A Zimbabwean court has ordered Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Hon. Kazembe Kazembe and Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga to pay more than ZWL500 000 to two Beitbridge residents who were mauled by police dogs in 2020.
The two Beitbridge residents Edmund Zeyazeya and Benson Tavengwa sued Kazembe and Matanga for damages amounting to ZWL3 million and ZWL1 million after they severely bitten by a police dog on 1 August 2020 at a fuel station in the border town by law enforcement agents, who were enforcing national lockdown regulations.
ZRP officers arrested the duo to cover up for their negligence in handling the police dog and charged them with disorderly conduct in a public place as defined in Section 41 of the Criminal law (Codification and Reform) Act.
Zeyazeya and Tawengwa were offered the option to pay a fine of which they did and they were released on the same day of arrest. Through their lawyer Patrick Tererai of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, they later on challenged the conviction that was made based on the fine which they paid and sought an order for the refund of their money and the order was granted in September 2020.
Aggrieved by the police conduct, the two residents, who suffered severe injuries of varying degrees and had to be detained for a number of days in hospital, filed summons on 4 December 2020 at Beitbridge Magistrates Court demanding payment amounting to ZWL3 million for Zeyazeya and ZWL1 million for Tawengwa as compensation for violation of their rights.
Lawyers representing ZRP recently agreed to pay ZWL$425 000 to Zeyazeya and ZWL85 000 to Tavengwa as damages arising from the unlawful conduct by ZRP officers.
By A Correspondent| Constitutional law experts Professor Lovemore Madhuku and Dr Alex Magaisa have once again clashed over the interpretation of the constitution.
This follows President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s claim in a High Court affidavit that he is immune to civil and criminal prosecution.
In different comments made to a local daily, Magaisa said Presidential immunity did not apply in the Sybeth Musengezi’s High Court challenge in which he is suing the ruling Zanu PF and its leader for breaching the party constitution when he assumed power post November 2017 coup.
Magaisa said the issues cited by Mnangagwa that he was immune from prosecution were a “sideshow” that did not affect the fundamentals of the case.
He cited the 2018 High Court case of Elias Mashavira against the MDC-T, in which Nelson Chamisa was declared illegitimate leader of the opposition party, as having set precedence for Musengezi’s application.
“The case does not stand/fall on his (Mnangagwa’s) immunity. Musengezi sued Zanu PF, Mnangagwa and other party officers. Let’s assume for a moment that Mnangagwa’s immunity defence is valid, it doesn’t apply to Zanu PF and the other parties. They must answer the lawsuit and they must decide whether their conduct was lawful.
“The outcome will still be consequential upon Mnangagwa. Musengezi is relying on the (Elias) Mashavira case against the MDC-T. Just like Mashavira, Musengezi sued the party and its officers. The Mashavira court directed party officers to correct past irregularities of the party,” said Magaisa.
Magaisa was supported by another law expert Tawanda Mapuranga who said even though the Constitution had provisions of the President’s immunity, it did not change the nature of the application before the courts.
But Madhuku said there was no chance that the High Court would rule that Mnangagwa is not immune.
“Section 98(1) states that while in office, a President is not liable to civil or criminal proceedings in any court for things done or omitted in his or her personal capacity. There is no chance for the court to give a different interpretation of section 98,” he said.
“The question, which may arise is, what is meant by his personal capacity. But then, according to the constitutional provision, let’s take for instance, if his wife wants to file for divorce, she cannot do so during the period he is in power. She will have to wait for the President to step down, and then file for proceedings. When the court upholds section 98(1), it will be the collapse of the case.” said Madhuku.
Madhuku and Magaisa have previously clashed over interpretation of the constitution following the resignation of vice President Kembo Mohadi.
Magaisa said Mnangagwa was supposed to inform Parliament of Mohadi’s resignation but Madhuku shot it down saying since he was a Presidential appointee just like cabinet ministers, there was no need for such.
Madhuku further noted that only when the running clause comes into effect is the President expected to notify Parliament Parliament the resignation of his deputy.
By A Correspondent- The Home Affairs ministry will embark on a countrywide exercise to register eligible voters in preparation for the 2023 general election, Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe has said.
He said this while speaking at the official opening of Guruve District Registry, where he promised to open more such offices throughout the country to shorten the distances rural communities travel in order to access national documents.
“The department will soon be embarking on a countrywide exercise to ensure every eligible voter is registered and documented in preparation for the 2023 plebiscite,” Kazembe said.
“This will be done in consultation with the traditional and community leadership. Government attaches great importance to civil registration because it captures accurate data necessary for national development.
“It is a legal requirement that every child be registered within 42 days of birth. A birth certificate is, therefore, an essential legal document for securing recognition of individuals before the law and safeguards their human rights and access to basic social services.”
Kazembe said some of the challenges faced in the acquisition of registration documents were exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which created a backlog in civil registrations.
“The situation is, however, soon going to be corrected through the engagement of a partner, which is set to see the production of passports, identity cards and birth certificates en masse, beginning December 2021,” he said.
“Decentralisation of passport issuance services to districts has begun with Chitungwiza already operational. Beitbridge and Zvishavane will soon be coming on stream.”
Kazembe said the Guruve registry offices was earmarked for passport issuance, adding that the Registrar-General’s Office had been on mobile registration exercises in disaster prone areas, and reaching out to the San community in Matabeleland South province, and other marginalised areas such as Binga.
“The ceremony today demonstrates government’s commitment to improve on service delivery, which will result in cost saving on transport and reduction on the distances citizens travel to access services,” he said. “Plans are afoot to establish more registry offices to further reduce the distance people travel to access our services.”-NewsdayZimbabwe
By A Correspondent- Former Zanu-PF finance secretary, Ignatius Chombo has ignored a High Court application filed by a Zanu-PF youth, Sybeth Musengezi seeking the nullification of Zanu-PF’s 19th November 2017 special session Central Committee meeting.
At the meeting, President Emmerson Mnangagwa was elected president, but in his court challenge, Musengezi was the process was null and void.
Chombo, Zanu-PF as a party, Mnangagwa, Zanu-PF administration secretary Obert Mpofu, acting political commissar Patrick Chinamasa, and former Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko, are cited as respondents in the court challenge.
Chombo was expected to file his opposing papers before Friday while another respondent in the high profile, Mphoko is left with six days to file his opposing affidavit.
Mpofu and Chinamasa filed their affidavits last Friday.
However, Musengezi’s lawyer, Nqobani Sithole Sunday confirmed with NewZimbabwe.com Chombo had failed to beat the deadline while Mphoko still had a few more days to file his opposing papers.
What it, therefore, means is that those respondents who have failed to file opposing papers are in agreement with our application while those who have defended are not agreeable to the application,” Sithole said.
Following the November 17 2017 military coup which ousted longtime ruler Robert Mugabe from office, Chombo was arrested while Mphoko briefly sought political asylum in Botswana before he come back.
Mphoko was later arrested on charges of criminal abuse of office after he allegedly instructed some junior police officers to release arrested former Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) acting chief executive, Moses Juma.
The matter is pending before the courts.
Last month, Chombo was acquitted by a Harare magistrate for several charges he was facing for abuse of public office while he was the Local Government Minister.
Musengezi is arguing the November 2017 Zanu-PF central committee meeting, which appointed Mnangagwa as the party’s president and the first secretary was in violation of the party’s Constitution and, therefore, unlawful and null and void.
By A Correspondent- Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa is said to be having sleepless nights over reports that former Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere is working with his senior party members to unseat him.
This came out after Kasukuwere had been named in court papers as the person behind a recent push to dislodge President Emmerson Mnangagwa from power.
In an affidavit, ZANU PF’s Harare provincial chairperson Goodwills Masimirembwa claimed that Sybeth Musengezi, who challenged Mnangagwa’s ascendancy to power, was planted by Kasukuwere to cause chaos. Masimirembwa said:
lt is believed, on investigation by the district coordinating committee security that reports to me as chairman of DCC 4 Harare and also acting chairman of the Harare Province, that Applicant was “planted” into the relevant district, without the relevant credentials for political and other reasons by the former secretary for the commissariat Saviour Kasukuwere, with whom he is allegedly related.
Kasukuwere, who was forced into exile during the 2017 coup, is now being touted in some ZANU PF circles as Mnangagwa’s potential replacement in light of intensifying factional wars in the ruling party.
Mnangagwa wants the High Court to throw out Mausengezi’s application arguing that the challenge will reverse the gains he is making as Zimbabwe’s leader.
In an answering affidavit submitted on his behalf by ZANU PF secretary for administration, Obert Mpofu, Mnangagwa also wants the court to throw out the application because a sitting president cannot be tried. Mpofu’s affidavit reads in part:
In this regard, it is common cause that the government led by His Excellency the President ED Mnangagwa has undertaken reforms to the economy through the Transitional Stabilisation Programme (2018-2020) and now the National Development Strategy, which have stabilised the economy, brought inflation down from 837% in June 2020 to 55% presently; it has brought economic growth estimated by the government to be approximately 7,80/0 for 2020-2021, the highest level of growth in Africa and supported by figures from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
It cannot be sensible or convenient for this Honourable court to be invited to upset these national programmes, at the whim of some unknown figure, whose background and credentials are suspect and boarder on factional political interests as alluded to in the supporting affidavits from (Masimirembwa).
Musengezi, who is represented by lawyer Nqobani Sithole, wants the High Court to declare the November 19, 2017, Zanu PF central committee meeting that confirmed Mnangagwa as acting party president “unlawful and null and void”.
By A Correspondent- MORE than 20 armed robbers raided the construction site of businessman Dr Philip Chiyangwa’s multi-million dollar property development of Kirkman Mall in Westlea, Harare, early yesterday morning and got away with building materials worth over US$300 000, in what is believed to be an inside job. The gang attacked and injured about eight of Dr Chiyangwa’s employees and security guards before loading the roofing sheets, sewer and water pipes, among other materials at the site, into a lorry.
The development is on 5,4 hectares and is nearing completion. It comprises a shopping mall and an industrial and commercial park with units for sale to small and medium enterprises. The first phase of the development involves premises for TM Pick n Pay, Xmart and Choppies, and is now almost finished. Dr Chiyangwa has since offered a reward for anyone with information that might lead to the arrest of the culprits involved, who he said were trying to derail development on one of his projects. “The culprits must be arrested and face the music because what they did was inhumane. Imagine attacking my security guards and employees before tying both their hands with wires.
“As a result most of them were seriously injured and what they did was cruel. I am one of the largest domestic investors in the country and they are derailing me,” he said. Yesterday, police were still on the ground. Four of the armed robbers held hostage the employees for over four hours while others in the gang were loading the building materials into an unidentified truck. One of the employees, Mr Phillimon Mandizvidza, said on Saturday at around 10pm, he heard someone knocking on the door to the room where he was sleeping. “After the knock, the gang then forcibly opened the door and gained entry into the house before they started manhandling me. They then gagged me with a cloth while a wire was used to tie my hands,” he said. “The robbers then went on to forcibly open another door to gain entry into a room where the other employees were sleeping. They were also attacked and had both hands tied before being forced to lie facing downwards while at the same time being interrogated.
“We were bundled inside one of these rooms and I could hear some activities taking place outside. I suspect that they had a truck which they used to load their loot before they later drove off,” said Mr Mandizvidza. Dr Chiyangwa’s son, Brian, said he received a phone call around 2am from one of the builders who resides in Stoneridge Park informing him that all was not well at the mall. He then alerted officers at Mabelreign Police Station who later rushed to the scene, but the gang had already disappeared into the night.
…I told them not to go inside the fuel tank while cleaning the petrol tankers, but they both did not listen…
A 19-year-old from Pumula South in Bulawayo suffocated while his cousin was hospitalised after they went into a fuel tank to clean it in Kelvin North industrial site on Saturday.
Onesisa Ncube died on the spot while Mr Alpha Mathe (21) was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital where he was treated and discharged. Mr Mathe lost consciousness only to recover at the hospital.
Their uncle, Mr Feleki Mathema, a mechanic by profession, told Chronicle that he secured a part time job for the two to clean trucks.
Mr Mathema said as a family of Seventh Day Adventists, they were not working during the day on Saturday and the boys moved on site after 6pm.
He said he had told them not to go inside the fuel tank while cleaning the petrol tankers, but they both did not heed his advice.
Mr Mathema said he received a call at about 8PM to rush to the industrial site as there was an emergency.
“I sped to the scene and upon arriving I found fire brigade vehicles on site. Already my gut was telling me something was wrong. They told me that one of the boys had been rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital. I guess it was a way to get me settled before they then informed me that the other one who is 19 years of age had suffocated inside a fuel tank,” he said.
Mr Mathema said before they went to work, he had emphasised to them not to enter the tank.
He said the petrol tanker driver had initially called him asking if he was going to come and pick the boys up.
“I told him that the contract we had is that when the boys were on the job, the driver is the one who should bring them home. So, he said he asked the boys to come the following day to finish up the job. But they insisted that they wanted just 30 minutes to do the job. Within 45 minutes of receiving the call, my boy was gone,” he said.
Mourners at a funeral wake for the late Onesisa Ncube who suffocated while cleaning a fuel tanker
Mr Mathema said when Mr Mathe regained consciousness at the hospital he kept asking for Onesisa.
He said yesterday morning they quizzed him on what had really transpired.
“He told us that he was the first one to enter the petrol tanker. But he felt he was suffocating and exited. But Onesisa then laughed at him as weak, and he entered the tank as well and within a few minutes he was suffocating,” he said.
“Unfortunately, the older one was still to recover from the petrol that he had inhaled, he called for help but the person who came refused to go inside the tank. He (Mr Mathe) entered the tank but he was already too weak to lift the boy out. He then requested to be pulled out of the tank. And that is how he survived. He was rushed to the hospital unconscious and had to be put on oxygen on his way.”
Mr Mathema, who seemed to blame himself for the tragic loss of his nephew, kept on reiterating that he had emphasised to them never to go into the tank.
He said he even asked them to do the work yesterday but they insisted on going on Saturday.
“For instance, the person who used to go with Onesisa to clean the trucks on the day, declined to go saying they should postpone it to the following day but he insisted on going on the same day,” he said.
Acting Bulawayo Chief Fire Officer Mr Linos Phiri said his team attended the scene after receiving calls at about 8:30PM.
He said when his team arrived Onesisa had already died.
“His body was retrived by one of the firefighters who entered the tank with a full breathing apparatus and removed the body assisted by other crew members. The body was then handed to the police. His friend who was assisting him had already been taken to the hospital,” said Mr Phiri.
He said cleaning of petrol tankers should be done by experienced individuals to avert similar disasters. -Chronicle
By A Correspondent- Opposition MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa last week evaded roadblocks mounted by Zanu PF thugs in Bindura and managed to meet his party’s supporters in the ruling party’s stronghold of Mashonaland Central province.
At some point, Chamisa is said to have used a motorbike to travel to Mbire to evade his adversaries.
According to MDC Alliance officials, state security agents and some Zanu PF supporters were trailing Chamisa’s convoy and the opposition leader was forced to abandon it.
Chamisa Saturday refused to comment on how he reached Mbire saying: “It’s a security issue, I cannot discuss that.”
His entry into the province reportedly caused friction in the ruling party with the Home Affairs Minister, Kazembe Kazembe, accused of allowing Chamisa safe passage into the province.
Chamisa, a former ICT Minister, told MDC Alliance supporters to prepare for the 2023 elections.
We are imploring you to vote for regime change.
May the youth, churches, business community, village heads and everyone know that it is now time for regime change.
Very soon we will make Zimbabwe work.
He promised party supporters that the MDC Alliance would soon adopt a new name after the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T’s threats to use MDC Alliance in future elections.
Chamisa was accompanied by his deputy Tendai Biti and several senior party leaders.
The MDC Alliance leader has visited Masvingo, Mashonaland West and Manicaland where ZANU PF youths and suspected state security agents have tried to stop the meetings.
By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe’s former envoy to Yugoslavia and Namibia, Ambassador Kennedy Grant Dick Chivanda Manyika has died. He died on November 5 at the age of 99.
Ambassador Manyika was an author, reverend and teacher. Born on September 22, 1922, he graduated as a teacher from Hope Fountain in 1947 and later returned to the teacher training institute as a critic teacher, to tutor future teachers including former President Robert Mugabe and national hero, Dr Eddison Zvobgo. After Hope Fountain, Ambassador Manyika would, assisted by his wife Rahab, go on to a three-decade award-winning teaching career (1947-1981) including winning the prestigious Secretary’s Bell twice. He was a leading member of the Rhodesian African Teachers Association, which pressed for better working conditions for African teachers and lobbied for more educational opportunities for Africans before independence.
His political activism saw him banished from teaching in urban schools for organising protests against poor working and living conditions for African workers in the mining town of Selukwe, now Shurugwi, in 1964. He built neglected and dying rural schools assigned by the Rhodesian government, including Chivizhe and Chakadini in Mashonaland East, Vungu Council School and Munyati in the Midlands, as punishment, into high performing institutions, but would be later expelled to neutralise his influence. Ambassador Manyika was also a founding member of Zanu in 1963, assigned to canvass for support in the Gweru East area. He established over 30 party branches in Gweru East, including in Nhema, Mazibiza, Sibolise and Shurugwi. Ambassador Manyika served for over four decades in various leadership capacities in the Wesleyan Methodist Church established by the British Methodist Church in 1891. He was among the top lay leaders that fought for and steered the local church to indigenous autonomy from the British Methodist Church in 1977.
The push for indigenisation of the church mirrored the countrywide desires of Africans to run their own affairs. On August 31, 1981, he was elected lay president of the autonomous church, but he was to forgo the appointment as he was invited on the same day by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to train as a diplomat. He would be re-elected to the same position upon his retirement from diplomatic service in 1991, and again in 1996. In 1982, he was appointed Zimbabwe’s first Ambassador to Yugoslavia, a country which had supported Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle and whose leaders had played a critical role in the shaping of European and world history in the 20th century. During his term of office in Yugoslavia, Ambassador Manyika was involved in negotiations that led to the construction of the then Sheraton Hotel (now Rainbow Towers) by Energo-Project Company, construction of the Zanu PF headquarters, road construction in Manicaland and material for the Zimbabwean and Mozambican military campaign against South Africa sponsored Renamo insurgents in Mozambique. He also served as Zimbabwe’s first ambassador to Namibia. In 2000, Ambassador Manyika was appointed Special Envoy of the Allied Countries during the DRC conflict to coordinate communication between the governments and Presidents of the respective Allied countries with the Sadc Allied Forces headquarters in Kinshasa. Ambassador Manyika will be buried on Saturday at Mtapa Cemetery in Gweru.
As Madhuku says the President was given absolute immunity…
President Emmerson Mnangagwa can be sued as he is not immune to court proceedings and has to respond to any lawsuit challenging his legitimacy as the Zanu PF leader, law experts said yesterday.
Lovemore Madhuku- file
Mnangagwa is trying to dodge being arraigned before the courts after a Zanu PF party member, Sybeth Musengezi, last month challenged his ascendancy to the top party post in November 2017 when he had been fired in government and in Zanu PF by the late former President and party leader Robert Mugabe.
In an opposing affidavit to Musengezi’s High Court application last week, Mnangagwa’s lawyers argued that he was not liable to judicial proceedings in terms of section 98 of the national charter.
Section 98(1) of the Constitution states: “While in office, the President is not liable to civil or criminal proceedings in any court for things done or omitted to be done in his or her personal capacity.
The Constitution further states in section 98(2) that, “Civil or criminal proceedings may be instituted against a former President for things done and omitted to be done before he or she became President or while he or she was President.”
Constitutional law expert and political analyst Alex Magaisa yesterday said Mnangagwa did not have such immunity as the institution of “Presidency” was different from the party Zanu PF as an institution.
He said the issues cited by Mnangagwa that he was immune from prosecution were a “sideshow” that did not affect the fundamentals of the case.
The law expert cited the 2018 High Court case of Elias Mashavira against the MDC-T, in which Nelson Chamisa was declared illegitimate leader of the opposition party, as having set precedence for Musengezi’s application.
The Mashavira court directed party officers to correct past irregularities of the party,” Magaisa tweeted yesterday.
He said Musengezi’s case should order Zanu PF as a party to correct the irregularities.
“Likewise, the decision that the courts make in the Musengezi case must primarily focus on the conduct of the party at the relevant time, and if it finds that there were irregularities, it should order the party’s officers to carry out their mandates to correct the irregularities. They will have a hard time distinguishing the Musengezi case from the Mashavira precedent without looking silly and partial.
“Mashavira waited years before making his challenge and the court allowed him, although he had not exhausted internal remedies in the MDC-T. It cannot now turn around and say Musengezi should have exhausted internal remedies in Zanu PF before approaching the courts without sounding stupid,” Magaisa said.
Another lawyer, Tawanda Mapuranga, said even though the Constitution had provisions of the President’s immunity, it did not change the nature of the application before the courts.
“Section 98(1) does not mean everything that it says. It has some exceptions. Immunity does not apply on election petitions, for instance, because he would be an election candidate. In this case, Musengezi’s case does not seek relief against Mnangagwa in his official capacity as the President of Zimbabwe,” he said.
“The court can render judgment on the case without Mnangagwa being sued. If he has immunity, he can be removed and the rest of the respondents can respond to the matter, and then it can be decided without him.”
But constitutional law expert Lovemore Madhuku said there was no chance for the court to rule that Mnangagwa was not immune.
When the court upholds section 98(1), it will be the collapse of the case.”
Madhuku said, therefore, Musengezi has to wait until Mnangagwa is no longer President to file his application.
“This whole debate is arising because people have a tendency of forgetting about what they voted for. The Constitution was a result of a referendum, which got 94,5% votes. But it is one of the few Constitutions around the world which gives the President such absolute immunity.”
He said this would be a lesson for people that vote for a supreme law that they did not read or understand. -Newsday

