ZEC Blocks Chamisa From Complaining About Rigging

By- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has proposed for the enactment of laws that punish individuals and organisations that seek to discredit the commission and electoral processes.

Some pressure groups including Team Pachedu accused ZEC of electoral malpractices over the past few years which they allege are meant to create an uneven electoral playing field to give an advantage to the ruling Zanu PF party.

Speaking on ZBC News Current Affairs programme, Face the Nation on Tuesday, ZEC spokesperson, Jasper Mangwana said those making false accusations about the commission and electoral processes must be punished. He said:

We have been asking to be able to register and regulate these political parties because of some of these unfounded allegations that ZEC didn’t do anything, but the moment you become like any other EMB South Africa.

If you raise false issues, for example, they will take like 5 000 votes before you get into an election, we would something like that. This is because if you raise such false allegations, you must prove them.

Meanwhile, Mangwana expressed satisfaction with how the 26 March by-elections were held, saying the absence of rains ensured that no logistical challenges were encountered.

Recalled Chamisa Gweru Mayor Re-elected

By- Former Gweru mayor, Josiah Makombe, has been re-elected councillor a few months after he was recalled by the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T.

Makombe was recalled in December last year for supporting Nelson Chamisa who was the leader of the then MDC Alliance.

The recall meant that Makombe lost his position as both councillor and mayor and the city council vehicle that he was using.

In the by-election for Gweru’s Ward 2 held on Saturday, Makombe, who contested on a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) ticket, garnered 940 votes against ZANU PF’s Tinarwo Elager who got 492 votes.

Mwonzora’s MDC Alliance candidate Patson Chingwaru received a meagre 20 votes.

Makombe was arrested early this year after he allegedly refused to surrender a luxurious US$170 000 council Prado that he was using as mayor before his recall.

Gweru District Development Coordinator (DDC) Ndeya Nyede said Makombe acted outside council regulations by clinging to the municipality vehicle.

“There were thieves at the shops and I was phoned by one of the people and rushed there to investigate, with my sibling and another guy.

“When we got there we heard noises in the grass, and we started throwing stones, but it was dogs. I then shouted ‘sela sela’ but the thieves were robbing Sai Mart Supermarket. Mbeki Accused Of Destroying Zimbabwe

By- A South African political analyst, Moeletsi Mbeki, says South Africa’s ruling party, the ANC, cooperated with Zanu PF in destroying Zimbabwe’s economy resulting in millions of Zimbabweans crossing the Limpopo River in search of scarce jobs.

Mbeki claimed that the two former liberation movements did not want an opposition party founded by civil society to take power in Zimbabwe.

He was speaking during an interview on the television channel eNCA on Tuesday. That was after South African authorities revealed that the rate of unemployment in the neighbouring country had risen to 35.3%. Said, Mbeki:

The ANC collaborated with Zanu PF in effectively destroying the economy of Zimbabwe because they both did not want an opposition party founded by civil society to take power in Zimbabwe.

By destroying the economy of Zimbabwe, a huge influx of people flooded into South Africa looking for jobs and by not controlling the border and effectively allowing the border not to be controlled, it was then very easy for this flood.

And now the consequence of this is that poor people from Zimbabwe flooded into poor areas in South Africa which are the townships and informal settlements and this is the outcome.

Mbeki also accused the FRELIMO-led Mozambique Government of importing heroin from south Asia and re-selling it to South Africa.

He said the South African Government has done nothing to stop the illicit trade which unfortunately is fuelling drug abuse in the country’s townships.

CAF Official Died Of Cardiac Arrest, Not Stampede- Report

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed reports that a Confederation of African Football (CAF) doping control officer who passed away on Tuesday night was beaten by fans until he lost his consciousness.

The Zambian doctor, Joseph Kabungo, was working as a medical officer at the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff between Nigeria and Ghana when he died shortly after the game at the MKO Abiola Stadium.

NFF said Kabungo died of a cardiac arrest. In a statement, NFF said the deceased was found near the dressing room of the Ghanaian team. General Secretary Mohamed Sanusi was quoted as saying:

We are terribly shocked at this sad development. The NFF commiserates with world football body FIFA, the Confederation of African Football, the Football Association of Zambia and the family of Dr Kabungo on his sudden passing. His death pains us very much and we are in a state of deep shock.

However, it is important to state the facts as they are. According to the information from our own medical officer, Dr Onimisi Ozi Salami who was appointed by FIFA as medical officer for the game, Dr Kabungo was found gasping for breath near the dressing room of the Ghanaian team.

I was notified and ordered that he should be rushed to the hospital. He didn’t make it. He died just as they got to the hospital.

I was heading to the dressing room of the Nigerian team when the General Coordinator, Kabore Hubert Bosilong from South Africa called my attention. Dr Kabungo suddenly started gasping for breath.

The FIFA Security Officer for the match, Mr Dixon Adol Okello from Uganda also witnessed the incident.

We tried to resuscitate him there and then, but when this did not appear to be working, we put him in an ambulance and rushed him to Cedar Crest Hospital in Apo, where he gave up the ghost.

It is a very sad incident and one is shocked that some persons have been putting a terrible slant to the whole thing by saying he was beaten up by fans. That is a lie. He died as a result of sudden cardiac arrest.- Goal.com

CCC Dedicates Victory To Late Change Champion Mboneni Ncube

Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia dedicates victory to the late change champion Mboneni Ncube.

29 March 2022

Yellow Revolutionaries in Namibia dedicate the Saturday victory to the late change champion Mboneni Ncube who was butchered in cold blood in Kwekwe just 9 days before the by-elections. As a district, we would like to honour our late social democrat in the yellow revolution for committing himself to the national democratic struggle led by President Advocate Nelson Chamisa. Our message to ZanuPF and their enablers is that no amount of violence, human butchery and intimidation shall deter our people from voting for the change that delivers.

May the dear soul of our revolutionary who died towards by-elections rest in power not forgetting all victims of state sponsored violence as well as prisoners of conscience. Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia salutes the varlour and nerve exhibited by our diligent members who endured ZanuPF engineered terror on those who believe in the yellow colour of hope. The resilience displayed in Gokwe, Kwekwe, Marondera and Masvingo where they unconstitutionally banned our rallies is quite commendable. Thank you citizens for showing a middle finger to ZanuPF, their surrogates as well as their misguided enablers by voting for the two months old Citizens Coalition For Change (CCC).

In addition to that, Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia would like to applaud yellow democrats for choosing to vote for complete change in Bulawayo, Masvingo, Binga ,Harare and Mutare. 19/28 and 75/122 is a great leap forward considering what ZEC, ZanuPF, Police, Mwonzora and Komichi were doing to steal and suffocate the people’s vote. Thank you fellow compatriots for voting and defending the vote against perennial rigging machinery in ZEC sponsored by the clueless Harare regime. We are quite aware that Zanupf bussed people from surrounding areas to boost their votes during the by-elections which remains unconstitutional and criminal. We demand an independent ZEC that works as a non-biased adjudicator to avert another disputed elections.

Despite the shenanigans from the satanic ZanuPF regime , Citizens Coalition For Change managed to win most of the local council and legislators in parliament which is incontrovertible evidence to prove that the people of Zimbabwe know their bonafide leaders. We shall continue to salute the members in the Court of Public Opinion for setting the record straight against masquerades who are used by Satan to derail the freedom train in Zimbabwe. Douglas Togaresei Mwonzora’s Zanupf sponsored Mdc Alliance got humiliating zeros across the breadths and lengths of Zimbabwe after illegally recalling our genuine revolutionary fighters.

We reiterate that ZEC should reform or be disbanded after their dismal failure to run free, fair and credible elections in the motherland. Social democrats witnessed poor ballot papers aimed at disadvantaging the popular and organic people’s President Advocate Nelson Chamisa. This must be resisted with equal measure. We intend to fight peacefully for the comprehensive political, constitutional and electoral reforms to guarantee a smooth transition of political power from Zanu-PF to the change champion in chief who is the only panacea for socio-economic transfiguration in Zimbabwe.

Namibia district shall soldier on supporting the unaccomplished business of the liberation struggle. We yearn to see one man one vote being respected in Zimbabwe. The citizens are longing to support the struggle to its logical conclusion. Our message remains clear that people must register to vote, recruit and radicalize for change. Despite our resounding victory, we remain dedicated and committed to confront satanism for a free Zimbabwe where traditional leaders are not coerced to work for ZanuPF. Citizens at the centre becomes our inspirational campaign vehicle, an effort to replace politicians from the core of governance.

In a nutshell , Citizens in Namibia would like to once again appreciate genuine yellow revolutionaries for giving back the mandate to chosen members of parliament and councillors. Thank you Masvingo, Harare and Bulawayo for giving us a white wash. We shall commit morally, materially and financially especially ahead of the historic general elections in 2023.

In 2023, we target 6 million voters for change. Lets register to vote and defend the vote. Goodluck and thank you once again for yellow. Kudya zvose kudya yellow!

Tuberculosis Treatment

On World TB Day, WHO calls for an urgent investment of resources, support, care and information into the fight against tuberculosis (TB).

Although 66 million lives have been saved since 2000, the COVID-19 pandemic has reversed those gains.

