Who Are Set To Be the Stars of Royal Ascot 2023?

Royal Ascot is a horse racing meeting that is followed around the world. The best horses from across the globe compete in the respective divisions in Flat racing and everyone involved dreams of winning one of the races across the five days.

Here is a look at some of the stars that will be in action this year at the royal meeting.

Inspiral Set to Return in Queen Anne Stakes

With victories in the Group One Coronation Stakes and Prix du Jacques le Marois, Inspiral ended 2022 as one of the leading milers in the sport. She missed out on the opportunity to win a British Classic due to a setback early in the campaign, but she made up for that lost time.

John and Thady Gosden’s runner is the 3/1 favourite in the horse racing latest odds for the Queen Anne Stakes, the opening race of the 2023 Royal Ascot meeting. She is set to take on the Godolphin duo of Modern Games and Native Trail.

The daughter of Frankel will make her seasonal reappearance in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury. That outing should ensure she heads to Royal Ascot in peak shape.

Australian Sprinter Coolangatta Entered in King’s Stand Stakes

Australia have had a lot of success in the sprint races at Royal Ascot in recent years. They have a great chance of more glory this year with star filly Coolangatta. The three-year-old is already a two-time Group One winner.

Ciaron Maher and David Eustace’s runner won at the highest level for the first time last September when she prevailed in the A J Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley. She then doubled her Group One tally on her opening appearances of 2023 as she landed the Black Caviar Lightning.

Her trip to Royal Ascot will be her first outing outside of Australia. She will take on Highfield Princess and Tenebrism two horses who had a lot of success in Europe in 2022, and former The Everest winner Nature Strip, who is set to return to the meeting following his victory last year.

English And French Derby Winners Set for Prince of Wales Clash

Last year’s English and French derby winners, Desert Crown and Vadeni respectively, are two of the runners expected to contest the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes this year. Those two horses had excellent three-year-old campaigns and their connections will be hoping they can replicate some of that success in open age company.

Unbeaten colt Desert Crown has not seen a racecourse since he won the 2023 Derby at Epsom. An injury ruled him out of the second half of the 2022 Flat season in Europe. The 1m2f contest at Royal Ascot could mark his return to action.

Vadeni followed up his French Derby victory with success in the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown. The colt has appeared already this season. He had to settle for fourth place in the Prix Garny at Longchamp.

Royal Ascot 2023 takes place between 20th-24th June. There are a total of 35 races across the meeting at Berkshire-based racecourse in the UK.

Sikhala Jailed For Six (6) Months

By- A Harare magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa, has CCC deputy chair Job Sikhala to six months or a US$600 fine on charges of obstructing the course of justice.

Magistrate Gofa sentenced Sikhala after finding him guilty of the charge.

In her ruling, she said the State was able to prove that Sikhala was the one who authored and posted the video recording, which claimed that ZANU PF members killed the late Ali.
“The court is satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that Sikhala was the one who recorded and uploaded the video.
“Sikhala was aware that police were investigating the murder case but he went ahead to make utterances that misled the police investigations,” she said.
She added that the evidence led by the State witnesses corroborated each other, and Sikhala is found guilty of obstructing the course of justice.

BREAKING: Another Magistrate Convicts Job Sikhala

By A Correspondent| Harare Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa has convicted Zengeza West legislator Job Sikhala on charges of obstructing the course of justice.

This comes hard on the heels of the conviction of Transform Zimbabwe leader Jacob Ngarivhume last week.

Ngarivhume has since been sentenced to four years in prison.

Former Minister Completes 16 Months Jail Term

Former Cabinet minister Petronella Kagonye has completed her 16-month jail term for theft of trust property, her lawyer Rungano Mahuni confirmed yesterday.

Kagonye was jailed in June 2022 for having converted laptops donated by the Postal and Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) to personal use during her time in office.

The laptops were meant to support rural schools under the e-learning project.

She was sentenced to three years in jail, but 12 months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

A further eight months were suspended on condition that she reimburses Postal & Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe US$10 000, leaving her with an effective 16-month jail term.

The court took into account the fact that she committed the offence while she was the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare.

The court said one of her key result areas was to enhance social protection of vulnerable groups in the country, but she acted in the contrary.

Kagonye never rested after she was jailed complaining that her sentence was harsh and excessive.

She filed several applications which were all turned down by the High Court.

Her last appeal in October last year was dismissed by judges of appeal, Justices Rodgers Manyangadze and Benjamin Chikowero.

“The sentence does not shock us. If anything, it appears to err on the side of leniency. But that is beside the point,” said the judges.

They said Kagonye was the best person to have appreciated the need to take the laptops to rural schools as a way of removing some of the barriers to accessing education.

Bread Prices Soar

THE average price of a standard loaf of bread shot to $1 800 which is equivalent to US$1,70 at the official exchange rate of $1 059,60 to the greenback.

This represents a 109% hike on the $860 that was being charged mid-last month for the same loaf.

In an interview with a local daily yesterday, Consumer Council of Zimbabwe executive director Rosemary Mpofu said the consumer watchdog had noted with “great concern” increases in prices of basic commodities such as bread.

“Consumers are currently facing numerous challenges from high consumer prices, low wages and incomes. With schools set to open soon they will be further hard pressed in paying school fees, levies and buying uniforms with some schools said to be demanding foreign currency payments only,” Mpofu said.

“We appeal to retailers, producers and monetary authorities to dialogue and address issues driving prices high, among them being the volatile foreign currency exchange rates, in order to contain run-away price hikes causing untold suffering to consumers, meanwhile urging consumers to seek other healthy alternative foodstuffs, home grown, in order to cushion themselves against high prices.”

National Bakers Association of Zimbabwe president Luckymore Zinyama said it had set the bread price at US$1, but different exchange rates were influencing the high prices.

Statistics by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe showed that the US dollar and the Zimbabwe dollar were trading at a weighted average rate of US$1: $1 059. On the parallel market, the local currency was trading at around $2 100 against the US dollar.

“We have not changed the wholesale price of our bread. It is still at US$0,90 and we expect the retailers to sell it for US$1,” Zinyama said.

Bikita Sinomine To Electrify Surrounding Rural Communities

By A Correspondent- Bikita Sinomine, a lithium mining company has started construction on a $22 million power line stretching 120km from Tokwe to Bikita in Masvingo Province.

The power line will supply electricity to Bikita Sinomine’s lithium mine and also electrify surrounding communities and businesses in Bikita, Gutu, and Zaka.

The state media reported that, the company has allocated $2 million for the electrification of these rural areas.

Mine manager, David Mwanza said the power line will ensure a reliable power supply for Bikita Sinomine’s mining and processing operations and provide electricity to surrounding communities.

He said:

This US$22 million project will guarantee us adequate and reliable power for our operations while at the same time providing electricity to communities. We have set aside US$2 million for the rural electrification programme.

Mr Mwanza said Bikita Sinomine has invested $200 million in Spodumene and Pestilent Plants, both requiring constant power supply. Work on the 120km power line from Tokwe to Bikita began three weeks ago and is expected to be completed by December. The company aims to achieve $750 million in annual revenue this year, depending on the completion of the new plants in June and July.

According to finance manager Mr Amanda Makausi, Bikita Sinomine is projected to reach an annual revenue of $1 billion by 2024. The Chinese investor Sinomine’s $300 million takeover of Bikita Minerals has resulted in rapid growth, increasing production from 3 000 tonnes to 10 000 tonnes per month since February 2022.

The new plants are expected to triple production to 30 000 tonnes per month once commissioned. The increased production has also significantly increased the mine’s contribution to the fiscus, with Bikita Sinomine now being one of the biggest tax contributors in Masvingo province. The company pays $150 000 monthly in employment tax, $3 million monthly in other taxes, and mining royalties.

Bikita Sinomine’s rapid expansion has reportedly resulted in the creation of 660 jobs, with an additional 1 400 expected after the completion of the Petalite and Spodumene plants. The company is also said to be offering competitive salaries to workers along with a monthly production bonus, which is 50% of their net salary.

“A Divided Opposition Will Not Dislodge Zanu PF”

Former Harare mayor Elias Mudzuri said a divided opposition will not be able to dislodge President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the ruling Zanu PF party from power in this year’s elections.

Addressing journalists in the capital yesterday, Mudzuri, who was expelled from the MDC-T where he was vice-president, said all opposition parties need to unite to topple the ruling party and its leader.

“There is division (among the opposition) because there is confusion. You don’t just follow each other because you want to defeat Mnangagwa. I don’t just follow a person because I want to beat Mnangagwa. I must do so when I believe that when we are together we are going to deliver. The opposition must do the right things that will make voters appreciate their presence,” Mudzuri said.

“It’s up to all the opposition leaders to start talking to each other and when we talk we must meet in our minds. Politics of disgruntlement is not enough. There are also proper processes that help deliver expectations of the people.”

Mudzuri said the MDC name was no longer appealing because of several splits.

Nelson Chamisa formed the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) last year after MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora snatched the party, its name, symbols and assets.

“How can you appeal when you’re not organised? You can’t follow a disorganised institution. We must preserve this MDC because it is the main institution that stood the ground against Zanu PF,” Mudzuri said.

“But the leaders who have been coming have chosen to go astray and leave what the party demands us to do.”

Mwonzora’s spokesperson Lloyd Damba described Mudzuri as confused.

“If a person is personally confused he must not mistake that for opposition confusion,” he said.

CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said there was no confusion in the CCC.

“There is no confusion in the citizens’ movement. We are a big tent that unites all progressive citizens genuinely opposed to Zanu PF in the fight to win Zimbabwe for change. Since our formation in January 2022, we have left no stone unturned to ensure that citizens who oppose tyranny, poverty and injustice across all provinces focus all efforts on bringing transformation to our nation,” Mahere said.

“We have no time to worry about what outposts of Zanu PF are doing. Our only goal is to win big this year so that we end the suffering of the masses and usher in a new great Zimbabwe with dignity, prosperity and freedom for all.”

Political analyst Kudakwashe Munemo said Mudzuri’s remarks were being driven by frustration.

“Opposition candidates must not just come together for the sake of sharing power, revive lost relevance and fulfil personal political goals at the expense of the majority,” he said.

Condolences Pour In For Hazel Jojo

Dearest Hazel (the one who is always next to me in any picture, not by coincidence, but that’s how close you were to me) It is with a heavy heart and tear-filled eyes that I write this letter to you. I wish I could tell you how much I miss you, my dear friend. It feels as though a part of me is missing, a void left by your untimely departure.

I am haunted by the day of your accident and the message you sent, asking me to call. I was busy and couldn’t call you back, and now I would give anything, even everything I own, just to hear your voice for 30 seconds. As your best friend, we’ve been through thick and thin together.

We bought the car that tragically took your life, and we purchased the land you were building on. The memories of our journey together are bittersweet. It is like losing too many soldiers in a war; even victory feels hollow because the cost was too great. I can’t help but question why this had to happen to you, Hazel. You were such a bright light in this world, filled with so much potential. We were supposed to go to that summit in the USA together, but now I must forge ahead without you.

Your recent 25th birthday celebration, which I had planned to surprise you with a dinner, will forever be etched in my heart as a reminder of our lost time together. Our friends are devastated, and we all gather in sorrow, asking God why He took you from us. I will miss our weekly rituals – the Nandos deliveries on Tuesdays and our KFC wings dates every Friday. They will never be the same without you.

Hazel, you were a champion for the girl child, believing that they should be more than just women. I want you to know that your legacy will live on through me. I promise to carry your message, your hopes and dreams, and make them a reality. Wherever you are, my dear friend, I hope you can read this letter.

I hope you know how much you mean to me and how deeply you are missed. I still wait for a message or a call from you, even though I know it will never come.

Until we meet again, Hazel, please know that you are forever in my heart.

With love and tears, Tendai

Tribute to Hazel Jojo

@HazelJojo2 A young bright, passionate & creative woman leader. We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss of a dynamic sister, friend, ally & valued asset to the women’s rights & SRHR sectors. Yet, we remain immensely inspired by her short earthly journey.

Julius Malema Blasts Zimbabweans For Failing Ngarivhume

South Africa’s main opposition leader Julius Malema, has urged Zimbabweans to stand up against the harassment of pro-democracy activists following the jailing of opposition politician Jacob Ngarivhume last week.

Ngarivhume was sentenced to four years imprisonment for calling for mass protests in 2020.

He will, however, serve three years.

“I was shocked to hear that the Zimbabwean government has jailed Jacob Ngarivhume @NgarivhumeJacob, for demanding accountability through picket lines on how COVID-19 funds were used in 2020 by kleptocratic politicians,” Malema, who is the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, tweeted.

“Sending an activist to four years imprisonment for simply holding different political views is pathetic.  Zimbabweans must learn to protect their own, particularly those who are the voice of the voiceless against the corrupt few. The truth will never be incarcerated; Africa we are one.”

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government has been criticised for shrinking the country’s democratic space by arresting critics and enacting controversial legislation.

One of the laws is the controversial Private Voluntary Organisations Amendment Bill which has been described by civil society as seeking to control the operations of non-governmental organisations at the forefront of exposing human rights violations, corruption and misgovernance.

Former Information minister Jonathan Moyo at the weekend said Mnangagwa was taking the country back to the dark days of Gukurahundi.

“Given sections 56, 58, 59, 60 and 61 of the 2013 Constitution, it beggars belief that any magistrate would be fooled by political prosecutors — some three months before a general election — into making a manifestly political decision to convict and impose a draconian sentence to knockout an electoral opponent of the sitting president, as a way of sending a chilling message to other presidential aspirants or voters,” Moyo posted on Twitter.

“Truth be told, the judiciary’s shocking mishandling of Bill of Rights cases these days is eerily reminiscent of the Gukurahundi years, when the Rhodesian State of Emergency retained between 1980 and 1990 was ruthlessly enforced.”

But Zanu PF information director Tafadzwa Mugwadi said Ngarivhume’s sentencing was befitting of the offence he committed.

“For the record, Ngarivhume was convicted for inciting and organising public violence,” Mugwadi said.

“There are so many opposition leaders in Zimbabwe who hold different political views with Zanu PF, the likes of (Douglas) Mwonzora, (Nelson) Chamisa, (Lovemore) Madhuku and many others who do not hold similar political views with Zanu PF, but they are not in jail.

“Unless Malema wants to tell us that Mwonzora, Chamisa and Madhuku hold similar political views with Zanu PF. No one knows what Malema smokes and how high or low it takes him, but what is clear is that what he is smoking is not good for him.”

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) deputy spokesperson Gift “Ostallos” Siziba yesterday said Malema’s remarks confirmed fears that Mnangagwa is an autocratic ruler.

“Comments by Malema have confirmed the failure by President Emmerson Mnangagwa. It shows the second republic, the new dispensation led by Mnangagwa is old wine in a new bottle. It has surpassed the late President Robert Mugabe post-Independence government in terms of closed democratic space,” Siziba said.