By A Correspondent- An American man has been jailed for having s_x with his 20-year-old wife, the daughter he abandoned shortly after she was born.
The Daily Star reported that Travis Fieldgrove started a relationship with Kershner, who was 20, when they began dating.
When the law finally caught up with them, the dad, from St Paul in Nebraska, was sentenced to the state’s maximum of two years in jail.
The pair’s twisted relationship began three years after dad Travis first met Samantha.
Nebraska TV reported that a year later, Travis received another two years for the same crime, attempted incest.
Kershner was handed 22 days in jail.
When Kershner was born in 2000, her dad left to start a new life with a new partner.
When she turned 17, he came back.
Three years later, they started having a sexual relationship with one another.
The authorities first got involved when Fieldgrove’s ex went to them to make claims about the illicit relationship.
Investigators started looking into the allegations and quickly discovered that the pair had been bragging about their life together on Facebook.
Shortly after police became involved, Fieldgrove and Kershner got married.
Cops said Samantha’s sexual desire for her dad “stemmed from a jealous competition with her half-sister regarding who could have sex with their father.”
At first, the pair denied that they were related, but a DNA test found there was a 99.999% chance Travis was her dad.
A Correspondent- Malawi citizens under the banner’ Social Revolution Movement’ on Friday, November 5, 2021, gave President Lazarus Chakwera seven days to immediately address the country’s economic problems or step down.
The grouping hinted that the Office of the Cabinet and President should respond to their concerns regarding social-economic challenges Malawians are going through.
The demonstrations which were endorsed by the Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) started from Lilongwe Community Ground. They were under the theme “Reclaiming a better Malawi.”
Speaking after the demonstrations, Movement leader, Phunziro Mvula, said they will hold mass demonstrations if their grievances will not be answered.
Mvula added that they want the office to address the rise in the cost of living due to heavy taxes and levies and the newly imposed Value Added Tax (VAT) on banking services.
He further said that government should also fulfil its promise of creating jobs and also uplifting local farmers.
We want our government to condemn corrupt activities by Malawians of Asian origin and to stop offering jobs to retired personal at the expenses of young and vibrant youthful professionals. They should address its failure and uplift health and education services.
We also protested against failure by government in the fight against corruption as evident by the abuse of MK6.2 billion and the issue of creation of new constituencies which will just put another burden on our already frail and fragile economy should be addressed.
The group also wants Chakwera and his administration to address the issue of cabinet and unwanted presidential advisors.
Lilongwe City Council (LCC) Deputy Director Administration Hudson Kumphanga received the petition, therefore, assuring the group that their concerns will be sent to the office of the president and cabinet as soon as possible.
Chakwera pledged, in his preelection campaign, to address issues bedevilling the country but observers say the issues continue unabated.

