S_exual Harassment Claims For S.A Professor At Harvard University

By A Correspondent- Sexual harassment claims have been levelled against a South African professor at Harvard University.

In a statement, the university said that three students lodged complaints against Professor John Comaroff.

According to Harvard’s website, South-African born Comaroff, 77, is a professor of African and African American studies and anthropology at the institution and an honorary professor of anthropology at the University of Cape Town.

Harvard University said on Thursday that it had conducted “thorough reviews” and found that Comaroff engaged in verbal conduct that violated the sexual and gender-based harassment policy and the professional conduct policy of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS).

“Sanctions for that conduct were issued by the FAS on 20 January 2022 and included, among other things, unpaid administrative leave for the spring semester and limiting Professor Comaroff’s teaching and advising activities through at least the 2022/23 academic year,” the statement read.

News24 was not able to reach Comaroff for comment at the time of publication.

The Harvard Crismon reported that Comaroff denied the allegations of misconduct, saying the University had not accorded him a “fair process”.

According to the Washington Post, the three students launched a lawsuit against the university on Tuesday last week. They claimed the university ignored complaints about the alleged sexual harassment.

They alleged that Comaroff used his position to “exploit aspiring scholars” by kissing and groping students without their consent. He also allegedly made unwelcome sexual advances to students and threatened to sabotage students’ careers if they complained, the report stated.

In response to the lawsuit, the university disputed the allegations.

“Harvard University disputes the allegations of the lawsuit brought by Sanford Heisler Sharp, LLP, which are in no way a fair or accurate representation of the thoughtful steps taken by the university in response to concerns that were brought forward, the thorough reviews conducted, and the results of those reviews,” it said.

Following disciplinary action against Comaroff, a letter was signed by almost 40 faculty members who questioned the results of the misconduct investigation, the Harvard Crimson reported. In the letter Comaroff was reportedly described as “an excellent colleague, advisor and committed university citizen”.

Since the lawsuit was launched, almost all the signatories have reportedly retracted their support.

ZANU PF Youths Launch Emmerson Mnangagwa Cup

Banket – A ten-team national sports tournament is set to be launched soon by the ZANU PF youth league.

The Sports tournament which will be known as the Emmerson Mnangagwa Youth Cup Tournament will see the ruling party’s youths battle out in both male and female soccer, netball and volleyball disciplines.

ZANU PF Mashonaland West Provincial Youth League Chairperson, Tapiwa Masenda revealed about the tournament whilst addressing the party’s youth inter-district meeting at Banket Sports Club on Sunday.

“Our President (Emerson Mnangagwa) has donated sporting kits to us as we are going to launch a sports tournament which will be called ED Youth Cup. We got uniforms from the President for netball, volleyball, and both men’s and women’s soccer. The President has urged our party to embark on talent identification and development. The tournament will start from the district level up to the provincial tournament where we will pick the best teams that will participate in the national Ed Youth Cup tournament. This is meant to bring all young people together to foster unity as we peacefully campaign for our President so that he wins the 2023 elections resoundingly,” he said.

Masenda said all provinces have already received the sports kits.He admitted that the current voter registration exercise has seen few young people being registered as voters as most of them don’t have national identity documents.

The politician said plans are underway for mobile national identity documents rollout programme so that young people contribute to the 5 million votes for the ruling party.

“A lot of young people I know you don’t have national identity documents. We cannot win the election by our set target if we as young people don’t get registered. We have been assured that plans have been made that you get IDs through the mobile identity documents exercise just similar to the mobile voter registration blitz.”

He revealed that the ruling party’s provincial youth league is reprimanding the youths to desist from social media abuse by posting party internal squabbles on various social media platforms“Desist from the habit of using social media for personal scores. The opposition will take this up against us. If you have any grievances, don’t take them to social media but use the proper channels, I will deal with anyone posting sensitive party issues on social media,” he said.

Masenda said the youth league will demand to know how the economy is doing by putting various government leaders to account including demanding knowledge of how funds distributed from the government through various channels such as community development fund (CDF) and devolution funds are being used.

He also called for the youth league involvement in the selection and monitoring of the Presidential Scholarship program.

“The scholarship is from our President. It is ours so we need to know who is benefitting from our youth league. The youths are the first preferences for the scholarship. We want to monitor the exercise so that those going out to study abroad don’t become sell-outs,” he added.

Khupe Softens Up On Joining Chamisa

Former MDC-T vice president Thokozani Khupe said that her party will soon make an announcement on who the party is urging MDC-T supporters to vote for in the 26 March by-elections.

Khupe’s party did not field any candidates in the upcoming polls saying they did not want to divide the opposition vote and give an advantage to Zanu PF.

Last week, Khupe launched her party slogan, denouncing both Mwonzora and Zanu PF.

Speaking to NewsDay, Khupe’s spokesperson Ntando Ndlovu said that it is crucial for opposition political parties to speak with one voice in demanding electoral reforms. Said Ndlovu:

We deliberately did not field candidates in the upcoming by-elections because we took a principled position not to split the opposition votes.

We are currently running a campaign that we launched a week ago under the theme #Beat the pot; No Vote for Mwonzora; No Vote for ZANU PF.

The president of the party, Khupe will soon make an announcement on who we are urging MDC-T supporters to vote for in the by-elections because the party is conscious that a complete boycott of the polls will give an advantage to Zanu PF.

Khupe, Nomvula Mguni, Mildred Dube and Ntandoyenkosi Ndhlovu were recently fired from the MDC-T after she (Khupe) announced a split of the opposition party during a press conference in Bulawayo.

During the press conference, Khupe also claimed that MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora had left the party after he announced that the opposition party will contest the 26 March by-elections as the MDC Alliance.

“State Of The Voters Roll Fluid”: ZEC Dismisses Rigging Allegations

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission would like to dismiss allegations of rigging purportedly exposed by an analysis of a national voters’ roll requested by a political party as pure malice bent on diminishing the public’s confidence on the voters’ roll and the country’s electoral processes.

The so-called analyses being posted on social media platforms are clearly targeted at confusing the electorate and tarnishing the image of the Commission.

The Commission wishes to make it clear that any voters’ roll that is requested in terms ofsection21(3) of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13) is a valid document as at the date of issue and is subject to subsequent addition of any new registrants or removal of voters because of death or disqualification.

Please note that voter registration and the maintenance of the voters’ roll is a continuous process in terms of section 17A of the Electoral Act Thus, the removal of deceased voters, duplicates and other malcontents is a continuous exercise necessary for the update of the voters roll in an effort to keep it accurate, complete and current.

The state of the voters roll is always very fluid save for cases where rt is deemed dosed for purposes of an election in terms of sections 26A and 121A of the Electoral Act, as the case may be, and in this instance, for wards and constituencies being contested on the 26 March 2022 by-elections whose voters’ rolls have already been closed and compiled.

The public should also know that the Commission has come across a few cases of several different people using the same national identity cards and sometimes, the same physical addresses to register as voters. Investigations have revealed that there are some people who engage in the illegal practice of giving their identity documents to relatives for use.

In some cases, the identity documents are stolen and used without the owner’s knowledge. The Commission’s Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) does not pock such anomalies since the fingerprints of the registrants are different because they are indeed different people sharing the same identity cards.

However, when the Commission identifies such irregularities, it removes the entries from the voters’ roll and puts them on an exclusion list pending regularisation of the identities by the Civil Registry.

Regarding allegations of too many transfers, the public is hereby informed that the Electoral Law permits any voter who has become resident in another constituency or ward to transfer their registration to that constituency or ward upon production of their proof of identity and requisite residence documents.

It is incumbent upon registered voters resident in that constituency or ward to object to the new registration if they feel that that is not the case. ZEC has no authority to deny a voter his or her right to transfer.

The Commission would like to state that the allocation of polling stations to registrants is purely determined by their proofs of residence presented to voter registration officers. Voter registration officers are not duty-bound to go and physically check whether

the details on the affidavits and other proofs of residence presented to them by prospective registrants are correct or not. It behoves on all eligible voters and other stakeholders to act in good faith in relation to all electoral processes and the public is reminded that an affidavit is a sworn statement and If one presents fake information on affidavits used as proof of residence, they commit an offence of perjury.

ZEC is not secretly changing boundaries as alleged by the so-called analysts and no boundary delimitation has started. Delimitation is a public exercise involving stakeholder consultations and it shall only commence after the conclusion of the national population census. The allegations are therefore unfounded and meant only to tarnish the image of the Commission and to mislead stakeholders.

The Electorate is advised that the Commission, in line with the provisions of the law, wiN publish a notice of its intention to commence the delimitation exercise and the public will be informed of this development in due course.

Letter to the President of Zimbabwe. Death penalty is imperatively needed

Dear His Excellency President Emerson Mnangagwa

Mr. President I write this letter as a concerned citizen of Zimbabwe. Our country is no longer peaceful  at all.

There are now more criminals than before. Our people are being robbed with knives, guns and other weapons. Our citizens are now living in fear of criminals.

There is now no more fear of the law among our citizens. Now our people live in fear of criminals instead of criminals fearing the people.

Mr President I ask you to implement death penalty for capital offenders. These evil people who are robbing, raping and killing innocent people must be put to death.

Our country does not need them. Even Chikurubi Maximum Prison does not need them. Resources can’t be wasted feeding them. They must get capital punishment.

If you look at the Arab countries you can see that death penalty will act as a greater deterrent to violent crime.

Mr President our country has become evil. With a lot of people now practicing witchcraft. I ask you to direct the parliament of Zimbabwe to repeal Suppression of Witchcraft Act.

As you are aware majority of our people have turned to witchcraft as result of envy and jealousy. We can’t be a society that does not allow our people to speak out against these sadists practices.

There is power in words those who practice such shenanigans must be exposed and condemned. But this law, Suppression of Witchcraft Act which was enacted during colonial times is preventing and suppressing  our citizens from speaking out.

Mr President your authority and position can create much good in our Zimbabwean society.

We  want to be a society with less crime and where our citizens live in peace. I kindly ask you to excercise the authority God has given you in countering crime and protecting peace loving Zimbabweans.

Thank you so much. May God bless you.

Yours Faithfully,

Collen Makumbirofa

God Is For Everyone, Jonathan Moyo Tells ED

Exiled former Zanu PF politburo member and minister Jonathan Moyo has made startling claims President Emmerson Mnangagwa has assembled a hit squad to track him down and other ex-party loyalists to assassinate them.

Moyo, once fiercely opposed to Mnangagwa’s spirited manoeuvres to succeed then President Robert Mugabe, fled to Kenya when the now incumbent muscled his way to power November 2017.

However, distance has not shut him from being an influential factor capable of influencing the trajectory of Zimbabwean politics as he has used his Twitter handle to reveal some goings on within both government and Zanu PF.

Moyo has also emerged as a strong supporter of Nelson Chamisa’s opposition CCC, which poses a significant threat to unseat Mnangagwa in crucial elections next year.

In a fresh twit Monday, Moyo claimed Mnangagwa is out to eliminate him.

“Dear Emmerson,” he wrote, “I have impeccable information that you’ve put together a joint hit squad with elements from CIO Counter Intelligence and MID to go after me and other exiled Cdes; you have targeted since your Nov 2017 Army coup. All I can say is that God is for everyone!”

Teachers Accuse Unions Of Betrayal

By A Correspondent- Some teachers who have not been taking classes since last week citing incapacitation, have accused the Zimbabwe Teachers Union (ZIMTA) and the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) of betraying them.

One aggrieved teacher who spoke to NewsDay on Monday castigated the unions for allegedly conniving with the government to suspend them.

Said the teacher:

ZIMTA and PTUZ are selling out but we are not going to go back to work as we are still incapacitated.

However, ZIMTA secretary-general Goodwill Taderera denied selling out the teachers. He said:

I wouldn’t call it selling out. We are just working on what was discussed with the National Joint Negotiating Committee (NJNC).

There is a circular that ZIMTA put out urging teachers to go back to work.

PTUZ president Takavafira Zhou yesterday also denied the allegations that his union has let down teachers. Zhou said:

I have a track record to protect. To whom will I even sell the struggle when the government does not want to see my face in any meeting as they accuse me of supporting the regime change agenda?

I cannot salivate at ZANU PF predatory leaders, thuggery and thievery.

The majority of teachers and headmasters at public schools initially rejected the Government’s 20% salary increment to all civil servants and a US$100 allowance to be converted from the local currency salary component.

They vowed not to return to work until the Government restored their pre-October 2018 salary of US$540.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Evelyn Ndlovu responded by suspending all the striking teachers, but the move has been challenged in court

Zim Woman Nabbed Over Heroin In India

By A Correspondent- A Zimbabwean woman believed to be in her forties was arrested at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai, India, on Saturday night for smuggling heroin.

The airport customs officials arrested the woman for trying to smuggle heroin and methamphetamine worth close to ₹60 crores to India.

The woman has been identified as Harare resident Rosie Diamon, a cancer patient believed to be from a poor background.

She had arrived from Harare to Mumbai via Kigali on Saturday by RwandAir flight WB-500.

An official from the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), Mumbai, confirmed the arrest. Said the official:

The examination of the baggage resulted in the recovery of 7,006 grams of yellowish powder tested as “Heroin” and 1,480 grams white crystal granules tested to contain a combination of Heroin and ‘Methamp’ (short form of Methamphetamine). The said drugs were subsequently seized.

The official added that the seized drugs collectively weighed 8.486kg and are worth approximately ₹59,40,20,000 in the illicit market.

