Popular Harare-based football giants Dynamos are gearing up for the 2024 season, commencing their preparations this Tuesday.
The club, eyeing success on both domestic and continental fronts, aims to build on last year’s third-place finish in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
Coach Genesis Mangombe emphasizes the importance of an early start, intending to integrate new players and solidify team dynamics.
After a two-week training session in Harare, Dynamos will embark on a remote team-building phase before returning to the capital to finalize preparations for the upcoming season.
As they face challenges in retaining key players, including foreign interest in Captain Frank Makarati and Kelvin Moyo, Dynamos is determined to strengthen their squad, particularly in the striking department, in pursuit of a league title after a decade-long hiatus.
By Dorrothy Moyo | The recent BBC docuseries “Disciples: The Cult of TB Joshua” has sparked widespread controversy and mixed reactions, focusing on the late Nigerian preacher Temitope Balogun Joshua, popularly known as TB Joshua. The series sheds light on allegations of abuse under the guise of spiritual guidance, particularly scrutinizing the use of the affectionate title “Daddy” by Joshua’s followers.
In the series, former disciples and church workers share their experiences, alleging manipulation and physical abuse by Joshua. “When I first arrived, it was only a couple of days I started hearing disciples calling him Daddy,” reveals one former disciple, illustrating the immediate introduction to the culture within Joshua’s church. Another victim adds, “We all called him Daddy, everybody called him Daddy. He tried to like look after us, and we would all call him Daddy, it felt a bit odd, but I brushed it aside, I dismissed it, I can’t really look back and say my childhood was happy.”
These testimonies, coming from individuals from various countries, including the USA, the UK, Namibia, and South Africa, allege long-term manipulation, with some claiming to have spent between 10 to 14 years at the Synagogue Church of All Nations.
The series also delves into the tragic incident of September 12, 2014, when a guest house owned by Joshua’s church collapsed, killing at least 116 people. This event is a focal point in the documentary, further complicating Joshua’s legacy.
Social media reactions have been varied and intense. A YouTube user, King James, commented, “This is a call for us to be more discerning as believers. There are wolves in sheep’s clothing.” Another user, The Mindrest, expressed sympathy, saying, “These disciples must be traumatised. My heart goes out to them. I’m so sorry you guys had to go through this.”
However, not all reactions were critical of Joshua. Cedric YALITA, a YouTube user, defends him, citing biblical passages: “The more you prosecute us, the more we thrive. For our God is with us. None will be against us. Victory in Jesus’ Name.”
The BBC reached out to the church’s current leadership for comments. The response was dismissive of the allegations: “Making unfounded allegations against Prophet TB Joshua is not a new occurrence. None of the allegations was ever substantiated,” stated the church’s leadership.
This docuseries highlights the complex dynamics within religious communities and the challenges in addressing allegations against influential religious figures. The varied responses to the documentary underscore the deep divide in public opinion and the ongoing debate over Joshua’s legacy and impact.
Meanwhile, in the investigative, allegations of abuse and manipulation have resurfaced against the late Nigerian preacher TB Joshua, which are the type similar to those against the controversial political activist Hopewell Chin’ono. Both figures are known for being referred to as “Daddy” by their followers, a title that has been linked to allegations of manipulation and abuse.
The BBC docuseries “DISCIPLES” delves into the experiences of alleged victims of TB Joshua. One former disciple recalls, “When I first arrived, it was only a couple of days I started hearing disciples calling him Daddy.” Another adds, “We all called him Daddy, everybody called him Daddy. He tried to look after us, and we would all call him Daddy, it felt a bit odd, but I brushed it aside, I dismissed it, I can’t really look back and say my childhood was happy.”
Further complicating this scenario is the case of Hopewell Chin’ono, who has also been referred to as “Daddy” and faced similar accusations. Jean Gasho, in her 2020 published account, narrates her near-miss encounter with Chin’ono, drawing parallels with her past experiences with another “Daddy” figure, the convicted prophet Walter Masocha.
A side investigation by ZimEye reveals compelling evidence, including an audio recording of TB Joshua, where he is heard offering a ticket to a Zimbabwean rape complainant in 2016, allegedly to silence her. This recording is a critical piece of evidence that corroborates the allegations against Joshua.
Hopewell Chin’ono, addressing these accusations, blames them on a political conspiracy aimed at thwarting his potential 2028 election run. However, these claims are contradicted by an NHS practitioner who has known Chin’ono since the 1980s. The practitioner warns women against falling for Chin’ono’s alleged deceptive portrayal of wealth, claiming that the source of his wealth is misrepresented.
These allegations against both Joshua and Chin’ono are significant, not only because of their severe nature but also due to the evidence that supports them, including legal paperwork and phone call recordings.
These revelations challenge the public’s perception of these figures and call into question the dynamics of power and manipulation in religious and political spheres. The BBC’s investigation into these matters serves as a crucial spotlight on issues often hidden in plain sight within influential circles.

By A Correspondent A Harare resident found himself at a loss, allegedly losing USD$100,000 to a group of fake magicians who had promised to triple his cash.
In December of the previous year, the complainant was reportedly approached by James Munetsi, a 57-year-old friend, who claimed to have connections with magicians from Kenya capable of multiplying money magically.
Accompanied by accomplices posing as magicians, the accused allegedly performed a trick, supposedly turning US$10 into US$30 to convince the victim of their authenticity.
Subsequently, the accused and his partners persuaded the complainant to provide additional funds for multiplication.
Falling victim to the scam, the complainant sourced and handed over USD$100,000 to the accused and his associates, hoping for a three-fold increase.
The alleged magicians vanished with the money, leaving behind only papers in the bag, purportedly containing the multiplied cash.
Now facing fraud charges, the accused has been remanded in custody until his bail application next week.
By Political Reporter- Chief Justice Like Malaba has rubbished regional and international observation missions that condemned the last election and said that the polls were free and fair.
Malaba made these remarks Monday when he was officially opening the 2024 Legal Year.
“The Judiciary takes this opportunity to join the nation in commending Zimbabweans for exercising their constitutional right to deliver peaceful, free, fair and credible elections. On behalf of the Judicial Service Commission and the Judiciary”, said Malaba.
The controversial judge undermined the opposition and celebrated Zanu PF Presidential candidate Emmerson Mnangagwa for winning the contested elections last August.
“I take this opportunity to congratulate His Excellency Dr E D Mnangagwa for his re-election as the President of Zimbabwe. I also congratulate the two Honourable Vice Presidents for their appointment to the key constitutional offices”, said Malaba.
He went on to claim that Harare is now observing the constitution and the rule of law. This is in direct contrast with reality on the ground, where opposition members and government critics continue to be persecuted.
However, Malaba’s statements stand in stark contrast to the situation on the ground, where opposition members and government critics continue to face persecution. Notably, CCC deputy chairman Job Sikhala has remained in remand prison for almost two years, with the state denying him political bail despite constitutional guarantees for such rights.
ByJames Gwati- One of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s diplomates in Isreal has been sucked in the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries (PHD) church leader Prophet Walter Magaya’s US$3 Million fraud case where the controversial preacher allegedly duped a group of Israeli businessmen.
The matter is before the High Court of Zimbabwe under Case No. HCH621/23.
The fraud victims in this case, the Israelis, are represented by Doug Chanawa of Chanawa Law Chambers Investments and Commercial Law.
Magaya allegedly received the amount through Ronny Levi Musan, the Consul General of Zimbabwe in Israel, appointed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Musan expressed shock at the scam although he says he still maintains confidence in President Mnangagwa and in Zimbabwe as a safe investment destination. The agreement between Magaya and a group of Israeli partners which was chaired by Musan was signed on May 12, 2022 in the presence of their Israeli lawyer Akiva Rosner and Everson Chatambudza of Rubaya & Chatambudza Legal Practitioners who is Magaya’s lawyer. The businessmen said in a statement released to The Mirror that it was unheard of in Israel that a man of God could swindle people in the name of God. They also complained against swindlers using pictures taken with President Mnangagwa to deceive investors. “We hope that we will get justice in the courts in Zimbabwe; justice that will give other foreign investor confidence that their money is safe and justice that will act as deterrence to would be swindlers. “If we do not receive justice, we have all the power and financial capability to sue Magaya in international courts. We will not give up on our honour and on our money in anyway,” read the statement released by lawyer Rosner in Israel. Magaya allegedly received US$3 million to start a joint venture gold mining project with the Israelis in Zimbabwe. He however, disappeared immediately after receiving the money and did not fulfil any of the contractual obligations agreed upon. It is alleged that no major mining activity has started at the mine and no operating permits have been obtained. The statement said apart from taking Magaya to Court, they now want him arrested. “Magaya is lying to investors hiding behind the President’s pictures. It’s time for people to realise that not everyone who takes a picture with the President has the integrity of the President. “We love the President, respect and appreciate him,” said the statement. This is not the first time that investors with close links to Zanu PF or President Mnangagwa had duped international investors. Two years ago, Botswana-based investors were sent from pillar to post after Ragin Kassim of Bradfix Incorporated (Pvt) LTD in Masvingo allegedly duped them of US$795 000. They tried every Police station, every court and every lawyer but the intrinsic network of the swindlers appeared too complicated for them to unravel. The investors made an urgent chamber application under case number HC39-21, seeking interim relief for all mining operations at Golden Hill Mine Mashava to be suspended, barred or prohibited. The applicants had turned a once dormant mine into a thriving business enterprise and injected US$795 000 into the said mining project. The matter was heard by Justice Neville Wamambo who removed it from the roll on April 23, 2021 on the basis that it was not urgent. It is understood that the frustrated investors left the country and never came back. The Isaralis’ statement said that the investors were exposed to Zimbabwe though the “excellent work” of Musan. They said without him they would never have set foot in Zimbabwe. Magaya entered the picture following his many years of acquaintance with the Ambassador. “He introduced us to his church, his hotel and his plan to develop a gold mine with a community participation programme. He used his connection to the Ambassador to get money from us. Without the Ambassador he would not have got a cent from us,” read the statement. The statement further alleges that Magaya tried to give US$500 000 of the amount to the Ambassador who refused it. The Ambassador allegedly informed the investors about the unusual offer. According to the agreement, Magaya was going to hold 57% shares and the Israelis 43% with a personal guarantee of Magaya on the principal investment that all the funds would be used to develop the mine. The statement said Magaya unashamedly used his Church, God’s name and the trust that the Ambassador had in him to swindle the investors of their money. “It turns out to us that there are people who use God’s house and name for greed and fraud and they still dare to call themselves God’s people,” read the statement. According to the agreement, Magaya was supposed to use his properties including a hotel in Waterfalls as security but the stories changed after he received the money. He did not even comply with the terms for the transfer of the mine’s proprietary rights, alleges the statement. “As soon as he got what he wanted, his lawyers stopped communicating with us,” reads the statement. Ironically, Mnangagwa recently officially opened a state of the art stadium built by Magaya. Musan said he was marketing Zimbabwe in Israeli on the basis that Israeli is the Biblical Promised land to the people of Israeli and Zimbabwe is the promised land for investment and economic prosperity for the whole world. He said dishonest businessman were denting the country’s image and compromising the country’s chances of getting more investment. Magaya’s spokesperson, Admire Mango, could not be reached for comment as his mobile went unanswered.
By A Correspondent | In a significant development, the Bulawayo magistrate court has cleared Gift Ostallos Siziba, the Deputy Spokesperson for the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), of charges related to criminal nuisance. The announcement came directly from Siziba himself on Monday, marking a notable victory for him and his fellow ‘Change Champions’.
Siziba had been embroiled in legal troubles following his and four other CCC members’ involvement in political activities that were deemed a ‘nuisance’ by the authorities. This came on the heels of their victory against ZANU-PF and its candidates in the August elections, a triumph that Siziba suggests may have influenced the decision to press charges against them.
In his statement, Siziba called the charges ‘frivolous’, expressing his belief that they were baseless and motivated by political malice. He stated, “It was clear to me and to every sane person that the criminal nuisance charges were frivolous.” He accused ZANU-PF of resorting to these tactics as they cannot stop the CCC’s momentum through legitimate means.
The dismissal of these charges is seen as a reinforcement of the CCC’s position in Zimbabwe’s political landscape, especially in the wake of their recent electoral successes. Siziba’s discharge has been met with widespread support from fellow citizens and party members, who have consistently shown solidarity throughout the legal process.
In his concluding remarks, a defiant Siziba thanked the citizens for their unwavering support and reaffirmed his commitment to the CCC’s cause: “Thank you fellow Citizens for the solidarity always. We fight on! Until victory!”
The clearing of Siziba’s name is not just a personal victory but also a symbolic one for the CCC, representing resilience in the face of political adversity. The case has garnered significant attention, highlighting the ongoing political tensions in Zimbabwe. As the CCC continues its campaign, this development is likely to have far-reaching implications for the country’s political dynamics.
By James Gwati- The Zambian President, Hakainde Hichilema, has cut short his vacation and joined his health authorities in fighting cholera.
The Ministry of Health in Zambia reported last week that the cholera outbreak, which began in October 2023, has resulted in 3,015 confirmed cases and 98 fatalities. The alarming situation prompted concerns about the nation’s “health security,” as the Ministry of Health stated in a previous warning.
The surge in cases of Cholera has also forced authorities to announce a three-week delay in school opening.
Posting on his social media platforms Monday, President Hichilema said he was terminating his annual leave and joining healthcare workers to fight the spread of Cholera.
Said Hichilema: In view of the escalating Cholera situation, we’re cutting short our holiday & returning to Lusaka to provide more direct & frontline leadership in the fight against the outbreak.