Coronavirus Has Potential To Cause Infertility, Libido Loss Zimbabwe’s Health and Child Care deputy minister, John Mangwiro said the coronavirus has the potential to cause infertility and loss of sex drive among both men and women, contrary to unfounded claims that life-saving vaccines were causing these side effects.
He made the remarks of Wednesday while addressing journalists attending a two-day HIV/Aids workshop in Chinhoyi.
NewZimbabwe.com quotes him as saying:
There are always prophets of doom who talk of COVID-19 vaccines as the ones that cause infertility and loss of libido. Vaccine is dead virus and it doesn’t cause these problems.
It is, in fact, the disease that can hit the ovaries in women, and in men it affects the testicles and cause infertility. The virus gives strokes, heart failure, it can eat your lungs and your liver.
He also indicated that the potent COVID-19 virus, and not the life-saving vaccines, could also result in acute renal failure, and sufferers end up needing dialysis treatment.
Mangwiro appealed to the media to clear myths, misinformation, disinformation and fake news about vaccines as the country pushes to attain 60% herd immunity by December 31, 2021.
His remarks are consistent with the findings of research that was conducted in Israel last year. The Jerusalem Post, reported that the study published in the journal of Fertility and Sterility had concluded that COVID-19 could cause male infertility by damaging testicular cells that produce sperms.
Researchers in Israel, where the research was conducted, claimed that sperm motility — or its ability to move by itself — was also hampered while sperm counts of infected men halved 30 days after they were diagnosed with COVID-19.
Professor Allan Pacey, an andrologist at the University of Sheffield and former chair of the British Fertility Society told MailOnline he wouldn’t be surprised if coronavirus caused a temporary drop in sperm production. He said:
People who get coronavirus are probably quite unwell, even influenza will cause a decline in sperm count temporarily.
The question is whether it is permanent and whether it is recoverable.
Early this year, the World Health Organisation (WHO) dismissed reports that suggested that COVID-19 vaccines cause infertility in both women and men saying they are mere conspiracy theories and false unscientific claims.- Pindula News
Darlington Manjokota (28) is admitted to Chivhu General Hospital after Police in the town unleashed dogs on him on Wednesday last week.
Medical sources told The Mirror that Manjokota’s hand may be amputated.
The Policeman who unleashed the dog on Manjokota identified as Taurai Ruziwa accused Manjokota of throwing a stone at him.
National Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi told The Mirror that he was not aware of the incident.
Chivhu Residents and Ratepayers Association (CHRRA) chairman, Collen Zvarevashe expressed disgust at the excessive abuse by Police.
The Mirror visited Manjokota at Chivhu General Hospital where he is admitted. He told the publication:
I was leaving the bar and suddenly people started fleeing in different directions. I ran away trying to find a place to hide but I did not realise that I was going in the direction of the Police.
They then let loose their dog and it attacked me. It dragged me 8 metres towards the police officers. They picked me up and dumped me at the hospital.
I confronted Ruziwa the next morning over the matter and he threatened to throw me into the cells. He accused me of having thrown a stone at the Police.
He added that CHRRA responded swiftly with medical bills but the immediate decision was for his hand to be amputated. Said Manjokota:
Am not sure whether I am now safe from that since I am receiving treatment from the hospital ward.
Zvarevashe who is already mobilising resources to assist Manjokota said police have rendered Manjokota unable to fend for his family. – Masvingo Mirror
ARTISANAL miners have been blamed for causing the spread of HIV and tuberculosis in Matabeleland South province.
Matabeleland South TB/HIV officer Norbert Singine told Southern Eye that the province has huge mineral deposits, resulting in the influx of artisanal miners who engage in reckless sexual behaviour, causing the spread of HIV in the province.
“They are possible causes of high HIV infection in Matabeleland South. It is mostly spread by artisanal miners because they are mobile and engage in reckless sexual activities wherever they will be,” Singine said.
He said the high HIV rate was also a result of the province’s proximity to the border between Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa, leading to high transmission of the diseases.
“Our province is a gateway to South Africa and Botswana and this means the population in transit engages in sexual activities with our communities along the border,” he said. “These busy borders, especially Beitbridge and Plumtree, have truck drivers who sometimes do rest at the two borders and during this time, they do engage in sexual activities.”
Singine also said the influx of mopane worms harvesters added to the spread of HIV.
“People who harvest mopane worms camp in the forest. This means people are away from their families and might engage in sexual activities,” he said.
Singine said people also camped at illegal crossing points selling food to people illegally crossing into the neighbouring countries.
He said newly-identified HIV positive cases as from January to September 2021 stood at 4 535 while from September 2021 and to date, 458 cases were recorded.
According to the National Aids Council, Matabeleland South province tops the list of areas hard hit by HIV and Aids.- NewsDay
ZANU PF’s plot to disrupt MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa’s ongoing rural outreach programme has been exposed after chats from a ruling party’s WhatsApp group went viral, with members accusing each other of giving the opposition leader unwarranted “free passage” into Mashonaland Central province on Wednesday.
Chamisa’s “meet-the-people” tours in Masvingo, Manicaland, Mashonaland West and Mashonaland Central provinces have been violently disrupted by Zanu PF supporters who accused him of inviting the West to impose sanctions on Zimbabwe.
Although Zanu PF has distanced itself from the alleged attacks on the opposition leader, including attempts on his life, the latest exposệ seem to confirm its involvement.
In the leaked chats, disgruntled Zanu PF members accused provincial chairperson Kazembe Kazembe, who doubles as Home Affairs minister, of failing to stop Chamisa from addressing his supporters in Mashonaland Central province.
A WhatsApp group member using an Econet line registered under the name Douglas Bhedhemu, who was identified as Comrade Six, accused senior provincial party leaders of wilfully failing to stop Chamisa from entering the province.
This came after Chamisa avoided a roadblock set up for his entourage along the Harare-Rushinga Road and sneaked into the province where addressed opposition supporters in Mt Darwin East early this week.
“What surprises me is that Chamisa went to Rushinga where Comrade (Lazarus) Dokora is vying for provincial chairmanship and there is MP (Tendai) Nyabani… What should we say when we are seeing this, because Chamisa has gone to Rushinga… who summoned him? Cde Dokora, explain this to us. You are the one who called him,” Bhedhemu said.
Party activists suggested that the leadership should have organised musical or sports galas and clean-up campaigns as a way of distracting supporters from attending Chamisa’s rallies.
“What we know is, if MDC is supposed to come, galas and other sporting activities are organised. We know (former Zanu PF commissar Saviour) Kasukuwere would mobilise people to distract them from attending MDC rallies …. why didn’t Dokora take action?
“Even chairman Kazembe Kazembe, where were you when MDC came into your province and you failed to mobilise the youth, even to pick papers? You were outdone by Masvingo province which successfully blocked Chamisa from holding his meetings.”
A Zanu PF central committee report released at the party’s national annual conference last week revealed that the ruling party was worried about Chamisa’s penetration of rural areas.
Contacted for comment yesterday, Zanu PF acting spokesperson Michael Bimha said he was yet to be shown the WhatsApp messages and insisted that Zanu PF did not condone violence.
“We do not have a party position that condones violence against Chamisa or any other person,” Bimha said.
“That Chamisa is holding rallies is not important to Zanu PF. I haven’t yet seen the WhatsApp messages you are talking about.”
Nyabani could neither deny nor confirm the Whatsapp chats when NewsDay Weekender contacted him for comment.
“Why should I have blocked Chamisa?” he asked.
“This is a free country where everyone has the right to travel wherever he wishes to. Does he (Chamisa) need a passport to travel to Rushinga? Chamisa is none of my business. Mash Central is a Zanu PF stronghold and Chamisa has no chance of winning. That is why I do not care about his movements.”
Following the heated verbal exchange among Zanu PF supporters, violence broke out in the province yesterday as party activists barred opposition supporters from attending Chamisa’s rallies in Shamva, Mvurwi and Muzarabani.
The MDC Alliance claimed that several villagers in the three districts, who were suspected to be opposition supporters, were arrested and later released without charge.
Chamisa tweeted to confirm the intimidation of his supporters.
“Intense terror and intimidation. Great meetings in Shamva, Mvurwi and Muzarabani! These areas turned into a warzone as roads were barricaded. Village heads, villagers targeted and victimised just on mere suspicion that they had attended our community interface meetings. Zim must be free,” he tweeted
MDC Alliance deputy spokesperson Gift Siziba said violent attacks on party supporters escalated after Chamisa’s provincial tour.
“We are adhering to all the COVID-19 protocols and we are not addressing more than 100 people,” Siziba said.
“But villagers are getting arrested by the police. Zanu PF is unleashing terror on our supporters who have remained restrained but they are being arrested instead. We have had deliberate delays at roadblocks. Some of our members were arrested and detained and released without charge which all amounts to human rights violations.”
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he had not yet received reports of the alleged arrest of opposition party members.- NewsDay
By Deborah Harry | It’s been almost a week now since the dictator of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa flew into the UK for the UN COP26 summit in Glasgow. Looking back at his brief presence in Scotland, there is no other way to describe it other than as a massive flop.
Everything that he did and every attempt he made to portray his presence at this summit as a huge success for his regime fell flat on its face. At the end if it all, he was just another tin-pot dictator gate-crashing an international summit by default.
Holed up inside his hotel … Emmerson Mnangagwa
It’s pointless to analyse his speech because every sentence that he uttered was either a lie or a very big lie. In addition to those lies, he made up other lies about having fruitful meetings with the US President and senior member of the Royal Family. But the more unhinged of his lies was his claim that his presence at COP26 was evidence that the West are re-engaging with Zimbabwe. Absolute nonsense. The West has always engaged with the people of Zimbabwe through NGOs which do a lot of humanitarian work. However, the West have rightfully refused to acknowledge or do business with his regime because Zanu are unhinged thieves who couldn’t be trusted to run a village kraal without stealing or using violence.
If Mnangagwa had made that boring speech in Harare there would have been thousands of people bussed in and given scarfs and alcohol to cheer on command. The truth of the matter is that he was invited to COP26 only on the basis that it was a UN event where every country of the world is represented. In other words, he was there only because Zimbabwe is a country. But he wasn’t the elected representative of Zimbabwe because we know he rigged that 2018 election. He was there because Zimbabwe has people, the same people his government are punishing with poverty and violence, yet he claims to represent them. No shame in this one.
https://youtu.be/dGzj8qAibD4
If his presence in Glasgow was such a success and evidence of western re-engagement with Zanu, then why didn’t he go to London afterwards? Why didn’t he host his own scheduled meetings? He could not attend his own Galla on the 2nd Nov (which became flop because of our effective protest); and he was nowhere near his own Presidential Investment Conference. He was a prisoner trapped in his hotel enclosure (picture). Why not appear at one of those business discussion panels at Chatham House? The truth is, he is still under sanctions and could only be in Glasgow where the summit was being held, there’s no western re-engagement for him and his gang. His presence in Scotland was a huge flop and rightfully so. It’s now up to Zimbabweans from all walks of life including the people who are having their Road to Damascus moment with the #NgaapindeHakeMukokamana chant to come up with a plan to get rid of this man and his people at the next election. We cannot go on like this.
Komichi said his outfit “has adopted a completely New Strategy to resolve Zimbabwe Economic and Political crises in order to improve the lives of our people.
“National Dialogue is the Strategy. People ‘s LIVES will definitely IMPROVE. No doubt about that!”
Lloyd Chitembwe has poured cold water on any talk that he is on the verge of dumping Harare City and return to CAPS United.
The Green Machine had shortlisted the gaffer to takeover the team following the sacking of Darlington Dodo early this week.
But Chitembwe, who still has a contract with the Sunshine Boys, said he is no intention of rejoining United.
“That is pure insult and I am someone who honours his contracts and I don’t even know where this is coming from as the people peddling those lies have not bothered to ask me,’’ the coach said.
“I am still the Harare City coach as you can see that I am here unless if they are to tell me that I am no longer wanted then I can pack my bags.’’
Meanwhile, Harare City lost their opening game of the 2021 Castle Lager Premiership season 1-0 to Herentals on Friday.
Tinotenda Benza netted the solitary goal in the first half of the clash.
Speaking on the performance of his team, Chitembwe added: “We played well overally, as we dominated position from the onset but we failed in the final third, which is something which we are going to work on.
“The game was good and it is unfortunate that we lost.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe
Keegan Dolly scored a second half brace as Kaizer Chiefs beat arch-rivals Orlando Pirates 2-1 in the Soweto derby at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Stuart Baxter’s charges came into the biggest game in South African football looking to get back to winning ways after last week’s disappointing 0-1 loss to Stellenbsoch.
The first half had very little in terms of goal-mouth action, with none of the two sides coming close to breaking the deadlock.
Goalless it was, at the half time break.
Four minutes after the restart, the deadlock was broken.
A mistake at the back by Pirates defender Thulani Hlatshwayo saw Khama Billiat feeding Dolly, who made no mistake and thrust Amakhosi ahead with his first ever goal in the Soweto derby.
Billiat had a chance to double Chiefs’ advantage in the 81st minute but the dimunitive winger’s goal-bound chip over Pirates goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane was eventually cleared away.
Pirates levelled matters in dramatic fashion with three minutes of regulation time remaining, when Linda Mntambo’s rebound beat Daniel Akpeyi in goal for Chiefs.
There was more drama to follow and Billiat was brought down in the box in stoppage time and the referee pointed to the penalty spot.
Dolly colly-converted the spot kick to hand Amakhosi bragging rights and maximum points in the derby.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

