School Head Chases Away Auditor

MASVINGO – Ndarama High School head in Masvingo, Oddy Matongo has barred an external forensic auditor from looking into the school’s books of accounts much to the chagrin of parents who have always complained against the alleged misuse of school funds.

Ndarama SDA chairman Martin Makweza said the auditor went to the school on Monday last week to get certain books of accounts but the head refused to hand them over insisting that the auditor must first look into previous sets of books. However, the same books he wanted looked into are missing from the school and are allegedly being kept by a former SDA chairperson Enesia Chekacheke.Parents told The Mirror that the current SDA suspects systematic embezzlement of funds from the school.

Incidentally parents had to go to court to remove a previous chairperson Ray Muzenda who refused to step down after serving in that position for 18 years.

Matongo declined to comment and referred The Mirror to the District Schools Inspector (DSI) Ismael Chigaba. Chigaba said Ndarama is a Government school which can only be audited by Government auditors. “We have Government auditors, they are the ones who can only carry out an audit at a Government school and not external auditors, that’s the procedure and parents may not be aware of that. There are Government auditors who carried out an audit in January and the results were sent to the Ministry and they responded. We cannot continue to have auditors at the school,” said Chigaba…Masvingo Mirror

Mubobobo Teacher Causes Havoc At School

MASVINGO – Shindi Secondary in Chivi has closed after allegations that pupils are collapsing at school and after that they see a teacher (named) having magical sex (mubobobo) with them.

The school which is in Ward 26 was closed on June 13, 2023, after an outcry from parents over the satanic allegations. Sources said about 20 pupils, mainly girls collapsed every day.

The school is expected to reopen after the accused teacher leaves the School.

Chivi District Schools Inspector (DSI) Isaac Gwamuri, confirmed the closure but could not comment to The Mirror as he said he was away in Chinhoyi.

“The school is closed after parents complained about suspected satanic activities. But I cannot comment right away because I am in Chinhoyi,’’ said Gwamuri.

Shindi Deputy Head, Tavonga Chakawa referred all questions to the DSI.

The Mirror has a letter dated June 13, 2023, written to the DSI by Chief Shindi accusing the teacher of belonging to a satanic cult and causing problems in the school.

This is not the first that a teacher had caused problems with mubobobo at a school. At a certain school in Buhera, a teacher had to be removed after allegedly terrorizing female teachers both married and unmarried.

Sources said the teacher uses mubobobo on girls both at school and at home. At school, pupils allegedly shouted out the teacher’s name after collapsing, according to Chief Shindi’s letter in the hands of The Mirror.

Some parents said their children would see the teacher coming into their bedrooms at night and having sex with them. www.masvingomirror.com

About Sanitation And Hygiene

Half of the world’s population still does not have adequate access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) which could have prevented at least 1.4 million deaths and 74 million disability-adjusted life years in 2019, according to the latest report by the World Health Organization (WHO) and an accompanying article published in The Lancet.

“With growing WASH-related health risks seen already today through conflicts, the emergence of antimicrobial resistance, the re-emergence of cholera hotspots, and the long-term threats from climate change, the imperative to invest is stronger than ever” said Dr Maria Neira, Director, WHO Department of Environment, Climate Change and Health. “We have seen improvements in WASH service levels over the last 10 years, but progress is uneven and insufficient”

Burden of disease attributable to unsafe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene: 2019 update presents estimates of the burden of disease attributable to unsafe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene for 183 WHO Member States disaggregated by region, age and sex for the year 2019. The estimates are based on four health outcomes – diarrhoea, acute respiratory infections, undernutrition, and soil-transmitted helminthiases.

Diarrhoeal disease accounted for most of the attributable burden, with over one million deaths and 55 million DALYs. The second largest contributor was acute respiratory infections from inadequate hand hygiene, which was linked to 356 000 deaths and 17 million DALYs.

Among children under five, unsafe WASH was responsible for 395 000 deaths and 37 million DALYs, representing 7.6% of all deaths and 7.5% of all DALYs in this age group. This included 273 000 deaths from diarrhoea and 112 000 deaths from acute respiratory infections.

These diseases are the top two infectious causes of death for children under five globally.

Important disparities were noted between regions and income groups. More than three-quarters of all WASH-attributable deaths occurred in the WHO African and South-East Asia regions, while 89% of attributable deaths were from low- and lower-middle income countries. However, even high-income countries are at risk, as 18% of their diarrhoeal disease burden could be prevented through improved hand hygiene practices.

While these estimates included four health outcomes for which data were available to quantify the impact, the true burden is likely to be much higher.

The impacts of unsafe WASH on health are wide-ranging and go beyond disease by affecting social and mental well-being. In addition, climate change is likely to exacerbate many WASH-related diseases and risks which are not fully captured in the present estimates.

To reduce the WASH-attributable burden of disease, WHO urges governments to take the following actions with support from UN agencies, multilateral partners, the private sector and civil society organizations:

Radically accelerate action to make safe WASH a reality for all.

The mid-term comprehensive review of the International Decade for Action Towards the Sustainable Development Goals saw renewed commitments from governments to accelerate progress towards the goal of universal access to safe WASH.

By quantifying for the first time the health gains associated with higher WASH service levels, the updated estimates provide strong evidence to support efforts to take these commitments to action.
Focus efforts on the poorest and most disadvantaged.

The burden of disease is largely driven by inadequate access in low- and middle- income countries, and national estimates on WASH access often hide disparities within countries. Access to WASH services is typically lower among rural populations and lower socio-economic groups.

Even in high-income countries, where access to safely managed drinking-water and sanitation services is generally high, certain marginalized communities are underserved and face higher risks.

Adapt national monitoring systems to improve data on population exposure to safely managed services.

Data on higher levels of WASH services remain sparse in many countries. Governments should adapt national and local monitoring systems taking into consideration the higher service levels called for in the SDG framework, enabling a more accurate reflection of the full burden of disease associated with unsafe WASH.

“It is clear that inadequate access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services continues to pose a significant, and preventable, health risk, particularly to the most vulnerable populations,” said Mr. Bruce Gordon, Head, WHO Water, Sanitation, Hygiene and Health Unit. “The health benefits, as quantified in the report, are immense. Prioritizing those most in need is not just a moral imperative; it is key to addressing the disproportionate disease burden in low and middle-income countries and among marginalized groups in high-income countries.”

To support governments, WHO also today released a new tool to model disease impacts from different WASH scenarios. The tool will foster informed policy-making, guide targeted interventions, and support strategic resource allocation for WASH programming.

Fresh fears grip Belgravia residents after murder at pub

By A Correspondent| Residents of Belgravia in Harare have raised fresh fears over violence and robbery following the recent tragic events in which a man was callously murdered at a local pub.

David Matambo was allegedly killed by Calisto Murawo at Afro 161 Bar and Restaurant popularly known as KwaBelinda.

The death of the reveler comes in the midst of Belgravia residence call for the local authorities to intervene in the probing of certain recreational activities in which a casino Sunshine City is at the center of the storm.

Residence from Belgravia recently wrote a letter to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) alleging illegal operations at the casino red flagging it as a haven of violence and thuggery.

In a letter to ZACC that has been seen by this publication, residents said, “It has become a cause of concern among residents that the establishment of the casino in the neighborhood is posing a serious threat to the peace and security of the residents which has further raised questions over the casino’s compliance with city by-laws.

“It is our wish that ZACC authorities make security compliance checks into the casino establishment including its legal fulfillment to the regulating laws governing the operations of casinos in the country,” reads the letter.

Zimbabwe National Organisation of Association of Residents Trust (ZNOART) chairperson Cde Shalvar Chikomba has called for the closing of the casinos and bars designated in local residential areas.

“Initially when Harare City council executed a change of land use they were supposed to engage us residents, however because of corruption they went on without our engagement.

“Currently, Belgravia has noise pollution, values are declining and as residents, we think casinos should not be located in areas where people live because it affects them due to crime imagine we already have the recent murder of the reveler, we call for the shut down of this casino too, ” said Chikomba

The business community in Belgravia has implored local authorities to probe ownership and control patterns of certain businesses in the neighborhood.

“It is important that certain business activities be monitored and vetted so that local residents are safer from certain criminal activities, usually some of the businesses do not comply with the country’s registration laws as they will be some corrupt political leaders benefitting from these set-ups and at times if any crime is committed they tend to go unattended because of the political influence they exert on the justice systems,” said a member of the Belgravia business community.

Recently, the country’s immigration police pounced on the casino allegedly investigating the Chinese business owners over the lack of relevant paperwork needed in the operations of the casino.

An official with the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage revealed that several casinos run by Chinese are not licensed as they tend to be cleared through political lines, “all we know is that licenses are not issued properly and vetting of casinos is not a transparent process, that’s all I can say,” said the official who declined to be named.

Tory MPs In Bid To Block Zimbabwe Care Workers From Working UK

A gang of Tory MPs is trying to force Rishi Sunak to stop foreign staff taking jobs in care homes – despite a huge number of vacancies.

The New Conservatives Group on Monday will demand the struggling PM adopt their extreme plan for immigration.

In a challenge to Mr Sunak’s authority, Tory deputy chairman Lee Anderson will speak at its launch.

The MPs, led by Tom Hunt, are angry that he has failed to deliver on the 2019 Conservative manifesto pledge to slash the numbers of people arriving in this country.

Net immigration stood at 226,000 when Boris Johnson made the promise, but it has risen to an all time high of 606,000 since then.

In order to reduce the numbers, the group wants Mr Sunak to take radical action, including ending a scheme to give visas to carers to fill staff vacancies.

Social care workers, care assistants and home care worker roles are currently included on the Shortage Occupation List.

This means staff are eligible for the Health and Care Worker visa, lasting either three or five years.

Latest figures show there were an estimated 165,000 vacancies in the adult care sector in England last year, up 52% from the year before.

The New Conservatives Group said the immigration system set up by the government after Brexit has been “too lenient” and is not working.

Peeping Tom In Court On Attempted Rape Charges

A 40-year-old man from Esigodini who used to masturbate while peeping through the bathroom window when his cousin’s wife was bathing has appeared in court facing rape charges.

This was after he allegedly sexually attacked his cousin’s wife while she was bathing.

He appeared before Esigodini resident magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to 5 July where he is set to appear at Gwanda regional magistrate court for commencement of trial. A court heard that on a date not known to the prosecutor but during this month Mpofu was requested by his cousin to accompany his wife from her workplace to her home every day after knocking off from work.

The court heard that while on the way Mpofu would propose love to his cousin’s wife who would turn him down.

It is alleged that upon noticing that his love proposals were not being accepted he resorted to groping her breasts and bums.

When they got to her home most of the time he would leave intending to go to his home but would return after a few minutes to peep through the bathroom window when his cousin’s wife was bathing, the court heard.

Mbare Woman Backtracks On Rape Charges Against Hubby

A Mbare woman claims she made a false rape report against her husband after he failed to buy maternity preparation.

Kesy Hwengwere, 37, of Daniel Street, told H-Metro that her sister forced her to lodge a police report against her husband, Munyaradzi Hugh, 29, and is now regretting the decision.

Kesy claimed that Munyaradzi raped her sometime in January and she fell pregnant before they started living together as husband and wife.

“I feel sorry for being forced to lodge a police report against my husband,” said Kesy.

“My sister was affected when she learnt that Munyaradzi was failing to buy maternity preparation for the baby I was expecting.
Our marriage started sometime in May, after Munyaradzi impregnated me in January.

Super Dad Refuses To Pay Maintanance For 13th Child

A Harare man on Friday refused to pay US$250 to support his nine-year-old daughter saying he had a maintenance bill for 12 of his other children.

Simbarashe Jari told Harare magistrate Ayanda Dlamini that his ex-wife Yvette Kutyauripo was making outrageous demands before offering to pay US$20.

“She will have to manage with the US$20 offer because my other 12 kids require money for upkeep,” he said.

Kutyauripo refused the offer saying Jari was a man of means.

“He told me that he was a director of a company and earned US$1 000,” she said.

“He is also into the business of buying and selling cars and owns a grocery store in Mazowe.”

She said her ex-husband only had six other children, not 12. Dlamini ordered Jari to pay US$60 towards maintenance.

Mnangagwa Attacks Indians

By-President Emmerson Mnangagwa has singled out Indian businessmen and Innscor Africa Limited for allegedly hoarding products resulting in artificial shortages and price increases.

Speaking at a ZANU PF rally at Nyele Primary School in Bulilima, Matabeleland South Province on Saturday, 01 July, Mnangagwa said those “unscrupulous” businesses are enemies of the Government.

He warned that if the allegations are true, the Indians will be deported, and their goods will be confiscated and distributed to ZANU PF members.

