After Years Of Looting Chiadzwa Diamonds, Poor Villagers Made To Cheer A Renovated Dip Tank

By A Correspondent| Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) held a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open a renovated dip tank handed over to Chiadzwa communities as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR).

This is despite the fact that Chiadzwa communities have witnessed massive extraction of diamonds by different companies since from around 2008.

The extracted diamonds have not benefitted the local communities, with the state of schools, roads and houses among others only worsening due to increased traffic.

While many expected the diamond mining companies to invest heavily in modernizing their area of operation so that it can reflect the value of its underground resources, ZCDC saw it fit to renovate a dip tank and make noise about it.

The company’s executives had to drive all the way from their offices in Harare to gather in Chiadzwa to officially commission a dip tank that will be used by the local communities.

Posting on its social media platforms, ZCDC said the recently commissioned dip tank is too good that a person will like taking a dip. WHAT ABOUT THE DIAMONDS THAT ARE NOW INACCESSIBLE TO THE POOR VILLAGERS?

“TOO GOOD YOU WILL FEEL LIKE TAKING A DIP! ZCDC officially handed over Agoni dip tank to the Chiadzwa community which the company rehabilitated as part of its CSR initiatives. The community expressed its gratitude to the company for its involvement in the community,” ZCDC posted on Twitter.

One “ Pfura ” Ward 40 BUT too many of Similar Wards for CCC in Mash Central

By Tinashe Gumbo  | Traditionally, by-elections have never attracted much public interest in Zimbabwean politics. However, the successive by-elections that were held on 26 March and 7 May 2022 have generated a lot of debates and interest among political activists, analysts and the media.

The country held an almost mini-general election on 26 March 2022 following massive recalls of legislators and Councilors by the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) led by Senator Douglas Mwonzora as well as some few deaths and reassignments of incumbents. This was followed by yet another by-election process on 7 May 2022 held in Rusape Ward 5, Chitungwiza Ward 7, Kariba Ward 3,4 and 8, Mutare Ward 14 and 16 as well as Pfura Ward 40.

The results of these by-elections have largely been described as a mirror of the 2023 harmonized elections. The excellent performance by one of the “newly” established opposition parties, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) surprised many, while “old” opposition players such as the MDC’s dismal show confirmed what the majority in the opposition circles wished for after the 2020 Supreme Court Ruling. On it’s part, the Zimbabwe African National Union Patriotic Front (ZANU PF) also celebrated its retention of mostly the rural vote but also its victory in Epworth.

Of particular interest for this piece, is the by-election result from Pfura Ward 40 of Mt Darwin in Mashonaland Central. The ward was won by the ZANU PF with a huge margin. The CCC performance in that Ward almost distorted its general show of popularity witnessed on 26 March and on 7 May in the rest of the contested wards and constituencies.

Pfura Ward 40 results emerged as one talking point from the 7 May by-election. The discussion is on why the opposition lost that “one” when all the other seven wards were responsive to the CCC. The CCC won almost 88% (seven out of eight) of the wards on offer. The ZANU PF scooped this “special” ward from Pfura while the game remained tough for the MDC which maintained its “zero” trend from the first match played on 26 March.

_Pfura_ _Ward_ _40_ _is_ _in_ _Mashonaland_ _Central_ _!_

It is critical to quickly remind each other that Pfura is located in Mashonaland Central. The province remains a major challenge for the opposition parties to perform meaningfully. Even from the days of the “MDC”, I mean the undivided MDC of 1999 to 2004, the game had not been easy in that pitch as the opposition virtually failed to break ZANU PF’s defense in that province. At best, the opposition won “something” in 2008 during the days of the likes of Shepherd Mushonga and some few Councilors in Bindura and Mvurwi in the recent years. Otherwise, generally, the opposition continues to struggle in the province.

Therefore, the Pfura Ward 40 result of 7 May 2022 should not be a surprise. It should be understood within the broader context affecting the whole province. The result, should indeed allow the opposition to sit down and reflect about its performance in such strategic provinces as the country gears up for the 2023 plebiscite.

_The_ _Results_ _at_ _a_ _Glance_

The ZANU PF Candidate in Pfura Ward 40, Gift Madziwa, polled 1461 votes while the CCC’s Candidate, Tobias Samuel scored 77 votes. The total vote cast was 1557 where 1538 were valid. The voter population in that ward was 3905 giving us a 39.9% voter turnout for that election. While the turnout was not generally impressive, the gap between the two contestants should be a big cause for worry on the part of the opposition, beyond the CCC. The two-digit figure is not something to celebrate about at all. If maintained, the figure will likely lead to the scaring away of potential supporters as they will not have confidence in that party.

_Any_ _Change_ _from_ _the_ _past_ _?_

Certainly, no changes from history. The trend has been sustained in the province in general in terms of electoral performance by the ruling and the opposition parties. The trend was maintained in Mt Darwin and in the entire province. For instance, in 2015, ZANU PF’s by-election Candidate in Mt Darwin West National House of Assembly, Barnwell Seremwe polled 18 315 against the Transform Zimbabwe and the National Constitutional Assembly’s candidates who scored 302 and 216 respectively. The seat had fallen vacant following the elevation of Dr Joyce Teurairopa Mujuru to the position of Vice President in 2013, before she was fired the following year due to internal factional wars in her party.

In the same constituency, ZANU PF had scored 22 877 votes in 2013 elections. Therefore, Pfura Ward 40 feeds from the mother constituencies of Mt Darwin and the grandmother (Mashonaland Central province). Pfura Ward 40 learnt every trick of it from the constituency and the province. Other wards and constituencies across the province have also benefited from this trend.

_But_ _why_ _is_ _Mashonaland_ _Central_ _Difficult_ _for_ _the_ _Opposition_ _?_

The opposition political parties should try to answer this question in their boardrooms as they plot for Mashonaland Central province. They should be contending that on 7 May 2022, they faced a single “Pfura” ward and indeed, in 2023, there will be hundreds of these “Pfura” wards in Mt Darwin; Rushinga; Mvurwi; Centenary; Shamva; Bindura; Mazowe; Guruve and Muzarabani. The “Pfura” wards will be too much for the opposition. Better be prepared! Better learn from 7 May test case and improve.

I always tell people that profiling of these wards, constituencies, provinces and subsequent planning accordingly is the answer to opposition headache. The opposition should clearly understand the historic, political, economic, cultural and social terrain of these areas. Certainly, by now, the opposition should have learnt and improved, but alas, they are yet to “get it” and act as per the dictates of these strategic provinces.

_A_ _little_ _bit_ _about_ _the_ _province_ :

1. I am convinced that personalities count in politics. Heavyweights’ names in a political party have a direct bearing on an election outcome. Prominent ZANU PF figures from Mashonaland Central have continued to “influence” elections held in that province. Interestingly, some of them are doing so in death and in exile as well as in their private lives. Their shadows and history continue to haunt the people of Mashonaland Central. A mere mention of their names automatically informs the voter of where to put his or her vote on election day.

However, some are still breathing politically and biologically. The list of big names that continue to haunt voters in the province is very long: Dr Mujuru; the late Elliot Manyika; the first lady Dr Auxilia Mnangagwa of Chiweshe; Savior Kasukuwere who is in exile; the late Border Gezi; Nicholas Goche; Lazarus Dokora; Christopher Kuruneri; Chenhamo Chakezha Chimutengwende; the late Vice President Joseph Musika of Chiweshe, Major Cairo Mhandu and the new and emerging names in the politics of that province such as Kazembe Kazembe; Tafadzwa Musarara, Martin Dhina and some more progressive but politically influential such as the likes of Fortune Chasi among others.

