LEAD’s Workers Day Statement

LEAD President Workers Day 2022 statement

1 May 2022

As the whole world celebrates Workers day today, my heart bleeds with sorrow about the current working conditions of the majority of workers in Zimbabwe who are struggling to make ends meet.

One of the struggles that led to the Chimurenga liberation struggle was the worker’s struggle, need for self determination, equal opportunities and land to all native Zimbabweans.

42 years after independence, workers are now in a worse off situation than they were in the colonial era. The gains of the liberation struggle have been reversed by a governance system that is anti-workers and leaders who are greedy, selfish and corrupt across the political divide.

Politicians continue using the worker’s struggle for their own political grandstanding at the expense of the worker. The struggle for emancipation by the Zimbabwean workers has its roots in the happenings of the late 19th Century.

After obtaining the Rudd concession the whites did not stop but rushed to obtain the royal charter from the Queen of England. If one reads this colonial document together with the Rudd concession they will realize that it was these documents that stripped the Zimbabwean people of their right to own resources and turned them into labourers.

The 1893 and 1896 rebellions were efforts by our ancestors to reject being reduced to second class citizens in their own land. THE First Chimurenga was not only a fascinating protest and African struggle rallying against colonialism but a rejection of the colonial socio-economic system.

However due to superiority of fire power we lost and the whole nation was turn into a reserve of labourers for the emerging colonial state. The Africans were forced into tribal trust lands (marginal farming areas characterised by poor climatic and soil conditions) while the whites not only took the best farming lands but also began to fashion out an agro based industry.

The harsh economic conditions in the reserves had few survival options and black people had no choice but to turn to the whites for wage labour. Gradually a new type of African man who depended on wage labour emerged. To keep the Africans coming the whites not only treated these workers as subhuman but offered them very low wages.

As early as 1910 the Afrikans began to organize themselves to challenge not only the low wages but the whole idea of having to be treated as subhuman yet they were the means by which the white economy grew. In 1914, the Matabele National Home Movement became vocal in denouncing plans to reduce the size of reserves which was a means to further impoverish the Afrikans so that they could provide cheap labour to whites.

In 1922, there was a referendum on whether to have ties with South Africa but only 60 out of the 900 000 African workers and their families were eligible to vote. In response, Abraham Twala, a Zulu Anglican teacher wrote:

“Experience has taught us that our salvation does not lie in Downing Street.” Surprisingly that it’s now over 100 years and yet we the Afrikan workers are still yoked to the same forces that forced Twala to sound these words of protest.

Experience should be teaching us that our salvation does not lie at the factory door but it lies in parliament. Experience should be teaching us that our salvation does not lie at the tripartite negotiating table but lies in the August house that fashion the laws.

We desperately need laws that are pro poor at the same time protecting the interests of the worker. The case of the Zimbabwean worker today is a sad story which has seen over 80% of the working class living below the living wage or the poverty datum line.

The remainder of Zimbabwean workers have been forced to seek economic refugee in foreign lands where they not only sell their labour cheaply but work under conditions which can be referred to as modern day slavery.

These gallant sons and daughters of the Zimbabwean soil are riling under xenophobic attacks in countries like South Afrika and Botswana. To make matters worse the agents of imperialism stripped Zimbabwe of its national dignity by taking away its investment power the Zimbabwean dollar.

Without a local currency Zimbabwe is not able to create meaningful wealth to cause economic growth. In the year 1999 we the workers formed what we thought was a workers’ party to try to avert a looming economic crisis.

Unfortunately the neo-colonialists saw through our vision and sneaked into our ranks and again diverted our revolutionary efforts. Instead of championing the cause of the citizens the party worked hard to advance the interests of our former colonisers until it split several times because of power struggles.

This has been evidenced by its call for the imposition of sanctions on our motherland and the creation of an atmosphere of political intolerance and hate. It is also sad to realise that despite having given birth to the party we, the workers and citizens no longer have a voice in the movement.

We the workers and disadvantaged groups of Zimbabwe also realise the spirit of Pan Afrikanism which fueled the revolutions for political emancipation resulting the formation of the Organization of Afrikan Union has died.

We therefore take it upon ourselves to work starting in Zimbabwe to rekindle this flame and push fellow workers throughout Afrika to redirect the Afrikan effort towards getting Afrika take her seat at the table of continents on an equal footing.

In doing so we want to go into the world wielding our formidable resource and labour power which for years has been used to develop Europe and the United States of America. It’s no robbery for Afrikan labourers to demand the humane treatment of the Afrikan and the refusal by Afrika to be referred to as a third world.

We have developed cultural values and technologies which have contributed immensely to the modernization of the world and demand fair treatment. As such LEAD will be advocating for reparations from Britain and other countries that benefited with our mineral resources and cheap labour during the colonial era.

We implore government to give priority to find lasting solutions to the plight of all civil servants, war veterans and workers in Zimbabwe. The government is on record stating that “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo” which we agree to and also add that “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo vakaguta, vanezvikwanisiro zvakakwana.”

In the spirit of “Leaving no one behind” which was this years National Independence theme, we humbly request the President of Zimbabwe Cde ED Mnangagwa not to leave the worker’s behind as they are the key enablers of inclusive economic growth and achievement of NDS 1. A demotivated worker is unproductive.

We demand decent salaries for all workers and safe working conditions. To redirect our efforts to achieve full economic potential with a generational mandate we have decided to regroup under a new banner. In a show of resilience we are reorganized ourselves as Labour, Economists Afrikan Democrats (LEAD).

In this renewed existence we are applying all our efforts towards reclaiming the worker’s revolution for all Zimbabweans. • Experience has taught us that the issue is not about salaries. •

Experience has taught us that the issue is note about the cost of living. • Experience has taught us that it’s not about prizes of goods. • Experiences has taught us that it’s all about governance.

As long as we the workers are not in government nothing will change. We will not stop until all the means of productions are in the hands of a worker’s government. We will not stop until we have taken over government.

We will not stop until we have created a social democratic society directed by a workers’ government it’s time to LEAD!!!!

Together we can achieve labour reforms united in our diversity.

Gono Resurfaces

By- The former Reserve Bank Governor Gideon Gono has resurfaced, this time as an investor.

Gono had his series of multi-million-dollar tourism projects for the northern shores of Mutirikwi Dam in Masvingo approved by the government.

The Mirror has a copy of a letter dated February 19, 2021, written to Gono by Jorum Gumbo who is the Minister for Presidential Affairs and Monitoring Implementation of Government Programmes confirming the approvals.
One of the projects is a high end restaurant sitting on a rotating floor built at the highest peak of the park and giving guests 360-degree experience. The other is a top notch golf course.
The projects are to be undertaken by a company called Simply Wild in which Gono, Emmanuel Runganga Gumbo and Clifton Marcus Reed Sparrow are shareholders. Simply Wild holds a 400-hecatre piece of land at the dam where it keeps 10 lions.
Gono was invited into the company as a shareholder by Gumbo and Sparrow in 2021 and according to Gumbo; Gono has already injected US$400 000 into the project.
The proposed mega-projects are however, already blighted by the poor running of the place that has seen 21 workers going on strike complaining that they have not been paid salaries since Gono came in 2021.
The lions are also said to be getting emaciated because they are not having meat and water regularly.
Gumbo is the Zimbabwean Ambassador to Sudan and Sparrow was the original owner of Simply Wild until he ran to South Africa after his conservancies including one of the biggest in Masvingo were compulsorily taken over by Government at the height of the land reform programme in 2008.
Efforts to get a comment from Sparrow and Gono were futile but Gumbo confirmed the developments. Gumbo said Zimbabweans should look forward to massive transformation of the dam environs through mega projects by Simply Wild. He hailed Gono as a big financier.
Simply Wild’s project proposal in the hands of The Mirror shows that the company plans a 3 – 7 star holiday resort with a top notch golf course, the High-end-restaurant, Luxury cruises will also be introduced. Tree chalets, fishing and hunting are the other attractions.
“Pursuant to your meeting with His Excellency the President on February 3, 2021, I am pleased to inform you that his Excellency approved all the projects. I proceeded to write to the individual Ministers under whose jurisdiction the different projects reside. I also had telephonic conversations with each of the Ministers regarding the urgency of the same,” reads Gumbo’s letter.
Elasto Mapanzure, a worker at Simply Wild said workers are wallowing in poverty without salaries. He said that there appear to be a lot of misuse of money by managers and pointed out the current manager Levison Phikelele as a culprit. We want Gono to come and address workers,” said one worker.
Phikelele however, insisted that he fired Mapanzure and wanted him out of the company premises. He said most of the people who claimed to be on strike were not workers but prostitutes and criminals including murderers wanted by Police who are staying at Simply Wild. He said that the company now only had three workers.
Gumbo said he was extremely worried by the said situation of workers and said is not be on the shareholders but Phikelele who is the manager on the ground.
He also bemoaned the statement by his manager that there were criminals staying at Simply Wild.
“I will not react to utterances allegedly made by Phikelele that Simply Wild is harbouring murderers and prostitutes. I am a law abiding Zimbabwean so are the other two directors. There is no way murderers would roam free on our property.
“About Simply Wild allegedly having only three workers at the present moment, I can tell you that I am not aware about that. What I know is that our operations at Simply Wild cannot be undertaken by three workers alone,” said Gumbo.

Chin’ono Raises Alarm Over Zanu PF Goats Raid Threats

By- Journalist and social justice rights lobby activist, Hopewell Chin’ono has approached the police seeking to stop a Zanu PF youth league member from invading his rural plot to “steal” his goats in Murewa today.

In a letter addressed to the Officer in Charge Highlands Police and copied to the Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga and Officer in Charge Law and Order Section, Chin’ono lawyers, Mtetwa and Nyambirai Legal Practitioners said Taurai Kandishaya’s plot was criminal.

“We request that you liaise with your colleagues at Murewa Police Station to secure our client’s rural home in order to protect members of his family, employees, and all his property.
“It is our view that the police are obliged to take all steps necessary to avoid possible breaches of the peace, which may lead to loss of life and property,” the lawyers said.
“As some of the police’s functions in terms of the constitution of Zimbabwe include preventing crime in addition to protecting and securing lives and property and maintaining law and order, we request that these functions be carried out without delay as the threatened invasion is imminent and requires immediate preventative measures.”
Kandishaya threatened to seize Chin’ono’s goats in a series of posts on Twitter.
In one of the tweets he said: “I noticed Hopewell has sent (sic) my pictures standing with the President ED (Emmerson Mnangagwa).
“Just like his pictures with (Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson) Chamisa.
“Stealing goats has nothing to do with the president.
“We are coming for the goats and we are unstoppable.
Chin’ono we are coming, don’t worry. You got the goats from the government as a pass-on project.
“Your stand was even extended by the government to accommodate more goats. We have evidence.”
Chin’ono, an anti-corruption campaigner, has been arrested for supporting anti-government protests and exposing wrongdoing.
His troubles began after he used social media to expose allegedly corrupt coronavirus-related contracts for the US$60 million acquisition of protective equipment for healthcare workers. Standard

“Ritual” Burial For Mutare Mbinga

By-The late Mutare-based socialite Obert Karombe‘s burial has sparked controversy after it emerged that he was buried at night.

Many were left wondering what could have caused his family to bury him ‘late’ using torches with some concluding that there might be ‘black magic’ involved.

However, Obert Karombe’s family is yet to issue a statement on the issue.

Some said, traditionally, Kings were the ones who were buried at night, not common souls.

Obert Karombe died in a car accident whilst travelling with his girlfriend last weekend.

His girlfriend who uses the name @mamagirl_aley on Instagram survived the crash but is reported to be suffering from a broken spine.

Following his death, some people sympathised with him while others suggested he used black magic.

To support the black magic argument, some used a story reported by H-Metro reported that two years ago in which a bolt of lightning struck his cattle, at his Beatrice farm, killing 15 beasts.

The incident happened at 4 pm.

Karombe is said to have disposed of the beasts by burying them.

