Man Rapes Own Sister At Knife Point

A warrant for the arrest of a Bikita man suspected of repeatedly raping his 14-year-old sister was issued by Masvingo Regional Magistrate Bishard Chineka last week. The accused is from the Bikita village of Chidhakwa, which is governed by Chief Mukanganwi.

The complainant, her small brother, and the accused person were at home on an unknown date in November 2021, the court was informed. Their mother had gone to the Duma Surbarb to sell firewood. The complainant was summoned by the accused to his mother’s bedroom.

She attempted to wrestle with him after he had grabbed her, but he threatened to stab her to death with a kitchen knife.

When their mother wasn’t home, the accused repeatedly sexually assaulted the complainant and made knife-wielding threats to kill her.

QOKI: Sithule Says You Can’t See The Land Cause Last Time Someone Stole The Land

The following account by Qoki investor, Thembi Bheka, attempts to narrate her concerns over the property investment scandal. She writes saying:

I have gone back and forth wondering if I should share my experience on the Qoki land. I have seen people fight for and against Qoki and Sithule. Most with no facts but emotions. I am not saying there is a right or wrong side but I think it’s important to be factual and make comments based on facts not emotions.

Because of the facts stated here, I do not think this will be deleted. If it is, it will make me wonder about Qoki and obviously ask more questions, as nothing I said here is my opinion.

I wanted to share the truth and voice my honest opinion as someone who bought land with the Qoki group.

Full disclosure: I am neither friends or enemies with Qoki or Sithule. This is my personal experience and the facts stated here do not represent and are in no way related to my company or any corporations, entities I have partnerships with.

I came across Qoki through a very trusted friend who had already bought land with them. When she told me about it, I was very excited and shared with others.

I did due diligence and spoke to several people who claimed they had received documentation regarding their purchases.

This was one of those investments based on emotion and trust more than logic. Something I never do.

When I asked to see the land, Sithule mentioned that they had a previous experience where someone had stolen the land so you could only see it after purchase, which was fair. I did see the land eventually.

Fast forward after the land was bought and I had paid, I asked for an agreement for sale. I got one between Qoki Investments Pvt Ltd ( a company privately registered under Sithule) and the seller. When I inquired about a legal agreement between me and Qoki Investments Pvt Limited since my name was not on the contract, I and other ladies were sent a 1 page document. My assumption was that once I fill that the lawyer would enter my details but it never happened.

To be honest I got so busy on my end and never followed up. Looking back, I should have. I expected that I would receive a signed copy back from Qoki but nothing was signed or on file.

The only proof I had and still have are the receipts.

In the whatsapp group a few individuals asked what was going on and the response was arrogant and one used as an intimidation tactic: ” Sis, we have bought 7 million worth of real estate, we know what we are doing.”

This brought a lot of concerns for me. There was not enough clarity and transparency.

Any questions were met with ‘we have experience, abantu beMatebeleland bahambela emuva, you are not good for progress narrative.’

This was frustrating and annoying. Even though the land seemed like a good investment relative to the price and location, the lack of professionalism and any legal documentation was and is very concerning.

I still ‘own’ this land. I do have a copy of the agreement of sale between Qoki and the seller. However, other than the receipts I paid and a bunch of voice notes promising and providing updates, I have nothing to prove ownership.

As someone who has bought private, virgin land before, I know the process. Yes it is long and tedious but also the main name registered has to have seperate agreements with other buyers

I would like to believe Sithule has no intention to scam anyone. I want to believe her intentions are good, however the lack of clarity, knowledge and transparency is very concerning.

It is clear this is a case of blind leading the blind. Which is ok if the blind can accept help from a one eyed man, but that is not the case.

An example is with the Qoki trucks and service station businesses, all of which I was interested in. As someone who is already in business, I asked for the projected statements, return on investment and things which a normal person would know and calculate before starting a business.

No one in the interest groups could answer that, the ladies who were in the group had no answer, it was a ‘ people are making it with trucks’ kinda response. I tried to offer advice based on my experience I had with business on how we need to do market research, calculate projected returns and come up with competitive advantage before investing. I was shut down very fast and told I needed to trust the process, other people are making money etc. I didn’t even bother continuing and exited the groups.

That is when I started doubting if Qoki ever did any due diligence. I still don’t know the answer but right now, I hope the land I bought is legit and subdividable and I can get a legal document or agreement of sale between me and Qoki. Off course I have started doing my own research with legal counsel and so far I don’t like what I am discovering.

As is, I do not know what happens if, God forbid something happens to Sithule as she is the only signatory representing Qoki on the land.

My name is not on the Agreement for sale as I initially was made to believe. It says Qoki Investments but there is no proof I am part of the Qoki Investments. I have no legal claim towards the investment.

The investment was portrayed as if it was a cooperative. Sadly the decisions seem to come from Sithule alone. There is no board of directors and if they exist, they definitely have never signed a document for the projects I am part of.

There was definitely a lot of misrepresentation, a lot of hype and a lot of empty promises.

Based on Facebook posts, I was made to believe that the ladies who bought the land first were getting their title deeds and now starting the construction. It turns out, no single person has built a house or shack on the land. So clearly this is a longer process than initially portrayed.

Sithule posted plans portraying how the neighborhoods would look like. Naively, I assumed these were approved plans. It appears these are just diagrams.

I have friends and family members in all these projects cause ngamawala, I invited everyone I knew. They trusted me because they know I have invested in millions of real estate. I was a real estate investor coach and started a local chapter where I lived in Canada.
People come to me when they need real estate investing advice and this time I let them down. I let my gut down and invested based on emotions more than logic. I am embarrassed at my self for not doing enough due diligence. That is why I am speaking out.

I was personally made to believe that I would be a part of the planning process since we are collectively buying this together. We would make decisions on the type of neighborhood, roads and houses we want as women. My experience is different.

It is a one woman decision. If you ask you are labeled an enemy of progress or told to leave if you don’t want. In other groups, I hear the commenting rights have been turned off. Only admin can post.

If you ask Sithule about simple things like selling your land or what to expect, I have been told she will block you or in my case outright ignore you.

On social media, Sithule has mentioned she wanted to help people and now they are turning against her. This, sadly is a very narcissistic trait and emotionally damaging for the buyers who feel their voice is not heard.

So far, in my experience, there are many Qoki projects. I am yet to see one that has come to fruition which makes me think that either Qoki started too many initiatives and are struggling to complete, the process is way longer than was promised or this is an outright scam. I hope it’s not the latter.

My conclusion in regards to the whole investment.

I believe this was a great initiative with good intentions. I have seen projects like this become successful, But the members work together.

Unfortunately, for reasons unknown to me, Sithule wants to control everything. She is the only signatory in the paperwork I have seen. She is the admin for every FB group and everyone is a moderator. I work with business owners and entrepreneurs. I am yet to meet one who controls everything and success. I don’t even know my business FB and IG page password cause my team manages that.

I do understand that Sithule wants me to trust the process based on her word.

Unfortunately that’s not how it works in business. You need proof and proper documentation. In investments there has to be reports and updates. Even if it’s bad.

I have made bad investments too with client monies and lost a lot of money. As hard as it is, the best way is to be transparent, and come out. Believe me, it’s hard and humbling, but there is no other way around it.

And you have to be willing to take feedback from anyone, without taking offence or pretending all is normal.

The lack of professionalism and transparency from Sithule who I now believe is the only Qoki Director even though she made it sound like it’s a big entity with other people making decisions is the reason this good and well intended project might fail. Nothing else.

Investment wise, I am not sure if it was worth it. I probably won’t know until all expenses have been paid. The cost of roads, sewer and other expenses might negate the savings.

I was told to budget 4k for extra costs but I am now learning there is more.

I do hope, for my sake and other women, the projects go through. If they don’t, it will be due to lack of professionalism, honesty and experience from Qoki.

As for other investments like Trucks, businesses, service stations etc, I feel for those who invested in them because those had no business plans, just speculation nje.

Going forward, I hope Sithule will learn from these challenges and feedback and not take offence. That’s how you build and become a successful business person. By learning from mistakes, tweak and change instead of being defensive.

If you have considered investing in Qoki land and don’t mind being a silent partner who puts money, waits, and hope everything you are told is true then this would not be a bad idea.

If you like clarity, transparency and formality, then Qoki is not for you.

For now I wait and pray that there is more transparency and I get a legal document showing I own the land. At present, I am hoping that my lawyer’s initial investigations are wrong. Otherwise if true, I own nothing but a piece of state land that can’t even be sold.

In as much as I would like to applaud Sithule for this initiative as I believe It was and still is a great idea and I am sure it’s been a lot of work on her part, I am deeply concerned by the lack of transparency and professionalism.

I hope I can be proven wrong and come back here and post otherwise. For now, I will go ahead and do the proper due diligence I should have done in the first place.

I apologize to those who invested in this project trusting me. I did not do enough due diligence and I am sorry.

Communal Mining Key In Economic Development

Gold leakage solution step 1

Business Correspondent

There is need to rename artisanal miners to communal miners.

Gold leakage is a big problem affecting the country. We as Three Wingers are in the process of identifying key holes of leakage affecting the country.

One major cause is policy framework that is in favour of commercial miners which is an elephant to ant comparison by size of land , production, machinery ‘ environmental impact, employment creation and many more.

The term artisanal miners is too fancy to describe what we do ; who are we what keeps us alive which influences policy formulation by government, local authorities and environmental management agency thereby charging heavy fees that could be easier to pay if well structured and administered in an effective manner .

In order to see why name change is important we will look at how communal farmers work and other key factors that could be important in not only curbing leakage but also enhancing stability in the mining sector.

1 Gold is distributed across all districts in the country. The way gold is distributed in the country its highly possible to have more miners than communal farmers plus contrary to popular belief artisanal miners are the poorest with regular cash to dispose with no infrastructure development with lots of credit to EMA , Ministry of Mines , RDC , mining service providers , ZIMRA and many more .

Mining is the leading source of income to most youth in the county because is abundant everywhere probability of picking a gold piece if you know it is higher than chances of making a bumper harvest in some parts of the country. Because of the above gold has become a natural currency that’s exchanged every day without a receipt or anything proof of transaction . Did you know in the mining sector 10 000usd can be exchanged through car windows without facing and never to come back because of the risks involved simply because our colonial driven policies made carrying it a taboo yet its all over the country. Since its distributed across the country it becomes easy means of livelihood for an average Zimbabwean unless laws that makes making a living a crime
Short comparison of communal farmers and communal miners
Communal farmers
1 register local at village level ; same area where gold is found
2 administered local
3 get gvt input support scheme
4 don’t pay back those loans
5 cut trees indiscriminately without EAI
6 cause erosion without management plan
7 have donor back up if things don’t go well
Communal miners
1 register outside district same land where farms are found
2 administered and reports outside district
3 are siphoned not supported by gvt and are barred access to loan or funding
4 pay levies ; commissioning and pay close to 4000usd before operations
5 Report Monthly to province regardless of output
6 have to report when decommissioning
7 registered and compliant miners pay 10times more than unregistered ones in all ways you can think of .

With information above it becomes easier to operate registration which becomes brooding ground for gold leakage, gold smuggling and host of crimes .
Registered miners find it difficult to operate because of running cost that are equivalent to medium scale mining with output purely communal.

3 gold handling , processing and possession laws.
By law only the registered miner and persons registered by him can handle and sell gold .

It also says that the ore with gold should be registered together with gold and many details.

Remember l said gold is in abundance around the country what happens when an ordinary person comes across 10grams which is 500usd yet not registered to handle gold yet next door they is a unregistered gold buyer in the community.

Too many officers visiting the mine encouraging miners to runaway.
List of offices that visiting the mine
1 mines office
2 ema
3 rdc
4 gold mobilisation
5 cid minerals
6 uniformed policy
7 other

This can be solved by one stop shop system whereby we pay % that is inclusive of all other offices so that only monitoring officers will come to monitor , train asses only .

Digital reporting and returns system can further enhance and prevent
1 double pegging
2 cut cost of reporting
3 reduce corruption in the system.

4 make data easily accessible to the public
Previous history of free gold trade .

Between 2015; 16 and 17 we were allowed to deposit gold as artisanal miners no questions asked a lot of people deposited gold without fear of being arrested for trying to make a living.
Questions like where did you get the gold who is the mine owner is it registered where is the permit were not asked just you and your national registration card . To see my point of view check gold deposit trends during that period.
NB thieves are easier to track that way that putting a cumbersome method.
From the above discussion its clear that if we handle artisanal miners just like communal farmers we close gold leakage.
To do that we should have a communal miners approach in
1 levies
2 environmental management
3 decriminalisation of gold possession and communal mining related activities including handling of cyanide and explosives
4 decentralise monitoring and registration to district level later on village level.
5 set up a digital report platform for both EMA and ministry of mines…

Woman Kills Own Baby

MASVINGO- A suspected mentally challenged Mucheke woman who made headlines last week when she allegedly cut a newly born baby into pieces was remanded to May 23, 2023.
Ngonidazashe Mukanhairi (34), who appeared in court for initial remand, hailed insults and demanded she is granted the chance to explain what transpired on the day. Magistrate Rethakgetsi Silaigwana called prison officers to take her out of the court.

Mukanhairi vehemently denied killing her baby but told the court that she never slept with a man and had a bulging stomach confused for pregnancy because someone bewitched her.
She said the baby was not hers and she is being framed for killing the baby. She said she was surprised to find a rotten baby in her room. She asked the court if someone could give birth to a rotten baby.