For the first time in over a decade, TB deaths increased in 2020. Ongoing conflicts across Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East have further exacerbated the situation for vulnerable populations.

Global spending on TB diagnostics, treatments and prevention in 2020 were less than half of the global target of US$ 13 billion annually by 2022.

For research and development, an extra US$ 1.1 billion per year is needed. “Urgent investments are needed to develop and expand access to the most innovative services and tools to prevent, detect and treat TB that could save millions of lives each year, narrow inequities and avert huge economic losses,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “These investments offer huge returns for countries and donors, in averted health care costs and increased productivity.”

Investments in TB programmes have demonstrated benefits not just for people with TB but for health systems and pandemic preparedness. Building on lessons learnt from COVID-19 research, there is a need to catalyse investment and action to accelerate the development of new tools, especially new TB vaccines.

Progress towards reaching the 2022 targets set in the UN High Level Meeting political declaration and the WHO Director-General’s Flagship Initiative Find.Treat.All is at risk mainly due to lack of funding. Between 2018–2020, 20 million people were reached with TB treatment.

This is 50% of the 5-year target of 40 million people reached with TB treatment for 2018-2022. During the same period 8.7 million people were provided TB preventive treatment. This is 29% of the target of 30 million for 2018-2022.

The situation is even worse for children and adolescents with TB. In 2020, an estimated 63 % of children and young adolescents below 15 years with TB were not reached with or not officially reported to have accessed life-saving TB diagnosis and treatment services; the proportion was even higher – 72% – for children under 5 years. Almost two thirds of eligible children under 5 did not receive TB preventive treatment and therefore remain at risk of illness.

COVID-19 has had a further negative and disproportionate impact on children and adolescents with TB or at risk, with increased TB transmission in the household, lower care-seeking and access to health services. WHO is sounding the alarm on World TB Day for countries to urgently restore access to TB services, disrupted due to COVID-19 pandemic for all people with TB, especially children and adolescents.

“Children and adolescents with TB are lagging behind adults in access to TB prevention and care”, said Dr Tereza Kasaeva, Director of WHO’s Global TB Programme. “The WHO guidelines issued today are a gamechanger for children and adolescents, helping them get diagnosed and access care sooner, leading to better outcomes and cutting transmission. The priority now is to rapidly expand implementation of the guidance across countries to save young lives and avert suffering”

Updated guidelines for the management of TB in children and adolescents
Updated guidelines for the management of TB in children and adolescents released by WHO today highlight new patient-centred recommendations for diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The most recent recommendations are:

Diagnostic testing has expanded to include non-invasive specimens, such as stools.
Rapid molecular diagnostics are recommended as the initial test for TB diagnosis for children and adolescents.

Children and adolescents who have non-severe forms of drug-susceptible TB are now recommended to be treated for four months instead of six months, as well as TB meningitis, where a six-month regimen is now recommended instead of 12 months. This promotes a patient-centred approach that will reduce the costs of TB care for children, adolescents and their families.
Two of the newest TB medicines to treat drug resistant TB (bedaquiline and delamanid) are now recommended for use in children of all ages, making it possible for children with drug-resistant TB to receive all-oral treatment regimens regardless of their age.
New models of decentralized and integrated TB care are also recommended, which will allow more children and adolescents to access TB care or preventive treatment, closer to where they live.
TB remains one of the world’s deadliest infectious killers. Each day, over 4 100 people lose their lives to TB and close to 30 000 people fall ill with this preventable and curable disease. Ending TB requires concerted action by all sectors. On World TB Day, WHO calls on everyone- individuals, communities, societies, donors and governments to do their part to end TB.

Black Stars Overcome Super Eagles

Ghana advanced to the World Cup finals in Qatar in November with a hard-earned 1-1 road draw against Nigeria, as they qualify through the away goal rule after a 0-0 draw in the first leg.

Ghana took the lead early on after Arsenal’s Thomas Partey fired in a strike from the edge of the box which went through goalkeeper Francis Uzoho in the Nigerian goal. The goalkeeper error gave the away side the lead early on.

Nigeria then took control of the game and equalized after Ademola Lookman was brought down in the Ghana box by Dennis Odoi. The decision went to VAR and William Troost-Ekong made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Nigeria thought they’d taken the lead in the 34th minute but were aggrieved when VAR ruled out Victor Osimhen’s strike for offside.

Nigeria dominated the second half with 60 percent possession and managed nine shots, but only one managed to bring Ghana goalkeeper Joe Wollacott into action.

Ghana held on for five minutes of added time as they advanced to the World Cup finals for the first time since 2014.- The Sporting News

ZEC Gags CCC From Raising Red Election Rigging Flag

Zanu PF Meat Donating Candidate Loses Election To CCC

By -A Zanu PF candidate for Chinhoyi Ward 3, Precious Dadirai Makiwa, lost the Saturday despite killing a cow and donating the meat to residents luring them to vote for her.

Makiwa bought the cow which she slaughtered and invited residents to get free meat, with each resident getting a 2kgs packet of beef.

Residents who spoke to New Zimbabwe confirmed the development, saying there was a stampede as mostly women flocked Makiwa’s family home to get the free meat.

In spite of her “generosity”, Makiwa polled 330 votes against her rival Richard Vhitirinyu, who got 513 standing as a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate.

Vhitirinyu, who was recalled by the MDC-T on 4 November 2020, was declared the duly elected councillor for Chinhoyi Ward 3.

Speaking to New Zimbabwe on Tuesday, Vhitirinyu said the ruling ZANU PF party should understand that people want tangible development rather than freebies. He said:

The electorate is no longer as gullible as before. Yes, Makiwa slaughtered a whole cow whose meat she distributed to many households in the hope they would vote for her.

Through her party, she also donated textbooks, but all this counted for nothing after she lost. People don’t want freebies, they need real transformational change in their lives.

Meanwhile, CCC won five out of the six Local Authority by-elections in Chinhoyi.

In Ward 4, ZANU PF’s Ignatius Zvigadza obtained 718 votes to beat CCC interim district chairman Brighton Mhizha who garnered 569 votes.

ZEC Responds To Saturday Election Rigging Allegations

The electoral management body said that the country should enact laws that punish individuals and organisations that seek to discredit the commission and electoral processes by making unproven allegations.

Some pressure groups including Team Pachedu accused ZEC of electoral malpractices over the past few years which they allege are meant to create an uneven electoral playing field to give an advantage to the ruling Zanu PF party.

Drama As Magistrate, Prosecutor Forces Harare Businessman To Stand Trial In Absence Of Lawyer

By A Correspondent| There was drama in court last Friday after Harare Regional Magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti Guwuriro and State Prosecutor Michael Reza allegedly connived to force Harare businessman George Katsimberis to stand trial without a lawyer.

Katsimberis is accused of fraud in a case in which Pokugara Properties and its owner Kenneth Raydon Sharpe claimed he built a house at the corner of Teviotdale and Whitwell Road without approved architectural plans.

Appearing on behalf of Katsimberis, Charles Warara who stood in for Lewis Uriri applied for a postponement of trial in order for his client to be furnished with particulars he needed to prepare for trial.

“I submit that until such a time the particulars are provided, this matter is not ready for trial,” said Warara.

Reza stood up and vehemently opposed the request swearing that he will not provide the particulars to the accused person.

“I refuse to be ordered by Mr Warara to go and collect public documents which he can go and collect by myself. No one can force me to get those documents, young or old, male or female, dead or alive,” said Reza.

Guwuriro then ordered that the trial would proceed arguing that she could not review a ruling by another magistrate Letwin Rwodzi on a similar application by the accused.

This forced Warara to recuse himself saying he did not have instructions to proceed to trial.

“…I have no instruction to go beyond the application that I have submitted and that I withdraw from the matter,” Warara told the court.

At that juncture, Katsimberis who was now on his own was asked to stand in the dock to plead.

Katsimberis objected to plead saying he needed to consult a lawyer and proceeding with trial was in breach of his right to legal representation of choice

Guwuriro then postponed the trial to 30 March but Katsimberis insisted that his lawyer Lewis Uriri would only be available after the 20th of April but his request was shot down by the magistrate.

Katsimberis is embroiled in a long running legal battle with controversial land baron Ken Sharpe emanating from a botched joint venture deal for the construction of cluster houses at the corner of Teviotdale and Whitwell Road.

As a result, Katsimberis reported Pokugara Properties and City of Harare for malicious damage to property after they connived to destroy a show house he built as part of the joint venture deal.

He has also reported Pokugara and City of Harare for perjury after they lied in a High Court affidavit that he did not submit architectural plans to Mt Pleasant when they were fully aware that the plans were submitted at Clevelend House.

Kamambo Barred From Travelling To Qatar

Suspended ZIFA President Felton Kamambo’s bid to attend the FIFA congress in Doha, Qatar on Thursday hit a snag after Harare magistrate Stanford Mambanje dismissed an application for the release of their passports.

Kamambo and four executive members – Philemon Machana, Stanley Chapeta, Joseph Mamutse and Bryton Malandule – are facing several charges raised by the SRC, and they appeared before the court in February.

The officials were placed on remand and were granted bail.

Through their lawyer Admire Rubaya, they requested that the conditions be relaxed to allow them to travel to Qatar and help in negotiating for the lifting of the suspension.