Meanwhile, Christ Redemption Ministries International pastor Prophet Mellontik Orasi has claimed that he had seen Karombe’s death and warned him but the Mutare-based socialite ignored and mocked him saying he hangs out with real prophets.

Zanu PF Indoctrinates Civil Servants

By- Zanu PF is forcing top civil servants to undergo indoctrination lessons at its school of ideology.

The training will be cascaded to the rank and file of the public service.

The Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology which exhibited under the Zanu PF stand at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) was first mooted after the country gained Independence from British colonial rule in 1980.
A push to operationalise the college gathered momentum in 2016 to allegedly instil a sense of patriotism and understanding of Zanu PF’s ideology by civil servants and others, who did not participate in the liberation struggle.
In 2016, a resolution was passed by Zanu PF that no candidate would represent the party in national elections without passing through the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology.
This publication gathered that top civil servants, including directors in ministries have undergone the indoctrination lessons modelled under the controversial national youth service, the difference being that there is no “military-type” training.
“It’s on course (training of civil servants at the school of ideology).
“Currently, directors in ministries have gone through that already,” a Cabinet minister confirmed yesterday.
Chitepo was chairperson of the war council of Zanu during the liberation war.
He was assassinated on March 18, 1975 in Lusaka in a car bomb and the mystery surrounding his death remains unresolved.
Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa was not available for comment while her deputy Kindness Paradza referred The Standard to Zanu PF for official comment.
Zanu PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu referred The Standard to the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology principal Munyaradzi Machacha, who confirmed the indoctrination lessons.
“It’s basic orientation for about five days although we have other customised courses for different groups and institutions to address their specific needs,” Machacha said.
“We have done the basic orientation courses in ministries, parastatals and in the Zanu PF structures.”
Machacha went on to say opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members, including their leader Nelson Chamisa must undergo the indoctrination lessons to inculcate a culture of patriotism in them.
“The school is really a national heritage school where we treat every citizen equally regardless of political affiliation,” he said.
“If Chamisa were to come, we would put him through the same course to teach him patriotism and national conscience and to defend Zimbabwe’s national interest, which is lacking in our opposition who hero-worship our colonial masters and want the same to come and superintend over us.
“We wish every citizen to come and join this course and have a national belief system that makes us all unite in defence of our national interest.”
Machacha denied charges that the courses were partisan, in favour of the ruling party.
“Chitepo is not a party institution, but a national heritage school detached from the ruling party,” he said.
However, unions representing civil servants on Friday condemned the indoctrination lessons as unconstitutional and partisan.
“It is very unfortunate that the Zanu PF government continues to manipulate our civil servants, forcing them to participate in training that is clearly partisan.
“We condemn such acts, which really violate the constitution of our people and the fundamental rights of the civil servants,” Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) president Obert Masaraure said.
“We still have an inherent right of freedom of association and assembly. We can’t be forcing people to associate with the ruling party against their will.
“If we force them to be partisan, we are then dividing an already divided nation.”
Progressive Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe president Takavafira Zhou weighed in, saying there is nothing national about the Chitepo School of Ideology.
“It is a Zanu PF ideological college and not at all national. Anything that is partisan must be resisted by all level-headed Zimbabweans, and as teachers and civil servants, we don’t see any need to be affiliated to any political party,” Zhou said.
“The whole aspect of trying to send civil servants to an ideological college is the issue of propaganda, propagating propaganda so that civil servants parrot a political party propaganda.
“That in itself is not enviable, and we will resist that by all means necessary.”
In October 2021, the government attracted criticism from unions representing nurses after proposing to introduce patriotism and induction modules for health workers.
The proposed modules were meant to cover public health service orientation, which speaks to national heritage and patriotism among others.
In the recent past, there were plans to have civil service jobs reserved for youths who went through the notorious Border Gezi national youth service (NYS).
The NYS programme, launched by the late Youth minister Border Gezi in 2001, was introduced with the aim of drilling revolutionary and patriotic ideologies into the country’s young citizens. Standard

Stolen Car Crashes Into live Electricity Transformer

By-A 21-year-old man from Bulawayo’s Luveve suburb was arrested by the police and charged with negligent driving after he rammed into an electricity pole and damaged a transformer.

Luveve suburb was plunged into darkness after the transformer was severely damaged so much that it has to be replaced.

The man, Ngqabutho Sibanda, who was on a joyride, is yet to provide the police with his driver’s licence.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident. He said:

We confirm that accident, what we know is that it was a sole part, Ngqabutho Sibanda aged 21 years who is yet to produce a driver’s license.

Insp Ncube said Sibanda was driving along an unknown road in Old Luveve when he lost control of the vehicle and hit a transformer.

The three passengers were injured and taken to Mpilo Central Hospital for treatment.

Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) Acting Western Region General Manager Lloyd Jaji said affected residents will be without power for some time. He said:

The structure was totally damaged so we have to supply a new structure.

It is difficult to tell when people will have electricity because we will have to buy material because we did not have the material in stock so we have to get material first and install it, it’s like we are starting from scratch.

Boris Rubbishes Mnangagwa Commonwealth Readmission Plea

By- British parliament has said that Zimbabwe does not qualify to be readmitted into the Commonwealth.

Speaking in the House of Lords on Tuesday, Minister of State for the Pacific and the International Environment, Frank Zacharias Robin Goldsmith said Zimbabwe should first respect the rule of law and human rights for UK sanctions to be lifted and to be readmitted to the Commonwealth. Said, Goldsmith:

Indeed, respect for democratic principles, alongside human rights, the rule of law and civil society space, is central to Zimbabwe’s stated desire to see the UK sanctions regime lifted and to rejoin the Commonwealth.

As noble Lords are aware, the decision about whether Zimbabwe rejoins the Commonwealth is for all Commonwealth members.

In due course, we would, of course, like nothing more than to see Zimbabwe rejoin.

However, Zimbabwe cannot yet credibly be said to meet the principles set out in the Commonwealth Charter.

The Commonwealth is an association of 54 countries, most of which are former British colonies.

Zimbabwe withdrew from the Commonwealth in 2003 after the organisation refused to lift the southern African country’s suspension.

Zimbabwe had been suspended in 2002 on allegations of contravening the basic principles of the Commonwealth, as outlined in the Harare Declaration, issued at the 1991 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held in Harare.

LEAKED AUDIO: Mnangagwa Demands USD20 Million Bribe From Food-Aid-Donors To Qualify to Feed Hungry Zimbabweans

By Own Correspondent| ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa demanded a bribe of USD20 million for food aid to be released to his own people, a top ZANU PF senior Simbarashe Marumahomo alleges in an audio leaked in October 2019.

The allegations which have remained unchallenged for over 2 years, are contained in the audio Marumahoko is heard screaming in anger. Says Marumahoko in the clip:

“Mnangagwa sold the country. What kind of the president is that? Dont talk fuc**ll about Mnangagwa he is an idiot. He is not ZANU PF, Our musangano (party) of ZANU PF has collapsed because of him.”

Another unnamed man is then heard in the background as Marumahoko tells him to go ahead to record the allegations.

He continues charging:

“Record this I don’t care. I am Simbarashe Marumahoko. I don’t care about this. I am Simbarashe Marumahoko. Imagine a person who demands 20 million bribe in order to allow his own children to access food aid. What kind of an idiot are you when you even call yourself a president?,” he asks.

Nearly 3 years later, Mnangagwa’s spokesperson George Charamba is still to respond to the damning allegations .

Long Wait… Census Results In 3 Months’ Time

THE Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (Zimstat) says it will release findings from the 2022 Zimbabwe Population and Housing Census that ended yesterday in three months’ time.
However, a mop-up exercise will run for another week to cater for those who may have been omitted in the initial count.

The census started on April 21.

Speaking to The Sunday Mail last night, Zimstat spokesperson Ms Mercy Chidemo said the three months is for analysing the data which was gathered by enumerators across the country.

“We expect results to be ready in three months’ time. We have a data quality management team which has been working on cleaning the data that was being synced to the server.

“We are having a mop-up exercise from May 1 -5, 2022 for those who were not found at home by enumerators,” Ms Chidemo said.

This year’s census was paperless, as enumerators used tablets to capture the data.

The new technology facilitates logic checks, validations during the interview, skip patterns, and makes the census more efficient in assuring high quality data enters the server without mistakes.

For the first time since 1901 when the first ever census was conducted, Zimstat introduced a dashboard that monitors the enumeration process and events on the field in real time.

In Zimbabwe, a census is conducted every 10 years and it informs how policies are crafted.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) completed the second phase of its Mobile Voter Registration blitz yesterday.

In a statement, ZEC chief elections officer Mr Utoile Silaigwana said those who want to register to vote should visit their offices in different districts across the country.

“…the commission’s 63 districts and 10 provincial offices will remain open during normal working hours for purposes of continuous voter registration in terms of 17A of the Electoral Act,” he said. -Sunday Mail

Woman Caught On Camera Abusing Boss’ Son

A Bulawayo woman who was employed as a maid has been arrested for sexually abusing her employer’s three-year-old son.

CCTV

The incident came to the fore when the toddler told his father that he was forced to fondle the maid’s breast prompting the father to check through a video of the close circuit television (CCTV) that he installed at his Montrose suburb house.

The maid, child and the parents cannot be named to protect the identity of the minor.

Last week, the maid appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Nomagugu Maphosa to answer to charges of child abuse.

She was remanded out of custody to tomorrow for trial.

Prosecuting, Mr Owen Mugari told the court that on 25 March the maid allegedly made the boy to fondle her breast when his parents were away.

When the father came back from work around 6pm, the court heard, the maid and the toddler opened the gate for him.

The child jumped into the car and as the father was driving to park the car, he generally asked his son how his day was and that is when the kid told him that he was “playing with the accused breast during the day and it was fun”.

The father then proceeded into the house and checked what was happening during the day by playing the videos in his phone which is connected to the CCTV system of the house and that is when he discovered that indeed the maid had been making his son to fondle her breast and even went on to remove her bra.

“I do not agree to the charges levelled against me, the child came to me playing, fondling my breast and I did not turn him away because I thought it was normal behaviour for kids when playing,” she said. –Chronicle

Prerequisites of A Developing Country’s Economy

By Pepukai Begede | Author of Economic Evolution of Communities.

*The prerequisites of a Developing Country – Financial Intelligence or Basic Economics intelligence.

Intelligence is a necessary ingredient for every Citizen of a given country. It is unfortunate that most people think intelligence is for the elite class who are academically gifted. The difference between seeing things through ignorance and intelligence defines the socio-economic interpretation of activities in a nation.

Mainly because individuals want to be financially stable, life coaches and motivational speakers spend abundant time educating people on financial intelligence which merely benefit a small section of the society. The impact of financial intelligence in a developing country is weaker because it mostly impacts those in cities which is a small scale in terms of rating.

Basic Economics intelligence is freedom to the poor. Poor countries are usually characterised with high inflation and unemployment. These two in my opinion are a result of lack of basic knowledge in economics fundamentals. Generally in poor communities the uneducated think that “increasing prices is making profit” and “becoming vendors is entrepreneurship”

This is a serious mistake and misunderstanding which can only be corrected by learning basic economics. Failure to give the Youth this information is killing the future of developing countries.

# basic economics learning should be compulsory in schools!

Dollarize To Do Away With Market Distortions

Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa has urged government to dollarise and do away with market distortions that are threatening to collapse the economy.

Posting on Twitter Friday morning, Chamisa said the economic problems currently facing the country were a result of bad leadership and poor governance by the ruling Zanu PF government.

“The economy is tanking and Zimbabweans are suffering at the hands of bad leadership, poor governance and porous economic policies. As the alternative government, we propose the following to be considered and adopted:”There is a crisis of confidence in the market, citizens are suffering from the price hikes and deepening poverty level. All government policies must be demand driven, inclusive &fully consultative. The recent attack on CZI position paper by Government is regrettable and must never be tolerated,” said Chamisa.

He urged the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe to stop the foreign currency auction system and adopt the United States dollars as the sole currency while working on a roadmap towards future de-dollarisation.

