding although it did not take place.

Mubaiwa had denied the allegations arguing that she had agreed with her husband to wed after the payment of lobola on July 2, 2011.

Mubaiwa further told court that she was with Chiwenga in India in 2019 where he was receiving medical treatment when they agreed that they would have a small wedding on 2nd of July 2019 if they were back home by then.

It was in her defence that when they were back in Zimbabwe, the jeweller came to their residence and measured their fingers.

It was also her evidence that when the complainant’s condition deteriorated, he was taken to South Africa for medical treatment and remained there beyond the 2nd of July 2019 and as a result the marriage could not take place.
Judgement is expected this Thursday.

Mnangagwa Gives Elvis Nyathi State Assisted Burial

Just as Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday accorded the South Africa slain Elvis Nyathi a state assisted burial, the man’s remains are set to be repatriated back home.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade said they are concerned with attacks on Zimbabweans in South Africa and will go through diplomatic channels to address the vice.

“We remain gravely concerned about the increase in the number of incidences of violence against our nationals in various parts of the host country, South Africa.

“Consultations with the host government will continue using the established diplomatic channels with a view to finding solutions to this devastating problem,” said the Ministry in a message posted on their Twitter handle.

Mr Nyathi’s brother – Godknows Nyathi is on record having said that his brother “was not a violent man, he was a very good person.”

South African-based funeral service-provider, Zororo-Phumulani powered by Doves says they will assist the Zimbabwe Consulate in South Africa to repatriate the remains of Mr Nyathi for free.

“We are at a loss of words about what happened in Diepsloot last Wednesday, what happened to Elvis is beyond human imagination,” said Zororo-Phumulani Managing Director, Mr Oliver Mufudze.-Herald

Abramovich Targets CF Valencia

Roman Abramovich will attempt to buy Spanish club Valencia once the sale of Chelsea is completed, according to another potential buyer for the Spanish club.

The Russian billionaire put the Blues up for sale last month after he was sanctioned by the UK Government.

Miguel Zorio, a Spanish businessman who is vying to buy Valencia with an €248m (£207.8m) bid, has claimed that Abramovich has also made an offer to takeover the La Liga club.

“Peter Lim (current owner of Valencia) has tried to sell the club in London for €250 million (£209.5m) and has not succeeded,“ Zorio said, as cited by Metro.co.uk.

“Lately, he has leaked to international media that he has two purchase offers, mine and that of the Russian oligarch of Chelsea.

“And from here, I tell him that either he puts €50 million every year to compensate for the losses he generates or he sells to us. Whether he likes it or not.”

Tinashe Sambiri| Citizens’ Coalition For Change leader President Nelson Chamisa has said there is a special package that will offered to veterans of the liberation struggle.

President Chamisa has also said pensioners deserve decent allowances.

In a statement on Wednesday, President Chamisa described POLAD as Mr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s pet project.

THE FOG HAS CLEARED IN ZIMBABWE

Advocate Nelson Chamisa

At the beginning of last year, I wrote an article in which I promised that “the fog will soon clear”.

That article appeared at a time when the movement was facing adverse circumstances. It was a message of reassurance to the millions of people who believed in us; people that had stood with us in times of great adversity. I knew that many of our supporters were anxious and worried. I wanted everyone to know that we were calm and still in control.

I was never in doubt that we would overcome the state-sponsored machinations against us. As a man of faith, I believed that the obstacles being placed in our way were merely testing our resolve and that we would come out stronger. As everyone now knows, the fog has now cleared.

Back in 2020, our movement became a target of a deliberate and systematic attack by the authoritarianism and tyranny. Our oppressors had realised that we were not for sale at any price. Their efforts to co-opt or neutralise us through vehicles like Mr Mnangagwa’s pet project Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) had failed.

It therefore created and supported a surrogate unit made up of old comrades who had turned rogue. This reactionary outfit, the ailing red party , was instrumentalised by the oppressors to drive us into extinction.

Operating in cahoots with each other, they went on a spree of firing our legitimately elected representatives in parliament and local authorities. They grabbed headquarters. The oppressors diverted our income under the political parties financing legislation, giving it to its surrogate. They even went after our name.

Although they misappropriated these material possessions, they did not realise that they were meaningless without the soul of the party. And the soul of the movement is vested in the citizens.

The best victories in war are won without fighting. They wanted a brawl over these things, but we chose peace and walked away. Some thought not fighting was a weakness on our part. They did not understand that we were playing the long game, rooted in the citizens. We were going to trust the court of public opinion.

On 24 January 2022, much to the surprise of our detractors, we delivered a new baby, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and in an instant, we painted the entire nation yellow.

What happened over the next few weeks is now part of historical legend and will be told in fireside tales for generations to come. We are grateful to the citizens for keeping the faith. Everywhere we went, we were greeted with great love and affection. It was as if this Citizens movement had been in existence for decades. It was and is a humbling experience.

If anyone was ever in doubt, the campaign rallies across the country confirmed that the fog had cleared. The surrogate organisation had been created to cause division and confusion. The oppressor wanted to create the impression that the opposition was divided. The aim was to suffocate and immobilise us.

Unfortunately, the gullible among us almost bought the ruse. We told them that the fog would clear, but while many understood us, some remained doubtful.

They were taken in by the false narratives that were already consigning us to the margins, suggesting that we were finished. They now know that they were fatally wrong.

The results of the just ended by-elections have put all those doubts to bed. We won 19 out of the 28 seats that were on offer. That’s 67,9% or more than two thirds majority of the available seats. We also won 75/120 of all the contested seats in local authorities. The outcome could not have been more emphatic and convincing. We won against all odds including under very controversial conduct and blatant partisanship by the ZEC.

Starting from nothing and operating on a shoe-string budget, we defeated and humiliated our older rivals. The by-elections were dubbed a mini-general election and we won that mini-general election in style.

The scale of our performance is best seen from the perspective that the surrogate party that the regime had promoted over the past 2 years at our expense got absolutely nothing in these by-elections. It did not win a single seat, indeed, not even a single polling station. This is a unit that had fired MPs and councillors claiming the seats belonged to it. But when the by-elections came, it got nothing. The by-elections confirmed the scale of its insignificance on the political landscape.

When I said the fog would soon clear, I meant that there would be no more confusion as to the state of the opposition. No serious observer of Zimbabwean politics can legitimately say today that the opposition is divided. Such a claim would be insincere. What is true is that there was an attempt to divide the opposition, but it ended in dismal failure. The citizens refused to be divided.

They had a clear choice in these by-elections between the CCC and ZANU PF. They chose the CCC and with that, made an emphatic political statement that clears any confusion.

However, we do not take this victory for granted. Neither will we bask in the glory of the victory and forget to draw lessons from the by-elections experience.

We learned a lot from the by-elections, not least the fact that we continue to operate in an authoritarian environment. We won the by-elections not because the election was free and fair but because by sheer force of will and faith, we overcame repressive and unfair conditions.

Our victory does not mean acceptance that elections have become free and fair, no or that we have full confidence in the elections referee, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, no. It fortifies our faith that even when faced with unfair impediments, it is still possible to overcome and succeed.

We will continue to fight for electoral reforms so that our elections can be free, fair and credible. The by-elections demonstrated severe weaknesses with the voters’ roll, which prevented many voters from exercising their right to vote as they were turned away at polling stations. We also witnessed the recurring problem of assisted voting, a facility that is abused to coerce citizens into voting against their wishes, especially in rural areas.