The Sunday Mail quoted Mnangagwa as saying:
We are being attacked, currently, nema price achikwira (through price increases). Why? Just when we announced that we are going for a general election, our enemies decided to cause problems among our people, ma-prices kutanga kukwira kunana Inscor (Inscor started to increase prices).
I have been told today that some Indians in Harare are stocking basic goods in Harare.
Vanonotenga sugar yakawanda kuChiredzi (they buy sugar in bulk from Chiredzi), all the basic goods like flour and so on vo-stocker muma warehouses, vokwidza ma-price (and stock the products in their warehouses and raise their prices).
Let me warn them. I have my people investigating these warehouses and if it is true, we shall confiscate not only the warehouses but also the things inside and give to you to distribute.
If they want to hoard, ngavadzokere vanoita hoard kunyika dzekwavo (they should go back and do that in their countries of origin) not in Zimbabwe.
Our government will never tolerate such activities in independent Zimbabwe.
In recent weeks, some basic grocery items have disappeared from shop shelves, while some businesses, especially those in the informal sector, are charging products exclusively in foreign currency.
Inflation has also been on the rise and jumped to 175.8% in June, up from 86.5% in May.

Mthuli Blocks US Dollar Council Billing Proposal

By- The Finance Ministry has blocked a move by the Harare City Council (HCC) to start billing its clients in US dollars. The council had recently announced that it would begin charging its services in foreign currency from July 1, 2023, to preserve value for money and hedge against inflation. The council said:

The need to preserve value against rate losses has necessitated this move. City of Harare thanks its valued residents for the support in funding service delivery through payment of rates and other services.

However, the Finance Ministry’s Secretary, George Guvamatanga, has described the proposal as unlawful, stating that it violates Statutory Instrument (SI) 142 of 2019. The SI prohibits the use of foreign currency for domestic transactions, except if provided for by the law or if exempted in terms of the Exchange Control Regulations. He further explained that any person with free funds may elect to pay for goods and services chargeable in Zimbabwe dollars, in foreign currency using their free funds at the ruling rate on the date of payment. Guvamatanga has ordered the HCC to withdraw its notice and comply with relevant laws. He said:

Under this, in March 2020, the government published SI 85 of 2020 which, in section 2(2) provides that any person with free funds may elect to pay for goods and services chargeable in Zimbabwe dollars, in foreign currency using his or her free funds at the ruling rate on the date of payment.

The payment, in foreign currency by any person paying for goods and services should be at his/her option unless otherwise exempted and cannot be compelled to pay in foreign currency.

The charging and billing in US dollar by the City of Harare or any local authority is unlawful and contravenes the above-cited laws. As the city council falls under your purview, may you ensure that the City of Harare withdraws its notice and all local authorities comply with relevant laws. Be guided accordingly.

The Zimbabwe dollar has seen a major decline in recent months due to inflation, foreign currency shortages, and a lack of trust in the government’s economic policies. This has negatively impacted the population’s purchasing power and access to essential goods and services. Some businesses have refused to accept the local currency due to its volatility. The government has attempted to stabilize the economy and currency, but with limited success thus far.

Lawsuits To Disqualify Chamisa’s CCC Party

Lawsuit Challenges Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Over Alleged Irregularities, Sparking Political Controversy.

In a significant legal development ahead of Zimbabwe’s upcoming August 23 harmonized elections, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is facing a lawsuit from registered voters in Bulawayo. The lawsuit alleges that ZEC accepted nomination papers and candidatures from various political parties, including the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), outside the legally prescribed timeframes. While the court processes appear to be routine, there are claims of a government plot aimed at sabotaging Nelson Chamisa’s CCC party members’ chances of winning parliamentary and presidential power.

The Nomination Court, which convened on June 21 to accept papers from aspiring candidates, was followed by ZEC’s decision to extend the deadline to the next day in order to accommodate candidates who failed to file their nomination papers on time.

However, it has come to light that candidates from different parties, including the CCC, Zapu, Free Zim Congress, and the Zimbabwe African National Congress (ZANC), submitted their nomination papers after the 4 PM deadline.

In response to these alleged irregularities, twelve registered voters in Bulawayo filed urgent chamber applications for a declaratory order at the Bulawayo High Court on Friday night. The applicants are challenging ZEC’s decision to accept the nomination papers from opposition party candidates and are seeking the disqualification of the aspiring Members of Parliament who filed their papers outside the legally prescribed timeframes.

One of the applicants, Ms. Rachel Dube, a registered voter in the Mpopoma/Mzilikazi constituency, filed the application under case number HC 1362/23 through her legal representatives, Cheda and Cheda Associates. In her founding affidavit, Ms. Dube argues that ZEC’s decision to accept the nomination papers from the cited respondents is illegal and should be declared null and void.

Ms. Dube claims that prospective election participants were given ample time to ensure that their paperwork and affairs were in order ahead of the nomination day. However, she alleges that some political outfits, including the CCC, failed to meet the requirements. According to her affidavit, the nomination papers of the CCC and other respondents were in disarray, resulting in their initial rejection by the Nomination Court. She further contends that the respondents did not resubmit their nomination papers before the 4 PM deadline and were absent from the Nomination Court room or premises.

Ms. Dube asserts that the actions taken by the provincial elections officer were solely aimed at accommodating specific candidates and their colleagues from the same political parties in other constituencies in Bulawayo. She argues that ZEC violated the Electoral Act by accepting the candidature of the respondents after the 4 PM deadline, despite their absence from the Nomination Court.

Seeking urgent court intervention, Ms. Dube’s application requests an order prohibiting ZEC from including the names of the respondents in the preparation of ballot papers for the general elections. She clarifies that, as a registered voter and not a candidate, her application is within the jurisdiction of the High Court.

Ms. Dube’s application also seeks an order declaring the decision by the provincial elections officer to accept the respondents’ nomination papers null and void. Additionally, she requests that the respondents jointly and severally bear the legal costs.

The respondents, including ZEC, the mentioned candidates, and others, are yet to respond to the lawsuit. However, the legal challenge has attracted attention, and some individuals, such as Zanu-PF Treasurer General Cde Patrick Chinamasa, have expressed their views. Cde Chinamasa stated that it was illegal for ZEC to receive nomination papers awaiting the signature of CCC officials in Harare at the time the Nomination Court closed

on June 21. He also criticized the acceptance of nomination fees after the 4 PM deadline.

It is important to note that while claims of a government operation to sabotage Nelson Chamisa’s CCC party members’ candidature have been made, they remain unproven and disputed.

The court will continue to assess the lawsuit, which has added a layer of complexity and controversy to the forthcoming elections.- state media/additional reporting

About Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure child health and survival. However, contrary to WHO recommendations, fewer than half of infants under 6 months old are exclusively breastfed.

Breastmilk is the ideal food for infants. It is safe, clean and contains antibodies which help protect against many common childhood illnesses. Breastmilk provides all the energy and nutrients that the infant needs for the first months of life, and it continues to provide up to half or more of a child’s nutritional needs during the second half of the first year, and up to one third during the second year of life.

Breastfed children perform better on intelligence tests, are less likely to be overweight or obese and less prone to diabetes later in life. Women who breastfeed also have a reduced risk of breast and ovarian cancers.

Inappropriate marketing of breast-milk substitutes continues to undermine efforts to improve breastfeeding rates and duration worldwide.

FC Platinum Bounce Back

FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza believes his charges have rectified the defensive mistakes which resulted in their slow start to the 2023 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.

The Platinum miners did not have the best of starts to their title defence, as they lost three of their opening nine games and conceded 11 goals in the process.

But after four wins on the trot, in which they have not conceded, Mapeza feels his charges are back on track.

“We are moving in the right direction now, we just have to keep the momentum going,” Mapeza said after side’s 2-0 victory over Chicken Inn at Mandava Stadium today, courtesy of goals on either side of the half time break from Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya and Walter Musona.

“A few weeks ago, people were saying we were conceding and conceding, we have rectified our problems.

“It’s always good to out there and get a clean sheet, it gives the goalkeepers, the defenders and everybody else, some confidence,” added the former Warriors captain.

Despite the resurgence, Mapeza insists the defending champions, who face Dynamos at Babourfields Stadium next week, still have a lot of work to do.

“We still have to keep working hard. We have a difficult game coming next week against Dynamos, so we have to keep working hard,” said Mapeza.

Mapeza also confirmed that Musona, who limped off with six minutes left of play and was replaced by Perfect Chikwende, just had cramps and the injury isn’t a serious one.-Soccer24 News

Illegal Miners Disrupt Farming Scheme

OVER 100 farmers from the Bannockburn Irrigation Scheme in the Mhondongori area of Zvishavane have expressed concern over illegal chrome miners who have encroached into the scheme, thereby disrupting farming activities.

Although mining has been identified as key to achieving the National Development Strategy One goals, illegal mining activities at the irrigation scheme are hindering development and threatening food security in the area.

Belated Desertification and Drought Day commemorations in the area saw farmers from the scheme lamenting the rampant illegal mining activities which are disrupting productivity.

“This has been going on for years and our hope for food security is fading because these illegal miners are killing our irrigation scheme. Some villagers have fallen and died in the pits, and our livestock is also dying as a result,” said farmers who spoke to the ZBC News crew.

According to the Environmental Management Agency in the Midlands province, security measures are being put in place to protect the irrigation scheme.

By Farai D Hove | Emmerson Mnangagwa, the leader of Zimbabwe’s ZANU PF party, at the weekend made headlines for his shocking display at a party rally in Bulilima where he openly bragged about the son of another man he violently paralyzed (between the 15 Nov 2017 military coup and his death on 6th Sept 2019), mirroring a similar incident involving his love rival Godfrey Majonga, he reportedly forced to jump from a 5th floor apartment in 1987. (On 15 Nov 2017, President Robert Mugabe was ordered by Mnangagwa’s men to sit on a hot stove-a-military overthrowal, and a violent military engineered impeachment-5th-floor-jump as it were, just so that Mnangagwa can be-husband the country illegally). Mnangagwa has since the 1980s demonstrated a disturbing pattern of cruelty and abuse of power against love rivals. This analysis aims to delve into the implications of Mnangagwa’s actions and shed light on the broader context of his leadership.

Only Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son’s statements are important, Robert Mugabe junior has to be muzzled, George Charamba cruelly displays of the love-victim’s son on his Twitter portal

The background to the display is that: At rally in 2017, then President Robert Mugabe revealed how Mnangagwa made Majonga jump from a high rise building. Mugabe said when Mnangagwa found Majonga at the woman’s flat, he forced Majonga to choose between sitting on a red hot stove or jumping to his death from the third floor of a high rise building in Harare. The former President said Majonga went for the “easy route” of jumping through the window of the flat. In 2017, Majonga declined to comment on the incident referring journalists to the generators of the allegations.

A Culture of Paralyzing Rivals

The rally in Bulilima where Mnangagwa brazenly displayed his son standing aside Robert Mugabe junior served as a brazen platform for Mnangagwa to communicate his disregard for the lives he has impacted through violent means. His open association with the son of a paralyzed man, in addition to the infamous incident involving Godfrey Majonga, underscores a deeply concerning pattern. Mnangagwa’s actions suggest that he views the paralysis of his rivals as a symbol of his dominance and control over both personal relationships and political power.

Cruelty Towards the Children of Victims

Mnangagwa’s insensitivity reaches new heights as he shamelessly displays his association with the children of those whose lives he has ended or ruined. By proudly standing alongside the son of a paralyzed man, he sends a chilling message to all victims, implying that they must endure the consequences of his actions without protest. This callous attitude towards the children of his victims highlights a lack of empathy and an alarming disregard for the ongoing trauma experienced by affected families.

The Gukurahundi Legacy: An Ongoing Operation

Mnangagwa’s rally appearance also resurrects the dark shadow of the Gukurahundi atrocities, a violent operation that claimed the lives of thousands of civilians in the 1980s. His reference to the “Gukurahundi rain” as a justification for deploying the army against those he deems responsible for stopping the rain reveals a disturbing continuity. Despite officially claiming the end of the operation in 1984, Mnangagwa’s words and actions suggest that the culture of violence and suppression persists even four decades later.

Zimbabwe as Mnangagwa’s Personal Project

Analysts and critics have accused Mnangagwa of transforming Zimbabwe into a personal project, consolidating control over various institutions and eroding democratic principles. By pursuing his own interests and attempting to bend the nation to his will, Mnangagwa has turned Zimbabwe into a figurative woman he desires to “bed.” This power play extends beyond personal relationships and extends into the very fabric of the country’s governance, stifling dissent and curtailing the independence of institutions.

The Mugabe Son Display: A Message of Compliance

Mnangagwa’s alignment with Robert Junior Mugabe, the son of the late President Robert Mugabe, holds significant symbolic weight. By associating himself with someone historically seen as an obstacle to his ambitions, Mnangagwa implies that his victims, including the children of his adversaries, should comply with his actions and accept their subjugation. This display reinforces the message that resistance or opposition to Mnangagwa’s rule will be met with severe consequences.

