Basic Commodities Disappear From Shop Shelves

By- Continued increase of basic commodities pushes consumers to engage in panic buying as they fear shortages of these essential commodities.

According to NewsDay this is emptying shop shelves with such commodities ending up on the black market while consumers keep others in homes.

The Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ) conducted a survey recently and observed that cooking oil was among the affected commodities. CCZ spokesperson Chris Kamba told NewsDay Business:
Some people are now hoarding basic commodities in anticipation of a looming food crisis.
Consumers are panicking over the parallel market rate which continues to change on a daily basis.

A recent survey by CCZ revealed that the most affected product is cooking oil, which is going for $2 100 (about US$4 at the parallel market rate) in the big retail shops, against $5,50 on the black market. So, some people are resorting to hoarding the product and resell at the informal market.
The development reminds of the hoarding spree that was witnessed in 2008 when the country experienced another hyperinflation.
The recent wave of market panic has been sparked by a deadly erosion of the Zimbabwe dollar’s buying power.

The currency has lost over 30% of its value against the United States dollar since January.

Cash For Marks Scandal Rocks Masvingo Teachers College

Students at Masvingo Teachers’ College have pleaded with responsible authorities to intervene and stop some lecturers from demanding cash for marks.

The students allege lecturers in the Professional Studies Syllabus (PSA) and Art Professional Syllabus B, are demanding US$ 10 if the students are to pass given assignments in the two departments.

Disgruntled students who spoke to TellZim News claimed that their lecturers deliberately make sure that fail their assignments if they refuse to meet their demands. A student who chose not to be identified said:

Our lectures are giving us lower marks even if you meet the demands of the assignments.
Because we want to pass, we are forced to pay for better marks.

Another student who also declined to be identified said they are now caught between a rock and a hard place. Said the student:

We are calling for the responsible authorities to take action against this type of corruption as we have no option but to pay lecturers in order to pass.

Contacted for comment by TellZim News, one of the lecturers in question said he cannot comment as he is not allowed to speak to the media.

Former Bosso Star Starts Own Company

In a country where football stars and investing go a wind-ward direction against each other, any case of a player preparing for life after retirement is praiseworthy.

When former Highlanders and CAPS United speedster Gabriel Nyoni suffered a horrific injury while turning out Cape Umoya in the South African National First Division in February last year, his future as a player was shrouded in uncertainty.

To ensure financial security, the former Maritzburg United winger, who is a holder of a marketing degree, started a cleaning and detailing company called GN27 Detailing and Cleaning Services.

The organisation is based in Cape Town and offers upholstery cleaning, car seats cleaning, car valets, carpet cleaning, car paint correction and residential cleaning in the Mother City.

“I am humbled by God’s Grace to give me the wisdom to prepare for any anomalies in my life. The principle of not putting all your eggs in one basket sank very well in my brain,” said Nyoni.

“I started the company in 2021 and I employ 10 people already. Our services are mobile and we go to the client.

“Our goal is to become the best detailing and cleaning company in Cape Town,” he added.

Nyoni admits it’s difficult for football players based in Zimbabwe to invest, due to the unstable economic environment but urged them to attain skills which might help them after retirement.

“To be honest, its very difficult for any footballer to invest in an inflationary environment. But the little they can do is to equip themselves with skills outside football. Skill pays more than education,” he said.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Police Must Not Take Orders From Zanu PF

By Maureen Kademaunga

The Zimbabwean Police has proved to be competent and able to solve crime but with a worrying exception in cases that involve murders, abductions and general abuse of hrds & political actors that are critical of the ZANU PF regime and more glaringly murder cases in which a ZANU PF member is named as a suspect.

It is obvious to see that politics is now taking over policing!

Politics must stay out of Policing! Public confidence in the police is now very low and yet it is a key element for effective policing. Policing is anchored on a dual aspect of enforcement of the law and enablement of rights & as such relies much on the public’s confidence that the police’s powers are just and necessary and free of undue political influence.

The regime must allow the police to be a non-partisan, apolitical organisation that polices by consent with respect and approval of the public as enshrined in the constitution.

Otherwise we may never get justice for Mboneni, Dube, Moreblessing and others!

CCC Wants SADC Intervention In Zim Crisis

Tinashe Sambiri|Citizens’ Coalition for Change has challenged the Zimbabwe Republic Police to arrest suspected killers of Moreblessing Ali.

Moreblessing was abducted and brutally murdered by suspected Zanu PF thugs.

In a statement, CCC Namibia urged SADC and AU to act on the rising political crisis in Zimbabwe.

See statement below:

Citizens Coalition For Change(CCC) Namibia demands justice to Moreblessing Ali and Langalihle Dube!

12 June 2022

Citizens in Namibia demand justice to the butchered change champions Moreblessing Ali and Langalihle Dube. May their dear souls rest in power as we continue the fight against ZanuPF sponsored abductions and forced disappearances.

It is quite pathetic to witness state-sponsored torture and abductions of citizens 42 years after the so-called independence.

As a democratic alternative, we call upon SADC, African Union and United Nations to intervene to save our people from these Fascists who are terminating citizens’ precious lives on account of politics.

ZANUPF abductors must be called to order, they should be compelled to respect the sanctity of life. We can’t continue with impunity when we lose activists and human rights defenders on a daily basis.

Moreover, the citizens of Zimbabwe must also protect each other against ZANUPF abductors. It is now imperative to embrace dangerous freedom against state-sponsored torture and abductions of change champions in the motherland. The citizenry should unite and confront these thugs defending their human freedoms. Moreblessing Ali was severely attacked before she was bundled into a car belonging to ZANUPF thug Pius Jamba. Yesterday, we received bad news that our missing champion was found dead in well owned by the ZANUPF chairperson for Nyatsime, Chitungwiza,Simba Chisango.

In addition to that, Moreblessing Ali’s body was retrieved from the well in two pieces with her intestines packed in a plastic bag. This reflected that Pius Jamba and Simba Chisango killed Moreblessing Ali and cut her into two pieces before throwing her into their well 25 metres away from Chisango’s homestead. They went on to pull off her dreadlocks, the levels of torture and assault she experienced were evidently extreme. To date no one has been arrested or interrogated which signals the complicity of the desperate Harare regime in this atrocity. Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia demands justice to Moreblessing Ali! The perpetrators of the murder of our change champion must be brought to book.

As an external assembly, we encourage the police to start protecting citizens instead of conniving with ZANUPF thugs who are killing our people for believing in the alternative. Five days after Moreblessing Ali had gone missing, Paul Nyathi, the police spokesperson said it was a love affair not a political matter. A statement which unravels the unprofessional conduct of our police which is now an extension of the politically inept regime. The attempt to cover up unearthed how our police have been captured by ZANUPF, this must be resisted with equal measure.

Simba Chisango and Pius Jamba must be prosecuted and charged with murder. Participatory democracy is key at this juncture, we need to effect a citizen’s arrest on the known murderers of Moreblessing Ali.

Furthermore, ZANUPF continued with its thugocracy in Bulawayo. State sponsored thugs invaded our change champion, Langalihle Dube’s house. Mr Tuesday as he was popularly known was butchered during the night by sadist thugs from ZANUPF. Dube was a recruiter and mobiliser of change champions in Lobengula and the entire city of Bulawayo. He was killed for fighting against corruption, gross misgovernance, absolute abuse of human freedoms, arbitrary arrests, long pre-trial detentions and forced disappearances. No one has been arrested in connection with the ruthless murder of change champions. Again, we appeal to the police to discharge their duties professionally. They must apprehend bloody-minded ZANUPF thugs. We demand justice to Langalihle Dube! May his dear soul rest in power.

