Sikhala Sentenced to Nine Months In Prison

By Jane Mlambo| Harare magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka has sentenced former Zengeza West legislator Job Sikhala to nine months prison term wholly suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offense.

Sikhala who was last week convicted of communicating falsehoods was also fined US$500 to be paid by 4 March 2024 failing which he shall spend two months in prison.

Addressing journalists outside the Harare Magistrates, Sikhala’s lawyer Harrison Nkomo said his client had been sentenced as follows;

“As you are aware, we just coming out of court for the sentencing of Job Sikhala for contravening section 31 subsection 1 paragraph 3 of the Criminal Law Codification basically a law criminalizing publication of falsehoods, a law nullified by the Constitutional Court, the highest court of the land in 2014, that not withstanding the magistrate proceeded to pronounce a sentence and Job Sikhala has been sentenced as follows; 9 months imprisonment wholly suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar within the specified period, further to that he has been ordered to pay a fine of US$500 failing which he shall spend an effective 2 months in prison and has been ordered to pay that on the 4th of March 2024.”

Nkomo said they will file an appeal against the judgement which they believe has no foundation as it is based on a section of the law that was struck off the statutes.

“We are going to file our appeal as a registration of our displeasure of the judgement, we disagree with it, it has no foundation, it is not sound, the law nolonger exists and it is wrong for a court to convict someone on law that no longer exists. the effect of a striking of a section by the Constitutional Court means it is dead, how does it resuscitate no ways it cant,” said Nkomo.

Meanwhile, Sikhala still has two outstanding cases which were both concluded and waiting rulings.

JOB SIKHALA FINED USD500 AND SENTENCED TO 9 MONTHS IMPRISONMENT WHOLLY SUSPENDED, OVER A LAW NULLIFIED BY THE SUPREME COURT IN 2014.Former Zengeza MP @JobSikhala1 has been fined USD 500 and sentenced to 9 months in prison, wholly suspended, for allegedly violating a law that the Supreme Court nullified in 2014. The law, previously aimed at curbing certain freedoms under the guise of maintaining public order, was deemed unconstitutional and struck down, raising questions about the basis of Sikhala’s charges and the current state of judicial proceedings.

Sikhala, known for his vocal criticism of the government and advocacy for democratic reforms, was charged under the outdated statute, sparking outrage among human rights organizations and opposition supporters. With its vibrant economy, vast consumer base, and innovative ecosystem, China offers a fertile ground for innovation and growth across various industries. From e-commerce and technology startups to manufacturing and consumer goods, the potential for success in the Chinese market is immense.

One significant advantage of Chinese proficiency is communicating directly with suppliers, manufacturers, and distributors in China. Many businesses rely on importing goods from China, and having the language skills to liaise with Chinese companies firsthand can streamline the procurement process, mitigate risks, and foster stronger business relationships.

Educational Advantages

Learning Chinese is like exercising your brain, sharpening your memory, problem-solving skills, and creativity. Why? Because Chinese characters are logographic, they can be complex, forcing your brain to juggle information. This mental exercise builds cognitive flexibility and linguistic skills, making you a sharper thinker.

But it’s not just about mental benefits. Mastering Chinese also unlocks academic opportunities. Scholarships, exchange programs, and collaborations with top Chinese universities can be yours for the taking. Zimbabwean youth can collaborate with brilliant minds and expand their horizons beyond their dreams.

Additionally, many textbooks, workbooks, and multimedia resources are readily accessible in print and digital formats, catering to learners of different proficiency levels. The proliferation of online learning platforms and mobile applications has also improved access to Chinese material, allowing students to acquire knowledge at their own pace and convenience.

Diplomatic Relations

Diplomats and foreign officials rely on language proficiency to achieve various ends, including:

  • Engaging in diplomatic dialogue
  • Drafting agreements
  • Resolving conflicts effectively

Beyond mere translation, language proficiency facilitates cultural exchange, fosters trust, and bridges divides between people of different backgrounds. In the context of Zimbabwe-China relations, language is a key tool for diplomacy, enabling officials from both countries to engage in meaningful dialogue and cooperation on various bilateral, regional, and global issues.

By investing in Chinese language education and training for diplomats and officials, Zimbabwe can unlock new avenues for cooperation and cement its position as a strategic partner in China’s engagement with Africa.

Overcoming Challenges in Learning Mandarin

The Chinese language beckons with opportunities, yet for Zimbabwean youth, the path to learning it can feel more like a brick wall than an open gate. Here are some challenges they have to contend with.

Cost

Sure, resources are growing, but cost remains a limiting factor, with courses, books, and exams often priced beyond reach. And let’s not forget the unreliable and expensive internet that makes online learning a distant dream for many.

Limited Resource

Many Zimbabwean youth need help accessing adequate resources for learning Chinese, such as textbooks, courses, and qualified instructors. The scarcity of Chinese language programs and educational materials restricts opportunities for comprehensive learning.

Cultural and Social Barriers

The stigma surrounding non-traditional language learning can deter Zimbabwean youth from engaging with Chinese language and culture. Prevailing attitudes towards language proficiency and cultural exchange may discourage some students from pursuing Chinese language studies.

Solutions to Learning Challenges

The Zimbabwean government can allocate resources and funding towards developing Chinese language programs, scholarships, and educational materials. Establishing partnerships with Chinese educational institutions and organizations can further support initiatives aimed at promoting Chinese language education.

Additionally, universities, schools, and community organizations can expand Chinese language programs to accommodate more students and offer a variety of learning formats, including in-person classes, online courses, and self-study resources.

It’s imperative to address the challenge of limited internet access in many regions. By investing in infrastructure and making affordable internet available, even in remote areas, students can have equitable access to online learning opportunities and digital resources.

Promoting cultural sensitivity and awareness can also create a supportive learning environment for Zimbabwean youth studying Chinese. Initiatives to celebrate Chinese culture, organize cultural exchange events, and highlight the benefits of language proficiency can help overcome cultural barriers and promote intercultural understanding.

Mastering Chinese might seem like a tough climb, but the view from the top is worth it. With dedication and the right support, Zimbabwean youth can conquer this language and claim their piece of the future. So, let’s embrace the challenge, break down barriers, and step into a world of possibilities by learning Mandarin.

Opposition Man Dumps CCC, Quits Politics

By Political Reporter- Lovemore Chinoputsa, a long-serving Opposition member, has announced his resignation from the CCC and politics.

In a six-page letter posted on his Facebook page Wednesday, Chinoputsa said he was frustrated by the lack of vision in the opposition.

Below is his letter:

I come to you on this day the 14th Of February 2024, a significant day in the history of our struggle which brought a lot of changes to the political landscape of the Country.
It is a dark day in which all democracy loving citizens of this Country were dealt a major blow following the passing on of the Iconic Former Prime Minister Of The Republic Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai. May His Soul Rest In Peace.

I Chose to speak on this day as it carries a significant in the history of opposition and where we are now as the Alternative.
I am convinced beyond doubt that we have digressed from the aspirations of President Tsvangirai who sought to create a democratic vehicle to fight the excesses of the ruling ZANU PF .
It is in that respect that I will attempt to bring out to the fore some of the biggest challenges that we have faced as a country and as a political outfit that sought to replace a corrupt ZANU PF government.
It is in the public domain that I have for the past two decades worked tirelessly together with many Comrades in the pursuit of genuine democracy , freedoms and economic emancipation of the people of this great Country .
This is a journey that has its roots at the University Of Zimbabwe where we understood the task at hand that although we were fighting for academic freedoms we also carried an extra responsibility as citizens to pursue and collaborate with like-minded individuals in the fight for better Zimbabwe.
There have been serious elite contradictions within the movement in terms of which direction to take going forward and what could be the best approach to persecuting a protracted mass driven onslaught against the electoral fraud that continues to be witnessed in every electoral cycle.
The resignation of the President of the CCC was the final nail into the coffin of the short lived political outfit which despite so many false narratives was actually born out of a protracted struggle with fellow compatriots in the then MDC Alliance.
The outfit which was buried and taken to the dustbins of history with the resignation of the face of that movement was brought about by a significant life changing decision of the then MDC Alliance National Council Meeting that mandated the President to sit down with a smaller team to configure the party and come up with a vehicle that was not tainted and that could be used for the purposes of the by elections that were upcoming.
The rest is history and will not belabour you with that historical narrative as it does not form the gist of my address to you fellow Zimbabweans, suffice to say that what followed as the pronouncements leading to the formation of the outfit was a total departure from the agreed position, as a completely new outfit was formed which sought to depart from how the Party had been run in the past.
The recalls as instigated by one Tshabangu led to the total decimation of the CCC as a competent vehicle to deliver meaningful change to the people of Zimbabwe.
There were willy nilly recalls of legitimately elected Members of Parliament which as we are all aware led to the donation of several seats to ZANU PF by a cabal that was never supposed to be making decisions on behalf of the party.
The treacherous politics as represented by Tshabangu, Phulu and a few others who have openly and indirectly supported this decimation deserves the highest condemnation by any well-meaning individual in this country.
I unequivocally state that I have never understood the paternity of Tshabangu shenanigans and I in unequivocal terms call out his treacherous politics for what it is. It is a diversionary tactic that was put in place to weaken the Movement and derive many communities of legitimate representation and it casts a serious doubt on the impartiality of our judiciary system.
It is in my view a collaboration with ZANU PF to decimate and destroy the movement as well as diverting people from the failure by ZANU PF to deliver on the electoral promises they made.
The events in the Movement has not been short of drama in the past few months. The infighting that rocked the party had created fissures and alignments that were based on whether you were willing to support the leader against all odds or you were supposed to take a stance of fighting the leader by any means necessary even if it meant collaborating with ZANU PF.
This toxicity and hatred amongst colleagues left many of us who cannot be cajoled into perennial in-house fighting with no home. The jostling that had become the order of the day has inevitably brought two main factions where you either swallow hook line and sinker the machinations of the ever scheming boys and girls who I call the See No evil and Hear No Evil Brigade and remain committed to centralising decision making in one individual or you had to be on the other side with a grouping of people who will do anything to ensure that they take down the Leader by any means necessary even if it means colluding with the evil ZANU PF Regime.
However, with the resignation of the leader it seems more factions have been created and I can number them to four or five. The sum of it all is that the toxicity coming from all the factions is sickening and energy draining.
These champions of mudslinging continue to make it difficult for individuals who cherish shared responsibilities, values justice fairness, equity and meaningful solidarity with nowhere to belong to. In all this, we have people amongst fellow Comrades who have deliberately and conveniently began to use the machinations of ZEC and the Shenanigans of Tshabangu as an excuse to entrench dictatorship, muzzling of people’s views and opinions all in the name of defending the Leader.
It is a given fact that there many Conflict-preneurs who are amongst the opposition contingent who have seized every opportunity to malign and alienate others from the project. They remain wolves in sheep clothing who have taken it upon themselves to gate keep and frustrate many people out of the party.
These pseudo revolutionaries feed into the fears of the Leader to constantly whisper into his ears that there are people who want to wrestle leadership from him. Their end game cannot be understood, their motives cannot be understood, their handlers remain a mystery and I suspect that they are strategically positioned around the leader to ensure that he is in constant fear on a non-existent threat.
I wonder how such behaviour can ever win Zimbabwe for change when numbers are constantly and consistently being reduced every day. In my view, there are many people now who cannot keep up with this madness and who would rather watch from the terraces as the dog eat dog situation in the opposition continues unabated. There are many in the trenches who do not subscribe to this mudslinging .
They would rather see order prevailing .Many like me seek to see the movement back on its feet , focused on the task at hand .They want an Institution , they want systems, they want things to work , they want the collective voice to return, they wish to see leaders working together, they want to see their leaders being able to co-exist , they don’t expect their leaders to like each other but just to be able to work together.
They want to see a platform where issues can be tabled, deliberated freely and have the emerging superior views carrying the day. There are many well-meaning individuals in the opposition that I know who would want to see this happening.
They wait for the day when sanity will be restored. They are waiting for the day where everyone will accept that the Strategic ambiguity era is over, that the strategic ambiguity as a political strategy had more weaknesses than benefits. Leadership entails owning up and accepting that things did not go the way we expected. Confronting such difficult questions of the day will save the opposition and ultimately give the people of Zimbabwe a fighting chance against the Zanu pf Regime.
The efforts of President Morgan Tsvangirai has surely gone to waste with the way the opposition is being run in this country.
May His Soul Continue To rest In Peace.Let me address some of the issues that I feel has brought us to where we are. The first thing is to apologise to the people of Zimbabwe for the pretence by many of us that things were working smoothly in their beloved party.
I and many of our leaders have willingly been contributing to the mess in the opposition by keeping quiet where we ought to have spoken out, for accepting to be overpowered by a few excitable characters, for elevating a mortal man to the levels of a semi-god who cannot be questioned, who cannot be held accountable, who should think and do everything alone and who should always have his views taken as the superior views of the day.
We all did this in the name of wanting to be politically correct. I am part of the many that have aided in the creation of a dictatorship. I apologise and wish to state that I have reached my Damascene moment and will never be found perpetuating such anti –revolutionary tendencies.
I make this apology fully aware that there are many Zimbabweans who are blinded by the desire to want to see the back of ZANU PF and that they will unashamedly support and perpetuate this kind of leadership for expediency.
I am also aware of the fact that just because I have met my Damascene moment, it does not automatically follow that everyone should see things in the same manner that I see them now. I raise these issues for posterity.
I know for a fact that at this point it may not be clear to everyone but I want the people of Zimbabwe to refer back to this statement 5 years or 10 years from now and reflect on the issues that I raise today. I fully make this statement fully aware that challenging and exposing the excesses of a popular brand will come with its fair share of criticism, name calling and labelling.
I do not seek to find favours from anyone. I am doing this for POSTERITY.At a personal level I have come to the realisation that this is not what I signed up for when I willingly joined the struggle as a green horn teenager and gave myself to the service of the Motherland, foregoing all the luxuries of enjoying my young adult life, opportunities in both my academic and professional space that were lost as I pursued this struggle.
My Conscience, my Students Union Background and my Ideological inclination does not in any way allow me to continue to be part and parcel of a an excitable army that is creating and perpetuating a new type of Dictatorship, a POPULAR Dictatorship that conveniently hides behind the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to destroy people’s lives , batter people’s confidence , belittle people and causing emotional and psychological harm to people. I simply refuse.
A One-man band that has been given the leeway to transform itself into a fully-fledged dictatorship that does not value consensus building, conflict resolution and collective decision making cannot be tolerated in the 21st Century.
Conscious of the fact that our Zimbabwean politics is binary in nature , having weighed the advantages and disadvantages of just wanting to be seen to be politically correct by siding and aligning with the popular character of the day , I have decided to with immediate effect disassociate with partisan politics , by quitting politics and move away from the toxic politics of the day. I retreat into being a private citizen who will have nothing to do with the politics of the day. I will take this time to reconnect with my family and spent more time together as i compensate for the time lost over the years, I will also use this opportunity to pursue other passions.
As I round up I believe that Zimbabwe requires someone who can bring order and unity that will catapult us to economic, social and political stability. Zimbabwe is in dire need of a unifier, one who should carry the responsibility of uniting people across the political divide and propel this country to meaningful economic development in our lifetime.
Standing high on the shoulders of the departed fore fathers of this land who fought fearlessly to establish a unitary, liberated state, the next leader of Zimbabwe should be able to finish off the outstanding business of the liberation struggle which includes economic freedom and full democratisation of the state where the three levers of the state can be given the space to exercise their functions eely.
We need a leader who can navigate the complex terrain of power transfer , one who can manage state craft , one who can assure the military contingent, who can assure the business community, war veterans , women , elderly ,who can assure the “selectorates” and the political elites across the political divide , who can give confidence to the Judiciary that they are an important and equal arm of the state who should be allowed to freely undertake their work, who can assure the young boys and girls in this country that Zimbabwe can work again .
In short we need a broad based meeting of minds that transcends imaginary political lines , generations, tribes , race to make Zimbabwe work again. I find this lacking in Zimbabwe at the moment and I hope that even as I retreat into my shell and embark on life as a private citizen, God will raise one man or woman to take up this task.
God Bless Zimbabwe
I thank You
Comradely

Traditional Leader Enforces Ban On Prayer Mountain Gatherings

By A Correspondent

In Nyanga, Chief Saunyama, formerly Mr. Solomon Mapuranga, has issued a decree outlawing certain practices deemed contrary to local traditions and customs.