“President Mnangagwa has created a de-facto one-party State. The Bill of Rights under President Mnangagwa was long suspended thereafter denying Zimbabweans freedom of assembly and freedom of speech, the right to petition and demonstrate.”

A number of opposition activists and other government critics are facing various charges at the courts.

Recently, CCC spokesperson Fadzai Mahere was convicted on a law that the High Court ruled as invalid. She escaped jail by opting to pay a US$500 fine.

No Special Treatment For Mnangagwa’s Ambassador-At-Large

THE United Kingdom will not give any special treatment to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ambassador-at-large, Uebert Angel, who is embroiled in a money laundering and gold smuggling scandal, a minister said yesterday.

Conservative member Lord Peter Henry GoldSmith of Richmond Park made the remarks in response to a series of questions tabled in the second chamber of the UK Parliament by House of Lords member Jonathan Oates.

“Whilst Mr Angel holds a diplomatic passport he is not diplomatically accredited to the UK — countries are free to determine for themselves who they want to grant these passports to, but the passport itself does not confer any diplomatic status on the holder,” said GoldSmith who also serves as the Minister for Overseas Territories, Commonwealth, Energy, Climate and Environment at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

He added: “We cannot comment further on specific cases at this stage. The UK sees corruption as an important barrier to economic reform and inclusive growth in Zimbabwe. We engage with the Government of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission, civil society and other actors in the fight against corruption in Zimbabwe.”

There have been calls for the UK to freeze assets belomging to Angel, who in March 2021 was appointed Zimbabwe’s ambassador-at-large to seek trade and investment opportunities across the globe for the country. He has emerged as the Gold Mafia kingpin after he was secretly recorded by international news channel  Al Jazeera journalists spilling beans on gold smuggling and money laundering in Zimbabwe.

Angel said he could use his diplomatic cover to launder as much asUS$1,2 billion in dirty money.

Oates asked what steps the UK government would take, if any, to investigate the activities of companies whose named directors are alleged to have been involved in conspiracy to commit financial crime.”

Oates also asked what steps the UK would take to investigate Angel’s alleged British citizenship to ascertain whether he should retain his diplomatic status.

The arrest of Bothwell Makombe, Audrey Simbarashe Chimonyo, Tinashe Mabhiza, Brendon Musimurimwa, Rutendo Susan Makoni and Dickson Kudakwashe Manema has been confirmed by the police. Additionally, 21 cellphone handsets with a total value of over US$14,000 have been recovered.

The carnival lasted for three days from Friday night to Sunday night.

During the carnival, the suspects launched their raids on unsuspecting revellers from a private house in Mkhosana suburb where they were booked, while driving a Mercedes Benz

The suspects bought VIP entry tickets into the carnival which gave them access to every part of the event.

They would steal cellphones and put them in a cooler box which they allegedly carried as if it had beverages.

Alert police officers arrested the seven following a tip-off.

Protect Workers, ZCTU Told

MASVINGO-The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has expressed concern over the flaunting of labour practices, environmental laws and inhuman conditions exposed to locals by Chinese companies operating in the country.

The congress’ president Florence Mucha Taruvinga said those employed by the Chinese are literally slaves who do not have a say even over their safety.

She said this today at the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) organized national commemorations of the World Day for Safety and Health at workplaces held at the Civic Centre in Masvingo.
The commemorations were held under the theme: ‘Safe and Healthy Work Environment; A Fundamental Principle and Right at Work’.

Minister of Public Service, Labour, and Social Welfare Professor Paul Mavima was the guest of honour represented by his deputy minister Lovemore Matuke.
NSSA acting General Manager Charles Shava, representatives from the International Labour Organisation, Employers’ Confederation of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Unions, Delta Beverages, Bulawayo City Council, Mimosa Platinum Mine, Hwange Coal and Gasification Company and Doves Funeral Services and several others attended the commemorations.

“We have serious safety deficits in the Chinese-owned companies. We are calling on NSSA to protect the citizens and workers in Zimbabwe at Chinese workplaces. As organized labour, we recognize the statutes in Zimbabwe. As citizens of the country, we follow and act upon what governs us.- Masvingo Mirror

Teacher Rapes 11y Old Girl

Aleck Masomera (57) was convicted of raping an 11-year-old neighbour’s daughter after a full trial by Harare regional magistrate Mrs Letwin Rwodzi.

The State alleged that the accused proposed love to the complainant, but the girl rebuffed the advances. On the next day, the complainant went to the accused’s place and the accused allegedly raped her.

The court heard that on an unknown date but during the month of July 2022, and during the day the complainant enrolled with the accused for extra lessons.

It was the State’s case that the accused then started proposing love to the complainant but the girl rebutted the advances.

On the day in question the complainant went home after extra lessons and her grandmother asked her she had finished her assignments and she told her that she had not and her grandmother ordered her to go and finish the assignments.

The following day the complainant went to the accused’s place again.

It was alleged that the accused entered his bedroom and called the complainant who complied and sat on the bed next to him.

It was alleged that the accused then raped the girl.

Mnangagwa Coaxes War Collaborators

WAR collaborators have pledged their commitment to continue mobilising support for the ruling ZANU PF party and President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s progressive development mantra.

An engagement between the ZANU PF leadership and Zimbabwe Liberation War Collaborators Association (ZILIWACO) saw the war collaborators expressing confidence that the 5 million votes target is achievable on the back of mobilisation and education campaigns running under the theme: “Bereka Mwana Tiende Kunovhota”.

War collaborators also appealed to government to look into their welfare issues after the vetting exercise.

“As war collaborators, we support our party ZANU PF and we are going to work with the leadership in mobilising support. We launched our campaign Bereka Mwana Tiende Kunovhota and it has been a success encouraging our children to register to vote for President Emerson Mnangagwa,” noted ZILIWACO’s Pupurai Togarepi.

ZANU PF National Political Commissar Mike Bimha, who represented ZANU PF National Chairperson Cde Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri said the vetting of war collaborators as directed by President Mnangagwa is in progress.

“In line with Second Republic’s approach of leaving no one and no place behind it is important to attend to the huge number of war collaborators who were not vetted and those who registered appeals. The next step is to conduct a mop up vetting exercise once the resources are made available,” said Bimha

The provincial leadership in Masvingo has pledged to continue working with war collaborators in developmental programmes.

Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Masvingo, Cde Ezra Chadzamira weighed in, “We respect our war collaborators and we are ready to continue working with them in all our development programmes.”

The Second Republic has shown its commitment to addressing war veterans’ and collaborators grievances through aligning the Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Act to the constitution.- ZBC News

Citizens Thwart Mwonzora Thugs Violence

CCC Namibia salutes the Youth Task force in Chinhoyi!

01 May 2023

Citizens in Namibia are gyrating hysterically in uncontrollable gusto celebrating the valor, mettle, and nerve displayed by the organic Youth Task force in Chinhoyi defending our party offices. The ZANU-PF-sponsored political outfit, Mdc Alliance combined with their masters yesterday, attempted to take over the CCC party offices using violence. Mr. Douglas Mwonzora did not recover from the multiple zeros he got in March 2022 by-elections. He is now unleashing his outrage on a non-violent and progressive people’s movement led by the pragmatic Change Champion in Chief, President Advocate Nelson Chamisa.

Namibia district salutes the vibrant youths who managed to resist rogue elements claiming ownership of the offices when the issue is still in the courts. The clueless, counterfeit party depends on ZANU-PF when it comes to grabbing party properties. It is not the first time to see a cordial affinity between the Harare regime and their surrogates. When they grabbed the Morgan Tsvangirai House, they were openly assisted by the state-captured police and soldiers. Since time immemorial, the genuine Mdc has never gotten any assistance of that nature from ZANU-PF. It was visible that the people’s project has been hijacked by the regime’s enablers.

Instead of preparing for the impending crucial plebiscite, Mr. Douglas and his unpopular party are busy chasing offices instead of mobilizing the electorate. They know July or August will give them other humiliating zeros. It is written on the wall that MDC Alliance has pressed the panic button. The people of Zimbabwe are cognizant that this fake organization is a ZANU-PF-constructed institution meant to derail the freedom train. Their attempt to sabotage real change will never suffice. Citizens are committed and dedicated to prosecuting the National Democratic Revolution to its logical conclusion.

ZANU PF’s popular culture of politically- motivated violence is now manifesting in the surrogate. Stones, knobkerries, catapults , and matchetes are indications of defeat. Regardless of the support they got from their masters and mistresses, the youth task force executed their revolutionary mandate to defend the party from marauding political cowards. Mwonzora has realized progress in the CCC nomination and candidate selection process which is faring its conclusion as it now reaches the final fourth stage. Mr. Mwonzora left his jacket behind during the clash and the subsequent failure to take over the Chinhoyi offices.

In a nutshell, Mr.Douglas Mwonzora should be charged with incitement of public violence. We demand justice to be served without fear or favor. Hon Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala has endured long pre-trial detention for almost a year on trumped-up charges when Mwonzora and cronies in ZANU-PF are taking the law into their own hands because of impunity. We demand an abrupt end to the apparent selective application of the law. Citizens should be treated equally before the law. Advocates of a complete change in Namibia clamour for the independent administration of the law by supposedly competent and impartial courts.

We have noted with deep concern the illegal conviction of Transform Zimbabwe, President Jacob Ngarivhume. This attempt to ban the rule of law and constitutionalism should be opposed peacefully. Section 59 of the Supreme Law of the motherland provides the fundamental right to peacefully protest against gross abuse of human rights, corruption, looting, gold smuggling, chrome smuggling, money laundering, and weaponization of the law. Calling for a peaceful demonstration against senseless and bare-faced corruption does not warrant any arrest in Zimbabwe. This is just law fare!

We demand justice for all prisoners of conscience. Sentencing social democrats a 3-year jail term for castigating corruption is not only unconstitutional but illegal and beyond Satanism.

Mining Safety Tips

Compiled by Dr Ellane Simon

First aid should can be offered by anyone but ideally trained personnel to give first aid should offer first aid. When offering first aid always consider your personal safety first. Look out for any dangers and only act when you are confident it is safe to do so.
An unresponsive person is someone not moving or responding when you call them or when gently shaken.

Respiratory emergencies & CPR

  1. Check if breathing by tilting their head back and looking and feeling for breaths.

When a person is unresponsive, their muscles relax and their tongue can block their airway so they can no longer breathe. Tilting their head back opens the airway by pulling the tongue forward. If they are breathing, you will see their chest moving and you may hear their breath or feel it on your cheek. If breathing, move on to step two.

  1. Move them onto their side and tilt their head back. Putting them in this position with their head back helps keep their airway open. It ensures their tongue falls forward and blood and vomit drain out. It is sometimes called the “recovery position”.
  2. Call for help or an ambulance as soon as possible.
  3. If the patient needs CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), place the person on their back on a firm, flat surface and start giving chest compressions aiming for 30compressions in 1minute.
    How to do CPR
Hand position: Two hands centered on the chest
Body position: Shoulders directly over hands; elbows locked
    Depth: At least 5cm
Allow chest to return to normal position after every chest compression.

5 Give 2 rescue breaths (if equipment to do that available). Ensure each breath lasts about 1 second and makes the chest rise; allow air to exit before giving the next breath.

Gas leak, Fire & Burns

  1. Turn off gas if safe to do
  2. Evacuate the area immediately
  3. Do not switch any lights or start an open flame
  4. If there is fire use a fire extinguisher to stop the fire from spreading and ring the fire alarm alerting everyone to evacuate the building.
  5. If someone is on fire remove the person from the source of fire, drop and roll him or her over or cover him or her with a fire blanket.
  6. Cool burn under running water
  7. Protect the burn with sterile, non-adhesive bandage (DO NOT APPLY BUTTER OR OINTMENTS)
  8. Do not break blisters
  9. Call for an ambulance and send to hospital

Chemical spill

  1. Remove spoiled clothing
  2. If skin or eyes affected rinse immediately with clean running water
  3. If ingested do not induce vomiting and do not give water or mi unless told to d so by a health professional.
  4. If inhaled move the person to fresh air and give oxygen if available.
  5. After first aid is given send to hospital as soon as possible.

Facts About Cholera

Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal infection caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. Cholera remains a global threat to public health and an indicator of inequity and lack of social development.

Symptoms
Cholera is an extremely virulent disease that can cause severe acute watery diarrhoea. It takes between 12 hours and 5 days for a person to show symptoms after ingesting contaminated food or water (2). Cholera affects both children and adults and can kill within hours if untreated.

Most people infected with V. cholerae do not develop any symptoms, although the bacteria are present in their faeces for 1-10 days after infection and are shed back into the environment, potentially infecting other people.

Among people who develop symptoms, the majority have mild or moderate symptoms, while a minority develop acute watery diarrhoea with severe dehydration. This can lead to death if left untreated.

History
During the 19th century, cholera spread across the world from its original reservoir in the Ganges delta in India. Six subsequent pandemics killed millions of people across all continents. The current (seventh) pandemic started in South Asia in 1961, reached Africa in 1971 and the Americas in 1991. Cholera is now endemic in many countries.

Vibrio cholerae strains
There are many serogroups of V. cholerae, but only two – O1 and O139 – cause outbreaks. V. cholerae O1 has caused all recent outbreaks. V. cholerae O139 – first identified in Bangladesh in 1992 – caused outbreaks in the past, but recently has only been identified in sporadic cases. It has never been identified outside Asia. There is no difference in the illness caused by the two serogroups.

Epidemiology, risk factors, and disease burden
Cholera can be endemic or epidemic. A cholera-endemic area is an area where confirmed cholera cases were detected during the last 3 years with evidence of local transmission (meaning the cases are not imported from elsewhere). A cholera outbreak/epidemic can occur in both endemic countries and in countries where cholera does not regularly occur.

In cholera endemic countries an outbreak can be seasonal or sporadic and represents a greater than expected number of cases. In a country where cholera does not regularly occur, an outbreak is defined by the occurrence of at least 1 confirmed case of cholera with evidence of local transmission in an area where there is not usually cholera.

Cholera transmission is closely linked to inadequate access to clean water and sanitation facilities. Typical at-risk areas include peri-urban slums, and camps for internally displaced persons or refugees, where minimum requirements of clean water and sanitation are not been met.

The consequences of a humanitarian crisis – such as disruption of water and sanitation systems, or the displacement of populations to inadequate and overcrowded camps – can increase the risk of cholera transmission, should the bacteria be present or introduced. Uninfected dead bodies have never been reported as the source of epidemics.

The number of cholera cases reported to WHO has continued to be high over the last few years. During 2020 323 369 cases, 857 deaths were notified from 24 countries 3. The discrepancy between these figures and the estimated burden of the disease is due many cases not being recorded due to limitations in surveillance systems and fear of impact on trade and tourism.

Prevention and control
A multifaceted approach is key to control cholera, and to reduce deaths. A combination of surveillance, water, sanitation and hygiene, social mobilisation, treatment, and oral cholera vaccines are used.