“Stop the auction system and go for full dollarisation – this will immediately remove distortions, multiple pricing, arbitrage, secure stability and save exporting companies from imminent collapse and help all businesses and economic agents to preserve capital.

“In line with (3), we should immediately work on a de-dollarisation road map which is inclusive and evidence based and build on consensus as opposed to command economics and threatening businesses with statutory instruments,” added Chamisa.

The former MDC Alliance leader also called for an end to corruption, saying the country was losing US$2,8 billion dollars through illicit financial flows and graft within state enterprises.

“Stop corruption and save US$2.8bn,being the US$1.8bn through illicit financial flows and US $1bn wasted in state owned enterprises and line ministries). This money, if saved, is a real game changer. Greedy, indiscipline and corruption stand as the biggest threat to the economy!

“We must embrace a genuine social contract, which is inclusive to move forward as a nation. Also Expedite a Pre-Election Pact on elections & reforms, constitutionalism and respect of human rights so we restore our integrity in the family of nations. Genuine dialogue is key,” said Chamisa.

Zimbabweans Suffering Because Of Bad Leadership

Tinashe Sambiri|There is no doubt that the poor state of the country’s economy is a direct result of bad governance, Citizens’ Coalition For Change leader President Nelson Chamisa has said.

President Chamisa described Mr Mnangagwa’s economic policies as porous and inconsistent.

Zanu PF Hooligans Threaten To Seize Hopewell Chin’ono Goats

By A Correspondent

Tough-talking Citizens’ Coalition For Change vice chairperson Hon Job Sikhala has blasted Mr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s Zanu PF party for terrorising prominent journalist Hopewell Chin’ono.

A charged Sikhala described Zanu PF as a “party of dogs and reptiles.”

Bill Antonio Hails Own Performance

Dynamos winger Bill Antonio says sometimes he still pinches himself to make sure the reality that he plays for the Glamour Boys is not just a dream.

The 18-year’s rise to stardom in the blue half of the capital has been remarkable — from being just a Prince Edward School pupil, to one of the best players not only at DeMbare, but in the Premier Soccer League, within a very short period of time.

What Are Noncommunicable Diseases?

WHO welcomes the establishment of a new Heads of State and Government Group to accelerate progress towards the SDG target for noncommunicable diseases ̶ a one-third reduction in “premature” deaths from diseases like diabetes, cancer, heart and lung disease and the promotion of mental health and well-being.

The decision was taken at the inaugural International Strategic Dialogue on Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) and the Sustainable Development Goals, held today in Accra, Ghana, where a new Global Compact on NCDs was launched. The dialogue was co-hosted by WHO, together with the Governments of Ghana and Norway.

Heads of State highlighted the urgency of the NCD pandemic, which kills 7 out of 10 people globally from risk factors like tobacco, alcohol, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, and air pollution.

NCDs are largely preventable and treatable, nearly 7 million lives could be saved for just US$ 0.84 per person per year from now until 2030. This investment would realize more than US$ 230 billion in economic and societal benefits and avert nearly 10 million heart attacks and strokes globally by 2030.

The Heads of States and Governments Group announced that it will gather countries championing the NCD agenda and will convene annually at the UN General Assembly. The first meeting is expected to take place in September 2022.

The NCD Compact will focus on five key areas of commitment:

saving, by 2030, the lives of 50 million people from dying prematurely of NCDs by implementing the most cost-effective measures to prevent and control NCDs;
protecting 1.7 billion people living with NCDs by ensuring that they have access to the medicines and care they need during humanitarian emergencies;
integrating NCDs within primary health care and universal health coverage;
comprehensive NCD surveillance and monitoring; and
meaningfully engaging 1.7 billion people living with NCDs and mental health conditions in policy-making and programming.
The economic, as well as the health, benefits of investing in NCDs was a clear theme at the Dialogue. Norway has been a frontrunner in investment in the fight against NCDs, investing internationally, becoming the first donor country to include NCDs in its international development strategy.

Mr Nana Addo Dankwa Afuko-Addo, President of Ghana, outlined the successes of Ghana in implementing tobacco demand-reduction measures and introducing guidelines for NCD management, but also highlighted the challenges for lower-income countries in accelerating action.

Statements from the meeting:

Mr Nana Addo Dankwa Afuko-Addo, President of Ghana:

“Tacking the phenomenon of NCDs requires leadership to provide visibility to NCD issues. I ask my Heads of State colleagues to join hands with me as we establish a Presidential Group (non-binding), and as we find solutions to NCDs with a roadmap of universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals. In our time, this will be our legacy”.

Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization:

“Apart from the lives they take, NCDs take a heavy toll on economies, cutting down people in their most productive years. Overcoming this challenge requires technical, financial, and above all, political commitment. I thank the Governments of Norway and Ghana for establishing the first Global Heads of State and Government Group on NCDs, and launching the Global NCD Compact 2020-2030.”

Mr Jonas Gahr Støre, Prime Minister of Norway:

“Investing in stronger health systems, service delivery and the prevention of NCDs will make vulnerable populations more resilient to COVID-19 and future pandemics. This is also vital for promoting universal health coverage. NCD prevention, and access to treatment and medicine must be a core component in the efforts to enhance pandemic preparedness and response, and in building back better in the post-pandemic recovery.”

Dr Matshidiso Moeti, WHO Regional Director for Africa:

“Noncommunicable diseases account for nearly a third of deaths in Africa, where they not only pose a grave threat to health and well-being, but also blunt socioeconomic development. The commitment reached today marks a crucial step in speeding up the progress against these diseases and their risk factors as well as the suffering and deaths they cause.

ED Tears Into Gvt Saboteurs

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has accused business of sabotaging his government.

Officially opening the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo, Mnangagwa said: “We must practise honest and ethical business practices. Businesses cannot purport to support the government by day and sabotage the same government by night and then after play the victim. It is imperative for us all to make strategic choices for the best interests of our country.”

Businesses have been increasing prices of goods and services as well as selling goods exclusively in US dollars, citing rising inflation to hedge against losses and the cost of hard currency on the black market.

Prices of basic goods and commodities have spiralled this month, with bread now costing $480 per loaf and a 10kg bag of mealie-meal going for $1 300.

Inflation on Tuesday also spiked upwards to 96,4% up from 72,1% in March, raising fears of a possible return to hyperinflation.

But Mnangagwa said he was optimistic that the economy would turn around, despite analysts predicting gloom ahead.

Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe exports, at about US$10 billion last year, showed that his government was making strides in transforming the economy.

“Zimbabwe’s economy has moved from stabilisation to growth, hence industry must accordingly go beyond merely staying afloat,” he said.

“All sectors are, therefore, challenged to adopt entirely new business structures anchored on innovation strategy for the long-term benefit of our economy and higher quality life of our people.”

He also said the National Development Strategy 1 was registering notable results, with the economy growing last year by 7% and is expected to grow 5,5% this year.

“Equally, we have to manage risks, reduce costs and improve efficiencies and overall competitiveness. Products and services of industry must continuously address the needs of our people and our economy,” Mnangagwa said.

VP Chiwenga In Nairobi For Former Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki Funeral

By A Correspondent- Vice President Constantino Chiwenga yesterday joined several African Heads of State and government in paying last respects to former Kenyan President Emilio Mwai Kibaki during a State funeral.

The State funeral, which was attended by thousands of people, was held at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.

Leaders who attended included South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa, South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Tanzania Vice President Philip Isdor Mpango.

President Kibaki died last week at the age of 90.

He became Kenya’s third president after his election in 2002 and led the East African country until 2013.

In his tribute, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday said former President Kibaki was “one of the greatest African statesmen of his generation”.

He added that President Kibaki was a man of few words but of “decisive action.”

Ethiopia President Sahle-Work Zewde described President Kibaki was a true friend of her country before and after his ascension to Kenyan presidency.

In his prepared speech, VP Chiwenga said Zimbabwe was overwhelmed by the “sudden news” of President Kibaki’s death because “we had watched with deep admiration his sterling contribution to the nation building of Kenya”.

In an interview later on, VP Chiwenga said Zimbabwe and Kenya have “close relations which date back to many years ago”.

“After our independence, we kept our relationship and we immediately opened an embassy here and Kenya opened an embassy (in Zimbabwe).

“What is more important is that we now have a Commission (Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation) between the two countries which led to the signing of seven MoUs (memoranda of understanding) when the President came.

“Three were supposed to be signed if this (death of President Kibaki) had not happened, if President Kenyatta had managed to come to Zimbabwe.

“So there is an economic relationship which has developed between our two countries,” said VP Chiwenga.

President Mnangagwa recently visited Kenya on a three-day State visit to attend the Zimbabwe-Kenya JPCC, which seeks to enhance collaboration in various fields between the two countries.

ZIMSTATS Applies For 5 Day Census Extension

The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (Zimstat) has applied for an extension of the 2022 national housing and population census by five more days to enable the enumeration of those who have not yet been counted.

Zimstat Director-General Taguma Mahonde said that the extension of the census period will enable Zimstat to count everyone in order to have accurate data. Said Mahonde:

The enumeration exercise has been going on well with the exercise having been made easier by the use of technology. The process is now simple.

We appreciate that there are people who have not yet been enumerated because of various reasons and we have applied for an extension of the enumeration exercise which is our mopping-up phase so that everyone gets a chance to be counted for us to have accurate data.

On the issue of “weird” questions that are being asked by enumerators, Mahonde said the questions are relevant to the planning and development of the nation. He said:

We are always guided by the United Nations in our line of questioning and this year they wanted us to concentrate more on housing issues, that is why we had questions that had something to do with houses.

All questions asked were relevant to the planning and development of the nation.

The census was supposed to end on Saturday, 30 April, but there are pockets of households across the country that are yet to be counted.

The preliminary report of the census is expected to be out in the next three months with the final report expected to be out in six months’ time.

After Zimstat tables the final census report, electoral boundaries will be redrawn ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Chamisa’s Pre-Elections Pact On Reforms Is A Pseudo Pre-marital Power Sharing Agreement- No Reforms Will Be Implemented

By Wilbert Mukori= If I was in a position to do so, I would make reading George Orwell’s book, Animal Farm compulsory reading for all Zimbabwe for two reasons:

  1. The book is an allegorised allusion to the betrayal of the Russian Revolution by Joseph Stalin and his acolytes. The are many parallel with the betrayal of the Zimbabwe Revolution by Mugabe et al or be it the later is a hell lot more chaotic.
  • By making it compulsory reading one hopes the nation will finally learn why we are in this seemingly intractable mess of our own making.

I would go one step further and pay commission to sequel to the book in which the Boxer, the horse, supported by the sheep try to take over the farm from the pigs; which is where we are in our political history in Zimbabwe.

To those who have not read Animal Farm, Boxer took as much time to learn the five letters of the alphabet as the average animal took to learn the whole alphabet. It took him just as long to learn the next five letters and by that time he had forgotten the first five letters. The sheep are even worse than Boxer; they only thing they mastered was slogans which they would repeat without knowing what they meant!

Chamisa and his MDC cum CCC friends are Boxer and the wildebeest CCC herd are the sheep.

The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect MDC into power for the express purpose the party would implement the democratic changes necessary to end the Zanu PF dictatorship. After 22 years, 5 of which in the 2008 to 2013 GNU, MDC has failed to implement even one token reform. Not even one!

There is evidence to suggest MDC leaders failed to implement the reforms because they are corrupt. Yes, Mugabe did bribe them with the trappings of high office and with their snouts in the feeding trough they forgot about the reforms.

Still, it would be rich to believe every one of 110 MDC MPs, 40 Senators, 30 Ministers and deputy Ministers, 2 Deputy PM and the PM Tsvangirai himself were duped for five years of the GNU. The truth is the MDC leaders were and are to this day not just greedy but worst of all they are breathtakingly incompetent. Like it or not MDC leaders have failed to implement even one reform because they have never understood what the reforms are much less how they were to be implemented.

The MDC supporters, the sheep, have repeated the “Change! Chinja!” slogans and the party has returner change its name even after rebranding but they too have no clue what the changes are. And so when MDC sold out during the GNU by failing to implement even one reform the followers were none the wiser and so never took the leaders to task.