The regulatory authorities applied the law selectively, banning several of our rallies while allowing our competitors free passage. The Oppressor unleashed political violence which regrettably caused the death of one of our members, Mboneni Ncube and injuries to scores of citizens. The state broadcaster and newspapers continued with their biased approach in favour of the regime and against us. We saw the Zanupf party candidates engaging in vote buying which is contrary to the Electoral Law.

Despite this litany of unfair and repressive measures and practices, the will of the people prevailed. This is an important signal for the future, an indication that with the best will in the world, it is possible to overcome obstacles and succeed. However, at just 35% of the eligible voters, we also learned that the voter turnout was poor, and it may have cost us in the marginal seats. It goes without saying that to defeat authoritarianism, citizens must vote in large numbers, win big and defend the vote in large numbers. I know that by-elections traditionally draw fewer voters, but considering our circumstances, we do not have the luxury of ignoring elections. We must overcome voter apathy in 2023.

However, to be eligible to vote, citizens must register to vote. Therefore, the critical call right now is for citizens to go out and register to vote. I make this call especially to the young people of Zimbabwe. It is your future that is at stake but right now it is being decided by older generations. You cannot outsource decisions regarding your future to the older generations.

I know that young people complain that they do not have national Identity cards. Please use the opportunity that will be availed by the Registrar General’s national ID registration blitz. Voter registration itself is a continuous process, but there will be a mobile voter registration exercise in April. Please take advantage of it and make yourself eligible to vote in 2023.

I would like to thank everyone in the CCC who contributed to our success. There were many foot soldiers both at home and abroad. I was particularly pleased and humbled by the great fund-raising efforts both at home and in the Diaspora. To our Diaspora community, you may not be here with us physically, but your contributions to the struggle are making a huge footprint in our political landscape.

I was pleased to see that we fielded polling agents at all polling centres and that communities rallied around them, providing food and comfort during those many long hours keeping an eye on the process. With committed eyes and ears on the ground, our chances are enhanced.

I know that while we performed very well in urban areas, there are concerns over the rural areas. We are going to work very hard over the next months to enhance our fortunes countrywide and our performance at the next elections. It is a myth that rural areas belong to Zanupf . We know it is a myth because the we have won in various provinces with many rural constituencies before and we are going win again. We are committed to building a stronger and mutually enriching relationship with citizens in rural areas just as we have established a long-lasting relationship with the urban communities.

Now that the by-elections are over and we have made our political statement, over the next few months we will be focusing on building our party structures across the country and building a robust leadership machinery that will take us through to the 2023 elections. We commend those who have been elected to carry out their mandates with the seriousness they deserve. The citizens have corrected the democratic anomaly that was caused by the Oppressors and their surrogates over the past 2 years. Our mantra is Citizens at the centre. Citizens first in everything, including policy making, law making and all decision making.

As a Citizens movement, the coaches of our train are many and open to everyone. There is no first class or economy class. We have no chefs. Everyone is equal. We have space for the young and elderly, for workers, farmers, artisanal miners, and big business. There is room for veterans of all struggles, those who fought valiantly to establish nationhood, those who defended national interests in Mozambique and those who carried out regional mandate in the DRC.

They and our pensioners who serve the country with distinction should not be living in poverty. We as a Citizens movement (CCC) have a comprehensive package for them.

I said the fog would clear and now it has. However, the fact that the fog has cleared is not the end. We can now see more clearly where we want to go. With the pretenders out of the way, we must now work hard to make sure that we deliver victory in 2023. The by-elections victory has demonstrated that even when the odds are against us, we can still prevail, and we are confident that we shall prevail.

We won this by-elections against all odds and we will seal our victory in 2023. We win in large numbers. Let’s do it. Let’s finish it. Let’s win big.CCC is the next government of Zimbabwe.

The Mutsvangwa’s Mourn Their Granddaughter

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | One of the simplest and most rewarding joys of life is to be a grandparent. Granddaughters are remarkable, delightful beings.

They are uniquely talented in that they can remind us of the innocence of childhood but lack all the frustration that our children gave us.

Granddaughters are a precious gift and a never-ending source of joy. The bundle of Joy is what Paida was.

“Our 10 year old granddaughter Paida was an Angel Soul, a genius mind and a heart beyond her tender age. We are totally heartbroken!“

Paida ran a race of life and her race was too short. Ten years looked like two days. It is the prayer of every grandparent to be buried by their grandchildren. It was never meant that grandparents draw parallel lines on their chicks in mourning their granddaughters.

Our parents give us life.
Our grandparents give us a sense of who we are and where we came from and granddaughters give us the sense of accomplishment.

Paida was our favourite hello and hardest goodbye.

Having a granddaughter in your life is one of life’s greatest treasure.
They have this uncanny ability to bring love and happiness to your every day even if they are miles away.
Just knowing that you are the lucky grandparent that gets to play such an important part in your grandchild’s life can bring a smile to your face. But the cruel thing ever to happen is when that grandchild is taken away. Like a flickering light blown off in the darkness. Our light has been switched off and our legs cut
Before Paida’s death ,we did not think we understood death – and my granddaughter lived a fine life, but she had the great misfortune of a painful death, and for that We will always be in pain. Paida did not want to die She had not lived her life to the full. Her life was cut short in a cruel manner. We were never given a time to sit down with Paida and tell her how much she had meant to us. We never got time to say goodbye and time to say thank you. She never got time to say goodbye to her parents and her friends.
Paida’s life, as short as it was she was fit, elegant, charismatic and full of vim.
Paida was always the granddaughter who was always happy. She was always chic. She was a granddaughter of whom we were immensely proud of because people always commented how young and gorgeous she looked.  But of course she was young.
As we said goodbye to our Granddaughter Paida it hit us how incredibly lucky we have been to have our lovely granddaughter with us for ten years.
Not only with us but an integral, close part of our lives.
It is rare for a grandparent-grandchild relationship to be so essential and so long-lasting, but then, Paida was that exceptional kind of person every single day of her life.
Until her last breadth our granddaughter had more energy and interest in life than anyone we’ve ever known.
My granddaughter was an incredible child. Really, she was the regal leader in our family.
She was so much a part of who we are, we never thought that she would one day leave us, we can’t quite believe she is gone.
Paida you impacted our lives in so many ways.
You shaped us and taught us how to love and to be patient. You influenced all of us so greatly.
We will always love you and save a special corner of our heart to keep you with us.
And we know we will miss you every day of our lives.
We know that when Christ comes again we will meet in the skies and be together never to part.
We long for that world called heaven where we will never die.
Till we meet again.

Real Madrid Overcome Chelsea

Real Madrid booked their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League after beating Chelsea 5-4 on aggregate.

Thomas Tuchel’s side started on the front foot and took the lead through Mason Mount’s strike after 15 minutes. Chelsea continued to dominate and they doubled their lead in the 51st minute when Antonio Rudiger headed Mount’s corner past Thibaut Courtois.

Real Madrid continued to struggle and found themselves 3-0 down as Timo Werner’s strike took a slight deflection off Courtois. Rodrygo entered the pitch to replace Casemiro in the 78th minute and the Brazilian forward made an instant impact just two minutes later. Luka Modric found him with a superb ball with the outside of his foot and Rodrygo sidefooted it past Edouard Mendy.

