Trevor Ncube Distances Self From Mnangagwa Coup Project

Trevor Ncube:
I was one of those people who stood up and said give Emmerson Mnangagwa a chance and how wrong I was! But why did I say that?

I said that because this man has sat in the same room with Robert Mugabe, he has seen what Robert Mugabe did in the country.

Maybe, he is really interested in turning things around… This man played a role as far as Gukurahundi is concerned, the massacre of over 20 000 people in Matabeleland.

Maybe, it’s time for him to make amends for that. So I was generous in my spirit as a God-fearing man that this man was about to do a turnaround. Again was I disappointed!

I was actually approached and I agreed to serve in the presidential advisory council, so I sat at close range with the President advising him on a number of issues but I have since retired, stepped down because I can see this thing is not going to end well.

The lesson that we have gotten, all of us, is that anyone who embarks on a coup does not usually do so because they want to promote democracy, widen economic prosperity and so forth.

The people that launched the coup in Zimbabwe were interested in protecting their small personal interests, ethnic interests, business interests and economic interests.

BREAKING: Khupe Officially Joins Chamisa

By Dorrothy Moyo | The woman who in 2020 worked to destroy Nelson Chamisa’s reputation while claiming that he is an illegal leader of the MDC Alliance party, Thokozani Khupe has performed a sudden u turn.

Khupe, who was recently kicked out of her makeshift Mwonzora led organisation, the MDC T, made the announcement despite pressure against her inclusion from many Chamisa supporters who said they fear she will bounce to once again cause divisions in Chamisa’s newly formed Citizens Coalition For Change party.

Speaking while wearing a yellow Chamisa party t shirt, Khupe on Monday morning announced- “We’re building a strong foundation towards a resounding victory in 2023. So let us all of us rally behind president Nelson Chamisa as we prepare for 2023 elections, as it is going to be a defining moment for every citizen in this country”-

Zanu PF Fumes At ED, VP Chiwenga Rift Reports

By A Correspondent- ZANU PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu on Saturday claimed that there was no rift between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga.

Mpofu made the remarks at a Zanu PF rally which was addressed by Mnangagwa at Siabuwa in Binga, Matabeleland North province.

There have been reports that the two are leading two factions angling to take over party reins ahead of the elections slated next year.

There have been lies that there is beef between President Mnangagwa and VP Chiwenga. Such lies infuriate me. Mnangagwa likes his party. He loves people he works with. There are lies that Mnangagwa and Chiwenga are fighting.

This is in the minds of insane people and it is not in normal people’s minds. I have never heard the President complaining about his VPs. They are trustworthy people. All of them are war veterans, they were well trained and know the truth about our development.

He claimed that Mnangagwa and his top aides loved Matabeleland North province no wonder he paid the region several visits.

The former Mines Minister added that Chiwenga is a soldier so he “speaks his mind when he has to reprimand you.”

Mpofu made the remarks while introducing Chiwenga, who later presented Mnangagwa to address supporters at the rally.

Chiwenga described Mnangagwa as the only Munhumutapa in Zimbabwe at the moment.-newsday

CCC Activists Challenge Biased State Media Reporting

By A Correspondent- The lawyers representing Joanah Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri have filed a formal complaint with the court over alleged biased reporting by the ZBC, Herald and comments by government spokesperson, Nick Mangwana.

Mamombe and Chimbiri are members of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).

Alec Muchadehama of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights told magistrate Faith Mushure that the two State-controlled media organisations continue to report “lies” by claiming that the two denied being abducted.

“Before cross-examining the witness, I was instructed by the accused person to raise concern about certain media outlets commenting on the matter that is currently pending.

“The Herald newspaper, ZBC and Nick Mangwana during this time of proceedings are continuing to say they lied that they were kidnapped, that they have now made a U-turn contrary to what they said. We expect to have factual reporting,” Muchadehama said.

He said Mangwana continued to tweet on matters that were before the court.

“They continue denigrating them on a matter that is pending before the court. That is sub judice and they must be asked to report factually.”

Muchadehama submitted a case law when musician Paul Matavire was being tried of rape. He noted that Matavire later wrote a song denigrating the victim and the court stopped radios from playing the song.

Muchadehama said Mushure should give such instructions, but prosecutor Michael Reza opposed the application, saying the court could only bar journalists from covering proceedings instead of giving an order on house policy.

Mushure ruled that the defence have the right to complain over unfair coverage, but should exhaust channels in order to bar the media houses.

The trial for the two CCC members was postponed to March 24 for continuation.

Mamombe and Chimbiri are being accused of communicating falsehoods after they were allegedly abducted by suspected State security agents. They were later found dumped in rural Bindura.-newsday

Cop Nabbed For Masquerading As ZACC Official

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) has arrested three people including a police officer, who masqueraded as their officials and duped a cross-border trader of US$2 000.

The trio, Superintendent Egdar Moyo of Gokwe district police headquarters, Cephas Phiri and Crispen Manda were arrested after one of them was caught red-handed wearing police uniform.

“One of the accused, Manda, was caught with police uniforms and badges of rank — shoulder titles of the rank of chief inspector Supt Moyo is in police custody waiting to appear in court while Manda and Phiri were remanded in custody pending bail application,” Zacc posted.

The anti-graft body lamented an increase in bogus characters who pretend to offer services on behalf of government agencies while extorting money from people.

“The commission wishes to inform the public that its personnel does not receive or demand money from suspects or complainants to carry out their duty. Any such demands must be reported to the commission at any of its offices,” Zacc said.

he commission also said it had intensified investigations to end these criminal activities.

Last month, Zacc arrested three men who impersonated Zacc officials and tried to open an illegal office within the port.

Mashonaland Central senator Angeline Tongogara has implored the government to come up with measures to deal with corruption.

She said the government established Zacc to deal with corruption,
but such incidents continue to proliferate.

“This Senate calls upon the Executive to introduce deterrent measures for those engaging in corrupt activities. The Judiciary should fast-track cases of corruption through courts that will be established to deal with such,” Tongogara said.

“The government through, the anti-corruption courts, must impose stiffer penalties on corruption as a mechanism of promoting restraint among public officials. All cases of corruption regardless of form must be treated as high-level criminal cases, thus attracting long and deterrent sentences,” she added.-newsday

Health Practitioners Threaten Mass Resignation Over Punitive Bill

By A Correspondent- Health practitioners have rejected the Health Services Amendment Bill which they say seeks to punish them for exercising their labour rights and have threatened mass resignations if it is passed into law.

At a public hearing on the Bill conducted in Bulawayo by the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Health and Child Care last Friday, the medical staff rejected the proposed law which they said was despotic.

The committee is chaired by Ruth Labode.

Participants at the public hearing comprised mainly health workers, who said the proposed law would hasten their departure for greener pastures.

A gynaecologist, who only identified himself as Dube, expressed concern over working conditions proposed by the Bill and appealed to Parliament to engage health personnel on the way forward.

“I don’t know what this amendment seeks to achieve, has dialogue failed? The government has to consult employees and negotiate a good settlement. This amendment was not carefully done because it seeks to propagate views of one side over those of everyone. It is clear that the government is pushing its own agenda, hence we have no choice but to leave our jobs, stay at home, go farm or hustle like everyone else,” Dube said.

Dube said he was sceptical of the so-called public consultation process because it appeared as if a decision had already been made on the matter, with the hearings being used to rubber stamp the process.

Anaesthetist, Ngqabutho Dube pointed out that there was mass exodus of health workers because of the government’s unwillingness to address pressing issues.

“The employer wants to criminalise and distance himself from listening to our grievances and when dialogue is closed professionals will silently leave. We have seen mass exodus of health practitioners going to the United Kingdom because the employer is refusing to give certificates of good standing to health professionals,” he said.

“Hospitals are empty, honestly we would rather sell tomatoes than work under scary conditions. The Bill seeks to curtail the labour rights of medical practitioners.”

Zimbabwe Medical Association president Francis Chiwora said the Bill was oppressive to the medical practitioners, citing a clause that says “any job action is restricted to seventy-two hours within any 14-day period. Any member, who makes or organises job action, faces prosecution with a potential sentence of three years in prison or a level 10 fine which is currently $70 000”.

This, according to Chiwora, gives the government a stranglehold of the health services while depriving workers of their freedom at the same time.-newsday

VP Chiwenga Confident Of Zanu Pf Victory In Forthcoming By-elections

By A Correspondent- Vice President Constantino Chiwenga yesterday said Zanu-PF had already won the March 26 by-elections and told party members to start celebrating.

Speaking during the launch of the public procurement registration services in Nkulumane, Bulawayo, Chiwenga said the ruling party would celebrate the victory with a “big pomp”.

The launch was a partnership between the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Praz) and Zimpost.

“We are celebrating 2022 with a big pomp in that I am quite sure he (Zanu-PF Bulawayo provincial chairman Jabulani Sibanda) is going to take all the seats which we had lost to the opposition. I am saying so because we are delivering what we have said,” Chiwenga said.

The ruling party has suffered defeats in Bulawayo since the formation of the opposition MDC in 1999.

It was only in 2015 when the ruling party got five seats in by-elections boycotted by the opposition.

But Chiwenga said the ruling party will spring a surprise.

“Here in Nkulumane we have David Ndlovu (Zanu-PF aspiring MP for Nkulumane), he will be in Parliament and we want to celebrate his victory before he comes to Parliament,” he said.

“We also want to celebrate those who will be in the council, Janet Moyo and Thabo Thwala. More also what is important after the elections is that in Bulawayo, you will be having Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta opening the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF).”

Chiwenga said the launch of the public procurement service at all Zimpost offices and community information centres would result in the decentralisation of public procurement services.

“The partnership between Zimpost and Praz is riding on the vision of the President Emmerson Mnangagwa to close the digital divide through the increased participation of marginalised communities in national development,” he said.

“The reforms in public procurement aim to achieve an efficient, fair, transparent and competitive public procurement system in the country. This means that no eligible bidder, contractor or consultant should be left out in the bidding of services or goods advertised.”

Chiwenga said the move had made it easier for those in remote areas to have access to the services.

“The participation of bidders throughout the country promotes competition for delivery of goods and services resulting in the competitive pricing and value for money in public procurement

Information Communication Technology minister Jeffery Muswere said the partnership between Zimpost and Praz has made the journey to vision 2030 easy.