The drugs were reportedly concealed inside the trolley bag, in the executive bag and two file folders.

During questioning, the Zimbabwean woman informed investigators that the drugs were handed over to her in Harare and the same were to be delivered in New Delhi.

She said after reaching Mumbai, she was supposed to travel to New Delhi by train a few days later.

This was to ensure minimum risk of travelling with contraband to the capital.

An AUI officer said the suspect was offered free medical treatment in India in lieu of trafficking drugs.

She now faces a sentence of 20 years.

The Zimbabwean woman claimed that she was told that the person who was supposed to receive the delivery of the contraband would himself contact her on reaching Delhi.

Customs officers were reportedly scanning her phone and were trying to find out details of her associates.

The suspect has been to India before. She visited the country in 2019 but she did not smuggle any contraband at the time.

Diamon was charged under relevant sections of the Customs Act for smuggling drugs.

She appeared in court and was remanded in judicial custody to 25 February.

After her RT-PCR test, she would be lodged in jail.

Kit Kat Chocolate Recalls Products Laced With Pieces Of Glass

Kit Kat

By A Correspondent- Authorities in Mozambique are collecting Kit Kat chocolate products in that country following reports that they could be laced with pieces of glass.

Mozambique’s National Inspection of Economic Activities (INAE) launched the campaign to collect the products after the food and beverage company Nestle South Africa announced the voluntary withdrawal of some of its products from the market.

The products that are being withdrawn in connection with the potential presence of pieces of glass are Kit Kat Mini Bag Milk 32 per 200 grams and Kit Kat Two Finger Milk 36 per 20 grams, with expiry dates of 30 September and October 31, 2022, respectively.

On a positive note, as of Friday last week, Mozambican inspection teams had not found any of the products suspected of containing pieces of glass in official markets. INAE inspector general Rita Freitas said:

According to Nestlé, the product was not exported to Mozambique, but our fear is that the chocolates have entered illegally and are already on the market, so we urge people to report them if they find them for sale.

In a press release, Nestle said that to date, no complaints or injuries have been reported. It said:

We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution having discovered the presence of small pieces of glass during our quality and safety checks.

Nestle said the voluntary recall is limited to products with the production codes listed below only. No other sizes and variants of KitKat products (dark chocolate and white chocolate) are affected by the recall. Nestle has recalled the products listed below:

Nestlé KitKat 2 Finger Milk 36x20g UTZ MB with production codes “13590177″‚ “13600177″‚ “13620177″‚ “13630177″‚ “13640177″‚ “13650177″‚ “20010177″‚ “20100177″‚ “20110177″‚ “20100177″‚ and “20110177″ visible on the back of the packaging; and Mini Bag Milk 32x200g UTZ with production codes “20120177″‚ “20010177″‚ “20020177″‚ “20030177″‚ “20080177″‚ “13620177″‚ “13600177″‚ and “13610177″ visible on the back of the packaging.

On 2 February, Nestle SA announced the voluntary recall of the chocolate bars listed above due to the possibility that they may contain pieces of glass.

Apostle Chiwenga, Apostle Newman: Chamisa Taking Over Presidency In Yellow Power

Talent Chiwenga

Below is the video of the street preacher Talent Chiwenga changing his own prophecy. In the compilation is Chiwenga’s original video between 2014 and 2016, and the last one comprises his statements around and after the 2018 elections which he had earlier on announced saying would make Chamisa President of Zimbabwe.

Tinashe Sambiri
A west African prophet has delivered an oracle saying ZANU PF President Emerson Mnangagwa faces imminent death.

The prophet, Apostle Newman, said Mnangagwa is mislead by false prophets. He added saying the future of Zimbabwe is in the hands of a young man called Chamisa.

He said in full:

The current President of Zimbabwe if you don’t leave office when your time is genuinely due, you will die there, you won’t even see the next term. Zimbabwe is a nation loved by God and a nation that loves God.

There are still people who are praying in Zim for the will of God to be done even though there are many false dirty prophets, carrying themselves. There is a man called Emeritus as well, if I am not mistaken they made him His Excellency. I don’t know if he was made Excellency by this same president.

Mr President you must be desperate; making prophet excellency doesn’t mean the excellency is in you. The great excellency is Jesus. Mr President of Zim get on your knees and seek God’s face yourself. If you want to hear the truth God’s will for you, God’s plan is for you to finish your term, and go to your house, Zimbabwe oh Zimbabwe, hear this: tell your president, if he wants to live long, let him finish your term, and let him retire to his house.

Don’t be fooled because if you die these same prophets, these excellencies, and her excellencies and all these Passion Fruit, navigation javas, they will not die with you. Go and read the Bible these prophets have mislaid many Kings in the past and they die, by not listening to the voice of God. Nobody can cheat Zimbabwe of her destiny. God is particular about Zimbabwe now, do you know the future of Zimbabwe is a young man called Chamisa?

A young man is the future of Zimbabwe not the man that is there now. Let the true prophetic voices in Zim start speaking, and not these entertainers, Passion Fruit Navigating Javas, these men are pocketing your national cake in their pockets, claiming God is speaking through them. Africa’s hope is not in old men. Zimbabwe, man who is in his 70s and 80s, telling you he wants to rule you. Zimbabwe oh Zimbabwe; your destiny is in the hands of a young man, called Chimasa, or Chamisa or something like that.

Mavaza: Decline And Fall Of Cities Under Opposition | OPINION

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | Why do councils fail? What happens when they do?

Dr Masimba Mavaza

As a party ZANU PF has been grappling with these questions for some time, but just at the moment they seem more pressing than ever. It’s not just Harare and Bulawayo and the spectre of other councils but every council in Zimbabwe has been limping and crawling after being abuses and violated by the MDC led councillors. Failure is often many years in the making. Councils become less outward looking, more introspective, more defensive – they develop narratives about themselves and their own performance which increasingly bear no relation to reality.
On the national stage we see the end product of this gradual slide when it escalates into the public domain – often precipitated by events that make no sense to outsiders. How can this have been allowed to happen? Failure seems so obvious and self-evident that we fool ourselves that we couldn’t fall into the same traps and yet failure continues to happen.
We’re worried that we don’t, in our party have the mechanisms to deal consistently with council failure – particularly as the risks (not only financial) continue to grow. This is because almost all the councils are under the opposition. We actually need to reclaim these towns back so that we will be able to bring back sanity in our towns.
Opposition is an articulation of the key factors that lead failure to happen. ZANU PF needs to explore the current national landscape around failure and improvements and tries to chart a course for how Government, and sector led, improvement and intervention might be enhanced – in particular, by more attention being paid to the strength of governance at a local level.
ZANU PF promises to so better at identifying and arresting the risks of failure reducing the risk of intervention further down the line and feeding into the existing party led improvement
framework.
We recognise that there are plenty of people out there with their own views around local failure and improvement. This is because of the unguarded social media which parrots the failures of the MDC led failures and heap them on the feet of ZANU PF.
The party is keen to hear people’s views – in towns as we plan to refine and develop our thoughts on strengthened local governance, by speaking to a range of people involved in intervention at a local level, to really dig in to what failure looks and feels like, and by so doing help others to recognise it and draw themselves back from the edge – particularly where the risks are imminent.
The electorate must not be fooled the problems in our towns where we have been put fifty years back is the work of the opposition. They want to rescue our city statuses and blame their inefficiency on ZANU PF.
The MDC has been in council dominance since 2002. We have suffered enough. There needs to be a “thorough rethink” about how to approach failure in local government, the blame lies squarely on the opposition.

Methods of addressing failure in local government are “no longer fit for purpose”
There are four main types of failures which include a failure of culture, a failure of service, a failure of function and a failure of duty. The opposition led councils experiencing these types of failure often become less outward looking, more introspective and more defensive. The government’s recent experience of working with local authorities shows that it is time for a thorough rethink about council failures.
“Failure in councils is not something that is going to go away – in fact, a range of looming pressures mean that the problem is likely to become more prevalent in the years ahead unless the opposition is kicked out of the towns. Those in towns need to prepare for increasing instances of failure in the years ahead unless they remove MDC and CCC councillors.
ZANU PF is clear that improved scrutiny processes at the local level will be crucial in this effort.”

“The circumstances leading to failure – in councils as well as in the public sector more generally poorly understood.
“The impact of corporate collapse is always most acute for people whose lives depend upon vital local services, so it is crucial that we gain a more informed understanding of what causes failure, the better to detect the warning signs and bolster local intervention and improvement measures at the earliest opportunity.
There is no improvement without your input. You need to vote ZANU PF in the council elections. You can not have a country without council.

A local councillor will have numerous roles and responsibilities. It is a wide ranging and onerous position but can be very rewarding and some councillors seek re-election, some of them serving for 20 years or more but you must ask yourself one question what has been achieved by the opposition led councils in the past twenty years.

They had a duty to represent the views of the community and their needs. This is not restricted to your own ward as you must be objective and take into consideration the needs and well-being of all residents and the community as a whole.
Councillors also spend a great deal of time with their constituents through holding drop-in surgeries and corresponding and engaging with their constituents on a wide range of matters. When last did you see a councillor in towns calling you for a meeting. The opposition councillors have taken you for a ride far too long. This is time to stand up and be counted. Chose a new councillor. If a Councillor is also a member of a political party, they will be expected to attend political group meetings especially before council meetings, and also be required to attend party training, campaigns and events. So which party was your councillor reporting to.
It f a Councillor is also a member of a political party, they will be expected to attend political group meetings especially before council meetings, and also be required to attend party training, campaigns and events. process.
Each council has their governance arrangements detailed in its Constitutional documents, which will be outlined as part of induction.

The primary role of a councillor is to represent the ward and the citizens who live in it. Members of political parties may find that their party offers guidance on doing this. Councillors have a central part to play in making decisions that impact on their ward and across the whole council. They will be involved in decision-making through: so for the past 20 years what decisions were made by your councillors on your behalf.
You can not vote for the failed councillors over and over again. There will be no change. Vote for ZANU PF give the councils back to the party of excellency.

Prison Officer Murdered, Killers Walk Free

By- A family of a murdered prison officer from Insiza District in Matabeleland South are still looking for answers as they claim that those involved in the crime are known but roaming the streets scot-free.

Nhlanhla Siziba (40) died two weeks ago after unknown people assaulted his brother until he fell unconscious, before turning on him.

He was found dead on the highway after he was knocked down by a car.
His brother Mr Charles Siziba was having a drink with his sibling and after the attack is believed to have been carried home. This is where he heard of the news of Nhlanhla’s death from a family friend Ms Sithembile Ndlovu who was returning from Bulawayo. Nhlanhla, a prison officer at Khami Prison, was buried a week ago in the Gadade area.
Mr Siziba, who has a deep cut at the back of his right ear said the family was to meet with the driver of the car that reportedly knocked down and killed his brother.
We have been in contact with the person who knocked down Nhlanhla and as a family we are supposed to meet him. From this we shall establish what happened from his point of view. He shall tell us what he saw. So, I’m waiting for our parents who are travelling from Gwatemba to meet up with the man tomorrow (today),” said Mr Siziba.
He said he has been hearing reports that the men who attacked him and his brother are walking around the village.
“What surprises me is that people who I’m speaking to are telling me that those who attacked us are walking around the village. I’m not sure what is happening and my brother should not die in vain. It’s suspicious that his trousers were found metres away from the body. This to me shows that they were trying to rob us,” said Mr Siziba.
He said he has been told to travel to Shangani Police station to be updated about the death of his brother.
National Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said they were investigating the case.
“The alleged assault occurred whilst people were drinking beer. They later on had a scuffle and the prison officer tried to run across the road, then was struck by this vehicle and he died. We are conducting investigations in two parts, the assault and the road traffic accident,” said Asst Comm Nyathi. Chronicle

Government “Fires” Unvaccinated Workers

By- The government has announced that all unvaccinated civil servants without any underlying medical conditions have been barred from work without salary.

The state media reports that those with underlying conditions should produce medical certificates to justify their positions.

While some ministries were working with skeleton staff, the rest of the vaccinated Government workers working from home have been ordered to return to work with immediate effect and must adhere to the current lockdown normal working hours.
Public Service Commission Permanent Secretary Ambassador Jonathan Wutawunashe announced the latest move in a circular addressed to all ministries dated February 11, 2022, referenced measures for Covid-19 containment within the public service.

“In view of the announcement by the Acting President General (Rtd) Dr C.G.D.N Chiwenga on January 2022, regarding measures for Covid-19 containment in the country, heads of ministries are directed to adhere to the underlisted measures with immediate effect, all vaccinated members to return to work with immediate effect.
“Face to face interviews now permitted in strict adherence to Covid-19 health measures, office hours shall remain the same and in line with Section 3 (a) (i) of Statutory Instrument 234 of 2021, members not vaccinated should be barred from the workplace and shall not be paid while they are barred,” reads the circular.
According to the circular, any member that is not fully vaccinated without a reasonable excuse shall be subject to disciplinary proceedings while those with medical conditions that require exemption from vaccination should provide a medical certificate for a medical practitioner who certifies that the member’s condition can be worsened by the vaccine.

It further directed that all other health protocols such as wearing of face masks, social distancing and sanitisation should be adhered to.
According to the circular, Ambassador Wutawunashe urged all ministries to cooperate as the employer remains alert in combating this pandemic, which it said will be overcome through adherence to conduct and protocols prescribed by Zimbabwe Health officials and the World Health Organisation.

Can ZEC Be Trusted ?