Emmerson Mnangagwa’s display at the party rally in Bulilima is a disturbing testament to the depths of his cruelty and the abuse of power. By parading his association with paralyzed individuals and their families, he exhibits a shocking lack of empathy. Moreover, his reference to the ongoing Gukurahundi legacy and his transformation of Zimbabwe into a personal project highlight the erosion of democratic values. It is imperative that such actions are met with scrutiny and condemnation, as they have far-reaching implications for the nation’s stability and the well-being of its citizens.

Zim Dollar Disappears From The Market

A serious shortage of Zimbabwe dollar has hit the market on fiscal and monetary policy measures amid fears the crunch will affect aggregate demand.

The liquidity squeeze follows recent measures by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) and the Treasury to suck out liquidity in the market to stabilise the exchange rate which was blamed for runaway prices of basic goods and services.

The Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries president Kurai Matsheza said the deteriorating liquidity conditions were severely afflicting industry and commerce.

“There is a liquidity challenge in the economy and what the liquidity challenge does is it depresses aggregate demand as there is no traffic in the shops and at the industries,” Matsheza said.

“We are happy that things have stabilised but with this squeeze we are failing to make payments for other services because there is no ZWL$ in the market and this has reduced our production capacity.”

He said: “What it means is less cash in the markets, less product off-take so it means production will go down because companies can’t produce stock as they have no funds. We, however, hope that this would be temporary and not a long-term solution so that business goes back to normal.”

Among the measures introduced by the government include the central bank’s sale of foreign currency to banks at market determined rates for on selling to bank customers.

The central bank has introduced gold coins and gold-backed tokens which have mopped over ZWL$60bn.

The authorities also suspended payouts to contractors, to control money supply and stabilise the spiralling inflation that has been ranked among the highest in the world.

The Treasury has also directed taxpayers to settle half of the 2nd quarterly payment date in local currency to promote the use of local currency, adding that no payment would be accepted in foreign currency. Taxpayers without adequate local currency are supposed to approach the central bank.

Major retailers said they reported low sales over the past few weeks as consumers, who previously preferred to spend all their local currency in shops, witnessed a dry spell.

The Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers president Denford Mutashu said sales have gone up in US$ in shops following the shortage of ZWL$.

“In the past two weeks, we have witnessed an increase in US$ sales but the ZWL$ sales have significantly decreased resulting in the low aggregate demand,” Mutashu said.

Economist Gift Mugano said a continued shortage of the local currency could paralyse the economy, given that the currency is Zimbabwe’s legal tender.

“The government closed the tap on liquidity, which further confirms the long-held belief that government is the biggest driver of inflation,” Mugano said.

He said there is a huge demand for ZWL$ now that the government has stopped pumping money into the market.

Experts say the suspension of payment to government contractors would affect service providers that play a key role in the economy. They said the withholding of funds is a disaster for service delivery.

Companies whose payments have been delayed will refuse to do business with the government and this will result in a total collapse of public services and the projects that the government is working on, they said.

The Zimbabwe dollar remained under pressure this week as annual inflation continued on an upward trend, accelerating to 175.8% in the month of June from 86.5% in May.

To rein in the runaway inflation, the RBZ expanded its monetary measures, tightening money supply and curtailing speculative activities.

The apex bank also increased the market interest rates to 150% from 140%.

Analysts said the move reduced liquidity in the market.

Since January, the local currency has lost 110% of its value on the auction market and 369% on the parallel market.

The massive depreciation of the local currency is being transmitted to prices which causes inflation and macroeconomic instability.

The squeeze has seen banks cutting back on lending at a time companies are in dire need of funding.

Govt Accused Of Negotiating With Civil Servants In Bad Faith

Unions representing teachers have accused government of negotiating in bad faith as they dismissed the latest salary offer as too little. Public Service minister Paul Mavima announced at the weekend that government would table a new salary offer for teachers and other civil servants at the National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC) set for this week.

According to Mavima, government plans to increase the forex component to US$150 from US$100.In separate interviews, union leaders said government was aware that they long abandoned the NJNC as a platform to address their grievances. The unions quit the NJNC in 2020 after a series of fruitless meetings.

The NJNC comprised government representatives and unions representing civil servants. “A salary increment should be tabled at a collective bargaining platform, where the workers and employer haggle around and agree on a bargaining agreement. That agreement should be the one published,” Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe leader Obert Masaraure said.

Masaraure said unions were clear that they wanted a collective bargaining platform to replace the NJNC.“The employer should meet all union representatives to discuss conditions of service,” he said.

“The minister is also usurping the powers of the Public Service Commission. Section 203(1) of the national Constitution mandates the Public Service Commission (PSC) to fix conditions of service for civil servants, not the minister. Such conditions should be fixed in line with section 65(5) which provides for the right to collective bargaining.“We also reject any increment which doesn’t match the basket of needs for teachers. We have done the calculations and come up with a minimum of US$1 260.”

Educators Union of Zimbabwe secretary-general Tapedza Zhou added: “The salary increment was long overdue, hence should have been done yesterday. As a union, we don’t believe in NJNC whose mandate has long ceased to exist. “We actually believe that US$540 is not negotiable, since it was our pre-October 2018 earning, and what we could negotiate is additional income above that.”

Mnangagwa: Businesses Are Attacking Govt Ahead of 2023 Elections

ZANU PF Leader Warns Businesses Against Creating Artificial Shortages Ahead of 2023 Elections.

BULILIMA, MATABELELAND SOUTH PROVINCE – Emmerson Mnangagwa, the leader of Zimbabwe’s ruling party ZANU PF, issued a strong warning to businesses suspected of creating artificial shortages of goods in an attempt to undermine the country’s economy. Speaking at a rally in Bulilima, Mnangagwa addressed thousands of ZANU PF supporters, asserting that such actions were a ploy employed by those working against his party ahead of the anticipated 2023 elections.

The warning comes as Zimbabwe has witnessed a sudden disappearance of basic commodities, including sugar, cooking oil, and flour, from store shelves, particularly in major urban areas. This scarcity has occurred despite the recent exemption of a list of basic goods from import tax, introduced by the government in response to an attack on the local currency two months ago, which triggered a wave of price increases.

Mnangagwa expressed his concern over the situation and revealed that he had directed a team to investigate these suspected actions. “We are being attacked, currently, with skyrocketing prices. Why? Just when we announced that we are going for a general election, our enemies decided to cause problems among our people, starting with skyrocketing prices,” stated Mnangagwa during his address.

The ZANU PF leader further highlighted reports of certain individuals, particularly Indians in Harare, allegedly stockpiling basic goods. “I have been told today that some Indians in Harare are stocking basic goods. They are buying excessive amounts of sugar in Chiredzi, stockpiling basic goods like flour and others in their warehouses, and driving up the prices,” added Mnangagwa.

In response to these alleged actions, Mnangagwa issued a stern warning to those involved. He vowed that if the investigations confirmed the reports, not only would the warehouses be confiscated, but the goods inside would be distributed to the people. “If they want to hoard, let them do it in their own countries, not in Zimbabwe. Our government will never tolerate such activities in independent Zimbabwe,” Mnangagwa emphasized.

The ZANU PF leader reiterated the importance of economic stability and development as the core focus of the Second Republic. He called upon Zimbabweans to unite behind the government’s development agenda, recognizing that the country’s progress could only be achieved by its people. Mnangagwa emphasized that Zimbabwe would utilize its natural and human resources to forge ahead and stimulate economic growth from grassroots levels.

Mnangagwa highlighted the government’s commitment to devolution, stating that decisions were no longer made solely in Harare. The introduction of devolution funds since 2020, amounting to $16 billion for Matabeleland South Province alone, aimed to address the specific needs of each community. The ZANU PF leader assured the province, rich in minerals, that his government would continue to ensure that local resources benefitted communities and contributed to the overall economy.

In conclusion, Mnangagwa called for the maximization of tourism benefits in Matabeleland South Province, urging the exploitation of attractions such as Matopos, which has the potential to attract foreign visitors. As Zimbabwe prepares for the 2023 elections, the government remains determined to curb any practices that may destabilize the economy and hinder the nation’s progress.- Agencies

PSG Boss Nabbed Over Discrimination

Out-going PSG boss Christophe Galtier has been taken into police custody over allegations of discrimination.

The gaffer was detained together with his son in Nice this morning.

According French outlet Le Parisien, as cited by GFFN website, the pair is being questioned by authorities in relation to accusations of alleged discrimination and racist remarks made in 2021, which emerged back in April, reportedly via former Nice sporting director Julien Fournier.

Galtier allegedly complained to Fournier about the number of ‘blacks and Muslims’ in the squad at former club Nice.

However, the coach has denied the allegations.

Reacting to the allegations in April, Galtier published a written statement which read: “I have been extremely shocked by the allegations that some people have irresponsibly made and relayed. These allegations hurt me in the deepest part of my being.

“I am a child who grew up in a council estate, in a melting pot with values of sharing and respect for others, regardless of their origins or religion. All my life and career has been guided by the the wellbeing and sharing with others.

“I cannot accept that my name and my family could be tarnished in this way. So I have decided to take legal action against anyone damaging my reputation.

“I trust our legal system and I also welcome the start of a legal proceeding this morning with serenity. I will not make anymore comments on this matter.”

Meanwhile, Galtier is set to be sacked by PSG as coach and replaced by Luis Enrique in the coming days. – Soccer24 News

Headmaster Bans Auditor Investigating US$800,000

The head of Ndarama High School in Masvingo, Oddy Matongo, has come under fire as he reportedly blocked an external forensic auditor from examining the school’s financial records. This action has stirred the ire of parents who have long complained about the alleged misuse of school funds. The controversy surrounding the situation has raised concerns about transparency and accountability within the school’s administration.

Blocking auditor… headmaster Oddy Matongo

Refusal to Cooperate

According to Martin Makweza, the Ndarama SDA chairman, the auditor arrived at the school last week to access certain books of accounts. However, the headmaster refused to hand over the requested documents, insisting that the auditor should first review previous sets of books. Ironically, the very books the auditor sought to examine were missing from the school and allegedly being held by a former SDA chairperson, Enesia Chekacheke.

Suspected Embezzlement

Parents, who have been vocal about their concerns regarding the handling of school funds, have voiced suspicions of systematic embezzlement within Ndarama High School. In a bid to address the situation, they previously took legal action to remove a long-standing chairperson, Ray Muzenda, who had served in the position for 18 years and refused to step down.

Government Auditors vs. External Auditors

When approached for comment, Headmaster Matongo declined and referred inquiries to the District Schools Inspector (DSI), Ismael Chigaba. Chigaba clarified that Ndarama High School, being a government school, is subject to audit by government auditors exclusively. He emphasized that external auditors are not permitted to conduct audits in government schools. Chigaba further noted that government auditors had already conducted an audit in January, with the results submitted to the Ministry for review and response.

The Need for Transparency and Accountability

Parents are seeking clarity on the management of school funds and have raised concerns over several financial matters. One such issue is an alleged loan of US$800,000 obtained from BANC ABC, the purpose of which has not been disclosed to parents. Additionally, there is a reported case of US$4,270 being utilized by the school authority without proper banking procedures. The lack of transparency and Matongo’s alleged arrogance have left parents frustrated, leading them to question who might be supporting his actions.

Parental Intervention

Parents have successfully intervened in the matter previously, as they were able to reverse a purported school fee increase of US$158 imposed by Matongo. After their efforts, the fee was settled at US$80 per term. This success in challenging the headmaster’s decisions demonstrates the determination of parents to hold the school administration accountable for financial matters.

The situation at Ndarama High School in Masvingo highlights the importance of transparency, accountability, and proper financial management in educational institutions. The alleged refusal of the headmaster to allow an external forensic auditor to access the school’s financial records, combined with concerns raised by parents regarding missing books and suspected embezzlement, has raised serious questions about the governance of the school.-Mirror

Mnangagwa Challenger Dies In Mysterious Accident

Christ Ministries Leadership Wrangle Sparks Violence as Supreme Court Judgement Ignored

By A Correspondent | In a disturbing turn of events, the ongoing leadership dispute within the Christ Ministries church has escalated to religious violence, leading to the intervention of the authorities. The matter, initially presented in the High Court of Zimbabwe between Leddie Makoni and Colin Zondai Makoni, took an unexpected twist when the High Court Judge, the honorable Jacob Manzunzu, ruled that the applicant, Leddie Makoni, had no authority to represent the church.

The verdict delivered by Judge Manzunzu left the future of Christ Ministries in a state of uncertainty. Following the ruling, Leddie Makoni promptly filed an appeal against the entire judgment in hopes of overturning the decision. However, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal, leaving the High Court ruling intact.

Despite the clear judgment from the Supreme Court, the appellant, Leddie Makoni, has failed to comply with the court’s decision. The situation has further deteriorated as reports indicate that religious violence erupted within the Christ Ministries community on January 1, 2023. The severity of the situation necessitated the involvement of a reaction squad to restore law and order.