“The coming together will ensure that the public procurement services become a success. Vision 2030 identified key areas that are going to turn around the macroeconomic areas. One of the key areas is the digital economy and in order to ensure our Vision 2030,” Muswere said.-newsday

I Will Turn Around The Fortunes Of This Country In 5 Days: Chamisa

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) president Nelson Chamisa says he only needs five days to fix the country once he wins state power from the ruling Zanu PF.

He said this while addressing a copious crowd at Rujeko Grounds in Masvingo Sunday.

Chamisa also said he is better placed to protect the country’s liberation war heritage and its ideals than President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“We want Mnangagwa to retire and watch how we run this country. If he goes, we don’t need five days to turn the fortunes of the country, we will stop corruption and theft of national resources,” Chamisa said.

“I can assure you that I can defend the ideals of the revolution better than Mnangagwa. Under my leadership, I will not allow an inch of Zimbabwe, its resources and sovereignty to go into the hands of any foreigner,” he declared.

Chamisa, who lost a Constitutional Court challenge after Mnangagwa won the controversial 2018 presidential election by a narrow margin, said he would not take the same route.

“This time I am not going to take any issue of electoral fraud to court. I tell you this time it is never going to happen, not this time around,” Chamisa said.

“You Reap What You Sow”

MLO is happy to announce that the Zimbabwe President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, although still scared to engage MLO, has finally recognised our demand for Matabeleland to break away from Zimbabwe and restore the statehood of Matabeleland to emerge as The Republic of Matabeleland.

His statement in Binga on Saturday 19 March, 2022 is testimony that he did not only receive the Demand for The Restoration of Matabeleland State but also read and understood it.

He was quoted by the media as saying,”You have heard me saying Zimbabwe is one. The Government of Zimbabwe is one. If you ask spirit mediums in any part of the country or ask God, you will be told that Zimbabwe is ruled by Zanu-PF. We are a unitary State and those who want to divide or separate the country should be exorcised of the spirit of Legion.”
It is not our wish to divide Zimbabwe. How can we divide a country that is already divided? When President Mnangagwa and his government exalted those of Hutu and Burundi origins (Shona) and gave them a superior status over those that were origially from South Africa (Matabele), they should have known that they were dividing their Zimbabwe along tribal lines.

When Mnangagwa and and his government especially him, Mnangagwa, stood up and accused Matabele people of being cockroaches and went on to deploy the Zimbabwe National Army 5th Brigade to slaughter more than 40 000 innocent Matabele civilians, rape more 100 000 Matabele women, burn down more than 100 000 Matabele homes and displace more than 1 million Matabeles into South Africa and Botswana and those who remain in Zimbabwe are still tribally segregated and oppressed, they should have known that their divisive tribalistic ways had escalated to unacceptable and dangerous levels of tribal hate and genocide.

This was an attempt to obliterate Matabele nation from the face of earth which translates into extreme tribal division and hate clearly marked with Matabele blood. That cannot be blamed on anyone other than than Mnangagwa and his government. They should have known that they were applying for the quick implosion of Zimbabwe.

You rip what you saw. The seeds of tribal division that you have been unwisely sawing since 1980 are now bearing bitter fruits. So enjoy!

Now that you have finally removed your head from the sand and seen reality, you must, firstly, prepare yourself, physically and psychologically to get used to ruling Zimbabwe AKA Mashonaland without Matabeleland territory. How big Zimbabwe will be without Matabeleland territory is none of our business. We do not want an inch of it.

Secondly, prepare the Zimbabweans or Shona masses or those who are originally from Burundi, to be ready to use passports to enter The Republic of Matabeleland. Young Matabele men and women will be ready to serve them with pride and a smile at the Jameson Line border to be known as Mgiqika and Mgandane Border Post.

We will not move an inch from our demands up and until they are fully met.

 I)  Restoration of Matebeleland State as at 3 November 1893 and emerge and join the family of nations as The Republic of Matebeleland

2)   Pay US$100billion dollars reparations for Matebele genocide done by the Zimbabwe government through Zimbabwe National Army 5th brigade in 1981-1987

If the President of Zimbabwe talks about the above demands we are prepared to listen to him. But if he continues to babble  about digging the graves of the dead and his love for spirit mediums and demons, those are fables that we are not interested in.

We remind him that no one, and no one can stop an idea whose time has come!

“Yellow Skies Rally Took Many By Storm”

Speculations had predicted a low turn up of supporters at the Citizen’s Coalition for Change Rally that was held in Bulawayo on the 5th of March 2022.

There was a talk about a general political detachment and reluctance that seemed to have grown and engulfed the citizens of Bulawayo.  This line of thought follows a reflection on the political terror and marginalization that has been endured by Bulawayo under ZANU PF autocracy.

Bulawayo is the urban town of Matabeleland, one of the two provinces that were subdued as a result of a genocide known as Gukurahundi in the years 1982-87 by the ZANU PF 5TH Brigade. President ED Mnangagwa was minister of state security in charge of military operations that influenced 5th Brigade at the time.

This genocide was committed against the people of Matabeleland and Midlands because of their affiliation with ZAPU, a political party that was led by Joshua Nkomo who also came from the same region. The massacre killed an estimated number of over 20 000 people. The violence continued over the years of Mugabe’s rule that turned Zimbabwe bloody during election years in a bid to silence the minority and instil fear to vote.

Mnangagwa’s regime that took over power in the so-called military coup, continued with their dirty tactics of terror employing organized violence through state agents; police, military, and Central Intelligence Organisation.

Using state apparatus, they have continued to commit violence through arbitrary arrests, detainments, abductions, use of lethal weapons to torture, barter, and kill innocent citizens, activists, supporters, and members of opposition parties.

All this, including rigging of the elections has rendered most citizens politically exhausted due to the disappointments of election results over the years in Zimbabwe. ZANU PF has cringed to power despite corruption, looting, oppressing, torturing, and inhumanly brutalizing its citizens.

Bulawayo having suffered ZANU PF’s gruesome violence in the past together with deliberate economic incapacitation, citizens are disgruntled by the regime’s conduct, the lack of rule of law, and there are mostly devastated by the stagnancy of the political continuum of Zimbabwe.

The marginalization has led to industrial closure, shrinking of infrastructure, and high unemployment rate. Though such phenomena exist in all of Zimbabwe’s crumbling economy, the case of Matabeleland and Midlands is worse due to the neglect and nepotism the region continues to face.

Despite speculated fear, hopelessness, and tiredness towards Bulawayo citizens in politics, the CCC Yellow Skies Rally held at White City Stadium shocked many by storm. It was attended by thousands. Bulawayo citizens chose to believe yet again in the new hope for the redemption of Zimbabwe being led by Nelson Chamisa.

During his speech, there was an instant chemistry between Chamisa and Bulawayo. Chamisa addressed the Yellow Skies rally in Ndebele and speaking almost fluently. He was jovial from his dancing to singing.

Chamisa seems to fit well with citizens of Zimbabwe across their ages, races, and tribes. He humbly mingled with the citizens. There were equally ecstatic and could not stop chanting the slogan, “Kangene UJaha” which illustrated their readiness for change.

His speech illustrated an understanding of the trauma suffered by the people of Bulawayo and his true love for the city and how he wants it to develop.  Chamisa touched on the wound of the Matabeleland citizens; the Gukurahundi genocide. He promised that once the CCC government is in office administration, he will foster healing and reconciliation. Steps he mentioned for this process included erecting a memorial site for all the victims of Gukurahundi, declaring a National Day of Mourning and Commemoration and offering compensation to the long grieving families.

Under the ZANUPF tyranny, the Ndebele culture has always been fought and an attempt to strip it off is continuously made. Chamisa promised the restoration of the ceremonial Ndebele monarch and building of sites that preserve the Ndebele culture.

Chamisa described his intended government to be led by citizens, putting the citizen at the front, and serving them from behind. He was chanted at by Bulawayo citizens as he left the rally location.

Chamisa spoke about how sentimental the Bulawayo city makes him feel. When younger, he says he had travelled from Mashonaland to Bulawayo to buy jeans and shoes. Being locally manufactured at the now closed industries of Bulawayo, jeans and shoes were affordable so much that one would travel from their city or village to buy them. He promised the restoration of Bulawayo.

Chamisa envisions the development and economic growth of Bulawayo to be unlocked through cattle ranching in agriculture, mining, and tourism. All these are sectors full of potential in Matabeleland.

According to Chamisa, the combination of natural beauty sites and a rich heritage of the Ndebele culture should yield forth a lucrative tourism industry. The same with mining, the vast mineral deposit that surround Bulawayo should develop mining technology that is sustainable, creating employment and yielding forth economic growth for the city of Bulawayo.

“Stop Police Brutality”

There has been spiralling of political motivated violence targeting members of the opposition. This is bad publicity for President Emmerson  Mnangagwa who is calling himself a new republic.

By Leonard Koni- President Emmerson Mnangagwa must not keep quiet whilst other people are given the room to butcher other people just because they differ in political ideologies.

Honestly we have issues on the table to address such as corruption, lack of rule of law and human rights abuses, unemployment  which is hovering over 80% These are major obstacles scaring away investors.

There is no justification to resort to violence if people differ politically.

We cannot have reports of violence being perpetrated by the police who are supposed to uphold the rule of law. It is so disturbing that we now have people who are masquaranding as police officers dressed in police uniform and yet they political activists.

The police must stick to their service charter and should conduct their duties without fear or favour. They should not dabble in politics.

Whenever we go for elections there is always political violence at times caused by police conduct. Police brutality is the order of the day. The police is supposed to protect and preserve life not harassing citizens.

Ill- treating suspects in police custody just because they are wearing yellow colour is so primitive, unprofessional diabolic and medieval stone age thinking which should be condemned with the strongest terms it deserves.

The inhuman treatment and torturing of Godfrey Karembera popularly known as Madzibaba veShanduko who was detained at Harare Central Police and facing a charge of disorderly conduct for allegedly wearing yellow regalia in the central business district of Harare.

This is no doubt a clear sign of strangulation of democracy and unprofessional has no place in modern day politics.

This is completely unacceptable and uncalled for and its  degrading treatment.

The Police Commissioner Godwin Matanda just like his predecessor Augustine Chihuri has lost his lustre and it is high time he should be relieved of his duties. The Zimbabwe Republic Police has lost it’s ways to serve the citizens.

We need to interrogate this kind of policing or else we are heading for disaster. The police must not resort to torture and
intimidation if you are being beaten on the ground. Those who have perpetrated this offence must face the full wrath of the law. We demand answers.

