Zimbabwean opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has strongly asserted that the use of force should never be the means to lead the people.
Chamisa condemned the recent attack on Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine by suspected government agents, underscoring his commitment to non-violent political change.
In a statement this week, Chamisa said:
“I have just spoken with my dear brother in Uganda, @HEBobiwine. I am relieved to learn that he is recovering well and remains unshaken by the recent cowardly attack. His spirit is strong, and his resolve is unwavering. Such acts of violence have no place in our politics in Africa.
Our politics should be driven by values, aspirations, and a genuine commitment to serving the people. For too long, Africa has been plagued by adversarial and corrosive politics.
The #NextAfrica generation dares to be different. We stand for a new politics where guns are silenced, and dialogue, respect, and the will of the people take center stage.
We stand in full solidarity with @HEBobiwine, the people of Uganda, and all those fighting for freedom around the world. Your toil and passion for liberty will nourish and strengthen the tree of freedom.
Your courage and determination inspire us all. May God continue to preserve and bless you all.”
Chamisa also highlighted the scarcity of true, genuine leaders, referencing the profound example set by Jesus Christ in John 15:13 and Ezekiel 22:30, who laid down his life for others.
He emphasized that extraordinary leadership should be marked by sacrifice and service.
Masvingo, Zimbabwe — A storm of controversy has erupted over the eviction of more than 40 workers from the Shabanie-Mashava Mine (SMM) by Great Zimbabwe University (GZU), allegedly to prepare for a high-profile graduation ceremony next month, which will be attended by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The evictions come as a bitter irony for the displaced workers, given Mnangagwa’s historical involvement with SMM when he served as Minister of Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. The workers, some of whom have been residing in mine-owned houses for years without compensation, now face an uncertain future, the Masvingo Mirror reports.
GZU, which acquired the mine property in 2012, has claimed the evictions are part of routine property renovations, not preparations for the presidential visit. “We have been evicting since we purchased the property from the mine. Many claiming to be former employees were never employed by SMM,” said GZU spokesperson Anderson Chipatiso. He maintained that only a few genuine former employees remained, and the university needed the accommodation for staff and students.
However, former mine workers and local leaders dispute GZU’s narrative. “These evictions are unfair. The workers have never been paid their benefits since they were laid off in 2009, and now they are being forcefully removed without any compensation,” said Steven Togarepi Matongo, a former worker and representative of the Gaths Mine Chemberi Residents Association. “Riot police are evicting people and confiscating their belongings. Some residents have been arrested simply for trying to recover their possessions.”
Ward 3 Councillor Korowa Manyame confirmed that around 40 families have been evicted and are now stranded, their belongings scattered around Balmain shops. The affected families are now seeking legal recourse in Masvingo.
Adding to the tension, similar evictions have been reported in the Kingmine area, where former SMM workers have been displaced to make room for Chinese nationals involved in chrome mining operations. The situation underscores the precarious position of workers who have been left without compensation or a place to call home.
With just weeks to go until the graduation ceremony, the evictions have sparked outrage and raised questions about the government’s treatment of vulnerable communities. Attempts to reach Masvingo West Member of Parliament Ezra Ruvai Chadzamira for comment were unsuccessful, while local police have denied knowledge of the case.
As the controversy continues, all eyes are on President Mnangagwa, whose involvement in both the mine’s past and the upcoming event has put him at the center of yet another political storm.
By Dorrothy Moyo | ZimEye | Starlink, the satellite internet service from SpaceX, has officially launched in Zimbabwe. The global availability map on Starlink’s website was updated late Friday night, confirming that the service is now live in Zimbabwe. This long-anticipated launch brings new internet options to Zimbabweans, who can now purchase Starlink service directly from the company’s website or from local authorized resellers.
The service’s arrival is seen as a significant development in a country where internet prices have been high, and availability has been limited by existing providers. The launch in Zimbabwe follows closely after Starlink’s recent rollout in neighboring Botswana earlier this week.
Starlink Pricing in Zimbabwe
According to the Starlink website, the standard kit is priced at USD 350, while the Starlink Mini kit is available for USD 200. The monthly subscription fee for the basic residential unlimited data package is USD 50, whereas the Starlink Mini package costs USD 30 per month. Frampol has been announced as a local authorized partner for Starlink in Zimbabwe.
How Starlink Works
Starlink provides internet access via satellite, requiring users to install a dish that must have a clear view of the sky, similar to a DStv dish. The service is available in any location with an unobstructed view of the sky, making it ideal for areas where traditional network coverage is limited.
Subscriptions can be paid online using a prepaid Visa or Mastercard debit card, or through local authorized resellers. The service offers unlimited data, which is particularly advantageous for families, small businesses, schools, mines, farms, and tourism destinations in remote areas.
Competitive Landscape
The arrival of Starlink has prompted established internet providers in Zimbabwe to revise their prices and packages. Econet, the country’s largest mobile internet provider, has introduced an LTE unlimited data service for USD 45 per month, while other providers like Utande, Liquid, TelOne, Powertel, and Telco have launched promotional packages to stay competitive.
Additional Information and Delivery Details
Starlink has confirmed that service in Zimbabwe went live just before midnight on September 6, 2024. Users in the country can expect download speeds of up to 200 Mbps, a significant improvement over current offerings by local internet providers.
While the exact version of the Starlink kits to be rolled out in Zimbabwe is still unknown, customers can choose between the standard kit and the mini kit. Delivery of the Starlink equipment to Zimbabwean customers will be managed by a courier, although the specific partner for local deliveries has yet to be announced.
A deposit of USD 50 is required to reserve the service, with the remaining balance payable upon confirmation of the order. The company has also indicated that due to capacity constraints in some areas, it may take additional time to ship the devices to customers in those regions.
As Zimbabweans celebrate the arrival of this new internet service, many will be watching closely to see how the local market adapts to Starlink’s competitive pricing and the impact it will have on internet accessibility across the country.- ZimEye
Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe’s former president, passed away on September 6, 2019, at the age of 95. His death prompted a reexamination of his complex legacy, a blend of revolutionary heroism and authoritarian rule. Mugabe’s nearly four-decade tenure at the helm of Zimbabwe remains one of the most debated subjects in modern African history.
Rise to Power
Mugabe’s journey began in the struggle for liberation from British colonial rule and white-minority rule in Rhodesia, which later became Zimbabwe.
As the leader of the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU), he became a symbol of resistance against oppression.
His contributions to the independence movement earned him significant admiration both within Zimbabwe and internationally.
In 1980, Mugabe assumed power as Prime Minister after a successful liberation struggle, which was marked by widespread support for his promises of equality and national unity.
The Vision of Utopia
Initially, Mugabe’s leadership appeared to align with the democratic ideals of post-colonial governance.
His government introduced several progressive reforms aimed at improving the lives of Zimbabweans, including land redistribution programs and efforts to improve education and healthcare. These reforms, particularly in the early years, earned him a reputation as a visionary leader dedicated to his country’s development.
The Downfall
However, the latter part of Mugabe’s presidency was marred by increasing authoritarianism and corruption. By the late 1990s and early 2000s, his government began to show signs of significant strain.
The land reform program, which was supposed to correct colonial injustices, became notorious for its chaotic implementation and led to widespread violence and economic instability.
The seizure of white-owned commercial farms resulted in a drastic decline in agricultural production, which was a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s economy.
Political repression grew more severe as Mugabe’s grip on power tightened. Opposition leaders faced harassment, and allegations of electoral fraud and human rights abuses became rampant.
The economy deteriorated into one of the worst hyperinflations in history, devastating the lives of ordinary Zimbabweans.
The Fall and Legacy
Mugabe’s presidency came to an end in November 2017 following a military intervention and widespread protests.
The dramatic exit was both a testament to his enduring influence and a stark acknowledgment of his governance’s failures.
His departure opened a new chapter for Zimbabwe, but the scars of his rule lingered, affecting the country’s political and economic landscape for years to come.
In evaluating Mugabe’s legacy, one must grapple with the duality of his impact. To some, he remains a hero who fought against colonial oppression and sought to uplift his people.
To others, he is a villain whose long rule led to significant suffering and decline. The truth of his legacy is likely a blend of these perspectives, reflecting both his achievements and his profound failures.
Mugabe’s life and presidency encapsulate the complexity of post-colonial leadership in Africa, where the promise of liberation can sometimes yield unintended and tragic consequences.
As Zimbabwe continues to navigate its future, the lessons from Mugabe’s era will undoubtedly influence the discourse on governance, democracy, and national development.
Kenya national team coach Engin Firat has slammed Senegalese referee Adalbert Diouf who took charge of their Friday’s 2025 Afcon Qualifiers Group J opener against Zimbabwe.
The Harambe Stars played a goalless draw against the Warriors in a match played at Mandela Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.
Speaking after the match, Firat said Khama Billiat and Gerald Takwara were supposed to get red cards for dangerous play.
Takwara only received a yellow card for a crude challenge against Amos Nondi in the 66th minute.
Billiat, who got his first booking in the 23rd minute, survived a second caution later in the second half.
The coach was also irked by Diouf’s decision to turn down a penalty claim by Austin Odhiambo.
He told the press: “The referee should not help a team on the pitch.
“There were so many situations where I had no idea what he was seeing. Takwara should have been shown a red card for a dangerous foul in the second half.”
“Billiat should have been sent off for a second bookable offense. Austin was fouled in the box, yet nothing was given. Why is it always us?”
The gaffer added: “It was not okay what happened today (Friday). I am not happy with the referee. To improve football, the referee should not side with teams that are only defending and not playing.”