More than 700 000 people die due to suicide every year. For every suicide there are many more people who attempt suicide. A prior suicide attempt is the single most important risk factor for suicide in the general population. Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death in 15-19-year-olds. 77% of global suicides occur in low- and middle-income countries. Ingestion of pesticide, hanging and firearms are among the most common methods of suicide globally. Every year 703 000 people take their own life and there are many more people who attempt suicide. Every suicide is a tragedy that affects families, communities and entire countries and has long-lasting effects on the people left behind. Suicide occurs throughout the lifespan and was the fourth leading cause of death among 15-29 year-olds globally in 2019.
Suicide does not just occur in high-income countries, but is a global phenomenon in all regions of the world. In fact, over 77% of global suicides occurred in low- and middle-income countries in 2019.
Suicide is a serious public health problem; however, suicides are preventable with timely, evidence-based and often low-cost interventions. For national responses to be effective, a comprehensive multisectoral suicide prevention strategy is needed.
Who is at risk? While the link between suicide and mental disorders (in particular, depression and alcohol use disorders) is well established in high-income countries, many suicides happen impulsively in moments of crisis with a breakdown in the ability to deal with life stresses, such as financial problems, relationship break-up or chronic pain and illness.
In addition, experiencing conflict, disaster, violence, abuse, or loss and a sense of isolation are strongly associated with suicidal behaviour. Suicide rates are also high amongst vulnerable groups who experience discrimination, such as refugees and migrants; indigenous peoples; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex (LGBTI) persons; and prisoners. By far the strongest risk factor for suicide is a previous suicide attempt.
Methods of suicide It is estimated that around 20% of global suicides are due to pesticide self-poisoning, most of which occur in rural agricultural areas in low- and middle-income countries. Other common methods of suicide are hanging and firearms.
Knowledge of the most commonly used suicide methods is important to devise prevention strategies which have shown to be effective, such as restriction of access to means of suicide.
Prevention and control Suicides are preventable. There are a number of measures that can be taken at population, sub-population and individual levels to prevent suicide and suicide attempts. LIVE LIFE, WHO’s approach to suicide prevention, recommends the following key effective evidence-based interventions:
limit access to the means of suicide (e.g. pesticides, firearms, certain medications); interact with the media for responsible reporting of suicide; foster socio-emotional life skills in adolescents; early identify, assess, manage and follow up anyone who is affected by suicidal behaviours., These need to go hand-in-hand with the following foundational pillars: situation analysis, multisectoral collaboration, awareness raising, capacity building, financing, surveillance and monitoring and evaluation.
Suicide prevention efforts require coordination and collaboration among multiple sectors of society, including the health sector and other sectors such as education, labour, agriculture, business, justice, law, defence, politics, and the media. These efforts must be comprehensive and integrated as no single approach alone can make an impact on an issue as complex as suicide.
Challenges and obstacles Stigma and taboo Stigma, particularly surrounding mental disorders and suicide, means many people thinking of taking their own life or who have attempted suicide are not seeking help and are therefore not getting the help they need. The prevention of suicide has not been adequately addressed due to a lack of awareness of suicide as a major public health problem and the taboo in many societies to openly discuss it. To date, only a few countries have included suicide prevention among their health priorities and only 38 countries report having a national suicide prevention strategy.
Raising community awareness and breaking down the taboo is important for countries to make progress in preventing suicide.
Data quality Globally, the availability and quality of data on suicide and suicide attempts is poor. Only some 80 Member States have good-quality vital registration data that can be used directly to estimate suicide rates. This problem of poor-quality mortality data is not unique to suicide, but given the sensitivity of suicide – and the illegality of suicidal behaviour in some countries – it is likely that under-reporting and misclassification are greater problems for suicide than for most other causes of death.
Improved surveillance and monitoring of suicide and suicide attempts is required for effective suicide prevention strategies. Cross-national differences in the patterns of suicide, and changes in the rates, characteristics and methods of suicide, highlight the need for each country to improve the comprehensiveness, quality and timeliness of their suicide-related data. This includes vital registration of suicide, hospital-based registries of suicide attempts and nationally-representative surveys collecting information about self-reported suicide attempts.
WHO response WHO recognizes suicide as a public health priority. The first WHO World Suicide Report “Preventing suicide: a global imperative”, published in 2014, aims to increase the awareness of the public health significance of suicide and suicide attempts and to make suicide prevention a high priority on the global public health agenda. It also aims to encourage and support countries to develop or strengthen comprehensive suicide prevention strategies in a multisectoral public health approach.
Suicide is one of the priority conditions in the WHO Mental Health Gap Action Programme (mhGAP) launched in 2008, which provides evidence-based technical guidance to scale up service provision and care in countries for mental, neurological and substance use disorders. In the WHO Mental Health Action Plan 2013–2030, WHO Member States have committed themselves to working towards the global target of reducing the suicide rate in countries by one third by 2030.
In addition, the suicide mortality rate is an indicator of target 3.4 of the Sustainable Development Goals: by 2030, to reduce by one third premature mortality from noncommunicable diseases through prevention and treatment, and promote mental health and well-being.

By Nontokozo Malaba Ncube| For some strange reason the UN invited the tin pot dictator of Zimbabwe to the COP26 Climate Change summit held in Glasgow.
The first point to bear in mind is the obvious fact that Zanu has zero credibility about anything because of an enumerable number of reasons; ask any Zimbabwean and they will use up at least 5 hours listing the crimes committed by this lot. Now, the issue about Climate Change is one about making sacrifices and tough choices in order to ensure that there is a planet to live on for future generations.
Contrast that with the purposeful looting and pillaging of Zimbabwe by Mnangagwa, his inner circle and a raft of other thieving imposters circling around his government. Inevitably, the sight of him and his hangers on at a world summit about climate puts the reputation of the UN into question because we know Zanu don’t care about climate change, or the future of the world. Zanu can’t even be bothered to care about about Zimbabweans in 2021, so them pretending to care about future generations of Zimbabweans is just another other episode of the shamelessness of these people’s hypocrisy.
Not only that, but the climate change happening in Zimbabwe is a direct result of the Chinese pioneer column that is swarming in to dig up whatever mineral they can loot out of the country, destroying whichever natural habitat that stands in the way of their looting ventures. All at the invitation of the Zanu regime .
Every Zimbabwean will know that Mnangagwa and his gang know nothing about Climate change, and even if they did they don’t give two hoots about it unless they can pocket whatever funds will emerge from that jaunt in Glasgow. As for his speech, he made it in front of an almost empty auditorium just as he did at his last UN invitation.
By the way where all those flatulent UK Zanu supporters who we saw in the papers attempting to show off their success and allegiance to the regime through the medium of wholesale bought cheap alcohol. Where were they when their deity was making a speech in front of cleaners and ushers?
It didn’t end there. Mnangagwa further embarrassed himself by trying to sponge off other leaders’ popularity via photo opportunities with the new Zambian president and Prince William. Not only that, he has since been making unverified claims about having cordial meetings with Prince Charles and President Biden. He embarrassed all of us, and himself.
To then hold a rally at the airport narrating falsehoods in front of a crowd of people bussed in probably forcibly to cheer on is even more pathetic.
People can say what they want about Nelson Chamisa, but if it was him at the Climate Summit, his speech as well as his presence would have drawn a bigger crowd. We hope that in 2023 the people of Zimbabwe finally come together and remove this embarrassment of a ‘president’ who imposed himself on the country via a military coup.
By A Correspondent- Opposition MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa on Friday evaded roadblocks mounted by suspected Zanu-PF supporters and state security agents to meet his party’s supporters in ruling party’s stronghold of Mashonaland Central province.
At some point Chamisa is said to have used a motorbike to travel to Mbire to evade his adversaries.
According to MDC Alliance officials, state security agents and some Zanu-PF supporters were trailing Chamisa’s convoy and the opposition leader was forced to abandon it.
Chamisa yesterday refused to comment on how he reached Mbire saying: “It’s a security issue, I cannot discuss that.”
He told MDC Alliance supporters to prepare for the 2023 elections.
“We are imploring you to vote for regime change,” Chamisa said.
“May the youth, churches, business community, village heads and everyone know that it is now time for regime change.
“Very soon we will make Zimbabwe work.”
He promised party supporters that the MDC Alliance would soon adopt a new name after the Douglas Mwonzora led MDC-T’s threats to use it in future elections.
Chamisa was accompanied by his deputy Tendai Biti and several senior party leaders.
The MDC Alliance leader has visited Masvingo, Mashonaland West and Manicaland where he was met by huge crowds during several stop-overs.
Zanu-PF youths and suspected state security agents have tried to stop the opposition’s meetings on several occasions.
In Manicaland, the MDC Alliance said there was an attempt to kill Chamisa after a car he was travelling in was allegedly shot at by people that had been trailing him.
Chamisa, who narrowly lost the disputed 2018 presidential elections to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, is expected to face the Zanu-PF leader again in the highly-anticipated polls.
There are already fears that the polls would be marred by violence given the rising tension between Zanu-PF and the MDC Alliance.-standard
By A Correspondent- The Bulawayo City Council has bemoaned loss of revenue due to residents who abandon their stands after acquiring them, which makes it difficult for the local authority to recover money for rates.
The city fathers said the abandoned stands had become havens for criminals and others turned into illegal dump sites, posing a danger to the residents.
Last year, the local authority repossessed 179 stands in Cowdray Park, Entumbane and Pumula after some of the owners went for up to 22 years without making any meaningful development on them.
Bulawayo deputy mayor Mlandu Ncube said the issue of residents abandoning stands was a cause for concern..
“This is seriously affecting the operations of the council. Council makes revenue when stands are all occupied.
“Some of these stands have been left idle for a long time,” said Mlandu.
“Some of them are now being used as dumpsites and hide outs for criminals, which poses a danger to residents.”
Ncube said such issues were disrupting their plans to reduce the housing backlog.
“We expect residents to at least develop their stands within a five year time frame.
“A stand which is not being developed must be repossessed,” he said.
“We usually do not like repossessing stands because we are a listening council.”
Council has the authority to repossess the abandoned stands using the Titles Registration and Derelict Lands Act (chapter 20:20).
The Act states that; “Persons having claim on derelict land may apply to High Court or other public body upon immovable property in Zimbabwe and such property is abandoned, deserted derelict, and the owner thereof cannot be found, it shall be lawful for the person or body claiming such rate or assessment to apply to the High Court, stating the amount claimed to be due and the grounds applying for relief under this Act.”
By A Correspondent- A bid by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s loyalists to introduce changes into Zanu-PF’s electoral rules and give its leader the right to handpick provincial chairpersons has been thwarted.
Ahead of the Zanu-PF annual conference that ended in Bindura on October 31, a clique of provincial chairpersons loyal to Mnangagwa campaigned for the proposals to checkmate a faction loyal to Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga.
This was after the ruling party was forced in September to shelve provincial elections that were marred by violence, which was blamed on widening fissures in Zanu-PF.
“Those who were in support of the proposal are provincial chairpersons such as Mike Madiro (Manicaland), Ezra Chadzamira (Masvingo) and Kazembe Kazembe (Mashonaland Central) and they wanted Mnangagwa to do what he did (in the Midlands) in all provinces,” said a Zanu-PF insider familiar with the bid.
“They know that if elections are conducted, they will lose.
“They tried to sell the idea that if provincial chairpersons are appointed, this will end factionalism, but the proposal was shot down.”
Mnangagwa was forced to intervene after fights between his allies Daniel Mackenzie Ncube and Owen Ncube over the control of the province turned nasty.
The president is said to have ordered the two to drop their bids to lead the province and pave the way for Larry Mavima to bring calm to Midlands.
If the proposal to impose the provincial chairpersons had succeeded, Zanu-PF insiders say it would have resulted in Mnangagwa strengthening his grip on the party. Mike Bimha, the acting Zanu-PF spokesperson, admitted that the proposal was thrown out at the conference.
Bimha, however, denied reports that Mnangagwa was behind the proposal to bolster his power.
“Far from it, the president cannot go to provinces, it is too low a structure,” he said when asked whether the Zanu-PF leader had a hand in the push to impose leaders.
“Even politburo members, they are selected from central committee members.
“What some delegates proposed was that provincial leaders should play a role in the selection of candidates, not to allow everyone, even those without grounding in the party to contest.”
Factionalism is a perennial problem in Zanu-PF and in 2017 it turned bloody when the military joined the fight on the side of a faction that supported Mnangagwa and engineered a coup that toppled the late Robert Mugabe.-standard
By A Correspondent- Divisions have rocked the Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe that have resulted in the resignation of some top officials.
In confidential emails seen by Sunday News and directed to the WCoZ Membership and Ethics Committee chaired by Ms Kay Ncube, chairperson Mrs Evernice Munando referred to a complaint that was raised by an unnamed official in the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises that Bulawayo chairperson Mrs Nomuhle Nyoni was allegedly using the organisation’s structures to campaign on behalf of a political party.
“I write to bring to your attention that yesterday, On 25/10/21 I received a complaint from a representative from Ministry of Women Affairs that they were informed by the Bulawayo Chapter Chairperson that the WCoZ executive had made a resolution that WCoZ will no longer work with them forthwith. The call came an hour later after we sat for the urgent board meeting to discuss the Treasurer’s issue. The reasons stated alleged that the Ministry of Women’s Affairs is Zanu-PF whereas WCoZ is a non-partisan organisation. The issue was also mentioned to justify the reason above,” she wrote.
Her email she continues: “On another note, it was alleged that the Bulawayo Chapter is working under the auspices of the Movement for Democratic Change to the extent that they no longer recognise any representatives from the Ministry when they attend WCoZ meetings. It was further alleged that the Bulawayo Chapter was visibly seen pushing the opposition’s agenda in many spaces where WCoZ members are seen actively participating.
The caller expressed her disappointment in how WCoZ has become part of the regime change agenda which is contrary to its status of being non-partisan. I kindly advise you to begin investigations on the matter.”
There is also disgruntlement in the manner in which the association’s funds are being handled, with top officials, however, maintaining that all was well.-statemedia
By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe’s official distributor of Jameson Irish Whiskey is being forced to introduce extra security features on packaging of its products due to proliferation of “Counterfeit whiskies” in the country.
Bullred Distribution said there was a significant rise in the number of people selling illicit alcohol packaged as Jameson Irish whiskey.
“We have received complaints from members of the public who have purchased alcohol from various places and have complained of texture, smell and taste,” Bullred sales manager Tatenda Ruwodo told Standardpeople.
New security features on Jameson Irish Whiskey “We recognised that they were sold illicit imitation alcohol and we addressed this issue by adding extra security features to our bottles to give customers the tools to identify stock distributed through the original channels.
“Firstly, we have added extra security features to all our bottles.
“Consumers should look out for a clear plastic seal on the lid of each bottle, as well as a white “Drink Responsibly” sticker on the side.
New security features on Jameson Irish Whiskey
“As Bullred Distribution, we pride ourselves in selling the original product, not the imitations that you see in the market and we are actively working to educate consumers.”
There are several health risks, which vary in severity from alcohol poisoning to cancer, liver disease, hormone imbalances, loss of hair, and even death posed by the fake whiskeys.
Zimbabwe does not have laws against the distribution of illicit alcohol, which is mostly sold at cheaper prices compared to that sold by official suppliers.
“All we can do is ensure we follow the laws in place and do everything we can to inform consumers on how best to protect themselves when purchasing Jameson Irish Whiskey,” Ruwodo said.
New security features on Jameson Irish Whiskey There is a proliferation of illicit brews sold under the guise of whiskey, vodka and gin to unsuspecting imbibers, especially in high-density areas in cities.