With the score tied 4-4 on aggregate, the game headed into extra time. The hosts went ahead in the 96th minute thanks to Karim Benzema’s fourth goal of the tie to take his side into the last four.

The 13-time champions will play Manchester City or Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals.- The Athletic

Chamisa Welcomes Khupe

CITIZENS Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has said former MDC-T leader Thokozani Khupe is free to join the party.

Thokozani Khupe

“You can’t stop someone who has come and said they want to be part of CCC. After all, this is a citizen initiative, this belongs to the people, we are working to change the nation for the better, not for CCC, but everyone, so even those in Zanu PF who want to see change are welcome,” Chamisa said.

It is a myth that rural areas belong to Zanu PF,” Chamisa added.

-Newsday

ZIMSEC wishes to acknowledge the commitment of our examiners, the support given by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, the Ministry of Health and Child Care and our parent Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and indeed our ZIMSEC Staff.

We are therefore excited that we are releasing the results earlier than was the case for the 2020 results which were released on 3 May 2021.

We are also grateful to God that as we continue to see an improvement in the COVID-19 pandemic situation, it may point to the fact that we may soon return to normalcy.

Entry and Pass rates
A total of 249 914 candidates sat for the November 2021 examinations as compared to 264 099 candidates who sat for the same examinations in 2020.

There was a decrease in candidature of 14 185, thus translating to a percentage decrease of 5.37%.

In 2021, a total of 163 179 candidates wrote 5 or more subjects and 42 985 passed 5 or more subjects with a grade C or better giving an overall percentage pass rate of 26.34%.

As compared to 2020, where a total of 184 249 candidates wrote 5 or more subjects and 45 644 passed 5 or more subjects with a grade of C or better giving an overall percentage pass rate of 24.77%.

The statistics show that the 2021 pass rate increased by 1.57% from 2020. However, this pass rate is still lower than that of 2019, a year that had a normal school calendar. The pass rate in 2019 was 31.6%.

ZIMSEC attributes the improvement in the pass rate to the longer school calendar and also the learning strategies that were introduced by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

The performance of candidates was analysed in the following categories: School candidates; Private candidates; Female candidates; Male candidates; and Special Needs candidates.

School Candidates
School candidates who wrote five or more subjects were 148 005 and 40 473 obtained Grade C or better in 5 or more subjects, yielding a 27.35% pass rate.

As compared to 2020, where candidates who wrote five or more subjects were 168 272 and 43 244 obtained Grade C or better in 5 or more subjects, yielding a 25.7% pass rate.

This shows that the 2021 pass rate for school candidates increased by 1.65%.

Private candidates
Private candidates who wrote 5 or more subjects were 15 174 and 2 512 obtained Grade C or better in 5 or more subjects, which also translates to a pass rate of 16.55%.

As compared to 2020, where Private candidates who wrote 5 or more subjects were 15 977 and 2 403 obtained Grade C or better in 5 or more subjects, translating to a percentage pass rate of 15.04.

Zanu PF MPs Block Biti From Addressing Parliament

By-Zanu PF legislators have blocked Harare East legislator Tendai Biti (CCC) from contributing to a motion under discussion in the National Assembly.

Biti was trying to make a contribution on the importance of gold reserves to Zimbabwe’s economy when ZANU PF legislators drowned his contribution by booing and heckling him. They shouted in one accord:

Gara pasi. Hautaure chinhu muno. Wakaunza masanctions muZimbabwe and now you want to lecture us. Gara pasi iwe (Take your seat, you are the one who brought economic sanctions on Zimbabwe through your western friends. We are not going to let you speak about our economy. Sit down).

ZANU PF accuses Biti and other CCC senior members of begging Western countries to impose economic sanctions on the country.

Meanwhile, both CCC and MDC Alliance MPs stood behind Biti, with some of them asking National Assembly Speaker Jacob Mudenda (ZANU PF) to intervene. Harare Central MP Murisi Zwizwai (CCC) said:

Speaker, this is unfair. The Hon. Member is not protected. Why are you not restricting Zanu PF members from all this? Why are allowing this anarchy?

I represent my constituency. Do you want us to collapse this parliament? Why are you allowing ZANU PF to do this?

We are equally elected to this parliament. Respect Speaker imi vanhu veZANU PF.

When Mudenda finally brought order to the House and allowed Biti to speak, the CCC co-deputy president said:

I was elected by people in my constituency. I have the right to represent them.

I represent those people who elected me to this House.

Zanu PF Supporters Denounce Mnangagwa

Chamisa Ally Challenges Mnangagwa Over Zanu PF Kwekwe Torror Group

By- Mbizo MP Settlement Chikwinya (CCC) has challenged President Emmerson Mnangagwa to disband terror groups in Kwekwe, particularly Al-Shabaab which has allegedly committed numerous acts of violence in the Midlands city over the years.

Chikwinya claimed that the ZANU PF-linked terror groups commit politically-motivated violence with impunity and the police have no power to arrest their members.

During the run-up to the 26 March by-elections, Mboneni Ncube, a CCC member, was stabbed to death during a rally in Mbizo by suspected members of a ZANU PF-linked terror group. Speaking to The NewsHawks, Chikwinya:

We have fought a brutal fight, a very unrepentant violent system anchored on the violent antics of the Al-Shabaab crew. It is well known and protected by senior ZANU PF officials.

Since 1999, we have documented a number of people who have been murdered and tortured. The murders continue with the latest one being that of Mboneni Ncube.

The tortures continue with the individuals identified as perpetrators receiving impunity and even if they are partially arrested, they are quickly released from prison and come back to continue the atrocities.

The police cannot do much as long as their hands remain tied like this and as long as these people get protection from these senior officials.

Chikwinya said as long as Mnangagwa is involved in politics in Kwekwe, the terror groups will continue to have impunity. He added:

We know the guys involved and if you walk around Kwekwe and ask who the Al-Shabaab people are, they will tell you.

The Ncube murder perpetrators are known and the witnesses are now being threatened.

Now they can’t speak and they are trying to distort the whole story by threatening witnesses.

The next thing they will begin to blame CCC to say it was stage-managed and perhaps they will arrest people from CCC and manufacture witnesses. We are not ruling that out.

For it to come to an end, we have to remove the influence of Mnangagwa and former State Security minister Owen Ncube from politics around Kwekwe and that will bring peace to Kwekwe.

As long as these individuals are there, the perpetrators will continue to have a home where they can launch these attacks.

Meanwhile, suspected ZANU PF activists who allegedly murdered Ncube recently kidnapped his sister, Judith Ncube, and threatened to kill her if she continued demanding answers into Mboneni’s murder.

Mboneni was stabbed twice with a spear at a CCC rally held at Mbizo shopping centre and died on admission to Kwekwe Central Hospital.

Abramovich Moves To Buy La Liga Club

Chelsea, meanwhile, are still no closer to their takeover from Abramovich’s era as the four chosen bidders have been given a deadline extension where they can submit improved offers.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

SuperSport United Praise Sacked Kaitano Tembo

“SuperSport United and Head Coach Kaitano Tembo have reached a mutual agreement to part ways, with Assistant Coach Andre Arendse appointed to the position for the remainder of the current PSL season,” reads a statement from club CEO Stanley Matthews.

