Herentals, Simba Bhora Battle For Supremacy

The question as to which Northern Region Division One team will be promoted to the PSL might be answered this Saturday when Simba Bhora and Herentals U20 meet in a top of the table clash at Wadzanayi Stadium in Shamva.

The region has served fans a gripping title race, with Simba Bhora, Herentals U20 and Golden Eagles battling for the sole ticket to the country’s top-flight.

But after Eagles dropped points in their last two assignments and now six points behind log leaders Simba Bhora, its safe to say it comes down to the Shamva-based side and Herentals U20.

Both sides head into the clash on the back of victories —Simba Bhora maintained top spot with an emphatic 4-0 victory over relegation-threatened Cam and Motor while Herentals U20 edged Eagles 1-0.

Arthur Tutani’s charges have amassed 60 points from 27 matches while Herentals U20 are two adrift, from 26 outings, with five games remaining.

Tutani will be hoping that the league’s top goalscorer Tinashe ‘Maswera’ Balakasi adds to his record tally of 26.

Herentals U20 coach Paul Benza will be hoping that the students’ top scorer Salif Cheya, whose solitary strike propelled the students to a hard-fought victory over Eagles on Saturday, inspires them to what would be a decisive win on enemy territory.

Cheya insists pressure to get promoted is on Simba Bhora, not Herentals U20.

“We are just playing our normal game. Our coach has not said anything about promotion, we are just playing football to provide for our families,” he said.

“The ones who are under pressure to get promoted are Simba Bhora, not us,” added the striker.

A win over for Simba Bhora will see them opening a five point gap at the summit of the table while a Herentals U20 success will see the students leapfrog their rivals into top spot.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Bournemouth Boss Bemoans Zemura Absence

Bournemouth coach Scott Parker has described Jordan Zemura’s absence as a disruption ahead of the team’s 4-0 loss at Manchester City on Saturday.

Zemura missed the encounter after testing positive for Covid-19.

The Cherries were also without star striker Dominic Solanke who picked a knock on the eve of the match.

Speaking after the loss, Parker admitted: “They (Zemura and Solanke)were late dropouts. They were dropouts yesterday. It was disappointing.

“Dom’s felt his ankle yesterday morning, so didn’t feel he could play today. We didn’t want to risk that. JZ felt ill yesterday. Bit of a disruption, really, that late on, when you’re trying to prepare.”

Asked how much disruption caused by the pair’s absence, Parker added: “It affects it, of course it does.

“When you have late decisions to make, and you’ve done a lot of work in the week to prep for that… but that’s not the reason.

“It wasn’t ideal. Like I said, I thought to a man, my players gave everything they could today. They left everything out there. The difference was in quality. The levels were just too good.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

South African Kwaito Legend Dies

Kwaito legend and member of iconic group TKZee Tokollo “Magesh” Tshabalala has passed away.

City Press understands that the 45-year-old hit maker’s lifeless body was found by a family member this morning and it is believed that he died during his sleep.

According to a relative who asked not to be named, his death could be due to his battle with epilepsy:

No visible injuries can be seen on his body, he was just lying in bed.
Tshabalala is one of kwaito’s most renowned musicians, famously known for his songwriting and being a member of TKZee, complementing the group with his unique rapping skills.

The Tshabalala family released a statement through publicist Sheila Afari confirming that the kwaito star died due to an epileptic seizure.

“The family requests for privacy during this difficult period, all details pertaining to his memorial and funeral service will be shared in due course,” the statement read.

In 1994, TKZee released their first full album, Halloween, which became a huge hit with smash singles like We Love This Place. The album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry of SA as it sold over 200 000 copies. It also earned them four awards at the SA Music Awards for Best Kwaito Album, Best Duo/Group, Best Single and Best Kwaito Single.

They rose to prominence in 1997 with their hit single Phalafala and a year later, their collaboration with the current Manchester United coach, Benni McCarthy, which was recorded in Amsterdam, shot them to global stardom with their chart-topper, Shibobo, dedicated to the 1998 Fifa World Cup.

In 1999, they produced Guz 2001, a compilation album by TKZee Family, consisting of the original TKZee members alongside other names on their record label TKZ Wrekords, including Gwyza, Loyiso, 2 shot and Dr Mageu sharing the musical stage with Kutlwano Masote.

As the son of soccer coach Stanley “Screamer” Tshabalala, he proved that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree as both were creative geniuses in their own right.

Tshabalala will be remembered as a pioneer of the Kwaito genre with a music career spanning over three decades, writing hit songs, including Mambotje and Dlala Mapantsula. TKZee was formed by childhood friends composer Zwai Bala and musician-turned pastor and anti-drug activist Kabelo Mabalane. The three met when studying at the prestigious St Stithians College.

While the latter two maintained a public presence in their subsequent careers, Tshabalala did not maintain a consistent public profile in the last decade.

In 2007, he took responsibility for a car accident in Botswana, which resulted in one person losing their life.

Tshabalala believed it was God who has kept him out of a Botswana jail:

Ja, I was ready to face the music, but God, ntanga (homey), did it again because (that) Tuesday happened to be a public holiday in Botswana.
He said he prayed to God every morning and was confident that the Botswana courts would find him innocent.

This is a developing story, a statement from the family will be added later.

Granny (70) Hauled To Court Over Selling Non- Existent Land

By A Correspondent- A 70 year-old Seke woman is reeling in the eye of a storm amid allegations of selling a non-existent piece of land measuring 2 600 square metres in Seke district, Mashonaland East.

The land situated in Tugwete village, under Chief Seke in Manyame Rural District Council was valued at US$4 000.

Ward 1 councillor Blessing Tangwara confirmed the alleged illegal sale of the land by Sheri Nyamudoka to Aida Mhesano.

Contacted for comment, Sheri Nyamudoka said she sold the land in order to pay for her child’s medical bills.

Yes, I sold my piece of land. However, there is a misunderstanding with the village head who is disputing ownership of the land in question.

“Mrs Mhesano wants to develop the area now, but I told her to wait a little bit while I sort out the land dispute issue. I even approached the local Chief with her to prove that I am the rightful owner of the land,” she said.

Granny Nyamudoka also said she was even prepared to refund Mrs Mhesano’s money.

Allegations are that Mrs Mhesano approached Granny Nyamudoka in 2020 looking for a stand to purchase and made a deposit and agreed to a monthly payment plan for the remainder.

However, despite Mhesano paying a deposit of US$1 000 and making instalments, she was advised by the village head that the land sold by Gogo Nyamudoka belongs to her relatives.

Our publication is in possession of an affidavit signed between the two parties on January 2, 2020.

“I sold a piece of my land measuring 2 600 square metres in Tugwete village, Chief Seke for $64 000 which is equivalent to US$4 000. The buyer is Aida Mhesano NR 63……26.

“She has paid a deposit of $16 000 (US$1 000) the balance is now $45 000 which is equivalent to interbank rate US$3 000 payable in monthly instalments of $8 000 (US$500),” reads the affidavit.

Mabhiza Chides Unscrupulous Prophets

By Tafadzwa Muranganwa| Renowned cleric Dr Sydney Mabhiza has reprimanded prophets who are in the habit of committing sins in the guise of being God-send.

The St John’s Apostolic Church of the Whole World leader was speaking to thousands of congregants who were gathered at Rusike Secondary School in Goromonzi for the last day of the 7-day Feast of Tabernacles.

“I don’t want to hear any of our prophets using God’s name to trick women into sexual relationships.

“When healing women I would recommend you to only touch their heads and not any other part that can lead you to temptations,” advised Mabhiza.

He also rebuked prophets who seek payment for healing.

“Let it be known here that any prophet who demands payment for healing people is not from St John’s .

“As a church, we condemn such acts and if anyone from here in Rusike paid our prophets then you need to demand the payment back,” added.

The Mhondoro-born cleric encouraged church leaders to humble themselves.

“We don’t want church leaders who exalt themselves and I will not hesitate to remove you from your positions if you don’t humble yourselves,” chided Mabhiza.

The reprimand by the St John’s Apostolic Church of the Whole World founder comes at a time reports of prophets abusing women and being involved in nefarious activities are alarming.

In May,a local newspaper reported that a self-styled prophet from the Johane Masowe Chishanu sect in Chirumhanzu district allegedly raped a 15-year-old old girl and threatened her with madness if she reported the matter.

Meanwhile , thousands of the St John’s Apostolic Churchof the Whole World congregants who attended the Feast of Tabernacles were also treated to flawless entertainment by members of their church who included Solomon Aaron Kaporoma ‘King Solomon’ and Mai Dhuterere-wife to popular gospel artiste Mambo Dhuterere.

Zanu PF Cadre Up For Throwing Mnangagwa Under The Bus

By-A 32-year-old Zanu PF Mutare member has been arrested for denouncing party leader Emerson Mnangagwa.

The member landed himself in trouble after suggesting that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is not doing enough to address the socio-economic crisis in the country.

Malcom Masari from Chikanga 1, Mutare, allegedly sent a message in a WhatsApp group suggesting that the socio-economic crisis was forcing party members to ditch governing Zanu PF.

In court papers the state says Masari who is unemployed was reported by Esau Mupfumi, a 60-year-old businessman.

The state said on the 5th of August 2022, Masari posted a defamatory message on a Zanu PF WhatsApp group called “Zanu PF Election Indaba” by posting messages that insult the president E D Mnangagwa. He allegedly said:

Polad Slaps Down SA Minister for Failing to Recognize and respect POLAD

To Members of the Press.

FULL TEXT | Pando Offside on Zimbabwe situation – Polad

It is with great disgrace that our fellow African sister, Minister Pando, speaks unguided by the real truth in Zimbabwe.

We as Political Actors Dialogue, Polad invite her for a fact finding mission such that maybe she can have the reality of the big efforts on the ground.

Minister N Pando stated several points in which she failed to recognized the effort of the retired H.E K Mothlande led commission. The recommendations led to the formation of POLAD. This became a multifaceted dialogue amongst patriotic political players and brought in oneness in building the nation in which the Government of Zimbabwe led by H.E Dr ED Mnangagwa implemented swiftly showing his willingness to dialogue with other political players.

In her statements she failed to recognize and respect POLAD and calls for an inclusive political dialogue involving all political formations/parties, stakeholders (civil society groups, churches, Labour, ..) and groups (war vets, etc.) yet Polad in its function has continually engaged such stakeholders in its development. The Minister Pando is showing ignorance on what is happening in Zimbabwe.