Many people have advised MDC leaders on the folly of participating in the elections without first implementing the democratic reforms they did not listen just as they did not listen when advised to implement reforms. And so the nation has been dragged into one meaningless elections after another only to give Zanu PF legitimacy.

Right now Chamisa et al are hell bent on participating in the 2023 elections knowing fully well Zanu PF is set to rig them and that, by participating, CCC will, once again, give Zanu PF legitimacy. It really is a political nightmare!

“The CCC BY-ELECTIONS LANDSLIDE VICTORY has put the world on notice that CCC is the next government in ZIMBABWE. On this, Zanu PF is panicking and cowardly disrupting our Citizens dialogue Assemblies,” Chamisa posted on twitter.

“The road to 2023 must be signposted by Pre-Election Pact on Reforms (PREPARE).”

“It’s about 60 weeks to the 2023 general election. Any dialogue must be about reforms & the road to 2023 not a GNU. As Zimbabweans, we must find each other to avoid a yet another disputed election and all it’s undesired consequences. We need a Pre-Elections Pact on Reforms (PREPARE).

“Whoever Wins an undisputed mandate in 2023 must then unite the nation, a credible inclusive Team ZIMBABWE and deliver prosperity and happiness. The next 5 years must be about nation building-transforming and developing our economy not just politics and unseemly politicking.”

There will be no meaningful reforms implemented before the 2023 election even if Zanu PF was arm-twisted to do it; with 60 weeks to go, there is no time. Chamisa knows that. And so Zanu PF will blatantly rig the 2023 elections just as it has done in the other elections in past. Chamisa and company know that too!

Still CCC will participate in these flawed elections flawed elections because they also know that Zanu PF will be giving away a few gravy train seats to entice the opposition to participate. Zanu PF needs the opposition to participate to give the flawed process some modicum of credibility and legitimacy. Chamisa et al are participating out of greed, pure and simple; they are after the few gravy train seats on offer.

As the main opposition party in the 2018 elections, Chamisa felt he and his MDC A friends were entitled for more than just the few gravy train seats they had won. Mnangagwa rebuffed his demands. Once beaten twice shy! This pre-election pact is Chamisa asking Mnangagwa to agree to appoint some CCC leaders into cabinet or agree to paying them as shadow ministers.

Mnangagwa would happily agree to this pseudo pre-marital agreement was if Chamisa dropped all this talk of reforms. Mnangagwa created the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) for the sole purpose of rewarding all the opposition presidential candidates in the 2018 and would have no problem paying a bit more to rewarding Chamisa and company.

However, to get the POLAD benefits the members had to publicly endorse the elections were free and fair and Mnangagwa was the legitimate winner. Chamisa must endorse the elections are free and fair and thus rule out the need for reforms.

The claim that this “Team Zimbabwe” will transform and develop the country is just wishful thinking. Everyone will know that Zanu PF will be calling the shots and, worst of all, the country will revert to its present status of a pariah state with the Zanu PF dictatorship back in power at the end of the day.

SADC proposed the 2008 Global Political Agreement forcing Zanu PF to agree to the implementation of the democratic reforms. And so, the 2008 to 2013 GNU had chance of transforming the country if the reforms were implemented. The inclusive government Chamisa is calling for is nothing but a variation of the existing POLAD, no meaningful reforms will be implemented because Zanu PF, the principal player, insists the elections are free, fair and credible.

A revolution once betrayed develops its own inbuilt mechanism of self-perpetuating. Russia is stuck with the Stalin style corrupt and tyrannical totalitarian dictatorship. Likewise, Zimbabwe is stuck with the Zanu PF corrupt, chaotic and tyrannical dictatorship. Chamisa and his MDC/CCC friends are so corrupt and incompetent, they will never change anything, they are just Zanu PF acolytes in all but name.

Man Crashes Stolen Car, Plunges Suburb Into Darkness

By A Correspondent- A 21 year old man from Bulawayo’s Luveve suburb was arrested by the police and charged with negligent driving after he rammed into an electricity pole and damaged a transformer.

“Extend Voter Registration Blitz”: ZEC Urged

By A Correspondent- Civic Society Organisations (CSOs), political parties and political analysts have urged the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to extend the mobile voter registration beyond 30 April 2022 to enable more people to register as voters.

The mobile voter registration was being conducted at the same time as the Registrar General’s (RGs) mobile registration exercise which was issuing national identity documents (IDs) and birth certificates.

In an interview with NewsDay, Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) Bulawayo spokesperson Swithern Chirowodza said the twenty days for the voter registration blitz was not enough.

Ibhetshu likazulu secretary-general Mbuso Fuzwayo said the mobile voter registration exercise should be extended as few people are getting national identification cards. Said Fuzwayo:

The voter blitz must be extended. They must make sure people get documentation before those doing voter registration and the number of people getting identity documents in a day is far too little which shows that the government was not ready logistically.

A political analyst, Mkhululi Tshuma, said thousands of youths are yet to get IDs, therefore, the voter registration blitz should be extended to cater for them. Said Tshuma:

It’s wrong for voter registration to be closed. The first mobile registration closed when very few people had registered mainly due to the fact that many people had no identity documents.

On the eve of the second mobile registration, the registry office started issuing IDs which was commendable.

There are still challenges in the process as thousands of people, most of them youths, are yet to acquire national IDs.

There is no one denying the fact that the second mobile registration window attracted more registrants than the first.

But this still falls short of the mark as there still remain thousands more who are still unregistered.

All you need to do is follow the queues that are still forming in the mobile registration being done by the registry office.

These are all potential voters that must not be excluded as far as voter registration is concerned.

The allocated time wasn’t enough especially seeing that there have been many logistical challenges posed especially by lack of ID documents.

We can’t talk of the time allocated without noting logistical challenges that have severely affected the process.

Former MDC-T vice president Thokozani Khupe’s spokesperson, Ntando Ndlovu said ZEC should extend the exercise for maximum benefits. Said Ndlovu:

There is no doubt whatsoever that the exercise must be extended because the teams were not enough and therefore unable to cover all the wards.

In some cases, there was little information on mobile registration centres. What is needed now are permanent registration centres in each and every ward.

We have sampled various areas in Bulawayo and the two rural Matabeleland provinces; it’s clear that most unregistered voters failed to take advantage of the current exercise.

This was mainly due to a lack of identity documents and the unavailability of information on mobile registration centres.

The allocated time was not enough; there’s a need to establish permanent registration centres in each and every ward.

ZEC and other non-state actors must intensify voter education in all the villages and towns.

Meanwhile, ZEC Chief Elections Officer Utoile Silaigwana said that the mobile voter registration exercise ends today, 30 April 2022.

In a statement released on Saturday, 30 April 2022, Silaigwana said members of the public can still register as voters at ZEC’s district and provincial offices. =Newsday/CITE

“Zim Not Yet Ready To Re-join Commonwealth”: British MP

By A Correspondent- A British member of parliament recently said Zimbabwe is yet to meet certain conditions to be readmitted into the Commonwealth.

Zanu PF Thanks Epworth Voters With ZUPCO Buses?

By A Correspondent- The ruling ZANU PF party has been accused of diverting Zimbabwe United Passengers Company (ZUPCO) buses from urban constituencies where it lost to those constituencies where its candidates won in the recent by-elections.

This comes after newly-elected Epworth MP, Zalerah Makari (ZANU PF), revealed that her constituency received more buses after they made a request to authorities. She tweeted

There have been transport challenges in Epworth. We requested more buses in order to solve this and I’m glad that we were given more buses for Epworth

I will continue to represent the interest of the people of Epworth, affordable transport for our people!

Meanwhile, former Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), Peter Mutasa accused the ZANU PF-led Government of playing with people’s lives. Responding to Makari, Mutasa said:

lf these are not new buses as we see in the pictures, then it means they have been diverted from other suburbs.

Those suburbs are now worse than they were. It is now where ZANU PF won more buses and less where it lost.

Why does your government play politics with people’s lives?

Mutasa also bemoaned the ongoing transport challenges that are being experienced by commuters after the Government banned private transporters in 2020. Said Mutasa:

Whoever is benefiting through the ZUPCO monopoly doesn’t do this to citizens These are workers who work over 8 hours, some while standing

Then they come to stand again in the cold in the rain and in the sun for another 3 hours. Why?

Zimbabweans have been experiencing transport challenges since 2020 when the Government banned private buses and kombis and ordered them to join the ZUPCO franchise.

The banning of kombis resulted in the emergence of a thriving pirate taxi industry (mushikashika) but ZRP is now targetting the unlicensed taxi operators leaving commuters stranded

By A Correspondent- A Zanu PF youth activist allegedly linked to an assassination attempt on CCC leader Nelson Chamisa in Manicaland Province in 2021 is planning to contest for a top post at the upcoming ZANU PF National Youth League conference.

CCC, formerly MDC Alliance, claimed last year that Chamisa survived an assassination attempt in Mutare.

The opposition party said Chamisa and his entourage were intercepted on the outskirts of Mutare by armed ZANU PF youths who open fire on Chamisa’s vehicle.

Chamisa was on a tour of Manicaland province meeting with the party’s grassroots supporters.

He was coming from Birchenough Bridge and Chipinge headed for Mutare when the alleged incident occurrred.

“Zim Has 44% Electricity Penetration”: Energy Minister

By A Correspondent- Energy and Power Development Minister Zhemu Soda said it is embarrassing that only 20% and 40% of the country’s rural and urban areas have respectively been electrified.

Speaking in Harare on Thursday at an event where the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) availed US$1.5 million for Zimbabwe’s power generation, Soda said:

According to recent statistics, the country has an electricity penetration rate of 44%.

As a government, we are not proud of this figure considering that we have a large number of people, particularly in rural areas who lack access to modern energy services.

In fact, I am informed that electricity access levels in rural areas is 20% with the balance available to urbanites.

Although we have seen increased penetration of small ports solar systems, which l hope will be revealed in the census currently underway.

UNDP Zimbabwe resident representative Mia Seppo said that the US$1.5 million will be fully allocated before the end of this year. Said Sepo:

UNDP Zimbabwe is excited to have managed to mobilise a total of US$$1,5 million grant aimed at accelerating access to sustainable, affordable and clean energy in Zimbabwe.
This grant is earmarked to kick start and unlock further funding for the energy sector.

We are expected to fully allocate and utilise the funding before the end of the year 2022 to create an enabling environment for future investments.

Zimbabwe generates an average of 1 200 megawatts (MW) daily against a peak demand of 2 200MW and reduces the deficit with imports from South Africa, Zambia and Mozambique.-NewsDay

Government Rules Out Salary Increase For Teachers

By- The government said it was not going to review teachers’ salaries any time soon.

The government said it cannot raise teachers’ salaries each time schools open.

Public Service and Social Welfare Minister Paul Mavima on Friday, 29 April told NewsDay that teacher’s packages cannot be changed every time schools open and educators need to exercise patience while their grievances are addressed through dialogue. Said Mavima:

We just changed the package for teachers, and we cannot change that package each time schools open.

We are getting into the second quarter, and we need them to be patient and go through the negotiation process.

If there is any need for a review, it will be determined during the negotiation process.

We must also realise that there was something special that we did for teachers including the $20 000 per child school fees package, which will support up to three children in government institutions.

Mavima said the Government will facilitate the construction of decent accommodation for teachers at public schools. He said:

This will be institutional housing so that we don’t have problems and teachers have to be in very good decent housing.

We are undertaking that aggressive programme to provide housing for teachers.

Schools are scheduled to open for the second term on 3 May but teachers’ representatives have threatened not to report for duty saying they are financially incapacitated.

Teachers want the Government to revert to their pre-October 2018 salary of US$540 saying the US$175 they are currently getting is not sustainable.

By- Top Zimbabwean journalist and former Financial Gazette editor-in-chief Sunsleey Chamunorwa has died.