Twenty eight Chiadzwa villagers were on Thursday 4 November 2021 released from prison custody after they were arrested by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers for allegedly protesting against Chinese diamond miner, Anjin Investments.
The 28 Chiadzwa villagers, who included Robert Chiadzwa, a 90 year-old Headman, were arrested on Wednesday 3 November 2021 and charged with public violence as defined in Section 36 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
Prosecutors told Magistrate Langton Mukwengi that Newman Chiadzwa aged 66 years, Headman Chiadzwa aged 90 years and Shadreck Chipise aged 61 years organised an unsanctioned demonstration at Anjin Investments’ new processing plant in the diamond fields of Chiadzwa, in which the villagers participated.
The villagers’ gripe with Anjin Investments emanated from the diamond miner’s decision to have Chief Marange instead of Headman Chiadzwa preside over rituals conducted to allow it to resume mining operations in Chiadzwa.
Things heated up after Anjin Investments failed to turn up for a meeting scheduled for 2 November 2021 at Headman Chiadzwa’s homestead of which the diamond miner had agreed to attend so as to iron out some grievances which the villagers had.
This, prosecuted alleged, prompted the villagers to force their way into Anjin Investments’ new processing plant and barricaded all roads leading to the plant with stones.
Prosecutors alleged that Newman Chiadzwa, Headman Chiadzwa and Chipise ordered all Anjin Investments employees to shut down operations while the other villagers were carrying placards denouncing the diamond miner.
Besides the three, the other villagers include Mathew Mundondo aged 38 years, Jey Kasakara aged 29 years, Onias Chiadzwa aged 53 years, William Nhunduro aged 55 years, Josphat Makaza aged 37 years, Mirirai Chiadzwa aged 46 years, Onai Marange aged 40 years, Irene Sithole aged 48 years, Trymore Mangwiro aged 35 years, Tinashe Zvinodavanhu aged 47 years, Pendai Makota aged 62 years, Augastine Majaha aged 48 years, Mika Sanyerwa aged 44 years, John Chibiya aged 49 years, Gumisai Mugomo aged 34 years, Rombe Engai aged 60 years, Justin Chiadzwa aged 75 years, Beaulla Mawoyo aged 69 years, Rosemary Chiadzwa aged 48 years, Howard Taremeredzwa aged 54 years, Jacob Kazambara aged 41 ears, Gilbert Chiadzwa aged 41 years, Bonnie Mujoma aged 74 years, Munyaradzi Chenjerai aged 38 years and Hudson Chiadzwa aged 67 years.
The villagers reportedly held placards which read “Anjin you destroyed livestock”, “Your consultation action was not done properly”, “Anjin you destroyed our dams and rivers, arable land, grazing and pastures”, Anjin you lied to Chiadzwa community”, “Anjin our livelihoods we want compensation”, “Col Esau don’t mislead Anjin about Chiyadzwa rituals stay at barracks”; “Marange your foot into Chiyadzwa territory at your own risk bvunza Gilbert”.
The Chiadzwa villagers, prosecutors said, destroyed clay pots containing traditional beer on 28 October 2021 as they protested against being side lined in the rituals process and reportedly demanded that 10 percent of Anjin Investments employees should be from the local community and also complained about the ill-treatment of workers by some Chinese nationals.
The Chiadzwa villagers allegedly assaulted some Chinese nationals for refusing to obey their orders to stop all operations at the diamond plant although they did not sustain serious injuries.
On Thursday 4 November 2021, Magistrate Mukwengi released the 28 villagers from prison custody after ordering them to pay ZWL3 000 each as bail money and not to be within a 100 metre radius from Anjin Investments premises, not to interfere with witnesses and to continue residing at their given residential addresses.
The 28 villagers, who were represented by Cosmos Chibaya, Peggy Tavagadza and Moses Chikomo of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights and Passmore Nyakureba and Blessward Mungure of Zimbabwe Environmental Lawyers Association, return to court on 22 November 2021.
By A Correspondent- Dema residents have welcomed the move by government to have five tollgates relocated.
Several residents who spoke to Zim Eye hailed the move adding that the move was positive as the tollgate was disadvantaging many motorists who reside in Dema.
Said a man only identified as David:
“We are happy that government has heard our cry, because we commute to Harare on a daily basis and it was very costly for us.”
Added another commutter:
“Transport is expensive because we have very few plying this route because of the tollgate. I am sure that with this latest announcement, many will ply this route thus making it easier for us to commute to and from Harare and Chitungwiza.”
Five tollgates on the outskirts of cities and towns will be moved further out to ease the financial burden on motorists living in peri-urban areas who have to pay road tolls twice daily on their way to and from work.
Plans are also afoot to upgrade existing tollgates on major highways to ensure they can cope rapidly and easily with the growing volumes of traffic and do not become a choke point.
Tollgates set to be relocated are Skyline, Dema, Lion’s Den, Umguza and Shamva.
By next month, the Shamva tollgate is set to be moved to the 40km peg along the Harare-Nyamapanda Highway while those that will be rehabilitated to standard levels are the Norton, Esigodini, Mushagashi, Mupfurudzi and Colleen Bawn tollgates.
Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Felix Mhona, his Deputy Mike Madiro and officials from Zinara, the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR), Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ), Vehicle Inspectorate Department (VID) and the Central Mechanical Equipment Department (CMED) yesterday toured the Shamva tollgate.
The minister and the officials also conducted an awareness and clean-up campaign during the tour.
Minister Mhona confirmed that the tollgates would be moved further and Zinara was in the process of following the normal procedure for these developments.
“The main objective is to move these tollgates further out. When they were constructed, there were no communities that were nearby. But now more people have now constructed houses near them and hence there is need to move them out further,” he said.
He said many people were complaining about the location of the tollgates since they had to drive through them daily.
Zinara chief executive officer Mr Nkosinathi Ncube said Zinara would fund the reconstruction, rehabilitation and relocation of the tollgates.
“Shamva will be one of the tollgates that the Ministry of Transport will relocate and Zinara will come up with the funding. But as Zinara, we are the users of the tollgate so the key issue is that the lanes are widened so that motorist are able to pass through comfortably.
“We also want to use technology. We just don’t want to be expanding. There are a couple of initiatives that we are coming up with such as e-tolling which is already under process,” he said.
Meanwhile, motorists who evade paying toll fees by using by-passes and individuals who allow their private roads or premises to be used as by-passes are now liable to pay a fine of $20 000 following the criminalisation of such acts by the Government. This fine, which is set at level 5, goes into Zinara’s road fund.
The same fine is applicable to those who block the road at tolling points or who commit actions that could block it or obstruct it. Smaller fines in the gazetted Statutory Instrument, vending and loitering around tollgates are now also prohibited and punishable by a fine of $2 000.
In the event of a breakdown or otherwise, any vehicle that remains at the tolling point booth or blocks use of any tolling booth for a period exceeding 30 minutes shall be subject to a penalty of the applicable toll fee for such a vehicle for every 30 minutes it remains blocking the tolling point or part thereof.
At law, Zinara, or the Department of Roads in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development acting on behalf of Zinara, are now empowered to close by-passes within a 1km radius of the tollgate.