South Africa however has its own serious problems of barbaric Xenophobia, mob crime and rampant looting, destruction of private property. They should concentrate in putting down their own fire before trying to water down our dying charcoal… We as Zimbabweans have never denied our shortfalls but however can not be schooled by holier than thou clan from the South who have no clue on the progress we have so far achieved witnessed only by honest people on the ground. Our progress despite sanctions can only be denied by those who deliberately turn a blind eye and speak the language of the colonial masters seeking one agenda of exploitation and neocolonialism. We can not be schooled by such flimsy suggestions that those who are sponsored to abstain from Dialogue, have any meaning in a progressive and prosperous Zimbabwe.

Polad initiative brought in selfless patriotic peace loving Zimbabweans across the political devide who all believe not in winner takes all mentality. Meanwhile some who believe they are the winners rush to convince an ignorant international community that without them Zimbabwe is going nowhere, marking down every meaningful progress.

Polad through its solid thematic committees engaged and still continues to engage the Government, civil society, the Churches and the political players to foster solutions. Political Reforms such as the electoral Reforms have come out of Polad , economic Policies such as introduction of gold coins have been a brainchild of Polad among many. Polad influenced our Covid 19 management, to become one of the biggest successes in Africa despite limitations of resources. Polad launched the Covid 19 vaccination programme among many progressive milestones.

True and patriotic Zimbabweans are finding each other and fine tuning our democracy. The remarks by our esteemed South African diplomat lacks balance and true perspective on what is on the ground. As she follows the wrong footsteps of Magashule we reiterate the same, come to Zimbabwe and see or rather read widely on the subject mater , we are on the mend.

Minister Pando went on to downplay the sanction narrative saying …,” while SADC engages in the removal of sanctions, it (SADC) must initiate an inclusive political dialogue because of the strong links between politics, economy and social in Zimbabwe – politics=economy=social conditions”. She failed to wholesomely condemn the illegal sanctions, she is indeed backtracking on African Union position on unconditional removal of unilateral sanctions .

Minister Pando went on to confirm that the ANC
Government has only been seeing and engaging with the ZANU PF Government; and not allowed to see other players in the country. This led to her myopic view about Zimbabwe situation which is fast forward much broader and more inclusive. Again, hinting on inclusive political dialogue which left many even in the world confused of what really she is talking about.

She later posed a question, why boosting of decades of freedom when you can not fix proper sewage facilities when efforts are underway and there are massive infrastructure projects worth billions at the moment. We have not said anything either by the eyesore of shacks and poverty disparity in her home country. She is forgetting that by far South Africa is the worst when it comes to unequal societies not Zimbabwe.

It is laughable if we are to ask her if her passport ever got stamped to enter into Zimbabwe if so when was the last time and which places did she visit if not only hotels.

We wish things would be better, let’s us all as Africans live in peace respecting each other’s efforts and be what we preach, let us all live how we preach and have respect for human rights building houses for our people removing them from Shacks to decent housing.

It is our wish that she retract her statements and be on the ground for reality to sink in so that the world is not mislead and people being misinformed.
Magashule tried the same, pointing a finger of a false crisis in Zimbabwe yet the fact was his own crisis in political career. We warn the diplomat to think twice and do ground research before commenting about Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe is not burning but we are progressing well in terms of our reality and circumstances. I just wish her well in her political career it might be in quandary just like ignorant Magashule.

Our candle stick!
Merciful Giver rescue
Her dim soul wagon
Jackknifed between
The go and stop twins
Of life traffic lights.
Infidels have hijacked
And mutilated free speech!
Were anger, the fuel ink
In the tank of politics,
She navigates not on the wrong lane
Yet in filthy dock her fate she learns,
Were prison cells potato fields,
We would consume our Democracy
Longing for Freedom Day.
My Tsitsi! My citizen! My Icon!

President Chamisa Slams Police Ineptitude

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has said the Zanu PF regime is in panic mode.

The regime banned President Chamisa’s Thank You rally scheduled for Chipinge.

The Zanu PF regime is wary of losing the coming elections, according to President Chamisa.

“THEY ARE SCARED & VERY AFRAID.
-The police banned our Chipinge Citizens Thank you Rally.
-We went to the High Court (Mutare) yesterday to challenge the ban.
-The court agreed with the police prohibiting the rally.
It’s a real fight and we will WIN this fight,” the CCC leader wrote on Twitter.

CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere on Saturday slammed the police ban.

“Zanu PF continues its streak of disrupting our meetings & violating our right to assemble. The Chipinge Rally that was planned for tomorrow has been banned. They’re afraid of our visibility in Chipinge so they’re abusing institutions to silence us. We remain steadfast.”

Former Herald Editor Wins Gold Claim

State Media-Fidelity Printers and Refiners is now secure in possession of a gold claim the Supreme Court agreed had been improperly forfeited to the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, after the ministry filed for the final appeal to the Constitutional Court without presenting the outline of its written argument against the judgment.
This is an absolute requirement in a civil case, and by not presenting its reasons the Ministry is now barred from proceeding further.

Fidelity repossessed its gold claim in Kwekwe in October last year after the Supreme Court confirmed an interim order granted to the company early last year.

It had approached the Supreme Court challenging the forfeiture of its gold claim without affording it a chance to be heard.

Unhappy with the Supreme Court ruling, the Ministry sought to appeal to the Constitutional Court, but was way out of time.

Through its legal counsel, the Ministry brought a double chamber application for condonation of breaching court rules and for leave to note an appeal.

But a Supreme Court judge, Justice Anne-Mary Gowora, queried the validity of the application in the absence of the impugned court decision from the record of proceedings.

The Ministry had not attached written reasons why it wanted to appeal the judgement to the application, as required by the rules of the court.

Professor Lovemore Madhuku, arguing the matter for the Ministry, insisted that the application was valid, saying his clients complied with all the requirements necessary despite the lack of assistance from the Supreme Court.

He said his clients had sought to obtain a judgment from the Supreme Court, but to no avail, hence they were compelled to launch the application due to the judgement’s far-reaching effects.

He moved the judge to postpone the matter to enable his clients to obtain a copy of the final judgment from the Supreme Court.

In his counter-submissions, Advocate Tawanda Zhuwara acting for Fidelity argued that the court rules compelled the Ministry to furnish the court with reasons for the order.

He opposed the postponement of the matter, saying this would not aid the Ministry as there was no guarantee that they would obtain the reasons for judgment within three months.

He then moved the judge to strike the matter off the roll.

In her ruling, Justice Gowora found that the Ministry based their application on an incorrect rule rendering their case fatally defective.

A litigant cannot institute a civil action in the courts without due observance of and compliance with the rules of that court.

The rules inform a litigant of what is required of him to access the court concerned and once a litigant fails to observe or comply with those rules, he or she will inevitably be non-suited. Based on this reasoning, Justice Gowora struck the matter off the roll for want of compliance with the rules of the court.

“The applicants are, therefore, non-suited before this court. Consequently, this application is a nullity as it stands on nothing,” she ruled.

The High Court had in May last year refused to confirm Fidelity’s provisional order to repossess its claim that had been improperly forfeited to the Ministry for allegedly failing to pay the laid down annual fees for more than six years.

Fidelity then took the matter on appeal and a three-judge panel of Justice Susan Mavangira, Justice George Chiweshe and Justice Felistus Chatukuta unanimously allowed the appeal, which the Ministry now seeks to overturn at the Constitutional Court.

In addition, the Supreme Court declared invalid any act done by the Minister of Mines and the provincial mining director for Midlands to alienate the area under Mirage 3.

The ruling meant that the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development cannot forfeit a mining claim in terms of Section 1260 of the Mines and Mineral Act, without first notifying the affected party and allowing them to make representation.

In the past, the ministry had been forfeiting mining claims all over the country by simply posting the notice of forfeiture on their notice boards.

The High Court in May last ruled that the forfeiture and subsequent re-allocation of Mirage 3 Mine gold mining claim held by Fidelity to new beneficiary Mr Jona Nyevera was lawful.

Fidelity, which had sold the gold mining claim to former Herald Editor Caesar Zvayi, was suing the Minister of Mines and Mining Development, the provincial mining director for Midlands and Mr Nyevera.

Its essential argument was that it received no prior notice of the intention to declare the claim forfeit and that there had been an understanding between the Ministry and itself that no statutory mining fees payment would be necessary.-Herald

ZRP Demands Marry Mubaiwa’s Password

Police are waiting for a password from South Africa to open a disc of PDF documents to conclude their investigations into the money laundering charges faced by Marry Mubaiwa, investigating officer Detective Victor Masimba told the Harare Magistrates Court last Friday.
All local investigations were complete, he said.

“Outstanding is to obtain some information from South Africa,” said Det Masimba. “We have received some documents and also a disc containing the PDF files, but the CD Rom is equipped with a password.

“I had a conversation with Mr Chris Mutangadura from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA). He indicated that there is need for the password so that they can open the PDF files and once we obtain the password, we will open the PDF, which has the information that we need.”

Det Masimba further submitted that the documents pass through diplomatic protocols before going to the NPA.

Mubaiwa’s lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa has applied for her client to be removed from remand, arguing that the State failed to complete its investigations in 32 months.

This means that she could still be summoned to face trial, but would not be compelled to come to court for interim remands and the bail conditions for this charge would fall away.

Ms Mtetwa said the State would not suffer any prejudice if Mubaiwa was removed from remand.

“The State had enough time to complete its investigations, but failed,” she said. “Therefore, the accused should be removed from remand.”The court will rule on the application tomorrow.

During the previous court sitting, magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje ordered that the investigating officer should appear before him to explain the delays stalling progress towards Mubaiwa’s prosecution.

Mubaiwa is also waiting for a ruling on her application for discharge at the close of the State’s case in another trial on charges of assaulting her former maid, Ms Delight Munyoro.

That ruling is expected this Wednesday and if the magistrate finds that she has a case to answer, then her defence will open. -Herald

Zanu PF Instructs City Council To Ban President Chamisa Rally

REF: CONCERN OVER THE ABUSE OF MUCHEKE STADIUM BY A POLITICAL PARTY AGAINST THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT.
The above matter refers.

You may be aware that, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa intends to host a rally on Sunday 14 August 2022. The rally will be hosted inside Mucheke Stadium.