“Let me tell the truth. Even God wants us to tell the truth. I was not pregnant, and the dead infant found in my room was not mine since never slept with a man. I was bewitched that is why I had a swollen tummy. I am a morally upright girl, you can ask Mupfinho who was taking care of me, and she will testify that she has never seen me with a man”, she said.- Masvingo Mirror

Several Feared Dead In Chivi Horror Crash

By-Several people are feared dead after four vehicles, including two haulage trucks, were involved in a pile-up and caught fire near Chibi Turn Off Tollgate along the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway Monday afternoon.

The horrific crash was sparked by two haulage trucks that collided head-on and caught fire which also started burning two light vehicles that were closely following behind one of the trucks coming from the Masvingo direction.
It is unclear how many people were in all four vehicles and whether there are any survivors as police, fire brigade and first responders from the community around the scene were still trying to put out the fire and rummage through the vehicles and trucks’ shells.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa says it is too early to talk about fatalities.

“We have our team at the scene right now and as of now, we don’t know whether there have been any deaths, how many people were in all the vehicles and what caused the accident.

“We will have a full picture once our teams have finished investigations at the scene,” he said.
Inspector Dhewa said the only available information is that two haulage trucks coming from opposite directions collided head-on and two small cars following behind one of the trucks also caught fire and were burnt.

“A Honda Fit and an Almera that was behind one of the trucks involved in the collision, also caught fire together with the two trucks “added Inspector Dhewa.

Zanu PF Frogmarchs Villagers To Rallies

By- Desperate Zanu PF officials for the Midlands Province are directing traditional leaders to force villagers to attend their meetings mainly because of poor attendance caused by disputed primary elections held in March.

Reports indicate that ZANU PF members have been snubbing meetings protesting the manner the party held its primary elections.

Thousands of bonafide members failed to vote after their names went missing from the voters’ roll giving an unfair advantage to some candidates.

ZANU PF secretary for security Lovemore Matuke will be in Gweru on Tuesday for a crisis meeting to deal with the simmering tensions.

NewsDay reported that on Friday, only 17 people attended a meeting organised by Gokwe-Nembudziya parliamentary candidate Flora Buka that was addressed by provincial political commissar Maud Ngwenya.

The meeting was held at the Nembudziya Rural District Council offices (Gokwe North) to mobilise support for the forthcoming elections.

According to a WhatsApp message that was circulated on Sunday, Buka has now called another meeting this Monday at the same venue.

She ordered chiefs and to order village heads to bring their subjects to meeting. Reads the message:

Mamuka sei nhasi, muudze masabhuku vauye nevanhu vavo vose kumusangano mangwana pa council pari kuuya national PC (good morning, can you tell the kraal heads to bring all their subjects for a meeting at the council offices which will be attended by the national PC).

Buka beat sitting MP Justice Mayor Wadyajena twice in an election the latter claimed was rigged.

ZANU PF ordered that re-runs be conducted in only five constituencies yet the party had received complaints of voter malpractices from over 150 of the 210 constituencies across the country.

ZANU PF primaries were run by Forever Associate Zimbabwe (FAZ), controlled by the Central Intelligence Organisation and Heritage, which is linked to the army, according to a report by The Standard.

A ZANU PF internal document titled Talking Points dated 27 March 2023 revealed that FAZ, led by CIO deputy director-general Walter Tapfumaneyi had the major say in the elections.

Free Duty For Groceries

By-The Government has released the list of grocery items exempted from import duty.

On Friday, the Government suspended import duty and import value-added tax (VAT) on the following 10 basic grocery items:

Maize meal, rice, milk, flour, salt, cooking oil, petroleum jelly, toothpaste, bath soap and washing powder.

The suspension of the import duty and import VAT shall be valid for six months from 12 May 2023.
The Permanent Secretary for Finance and Economic Development George Guvamatanga has since directed Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) Commissioner General Regina Chinamasa, to “urgently draft the necessary legal instrument and implement the duty suspension with effect from 12 May 2023”. Wrote Guvamatanga:
Furthermore, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce is expected to complement the measure through the inclusion of the above goods on the Open General Import Licence.
The move is in line with the measures announced by Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube on Thursday.
Among other things, Ncube said retailers and wholesalers can now keep all the foreign currency they collect from customers.
The announcement came after shops hiked prices of basic food items in response to the rapid weakening of the Zimbabwe dollar against other currencies.
The removal of import duty on products can result in lower prices for consumers and improved access to goods.
However, removing import duty may also have some negative effects such as loss of government revenue, adverse effects on domestic industries, and dependency on foreign producers.
Meanwhile, in a statement on released on Friday, Buy Zimbabwe chairperson Munyaradzi Hwengwere said the Government’s decision to scrap import duty on basic grocery items will leave the local manufacturing industry vulnerable to cheap imports.
Buy Zimbabwe called for an emergency meeting with wholesalers and retailers to map a way forward.

Parly Blocks Gold Mafia Probe

By- The Parliament of Zimbabwe has blocked any debate on the Gold Mafia documentary, recently premiered by Al Jazeera.

This follows a proposal by the Public Accounts and the Budget, Finance, and Economic Development committees to investigate allegations.

In a memorandum addressed to the two parliamentary committees, Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda said Parliament should allow the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), the central bank and the Police to conduct the investigations.
He said in reaching the decision, he was guided by the South African Government’s decision to task specialised agencies with investigating the gold smuggling and money laundering allegations raised in the Gold Mafia documentary. Reads the memo:
I wish to state from the outset that the matter is serious and of national importance.
However, it is pertinent to note that the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission and the RBZ have already started processes to investigate the matter.
In that vein, it would be improper for Parliament to embark on an inquiry on a matter that other arms of the State are investigating.
In addition, the matters are of a complex nature and may require extraterritorial visits due to the alleged involvement of foreign players.
In that regard, it is prudent to leave the investigations to specialised agencies like ZACC, and the Police are better placed to investigate matters.
Parliament will continue to monitor the investigations and will carry out its oversight role when the specialised agencies have completed their investigation.
In addition, the Portfolio Committee on Mines and Mining Development conducted an inquiry into Illicit Financial flows in the Mining Sector in the course of last year.
In reaching this decision I have also been guided by the stance taken by the South African Government which has deferred to specialised agencies regarding the same issues.
“Gold Mafia” is a four-part investigation by Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit (I-Unit) which exposed gold smuggling gangs in Southern Africa.
The gangs help criminals launder hundreds of millions of dollars, getting rich themselves while plundering their nations.
They use gold to turn dirty cash into clean, seemingly legitimate money for those with large amounts of unaccounted wealth.
The gangs do so by using a complex web of companies, counterfeit identities and fake documents.

Uebert Angel In Hiding

By- Thieving and controversial preacher Uebert Angel — who fears arrest and persecution if he returns to Zimbabwe for exposing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s role in Gold looting in Al Jazeera’s investigative Gold Mafia documentary, is now hiding in Britain.

Angel was holed up in Dubai alongside several prominent members of rival gangs exposed in the documentary as key players engaging in the looting of Zimbabwe’s gold and money laundering activities. Angel holds a British passport.
Despite being far away from Zimbabwe, Angel remains under scrutiny even in Britain, where House of Lords member Jonathan Oates has requested that he and his assistant Rikki Doolan be investigated for alleged gold smuggling, money laundering and corruption.
Oates has demanded that Angel and Doolan’s assets be frozen since they are UK citizens. Mnangagwa’s adviser Eddie Cross has indicated that Angel will be arrested on arrival in Zimbabwe. He has been holed up in Dubai studying the mood of the Zimbabwean authorities while weighing his options, before leaving for Britain.
Dubai received most of the country’s smuggled Gold. Angel was the most vocal and undiplomatic actor in the four-part investigative series which exposed that Mnangagwa had a close relationship with gold smugglers and money launderers, who claimed they were making regular payments to the President to ensure protection.
The controversial diplomat played a role in exposing Mnangagwa, his wife Auxillia, niece Henrietta Rushwaya and the President’s gold runner Pedzisai “Scott” Sakupwanya in the documentary.
One of Africa’s largest gold smugglers, Kamlesh Pattni, known as Brother Paul, who features prominently in the documentary is also in Dubai, which he described as the headquarters of Africa in the documentary.
“Dubai is the headquarters. Dubai is the centre of Africa; a banking centre, financial centre, it’s tax free,” he told undercover reporters.
Pattni has all but abandoned his Zimbabwean operations. In the 1990s, his firm Goldenberg International was at the centre of a giant scandal that robbed Kenya of US$600 million — 10% of its gross domestic product at the time.
The then president Daniel Arap Moi allowed Pattni to export Kenyan Gold at a time when the East African country was facing a Western aid embargo in return for massive incentives.
Alistair Mathias, a Canadian national who is the brains behind Ewan MacMillan’s gold operations, is also believed to be in Dubai, where he largely operates from.
Mathias allegedly launders money for people all over the world, from Russians to African politicians, using a web of companies and refineries to make sure money “gets moved around”.
A key player on the South African front, Mohammed Khan, better known as “Mo Dollars”, who made headlines as the man at the centre of the alleged money laundering scheme involving Gold and tobacco, assisting prominent business persons Simon Rudland and Gold Lead Tobacco Corp, as well as the Gupta brothers, who were at the centre of state capture allegations during former president Jacob Zuma’s tenure, has also fled to Dubai, according to various media reports.
Interestingly, he has joined the Gupta brothers who are also holed up in Dubai. A Dubai court this month rejected South Africa’s request to extradite Atul and Rajesh Gupta due to insufficient legal documentation.
Dubai police arrested the Gupta brothers in June after Interpol had issued a Red Notice against them for allegedly looting billions from state-owned companies in South Africa. The United Arab Emirates and South Africa signed fied in 2021.
Following their arrest, the South African authorities submitted an extradition request based on two cases of money laundering, fraud and corruption.
The ministry of Justice said in a statement that the Dubai Court of Appeal rejected the request following a “comprehensive and thorough legal review process” that found the documents submitted were not in line with the extradition agreement between the UAE and South Africa.
The ministry said that based on the extradition treaty, the charge of fraud should be accompanied by a copy of the arrest warrant order.
However, the submitted documents for the two accused were cancelled arrest warrant orders. Also based on the treaty, the charge of corruption should be accompanied by a copy of the arrest warrant order, the court said.
The ministry said the “submitted documents are free of the arrest warrant order of the two accused for the charge of corruption”, which also failed to meet the extradition conditions.
The ministry said it received the original extradition file from the South African authorities on 29 November, after holding several meetings.
The extradition request was referred to the prosecutors to investigate the accused concerning the charges levelled against them.
After a comprehensive investigation, the file was referred to the Court of Appeal, which held three hearings before issuing its decision.
“At every step, UAE judicial authorities briefed their South African counterparts on proceedings,” the ministry said in its statement.

Zanu PF Seke Infighting Intensifies-Mashonaland East Youth League Member’s House Petrol Bombed

By A Correspondent| The struggle for power in the aftermath of the Zanu PF primary elections in Seke District, Mashonaland East has intensified with factions aligned to both the winning and losing candidates now at each other’s throats.

According to a Zanu PF source in Mashonaland East, scores of party youths stormed a District Coordinating Committee meeting at the Seke Golf club along Masvingo road leading to fierce fist fights and several injuries.

DCC members had to flee for their lives.

Mashonaland East Police Law and Orde Section is already seized with the matter.

The youths from Nyatsime area were allegedly hired to beat up Neftery Mutizira, the Mashonaland East Youth Vice Chairperson.

Mutizira is seen as a young turk, trying to reinvigorate the party thereby stepping on the toes of some old guard who have lost primary elections and eager are to re-establish control.

The ZANU PF Political Commissar for the Province, Lincoln Matare was forced to call for an emergency meeting to build bridges.

The meeting was convened at Dema Growth point on the 13th of May 2023.

Present were Provincial members, Central Committee members and DCC members.

Matare warned party members against indiscipline and bringing the name of President Mnangangwa into disrepute.

He also warned against name dropping the President’s name.

Shockingly, that very night, the Dema home of the Youth Secretary for Business and Liaison for Mashonaland East Province, Prince Kandawasvika was allegedly petrol bombed around 2300hrs.

Interestingly, Kandawasvika called Neftery Mutizira to rush to his aid, but the latter realised his car tyres had been deflated by unknown people.

There seems to be a well-coordinated agenda to put fears in the Youth League so as to force them to resign or even eliminate them.

When contacted for comment, Kandawasvika said he believed there are members of ZANU PF eager to see him dead, in order to force a re-run or change of leadership structure at both district and Provincial level.

Dema police which attended the scene were not available for comment.

Seke District has in recent weeks become a hotbed of political indiscipline, land grabbing and associated violence by both losers and winners of primary elections.

In a related incident, the winning candidate for Ward 8 council primary elections, Kenny Kuora allegedly went on a rampage destroying houses he alleges were built on undesignated land triggering fierce fights between some ZANU PF youths.

Kenny Kuora who doubles as the headman denied the allegations.

As reported earlier by this publication, Chitungwiza Police had to arrest scores of ZANU PF land invaders in Chinhanga village.

They were later released under dubious circumstances.

Residents in Seke fear that if the party, government and law enforcement agents including the courts do not take a tough stance, the chaos will escalate.

Mnangagwa Hints On Election Dates

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said that the 2023 general elections will be held in August.

He said this while addressing thousands of ZANU PF supporters who had come to witness the commissioning of the Rwenya Bridge which was swept away in 2013.

In his address, Mnangagwa said he is releasing a little bit of information.