The Warriors find themselves coachless as Baltemar Brito, appointed on a short-term deal in September, sees his contract expire amid deliberations by the ZIFA Normalization Committee (NC).
The Brazilian mentor, chosen from a pool of many participants, faced challenges, including work permit issues, leading to the conclusion of his Highlanders arrangement.
The NC, overseeing Zimbabwe’s soccer affairs until FIFA’s suspension is lifted in July 2024, remains tight-lipped about Brito’s future, indicating a review of his performance and a decision on contract renewal in the coming weeks.
By Religion Reporter- In a shocking revelation, the BBC has exposed evidence of extensive abuse and torture orchestrated by the late founder of one of the world’s largest Christian evangelical churches, the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN).
The two-year investigation brings to light harrowing stories of dozens of ex-members, including five British nationals, detailing atrocities such as rape and forced abortions allegedly committed by Nigeria’s late TB Joshua.
The allegations span almost two decades, with victims recounting instances of physical violence, torture, child abuse, and individuals being whipped and chained.
Multiple women claim to have been sexually assaulted, enduring repeated rape within the compound.
Shockingly, there are allegations of forced abortions, with one woman reporting five terminations.
The investigation also uncovers firsthand accounts exposing how Joshua allegedly faked “miracle healings” broadcast to millions worldwide.
The victims, including a British woman named Rae, describe their time as disciples inside Joshua’s compound in Lagos as a hellish experience, marked by severe abuse and attempts at suicide.
The SCOAN, a global church operating Christian TV channel Emmanuel TV, dismisses the allegations, stating that previous claims have been unfounded.
The investigation reveals a pattern of abuse within SCOAN, with more than 25 former disciples sharing their experiences.
The testimonies span various countries, including the UK, Nigeria, the US, South Africa, Ghana, Namibia, and Germany.
Many victims joined the church in their teens, with some transported to Lagos by Joshua, often in coordination with UK churches.
Despite Joshua’s death in 2021, SCOAN continues under the leadership of his widow, Evelyn Joshua.
The BBC’s findings shed light on a dark chapter in the church’s history, calling for a thorough investigation into the actions of TB Joshua and accountability for the alleged abuses.
The UK Foreign Office asserts it takes all reports of crime, including those involving British nationals, seriously but has not responded specifically to claims made in the investigation. -BBC/Online

By A Correspondent| Zimparks has announced the death of six elephants in Gwayi.
The news was confirmed by Zimparks spokesperson Tinashe Farawo in a tweet that sent shockwaves through conservation circles and the wider Zimbabwean community.
“6 elephants were found dead in Gwayi,” Farawo’s tweet stated, “Zimparks vet doctors are investigating the cause of deaths.”
The Gwayi River, which snakes through the heart of the park, is a vital source of water for Hwange’s diverse wildlife and was the location of the tragic discovery.
Details surrounding the elephants’ deaths remain scarce, with Farawo indicating that a team of Zimparks veterinarians is currently on the scene conducting a thorough investigation.
The cause of death is the primary focus, with possibilities ranging from natural causes like poisoning from ingested plants to more nefarious scenarios like poaching or accidental poisoning.
Hwange National Park, home to the largest concentration of elephants in Zimbabwe, has a long and established history of conservation success.
The discovery of six dead elephants within its borders is a significant blow, not only to the park’s elephant population but also to the country’s tourism industry, which relies heavily on Hwange’s majestic beauty and diverse wildlife.
Penhalonga, Mutare – The dramatic rescue of 15 miners trapped for days in a collapsed shaft at Redwing Mine has ignited a bitter war of words between the government and opposition forces, each claiming credit for the successful operation.
With official rescue efforts still in their early stages, the miners reportedly dug their way to freedom after being trapped for over 72 hours.
Farai Maguwu, Director of the Centre for Natural Resource Governance, celebrated their perseverance, stating, “My heart rejoices. Congrats to the Penhalonga miners who fought their way to the surface – working nonstop to rescue themselves for more than 3 days. They refused to give up hope. Give them formal mining jobs and further training in underground operations.”
The official narrative, however, paints a different picture.
Presidential Spokesperson George Charamba acknowledged the miners’ resilience but emphasized the government’s role in coordinating the rescue, highlighting the “scientific support” provided by the Zimbabwe Institute of Geoscience and Astronomy (ZINGSA) in locating the miners.
“The latest from the 11 trapped miners at Metallon Gold Mine is that 4 of their number have been rescued alive, raising hopes that the remaining miners may still be alive,” Charamba stated, subtly emphasizing the government’s involvement.
Pro-opposition and civil society figures have countered the government’s claims, pointing to the slow initial response and inadequate safety measures at the mine, which has a history of fatal accidents. They argue that the miners’ resourcefulness and the community’s unwavering support ultimately secured their freedom.
The joyful reunion of the miners and their families is overshadowed by this political squabble. Both sides use the incident to further their agendas, while crucial questions about mine safety and the plight of artisanal miners remain unaddressed.
By A Correspondent| In a startling tweet, renowned legal advocate Thabani Mpofu has issued a controversial call to action, urging citizens to “break all rules” in 2024.
The tweet comes amidst a deepening political and economic crisis in the country, with strict government measures in place to suppress dissent and prevent protests.
Advocate Mpofu, known for his fearless advocacy for justice and human rights, posted the tweet on 5 January 2024, leaving many to speculate on the implications of such a statement.
The message read, “Let’s break all rules this 2024. We need to be intentional about it. Time is not on our side. This is not a riddle.”
The call to action has ignited a firestorm of debate across social media platforms, with some interpreting it as a rallying cry against the perceived authoritarianism of the Mnangagwa regime.
The government, led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has faced widespread criticism for its handling of the political and economic challenges gripping the nation.
The country has been grappling with a deteriorating economic situation marked by hyperinflation, unemployment, and a collapsing currency.
In addition to economic woes, the political climate has become increasingly tense, with allegations of human rights abuses, censorship, and suppression of dissent.
Mnangagwa’s administration has responded to the mounting challenges by implementing stringent measures to curb protests and maintain control.
Critics argue that these measures infringe upon basic civil liberties, limiting freedom of expression and assembly.
According to the BBC, it investigated the famous Nigerian televangelist who in his lifetime built a huge global following for two years. TB Joshua, who died in 2021, in his Lagos-based church, Synagogue Church of all Nations saw members from around the world who came to his internationally televised “miracles,” “healing” and “deliverance” sessions through its Emmanuel TV.
Now, dozens of ex-Synagogue Church of all Nations members called the church “a cult” and accused Joshua of rape and forced abortions, “including instances of child abuse and people being whipped and chained,” the BBC reports.
The ex-members said that the incidents happened in a compound in Lagos.
Numerous women said in the 3-part documentary that they were sexually assaulted by Joshua and raped for years inside the compound. Some members also claimed that they went through multiple forced abortions inside the church after Joshua raped them. One of the women said she had five terminations.
A British woman, called Rae, said that she left her degree at Brighton University in 2002 after she was recruited by the church. “We all thought we were in heaven, but we were in hell, and in hell terrible things happen,” she told the BBC.
Then she said she was sexually assaulted by Joshua and at some point for two years was subjected to a form of solitary confinement. She was only 21 years old at the time.
The BBC said it spoke to more than 25 former “disciples” from the UK, Nigeria, the US, South Africa, Ghana, Namibia and Germany for the documentary.
The BBC also reports that Joshua courted white members who came to Nigeria for his “healings” specifically, to grow the church internationally and attract huge funding from pilgrims.
“Former insiders estimate Joshua made tens of millions of dollars from pilgrims and other money streams – fundraising, video sales, and stadium appearances abroad. He rose from poverty to become one of Africa’s richest pastors,” the BBC reports.
A highly religious environment, many Nigerian televangelists and famous pastors have been accused of rape and abuse by ex-members in the past. But little has come out of it as the pastors continue their careers and attract even new followers.
“Making unfounded allegations against Prophet TB Joshua is not a new occurrence… None of the allegations was ever substantiated,” the church said of the allegations.
By Political Editor- Reports coming from the United Kingdom suggest that the Rish Sunak administration is grappling with internal divisions over its endorsement of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s military coup that ousted Zimbabwe’s long-standing leader, Robert Mugabe.
Mugabe was removed by the military in November 2017, accusing his deputy, Mnangagwa, of conspiring against him.
According to Grace Mugabe, the late president’s wife, Mnangagwa had a history of plotting against Mugabe dating back to 1980.
In 2004, Mnangagwa, in collaboration with the former Information Minister, Jonathan Moyo, initiated an anti-Mugabe campaign later to be known as the Tsholotsho declaration, expressing his desire to become Zanu PF’s first secretary, challenging Mugabe’s continued leadership.
On his social media platforms, a UK-based Zimbabwean journalist, Stanley Kwenda, highlighted an excerpt from former British Africa Minister Rory Stewart’s book, “Politics on the Edge,” revealing the UK government’s miscalculation in trusting Mnangagwa as a reformist.
Kwenda paraphrased Stewart’s account of a crisis meeting at King Charles Street, where the former UK Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Catriona Laing, suggested embracing Mnangagwa without imposing conditions. Stewart proposed three conditions:
Fair elections for the opposition.
Cleaning up the voters’ roll.
Granting Zimbabwean expatriates the right to vote.
The ambassador dismissed these conditions, asserting that the opposition couldn’t win elections and Mnangagwa would not allow expatriates to vote.
Commenting on British regrets, Garikai Chaunza, a Rhodes University Journalism PhD fellow, criticised the intelligence lapse at 10 Downing Street. Chaunza argued that the British underestimated Zanu PF, perceiving it solely as Mugabe’s project. The assumption that Mnangagwa would inherit Mugabe’s authority proved wrong.
“They needed to realise that Zanu PF isn’t just one person but a militarised, institutionalised mafia organisation, a misunderstanding also shared by the opposition since it began in 1999”, he noted.
Chaunza said the British wrongly believed Mnangagwa would dismantle the military infrastructure and make decisions favouring them.
” Zanu PF is controlled by a click benefitting from actions like land seizures and economic exploitation, this organised group fiercely protects its acquired wealth. They would never allow someone they don’t trust to lead the country, fearing the loss of their ill-gotten properties and potential imprisonment. The junta removed Mugabe because the elderly leader was undermining their influence, with many facing the threat of imprisonment. It’s reassuring that the British have now understood the true nature of Zanu PF,” Chaunza further noted.