Notwithstanding the fact that Chapter 291S, Second Schedule 198 Paragraph 43 of the Local Government Act prohibits the use of Mucheke Stadium for any political activities, the Zanu PF youth League is concerned that Masvingo City Council approved the use of Muchrke Stadium by CCC against laid out legal provisions.

Having said this, I pray that your highly venerated office addresses this irregularity before end of day today and that the above-mentioned political party, be redirected to a more suitable venue.

Brentford Slaughter Red Devils

30 years on, the Premier League is not giving up it’s license to thrill. 19 goals were scored this Saturday from 8 matches. Two of those games were nil all draws while 3 matches produced 4 or more goals. The fun and entertainment is all always diverse in this League!

Aston Villa 2 – 1 Everton

Former England team mates, and Premier League Hall of Fame inductees, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard faced off, this time as managers. The game was poised to be intense taking into account Steven Gerrard relationship with Everton. His charges did not disappoint and they secured a comfortable win with a sumptuous goal from Danny Ings in the first half and another goal from Emi Buendia later on. There were some nervy moments later on when Lucas Digne scored an Own Goal against his former team Everton. Coincidentally, this was his second ever Own Goal, with the first being against Aston Villa playing for Everton. Marvelous Nakamba was a notable absentee from the Villa bench with rumours that his team is ready to listen to offers to take him away from Villa Park.

Manchester City 4 – 0 AFC Bournemouth

The Guardiola train is not stopping any time soon. The new cog in their armour Erling Haaland is fitting beuatifully and Kevin De Bruyne keeps on reminding people why he is one of the best players of the game right now. City completely controlled and dominated the game and didn’t seem to be in the mood to let it all go. Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring early in the first half. Goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden sealed the game for City before the break. Jefferson Lerma added onto the misery with an own goal in the second half. Zimbabwean starlet, Jordan Zemura was missing from the squad after he contracted Covid 19.

Arsenal 4 – 2 Leicester City

After last week, when he impressed but didn’t score, it seemed like Gabriel Jesus was a man on a mission. This was his day and we were just there to observe and marvel. 4 goal contributions, 2 goals and 2 assists made sure that Arsenal didn’t let up on Leicester and they eventually took the three points. But Leicester we always going to be ready for a fight. An own goal from William Saliba and a goal from the ever-there James Maddison kept them in the game at some point but goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Granit Xhaka doused that fire. The big question now is can, Arsenal maintain their good form?

Brentford 4 – 0 Manchester United

Thomas Frank’s Bees played with a purpose and Manchester United were always destined to be second no matter what they seemed to try. A familiar mistake from David De Gea gave Brentford the lead via Josh DaSilva and from that moment it seemed like United were rocked to the core. Mathias Jensen scored in the 18th minute from another mistake and a drubbing was in the air. Cristiano Ronaldo resigned to his fate, started the game and he seemed to be irritated all game long and was barking admonitions at his teammates. But it wasn’t going to end there, a goal from Ben Mee in the 30th minute and another one 5 minutes later by Bryan Mbeumo made things worse for the erstwhile Red Devils. Their fate was written in the stars and their protesting fans at the away end witnessed the rot in the team even more clearly. The second half was marginally better but without goals scored, Brentford’s David Raya enjoyed his day between the sticks.

Brilliant Brazilians Bury Kaizer Chiefs

Zimbabwean winger Khama Billiat missed a second half penalty in Mamelodi Sundowns’ 4-0 demolition of Kaizer Chiefs in a DStv Premiership match played at Loftus Versfeld Stadium today.

The 31-year old has only scored one goal against his former paymaster and got the perfect opportunity to better that record when Chiefs were awarded a penalty in the 55th minute after Kgaogelo Sekgota was brought down in the box.

Billiat stepped up but Masandawana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams dived to his right to brilliantly deny the Zimbabwean.

Sundowns got their goals through Gastin Sirino, a brace from Peter Shalulile and Ethiopian hotshot Abubeker Nassir.-Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Mthwakazi Humiliates Chiwenga

Tinashe Sambiri|
The leader of Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) Mqondisi Moyo, has described Constantino Chiwenga as a crazy person.

This follows Chiwenga’s claim that his great grandmother was one of King Mzilikazi’s many wives.

Chiwenga further claimed that Mnangagwa’s grandfather, Mubengu, was taken when he was a little boy by Mzilikazi and was kept at the royal kraal until he was put in the Mbizo regiment.

The Mthwakazi leader, quoted by NewZimbabwe.com, dismissed Chiwenga’s remarks:

“The spirits of over 40,000 people they
massacred during Gukurahundi now making them go insane.

Why would both Chiwenga and Mnangagwa, as the nephews of Mthwakazi, kill their uncles?

Both of them Mnangagwa and Chiwenga), as the murderers of our people, are shedding crocodile tears on our people.

They are making Mthwakazi their playing ground. Why is it every time they say these sentiments when they are in Mthwakazi?

They can’t utter such nonsense in Mashonaland because they never perpetrated the Genocide that side.”

HIV/ AIDS: The Facts

HIV/AIDS remains one of the world’s most significant public health challenges, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

As a result of recent advances in access to antiretroviral therapy (ART), HIV-positive people now live longer and healthier lives. In addition, it has been confirmed that ART prevents onward transmission of HIV.

An estimated 28.7 million people were receiving HIV treatment in 2021. Globally, 75% of the 38.4 million people living with HIV in 2021 were receiving ART.

Progress has also been made in preventing and eliminating mother-to-child transmission and keeping mothers alive. In 2021, 81% of all pregnant women living with HIV, or 1.1 million women, received antiretrovirals (ARVs).

WHO has released a set of normative guidelines and provides support to countries in formulating and implementing policies and programmes to improve and scale up HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services for all people in need.

This fact file provides current data on the disease, and ways to prevent and treat it.

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infects cells of the immune system
Infection results in the progressive deterioration of the immune system, breaking down the body’s ability to fend off some infections and other diseases. AIDS (Acquired immune deficiency syndrome) refers to the most advanced stages of HIV infection, defined by the occurrence of any of more than 20 opportunistic infections or related cancers.

Access to preventive interventions remains limited in many low- and middle-income countries.

But progress has been made in some areas such as prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and keeping mothers alive. In 2021, 81% of all pregnant women living with HIV – 1.1 million women – received antiretrovirals worldwide. In 2015, Cuba was the first country declared by WHO as having eliminated mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis. By the end of 2021, 15 countries and territories were validated for eliminating mother-to-child HIV.

Mnangagwa Protects Murderers, Torments Innocent

Tinashe Sambiri|The Zanu PF leader Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration has acquitted Henrietta Rushwaya as CCC officials Hon Job Wiwa Sikhala and Hon Godfrey Karakadzai Sithole languish in prison.

In a statement on Friday, CCC Namibia accused Mr Mnangagwa of protecting thieves and murderers while innocent citizens are facing relentless presecution.

CCC Namibia says Rushwaya’s acquittal is a travesty of justice.

Read statement below:

Henrietta Rushwaya’s acquittal raises eyebrows:CCC Namibia demands justice for Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala & others.

12 August 2022

Today, our outspoken change champions Hon Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala, Godfrey Karakadzayi Sithole, and the Nyatsime 14 have clocked 58 days at Chikurubi Maximum Prison on trumped-up charges for demanding justice and an abrupt end to the incessant gross abuse of the fundamental basic freedoms in the motherland. It is quite infuriating that real criminals are acquitted every day because they are politically aligned to the repressive and authoritarian regime led by Mr. Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Yesterday we glimpsed the illegal acquittal of a criminal who was caught smuggling 6kilograms of gold to Dubai. Henrietta Rushwaya’s recent discharge epitomises how selective application of the law is being exploited to punish the innocent and release genuine criminals because they support ZANU-PF. This astronomical levels of impunity unearths the regime’s serious capture of our rotten justice system. Citizens in Namibia are also cobra-headed to witness Obadiah Moyo walking away with 60 million US$ covid funds in 2020 without proper prosecution.

More so, the Namibia district is so perturbed that those who are siphoning national resources through hook and crook are walking scot-free when Wiwa, the lawyer for the deceased is languishing in the hell-hole of Chikurubi Maximum Prison for speaking the truth to power against enforced disappearances, gross misgovernance and unprecedented corruption. It is now imperative that our judiciary, police, and government should commence respecting the rule of law and constitutionalism. Separation of powers is enshrined in the supreme law of the motherland hence the Executive should not interfere with court officials discharging their duties. The clueless ZANU-PF regime must halt its manipulation of state institutions.

Furthermore, we are cognizant of the fact that our toiling is authored by the stomach politicians who are eating on behalf of the downtrodden masses of Zimbabwe. We strongly challenge the impunity and immunity of ZANU-PF corrupters and butchers who are escaping the wrath of the law because of their political inclinations. Chombo, Mupfumira, Obadiah Moyo, Chivhayo, Henrietta Rushwaya only to mention but a few are criminals who should be housed in the filthy Chikurubi Maximum Prison because they are authentic thieves. Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala and others are just prisoners of conscience tortured to deter social democrats from amplifying their revolutionary voices against maladministration in the satanic regime.

Moreover, citizens must wake up and smell the coffee! This is the opportune time to demonstrate solidarity with the incarcerated so that we rejuvenate their fighting spirit. Citizens in Namibia urge all Zimbabweans across the globe to pent up their outrage and peacefully demand the immediate release of Sikhala and others. The continued incarceration of these freedom leaders is a clear attempt by the corrupt regime to silence the voices of dissent ahead of the 2023 historic elections. Citizens must register to vote against impunity and lawfare. It is now clear that Sikhala and others are political prisoners who are enduring inhuman treatment at the hands of dictators desperate to retain power at all costs.

Let’s all register to vote for independent state institutions in 2023, we are now sick and exhausted of these shenanigans which punish the innocent and spare bona fide thieves and killers because of their political homes. We can’t continue with biased judges who take instructions from the SHAKE SHAKE building. The judiciary should follow the supreme law of the country in a constitutional democracy. Citizens should amplify their voices against this seriou state capture of all state organizations.

Free all our change champions and imprison real looters and murderers in ZANU-PF.

Former Wife, Children Hauled To Court Over Mubobobo Accusations

By A Correspondent- A man from Zvishavane dragged his former wife and children to Zvishavane Magistrates Court on Friday for accusing him of using mubobobo.

Mubobobo is a form of witchcraft in which a man has mysterious s3_x with women without their consent and knowledge.