Installed by President Mnangagwa on November 2, 2023, Chief Saunyama aims to uphold the cultural heritage of the region, succeeding Mr. Victor Dahwa Saunyama, who served as acting chief for 13 years.

Under Chief Saunyama’s leadership, gatherings for the sale of wild fruits, such as mazhanje (sugar plum), praying in mountains, and wearing red clothing during the rainy season, are strictly prohibited.

These directives extend to the jurisdictions of Headmen Mushonga, Sanyamaropa, Madongonda, Ganje, Nyamutowa, Tsvito, and Nyamahumba.

Chief Saunyama emphasized the importance of respecting traditional norms and values to maintain harmony within the community.

The ban on the sale of wild fruits aims to preserve resources for both human and animal consumption, with penalties including the forfeiture of maize to be distributed to local wildlife.

Similarly, prayers conducted in mountainous areas are forbidden to safeguard sacred sites, some of which serve as burial grounds for traditional leaders and are integral to cultural rituals.

Additionally, the prohibition of wearing red attire during the rainy season is based on beliefs that such actions may provoke adverse weather conditions.

Headman Madongonda reiterated the significance of honoring local customs, underscoring the need for adherence to established norms despite individual rights.

Chief Saunyama’s measures seek to foster a deeper connection to cultural heritage while promoting environmental conservation and community cohesion.

Tribute To Dr Hage Geingob

ZBC News

PROVINCIAL memorial services in honour of the late former Namibian President Dr. Hage Geingob have started in the Southern African country.

In a statement, Namibia’s Information and Communication Technology Minister, Honourable Emma Theofelus said that the memorial service for the late President will be held on the 24th of February at Independence Stadium ahead of the burial on the 25th.

The people of Namibia will bid farewell to Dr Geingob through daily memorial services.

She said the daily services, which started this Monday, will be held at Sam Mujoma Stadium and the NAMCOL Centre in Katutura until the burial date.

Several leaders have paid tribute to the late Dr Geingob, describing him as a champion of democracy and a true Pan-Africanist.

President Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana described the demise of Dr Geingob as a blow to the region and continent, while South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said he will always cherish the lessons on governance given to him by his elder brother President Geingob.

Vice President of Angola’s MPLA Luisa Damiao also sent her condolence message to Namibia while confirming President Joao Lourenco’s attendance at the state funeral.

Dr Geingob, who has been described as a unifier, Pan-Africanist, freedom fighter, a dedicated and humble servant of the people of Namibia, SADC, and Africa, died on the 4th of this month after battling cancer.

He was first sworn in as President in 2015 after serving in various top political positions since Namibia’s independence in 1990.

The late Namibian President lived in exile for 27 years, spending time in Botswana, the US, and the UK, where he studied for a PhD in politics and came back to Namibia in 1989, a year before the country gained independence.

Botswana Endorses Discredited ZEC

By A Correspondent

As Botswana gears up for its own electoral process, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has embarked on a benchmarking mission to Zimbabwe, observing the preparations for the upcoming General Elections scheduled for October this year.

In a briefing held in Harare this Tuesday, Mr. Utloile Silaigwana, Chief Elections Officer of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), outlined the objectives of the visit, emphasizing a focus on the management of electoral activities and the conduct of elections.

“The delegation comprises of the Chief Public Relations Officer and the Policy Development and Voter Education Manager.

The benchmarking exercise will mainly focus on the management of electoral activities and the conduct of elections.

ZEC will also illustrate publicity activities such as its radio programmes, use of social media platforms and website as well as rebranding initiatives to the visitors,” he stated.

Mr. Silaigwana further underscored the significance of the visit, portraying it as an acknowledgment of the professionalism demonstrated by ZEC during the August 2023 general elections.

“Despite aspersions cast by some election observers on Zimbabwe’s elections, the visits are an endorsement of professionalism characteristic of ZEC’s electoral management especially in the conduct of credible elections,” he elaborated.

The delegation from Botswana follows in the footsteps of several regional electoral management bodies in Africa, including the Independent Electoral Commission of Lesotho and the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia, who have undertaken similar visits in the past.

The exchange of knowledge and experiences between electoral commissions across borders underscores a commitment to improving electoral processes and upholding democratic principles within the region.

As Botswana looks to strengthen its own electoral systems, the insights gained from Zimbabwe’s experience could prove invaluable in shaping the future of democracy in the country.

Time To Refurbish Giant National Sports Stadium

FORMER footballers have called on responsible authorities to learn from Cote d’Ivoire, after the West African nation showcased some of the best football stadiums on the continent during the just ended African Cup of Nations tournament.

This comes at a time when Zimbabwe has no football stadia to host international matches after all the local match venues failed to meet the minimum standards.

Played across six cities in Cote d’Ivoire, the delayed 2023 AFCON tournament was not just at exhibition of footballing talent, but also a showcase of the investment that country has made towards sporting infrastructure.

The Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan was the biggest with the capacity of 60,000 seats, followed by the 40 000 seater Bouaké Peace Stadium.

The other match venues for the tournament were: Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo, Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro, andLaurent Pokou Stadium in San Pédro.

This has attracted the attention of former footballers who believe Zimbabwe needs to take a leaf from the West African nation, adding that the country has had enough of the humiliation of hosting international matches away from home as was the case in November last year when the Warriors played their World Cup qualifier against Nigeria in Rwanda.

“These are the lessons that we should learn as Zimbabwe, that as long as we organise well and have enough or good infrastructure everything goes well. Cote d’Ivoire are not the richest in the world but they managed to come up with six grand stadiums to host the AFCON and the standard of play was also influenced by the quality of the pitch even the atmosphere, the stands was brilliant and this is what we should learn to do and see the biggest picture that sport unites people. All we are lacking is organised skills, we need that,” said Former Warriors and CAPS United striker, Alouis Bunjira.

“We have seen beautiful stadiums in Cote d’Ivoire in the just ended AFCON tournament, i think as the hosts they are proud and it also improves tourism, revenue with so many people coming and as a country they really gained,” noted Former Dynamos Captain, Justice Mujabvi.

The Minister of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Dr Kirsty Coventry last week said the National Sports Stadium will be ready to host international matches by 30 April this year.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Football Association Normalisation Committee has announced the appointment of Jethro Hunidzarira as the association’s new technical director.

Hunidzarira, who is taking over from Wilson Mutekede who parted ways with the local football mother body four months ago, is aware of the task that lies ahead.

“This will give us good quality of players because if you look at the players that we have now, the crew that went to the AFCON we can follow their track from the youth where they were playing up to where they are in the senior so we need to bring back this quality which comes from the development of the grassroots,” he said.

Hunidzarira is not new on the football scene after turning out for Zimbabwe Saints and is a holder of a CAF A coaching licence.

Caught In The Act

A Mutare pharmacy till operator found himself on the wrong side of the law, his deceptive actions laid bare by the unblinking eye of CCTV. Patrick Makande, the operator in question, was brought before Mutare Magistrates’ Court last Thursday, facing serious allegations of theft that shook the community and his place of employment, Gray Pharmacy, located in the heart of the Mutare Central Business District.

The magistrate presiding over the case, Mr. Tafazdwa Mhlanga, delivered a swift verdict, finding Makande guilty of theft. The judgement came with a fine of US$400, a sum that pales in comparison to the trust and integrity squandered by Makande’s actions. The prosecution, led by Mr. Tinotenda Muzondo, painted a damning picture of deceit where Makande orchestrated a scheme involving his acquaintances. These individuals were seen collecting cash and medical supplies directly from the till, under the guise of legitimate transactions—a ploy unraveled through careful scrutiny of the pharmacy’s CCTV footage.

This breach of trust and blatant theft by Makande resulted in a reported loss of US$200 for his employer, a significant amount for any business, especially one serving the healthcare needs of the community. The evidence provided by the state, supported by the visual testimony of the CCTV footage, left little room for doubt regarding Makande’s guilt in these deceptive transactions.

The incident has sparked a conversation about the need for stringent oversight and the implementation of more robust security measures in businesses to prevent such breaches of trust. It also serves as a cautionary tale about the potential vulnerabilities within retail operations, highlighting the critical role of surveillance systems in uncovering and deterring criminal activities.

As the community grapples with the fallout of this incident, the case against Patrick Makande serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of undermining the trust placed in individuals by their employers and the broader community. It underscores the importance of ethical conduct and integrity in all professional dealings, especially in sectors as sensitive as healthcare.- state media

Headmaster Found Guilty

Former Hartzell High School Head Convicted of Corruption.

In a significant development in the fight against corruption within educational institutions, Shorwi Kawadza, the former head of Hartzell High School, was convicted on charges of corruptly concealing personal interest in transactions during his tenure at the esteemed United Methodist Church-run learning institution. The conviction was handed down yesterday by Mutare Regional Magistrate, Mrs. Pethukile Msipa, who has since remanded Kawadza in custody pending sentencing scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday.

Details emerged in court revealing that between 2019 and 2022, Mutrue Investments Private Limited Company, co-directed by Kawadza, his wife, and son, engaged in business dealings with Hartzell High School, supplying a variety of goods including firewood, tomatoes, peanut butter, and vegetables. This period of undisclosed conflict of interest has raised serious concerns about the ethical governance of the institution.

The prosecutor, Mr. Tirivanhu Mutyasira, outlined that according to the United Methodist Church Operations Policies and Procedures Manual, any business transactions between Mutrue Investments and Hartzell High were classified as related party transactions. Such dealings required explicit authorization by the United Methodist Church Agencies of Annual Conference, a procedure Kawadza failed to follow, thereby violating the institution’s trust and policies.

Kawadza’s failure to declare his personal and familial interests in Mutrue Investments to the Church Agencies meant that there was no formal approval for these transactions. Furthermore, the court was informed that the Procurement Committee of Hartzell High School, which is responsible for overseeing such transactions, had not selected Mutrue Investments as an official supplier, nor had it deliberated on purchases from the company.

This conviction sheds light on the crucial importance of transparency and integrity in the management of educational institutions. Kawadza, represented by Mr. Victor Chinzamba of Mugadza, Chinzamba, and Partners, was found guilty of contravening Section 173 (a) (i) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform Act), Chapter 9:23.

As the community awaits the sentencing, this case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of breaching ethical guidelines and the importance of upholding the principles of fairness and accountability in all professional conduct.

President Chamisa Exposes Zanu PF Hypocrisy

Tinashe Sambiri

Zimbabwean opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has issued a stark warning about the dire state of the country’s economy, citing alarming increases in the cost of living and a plummeting national budget.

In a statement addressing the nation, Chamisa highlighted several concerning developments that have unfolded within a remarkably short period, attributing them to what he describes as “broken politics” and flawed electoral processes.

Chamisa’s statement underscores the profound impact of economic instability on ordinary Zimbabweans, particularly regarding the affordability of essential goods and services.

He points out that in just one month, the budget required to sustain a family of five has more than doubled, soaring from approximately ZWL$3 million in December 2023 to ZWL$6.2 million per month in January 2024. This staggering escalation places an enormous financial burden on households, especially considering that many workers are only taking home a fraction of this amount after deductions.

Furthermore, Chamisa highlights the alarming depreciation of the national budget, which has been slashed in half within the span of a month due to a significant decline in the official exchange rate.

This sharp devaluation has left the government incapacitated, struggling to meet crucial financial obligations and essential payments.

Perhaps most concerning is the exponential rise in annual inflation, which has surged by approximately 323%, reaching a staggering 1347% in the first week of February 2024.

Such hyperinflation erodes the purchasing power of citizens, exacerbating poverty and economic hardship across the nation.

Chamisa attributes these alarming economic trends to what he perceives as the consequences of fraudulent elections, disputed national processes, and a broader landscape of broken politics.

He suggests that these systemic issues have created an environment of instability and uncertainty, undermining investor confidence and perpetuating economic turmoil.

The opposition leader’s candid assessment serves as a sobering reminder of the urgent need for political reform and economic revitalization in Zimbabwe.

As the country grapples with mounting challenges, Chamisa’s words resonate as a call to action for leaders to prioritize the welfare of the people and work towards meaningful solutions to address the root causes of the economic crisis.

In conclusion, Nelson Chamisa’s impassioned plea draws attention to the human cost of political dysfunction and economic mismanagement.

His message serves as a rallying cry for change, urging stakeholders to come together in pursuit of a more prosperous and equitable future for all Zimbabweans.

Special Tribute To Morgan Tsvangirai

By A Correspondent

Morgan Tsvangirai, a prominent figure in Zimbabwean politics, left an indelible mark on the nation’s struggle for democracy and social justice.

Born on March 10, 1952, in Gutu, Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), Tsvangirai’s journey from a trade union activist to Zimbabwe’s prime minister epitomizes resilience, courage, and a steadfast commitment to democratic ideals. On this day, February 14, 2018, we remember Tsvangirai’s legacy as the doyen of democracy, whose contributions continue to inspire generations.

Early Life and Union Activism

Tsvangirai’s early life was marked by hardship, yet he persevered, driven by a desire to support his family. Leaving school prematurely, he entered the workforce, eventually finding his calling in trade union activism.

His ascent within the ranks of the Associated Mineworkers Union and later as the secretary-general of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) showcased his leadership acumen and unwavering dedication to championing the rights of workers.

Defiance Against Authoritarian Rule

Throughout his career, Tsvangirai fearlessly opposed the oppressive regime of Robert Mugabe, challenging his policies and advocating for democratic reforms.

The historic 2008 elections stand as a testament to Tsvangirai’s resilience in the face of adversity.

Despite widespread intimidation and violence targeting his supporters, Tsvangirai emerged as a symbol of hope for a nation yearning for change.

Quest for Democracy

The aftermath of the 2008 elections underscored Tsvangirai’s unwavering commitment to democratic principles.

Despite securing a significant portion of the vote, Tsvangirai’s path to presidency was obstructed by electoral irregularities and violence orchestrated by the ruling party.

His decision to participate in a runoff election despite the risks demonstrated his unwavering belief in the democratic process and his dedication to serving the people of Zimbabwe.

Legacy of Courage and SacrificeTsvangirai’s leadership extended beyond political office; it embodied the aspirations of a nation striving for freedom and justice.

His courage in the face of persecution, his steadfast resolve in pursuing democratic ideals, and his unwavering commitment to the people of Zimbabwe leave an enduring legacy that transcends borders and generations.

As we commemorate the life and legacy of Morgan Tsvangirai on this day, let us reaffirm our commitment to upholding the principles of democracy, justice, and human rights for which he so tirelessly fought.

Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all those who continue to strive for a better, more equitable world.

Morgan Tsvangirai, the doyen of democracy, will forever be remembered as a beacon of hope and a champion of the people.

Chinoputsa Quits Politics

Wezhira Munya

Today, on February 14, 2024, Mr. Lovemore “Destroyer” Chinoputsa, who previously held positions as a student leader at the University of Zimbabwe pursuing a degree in Social Work, as well as MDC National Youth Secretary General, Zaka Central losing parliamentary candidate under the MDC Alliance, and unsuccessful candidate for the Hunyani parliamentary seat in the 2023 harmonized elections under CCC, has announced his resignation from active politics.

Below is his letter of resignation from CCC and active politics:

I address you on this significant day, the 14th of February 2024, a day marked by the passing of the iconic former Prime Minister of the Republic, Dr. Morgan Richard Tsvangirai. May his soul rest in peace.

Today holds historical significance in our struggle for democracy, a journey intertwined with challenges and aspirations for a better Zimbabwe.

For the past two decades, I have diligently worked alongside fellow comrades in the pursuit of genuine democracy, freedoms, and economic emancipation for our nation.

Originating from the University of Zimbabwe, our vision extended beyond academic freedoms to the collective endeavor of building a better Zimbabwe.

However, within our movement, there emerged significant elite contradictions regarding our direction and approach in combating electoral fraud.

The recent resignation of the CCC President marked the culmination of internal strife, rendering our political outfit ineffective in delivering meaningful change to Zimbabweans.

The unfortunate recalls instigated by certain individuals further weakened our movement, facilitating the donation of parliamentary seats to ZANU PF.

Such treacherous politics, exemplified by individuals like Tshabangu and Phulu, deserve condemnation, as they undermined the integrity of our movement and its representation of the Zimbabwean people.