ZANU PF Youth Leader Taurai Kandishaya Claims Saviour Kasukuwere is ‘Younger’ in Party Rank
Harare, Zimbabwe – September 7, 2024
By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | ZANU PF Youth League leader Taurai Kandishaya has stirred controversy by declaring that Saviour Kasukuwere, a former National Commissar of the ruling party and current contender against President Emmerson Mnangagwa, is “younger” than him in terms of party rank. Kandishaya, who is 32 years old, made the statement during a heated exchange on social media, asserting that Kasukuwere, despite being 54 years old, lacks his experience and rank within the party.
Kandishaya labelled Tyson’s younger
Kandishaya took to his Facebook page, responding to a comment by Elijah Mangwengwende, who suggested that Kandishaya is “too young for high-level politics.” In his response, Kandishaya retorted, “He [Kasukuwere] is way younger than me. I rose through party ranks, he was sneaked in.”
This public exchange comes amid heightened tensions within ZANU PF, as Kandishaya also warned party members and external forces against attempting to undermine the party’s unity through social media. In a separate post, Kandishaya reaffirmed his commitment to defend the party from those he accuses of sowing division, directly naming Saviour Kasukuwere and his allies.
Kasukuwere, who served as National Commissar before being ousted in 2017, is seen by some as a potential challenger to President Mnangagwa’s leadership. Kandishaya’s comments reflect the internal power struggles and generational tensions within ZANU PF as the party navigates its future.
With this latest development, it is clear that the battle for influence within Zimbabwe’s ruling party is intensifying, revealing deep divisions between the old guard and emerging leaders.- ZimEye

By Crime and Courts Reporter- There was drama at a Bulawayo lodge after a local man secretly installed a tracker on his wife’s phone and busted her in a shower with her lover.
“Upon arrival at the lodge, he just barged into their room and caught the pair naked in the shower. He then subjected the pair to a barrage of blows and kicks. In the next scene, the man violently attacks his naked wife, dragging her across the hallway by pulling her hair. During the ensuing chaos, the boyfriend fled the room, stark naked, clutching his clothes,” a source from the lodge told B Metro.
Normalcy only returned when security guards intervened to restrain the man and prevent him from further assaulting his wife.
The man reportedly phoned the wife’s relatives, who arrived and took the woman home.
The source said the dramatic incident also affected other couples who had booked rooms at the lodge to escape the cold temperatures that had been plaguing the city on the day in question.
By Political Reporter- Self-imposed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Sengezo Tshabangu and the Zanu PF party will share ZWG 70 million under the Political Parties Finance Act.
Zanu PF, will receive ZWG 47.9 million, while CCC will be allocated ZWG 22.1 million.
The distribution of funds is based on each party’s performance in the most recent election, with government funding calculated according to the percentage of votes received.
To qualify for this financial support, parties must secure at least 5% of the total votes cast in the election.
Tshabangu, who is the leader of the opposition in Parliament and CCC’s self-declared interim secretary-general, will most likely receive the party’s share of funds as he is the only opposition politician whose authority to nominate or recall representatives is recognised by the State.
Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Ziyambi Ziyambi Friday, announced the disbursement of the funds through General Notice 1377 of 2024.
Reads the notice:
IT is hereby notified, in terms of section 3(2) of the Political Parties (Finance) Act [Chapter 2:11], that the total amount of moneys payable to political parties in respect of the year beginning 1st January, 2024, and ending on the 31st of December, 2024, is seventy million ZIG dollars only.
The money shall be disbursed to political parties that qualify in terms of section 3(3) of the Act as follows-
(a) forty-seven million eight hundred and eighty-three thousand five hundred ZiG dollars (ZiG 47 883 500,00) shall be paid to the Zimbabwe African National Union (Patriotic Front) ZANU (PF) which received 68.4049 % of the votes cast; and (b) twenty-two million one hundred and sixteen thousand five hundred ZiG dollars (ZiG 22 116 500,00) shall be paidto the Citizen Coalition for Change-(CCC) which received 31,5950% of the total votes cast.