He died in Harare on Thursday night after suffering a combination of liver failure and stroke.
He was 55.
Chamunorwa, who was part of a trailblazing team when the Zimbabwe Independent was launched in 1996, was appointed Financial Gazette editor-in-chief in May 2003 until March 2007.
The fearless journalist was suspended over a story exposing a Zanu PF official’s involvement in security contracts at the Harare International Airport (now Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport).
Before his appointment, Chamunorwa was adviser to former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor Gideon Gono and public and investor relations executive at the CBZ Bank, where the ex-central bank chief was managing director and chief executive.

“As the media fraternity, we are saddened with the demise of one our own, who was one of the finest wordsmiths and illustrious editor and journalist in his own right,” he said.
“He was in the league of some of the most revered editors and journalists who have walked this land called Zimbabwe.”
Veteran journalist Cris Chinaka said: “Sunsley was a committed professional journalist who was conscious of his responsibility to the larger public, and saw his own role as a calling to public service. He was rarely satisfied and always thought journalists could do better.”

Outcry As HH Opens US Army Base In Zambia

By-Zambia President, Hakainde Hichilema has been criticised for opening the office of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) just as an opposition party said this is against the country’s longstanding neutral foreign policy position of non-alignment.

The New Heritage Party, an opposition in Zambia led by Chishala Kateka has condemned the move. In a statement issued on Friday, the party said:
The New Heritage Party wishes to place on record, its strong misgivings about the announcement by the American General Peter Bailey, that the American and the Zambian Governments have agreed to establish and Locate the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), which is the military command centre for the United States Government against its enemies on the African continent, in Zambia.
Should this project be implemented, it carries very serious national security implications for our country Zambia, including, but not limited to the fact that our country will be indirectly inheriting the enemies of the USA, and thereby making ourselves unwitting targets for terrorists and other such negative forces. This is against our long-standing neutral foreign policy position of non-alignment which has been premised on our being a truly independent sovereign state.
We would like to remind our fellow Zambians that both the AU, SADC and our previous Presidents have taken a negative view of this American initiative as not being entirely in the best interest of the continent, the region and the nation.
This then begs the following questions:
-Why has this ” deal” been struck by the UPND Alliance government barely 8 months in office?
-What are the Americans getting out of it
-But even more importantly, how does Zambia and Zambians benefit from this deal?
May we remind our fellow Zambians that it was the UPND in opposition that insisted that important national foreign policy matters such as contraction of foreign Debt could not be left to the executive alone, but that our sovereign parliament should scrutinize and approve all such undertakings by the government.
National security in our view is even more critical than debt contraction and should therefore be subject to a serious national discourse by the general public and parliament before a final decision can be reached.
Fellow Zambians, make no mistake, this is a very grave matter for our country. The UPND is trying to trade in Zambian lives, and as a serious party of patriots we cannot and will not allow this matter to pass unchallenged.
We therefore demand the following:

  1. That this AFRICOM office opening be put on hold immediately until the process of wide democratic consultations we have proposed above are exhausted
  2. That the government disclose the full status of this deal to the the Zambians for transparency
  3. Further, we call upon every Zambian to petition their area member of parliament to ensure that this matter is tabled as a matter of urgency at the next session of parliament when it resumes.
The Zambia Center for Inter-Party Dialogue (ZCID) should also convene as a matter of urgency to chart a united path over this important national security situation.

Mutare Mbinga in Mysterious Burial

Chamisa Rubbishes Zim Dollar, Promises To Introduce Real Money

By- CCC leader Nelson Chamisa has urged President Emmerson Mnangagwa to get rid of the Zimbabwe dollar and adopt the US dollar as the sole currency in order to stabilise the economy.

In a position paper on the state of the economy released on Friday, 29 April, Chamisa said the Government should immediately come up with a de-dollarisation roadmap that takes into account the views of all stakeholders. Chamisa said:

Stop the auction system and go for dollarisation. This will immediately remove distortions, multiple pricing, arbitrage, secure stability and save exporting companies from imminent collapse and help all businesses and economic agents to preserve capital.

… There is a crisis of confidence in the market. Citizens are suffering from the price hikes and the deepening poverty level.

All government policies must be demand-driven, inclusive and fully consultative.

We should immediately work on a de-dollarisation roadmap which is inclusive and evidence-based and built on consensus as opposed to command economics and threatening businesses with statutory instruments.

The Government re-introduced the Zimbabwe dollar in 2019 after a decade of a multiple currency regime which brought relative stability to the economy.

The local currency has, however, lost value alarmingly due to the low confidence in the market and this has triggered inflation and sharp price increases.

Economist Gift Mugano also called for full dollarisation, saying businesses cannot thrive where the exchange rate changes daily. Said Mugano:

We should go for full dollarisation clearly because the current economic trajectory has rejected the Zimbabwean dollar.

It’s difficult for businesses to run their companies when rates are changing every day.

With these ugly indicators, there is no company that can operate sustainably.

In any way, the economy is already dollarised as evidenced by the rejection of the Zimbabwe dollar by retailers.

However, another economist, Maxwell Saungweme, said dollarisation was not sustainable and what the Government needs to do is to stabilise the Zimbabwe dollar. He said:

The fundamental issue is not about dollarisation, but the stability of our local currency. Zimbabwe needs to have its own stable currency.

What must be done is to work on measures to stabilise our local, not advocating for its removal and replacing it with the US dollar.

We need to get our economic fundamentals right, boost our productive capacities and have other clear measures to stabilise our currency.

You can’t run an economy without the capacity to leverage monetary policy instruments.

You lose your capacity to leverage monetary policy instruments.

Gonese Wins Against Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube

By A Correspondent| Mutare Central MP Innocent Gonese has just stopped usurpation of Parliament’s primary law-making role by Professor Mthuli Ncube after obtaining an order granted by Justice Musithu, who declared as unconstitutional Section 3(2) of the Finance Act & ruled that it is inconsistent with Section 134(a) of the Constitution as read with Section 117(2)(c) of the Constitution.

Prof Ncube had on 5 June 2020 published SI 123A of 2020, which created a new taxation regime in respect of carbon tax and the NOCZIM Redemption Levy.

In his application filed by Tendai Biti, Gonese argued that Ncube had no power to amend an Act of Parliament and bifurcate the tax or impose a carbon tax between those importers who use free funds those who do not.

The Mutare Central MP argued that only Parliament had the prerogative to do that in terms of Section 134 of the Constitution.

In a judgment handed down on Wednesday, Justice Musithu held that through promulgating SI 123A of 2020, Prof Ncube had repealed and amended an Act of Parliament through a statutory instrument.

He declared the Finance (Amendment of Sections 22E(1) and 22H of the Finance Act) Regulations 2020 published as Statutory Instrument 123A of 2020 as a nullity and set it aside.

The Judge also set aside the Finance (Amendment of Sections 22E(1) and 22H of the Finance Act) Regulations 2020 published as Statutory Instrument 145 of 2020 after declaring it to be a nullity.

He ordered the Registrar of the High Court to place his judgment before the Constitutional Court for confirmation of the order of invalidity.

Brutalised Teacher Wins ZWL$200 000 Compensation

The high court has ordered authorities to pay ZWL200 000 to a teacher who was arrested, tortured and abused by some Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers three years ago.

Munyaradzi Masiyiwa, who is employed as a teacher and is the Deputy Secretary-General of Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ), was arrested by ZRP officers on 16 August 2019 at Market Square bus terminus in Harare as he was waiting to board a commuter omnibus to go to his residence.

The ZRP officers mistook Masiyiwa, who was wearing a red-shirt for an opposition MDC party supporter on a day when the Nelson Chamisa-led party had organised an anti-government protest to press President Emmerson Mnangagwa’sadministration to arrest the country’s worsening economic crisis.

ZRP officers handcuffed Masiyiwa and bundled him into their truck and severely assaulted and tortured him while he lay on his abdomen with truncheons all over his body before instructing him to make coital movements and simulate as if he was having sexual intercourse with the ZRP vehicle.

The law enforcement agents then detained Masiyiwa at Harare Central Police Station in a small and overcrowded cell, where they continued assaulting him and also denied him food before charging him with committing public violence.

Upon arrival at Harare Central Prison after he was remanded in custody, Masiyiwa was ordered by prison officers to strip naked and to jump up and down with his hands in the air.

While in prison, the ARTUZ leader was also denied food by prison officers such that when he returned to court on 19 August 2019 he collapsed during court proceedings and was only allowed to have food at that point. He was eventually cleared of the public violence charges on 7 October 2019.

This prompted Masiyiwa to engage Tinashe Chinopfukutwa of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, who sued ZRP Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga, Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Hon. Kazembe Kazembe, Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Hon.

Ziyambi Ziyambi and Commissioner-General of Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) Moses Chihobvu and a police officer only identified as Jambaya for ZWL200 000 in damages for pain and suffering, trauma, contumelia, embarrassment and humiliation.During trial, Masiyiwa argued that he had been severely abused and humiliated by the conduct of ZRP and ZPCS officers.

This resulted in Harare Magistrate Victoria Mashamba ordering Matanga, Kazembe, Ziyambi, Chihobvu and Jambaya to pay ZWL200 000 as compensation for the ill-treatment of Masiyiwa broken down as ZWL100 000 for pain and suffering and ZWL100 000 for embarrassment, affront to dignity, humiliation and contumelia.

Former Minister Speaks On Opening Of US Command Office In Zambia

Former Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Makhosini Masumpa Matiwane Hlongwane has weighed in on the controversial opening of the United States Africa Command office in Zambia.

In a Twitter thread on Friday, Hlongwane warned that if not handled well the region will degenerate into chaos and become war torn.

Said Hlongwane, “If Southern Africa does not play it’s politics well, very soon the region will be like Latin America, where the US installs it’s puppets into government. This will be accompanied by coups, and violent wars. Some are prepared to deliver the region on a platter.

“The opening of the military office in Zambia drastically renders tenuous and precarious the security situation in the region. The posture of the ANC is worrying while Zambia and Malawi may no longer be relied upon on security due to certain political developements. This latest situation may force other countries to offer China or Russia space for a military base to restore the balance of forces.”

Hlongwane added that SADC must learn from the Russian-Ukraine war and value its peace and  gains of the liberation struggle.

“This will steeply escalate the situation. If Southern Africa is not careful and does not unite all its liberation wars will be rendered useless. Ukraine and Russia have shown us that war and peace should not be taken for granted. All you need are a few zealots to plunge any country into violent conflict.” He said.

Zim Govt Worried Over Operation Dudula

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government is concerned about the killings and torturing of Zimbabweans by the vigilante groups in the neighbouring South Africa, Government Spokesperson Ndavaningi Nick Mangwana has said.

Speaking at a media briefing hosted by the United Nations (UN)  in partnership with the Ministry of Information Broadcasting Services and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to commemorate the International Day  of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace Mangwana said, “The government notes with concern the killing and torture  of Zimbabweans in South Africa. Should there be any nationals, who want any other type of support, they should approach our Embassy in South Africa and they would get the support that is needed.”

He added that the government will be there to facilitate any help for Zimbabweans in South Africa.

“Government’s position is that we do not believe that any form of hate speech should be preached in any member State. As a State, we are there as Government to support our nationals who are in crisis and should there be any nationals who want to come home, Government will facilitate that.” Added Mangwana.

South Africa has seen a rise of an extremist xenophobic vigilante group under the name Operation Dudula which targets foreigners and torture them with the recent victim being Elvis Nyathi who was burnt to death in Diepsloot.

Rushinga Rapist Silences Victim With $10 Bond

20-YEAR OLD Rushinga rapist tried to buy the victim’s silence by offering her $10 bond to buy jiggies after the act.

The matter came to light at Bindura magistrates courts yesterday where Tinotenda Kareya was sentenced to 12 years in jail by regional magistrate Estere Chivasa.

Prosecutor  Tracy Dube told the court that on January 16 last year in Rushinga the rapist met the 10-year-old victim and dragged her in the bush where he raped her once.

After the rape, he offered her a $10 bond after threatening her not to tell anyone.

He told her to buy jiggies with the 10 bond, but the victim’s silence was not bought as she told her grandmother who escorted her to the police station leading to the arrest of Kareya.