“Let’s keep our heritage by voting for ZANU PF. Elections will be held in August, I am releasing a little bit of information,” said Mnangagwa.

Last month President Mnangagwa said he will announce the election date before the end of May.

Addressing the same gathering, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga said the 2023 harmonised elections will take place as scheduled.

“This election is coming. It is not reversible. We ought to hold these elections in a peaceful environment.

“This is our country. We do not know of any other country other than Zimbabwe.

“Elections come and go but our relations will remain so we do not want political violence.

“My message is I will vote for President Mnangagwa. Who are you going to vote for?

“We should vote for President Mnangagwa and ZANU PF MPs and councillors.

“Here in Mudzi, you should vote for Cde Jonathan Samkange as our Member of Parliament in Mudzi South,” said Chiwenga.

The general elections must be held between 26 July and 26 August, to comply with Constitutional regulations that the election must come not more than 30 days after the expiry period of the current Parliament.

Current laws also stipulate that a proclamation can only be made 44-88 days before the election date.

Gold Mafia Criminals Must Face The Law Or The People

By Stephen Sarkozy Chuma| Gold smuggling and money laundering criminals fingered in Al Jazeera documentary, Gold Mafia must have their day in court.

We as CCC youths, we are very much concerned that more than a month after promising to arrest those fingered in Gold Mafia documentary, the police are still to arrest any of these criminals.

The police are yet to give reasons why they have not effected any arrest as yet.

The government besides Monica Mutsvangwa’s statement saying they will investigate every person fingered in the documentary has also buried its head in the sand.

Credit to our citizens representatives in Parliament who have have led the charge to have some of the Gold Mafia criminals summoned to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) this Thursday and Friday.

We will follow with keen interest on how some of the criminals like Henrietta Rushwaya and Pedzisai Scott Sakupwanya will respond to PAC questions.

Clearly there is lack of will from the police and the government to arrest gold mafia criminals.

Could it be that the involvement of Number 1 (Emmerson Mnangagwa) in the scandal makes ZRP boss Godwin Matanga to develop cold feet?Is it now a case of who will bell the cat? But of course, we, the people can bell the cat! Mnangagwa knows the power of the people very well.

Remember his “the voice of people is the voice of the God” statement after millions marched in support of removal of Robert Mugabe in 2017.

Another march this time against criminals looting our national cake with foreigners is surely necessary and needed. If the police do not arrest Gold Mafia criminals, we, the citizens must effect citizens arrest. We cannot allow the Gold Mafia issue to die a natural death. Never!

Opposition Members Attacked By Suspected Zanu PF Thugs During A Citizen Engagement Rally

Opposition United Zimbabwe Alliance (UZA) has said its members were recently attacked by suspected Zanu-PF members while it was conducting a citizen engagement exercise in Chitungwiza North.

In a statement the opposition party which is led by presidential candidate Elisabeth Valerio said it has since engaged the police.

“Members of the United Zimbabwe Alliance (UZA) were violently abducted in Chitungwiza North on 11 May 2023 by suspected ZANU-PF thugs. Our party members, who were peacefully engaging citizens ahead of the elections, were attacked and injured,” the party said in a statement.

It further alleged that the suspects were driving a black Honda fit, before attacking UZA leaders using weapons.

“The ear of one of our party members was cut with pliers. The victims have since filed a police report at Harare Central Police Station. We hope that the culprits will be brought to book and will face the full weight of the law.

“The suspected ZANU-PF members, one of whom is said to be an aspiring MP candidate, attempted to abduct our team of five members. The culprits hijacked our party vehicle and drove our members an estimated 11km out of Chitungwiza in an abduction attempt. They also robbed our members of their cash, cell phones, and other personal items,” the party fumed.

UZA said its party’s Harare provincial youth leader had to receive stitches due to injuries sustained during the attack.

“All five of our members sought medical care and counseling following the attack. As UZA, we stand in solidarity with our party members and will not be deterred by such acts of violence. This is an affront to democracy and the principles of peaceful and free campaigning. We call upon all political parties to condemn such violent acts and to ensure that peaceful and fair elections are upheld. Violence has no place in a democratic society. UZA urges everyone to exercise restraint and uphold the principles of a politically plural society in which all political parties are entitled to carry out peaceful election campaigns,” the party said.

Zim Ace Signs New Contract With EPL Giant

England-born Zimbabwean teen ace Isaac Mabaya appears to be edging closer towards a first-team breakthrough at Liverpool after signing a new contract English Premier League giants.

Mabaya, who was born in Preston to Zimbabwean parents was among the young standouts during pre-season last year, making four appearances throughout Liverpool’s season matches.

The 18-year-old academy player was deployed at right-back, but is also capable of excelling in midfield, and earned his first call-up to the England under-19s in September.

However, a long-term ankle injury has ruled Mabaya out since October, derailing his promising form with Liverpool under-21s and any further senior exposure.

However, Liverpool have signaled their faith in the highly-rated youngster, who has signed a new long-term contract.

Liverpool confirmed the news on Saturday, following similar extensions for both Luke Chambers and Jarell Quansah earlier this month.

“Isaac Mabaya has signed a new contract with Liverpool FC. The versatile Academy prospect caught the eye during a number of appearances with Jürgen Klopp’s first team in last summer’s pre-season schedule, where he was involved during the Asia tour and training camp in Austria,” Liverpool said in a statement.

“He was employed mostly as an attacking option from right-back, although he can also play in midfield. The 18-year-old first joined the Academy at the age of six and broke into the U18 team when he was 16. He has been working hard to return from a frustrating early-season injury that curtailed his progress this term and is now ready to resume his upward curve with the Reds,” the club added.

Mabaya made seven appearances for the U21s and three for the under-19s prior to his injury.

Woman Arrested For Abandoning New Born Baby

A 24-year-old woman was arrested on Tuesday after she allegedly abandoned her newborn baby in an abandoned homestead.

The woman, who has been identified as Regina Tembo, is accused of giving birth to a baby boy on April 19, 2023, and then dumping the baby in an abandoned homestead in Chinake Village, Chief Mukola Mudi.

According to the police report, Tembo was coming from Nyamayaruka Business to celebrate Independence Day when she arrived at Priscilla Chambatiras homestead seeking for help since she was complaining that her right leg was in pain.

Priscilla told Tembo she was not feeling well so she advised Tembo to wake up her grandmother. Tembo proceeded to her grandmother’s homestead which is about 20 meters from Priscilla’s homestead.

Tembo woke her grandmother and told her that her right leg was in pain. Her grandmother told Tembo that she was going to seek help and light to see how she can help her from her neighbors since she cannot see due to old age.

After about 40 meters, the grandmother heard a cry of a newborn baby from a place where she left Tembo but she did not manage to come back instead she continued with the journey of calling her Ema Fudza who is her young sister to help her to assist Tembo.

The two came back on a bid to assist Tembo but she was no longer there only seen was a pool of blood which shows that Tembo gave birth. Emma Fudza started following traces of blood drops for about 100 meter but she did not see Tembo not the baby. She then decided to come back and sleep.

On the same date around 0600hrs, Emma Fudza proceeded to Tembo’s homestead to see if she arrived home safe with the baby but upon arrival she saw Tembo’s mother Scrudzai Tembo who confirmed that Tembo was no home yet.

The two looked for Tembo and saw her at homestead but without the baby, Tembo was asked where she put the baby but she refused ever given birth to any baby.

Information reached police and they quickly reacted to the information. Constable Obvious Manhenda and Constable Charles Chare attended the scene. Upon interviewing Tembo she denied ever given birth to any baby.

Police officers continued interviewing Tembo who then agreed to the police that she gave birth to a baby boy and the baby cried showing that he was alive. Tembo went on to carry her baby for about 2 kilometers before she dumped the baby at an abandoned homestead and went away.

Tembo made indications leading the police where she dumped the baby. The baby was recovered and it was taken to Kotwa hospital where it was certified dead by Doctor before it was taken to Mortuary.

The postmortem report is in the docket and can be produced in court as exhibit.

Tembo was dragged to Mutoko Magistrate court on Friday where she appeared before Magistrate Elijah Sibanda facing charges of abandoning a child.

She is scheduled to appear in court again on May 10, 2023.

Amagumaguma Stabbed To Death For Demanding Money From A Cross Border

A Beitbridge man stabbed to death a cross-border tout notoriously known as amagumaguma  for demanding money to facilitate the passage of four border jumpers.

Amagumaguma are known for violent crimes targeting Zimbabweans illegally crossing to South Africa. Luckmore Mabvanya (21) was told to apply for bail at the High Court when he appeared before Harare Magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure on Wednesday.

He will return to court on May 22.

Allegations are that on May 3 at about 9 pm, Mabvanya was paid 400 rand by four Zimbabweans to help them illegally cross the border to the neighbouring country. They met the now deceased, name not supplied, in the bush who demanded a bribe, and he was paid 200 rand. Mabvanya managed to assist the four border jumpers cross to South Africa where he left them at Shell service station in the neighbouring country,

On his way back, he met the now deceased in the bush who demanded a top-up saying 200 rand was too little. An altercation arose and the now deceased started assaulting Mabvanya.

Mabvanya then stabbed the now deceased once in the chest and he fell down.

Suspension Of Duty On Basic Commodities Angers Local Industry

Captains of industry in Zimbabwe are sweating over the recent suspension of import duty and import value-added tax (VAT) on 10 basic groceries saying this was tantamount to exporting jobs and killing local production.

Government last week suspended import duty and import VAT on maize meal, rice, milk, flour, salt, cooking oil, petroleum jelly, toothpaste, bath soap and washing powder.

The import duty and import VAT suspension shall be valid for six months from May 12, 2023.

Finance and Economic Development permanent secretary George Guvamatanga has since directed Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) commissioner-general Regina Chinamasa, to “urgently draft the necessary legal instrument and implement the duty suspension with effect from 12 May 2023”.

The move is in line with measures announced by Finance and Economic Development minister Mthuli Ncube on Thursday.

Among other things, Ncube said retailers and wholesalers can now keep all the foreign currency they collect from customers.

CZI president Kurai Matsheza told NewsDay yesterday that the move spelt doom for the local industry.

“The lifting of duties on the 11 products has more negatives than positives on the economy. This measure means as a country we’re outsourcing the production of those products, hence exporting jobs,” Matsheza said.

“While the intention is to protect the general consumer from the price increase, the general consumer will not be importing, it’s small businesses and big to some extent who will be importing and then retailing in US dollars.

“This deepens dollarisation as basic goods will only be available in USD [supposedly at ‘low’ prices].”

Treasury’s announcement came after shops hiked prices of basic food items in response to the rapid weakening of the Zimbabwe dollar against other currencies.

Industry analysts say while the removal of import duty on products can result in lower prices for consumers and improved access to goods, removing import duty may also have some negative effects such as loss of government revenue, adverse effects on domestic industries and dependency on foreign producers.

In a statement released last week, Buy Zimbabwe chairperson Munyaradzi Hwengwere said government’s decision to scrap import duty on basic commodities will leave the local manufacturing industry vulnerable to cheap imports.

CCC Hints On Candidates Announcement

By-The country’s biggest opposition, Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC), has hinted at announcing the names of 2023 election candidates after concluding the vetting process in all constituencies and council wards across the country.

The party said it is now consulting party members to find the best candidates to represent the party.

CCC initially announced it would reveal its candidates on 11 April but later said announcing the names may expose the candidates to attacks by ZANU PF members. Fadzayi Mahere the party’s spokesperson said:
We can confirm that the process has proceeded smoothly. Candidates have been successfully nominated and vetted for each of these seats (210 constituencies and 1 971 wards). Stakeholders have been consulted.
We are currently at the citizen caucus stage where citizens will have a say on who will be the best representative for each respective community.
According to the CCC candidate selection procedures document, the process is in five parts: nomination which happened on 5 April 2023; candidate acceptance confirmation in which nominated candidates were supposed to accept the nomination; candidate vetting and announcement of candidates that would have passed the vetting stage.
The final stage will be consensus-building caucuses before the official announcement of victorious candidates who will represent the party in general elections set for August this year.
Mahere said CCC is confident of winning the upcoming general elections. She said:
We are well on course to ensure the citizens’ movement is competently and ethically represented in every community of Zimbabwe.
The citizens will have the opportunity to put a permanent end in the ballot box to the repression, persecution, hunger and poverty created by ZANU PF.
A CCC government will usher in a new Great Zimbabwe with leaders who will deliver dignity, freedom and prosperity for all.
Meanwhile, an Afrobarometer survey in February this year revealed that the opposition had a four-point advantage (48%) over the ruling ZANU PF (44%) in voting preferences.

Divisions Rock Zanu PF Mnangagwa Home Province

By- Serious divisions have rocked President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ruling Zanu PF home province of Midlands following controversial primary elections that were marred by vote rigging and violence.