Dzvukamanja Scores Fastest Goal Of Season

Terrence Dzvukamanja netted his fastest goal of the season in Orlando Pirates win over TS Galaxy on Sunday.

Dzvukamanja headed home a corner kick as early as in the 2nd minute to open the scoring.

The header became his fastest goal of the campaign and added to his five other strikes – also headers – that were scored in the previous rounds from January.- Soccer24 News

Shandirwa Steals Show

CAPS United fan Richard Sande was arguably the best dressed surpoter, of the reported 18 500 who attended Sunday’s Harare derby between the Green Machine and crosstown rivals Dynamos at the National Sports Stadium.

Clad in a white shirt, green hat and a green pair of shorts, Sande stole the limelight with his school uniform like attire.

He had a ‘manual’ which read “7 million ways to beat Dynamos.” He held it confidently and was very sure Lloyd Chitembwe’s charges would emerge victorious, understandably so considering their brilliant start to the 2023 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.

But in the end, DeMbare had one way to beat CAPS —a midfield masterclass by the trio of Donald Mudadi, Junior Makunike and Tanaka Shandirwa.

Of the three, it is Shandirwa who has been the most consistent for DeMbare this season.

The 23-year-old former Yadah man covered every blade of grass and was one of the most outstanding players, as Dynamos spoiled CAPS’ party with a 2-0 victory, courtesy of first half goals from Mudadi and Jayden Bakari.

Kante, as the ginger-haired midfielder is now affectionately-known in the blue half of the capital due to his resemblance as well as similar energy levels to Chelsea N’Golo Kanté, is definitely a player to look out for this season.- Soccer24 News

Chinese Companies Trample On Labour Laws

MASVINGO-The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has expressed concern over the flaunting of labour practices, environmental laws and inhuman conditions exposed to locals by Chinese companies operating in the country.

Mnangagwa Gold Runner Performs Rituals

By-Emmerson Mnangagwa’s gold front-man, Pedzisai “Scott” Sakupwanya, on Sunday, performed traditional rituals to ostensibly appease the spirits of several artisanal miners who perished at his Redwing gold mine in Penhalonga, Manicaland province.
The rituals were held at the mine with Sakupwanya’s company, Better Brands, funding the traditional ceremony.
A truckload of traditional beer brewed two weeks ago, was consumed at the ceremony, where a catering service company was hired to feed hundreds of people who attended the event, among them traditional leaders, Zanu PF bigwigs and artisanal miners.
This comes after government recently allowed the mine to resume operations after it was shut down by the Environmental Management Agency in January this year over safety concerns.
Sakupwanya is a key Zanu PF member and is expected to finance the ruling party’s election campaign this year.
He has also been previously pictured with President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House.
Civic groups from Manicaland claimed that more than 100 artisanal miners have died at Redwing Mine since 2020, but NewsDay could not independently verify the claims.
Since the mine reopened in March, there have been reports of new deaths which reportedly prompted Sakupwanya to initiate the Sunday cleansing ceremony following advice from the area’s traditional leadership.
Mutasa South legislator Misheck Mugadza (Zanu PF) confirmed yesterday that he was part of the gathering.
“Yes, we had a traditional ceremony for various reasons. There were traditional leaders and we were also celebrating the coming in of a new chief, (but) we were cleansing the area because of the deaths that have been recorded at the mine. It’s obvious that the company financed the ceremony because they are the ones who are operating at the mine,” he said.
Mugadza applauded Better Brands for the initiative.
Better Brands mine manager Alexio Guyo also confirmed the ceremony, but directed all questions about the event to the company’s general manager Cuthbert Chitima.
“I was not there, l am in Beatrice, but you can get in touch with Cuthbert Chitima,” he said.
Chitima’s phone was not being answered yesterday.
Penhalonga Youth Development Trust director Clinton Masanga said Better Brands conducted the rituals using traditional snuff and some rice that was sprinkled in the mineshafts to supposedly appease the spirits of departed artisanal miners.
“It was a traditional and ritual ceremony done at once. Traditional snuff and some grains of rice were thrown in the claims where some artisanal miners reportedly died,” Masanga said.
“The fact that they did the traditional ceremony or rituals is clear indication that they are aware of the deaths that have occurred at the mine.”
Masanga, however, said it was difficult to determine whether Redwing Mine had satisfied the safety demands made by Ema.
“However, it is important to note that traditional ceremonies and mining operations should not compromise safety measures and environmental regulations. The poor management of the mine by Better Brands Mining Company is a cause for concern and it is essential that the company improves (workers’ safety at the mine),” he said.
Masanga added: “If the traditional ceremony is conducted (and the mining company) violates the restrictions set by Ema, it could potentially lead to negative consequences such as harm to the environment or danger to the workers.”
Centre for Research and Development director James Mupfumi, who has in the past been vocal over mine deaths in Penhalonga, weighed in saying conducting a traditional ceremony was not enough to guarantee miners’ safety.
“I think the company was seeking to address the issue of mine deaths which have not stopped even after the company was closed,” he said. Newsday

Gaffa Targeted Again, Warned Against Playing Ibotso

By-THe regime has warned the celebrated Zimdancehall singer, Winky D, against performing his song Ibotso.

The song is on his latest offering, “Eureka Eureka,” and it discusses corruption and suffering in Zimbabwe, which has caused discomfort and controversy among government circles.

Winky D, made this revelation during his performance at the Fill UP Queens Sports Club, Byo Shut Down concert in Bulawayo.

This was his first public appearance in a month since his performance was cut short by police during a show at Damview Chikwanha Blue Rest Grill and Bat in Chitungwiza. He shouted in the midst of his performance:

Let me talk, I have been cautioned, I have been warned and they said if you sing that particular song there is going to be disaster; so, I do not want disaster here.

I want people to have fun, I want people to party, I want to see every gaffer in full enjoyment, every gaffer who is here to party. Can I see a signal early Sunday morning, I want every gaffer in the place, Maninja.

They want to arrest the music, they must leave the music to flow like the water in the river, they don’t have to control my playlist, I have to play what I want, I have to play what you want.

Winky D performed his old hit song “Gafa Party” at the concert, which includes the lyrics “Handiite Politics But Handibude MuParty Ini: I don’t do politics, but I will never leave the party.

After the show, he thanked his fans for their support in a post on his Facebook page.

Winky D’s album “Eureka Eureka,” which addresses social injustice, economic struggles, and government corruption in Zimbabwe, has caused friction between him and the authorities. Since its release, he has faced online harassment from supporters of the ruling Zanu PF party. Some ZANU PF-affiliated groups have even called for a ban on Winky D’s music, alleging that it causes “alarm and despondency” among the youth. Despite this, Winky D has continued to speak out against social issues in his music. He recently won the International Reggae & World Music Awards for Best African Dancehall Entertainer for the second time.

Gas Leak Safety Tips

Woman Arrested For Stabbing Stranger In Her House

Staff Reporter

By A Correspondent| A 25-year-old woman was arrested on Monday after allegedly stabbing an unknown man to death when she found him in her house.

According to the police, the woman returned to her house at around 01:25 and found it open.

Her house was reportedly dark due to a lack of electricity.

As she entered, she allegedly heard a man’s voice telling her that he was waiting for her. The man then allegedly grabbed her from behind and they started wrestling.

The woman then allegedly got hold of a knife and stabbed the man twice in his lower ribs. The man ran out of her house and fell to the ground, unconscious.

The scene was attended to by police officers and ambulance officials. The nurses declared the man dead at the scene. He was identified as Fans Dawids (35), and his body was taken to Keetmanshoop Police Mortuary for an autopsy to be conducted.

Police investigations continue.

Irrigation Schemes Should Promote Local Food Systems

While irrigation is touted as a solution to food and nutrition security under a changing climate, it may not be helpful if irrigation schemes set up in African dry regions focus on producing exotic or external commodities. In dry regions where small grains and small livestock grow naturally, it is common to see African governments, development organizations and the private sector promoting external crops like potatoes, sugar cane, wheat and lucerne at the expense of local food systems.
Image description
Instead of becoming a fall-back position for African communities, irrigation systems are undermining local food systems. A typical example is in an area called Nyanyadzi of Chimanimani district where more than 10 irrigation schemes produce a narrow range of commodities like sugar bean, wheat, tomatoes, onion, green mealies and, to a limited extent, cabbage. These crops are not linked to indigenous food systems but grown mostly for external markets. The main question is to what extent are Nyanyadzi communities benefitting from abundant irrigation schemes? Based on the notion of plot holders, the schemes are occupied by less than 10% of the total population. Besides producing very few crops for household consumption, the plot holders grow mostly for urban markets to meet basic needs. During the rainfall season, production is very low in these irrigation schemes because farmers go back to farm on the dry land where there is a whole indigenous food basket comprising legumes, small grains and others. Plot holders only return to irrigation schemes during winter when there is no production on the lands and in individual gardens. How do we ensure irrigation schemes do not suppress local food systems? From what is happening on the ground, it might be correct to conclude that most irrigation schemes are not really for community development or rural employment investments. When natural resources like soil and water are used to produce a few crops in a community that has more than 90% of its food basket comprising indigenous food produced through natural agroecological (AE) practices, irrigation systems become the entry point for replacing indigenous food systems.Instead of irrigation schemes being used as avenues for replacing indigenous food, why not use the irrigation schemes to enhance community food systems like groundnuts (fresh groundnuts all- year-round), pumpkins, muboora, munyemba and others? Why not propagate seedlings of indigenous fruits like matohwe and other foods in irrigation schemes? This would be a perfect approach in decolonizing local food systems through irrigation development. Ideally, irrigation schemes located in dry regions should be research hubs for diverse varieties of indigenous food and fruits for setting up huge plantations of indigenous food. That way, it becomes easy to commercialize indigenous varieties and foods including approaches for certifying indigenous seed using indigenous knowledge. With enough political will, several ways can be adapted to boost agroecology using irrigation systems within communities. When irrigation is used to produce indigenous pastures and grasses, it becomes a perfect example of decolonizing livestock production and diversify food baskets.Toward genuine avenues for building community resilienceClimate disasters like cyclones and droughts are indicating that building resilience should start with identifying key components of a community including what people have lost in their food systems which, if rebuilt, can prevent communities from depending on outsiders for everything. This can start with examining local food systems and how communities have been managing natural resources. It is also critical to look at community culture and tradition – how much of culture and tradition has been lost that was part of their community resilience? For instance, what was the role of traditional leadership that has been lost through infiltration by colonial systems. There is a visible trend where African indigenous vegetables, fruits, field crops and livestock have not received significant support to boast production, processing and value addition. Such support, given to exotic food, can be in terms of appropriate technology, research and documentation which is a key part of resilience and sustenance in a changing climate. On the contrary, most African countries are supporting colonial food systems that are replacing indigenous and local food systems driven by indigenous knowledge systems. This is in spite of overwhelming evidence showing that colonial food systems are not competitive enough to be a source of resilience since production is driven by outside factors like purchased seed with a cost component including inputs like fertilizer that are imported – exposing the whole community to dependence. Communities cannot be resilient when depending on external inputs.Need for new early warning systemsGiven the increasingly fluid nature of climatic conditions and natural regions, there is definite need for African governments to invest in tracking these trends within communities through systems that can capture all knowledges within communities including indigenous knowledge systems. In addition to discussing issues that matter to their context, communities should be capacitated to answer questions like what have you seen changing in the past five years? This should reveal new agroecological boundaries, helping to reveal the extent to which climate change is re-defining community boundaries and natural features of the community. With the current ubiquitous technology like Google maps, communities should be able to develop systems that can automatically define community natural features and how they are impacting community livelihood boundaries in line with climate conditions that emerge as those changes take place. Such fluid changes have direct impact on food systems and community resilience. Many African communities are realizing the importance of embracing crops that are resistant to shocks like legumes and others. Communities whose commercial mindsets compel them to focus on mono-crops tend to focus on a few commercial crops but expose them to shocks. Emphasis should be on crops that can grow naturally within a community instead of bringing external crops. While local people know what is ideal for their situation, they often lack resources to promote what they believe to be the right thing. For instance, they know that poultry manure, murakwani, indigenous fruits and poultry are the best. However, due to lack of resources, they end up grudgingly accepting programs promoted by NGOs, government and private sector including narrow government extension models which provide partial solutions. Authentic transformation will happen when African governments start appreciating and acknowledging that the colonial systems that they are promoting are destroying local food systems and food sovereignty. Things that have been requested by local communities for in many years like appropriate technology and need for a market have not received meaningful attention. Government should start by becoming a market for indigenous food through national hospitals, training centres, prison services and others large departments that consume a lot of food daily. Ultimately, local food should be an integral component of food as part of building genuine resilience.

Coup Windfall For ED, Chiwenga

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga, or their associates and relatives, allegedly received $3 million from a controversial South African businessman, Zunaid Moti, during the 2017 coup that ousted former President Robert Mugabe.

Moti has extensive business interests in Zimbabwe and was awarded controversial contracts towards the end of Mugabe’s reign. The information was obtained from confidential papers by The Sentry, a US-based investigative and policy organisation. The papers show that Moti moved up to $130 million into the accounts of 28 companies and four individuals in Zimbabwe from 2017, some of which took place during the coup.

The papers also reveal close ties between Moti and Zimbabwe’s highest-ranking politicians and evidence of dubious multimillion-dollar transactions.

ACF, Moti’s company, had formed a joint venture with the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and hired Mnangagwa’s son as a consultant. Moti’s firms allegedly paid $130 million in 595 instalments to a mix of established firms, companies whose records are missing, and politically-linked entities in Zimbabwe. The Sentry reported:

In December 2017 and January 2018, the payments included $1 million to Mnangagwa’s farm and $2 million to a company controlled by Chiwengs’s’ investment manager’ and someone reported to be the retired general’s niece.

In a separate commercial transaction in February 2018, ACF also allegedly paid $100 000 to Justice George Chiweshe, as part of a wider deal to mine chrome in concession areas controlled by a firm he chaired.

The timing of the November 17, 2017, deal raises the question of whether there is a connection to the coup,” The Sentry reported.

Following Zimbabwe African National Union—Patriotic Front (Zanu PF) factional infighting throughout the year, Mnangagwa fled Zimbabwe after being fired as Vice-President by President Robert Mugabe on November 6, 2017.

In November 2017, Constantino Chiwenga, who was the head of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, took control of Harare and persuaded former President Robert Mugabe to step down.

After Mugabe’s resignation, High Court Judge President Chiweshe ruled that the military’s actions were constitutional and annulled the dismissal of Emmerson Mnangagwa, paving the way for him to become president. Mnangagwa later named Chiwenga as his deputy. The military claimed that the coup was to remove criminals surrounding Mugabe, but few were arrested.

Recently, Al Jazeera aired a documentary alleging money laundering and gold smuggling by syndicates linked to Mnangagwa’s family.

