Government Fails To Fund Learning Scheme

MASVINGO – Government has not paid fees for all three school terms this year for children catered for under Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM) thereby creating a serious financial crisis that has crippled the day to day running of schools, The Mirror has been told.

Government also owes schools for one term in 2022 and 2021 each, sources have said.

Schools in disadvantaged areas are as a result doing without basic requirements like chalks, exercise books and teachers and school heads cannot attend crucial meetings outside the school where transport is required, said sources. In many cases teachers have to use money from their meager salaries, said sources.

Government introduced BEAM in 2001 to provide school fees, examination fees, levies and building assistance for pupils whose parents and guardians cannot afford.

The situation got worse this year when BEAM appeared politicized with more children being brought under the assistance programme ahead of the harmonized elections leaving schools with a few children who paid on their own.

Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education spokesperson, Taungana Ndoro however, told The Mirror that the Minister was aware of the problem and he is currently talking to the Ministry of Finance and Public Service. He said it was not true that Government has not paid for five terms.

“The Minister is aware of the problems and he is currently engaging with the Minister of Finance and the Minister Public Service. Every school receives its payment. No school has gone for five terms without fees payment. The Minister is looking at the problem,” said Ndoro.

Schools are allocated a number of children that they can put on the BEAM programme and the most deserving ones are chosen. Schools that spoke to The Mirror said the numbers can be up to 30% while this year because of elections the figures rose to almost 100% in some schools.

The other problem is that BEAM is paid in RTGS and this is … www.masvingomirror.com

Harare Resident In “Witchcraft” Storm

A 31-year-old year-old woman from Borrowdale Surbub in Harare has been dragged to court after accusing a banker of engaging in acts of witchcraft.

In a case of outrage gone wrong, a resident of Borrowdale could regret the day her tongue accused a local banker of engaging in acts of witchcraft , after she was hauled before the courts this Saturday.

Leoba Hunda is in the dock for allegedly calling 30-year-old Vimbai Princess Chidaushe of Borrowdale a witch, accusing her of killing her baby.

The court gallery was left in shock , when it emerged that on the 19th of this month, Chidaushe received a text message on her mobile phone from Hunda with the scathing attack.

This did not go down well with Chidaushe who filed a police report leading to the accused’s arrest.

In her initial court appearance this Saturday the accused was freed on US$50 bail and she will be back in court on the 15th of next month.

ZIFA Appoints New CEO

THE Zimbabwe Football Association Normalisation Committee has appointed Yvonne Mapika Manwa as the new chief executive officer effective 1 November.

Manwa is currently the Ngezi Platinum Stars CEO and will take over the role which was left vacant following the expiration of Joseph Mamutse’s contract in August.

The local football mother body has been without a substantive CEO ever since the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) suspended Joseph Mamutse in 2021.

Although he was later reinstated, he never resumed his duties as he got entangled in the boardroom battles between the Felton Kamambo-led board and the sports regulator.

Yvonne Manwa will be responsible for leading the Zimbabwe Football Association secretariat into its next phase under the Normalisation Committee.

Mnangagwa Continues To Haunt Matabeleland Residents

Section 59 of the Zimbabwean constitution grants every citizen the right to peacefully demonstrate and present petitions. Protesting or demonstrating in a democracy is not a crime.

The people of the Matabeleland have experienced an ongoing, systematic, and deliberate attack by the Harare regime, which includes the recent illegal recalls of their elected officials. Yet, once again, these individuals have been denied their rights to demonstrate and present their petition to the Minister of State and Devolution concerning the illegal recalls. Why does the Harare regime persist in persecuting, isolating, and harassing the people of Matabeleland?

Mnangagwa Dumps War Veterans

By- Former liberation war combatants said they were living in poverty more than they used to when the late Robert Mugabe was in charge.

The New War veterans’ leader, Andrease Mathibela says their welfare deteriorated under Emerson Mnangagwa rule.

Mathibela pledged to engage President Emmerson Mnangagwa on this issue. Mathibela criticised how the sacrifices made during Zimbabwe’s war for liberation were being disrespected, with only a few benefiting from the country’s wealth. He made these remarks while addressing former freedom fighters who lost their land in the Emmergroon estate, which was divided and allocated to ZANU PF’s youths. NewZimbabwe quotes him as saying:

The two main reasons why we went to war was to attain both political and economic freedoms. As war veterans, we are no longer respected. Our lives our now worse and at times you really ask yourself why you went to war?

The wealth of this country is being enjoyed by only a few people.

Our wish is to have farms with title deeds. War Veterans should not be villagers who stay in areas that were reserved for black people during the colonial era.

If they want to stay there, let it be by choice. We want all war veterans to at least own an A2 farm. We are planning to engage Mnangagwa over our welfare.

Mathibela said he had started a fact-finding mission to understand the cause of the conflict.

In 2001, the government assigned wildlife conservancies in the Emmergroon estate located along the Bulawayo – Victoria Falls highway to A1 farmers, including war veterans. These farmers were also given communal land for cattle grazing and smallholder farming. However, a dispute within the ruling party led to the allocation of the 140 plots to the youths by ZANU PF Provincial Chairperson Richard Moyo, who is also the Minister of State for Matabeleland North.

Tshabangu Insults Chamisa

By- CCC rebel and party’s self-declared Interim Secretary General of the Sengezo Tshabangu, has boasted that the 14 CCC MPs he recalled and are challenging their recalls would not win the case.

CITE reported that the Nelson Chamisa-led party is neither an applicant nor a respondent in the application filed by 14 of the recalled MPs who challenged their recalls in the High Court.

The applicants cited Tshabangu, who recalled them, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Jacob Mudenda, and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) as respondents.

In his notice of opposition, Tshabangu said since the recalled MPs’ application suggests he is an imposter, they should have included the CCC political party or “at the very least” cite it as an accompanying co-applicant. He said:

The failure to cite the political party that has the responsibility to recall makes this application a non-starter and fatally defective and it ought to be dismissed.

Tshabangu argued that the recalled MPs’ application for declaratory relief is a disguised application for review of the Speaker’s decision to recall them including his office.

He said the recalled MPs are attempting to overturn the Speaker’s decision to recall them, “which cannot be reviewed at law.”

On the applicants’ claim that he is not a member of CCC, Tshabangu said:

The applicants have alleged the following: They have alleged that I am not a member of CCC but failed to attach the constitution or any other documents that speak to or prove whether I am a member or not and whether they are members or not.

By the same token, they have not attached the relevant documents showing that I am not the interim secretary general and whether or not this position exists or not.

Further, they have not attached their membership cards, or membership registers nor proffered any explanation for the absence of those.

In the absence of such, their pleadings fail to prove their case. This becomes a classic dispute of facts that cannot be resolved on the papers and should have been clearly foreseen by the applicants.

Tshabangu claimed he was “appointed along with others as a designated officer, and attaches documentation as ‘Annexure ST2’ to show that.”

He said the recalled MPs rely on letters allegedly authored by CCC President Nelson Chamisa purportedly representing the CCC, describing the letters as “hearsay evidence which is inadmissible as affidavits.”

Tshabangu argues, therefore, that the relief sought by the recalled MPs is “incompetent”. He said:

The relief sought fails to set aside the actions of the Party but rather seeks to set aside my actions, which actions and authority were derived from the Party.

In terms of Section 129(k) it is the party and only the party that can recall.

Without an order setting aside the actions of the Party or interdicting the Party an interdict against me or the Speaker and ZEC is incompetent and even if granted would be of no effect.

Leaked WhatsApp Bedroom Audio Pastor Wasn’t Even Under Investigation

The Methodist pastor whose intimate bedroom conversation was leaked into a church WhatsApp group was not even under investigation when he tragically took his own life.

The leaked audio conversation, which contained explicit details about a condom with blood, set off a chain of events that led to the suicide of Reverend Oscar Mukahanana, the leader of the Harare East District within the United Methodist Church.

The leaked recordings featured Reverend Mukahanana engaging in a private conversation with his lover, discussing the presence of blood on a condom. He inquired about her menstrual cycle, which was set to begin the following day.

In response to the leaked conversation, Reverend Mukahanana purchased a Kambucha drink, mixed it with rat poison, and consumed it at a lodge in Harare. This tragic act followed the exposure of his intimate conversation with a church congregant identified only as Wadzanai, after they had engaged in a sexual relationship.

Reverend Mukahanana, a highly respected and married father, had been considered a key figure in the church. The revelation of his involvement in these activities has left the church community in shock.

A source within the church expressed their disbelief, stating, “He was a very respected man and a pillar of the church. It’s hard to believe that he was involved in such activities, and this has come as a shock to everyone.”

On the day of the tragic incident, Reverend Mukahanana surrendered the church vehicle, booked a room at a lodge, wrote a suicide note, and took his own life as he grappled with the fallout and humiliation resulting from the leaked audio and his involvement with a church member.

His lifeless body was discovered in a room at a lodge in Eastlea, accompanied by a suicide note. Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case as a suspected suicide and reported the discovery of a plastic bottle containing a soft drink mixed with rat poison at the scene.

Crucially, it has been disclosed that there were no formal reports or investigations against Reverend Mukahanana at the time of his death. The leak of the intimate audio, a recording inadvertently made while caressing Wadzanai, remains a mystery in terms of how it found its way to a church WhatsApp group.

Reverend Mukahanana, known for his teachings against adultery and his strong emphasis on encouraging youth to abstain from fornication, left a poignant suicidal note. In the note, he apologized to his wife, family, and the church, urging his wife to care for their children and expressing gratitude to the church for its support. This tragic incident has cast a dark shadow over the church community, leaving many searching for answers and grappling with the loss of a respected leader.- State Media/H Metro/ Additional

Did Mohadi Anger The gods With His Anti-Progressive Speech In Gutu West

The ruling Zanu PF will not go into a Government of National Unity (GNU) with the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) until the opposition party puts its house in order, Vice-President Kembo Mohadi has said.

Mohadi made the remarks while addressing hundreds of party supporters in Gutu West constituency while canvassing for support for its candidate John Paradza ahead of a November 11 by-election.

He said the CCC was in disarray.

“The Citizens Coalitions for Change is in pieces and Zanu PF we are a solid party and we have a vision unlike the opposition, so there is no Government of National Unity and we can’t bring into the government of national unity a party which is in tatters,” Mohadi said.

“As a party we have projects which we are doing and we can’t afford to join hands with Citizens Coalition for Change, we want to do our own projects alone.

“Our elections were free and fair and there was no violence in our elections, there were people on holiday with machines and wanted to announce election results before the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission announced the results.”

He said going into a GNU with the opposition parties was a history that will not be repeated.

Zanu PF was forced into a GNU in 2009 following the 2008 disputed election. The late Movement for Democratic Change leader Morgan Tsvangirai pulled out of a poll re-run after no clear winner was declared between him and the late former President Robert Mugabe.

Tsvangirai was appointed prime minister in the 2009 to 2013 GNU that was led by the now late Mugabe.

Despite the GNU, the ruling Zanu PF maintained strategic positions in various ministries.

Meanwhile, Mohadi’s speech in Gutu West was overshadowed by his collapse while addressing party supporters. He was whisked away to an unknown destination with party officials saying he was diabetic.

Zim Journalist Had Her Parly Accreditation Shredded Into Pieces For Asking South Korea’s Views On Mudenda’s Illegality

BY A CORRESPONDENT
A Zimbabwean journalist had her parliamentary accreditation shredded into pieces and banned from covering sittings after she asked a South Korean Ambassador to Zimbabwe Park Jae-Kyung her position on the recall of opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislators by Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda.

Park Jae-Kyung had paid a courtesy call to Mudenda at his office.

According to sources, the journalist Anna Chibhamu who writes for NewZimbabwe.com asked Jae-Kyung on South Korea’s position with regards to the recall of opposition CCC legislators by one Sengezo Tshabangu.

“She asked the South Korean Ambassador about his views on the political situation in Zimbabwe and the recent recall of opposition legislators by Tshabangu and this did not go down well with Mudenda.

“She had her parliamentary accreditation torn into pieces in front of other journalists and told never to cover parliament again.
“She was also removed from the parliamentary journalists WhatsApp group,” the source told ZimEye.

Opposition legislators have accused Mudenda of abusing his position by accepting a letter written by Tshabangu who claimed to be the Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change while ignoring several correspondences from party leader Nelson Chamisa.
Mudenda has also come under fire over his recent decision to bar CCC legislators from parliament for six sittings and withdrawing their allowances and fuel coupons.

Mnangagwa Shamelessly Arrives At the Procurement Gig With Own Son

By Bruce Huruva | In the pictures below Emmerson Mnangagwa’s controversial involvement in the Procurement Regulatory Authority has ignited a firestorm of criticism. Mnangagwa’s appearance at the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe’s 3rd Annual Public Procurement Conference, accompanied by his son, David Mnangagwa, who recently assumed the role of virtual Finance and Economic Minister, has raised alarming questions about nepotism and transparency.

What is particularly striking is not only the appointment of David Mnangagwa but also the President’s personal takeover of the Procurement Regulatory Authority. This consolidation of authority, coupled with legal changes that grant him absolute control over the procurement process in Zimbabwe, has sent shockwaves through the nation.

The timing couldn’t be more troubling, as allegations of questionable tender awards under Mnangagwa’s leadership continue to emerge. One prominent case that has come to light is the awarding of tenders to convicted fraudster Wicknell Chivayo, casting a shadow of doubt over the integrity of the procurement system.

As images circulate of President Mnangagwa’s arrival at the Harare International Conference Centre for the Procurement Regulatory Authority’s conference, the public is left to grapple with the implications of these developments. The conference itself carries the theme, “Service Delivery through Innovative Solutions,” a theme that stands in stark contrast to the concerns surrounding the President’s and his son’s involvement.

Critics argue that these actions by the President and his family members in government raise serious ethical and governance questions. Transparency and accountability in procurement decisions are now under intense scrutiny, prompting a wave of demands for reforms and accountability in government practices. The scandal has triggered a public outcry and intensified calls for responsible and ethical governance in Zimbabwe.

Breaking- Zimbabweans Unite with Palestinians in Mass Demonstration Against Mnangagwa and Other Murderers

By Dorrothy Moyo | In a powerful display of solidarity against military crackdowns, Zimbabweans are set to join Palestinians in a mass demonstration tomorrow, October 24, 2023, denouncing the leadership of Emmerson Mnangagwa and various other people.

The protest, coinciding with worldwide condemnation of the atrocities in Gaza, will see Zimbabweans taking to the streets to voice their concerns over the state of their own country. Many have drawn parallels between the suffering of Palestinians and the challenges facing Zimbabwe.

The rural teachers union, ARTUZ, urged the public to participate, stating, “Join the Zimbabwe Palestine march scheduled for tomorrow. The march will commence at 11:00 AM from Ashbrittle Shops, located at the corner of Golden Stairs and The Chase. Organizers will distribute Palestinian flags to demonstrate unity.”

This historic demonstration signifies the resilience and unity of people around the world, emphasizing the need for change and justice, both in Zimbabwe and beyond.

FAZ Leader’s Family Struck By Lightning Just After Rigging Elections for Mnangagwa

THE FOREVER Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ) leader Kudakwashe Munsaka has suffered a tragic loss as three of his close relatives were struck by lightning during heavy rains last Tuesday in Binga, Matabeleland North. The incident occurred just two months after a violent election marked by alleged vote rigging and widespread violence, in which FAZ was reportedly involved.

FAZ, an affiliate group of Zanu PF with purported links to the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO), gained prominence during the controversial August 23 and 24 harmonized elections, where it was accused of being at the center of alleged election malpractice.

The recent heavy rains and strong winds wreaked havoc across the country, causing damage to infrastructure and displacing families. The Civil Protection Unit launched an appeal for donations to aid those affected by the disaster.

In the tragic incident in Binga, lightning struck a thatched hut, claiming the lives of Kudakwashe Munsaka’s aunt, Belitha Munkuli (79), and her two grandchildren, Meekness Munkuli (11) and Accept Bulemu (5), as well as a neighbor, Rudo Muzamba. Despite attempts to rescue them, the locked door prevented their escape, bringing the death toll to four.

This unfortunate event has left the Binga community in shock, and Munsaka expressed the family’s pain and noted that he had provided coffins and food for the mourners.

The leader of FAZ, which played a prominent role in the disputed elections, has faced accusations of wrongdoing, including intimidating suspected opposition supporters. It has been seen as a parallel structure within Zanu PF, believed to be controlled by the CIO, according to insiders in the party.

Zimbabwe, being one of the world’s most lightning-prone countries, often witnesses lightning-related fatalities and injuries, primarily in rural areas. The tragic incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by the nation amidst political tensions and natural disasters.- Agencies

Skipping The GoldMafia, NPA Says It’s Now Arresting Money Launderers

NPA’s Money Laundering Prosecutions Raise Questions Amidst Scandals.

By Agencies -The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has claimed to be prosecuting money laundering offenses involving 100 individuals suspected of acquiring assets worth US$70 million through illicit financial dealings. This announcement follows a wave of skepticism, with the NPA’s credibility called into question due to recent events, including the GoldMafia scandal.

The suspicious claims were detailed in a government media report, stating that the NPA has initiated the process of confiscating the wealth of these individuals. This announcement coincides with Zimbabwe’s assumption of the presidency of the Asset Recovery Inter-Agency Network of Southern Africa (ARINSA), with the aim of enhancing the country’s ability to trace, freeze, and forfeit the proceeds of criminal activities.

NPA spokesperson Ms. Angeline Munyeriwa explained, “The NPA has been making and continues to make applications for unexplained wealth orders.” Currently, the NPA is handling 30 cases with assets involving US$20 million pending further investigation. Furthermore, they have filed 12 court applications for the forfeiture of assets valued at US$15.5 million.

Additionally, the NPA is pursuing 21 asset forfeiture cases, with the expectation of seizing properties worth US$10.8 million through the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU). They are also in the process of requesting international cooperation for the recovery of assets worth US$2.7 million, as well as investigating properties valued at US$3 million.

