Hubby Bans Wife From Social Media For 3 Years

A Harare woman has sought a protection order against her husband of 25 years for domestic abuse which includes banning her from using social media for the past three years.

Dennyse Banda told magistrate Johanna Mukwesha that her husband Taurai Banda was abusing her physically and mentally after banning her from using WhatsApp in 2020.

She accused Banda of having numerous extra-marital affairs, including one with her friend.

“He said I was discussing our affairs with my friends so he chose to start a relationship with one of my friends as a way to hurt me,” she said.

The court also heard that Taurai had moved out of the matrimonial home with five of the cars they bought together.

Banda, however, denied the allegations before accusing his wife of depriving him of his conjugal rights. He accused her of being influenced by her friends and family to disrespect him.

Mukwesha ordered Taurai to stop abusing his wife whom she granted the protection order.

Mnangagwa Stuck Installing Fiber Wires As Starlink Connects Directly To Every Person’s Cellphone Worldwide

Mnangagwa’s Fiber Optic Project Already Overtaken By Emerging Starlink Technology.

By Dorrothy Moyo | In a surprising move that contradicts global tech trends, Zimbabwean “President” Emmerson Mnangagwa has launched an ambitious fiber optic technology project, aiming for completion by 2025. The project, unveiled at Somabhula, seeks to dramatically enhance Zimbabwe’s internet connectivity by deploying over 1500 kilometers of fiber optic cables across the country.

This initiative, championed by Bandwidth & Cloud Services (BCS) Group, promises to connect remote rural communities, offering unprecedented access to internet services.

However, this development comes at a time when advancements in satellite technology may render such terrestrial infrastructures obsolete. SpaceX, the renowned space exploration company, has recently escalated its Starlink project, successfully launching six satellites designed to act as mobile phone towers in space.

This pioneering approach aims to provide ubiquitous coverage, eliminating the need for traditional ground-based internet infrastructures.

SpaceX’s latest mission saw 21 satellites aboard its Falcon 9 rocket, signifying a significant step towards offering comprehensive mobile and internet services worldwide, including in remote and oceanic regions currently beyond the reach of conventional connectivity methods. The company has outlined plans to activate texting services by 2024, followed by voice, data, and smart home services by 2025, targeting an array of countries across the globe.

Mnangagwa Starlink caricature

The Starlink project promises a seamless integration with basic cellphones, without the need for specialized equipment or wiring, challenging the very foundation of Zimbabwe’s fiber optic initiative. With the possibility of direct satellite connectivity, the requirement for extensive and costly ground infrastructure might soon become an anachronism.

Critics argue that the timing of Zimbabwe’s fiber optic project may not only be misaligned with the pace of technological evolution but also risk placing the country at a competitive disadvantage. As the world moves towards a more flexible, efficient, and cost-effective satellite-based communication paradigm, the question arises: Will Zimbabwe’s investment in fiber optic technology stand the test of time, or will it become a relic of a bygone era in the face of rapidly advancing satellite technology?

This development has sparked a debate on the foresight of national infrastructure investments and their alignment with global technological trends, underscoring the need for nations to adapt to the dynamic tech landscape to ensure sustainable and forward-looking development strategies.

ZRP: Wicknell Style Car Theft To Please Girlfriend

In an astonishing display of misguided affection and criminal behavior, Denzel Jinjikwa, a 22-year-old from Nketa suburb, made headlines in Bulawayo after his dramatic court appearance. Facing four counts of motor vehicle theft, Jinjikwa’s confession and emotional breakdown brought the court proceedings to an unexpected pause, as he wept uncontrollably, admitting his crimes were committed in an attempt to impress a series of girlfriends with joyrides in stolen cars. This modern-day “Wicknell Chivayo” styled escapade, referring to the infamous practice of flaunting wealth with questionable origins, ended in a harsh wake-up call for Jinjikwa.

During his court appearance before magistrate Sibonginkosi Mkandla, Jinjikwa could not contain his emotions, shedding tears and pleading for mercy as he confessed to the thefts. His sob story, however, did little to mitigate the severity of his actions in the eyes of the law. Jinjikwa was sentenced to four years in prison for each count of theft, with a year suspended from each sentence, culminating in an effective 12 years behind bars. This sentence reflects both his cooperation with the court by pleading guilty and the serious nature of his crimes, involving the theft of vehicles through sophisticated means.

Jinjikwa’s criminal spree included the theft of several Honda Fit cars, belonging to unsuspecting victims, including a pastor and an elderly man, using unknown objects to gain entry and start the vehicles. His actions not only deprived the owners of their means of transportation but also endangered the well-being of a minor, who he deceitfully convinced to exit her mother’s car, which he subsequently stole.

The Vehicle Theft Squad’s diligent efforts led to the recovery of the stolen vehicles and Jinjikwa’s arrest, highlighting the efficiency and effectiveness of law enforcement in dealing with such crimes. Despite Jinjikwa’s tearful remorse and his claim of never intending to permanently deprive the vehicle owners of their possessions, the magistrate’s decision underscores the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions, sending a strong message to others who might be tempted to engage in similar criminal activities.

This case not only sheds light on the lengths some individuals will go to impress others but also serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of choosing a path of criminality over honesty and integrity. Jinjikwa’s story, from a suave joyrider to a convicted car thief, is a dramatic fall from grace that will likely deter others from following in his misguided footsteps.- Agencies

Korokoza Caught In The Act

Illegal Gold Panning Lands One in Prison, Another Flees: A Tale of Crime in Zimbabwe’s Matusadonha National Park.

By Dorrothy Moyo | In a significant legal ruling, the Karoi Magistrates Court has sentenced 51-year-old Paul Mutimutema to two years in prison for illegal gold panning activities within the serene confines of Matusadonha National Park, Zimbabwe. The case, which underscores the ongoing challenges faced by the country in combating unauthorized mining activities, has drawn attention to the broader issues of environmental degradation and legal enforcement.

According to a recent statement by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Mutimutema, hailing from Siakobvu, faced charges under the Mines and Minerals Act for prospecting for gold without a valid license. His illegal venture was cut short on February 21, 2024, when Game Rangers patrolling the area intercepted him and an accomplice along the Chamba River, engaging in gold panning using basic tools such as picks, shovels, and plastic dishes.

The apprehension of Mutimutema throws a spotlight on the perilous intersection of environmental conservation and economic desperation. Matusadonha National Park, a renowned sanctuary for a diverse range of wildlife, has increasingly become a hotspot for illegal miners seeking to exploit its resources. These activities not only threaten the ecological balance of the park but also undermine the legal frameworks established to protect these natural treasures.

While Mutimutema now faces the consequences of his actions, the case is far from closed. His co-accused managed to evade capture and remains on the run, highlighting the challenges law enforcement agencies face in securing convictions against all individuals involved in such illicit enterprises. The NPAZ’s statement did not disclose the identity of the fugitive or the steps being taken to apprehend them, leaving a critical gap in the justice system’s response to illegal mining activities.

This incident is a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against illegal mining in Zimbabwe, a country blessed with abundant natural resources but plagued by economic challenges. Illegal gold panning not only poses a significant environmental threat but also robs the nation of valuable revenue that could be generated through legitimate mining operations.

As the authorities continue to clamp down on unauthorized mineral exploitation, this case serves as a cautionary tale for those contemplating similar ventures. The message from the Zimbabwean judiciary is clear: illegal mining will not be tolerated, and those caught will face the full force of the law. However, the ongoing issue of fugitives evading capture underscores the need for a more comprehensive strategy that addresses both the legal and socio-economic factors contributing to the rise in illegal mining activities.

As the story of Mutimutema’s sentencing unfolds, it prompts a broader reflection on the measures necessary to safeguard Zimbabwe’s natural heritage while ensuring that its citizens do not resort to destructive means of survival. The balance between environmental preservation and economic development remains a critical challenge for the nation, one that requires the collective efforts of law enforcement, policymakers, and the community at large.

ZRP Cop Dupes Female Job Seeker to Forced Prostitution in Oman

By Farai D Hove | In a shocking development that has brought to light a disturbing trend of human trafficking from Zimbabwe to Asia, a former Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer, Forward Mashonganyika, along with his niece Tendai Muswe, have been sentenced to 20 years in prison each for their roles in trafficking women to Oman where they were forced into sex slavery. The sentencing took place yesterday in Harare, marking a significant milestone in the fight against human trafficking in the country.

The Harare regional magistrate, Mrs. Estere Chivasa, convicted Mashonganyika and Muswe on three counts of human trafficking after a thorough trial. The first two counts were merged for the purpose of sentencing, resulting in two 10-year terms for each convict. It’s worth noting that Muswe was already serving a three-year sentence for a similar offense.

The case unfolded when the State prosecutor, Mr. Ngoni Kaseke, successfully demonstrated that in February 2022, Mashonganyika, in collusion with Muswe and an Oman-based accomplice, Hassan Mohammed Ali, deceived unsuspecting Zimbabwean women with the promise of lucrative jobs in Dubai. Instead, these women were trafficked to Oman and subjected to harrowing conditions.

The traffickers utilized a WhatsApp group to advertise nonexistent jobs, effectively baiting their victims with the allure of high-paying positions in the hotel industry and favorable working conditions. The victims, lured by these promises, were processed with visas, air tickets, and medical examination reports by Mashonganyika, who facilitated their transportation from Zimbabwe to Oman, deceitfully bypassing Dubai.

The grim reality of their situation became apparent to the victims only upon their arrival at Muscat International Airport, where they were met by Hassan Mohammed Ali al Shihhi. Their passports were seized, and they were forced into domestic servitude as house maids, enduring endless hours of work without pay, surviving on leftovers, and suffering sexual and physical abuse.

The case came to light when the victims reached out through Interpol and their relatives back in Zimbabwe, prompting an investigation that led to Mashonganyika’s arrest. Searches conducted at his residence uncovered financial transactions from Hassan Ali al Shihhi, facilitating the repatriation of the victims.

This case is a tragic reminder of the ongoing issue of human trafficking, with hundreds of young Zimbabwean women having been trafficked to Asia since 2015 under the guise of employment, only to be exploited as sex slaves. The conviction of Mashonganyika and Muswe represents a critical step towards addressing this grave human rights violation, yet it also underscores the urgent need for continued vigilance and action against human trafficking on a global scale.

Mutsvangwa Speaks On Sanctions

By A Correspondent

In a surprising turn of events, Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa, who was recently sacked as War Veterans Minister, has released a statement praising President Emmerson Mnangagwa and also commending President Joe Biden for lifting a significant portion of the executive orders that had been hindering Zimbabwe’s participation in the global economy.

Mutsvangwa’s statement, though unexpected given his recent dismissal from the government, highlights the positive impact of President Biden’s decision to revoke sanctions on Zimbabwe.

He acknowledges Biden’s courage in revisiting the issue of sanctions, particularly considering Biden’s previous involvement in sponsoring the ZIDERA Act back in 2002 as a member of the US Congress.

The Ambassador’s words convey a sense of relief and gratitude from the Zimbabwean perspective, as he emphasizes the long-standing suffering endured by the people of Zimbabwe due to the sanctions imposed by successive US administrations over nearly two decades.

Mutsvangwa’s statement reflects a hopeful outlook for the future of Zimbabwe’s relations with the United States, underpinned by a desire for peace and cooperation.

Furthermore, Mutsvangwa’s reference to ZANU PF’s mantra of being “enemy to none and friend to all” underscores the party’s commitment to fostering positive diplomatic relations and dispelling any misconceptions regarding Zimbabwe’s intentions on the global stage.

He asserts that Zimbabwe, as a relatively small and landlocked country in Africa, poses no threat to US foreign policy objectives and welcomes the opportunity for improved bilateral ties.

In conclusion, Mutsvangwa’s unexpected praise for President Biden’s decision to lift sanctions on Zimbabwe highlights the potential for diplomatic reconciliation and economic progress between the two nations.

His statement serves as a reminder of the importance of dialogue, understanding, and cooperation in resolving longstanding international disputes and promoting mutual prosperity.

Russia Endorses Zim Chaotic Polls

By A Correspondent

In a surprising development, Zimbabwe has received an invitation to observe Russia’s upcoming Presidential Elections, scheduled to take place from the 15th to the 17th of this month.

This move comes amidst ongoing concerns regarding Zimbabwe’s own electoral processes, which have been marred by controversies, chaos, and widespread contestation in recent years.

Despite facing criticism and scrutiny over the conduct of its own elections, Zimbabwe’s participation as an observer in Russia’s electoral process signals a willingness to engage with international counterparts and gain insights into democratic practices abroad.

However, it also raises questions about the credibility and impartiality of Zimbabwean observers given the challenges within their own electoral system.

Zimbabwe’s history of tumultuous elections, characterized by allegations of rigging, voter intimidation, and irregularities, has eroded confidence both domestically and internationally in the integrity of its democratic processes.

The invitation to observe Russia’s Presidential Elections presents an opportunity for Zimbabwe to learn from other nations and perhaps implement reforms to address existing deficiencies in its electoral system.

However, critics argue that Zimbabwe’s involvement in observing foreign elections while grappling with its own electoral shortcomings could be perceived as hypocritical.

They point to the need for Zimbabwean authorities to prioritize addressing internal electoral challenges and fostering transparency and accountability within the domestic electoral framework before engaging in international observation missions.

On the other hand, proponents view Zimbabwe’s participation in observing Russia’s elections as a positive step towards fostering diplomatic relations and promoting democratic norms and values on the global stage.