In a nutshell, our message to citizens across the globe is very clear, we should all embrace dangerous freedom against state-sponsored abductions and forced disappearances. Itai Dzamara disappeared and he remains unaccounted for to date, we demand justice to all victims of politically motivated violence, forced disappearances and abductions. The movement lost Mboneni Ncube in Kwekwe, a young life taken on account of politics. May his dear soul rest in power. Nyasha Zhambe was killed in Gutu, Masvingo for subscribing to the Yellow Revolution.

It is now high time we organise ourselves so that we can resist ZANUPF sponsored abductions and violence on the voices of dissent. Lets be each other’s keeper in the face of ZanuPF repression. Solidarity is a core value in social democracy. Citizens must be ready to defend one another against ZanuPF thugs. Impunity must be resisted now or never. Citizens must register to vote for change in 2023.

About Blood And Blood Products

World Blood Donor Day takes place on 14 June each year.

The Day was created to:

raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion;
highlight the critical contribution voluntary, unpaid blood donors make to national health systems;
support national blood transfusion services, blood donor organizations and other nongovernmental organizations in strengthening and expanding their voluntary blood donor programmes by reinforcing national and local campaigns.
The day also provides an opportunity to call to action governments and national health authorities to provide adequate resources to increase the collection of blood from voluntary, unpaid blood donors and to manage access to blood and the transfusion of those who require it.

Blood and blood products are essential resources for effective management of women suffering from bleeding associated with pregnancy and childbirth; children suffering from severe anaemia due to malaria and malnutrition; patients with blood and bone marrow disorders, inherited disorders of haemoglobin and immune deficiency conditions; victims of trauma, emergencies, disasters and accidents; as well as patients undergoing advanced medical and surgical procedures. The need for blood is universal, but access to blood for all those who need it is not. Blood shortages are particularly acute in low- and middle-income countries.

To ensure that everyone who needs transfusion has access to safe blood, all countries need voluntary, unpaid blood donors who give blood regularly. An effective blood donor programme, characterized by wide and active participation of the population, is crucial in meeting the need of blood transfusion during peace time as well as during emergencies or disasters, when there is a surge in demand for blood or when the normal operation of blood services is affected. While an enabling social and cultural atmosphere with strong solidarity facilitates development of an effective blood donor programme, it is also widely acknowledged that the act of blood donation contributes to generating social ties and building a united community.

Focus of this year’s campaign
For 2022, the World Blood Donor Day slogan is “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives” to draw attention to the roles that voluntary blood donations play in saving lives and enhancing solidarity within communities.

The specific objectives of this year’s campaign are to:

thank blood donors in the world and create wider public awareness of the need for regular, unpaid blood donation;
highlight the need for committed, year-round blood donation, to maintain adequate supplies and achieve universal and timely access to safe blood transfusion;
recognize and promote the values of voluntary unpaid blood donation in enhancing community solidarity and social cohesion;
raise awareness of the need for increased investment from governments to build a sustainable and resilient national blood system and increase collection from voluntary non-remunerated blood donors.
A particular activity that countries in the world are encouraged to implement for this year’s campaign is to disseminate to various media outlets stories of people whose lives have been saved through blood donation as a way of motivating regular blood donors to continue giving blood, and to motivate people in good health who have never given blood to begin doing so.

Other activities that would help promote the slogan of this year’s World Blood Donor Day may include donor appreciation ceremonies, social networking campaigns, special media broadcasts, social media posts featuring individual blood donors with the slogan, meetings and workshops, musical and artistic events to thank blood donors and celebrate solidarity, and colouring iconic monuments red.

Your involvement and support will help to ensure greater impact for World Blood Donor Day 2022, increasing recognition worldwide that giving blood is a life-saving act of solidarity and that services providing safe blood and blood products are an essential element of every health care system. Participation of interested partners is welcome at all levels to make World Blood Donor Day 2022 a global success.

Joana Mamombe Condemns Gruesome Murder Of Moreblessing Ali

JUSTICE for #MoreblessingAli

By Joana Ruvimbo Mamombe

It has taken me so much time to compose a message as I imagined the horror, the last sad moments of Moreblessing Ali.

When did she die? How did She die? I am outraged as I relieve the horrific and desperate moments of 13 MAY 2020 when Myself, Cecillia & Netsai were taken away and tortured by evil men ‘ruling our country’. The macabre thoughts of what could have been makes me weak at the knees.

What is it with the month of MAY and the killing & torture of WOMEN?

When shall these deaths end? When shall the perpetrators be held accountable?

As I reflect about the frequency at which our lives are being taken, our rights flagrantly violated and the shocking escalation of brutality against defenseless citizens, I call on all of us to increase our vigilance and solidarity.

I send my heartfelt condolence to Moreblessing`s family on this heinous crime and demand JUSTICE on her life…

We deserve better as a Nation

DeMbare Pair In Tanzania For Trials

Shadreck Nyahwa is undergoing trials at Tanzanian side Azam FC.

Nyahwa, along with fellow Dynamos midfielder – Ghanaian Emmanuel Paga, travelled to East Africa last week after receiving an invitation to attend a two-week assessment.

The pair have featured prominently for Dynamos this season and helped the team get a berth in the leading pack on the league table.

The trials commenced last Friday and were facilitated by local player agent George Deda.

However, with the FIFA sanctions against Zimbabwe still in place, there has been confusion on how Azam will complete the deals.

The world football body imposed the sanctions under article 13 of the FIFA Statutes, meaning that ZIFA lost all its membership rights.

The suspension of the membership rights means the FA cannot issue international clearances to any player under the local football board.

The clearance enables the player to be registered with the association where he or she will be based.

New details have emerged on why Azam allowed the trials to go on while the sanctions on Zimbabwe still stand.

According to NewsDay, Nyahwa is a free agent after his contract with Dynamos expired at the end of May, while Paga is now into the final six months of his deal.

And if the pair impresses, the transfers will be subject to Fifa lifting their ban on Zimbabwe.

The newly-installed acting ZIFA president Gift Banda recently assured the country that they are engaging FIFA on the lifting of the sanctions.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Liverpool Sign New Sensation

Liverpool and Benfica have reached an agreement for the sale of Darwin Núñez for an initial fee of €75 million and a further €25M in add-ons.

The Portuguese club confirmed the news in a statement on Monday, noting the “agreement is subject to the conclusion of the player’s sports employment contract with Liverpool FC.”

Núñez will sign a contract with the Anfield side soon after completing his medical on Monday.

The 22-year-old Uruguayan striker was the top scorer in Portugal’s top flight in the 2021-22 season and scored 34 goals in all competitions for Benfica, including goals in both legs of the club’s Champions League quarterfinal defeat by Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Núñez’s arrival at Anfield comes amid the potential departure of Sadio Mané, with the 30-year-old expected to join Bayern Munich this summer after six successful seasons with the Reds.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Slow Start For Mushekwi In China

Nyasha Mushekwi has endured a slow start to the 2022 Chinese Super League season after his Zhejiang Greentown side remained winless in its first three games.

The newly-promoted team has, so far, picked a single point and lies just two places above the dropzone.

Zhejiang marked their top-flight campaign early this month with a 1-0 loss to Shandong Luneng before securing a goalless draw against Changchun Yatai. They have lost again this afternoon, 3-1, to Henan Jianye.

Mushekwi has featured in all these matches and made his second successive start in the latest game.

However, he is yet to get his name on the scoresheet.

The Zimbabwean won the Chinese League One Golden Boot Award last season after finishing the regular term with a twenty-three-goal tally consisting of a hat-trick and three braces.