As we step into 2024, not just any year but a leap year with 366 days, the significance is not lost on those who’ve endured 44 years of ZANU PF’s oppressive rule. This is no ordinary time for those who’ve faced torture and torment. This is a year marked by defiance and resistance, specifically targeting the attempts of Emmerson Mnangagwa to establish a one-man state.
The preceding year was particularly harsh for the democratic movement, witnessing tragic events such as the loss of Tinashe Chitsungo and Bishop Tapfumaneyi Masaya. Mnangagwa’s influence was felt through election manipulation, the overturning of people’s will, recalling elected representatives, and rampant corruption, painting a grim picture of the regime.ZANU PF seems on a perilous trajectory, posing a threat to our very existence as a nation. They say a people get the leadership they deserve, and this year provides a crucial opportunity to break free from the shackles imposed by the so-called new dispensation. The current situation demands defiance and resistance from all progressive individuals in our great nation.
A one-man state is not the destiny our motherland deserves. It’s time for the strength of the people to prevail. This is not the Zimbabwe we aspire to have!
Defiance is the call of the hour, urging us to stand firm against oppressive forces or face the consequences.
Jose Mourinho has quashed rumors linking him to the role of Brazil’s next coach, refuting reports suggesting talks with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).
Despite speculation arising from Carlo Ancelotti’s contract extension with Real Madrid, making Mourinho a potential candidate, the AS Roma manager clarified that no discussions had taken place. He emphasized his agent’s directive not to engage in talks unless a club’s interest is confirmed.
Addressing his future with Roma, Mourinho expressed trust in the ownership’s honesty but remained cautious about assumptions, stating, “I haven’t signed yet,” leaving room for intrigue about his continuation with the club beyond the current season.
CCC leader President Nelson has kept his political foes guessing.
In contemplating the events of the latter days, Nelson Chamisa delivers verses that resonate with the divine:
“There is a God in heaven who reveals secrets and mysteries” (Daniel 2:28). Our #Godisinit, the presiding authority over the universe, governs nations, individuals, and earthly matters. The glory of revealing secrets belongs solely to Him, not to necromancers, heathen gods, magicians, or witch doctors.

By Farai D Hove | In a development that should see the mine owner, Scott Sakupwanya arrested, the government of Zimbabwe has announced that all 15 miners trapped at Redwing Mine have been rescued, albeit found without protective clothing.
The Information Ministry released 5 videos showing 5 miners of the 15 the state says it has rescued.
Most of the rescued do not have protective clothing for mining, which thing means the owner must be charged over unsafe practices.
Sakupwanya is one of the characters implicated in Al Jazeera’s documentary, GoldMafia that exposes the looting of billions of dollars in currency and gold to the UAE since 1993 which money is used to sponsor election terrorism in various African countries.
The govt announced a list of 15 it says it has rescued who include:
By Political Editor- The UK Government is grappling with internal divisions over its endorsement of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s military coup that ousted Zimbabwe’s long-standing leader, Robert Mugabe.