“Kaitano is the epitome of the dedicated club man.

“Very few players transition into coaching at the same club where they played. We want to thank Kaitano for the many years that he served SuperSport United in various capacities.

“It is never easy parting ways but as a true servant, Kaitano has always placed the interests of the club above that of individuals. We are grateful for the role he has played at the club both as a player and coach.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

CAF Gives Warriors AFCON Lifeline

CAF has given Zimbabwe the chance to take part in the Afcon 2023 qualifiers, by placing the Warriors in the group stage draw while issuing a condition that they have to get the ban imposed on the country lifted before matches begin.

World football governing body FIFA suspended Zimbabwe from international competitions citing government interference in the running of the game, after the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC), suspended the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA executive for a number of issues, chief among them failure to account for public funds.

FIFA said the only way the suspension will be lifted, is if the Kamambo-led administration is reinstated.

The draw for AFCON 2023 will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa on April 19, four days before the watershed ZIFA council extraordinary general meeting slated for April 23.

CAF has included Zimbabwe in the draw, where the Warriors are in Pot 3, but they can only take part in the qualifiers under one condition- if the suspension is lifted two weeks before match day one.

“Reference to the suspension of Kenya and Zimbabwe by FIFA from all football activities, in case the suspension is not lifted two (2) weeks before their first matchday of the qualifiers; both associations will be considered as losers and eliminated from the competition,” reads a statement from CAF.

“Consequently, their groups will be composed of 3
teams. The first and runner-up teams of those groups will quality to the final tournament. Consequently, the two teams (Kenya & Zimbabwe) cannot be drawn in the same group in order to avoid having one group with only two teams in case the suspension on both associations is not lifted.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Real Madrid Through To Champions League Semi- Finals

POLAD Is Mnangagwa’s Pet Project – President Chamisa

ZIMSEC Pass Rate Rises Marginally

RELEASE OF ZIMSEC 2021 NOVEMBER ORDINARY LEVEL EXAMINATION RESULTS
Introduction

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council Board and Management would like to advise the nation of the release of the 2021 November Ordinary Level examination results which were written between 1 December 2021 and 31 January 2022.

Heads of Examination Centres will be able to collect the results for their respective schools/centres from our Regional Offices on Wednesday, 13 April 2022.

The Ordinary Level Examination results will be accessible online to all Candidates and authorised personnel with effect from today the 12th of April 2022 beginning at 16:00 hrs.

The results can be accessed online through the ZIMSEC portal. As usual, our Website address is www.zimsec.co.zw.

Candidates are advised to click on their respective region where they will be redirected to the portal on which they can access their results. Please take note that this portal will be open for 5 days only.

Allow me from the onset to express on behalf of the Board our profound appreciation to all major stakeholders of the examination process for a timely delivery.

The examination process ended on 31 January and after 2 months and a few days, the results are here.

Air Quality And Health

WHO Air Quality Guidelines;
monitor air quality and identify sources of air pollution;
support the transition to exclusive use of clean household energy for cooking, heating and lighting;
build safe and affordable public transport systems and pedestrian- and cycle-friendly networks;
implement stricter vehicle emissions and efficiency standards; and enforce mandatory inspection and maintenance for vehicles;
invest in energy-efficient housing and power generation;
improve industry and municipal waste management;
reduce agricultural waste incineration, forest fires and certain agro-forestry activities (e.g. charcoal production); and
include air pollution in curricula for health professionals and providing tools for the health sector to engage.

We Have Special Reward For War Veterans- President Chamisa

Police Arrest Operation Dudula Leader

Nhlanhla Lux Dlamini the South African leader of the extremist xenophobic vigilante group Operation Dudula has handed himself over to the Soweto police station on yet unknown charges.

Quoting the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) regional spokesperson in Gauteng, Phindi Mjonondwane, the Citizen said Dlamini was set to appear at the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court where his docket will be revealed.

Dlamini is currently out on bail over burglary charge in connection with an incident this month in which he and Operation Dudula members ransacked Soweto resident Victor Ramerafe’s home in search of drugs.

Recently Dlamini came under fire after he addressed a gathering in Diepsloot which led to the death of Zimbabwean national Elvis Nyathi. – Bulawayo24

Stunner allegedly had a misunderstanding with his wife after she refused to give him her mobile phone.

It is alleged that he went on to slap her before forcibly removing her artificial nails.

Stunner pleaded not guilty to the charge and was placed on remand. He is expected back in court on the 11th of May for trial.

Soldiers Shoot Villager, Humiliate Police

By- A Beitbridge villager Knowledge Sibanda has been shot and injured by a soldier as he was driving near the now-defunct River Ranch Diamond Mine.

When police officers attended the scene, the soldier’s colleagues allegedly chased them away and destroyed evidence.

The incident happened last Thursday.

National police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he can only get finer details about the issue on Monday.

“If you can call me tomorrow I might have details. At the moment I don’t have much,” Nyathi said.

“They fired at me and hit my car nine times. They had not even attempted to stop me, when I passed by they just started opening fire. When police based at Makakavhule Clinic tried to attend to the scene, the soldiers chased them away,” Sibanda told NewsDay.

“I was grazed by a bullet in the head, but I do not have serious injuries. These people (soldiers) are causing a lot of problems in our village, and we have no protection because they are a law unto themselves. You should have seen how they humiliated the police,” he said.

Confusion is reigning supreme in Beitbridge where an operation against smuggling has been on-going, and has resulted in people beaten up or dying in the hands of law enforcement agents.

In December last year, police detective Sergeant Sikhelele Ncube told the court that a tout called Abel Gumbo who operated at the border town was shot by the police in Lutumba in May this year after he was mistaken for an armed robber.

Gumbo whose family is yet to get justice was shot dead by a policeman who was part of a team deployed in an operation against smuggling. Newsday

“What Is Mnangagwa Wittering About?”

By Patrick Guramatunhu- On 24 February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine. The world has witnessed yet another horror story of death and destruction, the barbarism and inhumanity man.

Last week the United Nations (UN) General Assembly voted on resolution expressing “grave concern at the ongoing human rights and humanitarian crisis in Ukraine”. The resolution to expel Russia from the UN Human Rights Council and it passed with 93 YES, 24 NO and 58 abstentions. This was the first time ever in the UN’s history that a member nation has been expelled from one of the UN organs.

Some people would have wanted Russia expelled from UN body altogether. This would have required a unanimous YES vote by the Security Council; impossible in this case since Russia is one of the five permanent members who wield a veto.

Zimbabwe was one of the 24 nations that voted NO.

“In his first public comments over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said it (invasion) was a “robust” response by President Vladmir Putin to “provocation” by NATO, a military alliance of 30 countries including the United States and Britain,” commented Zimlive in Bulawayo 24.

“Our activities in the past two months, and going forward, should be understood from that broad, regional, continental and global perspective,” quoting President Mnangagwa.

“Zimbabwe, itself already a victim of western unilateralism, is in the full glare of all these global headwinds. Against NATO’s provocative eastward expansion in Europe, and the Russian Federation’s robust response to that threat of encirclement by NATO, a new situation has arisen which requires that we re-map the world with a view to finding our own place and securing our interests.