The campaign, meanwhile, marks the second spell of the former Warriors striker in the top flight, having played for Dalian Pro (formerly Dalian Yifang) in 2018 before his release after one season.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

CCC Appeals To SADC To Act On Zim Crisis

World Blood Donor Day Message

World Blood Donor Day takes place on 14 June each year. The Day was created to:

raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion;
highlight the critical contribution voluntary, unpaid blood donors make to national health systems;
support national blood transfusion services, blood donor organizations and other nongovernmental organizations in strengthening and expanding their voluntary blood donor programmes by reinforcing national and local campaigns.

The specific objectives of this year’s campaign are to:

thank blood donors in the world and create wider public awareness of the need for regular, unpaid blood donation;
highlight the need for committed, year-round blood donation, to maintain adequate supplies and achieve universal and timely access to safe blood transfusion;
recognize and promote the values of voluntary unpaid blood donation in enhancing community solidarity and social cohesion;
raise awareness of the need for increased investment from governments to build a sustainable and resilient national blood system and increase collection from voluntary non-remunerated blood donors.

Zanu PF Hooligans Seize Moreblessing Ali Funeral

Tinashe Sambiri|Zanu PF hooligans seized Moreblessing Ali’s funeral on Monday morning.

“A gang of Zanu PF thugs led by Councillor for Seke Rural, Mr Maoeresa, has descended on the funeral of Moreblessing Ali. They are chasing mourners away from the funeral & beating those who’ve gathered up. Our security team & local leaders are on site to protect mourners,” CCC said in a statement.

ZimEye on Monday morning grilled a Zanu PF councillor over the disruption of Moreblessing Ali funeral.

“I don’t fear international community – go and report to God.

What is international community to me? You think I am afraid of your international community?

Go and tell God that we have made our decision and we are not reversing it

Which law are you talking about? I don’t respect the law so don’t speak to me in your fine English Language,” the Zanu PF councillor fumed.

Russian Investor Pulls Out Of Great Dyke Platinum Project

Russia’s Vi Holding has pulled out from Zimbabwean platinum company Great Dyke Investments, marking a new challenge for Zimbabwe’s biggest platinum project, reported Bloomberg News.

A 50-50 joint venture (JV) between Vi Holding and Zimbabwe’s Kuvimba Mining House, Great Dyke Investments is developing the $3bn Darwendale platinum project.

Located on the mineral-rich Great Dyke of Zimbabwe, the long-delayed project was expected to have a peak production capacity of 860,000oz of platinum group metals (PGM) a year.

The publication cited an email from Great Dyke as saying that the Russian company exited from the JV. However, the reason for the shareholding change remains undisclosed.

Igor Higer, who had acted as Vi representative and Great Dyke chairman, said his company withdrew the arrangement.

Although initial development work on the project started in early 2020, the project’s operations were soon ceased due to low capital.

The site has remained abandoned since early 2021, according to a report by Zimbabwe’s Centre for Natural Resource Governance.

Meanwhile, Kuvimba Mining House also failed to attract fresh investment for the mining project as European buyers are considering moving away from projects involving Russian shareholders, reported Bloomberg News citing the people with knowledge of the matter.

Kuvimba CEO Simba Chinyemba said that the project is ‘ongoing’ and the plan is being remodelled for the platinum mine.

According to Great Dyke, the project has the potential to be exploited for four decades and was initially planned to start production in 2021.

The Darwendale mining project includes the development of underground mining activities to extract PGM, as well as processing facilities.

Squatter Camp Row Ends In Tragedy

By A Correspondent- A man was attacked at Killarney squatter camp in Bulawayo after being accused of burning down a shack and he later died from his injuries at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH).

The deceased has been identified as Ngqabutho Maganga (35) and police have since arrested the suspect, Moffat Sibanda (28) who lives at the squatter camp.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said Mr Maganga was taken to a bushy area near the squatter camp by Sibanda and another man and they assaulted him.

“On 26 May 2022 during the night, the deceased was at his residential area when he was taken by the two accused persons to a nearby bushy area at Killarney squatter camp.

“They were accusing him of setting on fire a shack belonging to another resident.

The accused persons assaulted the deceased using unknown objects all over the body and later returned him to his shack,” said Insp Ncube.

He said on May 27, Mr Maganga’s neighbours discovered that he had several injuries all over the body and they summoned an ambulance which ferried him to UBH where he was admitted.

Mr Maganga died on June 4.

Insp Ncube said Sibanda was arrested last week.

“On the 9th of June 2022, police received a tip-off that the accused was spotted at Killarney squatter camp and acting on the information, police arrested Sibanda.

“The second accused is still at large,” said Inspector Ncube.

He said police are appealing to those who might have information leading to the arrest of the second accused to contact any nearest police station

Retraction On Daily News Article

On Sat 11th June our news network re-ran a story with a headline over the accident of a ZANU PF District Chair for Matobo.

We apologize for the misleading text in the first paragraph that mistyped Mr Michael Ndiweni as the person involved in the car crash.

We once again apologize for the inappropriate text line attributing the incident to Mr Ndiweni when it was in fact him who supplied the photographs. This should never happen again.

Sex Workers Turn To Crypto Currency

Allie Eve Knox creates adult content.

She makes sexually provocative videos, sells subscription services on platforms like OnlyFans, performs live via webcam, and works as a findomme – short for financial dominatrix, a fetish involving dominance-submission dynamics and cash.

The Texas native is also a major advocate of cryptocurrency.

Knox describes herself as “one of the most outspoken sex workers, particularly for crypto.” Her interest kicked off in 2014, which is when she says several vendors, including PayPalSquare Cash, and Venmo, shut down her accounts because of red flags related to sex work.

So Knox started accepting cryptocurrencies instead. Her first exchange of bitcoin for content was pretty casual.

It started on a Skype call with a client. “I had a Coinbase account at the time, and he said, ‘Hold your QR code right to this camera here,’ and he sent it through the camera. And I got it,” she explained.

It took 15 minutes, and there were no chargebacks, no website commission fees, and no bank intermediaries to turn down the transaction – all major pluses in her industry. But the biggest attraction was having total and irreversible ownership over the money she had earned.

“I could cash it out. I could hold it. I could watch it go up and down,” said Knox.

“It was mine.”

Knox is one of many adult workers who say that cryptocurrencies like bitcoin give them a sense of security and independence as banks, credit card companies, and payment processors tighten regulations around adult content. With crypto, there is no middleman making a judgment call on which transactions are acceptable.

OnlyFans and the policy whiplash

Sex work is an umbrella term that includes anyone who engages in some form of erotic labor, whether virtual or in person.

“The majority of sex work in the U.S. is legal. It’s not dealt with fairly, but it’s still legal,” explained Kristen DiAngelo, an activist and Sacramento-based sex worker who has spent over four decades in the industry. “Stripping is legal…massage is legal…escorting is legal. The only thing that’s really illegal in the U.S. is the honest exchange of sexual activity for remuneration, for money.”

Some escorts – who charge anywhere from $1,700 an hour to $11,000 for a full 24 hours – now explicitly say in their ads that they prefer to be paid in bitcoin or ethereum.

The sex work industry also includes performers on the popular subscription video site OnlyFans, many of whom work exclusively online and have never seen their subscribers or fans in person.

Allie Rae is a 37-year-old mother of three boys who says she went from making about $84,000 a year as an ICU nurse in Boston to $1.3 million, thanks to her work on OnlyFans, which has more than 130 million users.

Opposition Is Closing The Gap On Us, Worried Mohadi Tells Masvingo Chiefs

ZANU PF vice president Kembo Mohadi has expressed concern that the ruling party faces defeat to the opposition in the 2023 elections if it fails to galvanise its support base.

Addressing local chiefs and several village heads from across Mwenezi District who were bussed to Rutenga growth point for a ZANU PF meeting on Wednesday, 8 June, Mohadi said the ruling party ought to be worried by the fact that the opposition closed the gap on them in the 2018 elections.