They argue that by actively engaging in international electoral observation efforts, Zimbabwe can contribute to promoting transparency, fairness, and credibility in electoral processes worldwide.

Zimbabwe’s invitation to observe Russia’s Presidential Elections presents both opportunities and challenges for the country’s electoral governance.

While participation in international observation missions may enhance Zimbabwe’s understanding of democratic practices and facilitate diplomatic engagement, it also underscores the need for concerted efforts to address internal electoral deficiencies and restore confidence in the credibility of Zimbabwe’s own elections.

A Strategic Approach To Mining

Investing in mining operations requires a business mindset to ensure long-term profitability and sustainability.

Here’s how to approach mining as a serious business venture:

Strategic Investment Planning:

Treat mining like any other business venture by meticulously listing required resources with exact values. Monitor expenses closely and identify viable claims nearby to minimize investment risks.

Avoid investing in distant locations unless you’re prepared to expand your investment scope to cover all production activities.

Hands-On Management:

Your presence at the mining site is indispensable. Gold nuggets ranging from 5 points to 10 kilograms can be found around Zimbabwe, but without your direct oversight, production accountability becomes challenging.

Actively involve yourself from day one, familiarize yourself with all aspects of the operation, and understand the risks and rewards involved.

Be wary of trusting family members entirely, as theft and production sabotage are common, often orchestrated by relatives.

Cost-Effective Monitoring:

Avoid unnecessary expenses on constant monitoring trips to the mine.

Instead, spend a substantial portion of your day at the site to oversee operations effectively.

Utilize public transport whenever possible and minimize hiring private transport for non-essential transactions.

If a vehicle is necessary, consider expanding your investment to accommodate it. Plan prudently, ensuring you have adequate reserves for lean periods.

Tshabangu Faces Coup

By Political Reporter- Another group within the troubled opposition CCC has initiated recalls targeting Senngezo Tshabangu and his cabal

The grouping has since recalled Tendai Biti’s former deputy Kucaca Phulu, parliament.

Pulu deputised Biti when they rebled and formed PDP.

Several Citizens Coalition for Change senators anointed by Tshabangu and sworn in parliament Tuesday have been recalled.

A letter signed by former Entumbane-Makhandeni lawmaker Dingilizwe Tshuma who claims to be the CCC chairperson working closely with Albert Mhlanga, indicates that the recalled proportional representation senators are Kucaca Phulu, Lilian Mlilo, Linda Sibanda and Collet Ndlovu. Phulu was Tshabangu’s attorney.

Speaking to Studio 7 last night, Mhlanga said, “Yes, we had a meeting where we resolved to recall them because Sengezo Tshabangu single-handedly picked former People’s Democratic Party members where he belonged with Tendai Biti and Jacob Mafume. We are CCC which was led by Nelson Chamisa so these PDP members never stopped fighting in the party from the days of the late Morgan Tvsangarai who is the former founding president of the Movement for Democratic Change.”
The four filled posts left vacant following the recalling of some lawmakers, including former Bulawayo Member of Parliament Gift Ostallos Siziba and others by Tshabangu, who still claims that he is the interim secretary general of the party.
Nelson Chamisa dumped CCC a month ago citing Zanu-PF interference.
Responding to this move, Tshabangu, who is now a senator, said, “That’s a kids play and we are above that. Parliament is a respectable institution and it ought to be given that dignified status.”
Tshabangu recalled several CCC lawmakers and councilors resulting in the holding of byelections that were won by the ruling party. The High Court barred the recalled parliamentarians to participate in the byelections held last year and early this month.

Prophet Uebert Angel’s Harry Kalaba Finally Touches A Real iPhone15 After 6 Months since Explosive Meeting With Investigative Journalist

By A Correspondent | At last, prophet Uebert Angel’s handpick for Zambia’s upcoming presidential election, Harry Kalaba (pic on the Facebook website) announces he has received an iPhone15 handset, 6 months after twice turning up for a fake one while conversing with an undercover journalist from the @AJIunit ‘s GoldMafia documentary, and Zambians are putting pressure on him to produce evidence that he has truly purchased it or it is actually from Al Jazeera or from the BBC this time, like in the previous year. The original full story published by @DiggersOfNews.

….

UKA is a new political party that Edgar Lungu’s PF entity has entered into a pact with a few other small small political parties. It stands for United Kwacha Alliance. But the word “uka” in the local Nyanja dialect also means ‘wake up.’ So here, he is telling former vice-president Nevers Mumba who has been supporting HH to wake up while at the same time using the Nevers Mumba name to shield self from prosecution (since Mumba also produced a fake video document on behalf of and protecting Emmerson Mnangagwa, Uebert Angel and the GoldMafia syndicate in general).

The original article published by Zambia’ Newsdiggers publication is as follows-

Uebert Angel’s Kalaba narrates iPhone 15 scandal as Al Jazeera journalist reveals how he trapped him

By Mwenya Mofya,
25th August 2023

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA- CITIZENS First president Harry Kalaba has admitted that he doesn’t know much about iPhones or which version is the latest on the market, but says the gentleman who embarrassed him in a shop at Levy Mall in Lusaka this week is someone whom he understood to be bringing a parcel from his UK-based friend.

But Al Jazeera “Gold Mafia” investigative journalist Simba Chikanza has narrated to News Diggers how he trapped the former Foreign Affairs minister and lured him into confessing his linkage to the Gold Mafia syndicate through his ally Prophet Uebert Angel.

Angel is a controversial Zimbabwean businessman with connections to President Emerson Mnangagwa who has been implicated in fraud, money laundering and racketeering after undercover journalists filmed him arranging to smuggle gold and cash using his diplomatic passport.

Chikanza, a UK-based journalist is one of the primary investigators involved in the Al Jazeera gold mafia investigation series that has been airing since the beginning of this year, revealing how gold smuggling gangs in Southern Africa help criminals launder hundreds of millions of dollars, getting rich themselves while plundering their nations.

In April this year, soon after the second series was aired on Al Jazeera, Kalaba released a video of himself, discrediting the findings of the investigation, and particularly distancing the acclaimed religious prophet Angel and Mnangagwa in the process.

“I think for me on the issue of the gold scam in Zimbabwe concerning President Mnangagwa and his administration and involving Ambassador Uebert Angel, I think from where I stand as former minister of Foreign Affairs for the Republic of Zambia from 2014 to 2018, it doesn’t amount to much because diplomats have to go beyond the call of duty to convince investors… So there is nothing strange in what we saw behind the scenes [in the documentary]. President Mnangagwa has to be encouraged instead of being vilified, Ambassador Uebert Angel also has to be encouraged. He is doing a lot of good for his country amidst all these challenges. So from where I stand, there is nothing strange about that documentary, only that someone had ulterior motives… From that documentary, there is no evidence to show that money was going into Ambassador Angel’s account or President Mnangagwa’s account,” claimed Kalaba.

This angered the Al Jazeera investigators, forcing Chikanza to find a way of proving that Kalaba was working in conjunction with the gold mafia.

After securing Kalaba’s number, Chikanza called him from a UK line on August 3, 2023, pretending to be a prophet named Erasmus Johnson, a friend of Prophet Angel.

He then thanked Kalaba for releasing a video in defence of prophet Angel in the gold mafia investigation, and for following the script that he was given to read.

Chikanza further asked Kalaba if he had received a DHL parcel containing a 21 carat gold coated iPhone 15 which had been sent to him in appreciation of the work he had done for prophet Angel.

According to the audio recordings and WhatsApp screenshots that Chikanza shared with News Diggers, Kalaba was amused that he had made such a significant impact in the protection of the Zimbabwean officials, saying as a son to 44-year-old Prophet Angel, he felt compelled to come to his defence.

“The man of God was in trouble and you listened to the voice of God and you stepped in, you did all you can, went through the script,” said Chikanza to Kalaba in a WhatsApp call, still pretending to be a prophet named “Erasmus Johnson”.

Chikanza: “Do you realise that this man has saved a lot of people? If you had not done that, the man of God could have been in jail right now. This is just to say thank you, but at the same time, to welcome you in the Kingdom of God”.

Kalaba: “I am really grateful prophet”

Chikanza: “You are really the man of the moment”.Kalaba: “Amen, I receive it”.Chikanza: “You are the only person who recorded those videos and spoke in those videos, following every word that prophet Angel was giving you. You saved the man of God”.Kalaba: “I didn’t know that I played such a pivotal role. I thought it was my duty as the son of the prophet to stand up to defend the reputation of my father when it was being damaged. I could use every bit of influence I have, I would rather put my influence on the line than his. So I thought I was doing all what is required of a son… I would like to get in touch with DHL Lusaka and inquire about the parcel you sent”.After the phone conversation, Kalaba asked Chikanza to send the DHL tracking number which he could use to claim the purported 21 carat gold coated iPhone 15 which had been gifted to him.Chikanza then sent him a fake tracking number which Kalaba used to try and claim the iPhone 15 from DHL Lusaka. After complaining that he had felt embarrassed claiming a parcel using a false tracking number from DHL, Kalaba asked the ‘prophet’ if indeed the iPhone 15 had been sent, to which Chikanza responded in the affirmative, but giving excuses of some mix up.Chikanza then told Kalaba that he had sent the golden iPhone 15 through some agents who would deliver it to him, who in the actual fact were police officers. After receiving the phone through a third party at a mall in Lusaka, Kalaba thanked “prophet Johnson’ for his generosity, and indicated that what he had received was a Samsung and not an iPhone 15 as promised. It was at this point that Chikanza expressed his disappointment for another mix up and asked to meet Kalaba in person so that he could deliver to him the 21 carat gold coated iPhone 15.He guided Kalaba to meet him at Levy Mall where he would give him the iPhone 15 and some new EarPods, to which Kalaba said he would rather get the money, as he did not need the hearing devices for the ‘latest iPhone’.After luring him into a mobile phone shop at Levy mall in Lusaka, Chikanza then pulled out his phone that was recording a live stream and revealed his real identity.Still unsure of what was going on, Kalaba waved into the camera, as if greeting a congregation, only to discover later that he had been trapped by an Al Jazeera investigative journalist, whose documentary he had discredited earlier in the year.Chikanza then told Kalaba that Zimbabweans were voting in an unfair election because people like him had defended and facilitated money laundering activities involving millions of dollars. But speaking when he featured on KBN TV, Thursday, Kalaba said what happened was just malice aimed at trying to destroy his image.“I was told by this gentleman whom I was communicating with before, who has connections to a friend of mine in the UK that he was going to deliver a parcel from a friend of mine. When he sent me a message, I was on my way going for a funeral. So he calls me and I tell him, ‘right now I have several engagements, I can send my driver’. He said ‘I’ve come from the UK and it’s only right that we have an audience with you so that we take a picture with you. We know you’re doing a good job in Zambia. Therefore, it will be good that we also just have interface with you because tomorrow we’re leaving’. So I said okay because you travelled this long and it’s only human that maybe I should take time and come and see you. That’s how I found myself in that situation,” he said.“When I arrived, I called him and he said I’m in this shop. That’s how I entered that shop and I was just standing because I was trying to go out. That’s when he introduced himself that ‘I’m from Aljazeera. Mr Kalaba you punched holes in the investigations we had done as Aljazeera. Are you working with gold mafias?’ All kinds of allegations were thrown at me. Quiet strange I must say. All I can tell you is that it’s just malice, cheap and doesn’t amount to nothing”.

Zimbabwe To Observe Russia’s Presidential Elections Despite Electoral Challenges at Home

Chris Mutsvangwa Breaks Silence

Mutsvangwa’s unexpected praise for President Biden’s decision to lift sanctions on Zimbabwe highlights the potential for diplomatic reconciliation and economic progress between the two nations.

His statement serves as a reminder of the importance of dialogue, understanding, and cooperation in resolving longstanding international disputes and promoting mutual prosperity.

Zvobgo Denies Opposition Supporters Access To Food Aid

By A Correspondent

In a concerning development in Masvingo Central Constituency, allegations have emerged accusing Zanu PF MP Eddison Zvobgo of denying perceived opposition supporters access to essential food aid.

The accusations suggest that those believed to be sympathetic to Advocate Nelson Chamisa, the leader of the opposition, are being specifically targeted, raising questions about the politicization of humanitarian aid in Zimbabwe.

One local resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, shed light on the situation, stating, “Mitero tobhadhara tose asi kana vopa Chibagwe nechikafu vanopa nemapato. Zvirokwazvo nhaka izhara takarima. Jehovha dai matinzwawo.”

Translated, this quote highlights the plight faced by individuals who are allegedly denied access to food aid based on their perceived political affiliation.

These allegations point to a worrying trend of using access to essential resources, such as food aid, as a tool for political manipulation and coercion. Denying aid to individuals based on their political beliefs not only violates their fundamental rights but also exacerbates the already dire humanitarian situation in the country.

In response to these allegations, Zvobgo has denied any wrongdoing, stating that aid distribution is conducted fairly and without bias.

However, the testimonies from local residents paint a different picture, indicating a systematic targeting of opposition sympathizers.

The politicization of food aid undermines the principles of impartiality and neutrality that should govern humanitarian assistance.

It further erodes trust in the government and perpetuates divisions within communities already grappling with economic hardships and political tensions.

Civil society organizations and international humanitarian agencies must closely monitor the distribution of aid in Zimbabwe to ensure that it reaches those in need regardless of their political affiliations.

Additionally, there is a pressing need for accountability mechanisms to hold accountable those responsible for exploiting aid for political gain.