Ms. Munyeriwa noted that the NPA is currently handling 25 cases with preservation court orders for assets worth US$9.3 million. These preservation orders legally instruct individuals under investigation not to destroy property or alter any documents pertinent to the investigation.

Moreover, there are ongoing legal battles, including five appeals against forfeiture orders worth US$1.4 million and two appeals against the reinstatement of warrants of arrest at the Supreme Court. There is another pending application for the declaration of constitutional invalidity of the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Civil Forfeiture Provisions, involving assets valued at US$250,000.

The Prosecutor-General has also filed an appeal against the release of exhibits worth US$300,000 at the High Court. In addition, there are ten interlocutory applications by defendants against preservation orders in the High Court, involving assets valued at US$4.7 million.

The NPA’s announcements have raised concerns about the effectiveness and transparency of their actions, particularly in light of recent scandals, such as the GoldMafia case, where bank accounts were swiftly unfrozen. The public and legal experts are closely scrutinizing these developments, which may have far-reaching implications for the fight against money laundering and asset recovery.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s assumption of the presidency of ARINSA has placed the country in a position of leadership. Over the next two years, Zimbabwe, through the NPA, is expected to work closely with other steering committee members in overseeing the administration of the network and setting annual priorities. This includes representing and promoting the network at various international events.

The presidency of ARINSA is a significant responsibility for Zimbabwe, with promises to uphold the agency’s objectives and push for effective collaboration among member states in the fight against cross-border financial crimes. However, the current cloud of skepticism surrounding the NPA’s actions will likely cast a shadow over the country’s new leadership role in this crucial area of law enforcement.

Mnangagwa’s Power Slips Away Amid CCC Recalls

By Farai D Hove | Emmerson Mnangagwa, the leader of the ZANU PF party and the assumed President of Zimbabwe, is facing a severe erosion of his political power as a result of the recalls of CCC (Citizens’ Coalition for Change) legislators. These recalls have effectively begun to strip him of his authority, prompting concerns about his legitimacy.

The seat of any government’s public respect and authority is its parliament, and the recalls of CCC legislators have proven detrimental to Mnangagwa’s grip on power. The controversial 2023 elections, marred by allegations of rigging, cast a shadow over his presidency. The subsequent recalls of CCC members from parliament further underline the fragility of his position.

Despite claims published by Mnangagwa’s media, celebrating his leadership and proclamations of by-election dates, there is growing skepticism about the motives behind these actions. Mr. George Charamba, Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, has defended these proclamations as constitutionally mandated rather than politically motivated. However, the opposition has accused the government of being behind the recalls, casting doubt on the government’s intentions.

Charamba argues that the recalls are triggered by the Speaker of Parliament, following the removal of legislators by their respective parties. Once this process is initiated, the President is bound by the country’s laws and the Constitution to proclaim by-elections within a specific timeframe. Charamba insists that this process is devoid of political discretion.

Furthermore, Charamba emphasizes that Zimbabwe’s laws do not compel the presence of opposition legislators as a constitutional issue. The absence of opposition members is a matter of volition, and continued absenteeism can lead to a legislator being deemed no longer in their position according to Parliament’s Standing Rules and Orders.

The crux of the matter is that participation in the electoral process is voluntary in Zimbabwe, and the government’s laws do not compel anyone to participate, be it as a voter or a candidate. Charamba dismisses the idea that the non-participation of CCC will create a constitutional crisis, asserting that the country’s laws are indifferent to such decisions.

In the event that the CCC decides to boycott the December by-elections, willing political parties will continue to participate, and the winner will be declared, Charamba states.

While Mnangagwa’s camp argues that these actions are a matter of adhering to the constitution, critics view the recalls as a strategic move to undermine the opposition and tighten the President’s grip on power. As the recalls continue, the situation in Zimbabwe remains tense, and the erosion of political legitimacy remains a subject of national concern.

Mnangagwa Admin Says It’s Serious About Stopping Mineral Leakages

Government’s Claim to Curb Mineral Leakages Contradicted as Frozen Accounts Unleashed

In a startling revelation that raises questions about the sincerity of the government’s efforts to combat mineral leakages in Zimbabwe, the authorities have unfrozen the bank accounts of individuals implicated in the GoldMafia investigation. The GoldMafia investigation provided irrefutable evidence, including documented records and live video footage, of rampant smuggling and attempts to obfuscate illegal mining operations within the country.

The government’s contradictory stance was unveiled in a report that emphasized its commitment to implementing measures to curb mineral leakages, which have been draining the nation of substantial foreign currency inflows. Mines and Mining Development Minister Zhemu Soda asserted that the most significant leakages occur in the gold sub-sector, as well as other precious and semi-precious stones, through smuggling and diversion to the informal market.

It is estimated that these leakages cost Zimbabwe billions of United States dollars annually, a staggering economic loss that the nation can ill afford. Particularly alarming are recent reports of smuggling in the gold and lithium sub-sectors, with minerals being illicitly transported to countries like South Africa, Dubai, and China.

Furthermore, there have been reports of semi-precious stones, such as amethyst, aquamarine, and garnet, being illegally extracted by villagers in parts of the country like Hurungwe and Karoi in Mashonaland West Province. These valuable minerals are then sold to unscrupulous dealers who smuggle and export them in raw form, depriving Zimbabwe of potential revenues.

At the 2023 Mid-Term Performance Review and 2024 Strategic Planning Workshop held by the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, Minister Zhemu Soda vowed that the government would continue to take measures to combat mineral leakages. He emphasized the need to capacitate the metallurgy laboratory and enhance gold mobilization exercises to boost gold deliveries to Fidelity Gold Refiners.

Additionally, Minister Soda pledged that the ministry, together with the MMCZ (Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe) and other relevant government departments, would conduct a concerted effort to curb mineral leakages. Minerals constitute over half of Zimbabwe’s export revenue, with gold and platinum alone accounting for half of the total annual export earnings.

Last year, Zimbabwe produced 35.3 tonnes of gold, and this year, stakeholders aim to achieve 40 tonnes. The mining sector plays a crucial role in achieving the goals of Vision 2030, positioning Zimbabwe as an upper-middle-income economy.

To further develop the mining sector, Minister Soda announced plans to create curricula focused on critical minerals and precious stones like gemstones. This initiative aims to cultivate the necessary skills for mineral development, especially in light of the discoveries of lithium, gas, and oil resources within the country.

Moreover, the ministry intends to engage with global bodies to enhance governance within the mining sector, thus improving transparency and accountability.

While the government appears determined to address mineral leakages, the decision to unfreeze the bank accounts of individuals implicated in the GoldMafia investigation casts doubt on the sincerity of these efforts. The contradiction raises concerns about whether Zimbabwe can effectively combat the illicit trade in precious minerals that is depriving the nation of substantial revenues.- Agencies/State Media

Leaked Recording- Hopewell Chin’ono Saying Chamisa Doesn’t Care About Sikhala

The below audio recording is of the controversial activist Hopewell Chin’ono screaming out while walking away from legend singer Thomas Mapfumo’s photoshoot in Leicester, UK.

Chin’ono in the audio accuses CCC leader Nelson Chamisa of neglecting the jailed legislator, Job Sikhala, saying he was wasting time tweeting while Job Sikhala was suffering in prison. He says Chamisa seems more concerned over a Kariba rally that of Sikhala’s plight.

He accuses Chamisa of sending him pictures of his (Chamisa’s) rally.

“He sent me, I don’t tweet things like that,” says Chin’ono.

The former legislator, Tafadzwa Musekiwa then answers back asking if the rally “is the Kariba one,” to which Chin’ono blows back saying,

“I was being tweeted to and would just ignore; everything I was getting tweeted and would just ignore. There is someone who is in prison [and he’s doing this],” he says in the clip recorded in July 2022, comments which Zimbabweans have re opened as they connect them to the allegation that Nelson Chamisa’s party is going to split because according to him (Chin’ono) the CCC leader is incompetent.

Since last year Chinono has continued berating Chamisa saying he focuses too much on citing Bible verses.

Last week he continued on the same screamer.

The CCC President has to date chosen to ignore the commentator.

Invictus Energy Responds to Oil Discovery Controversy

By Business Reporter | In a turn of events, the Australian energy exploration company, Invictus Energy, has responded to recent reports surrounding their quest to confirm an oil discovery in northern Zimbabwe. The company issued a statement refuting the claims made in an earlier story and shedding light on the current status of their drilling operations.

Invictus Energy emphasized that the initial story was “highly premature and incorrect.” According to the company’s official statement, they are still actively drilling towards their target depth of 3,750 meters at the Mukuyu-2 site in the Mbire district, Mashonaland Central province.

The company clarified that their ongoing drilling operation is part of their efforts to obtain crucial data and confirm the existence of a viable petroleum system. They also mentioned their intent to retrieve a fluid sample via wireline, which can only be done once the drilling process has been completed.

Invictus Energy expressed optimism regarding the data they have collected so far, highlighting the presence of background gas at Mukuyu-2 exceeding that observed at Mukuyu-1. They have also detected heavier hydrocarbons, which further support the existence of an active petroleum system in the Cabora Bassa Basin.

The company’s Mukuyu conventional gas-condensate prospect is considered one of the largest undrilled onshore prospects in Africa, with estimated reserves of over 20 trillion cubic feet and 845 million barrels on a gross mean unrisked basis.

The failure to recover a fluid sample during their previous drilling attempt represents a significant setback for Invictus Energy. The company acknowledges the importance of this procedure in confirming a commercial discovery, which could have far-reaching implications for Zimbabwe’s energy landscape and economy.

In light of these developments, Invictus Energy is expected to regroup and explore alternative approaches to provide the necessary evidence for their groundbreaking findings in the pursuit of energy security and economic growth.

The potential commercial discovery of oil and gas in Zimbabwe remains a topic of significant interest, as it could address the nation’s power shortages, create jobs, stimulate new industries, and boost export revenues, as previously highlighted by President Mnangagwa.

Invictus Energy’s response underscores the importance of patience and thorough exploration in the process of confirming such a significant discovery. The company will continue its efforts to bring about positive change in Zimbabwe’s energy sector.

Please note that this is an evolving story, and further updates may follow as the situation develops.

Mine accident claims 4

By A Correspondent- On Friday, tragedy struck at Kangela Mine in Mashonaland West as four miners lost their lives due to a mine shaft collapse.

The police have officially confirmed the incident and reported that the bodies of the victims have already been recovered.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) released a statement regarding the incident, stating, “The ZRP confirms a mining accident that occurred at Kangela Mine, specifically in the D Troop area of Chikuti, Murereka, on October 20, 2023. Four individuals tragically lost their lives when the mine shaft they were working in collapsed. Local villagers played a crucial role in retrieving the bodies from the shaft, and they were subsequently transported to the Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations.”

This unfortunate incident follows closely on the heels of another mining accident, which occurred less than a month ago. In that incident, 10 illegal miners lost their lives when a shaft collapsed at the Bay Horse, a disused gold mine near Chegutu town.

Mine accidents are regrettably commonplace in Zimbabwe, as numerous individuals, often young men, put their lives at risk by delving into deep tunnels in search of valuable minerals. Many of these mining operations are conducted without proper authorization and employ basic tools like picks and shovels.

In the past, authorities have conducted raids to address these illegal mining activities. However, the Zanu PF-led government, recognizing the potential for revenue and political support from such activities, subsequently elevated these miners to the status of artisanal miners. Unfortunately, many continue to lose their lives without any compensation mechanisms in place.

Tshabangu tears CCC MPs appeal

By A Correspondent- Sengezo Tshabangu, the self-styled Interim Secretary of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has torn apart a court appeal filed by CCC MPs who are challenging their recall, claiming their request is ineffective without naming the political party they represent.

The CCC party is neither an applicant nor a respondent in the application filed by 14 of the recalled MPs who challenged their recalls in the High Court, citing Tshabangu, the Speaker of the National Assembly – Jacob Mudenda, and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) as respondents.

So far, Tshabangu has recalled 15 MPs, nine senators and 17 councillors.

Tshabangu stated since the recalled MPs’ application suggests he is an imposter, he expected them to include the CCC political party or “at the very least” cite it as an accompanying co-applicant.

“The failure to cite the political party that has the responsibility to recall makes this application a non-starter and fatally defective and it ought to be dismissed,” read Tshabangu’s notice of opposition as he argued points in limine.

In his notice of opposition, Tshabangu said the recalled MPs’ application for declaratory relief is a disguised application for review of the Speaker’s decision to recall them including his office.

Tshabangu claims the recalled MPs are attempting to overturn the Speaker’s decision to recall them, “which cannot be reviewed at law.”

He noted the recalled MPs alleged he is not a member of CCC but “failed to attach the Constitution or any other documents that speaks to, or proves whether I am a member or not and whether they are members or not.”

“By the same token, they have not attached the relevant documents – showing that I am not the interim Secretary General and whether or not these positions exist or not. Further, they have not attached their membership cards, membership registers nor proffered any explanation for the absence of those,” Tshabangu said.

In the absence of such, Tshabangu stated the recalled MPs “fail to prove their case, more so, this becomes a classic dispute of facts which cannot be resolved from the papers and should have been clearly foreseen by the applicants.”

Tshabangu, however, claims that he was “appointed along with others as a designated officer, and attaches documentation as ‘Annexure ST2’ to show that.

He said the recalled MPs rely on letters allegedly authored by CCC President Nelson Chamisa purportedly representing the CCC and directed at the Speaker and ZEC, which are cited as Annexure PDI, PD3, PDS and PD6 in their application.

However, Tshabangu claimed those letters constitute “hearsay evidence which is inadmissible as affidavits.”

Moreso, the party is not an applicant in these proceedings and neither has it been cited as a respondent and it cannot challenge my authority to write the recall letter and the contents thereof,” he said.

Tshabangu argues therefore, the relief sought by the recalled MPs is “incompetent”.

“The relief sought fails to set aside the actions of the Party but rather seeks to set aside my actions, which actions and authority were derived from the party. In terms of Section 129(k) it is the party and only the party that can recall,” he said.

“Without an order setting aside the actions of the Party or interdicting the Party an interdict against me or the Speaker and ZEC is incompetent and even if granted would be of no effect.”

Tshabangu also said despite pleas made by the recalled MPs that their case is urgent meaning it cannot wait, he contends there is “nothing urgent about this matter. “

“The Applicants allege that the matter is ‘urgent’ in paragraph 49.2 which simply relates to the existence of a vacancy which should be filled within 90 days. The filling of vacancies is a process regulated and provided in terms of the law,” read his opposition notice.

Meanwhile ZEC’s Chief Elections Officer, Utoile Silaigwana responded that the MPs had not cited President Emmerson Mnangagwa who is the one who proclaims election dates as their job is to follow the law.

“Once the president makes the proclamation, ZEC is again enjoined by dictate of the law to proceed with the electoral process as proclaimed lest it be in violation of its constitutional mandate to conduct by-elections so proclaimed,” Silaigwana said.

However,  CCC said the publication of proclamation dates for the by-elections while the recalls are challenged in court was “a clear indication of (President Emmerson) Mnangagwa’s involvement in the recalls.”

“Zimbabwe is now facing an unprecedented constitutional and political crisis,” the CCC said in a statement.

“The party will explore all available solutions to protect the nation from the unnecessary anguish of going through another election immediately after a contentious one.”

Tshabangu to recall more CCC MPs

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) self-styled interim secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu has welcomed President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s proclamation of 9 December as the by-election date for nine vacant constituencies.

The vacancies were created when Tshabangu wrote to the Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda on 03 October 2023, announcing that he had recalled 14 legislators, including proportional representation MPs – drawn mainly from Matabeleland South, Matabeleland North, and Bulawayo provinces.

Tshabangu told News24 that they have already lined up candidates to replace those who were recalled.

“We already have candidates who will fill those positions and those people who initially earned the berths to represent CCC ahead of those we recalled. We recalled them because they were imposed on the electorate,” Tshabangu said.

Tshabangu is recognised by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) as the man in charge of CCC, therefore, the recalled candidates, if they intend to stand for re-election, will have to find an alternative name for their party or contest as independents.

Tshabangu also revealed that he will recall more CCC MPs, setting the stage for more by-elections.

Tshabangu said, “There’s a clarion call from the citizens nationwide, who say that the imposition of candidates was not only in Bulawayo and Matabeleland. As such, we will do relevant recalls as time goes on.”

The nomination court will sit on 07 November for the 09 December by-elections

UK student struck by bullets

Two of the trio – which includes a young student from the UK – were struck by bullets as the gang fired at their car at least four times to force it off the road.

The pair suffered injuries after they were shot through the doors of their Suzuki Chery during the journey to the Kruger National Park to work with conservation and wildlife.

The hail of bullets also smashed the windscreen and windows, showering the petrified passengers with flying glass.

The masked thugs then tore open the sliding doors and jumped in the driver’s seat before taking the hysterical girls on a hellish ride.

They drove the students, who were taking part in a photography internship, to a secluded spot near White River, 25 miles from the Kruger gates in Mpumalanga Province.

The three gunmen stole the tourists’ luggage, camera equipment and laptops worth thousands of pounds as well as stripping them of their mobile phones, cash, valuables and jewellery.

The victims were then abandoned on the dark dirt track while two of the tearful girls were bleeding from their bullet wounds.

The uninjured volunteer then took the wheel of the Suzuki and drove to find help, pulling over at the Timrite Yaverland sawmill.

She then flagged down nearby security guards who raised the alarm, before emergency services rushed to the scene.

Paramedics stabilised the two students who had been shot while all three were treated for cuts from the flying glass.

The trio were taken to the Nelspruit Mediclinic at Mbombela where they were also treated for shock following the traumatising incident.

One victim is believed to be of Dutch origin but who went to school in England and is said to be studying at an English university.

The other shot student is from Utrecht in the Netherlands. She was studying biology and volunteered to work with animals in conservation abroad before including in Peru.

All three of the victims had signed up for a month-long £3,750 Photography and Wildlife Conservation Course with African Impact.

The company organises volunteer internships throughout Africa and regularly welcome students from around the world.

The two students who sustained gunshot wounds have now returned to their volunteering.