The sanctions against Zimbabwe will be ratified at Thursday’s congress unless the country meets all the requirements given by the global body.

However, Mambanje dismissed the application saying by relaxing the conditions, the court would be allowing them to act as ZIFA officials, yet they are on suspension.

The Magistrate also indicated that the country would not be prejudiced by their absence at the congress since the State has indicated that it is prepared to face the consequences.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Carlos Queroz Steps Down After Egypt Failure To Qualify For Qatar 2022

Egypt national team coach Carlos Queiroz has left his post after failing to reach the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Pharaohs failed to progress to the finals scheduled for Qatar in November after losing 3-1 on penalties against Senegal on Tuesday. The tie was decided by a shootout after it had ended 1-1 on aggregate.

The defeat saw the Portuguese gaffer forced to step down as his contract with the EFA required him to qualify for the tournament.

“It’s time for me to leave the leadership of Egypt to someone else,” Queiroz said in the post-match press conference, as cited by KingFut.com.

“Today my dream was to get Egypt for the fifth time to me to the World Cup, but it was (Aliou) Cissé who qualified with Senegal.

“The game is over. We, unfortunately, failed to reach the World Cup. It’s all over and there’s not a lot of things to say.”

Queiroz took charge of twenty games during his tenure, winning thirteen and drawing two.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

CAF Official Dies In Stadium Stampede

A CAF official died during the commotion at the Abuja National Stadium after angry Nigerian fans stormed the pitch in protest, following the Super Eagles’ defeat to Ghana in the World Cup qualifiers play off last night.

The two giants played a 1-1 stalemate and Ghana booked a place at the global showpiece in Qatar, through the away goals rule.

After the game, angry Nigerian fans went irate, stormed the pitched and caused damage to stadium property before police fired teargas to disperse them.

During the commotion, a CAF official, Dr. Joseph Kabungo from Zambia, who was on duty as a doping officer, collapsed and died.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), as well as his family, have been informed of the sad development, which will likely invite heavy sanctions on Nigerian football by world governing body Fifa.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

We Will Never Betray Dr Tsvangirai Vision- President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri|Citizens’ Coalition For Change leader President Nelson Chamisa has described the moments he shared with the late iconic founder of the Movement for Democratic Change and former Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Morgan Richard Tsvangirai as special and joyous.

President Chamisa described the Right Honourable Tsvangirai as a great mentor.

“This picture was taken in 2000 at the International Union of Socialist Youth Festival in Stockholm, Sweden.

I miss the fun, love & joyous moments. I deeply miss my old man ‘Mdara Milo’.

The Citizens won’t disappoint! We will complete the journey and deliver real change! THIS TIME,” President Chamisa wrote on Twitter.

About Tuberculosis

“Join Zanu PF”: Mwonzora Advised

Political analysts say MDC Alliance leader Douglas Mwonzora should consider joining ZANU PF if he is to save his political career.

This comes after MDC Alliance lost all the vacant seats it had won in 2018 to the newly formed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and ZANU PF in Saturday’s by-elections

There were 28 parliamentary and over 100 local authority vacant seats that were contested in the 26 March by-elections, with the majority won by CCC.

Political analyst Mkhululi Tshuma told CITE that the MDC built by Morgan Tsvangirai is no more and its current leader, Mwonzora, should join ZANU PF to prolong his political career. Said Tshuma:

There is no hope at all for Mwonzora and his MDC as far as politics is concerned. The man is done.

It’s unfortunate that the iconic MDC with all its derivatives, the party which Morgan Tsvangirai laboured so hard to build, is finished.

The guy played with the hearts and minds of the people hiding behind a dubious Supreme Court ruling.

However, the Supreme Court of public opinion has issued its verdict and it’s not good for Mwonzora.

He is finished and along with him will die the political lives of those who followed him to the grave.

Mwonzora has one choice, to join ZANU PF and be part of the gravy train. From what I have seen with the Khupe U-turn, people are not going to easily forgive him.

He is totally done for now. He just has a small chance in ZANU PF. Let him grab it.

Another political analyst, Vusumuzi Chirwa, also told CITE that the MDC and all its derivatives are now history.

He advised Mwonzora to join ZANU PF and beg to be appointed as Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Afghanistan. Said Chirwa:

Douglas Mwonzora’s political career was intertwined with that of MDC-T when he pressed the MDC-T cum MDC Alliance auto-destruction button, sadly he wasn’t aware of that.

It’s being naive to talk about his political career, instead, we should be reading his political epitaph.

March 26 was the burial day of the politically decomposed stinking bodies of both Mwonzora and his MDC party’s acronyms.

On March 26 the electorate became Douglas Mwonzora’s political undertakers lowering his coffin 600 feet. May his political soul rest in peace.

Now the best option available for the politically dead Douglas Mwonzora is to become a political ghost so he can be appointed a commissioner like Obert Gutu or plead to be appointed an ambassador in Afghanistan.

Speaking during a press conference in Harare on Monday, Mwonzora said he will make a comeback from the electoral loss, saying they got their strategy wrong in the by-elect

OPINION: What Is Wrong With Khupe Joining CCC?

By Martin Stobart| I am happy that MDC-T leader Thokozani Khupe has joined the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).

Those who are opposed to her decision because they don’t trust her are wrong, totally wrong.

Khupe is not rejoining any party, but joining CCC, a new party with no substantive leadership.

Even if Khupe had rejoined, what is wrong with that? She is bringing her supporters to CCC.

There are no permanent enemies in politics. Let us remember that Khupe was second-in command to the late MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai. She is one of the remaining founding members of opposition politics in Zimbabwe.

She is even senior to CCC leader Nelson “Mukomana” Chamisa all the way until the death of Tsvangirai.

Khupe is human enough to object, to protest in any manner that excites her fancy. Left to his own devices, Chamisa would not object to working with Khupe. Khupe was not wrong to go to court to challenge Chamisa.

However, she may have been terribly unwise. Hers was a gut reaction imposed on her by circumstances. Those who are opposed to her because they don’t trust her have to realise one thing that one cannot trust even one’s wedded spouse in this world. Ubulawa ngowakho (you can be betrayed by a confidante). Even Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus in exchange for 30 pieces of silver.

Don’t succumb to passion in politics, please, whether in love or in hatred. It has been stated that Tsvangirai “appointed” Chamisa as his successor while  on his death  bed, through a third party, the leader of another MDC faction for that matter.

True or false, the fact is that Khupe was not there and, therefore, she was not going to buy that story just like that.

Let us analyse politics rationally, please. Notwithstanding the positives and negatives hitherto characterising their relationship, there should be no bad blood between the two.

The person to be not trusted is puppet Douglas Mwonzora.

Clearly his political life is in tatters if not kaput.

Zim Vaccination Campaign Surpasses 5 Million Mark

Zimbabwe has surpassed the five million COVID-19 vaccination mark for the first dose, as government intensifies efforts to reach herd immunity.

77 681 people received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on the 29th of March 2022 alone, bringing the total number of first doses to 5 049 222.

Last week, government launched a vaccination blitz which has seen more people getting vaccinated, with the majority of them being school children from the age of 12, as government moves in to minimise infection rates and the severity of symptoms.

D-Day For Biti’s Assault Case

OPPOSITION politician Tendai Biti will know his fate this Thursday in a case where the Harare lawyer is accused of assaulting a Russian national.

Harare magistrate Vongai Guuriro Muchuchuti confirmed the development.

The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Vice President has been on trial over the matter since 2020.

He denies assaulting Russian national Tatiana Aleshina.

Magistrate Muchuchuti has been accused of bias by Biti who even approached the High Court seeking to have her and prosecutor Michael Reza removed from the case.

High Court judge, Justice Tawanda Chitapi, ruled that there was no evidence that the magistrate and prosecutor were biased.

Justice Chitapi added that higher courts were also “very reluctant” to intervene in matters that were pending before the lower courts.

“If every decision by a presiding officer that one party disagreed with could go to a higher court on review or appeal while the matter was still in progress, then delays would be intolerable.

“In rare cases where someone’s rights could be seriously infringed otherwise, a higher court could intervene, but this is very rare,” Chitapi ruled.

Meanwhile, the row between Biti and Aleshina continues on other fronts with the two currently suing each other at the High Court.

Aleshina sued Biti for defamation while the CCC vice president in turn sued her for causing his “wrongful arrest and detention”.

Both cases are still pending.

Zanu PF Will Resort To Its Old Tactics In 2023

By A Correspondent| Zimbabwe should brace for a violent 2023 election, political players and analysts have said.

Zimbabwe is set to have a harmonised election before July 2023 with the electorate heading to the polls to select presidential, members of parliament and council representatives.

However, political players said judging from the skirmishes that was experienced during the run up to the just ended by-elections, the country will witness a spike in political violence and murders in 2023.

Former University of Johannesburg post doctoral candidate and renowned political analyst Pedzisai Ruhanya said the ruling party will resort to its old tactics of killing and maiming opponents.

“Zanu PF was beaten by a barely two months baby- the Citizens for Coalition Change. They know that with a political playing field that is free and fair; people will not vote for them. Let’s brace for a violent rigged election in 2023,” he said.