Bulawayo Gets 5G Network

BULAWAYO -Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, the country’s largest mobile network operator, yesterday extended its national 5G network to the southern region, by launching the service in Bulawayo.

The new network, which was launched at the ongoing Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF), will offer customers in selected areas within the city super-fast data speeds, improved connectivity and enhanced user experience across multiple service categories and use cases, including business, entertainment and gaming, among many others.

Speaking at the launch event at Econet’s ZITF stand, the company’s Chief Technology Officer, Mr Edwin Banda, said Econet’s 5G launch was in line with the company’s pioneering values and its culture of innovation that has led it to launch many ‘firsts’ in this market.

“We have always been pioneers in this market, in the area of technology and innovation, and the fact that we are the first to launch 5G in Zimbabwe is in line with that tradition.

“Our launch of the service is a response to evolving customer needs, with so many of our customers already having 5G-compatible devices. We want to ensure they are not left behind by technology trends that are already in use in other countries,” said Mr Banda.

Econet launched 5G in Harare back in February, with the promise to play its part in using technology to drive the country towards becoming a full digital economy.

Mr Banda said Econet was rolling out 22 (twenty-two) 5G base stations in Harare, Bulawayo, Victoria Falls, Gweru and Chitungwiza, adding that 18 of the base stations were already up and switched on, while the remainder would be fired up by May 15, 2022.

“We also consider this is an opportunity to understand the technology characteristics in terms of propagation and other technical aspects of its performance that will enable us to plan better regarding where to deploy more base stations as we scale up the rollout,” Mr Banda said.

The colourful launch event was attended by senior representatives from the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz), ZTE (Econet’s 5G technology partner) the Trade Fair Company of Zimbabwe, top customers, Econet executives and various visitors to the Fair.

ZTE CEO, Mr Eric Huang, said the global telecoms and technology supplier had a long working relationship with Econet that dates back to 2007, adding that the creation of a sustainable future through technology was something that ZTE cherishes.

He said ZTE was committed to creating many opportunities for businesses and consumers in this market through its partnership Econet.

“To accomplish this, we always propose good solutions such as (we are witnessing) today, as we launch the super-fast 5G technology,” Mr Huang said.

In remarks read on his behalf Potraz Director General Dr Gift Machengete said the launch of the 5G network in Bulawayo provides fertile ground for the country to rethink, reimagine and reinvent its value chains for economic development.

“As the regulator, we are taking this development very seriously as it means a lot in terms of fostering industrial and societal transformation in line with our aspiration to be an upper middle-income economy by 2030,” he said, in remarks read on his behalf by Mrs Hilda Mutseyekwa, Potraz’s Director for Economics, Tariffs & Consumer Affairs.

Dr Machengete said Zimbabwe is envisioning 5G as a technology that will take innovation to the next level.

“It comes with two key features, namely network softwarisation and network virtualisation, which I foresee facilitating the creation of new value chains, development of new specialised services and applications within and across all sectors, including manufacturing, transportation, energy, agriculture, medicine, you name it!

“Consumers on their part, will be able to enjoy a variety of applications and services for their convenience and pleasure. All this is good for welfare maximisation,” the Potraz director general said.

In addition to connectivity speeds that are up to 100 times faster than that of 4G, the 5G network will also help support and facilitate the actualization of other new technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), the internet of things (IoT), robotics, connected cities and, in the future, self-driving cars, among many other possibilities.

ZITF Chief Executive Officer, Dr Nicholas Ndebele, who attended the launch event, lauded Econet for using technology as a catalyst to drive positive change, adding that Econet’s innovation was in line with this year’s ZITF theme ‘Rethink, Reimagine, Re-invent Value Chains for Economic Development’.

“We believe that change is the only constant, which is why we came up with the theme, Rethink, Reimagine, Reinvent. As ZITF we want to appreciate Econet for the support that they have given this platform and for coming up with innovative initiatives such as the 5G technology that has been launched today,” Dr Ndebele said.

Speaking soon after the ribbon-cutting ceremony at a new 5G base station within the Bulawayo Trade Fair grounds, Mr Banda said 5G would augment Econet’s existing LTE (4G) network.

“We will continue our 4G rollout to all areas of the country to ensure we bridge the digital divide and promote accessibility of digital services to all populated areas of our nation,” he said.

Econet has since its establishment invested over US$2.5 billion in infrastructure and was the first company to introduce 3G and 4G (LTE) networks in the country.

It is currently the market leader infrastructure investment in Zimbabwe, with the largest number of 2G, 3G, 4G and now 5G base stations in the country.

Kaitano Tembo To Take Over Warriors Coaching Job?

Kaitano Tembo’s sacking at SuperSport United saddened many in the local football fraternity.

Matsatsantsa is a club Ngwenya, as Tembo is affectionately known, served for 23 years and the marriage ended not in a way many hoped it would.

The only positive thing about Tembo’s dismissal is that he opened doors for the possibility of coaching the Warriors.

“The only offer we might entertain is if the job is that of being the head coach of the Zimbabwean national team,” a source close to the 51-year old, told South African publication The Citizen.

Focus in the country right now is on getting the FIFA suspension lifted so that the Warriors can take part in the Afcon 2023 qualifiers, but there might come a time a when coach for the team has to be appointed.

The Warriors coach post is vacant, after the expiration of Norman Mapeza’s contract in January.

If the ban is lifted, there is a possibility that Mapeza may be given the chance to continue with the ‘project’ he started when he replaced firebrand Croat Zdravko Logarusic.

But now that Tembo has shown interest, should he also be considered?- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Mthuli Ncube Defeated In Court

South Africa Entering 5th COVID-19 Wave

JOHANNESBURG, April 29 (Reuters) – South Africa may be entering a fifth COVID wave earlier than expected after a sustained rise in infections over the past 14 days that seems to be driven by the BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron sub-variants, health officials and scientists said on Friday.

The country that has recorded the most coronavirus cases and deaths on the African continent only exited a fourth wave around January and had predicted a fifth wave could start in May or June, early in the southern hemisphere winter.

Health Minister Joe Phaahla told a briefing that although hospitalisations were picking up there was so far no dramatic change in admissions to intensive care units or deaths.

He said at this stage health authorities had not been alerted to any new variant, other than changes to the dominant one circulating, Omicron.

Infectious disease specialist Richard Lessells told the same briefing that waning immunity from previous waves could be contributing to the earlier-than-expected resurgence in cases.

He said the rising share of infections attributed to the BA.4 and BA.5 sub-lineages of Omicron suggested they had a growth advantage over other Omicron sub-variants like BA.2.

But so far there was no sign that BA.4 and BA.5 were causing significantly more severe disease, said Waasila Jassat from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases.

South Africa has reported more than 3.7 million COVID cases and over 100,000 deaths during the pandemic. On Thursday, the WHO’s Africa office flagged the rise in South Africa’s infections as the main driver of an uptick on the African continent. read more

Senior health official Nicholas Crisp also said on Friday that the country had enough vaccine doses and was not planning to procure more. He added the government was not intending to buy Pfizer’s (PFE.N) COVID treatment pill Paxlovid for public sector patients, partly because it was very expensive.

Malema Praised For Confronting Mnangagwa Over Zim Crisis

Victory is certain with participatory democracy !CCC Namibia applauds EFF leader.

28 April 2022

Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia salutes EFF leader President Julius Malema for his clarity and Pan-African stance on Zimbabweans residing in South Africa.

We applaud the plausible revolutionary message from the Pan Africanist who made it clear to Zimbabweans in SA that they should feel at home but when the election season comes, all were encouraged to go and vote for change in the motherland.

Namibia district absolutely agrees with EFF President on the issue of voter registration and voting in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabweans in South must pay heed to the audible call to participate in the national discourse. In as much as we feel at home in our host countries across the globe, we should not forget why we are in the diaspora. The fact remains that the diasporas must register in their numbers whilst fighting for the Diaspora Vote.

Diaspora vote is a non- negotiable right although ZanuPF fears that they will be humiliated by political and economic refugees hosted in Africa,America, Europe and Asia.

Thank you EFF for the solidarity with the poverty-stricken masses of Zimbabwe who are enduring all sorts of wild conditions in the diaspora.

We need to embrace the 2022 Citizens’Action for Change where all and sundry are urged to do something for the change that delivers.

Removing ZanuPF from ill-gotten power in 2018 is now imperative to all progressive citizens.

It is quite pathetic to have ZanuPF supporters, members and enablers languishing in abject poverty residing in the diaspora. Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia encourages all Zimbabweans to unite against gross misgovernance and unprecedented corruption in the motherland.

To wind up, citizens living in the diaspora should register to vote for change, vote for change and defend the vote in 2023. President Malema made this significant revolutionary call timeously. We are greatly inspired by his zeal to see a New Great Zimbabwe under the able leadership of President Advocate Nelson Chamisa.

Lets give moral, material and financial support to our foot soldiers during this election season. Victory is certain with participatory democracy.

How Chamisa’s Falling for A Power Sharing Agreement

indepth...Wilbert Mukori

By Wilbert Mukori | If I was in a position to do so, I would make reading George Orwell’s book, Animal Farm compulsory reading for all Zimbabwe for two reasons:
1) The book is an allegorised allusion to the betrayal of the Russian Revolution by Joseph Stalin and his acolytes. There are many parallel with the betrayal of the Zimbabwe Revolution by Mugabe et al or be it the later is a hell lot more chaotic.

indepth...Wilbert Mukori
indepth…Wilbert Mukori

2) By making it compulsory reading one hopes the nation will finally learn why we are in this seemingly intractable mess of our own making.

SOURCE: zimbabwelight.blogspot.com

Shock As Goat Gives Birth To Kid With Human Features

In a spine-chilling, rare and shuttering development that has left village dwellers from rural Zhombe dumbstruck, a goat from a peasantry family in the area recently gave birth to a kid with a human head and other human features, Zwnews reports.

The grotesque incident which has been viewed by the villagers as an act of witchcraft took place in the Mancitshana area in the Zhombe communal area, Midlands Province.

Chief Gwesela, under whose jurisdiction Mancitshana Village falls, confirmed the rare development, while adding that they intended to invite witchdoctors and other traditional leaders in the pursuit of cleansing the area.

“Its quite shocking, really,” said the paramount Chief (born Wait Gwesela).

“We recently witnessed a goat that gave birth to a kid with a human head and the entire village is still in a state of shock over this. We are still perplexed by this development. So, we have decided to consult witchdoctors as a way of cleansing the area of bad spirits,” said the traditional leader.

This is not the first time that Chief Gwesela’s Zhombe has been hogging the limelight for bizarre happenings.

Last year, a woman from the area kept puzzled villagers talking for months on long, after she gave birth to babies with severe abnormalities.

According to sources, this happened after the woman had been involved in a fierce altercation with another villager who threatened her, saying:

“Uchawona hako (You shall see)”.

In light of the circumstances surrounding the woman’s delivering of twins with monstrous features, this resulted in many pointing to witchcraft and African magic as the scapegoats for the woman’s predicament.- ZW News

Diasporan Refugee Duped 85K

A RWANDAN refugee housed at Tongogara Refugee Camp in Zimbabwe appeared in court yesterday on allegations of duping his Burundian friend, now based in the United States, of US$85 000 to buy and register six kombis as an investment.
John Paul Harinditarwi (36) was not asked to plead to the charges when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Yeukai Dzuda charged with theft of trust property and money laundering and was remanded in custody to today for his bail application.

Harinditarwi is alleged to have duped a Burundi national, whom he befriended when they met at Tongogara Refugee Camp before the Burundian relocated to the US in 2005.

It is the State’s case that on January 12, 2005, the Burundi national arrived in Zimbabwe as a refugee and was accommodated at Tongogara Refugee Camp where Harinditarwi and his family were already living. The two then became friends.

In September 2009, the Burundian left Zimbabwe for the US, but they remained in touch.

Sometime in 2017 Harinditarwi suggested that the Burundian could invest in a transport business in Zimbabwe and Harinditarwi could manage the business. They allegedly agreed that the Burundian would buy commuter omnibuses while Harinditarwi would manage the business.