British Soldiers Ordered Off Whatsapp Over Hacking Fears

The British Army has banned WhatsApp over fears Russia is hacking the platform to acquire operationally sensitive information.

All personnel, from senior officers to junior soldiers, must cease using the phone messaging service for professional purposes or face disciplinary action.

A Ministry of Defence document confirming the ban last night said there were ‘significant security concerns’ around using WhatsApp.

The order, effective immediately, comes after the Daily Mail reported at the weekend that Russia was using UK mobile phone data to select airstrike targets in Ukraine.

A cruise missile attack last Sunday on a training camp for foreign fighters, which killed 35 and wounded 134, was initiated after UK numbers apparently ‘lit up’ a Ukrainian phone network covering the base.

Senior government ministers may now come under increased pressure to cease using Whats-App for official business.

The Prime Minister, Defence Secretary, Foreign Secretary and Home Secretary all use the platform, and their communications may have been targeted by the Kremlin.

Last night, WhatsApp insisted its ‘end-to-encryption’ system was secure and that governments could not intercept personal messages and calls.

But security sources said UK and US intelligence officers have intercepted WhatsApp calls and located message senders for national security purposes. It is considered highly likely Russia has acquired the same capability.

Remarkably, given such serious security concerns, Boris Johnson is thought to use WhatsApp routinely.

n 2020 he faced criticism over claims he spoke to Saudi Arabia’s crown prince Mohammed bin Salman over the platform.

The official MoD document seen by the Daily Mail states: ‘Direction: due to significant security concerns, all Field Army personnel are to cease the use of WhatsApp for work-related communications immediately.

‘WhatsApp should only ever be used as a method of last resort defined as: a means of communication which should only be used in circumstances where failure to do so would result in death, serious injury or operational compromise.’

The ban covers voice calls and messaging. Troops have been recommended to use an alternative chat and messaging service called Signal, which is understood to provide enhanced security features and is favoured by the UK’s Secret Intelligence Service (MI6).

Conversations on Signal are not backed up or stored, thereby reducing the chance of messages being accessed.

The MoD document continues: ‘Alternative: Signal may be used for work related messaging and voice calls up to OFFICIAL [a security rating for the information] only. Signal is free to download. It can also be used as a desktop application – and provides similar functionality to WhatsApp.’

Owned by Facebook’s parent company Meta, WhatsApp is one of the world’s most popular messaging apps with around two billion users.

It was fined £200million in 2021 for a lack of transparency over its handling of users’ personal information and sharing of data with other Facebook companies.

Last night, its communications director Alison Bonny said: ‘WhatsApp protects your personal messages and calls with the industry-leading Signal protocol for end-to-end encryption. So they cannot be intercepted by any government.’

The Mail revealed on Saturday how Russia is selecting targets in Ukraine based on phone data its agents harvested in Britain.

Officers from Moscow’s military intelligence division, the GRU, visited some of Britain’s most sensitive military sites – including the headquarters of the SAS – and recorded data as devices were switched on.

The Kremlin-compiled database is now being compared against international numbers popping up on Ukraine’s mobile phone networks.

According to an urgent security notice shared between ex-SBS and SAS personnel, the appearance of two such numbers in any location could trigger a missile attack.

There has been increased concern about the threat of Russian espionage and intelligence gathering capability following the invasion of Ukraine.

Last week, a suspected Russian agent was able to set up a ten-minute video call with Defence Secretary Ben Wallace, after hoodwinking UK officials he was Ukraine’s prime minister.

Last night, the MoD said: ‘Alternative messaging apps can be more appropriate for work-related communication due to different types of security settings.

‘We are not asking personnel to delete WhatsApp from their work phones and the advice is not linked to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.’

Zanu Pf Candidates Shenanigans Exposed

To the Editor

Dangamvura Chikanga Constituency Zanu Pf Candidates, Esau Mupfumi and Mutengo are trying to give a credit on the construction of Hobhouse road in Mutare.

While addressing at a funeral in Hobhouse yesterday, Mutengo lied to the mourners that it is Zanu Pf which is in charge of constructing the road.

From the way he was talking, it seems as if he is far away from the truth of the developments which are happening in the city. He also lied that his party will construct borehole in Hobhouse. He has no clue on Dangamvura pipeline which will try to solve Dangamvura and other places water crisis.

On the issue of the road, Mutengo thinks that we are not aware that Zinara, with the instruction of Zanu Pf diverted road fund money from City council to the Ministry of roads, which is now giving Zanu Pf the platform for campaigning.

When there were budgets consultation for the development of ward 17, Mutengo was nowhere to be found. He was busy buying fertilizers and maize from the GMB and selling it at higher prices to poor citizens of Zimbabwe in the remote areas.

Very reliable sources informed me that Esau Mupfumi and some Zanu Pf wards Candidates will do an official opening of the road.

This is unacceptable, no one is allowed to reap what he/ she does not saw.

Every Zimbabwean knows that Zanu Pf has failed. It is not the right time for it to promise but to deliver. It should have delivered in the 1980s.

By now Zimbabwe should have better roads, jobs and better infrastructure.

It is the time Citizens should show Zanu Pf the middle finger. Zanu Pf is a failure.

Assault Of Madzibaba Veshanduko Is Meant To Intimidate Opposition Ahead Of By-Elections: Amnesty International

Responding to the assault and torture of a supporter of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) by members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police on 17 March, Muleya Mwananyanda, Amnesty International’s Deputy Director for Southern Africa, said:

“This brutal and vicious assault against Godfrey Karembera is meant to intimidate political opposition supporters in Zimbabwe ahead of the upcoming by-elections. This attack is a chilling reminder of the country’s history of unlawful use of force by police around elections.

“It sends a message to supporters of the opposition that they will pay a price for aligning with the political party of their choice.

“The police claim that Godfrey Karembera, known as Madzibaba Veshanduko, used abusive language against them or tried to deface the statue of Mbuya Nehanda holds no water. Police are trained to enforce the law and not to break it themselves – they must use the proper process to deal with suspected criminals including bringing them to court for a fair trial.

“The police in question must be investigated and those found responsible must be brought to justice.”

Background

Photos of assaulted Karembera appeared on social media on 17 March. Justifying the assault, Zimbabwean police said in a statement that he was “engaging in unsanctioned political activities in the Harare Central District”.  Violence against the opposition has been escalating in Zimbabwe in recent weeks.

On 27 February, a gang appeared at Mbizo 4 shopping centre in Kwekwe, to stop the CCC from holding a political rally. The gang allegedly used not only machetes but also beer bottles, iron bars, spears and bricks to attack supporters while Nelson Chamisa, the leader of the CCC, was giving a speech. At least 1 person died and 17 were injured.

A CCC Candidate Thokozile Dube was surrounded by the ruling ZANU-PF militia who assaulted her and destroyed property for failing to withdraw her candidature in Umzingwane constituency.

On 26 February, Zimbabwe’s Vice President, Constantino Chiwenga, sent a warning to the CCC, saying the ruling ZANU-PF party would “crush the party like lice”.

Chamisa Speaks On Tsvangirai’s Mistakes

By- Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa said he rejected President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s offer to form a government of national unity government as a way of avoiding a mistake made by the late MDC founder, Morgan Tsvangirai.

Tsvangirai entered into a GNU with the late president Robert Mugabe in 2008 following violent elections that were widely condemned as not free and fair.

Mugabe was, however, accused of reneging on the deal and used the GNU era to further weaken Tsvangirai’s party, the MDC.
Chamisa accused Mnangagwa of unleashing violence against his supporters as punishment for turning down the offer for a GNU to stop the holding of the 2023 general elections.
Addressing thousands of CCC supporters at Sakubva stadium in Mutare on Saturday, Chamisa said:
We refused an offer for a government of national unity (GNU) and said let’s go to elections; those who have won will lead and those who lose will support the winners either as opposition or united government, but we will not make the mistakes we made under former late president Morgan Tsvangirai.
Chamisa accused Mnangagwa of setting up torture camps and bases to brutalise CCC members ahead of the 2023 elections.
A CCC activist in Kwekwe was fatally stabbed by suspected ZANU PF members recently, while several others were injured.

Chamisa was in Mutare to campaign for CCC’s aspiring legislators Regai Tsunga and Prosper Mutseyami, who are eyeing the Mutasa South and Dangamvura/Chikanga seats respectively.
CCC is also contesting a number of vacant local government seats in the Mutare.

Police Speak On Madzibaba Veshanduko Torture

By-The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has asked for “space” from the public, including reporters to conduct investigations into the assault and torture of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist Godfrey Karembera by police officers.

Karembera, better known as Madzibaba VeShanduko, was brutally assaulted while in custody at Harare Central Police Station on 17 March.

ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on Saturday told The Standard the police is investigating the allegations but need “space”. Said Nyathi:

We made it clear from the onset that we are investigating allegations that Karembera was beaten by police officers and we will make sure that the law takes its course.

So we would like to appeal to the members of the public including the media to give us the space to conduct investigations.

We also want to try to avoid investigating the case while at the same time we are giving every bit of information to the media.

But I can assure you that everything is being done above board.

Karembera was arrested in central Harare last Thursday and charged for disorderly conduct and trying to deface Mbuya Nehanda’s statue.

He appeared before Harare magistrate Barbara Mateko at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals on Saturday.

Karembera is currently admitted at the hospital where he is receiving treatment following the torture and assault by police officers.

His lawyer, Doug Coltart said the magistrate refused to allow him to file an application challenging his placement on remand after the torture. Mateko said the application should be made on Monday.

Mnangagwa Rewards Intra-Party Violence Victim

By-Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa has offered a new car to a senior Binga party member whose property was burnt down by party thugs in Binga.

Mnangagwa has also threatened to intervene if party leaders in Matabeleland North Province fail to contain the situation.

Mnangagwa made the threats during a campaign rally at Siabuwa Business Centre in Binga District on Saturday.

The threats came after a central committee member in the district, Veronica Mnkuli, recently had her house and vehicle burnt by opponents. Said Mnangagwa:

Let us forget the misunderstandings that we have been having.

I hear that there have been problems after party elections in Binga.

I want to say to Zanu PF leaders in this province that you must be united.

If you fail to unite, I will have to step in.

No one can pocket Zanu PF, but Zanu PF can pocket everyone.