The Standard reports that Zanu PF has since lined up a series of crisis meetings to cool simmering tensions and divisions following the chaotic primary polls.
It emerged that party members were shunning meetings called by some party candidates triggering fears of protest votes in the upcoming elections.
In Gokwe, former Cabinet minister Flora Buka, who beat sitting Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena on Friday called for a meeting that was attended by 17 party supporters, The Standard has established.
Zanu PF held primary elections last month, but was forced to conduct re-runs in five constituencies and 27 wards two weeks later following complaints that the initial polls were rigged.
Some party heavyweights such as Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi and Wadyajena fell by the wayside.
The party received complaints of gross voter malpractices from over 150 of the 210 constituencies across the country, raising fears that this could be Zanu PF’s worst run internal poll in recent years.
Developments across the country show that the ruling party is failing to quickly heal after the primaries with some members now shunning party meetings.
There has been a very low turnout of supporters in meetings called by the new candidates, forcing the party to deploy senior members to try to unite provincial and district structures.
Midlands and Masvingo, largely viewed as presidential contest deciders, are the most hit with internal communication showing that top party member Lovemore Matuke, who is in charge of security in the politburo, is heading to Midlands on Tuesday to try and address the fissures.
Matuke will address the provincial chairman, provincial commissar and his deputy, provincial secretary for security and the top six of all the eight district coordinating committees and executive committees in Midlands.
All the 28 party candidates for the National Assembly have also been summoned to the crunch meeting.
“Please be advised that there will be a special meeting to be addressed by the national secretary for security Cde L. Matuke and members of his delegation on (Tuesday) May 16, 2023 Time: 11am Venue: The Midlands Convention Centre — Gweru,” the notice reads.
“The meeting will discuss issues in regard to challenges being encountered by constituencies or matters related to lack of cohesion after the party primaries.”
Matuke, when contacted for comment, yesterday said party spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa would issue a detailed statement.
Mutsvangwa was not reachable for comment.
Another notice addressed to Wadyajena, the DCC chairperson and senior provincial member, Edson Chiherenge, confirmed the party’s fear over the “activities of the CCC in Gokwe North”.
“Please be advised that after noting the activities of the opposition party (CCC) in Gokwe North the province saw it fit to deploy the provincial commissar (Maud Gwenya) and her entourage to address meetings in the troubled areas you are to identify.
“The provincial commissar will be at your disposal from the afternoon of (Thursday) May 11, 2023 to (Saturday) May 13, 2023.”
Zanu PF supporters told The Standard that most people were snubbing the party because they felt the elections were rigged.
The party’s primaries were run by Forever Associate Zimbabwe (FAZ), controlled by the Central Intelligence Organisation and Heritage, which is linked to the army.
FAZ, led by CIO deputy director general Walter Tapfumaneyi had the major say in the elections, according to a Zanu PF internal document titled Talking Points dated March 27.
Mnangagwa has been coy about the election dates, but on Friday he indicated that the polls would be held in August.
A poll by a London-based public relations organisation, the SABI Strategy Group that was commissioned by the South African Brenthurst Foundation late last year said 53% of respondents said they would vote for the 45 year-old Citizens Coalition for Change leader Chamisa while 40% said they would vote for the incumbent.
An Afrobarometer survey in February this year said the opposition enjoyed a four point advantage (48%) over the ruling Zanu PF (44%) in voting preferences.

Mwonzora In Another Bid To Stop Elections

By-The MDC T leader Douglas Mwonzora has launched a fresh bid to postpone upcoming elections by approaching the High Court on Friday to stop President Emmerson Mnangagwa from proclaiming poll dates.

Last week, the ConCourt dismissed a related application by Mwonzora.
He had sought nullification of a delimitation report on new constituency boundaries that was gazetted in February, arguing it was done unprocedurally
His application was heard by a full Constitutional Court bench led by Chief Justice Luke Malaba.
On Friday, he filed yet another application seeking to have the final delimitation report declared invalid.
In his application, Mwonzora claimed the delimitation report was flawed and contained irregularities such as the opaqueness of the exercise in coming up with new boundaries.
“The delimitation report, because of its invalidity is not sufficiently informative,” Mwonzora submitted.
“I also will need to plan where to hold rallies and other meetings.
“The current delimitation report does not inform me, for example, how many people were 17 years old at the time of delimitation, but who are now 18 years old this year.
“This information will help me concentrate on where to encourage voter registration for my campaign.”
There has been controversy surrounding the delimitation report, with opposition parties and election watchdogs accusing the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) of using a wrong formula to redraw electoral boundaries.
The last delimitation was done ahead of the 2008 elections.
“The current delimitation report does not show, for example, how many people are 13 years of age and who will be 18 years in 2028,” Mwonzora said.
“This will help me to plan for that election as well…because of its non-compliance with section 161 of the constitution, the current delimitation report is invalid and cannot be the basis of a free and fair election as contemplated by our constitution.”
President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday said elections were going to be held in August.
Mwonzora last week reacted angrily to the ConCourt ruling.
In an interview with Heart and Soul TV, Mwonzora accused the ConCourt of making a political ruling.
“Judges in this country have made political decisions and I could say it in front of the Constitutional Court itself,” Mwonzora said.
“It was not a sensible judgment and it is certainly political.
“It is meant to avoid an embarrassment on the electoral body and therefore if judges do that, we must point that out and we must condemn it and that is why we are saying that we don’t agree with what the Constitutional Court did.”
Analysts accused Mwonzora of trying to torpedo the constitution on the holding of general elections.
“He was aware that elections can’t be postponed and is trying to ride on a good cause to achieve an evil outcome,” said human rights activist and Project Vote 263 founder, Youngerson Matete.
Harare-based lawyer Edwin Saungare said Mwonzora’s application was likely to be overtaken by events.
“If it’s an ordinary application, by the time it will be heard the president would have announced date for elections and the elections would be done and this application will be moot,” Saungare said. Standard

Mnangagwa Celebrates Guti’s 100th BirthDay

By-President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Sunday attended the Zimbabwe Assemblies of God Africa – Forward in Faith Ministries International (ZAOGA-FIF) founder Ezekiel Guti’s centenary celebrations at Glamis Arena in Harare.
Guti recently turned 100.
Mnangagwa paid tribute to Guti for his 75 years of preaching the Gospel and 63 years of ZAOGA’s existence in his address. He said:
On this occasion, we have gathered here to witness history. I am honoured to be part of this occasion.
We are also commemorating 75 years of preaching and 63 years of ZAOGA church.
Developments in the church are clear testimony of grace upon Ezekiel Guti. We join the country in celebrating this historic moment.
We are all witnessing this through the works of this great church. I wish to congratulate you on behalf of the country and my family on this centenary celebration of your birth.

Stop Abusing Civil Servants, Mnangagwa Told

Problem

The problem of poor salaries for civil servants, with some senior nurses earning as little as USD24 per month, is a major concern in our country. The low salaries have created immense financial hardships for civil servants and their families, affecting their quality of life and job satisfaction.

Solution

A CCC government, under the leadership of President Nelson Chamisa, will prioritize the welfare of civil servants and ensure that they are treated with dignity and respect. We will work tirelessly to review and adjust civil servants’ salaries, making sure that they are commensurate with their qualifications, skills and experience. We will also support civil servants with decent working conditions, training and career development opportunities. #RegistertovoteCCC #VoteCCC

Jah Prayzah Shuts Harare

He is skilled at getting his admirers to eat out of the palm of his hand since he is aware of what they desire. And because of that, the famous Zimbabwean musician Jah Prayzah (JP) is a unique and exceptional being.
Jah Prayzah outdid himself on Saturday night when he successfully released his 13th album, Maita Baba (Thank you God), in front of a crowded Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, preserving his position as the top current artist in the nation.

Hey, did you know that? JP released his 13th body of work on May 13 after releasing his 12th album, Chiremerera (Respect/Dignity), on May 12 in Harare. In just 24 hours, everything was successful.

Due to this, JP has made history and had his name added to the annals.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we’re gathered tonight for one man who has proven to be a G.O.A.T (greatest of all time) in his generation.

He is set to make history tonight and that has been made possible because of your undying love for him,” said the master of ceremonies Babongile Sikhonjwa while introducing JP on stage.

Wagwizi, as JP is now affectionately known, took centre stage at exactly midnight, a perfect time for a king to address and mesmerise his fans with great music.

The night was an Afro-Fusion session as he opened his stage set with the hit Tsviriyo, making a major throwback, at the same time, reminding his fans of where he came from.

During his two-hour set, JP performed songs including Nyeredzi, Dangerous, Dzamutsana and Mukwasha. His latest song featuring DJ Tira titled Tocheka was a hit as fans sang along to the joint which was released a week before the album launch.

“Bulawayo, inini nemi tabva kure (Me and you have come a long way). Today is a great night to be back in my favourite city to launch my 13th album Maita Baba.

This offering is all about giving glory to the Almighty for the blessings he bestows on us each and every day.

“The album has 13 songs and I’ve worked with talented creatives, both local as well as South African. My sisters Nomfundo Moh and Sha Sha are present tonight to endorse this project as they’re also featuring acts on the album.

What You Need To Know About Cervical Cancer

Key facts

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women globally, with an estimated 604 000 new cases and 342 000 deaths in 2020.

About 90% of the new cases and deaths worldwide in 2020 occurred in low- and middle-income countries (1).

Two human papillomavirus (HPV) types (16 and 18) are responsible for nearly 50% of high grade cervical pre-cancers
HPV is mainly transmitted through sexual contact and most people are infected with HPV shortly after the onset of sexual activity. More than 90% of them clear the infection eventually.

Women living with HIV are 6 times more likely to develop cervical cancer compared to women without HIV.

Vaccination against HPV and screening and treatment of pre-cancer lesions is a cost-effective way to prevent cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer can be cured if diagnosed at an early stage and treated promptly.

Comprehensive cervical cancer control includes primary prevention (vaccination against HPV), secondary prevention (screening and treatment of pre-cancerous lesions), tertiary prevention (diagnosis and treatment of invasive cervical cancer) and palliative care.

Overview

Worldwide, cervical cancer is the fourth most frequent cancer in women with an estimated 604 000 new cases in 2020. Of the estimated 342 000 deaths from cervical cancer in 2020, about 90% of these occur in low- and middle-income countries. Women living with HIV are 6 times more likely to develop cervical cancer compared to women without HIV, and an estimated 5% of all cervical cancer cases are attributable to HIV (2). Moreover, in all world regions the contribution of HIV to cervical cancer falls disproportionately on younger women.

In high-income countries, programmes are in place which enable girls to be vaccinated against HPV and women to get screened regularly and treated adequately. Screening allows pre-cancerous lesions to be identified at stages when they can easily be treated.

In low-and middle-income countries, there is limited access to these preventative measures and cervical cancer is often not identified until it has further advanced and symptoms develop. In addition, access to treatment of cancerous lesions (for example, cancer surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy) may be limited, resulting in a higher rate of death from cervical cancer in these countries.

The high mortality rate from cervical cancer globally (age standardized rate among women: 13.3/100 000 in 2020) could be reduced by effective interventions at different stages of life.

HPV and cervical cancer
A large majority of cervical cancer (more than 95%) is due to the human papillomavirus (HPV).

HPV is the most common viral infection of the reproductive tract. Most sexually active women and men will be infected at some point in their lives, and some may be repeatedly infected. More than 90% of the infected populations eventually clear the infection.

Cervical cancer is by far the most common HPV-related disease. Nearly all cases of cervical cancer can be attributed to HPV infection.

Although most HPV infections clear up on their own and most pre-cancerous lesions resolve spontaneously, there is a risk for all women that HPV infection may become chronic and pre-cancerous lesions progress to invasive cervical cancer.

It takes 15 to 20 years for cervical cancer to develop in women with normal immune systems. It can take only 5 to 10 years in women with weakened immune systems, such as those with untreated HIV infection.

Cervical cancer control: a comprehensive approach
The Global strategy towards eliminating cervical cancer as a public health problem, adopted by the World Health Assembly in 2020, recommends a comprehensive approach to cervical cancer prevention and control. The recommended actions include interventions across the life course.

Mabaya Pens New Deal With Liverpool

Isaac Mabaya has signed a new contract with English Premier League side Liverpool FC.

The defender, who had his first pro deal with the Reds in 2021, was born in England to Zimbabwean parents.

A statement by the Anfield giants reads: “Isaac Mabaya has signed a new contract with Liverpool Football Club.

“The versatile Academy prospect caught the eye during a number of appearances with Jürgen Klopp’s first team in last summer’s pre-season schedule, where he was involved during the Asia tour and training camp in Austria.

“He was employed mostly as an attacking option from right-back, although he can also play in midfield.

“The 18-year-old first joined the Academy at the age of six and broke into the U18 team when he was 16.

“He has been working hard to return from a frustrating early-season injury that curtailed his progress this term and is now ready to resume his upward curve with the Reds.”

Mabaya has enjoyed England recognition at U15 and U16 levels but can still switch allegiance to Zimbabwe in the future.- Soccer24 News

Elijah Mabhunu Back With A Bang

FORMER national champion Elijah Mabhunu rolled back the years to win the second edition of the Post Insurance Mr. Pace Half Marathon in Harare.

Mabhunu overcame all odds to win the Mr. Pace 21kilometre race in a time on one hour four minutes.

Starting at National Sports Stadium’s B Arena, Mabhunu dominated a field that had many Olympic hopefuls.

After being missing on the roads for a long time, he reminded everyone of his qualities after dominating from start to finish.

The soft spoken athlete stuck with the pack for just about five kilometers before he started to break away from the group and would fizzle out until the end of the race.

Mabhunu was thrilled with his win after struggling with injuries for the past five years and still holds his Olympics dream.

“I am very excited. It as been a difficult time for me because of the injuries I jad sustained, but o fought and I am back now. I hope I can qualify for the Olympics because that is my dream,” he said.

Abel Chibanda was two minutes behind Mabhunu while Misheck Mabheka was a distant third.

Mr. Pace Marathon is the brainchild of former long distance runner, Colin Makaza and is now in its second edition.

“I am happy with the turn out and we are giving athletes a platform to prepare for later international races as they want to go on for world championships said event organiser, Collin Makaza.