Ideas Party of Democracy leader Herbert Chamuka who sees his party gaining ground in 2023 said it was folly and foolish for the Chamisa led CCC to take party in the by-elections as it has exposed them to Zanu PF.

“IDP did not take part in this election because we knew that we were going to give Zanu PF ammunition and intelligence of knowing their limitations. Now they know that they are going to lose election and they will resort to violence,” he said.

Chamuka said his party was going far away in terms of planning and strategies.

“There are many lawyers in CCC and they lack the technical expertise that is why they are not going to rule. The party should have technocrats,” he said.

Zimbabwe is one of the problem child of SADC churning out disputed elections since its independence in 1980.

Since the formation of a vibrant opposition in 1999, Zanu PF has resorted to violence and election rigging to retain power.

Top Gvt Officials To Sign Perfomance Contracts

NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING

Top Government officials will on Thursday sign Performance Contracts at Harare International Conference Centre at the Rainbow Towers.

In a statement, Secretary to Service Commissions, Jonathan Wutawunashe, said 84 Chief Directors and Directors will sign the contracts.

The statement read:

Government continues to raise the bar on performance management in Ministries and Departments by requiring senior officials to sign Performance Contracts in order to strengthen service delivery to citizens.

At the ceremony, 84 Chief Directors and Directors are scheduled to sign contracts as a representative sample on behalf of a total population of 463 Chief Directors and Directors, the rest of whom will sign their contracts in their Ministries and Departments.

This event signals the cascading to all levels of the high-performance Work Culture which Government in the Second Republic is championing, and which was demonstrated in February at a ceremony graced by the presence of His Excellency President E.D. Mnangagwa, where Ministers, Permanent Secretaries of Government as well as CEOs of parastatals and leaders of Local Government Authorities signed their own Performance Contracts.

In the true spirit of the principle, ‘What Gets Measured Gets Done’, the contracts will outline specific strategic objectives, outputs and outcomes targeted for the year 2022 for Chief Directors and Directors.

The performance of Chief Directors and Directors will be assessed on a quarterly basis, together with that of Permanent Secretaries with the final evaluation conducted annually.

Members of the media are hereby invited to cover the event, which starts at 9:30 am on Thursday 31 March 2022 at the HICC in the main auditorium.

RBZ Has Become Rogue And Unnecessary

Former finance minister Tendai Biti says government must shut down the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) arguing it has become a rogue and unnecessary institution.

Speaking at a Zimbabwe Debt Indaba hosted by the Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (ZIMCODD) in Harare, Biti said Zimbabwe has no need for an institution like the RBZ. He said government should replace it with a currency board.

He blamed RBZ governor John Mangudya for the country’s spiraling debt which he claimed was ballooning as a result of government’s purchases of weapons from “questionable states” for use against the country’s citizens.

“The elephant in the room is the RBZ and under John Panonetsa Mangudya, it has become rogue institution. In my respectful opinion the country does not actually need a reserve bank. Let us have a currency board,” Biti said.

“All the RBZ does is dabble in quasi-fiscal activities which cost you and I. last years we have had two debt assumptions. The country’s domestic debt has grown from US$1,5 billion in 2015 to US$3,5 billion in December of 2021. That is not good enough, that is a rogue central bank,” he said.

“If they are incapable of repenting then we must do something. If they are incapable of Damascus moments then we must do something. And doing something is drastic. The country does not need a central bank; it needs a currency board.”

Biti has never hidden his disdain for Mangudya, and Finance minister Mthuli Ncube who he blames regularly for mismanaging the economy.

He has on countless occasions called for the re-introduction of the US dollar, which he says stabilised the economy during the era of the Government of National Unity.

In a recent interview with NewZimbabwe.com’s New Zim TV, Biti said Zimbabwe’s situation could only be saved by re-introduction of the US dollar with the Zimbabwe dollar being maintained for change purposes.

Biti said this move will reduce the RBZ’s continued influence in quasi-fiscal activities and reduce chances of the governor printing money as was the case under former governor Gideon Gono.

“RBZ An Unnecessary Rogue Institution”: Biti

By A Correspondent- Former finance minister Tendai Biti says government must shut down the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) arguing it has become a rogue and unnecessary institution.

RBZ Foreign Currency Auction System Creating Fresh Debt Crisis

Zimbabwe’s foreign currency system could be creating fresh debts for Zimbabweans who could be forced to settle them in the future, former Finance minister Tendai Biti warned yesterday.

Biti, whose tenure as Finance minister between 2009 and 2013 was marked by double digit growth rates and economic stability, claimed that the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) had no capacity to settle weekly allotments of up to US$40 million being raised by companies on the platform.

He said Zimbabweans should brace for a day when authorities turn to Parliament seeking approval for government to assume such debts.

In the past, government has assumed debts owed by parastatals, a development that has courted public outrage.

Speaking during a Zimbabwe public debt indaba organised by Zimcodd, Biti said some debts assumed by government were “dubious” because they did not have parliamentary approval.

“The Dutch auction system is becoming the conduit of corruption,” Biti said.

“Various individuals are raising multiple transactions, various shelf companies are being presented at the system and proceed to bid. People are becoming super rich from doing nothing. If someone has relatives (in high offices) then they will stamp fictitious invoices for them and they get money,” he claimed.

However, the RBZ has been releasing statements with details of beneficiaries of the foreign currency auction system to update the public about developments on the official foreign currency markets.

The RBZ has also penalised banks and other firms for transgressions on the auction system.

“The RBZ cannot afford an outlay  of US$40 million a week,” Biti claimed.

“One day soon, they (the public) are going to be foisted with yet another Debt Assumption Bill,” he said.

In 2015, there was an outcry over the RBZ Debt Assumption Bill, which was passed by the National Assembly and later saw government assuming a US$1,3 billion debt accrued under the stewardship of former central bank chief, Gideon Gono.

Biti said the central bank was moving away from its core business and the country was using debt assumption for corruption purposes.

Last week, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) warned the RBZ against engaging in quasi fiscal activities.

“Debt assumption is  a cover-up for  corruption, it is abusing Parliament, it is unconstitutional and covering up illegalities. These are real fights  people must engage in and there is need to legalise debt assumption in  Zimbabwe,” Biti said

The IMF said Zimbabwe remained in debt distress, with large external arrears to official creditors although it applauded Zimbabwe’s commitment to re-engage external creditors, including resuming token payments and preparing a debt resolution strategy.

“Directors recommended further monetary tightening, given the persistently high inflation. In this context, they emphasised the need to increase the operational independence of the central bank, discontinue its quasi-fiscal operations and improve its co-ordination with the fiscal authorities,” IMF noted.

“The authorities have developed a debt resolution strategy and started token payments to creditors in a bid to make progress on re-engagement. Directors commended the authorities for their swift response to the COVID-19 pandemic and for stronger efforts to address macroeconomic imbalances while prioritising social support. Noting that substantial challenges remain, including extreme poverty and longstanding structural constraints, they urged the authorities to implement the necessary reforms that would foster higher, more inclusive growth and pave way for re-engagement with the international community,” IMF added.

“Directors noted that Zimbabwe remains in debt distress, with large external arrears to official creditors. They welcomed the authorities’ commitment to re-engage external creditors, including by resuming token payments and preparing a debt resolution strategy. Directors encouraged further efforts to enhance debt management and transparency.”

Free Meat Fails To Secure Votes For Zanu PF Stalwart

By A Correspondent- In an interesting development, a Zanu-PF candidate for Chinhoyi Ward Three bought a cow which she slaughtered and treated residents to free meat but still lost the election held last Saturday.

The candidate, Precious Dadirai Makiwa has since become a subject for radicle in the town.

The ward fall vacant after Richard Vhitirinyu was recalled by the MDC-T on November 4, 2020.

In a bid to enhance her chances of winning the perennially opposition-held ward, Makiwa bought a cow which she slaughtered and invited residents to get free meat. And they came in their numbers, with each walking away with a 2kgs packet of beef.

Residents who spoke to NewZimbabwe.com, confirmed there was a stampede as mostly women flocked Makiwa’s family home from where they emerged with wide smiles.

They all pledged to return the favour with their vote, but once alone in the polling booths, very few honoured their promise as evidenced by the election outcome.

Makiwa was confident she would win the ward elections after dishing out large chunks of meat. The people promised their vote in return for beef allocations,” a resident, Raymond Dangirwa, told NewZimbabwe.com.

The outcome of the poll shocked Makiwa after she managed to 330 votes against her rival Vhitirinyu, who amassed 513 standing as a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate.

An ecstatic Vhitirinyu told NewZimbabwe.com this Tuesday Zanu-PF must start to appreciate that dishing out freebies was a thing of the past.

“The electorate is nolonger as gullible as before. Yes, Makiwa slaughtered a whole cow whose meat she distributed to many households in the hope they would vote for her. Through her party, she also donated textbooks, but all this counted for nothing after she lost. People don’t want freebies, they need real transformational change to their lives,” Vhitirinyu said

Makiwa was unreachable by the time of publishing.

Meanwhile, CCC bagged five out of the six Local Authority by elections in Chinhoyi.