South African police are treating the shocking ambush on June 30 as attempted murder.

Cops confirmed “numerous” shots were fired at the volunteers vehicle that was seemingly heading to their accommodation outside the Kruger National Park.

The latest chilling attack in the area is a blow to the local Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency, who are desperate to protect vital tourism.

John Meintjes of ACS Security, whose guards at Timrite Sawmills were approached by the victims shortly after they were hijacked, said: “They were hysterical and had been shot at.

“They told my staff they had been robbed by three gunmen and two were shot in the leg and the other hit by glass and the guards gave first aid while waiting for an ambulance.

HIJACKING HORROR

“The girls were very worried the gunmen would come back again but the guards were in control but the robbers had taken everything of value they had in their car.”

It is believed the three girls would have had a large amount of belongings with them as they embarked on their month-long internship run by African Impact.

They would have been working under a professional photographer learning the skills of how to capture wildlife through the lens, as well as editing and presenting tips.

African Impact says it provides volunteers with “life changing experiences” throughout Africa.

A South African Police spokesman said: “A Suzuki parked at the sawmill a few minutes later and 3 white females came out of the vehicle crying for help and said that they had been shot by unknown suspects.

“They took all their belongings and there were two victims who had been shot and were taken to hospital with serious injuries and it is being treated as attempted murder.

“No arrests have been made as yet of the suspects who were in a silver VW Polo.”

Greg Bows, Founder of African Impact, said: “This was obviously a horrifying ordeal for our volunteers to go through while they were enjoying some free time a few hours’ drive from our project base.

“Understandably they, their parents and the whole group were left deeply shocked by what happened.

“As an organisation our focus is on helping support the three volunteers involved and their families as best we can, as well as the whole project group, including providing professional trauma support to anyone who needs it.

“We continue to work closely with the police and other relevant authorities as they investigate.

“I’m pleased to report that in the weeks since it happened, the volunteers have returned to the volunteer base and have got back into their volunteering work as soon as they felt ready.”

Model Katie Price, 45, was ambushed by carjackers in South Africa in 2018, who swiped gems, cash, laptops and camera gear.

It is understood the nightmare was witnessed by Junior, 12, and Princess, 10 — her children with ex-husband Peter Andre.

The famous mother-of-five claimed that one of the six armed robbers raped her while she was travelling from Johannesburg to Swaziland with her kids and a film crew

Katie told a pal: “We are lucky to be alive, it could have been much worse.”

She later spent time in a Priory rehab clinic, where she was diagnosed with PTSD after the attack.

The gang, who also used a VW Polo, were never caught.

Driver crashes into gun totting teen

In a bid to save himself the terrified driver instantly sprang into action slamming down the accelerator and crashing into the kid – sending him flying into the air.

Corporate manager Mario Campbell, was just slowing down at traffic lights in a township near Cape Town when a teenager calmly walked out into the dual carriageway.

As the attacker raised his gun pointing it straight at the horrified father-of-two the car engine can be heard roaring as he floors the pedal and aims his Toyota Agya straight at him.

The shocking dashcam video shows the hapless young criminal realising too late that the tables had turned and that he was now the one in danger – as 1.3 tons of metal was hurtling towards him.

The wannabe carjacker is somersaulted over the left side of the bonnet and lands on his back in the road at Khayelitsha township where some 2.5m live in poverty in shacks.

Mario is no stranger to these attacks as he has been in a similar life threatening situation before.

He has an earlier video showing him speeding away from an axeman on the same stretch of road just metres from where he was held up at gun point this time around.

The businessman told friends on Facebook: “First a maniac with an axe trying to smash his way into my car then a kid who should have been at school holding me up with a handgun!

“That is it dudes I am taking a different way into work from now on – I just want to go to work and come home to my family safe”.

Thousands took to social media supporting Mario as his video went viral praising him for taking the law into his own hands and hailed him a “hero” for fighting back against criminals.

Community leader Bongile Zanazo said the Mew Way Bridge where Mario was targeted is a carjacking hotspot that often sees car-jackings at gunpoint and knifepoint.

He said: “We are aware of the various crimes incidents that keep happening there and have put into place an stiff action plan to combat it but the details of that are being kept top secret.

“We also implore the City of Cape Town to deploy more police officers to the area to prevent these crimes taking place”.

The first 28 seconds of chilling video footage shows Mario casually driving along the highway behind a station wagon and a minibus taxi.

However when he slows down to allow another car onto the road the gunman suddenly appears – seizing the opportunity to attack.

The youth had been biding his time and waiting for the perfect moment for his ambush – as he was seen sitting beside the road on a crash barrier.

He is believed to have selected his target after he saw the company logo on the car – as he suspected it would contain valuables.

Mario refused to comment for fear of reprisals after injuring the gunman who manage to escape limping back into the maze of shacks after being hit but a close pal said: “He is a very brave man.

“Three months before at almost the same spot a robber with an axe went after him but he got away and now he has run over a gunman – that is twice and you can only be lucky so many times.

“He now takes another route to and from work and is fully aware of his surroundings at every set of traffic lights” she said.

It is understood the thieves who menace dozens of miles of the local roads target company cars that are marked as it is likely they have laptops and expensive equipment on board.

The local Khayelitsha Police Station has more carjackings reported than any other police station in South Africa and each year the country suffers over 22,000 such car incidents.

Local Crime Watch volunteer Juwa Dimande said: “If you stop at a red traffic light, as a law abiding citizen would of course do, you are putting yourself at risk of an attack or even death.

“They will smash your window and if you resist them they will shoot you.  Simple as that.  All the traffic lights do in Khayelitsha is change colour – nobody stops for them.  It’s too dangerous.

“Even ambulances attending emergencies to save the lives of the township people are attacked and robbed and carjacked” he said.

On June 30 Mario’s dashcam video which also records inside the car as well as outside picked up two men walking alongside his car on the passenger side as he pulled up at traffic lights.

It was just 200 yards from the set of lights where the schoolboy tried to carjack him with a gun earlier this month.

The footage shows two raiders knocking on his passenger window to distract him while a third robber armed with a vicious axe pulls it out from under his jacket and tries to smash his window.

Fortunately the blade bounces off the Toyota Agya window allowing Mario to hit the accelerator and speed off to safety.

Mario’s attack at gunpoint is the second recent robbery attempt in which a motorist has fought back after driver Sandy-Lee Ward was caught on CCTV being robbed of her handbag in her car.

Sandy-Lee, 45, was sitting in her Toyota Tazz in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal Province, and about to put in her ticket to open a car park barrier when two robbers suddenly forced her car door open.

One reached in and snatched a gold chain from around her neck and the other her handbag and one ran to a waiting getaway car and the other ran across the forecourt of a nearby garage.

Furious Sandy-Lee hit the accelerator and is seen on CCTV crashing through the lowered barrier and then accelerating straight forward the robber fleeing with her handbag.

A second CCTV camera takes up the pursuit as a South African Police vehicle parked up and the robber is seeing running for his life while Sandy-Lee races her Toyota up right behind him.

She hits him hard with the car bonnet and he is propelled 25 feet through the air landing on his back but drops the handbag containing her ID, phone, house keys, purse and credit cards

Sandy-Lee said: “A petrol attendant ran over and picked up my handbag from the robber then ran over and gave it back to me and laughed and said “Well done sister, you got one!”

“I drove off and the police car chased me as it thought I was a hit and run but when I stopped and explained what happened they turned round and went and arrested the injured robber.

“I just saw red when he stole my handbag and don’t remember driving through the boom and I don’t remember planning to run him over but I know I did hit him bloody hard and got him.

“I’m glad I never killed him but am also very glad I got my stolen handbag back” she said.

Like Mario, Toyota Tazz driver Sandy-Lee became the heroine of social media as her video also went viral with a number of lawyers offering to defend her for free if he police charged her.

But South African Police have confirmed that they would take no further action against her but would take her victim to court for aggravated robbery – when he is well enough to leave hospital!

South Africa is one of the most dangerous countries in the world with some 76 murders a day and over 120 reported rapes.

Residents resort to bucket toilets as water woes persist

“The life of excreting in buckets is not easy. Right now, the toilet is blocked and has been unusable for months, so we are forced to relieve ourselves in buckets. It is not an easy life.”

Such is the situation at Rosejoy Gonye’s home in Chitungwiza’s Unit N.

She and fellow residents in this heavily populated suburb have lived like that for many months.

These are the effects of Harare Metropolitan Province’s perennial water crisis.

Chitungwiza is a dormitory town of Harare and receives its water from the Harare City Council, which is struggling to deliver potable water even to its own residents.

Harare relies on Lake Chivero as the main water source and shoulders the burden of supplying not only greater Harare and  Chitungwiza, but must also satisfy the water needs for the sprawling Epworth, Ruwa and even the growing town of Norton Town in Mashonaland West Province.

The presidential borehole drilling scheme in many urban areas has to some extent lessened the water crisis but as another Chitungwiza resident, Sarah Nyamavhunga says, the water scarcity is still a huge challenge in the dormitory town.

“We have gone almost two months without receiving tap water here,” said Nyamavhunga.

“The boreholes that were drilled in the name of the president in the run-up to elections appear unable to solve the water problem here.

“The population has grown exponentially in recent years and the present water sources are not able to cope.

“Some of the boreholes are located in sewer logged areas and the water from there is not safe to drink.

“So we use the borehole water for washing, flushing toilets, and cooking. Chances for everyone to get sufficient potable water at any given time are slim.

“Ordinarily, each person gets about five buckets of water from the boreholes per day and that is not enough.

“We appeal to the government and the local authority to ensure we receive running water in our taps.”

Harare Metropolitan Resident Forum chairperson Marvelous Kumalo said: “We need a sustainable solution to this water crisis we find ourselves in at the moment.

“Continuous sinking of boreholes is not the solution and it will affect underground water,” Kumalo said.

The government said that it drilled 303 boreholes in Ruwa, Epworth, Chitungwiza, Harare and Norton and will drill more in the province.

Epworth Residents Development Association secretary Peter Nyapetwa told The Standard in an interview that the water supply situation in the town was worsening.

“We are supposed to be getting water from Harare, but only a fraction of people, about 3%, are lucky to receive tap water,” Nyapetwe said.

“The supply is not consistent at all. In some areas residents get the water just once in a month.

“The main water sources here are boreholes.

“But most of them are drying up and residents, especially, have a torrid time fetching water in faraway places while some have resorted to the condemned quarry dams.

“We fear for the worst with the cholera outbreak in Harare”.

Harare has a population of 1,849,600, according to the 2022 census, and the province has 2,487,209 people.

According to a 2021 report by ZimFact, Harare’s water system was designed in the 1960s and produces approximately 704 mega litres (ML) of water per day against an estimated daily demand of between 800ML to 1 300ML.

The perennial water crisis in Harare metro’s local authorities has been linked to obsolete water infrastructure, a ballooning population, climate change, inadequate treatment chemicals, and pervasive government corruption and mismanagement.

The Morton Jeffrey water purification plant was designed for a maximum population of 300,000 back then, before independence, and obsolete infrastructure has seen council lose a lot of water through leakages.

“The water supply situation in Harare is dire, especially looking at the level of demand per day versus the daily supply capacity,” Kumalo said.

“The outbreak of cholera at this moment in Harare confirms that we are indeed in a crisis situation.”

Harare mayor Ian Makone told Human Rights Watch in 2021 that water woes were due to leakages in the old, dilapidated, and inadequate water distribution network.

“More than 40%  of pumped-treated water is not delivered due to leakages,” said Makone, who was a councilor then.

Harare Residents Trust director Precious Shumba said the local authority had failed to provide adequate potable water to its residents.

“At least 60% of treated water is being lost through leakages and illegal connections along the water distribution network,” Shumba said.

“This leaves only 40%  of treated water to be supplied to connected households.

“The rest of the population relies on shallow wells and community boreholes sunk by humanitarian agencies, the church, and council.

“To worsen the situation, people in Glen View, Glen Norah and Budiriro have the misfortune of having poorly laid-down underground sewerage pipes that are blocked, sand filled and broken.

“The result is that the boreholes in these areas yield water that is contaminated.

“As a result our water is highly risky to consume, hence the spread of dysentery, diarrhoea and other water-borne diseases.

“The environment is also contaminated. Refuse collection has collapsed across most suburbs.

“To further complicate the situation, the sewerage treatment plants are dysfunctional and untreated sewer is being discharged into the rivers and streams leading to Lake Chivero.

“Going forward, underground water and sewerage infrastructure should be urgently replaced.”

In a notice, Harare town clerk Hosiah Chisango said water supply was affected because of a lake turn at Lake Chivero.

“This (lake turn) happens when warm water at the bottom of the lake rises to the top of the water body where water for treatment is abstracted,” Chisango said.

“This phenomenon brings the dirty water to the abstraction point (the level where water is drawn from the lake to the treatment works for treatment).”

Combined Harare Residents Association director Rueben Akili, however, argued that the water crisis is manmade.

The actual megalitres received by Chitungwiza from Harare City Council are not known as the town doesn’t have a bulk metre and Harare’s breaks down sometimes.

Chitungwiza resolved during a recent strategic planning review workshop to purchase its own metre to be able to know the actual amount received from Harare.

The satellite town’s finance director Evangelista Machona disclosed during the workshop in Chinhoyi that Chitungwiza could be receiving seven megalitres per day.

Agriculture minister Anxious Masuka, who is chairman of the newly formed national action committee on water, sanitation and hygiene, attributed the water crisis to  ageing infrastructure and lack of treatment chemicals.

“The water demand growth for the City of Harare shows that it overtook its supply capacity in 1995,” Masuka said.

“However, in the ensuing 28 years, the water infrastructure has been allowed to deteriorate.

“Consequently, the current situation is that both Morton Jaffray and Prince Edward waterworks are delivering 302.96 megalitres per day (ML/day) out of the potential 704 ML/day, as per their design capacity.

“No new investments have taken place to augment supply, while reticulation and sewerage systems have become dilapidated.”

Masuka, however, said that the primary reason for the current production capacity was due to inadequate supply of chemicals caused by council’s limited resources to purchase them.

“Put simply, because of a cash flow challenge at the City of Harare, government has resolved to purchase a one-month supply of chemicals for the immediate relief of residents,” he added.

“This will increase treated water production capacity from the current 303ML/day to 520ML/day.

“Residents should see an immediate improvement in water supply.”

Former Chitungwiza town clerk George Makunde felt that the solution to ease the water crisis is for government to complete the construction of Muda Dam, which would make the town stand alone.

“Whilst the government intervention in the water supply situation in the metropolitan province sounds noble it does not exhibit the much-expected lasting solution to Chitungwiiza’s water woes,” Makunde said. “The Muda Dam project is the lasting solution.”

Kumalo shared the same sentiments.

“For now it’s too early to note an improvement,” he said.

“The best sustainable solution is to construct more dams such as Kunzvi and Muda as well as water purification plants at these dams to address the raw water demand and supply situation,”

In a statement, the Muda Dam Movement  blamed the ongoing  cholera outbreak on the unavailability of clean, safe, and portable water.

“This unfortunate situation underscores the critical importance of expediting the construction of Muda Dam for the residents of Chitungwiza and surrounding areas, Chitungwiza continues to feed off Harare’s water supply system, exerting more pressure and worsening Harare’s water supply challenges,” the movement said.

“The construction of Muda Dam is a vital initiative that will provide a lasting solution to challenges in the delivery of portable water.

“With the increased water storage and distribution capacity, the dam and water treatment plant will enable better sanitation practices and mitigate the risks associated with waterborne diseases such as cholera.

City of Harare spokesperson Stanley Gama also said the solution to the water crisis was to construct more dams. Gama confirmed that leakages affected water supply a greatly.

“The only way we can get to that level is if we get another big water source like Kunzvi  Dam, if it’s completed on time and that’s a matter for the central government. Three weeks ago the lake turn affected water supply but now it has normalized,” he said.

“We pumped water from Manyame to the water works to get clean water to mix with that from Lake Chivero.

“For maximum production, we need our clarifiers and our filters to be working properly.

“Right now we have a challenge in those two areas.

“As we speak, the council is negotiating with the suppliers to make sure that this is rectified as early as next week.

“So from next week you will see an improvement in water supply when the situation is resolved.”

“ED is an artful conman”

When President Emmerson Mnangagwa made Constantino Chiwenga the Health minister — or rather, the VP made himself the Health minister — a couple of years ago, some of us holed hoarse and far.

So, when Mnangagwa removed Chiwenga from that position when he announced his latest cabinet after the August elections, there was a silent and measured sigh of relief.

It was never going to make sense to have the VP running that ministry.

After all, the only qualification that Chiwenga held was that he had been in several hospitals for long periods after the 2017 coup, critically ill.

If Mnangagwa does something that looks nice, you don’t quickly celebrate.

That’s because he is an artful conman. He gives you a morsel with one hand and takes away a whole load with the another,

That’s exactly what happened this past week.

When you think about it closely, you will notice that, with a swift stroke of the pen, the president has turned himself into a super minister.

He placed a staggering 13 laws in his own office. That was announced through Statutory Instrument 189 of 2023.

This means that he will personally administer the 13 statutes, wresting them away from the respective ministers.

It will be a long time before we get to know the real reasons why the president decided to turn himself into a busybody like that.

One thing for sure, though. This is a bigly ominous move. It gives you this feeling that things will not end well in Zimbabwe.

But whatever the reasons, one thing is clear. Given the nature of most of the laws that Mnangagwa has decided to relocate to a grain hut at his homestead there in rural Zvishavane where he comes from, this chap is not wasting time piling power and eating opportunities around himself.

In other words, he is using lawfare to strengthen his grip on power and to eat more.

What it means, in effect, is that the president will have direct and unfettered control on how those respective statutes are administered, rather than leaving that to the uninitiated whims of the ministers.

That was not necessary, though. All the ministers that Mnangagwa appointed recently are just a loose hip of grovelling pawns.

Even more tellingly, his first vice president, Chiwenga, has been reduced to a brooding duck, just as a VP must be in Zimbabwe.