A video recording capturing the distressing scenes of religious violence was uploaded online, rapidly gaining viral attention. The footage portrays a divided congregation engaged in physical altercations, highlighting the volatile state of affairs within the church. The alarming incident has raised concerns among the general public, highlighting the potential dangers associated with unresolved disputes within religious institutions.

In response to the escalating situation and the failure to comply with the Supreme Court judgment, there are indications that the affected party may file a petition for contempt of court. Such a move would seek legal consequences against the party who defied the court’s order, adding another layer of complexity to an already tense situation.

As the Christ Ministries church leadership wrangle continues to unfold, it is evident that the division within the congregation remains unresolved. The consequences of this power struggle extend beyond the immediate parties involved, impacting the church’s reputation and the well-being of its members.

The significance of this case goes beyond the boundaries of a religious institution, emphasizing the importance of upholding the rule of law and respecting judicial decisions. The continued defiance of the Supreme Court judgment not only perpetuates the conflict but also sets a dangerous precedent for future disputes within Zimbabwean society.

The authorities, community leaders, and members of the Christ Ministries congregation are now faced with the urgent task of finding a peaceful and equitable resolution to this protracted conflict. The hopes for reconciliation and healing within the church are contingent upon the willingness of all parties involved to prioritize dialogue and abide by the rule of law.

It remains to be seen how the situation will progress in the coming days.

Meanwhile, a letter written by Zondai Collin Makoni concluded saying the church is not a court of law but a house of God. It read:

“The statement by Mr. Nkomo that the lawyers of the appellants commenced the process of reinstating the appeal is an admission that they lost the case. Ignorance is no defence in court. And he and his client must concede defeat with dignity. We, as the lawyers of the appellants, have commenced the process of reinstating the appeal and clarifying the procedural irregularity in question in terms of the law. [116 MAY 2023 ARTICLE 5 OUTCOME OF COURT PROCEEDINGS; SC392/21 DNM ATTORNEYS] The statement by Mr. Nkomo ensuring all church members and stake holders that the church remains under the leadership of Dr. Leddie Makoni is in defiance of the high court’s ruling that he has no authority to represent Christ Ministries Church and is meant to incite church members to seize power in the church through illegal and unconstitutional means. Our learned friend must be held accountable for inciting church members to defy the high court and Supreme Court orders. According to Mr. Nkomo, “We would like to ensure all church members and stake holders that the church remains under the leadership of Dr. Leddie Makoni. You should not be unsettled by the baseless miscommunication being circulated by CZ and his sympathisers. Such communication has no basis in law.” [16 MAY 2023, ARTICLE 6 OUTCOME OF COURT PROCEEDINGS; SC392/21 DNM ATTORNEYS] The statement by Mr. Nkomo that he will be giving the church leadership constant updates as the matter proceeds is tantamount to interference in the internal affairs of Christ Ministries Church.

“We don’t know who made our learned friend an expert on how we should run our church organisation. The church is not a court of law but a house of God. We shall be giving the church leadership constant updates as the matter proceeds. [116 MAY 2023 ARTICLE 7 OUTCOME OF COURT PROCEEDINGS; SC392/21 DNM ATTORNEYS] “

ZEC Endorses Fake Chamisa Candidates

By- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has endorsed more than 41 fake candidates who registered to contest in the 23 August polls under the CCC ticket.

CCC says forty-one (41) individuals fraudulently filed nomination papers as members of the party.

20 of the “fraudsters” filed nomination papers for National Assembly seats while the other 21 individuals filed for local authority seats.
On 22 June, CCC wrote a letter to ZEC and demanded a response within 2 hrs of receipt of the letter, according to Thabani Mpofu.
However, ZEC only responded 8 days later, on 30 June, after it had already gazetted the challenged names.
In the letter, signed by one E. Mamvura on behalf of ZEC Chief Elections Officer Utoile Silaigwana, the elections management body said it cannot interfere with the decision of the Nomination Court. Reads the letter:
RE: INVALID CANDIDATE NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2023 HARMONISED ELECTIONS
We refer to the above matter and acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 22 June 2023.
Please note that we cannot interfere with the decision of the Nomination Court. After the sitting of the Nomination Court, a nomination officer becomes functus officio.
We also understand that there is a pending case on the issue raised in your letter. Kindly continue to seek legal redress on the matter.
Candidates have a right to appeal against decisions of nomination officers in terms of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13].
In a statement on 26 June, CCC national spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said the party had filed criminal charges against the fraudsters and also appealed to the Electoral Court.

Fly-By-Night Prophet Robs Bulawayo Followers

By- A Bulawayo-based self-styled prophet, Mduduzi Dube popularly known as Black Elisha is reportedly demanding between US$100 and US$150 for a one-on-one session or consultation fee for an audience with him.

Dube, who is the founder of Christ Life Generation Church defended charging consultation fees, a practice considered by some Christians to be contrary to the teachings of the Bible.

Speaking to B-Metro, Dube defended the practice saying the money is needed to make the prophet presentable and also to help develop the church and fund the preaching of the Gospel. He said:

Some people can only cope with being broke, they can’t manage with being blessed.

This is because if I bless you, after those consultations or one on one sessions your life will change immediately.

Life is a battleground and if you don’t create a strong atmosphere of prayers through one on one sessions with a man of God, you can’t access certain blessings because the kingdom of darkness is also interested in making those blessings not to get to you.

It’s just like asking why some people are patronising expensive restaurants. One of the reasons is the level of services being offered by those restaurants.

From having bread crumbs dusted off the table to be able to signal the staff with silverware placement to the staff’s knowledge of the dishes.

Presentation and the atmosphere are also some of the reasons. From how the table is set to how the food is placed on the plates. It displays a level of pride and attention to detail.

Likewise, as a true man of God who is blessing and healing people, I should not look wretched as you will take me as a bogus prophet or not have faith in my work.

That money from the consultation fees is used to help develop the church and some is used to preach the word of God and testify His goodness.

Last year, another Bulawayo-based self-proclaimed prophet Bruce Edwards (real name Bruce Ncube), founder of Kingdom Empowerment Centre Church (KEC) also sparked debate after it emerged that he was allegedly demanding a US$20 consultation fee for an audience with him.

Ncube was also reportedly taking US$6 for a seat from congregants who wanted to attend his lunch-hour services.

Minister’s Husband Who Filed Nomination Papers As Independent Dies In Suspicious Accident

A candidate who was barred from standing in Zanu PF primaries in Gutu West before deciding to stand as an independent has died after his vehicle fell off a bridge.

Christopher Mutonhori Rwodzi, a retired soldier and husband to tourism deputy minister Barbra Rwodzi, was travelling to Harare from Gutu on Thursday night.

Pictures of the accident scene showed the Toyota Prado broke through side barriers of a bridge between Chivhu and Harare before plunging into the dry riverbed below and landing on its roof.

Details of what caused the accident were not immediately available. The Masvingo Mirror, quoting Rwodzi’s father, said the politician died at the scene.

Although running as an independent candidate for the Gutu West National Assembly seat, Rwodzi’s vehicle was emblazoned with a picture of Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa. A sticker on the vehicle urged voters to “Vote Christopher Mutonhori Rwodzi – Independent Candidate 4ED.”

Rwodzi retired from the military with the rank of colonel.

Zanu PF held its primary elections in April, leaving the party deeply divided as losing candidates claimed the elections had been “rigged” in favour of preferred candidates by an organisation called Forever Associates of Zimbabwe (FAZ).

To contain the fallout, Zanu PF threatened losing candidates who ran as independents with expulsion.

Rwodzi was prevented from running in the primaries, allegedly over pending disciplinary issues.

Zimbabweans vote in general elections on August 23.

Good Samaritan Killed While trying To Stop Fighting Pair

Sidabulile Moyo (31) from Nkulumane suburb had good intentions to break up a fight but it nearly turned fatal when he was axed thrice on the head and fell unconscious.

A bystander who witnessed the scary incident unfolding said while Moyo was at a sports bar in Nkulumane suburb he saw his friend Lance Moyo fighting with a man named Mgceleso Hlabangane and rushed to them.

Upon reaching the fighting pair he tried to break up the fight but things turned nasty for him when Hlabangane drew a small axe from his jacket’s pocket and axed him thrice on the head.

“Moyo fell to the ground and bled profusely before he fell unconscious,” said the witness.

Hlabangane quickly bolted out of the sports bar and fled.

Moyo was carried to his home where he was later rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical attention. The incident was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Hlabangane.

He is set to appear before a magistrate at Western Commonage Court facing an attempted murder charge.

Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident.

“We would like to urge community members to involve third parties like relatives, respected figures in the community like elders, councillors, pastors or police when they are faced with disputes.

“They should not take the law into their hands because such actions might lead to unnecessary loss of life,” she said.

Family Suspects Foul Play In Independent Candidate’s Death

Independent candidate for Gutu West Christopher Mutonhori Rwodzi (53), who died in a car accident last night, will be buried on Sunday at the family’s rural homestead at Aarons’ Village, formerly Mushaike Stores in Fairfields, Mvuma.

His older brother Aaron Chenjerai Rwodzi confirmed the arrangement to The Mirror. He said mourners are gathered at the homestead.

Mutonhori died after his vehicle a Toyota Prado Landcruiser VX, plunged 18 metres into a dry riverbed on the 10km peg at Honeyspot along the Harare Highway.

He was the husband of the Deputy Minister of the Environment, Climate Change, Tourism and Hospitality industry, Barbra Rwodzi. The couple has three children, two boys and a girl.

Aaron said they suspect foul play in Mutonhori’s death as he was a disciplined driver who drove the same route at least four times a week.

“My brother will be buried at Aaron’s Village, formerly known as Mushaike Stores in Farefields on Sunday around midday. The accident is mysterious. He drove on that road at least four times a week. He was driving a Toyota Landcruiser along a rehabilitated road. I went to the accident scene last night but could not make sense of it.

“We have lost the family’s vanguard. The accident is unspeakable. We got the news when a Police officer answered his phone and told us that an accident had occurred. The vehicle fell on its roof and he was trapped inside,” said Aaron.

Mutonhori, a retired senior soldier, was contesting against Zanu-PF’s youth league deputy chairperson and incumbent legislature, John Paradza after he was disqualified before the party’s primary election.

He also had an altercation with party provincial chairperson Rabson Mavhenyengwa and secretary for commissariat Brian Munyoro on Wednesday last week at the nomination court after they ordered him to remove a sticker branded Independent 4ED on his vehicle.

Mutonhori was born in 1970 and attended Mvuma Primary School. He moved to Harare and finished his primary school at Highlands Junior School. He enrolled for his ordinary level at Prince Edward and completed it in 1988. He was attested into the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) in 1988 and retired in 1993. He held several posts in the army and retired as a colonel.

He joined the family’s business as a director and went to the United Kingdom (UK), where he did consultancy work. He returned to Zimbabwe and founded Mugandani Foods, which produces Silver Star products.

Mutonhori established a security consultancy firm, which he was the director of at the time of his death. Mutonhori was Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) director in Zimbabwe.

I Will Deliver Justice For Gukurahundi Victims, Presidential Candidate Promises

Presidential aspirant Rev Dr Gwinyai Muzorewa, the leader of the United African National Council (UANC) has vowed to deliver justice for Gukurahundi victims in the Matabeleland and Midlands provinces.

Rev Muzorewa is continuing the legacy of his late older brother, Abel, who was the founding leader of the party.

Addressing members of the media at a press briefing in Bulawayo, Friday, he said victims of Gukurahundi deserve justice and as a government in waiting, they will ensure that the victims are apologised to, compensated and led through a healing process.

“It is a pity that after 1980, the Zimbabwean government started to victimise its own people. It pains my heart but that is the reality, that is what happened. It is not a rumor nor is it gossip. What I believe that our party will do to make a difference is we will not continue to support the perpetrators. What I would encourage the people to do is to continue to look at other types of leadership,” he said.

“Our party is committed to making a difference, not by bringing decisions from outside but by asking the affected people of Matabeleland to make decisions and recommendations of what they need. After all they are the ones who were hurt, you cannot expect the person who slapped you on one cheek to come and make you feel better. If you are the one who hurt me, leave me alone. I must look for someone who’s going to be able to heal.”

Rev Muzorewa said as a party they intend to have traditional leaders from the affected provinces to hold higher offices in government so that they may be able to lead the process by engaging the victims and upholding their recommendations on how to address the matter.

“We need people in leadership positions from Matabeleland to hold influential offices so that, because they are the ones who were hurt, they can be able to put policies that make sense for the affected people. The government should be able to compensate these people financially, emotionally and otherwise. Apologising alone will never be enough. After apologizing, we need to begin the healing process. The healing process is not forced. What heals is the spirit of humanity among us,” he said.