The only upset was in Ward 4 where the CCC interim district chairman Brighton Mhizha lost to Zanu-PF’s Ignatius Zvigadza after polling 569 to 718.-NewZim

100 Trafficked Zimbos Stranded In Oman

At least 100 Zimbabweans are stranded in Oman after being trafficked to the Middle East country on false job promises, a top government official has said.

Secretary for Home Affairs, Aaron Nhepera told a media briefing in Harare yesterday that 18 cases had been reported so far.

This followed reports that several Zimbabwean women were trapped in the Middle East after going there in search of jobs as domestic workers under the Kafala visa sponsorship in Oman and other countries.

Reports showed that the Kafala system of employment ties domestic workers to employers who facilitate their travel to Oman and ensure that they do not move to other jobs before the end of their contracts.

The female domestic workers are also allegedly sexually abused and treated as slaves,
while their passports are withheld to stop them from escaping.

“Our prosecution pillar which involves the police and the courts were handling 18 cases. But we do know that there could be more people that have not reported, but by way of estimation, we think we could be having as many as 100 people in Oman currently,” Nhepera said.

He said government was in the process of engaging the Oman government over the issue.

He, however, could not disclose the exact date when the 18 victims, whose cases were reported, would be repatriated to Zimbabwe.

“We are just starting our engagement with the government of Oman. We are doing that through the Foreign Affairs ministry which happens to be part of our committee. The other resolution we have made is to dispatch an investigation committee to Oman as soon as possible so that they can talk to the 18 victims.

“As soon as we have engaged the Oman government to deliberate on these issues, we will start repatriating our people home. I cannot give you a date. It depends on the progress we make through the engagements.”

Nhepera said the 18 victims were still stranded at their workplaces despite reporting their ordeals.

“They are in their respective workplaces. What they have done is to communicate with their relatives here about their situation and through their relatives, we have come to know that there are such people who are there and need our assistance.

Nhepera admitted that government was to blame for the trafficking of its citizens.

“The reason why our people are in this situation is because of poverty, not having good jobs and not being well settled in their houses…others are going there because they would have heard of good job opportunities without necessarily scrutinising these places. We urge Zimbabweans to scrutinise job offers from abroad so that they cannot fall victim to human trafficking. We also urge citizens to consult our law enforcement agents with regards to information about foreign countries that would have offered jobs to them,” he said.

Harare Businessman Approaches High Court To Stop Trial Kick-Off The Absence Of Legal Counsel

By A Correspondent| Harare Businessman George Katsimberis has filed an urgent High Court application to stop the commencement of trial in the absence of a legal counsel of his choice.

Katsimberis’ lawyer Lewis Uriri told the court that he will only be available after 20 April but Harare Magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti Guwuriro proceeded to set the 30th of March as the day to commence trial in a case in which he is accused of fraud.

Warara had previously applied to have his client furnished with papers that he wanted in order to prepare for trial but Harare Magistrate Letwin Rwodzi dismissed the application.

Now Katsimberis wants the High Court to order the state to provide him with requested papers before trial kicks off.

In his urgent chamber application, Katsimberis cites Rwodzi, Muchuchuti Guwuriro, State Prosecutor Michael Reza and the Prosecutor General as first, second, third and fourth respondents respectively.

He argues that Guwuriro, who presided over his case on 25 March 2022 in the absence of Rwodzi wanted to force him to plead for the second time in order to kick off trial, to which he refused as his lawyer was not around due to other commitments.

“The proceedings of the 25th March 2022 in the Regional Magistrates Court with 1st Respondent presiding and 3rd Respondent prosecuting, show that the Court and the Prosecutor are intent on sacrificing accused’s right to Counsel of his choice for certain but unpronounced conviniences or interests,” reads part of Katsimberis’ application.

He accuses Guwuriro of proceeding to set 30 March 2022 for the commencement of trial despite having been earlier advised that his legal counsel of choice would not be available.

“Having been earlier advised that Applicant’s legal practitioner would not be available and well knowing that the legal practitioner was indeed not available, the court refused the application for a postponement for no plausible reason,” noted Katsimberis.

“Further, well knowing that Applicant’s Counsel would not be available on any day earlier than the 20th April 2022, 1st Respondent at the instance of 3rd Respondent went on to postpone the matter to the 30th March 2022,” he added.

Katsimberis says Guwuriro and Reza’s actions confirm a determination to deny him his constitutional right to legal representation by Counsel of his choice.

Woman Arrested For “Denouncing” Mnangagwa

By Jane Mlambo| Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) recently rescued a 48 year-old Maria Mapfumo from Shurugwi after securing her release from custody on bail after she had been arrested and charged for allegedly undermining authority of or insulting President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The state claimed that Mapfumo used derogatory language to insult Mnangagwa during an altercation with Bernard Dangi a ZANU PF Councillor.

It is further alleged that Mapfumo stated that Dangi and Mnangagwa are murderers who can connive to kill her husband.

Mapfumo’s husband is a teacher and had been accused by Dangi of abdicating his teaching duties and engaging in political activities.

Mane Outshines Salah As Senegal Book World Cup Ticket

A remarkable match in Senegal saw what essentially was a replay of the Africa Cup of Nations final.

Much as in that game, a penalty shootout was needed to separate the two sides, with Senegal once again victorious from 12 yards.

An own goal from Saliou Ciss, four minutes in, was enough for Egypt to win the first leg, and he was once again involved four minutes into this game. He won a free kick on the left which was lifted into the area. A disastrous defensive header saw the ball find Senegal’s Boulaye Dia, center of the goal, who poked it into the back of the net.

From then on, the game was a cagey, scrappy affair. Fouls and injuries broke up much of the game, with Egyptian players regularly needing treatment. The visitors were forced into two substitutions in the first half. Rare moments of quality lit up the game, but it quickly fell into a rhythm of Senegal trying to attack and Egypt looking to counter. This continued for much of normal time.

Senegal racked up the shot count, but failed to create great chances, while Zizo (Ahmed Sayed) came off the bench for Egypt and had two chances to score, but failed to convert either of them. Mohamed Salah had a quiet game while Sadio Mane, regularly dropping deeper from a No. 10 position, was more influential as the game wore on.

Egypt were kept in the game by Mohammed El Shenawy, who made numerous saves to keep the hosts out in the first half of extra time, with the standout being a dive across his line to prevent a certain goal from Ismaila Sarr. The second half of extra time had less tempo, as players suffered from cramps and the Egyptians looked happy to settle for penalties, despite the result last time.

So, after being inseparable over 210 minutes of football, they were separated from 12 yards. In a remarkable turn of events, the first four penalties were all failures: Koulibaly hit the bar, before Salah blazed his attempt over. Ciss’s penalty was saved, before Zizo’s penalty rolled wide of the upright. Ismaila Sarr finally managed to find the back of the net, with El Shenawy diving the wrong way. El Solia levelled with an exceptional finish, off the bar.

Senegal had the advantage, with Mostafa Mohamed’s penalty saved by Mendy, after Bamba Dieng converted. It Sadio Mane scored, Senegal would win the shootout. He did just that, smashing the ball into the back of the net. Flares were lit in the stands as the fans rushed the pitch, celebrating with the players, who will be traveling to Qatar in November. For the Egyptian side, who offered very little throughout the game, it was a replay of the heartbreak they suffered just over a month ago.- The Sporting News

Ghana’s Black Stars Through To World Cup Finals

Suspended By Mnangagwa’s Family, Kamambo Blocked from Flying Out

SUSPENDED ZIFA executives, Felton Kamambo and Phillemon Machana, yesterday lost their bid to travel to Qatar to attend a FIFA meeting after the court refused to release their passports.
Kamambo and Machana had approached the court requesting temporary release of their passports and permission to travel to Qatar for a FIFA meeting scheduled for March 31.

They wanted the court to lift a bail condition barring them from communicating with FIFA saying they still had a chance to avert the FIFA impending ban once they attend the meeting.

Harare regional magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje dismissed the application saying allowing them to travel amounts to allowing them to act as ZIFA officials when they were on suspension.

“The applicants want to travel to Doha for a FIFA conference. Their visit will clothe them with ZIFA jackets,” said Mr Mambanje.

“Aside the issue of suspending bail conditions, the recourse being sought is akin to allowing them to act as substantive members. It will therefore be ironic to say that the accused who are on remand for unlawfully continuing operating as ZIFA executive members, yet they are on suspension, should be allowed to continue acting under the auspices ZIFA.

“Clearly the court is being asked to temporarily withdraw the charges or temporarily remove them from remand.

“This is so because the court is asked to authorise conduct which forms the charge on which the accused are on remand,” ruled the court.

Mr Mambanje said the issue of suspension cannot be dealt through a legal framework.
In an application prepared by lawyer Mr Admire Mr Rubaya, Kamambo and Machana said Zimbabwe was put on the agenda on the March 31 Qatar meeting and the impending ban has adverse consequences to the Football fraternity.

They pointed out that the main reason for Kamambo and Machana’s travel was to go and convince FIFA to understand issues at hand and find a lasting solution.

Mr Rubaya told the court that Kamambo and Machana have since been invited to attend the meeting by FIFA and carries a chance to avert the ban.

“Our application is for the court to suspend that the accused should not communicate with ZIFA and allow them to travel to Qatar a day after tomorrow. We need temporary release of their passports.