By A Correspondent| Concerned citizens under the banner Social Revolution Movement on Friday, November 5, 2021 gave President Lazarus Chakwera seven days to immediately address economic problems facing the country or step down.
The grouping hinted that the Office of the President and Cabinet should respond to their concerns regarding social-economic challenges Malawians are going through.
The demonstrations which were endorsed by Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) started from Lilongwe Community Ground via Mchesi up to Civic Offices under the theme “Reclaiming a better Malawi.”
Speaking after the demonstrations, Movement leader, Phunziro Mvula, said they will hold mass demonstrations if their grievances are not answered.
Mvula added that they want the office to address the rise in cost of living due to heavy taxes and levies and the newly imposed Value Added Tax (VAT) on banking services.
He further said that government should also fulfill its promise of creating jobs and also uplifting local farmers.
“We want our government to condemn corrupt activities by Malawians of Asian origin and to stop offering jobs to retired persons at the expense of young and vibrant youthful professionals. They should address its failure and uplift health and education services.
“We also protested against failure by government in the fight against corruption as evidenced by the abuse of MK6.2 billion and the issue of creation of new constituencies which will just put another burden on our already frail and fragile economy should be addressed,” he explained.
The group also wants Chakwera and his administration to address the issue of cabinet and unwanted presidential advisors.
Lilongwe City Council (LCC) Deputy Director Administration Hudson Kumphanga received the petition and assured the group that their concerns will be sent to the office president and cabinet as soon as possible.
The demonstrations were supposed to begin from Lilongwe Town Hall but Police forced the demonstrators to begin the march from Lilongwe Community Centre ground.
Tens of armed police formed a block at C-Company to prevent demonstrators from passing through the main town to Lilongwe Town Hall where demonstrations were supposed to begin.
However, following a long discussion, Mvula accepted the police order not to proceed to the Town Hall.
President Chakwera, who was out of the country, was expected to return home on Saturday, November 6, 2021 .
According to State House, Chakwera will address the press on November 8, 2021.
By A Correspondent- A Masvingo man was recently arrested in Beitbridge after allegedly breaking into two houses where he stole goods among them an AK-47 rifle belonging to a member of the President’s Department.
The 33-year-old Obey Mhuru from Gutu was arrested after he was hit by a car by a man he had threatened to shoot in the Vhembe View suburb on 22 October.
He appeared in court on Friday and his case was postponed to 19 November to allow him to get medical attention at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare.
He has been charged with two counts of unlawful entry.
Ms Fezile Mpofu who was representing the state told the court that Mhuru broke into a cottage in Benne Knot Street on 7 September evening and stole a Samsung J7 smartphone, cash R1 000 and US$70.
On the following day at around, Mhuru went to a house belonging to the President’s Department while the occupants were away and stole an AK-47 rifle (shot butt) and a magazine with 30 rounds.
Both offences were discovered on 9 September and were reported to the police.
Mhuru was arrested early on 22 October at another house in Hill-Clause in the same suburb after being hit by a car as he attempted to attack one of the occupants using the stolen AK47 rifle.
The rifle was subsequently recovered loaded with 19 rounds and the accused opened up to investigators during interrogations that he had stolen the firearm from a house at Benne Knot Street.
By A Correspondent| The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Mrs Tumisang Thabela, has said schools are on course to accomplish their syllabus requirements.
She added that most learners are ready to sit for their final exams despite numerous disruptions during an academic year that was severely affected by COVID-19.
Zimsec examinations are scheduled to start on 22 November for O- Level candidates, while the A-Level and Grade 7 examinations will commence on 29 November.
Mrs Thabela said assessments made over the past few weeks had revealed that while catching up with the syllabus was a challenge, schools around the country were now generally ready for exams.
Speaking on the sidelines of a ceremony to award Gloag High School of Bubi District, Matabeleland North with the Secretary’s Bell Award for 2018, Mrs Tumisang Thabela said:
We are checking with the children, their readiness for exams and generally they are excited and ready to move on with their lives. In terms of continual assessment, in all schools that we went to, they had done their first two activities and they are waiting for the last one.
Mrs Thabela said the ministry had been looking at possible remedies to ensure that schools in the Matabeleland region register better results, not a zero-pass rate attained by several schools during last year’s exams.
She said the best sollution was to fully implement the competency-based curriculum and fully implement assessment of learners to fully understand the child’s potential.
Critics say while Continuous Assessment Learning Activities (CALA) are a noble idea, their implementation was ill-timed as they are now putting learners and teachers under immense pressure.-statemedia
By A Correspondent| The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mrs Tumisang Thabela, has said school heads will get allowances that will be determined by the grade of their schools.
The ranks will be determined by the number of learners at the school.
She made the remarks on the sidelines of a ceremony to award Gloag High School of Bubi District, Matabeleland North with the Secretary’s Bell Award for 2018. Mrs Tumisang Thabela said:
What has happened is that schools are now classified according to their size. So, we now have what we call a Grade
One or large school which will be headed by somebody who we will call a Head One, deputised by two deputies because it’s a mega school which attracts a second deputy head. This is for 2 000 learners and more. The head will get an allowance of 25 per cent of their basic salary for heading that school.
Then the school that is in Grade Two will have between 800 and 1 999 learners. It will be headed by a Head Grade Two and a one deputy head. They will get 20 per cent of their basic salary as an allowance. Then the small school, which has been 141 and 799 learners.
Those ones will get 15 per cent of their basic salary. So, in this case, it is the school that is graded and not the head. The head takes the grade of the school and should they move to a lower graded school, they don’t carry their grade..
This happens at the backdrop of teachers’ displeasure over poor salaries. They have in the past two years embarked on periodic protests to compel the government to restore their 2018 salaries that were over US$500 on average.-statemedia

By A Correspondent- Former Zanu PF Youth Leader, Godfrey Tsenengamu, confessed evil deeds under Mnangagwa led Zanu PF party.
Tsenengamu made the confessions Saturday in Harare when he launched his political outfit, Front for Economic Emancipation in Zimbabwe (FEEZ).
Mnangagwa fired him last year for “naming and shaming” political elites and business people; he said they were choking the country’s economic recovery efforts.
He said:
I as Godfrey Tsenengamu was a member ofZANU PF. I joined that party at a time when I loved it and had an agenda to build my nation too. There are a lot of things I did when I was in Zanu PF, good and bad. I come before those whom I did wrong and ask for your forgiveness, I mean what I did wrong in thought, action and planning, may you please forgive me. I will not say what others did, but confess what I did. I am not doing this to make anyone happy, but to ask for salvation and forgiveness from God. I spoke words that divided Zimbabweans, there are people who failed to find peace during the time I was a youth in Zanu PF. I do not have blood on my hands, but I swear there are people who did not have peace in their lives because of my actions while I was in Zanu PF, Lord forgive me.
I come before all Zimbabweans in earnest. God, you are the one who knows my heart, give me strength. I am not begging you to support me, but give me an opportunity to have a new lease of life. Watch the video below for more details.
By A Correspondent- Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa is said to be having sleepless nights over reports that former Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere is working with his senior party members to remove him from power.

By A Correspondent- Darlington Manjokota (28) is admitted to Chivhu General Hospital after Police in the town unleashed dogs on him on Wednesday last week.

By A Correspondent| Former ZANU-PF youth league political commissar Godfrey Tsenengamu has officially launched his own political party, the Front for Economic Emancipation in Zimbabwe (FEEZ).
Tsenengamu has been instrumental in selling Team Lacoste brand during the factional wars that rocked the Robert Mugabe led ZANU-PF.
Prior to the coup that toppled Mugabe, Tsenengamu had been in and out of police detention as he used to hold press conferences propping up Mnangagwa.
In most cases, the police detectives from the law and order would lie in wait only to pounce at him after addressing the press.Meanwhile, Tsenengamu crossed swords months after Mnangagwa took over power and has been openly criticising him, earning himself places in detention again.
PRESIDENT Mnangagwa is not liable to civil or criminal proceedings while he is still in office and the court challenge seeking to annul his ascendency to ZANU PF’s top post in November 2017 is flawed, the party’s Secretary for Administration, Dr Obert Mpofu, has said.
This comes as ZANU PF Harare province acting chairman, Cde Goodwills Masimirembwa, has submitted that Sybeth Musengezi, who applied to the High Court to challenge President Mnangagwa’s ascendency, is not a bona fide member of the party.
Mpofu made the assertions in his founding affidavit in a notice of opposition filed at the High Court on Friday against Musengezi’s application.
In his submissions, Dr Mpofu argued that the High Court has no jurisdiction to try the President as Section 98 of the Constitution guarantees the President immunity.
“The literal import of the Section is very clear. There’s no need for any aids to interpretation of this Section. The import of Section 98 (1) is that whilst in office, the President of Zimbabwe is not liable to any civil or criminal proceedings in any court for things done or omitted to be done in his personal capacity whilst in office. The Section confers immunity to prosecution to a sitting President.”
Mpofu said Musengezi did not seek leave to sue the President as is required by rule 12 (21) of the High Court. He said the application was defective and cannot be allowed to go ahead as it falls away on filing and should be struck off the roll with costs.
Furthermore, Mpofu said Musengezi had not exhausted domestic remedies which are provided for in ZANU PF’s constitution before bringing the application to court
.On October 20 this year, Musengezi, who described himself as a ZANU PF youth member, approached the Bulawayo High Court seeking the nullification of ZANU PF’s November 19, 2017 special session of the Central Committee meeting which elected President Mnangagwa as the party’s First Secretary and President.
According to the court application, Musengezi, through his lawyer Nqobani Sithole, cited ZANU PF as the first respondent and President Mnangagwa as the second respondent. In his submissions, Cde Masimirembwa said Musengezi is not in ZANU PF structures.
“I confirm that the Applicant is not a member of the 1st Respondent in good standing. Firstly, he applied to be a member of the 1st Respondent in 2014 in Hatcliffe yet he did not reside there and was using a local address belonging to one Cde Mutimbanyoka’s mother.
It must be noted that for one to qualify as a member, they must belong to a cell within their area of residence. The party contends that Applicant has ‘dirty hands’ in respect of his claims to membership,” he said.
Masimirembwa said investigations by the party had discovered that Musengezi had been illegally planted into ZANU PF’s structures by fugitive former national political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere.
“It has currently been discovered that the Applicant is the branch deputy secretary to which no elections were held for branch officials other than the Chairman.‘‘This means that anything else has not been verified and its origins and authenticity questionable.
It’s believed, on investigation by the DCC security that reports to me as Chairman of DCC 4 Harare and also Acting Chairman of the Harare Province, that Applicant was “planted “into the relevant district, without the relevant credentials for political and other reasons by the former Secretary for the Commissariat, Saviour Kasukuwere, to whom he is allegedly related.”
According to Cde Masimirembwa, Musengezi belongs to another political party known as Front for Economic Emancipation in Zimbabwe (FEEZ).
“In June of the same year, he was seen to be a member of another political front by participating in their first press conference. He uploaded a video on his Facebook page wearing FEEZ regalia and denounced and disrespected the 1st Respondent and its First Secretary, the 2nd Respondent in the matter. The video footages are attached . . .” he said.
CIVIL servants will begin receiving their annual bonuses later this month following rounds of negotiations between public sector unions and the Government.
While the Government has committed to paying bonuses beginning this month, negotiations over how much will be paid out are still ongoing.
Govt Says Civil Servants To Get Bonuses This Month | TRUTH or NONSENSE?
Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Professor Paul Mavima said: “We are definitely going to be paying bonuses this year, but what is left to be decided is the quantum which will be paid out.
“As such, civil servants are set to start receiving their bonuses this month on a date to be announced later because as of now we have not yet completed our own discussions within Government.”
Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions secretary-general David Dzatsunga confirmed the development.
“Yes, we have been talking and the employer has made a commitment to pay bonuses,” he said.
“However, we are not really sure about how much we are talking about here because a decision is yet to be made on figures.
“But we have proposed that the bonus should also include allowances because the salary alone is too little and the bonus will not be much either.”
Finance and Economic Development Minister Prof Mthuli Ncube recently said civil servants should expect their bonuses on time.
“There is always a 13th cheque for civil servants, always, so they can expect one, we have not changed that. It will be paid on time,” he said.
This year, the Government has been making regular salary adjustments to its employees’ remuneration to cushion them against the rising cost of living.
In July, civil servants received a salary increase of between 45 and 50 percent.
That increase came after another 25 percent adjustment in April. -Sunday Mail
By A Correspondent -President Emmerson Mnangagwa was fired from both Zanu PF and the government on 6 November 2017.
The then vice president was fired by his long time ally and mentor, the late President Robert Mugabe, on allegations of disloyalty and inconsistency in executing duties and responsibilities.
Below is Mugabe’s statement issued when he fired the now Zimbabwean leader:

RAYMOND Nyamayedenga and his wife Prudence expected their “twin” babies to be born towards the end of the year.
A recent foetal ultrasound scan had confirmed the presence of two foetuses in Prudence’s womb and delivery was expected around mid-December.
But the babies had other plans.
Raymond Nyamayedenga and his wife Prudence with their triplets
On Sunday October 10, almost two months before expected date of the delivery, the babies announced their arrival in a unexpected fashion.
That afternoon, in the searing Goromonzi heat, 37-year-old Prudence started having mild lower abdominal and back pains.
She thought the pain was a result of doing a lot of household chores. She decided to take a rest.
But just as she began taking her break, the pain took a sharp turn for the worse. She immediately alerted Raymond, who fortunately was around, having taken a few days from work.
He quickly rushed to find transport to ferry his wife to the clinic.Unbeknown to the couple, Prudence was already in labour.
Suddenly, she began feeling weak. She knew the time had come.
Using the little energy she still had left, she rushed outside and grabbed a blanket from a nearby laundry line and prepared her bed in preparation for the delivery of her babies.
Within a few minutes, she had delivered her first child. “I got back just as she delivered the first one,” narrated Raymond. “I felt a chill down my spine and got numb for a moment.”
Where childbirth is concerned, most fathers-to-be are only prepared for providing emotional support to their partners during what will likely be an excruciating experience.
Very few are, however, prepared to act as the actual midwife.
But in this case, Raymond got more than what most fathers-to-be would have bargained for.
Faced with the daunting task, he courageously bit the bullet to save the mother and his children.
“Something told me to act fast and be there for her, so I took the baby, cut the umbilical cord and wrapped her up,” he added.
“Minutes later, the second baby came and I had to receive it, cut the cord and wrap him up.”
Much to the couple’s surprise, Prudence was not done. A third baby as on its way.
“Soon, a third baby and tiniest one, who is a girl, was delivered.”
After a two-hour-long ordeal, babies Tania at 2,7kg, Trevor weighing 2,4kg and Tamia at 1,8kg had been delivered safely.
Raymond quickly cleaned his wife and the babies before proceeding to the nearest clinic.
Staff at the clinic confirmed that the mother and her babies were all fine before they were admitted for routine overnight observation.
The following morning, Raymond took his family back home before proceeding to Borrowdale, Harare, where he was employed as a gardener.
Ordinarily, one would think that this would be the time Raymond needed his job the most.
But he had travelled only to quit his job, pack up his belongings and return to his rural home.
“I have to be there for my wife; she is still to fully recover, so I had to sacrifice to help her take care of the family,” he said.
“We already have two primary schoolgoing children and two others who need to be taken care of in addition to the triplets, so I would not let her do all that alone.”
Raymond earned US$40 a month from his job as a gardener.
Recounting his experience, he said: “I did not know that women go through such a gruelling experience in labour.
“Since that day, I appreciate my wife more.
“That experience helped me realise how strong and precious women are and to see the value in them.”
He still has vivid memories of Prudence’s loud groaning and screaming from severe labour pains, an experience he said has transformed him into a “new” man.
Inside the couple’s incomplete three-roomed home in Magadzo Village, Goromonzi, a large black pot perched on flaring fire stands filled with boiling water.
A cursory glance around the house tells the story of a household surviving from hand-to-mouth.
“Things are still tough. We had not prepared enough because we thought there was still time, and worse still, we did not expect three babies at once,” said Prudence.
“I cannot breastfeed them all at once, so I need supplementary milk, but it is too expensive and we cannot afford it.”
In spite of their hardships, the Nyamayedenga’s remain cheerful and joyful of their triple dose of blessings. -Sunday Mail
Tinashe Sambiri|Zanu PF has resorted to violence because the former revolutionary party party’s support base is dwindling, MDC Alliance leader, President Nelson Chamisa has said.
The vibrant leader has dismissed claims that Mashonaland Central Province is a Zanu PF stronghold.
President Chamisa is holding community engagement meetings in Guruve and Mvurwi…

It’s a myth, a lie that Mash Central is their stronghold. They just use force &violence.Nobody deploys violence in their stronghold.Violence is evidence of lack of support.

A murdered 15-year-old Nkayi girl was buried with a knife lodged inside her body.
The teen was stabbed to death allegedly during a fight over a boyfriend buried their daughter with the knife used in the murder case lodged in her body, sending shivers across the community.

The family has since demanded 15 cattle from the families of the two accused girls, the one who supplied the knife and the one who delivered the fatal blow.
Buhlebenkosi Moyo died on 28 October after a fight which police say was over a boyfriend but the families disputed that and said it was over books.
She was buried last Wednesday in the absence of the two accused girl’s families who snubbed the ceremony.
The Moyo family says body viewing had to be scrapped as her body was at an advanced state of decomposition. Investigations by Sunday News have revealed that although the body of Buhlebenkosi was transported all the way from Nkayi to Bulawayo for postmortem, it was never done.
Sunday News visited the family homestead on Thursday and found the girl’s father away as he was said to have accompanied the late girl`s mother to her family homestead.
Buhlebenkosi`s mother who is based in South Africa had come to the country for the funeral. From the family and community members’ account, events leading to the death of the girl and what transpired after could be a perfect script for an award winning movie.
An uncle to the late Thokozani Secondary School pupil, Mr Joburt Moyo said events leading to the death of his niece started on 25 October when the girls fought at the school.
“I was building a house at my brother`s homestead and the girl who supplied the knife came and told me that she had been sent by her elders (names withheld to protect the identity of the accused minors) to show him the injuries she had suffered during a fight with Buhle. I asked her why they were fighting but she just mumbled. I then told her to report the matter to the teachers so that they could address the problem since it started when they were at school.
“Then on Saturday on 30 October Buhlebenkosi went to the grinding mill owned by a relative of the girl who supplied the knife and when she got there she was interrogated over the fighting.
Our daughter had to abandon the bag of maize there as the person did not accept that his granddaughter is the one who started the fight and she was only forced to defend herself.
She reported to her grandmother on arrival what had transpired and was troubled by the interrogation as the person had also asked ukuthi usithathangaphi isibindi sokutshaya omunye umntwana umkhiphe igazi(Where do you get the guts to beat our daughter until she bleeds),”said Mr Moyo.
Mr Moyo said the family was shocked when they received the news of the stabbing on Thursday and Buhlebenkosi`s father rushed with a wheelbarrow to the scene with the hope of rushing her to the clinic but found her already dead.
“Our daughter died around 3pm and we had to hire a car to fetch police officers at Gwelutshena Police Station as they had no car. They only arrived at the scene around 11pm due to distance and took statements.
From the statement given to police in our presence, the girl who had the knife said she carried it to school for days before our daughter was stabbed.
“She had stab wounds on the hands, nose, and mouth and on her left breast and the blade broke and remained stuck inside. We spent more than 24 hours with the body at the scene waiting for the police vehicle to it for a post-mortem.
The car came at 4pm on Friday.
“We are told they had challenges putting the body in the mortuary at Nkayi District Hospital and Inyathi Hospital mortuary as the mortuaries were said to have broken down. We also understand the police car transporting the body broke down at Ngwigwizi River and they spent the night there with the body and only reached Bulawayo on Monday when the body was already at an advanced state of decomposition. Buhlebenkosi`s mother came from South Africa after the tragedy .She saw the body at UBH and said maggots were feeding on it,” said Mr Moyo.
The body was later collected by a local funeral parlour. He said the pathologist who was supposed to attend to the body “did not touch her and we buried amathambo (bones) with the knife still lodged in her body”.
Mr Moyo said while the body was in the police, they met as a family and demanded that the families of two girls who stabbed their daughter and the one who supplied the knife compensate them with 15 cattle.
“The two families did not come to mourn with us and we had to summon them to our homestead where we put our demand to them as we felt disrespected.
The family whose daughter killed our child has already brought six cows while the other family is yet to. We buried our daughter in their absence but we are in great fear of what will befall us due to the unremoved knife blade,” he said.
The grandmother, Mrs Siluzile Moyo, said she passed out on receiving news about the death of her granddaughter who only returned home from South Africa in September after having gone there when schools closed due to Covid-19. She said the three were friends and would spend time together.
“After her death they sent some people to come and inform me. When they broke news I just went blank. I regained strength and staggered to the scene to find my granddaughter long gone. I am the one who raised her and she was an ever smiling child. She did not deserve to die under those circumstances,” she said as she burst into tears.
She denied the allegations that the fight was over a boyfriend as the said boyfriend was Buhlebenkosi`s blood relative.
Historian and cultural expert Mr Pathisa Nyathi said the family was right to be concerned about the knife which was not removed as the spirit of the girl may come back to haunt the family.
“Generally no metallic object can be buried with a body even items like buttons, rings, some styles done in the head are removed from the body before burial. It is worse in this case because you are talking about part of a knife which was buried with the body.
“The girl`s spirit will be a troubled and angered one which can spell doom for the family. There seems to be a bigger issue than the knife which doctors did not remove from the body,” he said.
Bulawayo provincial medical director Dr Maphios Siamuchembu apologized to the Moyo family over the pain they have been put through by failure to remove the knife.
“My opinion is that this post-mortem was either not done at all or it was done inadequately. As a Ministry we owe this family an apology. I appreciate the difficulties that our staff work under sometimes, but our community deserves the best from us under the circumstances. The very least would have been to explain the findings or the difficulties encountered that prevented the procedure to the family,” said Dr Siamuchembu.
He said his office will carry out thorough investigations with the aim of solving such occurrences in future.
A relative to the girl who supplied the knife said they will pay the cows that were demanded by the Moyo family as they fear uzimu/ngozi (avenging spirits).
“I am not in a good state of mind to talk about this issue but I want to believe that had we as parents addressed the matter when it began we could have avoided this. Now that it has happened so many stories are flying all over and as a family it is affecting us.
We will pay what the Moyo family demanded .We are close relatives with them and this has made us prisoners and we are at their mercy,” said the relative.
Police said they were investigating the matter and culprits will soon be brought to court. — Chronicle

Vimbai is a poultry producer and she is also a crocodile farmer…
A crocodile is a frightful creature but Vimbai thinks otherwise.
Below she narrates how she is running her business ventures although the economic environment is tough.
“I am a poultry farmer who mainly specializes in raising Broilers ; Free Range Chickens and a bit Of Layers. But most of the income comes from broilers which comprise the Cobb and Ross type.
The eggs we hatch on our own are mainly free range – we collect from the mothers and when in bulk then strategically start the process of hatching,” Vimbai boldly declares…
“Before that the handling of the laid eggs is of importance to us as that process determines the success rate we will pull out after. Then for the good mothers – we allow them to hatch and literally nurse as well as look after their chicks so they create a bond with their offspring and not lose interest after of always having their eggs taken from them.
I started poultry farming in 2015 and this was a trade that was looked down upon.I remember vividly being trolled on Facebook for being in this trade cause then it was regarded as a cheap hussle.
But I remember way back then we used to sell for 6.50 a bird yet 100 birds would generate 650 and from that you could pay back expenses on feed and buy the 100 chicks and still be able to buy another extra 100 from the profit and feed as well.
I remember even way back then Profeeds recommended 6 backs to fruitation for a batch of 100 not the 7 they recommend now.”
About crocodile farming Vimbai says : “I also happen to be a crocodile farmer which is a trade I was mentored into 2 years later after I had started Poultry.
Our plot is situated in Darwendale and though still not yet as big as we wish to be we are producing reasonable volumes both trades.Like in any normal functional businesses after Covid – we have quite a number of challenges we are facing but we soldier on.My vision is setting up my own tannery so that instead of just producing raw materials we graduate to processing so that we have products made from my merchandise which can also be branded with my logo.I also envision building and setting up a school for interested crocodile farmers so that they learn and benefit from the knowledge I have acquired in this trade since 2017.
This is basically a white dominated trade and it would benefit us a people if we have quite a number of people who will run this trade. The demand for crocodile skin is very high since the Italians are well known for being fashionistas who make high quality handbags; belts; jackets ; wallets ; key rings; boots.
A certain portion of Russia has high demand of crocodile skin since they wear boots that are specifically made from Croc skin; The Market has a lot of opportunities it’s just penetrating into it and not looking within local and regionally only! A HUNTING expedition in Gukuranenzara Mountain, Buhera, ended tragically when two brothers — aged nine and 14 — died after being bitten by a black mamba (rovambira) last Saturday.
Tawananyasha (9) and Tinotenda Newman Mujeyi (14) of Gandidze Village under Chief Makumbe, died on their way to Murambinda Mission Hospital moments after being bitten by the venomous reptile.
“They (Mujeyi brothers) went for a hunting expedition in the company of their friends last Saturday. The two were bitten by a black mamba during the expedition. One of their friends, aged six, informed us that the two were bitten by a black mamba.
“On their way home, they fell down and their colleague reported the matter to the duo’s father, Mr Blessing Mujeyi. The two died on their way to Murambinda Mission Hospital,” said Asst Insp Chinyoka.