The party’s deputy president and aspiring MP for Bubi, Chief Bekezela Nyathi, said he relates to the genocide as his family was also affected, and should they be voted into power, they will see to it that justice is served for the victims.

“I am one of those who was affected by Gukurahundi, and this is a matter that is close to my heart. When this happened, I was around three years old, and my father almost died during that genocide. I understand the effects of that whole turmoil. Right now, there are some victims who do not have national documentation because of that genocide,” Chief Nyathi said.

“Should we be voted into power, we will make sure that this issue is resolved, and the affected people get justice and are also compensated accordingly. Compensation in terms of the homes that they lost, their livestock as well. There is only so much that can be compensated financially but yes, they do deserve to get something.”

Bribery: A Cancer Eating Away at Society

By Noxolo Ndazi | Bribery is a social vice that has been around for centuries. It is an act of giving or receiving something of value in exchange for influence or action in return. It is an unethical practice that undermines the rule of law and the principles of fairness and justice. Bribery is a cancer eating away at society, and it has far-reaching consequences that affect everyone.

One area where bribery is rampant is in the real estate industry. Land is a valuable asset, and its acquisition can be a highly profitable venture. However, the process of acquiring land is often riddled with corruption, and bribery is a common tool used to facilitate the process. This was the case for a group of women who bought land together but were shortchanged in the transaction due to bribery.

The women had formed a group to buy land together, under the umbrella of Qoki Women Dreamers. However, because this group was not registered as a company, the group leader ended up using her company, Qoki Zindlovukazi Ltd, as a special purchase vehicle unbeknownst to the group members. This meant that the land technically belonged to the group leader and her co-directors, and the other women did not have a binding contract with the company. As a result, they were shortchanged in the transaction, and sadly the land was not rightfully theirs. This was not the only hurdle.

Another concern was the inflated charges, bribery for subdivision permits and questionable authenticity of pivotal documents such as, agreement of sale and title deeds. The process of obtaining subdivision permits for the land would have been challenging due to its classification as stateland. The land had been gazetted by the government under the land acquisition act, which meant that it could not be sold or subdivided. However, the group leader and her directors used bribery to bypass this process and obtain the permits illegally as confessed by the group founder, Ms Sithule Tshuma on a recorded call (audio has been circulating around). It is a shame that the lady who recorded the call has been victimised, The paradigm has been shifted. Instead of focusing on the illegal act, the focus is now strangely on the recorder? One wonders if these women are within their right frame of mind? How can the focus be on the trivial, least of the thorny issue? This is beyond the writer’s comprehension or any sensible person. It is unfathomable, as common sense would have it, that act falls within the specifications of what constitutes a bribe according to Zimbabwean law which states that;

‘ Section 170 of the Criminal Code provides that bribery occurs when an agent obtains or gives any gift or consideration as an inducement or reward for doing or omitting to do any act in relation to their principal’s affairs, whilst knowing that there a real risk or possibility that such gift or consideration is not due in terms of any agreement or arrangement between the agent and the principal, (Qoki in this case)’.

Bribery has far-reaching consequences that affect everyone. It undermines the rule of law and the principles of fairness and justice. It also perpetuates inequality and poverty by creating an uneven playing field where only those with money and power can succeed. Bribery also erodes trust in institutions and undermines democracy, as people lose faith in their leaders and the systems that govern them. The governing legal framework for bribery in Zimbabwe consists of the following;

● The Prevention of Corruption Act [Chapter 9:16]
● The Anti-Corruption CommissionAct [Chapter 9:22]; and
● The Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23] (theCriminal Code)

All of the above legal statutes are applied and read with the following international instruments to which Zimbabwe is a party to:

● The UN Convention against Corruption (2004)
● The African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption (2003)
● The SADC Protocol Against Corruption (2001)

To combat bribery, there needs to be a concerted effort by all stakeholders. Governments need to strengthen their laws and institutions to prevent and punish bribery. Citizens also need to be vigilant and report cases of bribery to the authorities. The media also has a role to play in exposing cases of bribery and holding those responsible accountable.

In conclusion, bribery is a cancer eating away at society. It undermines the rule of law and perpetuates inequality and poverty. The case of the group of women who were shortchanged in a land transaction due to bribery is just one example of the far-reaching consequences of this unethical practice. To combat bribery, there needs to be a concerted effort by all stakeholders to strengthen laws and institutions, be vigilant, and hold those responsible accountable.

Suspected Robber Shot On The Buttocks While Fleeing Crime Scene

A suspected armed robber from Lupane is battling for life in hospital after being shot by police on the buttocks while fleeing a crime scene where he and four accomplices still at large, attempted to rob a bank.

Zenzo Siziba (44) is being closely guarded by police at St Luke’s Hospital where he is admitted, and from where he appeared before Lupane magistrate Barbara Phiri to answer to a charge of armed robbery under aggravating circumstances.

He was not asked to plead to the charge and was remanded to his hospital bed until 12 July.

The magistrate advised Siziba to approach the High Court for bail.

Siziba and his alleged four accomplices allegedly pounced on a security guard at Agribank in Lupane and threatened him with a gun while ordering him to leave the scene.

The suspects then used a hammer to break open the baking hall door upon which they blasted a money safe.

The five armed robbers, however, fled from the bank before taking any money after being busted by the police who opened fire and shot Siziba as he and his accomplices fled.

Prosecuting, Zandile Ndebele said Isaac Sibanda, who was on duty guarding the bank, heard the alarm system and, upon checking, saw the suspects near the door.

The suspects produced a gun and pointed it at Sibanda and ordered him to leave the scene and he ran away and later phoned the bank manager who alerted the police.

Suddenly there was an explosion in the bank.

Before the robbers could take any money, police arrived and fired three warning shots into the air.

The armed robbers fled from the bank and police shot Siziba and later arrested him.

From Siziba, police recovered a satchel with two computer hard drives, three used capped fuses, one dynamite, a screwdriver, a hammer and a shifting spanner.

The hard drives had been stolen from the bank.

There has been an increase in cases of armed robbery in the country amid concerns about access to guns by members of the public, with the suspicion that some are former police and army officers.

Food Poisoning Outbreak: 10 Individuals Admitted to Murehwa Hospital

In a concerning incident, ten individuals were admitted to Murewa District Hospital on Wednesday due to suspected food poisoning. The victims, hailing from the Wuyuwuyu area, experienced stomach problems shortly after consuming vegetables that were suspected to have been sprayed with harmful chemicals. According to witnesses, the victims had gathered at a farmer’s homestead where they were employed to shell maize. Among those affected were the farmer’s wife and his three-year-old grandchild. Health workers have since visited the location to investigate the cause of the stomach aches.

Details of the Incident:
The unfortunate incident took place at a local farmer’s homestead where a group of individuals, totaling 16, were engaged in shelling maize. It is reported that the victims had breakfast consisting of tea and cowpeas before consuming a lunch of sadza (a staple food in Zimbabwe) with vegetables and chicken. Additionally, they drank mahewu, a traditional fermented maize drink.

Upon consuming the meal, several individuals started experiencing stomach discomfort, prompting concern among their peers. Out of the 16 people who had partaken in the meal, ten were subsequently admitted to Murewa District Hospital for medical attention. The remaining individuals were reportedly treated and discharged.

Investigation and Response:
In response to the incident, health workers swiftly visited the farmer’s homestead to investigate the source of the suspected food poisoning. Their primary objective is to identify the possible cause and prevent further outbreaks. A villager health worker has been assigned the task of compiling a comprehensive report detailing the events and circumstances surrounding the incident.

Unfortunately, attempts to contact Mashonaland East provincial medical director Paul Matsvimbo for comment have been unsuccessful, as his mobile phone remains unreachable. Nevertheless, the seriousness of the situation has caught the attention of local authorities and individuals within the community.

Noah Mangondo, a Zanu PF Murewa South parliamentary candidate, acknowledged the incident and expressed his concern. Mangondo has taken it upon himself to mobilize resources to assist in paying the medical bills for the affected villagers, demonstrating the community’s solidarity and support during this trying time.

The suspected food poisoning incident that occurred in the Wuyuwuyu area, resulting in the admission of ten individuals to Murewa District Hospital, has raised concerns within the community. As health workers continue their investigation, it is crucial to determine the cause of the poisoning to prevent similar incidents in the future. The support and assistance provided by individuals such as Noah Mangondo in paying the medical bills highlight the importance of community solidarity during such unfortunate events. Authorities should remain vigilant to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals, emphasizing the need for proper food handling and hygiene practices.

Oman Give Chevrons Anxious Moments

IN an encounter many had read as a walkover victory, the Zimbabwe national men’s cricket team was given a run for their money by Oman in their International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup Qualifiers Super Six encounter at Queens Sports Club this Thursday afternoon.

Zimbabwe who eventually won by 14 runs had shivers sent down their spine as Oman came in full force to make sure that they would not go down without a fight sending the encounter to the last over.

The determined Oman side did not read much on the paper but proved that anything can happen on the cricket outfield, giving their all to challenge the hosts despite chasing a mammoth 333-run target.

On a wicket that analysts had forecasted 270 runs to be a good score to defend, one would have written Oman off when Sean Williams inspired the Chevrons to a total of 332 runs.

Oman had other ideas proving their intentions from the word go as they put on 29 runs in just 4 overs before Blessing Muzarabani was introduced into the attack and immediately got the breakthrough with the wicket of Jatinder Singh.

Proving to be a man on a mission, opener Kashyapkumar Prajapati went on to score a brilliant inning of 103 off 97 balls to match his best score against the United States of America.

In doing so the batsman imprinted his name in the history books as his knock is the first century by an Oman batsman against an ICC full-member team.

It was a record-breaking fair for Oman as Prajapati’s ton helped the ‘underdogs’ reach 300 runs for the first time in an official match against an ICC full member nation, before reaching their highest-ever total in One Day Internationals (ODIs) match.

The Zimbabwe Cricket Supporters Union had to be on top of their game to motivate the lads back into the game, as their team was slowly losing grip of the match thanks to some beautiful batting displays from their opponents. The fans were reading a different game altogether with their energy levels increasing timely and again as if their team had the upper hand.

Earlier on, Sean Williams had activated the records mode by joining the elite class of a few Zimbabwean batsmen to score back-to-back tons in ODIs.

Williams was ruthless with the bat picking up from where he left off against the USA to score 142(109) taking his run tally of the tournament to 532, thus maintaining his grip as the qualifiers’ top run scorer.

Despite losing partners on the other end, to the bowling of Fayyaz Butt who ended with figures of 4 for 79, Williams was in beast mode latching on to anything loose to grab himself another big score.

With a chance to prove himself bowler cum all-rounder Luke Jongwe scored a quick-fire 38 runs to propel Zimbabwe to their second-highest score of the tournament.

Zimbabwe now need one victory from their two matches to qualify for the World Cup in India later this year. They however face a tough task in their next match against a Sri Lanka side that is in red-hot form on Sunday. – ZBC News

Focus On The Ball, Citizens Told

30 June 2023

Citizens Coalition for Change Namibia urges fellow countrymen and women, boys and girls who subscribe to the national democratic revolution led by the organic leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa to focus on the minimum reforms necessary for free, fair, credible, and unfettered elections in Zimbabwe. Despite the hurdles exhibited by the candidate selection process which left some disgruntled, it’s now time to bury the hatchet and soldier on. At this juncture, our focus is the complete removal of ZANU-PF’s incompetent government.

Our dream is a functional and effective administration championed by dutiful and politically conscious social democrats who put citizens at the centre of governance. It is now imperative for all change seekers home and abroad to unite ahead of the historic watershed elections scheduled on the 23rd of August 2023. We demand a government with the capacity to put the economy on a sounder footing. Inhabitants are now sick of hyperinflation which has eroded their slave wages, workers in the motherland deserve living wages.

Namibia district encourages the Citizen’s Movement to exert pressure on the captured ZEC to release a verifiable voters roll now! We are quite cognizant to the fact that ZANU PF conniving with ZEC manipulates the roll to favour the incumbent unpopular and corrupt party. The voter’s roll must be audited well before the plebiscite. Let’s put political and diplomatic pressure on the regime to deliver minimum reforms before we participate in flawed elections.

The vibrant party should now recruit and thoroughly train loyal polling agents who are ready to defend the vote even with their blood. Courage is a permanent quality of a polling agent. We should make sure that we deploy polling agents at all polling stations across the tea-pot-shaped country. Zimbabweans have endured looting, corruption, bad governance, gross abuse of fundamental human rights, abject poverty, and a high unemployment rate for decades. It is now time to reason together as citizens so that we can remove ZANU-PF on the 23rd of August.