Murambinda Magistrates court has acquitted two residents, who had been on trial on charges of disorderly conduct after they allegedly confronted some members of Forever Associates of Zimbabwe (FAZ) and disapproved of their illegal and murky operations during last year’s general elections.
48 year-old Charles Kadungure and 32 year-old Marlon Kandenga, who reside in Wedza in Mashonaland East province, had been on trial at Murambinda Magistrates Court, after they were arrested on 23 August 2023 by Zimbabwe Republic Police officers, who charged themwith disorderly conduct in a public place as defined in section 41 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
During trial at Murambinda Magistrates Court, which commenced on 14 August 2024, prosecutor Chirairo Kudakwashe alleged that on 23 August 2023 Kadungure and Kandenga snatched a ZANU PF political party branded cloth and a cell register from Manatsa Zinyuku, who is employed as a teacher and is a member of FAZ, at a polling station located at Marumbi Primary School in Wedza in Mashonaland East province, and went away with it, intending to provoke a breach of peace.
This did not go down well with the 58 year-old Zinyuku, who reported the duo at Dorowa Police Station leading to their arrest.
During trial, three state witnesses namely Zinyuku, MasimbaGuvheya and James Samson Karasi, who are all ZANU PF political party members and also FAZ members, testified against Kadungure and Kandenga.
The duo, which was represented by Brian Majamanda of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, denied the allegations and in their defence, argued that there was bad blood between them and Zinyuku due to political differences hence the accusations against them were actuated by malice and were projected so as to fix them.
Majamanda also told Magistrate Tatenda Makwanya, who presided over Kadungure and Kandenga’s trial, that Zinyuku’s actions at a polling station, were illegal in that they violated the Electoral Act, which outlaws the conduct of the FAZ member on voting day.
Zinyuku admitted before Magistrate Makwanya that he had convened a gathering on the day of voting within the vicinity of a polling station, where he together with other FAZ members, were requesting voters to pass through a checkpoint before and after casting their ballots.
On 23 August 2024, Magistrate Makwanya found Kadungure and Kandenga not guilty and acquitted them at the close of the prosecution case after Majamanda had applied for their discharge.
By A Correspondent | Talent Phiri, a 35-year-old magistrate from Gwanda, has been arraigned before the Bulawayo Magistrates’ Court on charges of bribery as a public officer, in violation of Section 170 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23. Alternatively, Phiri faces charges for criminal abuse of duty as a public officer under Section 174 of the same Act.
The accusations against Phiri stem from events that began on August 27, 2024, when he granted an Interim Protection Order in favor of an applicant against her former husband. A warrant of arrest was subsequently issued as part of the protection order process. It is alleged that on September 4, 2024, Phiri solicited a USD 3,000 bribe from the ex-husband of the applicant, who was acting as an informant, in exchange for assistance with the case.
Phiri reportedly claimed that members from the President’s Office, National Prosecuting Authority, and the Zimbabwe Republic Police had an interest in the case and intended to have the ex-husband incarcerated. The informant negotiated the bribe down to USD 2,500, after which Phiri instructed him to deliver the money to his residence.
The informant secretly recorded phone calls and reported the matter to the police. Authorities set up a trap, leading to Phiri’s arrest.
The accused magistrate has been remanded in custody until September 9, 2024. Further details on the case are expected to emerge as the investigation continues.
By Dr. Masimba Mavaza | As we remember the African icon, Cde Robert Mugabe, we also acknowledge the team that worked alongside him. It is impossible to discuss Mugabe without mentioning Cde Innocent D. Tizora, a man who worked tirelessly behind the scenes.
Mugabe and President Mnangagwa back then still Vice President – file copy
Though the country may rush to forget him, he remains one of the finest Principal Directors to have ever graced State House. However, today, we focus on our icon, Cde Robert Mugabe.
Robert Mugabe speaking with his two deputies, Phelekezela Mphoko and Emmerson Mnangagwa- file
Robert Mugabe (1924-2019), the leader of Zimbabwe since its independence in 1980, was one of Africa’s longest-serving and most beloved rulers in the latter part of his reign. He trained as a teacher and taught at several schools, eventually pursuing his profession in Ghana, where he met the beloved First Lady, Sally Mugabe. He spent 11 years as a political prisoner under Ian Smith’s Rhodesian government before escaping Zimbabwe in a bread truck driven by Moven Mahachi, who later became the Minister of Defence in Mugabe’s government. Mahachi tragically died in a car accident in Nyanga.
Mugabe entered Mozambique through Nyanga with the help of Cde Sekuru Rekai Tangwena. He soon became the leader of the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) and played a key role in the 1979 Lancaster House Agreement, which led to Zimbabwe’s independence.
Mugabe became the country’s first elected Prime Minister and later President. He promoted reconciliation with the white minority and sought unity with fellow comrades. Mugabe was the third Prime Minister of the country, with Ian Smith being the first (when the country was called Rhodesia) and Bishop Abel Muzorewa the second (when it was called Zimbabwe Rhodesia). Mugabe later became the second President of Zimbabwe, after President Canaan Sodhindo Banana (the first President after independence).
Mugabe oversaw the controversial land redistribution program, which sought to empower black Zimbabweans by redistributing land from commercial farmers. This led to economic sanctions imposed by the West. Despite pressure, Mugabe agreed to a power-sharing deal with the opposition in the 2000s, later describing the period as disastrous. He ruled Zimbabwe for 37 years, stepping down in 2017.
President Robert Gabriel Mugabe was born on February 21, 1924, in Katuma, a Jesuit mission station 50 miles west of the then-Southern Rhodesian capital, now known as Zvimba. His father, Gabriel Matibili, was a carpenter from Nyasaland (now Malawi), and his mother, Bona, was of the prominent Shona ethnic group.
Mugabe graduated from St. Francis Xavier College in 1945 and spent the next 15 years teaching in Rhodesia and Ghana. During this time, he pursued further education at Fort Hare University in South Africa. He met and married his first wife, Sally Hayfron, while in Ghana.
In 1960, Mugabe joined the pro-independence National Democratic Party, becoming its publicity secretary. When the party was banned, it reformed as the Zimbabwe African People’s Union (ZAPU), but Mugabe left in 1963 to join the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU), which became his political home until his death.
In 1964, ZANU was banned by the colonial government, and Mugabe was imprisoned. While in prison, he earned multiple degrees by correspondence and taught fellow inmates. After his release in 1974, Mugabe went into exile in Zambia and Mozambique, where he gained full control of ZANU’s political and military wings.
In 1979, the Lancaster House Agreement paved the way for Zimbabwe’s independence. After winning elections in 1980, Mugabe urged the white minority to stay, offering a reconciliatory hand to his former enemies.
In 1982, tensions between ZANU-PF and ZAPU escalated into conflict, particularly in Matabeleland, where Mugabe’s North Korean-trained Fifth Brigade suppressed dissent. Over five years, many civilians were killed. However, in 1987, Mugabe initiated peace talks, resulting in ZAPU’s merger with ZANU-PF and the creation of a unified state.
During the 1990s, Mugabe was reelected twice. After the death of his first wife, Sally, he married Grace Mugabe. In 1998, he sent Zimbabwean troops to the Democratic Republic of Congo, intervening in the civil war to halt the spread of neo-colonialism.
In 2000, Mugabe held a referendum to expand presidential powers and allow land seizures, but he suffered his first political defeat when voters rejected the new constitution. Following this, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) was formed, and war veterans began invading white-owned farms, leading to economic collapse and hyperinflation.
After losing the parliamentary majority in 2008, Mugabe was pressured to form a unity government with MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai, who became Prime Minister. In 2017, Mugabe resigned amid impeachment proceedings, and Cde Dr. Emmerson Mnangagwa, his longtime ally, succeeded him as President.
On September 6, 2019, President Robert Mugabe passed away at the age of 95.
In a recent and controversial move, the government has imposed new restrictions on the movement of kombis, or commuter omnibuses, leading to widespread discontent among the commuting public. The government claims that these measures will enhance road safety and improve the overall commuting experience. However, these assertions have been met with considerable skepticism and unrest from the very people the policies are meant to benefit.
The crux of the controversy lies in the government’s decision to reduce the operational radius for kombis from 120 kilometers to just 60 kilometers. Officials argue that this restriction will contribute to safer roads by limiting the distance these vehicles travel, potentially reducing the risk of accidents associated with long-distance travel and congestion in busy urban areas.
Yet, this new policy has sparked a wave of frustration among commuters who feel that the government’s measures do not address their actual needs. Many argue that the reduction in operational radius limits their access to essential inter-city routes, which hampers their ability to travel efficiently between towns and cities. This sentiment is echoed by commuters who have expressed a desire for the introduction of more inter-city buses to fill the gap left by the restricted kombi services.
Despite the government’s assurances that commuters are content with the changes, the reality on the ground paints a different picture. The frustration is palpable as individuals struggle to adjust to the reduced radius, which has led to overcrowded alternative transport options and increased travel times. The government’s failure to anticipate the broader impact of these restrictions has fueled a growing sense of disillusionment among the public.
As the debate continues, there is an urgent call from commuters for the government to reconsider its approach. Many are advocating for a more balanced solution that maintains safety while addressing the practical needs of those who rely on kombis for their daily commutes. The introduction of additional inter-city buses could serve as a viable compromise, ensuring that transportation needs are met without sacrificing safety.
In conclusion, while the government’s intention to improve road safety is commendable, the execution of the kombi radius restrictions has sparked considerable unrest. The ongoing chaos highlights the need for a more nuanced approach that takes into account both safety and the practical transportation needs of the commuting public.
Rebecca Cheptegei, a 33-year-old Ugandan Olympic marathon runner, has tragically passed away after being doused in petrol and set on fire by a former boyfriend. The horrific incident occurred on Sunday, leaving Cheptegei with extensive burns.
According to authorities in north-west Kenya, where Cheptegei lived and trained, the attack happened when she returned home from church with her two daughters. Her father, Joseph Cheptegei, remembered his daughter as “very supportive” and expressed his devastating loss.
Fellow Ugandan athlete James Kirwa praised Cheptegei’s generosity, revealing that she had helped other runners financially. However, a local administrator’s report suggested that the attack may have been motivated by a dispute over a piece of land between Cheptegei and her ex-partner.
Cheptegei’s death is a shocking loss for the athletic community, particularly after her recent participation in the Paris Olympics. Her tragic passing serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of gender-based violence and the need for continued efforts to protect women from such heinous crimes.
Zimbabwe’s political landscape is increasingly fraught as Stephen Sarkozy Chuma, a prominent youth leader, has issued a fervent call to action against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government, which he describes as a “full-blown dictatorship.” Chuma’s remarks, made on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, underscore the urgency he feels regarding the country’s current political situation.
Chuma’s statement is clear and uncompromising: “A full-blown dictatorship can never be removed by compartmentalized groups active only on social media.”
He criticizes the fragmented approach of various activist groups who, according to him, fail to effect real change. Instead, Chuma advocates for a more unified and proactive strategy.
“What needs to be done? Mobilize, Organize, Recruit, Educate and Fight Back!” Chuma insists. His call to action emphasizes the necessity of a cohesive and systematic effort to challenge Mnangagwa’s regime.
This approach, he believes, will address the systemic issues rather than merely addressing symptoms through fragmented social media campaigns.
In a surprising development, hardline factions within Zimbabwe’s ruling Zanu PF party, known locally as Varakashi, have continued to assert that President Emmerson Mnangagwa will remain in office well beyond 2028.
This stance contradicts the clear stipulations of Zimbabwe’s Constitution, which limits the presidency to two terms.
The Varakashi’s recent Facebook post highlights their unwavering position.
They stated, “Zvaizvezvi ED arikuivaka Zimbabwe zvekuti patosvika 2030 Zimbabwe inenge yava huchi nemukaka,” which translates to: “Currently, ED is building Zimbabwe in such a way that by 2030, Zimbabwe will be as sweet as honey and milk.”
Despite these claims from his party’s hardliners, Mnangagwa himself has publicly expressed a lack of interest in extending his presidency.
In various statements, the President has indicated that he is not focused on prolonging his time in office, reinforcing his commitment to the constitutional term limits.
The Varakashi’s firm stance on Mnangagwa’s extended tenure raises questions about internal party dynamics and the broader political landscape in Zimbabwe.
Their insistence reflects a broader trend within certain factions of Zanu PF to push for continuity and stability, even as constitutional limits and presidential preferences seem to point in a different direction.
Cameroon national team’ s preparations for the 2025 Afcon Qualifiers have been hit by chaos.
The selected players for the Indomitable Lions’ upcoming games are yet to report for camp in Douala, where their camping base has been established.
The former African champions are set to face Namibia at home on 7 September before travelling to Kampala, Uganda to play Zimbabwe three days later.
The senior players are currently camping in Yaounde.
In a desperate attempt to have a team assembled for the two games, Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) president Samuel Eto’o has called up the U20s to train, while waiting for the the senior players to arrive.
The U20 team has been training for a few weeks at the CAF Centre of Excellence in Mbankomo, and arrived at the La Falaise hotel in Douala, the initial location chosen by Fecafoot for the gathering of the Indomitable Lions.
A statement by FECAFOOT reads: “The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) informs the national and international public opinion that some unfortunate dysfunctions are disrupting the preparation of the Senior National Team, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, a few days prior to the Cameroon vs Namibia match on 07 September 2024 and the Zimbabwe vs Cameroon match on 10 September 2024 representing the first and second days of the CAN TotalEnergies 2025qualifiers.”
The statement continues:
As a result, FECAFOOT has taken all the necessary measures to transport the players from their respective clubs to the venue in Douala, for their accommodation and their stay in the said city before their departure for Garoua.
“Involved, sometimes against their will, in this manipulative enterprise, a large number of players were taken out of the supervision provided by the Federation and communicated to their respective clubs.
“People with malicious intentions have taken advantage of the resources of the State to put on a disgraceful show for the whole world, tarnishing the image of our country and exposing the players to the sanctions provided for in the Players’ Statutes and Transfer Regulations….
“The instigators of these punishable acts in the course of the two aforementioned matches will be held accountable and will sooner or later assume full responsibility for all the damage they have done to our country.
“It should be clearly understood that the 24 players duly summoned by the National Coach-Selection Coach are expected to arrive no later than 8 a.m. on 4 September 2024 at the Hôtel la Falaise Bonanjo in Douala.
“Failure to comply with this requirement, will result in FECAFOOT taking all its responsibilities without hesitation in accordance with the legal framework in force.”