Hwende’s Name Missing

The newly installed Alderman for Chiredzi Town Council, Gibson Hwende’s name was missing among other nominated candidates, causing confusion and chaos during the Citizen’s caucus at Dorman hall, Hippo Valley.

Hwende was nominated together with two other candidates, John Manganye (UK) based and Ropafaadzo Makumire, Ward 3 Councillor(Independent)

Hwende is the longest serving member in the opposition party having served two straight terms, while the two who remained contested as Independent candidates during the past elections in 2018.

Manganye rebelled from the Party after losing the primary elections, while Makumire contested without any affiliation to any political party and won the council seat.

Hwende refused to comment over the issue saying he will do so only after exhausting laid down party procedures.

“All what I can say is that I am shocked. I will comment only after he have exhausted all the channels relating to this process”, he said.

His followers however said the process has been flawed, arguing that he should have been notified of the situation before the consensus day.

They also said the panel of the Commissioners was compromised as it was composed of people who had interests in some of the candidates.

The Commissioners were Marko Shoko of Lovemore Madhuku’s National Constitution Assembly (NCA) party, and Josphat Tizirai, the Director of United Chiredzi Residents Association(UCCHRA). who is alleged to be aligned to one of the remaining nominees.

The Resident association and Chiredzi Town Council are known enemies, according to our sources, and hence they expected nothing good for Hwende considering that he is the town chairperson.

“The Commissioners were compromised. How can our Party seek the services of another party to oversee the process”, Mirriam Shava of Hippo Valley said.

Another party member blamed the vetting committee for seeking bribes from the nominees.

“We have evidence of recorded calls from a person among the vetting team who demanded US$5 000 from our candidate. We are going to submit this evidence to the President”, the source said.

On the other hand, intelligent  information gathered from the Party’s security suggests that the Party’s President Nelson Chamisa, harbours little faith and trust among all sitting councillors in Chiredzi and want them to be wiped out for new members.

The source said Chamisa lost trust in the Councillors for failure to clear cut themselves from Douglas Mwonzora. The source further  added that the fact that Mwonzora did not recall them means they were part of his system.

CCC Spokes person Fadzai Mahere dropped her phone when she was contacted for a comment. She also did not respond to questions sent to her.

Amos Chibaya, the party’s organising Champion did not pick his phone and so did the Party’s deputy spokesperson Ostalios Siziba.

“It very unfortunate that when we thought the new system is ushering us to democracy we are going back to the 2018 scenario”, a party member said.

Municipal Employee Kills Wife Over Money, Hangs Self

By A Correspondent- A domestic dispute over money left in his custody while his wife was in prison, saw a 62-year-old Beitbridge municipal employee killing the wife with an axe last week in Dulivhadzimu suburb before driving off and later hanging himself from a tree at Lutumba, some 20km away.

Sources close to the case said Rosemary Dube (36) was a renowned foreign currency dealer and airtime vendor at the Beitbridge border post.

Before being sentenced to a three-month jail term over assault, Dube had left R78 000 and US$972 in the custody of her husband, identified as Muleya.

Upon her release on April 20, Muleya could only account for R6 000, telling her the rest had been stolen.

But Dube became suspicious since Muleya had not reported the theft.

Dube reportedly accused her husband of squandering her money while she was behind bars, resulting in a fight and her death.

The police officer commanding Beitbridge district, Chief Superintendent Tichaona Nyongo said the matter was still under investigation.about:blank

“So far, we have established that the couple were at their Dulivhadzimu home when they went to bed on Tuesday (last week) evening, while their 15-year-old son was sleeping in another room,” he said.

“Indications are that during the night, they had a fight resulting in the accused (Muleya) striking the woman to death with an axe.

“After allegedly committing the offence he fled from the scene in their vehicle. The body of Dube was found by their son in the morning when he went to fetch some items from the bedroom and he then alerted neighbours.”

Chief Supt Nyongo said the woman had been struck on the head and the axe was left next to her body.

He said while the police were attending the scene, they received information that Muleya had taken his own life at Lutumba Village.

“The blood stained axe was found next to Dube’s body whose head had a deep cut on the left temple,” he said.

Investigations by the police, Chief Supt Nyongo said, had revealed that Dube was released from prison on April 20, and upon asking Muleya about her R78 000 and US$972, he only managed to account for R6 000.

“She then threatened to report her husband to the police and gave him a week’s deadline to return the money. A fight later ensued resulting in the death of Dube,” said Chief Supt Nyongo.

“A suicide note indicating that Muleya had killed himself after killing Dube was found on the front seat of his vehicle.”

Chief Supt Nyongo said the two bodies had been taken to Beitbridge District Hospital Mortuary and that a post mortem on Dube’s remains was pending.

Post mortem for Muleya was waived by the local magistrate court.

The incident comes a few weeks after another local authority guard, Phillani Mukothamo, killed and burnt the bodies of his wife and her young sister in Vhembe view suburb following a domestic dispute.

“Agenda must be written by AFRICANS FOR AFRICANS!” demanded Chiwenga. Prelude to bar EU election observers.

By Wilbert Mukori- “We are confronted by wars which are sure to remake the global order as we have known it until now. Africa must jealously guard against her interests and position in the unfolding global drama.

We are no one’s underdog and we should not be drawn into foreign wars as proxies of any power or combatant,” said VP Constantino Chiwenga at the official opening of Connect Africa Symposium.

“Gone are the days when foreign powers come to our meetings and try to override our own agendas. No. The agenda must be written by Africans for Africans. We see repeated attempts of (forcing) Africa into answering to issues that are peripheral to its interests.

“That must end. We also see attempts by bigger powers to fight over our resources which they want to control and to detect partnerships for us. We know our interests. We do not need to be lectured through hypocrisy.”

We know what Zanu PF’s agenda is, it has not change ever since the country gained her independence in 1980 – to establish a de facto one-party dictatorship and retain absolute power at all costs.

President Mnangagwa has mounted a protracted campaign portraying his regime as the victim of the British and her fellow western allies’ white colonial empiricism ambitions. The accusation that the sanctions impose on the country was the root cause of Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown was gaining traction. Many African leaders had called for the lifting of the sanctions against Zimbabwe at UN General Assembly last September. SADC leaders had gone as far declaring 25 October as anti-sanctions day.

In November last year South Africa’s ruling ANC made a party resolution “never to allow regime change in Zimbabwe”. As far as President Cyril Ramaphosa and his party were concerned the any regime change in Zimbabwe was being initiated by the sanctions and nothing else.

The four part Zimbabwe: Gold Mafia documentary on Al Jazeera has reveal how Zimbabwe was losing US$ 1.6 billion or 80% of her US$2 billion gold per year to gold smuggling. This constitutes nearly 6% of the country’s US$28 billion GPD. Corruption is rampant in diamonds, lithium, platinum and in other areas such as procurement of fuel and medicine.

Even the most optimistic guesstimate of the losses brought by sanctions have put the figure at a few million dollars per year nowhere near the US$1.6 billion per year in gold smuggling alone! Mnangagwa knows the Al Jazeera documentary has just shot down his sanctions balloon.

President Cyril Ramaphosa may still try to endorse rigged 2023 elections and grant Zanu PF legitimacy, as before, but even he knows he will be helping to prop up a corrupt, tyrannical and vote rigging regime. No one will buy the sanctions hen’s teeth excuse.

What is more, the people of South Africa will be forced to sit up and take note: if ANC is condoning vote rigging in Zimbabwe, what is there to stop the party rigging SA elections?

President Mnangagwa is concerned about rigging the 2023 elections but being denied political legitimacy because the process is judged to be flawed and illegal. He is so concerned about that, he is seriously considering denying the EU, Commonwealth, Americans and all certain to condemn the flawed process, election observer status.

All this anti-foreign powers interfering in Africa’s affair, we are  “no one’s underdog” rhetoric, etc. is preemptive strike to justify the decision to deny the western nation election observer status and reports condemn the election as a farce.

Anyone who has been paying attentions to Zimbabwe these last 43 years will tell you they saw this coming! Zanu PF is a party of ruthless thugs who would rather burn down the house than give up power particularly now they are addicted to absolute power and all the influence and wealth it has brought.

During India’s struggle for home rule, Mahatma Gandhi and his fellow Indian nationalist leaders resisted the temptation to wage an armed struggle. “What kind of leaders will an armed struggle throw up?” they asked. “Will those be men and women we would want to rule India?”

In Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies Zimbabwe’s armed struggle has provided the world with the answers to worse case scenario of what Gandhi and company feared! It is fair to say Zimbabwe end white colonial rule in 1980 only to replace the white oppressor with the black ones.

Blacks did not have a meaningful vote before independence, now they are frogmarched to vote. Any whites who point out the meaningless change are dismissed as hypocrites.  And any blacks who demand free and fair elections are ruthless silenced under the pretext they are puppets promoting their white masters’ regime change agenda.

Zanu PF turned the guns used to defeat the white colonial government on the people they were supposed to liberate to impose themselves as the new rulers. They had the means, the guns, to make the country ungovernable if they did not get what they wanted and they have held the nation to ransom ever since. Of course, we are tuck!

“Zim Regressing Back To Gukurahundi Era”: Prof Moyo

By A Correspondent- Jonathan Moyo, a former Information Minister now in exile, claimed that the conviction and imprisonment of opposition leader Jacob Ngarivhume signifies a regression of Zimbabwe’s judiciary system back to the Gukurahundi era.

The Gukurahundi era was a period of political violence from 1983 to 1987. The Zimbabwean military killed an estimated 10 000 to 20 000 people, mostly ethnic Ndebele, under the pretext of suppressing a rebellion by armed dissidents and due to political tensions between ZANU-PF and PF-ZAPU parties.

Jonathan Moyo’s comments came after Jacob Ngarivhume was convicted of incitement to public violence and sentenced to four years in jail for a tweet he posted in July 2020. In the tweet, Ngarivhume called for a national shutdown to protest against poor leadership by the ZANU PF-led government.

In a Twitter post seen by Pindula News, Moyo said it is disheartening that Jacob Ngarivhume was convicted and sentenced to effectively serve three years in jail for tweets he posted in July 2020, which called for constitutionally protected peaceful protests.

Moyo said the sentence was given by a Harare Magistrate who is obligated to uphold and protect the constitution, and Ngarivhume’s tweet and video posted on July 8, 2020, are still available on Twitter and require no interpretation.

Moyo added that considering sections 56, 58, 59, 60, and 61 of the 2013 Constitution, it is surprising that a magistrate would be deceived by political prosecutors into making a political decision to convict and give a harsh sentence to an electoral opponent of the sitting president, just three months before a general election. This decision undermines the judiciary and damages its reputation. He added:

Truth be told, the judiciary’s shocking mishandling of Bill of Rights cases these days is eerily reminiscent of the gukurahundi years, when the Rhodesian State of Emergency retained between 1980 and 1990 was ruthlessly enforced.

But there was an important difference then, now lost to the judiciary.

While government used a decade of the retention of the Rhodesian State of Emergency for political purposes against targeted political enemies – especially Zapu and the population in Matabeleland and parts of the Midlands – the judiciary then stood firm as the protector of the Bill of Rights and defender of human rights and freedoms.

Ironically, this was under a Lancaster Constitution whose Bill of Rights was in fact meant for the white minority and was entrenched only for 10 years precisely to give the white minority time to either take the gap to apartheid South Africa or the white Commonwealth countries, if not back to Britain itself.

The point here is that during the gukurahundi years – in which the order of the day was the Rhodesian State of Emergency whose effect was the obliteration of the Lancaster Bill of Rights – draconian convictions and sentences like the one imposed on Ngarivhume by Magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka were unheard of.

Moyo said it is a fact that individuals sacrifice their freedom when they join a group, as they must give up some rights for the common good. This means that threats to human rights usually come from the groups individuals belong to, and the worst threats come from the State and its government, as they hold a monopoly on violence.

Ge added that it follows, therefore, that all governments are a threat to human rights, but in constitutional democracies with a justiciable Bill of Rights, the judiciary, not the government, is responsible for protecting human rights. If the judiciary fails to do so, it is up to the people themselves to take action. Moyo concluded:

In Zimbabwe today the judiciary has tragically abdicated its constitutional responsibility and duty to guarantee and protect human rights and freedoms; hence the tragedy now happening to the Jobs (Job Sikhala) and Jacobs in the nation’s midst, which tragedy has exposed everyone’s constitutional rights and freedoms to jeopardy!

Zimbabwe is scheduled to hold harmonised elections sometime between July 26 and August 26 this year.

Harare Woman In Soup Over Son’s Paternity

By A Correspondent- A Harare woman is in the eye of a storm after she lured an unsuspecting man to look after a child who was not his for FOUR years.

Annah Munzeiwa was exposed by her partner, only identified as Dakarai, after he decided to go for DNA tests after having taken care of the child for four years.

It was discovered that the child was not his.

Annah is now accusing Dakarai of domestic violence.

H-Metro is possession of the DNA results which confirm that the child is not Dakarai’s kid.

Efforts to get a comment from Annah were fruitless as her mobile number was not reachable.

Dakarai spoke to H-Metro.

She has been holding my family hostage claiming that I was the father of her child for the last four years.

“She made me take care of this kid and she even tried to kill the kid last year at our house claiming that the family dogs had bitten him.

“The cuts were not consistent with dog bites.

“So, we were back home for a memorial service and managed to do the DNA tests and it came out I am not the father.”

According to Dakarai, he was then accused by Annah of setting the dogs on the child.

She tried to blame it on my dogs after she had tried to get me arrested twice on false accusations.

“The child was injured and the blame was put on me.”

Dakarai said they met in 2018.

“We met back in 2018 when I used to come on holidays from the UK because I grew up and did my Form 1, University and work there but, because I inherited about four properties, I don’t see myself staying in the UK.

“At one point she left me, the baby for six or seven months.

“The second time she came to leave the baby through her mainini.

“All along I was thinking he was mine until the DNA results. I am the one who took her to the hospital to give birth and moved in together.

“I was always giving her US$150 every month for the boy.”

Dakarai’s sister said:

She was trying to put our estate in the kids’ name the whole of last year and men need to be warned about her in Harare.

“She got the results and now she is claiming that, maybe, the baby was swapped at birth and this happened after my brother started dat!ng another girl.”

Cornered Anjin Embarks On Environmental Rehabilitation Of Slime Dams, Pits

By A Correspondent- The Environmental Management Agency (Ema) has confirmed that Chinese diamond-mining company Anjin has begun the rehabilitation of deep gullies and slime dams in Chiadzwa which had sparked a malaria crisis in the area.

An investigation by The NewsHawks and Information for Development Trust, under a project meant to support investigative reporting focusing on the accountability and governance of foreign interests and investments in Zimbabwe and Southern Africa, last month revealed that a serious malaria crisis had hit Chiadzwa after Anjin left unrehabilitated pits in the area it is mining.