Studies have confirmed that voters tend to want to protect the political positions of their national leaders. Thus, they will always listen to the political advice from those who come from their local communities but also holding national political positions. Remember the positions held by many of these leaders at national level both in the ZANU PF party and in Cabinet and Presidium. Most of these were and some are still in Cabinet while others hold key party positions at national level.

Remember Gezi, Manyika and Kasukuwere roles in the national Commissariat of ZANU PF. Remember the role played by Goche as the Negotiator for the Inclusive Government and his role in Cabinet. Mujuru-Musika Presidium roles too. Kazembe-Dokora-Kuruneri-Chenhamo-Chasi and others’ Ministerial posts. These figures virtually ran the country from Mashonaland Central.

During an election season, these powerful positions are utilized in mobilizing vote for that party. Powerful position come with political, material and financial power hence motivation for voting towards that party.

One will argue that the same can be tried by the CCC, MDC or any other party. A number of senior political figures in the opposition come from particular rural wards and constituencies. Their local community members envy them for holding those national positions even though they are still in opposition. Why not ensure that these national leaders virtually camp in their rural wards during elections to campaign for their local candidates? They have the national political flavor just like their ZANU PF counterparts. Certainly, some changes can be noted, at least for the national Presidential vote.

2. Mashonaland Central saw a number of families accessing land during the “land redistribution program”. This remains a tool for winning elections in the province. It is good that some of the key opposition parties are now beginning to emphasize that “land reform” is an irreversible process. We heard this from the CCC in Masvingo-and this can be the right way to go. Such messages should be heard more in provinces such as Mashonaland Central. This policy framework should be amplified in the upcoming elections.

I read a twitter post by Chalton Hwende the Secretary General of the CCC on 24 April 2022 elaborating on the land reform issue in the context of his party’s campaign in Pfura Ward 40. He indicated that “Ward 40 in Mt Darwin has a lot of resettlement areas. The situation in farming communities is changing. In 2001, 82.4% of beneficiaries got land through land invasions but by 2015, 50.0% was now through inheritance (young people who are cash focused and hungry for change)”.

While such analysis maybe be true and helpful in strategy development for a campaign, communicating it publicly may be dangerous especially when dealing with ZANU PF in Mashonaland Central. One can easily expose his or her party supporters who will be then targeted by the opponent(ZANU PF). Opposition parties should learn (and learn well) from ZANU PF-it will not publicise its strategic data, let alone its strategy. In areas such as Mashonaland Central, underground tactics will certainly bear better fruits than open actions.

3. The ZANU PF maximizes history. There have been strong messages that portray the people of Mashonaland Central as the “main victims” of the effects of the liberation war. People are reminded of such and such battle fought in Muzarabani, in Mt Darwin or Guruve because of the proximity of these areas to Mozambique. Yes, these were among the key entry points for liberation fighters into the country but surely not the only ones. People are also always reminded of Charwe Nyakasikana (Mbuya Nehanda) as having been from Mazowe.

Surely, such messages can be neutralized and countered by the opposition, if they are really serious about wrestling the province from ZANU PF. Noone should monopolise the “victimness” of the area. Noone should monopolise history. History belongs to all of us hence Mbuya Nehanda should be for all of us despite our contemporary political differences.

4. In 2000 Constitutional Referendum, Mashonaland Central was one of the areas which generally supported the YES vote. They voted for the Government sponsored Constitutional Draft when the majority rejected it.

The YES received 578 000 votes against 697 754 NO votes nationally. The Mashonaland Central province received showers of praise from the ZANU PF party and Government leaders. Therefore, this remained a signature historical performance that ZANU PF wants to protect. Reference has always been made during political rallies that “Mashonaland Central defended the country from the imperialists in 2000”.

5. The Chibondo (Mt Darwin) exhumation and “reburials” of the people alleged to have been killed during the liberation war time by the whites might have been another contributor to the general feeling towards ZANU PF in the area. The exhumations and reburials took place around 2011 being led by the ZANU PF leadership under the cover of the Fallen Heroes Trust. Those 849 bodies which were exhumed in Mt Darwin were paraded for the community members to see.

The exercise was so emotional that community members would not have “voted otherwise” in the subsequent elections. It was presented as an example of the white man’s (and woman) impunity as the Rhodesian Government “attempted to suppress the will of the people” during the liberation war.

6. The NHANGA-GOTA exercise has been used by the first lady to garner up support for the ruling party. These so-called traditional meetings have been concentrated in the province and they have mobilized potential “voters” through the traditional leaders and party structures. It is likely that this exercise will bring huge numbers of supporters to ZANU PF for 2023. While the process has been regarded as a form of some philanthropic work, no doubt, it has some political results which are falling onto the ZANU PF plate.

7. But the serious political violence against the opposition political parties’ membership perpetrated by alleged ZANU PF sympathizers also continues to be a factor that influences the election results in the province.

Remember the Elliot Pfebve (MDC) Vs Elliot Manyika (Battle of the Elliots) fierce violence filled campaign. The campaign for the Bindura seat that had fell vacant following the death of Border Gezi in a car accident along Masvingo road was violent. The violence psychologically affected the voters to this day.

8. During the early days of the formation of the MDC, Elliot Pfebve’s brother Matthew was killed in Mt Darwin in 2000, the same period when other first MDC victims, Tichaona Chiminya and Talent Mabika were burnt to death in Manicaland. Furthermore, the murder of Trymore Midzi, another MDC activist and the subsequent battle of Bindura (between the ZANU PF supporters and the mainly MDC mourners during his burial) in 2002 was another notable key incident in the province. All these bring back memories of violence that influence election outcomes. The memories continue to linger in the voters’ minds and obviously reminding them to “vote wisely”.

9. It has also been noted that Mt Darwin has been one of the ZANU PF defined districts which did well with regards to the party’s voter mobilization campaign during their internal leadership renewal processes in 2021. Such internal processes help mobilize and motivate party structures even for external elections. The ZANU PF machinery is effective and very efficient when it comes to mobilisation, coordination and activation of party structures. By the way, the party is known for its massive audit and verification exercises for its structures. It was noted that Mazowe and Mt Darwin districts did very well in this regard during ZANU PF’s internal processes last year. The results were seen on 7 May 22 in Pfura Ward 40.

The ZANU PF is disciplined when it comes to ensuring that after internal elective processes, all supporters are whipped into party line, ready for supporting each other against the opposition. It has the ability to “resolve” differences after every internal process. Remember, the Musarara-Kazembe-James Makamba fierce battle for provincial chairmanship. Yet, in all the by-elections that followed in Bindura (26 March) and in Pfura Ward 40, one could not tell that there was once such feud among major factions.

_Conclusion_

While there is overwhelming evidence to explain the dismal performance of the opposition parties in Mashonaland Central, there is still room for them to improve. Instead of wasting time campaigning in urban areas where they are assured of a win, they should invest time and other resources in this hard to win province.

Otherwise, the CCC’s impressive show of popularity during the two by-elections, barely four months after its formation, is something to commend. The MDC needs to go back to the drawing board and find the right formula for this game. The ZANU PF also did well in its defense of traditional territories. Yet, there will be many “Pfura” wards and constituencies for the opposition parties to contend with. A lasting solution should be sought when dealing with the Mashonaland Central case.