“In the 2018 general elections, the opposition amassed 2.1 million votes while our party garnered 2.4 million.

“Given that during the 2013 elections we had defeated them with a gap of one million, it means they covered the gap with a huge margin in the 2018 elections.

“These are genuine statistics which ought us to worry much and if we are not careful we can lose the upcoming elections,” said Mohadi.

Mohadi acknowledged the country’s economic challenges but blamed Western sanctions for the hardships being experienced by Zimbabweans.

ZRP Under Spotlight Over Moreblessing Ali’s Murder

By A Correspondent- Pressure is mounting on the police to unearth the circumstances behind the alleged abduction and murder of opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist Moreblessing Ali by suspected Zanu-PF members.

The police are being accused of “concealing” evidence to exonerate the ruling Zanu-PF party from the gruesome murder.

Ali (35) was allegedly abducted in Chitungwiza two weeks ago and her mutilated remains were recovered from a disused well in Manyame on Saturday.

Police were as of late yesterday yet to conclude identification of the remains, while results of an autopsy are yet to be released.

In a statement, police said the body was discovered by Linnah Mukandi (57), who is the mother of the prime suspect Pius Jamba, whose whereabouts remain a mystery.

Ali’s family lawyer, Job Sikhala, has, however, taken exception to the way the whole saga has unfolded.

“We are so inquisitive. How would even lovers who have decided to part ways decide to kill each other in such a brutal way that Ali was killed? The police are trying to give a picture that Pius Jamba and Simbarashe Chisango are not of the same mother. They are just trying to conceal and protect something from the public. Police are doing that for the purpose to extricate Zanu-PF from its involvement, knowing well that Simba is a prominent Zanu-PF terror gang leader in Nyatsime. For them to remove Zanu-PF from the equation, they’re trying to conceal that relationship,” Sikhala told NewsDay at Ali’s funeral wake yesterday.

“We want these people to be apprehended. We are not going to move back. We are going to continue demanding the apprehension of these people who murdered this innocent woman for no apparent reason. There is nothing whatsoever that can lead to taking human life which is sacrosanct.

“We cannot allow this thing to continue. We have had many people who disappeared without a trace. Itai Dzamara was taken in the public glare in Glen View and up to now, there is no closure to that case. We want to know Ali’s killers. This thing is not going to end well if this doesn’t come to conclusion. We will make sure that her spirit won’t rest until these people are haunted. All their extended families shall suffer,” Sikhala added.

He vowed that if a post-mortem is done excluding Ali’s family, her remains would not be laid to rest.

“We are not going to allow a post-mortem examination that will be done without my full participation as a family lawyer. We are not going to accept a post-mortem alone, we want a forensic examination. We want full disclosure of how she was murdered. We want full medical material facts that will assist to come to conclusion of this matter. I will not betray the trust the family has put in me to make sure that all due processes are done within the ambits of confidence and law,” Sikhala declared.

A family member who preferred anonymity accused the police of snubbing the family during investigations.

“From the beginning, the police were not co-operating with us. At first, the police called Chisango and told him that they wanted Jamba at police and he said he would look for him. I once told the Assistant Inspector at Beatrice that our case wasn’t being held well.

“We spent three days without knowing the RRB (Report Received Book) number. There was a lack of co-operation until Saturday when I got the message that Ali’s body had been found. But for now, I don’t know the police officers handling the case,” the family member said.

When contacted for an update, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said: “We stand by the statement which we issued last night (Saturday).”

Part of Nyathi’s Saturday statement read: “Some are openly inciting violence … The police reiterates that this is a callous and heinous crime of which all efforts will be made to ensure that suspects are brought to book without fail … Politicians should not interfere with criminal investigations and allow the due process of the law to be followed. The police will leave no stone unturned in order to locate the suspect Pius Jamba and any other suspect linked to this case. Police will release detailed information soon.”

Zanu-PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa and party director for information Tafadzwa Mugwadi could not be reached for comment yesterday.

The ruling party’s national administration secretary Obert Mpofu refused to comment on the matter.

“Contact Mutsvangwa or Mugwadi,” he said curtly.

Meanwhile, there has been an upsurge in politically-related abductions and incidents of violence as political temperatures continue to rise ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Non-governmental organisation Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP), which has been documenting human rights abuses, said the patterns of intimidation, harassment, abductions and assaults implicating the ruling party continued unabated in the month of May.

The organisation recorded cases in which Zanu-PF abused its influence in government to manipulate national processes like the voter registration blitz, the mobile national documentation outreach and food aid distribution.

Zanu-PF ward leaders are allegedly holding meetings, mostly in Mashonaland, Masvingo and Manicaland provinces threatening that if the ruling party lost the 2023 elections, they would — together with State security agents — unleash violence similar to that of the 2008 re-run that saw former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai (now late) pulling out of the race, with then President Robert Mugabe (also late) running the race alone.

The violence was so unbearable that Mugabe won uncontested.

“So far, Zanu-PF has been responsible for 165 human rights violations in April and 193 in May, all related to how the party is closing down the space for opposition activity,” ZPP said.-newsday

Fresh Collission Brewing Between ZimSec, Markers

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) and script markers are heading for a fresh collision as the latter complain that the value of their payouts has been eroded by inflation.

Zimsec recently paid examiners their dues for marking the 2021 Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations.

Zimbabwe’s inflation is currently deemed the world’s highest and when the examiners signed contracts to mark O and A Level examinations early this year, the$33 000 agreements were worth US$140, but when government finally paid, it was sitting at around US$55.

There are reports that Zimsec is battling a financial crisis that resulted in its failure to pay examiners on time.

An examiner who requested anonymity accused government of deliberately delaying to pay them.

“Government no longer cares and doesn’t respect us anymore. This is not what we signed up for. When we signed this contract, we were supposed to get US$140, but now, we can’t even afford (anything). They just want to see us suffering. It’s now more than seven months since we signed these contracts,” the examiner said.

Teachers’ unions yesterday told NewsDay that the markers’ salaries were grossly inadequate.

Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Obert Masaraure said their salary was now a mockery.

“These salaries are a mockery of the hard work that has been put in by our teachers who were marking O and A Level examinations. When they signed this contract, they were expecting to be paid around US$140, but now, they get something which is equivalent to US$55.

“This is deliberate from Zimsec and the government. This is regrettable and in future, teachers may choose not to participate in this process. We urge teachers that in future, they should sign time-bound contracts. They are able to sue them,” Masaraure said.

In a tweet, Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) said the figures being paid to examiners induced a sense of shock.

“Zimsec finally paid O and A Level markers their dues, about $33 000. When they signed their contracts in February, that was worth US$135. Today, it’s US$55. Both figures induce a sense of shock. Has the profession fallen from grace this much?” PTUZ quried.

Educators Union of Zimbabwe vice-president Tapedza Zhou said government had failed to take teachers seriously.

“It is disgusting. We are not happy about the salary. It shows how Zimsec and the government are not serious about teachers’ welfare. We are saying that after work, we deserve to be paid, and they deliberately postponed paying these teachers because they know that after a certain period of time, that money will lose value,” Zhou said.

Slain CCC Member Langelihle Dube Burial Date Set

By A Correspondent- Bulawayo entrepreneur and Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) member Langelihle Dube, who was killed by a machete gang on June 8, will be buried today in Esigodini, Matabeleland South province.

The marauding machete gang pounced at Dube’s home at around 2am demanding money, injured him and later robbed his wife of US$25 before disappearing.

Dube sustained thigh and head injuries believed to have led to his death.

CCC Bulawayo province tweeted yesterday that Dube would be buried in Esigodini today.

“Due to the overwhelming outpouring of grief by family and citizens (local and abroad), burial has been postponed to Monday June 13 at Mlomoliwoto in Esigodini,” the party said.