As Zimbabwe continues to navigate through challenging times, it is imperative that humanitarian assistance remains untainted by political interests.

Every individual, irrespective of their political beliefs, deserves access to basic necessities to live a dignified life.

Anything less is a betrayal of the principles of humanity and solidarity that should guide us in times of crisis.

Lawyer Threatens To Bewitch State Witness

Prominent Harare attorney Linda Kovi found herself in the legal crosshairs as court charges were leveled against her on Tuesday.

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) apprehended Kovi, accusing her of obstruction of justice and attempting to intimidate witnesses involved in a separate pending case.

Appearing before Harare Magistrate Donald Ndirowei, Kovi sought bail in response to the charges brought against her.

The State, represented by Anesu Chirenje, outlined allegations that Kovi had contacted Shorai Mupunga, a key witness for the prosecution, and attempted to intimidate her into refraining from testifying in a fraud case.

Court documents revealed that Kovi allegedly issued threats to Mupunga, warning of severe consequences from a traditional healer if she continued to cooperate with authorities.

Additional accusations suggested that Kovi implored Chief Dotito, the traditional healer, to employ spiritual means against Zacc officers and court personnel handling her case. Investigating officer Elisha Chimusoro supported these claims, asserting that Kovi had menaced witnesses with potential ill fortune.

In response to the charges, Kovi contested the allegations, arguing that she lacked access to witness information and therefore could not have interfered with the proceedings. The court is expected to deliver a verdict on her bail application on Wednesday.

Background investigations into Kovi’s legal qualifications have also surfaced troubling discrepancies.

Despite claiming to have obtained a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Africa in Zambia, further scrutiny revealed inconsistencies in her credentials.

Although she graduated from the University of Africa, Lusaka, in 2019, Kovi reportedly failed multiple conversion exams necessary for legal practice in Zimbabwe.

Allegations suggest that Kovi colluded with an employee of the Council for Legal Education (CLE), paying an undisclosed sum to obtain a certificate despite failing multiple modules.

This certificate allegedly enabled her admission as a Legal Practitioner, casting a shadow over the reputation of the Council for Legal Education.

Using what is now believed to be a misrepresented qualification, Kovi petitioned the High Court for admission as a legal practitioner, subsequently gaining entry under false pretenses.

Dog-Eat-Dog In CCC As Tshabangu Senators Recalled From Parliament

By Political Reporter- There is fresh chaos in the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change following the recall of four senators who were sworn in Tuesday after they were chosen by a faction led by Welshman Ncube, Tendai Biti and Lynette Karenyi Kore under the proportional representation quota.

Mbudzi Interchange Fraudsters In Hot Soup

The State intensified its pursuit of justice yesterday as it sought to consolidate documents in a case involving an audacious attempt to defraud the government of nearly US$1 million in a failed Mbudzi interchange deal.

Levy Idana (39), a businessman and director of Ledmart Investments (private) limited, alongside Enerst Shenje, the deputy director of roads services in the Transport and Infrastructural Development ministry, appeared before Harare regional magistrate Donald Ndirowei on charges of orchestrating a scheme to misappropriate Mbudzi interchange compensation funds for personal enrichment.

Prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti, representing the State, fervently appealed for the merging of the dockets of the accused duo, emphasizing the gravity of the charges against them. Mutsokoti also disclosed that the State awaits a crucial statement on the matter from the Secretary of the Ministry of Transport.

The case, postponed to April 9, centers around allegations that the accused duo manipulated the compensation funds meant for property owners affected by the Mbudzi interchange project. The complainant, represented by the Secretary for the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, asserts that the accused attempted to siphon off government funds through deceitful means.

Legal representatives Arshiel Mugiya and Admire Rubaya are defending Idana and Shenje, respectively, as they navigate the intricate legal proceedings.

The prosecution contends that in 2021, the Zimbabwean government, through the Transport ministry, launched a project to construct a multi-level interchange at Mbudzi, impacting 135 residential, industrial, and commercial properties. In response, a fund was established to compensate affected property owners following a thorough valuation process.

In 2022, the ministry conducted valuations on properties slated for acquisition due to the interchange construction. Prosecutors allege that the accused pair colluded to defraud the government by submitting falsified claims. As a result of their actions, the complainant suffered a direct financial loss of US$200,000, with a potential additional prejudice of US$803,417 hanging over the case.

Building a Safer Future for Zimbabwe’s Mine Workers

Zimbabwe boasts abundant mineral resources, including gold, platinum, and diamonds, making mining a significant contributor to the country’s economy. However, the country has experienced a series of mine accidents, resulting in injuries, fatalities, and environmental damage.

Last September, for instance, seven miners died in Chegulu when the mine they were working on collapsed and trapped them underground. By instilling a collective commitment to safety among all stakeholders, including miners, mine owners, regulators, and communities, Zimbabwe can reduce the frequency and severity of mine accidents, safeguarding the lives of those employed in the mining industry.

Understanding Safety Culture

Safety culture is how things get done around an organization, or in this case, country, when it comes to safety. It reflects what the organization values most – safety – and how seriously they take it. This includes:

  • Commitment to preventing accidents: This involves proactive measures to identify and eliminate hazards before they cause harm. For instance, instead of reacting to accidents, a construction site can emphasize daily inspections to ensure secure scaffolding and proper use of safety gear.
  • Effective risk management: This means identifying risks and figuring out how likely they are to happen and how severe the consequences could be. For example, a lab might have a process for classifying chemicals and implementing specific safety protocols depending on the risk level. Likewise, proper risk management skills will ensure your go-to pastime activities like online game sessions are rewarding and worth your investment. So, if you enjoy a relaxing game after a hard day’s work, consider the difference understanding your risk profile and managing expectations can make.
  • Integration of safety into everyday work: Safety should be ingrained in all operations, not treated as a separate activity. Safety briefings are a regular part of every shift, and employees are encouraged to stop work and report any unsafe conditions they encounter.

Overview of Mining Regulations in Zimbabwe

In Zimbabwe, the Mines and Minerals Act provides the legal framework for the exploration, mining, and disposal of minerals. Mining operations must obtain various permits and licenses from the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development. These include exploration licenses, mining leases, and environmental impact assessments.

Mining activities in the country are also subject to various other regulations and guidelines, including the Environmental Management Act, the Explosives Act, and the Labour Act. These regulations cover environmental protection, occupational health and safety, explosives management, and employment conditions.

Despite regulatory frameworks, challenges still need to be addressed to ensure compliance with safety standards in Zimbabwe’s mining sector. These challenges include limited resources and capacity within regulatory agencies, inadequate training and awareness among mine workers, and the prevalence of informal and small-scale mining operations that may operate outside formal regulatory frameworks.

Incorporating Safety Training into Mine Operations

Mine workers face dangers like powerful machinery, toxic chemicals, and even cave-ins, and thorough training programs are a lifeline. These programs equip miners with the knowledge and skills to spot potential hazards and take steps to minimize risks, safeguarding their well-being and ensuring everyone goes home safely.

Workers learn to recognize lurking dangers, from faulty equipment to unstable rock formations. They practice critical emergency response procedures, ensuring they can react swiftly in a crisis. The training also covers the safe operation of all the tools and machinery they rely on, preventing mishaps before they happen.

By equipping their workforce with this comprehensive knowledge, employers create a desirable effect: fewer accidents, fewer injuries, and ultimately, a safer, more efficient workplace with everyone returning home healthy.

Risk Assessment and Management

To identify hazards effectively, mining companies must conduct comprehensive risk assessments that involve:

  • Regular Checkups: Through frequent site inspections, they can keep a close eye on working conditions, equipment functionality, and safety procedures, ensuring everything stays up to par.
  • Systematic Scans: Hazard checklists, Job safety analyses, and risk assessment matrices help companies search for and prioritize threats based on how serious they could be and how likely they are to happen.
  • Worker Insights: Miners are the eyes and ears on the ground. Companies must actively seek their input and feedback to identify potential hazards and safety concerns they encounter daily.
  • Learning From The Past: By analyzing past incidents and near misses, companies can identify underlying dangers and improve safety protocols.

Safety Equipment and Technology

Mining is a tough business, and workers face a constant barrage of dangers – falling rocks, dust-choked air, loud noise, and the threat of machinery mishaps. High-quality safety equipment can help prevent injuries and keep everyone safe.

Here’s a look at some essential safety gear that should be standard in any mining operation:

  • Helmets: These sturdy hats are the first line of defense against falling objects and bumps, protecting workers’ heads from serious injury.
  • Breathing Apparatus: Respirators shield miners from inhaling harmful dust, fumes, and other airborne nasties that can damage their lungs.
  • Eye Guards: Safety goggles and face shields guard against flying debris, chemical splashes, and intense light, keeping workers’ eyes safe.
  • Ear Protection: Earplugs or earmuffs act like earmuffs for the soul, muffling the deafening roar of machinery and preventing noise-induced hearing loss.
  • Protective Clothes: High-visibility vests, gloves, and steel-toed boots shield against cuts, scrapes, and other physical hazards that come with the job.

Zimbabwean mines need to continue prioritizing safety as a core value in all aspects of their operations. By learning from past experiences and remaining committed to continuous improvement, the mining industry in the country can create safer working environments, protect the health and well-being of its workers, and contribute to sustainable development and economic growth.

Amnesty International Pressures Zim Govt Over Whereabouts of Itai Dzamara

By A Correspondent| Ahead of the ninth anniversary of the enforced disappearance of Itai Dzamara, a journalist and pro-democracy activist who was abducted in Harare on 9 March 2015, Vongai Chikwanda, Amnesty International’s Deputy Regional Director for East and Southern Africa, said:

“Nine years after the enforced disappearance of Itai Dzamara, the Zimbabwean authorities continue to impede the delivery of justice, truth, and reparations. Their failure to launch an effective investigation into Dzamara’s disappearance sends the chilling message that activists seeking to demand accountability from the government are no longer safe.

“Itai Dzamara’s family and friends have endured nine painful years waiting for truth and justice over his enforced disappearance. His family needs closure from the agonizing uncertainty they have been subjected to. The feeling of insecurity and fear that his disappearance has generated is not limited to his close relatives, but also affects the broader civil society community.

“Amnesty International reiterates its call for the government to set up an independent, judge-led Commission of Inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Dzamara’s abduction, with powers to subpoena witnesses. The findings must be made public and those suspected of criminal responsibility should be brought to justice in fair trials. Members of the public with information to contribute to the Commission through submissions must be allowed to do so and the authorities must ensure their safety and protection.”

Itai Dzamara was abducted on 9 March 2015 by five men while he was at a barber shop in Harare’s Glen View suburb. His abductors are said to have accused him of stealing cattle before handcuffing him, forcing him into a white truck with concealed number plates, and driving off. He has not been seen since then. Amnesty International believes he is a victim of enforced disappearance, a crime under international law.

Prior to his abduction, on 7 March 2015, Itai had addressed a rally in Harare where he called for mass action to address the deteriorating economic conditions in Zimbabwe and for the late President Robert Mugabe to step down. He was previously targeted by state security agents, beaten, abducted, and unlawfully detained.

Itai’s case is one of many in Zimbabwe’s long history of abductions and enforced disappearances that the authorities are yet to investigate and, if there is sufficient admissible evidence, prosecute in fair trials.

Wicknell Chivayo Victor of WITCHCRAFT or THEFTCRAFT?

Analyzing the controversy surrounding businessman Wicknell Chivayo requires a multifaceted approach that addresses not only the failed solar power project in Gwanda but also the recent display of wealth that raises further questions about his financial practices. Chivayo, a businessman known for his extravagant lifestyle, has been at the center of a significant controversy after being awarded a tender by the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) through its subsidiary, Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC), in 2015 to construct a solar power plant in Gwanda. Despite receiving over USD 5 million for this project, there has been no progress, and the site remains undeveloped years later.

### The Allegations of Financial Misconduct and Influence

The term “witchcraft” can metaphorically describe the alleged manipulation and influence that Chivayo may have used to secure the tender and avoid accountability, despite the project’s lack of progress. This manipulation extends to a broader network within Zimbabwe’s political and economic spheres, suggesting a deep-rooted ability to navigate and exploit these systems to his benefit. The conviction of a former Minister of Energy connected to payments made to Chivayo’s project further underscores the potential depth of this influence, casting a shadow over the integrity of the procurement process.

### The Notion of “Theftcraft” in the Gwanda Solar Project

“Theftcraft” refers to the serious accusations of financial misconduct linked to the Gwanda solar project. The central issue is the mismanagement or misappropriation of the USD 5 million allocated for the project, which remains uncompleted. Chivayo’s public displays of wealth, especially his lavish spending on luxury cars for celebrities, have fueled speculation about the origin of his funds, given the stalled state of the solar project that was intended to benefit the public sector.

### Recent Financial Extravagance: A Case of Money Laundering?

Adding a new layer of complexity to Chivayo’s financial dealings is his recent public splashing of an untraceable USD 1.7 million. This expenditure, notably not linked to any public tender awarded during the 2023 elections, raises significant concerns about the source of these funds. The magnitude of this spending, coupled with the lack of a transparent financial trail, suggests that these funds may have been laundered. This assertion gains weight in the context of Chivayo’s history and the prevailing economic conditions in Zimbabwe. Critics argue that this money, ostensibly derived from illicit activities, should be subject to forfeiture under the Proceeds of Crime Act. This scenario not only highlights potential violations of national laws but also casts a spotlight on the broader issues of financial accountability and the mechanisms in place to prevent money laundering.