DJ Fantan Nabbed Over Domestic Violence

By A Correspondent- Music producer DJ Fantan was arrested on Tuesday after his wife told police he beat her and locked her up at their home.

Fantan, real name Arnold Kamudyariwa, was detained at Waterfalls Police Station.

Police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said: “DJ Fantan has been arrested for domestic violence and is in police custody.”

His wife, Gamuchirai Nemukunyu, said Fantan had a history of becoming violent when the couple argued.

“I’ve suffered enough at the hands of this man,” she told H-Metro. “He has been assaulting me, abusing me and destroying our property. I think it’s high time justice takes its course. I want him to be stopped from abusing me.”

In a post on his Facebook page, Fantan railed at what he called “false accusations.”

“My family and I are safe,” he wrote, without addressing the domestic abuse allegations.

Nemukunyu claimed DJ Fantan did not want her to “do my own things.”

“To him I should be a housewife only, responsible for household chores. This is despite the fact that he doesn’t give me money. I’ve suffered emotional and economic abuse. So, when I challenge all this, he becomes violent, abusing me and destroying property.”

DJ Fantan was previously arrested in January 2021 after hosting an illegal New Year’s Eve party in breach of Covid-19 regulations. He was jailed for 12 months but the sentence was reduced to three months by the High Court, with an option to pay a Z$2,000 fine which he took.

Gvt Bailout For Struggling PSMAS

By A Correspondent- Struggling medical insurance company Premier Medical Aid Society (PSMAS) will receive a government bailout to clear its debts and improve its balance sheet, vice president Constantino Chiwenga said on Tuesday.

Chiwenga, who is also the health minister, said government employees who make up most of PSMAS’ 900,000 customers were struggling to obtain medical services on the strength of a PSMAS health insurance policy.

He said in many instances, hospitals and pharmacies were refusing to honour the membership card, citing non-payment of claims submitted to PSMAS. This has resulted in PSMAS policy holders being required to make payments up-front, often in foreign currency.

Where PSMAS medical aid cards are accepted, significant co-payments are also required, both in respect of consultation fees and the purchase of prescription drugs, he said.

“The government has committed additional financial resources on a monthly basis to ensure the viability of PSMAS and PSMI to deliver on their core mandate. The funds are targeted to retire the debt to PSMI and other third-party service providers,” Chiwenga said, without disclosing the size of the bailout.

“That support will extend to PSMI to pay its workforce and procure adequate medical drugs consistently.”

He said PSMAS had confirmed to the government that it had accumulated significant debts with service providers.

“Concerned about the failure by employees to access health services posed by this situation, the government urged PSMAS to use a significant proportion of the money from the national treasury to retire the debt owed to the service providers in order to restore the integrity of the PSMAS medical aid card used by employees to access health services,” Chiwenga said.

“The restoration of trust will also remove the distress caused by huge shortfalls to service providers that would require civil servants to find the money for co-payments.”

Chiwenga assured government workers, who form 90 percent of contributions to PSMAS, that “the government’s support for their healthcare needs remains intact and unwavering.”

“In addition, effective measures have been and will continue to be undertaken to secure the character and viability of PSMAS which most of them depend on for healthcare services,” he said.

The government currently supports each employee who chooses to become a PSMAS member by paying 80 percent of the subscriptions translating to at least US$5 million in employer contribution monthly and US$60 million annually.

Firm Slapped With Fine for Fraud

CONSULTANCY company Philjoy Secretarial Services has been fined $30 000 for fraud after crafting a fake CR14.
Harare magistrate Munashe Chibanda ordered the company to pay the fine or have its property attached.

The court heard that on a date unknown to the prosecutor, but during the period between July 29, 2002 and August 2020 and at the Registrar of Companies office, Harare, the company represented by Phillip Danga sought to mislead the public that it had been appointed company secretary of Balwearie Holdings (Pvt) Limited.

It is alleged that Danga prepared a fraudulent CR14 document and filed the same with the Register of Companies offices.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Danga further told the court that the CR14 was prepared by his clerk, and that he was only given the document to sign.

After a full trial, Chibanda said the State managed to prove a prima facie case against the company.

“It is common cause that the CR14 is full of misrepresentations. The Registrar of Companies clearly told the court that it was the duty of the accused to supply correct information. The State has managed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt that the accused committed the offence. I, hereby, find the accused guilty,” Chibanda ruled. -Newsday

ZINASU Statement On National Shutdown

The Zimbabwe National Students Union would like to congratulate the masses of the students for standing up and marking the ground, and proving to the world that we will never fold our hands when the regime is deploying taliban policies which seeks to eliminate our right to education.

We also want to applaud all the progressive forces who poured solidarity in our struggle for affordable education It was clear to all that the regime panicked and its reactionary behaviour manifested through the deployment of state security agencies throughout the streets.

All the State Institutions in the country were manned by police and army vehicles as if the security agencies want to enrol. The main objective was to close all the state institutions and this is what happened all tertiary institutions were on a sabbatical.

The state has temporarily declared war against the students its clear to all that on the 9th May 2022 the state declared a state of emergency against harmless students who are just demanding quality and affordable education, this will not deter our fighting spirit. This is just the beginning of our action this is a campaign and it is still in motion.

Formula milk companies are paying social media platforms and influencers to gain direct access to pregnant women and mothers at some of the most vulnerable moments in their lives. The global formula milk industry, valued at some US$ 55 billion, is targeting new mothers with personalized social media content that is often not recognizable as advertising.

A new World Health Organization (WHO) report titled Scope and impact of digital marketing strategies for promoting breast-milk substitutes has outlined the digital marketing techniques designed to influence the decisions new families make on how to feed their babies.

Through tools like apps, virtual support groups or ‘baby-clubs’, paid social media influencers, promotions and competitions and advice forums or services, formula milk companies can buy or collect personal information and send personalized promotions to new pregnant women and mothers.

The report summarizes findings of new research that sampled and analyzed 4 million social media posts about infant feeding published between January and June 2021 using a commercial social listening platform. These posts reached 2.47 billion people and generated more than 12 million likes, shares or comments.

Formula milk companies post content on their social media accounts around 90 times per day, reaching 229 million users; representing three times as many people as are reached by informational posts about breastfeeding from non-commercial accounts.

This pervasive marketing is increasing purchases of breast-milk substitutes and therefore dissuading mothers from breastfeeding exclusively as recommended by WHO.

“The promotion of commercial milk formulas should have been terminated decades ago,” said Dr Francesco Branca, Director of the WHO Nutrition and Food Safety department. “The fact that formula milk companies are now employing even more powerful and insidious marketing techniques to drive up their sales is inexcusable and must be stopped.”

The report compiled evidence from social listening research on public online communications and individual country reports of research that monitors breast-milk substitute promotions, as well as drawing on a recent multi-country study of mothers’ and health professionals’ experiences of formula milk marketing. The studies show how misleading marketing reinforces myths about breastfeeding and breast milk and undermines women’s confidence in their ability to breastfeed successfully.

The proliferation of global digital marketing of formula milk blatantly breaches the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes (the Code), which was adopted by the 1981 World Health Assembly.

The Code is a landmark public health agreement designed to protect the general public and mothers from aggressive marketing practices by the baby food industry that negatively impact breastfeeding practices.

Despite clear evidence that exclusive and continued breastfeeding are key determinants of improved lifelong health for children, women and communities, far too few children are breastfed as recommended. If current formula milk marketing strategies continue, that proportion could fall still further, boosting companies’ profits.