Strength of purpose should unite us now or never! What we desire is a quality health fraternity! Our craving is a sound education system with handsomely paid teachers and other educators! What we anticipate is a Zimbabwe that is free for all! We demand a democratic dispensation in the motherland on the 23rd of August. Change champions should continue reminding the populace to vote for jobs and better living conditions. The citizen’s movement is the only panacea to the socio-economic transfiguration in the fatherland. Unity! Unity! Unity! Unity! Is all that Zimbabweans need to win big and defend big! Let’s unite now change champions, this is a polite plea from social democrats in the Namibia district.

On another note, citizens should not forget to demand the immediate release of political prisoners such as Hon Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala, the ZINASU Six, Jacob Ngarivhume, and all prisoners of conscience. Job Sikhala has endured more than 365 days caged at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison on concocted charges. We demand justice, freedom, and equality. Job Sikhala is innocent! This gross abuse of human rights is part of the intimidation and vote rigging ahead of the watershed elections in August. Sikhala is a source of inspiration for many change champions hence his perpetual incarceration is an attempt to deter them from speaking the truth to power.

In a nutshell, Zimbabweans must shelve self-interests for the betterment of all and sundry. After all, we can’t have everyone leading. In the future, we hope to perfect our internal processes. Pilot projects always come out with some flaws here and there. Let’s soldier on!

Chevrons Overcome Battling Oman

– ZBC News

President Chamisa Launches 2023 National Campaign

CCC President Nelson Chamisa will launch his August 2023 national campaign in Mash Central on the July 8-9 weekend. He confirmed this to his Parliamentary, Proportional representatives and Senatorial candidates in Harare today. The focus is on boosting votes in Mash Central, he said.

ZEPs Humble SA Government

By-The Zimbabwe Exiles Forum (ZEF), an organisation established by Zimbabwean political and economic refugees residing in South Africa, has welcome a ruling by South African courts on the Zimbabwe Exemption Permits (ZEP) case.

The North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria ruled that South Africa’s Home Affairs Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi’s decison to terminate the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP) was unlawful, unconstitutional and invalid.

Speaking to IOL, Advocate Gabriel Shumba from the ZEF said the ruling shows that there is rule of law in SA and an indicator of the country’s constitutionalism.

He said they anticipate that Motsoaledi will engage in discussions with stakeholders to find a mutually agreeable solution moving forward. Said Shumba:

We hope that this small group of people, who have given so much to the economy and have tried to comply with the laws, will not be sacrificed on the altar of political correctness.

The court challenge was mounted by the Helen Suzman Foundation (HSF), Consortium for Refugees and Migrants in South Africa (CORMSA), the All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied of South Africa (ATDFASA) and the Zimbabwe Immigration Federation.

Meanwhile, Motsoaledi said his department will appeal the ruling by the High Court.

He said he will also be challenging the court’s ruling in the matter of the Zimbabwe Immigration Federation and his department. Motsoaledi’s spokesperson Siya Qoza said:

The Minister has carefully studied the judgment and has taken legal advice on it.

The two judgments cannot go unchallenged as they set a dangerous precedent.

The finding of the court on the applicability or otherwise of sections 3 and 4 of the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act (PAJA) is highly questionable, particularly the requirement for public participation when a decision of this nature is taken, affecting a specified category of persons only. In this instance, the affected are Zimbabwean nationals.

The decision that the minister took not to extend the Zimbabwean exemptions involves weighing of policy considerations which falls within the domain of the executive.

Qoza questioned why the High Court granted an interim interdict which restrains government agencies from detaining or deporting ZEP permit holders, saying the Minister had already issues a directive to that effect. He said:

It is not clear as to what is the purpose of interdict when in fact the minister issued directives to ensure that the affected Zimbabwean nationals continue to enjoy the protections afforded by the directives.

The last minister’s immigration directive was issued on 7 June 2023. Since the Minister took the decision, no Zimbabwean national has been threatened in any manner whatsoever and/or deported.

They continue to enjoy freedom of movement between South Africa and Zimbabwe and anywhere, as pleaded in the affidavits filed in court on behalf of the minister showing significant movements to and from Zimbabwe by the affected Zimbabwean nationals and their families.

Qoza added that Motsoaledi “will do everything in his power to ensure that the immigration laws of the Republic of South Africa are enforced without fear or favour.”

Ramaphosa Off The Hook

South Africa- The office of the Public Protector has cleared President Cyril Ramaphosa of any wrongdoing in the Phala Phala farm saga after a year-long investigation.

Phala Phala is Ramaphosa’s private game farm near Bela-Bela, Limpopo, South Africa where hundreds of thousands of cash in US dollars was stolen on 9 February 2020.

IOL reported that Acting Public Protector Kholeka Gcaleka released her report where she found that Ramaphosa had not breached the Executive Code of Ethics in the whole saga.

She said there was also no conflict between the president and his private interest on the farm.

The complaint against Ramaphosa was lodged last year June by opposition parties after it emerged that US$582 000 was stolen from the game farm.

Gcaleka also found that Ramaphosa was not involved in the sale of buffalo to a Sudanese businessman, who is based in Dubai.

She and her team established that the president was not involved in the day-to-day operations of the farm.

Gcaleka released her report into Phala Phala on Friday, 30 June 2023. Part of the report reads:

Therefore, the evidence does not support the allegations that the president’s financial interest in game or cattle farming at Phala Phala farm exposes him to any situation involving the risk of a conflict between his official responsibilities and his private interests.

Accordingly, the allegation that the president improperly and in violation of the provisions of the executive code exposed him to any risk of a conflict between his constitutional duties and obligations and his private interests arising or affected by his paid work at Phala Phala farm is not substantiated.

Meanwhile, Ramaphosa’s head of security, Wally Rhoode, has been found to have abused the powers entrusted to him when he investigated the theft at Phala Phala farm.

Zanu PF Wants 15 Chamisa MPs Disqualified

By- Zanu PF has targeted 15 CCC aspiring MPs and wants them to be disqualified from contesting elections saying that they registered to participate in the election after the stipulated time.

Zanu PF’s Finance Secretary, Patrick Chinamasa, stated that the candidates’ nomination papers were submitted after the 4pm statutory deadline, and the law is “peremptory” about compliance. He said the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission had no legal right to accept nominations from candidates who were not within the court by 4 pm on June 21, 2023. ZANU PF has directed that litigation be urgently instituted for the disqualification of the nomination of the CCC candidates who submitted their papers out of time, in contravention of section 46 (7) and (8) of the Electoral Act. Chinamasa said:

1. With respect to the Harmonised Elections slated for 23 August 2023.21 June Wednesday 2023 was gazetted as the nomination day to receive nominations for National Assembly Election Candidates and Party List Election Candidates.

2. With respect to the time frame within which nomination papers are to be submitted Section 46 (7) and (8) of the Electoral Act Chapter 2:13) provides as follows:

No nomination paper shall be received by the nomination officer in terms of Subsection (6) after four o’clock in the afternoon of nomination day or. where there is more than one nomination day for the election concerned, the last such nomination day.

Provided that, if at that time a candidate or his or her chief election agent is present in the court and ready to submit a nomination paper in respect of the candidate the nomination officer shall give him or her an opportunity to do so. 8. The nomination officer shall examine every nomination paper lodged with him or her which has not been previously examined by him or her in order to ascertain whether it is in order and shall give any candidate or his or her chief election agent an opportunity to rectify any defect not previously rectified and may adjourn the sitting of the court for that purpose from time to time: Provided that the sitting shall not be adjourned to any other day that is not a nomination day-.

3. The provisions of the law arc peremptory. To comply with the 4pm statutory deadline for the submission of nomination papers the candidate should be within the Nomination Courtroom with a validly signed nomination paper and the requisite nomination fee. The law is also peremptory that any adjournments for purposes of rectification of defects shall not be to any other day that is not a Nomination Day. In the instant case 21 June 2023 was the gazetted Nomination Day.

ZANU PF says the following CC’C candidates submitted their nomination papers out of time:

1)). Kapoikulu surrender (Bulawayo Central)

2). GumedeMinehle Ntandoyenkosi (Bulawayo North)

3). Watson Nicola Jane (Bulawayo South)

4). Sibanda Pashor Raphael (Cowdray Park)

5). Bajila Collins Discent (Emakhandeni/Luveve)

6). TshumaDingilizwe (Entumbane/Njube)

7). Dube Prince (Entumbane/Njube)

8). Gono Dereck (Lobengula/Magwegwe)

9). Makaza Desmond (Mpopoma/Mzilikazi)

10). Manduna Obert (Nketa)

11). Moyo Desire (Nkulumane)

12). Moyo Soneni (Pelandaba/Tshabalala)

13). Siziba Gift (Pelandaba/Tshabalala)

14). MahlanguSichelesile (Pumula)

15). Mhlanga Albert (Pumula)

Added Chinamasa:

5. In short the CCC candidates referred to above were not in court with signed nomination papers and nomination fee by the time the Nomination Court closed at 4pm on 21 June 2023. As the above will show the Nomination Court sat on 22 June 2023 again in contravention of section 46 (7) and (8) of the Electoral Act.

6. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission had no legal right to accept the nominations referred to from candidates who were not within the court by 4pin on 21 June 2023. Further, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission had no legal right to sit as a Nomination Court on 22 June 2023 to receive and accept nomination papers from CCC candidates referred to above.

7. We are aware that failure by CCC candidates to submit their nomination papers on time were due to the structureless, constitutionless and banking accountless organisation that CCC is. It was illegal for ZEC to receive and accept nomination papers awaiting the signature of some CCC Official who was in Harare at the time the Nomination Court closed at 4pm on 21 June 2023. Equally, it was illegal for ZEC to accept payment of nomination fees after 4pm on 21 June, 2023 and to wait for the payment from a CCC Official who was said to be still in Harare as at 4pm on 21 June 2023.

8. The law is “a ass” and must be obeyed and complied with.

9. Accordingly ZANU PF has directed that litigation be instituted urgently for the nullification of the nomination of the CCC candidates mentioned above and whose papers were submitted out of time in contravention of Section 46 (7) and (8) of the Electoral Act( Chapter 2:13).

Law expert, Thabani Mpofu, suggests that ZANU PF’s decision to ask a court of law to disqualify CCC candidates is significant.

Zimbabwe will hold harmonised elections on August 23, 2023.

The nomination court sat last Wednesday, and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) stated that only candidates who had submitted their papers but had difficulty making payments could register, even beyond the stipulated time. The commission rejected late submission stating that any nomination paper submitted after the proclamation date was in breach of the constitution.

Why Chief Murinye Was Bashed By Villagers: Mavaza

Chief Murinye Assaulted Amidst Land Dispute with Mugabe Clan

By Dr. Masimba Mavaza | Masvingo, Zimbabwe – Chief Murinye, born Mukoma Ephius Munodawafa, was subjected to a violent attack during a funeral held on Wednesday, June 28. The incident took place at the funeral of Jairos Zindoga, the son of headman Zindoga, and has shed light on a longstanding land dispute between the Murinye and Mugabe clans. Chief Murinye, known for his outspokenness against corruption, believes that the assault was motivated by this land boundary conflict.

Masimba Mavaza

The attack on Chief Murinye occurred when he attended the funeral of Jairos Zindoga, where he was met with hostility from the Zindoga family, particularly the widow, Linda Mugaviri, who is a prominent CCC activist. Mugaviri has expressed a lack of respect for traditional leaders, viewing them as mere representatives of the president. Chief Murinye alleges that the incident was instigated by the Mugabe clan, with the aim of encroaching on his territory.

In his statement regarding the attack, Chief Murinye explained, “Yes, we were attacked by the in-laws of village head Zindoga and some from the Chikarudzo area. There are a lot of lies and conspiracy theories being said, but the truth of the matter is that we went there to stop them from burying their relative at a sacred place. We even gave them an alternative place, but they refused. People from the Mugabe area are behind this; they want to cause chaos and encroach into my area. This is my area, and no one from Mugabe has a right over it.”

Chief Mugabe, also known as Matubede Mudavanhu, denied the allegations and accused Chief Murinye of encroaching into his land. He expressed his disdain for Murinye, stating, “Murinye is the one who encroached into my land. He is supposed to vacate the area. He is insane. What happened at the funeral has nothing to do with me.”

The root cause of the conflict lies in a historical dispute over land ownership. The Murinye and Mugabe clans share a common ancestry, with Chief Mugabe being the third-born son of Chief Murinye. Chief Murinye assigned governance of certain areas to his sons, including Mugabe, who later donated land to missionaries, leading to his promotion to chief status. However, the present Chief Mugabe now seeks to claim jurisdiction over Boroma, a region governed and historically associated with the Murinye clan. By burying Zindoga in this disputed area, Mugabe’s actions were seen as a direct challenge to Chief Murinye’s authority.

The assault on Chief Murinye took place when he attempted to negotiate with the Zindoga family about the burial location. However, tensions escalated, and the chief was attacked by both men and women, managing to escape with the assistance of a few outnumbered police officers.