Business Rejects Zim-Dollar

By- The business community told the Reserve Bank governor John Mangudya that they did not want the Zimbabwe dollar as it was not a sustainable currency.

This happened at a review of the 2022 monetary policy statement hosted by the Zimbabwe Economic Society two days after the MPS was released.
The Zimbabwe dollar was reintroduced in 2019 after a decade of absence following its collapse in 2008 when Zimbabwe recorded record hyperinflation of 231 million per cent as per official statistics.
Since its reintroduction, the local unit has been losing value against other currencies. The official forex rate stands at US$1:$118,87 while the parallel comparative is US$1:$240.
The exchange rate was US$1:6,36 and US$1:10 on the official and parallel markets, respectively, on June 26, 2019, the day the local currency was reintroduced.
Even workers are rejecting the local currency citing its loss of value against other currencies. They are demanding the restoration of their 2018 salaries that were United States Dollar-denominated.
Meanwhile, authorities have indicated that they will not be redollarising again as that was not “good for the economy.”

Greatman Misunderstood By Zimbabweans, Expert Reveals

By Showbiz Reporter | The recently wedded singer, Greatman has been misunderstood by Zimbabwens. an industry expert has said.

Cheteni, who also manages the legend Thomas Mapfumo’s programs, said comments slamming Greatman are paining.

Zimbabweans over the weekend rose up to attack Greatman over false opinions passed by his uncle that allege that the promoter, TEO Events misappropriated his wedding donations.

Writing on Tuesday morning, Cheteni said:

“Eeeish the way people are firing shots at Greatman is too much, some of the comments are so paining.

“We all know Greatman’s condition and he is one brother who has been trying to convince us that disability is not inability but do we know about his mental ability?

“No. I find it so hard to be saying some of those statements I have been reading.

Nakamba Injury Update

Marvelous Nakamba is continuing with his rehabilitation after picking a knee injury in December.

The Zimbabwean picked the setback in Aston Villa’s visit to Liverpool, and the knock required surgery.

The diagnosis pointed a medial collateral ligament (MCL) which often heals well and does not bring severe effects like the ACL.

According to the latest medical report, Nakamba is expected to return to full action in April and will have a chance to play a few games this season.

Villa coach Steven Gerrard commented on the situation of the player, saying: “We’re disappointed not to have Nakamba available. He was outstanding for us in the early weeks of our arrival.

“We’re giving him all of the support he needs now to try and make a safe and good recovery from that injury.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Special Tribute To Dr Tsvangirai

Tinashe Sambiri| The Citizens’ Coalition For Change has described the late iconic Movement for Democratic Change leader, President Morgan Richard Tsvangirai as a champion of democracy in Zimbabwe and abroad.

President Tsvangirai succumbed to cancer on February 14, 2018.

In a statement Citizens’ Coalition For Change Namibia took a swipe at Zanu PF and its surrogates for attempting to steal President Tsvangirai’s legacy.

Full statement below:
Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia celebrates the revolutionary life of the doyen of democracy, Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.

14 February 2022

Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia would like to take this opportunity to salute the iconic leadership of the late doyen of democracy Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai may his dear soul rest in power! “Your revolutionary trajectory shall continue to guide us in our fight against Zanupf Satanists and their surrogates”, Rundu Branch Secretary General Simbarashe Ndoda echoes. The national democratic revolution shall never die, the organic and pragmatic leader President Advocate Nelson Chamisa will accomplish your revolutionary dreams and aspirations in the Yellow Revolution.

Thank you for leading us commander! Your blood and sweat shall continue to inspire many in the citizens convergence to remove senseless and barefaced corruption. Today, Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia is going to submit its worries to the pioneer of constitutional democracy pertaining how Zanupf and Douglas Togarasei Mwonzora have unsuccessfully tried to hijack the people’s project.

They have recalled alliance MPs illegally using Zanupf captured courts. Zanupf lite has taken the Morgan Tsvangirai house claiming that he is the main opposition leader. CCC Namibia appeals to you Save, continue fighting with us as usual.

Mwonzora and cabal are trying everything to spoil your revolutionary and fighting legacy. They have sold the national democratic struggle for three pieces of silver. On the 14th of February, I urge all social democrats across the globe to celebrate the extraordinary life lived by our icon of democracy Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai. Today is the day that we remember Save’s commitment and dedication to the change that delivers. The late President Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai demonstrated consistency, varlour and mettle to fight Zanupf thugocrats braving torture, intimidation, arbitrary arrests and he also endured high levels of human butchery in 2002 and June 2008 where Mdc activists were butchered indiscriminately in cold blood.

Today, we are going to respect and honour your sacrifice to die in the hands of Zanupf for the emancipation of the citizens. Allow me Save to inform you about the formation of the New Baby, The Citizens Coalition For Change (CCC), change of symbol and colour. It is compulsory to confess that we didn’t transform our identity voluntarily but we were compelled to undergo metamorphosis in a bid to run away from masquerades who were now dinning and wining with Zanupf thugocrats hoodwinking the unsuspecting citizens as the genuine remnant of Save.

We are extremely sorry that we were forced to change our 1999 slogan and everything. Since you died, our founder of democracy in Zimbabwe, your people have suffered a lot under Zanupf using our erstwhile friends through captured courts to rob us of everything except ourselves. Save! , we allowed them to take everything except our political capital. We appreciate the vision, unity and strength of purpose you left in change seekers in our party. Citizens Coalition For Change is not a fight against what you established in 1999 but a continuation of the genuine revolution.

As your revolutionary soul rest in power, go on giving us the support in spirit against these counterfeit constitutionalists who are driven by their insatiable appetite for money. You never groomed us on the lines of stomach politics of self-enrichment but real independence that prioritises the citizens hence the presence of the new party. Believe you me Save, Citizens Coalition For Change led by President Advocate Nelson Chamisa is the only vehicle for socio-economic transformation. CCC is the only panacea to political and economic liberation of our people. Bless us SAVE!

You are forever our source of energy, enthusiasm and determination to prosecute the national democratic yellow revolution to its logical conclusion. Guide us our beloved political father so that we can convince our people to register 6 million voters for change who will vote in 2023 and defend the vote. The Yellow Machine is being oiled for complete socio-economic victory.

May your dear soul rest in power Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.

Khupe To Join Chamisa?

Self-appointed MDC-T president Thokozani Khupe has revealed that she will soon be joining another group, likely Nelson Chamisa’s CCC.

Thokozani Khupe on the day she was removed from the HICC during her party’s national Congress

She said her party would soon announce the formation an alliance with other political parties as the country heads for the 2023 plebiscite.

This was revealed by her spokesperson Ntando Ndlovu who told NewsDay that it was high time opposition political parties spoke with one voice in demanding electoral reforms.

He also said that his party was running a campaign under the theme #Beat the Pot; No Vote for Mwonzora; No Vote for Zanu PF in various wards where by-elections would be held throughout the country.

Last month, Khupe announced that she was breaking away from the MDC Alliance after Mwonzora announced that he was its leader and she declared herself the MDC-T leader.

“We deliberately did not field candidates in the upcoming by-elections because we took a principled position not to split the opposition votes.

“We are currently running a campaign which we launched a week ago under the theme #Beat the pot; No Vote for Mwonzora; No Vote for Zanu PF.

“The president of the party, Khupe will soon make an announcement on who we are urging MDC-T supporters to vote for in the by-elections because the party is conscious that a complete boycott of the polls will give advantage to Zanu PF,’’ Ndlovu said.

Efforts to get a comment from Mwonzora’s spokesperson Llyod Damba were fruitless yesterday.

Meanwhile, Ndlovu also said the electoral playing field was not level as there was unequal access to State media.

“In some areas, we have witnessed police officers disrupting opposition activities and there is this worrying claim that Zec is clandestinely moving voters to different polling stations. We urge all the political parties to speak with one voice in demanding electoral reforms. In particular, we are urging the regional bloc, Southern Africa Development Community, to work with Zimbabwean political actors in guaranteeing a free and fair 2023 election.” -Newsday

Benny Hinn, Juanita Bynum Campaign For Mnangagwa Activist Passion Java

ARE BENNY HINN AND JUANITA BYNUM TRUE PROPHETS? The below are videos of the US preachers with the controversial ZANU PF activist, Passion Java. In the first footage, is the female prophetess announcing that the clown Java is an anointed man of God. In the second one, Java and Hinn are announcing an upcoming program in Harare, before signing off with the offensive: “twabam” squealer.

Says Bynum: “God bless everybody, this man (Java) is something special of God, and I haven’t felt the anointing like that in a while praying prophesying over somebody, and something that I don’t normally do, that heavy in my class …but the Lord just kept drawing me to you 2 or 3 times, and I don’t know what all the Lord is going to do, but one thing I do know it’s going to be something great, cause you’re special of God and you have a special anointing, and I pray that you just stay humble before the Lord, and stay welcoming to Him, and he will do great and mighty things in your life, God bless you.”

Jyamuta Bynum and Passion Java

Benny Hinn and Juanita Bynum are held by many Pentecostal Christians as preachers of good morals, and the latest development strikes out opposites on his character.

Passion Java has several videos of him supporting the ongoing terrorism in Zimbabwe and he regularly engages in vulgarities in public.

Motorist Pushed Out Of Own Car By Robbers

A Midlands motorist lost his vehicle to a machete-wielding gang last week after he offered the criminals a lift at Redcliff turn off, Southern Eye has learnt.

Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident yesterday saying Trymore Dhikiza was robbed of his Toyota Vitz vehicle by two men who produced a machete and forced him out of his car upon entering Kwekwe.

“On February 13, Dhikiza offered two men a lift at the Redcliff turn off,” Mahoko said. “When they reached a bus stop in Kwekwe, the two men produced a machete and forced the driver to disembark from the vehicle and they (robbers) drove away.”

Mahoko said on Sunday at around 1250pm, the men, who were armed with logs and bars arrived at the mine and assaulted two security guards who were on duty.

“They demanded keys to the carbon room and went inside before stealing two 50kg bags of carbon gold,” he said. -Newsday

Mnangagwa Flies To Brussels Today

President Mnangagwa is expected to leave the country today for Brussels, Belgium, for the EU/AU summit as he bolsters the country’s re-engagement and engagement initiative that has seen Zimbabwe’s relations with former hostile nations improving.

Scores of leaders from

Emmerson Mnangagwa – file

the European Union and African Union are expected to attend the key meeting where world leaders exchange ideas and forge deals.

THE 6th AU-EU summit will be held on February 17 and 18.

In a statement, the EU said the summit presents a “unique opportunity to lay the foundations for a renewed and deeper AU-EU partnership with the highest political involvement and based on trust and a clear understanding of mutual interests”.

“The aim is to launch an ambitious Africa-Europe investment package, taking into account global challenges such as climate change and the current health crisis,” part of the agenda says.

At the meeting peace and security issues are expected to feature prominently especially as there are threats of destabilisation on both continents.

There will be a series of thematic meetings that will discuss topics that include growth financing, health systems, and vaccine production, agriculture and sustainable development, education, culture and vocational training, migration and mobility, private sector support, and economic integration.

EU and AU Heads of State will be participating in the roundtables, together with a selected group of external guests who are experts in their respective fields.

“A joint declaration on a joint vision for 2030 is expected to be adopted by the participants.”

Coming on the backdrop of a hugely successful trip to Glasgow Scotland for the COP26 meeting that was held last year, the visit to Belgium where the EU parliament is located is yet another breakthrough for Zimbabwe, under the leadership of President Mnangagwa who has made re-engagement one of his administration’s key policies. -Herald

Tribute To Dr Tsvangirai

Tinashe Sambiri|The Citizens’ Coalition For Change (CCC) will hold an online event to commemorate and celebrate the life of Movement for Democratic Change founding member President Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.

President Tsvangirai succumbed to cancer on February 14, 2018.

In a statement CCC described President Tsvangirai as a doyen of democracy in Zimbabwe.

“On Monday, 14 February we will bring you a special St Valentines @TwitterSpaces to honor the memory our democracy icon Morgan Tsvangirai.

President Tsvangirai A True People’s Hero

Tinashe Sambiri|Citizens’ Coalition For Change leader President Nelson Chamisa has described the late founding President of the Movement for Democratic Change, Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai as a great mentor and visionary.

President Chamisa pledged to abide by Dr Tsvangirai’s great vision.

He accused the Zanu PF regime of attempting to capture President Tsvangirai’s legacy.

“A GIANT, A MENTOR, A FIGHTER, A DEMOCRAT, & A CONFIDANTE.This day you exited this life.

They are still trying those old tactics they used against you.

They will not succeed. The struggle is in safe hands. Sadly missed. Rest in Power Mudhara,” President Chamisa wrote on Twitter.

ZANU PF Gets Busy Digging Boreholes As Elections Approach

ZANU-PF Midlands province has started drilling boreholes in Mkoba constituency in Gweru to mitigate perennial water challenges.

Already, a borehole has been drilled in Mambo suburb while the drilling of another borehole in Mkoba 16 suburb has started.

A tower light has also been fixed in Mkoba 16 suburb to provide residents with light during the night as the ruling party promises more service delivery programmes to the people of Mkoba Constituency ahead of the upcoming March 26 by-election.

Zanu-PF will be represented by Cde William Gondo, a renowned educationist in the Mkoba Constituency by-election.

The party’s provincial chairperson Cde Larry Mavima and Central Committee Member Engineer Daniel Mackenzie Ncube have been in Mkoba Constituency campaigning for Cde Gondo. President Mnangagwa launched the ruling party’s campaign for the by-elections in Epworth, Harare on Saturday.