Chrispen Marangwanda is seeking a protection order against his former wife Ngonidzashe, his daughter Vongai and his son Brian Mavunike Marangwanda. He is accusing them of using violence against him.

Marangwanda told Resident Magistrate Archie Wochiunga that the former wife and children are accusing him of possessing traditional charm, ‘Mubobobo’ and a goblin. They allege that this charm caused the death of Brian’s daughter.

“Your Worship, the respondents are my children tormenting, insulting and accusing me of being a wizard, yet I have never associated with such. This is why I have approached this court seeking relief “, said Marangwanda.

He feared for his life.

Vongai dismissed the allegations as a lie.

“My father is lying before the court. We were told by one Madzibaba Moses that we need to cleanse our home, but my father is refusing to go through the process.

Brian said he was not aware of why he was in court because he was not aware of the issues.

Ngonidzashe said her former husband was avoiding the issue of cleansing the home.

Magistrate Wochiunga granted the protection order and said the respondents should stop harassing, insulting and forcing the applicant to do what Madzibaba Moses instructed them to do.

Police Reject Police Post “Donated” By CCC MP

By A Correspondent- Opposition Chitungwiza South legislator Maxwell Mavhunga’s efforts to establish a satellite police base in Unit L have hit a brick wall after the law enforcement agency thwarted the initiative

Mavhunga had moved in to construct a two-roomed satellite police post using the Community Development Fund (CDF) in 2020, but the building is now a white elephant after police refused to accept it.

The project was initially supported by the former Chitungwiza Police Station officer-in-charge, Inspector Charles Mutabvuka, who advised Mavhunga to communicate with the Police General Headquarters (PGHQ).

In an interview, the MP narrated how he was moved to construct the police post following numerous requests from residents.

Soon after my election in 2018, I was inundated by calls by residents from the Chigumba area who were reporting various crimes ranging from domestic violence, murders, armed robberies and fights in public,” Mavhunga said.

“There was no nearby police base or station serving this huge population.

The nearest is a police post at Chirenje Shopping Centre in Unit M near Jambanja Market, which is about 5km away.

“This is not ideal because there are several shopping centres that have emerged in Ward 18, which includes Sokomhenyu and also where a lot of crimes are committed during the night.”

He added: “After the resignation of Matabvuka, we wrote several letters to his successor Zalawe, who referred us to PGHQ, which kept on saying that it was looking into the matter until we finished the project in 2020.

At one point I even filed a complaint against the police after they told me that my letter was missing.

The amount received and injected into the project was equivalent to US$2 000.

Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi confirmed to The Standard that the law enforcement agency refused to accept the satellite post saying it was built unprocedurally

“Records with officer commanding Police Harare Province show that the alleged base was built without proper and conclusive verification and follow up inspection proved it was not needed at the sited place as crime records revealed low statistics,” Nyathi said.

“The legislator is urged to engage the local officer commanding police district to get an appreciation of the suitable place where a base can be sited

Mavhunga said he had big plans to modernise the base.

“This was going to be a state-of-the-art structure.

“We had planned to put in an air conditioner, provide computers and to create a waiting area,” he said.

“We were also putting in cells which were going to have a separate toilet.

“All these ideas went down the drain as police started giving us a cold shoulder.”

Police suffer resource constraints due to underfunding. For the 2022 fiscal year, the ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, under which the Zimbabwe Republic Police falls, was allocated a total of $49,4 billion.

Zanu PF Member Arrested For Shooting-Down Mnangagwa

People are suffering out there and our structures are empty vanhu have lost confidence in the party because they feel neglected… If that can be fixed zvoreruka… I remember the genius Robert Mugabe during time yema interface, vanhu vachichema so achitaura nekufara mdara uyu addressing issues that would have been raised at Provincial level… President ngavaudzwe zviri pa ground zvaminama.

Translated to say in short the current president is not doing enough to address the socio-economic issues.

The state says Masari insulted the President by comparing him with the late former president Robert Mugabe, that is to say, the current President performing below par.

By- The opposition CCC has confirmed the attendance of the party leader, Nelson Chamisa, at today’s rally in Masvingo’s Mucheke rally.

This is despite Zanu PF’s attempts to block the opposition’s thank you meeting with Masvingo supporters.

CCC posted early Sunday:

MASVINGO THANK YOU RALLY: Today, we thank citizens of Masvingo at Mucheke Stadium for their huge support of the Yellow Movement at the last by election. The celebration rally will be addressed by our Change Champion in Chief.

Zanu PF Attempts To Block Chamisa Masvingo Rally

By- Zanu PF in Masvingo has directed the local Council to bar the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) from holding a rally at Mucheke Stadium.

The ruling party said using Mucheke Stadium was against the Local Government Act.

In a letter sent to Masvingo City Council, Zanu PF Youth League Secretary for Administration in Masvingo Province, Charles Munganasa known as Tutorial, gave Town clerk a few hours to “address this irregularity.”

Reads Munganasa’s letter dated 13 August 2022:

To The Town Clerk. Masvingo City Council

Eng E. Mukaratirwa

Thanking you in advance.

Yours Comradely

CDE CHARLES MUNGANASA

Kenya Elections- Ruto Congratulates Winners

By- Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential candidate William Ruto has sent a congratulatory message to the coalition’s aspirants who secured seats in Tuesday’s General Election.

The Deputy President especially lauded the female leaders who have been elected in various capacities across the country, saying they had broken barriers. He posted on Twitter on Saturday:

Congratulations to all election winners. In particular, we celebrate the many women who have broken barriers to climb the political ladder. Best wishes as you embark on your new responsibilities. Hustlers are counting on you.

Meanwhile, vote tallying entered its fourth day on Friday at the national tallying centre in Bomas of Kenya, Nairobi.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is expected to have announced the results for all the various seats by Monday, August 15, per the law, which gives it seven days to tally and announce the results.

Preliminary presidential election results suggest that there is a tight race between William Ruto and veteran opposition leader, Raila Odinga.

South African Nabbed For Stealing Copper Cables In Zim

By- A South African national has been arrested for stealing Copper cables in Zimbabwe.

Siyabonga Ntombela (32) was arrested with his five Zimbabwean colleagues at Beitbridge Border Post on Friday after they were found possessing more than 1 500 kgs of copper cables.

A joint team of ZESA loss control officers, the police and other security officers arrested the six.

The other five Zimbabweans are:

1). Gift Ndlovu (25) of Bubi,

2). Emmanuel Mdlongwa (30) of Pumula East,

3). Aleck Maseko (28) of Gwabalanda,

4). Proud Mkwebu (24) of Old Magwagwe and

5). Nomathamsanqa Ncube (38) of Nguboyenja

They were arrested after failing to account for the 1 693 kgs loot of copper cables they were found in possession of at the border post.

ZESA general manager – stakeholder relations communications and welfare Dr George Manyaya confirmed the development. He told The Sunday Mail:

Our ZESA Loss Control team embarked on a nationwide anti-vandalism joint campaign with ZRP and other security forces. It was during the blitz that they managed to nab the suspects who had in their possession 1 693 kgs of copper cables. Electricity is a key enabler to the attainment of the goals and aspirations of Vision 2030 hence we condemn such acts.

Zimbabwe is strategically located in terms of electricity transmission and distribution in what we call the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) hence it plays a key role in terms of the transmission and distribution of electricity to other countries, be it Zambia, South Africa, Mozambique and other regional countries. As such the destruction of such infrastructure which are the backbone of our existence is detrimental. It is economic sabotage. We would like to thank members of the public and the security forces for their continued effort in safeguarding the utility’s property.

ZESA has in the past attributed some power cuts witnessed countrywide to vandalism of its properties including transformers and cables.

Thieves risk 30-year-jail terms.

Kenya Elections-Baba Leads Presidential Race

By Reuters – Kenya’s long-time opposition leader Raila Odinga is leading Kenya’s presidential race, official election results showed on Saturday, pushing Deputy President William Ruto into second place.

Odinga is also known as Baba (Father) by his supporters.
With just over 26% of votes counted, Odinga had 54% and Ruto had 45%, according to results provided by the Kenyan election commission and displayed on a large screen at a national tallying center in the capital, Nairobi, at midday.

East Africa’s wealthiest nation and most vibrant democracy held presidential, parliamentary and local elections on Tuesday.
Ruto and Odinga are in a tight race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, who has reached his two-term limit. Kenyatta fell out with Ruto after the last election and has endorsed Odinga.
Official vote tallying has been proceeding slowly, fueling public anxiety. read more
Election commission chairman Wafula Chebukati blamed party agents, who are allowed to scrutinise results forms before they are added to the final tally.

“Agents in this exercise cannot proceed … as if we are doing a forensic audit,” he told a news briefing on Friday.
“We are not moving as fast as we should. This exercise needs to be concluded as soon as possible.”
Representatives from Odinga and Ruto’s coalitions did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Reuters news agency and other media outlets have been tallying results forms from 291 constituencies posted on the election commission website. These have not yet been verified, and this tally is running well ahead of the official one.

As of 2100 GMT, Reuters had tallied 241 forms, which showed Ruto in the lead with nearly 52.3% of the vote, compared to 47% for Odinga. Two other candidates had less than 1% between them.
Thirty other forms could not be included in the count because they were unreadable or were missing information such as signatures, constituency names, or totals.
The forms Reuters is tallying are preliminary and the results subject to change. After the forms are uploaded to the commission’s website, Kenyan election law requires that they are physically brought to the national tallying center, where party representatives can examine them for any discrepancies.
The process was designed as a safeguard against the kind of rigging allegations that have triggered violence after previous polls. More than 1,200 people were killed after a disputed 2007 election and more than 100 killed after a disputed 2017 election.
The winning candidate must receive 50% of the national vote plus one, and at least 25% of the vote from 24 of 47 counties.
Reuters was not able to ascertain the official tally at 2100 in the national tallying center as the screens were displaying other information.
The commission has until Tuesday to declare a winner.

Nurses Recruitment Hijacked By Zanu PF

THE Zanu PF Youth League (YL) has ordered all government hospitals offering general nurse training courses across the country to only enrol candidates it has vetted and approved.

All party provincial youth chairpersons have consequently been instructed to compile lists of prospective candidates for enrolment.

A recent circular to chairpersons written by youth league national health secretary, Luckmore Gapa, exposes the ruling party’s interference in the recruitment process.