Let’s start with the feeding issues, the Sovereign Wealth Fund Act.

You know by now that this law was renamed the Mutapa Investment Fund recently.

Ordinarily, there is nothing in a name or name change.

But it seems, here, the decision to rename it was meant to create some drama good enough to divert attention from what is happening.

The Mutapa Investment Fund Act regulates at least 20 parastatals, among them NetOne, NRZ, TelOne, Cottco and Zupco, Kuvimba Mining House, Cold Storage Commission, National Oil Company of Zimbabwe and People’s Own Savings Bank.

It seems Mnangagwa was not satisfied only with diluting Finance minister Mthuli Ncube’s powers by shadowing him with his own son, Kuda as the deputy minister.

He has taken away from the minister, the Sovereign Wealth Fund Act just so that he gives it a close eye as he diversifies the dishes on the banquet table.

If you look at almost all those parastatals that Mnangagwa has firmly put under his own shoulder, there is something fishy about them.

They have an infamous history of corruption. They have been abused by the political elite as they fatten their pockets.

The Mutapa Investment Fund, which was created or recreated without bothering to involve Parliament, is a giant cookie jar.

It’s supposed to use investment surpluses, proceeds of public entity privatisation, government transfer as well as other fiscal surpluses and resource earnings to generate more money.

This is a mouthful to say those that are close to the fund have the chance to do all sorts of things with our money.

From sneaking in corrupt tenders and jobs to the clandestine externalisation to tax heavens, millions and millions of dollars will end up in personal accounts.

It can also be used to create monopolies for those that have the opportunity to abuse the fund.

Not too far into the future, you will hear of all sorts of projects being established using money from the fund.

And one thing will be sure. It will be Mnangagwa and his cronies like Kuda Tagwirei who will be at the centre of the cast.

As regards Tagwirei, kindly note that he has already been involved in controversial initiatives at some of the companies that will be administered from Mnangagwa’s office.

These include Kuvimba Mining House, a mysterious company that was set up equally mysteriously after Tagwirei was put under international sanctions.

This entity was set up without involving Parliament or cabinet even though Mnangagwa tried to convince us that it is a government portfolio.

Its interests span a whole valley, including mining. In reality, it was established to mask Tagwirei’s commercial interests in the wake of the sanctions, and to provide the space for all manner of looting.

You also know about the Landela deal. Landela is Tagwirei’s baby which entered into an opaque deal with Zupco to buy buses that the deal makers wanted to appear as if they belonged to the public transporter. The truth, though, is that those are Tagwirei’s buses.

But then, when you see Tagwirei, make sure that Mnangagwa is lurking close by.

The same applies with the National Oil Company of Zimbabwe.

That is the public entity that Tagwirei used to seize monopolistic control of a whole mega-million oil pipeline, Feruka, stretching from Mozambique to Harare.

Kuda was the face of the deal. He wouldn’t have single handedly been able to grab such a deal if he wasn’t eating with the big boys.

But just in case someone is going to be naughty and try to poke his or her own snort in the dishes, gaps must be plugged.

That’s where the Anti-Corruption Act, Commissions of Inquiry Act, Interception of Communications Act as well as the Prevention of Corruption Act come in handy,

Direct administration of these laws means that Mnangagwa will be in control of who will be investigated and who will not be investigated on allegations of corruption.

The Interception of Communications Act will give the president the privilege of who and what to bug.

It will be him alone who will decide who to bring under surveillance, and that, certainly will not be him, his sons, Tagwirei or the other village boys and girls.

Overall, it means that Mnangagwa is building a perimeter wall around himself and his buddies so that they will be able to eat without being disturbed by nosy crawlers, particularly his foes in government and the ruling Zanu PF party.

That’s a smart move for him, considering the fierce factional wars within the ruling party.

It’s also telling that some of the laws that he has domiciled in his office are power laws.

Outside the already mentioned ones, there is the Zimbabwe National Security Council Act.

If you know how political power plays out in Zimbabwe, you will also know that the highly militarised security council is where everything happens.

Zimbabwe, virtually, is ruled by that council. It decides everything from when summer will start and end to how to steal elections.

If you build this into what Mnangagwa has already done in a short space of time, you then easily see where he is going with the royal staff.

Just about everyone in government now is his son, uncle, niece or pawn.

That’s a good Machiavellian strategy for dictators.

Now he is taking all the power laws home with him.  It will not end well.

Duo in soup over fraud

Last week, two provincial education officers from Mashonaland Central faced court charges for unlawfully claiming allowances from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

Smart Makarutsa, aged 52, and Aaron Gomba, also aged 52, made their appearance before Bindura Magistrate Samantha Dlamini, who granted them bail at US$200 each, setting their next court date for November 13.

The charges revolve around an alleged act of corruption in which the accused individuals orchestrated the improper disbursement of US$550 for travel and subsistence allowances.

According to the prosecution led by Carson Kundiona, Makarutsa and Gomba purportedly collaborated with their colleagues, Benny Muzurura and Lilian Mukorera, who remain at large. Together, they allegedly submitted falsified documents to the Ministry’s headquarters, seeking reimbursement.

FAZ leader loses 3 relatives

Kudakwashe Munsaka, the leader of Forever Associates Zimbabwe (Faz), suffered a tragic loss when three members of his family were struck by lightning during torrential rains in Zimbabwe last Tuesday. The devastating incident occurred in Binga, Matabeleland North, amid heavy rains and strong winds that caused widespread damage and left some families homeless.

Faz is an affiliate group of Zanu-PF with reported links to the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO). The organization gained prominence during the controversial August 23 and 24 harmonized elections, where it was implicated in alleged electoral misconduct, including vote rigging.

The unfortunate lightning strike claimed the lives of Kudakwashe Munsaka’s aunt, Belitha Munkuli (79), and her two grandchildren, Meekness Munkuli (11) and Accept Bulemu (5), along with a neighbor named Rudo Muzamba. They were sleeping in a thatched hut when lightning struck and set the hut ablaze. The tragedy raised the death toll to four in the region.

Last Monday, a similar lightning strike killed four children from the same family in Wadzenenga village, Buhera, Manicaland province. Although their mother, Ever Mutamba (31), survived, she sustained severe injuries to one of her legs.

Zimbabwe is known for its susceptibility to lightning strikes, with the majority of lightning-related fatalities and injuries occurring in rural areas.

Kudakwashe Munsaka expressed his shock and pain over the incident and mentioned that the Binga community was also deeply affected. He provided coffins and food for the mourners in the wake of the tragedy.

Faz, under Munsaka’s leadership, played a prominent role in the August elections, including coordinating campaign activities and running party primaries for Zanu-PF. The group was accused of various electoral wrongdoings and intimidating suspected opposition supporters during the disputed elections.

It is often perceived as a parallel structure within Zanu-PF, allegedly under the control of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO).

Man collects 93 snakes, keeps them in granary

By A Correspondent- In a chilling incident that unfolded in Binga, Matabeleland North province, under Chief Pashu’s jurisdiction, a local villager has been apprehended for allegedly harboring 93 snakes in a granary.

snake

The villager, Million Mukombwe, a 47-year-old resident of Kamativi, reportedly maintained a collection of snakes, including pythons and spotted push snakes, claiming that he kept them to control rats, termites, and small garden pests.

The alarming discovery was made when the police received a tip-off suggesting that Mukombwe was cultivating marijuana (mbanje) in his garden. During the investigation, authorities found 197 cannabis plants, approximately 29 centimeters in length. Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Glory Banda, confirmed the incident.

Inspector Banda stated that the local community was astonished by the arrest of one of its members for domesticating snakes within his granary.

The accused recently appeared before the Hwange Magistrates Court, where he was released on bail and is scheduled for a continuation of the trial on October 26. Inspector Banda issued a warning to the public, urging them to refrain from harboring species that are protected by law.

Inspector Banda also urged people to avoid engaging in the illegal farming and selling of marijuana, emphasizing that such activities are prohibited in the country and can lead to a breakdown of trust within the community, as it is traditionally uncommon to find individuals keeping snakes.

Latest on Mohadi collapse

By A Correspondent- Vice President Kembo Mohadi collapsed during his address at a Zanu-PF by-election campaign launch for the Gutu West constituency, where ruling party deputy youth secretary John Paradza is running.

The by-election is scheduled for November 11 and was postponed from August 23 following the death of candidate Christopher Mutonhori Rwodzi.

During the campaign event, Mohadi collapsed while on the podium and had to be airlifted to an undisclosed medical facility for treatment. Witnesses described how he asked for water and then fell to the ground. Zanu-PF officials and security personnel rushed to assist the Vice President, carrying him to a nearby vehicle before his evacuation by air.

Security agents reportedly ordered journalists covering the event to delete all pictures of Mohadi’s collapse. Some private media journalists were targeted by former Zanu-PF youth boss Tendai Chirau, who defended the actions as a way for the party to control its narrative.

Despite the commotion, Zanu-PF officials, including Secretary for Security Lovemore Matuke, played down the incident, suggesting it was due to sugar diabetes. John Paradza, the candidate for the Gutu West by-election, reassured the public that Vice President Mohadi was safe.

It’s worth noting that there have been previous reports of ill health among senior government officials in Zimbabwe, some of whom are beyond the retirement age. The incident raised concerns about the well-being of key political figures in the country.

a meeting of the Central Committee and Politburo in Harare, before party members convene at the Convention Centre on Friday and Saturday.
Marapira said all the preparations are close to completion.
“The preparations are going very well. Renovations at the venue are ahead of schedule, with 80 percent of the work already done. We expect to have an attendance of not more than 3 500 delegates.
“Delegates are already being accredited and logistics have been put in place for their accommodation and transportation. Food and the majority of additional structures needed to make this programme succeed have already been provided.”

During the tour, Muchinguri-Kashiri said: “We are the ruling party, which has a constitution that dictates programmes we should do. We hold elections, as dictated by the constitution, unlike other parties that do not even have constitutions. We also observe the national Constitution and that is why we win elections.”

Here’s The Full Leaked Pastor Mukanahana WhatsApp Audio, What’s The Fuss?

By Leslie Mpala | Once upon a time, in the tranquil town of Harare, there lived a man named Rev. Oscar Mukanahana. Rev. Mukanahana was a respected Bible preacher, well into his 60s, known for his wisdom and compassion. He had spent a lifetime spreading love and hope through his sermons, but little did the town know that the reverend had a secret, a secret that was now causing a whirlwind of misunderstanding.

The trouble began when rumors started swirling about Rev. Mukanahana having an affair with an undisclosed lover. Gossips whispered, tongues wagged, and many Zimbabweans were perplexed. How could a senior preacher, a man of the cloth, be embroiled in such a scandal?

But there was more to the story than met the eye. Rev. Mukanahana, though in the autumn of his life, was not immune to the challenges that many faced. Health issues had plagued him for some time, particularly his heart. A young woman, who had been part of his congregation, had taken it upon herself to assist him with his cardio struggles. Her intentions were purely rooted in compassion and kindness.

Then there was the matter of his marriage. The reverend had experienced a profound breakdown in his marriage, a matter too complex and deeply personal to be disclosed publicly. The weight of cultural expectations bore down upon him, making it impossible for him to openly discuss his struggles. He carried this burden quietly, seeking solace in the arms of his undisclosed lover.

But that wasn’t the end of the story. In this age of technology, even a respected preacher like Rev. Mukanahana wasn’t spared from the perils of modern devices. He had inadvertently recorded private moments on his mobile phone. It was a simple mistake, his handset accidentally activated as it rested in his pocket. These innocent recordings were misinterpreted as evidence of an affair, fueling the flames of misunderstanding.

As the town buzzed with scandalous tales, it became clear that Rev. Mukanahana’s love trouble was not what it seemed. In a world filled with complexities, challenges, and unforeseen circumstances, even a Bible preacher could find himself entangled in an undisclosed love affair.

What if?

The story of Rev. Oscar Mukanahana serves as a reminder that behind every person’s actions, there may be layers of justifiable reasons and untold stories. As the people of Harare came to understand the truth, they learned the importance of compassion and not rushing to judgment, especially when it came to matters of the heart.

Sanyatwe To Crash The Economy By USD224Billion

Brig Ancelem Sanyatwe

SADC Urged to Investigate Anselem Sanyatwe’s Appointment as Zimbabwe’s Military Commander Amidst Coup Allegations and Economic Fears

By Business Reporter | ANALYSIS | ZimEye | Date: October 22, 2023
The 2018 coup general, Anselem Sanyatwe has been appointed as the Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army, a decision that has reignited painful memories of the events of August 1, 2018. On that fateful day, Sanyatwe’s presence on Harare’s First Street had a catastrophic impact, resulting in a staggering economic loss of USD 16 billion and severely destabilizing the nation’s financial stability.

The mere mention of Sanyatwe’s name evokes memories of the tumultuous day when his actions caused a catastrophic impact on Zimbabwe’s economy. His involvement led to a loss of confidence in the country’s stability, prompting investors to flee and the stock market to plummet. The repercussions of this economic catastrophe continue to echo through Zimbabwe’s history.

With Sanyatwe now assuming command and leading an army of approximately 50,000 soldiers, Zimbabweans are left to contemplate the dire economic consequences that may follow. While it’s challenging to predict the exact outcome, the implications are grave, given the economic turmoil caused by his previous involvement.

In an unprecedented revelation, the Finance Ministry discloses that Sanyatwe’s entrance into First Street on that infamous day in 2018 resulted in a staggering loss of USD 16 billion in investment. This revelation is part of the Finance Ministry’s assessment report submitted to a panel tasked with investigating Sanyatwe’s actions—a move that was also strongly condemned by the United Nations following the Motlanthe Commission.

The question that now looms over Zimbabwe is whether the nation can withstand the economic fallout of Sanyatwe leading a force of 50,000 soldiers, given that a single day under his command once cost the nation USD 16 billion.

While the precise economic repercussions remain uncertain, the return of a figure associated with such a colossal financial disaster has raised serious concerns. Investors may once again become hesitant, foreign aid and assistance could dwindle, and economic growth may stall.

As Zimbabwe embarks on this new chapter with Sanyatwe as the National Army Commander, the nation remains on edge, acutely aware of the potential economic turmoil that could follow. The specter of August 1, 2018, continues to haunt the country, and Zimbabweans can only hope that lessons have been learned, and history does not repeat itself. The call for the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to investigate these developments and their potential impact on the region’s stability grows stronger by the day.

LEAKED BEDROOM AUDIO: What If Rev Mukanahana Was Totally Innocent?

How UK Nurse Tricked Zimbabweans To Swindle USD25mln

Rough estimate calculated based on average payments, on the assumption of all collections being purely land related.
The leaked document

By A Correspondent | An intensive three-year investigation has uncovered a massive financial scandal involving a UK nurse, Sithule Tshuma, who is accused of diverting a staggering $25 million from investors under the guise of purchasing agricultural land in Zimbabwe. The investigation has exposed a complex web of deception and fraudulent practices, leaving numerous investors in despair.

Tshuma, who had promised investors that their funds would be used to acquire land in Zimbabwe, claimed to be operating a community interest company known as “QOKI ZINDLOVUKAZI GROUP C.I.C.” However, it has been revealed that this entity was neither a CIC nor a multiple-director organization, as she had previously asserted. A CIC under UK law requires at least three directors or trustees, but Tshuma operated it as a one-person business. (read the full story)

The scheme, which lured investors with promises of blessing and empowerment, employed deceptive tactics that included trapping buyers through an installment-concept payment model instead of an outright purchase. Victims were made to believe that they were investing in a community-driven initiative when, in reality, they were funding Tshuma’s private business.

Investors paid substantial sums ranging from $7,000 to $70,000 per person, with the total funds raised reaching a staggering $25 million. However, years later, not a single residential stand had been delivered as promised. This has left investors questioning how such a substantial amount of money could be raised over a six-year period without any tangible results.

The initial investigation by ZimEye uncovered numerous fraudulent practices, including:

1. **Fake Community Organization:** Tshuma falsely advertised her company as a community interest organization when, in fact, it was a one-person operation.

2. **Incomplete Contracts:** Investors signed incomplete or skimpy contracts that were only signed by one party, leaving them vulnerable.

3. **Bullying and Harassment:** Tshuma and her associates engaged in coordinated bullying on social media, silencing anyone who questioned their operations.

4. **Evasive Answers:** Tshuma avoided providing clear answers to inquiries and diverted conversations, leaving investors in the dark about the true nature of their investments.

5. **Lack of Transparency:** Investors were not informed that the products they were buying into were not divisible, and they faced the risk of losing their entire investment in the event of death.

6. **Cult-like Behavior:** Tshuma’s tactics were described as cult-like, with investors feeling enslaved and bullied.

Properties purchased from 2016 to 2023 were yet to be issued title deeds to buyers, and any complaints were met with bullying and demands for additional payments for land development and maintenance.

The scale of the alleged fraud is immense, involving numerous projects and investors, including Nondwene, Douglasdale, Esigodini, Riverside, Qoki School, Airport Road, Woodville, Burnside, and many more. All of these investors are now left in uncertainty and financial distress.

Sithule Tshuma, in audios addressing investors, continued to claim that her property purchases underwent due diligence processes, assuring them that they would receive title deeds. However, these claims appear to be a part of the deception.

In the wake of this shocking revelation, Tshuma’s lawyer, Zibusiso Charles Ncube, continued to assert that she was not involved in any fraudulent activities, despite the glaring contradictions between her claims and the reality of the situation.

This scandal has had far-reaching implications, and investors who trusted Tshuma are now left facing financial ruin. The case has revealed the need for stronger regulatory oversight and safeguards to protect investors from fraudulent schemes.

In a separate investigation, it was revealed that a UK solicitor, Julian Condliffe, who was closely associated with Tshuma, was found liable in a court case related to deceptive practices in property investments. Condliffe had promised clients empowerment and blessings but failed to deliver on those promises, leaving some clients in such distress that they contemplated suicide.

This breakthrough in exposing fraudulent land investment schemes highlights the importance of due diligence and vigilance in financial investments, and it serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of falling victim to such scams. The authorities are now actively investigating these cases, and legal action is being taken to bring those responsible to justice.