### Ethical and Economic Implications of Chivayo’s Actions

The ethical and economic implications of Chivayo’s dealings are profound, touching on issues of transparency, accountability, and the misuse of public resources. The opportunity cost of the misallocated funds is particularly significant in a country grappling with electricity shortages and economic challenges. The funds directed towards the failed Gwanda project and Chivayo’s unaccounted wealth could have been invested in viable energy solutions or other critical sectors for Zimbabwe’s development.

The controversies surrounding Wicknell Chivayo, from the stalled Gwanda solar project to his recent unexplained wealth, reflect broader systemic issues within Zimbabwe’s public procurement and financial governance frameworks. While the terms “witchcraft” and “theftcraft” serve as metaphorical lenses to understand his influence and financial misconduct, they also underscore the urgent need for reforms. Strengthening transparency, accountability, and legal mechanisms is crucial to prevent the recurrence of such issues, ensuring that public projects fulfill their intended purposes and contribute to the nation’s sustainable development.

ZANU PF Accuses US of Closed Engagement Door Amidst Sanctions Press Conference Clash

By A Correspondent| In a tense diplomatic standoff, ZANU PF has pointed fingers at the United States, alleging a deliberate obstruction of engagement opportunities, following the exclusion of its members from a press conference convened by US embassy officials to explicate the details of a recently imposed sanctions regime.

NewsDay observed a confrontation as members affiliated with the shadowy Citizens Against Economic Sanctions, having ties to the ruling party, were forcefully denied access to the presser. The incident underscores escalating tensions between the two nations.

The friction arises in the aftermath of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and 13 other prominent figures, including First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa, being slapped with fresh sanctions under the Global Magnitsky (GloMag) sanctions program. These sanctions, primarily targeting corruption and human rights violations, signify a revocation of the longstanding Zimbabwe-specific sanctions program in effect since 2003.

Notable figures on the sanctions list include Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri, CIO Deputy Director Walter Tapfumaneyi, businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei, his wife Sandra Mpunga, businessman Obey Chimuka, Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga, Deputy Police Commissioner Stephen Mutamba, and Midlands Minister Owen Ncube. Additionally, entities such as Tagwirei’s Sakunda Holdings, accused of facilitating state corruption, Fossil Agro, and Fossil Contracting, are also targeted.

The tensions escalated when US Embassy officials convened a press conference in Harare to elucidate the intricacies of the new sanctions regime. However, ZANU PF officials expressed displeasure as they found themselves barred from attending the crucial event.

Farai Marapira, the ZANU PF director of information and publicity, voiced the party’s frustration, stating, “Our people were blocked from attending the Sanctions press conference. This shows that they are not ready for engagement and to answer difficult questions.”

During the presser, US embassy Chargé d’Affaires, Laurence Socha, emphasized the United States’ commitment to upholding core values of respect for human rights and responsible, transparent governance. Socha clarified that the sanctions are targeted against individuals responsible for corruption and serious human rights abuses, not against the country of Zimbabwe itself.

Socha urged the Zimbabwean government to take concrete steps towards openness and democracy, addressing corruption issues. He also emphasized the dynamic nature of the sanctions program, with regular adjustments based on available evidence, indicating the US’s intention to support the citizens of Zimbabwe and its democratic institutions.

In response, Marapira questioned the sincerity of the US stance, pondering whether it signaled a genuine willingness to effect positive change or merely an attempt to legitimize existing sanctions, which, according to him, are illegal under international law.

What Could Be Missing From Mnangagwa’s ‘Third Term’ Bid?

By Pride Mkono| Recent discussions in both mainstream media and social media have largely revolved around the possibility of President Emmerson Mnangagwa seeking a third term.

Much attention has been drawn to the newly introduced Zanu PF slogan ‘2030 vaMnangagwa vanenge vachipo’ (loosely translated as ‘2030 Mnangagwa will still be president’).

Video clips depicting Zanu PF youths and politburo members chanting this slogan at a youth day event in Masvingo quickly circulated online, evoking strong reactions from the public.

While immediate discussions gravitated towards constitutional interpretations and the potential for amendments to facilitate Mnangagwa’s third term, I will not delve into these aspects here, as my colleague Mlondolozi Ndlovu has already provided insightful commentary on the matter.

Instead, this analysis aims to uncover potential motives that may be overlooked in the ongoing discourse, specifically exploring the notion that President Mnangagwa could be employing a complex strategy of deception and diversion.

Power retention master play
Since assuming power following a coup in 2017, President Mnangagwa has adeptly navigated the complexities of maintaining his authority.

In the realm of politics, the acquisition and retention of power are paramount, and Mnangagwa has demonstrated a keen understanding of this reality.

Employing a combination of coercive measures and strategic political maneuvers, he has consolidated his influence within both Zanu PF and the State apparatus.

Meanwhile, the opposition has struggled with internal discord and strategic ineffectiveness, failing to pose a significant challenge to Mnangagwa’s leadership.

Through a series of purges and marginalization tactics, Mnangagwa has effectively neutralized internal dissent, solidifying his control over the ruling party.

This shrewd display of political acumen has emboldened Mnangagwa and his supporters as they advance towards the prospect of a third term in office.

Diversionary tactics
The conventional interpretation of recent events may overlook a more nuanced strategy employed by Mnangagwa-one that extends beyond mere discourse on a potential third term.

While the Constitution currently restricts Mnangagwa from pursuing a third consecutive term, his control over Zanu PF’s parliamentary majority could facilitate an attempt to amend these provisions, potentially leading to a referendum.

However, Section 328(7) of the Constitution poses a significant obstacle, as it prohibits former presidents and incumbents from benefiting from the removal of term limits.

While some speculate that Mnangagwa may disregard these legal constraints, such a brazen approach could ultimately backfire and create more challenges than it solves.

Instead of focusing solely on the prospect of a third term, it’s plausible that Mnangagwa is leveraging this discourse to navigate the intricate dynamics of succession within Zanu PF.

Given the absence of term limits in the Zanu PF Constitution, Mnangagwa’s leadership tenure is contingent upon continuous endorsement by party structures.

With the next Zanu PF Congress scheduled for 2027 and considering the current narrative positioning him as the leader in 2030, Mnangagwa may be strategically positioning himself to emerge as the dominant figure in the party post-2027.

By doing so, he could effectively sideline internal rivals vying for succession, consolidating his power within Zanu PF and positioning himself as the key arbiter in determining the state presidency in 2028.

In this scenario, Mnangagwa would wield significant influence over the selection and promotion of the Zanu PF presidential candidate while maintaining control of the party apparatus.

Essentially, he could orchestrate the appointment of a successor who aligns with his agenda, effectively ruling by proxy through this handpicked successor.

This strategy draws parallels to authoritarian leaders elsewhere, such as Putin in Russia, who have skillfully maneuvered around term limit provisions to retain control of their countries even without holding formal positions.

Similarly, the case of DRC’s Kabila serves as a pertinent example, wherein the authoritarian leader stepped aside and installed Felix Tshisekedi-a perceived proxy-as president, while retaining significant power behind the scenes.

Outfoxing internal rivals
The potential ramifications of the aforementioned scenario, particularly concerning internal dynamics within the ruling party, have not been thoroughly examined.

Mnangagwa’s ascent to power was facilitated by a military coup orchestrated by the then Chief of the Army, General Chiwenga. Speculations within political circles suggested an informal agreement for Mnangagwa to serve a single term and then pass the baton to Chiwenga.

With Mnangagwa now nearing the end of his presumed final term, it would seem logical for Chiwenga to succeed him. However, the discussion surrounding a third term may serve to thwart Chiwenga’s ascension, ostensibly under the pretext of neutralizing opposition forces.

Consequently, Mnangagwa’s maneuvering sidelines deserving internal party elites who would otherwise be in line for succession within the ruling party and eventually within the state. This dynamic risks eroding elite cohesion and could potentially spark internal conflicts within the party.

In conclusion, the rhetoric surrounding a potential third term for President Mnangagwa appears to be a strategic diversion aimed at neutralizing internal contenders vying to succeed him legitimately upon the conclusion of his term.

It is conceivable that Mnangagwa harbors ambitions to retain control behind the scenes, wielding influence over both the ruling party and the government apparatus while installing a loyal surrogate as the public face of the administration.

Understanding this nuanced perspective is crucial, as it empowers public discourse with a comprehensive understanding of the political landscape.

Informed by such insights, stakeholders advocating for democracy can better navigate potential succession crises and capitalize on opportunities for positive transitions.

Thus, comprehensive awareness of all conceivable scenarios is imperative for fostering stability and advancing democratic principles.

Registrar General Forced To Issue Birth Certificates To Undocumented Children

By A Correspondent| The Registrar-General (RG) has been ordered to end the statelessness dilemma of two minor children by registering their births and issue them with birth certificates within one week, after he and his subordinates had refused to do so for several years.

The two minor children, who are aged 10 and 12 years old, had been undocumented since birth and rendered stateless in the land of their birth for several years after the RG Henry Machiri withheld the issuance of their birth certificates by demanding that their mother’s estranged husband, who left for the United Kingdom several years ago and whose whereabouts are unknown, should produce a disclaimer affidavit disowning the two girls and also asked their biological father to furnish the RG’s Office with Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test results confirming the paternity of the children.

According to court documents, the mother, who has been been struggling to process the birth certificates for her minor children, was legally married to his estranged husband since January 2004.

Sometime in 2004, the now estranged husband, reportedly left Zimbabwe for the United Kingdom with an agreement that the wife would follow him a year later.

But this did not materialise and the two have been estranged for 20 years with the minor’s mother not in the know about the current whereabouts of her former husband.

The mother of the minor children subsequently entered into a relationship with another man and gave birth to the two girls in 2012 and 2014 and this is confirmed in the birth confirmation records from Mpilo Central Hospital and United Bulawayo Hospitals, where the two girls were born.

Over the years, the minor’s mother unsuccessfully attempted to process the birth certificates for her two children and in her recent attempt, sometime in January 2023, she was advised by authorities at the Bulawayo District Registry, that she must either produce a disclaimer affidavit from her estranged husband confirming that the children are not his or a divorce decree from the High Court or Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test results confirming the paternity of the children. However, she was not in possession of any of the required documents leading to the minors living and remaining as undocumented children.

Adding onto her dilemma, her 12 year-old daughter is scheduled to register for her Grade Seven examinations, which will be written later this year and her school has demanded to be furnished with a birth certificate in order to facilitate her registration.

Through the assistance of her lawyers, Jabulani Mhlanga and Prisca Dube of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, the minors and their parents have now heaved a sigh of relief after High Court Judge Justice Nokuthula Moyo recently ordered the Registrar-General to register and issue the 10 year-old and 12 year-old children with birth certificates within seven days.

In her ruling, Justice Moyo castigated the conduct of authorities at the RG’s Office for refusing to register births of children without availing valid reasons, which she said is contrary to the provisions of the Constitution and was contributing to statelessness and was a denial of access to documentation of deserving people.

The Judge criticised the conduct of officials in the RG’s Office for giving themselves powers that are not conferred to them in terms of the law and for placing onerous requirements on parents applying for birth certificates of their children.

Justice Moyo stated that the RG does not have powers to order DNA tests among other requirements to prove paternity and emphasised that it was not the duty of the RG to enquire into and regulate the marital status of the parents applying for birth certificates for their minor children.

The Judge emphasised the importance of the right to a birth certificate and that it is not a right that can just be interfered with and that the RG is mandated to facilitate the process of assisting one to obtain such a critical document.

CCC Senators Recalled A Day After Being Sworn-in In Parliament

Chaos continues in the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change following the recall of four senators who were sworn in Tuesday after they were chosen by a faction led by Welshman Ncube, Tendai Biti and Lynette Karenyi Konye under the proportional representation qouta.

War Vets Sink Mutsvangwa

By Political Reporter- Outspoken Zanu PF spokesperson and former War veterans minister Christopher Mutsvangwa was fired from the government for causing divisions among the war veterans, it has emerged.

Mnangagwa Wednesday swore in Monica Mavhunga as the new War Veterans minister, replacing Mutsvangwa.

Taking the oath of office at the state house on Wednesday, Mavhunga vowed to improve ex-combatants welfare and see to it that they meet with President Mnangagwa, their patron.

This statement suggests that Mutsvangwa was blocking war veterans from seeing Mnangagwa.

Mavhunga was sworn in along with Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce Raj Modi at State House in Harare yesterday.
Speaking after the swearing-in ceremony, Minister Mavhunga said in line with Vision 2030, war veterans must also be economically empowered.
“We have to look at their welfare as provided for by the statutory instruments so that their welfare is catered for. War veterans want to be economically empowered.
“Yes they look old, but they have children who can also work in their businesses. So we will try by all means to have individual projects for war veterans as well as institutional projects to fill in the war veterans fund.”
Minister Mavhunga said plans are underway to host a war veterans’ indaba.
“As someone who is also a war veteran, I know that the war veterans want to meet with their President and we are in the process of organising something very big.
“I cannot give an actual date, but when the President met with the war veterans last time, he promised that there should be an annual indaba for war veterans, so we are in the process of organising that.
“I am sure that they will always interact with their leader who is also our President and also a war veteran,” she said.
Deputy Minister Modi, who is retaining his previous portfolio, said he will continue interacting with stakeholders.
“What I left in my last term I shall continue with that to fulfil our President’s Vision 2030 to make our industry self-sufficient.
“As you can see, in most of the market places 85 percent of our local products are being sold. It shows the progress on the industry side,” he said.
Minister Mavhunga was elevated from being Deputy Minister on Monday replacing Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa.
Deputy Minister Modi was appointed in January together with Health and Child Care Deputy Minister Sleiman Timios Kwidini who has already taken his oath of office.
Vice Presidents Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi as well as Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Martin Rushwaya were among the dignitaries who were following proceedings during the swearing-in ceremony.