Internal infighting fueled by personal agendas has created factions within our ranks, perpetuating toxicity and hindering progress.

As a result, I have come to realize that this is not the path I envisioned when I joined the struggle.

My conscience and ideological principles compel me to dissociate from partisan politics and embrace a role as a private citizen.

I acknowledge the need for unity and order in Zimbabwe, underpinned by leadership committed to economic, social, and political stability.

We require a unifying figure capable of transcending political divides and steering our nation towards prosperity.

As I withdraw from active politics, I hope that God will raise a leader capable of fulfilling this crucial role.I express my gratitude to all those who have supported me throughout this journey.

Remembering Morgan Tsvangirai , the icon

By Luke Tamborinyoka

Today, marks the sixth anniversary of the death of Morgan Tsvangirai, Zimbabwe’s doyen of the democratic struggle. Tsvangirai loved his country and its people and it may have been epiphanic that he died on Valentine’s day; on the day that the consuming power of love is celebrated worldwide.

Tsvangirai left a rich legacy that is being strenuously torn asunder by the treacherous and mercenary lot among us; the wicked motley that has chosen to be Zanu PF’s willing tool in the macabre plot to decimate the people’s democratic project.

The Morgan Tsvangirai I know must certainly be violently turning in his grave at this unbridled treachery and the annihilation of his legacy by these latter-day Judas Iscariots who jointly and severally are now hobnobbing with . ZANU PF to undermine a struggle he founded, cherished and nurtured till his death on St .Valentine’s Day in 2018.

Facts are stubborn. It is trite to state that the story of Zimbabwe cannot be written without according veneration to the name of Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.

For there is no debate that Tsvangirai deserves his own space in the national narrative for the significant role he has played in shaping the country’s post-liberation politics.

Fate is a capricious woman and the whole journey was never planned, as the man himself often told me. It was fate that often tended to throw him to the deep end.

As he always told me, it all started during midnight conversations at the national labour federation’s elective congress in Gweru in 1988. He did not even want to run for office and most delegates at that elective congress, including Tsvangirai himself, had tipped veteran journalist Charles Chikerema to clinch the powerful post of secretary-general of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions.

Albert Mugabe, the brother to former President Robert Mugabe, had been leading the ZCTU and everyone at the congress was convinced that Chikerema, yet another relative of Mugabe, would ascend to the powerful post of secretary general of the ZCTU.

But the conversations among the delegates on the ominous eve of the elections in Gweru expressed doubts on whether Chikerema would be able to wean off the ZCTU from the firm clutches of government, where previous leaders had unwittingly left the country’s labour federation.

Some within the ZCTU wanted the labour body to break away from the firm clutches of government control and they were convinced Tsvangirai would be the man to drive the ZCTU to full autonomy, given the way he had run the mine workers’ union. Emissaries from the various affiliate unions spent the whole night in Morgan Tsvangirai’s hotel room seeking to convince him to run for the powerful post of secretary general of the ZCTU, the national labour federation. .

Morgan Tsvangirai, then a leader of the mineworkers’ union, eventually agreed to run after fellow delegates had made what he seemed to be legitimate arguments throughout the night about the unsuitability of Chikerema. The delegates had their misgivings on whether the veteran scribe would give the ZCTU its deserved autonomy from government control, given his relationship to Robert Mugabe.

It was almost morning when Tsvangirai finally agreed to run for the post of secretary-general, which he won a few hours later, setting the stage for a 30-year tenure in the national limelight as a doyen of both the country’s national labour union and the democratic struggle.

When I heard the news of his death at exactly 1737hours on Wednesday, 14 February 2018, I mused over how this journey that started in 1988 had painfully ended 30 years later, some 24 days before his 66th birthday.

His life was a tenuous journey in which he was prejudiced of the Presidency following his watershed victory in the elections held on 29 March 2008. Given his mammoth love for the country and its people, he humbled himself and settled for the junior post of Prime Minister.

Morgan Tsvangirai was to rescue the country from a debilitating crisis and poise the nation for stability, growth and development in a mere four years as premier of Zimbabwe. Driving a stability and growth agenda through the Government Work Programme that was steered by the Prime Minister’s Office, Tsvangirai showed his competence on the wheel of government during his four year stint as Premier of Zimbabwe. Indeed, the song Dollar for two yakauya naTsvangirai will forever stand as testimony to the verdict by ordinary Zimbabweans that the man’s tenure as Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister was synonymous with affordable prices of basic commodities and a “livable” country.

As the nation stood on the cusp of a crucial election in which he was expected to win resoundingly, fate again intervened. This time, cruel fate took him to the grave, leaving a despondent nation shell-shocked.

He was a man I knew so well, a man I served for a decade as his spokesperson until his death.

A father.

A boss.

A friend.

We travelled the world and across the country together. We spent many times talking about the country and the people he so much loved.

Tokyo, Washington, London, Canberra, Beijing, Paris, Berlin, the Swiss Alps in Davos and many other world capitals, I had the privilege of accompanying him as his spokesperson. During those trips across the globe, he often charmed the world and gave revered speeches to bemused audiences, especially during his stint as Prime Minister of Zimbabwe and leader of the country’s main opposition.

We travelled together to Windhoek, Pretoria, Luanda, Maputo, Nairobi, Accra, Dar es Salaam, Abidjan, Lagos and many other African capitals. Across the whole of Africa, I saw for myself the respect African citizens gave to this courageous African who had chosen to confront—with nothing but his bare hands and an unstinting tenacity—the murderous regime of one of Africa’s entrenched tyrants.

In the country, we travelled together from Plumtree to Chipinge, from Nyanga to Chirundu and from Mt. Darwin to Binga down in the Zambezi escarpment as he engaged in his favourite pastime—-meeting ordinary people and getting their input into how the democratic struggle ought to be prosecuted.

The last time we traversed the country together for one-and-half months—sometimes sleeping in the car—-was the period between January and February 2017 when we sought the ordinary people’s input into the MDC’s 2014 Congress resolution to enter into a formidable alliance with other political players.

We sat together until late in the night after that tour as we penned his piece after that highly informing jaunt. We titled the piece ” I Heard You ” in keeping with his natural disposition as a listening leader.

The people had unanimously and unequivocally endorsed the formation of an Alliance. This is how the MDC Alliance was formed, which Alliance was fought and eventually captured, thanks to the treacherous lot that sought to betray both Tsvangirai’s legacy and with it the hope of the generality of the people of Zimbabwe.

Tsvangirai was a boss any rational person could wish for; the only boss I know who could afford to attend funerals of relatives of his underlings, as he did in 2015 when he came unannounced to my rural home in Domboshava for the burial of my grandmother, Martha Tamborenyoka Gombera.

He was a leader who would wait to give an ear to everyone, whatever their social station. He often had tiffs with his security personnel, whom he always wanted to relax their tight protocols and allow ordinary people to shake his hand and to speak to him.

Party members and ordinary villagers would come from as far away as Mt. Darwin and be granted an ear at his residence, first in Strathaven and later in Highlands; even against the advice of security personnel who often wanted to refer these ordinary party members to channel their grievances and concerns through their respective provincial leaders.

Not with Tsvangirai, who would insist he wanted to get the untainted, raw concerns from ordinary supporters, undiluted by the strictures and drudgery of officialdom, party hierarchy and bureaucracy.

That was vintage Tsvangirai. Always a man of the people.

His death came as a shock….especially against the background of my last two moments with him.

The first of our last two personal and direct engagements was on Friday, 5 January 2018 after his meeting with Emmerson Mnangagwa who had come to visit him at his Highlands home.

It was at that meeting at his residence that he intimated to me the details of his private discussion with Mnangagwa.

At the same meeting, he told me to tell the world that he was about to leave the country and he would leave Vice President Nelson Chamisa as acting President and he asked me to call Chamisa who arrived a few minutes later.

The other two, VP Mudzuri and VP Khupe had previously acted in his absence and this was going to be Chamisa’s first stint as acting President.

That Friday Chamisa declined to be the acting, saying Khupe hated him so much and it was not going to be good to have a sulking Khupe publicly throwing all sorts of invective when the boss was not in good health. Chamisa said he did not want an impression of a fight in the cockpit when the President was being treated in hospital. Chamisa declined and suggested that his acting Presidency be passed over to Mudzuri.

It was then that President Tsvangirai told me while we all sat in his lounge to issue a statement communicating to the world that VP Mudzuri would be acting President.

For the record, present in the meeting in his lounge that Friday afternoon when Chamisa declined to act as President, apart from Tsvangirai himself, was his wife Elizabeth, his brother Manaseh Tsvangirai, President Tsvangirai’s uncle innocent Zvaipa and myself. .

President Tsvangirai’s lawyer, Innocent Chagonda, also arrived during the meeting.

It is ironic that after I had issued the communication that Mudzuri was the acting president, Khupe took issue with me, saying that as the only VP elected at Congress, she was the one who should always act in the President’s absence. I referred her queries to the President, under whose authority and direction I had done the communication.

President Tsvangirai just laughed off the whole matter and said if Khupe had issues around the acting Presidency, she should contact him.

Ironically, a month later, Mudzuri, for whom Khupe had raised concerns when he was chosen to act, was to dispute my communication of the President’s directive that Chamisa was now the acting party leader.

President Tsvangirai gave me the directive to communicate that Chamisa was now the acting President on the 7th of February 2018 after he learnt that Khupe, Mudzuri and Mwonzora were meeting with amai Joyce Mujuru in Cape Town to sculpt an alliance without his knowledge, and without the involvement of Chamisa, the VP he had given the mandate and responsibility to negotiate with other political leaders on his behalf.

My last face-to-face meeting with my boss was the following Monday, 8 January 2018, the day before he left for South Africa, never to come back alive.

The previous Friday, he had asked me to draft a belated New Year’s message to the people of Zimbabwe, in which he was hinting at his imminent retirement.

He told me that it was important to signal to the world that he would not hold the nation at ransom; that he would not hold on to the party presidency if his doctors told him his health would not permit him to withstand the rigorous of an election campaign.

He wanted to give advance notice to the people of Zimbabwe on the possibility of his retirement, which he would only confirm upon his return after consulting his doctors.

He perused his script, made minor corrections and certified that I distribute it, only for the same script to cause a major furore in the party, with some misguided elements lying that the statement did not have president Tsvangirai’s blessings.

It is important to state that present at the foyer of his Highlands residence as he authenticated that statement hinting at a possible retirement was his brother Manasseh and Jameson Timba, who later arrived as the President and I were finishing the work on his script, in which he hinted at handing over the baton to others. It was a possibility which he said he would only confirm upon his return depending on the advice from his doctors.

Sadly, he was to return with his body lying in the soft requiem of death; the inimitable raspy and raucous laughter never to be heard again at Harvest House or anywhere else for that matter.

Yes, he left for the infirmary in South Africa on Tuesday, 9 January 2018 aboard a South African Airways flight, never to return alive to the country and the people he loved so much. He regularly phoned and at one point asked me to come over to South Africa so we could discuss a lot of issues.

I told then acting president Mudzuri that president Tsvangirai wanted me in South Africa.

The then acting president promised to facilitate my trip before logistical impediments were deliberately thrown in the way to ensure that the trip never materialized.

President Tsvangirai later called to express his regrets that I had failed to turn up in South Africa.

On Wednesday, 7 February 2018, he called again using a hospital staffer’s cellphone and told me that he had learnt and had even seen pictures to the effect that Mudzuri, Khupe and Mwonzora had left the country for a meeting in Cape Town without even the courtesy of informing him, leaving Chamisa as the only VP still in the country. He said he was reverting to his first position on Friday, 5 January 2018 when he had delegated Chamisa to be the acting Though he spoke in an uncharacteristically low voice, I could tell he was angry at the team that was in SA without his knowledge when he asked me to issue a statement communicating that Chamisa was now the acting President until his return from South Africa.

President Tsvangirai told me from South Africa that his health was slowly failing him and that the thrust of the book we were working on— Service and Sacrifice —should change into a valediction and not to remain as a simple story of the party’s capacity to deliver to the people as shown during the era of the inclusive government.

I felt tears swelling in my eyes before assuring him that he would be fine and he would rejoin us in the struggle soon.

Alas, that was never to be.

My father.

My boss.

My friend.

He was a close friend who would at times call me and my wife for dinner and to assure me that he took cognizance of my loyalty and committed service to the party and to himself, oftentimes with no salary. He once invited me and my wife to his house for dinner where he shared many of his thoughts on a variety of issues in a convivial atmosphere. Also present at that meeting at his house in June 2017 was a mutual friend, Sydney Masamvu.

As the party and the nation mourned him, I could help but reminisce on the many moments we shared; the many thoughts he intimated to me on subjects such as family politics, succession and his vision for the future.

In our last conversation when he called from South Africa, he told me he had instructed the medical executives at the hospital where he was receiving treatment that apart from the members of his immediate family, I was also to be informed about his health. That is how the medical staff kept in contact with me until they called to relay the tragic message that he had passed on.

In his final moment, I would have loved the leadership then to give this man a befitting send-off. I sincerely hoped that the needless cockpit stampede should have been
put in abeyance, at least in the veneration of this hero of our time.

His will remain a story of fortitude and tenacity and there is no doubt that Morgan Tsvangirai left ineradicable footprints on the sands of the country’s history.

Thanks for the memories, Pakuru .

Rest in power, gallant son of Zimbabwe.

Botswana Electoral Commission Seeks Lessons From Discredited ZEC

AFCON Golden Boot Winner Suspended

2023 Afcon Golden Boot Award winner Emilio Nsue has been suspended by the Equatorial Guinea Football Association (FEGUIFUT).

The association suspended the striker along with Iban Salvador for indiscipline during and after the Afcon in Côte d’Ivoire.

This was confirmed in a press statement issued by FEGUIFUT on their website.

According to the statement, the pair were involved in an “unpleasant incident” during the Africa Cup, which required the intervention of the Ivorian police and “caused a significant delay in the team’s return to Equatorial Guinea”, as well as a stain on the national team’s reputation.

In addition, they are also blamed for incidents both before and after the tournament.

Meanwhile, Emilio Nsue was named the 2023 Afcon Golden Boot Award winner after scoring five goals in the tournament.

His team Equatorial Guinea reached the Round of 16, having qualified to the knockout stage as Group A winners.

Hopewell Says Chamisa Can’t Be President Cause He’s Got No Money, And Chinono Fails To Disclose The UK Dealership He Says Made Him Sportscar Rich At 25

“…Emmanuel Macron won in France and not in Africa, the realities of the two political landscapes should be studied and not compared without nuance.

Now lastly, Macron was a senior civil servant in France in the Inspectorate General of finances, he also worked as an investment banker at Rothschild Bank, after that he worked as deputy secretary general President Francois Hollande and became his advisor.
He became Minister of Economics, Industry and Technology, put simply, he was no ordinary guy.
He understood the political system and the global economic system so he was backed by solid money and not by random donations as candidates turn to do in Africa.

Contrary to what many also say, he actually ran under the banner of the En Marche, a centrist and pro-European political movement he founded in 2016.

It is important for anyone running as an independent presidential candidate to understand the unique political dynamics and differences between countries like France and Zimbabwe, and to understand that Macron was not just by himself.
What should be accentuated is that he didn’t use the traditional political parties, but he did have a vehicle.

Successful presidential campaigns in Africa require more than popularity, they require a strong and well organised political structure to scaffold the candidate and also financial backing because in fighting a ZANUPF candidate, you are essentially fighting the whole state.

Can one man fight a whole State and win in Zimbabwe or Africa?
No such chance and attempting to do so will show a lack of seriousness if one ever tried do it in-spite of all the evidence around us showing that doing so is a total lack of local political foresight…” – Hopewell Chin’ono.

Activist Hopewell Chin’ono says Chamisa can’t be president because unlike Emmanuel Macron, he has no money and no structures | Chin’ono, who changed his own name when his best friends were convicted of cheque fraud in UK, is still to disclose the dealership he claims made him property rich through a £50,000 sports car loan in 1996.

The activist who calls self by the gangsterish TB Joshua style “Daddy” title, has spent the last 6 years advising the Zimbabwe military to descend on Nelson Chamisa led tortuted activists he accuses of causing tension in the country.