“Like in the case of Zimbabwe which has endured more than two decades of illegal sanctions, the conflict raging in Eastern Europe has made many nations realise how powerful nations and global interests still function on old and archaic notions of ‘spheres of influence’, and that they will not hesitate to use unilateral economic coercion to bully independent-minded states unwilling to kowtow to their whims and interests.”

What is Mnangagwa wittering about? It is Russia, not NATO and the West, which is “still functioning on old and archaic notions of spheres of influence”!

The economic and political of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (U.S.S.R.) in 1989 marked the end Warsaw Treaty Organization (Warsaw Pact) as all the countries is Eastern Europe left in droves and abandoned the socialist system of government in favour of the Western Europe democratic system. USSR itself broke up as many groupings/regions demanded independence from Moscow.

Ukraine is one former USSR republics that broke away and has since abandoned socialism in favour of democracy and capitalism. It is the people of Ukraine who have been sorting closer ties with the West, they have already expressed interest in joining the European (economic and political) Union (EU) and then to join NATO (military alliance).

President Putin has objected to Ukraine, an independence and sovereign nation, joining NATO and is the one using brute force, bombing whole cities in Ukraine killing defenceless civilians, women and children.

President Mnangagwa did not condemn the murderous barbarism Russia in inflicting on the people of Ukraine because he got the wrong end of the story. He is supporting President Putin’s contemptuous disregard of rule of law and the freedoms and rights of Ukrainians to decide their own future and even the right to life because Mnangagwa too has no respect for rule of law and the freedoms and rights of others.

Ever since Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980, President Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies have waged a war of attrition on the people in their resolve to retain absolute political power at all costs. The regime has murdered over 30 000 Zimbabweans for political gain in its 42 years reign of terror.

“Like in the case of Zimbabwe which has endured more than two decades of illegal sanctions!” The sanctions were imposed on a select few Zanu PF leaders for the regime’s repeated failure to hold free and fair elections and many other human rights violations.

The country is gearing for the 2023 national elections and there is already evidence of blatant vote rigging, of voters being frog marched to attend Zanu PF rallies and of wanton violence including beating and cold-blooded murder of political opponents.

Zanu PF is set to blatantly rig the 2023 elections. And, sadly for the country, the corrupt and incompetent opposition will participate in the flawed and illegal elections to give vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy.

The Western countries have imposed wide ranging economic sanctions of Russia and President Putin. It is time the West upgraded the sanctions imposed on Zanu PF leaders and add the sell-out opposition leaders to the list. The economic and political situation in Zimbabwe has reached crisis point, the nation is desperate for meaningful political change, for free and fair elections.

It is no surprise that Zimbabwe was one of the 24 nation who voted NO to the resolution to expel Russia from the UN Human Rights Council. President Mnangagwa and President Putin have many things in common including their contempt for rule of law, freedom and human rights including the right to life!

Danger- New Civil Registry Building Develops Cracks Before Completion

Civil Registry Department

By A Correspondent- The uncompleted Civil Registry Department building in Harare has become a danger to employees and visitors as it has developed cracks in some places.

The construction of the building started in 1997 and it was set to be commissioned in the year 2000 but is yet to be completed due to a lack of funds. Said Dzimati:

This was revealed by the Director of Public Works in the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, Mike Dzimati, on Monday.https://zero.pindula.co.zw/market/featured/?limit=4

He was speaking during a hearing on the state of government-funded projects around the country by the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Defence and Home Affairs Monday. Said Dzimati:

The building construction commenced in 1997 but we have had challenges. The building has water leakages; the elevators do not function; it has cracks and we are worried about the safety of employees.

We want to complete the project. The construction of the building should have been completed by May 2000. Energy Private Company was contacted to do the work in a fix and supply agreement.

Due to delays in funds disbursement, the physical structure of the building was completed in 2003 but due to material price escalation, material shortages and brain drain, the project stalled between 2004 and 2008.

The government underfunded the project which initially was overpriced to US$23 million but was reduced to US$4 million, then revised to US$9,6 million after negotiations with the contractor.

Delays by the Treasury in making payments led to more delays in the completion of the physical structure.

This was worsened by a lack of trust in contractors who refused to use their own resources to fund the project.

The building has no certificate of occupation or commission.

Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Defence and Home Affairs chairperson, who is also Umzingwane legislator, Levi Mayihlome (ZANU PF), urged the government to do projects that can be funded.-newzimbabwe

ZEC Under Fire Over Uneven Political Playing Field

By A Correspondent- Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiCZ) has accused the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) of failing to level the political playing field.

“The conduct of the election management body (Zec), has seen it largely unable to deliver its mandate in a fair and non-partisan manner. Zec has failed to be a fair referee. Access to State-controlled media has remained the preserve of the ruling party Zanu-PF in the elections,” CiCZ said in a recent report.

“The Electoral Code of Conduct remains weak in addressing some fundamental structural shortcomings of elections, notably violence, corruption and the abuse of State resources in favour of the ruling party.”

CiCZ also said police weighed in heavily to further skew the electoral playing field by showing bias.

“The by-elections of March 26 were widely seen as a dress rehearsal for the harmonised national elections in 2023. However, given the grossly unfair environment that prevailed during the recently held elections, all indications are that the 2023 elections will likely be held under an even more strenuous environment, moving further away from regional norms as well as national parameters for free and fair elections,” it said.

The CiCZ report said the skewed political playing field violated the country’s Constitution, Sadc principles and guidelines, and the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance.

Last month, the country held by-elections to fill 28 vacant National Assembly seats and 122 local authority seats.  The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) bagged 19 National Assembly seats while Zanu-PF got nine, and CCC got 75 council seats while Zanu-PF bagged 47.

During the campaign period, Zanu-PF at times resorted to violence resulting in a Kwekwe CCC supporter Mboneni Ncube being killed.

In another report, the Citizens in Action Southern Africa (Ciasa) explored implications of the by-election on the Political Parties Financing and Quota System Representation, saying the manner in which political financing is being implemented is questionable after the newly-formed CCC party won a sizeable number of seats, but did notbenefit from the funds.

They also called for the country’s laws to have scope for party candidate lists to demonstrate proportional representation.

“However, at this juncture, there seems to be no room for CCC to second women candidates for proportional representation,” the Ciasa report read.

Tagwirei Scoffs At Dembare Takeover Claims

By A Correspondent- Dynamos benefactor Kuda Tagwirei has laughed off reports that he is angling to take over the club, insisting that he is only helping the Harare football giants to reclaim their former glory.

Through his Sakunda Holdings, Tagwirei last year splashed over US$5 million in sponsorship to Dynamos and Highlanders.

There has been a lot of skepticism around his gesture, with some suggesting that the businessman wants to take over the club, which is currently embroiled in an ownership
wrangle.

Speaking at a ceremony to hand over a house to Agnes Shaya, the wife of the late Dynamos football legend George Shaya, Tagwirei scoffed at the reports.

“I can’t be seen trying to take over Dynamos. No, that will not happen,” he said.

Tagwirei has been involved in negotiations to bring sanity to the DeMbare’s boardroom squabbles where current board chairperson Benard Marriot-Lusengo is fighting the recently elected board of trustees led by Enerst Kamba.

“We want to make sure that the ownership structure is done properly, according to the Dynamos constitution. The real owners of the club will own the team. We are bringing the warring parties together. We want them to be united and speak the same language. They are the owners, our job is to bring them to the table so that they can work together,” Tagwirei said.