Cde Mavima, who is also the Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution said so far, they have done more in terms of pushing service delivery than what the opposition has done in many years.

“President Mnangagwa rolled out the campaign for the upcoming by-election. As a province we are earmarking Mkoba, Mbizo, Kwekwe Central, Gokwe Central and Mberengwa constituencies as well as a number of local authorities’ seats. Some have been in the hands of the opposition and some have been ours.

But come March 26, we should go out in numbers to win these seats,” he said while addressing party supporters in Mkoba 10 suburb, which is part of Mkoba Constituency.

For urban dwellers, Cde Mavima said service delivery is key.

“We are saying vote for the Zanu-PF candidate and enjoy service delivery,” he said.

Eng Mackenzie Ncube said already, the ruling party has drilled a borehole in Mambo suburb.

“Residents of Mambo can draw water from that borehole. We know Gweru has perennial water challenges which affect the residents. So, we have this plan of drilling boreholes in the seven wards making up Mkoba Constituency. Next, we are moving to Mkoba 16 to drill a borehole. Also, a tower light in that suburb was fixed by the ruling party,” he said.

Cde Gondo, who runs Booms College in Mkoba, said he will push for socio-economic development for Mkoba residents.

Already, he said he is running a scholarship programme which has assisted 53 beneficiaries since its inception.

The beneficiaries were chosen from seven wards in Mkoba Constituency.

“Rendering such assistance is part of answering the call by President Mnangagwa to assist Zimbabweans, especially from disadvantaged backgrounds through education,” he said.

“This programme targets all students notwithstanding the political affiliation of their elders at their homes, and normally those who are less privileged are recruited based on the recommendations from community leaders.” -Chronicle

Repent Or Perish, Prophet Warns Mnangagwa

About Air Pollution

Credit: World Health Organization

Vismita Gupta-Smith

Why does WHO consider air pollution a major public health emergency? If you live in areas with high levels of air pollution, does COVID-19 impact you differently? Hello and welcome to Science in 5, I’m Vismita Gupta-Smith. We are talking to Dr. Maria Neira today.

Welcome, Maria. Maria, let’s start with why does WHO consider air pollution a major public health emergency?

Dr Maria Neira

Hello, everyone. Well, when you have more than 7 million premature deaths every year, every single year associated with exposure to air pollution, I’m sure that everybody agrees that this is a major public health issue. Actually, nine out of every 10 people around the world, particularly those living in cities, are breathing air that is not consistent with what WHO considers the good standards according to our air quality guidelines for breathing and still be healthy. And, you know, for many years, we thought and most of the diseases linked to exposure to air pollution were considered only to be affecting our respiratory system. And this is still true. Very much. Exposure to air pollution is responsible for chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, lung cancer, pneumonia, name it. But in addition to that, we know now that these toxic particles will come to our lungs and from there to the bloodstream will reach our cardiovascular system and then be responsible for ischemic heart diseases, for neurological disorders, for stroke, for neurological problems as well in general and reproductive system issues. So, as you can imagine, all of those reasons tell us consider that air pollution is one of the biggest public health issues we are confronting today.

Vismita Gupta-Smith

Maria, if a person is living in a highly polluted environment where whether air pollution levels are very high. Does COVID-19 impact them differently?

Dr Maria Neira

Yes, we have now more and more scientific evidence. One reason is that exposure, long term exposure to air pollution will affect your immune system and therefore will make you more susceptible to any type of respiratory diseases. And obviously, COVID-19 is a respiratory disease. In addition to that, we know that exposure to air pollution will increase the risk for chronic diseases like cardiopulmonary, like metabolic diseases, diabetes. And we all know now that those diseases are the so-called co-morbidities that will increase the risk for more severity and even later outcome if you are a patient with COVID-19. So, yes.

Vismita Gupta-Smith

Maria, when we think about air pollution, it seems like the scale is so big and what can we do to reduce it? Share with us some examples of initiatives that governments and organizations took, which actually reduced air pollution.

Dr Maria Neira

Well, clearly the best way to reduce air pollution will be stop burning fossil fuels. I mean, that combustion of the fossil fuels is contributing not only to climate change, but to generate this high level of pollutants that then end up in our lungs. So changing that policy around which source of energy we are using will be one of the most effective. Legislation, go for enforcing the air quality guidelines of WHO. But if we go to concrete measures, of course at the city level, you have measures now going for change in the transport, the public transport system they have, promoting more sustainable ways of public transport, reducing the use of private cars, going for more efficient energy use of our buildings, making sure that they reduce the traffic congestion in certain areas. And we can see that all of those measures are immediate. They have immediate positive outcomes. Obviously, as an individual, the best you can do is to put pressure on your politicians, on your mayors. Make sure that there are systems to monitor the air quality that you are breathing every day in your city. And by doing so, ensuring that measures are taken at the political level. If the situation on air pollution is really bad, if we take measures, there is optimism. You can see that in European countries, for instance, or North America, the situation improved very much in the last 20 years. We are still far in other parts of the world and we still need to put in place measures on sustainable transport, a clean and modern use of energy sources and all our way of consuming, recycling. And therefore we will be able to tackle this huge problem of air pollution. Tackling the causes of climate change will bring enormous benefits as well on reducing the causes of air pollution and therefore contributing enormously to our health.

Vismita Gupta-Smith

Thank you, Maria, for explaining this link, this interconnectedness between our health and that of the planet. Thank you very much. That was Science in 5 today. Until next time then. Stay healthy, stay safe and stick with science…

Mwonzora Rally Flops

Shame as Star rally failed: Mwonzora and MDC T suffers worst humiliation at Zororo grounds, Harare

As Zanu PF bussed it’s supporters from as far as Masvingo to attend rally in Epworth, Harare

12 February 2022

Wezhira Munya

There are more than
300 000 registered voters in Harare. Yesterday Mwonzora’s star rally was attended by less than 2 000 people. Court judges, stolen political finances, Harvest House and recalls have failed to help Mwonzora to mobilize people to attend his rally. Pathetic.

MDC T under Mwonzora has finally died. Only a handful attended Mwonzora star rally.

The once might MDC under late President Tsvangirai and President Chamisa died under careless leadership of Mwonzora. The last rally by MDC Alliance in 2018, under President Chamisa had over 40 000 people in attendance. The venue turned into sea of red as president Chamisa and red army face Zanu PF during 2018 harmonised elections.

President Chamisa defeated Zanu PF but constitutional court declared Mnangagwa as the president of Zimbabwe.

Out of anger, in 2019, Zanu PF and Mwonzora hatched a plan to destroy MDC Alliance led by President Chamisa. Firstly, the courts declared that president Chamisa was not the
leader and grant leadership to Khupe. Then Mwonzora “stole” MDC T’s presidency at it’s extraordinary congress that was financed by Zanu PF.

Secondly, Mwonzora recalled MDC Alliance member of Parliament and councillors on allegations that they have joined a new party.

Thirdly, Mwonzora “stole” political funds from MDC Alliance through
Zanu PF ‘s assistance.

Fourthly, towards 2022 by elections, MDC T chairperson Komichi and Mwonzora declared that MDC T will contest elections as MDC Alliance.

This anger Khupe, who expelled Mwonzora from MDC T on the basis that Mwonzora has joined another political party. Khupe argued that, Mwonzora expelled members of Parliament and councillors because they joined MDC Alliance.

In addition, Khupe declared that, there are now two MDC Ts one under her and another one under Khupe.

Khupe’s supporters managed fill the hall where she had her presser to declare split of MDC T.

Yesterday, Mwonzora and MDC T became the laughing stock of the world after few people attended the “star rally” at Zororo ground in Harare.

On MDC T poor attendance, The Sunday Mail commented that, ” A small crowd attended the MDC T rally at Zororo Stadium in Highfields on Saturday afternoon”

Also, today, Standard News paper front page commented that, ” Mwonzora gets rude awakening as an estimated 300 people turned up for the rally, but a statement issued by the party claimed 5000 attended.”

In addition, Hon Temba Mliswa and Killer Zivhu posted messages laughing at MDC T and Mwonzora after poorly attended rally.

During the late President Tsvangirai and President Chamisa’s reign MDC Alliance rally attendance ranged from 15 000 to 40 000, commented on MDC T member.

But yesterday, Mwonzora metaphorically hearsed the once grant MDC party to the resting place (Zororo Grounds) where few mourners gathered to bid farewell and pay their last respects to MDC.

MDC T members under Mwonzora are disappointed and angry after yesterday’s flopped rally. On one MDC T leaked chat , MDC T member Hilda Sibanda is fuming with anger and some are blaming Mhetu for sabotaging the rally. Surely, MDC T under Mwonzora is burning.

One MDC T 2022 by election candidate said, “Honestly, l don’t have hope to win under MDC T. Mwonzora is unpopular. It will be a miracle to win one council seat in the entire Zimbabwe during this by elections. I regretted why l became a candidate.”

There are 143 council and members of Parliament seats to be contested on 26th March 2022.

MDC T under Mwonzora failed to field 33 candidates.

On the other hand, a new political party led by President Chamisa , Coalition Citizens for Change (CCC) has managed to field candidates in all 143 constituencies and councils.

President Chamisa will held a mega by election rally very soon. The CCC vice chairperson advocate Job Sikhala wrote, “We are launching our 2022 by election campaign with a mega star rally soon. Watch the space.”

President Chamisa’s new party is already giving headaches and sleepless nights to both MDC T (Alliance) and Zanu PF.

Yesterday, Zanu PF ‘s president Mnangagwa attacked president Chamisa and his party at Epworth in Harare where he launched by election campaign. Zanu PF bussed thousands of it’s supporters as far as Masvingo to boost its numbers.

On the other hand, Mwonzora attacked President Chamisa and CCC party describing them as “terrorists”. Surprisingly Zanu PF president Mnangagwa did not attack Mwonzora and Mwonzora reciprocated and did not attack Mnangagwa.

This has cemented the narrative that Mwonzora and Mnangagwa are buddies. Mwonzora and Mnangagwa held many meetings at State House.

26 March 2022, by elections will totally bury MDC T led by Mwonzora.

Government Bars Unvaccinated Workers From Work

Mnangagwa Speaks On Zanu PF Factionalism

By- Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa has warned divisive elements within Zanu PF that “it is cold out there” as factionalism continues to rock his party ahead of the March 26 by-elections.

Addressing a rally in Epworth at the weekend, Mnangagwa admitted that the party’s internal elections held in December last year were very chaotic amid allegations of vote-rigging, violence and factionalism.
“I am aware that we have by-elections coming up and during the provincial elections, we got reports that they were chaotic. Conflicts are accepted in the party but if a candidate wins, we must all embrace the result and rally behind them,” he said.
“We do not want thieves. I am told some of the candidates ran away with ballot papers during primary elections. If you are the one who disappeared with ballot papers, let it be the last time. Zanu PF loves peace.
“You must follow the laws that are in the party. Respect the laws of the party. Do not join the opposition. Do not ever attempt to leave. It’s cold out there.”
Mnangagwa blamed lack of development in the country on the late former President Robert Mugabe’s era, saying that at that time, money that was meant for development was looted.
“I sometimes question where money meant for development went during the First Republic, but I’m quick to put myself to order (keep quiet) as I was also part of the old regime.”
Political analyst Eldred Masunungure said: “Assuming it was not a miss of the tongue, that is staggeringly shocking and yet unwittingly true, especially from a regime that consistently seeks to distance itself in word and deed from the so-called first republic.”
Mnangagwa also claimed that opposition Citizens Coaliton for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa would not rule the country, saying it would be a difficult feat for him to achieve.
But CCC national spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said Chamisa’s victory was certain whether Mnangagwa liked it or not.
“CCC has gone viral and has caused Zanu PF and Mnangagwa to go on panic mode. It is the people that will decide who will get to State House,” she said.
Political commentator Effie Ncube described Mnangagwa’s statement as irresponsible.
“It shows a complete disregard of the democratic tenets and the people who are supposed to be electors. Whether the opposition stays in the opposition forever or the ruling party stays in power forever, it is not something to be decided by the President. It is out of his control. No party stays in power forever regardless of what it is doing,” he said. Newsday

Mwonzora Remembers Tsvangirai, Holds Tsvangirai Lecture

Opposition MDC-T leader Daglous Mwonzora said his party is hosting a public lecture in honour of the late MDC founder, Morgan Tsvangirai.

Tsvangirai succumbed to cancer on 14 February 2018.

In a statement, Mwonzora said:
President Morgan Tsvangirai passed away on 14 February 2018. Honouring his memory, we will host the annual Morgan Tsvangirai Memorial Lecture at MRT House tomorrow (Monday). We shall forever preserve his legacy.

Diplomatic Crisis Imminent as Mnangagwa Stalks Hichilema

By- There is a looming diplomatic crisis following reports that President Emmerson Mnangagwa was stalking Zambia President Hakainde Hichilema.

On Monday, reports by a local online publication also said Mnangagwa’s CIO monitored the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa, paying attention to his relations with Hichilema.

Chamisa has been friends with Hichilema when the latter was also in the opposition before defeating Edgar Lungu in last year’s election.

Following his victory, there were fears that the wave of change might spread across the region, a development that could prove costly to conservatives and former revolutionary parties in the region which include ZANU PF and ANC in South Africa.