He says he is the nation’s Daddy who alone exposes corruption, and he was catapulted into political stardom after the military regime he supports slapped him with charges of incitement to violence in July 2020. In the period 2021 to 2023, he has operated layers of accusations against Chamisa which include his prediction that Chamiaa was going to split his party and to lose the 2023 elections because according to him he did not conduct register to vote rallies in 2022.

https://x.com/zimeye/status/1736094271973872117?s=46

Chamisa ran nearly a thousand such rallies in 2022 alone. This time, Chin’ono has shifted to say Chamisa split his party because he is against structures.

Remembering Morgan Tsvangirai: A Champion of Democracy

President Nelson Chamisa Reveals How Emmerson Mnangagwa Is Punishing Citizens

FULL TEXT: Long Serving Opposition Cadre Quits Politics

I thank You

Comradely

I Feel For July Moyo, Says Kasukuwere

Self-exiled former ZANU PF political commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere, has urged the Government to review the Communal Lands Act so that traditional leaders, councillors and land officers work in sync to prevent the sprouting of illegal settlements across the country.

The former Local Government Minister also said while “it is not an easy task to preside over the demolition of homesteads”, if it is not done, chaos will continue unabated.

Kasukuwere made the remarks after the Government launched operation, “No To Land Barons and Illegal Settlements on Land” which has resulted in the arrest of 3 775 people as of 12 February 2024.

He posted on X:
A holistic review of the Communal Lands Act is now imperative to arrest the chaos we are witnessing.
Unplanned settlements have cropped up everywhere and because of corruption, the situation is truly out of control.
The state should move swiftly to align the land authorities, from the Village Head, Chief, Land Officers, Councillors, the Ministry of Lands and the Ministry of Local Government.

There are a raft of acts that regulate the land and more often than not, they don’t speak to each other hence the chaos.

The then Ministry of Cooperatives, Rural District and Urban authorities all have a responsibility to administer the land.

Hundreds of villagers are facing eviction from their ancestral lands for allegedly occupying gazetted land without lawful authority.

According to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), some of the villagers have been in occupation of their land for more than 40 years and made tremendous improvements to their land.

Kasukuwere called upon the Cabinet to urgently set up a committee to review existing laws and harmonise them. He said:
I suggest that the Cabinet urgently sets up a committee to review the legal instruments at hand and harmonise them.

Secondly, identify and plan how the affected families can be assisted and resettled legally.

I need not remind you of the need to give appropriate title to citizens to avoid the chaos we are seeing.

The road ahead is littered with huge obstacles for the Ministry and they must communicate effectively for society to appreciate their intentions.

Kasukuwere, however, did not condemn the demolition of villagers’ homes, a development that is taking place in the middle of the rainy season.

He said:
I feel for the Minister of Local Govt at present because it is not an easy task to preside over the demolition of homesteads and exposing vulnerable children and elders. On the other hand, if it’s not done, the chaos will continue.

Destroying a homestead is a difficult undertaking for any leader. In the absence of a clearly defined process that citizens can follow should they require land, the pain and chaos will be with us for some time to come.

President Nelson Chamisa Bemoans Soaring Cost Of Living

Gold Mafia Kingpin in Desperate Bid to Sanitize Soiled Image

By A Correspondent| Controversial businessman Simon Rudland has embarked on an image restoration campaign following revelations that he is the kingpin of a money laundering cartel that is plunging Zimbabwe’s economy into oblivion. Rudland, regarded as one of Zimbabwe’s richest men, was exposed last year in an Al Jazeera documentary titled “The Gold Mafia,” which sent shockwaves across the globe.

In a video clip circulating on social media, Rudland is seen attempting to portray his business empire as sustained by his farming ventures, cigarette business, hard work, and good rapport with his employees.

“As you can see in the video, SR (Simon Rudland) is a farmer at heart and truly cares and appreciates his employees. Our goal is to continue to spread the truth about SR,” he wrote, captioning the video on Twitter before adding, “our goal is to continue to spread the truth about SR.”

However, the stunt was met with mixed emotions, with a section of netizens berating the public relations efforts.

“Why is this guy not in jail?” Twitter user Trojan Horse commented.

“SARS should deal with this one for money laundering and other predicate crimes,” said user @TriggermanTTT.

While others could only see the gold mafia kingpin portrayed by Al Jazeera.

“Gold Mafia in Chief,” said @Tanya Zhou.

“What a guy. Mafia in Chief,” added @MandereJohn.

However, a different section praised the man.

“Simon is like that for real. He has a charming character even among his workers. Your normal kind of guy,” commented @Dudi.

“But Simon, mukomana guys. Anotsvaga mari muchinda uyo zvimwe ndezvimwe. I admire his tenacity,” said @Tongai Kasukuvere.

SA Opposition Party Targets Zimbabwean Students In New Xenophobic Attacks

By A Correspondent| In a surprising turn of events, South Africa’s opposition Patriotic Alliance (PA) party has shifted its focus to schools, alleging enrollment of Zimbabwean students and sparking fears of potential xenophobic tensions.

The party, known for its recent controversial border patrols, now seeks an audit of permits, residence documents, job visas, and asylum seekers dating back to 1994.

In a recent incident, PA members, led by deputy president Kenny Kunene, made headlines by storming Esikhisini School in Pretoria, protesting the alleged enrollment of Zimbabwean learners.

Kunene, also campaigning for the Gauteng province premiership, took to social media, confirming their visit and expressing concerns about the teaching of Shona at the school.

The PA claims that foreign students, particularly Zimbabweans, are taking spots that should go to South African nationals.

Kunene, a former teacher and businessman-turned-politician, vows to express his displeasure at education offices and, if elected, discourage schools from enrolling foreign nationals altogether.

This controversial move by the PA comes amid longstanding tensions between South Africans and the over a million Zimbabweans who have sought refuge in the country due to economic challenges.

Accusations of job displacement have fueled xenophobic sentiments, leading to deadly attacks on migrants.

Kunene’s history, marked by involvement in student politics and a prison stint in the 1980s, adds complexity to the narrative.

Despite his past, he is confident in winning the Gauteng premiership and aims to implement policies discouraging schools from admitting foreign students.

This development echoes previous incidents, such as the 2022 remarks by Limpopo Member of the Executive Committee for Health, Phophi Ramathuba, who berated Zimbabwean patients and even considered billing President Emmerson Mnangagwa for health services provided to immigrants.

These actions continue to strain relations between the two nations, prompting responses from the Zimbabwean embassy in South Africa.

Hwende Says My Relationship With Chamisa’s Solid

By Simba Chikanza | On Tuesday at 8.30pm- Zim time, I was contacted by Hon. Chalton Hwende who was complaining over headlines that criticise him.

“Vakomana headline yenyu iyi mungabva mandidarowo here?,” he asked.

I offered him a mic to speak out, and the following was our brief discussion.

Qn: Do you want to speak out?

Hwende: Not really it’s pointless at this stage but time will tell and my relationship with the President is solid I never attacked him and will never attack him.

Let me speak with you after 30minutes.

Qn: ma views evanhu ka aya… Let’s talk na 9 then.

Hwende: Kungoti vafana venyu vangadai vachingonzwawo both sides.

Qn: But the report says you troubled him and pushed him to resign when you sided with Biti’s project. How can such a relationship be termed solid?

Hwende: The President took time to pen a 13 page statement explaining his reasons. Most Zimbabweans agreed with those reasons but surely to say it was because of Hwende is far fetched my brother.

Qn: What’s happening with you is it normal? How do you claim that you didn’t trouble @nelsonchamisa when you are the very author of the nation’s most infuriating tweet insulting both Chamisa and the Zim voters on SADC fresh election mockeries?

Hwende: NO ANSWER

Qn: Were you elected to parliament to oppress the people of Zimbabwe on ED’s behalf like this your treasonous CIO tweet?

Hwende: NO ANSWER

Chamisa Keeps CCC Cabal Guessing

By Political Reporter- The country’s most popular politician, Nelson Chamisa, has kept the sinking opposition CCC guessing.

DID YOU KNOW: Shisha May Be More Harmful Than You Think!

1 hour = 100+ cigarettes
Did you know that one hour of shisha smoking is the same as inhaling more than 100 cigarettes?

Smoking shisha, hookah, or other water-pipe based tobacco product may seem harmless in a social setting, but there is no safe level of smoking for any tobacco product, whether it is shisha or cigarettes.

What is in shisha tobacco?

Shisha tobacco usually contains tobacco sweetened with fruit or molasses sugar, giving it a fruity aroma. It is smoked through a water-pipe, also sometimes known as a shisha, nargile, hookah, arghile, goza or hubble bubble.

Shisha tobacco is usually flavoured to increase the desire of the product, while also masking the harshness of the tobacco and other chemicals. Some products contain more nicotine than cigarettes, making them more addictive.

It is important to note that shisha and hookah products that do not contain tobacco are still classified as ‘tobacco products’ under South Australian law and therefore the same laws apply to shisha, that apply to other tobacco products.

Is shisha safer than smoking cigarettes?

No. Many young people are not aware that smoking shisha tobacco exposes them to similar or higher levels of harmful chemicals than cigarette smoking.

In addition, many shisha smokers don’t realise that all shisha smoke, regardless of whether it contains tobacco or not, is harmful to their health.

Second hand smoke is also a big issue for people who live or work in places where shisha is smoked. A one-hour shisha session generates second hand smoke with as much carbon monoxide as 20 cigarettes. Passive or second hand inhaling can be just as dangerous as smoking.

If the smoke is filtered through water aren’t all the toxins removed?

No. Most of the tar and fine particles are not filtered out through the water. Only around five per cent of the toxic chemicals are filtered out through water.

Also, because of the longer process of social shisha smoking, most people will inhale chemicals over a longer period of time (usually 15 minutes to several hours).

One hour of shisha = approx. 100 to 200 cigarettes.

You can also end up inhaling much more smoke from a waterpipe than from a cigarette because you usually take deep breaths and smoke for longer.

Grisly Murder Shocks Murewa Community

By A Correspondent

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has initiated an investigation into a suspected murder case following the tragic discovery of a 12-year-old boy’s body in Musami village, Murewa.

The remains were found concealed within a vending cooler box, sparking shock and concern within the community.

Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi, the spokesperson for ZRP Mashonaland East Provincial, has confirmed the incident, stating that the case has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry.

The young victim reportedly went missing earlier this month after playing with friends at Musami Business Centre.

His body was later uncovered in the vending cooler box by his younger brother, Genius Gorembeu, prompting a swift response from authorities.

This disturbing incident follows closely on the heels of another tragedy, where the deformed and decomposed body of a three-year-old girl was discovered in Guruve just two weeks prior.

In a separate development, five individuals from Hatcliffe Extension suburb in Harare are facing assault charges and will remain in custody until their plea recording scheduled for this Tuesday.

The suspects, identified as Zeripah and Natasha Kanduza, Fortunate Tembo, Olleen Vinyungwi, and Mitchel Kariwo, allegedly assaulted Alice Chaichai earlier this month.

They are accused of accusing her of disrupting marriages within the community.

One Million People Receive Cholera Vaccine

Over one million people from across the country have received the oral cholera vaccine in the past two weeks as government intensifies efforts to curb the spread of the disease.

The intensified vaccination drive is a response to the ongoing cholera outbreak, with 153 new suspected cases reported across the country, bringing the total number of suspected cases to 23,905 since the first case was detected in Chegutu a year ago.

During the weekly cholera update, Deputy Incidence Manager at the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Dr Steven Karimu highlighted Harare as the main cholera hotspot.

“Today is the 12th of February. It marks exactly a year since the inception of the outbreak you might remember that the first case of cholera was on the 12th of February 2023 in Chegutu, so it has taken us a full year. Ideally, an outbreak should be able to be controlled within two weeks so 12 months on we still have cholera. In terms of the geographical distribution of the disease burden, the majority of cases have been in Harare. It has contributed 8 042 cases Manicaland and Masvingo provinces are second. Most hit Manicaland has 5 981, Masvingo 2 665. Bulawayo has got the least hit in terms of cumulative cases from February last year Bulawayo has only recorded 29 cases,” he said.

In response to the cholera update, the government has implemented an oral cholera vaccination programme, aiming to inoculate over 2.3 million people.

Over one million individuals have so far received the vaccine.

The oral cholera vaccination campaign is focusing on cholera hotspots throughout the country.

We Are Preparing For Congress – Tshabangu

The self-declared interim Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Sengezo Tshabangu, has expressed confidence in the party’s progress despite facing criticism over recent actions.

Tshabangu’s leadership has come under scrutiny, particularly regarding recalls that have bolstered Zanu PF’s parliamentary majority.

Critics have accused Tshabangu of inadvertently aiding Zanu PF by instigating recalls that have strengthened the ruling party’s position in Parliament.

Additionally, he has been portrayed as a pawn in Zanu PF’s strategy to undermine Advocate Nelson Chamisa, the leader of the CCC.

In a recent statement published on X, Tshabangu defended the party’s direction, citing ongoing efforts to finalize the CCC’s constitution and preparations for an upcoming congress.

He emphasized the party’s commitment to inclusivity, pledging not to leave behind any members, particularly the elder statesmen.

Tshabangu dismissed detractors as “fly-by-night pseudo democrats masquerading as Change Champions,” reaffirming the party’s resolve to overcome obstacles.

Despite facing challenges and criticism, Tshabangu remains resolute in his vision for the CCC, asserting that the party will continue to strive for genuine democratic change in Zimbabwe.

Top Cop Caught Pants Down

By-A senior member of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has been removed from his position for having an illicit affair with one of his married junior officers, reported H-Metro.

Chief Superintendent Reason Ncube was removed from his position as Officer Commanding Norton District after his adulterous affair with Constable Ethel Kusangaya was exposed.

The illicit affair was exposed after Ethel’s husband, Stalin Muvengwa, fitted a car tracking system on the family vehicle.

It is alleged that Ethel, clad in police uniform, drove the family vehicle to Norton after telling her husband she was going to a different place.

Chief Supt Ncube told Ethel to park her vehicle and the two cops took a romantic drive in his car unaware that Muvengwa was trailing them.

After noticing that there was a vehicle following them, Chief Supt Ncube called someone to tow Ethel’s vehicle to a car park in Kuwadzana Extension. But it was too late as Muvengwa confronted them.

H-Metro reported sources as saying Ethel pleaded with her husband not to assault her in uniform while Chief Supt Ncube also pleaded with Muvengwa for forgiveness.

Muvengwa lambasted Chief Supt Ncube, saying that his lust had wrecked his family. He said:

Does it mean that his promotion was to abuse junior officers?

Ncube has damaged my family, my children and my standing in society.

We are now undergoing counselling to heal our children and to find peace with my in-laws.

My wife stooped so low that she emotionally and socially damaged my trust.

Cst Kusangaya is stationed at Warren Park Police Station.

400 Chipinge Villagers Persecuted Over Their Ancestral Land

Chipinge-In a disturbing turn of events, more than 400 villagers from Munyokowere village, embroiled in a pending land dispute with the Chipinge Rural District Council, found themselves at the Chipinge Magistrates Court today, February 12, 2024.

The villagers face allegations of occupying a gazetted land under the Regional, Town and Country Planning Act chapter 29.12, sparking outrage over the chaotic legal proceedings.

Despite the court ordering the villagers to return home on free bail due to unclear and improperly presented charges, concerns arise over the seemingly orchestrated harassment of innocent women and the elderly.

The court’s decision leaves questions lingering, especially considering the impracticality of accommodating over 400 people within the confines of a courtroom.

This troubling scenario follows the recent appearance of more than 300 villagers from Mahachi village under Chief Musikavanhu in court on February 9, 2024, under similar disorganized circumstances.

Villagers from Kondo in ward 5 and Maunganidze in ward 1 of Chipinge RDC are slated to face similar charges this week, yet there appears to be little improvement in the handling of these cases by both the police and local authorities.

The Chipangayi ZRP summoned over 400 Munyokowere villagers on February 10, 2024, to face what the affected parties deem frivolous charges.

Public knowledge asserts that these villagers, spanning over 16 villages in Chipinge, are natives and indigenous people, emphasizing the gravity of their rights being compromised.

The Platform for Youth and Community Development Trust, in collaboration with esteemed institutions like the University of Western Cape and national civic organizations such as Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association, and Zimbabwe Lands and Agrarian Network, has been at the forefront of advocating for and protecting the rights of the affected villagers in Chipinge.