The pits, which have collected water, are breeding grounds for mosquitos, resulting in a spike in malaria cases among local villagers.

Some of the pits have also become death traps for humans, as people have slipped and died while fishing, while some villagers have committed suicide by drowning themselves in the deep pits.

During the investigation, Ema said it would ensure Anjin rehabilitates the pits to end the crisis.

Ema national spokesperson Amkela Sidange told The NewsHawks this week that Anjin had rehabilitated two hectares of land. The company has secured material to encircle the pits and produced an action plan for the rehabilitation of slime dams.

Sidange said Anjin has also submitted a comprehensive rehabilitation plan for other areas that were affected by degradation because of its mining operations.

“They have secured a fence to put on some pits. Work on rehabilitation of the slimes area is ongoing. So far two hectares have been done. Re-vegetation of the areas to start in June. They have produced an action plan to that effect which the Agency is monitoring,” she said.

Sidange explained that the rehabilitation plan specified how the company intends to rehabilitate damaged areas and the timelines for accomplishing the task.

The rehabilitation includes filling gullies with soil and draining stagnant water.

Shylet Mapindu of Tonhorai Village located in ward 29 of Chiadzwa who contracted malaria two times last year together with her three-year-old son Prosper Mapindu, said she had witnessed the rehabilitation of the slime dams which had enhanced the breeding of mosquitos in the area.

She was one of the villagers quoted by The NewsHawks during the investigation.

“We urge the Chinese company to speed up the process so that all the gullies that are breeding mosquitos can be filled with soil to save us from the mosquito bites,” she said.
Anjin spokesperson Special Matarirano said the company in its rehabilitation plan intends to cover a total of seven hectares. The area is also going to be populated with different fruit trees. Slime dams are continually being fenced. We are aware of the duty to preserve ecosytems and humans,” he said.

“The rehabilitation action plan will cover the hectarage we believe require immediate action on the gullies and it is seven hectares.”

James Mupfumi, the Centre for Research and Development (CRD) director, told The NewsHawks that the rehabilitation exercise by Anjin was commendable although short-term methods that directly help in reducing malaria cases are needed.

“The rehabilitation exercise by Anjin in Chiadzwa is commendable, but it will take a long time and so there is need for short-term action to reduce the prevalence of malaria. These may include the company funding health programmes of government in Chiadzwa where malaria cases are still rife. There is also need for the company to fund clinics in the area so that they are able to effectively fight malaria cases there.

“The company could also consider distributing mosquito nets to the local community. These interventions will have short-term impact on the health crisis of malaria,” he said.
Anjin Diamond Company is a joint venture between China’s Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Company (AFECC) and Matt Bronze, an investment vehicle controlled by Zimbabwe’s military.

The firm began operating in Chiadzwa in 2010, but was ordered to shut down in 2016 when the government ceased the operations of all diamond companies in the area after the then president Robert Mugabe claimed there were serious leakages of the gems amounting to US$15 billion.

The ban led to the establishment of the state-owned Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC), which then took over operations.

When President Emmerson Mnangagwa took over leadership of the country following a military coup in November 2017, he lifted the ban on Anjin’s operations, resulting in the company resuming full-scale diamond mining in Marange with an initial investment of US$38 million in 2019.

Double Accident: 5 Killed

Two accidents in Mashonaland West that resulted in the deaths of five people at the weekend. On Sunday, a bus and a haulage truck collided on the Harare-Chirundu highway, killing one person and injuring four others in the process.
Both collisions are thought to have been preventable, but driver error still claims lives.

After visiting the victims and grieving families of the Banket accident, which claimed the lives of four people—three immediately on the scene on Sunday afternoon, and one injured person later—Deputy Minister Marrian Chombo of Local Government and Public Works, whose ministry houses the Department of Civil Protection, said it was alarming that the country was losing valuable lives in preventable traffic accidents.

“As Government we are concerned with the number of accidents that continue to occur on our roads. We have lost seven lives in two separate accidents in the province. I want to urge motorists to be very careful on the road and adhere to road regulations,” said Deputy Minister Chombo

One of the survivors admitted at Banket Hospital, Mr Raphel Muzondo, who had travelled from Harare to mourn his friend’s mother, said the accident occurred as a result of poor judgment.

“The driver of the bus failed to negotiate the curve which resulted in the head-on collision,” he said.

Another survivor and a relative of the old lady whose coffin was being transported to the nearby farm, Ms Sheila Chisango, said the driver of their vehicle tried to avoid the bus by swerving to the extreme left.

She is among 13 relatives and friends who were seriously injured and are currently admitted at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital.

Ms Spiwe Patino who was in the other escorting vehicle, said two of those killed were in the trailer, – state media

Restore Workers’ Dignity

By Stephen Sarkozy Chuma

As CCC youths we join progressive fellow citizens in commemorating the International Workers Day.

The day is celebrated to raise awareness of the rights of working people and to protect them from exploitation. It also serves as a reminder of the important role played by the working class in our society.

Sadly here in Zimbabwe, workers have been emasculated by successive ZANU PF governments. Civil servants are earning peanuts and this is in contrast to the ever rising prices of basic commodities.

The workers are literally and metaphorically naked in every sense. We have seen images of teachers with tattered clothes in classrooms. We have heard reports of teachers being dragged to courts for failing to pay school fees of their own children.

Under Emmerson Mnangagwa’s so called new dispensation, workers’ dignity has been eroded. We have seen trade unionists being dragged to courts for demanding a living wage.

The criminalisation of industrial action of nurses and doctors is akin to modern day slavery.

Mnangagwa has destroyed the working place!

The closure of industries and companies like ZISCO Steel which used to employ thousands has effectively decimated the working class.

Workers of the world unite!

The above more than a century old phrase by Karl Marx is an open advise to workers in Zimbabwe on what needs to be done.

Unite! Vote for change. Restore your dignity.

Bishop Magaya Speaks On Ngarivhume Imprisonment

The sentencing of Jacob Ngarivhume: a mockery on the justice system.

It is with a very heavy and saddened heart that l learn of the sentencing of an opposition leader, and a son of the church, a very dear brother in the Lord: Jacob Ngarivhume. Our prayers are with Nyasha his wife and the children together with those that look up to him for leadership. It is very ironic that this has happened at a time when we have just had shocking revelations of the rot within the corridors of power, manifesting through gold laundering. The sentencing has happened at a time when some of the CCC 2023 candidates are being arrested. The sentencing of Ngarivhume has also happened at a time that the likes of Wadyajena, Mupfumira, Obadiah Moyo among many are roaming the streets yet the venal of corruption is on them. Sikala is wallowing in prison, being denied bail yet well known Zanupf people who have issued wildest of utterances are also roaming freely. It is not inconceivable that the sentencing of Ngarivhume is meant to give strong warning to any possible mass action against corruption that the Aljezera documentary has revealed. We are likely to have more arrests as we go towards elections.
Here is the word of the Lord “so justice is driven back and righteousness stands at a distance. Truth has tumbled in the streets, honesty can not enter. Truth is nowhere to be found, and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey. The Lord looked and was displeased that there was no justice. He saw that there was no one to intervene, so His arm achieved salvation for him and His (God’s) own righteousness (justice) sustained him” (Isaiah 59: 14-16). I wish to state here that though Zimbabwe’s justice system has failed the people, the Lord’s arm will soon be revealed to break the spine of wickedness and give salvation to His people. However, the Lord is very displeased that some, within the church are strengthening the hands of the evil doers by reason of their silence in the face of oppression and instead, partaking of the table of wickedness (Jer 23: 14).
I insist on the basis of the authority of His word, that evil will not flourish for ever. The rot in the roots of the massive tree has spread like cancer and great will be it’s falling. God can not and will not be mocked. God save Zimbabwe.

Citizens Condemn MDC Violence

Transform Zimbabwe Statement On Ngarivhume Conviction, Sentencing

PRESS STATEMENT

It is with a heavy heart that we have to address the nation of Zimbabwe in view of the conviction and sentencing of Transform Zimbabwe President Jacob Ngarivhume.

As a political party, we strongly feel that this was great injustice and weaponization of the courts to serve the ruling party. Following the long and arduous legal battle, it is clear that the state failed to prove a case against President J Ngarivhume but went ahead to convict him. It has taken the state three years to convict President Jacob Ngarivhume on these frivolous charges. It becomes clear that he has no case to answer but the state has this as an opportunity to instil fear and to intimidate anyone who harbours an agenda to fight against corruption in the country.

PresidentJ Ngarivhume has been convicted of charges emanating from a July 2020 twitter message

We, as a society, have witnessed far too much injustice in recent times from the ruling regime. There have been countless instances where people have been arrested and jailed without bail. Such actions are unacceptable and must be condemned with the strongest words possible.

We believe that every individual has the right to be protected by the constitution from indiscriminate arrest and conviction, and that injustice of any kind should be dealt with swiftly and decisively. We stand in solidarity with those who have been mistreated, marginalized, and oppressed, and pledge to do everything in our power to help them in their struggle for justice.

We urge all governments and institutions to take proactive measures to create a more equitable and just society, where every individual is valued and respected no matter who they are or where they come from. We call upon all individuals to actively resist any form of oppression, and to stand up for the rights of those who have been denied them.

We will not rest until justice is served for all, and work together to fight against injustice in all its forms. Removing President J Ngarivhume from us does not mean the fight against corruption has stopped.

The nation has for long stood by while the ruling regime jails those who stand up against corruption. Billions have been syphoned out of the economy by the rich elite while the nation wallows in poverty and those who dare mention this are jailed.

Perhaps this is the right time for us as Zimbabweans to reflect on how much longer we will allow this to continue. We have a watershed election ahead of us and this should be a golden opportunity to vote these people out and bring justice to all,

Going forward, we will be appealing this travesty of justice at superior courts, consult with our membership on appropriate response to this and we will be advising the nation in coming days. The party’s national executive committee (NEC) will meet and give direction.

Thank you.

President Mnangagwa Says Sanctions Are Good

Sanctions are very good, said President Emmerson Mnangagwa, just as the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Zimbabwe Jobst von Kirchmann heaped praises on him saying the bloc is optimistic that Zimbabwe has the capability to become the regional economic powerhouse.

VIDEO LOADING BELOW…

Last year in November, Ambassador Kirchmann commended Zimbabwe for its commitment to fulfilling engagement and re-engagement in an open and transparent manner.

For the first time, the EU delegation exhibited at the just-ended Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo, the country’s biggest annual trade expo as a bloc which amplifies the Second Republic’s re-engagement and engagement drive.

Unlike in the past when individual countries from the EU such as France, Germany and Italy, participated at the ZITF, this year it was the the EU as a bloc that participated, a confirmation that the country’s engagement and re-engagement drive is bearing fruit.

Speaking at the EU stand Ambassador Kirchmann said efforts would be made to ensure Zimbabwe benefits from increased trade and investment by the 27-member bloc.

He said their presence at the country’s prime trade expo showed that trade between Zimbabwe and the EU is vital.

“This is an important event because I believe this is shared by the Zimbabwean Government that we could do more than what we are doing. We are one of Zimbabwe’s main trading partners and at the moment we have an annual trade volume of over US$700 million,” said Ambassador Kirchmann.

“We are the number one export destination for Zimbabwe’s horticulture produce as 42 percent of the country’s produce is exported to the European market.”

Ambassador Kirchmann said EU had for the first time exhibited as a bloc. He said the EU appreciated initiatives that had been implemented by the Government.

“We hope that with all the initiatives being undertaken by the NDS1 gradually, we will see a more prosperous business climate that attracts businesses. I am very proud that I personally came to inaugurate this stand and be here for this big stand,” he said.

Ambassador Kirchmann said there is room to increase trade between Zimbabwe and Belgium in response to the Second Republic’s “Zimbabwe is open for business” mantra.

“There is room for much more investments and I think that is also what Zimbabwe wants because I hear you are open for business, you want to build an export-led economy and I have read the NDS1 and there is a lot in it,” he said.

“As the European Union, we would like Zimbabwe to succeed and we would like to work together.”

Ambassador Kirchmann commended President Mnangagwa for adopting and implementing gender-based initiatives saying gender-based related issues are key in terms of promoting economic growth.

“We have a programme called the ‘spotlight initiative’ and President Mnangagwa committed himself and endorsed it. We have said that is a priority for us and a priority for Zimbabwe which is in line with our own values. Gender is a key issue and we share the same values and interests,” Ambassador Kirchmann.

He said women play a critical role economically, socially and politically and commended the Second Republic for implementing various programmes aimed at empowering women through agricultural projects in line with Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1).

“Our programmes only target and promote the Zimbabwean strategy and what we do is to look and promote the strategies that are available in the country.

“For instance, we have seen in cases like those concerning gender that there is a lot of commitment. For us, this has a double meaning. It’s for gender equality and the improvement of women’s lives, said Ambassdor Kirchmann.

He said Zimbabwe had the capability to become Southern Africa’s biggest economy through adhering and committing to the country’s strategies.- state media

Robbers Break Into Kadoma Store

Last Wednesday, unidentified burglars broke into a wholesale in Kadoma and stole more than $10,700 and $21,000.

Police have been searching for the culprits since the incident happened at night.

Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, a spokesperson for the national police, verified the incident.

“Police in Kadoma are appealing for information which may assist in the investigation of a case of unlawful entry into premises and theft which occurred at a wholesaler in Kadoma during the night on April 26, 2023,” he said.

“An unknown suspect gained entry into the shop and stole US$10 702 and $21 000 cash after blasting the safe. Anyone with information to report at any nearest police station.”

Recently, Mukuru money transfer agent lost over US$27 000 and R66 300 to three thieves who broke into one of its booths in Lower Gweru.

The unknown thieves went to Maboleni Business Centre and used unidentified weapons to blast the booth which was located in a hardware shop before stealing the money.

Asst Comm Nyathi said, “Police in Gweru are investigating circumstances surrounding a case of unlawful entry into premises and theft which occurred on April 22, 2023 at Maboleni Business Centre, Lower Gweru. “Police recovered one unused Megamite EMEX 70 at the scene. Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station.”

This was not the first time that a money transfer agent has either been robbed or lost cash to thieves.

Last month, an employee of Mukuru money transfer agent was kidnapped by five robbers at his Masvingo house at around 6pm then taken to his booth in a supermarket at Balmain Business Centre where the gang stole US$20 472 and R32 800 cash.

The gang using an unregistered grey Toyota vehicle as a get-away car, attacked the employee at his house.

The five unknown suspects, who were armed with an unidentified firearm, while using an unregistered grey Toyota vehicle as get-away car, attacked a Mukuru money transfer employee at his residence before kidnapping him to his workplace at Mukuru booth located in a supermarket at Balmain Business Centre.

No Violence At CCC Caucus Meeting

By A Correspondent

Citizens Coalition for Change aspiring MP for Mbizo Constituency, Corban Madzivanyika, was endorsed during the party’s caucus on candidate selection.

CCC held caucus meetings on candidate selection across the country on Saturday.