“Why we need them to travel is because the nation was hit by a suspension pending an impending ban by FIFA.

“Zimbabwe has been put on agenda and the consequences that come after the ban are adverse,” he said.

Mr Rubaya said the intentions of Kamambo and Mamutse’s travel were not aimed at destroying the future of Zimbabwean football, but to find a lasting solution to the issues troubling the nation’s football.

“As long as they still remain on remand they should be treated as innocent. They should be allowed to serve the football,” he said.

Mr Rubaya said they wrote to the Prosecutor General seeking consent to have some bail conditions suspended.

Kamambo and Machana were barred from acting on behalf of ZIFA as bail conditions on a criminal matter where SRC is the complainant.

“The accused are saying we are prepared to be accompanied by who else from the stakeholders if they fear that they would go and say then ban them. We are putting State into confidence that they can be accompanied by other stakeholders, so that there will be one voice.

“If they are not allowed to travel, then the FIFA ban is imminent,” he said.

Kamambo and Machana said the ban will not affect them only, but also young and promising youngsters whose careers would be crippled.

They pointed out that the ban would affect direct foreign investment from FIFA, which would also stall infrastructural development related to football.

Kamambo and Machana accused SRC of taking their dispute to court describing it as a law fare. The State led by Mr Kennedy Madekutsikwa opposed to the application saying the two should have approached the Administrative Court.

Mr Madekutsikwa said: “The accused are being charged of acting as ZIFA executive at a time when the accused have been suspended from such duties. They are legally represented and believe that it has been proper to instigate proceedings that ensures that the dispute is resolved before the prayer is lodged with this court.

“What makes the accused application problematic is that it has an effect of clothing the court as administrative court. As we speak, the accused are effectively on suspension and if allowed by court to proceed to go and act as ZIFA executives that decision would have the effect of reinstating the accused as ZIFA executive, which is believed is not within the purview of this court,” he said.

The State said it was yet to hear of the outcome of an appeal made by Kamambo and Machana to the Administrative Court.

Mr Madekutsikwa said SRC has since set a restructuring committe that would serve in the function of ZIFA.

VOTER APATHY or SILLY APARTHEID?

The just-ended by-elections were marred by voter apathy, with only 35% of eligible voters casting their ballots, statistics released by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) have revealed.
The by-elections were held on Saturday to fill 28 National Assembly and 122 local authority seats that were triggered by deaths, diplomatic postings and recalls.

Opposition political parties attributed the poor turnout to government’s lack of political will to implement electoral reforms to guarantee free and fair polls.

Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa told journalists on Monday that citizens felt that they had little to gain by participating in the by-elections.

National Constitutional Assembly leader Lovemore Madhuku said citizens were mostly concerned with making decisions that influenced change of the government that governed them as opposed to participating in by-elections.

“In an election where the results will not influence change of the government, there will be low voter turnout. Citizens are passive in the electoral process. They are active participants who know that a by-election held a few months before the general elections was not necessary. They know that the by-election won’t do much to address their problems. We will still have the same economic hardships in 2023, but people will come in their numbers to vote because they know that their vote is key in deciding the top leadership that can transform their lives. The more people realise that the polls are not changing anything, the less they turn out to vote,” Madhuku said.

Political analysts said the low voter turnout was partly caused by the harsh socio-economic and political environment in the country. -Newsday

Global Facts About TB

We’ve All Failed Marry Chiwenga

Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s estranged wife Marry Mubaiwa has been admitted at a private hospital in Harare where her hand could be amputated as her condition had worsened.
This was revealed yesterday in court by Mubaiwa’s lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa who told magistrate Lazini Ncube that her client was admitted on Tuesday last week.

“Mubaiwa was diagnosed with a severe syndrome which is chronic and the doctors are currently attending to her. She might have her hand amputated, but the doctor said she would be amputated after she got better,” Mtetwa said.

She asked the court to remand her from her hospital bed or to arrange for an ambulance to bring her to court for remand.

A medical report by specialist trauma and orthopaedic surgeon John Nyahunzvi stated that Mubaiwa was on five weeks post-revision surgery for a right humerus shaft refracture.

“Her current condition is critical (life threatening) and has necessitated hospitalisation and stabilisation with a plan for emergent right high above elbow amputation as soon a she is deemed medically stable. She has severe sepsis secondary to deep infection after revision surgery to fix a re-fracture of the right humerus shaft against a background of chronic sepsis in her forearm. Careful in-patient clinical management of her current state is required and a multi-disciplinary team is in attendance,” Nyahunzvi said.

Mtetwa requested the State to go to hospital for her remand hearing.

“We can arrange an ambulance to come to court and you will look at her at the parking. So we request that if necessary the court might go to the hospital,” she said.

The State represented by Tendai Shonhai, Tafara Chirambira and Michael Reza did not oppose that Mubaiwa should be remanded from her hospital bed.

“We have noted the application, and we do not oppose the proposal for us to go and remand her at the hospital. However, we need to be furnished with particulars of where the accused person is currently admitted,” Shonhai said.

“The law allows us to apply for a warrant of arrests and we are supposed to apply for a warrant of arrest because she is not in court. We are amenable to go to the hospital even though the law allows us to apply for warrant of arrest,” Shonhai said.

The judgment in a case where Mubaiwa is accused of marriage fraud was expected to be delivered yesterday and the court had to postpone the matter.

She had made several court applications, saying she was not fit to stand trial, but they were dismissed by the courts.

At the end of the State case, Ncube dismissed her application, saying she should answer certain questions which were not exhausted by the evidence of witnesses.

But Mtetwa told the court that she could not be put to her defence because of her poor health. -Newsday

Mavaza: CCC Endorses Mnangagwa’s Fairness In Elections

BY DR MASIMBA MAVAZA | In 2018 CCC passing under the name MDC Alliance then, lost the general election, it went into overdrive with slander and vitrol.

Dr Masimba Mavaza

More than that, its handlers and foreign sponsors joined the frenzied orgy of intemperate insult and scorn directed at Zanu PF, the government, the civil service, the Electoral Supervisory Commission under ZEC The abiding impression given by Chamisa’s opposition was and is that when his party loses an electoral context, the electoral system is both unfair and rigged; that every state organ who has a contrary opinion is captured.
There is a grave concern about a man and his party who have no respect for state organs; a leader and a party who are worse than sore loosers and who wants the world to believe that when they loose the whole state system must suffer denigration. How can such a man and such a party be entrusted to run a country and civil servants that he will not think twice of demeaning?

Following the outcome of the last week ‘s by-elections in the country, Chamisa is as quite as a stone. More than 48 hours have passed and we have not heard him thank the hard-working personnel who have been involved in the by-elections . Neither he nor his handlers have the decency to think that where they have directed (albeit unfaily) condemnation in the past they must niw direct complements. It is called maturity and civility.

We have not stopped hearing that Zanu PF lost and Chamisa won. What a fallacy!
This was an election that Zanu Pf went into with no risk of losing whatsoever. The only thing that would have happened to Zanu PF going into the context was to win. It won ….. seats which belonged to the opposition from the last general elections.
The seats which were being contested were opposion seats that had been vacant because of the perennial debacle and in their chaotic ranks. Plainly Zanu Pf could not have lost what it was not theirs.
As a matter of fact Zanu PF goes into the next general election still holding its majority. Even more importantly, it has not lost a single seat to the opposition. So this over-the-top celebration of an empty victory is motivated either by crude ignorance or by lack of ambition. How can an ambitous party celebrate when it has not gained any ground on the ruling party?
There is another explanation for these awkward CCC celebrations. The explanation is that the CCC viewed the elections to be a context betwen them and Douglas Mwonzora’s party. In that perspective they were victorious as they managed to wrestle the seats from that party. However, where does it leave CCC in relation to power?
The fight against Mwonzora’s party and the over-exuberent celebrations reveals that CCC is not even interested to be a government in waiting. It has reached its actualisation by its triumph over the opposition.
There is a very important victory here and this victory was not for CCC. It was for democracy. We have known this victory over a long time and hoped Chamisa would finally acknowledged it. The by-elections once again and in a striking manner demonstrated that in Zimbabwe anyone can win the elections; that no one interferes with elections. Will Mr Chamisa acknowledge that?
It is so sad that when the election outcome does not go Chamisa’s way there is allegedly no democracy in Zimbabwe. If it goes his way then the people have spoken.
While CCC is celebrating the seats which were always in their pockets we must critically look at the figures and see who is supposed to be celebrating.
The Bi-elections were to replace mostly the recalled CCC members who were at that time called MDC A. The battle for ZANU PF was beyond enemy lines. It was in the home ground for the CCC. So CCC has won its usual strongholds that is the Urban areas winning 19 out of 28 constituencies while Zanu PF has 9 seats to make 9/28. The numbers did not reflect the celebrations.
The best scenario to explain this is that, you have Ten loaves of bread. They are yours. Then i come and fight you for your loves. If you lose even one to me it means you have lost. So ZANU PF went in the Arena and snatched nine seats of which two were previously under MDC A now called CCC. It is a wishful thinking for the CCC to jump up and down.
Effectively CCC has been telling us that Zimbabwe had always had free and fair elections. It is therefore imperative that the CCC should acknowledge that elections in Zimbabwe are always free and fair. The other point we must critically look at is that,in the nine constituencies won by Zanu PF, the cumulative number of votes is 76 355 while in the same 9 constituencies won by Zanu PF, the CCC polled 24 307 giving a difference of *52 228* votes.
This speaks volumes of what is in-store for the CCC come 2023. Remember that these figures are from only nine constituencies*

The CCC won 19 constituencies with a cumulative vote number of 105 492 while Zanu PF in those 19 constituencies attained 51 864 giving a difference of *53 628* votes. The statistics are from 19 constituencies*
In all the constituencies including CCC strongholds all votes casted for CCC are *129 799* (winning 19 constituencies) while is Zanu PF with a few stronghold constituencies polled *128 399* (winning 9 constituencies)
Zanu PF has done extremely well in a by election where majority of the constituencies belonged to the opposition in 2018. To that end the opposition did not even protest about electoral reforms. It has shown that elections in Zimbabwe has always been fair.