ZANU PF Trapped Between Tshabangu And Obert Mpofu

The Political Quagmire: Obert Mpofu and ZANU PF’s Duplicity

By Farai D Hove | In the ever-shifting landscape of Zimbabwean politics, a recent development has left Obert Mpofu and his ZANU PF party trapped, and their response reveals glaring inconsistencies. The recall of 70 members of parliament from ZANU PF has exposed a duplicitous stance by Mpofu, who vocally complains about the announcement of the recalls, all the while failing to address similar disputes within Nelson Chamisa’s CCC party. Let’s delve into these blind spots in Obert Mpofu’s perspective.

Duality of Mpofu’s Position

Obert Mpofu’s position is outlined in an article he published where he argues that political clout-chasing, mischief, and malice will be the undoing of the opposition. He firmly asserts that ZANU PF is not involved in the CCC’s internal struggles and will not be dragged into their disputes. However, Mpofu’s claims come under scrutiny when we examine his reaction to the recall of ZANU PF MPs.

The Recall Drama

A recall of ZANU PF MPs is an internal matter that should ideally be resolved within the party. Still, Mpofu’s reaction suggests a different story. He complains about a malicious letter purportedly recalling the MPs, ostensibly signed by an interim ZANU PF secretary-general. Mpofu asserts his authority as the secretary-general and questions the existence of this interim figure, labeling it “nonsense.”

Selective Outrage

The crux of the matter lies in Mpofu’s selective outrage. While he vociferously defends ZANU PF against perceived attacks, he remains conspicuously silent on similar controversies within the opposition. This raises questions about his consistency and impartiality in addressing internal disputes.

Playing the Victim

In his article, Mpofu portrays ZANU PF as a victim of the opposition’s malicious tactics. He accuses the opposition of trying to soil ZANU PF’s image and reputation, using “childish behavior” and disinformation campaigns. While such actions are undoubtedly concerning, they must be addressed within a broader context that acknowledges the challenges facing both sides.

Double Standards

A glaring double standard emerges when Mpofu dismisses the CCC’s attempts to gain attention and dialogue while asserting that ZANU PF is under no obligation to engage with the opposition. This contradicts the principles of open and constructive political discourse, essential for a democratic society.

Obert Mpofu’s response to the recall of 70 ZANU PF MPs reflects an apparent blind spot in his vision, and it raises questions about the consistency and fairness of his approach. While he defends ZANU PF vehemently, he ignores similar issues within the CCC. Zimbabwean politics remains a complex and dynamic arena, and as the nation seeks stability and progress, addressing internal disputes with fairness and transparency is paramount.

Finance Ministry Says It’s Helping The Poor With Paltry $12 Monthly Payouts

The Zimbabwean Finance Ministry’s recent announcement of providing a mere $12 per month to impoverished citizens as part of the Emergency Social Cash Transfer (ESCT) program has come under intense scrutiny and criticism. The program, supposedly aimed at alleviating the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, is now being labeled as a mockery of poverty alleviation efforts.

The government’s media claims that 113,000 individuals in eight urban areas are benefiting from this program, which is administered through the Ministry of Public Service, Labour, and Social Welfare. While this may sound like a considerable number, the reality is grim.

Each beneficiary is receiving a paltry $12 per month, meant to cover at least four family members per household. To put this into perspective, $12 cannot even buy a single packet of mealie meal, a basic staple in Zimbabwean households. The amount is grossly inadequate to meet the most basic living expenses, especially considering the rising cost of living in the country.

Deputy Director of Family and Social Protection, Mr. Joseph Tirivavi, defended the program, stating that it targets vulnerable households, including those experiencing food scarcity, households with no able-bodied individuals aged 19 to 59, and those with chronically ill or disabled members. However, the $12 per month remains insufficient to make any meaningful impact on the lives of these households.

Critics argue that this initiative does not address the root causes of poverty and fails to provide any substantial relief to the vulnerable populations it claims to assist. With soaring inflation rates and economic challenges in Zimbabwe, the $12 monthly payout seems like a mere token gesture that falls far short of meeting the real needs of the people.

Zimbabweans are demanding better support from their government, and this revelation has sparked public outrage and calls for an immediate review of the ESCT program. Many believe that the Finance Ministry’s efforts to alleviate poverty are falling far short of what is necessary, leaving vulnerable citizens to struggle in dire economic conditions. The $12 monthly payout is now seen as a stark reminder of the urgent need for comprehensive and effective poverty alleviation measures in the country.

Invictus Energy Fails to Obtain A Single Sample of Highly Celebrated Oil Discovery

UPDATED AT 4PM 22 OCT 2023: Readers note- The Invictus Energy company has protested saying: “This story is highly premature and incorrect as we are currently still drilling. As stated in our release to the ASX on Friday available on our website, we are still drilling towards our total depth of 3,750m and once completed we will then attempt to retrieve a fluid sample via wireline which can only be run once drilling has concluded.”

Emmerson Mnangagwa announcing Invictus deal 2 years ago

The Australian energy exploration company, INVICTUS ENERGY, has encountered a setback in its quest to confirm a highly anticipated oil discovery in the northern region of Zimbabwe. The company, which had previously announced promising findings in its search for oil and gas, now faces hurdles in providing the crucial evidence needed to declare a commercial discovery.

INVICTUS ENERGY’s exploration efforts in Zimbabwe’s Cabora Bassa Basin have generated preliminary data supporting the existence of a viable petroleum system, encompassing active source rock and related oil and gas accumulations. The company has been actively drilling its second exploration well at the Mukuyu-2 site in the Mbire district, Mashonaland Central province, with the goal of reaching a depth of 3,750 meters within a targeted timeframe of 50 to 60 days.

A previous drilling endeavor in September of the previous year yielded positive results, reinforcing the presence of a functional hydrocarbons system in the prospective area. However, despite these encouraging findings, technical complications during the drilling process prevented INVICTUS ENERGY from recovering a fluid sample, a requirement imposed by Australian regulators, where the company is listed, to declare a commercial discovery.

Sample recovery is an essential procedure that allows stakeholders to assess the consistency of a portion of the object under investigation, determining its representativeness.

The potential commercial discovery of oil and gas in Zimbabwe carries significant implications. It could bring about energy security for a nation that has grappled with persistent power shortages, create jobs, stimulate new industries, and bolster export revenues. President Mnangagwa, during a development framework agreement signing event in March 2021, emphasized the multifaceted benefits of such a discovery, including electricity generation, liquid petroleum production, liquefied petroleum gas, fertilizer, and petrochemicals.

INVICTUS ENERGY has reported that the background gas at Mukuyu-2 surpasses that observed at Mukuyu-1, and heavier hydrocarbons have been detected, providing further evidence of an active petroleum system in the basin. Their Mukuyu conventional gas-condensate prospect is touted as the largest undrilled onshore prospect in Africa, with estimated reserves of over 20 trillion cubic feet and 845 million barrels on a gross mean unrisked basis.

The company expressed optimism about their Upper Angwa primary target, citing elevated gas readings, including heavier hydrocarbons and heightened LWD resistivity across the zones of interest. Resistivity logs, obtained through measurement tools, offer insights into a formation’s fluid saturation, rock type, porosity, fluid type, and fluid volume, which are crucial for identifying permeable areas and estimating porosity and fluid saturation in the formation.

The failure to recover a fluid sample is a significant setback for INVICTUS ENERGY, as the confirmation of a commercial discovery would have far-reaching consequences for Zimbabwe’s energy landscape and its economy. The company is likely to regroup and explore alternative approaches to provide the necessary evidence for their groundbreaking findings in the pursuit of energy security and economic growth.- state media/agencies

People’s Struggle Everyone’s Responsibility

By Robson Ruhanya

As the constitutional and political crisis deepens, citizens are running riot blaming CCC President Adv Nelson for failing to take action against the election rigging, arbitrary arrests, long pre-trial detentions of political leaders, activists, and human rights defenders such as Hon Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala, high levels of unemployment as well as the abuse of the fundamental universal basic freedoms enshrined in the 2013 Constitution. It must be clear to the citizenry that the national democratization process is not a CCC issue but a collective cause.

All hands on the deck! Where are school pupils who are victims of poor and suicidal policies in the education sector? We have heard of the troublesome CALA that has caused torture and suffering for both parents and learners. As a student of History, I laud more than 20,000 pupils who embraced dangerous freedom against apartheid on June 6, 1976. These pupils had the mettle and nerve to confront the problems facing them in schools after the illegal passing of the Bantu Education Act in 1953.

After getting inspiration from the vibrant Steve Biko’s Black Consciousness Movement, thousands of learners resident in Soweto and beyond displayed the valor to resist the declaration of Afrikaans and English as languages to be used as medium of instruction in black schools. High levels of human butchery were evidenced perpetrated by the Apartheid regime with hundreds left severely injured. The Soweto Uprising which was initiated by schoolchildren became the match stick that lit a bonfire! The independence of South Africa from apartheid was engineered by organic and pragmatic learners in high schools. Where are the schoolchildren in Zimbabwe? Are they ready to claim free and quality education in the motherland? School learners should come on board to win Zimbabwe for everyone!

Where are the educators in schools, universities, and colleges? Do we have professionals in the land between the Zambezi and Limpopo? What role are playing as nurses and doctors who are languishing in abject poverty when the belly politicians in ZANU-PF are consuming on their behalf? Since the introduction of the bond notes in 2016, we have witnessed hyperinflation eroding the workers’ savings and earnings yet no intellectual coordination in the working class. Visit all successful democratic revolutions undertaken across the globe and assess the significant role executed by the workers through their unions.

In the teaching fraternity, educators have been reduced to paupers. They receive slave wages yet are unprepared to confront the satanic regime demanding a living wage. All civil servants have been getting unsalted peanuts since 2016, it is quite perturbing that there is no single call from various unions to converge and face the diabolical Harare regime advocating for better livelihoods. At this juncture, we should see professionals mobilizing for peaceful action demanding the restoration of their dignity. Subcontracting the national democratic to CCC is a blunder. Instead of pursuing the gold mafia, it is ridiculous that poor teachers are falling victim to ZAAC as private lessons are prohibited regardless of the incapacity of the politically inept government to pay civil servants handsomely.

Where are the churches and their supposed role of calling dictators to order as they did during the liberation struggles around Africa? It is ridiculous that the current crop of church leaders have suddenly and shockingly joined the looting wagon. The role of the church has been magnificent in the past when open letters were published denouncing oppression and the gross abuse of human rights. We expect the churches to call a spade a spade amid rigged elections, politically motivated violence, and high social as well as economic decay due to corruption. Church leaders should desist from accepting bribes from the shake-shake building.

Where is Civic Society Zimbabwe? Following a sham election held on the 23rd of August condemned by all observer missions including SADC and the African Union, we expect all human rights defenders to amplify their clamor for legitimate results, a product of free, fair and credible elections. I would like take this opportunity to salute the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights who are always on their heels defending political prisoners. Some of them get incarcerated and tortured for representing their clients.

In the cases of the victimization of officers of the court, it is pathetic that lawyers who are the last line of defense are also persecuted by prosecution which I find bizarre and unacceptable. Prominent lawyer, Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala has endured state-sponsored incarceration at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison on trumped-up charges since 14 June 2022, Kudzai Kadzere was left with a broken arm, Obey Shava had his legs broken, Doug Coltart and Muchineripi endured prison cells for defending victims of state-engineered abductions. The Zimbabwe Law Society should stand firm in protecting the rights of lawyers in Zimbabwe. We anticipate more revolutionary action from lawyers in solidarity with the victimized.

Where is everybody? Citizens should organize and radicalize themselves for peaceful confrontation as enshrined on Section 59 of the supreme law of the country. All affected bonafide Zimbabweans must unite against political, social and economic decay promoted by those who exploit state apparatus as springboards for the primitive accumulation of wealth. School pupils, students, nurses, doctors, teachers, church leaders, business community, peasants, unemployed youths and all other civil servants must unite against those who eat for them. Zimbabwe is not a private property of ZANU-PF cronies, she belongs to all and sundry.

Citizens should have the unity and strength of purpose in the fight against ZANU-PF atheists. Like the Soweto Uprising of 1976, there is no struggle without bruises. Victory is certain with participatory democracy. Let’s all work towards a New Great Zimbabwe for everyone. I urge CCC president Advocate Nelson to lead us at the opportune time. Citizens must commit to pay the ultimate price to attain a complete change in Zimbabwe ??.

The struggle is won by a united, committed and dedicated front. The youths should save this country, what is needed is the commitment to.prosecute the national democratic struggle to its logical conclusion.

Man Caught With 93 Snakes

-Villager Arrested for Allegedly Keeping 93 Snakes in Binga, Matabeleland North Province

There was shock in Binga, Matabeleland North province, under the jurisdiction of Chief Pashu, a local villager has been apprehended for reportedly harboring a collection of 93 snakes in his granary. Million Mukombwe, a 47-year-old resident of Kamativi, allegedly maintained a peculiar menagerie that included pythons and spotted bush snakes. Mukombwe’s justification for this unconventional act was to employ the snakes to combat rats, termites, and small insects that posed a threat to his garden.

The bizarre discovery came to light when law enforcement officers, acting on a tip-off, arrived at Mukombwe’s property with the suspicion that he was cultivating marijuana (mbanje) in his garden. Subsequently, they uncovered an astonishing 197 marijuana plants, each approximately 29 centimeters in length. Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the incident.

“Villagers are in shock after the arrest of one of them because he was domesticating snakes in his granary,” noted Inspector Banda, underlining the astonishment in the local community.

Million Mukombwe recently made an appearance at the Hwange Magistrates Court, where he was remanded out of custody until October 26 for the continuation of his trial. Inspector Banda issued a stern warning to the public against keeping species protected by the law, highlighting the potential dangers and legal consequences.

“I would like to warn members of the public to resist this tendency of hunting animals or species because it is against the law of our country, and it will also lead to some people being injured by the same species. Actions like this result in a lack of trust among members of the community because traditionally, it’s unusual to find a person keeping snakes. Let us also stop farming and selling weed because it is illegal in this country,” emphasized Inspector Banda.

The incident in Binga has left the local community bewildered and serves as a reminder of the importance of abiding by wildlife protection laws and respecting legal boundaries.

Shadaya Knight Says Lupita Nyong’o Deluded To Divorce Hubby When She’s Past 40

Controversial Socialite Shadaya Knight Sparks Outrage with Controversial Comments on Lupita Nyong’o and Modern Relationships

By Showbiz Reporter | In a recent social media post, Shadaya Knight, known for her provocative statements and candid opinions, ignited a storm of controversy with her remarks about award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o and her views on modern relationships. Knight’s comments have been met with a strong backlash and have prompted a widespread debate on social media.

Knight asserted that Lupita Nyong’o, in her 40s, walking away from her relationship due to her partner’s infidelity, was, in her words, “peak female delusion.” She criticized what she described as the “sisterhood’s” support for such decisions, suggesting that there are no high-value men willing to partner with a 40-year-old woman.

The controversial socialite argued that many women today choose to leave their relationships rather than working on resolving issues because they believe that the grass is greener elsewhere. Knight cited the example of Enhle Mbali, the former wife of South African DJ Black Coffee, who, according to her, walked away from her marriage due to infidelity and ended up in an extramarital relationship.

Shadaya Knight went on to claim that modern women lack an understanding of male behavior, asserting that men are naturally polygamous and that infidelity is not necessarily a reflection of a woman’s worth or the state of the relationship. She argued that men have a biological urge to seek variety and satisfy their libidos, suggesting that the only way to prevent infidelity is by castration.

Furthermore, Knight highlighted what she saw as differences between men and women, arguing that it is unreasonable to hold men to the same fidelity standards as women. According to her, a woman’s fidelity is defined by sexual exclusivity to one man, while a man’s fidelity involves providing for, protecting, offering solutions, and engaging in sexual activity with his partner.

These comments have triggered a heated debate online, with many individuals and experts expressing their disagreement with Knight’s views. Advocates for healthy relationships argue that mutual trust, communication, and respect should be the foundation of any partnership, and walking away from a relationship due to infidelity is a valid choice. Many have also criticized Knight for perpetuating harmful stereotypes about gender and relationships.

In response to the controversy, Lupita Nyong’o has not issued a public statement. Still, her strong and independent portrayal as a successful actress and advocate for women’s rights has made her a role model for many women worldwide.

The debate ignited by Shadaya Knight’s comments underscores the ongoing discussions about gender roles, relationships, and societal expectations, emphasizing the importance of respectful dialogue and empathy in addressing these complex issues.

Soccer Star Hit With Ban

Argentina international and 2022 World Cup winner Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez has been hit with a two-year ban from playing football.

According to Spanish outlet Relevo, Gomez has been banned by the Spanish federation after failing a doping test during his time at Sevilla.

The forward, who recently moved from Sevilla to Monza in the Italian Serie A, failed the doping test in November 2022, before taking part in the World Cup won by his Argentina side.

The publication adds that the player’s defence for testing positive was that days before he had endured a night feeling ill, which led to him taking a syrup prescribed to one of his children – without prior consultation with the club’s doctors. He has the option to appeal the decision.

Gomez, 35, was informed about the suspension earlier this week.

As a result, the ex-Atalanta man will not be available against Roma in this weekend’s fixture. – Soccer24 News

Stciky fingered trio nabbed

In a recent court appearance before Kezi magistrate Busani Sibanda, three men faced charges of theft after being caught stealing scrap metal from a farm owned by the husband of a Member of Parliament.

Shelton Nyathi (20), Thulani Ngwenya (23) and Samuel Mugwagwa (37) appeared before Kezi resident magistrate Busani Sibanda facing theft charges.

Nyathi pleaded guilty to the charge while Ngwenya and Mugwagwa pleaded not guilty to the charge.

In their joint defence Ngwenya and Mugwagwa said Nyathi told them that the farm was owned by his late uncle and he had requested them to accompany him to collect scrap metal. As such the State failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt therefore after a full trial Ngwenya and Mugwagwa were not found guilty and they were acquitted.