The NewsHawks reports that President Mnangagwa is one of those worried sick and scared stiff of a potential major geo-political and electoral shift in the country amid reports that Chamisa held meetings with Hichilema twice inside five months.

This comes as veteran Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga, who is also close to Chamisa, is believed to have high chanes of winning elections scheduled for 9 August.

The NewsHawks was told that Mnangagwa became very attentive since Hichilema’s invitation to Zimbabwe’s opposition leaders, to his inauguration. An intelligence source told the NewsHawks:

Since HH (Hichilema) came to power, the intelligence has been working hard to establish the nature of their relations and whether it involves financial support. Their worry is on various fronts: diplomatic, political and geopolitical.

Diplomatically, the issue is whether this won’t damage relations between Zambia and Zimbabwe; politically if HH supports Chamisa and his CCC, and in geopolitical terms how this will influence relations between the two countries and power relations in the region.

Bluntly put, Mnangagwa is worried that HH may fund Chamisa and influence the outcome of the 2023 elections, mainly the presidential poll.

When Chamisa flaunted his close relations with Hichilema, saying he had called him after his victory, Mnangagwa came out to claim that he was a friend to the Zambian leader and his wife, in fact, a relative.

Chamisa Remembers Tsvangirai

By- Nelson Chamisa, the country’s main opposition, CCC, has saluted the late MDC founder, Morgan Tsvangirai.

Tsvangirai succumbed to cancer on 14 February 2018.

In a statement, Chamisa said:
On this day, 14 February 2018, we lost a champion for democracy in Zimbabwe, Morgan Richard Tsvangirai. We remember his contribution to the struggle, and we will ensure that we complete the mission. May he rest in power.
Morgan Tsvangirai’s political career began with his election as the Secretary-General of the national trade unions umbrella body. During this period, the movement criticised the government’s failure to improve the workers’ lives, which placed Tsvangirai in the political limelight.

Biti Arrested, Harrassed And Released

By- Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) was arrested, harassed, and released by the police on Monday.

Police arrested Biti in Glendale and later released him without charge.

His party announced in the afternoon that he was taken to Harare Central Police Station and was later taken to Rhodesville Police Station after his arrest at Letombo Spar in Greendale.

The party said Biti was on a “meet and greet” as he campaigns for MP ahead of March 26 by-election.

Said CCC in a statement:
Hon @BitiTendai has been unlawfully arrested in Greendale by 3 armed police officers including the OIC of Rhodesville Police Station. He’s being held at Harare Central Police Station. @PoliceZimbabwe have declined to advise him of the charges against him. DTF
Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) issued a statement that supported reports by the CCC. Said the lawyers:
Human rights lawyer @BitiTendai is currently detained at Harare Central Police Station after he was arrested by @PoliceZimbabwe while at Letombo Spar in Msasa Harare.
ZLHR in an update said Biti had been moved to Rhodesville Police Station from Harare Central Police Station.
The lawyers later reported that Biti had been released without charge. Said ZLHR in a statement:
Our rapid reaction system works effectively to limit & combat violation of HRDs rights&after the quick intervention of ours lawyers, @BitiTendai & his aide Emmanuel Zellers Gumbo has just been released with no charges preferred against them after being taken to 2 police stations.
Responding to the reports that Biti had been arrested, some social media users criticised the government for “abusing human rights.”
Some said the arrest was staged and is part of a grand plan to boost Biti’s chance of winning the by-elections set for 26 March.

Zec Speaks On Rigging

By-The Zimbabwe Election Commission has opened up on rigging reports.

In a statement Monday while responding to reports that the Commission has moved about 170 000 voters on the voters roll from their original constituency, ZEC said :

ZIMSEC Fails To Release Marking Allowances For Grade 7 Exams

By A Correspondent- Teachers who marked 2021 Grade Seven examinations are still to get their allowances despite promises by the Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) to pay them with speed.

The examinations were written in December and the marking ended on January 20 this year.

Examiners who spoke to a local publication said (ZIMSEC) had promised to pay the teachers as soon as they finished marking the examinations.

Each teacher was supposed to be paid ZW$15 per script.

Approximately, each person was supposed to mark about 500 scripts. One examiner said

ZIMSEC only paid us our allowances which amounted to ZW$46 000 RTGS. As for the actual marking, we have not been paid anything so far. This money is very little, and we do not know why ZIMSEC is taking so long to pay so little.

Another examiner said ZIMSEC had breached the payment contract which stated that they were supposed to have been paid upon completion of marking. Added the examiner:

We worked under very difficult conditions and some of us sacrificed our lives by accepting to mark the examinations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Early this month, the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) alleged that teachers who marked the examinations will be paid $16 500 for 14 marking days. The union described the figure as paltry and an insult to the teaching profession.

Meanwhile, the results were released on the 4th of February.

We Will Not Allow Zanu PF Surrogates To Spoil President Tsvangirai Reputation- CCC

Guide us our beloved political father so that we can convince our people to register 6 million voters for change who will vote in 2023 and defend the vote. The Yellow Machine is being oiled for complete socio-economic victory.

May your dear soul rest in power Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.

Mapeza Blames Referee For Loss To Bulawayo Chiefs

FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza has criticised how the referee handled their 2-0 defeat to Bulawayo Chiefs in a rearranged Castle Lager Premiership Matchday 3 encounter on Sunday.

The gaffer was shown a red card by referee Philani Ncube for remonstration in the first half after Petros Mhari received a caution for a foul on Obriel Chirinda outside the box.

Mapeza felt the send-off was unfair as he was not talking to the assistant coach.

“The red card was unfair, I never said anything to the linesman and the referee,” Mapeza told reporters after the match.

“He (the limesman) was far away from where I was. I was talking to Petros (Mhari) why he didn’t take the ball away.

“Surprisingly, I got a red card. It’s sad, what the referee did is not good for football.”

Mapeza also questioned why the match officials didn’t notice when Chiefs played for close to three minutes with twelve men on the pitch.

The incident happened after Chirinda was substituted, but did not leave the field in the 72nd minute.

The coach continued: “What’s going on in our football? Chiefs had twelve players on the pitch, the referee is there and the fourth official is there, but it happened.

“How did that happen?”

Chiefs opened the scoring in the 6th-minute through Mthokozisi Msebe before Chirinda doubled the lead in the 47th minute from the spot.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Future Of Zim In President Chamisa’s Hands – Prophet

Dangers Of Exposure To Air Pollution

Zanu PF Using Puppets To Steal President Tsvangirai Legacy

ZLHR STATEMENT ON INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN SCIENCE

Press Statement

11 February 2022

On International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) calls upon members of the public to join the rest of the world in celebrating the achievements of women and girls in science and advocating for the removal of obstacles that prevent women from participating in the science industries.

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is commemorated every year on the 11th of February in order to highlight the contributions of women and girls in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and encourage the increased
participation of women and girls in these fields.

The theme for International Day of Women and Girls in Science in 2022 is “Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion: Water Unites Us.” The theme seeks to highlight the crucial role that can be played by women and girls in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and
Sanitation).

The expertise of women in STEM industries can be leveraged in order to resolve the global water challenges that hinder economic development, social justice and environmental sustainability.

International Day of Women and Girls in Science is also an opportunity to reflect on the barriers that prevent women and girls from entering and fully participating in STEM fields, despite their immense contributions to scientific discoveries, medical breakthroughs, and
technological innovations.

Some of the barriers that prevent women and girls from entering STEM industries include gender discrimination and gender stereotyping. This discrimination and stereotyping perpetuates gender inequality and, ultimately, the quality of life of women and girls in society.

Therefore, the elimination of discrimination in STEM industries is key to the attainment of gender equality and the improvement of the socio-economic standing of women in society. In addition, the United Nations (UN) has recognised science and gender equality to be crucial to the achievement of internationally-agreed development goals, such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals.

In particular, Goal 5 of the Sustainable Development Goals is the attainment of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.

In Zimbabwe, the gender stereotyping and discrimination of women in STEM industries is exacerbated by cultural norms which dictate the kinds of professions that women should pursue. In many communities, a career in STEM industries is considered to be reserved for men.

Some communities still shun the idea of a woman pursuing a career at all, let alone a career in STEM fields. Therefore, addressing these widespread beliefs and norms is vital to eradicating the discrimination that prevents women and girls in Zimbabwe from pursuing
careers in STEM industries.

The Zimbabwean government is urged to implement gender equality programmes and education reforms that address the gender stereotypes and discrimination against women and girls who choose to pursue careers in STEM industries.

On this International Day of Women and Girls in Science, ZLHR calls upon:

•       Members of the public to join the rest of the world in celebrating the achievements of women and girls in science and advocating for the removal of obstacles that prevent women from participating in the science industries;

•       The Zimbabwean authorities to implement gender equality programmes and education reforms that address the stereotypes and discrimination against women and girls who choose to pursue careers in STEM industries.

‘Tsvangirai Speaking From The Grave’

By Luke Tamborinyoka| Exactly four years ago to the day, the doyen of the country’s democratic struggle died. It was only befitting that Morgan Richard Tsvangirai would die on Valentine’s Day—on the day that the power of love is celebrated worldwide— for the man was an iconic patriot who not only loved his country but was reputably a man of love in many other respects.

As per tradition, today’s column is a special dedication in remembrance of Morgan Tsvangirai, a man I served for 10 years as his spokesperson and trusted lieutenant. He was a father, a friend and a boss all rolled into one.

Tsvangirai loved his white wine. He would invariably become free-willed and would open up his mind after several glasses of wine, which he loved just as he loved his golf. Morgan Tsvangirai did not partake any type of beer. While on a trip from Mberengwa to Zvishavane late 2013, I asked him if he had ever taken any type of beer and if so, why he had kicked the habit. He only told me that something embarrassing had happened after he and others had drunk to the advent of a new country in the promising and celebratory days of the roaring 1980s. Since then, he said he had vowed never to drink beer again. I had dutifully refrained from pressing him on the intimate details of the embarrassing episode as it was clear he was not keen to shed any more light on the shameful misadventure, whatever it was.

The late MDC president Morgan Tsvangirai with his spokesman Luke Tamborinyoka
We sat down one evening in 2014 as he exhorted me to write a piece of his personal reflections, almost a year after the stolen election of 2013.

He told me several talking points that touched on the election that had been brazenly stolen against the background of an inclusive government that had engendered so much hope and promise for the country; he frankly spoke about his family, his love life and the despondency he had seen in the countryside in a nationwide tour in which we had together traversed the whole country and engaged citizens in the immediate aftermath of the stolen plebiscite of July 2013. He also spoke about the naive assumption in 2013 that huge voting numbers in the absence of comprehensive reforms would overwhelm any Zanu-PF rigging plot, itself a cardinal lesson for us as the CCC leadership not to lose focus on the reform agenda.

It was a candid and honest exchange that evening as he told me the talking points for his envisaged message to the people of Zimbabwe. He specifically instructed that I should dub the message his “personal reflections”. We agreed that the op-ed would carry his byline so as to befittingly shorn it with the requisite intimate, personal touch.

Deep in my mind, I had attributed the candidness and jovial looseness of mind to the half-empty bottle of white wine that arrogantly stood on the table before him.

However, my conjecture could be wrong. It may not have been the wine as he would later exhibit the same frankness and free-spiritedness when I routinely interviewed him on a wide range of issues for a book that is set to be published in the coming months. For Service and Sacrifice, my forthcoming book, contains hitherto unknown details about his personal views on a wide array of matters, his work in government as well as his interactions and his working relationship with Mr Robert Mugabe, particularly during the tenuous era of the inclusive government.

But the forthcoming book is a story for another day.

That discussion that evening in 2014 for a candid opinion piece under his byline will forever remain ingrained in my mind. Here was the true Morgan Tsvangirai speaking from the heart. Unrestrained, free-flowing, unadulterated and genuine.

Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai and his spokesman Luke Tamborinyoka
The late opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai and his then spokesman Luke Tamborinyoka
Today, in his memory, I republish the epic piece in which he reflected on his love life as well as a despondent country in the aftermath of a stolen election in which Zanu PF had made so many promises but delivered nothing.

Today, having come from yet another stolen election in 2018 in which Zanu-PF promised to do so much and yet has delivered nothing , the country finds itself in the same space in which Dr Tsvangirai wrote the piece below.

Indeed, we are in the same political moment in which Dr Tsvangirai reflected on a diverse array of issues, particularly on a weather-beaten people in the aftermath of an election in which Zanu PF had promised so much and conspired to disappoint.

In his memory, amid a striking congruency in the moment in which his op-ed was written, I will allow Dr Tsvangirai to yet again address a similarly stressed nation from the grave!

Personal Reflections

By Morgan Tsvangirai

The lasting image of the last election that has remained largely ingrained in my mind is of the mammoth crowd that gathered in Harare on what we dubbed the Cross Over rally on July 29, 2013.

It is an indelible image of a nation that was geared for change, a determined people on the brink of crossing over to a new country with new opportunities under a new and competent dispensation.

Nelson Chamisa, Morgan Tsvangirai, Elizabeth Tsvangirai and Luke Tamborinyoka
Nelson Chamisa, Morgan Tsvangirai, Elizabeth Tsvangirai and Luke Tamborinyoka
Now it has been 11 months since the election on 31 July 2013 and the swearing in of the current government of Zimbabwe; but the situation in the country is dispiriting.

Starting on 3rd September 2013, I began a national conversation with the people of Zimbabwe.