South Africa- The new DA Home Affairs Minister, Leon Schreiber, has launched a door-to-door operation targeting foreign nationals living illegally in the country.
Those found without proper documentation are being arrested, jailed, and subsequently deported to their countries of origin.
Thus far, hundreds of Zimbabweans have been impacted by this crackdown.
In response, the Zanu PF government has announced that it is preparing to receive thousands of deportees.
Public Service Deputy Minister Mercy Dinha informed Parliament this week that the government, in partnership with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), has laid the groundwork for the return of these migrants.
“The Government of Zimbabwe, working with the IOM, has put in place mechanisms to manage the return of Zimbabwe Exemption Permit non-holders from South Africa. Inter-ministerial committees have been established and will be activated to handle the expected influx,” Dinha said.
She further stated that the government is finalising renovations at the Beitbridge and Plumtree reception and support centres, which will accommodate returnees before reintegrating them into their communities.
“Our capacity to manage the return of citizens is proven, as evidenced by our successful handling of hundreds of thousands of returning citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Dinha added.

By A Correspondent | ZimEye| In a sudden twist of events, Zimbabwean activist, Hopewell Chin’ono has announced the cancellation of his non-existent govt-in-exile health initiative, citing personal reasons, that he doesn’t want to have his personal finances audited. The decision, announced Friday morning in a tweet, came after revelations surfaced that one of Chin’ono’s previous clinic projects, which handled millions of dollars, currently shows a zero balance (see images)
The revelation by a Twitter user, Lynn Starcia, raised serious questions about the management of funds, triggering intense public scrutiny. While Chin’ono insists the funds for the project came from his personal wealth, the refusal to allow any form of audit on these public funds has been the crux of the controversy.
the question
“I have never touched a penny of public money and am using my personal funds,” Chin’ono declared in his tweet. Despite his claims of altruism, critics have pointed to his strong resistance to having the funds examined as a red flag, especially given the public interest in ensuring transparency for such initiatives.
The cancellation of the clinic also comes amid revelations about Chin’ono’s personal finances.
He recently admitted that his first property in Chisipite was not financed through a CABS mortgage, as previously suggested, but through illicit British funds amounting to £50,000 obtained back in 1996. Furthermore, the family of a doctor he had previously name dropped would validate this money has since distanced itself from him, adding more fuel to the ongoing fire.
Part of the morning tweet
Meanwhile, Chin’ono defended his decision to halt the clinic, stating that security concerns for the doctors involved had become paramount. “For the security of the service providers, we have decided to put this assistance on hold until a time when their safety is guaranteed,” he explained. However, many believe that the real reason behind this abrupt cancellation lies in his refusal to have his finances audited, a point that Chin’ono conspicuously emphasized throughout his statement.
The activist was quick to point fingers at his detractors, accusing politicians and their “proxies” of attacking him for personal reasons. “It is ridiculous for any politician to send their attack dogs in the name of transparency when I have never touched public money,” he wrote, dismissing the audit demands as politically motivated. Nevertheless, critics argue that transparency should extend to personal funds used for public projects, particularly in light of the large sums involved.
In his defense, Chin’ono stressed that he had floated the Diaspora initiative out of a desire to help Zimbabwe’s elderly, with health professionals offering their time and services voluntarily. “I didn’t need to provide this service, I am not obliged to,” he said, expressing frustration at the backlash. Yet, his ongoing resistance to public oversight remains the focal point of concern for many, especially as the project initially garnered significant public support due to the promises of healthcare improvement in Zimbabwe.
In a further twist, Chin’ono’s tweets did not address the lingering question of the missing $1 million, nor did he provide any clear pathway for ensuring financial transparency going forward. This silence has only amplified the skepticism surrounding the management of the funds. Despite his insistence on using personal finances, the public has continued to call for greater accountability, particularly given his position as a high-profile activist fighting government corruption.
The collapse of Chin’ono’s clinic project comes at a time when Zimbabweans are desperate for healthcare solutions, particularly for the vulnerable elderly population. Yet, with Chin’ono firmly refusing any audits on the project’s finances, the initiative has been placed on indefinite hold, leaving those who might have benefited from it in limbo.
As the fallout from these revelations continues, questions surrounding Hopewell Chin’ono’s financial dealings and his steadfast refusal to undergo an audit will likely remain a focal point in the ongoing discourse about transparency and accountability in Zimbabwe’s activism space.- ZimEye
By Political Reporter- President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ruling Zanu PF party and the Sengezo Tshabangu-led Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) will share ZWG 70 million under the Political Parties Finance Act.

Zanu PF Youth League official Taurai Kandishaya has acknowledged that the former revolutionary party is facing internal turmoil.
In a recent statement, Kandishaya also issued a stern warning to those who he claims are undermining the party’s unity.
He declared:
“We will not remain silent in the face of counter-revolutionaries who are mobilizing to undermine ZANU PF through social media platforms.
Individuals who have opposed the party since 2017 will not be allowed to cause further divisions within our ranks.
The existing unity and brotherhood among our leaders is what we will continue to defend.”
Kandishaya further emphasized the party’s determination to address dissenters harshly, stating, “The same way we collapsed you then, we shall do it again. It is the people’s revolution that will continue to conquer. There are laid-down procedures to rejoin ZANU PF; causing divisions is not part of the process.
We have the capacity to take strong action against you, Saviour, Munyaradzi, and your crew.

By A Correspondent| In a major scientific breakthrough, Zimbabwean researchers announced on Thursday the discovery of a potential cure for Alzheimer’s disease, along with a groundbreaking treatment for melanoma, a form of skin cancer.
Leading the project, Professor Simon Mukwembi introduced a new computer system called Rutava, which has enabled his team to discover a chemical compound that selectively targets malignant cancer cells without affecting healthy ones. This discovery could pave the way for effective treatments for various cancers.
The research, which was conducted in collaboration with the University of Witwatersrand and the University of Johannesburg in South Africa, has primarily focused on melanoma and Alzheimer’s disease.
At a press conference in Harare, Prof. Mukwembi explained, “Rutava’s strength lies in its adaptability. Although our current focus is melanoma skin cancer, the technology can be recalibrated to address a wide range of other cancers.” He also highlighted that Rutava had been instrumental in developing a treatment for Alzheimer’s disease, a condition affecting over 55 million people worldwide, with numbers expected to nearly double every 20 years.
Melanoma, while not the deadliest cancer, saw approximately 330,000 new cases diagnosed globally in 2022, resulting in nearly 60,000 deaths. Prof. Mukwembi described Rutava as a digital platform utilizing artificial intelligence, machine learning, and complex mathematical algorithms to speed up drug discovery.
“Typically, the drug development process can take 15 years and billions of dollars. Rutava significantly reduces this time, potentially bringing new drugs to market within months,” said Prof. Mukwembi. “We’ve developed a compound that specifically targets cancerous cells, unlike current treatments that also harm healthy cells.”
Despite the promising developments, Prof. Mukwembi emphasized the need for clinical trials to validate the findings. He noted, “Rutava continually improves with each use, refining its algorithms and increasing its accuracy in analyzing molecular datasets.”
The innovative technology could revolutionize the pharmaceutical landscape, particularly in the Global South, by shortening drug development timelines and reducing costs. Prof. Mukwembi and his team envision Rutava playing a pivotal role in transforming the region into a pharmaceutical powerhouse.
Joining Prof. Mukwembi at the announcement were Dr. Amos Marume, principal of the Harare Institute of Public Health (HIPH), and the institute’s registrar, Dr. Isaac Mutingwende. The project also involves scientists Dr. Eloise van der Merwe, Prof. Farai Nyabadza, Prof. Yasien Sayed, Prof. Betsie Jonck, Prof. Eunice Mphako-Banda, Dr. Ronnie Maartens, Moster Zhangazha, Neo Padi, and Thabelo Mulenga.
Dr. Marume highlighted the need for funding to advance the discoveries through clinical trials, stating, “Patenting these treatments is essential, but securing financial support for clinical trials will likely lead to shared ownership of the patents.”
By A Correspondent| A 28-year-old man, Edward Chitivha, appeared in the Kadoma Magistrates’ Court this week facing charges of bestiality. The incident took place at Tolrose Compound, where Chitivha allegedly assaulted a goat belonging to 40-year-old Isheunesu Shangudze of plot 9 Blagdon Farm, Eiffel Flats.
The alleged offence occurred on the night of September 12, when Shangudze had secured his five goats for the night. According to reports, Chitivha entered the goat pen, removed his clothing, and placed them on the ground before tying the legs of a white female goat to a pole and sexually assaulting the animal.
Shangudze was alerted by the distressed sounds of the goat and went to investigate. Chitivha fled the scene, leaving his clothes behind as Shangudze approached. A police report was filed soon after, leading to Chitivha’s arrest.
Chitivha is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on September 17, 2024.
Under Zimbabwean law, bestiality is a criminal offence as per the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23]. Section 74 of this Act stipulates that engaging in sexual acts with an animal can result in fines of up to level fourteen or imprisonment of up to one year, or both.
Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivhayo has announced the conviction of his former colleagues Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu.
Responding to social media user who asked him if his conscience is clear when his friends were rotting in jail, Chivhayo said he was unmoved and added that Chimombe and Mpofu will be convicted urging their lawyers to start working on mitigation.