Madzivanyika was endorsed by citizens ahead of fellow aspiring MPs.

Speaking to ZimEye.com on Sunday, CCC supporters in Kwekwe dismissed talk of violence.

“As you can see the video clips show that the process went well, without violence.

Those who say violence erupted during the caucus on candidate selection in Mbizo are simply trying to discredit the process,” said a CCC official.

Chiragwi Bags Maximum Points

Ngezi Platinum Stars coach Takesure Chiragwi has remained grounded after his side thrashed ZPC Kariba 5-1 in the Castle Lager Premiership matchday 7 encounter on Saturday.

Madamburo got on thirteen points and moved to the top of the table following the win.

However, CAPS United and Highlanders, who occupy second and third position respectively, can leapfrog Ngezi if they win on Sunday.

“We are just on top,” said Chiragwi told reporters after the game.

“There is nothing much to talk about for now as some clubs (CAPS United and Highlanders) will play tomorrow (today).

“Being on top, for now, does not mean that we have won the league.

“We need to work hard to maintain the position.”

On his team’s performance, Chiragwi was convinced with the result, saying: “I think we had a good day in the office. It’s good playing at home and this is our first win here.

“I think it’s a massive win for us. I am happy with the boys and the way we played. We really wanted to win, our gameplan was to win the game in the first 15 minutes.”- Soccer24 News

Mapeza Explodes

FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza has condemned time wasting antics employed by some teams in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, saying they are not good for the local game.

The local top-flight has been marred by glaring time wasting antics which have resulted in some coaches being cautioned by match officials, as goalkeepers are being accused of going down faking injuries, while ball boys tend to disappear or hide match balls when the home team is leading.

Herentals College coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva was shown a yellow card in the Students’ 2-1 victory over ZPC Kariba, as was Simba Bhora’s Tonderai Ndiraya in the Premiership newboys’ win over Yadah.

Dynamos coach Herbert Maruwa complained about Cranborne Bullets’ time wasting antics in his side goalless draw with Cranborne Bullets and even confronted the army side’s coach Nesbert Saruchera after the final whistle.

While Mapeza argues time wasting tactics are not coaches’ instruction, he insists they do not paint a good picture of the local Premiership.

“This is an issue we have been talking about with the players and I also had a chance to talk about this issue with my fellow coaches. I don’t think it’s good for our football,” Mapeza said when asked about time wasting antics ahead of his side’s clash with Herentals at the National Sports Stadium on Monday.

“I don’t think it’s good for our football for players, for example when the team is leading, you find out that the goalkeepers will be going down without any injuries. Defenders are going down, strikers are going down without any injuries.

“People come to the stadium to enjoy football, let the game of football flow without any disturbances or anything which will annoy the other part.

“But if you going to face those signs, maybe the best way for you would be to get those early goals then maybe the game can keep on flowing. But if they get an opportunity to take the lead, then you know you are in trouble.

“But I don’t believe some of the coaches assign those ball boys to disappear or maybe to hide the balls. There is someone who is responsible for those ball boys, that person is the one who would have arranged everything,” argued Mapeza.

Mapeza urged fellow coaches in the Premiership to get to the bottom of the time wasting issue.

“As for us coaches, it will be very important to know where we are as clubs and who is responsible for those ball boys, let’s try to bring professionalism into our football,” he said.

“Let’s have ball boys who can be identified by everyone, then we will see from there,” added the former Warriors captain.- Soccer24 News

Government To Punish Rogue Drivers

COMMUTERS have welcomed the government’s tough stance against errant drivers with the new law compelling rogue drivers to appear before courts with a possibility of a long sentence.

Errant drivers have been put on short notice as the government has toughened its position on road regulation violators who have contributed to some of the major fatalities that have occurred in the country.

Culprits will now answer their charges before the courts, a development that has been welcomed by many as a vital tool to combat road carnage.

Within the last months, the country recorded a spike in accidents involving public transport vehicles, prompting players to seek government intervention.

The government through the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage is currently working on a traffic monitoring model to man major roads in the capital city, proposing to cancel driving licences for those who adopt a culture of repeating violations.- ZBC News

Ramaphosa Under US Fire for Coca-Cola Theft and Bribery of Sanctioned Zimbabweans

30 April 2023

The Honorable Antony Blinken U.S. Department of State 2201 C Street NW Washington DC
20520
Dear Honorable Antony Blinken,
1. I am a member of the Banking on Africa’s Future (BOAF) – Justice Under Rule of Law (JUROL), an initiative that aims to promote, protect and uphold the rule of law in Africa as a sine qua non for shaping and defining the AFRICA I WANT.
2. It is regrettable that the sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe in 2001 not only been ignored by the people that need to benefit from the law and its protection but the people who use public power with impunity to undermine the rule of law.
3. You will appreciate that even a key strategic interlocutor like President Ramaphosa’s position on the ZIDERA Act as a disincentive for conduct that is inconsistent with s2(1) of the Zimbabwe Constitution as read with s2 the Constitution of South Africa is that sanctions must be removed without putting any countervailing measures to give life to the protection and accountability measures that are entrenched and enshrined in the constitution of Zimbabwe.
4. It is trite that s(2)(1) of the constitution of Zimbabwe reads as follows:
“This Constitution is the supreme law of Zimbabwe and any law, practice, custom or conduct inconsistent with it is invalid to the extent of the inconsistency.”
5. It is instructive that although the constitution of Zimbabwe provides that the supreme
law of Zimbabwe is the law of the land, in truth and fact, President Mnangagwa’s conduct is inconsistent with the constitution including the appointment of persons like Ambassador Uerbert Angels and many other in relation to public policy matters.
6. As an American citizen of Zimbabwean heritage, it is chilling that since 2001, the laws, practices, customs and conduct of not just the President but other public office bearers have been overtly offensive and repugnant to the rule of law with impunity.
TOWARDS PROVOKING, INSPIRING AND IGNITING MEDIA EXCELLENCE.

1240 Central Avenue | Memphis | TN 381104-4707 | Email: [email protected]
7. You will be pleased to take notice that sanctions have been reduced to a laughing stock by the generality of the Zimbabwean public but have also been weaponized to deny and limit the democratic space.
8. As a member of JUROL, I am alive to the tricky pathway to remove the climate of fear underpinned by ignorance on what the purpose and cause of the US imposing sanctions on a country that urgently needs help yet no external help will materially alter
the trajectory of decay when public power is the preferred weapon to undermine the constitution and the rule of law.
9. I am writing this letter having been authorized by my organization to do so in terms of s2(2) of the Constitution that reads as follows:
“The obligations imposed by this Constitution are binding on every person, natural or juristic, including the State and all executive, legislative and judicial institutions and agencies of government at every level, and must be fulfilled by them.”
10. It is not in dispute that I like many Zimbabweans who have now naturalized as citizens of the USA and are contributors to the fiscus like many other Americans, owe a duty to the constitution of Zimbabwe to ensure that the duty to obey, respect, uphold and defend the constitution as the supreme law of Zimbabwe is binding upon all of us.
11. To the extent that the sanctions were imposed to compel all people of Zimbabwe to fulfill the obligations imposed by Zimbabwe’s own constitution, we feel that it is about time that we step forward to register our position on the validity, morality and legality of the targeted sanctions.
12. We hold the view that the constitution’s prescription is direct to the person and sanctions that speak to the foundational values of the constitution cannot succeed without the buy in of the people most affected by tyranny, corruption and ill-governance.
13. You will be aware that Zimbabwe caused the SADC Tribunal to be disbanded and more importantly, absent this institution, none of the SADC member states including the AU members have failed, refused and neglected to nudge Zimbabwean public office bearers to be accountable to the constitution in shaping and defining the personality and character of Zimbabwe.
14. Against this backdrop, I am pleased to share on behalf of JUROL, a landmark application launched in the High Court of South Africa under Case Number 2023/ 031777, that a subsidiary of The Coca Cola Company (TCCC), Coca Cola Africa Pty

Limited (CCA), a company incorporated in the Republic of South Africa as a private company that is wholly owned by TCCC.
15. At issue in this matter, is the constitutional question of whether President Ramaphosa has in terms of s83(b) of the Constitution of South Africa a duty to uphold, defend, respect and obey the Constitution by appointing a Commission of Inquiry in terms of s84(2)(f) of the Constitution to investigate the allegations that TCCC paid a
bribe of US$2.7 million to Chinamasa, Mnangagwa’s ally in relation to not only the coup but in relation to the divestment and deprivation of property and human rights.
16. I was shocked that TCCC openly admitted being party to criminal and fraudulent scheme that resulted in the payment of US$2.7 million as part of an orchestrated scheme to pay for a government gazette that was issued by Chinamasa to cancel a non-existent reconstruction order purportedly issued in relation to Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited (SZL) and Fidelity Life Assets Management Private Limited (FLAM), another Zimbabwean company in which TCCC had no legal nexus with except that this company was used to warehouse shares for indigenous Zimbabweans to participate in on listing.
17. I was also shocked that CCA stole the equipment that was purchased by Africa Resources Limited (ARL) from South African vendors by purporting to make a double payment for the equipment and the specific crimes relevant in this aspect of the scheme include the following:
The crimes that may be relevant or competent in this case include:
Fraud
Theft
Larceny
False pretenses Receiving stolen property
Conspiracy.
18. Notwithstanding the above serious crimes, CCA, an American company has chosen to take sides with President Ramaphosa, a staunch supporter of the Mnangagwa regime to oppose the relief sought for an independent and impartial investigation to be conducted in the interests of justice that will expose the corruption that Mnangagwa has already admitted under Case Number CCZ34/21 that was the driving force behind it.
19. He has asserted boldly under oath in the above matter that he is fixed with the knowledge of this matter including the facts and circumstances surrounding the

extortion of equipment of ARL and its associates whose relationship with the equipment was divested and deprived with his constructive involvement.
20. I am informed that President Ramaphosa has chosen to protect President Mnangagwa by refusing, failing and neglecting to appoint the Commission of Inquiry as he compelled to do.
CONCLUSION
21. I am confident that you are aware that cause supporting the US sanctions has been misconstrued to mean that the sanctions were solely imposed to protect white Zimbabwean settlers and as such rule of law concerns were imported into the cause solely to reverse the gains of the liberation war.
22. In the circumstances, we have been attacked as apologists for imperialisms and neocolonialism when we assert that sanctions serve a legitimate purpose especially with the victim of the regime have no other remedies available to hold recalcitrant public office bearers to account for the use of public power in undermining the rule of law.
23. In this instant matter, you will note that shocking facts are contained in the court depositions before the High Court of South Africa in which President Ramaphosa is the First Respondent.
24. The facts therein expose the complicity of not only President Ramaphosa but the entire SA justice system in so far as the bold assertion of rights acquired by force of a law that is inconsistent with both the Constitution of SA and Zimbabwe plus international law.
25. It is trite that any law that offends public policy is no law at all.
26. To the extent that TCCC acquiesced to a law that is barbaric and satanic including
being against the spirit and letter of ZIDERA, I have taken the liberty to copy this letter to Chairman & President of TCCC as well as President Ramaphosa.
27. I am available to furnish more details should this be necessary especially given that so far the targeted persons have exclusively been black Zimbabweans.
28. I trust that you will find this in order.

Chiragwi Buries ZPC Kariba

Why Is PPE Important For Miners?

By Dr Ellane Simon

PPE in mining
Worn to minimize exposure to various hazards.

Examples of PPE include gloves, steel-toed footwear, eye protection, protective hearing devices (earplugs, muffs), hard hats, respirators and reflective clothing.
Gloves – prevent scrapes and abrasions.

Footwear- should be water proof and a puncture proof sole.

Eye protection- prevent dirt and dust floating around the mine from going into the eyes. Also keep chemicals from splashing into the eyes.
Protective hearing devices- to prevent irreversible hearing loss from loud machines, tools and vehicles miners use
Hard hats- protect the miner from water and falling objects
Respirators- prevent from dust exposure which may cause chronic lung disease in the long run.
Reflective clothing- for workers to be recognized easily.

Simple, Basic Mining Guidelines

X factors of mining “

practical lessons to mining

Like every business mining has its key factors that can make it do extremely well or fail .

Most miners think a good sample will make them succeed unfortunately a good sample is not sustainable unless you know the importance of the following factors in the mining sector. If you master them day by day you will blossom even in dark days and enjoy glory days to the fullest.

Enjoy the ride .
Three pillars of wholesome mining in order
1 strategic management
2 Debt
3 the boss ” gold panner ” tsheketsha korokoza

1 strategic management
The mine manager is key to function his impact is so crucial such his complete absence can be measured by a lot of red flags like low output ; loss of equipment; no records ; lack of proper compliance and production that cannot be measured let alone be sustainable. Before you appoint a manager know your weakness and hire someone who will compliment your weakness. Secondly create a management team that involves you and him stop cellphone management of any kind . Cellphones are good for reports and analysis only . To your team third person in form of someone who compliments his weak ; it can be a blaster or cyanide plant manager depending on which area your manager is good at .

First attribute of your manager should be administration before anything then followed by one of the two pillars of mining leaching and mining. The security guard is not part of management must not be at whatever costs .

Your relatives ( including your wife and kids ) should get a job somewhere else or be prepared to take instructions from a management team never to directly report to you no matter what. Don’t discuss mining issues with them listen to their opinions silently unless if they qualify then appoint them . Paid management team and all your employees well and fire them for underperformance never rehire someone fired by management team .
Debt .

Debt is a cancer affecting the whole world unfortunately in artisanal mining Debt is what Cellphone lines are to econet , Lithium is to Tesla car , imagine if econet will stop selling lines without coming up with an alternative. Most of mining services are paying after work completion which is root causes of all Debts you hear about in mining stories. First artisanal miners use cheapest means to reap gold Most cases they don’t have transport and milling means this leads to smart loans by service providers then all problems begin here .

On top of that all services are available on short term based loan usually supported by black market indirectly which explains why black market cannot disappear overnight.

Since gold is not guaranteed failure to pay these loans forces credit to accumulate to so high levels such that its not surprising to find a mine owner or even worker owing 20 000usd or more ranging from diesel credit, stampmill credit, explosives credit ; rental and electricity credit for domestic purposes or many more .

Inorder to survive you have to acquire debt management skills that are not only superb but partnered with discipline. When you decide to invest in a mine a guy with more debt is the perfect partner depending on your analysis because of few factors. If he/she has more it means his mine has a huge potential just mismanagement who can borrow someone with no means to pay .

Number two you use his/ her debt as insurance through what l call debt purchase ” . This desires caution carefully study and implementation.