The fact that these forms of digital marketing can evade scrutiny from national monitoring and health authorities means new approaches to Code-implementing regulation and enforcement are required. Currently, national legislation may be evaded by marketing that originates beyond borders.

WHO has called on the baby food industry to end exploitative formula milk marketing, and on governments to protect new children and families by enacting, monitoring and enforcing laws to end all advertising or other promotion of formula milk products.

Jah Prayzah’s manager, Keen Mushapaidze, said Andy Muridzo was NEVER contracted to the Military Touch Movement family.

Jah Prayzah’s manager responded to one of the posts, which generated a lot of debate on social media, about Muridzo’s utterances.
Mushapaidze said Andy Muridzo was never officially part of MTM.
Below is the statement posted on social media by Mushapaidze.
“…vane makore vabuda muMTM wani in fact ndovakatanga kubuda, by now vangadai vaita take the WORLD vega.

Nyanga Man Fined For Wearing Red

By- A 76-year-old Nyanga man was recently fined after his 15-year-old grandson was convicted for allegedly violating an odd traditional custom of wearing red colours during the rainy season.

Fungai Mushonga, the Headman for Tamunesa village in Nyanga District in Manicaland province on 7 January 2022 took the unprecedented and bizarre decision in which he ordered 76-year-old Peter Makunura to pay four goats, two chickens and US$20 after faulting him for allowing his 15-year-old grandson, who had visited him, to wear a red cap during the rainy season, a practice which is outlawed in the village.

Makunura was also charged for undermining authority of the Headman by not presenting himself at a primary court session, where he was supposed to answer to the frivolous charges.

The 76-year-old Makunura has now engaged Kelvin Kabaya and Peggy Tavagadza of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, who recently filed an application for review of the proceedings presided over by Mushonga and seeking to set aside the absurd decision of the primary court.
In the application, Kabaya and Tavagadza argued that Mushonga’s decision to summon a minor child to appear in court without his guardian and to permit the Messenger of Court to attach and take into execution Makunura’s property, when he was never a party to the proceedings and was never summoned to appear in the primary court, was grossly irregular as to amount to an illegality.
The human rights lawyers also contended that the decision by Mushonga to enter a judgment in default in circumstances involving a minor child was grossly irregular as to induce a sense of shock and revulsion.
Kabaya and Tavagadza want Mushonga’s judgment to be set aside and that he be ordered to pay back the four goats, two chickens and US$20 to Makunura.
In his defence, Mushonga, who is opposing the application, argued that it is taboo in his jurisdiction for his subjects to “wear red clothing during the rainy season” and that he could not ascertain the age of Makunura’s grandson for him to realise that he was a minor.
Nyanga Magistrate Notebulgar Muchineripi is yet to hand down judgment on Makunura’s application.
In some communities, it is believed that wearing red clothes when it is raining attracts lightning.

Of The Herald, Misinformation, Malinformation and Misogyny

By Stephen Sarkozy Chuma

10-05-2022

Next month one of the country’s oldest daily publications, The Herald will turn 131 on 27 June.

For all its 131 years of existence, The Herald has learnt nothing about free, fair and credible ethics of journalism.

The way the newspaper reports on opposition officials particularly those from CCC, one will be forgiven to think The Herald is published at ZANU PF headquarters.

A Colonial Legacy

It is crystal clear that The Herald has learnt everything and forgotten nothing from its days as The Rhodesian Herald. A culture of planting hatred among citizens, misinformation, malinformation and misogyny underlines the publication’s reportage.

Simply put the publication has made negative framing CCC officials its daily business.

The Herald and Malinformation and Misinformation

Malinformation is giving information that is mearnt to tarnish someone’s image while misinformation means giving false information.

The Herald has perfected the art of the misinformation and malinformation!

Today the publication carried a story attacking CCC youth leader, Cecillia Chimbiri describing her as “uncouth”. True to form, they also misinformed the nation that Chimbiri was humilited at a youth symposium held yesterday in the capital.

Shockingly, the journalist who wrote the story turned a blind eye on the humiliation of ZANU PF youth leader, Taurai Kundishaya who was castigated by youths for calling for invasion of Hopewell Chin’ono’s goat farm.

This month marks exactly 2 years after Chimbiri, Joana Mamombe and Netsai Marova were abducted from police custody. The trio were only found days later, tortured, sexually abused and in bad state at Muchapondwa shops in Bindura South.

Since then, there has been a sustained attack by The Herald on the CCC trio.

In one of their stories, the publication had a screaming blue lie of a headline misinforming the nation that the trio said they were never abducted.

The Herald has already tried, sentenced and hanged Chimbiri, Mamombe and Marova even before conclusion of their trial by the courts of law.

Ideally public media should advance for protection of citizens’ rights but alas, The Herald condone abduction and torture.

It is now a misnomer to refer to The Herald and ZBC as public media because ZANU PF interests are not public interests.

The Herald is an antithesis responsible journalism!

Wadyajena Tuesday tweeted saying that his party would hunt down and eliminate social justice activists organising peaceful protests against the government.

Responding to Wadyajena’s relcless statements Tesday, CCC tresurer general, David Coltart said the senior Zanu PF member should be called to order.

Tweeted Coltart:

This language coming from an MP is unlawful & unacceptable.

@PoliceZimbabwe

it is a crime to threaten to “hunt down & discipline” people. If crimes are committed it is the police & courts’ job to arrest & convict – no one else. But calling on people to stay at home isn’t a crime.

Bathug, Linda Masarira Lies Saying Maponga Didn’t Travel To SA

By Showbiz Reporter | No stranger to controversy, activist Linda Masarira has announced claiming her colleage Joshua Maponga did not at all travel to South Africa when the opposite is true.

The development follows outrage over Maponga’s visit to Azania where he was pictured struggling for health.

Zimbabweans took to the Internet to slam the bearded activist to South Africa while on medicals. His female bath-alite Masarira ran to the miceoblogging website, Twitter, to say Maponga was never in South Africa. “I heard people saying Maponga is in hospital in SA this and that then I met him right here in Harare.

“Am just wondering if Harare is now South Africa?,” she said.

Unbeknown to Masarira was the fact that Zimbabweans already know that Maponga has just sneaked into Zimbabwe from South Africa.

Deputy Agric Minister Karoro Implicated in Presidential Inputs Fraud

By Jane Mlambo| The deputy minister of the ministry of lands, water and agriculture Honourable Douglas Karoro is implicated in a case where GMB was prejudiced of US$24 000.

The Mbire legislator is said to have acted in connivance with Mugove Glen Chidamba to sell bags of fertilizers meant to benefit local farmers under the Presidential Inputs Programme, according to court papers obtained by this publication.

“On the 25th day of April 2022, the accused with the assistance of Honourable Douglas Karoro, received 400 x 50kg Ammonium Nitrate fertilizers from GMB Aspindale, which was supposed to be transported to GMB Mushumbi and benefit local farmers under the Presidential Inputs Programme.

“The accused then sold 200 bags to different customers in Harare and did not deliver the fertilizer to GMB Mushumbi,” the state alleges.

When the GMB Aspindale manager learnt that the consignment had not reached GMB Mushumbi Depot he quizzed the deputy agriculture minister who then hatched a plan with the accused Chidamba to conceal the fraud.

“To cover up for the offense accused returned 200 bags of Ammonium Nitrate ,132 x 50kg Super Fert, Calcium Ammonium Nitrate   and 69 x 50kg Super Fert, Cotton Top Dressing Calcium Ammonium Nitrate misrepresenting that it was the same fertilizer they had collected from the same Depot on 25 April 2022,” added the state.