I heard Veronica Mnkuli, a central committee member, had her house and vehicle burnt when she was trying to unite Zanu PF leaders in the province.

This is very bad, peace, harmony and unity should prevail in Zanu PF.

Therefore, I have requested Mnkuli to come to Harare on Monday so that I give her a new car.

Mnangagwa also donated 31 fishing boats to traditional leaders and the women’s league.

Binga is arguably one of the most underdeveloped districts in the country and the opposition has been dominant since the year 2000.

ZACC Arrests Syndicate Impersonating ZACC Commissioners

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested three men on allegations of impersonation.

ZACC has arrested Sup. Edgar Moyo of ZRP Gokwe District Headquarters and two accomplices Cephas Phiri and Crispen Manda for impersonating ZACC Commissioners and defrauding a cross-boarder trader of $USD2 000.

Allegations against the trio arose on the 5th of February 2022 when the complainant, Nyengeterai Mutasa, had her consignment of goods impounded at Chirundu Border Post by ZIMRA officials for non-payment of duty.

She was given contact numbers purported to belong to Commissioners Muradzikwa and Makamure of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission by a clearing agent only identified as Nothando claiming that the two would facilitate for the release of her merchandise.

Mutasa called the numbers and was responded to by persons claiming to be Commissioners Muradzikwa and Makamure who instructed her to deposit USD200-00 through the InnBucks facility for fuel to travel to Chirundu Border Post and she complied.

It is further alleged that on the 20th of February 2022, Mutasa was again called by the duo who instructed her to give Superintendent Edgar Moyo, by then a Chief Inspector and Officer in Charge Kwekwe Central Police station, USD2100-00 to release her goods.

Mutasa met with Supt Moyo in Kwekwe and gave him USD$500.00

It is alleged that Supt Moyo then instructed a subordinate to deliver the money and police badges of rank – shoulder titles and a Special Tactics Unit cap to the bogus Commissioner Muradzikwa at Empress Turn Off between Kwekwe and Kadoma along Bulawayo Road.

On the 26th of February 2022 the complainant was again instructed to pay another USD$1000-00 through the same subordinate who handed over the bounty to the bogus Commissioners.

Further allegations are that on the 1st of March 2022, Mutasa gave another USD300-00 to Supt Moyo after being instructed to do so by the bogus commissioners.

A team of ZACC investigators swooped on Cephas Phiri at his house in Kadoma on 16 March 2022 and arrested him. He was remanded in custody to the 22nd of March 2022 pending bail application.

Two days later, the team tracked Crispen Manda and arrested him at his girlfriend’s place in Kadoma where they recovered USD $500-00 which he claimed was part of the money the gang defrauded the Mutasa. The team also recovered ZRP Uniforms and badges of rank – shoulder titles of the rank Chief Inspector.

Manda appeared in court and was remanded to the 21st of March 2022 pending bail application.

On the same date, the team managed to arrest Supt Moyo in Gokwe. He is expected in court on the 21st March 2022. – Agencies

Mpofu Says There’s No Friction Tween ED, Chiwenga | TRUTH or NONSENSE?

ZANU PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu on Saturday claimed that there was no rift between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga.
Mpofu made the remarks at a Zanu PF rally which was addressed by Mnangagwa at Siabuwa in Binga, Matabeleland North province.

There have been reports that the two are leading two factions angling to take over party reins ahead of the elections slated next year.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga

“There have been lies that there is beef between President Mnangagwa and VP Chiwenga. Such lies infuriate me. Mnangagwa likes his party. He loves people he works with. There are lies that Mnangagwa and Chiwenga are fighting,” Mpofu said.

“This is in the minds of insane people and it is not in normal people’s minds. I have never heard the President complaining about his VPs. They are trustworthy people. All of them are war veterans, they were well trained and know the truth about our development.”

He claimed that Mnangagwa loved Matabeleland North province no wonder he paid the region several visits.

“The VPs loves Matabeleland North, they spend a lot of time here. (Kembo) Mohadi was speaking with chiefs recently and Chiwenga was here at the Bulawayo Kraal (Binga) doing development programmes,” Mpofu said.

“We are proud of you, our people. We are proud of our leaders. Chiwenga is a soldier of course, he speaks his mind when he has to reprimand you. We understand each other because we are all soldiers. Soldiers work with truth, not with lies. When the new dispensation started, the first province to be visited by the President was Matabeleland North where we were at Mabale. This has never happened in Matabeleland North, what do we want?”

Mpofu made the remarks while introducing Chiwenga, who later presented Mnangagwa to address supporters at the rally.

Chiwenga described Mnangagwa as the only Munhumutapa in Zimbabwe at the moment.

In his speech, Mnangagwa told party supporters that people should support Zanu PF for development to take place the country.- Newsday

Auditor General Report Exposes Looting Of Government Funds

MASVINGO – Auditor General Mildred Chiri has slammed various Government Departments in Masvingo for their lack of accountability in the use of Covid19 funds released by Government since 2020.

In her report for the period Chiri said there was high probability that funds were abused by departments because of the absence of proper operational guidelines. She said that the inefficient use of the funds could also have contributed to the province becoming one of the hotspots for the pandemic.

She said there were no periodic reports from districts to Provincial Head Offices and this could have seen many ghost workers getting COVID-19 allowances.

“Hence, there was no safeguard against continuous payment of allowances to unconfirmed beneficiaries. Furthermore, no reports were prepared outlining Net One sim cards which were received, but not loaded with money for beneficiaries,” reads part of the audit report.

Masvingo Provincial Social Welfare officer Stanislaus Sanyangowe, confirmed the negative report and said Government departments have since been given guidelines that they are now following when acquitting such funds.

Chari slammed Masvingo Provincial Medical Director (PMD) for receiving and keeping $14.2 million meant for village health workers for three months in the Bank account from September 18, 2020 and was still there on December 10, 2020.

Masvingo PMD, Dr Amadeus Shamu kept asking The Mirror to call back for a comment until the time of going to Press.

The report also queried goods worth $1,128 million bought by the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare from OK, TM and N Richards for Quarantine centres in Masvingo Province without authorised requisitions. The report said this is in contradiction of Section 35 (6) (a) of the Public Finance Management Act [Chapter 22:19] which states that every Accounting Officer shall keep or cause to keep proper records of account.

The audit also says that 5 880 litres of fuel were issued by the government without documented approved requisitions in Masvingo.

The audit noted the abuse of NetOne lines with airtime that were issued to Government workers without proper records. A lot of the lines could not be accounted for.

The report also queried $18 300 paid to 27 discharged inmates on quarantine at Mushagashe. It said that the date of discharge and payment did not correlate.

Social Welfare Officers, Health Personnel and Police determined the amounts given to discharged inmates.

The Auditor General also queried an amount of $6 993 000 raised by Mushagashe Training Centre for payment of accommodation by Social welfare for COVID-19 inmates. The report said there was no standard accommodation rate used for raising such an invoice and there were no supporting documents attached. The number of inmates paid for or the duration that they stayed was also not cited.

Government ended up paying $1 508 500.

Mushagashe Principal could not be reached for comment as his mobile was not reachable.

The auditor general was also not amazed by an isolation centre which was being put up at Ndanga District Hospital but which remains unfinished from May 15, 2020 up to the time of the report. The target for completing the centre which is a maternity wing converted was September 15, 2020.

The total costs incurred as at December 9, 2020 amounted to $581 481, said the report.

“The Isolation Centre was not operational and outstanding works included fencing, toilets and showers, installation of taps, water back up, procurement of oxygen gas pipe and installing an epoxy floor. There were no beds for the whole unit,” said the report.

The report also said that Masvingo Provincial Hospital did not provide justification for using Direct Purchase method when it procured 50 000 bricks on tender 194/2020. The procurement was valued at $890 000.

Masvingo Hospital Public Relations officer Chioniso Gono said she can only comment on the matter after checking with her accounts department. https://masvingomirror.com/

Mermaid Sacrifices Villager ?

A 62-year-old man from Muchatisi Village under Chief Tandi drowned in Rusape Dam on Sunday during a baptism ceremony.

Muzondiwa Jana, who was a new convert of the Nyenyedzi Nomwe Apostolic Sect, drowned while he was being baptised by Ashid Deda, a senior member of the sect.

Jana was a well-known cart-pusher in Rusape and was a member of the Guta RaJehovah (GRJ) church before he joined Nyenyedzi Nomwe Apostolic Sect.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) acting spokesperson in Manicaland Province, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed Jana’s death. He said:

The body of Muzondiwa Jana was retrieved with the assistance of the Sub-aqua Unit near St Joseph’s High School and it has since been positively identified. The matter is still under investigation and the body awaits a post-mortem.

The incident happened on March 13, around 12 when the Nyeredzi Nomwe Apostolic Sect leader, Ashid Deda (65) of Cheneka Village was baptising church members in the dam. Deda baptised Jana who afterwards tried to swim to the banks and drowned.

Efforts to rescue him were in vain. Sect members formed a search party but failed to locate him.

They later notified the police who attended the scene but failed to locate the body. The Sub-aqua Unit attended the scene on Tuesday and retrieved the body.

When Jana’s body could not be found on Monday, locals speculated that he had been taken by a mermaid, an imaginary supernatural creature that allegedly lives in water.

It is believed by some local people that there is a mermaid in Rusape Dam, known as Daniel, who sacrifices one person between March and August every year.

Mutizwa Goal Sinks Kaizer Chiefs

Zimbabwean striker Knox Mutizwa scored the all important goal as Golden Arrows beat Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 in a DStv Premiership match played on Saturday.

Chiefs came into the clash on the back of two consecutive victories and were oozing with confidence after dispatching rivals Orlando Pirates in the Soweto derby last week.

It was Arrows who surged ahead as early as the 5th minute when Mutizwa capitalised on a poor back pass and chipped the ball over an advancing Bruce Bvuma in the Amakhosi goal.

He almost doubled Abafana Bes’thende’s advantage in the 16th minute when another mix up in the Chiefs defence saw Bvuma exposed again but the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper was alert to thwart the danger.

Mutizwa’s Warriors teammate Khama Billiat almost levelled matters for Chiefs just before the half time break but his well-taken shot was blocked.

1-0 it was at the break.

Bernard Parker came the closest to scoring in the second half but he was denied at point blank range but Arrows goalkeeper Nkosingiphile Gumede.

Arrows held on for a remarkable victory in enemy territory.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

DeMbare Fine Run Continues

Dynamos registered their third successive league victory after beating ZPC Kariba on Saturday.