The sponsors are happy with the continuous growth of the marathon that attracted over 30 professional athletes as well as veterans who once dominated the sport.

“Seeing all these professional athletes come together gives us encouragement that we are supporting a good cause and imagine how many youths we have taken out of the streets who could be doing drugs, but are here today so definitely we are excited and we will support such initiatives for a long time,” noted Ian Nyanyiwa, Operations Executive Global RSK.

Mavaza: Serving the People of Corby Political Rhetoric

By Dr Masimba Masimba | The attack on the Corby Mayor Councillor Chikoto has reached another level after a local Corby journalist Sarah Ward working in cahoots with Zimbabwean activist Hopewell Chin’ono began prying on the life of the local leader.

Sarah Ward, says she will be publishing an article attacking Councillor Chikoto for having met the President of Zimbabwe.

What Sarah Ward is trying to do is to punish Chikoto for meeting his president. It is therefore clear that Ms Ward is failing to understand that newspapers have objectives. Whether it is even a main paper their objective is to serve the community needs. This means serving everyone regardless of their ethnicity or colour. This is done by not taking any side and by respecting different views. If communities disagree on an issue, a newspaper must not single out one view for vilification.

Even if you disagree as a journalist you must at a wider picture accommodate at a more fundamental principle. It is more important to respect human rights than divide people. If you work against one community you are superimposing your views. Communities strive when their views are respected and accommodated. The mark of democracy is being fair tolerant and only reporting what you understand. The measure of democracy is not how we treat our friends but how we accommodate those who are not even close to us. The promised publication by Sarah Ward is a clear sign of double standard.

The objective of responsible journalism is fairness and not victimisation. There are greater values that a responsible community can tolerate.

A surprising issue is that Sarah Ward is relying heavily on information she is receiving from one section of Zimbabwean immigrants in the United Kingdom. We listern to those whose actions do not superceed ours.

No journalist has a monopoly of defining to us what is valuable to us. Unfortunately Sarah Ward thinks she knows Zimbabwe better than the Zimbabweans.

Diversity and inclusiveness has been allowed to flourish in the United Kingdom. Prime minister in England visited his native country India and met the prime minister of India; surprisingly there is no outcry from Ward and Chin’ono.

Conceivable difference with Chikoto meeting the president of Zimbabwe is that this journalist is saying the same can not happen in an African state. If you meet an African leader and you are an African then there is a problem. It is obvious that this irritated Ward and the detractors because they were discussing issues affecting Zimbabwean community who happen to be black Zimbabweans.

Not big capitastic audience. This has made those who do not believe Africa and its leaders are human beings. When the president of Zimbabwe meets the politicians in London he advocated for investments which will benefit big investors. When the mayor Chikoto meets the president he discussed issues concerning minority black community.

This becomes a problem which is not only a race issue but a class issue. The mayor talked about relatively poor people and becomes an issue. The journalist that seek to condemn him does not even know the contents of the meetings.

This is hypocrisy when the ambassador of UK in Zimbabwe meets the president there is no issue. Is it because she is white. But the mayor is black and meets the president. What about diplomatic relations. What difference is the mayor going to make considering all British organisations are meeting the president. What about the coronation does Sarah Ward even realise that the president of Zimbabwe was in Wngland. What about the trade. These are double standards being exhibited against the first black Mayor of corby. The vice president of USA Camal went to east Africa last month.

America threatened to put sanctions on Uganda because Uganda was dealing with the law against gays. America threaten sanctions.

Ugandan MP said that was cowardly. America is treading with Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Yemen all these countries are against gays the West is bullying Africans.
You can not criticise someone because he met someone. The critiscism of the mayor is hypocritical.

MP Galloway met Saddam Hussain. He said it was hypocrisy because American defence secretary met him at the same time. Galloway said he met him for a good cause. What if the mayor met the president for a good cause. It is premitive to criticise the Mayor for meeting President Mnangagwa.

Corby has a Zimbabwean Community; he is entitled to speak on their behalf. Sanctions are said to be targeted. What if Zimbabweans want to invest in Zimbabwe. The president met Tony Blair in England, and several white Labour MPs have visited Zimbabwe.

Tony Blair represents British and American interests. Apart from racism, Tony Blair represents the British interest. He is allowed to do so. The mayor represents dual citizens who are taken as second class community.
The onslaught on the mayor is racist and of cause using Zimbabwean traitors who are after papers to stay in the UK.
There are two levels,a big interest in economic interest.

This is a financial interest. It’s more about money and largely financial.

Britain is sullivating about our minerals and there are over thirty minerals in Zimbabwe.
Now with gas and oil deposits found in Zimbabwe the onslaught on Zimbabwe is going to be high.

If Zimbabwe develops it will be a multi trillion dollar economy and that’s what they are trying to suppress. The attack on the mayor is just to demonise a nation.

The idea is to demonise Zimbabwe and to use their superiority.
It is an economic struggle where the mayor has become collateral.
Western countries demonise a country and then They come in and siphone the wealth from there.

They labelled our diamonds being supported by Hopewell Chin’ono as blood diamonds only for them to come in. They demonise Zimbabwe; they don’t want any one else to talk to the president of Zimbabwe but they will talk to him and try to own him themselves.

The principle is to silence anyone who is not talking in their interest.

President Kagame said what makes them think that they have a greater right than Russia to be in africa. They think we are their children.

The mayor of Corby is being victimised because he is black and talks do blacks.

Why does UK maintain an embassy in Zimbabwe if the president of Zimbabwe is not to be spoken to? Has Britain declared war against Zimbabwe? Have they cut off diplomatic ties? The British ambassador in Harare took photos with the president and no body talks. But the mayor is being used as a sacrificial lamb.

There is a 144 million pounds trade with Zimbabwe in favour of. Britain. It is not the Mayor selling things to Zimbabwe.

Britain has always been dealing with Zimbabwe during Ian Smith during Mugabe and now. Is it the mayor sending goods to Zimbabwe. Any human being visits his place of origin one they get a chance.

President Obama went to Kenya met the Kenyan president.

He visited his country of birth and origin. As he was there had the privilege of meeting the president. The discussions he has with the president have nothing to do with his position as a mayor. Anyone with the evidence to the contrary should come forward.
In Morden politics we have seen highly level people in positions visiting their countries of origin. Egypt Joe Biden visited Ireland. This does not stop him from being an ally of UK. Boris Johnson was born in America and during his leadership he visited America several times. He interacted with high ranking officials. Obama visited Kenya. Trump visited Scotland were he is originally from. There is nothing out of the ordinary Chikoto did.
Melanie Robinson. Ambassador.

Zimbabwe and Britain have been working on thawing their relationships it is things like this which are counter productive.
President met Andrew Mitchell. Baroness Scotland.

Invitation by head of state for UK King Charles all these are beyond the mayor. Why does Hopewell and Sarah Ward come after an innocent man. Despite all this malice Chikoto has made history and must be respected for that. The first black Corby mayor to meet the president is no villain.

Mwonzora Moves To Stop Elections Again

By-The opposition MDC-T President Douglas Mwonzora has again approached the High Court seeking the postponement of the upcoming elections.

In his application, Mwonzora claimed the delimitation report was flawed and contained irregularities such as opaqueness of the exercise in coming up with new boundaries.
Standard

Real Leaders Don’t Live to 100, They Fix Their World In Their 30s, Guti, Mnangagwa Tinyareiwo Mhani!

By Simba Chikanza | Video footage on Sunday shows the world’s most notorious ritualist and mass murderer, Emmerson Mnangagwa (80) visiting ZAOGA Church founder Ezekiel Guti who’s turned 100. Are these two men good leaders?

History suggests that real leaders don’t live to 100, they fix the world in their 30s, and exit for others having sacrificed their lives confronting dictators and criminals. Martin Luther King died at 39, Paul Of Tarsus at 56, Jesus Of Nazareth at 33, yet they all changed the world (like Finland’s top cabinet who’re young women in their 30s) and they never touched RBZ money or protected paedophiles like Guti has (with his convicted brother, Nelson who he trafficked to Canada).

Sithule Tshuma’s Own Lawyer Confirms She’s Fraudulent

The UK based property scheme ringleader, Sithule Tshuma’s own lawyer has expressed affirmations over revelations that her Mthuli Ncube supported Qoki program is totally fraudulent, a term publicised by one of the founders.

Writing in a WhatsApp group, Zibusiso Ncube, connecting to another lawyer’s findings, sounded concerns only over what he said is “panic” that the ZimEye news piece causes. He went further to narrate that there is no malice whatsoever in the article, adding that his only disputation is what he terms ‘a design to defame,’ not the factual contents revealed in the Friday night piece, an investigation conducted over the last 3 years now set for litigation in UK courts. Zi Ncube’s opinion, connected to that of another lawyer who managed to obtain a USD6,000 quick refund from the Qoki company.

The lawyer writes to ZimEye stating as follows:

I just wanted to comment on this story. I’m based in Australia and helped my mother exit this scheme some time last year. I’m a SA trained lawyer based in Australia, when my mother who’s based in Australia as well, who had opened up to me about investing in this scheme, particularly buying a piece of land I became very suspicious and asked her to share all the documents she’d been given, they looked very suspicious and did not detail any sale of land at all. With the assistance of my Zim based colleagues who are lawyers, I obtained a combo at extract of the Qoki company that had purported to purchase this land and I discovered that the directors were Sithule and others. My mother and none of the members of that scheme were shareholders, so I then started to question the basis upon which they were entitled to the land in the absence of a shareholders agreed or any memorandum of understanding setting out the initial terms of this transaction.

I reached out to Sithule who was very aggressive and I then immediately told my mother to withdraw from the scheme and obtain her whole investment of approx US$6k. I wrote a letter to Qoki via Sithule and their lawyer; it took about a week or two to get the money back. Thankfully, all of it was refunded.

My other suspicions on the Qoki schemes were that it was a ponzi type scheme, which also flagged some potential money laundering concerns.

I’m glad this has finally come to light. I wish I could have had the chance to tell you guys about the story then but I didn’t know how or who to report this to. What upset me was looking the whole Qoki and Sithule business on Facebook and seeing how they kept luring people and people genuinely believed in it.

I’m happy to provide you with a detailed account should you wish a formal comment on this story.

Many thanks
Tawanda

By Investigative Correspondent | Fraud, fraud, fraud: title deeds that never come, and shares that don’t even exist – A UK based property scam went on for 5 years while being advertised as a multiple-director run community organisation, when it was just a single person’s business, that traps buyers through ‘the instalment-concept’ in the place of an outright purchase. (video)

Sithule Tshuma with Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube in London

The entity popularly known as “QOKI ZINDLOVUKAZI GROUP C.I.C” was no CIC at all, and clearly no multiple director entity, contrary to what its owner Sithule Tshuma claimed it was. (A CIC under UK law is a community interest company).

Running the Julian-Condlife-consulted entity using bullying techniques synonymous with church cults, the NHS nursing practitioner managed to convince hundreds of “investors” to believe her claim that she was running a community interest company, when the entire joint was just a private business designed to routinely squeeze out more money under the guise of never-ending development expenses, as victims would be made to pay more after their full figure has been settled.

So deceptive was the program that even one of the Qoki founders, popularly known under the alias, Ndaba Nhuku owned up to ZimEye, saying his own siblings would never buy property through Sithule Tshuma’s Qoki company, a development that’s seen a group of some of the best UK solicitors describing the scheme as a scam, just as they now offer to assist pro bono.

The story starts around 2016 when a (self-acclaimed blesser) UK based fraud accused lawyer, Julian Condliffe, and a nurse, Sithule Tshuma were running a property-lure venture advertising saying they were empowering women or blessing them so that they get their first title deeds.

[ARE YOU ALSO A FRAUD VICTIM AND WANT TO CLAIM YOUR MONEY? CLICK THE LINK OR EMAIL THE EDITOR]

Fast forward to 2017, Sithule Tshuma would start the formal company, flanked by the so called “investor, property solicitor, blesser,” Julian (Julie) Condliffe, and Tshuma’s male colleague, who is the so called Ndaba Nhuku (not real name).

The organisation was launched on 22 April 2017 under the expertise of property solicitor, and so called investor, Julian Condliffe who announced promises using religious language that the recruits were to be blessed or empowered by her (Julian Condliffe).

Condliffe also provided expert training to the several female attendants at Crowne Plaza Hotel, in Manchester City.

Julie Condliffe and Sithule Tshuma launching the Qoki Property Investment Program together on 22 April 2017.

Sithule Tshuma would soon start claiming that the company has numerous directors. She would also claim that purchases of land done by her company will have undergone due diligence processes, which was not true. Anyone who questions or requests for clarity would and continues to be bullied and labelled titles such as ‘an enemy of progress.’

As a result, hundreds of investors are now facing an uncertain future without either title deeds or ownership-paperwork having paid over lumpsums to try securing their promised investments. The total prejudice runs in the millions of dollars. Each investor paid amounts between USD7,000 and USD70,000 per person.

The first group of several “investors” has listed areas of deception by Sithule Tshuma, being:

1. Fake Community Organisation advertised as so when it is just a single individual’s property. While Sithule Tshuma displayed her company under the prefix, CIC, which title is reserved only for companies with at least 3 directors or trustees, she also proclaimed saying she has many directors on her board when there is only one, herself.

2. Incomplete or skimpy contracts that were only signed by one party, that is: “we signed contracts adhering to payments, however, the company or Sithule did not return the signed contract to us,” as said.

Evasive answers – anyone who questions and requires for clarity was quickly shut down and on social media bullied using the term, ‘an enemy of progress.’