Dear ZimEye, are you aware Walter Magaya has fled Zimbabwe? We can’t see him anywhere near his Yadah hotel where his bodyguard Liberty Chinembiri was killed at work and he has clearly left Zim the same way he has done during rape cases. In the urban community of Rimuka, Kadoma, a dire water crisis has taken hold, leaving residents desperate for every drop. As early as 6 am, women and children flock to the area’s sole borehole, armed with water buckets, in a daily quest for this precious resource.
The local authority’s struggle to provide a steady water supply has forced residents to rely on this single borehole, leading to a sense of urgency and frustration. “I’m forced to join the queue at 6 am every day, waiting for my turn to fetch water. It’s our only means of accessing clean water, so we have no choice,” lamented one resident.
The water crisis has become a harsh reality for the people of Rimuka, who must endure the daily struggle to secure this essential resource. As the situation persists, concerns grow about the impact on health, hygiene, and overall well-being.
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has announced significant changes that may impact transportation in urban and peri-urban areas.
On Wednesday, the Ministry stated:
“Following a comprehensive review of the current radius-based restrictions for kombis, we have decided to reduce the radius from 120km to 60km.”
In a heartfelt statement, Norton Member of Parliament Richard Tsvangirai expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the recent Tamuka Coaches bus tragedy.

Tsvangirai said, “It is with tremendous grief that I learn of the Tamuka Coaches bus tragedy… My condolences and prayers are with the affected families.”
The MP’s words echo the shock and sadness felt by the community in the wake of this disaster.
As the affected families navigate this difficult time, Tsvangirai’s statement serves as a reminder of the support and solidarity that surrounds them.
Killer Zivhu, a controversial figure within Zanu PF, has distanced himself from the ongoing factional infighting in the party.

Last week, Zivhu posted:

According to sources within Zanu PF, Zivhu’s sudden retreat from the public eye comes after being instructed by state security agents to refrain from commenting further.
The move appears to be part of a broader effort to manage the party’s image and control the narrative amid a heated succession battle.
Dynamos, who are the defending champions, are through to the quarterfinals of the 2024 Chibuku Super Cup after beating ZPC Kariba in a rescheduled first round encounter played at Rufaro Stadium on Wednesday.
The Glamour Boys won the match 3-1 to join seven other teams that have qualified so far.
Dembare opened the scoring in the 14th minute through Donald Mudadi’s beautiful long range effort.
Emmanuel Paga found the back of the net six minutes later to double the cushion for the Harare giants.
The second half also started well for Dynamos as they scored their third goal through Nomore Chinyerere in the 57th minute.
ZPC Kariba pulled one back from Nyasha Gurende’s free-kick just four minutes from the final whistle, but the effort proved to be a mare consolation as the game ended in favour of the defending champions.
The final encounter in the first round will be decided on Thursday afternoon between Ngezi Platinum and Bulawayo Chiefs at Baobab Stadium in Ngezi.
Michael Ndiweni has admitted that he was hurt following his release at Newcastle United at the end of previous season.
Ndiweni’s eight-year stay at the club, mostly as an academy player, came to an end after returning from loan stay at Annan Athletic in the Scottish Championship.
During his time at St James’ Park, the Zimbabwean forward looked set to break into the senior side after training with the first team on several occasions.
He even featured in some games, including his English Premier League debut against Chelsea in November 2023, and was part of the matchday squad that lost to PSG in Paris in the Champions League last season.
Ndiweni is now playing at seventh tier club Ashington AFC after joining them last month.
Reflecting on his departure, the young striker told The Gazette: “Obviously it was a tough decision to take and I think part of me was hurt and sad. After eight years, you want to reach the heights, you want to get into team, you want to be like a Lewis Miley or an Elliot Anderson or Joe White.
“You want to live that dream and you want to be in and around the first-team because that’s what you’ve spent your time in the academy trying to achieve. Not everyone can do that, not everyone’s route will take them that way, and that obviously wasn’t my route. It’s tough but I had to see the positive side.
“Leaving Newcastle means I had to kickstart my senior career, no matter what level that comes at. I’m only 20, I just want to get senior games under my belt so you just never know what happens. Hopefully I can get back up the leagues and get back somewhere near to where I was.”

By Business Reporter- The government has admitted that the ZiG has lost its value and should be replaced with another currency.
The admission was made by Acting President Constantino Chiwenga, acknowledging that he may phase out the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency and introduce a new monetary system when he takes over power.
Currently, the ZiG is trading at a shocking US$1:24, a dramatic drop from its launch rate of US$1:13.50 in just five months.
Many businesses have begun rejecting the currency, prompting Chiwenga to urge citizens to rally behind it.
His remarks come in the absence of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is on a state visit to China, fueling speculation that Chiwenga is positioning himself to succeed Mnangagwa in 2028.
Analysts believe the potential currency overhaul could be a key feature of his administration.
Speaking at the burial of Brigadier General (Retd) Shadreck Ndabambi at the National Heroes Acre in Harare, Chiwenga reassured the public that the government is taking steps to stabilize the economy by addressing exchange rate manipulation.
“The government is working to promote the wider use of our local currency and is putting in place measures to close the gaps that allow arbitrage opportunities,” Chiwenga stated.
Despite his calls for confidence in the ZiG, skepticism is widespread. Renowned economist Professor Gift Mugano criticized the government’s approach, arguing that the lack of proper reserves, poor policy execution, and political toxicity are at the root of the currency’s collapse.
“I warned the government to create demand for ZiG by ensuring all services, including passports and taxes, were payable in the local currency. Instead, the government rejected its own money, starting with fuel and public services,” Mugano said.
He added that Zanu PF’s failure to foster political stability has further eroded market confidence, making the currency unsustainable.
The rapid decline of the ZiG has placed immense pressure on Zimbabwe’s economy, with soaring prices for goods and services.
Chiwenga’s hint at a currency shift may indicate a broader strategy as he prepares for a potential power transition in 2028, but the immediate question remains: can Zimbabwe’s economy survive under the ZiG, or is a new monetary system inevitable?

By Political Reporter- Former Chiredzi Town Council chairman and Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC), Gibson Hwende, has crossed the floor to Zanu PF.
Hwende defected at the weekend when Zanu PF paraded him at its rally at Chitsanga Hall in Chiredzi.
Ironically, he has been a vocal critic of Mnangagwa in the past but expressed admiration for the ZANU PF leader, describing him as a “listening president.”
Hwende lost the CCC nomination for the Chiredzi Central National Assembly Constituency in the general elections held on August 23, 2023.
He subsequently ran as an independent candidate but was unsuccessful, with CCC candidate Ropafadzo Makumire winning the seat.
Hwende’s defection was revealed during a thank-you rally led by current Chiredzi Town Council chairperson Jameson Charumbira.
Speaking to The Mirror after the event, Hwende claimed his decision to join ZANU PF was motivated by his belief in Mnangagwa’s approach to leadership. He said:
Mnangagwa is a listening president and he inspired me, I witnessed a lot of developments done by him under a short period of time and it’s madness to keep on opposing good development.
Hwende said does not hold any grudge against former CCC leader Nelson Chamisa, saying: “I don’t have any bad blood with him, but opposition yadhakwa”.
Also announced as joining ZANU PF on the day is Chiredzi Government Primary School Development Committee (SDC) chairman, Artwell Muzvrwandoga and his deputy Shepherd Nyoni.