The body left Bulawayo yesterday for Esigodini.

On Wednesday last week, CCC Bulawayo province announced that Dube, popularly known as Mr Tuesday, who personally mobilised and helped to register the highest number of voters among all CCC district members, had died during the attack by the thugs at his Lobengula home.

Family spokesperson Kholisani Matenga told the State media last week that he believed Dube’s death was a result of opportunistic crime.

Indications are that when the criminals broke into Dube’s house, he tried to fight them.

It also emerged that a week ago, there was another robbery at a nearby church, where thieves confronted a church treasurer demanding cash.

Lovers In Soup Over Gun

By A Correspondent- A 27 year old man from Emganwini suburb and his girlfriend have been dragged to court for illegal possession of a firearm.

Simelweyinkosi Dube (27) and his girlfriend Carl Ncube were on Tuesday arraigned before Bulawayo regional magistrate Elisha Singano, who remanded them in custody to June 20.

The firearm, a Browning pistol, is suspected to have been used in a spate of armed robberies in the city.

It was found in their bedroom wardrobe.

Prosecutor Patience Sibanda told the court that on November 14, 2021, the Bulawayo Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Homicide squad arrested Dube over an armed robbery case which had occurred along Harare-Bulawayo Highway on September 8, 2021.

After the arrest, it is alleged that Dube hid the pistol in his wardrobe at their Emganwini home.

The duo was nabbed after detective Wellington Masuku received a tip-off that the suspect in the robbery case was Dube.

He was arrested after he took his vehicle to a mechanic in Cowdray Park.

Dube tried to flee, but was shot on the left thigh. He later disclosed to the police that the pistol they were looking for was at his Emganwini house.

Ncube was also charged for unlicensed possession of a firearm.

She, however, denied the charges and alleged that she never saw the pistol while cleaning the bedroom.

Dube was transferred from Gwanda provincial magistrates’ court, where he had another pending trial for robbery cases.

He was granted bail in January this year after getting arrested and detained at Gwanda Police Station for other robbery charges.-newsday

Auxillia Mnangagwa Man-Handles Zimra Official

By-First lady Auxillia Mnangagwa reportedly caused chaos at the Forbes border post accusing ZIMRA officials of corruption.

According to a ZimLive report, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s wife shouted at one ZIMRA employee for staring at her, and her aides also grabbed a manager by his belt.

The incident allegedly occurred in early May this year as the first lady returned from an unexplained road trip to Mozambique. ZimLive quoted a source as saying:

She got out of her vehicle with aides and started shouting at everyone, accusing the border officials of being corrupt.

She started asking those who were close for their names. She picked on a ZIMRA officer and accused him of staring at her as if she was a prostitute.

She then demanded to see the ZIMRA manager, Tichaona Phiri, who was in his office. She sent her aides to get him. He was literally manhandled by his belt to meet her.

She shouted at him for not coming to meet her and then instructed her boys to ‘take him and go with him.

The poor manager was moved around the border while being held by his belt. She kept on shouting.

When the manager was finally let go, she demanded that he should be fired as well as the ZIMRA officer accused of staring.

Phiri, the regional manager for ZIMRA, reportedly moved out of his office and started working from home following the incident.

The reason behind Mnangagwa’s alleged outburst has not been revealed, however, it is suspected that it is linked to two incidents at the border when goods linked to the first family or their associates were withheld. Said a ZimLivesource at the border:

Phiri seized 15 trucks loaded with chrome which had been under-weighed.

The trucks were destined for shipment in Beira and had the fingerprints of the first family.

It took the intervention of the ZIMRA commissioner for customs (Batsirai Chadzingwa) for the trucks to be released.

On another occasion, one of the sons imported some Italian booze which was labelled in Italian.

It was held up because no one at the border understood Italian.

After angry phone calls, Chadzingwa stepped in once more to get it released.

Chadzingwa reportedly visited the Forbes border to understand what really transpired after the Auxillia Mnangagwa incident.

A ZIMRA spokesman refused to comment on the incident.

USD $40 000 Needed To Run Caps United Every Month

CAPS United president Farai Jere says US$40 000 is needed to run the Castle Lager Premiership football club every month and he is willing to dispose of the Green Machine for free to anyone with the capacity to sustain the Harare giants.

Makepekepe have deteriorated in the face of a damaging series of industrial action since 2019, with the club struggling to get results on the field of play.

With 17 games into the season, the Harare giants have managed only 17 points, one above the team occupying the last relegation slot.

And there have been mumbles of dissatisfaction over the manner in which Jere and his partner Nhamo Tutisani are running the club.

CAPS United fans have been unequivocally calling out the duo to sell the club amid reports several individuals and entities are interested in the team.

The Herald reports that Jere yesterday said he had been approached but no one has bothered to come back to him once he explains they would need at least US$40 000 every month to be able to sustain the club. He said:

That’s stupidity, people will just be talking to impress the public. They would be saying we have money but he (Jere) doesn’t want to sell (CAPS United).

But the moment they come to my office, I give them everything, the breakdown, you need US$40 000 per month to run CAPS United, they never come back.

We are not talking of someone who has just got some money, we are talking of consistency, for how many years would they be able to run this team, not someone who has got money now. Do you understand? (We are talking of) sustainability.

We look into the future, are you able to sustain this? I am very proud of having run CAPS United over the last 18 years, since 2004, this is 2022, the consistency, who has got it, they should come forward. We will give them the team, no problem, not a problem at all, not just talking, pub talk, that we have approached them and they refused the sponsorship, that’s pub-talk.

Understand the issue of pub-talk, people talking while drinking beer, showing off that I have the money, let them come and we sit on the table, I can even give them the team without paying the money, I am telling you this on record.

Jere said he loves the Green Machine so much and he would only dispose of the club on condition that the potential suitors demonstrate their potential to run the team for at least a year.- Pindula News

Mnangagwa: Elections Are All About Preserving Our Freedom From Whites, Anyone Caught Not Fighting Whites Is Demon Possessed

Mnangagwa Says Everyone Not Fighting Whites During Elections Are Demon Possessed | VIDEO

“2013 Constitution Is A Dictator’s Decree”

By Wilbert Mukori- Honour your father and mother and above all honour the truth!

“Contrary to the nonsense I was reading on social media, they (Zanu-PF) approached Alex and I just felt that out of respect, after the period of mourning if they continue, I will set the record straight,” Hopewell Chin’ono reportedly told the guests at the late Magaisa’s memorial lecture.

“We know the people. We have got names and some of them came through me. But Alex said, ‘No. I am a Zimbabwean. If you do things right, you do not need Magaisa’s support. Do not look for individuals. Do the right thing and the whole country will support you’.”

Well, the whole nation is certainly waiting to hear why MDC failed to implement even one meaningful democratic reform during the 2008 to 2013 Government of National Unity (GNU). This was the golden opportunity to dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship and it is treasonous that the opportunity was callously wasted.

It is a historic fact that Mugabe bribed the MDC leaders with the trappings of high office, the gravy train, and, with their snouts in the feeding trough, the forgot about the reforms.

“Mazivanhu eMDC adzidza kudya anyerere!” (MDC leaders have learned to enjoy the gravy train good life, they will not rock the boat!) boasted Zanu PF cronies when asked why MDC leaders were not implementing the reforms.

Dr Alex Magaisa was the MDC T leader, late Dr Richard Morgan Tsvangirai’s special adviser during the GNU. What advice did Dr Magaisa give MDC T on reforms?

It is possible that Dr Magaisa advised MDC T to implement the democratic reforms but his advice was not heeded. SADC leaders, amongst many others, repeatedly warned the MDC leaders on the need to implement reforms during the GNU but their warning fell on deaf ears.