Harinditarwi told his friend that they would make US$1 100 profit each month after servicing and repairs costs have been deducted.

The buying started in 2017. On March 13, 2017 Harinditarwi send his friend an invoice for a Toyota Hiace in the name of Sayed Cooperation in Japan worth US$9 500 and US$9 576 including bank charges was sent. On March 23, 2017 Harinditarwi sent the second invoice of a Toyota Hiace in the name of OS Motors CC in Japan valued at US$10 000 and the money was transferred on March 27, 2022.

The third invoice was sent on April 3, 2017 and US$ 10 676 was transferred from the USA the next day.

In June the fourth invoice saw US$9850 transferred, in January 2018 a fifth invoice produced another US$10 050 and in May the same year a six invoice netted US$9 550.

It is alleged that Harinditarwi was sent US$24 000 through Western Union to register the commuter omnibuses, buy windows and upholstery.

Allegations are that Harinditarwi registered all the commuter omnibuses in his name alone and never remitted the profits to his friend as agreed.- Herald

Dangers Of Noncommunicable Diseases

The NCD Compact will focus on five key areas of commitment:

saving, by 2030, the lives of 50 million people from dying prematurely of NCDs by implementing the most cost-effective measures to prevent and control NCDs;
protecting 1.7 billion people living with NCDs by ensuring that they have access to the medicines and care they need during humanitarian emergencies;
integrating NCDs within primary health care and universal health coverage;
comprehensive NCD surveillance and monitoring; and
meaningfully engaging 1.7 billion people living with NCDs and mental health conditions in policy-making and programming.

PSL Clubs Target Munhumutema?

Former SuperSport United head coach, Kaitano Tembo is open to coaching the Warriors if he is offered the job.

The 51-year-old Zimbabwean was fired by Matsatsantsa A Pitori following a string of poor results.

Reports suggest that some Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clubs are interested in Tembo’s services.

The Citizen reported a source close to Tembo’s camp as saying the former Zimbabwe international has no desire to coach a club in the Zimbabwean premiership. Said the source:

The standard of the Premier Soccer League is very high and it would be taking a step back if Tembo goes to Zimbabwe.

The only offer we might entertain is if the job is that of being the head coach of the Zimbabwean national team.

The Warriors have no coach at the moment after Norman Mapeza’s contract expired at the end of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Cameroon early this year.

Fake Prophet Rapes Harare Woman

A 45-year-old Hatfield woman was raped at her house by a self-styled prophet after she was offered transport and given fake prophecies.

The woman reported the matter on Tuesday after realising she had been duped.

The victim has since been referred to Edith Clinic for medical examination.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Webster Dzvova, confirmed the case.

“Police are investigating a case involving a Hatfield woman who was raped by a man only identified as TK, on March 20, 2022, at around 12pm,” said Asst Insp Dzvova.
“The complainant was walking along Nirvana Road, Hatfield, when she was approached by the accused person, who was driving a white motor vehicle, yet to be identified.
“Accused person offered a lift to the complainant, since they were going in the same direction, and she agreed.
“Along the way, the accused pretended as if he was a prophet and convinced the complainant to go with him to her residence, so that he could perform some rituals.
“When the two arrived at the complainant’s home, the accused person asked the complainant to spread a white cloth and asked for coarse salt and a cup of water.
“The accused person started to pray by putting some cross signs on the complainant’s legs and hands, using the water.
“The accused person asked the complainant to remove her pants and urinate in the bucket and she complied.
“The accused caressed the complainant and raped her once without protection,” Asst Insp Dzvova said.
He said a number of people were falling prey to these false prophets, either getting raped or being robbed. H Metro

Environmentalist Confronts EMA Over Illegal Mining Activities

Young Environmentalist Tadiwanashe Temba has taken the Environmental Management Agency, (EMA) to task over the proliferation of illegal mining activities which are causing land degradation and polluting water bodies in various districts across the country. Speaking at the sidelines of a Gender Sensitive Climate Policy Dialogue meeting held in Chipinge on the 22nd of April 2022, Temba commented on the impact of the environmental harm caused by the illegal mining activities as disproportionately affecting women and girls and has dire consequences on indigenous communities in Zimbabwe whose very survival is hinged on living in harmony with the environment. “EMA is either complicit in turning a blind eye to these mining activities without an Environmental Impact Assessment or it is downright incapacitated” He said, “or some elements in the statutory body are beneficiaries of such activities.”

Illegal mining activities have been on the rise driven by unemployment, a stagnant economy and the demand for minerals like gold and lithium. Environmentalist like Temba have repeatedly fingered high ranking politicians and well-connected business players as drivers of the illicit mineral supply chain which has seen the destruction of the natural environment.

Previously, whilst addressing a demonstration over the forced eviction of Indigenous Budya villagers in Mutoko to pave way for granite and semi-precious stone excavation, Tadiwa Temba challenged EMA to produce a valid Environmental Impact Assessment that could justify the environmentally sustainable exploitation of the minerals. He also lamented the continuous forced eviction of indigenous communities from their ancestral land without adequate compensation if any and highlighted the implications on both the Environment and Indigenous peoples across the country.

Zimbabweans Flock Zambia For Basic Commodities

By- Zimbabweans living at the Northern border town of the country are flocking Zambia for affordable groceries.

This is happening as prices of commodities in local shops are continuously increasing making it difficult for the common man to afford even the basics.

Zanu PF Kariba District Coordinating Committee (DCC) Chairman, Rhodrect Mugwanhira on Wednesday wrote to immigration authorities at Chirundu Border Post, requesting easier access to daily permits that allow locals to cross into neighbouring Zambia.
Said Mugwanhira, who is also Kariba Ward 6 Councillor:
On behalf of my party, ZANU PF and locals in general, l am kindly requesting your office to issue our locals with border passes.
If issued with border passes, they will have the opportunity to buy their daily needs from Zambia.
The letter was endorsed by ZANU PF Kariba DCC Vice-Chairperson, Jean Kambadzo, and Women’s League Provincial Political Commissar, Joyline Munduna, among other senior party officials.
The Covid-19 pandemic and increased cross border crime have lately seen the tightening of conditions at ports of entry.

Klopp Signs New Liverpool Contract

Jurgen Klopp has signed a new contract that will keep him at Anfield until 2026.

The gaffer’s deal was set to expire in 2024 after arriving at Liverpool in October 2015.

Speaking after signing the new deal, Klopp said: “There are so many words I could use to describe how I am feeling about this news… delighted, humbled, blessed, privileged and excited would be a start.

“There is just so much to love about this place. I knew that before I came here, I got to know it even better after I arrived and now I know it more than ever before.

“Like any healthy relationship, it always has to be a two-way street; you have to be right for each other. The feeling we were absolutely right for each other is what brought me here in the first place and it’s why I’ve extended previously.

“This one is different because of the length of time we have been together. I had to ask myself the question: Is it right for Liverpool that I stay longer?”

Assistants Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz have also put pen to paper on new terms, mirroring those of Klopp’s and reaffirming their dedication to the project.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Goat Gives Birth To Kid With Human Head

Zanu Pf Red Flag Its Youths Over Violence Threat

By Samantha Kagora| Mashonaland Central self styled prophet-cum politician Cde Tsungai Makumbe has come under fire after sending chilling threats to youths in the province amid a series of allegations including cheating on his CV he has submitted vying for the national Youth League commissariat.

Makumbe who runs an Apostolic sect is also accused of buying his way through the political ladder which has seen members of the youth league in the province raising an outcry over the foul bending of democratic processes required for mobilisation of the 5 million votes for President Emmerson Mnangagwa ahead of the 2023 elections due to ‘dollar power’.

Traditionally, the province is allocated the commissariat a powerful position that was once held by ousted Godfrey Tsenengamu.“

Speculation is that the province was promised to be allocated the commissariat slot but that was under the anticipation that the party’s key cadre and ZICCOSU leader Pijiwest Nhamburo qualified to which things did not turn out as such, he was the preferred national candidate.“

The race is alleged to have been compromised by the pumping of money to curtail others and as youths we are worried over the continued downfall of the party due to the dollar power where we are ending up with less experienced cadres leading us at a time when there is an existential threat ahead of the 2023 elections,” reveal a party official in the province.

Further worries are rising after it was revealed that Makumbe who is not a holder of any ‘O’ Level certificate cheated in his latest CV submission where the competition is crunch as the party is cherry picking academically fit youths to propel the Vision 2030 agenda.“

“We have also highlighted the issue of lying to the party, we know some of our candidates did not even seat for an O level exam and records are very clear about that and the party recently raised the issue of academically fit candidates to occupy positions for the health of the party.“

Selection of candidates based on qualifications is a noble idea as it will ensure that competent people rather than those who benefit from patronage and popularity, run the affairs of the party,” added the source.

Recently the youths red flagged Makumbe after he send a chilling threat via a voice note to one of the youth on the party’s WhatsApp group platform something which has further exposed his violent despotic natureIn one of the leaked voice notes the self styled prophet is heard aggressively telling one of the youths only identified as Tungamirai that something can happen to him in three days if he keeps on expressing ideas which Makumbe dismissed as unwanted talk.“

Cde, we heard what you said but be quiet now and listen to what i have said and only support the party in silence…your issues of denigrating the party we do not like them but if you continue we will see what happens ahead otherwise be silent now and listen to our protocol.“

“I now have the power and I know how to use it, i do not tolerate such nonsense otherwise if you continue saying this talk i am giving you an ultimatum of three days and see what happens,” said Makumbe in vernacular Shona.

However another youths registered worry over such uncouth threats, “ Cde here is out-of order. @Tungamirai as a youth has the right to agitate for what he believes is right. I think this amounts to pure abuse of power.”

“Kasi munoda kuti tiite youth ingazeyewo zvirikuitika munyika with objectivity? Kana zvirizvo vapinda muzvigaro tiudzei tizive.

Gracco’s were very valid, and in all broad sense of the word helps us to navigate through our challenges and come up with a solution.

“Yes power mavenaro but musatityisidzire and ridiculing us from discussing issues objectively. Again mamwe matsiuriro aya anoita kuti vamwe tive resentful, let’s at the end of the day understand that we’re all Zanu PF Cdes position or no position,” wrote another youth identified as Chirunga.

Meanwhile, Makumbe who is also one of the artisanal miners gang wrecking havoc in Mazowe is not knew to controversy as he has been on a long wanted lists for a spat of criminals activities that he pays for protection fee to a number of known police officers in the province and mainly Mazowe district.

“Despite him being one of us we know his tendencies of extreme violence and crime including chilling stories of brutalisation to the people, we are worried of such rogue approach to Zanu Pf politics, we do not want to say much but the records at ZRP in Mazowe and across the provinces speaks of his notoriety.“

He is currently wrecking havoc in the Rosa Mines where he has been grabbing mining pits using threats and name dropping some high powered names which we cant reveal for the sake of protecting our party dignity,” said the source.

Makumbe boasts of his strong links to the royal family of the Mazowe Negomo clan.

In 2018 during primary elections, Makumbe allegedly fired a gun after an altercation with the current Mazowe Central MP Sydney Chidamba at a Nzvimbo High School, he also has a pending case in which he attacked a fellow prophet of Vadzidzi VaJesu over a land issue in his rural area with several cases reported to the police but swept under the carpet.

This publication could not get a comment from Makumbe as his phone was not being answered.

Haudye Nehama Mari Yacho, “Lotto Juju” Exposed…

Zimbabweans are doubting the lotto juju as all the winners are not spending the money with their families.

Zimbabweans Suffering Due To Mnangagwa’s Porous Economic Policies- President Chamisa

Below is President Chamisa’s presentation…

The economy is tanking and Zimbabweans are suffering at the hands of bad leadership, poor governance and porous economic policies. As the alternative government, we propose the following to be considered and adopted:

There is a crisis of confidence in the market, citizens are suffering from the price hikes and deepening poverty level. All gvt policies must be demand driven, inclusive &fully consultative. The recent attack on CZI position paper by Gvt is regrettable and must never be tolerated!