By Dr. Raymond Chamba | There once lived a remarkable man—a towering figure, an incredible dreamer, a devout church leader, a devoted husband and grandfather, a rural entrepreneur, and a natural revolutionary. His name was Kenneth Chinoza Mhandu.
In 1905, Kenneth became one of the earliest students at Umtali Academy (later renamed Hartzell High School). He was deeply impressed by the biblical teachings of early missionaries, who lured him and his friends away from their father’s flock with candy, introducing them to formal schooling.
Rev Kenneth Mhandu
Kenneth’s journey took an unexpected turn when he was conscripted into the First World War and sent to Italy as an army caterer. At the war’s end, he found his calling in the ministry and was ordained as a United Methodist Church pastor. He dedicated his life to spreading the gospel across the length and breadth of the country, serving in communities such as Stapleford, Nyamukwarara (Mutoko), Zuze, Gandanzara, Arnoldine Mission (Headlands), and Mafararikwa (Bocha/Marange), before retiring to his roots in Sharara Village (Nyazura).
A tireless rural businessman and full-time pastor, Kenneth never burdened his parishioners with the upkeep of his family; instead, he supported many through his successful farming ventures and general dealer stores. His self-sufficiency stands in stark contrast to today’s gospel-entrepreneurship.
The war for national liberation awakened his political activism. Kenneth became an epicenter of local intelligence, security, and resource mobilization for the guerilla fighters. He endured great personal loss, losing two sons to the liberation struggle. His political insights were captivating, and his appetite for reading was insatiable.
During his time at Mafararikwa (Bocha/Marange), he became legendary for his support of the war effort, and he served as the longest-running and uncontested ZANU(PF) Chairman in his district. He was also a passionate advocate for development in his district, tirelessly lobbying for improvements to local road networks and public transport.
One of my most vivid memories of my grandfather involves his formidable spirit and deep sense of justice. I was once expelled from Hartzell High School for leading a student strike. Fearful of my parents’ reaction, I sought refuge with him instead. Even at 89 years old, he was a force of nature—storming into the school and confronting the principal with his walking stick in hand, threatening to use it if necessary. The principal, genuinely intimidated, had no choice but to reinstate me and the other protest leaders.
I also remember him at 107 years old, still reading the Herald newspaper with a fierce intensity. When I asked why he seemed upset, he replied, “People are selling off the revolution and the country.” His commitment to his principles never wavered.
Rev. Kenneth Mhandu was promoted to glory at the extraordinary age of 109. I remember him with both sadness and a profound joy for the life he lived. What a man, what a life. Fly away with the angels, Sekuru, and be ready to set them straight if they forget to watch over us.

A high-ranking Zanu PF official has made a startling declaration, promising to suppress opposition parties across Southern Africa.
Taurai Kandishaya, a youth league leader within Zanu PF, stated:
“Only SWAPO is permitted to govern Namibia. We stand firmly with former liberation movements to preserve sovereignty and freedom for Black people.
Our independences were earned through the sacrifice of countless individuals who fought for our freedom. Today, we commit ourselves to defending these hard-won sovereignties. We will strategize to overcome any opposition. SWAPO for life.”
Kandishaya further emphasized:
“In Mozambique, our allegiance is with FRELIMO. Former liberation movements must remain in power, as they are the true protectors of our sovereignties
. We are committed to ensuring Cde Chapo’s success in the upcoming elections in Mozambique.”
The self-appointed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Secretary, Senator Sengezo Tshabangu, has made a bold commitment to collaborate with progressive forces in a bid to oust Zanu PF from power.
Despite being perceived by many as a Zanu PF protege, Tshabangu is resolute in his mission to challenge the current ruling party.
On Wednesday, Tshabangu took to X (formerly Twitter) to address his critics and reaffirm his commitment. He stated:
“The mere absence of certain individuals at the forefront of the struggle has no effect on the movement.
We are determined to achieve our intended goal of removing Zanu PF from the reins of power.
The struggle is bigger than individuals and that must sink in the minds of naysayers.”
By Lawrence Tafadzwa Chabata| Amending a nation’s constitution to extend the tenure of a president is not only a dangerous precedent but also a betrayal of the democratic principles upon which the nation stands. The notion that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s perceived success is a valid justification for amending the constitution to allow him to serve beyond the two term limit is deeply flawed and must be challenged.2. Firstly, the constitution is the supreme law of the land, designed to provide a framework for governance that ensures stability, fairness, and the protection of citizens’ rights. It should not be subject to manipulation for the benefit of any individual, regardless of their achievements or popularity. If we argue that a “good job” by a president warrants an extension of their tenure, we open the door to the dangerous possibility of indefinite rule, which undermines the very essence of democracy. 3. Moreover, this line of reasoning raises a critical question: if we are willing to amend the constitution to keep a successful president in power, what happens when a president is failing? Should we then amend the constitution to remove them prematurely or prevent them from serving at all? Such a perspective risks turning the constitution into a tool of convenience, bent and reshaped at will to suit current circumstances rather than standing as a solid foundation for governance. This not only erodes public trust in the legal framework but also destabilises the political system by making it subject to the whims of those in power.4. Vision 2030, the national aspiration for Zimbabwe to become an upper middle income country by 2030, is not a personal project of any single individual, including President Mnangagwa. It is a collective goal, a national vision that transcends individual leadership. As such, the success of Vision 2030 should not hinge on one person remaining in power but rather on the commitment of the nation’s leadership whoever they may be to uphold and pursue this shared goal. Any competent and dedicated leader who assumes office after 2028 should be fully capable of carrying forward the mandate of Vision 2030. To suggest otherwise is to imply that the vision is fragile and dependent on one individual, which undermines the collective spirit and ambition that the vision represents.5. The proposal to amend the constitution in this manner is not just misguided, it is ridiculous and fundamentally undemocratic. Constitutions are designed to endure, to outlast the leaders who govern under them, and to protect the nation from the dangers of power consolidation. It is both silly and reckless to tamper with this foundational document for the sake of one person’s extended rule. This approach contradicts the very purpose of term limits, which is to prevent the emergence of autocracy, ensure regular leadership renewal, and promote the healthy functioning of democracy.6. In conclusion, the idea of amending the constitution to allow President Mnangagwa to serve beyond the two-term limit, no matter how “good” his performance is perceived to be, is an affront to democratic principles. The constitution is a safeguard for all Zimbabweans, not a tool for personal gain. Vision 2030 belongs to the people, not to any one individual, and it is the collective responsibility of the nation’s leaders to ensure its realization. Therefore, any attempt to amend the constitution in this way should be resisted as a grave misstep and an act of folly that threatens the very fabric of Zimbabwe’s democracy

Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change and pro-democracy activitists who have been languishing in remand prison were yesterday released while President Emmerson Mnangagwa is away on official business.
Could it be that Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who is currently in charge played a role in the release of several high-profile opposition figures including Jameson Timba, Namatai Kwekweza, Robson Chere and the so called Avondale 77.
The High Court has granted bail to prominent activists Namatai Kwekweza, Samuel Gwenzi, and Robson Chere, setting bail at US$150 each. The trio had been detained for over a month on charges of disorderly conduct after being forcibly removed from a plane at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
The activists were en route to Victoria Falls to attend a philanthropy conference when they were arrested, sparking outcry from human rights groups and civil society organizations who viewed the detention as politically motivated.
Adding to the wave of unexpected legal decisions, Jameson Timba, a veteran political activist, former minister, and a key member of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), along with 77 others, were acquitted of charges of plotting public violence.
Timba and his co-accused were arrested on June 16 while commemorating Youth Day at his Avondale residence. The group had been detained for nearly 80 days, accused of fomenting unrest under the guise of a casual gathering involving a braai and drinks.
he acquittal of Timba and his fellow activists is seen as another significant judicial decision occurring under Chiwenga’s watch.
Former CCC Chiredzi Town Council Chairman Gibson Hwende Defects to ZANU PF
In a surprising turn of events, former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Chiredzi Town Council Chairman, Gibson Hwende, has defected to the ruling ZANU PF party, arguing that it is futile to continue opposing President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The Mirror reports that Hwende made the announcement at a ZANU PF gathering held at Chitsanga Hall in Chiredzi on Saturday, where he publicly declared his allegiance to the ruling party. This move comes as a shock to many, as Hwende has previously been a vocal critic of Mnangagwa’s leadership. However, he now says he is impressed by the president’s style of governance, describing Mnangagwa as a “listening president.”
Hwende, who lost the CCC ticket to represent the party in the Chiredzi Central Constituency parliamentary elections last year, ran as an independent candidate but was unsuccessful. The seat was won by CCC candidate Ropafadzo Makumire.
His defection was announced by the current Chiredzi Town Council Chairperson, Jameson Charumbira, during a thank-you rally.
Speaking to The Mirror, Hwende explained that his decision was influenced by what he perceives as significant development initiatives under Mnangagwa’s leadership.
“Mnangagwa is a listening president, and he inspired me. I witnessed a lot of developments done by him in a short period of time, and it’s madness to keep on opposing good development,” said Hwende.
When asked if there was any animosity between him and his former leader, Nelson Chamisa, Hwende denied harboring any ill feelings. “I don’t have any bad blood with him, but the opposition yadhakwa (is disoriented),” he stated.
Joining Hwende in defecting to ZANU PF were Chiredzi Government Primary School Development Committee (SDC) Chairman Artwell Muzvrwandoga and his deputy Shepherd Nyoni, both of whom were also introduced during the rally.
Hwende’s defection marks another significant shift in the local political landscape, raising questions about the future of the opposition in the region.-Mirror