The Glamour Boys won the encounter 2-0, thanks to goals from Emmanuel Paga and Bill Antonio in either half.

The home team set an early pace and opened the scoring as early as in the 6th minute. Paga netted the goal from the spot following a handball inside the box.

Kariba tried to launch a quick response in the following moments but were not sharp to penetrate Dembare’s back line.

The momentum soon slowed down from both ends with meaningful attacks becoming scarce.

The cargey affair continued into the second half but it was the visitors who were now controlling the possession.

Antonio, who had been alive for the majority of the game, sealed the victory for Dynamos in the added time following a quick counter attack.

The result kept the Glamour Boys within the leading pack in third position.

Elsewhere, Ngezi Platinum beat FC Platinum 1-0 through the solitary goal of Macdonald Makuwe in the second half.

Chicken Inn came from behind and beat Black Rhinos 2-1 while Yadah and Bulawayo City played to a goalless draw.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Obesity And Body Systems

World Obesity Day 2022 – Accelerating action to stop obesity

release Reading time: 1 min (360 words)

More than 1 billion people worldwide are obese – 650 million adults, 340 million adolescents and 39 million children. This number is still increasing. WHO estimates that by 2025, approximately 167 million people – adults and children – will become less healthy because they are overweight or obese.

On the occasion of World Obesity Day 2022, WHO is urging countries to do more to reverse this predictable and preventable health crisis.

Obesity is a disease impacting most body systems. It affects the heart, liver, kidneys, joints, and reproductive system. It leads to a range of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension and stroke, various forms of cancer, as well as mental health issues. People with obesity are also three times more likely to be hospitalized for COVID-19.

The key to preventing obesity is to act early, ideally even before a baby is conceived. Good nutrition in pregnancy, followed by exclusive breastfeeding until the age of 6 months and continued breastfeeding until 2 years and beyond, is best for all infants and young children.

At the same time, countries need to work together to create a better food environment so that everyone can access and afford a healthy diet. Effective steps include restricting the marketing to children of food and drinks high in fats, sugar and salt, taxing sugary drinks, and providing better access to affordable, healthy food. Cities and towns need to make space for safe walking, cycling, and recreation, and schools need to help households teach children healthy habits from early on.

WHO is responding to the global obesity crisis on many fronts. This includes monitoring global trends and prevalence, the development of a broad range of guidance addressing the prevention and treatment of overweight and obesity, and providing implementation support and guidance for countries.

Following a request from Member States, the WHO secretariat is developing an acceleration action plan to stop obesity, tackle the epidemic in high burden countries and catalyse global action. The plan will be discussed at the 76 World Health Assembly to be held in May 2022.

ZRP Asks For “Space” Over Madzibaba Veshanduko Torture

Mwonzora This Isn’t Bona And This Isn’t ZBC

BY FACT CHECKING TEAM: A claim by MDC T leader Douglas Mwonzora that the late President Robert Mugabe’s daughter Bona is attending Nelson Chamisa’s rallies, has gone viral.

The allegation was based on a said ZBC picture of a woman alleged to be Bona at a CCC party rally. ZimEye fact checkers can prove that the said woman, is not Bona and the Twitter handle publishing it is not the state broadcaster, ZBC’s.

The handle is a parody and the woman even by her facials, is not Bona Mugabe. Mrs Mugabe-Chikore expressed shock when she learnt of the accusations. The parody posts predominantly jokes about events and incidents in Zimbabwe and has before claimed that the late US envoy Collin Powell was a comrade of Zimbabwe.

E-passport Now Online

By A Corresponent- In a milestone for the country, Zimbabweans can now apply and pay for newly-introduced e-passport online as the booking system has now gone online.

The online passport application system is capable of serving 20 people per every 20 minutes.

Applicants using the online platform similarly pay US$120 for an ordinary passport and US$220 for an emergency document.

An Express Passport Office Centre has since been opened at the Registrar-General’s Office in Harare to specifically handle online applications.

It is believed that the process of applying and collecting a passport can be done in 48 hours compared to seven days for those who apply in person.

Manager of the Express Passport Office Centre Mr Terence Mutemararo told The Sunday Mail that the online application system sought to eliminate congestion at passport offices.

“When the e-passports were launched last year, it was made clear that they will be two categories of applications: One with a seven-day turnaround which we started with and now we have introduced the Express Centre that issues passports in 48 hours from the time of applications,” he said.

The Express Passport Office Centre is considered convenient to the elderly, persons with disabilities and those who need emergency passports.

“The main purpose of the Express Centre is to bring convenience to those who need emergency passports. There are a lot of people that might be working but their time is limited, so they can simply book a time and get the passports at their earliest time of  convenience.

“The major purpose of the online booking is to de-congest this place and make sure that people come at their accorded time slots. It is capable of serving 20 people per every 20 minutes given the number of booths we have and the number of people serving inside,” he said.

The Sunday Mail put the online passport system to a test and was able to easily access the website (expresscentrezw.com), which readily gives instructions on available booking schedules.

It also gives an applicant further instructions to complete the application process.

The online booking system will also be decentralised to other parts of the country as well as in the Diaspora for collection of the passports, officials say.

Acting Registrar-General Mr Henry Machiri said everything was on course to ensure e-passports were obtained from all the country’s 10 provinces by the end of June.

Bulawayo offices are being refurbished and people will start applying for e-passports in the country’s second-largest city in a few weeks.

“In terms of Bulawayo, the technicians are working flat-out and before the end of this month Bulawayo will now be issuing e-passports,” he said.

War Vets Breathe Fire Over ED’s False Promises

By A Correspondent- War veterans have accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government of insincerity, lying and abusing former freedom fighters by falsely promising them money if they campaign for Zanu-PF ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The war veterans told The NewsHawks this week that the announcement by Defence minister Oppah Muchinguri this week that the government was looking into the plight of the ex-combatants and war collaborators was a well-calculated lie to lure them into campaigning for Zanu-PF.

Muchinguri this week said pensions for war veterans are being reviewed upwards to match those of the uniformed forces and the rest of the civil service.

“Government is working tirelessly to improve the welfare of the veterans of the liberation struggle. The pensions are being reviewed and benchmarked with uniformed forces and the rest of the civil service,” Muchinguri said this week.

But the war veterans, who have traditionally campaigned for Zanu-PF in previous elections and have been accused of using violence in the process, particularly in rural areas, insist they will not be used and lied to this time.

“They have always been lying to us saying they gave us shares in mining and companies. They say all sorts of lies to us,” war veterans’ welfare pressure group chairperson Amos Sigauke told The NewsHawks this week.

“We have our case before the courts now where they are refusing to give us money. They have even hired expensive lawyers to defend their case and we wonder why we are not getting our money.”

Thirty-nine war veterans were arrested in October last year and charged with inciting public violence.

The state insists they have a case to answer.

“Why would she (Muchinguri) lie to us like that? They are shameless and we have had enough of their lies,” Sigauke fumed.

Sigauke said the regime has resorted to arresting the ex-freedom fighters for demanding their dues. The timing of the new offer was suspicious and meant to position youths linked to the ruling elite at the feeding trough.

On suspicion that war veterans were being lured to garner support for Zanu-PF ahead of the elections, Sigauke said this time they will not be used.

“If it used to happen before, it will not happen again. The comrades are now wiser. If it used to happen, we will not allow that. That will not happen again, we cannot be used again to serve a purpose to have few people lining their pockets,” Sigauke said.

“We can’t have a handful benefitting from the country’s independence while the rest suffer. We can’t continue having such a situation. In saying they are pushing for some mujibhas to benefit, they want to push their own youths to get in and benefit and get onto the feeding trough ahead of 2023, but war veterans are wiser than that. We cannot have that.”

“They have failed to deliver for the last 41 years. We are not asking for the impossible, all we are asking for are our dues. We are asking for our money which is legally binding but was stolen by some of them. Imagine as we speak 39 of our comrades are before the courts for demanding what is theirs.”

The 39 are on bail with stringent conditions that include reporting every Friday to their nearest police stations.

“Imagine reporting every Friday at our age with the different (health) conditions we have. I personally go for dialysis and if I do not go to report I am arrested. We don’t take that nonsense,” Sigauke said.

“Now they are negotiating with white farmers to compensate them their US$3.5 billion and they did that because they fear them. They are subservient to the whites and where were these people during the war? Most of them ran away from the bush and were in hotels and universities while sacrificing others and they still want to sacrifice war veterans now but we are not going to do that, never again.”

He said Mnangagwa had promised to meet war veterans every April since 2018, but has not done so.

“They lied and in 2018 he said he will meet us every April. How many Aprils have passed since then? We can’t be lied to when he meets whites almost all the time and having dinners and all. Why do they launch their things in hotels and not Zimbabwe Grounds? We can’t be fooled like that. We are wiser than that.”

“We are all war veterans and bigger in our own right and they must not scare us to say shefu says this or that. We are all equal and of the same age, we fought the same war and no one should threaten anyone.”

“Tell me, who is in government now who was not there in 1980? What new things do they want to deliver now that they failed to deliver then? Everyone is crying and it is another way of hoodwinking the people by registering their own youths to benefit from the funds and campaign for them in 2023.”

“They should be sincere and they hired private lawyers to defend against giving us money.”

Muchinguri this week urged war veterans to use the “correct” channels to air their grievances and not resort to confrontation.

War veterans are unhappy with how the Zanu-PF government is treating them. Sources say there was a heated meeting two weeks ago in Manicaland province where the party secretary for war veterans was quizzed by the ex-freedom fighters over the authorities’ insincerity in addressing their grievances.

“During the Manicaland meeting chaired by Mahiya, war veterans were given the platform to share their views.   Some of the issues raised include demands for a congress to elect new leadership,” sources who attended the meeting told The NewsHawks.

“They accused (Christopher) Mutsvangwa and (Douglas) Mahiya of holding them to ransom and using them for their personal gain. They openly demanded unity, the return of exiled G40s and declared that they are prepared to support any movement that has people at heart.”

The war veterans, sources said, raised the issue of welfare, accusing the government of giving them a paltry US$30 a month, no medical aid support and the sudden cutting of fees payment to both schools and institutions of higher learning.

“They accused the ED administration of failing to run the country and vowed not to campaign for ED until their demands are fulfilled.”

Mahiya refused to comment on the meeting.