Warriors star Marvellous Nakamba featured for struggling Aston Villa last night in their 0-1 defeat to Southampton at St Mary’s, their fifth loss on the trot.
Stuart Armstrong’s third minute strike condemned the Claret and Blue to their fifth consecutive loss in the Premier League, a setback which has once again put the position of head coach Dean Smith under scrutiny.
The last time Villa won a game in the English top flight, was when they beat Manchester United at Old Trafford, back in September.
Nakamba started in midfield alongside John McGinn but was replaced by Jacob Ramsey just after the hour-mark.
Pressure continues to mouth on Smith, who admitted after the game that he has no idea what the future holds for him.
“I have no idea (if I’ll be given more time). I don’t have any control over that so I’m never worried about that. I concentrate on my job day-to-day and I’ll continue to do that. An Ipswich Town town official has sensationally-claimed that that Macauley Bonne cannot travel to Zimbabwe for next week’s World Cup qualifiers because the high temperatures in Southern Africa do not suit his ‘medical condition’ hence its not advisable for him to play football in those conditions.
The in-form striker was included in the 25-man squad set to do battle with South Africa and Ethiopian, named by interim coach Norman Mapeza yesterday but once again, he has ignored the call citing strange reasons.
“You are being advised that Macauley Bonne can’t make this time around and the reasons are as follows; Mr. Bonne has a medical exemption stating that he should not play football in conditions of high temperature. Given the current temperatures in Southern Africa at this time, it is not advisable for Mr. Bonne to make the trip,” club secretary Stuart Hayton wrote to Warriors team manager Wellington Mpandare.
Bonne is yet to honor the call to represent the Warriors at senior level since a Zimbabwean passport was secured for him back in November 2019.

By Masimba Ndiraya | I have just read a piece of hogwash written by some clueless Chete Chete fanatic that Mkoma Dougie was snubbed in Mutare. We want to put it loud and clear: the more you try to demonize this man the more support we will give him.
Mwonzora- and Komichi
Only a few days ago we thronged the Beit Hall in Sakubva to listen to Simboti. I am really proud to be related to him. He is humble, smart and very accommodating. He speaks the people issues. Some people always talk about themselves. It was your clueless CCC leader who came to our province and started all forms of drama. He is always getting shot by bullets which always miss him. He is noisy. Who doesn’t know that all that drama was meant to get the attention of the UN envoy?
Who does not know that these social media noise makers are afraid of Mkoma Dougie? He clobbered Chamisa for the post of Secretary General in 2014. Oh by the way, we in Manicaland gave Mkoma the nomination. You are now trying to falsify history by saying Tsvangirai rigged for Mwonzora.
He wrote the constitution. We supported him because of the good job he did at COPAC. He employed 300 youngsters from the MDC without favour. How many people did your noisy leaders employ during GNU where they were Ministers? He fought for electoral reforms up to 2018, bringing the BVR for the first time in Zimbabwe through his skills. During the GNU he was jailed at Mutare Remand together with wana Sekuru Nyakauru. We were supporting him while he was in that jail. Mkoma Dougie is brave. He has always contested in rural areas where your noisy leaders are afraid to go.
We are proud that Mkoma has written a book with others published in Europe. Just recently Mkoma said let’s depoliticise covid. He was publicly vaccinated while your leader hibernated like a little polar bear. Now see the results. Victoria Falls has been declared safe to host international conferences. He led his team to meet the UN envoy. And what happened? The envoy has said that the sanctions must go and Zimbabweans must have dialogue. I know dialogue is coming. Leaders are identified with key phrases that show their wisdom or lack of it. Mkoma Dougie is known for the phrase *RATIONAL DISPUTATION.* Others are known for the phrase KUDIRA JECHA. By A Correspondent-The Government has announced new guidelines for A2 land permit holders, which must be followed to avoid repossession of the farms. These include the need for the permit holder to settle on the land within 30 days and to have a full-time farm manager on-site within three months. This was revealed by the acting lands development acting director in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement Cephas Magauze. He was addressing senior lands officers from across the country attending a workshop on land management and distribution in Gweru on Monday. He said: There are conditions attached to the land permit. The permit holder must take up permanent residence within 30 days, the permit holder must appoint a manager to take up permanent residence in three months. The permit holder must undertake to initiate development in accordance with the five-year development plan. So, there are rules of engagement of which if they are breached, the farm will be forfeited by the State.
He said the permit holder shall not sublet or subdivide part of the land without written consent from the lands minister. In case there is room for a joint venture, the permit holder must also seek consent from the Minister. Said Magaudze: Converting agricultural land to residential stands or other business should be done with permission from the Minister. Poaching of wild animals is prohibited because farming is not hunting and hunting is not farming. The natural resources on that land be it trees must be protected and no wanton cutting down of trees will be permitted. The Minister can cancel the permit if any of the conditions are breached by the permit holder.
Magaudze said if the permit holder fails to produce anything in two successive agriculture seasons, the permit will be cancelled. He said: So, there is no room for holding on the land for speculative purposes or showboating. It is tantamount to failing to utilise the land and this leads to cancellation of the permit. Magaudze also said a new permit with improved security features is now being issued to farmers to further curtail illegal land allocations. He said: We have introduced new securitised land permits for the A2 model settlement permit. It now has security features so that there is no room for manipulation of the permit. There is a fidelity seal and serial number with special reflective ink, security feature embedded on the permit, underground micro text at the back, the Minister has to sign the permit and there is also a long serial number and a hologram seal. The more securitised land offer permit is an effort to flush out corruption in the land redistribution programme which is reversing the gains of the land reform program.
Harare magistrate Mrs Tafadzwa Mhiti has dismissed an application for discharge at the close of the State case by Norton legislator Temba Mliswa saying he has a case to answer.
Mliswa is facing allegations of violating Covid-19 lockdown measures by holding an ‘illegal’ gathering. In dismissing the application, Mrs Mhiti said he must be put to his defence so that he explains to the court the service which he was providing to the gathering which he alleges was an essential one.
“The accused must be out to his defence to prove that he was indeed providing an essential service to the gathering. Therefore, the application is dismissed,” she said. During cross examination, the witness, who is the investigating officer confirmed that all those gathered at Mliswa’s house on the day in question were essential service providers. He also confirmed that the people were gathered at a private residence and that the regulations do not apply to private residences.
By A Correspondent- Outspoken Norton Legislator Temba Mliswa (Independent), has paraded pictures with Tafadzwa Tamangani’s wife, Janet, and said that the two were long time family friends.
Tafadzwa Tamangani is accusing Mliswa of snatching Janet from him.
Tamangani made a claim when he appeared before Harare magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure to answer domestic violence charges.
In a threaded tweet, Mliswa accused The Herald, which published the story, of pursuing an evil agenda against him.
The controversial Member of Parliament also accused Tamangani of being “no gooder, whose life revolves around sitting around, going to the gym and nothing else.”
Mliswa also claimed that Tamangani has an erection problem and has had the problem for 10 years after one of his alleged girlfriends cast an evil spell on him.
Mliswa said he and Janet have known each other since their parents were friends and as such, they have a close friendship.
He revealed that they used to live together in Waterfalls and have done business together at some point in time. Said Mliswa:
I would like to set the record straight here on the malicious& half-baked yellow story by @HeraldZimbabwe.
Janet Tamangani & I have known each other since our parents were friends. They were both in Zambia. We lived in Waterfalls together & both of us went to Lord Malvern.
At some point, I even assisted her to go to the UK. I have always been a person with whom she talks candidly.
We have also done business together because she is a sharp business person. We have been that close. I’m an uncle to their kids and we know each other very well.
I have known about problems in their marriage for years and it’s a travesty of truth to allege that I caused the problems.
The husband has always been a no-gooder, whose life revolves around sitting around, going to the gym and nothing else.
He used to draw money clandestinely from their accounts. He has always abused her, beat her up and I have previously told Janet to take the kids to boarding school so as to avoid the toxic atmosphere at home.
I advised them about Rydings school where my own kids go so that I could also assist when they couldn’t. When she was beaten this time I advised her to go and report to the police. That is the reason her husband is angry at me. He is a wife-beater, lazy and useless.
That she came to my place with her kids after being beaten is nothing unusual because I’m like her big brother. I told the husband that if he followed her to my place I would deal with him as a man.
… For ten years their bedroom has been closed because he has an erection problem. The reason is that he went out with many girlfriends until one of them concocted some juju on him. Now he has an erection problem. Is that my problem?
Even if she were to get involved with someone else can she be blamed? He is all about suits, keeping a long beard and nothing in the bedroom. Ndiyani mkadzi anogarira sadza? Even if she were to go out with someone can she be blamed?
For him to soil me like this he will have to provide evidence or I will sue him. He has failed himself. I have actually worked hard supporting him to keep the marriage but divorce began in 2018. The marriage has been done for years.
At one point I sat with them & tried to make things work but it failed. He sees me as the one who failed their marriage only because I have supported his wife.
Ndakatomuchengetera mkadzi from makoronyera thinking he would thank me but he has failed now ndotosiyawo atorwe nevamwe.
I have always been clear about whom I date. I don’t date people’s wives. They have long had problems& it’s his lack of introspection & maturity that he would blame an outsider for this. I’m self-respecting enough to know my friends from those I date. Janet is a friend.
It’s unfortunate that rags such as The @Herald, in their misguided, political and polarised efforts to tarnish me, jumped onto a tabloid headline and missed the actual issue.
The state publication has an agenda against me because I have constantly unsettled their beloved most of whom have brought this country to its knees.
That is why their articles about me are always lacking in terms of standards and professionalism.
@HeraldZimbabwe Their articles are mere hatchet jobs lacking the spine of journalistic etiquette & heavy on unverified negative insinuations against those they are made to believe are opponents. The prime objective of their articles is to taint me.
A whole article founded on an uninterrogated one-liner!! However, I cannot be tainted by a publication that has lost its spine and is now a mere PR yellow paper heavy on puerile confetti and lacks the rigorous substance any self-respecting paper ought to have.
They never sought for my side in the story& it lacks balance. It’s the hurried& excitable creation of a limited paper that is down in the gutter.
@ZimMorning_Post did the same in the Susan [Mutami] case but as with all hatchet jobs, you can’t put a good man down on such inanities.
It’s a dire indictment of how the media standards at the @HeraldZimbabwe have fallen that such a paper, expected to be the standard-bearer in the industry, carries such trash as stories.
I would like to set the record straight here on the malicious& half-baked yellow story by @HeraldZimbabwe . Janet Tamangani& I have known each other since our parents were friends. They were both in Zambia. We lived in Waterfalls together& both of us went to Lord Malvern.