Stop the auction system and go for full dollarisation – this will immediately remove distortions, multiple pricing, arbitrage, secure stability and save exporting companies from imminent collapse and help all businesses and economic agents to preserve capital.

In line with (3), we should immediately work on a de-dollarisation road map which is inclusive and evidence based and build on consensus as opposed to command economics and threatening businesses with statutory instruments.

To address the economic challenges (such exchange rate spiral and inflation) caused by short term finance on infrastructure, gvt must use long long term finance such as diaspora bonds (eg Ethiopia-the Grand Renaissance Dam) and public private partnerships to fund infrastructure.

Embrace SMART agriculture with a view to foster more active role of the market & gvt providing oversight to minimise distortions caused by agricultural subsidies. The commodity exchange should be used as an effective vehicle for funding & marketing of agricultural commodities.

We must embrace a genuine social contract, which is inclusive to move forward as a nation. Also Expedite a Pre-Election Pact on elections & reforms, constitutionalism and respect of human rights so we restore our integrity in the family of nations.Genuine dialogue is key!

Stop corruption and save US$2.8bn,being the US$1.8bn through illicit financial flows and US $1bn wasted in state owned enterprises and line ministries). This money,if saved, is a real game changer.Greedy, indiscipline and corruption stand as the biggest threat to the economy.

Student Teachers Fleeced?

Dear Editor

We are students from various tertiary colleges Morgan Zintec, Belvedere, Mkoba, Bondolfi, Madziwa the intake groups of 2019 who started the teaching practice in January 2021.

We signed appointment letters to commence our teaching practices in January 2021 and were supposed to finish in December 2021 as per the contract forms signed.

Due to covid lockdown measures which were put in place, schools were not opened for the second term of 2021.

Schools then opened on 17 September for the school learning term and closed on 14 December, the same month of December the student teachers from the above mentioned colleges did not receive their bonuses with no explanations.

As we were supposed to return to the colleges for the final year, we were then told that the last term of last year was our 2nd year and we are to continue with the first term of 2022 on teaching practice.

We continued with the teaching practice till schools closed on 7 April 2022 with no allowances be it Covid allowances, normal RTGS allowances and our December 2021 bonuses still were not paid.

Towards the end of March 2022 in fact the 3rd week, we were told to complete TY 30 forms and a week later we told to complete appointment letters hoping that at least we would get our salaries by the payday of this month of April. Still nothing materialised.

It looks like the SSB officials are working in cahoots with some college officials to defraud the students teachers our hard to get teaching practice allowances.

We only heard that as of late during the month of March, after some behind the scenes consultations SSB then managed to pay Bondolfi students teachers only and the rest of the student teachers from colleges like Morgan Zintec, Madziva, Mkoba are still waiting to receive our December 2021 bonuses, Covid allowances and actual salary/allowances from 10 December 2021 to 7 April 2022 as per the letters of appointment signed during the month of March 2022.

A Tendency and Culture Of Keeping Trash at the Expense of Valuables

By Pepukai Begede- Change (positive) is usually very difficult to achieve especially in the long run. When a specific task takes too long to achieve the consequences of such experience is that people unite to keep their positions in anticipation for a break through.

They may however overlook the fact that they themselves are now an obstacle to achievement. This is the main reason why issues of governance in Africa are greatly being compromised. Overlooking better people with modern skills in preference for acquaintance(s).

Many companies are failing in Africa and in Zimbabwe in particular because of this myopic behavior. Knowledge is best for advancement in as much as stagnation is promoted by keeping volume than value.

Non performing individuals should be retrenched as vibrant and innovative people are engaged. It’s not necessarily about “Age” but performance through target evaluation .

Its unwise to replace an old hardworking and innovative individual by a young hallucinating lazy-nonperforming youngster. It is also not beneficial to keep old cows that no longer produce milk yet wanting food at the end of the day.

It is unwise in this modern era to waste more resources training lazy people to fit for positions that they dont qualify for yet naturally gifted and maneuvering individuals with volume and value are there. I have seen companies and Governments keeping people in positions for salaries and self upkeep at the expense of results delivery or cost-benefit analysis.

Don’t kill the future through negligence and mercy.

Kikky Badass Defends Obert Karombe’s Side Chick

By A Correspondent- Award-winning Zimbabwean rapper and dancer Kikky Badass has defended the late Obert Karombe’s alleged side chick. The queen of rap slammed critics for judging the young lady after she suffered severe injuries in the horrific accident which claimed Karombe’s life.

Following news that the girl may have been permanently paralysed due to the accident, some social media users showed her no sympathy. They insisted that she got what she had coming because she was involved with a married man.

However, Kikky slammed the critics, saying they were going low for wishing such evil on the alleged side chick.

While acknowledging that the girl was wrong, she said no one deserves such a fate and called for people to be more charitable.

Writing on Instagram, Kikky said,

It’s very low for one to suggest that chihure chinokonzera ma accident because that’s a lie. A low blow, if you’re going to judge someone judge chihure chacho Kwete accident because no one plans for something like that to happen. Accidents happen everyday to people from all walks of life.

This whole “dzidzai kusachiva” is quite hilarious because accidents don’t happen because wachiva or wararama a certain lifestyle they happen randomly and they are not planned, NEXT it please.

That girl was wrong for the other part she played yes , but to say she deserves it is quite evil. The whole story is just messy but we shouldn’t act like we are perfect . I hope that she can recover, obviously Gods grace got her out alive for a purpose .

The wealthy Obert Karombe died over the weekend following a horrific accident in Beatrice. He was in the company of his alleged side chick, who is currently admitted at the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.

According to unconfirmed reports on social media, the late Karombe was not in the wrong, but an army truck lost control and swerved into his lane, causing the crash.

Breaking News: South Africa Entering A Fifth Wave Of The COVID-19.

Masvingo’s “Prophet” Rushiri Exposed After Anointing Lady During S*x

Own Correspondent

Masvingo-

Another married lady is accusing a well-known conman who calls himself Prophet Rushiri of having sex with her after lying that she would be anointed during the act.

The lady says she is being threatened with death if she tells anyone about her affair with the conman.

This year alone more than 30 married ladies have accused Rushiri of having sex with them and destroying their marriages.

The conman was firstly ashamed after he slept with the wife of one Masvingo man who was helping him with his Funcago car.

The thief in white clothes decided to take both the car and the wife.

“I agreed to have sex with him because he said I would be anointed. As you know that Prophet Rushiri is known deceiving people through fake miracles.

I tried to apologise to my hubby but he refused saying I must get cured of the STI that I got from prophet first, I feel for my kids and I want God to punish Rushiri,” said one lady who was Rushiri’s follower.

‘The man is sleeping with every lady, it’s now not safe for our kids and wives to go to Rushiri’s sex house which he makes it looks like a church,” added one angry Masvingo man.

Why ED Has Turned To Angel, Java And Makandiwa

By Knowledge Hakata- With less than a year and two months before Zimbabwe holds its highly anticipated 2023 Presidential elections,

President Mnangagwa has of late turned for support from self-styled Prophets and Papa’s in the much flocked charismatic churches in Zimbabwe. The late former President and African strongman Robert Mugabe was usually known for flocking the white garments churches such as Mwazha Sect, Johanne Marange, Mugodhi and he could as well go as far as Zaoga and ZCC.

Politically Zanu Pf has managed to keep its political muscles intact through dishing large pieces of land to these denominations and most of their leaders have proclaimed their allegiance to Zanu Pf especially the likes of Ezekiel Guti, Nehemiah Mutendi, Ndanga ,Wutaunashe, the Noah Taguta just to name a few.

By appointing Uebert Angel as the Ambassador at Large to the Americans and Europe, Mnangagwa made a bold move in capturing one of the most followed Zimbabwean Prophet who at one time prophesied that Zanu Pf will not be removed from power anytime soon. Considering that most of his followers in Zimbabwe are gullible and unsuspecting that this man of cloth is just after taking all their hard earned money through manipulating the gospel.

His appointment was a clever move by Mnangagwa as the prophet will be used to spread propaganda through the pulpit that will cause many not to register to vote as well as loosing interest in voting at all costs, however one should bear in mind that these prophets they don’t just endorse Zanu Pf without massive benefits.

Walter Magaya is undoutly a staunch Zanu Pf sympathizer, whom at one point had to part with thousands of dollars just to buy Former First lady Grace Mugabe book when the then powerful First Lady turned 50 years. In his words Prophet Magaya said he was happy to meet the First Family and he would continue to support the First Lady’s philanthropic work.

During his then crusade in Botswana, Prophet Magaya indicated that it was his wish to meet the then and late President Mugabe. Considering his large following at his Waterfalls base Magaya has never criticized the current regime for its violations of Human Rights either has he ever opened his mouth about the looting and corruption that is practiced by
the Harare regime.

He is one of these self-styled prophets who have received large chunks of land and
mines at the hands of Zanu Pf, whilst thousands of his followers they are walloping in abject poverty.

Comedian and Flamboyant thief Prophet Passion Java was appointed by Mnangagwa to mislead the youths not to register to vote. Java has been campaigning for Mnangagwa and has been following the President at all Zanu Pf events.

The self-styled thief has also been recruiting some popular socialist to support Mnangagwa and Robert Mugabe became his latest victim. The fake prophet has also been bankrolling local artist as to spread Mnangagwa propaganda and Roki has been one of his mouth piece
through his music.

The young prophet has also received his portion of hard cash as well as mining claims, while Zimbabwean hospitals have no cancer machines and thousand are dying every day.

The highly respected and teacher of the word Prophet Makandiwa became Mnangagwa’s latest man of the cloth to endorse the Harare regime when Munangagwa and his Deputy Chiwenga attended his highly packed Easter Conference in Chitungwiza. Makandiwa was quoted saying ‘’It is never the responsibility of the government to create jobs for you’’. The creation of an environment is their responsibility so that you and I prosper and we have that opportunity in Zimbabwe.

There is something wrong with a citizen who keeps complaining and shifting blame, Makandiwa said “. However the same government he says should not create jobs has itself been promising those jobs.

One hopes that religion is not going to be used by preachers, whom people are following in good faith, to shield the government from accountability and delivery of public services in line with electoral promises.

The recent endorsement of Manangagwa by Makandiwa became the final nail on all the famous pastors and preachers in Zimbabwe on which how Zanu Pf has managed to capture all of them.

However Zimbabweans should not lose sleep about how all these prophets are endorsing Mnangagwa one after the other as this is normal in a game of politics, rather Zimbabweans should continue to heed the call by renowned journalist Hopewell Chin‘ono to continue to register to vote in numbers.

‘Alluvah Could Be Lying About His Situation In Cameroon’

It appears the only Zhakata who likes to tell the truth, is Leonard Karikoga.

The legendary musician once said in one of his masterpieces Kana Ndichitaura Batai Mazwi, Kuitira Mangwana (When I speak, listen so that tomorrow you won’t say I didn’t tell you).

That is exactly what you should do on the Alvin ‘Aluvah’ Zhakata saga — listen to us.

Less than a week after it emerged that the Warriors fan is stuck in Cameroon where he is ‘homeless and helpless’, Soccer24 has it on good authotity that a Zimbabwean well-wisher offered to help him, to no avail.

Aluvah has been holed up in the West African’s capital Yaounde, since the Afcon 2021 finals ended in February, amid revelations that he owes Arena Hotel money for unpaid bills and his return home hit a brick wall after his plane ticket attracted penalties.

Soccer24 understands that a Zimbabwean abroad offered to buy Aluvah a ticket, as well as pay the claimed penalties using a credit card, but the lanky fan cast a deaf ear to the proposal and instead, opted for money to be sent.

This totally questions not only his sincerity about the need for help to come back home, but the actual reasons why he is in Cameroon.

“I offered to buy him a ticket as well as pay for the supposed penalty using a credit card. Initially he agreed, but when I then asked him of the day he wants to travel so that I could buy the ticket, he started ignoring me,” the well-wisher, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed to Soccer24.

Contrary to what has been widely-reported, Aluvah is not living in the streets in Cameroon, he has a room to stay in and even has access to food, Wi-Fi and of course, alcohol.