Nyathi was found guilty and was sentenced to serve 24 months in jail.

However, 10 months were suspended on condition that within a period of five years he does not commit any offence that involves dishonesty and if convicted he would be sentenced without the option of a fine.

The remaining 14 months were suspended on condition that he performs 490 hours of community service at Kezi magistrate courts.

In sentencing him the magistrate noted that Nyathi had planned to steal from a farm which is owned by Member of Parliament (quota-system) Ross Moyo’s husband and Christopher Ncube who is the aide to his wife.

In mitigation Nyathi said he was an orphan and told court that he stays with his 74-year-old brother-in-law. What further mitigated him was that all the property which they were caught stealing was recovered.

Circumstances are that on 7 October the trio travelled from Kezi Business Centre and went to Ncube’s farm in a truck and were caught loading scrap metal onto a truck leading to their arrest.

Teething problems aside, AFL a welcome break

There is a new football competition in town; the African Football League officially starts off on October 20th 2023. It is four years since the idea was first floated and after many setbacks, opposition, financial drawbacks and counter thoughts, fans and clubs have a reason to celebrate African football again. Apart from the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederations Cup, the African Football League offers the opportunity to celebrate the talent, opportunities and diversity of the African game. With Asia revitalized after massive transfer dealings in the Saudi Arabia and Chinese leagues, the MLS attracting Lionel Messi and some of the game’s top stars, Africa is also making her moves. The gaming industry will definitely follow this trend and we expect bookies like Hollywoodbets, a leader in South Africa, to put this into consideration. With a top South African side, Mamelodi Sundowns, set to take part in the inaugural African Football League, we can expect a well packaged Hollywoodbets for South Africans. The site as is, has some excellent football odds, bet builder features and a guarantee of fast withdrawals while fans will also benefit from no-deposit bonuses and can also access here a well worked global rating and review for Hollywoodbets by Sportytrader. There is a clear break from the past as African football positions itself.

New champions

In about three weeks there will be a new champion in Africa, the AFL champion. The winner of the final which will be held on November 11th 2023 will pocket a reported €10 million. This is a massive boost for the game, and a show of great confidence especially after CAF, the body that oversees football on the continent, reported a loss of about €15 million last year. That loss though, saw the reduction of teams to take part from 24 initially to the current eight, which in itself sparked controversy. Those are just some of the murky waters African football has had to grace. The fact that the tournament starts at the quarterfinal stage has raised questions about its quality and ability to lift African football. However, the CAF hierarchy believes this is good for the inaugural competition and backs it to grow. It was the same scenario with the African Cup of Nations too, growing from eight teams and is now a list as one of the major tournaments in the world football calendar.

Long road

It has indeed been a long road getting this tournament underway and CAF will take a pat on the back after working out a means with national federations to make it work. There is representation from all regions of the continent in the competition which for the first edition takes a knockout format. North Africa, as expected, takes the giant share of representation with three of the eight teams coming from the region. Record African champions Al Ahly from Egypt lead this group that also has Esperance de Tunis of Tunisia and Wydad Casablanca of Morocco. In the draws released earlier, Tanzanian giants Simba SC will start it off with Al Ahly at home while Sundowns will be away to Petro Atletico of Angola. Wydad Casablanca and Nigeria’s Enyimba Fc clash in the other game as Congolese giants TP Mazembe face Espérance de Tunis.

Armed gang storm prophet’s shrine

Mashurugwi machete

By A Correspondent- In a shocking turn of events, a prophet from Bulawayo found himself in a life-threatening situation when a gang armed with pistols and machetes stormed his church service, threatening his life. The incident took place in West Nicholson, Matabeleland South province, last Sunday, leaving the congregation in a state of panic.

Archbishop Emmanuel Mutumwa, the leader of the Johanne Masowe eChishanu, became the target of the eight-member gang, believed to be friends of a recently deceased gold miner from Gwanda. The attack was reportedly motivated by revenge after the prophet had prophesied the gold miner’s demise.

According to BMetro, the gang interrupted the service and demanded that Archbishop Mutumwa end it immediately, claiming they didn’t want innocent church-goers caught in the crossfire. When questioned about the sudden request, one of the gang members menacingly pointed a gun at the archbishop’s face, while the others armed themselves with machetes.

Sensing the imminent danger, Archbishop Mutumwa swiftly fled in his vehicle. The gang pursued him for approximately 30 kilometers, continuously threatening him and attempting to force him into a collision by directing him towards a bridge.

After a harrowing ordeal, the archbishop sought assistance from police officers and soldiers manning a roadblock near Makhado Business Centre. He shared his terrifying experience with them, leading to police officers from Gwanda Town escorting him safely to Bulawayo.

The archbishop now fears for his life, as the suspects have allegedly made threats to eliminate him. Additionally, some church members were harassed by the gang, accusing them of supporting the prophet. Consequently, Archbishop Mutumwa has gone into hiding following his report to the police.

When contacted for comment, a visibly shaken Archbishop Mutumwa confirmed the incident, expressing gratitude for his safety and the lack of injuries among the congregation. He emphasized the importance of non-violence and mutual respect for differing beliefs and opinions.

Cattle thief killed

The police report states that the suspects tied the victim, Simon Tsuvuka (35), with barbed wire before subjecting him to physical assault. Allegedly accusing him of stealing three cattle, the gang proceeded to strike him with switches. Tragically, the victim lost his life on the spot.

He left the ZNA on 29 May 2019 to become Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Tanzania.

USD25mln-Rich Fake Stands Land Baron Blames Her Own Victims

S_exual harassment investigations for ZBC bosses

The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) is currently investigating allegations of sexual harassment involving senior managers within the organization.

Robson Mhandu, the Director for radio services, and Scott “DJ Scott” Matengambiri, the station manager of Power FM, have been suspended following accusations of demanding sexual favours from their subordinates.

In a statement released on Wednesday, ZBC confirmed that two reports of sexual harassment were received in September 2023. The broadcasting corporation has initiated investigations into these allegations and stated that disciplinary processes are underway. They assured stakeholders that the outcomes of the investigations will be communicated in due course.

Recordings and WhatsApp messages have emerged involving Robson Mhandu, known by his totem name “Shumba,” and a female employee who was seeking a transfer from Bulawayo to Harare. The evidence suggests Mhandu’s involvement in the alleged misconduct.

Scott, on the other hand, has been accused of pressuring a female subordinate to engage in oral sex as a condition for securing her job.

Regarding the sexual assault charges, ZBC has cleared Albert Chekayi, the news and current affairs director, and Effort Magoso, the news bulletins manager, stating that no such reports were ever recorded or received against them.

The corporation expressed concern over the allegations circulating on social media and emphasized that ZBC employees are expected to adhere to a code of conduct, with zero tolerance for sexual harassment in the workplace.

As the investigations proceed, ZBC aims to address the serious allegations of sexual harassment and ensure a safe and respectful working environment for its employees.

Robbers attack businessman at own gate

By A Correspondent- In a shocking incident, three armed robbers targeted a businessman at his residence in Mahatshula suburb, allegedly making off with US$6,000 and P110,000.

They also reportedly gave a traditional healer a sum of P1,800 as a gesture of gratitude. The accused individuals, Elvis Charapuka (38), Mlingiseli Sibanda (44), and Bhekimpilo Ncube (35), recently stood trial before Bulawayo regional magistrate Dambudzo Malunga. The trio pleaded not guilty and were remanded out of custody to 25 October.

During the trial, the businessman, George Kudya (42), who also serves as the managing director for Star Distributors, took the stand for cross-examination. Kudya recounted the incident, stating that on the fateful day, he arrived home before 7 pm. As he was getting out of his Toyota Hilux, Charapuka, Sibanda, and Ncube swiftly approached him, forcibly restraining him while brandishing a firearm.

According to Kudya’s testimony, the assailants physically assaulted him and demanded money. Fearing for his life, he surrendered US$6,000. Subsequently, they proceeded to his vehicle and seized P110,000 before fleeing in their own car.

A traditional healer, Gogo Otilia Murombedzi, also testified in court, revealing that Charapuka used to visit her at her residence in Cowdray Park suburb for consultations and to acquire good luck charms. She confirmed that Charapuka had given her P1,800 as a token of appreciation. However, she explained that she could not use the money as her ancestral spirits communicated to her in a dream, warning her that the funds were tainted.

Concillia Ncube represented the State in the proceedings.

Mthuli: Sanyatwe’s Short Walk Into First Street On 1 Aug Crashed Economy By USD16bln, How Much Will Be Lost After 2 Weeks?

By Business Reporter | ANALYSIS | ZimEye | In a move that has sent shockwaves through Zimbabwe, Anselem Sanyatwe has been appointed as the Zim National Army Commander, a decision that has resurrected the haunting memories of August 1, 2018. On that fateful day, Sanyatwe’s entrance into Harare’s First Street caused a staggering economic loss of USD 16 billion, sending the nation’s financial stability into a tailspin.

The mere mention of his name brings back memories of that tumultuous day when a single stroll of Sanyatwe leading less than 20 soldiers, had such a catastrophic impact on Zimbabwe’s economy. His actions led to a loss of confidence in the country’s stability, causing investors to flee, and the stock market to plummet. This economic catastrophe still reverberates through Zimbabwe’s history.

Now, with Sanyatwe back in command and at the helm of an army of approximately 50,000 soldiers, Zimbabweans are left to ponder the dire economic consequences that may follow. While it’s difficult to predict the exact outcome, the implications are staggering when considering the economic turmoil caused by his previous involvement.

The Finance Ministry, in an unprecedented disclosure reveals that Sanyatwe’s entrance into First Street on that infamous day in 2018 resulted in the loss of a mind-boggling USD 16 billion in investment money. This revelation is part of the Finance Ministry’s assessment report submitted to a panel tasked with investigating Sanyatwe’s actions. It’s worth noting that these actions were also strongly condemned by the United Nations, after the Motlanthe Commision.

The question that now hangs over Zimbabwe is this: if one day under Anselem Sanyatwe commanding less than 20 soldiers made the nation lose USD 16 billion, what economic horror may unfold over two weeks with him leading a force of 50,000 soldiers? Part of the statement is below (pic)

While the exact mathematical calculation of the potential economic fallout remains uncertain, the implications are deeply troubling. The return of a figure associated with such a colossal financial disaster raises serious concerns. Investors may become wary once again, foreign aid and assistance might dwindle, and economic growth could come to a grinding halt.

As Zimbabwe embarks on this new chapter with Sanyatwe as the National Army General, the nation remains on edge, keenly aware of the potential economic turmoil that could follow. The specter of August 1, 2018, continues to haunt the country, and Zimbabweans can only hope that lessons have been learned, and history does not repeat itself.

Mnangagwa Places 13 Critical Laws Under His Private Control

In a recent and significant move, President Emmerson Mnangagwa of the Republic of Zimbabwe has taken direct control over 13 critical Acts (laws). These Acts, including the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, Interception of Communications Act, and the Sovereign Wealth Fund Act, have been placed under the personal administration of the President.

This development is outlined in Statutory Instrument 189 of 2023, titled “Assignment of Functions (His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe) Notice, 2023.” The document cites constitutional authority for the President’s decision, specifically referencing section 104(1) of the Constitution in conjunction with section 37(2) of the Interpretation Act [Chapter 1:01].

Under this new directive, President Mnangagwa has reserved for himself both the administration of the specified Acts and the functions vested in the President by any Act, unless those functions have been delegated to another Minister.

The notice also repeals a previous Assignment of Functions (His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe) Notice, 2018, as published in Statutory Instrument 212 of 2018.

The list of Acts now under the direct control of President Mnangagwa is as follows:

1. Anti-Corruption Commission Act [Chapter 9:22] (Act No. 13 of 2004)
2. Commissions of Inquiry Act [Chapter 10:07]
3. Emergency Powers Act [Chapter 11:04]
4. Honours and Awards Act [Chapter 10:11]
5. Interception of Communications Act [Chapter 11:20] (No. 6 of 2007)
6. Prevention of Corruption Act [Chapter 9:16]
7. Presidential Pension and Retirement Benefits Act [Chapter 2:05]
8. Presidential Powers (Temporary Measures) Act [Chapter 10:20]
9. Presidential Salary and Allowances Act [Chapter 2:06]
10. Radiation Protection Act [Chapter 15:15] (Act No. 5 of 2004)
11. Sovereign Wealth Fund Act [Chapter 22:20] (Act No. 7 of 2014)
12. Zimbabwe Independent Complaints Commission Act [Chapter 10:34] (No. 5 of 2022)
13. Zimbabwe National Security Council Act, 2023 (Act No. 1 of 2023)

This action signifies a significant consolidation of power within the presidency, raising questions and discussions about the implications of this shift in Zimbabwe’s governance structure. It remains to be seen how these changes will impact the enforcement and implementation of these laws.- Agencies

Qoki Slapped With Lawsuit By Patel Properties Amid Fraud Allegations

  • Scam Involving Unsuspecting Investors Leaves Many in Financial Distress

By Nancy Ndaba | In an ongoing and intricate investigation, a growing number of unsuspecting investors find themselves entangled in a complex web of deceit and financial distress, allegedly orchestrated by Qoki’s founder, Sithule Tshuma.

Sithule Tshuma

The latest chapter in this evolving saga reveals a staggering $1.7 million deal for the acquisition of a run-down Vegetable Market located at 53 Robert Mugabe Way and No. 8A 4th & Robert Mugabe Way, both owned by Patel Properties. As investigators delve deeper into this complex narrative, Tshuma’s involvement becomes increasingly apparent, and the full scope of the deception and its far-reaching repercussions continues to unravel, leaving countless investors searching for answers in an ever-evolving and increasingly bewildering tale.

Sithule Tshuma, known for her fraudulent land and project schemes, organized this deal, advising investors, to pay a deposit then then they would apply for a loan as Qoki Zindlovukazi Ltd, mainly  through Stanbic  Bank to fund the remainder of the purchase price. However, Stanbic Bank’s thorough investigation led to the rejection of Qoki’s loan application for various concerning reasons, exposing the inadequacy of due diligence.

“Out of a total  of £1.7m  only $352 328.00 has been paid to Patel so far, it is worthy to note that Sithule’s advice to the women was to apply for loans via Stanbic Bank to pay  the difference of $1.347 675 million,” says an insider. “However, following Stanbic ‘s thorough investigations, they declined Qoki’s loan application for various concerning reasons.”

In response to a breach of contract, Patel Properties has sought legal action against Qoki Zindlovukazi Investment PVT Ltd, a company owned by Sithule Tshuma, Karen Kumalo, Bridget Dube, and Nompilo Moyo. Several other lawsuits, including Nondwene 1 and Nondwene 2, are currently pending against Qoki.

In another shocking revelation, during a dispute regarding Nondwene 2, where Sithule had been denying that the land was gazetted by the government and that there were court proceedings, when shown evidence and asked for refunds for the roads payments Sithule responded with apparent indifference, stating, “‘Aaahhh, don’t let emotions get the better side of you. Until we all come together and discuss the way forward, sizadinda one ndawo (we will go in circles). You need to calm down because I don’t have your money…'”

It has come to light that the main objective of these projects was seemingly to enrich Sithule, her accomplices, and  their lawyer Zibusiso Charles Ncube. Reportedly, on nearly every project, Zibusiso Charles Ncube pocketed a minimum of $30,000 from ‘buyer’ alone, please note that he represented both buyer and seller in most projects. The origin of these funds, believed to be laundered from the UK, raises questions regarding tax evasion and potential financial improprieties.

Unbeknownst to the investors, the projects served as a means for Sithule to inflate prices and exploit the investors. Trends suggest that Sithule, particularly with the assistance of her lawyer, Zibusiso Charles Ncube, orchestrated this grand scam, continuing to draw unsuspecting investors into this apparent bottomless pit.

When confronted about refunding investors for non-delivery of the purchased products and services, Sithule frequently resorts to bullying and selectively targets specific individuals, purportedly in response to what she claims is a ‘soft coup’ within her privately owned company, Qoki. This approach aligns with her well-documented narcissistic personality, as she appears to revel in a punitive strategy aimed at controlling and manipulating the situation, rather than genuinely addressing the legitimate concerns of her investors. Additionally, Sithule has been known to play the blame game, often shifting responsibility onto the investors for the failure of projects, despite the unfounded nature of these allegations. These actions have left investors dismayed, as there still seems to be no credible basis for asserting a ‘soft coup’ within a company that already carries a dubious reputation in the eyes of many.

Despite the mounting legal challenges and women demanding refunds due to deception and fraudulent conveyancing processes, Sithule and her accomplices seem undeterred. One Victor Masuku, a Town Planning Director of Sindaku Developers (PVT) Ltd, a company deeply involved in the projects, faces scrutiny for his roles in land scouting, design, town planning, and construction, raising questions about procurement processes.

UK banks and financial institutions have identified Sithule’s operations as scandalous “Authorised Push Payment scam.” It has been revealed that Sithule operated her businesses in the UK illegally, as she was not a registered investment professional. Her ability to collect over $25 million under the scrutiny of HMRC, banks, and fraud departments has raised significant concerns, leading to the freezing of her bank accounts.

In the midst of a series of concerning events, ethically Sithule should neither be practising  as a Staff Nurse nor  managing her agency, Healthcare OS Recruitment Limited, situated at 8 Goat Willow Road, Manchester, M9 7GQ, in the United Kingdom. This situation prompts a critical examination of the oversight and regulatory measures implemented by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Simultaneously, the disconcerting unfolding of Zibusiso’s misconduct occurring right under the vigilant gaze of the Law Society of Zimbabwe and various anti-corruption mechanisms brings to the fore serious questions regarding the efficacy and thoroughness of these institutional bodies.

The repercussions of this elaborate scam have been devastating for the women who invested their family and retirement  savings, leading to broken marriages, mental health issues, depression, family violence, and financial distress. Sithule’s response to these concerns has been described as defensive and cold-hearted.