I have travelled across the length and breath of our nation, engaging in dialogue with people from all walks of life and holding rallies that attracted multitudes.
In my visits to the various districts after the election, I have seen and witnessed the pain of Zimbabweans, the palpable despair amongst the people as they contemplated a future for themselves and their families under the Zanu PF regime.

The ordinary people of this country are simply failing to cope with life in the current socio-economic circumstances that are upon us.

I spoke to pensioners that have found themselves pauperized, disenfranchised and smothered by the debilitating economic policies and unmitigated mismanagement by the Mugabe government. I saw parents struggling to pay for their children’s school fees and health-care; men and women emasculated by Zanu PF’s failing policies and company closures.

I saw previously employed citizens and those seeking work who now cannot sustain a meaningful life, including university graduates vending airtime vouchers and anything else that can be sold.

Indeed, the nation has become one big mall, a huge ‘ Siyaso ’ market with everyone trying to sell something to someone just to make ends meet.

I saw villagers struggling to buy basics for their families, huge families surviving on far much less that US$1 per day.

The question on everybody’s mind is how so much pain, despair and desperation can immediately follow what our colleagues in Zanu PF would want to call a resounding victory that gave them an overwhelming mandate? From where we had started since the formation of the inclusive government in early 2009 and where we had reached by 2013, notable progress had been recorded and hope for a brighter future sufficiently generated.

The desperate times of the crisis era of 2008 had become a distant memory and a new sense of hope had crept in the country by the time we held the last election.

The past had become another country.

We all thought that the election was going to result in the consolidation of the hope and the progress that had set in the country after 2009.My heart is heavy today, as we accelerate towards the same economic turmoil from where we had rescued the people of Zimbabwe some five years ago!

Closeted at State House, Mr Mugabe remains marooned from the reality of the national situation, oblivious to the daily predicament facing Zimbabweans as they struggle to survive.

The last election

As the elections drew nearer, much of the intelligence we had gathered had pointed to the reality that the shenanigans from Zanu PF were at play.
But we had judged that our sheer numbers were going to overwhelm the electoral mischief Zanu PF had planned. Put simply, we underestimated the level of subversion of the people’s will that had been planned.

I remember my meeting with president Mugabe on the eve of the election, a meeting facilitated by former Nigeria President Olusegun Obasanjo at which I tabled a copy of a couple of pages of the shambolic voters roll that was to be used in the elections the following day.
Mugabe’s response was – Ivo vana Mudede vanombozvifambisa sei ? (How is the Registrar-General Mr Mudede doing his work?). He said this as he retracted into his chair, feigning ignorance of what was about to happen.

Despite our much-concerted efforts to get the electronic voters roll in time and not getting it, we eventually participated in the elections without the said voters roll. As we in the MDC have said, we had assumed that our sheer numbers were going to overwhelm the rigging plot. With the benefit of hindsight, we were wrong!

As the results of the elections became clear to our people on the ground, the nation had once again been shortchanged in yet another electoral fraud.

That election was the beginning of the unprecedented uncertainty and we must budget for more such uncertainty under this dark cloud of illegitimacy. All the hope that had been generated for the nation has simply disappeared.

It had appeared to me after 2008 that Zanu PF had begun to appreciate the overwhelming impact of illegitimacy on all sectors of the economy. We all thought President Mugabe had come to desire a dignified exit. And again, that is as far as my humanity had judged. We were wrong.

But I want to restate that we remain a determined people. We are confident that the change we seek will definitely be achieved well within our lifetime.

Naysayers and doomsayers may be prematurely writing our obituary but we remain focused on what we set out to achieve in 1999. And we will achieve it.

I have great faith in the people of Zimbabwe. We are a heroic people that will not tire until we achieve the peace, stability, democracy and prosperity that our country desires and deserves.

The Economy

Since the contested elections of 2013, the economy is failing to gain any traction. This single issue has brought about an array of problems as the symptoms below reveal.

To the citizen, we have seen insecure jobs to the few that still have them, unfulfilled promises to civil servants and inadequate remuneration as well as the disappearance and diminishing of any form of savings.

Systemic corruption and unbridled avarice have become an albatross of this economy. And this at a time when the country itself is seriously mired in debt, the external debt of which is in excess of $10 billion.

We have a government that has failed to mobilize a rescue package for the productive sector in order to breathe life into this economy. There is unmitigated failure on the part of government to come up with a solution to rescue this abysmal situation.

The policy uncertainty and inconsistencies on key programmes such indigenization and economic empowerment is not helping matters in bringing sanity and predictability, the two key factors for economic stability.

There is an acute lack of investor confidence and support by development partners, driven by the legitimacy crisis, as well as a ballooning debt which remains unserviced. Without legitimacy, the country remains exposed to risk and uncertainty, two factors that determine investment and economic progress.

The government simply has run out of ideas, even in the wake of shrinking revenue collections as a result of a diminishing base. The purported economic blueprint, ZimAsset, needs funding to the tune of $27 billion, and this at time when we have failed to fund an annual budget that needed around $4 billion.

The ZimAsset programme, supposedly the panacea to our economic success, has failed to attract any funding whatsoever.

Our grim economic plight as a people would have been surmountable had there been a credible election last year, even if it had meant a genuine and fair loss by the MDC-T.

The business sector has been crippled and shackled by a biting liquidity crunch, creating a gridlock that has negatively affected commerce and the services sector.

Do nations fail due to the inflexibility of mindsets and do nations succeed due to the flexibility attitudes? True and honest leaders should know that at any particular time, the success and failure of nations can only be located in the mindset of the national leadership in the seat of government.

Lastly, despite all our shortcomings, I believe a sunrise is possible and the dawn must start within our well-meaning selves.

Despite Africa’s investment attractiveness and a rising appetite for African products across the world, Zimbabwe has missed out on this emerging optimism on Africa that would have done wonders for our economy.

A man greatly misunderstood

As the leader of a great people’s movement, the MDC, and with a mandate derived directly from the people, it is my desire to drive this struggle to its logical conclusion.

But I am saddened by the preoccupation with false narratives that are meant to divert us from the real problems facing the people. One such preoccupation is the pursuit of the issue of my assumed weakness with women.

After my wife died in an accident back in 2009, life has not been easy going– that fateful day will not leave me. But despite sad experiences, life continues.

As you all know, due to extensive publicity in the media with respect to my relationships with women, an attempt has been made to portray my perceived errors to be the sum total of who I am.

It is possible after such a loss for one to be on an emotional roller coaster. This becomes more acute as one grapples with the adjustment to a life without a partner who anchored you socially, at the same time laden with the burden of national responsibility to address an intricate national crisis.

As a leader, I have come to terms with the nature of public office as requiring public accountability. I am continuing to reflect and strive to live up to those high expectations. I have fought for the proliferation of media in Zimbabwe, as I am a firm believer in the necessity of the checks and balances that the media provide.

I have since moved on and now share a commitment with my wife, Elizabeth. I have taken ownership of my responsibilities, which I continue to meet within my resources.

The other false narrative is that I want to die in office. I will state unequivocally that I have no intention of staying a day longer at the helm of the MDC without the people’s mandate.

But I will also pronounce, with the same vigour and vehemence, that I will not be hounded out undemocratically through a hostile take-over outside a people’s process called a party Congress.

We cannot be self-contradictory as to claim to be democrats when at the same time we want to remove elected leadership through a coup de tat . Our national council has taken a position to bring forward our party Congress from 2016 to October this year. It is at that platform where all positions, including the Presidency, are open for contestation and I urge fellow party members to understand that it is that forum that elects and removes leaders.
Party members know that even the Presidency is open for contestation by any nominated member and I make a guarantee that no one will be stopped from contesting for any position because we are a democratic Party.

Our international Relations

The current national reality is that we are isolated from meaningful investment capital flow and substantial development financial assistance.
Zanu PF’s narrowly focused and confined “Look East” policy has not yielded direct fiscal support.

We have had a myopic foreign policy that overlooks the significance of the broader international community, thereby underplaying the potential of leveraging international relationships in a broad sense.
We must once again rejoin the family of nations, in its wide scope, in mutually beneficial relationships, but largely driven, on our part, by the desire to enhance and further the interest of the ordinary citizen of this country.

Zimbabwe needs friends, strategic partners and promoters across the breath of the international community. Our international relations, even at the regional level, require fixing.

We have been consistently inconsistent for so long that there are not many takers supporting our plans for the way forward. The safest bet is to shift our mindset towards new thinking and new pronouncements that are inclined towards mutually beneficial policies.

My Vision

I envision a new Zimbabwe.

I see a great nation rising from the ashes of Zanu PF misrule. I see the realization of our promise for a better future for our children and our great grandchildren in a land full of happiness and abundance.

I see the possibility of reconciliation of all peoples; a nation working together in resolving its confidence crisis.
I envision a Zimbabwe with a new ethos, where people live in peaceful co-existence regardless of their cultural, ethnic, racial, religious or political differences.

Given our traumatic past, we must learn to tolerate and reconcile with each other; to draw a line in the sand and say never again should any citizen be slaughtered on ethnic, racial, political or any other grounds for that matter. We must be an inclusive, united society that is ready to swim or sink together, where diversity is celebrated rather than punished.

It is the celebration of our differences that will ultimately make our democracy hold.

In the new Zimbabwe, there will be no compromise on the dignity of the citizen, which, thankfully, is now enshrined in our Constitution. All citizens must enjoy the true meaning of life by being treated equally by government and all state institution. The equality and dignity of all citizens will be the cornerstone of our democracy in the new Zimbabwe.

We aspire for a Zimbabwe characterized by economic prosperity, with notable increases of GDP and individual income levels. A country with increased productivity through strategic investment partnerships in the agricultural, manufacturing and mining sectors; productivity that will ultimately benefit the ordinary citizen.

I envision a new Zimbabwe with a modernized transport infrastructure that includes the resuscitation of the competitiveness of our national airline. We need to invest in upgrading our airports to promote commerce, trade and tourism.

I see a new Zimbabwe where the participation of women and the youth in mainstream economic activities is guaranteed and encouraged.

We aspire for a new nation with an accountable government; a country where a prosperous economy prevails underpinned by the rule of law, political stability, policy consistency and predictability.
We must build a corrupt-free Zimbabwe with a government that is at the forefront of aggressively tackling systemic graft and dismantling the rise of unjust scales.

An efficient public service is the cornerstone of an efficient government.

There is need in the new society we envisage to de-politicize the public service; to harness efficiencies and new competences as well as implementing institutional transformation to prepare public institutions with the onerous role to efficiently serve the people of Zimbabwe.
Efficient social service delivery will engender happiness among our citizens by ensuring the provision of affordable and qualitative clean water, healthcare and education across the nation.

We strongly believe in the sacred commitment to our liberation war and democratic struggle heroes and heroines. I pledge that these will be fully recognized as the champions of our country’s important struggles and mechanisms will be put in place not only to celebrate and honour them, but to respond to their family and welfare needs through sustainable means.

Way forward

In January this year, I made a state of the nation address in which I spoke of the need for dialogue to address the debilitating economic and social crisis that we face.

I notice the emerging consensus on my call for dialogue. The same call has been made by international institutions, Cabinet Ministers, economists and civic society.
Given our current economic paralysis, that national conversation to rescue the nation has become more urgent than ever before.

There is an urgent imperative for a national conversation of more players than just political parties. The important aspect is that our dialogue must this time be broadened to include the trade unions, the church, students, industry and other stakeholders.

The broad spectrum of stakeholders in that important dialogue must discuss, find consensus and map the way forward on the current economic crisis, the endemic poverty across the length and breadth of the nation and the massive unemployment in the country.

Those outside of our struggle who are impatient for a solution outside of well-meaning dialogue must recognize that democracy without stability leads to nowhere, but equally, stability without democracy and dialogue cannot lead to national prosperity.

Lastly, we have walked this tortuous road together. We bear permanent scars from this our tenacious quest for peace, prosperity and development in the country of our birth.

Zimbabwe is the only country we have.

Zimbabweans bear testimony to my personal desire to see the fruition of the people’s struggle for positive change.

I cannot even begin to count the personal loss to each one of us in our pursuit of happiness, democracy, stability and prosperity in a new Zimbabwe.

I know only too well what it means to be a true patriot driven only by the desire for a prosperous, democratic nation.

For I too have borne the brunt of repression as a reward for my unstinting patriotism. I have been beaten up in a police station and faced serious trumped up charges, lost a loved one and endured the loss of so many cadres in this tortuous journey towards our democratic transformation.

But beyond our painful collective national experience lies a new country with new hope and abundant opportunities. The sunset of our struggle will lead to a sunrise of abundance and success.

In spite of our deep scars, we shall persevere to the very end.

We are a heroic people.

We will certainly outlive our current setbacks and the dark and traumatic experience of political violence, our burnt houses, the rapes and the murders we have suffered along this painful road. They have failed to break our collective spirit.

I have no doubt in my mind that regardless of how long it may take, we shall eventually overcome and cry the tears of joy.

PTUZ Speaks On Whether Teachers Will Report For Duty

By A Correspondent- The President of the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ), Dr Takavafira Zhou has said the union’s members decide the course of action and the best way forward on whether to report for work or not.

He speaks after reports that he had encouraged PTUZ members to report for work this Monday. Since the 7th of February when schools resumed, some teachers have not been reporting for duty saying they are incapacitated despite the government increasing their salaries by 20 per cent and offering US$100.