However, the defense lawyer representing Chidamba argued that the accused was being sacrificed when it was clear that it is the deputy minister Karoro who should be answering the charges since he is the one who had contacted GMB.

The lawyer is seeking bail and the ruling for the bail application has been set for   Wednesday.

Nakamba To Feature In Clash With Liverpool

Marvelous Nakamba has been tipped to feature in Aston Villa’s team to face Liverpool tonight.

The midfielder has sat out in the previous games after taking long to wear off the rust. He spent four months on the sidelines with a knee injury that required surgery.

Nakamb returned to action last month but has only featured once, playing for two minutes in the goalless draw against Leicester City.

With Jacob Ramsey not available for the Reds clash, coach Steven Gerrard could be forced to make some changes and bring in the Warriors international to play.

However, that will depend whether the Zimbabwean is match fit or not.

If no red flag is waved on him, he is expected play in the Villa midfield consisting of David Luiz and John McGinn.

“It’s Bar Talk”: Jasper Mangwana On Rigging Allegations

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has demanded proof of how it “rigs” elections, describing as “bar talk” allegations that it manipulates the results in favour of the ruling Zanu-PF party.

Addressing political parties attending a youth caucus peace-building meeting hosted by 4-H Zimbabwe Foundation in Harare yesterday, Zec spokesperson Jasper Mangwana said:

“If you want to say Zec has rigged elections or that something has not been done correctly, then we need substantive evidence. There is a provision of the Electoral Court in the Electoral Act where you should take all these matters.

You as the political actors are the same people who are actually sending the voters away. Elections end with V11s; those other issues about favour and malpractices are just bar talk without proof.”

He added: “If you have an issue with an electoral process, you are the people in Parliament, and if you have a problem with the law that you put into place, go back and sort it there in Parliament because Zec does not make laws,” he said.

The electoral body has been at the receiving end of salvos over how it has been presiding over the country’s elections, as well producing a flawed voters roll, vote rigging and militarisation of its secretariat, among other accusations.

Mangwana also said Zec did not control the pre-electoral campaign environment.

“It’s not an electoral provision for Zec to manage campaigns. We do not approve campaigns, we don’t even talk about such issues; you drag us into the mud for nothing. Those are issues outside our mandate,” he said.

Mangwana blamed political party youths for causing voter apathy.

“There seems to be voter apathy among youths because you are the same people who want to be voted for. One day you go to your constituency and say vote for me, and the next day you say the election was rigged. Do you expect that young person to take you seriously?  Do you really think that young person will go to a voter registration centre and say I have come to register to vote?”

Meanwhile, Zanu-PF youths caused chaos at the event as they tried to stop opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) youths from making contributions during the meeting.

4-H Zimbabwe Foundation director John Muchenje urged youths affiliated to different political parties to promote peace and tolerance in the country.

“We need to continue having similar engagements with these parties, as an organisation. This was just a Harare engagement, but we are planning on similar engagements in other provinces,” Muchenje said, adding that political intolerance and violence have taken centre stage in the country’s electoral
processes.

During the March 26 by-election campaign period, a CCC supporter Mboneni Ncube was killed in Kwekwe while attending a rally. There was also violence during the weekend by-elections in Chitungwiza, which resulted in several people being injured.

Retailers Defy ED Directive. What Next?

By A Correspondent- Retailers have defied President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s directive to adhere to the official interbank rate when pricing goods.

On Saturday, Mnangagwa announced a raft of measures aimed at controlling the spiralling inflation, which included a directive to retailers to stick to the official interbank rate of $280 to avoid price distortions.

The United States dollar is trading at $165,9 against the local currency at the official foreign auction system, but is going for around $280 at the interbank rate and $400 on the black market.

Mnangagwa said: “The willing-buyer willing-seller interbank foreign currency arrangement has assisted in the price discovery mechanisms of the exchange rate in the economy. In this regard, retailers and wholesalers are, with immediate effect, allowed to benchmark their pricing to the average interbank rate with a maximum allowable variance of 10%. The security agents of government and the Financial Intelligence Unit shall with immediate effect enhance their roles to effectively monitor financial transactions in order to address the delinquent arbitrage behaviour in the economy.”

However, a snap survey conducted by NewsDay yesterday revealed that most retailers had adopted the black market rates of between $350 and $400 in pricing goods and services, totally disregarding Mnangagwa’s directive.

For instance, bread which is pegged at $450 a loaf was being alternatively charged between US$1 and US$1,40, which is way above the interbank exchange rate. Cooking oil was pegged at around $1 600 for 2 litres, but a consumer could pay US$4 showing a 1:400 exchange rate to the dollar.

Some retailers described the inflated exchange rate as US dollar discounts whereby customers are charged less for paying using the US dollar to boost foreign currency sales.

In interviews with the NewsDay, retailers said the official auction and interbank rates were not sustainable because they could not meet the costs of running their businesses if they adhered to the official exchange rates.

“It is very unprofitable to continue using the official exchange rate,” said one retailer who spoke on condition of anonymity.

“The interbank and auction rates are always lower than the parallel market rate. If we stick to the interbank rate, consumers who want to spend the US dollar will first go to the black market and sell their money at a higher rate, then come and use the local currency. We will not be able to get foreign currency, which is, however, very important for us to get supplies of some goods and services,” he added.

Economist Trust Chikohora said:  “The measures that were introduced by the President are commendable, but one wonders how the auction rate will be determined.

There is need for a currency indaba to deliberate on the measures that have been put in place so that we come up with holistic and sustainable solutions to address the currency crisis.

There is need to share ideas on currency issues, which has a direct bearing to the pricing situation, the prevailing inflationary situation and economic growth.”

Bizarre Traditional Leader’s Ruling Spills Into Court

The case of a Nyanga man who was fined by a local traditional leader after his minor child wore red during a rainy season has spilt into a magistrates’ court where a ruling is yet to be made. The 74-year-old Peter Makura approached the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights who are now representing him.

Below is an update on the case as reported by ZLHR:

SEPTUAGENARIAN CHALLENGES TRADITIONAL LEADERS’ BIZARRE CUSTOM

A 76-year-old Nyanga man has asked a traditional leader to return his livestock and money which he paid as punishment after his 15-year-old grandson was convicted and fined for allegedly violating an odd traditional custom of wearing red colours during the rainy season.

Recently Elected ZAPU Official Resigns

By A Correspondent- Opposition ZAPU’s treasure- general, Future kaZulu Msebele, has resigned from the party, just a few months after he was elected to the position.

Msebele was elected the party’s treasurer-general at the party’s elective congress held in Bulawayo last October where Sibangilizwe Nkomo, the son of the late vice president Joshua Nkomo, was elected the party’s president at the congress.

He tendered his resignation from the party in a letter dated May 9, 2022, but did not cite his reasons for quitting. Reads the letter:

It is with regret that I tender my resignation from our beloved party which I have served diligently and with pride and honour since my youth.

I find that my conscience does not allow me to carry on with my duties. Therefore, after much introspection and discourse with my family I have decided to lay down the baton. The revolution is a relay.

ZAPU spokesperson Msongelwa Ndlovu confirmed Msebele’s resignation saluting Msebele as a “true cadre.” Said Ndlovu:

Unfortunately, he did not state his reasons for resigning. The party is shocked at this decision as nobody expected it. While relevant organs will deliberate on this sudden turn of events, our party is poorer without Cde Future Msebele as he is one of the longest-serving members of the party having joined the youth front at revival. His rise to the position of treasurer-general was merited and testimony of his diligence and commitment to the mother party. He is an example of a true cadre.