By James Gwati – Flamboyant businessman Wicknell Chivayo, a devoted member of the Johanne Masowe apostolic sect, has ignited curiosity by showering 50 congregants with Toyota Aqua vehicles, raising questions about the origin of his substantial wealth.
Chivayo, known for his ostentatious lifestyle, took to his official Instagram account to announce his latest philanthropic endeavor, disclosing an expenditure nearing USD$400,000 to acquire the vehicles for fellow worshippers.
Each Toyota Aqua, valued at USD$7,500, was reportedly handed out personally by Chivayo to 50 dedicated church members.
The businessman shared his joy in kickstarting the new year by giving back to his religious community.
In his Instagram stories, he expressed, “ABRAHAM mugovi wezvipo zve vatendi…Akaita 50 ma Aqua @ $7500 it means I’ve blessed 50 church members ndoziva kuti ndatanga gore zvakana.
It’s not much its only about 400 thousand which is very small money to spend on committed church members.”
Despite Chivayo’s seemingly altruistic actions, his acts of generosity have previously come under scrutiny.
In April of the preceding year, he gifted his church leader, Lawrence Lavious Katsiru, and Katsiru’s wife two off-road Toyota vehicles – a 2023 Hilux GR Sport and a 2023 Fortuner VX, collectively valued at US$162,000.
In June, Chivayo made a noteworthy donation of US$100,000 to the Sacred Heart Small Christian Community at St Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church in Greystone Park, Harare.
He provided a Toyota Hilux single cab and a solar system alongside the monetary contribution. This benevolence was framed as a gesture of appreciation for the support received during his mother’s funeral in 2021.
As Chivayo continues his public displays of generosity, speculations linger about the source of his wealth, prompting closer scrutiny into the businessman’s financial dealings.
By- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been sucked in the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries (PHD) church leader Prophet Walter Magaya’s US$3 Million fraud case where the controversial preacher allegedly duped a group of Israeli businessmen.
Mnangagwa and Lukashenko’s Influence on Controversial Face Patenting: A Disturbing Trend in Political Tactics
By Farai D Hove | Analysis | ZimEye | A disconcerting alignment of tactics between Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenka is raising eyebrows as both leaders seemingly employ strategies to sideline political contenders. In Zimbabwe, the banning of opposition leader Nelson Chamisa from using his own face is echoed in Belarus, where Lukashenka has granted himself lifelong immunity and restricted opposition leaders. The striking parallel intensifies when Sengezo Tshabangu, a figure in Zimbabwe, boldly claims the patenting of Chamisa’s face for the political party.
Tshabangu’s assertion, made during a recent interview with @Sources Media, claims ownership of Chamisa’s facial likeness, asserting that it now belongs to the political party. He contends that the patented face is the party’s property, legally bound, making it impossible for Chamisa to use it elsewhere. This startling claim not only sparks controversy but also prompts a critical analysis of the legal and ethical dimensions surrounding the patenting of an individual’s facial features for political gain.
The implications of such a move are profound, as it challenges established norms of personal identity and raises questions about the broader manipulation of political imagery. The audacious stance by Tshabangu prompts scrutiny into the legal standing and potential repercussions of patenting a person’s face for political purposes. It remains to be seen how legal authorities will address this novel and controversial claim.
In response to inquiries regarding the use of Chamisa’s face in political campaigns, Tshabangu appears unyielding, emphasizing the principle behind the action. Despite Chamisa’s lack of public support, Tshabangu asserts that the idea and principle supersede individual endorsements. This unapologetic approach adds another layer to the unfolding controversy, underscoring the lengths to which political actors are willing to go in adopting unconventional strategies to shape their narrative.
As Mnangagwa and Lukashenka employ tactics that curtail opposition and unconventional methods like face patenting emerge, the international community watches closely, questioning the broader implications for democratic principles and the ethical boundaries of political maneuvering. The convergence of such strategies prompts a deeper examination of the evolving landscape where political battles extend beyond ideologies to the very faces that represent them.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has enacted a controversial decree, granting himself lifelong immunity from criminal prosecution and restricting exiled opposition leaders from participating in presidential elections. This measure mirrors the actions taken by Zimbabwe’s Emmerson Mnangagwa, who banned opposition leader Nelson Chamisa from using his own image.
The decree, signed on Thursday, ostensibly applies to any former president and their family. However, critics argue that the law is tailored to secure Lukashenko’s position, as the 69-year-old leader approaches three decades of rule marked by authoritarian tactics.
The timing of this move suggests Lukashenko’s efforts to consolidate power ahead of the country’s next presidential election in 2025. The decree imposes stricter requirements for presidential candidates, making it nearly impossible for opposition figures who sought refuge in neighboring countries to run. Only citizens residing in Belarus for at least 20 years, without a foreign residence permit, are deemed eligible to contest.
The backdrop of this decision includes the tumultuous 2020 re-election of Lukashenko, widely condemned as fraudulent. The contested election triggered mass protests, resulting in the detention of over 35,000 individuals, many of whom faced torture or fled the country.
Lukashenko, often dubbed “Europe’s last dictator,” has faced international criticism, including allegations of involvement in the illegal transfer of children from Russian-occupied Ukrainian towns to Belarus. The new law shields him from accountability for actions undertaken during his presidential tenure and guarantees lifelong state protection, medical care, life and health insurance for him and his family.
Opposition leader Sviatlana Tikhanovskaya, who sought refuge in Lithuania in 2020, condemned Lukashenko’s move as a response to his “fear of an inevitable future.” She vowed that the president would be held accountable under international law, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to bring justice to around 1,500 political prisoners in Belarus.
As the political landscape in Belarus continues to face challenges, international attention remains on the authoritarian measures taken by Lukashenko and the persistent efforts of the opposition to seek justice and transparency.
Historically, fasting in the Christian tradition, as outlined in the Bible for over 3,000 years, has been a spiritual practice aimed at uplifting the downtrodden, supporting the quest for justice, and aiding the poor and wronged. It’s a period marked by deep reflection and a commitment to social and spiritual change.
The controversy stems from an incident in 2019 when, following the conclusion of ZAOGA’s fasting period, Ezekiel Guti invited Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa to speak at the AMFIC Bible College. This invitation sparked outrage due to Mnangagwa’s contentious political standing and allegations of human rights violations, including accusations of his involvement in the shooting of 17 people and the mistreatment of 50 ZAOGA members. The decision to welcome Mnangagwa with praise and worship, without addressing these serious allegations, has led to widespread criticism.
An online critique harshly labels the ZAOGA fasting tradition as both a “curse” and a “Mnangagwa ritual.” This statement reflects the growing sentiment that the church’s actions contradict the fundamental biblical principles of fasting. The criticism highlights a broader issue within religious communities, where the alignment with political figures can lead to moral and ethical dilemmas, particularly when those figures are accused of oppressive actions.
This situation raises important questions about the role of religious institutions in political matters and their responsibility to uphold the values they preach. The controversy surrounding ZAOGA’s fasting tradition underscores the tension between religious practices and social justice, challenging believers and leaders alike to reflect on the true essence of their faith and its application in the real world.- ZimEye
By A Correspondent | In a shocking and tragic incident, a man lost his life after being pushed onto the tracks of the Market-Frankford Line in Philadelphia. The horrifying moment was captured on camera, showing a physical altercation that ended with one man being pushed onto the railway tracks just as a train approached.
The incident occurred near the University of Pennsylvania on Thursday night, sparking immediate chaos and distress among onlookers. Video footage reveals the intense struggle between two men, culminating in the tragic moment when one of them, a black American man, was seen defending himself against a white male. In the heat of the confrontation, he pushed his attacker onto the tracks.
Retired Sgt. Mark Fusetti, commenting on the incident, noted that both individuals are known to SEPTA police as “destination-less riders,” often found living in the subway system. The victim, still unidentified, was pronounced dead at the scene by medics, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
Philadelphia Police Inspector Kpana Massaquoi stated that the investigation is ongoing, with the department seeking to understand the events leading up to this fatal moment. Despite the presence of multiple witnesses, as seen in the video, the department is calling for anyone with information to come forward.
In response to the incident, SEPTA temporarily suspended service on the Market-Frankford Line between 30th and 40th Street Stations. This tragedy follows a similar incident last year where a man died after being struck by a tube during a police chase.
The community and authorities are now grappling with the aftermath of this tragedy, as they try to piece together the events that led to such a devastating loss of life. The police have taken a person of interest into custody and are treating the incident as a homicide.
In a recent press conference at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema made bold statements about the political future of South Africa, sparking speculation about his potential ascent to the presidency.
Malema, who was ousted from the African National Congress (ANC) in 2012 during Jacob Zuma’s presidency, commented on Zuma’s decision to support the newly formed uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party in the upcoming general elections. While acknowledging Zuma’s right to support any party, Malema criticized this choice, suggesting Zuma was in denial about the ANC’s decline.
Malema implied that Zuma’s support would have been more strategically placed with the EFF, aiming to diminish the ANC’s parliamentary majority. He commented, “Zuma is in denial that the ANC is dead. There’s no rescuing the ANC. Zuma will just kill himself with a heart attack because those people [ANC leaders] are not in a position to be rescued by anyone, including president Mandela.”
The EFF leader distanced his party from the MK Party and sternly warned EFF members against supporting it, emphasizing party loyalty and unity. “You are a member, a supporter, a ground force, and a voter of the EFF. You can’t be half, half,” Malema stated, underscoring the importance of single-party allegiance.
Malema acknowledged the challenges of establishing a new political party, reflecting on his experience co-founding the EFF with Floyd Shivambu. Despite these challenges, he expressed optimism about the EFF’s prospects in the upcoming KwaZulu-Natal elections, citing opinion polls indicating a significant decline in ANC support.
As the political landscape in South Africa continues to evolve, Julius Malema’s assertive stance and strategic positioning place him as a key figure to watch in the nation’s political future. With his eye firmly on reducing ANC’s influence, the question arises: Is Julius Malema South Africa’s incoming president? Only time and the ballots will tell.
The Centre for Research and Development (CRD) and the Penhalonga Youth Development Trust (PYDT) are demanding accountability from the government following a catastrophic incident on Thursday, January 4, 2024, where eleven miners found themselves trapped over 100 meters below the surface.
According to CRD and PYDT, the collapse was an avoidable disaster waiting to happen, attributing it to hazardous mining practices by Betterbrands.
“Previous mining operations by Betterbrands had dangerously depleted surface and shaft pillars,” CRD and PYDT said in joint a statement.
“Uncontrolled blasting and further gold digging in old shafts led to this tragic ground collapse.”
The advocacy groups said local mining experts suggest that the collapse might have occurred between levels 4 and 5, approximately 140 to 180 meters deep.
The advocacy groups lamented the recurring loss of lives at Redwing Mine, emphasizing the lack of secured mining pits.
“At Redwing Mine, a week hardly passes without lives being lost in unsecured mining pits,” the two bodies said.
The CRD and PYDT said they had previously warned the government about the risks associated with surface mining operations conducted by Zanu PF Mabvuku-Tafara MP, Pedzisai Scott Sakupwanya’s Better Brands Mining Company.
“We foresaw that the surface mining pits would tear away pillars stabilizing the ground, leading to ground subsidence, destruction of infrastructure, and loss of lives,” CRD and PYDT stated.
Despite the warnings, the government had allowed Betterbrands to resume operations in March 2023.
“The government must account for this unfolding mining disaster at Redwing Mine,” demanded the civil society partners.
The Environmental Management Agency (EMA) had previously banned Betterbrands’ mining activities, citing violations of the EMA Act and safety regulations.
“The nation expected a government inquiry into the sustainability of Betterbrands’ mining model at Redwing,” said the two partners.
The CRD and PYDT are now urging the government to take immediate action and hold Betterbrands accountable for the loss of precious lives at Redwing Mine.
“Against all the dangers, government gave a green light again for Betterbrands to resume mining operations at Redwing in March 2023. A recent environmental survey conducted by CRD and PYDT indicate a surge in the establishment of illegal hammer mills and cyanidation tanks from 129 hammer mills and 6 cyanidation tanks in October 2021 to 774 illegal hammer mills and 28 cyanidation tanks by 31 December 2023,” the two partners stated.
“These gold processing plants have been established along farms, streams, residential areas, schools and Timber estates in Penhalonga and surrounding communities exposing citizens to worst forms of chemical contamination ,noise pollution and hazardous waste dumping that have rendered water from affected rivers unusable.
“These gold processing plants are illegally accessing gold ore for processing from porous Better brands surface mining activities. These processing plants cannot account to the government for the gold that they are processing because they are not registered.
Today over 15 lives have been probably lost in Tsapauta section of Redwing Mine concession that Better brands apportioned to Redwing Mine workers after mining the area for three years.
Betterbrands has continued to extract gold from shaft and surface pillars in Rezende 1,2 and 3 and Zaina sections of Redwing Mine concession. It will not be long before a similar disaster unfold in those areas. Without political will to stop this dangerous mining activity more lives will be lost at Redwing Mine.”
Meanwhile, Acting Minister of Local Government and Public Works, July Moyo, responded to the incident, confirming that eleven miners were trapped although insisting that they were trapped 20 meters below the surface.
He said government has activated Civil Protection structures and search and rescue operations are ongoing.
“In responding to this unfortunate accident, Government has immediately activated Civil Protection structures to deal with the critical matter of search and rescue at the mine,” Moyo said.
“The Ministry of Mines and Mining Development is leading a team of experts, including from Metallon Gold and Freda Rebecca Gold Mine of Bindura. Government would like to assure the nation and anxious families of the miners, in particular that search and rescue operations will continue into the coming days.”
The Minister assured that government would provide support to the affected families.
He directed Metallon Gold to suspend operations at Redwing Mine during the rescue efforts and emphasized the need for responsible mining to prevent future accidents.

WARRIORS striker Tinotenda Kadewere who recently completed a loan switch to Nantes from Olympique Lyonnaise enjoyed a dream debut in Nantes colours with a brace off the bench on Friday.
Barely three days after his move to Nantes, Kadewere who struggled for game time at Lyon, had a point to prove on his debut for Les Canaris, and he wasted no time in showcasing his goal-scoring capabilities after coming to his side’s rescue in the French Cup.
The striker’s two goals in three minutes made the difference in Nantes’ 4-1 victory over Pau in the French Cup at Stade de Hamaeu.
Kadewere who was introduced as a second-half substitute in Nantes French Cup match against Pau scored two goals later on in the match to seal a vital victory for his side.
With just 5 days into 2024, the forward forgot his woes at Lyon and opened his 2024 account with a double, an early warning sign that he is aiming big this year at Nantes.
The Zimbabwean striker stole the show to exhibit class and flair with 10 minutes left on the clock to give his side a 2-1 lead and then completed his brace to make it 3-1 barely three minutes later.
Kadewere was introduced in the 46th minute to mark his debut, replacing defender Jean-Kevin Duverne when Nantes were holding a slender one-nil lead over the hosts.
Two minutes after his introduction, Pau came back in the game courtesy of Florent Mollet who made it one-all.
With the teams locked at 1-1 in the 80th minute, Kadewere took the responsibility to see his team over the line with two strikes in quick succession before Kade Bamba made it 4-1 with two minutes of regulation time remaining on the clock.