Many affected individuals have reported the fraud to various authorities in an effort to fully address this issue. The public is urged to exercise caution and avoid investing in unregistered companies like Qoki. Authorities encourage people to report Sithule and her accomplices for any illegal practices within their communities.

Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala A Pillar Of Citizens Struggle

SolidarityWithJobSikhala on #WiwaWednesday, CCC Namibia on board!

18 October 2023

The National Democratic Revolutionaries are missing the vibrant, organic, and pragmatic change champion, Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala who has endured more than 15 months caged at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison on trumped-up charges.

Citizens in Namibia are curious to know the whereabouts of Moreblessing Ali’s murderer, Pius Jamba Mukandi after his arrest. We did not hear anything after his prosecution! Is he still incarcerated or it was a catch-and-release since the murderer is a ZANU-PF activist? It is now imperative to actively demand justice for both Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala and the deceased Moreblessing Ali who is yet to be buried since her gruesome murder last year in May. Progressive citizens across the globe should amplify their voices demanding justice, freedom, and equality.

Sikhala and Ali’s families have endured enough physical and emotional torture from this satanic regime. Let’s brace for dangerous freedom against injustice and arbitrary arrests of political leaders and activists. It is not a crime to represent the Ali family. CCC Namibia believes that lawyers are the last line of defense but when the same lawyers are incarcerated for more than a year, it boggles the mind. We demand an independent judiciary that does not take instructions from the desperate and illegitimate regime.

Namibia district is delighted at the revolutionary gesture to donate in solidarity with Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala as he continues to languish in jail without bail since the 14th of June 2022. The political prisoner deserves our support because as the breadwinner, his family has suffered from a lack of different fundamentals. We must donate material and financial resources to the prisoner of conscience to boost his revolutionary spirit. Let’s mobilize for a peaceful protest demanding a constitution with constitutionalism in Zimbabwe.

Bail is a constitutional right enshrined in the 2013 Constitution! Sikhala has been arbitrarily arrested more than 66 times but was never convicted which epitomizes the weaponization of the judiciary to silence dissent. As we demand fresh elections, let’s not forget the victims of persecution by prosecution. Ali’s family deserves justice! ZANU-PF must respect the sanctity of life. We are sick and tired of political persecution by the clueless regime, the citizenry deserves better.

Sikhala’s ill health is also worrisome and infuriating. Health is a basic right regardless of any circumstances hence the dire need to ensure his health safety in prison. There is great suspicion that our vibrant was poisoned by this politically inept Harare regime to eliminate him. This must be resisted with equal measure! Job Saro remains innocent until proven guilty by a competent court of law.

Citizens should resist illegitimate regimes that subvert the will of the masses. The people of Zimbabwe need to embrace participatory democracy to remove an illegitimate government announced by Zec on the 26th of August 2023. We demand fresh elections!

Notorious 45 Degree Soldier Appointed Army Commander

Controversial Appointment of Anselem Sanyatwe as Commander of Zimbabwe National Army.

Brig Ancelem Sanyatwe

By Farai D Hove | ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed Anselem Sanyatwe, the implicated leader of the 1 August 2018 coup, as the new head of the Zimbabwe National Army. This decision has raised eyebrows and sparked outrage as Sanyatwe had not yet answered to the demands of the commission that investigated his involvement in the military coup against opposition leader Nelson Chamisa.

During the events of 1 August 2018, which were marred by violence and claims of election interference, Sanyatwe and soldiers under his command were accused of changing election results through a deployment of troops. The commission found Sanyatwe and others liable for these actions, yet he had not faced any legal consequences.

Sanyatwe is infamous for his claim that soldiers who shot six people during the 1 August 2018 incident did so at a precise 45-degree angle, a statement that further fueled public outrage.

In a statement released on Friday, the Office of the President and Cabinet announced President Mnangagwa’s decision, citing constitutional provisions for the appointment. The outgoing Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army, Lieutenant General David Sigauke, has retired from the position.

This appointment has ignited controversy and raised questions about accountability and justice in Zimbabwe, as Sanyatwe takes the reins of the nation’s military despite his involvement in the contentious events of 2018. Public reaction and international response to this decision are expected to be significant in the coming days.

Mlauzi In Ignominy

Credit :Soccer24 News

In 2016, Shadreck Mlauzi proudly stepped on Brazilian soil carrying the hopes an entire nation.

He guided Zimbabwe’s senior women’s national soccer team —the Mighty Warriors, to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

Mlauzi became the first ever coach to take a Zimbabwe national soccer team to a global tournament.

His charges also became the first team to represent the country at the Olympics in a team sport in 26 years.

So when Mlauzi arrived in the biggest city in South Ameria —Rio, he ought to have been a proud man.

When he stepped onto the Corinthians Arena pitch for Zimbabwe’s Group F opener against Germany, Mlauzi, naturally, must have felt fulfilled.

But just just seven years after that walk with pride in Brazil, which earned him the respect of the entire nation, the soft-spoken coach had another walk this week —a walk of shame.

Mlauzi was at the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing assult and indicent assault charges.

The coach allegedly forcibly grabbed the shoulders of a female member of the Mighty Warriors technical staff.

The complaint also states that also “tried to kiss her (the complainant) without her consent” and “demanded to have his body massaged via a WhatsApp call and asked for sexual intimacy.”

When he arrived at the Magistrates’ Court clad in a blue jacket, the look on Mlauzi’s face summarized what the situation was —a walk of shame.-Soccer24 News

Mighty Warriors Receive Bonuses

Mighty Warriors have received bonuses from ZIFA following their participation in the 2023 COSAFA Women’s Championship.

The Zimbabwean national women’s team finished fourth at the tournament despite having spent the past two years without playing football.

The Shadreck Mlauzi’s charges have received over US$2,000 each in daily allowances, winning bonuses and appearance fees.

This is the only money they will receive as there’s no COSAFA prize money.

The regional football body anounced this week that the tournament had no sponsors and they only bore the costs of hosting it.

Only individual award winners were given prize money, with Mighty Warriors goalkeeper Cynthia Shonga receiving R20, 000 (about $1,050)for the best goalkeeper award.-Soccer24 News

Married Pastor Sadly Leaks Intimate WhatsApp Audios Onto Church Group

Scandal Rocks Church Community as Reverend Oscar Mukanahana’s Tragic End Unveiled

By Dorrothy Moyo | Methodist Pastor Reverend Oscar Mukanahana, a respected marriage figure within the church community, has reportedly taken his own life by consuming rat poison, locally known as “mushonga wemakonzo.” This heart-wrenching act comes after a series of intimate audio recordings between the reverend and an unnamed girlfriend were mistakenly shared on a church group, subsequently spreading like wildfire across social media platforms.

Dear Colleagues In Ministry, It is with heavy heart to announce to you the untimely death of our Beloveth District Superintendent Rev Oscar Mukahanana of the Harare East District. The Office of the Bishop shall be informing the church of developments and funeral arrangements. As a Church, you are being cordially requested to support the Mukahanana family through your prayer. Yours Sincerely Bishop’s Office- Methodist Church

The leaked audio recordings have caused a storm of controversy and scandal, shaking the foundations of the church congregation. In one of the audios, Rev. Mukanahana is heard breathing heavily after an intense sexual encounter, making explicit remarks about the timing of their intimacy. He is heard saying, “ndaputitsa munhu akuda kuenda,” which translates to “I just had sex with you when you were about to go on your monthly menstrual periods.”

In a surprising twist, the woman in the recording responds by saying, “ndanga ndava virgin,” before laughing and revealing that her menstrual cycle was scheduled to start the following day.

The audios have not only exposed the reverend’s private affairs but have also raised questions about his conduct as a spiritual leader within the community. The scandal has sent shockwaves throughout the congregation, leaving many in disbelief and outrage.

Prominent socialite Patience Mangezi commented on the situation, emphasizing the importance of discretion in intimate relationships. She stated, “We urge lovers to put away any recording devices when they are playing the hide a sausage game.”

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the consequences that can arise from a lack of privacy in today’s digital age. It has left both the church community and the public grappling with the tragic loss of Reverend Oscar Mukanahana and the controversy surrounding his final moments.

Lightning Kills 4 Minors

BUHERA-Four minors died after the burning roof of a thatched room they were sleeping in collapsed after being struck by lightning.
The incident happened around 2 am on Monday at Wadzenenga Village under Chief Nyashanu in Buhera. Neither of the minors was older than ten years old.

Manicaland Police Spokesperson Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the unfortunate incident to the Chipinge Times.

He said Evernice Takaedzwa (31) slept in the same room as her four children. She woke up to find her roof on fire after being struck by lightning.

She ran out of the house and called her neighbours to help her put out the fire. She left her children sleeping in the room.

Conrad Muchena (54) came. The roof collapsed before they took the children out. They attempted to put out the fire using water and sand to no avail.

Muchena gained entry into the room after knocking down some bricks and retrieved the bodies.

Mnangagwa Panics Chamisa Threats

By-The government has panicked threats by the opposition CCC to hold protests Monday in Bulawayo and directed the police to stop the planned march.

CCC had planned to protest against the dismissal of the party councillors from Bulawayo City Council on Monday.

The Nelson Chamisa-led party said the demonstration was called to protest “an unfair election and the failure to respect the people’s votes through illegal recalls of elected representatives.”

CCC intended to hold a “peaceful demonstration” to petition the Minister of State and Devolution for Bulawayo Province at Mhlahlandlela Government Complex on 23 October from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Under the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act (MOPO), Organisers of public gatherings are required to notify the police and the police can either give them the green light to continue or prohibit the planned gathering.

In a letter to conveners of the protest, dated 18 October 2023, Chief Superintendent Vusumuzi Nkomo confirmed receiving the CCC’s notification on 16 October but said it (the notification), did not comply with certain provisions of the MOPO Act.

Chief Superintendent Nkomo, however, did not explain which provisions the notification did not meet.

In response to the banning of the planned protest, CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi wrote on X:

We want to demonstrate our commitment to the law and we will exhaust every channel permissible in a democratic society.

When all has failed, we will then come to you- The Citizens- to say Citizens, we have done everything permissible in a democratic society, it’s OVER to you now, to take matters into your own hands and liberate your country.

We will no longer be responsible or answerable from then on. This country will be freed, order, sanity and normality will be restored soon.

Since its formation in early 2022, the CCC claims over 100 of its meetings, including campaign rallies, have been banned by the police.

Another Victory For ZEP Holders

By- In South Africa, Pretoria High Court this week dismissed Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi’s application in which he was requesting permission to appeal a decision made by a court regarding the termination of Zimbabwe Exemption Permits.

The court had previously ruled that Motsoaledi’s decision to terminate the permits without proper consultation was unlawful and unconstitutional.

The minister sought leave to appeal the court’s judgments, arguing that they set dangerous precedents. The Department of Home Affairs disagreed with the court’s findings on the applicability of certain sections of the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act. The minister also claimed the matter involved the separation of powers, but the court deemed his grounds for appeal flawed.

The court had extended the permits for 12 months, from 28 June, pending a fair process that includes public participation. The court also ordered that ZEP holders should be allowed to enter or leave South Africa without being treated differently under immigration laws.

Motsoaledi’s application for leave to appeal was, however, dismissed because he did not provide sufficient evidence in the review proceedings, News24 reported. The court emphasized that their order was temporary relief and not a substitution order. The ruling suggests that ZEPs may be extended beyond 2023, providing further relief for Zimbabwean nationals in South Africa.

The Zimbabwean Exemption Permit Visa (ZEP) was initially established by the South African Government in 2009 to address the significant influx of Zimbabweans. The permit granted certain exemptions from the Immigration and Refugee Acts. In November 2021, the South African Government announced the discontinuation of the ZEP but provided a 12-month grace period until its expiration on December 31, 2021. Various organizations, including the Helen Suzman Foundation (HSF), went to court to contest the termination of the ZEP. As a result, the court ordered a temporary extension of the ZEP program prompting Motsoaledi to appeal.

Tragedy as lightning kills 4 siblings

By A Correspondent- Four siblings were burnt to death after a grass-thatched hut they were sleeping in was struck by a bolt of lightning in Buhera District on 16 October.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident which occurred around 2 AM at Hara Village in Murambinda. He said:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the death of four siblings, Wilfred Hara (9 months), Melinda Hara (5), Michael Hara (5), and Marvis Hara (11) after the thatched hut they were sleeping in with their mother, Evernice Takaedzwa (31) was struck by a bolt of lightning resulting in the hut catching fire on 16th October 2023 at around 0200 hours at Hara Village, Murambinda, Buhera.

Evernice Takaedzwa escaped and sought assistance from neighbours while the victims were trapped inside the hut. Villagers failed to put out the fire resulting in the victims being burnt to death in the inferno.

The bodies were later retrieved from the hut through an opening created on the wall.

Asst Comm Nyathi said on the same day, in Chireya, Gokwe District, a male infant, Elvis Sikhosana (2) was killed by a hailstorm. He added:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is deeply saddened by the loss of life. As the rainy season approaches, we implore the public to follow lightning safety tips such as avoiding being in open spaces and hiding under tall structures like trees while it is raining.

Gvt Fails to contain brain drain

By A Correspondent- Government has unwittingly admitted failure to contain the brain drain mostly in the public sector.

The brain drain has been high, particularly in the health and education sectors where professionals are earning paltry salaries of less than US$300 plus a local currency component.

Speaking in Parliament, Higher and Tertiary Education minister Aaron Murwira on Wednesday struggled to answer questions on how government plans to resolve the brain drain. Murwira said what Zimbabwe is facing is no longer a brain drain but rather brain circulation

“We will continue cooking our people in our higher and tertiary education institutions.  Hativapedzi, ticharamba tichi trainer vanhu to the extent that these days what they call brain drain is actually brain circulation because we can still use our people wherever they are,” he said.

Murwira admitted that most graduates were also leaving the country or roaming the streets without jobs.

“Sometimes we have been confronted with a question which says, why are you training them when they are going to the streets?  They will not go to the street when they have the correct design of education,” he said.

Also, how to provide them with the venture fund so that they have the finances.  So, it tells us of a whole new philosophy of how we want our country to be today and into the future.  We shall not construct people who work for other people.  We will construct people who work for their country, for themselves.”

A recent Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency third quarter labour force survey report released this week showed that unemployment had increased to 21%, with national unemployment now standing at 47,8%.

“‘We will train people and we are also changing the philosophy of why we go to school.  We go to school to be trained to be able to do what we were trained for.  We go to school in order to be able to use our knowledge and skills and attitudes to start new enterprises.  We go to school not to be used by the ones who are already established in industry.  We go to school in order to use ourselves to work for ourselves,” Murwira said.

Recent data from South Africa also revealed a staggering increase in Zimbabwean immigrants, reaching 1,01 million in 2022, up from 672 308 in 2011.

“This is a deep philosophy which diverts from the philosophy of going to school to be employed by the colonial master, kuzvishandira, kwete kushandiswa.  It, therefore, means what we are talking about in terms of brain drain; sometimes people call it brain drain.  Brain drain assumes that the pot which is cooking people has stopped cooking,” Murwira said.

Mudenda’s Partisanship & Tshabangu’s Borrowed Robes Laid Bare!

By Brighton Mutebuka

  1. He receives the letter of recalls from Tafadzwa Manyika, he remains silent while pretending that he has not received it.
  2. The reality is likely to be that he, i.e. Mudenda, sought instructions from the “real” Constitution, the one & only 1st Secretary & President of ZANU PF on the way forward.
  3. There was also silence when he received correspondence from @nelsonchamisa , the leader of @CCCZimbabwe
, who is also a fellow Lawyer / Advocate and thus colleague of Mudenda from a Professional Conduct & Ethics point of view (via the Law Society of Zimbabwe).
  4. Meanwhile, predictably, there have been no developments following the Police Report filed by CCC against Tshabangu.
  5. If you look at these developments in isolation, you will miss what is actually taking place, so I will break it down here.
  6. It’s not a coincidence that Tafadzwa Manyika’s ZANU PF recalls’ letter & Chamisa’s letters have been ignored by Mudenda while Tshabangu’s has been entertained.
  7. It’s also not a coincidence that there have been no developments in the ZRP Police Report against Tshabangu.
  8. The system closes rank in such a situation. All activities which help the state to destroy the opposition are allowed to proceed smoothly & anything which helps the opposition faces inexplicable obstacles (attributable to behind the scenes manoeuvring.)
  9. If Mudenda was not partisan, he would have written a courtesy letter to Chamisa / CCC acknowledging his correspondence & stating what his position is. That is what a professional Speaker of Parliament does, or even one good at pretending to be so.
  10. He would also do the same in respect of Tafadzwa Manyika’s letter as he would be desperate to show that Parliament is not partisan & there was a compelling reason why it is not being actioned given the explanations previously given that he is simply a facilitator.
  11. Given the seriousness of the situation, the Police would also have been inclined to give updates on the Report that they received and the way forward.
  12. So in this case, the orchestration or choreography is betrayed by the conspiracy of silence & inaction from two different state institutions, the Police & Speaker of Parliament.
  13. Tshabangu will use terror to seek submission from any CCC MPs who are desperate for trinkets. It’s from those potential submissions that he will seek to profit & then manufacture non-existent legitimacy.
  14. He has thus far sought to deceive those who are naive into believing that he is raising genuine grievances which have got resonance through exploiting existing fault lines in CCC such as the claimed imposition of candidates, divisions amongst leaders and the claimed absence of structures & a Constitution.
  15. By now it should be public knowledge that Tshabangu is the regime’s proxy. The regime will facilitate each & every move he makes while thwarting each response CCC will seek to make including via the Judiciary.
  16. There is no credible attempt at reforming CCC by a genuine member which takes the course of making choices which only benefit ZANU PF & the regime while destroying CCC. That is another red flag!
  17. By now it is clear that Tshabangu can only be defeated through closing ranks amongst the CCC Parliamentary & Local Government cohort and a long overdue political response to the electoral heist. Any division will be ruthlessly exploited.
  18. The concern is that the responses that have been given so far by Prof Welshman Ncube & Tendai Biti to the saga have been underwhelming and not inspired any confidence that they have got fire in their bellies to defend CCC to the hilt.
  19. Given the threat posed by Tshabangu, you would have thought that they would have come out all guns blazing and shown more vigour in either disowning or exposing Tshabangu and defending CCC & Chamisa. There is really no point in appearing to back Chamisa & then deliver unconvincing responses in deeds & words when asked about this.
  20. To simply state that “this has got nothing to do with me” is lamentably weak and prone to setting the proverbial cat among pigeons. Both responses clearly stand out to the politically discerning. Only time will tell whether they are simply lapses in political judgment or there is more to it. Either way, it would appear that their political fates are likely to have been sealed, barring the unexpected.