If it was that Dr Maagaisa gave MDC T leaders the right advice but was ignored, then why did he not do the only decent thing and resign? He has had the opportunity since the end of the GNU to come clean on why not even one token reform was implemented during the GNU; he has not done so.

And so, unless we see the evidence to the contrary, MDC leaders failed to implement even one token reform during the 2008 to 2013 GNU because they were corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent. Dr Alex Magaisa, as Dr Tsvangirai’s chief advisers, played his part in this treasonous sell out!

It is all very well for Chin’ono to say Magaisa never sold-out to Zanu PF; he must square the circle and reconcile that with the historic fact that not even one token reform was implemented during the GNU.

Speak to the same audience, top human rights lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa said: “I believe that we should have regular lectures to celebrate each other. Alex was a vital core in the (2013 Zimbabwe) Constitution-making process which culminated in what we now have which I consider a decent Constitution.”

I am not a lawyer and am given to believe Paul Mangwana’s boast that the constitution was “dictated” by Robert Mugabe. Mangwana is himself a lawyer and was Zanu PF’s MP and co-chair in the parliamentary committee that drafted the constitution. Mugabe was a ruth tyrant and dictator and not the one to dictate “a decent constitution”.

Indeed, the 2013 Zimbabwe constitution is a dictator’s decree and hence the reason why it failed its number one test – failed deliver a free, fair and credible elections in July 2013, just four months after its 95% approval in the March 2013 referendum.

Open Letter To SADC, African Union And The UN

By Kennedy Kaitano- Addressing a Zanu PF cell meeting recently, the Zanu PF President and President of Zimbabwe, Comrade Emmerson Mnangagwa, in trying to push for voter registration said “All those who don’t have IDs must come together and you get their names to the councillor so they get IDs….I am saying this as the most senior member in the cell, that once you have all those who don’t have IDs tell me so that I can send a team that will give them registration here”.

A few weeks ago we read of a story in which people mobilised by Zanu PF were getting national registration documents in the middle of night in Masvingo. This exercise had not been publicized, but people had been bussed in to register. This night registration happened at a time when a public voter registration and national registration exercise were in progress.

However, there had been numerous reports that the national programme was deliberately slowing down the process resulting in many people being turned away because the officials closed for the day before they had been attended to.

Analysts believe that the national process was being slowed down to deny people the opportunity to register, and the non-Zanu PF would be disenfranchised because they would not be registered, while the Zanu PF members would be registered through the clandestine night registration exercises.

Comrade Mnangagwa’s statement during the cell meeting when he said “I am saying this as the most senior member in the cell, that once you have all those who don’t have IDs tell me so that I can send a team that will give them registration here” proves beyond any reasonable doubt that the night registration incident that happened in Masvingo which was exposed by alert journalists is an ongoing rigging exercise initiated by non-other than President Mnangagwa.

So the Zanu PF supporters do not even need to present in-person to apply for registration documents, but simply hand over their details to a councillor and the whole process would be done for them? Good on them. Good on President Mnangagwa.

Comrade President, this practice must stop. You are not a national president, you are not a national leader if you orchestrate such blatant rigging shenanigans where genuine citizens who need identification documents are denied registration. Zanu PF supporters without national identification documents would simply submit their names to a councillor, and the next thing they have a national identification document, and they are registered voters. Mr. President you are an international disgrace, and thanks to the media for exposing you, especially your desperate remarks at the cell meeting in Kwekwe.

The task of the opposition and civic society should now be to alert these young people who are being registered clandestinely to vote against such corrupt practice. How can you trust a President who does not follow due process? a President who fraudulently registers voters at night when people who make an effort and spend time in queues to register are shut out? Corruption begets corruption, the young people must be told and should use the voting opportunity to get rigid of corrupt leaders who will ruin their future.

SADC, the African Union, and the United Nations must take President Mnangagwa’s shenanigans seriously and should warn him to stop such corrupt practices immediately. This is not only an abuse of office by the President, but it is an abuse of human rights too.

Those in Zanu PF who receive this message must tell their leader that he has gone overdrive in his corrupt tendencies and must start behaving like a national leader.

“We Are Treating The Matter As A Missing Person On Police Wanted List”

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is looking for a 19-year-old learner at St Matthias Tsonzo High School who allegedly disappeared in December 2021 following his release from police custody.

Livingstone Sunhwa (19) had been arrested on allegations of breaking into the school’s tuckshop and stealing groceries.

The stolen groceries were allegedly found tucked under his bed.

Police say they released Livingstone so that he could sit for his final English examinations.

But now the parties involved in the teenager’s disappearance are trading accusations.

The school tuckshop was broken into and authorities decided to bring in the police to investigate.

During investigations, it is said the police discovered shoeprints and traced them to the boys’ dormitory and further investigations revealed that Livingstone was the culprit.

Since he was a major at law, Livingstone was taken to Mutasa Police Station for further interrogations.

The headmaster, one Sambona, and two teachers, reportedly made a follow-up and negotiated with the police for Livingstone’s release.

However, the teenager allegedly disappeared the following morning, 6 December.

Six months have passed with no information about the boy’s whereabouts which has prompted his mother, Selina Tadya, to demand answers from the school authorities.

Tadya, who is originally from Dangamvura, Mutare, and is currently based in South Africa, said:

I am traumatised. Even if he had committed an offence, I was supposed to be informed of the action taken against him.

The police arrested my son and they wanted him to disclose his accomplices, which he did not do.

I pleaded with the headmaster to negotiate for his release so that he could sit for his exams while I work on the modalities to return to Zimbabwe and settle the matter with the school. I was ready to pay for the stolen goods.

The headmaster picked my son from police custody on December 5 on the understanding that he would call me so that I talk to him, but he did not do that.

He contacted me the following day, saying my son was missing and had not turned up for the English examination.

This forced me to make haste arrangements to travel to Zimbabwe and I went to the school on December 12 and spent a week looking for him in futility.

I then proceeded to Mutasa Police Station to lodge a missing person report.

… I suspect the school authorities had a hand in his disappearance. Why is the headmaster denying that my son was assaulted by the police?

Why didn’t he take action when he went missing? He was the last person to be seen with my son and should account for his whereabouts. I am appealing for justice.

Anglican Diocese of Manicaland registrar and spokesperson, Ashel Mutungura said:

We are aware of the matter. On the morning of December 5, the tuck-shop assistant noticed that there was a break-in and some goods had been stolen.

The incident occurred on the heels of another break-in at the church tuck-shop where Food and Nutrition ingredients and utensils for practical exams had been stolen.

As a result, police were invited and during investigations, they detected some shoeprints leading to the boys’ hostel.

It was then discovered that Livingstone was the culprit after being found in possession of the stolen items.

He was 19 and being a major at law, the police took him for further interrogations after he refused to disclose his accomplices.

The next day, the headmaster and two teachers made a follow-up to the police to negotiate for his release so that he could sit for his English exam the following day.

He was taken back to the school and was handed over to the boarding master around 6 pm.

He actually slept in the hostel and left around 5 am on the pretext of preparing for the exams. It was then discovered that he had gone missing.

The teachers and ancillary staff formed a search party but failed to locate him.

We had to report the matter to the police since it involved a missing person.

We have done everything humanly possible to locate Livingstone. Everyone wants to know where he is.

ZRP spokesperson in Manicaland Province, Inspector Nixon Muzondo, said Livingstone is on the police’s wanted list. He said:

This matter was handled professionally by the police. The suspect was 19 and is treated as an adult.

He committed a crime that was reported by the school authorities to the police.

The stolen goods were recovered from underneath his bed. This is the evidence which linked him to the commission of the crime.

We released him at the behest of the school authorities for the purposes of writing the examination, but he disappeared to an unknown place.