If we look at the overall expected voter for the 28 constituencies the figure come to 700 000. Total votes cast comes to 258,198 which is 37% of the expected vote. Such a high level of apathy is good statistics to a political planner.
ZANU PF now needs to work on the huge supporters who abstained.

It is a fact that Zimbabwe has never failed in any election. This has been shown by the absence of any complain by CCC and his party.

2023 Polls Will Be Bloody: Political Analysts

Zimbabwe should brace for a violent 2023 election, political players and analysts have said.

Bill Antonio Belgium Trial: Father, Agent Clash Over Modalities

Bill Antonio’s scheduled trial stint in Belgium is now in doubt following a disagreement between the player’s father and the agent.

The Dynamos youngster was invited at Pro League side KV Mechelen for assessment from the 1st of April to the 30th.

However, he is yet to get the visa and other necessary documentation for the trip.

According to Antonio’s father, Nowell, there have been differences between him and the agent, Placcedes Jefferson, who is understood to be handling the teenager’s affairs.

“The people in Belgium called and said they wanted Bill for trials to see if he has the qualities that they would want,” Nowell revealed to the Herald.

“I feel this is a very good opportunity for Bill and as a father I can only encourage him to remain focused on his game, put in a lot of effort and give it a try because it’s all about his career.

” But the issue now is that the people who are supposed to be fronting this are not operating in good faith and there is danger that the boy could run into problems in the future.

“As a father I am duty–bound to avoid that at all costs because I came a long way in supporting my son’s education and his fledgling football career.

“I want Bill to be successful in his football career. I also want him to have a good education to widen career options.”

The father added:” The documentation was being done behind my back. Apparently they manipulated Bill’s mother to get the papers signed.

“So I have asked to see the documentation pertaining to the contracts that he has signed with Prince Edward Academy, the agent and Dynamos, but they are not being availed.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Tuberculosis: The Global Facts

Chris Rock Apologises | FULL TEXT

Chris Rock’s statement

“As a comedian it can be difficult to understand which lines are to be crossed and which ones aren’t. Last night I crossed a line that I shouldn’t have and paid the enormous price of my reputation as a renown comedian.

Comedy is never about poking fun at or making lite of people with major ordeals happening in their lives. Comedy is about using real life circumstances to create laughter and bring light to an otherwise dark world. With that said, I sincerely apologize to my friends Jada Pinkett-Smith, #WillSmith, and the rest of the Smith family for the disrespect and disregard I displayed which was unfortunately broadcast for the world to see. I hope that, with time, forgiveness can come of this situation and we can all be better, more considerate people in the end.” – #ChrisRock

CCC Winning Councilor Hits Ground Running

By A Correspondent| Re-elected Harare Ward 16 Councilor Denford Ngadziore has hit the ground running, promising Ashdown Park and Bloomingdale residents to expect running water on their taps as replacement of underground pipes is already underway.

Ngadziore who was re-elected on a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) ticket, shared pictures on Twitter while touring the main water line where City of Harare is replacing underground pipes.

“This morning l was at main water line Cnr Rosedene and Hre Drive. The City has completed the new underground pipe replacement as a permanent solution to the affected Ashdown Park and Bloomingdale Residents. Affected residents should expect to have water soon,” said Ngadziore.

Ngadziore was recalled by MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora following a Supreme Court ruling which declared the MDC Alliance Gweru congress null and void.

Zanu PF Is A Regional Cancer: Mmusi Maimane

By Jane Mlambo| Former South Africa opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane has urged regional leaders to confront the problems in Zimbabwe which he said had become a cancer that needs cure.

Maimane who now leads One Africa movement said he is ready to cure adding the that cancer does not require pain killers but removing the tumor.

“Zanu PF is the regional cancer draining South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. It’s costing us. We cure a cancer by removing the tumor. By going through chemotherapy. Panado does not cure cancer. Some people are chasing cosmetic solutions. I am going directly for the cancer,” said Maimane.

He added that the problems in Zimbabwe were a result of Zanu PF which he said should be removed from power in order to address the challenges facing the once bread-basket of Africa.

“The oppression in Zimbabwe directly affects SA. We pay the cost in health facilities being strained, in labour disputes and it has sown seeds of animosity. That is why it must fall,” said Maimane.

Zanu Pf Stalwarts Vote For President Chamisa

By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF activists in Bulawayo have accused some party members of voting for the Nelson Chamisa’s Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) which won in all the eight local authority wards and two parliamentary seats that were up for grabs in Saturday’s by-elections.

The accusations came after it emerged that votes polled did not match the party members who turned up for voting.

Prior to the by-elections, some party members had expressed concern that there was a ibhola egangani/bhora musango (protest vote) plot not to vote for most of the Bulawayo Zanu-PF candidates whom members accused of rigging primary elections in order to represent the party.

The leaders were irked by the low voter turnout at the weekend by-elections and equated it to bhora musango.

In a WhatsApp discussion, Zanu-PF activists expressed disappointment over poor results in the city, whereby at one polling station 15 people voted for the ruling party when more than 200 party members were seen in voting queues.

“This group is composed of sellouts, it must be disbanded. They are not Zanu-PF members. You are all sellouts, just get out of here,” said one infuriated Zanu-PF member.

Another one said: “Comrades, we were walloped. How can Zanu-PF have 15 out of 125 votes? How can Zanu-PF have 75 votes out of a hundred something? How many people did you see who came to that place? The statistics of those that voted for Zanu-PF were less than 200, but the predominant number of people who were voting was known as Zanu-PF members. What are you trying to tell me? I was there until the close of voting. You people who voted know what you did.”

The party members demanded that all WhatsApp groups be dissolved because they had people who do not  belong to Zanu-PF.

Zanu-PF Bulawayo spokesperson Achirbold Chiponda, however, said they were pleased that countrywide, Zanu-PF managed to snatch some local authority and National Assembly seats from the opposition.

“The character of Zanu-PF as a party is such that whether we are in or out of these few seats we will still work tirelessly to improve the lives of the masses that we represent as the ruling party,” Chiponda said.

He expressed dismay over the high voter apathy in Bulawayo.

“We appeal to the residents of Bulawayo to continue to work with us as Zanu-PF for a better Bulawayo,” he said.

New Executor For Eddies Pfugari Estate

By A Correspondent| High Court judge, Justice Owen Tagu has ruled against an appointed executor of the late Edward Nyanyiwa of Eddies Pfugari’s estate, while ordering the statutory five percent charge against the 15 percent earlier charged.

In her argument before the court, Henrietta Nyanyiwa accused the appointed Executor Clive Mandizvidza of being interested in enriching himself at the expense of the rightful beneficiaries.

She also told the court that there was never a proper valuation of the shares held by the deceased in the various companies he had interests in as envisaged by the Estate Duty Act [Chapter 23:03] and that he wrongfully and unreasonably approved an executor’s fee of 15 percent of the estate’s gross assets as opposed to the Statutory 5 percent.

“That the Executor (Mandizvidza) who is more interested in enriching himself at the expense and to the prejudice of the beneficiaries would have failed to perform his duties and must be removed from office,” said Henrietta Nyanyiwa.

Following the death of Edward Nyanyiwa, Mandizvidza was appointed the executor of the estate on March 21, 2019.

This did not go down well with Henrietta Nyanyiwa who on 25 August 20200 wrote two letters of complaint to Master of the High Court.

Mandizvidza filed her responses with the Master of the High Court and Henrietta’s complaints were dismissed for lack of substance prompting her to approach the High Court.

In her High Court application, Henrietta Nyanyiwa sought determination on whether the interim distribution account for Edward Nyanyiwa’s estate should be set aside.

She also sought to have the fees charged by Mandizvidza set aside while she wanted her removed as executor of the late Edward Nyanyiwa’s estate.

In his ruling, High Court judge, Justice Owen Tagu ruled that;

“Her grievances can be summarized as follows, that the value of the late Nyanyiwa’s shareholding in various companies had not been properly determined in that the value of the shares in such companies is naturally affected by the companies’ liabilities and these were not taken into account in coming up with the values that the executor sought to rely on. Further that the second respondent had charged a total of fifteen percent as his fees when such percentage was not due to him. According to the applicant the second respondent’s conduct constituted overcharging and that the account be set aside.”