Mnangagwa Buries Mutsvangwa

Chinese Arrested In Vehicle Fraud

Chinese National in Court Over $98,000 Vehicle Fraud in Harare.

In an astonishing case of trust betrayal, Meng Dong, a 34-year-old Chinese national, found himself before the Harare Magistrate, Mr. Donald Ndirowei, yesterday, facing charges of theft of trust property. Accused of using a vehicle he did not own as collateral for a loan, Meng’s legal representation was provided by Mr. Freddy Masarirevhu. The court has remanded him in custody, with a bail application set for today.

The complainant in this case is 51-year-old Sun Hao, who became a victim of Meng’s elaborate scheme. According to State Prosecutor Mr. Lancelot Mutsokoti, the incident unfolded on February 2nd, when Meng deceitfully borrowed a pearl white Nissan Patrol from Sun under the pretense of needing it for merely four days. However, Meng had ulterior motives, driving the vehicle straight to Wiltech Auto Trade Car Sale, located at 4 Enterprise Road, Harare.

Utilizing fake documents and falsely claiming to be Sun’s agent, Meng managed to sell the vehicle on February 5th, around noon. The unsuspecting buyer, Wilberforce Ruzvidzo of Wiltech Auto Trade Car Sale, was later found to have the vehicle, which Meng had claimed as loan collateral for borrowing money.

When Sun Hao sought to reclaim his Nissan Patrol, he was met with the shocking news of its unauthorized sale. Left with no choice, Sun reported the incident to ZRP Highlands, leading to Meng’s arrest on Sunday. Remarkable detective work led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle from Ruzvidzo, ensuring that the entire value of the vehicle, amounting to US$98,000, was restored.

This case highlights the increasing need for vigilance in personal and business dealings, emphasizing the importance of verifying the authenticity of documents and the integrity of individuals in transactions. As the legal proceedings against Meng Dong continue, many are left wondering about the measures that can be taken to prevent such instances of fraud in the future.-state media

Jail Escape By Prophet Who Beat Up Congregants

Kwekwe Prophet Sentenced to Jail for Assaulting Congregants.

By Farai D Hove | In a recent court ruling that has captured the attention of Kwekwe residents and beyond, Simabvu Shiri, a self-styled prophet and founder of Spring of Living Waters Ministries, has been sentenced to 12 months in jail following a series of assault incidents that went viral on social media. The magistrate, Cherly Tembo, found Shiri guilty of assaulting one of his congregants, Violet Ndhleleni, while dismissing charges related to the other two alleged victims, Peace Tapfumanei and Takudzwa Dube, due to lack of evidence.

This case, which has thrown a spotlight on religious extremism and abuse of power within faith communities, comes at a time when Zimbabwe grapples with a broader discussion about the role of charismatic religious leaders in society. Shiri, who pleaded guilty to the assault on Ndhleleni, was recorded in a widely circulated audio clip, verbally and physically abusing her on the grounds of alleged gossip. The incident, which took place on February 14, 2024, has reignited concerns over the unchecked influence of some religious figures who exploit their authority for personal gain or to exert control over their followers.

Magistrate Tembo has suspended three months of Shiri’s sentence on the condition that he refrains from committing a similar offense over the next five years. Additionally, nine months of the sentence have been converted to community service, requiring Shiri to complete 315 hours at Mbizo Police Station starting March 6, 2024.

The case of Simabvu Shiri is not an isolated incident but part of a worrying trend of so-called prophets engaging in criminal activities under the guise of religious authority. These actions not only undermine the genuine faith of many but also pose a serious threat to the social and moral fabric of communities. As Zimbabwe continues to navigate its way through political and social challenges, the role of religious leaders and their influence on the populace remains a contentious issue.

This sentencing is a reminder of the need for vigilance and accountability, especially in environments where power dynamics can lead to exploitation and abuse. It is a call to action for both civil society and regulatory bodies to ensure that religious institutions serve as safe havens for spiritual growth and community support, rather than platforms for individual misconduct.

Mthuli Ncube Speaks On Sanctions Removal

THE piecemeal removal of sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the United States has been described as a step in the right direction, although the country prefers to have the illegal embargo completely removed.

In an interview with The Herald yesterday after the closing media conference at the 56th UNECA Conference of Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube said he was hopeful that in future, all the sanctions would be removed to allow the country to chart its developmental trajectory unhindered.

It is a step in the direction; remember we have been in an impasse for quite a while and (when) we see this move now; I think it’s a step in the right direction.

“Of course, we would have wanted to see more, but this is what we have now and hopefully, the next time around we can move to the next level,” said Prof Ncube.

He added that the partial removal of sanctions could open a window for Zimbabwe to engage the international community further for Harare to “have access to resources for its economic agenda”.

In a bold comparison, Sengezo Tshabangu, the interim Secretary General of the controversial Citizens Coalition for Change, recently likened himself to the legendary figure, Joshua Nkomo.

In an exclusive interview with Open Parly ZW, Tshabangu articulated his stance, stating: “I am the living embodiment of Joshua Nkomo’s legacy, and I am committed to seeing his vision through to fruition.”

Of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Passion For Women

By A Correspondent

A recent statement by Zanu PF official, Apiah Nyasha Musavengana, declaring President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s understanding of women has ignited a heated debate regarding the Zanu PF leader’s reputation as a womanizer.

The ambiguous assertion made by Musavengana has raised questions about the nature of Mnangagwa’s relationship with women and his commitment to gender equality.

According to Musavengana, “The Zanu PF leader Mr. Emmerson Mnangagwa really understands women.”

This statement, delivered by a prominent figure within the ruling party, has prompted widespread speculation and discussion surrounding Mnangagwa’s attitude towards women.

In an interview, Musavengana, who is also the Founder and President of Concord for Young Women in Business Global, emphasized the opportunities that the Second Republic, under Mnangagwa’s leadership, has provided for young women.

She stated, “It is with no doubt that our organization is taking full advantage of these opportunities in order to help the Second Republic fulfill vision 2030.”

Musavengana’s remarks highlight a supportive stance towards Mnangagwa’s leadership and his purported commitment to empowering women.

She further expressed her organization’s dedication to spreading awareness about Mnangagwa’s vision among women across various districts, underscoring the importance of women’s participation in national development.

Reflecting on recent events such as the commemoration of National Youth Day, Musavengana emphasized the significance of such occasions for young women to engage in discussions about economic development and their role in realizing Mnangagwa’s vision for the country by 2030.

However, amidst these assertions of Mnangagwa’s support for women’s empowerment, the statement regarding his understanding of women has sparked controversy.

Some view it as an attempt to portray Mnangagwa in a positive light, while others interpret it as an acknowledgment of his rumored reputation as a womanizer.

The debate surrounding Mnangagwa’s relationship with women underscores broader issues of gender equality and the need for transparent and accountable leadership.

While some may interpret Musavengana’s statement as a genuine endorsement of Mnangagwa’s commitment to women’s empowerment, others may question the sincerity of such declarations in light of persistent allegations against Mnangagwa’s personal conduct.

As Zimbabwe continues its journey towards development and progress, it is imperative for leaders to prioritize gender equality and ensure that women have equal opportunities for participation and advancement in all spheres of society.

Only through genuine efforts to address gender disparities and promote inclusive leadership can the nation truly achieve its goals of prosperity and equality for all.

Zimpapers Journalists No Salaries Since Jan, As Bosses Buy USD450K Luxury Cars

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Zimpapers, the country’s largest media conglomerate, has been embroiled in controversy for failing to disburse February salaries to its employees amidst accusations of rampant corruption within its management ranks. Allegedly, the management had allocated US$450,000 for the purchase of luxury vehicles, including those for the newly appointed board members.

Luxury geeks bought

A statement reluctantly shared by the workers’ committee revealed that management had promised to settle salaries by March 6, a commitment they did not honor. Subsequently, the management informed the staff of a new payment schedule, with Grade 8 employees to be paid on Friday and Grade 7 on March 14, resulting in a significant delay from the end of the month.

An employee, who requested anonymity, expressed their dissatisfaction, stating, “This is a first for this company and it’s largely due to the uncaring attitude by senior management. They think that we will be satisfied because they too are yet to be paid when we all know that their allowances from January and early February, when they received car allowances, can sustain them. They are also receiving forex fuel coupons while we have to use public transport to work.”

Another worker voiced concerns over the skepticism they face from landlords, who find it hard to believe that a prominent company like Zimpapers could fail to pay its staff. “The perception out there is that we are well taken care of, yet reality on the ground is completely different. Even general tools of trade are pathetic. Something must just give because if the situation persists, the biggest media house might close shop, not because business is no longer there but largely because of totally misplaced priorities,” the disgruntled employee added.

Zimpapers, with its vast operations that span publishing houses, television and radio stations, and a commercial printing division, now finds itself at a critical juncture, threatened by internal strife and financial mismanagement.

Mutsvangwa Praises US President Joe Biden | FULL TEXT

Christopher Mutsvangwa

“We want to start by hailing President Joe Biden for taking the decision to lift a good chunk of the executive orders that had been inhibiting Zimbabwe from fully participating in the global economy.

It was a courageous decision from his part. We get to remember that he was the original sponsor of the ZIDERA Act in 2002 when he was a member of the US Congress, him and Hillary Clinton. So he knows Zimbabwe well and for him now as a President of the US, the most powerful country in the world to have had the sincerity and the courage to actually revisit the issue of sanctions and to nullify or to remove a bunch of the Executive orders, it is a positive thing.

As Zimbabweans who have suffered for so long, we really welcome that decision on the part of the US President.

It is coming almost two decades of continuous executive orders against Zimbabwe by US Presidents. It was almost a yearly routine that come February, come March, those sanctions will be renewed or will be increased or aggravated. So, to have them this time in 2024 being removed, it is a very positive thing.

I also want to add that as ZANU PF, we have always worked under the Mantra of our President, who would want to be enemy to none and friend to all. So it looks like the message is getting through.

There’s absolutely no reason why a little country of 16 million people, landlocked, snuck in the middle of Africa, would ever under any consideration be viewed as a threat to the US Foreign Policy. “ Amb Chris Mutsvangwa

Motsoaledi Targets Zimbabweans, Revives Anti-ZEP Court Challenge

South Africa- Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has approached the Constitutional Court, appealing to scrapping the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP) programme.

In June 2023, the Pretoria High Court ruled that the termination of the ZEP had been unlawful and unconstitutional.

Motsoaledi then appealed the ruling but it was dismissed by the Supreme Court of Appeal on the grounds it had no prospects of success.

This week the Minister turned to the Constitutional Court, essentially on the same grounds, asking that it adjudicate over the issue.

In the application lodged in the Constitutional Court, Home Affairs director-general Livhuwani Tommy Makhode, who is the second applicant after the minister, wants leave to appeal against the whole June 2023 judgment of the Pretoria High Court.

The High Court ruling ordered the minister to reconsider the termination of the programme and follow a fair, lawful and consultative process.
The Pretoria High Court then refused to grant leave to appeal.
The Helen Suzman Foundation and others are expected to oppose the application. They have until March 15 to file papers.

Fred M’membe’s Call for Friction Between Zambia And Zimbabwe, An Offence

By Mark Simuuwe | To call for friction between two countries expressingly or impliedly is a criminal offence.

Fred M’membe is back with his dirty divisive politics of creating confusion, hate, and extreme jealousy.

In his insatiable appetite for political relevance, division, extreme jealousy, hate and anger, Fred claims President Hakainde Hichilema has celebrated US- sanctions on Zimbabwe, with intent to systematically create friction between the two countries which is an offence and jailable.

very clear it is the Govt of Zimbabwe’s spokesperson Nick Mangwana who threw a party over the removal of US sanctions

To put matters straight, Zambians acknowledge that Sanctions on Zimbabwe have a bearing on Zambia’s economic activities, including the entire SADC region; it is a notorious fact that there is interdependence among all world economies and a fall in one has a bearing on the other countries.

Arising from the above, government of the Republic of Zambia has issued a statement under the Acting Foreign affairs Minister Honorable Mulambo Haimbe in which, government has expressly called on the US and other Countries to remove all sanctions from Zimbabwe.

But as usual, Fred survives on dirt, insults and calling for anarchy to finance his party and believe by writing negative things about HH and Mnangagwa , he will be more relevant for funding.

This kind of politics is draconian and has no space on Zambia’s political landscape.

Fred believes, he will be more relevant by committing an offence; once caged, he should not cry foul.

Which responsible person calls for friction between his own country and the neighboring country?

For avoidance of doubt , His Excellency Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of
Zambia and Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security

Cooperation, about 81 sanctions have since been removed from Zimbabwe, leaving about 9 sanctions, which is an achievement for the first time such sanctions were imposed in the past 20years.

Mnangagwa In Open-Zip Stir

By Political Reporter-A recent statement by Zanu PF official Apiah Nyasha Musavengana has ignited a heated debate over President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s relationship with women, raising questions about his reputation as a womaniser.

Musavengana’s ambiguous assertion that “The Zanu PF leader Mr. Emmerson Mnangagwa really understands women” has fueled speculation and discussions surrounding Mnangagwa’s attitudes towards women and his commitment to gender equality.