The institution of traditional leadership has played a significant role in the governance of Zimbabwean communities for centuries. However, during the colonial period, the powers of traditional leaders were eroded and corrupted by the colonial government. Today, traditional chiefs serve as dispute resolution personnel within their communities.

In light of the escalating conflict between Chief Murinye and Chief Mugabe, it is crucial for the two chiefs to seek arbitration through respected traditional leader Chief Charumbira. This would prevent further violence and allow for a fair resolution to the land dispute.

As Zimbabwe heads into election season, it is imperative that the culprits involved in the assault on Chief Murinye be held accountable. Chief

Murinye should pursue legal action against the Zindoga family and ensure that justice is served.

The incident serves as a reminder that respect must be fostered among leaders and their constituents. Leaders should strive to create communities built on trust and respect, while disputes and conflicts should be resolved through proper channels and not through violence.

Justice for our chiefs is essential in maintaining peace and stability within our communities.

CCC Namibia Urges Change Champions To Focus On The Ball

Fanwell Sibanda Dies

Fare Thee Well Fanwell Sibanda: We Lost A Patriotic Journalist

By Dr. Masimba Mavaza | Fanwell Sibanda, a journalist par excellence, has left a void that will be hard to fill. His illustrious career and unwavering dedication to the field of journalism made him a highly sought-after professional in the industry. After more than four decades in daily journalism, Fanwell bid farewell to the world on June 25th, 2023, in Harare. As we reflect on his life, it becomes clear that he was not only a good man but also a major influence on the careers of many journalists in Zimbabwe and beyond.

Fanwell Sibanda….

Fanwell Sibanda was more than just a journalist; he was a mentor to a newsroom filled with both experienced veterans and aspiring newcomers. His presence alone brought pride to the news agencies he worked for, as he consistently achieved his own goals while helping others to reach theirs. Fanwell possessed a rare ability to uplift those around him, constantly inspiring and empowering his colleagues to grow and realize their potential. He never hesitated to recognize and give recognition to those who were previously unknown or unacknowledged, making Zimbabwe forever grateful for his tireless efforts and unwavering dedication.

A country’s strength lies in the presence of strong journalists, and Fanwell was undoubtedly one of the most influential and impactful scribes Zimbabwe has ever seen. He fearlessly embraced challenges, never shying away from difficult tasks, and constantly pushed the boundaries of his own capabilities. His unyielding positivity, unwavering dedication, and steadfast work ethics set him apart as an exceptional team player, a trait that will be cherished and missed by all who had the privilege of working with him.

In my own journey as a journalist, I found solace and guidance in Fanwell’s presence. He was not only a great journalist but also a tough taskmaster and a supportive boss. I often had the opportunity to sit with him in my office, witnessing firsthand the numerous calls he received from journalists across the country, seeking his counsel and support in their careers. Fanwell possessed a brilliant intellect and a sensitive nature, capable of taking any piece of writing and making it better. He was not just an editor; he was a source of life lessons and wisdom from his writing office.

The work of great editors often goes unnoticed, taking place behind the scenes. Yet, the impact of an editor’s efforts can be seen in the final product. Fanwell inspired countless journalists to strive for excellence, a testament to his exceptional leadership qualities. It is only fitting to honor him with a farewell wake, a social practice that acknowledges his invaluable contributions.

There is a saying that “it’s the people who make a place great,” and I can confidently say that we were the fortunate ones to have shared our lives with Fanwell. For those who were blessed to know him, words are unnecessary to describe the incredible person he was. Farewell to our hero, who has played his final game. Though the club may never be the same without him, his legacy will endure in ink and paper. He was always gracious in both victory and defeat, a remarkable feat that earned him the title of the club’s best and fairest eight times. Heroes come and go, and eventually, time catches up with us all. However, Fanwell Sibanda will forever remain a credit to the code of journalism and a true testament to his unwavering commitment to his country and its people.

Today, we bid farewell to a hero, a man as rare as they come. Though his physical presence may be gone, his fame as the country’s greatest writer will live on.

Headman Edmore Mungoni Accused of Terrorizing Villagers and Usurping Ancestral Land under Chief Chikwaka’s Jurisdiction

MUREWA – The peaceful village of Murewa under the jurisdiction of Chief Chikwaka has been thrown into turmoil as allegations of terrorization and land grabbing have emerged against Headman Edmore Mungoni. According to distraught villagers, Mungoni has resorted to threats and intimidation, leaving the community living in fear and distress.

The accusations against Mungoni involve the unlawful seizure of ancestral land and subsequent sale of plots to his cronies for personal gain. Villagers claim that anyone who dares to challenge his actions is promptly branded an enemy and summoned to his court, where they face harsh repercussions.

Residents, who wished to remain anonymous for fear of retribution, disclosed to our publication that Mungoni has repeatedly defied Chief Chikwaka’s order to cease his oppressive behavior. Despite the chief’s intervention, Mungoni continues his reign of terror, causing further distress among the villagers.

In addition to the land disputes, Mungoni is accused of imposing fines on his subjects in the form of goats. These penalties have left villagers burdened with financial strain, as they struggle to meet the demands of their oppressive leader.

“The situation in our village has become unbearable,” lamented one resident. “We are constantly living in fear, and our voices are being silenced. Mungoni’s actions have caused untold suffering, and we call on the Ministry of Local Government to urgently intervene and restore peace to our community.”

The allegations against Mungoni extend to his management of the village administration as well. Villagers claim that he habitually dismisses village heads who dare to challenge or defy his orders, thereby leaving the community without proper leadership and exacerbating their troubles.

To further deepen the concerns surrounding Mungoni’s conduct, it has been alleged that he maintains strong connections within the Murehwa Magistrates Court. Distressed villagers have reported incidents in which defiant individuals were taken to court by Mungoni, even when their cases were still pending.

As the villagers endure the ongoing torment, they fervently hope for swift action from the relevant authorities to bring justice to their community. The Ministry of Local Government is implored to investigate the allegations against Mungoni, and if found guilty, to take appropriate measures to protect the rights and well-being of the villagers.

Chief Chikwaka’s intervention and subsequent restraining order have proven ineffective in curbing Mungoni’s reign of terror. It is crucial that the authorities step in to restore peace and security, ensuring that justice prevails and the rights of the villagers are safeguarded against any further oppression.

Brand New Mnangagwa Car Involved In Accident

the car at the collapsed bridge, as a result of the crash

By Farai D Hove | In a shocking turn of events, an Emmerson Mnangagwa branded car was involved in a horrific car accident at an unnamed bridge along the Chivhu-Harare highway. The unfortunate incident occurred just weeks after the distribution of other similar vehicles. Pictures of the accident scene clearly show the wrecked pickup truck (in shiny tyres), with its distinctive branding from the Gutu West constituency, and a distinct Mnangagwa (for ED) insignia.

Part of the wreckage from the accident

Details surrounding the accident remain scarce at this time, leaving many questions unanswered. However, what is evident is that this is the second vehicle in a row associated with Emmerson Mnangagwa to be involved in a car crash.

A local paper reported saying: Gutu West independent candidate, Christopher Mutonho Rwodzi died last night in the crash and his father confirmed the death to The Mirror.

The politician was travelling to Harare from Gutu, the Mirror reported.

The pickup truck, adorned with the recognizable branding of the Gutu West constituency, appeared mangled and unrecognizable. The impact of the crash was severe, leading to speculation about the condition of the occupants and their well-being.

The incident comes as a blow to the already controversial vehicle distribution program initiated by Emmerson Mnangagwa’s party ahead of the 2023 elections.

Lovedale Mangwana’s Bid To Block Kasukuwere From Challenging ED Delayed

High Court judge Justice David Mangota on Thursday deferred to 12 July a case where a ZANU PF member is challenging Saviour Kasukuwere’s presidential candidature, reported NewsDay.

The ZANU PF member, Lovedale Mangwana early this week approached the High Court seeking to block Kasukuwere from contesting for the presidency on 23 August.

He argued that Kasukuwere, who is in self-imposed exile in South Africa, is not eligible to contest for the presidency having been out of the country for 18 months.

According to his draft order, Mangwana wants it declared:
That the decision of the nomination court sitting at Harare on June 22, 2023, to accept the first respondent’s nomination paper and candidature (for) election to the office of President of the Republic of Zimbabwe in the elections scheduled to be conducted on August 23, 2023, is conduct which is in violation of applicant’s constitutional rights as set out in sections 56(1), 67(2)(a) and 67(3)(a) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, 2013.

That the decision of the nomination court sitting at Harare on June 22, 2023, to accept first respondent’s nomination paper and candidature for election to the office of President of the Republic of Zimbabwe in the elections scheduled to be conducted on August 23, 2023 is declared null and void and of no force and effect and hereby set aside.

That first respondent is not a candidate for election to the office of President of Zimbabwe in the elections scheduled to be conducted on August 23, 2023.

Kasukuwere and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) were cited as respondents.

The former ZANU PF Politburo member is among 11 candidates that successfully filed their nomination papers to contest the presidential elections.

The other ten candidates are Joseph Busha (Free Zim Congress), Nelson Chamisa (CCC), Trust Chikohora (ZCPD), Blessing Kasiyamhuru (ZIPP), Lovemore Madhuku (NCA), Douglas Mwonzora (MDC), Emmerson Mnangagwa (ZANU PF), Wilbert Mubaiwa (NPC), Gwinyai Henry Muzorewa (UANC), and Harry Peter Wilson (DOP).

Mmusi Maimane Blames ANC For Immigration Crisis

South African opposition leader, Mmusi Maimane, has blamed the ruling African National Congress (ANC) for the immigration crisis in that country by “enabling” corruption and oppression in Zimbabwe by the ZANU PF.

Maimane, who is the leader of Build One South Africa, made the remarks after the Pretoria High Court ruled that the termination of Zimbabwe Exemption Permits (ZEPs) was unconstitutional.

The ZEP permits were due to expire today, 30 June, by the South African Government had already given ZEP holders a further six months to regularise their stay or face deportation.

Maimane, who is a former leader of South Africa’s biggest opposition party, the Democratic Alliance (DA), South Africa has a role to defend democracy in Zimbabwe. He said:

The ANC government has for years enabled corruption and oppression in Zimbabwe by the ZANU PF.

How? They ignored rigged elections and farm invasions. Instead of putting out the fire next door, they gave Mugabe and Mnangagwa matches and paraffin.

The fire that burned created the immigration crisis we are living with. That South Africa is paying for.

The courts have no choice but to uphold refugee laws and the constitution. If we want to solve the immigration crisis we have to go directly to the root of the problem namely the dictatorship in Zimbabwe.

We must stop supporting elections that are not conducted in a free and fair environment, we must stop supporting elections that are rigged and we must stop allowing South African banks to be used by money laundering members of the Gold Mafia.

We cannot keep supporting ZANU PF because of what they did during the liberation struggle. They are now the oppressor.

We must be honest and direct with them and tell them that we cannot afford to keep paying the bill for their oppression and corruption. Time is up.

To solve this issue we need to make sure that there are free and fair elections in Zimbabwe in August. That doesn’t happen in August, it starts now.

South Africa has influence on Zimbabwe and we must use it, more than we use our influence on Russia and Ukraine because this is happening in our neighborhood…

The immigration crisis was caused by a democracy crisis in Zimbabwe. As a robust constitutional democracy, we have a role to advance democracy in Africa and to defend democracy in Zimbabwe.
To solve the immigration crisis in South Africa we must go directly to the source of the problem. We must treat the disease and not just the symptoms.
If the ANC government does not want to cut ties with ZANU PF and be non-aligned in Zimbabwe then we must vote for leaders who are not afraid and who are willing and able to hold leaders in neighboring countries accountable for the problems they create for South Africa.
Last week ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula said illegal migrants are putting a heavy strain on South Africa’’s fiscus with adverse effects on service delivery and high unemployment, among other things.
Mbalula made the remarks while addressing the ANC 9th Western Cape Provincial Conference over the weekend.

South Africa To Appeal Against Judgement On Zimbabwean Exemption Permit Holders

Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has announced that his office will apply for leave to appeal against two Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP) judgments handed down by a full Bench of the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria this week.

The full Bench found against Motsoaledi on two different judgments, both relating to the ZEP.

In the first, the court found that Motsoaledi’s decision to terminate the ZEP was invalid, unlawful and unconstitutional.

Since 2009, eligible Zimbabweans have been granted exemption permits allowing them to live and work in South Africa. This specific type of permit, now known as the ZEP, was introduced for those who fled to South Africa due to their home country’s economic and political strife.

The ZEP was due to expire in December 2021. Motsoaledi decided not to renew the permit, which affects more than 178 000 people, and extended the expiration deadline to the end of June 2023, which was later changed to December 2023.

The court found that the minister did not follow a fair process before making his decision, which should have included consultation with and an opportunity for ZEP holders to make representations.

The court also said Motsoaledi did not consider the impact his decision would have on the holders and that the decision was an unjustified limitation of rights on those affected.