Chamisa Exposes Mnangagwa Bribery Attempt

By- Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa said that President Emmerson Mnangagwa tried to lure him into a unity government.

The youthful opposition leader said he dined the’s offer and wanted to avoid mistakes made by the late former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.

Zanu PF Thugs Burn-Down Binga Party Leader’s House, Car

By- Zanu PF thugs in Binga burnt down their leader’s house and car as intra-party violence intensified ahead of the next Saturday’s by-elections.

The party leader Emmerson Mnangagwa has since threatened to intervene if party leaders in Matabeleland North Province fail to contain the situation.

Honda Fit Crew Kidnaps Overzealous Cop

By-An overzealous police officer, Constable John Mudimba, almost died in a car crash after a drunk Honda Fit crew allegedly “kidnapped” him and forced him into their vehicle and drove off before hitting a pole.

B-Metro reported a source as saying Mudimba, who is stationed at Hillside Police Station and his three colleagues were assigned to arrest people who were fighting at Hillside Shopping Centre.

When the police officers arrived at the shops, they found Xolani Dube (32) and Trust Manyika fighting and managed to separate the two.

It is alleged that soon after the fight ended, Xolani and his partner grabbed Mudimba and bundled him into their Honda Fit car before they drove off at high speed.

However, when they reached Famona suburb, Xolani lost control of the car and it veered off the road and hit a pole.

Meanwhile, Mudimba escaped unhurt from the incident that left the car extensively damaged.

He then called his colleagues who rushed to the scene and arrested Xolani.

ZEC To Display Names Of Registered Voters At Polling Stations

In a first for the country, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) will from Tuesday display names of voters eligible to vote at particular polling stations. The country will hold by-elections for a number of vacant seats in the National Assembly and various local authorities on Saturday.

The by-elections will see 117 local authority and 28 National Assembly seats up for grabs.

In the last harmonised elections voting was also polling station based but ZEC was not displaying names of voters though individual voters could check their details at selected centres before the election day.

ZEC spokesperson Commissioner Joyce Kazembe told Sunday News yesterday that as part of preparations for the weekend elections, names of people who can vote will be posted at specific polling stations.

“What will be happening now is that by Tuesday we will be posting the list of people that will be voting at the individual polling stations so people can go and view the list and they confirm that their names are there. Our aim is that each polling station caters for 1 000 voters to avoid overcrowding, so in an instance that the station has more than 1 000 voters we will then create another polling station within that polling station,” said Comm Kazembe.

She said the commission was  ready for the by-elections and printing of ballot papers was complete. Comm Kazembe said  ballot papers would soon be distributed to various command centres before their distribution to polling stations in preparation for voting day.

“In terms of staffing we have got people from the Public Service Commission and Local Government as we are mandated to engage them as polling officers. The recruitment has been done and we are satisfied.

“Tomorrow (today) we expect to have the final training of our officers including our police officers, on what will be expected of them after which they will be deployed to the various polling stations in time for the posting of the voters roll so the public can be able to view and verify where they will be voting,” she said.

Comm Kazembe said the $3 billion that had been disbursed to the organisation by government was enough for the elections and so far they had not experienced any notable challenges in the run-up to the elections.

Most of the vacant seats to be contested became vacant following recalls of MDC-Alliance members following a Supreme Court verdict that Mr Nelson Chamisa illegally assumed the leadership of the opposition party.

Judge Approves Chamisa’s Masvingo Rally

Masvingo High Court judge Justice Sunsley Zisengwe yesterday gave the greenlight to the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) to hold a star rally at Rujeko grounds in the city today, overturning an earlier ban by the police.
Police last Thursday stopped the rally claiming they did not have enough manpower as Zanu PF was having two rallies in Masvingo today.

The CCC filed an urgent chamber application at the High Court on Friday evening citing the Masvingo central district Chief Superintendent Simangaliso Dube, police Commissioner General Goodwin Matanga and Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe as respondents respectively.

Zisengwe ruled in favour of the CCC, saying the police ban lacked merit.

The judge also directed the police to seek reinforcements from other stations in the province to provide security at both rallies. CCC district chair Martin Mureri said after the ruling: “I am happy that justice has been served.

“The police lied to me that they had a meeting with me as a convenor. “They produced minutes of the supposed meeting, which did not have my signature. We are happy with the ruling because every party has the right to campaign freely in the country.

“How can they ban the rally when it is the last week of campaigning ahead of the by-elections?”

Mavaza: This Is Why You Must Vote For ED

THE NEW DISPENSATION HAS ACHIEVED SO MUCH IN 3 YEARS.

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | Zimbabweans of all ages are being sold a dummy by the CCC. The opposition has blamed the economic down turn on ZANU PF.

Their campaign has been that ZANU PF has fronted corrupt cadres and is eating in the future of the youth. The youth are being told that they are not employed because ZANU PF has mishandled the economy..

Dr Masimba Mavaza

The opposition in particular Nelson Chamisa has told rally after rally that if he is given Zimbabwe he will develop the country in three months. He told those who were listening that he will have a number of white people rushing to develop Zimbabwe’s economy. This Chamisa said will only be possible if he is elected president of Zimbabwe.

The youth and Zimbabweans at large must step down to reality. Economy can not be improved in three days.
We must realise that since the new dispensation came into office their, most cherished wish and desire ,for which ED and his team laboured with vigour and passion unceasingly ,with firm determination, is to raise the lives of Zimbabweans and create jobs jobs and jobs for every capable person. This is the force which drives ED and he has set a national goal to achieve middle income by 2030. Every hand has been put on the deck with great importance placed on the goal and the desire that our people should attain this goal. This is not only a wish or desire but indeed a possibility. Zimbabwean are having great satisfaction everyday of seeing this goal coming to fruition.
Zimbabweans must realise that development is a process. It has been seen in the work being done by the new dispensation in developing the economy. We must be guided by the Chinese history of economic growth.
Chinese history of growth is not overnight but like China ED is saying we build our own nation. Sanctions will not stop our resilient fighting spirit. Brick by brick we build Zimbabwe. People must not be fooled by the rhetoric being puked by the CCC whose promise is that the West will come running with money.
This is a party with no plan but planning to enter into power with an empty begging bowl.

We must be comforted to know that we are already making inroads in food security through dams and empowering farmers. ED has introduced command agriculture , giving implements and livestock to capable farmers to revamp our ailing economy.
Zimbabwe is now under new management and going through a rigorous economic recovery. Economic recovery is the business cycle stage following a recession that is characterized by a sustained period of improving business activity. Normally, during an economic recovery, gross domestic product (GDP) grows, incomes rise, and unemployment falls as the economy rebounds. Only this month of March the Civil service has employed over ten thousand teachers and nurses. The army has recruited and still recruiting. The police and other security organisations have employed thousands of youth
It must be understood that during an economic recovery, the economy undergoes a process of adaptation and adjustment to new conditions, including the factors that triggered the recession in the first place and the new policies and rules implemented by governments and central banks in response to the recession. So the first two years of the new dispensation things got tough but it was only when things got tough that the tough got going.

The labor, capital goods, and other productive resources that were tied up in businesses that failed and went under during the recession are reemployed in new activities as unemployed workers find new jobs and failed firms are bought up or divided up by others. Recovery is an economy healing itself from the damage done, and it sets the stage for a new expansion.

Expansion is the phase of the business cycle where real gross domestic product (GDP) grows for two or more consecutive quarters, moving from a trough to a peak. Expansion is typically accompanied by a rise in employment, consumer confidence, and equity markets and is also referred to as an economic recovery.
Expansion is the phase of the business cycle when the economy moves from a trough to a peak.Expansions last on average about four to five years but have been known to go on anywhere from 10 months to more than a decade.
Focusing on interest rates and capital expenditure can help investors to determine where we are in the business cycle.
Zimbabwe has had only three years of changing everything from economy to education and at the same time maintaining law and order. Remember all this is done under strict regime of unlawful sanctions.
Zimbabweans must not be fooled. Development is not miracle money it’s a process. Whoever promises overnight change is lying.
We must realise that Economic recovery is the process of reallocating resources and workers from failed businesses and investments to new jobs and uses after a recession or economic down fall.
An economic recovery follows after the recession and leads into a new expansionary business cycle phase.
Leading indicators—such as the stock market, retail sales, and business startups—often rise ahead of an economic recovery.
During an economic recovery, central banks may enact monetary policies aimed at increasing the money supply and encouraging lending.
Market economies experience ups and downs for several reasons. Economies can be impacted by all kinds of factors, including revolutions, financial crises, and global influences. Sometimes these shifts in markets can take on a pattern that can be thought of as a kind of wave or cycle, with distinct stages of an expansion or boom, a peak leading to some economic crisis, a recession, and subsequent recovery. So the past three years ZANU OF has successfully set an economic recovery stage.
ED is a mature person and will not promise a miracle but he will ask you giddy up your loins and fight.
Economic recovery is a war we must all fight. It is not fought by changing governments. It is fought and win by supporting the government.

An economic recovery occurs after a recession as the economy adjusts and recovers some of the gains lost during the recession. The economy then eventually transitions to a true expansion when growth accelerates and GDP starts moving toward a new peak.
This what we are saying vote ZANU PF and witness the great transformation of our country from an impoverished country to a middle income economy.

ED is real and set the full recovery to 2030 which is a realistic goal not fake excited promise made by CCC. We must always remember that the process of recovery takes us up and down.
During a recession, many businesses fail and go out of business, and many of those that survive cut back activities to reduce costs in the face of decreased demand for their output. Workers often get laid off and business assets get sold piecemeal. Sometimes business owners are forced to liquidate an entire business.
Some of these capital assets end up in the hands of other businesses, sometimes even brand new businesses, that can put them to productive use. Sometimes these are very similar to their previous uses, and sometimes these are totally new lines of business. This process of sorting capital goods into new combinations, under new ownership, at new prices after they have been released from failed businesses or business cutbacks in the recession, is the essence of economic recovery.

Businesses usually need to deal with a leaner credit environment relative to the easy credit days of the boom that preceded the recession. They may need to implement new technologies and organizational forms. Almost always, the government fiscal and regulatory environment that businesses operate under changes from the boom to the recession and recovery.

Zimbabweans need to have change of mindset of looking to West for help. Zambia changed president but there is no flocking of investors. Tanzania changed presidents but there is no white men rushing in with wards of cash. The promises presented by Chamisa are not real. In actual fact he does not understand the developments ushered in by ZANU PF. He sees them as failures. The coming elections are a test if our foresight as a nation.
ED and Zanu-PF has pulse of development and changing geopolitics favors ZANU PF because of sanctions saddled on us.