Reads the circular: “Please can you compile names and CVs of all our youths who applied and who have the qualifications for general nurses intake in all our province. Please send all CVs and names through your Provincial Youth Chairman…”

Deadline for submission was Tuesday, August 9, 2022

Zanu PF youth affairs deputy secretary, John Paradza told NewZimbabwe.com Thursday he was not aware of the exercise, saying those behind the circular would be sanctioned.

“This is not our official position. To set the record straight, all our circulars can only be issued by the National Deputy Secretary for youth affairs, with the Zanu PF logo. So I think this one was created by someone in his or her personal capacity,” said Paradza.

However, investigations by NewZimbabwe.com revealed hordes of aspiring trainees had submitted their CVs to various chairpersons, with one official confiding in this journalist that the response was overwhelming.

In recent years, and in the wake of growing unemployment, Zanu PF has been interfering in job recruitment processes at government institutions and private firms.

The most recent case was the conscription of the 2022 National Census enumerators, who were seconded by the party in a bid to pacify dissent against joblessness among youths.

Kombi Crew Nabbed For Bashing Cops

By- Two overzealous police details were beaten up by a Glen Norah Kombi crew in Harare.

However, the kombi crew has been arrested and charged with assault and kidnapping.

NewZimbabwe.com reports that the duo, Shepherd and Allen Zharare, in that order, are aged 30 and 18.

They briefly appeared before Harare magistrate, Yeukai Dzuda, Thursday charged with assault, resisting law officers and kidnapping.

The Zharare siblings will be back in court Friday for bail application.

According to prosecutors, the two work as commuter omnibus (Kombi) driver and conductor respectively.

Prosecutors told the court that on the 9th of August, along Mbuya Nehanda and Charter Road in Harare, Shepherd was driving a Toyota Hiace and allegedly resisted arrest after he stopped at an undesignated place to pick up passengers.

The court heard Allen and two others, who are still at large, were touting for passengers when Constables Memory Manyande and Pindire Cairo, who were on duty, then pronounced the arrest of the four.

The police officers allegedly boarded the kombi and instructed the driver to drive to Harare Central Police Station.

He then drove off at high speed along Simon Mazorodze and out of town to Southerton.

They later stopped and pushed the police officers out of the vehicle and they sustained injuries which are yet to be treated.

The court heard the team also assaulted the officers with clenched fists and open hands, knowing very well that they were law enforcement agents.

They also deprived the peace officers of bodily movement when they locked them up in the vehicle.

RBZ Shoots Down 97 Entities With Hefty Fines

At least 97 companies, excluding those in the financial services sector, have been fined as much as US$20 000 by the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) for offences ranging from failure to report suspicious transactions, laxity in conducting customer due diligence to neglecting the need to undertake money laundering assessment risks.
The entities fall under the designated non-financial businesses and professions (DNFBPs), and include real estate agents, corporate trusts, accounting and auditing firms, law firms, car dealers and casino operators.

However, most of the penalised firms are in the real estate sector, followed by dealers in precious stones and precious metals.

FIU recently launched a blitz against organisations involved in illicit financial transactions that are destabilising the exchange rate and prices.

FIU director-general Mr Oliver Chiperesa told The Sunday Mail that the DNFBPs had been advised to put in place measures to prevent illicit transactions.

“In the last three weeks we have sent out penalty letters to 97 entities or the so-called designated non-financial businesses and professions (DNFBPs),” Mr Chiperesa said.

“There are six categories of DNFBPs, the so-called professional gatekeepers who are required to implement measures to help prevent entry of illicit proceeds into the financial system.

“The six categories are: law firms, accounting firms, estate agents, casinos, precious stone and precious metal dealers, car dealers and trust and corporate service providers (company and trust formation / management agents). They have not been adhering to their statutory obligations under the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act.”

In the past, he said, the regulatory approach in terms of fighting money laundering and terrorism financing has been focusing on banks and other non-bank financial institutions.

“But criminals have been increasingly making use of and abusing the other designated professions to mask and give credibility to their illegal transactions, hence the new shift to require DNFBPs to also implement robust anti-money laundering measures,” he said.

The real estate sector, at 72, has the highest number of sanctioned DNFBPs, followed by dealers in precious stones and precious metals (20), accounting and auditing firms (three), trust and corporate service providers (one) and casinos (one).

Real Estate Institute of Zimbabwe (REIZ) president Dr Mike Juru welcomed the FIU’s blitz, saying they do not condone such illegal activities. –Sunday Mail

By A Correspondent | An NGO worker, Thandekile Moyo has written asking when the CCC leader Nelson Chamisa will hand over power to someone else.

Writing on Saturday, she indicated she expects a politician to step down when they have failed to take over power.

“If ZANU PF rigs again, will Chamisa contest again in 2028?,” she asked.

She then printed a list of different people who include, the jonny-come-late ZANU PF daughter of privilege, and unapologetic Presidential wishful, Fadzayi Mahere.

Mnangagwa Can’t Erase History- Biti

Chiwenga Is Crazy- Mthwakazi

Former Bosso Star Bemoans Poor Football Administration In Zim

Former Highlanders and CAPS United winger Gabriel Nyoni believes it’s high time football stakeholders in Zimbabwe peacefully demonstrate against the manner in which the game is being administered.

Zimbabwe is currently on a FIFA suspension for what the world governing body termed ‘third party interference’ after the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC)’s suspended the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA executive.

Consequently, Zimbabwe has missed out on AFCON 2023 and CHAN qualifiers, the 2022 Cosafa Cup and clubs won’t take part in CAF’s inter-club competitions, as FIFA insists the sanction can only be lifted upon the unconditional reinstatement of Kamambo.

Nyoni believes the current state of Zimbabwean football is a huge setback for young players and it’s high time the game’s stakeholders take action.

“Peaceful demonstration against poor football governance, boycott football matches as a sign to show we want a better football environment for our country,” said Nyoni when asked of the way forward.

“We will keep quiet until when. We need a leader amongst the people that desires a better football industry for our country.

“Imagine a young footballer trains and prays hard to one day be noticed by a club outside the country for him to earn a better living. How many get to go outside the country? only 5 %.

“What is happening to the rest of the players? Of course they will finish their careers with absolute nothing. Our nation was banned, our clubs are not included in CAF draws and the state of our football stadiums is just pathetic to say the least, what else do we need to know, to start acting as football stakeholders?

“I dont need to wait to be one of the football leaders in our country to take action, we need to do it now as a collective. Fans are pissed off, players are suffering and only a handful are benefiting from such a situation,” added Nyoni.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Riot Police Disrupt President Chamisa Rally In Chipinge

Breaking News

Now Armed riot police and police dogs at CCC Chipinge rally venue: As Zanu PF instructs police to ban CCC Rally in rural Chipinge

As police and High Court banned CCC rally in Chipinge

13th August 2022

Wezhira Munya

Zimbabwe Republic police Superintendent G. Chinyanganya for Chipinge District banned today’s CCC Thank You Rally. President Chamisa was supposed to address the rally at Kondo ward 16.

The police banned CCC Rally because Zanu PF is holding its meeting at Musapingura Primary School.

In the prohibiting CCC supporters from holding their Rally, police superintendent Chinyanganya writes: “l am worried that with such proximity your party CCC members are likely to repeat an act of violence which is on record at ZRP Middle Sabi where we experienced an attack on ruling party members by about 50 members of your party who were celebrating the by elections victory of ward 16.”

The above allegations have been refuted by CCC champion Mr Raphias Sithole.

Interestingly, Zanu PF members are currently holding meeting at Musapingura Primary School near Kondo area where CCC was supposed to hold its Thank You Rally. Zanu PF is holding this meeting without police clearance.

After police banned the Chipinge Thank You Rally , CCC leaders approach Mutare High Court to issue court order nullifying rally ban. Unfortunately, the High Court judge agreed with the police to ban CCC Rally.

President Chamisa writes on his Twitter confirming that the rally has been cancelled. President Chamisa writes: “THEY ARE SCARED & VERY AFRAID.
-The police banned our Chipinge Citizens Thank you Rally.
-We went to the High Court (Mutare) yesterday to challenge the ban.
-The court agreed with the police prohibiting the rally.
It’s a real fight and we will WIN this fight”

Now, heavily armed police with police dogs are at Kondo in Chipinge where CCC was supposed to hold its rally. Police heavy presence at Kondo shows that Zimbabwe democratic space is not free and fair.

Chiwenga, Mnangagwa Threaten Innscor

A TENSE meeting between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Innscor Africa shareholders over allegations of fuelling currency volatilities rocking the market had a chilling effect after Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga reportedly issued a strong warning against the conglomerate, saying government would treat “economic saboteurs” as enemies of the state.

This was revealed by highly placed sources who told the Zimbabwe Independent this week that Chiwenga’s threats left the business executives “shaken”.

Chiwenga, a former Zimbabwe Defence Forces commander, reportedly told Innscor bosses to “shape up or ship out”.

The company has a bold footprint with numerous investments in the fast food sector under Simbisa Brands, National Foods, Irvines, Associated Meat Packers, Prodairy, NatPak, Profeeds, Probottlers, Colcom Foods and National Foods Logistics. It also wholly owns the Botswana Milling and Produce Company.

The meeting comes at a time Mnangagwa’s administration has declared war on what it perceives to be “saboteurs”, frustrating its efforts to turn around Zimbabwe’s fragile economy choked by spiking inflation, currency turbulence and skyrocketing prices.

With Zimbabwe effectively now buffeted by inflationary headwinds, the southern African country swung into the triple figure inflation zone, which saw figures rising to 256% in July from 191,6% in June.

The highly charged meeting, held at Munhumutapa Building, which houses the President’s offices arose over delays by Innscor to settle a hefty loan to various financial institutions, believed to be running into billions of dollars, sources told the Independent.

The explosive meeting was held in May this year, shortly after fiscal and monetary authorities directed financial institutions to suspend lending to its customers, as the government stepped up efforts to stop the economy from haemorrhaging.

In separate briefings, sources said at the meeting chaired by Mnangagwa, Innscor’s proprietors (names supplied) were summoned to explain their borrowing history. The state blamed high parallel foreign currency exchange rates to excessive borrowing.

As narrated by sources, a livid Chiwenga, reportedly ordered Innscor bosses to put their house in order or risk consequences of being treated as enemies of the state.

“During the tense discussions, Chiwenga went ballistic. He told the Innscor proprietors that he wanted them to commit to a holistic solution with Mnangagwa.