He is on the police’s wanted list. We are treating him as a wanted person and a missing person.

Zanu PF Structures Audit Marred By Confusion

By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF’s attempts to audit its structures ahead of the 2023 elections was marred by a poor turnout and confusion in most parts of the country with the ruling party’s deputy secretary Kembo Mohadi cancelling the exercise in his home town after members failed to turn up.

The ruling party was auditing its structures after the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change’s (CCC) showing in the March by-elections sent fears of an electoral defeat in the 2023 polls.

In Beitbridge, party members stayed away from the cell audit exercise, with Mohadi who was overseeing the exercise openly expressing his frustrations and disappointment.

Only 35 people attended the event.

“We will be back here on July 2 and I want to see an improvement,” Mohadi charged.

“On that day I want to see faces and not just a register. It’s just one day and we must show commitment.

“I am disappointed with this lack of commitment. We need unity and cohesion within the party.

“Cells should develop into branches to show there is growth within the party.”

The poor turnout was also recorded in other parts of the country such as Hurungwe, Chivhu, Gwanda and Mutare.

At Gwanda High School, less than five people turned up, and meeting was cancelled.

In some districts, the cell audit meetings had to be cancelled after people either failed to show up.

A snap survey in Harare revealed that many residents were mainly concerned with pushing their daily activities, including vending while there was no clear position on the venues where the meetings would be conducted.

“The challenge is with the leadership.

“People are wondering whether the new leaders have the capacity to mobilise people and even convince ordinary people to join Zanu-PF,” a Zanu-PF source said.

Ruling party supporters were also forced to start door-to-door campaigns as they tried to mobilise people to attend the cell meetings.

Cecil Kashiri, the MP for Magunje, said they were forced to start their exercise well after lunch as “most cell party members are communal farmers, who had to attend to their fields first.”

Addressing 59 Zanu-PF cell members who included his wife, Auxilia, young brothers and son Emmerson Jnr, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said he was ready to assist party members obtain IDs.

“You said all those who don’t have IDs must come together and you get their names to the councillor so that they get IDs,” Mnangagwa said.

“I am saying as the most senior member in the cell, that once you have all those who don’t have IDs tell me so that I can send a team that will give them registration here.

In a bid to garner five million votes in the 2023 polls to ensure an outright win and avoid a run-off, Zanu-PF is pushing a voter registration drive by assisting its supporters to obtain ID cards.

The opposition has said most of its supporters in urban areas were finding it difficult to get IDs, a key requirement during voter registration.

The audit in Bulawayo was also characterised by a poor turnout amid indications that some party members had difficulties identifying the cells they belonged to.

“Zanu PF Haunted By Apathy”

By A Correspondent- Exiled former Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi has warned ZANU PF that the low turnout membership turnout witnessed during yesterday’s cell audits is a harbinger of impending catastrophe at the polls.

Reports suggest that few people turned up for the cell verification process of the faction-riddled ruling party while in some places it failed to take place at all.

In some districts, the cell audit meetings were reportedly cancelled after people stayed away in their hundreds.

Posting on Twitter, Mzembi said ZANU PF’s popularity has plummeted to below 2008 levels when the party lost its parliamentary majority for the first time since independence. Said Mzembi:

ZANU PF National Cell Day verdict! Hazvina kufamba mushe (I didn’t go well), the biggest problem being apathy. The cells are also becoming fishing ponds for everyone opposed to the GOP, data is all over Virtual Cells for food distribution more than Party mobilisation.

Cell Audits are more accurate than Afrobarometer poll surveys that gave ED a 51% popularity rating recently.

A turnout yesterday of less than a million ( ZANU PF sources) out of a possible 2.5m based on 50000 cells and 50 members per cell is damning.

Party popularity is now below 2008 levels, be warned Two things are militating against the Party, an Economy that is serving none except leadership and its families and gross factionalism combined with a failure to unite the Party. Take heed!

I sign off by saying Party leadership should avoid going down with the Party, a suicidal trait that I even counselled RG against in persuading him to seek reintegration of G40 with the mainstream, 5 years later you are behaving the same.

“Worshippers’ Charge Embarrassing”: Lawyer

By A Correspondent- A Harare magistrate yesterday granted bail to 10 worshippers who were arrested on charges of disorderly conduct on Friday during a prayer meeting in the capital.

The 10, who were granted $5 000 bail each by Magistrate Yeukai Dzuda, were remanded to June 24.

The remaining 24 opted to pay fines for disorderly conduct.

They were arrested at the Reformed Church in Zimbabwe building in central Harare where they intended to launch ‘The Zimbabwe We Want’ campaign in response to the country’s dire socio-economic crisis.

They were represented by Paida Saurombe from Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), who said police failed to come up with a solid charge.

“There is no state outline, the charge was embarrassing,” Saurombe said.

“They had to force others to pay fine because there was no charge. We will get the charge on the next date we are coming back to court.

“They were even asking why they were even arrested.

Moses Mapakanga represented the state.

Police said the worshippers were supposed to seek police clearance first in line with the country’s laws.

But their arrest follows concerns by the opposition and human rights activists over the shrinking democratic space in the country.-standard

“Zanu Pf Has Taken Over The Police”: Kademaunga

By A Correspondent- Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) Secretary for Public Service and Social Welfare, Maureen Kademaunga, said the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) needs to be rescued from ZANU PF so that it can discharge its constitutional mandate professionally.

In a Twitter thread, Kademaunga said ZANU PF has taken over policing in the country thereby undermining ZRP and resulting in the erosion of public confidence in the police force.

She wrote:

/5 We must rescue the police from ZANU P.F! The Zimbabwean Police has proved to be competent and able to solve crimes but with a worrying exception in cases that involve murders, abductions and general abuse of hrds & political actors that are critical of the ZANU PF regime and…

2/5 more glaringly murder cases in which a ZANU P.F member is named as a suspect. It is obvious to see that politics is now taking over policing! The continued undue political interference in policing undermines the police’s effectiveness in carrying out its mandate & erodes the public…

3/5 confidence in the police thereby breeding non-cooperation and a real danger of degeneration into lawlessness. Politics must stay out of Policing! Public confidence in the police is now very low and yet it is a key element for effective policing.

4/5 Policing is anchored on a dual aspect of the enforcement of the law and enablement of rights & as such relies much on the public’s confidence that the police’s powers are just and necessary and free of undue political influence.

5/5 The regime must allow police to be a non-partisan, apolitical organisation that polices by consent with respect and approval of the public as enshrined in the constitution. Otherwise, we may never get justice for Moreblessing Ali, Langalihle Dube, Mboneni, Mazwi Ndlovu etc

2Covid- 19 Funds Looted”: Parlie Report

By A Correspondent- A parliamentary report has exposed massive graft, looting and diversion of material and financial resources worth several millions of dollars earmarked for the Covid-19 fight.

The Brian Dube chaired public accounts committee recommended the arrest and prosecution of officials implicated in the plunder of Covid-19 funds and resources in its report presented to Parliament in May.

The report exposes how millions of dollars from the Public and Social Welfare ministry for the Covid-19 fight could not be accounted for, with eligible beneficiaries also not receiving any support owing to the plunder.

“The distribution mechanism of the Covid 19 allowances was in shambles leaving the process open to abuse,” the report reads in part.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police and Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission should institute investigations on the issue of duplicate beneficiaries with a view to prosecuting those guilty of any wrongdoing within 180 days of tabling this report.”

The vulnerable, aged and orphans among others on the social welfare list including vendors were set to receive Covid-19 relief funds under a $600 million cash transfer programme in 2020 when the first lockdown was announced.

They were meant to receive the money through the state owned Net-One mobile telecommunications company’s OneMoney.