Legal representation for the affected Mahachi and Munyokowere villagers is provided by Professor Lovemore Madhuku, who has instructed Advocate Tarisai Tazvitya in this ongoing battle for justice.

The league will commence a week later on first weekend of March.

The schedule will mark an earlier kick off to the campaign than usual.

Explaining this shift, PSL chairman Farai Jere said last month: “Our clubs are going to participate in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup tournaments, and we also have our national team that will be playing this year.

“We want them to do their business without the league being played here. That’s why we have decided to set our (to start) league early this year in February.”

Mnangagwa Associate Steals Pfumbudza Farming Inputs

By A Correspondent

A councillor from Ward 6 in Mazowe found himself in court yesterday facing charges of allegedly stealing 100 bags of fertilizer designated for distribution to villagers under the Presidential Inputs Scheme (Pfumvudza).

Councillor Shamie Sande (51) stands accused alongside Tachiona Sorotiya (45), the Zanu PF chairperson for Gonhi district in Mazowe North constituency.Concession Magistrate Mrs. Charity Maunga remanded the pair in custody until March 13.

According to the prosecution led by Mr. Tafirenyika, the alleged incident occurred on January 12, 2024, when Ward 6 received a consignment of 600 50kg bags of urea fertilizer from GMB Nzvimbo depot for distribution to villagers.

Sande purportedly received and signed for the consignment using dispatch vouchers 18709, 18711, and 18712, totaling 12.5 tonnes and 5 tonnes, respectively.

Subsequently, Sande allegedly instructed Sorotiya, his secretary, to distribute 500 50kg bags of fertilizer to villagers in ward 6, while leaving behind 100 bags at GMB Nzvimbo depot for collection the following day.

The state alleges that on January 13, around 1630hrs, Sorotiya went to the GMB depot to collect the remaining 100 bags using Ernest Musora’s Mitsubishi Canter truck registration number AAX 9418.

After collecting the bags, Sande purportedly directed Sorotiya to divert the fertilizer to Nzvimbo Growth Point, where it was shared among several individuals.

Sande is accused of receiving 20 50kg bags, Sorotiya 18, Stanley Mutizwa 16, Namatirayi Mabharani 2, Ernest Musora 4, and Paul Chisambira 4.

Charles Mtetwa, Paul Chisambiro, and Memory Chamika allegedly received 35 bags each.

The matter came to light on February 8, when an anonymous caller informed Tsungai Makumbe, the Member of Parliament for Mazowe North, who is also the complainant in the case.

Police at Chombira launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of the accused who failed to account for the stolen bags valued at US$4,600, which have not been recovered to date.

Will Tshabangu’s “Engineless” Bus Reach Destination?

Citizens Now On Their Own As Govt Sponsors Their Displacements From Ancestral Land

By A Correspondent| Several distressed villagers have asked Zimbabwean courts to intervene and stop a fresh wave of evictions being spearheaded by government across the country.

In Masvingo province, Phillip Shumba of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, on Monday 12 February 2024, filed an appeal at Masvingo Magistrates Court on behalf of the villagers, seeking to suspend an order for their eviction from their land.

The villagers were on Wednesday 7 February 2024 convicted of occupying gazetted land without lawful authority as defined in section 3(1) of the Gazetted Land (Consequential Provisions) Act by Masvingo Magistrate Ivy Jawona and sentenced to serve three months in prison, which was wholly suspended.

In addition, Magistrate Jawona ordered the villagers to vacate their land within seven days.

The villagers then engaged Shumba who asked the Masvingo Magistrates Court to stay their eviction pending the determination of their appeal against both conviction and sentence by the Masvingo High Court.

In the appeal, which was filed at Masvingo High Court on Friday 9 February 2024, the villagers argued that Magistrate Jawona erred and misdirected herself in convicting and sentencing them to serve jail terms for illegally occupying gazetted land as some of them have been in occupation of their land for more than 40 years and had effected tremendous improvements to their land.

The villagers want the High Court to overturn their conviction and set aside their sentence and refer their matter to the Constitutional Court for a determination of the constitutionality of their eviction.

The villagers argued that they were allocated land by council, which on its own, raised constitutional questions that ought to have moved the court to invoke the provisions of section 175(4) of the Constitution and refer the matter to the Constitutional Court.

They contended that section 3(5) of the Gazetted Land (Consequential Provisions) Act directly infringes their right to freedom from arbitrary eviction guaranteed in section 75 of the Constitution.

They also argued that Magistrate Jawona’s order for them to vacate the only homes they have ever known within seven days was grossly unreasonable.

In Chipinge in Manicaland province, Tariro Tazvitya of ZLHR is representing 327 villagers, who reside in Mahachi village, and are accused of illegally occupying Mahachi village.

Of the 327 villagers, 80 of them reside in Munyokowere village and are accused of illegally occupying Munyokowere village.

The villagers were brought to Chipinge Magistrates Court on 10 February 2024 for their initial remand appearance.

They were set free after their lawyer made representations to the National Prosecuting Authority arguing against putting them on remand on an incomplete docket as investigations by Zimbabwe Republic Police officers had not been complete.

Zimbabwean Opposition Leader Job Sikhala Vows to Liberate Country from Zanu PF Rule

By A Correspondent

Zimbabwean opposition figure, Job Sikhala, has reiterated his unwavering commitment to liberating Zimbabwe from what he describes as the oppressive grip of Zanu PF.

Despite facing widespread criticism, Sikhala remains resolute, declaring that he will soon unveil a definitive plan for progress.

In a recent statement delivered in Mutare, Sikhala expressed gratitude to the people of Mutare, whom he hailed as champions of change. He assured them that significant strides toward real change, beneficial to all citizens, are imminent.

Sikhala dismissed the tactics employed by what he termed as “big brothers on paper,” asserting that they offer nothing substantial to the nation.

Highlighting his personal journey, Sikhala emphasized his resilience and determination, citing his experience of walking barefoot for 20 kilometers daily from Zaka to Mazungunye Secondary School, despite the dangers posed by the crocodile-infested Siya Dam.

This challenging upbringing, he claims, has forged him into a formidable force.

He sees his mission as a calling to ensure the freedom of all Zimbabweans.

Outrage Over The Harassment of Villagers On A Pending Land Contestations With Chipinge Rural District Council

By Claris Madhuku| Today the 12th of February 2024, more than 400 villagers from Munyokowere village appeared before Chipinge Magistrates Court on allegations of staying on a gazetted land under Regional, Town and Country Planning Act chapter 29.12. Munyokowere village is ward 5 of Chipinge Rural District Council under Chief Mutema.

Chipinge Magistrates court has ordered the villagers to go back home on free bail on the basis that the charges preferred against them were not clear and neither were they properly placed before the court.

It defeats the mind how those taking these vilagers to court expect more than 400 people to fit in a courtroom.

This is now clear harassment of inocent women and the elderly, after more than 300 villagers from Mahachi village under Chief Musikavanhu were again brought to court on Friday the 9th of February 2024 under similar disorganized and chaotic situations.

Villagers of Kondo in ward 5 and Maunganidze in ward 1 of Chipinge RDC are expected again in court this week to answer to these similar charges. While the virdict will be the same, there seems to be no lessons learnt by both the police and the local authorities.

The over 400 villagers from Munyokowere were summoned on Friday the 10th of February 2024 by Chipangayi ZRP to appear in court over these frivolous charges.

It is public knowledge that these villagers from over 16 villages in Chipinge are natives and indigenous people as referenced in Munyokowere, Mahachi, Kondo and Maunganidze villages

The Platform for Youth and Community Development Trust has closely worked with reputable institutions of higher learning like the University of Western Cape ( Institute of Poverty Land and Agrarian Studies) togetjer with national based civic organisations like Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights ( ZLHR) , Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association(ZELA) , Zimbabse Lands and Agrarian Network (ZiLAN) as well as the Alliance of Community Based Organisations – ACBOs to highlight and protect the rights of the affected villagers in Chipinge.

The affected Mahachi and Munyokowere villagers are being represented by Professor Lovemore Madhuku who instructed Advocate Tarisai Tazvitya.

Carter Centre Releases Final Report On 23 August Harmonized Elections

The Carter Center today released the final report from its international election observation mission to Zimbabwe’s August 23 harmonized elections.

The report concluded that the overall electoral process did not meet Zimbabwe’s regional and international commitments or the democratic aspirations of Zimbabweans. It offers recommendations to the Zimbabwean government to help bring its electoral processes closer in line with international standards for democratic elections.

The Carter Center found that the election took place in a restricted political environment with an unlevel playing field. This limited candidates from competing on equal terms and prevented the expression of the will of Zimbabweans. Election administration lacked independence and transparency in key areas, undermining the credibility of the process. Critical election information, including the final voters’ roll and list of polling stations, was not readily available to stakeholders.

Only modest electoral reforms were enacted before the election, despite government steps to bring the laws into alignment with the constitution. Laws restricting freedoms of speech, movement, and association increased political tensions and polarization among the electorate and intimidated civil society groups leading up to election day. More extensive changes are needed to lift restrictions on fundamental freedoms of speech, expression, and assembly as well as to promote women’s representation in elected offices.

Election day was largely peaceful and administered well by polling staff. However, extensive voting delays caused by ballot shortages in several constituencies, including in some urban wards considered to be opposition strongholds, likely affected voter turnout. Observers reported numerous instances of assisted voting in rural areas, raising concerns that secrecy of the vote may have been compromised.

The postelection period was characterized by several cases of politically motivated violence, surveillance, reported abductions and detentions of opposition party and civil society activists, and other alleged violations of human rights. Recalls of opposition members of parliament and councilors disenfranchised voters in their respective constituencies, contributing to a decline of democracy in Zimbabwe.

Background

On July 29, 2023, the Center deployed an international election observation mission to observe Zimbabwe’s 2023 harmonized elections. The Center assessed the compliance of the electoral process with regional and international obligations and standards for democratic elections, including principles enshrined in national law, the Southern African Development Community Principles and Guidelines Governing Elections, and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, among others.

The Carter Center conducted its election observation mission in accordance with the 2005 Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation. Since 1989, The Carter Center has observed more than 115 elections in over 40 countries, including the United States.

Land Dispossession and Legal Battles in Chipinge: A Call for Mediation to Restore Peace and Protect Livelihoods

By Owen Dhliwayo| Land dispossession and arbitrary arrests have cast a shadow over the tranquility of 16 out of the 30 rural wards in Chipinge district since the establishment of an ethanol plant in Chisumbanje village in 2008.

From that point onward, Chisumbanje and Chinyamukwakwa communities resisted a large-scale project that, while promising development, was built upon the widespread dispossession of rural people.

This unsettling trend has now extended its reach to other communities, including Mahachi, Kondo, Munyokowere, Ndiyadzo, and GreenValley. These communities find themselves entangled in a broader failure of tenure dualism, positioned as a central blueprint for modernizing land systems in the pursuit of development.

Recent events, specifically on the 9th and 12th of February 2024, saw close to 700 villagers from Mahachi and Munyokowere villages appearing before the Chipinge Magistrates court due to a land dispute with the Chipinge Rural District Council.

Charges were brought under “section 24(1) as read with section 24(4) of the Regional, Town and Community Planning Act Chapter 29:12,” citing the villagers’ involvement in “unlawful development without permission.”

The magistrate released the villagers on free bail, citing unclear charges improperly presented before the court.

Speculation is rife that Kondo and Maunganidze villagers may face similar charges in the coming week. In addressing this longstanding dispute, mediation emerges as a preferred approach, offering a comprehensive solution that encompasses issues of land ownership, resource management, community relations, and secure livelihoods.

Mediation fosters trust, cooperation, and peace, providing a platform to resolve land disputes and promote stability within affected communities.

Mediation, distinct from litigation, focuses on finding common ground rather than determining right or wrong in a dispute.

Given the potential for land disputes to escalate into violent confrontations linked to exclusion, social discrimination, and economic marginalization, supporting multi-stakeholder platforms becomes imperative.

These platforms facilitate discussions on sensitive policies and practices through mediation, promoting peace, securing land rights, improving livelihoods, and restoring social balance in affected communities.

Continued confrontation poses the risk of escalating violence and insecurity as communities struggle to defend their land rights. Families, like the one in Mahachi, face the harsh reality of relocation to neighboring countries, leading to an increase in landlessness and homelessness among the vulnerable and poor. The informal sector becomes a precarious lifeline for many, as they grapple with the inability to pay council lease and rentals.

Mediation emerges as a crucial avenue for dispute resolution, acknowledging the inherent risks of social tensions accompanying development interventions, particularly those related to land use.

The historical significance of land as a colonial bedrock, coupled with unaddressed social and economic inequalities in the decolonization process, amplifies tensions.

Mediation emphasizes the importance of broader community acceptance to generate consensus, recognizing that land, at the foundation of community and social life, demands careful consideration.

In Chipinge district, land stands as both a valuable resource and a source of tension, manifesting in displacement, loss of livelihoods, and human rights violations. The conflict arises from its integral role in community and social life.

For instance, in Mahachi, the local state’s use of urban development plans based on the 1982 National Transition Development Plan has led to the Gazetting of Checheche in 1982 with an initial land size of 1055 hectares.

However, the local state has expanded the land size to approximately 2203 hectares, necessitating the acquisition of adjacent communal land.

71 People Have Died Of Cholera In Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe has reported a total of 454 suspected and 71 confirmed deaths since the outbreak of cholera in February last year.

Monday marked exactly 12 months since the first recorded case of the cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe.

During a press briefing held in Harare on Monday, Deputy Cholera Incident Manager of the Health Ministry, Stephen Karim, provided an update, noting a decline in the fatality rate.

“Regrettably, there have been fatalities along the way. To date, we have recorded 71 confirmed culture-positive deaths and 454 suspected cholera deaths.

“On a positive note, our fatality rate has decreased from 2.2% to 1.9%, indicating an improvement in case management,” he stated.

The country has surpassed the 20,000 mark in terms of all suspected cases, with a cumulative total of 23,935 reported cases. Of these, 23,147 individuals have recovered, leaving 233 patients currently admitted.

Regarding the geographical distribution of the disease, Harare has reported the highest number of cases at 8,044, followed by Manicaland with 5,981 and Masvingo with 2,665. Bulawayo has the lowest number of cases, recording 29 infections since February last year.

To address the situation, the Health Ministry, in collaboration with partners such as Unicef and the World Health Organization, has initiated door-to-door Oral Cholera Vaccination (OVC) campaigns targeting hotspot areas.

Due to limited global vaccine supplies, individuals are currently receiving a single dose, with the country awaiting additional shipments.

“We are facing a shortage in the supply of OVC. It is not abundantly available, and there is rationalization in distribution. Given the high demand and limited supply, most SADC countries are affected by cholera. Therefore, we are administering one dose due to insufficient global supplies.

“Vaccine shipments are arriving in batches, contributing to the shortage,” Karim explained.

Receiving a single dose of OVC provides protection for six months. Ideally, individuals should receive two shots, spaced two to six weeks apart.

“With a full course of two doses, protection extends to three years, allowing us time to address other cholera transmission factors,” Karim added.

Tendai Beast Mtawarira Launches Transformative Pan-African Female-Focused Leadership And Education Initiative, Lead Like a Girl

Durban, South Africa, 13 February 2024: The Beast Foundation, in collaboration with Elyseum Family Office (Elyseum), is pleased to announce the launch of the Lead Like a Girl programme aimed at empowering young women from underprivileged contexts in South Africa and Zimbabwe, providing them with opportunities to realise their full potential.

Arising from a partnership established in July 2023 between The Beast Foundation and Elyseum, this visionary programme is geared towards creating a brighter future by fostering leaderships skills and generating opportunities for success among younger women in marginalised communities.

Recognising the disparities in educational resources, Lead Like a Girl offers a well-rounded environment with expert mentorship and leadership development for young women. Structured around five core pillars, Lead Like a Girl encompasses crucial aspects such as schooling support (including tuition, boarding fees, textbooks, and learning materials), annual leadership camps, inter-African country visits, ongoing mentorship, and a dedicated alumni community.