3. Running coordinated bullying on social media while failing to answer simple questions over products asked by a broadcaster, Ezra Sibanda. Sithule Tshuma ran various bullying campaigns against people asking her simple questions, requiring a yes or no answer.

4. Diverting conversations from Ezra Sibanda when they could have been handled there., and taking out on another journalist who was not even working on her stories. Is that normal behaviour, and not a fraudulent one?

5. 3 years later, why have you not publicised clearly to these customers that the products they are buying into are not divisible, and that they also stand to lose all their money in the event of loss of life?

6. Why are investors, who make inquiries of clarity on many of these unclear things being punished by being removed from WhatsApp groups, if it is not to bully and subdue their will power?

7. Are you not running a cult that’s simply enslaving its members?

Properties bought over the period 2016 to 2023 are still to be issued title deeds over to the buyers, and anyone who complains is bullied and harassed while being regularly ordered to pay money for land development and maintenance.

In her audios, Tshuma continued to claim that her property purchases undergo the due diligence procedure.

A content audit of audio messages by Sithule Tshuma impressing investors to pay up for land purchases, reveals rapturous high-pitched repetitions of the following cluster of electric/emotive statements, tucked at the end by a non-conclusive that tries to insulate them by saying, “it’s entirely up to you what you do with your money.”

The cluster of electric pitched up to [A# Minor, and D#Minor] repetitions contain such as follows:

Our solicitors (lawyers) have done background checks…we don’t buy dodgy land… all we want is land… each person gets title deeds for their land… it takes roughly about a month… then that’s when subdivision begins… we are buying land together… but it will fall under Qoki… all the land will be used up…
we work with the council… we check title deeds prior… this is private land that we buy and then we subdivide… you shouldn’t contact the seller, because others have done it and then we’ve lost the land in the end… so it’s entirely up to you to trust us… we don’t buy dodgy land, the land is checked, everything if its good land, that’s why we work with city council, if its dodgy land you don’t even engage the city council, they won’t just going to build… thina, we work with city council, thats ukuthi… u town planner, who works at city council, everything is done city council, by abantu e city council… so, but I am not going to give you (details) of who is the seller because our lawyer has done that because I don’t want a situation where I tell you who is the seller and then we end up jeopardising the land… ”

LAWYER’S FRAUDULENT ASSURANCE. Sithule Tshuma’s lawyer Zibusiso Charles Ncube in the conversation would at the end on his own assure buyers that per Tshuma’s words, he has truly done background checks on a piece of land owned by a ‘White guy’, indicating that, after paying the full purchase price they are going to get the Title Deeds which they (buyers) however still do not have to date.

Even the very title deed for the farm land, is still to be delivered 2 years later, as the one the lawyer supplied on 22 April 2021 was invalid, according to the Deeds Office.

Using religious terms, Zibusiso Charles Ncube posting an audio message in the WhatsApp group said in full on 1 Jan 2021, “Good evening ladies, the sun is set where I am, and I can safely say, happy new year; we want to thank the Lord for bringing us this far, it’s been a very tough year, but look, the Lord has been gracious and is still gracious, and I pray that He gives each and every one of us a prosperous, and definitely better 2021;

“Alright, Nondweni ladies, we made another instalment payment today. In terms of the subdivision of the property, we ate into the seller’s property, I think we ate into the seller’s property by 7 hectares.

“But he is an understanding guy.

“He is a fella that I also go to church with, he is Adventist.

“He is understanding, he is excited by the way we actually handled the transaction and is actually even considering selling off the entire property onto us, so with Nondweni the next stage is once we complete the instalments, and we pay the purchase price in full we shall move on now to take title (deed).

“Remember this is needed this what do you call this? A Certificate of No Present Interest, Mr Majoko the seller’s legal practitioner is handling that; I will touch base with him in the turn of the year, probably in the first week, to ascertain how far we have gone, I think we had given him up to the end of January, to procure that document, but otherwise i think we are on course.

“I believe there are surveyors who are also on the ground, they should be able to give us updates in terms of what they are doing, but otherwise I am happy with the way that we are progressing, let’s continue united as we are, and very soon we will be through. Otherwise, well done ladies, let’s keeping on!”

My own sister I told her don’t buy this kind of land

However, commenting over the development, Ndaba Nhuku told ZimEye, the Qoki method is neither reliable nor credible. He said: “… all the people who go to Qoki they opt in as individuals, they are not forced. There is no coercion, like in a church. You are asked you want to buy land, you want to buy land, you are told, this is what is available guys. Do you want to join? They join on their own.

“In land, there will be 10. 10 women. They won’t be many people.

“So, it’s not as straight forward as people who come to you complaining, whether they are 100 or what. They just want to use you, if they use you fair and fine. And then people like me will come and defend Sithule.

“Because Qoki, I founded it, and I know the principles behind Qoki. I am the founder of them, just like I told Ezra. Qoki is my baby, when I defend it I defend it knowing what is happening inside it, and knowing what. My own sister I told her don’t buy this kind of land. Go and buy your own land individually, because this land takes long to divide, the council wants you to meet certain requirements and its exhausting for an individual to make it. And all those people were told that we shall do this, do this, but they like paying small amounts, yes small amounts come with so many tags, it becomes exhausting, for people who don’t have resources who work. So, in a nutshell this is what happens with land bought by groups…”

Meanwhile, Sithule Tshuma who is on record declaring that her company is a community interest entity that has different directors, did not comment. On 1 April 2021, Tshuma, in a WhatsApp group with her lawyer Zibusiso Charles Ncube, said in part: “Even if anything had to happen to me, God forbid Qoki is an organisation with different directors. It’s a registered organisation with different directors ladies and it’s well known that Qoki is you people not an individual thing or company or whether its got different directors. The lawyers represent Qoki, not an individual, if I am making sense.”

It is this falsehood that has woken investors up following the initial investigation by VOA journalist, Ezra Sibanda.

Meanwhile, Sithule Tshuma’s lawyer Zibusiso Charles Ncube who continued to act as a sales advocate for her, repeatedly stressing a claim that Miss Tshuma is not at all fraudulent in her business so investors must pay all and any new charges forced on the investors.

When Ncube was asked by ZimEye, he reported back via phone saying the clear contradictions between Sithule’s claim to organisational structure and reality, are empty allegations being raised by the media. WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW.

Zibusiso Charles Ncube has since been reported to the Law Society Of Zimbabwe.

The investigation continues. [ARE YOU ALSO A FRAUD VICTIM AND WANT TO CLAIM YOUR MONEY? CLICK THE LINK OR EMAIL THE EDITOR]

Malema Demands The Expulsion Of US Ambassador To SA

By-The Julius Malema-led Economic Freedom Fighters, EFF, is demanding the expulsion of the United States Ambassador to South Africa, Reuben E Brigety, for allegedly interfering in the country’s internal affairs.
The call comes after Brigety last week alleged that supplied had supplied weapons and ammunition for its ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
In a statement, EFF reminded Ambassador Brigety that South Africa had the “sovereign right to determine who she trades with and who her friends are.” Reads the statement:
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) condemns the contemptuous imperialist talk of the United States Ambassador to South Africa, Reuben E Brigety on several foreign policy and diplomatic issues which could be handled through the normal diplomatic channels.
We are concerned because lately, the US Embassy in South Africa seems to be leaning towards interference with domestic and sovereign foreign policy issues that cannot and will not be dictated by an external force.
In his latest ranting, the US Ambassador hysterically demonized South Africa’s relationship with the Russian Federation and out of context spoke about the Lady R Vessel which docked in Simonstown in December 2022.
The South African Ministry of Defence has already clarified in December 2022 that the Vessel came to collect the orders made before the COVID-19 pandemic and it is consistent with international best practice to honour contractual trade obligations and relationships.
The US has absolutely no right and permission to interfere with South Africa’s sovereign right to determine who she trades with and who her friends are.
The EFF’s diplomatic and firm advice to the US Ambassador Reuben E Brigety is that he must SHUT UP on all sovereign policy decisions and relationships South Africa engages in.
South Africa is not a colonial outpost of the US and will never be one. South Africa will not be under imperialist control by the US, and the sooner this sitting Ambassador understands that the better.
The EFF is additionally concerned about Ambassadors who call Media Conferences to speak about issues that could have been handled through normal diplomatic channels.
Instead of raising false alarms with the media and making reflections on the domestic policy position of a political party, the US Ambassador should have approached the government to clarify his confusion.
There are several embassies and foreign missions from different countries in South Africa and none of them have demonstrated the misbehaviour and ill-discipline of Ambassador Reuben E Brigety.
We therefore call for the immediate dismissal of the US Ambassador from South Africa for his unbecoming, undiplomatic and outrightly irresponsible approach to diplomatic relations.
There have been US ambassadors in South Africa before and none have ever descended into the gallery in the manner demonstrated senselessly by Reuben E Brigety. He must be dismissed as urgent as possible.
The United States has no right, none whatsoever, to tell South Africa what must happen with President Vladimir Putin.
If there are people who must be arrested and appear before the International Criminals Court, it is US former President George Bush for the illegal war in Iraq and Barack Obama for the senseless assassination of Brother Leader Muammar Gadaffi.
There is no one who is going to arrest President Putin in South Africa and there is no imperialist nation that will instruct South Africa to do.
Finally, the usage of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) as a mechanism to bully South Africa or any country into imperialist compliance is unacceptable.
South Africa’s current biggest trading partner is the People’s Republic of China, and not once did we ever hear the Chinese embassy and ambassador instruct South Africa who else to trade with and what foreign policy decisions to take.

Gunman Vomits In Restaurant, Goes Berserk

By- A member of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) who vomited and damaged restaurant property in Bulawayo has been given a warrant of arrest after he defaulted court last Tuesday to answer to charges of malicious damage to property.

Ms Nomagugu Maphosa issued the warrant of arrest to Imagine Chisiyiwa (23), whose rank was not given in court, who is stationed at Induna Barracks on the outskirts of Bulawayo.
According to the State, allegations are that on 25 March this year at about 1am at a Chicken Inn outlet at the corner of Jason Moyo Street and 8th Avenue in Bulawayo, Chisiyiwa vomited at the fast food outlet seating place and was told to clean the mess by one of the staff members. A misunderstanding ensued and the accused followed one of the staff members to the manager’s office, intending to assault him.
Chisiyiwa then allegedly damaged the screen gate by forcibly pulling it using his hands causing it to fall down. He was arrested and taken to Bulawayo Central Police Station before being sent to court. He was initially remanded out of custody to 9 May, but failed to appear in court on the said date leading to the issuance of the warrant of arrest. The total value of the property damaged is yet to be ascertained.

Mnangagwa Hints On Elections Date

By- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has hinted at the dates of holding this year’s general elections.

Mnangagwa said the much-anticipated polls will be held in August.

He said this while addressing Zanu PF supporters who had come to witness the commissioning of the Rwenya Bridge, which was swept away in 2013.
Said Mnangagwa:
Let’s keep our heritage by voting for ZANU PF. Elections will be held in August, I am releasing a little bit of information.
Last month President Mnangagwa said he will announce the election date before the end of May.
Addressing the same gathering, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga said the 2023 harmonised elections will take place as scheduled. He said:
This election is coming. It is not reversible. We ought to hold these elections in a peaceful environment.
This is our country. We do not know of any other country other than Zimbabwe.
Elections come and go but our relations will remain so we do not want political violence.
My message is I will vote for President Mnangagwa. Who are you going to vote for?
We should vote for President Mnangagwa and ZANU PF MPs and councillors.
Here in Mudzi, you should vote for Cde Jonathan Samkange as our Member of Parliament in Mudzi South.
The general elections must be held between 26 July and 26 August, to comply with Constitutional regulations that the election must come not more than 30 days after the expiry period of the current Parliament.
Current laws also stipulate that a proclamation can only be made 44-88 days before the election date.

Magistrate Orders Zanu PF Thug To Remove Party Regalia

There was drama at Concession magistrates courts when a suspected ZANU PF supporter who allegedly took pictures during the party’s primary elections yesterday stormed the court dressed in party regalia to intimidate the magistrate.

Zephania Muringazuwa is facing disorderly conduct charge and threats charges and is on $20 000 bail.

The magistrate Mr Joshua Nembaware was not intimidated and ordered the suspect to go and dress properly.

In shame he walked out of the courtroom and the matter was remanded to May 16.

The state led by Precious Khanye alleged on March 25 Muringazuwa arrived at Maori Primary School where the complainant Tsekwende Chingwa was presiding over party primary elections.

He started taking pictures with his phone at the polling station and was called to order by Chingwa but he paid a deaf ear.

Chingwa warned Muringazuwa that he was committing a crime and he told her that she had no right to stop him since he was using his phone.

A police report was filed and the next day Muringazuwa threatened Chingwa with violence while at the Presidential input distribution at Meadows farm in Concession.

Another report of future violence was filed leading to Chingwa’s arrest.

Mnangagwa’s Ally Targets Journalists Who Exposed His Business Shenanigans

Journalists Sam Sole, Micah Reddy and Dewald van Rensburg, of the amaBhungane Centre for Investigative Journalism believe they are under threat of arrest because of an exposé they wrote implicating businessman Zunaid Moti in a mining deal with Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Their attorney Stephen May says in letters to senior South African Police Service (SAPS) and National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) officials that: “I have been informed that a criminal complaint has now been laid against amaBhungane and one or more journalists by Zunaid Moti or another employee in his group of companies.”

May says his clients will cooperate with any investigation and will present themselves at court if summonsed.