In an interview, Musavengana, who is also the Founder and President of Concord for Young Women in Business Global, highlighted the opportunities provided for young women under Mnangagwa’s leadership in the Second Republic.

She stated, “It is with no doubt that our organisation is taking full advantage of these opportunities to help the Second Republic fulfill vision 2030.”

Musavengana’s remarks emphasised a supportive stance towards Mnangagwa’s leadership and his commitment to empowering women, with her organisation dedicated to spreading awareness about Mnangagwa’s vision among women across various districts.

However, amidst the praise for Mnangagwa’s support for women’s empowerment, the statement regarding his understanding of women has sparked controversy, with some interpreting it as an attempt to portray him positively, while others see it as an acknowledgement of his rumoured womanising reputation.

The ongoing debate underscores broader issues of gender equality and the necessity for transparent and accountable leadership.

The sincerity of Musavengana’s endorsement of Mnangagwa’s commitment to women’s empowerment is questioned in light of persistent allegations against his personal conduct.

As Zimbabwe continues its journey towards development and progress, leaders are urged to prioritise gender equality and ensure that women have equal opportunities for participation and advancement.

Genuine efforts to address gender disparities and promote inclusive leadership are essential for the nation to achieve its goals of prosperity and equality for all.

Tshabangu Boasts Of Teaching Advocate Chamisa Principles Of Democracy

Sengezo Tshabangu, the controversial interim Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), made headlines recently with claims of having a direct phone conversation with Advocate Nelson Chamisa, leader of the opposition in Zimbabwe.

Tshabangu, who was recently sworn in as a Senator, asserted that he used the opportunity to impart principles of democracy to Chamisa, sparking discussions about internal dynamics within the opposition and the future of democracy in Zimbabwe.

In a brief statement, Tshabangu revealed, “For the first time since we started operation restore democracy and transparency in opposition, Nelson Chamisa called me yesterday congratulating me on my recent appointment as a Senator and I told him that the struggle continues and without those fundamentals, he won’t go anywhere.”

This statement implies that Tshabangu sees himself as a pivotal figure in advocating for democratic principles within the opposition movement.

The assertion by Tshabangu sheds light on the internal dynamics and power struggles within the opposition, particularly within the newly formed CCC.

Tshabangu’s remarks suggest a degree of tension or disagreement regarding the approach to democracy and transparency within the opposition ranks.

Moreover, Tshabangu’s claim to have instructed Chamisa on the principles of democracy raises questions about the leadership and direction of the opposition movement.

While Tshabangu portrays himself as a proponent of democratic values, his approach and motives are subject to interpretation and scrutiny.

The implications of Tshabangu’s statements extend beyond internal opposition politics to broader discussions about the state of democracy in Zimbabwe.

As the country navigates through political transitions and challenges, the role of opposition leaders in upholding democratic principles becomes increasingly significant.

The exchange between Tshabangu and Chamisa underscores the complexity of political dynamics in Zimbabwe and the ongoing struggle for democracy and transparency.

It also serves as a reminder of the importance of principled leadership and the need for robust dialogue within opposition circles to advance the cause of democracy in the country.

As Zimbabweans observe developments within the opposition and the broader political landscape, the statements made by Tshabangu and Chamisa serve as a reflection of the ongoing debates and struggles for democracy and accountability in the nation.

Nelson Chamisa Bemoans Sluggish Education Standards In Zimbabwe

By A Correspondent

In a recent statement, opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has raised concerns about the sluggish state of education standards in Zimbabwe.

With a population eager for knowledge and progress, Chamisa emphasized the critical need to prioritize education policies to propel the nation forward, especially in the face of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

“Building a formidable modern education system is imperative for preparing Zimbabwe for the challenges and opportunities of the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” Chamisa declared.

He stressed the importance of aligning education systems and curricula with national development goals to ensure relevance and effectiveness in shaping the future workforce.

Drawing inspiration from successful models, Chamisa pointed out the achievements of countries like Finland, which have struck a remarkable balance between academic and vocational education.

“We can learn from nations such as South Korea, Singapore, Ireland, Canada, and Japan,” he remarked, highlighting their investments in leading education policies that have catalyzed widespread economic development.

Chamisa urged Zimbabwe to emulate these success stories, emphasizing the need to equip the youth with the skills and knowledge necessary to compete on a global scale.

“Let’s ensure our education system sets our youth up for success and enables them to be competitive internationally,” he emphasized.

The opposition leader’s remarks underscore the pressing need for reform in Zimbabwe’s education sector.

Despite the nation’s potential, outdated systems and inadequate resources have hindered progress, leaving many young people ill-prepared for the demands of a rapidly evolving world.Chamisa’s call for action resonates with educators, policymakers, and citizens alike, as they recognize the pivotal role of education in driving socio-economic development.

His advocacy for a modern, responsive education system aligns with broader aspirations for a prosperous and globally competitive Zimbabwe.

By prioritizing education policy and learning from successful models, the nation can position itself to thrive in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and beyond. Zanu PF Official Reveals Mnangagwa’s Deep Affection for Women

VP Chiwenga Sued

A United Kingdom and Wales-based company, Electricity Management Services Limited (EMS) has sued Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga after losing a tender to supply smart meters.

EMS is also challenging payment of US$50 000 security demanded by the respondents in order for them to hear the challenge.

The company cited the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Praz), Chiwenga, Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), Finance minister Mthuli Ncube and Inhemeter Co Limited as respondents.

According to court papers, the dispute emanated from a tender for the supply and delivery of prepayment vending meters to ZETDC.

EMS and lnhemeter Co submitted bids and the latter was successful.

EMS sought to challenge the bidding process and was advised that it should pay the sum of US$50 000 to lodge the challenge. EMS, however, argued that the requirement to pay security to challenge a bidding process was unconstitutional.

The company further argued that this was also an assault on the right to administrative justice and judicial review of administrative action. The company also sought a declaration of constitutional invalidity of some sections of the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Act.

The matter was heard by High Court judge Justice Sylvia Chirawu-Mugomba.

Mugomba first ruled that EMS has locus standi to challenge the constitutionality of laws of a foreign country.

The laws in Zimbabwe on security costs read that when a company or foreign company or a private business corporation is plaintiff or applicant in any legal proceedings, the court may at any stage require sufficient security to be given for those costs and may stay all proceedings till the security tendered.

However, applicant’s lawyer advocate Tawanda Zhuwarara submitted that the procedure for security for costs is provided for under High Court rules. The company also submitted that Praz was holding its funds totaling US$610 319,47 and hence it was weird for security for costs to be paid.

“The court, however, has a discretion in exceptional cases, but should exercise its discretion sparingly,” the judge ruled.

“Given that the matter is fairly complex and is of great significance on the issue of a peregrini challenging the Zimbabwean laws on a constitutional point, in my view the applicant ought to pay security for costs.”

The judge said he deliberately dealt with the issue of locus standi “because an order as to payment of security for costs is interlocutory”.

“It gives the applicant an opportunity to pay the security for costs and then the other preliminary issues and the merits if warranted will be dealt with,” the judge said.

“Accordingly, the matter is disposed of as follows, judgment on the remaining preliminary issues and if warranted the merits in case number HC2389/22, be and is hereby stayed pending the payment of security for legal costs by the applicant.”

Mugomba further ruled that if the company failed to pay US$50 000 security for costs, the parties shall determine the amount to be paid by the applicant.

Sikhala Scores Another Victory

By Court Correspondent| National Democratic Working Group leader, Job Sikhala, has been cleared of another criminal charge after a Harare magistrate found him not guilty of inciting public violence back in 2020.

Sikhala, a former legislator and CCC politician, was accused of posting a video on social media encouraging Zimbabweans to protest against the dire state of the economy and widespread corruption under the current Zanu PF-led government. However, the state failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.

In delivering the verdict, Harare magistrate Vongai Guuriro Muchuchuti stated that the evidence presented did not support the accusations against Sikhala. She emphasized that none of the witnesses could confirm if the videos were in their original form, leading to the not guilty verdict.

Following his acquittal, Sikhala’s lawyer, Harrison Nkomo, announced plans to sue for damages at the High Court, highlighting the injustices endured by his client during his one year and eight months in custody.

This acquittal marks the end of Sikhala’s pending criminal cases before the magistrates’ court, relieving him of the legal burden he has faced due to his aggressive political style. While he still has two convictions under appeal at the High Court, Sikhala can now focus on his political endeavors without the looming threat of further criminal proceedings.

ZERA Raises Fuel Prices Amid Economic Strain

By A Correspondent| In a move that is set to impact the pockets of Zimbabwean citizens, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced a significant hike in fuel prices effective immediately.

The decision comes amidst ongoing economic challenges facing the nation.

As of today, the price of petrol has surged to US$1.68 per litre, marking a noticeable increase from the previous price of US$1.64 recorded in February.

Similarly, diesel prices have risen to US$1.69 per litre, up from US$1.67 in the previous month.

For Zimbabweans using RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement) currency, the surge in fuel prices translates to a substantial burden.

Diesel is now priced at a staggering ZWL$26,086.51 per litre, compared to the previous ZWL$18,265.37 in February.

Petrol, on the other hand, now commands ZWL$25,993.19 per litre, up from ZWL$17,887.82 previously.

The abrupt price hike has sparked concerns among citizens already grappling with the harsh realities of inflation and economic instability.

With fuel being a critical component of daily life, the increase is expected to reverberate across various sectors, affecting transportation costs, commodity prices, and ultimately the cost of living for ordinary Zimbabweans.

GZU Registrar General Accused Of Running Down Institution

By A Correspondent| The Great Zimbabwe University registrar general, Dr. Sinikiwe Gwatidzo, who has served as Airports Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ) board member, is being accused of running down the organization into a mess through her autocracy and favoritism.

A group of professors, some who lecture at the university, expressed their displeasure and disgruntlement in her style of leadership which has led to many resignations.

In October 2023, the Universities’ Vice Chancellor, Dr. Zvogbo, went on leave which paved the way for Dr. Sinikiwe to run all her shenanigans in a bid to consolidate power and become the most powerful woman in the university. According to the organization’s charter, there has to be two Pro Vice Chancellors; at the moment, there is only one hired from South Africa, Dr. Professor Moses John Chimbari, who has been praised by many lecturers for doing his work very well. It is alleged that Dr. Sinikiwe uses the second vacant post to appoint people of her choice who are loyal to her even though they are not qualified for the post. This person will act as the Vice Chancellor when Dr. Zvogbo is away.

In the absence of Dr Zvobgo , Dr Chimbari is supposed to take over as acting VC as he is the substanive Pro Vive Chancellor appointed by the ministry of education. Dr Gwatidzo appointed Bernard Chazovachii to be acting Vice Chancellor instead, a move which shocked and angered many law abidng proffessors.Chazovadii is an Associate Professor and Dean of the Julius Nyerere School of Social Sciences at Great Zimbabwe University but his ascention was manufactured as a way of Gwatidzo`s greed to consolidate power says witnesses.

According to the amendment of State Universities Statutes Bill published in the Gazette in 2022, there are important values that all state universities have to align with. The amendments aimed at aligning the university Acts with the Constitution and making their provisions more uniform, bringing the universities’ objectives into line with the Government’s education policy, with a focus on the production of goods and services. It also included reducing the size of the university councils and making them more balanced in regard to gender and regional representation, altering the way senior university officers are appointed, introducing principles of good corporate governance, and streamlining their disciplinary procedures.

Dr. Sinikiwe Gwatidzo is being accused of breaking all these standards and trying to create a Macedonian invasion of Alexander the Great in modern times. Speaking to Zimcelebs, one former lecturer explained that the situation had become dire to the extent that he had to choose between his mental health and his job. If you air out your views, you become the enemy, and she does not promote anyone whom she feels she does not want. He further explained that all the problems learners are facing at the university are just a symptom of her conduct at work.

Learners at Great Zimbabwe University have complained about the type of food being served and the nature of their dormitories despite the exorbitant fees they pay. One student council member explained that the registrar does not care about the welfare of the students but is more inclined to consolidating power. Another student from Mashava Campus said the registrar has stayed for too long and she is no longer acting on school development and should be shuffled to pave way for new and better minds. He also described the dire situation in their living rooms and sleeping beds were it is not up to standard all caused by these power struggles initiated by Dr. Sinikiwe.

Another female student from the Mashava campus described a sad situation they find themselves in as they walk to one WIFI spot during the night to do their academic researches. “A big university like GZU cannot have only one WIFI spot she described in utter bewilderment. ” We walk in the dark risking being attacked or raped by gold panners around the campus only to connect to WIFI in this 21st century whilst the top management is trying to be shrewed in power fights.

Another Students Representative member aired out his disbelief on the health care situation on the campus. He said a big campus like Mashava does not have a single ambulance that can take a student to the hospital incase of an emergence.

He said learners are being ferried with a truck like dried tobbaccoo whenever there is an emergence and this is very worrisome for a big instituion like GZU.

He also added that the canteen was burtnt some some months ago but there have been no any efforts to commence the repairs because Dr Gwatidzo is busy making personal decisions.

The constitution of the university section (9:1) says: The Pro-Vice-Chancellor shall be appointed by the Chancellor after consultation with the Minister and the Council, and shall hold office for such period as is provided in his or her contract of employment.