Controversial claims have emerged surrounding Prophet Walter Magaya of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries, as a group of Israeli businessmen, who allege being swindled of $3 million, express their intent to seek justice internationally if not served locally.
The High Court of Zimbabwe is currently handling the case (Case No. HCH621/23), with the Israeli group represented by Doug Chanawa.
The funds, supposedly received through the Consul General of Zimbabwe in Israel, Ronny Levi Musan, appointed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has raised eyebrows.
Despite the accusations, Musan maintains confidence in the President and Zimbabwe as a secure investment destination.
The businessmen underline the rarity of a religious figure engaging in fraudulent activities, emphasizing the misuse of pictures with President Mnangagwa to deceive potential investors.
PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has approved the appointment of the Health Service Commission members.
In a statement, the Acting Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Willard Manungo said the Health Service Commission will be chaired by Civil Service Commission chair Dr Vincent Hungwe who will be deputised by highly experienced medical practitioner Dr Abigail Rugare Kangwende.
The appointment of all seven commissioners led by these two was made in terms of the Health Service Amendment Act.
All commissions dealing with State staff have, as their common chairperson, the chairperson of the Civil Service Commission.
In a statement this Friday, Acting Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Mr Willard Manungo announced the appointment of the seven commissioners.
The HSC was established through the Health Service Amendment Act of 2022, replacing the Health Services Board and is mandated to administer the conditions of service of its members in the State health services.
The other five commissioners are former Permanent Secretary for Health and Child Care Major-General (Rtd) Gerald Gwinji, Dr Edward Makondo, Mr Engelbert Mbengwa, Mrs Josephine Mwakutuya and Mrs Mercy Sibongile Gwaunza.
The commissioners to the new HSC have vast experience in health services, having served in many roles and capacities in the health sector at senior levels.
Mr Manungo said: “Dr Hungwe has been appointed in terms of Section 5 (1 )(a) of the Health Service Act, which provides that the Chairperson of the Civil Service Commission will be the Chairperson of the Health Service Commission. Apart from spearheading the whole Government performance management system in the Ministry of Health and Child Care, she coordinated the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the Ministry as well as working with the Ministry of Public Service Labour and Social Welfare in inter-ministerial SDG coordination.

In Karoi, 2,706 individuals from Mashonaland West received certification in short courses through the Angel of Hope and ZOU partnership, representing a significant initiative led by the First Lady, Her Excellency Dr A Mnangagwa.
While many commend Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa for empowering the people of Zimbabwe, some question the consequences and dub her the “Angel of Doom.”
The courses aim to equip students with diverse skills, and the graduates’ resilience and excellence in their studies are acknowledged.
However, opinions vary on the impact of these programs, with praise for visionary leadership and concerns about potential repercussions.
The Angel of Hope Foundation’s outreach to vulnerable groups, including women, youth, persons with disabilities, and children, sparks both gratitude and skepticism.
The debate continues: is Amai Her Excellency Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa truly an empowering force, or does her influence carry an ominous undertone?
By- Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries (PHD) church leader Prophet Walter Magaya has allegedly defrauded US$3 Million from a group of Israeli businessmen.
The matter is before the High Court of Zimbabwe under Case No. HCH621/23.
The fraud victims in this case, who are the Israelis, are being represented by Doug Chanawa of Chanawa Law Chambers Investments and Commercial Law.
Magaya allegedly received the amount through Ronny Levi Musan, the Consul General of Zimbabwe in Israeli appointed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Zimbabwe has been grappling with a severe electricity crisis, marked by frequent power cuts and shortages.
With Africa and the whole world eagerly waiting for the coveted tournament, it’s a gloomy scenario for soccer lovers in Zimbabwe as they likely to miss out on the action and excitement.
The situation is primarily attributed to a combination of factors, including outdated infrastructure, lack of investment, and mismanagement of resources.
These challenges have led to disruptions in daily life, affecting businesses, healthcare, and education.
The government is under pressure to address these issues and implement sustainable solutions to stabilize the power supply and support the country’s development.
The Zanu PF regime has dismally failed to address the power crisis.
By James Gwati- In a bold move, a Zimbabwean citizen, Brian Mari, has challenged the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) over irregularities in the last August polls and pushed for fresh elections.
The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) also challenged the outcome of the August 2023 polls.
Below are Mari’s arguments:
Court Application: Brian Mari takes ZEC to court, citing irregularities, including a flawed delimitation exercise, and demands a fresh election in adherence to democratic principles.
CCC Disputes Results: CCC, the opposition party, was the first to dispute the results, branding the outcome of the August 2023 elections, which declared President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the winner, as a “gigantic fraud.”
Chief Justice Named: Mari includes Chief Justice Luke Malaba as a respondent, questioning his judicial authority in Zimbabwe and seeking a declaratory order against their actions.
Demands for Investigation: Calls for Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to conduct fresh elections, an investigation by Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission into alleged abuse of office, and a Law Society inquiry into the conduct of its members, specifically lawyer Lewis Uriri.
Allegations Against Lewis Uriri: Accuses Lewis Uriri of undermining democracy by representing two opposing parties, highlighting his role as legal representative for both Chief Justice Luke Malaba and Mr. Tshabangu in separate cases.
By-Elections in Focus: Zimbabwe has witnessed by-elections following the general election in August 2023. More by-elections are scheduled for February, aiming to fill vacant positions left by CCC members recalled by Sengezo Tshabangu, who claims interim leadership of the CCC.
Stay tuned for updates on this crucial legal battle challenging the electoral integrity in Zimbabwe.

By-In a jubilant atmosphere,Mupedzanhamo Market in Mbare, the nation’s largest hub for second-hand clothing, has finally reopened its gates after nearly a year of closure.
Traders wasted no time in setting up their stalls, and a bustling crowd eagerly jostled for budget-friendly pre-loved apparel.
Yesterday witnessed a vibrant revival of the market, with hundreds flocking to the area to partake in the thrifting experience.
Rekindling the heart of commerce, traders expressed their elation at the market’s reopening, citing the challenges they faced while operating outside its confines.
Mrs. Lydia Dhaure, echoing the sentiments of many, expressed gratitude for the return to their familiar spaces, freed from the grip of space barons and daily financial demands. “We used to play a cat and mouse game with the police, but now we are happy to have retained the spaces which we used to operate, and we are grateful for that,” she shared.
Mrs. Beauty Mangachena emphasized that the reopening was long overdue, narrating the difficulties faced when selling wares outside the market.
The recurring issue of space barons, who auctioned spaces to the highest bidder, posed persistent challenges. The return to their original spaces was greeted with joy and relief.
Mrs. Caroline Torovei, after enduring four years of operating under harsh circumstances in the open, expressed newfound freedom and happiness. “I feel like I can fly with happiness because our problems have ended, and we can now trade peacefully,” she exclaimed.
Andrew Nyamupukwa, the chairperson for the Mupedzanhamo Market Committee, shared his happiness, highlighting the challenges faced during the market’s closure and commending the unity achieved post-elections.
The smooth reopening process was attributed to collaboration with the Harare City Council.
In the wake of its reopening, Mupedzanhamo Market stands as a symbol of triumph, fostering community spirit and economic resilience among its traders.
By A Correspondent| In the shadow of Penhalonga’s granite hills, a different kind of darkness burrows deep. Redwing Mine, once a symbol of local prosperity, has become synonymous with death, its shafts swallowing dreams and spitting out tragedy. This week’s collapse, trapping 11 souls, is just the latest chapter in a gruesome saga etched in blood and gold.
Residents and activists are no longer whispering; they’re screaming. “Close it down!” they demand, their voices echoing through the valley, a chorus of grief and anger. Politicians and bureaucrats scramble to offer platitudes, but their words ring hollow against the cold metal silence of the collapsed shaft.
Redwing Mine is a microcosm of Zimbabwe’s mining woes. Greed masquerading as opportunity, safety standards sacrificed on the altar of quick profits. Artisanal miners, driven by desperation, descend into the earth’s belly, chasing a glimmer of hope that often ends in an eternity of darkness.
But Redwing isn’t just a story of neglect; it’s a web of tangled allegiances. Fingers point at shadowy investors, crooked officials, and even Parliament itself, where the owner of this deadly pit wields the weight of political influence. This tragedy isn’t simply an accident; it’s a symptom of a system riddled with corruption and indifference.
The calls for closure are justified, but they aren’t enough. This isn’t about shutting down a mine; it’s about demanding accountability. Justice for the trapped, for the fallen, for the entire community scarred by this mine’s toxic legacy.
Penhalonga deserves better. It deserves an economy powered by responsible mining, not fueled by human sacrifice. It deserves a government that prioritizes lives over profits, transparency over backroom deals.
Redwing Mine can no longer be allowed to bleed Penhalonga dry. Let this tragedy be the catalyst for change, a stark reminder that some gold comes at too high a cost. Until justice is served, until safety replaces greed, the ghosts of Redwing will continue to haunt the dreams of the living.
By Wilbert Mukori| “Charovedzera charovedzera, gudo rakakwira mawere kwezviba!” so goes the Shona adage. Whose English equivalent would be some dirty habits never die!
Zimbabwe is a failed state partly because the country’s main opposition has wasted one golden opportunity to end the Zanu PF dictatorship after another. Nelson Chamisa has kicked off the New Year, 2024, with another one of his meaningless prattles!
“TRUTH IN GOVERNMENT…Where we are going, Zimbabwe shall work and function on the basis of TRUTH and nothing else. The entire government, the President’s office, our public officials and public institutions like ZBC shall work on TRUTH alone and nothing else. No lies. No propaganda or falsehoods. Zero hate. Nil malice. Behold the government of truth. #ForEveryone.” wrote Chamisa on his X page.
Since when have you, Nelson Chamisa, ever been truthful? The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect yo and your follow MDC/CCC leaders into power on the understanding you lot would implement the democratic reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections. After 23 years, including 5 in the GNU, you lot have failed to implement even one token reform. Not even one!
You have participated in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed. You were so hell bent on participating in the 2023 elections you even lied about “plugging all the vote rigging loop holes!” Even when AU and SADC dismissed the last elections as a farce CCC leaders still took up their gravy train seats making it impossible for SADC to deny Zanu PF political legitimacy.
The truth is the August 2023 elections were so flawed and illegal, they failed to produce a legitimacy government. Zimbabwe does not have a legitimate government and this has only served to reaffirm Zimbabwe position as a pariah state. No one wants to do business in a pariah state and so there will be no meaningful economic recovery. None!
Worse still, there is no prospect of any meaningful democratic reforms being implemented in the coming five years. And with no reforms it goes without saying that Zanu PF will rig the 2028 elections and CCC will participate out of greed. And so the nightmare of rigged elections and bad governance is set to continue!
The people of Zimbabwe must wake up to the political reality that as long as Zanu PF continue to enjoy the carte blanche powers to rig elections there will be no meaningful economic or political change in Zimbabwe. To get change the nation must first implement the democratic reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging elections. MDC/CCC leaders will never implement any reforms, after 23 years and nothing to show for it the penny should have dropped by now.
Just because MDC/CCC have failed to implement reforms does not mean the nation does not need reforms, we need them more than ever. Just because Chamisa and company failed to implement even one reform does not mean no one else can – the reforms are common sense and not rocket science – all we need are competent opposition leaders.
Truth! The number one truth the nation must deal with is that Chamisa and company will never implement the democratic reforms and stop Zanu PF rigging elections. Never ever! If we are ever going to implement the reforms and get out of this hell of rigged elections and bad governance then we must reject Chamisa and his idiotic prattles and think outside the box!
The accident happened between 0500-0600am today Thursday 04 January 2024.
11 people are suspected to be trapped underground about 20 metres below surface.
Cause of the collapse of the mine shaft is suspected to be an earth tremor whose source is yet to be ascertained.
The miners are suspected to have entered the mine through different shafts.
The Rescue team of Metallon Gold at Redwing Mine together with Inspectors from our Provincial Office went underground around 0900am attempting to rescue and had to retreat after noticing the ground still carving in.
The team tried again around 1200hrs and noticed that the ground had collapsed more.
Metallon as a company has indicated that it has sufficient capacity to carry out the rescue mission.
More cracks developed on surface and subsidence was noticed on surface around the mine.
The ground is still curving in. It appears like the miners had mined out support pillars.
I have established that Metallon Gold Redwing has been tributing mining areas at Redwing even to individuals. The shaft that collapsed was under some individuals and the people trapped were workers of the tribute. Management of tributed areas falls under the Principal owner, Metallon Gold in this case. Therefore, The Rescue team from Metallon has been leading in the rescue effort supported by Ministry of Mines and other stakeholders including ZRP and Civil Protection.
Of concern is the fact that the ground at this place is visibly cracking and subsiding and therefore is unsafe.
They will resume rescue activities tomorrow morning.
We maintain strong hope that these efforts will bear fruit.