Partnering with development organisations like The Amathuba Foundation, The Imbeleko Foundation, Mondi South Africa, and Higherlife Foundation Zimbabwe, the first cohort of 15 learners from KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng in South Africa, as well as Harare and Bulawayo in Zimbabwe, was carefully selected based on academic, sporting, and cultural achievements, as well as financial need.

“Lead Like a Girl represents a collective effort to uplift young women and foster positive change in underserved communities across Africa. Through mentorship, scholarships, the influence of inspiring female patrons, and the establishment of a robust alumni network, our goal with Lead Like a Girl is clear: to provide unwavering support, comprehensive training, and quality education to young girls. We aim to nurture them into formidable future leaders, in turn, empowering them to guide the next generation of young girls as they forge their own unique paths,” says Chairman of The Beast Foundation, Tendai Mtawarira.

Lead Like a Girl aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goals 4, Quality Education, and 5, Gender Equality. RBZ Targets Local Firm Over Gross Allegations Of Misconduct

THE Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has launched an inquiry into Kreamorn Investments (Private) Limited, following gross allegations of misconduct, a local online has reported.

The investigation was prompted by a complaint from businessman Tendai Mashamhanda.

In a letter dated 7 December 2023, the Reserve Bank raised concerns over a payment of US$270,000 made by Kreamorn Investments to the High Court Sheriff bank account on 24 October 2018 for and on behalf of Kingstone Hamutendi Munyawarara and Bariadie Investments Private Limited.

The complainant alleges serious violations, accusing Kreamorn Investments of contravening sections 30(2) and 23(1)(c) of the legal framework governing the sale of immovable property through public auction. Additionally, there are claims that the company engaged in fraudulent transactions, producing falsified bank statements and deposit slips for non-existent deposits, in disregard of section 19 of the Microfinance Act.

The Managing Director of Kreamorn Investments, as addressed in the letter, has been given a seven-day ultimatum to respond to these allegations. The letter emphasizes the need for the company to provide documentary evidence to support its position.

Commenting on the unfolding investigation, Mashamhanda expressed his concerns, stating,

“The allegations against Kreamorn Investments raise serious questions about the integrity of the auction process and the adherence to established financial regulations. The public deserves transparency and accountability in such matters.”

Kreamorn had for long maintained a squakey clean image but was exposed in this development .

The Munyawarara family is no stranger to controversy, sometime last year Kreamorn boss Tendai’s cousin Takudzwa appeared in court after duping Garwe owner Mandy Mvukwe of USD48 000 botched mobile toilets deal.

Opposition Party Writes To SADC Demanding Fresh Polls

By A Correspondent| An opposition party by the name People’s Patriotic Front has written to the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) demanding fresh elections in Zimbabwe.

In its letter dated 12 February 2024, PPF leader Zvaringeni Samuel Chasi said the 23 August 2023 harmonised elections were not conducted in accordance with the Electoral Act or the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

“Standards to Principles and Guidelines Governing to Democratic Elections from SADC, AU and UN which Zimbabwe is a full member state were not adhered,” Chasi said.

He called on the United Nations to hold an extraordinary session to nullify the 2023 elections.

“United Nations Security Council must hold virtual extra -ordinary session and nullify the events of 23-24 August 2023 Fraudulent Elections, in uniformity with Southern African Development Community and African Union,” Chasi added.

He poured cold water on the calls for dialogue saying it does not work in Zimbabwe saying a neutral venue outside the country would work better as citizens are living in fear of the ruling party.

“Dialogue does not work in Zimbabwe, all processes in preparatory of Fresh Elections must be conducted outside of Zimbabwe as the case of 1979 Lancaster House Agreements, for a neutral and free environment without victimization. Citizens shall not be drawn to battle lines of theatricality and deception of ZanuPf succession rivalry for any potential GNUs or Transitions.

“The political crisis must be resolved with urgency and without partiality, its millions of lives at stake we talking about with bottled citizens on promenade. Zimbabwe is undergoing economic meltdown with majority of citizens being exploited by the regime. We taking democratic routes in the quest for our freedoms as peaceful citizens. We Demand for Free and Fair elections into be Held in Zimbabwe by June 2024 and totally reject the outcome of results which were announced by Zimbabwe Electoral Commission,” said Chasi.

Govt Agencies Accused Of Protecting Dodgy And Spooky Chinese Business Woman

Zimbabwean authorities are facing serious accusations of protecting a dodgy and spooky Chinese businesswoman with a vast network of high-level connections penetrating political, diplomatic, state security services and business circles over an illegal purchase of cyanide to cover up tracks on charges of externalisation of foreign currency, as well as wildlife poaching activities.

Documents seen by a local news agency say police, Environmental Management Authority (Ema) and government officials are protecting Chinese national Li Song (52) who bought and stored about 40 tonnes of cyanide illegally at different places in a bid to use it in court to obstruct the course of justice or defeat the ends of justice by producing it as evidence of a product imported using money she unlawfully sent offshore to China.

Part of the cyanide was given to her friend Wayne Jardine, a Bulawayo-based businessman and professional hunter. It is feared that cyanide was used for poaching of wildlife.

Cyanide — a deadly fast-acting chemical — has been used by criminal syndicates to poison Zimbabwe’s wildlife amid poaching and killing of animals for their money-spinning body parts.

Documents show that former Posryn Properties (Pvt) Ltd director Marida Maria Magdalena Van Der Spuy, a South African national, had secretly ordered the illegal storage of the cyanide unbeknownst to her co-directors in criminal contravention of health and safety laws on behalf of Song.

The cyanide was stored at 105 Plumtree Road, Bualwayo, owned by Posryn Properties.

Documents say it was bought from Curechem Overseas (Pvt) Ltd located on 1 Williams Way, Msasa, Harare and then transported to its Bulawayo branch whose address 28 Josiah Chinamano Street after it was shipped to the Queens Mine in Bubi District, on the orders of Li Song, but rejected by Francesco Marconati, her estranged husband, who is also a co-owner and director of the Queens Mine holding company.

Curechem is leading supplier of chemicals with a head office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and offices in sub-Saharan Africa – Zambia, Tanzania, India, Mozambique, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

“This cyanide issue is a big scandal. Song is facing fraud and externalisation of foreign currency charges. She was reported to police by her ex-husband Marconati who was a co-director with her at Eagle Italian Shoes,” a source close to the issue said.

“The company supplies the Zimbabwe National Army, Zimbabwe Prison Services and Zimbabwe Republic Police, among other state institutions, with leather shoes, helmets and baton sticks. As a result, Song has connections with the Office of the President and Cabinet, government ministers and senior officials, state security structures and diplomats.

She also has connections in business and that makes her a powerful person, although she operates in the shadows and the underworld. It is rare to even see her photos as she does not want to be photographed by anyone. I doubt that even Marconati has her pictures.”

After their divorce and fallout as directors in their various companies, Marconati filed charges of fraud, perjury and externalisation of forex against Song, triggered by a dispute between the directors in 2020.

In October 2021, Marconati wrote a letter of complaint addressed to Police Commissioner Godwin Matanga and copied to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc), saying police assistant commissioner Jealous Nyabasa and his subordinates were protecting Song.

Even in this cyanide scandal, Nyabasa’s name has cropped up. Investigating officers in Bulawayo and their bosses in Harare, including Nyabasa, are baulking at acting against Song after police reports have been made against her and there are numerous witnesses.

EMA has also been prevaricating. It was pressured to issue a seizure order on the cyanide, but still allowed Song to get away with slap on the wrist, mild reprimand and a small fine of about US$1000.

However, EMA is under pressure and scrutiny by some well-connected private investigators who want it to act with tough measures.

Song and her colleagues are said to have told complainants that nothing will happen to her. It is said secret manoeuvres are now being made to get the National Prosecuting Authorities to drop charges against her as the cyanide scam has been exposed, making it difficult to produce the chemical as evidence of a product imported to justify externalisation of foreign currency.

Investigations have shown that contrary to Song’s claims that she has imported the cyanide for the Queens gold mine which is located in Bubi, Matabeleland region that she co-owns with Marconati – who rejected the product when she tried to get the holding company to store it for her – it was bought in Harare and transported for storage in Bulawayo.

The cyanide would have been used in court as evidence of an imported consignment to prove that she had not externalised funds, but paid for the “imported” chemical cargo offshore.

The cyanide was initially warehoused at Curechem Bulawayo after it was rejected by Marconati as a director of the Queens Mine.

However, documents show that Curechem Bulawayo wrote to Song and her team in September last year, saying it was unable to store “more of stocks which the Queens Mine rejected”.

“We need to know where we should put the product,” one email written by Curechem to Song says.

Investigations show that the cyanide was bought from Curechem Harare last year in June and immediately transported to Bulawayo. It was then sent to the Queens Mine in Bubi where it was rejected by Marconati. From there it went Curechem Bulawayo and then sent to 105 Plumtree Road, Bulawayo, a property owned by Posryn Properties.

Documents say Van Der Spuy, who had been terminated for cause by Posry on 9 January 2024, instructed the workers at Posryn which she managed to use the company’s warehouses to store the cyanide illegally, with Jardine’s collaboration.

The cyanide was discovered on 12 January 2024 after a routine inspection by the other two Posryn directors, according to a police report that was made on 19 January 2024. The directors immediately reported the illegal find to the police and EMA.

However, police and EMA are prevaricating instead of taking decisive action. Despite issuing a seizure order, EMA is also now flinching again.

Zimbabwe is a signatory to an International Treaty on the use and handling of cyanide.
According to Zimbabwe’s Hazardous Substances Act, cyanide can only be sold to qualified customers in the mining and chemical industries by expert chemical distributors.

Most of these customers are gold miners who need to possess EMA licences permitting them to transport, store hold and use cyanide. Qualified chemical distributors must obtain a license from the Mining and Mineral Development Department first.

Song is not following the laws that govern the purchase, transportation and storage of cyanide, documents say.

On 12 January the directors of Posryn Properties, where the cyanide was illegally and covertly stored, discovered the product at their premises, 105 Plumtree Road, Bulawayo, and immediately reported the discovery to the authorities. They investigated the issue and discovered that it was Van Der Spuy, a wayward director of Posryn Properties until termination of her contract on 9 January 2024, who ordered workers to hide the cyanide at the premises,” one document says.

Investigations show that Van Der Spuy ordered her subordinates, innocent Posryn workers, to allow for the storage of cyanide with the assistance of Jardine who took a “1.1 tonne pallet and stored them secretly away at another small storeroom.”

Sources involved in the investigation say the problem is three-fold: That cyanide is illegally transported and stored, some of it was removed and possibly used for poaching, and police and EMA authorities are reluctant to act against Song due to her high-level political, diplomatic, security and business links.

A lot of animals in Zimbabwe are killed for their parts, for instance elephants for their tusks, rhinoceros for their horns and crocodiles for their skins. The parts are money-spinning in local and international markets, particularly Asia.

Wildlife crime is a big business. Run by dangerous local and international networks, animal parts are trafficked much like illegal drugs and arms.

As the use of cyanide becomes more prevalent in the artisanal and small-scale gold mining sector worldwide, miners, government regulators and other stakeholders need to urgently ensure safer cyanide use and management.

A growing body of evidence suggests that cyanidation is spreading from industrial gold mining to smaller mining operations, and now poaching. In the past decade, poisoning of wildlife waterholes in Zimbabwe has been rife.

In 2013, more than 300 elephants died in the Hwange National Park as a result of poachers lacing the park’s watering holes and salt licks with cyanide poison.

After that, Zimbabwean rangers in 2015 found bodies of 22 more elephants that were poisoned with cyanide. The grim discovery brought to 62 the number of elephants poisoned by poachers around Hwange. In 2016, five elephants were poisoned cyanide. Six elephants were found dead recently.

This trend was repeated throughout the decade and still persists at the moment.

Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority spokesperson Tinashe Farawo confirmed the incident of the killings of six elephants to The NewsHawks, indicating suspects have been arrested and would appear in court soon.

“We have an incident where six elephants were found dead in the Lupane area. Some suspects have been arrested and will be appearing in court soon,” he said.

A Posryn Properties spokesperson said last week it had reported the matter to police and were willing to help with investigations. However, police are not acting. Sources say they are protecting Song and other offenders.

Bulawayo investigating officer detective chief inspector only identified as Dube did not wish to comment.

Jardine admitted to unlawfully storing cyanide at the warehouse, while Van Der Spuy said receiving and storing cyanide illegally was “a “problem”.

Unresolved 23 August Election Dispute Plunges Zimbabwe Into Economic Crisis

Catholic Bishops yesterday said the unresolved August 2023 election dispute has plunged the lives of ordinary citizens into disarray, amid a deepening economic meltdown where the majority is struggling to put food on the table.

Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has refused to accept the results of the August 2023 harmonised elections in which President Emmerson Mnangagwa was declared the winner.

Chamisa, who recently dumped the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), theparty he led to elections citing infiltration by Mnangagwa’s Zanu-PF, argued that the poll was a “gigantic fraud”.

In their message to mark the beginning of the Catholic Church Lenten season, the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference (ZCBC) highlighted a growing fear among the citizens of authoritarian rule under a one-party State.

This comes after Zanu-PF secured a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly following a series of recalls of CCC legislators by self-imposed interim secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu.

“The unresolved political contests since the August 2023 elections have not left the country in a good space. Locally, there are fears among people that we are moving towards a one-party State, with democracy dying a slow death.”

The bishops added: “Regionally, there remains a belief that we can resolve these political challenges if we are willing to put our heads together as people of goodwill.”

The ZCBC said Zimbabwe continued to suffer from the displacement of families due to the non-performance of the economy. The decision by the government to raise taxes at a time when ordinary people can hardly afford a meal a day has worsened the family situation, they said, adding that it had become unbearably expensive for the poor and elderly to live due to a sharp increases in the price of basic commodities.

The Catholic bishops said most of the challenges were a result of “bad politics” where leaders were implementing failing policies.

“Whereas some of these ills are a result of natural disasters, most of them are man-made and are not accidental. Poverty in the world is a direct result of political and economic policies of governments, political parties and big businesses.

“It is a result of policies and systems. In the light of bad politics, failed economic systems and their devastating effects, many people are in despair.”

They said the people felt let down by their leaders and institutions hence they were losing hope.

“It is this loss of hope that can be damning, for as they say, ‘If you have no hope, you have no reason to live.’ It is in a people plunged into despair, a world characterised by the ‘deficit of hope,’ that the Holy Father suggests a year of prayer, that the Synod urges us to continue walking together. Prayer is not an escape from what we see. It is a way of finding solutions to challenges we are grappling with.”

Posting on X (formerly Twitter) yesterday, Chamisa also said the economic challenges afflicting the country were a result of the disputed August 2023 polls.

“The consequences of broken politics… Within a space of just a month, the economy has registered the following disturbing developments: 1. The budget for a family of five has doubled from around ZWL$3 million in December 2023 to ZWL$6,2 million per month in January 2024.

“2. The value of the national budget has been halved within a month after the official exchange depreciated by more than 100% — incapacitating the Government of Zimbabwe from meeting critical payments. 3. Annual inflation rose by about 323 percentage points to hit 1 347% in the first week of February 2024. All these are symptoms of fraudulent elections, disputed national processes and broken politics.”

The bishops also expressed concern over a rising ungodly society.

“The challenge with our modern society is that we have become so secular that we envision a world without God. We have relegated God to the fringes of our world.

“We worry about God’s world and its problems, and we are seeking solutions to it that do not involve God. We now have more faith in the things of God, and we have forgotten the one who gives us those things.”

The Players, Coaches and Teams that failed to impress at AFCON 2024

AFCON is well underway. And like every football tournament, especially on the international circuit, players, coaches and nations head into the competition with the dream of being successful and being declared the kings of African football. But already, there have been a number of disappointments, with players, coaches and teams failing to impress.

Ghana and Chris Hughton

Ghana exited the previous AFCON tournament at the group stage, but this time around, and especially with Chris Hughton at the helm, there was hope for better. And when it came to football match betting odds on Hughton’s team achieving some degree of success in the tournament, it looked quite favourable until they were defeated by Cape Verde in a shock result. Things didn’t get much better, with Ghana, one of the strongest teams on paper, registering two draws after that. They were knocked out once again at the group stage, and Hughton was also fired.