The full Bench set the decision aside and ordered that the matter go back to Motsoaledi for reconsideration, following a fair process that complied with the requisite legislation.

The court also declared that, pending the process, the ZEP will be deemed to remain valid for the next 12 months.

News24 reported that in the second judgment, the court ordered Motsoaledi not to arrest or issue deportation orders for ZEP holders and that they be allowed to leave and return to South Africa.

Judgments can’t go unchallenged

In a statement on Thursday, Motsoaledi’s spokesperson Siya Qoza said the minister had carefully studied the first judgment and took legal advice.

“The two judgments cannot go unchallenged as they set a dangerous precedent,” Qoza said.

The statement said these precedents are the findings of the court on the applicability of certain sections of the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act (PAJA), which the Department of Home Affairs said was “highly questionable, particularly the requirement for public participation when a decision of this nature is taken, affecting a specified category of persons only. In this instance, the affected Zimbabwean nationals.”

It added: “The decision that the minister took not to extend the Zimbabwean exemptions involves weighing of policy considerations which falls within the domain of the executive.”

The minister also believes that judgment deals with matters relating to the separation of powers, which he believes is another “strong ground for appeal”.

On the second judgment, the department said Motsoaledi would challenge the outcome of the matter on the same basis as the first judgment.

“It is not clear as to what is the purpose of [the] interdict when in fact the minister issued directives to ensure that the affected Zimbabwean nationals continue to enjoy the protections afforded by the directives,” Qoza said.

“The last minister’s immigration directive was issued on 7 June 2023. Since the minister took the decision, no Zimbabwean national has been threatened in any manner whatsoever and/or deported.

“They continue to enjoy freedom of movement between South Africa and Zimbabwe and anywhere, as pleaded in the affidavits filed in court on behalf of the minister showing significant movements to and from Zimbabwe by the affected Zimbabwean nationals and their families.”

According to the statement, Motsoaledi has already instructed his legal team to launch an application for leave to appeal against both judgments.

“The minister would like to take this opportunity to assure the nation that he will do everything in his power to ensure that the immigration laws of the Republic of South Africa are enforced without fear or favour.”

Teachers Slam Abuse Of Pupils By Zanu PF

teachers artuz rural teachers

MASVINGO-The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has launched a petition against politicians using school pupils, premises and resources as buses during the election season.

The petition seeks the prohibition of school officials from communicating political message, banning teachers from spreading their political views to students, coercion of teachers and students to participate in partisan politics, wearing party regalia and erecting campaign material as posters and billboards in school premises.

ARTUZ president Obert Masaraure told The Mirror that the petition began last week and will be submitted to international organisations.
School premises, pupils and busses are usually used or hired by politicians during the election period.
“We are campaigning against the abuse of school properties by politicians in pursuit of political power. Politicians must leave schools when they are doing their rallies because on most cases pupils have been left disadvantaged.

“Our thrust is to protect schools from political interference because many schools were abused by politicians and political parties must never coerce members of the school system to donate to their private political activities… www.twonations.co.zw

Efforts To Curb Child Sexual Exploitation Intensify

RUSHINGA district has recorded the highest number of child sexual exploitation cases in Zimbabwe, with the government and its partners engaging traditional and religious leaders in Mashonaland Central province to curb the vice.

Chiefs and religious leaders in Mashonaland Central province have been roped in the fight to curb child sexual exploitation, with statistics showing that one in every two girls in the province is married before the age of 18.

The figures from the 2019 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey also show that the Rushinga district has the highest figures.

“Unless we find strategies to ensure that girls and women have a chance to reach their full potential, the country’s development remains elusive individually and collectively we can work together to get all girls in school and keep them there. It is within our capacity as leaders to plant seeds for the future of our girls,” said the Permanent Secretary for Women Affairs Community Small and Medium Enterprises Development Mr Moses Mhike.

Chiefs and religious leaders who met in Mazowe on Monday welcomed the drive to end the social ill.

“In our culture, a child is never married before reaching 20 or 21 years.

This is foreign to us and some do it in the name of culture which is wrong. In Rushinga we are close to the border with Mozambique so you find there it’s not a crime and some marry children and migrate there or import their culture,” said one resident.

“We welcome this fight against child marriages. In Shamva we already have bylaws to fight child marriage and we hope with this intervention other Chiefs will adopt such laws,” added another resident.

The campaign is being implemented in Rushinga under the theme: ‘Give me a chance. I’m a child, not a wife.’

“Our campaign is aimed at that girls need a chance to do what they desire to do in life. Part of the campaign you will see on radio, TV, and social media but we will see that it’s important for us to get into the community because those are the high prevalence areas. And we go there to have conversations with the traditional and religious leaders,” said a Representative for Population Services for Health Mrs Varaidzo Mabhunu-Maniwa.

The initiative will be taken to every district of Mashonaland Central province, with traditional and religious leaders have signed a pledge to work with stakeholders in their communities towards ending child sexual exploitation.- ZBC News

WIFE RETURN: Man Gets Lobola Back

Lobola Refund: The Unsettling Love Triangle in Vokola Village, Matabeleland South Province.

In the quiet village of Vokola, nestled within Insiza South District of Matabeleland South Province, an unusual tale of love, betrayal, and cultural customs has unfolded. Godfrey Nkala, a man who recently married Nobubelo Thebe, found himself at the center of a perplexing situation when his wife left him to marry her former teacher, Mthandazo Matshilo Dube. The story took an unexpected turn when Godfrey received a lobola refund of R13,000 from Dube, marking a peculiar resolution to this entangled love triangle.

A Controversial Love Story

The love story began when Dube, who was a teacher at Mkwabene Secondary School in Insiza South District, fell in love with Nobubelo Thebe, one of his pupils. Allegedly, their relationship blossomed during Nobubelo’s time in Form Four, and it continued even after her graduation. Meanwhile, Dube was married to an unnamed woman who had passed away approximately three years ago.

When Godfrey and Nobubelo got married in early 2022, it seemed like a promising union. However, Nobubelo’s affection for her former teacher resurfaced, and she eventually decided to marry Dube. The sudden turn of events left Godfrey in a difficult situation, but he managed to secure a surprising lobola refund from Dube amounting to R13,000.

The Lobola Refund

According to sources close to the matter, Godfrey’s family only paid a portion of the lobola (bride price) since Godfrey intended to take Nobubelo to South Africa with him instead of following the customary practice of visiting his in-laws. Consequently, when Nobubelo and Godfrey agreed to part ways, Godfrey’s family received a refund of R13,000 from Dube through a mediator. Later, Dube’s representative paid an additional R5,000 as amalobolo, expressing regret for the delay caused by organizing a memorial service for his late wife.

Denials and Emotional Turmoil

When contacted for comment, both Dube and Nobubelo denied the allegations. Dube threatened the reporter, insinuating that his reputation was being tarnished. Nobubelo, on the other hand, stated firmly that she was not ready for marriage and dismissed the entire story as falsehoods.

The Repercussions and Community Response

While the situation has caused turmoil within the families involved, it has also drawn attention from the community. Bethwell Khumalo, speaking on behalf of the Thebe family, confirmed the incident and explained the circumstances that led to the lobola refund. He acknowledged that the new couple, Dube and Nobubelo, had been dating for a long time, starting when she was still a student. However, Dorothy Nkala, Godfrey’s aunt, expressed disappointment in Nobubelo’s decision and revealed that the family felt unwelcome in their church community, where Nobubelo serves as a preacher.

The Brethren In Christ Church (BICC), where both families fellowship, has yet to receive an official announcement regarding the incident. While the church does not condone divorce outside of cases involving adultery, the leadership has not been formally informed and is waiting to take appropriate action.

The love triangle involving Godfrey Nkala, Nobubelo Thebe, and Mthandazo Matshilo Dube has left Vokola Village abuzz with rumours and speculations.

FAZ Fraudster Continues To Upset Chamisa

CCC Member Defies Party, Refuses to Withdraw Candidature Despite Ultimatum.

Marondera Central Constituency – In a surprising turn of events, Mr Misheck Manyere, a member of the CCC (Coalition for Change), has decided to defy his own party and proceed with his candidacy for the upcoming elections. This move comes despite the party’s 24-hour ultimatum for him and others to withdraw their nominations. The CCC had officially endorsed Mr Caston Matewu as the candidate for the Marondera Central Constituency, but Manyere claims that he was the one selected by the party’s controversial selection panel.

Both Manyere and Matewu successfully filed their nomination papers, a decision that has exposed the senior party officials for their apparent preference for a deeply discredited candidate selection system. Over 40 candidates in total have defied the CCC and filed their nominations under the party’s banner, resulting in some constituencies and wards having two or three CCC candidates.

The chaotic situation emerged due to the secretive candidate selection system employed by party leader Nelson Chamisa, who single-handedly selected candidates to represent the party. The selection process was mired in controversy, with candidates being informed of their fate only near the closing time of the nomination court. This resulted in a last-minute rush of CCC candidates invading nomination courts across the country, forcing Zimbabwe Electoral Commission officers to work beyond official hours to process their applications.

The CCC has responded to the situation by threatening legal action against candidates who filed their nominations using the party’s name, arguing that they did not have proper clearance. However, the defiant candidates maintain that their nomination papers were in order and that they were the legitimate choices in their respective areas.

In an interview, Mr Manyere expressed his confidence and determination to stay in the race, brushing off the party’s threats. He claimed that his candidature had the support of party supporters and emphasized that he would not withdraw his application. Manyere accused Mr Matewu, the party’s preferred candidate, of misrepresenting the outcome of the party’s selection process.

“I had a significant number of people who nominated me during the selection process, while he had only a few. I have the support of the people, which is why they are urging me not to withdraw. The citizens love me,” Manyere stated defiantly. He further asserted his belief that he would win the Marondera Central Constituency seat and announced plans to embark on election campaigns for the CCC across the constituency.

Responding to allegations that he had forged signatures and received assistance from Forever Association Zimbabwe (FAZ), a Zanu PF affiliate, Manyere vehemently denied any wrongdoing. He argued that the authorized individuals had signed his nomination papers and refuted the involvement of FAZ in his candidacy.

As of now, Mr Matewu, the party’s endorsed candidate, has not provided a comment regarding the ongoing situation. Efforts to reach him via the provided mobile number were unsuccessful, and messages sent through WhatsApp remained unanswered.

The standoff between Mr Misheck Manyere and the CCC raises questions about the party’s candidate selection process and highlights the internal divisions and controversies that have marred its preparations for the upcoming elections. With the party threatening legal action and multiple candidates refusing to withdraw, the situation remains uncertain. The CCC now faces the challenge of maintaining unity and ensuring a coherent campaign strategy in the midst of this internal conflict.-state media

Wife Bites Off Small House’s Ear During Fight

A 22-year-old woman from Glendale, Mashonaland Central province, had a terrifying encounter that she will never forget when she had half of her right ear bitten off during a fight with the alleged lover’s wife. Shamiso Acid found herself in a violent altercation after being discovered in an intimate situation with Philda Pamela Makuwa’s husband, Casper Makwara.

The incident took place on February 1st at around 3 pm near Glendale Corner Bar, specifically at Glendale Spinners. Makuwa, accompanied by two other unidentified women, confronted Shamiso, who was in the company of Makuwa’s husband. As the confrontation escalated, a heated argument ensued, leading to physical violence against Shamiso.

Eyewitnesses reported that the situation quickly turned into a physical assault, with Shamiso being targeted all over her body by the enraged Makuwa and her companions. The attack persisted until Shamiso fell to the ground, defenseless against her assailants.

Seizing the opportunity, Makuwa sank her teeth into Shamiso’s right ear, biting off approximately half of it. Only when Casper Makwara intervened was Makuwa restrained from inflicting further harm. Shamiso, severely injured and bleeding from her ear, immediately reported the incident to the police. Following her report, Makuwa was apprehended by law enforcement authorities.

Shamiso, needing immediate medical attention, was referred to a local hospital for treatment of her severe ear wound. Meanwhile, Makuwa faced the consequences of her actions in court. She appeared before Concession magistrate Joshua Nembaware, charged with assault.

During the hearing, Makuwa pleaded guilty to the charges brought against her. The magistrate sentenced her to pay a fine of US$200 or face four months of imprisonment. Additionally, a four-month prison term was suspended for five years on the condition that Makuwa refrains from committing any offense involving assault during that period. Failure to abide by this condition would result in imprisonment without the option of a fine.

In her plea for leniency, Makuwa emphasized that she had a three-week-old child and had experienced injuries during childbirth, which limited her ability to manage heavy workloads.

The case drew attention to the grave consequences of violent confrontations and the importance of resolving disputes peacefully. Incidents of this nature serve as a reminder of the need for dialogue, understanding, and non-violent conflict resolution methods within society.

Precious Khanye represented the State in the case.