“I want to see all the (current and) former players from Enerst Kamba, Moses Chunga to Bill Antonio, being part of the Dynamos family. What I want to do is unite them.”

A legal battle is in progress at Dynamos after club legends and former players met last month and reconstituted the electoral college and elected Kamba to lead a new board of trustees under the 1963 constitution.

Marriot-Lusengo has dismissed Kamba’s board and continues to run the club.

“We are not going to take anything from them. What we are doing is to help them in any way we can. When we are done resolving the ownership wrangle, we will go to the next stage where we will call upon other stakeholders including the supporters to be part and be involved with Dynamos. We want them to be members of the club by way of subscriptions,” Tagwirei said.

“Then, obviously, we want supporters to attend Dynamos matches in numbers. We all know things are not good with our football. Whenever Dynamos is not doing well, everything football in the country suffers.”

Tagwirei promised to continue pouring resources into the club as well as helping its former players financially.

The handover of the house was in fulfilment of a pledge his company made in September last year to buy Shaya a house worth US$120 000.

Agnes couldn’t contain her emotions and constantly broke down during the ceremony which was attended by close family members, including George’s brothers.

Other football legends Moses Chunga (Dynamos) and Madinda Ndlovu (Highlanders) have also been honoured with houses worth US$90 000 each by Sakunda Holdings while some former players have received US$500 each.

Shaya’s house is located in Madokero Estates.

Although Agnes was given a US$120 000 purse, she chose a three-bedroomed house worth US$100 000. She used the remainder to pay conveyance fees, and to install water and electricity systems at her new house.

Tagwirei said he decided to honour Shaya, who died in August last year, as a way of appreciating him for the part he played in developing football in the country.

The Harare businessman gave Agnes an open cheque to buy furniture of her choice for the house.

“Access To IDs Remain A Challenge”

By A Correspondent- Citizens are still struggling to access national identity (ID) documents and birth certificates despite government launching a national mobile registration exercise last week.

The situation is affecting those who wish to register to vote in the 2023 general elections.

NewsDay visited some of the registration centres in Harare and witnessed chaotic scenes, with hundreds of people, including students who had converged to access the identity documents, failing to get them.

The blitz started on April 1 and is expected to end on September 30 this year. Government said it was targeting to issue two million IDs and birth certificates during the blitz.

During the numerous COVID-19 lockdowns, the Registrar-General’s Office was offering limited services.

Margaret Murebasekwa, a 45-year-old woman, said she lost her ID last year and has been struggling to get a new one.

“We came here at Budiriro Community Hall at around 4am, but we were not attended to yet. I’m number 300. The queues are not moving as some are disregarding the queues,” Murebasekwa said at mid-morning.

Kelvin Chirombo, a Form 4 pupil, said: “I have been struggling to apply for an ID for the past three days now. It is needed at school in order for me to register for examinations. The process is just too slow.”

Meanwhile, in a bid to ensure more people get registered to vote, electoral watchdogs are now offering free transport to ferry potential voters to Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) voter registration centres.

Elections Resource Centre (ERC) legal and advocacy officer Takunda Tsunga said citizens should book in advance in order for them to be ferried to the registration centres.

“The ERC has a shuttle service that takes citizens to and from their nearest registration centre; citizens simply call our toll free line on 08080219 to book to be taken there.  We also have mobilisation activities where we are partnering with lifestyle events to reach out to youths,” Tsunga said.

Project Vote 263 chairperson Allan Chipoyi said: “Zec has done nothing in making sure that people are aware of the blitz. If we make any mistake, we might end up having fewer people who get registered to vote than the first blitz. So we are doing our best to boost the morale of people and spread awareness, especially in areas like Epworth, St Mary’s and Harare South where there are a lot of people who didn’t register to vote.”

Doctors Plead For Land

By A Correspondent- Private medical players under the Medical and Dental Private Practitioners Association of Zimbabwe (MDPPAZ) banner have asked President Emmerson Mnangagwa to expedite issuance of land to their members.

In August last year, Mnangagwa pledged to allocate land to medical practitioners in private practice drawn from the country’s 10 provinces.

MDPPAZ has close to 372 medical practitioners set to benefit from the scheme.

Letters addressed to provincial affairs ministers, Lands and Agriculture secretary John Bhasera urged them to offer land to members of the MDPPZA.

However, little has been done on the ground with regards to the issuance of land to private medical players, which has compelled MDPPZA president Johannes Marisa to write to Mnangagwa.

“Practitioners have stood tall and with resilience and bravery, especially during the time of COVID-19 peaks. We declare our allegiance to you and the government and support all your endeavours to steer the economy forward,” Marisa said.

“As you recall, we applied for land via your respected offices in July 2021 and on August 16, 2021, your office responded by penning a request to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Resettlement ministry to consider land allocation to the medical practitioners. It was all joy among the medical practitioners as news filtered through all media houses that President Mnangagwa had allocated land to medical practitioners.”

Marisa said MDPPAZ has received great co-operation from Mashonaland East and Masvingo provinces.

However, MDPPAZ members who applied for land in Mashonaland Central province were told to join a long waiting list of more than 26 000 people, Marisa said.

He said the scenario was the same in Mashonaland West province where the authorities are yet to identify land for the private medical practitioners, while there was little progress in the Midlands, Matabeleland North and South provinces.

“We are confident that you [President Mnangagwa] will surely assist us further as we appreciate you as a man of action. We are trying to avoid the demoralisation of our members at this juncture when we are putting all our efforts to support you,” he
said.

MDPPAZ secretary-general Cletos Masiya urged members of the organisation to utilise the land that they would have applied for and to avoid taking huge tracts of land which would not be unutilised.

“ZACC Books In A Mess”: Report

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) has admitted its books were in a mess when the Auditor-General (AG) Mildred Chiri audited them in 2019.

In her 2020 audit of Zacc accounts, Chiri revealed that the anti-graft body failed to account for millions of United States dollars between 2012 and 2019.

In a statement yesterday, Zacc spokesperson John Makamure said: “The Commission takes note of the issues raised in the Auditor-General Mildred Chiri’s report stating that the commission failed to furnish her office with supporting documentation for payment of goods and services, and other substantial disbursements. The commission would like to state that it is currently studying the document and will issue a comprehensive statement in due course.”

Makamure admitted that Zacc’s books for the period 2012 to 2019 were not in order owing to legacy issues.

He said since the appointment of the Justice Loice Matanda-Moyo-led Zacc, they had worked tirelessly to enhance professionalism and transparency at the commission.

“The commission has introduced a new culture of conducting business guided by robust standard operating procedures, regulatory frameworks and internal policies and procedure manuals,” the statement read.

In her audit report, Chiri revealed that in 2012 and 2013 Zacc failed to produce supporting documents, supplier statements and invoices for transactions amounting to US$2 417 374 and US$814 841.

“In 2017 there were no supporting documents availed to validate expenditure and payables amounting to US$2 064 864 and US$474 138 respectively presented in the financial statements. I was, therefore, unable to perform alternative procedures to obtain assurance as to the accuracy and completeness of these balances,” Chiri said.

Meanwhile, Chiri yesterday told participants at a media engagement workshop in Nyanga that the AG’s office will introduce vernacular summaries of audit reports, starting with Ndebele and Shona for easy understanding by citizens.