Ivory Coast and Jean-Louis Gasset

It had been forty years since Ivory Coast hosted AFCON, so this year was a special one, and a lot of excitement and expectation surrounded the hosts. They were tipped to at least make the final on home soil, and after victory in their tournament opener, two defeats followed, with an embarrassing 4-0 loss to Equatorial Guinea. While Ivory Coast are still in the competition at the time of writing, the same can’t be said for manager Jean-Louis Gasset. He’s been replaced during the tournament by Emerse Fae.

Victor Osimhen

It’s fair to say that when you’re talking African strikers, Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen is right up there with the very best. And many people felt that Nigeria would be in with a chance of success at AFCON if the Napoli attacker were on form in front of goal. However, while Nigeria are going great guns and could be the team to beat in the Ivory Coast, goalscoring form appears to have deserted Osimhen. He’s only scored one goal so far, with goalscoring duties being taken on by Ademola Lookman by the looks of things.

Mohamed Salad

Now, while any player getting injured isn’t usually their fault, it’s still a disappointment. And when it happens to the most high-profile player at AFCON, Liverpool and Egypt talisman Mohamed Salah, it’s probably the biggest disappointment possible. Salah has won most things in football, but not AFCON, and after going close previously, this was the year for him and Egypt. Unfortunately, the Egypt captain was forced off with injury and had to return to Liverpool for treatment in the hope of returning to the tournament further down the line. Unfortunately, Egypt were knocked out at the last sixteen stage on penalties by DR Congo.

International football tournaments always have winners and losers, and it’s arguably what makes them so fascinating. While there’s still a chance for the Ivory Coast and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen to hit the high notes, the same can’t be said for Ghana and Chris Hughton or Mohamed Salah and Egypt.

Hopewell Chin’ono’s Hang Cooks Up New Story Accusing Chamisa’s Leadership of Stealing Election Money

Editorial: Hopewell Chin’ono’s social media gang has cooked up a new story that accuses Nelson Chamisa’s leadership of stealing election campaign money in the 2023 elections after the activist spent the whole 2023 year spreading claims that Chamisa would split his party and lose the polls because according to him (Chin’ono) he didn’t convene register to vote rallies (in the face of video evidence of a thousand such meetings held across the country).

Chin’ono’s new accusation adds to a large pile of others he’s built since 2020 when he announced on 28 May 2020 that he would single handedly outmaneuvre Chamisa’s party and evedy jewsoaper so he becomes the nation’s “Daddy” character who alone exposes ZANU PF, all boasts that preceded an event where the ZANU PF regime slapped him with dismissable charges of incitement to violence that swiftly promoted him to political stardom. (Screen print).

In the 2020 year alone, Mr. Hopewell Chin’ono had achieved strides of appointing himself the community “Daddy” character, saying since his 28th May 2020 tweets, that he alone can expose corruption better than Chamisa’s party, just a few weeks before the military regime slapped him with dismissable charges of incitement to violence, in dramatic police action that many fake activists have been served who include, Tinashe Jonasi, and Emmerson Mnangagwa so to promote them to political stardom.

Throughout the 2018 to 2023, activism has been a facade in Mr Hopewell Chin’ono’s conduct, as he has operated a four pronged messaging:

1. Daddy’ism
2. Militarism
3. Obfuscationism.
4. Money-ism

Daddy’ism. – Daddy’sts are individuals proven in multiple prosecutions around the world to be cunning manipulators and groomers of the minds of predominantly women for sex. He announces himself to people by the title, Daddy.
Multiple sources have spoken on video who include an NHS expert over unchallenged allegations against Mr Hopewell Chin’ono’s character over manipulating women for sensual pleasures.

2. Militarism. Mr Hopewell Chino’no who accuses Nelson Chamisa of dictatorship, has himself been the worst of any such kind, a cold militarist- a researcher who advises military deployment on citizens while accusing them of tension. He reveals that he has recently advised the Ministry Of Defence that the Nelson Chamisa aligned civil society is causing tension with the government, so the best way to deal with them is to descend on them regularly, ideas that have now gotten the entire Chamisa party crushed by the army, beginning with the take over of Harvest House building with the assistance of the military.

3. Obfuscationism. Mr Hopewell Chinono has practised the art of changing names, faces, roles and professions since his name change [from Hopewell Mukusha] in 2001, just after his closest friends were convicted of serious cheque fraud in UK, and he had amassed millions of pounds which he claims were built from a £50,000 sportscar credit facility (lender whose name he avoids dislcosing). After being asked to do the simple task of disclosure, Hopewell Chin’ono has for years avoided this standard request.

Hopewell Chin’ono has failed multiple proceeds of crime tests, including the one done by one of his employers, Geoff Nyarota.

4. Money’ism.

Piled on the first 3, Mr Hopewell Chin’ono regularly debates with people using his vast untraceable wealth as a symbolic tool to crush their confidence. He uses the “learn or perish,” term which is utilised by many false prophets to threaten their subjects so they do not raise questions to them. He uses this phrase by saying that everybody should listen to him because they do not have a fully paid-up home.- ZimEye

ZEC Initiates 7 Months Late Cleanup of Voters’ Roll, Raising Eyebrows

By Dorrothy Moyo | In a move that has sparked widespread discussion and scrutiny, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has announced its plans to purge the voters’ roll of 4,562 deceased individuals, a significant action taken seven months post the 2023 elections—an electoral process that faced condemnation from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) electoral observers for irregularities. This delayed initiative, disclosed in an extraordinary Government Gazette General Notice 193 of 2024 on February 9, has raised questions about the timing and efficiency of the electoral body’s maintenance of the voters’ roll.

ZEC’s Chief Elections Officer, Mr. Utloile Silaigwana, detailed the commission’s intention to remove the names of deceased persons from the roll, citing the legal basis for this action under the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13]. This process, which Silaigwana emphasizes as routine and ongoing, relies on death reports provided by the Civil Registry Department. Despite these assurances, the timing of the announcement, coming several months after the contentious elections, has led to skepticism about the electoral commission’s diligence and the potential implications for the integrity of the electoral process.

The notice issued by ZEC also includes provisions for those mistakenly listed as deceased to appeal against their inclusion in the removal schedule. This safeguard, while necessary, underscores the complexities and challenges involved in maintaining an accurate and up-to-date voters’ roll in Zimbabwe.

The electoral body’s practice of periodically removing deceased voters from the roll aims to prevent voter fraud, ensuring that no one can cast a vote using the identity of a deceased individual. However, the late announcement of this significant cleanup operation, following an election criticized for its fairness and transparency, has intensified the scrutiny on ZEC’s operational procedures and raised concerns about the overall electoral framework in Zimbabwe.

As the ZEC moves forward with this cleanup, the focus remains on the commission’s ability to implement efficient and timely updates to the voters’ roll, reinforcing the integrity of the electoral process in Zimbabwe. The aftermath of the 2023 elections and the actions taken by electoral authorities continue to be a point of contention and debate among political analysts, electoral observers, and the general populace, highlighting the critical need for transparency and accountability in electoral administration.

Exposing Belly Politicians

12 February 2024

By Zaka Villager

The rampant corruption and self-serving agendas within the opposition have caused immense damage.

It’s distressing to see the supposed champions of democracy fail to combat corruption, greed, and power struggles.

Despite advocating for change, some opportunistic politicians continue to prioritize personal gain over serving the people.

Communities like Namibia district and others abroad have made significant sacrifices, morally, materially, and financially, in support of the national democratic revolution led by President Advocate Nelson Chamisa.

Despite facing challenges like the Khupe and Mwonzora sagas sponsored by ZANU-PF, the formation of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in January 2022 initially seemed like a step forward in combating infiltration.

However, opportunists persisted. The journey to the chaotic elections on August 23rd and 24th, 2023, was arduous for Namibia district and diaspora communities worldwide.

We had to forge partnerships between financially strained rural and urban constituencies globally to bring change to Zimbabwe.

Diaspora citizens contributed materials and funds to the cause, as greedy politicians exploited loopholes like the Corona Judgment and the Political Finances Act.

Namibia district supported election activities in Uzumba, with dedicated individuals like Elisha Chambara and Tapiwa ‘Tapshinda’ Mugore providing on-the-ground support. Such sacrifices are rare among seasoned politicians.

Rundu Branch, led by Dr. Simbarashe Ndoda, Dr. Lawrence Chiduku, Robson Ruhanya, and Youth Commander Ropafadzo Tsara, operated in Hwange West Constituency, facing challenges like deploying polling agents and ensuring their well-being.

Despite hardships, we remained committed, even battling wildlife in Katombora National Park to defend the vote.

It’s heartbreaking that the organic party is now history despite our efforts.

Namibia district condemns stomach politicians like Welshman Ncube, Tendai Biti, Charlton Hwende, Jacob Mafume, and their allies for promoting self-interest over the people’s welfare. Their actions perpetuate the suffering of our impoverished masses.

Genuine leadership is needed to break free from this cycle.Tendai Biti’s betrayal after decades in parliament is particularly egregious.

Selling out for personal gain is a betrayal of the people’s trust and a testament to political greed.

President Chamisa must ensure that future leadership is thoroughly vetted to prevent such betrayals.

ZANU-PF’s tactics, including illegal recalls of elected officials, aim to destabilize the opposition.

We demand servant leadership in the new movement and reject politicians like Biti, Ncube, Mafume, and their cohorts, who have betrayed our struggle.

Receiving support from the diaspora reflects a shared desire for a better Zimbabwe under President Chamisa’s leadership.

Political greed and corruption must be condemned, and leaders like Biti should respect the will of the people.

We mourn the loss of Pastor Tapfumanei Masaya and reject the notion of donating seats to ZANU-PF as an insult to democracy.Genuine leaders in the “New” must reject self-serving politics.

The fight for justice, freedom, and equality should remain untainted by personal agendas.#SellingOutIsNotAnOption

Elephants Crush Eagles

The celebration is on!

In a thrilling final showdown, Sébastien Haller’s late strike propelled host nation Ivory Coast to a stunning Africa Cup of Nations triumph, edging out Nigeria 2-1 on Sunday.

Haller’s decisive goal in the 81st minute, coupled with Franck Kessié’s equalizer in the 62nd, sealed Ivory Coast’s third AFCON title, adding to their previous victories in 1992 and 2015, both clinched via penalty shootouts.

For Haller, his goal marked a personal victory, coming back strong after battling an ankle injury and overcoming cancer treatment just over a year ago.

Nigeria’s William Troost-Ekong had initially surprised Ivory Coast with a 38th-minute header, defying the run of play.

However, the Super Eagles struggled to regain momentum after Haller’s strike, falling short in their efforts to level the score.

Troost-Ekong’s goal echoed his previous performance against Ivory Coast in the group stage, where Nigeria secured a narrow 1-0 victory.

Yet, Ivory Coast’s journey through the tournament was marked by resilience, overcoming early setbacks and managerial changes.

Notably, they staged dramatic comebacks against Senegal and Mali in the knockout rounds, with Haller’s semifinal heroics securing their spot in the final.

The Elephants’ improbable run through the tournament captivated the hearts of many Ivorians, who saw it as a testament to divine favor.

Hwende Exposed For Trying To Tarnish Chamisa

By Political Reporter- Kuwadzana East Member of Parliament (MP) Chalton Hwende has been exposed by the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) for lying that Nelson Chamisa, the party’s former President, fired the communication team responsible for managing the party’s social media accounts.

A post by Hwende alleged that the CCC’s social media accounts were now being operated by individuals who were fired by Chamisa but had refused to hand over the passwords. He said:

The CCC X handle is now being operated by people who were fired by the President (Chamisa) but refused to hand over the passwords. We will now start talking!!

However, the CCC, through their Twitter account, denied the allegations. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the party aid:

Dear Hon @hwendec

We would like to clarify some information that appears to be misleading. President @nelsonchamisa did not fire anyone in the communication department, including those who manage the social media platforms. The team will continue to fulfill their duties as instructed. Thank you

The dispute over the control of the party comes after Chamisa resigned from the CCC on January 24, 2024. Since then, different factions within the party have been contesting for power, each claiming to be in touch with Chamisa. Promise Mkwananzi, the party’s spokesperson, expressed his intention to bring Chamisa back into the party.

On the other hand, Hwende stated that he maintains regular contact with Chamisa and that the former Minister of Information Communication Technology (ICT) has not yet revealed his future plans. Chamisa who resigned from CCC citing infiltration and hijacking by the ruling ZANU PF party and its allies within the CCC, has hinted at the possibility of forming a political movement rather than a political party. Now, some individuals claim that the movement is called “The Blue Movement”, but Hwende said Chamisa was not part of the said movement. He said:

The President (Chamisa) said he will communicate his way forward. A lot of people who were imposing candidates, imposing mayors and deputy Mayors and lying abusing the President’s name are now championing the so-called blue movement. Let’s leave the President to rest and decide on the new step like he said.

The conflicting statements and power struggles within the CCC highlight the internal divisions and uncertainties surrounding the party’s direction following Chamisa’s departure. Name-dropping has been the order of the day as factions wrestle for power.

Indeed, Sunday marked a significant moment in Bulawayo’s history as Nelson Chamisa painted the city blue with his message of hope, unity, and progress. Asbonge bantu bakithi, indeed.

Komichi Infiltrates Sikhala

By Political Reporter- Former MDC-T deputy chairman who has a history of destroying genuine democratic projects, Morgen Komichi has infiltrated Job Sikhala’s broad-based mass democratic movement.

Critics argue that this association has diluted the momentum Sikhala initially gained upon his release in January 2

Sikhala, renowned for his role in launching the MDC-99 party, unveiled his new political initiative during a press conference in Harare on February 8, 2024.

Emphasizing inclusivity, he called for the involvement of various societal sectors, such as civic organizations, students, and the church, in the struggle for mass democracy.

Sikhala distanced himself from the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and expressed his intention to address the perceived shortcomings of the MDC.

However, the inclusion of Morgen Komichi in Sikhala’s political venture has stirred criticism.

Some individuals believe that Komichi’s involvement undermines Sikhala’s credibility and support, potentially jeopardizing the success of the movement.

Costa Nkomo, a journalist, questioned the motives behind their alliance, suggesting hidden political agendas that might lead to Sikhala’s failure.

Similarly, Brighton Mutebuka, a UK-based Zimbabwean lawyer, expressed concerns about Komichi’s perceived political bankruptcy negatively impacting Sikhala’s reputation and popularity. Mutebuka argued that Sikhala’s association with Komichi could only deplete his political capital, describing Komichi’s political gospel as hollow and emphasizing the potential risks of aligning with someone who has fallen out of political favor.
Critics underscored Komichi’s past actions, particularly his involvement in undermining Nelson Chamisa’s faction, as a stain on his reputation. They argue that Sikhala should have been more cautious in selecting political allies to avoid potential risks associated with Komichi’s controversial political history.
On the other hand, supporters of Sikhala defend the association, attributing it to personal choice rather than political alignment. They argue that Sikhala’s long-standing friendship with Komichi might have influenced his decision and should not overshadow Sikhala’s past achievements and contributions to the opposition movement in Zimbabwe.
As opinions on Sikhala’s new political project continue to diverge, the alliance with Morgen Komichi remains a focal point of debate, with both critics and supporters closely watching the developments of this unconventional political partnership.

Mnangagwa Minister In Court For Stealing Seeds

By- The fraud trial of former Deputy Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Douglas Karoro and GMB Mushumbi Pools depot assistant manager Lovejoy Ngowe commenced today with GMB regional enterprise risk officer on the witness stand.
Karoro and Ngowe allegedly misappropriated agricultural inputs under the Presidential Inputs Scheme worth US$43 000 in March last year meant to benefit farmers in the Mbire constituency.
While giving evidence, the regional enterprise risk officer Norman Severa said the trucks which were being used by the pair to carry the consignments were not contracted by GMB which was against the company’s procedure.
Mr Severa told the court that he didn’t know where the consignments were going.
He added that there are no records on the beneficiary lists to indicate how they were distributed.
The matter was deferred to March 11, for trial continuation.
Karoro allegedly collected seed from Ngowe on several occasions using his cars and having the seed marked on the dispatch vouchers as for the needy in the constituency.
The two allegedly converted the seed to their own use.
Ngowe was allegedly found in possession of 10x2kg Seedco SC301 maize seed and 10x5kg Seedco SC513 maize seed in his house at GMB Mushumbi pools.
GMB is said to have lost US$18 030 worth of maize seed in the process.
Again in March 2022, Karoro and Ngowe allegedly met at Mahuwe Shopping Centre in Mushumbi Pools to grab vegetable seed kits.
On March 23, 2022, Karoro allegedly received 5 000 vegetable combo kits comprising seed for rape, onion, texas grano and carrots nantes from Valley Seed Private Limited.
He was supposed to hand them over to the GMB Mushumbi depot under the Presidential Inputs Programme.
Karoro and Ngowe allegedly failed to deliver the vegetable combo kits to GMB Mushumbi Pools and converted them to their use, with Ngowe ordering subordinate staff to enter fraudulent details into the records.
GMB lost another US$25 000 worth of seed in the process, according to the State.-Herald

Hwende Attacks Chamisa

By Political Reporter- The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has exposed Kuwadzana East Member of Parliament (MP) Chalton Hwende for lying that Nelson Chamisa, the party’s former President, fired the communication team responsible for managing the party’s social media accounts.