In response to the industrial action, the employer suspended those participating for three months without pay leaving many confused. Some are for the continuation of the strike while some are considering going to work. Pindula News presents Zhou’s statement:

PTUZ Members Decide Course of Action and Best Way Forward not Leaders

My phone has been inundated since morning by PTUZ members over a malicious Sunday Mail report that I have said PTUZ members are reporting for work tomorrow (Monday 14 February 2022). For the record, I never said that, but indeed I spoke to a Sunday Mail reporter by the name of Debra. I indicated to her that PTUZ leaders are conveyor belts that communicate what members would have agreed on.

I unequivocally indicated to her that even if some teachers are willing to report for work I did not see how they could do that as they are incapacitated. I also reiterated that govt must have offered teachers a rescue package to afford them to report for work whilst they are waiting for the next payday as they are virtually incapacitated. Never in our discussion did I usurp members’ rights to decide a course of action collectively.

By way of this communique, I also request provincial chairpersons to swiftly collate provincial reports on members’ input and suggestions on the best way forward. My only candid advice is that members must be guided by PTUZ philosophy of making maximum gains and minimum losses.

Any genuine struggle has casualties and we must be able to know our weaknesses and strengths as well as the weaknesses and strengths of the govt in order to fight a thousand battles without losing one. The uniform of a guerilla is the colour of his/her enemy.
Venceremos.

Fierce Boardroom Fight Haunts POSB

By A Correspondent- A fierce boardroom fight has erupted at the People’s Own Savings Bank (POSB) over retired chief executive officer Admore Kandlela’s decision to hold on to the job despite having been paid lucrative terminal benefits.

Highly placed sources within the POSB management and board this told NewZimbabwe.com Kandlela’s bid to remain on the position is being viciously resisted by some board members and senior management at the bank.

The sources also said Kandlela is currently in the middle of negotiating a new lucrative contract in a development that has ruffled furthers at the institution.

“Kandlela was due to go on retirement as far back as 2013, however through political connections his employment contract kept on being extended since then. Just recently, he was paid all his terminal benefits. He even took with him almost brand-new vehicles which he used during his last tenure,” a source said.

“We were surprised in the last few weeks to unearth that Kandlela is in the midst of negotiating a fresh employment contract and from my understanding, he is set to receive new vehicles and other benefits. This is worrisome since it will elbow out other contestants who are hoping to get the job,” the source said.

The source further alleged Kandlela has been frequenting the CEO’s offices in the last few weeks prompting many to suspect that he has bounced back.

“Information doing the rounds at POSB is that that some high level officials within the finance ministry are backing his comeback as he is seen as a good linkage ahead of the bank’s privatisation amid suspicion that some politically heavyweights want to usurp controlling stake,” added the source.

According to the source, these developments have riled a section of the management and the board, hence the emergence of deep division which, if not dealt with urgently, could plunge the institution into a crisis.

Contacted for comment Kandlela said he was still below the legally acknowledged retirement age.

“I am still below retirement age,” he said, adding: “What a pity. This post is being advertised in the press. Watch out this coming week and apply for the post please. It’s being advertised through Proserve for these complaining younger candidates. There are no unnecessary additions. I am still below retirement age.”

Further quizzed on the rationale behind the bank’s move to advertise a post whose candidate has already been identified, Kandlela quipped: “You need better facts face to face. What paper is this?  Why are you afraid of a face-to-face meeting?” he said.

“It’s Informed By Earnings”: RBZ Governor John Mangudya Defends Bank Withdrawal Limits

By A Correspondent- Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor John Mangudya defended bank withdrawal limits announced on Monday last week, saying the new levels were above average formal sector salaries.

This comes after criticism from stakeholders including a former finance minister, Tendai Biti, who said Mangudya was using the withdrawal limit to block access to the Zimbabwean dollar as a means to control inflation.

Florence Taruvinga, the president of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) said the increase was insignificant.

She said:

The nominal increase, while welcome, is not adequate as the percentage increase is below the annual inflation rate, which implies that in real terms there was no increase.

Exports and remittances have increased quite markedly over the period, 2020 to 2021 for instance, exports rose from US$3.7 billion in 2020 to US$6.2 billion in 2021, while remittances rose from US$1 billion in 2020 to US$1.4 billion in 2021.

Mangudya set new mobile banking limits per transaction of ZW$25 000 and ZW$10 000 for person-to-business and person-to-person transactions, respectively.

Previously, the limits were ZW$20 000 and ZW$5 000, respectively.

The maximum limit for individual-to-business transactions was set at ZW$100 000 per week while the person-to-person transfer limit was set at ZW$70 000 per week.

Speaking at an event organised by the Zimbabwe Economic Society to review the MPS, Mangudya said in arriving at the limits, the bank was informed by average salaries.

He said:

We were of the view, and we are still convinced, that the figures which are there are quite high.

If you look at the average salaries in Zimbabwe, they aren’t all that high.

How many people are earning more than ZW$50 000 or ZW$60 000 in the general economy?

They are not as many as you think they are. So, we looked at the general salaries in the market.

He said ZW$100 000 is equated to US$417, using a parallel market rate of US$1:$240. A salary of ZW$50 000 or ZW$60 000 translates to US$208 or US$250, respectively.

Mangudya added that RBZ will be monitoring the numbers and adjusting the limits accordingly.

He said the limits were also meant to limit foreign currency parallel market activities.

While the new limits were based on average salaries in the formal sector, about 60% of Zimbabwe’s economy is now in the informal sector, which is rarely considered in government planning.

ED Admin Closely Monitoring Chamisa, Hichilema Relations

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration is closely monitoring Nelson Chamisa, the leader of opposition Citizens Coalition for Change and Zambia’s president Hakainde Hichilema’s relations, a local publication reported.

Ziyambi Ziyambi Haule To Court Over High Court Fees

By A Correspondent- A Chivhu-based cleric Abinel Mukaro has dragged Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi and Attorney-General Prince Machaya to the High Court over “unreasonable” court fees, which he said impeded people from accessing justice.

Mukaro is challenging Statutory Instrument 221 of 2020, which he says was unconstitutional as it infringes on his right to equal benefits from the law as well as his right to access courts.

In his founding affidavit, Mukaro said his wife died on September 12, 2021 after being severely assaulted by members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) stationed in Chivhu, and gave notice of intention to sue the police and proceeded to issue summons.

He said he was instructed to be ready to pay the Registrar of the Court 1% of the amount that he was claiming, which amounted to $10 266 for service of the summons.

“I cannot afford these fees due to my precarious financial position, but I believe I am entitled to have my case heard by the court and I do not believe or qualify to be represented as a pauper nor would I want to,” Mukaro said.

“I am advised that Ziyambi, in terms of section 57 of the High Court Act, fixes fees that are payable to the Registrar for issuing of process.

“The High Court (Fees) (Civil Cases) Regulations, 1992 published in the High Court (Fees) (Civil Cases) (Amendment) Rules, 2020 (No 11) entitles the Registrar to charge an extra 1% for issuing summons where the claim sounds in money. This is in addition to the fees payable under item 1, which is $1 000. I believe that there is no basis or rationale, for charging the extra 1% as I am advised that the duties of the Registrar are the same in respect to actions whether sounding in money or not.

“I am advised that section 56(1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe provides that ‘All persons are equal before the law and have the right to equal protection and benefit of the law’. I believe requiring me to pay 1% of the amount that I am claiming in a wrongful death action infringes and deprives me of my right to equal benefit of the law.”

He said SI 211 of 2020 was, therefore, unconstitutional.

“I am humbly praying that the registrars entitlement to be paid 1% of a  claim sounding in money be declared unconstitutional and that item 2 of item two of the High Court (Fees) (Civil Cases) Regulations 1999 published in the High Court (Fees) (Civil Cases) Amendment rules 2020 Statutory Instrument 211 of 2020 (No 11) be set aside,” Mukaro said.

Ziyambi and Machaya are yet to respond to the application.

ED Fires Warning Shots At Divisive Elements

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has warned divisive elements within Zanu-PF that “it is cold out there” as factionalism continues to rock his party ahead of the March 26 by-elections.

Zanu-PF loves peace.

Political analyst Eldred Masunungure said: “Assuming it was not a miss of the tongue, that is staggeringly shocking and yet unwittingly true, especially from a regime that consistently seeks to distance itself in word and deed from the so-called first
republic.”

“CCC has gone viral and has caused Zanu-PF and Mnangagwa to go on panic mode.

No party stays in power forever regardless of what it is doing,” he said.-Newsday

WATCH: State Snakes Waiting To Strike Chamisa

In October 2020, Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, George Charamba mocked CCC leader Chamisa for leading a fractured MDC Alliance, and said he will soon be squeezed in by state infiltrarors.

At a time when an announced murder plot has resulted in the Human Rights Watch Director, Dewa Mavhinga dying under unexplained circumstances, this is 12 minutes, part of a 4 year investigation over Zim state agents who are waiting to hit CCC President Nelson Chamisa. It reveals a syndicate currently involved in fundraising for Chamisa under the guise of citizen support, while at the same time assembling to ambush Zimbabwe’s most popular politician’s organisation with a litany of false charges, ranging from sexual misconduct, to the worst which is terorrism. This way Chamisa will either be slowed down, or be stopped totally.

In October 2020, Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, George Charamba mocked Chamisa for leading a fractured MDC Alliance, and said he will soon be squeezed in by state infiltrarors.

He said: ” Clearly both the young man and all those around him, all of them barely sharper than a mallet by way of intellect and analysis, thought silence in politics means nothing, however brooding and foreboding!

“And looking into the crystal ball? Well, Chamisa

“…set to bleed terminally, both from internal injuries & from external blows. After this analysis has settled, & all those who think can yell and bark angrily for him are done, I will come back on the external blows that await him, mortal blows at that. Good evening maComrades!”

Zanu PF Aspiring MP Threatens Violence Against Chamisa, Investors

By-Zanu PF aspiring MP for Binga North, Kudakwashe Munsaka, has allegedly threatened an International Anti-Poaching Foundation (IAPF) investor he accuses of funding the opposition party in the area.It is alleged that the Binga Rural District Council (RDC) intervened and begged the investor to stay.
“The Binga North aspiring MP threatened IAPF, which has a project in the Sinamsanga
community.
“The investor had threatened to leave the area resulting in the (Binga) RDC engaging them,” the source said.
Ward councillor Voice Munsaka confirmed the developments.
“Kudakwashe came to my ward where the investor was working and verbally attacked the workers there.
“The workers were questioned, including a recalled councillor Margret Valley, who works there. She is now an aspiring candidate for Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC),” Musanka said.
“Kudakwashe was accusing the investor of supporting the CCC candidate. The investor has a scholarship programme for schoolchildren.
“Last year, 125 students were selected in Binga, and this year the investor intended to award scholarships to at least 200 students.”
He said Kudakwashe claimed that the scholarship programme was benefiting children of members of the CCC party.
“The issue with the investor was resolved. But Kudakwashe went on to impound illegal fishing boats in the area,” he said.
Binga DCC Land Kabome said the issue being raised was petty.
“It was just a petty issue. Call me later,” Kabome said, but his number was no longer reachable.
Kudakwashe said: “I do not have much to say except that I did not threaten anyone. Valley is not an IAPF member, but a CCC activist.”
In 2019 Binga district development co-ordinator Lydia Banda-Ndethi was redeployed to Bulawayo following accusations that she has been working with non-governmental organisations and opposition councillors in the area without clearance.
Ndethi was then demoted for allegedly boycotting a function which was attended by Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga.

Prophet Predicts Chamisa Election Victory

By Farai D Hove | A west African prophet has delivered an oracle saying ZANU PF President Emerson Mnangagwa faces imminent death.

Ngarivhume Involved In Car Accident With 2 Identical Speeding Vehicles | FULL TEXT

Transform Zimbabwe President Jacob Ngarivhume updates Zimbabweans on how he was squeezed in by two identical cars, an accident that happened before the two identical vehicles sped off without stopping.

By Jacob Ngarivhume | I was involved in a bizarre accident this afternoon near Bora, Murewa. As I was driving towards Harare, a Honda Fit in front of me suddenly stopped in the middle of the road, I applied emergency brakes and stopped behind him.

Meanwhile there was another Honda Fit coming in my direction, he was speeding and coming towards me. I managed to just avoid him and we side swiped, damaging my review mirror.
Interestingly both Honda Fit vehicles were similar in make, colour and all. None of the two cars stopped, the one in front took a left turn and sped off and the one I side swiped with did not stop either.
In the abandance of precaution I decided to continue my drive to hare as well and only filed a police report at Waterfalls police who referred me to Mbare police.
In the last couple of days I was interacting with school children from the Mashonaland Provinces. I will post details of the tours later.

Mnangagwa Stalks Hichilema, Chamisa

By- President Emmerson Mnangagwa is stalking Zambia President Hakainde Hichilema and opposition Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa relations.

Mnangagwa Dying, Says Prophet

By Farai D Hove | A west African prophet has delivered an oracle saying ZANU PF President Emerson Mnangagwa faces imminent death.

Mnangagwa Sweats Over President Chamisa’s Rising Popularity

Tinashe Sambiri|Citizens’ Coalition For Change spokesperson, Advocate Fadzayi Mahere has pointed out that the Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa is in panic mode due to President Nelson Chamisa’s ascending popularity.

Addressing Zanu PF supporters at a rally in Epworth on Saturday, Mr Mnangagwa boasted : “Endai muudze veopposition kuti munhu arimuHarare akatanga kufamba kuenda kuChina netsoka anotanga kusvika opposition isati yapinda muState House.”