You take his debt but still keep it in his name negotiate for payment plan where possible complete erasing of some of them ( that’s possible ) then use his debt to double you investment on him takes years repairing his debt yet already making profits on it . Let’s miner F owes EMA 3000usd for bills and tickets ; 1500usd ministry of mines tickets; 2000usd stamp mill and 4500usd for car loan and family expenses to make 11 000usd yet you want to invest 25 000usd in his mine you just raise 14 000usd buy his 11 000usd debt ask for payment from ministry of mines and EMA then ask to pay half for stampmill debt or complete erasure then negotiate for transfer of registration first things first then you are in the game .Debt purchase is easier route into a full operational mine . Sometimes you buy personal debt only but be cautious. Will cover debt in a separate post .
3 The boss “tsheketsha; korokoza “
We have a saying ” impara ngelikatsheketsha ” . This means every goldminer has a dry spell or good spell . This means no matter how cautious you are the dry spell will hit you very hard . When supporting this guys financial remember this all the time support them based on performance in areas Iike 1 transparency; consistency, accountability more than the sample. Don’t support them when they are doing well by buying cars and houses at that point they don’t need your help they simply want to use you . Treat them as Kings all the time but don’t borrow them money like you are mother Theresa support them don’t spoiler them hunger and suffering is the manager of “the boss ” the rest is cost . Respect them their dirty is the business part personally any clean person in the mining sector Most probably is a scammmer l don’t trust such lots of them proved to me beyond doubt .

NB for debt purchase model inbox or even debt purchase itself.

Minister Says Electricity Shortage To Ease

Govt says the country’s power generation capacity continues to improve with the state announcing that the synchronisation of Hwange Unit 8 is slated for 16 May.

Following the successful synchronisation of Unit 7 last month, Zesa Holdings recently announced a reduction in load shedding in response to the rising domestic power generation capacity, which has seen the country surpassing 1 000MW total output from the lowest of about 300MW in February this year.

Addressing journalists at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair in Bulawayo on Friday, Minister of Energy and Power Development Cde Soda Zhemu announced that Unit 8 was ready and affirmed the improvements in power supply brought about by the coming into full throttle of Hwange Unit 7.

“Hwange Unit 7 has been under construction for quite some time but it was synchronised onto the national grid on 20 March and is still undergoing commissioning tests at various performance levels. I am pleased to announce that on 16 May we will witness the syncronisation of Unit 8 and getting connected onto the national grid. In June we will have Unit 7 being available commercially. What it means is that we shall have a constant supply of 300 megawatts,” he said.

Minister Zhemu also spoke on the positive developments at Kariba Power Station which almost shut down last year due to low water levels, but has seen significant increase in power generation of up to an average of 500 megawatts.

“Over and above that you might be aware that last year we experienced some problems with generations from Kariba, where initially it was supposed to be a total shut down of the Kariba Power Station, but after negotiations with our counterparts in Zambia, the power utility was allowed to generate an average of 250 megawatts.

“As of last week, there has been some technical committee communications where there has been a review of generation from Kariba which has increased the generation to an average of 500 megawatts. However, we intend to increase that in line with the demands for winter wheat production activities,” he said.

While significant strides are being made towards improving power generation internally, vandalism continue to cause a headache with the power utility channeling funds budgeted for other projects towards replacement of lost equipment. Minister Zhemu said measures have been put in place to put a stop to various vandalism activities affecting power supply.

“Vandalism is becoming a scourge where Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) are from time to time putting aside funds to replace transformers and infrastructure that would have been destroyed by vandals. I am happy that there is a lot that they are doing to address that challenge.

“They have introduced drones that are traversing their networks, doing some surveillance and also some that can be launched whenever there are reports of the network being tempered with. They can launch these and immediately some information is obtained which can lead to arrests and prosecution,” he said.

He said Government was also looking at putting in place legislation which can assist in that space by way of coming up with deterrent punishments whenever someone is found destroying electricity equipment. The Second Republic led by President Mnangagwa facilitated the implementation of the 600MW Hwange expansion project at a cost of US$1.5 billion through a Chinese loan deal.- state media

Prison Guards Crumble To Drugs

In light of recent revelations that four officers from Khami Prison have been admitted with serious illnesses as a result of consuming illegal substances, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) has urged its employees to resist the allure of drugs that could endanger their health.

At a graduation ceremony for officers who completed the Conversion, Security, Civic Education, Basic Stores, and Basic Special Weapons and Tactics courses in Ntabazinduna yesterday, ZPCS Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu gave a warning to prison guards.

621 officers in total, 479 men and 142 women, representing all 10 provinces of the nation, graduated. Comm-Gen Chihobvu stated in his statement during a visit to Khami Prison earlier.

Emmerson Mnangagwa recently said drug and substance abuse continues to rob Zimbabwe of the youth dividend that should be at the centre of the country’s developmental thrust.

“Please desist from taking drugs. The President is on record speaking about the fact that we need to combat this. Let’s have a drug-free institution. Let’s go back to our friends and tell them the dangers of drugs. When I was in Khami this week the doctor told me that there are four people who are sick because they were taking some of this illicit alcohol. We have people who are now dying by taking these drugs. So go out there and tell people about the dangers of partaking in this,” Comm-Gen Chihobvu said.

Of the 621 officers who graduated yesterday, 279 took the conversion, something that Comm-Gen Chihobvu said the organisation stood in good stead as their knowhow would help in efforts to standardise the ZPCS’s operations.

“Among the graduands we have today, a total of 279 officers underwent the Conversion Course. The course is meant to develop junior and middle managers for them to become competent leaders who are focused, dependable, honest, knowledgeable and capable of working under pressure towards achieving organisational set goals.

More so, the course serves to produce supervisors and managers who are able to standardise the ZPCS’s operations with the view to effectively and efficiently utilise the organisation’s resources.

It is also aimed at reaffirming the core responsibilities and obligations of the organisation towards its constitutional mandate as well as adding value to middle managers so as to improve their competences as supervisors and implementers of organisational policies.

It is for this reason that the course package included modules such as Psychology, Sociology, Entrepreneurship, Corrections, Counselling, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as well as Prison Administration and Management,” he said.

With 132 of the graduating officers undergoing Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) training, Comm-Gen Chihobvu said the ZPCS was in a position to deal with today’s sophisticated criminals. This was the first time that the ZPCS had successfully run its own SWAT training.

“Worldwide, offenders have become more sophisticated in outwitting law enforcement officers. However, I am pleased to note that the ZPCS is not lagging behind in its efforts to thwart such covert operations.

This has seen us training 132 officers in Special Weapons and Tactics. The course is physically and mentally demanding, and I am advised that only one student dropped out while all the 21 female students endured till the end.

The course is aimed at producing officers who are competent in swift response to prison riots, escorting high security risk inmates, tracking escapees as well as providing protection to Very Important Persons (VIPs).

“This is the first time that the ZPCS has managed to internally run this Training Course after having previously outsourced training services from other sister security organisations. I am glad that our resource persons in this field have also provided training services to Eswatini and currently in Namibia. This should be highly applauded.

We can safely say that as an organisation we are moving in the right direction that seeks to solve contemporary issues which affect the implementation of the ZPCS’s constitutional mandate,” he said.

Comm-Gen Chihobvu also said the ZPCS had a key role to play in the country’s long-term economic future, as the nation could only be productive if its citizens knew they were safe all the time.

“You may want to realise that the ZPCS has a huge task of fulfilling the five-year Strategic Plan (2021-2025) whose key result areas include incarceration and improved welfare of inmates; rehabilitation and integration of offenders; production through income generating projects and institutional development which involves Human Capital Management and Policy Interventions.

Hence, your training has come at the appropriate time when the country is moving towards achieving the Second Republic’s vision of “Towards a Prosperous and Empowered Upper Middle-Income Society by 2030.

“To achieve this vision, we are all guided by the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) which outlines the policy and strategic thrust for the country and the Treasury Budget Framework for the five-year period. In this vein, the objective of NDS1 is to sustain a positive economic growth driven by key economic sectors namely agriculture, mining, tourism and manufacturing.- Sunday News

RBZ Introduces Gold Backed ‘EDtokens’

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) announced yesterday that as one of its many initiatives to salvage the plummeting local currency, it would begin issuing digital tokens backed by gold on May 8.

Gold coins were launched in July of last year as part of a number of economic steps to reduce demand for dollars, stable the Zimbabwe dollar exchange rate, and rein in surging inflation.

But the gold coins have done little to save the local currency that is trading at $1 to $2 100 on the parallel market compared to $1 036 on the official auction market.

“The gold-backed tokens will be fully backed by physical gold held by the bank. As previously advised, the issuance is meant to expand the value-preserving instruments available in the economy and enhance divisibility of the investment instruments and widen their access and usage by the public,” RBZ governor John Mangudya said in a statement after a sitting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) on March 28.

“Gold-backed digital tokens will be issued for investment purposes with a vesting period of 180 days and redeemable in the same way as the existing physical gold coins. The tokens will be available for sale through banks in both foreign currency and Zimbabwean dollar.

“Banks will create specific or dedicated accounts for the holding of gold-backed digital tokens (e-gold wallets or e-gold cards). Holders of physical gold coins at their discretion will be able to exchange or convert through the banking system the physical gold coins into gold-backed digital tokens.”

He added: “The gold-backed digital tokens held in either e-gold or gold cards will be tradable and capable of facilitating person-to-person and person to business transactions and settlements. It therefore means that the gold-backed do tokens would be used both as a means of payment and a store of value.

“Payment for the gold-backed digital tokens or physical gold coins in Zimbabwean dollar shall remain at the current 20% margin above the willing-buyer willing-seller interbank midrate.”

Magistrate Convicts Chamisa Activists Without Trial

A Chiredzi magistrate who bungled a case of an ‘unauthorized’ meeting involving a CCC councilor by convicting him at the close of the State case apologised for the error and wrote to the High Court in Masvingo to help him rectify his mistake.

In a ruling made on April 12, 2023, Justice Garainesu Mawadze who reviewed the case in concurrence with Justice Sunsleey Zisengwe ordered that the case be taken to a different magistrate and be heard afresh.

He said the case was just as good as there is no trial to talk about.

Justice Mawadze expressed surprise at the magistrate’s ‘haste’ to convict Councillor Roger Chikonye. He said the haste resulted in a serious misdirection of the case. Justice Mawadze wondered in his ruling whether it was overzealousness, keenness to convict the accused or sheer ignorance that led to such a serious departure from the legal procedure.

The name of the erring magistrate is not mentioned in court papers in accordance with review processes that seek to protect the dignity of the court. The Mirror however, established that the case between the State and Chikonye was handled by Brian Munyaradzi.

According to the correction sought, the accused applied for discharge at the end of the State case and instead of granting the discharge or placing the accused on his defense, the erring magistrate made a the State case and instead of granting the discharge or placing the accused on his defence, the erring magistrate made a final judgment and declared the accused guilty. This means that the accused was convicted without being afforded an opportunity to say his side of the story or calling his witnesses.

On realising or being alerted of his mistake, the magistrate wrote to the High Court to help him correct it.

“I humbly place the record before the Honourable Judge. The accused applied for discharge at close of State case and in error the court pronounced a final judgment and pronounced verdict guilty.

The trial magistrate concedes to this regrettable error and seeks the Justice’s directions,” read Magistrate Munyaradzi’s application to the High Court.

Justice Mawadze however, had no kind words for the error which baffled even natural justice.

“The proceedings in this matter cannot be allowed to stand. This is so because the procedural irregularity is so fundamental it goes to the root of trial itself. As things stand one may even venture to say as things stand there is no trial at all to talk about,” said Justice Mawadze.

According to the State case Chikonye was arrested for convening a meeting in his ward in Melbourne Park where about 25 people attended. Police acting on a tip-off asked him to produce the authority of convening the meeting which he could not and was arrested.

The accused who is represented by Ross Chavi of Chavi Law Firm however, pleaded not guilty and argued that he did not require to give a notice under the Maintenance of Order and Peace Act as he was merely discharging his duties as an elected local councillor by giving residents feedaback.-Masvingo Mirror

He recovered a used condom from the back of the house where Shonhayi was raping the minor.

ZEC Removes Over 2,5 Dead People From The Voters’ Roll

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has removed the names of 2 529 dead people from the voters’ roll, with the list, as usual, published in the Government Gazette with the normal invitation for any objections.

ZEC regularly and routinely removes dead voters from the roll as data from the Registrar-General is made available from the lists of people who have been certified as dead.

The regular housecleaning is done to ensure that no one can try and vote using identity particulars belonging to a dead person who they might physically resemble, although ID cards are supposed to be handed in to the authorities when a death is reported.

The latest list of the dead voters was published under General Notice 571A of 2023 in the Government Gazette published on Wednesday by ZEC chief elections officer Mr Utloile Silaigwana.

Apart from publishing the names and national identity numbers of the dead voters, Mr Silaigwana also published the constituencies, wards and polling stations they were registered under.

Objections have to come from the actual person listed as dead, and the form the objector needs to fill in not only requires identity details but also a declaration of the willingness of that person to appear before a magistrate to have their living status as the possessor of ID particulars of the mistakenly listed deceased confirmed.

It is almost unheard of for a mistaken notification of death to be recorded, but the Electoral Act requires the formal gazetted notice with the invitation for objections.

Mr Silaigwana said the electoral body adhered to its constitutional mandate and always removed names of dead people from the voters’ roll once their deaths were brought to the attention of the Commission.

The removal of deceased persons is a continuous process that the Commission has always been doing when it receives a list of deceased persons from the Registrar General.

Mai Pastor Issued With “Surprise” Divorce Papers

By A Correspondent- A Harare pastor with Bible Believing Grace Ministries has filed for divorce much to the surprise of his wife of 24 years.

Wonder Naruwade filed the case, in which he intends to divorce his wife, Spiwe Shupai Naruwade (nee Zulu).

The matter will be heard at the High Court, under case number HC 2205/23.

Spiwe was served with summons last week, much to her surprise and is expected to respond within 10 days.

The parties were married on April 2, 1994, in terms of the Marriage Act (Chapter 37).

Allegations are that Naruwade decided to divorce his wife after marrying another woman while his marriage with Spiwe was still subsisting.

In his arguments, Wonder claimed the marriage between them had irretrievably broken down to the extent that there were no prospects of the restoration of a normal marriage relationship.

He said the parties have not stayed together as husband and wife for more than five years.

“The parties have lost love and affection for each other and the parties have irreconcilable differences, have different interests and are incompatible with each other, this honourable Court has jurisdiction to grant a decree of divorce,” reads part of his submissions.

Efforts to get a comment from Naruwade were fruitless as he did not respond to questions.

Allegations are that Naruwade left his wife in February 2018, after he had married another wife, while his marriage was in existence.

“He left home around 2018, purporting to be going to school and he would come back here and there.

“He even paid lobola to the woman and they are blessed with one kid.

“I was surprised to see his summons that he wants a divorce.

“We are blessed with three children, than what he indicates in his summons,” said Spiwe.

A source said Spiwe was devastated by the developments.

“She got depressed, they started the church together and now the new wife has taken over.

“He was even at Spiwe’s house recently and she is disturbed,” said the source.

Spiwe’s sister said:

“I have been helping her a lot with prayers each and every time.