Dr. Sinikiwe is alleged to have not followed these protocols in her influence and other lecturers have also accused her of using love like Aphrodite to make appointments. She has also violated the government protocols in appointing the acting VC in the absence of Dr. Zvobgo, sidelining Dr. Chimbari and putting those from her camp.

According to the Universities Public Relations department, prior to her appointment as the GZU Registrar, Dr. Gwatidzo had served as the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations at the Midlands State University since December 2009.

In that capacity, she was responsible for managing communication with all University stakeholders and fundraising towards major University projects.

A certified Arbitrator in the Construction Industry, Dr. Gwatidzo also served as a Labour Relations Officer in the Ministry of the Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare between 1999 and March 2000 and a Designated Agent for National Employment Council for the Construction Industry of Zimbabwe.

Her duties included grievance handling; conducting hearings; writing determinations; inspection of work sites and industrial areas.

Having such a rich background in her work could have made her a great person, one security guard reiterated, but it has all turned her into a power-hungry Napoleon who will stop at nothing whilst the university lies in desolation.

He further called responsible authorities to take action before many qualified professors leave the institution and the situation worsens. Others are opting not to renew their contracts because of this toxic environment.

Can Zimbabwe Navigate Through Diarrhoea Attacks?

By Farai D Hove | Zimbabwe is facing a critical moment as it grapples with a severe diarrhoea outbreak, compounded by a cholera crisis that has been lingering since last year. The heart of the matter lies in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second-largest city, which is currently battling an alarming increase in diarrhoea cases, particularly in the Cowdray Park suburb. This outbreak has been closely linked to the dire water shortages and the city’s struggle with a stringent water shedding schedule, leaving some suburbs without water for nearly three weeks.

Residents, in their desperation, have resorted to using water from unsafe sources, including shallow wells in swampy areas, and enduring long waits at communal boreholes. The Director of Health Services in Bulawayo, Dr Edwin Mzingwane, has highlighted the severity of the situation in Cowdray Park, urging residents to adhere to strict hygiene practices and seek medical attention promptly. The local authority is striving to mitigate these challenges by ensuring water provision, albeit hindered by depleted dam levels and infrastructural issues.

The broader cholera situation further exacerbates the country’s plight, with recent figures indicating a slight decrease in new cases, thanks to heightened community awareness and improved management strategies. The government’s response includes deploying community health workers, establishing treatment centers, and rolling out vaccination programs targeting hotspots, particularly around Harare.

However, the arrest of a suspected whistleblower amidst this health crisis raises serious concerns about transparency and accountability in handling the outbreak. This action may potentially undermine efforts to control the situation, as whistleblowers play a critical role in alerting the public and authorities to health risks and malpractices.

To combat these health challenges effectively, Zimbabwe requires a multi-faceted approach that includes immediate governmental action to address water and sanitation issues, community engagement to promote hygiene practices, and a transparent communication strategy that encourages reporting and whistleblowing without fear of retribution.

As the government and local authorities scramble to find solutions, including appealing for emergency funding and fast-tracking infrastructural projects, the resilience and cooperation of the Zimbabwean people remain vital. The coming weeks are crucial in determining whether Zimbabwe can turn the tide against these outbreaks, requiring concerted efforts from all sectors of society to safeguard public health and restore normalcy.

Police Officer Secretly Telephones Same Suspect He Arrested

By Dorrothy Moyo | In a striking development that has ignited a nationwide conversation on the methods employed by law enforcement in conducting investigations, a local city lawyer has raised significant concerns over the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s practice of telephoning suspects as part of their investigative procedures. The issue came to light during the bail hearing of Michael Ndebele, a suspect involved in multiple cases of fraud, drawing attention to the broader implications of police conduct and the adherence to legal standards in criminal investigations.

### The Case That Sparked Debate

Michael Ndebele, accused of defrauding several grain millers of thousands of dollars through botched deals, became the focal point of a legal and ethical debate when Mr. Tinashe Tashaya of Sengweni Legal Service challenged the police’s method of contacting him. During the cross-examination, it was revealed that the police had attempted to summon Ndebele to the police station over the phone, a tactic that Detective Sergeant Clever Zaranyika defended as necessary due to Ndebele’s perceived lack of cooperation and risk of absconding.

### Legal and Ethical Questions

The practice, as Mr. Tashaya pointed out, is not explicitly supported by law, suggesting that the police’s reliance on phone calls to engage with suspects might not only be unconventional but potentially illegal. The Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act, as cited by Tashaya, requires formal processes such as summons or warrants for such engagements, casting doubt on the legality of telephonic invitations to suspects to present themselves at police stations.

### Police Perspective and Practices

Despite these criticisms, Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube and an anonymous senior police officer defended the practice. They argued that telephoning suspects forms part of their efforts to conduct thorough investigations, allowing suspects to voluntarily present themselves without implying immediate arrest. This approach, they claim, is a practical measure in the pursuit of justice, though it raises questions about the balance between effective law enforcement and adherence to legal protocols.

### The Broader Implications

This case underscores a critical dilemma facing modern law enforcement: how to effectively investigate and prevent crime while strictly adhering to legal and ethical standards. The debate over telephoning suspects reflects broader concerns about privacy, consent, and the lawful interception of communications, issues that resonate not only in Zimbabwe but around the world. With laws and norms varying significantly across jurisdictions, the challenge lies in finding a universally acceptable balance between the imperatives of justice and the rights of individuals.

### Moving Forward

As the legal community and the public grapple with these questions, the case of Michael Ndebele serves as a catalyst for a necessary dialogue on police practices, legal standards, and the protection of civil liberties. The controversy not only highlights the need for clarity and uniformity in law enforcement procedures but also emphasizes the importance of transparency, accountability, and public trust in the justice system. As this debate unfolds, it will undoubtedly influence future policies and practices, potentially leading to significant reforms in the way law enforcement operates within the bounds of the law and ethical considerations.

High Court Orders Harare Car Dealer to Refund US$87,000 in Fraudulent Vehicle Import Case

HARARE, Zimbabwe – In a significant ruling, the High Court has mandated Confined Auto Private Limited, a car dealership in Harare, to refund the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society the sum of US$87,000. This ruling comes as a resolution to a fraudulent vehicle importation case that has spotlighted the darker side of the country’s booming car import market.

The controversy centers around a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado VX, imported from South Africa in 2019 by Mr. Kudakwashe Matyokurebwa, the owner of Confined Auto. The vehicle was seized by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority two years post-importation, upon the discovery of fraudulent importation practices.

Despite numerous attempts to resolve the issue amicably, the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society, feeling aggrieved by the deception, pursued legal action against Matyokurebwa and his enterprise. They sought not only a refund of the purchase price but also damages equating to the disparity between the refunded amount and the cost of a legally imported substitute vehicle.

Matyokurebwa’s defense hinged on the argument that the vehicle’s value had depreciated due to usage and involvement in two traffic incidents prior to its seizure, thus valuing the car at US$38,000 at the time of its capture. This stance, however, did not sway the court’s judgment.

Justice Bongani Ndlovu, presiding over the case, ruled in favor of the Agricultural Society, affirming a buyer-seller relationship had existed between the society and Confined Auto. The court dismissed the claims against Matyokurebwa in his personal capacity but found his company liable for the fraudulent.

Global Surge in Illegal Imports: Unpacking the Challenges and Responses

The increasing prevalence of illegal imports across the globe is sounding alarms among trade officials, law enforcement, and economic analysts. This trend, which spans from luxury cars and high-tech electronics to counterfeit consumer goods, threatens to undermine the fabric of international trade, endanger consumer safety, and inflict significant damage on national economies.

John Doe, a trade expert at the Global Economic Forum, highlights the gravity of the situation: “We are witnessing an unprecedented influx of illegal imports, which cleverly bypass the established legal and regulatory frameworks meant to safeguard our markets and consumers.”

The issue of illegal imports is complex, fueled by factors such as economic disparity, high import duties, and the demand for restricted items. Advances in technology and globalization have only made it easier for illicit goods to penetrate markets, often leaving regulatory bodies a step behind.

Maria Smith, a senior customs official, underscores the challenge: “Smugglers and counterfeiters are exploiting the digital age, leveraging online platforms to evade traditional border controls and sell directly to consumers.”

In response to this growing threat, authorities worldwide are intensifying their efforts. “We’re bolstering our surveillance and inspection capabilities at points of entry and engaging in more robust international cooperation to address these issues head-on,” states James Wilson, director of a national anti-smuggling task force.

However, the adaptability of those behind illegal imports presents a persistent challenge. The emergence of online marketplaces and social media as venues for the distribution of illicit goods has added layers of complexity to the enforcement efforts.

“Digital platforms have become the new frontiers for illegal trade, complicating our efforts to track and prosecute those involved,” explains Lisa Chen, a cybersecurity specialist working with law enforcement agencies.

The economic repercussions of this illicit trade are profound. Not only do illegal imports deprive governments of essential tax revenue, but they also undercut legitimate businesses, threatening jobs and the overall quality of market offerings.

“Competing against illegally imported goods is an uphill battle for legitimate businesses, impacting everything from revenue to job security,” notes Robert Gomez, CEO of a manufacturing company.

Environmental and public health concerns also loom large, as unregulated imports can include hazardous materials or violate conservation laws. “The environmental impact of these illicit activities cannot be overstated, posing serious risks to biodiversity and public health,” says environmental activist Sarah Patel.

Addressing the rise in illegal imports requires a multifaceted approach. “Strengthening legal frameworks, fostering global cooperation, and investing in technology and personnel for border enforcement are crucial,” advises Thomas Lee, a policy analyst at the International Trade Organization.

Additionally, raising public awareness about the risks associated with purchasing illegally imported goods can help curb demand. “Educating consumers about the dangers and ethical implications of buying illicit goods is key to tackling this issue from the demand side,” suggests Emily Zhao, a consumer rights advocate.

As the global community confronts the challenges posed by illegal imports, the consensus is clear. “This is a collective battle that demands a concerted effort from governments, businesses, and consumers alike,” concludes Doe. “Together, we can protect our economies, safeguard consumer interests, and uphold the integrity of international trade.”

Mnangagwa Announces Mutsvangwa Replacement

By A Correspondent

In a move that has sent shockwaves through Zimbabwe’s political landscape, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has swiftly named Senator Monica Mavhunga as the new Minister of War Veterans, replacing the recently sacked Chris Mutsvangwa.

Mutsvangwa’s dismissal comes amidst speculation and murmurs of discontent within the ruling Zanu PF party.

Mutsvangwa, who played a prominent role in Mnangagwa’s ascension to power through a coup in 2017, found himself ousted by the very leader he helped propel into office.

The suddenness of his removal has left many questioning the motivations behind Mnangagwa’s decision.

“President Mnangagwa has appointed Honourable Senator Monica Mavhunga as Minister of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs with immediate effect,” announced Dr. Martin Rushwaya, the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, on Monday.

Senator Monica Mavhunga’s appointment marks a significant shift in leadership within the Ministry of War Veterans.

With a distinguished career in politics and a track record of service to the nation, Mavhunga brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her new role.

In response to her appointment, Senator Mavhunga expressed gratitude and a commitment to serving the interests of war veterans and the broader Zimbabwean community.

The swift appointment of Senator Mavhunga comes at a critical juncture for Zimbabwe, as the nation grapples with economic challenges, political tensions, and social unrest.

The role of the Ministry of War Veterans in providing support and assistance to those who fought for Zimbabwe’s independence remains crucial, and Mavhunga’s leadership will undoubtedly be closely scrutinized in the coming months.

Meanwhile, the dismissal of Chris Mutsvangwa has sparked debate and speculation within political circles.

Despite his pivotal role in Mnangagwa’s rise to power, Mutsvangwa’s departure suggests a shifting political landscape and the emergence of new power dynamics within Zanu PF.

As Zimbabwe navigates the complexities of political transition and economic reform, the appointment of Senator Monica Mavhunga as Minister of War Veterans signals a new chapter in the nation’s history.

With expectations high and challenges abound, all eyes will be on Mavhunga as she assumes her new responsibilities and seeks to make her mark on Zimbabwe’s political landscape.

Reason Behind ZBC Boss Suspension Revealed

The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) has recently made headlines as its Chief Executive Officer, Adelaide Chikunguru, faces suspension for purchasing Starlink Internet, a service yet to be licensed in Zimbabwe.

This move has sparked debate and raised questions about the state of internet connectivity in the country and the regulatory framework governing it.

Last week, Chikunguru found herself suspended from her position without salary or benefits.

According to insider reports, the ZBC board took this drastic measure in response to Chikunguru’s procurement of Starlink, a satellite internet service provided by SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk.

“The ZBC board suspended its CEO for buying Starlink, which is yet to be licenced in Zimbabwe,” a source said on Monday.

The suspension of the ZBC CEO has stirred speculation and discussion among industry experts and the public alike.

At the heart of the matter lies the legality and implications of utilizing a service like Starlink in a country where it has not been officially licensed or regulated.

On one hand, supporters of Chikunguru argue that her decision to invest in Starlink was motivated by a genuine desire to improve internet connectivity in Zimbabwe.

With the country grappling with unreliable and often inadequate internet infrastructure, especially in rural areas, alternative solutions like Starlink could potentially bridge the digital divide and empower communities with better access to information and resources.

However, opponents of Chikunguru’s actions point to the importance of adhering to regulatory procedures and protocols.

They argue that while the intention to improve internet access is commendable, bypassing established licensing processes sets a dangerous precedent and undermines the authority of regulatory bodies tasked with overseeing telecommunications and internet services.