One of the party’s senior officials members Patrick Ndlovu said the development is sad news to the party since Msebe was “very hardworking.”

ED “Appreciates” Top Cops. Awards Them Data Money More Than The Monthly Salary Of Juniors

memo

By A Correspondent- Junior police officers are heavily disgruntled after a confidential correspondence showing their bosses are getting airtime and data allowances way above their monthly salaries was leaked.

According to a leaked internal memo, assistant commissioners are getting as much as ZW$28 355 for data and airtime alone while junior officers are earning salaries not exceeding ZW$19 000 per month.

Chief superintendents are getting ZW$19 403, according to the memo titled: “Commanders’ airtime and data allowance.”.

The figures, which were reviewed upwards last week, have angered junior officers, some of whom told NewZimbabwe.com off the record they be determined to vote Zanu-PF out of power in 2023.

How is it possible that our bosses can find nothing wrong with awarding themselves such amounts in data and airtime when they fully know we are struggling to survive on the little they are already giving us?” queried one of the officers.

“It does not make sense that they give each other such amounts in airtime and data. You cannot give yourself data and airtime allowance which is far higher than what a junior officer is getting. What do they use this airtime for anyway, when they already have landlines in their offices?”

Unlike soldiers, whose salaries were recently raised to ZW$54 000, nurses and police officers have had to survive on their meagre earnings.

“Junior officers did not vote for Zanu-PF at the March by-elections. Go and check results at most polling stations that were set up near police stations. This will definitely not convince us that our decision was not the best one,” another police officer said.

“They are creating a very dangerous environment by such poor decisions.”

Nyau Dance Gone Wrong

By A Correspondent- A 16 year old Beatrice teenager died after he was allegedly buried alive in a shallow grave during a Nyau dance ritual in Beatrice.

Tafadzwa Mudahondo’s body was retrieved from the shallow grave after he had been in it for 45 minutes.

Two Nyau dancers have since been arrested in connection with the teenager’s death.

Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachii confirmed the incident to NewsDay, saying the police were still investigating the matter.

It is alleged that on May 7, at around 8pm, the deceased in the company of his parents went to Munandi Farm, Beatrice, to attend his grandmother’s memorial service.

At the service, several Nyau dance groups from surrounding farms were taking turns to perform during an all-night vigil.

The deceased was then spotted by his father wearing a Nyau dance outfit and his father reprimanded him, leading to an altercation.

The teenager then allegedly asked Nyau dancers to dig a pit and bury him, and witness him miraculously resurrecting.

The dancers allegedly dug the pit and buried the boy alive.

They then danced around the grave, and collected cash from onlookers who wanted to witness the miracle taking
place.

Villagers then alerted the now deceased’s father. He demanded that his son be retrieved immediately from the shallow grave.

By the time he was retrieved, he was unconscious.

Efforts to resuscitate him were fruitless.

Delish Nguwaya Denies Killing Doug Munatsi Over Pomona USD400mil Deal

The controversial businessman of the Drax covid money scandal, Delish Nguwaya has denied involvement in the murder of Douglas Munetsi, while responding to the ongoing corruption probe over his (Harare City Council) USD400mil Pomona Dump Site Contract.

Delish Nguwaya

Under the contract the council is obliged to pay Nguwaya, who has a history of armed robbery USD40,000 per day (before VAT), what ever amount of rubbish the council provides, so he can generate electricity for himself.

The contract also says, the council cannot in any way for any reason, alter the terms of the agreement for the next 30 years.

Nguwaya won the contract without going to tender, and it sailed through for Nguwaya shortly after the ZIDA Director, Douglas Munatsi was found dead in a bomb attack inside his Harare flat late 2021.

Nguwaya (DN), speaks to Simba Chikanza (SC).

SC: Hello Mkoma Delish.

DN: Yes.

SC: Are you well?

SC: I am sorry for calling you this late. I needed to ask you of the issue council people and MPs are complaining about, on the Pomona deal.

DN: Who is talking? Who is talking?

SC: You are talking with Simba Chikanza at ZimEye mkoma Delish.

DN: Aaah, but you why do you call to ask my things every time?

SC: You’re a public person now, do you not have public contracts now mkoma Delish?

DN: Yes.

SC: So it’s just asking questions, as you know well your name…

DN: Ask.

SC: I just wanted to ask these questions being raised that you are being paid money running into the millions, and they are saying that …

DN: I’m being paid by who?

SC: You’re being paid by the council.

DN: Do you understand what BOOT is?

SC: On that Pomona deal of yours.

DN: I said do you know what BOOT is?

SC: BOOT?

DN: Yes.

SC: I am listening.

DN: Do you know what it means?

SC: You may speak.

DN: Built, Operate, Own And Transfer, isn’t it? The investor is bringing their own money isn’t it, money to build this? Are they wanting anything from government?

SC: So are you saying you don’t want any money from government?

DN: I don’t need any money from government, yes

SC: I mean it from council, isn’t it?

DN: Hello.

SC: I do not mean government, I mean council.

DN: So how does an investor recoup their money after building, can you tell me. You come with your mission and your money so how will you recover your money?
How do you recoup your money?

SC: Did you see their first comment, that, we the landlord, the council….

DN: No, don’t worry about the council people. They are people who are pushing wrong things, who don’t want development. They are being pushed by the opposition. You bring in an investor and within 2 minutes they are taking them to court. Even yourself how do you take that?

SC: Because they are complaining concerning the USD40,000 per day as rental.

DN: There is nothing like that. There’s nothing like that. Let them give you the contract, isn’t it you’re talking to them? Let them give you the contract to give you correct things, not this which is coming from social media by these people.

SC: Then there is this issue that they’re talking about that your deal went through after the death of Doug Munatsi, do you have a conscience ?

DN: Aaaaah, my friend, what you’re talking about I don’t want to hear it, and I don’t have anything to do with that, please don’t ask me these questions with me.

SC: I am only asking mkoma Delish because you know Mr Munatsi didn’t want your deal to go through.

DN: Who told you that?

SC: It’s a public record. That’s a public record.

DN: Aaah, That’s why I don’t want to talk to you that’s why I don’t want to talk to you because after [finishing] to talk to you, because after this you will be going to social media and say this is what I said. Which is wrong.

SC: No. Mkoma Delish I can throw to you the references and you will see not me, not anyone related to me, these are public officials, MPs.

DN: You, don’t ask me that I know nothing about it.

SC: You know, when people are talking it. Yeah?

DROP. CALL AGAIN.

Mkoma Delish, how do you propose to do away with the tag of accusations that you killed or you’re connected to the death, the killing of Doug Munatsi?

DN: Aaaah I will take you to court, what you’re saying.

SC: You will take me to court?

DN: These are serious allegations which you’re raising against me, very serious allegations.

SC: People are talking and people are making those allegations that’s why I am asking; people are making those allegations.

DN: No, this is nonsense. This is nonsense what you’re talking, you hear? Don’t play games with me, and don’t call me again. Okay? Even if you’re in UK….[INAUDIBLE]

Businesses Expose Mnangagwa

The Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) yesterday came out guns blazing, firing broadsides at a series of measures announced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Saturday to calm market jitters in the aftermath of a difficult month.
In the past two weeks, the volatile Zimbabwe dollar has suffered its worst drabbing on the black market, depreciating to US$1:$400 yesterday, after ending 2021 at US$1:$280.