“In blunt terms, and evoking his military background to the visibly frightened executives, Chiwenga told them that, ‘I am a soldier, and I consider economic saboteurs as enemies. For every enemy there is a bullet,” a source who spoke on condition of anonymity said.

At that stage of the meeting, sources added, the company’s shareholders then pleaded for time to settle the several amounts owed to various banks.

“After Chiwenga bellowed his orders to the executives, the frightened Innscor shareholders pleaded for clemency and requested time to come up with a repayment plan,” another top government official said.

“As we speak, Innscor is repaying the debt to the banks.”

Officials from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ), Treasury and other government departments are said to have attended the hostile meeting, according to the sources.

Innscor board chairperson Addington Chinake, after being quizzed on the agenda and outcome of the said meeting, referred questions to President Mnangagwa’s office.

“I am not available, (I am) outside Zimbabwe. Kindly contact the Presidium for comment,” Chinake said in a brief response texted on WhatsApp. Efforts to get a comment from Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Misheck Sibanda were in vain as his phone went unanswered.

The reported meeting comes barely two years after Chiwenga summarily fired all nurses who had embarked on industrial action over low salaries while threatening to do the same against doctors.

The development follows reports that a crack team drawn from law enforcement agents had launched a probe into business executives suspected of destabilising the economy through currency manipulating and undermining government efforts to arrest inflation and skyrocketing prices.

High-level officials the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ)’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc), and the Special AntiCorruption Unit in the Office of the President and Cabinet (Sacu) also confirmed the crackdown.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi also confirmed the investigations adding that the police would issue full details while sources said a number of business executives had been summoned by the ZRP Criminal Investigations Department’s (CID) Commercial Crimes Division in connection with investigations into economic sabotage in Zimbabwe. Insccor was one of the companies identified by the FIU for fuelling speculative borrowing on the market after accessing billions in loans.

About ARVs, HIV/ AIDS

Chiwenga, Mnangagwa Mad : Mthwakazi

Gvt Reveals What Zimbos In SA Can Bring Home Duty Free

By A Correspondent- It’s four months until Zimbabweans in South Africa under the Zimbabwe Exemption Permits (ZEP) dispensation will be deemed illegal immigrants, after the South African government decided to discontinue these permits.

About 200 000 Zimbabweans living and working in South Africa are set to leave the country and return to their homeland.

While many are hoping for a reprieve, Zimbabwe’s foreign affairs and international relations minister Frederick Shava said this week that those returning “are always welcome back home”.

Shava was in Pretoria to meet with his South African counterpart Naledi Pandor.

Those returning can bring a motor vehicle of their choice into the country without having to pay duty fees, but they will have to pay VAT of 14.5%.

Normally, duty for a private vehicle in Zimbabwe is 100% of its value, including freight charges, so only paying 14.5% is a significant reprieve.

The car should not be older than 10 years. Anyone bringing a car from South Africa needs to have owned it for at least six months before the expiry of their permit.

Anyone over the age of 16 can bring in a vehicle, according to a notice by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority.

The notice read:

The suspension is granted to individuals, including their spouses and children, who have previously resided or have been employed in Zimbabwe and are returning to Zimbabwe after having resided outside Zimbabwe for a period of not less than two years.”

The car should be worth R700 000 or less. The owner will also need to “report to the nearest customs office once every year, failure of which full duty waived at the time of importation shall become due and payable”.

There’s no limit to personal property such as furniture and household goods that people can bring back home. These goods, unlike vehicles, aren’t subject to import duty.

Those intending to use the duty-free import facility should present proof that they were working or studying in South Africa.

If the goods are sold within the first two years, then duty becomes due.

The Zimbabwean government has no policy in place or grants for returning nationals to start a new venture or business when they arrive home, and most returning residents will have to depend on their savings.

The government plans to hire buses to take those who cannot afford to pay for their transport to various parts of Zimbabwe.

Shava said:

“This has been on the cards for some time since the South African government pronounced the end of ZEP permits.

“Zimbabweans are also aware of a time limit. We will be working on the logistics of receiving them when they come.

Fine For People Who Refuse Marriage Proposal

By A Correspondent- People who refuse a marriage proposal in Mangalmé in north-eastern Chad must now pay a fine, known as “amchilini”.

The region’s Higher Islamic Council ruled that the figure be between $23 (£18) and $39 for women and $15 for men.

The Chadian Women’s Rights League has launched the hashtag #StopAmchilini to denounce the decision, saying it is illegal as it violates a national law guaranteeing freedom of consent to marriage.

The Islamic Council says its decision was inspired by the Quran. Forced marriages are prevalent in Chad, with young under-age girls the usual victims.

Despite a law passed in 2015 that prohibits child marriages, 60 percent of women aged between 20 and 24 were married when they were still children, according to figures from Chad’s Institute of Statistics.

ED Warns CSOs

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has warned Civil Society Organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations against trying to lecture Zimbabweans on how they should behave.

Those CSO and NGO should know their role which is to support various economic en devours of a nation not to lecture on how we must be ourselves. We are already ourselves,” he says.

Speaking when he officially opened the the inaugural Zimbabwe Economic Development Conference (ZEDCON) 2022 in Victoria Falls today, Mnangagwa urged Zimbabweans not spend time envying other economies but to spend time improving their own economy.

“Let’s remain cognizant of the fact that trans formative measures are required to attain vision 2030,” he said.

Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa has promised to deal with what he calls market indiscipline

“My government will institute measures to boost confidence in economy while dealing with market indiscipline. I urge everyone to recommit to building the economy and country through love, unity and honesty,” he said.

The conference is hosted by the Ministry of Finance and running under the theme, “Accelerating economic transformation through evidence-based policy making”.

Air Zim-the Missing Link in President ED’s Economic Revival Efforts

By Xavier Zavare | Air travel, the phenomenon that connects the spheres of this earth, enabling the peoples of this world to keep commerce going and physical interactions of humans living far away from each other possible. Travelling by air is an essential aspect of our modern lives in a world so globalised. The convenience of being able to be on the other half of the world within half a day or less to conduct business, move lifesaving, essential cargo, important travel to support sick relatives, bury a loved one or just leisure moments with family and friends is now an integral part of our lives. And this has all become possible due to airline travel.

Those responsible for manufacturing aeroplanes have also introduced comfort to air travel, particularly on long haul flights with main commercial flights manufacturers, US based Boeing and European based Airbus competing to provide unprecedent speedy and comfortable planes for air travellers. The average Boeing Dreamliner plane has luxurious things such as onboard Wi-Fi even for travellers in the infamous Economy class, so does the Airbus A380, which has also increased leg space for the comfort of a long-haul traveller. Some journeys have also become shorter, such that it is now the norm to travel from London to Johannesburg in about 11 hours 10mins, a journey that used to be 15+ hours.

Economic Enabler
As air travel has increased, many governments have recognised how having reliable air connectivity is essential for boosting their economies. Captains of industries want the ability and convenience of being able to travel for business, covering ground as quickly as possible, get on the plane back to their bases or to another country for more business opportunities.
Thus, we witness countries such as United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Ethiopia investing in modern fleets of aeroplanes. Through their airlines namely, Emirates Airlines, Qatar Airways and Ethiopian Airlines respectively, these countries have spread their wings, with routes that cover over half of the major cities of the world such as London, New York, Dubai, Beijing, Shanghai. In fact, almost European and African major cities have one these three plying their skies. Add to that British Airways, part owned by the British Government, KLM by the Dutch, and Lufthansa by the Germans.
Whereas there are arguments that by and large, commercial airlines business is not that profitable, particularly for long haul flights, there is also a justified recognition of the enormous economic advantages and benefits derived from having a reliable airline in one’s country.

With President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government placing emphasis on economic development and growth as espoused in the Vision2030 policy, it comes as no surprise to see his government appointing a new substantive board at the nation’s flag carrier Air Zimbabwe as reported in the Herald of 1 August 2022. We should be in no doubt, the new board has its work cut out in this very competitive and ever evolving air travel industry. It will take a while for Air Zimbabwe to go back to what it was once famous for, efficiency with its motto of, “A tradition of caring”.

However, there are some low hanging fruits for the board which can restore confidence in the airline’s name even as it technically boosts economic activities.

Diaspora Market.
At the height of its success, Zimbabwe’s national airline dominated the domestic, regional, and international air travel market. It was an airline of choice for many destined for Zimbabwe or London in the era of British Airways, Qantas of Australia, KML and Lufthansa Germans Airlines. Air Zimbabwe was hospitable, professionally run and had tasty food supplied by Catercraft, a company which employed thousands of people. It had a competitive reputation for safety and reliability. One would expect that the new Air Zimbabwe board will be able to quickly identify that the country has a population which is very ‘air-mobile’ hence the likes of Emirates, Qatar, Kenyan Airways, Ethiopian Airlines and RwandAir regard Zimbabwe as a lucrative destination worth investing in. Some of these airlines have increased their services to the country and extended their operations to one of the best tourist resort places in the world, the Victoria Falls.
Zimbabwe’s diaspora population based in Dubai or London is making these airlines profitable, leading to the expansion of their operations. Air Zimbabwe board would do well to explore how the airline can benefit from a combination of resident Zimbabweans’ enthusiasm to travel for business and leisure to cities such as Dubai, London, and Beijing.

A quick market survey and feasibility study would inform the airline that Zimbabweans are in desperate need of their airline to service routes such as the Harare to London, London to Harare with a direct flight.
The London to Harare and reverse journey, professionally run, would be the springboard of the Air Zimbabwe’s long-awaited revival. Currently, investors from London or Zimbabwe’s strong diaspora population numbering over 500 000 according to the last UK census of 2021 are having to endure an average 20-hour flights to reach Harare. A journey to Dubai or Qatar from London is about 7 hours while going almost an opposition direction to Harare.

Yet a direct Air Zimbabwe flight would average about 10 and half hours from London to Harare and vice versa, reducing the journey time by half. Imagine how convenient it would be for someone coming from London to catch a flight that arrives in Harare in the morning, for example at 6:00am as what used to happen. Conduct their business and be able to travel back in London the next day, or even be on the same day 7:00pm flight to Qatar or Dubai for business or leisure. Such is the convenience of a direct Air Zimbabwe flight to the lucrative route between Harare and London or Dubai, currently the most popular destinations for Zimbabweans.