Police in Mberengwa arrested Tawedzerwa Mahole (21) and Wilfred Tshuma (20) in connection with a murder case which occurred at Fani Village, where the suspects allegedly attacked Legejani Gumbo (23) on allegations of swallowing a twist of dagga which they were supposed to smoke together.
MIGHTY Warriors head coach Shadreck Mlauzi’s judgment in a matter he is accused of indecently assaulting a female member of the technical team has been postponed to Wednesday next week.
Mlauzi will have to wait a little longer for his judgment day after the presiding magistrate deferred the matter to the 10th of this month.
The magistrate said she had not finished writing the judgment, indicating that it would be ready on Wednesday.
Mlauzi’s trial closed in December last year where during the State’s case the complainant insisted, she was violated by the accused, while Mlauzi argued that he had a virtual relationship with the complainant which was never physical.
Allegations are that Mlauzi allegedly asked the complainant to kiss him on the lips in his room before he grabbed her shoulders and pulled her towards him to kiss her without her consent.
The Mighty Warriors coach also stands accused of instructing the complainant to report to his room and massage him while the team was in South Africa for the COSAFA Women’s Championship.
It is further alleged that Mlauzi started harassing the complainant before she filed a complaint to the COSAFA Safeguarding Officer.

By James Gwati | **Kariba** – The Kariba Police Department has launched an extensive search for Blessed Chanetsa, a 23-year-old agent working for the money transfer service Mukuru, who has mysteriously disappeared along with US$15,181. The funds, reportedly designated for client disbursement, vanished on New Year’s Day, sparking an immediate investigation.
In a press statement released Friday, the police expressed their deep concern and urged the public to provide any information that could lead to locating Chanetsa. The statement from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) read, “The ZRP is looking for a Mukuru employee, Blessed Chanetsa (23), who went missing with US$15,181 meant for disbursement to clients in Kariba on 01/01/24. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is requested to report at any nearest police station.”
The disappearance of Chanetsa not only highlights the issue of missing persons but also casts a spotlight on the security measures employed by financial institutions, particularly in the money transfer sector. The incident raises significant concerns regarding the safeguarding of client funds and the potential risks involved in such transactions.
As the police intensify their search efforts, the broader implications of this incident are becoming a topic of discussion among industry experts and clients alike. Questions are being raised about the adequacy of existing security protocols within the money transfer industry and the potential repercussions for clients who are now left in uncertainty about their funds.
The situation remains fluid, and updates are expected as the investigation progresses. The police have appealed to the community to remain vigilant and to come forward with any information that could assist in resolving this unsettling case.
The recent victory of Scott Sakupwanya in the Mabvuku-Tafara Constituency by-election has sparked controversy and criticism from the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) and political observers.
ZimEye.com has also exclusively revealed Sakupwanya’s shenanigans with Sengezo Tshabangu.
Sakupwanya, a member of the ruling party ZANU-PF, was declared the winner of the constituency’s parliamentary elections amidst allegations of voter intimidation and manipulation.
CCC activist Tapfumanei Masaya was brutally murdered in the same constituency.
Local civil society organizations have condemned the election results, citing numerous irregularities and violation of electoral laws. They say that Sakupwanya’s victory was not a fair reflection of the people’s choice and that the ruling party used its power and influence to secure his win with the help of Tshabangu.
This controversial victory has once again raised concerns about the state of democracy in Zimbabwe and highlights the need for transparent and accountable electoral processes.
In a statement CCC said :
“In the sham elections of August 2023, the citizens of Mabvuku Tafara voted for Munyaradzi Kufahakutizwi, who secured 15,934 votes. He defeated a Zanu PF #GoldMafia candidate who polled 12,038 votes, despite spending millions of dollars in vote buying.
It’s only in a Banana Republic where a losing candidate becomes part of the sitting parliamentarians. #Wakabvuta. “

DSTV’s SuperSport TV hasn’t secured the rights yet and a leaked document earlier in the week suggested that the Pay-TV Service won’t show the games.
No Free-to-air (FTA) TV in Zimbabwe has been sub-licenced by New World TV to broadcast the tournament.
By James Gwati- In a move set to impact motorists across Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) has declared an increase in toll fees effective January 5, 2024.
The toll adjustments, initially proposed in the 2024 National Budget by Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube, are particularly contentious, drawing criticism from the public.
On what are classified as “premium roads” like Harare/Beitbridge and Plumtree/Mutare, toll fees for light motor vehicles have surged from US$2 to US$4.
The increase is from US$2 to US$3 on all other roads, sparking concerns and discontent among road users.
Here are the revised toll fees for various vehicle classes:
On Premium Roads:
Light Motor-Vehicle: USD 2.00 (old tariff), USD 4.00 (new tariff)
Minibuses: USD 3.00 (old tariff), USD 6.00 (new tariff)
Buses: USD 4.00 (old tariff), USD 8.00 (new tariff)
Heavy Vehicles: USD 5.00 (old tariff), USD 10.00 (new tariff)
Haulage Trucks: USD 10.00 (old tariff), USD 20.00 (new tariff)
Residential Per Term: USD 40.00 (old tariff), USD 80.00 (new tariff)

Heavy Vehicles: USD 5.00 (old tariff), USD 8.00 (new tariff)
Haulage Trucks: USD 10.00 (old tariff), USD 15.00 (new tariff)
Residential Per Term: USD 40.00 (old tariff), USD 60.00 (new tariff)
Motorcycles remain exempted from toll fee payments.
This hike in toll fees has stirred dissatisfaction, with concerns raised about the financial burden on motorists, especially against the backdrop of economic challenges. As the changes come into effect, ZINARA faces increasing scrutiny from the public and calls for a reevaluation of the toll fee adjustments.
By James Gwati-In response to a surge in applications for service extensions from retiring officers facing financial uncertainties, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) tightens regulations governing post-retirement extensions.
Many officers reaching the mandatory retirement age of 50 hesitate to retire due to a lack of financial savings or assets to sustain themselves, prompting the authorities to impose more rigorous vetting conditions on extension applications.
Under Section 22 (3) and (4) of the Police Act Chapter 11:10, officers at retirement age are permitted to extend their service.
However, the overwhelming number of extension requests received last year led to the enforcement of stricter vetting measures by police authorities.
A senior police officer, speaking anonymously, disclosed to NewsDay that a significant number of retiring officers seek contract extensions because they lack alternative sources of income for post-retirement survival.
The officer emphasized the financial challenges faced by officers, stating: “The issue is, most police officers have no savings or investments for their retirements. Owing to the meager salaries they have been earning over the years, the majority have nothing for their retirement survival so they do not want to retire.”
Even after retirement, officers continue to bear responsibilities such as supporting their families, funding education, and meeting other family needs.
The financial strain, coupled with the lump sum retirement packages in local currency, equivalent to approximately US$2,000, received by some retiring officers last year, has led many to opt for service extensions.
As Zimbabwean police officers voice concerns about inadequate remuneration, Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga faces ongoing appeals for improved conditions.
The tightening of regulations adds a layer of complexity to the officers’ decisions regarding retirement, signaling a broader issue of financial insecurity within the police force.