Auxilia Goromonzi, the victim of an alleged pyramid scheme involving the micro-finance company Inter Crest Capital, has broken her silence following a recent High Court ruling in her favor. Goromonzi, speaking out in frustration and disbelief, claimed, “…the main culprit, Roselinda Chopera, is having a nice time with her daughter in Texas,” highlighting the lack of accountability as the suspected fraudsters remain abroad.
In July 2024, the High Court of Zimbabwe ordered Inter Crest Capital to repay US$81,139 to Goromonzi, who alleged she was defrauded after investing a total of US$94,200 with the company. Goromonzi initially invested US$27,000 in 2022 and an additional US$67,200 in January 2023, lured by the promise of a 10% monthly return and the ability to withdraw her full investment upon request.
However, when Goromonzi attempted to retrieve her funds, Inter Crest Capital allegedly failed to honor the agreement. The company’s directors, Precious Kwashirai and Roselinda Chopera, are suspected to have fled Zimbabwe and are reportedly residing in the United States and the United Kingdom, respectively.
Following the company’s failure to respond to court summons, High Court Judge Justice Joseph Mafusire issued a default judgment on July 4, 2024. The ruling mandates that Inter Crest Capital and its directors repay the full sum of US$81,139, which includes the initial investment and interest accrued at 10% per month from the date of the order. The company is also liable for all court costs.
Represented by her legal team, Goromonzi is now calling on the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) to launch an official investigation into Inter Crest Capital’s operations. “This isn’t just about me,” Goromonzi emphasized. “It’s about preventing this from happening to others.”
The RBZ, as Zimbabwe’s primary financial regulatory body, has the authority to investigate financial institutions suspected of malpractice. An investigation into Inter Crest Capital could potentially reveal further evidence of fraudulent activities, leading to more stringent legal action against the company’s directors.
Goromonzi’s public statement and her demand for justice have drawn significant attention, putting pressure on the authorities to act swiftly. The case highlights the ongoing challenges faced by investors in the country, as many seek protection and recourse in a volatile financial environment.
As the situation unfolds, the public awaits a response from the RBZ and hopes for a thorough investigation that may bring justice to Goromonzi and any other victims who may come forward.
By A Correspondent| The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has announced a significant change in travel restrictions for commuter omnibuses, commonly known as kombis, in an effort to improve road safety.
Effective from September 3, 2024, all 26-seater kombis and below will be restricted to operating within a 60 km radius, down from the previous 120 km.
This new regulation is part of the Ministry’s broader strategy to mitigate road traffic crashes involving kombis and enhance overall safety on Zimbabwe’s roads.
The change will apply to operators seeking new route permits from the effective date, while existing permits will remain valid until they expire.
In its statement, the Ministry emphasized the importance of using high-capacity buses for long-distance travel, citing their predictability, reliability, and superior comfort compared to kombis.
The move is expected to shift long-distance commuters to buses, which offer more legroom and baggage space, making them ideal for extended journeys.
Additionally, kombis operating within the 60 km radius must install speed-limiting and monitoring devices as mandated by Statutory Instrument 118 of 2023.
This legislation aims to enforce compliance with speed limits and monitor driving behavior, ensuring safer travel conditions for passengers.
The Ministry expressed concerns over the rising issue of kombis and unauthorized vehicles, including “mushika-shika,” picking up and dropping off passengers at non-designated points, which is causing damage to road infrastructure.
To address this, law enforcement officers are urged to ensure that all kombis and authorized vehicles adhere strictly to designated pick-up and drop-off points.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Hon. F.T. Mhona, called for increased vigilance among road traffic stakeholders, including operators and passengers, to combat violations such as speeding, overloading, and the use of unroadworthy vehicles.
The Ministry underscored that these offenses pose serious risks and that violators will be held accountable.
In closing, the Ministry appealed to all road users and enforcement agencies to collaborate in efforts to reduce road fatalities, emphasizing the shared responsibility of maintaining safety on Zimbabwe’s roads.
This latest policy shift marks a robust step toward enhancing regulatory and administrative measures in the country’s road transport sector, prioritizing the safety of passengers and the broader community.

Bellarmine Chatunga, son of the late former President Robert Mugabe, has issued an apology to Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe following his recent arrest in Beitbridge.
Chatunga faced charges of disorderly conduct after allegedly assaulting a police officer at a roadblock in Bubi, approximately 80 kilometers north of the border town.
The incident occurred when Chatunga, who was being driven by a Chinese driver, grew impatient while police officers requested vehicle documents.
According to the police, Chatunga yelled at the officers and questioned their authority before violently grabbing a Support Unit officer by the collar and tearing off his shirt buttons.
Reports also indicate that Chatunga brandished a knife during the confrontation but was eventually subdued and taken into custody.
In his apology, Chatunga admitted his behavior was excessive, stating, “I would like to make a public apology to the Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Mnangagwa, Home Affairs Minister Kazembe, and Commissioner General of Police Matanga for my actions last Saturday. Surely, forgive me for the disorderly conduct.
Warriors stand-in captain Marshall Munetsi has issued his first assessment of new head coach Michael Nees.
The German gaffer was appointed to the national team top job last month on a two-year contract.
His first assignment will be in the 2025 Afcon Qualifiers Group J games against Kenya and Cameroon this week.
Speaking during the Warriors’ first training camp under Nees in Kampala, Uganda, Munetsi said the team is getting used to the new head coach’s system.
“We are trying to listen to our coach as he is a new manager coming in, and we are trying to learn more from him as much as possible,” the Stade de Reims midfielder said.
“We are also starting to see his ideas because we talked (over the phone) before we came into the camp, so we pretty much know what to expect from him.
“I think the guys are starting to gear up because we have been playing together for a couple of games now.
“It’s a new system but everything in football depends on the results.”

By Crime and Courts Reporter- Mnangagwa President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son, Major Sean Mnangagwa of the Zimbabwe National Army, has been named in a shocking series of mining extortion cases that have rocked the Matabeleland region.
A five-men gang of armed extortionists, who allegedly posed as military intelligence and police officers, has implicated Major Sean in a sprawling scheme targeting mining companies.
The suspects, Munyaradzi Charakupa, Victor Jaja, and Tawanda Mangi, appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Evelyn Madzikatire on Tuesday, facing charges of impersonating public officials, attempted extortion, and extortion.
The gang allegedly extorted money from mining companies by falsely claiming to have ties to Sean Mnangagwa, who they said was their boss.
They demanded exorbitant sums, including a $300,000 “protection fee,” threatening to cancel mining applications unless their demands were met.
The scheme unraveled when prominent Bulawayo lawyer Dumisani Dube, who the gang had repeatedly targeted, sought help from Sean Mnangagwa and the Attorney-General’s Office.
In his statement, Dube revealed that Sean disowned the gang and advised him to report the matter to the police.
Despite this, the gang continued their extortion attempts, escalating to threats of violence and extorting a total of $55,300 from Dube.
The court heard how the gang went to great lengths, including falsely identifying themselves as part of Sean’s security team and using official-looking documentation to back their claims.
The suspects were finally apprehended after Dube reported the extortion to the authorities.
The case has sent shockwaves through the country, raising serious questions about the involvement of high-ranking officials in criminal activities.
The suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues, with the court yet to decide on their bail application.
By Political Reporter-President Emmerson Mnangagwa is paving the way for his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga, to assume power, signalling a possible shift in Zanu Pf succession battles.
Mnangagwa’s recent actions suggest a softening stance toward extending his term in office.
This became evident as Chiwenga was left to act on Mnangagwa’s behalf during his two-week absence in China, where he is attending the triennial Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
Chiwenga is taking centre stage during this period, presiding over two key national events.
Last week, he officiated at the Harare Agricultural Show, and on Wednesday, he led the burial ceremony of Brigadier-General Shadreck Dingani Ndabambi at the National Heroes Acre.
Brig-Gen Ndabambi collapsed at his farm in Glendale, Mashonaland Central province, and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Bindura General Hospital last week.
While in China this week, Mnangagwa reiterated that he would not seek an extension of his rule, a stance that contrasts with the desires of certain party loyalists aiming to block Chiwenga from succeeding him.
During the upcoming conference, the Zanu PF Women’s League reportedly plans to pair Chiwenga with its chairperson, Mabel Chinomona.
This strategy stems from the belief that Chiwenga lacks widespread political support within the party beyond the military, which holds no voting power.
If pitted against any established figure within Zanu PF’s structures, Chiwenga might need help to secure the necessary backing to succeed Mnangagwa post-2028.
Chiwenga was once viewed as Mnangagwa’s designated successor, a status rooted in the gentleman’s agreement forged by military leaders who orchestrated the 2017 coup that ousted Robert Mugabe.