Even a small country with a population less than 300 000 such as Barbados has direct flights to its capital from London, and the Caribbean country benefits immensely from such. How much more would Zimbabwe benefit from the amount of travel by its own citizens and those travelling for tourism from other capital cities of the world.

Passengers’ numbers in all classes, business/first class and economy have been on the increase between London and Harare. So too has been export cargo, with exporting and importing Zimbabweans as well as the much-courted foreign investors having to depend on Ethiopian Airlines or Kenyans.

Airways for their cargo movements or faster flights to Harare. Even those, take about 16 hours to reach Harare.
The new Air Zimbabwe board would do well to think seriously about what makes the airline relevant and profitable again. Start with a weekly or twice a week direct flights on the routes that used to be oversubscribed for the airline and continues to reward the foreign airlines currently operating, albeit with frustrating stopovers in Addis Ababa- Lusaka for Ethiopian Airlines, Dubai- Lusaka for Emirates and Doha-Lusaka for Qatar and Nairobi with Kenyan Airways.

There is no need for an open for business country to make investors be they foreign or its diaspora population to endure such torturous long journeys via these cities. Air Zimbabwe has a ripe and ready market, the country’s ever increasing, travel loving diaspora population. The land reform farmers who are now producing for the export markets, need an airline that takes their fresh produce etc to world markets quickly. And Air Zimbabwe is the missing cog in the economic recovery led by His Excellency President Mnangagwa.

Debt.

There has been a mistaken belief that Air Zimbabwe cannot travel to London as it faces being ‘attached’ or impounded due to un-serviced London Gatwick debts. A simple enquiry from Gatwick airport authorities confirms that Air Zimbabwe long cleared its debts.

In fact, an Air Zimbabwe senior staff member privy to the matter confirms that the former Chief Executive and now Board Member Mr Edmund Makona lead the debt restructuring negotiations that resulted in Air Zimbabwe initially paying a one of payment of £700 000, with subsequent monthly payments of £140 000 over a 6-month period leading to the nearly £1.6milion debt being paid off. There is no plausible reason, why Air Zimbabwe cannot fly into London or Europe apart from attracting pilots who have enough skills, experience, and requisite hours to fly the type of planes needed for long haul flights. Air Zimbabwe currently have none and needs to rectify that urgently.

The only debts, Air Zimbabwe has is to travel agencies who are still to take advantage of the payment arrangement plan the airline put in place a few years ago. And those debts have no meaningful effect on the airline’s operations.

Competition or Saboteurs
As with any business, Air Zimbabwe will have to contend with competition from other players already plying key, lucrative routes. However, it is intra- saboteurs that it should worry the most about. At its best, Air Zimbabwe can compete with any other airline out there. For the airline to be competitive, it will have to be thorough in its recruitment of both ground staff and cabin crew members.

There is no room for nepotistic recruitment or having impolite staff who think passengers must curtsy to them, whereas the opposite should be happening as without these important travellers, there are no jobs for them, there is no Air Zimbabwe. Providing excellent, professional customer service should be the hallmark of the country’s flagship airline. A tradition of caring should be revived from the office cleaners to the most senior member of the board of management. No excuses, delays and cancellations should be minimised to less than zero percent.

Be professional.
The board should also be careful of potential sabotage from other internal airlines as well as international ones who already know that an efficiently run Air Zimbabwe with direct flights to strategic, lucrative international destinations such as London is a force to reckon with in the air travel industry.

Conclusion
With innovative thinking, sound management, strong, meaningful government support such as given to Emirates, Qatar Airways or Ethiopian Airlines, the skies can be Air Zimbabwe again. And Zimbabweans, both abroad and at home, are ever ready to take pride in their national airline once again. Best wishes to the New Board of Air Zimbabwe.

Minister Complains To VP Chiwenga

By A Correspondent- Bulawayo mayor Solomon Mguni says Provincial Affairs minister Judith Ncube was unfair to lodge a complaint against city fathers to Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga at a public gathering.

Ncube complained to Chiwenga during his visit to Bulawayo that city fathers were in the habit of boycotting and not co-operating with government agencies on national events.

Chiwenga was in the city for a national clean-up campaign in Entumbane high-density suburb, where the council was represented by a low ranking official.

Mguni said city fathers could not attend the clean-up campaign as they were attending a funeral service of late prominent artist Cont Mhlanga at Bulawayo’s Amphitheatre on the same day.

Government and indeed civic communications or complaints are not relayed through the Press. I am yet to get such official communication. It’s only fair that we respond after receiving such,” Mguni said.

“Assuming that comment was made about the city, we would now know the context in which it was made. We had a funeral service for someone who is a recipient of civil honours.”

Ncube, who singled out Mguni in her complaint, was not answering her mobile phone yesterday.

In her complaint, she had said: “Of late, we have been having a challenge VP, BCC does not co-operate well with us. I want to repeat this. Of late, we have a big challenge: the Mayor of Bulawayo does not show up.

We are doing this clean-up campaign not to benefit me or anyone, but for the good of the city of Bulawayo.”

Zanu PF Destroys CCC Posters

President Chamisa in rural Chipinge today: Citizens Thank you rally.

As President Chamisa is expected to address a bumper crowd in Masvingo, Mucheke stadium tomorrow.

As Zanu PF tears Masvingo CCC Rally posters

13 August 2022

Wezhira Munya

Today, charismatic and crowd puller President Nelson Chamisa will be at Kondo in Chipinge, thanking the Citizens Coalition for Change supporters for overwhelmingly voted for CCC councillor during by election last month.

To confirm the THANK YOU RALLY, President Chamisa yesterday, wrote on this twitter, “Citizens Thank You Rally…. We’re at Kondo in Chipinge tomorrow Saturday, to thank the Citizens for overwhelmingly voting for Change in the recent by elections. We’re yellow. We’re Gold.”

The rally starts today at 10am.

Citizens Coalition for Change Chipinge ward 16 councillor defeated Zanu PF, Madhuku’s party and independent candidate. This seat was won by MDC Alliance previously, but unpopular Mwonzora failed to field candidate during by election to reclaim the seat. One of the main reasons MDC Alliance under Mwonzora failed to field council candidate in Chipinge is that the party does not have structures in Chipinge as a result they failed to get a candidate, said one MDC T national member.

This victory cements the narrative that CCC party is rural and urban party.

The are reports from Chipinge that Zanu PF members are trying to stop President Chamisa and CCC party to hold Thank You Rally.

However, fearless CCC champions have vowed to proceed with the rally.

In Masvingo, Citizens Coalition for Change Champions and supporters are engaging in serious door to door and car rallies mobilizing people to attend tomorrow’s rally, said champion Ruth “vaChivi” Mapiye.

President Chamisa is coming to thank Masvingo for voting for four CCC councillors during 26 March 2022 by elections. The CCC victorious councillors are: ward 3 Rock Kamuzondo, ward 4 Aleck Tabe, ward 5 Daniel Mberikunashe and ward 7 Richard Musekiwa.

Panicking Masvingo Zanu PF members yesternight were tearing CCC Rally posters in ward 4 and other wards.

Champion advocate Martin Mureri a human rights defender said, it is illegal for Zanu PF members to tear CCC posters and police must arrest these thugs.

Tomorrow’s Masvingo CCC Rally was cleared by police.

According to champion Jefferson Chitando, first 7 000 people to enter Mucheke stadium will receive free CCC yellow flag. CCC members in Masvingo have made beautful CCC flags. Mucheke stadium will be yellow.

Masvingo Thank You Rally starts at 10am.

Mark Ngwazi Told To Grow Up

Mark Ngwazi

By A Correspondent- Generally, artists are considered as role models, which means their actions and behaviour must be impeccable.

Artists, especially musicians, create a following through their conduct on and off the stage, and when the artists misbehave or are associated with vices such as drugs, usually their life turns into one miserable mess.

Because artists are usually the voice of the voiceless, many organisations have and continue to engage them for different initiatives that include, but are not limited to awareness campaigns.

Musicians, for example, end up being ambassadors of certain initiatives. Sungura ace, Alick Macheso, for instance, was appointed the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society ambassador in 2013 because of his ethical and exemplary behaviour as highlighted by his annual Chitungwiza General Hospital charity show that helps the sick.

The list of model artists is quite long and many have, thus, supported them because of their moral uprightness.

But sadly, many Zimbabwean musicians are yet to make the cut.

Sungura singer, Mark Ngwazi is one such artiste who really needs to grow up because at the moment, it would seem he has grown big-headed.

His comment after he failed to turn up for a show at PaGomba Cafe in Beitbridge on Heroes Day leaves a lot to be desired for an artist of his calibre.

We can only assume that probably he was not aware of the show, which speaks to the critical issue that artists need to rope in the services of managers or publicists.

Lone ranger musicians are a recipe for disaster. They are a serious danger to themselves and society.

When contacted for comment over why he didn’t turn up for the Beitbridge show, Ngwazi shot back at the journalist saying: “You can just write that I have nothing to say as regards that issue. I am about to perform here at the Defence Forces event and you want me to say something now because you want me to, you can go ahead and say I have nothing to say.”

If this guy had a manager, which is very doubtful, his deportment would most likely be different.

No doubt, Ngwazi has talent and great potential, but such behaviour of failing to turn up for shows and then be rude to the Press for merely asking for answers leaves a lot to be desired.

Ngwazi doesn’t even realise that he may have unwittingly banished himself from Beitbridge town, where people were injured after those who had paid to attend his botched show vented their anger by throwing missiles everywhere.

In April, Zimdancehall artiste Killer T did not show up for a gig in Botswana and the result was chaos that saw bouncers being stabbed in violent skirmishes.

According to media reports, he had been paid US$2 000 for the show.

We beseech all other creatives across the arts not to be short-sighted and headstrong like Ngwazi. They are, however, free to do so at their own peril, of course.

ED Appoints New Perm Sec In Mines Ministry

By A Correspondent- President Mnangagwa has appointed Mr Pfungwa Kunaka as the new permanent secretary in the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development.

This follows the retirement of Mr Onesimo Mazayi Moyo on 31 July.

In a statement on Friday, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda said Mr Kunaka’s appointment is effective from 22 August.

“His Excellency the President has, in terms of section 205 (1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe No 20 of (2013) as amended, approved the appointment of Mr Pfungwa Kunaka as the permanent secretary in the ministry of Mines and Mining Development,” Dr Sibanda said.