Panicky authorities swung into action at the weekend, cracking down on banks, which have been forbidden to lend, while laying out tougher stock exchange trading measures.

Mnangagwa, who made the announcement, also suspended third party country payments on foreign obligations in a bid to foster market discipline within the foreign payment system, among some of the measures, which the ZNCC said were aggravating an already dire situation.

“The chamber, its executive council and broad membership commend the government, through the Office of the President, for responding to a bloodbath currently taking place in the Zimbabwean economy,” the ZNCC said.

“This is refreshing to note that the man occupying the highest office in the land is hands on. However, the downside is having the Head of State announcing such measures sending a clear signal that politicians are directly involved in economic policymaking, notably monetary policy measures (where a greater degree of central bank independence is required), and in the process rendering the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe as an arm of political decision making,” it said.

“This comes as a result of the government’s slow reaction to economic chaos which triggers such a confrontational approach and in the process, resulting in unintended consequences, that is, worsening the economic turmoil.

“The perennial existence of arbitrage opportunities will continue threatening economic stability, and to solve it, we need to avoid legislating against it, but rather address its primary drivers. This can be achieved through both market liberalisation as well as improving policy quality and policy response to any emerging threats,” the ZNCC added.

In his announcement, Mnangagwa said government was convinced that the recent exchange rate movements were being driven by negative sentiments.

But ZNCC said government’s financing model for on-going programmes and developmental projects were driving the rapid depreciation in the local currency.

Government has been using short-term financing mechanisms to finance the emergency road rehabilitation programme, construction of dams and funding critical programmes.

On foreign currency withdrawal levy, the ZNCC said the policy signifies that the “government is currently seized with revenue collection as opposed to creating an enabling environment for business to bloom.” -Newsday

Blessed Mhlanga Granted Bail

Alpha Media Holdings journalists Blessed Mhlanga and Chengeto Chidi were on 9 May 2022 granted bail on charges of contravening electoral regulations or alternatively disorderly conduct in polling station.

They were each granted $20, 000 bail and ordered to report once every fortnight at Police Law and Order Section. Their trial has been set for 24 May 2022.

Mhlanga and Chidi who appeared at the Chitungwiza Magistrate Courts spent two nights in custody following their arrest on 7 May 2022.

They are accused of contravening Section 25 (a) as read with Section 30 of Statutory Instrument 21/2005 of the Electoral Regulations of 2005 “prohibition of taking photographs”.

The alternative charge is that of disorderly conduct in polling station as defined in Section 89 (2) of the Electoral Act Chapter 2:13.

The State alleges that on 7 May 2022, one or both of them, “acting in common purpose” took photographs or recorded a video within Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, Chitungwiza Ward 7 Council by-elections, polling station tent B, without permission of the Constituency Elections Officer.

Alternatively, Mhlanga and Chidi are accused of disorderly conduct in the immediate vicinity of a polling station by allegedly refusing to comply with an order” given by Superintendent Kufakunesu Matsika not to take pictures or video recording at the polling station.

According to the State, the cellphone and camera which were being used were recovered by the police and can be produced in court as evidence.

Zec Says You Still Can’t Prove Rigging Exists

THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has demanded proof of how it “rigs” elections, describing as “bar talk” allegations that it manipulates the results in favour of the ruling Zanu PF party.
Addressing political parties attending a youth caucus peace-building meeting hosted by 4-H Zimbabwe Foundation in Harare yesterday, Zec spokesperson Jasper Mangwana said: “If you want to say Zec has rigged elections or that something has not been done correctly, then we need substantive evidence.

Meanwhile, Zanu PF youths caused chaos at the event as they tried to stop opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) youths from making contributions during the meeting.

4-H Zimbabwe Foundation director John Muchenje urged youths affiliated to different political parties to promote peace and tolerance in the country.

“We need to continue having similar engagements with these parties, as an organisation. This was just a Harare engagement, but we are planning on similar engagements in other provinces,” Muchenje said, adding that political intolerance and violence have taken centre stage in the country’s electoral processes.

During the March 26 by-election campaign period, a CCC supporter Mboneni Ncube was killed in Kwekwe while attending a rally. There was also violence during the weekend by-elections in Chitungwiza, which resulted in several people being injured.- Newsday

By A Correspondent | MDC T Chairperson, Sen Morgen Komichi has indicated willingness to join a grand coalition with his nemesis Nelson Chamisa.

Speaking at the weekend, Sen Komichi said the stakes are higher for politicians because they have to look into the wishes of the masses.

He said,

As I said, it will be foolhardy for one political party to go it alone, because it doesn’t help, because the main reason why you’re forming a political party is because you want to serve the lives of the people of Zimbabwe, you’re not really pushing for your personal interests- @MKomichi .

Emmerson Mnangagwa Sued

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa and police commissioner general Godwin Matanga have been dragged to the High Court after police impounded a vehicle belonging to human rights defender Melania Chiponda.

Chiponda and her son Mikhail Tatenda Aruberito are the first and second applicants respectively.

Matanga, Mnangagwa and Avondale police officer in charge Trinity Karanda are cited as the respondents in the case (HC2934/22). Information gathered by this publication showed the case will be heard tomorrow.

According to the affidavits seen by this publication, Karanda purchased the vehicle from the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) before auctioning it.

Chiponda bought it for US$7 000.

The process of changing ownership from OPC to Karanda and then eventually Chiponda took forever leading to police impounding the vehicle on May 1, 2022 when Aruberito was taking it for routine maintenance.

This was despite Chiponda and her son having furnished the police with all documents of the transactions, including tax payments and receipts, according to the affidavits.

The police allegedly claimed the vehicle was being impounded because it was not registered.

It was impounded under an operation against pirate taxis and unregistered vehicles.

“That the motor vehicle has not yet obtained new number plates is not our client’s problem.

“The delays were at the instance of the president’s department and Zimra has not yet issued a customs clearance certificate despite all its dues having been paid,” Chiponda submitted.

According to the affidavit, the Avondale police officer in charge also allegedly failed to help the complainants identify the police officer who impounded the vehicle.

There a mounting cases of alleged abuse of office and malpractices ranging from corruption and extortion among serving members of the police.

Some members of the police force and army have also been linked to cases of armed robberies across the country.-standard

Mwaruwari Unhappy With Poor Officiating

Ngezi Platinum Stars coach Benjani Mwaruwari has become the latest coach to publicly criticised the performance of referees in the Castle Lager Premiership.

Mwaruwari feels some decisions in the past three games have cost them points.

Speaking after his team played to a 1-1 draw against Black Rhinos on Saturday, the Ngezi boss believes the penalty that was given to their opponents was too harsh for them.

“Referees are human beings, they make mistakes, and so far, they have made mistakes on three occasions which have cost us points,” the gaffer said.

“As a team, we have to do what we can to improve. We need to correct the mistakes we are committing, but we may correct them then the referees decide to do otherwise.”

Benjani’s thoughts come at a time local match officials have been criticised by several coaches.

In the previous round, Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas and his Highlanders counterpart Mandla Mpofu hit out at the performance of the match officials during their derby encounter at Barbourfields Stadium.

The PSL also implored the ZIFA Referees Committee to seriously look into the poor performances of the officials.

The league expressed its concerns after a controversial call by the referee led to violent scenes during a match between FC Platinum and Highlanders.

The game was later abandoned ten minutes before the full-time whistle.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

May his soul rest in Eternal Peace.