“She wasn’t expecting a divorce decree.”

“Cost Of Living Has Gone Up”: Soldier Pleads With The Court

By A Correspondent- A 1 Commando soldier has told the court that he is earning a meager salary which is not sustainable to effect the requested maintenance variation for one of his 3 children who is living with a disability.

The Zimbabwe National Army member Tichaona Chituu in his notice of opposition offered paying ZW$50 000 from the current ZW$30 000 that he has been contributing towards the upkeep of his minor child aged 4, who cannot walk, talk and is still using diapers. He had also been paying US$40 which he topped up with US$10.

The applicant Prisca Dausi had been seeking a maintenance variation of ZW$150 000 and US$100.

The magistrate granted the order in favour of Chituu.

In his respondent’s Notice of Opposition prepared by Pundu and Company Legal Practitioners, Chituu did not dispute that the general cost of living had risen.

He said:

“However, I beseech the court to consider that the cost of living has gone up for myself as well, and yet as my pay slip reflects, my earnings have not increased. The amount of money I earn on a monthly basis being as I am a duly attested member of the Zimbabwe National Army has not materially changed since the previous order for variation was granted.”

Chituu told the court that his financial circumstances remained the same as when the previous maintenance variation order was granted in September 2022.

“I remain a father of two other children of school going age. The general upkeep of those children including their school expenses, rentals and related expenses are covered by that same meager salary that I earn. I appreciate the fact that the economy is currently tumultuous and finances are generally hard to come by.”

The matter was heard at the Civil Court 6, Thursday 27 April 2023.

The applicant was being represented by a lawyer from Justice for Children Trust who was in no show.

Kwekwe Man Wanted For Killing Own Neighbour

By A Correspondent- A 23 year old man from Langwood Farm in Kwekwe in Midlands Province is on the run after he allegedly knifed his neighbour to death.

A source close to investigations said Tinashe Siziba (27) went after Mehluli Mpofu (26)’s wife with an okapi knife, accusing her of causing his cousin’s arrest.

Mpofu tried to defend his wife and Siziba stabbed him instead.

The incident happened on 18 April at around 3PM at Longwood Farm.

“Siziba fumed at Mpofu’s wife and accused her of being behind his cousin’s arrest and threatened to assault her. The situation spiralled out of control as Siziba fumbled into his pocket and drew an Okapi in a bid to stab Mpofu’s wife, she backtracked pleading for forgiveness,” said the source.

The source continued: “Mpofu sprung to defend his wife, unfortunately, Siziba knifed him on the left shoulder. He fell to the ground, bled and died in a pool of blood.”

Tinashe fled and is yet to be arrested.about:blank

Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident and strongly discouraged community members against taking law into their own hands.

“We discourage community members from resorting to violence when they are solving disputes and they must value the sanctity of life,” said Insp Mahoko.

No Relief 20yrs Later For Chiredzi Communities

By A Correspondent- In 2000, Cyclone Eline caused severe damage to the Chilonga Bridge in the Lowveld region resulting in its collapse.

This bridge connected the town of Chiredzi to rural communities including Chilonga, Chikombedzi, and Malipati, and the Sango Border Post.

Between early February and early March, Cyclone Eline brought unrestrained fury to Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique, with wind speeds of 120km per hour causing widespread destruction

The storm’s impact on Zimbabwe included 136 fatalities.

According to the Civil Protection Unit (CPU), the cyclone caused extensive damage, including the destruction of 60 000 homes, 15 000 damaged toilets, and damage to 54 clinics and 538 schools.

After the carnage, Chilonga bridge, a low-lying narrow structure which is often submerged in floods or becomes impassable during the rainy season, was constructed, earning a place of infamy among communities.

In 2022, 14 people were swept away while trying to cross the low-level bridge, the CPU says.

At one time, the bridge was sealed off to save lives after a NetOne employee and a female colleague died when their car was washed away from the bridge.

The “killer” bridge is on a road that provides the shortest route to Chiredzi, the commercial capital for thousands of communal farmers in the area who rely on the town for goods and services.

The government has repeatedly promised to reconstruct the Chilonga bridge.

But 20 years later, there is no relief for communities in the northern and southern parts of Chiredzi District.

“We have been greatly inconvenienced by the low-lying bridge due to failure by government to replace and reconstruct a bigger bridge like the original one as we cannot cross to Chiredzi town where we get most of our services,” Tsakilani Mundau, a villager from Chipinda under Chief Chilonga said.

A 23-year delay has plagued the construction of Chilonga bridge and government authorities are yet to deliver on their promises.

Citizens whose lives depend on the bridge are caught in the middle of the failed promises.

Agnes Velemu from Velemu Village said some patients have lost their lives on their way to hospital after failing to cross the bridge during the rainy season.

“Sick villagers seeking critical medical attention have also died after failing to cross the river or due to delays while using the longer route of travelling to Chiredzi via Rutenga,” Velemu said.

Velemu said one must travel over 250 km on an inaccessible road to reach the town that is otherwise just 35km away via a shortcut where one has to contend with the dangerous bridge that is always submerged during the rainy season.

The construction of the Tugwi Mukosi Dam has not helped matters as the Runde River frequently bursts at its banks when the floodgates of Zimbabwe’s biggest inland water reservoir are opened.

In 2017, then Transport and Infrastructural Development minister Joram Gumbo said the government was mobilising $200 billion towards the construction of the new bridge.

In February 2018, Gumbo toured the low-lying bridge and insisted that the central government would finance the building of a new all-weather structure.

Gumbo was later moved to the President’s Office before overseeing the construction of the bridge.

By April 2018, only $3 million was raised but only a paltry  $500 000 was paid for initial works at the site.

At the time, authorities said engineers had been deployed to do topographic surveys at the site where the bridge was to be constructed.

The claim was, however, refuted by former Masvingo provincial roads engineer Robert Mukome who said the central government was yet to provide funding for the project.

Mukome has since left the ministry of Transport and is now in the private sector.

Haruzivishe Takes “Free Job Sikhala” Campaign To British Parliament

Exiled opposition activist Makomborero Haruzivishe took the matter of Job Sikhala’s prolonged political imprisonment to the British Parliament on 19 April 2023, hoping to increase international awareness over the case.

Haruzivishe joined hands with Zimbabweans in the United Kingdom, who did a two-day vigil against corruption and politically motivated imprisonments, and on the second day he presented his case to British parliamentarians, hoping they can help secure the freedom of the jailed lawmaker.

“My message to the Parliament was you need to make it unequivocally clear that Job Sikhala must be freed because it happened before in such political cases in 2018 when Tendai Biti was arrested and the British government made its position clear, the international community made its position clear that he should be freed, Emmerson Mnangagwa tweeted that he personally oversaw the release of Tendai Biti and Biti was freed from jail and given his passport back and this is one of the other pleas we had to the British Parliament,” he said.

Sikhala has been in jail since 14 June 2022 for allegedly inciting public violence in Nyatsime through an interview that he allegedly did on ZimLive Youtube.

He has applied for bail more than 10 times at both the magistrates’ court and the High Court.

His applications have been repeatedly dismissed, with the state claiming it is ready to put the matter on trial, but this is yet to happen.

On Wednesday, Sikhala was charged with disorderly conduct, bringing the total number of charges to five.

Two charges pertain to alleged incitement to violence, one is on obstruction of justice, one on communicating falsehoods and another is on disorderly conduct.

Sikhala is not the only opposition leader who is before the courts answering to politically motivated charges and Haruzivishe says he urged the British Parliament to put pressure towards the release of every political prisoner.

“On Job Sikhala, it was to also highlight to parliamentarians how a fellow parliamentarian just like them is suffering simply because of his political beliefs and ideals. I sent the message that he is not a criminal but he is just a political prisoner who is being held illegally in prison. The judicial system has been weaponised against him and the opposition CCC by the ruling party. We have seen how the likes of Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova were abused and are being abused and I am just naming them amongst a plethora of other opposition leaders,” he added.

In his address to the British Parliament, Haruzivishe also spoke about corruption in light of Al Jazeera’s Gold Mafia exposé. He called for the arrest of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Ambassador-at Large to Europe and the Americas, Uebert Angel, who was implicated in the four-part investigative report.

“I participated in it now with fellow Zimbabweans because we have to take a stand and speak out clearly because now we have seen all the four episodes of the Gold Mafia which detailed how gold and mineral resources and also forex are smuggled out of Zimbabwe at industrial scale through government officials,” he said.

Angel is caught on video asking for bribes from undercover journalists posing as bogus tycoons with dirty money that needed to be cleaned. He is in the company of another British citizen Ricky Doolan, who is also caught on tape boasting of his proximity to President Mnangagwa and how he would make it easy for the “investors” to fly gold in and out of Zimbabwe.

Haruzivishe says the men caught on the Al Jazeera documentary are British citizens who have caused suffering to Zimbabweans, hence the government should take action.

“We had to take the Gold Mafia message there because the kingpin of the international money laundering which borders on the international financial terrorism is a British citizen, Ricky Doolan is also a British citizen and the British government must make sure it investigates its citizens who are committing crimes in other countries because the activities of this British citizen tarnish the credibility of financial institutions leading to more economic suffering for the ordinary Zimbabweans and so the best way to deal with it is to ensure that those who can be brought to book are brought to book,” he said. He adds that Angel has violated British law and should be held to account. “Under British law, Uebert Angel has bro ken laws and he can be brought to book. He is the closest that can practically be brought to book closest to Emmerson Mnangagwa,” added Haruzivishe.

Citizens Candidate Selection Takes Shape

By Gift Ostallos Siziba

Today the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) as led by President Nelson Chamisa will hold Citizens caucuses in 6 provinces in the country to validate nominated candidates in wards and constituencies.

As a Citizens Movement we give an opportunity to the electorate to hear what candidates are offering them. This is an important first step in ensuring accountability and responsive leadership.

Furthermore, we do this to train our deployees to be accountable and instil a culture of feedback, accountability and transparency. We are building a new culture of putting citizens are the centre of governance.

Our process will again produce candidates with capacity and ability to lead with a difference and transform our country at every level.

We expect a smooth process which will take us towards announcing our representatives across the country.

Let’s go!

Health Tips For Miners

Dealing With Debt In Mining

Harare Pastor Dumps Wife Of 24yrs Over New Lover

“He even paid lobola to the woman and they are blessed with one kid.

“I was surprised to see his summons that he wants a divorce.

“We are blessed with three children, than what he indicates in his summons,” said Spiwe.

A source said Spiwe was devastated by the developments.

“She got depressed, they started the church together and now the new wife has taken over.

“He was even at Spiwe’s house recently and she is disturbed,” said the source.

    Spiwe’s sister said:

“I have been helping her a lot with prayers each and every time.

“She wasn’t expecting a divorce decree.”

“Finances Are Hard To Come By”: Soldier Tells Court

#GOLDMAFIA- “Mnangagwa Was A Secret Rhodesian Project To Infiltrate Mugabe, ZANU?”

When Grace Mugabe in 2017 told the world Emmerson Mnangagwa once tried to topple President Robert Mugabe at the end of the war in 1979, it didn’t make sense, but all is now coming clear with revelations that Mnangagwa’s age was adjusted in the early 1970s by the Rhodesian regime in order for him to infiltrate ZANU PF and return the country to corrupt white businessmen, as the Al Jazeera documentary, #GOLDMAFIA shows. The documentary shows one of the white Zimbabweans mocking black people, and two of them welding more power than the entire govt of Zimbabwe.

By Baba Jukwa | President Emmerson Mnangagwa has failed to respond to a live report that he was a double agent for Ian Smith’s Rhodesian Front, as published by Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) sources, and also by respected Zimbabwean war veterans. The serious allegations, if true, would represent a significant breach of trust between Mnangagwa and the people of Zimbabwe.

Mnangagwa’s fake pardon, under the guise that he was too young at the time of commision of a train vandalism offence; forged birth certificates, all indicate, after his age was dropped to 17, he was sponsored to go to Zambia and later Mozambique to sabotage the liberation struggle.

Mnangagwa has so far admitted on video that contrary to reports that he worked as a lawyer in Zambia before joining the war effort in 1977, he has not done any formal work at all since 1960- 2023.

Mr. Mnangagwa is still to respond to other live allegations since they were sounded out at a heated press conference in Harare in 2019 by respected war veterans who exposed him as a johnny come late who gatecrashed into leadership.

    Said war veteran, Karen Kazingizi:

“So I want to know these comrades who go around cutting voters’ hands, to find out: are they real comrades, or they are Mugabe’s people he took from Ian Smith’s mercenaries? ….

“The same people he now gives the war vet badge, which soils our image..

“So that’s one other thing we are working on our identity. We are not trying to be these ugly people that the whole nation now thinks we are. Did you ever see us? They put this type of a picture in front of you, of a personality cult who you must worship. The Phillip Chiyangwa type we did not have them at all during the war, the Chiyangwas, they are the richest of them. Can you show me one comrade that you know who went into government in 1980, who was trained like us? Even those who were the seniors, like Muzenda where are they?,” she asked.

Emmerson Mnangagwa is one of them (a male journalist vet quipped in suggesting), to which Kazingizi said,

“Comrade Emmerson came out of prison, according to the history I know; after coming out of prison, he went over to study law, isn’t it?

“After studying law, he was also recruited by Robert Mugabe, to replace those who were fighting the war.

“When the war finished, when Mugabe had ended the war, the people who had elected him to lead them from the Mgagao Declaration, he had chopped them all off, all of them the Gamatox and other factions without number. He kicked all of them out accusing them of betraying the struggle. You know, we don’t want to end up telling the truth, but I think the youth deserve to know the truth.”

Meanwhile, the CIA allegations stem from Mnangagwa’s past business dealings, including a joint venture with a man who was involved in bombings in Mozambique. Additionally, his relationships with white partners who have been accused of exploiting Zimbabwean resources have raised concerns.

While these allegations have not been proven and everyone is entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty, they do raise important questions about Mnangagwa’s past and his relationships with various groups. It is imperative that these allegations are thoroughly investigated in order to determine the truth.

If Mnangagwa is found to be a double agent, it would represent a betrayal of the trust placed in him by the people of Zimbabwe. As a former hero of the liberation struggle, his alleged involvement with the Rhodesian Front would be particularly distressing for those who fought for Zimbabwe’s independence.

However, if Mnangagwa is found to be innocent, it would be unfair to continue to tarnish his reputation based on unproven allegations. In either case, it is essential that justice is served and that the people of Zimbabwe are able to move forward with leaders who they can trust to work in their best interests.

It is important to remember that allegations such as these can have serious consequences and that they should be treated with the utmost care and attention. In order for Zimbabwe to move forward and continue on its path towards progress, it is necessary for these allegations to be resolved through a fair and transparent process.

Ultimately, the goal should be to ensure that the people of Zimbabwe are able to have confidence in their leaders and that the country can continue to move forward towards a brighter future.