BY James Gwati- Five people have died in a devastating incident Thursday after a CAG bus collided head-on with a Mazda B2200 on the Karoi-Binga Road.
According to a police report, three victims lost their lives instantly at the accident scene, while two others succumbed to injuries upon hospital admission. The Mazda, carrying fifteen passengers, bore the brunt of the collision. Read the statement:
“A fatal road traffic accident unfolded at the 26 km peg along the Karoi-Binga Road on January 4, 2024, at approximately 1300 hours. The collision involved a CAG bus en route to Magunje and a Mazda B2200 traveling in the opposite direction with fifteen passengers on board. Tragically, three occupants of the Mazda Pick-up perished on the spot, with two more losing their lives upon admission to Karoi Hospital. An additional ten passengers sustained severe injuries in the harrowing incident”.
This tragic occurrence follows closely on the heels of another mishap involving a CAG bus just a week earlier.
On the Centenary-Muzarabani Road, a CAG bus failed to navigate a curve, crashing into the mountainside with 68 passengers on board.
The impact left 15 individuals with varying degrees of injuries, necessitating urgent medical attention at St Albert Mission Hospital.
Expressing deep concern over the surge in road accidents, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has appealed to public service vehicle operators to avoid overloading, emphasizing its significant contribution to accidents.
In a stern stance, the police have reiterated that private taxis or “mushika shika” vehicles will not be permitted passage through checkpoints, including those established for road safety campaigns.
South Africa Faces Scrutiny as It Takes Israel to International Court Over Genocide Allegations.
Cyril Ramaphosa with his genocide boasting colleague Emmerson Mnangagwa – file copy: copyright Agencies
By A Correspondent | ZimEye | In a stark illustration of international legal and political complexities, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recent statements contrast sharply with his government’s actions on the world stage. As South Africa gears up to confront the Israeli government in the International Court of Justice, Ramaphosa’s own rhetoric concerning similar situations, particularly in Zimbabwe, is marked by a conspicuous dissonance.
Ramaphosa has been part of a global narrative that glosses over the harsh realities in Zimbabwe, repeatedly stating that “the elections went well… the only thing that is left is to remove sanctions.” This narrative starkly conflicts with the proven genocide in Zimbabwe, publicly boasted by its perpetrator, Emmerson Mnangagwa. Mnangagwa’s open admissions and declarations about his oppressive actions, including deploying the army against election winners and his chilling remarks equating democracy with death, stand as testament to the severity of these human rights violations.
Mnangagwa’s disturbing statements, such as commanding the army to surround and beat down residents of Kuwadzana for allegedly stopping the rain, and his assertion that “dying is democracy” because the dead constitute the majority, provide a clear and explicit acknowledgment of his role in these atrocities. His rhetoric, which attempts to intertwine political governance with fatalistic and undemocratic principles, highlights a brutal regime that has systematically violated human rights.
The contrast between South Africa’s legal challenge to Israel and Ramaphosa’s active war-crime role in Zimbabwe under Mnangagwa, who has openly admitted to genocidal acts, raises significant questions about the consistency and credibility of South Africa’s standpoint understanding of international law. This dichotomy puts the spotlight on the South African leadership’s integrity and impartiality in addressing and acknowledging gross human rights violations, both within its region and globally. As the international community observes South Africa’s legal maneuvers, the integrity of its leadership in championing human rights is being scrutinized and challenged.
This is a significant escalation of international legal drama, in which the South African government is preparing to take Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over allegations of genocide, even as it faces its own legal scrutiny over past actions. This move comes at a critical time when Pretoria has been found guilty by the South African Supreme Court of genocide crimes against Zimbabweans led by Nelson Chamisa, raising questions about the government’s consistency in addressing human rights violations.
Adding complexity to South Africa’s position is a separate but related case where the government was found guilty of violating genocide laws and failing in accountability reporting over war crimes related to Zimbabwe’s 2002 elections. The Supreme Court of Appeal ordered President Zuma to disclose a previously withheld report by Justices Khampepe and Moseneke on the rigging of Zimbabwe’s presidential election. This report, requested by former President Mbeki and initially suppressed, had been sought by The Mail & Guardian under the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA). After a prolonged legal battle, the Supreme Court’s decision to make the report public was a blow to the government’s transparency record.
The forthcoming legal confrontation with Israel over its military actions in Gaza will test South Africa’s standing in the international community. Israel’s potential challenge to South Africa’s legitimacy in bringing forth the allegations is rooted in Pretoria’s historical violations of domestic and international laws concerning war crimes and genocide. This includes its controversial support for the violent overthrow of elected governments in neighboring Zimbabwe, often spearheaded by Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The South African government’s involvement in publishing falsehoods about Zimbabwe’s war-crime-ridden elections and declaring Mnangagwa the winner despite evidence of electoral violence further complicates its role as a proponent of justice in the Israel case. The South African Supreme Court’s rulings implicate the government in supporting genocide, thereby potentially undermining its moral authority in the ICJ case against Israel.
The case against Israel, focused on preventing acts of potential genocide in Gaza, has gained urgency and international support. However, South Africa’s contentious legal history, including the suppression of the Khampepe and Moseneke report and the Supreme Court’s criticism of President Zuma’s handling of the case, might affect its credibility in the international legal arena. The Supreme Court of Appeal’s description of the President’s Office conduct as “bordering on the cynical” and an “abuse of process” casts a shadow on the government’s commitment to transparency and justice.
As the international community awaits the proceedings at The Hague, the situation underscores the complex interplay of international law, domestic legal challenges, and diplomacy in addressing serious human rights violations. The outcome of this legal battle could have far-reaching implications for international law and the prosecution of genocide, as well as South Africa’s role in the global human rights landscape.- ZimEye

Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Faces Lawsuit Over “Imposter” Inclusion.
By A Correspondent | In a groundbreaking legal development, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has been hit with a lawsuit concerning its controversial inclusion of Sengezo Tshabangu, who is internationally recognized as an “imposter.” This lawsuit emerges amid the commission’s conduct of bi-elections, significantly influenced by Tshabangu’s assertions that he is the Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change party, led by Nelson Chamisa.
Justice Priscilla Chigumba
The legal action has been initiated by Brian Mari, a Zimbabwean based in South Africa, targeting a group of nine individuals. This list includes Chief Justice Luke Malaba, Zim Stats, the Attorney General, the Law Society of Zimbabwe, The Human Rights Commission, and Emmerson Mnangagwa’s lawyer, Lewis Uriri.
The core of the lawsuit is steeped in constitutional concerns. Mari’s submission states, “Should a person without authority get into parliament and change the constitution, I may suffer irreparable damage to my other rights enshrined in the constitution and law.” The argument extends to the fundamental nature of Zimbabwe’s constitution, ratified by its citizens, reflecting their collective will on governance.
Central to the case is the assertion that the constitution’s supremacy, as outlined in section 2, and its principles of good governance in section 3(2), are being compromised. These sections emphasize universal suffrage, the sanctity of free and fair elections, and adequate representation, foundational to Zimbabwe’s democracy.
This lawsuit represents a significant challenge to the Electoral Commission’s operations and raises critical questions about the legitimacy of its electoral processes. It underscores the tension between constitutional mandates and the practical realities of political maneuvering in Zimbabwe. The outcome of this legal battle is poised to have far-reaching implications for the country’s democratic framework and governance.
Zhombe: Beneath the golden glow of the African sun, a dark truth simmers in the rural district. Child marriages, a cruel theft of childhood, run rampant. Every week, an estimated five young girls trade their textbooks for bride prices, their futures sacrificed to a deeply rooted tradition fueled by poverty and parental desperation.
Member of Parliament Eddie Samambwa, his voice heavy with frustration, paints a grim picture. “Parents, the very people meant to protect these girls, become their jailers,” he laments. Blinded by the promise of meagre dowries, they surrender their daughters to the shackles of early marriage, extinguishing their dreams before they even flicker.
The consequences are stark. Schools become empty nests, echoing with the absence of girls stolen away in the bloom of youth. Education, the key to unlocking a brighter future, is cruelly ripped away, replaced by the harsh realities of domesticity and motherhood.
But Samambwa refuses to surrender. He calls for a united front, urging stakeholders – community leaders, traditional chiefs, and even the distant halls of government – to break the chains of this harmful practice. He yearns for a Zhombe where girls are not commodities, but cherished seeds of potential, ready to blossom if only given the chance.
This story is not just about statistics or blame. It’s about the stolen laughter, the silenced dreams, and the shattered innocence of countless girls. It’s a call to action, a plea to shift the narrative. To rewrite the tradition, not by erasing it, but by infusing it with the values of education, empowerment, and the fundamental right of every child – a childhood.
So, let us not forget the girls of Zhombe. Let their stolen futures ignite a fire within us, a fire that burns bright enough to illuminate a path towards a future where tradition and progress walk hand-in-hand, where girls are not brides, but builders of their own destinies.
In a significant move against unlawful land occupation, the Zimbabwe Republic Police have arrested 17 individuals accused of illegally settling at Longlands and Tantalon farms in the Beatrice area. Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national police spokesperson, confirmed these developments in a recent statement.
These arrests are part of a broader operation targeting illegal settlements in Mashonaland East, which also includes Dagbreek farms in Beatrice and Chivhu. Nyathi revealed that 14 other suspects apprehended at Longlands Farm on December 29, 2023, are currently awaiting their court appearances.
Assistant Commissioner Nyathi issued a stern warning against land barons, who have been illicitly distributing land to desperate home seekers. The police have identified several suspects believed to be involved in these illegal activities, including Michel Ndlovu, Zivengwa Mamina, Chrispen Magaya, Shadreck Chimbare, Shepherd Jongwe, Misheck Chuma, and Last Rutsvara. These individuals have been summoned for interviews with the CID in Chivhu and Beatrice.
Highlighting the legal process for land allocation, Asst Comm Nyathi stressed that only the Ministry of Land, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development is authorized to distribute agricultural land. He advised those in need of such land to approach the ministry directly.
The police’s crackdown is a clear message that unauthorized land distribution and development on private or gazetted land will be met with strict legal action. The Zimbabwe Republic Police’s commitment to enforcing the law in this matter reflects their dedication to maintaining order and respecting property rights in the country.- state media
In a stunning twist of criminal audacity, Chamunorwa Muvhuti, a 40-year-old former merchandiser at Mahomed Mussa Wholesalers, has been sentenced to two years in prison. His crime? Stealing US$195,000 from his employer and using part of this fortune to pay a substantial lobola (bride price) of US$4,426.
The Harare magistrate, Mrs. Apollonia Marutya, handed down the sentence after Muvhuti’s guilty plea. Initially facing 36 months, the term was reduced considering he was a first-time offender and didn’t prolong the court proceedings.
Muvhuti’s defense was rooted in financial desperation, claiming his employer’s insufficient pay drove him to theft. However, Mrs. Marutya emphasized the breach of trust involved, underlining the gravity of his actions.
The heist was meticulously planned. On December 21, Muvhuti, with the help of security guards Jeremiah Kwenda and Phineas Moyo, concealed himself in the shop. He broke a black portable safe from the wall using a sharp metal object and escaped with the stolen cash.
The crime unravelled on Christmas Day. Muvhuti, in Mupande Village, Chief Chitsungo in Pfungwe, was apprehended while paying lobola. Remarkably, US$186,100 was recovered from his home in Chitungwiza, along with the stolen safe.
Despite the significant recovery, the court underlined the severe breach of trust between Muvhuti and his employer, overshadowing his motivations and the familial obligations he cited in his defense. This case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of choosing illicit means to fulfill traditional obligations.- state media
THE police have arrested a suspected serial rapist who allegedly went on a rampage in Madziwa raping women and committing robberies between January and December last year.
38-year-old Luckmore Mazambani of Chakonda village in the Chief Madziwa area of Shamva, who allegedly targeted women that were alone at home before raping them, was nabbed by police on 29 December.
Mashonaland Central Police Spokesperson, Inspector Milton Mundembe said Mazambani was already on the wanted list for allegedly committing another rape case in 2021 when he sexually assaulted three victims between January and December last year.
Sometime in January 2023, the suspect allegedly invaded the house of a 47-year-old woman at night and raped her once before robbing her of her cell phone and groceries.
Mazambani, who allegedly raped two more women, is also accused of wilfully infecting his victims with HIV.
Luck ran out for Mazambani when police received a tip off and arrested him on 29 December.
Stolen property worth US$265 was recovered and the suspect was positively identified by his victims in a parade.
By Ali Matapatira | In a harrowing turn of events, a mine collapse at Redwing Mine, owned by the notorious Gold Mafia kingpin and Member of Parliament, Scott Sakupwanya, has left 11 individuals suspected to be trapped approximately 20 meters below the surface. The incident, which occurred today, Thursday, January 4, 2024, between 5:00 am and 6:00 am, has sparked fears and a frantic rescue effort in the region.
The cause of the collapse is suspected to be an earth tremor, although the exact source is yet to be confirmed. Initial reports suggest that the miners entered the mine through different shafts, compounding the complexity of the rescue operation.
Efforts to rescue the trapped individuals were initiated by the Metallon Gold team at Redwing Mine, in conjunction with inspectors from the Ministry of Mines Provincial Office. However, these attempts were met with adversity as the ground continued to cave in, forcing the rescue team to retreat. Subsequent efforts at 12:00 pm revealed that the situation had worsened.
Metallon Gold has declared its insufficient capacity to carry out the rescue mission, citing the development of more cracks on the surface and noticeable subsidence around the mine. The company has also indicated that the miners may have excavated support pillars, exacerbating the precarious conditions underground.
In a concerning revelation, it has been disclosed that Metallon Gold Redwing has been tributing mining areas, even to individuals, according to a statement from the Minister. The collapsed shaft was under the responsibility of individuals who were workers of the tribute, ultimately placing the management of the affected area under the principal owner, Metallon Gold. Consequently, the rescue effort has been spearheaded by the Metallon team, with support from the Ministry of Mines, as well as other stakeholders including the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and Civil Protection.
Expressing hope for a successful outcome, Honorable Z. Soda of the Ministry of Mines affirmed that rescue activities will resume tomorrow morning. However, concerns have been raised regarding the visible cracking and subsidence in the area, emphasizing the inherent dangers of the ongoing rescue operation.
This tragic accident has brought into sharp focus the clandestine activities of the Gold Mafia Cabal, prompting widespread scrutiny and apprehension regarding the operations within the mining industry.
TWO people from Glendale, Mazoe district have succumbed to cholera with 49 cases being recorded in the area which has been flagged as a hotspot for the epidemic.
The government has adopted a raft of measures to mitigate the spread of cholera which has hit parts of Mashonaland Central particularly Glendale in the Mazowe district.
Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Honourable Christopher Magomo said civil protection committees have been activated.
“We are working flat out to avert the spread of cholera in Mashonaland Central Province. It is not only Mazowe which has been affected but Shamva and Mazowe as well. I urge all people to exercise high standards of hygiene so that we beat this disease.”
Public gatherings and vending have since been banned in Glendale while a quarantine Centre has been set up for patients at Tsungubvi Polyclinic.
“The quarantine area is where patients screened for cholera will be cared for. We have also conducted a general clean-up. We also want to thank stakeholders who have donated aqua-tablets,” said the Ward 33 Councillor, Mr Alderman Mitchel Kasere.
Residents are also playing their part to ensure the disease is contained.
A community member said, “We have to fetch water from other sources which I think are clean because our area is hardest hit.”
“I have since adopted better hygiene standards to mitigate this disease. We are hearing of cases in our neighbourhood so we are on alert,” said another member.
Nhano area where people informally settled themselves is the worst affected area in Glendale as it has substandard ablution facilities and water wells.
Nationwide Power Outage in Zimbabwe Disrupts Businesses and Daily Life
In an unexpected turn of events, a significant technical fault at the Insukamini substation in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, led to a countrywide power outage early yesterday morning. The incident, which commenced around 05:22 hrs, caused widespread disruption, affecting businesses, traffic systems, and daily routines across the nation.
The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (Zesa) confirmed the incident, attributing the outage to a system surge caused by a busbar fault at the Insukamini 330kv substation. While power has been restored in most regions, Zesa’s technical teams are working diligently to ensure complete restoration.
The power cut severely impacted business operations, particularly in Bulawayo. Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries Matabeleland Chapter president, Mr. Joseph Gunda, expressed concerns over the shutdown of most industries, which lacked alternative power sources. Small to medium enterprises (SMEs), crucial to the economy, faced acute challenges. Mr. Nketa Mangoye Dlamini, the Bulawayo Chamber of SMEs programmes coordinator, emphasized the significant impact of lost production hours, especially for businesses involved in producing school uniforms with impending deadlines.
The outage also led to traffic chaos in busy intersections due to non-functional traffic lights, complicating the morning commute for thousands of motorists.
On a more personal front, residents like Mrs. Edith Zhou and Ms. Gladys Ndlovu shared their worries. Mrs. Zhou feared the loss of perishable food items, while Ms. Ndlovu’s concern was for her diabetes medication, which requires refrigeration.
This incident comes as a surprise, given the recent commissioning of Unit 7 and 8 of the US$1.4 billion Hwange expansion project, which added 600MW to the national grid, significantly improving power generation and reducing instances of load shedding.
As Zimbabwe grapples with this unexpected power crisis, the focus remains on Zesa’s efforts to restore normalcy and the broader implications for the country’s infrastructure resilience.
THE country has been hit by blood group ‘O’ shortages, amid revelations that the national blood bank only has one day’s supply of the precious liquid.
The festive season is associated with high demand for blood, owing to an increase in road traffic accidents.
However, the National Blood Services Zimbabwe (NBSZ) has revealed that the country is running out of blood group ‘O’ stocks.
NBSZ, Blood Donors Coordinator, Mr Tichaona Saira said, “In most cases, we experience a high demand for blood and this year the country is running out of blood group ‘O’ stock.

Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala, a prominent Zimbabwean politician and member of the opposition, has recently found himself at the centre of a legal storm that has raised concerns about political freedom and the rule of law in the country.
Sikhala’s imprisonment has sparked debate about the fairness of the legal system and the implications for democracy in Zimbabwe.
Job Sikhala, a key figure in the Citizens Coalition for Change , has a history of vocal opposition to the ruling party, ZANU-PF, and Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Known for his impassioned speeches and bold critiques, Sikhala has been a thorn in the side of the government for years. The recent turn of events leading to Sikhala’s imprisonment began with his arrest on charges of “incitement to commit public violence.”
The arrest came after he allegedly made statements at a political rally that were deemed seditious and intended to cause unrest. Sikhala, however, maintains that his words were taken out of context and that he was merely expressing political dissent.
Legal Controversies
The legal proceedings surrounding Sikhala’s case have been marred by controversy. Critics argue that the charges against him are politically motivated, intended to silence dissent and stifle opposition voices. They point to a pattern of using legal mechanisms to target political opponents, raising questions about the independence of the judiciary and the fairness of the legal process.
Sikhala’s legal team has vehemently contested the charges, highlighting procedural irregularities and alleged violations of his rights during the arrest and subsequent trial. The case has become a symbol of the broader challenges faced by those opposing the ruling party in Zimbabwe.
International Reactions
Sikhala’s imprisonment has not gone unnoticed on the international stage.
Human rights organizations and foreign governments have expressed concerns about the state of democracy and human rights in Zimbabwe. Calls for Sikhala’s release have intensified, with advocates arguing that his case is emblematic of a larger crackdown on political dissent.
The Zimbabwean government, on the other hand, maintains that Sikhala is being held accountable for his actions, emphasizing the importance of upholding law and order in the face of perceived threats to stability.
Implications for Democracy
The imprisonment of Job Sikhala raises broader questions about the state of democracy in Zimbabwe. Critics argue that the government’s actions undermine the principles of free speech, political participation, and the right to dissent—fundamental pillars of any democratic society.
The case has prompted a reexamination of the country’s commitment to democratic values and the rule of law.
As the legal proceedings continue, the fate of Job Sikhala remains uncertain. His case serves as a litmus test for the resilience of democracy in Zimbabwe and the ability of the legal system to uphold justice impartially. In conclusion, Job Sikhala’s imprisonment has become a focal point for debates on political freedom, human rights, and the rule of law in Zimbabwe. The outcome of his case will not only shape his personal destiny but also have lasting implications for the democratic landscape of the nation.

South African top-flight giants Orlando Pirates have entered the race to sign Zimbabwean defender Frank Makarati.
The Dynamos captain is wanted across Limpopo following a decent campaign in the domestic football, winning the the 2023 1 Chibuku Super Cup.
According to Soccer Laduma, Pirates have a keen interest in the 29-year-old, while another South African top-flight side Moroka Swallows are also keeping tabs on the player.
An unnamed source told the website: “He (Makarati) is attracting a lot of interest since the close of the season.
“I know there are two clubs in South Africa who are interested in him. First it was Orlando Pirates and now Moroka Swallows have also shown interest in him.
“The thing is we didn’t know whether Pirates wanted to give him a trial or they wanted to sign him straight away. And now there is Moroka Swallows.”
Makarati has also been linked with clubs in Tanzania and Zambia.
A new year, 2024 is upon us! Indeed it is not a normal year but a leap year with 366 days instead of the ordinary 365.
To most of us who have endured torture, torment and agony under 44 years of the oppressive yoke of ZANU PF, this is indeed no ordinary year!
It is a year of defiance! A year of resistance against Emmerson Mnangagwa’s one man state attempts!
This very past year was one of the worst for those in the democratic movement. From the innocent blood of Tinashe Chitsungo to the innocent soul of Bishop Tapfumaneyi Masaya, we all saw the ugly hand of Mnangagwa.
Talk of election robbery, reversal of people’s will, recall of people’s representatives, massive corruption…..the sins of this regime are just to many to count!
Clearly ZANU PF is on a deleterious path as far as our very existence as a people is concerned.
A people get leadership they deserve, so they say. This year presents a perfect opportunity to finally emerge from this hellhole situation which we found ourselves in under the so called new dispensation.
The situation calls for defiance and resistance from all progressive people of this great nation. Surely our motherland can never be a one man state!
It is time for people power. This is not the Zimbabwe we want!