Reports at the time said each beneficiary was meant to receive about $300, then enough to buy a bag of mealie meal.

“The Mutare district social welfare office database, which was submitted to the head office for payment of allowances had the following anomalies: 58 beneficiaries who received Covid-19 allowances amounting to $45 240, had similar identity numbers, different dates of birth and of a different gender,” the report reads.

“375 beneficiaries had uncontactable addresses and ID numbers quoted which did not exist as confirmed with the RG’s Office.

“These beneficiaries received Covid-19 allowances amounting to $292 500.”

It adds: “The Manicaland provincial social welfare officer could not provide to the auditor general with a consolidated report and copies of confirmation of receipt of the $3 959 950 Covid-19 allowances disbursed by head office and paid to 18 349 beneficiaries in the province.”

The committee also raised a red flag over questionable disbursements of travel allowances to inmates when they left quarantine centres.

“Mushagashe Quarantine Centre did not avail payment schedules to support bus fares amounting to $42 930 paid to inmates that were leaving the centre.

“A schedule showing payments amounting to $18 300 for twenty-seven (27) inmates at Mushagashe Quarantine Centre revealed that the inmates received the bus fares on September 10, 2020,” the report said.

“However, the admissions and discharge register indicated that the inmates were discharged on September 22, 2020, 13 days after payment date.

“Out of a total amount of $597 460 paid, inmates whose bus fare payments amounted to $516 370 did not sign the acquittal forms at Mushagashe Quarantine Centre as proof that they had received the amounts indicated.”

In Midlands, the report exposed how the Gweru infectious diseases hospital remained unsuitable to handle Covid-19 cases after funds were either diverted, or not utilised.

“The auditor-general (AG) observed that funds amounting to $581 945 were disbursed for refurbishment of Gweru Infectious Diseases Hospital through the Municipality of Gweru in order to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 disease.

“AG’s concern was that these funds were redirected to refurbish Mkoba 1 Clinic and there were no supporting documents and progress reports to support usage of the funds.

“Consequently, the hospital remained not fully equipped thereby rendering it unsuitable to fight the Covid-19 pandemic,” the report reads.

“The auditor-general further observed that out of funds totalling $4 600 000 disbursed for refurbishment of Gweru Infectious Diseases Hospital, an amount of $1 305 681 was still unused.”

In 2020, President Emmerson Mnangagwa fired Health and Child Care minister Obadiah Moyo after he was charged with criminal abuse of office over the awarding of a $60m contract to a company that allegedly sold supplies to the government at inflated prices.

According to court papers, Moyo allegedly awarded a multimillion tender to Drax International LLC, headquartered in the United Arab Emirates, which was concluded without the consent of the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe.

A representative of Drax was named as Delish Nguwaya who has been reported as having links to the first family.

Mwonzora Dumped

By A Correspondent- Former MDC-T’s Harare chairperson Zivai Mhetu has dumped the Douglas Mwonzora-led opposition party, saying its drubbing during recent by-elections showed that Zimbabweans now preferred the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa.

Mhetu was the MDC Alliance’s candidate in the Epworth constituency March 26 by-election and was suspended from the party after he blamed Mwonzora for the defeat.

He came third after CCC’s Earthrage  Kureva and Zanu-PF’s winning candidate Zalera Makari.

Mhetu has been denied entry into Harvest House, the MDC-T headquarters, after speaking against Mwonzora’s alleged misuse of funds and abuse of office.

Addressing hundreds of his followers in Epworth yesterday, Mhetu described the leadership of Mwonzora as “dead”.

“The results of the March 26 by-elections revealed that the MDC’s era has come to an end, and that the people no longer support and believe in it as a people’s movement,” he said.

“Since its formation in 1999, the MDC has never failed to win a seat prior to the March 26 by-elections.

“The unmistakable truth is that the CCC is now the people’s party, and I have always advocated for people-centred principles and values.

“My crushing defeat in the March 26 by-elections was a rude awakening to the fact that the Epworth constituency had been lost to Zanu-PF due to a divided opposition.

“Zanu-PF would have been defeated if Ethrage Kureva and I had combined our numbers.

“Only a CCC-led people’s representation, not Zanu-PF’s politicking, will bring title deeds to Epworth residents.

“The state of Epworth’s roads reflects Zanu-PF’s failure to develop the satellite town, and there is a need for an opposition MP who can represent the interests and values of his or her constituency.’

He said he was joining CCC.

“In the name of nationalism, I have decided to join the CCC and stand with the people,” Mhetu said.

“Zimbabwe’s political reality is that there are two political parties.

“While Zanu-PF seeks to maintain the status quo, CCC seeks to effect political change.

“I humbly invite all political parties to join CCC, the people’s movement and party, as we prepare for a landslide victory in the 2023 general elections to form the new government that the people have been longing for.”

Former MDC-T vice-president Thokozani Khupe also recently joined CCC after her fallout with Mwonzora.

Kagonye “Fell From Grace”

By A Correspondent- A Harare magistrate has described the conviction and jailing of former Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Petronella Kagonye, as a “fall from grace”.

Harare regional magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti Guwuriro on Thursday sentenced Kagonye, to 36 months in prison for theft of trust property.

Muchuchuti Guwuriro on Wednesday convicted Kagonye after a full trial. Delivering the ruling the following day, the magistrate said:

The court also considered case law that states that Judicial officers shouldn’t allow their emotions to take over their judgment and that a magistrate must be dispassionate in passing sentences and the objective of the sentence must be clear.

It is a world trend to spare first offenders and she’s a former Minister of Public Service

Labour and Social Welfare, whose mandate was to make sure that the less-privileged are taken care of.

She was the best person who should have understood the importance of taking the laptops to the children but she was the one who stole the bread from the hungry.

It is surely a fall from grace and the conviction embarrasses her and it’s a form of punishment and the court has taken note of that.

A fine would trivialise the offence because she stole public funds and where public funds are involved, traits of corruption can be seen and, it would be a sad day for justice to give her community service and a custodial sentence is justified due to the high moral blameworthiness.

Kagonye was sentenced to 36 months in jail. 12 months were set aside on condition she doesn’t commit a similar offence involving dishonesty, in the next five years.

A further 8 months were suspended on condition she restitutes the total value of the stolen laptops, which is US$10 000, on or before 31 August, this year.

Kagonye will therefore serve an effective 16 months in prison.

Kagonye’s lawyer, Rungano Mahuni said they will file an appeal at the High Court against the conviction and sentencing.

Auxillia Mnangagwa Threatens To Beat Up Zimra Officials

Moreblessing Ali’s Mutilated Body In Two Parts

HARARE — Slain Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist Moreblessing Ali’s mutilated body was packed into a body bag in two parts, with police stuffing her intestines in a plastic, party legislator Job Sikhala has said.

Ali, 46, went missing on 24 May this year after she was reportedly attacked by some alleged Zanu PF activists.

Her body was recovered Saturday in a well at a farm in Beatrice, a farming community neighbouring Harare.

Sikhala, who part of the CCC politicians who witnessed the retrieval of the body later said the body was taken to Chitungwiza hospital mortuary in two parts.

“We are now leaving Chitungwiza Central Hospital mortuary where Moreblessing Ali’s tattered body has been left by the police.

“The body is into two parts. The bottom from the waist on its own and the top the same.

“Intestines packed in a plastic,” said the politician.

Meanwhile, police on Saturday issued threats against unnamed opposition lawyers and politicians it said were profiting from the activist’s misfortune to incite violence.

In a statement, Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the law enforcement agency was still to verify the identity of the body although confirming they were after Pius Jamba, the suspect in the killing of the mother of two.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the recovery of a mutilated body at Plot number 321 Denota Farm, Beatrice, in a well on 11th June 2022,” Nyathi said.