Advocate Mahere responded:
“This is panic-mode of the highest order. The citizens will decide who gets into State House. If the citizens choose him, President @nelsonchamisa will lead whether they like it or not. Only those afraid of the people would make unconstitutional statements like this.”

Citizens’ Coalition For Change vice chairperson Hon Job Sikhala said Zanu PF forced thousands of dejected citizens to attend Mr Mnangagwa’s rally.

“We don’t force people into buses to attend our rallies. I met 2 ZUPCO buses here at Nyamweda Shopping Centre in Mhondoro looking for people to go to the Old People’s home Rally in Harare.Ndiyo inonzi desperation.”

Citizens’ Coalition For Change Youth Assembly spokesperson Stephen Sarkozy Chuma tweeted:
“So @edmnangagwa and his corrupt officials chose one of the poorest settlements, Epworth to showcase their ill gotten affluence. Epworth is a pure reflection of ZANU PF plunder & 42 year mismanagement. No proper roads, no running water, no electricity etc. Choose #CCC.”

Mavaza Says: Opposition Parties Will Struggle To Win

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | On December 10, 1963, Zanzibar achieved independence as a member of the Commonwealth. … Sheikh Abeid Amani Karume, leader of the ASP, was installed as president tof the People’s Republic of Zanzibar and Pemba Julius Nyerere, independence leader and “baba wa taifa” for Tanganyika (father of the Tanganyika nation), ruled the country for 23 years while Abeid Amaan Karume, governed Zanzibar as its president and Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania.

Victor Matemadanda and Dr Masimba Mavaza in studio

Since 1962 his political party the Chamachamapinduzi has been in power. Every election the party is re-elected and the opposition has failed to penetrate.

Angola achieved independence in 1975 through the Alvor Agreement. After independence, Angola entered a long period of civil war that lasted until 2002.

The Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) has ruled Angola since independence in 1975. From 1975 to 1991, it was the sole legally existing party in a political system inspired by the model then practised by the socialist countries of Eastern Europe. The MPLA fought against the Portuguese army in the Angolan War of Independence from 1961 to 1974, and defeated the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) and the National Liberation Front of Angola (FNLA) in the Angolan Civil War. The party has ruled Angola since the country’s independence from Portugal in 1975, being the de facto government throughout the civil war and the ruling since its end.

The Mozambican War of Independence was an armed conflict between the guerrilla forces of the Mozambique Liberation Front or FRELIMO and Portugal. The war officially started on September 25, 1964, and ended with a ceasefire on September 8, 1974, resulting in a negotiated independence in 1975. Frelimo has been in office since then..

September 6, 1968-April 11, 1973): The British protectorate of Swaziland formally achieved its independence from the United Kingdom on September 6, 1968. Since then the opposition has ruled from a from a distance.
Over the last four decades there’s been some progress towards institutionalising multiparty democracy in sub-Saharan Africa. Despite these elections in the region rarely result in changes of government
A recent survey by Afrobarometer – a non-partisan African research network confirmed sheds some light on why this is the case.

In Africa the opposition parties face major obstacles to winning majority support. These include the fact that they aren’t trusted as much as governing parties and that very often they aren’t seen as a viable alternative to the dominant ruling party. They are normally there to make money a feat which horrifies the electorate.

Most countries which are governed by parties that emerged from liberation movements and have been in power for decades since independence do not have opposition posing a threat at all. Although some of these incumbents have lost some electoral support in recent years, opposition support has not been high enough to unseat them.

In Namibia and Mozambique levels of trust in opposition parties were found to be at the highest levels ever. But in Zimbabwe trust in the political opposition declined sharply after 2008/2009. Similarly, the proportion of Zimbabweans who said they felt “close to” an opposition party dropped from 45% in 2009 to 19% in 2014 said African barometer a survey organisation.

Take the example of Botswana. The Botswana Democratic Party, in power since independence in 1966, is the region’s most enduring dominant party. It has even adopted the slogan “*There is still no alternative”.*
After losing an election, opposition parties should monitor and criticise the government in order to hold it accountable. This is how democracy should work.

Once an election is over, opposition parties and politicians should accept defeat and cooperate with the government to develop the country potential voters if they are seen to be constantly criticising the ruling party rather than contributing to the country’s development. Opposition parties might do better if they highlight their policy platforms and gain citizen confidence in their plans.

So in short despite the noise they make the opposition is not yet ready to govern.
It is true that the opposition will take very long before they can be trusted with power.
Democracy is not seen in the changes of political parties. Countries which are labelled as examples of democracy in Africa have had one party ruling since independence.

These are countries lime Botswana, Mozambique,Tanzania and South Africa.

So for for the CCC they can make as much noise as possible but ZANU PF is here to stay.

Ginimbi Snake Money Doesn’t Exist

Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure’s ex-wife, Zodwa Mkandla has responded to claims that the late popular socialite and millionaire used witchcraft to get his riches.

Zodwa and her hubby, the late Ginimbi

On YouTube show City Girls with Tebogo Thobejane on Tuesday, 8 February, the businesswoman said Ginimbi was a hard worker who never used witchcraft, but believed in God.

People in Mzansi learnt about him when he died in a shocking car crash in 2020. He was accused of using witchcraft and of having a snake to get his wealth.

Tebogo asked Zodwa, who was married to Ginimbi for 10 years before they split in 2017, about the claims.

“There’s a lot of allegations about particularly the practices of witchcraft, that Genius had a snake that gave him riches,” said Tebogo.

Zodwa quickly responded, saying: “Do you believe a snake can give you money? If there’s a snake that could vomit money like people claim, I’m sure all of you would find your own snakes. Why I’m saying that is because there’s no snake that vomits money.

“If a snake came right now here and vomits money, I’d want to see the person who’s going to remain picking the money. I lived with that man for 10 years, I’ve never seen a snake. Maybe I’m the snake, but I never saw any.”

She said Ginimbi only knew God and never practised witchcraft.

“The only thing that Genius knew was God. For the years I’ve known him, he used to go to church with me and things like that. I don’t know anything about witchcraft, there is no witchcraft,” she said.

She also clarified the rumours that Ginimbi knew he was going to die and that’s why he bought himself a coffin a week before he died.

He was buried in a Versace coffin.

“That is not true, guys. That coffin was bought by his friend, Honourable Minister Tino Machakaire. It is taboo in our culture to buy a coffin before you pass on,” Zodwa said. -Daily Sun

Red-Eyed ZANU PF Candidate Accuses Investor Of Funding Chamisa

AN aspiring Zanu PF Binga North Member of Parliament, Kudakwashe Munsaka, has allegedly threatened an International Anti-Poaching Foundation (IAPF) investor he accuses of funding the opposition party in the area.

It is alleged that the Binga Rural District Council (RDC) intervened and begged the investor to stay.

-Newsday

ZEC Moves 170,000 Voters

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has been accused of illegally moving 170 000 voters from their original constituencies and wards in the voters roll to be used for the March 26 by-elections in a move which activists say could affect the credibility of the polls.

Priscilla Chigumba

Activists, Team Pachedu, which has been analysing the voters roll for the by-elections in comparison with the one used in the 2018 polls, expressed concern over the anomalies, saying Zec was illegally changing electoral boundaries without notifying voters as stipulated by the law, a move which critics say would disenfranchise voters.

Team Pachedu said a total of 170 867 addresses that were in the 2018 voters roll have been edited by Zec between 2018 and 2022, with Glen View South having the highest number of edited addresses (19 758), followed by Mangwe, Lupane East, Zaka East, Luveve, Kuwadzana and Chiredzi North.

“Zec has also moved many people from Glen View South constituency to Harare South constituency. The mass movement of voters across constituencies and wards when addresses have not changed implies that Zec is illegally changing electoral boundaries,” Team Pachedu said on Twitter.

“One typical illegal movement involves hundreds of voters from Zvimba East to Glen View South (Chirangano Car Park Tent).

“For multiple voters in Chitungwiza South constituency, Zec has changed their former 2018 wards, yet their residential addresses have not changed at all. Who did Zec inform before making these sweeping changes in wards as required by the law?

“After the 2018 elections, Zec created new polling stations and some of them are 6301HRE2807 C, Glen Norah (728 voters), 6301HRE3103 C, Glenview South (671 voters), 6301HRE3202 C, Glen View South (669 voters) and 5801KWE1402 C, Kwekwe Central (669) without informing anyone as required by the law.”

Chief elections officer, Utoile Silaigwana yesterday told NewsDay that citizens or organisations affected by the changes should approach Zec district offices.

“Can we see the claims because we haven’t received any complaints to date? You are very aware that the voter registration exercise is still underway, and so we can only have the correct information when it has been completed,” Silaigwana said.

On its official Twitter handle, Zec stated: “Polling stations are allocated according to proof of residence furnished by the voter. A voter has an option to transfer his/her registration to an area of preference provided they submit the requisite documents.”

Zimbabwe Election Support Network board chairperson Andrew Makoni said the trends were worrying as it could disenfranchise voters.

“Yes, it disfranchises voters as many will fail to vote because their wards have changed. Only Zec can provide the reasons why some voters may have been moved from one constituency to the other, and in this case from Glen View to Harare South as alleged.

“However, it is possible for a voter to change his ward or constituency if, for example, they migrate from one ward or constituency. In that case, it is the voter who approaches Zec seeking a transfer. Zec cannot do so on its own.”

Elections Resource Centre programmes manager Solomon Bobosibunu said: “We are in the process of analysing the voters roll and will shortly be able to comment on the alleged movement.

“On the overall, registered voters cannot be changed without their consent. There must be an explanation as to why those changes were effected without the knowledge of the voters. If these are true, they damage the credibility of the voters roll and ultimately the outcome of the election.”

Citizens Coalition for Change treasurer-general David Coltart said the anomalies in the voters roll were not surprising as it was clear that it was creating a pathway for rigging of elections.

He said there was need for Zec to be independent and free from the ruling Zanu PF party and military control such that it retains the ability to carry out its electoral mandate as a national body.

“I am not surprised. The reason Zanu PF was happy to have by-elections now was because it knows the results are easier to manipulate. Through its proxies in Zec, they can manipulate the voters roll to ‘import’ voters from constituencies which do not have an election to those which do,” Coltart said.

“On election day, it is easy to bus those voters in because there won’t be observers. So if discrepancies are found, it will be part of this grand scheme to subvert the will of the electorate in the coming by-elections.” -Newsday

Dealing With Sexual Exploitation

Tackling Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment

Sexual exploitation & abuse (SEA) of the communities we serve is a grave violation of WHO’s commitment to serve and protect the vulnerable.

Sexual harassment (SH) of our workforce is a serious failure of our duty of care. This is the sentiment of WHO’s leadership, staff and her Member States. But we all know and acknowledge that more could and should be done. And done quickly. The risks of SEA have increased significantly in recent years.

WHO is increasingly operational, being called on to operate to save lives and minimize death, disease and suffering in our health programmes and emergency response operations. Our work in countries of fragility, conflict and vulnerability increase the risk of exploitation.

We work with UN agencies and NGOs to address these risks jointly, and aim to meet the standards set by WHO’s own policies and Code of ethics and professional conduct as well as meet the requirements and expectations set by the UN system and IASC partners.

WHO is scaling up its efforts to do everything in its power to prevent and protect from SEAH. Everyone – staff, consultants, suppliers, partners – has an obligation to report any suspected events that may constitute SEAH.

Police Arrest ZIFA Boss

Suspended Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president Felton Kamambo and board member responsible for finance, Philemon Machana, have been arrested on various allegations.

Kamambo and Machana were on Saturday arrested by Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers for fraud and contempt of the Sports and Recreation Commission Act, which was applied in their suspension on 16 November 2021.

The SRC suspended the Kamambo-led ZIFA last November on several allegations, chief among them the board’s failure to account for public funds.

The commission acted in accordance with section 30 of the SRC Act.

Kamambo, however, continued to issue statements in the capacity of ZIFA president and used the official ZIFA letterhead in all his correspondence.

It is further alleged that Kamambo fraudulently used public funds as well as changed ZIFA accounts while under suspension.

The suspended ZIFA board even went on to suspended members of the ZIFA secretariat and Premier Soccer League governors, moves which resulted in the SRC involving the police leading to the duo’s arrest.

Mahere Dismisses Mnangagwa Rhetoric

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said opposition political parties will never rule Zimbabwe.

Mnangagwa was addressing ZANU PF supporters who were gathered at Epworth High School grounds for the party’s by-election campaign rally on Saturday.

Mnangagwa claimed that some opposition leaders in Zimbabwe were telling their supporters that it is possible to unseat ZANU PF like what Hakainde Hichilema’s opposition party did in Zambia in 2021. He said:

Endai muudze veopposition kuti munhu arimuHarare akatanga kufamba kuenda kuChina netsoka anotanga kusvika opposition isati yapinda muState House.

Go and tell them that a person walking from Harare to China will arrive faster than opposition parties trying to get to State House in Harare. It’s not going to happen.

However, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere dismissed Mnangagwa’s comments saying only the people of Zimbabwe have the right to elect people of their choice.

Mnangagwa assured residents of Epworth and surrounding areas that his government is in the process of giving them title deeds. He said:

We sourced funds and gave them to Professor Murwira’s ministry to carry out a geospatial survey. We have completed the survey and will build flats.

We will move those who built on roads to the flats because we cannot move someone into the open.

Once you get hold of your title deed, you have security for your land. It becomes your inheritance.

This will ultimately do away with land barons. So we are in this process of regularising settlements as well as issuing title deeds.- VOA