“My office has plans to introduce vernacular summaries of the reports. We intend to start with Ndebele and Shona versions and hope to increase the dialects with time,” Chiri said.

She said the media had assisted her office to reach out to millions of people, some of them in remote areas through unravelling inadequacies, excesses and lack of compliance in audits.

“Audit reports by nature point out anomalies in an organisation which mainly impinge on financial resources. However, that does not mean that there are no positive developments and success stories in that entity,” Chiri said.

“The audit report only gives half the story. The other half can be obtained from the organisation or ministry itself. Therefore, assessing the overall performance of a public entity using the findings of the AG’s report alone would be myopic and incomplete,” she said.

She said the role of her office was to promote public sector transparency and accountability through auditing accounts of ministries, State enterprises and local authorities.

“If audit recommendations are implemented, the positive difference that is expected in citizens’ lives will be realised,” Chiri added.-Newsday

Guard Jailed 20yrs For Killing Drunkard

By A Correspondent- High Court judge, Justice Davison Foroma has slapped a guard at a Kuwadzana car park, Felix Muteve with a 20 year jail term after he fatally assaulted a drunkard who trespassed at the car park suspecting that he was a thief.

Muteve was being jointly charged with the murder of one Jemias Bangu together with four others on July 2, 2016 at Sam Marange’s car park in Kuwadzana.

The other four were discharged.

The court heard that Muteve assaulted the deceased with a blank object and an umbrella stick.

According to the state, Muteve was asked to guard Marange’s car park on July 1, 2016 as Marange wanted to go to his other car park in Kuwadzana Extension, and he agreed.

Muteve was released around 11pm after Marange returned, but he went on to sleep in a bus that was parked.

The court heard that around 1am and 2am, the witness heard someone screaming that he had seen a thief. When they went to check they discovered that the thief was actually a drunk.

It was heard that when the suspected thief was explaining to the witness, Muteve started to assault the deceased.

He was restrained against doing so by several people who were at the scene but he continued assaulting him and continued for several hours.

In the morning, Muteve was asked to the now deceased to the police station where he influenced other witnesses to lie to the police.

In convicting him, Justice Foroma ruled that the evidence given by the pathologist in the post mortem showed that the deceased made his last attempt to escape but was re-captured and brought back to the fire place at Marange’s Car Park.

“The court believes that the injuries to the deceased’s limbs must have been caused after deceased’s recapture and that these injuries must have been caused by more than one assailant. The brain oedema and haematoma on the frontal left parietal area must have been caused by the accused’s reckless assault of the deceased on the head as testified,” Foroma ruled.

“The deceased’s limbs were fractured and such fractures must have been inflicted after his recapture when he was attempting to escape from further assaults at the fire place at Sam Marange’s car park.”

The deceased died from the wounds sustained. He had fractured limbs.

Justice Foroma said he will take into account the three years of pre-trial incarceration that Muteve had served.

“This however did not warrant the deceased being brutally assaulted. Once the deceased had been captured initially his captors ought to have taken him to police immediately or at the very least inform the police that they had caught a thief in the car park so that police would arrange to collect him. The decision by the offender to deal with the deceased without alerting the police amounts to the proverbial “taking the law into their own hands” which this court will not condone,” Foroma ruled.

The judge said human life is sacrosanct and cannot be replaced, adding that a 20 year sentence will send the correct message to the offender and like-minded people.-newsday

Zanu PF Councilor Who Doubles As Headmaster Refuses To Quit

By A Correspondent- A Gokwe headmaster based at Nyaradza Primary School, who is said to have a tendency of bullying teachers and villagers, is allegedly still working as a civil servant yet he is now a ward 19 Zanu-PF councillor.

Enock Chevedza is supposed to have relinquished his position as school head in line with government policy which stipulates that civil servants who enter politics must resign. Chevedza, however, has continued working as a school head four years after he was elected councillor.

Section 200(4) of the Constitution prohibits civil servants from occupying political office.

A villager from ward 19 who refused to be named alleged that Chevedza was using his Zanu-PF post to bully teachers.

“The Nyaradza Primary School headmaster was elected ward 19 councillor on a Zanu-PF ticket. He is victimising teachers using his political position. Every teacher is now afraid of him, and some are resigning,” the villager said.

Other villagers said he should either resign from politics or the civil service.

Investigations by NewsDay revealed that Chevedza was failing to separate school business from politics and was threatening teachers who failed to show allegiance to the ruling Zanu-PF party.

Chevedza also uses the school premises as a venue for Zanu-PF events.

Timothy Sibanda, a teacher at the school who is also the Midlands chairperson for the Educators Union of Zimbabwe told NewsDay that Chevedza initiated the cessation of his salary.

“I have gone for more than a year without a salary. The councillor is unfairly treating teachers who are not aligned to him. I had my salary ceased last April after he used his political muscle to block due processes,” Sibanda said.

During the just ended March 26 by-elections, Chevedza campaigned for Gokwe Zanu-PF candidates.

He is accused of threatening villagers telling them that they will not receive food aid and agricultural inputs if Zanu-PF loses.

Efforts to get a comment from Primary and Secondary Education ministry spokesperson Taungana Ndoro were fruitless as his phone went unanswered.  Efforts to also get a comment from Chevedza were in vain.

Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe president Obert Masaraure said civil servants should be non-partisan.-Newsday

“Civil servants are cleared by the Public Service Commission to contest elections and are expected to resign when they secure victory,” Masaraure said.

In Chikomba, two rural district council employees were in 2018 ejected from council after they won the elections, but did not resign from council.

“Partisan civil servants have a track record of abusing their authority and they have discriminatory tendencies.  Civil servants are allowed to enjoy the right to vote and be voted for, but must resign as soon as they secure partisan office,” Masaraure said.

Zim Teen “Disappears” From Police Custody

By A Correspondent- A Zimbabwean teenage girl who was placed at a “safe centre” by Botswana police after her mother was arrested for illegal entry into the country reportedly disappeared from custody.

Reports from Botswana suggest that Natalie Gurumani (13) went missing from police custody on March 15.

Her mother, Charity Gurumani, did not find her at the centre when she went to fetch her after she was released.

Gurumani, who returned to Botswana legally on March 13 to look for her child, is now appealing for information on her whereabouts from the public.

It is alleged that Natalie was taken away from Gurumani’s aunt, Janet Kabelo, by Botswana police after her mother had gone job-hunting.

“It later turned out that Gurumani was arrested by the police and deported back to her home country, Zimbabwe, for unlawfully remaining in Botswana. While Gurumani was still sorting out her passport in Zimbabwe, social workers and the police took her daughter from Kabelo to place her in a secret safe shelter,” media reports from Botswana said.

When she returned a month later, the girl was missing, and Gurumani was instead charged with child negligence and detained.

It is alleged that the social workers who took the child away had a court order.

Officer Commanding N03, Theriso Thatayotlhe confirmed to Botswana media that Natalie was missing and the case was reported at Tlokweng Police Station.-newsday

“Gvt Will Not Lift Covid-19 Restrictions”

By A Correspondent- Government yesterday said it would not lift COVID-19 restrictions, which include wearing of masks and a ban on big gatherings, to help control the spread of the pandemic ahead of the Easter holidays.