The efforts made to expand educational opportunities in the country and to protect the national unity of our people has been met without fail. Our people have benefited from the rights and privileges embodied in the constitution. In spite of past and continuous attempts of certain alien enemies to create differences based on tribalism and political affiliation, the Zimbabwe people will fight a successful struggle against these forces of evil and thus preserve their National unity.

The rise and fall of economic growth is not a completely random, unexplainable phenomenon. Like the weather, the economy is believed to follow a cyclical path that continues to repeat itself over time.

As we make a decision on whom to vote for we must remember that ED is no1:

In the end, the recovery can change the patterns of economic activity in an economy, sometimes drastically and sometimes in barely noticeable ways. The economy heals the damage during the preceding parts of the business cycle by reallocating, reusing, and recycling resources into new uses, in an analogous way to how the body breaks down dead and damaged tissue in order to produce new, healthy cells and tissues after an injury.
Importantly, in order for the process of recovery to proceed, it is critical that the business and investment liquidations of the recession are carried out and the resources tied up in them are allowed to flow to new uses and new businesses.

Eventually, this process of recovery leads to a new phase of growth and expansion once resources have been mostly or fully reallocated across the economy. This can be seen in the dissolution programs.

This is the time the youth see the truth. There will never be a miracle recovery. ZANU OF has set the recovery going.
If you want to be employed soon allow ED to finish what he started. Vote ZANU OF and help Zimbabwe claim its bread basket position.

Zimbabwe is the only country which we can call ours.

Dangers Of Obesity

CCC Condemns Police Barbarism

Tinashe Sambiri|Citizens’ Coalition For Change (Namibia) has described the harassment and torture of innocent civilians by overzealous police details as shocking.

CCC popular supporter Godfrey Karembera ( Madzibaba VeShanduko) was arrested and tortured by ZRP cops in Harare on Thursday.

See below CCC Namibia full statement:
Solidarity is a core value in social democracy, CCC Namibia absolutely condemns police brutality.

18 March 2022

Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia seriously demands an end to state sanctioned violence against unarmed innocent citizens who subscribe to the Yellow Revolution. The arbitrary arrest and torture of the number one supporter of Citizens Coalition For Change Godfrey Karembera is criminal, satanic, illegal and unconstitutional therefore it must be resisted with equal measure. The barbaric stone age perpetrators of politically motivated violence should end now!

It is quite pathetic that our people are being butchered for wearing the yellow regalia. Our rallies are being banned a few days before the impending by-elections due on the 26 March 2022. What yellow revolutionaries should know is that the time to retaliate against state sponsored violence is now! It’s no longer time to fold our hands in the face of police brutality and Zanupf militia’s shenanigans which saw our change champion Mboneni Ncube losing his dear in Kwekwe, may his dear soul rest in power. This is what earns us a totalitarian tag and tarnishes the reputation of our great country.

The incessant ZanuPF sponsored violence and human butchery call for citizens to peacefully act against the futile attempt to annihilate the alternative led by the Change Champion Commander-In- Chief President Advocate Nelson Chamisa. Our inspiring member Madzibaba Veshanduko who had been terribly assaulted on his back by the diabolic Zimbabwe Republic Police for wearing his yellow regalia. It is now imperative to stop ZanuPF thugs and remote controlled police from harassing our fellow change champions in Zimbabwe. Our message to Mr Mnangagwa is that no amount of torture will defeat the resolve to fight for socio-economic transfiguration. This must be resisted with equal measure!

Furthermore, the attack on our prospective councillor for Umzingwane ward 20 Thokozile Dube by ZanuPF thugs must be roundly condemned.

Last month, these thugs unleashed their habitual violence on the innocent Citizens Coalition For Change candidate.

This gender based violence against women must be confronted seriously ,the articulate national spokesperson Advocate Fadzayi Mahere was also attacked by these marauding ZanuPF thugs on her way from church. As if that is not enough, the Citizens Coalition For Change trio Hon Joana Mamombe, fearless Youth Commander Cecilia Chauya Chauya Chimbiri and Netsai Marova are attending a series court hearings on trumped up charges. The three endured state sponsored abductions. They were sexually abused at the hands of ZanuPF thugs. This satanism must be stopped by citizens action for change.

Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia Rundu Branch Secretary General Simbarashe Ndoda echoed that violence and gross abuse of human rights will never convert people to the compelled alternative. He went on to condemn in absolute terms the continued closure of Democratic space in Zimbabwe and urged citizens to smell the coffee. The branch organiser, Lawrence Chiduku clearly stated that violence actually plants revolutionary seeds for vengeance and concretises the appetite and resolve to keep on embracing dangerous freedom against peaceful slavery.

Namibia district appeals to SADC, African Union and United Nations to act on this cowardly and despicable act of beating and killing citizens for wearing yellow. It is Godfrey Karembera’s fundamental basic human right to belong to a political formation of his choice. The vicious torture and brutal assault perpetrated by ZanuPF on political activists, journalists and human rights defenders must be condemned nationally, regionally, continentally and internationally hence the voices of these organisations should be audibly heard addressing this barbarism.

How can we expect free , fair and credible by-elections not forgetting the anticipated peaceful harmonised elections to be held after 14 months when our people are being tortured, killed and intimidated 9 days before elections? We demand action for comprehensive political, constitutional and electoral reforms because Zec is taking instructions from the Shake Shake Building. Zec must reform or be disbanded before 2023. Our agenda is clear that 2022 is a year of Citizens’Action for change.

In a nutshell, Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia’s message to all Yellow Revolutionaries is that citizens must continue and escalate their quest for universal basic freedoms. The spirit of Gokwe and Marondera should be an enthusiastic inspiration to all change champions in Zimbabwe and abroad. The message is clear, register to vote, vote for change and defend the vote. Namibia district is committed and dedicated to prosecute the national democratic revolution to its logical conclusion. We remain ever ready to submit ourselves before we surrender the Yellow Movement to ZanuPF Satanists.

VP Chiwenga Says Zanu PF Has Already Won By-elections

Gvt Admits That Zimbos Have Lost Confidence In Local Currency

By A Correspondent- Government has all but admitted that Zimbabweans have lost confidence in the local currency, saying it was aware people were trooping to the black market to buy foreign currency to avoid a repeat of 2008 where hyperinflation eroded their savings.

Finance deputy minister Clemence Chiduwa told Parliament on Thursday that government was witnessing a massive switch by Zimbabweans to the black market to buy United States dollars to hedge against losses.

“What really is driving the black market rate? These are behavioural legacy issues to say we encountered this in 2008 and we are using the US dollar as a store of value. The moment someone gets a Zimbabwe dollar, they immediately change it to US dollar,” Chiduwa said.

“People are saying the moment I get money I should convert it to US dollars, but because of benchmark pricing it has filtered to pricing models in the shops where you see that the pricing model is now following the parallel market rate,” Chiduwa added.

“As a result of that, it is now affecting the livelihoods of our people. We have said in order to cushion our people as we try to get long term solutions, we have come up with the payment that we are now giving to civil servants in US dollars.”

Said Chiduwa: “We are equally worried about the movement in the exchange rate. We have said before that the movement in the exchange rate, especially on the parallel market, is not linked to fundamentals.

“You look at government expenditure vis-à-vis the revenue that we are generating as Treasury. Since November 2018 we have not borrowed from the central bank. We live within our means. As a government, we are very clear in terms of where we are going.

“You cannot run a country without a monetary leg. The proper management of a country in terms of economic management requires both fiscal and monetary policy.”

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government re-introduced the Zimbabwe dollar in June 2019 after abolishing a multi-currency regime which had been in place since 2009.

Critics at the time accused the government of rushing the introduction of the local unit without necessary economic reforms and backing of foreign currency reserves.

Mnangagwa has been under pressure to dollarise, with teachers in particular, staying away from work citing incapacitation. Civil servants are receiving US$175 against their demands for US$540 which they used to earn in 2018.

There is also disgruntlement in the private sector where employees are agitating for US dollar salaries.

The Zimbabwe dollar is trading at US$1 to $260 at the black market and US$1 to $135 on the auction system.

Mnangagwa has said there is no going back to dedollarisation while Finance minister Mthuli Ncube recently announced a number of measures to stabilise the local currency.-Newsday

ZRP Compensates Police Brutality Victims

By A Correspondent- Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe and police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga have “hastily”paid $300 000 as compensation to two victims of police brutality to avoid imprisonment for contempt of court.

Matanga and Kazembe had failed to pay the damages within the set timeframe, resulting in the victims filing two court applications on March 3 and 4 seeking the arrest of the two for contempt of court.

In a report yesterday, the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights said Kazembe, Matanga and Constable Zwelibanzi Masuko had reneged on paying compensation to Rusape resident, Unity Saunyama after he was mauled by a dog set upon him by the police.

“During the trial, Saunyama told magistrate Rufaro Mangwiro that Masuko approached him at a beerhall in Rusape on August 29, 2019 and made an inquiry about his personal details to which Saunyama obliged. Masuko proceeded to drag Saunyama out of the beerhall and thereafter made shocking allegations to the effect that the 40 year-old man was in possession of marijuana,” the report read in part.

“In response, Saunyama advised Masuko to conduct a body search on him. However, instead of conducting a body search, Masuko set his police dog on him and he sustained injuries which include two deep lacerations on his right ankle and a deep wound on his right thigh as a result of several dog bites.”

Mangwiro ruled that Saunyama suffered undue harm and ordered the police to pay him $150 000 damages.

In another case, Mutare magistrate Lazarus Murendo directed the police to pay 18-year-old Ernest Jamela $151 191 damages for torture while in police custody.

“Jamela was assaulted upon arrest and detention by  one Mazambani, who was infamously known as the “Lion of Judah” in the community for disproportionate use of brute force in a case where the victim, then a 15-year-old minor in 2019 and resident in Sakubva high-density suburb in Mutare, was assaulted on two consecutive days on March 4 and 5 2019 during police investigations of theft of a mobile phone handset at his school,” the rights group said.-Newsday

Human Rights Group Petitions Parliament

By A Correspondent- A Matabeleland human rights group has petitioned Parliament to probe ongoing displacement of villagers in the region without compensation to pave way for mining operations.