Woman in soup over false r_ape charges

By A Correspondent- A Harare man yesterday accused his estranged wife of trying to ruin his life by laying false charges of sexually abusing their four-year-old daughter.

This emerged at the Harare Civil Court where Munyaradzi Musarira from Kuwadzana was seeking a protection order against ex-wife Tecla Chinyoka.

Musarira told the court that Chinyoka had terminated their marriage and left him with their minor children.

He accused her of filing false rape allegations against him.

“I want protection from this woman because she is trying to tarnish my image. She reported to the police that I had sexually abused our daughter in her absence,” he submitted.

Musarira said he was only set free from police custody after medical reports showed that the minor was never sexually abused.

“I am now living in fear because she tells people bad things about me. My relatives now hate me and she sends me insulting messages over the phone.”

Chinyoka confirmed that she had left their matrimonial home after their marriage broke down.

I no longer stay with the applicant because he is the abuser. He stays with our kids and I take them during the weekends,” she said before turning the knife against Musarira, accusing him of taking drugs.

“He is lying that I abuse him. I stopped going home because he is now addicted to mutoriro (crystal meth). He acts out of character and if he wants a protection order, I will make my own application to take my kids,” she said.

Chinyoka did not respond to claims of filing false rape charges against her ex-husband.

Magistrate Sharon Mashavira granted the protection order sought by Musarira.

Dubai Firm Buys A Fifth Of Zimbabwean Land For A Song

A Zimbabwe- and Dubai-based firm has inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Zimbabwe that would see a fifth of the southern African country’s landmass conceded for carbon credit production.

The deal, which was announced in Harare on 29 September, will give Blue Carbon blanket control over 7.5 million hectares of Zimbabwean forest.

The agreement comes shortly after the firm signed a slew of similar controversial MOUs with other African countries, including a deal with Liberia conceding 10 percent of the country’s territory to the firm, in breach of several land laws.

The flurry of contracts comes ahead of the UN Climate Summit Cop 28, set to take place in Dubai in November, with carbon credits slated to be a topline issue.

The global $2bn voluntary carbon offset market allows carbon emitters to offset emissions by purchasing credits from emission-reducing projects primarily in forest conservation.

Blue Carbon’s chairman, Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum, a member of the UAE royal family, said the deal could funnel $1.5bn in climate finance into the country.

The Dubai-based firm was established only a year ago and has no track record of managing carbon offset projects.

Campaigners have warned that Al Maktoum’s ties to the royal family, who are heavily invested in oil and gas infrastructure, mean that these deals carry a “greenwashing risk,” as the harvested credits could also be used to offset UAE’s own emissions.

‘A secret’
Zimbabwe is the third largest carbon credit producer in Africa and the site of the Kariba project, the world’s first large-scale forest protection project spanning 785,000 hectares, jointly managed by Zimbabwean entrepreneur, Stephen Wentzel, and Swiss carbon credits trading company, South Pole.

Attracting multinationals such as Gucci and Volkswagen, South Pole reaped 100 million euros from the project. Half of these profits were originally promised to local communities, but a Follow the Money investigation revealed that most of that sum remained unaccounted for.

In May, the Zimbabwean government revised its carbon regulations to reduce a government share in profits from carbon offset projects to 30 percent. Carbon trading developers will retain 70 percent, but will have to invest a quarter of their profits in community projects.

But according to Tracy Mutowekuziva, an attorney for the Centre for Natural Resource Governance (CNRG), there are concerns about whether the money will reach the impacted communities.

“The money does not usually go directly to the community which is involved in the preservation of the forest,” Mutowekuziva told MEE. “Usually the government just takes the money and they do what they think the community needs.”

Like the MOU with Liberia that preceded it, the details of the contract are opaque.

“It’s a secret…We really don’t know the figures. We can’t even tell if the (value) of the land is accurately measured or if it tallies with the amount being offered by the buyer,” Mutowekuziva said.

A resource curse
Customary land rights are not enshrined in Zimbabwean law, which stipulates that communal land is owned by the government.

“We know that the government has not respected communal land rights historically,” a communication specialist for Zimbabwe, Shaun Matsheza, told MEE. “This is a colonial legacy that was not corrected upon independence.”

“You can be uprooted at the drop of a hat,” Matsheza said. ”You can’t actually trust that any investments you make in your land are going to pay off in the end because you could easily be displaced.”

According to Matsheza, no villages were consulted about the deal.

“This has been the case for multiple other deals which the government makes behind closed doors, and is never actually put up for deliberation or any form of democratic process,” Matsheza said.

Zimbabwe has long been plundered for its resources, with coal mining swallowing vast tracts of land and displacing thousands. A 2019 report by a local watchdog found that mining projects would displace at least 30,000 families within five years.

In 2010, diamond mining in Marange saw thousands of people forcibly relocated to a deserted government farm without compensation.

“Every time a resource is discovered it has terrible implications for the community…it’s a resource curse,” Matsheza told MEE.

Swathes of the land earmarked for the deal also include existing nature reserves.

Blue Carbon says it adheres to the standards of REDD+, the international initiative to reduce emissions from deforestation.

However, REDD+ requires additionality, which dictates that a project generates additional benefits, such as carbon reductions, to the ones that would naturally occur without it.

And by buying land that includes protected land, Blue Carbon would not be providing any additional benefits.

Mounting scientific evidence is casting doubt on the efficacy of carbon credits in reducing emissions: a recent study on Verra, the world’s largest carbon standard framework, found that 94 percent of the credits had no benefit for the climate.

“It’s essentially increasing the licence for developed countries to further pollute the environment,” Matsheza told MEE.

“What Blue Carbon has done is identify this opportunity and place themselves as the middleman between developed countries and developing countries who are yet to fully develop mechanisms for participating in this market.”

Lawyer arrested over vendors arrest slur

By A Correspondent- A prominent lawyer Kenias Shonhai was on Wednesday arrested after commenting against the manner in which police officers were arresting and bundling vendors into their truck.

The incident happened in Harare’s central business district.

Initially, police had indicated that they wanted to charge him with insulting President Emmerson Mnangagwa, but settled for the undermining police authority charge.

“I can’t say what I really said on the day because it is part of my defence in court, but it is true that I was arrested and will appear in court soon,” he said.

The lawyer said he would appear in court on Tuesday.

In a statement posted on X, the Catholic Lawyers Guild Zimbabwe condemned Shonai’s arrest.

Last year, Shonhai filed a High Court application challenging the constitutionality of Zimbabwe’s Police Act saying it was discriminatory and inconsistent with the country’s Constitution.

Shonhai argued that the Act discriminates against husbands of police officers by denying them access to free healthcare services, yet the same privilege is extended to spouses of male officers.

Fire And Rain Burn Harare CBD Shop

By Farai D Hove | Wednesday afternoon, Cameroon Street in Harare was the stage for a horrifying ordeal that would be etched into the memories of the locals. The small shop, quaintly named “Harare Treasures,” stood there, its wooden facade holding the secrets of countless trinkets, books, and curiosities.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, a ferocious inferno, seemingly summoned by the darkest of sorcery, suddenly engulfed the shop. The flames danced menacingly, casting eerie shadows upon the surrounding buildings. Thick plumes of black smoke spiraled into the night sky, blotting out the stars. Panic spread like wildfire among the street’s residents, who gathered helplessly, their faces etched with disbelief.

Firefighters raced to the scene, sirens blaring and hoses gushing with water, but it was as if the flames were determined to consume every inch of Harare Treasures. The crackling and popping of burning wood and the pungent smell of charred possessions filled the air. The shop’s treasures turned to ashes, and the owner’s dreams went up in smoke.

Just when it seemed the worst was over, the heavens unleashed their wrath. The pounding rain fell like a curtain of tears, drenching the smoldering remains of the shop. It was a surreal sight, the juxtaposition of fire and water, an elemental battle between destruction and salvation.

The once-vibrant wares were now reduced to a soggy, charred mess. Books turned to pulp, artifacts lay broken, and the echoes of laughter that once filled the shop were now drowned in the relentless downpour. The street that was once filled with gasps of horror now whispered with the sorrow of onlookers, their hearts heavy with the weight of the tragedy.

As the sun was setting on Wednesday night, the remnants of “Harare Treasures” were a heartbreaking sight. The shop, once a hub of memories and curiosities, was now a symbol of devastation. Property worth thousands of US dollars had been reduced to rubble.

The people of Cameroon Street came together, their spirits unbroken, to support the shop owner in their time of need. It was a testament to the indomitable spirit of the community, even in the face of such a harrowing night.

The horror that befell “Harare Treasures” would forever be a somber tale, a reminder of the unpredictable and uncontrollable forces of nature. Yet, through the ashes and the rain, the resilient human spirit prevailed, standing as a beacon of hope amidst the ruins.- ZimEye

Govt Threatens Chamisa, Protects ‘Impostor’ Tshabangu

Government has warned the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) against taking any action which may likely cause an uprising in the name of democracy.

The remarks were made by Foreign Affairs acting minister Amon Murwira when he addressed the African Union ambassadors affiliated to Zimbabwe in Harare yesterday.

Apart from exonerating government from the CCC recalls and saying they can only be reversed by self-proclaimed secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu, Murwira subtly accused CCC leader Nelson Chamisa of “undemocratic conduct”.

Referring to Chamisa’s refusal to accept results of the presidential election in the August 23 harmonised elections Murwira said: “It is a matter of public record that one presidential candidate in the just-ended harmonised elections declared, well ahead of the polls and, brazenly in the presence of election observers and the media, that the candidate would not abide by any other result except one which ‘pronounced the candidate as the sole winner’.

“Indeed this was the second such instance in which the candidate made such a declaration. Sadly, violence ensued after such a declaration in 2018. This type of conduct is an attack on our democracy, constitutionalism and the rule of law.

“Regrettably, some countries have tended to support this undemocratic conduct. As in previous instances, government will not tolerate any actions aimed at disturbing the peace under the guise of ‘democratic political processes’.”

He said Zimbabwean law enjoins the Speaker of the National Assembly and the president of the Senate to promptly act on any and all communication from political formations brought before them to effect a recall.

“Neither official can or may cause, amend, or block any such communication once placed before them. Again, it is downright false to impute responsibility for any recalls on the two Presiding Officers; or even to suggest that they have the remit to withdraw any such communication. Only authors of such communication can cause a reversal,” Murwira said.

He also claimed that there are no political prisoners in the country, despite the opposition alleging that former Zengeza West legislator Job Sikhala who has now clocked over 400 days in jail, is one of them.

Political analyst Rejoice Ngwenya described Murwira’s remarks on Chamisa and recalls as “garbage”.

“The Constitution says elections ought to be free and fair. Observers reported that elections were not free and fair, so end of story,” he said.

“Constitution allows us to demonstrate peacefully. Have we been afforded that opportunity? Zec (Zimbabwe Electoral Commission) must be independent, right? When Msengezi tried to recall ED, what happened? So the Speaker is a cyborg that responds to any letter from the street?”

CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi could not be reached to comment on Murwira’s statement yesterday.

Dangers Of Underestimating Chamisa’s Power

By Constate Juramwa | This is a tale of political intrigue and resilience played out, a story of how underestimating a determined leader like Nelson Chamisa could have devastating consequences.

In the year 2023, Zimbabwe was at a crossroads. The nation had been through years of political turmoil and economic hardship. Nelson Chamisa, a charismatic and unwavering leader, stood as the opposition candidate in the presidential election. He promised the people a brighter future and genuine change.

On the other side of the political spectrum was Emmerson Mnangagwa, the incumbent president who had ruled with an iron fist for years. Mnangagwa was determined to maintain his grip on power at any cost, and he didn’t hesitate to resort to underhanded tactics.

The election year brought not just one, but a trifecta of rigging. The presidential, parliamentary, and local government elections were marred by allegations of foul play. Mnangagwa’s party even went as far as recalling elected officials from opposition parties, further eroding the principles of democracy.

It seemed that Mnangagwa was on the brink of victory, his power secure through manipulation and deceit. The international community watched closely, concerned about the blatant disregard for democratic values.

However, underestimating Nelson Chamisa was a grave mistake. Chamisa was a resilient leader who refused to bow down to injustice. He rallied the people, urging them to stand up for their rights and demand justice. Peaceful protests and international pressure became their weapons against a rigged system.

As Mnangagwa’s presidency relied more on unlawful actions, the country suffered. Investors shied away, fearing the instability and a lack of respect for the rule of law. Zimbabwe was pushed to the brink, with no economic growth in sight.

But as the world turned its attention to Zimbabwe, Chamisa’s determination and the people’s unwavering support began to shift the balance of power. The international community imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe, further isolating Mnangagwa’s regime.

The illegitimate presidency began to crumble under the weight of its own corruption. Mnangagwa’s actions and the rigging of the 2023 election had weakened his grip on the nation. Zimbabwe was left with a fractured administration, a struggling economy, and a loss of international credibility.

In the end, Nelson Chamisa emerged as a symbol of hope and resilience. His leadership was not just respected by the people of Zimbabwe, but by the international community as well. As Mnangagwa’s unlawful presidency collapsed, the nation began the arduous journey of rebuilding.

Investors eventually returned to Zimbabwe, drawn by the prospect of a nation that valued democracy, justice, and economic prosperity. The 2023 rigged election had been a turning point in the nation’s history, a stark reminder of the consequences of rigging and the importance of upholding democratic values.

The futility of relying on a rigged presidency had brought Zimbabwe to its knees, but the people’s determination and the global pressure against injustice had paved the way for a brighter future. Half a century of stagnation was averted, and Zimbabwe could once again grow and prosper under the leadership of Nelson Chamisa.

Magic Powers Fail Robbers

Robbers’ Sangoma Magic Fails Them as They Face Trial.

-Bulawayo, October 20, 2023* – In a startling turn of events, the purported magical powers of three fleeing robbers ran out as they faced trial for an alleged armed robbery. Elvis Charapuka (38), Mlingiseli Sibanda (44), and Bhekimpilo Ncube (35) appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Dambudzo Malunga, where they pleaded not guilty. The trio stands accused of robbing businessman George Kudya (42), who is also the managing director of Star Distributors, in a chilling armed attack at his Mahatshula suburb home.

Kudya took the stand for cross-examination and recounted the harrowing incident that unfolded on that fateful day. He revealed that upon returning home before 7 pm, he was ambushed by Charapuka, Sibanda, and Ncube. The robbers allegedly manhandled him and pointed a gun at his head, demanding money.

Under duress and fearing for his life, Kudya surrendered a substantial sum of US$6,000. The assailants then proceeded to rob him of an additional P110,000 before making their escape in their vehicle.

However, the surprising twist in this case came from a traditional healer, Gogo Otilia Murombedzi, who was called to testify. Murombedzi disclosed that Charapuka had been a visitor to her Cowdray Park suburb home for consultations and to obtain good luck charms before the robbery. She further confirmed that Charapuka had given her P1,800 as a token of appreciation. Astonishingly, she claimed that her ancestral spirits had warned her that the money was “dirty,” rendering it unusable.

The allegations against Sibanda, Ncube, and Charapuka revolve around an incident that occurred on January 7th of this year when the accused waylaid Kudya at his home. According to court documents, the trio arrived at Kudya’s residence just before 7 pm. They approached him, demanded money, and forcibly took US$6,000 from him. Unsatisfied, they compelled him to retrieve an additional P110,000 from his car.

Kudya promptly reported the robbery to the police, leading to an investigation that revealed Charapuka’s gesture of gratitude to the traditional healer. As the trial unfolds, the accused robbers face the challenge of explaining their actions, and the inexplicable failure of the supposed magical protection that had previously shielded them from harm.

Concillia Ncube represents the State in this intriguing case, which continues to captivate both the court and the public. The accused trio has been remanded out of custody, with their trial scheduled to resume on October 25, 2023.- HMetro/Additional Reporting

ANC Expels School Director for Criticizing Mnangagwa, Hosting Mandaza

Johannesburg, October 19, 2023* – By Farai D Hove | The African National Congress (ANC) has taken action against David Masondo, the former director of the OR Tambo School of Leadership, for his public criticism of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Masondo, who previously held the position of deputy finance minister and was the principal of the school, has been replaced by former Gauteng Premier David Makhura.

The decision to remove Masondo from his position was announced by ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula, who cited it as a response to an “alignment issue” within the party. The ANC’s national executive committee has instructed the school’s chairperson, former deputy ANC president Kgalema Motlanthe, and its board to effect the removal of Masondo.

Masondo’s tenure as the principal of the OR Tambo School of Leadership had seen the institution used as a platform for training individuals appointed by the ANC to serve in various municipalities and legislatures. However, a power struggle over control of the school had been brewing, with a recent lecture on the Zimbabwean elections at the center of the dispute.

Notably, this decision comes after Masondo’s criticism of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, although ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula denied that this was the primary reason for the change. Mbalula emphasized that the decision was rooted in an internal alignment issue.

David Makhura, the former Gauteng Premier, has been selected to take up the role of head of the OR Tambo School of Leadership. Makhura, described by Mbalula as the ANC’s “political commissar,” is responsible for the party’s ideological thinking and is a full-time deployee.

In addressing the situation, Mbalula also criticized the school for providing a platform to a single group with anti-Zanu-PF sentiments. He stressed that the school should not be used as a propaganda tool for any particular faction within South Africa.

Despite Masondo’s removal from his position as school director, Mbalula mentioned that he would still have a role within the institution.