He says any arrest would be “patently unlawful” and would infringe on their constitutional rights, including media freedom, and any case against them is weak.

The first letter, dated 5 May this year, is addressed to the station commander at Sandton SAPS, Gauteng provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, national commissioner, Lieutenant General Fannie Masemola; and to NPA boss Shamila Batohi, NPA Gauteng head Andrew Chauke, and the Senior Public Prosecutor at Randburg court.

May says any charge against his clients is likely to be connected with the matter against Clinton van Niekerk, a former employee of the Moti Group who was arrested on charges of theft of information at Durban’s King Shaka Airport earlier this year as he was about to board an international flight.

He was held overnight and taken to Randburg magistrate’s court but he was released without charge after he obtained a court order from Acting Judge Warren Shapiro in the Durban High Court.

During that hearing, it was alleged that van Niekerk feared being taken to Sandton (and Randburg) because Moti, who was described as a dangerous man, had police connections there.Van Niekerk is reportedly now in witness protection.

A director of one of the Moti group of companies subsequently launched a court application in an attempt to overturn Shapiro’s order claiming it was a travesty of justice. That application remains part-heard.

Infant Body Stolen For Rituals ?

CHISUMBANJE–Police in Manicaland are investigating a case where the grave of a minor (1) was desecrated, and the body is missing, Manicaland Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Nobert Muzondo has confirmed.

Skies’ Only Got 6 Ambulances

The lack of ambulances in Bulawayo is having an adverse effect on the city’s health care delivery system.

Road in an Ambulance crisis

This resulted from an internal audit conducted by Bulawayo City Council (BCC), which showed that the city is only using six of the minimum 15 ambulances, or 40% of its entire establishment.

The audit also showed that the unit only has 62 employees instead of the 108 needed, which is further compromising the city’s emergency capabilities.

“We observed that the division, out of a total of 15, is only using six of its operational ambulances to meet client demand. This equates to 40% of the entire establishment. The available ambulances are utterly insufficient.

“We noted that the division is operating with a fleet of six operational ambulances out of an establishment of 15 to cater for clientele demand. This translates to 40 percent of the full establishment. The current operational ambulances are grossly inadequate considering the average daily calls of 45 to 50. Most ambulance crew members responding to our survey and interviews reported that due to a lack of ambulances and a shortage of human resources, there is an increase in workload which is now managed by few ambulance personnel manning the city,” reads part of the audit report.

The audit noted that the shortage leads to inevitable ambulance deployment problems, which meant the service’s reaction time is now beyond the stipulated 10 minutes.

“The problems arise when the demand for ambulances increases for various reasons. Due to the gross shortage, the section must respond within the stipulated standard procedure time of 10 minutes. The available ambulances cannot effectively service areas without compromising the response time, leading to some emergency calls being left unattended for hours, often leading to the loss of lives and revenue losses to the city as some patients then opt to seek alternative ambulance services,” reads the report.

Interviews conducted with the operational ambulance staff by the audit department also revealed that the personnel was overwhelmed and cannot meet the demand for ambulance services

“Discussions with senior ambulance personnel revealed that they cannot recruit operational staff because they currently operate with only six ambulances. As a result, inefficiencies among the staff members may be encountered, and failure to achieve operational objectives,” reads the report.

The audit also noted that some of the six operational ambulances are operating without the essential equipment such as patient monitors, defibrillators, medication bags, rescue splints, bandages and bag value masks.

“Failure by ambulances personnel to perform laid down standards and procedures is a violation of the standard set by the Allied Health Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe. The division on facilitates transportation to healthcare facilities excluding pre-hospital patient care,” reads the report.

As part of measures suggested to resolve the crisis within the city’s ambulance services, the audit recommended the purchase of an additional nine fully equipped ambulances together with the appointment of additional emergency medical services personnel.

Majabvi A Star In The Making

Cranborne Bullets’ goalless draw with Dynamos at the National Sports Stadium last month resulted in a lot of post-match debate.

It ignited the talk over time-wasting antics, as Dynamos coach Herbert ‘Jompano’ Maruwa complained of the ‘tricks’ after the final whistle.

“As a team, we need to come with a new strategy to get a positive result. Most of the teams are coming with delaying tactics (to frustrate us) like we saw today,” said Maruwa after the game.

“In the second half we played only 20 minutes, and the rest of the time the goalkeeper was down. Even last week (against Simba Bhora) it was the same, so these teams are coming here with delaying tactics,” he added.

The stalemate also sparked debate on whether or not Maruwa is the right man to bring back glory days in the blue half of the capital, as the Glamour Boys had failed to score for the second game in succession.

But all that post-match talk overshadowed the performance of one player —Cranborne Bullets’ Malvern Mudzuka.

Majabvi, as the lanky midfielder is affectionately-known due to his type of play which is somewhat similar to that of former Dynamos captain Justice Majabvi, put on a brilliant show in the Bullets engine room and was deservedly named man of the match.

He was also on top of his game when Nesbert ‘Yabo’ Saruchera’s charges got their first win of the season last week —a 1-0 victory over Premiership debutants Simba Bhora.

The 26-year-old former Morgan High School student has been the shining light in what has been a very tough start to the season by the army side.

Performance analyst Kudzai Chitima used Mudzuka as an example of the many underrated players in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

“As a scout, I have seen many players from the so called “big” teams being overhyped, while those from “small” teams rarely get the plaudits they deserve,” Chitima said.

“I like Malvern (Mudzuka’s) calmness on the ball, ball/space manipulation, his press resistant and ability to play in tight spaces. He is a good player,” added Chitima.

The versatile midfielder, who in 2011 went for a fairytale trial stint at Serie A giants AC Milan’s youth team organized by World Wide Scholarships, still remembers how the trip to Italy came about.

“Scouts from AC Milan came in 2011 and said they wanted one player per each age group,” recalls Mudzuka.

“I was selected in the U-15 age group and was taken on an all expenses trip to Milan for trials at the AC Milan youth team.

“We came back after two weeks and we we were told we would return to Italy in 2012. Unfortunately, the facilitator, World Wide Sports Scholarships could not manage to raise funds and we ended up not going,” he added.

Though he was naturally disappointed by the missed opportunity, Mudzuka insists the two-week stay in Milan still motivates him to work hard and play in Europe one day.

“That experience still motivates me to this day. Due to it, I keep on pushing believing that if I work hard, one day I will move to Europe,” he said.

It is the wish of every player in Zimbabwe to don the iconic gold and green Warriors strip, and Mudzuka is no exception.

“My ambition, just like every player in Zimbabwe, is to play for the national team. I know it’s not easy to get a chance because there are many good players, but it is still my ambition,” said Mudzuka.

“For now, I just want to focus on my game make progress as a player,” he added.

This was said by CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa on Thursday.

Citing the GNU era, President Chamisa pointed out how the economy can be transformed through sound policies.

“IT’S DOABLE.. We have done it before.

During the GNU, we had the highest economic growth rate with an average annual growth rate in excess of 10% during the 5 year period. We can do it again and even better.

Give us a chance to change your life and fortunes,” President Chamisa wrote on Twitter.

Take Note Of Cervical Cancer Prevention Tips

Mnangagwa Releases Prisoners

By-President Emmerson Mnangagwa has issued an amnesty to prisoners serving time for non-violent offences who had served at least one-third of their jail term by Independence Day last month.

According to the state media, this is a measure of decongesting prisons now holding more than 22 000 prisoners.
The country’s prisons have a carrying capacity of 17 000 and Presidential clemency has been used several times in the past to reduce the prison population.
The Clemency Order No 1 of 2023 was gazetted yesterday under General Notice 672B of 2023 issued by the Permanent Secretary for Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Mrs Virginia Mabiza.
The order excludes a range of prisoners, mainly violent criminals and men serving more than four years, while qualifying more women, juveniles, those with terminal illnesses and prisoners over 60.
Some men serving longer sentences can have their sentences reduced and some, but not all, excluding violent prisoners, can be released if they have served at least three quarters of their effective sentence.
All prisoners under sentence of death and on death row for 10 years have had their sentence reduced to life imprisonment and those serving life imprisonment who have served at least 20 years can be released.
Blind and disabled prisoners also go free.
The reduction of sentences to time served for those who qualify is not a pardon, since the record of their conviction and sentence stands and will almost invariably mean a much longer sentence should they reoffend in future.
Even in the present clemency order, those who were released early as a result of previous orders but then reoffended cannot benefit this time and must stay to serve the full sentence.
Executive clemency is one of those presidential powers that require Cabinet consent and usually originates in a recommendation from the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.
Prisoners barred from clemency and who have to stay in jail and serve their full terms are: those previously released on amnesty; those sentenced by courts martial; those with a record of escaping from lawful custody; and those convicted of committing one of the specified offences, which include most violent crime.
The specified offences listed in the order include: murder, treason, rape or any sexual offence, carjacking, robbery, public violence, human trafficking, unlawful possession of firearm, contravention of the Electricity Act, contravention of the Postal and Telecommunications Act, contravention of the Public Order and Security Act or the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act. The order makes it clear that those who conspired, incited or attempted any of the specified offences also stay behind bars.
According to the order, a full remission of the remaining period of imprisonment is granted to all convicted female prisoners, save for those convicted of specified offences so long as they had served one third of the sentence by 18 April this year.
All juveniles under the age of 18 go free so long as they had served a third of the sentence by 18 April with only those convicted of public violence staying inside. Age determination will be based on the birth certificate or dental age estimation.
Male prisoners who were sentenced to 48 months and below and have served one third of their sentence by April 18 can be released provided they were not convicted for specified offences. Those serving effective sentence above 48 months and have served at least one third of the sentence, will have their sentences reduced by a quarter unless they are inside for specified offences.
Terminally ill prisoners certified by a correctional medical officer or a Government medical officer go free regardless of offence but the Department of Correctional Services must liaise with Social Welfare so that they continue treatment after release.
Inmates at open prisons were also pardoned regardless of offence. Those aged 60 years and above and have served one tenth of their sentence by April 18 go free unless sentenced to life imprisonment, death or convicted for public violence.
For some of the specified offences, the prisoner can go free “provided the inmate would have served three quarters of the sentence after the usual one third remission by 18 April. But those in jail for public violence, robbery, treason, Electricity Act, Postal and Telecommunications Act and Public Order and Security Act or Maintenance of Peace and Order Act are excluded.
The qualifying period of at least 20 years for prisoners serving life sentences includes any period where they were under sentence of death before their sentence was altered to life imprisonment.
The disabled, those medically certified as blind and those physically challenged to the extent that they cannot be catered for in a prison or correctional environment, will regardless of the offence, go out.

Nurses Complain Of Being Denied Access Loans

Nurses have complained of being denied access to loans because of poor salaries, saying without being paid in United States dollars, it will be difficult for them to remain in the country.

According to the Health Services Board, at least 4 000 health workers have left the country since 2021.

On Wednesday, health workers complained about their welfare when they appeared before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Health and Child Care.

“Our biggest issue is of salaries. Our salaries are pegged in local currency and at the moment, we get $45 000 and this is not sufficient,” Allan Nyamupinga, a representative of nurses at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals told the committee.

Using the black market rate of about US$1: $2 700, this means the nurses may be earning less than US$20.

However, they get United States dollar allowances like other civil servants.

Nyamupinga said their local salary component must be raised to reasonable levels.

“The figure is too little to cater for our needs. If you check, we receive $7 000 as transport allowance. We also get uniform allowance but the money cannot even buy one uniform,” Nyamupinga said.

“As nurses we are unable to get loans from the bank because of the local currency salary component we earn. Our situation as nurses is very dire and needs urgent intervention.”

Zimbabwe Nursing Association Harare provincial chairperson, Lucas Sharara, said: “Can we go back to the 2018 salary as a starting point so that we don’t leave the country.”

Sharara said the Nursing Council Board was also frustrating health workers.

Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, who doubles as Health minister, has been accused of stifling dissent in the health sector over welfare issues.

In 2018, Chiwenga made international headlines when he fired all striking nurses.

He has now hinted at introducing a law to make it illegal for foreign nations to hire the country’s healthcare workers.

High Court Acquits Chin’ono

Prominent Zimbabwean anti-corruption journalist Hopewell Chin’ono has been acquitted by the High Court in Harare on an allegation of obstruction of the course of justice.

The case involved President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s controversial niece, Henrietta Rushwaya, a notorious gold dealer.

Starting July 2020, Chin’ono was arrested and spent 45 days in jail; first on the case of allegedly inciting public violence, secondly on obstruction of the course of justice and thirdly for allegedly circulating a video that spread falsehoods.

But all the three “bogus” cases, as he called them, have been thrown out, leaving Chin’ono a free man. After the judgement, Chin’ono hit out at Mnangagwa’s government for brazenly abusing the state security apparatus and judicial system to punish dissenters Rhodesian-style.

He described his unjust and repressive imprisonment by government as “cruel” and “evil”. Said Chin’ono: “The High Court of Zimbabwe has dismissed the BOGUS charges against me in the Henrieta Rushwaya case, and also acquitted me today.

“The High Court also ordered that the State must pay my legal costs. “This ruling came after my legal team challenged Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa’s ruling that I must be tried by her although the charge was bogus.”

Chin’ono added: “I would like to thank my legal team that was led by Beatrice Mtetwa, assisted by Doug Coltart, Gift Mtisi and the

@ZLHRLawyers “This third acquittal in a row at the High Court proves what I have always said to the world, that I was a victim of political persecution by President Mnangagwa’s government for exposing corruption by his government and other players in his government.