Moreover, concerns have been raised about the potential implications of using a service like Starlink without proper regulatory oversight.

Issues such as spectrum allocation, data privacy, and national security come to the forefront, highlighting the need for a comprehensive regulatory framework that addresses the unique challenges posed by satellite internet technologies.

The suspension of Chikunguru underscores the complexities and tensions inherent in navigating the intersection of technology, regulation, and governance.

It serves as a reminder of the importance of striking a balance between innovation and compliance, ensuring that advancements in technology are harnessed responsibly and ethically for the benefit of society. As the case unfolds, all eyes will be on the ZBC and regulatory authorities to see how they address the broader issues at hand and chart a path forward for internet connectivity in Zimbabwe.

Whether this incident leads to a more robust regulatory framework for emerging technologies like satellite internet remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the stakes are high, and the decisions made today will shape the future of internet access in Zimbabwe for years to come.

CCC Hijackers Tshabangu, Biti Side-Kick Sworn In As Senators

By- Sengezo Tshabangu and Kucaca Phulu, a former PDP vice president, were among nine Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) members sworn in as senators at the New Parliament Building in Mt Hampden this Tuesday.
The other CCC members sworn in as senators include, Lilian Mlilo, Linda Sibanda and Collet Ndhlovu all from Bulawayo Province, Teresa Kabondo and Grace Mampande from Matabeleland North Province, and Maxwell Mdhluri and Sam Chapfudza from Manicaland and Masvingo provinces respectively.
Tshabangu is from Matabeleland North, while Phulu is from Bulawayo.
This comes after a Government gazette’s General Notice 291 of 2024 in which the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) chairperson Priscilla Chigumba confirmed the list of the new senators.
The gazette also confirmed the list that will fill Proportional Representation vacancies in the National Assembly and these include Nomvula Mguni, Otilia Sibanda, Lungile Ncube and Sikhuphukile Dube all from Bulawayo.

Sibongile Maphosa will fill the same vacancy for Matabeleland South Province.
Tshabangu recalled several CCC senators and PR MPs in the National Assembly who were sworn in soon after the August 2023 general elections so that he and his close colleagues would grab the vacant seats and join the “gravy train”.
Tshabangu was virtually unknown before the general elections, and ordinary voters were left asking how he acquired the authority to expel their representatives with scant regard for their expectations in defiance of the party’s then-president Nelson Chamisa.

How to Choose the Right Trading Platform

Security Considerations

The paramount concern should be the security of your funds and personal information.

Opt for platforms with a strong track record of security, employing encryption, two-factor authentication, and other measures to protect users.

User Interface and Experience

A user-friendly interface can significantly enhance your trading experience.

Platforms that offer a seamless and intuitive experience, with easy access to essential features and information, are preferable, especially for beginners.

Fees and Commissions

Understanding the fee structure is crucial. Look for platforms with transparent fee policies to avoid unexpected costs.

While lower fees are attractive, they should not come at the expense of security and functionality.

Reliable customer support is indispensable, particularly for those new to trading. Platforms that offer prompt and helpful support through various channels (such as email, chat, and phone) demonstrate a commitment to user satisfaction.

Investing in Zimbabwe: Opportunities and Risks

The emergence of trading platforms in Zimbabwe marks a pivotal development in the country’s financial landscape.

These platforms offer the promise of inclusivity and efficiency in finance, bringing a wealth of opportunities to traders’ fingertips.

However, navigating this new terrain requires knowledge, caution, and a keen understanding of both the opportunities and risks involved.

As Zimbabwe continues to embrace digital finance, staying informed and choosing the right trading platform will be crucial.

By considering security, user experience, fees, and customer support, traders can make informed decisions that align with their financial goals.

The future of finance in Zimbabwe is bright, with technological innovations and regulatory advancements paving the way for a more accessible, secure, and dynamic trading environment.

Chamisa Bounces Back

By Political Reporter- The country’s most popular opposition politician, Nelson Chamisa, has outlined his vision for a New Zimbabwe, which is on the horizon.

The former ICT Minister in the Government of National Unity (2009-2013) says he plans to modernise the country’s education system.

 He posted on X:

BUILDING A FORMIDABLE MODERN EDUCATION SYSTEM- PREPARING ZIMBABWE FOR THE FOURTH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION … As a nation with a learning-hungry population, prioritising education policy is paramount.

During the election campaigns, I made a strong case for the scrapping of the Continuous Assessment Learning Activities (CALA).

I see this week government finally scrapped the Continuous Assessment Learning Activities (CALA) amid escalating pressure from learners and parents, replacing it with a heritage-based education curriculum.

It admits of no debate that the CALA system, is an experiment that failed. It had unfairly jeopardised a generation.

Our education policies, and any policy for that matter, must undergo rigorous testing before implementation; our future is at stake. In the past, education policies have run into implementation headwinds due to the absence of public consultation.

Like its predecessor CALA, the heritage-based curriculum will fail on the basis that it is a COMMAND Curriculum- a product of zero consultation and has been foisted on learners.

CITIZENOCRACY is the way to go. Citizens must be at the centre of policy development and implementation.

More public participation and stakeholder involvement in decision and policymaking.

We must construct policies through consultation and collaboration with global education experts, educators, school development bodies, industry, and business stakeholders, and those with parental responsibilities.

More public participation and stakeholder involvement in policymaking is essential.

Developing policies from the top down without consulting adequately with stakeholders is catastrophic.

Public consultation in policymaking boosts stakeholder and citizen buy-in, improves transparency, and increases the efficiency and effectiveness of policies and regulations.

These policies must be forward-thinking, considering both global and local development needs and trends. Education should be demand-driven, equipping our youth with future-ready skills.

We must focus on and see future opportunities and effectively and efficaciously cater for the demands of the future. We can change our future only if we think differently. Market research is fundamental.

Human capital is the most underrated yet so vital an asset. Great nations invest heavily and strategically in education anchored on comprehensive market research.

On account of this, a well-funded education system that is sensitive and responsive to the needs and requirements of pupils, parents and teachers is fundamental.

We aim to turn Zimbabwe into a business hub, tech hub and education hub of the world. To achieve this we must take bold steps and make revolutionary moves.

In a New Great Zimbabwe, we will turn things around and become a superpower in the next three decades For the next 10 years we have 3 key revolutions blockchain, AI and Biotech revolutions.

The rapid speed at which these technologies — AI, quantum computing, the metaverse, and others – are evolving will be a pressing question, especially as we try to grapple with the challenges relative to this constant evolution.

We must be ready to use emerging technologies and AI to govern better, making government systems trustworthy, inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.

Nothing can be made right in bits and pieces. We need a major game-changing and unheard-of type of reforms wholly and totally.

We need to restructure the education system. The system is teaching a lot of wrong lessons.

We must focus on entrepreneurship not just on creating employees. We must teach leadership and citizenship from kindergarten right up to tertiary levels.

Our education system is designed to prepare labourers and workers. We must produce employers and entrepreneurs more.

We must teach that mastering a skill is more valuable than memorising a subject. The education curriculum must intentionally balance between academic and vocational education.

In addition, Foreign languages and local languages should be introduced to the school subjects.

Aligning education systems and curricula to the national development goals. Finland has achieved a remarkable balance between academic and vocational education.

We can learn from countries like South Korea, Singapore, Ireland, Canada, and Japan, which have invested in leading education policies, resulting in widespread economic development. Let’s ensure our education system sets our youth up for success and be competitive at a global level.

Sikhala Snubs Morgen Komichi

Mnangagwa Swiftly Names Mutsvangwa Replacement

SADC Not Yet Done With Zim Elections – Chamisa

By A Correspondent

Opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has emphasized that the Southern African Development Community (SADC) remains actively engaged in addressing the contentious issue of disputed elections in Zimbabwe.

In an exclusive interview with NewsDay, Chamisa underscored his commitment to mobilizing support for a new government, rather than focusing on forming another political party.

“I have been engaging with people from all walks of life,” Chamisa explained.

“From villages to community leaders, the outpouring of confidence and hope is palpable. Zimbabweans are resolute in their desire for change. They yearn for a new government, not merely a new movement. I am dedicated to ensuring that I honor their aspirations.”

Having served as a former Cabinet minister during the Government of National Unity from 2009 to 2013, Chamisa has been actively seeking regional and international support to address Zimbabwe’s political crisis, particularly in the wake of his rejection of the election results in August 23, which declared President Emerson Mnangagwa as the winner.

In his efforts to garner support, Chamisa has engaged with diplomatic representatives, including Canadian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Adler Aristilde and British Ambassador to Zimbabwe Pete Vowles, to discuss pressing political matters.

“My consultations extend far and wide,” Chamisa emphasized.

“I am engaging with citizens, opinion leaders, and stakeholders across various sectors, both domestically and internationally. This inclusive approach underscores the urgency of addressing Zimbabwe’s political challenges.”

Chamisa stressed that SADC’s involvement in Zimbabwe’s political situation remains paramount.

“The unresolved issue of leadership in Zimbabwe cannot be dismissed lightly,” he asserted.

“SADC’s recognition that Zimbabwe’s election lacked credibility underscores the need for a thorough examination and a legitimate resolution. No compromised process can yield a credible outcome.”

As Chamisa continues his advocacy for political reform, he remains steadfast in his belief that meaningful change is achievable through concerted efforts both within Zimbabwe and through regional and international cooperation.

“The journey toward a more democratic Zimbabwe requires the collaboration of all stakeholders,” Chamisa added.

“From local grassroots organizations to regional bodies like SADC and the African Union, everyone has a role to play.

I am heartened by the support and encouragement I have received thus far, and I am committed to pursuing a path that honors the will of the Zimbabwean people.”

Tshabangu Claims Top Chamisa Associate “Desperate To Join Me”

By A Correspondent

In a startling turn of events, Sengezo Tshabangu, the self-appointed interim Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has made bold assertions regarding Prince Dubeko Sibanda, a prominent associate of opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa.

Tshabangu alleges that Sibanda is actively seeking to distance himself from Chamisa’s camp and join forces with him instead.

The controversial statement, made by Tshabangu last week, has sent shockwaves through Zimbabwe’s political circles. Speaking candidly, Tshabangu did not mince words as he addressed Sibanda directly, accusing him of political opportunism and insinuating a desire to defect.

“Mr. Sibanda, the truth will always come out,” declared Tshabangu.

“Stop behaving like a political opportunist. We have no need for individuals like you, who are not fully committed to the democratic struggle.

Your attempts to align yourself with us will not be entertained. Cease your efforts to engage with me, as I have no interest in your political games.”

The public airing of such grievances highlights the underlying tensions within opposition politics in Zimbabwe.

As the nation gears up for crucial elections, the scramble for alliances and strategic positioning has intensified, leading to fractures within established political entities.

Prince Dubeko Sibanda, known for his close association with Advocate Nelson Chamisa, has yet to respond to Tshabangu’s claims.

However, the implications of such allegations could have far-reaching consequences for both Sibanda and Chamisa, as they navigate the intricate web of Zimbabwe’s political landscape.

The emergence of Tshabangu as a vocal figure within the CCC adds another layer of complexity to the situation.

With his unabashed stance against perceived opportunism and wavering allegiances, Tshabangu appears determined to assert his authority and consolidate support for the CCC ahead of upcoming electoral contests.

As the political drama unfolds, Zimbabweans are left to ponder the implications of Tshabangu’s claims and the potential ripple effects on the broader opposition movement.

With stakes high and alliances fluid, the road to democratic change in Zimbabwe remains fraught with uncertainty and intrigue.

Rushwaya Accused Of Swindling Indian Investor Of US$ 1 Million In Botched Mining Deal

President of Zimbabwe Mining Federation (ZMF) Henrieta Rushwaya is a person of interest following allegations that she swindled Indian investors of USD1 million in a botched mining deal, a local online has reported.

Rushwaya allegedly misrepresented to an Indian based company, NV Group that is now being represented by Colonel S S Sidhu in Zimbabwe.

The local online further alleges that Rushwaya’s associate identified as Ashif Adil approached NV group and claimed to be representing President Emmerson Mnangagwa in foreign investments.

“Our chairperson expressed his desire to meet the President and do business in Zimbabwe and he connected Rushwaya on the phone who then claimed that she is speaking on the behalf of the President. Rushwaya had expressed to come to India thereafter but her visa was rejected because of her past deeds. She tried a lot to get the Indian visa but could not get it.

“Thereafter she came to meet the Chairman at Dubai with her 7-8 member team whom she demanded to be put up in a 5 star hotel and all traveled business class from here to Dubai and back. All details are with the police,” said Sidhu.

Investigations established that Rushwaya told investors that he was President Mnangagwa’s niece.

When pressing for payment, Rushwaya allegedly threatened Colonel Sidhu that the deal would collapse if he does not pay at least close to half a million in greenbacks.

“Ask Dehli for the following:
“Ref for the $200 000
“Progress on ARDA as they are likely to terminate the deal since their requests have not been met to date,” wrote Rushwaya in a message extracted from a Whats App thread that leaked to this publication.

In an exclusive interview with the local online, Sidhu confirmed that he has reported the matter to Zimbabwe Republic police who have since instituted investigations.

Circumstances are that Rushwaya approached the investors and name dropped the President’s name.

She received USD1 million and this publication is in possession of the communication with the the NV group chief executive and proof of payment paper trail.

Investigations by this publication established that Rushwaya is now evading the investors after squandering the money and taking them to a defunct mine at Mufurudzi game park.

She could not be reached for comment at the time of writing.