Mr Kunaka holds a BSc Degree in Economics and has risen within Government services from being an economist in the ministry of Finance and Economic Development to the post of Chief Economist Revenue Expenditure, Director, Fiscal Policy and Advisory services and Chief director and Expenditure Management.

“This experience exposed Mr Kunaka to the planning, evaluation and financing of a wide range of investment projects and programmes by all government ministries including in the mining sector,” said Dr Sibanda.

Dr Sibanda said the new permanent secretary engaged with several developmental partners at bilateral and multilateral levels and with international financial institutions to hammer out projects, programmes and investment deals on behalf of the country.

Under the Second Republic, Mr Kunaka was seconded to the One Stop Shop Investment under the office of President and Cabinet to establish the formative infrastructure to operationalise the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Authority (ZIDA), added Dr Sibanda.

Mr Kunaka thus brings vast knowledge of and experience in public administration and management across all sectors of government and a deep understanding of the sectors of the economy in relation to their contribution to inclusive and substantial national development.

“He is a strategic thinker with a sharp eye for financial analysis and management, evaluation of investments and negotiation of agreements to best advantage of the country,”

Dr Sibanda added that the deployment of Mr Kunaka to the mining sector will bring the requisite stability and sustain inclusive growth in the industry in its quest to meet its strategic targets under the ongoing national development.

Kenya Election-Commission Stops Media From Tallying Results

By Reuters- The Kenya Electoral Commission has discouraged media organisations from tallying election results as this could incite violence.

Only the electoral commission is authorised to declare a winner, but the tallies done by media were seen as a bulwark against the rigging allegations that have previously sparked violence.

While Kenya is East Africa’s richest and most stable nation it also has a history of violent elections disputes. More than 1,200 people were killed after the 2007 elections and more than 100 after the 2017 elections.

The race is to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, who must step down after serving the maximum two five-year terms. Leading contenders are former political prisoner and veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto. Kenyatta has fallen out with Ruto and endorsed Odinga.

Media tallies, which had nearly stopped by Friday morning, showed Odinga and Ruto neck and neck, just under the 50% mark they needed to win. Less than a percent was divided between two other marginal candidates.

If no candidate wins more than 50% plus one vote, the two frontrunners will have a run-off.

On Friday the election commission chairman Wafula Chebukati blamed party agents for the slow pace of the official count, which has not yet topped 1.5% of the vote.

“Agents in this exercise cannot proceed in the manner which we are proceeding, as if we are doing a forensic audit,” he told a news briefing at the tallying centre.

“We are not moving as fast as we should. This exercise needs to be concluded as soon as possible.”

Later on Friday, Chebukati told reporters an election officer posted in Embakasi East constituency went missing on Thursday morning after stepping outside to make a phone call. His disappearance has been reported to police, he said.

During the 2017 election, the head of information technology was found murdered shortly before the vote, a crime that has never been solved.

RIGGING CLAIM

Late on Thursday, the chairman of Kenyatta’s Jubilee party, which has backed Odinga, issued a statement alleging “massive subtle rigging” and claiming the “electoral process was highly compromised” after Ruto’s new party made a strong showing in an area traditionally dominated by Kenyatta.

The statement alleged voter intimidation, bribery, illegal display of campaign materials in polling stations, mishandling of party agents and incorrect use of election materials. It provided no evidence and did not explain why the allegations had been made so late. Reuters could not reach party officials for comment.

International observers have generally praised the proceedings in the elections.

Previous elections have largely been determined by ethnic voting blocs. But Ruto has sought to make this election about economics, portraying himself as a self-made “hustler” in contrast to political dynasties. Odinga and Kenyatta are the sons of Kenya’s first vice president and president, respectively.

Ian Dan, a parcel service attendant in the main bus park in Odinga’s stronghold of Kisumu in western Kenya, said business was very slow.

“We are in darkness and this is not good for us. People are anxious and need to have a clear picture,” he said. “There are allegations of rigging flying in social media, but many people are waiting to hear from Raila Odinga or William Ruto. Their word will influence people’s reaction.”

MEDIA SLOWDOWN

The electoral commission is the only body legally authorised to declare a winner. It initially uploaded images of results forms from more than 46,000 polling stations, but had not tallied them. Instead, media houses employed teams to download forms and enter them into a database.

More than 99.7% of polling station results are in but thousands have not been counted by the media. The abrupt slowdown started when around 80% of the vote had been counted.

Prominent Kenyan columnist and cartoonist Patrick Gathara criticised the slowdown, posting on Twitter: “So once again KE media have chickened out and have stopped updating their counts? It was too good to last.”

But executives from Citizen and Nation Media groups said exhausted staff needed a rest.

“Now we have about a third of people working that we started with and we intend to pick up pace in the next few hours when the rest of the team come back,” said Linus Kaikai, director of strategy at Citizen.

Stephen Gitagama, the CEO of Nation Media Group, said his staff also needed a rest and that they focused on quality control. He referred Reuters to the election commission, known as the IEBC.

“IEBC bears the responsibility of providing the results, not the media,” he said.

On Friday morning, the election commission displayed an official count of presidential results on a board at the main tallying center. It had counted 1.5% of the vote.

The commission has seven days to announce a winner.

Garden Boy Steals Employer’s Mercedes Benz, Crashes It

By A Correspondent- A Bluffhill woman got the shock of her life upon returning from work and finding her costly silver Mercedes Benz missing after her gardener, Takudzwa Masawi, had allegedly disappeared with it about a fortnight ago.

In a dramatic turn of events, Masawi later collided with the vehicle in Hatcliffe Extension, failed to report the accident, contracted a motor mechanic to repair it and disappeared after failing to meet the bill.

The mechanic traced the owner of the vehicle using some papers that were in the car, leading to the eventual recovery of the stolen property.

On the fateful day, Sithembiso Ndlovu (39) recalls rushing to work in the morning leaving her car, registration number AET 4333, and everything else at her Bluffhill home in Westgate, in the care of her maid, Dorcas Moyo and the gardener.

Taking advantage of the prolonged absence of the maid who had gone to hospital, Masawi packed all his belongings from the home, stuffed them in the Mercedes Benz and drove away unnoticed.

Ms Ndlovu could not believe her eyes upon her return when she didn’t find her car.

Her investigations revealed that it had been stolen by the gardener whose mobile phone number was no longer reachable.

Apart from the car, the gardener allegedly stole the employer’s two doors and tyres.

Masawi had worked for the employer for less than five months.

He is still on the run.

Kenya Elections-Ruling Party Claims Rigging

By Reuters- Kenya’s ruling party has claimed that the elections are being rigged, fuelling anxiety among the citizens.

The secretary-general of Kenya’s governing party said this Friday without providing evidence of his claims.

Media outlets also significantly slowed down their unofficial tallies from Tuesday’s tight vote.

Only the electoral commission is authorised to declare a winner, but the tallies done by media were seen as a bulwark against the kind of rigging allegations that have previously sparked violence.

Chiwenga Threatens To “Shoot” Innscor Bosses

By-Vice President Constantino Chiwenga reportedly told Innscor Africa to put its house in order or to be treated as an enemy of the state amid reports that the company was fuelling currency volatilities rocking the market.

According to The Independent, Chiwenga confronted the company during a meeting between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Innscor Africa shareholders over the allegations.

Innscor has numerous investments in the fast food sector under Simbisa Brands, National Foods, Irvines, Associated Meat Packers, Prodairy, NatPak, Profeeds, Probottlers, Colcom Foods and National Foods Logistics. It also wholly owns the Botswana Milling and Produce Company.

The meeting comes at a time Mnangagwa’s administration has declared war on “economic saboteurs”, frustrating its efforts to turn around Zimbabwe’s fragile economy choked by spiking inflation, currency turbulence and skyrocketing prices.

The Independent further states that the meeting was held in May at Munhumutapa Building over delays by Innscor to settle a loan to various financial institutions, believed to be running into billions of dollars.

The publication was told that in separate briefings, Innscor’s proprietors were summoned to explain their borrowing history. It is then that Chiwenga allegedly ordered Innscor bosses to put their house in order or risk the consequences of being treated as enemies of the state.

A source who spoke to The Independent on condition of anonymity said:

During the tense discussions, Chiwenga went ballistic. He told the Innscor proprietors that he wanted them to commit themselves to coming up with a holistic solution with Mnangagwa.

In blunt terms, and evoking his military background to the visibly frightened executives, Chiwenga told them that, ‘I am a soldier, and I consider economic saboteurs as enemies. For every enemy there is a bullet,”

The Independent also learnt that Innscor then pleaded for some time to settle the debt.

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has severally indicated that the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) was monitoring truant players in the economy.

Innscor was one of the companies identified by the FIU for fuelling speculative borrowing on the market after accessing billions in loans.

Chiwenga Falls

By- The High court has ordered Health minister Constantino Chiwenga to pay $900 000 in damages to a woman who suffered a miscarriage because of negligence by health officials at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital in 2020.

Valerie Chibaya, with assistance from the Women and Law in Southern Africa (WLSA), instituted legal proceedings against Chiwenga, who doubles as the country’s Vice-President, after her hospital ordeal.
Chibaya filed for damages for pain and suffering in the sum of $800 000, loss of amenities of life $100 000, contumelia $300 000 and $281 757,63 for violation of her constitutional rights.
High Court judge Justice Never Katiyo ruled in her favour after a full trial.
Chibaya was awarded
$800 000 for pain and suffering and $100 000 for loss of amenities, with Chiwenga ordered to settle the damages within 60 days.
Her claim for contumelia damages and violation of her constitutional rights was dismissed, with the court reasoning that there was no intention by the health officials to humiliate her.
In her court application, Chibaya said she went to the hospital on June 17, 2020 after experiencing unusual stomach pains when she was 23 weeks pregnant.
She said doctors and nurses did not take her temperature, blood pressure, or sugar levels nor did they do a routine check-up on her, insisting that she got a scan before they could attend to her.
Chibaya was only attended to the following day after her husband begged for help.
In defence, the defendant sought to blame Chibaya for the miscarriage saying she delayed having an Ultrasound Scan.
In a Press briefing held yesterday, WLSA director Fadzai Traquino welcomed the ruling as key in the fight for women to enjoy access to sexual reproductive health and maternal health rights.
“Together with our various partners and stakeholders, we have been helping and running various programmes for women and girls. The court’s order is quite progressive as it expands on the meaning and application of the constitutional rights enshrined in section 76,” Traquino said.

Kombi Crew Disciplines Overzealous Police Officers