By A Correspondent | The same sex preacher Apostle Talent Farai Chiwenga has deserted his new wife, barely 5 months into marriage.
Sources close to the preacher who titles himself “mother” to his followers, confirmed the development to ZimEye saying, “It’s true he has separated from his wife following some issues,” as one member who refused to be named, said.
The preacher had not responded to requests for comment at the time of writing.
In March, ‘Apostle’ Talent Chiwenga, had his integrity questioned after altering his stance on several sermons regarding infidelity in marriage.
Chiwenga who has deleted some of his videos now preaches that wives must allow another woman to coexist with them inside the same home.
In 2019, Chiwenga advocated against the pursuit of having male offspring, stating, “If you have daughters, be content, and thank God for the children you have. No child is less of a child.” (VIDEO BELOW STORY CONTINUES)
How different is Apostle Chiwenga from Madzibaba Ishamael, seeing Chiwenga's video abusing women as sex objects in threesomes?
However, by February 2024, his position shifted dramatically, now advocating for men to take a second wife specifically to father sons. He argued, “A woman who hasn’t borne a son owes her husband. Hence, if she fails to produce a son after three or four attempts, she shouldn’t complain if her husband seeks another wife for this purpose.”
He further explained, “The new wife isn’t your enemy but a helper, as you’ve failed in your duty, and your husband is merely seeking assistance. Being a wife in God’s eyes isn’t about physical appearance.”
This recent message starkly contrasts his earlier teachings. At one point, he critiqued the obsession with fathering a son to carry on the family name, asking, “Why the fixation on a male heir? Was Jesus, who left no children, mistaken in focusing on his heavenly father’s legacy? Pursuing a son could result in numerous daughters, all while missing the point of legacy and value in all children.”

“If we thought it’s not possible for a person to sacrifice his wife for powers so their church grows, that’s what Chiwenga did. If he wants to deny that, I’ll download everything that’s happened in his face,” Talent Chiwenga’s mother in law alleged as the accused defended self saying,” God will vindicate me.”
The damning allegations were made early 2021 and have seen the preacher respond saying God will vindicate him, and then threatening her to retract the statement failure which he will institute legal action within 4 weeks. What happened after the mother in law defied the threats and continued boldly speaking?

Talent Chiwenga also began claiming Howard Nyoni is a disgruntled former member of his cult, JRM- Jesus Revelation Ministries, when such a thing has never happened. Nyoni was a panelist in a news discussion with Chiwenga in Nov 2017, during the times Talent Chiwenga was seeking publicity through the news network.

One of the young girls Talent Chiwenga raped is his own wife’s younger sister, Tariro Mafuka (+27 62 583 1***, we release the number as there is a criminal investigation for murder), he later secretly married more than 3 years before the accident that killed his wife, Rejoice. He would after that date, secretly drive her back to Zimbabwe from South Africa where she has been since the secret marriage, years before.
Sought for a comment over the last 3 years, Talent Chiwenga has declined responding only to resort to video streams on his church portal where he has constantly avoided the issue of his sex attacks against women and his overspeeding in Masvingo road which killed his wife, Rejoice.
In his first accident, in which he has accused Emmerson Mnangagwa, he was rescued by a top notorious ZANU PF he calls a good Samaritan, Mr Seviyas Piki, and in the 2nd one, he was rescued by an unnamed driver in a white vehicle that quickly whisked him away from the accident scene.
ACCIDENT IN NORTON: Source alleges Talent Chiwenga was taken away by a white car from the scene within 10 minutes from the accident, and left everyone else at the scene. Contacted for a comment, Chiwenga's PA Pastor Baloyi confessed ignorance. He told ZimEye,"I am not aware…" pic.twitter.com/RYXukBt0co
The below is a full compilation of Talent Chiwenga’s own words between June and November 2019 speaking on LIVE camera giving details on his allegations.
In his own video, recorded inside hospital less than a day after the accident, the preacher loudly says that he was speeding (in a 60km speed limit zone) at 120 kmeters per hour and he even wanted to accelerate beyond 120km for no other reason other than to rush to Harare and purchase a new fan belt for his car. No one was chasing after him. He then collided with an oncoming haulage truck and three people died as a result of the collision (accident video below).
Speaking during a church service, Talent Chiwenga said, ” I had a friend in Eugene Kanyuchi. I am sure many of you you know him. He served me in the work of Christ in the protocol department. And I had Mai Vhurumuko, and I think you all know her, you all knew her. VIDEO ( The story continues below)…

“I faced death with those 2 people for as long as they were in the ministry. A week before we drove to South Africa I sat down with both of them and I said to them- you are following me everywhere I am going, I am in danger because in those three weeks before the accident we had a lot of incidents where death threats continued to come.
“I am sure you still remember at First Street when there was a message that came: run away they are going to come to kill you. And I said I am not going to run. Because I cannot run away from death death is something that nobody can run away from. So I sat with her husband and Mai Vhurumuku, and Baba Vhurumuku is not here, he works outside the country, and I told them there is death that is imminent; we knew about it it, we wrote a letter to president Emmerson Mnangagwa.
“And I told them that I was going to deliver that letter. The two of them, they volunteered to go with me, and I said if I don’t come back what happens to you?
“They said we will then not come back all of us. Vari vaviri, Baba Kanyuchi naMai Vhurumuku, ndaiti ndakavaudza kuti Vhangeri iyi ine vavengi vakawanda, ichasvika panguva yekuti tichafanirwa kuifira, vaiti, ” we are ready to die for the gospel.”
“Hapana anga aine rwendo rwekuenda kuSouth Africa pahu two hwavo. They volunteered to go with me. Three times in South Africa Thursday, Friday and Saturday, I saw a vision somebody was pointing a gun at me and I was being shot. And I was dying in that vision and then I was seeing myself dying when I was standing on the other side, and I told Baba Kanyuchi, I told Mai Chiwenga, this is what is going to happen, I am not comfortable something is about to happen. And they said let the will of the lord prevail.
“Our greatest challenge is when that time comes in our lives are we going to be holding our faith like they did? That is why we cannot count their departure, as a loss, it is not them that lost, it is us who lost. We lost an opportunity to go in good time, murikundinzwa here vadikani? Takashaiwa mukana wekuenda, zvichakanaka. So I just want to remind you that the people that do not believe do not understand their level, their carnal level, their corruptible level, their crooked level, we know what you are aiming for, we know the Lord, we know the Lord is coming. We know we shall be vindicated. We know we shall be justified. We know the gospel is going to go on. We know nobody is going to stop the gospel. We know nothing is going to stop the gospel.
“Not even the murderers, not even the politicians. Not even the CIO, not even the army, they will not stop this gospel. They can kill me today but they can’t kill the gospel.
“Tell your neighbour: they can kill me today but they can’t kill the gospel. The gospel cannot be killed because not even a bullet can reach close to the gospel. It is spiritual it is not physical.
“The AK47 kana CZ Pistol, inogona kuuraya nyama, asi mweya haigone kuuraya. So we just want to observe a moment of silence, but I want us us to first of all read this whole passage, in Phillipians chapter 1, let me read it up to verse 30. And then we observed a moment of silence to remind ourselves that there is a burden that lies squarely on our shoulders, to uphold the faith and to the very end, like our comrades did. They are our comrades, they are our heroes. They are heroes of faith, they stood firm for the gospel, and we have got to do the same. If we walk away from the faith, we are disappointing them. Hallelujah, Jesus is counting on us to stand firm unto the very end. For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain.”
What happened after the mother in law defied the threats and continued boldly speaking? Nothing happened to her, and the legal papers were never actioned.

By Political Reporter- A cross-section of Zimbabweans say that they would prefer Vice President Constantino Chiwenga to be the President and think he would work with the country’s most celebrated politician, Nelson Chamisa.
This comes after indications that Mnangagwa was paving the way for Chiwenga by reversing his 2030 ndinenge ndichipo campaign.
Mnangagwa practically withdrew his intention to extend his rule by another term by delegating two key national events to Chiwenga while he attended the triennial Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

By A Correspondent| Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim leader Jameson Timba and 77 party activists arrested on June 16 have been acquitted of charges of disorderly conduct.
The group faced allegations of unlawful gathering and disorderly conduct, with the State accusing them of throwing stones at police officers during their arrest. The accused had sought dismissal of the charges, arguing that they were not in a public space and, therefore, could not be charged with disorderly conduct or participating in an unlawful gathering.
Several of the accused claimed they were arrested while going about their daily activities near Timba’s house, with some asserting that the police used a dragnet arrest approach.
Magistrate Collet Ncube ruled that the State failed to prove the accused were in a public space, noting, “This court is satisfied that the gathering was inside the premises, not outside. This is contrary to the State’s evidence that it was outside No. 6 Downroad.”
Ncube emphasized the legal definition of public space, stating, “For this offence, the public space definition is essential to establish the offence. Timba’s residence does not qualify as a public space, and therefore, the charge cannot stand. There is no evidence to support the essential elements of the offence alleged by the State.”
The magistrate concluded, “I pronounce that they are all not guilty and acquitted on the count of disorderly conduct.”
However, on the charge of participating in an unlawful gathering, the magistrate noted that while the police were within their rights to make arrests, there was evidence suggesting that some of the accused were not part of the gathering and were caught in the crossfire.
The court acknowledged the individual defences of several accused, including Resca Munetsi, Violet Chitsindi, Simon Size, Calvin Charumapasi, Redeem Mandizvidza, Tatenda Mukwembi, Tawanda Mukucha, Prince Madhena, Wisdom Nyama, Tobias Mangwayana, and Lucia Kandemiri, and acquitted them on the first count.
The rest of the group will proceed to the defence case.
By James Gwati/ZimEye-President Emmerson Mnangagwa is paving the way for his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga, to assume power, signalling a possible shift in Zanu Pf succession battles.