Justice Tagu further ruled that the questions that arise from the background was that whether there is any legal basis for the Court to interfere with the decision made by the Master of the High Court concerning the valuation of the late Nyanyiwa’s shares in the mentioned companies, whether the fees charged by the first respondent should be set aside and the executor should be removed.

Justice Tagu said Mandizvidza did not dispute that the 15 percent fee was not fair.

Tagu then ordered that the decision to confirm Mandizvidza’s interim liquidation and distribution accounts in the estate of the late Edward Nyanyiwa under DR Number 471/19 be set aside.

“The interim liquidation and distribution accounts filed by the second respondent in the estate of the late Edward Nyanyiwa under DR 471/19 be and are hereby set aside,” he ruled.

He also removed Mandizvidza from being the executor of the estate. He also ordered the executor of that estate to charge 5 percent gross of estate value.

Rural Teachers Plead With Mthuli Over Salaries

teachers artuz rural teachers

Teachers under the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) have demanded a $8,4 billion total salary bill for 141 000 educators per month from the Government.

ARTUZ wrote a letter dated March 21 to the Minister of Finance and Economic  Development making the demands.

ARTUZ Secretary General Robson Chere said the government has not yet fulfilled its promises on the agreed course of fees payment to teachers’ children.

He said it is sad to note that the above mentioned  benefits were supposed to be effective from 1 March 2022 and the fruits of this initiative are still yet to be  celebrated.

In relation to the above matter, we are kindly making a request for funds from the treasury for 141 000 teachers for $60, 000 each, kindly advise to use SSB as a method of payment to deposit in individual teachers accounts,” he said.

This came following massive teachers strikes that took place when the schools opened for the first term in which the educators cited incapacitation.

The government had to promise civil servants 20% salary increase on the Zimbabwe dollar component backdated to January 1, US$100 per month in hard currency effective March 1 in addition to the US$75 they were getting.

It also promised to pay fees for three teacher’s biological children.

By A Correspondent- Former MDC-T deputy president Thokozani Khupe believes the outcome of the 26 March by-elections is an indication that the newly-formed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party led by Nelson Chamisa will win in the upcoming 2023 general elections and form the next government.

CCC won 19 out of the 28 National Assembly seats and the majority of council seats in the recently-held by-elections.

However, almost all of the parliamentary seats are in urban areas, the opposition’s strongholds and ZANU PF reclaimed two seats that were won by the opposition in 2018.

Khupe’s spokesperson Ntandoyenkosi Ndlovu on Monday told NewsDay that the by-elections will lay a firm foundation for an opposition victory in 2023. Ndlovu said:

[H]er supporters turned out in their numbers to vote for CCC and the citizens rejected ZANU PF and Mwonzora.

As Khupe said last week, the outcome of these by-elections will lay a firm foundation for an overwhelming victory in 2023.

It is clear that CCC will form the next government of Zimbabwe and Chamisa will be the next president of the country.

Just before the by-elections, Khupe announced that she was supporting CCC candidates but the party’s Bulawayo structures have refused to work with her.

CCC party members in Bulawayo say Khupe’s previous association with ZANU PF leader President Emmerson Mnangagwa has made it difficult for them to trust her.

When Khupe was sacked by the MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora, she launched the “#beat the pot campaign, No vote for Mwonzora, No vote for ZANU PF”.

Zanu PF Speaks On By-election Defeat

By- Zanu PF has spoken out on the Saturday by-election, which it lost to the newly-formed Citizens Coalition for Change.

CCC won 19 out of the 28 National Assembly seats that were contested in the by-elections.

Speaking during a press conference at the party headquarters on Monday, Zanu PF Spokesman Christopher Mutsvangwa said the ruling party was happy with the by-election results after it won two seats that had been won by the MDC Alliance in 2018.
Said Mutsvangwa:
We did very well, the party did very well, candidates who wrestled seats from the opposition, I can’t say the same on the opposition.
Most of the seats belonged to the opposition, but with their fractured nature, Zanu PF managed to snatch two seats.

We thank ZEC (Zimbabwe Electoral Commission) for providing a fair hunting ground and unfair criticism of ZEC chairperson Priscilla Chigumba can now die down.
We see 2023 as an opportunity when the fortunes of Zanu PF will be sustained as the message resonates well with the people.
The Saturday by-elections was a warning that their days of urban electorate supremacy are over.
Zanu PF won Epworth and Mutasa South, two seats that had been won by the MDC Alliance in the 2018 harmonised elections.
The ruling party also retained its seats in Gokwe Central, Chivi South, Mberengwa South, Murehwa South, Marondera East, Mwenezi East and Tsholotsho North.

The MDC Alliance, now under the leadership of Douglas Mwonzora, failed to win a single seat.

Chamisa Celebrates Victory Despite Zanu PF Rigging

BY- Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa, has said his party won in the just ended by-elections despite rigging by the ruling Zanu PF.

Chamisa claims that the ruling party works in connivance with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to manipulate election results.

CCC won the majority of National Assembly and local government seats that fell vacant after the death or recalls of members.

Out of the 28 Parliamentary seats, CCC won 19 and 77 council seats out of the 121 seats available, while the ruling party won the rest.

Chamisa made the remarks at a press conference held in Harare this Monday. He said the election outcome was a “strong signal” from the citizenry. He said the electorate knows what it wants. Watch the video below for more.

Chamisa Kwekwe Central MP Challenges Mnangagwa, Gold Barons

By- Newly-elected Kwekwe Central Member of Parliament, Judith Tobaiwa (35), has vowed to push for changes required to ensure that the majority poor benefit from the city’s gold instead of ruling Zanu PF elites.

Tobaiwa polled got 6 639 votes in weekend by-elections to win the seat for the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), defeating Zanu PF’s local gold mining magnate John Mapurazi (2 883) and two others.

Speaking to journalists after the elections, Tobaiwa said gone are the days when Zanu PF elites controlled the often deadly gold mining sector in the Midland’s second-largest city. She said:

Mining is the backbone of Kwekwe Central and most of our youths are engaged in artisanal mining which is often dangerous due to its associated risks and also violence in the same pits.

As a legislator, I want to make sure that everyone benefits from the mineral resources in Kwekwe.

What we are currently seeing in Kwekwe is very saddening; only those who are benefitting from the mineral resource are aligned to Zanu PF.

Looking back at the election campaign, Tobaiwa said the road to victory was rough adding that she was exposed to violence as the ruling party sensed that she was going to defeat Mapurazi.

She, however, said the experience was water under the bridge as she is now focused on improving people’s livelihoods in the constituency.

Kwekwe Central fell vacant following the death in July 2020 of opposition National Patriotic Front (NPF) parliamentarian Masango Matambanadzo.

CCC Fundraising Now Too Sporadic, Coltart Called To The Fixing Task

By A Correspondent | Fundraising programs for the nation’s newly born yellow-kid, the Citizens Coalition For Change party are now too uncoordinated that they need to be brought back into order, a debate on the Twitter Spaces portal, has concluded.

The CCC has proven ability to rise from anywhere, at any time, and quickly become a force not just for a reckoning, but one to take over a nation. The just ended bi elections have proven this capacity. But one major weakness set to slow down progress- is spinelessness when it comes to long term decision making in for instance, the entity’s treasury department.

It all started 2 years ago in 2020 when a UK based scammer, who was making false claims that she is Nelson Chamisa’s sister, Yeukai Mamoyo, had teamed up with MP Custon Matewu’s father, Jaison to publicly disrupt a Harare online fund raising session for the CCC Trio, that Coltart ended up passing orders that Matewu’s diversion of party funds to his private accounts must be stopped. At that time Matewu working with the fake-Chamisa sister, had instructed diasporans to deposit party funds into his personal company project, promising he would after that transfer the money to Harare.

Jaison Matewu, like in his earlier years when he was once removed by Tsvangirai in 2008 over the same reasons, continued to cause chaos in Chamisa party, working with the fake Chamisa sister, whose boyfriend is a top Mwonzora aide.

The fake Chamisa sister has since joined a cluster of counter intelligence agents who daily study and manipulate organisational weaknesses in the CCC.

Fast forward to 2022, the party launched Spaces discussions but was beaten in speed by a group of state agents who just last year March attempted to get three of Chamisa’s aides slapped with false charges of sexual assault. The group is also the one that in 2021 was supporting and sponsoring the ferret who planned to kill Human Rights Watch Director, Dewa Mavhinga, Mr Elvis Mugari.

The spaces platforms gave the ferrets a good opportunity to regroup and appear sympathetic to Chamisa. But more chaos has since emerged over accountability as money raised cannot be fully traced. To this issue, citizen Jessica Geraldine said:

Mnangagwa Violating Liberation Principles- President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri|Citizens’ Coalition For Change leader President Nelson Chamisa says he is satisfied with the results of the March 26 by-elections although there is a lot of work to do in terms of pushing for reforms.

Addressing a media briefing in Harare on Monday, President Chamisa called for wholesale reforms within the electoral system.

President Chamisa’s CCC clinched the majority of local government and house of assembly seats in the Saturday by-elections.

President Chamisa said: ” We know that Zanu PF is abusing traditional leaders across the country. Intimidation of voters is rampant in rural areas.

However, I am happy with our performance despite the setbacks.

Zanu PF is violating the principles of the liberation struggle.”