Ivory Coast Clinch AFCON Victory In Dramatic Style

Explosive: Malaba Urged To Resign Amid Corruption Allegations

The Chairperson

HARARE

Dear Honourable Chief Justice of Republic of Zimbabwe

RE: FAILURE TO ACT ON COMPLAINT LETTERS AGAINST HIGH COURT, SUPREME COURT, AND JUDICIAL SERVICE COMMISSION SECRETARY.
On 12th of January 2024, I submitted to you a letter which referred to my letter of 12th January 2023.
In my letter dated 12th January 2023, I detailed my complaint against several judges of the Supreme Court and the High Court. My complaint is detailed in the letters I submitted to you and to the Honourable Minister of Justice Legal and Parliamentary Affairs dated 31May 2022, 28 August 2022, 23rd December 2022, and 6th November 2023. The Honourable Minister advised that all the letters submitted to him were forwarded to you for your consideration and response to the allegations made against the judges.
Regrettably, to date (8 February 2024) I have not received a response to any of my letters. I am alive to your tactics. YOU IGNORE LEGITIMATE COMPLAINTS FROM ME, FROM JSC STAFF, MAGISTRATES, HIGH COURT JUDGES, SUPREME COURT JUDGES AND MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC AS A STRATEGY OF SWEEPING THE ISSUES RAISED UNDER THE CARPET. YOU HOPE THAT THESE ISSUES WILL DIE A NATURAL DEATH THEREBY PROTECTING YOU FROM ACCOUNTABILITY.
I also note with regret that you have resorted to a new tactic of sweeping my legitimate complains under the carpet.
On 6 February 2024 I received a letter from the Secretary Judicial Service Commission. The letter completely avoids issues I raised. I quote part of the
letter, “In light of the clearly defamatory statements, and the abuse of the complaint procedure in the letter to the office of the Chief Justice dated 12 January 2024, and the various letters addressed to the Minister of Justice Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, the office of the Chief Justice is unable to assist you.”
The letter is extremely irrelevant and does not address the issues raised. It is simply a futile attempt to sweep matters raised under the carpet.
In my view, you also resort to this strategy to protect corrupt practices by Judges and the Secretary Judicial Service Commission. You are fully aware that some of the judges and the Secretary Judicial Service Commission are extremely corrupt and operate as a cartel to deny the people of Zimbabwe the Justice they deserve.
I detail below observations made by State Institutions some years back and complaints from your staff, including Magistrates, High Court Judges, Supreme Court Judges, Constitutional Court Judges and members of the public which support my conclusion that you sweep legitimate complaints under the carpet.
This information is in the public domain.
ACTING PROSECUTOR GENERAL CLAIMED PLOT TO KILL HIM BY JUSTICE SYSTEM CAPTURE CARTEL’
November 2, 2018

The Acting Prosecutor General at that time said and I quote “A cartel made up of police officers, lawyers, prosecutors, magistrates and judges working with powerful politicians has corrupted the justice delivery system in Zimbabwe and is prepared to kill to get its way.” He went on further to say that “If you see some of the intelligence that we have in terms of corruption here, it has become a threat to the survival of government because the syndicates now are so powerful, they rival the power of government.” Mr Hodzi told the interview panel which included you Honourable Chief Justice.
LOICE MATANDA MOYO FORMER CHAIRPERSON IN ZACC FLAGGS CORRUPTION IN COURTS REPORTED 3 DECEMBER 2022.
The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) said a study had shown the country‘s judiciary was riddled with corruption, which threatened to undermine the country’s entire justice delivery system. Citing a report by Transparency International Zimbabwe, which identified the court system as a corruption Hotspot, ZACC chairperson Loice Matanda Moyo said hard work being done by the country’s law enforcement agencies, including her agency was being undermined by suspected graft at the courts. The chairperson went on to say that,
“Justice must never be for sale, the day justice is for sale, we are doomed as a country.”
COMPLAINT BY HIGH COURT AND SUPREME COURT JUDGES 26 0CTOBER 2020. RE: UNTENABLE WORKING CONDITIONS WITHIN THE JUDICIARY.
I quote part of what was said by the Honourable judges in their letter
It is now an open secret that the Chief Justice now routinely interferes with the Magistrates and their decisions through the Chief Magistrate’s office.
The promotion without interviews of senior personnel within the JSC means that complains fall on deaf ears.
Judges are therefore now so afraid of their own jobs that they consciously and sub consciously make decisions that they consider safe, even if these do not accord with the law.
Where certain decisions are made which are unpopular with the Chief Justice, parties are directed to appeal with guarantees of success on appeal.
It is also an open secret that no Supreme Court Judgement can be delivered without the Chief Justice approval.
There is also what the Chief Justice calls “Judgment by consensus”, a euphemism for discouraging dissenting judgements. Where the chief justice is approached by a “favoured dissenter”, the dissenting judgement can be converted into the main judgment on instruction from the Chief Justice.
It is an open secret that most of the decisions paraded as JSC decisions are in fact the Chief Justice’s personal decisions which he instructs the Secretary of the JSC to communicate as Commissioners decisions.
There are also many other transactions that have raised eyebrows including the purchase of the Chief Justice’s residence where the owner received much less than the amount requestioned from government.
The deliberately uninvestigated acts of nepotism and sexual harassment. Allegations against senior personnel within the JSC hierarchy remain cause for concern.
PARLIAMENTARY LEGAL COMMITTEE ADVERSE REPORT ON JUDICIAL SERVICE COMMISSION IECMS SYSTEM
The Committee issued an adverse report on SI 153 of 2023 High Court (Amendment) rules 2023. Which introduced the IECMS system saying, in its current form the platform precludes the general public from accessing justice. The PLC noted that the introduction of the system did not consider that the majority of the country’s population lives in rural areas where there is limited or no access to the internet. The implementation of the system is unconstitutional.

COMPLAINT LETTER BY LITIGANT RE THREATS AND HARRASMENT BY JUSTICE BACHI-MUZAVAZI IN CHAMBERS.
On 26 September 2022, the Judicial Service Commission wrote to a litigant advising that her complaint dated 16 September 2022 was placed before the Chief Justice who has indicated that it is now under investigation. You, the Honourable Chief Justice did nothing. You chose to sweep the matter under the carpet. You protected the judge from scrutiny.

STATE OF THE NATION REPORTER APRIL 17, 2020 – CORRUPTION, ABUSE OF OFFICE, SEXUAL HARRASMENT ROCKS JUDICIAL SERVICE COMMISSION
The newspaper reported that massive corruption, nepotism, sexual harassment, and abuse of office have reportedly rocked the Judiciary Services Commission (JSC) under the watch of the country’s law enforcement agents, State of the nation has learnt. The Secretary Judicial Service Commission Mr Chikwanha was alleged to have misused the V.F.C funds which were donated by UNICEF and Save The Children in 2013 in the company of his deputy, Mr Mutevedzi. These allegations were reportedly raised to the ZRP, ZACC, the Prosecutor General and the Chief Justice’s office but no investigations were made. The complains were swept under the carpet. Mr Chikwanha and other leaders in the J.S.C are alleged to have sexually harassed a lot of women in the J.S.C. They demand sex from female members of the organisation. Those who submit to their demands are rewarded with promotions, appointments, and favours to silence them while those who reject them are either demoted, transferred, or suspended.
Another reported complaint from J.S.C. employees stated and I quote, “These 4 guys (meaning your senior employees) are mighty and that explains why even the NPA (National Prosecuting Authority), the ZRP (Zimbabwe Republic Police) or even ZACC ( Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission) have in the past deliberately deterred themselves to proceed against them regardless that there are dossiers with strong evidence linking them to serious allegations of corruption, bribery, abuse of office under hand deals, deliberately infecting subordinates with HIV/AIDS and externalisation of funds etc.”

SHOWBIZ NEWSLETTER DATED 24 OCTOBER 2023 SECRETARY FOR JUSTICE SERVICES COMMISSION WALTER CHIKWANHA ACCUSED OF CORRUPTION AND OFFICE ABUSE.
A whistleblower from within the Judicial Service Commission (J.S.C) has exposed a culture of corruption and abuse of office at the highest levels of the Zimbabwean Judiciary. The insider also claimed that Chikwanha and his assistant Msipa have been engaged in sexual harassment and abuse of female colleagues. The paper also alleged that, the Chief Registrar was appointed to her position due to her relationship with Chief Justice Luke Malaba, rather on merit. It goes on to say that it is well known that she is Chief Justice Luke Malaba’s girlfriend. The insider also accused Malaba and Chikwanha of looting funds earmarked for an online tracking and virtual system for the court.

DAILY MIRROR NEWS DATED 2 January 2024 J.S.C. boss Walter Chikwanha in US$34 million MASSIVE CORRUPTION SCANDAL
Walter Chikwanha, the Secretary of the Judiciary Service Commission (J.S.C) is under fire over claims that he embezzled money worth at least US$34 million and damaged the treasury. Chikwanha is accused of bringing in an online tracking and virtual system platform from Armenia and the shady transaction was completed without following the law and without putting out a tender. The system is believed to be worth less than US$1 million. This means treasury lost US$33 million. With money from the reprehensible sale Chikwanha acquired various properties. One cannot rule out massive externalisation of funds. Funds are then laundered to different countries using a well-known Zimbabwean money launderer. ZiMetro News obtained access to a linked dossier that included the damning accusations and named Chief Justice Luke Malaba who is alleged of providing protection for Chikwanha. The dossier further states that Panashe, Chikwanha son, “has been given an office at J.S.C, a car and he is on salary payroll but not an employee.” Numerous allegations of sexual harassment of subordinate female employees including marriage bombings have been reported against Walter Chikwanha.
ABUSE OF TENDER PROCEDURES
J.S.C employees raised alarm bells regarding failure by Chikwanha to follow the law when awarding tenders. Tenders are awarded in favour of relatives like Martin Chikwanha in disregard of High Court rules which forbid awarding of tenders to anyone with links to staff members. It is conflict of interest.
I) ABUSE OF JUDICIAL AUCTIONS
Hollands Auctions a company owned by Mr Chikwanha’s brother Martin operated on behalf of the Sheriff in Bulawayo and Mutare. Hollands Auctions auctioned attached goods in Chiadzwa Diamond. The amount realised from the auction was US2 million. Holland Auction, Chikwanha and Madega manipulated paperwork and remitted less than US200 000 to the Sheriff’s coffers. Mr Chikwanha also derived material and financial benefits from Drew and Fraser Auctioneers, a company which belongs to him but fronted by a relative Euphrasia Mupedzisi.
Properties sold at judicial offices benefit mostly judicial officers and cronies. One senior judicial officer is alleged to own at least 68 houses acquired through fake manipulated judicial auctions. Several hard-working citizens lose their properties for nothing because of rampant corruption in the judiciary. Victims of fake judicial auctions filed numerous cases of fraud by the Sheriff of the High Court. The cases lie idle at the Anti-Corruption Commission offices.

G) Cancellation of my title deed
I bought my property 41 Ridgeway North Highlands in good faith and for value. The record of proceedings in the High Court shows that none of the parties were able to, rebut that assertion. The Supreme Court of Zimbabwe manufactured numerous lies to justify cancellation of my title deeds for the benefit of a cartel member.
Some of the lies are 1. That there was a caveat registered against the property yet the was no caveat. 2. That the property was auctioned, and Bariadie Investments was the highest bidder. The property was not auctioned. 3. That Justice Chitapi held an unscheduled hearing during which a default judgment was granted in favour of Puwayi Chiutsi. The hearing was scheduled and agreed to by all parties as demonstrated by the record of proceedings. 4. That Bariadie filed an application for leave to appeal against justice Chitapi’s refusal to recuse himself. It is a lie no appeal was filed.
In a futile attempt to disguise the lies and misrepresentations in the judgment the Supreme Court working in cahoots with the Secretary Judicial Services Commission and Bariadie manufactured a bogus complaint letter. Supreme Court researchers were corrupted and probably coerced to collaborate lies that there is a caveat and that the hearing by Justice Chitapi was unscheduled. Known cartel lawyers, Advocate Mapuranga, Advocate Thabani Mpofu and Tendai Biti represented by Diana Kawenda signed false affidavits lying that the Hearing on 20 July 2021 during which the default judgment was granted was unscheduled. Tendai Biti is a convicted criminal. A criminal docket against Biti of inciting public violence on 1st August 2018 was removed from court system and is allegedly being held by the former Permanent Secretary Ministry of Justice.
Gill Godlonton and Gerrans attorneys also played an unholy role in this matter. They served papers on Chiutsi using a wrong address to frustrate disposition of the fake auction matter in the High Court. That strongly implies that they knew that the Supreme Court had already made a pre-determined judgment in favour of their client Bariadie Investments. This is corruption.

SUMMARY OF ALLEGATIONS AND CREDIBILITY
Allegations came from different Institutions, Magistrates, High Court Judges, Supreme Court judges and Judicial Services Commission employees. They independently arrive at the same conclusion. The judiciary under your watch Honourable Chief Justice is very corrupt. My case confirms the conclusions already made by other independent parties.

Sexual abuse of several female employees by senior J.S.C. staff over several years.
You are aware of the abuse but failed to act presumably because of loyalty to the criminal cartel. In my view you are an accomplice. The victims were subjected to Cruel Inhuman degrading treatment in violation of their rights protected by section 53 of the Constitution.
Relationship with a junior female employee.
If the allegation is true which can easily be verified means that you are not a fit and proper person to Head the Judiciary on moral grounds alone.
Externalisation of funds
This means J.S.C is involved in criminal activities calculated to undermine authority of Government promoting interests of the Cartel which captured the Judiciary. In my opinion it is treasonous.
Corruption, bribery, abuse of office and under hand deals
This is demonstrated by the way procurement and judicial auctions are held. Total disregard of the law to show favour to cartel members.
Justice for sale
Of course, justice is for sale in Zimbabwe. People know it. You failed to act against it hiding behind the veil of Judicial Independence. You deny judicial officers their independence. According to the former ZACC chairperson we are doomed as a country when we reach this stage. I believe you have driven our country to that stage.
FAVOURED DISSENTER
To me it means a polite way by Judges to say you take bribes.

CONCLUSIONS
The Judicial Services Commission has under your leadership failed to respect and fulfil the founding values and principles covered in section 3 of the constitution of the Republic of Zimbabwe. This is the rule of law and principles of good governance which are respect for the people of Zimbabwe, from whom the authority to govern is derived. Transparency, Justice, accountability, and responsiveness.
In order to protect the integrity of the judicial system in Zimbabwe and the interests of the people of Zimbabwe YOU MUST RESIGN AS A MATTER URGENCY. The three Honourable judges of the Supreme Court that is Honourable Deputy Chief Justice Gwaunza, Honourable Justice Guvava and Honourable Justice Bhunu must resign. They brought shame and disgrace to the Judiciary through manufacturing lies which they in cooperated in their judgment. They also abused their offices by compelling young researchers to lie for the benefit of a fraudulent judgment in favour of a cartel member. The two Honourable Justices of the High Court, Katiyo and Chirau-Mugomba and three honourable Justices of the Constitutional Court, Justice Garwe, Justice Hlatshwayo and Justice Patel must be subjected to tribunal Hearings. Apart from what I said in my complaint letters their conduct advanced the agenda of the cartel to deny me justice.

Justice delayed is justice denied!

Yours sincerely

Biti, Hwende Roasted For Betraying People’s Struggle