The Matabeleland Institute for Human Rights (MIHR) submitted the petition through Bulawayo Central legislator Nicola Watson on Thursday.

The petition is titled Towards an Inclusive Human Rights based on National Compensation and Relocation Framework on Development-Induced relocation framework on development.

MIHR co-ordinator Khumbulani Maphosa said the villagers were being evicted without compensation.

“When eviction is unavoidable and necessary for the promotion of general welfare, the State must provide or ensure fair and just compensation for any losses of personal, real or other property or goods including rights or interests in property,” Maphosa said.

In Binga, villagers face eviction to pave way for the Gwayi Shangani Dam construction and a coal mining project. In Hwange, villagers are up in arms over threats to evict them for a Chinese coal mining venture. There are reports in other parts of the country where villagers are facing eviction from their ancestral lands.-newsday

UBH’s Paediatric Unit Reopens

By A Correspondent- United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) chief executive officer Harrison Rambanapasi yesterday said the institution’s paediatric unit which reopened after 17 years of closure is functioning well with over 10 patients admitted.

The unit was re-opened in January and increased the number of beds from 15 to 60.

Prior to its opening, all paediatric cases from southern region were being referred to Mpilo Central Hospital.

Rambanapasi told Southern Eye that the number of patients being admitted at the unit was increasing gradually.

In January, UBH revealed that it had recruited two paediatric doctors.

The unit was closed due to a shortage of specialists.

The new specialist doctors would be assisted by 11 other doctors at the hospital, a situation which Rambanapasi said would reduce the workload and allow for the admission of more patients.

The reopening of the unit came after the health institution received equipment worth more than US$150 000 from Rotary Club International.-newsday

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has lost the support of some of his key allies including Local Government minister July Moyo who have stood with him throughout his political rise but are now being sidelined in favour of new faces.

Observers say the Zanu-PF leader may find himself isolated as fresh fights for the party leadership take centre stage ahead of the December congress.

Mnangagwa and his ambitious deputy, Constantino Chiwenga, are embroiled in a fight for the control of the party ahead of the congress and subsequently the 2023 elections and, in that race, the grassroots have been deeply divided and are at war.

Although the fights have been temporarily shelved for the party to concentrate on the 26 March by-elections, insiders have warned that it will be gloves off immediately after the polls.

But in the fight, insiders said, Mnangagwa is now without key loyalists who stood with him in successive fights, including Moyo and  former State Security minister Owen Ncube, among others. Moyo has stood by Mnangagwa’s since the 1990s.

He supported his bid to become national party chairperson in 1999, eventually losing out to John Nkomo, and his bid for the vice-presidency at the 2004 congress, which post however went to Joice Mujuru.

Moyo has also stood with Mnangagwa, sacrificing his own career in the process, after failing out of favour with Mugabe. Moyo was also with Mnangagwa ahead of the 2014 congress when he became vice-president.

The Local Government minister and Zanu-PF secretary for transport and welfare also played a crucial role ahead of the November 2017 military coup that ousted Mugabe and his allies. Moyo stood with Mnangagwa through thick and thin, but felt he was not rewarded enough.

Moyo is believed to have been the force behind Ncube, who was accused by some in the Midlands of pushing his own partisan agenda. Mnangagwa believes Ncube was militating against his power consolidation project and, in the process, wittingly or unwittingly strengthening Chiwenga’s base.

The Local Government minister’s fallout with Mnangagwa has been consistently exposed by Norton member of Parliament Temba Mliswa who accused him and Ncube of working against the Zanu-PF leader.

A party insider close to Moyo insist that he was unhappy with the manner in which Mnangagwa was aligning with other people and pushing his “real people” away.

“He has been with Mnangagwa for long and fought many of his battles in the ’90s when he was trying to be the party chairman, in 2004 when he was vying for the party vice-president’s post way until 2014 when he finally became vice-president and ahead of the 2017 military coup. He felt he did a lot but got little reward,” an insider said.

Moyo was among the many prominent politicians like Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda and Manicaland’s Mike Madiro, among others, who fought in his corner and were ultimately fired by Mugabe ahead of the 2004 congress.

Zanu-PF’s current secretary for Finance Patrick Chinamasa was also among those who have supported Mnangagwa since the 2004 power-grab attempt and even during the 2017 coup, but is reportedly unhappy with what he got in return.

Chinamasa joins a growing list of other unhappy bigwigs now housed at Zanu-PF headquarters, including secretary for administration Obert Mpofu.

Ncube was Mnangagwa’s blue-eyed boy for long in the Midlands province  particularly in Kwekwe where he employed all sorts of tactics, including violence, to ensure Mnangagwa retained the status of Zanu-PF provincial godfather. He then used the Midlands and Masvingo as stepping stones to national political power.

But in a surprise turn of events, Mnangagwa fired Ncube this year, accusing him of behaviour inconsistent with ministerial office.

Insiders told The NewsHawks that a team was appointed to probe the Ncube matter and a report is being finalised while his allies are pushing for Mnangagwa to retain him in cabinet.

In the Midlands, Mnangagwa is said to have installed people many believe lack the political clout to win him votes.

Mnangagwa is also accused within Zanu-PF and the military circles of breaking a “coup coalition” and surrounding himself with people who are mainly his relatives and cronies at the expense of those who stood with him.

Mnangagwa is said to have disregarded an agreement that Chiwenga to serve only a single term and not go beyond 2023. Immediately after getting into power, he launched a blitz against several army chiefs, among them Anselem Sanyatwe who was a commander Presidential Guard and played a key role in the late former president Robert Mugabe’s ouster in a military coup in November 2017.

Sanyatwe was appointed ambassador to Tanzania while another army chief, the late Douglas Nyikayaramba, was deployed to Mozambique.

Mnangagwa has reportedly divided the war veterans who are also said to be unhappy with him for failing to reward them enough — even though they vigorously campaigned for his ascendancy during the Mugabe days.

War veterans feel only their leader Christopher Mutsvangwa, their party secretary Douglas Mahiya and Victor Matemadanda were rewarded enough at the expense of the rank and file of ex-combatants.

Matemadanda was later demoted from the powerful positions of Zanu-PF national political commissar and Defence deputy minister, becoming ambassador to Mozambique where he replaced Nyikayaramba.

The fears of serious fights have been buoyed by reports of combative former Zanu-PF national political commissar Savior Kasukuwere’s “imminent” return to challenge for the party leadership. This comes amid reports the former Local Government minister is relishing massive grassroots support from the party structures and the youths who are unhappy with the party’s current state of affairs.

Zanu-PF is also reportedly worried that the structures of the vanquished G40 faction which were created and strengthened during the Mugabe era were still intact on the ground. These elements could align with a host of disgruntled party activists who feel they were robbed during the party’s provincial restructuring last December.

Kasukuwere would not immediately confirm reports of his imminent return. But his honchos, already on the ground, said it was all systems go for his comeback which they claimed has the backing of some bigwigs within the ruling party.

There is speculation “Tyson”, as Kasukuwere is nicknamed in Zanu-PF, is coming back to manage the tribal imbalance in the party that has angered several bigwigs including Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga who accuse Mnangagwa of filling the key portfolios in cabinet, the party and parastatals with his Karanga clique.

“He is coming back,” a source close to Kasukuwere said. “2023 shall be exciting and someone is going out,” the source added.

Kasukuwere sparked further anxiety after posting a picture purportedly in Nyanga indicating he was now back in the country.

“Beautiful country, Nyanga,” Kasukuwere posted.

He would not shed light when The NewsHawks contacted him for comment.

Fears of fresh fissures, insiders confirmed, were also fuelled by a Central Intelligence Organisation report that projected Zanu-PF’s probability of winning the 2023 elections at a low 45%. The report cited supporters’ disgruntlement with internal election outcomes and Mnangagwa’s failure to deliver after the 2017 military coup.

There are also serious fights for the control of the party in the Midlands, Manicaland, Matabeleland North, Mashonaland West and Mashonaland Central provinces, among other areas, with the party structures deeply divided along factional lines.

In the Midlands, Mnangagwa’s backyard, supporters of former National Security minister Owen Ncube are still questioning why he was blocked from contesting for the post of provincial chairperson and subsequently fired from his cabinet post.

Fights are also rife in Manicaland where a camp linked to Albert Nyakuedzwa is

bitter over the controversial endorsement of Mike Madiro’s “victory” by the politburo in total disregard of those who claim he lost the internal elections. Nyakuedzwa and others have lodged complaints.

Richard Ndlovu, who lost in Matabeleland North, has also complained to the national political commissar Mike Bimha.

In Harare, Mliswa warned of fresh fissures in Zanu-PF, saying the party was failing to handle internal dynamics shaped by provincial and primary elections which have left the party weakened ahead of the 26 March by-elections.

“Instead of Zanu-PF focusing on impinging the opposition’s operations, it should be focusing on dealing with internal strife that threatens the party’s candidates such as Epworth’s Zaleriah Makari. Already, there are fatal fissures there which need urgent attention,” Mliswa, who claims to keenly know Zanu-PF’s internal dynamics, said on microblogging site Twitter.

“If Zanu-PF is to win Epworth, the party needs to reconcile these people and bring them together,” Mliswa said before listing disgruntled people in the area.

In Mashonaland West, there are fights over the control of the party with a group aligned to Mary Mliswa-Chikoka arguing she did not win fairly while similar fights have erupted in Mashonaland Central and Masvingo provinces.

But Zanu-PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa rubbished claims that the party faces imminent implosion amid panic over the purported return of G40.

“We are strong, we never were affected by anything. We have one leader and the parties that easily split are the MDCs. They have been MDC, MDC-T now Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC). Zanu-PF never breaks, so why speak of imagination?”

On G40, he said: “Where do they want to come back? It is a pipedream and we do not take it seriously. They were kicked out and will never make it again.”

“They have absolutely no structures in the party. Their only structure was Grace Mugabe and when she lost they lost and that is why they are still in the wilderness and the country is marching on,” he said.

“Why are they in exile in the first place? Nobody chased them away and if you are afraid on your own how will they muster the courage to take over the party. They are cowards and how can cowards try to usurp power?”

“The fear is within them so if you can’t overcome fear within yourself, how can you then say you can organise a party? Kasukuwere came and left on his own, the other kingpin Grace is here and nobody touches here. Her daughter, Bona, is every other day going to State House to see the President — you can ask her. Which G40 kingpins are bigger than Grace?”