Neighbouring Botswana has detected new Omicron sub-variants BA.4 and BA.5. The first Omicron variant was first detected in Botswana in November last year and has since spread across the globe and mutated in the process into other variants.

During a post-Cabinet media briefing yesterday in Harare, Health acting minister Paul Mavima said government had resolved not to lift the COVID-19 restrictions and regulations, which include wearing of masks, social distancing and gatherings limited to 100 people.

“The resolution that we came up with today is that there is no relaxation whatsoever on the existing provisions to contain COVID-19,” he said.

“Everything remains as is despite the success that we have seen in terms of containment of COVID-19. There is a potential for an increase in COVID-19 cases during the Easter celebrations and also the cold weather, which can fuel the spread of COVID-19 and government is saying no relaxation of COVID-19.

We continue being on watch and make sure that we observe those protocols which include sanitisation, social distancing and also vaccination. There is nothing that has changed. We need to strengthen the awareness campaigns to promote the ongoing vaccination so that our people are protected.”

Several African countries have, however, eased COVID-19 regulations which include mandatory testing at ports of entries. Ghana recently ended its mandatory requirement to wear face masks in public.

Last month, Kenya lifted COVID-19 restrictions, which included a ban on large indoor gatherings such as those for religious services and a requirement to present a negative COVID-19 test upon arrival for air travel passengers.

President Emmerson Mnanagwa urged citizens to remain vigilant in light of the new variants detected in Botswana.

“Let us not lower our guard. COVID-19 remains a national threat to our well-being,” he tweeted.

“Social distance, mask up, sanitise, get tested regularly and get vaccinated, including a booster. A healthy nation is key to Zimbabwe attaining its aspirations.”

Convicted Ra_pist Starts Own Church Behind Bars

By A Correspondent- A Rusape man, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison for having sexual relations with a minor, has started a church while serving his sentence at Harare Central Prison.

I passed three subjects – joinery, cabinet making and carpentry – and I got my carpentry Class 3 certificate. I am proud of myself.

I know that when I go back home I have somewhere to start my life, which will be better than before my conviction.

Bonde was arrested after the parents of the minor girl that he was dating discovered the affair and reported him to the police.

Gvt Orders Universities, Colleges Closure During Census

By A Correspondent- The Government has directed universities and colleges as well as other tertiary education institutions to close from 18 to 30 April.

The Zimbabwe Statistical Agency (Zimstat) will be conducting the national population census during the period and the closure of institutions of higher learning will ensure the enumeration of students in their usual households.

The Government has also urged churches to desist from holding gatherings during the period so that church members are enumerated.

This was announced by the Acting Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Jenfan Muswere, during a post-cabinet media briefing in Harare on Tuesday. He said:

To avoid collective or institutional households, Cabinet advises the nation that all institutions of higher learning will be closed from 18 to 30 April 2022.

Closure of the institutions will pave the way for the enumeration of students in their usual households.

Church members are similarly encouraged to be at their places of residence between 18 and 30 April to allow the smooth conduct of the census.

Muswere also said the preparations for the 2022 Population and Housing Census are on track, with Levels 1 and 2 training having been completed in March 2022.

He revealed that the bulk of the personnel is drawn from the teaching fraternity, youth and other civil servants from the security sector.

Chamisa: The Fog Has Cleared In Zimbabwe | FULL TEXT

By Adv Nelson Chamisa | At the beginning of last year, I wrote an article in which I promised that “the fog will soon clear”.

That article appeared at a time when the movement was facing adverse circumstances. It was a message of reassurance to the millions of people who believed in us; people that had stood with us in times of great adversity. I knew that many of our supporters were anxious and worried. I wanted everyone to know that we were calm and still in control.

President Nelson Chamisa

Owners of the helicopter, who pleaded for anonymity said they had been in possession of the R44 helicopter for more than a year now.

The owners said when it crashed it was on its way from Kwekwe where it took off at 12:05 pm and was expected to land in Harare at 1pm.

“The helicopter had no previous mechanical or technical issues. When it crashed I was actually waiting for it at Charles Prince Airport so that I could take the pilot home. As of the cause of the accident, everything so far is still under investigation,” said the owners.
A day before the tragic event, the late Captain Chirimuuta had flown comedienne Felistas Murata popularly known as Mai TT to her wedding venue.
President of the Employers Association for Tours and Safari Operations Mr Clement Mukwasi said they were saddened by the death of the pilot.

“We are actually very shocked and concerned about the accident involving the death of the pilot.
“Loss of life is always tragic. We are however, waiting for the authorities to get to the bottom of the matter,” he said.
The firm operates charter flights from its bases in Victoria Falls and Harare where it hires out its aircraft to different destinations across the country.
When The Herald visited the accident scene on Monday, the wreckage of the helicopter was still in the mountain where it crashed, a stone’s throw away from a homestead.
Two police officers were guarding the wreckage, with some pieces from the wings seen hanging on a tree about 10 metres away.
An eyewitness, Mr Musekiwa Mapunde said: “It seemed as if the pilot wanted to fly past trees in the mountain but failed, resulting in the helicopter hitting a tree branch and within seconds, we heard a loud bang.”

Mwonzora MPs Stampede For CCC Posts

By- Former MDC-T members have expressed their readiness to contest for any position in CCC after the party’s leaders said the political organisation is a new entity and accommodates everyone.

The secretary-general of the MDC-T faction formerly led by Thokozani Khupe, Nomvula Mguni on Monday told Southern Eye that the opposition should focus on uniting people. Said Mguni:

No one can stop what happened on Saturday because it is for the people. Everyone needs change and we will contest any positions that will come up within CCC.

We have been told that this is a new party and that we are starting afresh. People are the ones who elect others into positions.

On Saturday Khupe declared that she is now a CCC member after she attended a meeting addressed by CCC leader Nelson Chamisa at Bulawayo’s McDonalds Hall in Makokoba.

Some CCC Bulawayo provincial leaders have announced that they are not keen to work with Khupe.

However, Southern Eye reported CCC sources as saying Khupe was welcomed by members of the opposition party as she sat with the crowds.

Chamisa on Saturday told his members that his party will soon convene an elective congress to choose its leaders.

It is, however, not clear if former MDC-T members will be allowed to contest for positions at the envisaged CCC elective congress.

Tagwirei Hands-over New House To George Shaya

By- President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s business front man Kuda Tagwireyi has officially handed over a house to Agnes Shaya, the wife of the late Dynamos football legend George Shaya.

Tangwirei made the promise to give a house to Shaya’s widow in September last year, a month after the death of the football legend.

Tagwirei officially handed over the house in his capacity Sakunda Holdings’ chief executive officer.

He handed over the house to Shaya’s widow Agnes this Tuesday.

The house is located in the gated community of Madokero Estates west of Harare’s central business district.

Sakunda Holdings had asked Agnes to select a house with a value of US$120 000 but she chose the three-bedroomed house worth US$100 000.

She decided to deduct some of the money towards conveyance fees, and water and electricity systems.

Tagwirei said he decided to honour Shaya in appreciation of the part he played in developing football in the country.

He also gave Agnes an open cheque to buy furniture of her choice for the house.

Meanwhile, Sakunda Holdings has also honoured other football legends Moses Chunga (Dynamos) and Madinda Ndlovu (Highlanders).

Chunga and Ndlovu were each given houses worth US$90 000 by the same company.