School Head, Wife Boast Of Stealing In Zanu PF Name

Thusanani Oryx

Hwange – Nechilibi High School head and wife identified as Sihauli Nyoni and
Anna Banda popularly known as MaBhanda are terribly looting resources contrary to Zanu PF’s spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa purported sanctions vibe.

The two boast of being well connected to mighty individuals in Zanu PF.

This news crew has it on record that the school was run without a procurement and finance committee for 16 months.

Investigation revealed that decisions that required finance and procurement committee were literally coming from the head’s wife MaBhanda as she sometimes boasts about running the school.

Astonishing findings shows that the two have personalised the girls boarding facility.

Analysts have said the education sector in Zimbabwe is now a caricature of the so-called new dispensation.

“Bedroom politics is running schools across the two rivers Zambezi and Limpopo just as what is happening in government.

“DSIs are mere political figures sleeping in offices when heads sleep on duty.
“Heads’ are running the show the same way Christopher Mutsvangwa is doing in information” they said.

A survey conducted by this news crew showed that all is not well in schools with heads are their wives strategically placed in administrative posts in schools.

“MaBhanda happens to be Matron and cook at the school.

Sources said since the opening of the boarding facility in January 2021 and up to January 2022 no receipting of funds was done, the boarding fees were being paid to MaBhanda and they bought their personal property using these funds.

“Receipting started being done this term.

“Food left by the boarders is taken by her when schools are closed and is stocked in her house, this happened during last year’s school holidays.” they said.

CAPS United suffered their third successive defeat in the Castle Lager Premiership after going down 3-0 to FC Platinum on Saturday.

The Green Machine’s administration issues seem to be spilling over to the performances on the pitch with the team now on its worst run of the season. The Harare giants axed three players for leading a revolt last week over outstanding bonuses.

Walter Musona opened the scoring in the 15th minute after his effort from the free-kick took a deflection to reach the back of the net. Hagizio Magaya then doubled the lead two minutes later before Thembilwenkosi Ngwenya made it three for the hosts before the break.

CAPS United never showed any significant intent to recover and they lost the match 3-0.

At Nyamhunga, Newman Sianchali’s goal gave ZPC Kariba an edge over WhaWha as Kauya Katuruturu won the match 1-0.

Elsewhere, it was a chest full of draws with Black Rhinos and Ngezi Platinum playing to a 1-1 scoreline, Chicken Inn and Herentals settling for a goalless stablemate while there were also no goals in the match between Harare City and Manica Diamonds.

Team Pachedu Exposes Mnangagwa Lies

Tinashe Sambiri|Vibrant social media watchdog Team Pachedu has dismissed Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s speech on the current crisis in the country.

Fearing the implications of the national shutdown, Mr Mnangagwa was forced to address the nation, albeit, hastily, in a bid to soothe dissent and discomfort among the restive population.

Team Pachedu has flatly rejected Mr Mnangagwa’s empty epistle.

“Last night, poorly dressed Mnangagwa was forced to make an unusual, unannounced and unscheduled emergency speech to preempt the stay away.

The demands reached his office.

To preempt the stay away, ED has just introduced a vast array of economic measures.

For instance, if you had USD in the bank when the Zimbabwe Dollar was introduced in January 2009, you will be compensated for the exchange rate loss.

ED wants to silence the public,” said Team Pachedu.

“It’s all systems go! Stay Away!

ED’s speech failed to address the fundamental problems we are facing.

Prices of basic commodities remain very high. The currency and inflation will worsen. Tuition fees remain exorbitant. Salaries/pensions remain very very low.

WHO Slams Formula Milk Companies

Crisis Coalition Applauds Zimbabweans For Standing Up Against Bad Governance

 May 9, 2022

The Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition applauds citizens for sending a loud and clear message to the government following the continued deterioration of socio-economic conditions in the country.

We applaud these seemingly small but effective efforts by students, teachers and the general citizenry towards the #ShutDownZimbabwe Campaign.

This campaign should not in any way be misconstrued as an illegal campaign or an act of banditry as the government and the ruling party, Zanu PF would want to portray.

ShutDownZimbabwe is a legitimate Campaign by citizens who have grown weary of the lies and propaganda of the Zanu PF coup junta who continue to paint a picture of economic prosperity when the conditions of citizens continue to deteriorate by the day.

To be clear, #ShutDownZimbabwe was a call to action against the mis-governance of the country by the coup junta; epitomized by among other things:

·      The unilateral and unjustified rise in the cost of tertiary education, as clearly spelt out by the students under the banner of the Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU).
·      The continued impoverishment of civil servants by a government that does not want to pay a living wage, and continues to play truant in negotiating with its own workers.
·      The monopoly over public transport by a clearly out of depth Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) which has failed especially the urban commuters. The state of the transport sector across the country is a cause for concern, despite the fact that the sector is a key driver of the economy.
·      The continued interference of the coup junta’s ‘runners’ like July Moyo in the affairs of local councils which has all but crippled service delivery. July Moyo and the coup junta hope that citizens will lay the blame on their political opponents, but Zimbabweans are smarter than this kindergarten propaganda and political games.
·      The capture of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) by the coup junta, in the hope of facilitating elections with pre-determined outcomes. ZEC has already been exposed by various citizens’ groups and it is clear that the 2023 elections must not be managed by ZEC in its current form.
·      The continued corruption by government and Zanu PF officials, which has remained an albatross on the national economy. This economy will not be revived under such a corrupt government.
·      The continued theft of the produce of farmers, who toil under strenuous economic conditions to produce maize and tobacco among many other crops, only to be swindled of their produce by government and Zanu PF-aligned makoronyera and dodgy private enterprises.
·      Threats by Zanu PF surrogates such as Taurai Kandishaya against citizens who have questioned the mis-governance of the economy and the country. Such illegal threats have been ignored by a partisan police force.

While not surprising, we have noted with concern that the coup junta does have resources to carry out police parades in armoured vehicles as a way of instilling fear in citizens. Across the country, police and army trucks were seen patrolling the streets of major cities. At almost all tertiary institutions, the police were heavily deployed to ensure that indeed, the #ShutDownZimbabwe would be a success.

We applaud the junta government for scoring this own-goal, in favour of the citizens.

We have also taken note of the mid-night address by the head of the junta government on Saturday 7 May, where a raft of hastily thought, inadequate and inconsistent measures to remedy the economy were announced. We reiterate that these are inadequate to stem the rot in the economy.

We still contend that all we are witnessing are but symptoms of a far-reaching crisis of governance across three facets:

1.     The crisis of governance as state-society relations
2.     The crisis of governance as economic relations
3.     The crisis of governance as public service delivery

We again reiterate that without genuine reforms across all three facets, the country will continue towards a path of underdevelopment. No amount of propaganda can paint a counter picture to the challenges that citizens of Zimbabwe face on a daily basis.

The economy may be prospering for only the few elites who derive profits from state tenders and corruption riddled deals facilitated by the coup junta.

We note with concern the fact that the government continues with its ruthlessness by unleashing armed forces against citizens seeking to hold the government to account.

As the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition, we shall continue to mobilise genuinely patriotic Zimbabweans to ensure that the government engages citizens for genuine reforms towards more inclusive governance. Patriotism is not the preserve of Zanu PF and is a birthright for all of us.

The deployment of armed forces proves the panicky mode on the part of the government but we remain unshaken and we shall continue with our resolve for a democratic and economically developed Zimbabwe.

We urge Zimbabweans to coalesce and unite for the common good.

Aluta Continua!!!