“This latest acquittal came after I was arrested on November 3 2020, for exposing that the National Prosecution Authority had done a corrupt deal with Henrietta Rushwaya, to give her bail unopposed after she was caught trying to smuggle 6.7 kgs of Gold to Dubai.

“I was first arrested on July 20 2020, for exposing the looting of public funds meant for Covid-19, the regime lied that I had incited citizens to remove the government from power. I spent 45 days at Chikurubi Maximum Prison. I was arrested again for the second time on November 3 in 2020, for this case which was thrown out today.”

Chin’ono said he suffered badly while in jail for political reasons. “I spent 24 days in prison at Chikurubi Maximum Prison. I was arrested again for the third time on January 8, 2020, for something I didn’t do, and using a law that doesn’t exist. I spent 23 days in Chikurubi Maximum Prison,” he said.

“The case was thrown out again by the High Court. The idea was to send me to trial at the magistrates courts so that I get convicted and jailed.

“But each time my lawyers led by Beatrice Mtetwa were able to prove on review at the High Court that the charges were bogus! Without my lawyers and their ability to prove that these were bogus charges, I would have been in jail.

“I am eternally grateful to them and the long hours they put in over three years to get the bogus charges thrown out, and to get me acquitted on the three occasions.”

Taking no prisoners, Chin’ono tore into Mnangagwa and his regime for authoritarian repression and hounding critics, including journalists.

“To President Mnangagwa’s Government I say; The police, courts and the prison service are meant to maintain law and order and the rule of law, and not to punish and persecute critics, the opposition and journalists for doing their work,” he said.

“You wasted three years of my life persecuting me for doing my work as a journalist.

“It was EVIL and CRUEL for a government whose mandate should be to protect citizens, to instead become a predator to its own people.

“Today I am not celebrating, my life was messed up for three years, there is nothing to celebrate.

“We still have political prisoners like Job Sikhala and Jacob Ngarivhume wrongly jailed; they are being persecuted like what happened to me on three occasions!

“So there is nothing to celebrate when innocent citizens are in jail!

“Thank you to all Zimbabwean citizens and friends of Zimbabwe who stood up for me during this difficult time, and thank you to all African and global leaders that shared messages of solidarity publicly and privately.”

Concluded Chin’ono: “Lastly, I want to thank my family and friends who stood up for me, thank you.”

ZIMRA Official Convicted Of Criminal Abuse Of Office

Gweru magistrate Progress Murandu yesterday sentenced a Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) official to a wholly suspended jail term after convicting her of criminal abuse of office.

Mercy Dzvuke (48), a Zimra liaison officer based in Gweru, was accused of extorting US$500 from medical doctor Thomas Ndebele, who had outstanding tax returns.

Murandu sentenced Dzvuke to 18 months and suspended nine months on condition of good behaviour.

The remaining nine months were set aside on condition that she completes 315 hours of community service at Ascot Secondary School.

The community service commences today.

The State’s case was that on August 2 last year, Dzvuke and Alfred Gwara were conducting compliance checks on tax returns when they visited Ndebele’s surgery.

The duo told Ndebele that failure to submit returns attracted a heavy penalty.

The court heard that Ndebele asked for more time to compile and submit the tax returns.

They then advised Ndebele to engage a tax consultant by the name Nyanhete.

The court further heard that in the process of negotiations, Dzvuke solicited for US$500 so that she could delete the penalties in the Zimra systems.

Ndebele, however, told her that he was financially constrained to meet the demand. In mid-August, Dzvuke allegedly made a follow-up on the bribe.

According to the court, Ndebele made a report to Zimra head office and the organisation tasked Crispen Marengano and Sympathy Chipise to investigate.

The Zimra officials engaged the Criminal Investigation Department in Gweru and set a trap.

On September 1, Ndebele was asked by the police to call Dzvuke advising her to come and collect US$250. Dzvuke went to the surgery to collect the money, but was intercepted by detectives on her way outside.

In her defence during trial, Dzvuke, who was being represented by Reginald Chidawanyikasaid she collected the money on behalf of Nyanhete to assist Ndebele comply with the Zimra tax systems.

Monica Mungweni prosecuted.

Govt Removes Duty On Basic Commodities

Finance minister Mthuli Ncube has removed duty on all basic commodities to combat the rampant price increases in a slew of desperate measures to save the collapsing Zimbabwe dollar.

Over the past two months, the Zimbabwe dollar has plummeted to $2 700, against the United States dollar from about $1 200.

Officially, over the same period, the Zimbabwe dollar fell to $1 222,27, against the greenback as of yesterday, which is a depreciation of just over 25%.

Local businesses have responded by raising the prices of  goods and services to maintain the value of their products and offerings, which has seen a massive spike in prices.

This has also led to the erosion of wages as families are now facing galloping school fees, rising prices of basic commodities, healthcare costs, and rentals. In response to the crisis, Ncube announced a cocktail of measures yesterday to save the local currency and curb price increases.

“In order to enhance the supply of basic goods to the public, all basic goods will no longer be subject to import licences, and will also come into the country free of import duties and taxes,” he said in a statement.

According to insiders, the move is supposed to force local players to reduce their prices owing to the threat of cheaper imported goods mostly from South Africa followed by Zambia and Mozambique.

Further, with the fall of the South African rand to a three-year low of ZAR19,14, against the dollar, basic commodities in that country are even more affordable than on the domestic market.

Reports from South Africa suggest that its currency is expected to fall even further if allegations that the neighbouring country sent a shipment of arms and ammunition to Russia to support its war on Ukraine are corroborated.

Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries chief executive officer Sekai Kuvarika said the measure would be catastrophic to the local industry.

“The other measures they have put are good but this measure on imports, where it is problematic is that they are saying these goods should come duty free, when the (local) manufacturers of those goods are paying duties and other taxes and other regulations in the business environment to produce the same goods,” Kuvarika said.

“So, it unevens the playing field. The import bill is also likely to balloon and maybe demand for forex will increase.

“There are no shortages of basic commodities. Giving stabilisation a chance is the best approach, if shortages then occur then maybe this could be necessary. Right now it is not, in fact it is counterproductive.”

Ncube scrapped the 15% surrender requirement on domestic foreign currency sales for businesses, allowing them access to 100% of their locally generated forex revenue.

“In order to promote the banking of domestic sales in foreign currency in the banking system, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe will with effect from 15 May 2023, exempt all proceeds from domestic sales in foreign currency from the 15% surrender requirement,” he said.

Africa Economic Development Strategies executive director Gift Mugano said the 100% forex retention was a good move.

However, on the removal of import duties, he said government made an emotional move.

“The move by government to open up the borders to basic commodities — I don’t think it is a good move that one because what that does is expose our local industry,” Mugano said.

“It becomes a significant drainer of foreign currency because we will be allowing unrestricted draining of foreign currency to import goods,” he said.

“My view on this is that government is being emotional to the current price spikes.

“Now, the tragedy is that the price spikes will continue because local manufacturers will be forced to charge in Zimbabwe dollars as required by law in the shops but those who are going to be importing commodities, particularly cross borders, will not charge in Zimbabwe dollars further deepening dollarisation.”

Ncube also announced that the foreign exchange auction system will be further fine-tuned and will now auction a pre-announced envelope, on a pure Dutch auction basis.

However, the pre-announced envelope still implies controls on the exchange rate. In order to address the rampant speculation of the parallel exchange rate, Treasury said it would “immediately” cause short-term interest rates of tenors of up to six months to rise sharply, with longer-term rates remaining low.

Government expects to curb speculative borrowing as such funds have often found their way into the parallel forex market causing a spike in the money supply, adding to the fall of the Zimbabwe dollar and eventually inflation.

“Government will endeavour to promote the growing and committed use of the local currency for domestic transactions by ensuring that levies and fees charged by its affiliated agencies and service providers, are to be paid for in local currency,” Ncube said.

Mnangagwa’s UK Trip Failed To Yield Anything

President Emmerson Mnangagwa did not meet any high-level official of the United Kingdom administration when he visited London for the coronation of King Charles III.

In contrast, the likes of Rwanda President Paul Kagame met British Prime minister Rishi Sunak ahead of yesterday’s coronation.

Observers said Mnangagwa’s invite to London, the first in many years for the presidency, was meaningless despite claims by Zanu-PF enthusiasts and government officials that the trip signalled thawing of relations.

Zimbabwe had frosty relations with London when the late former President Robert Mugabe was in power over human rights violations.

Mnangagwa embarked on a re-engagement drive after he assumed office in 2017 following a military coup which removed Mugabe, and has even sought the country’s re-admission into the Commonwealth.

Mugabe quit the Commonwealth in 2003 after he was censured at the height of the fast-tracked land reform programme characterised by violence.

Some UK parliamentarians have said Zimbabwe must not be readmitted into the grouping over continued human rights violations, citing the incarceration of opposition legislators.

Mnangagwa met the UK Minister of State for Development and Africa, Andrew Mitchell and some British business people on Friday in London.

He was also scheduled to meet Patricia Scotland, the Commonwealth secretary general yesterday.

Observers said Mnangagwa’s meetings did not signal readmission into the Commonwealth or his endorsement as he has failed to address the conditional benchmarks such as respect for the rule of law.

“What Mnangagwa said about the British removing sanctions at the youth league event was just a wish,” political analyst Eldred Masunungure said.

Mnangagwa celebrated his invite during a youth league conference held in the capital last week.

“For the opposition, the invitation might appear as the thawing of a frosty relationship and softening for a government that is failing to respect human rights,” Masunungure said.

“He can win the hearts of the British by not signing the Private Voluntary Amendment (PVO) Bill. That is one litmus test for his willingness to reform; to guarantee for sanction removal.”

The PVO Bill seeks to regulate the operations of civic society activities and has been widely criticised as a backdoor attempt to close the democratic space.

University of London professor of Politics Stephen Chan said the invitation would not soften the UK stance on respect of human rights.

“There was nothing special in the invitation to President Mnangagwa,” Chan said.

“Charles had asked that all Commonwealth presidents and those of countries once in the Commonwealth should be invited.

“He sought an inclusive coronation. The UK Government agreed to invite him as an olive branch.

“There is no wish in the UK, with so many large world problems, to foster any feud with Zimbabwe’s Zanu-PF.

“But it certainly does not mean any lightening of UK and Western insistence on respect for human rights.”

Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party leader Nelson Chamisa said Mnangagwa’s administration had a tainted human rights record.

“A leader must not have too many skeletons in his closet, a steward of a Pariah State, the head of a terrorist and mafia admin that bullies political opponents,” Chamisa said.

“That type of leader cannot claim to be engaging  with the international community.

“How can you engage the international community when you are tearing apart all the norms of international dignity and civility?”

Chamisa said normalisation of relations should be mutual and cordial on the basis of good governance, democracy and respect for the rule of law.

“A true leader should build and not burn bridges,” he said. A true leader should tick all boxes of governance, democracy and the rule of law for engagement to prevail. How can we have a Member of Parliament jailed for politics?”

Zanu PF To Launch Election Manifesto

THE revolutionary ZANU PF says all party structures are geared for the general elections slated for July or August this year with the party manifesto set to be launched soon.

The conclusion of the internal democratic processes for the ruling party signalled the readiness of the party for general elections as teams have been deployed for the healing process across provinces.

ZANU PF National Political Commissar, Dr Mike Bimha said all party structures and affiliates are on the ground mobilising the electorate for the impending general elections.

“We now look forward to the launch of the party manifesto. It is all systems go, all structures, including our affiliates such as returnees are geared up for the general elections,” he noted.

Dr Bimha said candidates elected during the primary elections are expected to through the Chitepo School of Ideology.

“We have new faces which shows the vibrancy of the party and a programme with Chitepo School of Ideology for newcomers has been put in place,” said Dr Bimha.

“We also have a healing programme across provinces, teams of those who won and lost to go into the campaign as one team, an internal exercise and it’s behind us.”

“Hence the need to work together to garner five million votes, now in the process of the onslaught and final push to ensure that ZANU PF comes more victorious,” he added.

ZANU PF has completed its internal processes, after holding primary elections in March, but the situation is different in other political parties, which are yet to complete their candidates’ selection processes.- ZBC News

Mthuli DeTaxes 10 Essential Imports

By Agencies- 10 essential products, including maize meal, rice, milk, wheat, salt, cooking oil, petroleum jelly, toothpaste, bath soap, and washing powder, were exempt from import duty and import VAT yesterday.
Given that retailers and wholesalers can now keep all of the foreign currency they receive from customers, the suspension of the import duty and import VAT, which will be in effect for six months starting yesterday, is likely to force Zimbabwean producers to maintain prices that are competitive with those of their international rivals.

Zimra Commissioner General Ms. Regina Chinamasa received a letter from Mr. George Guvamatanga, Permanent Secretary for Finance and Economic Development, asking Zimra to “urgently draft the necessary legal instrument and implement the duty suspension with effect from 12 May 2023”.

“Furthermore, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce is expected to complement the measure through the inclusion of the above goods on the Open General Import Licence,” said Mr Guvamatanga.

The move is in line with the measures announced by the Government on Thursday.

Give Us Chance To Fix Things – President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri

Citizens have the capacity to rebuild the economy.

South Africa vs US Ambassador Over Russian Weaponry Ship

“South Africa cannot be bullied by the United States.”

Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, a minister in the Presidency, responded in this way to claims made by the US administration that the Russian ship Lady R was carrying armaments while stationed at the Simon’s Town naval facility.

The minister said the following in an interview with the SABC on Friday:

“The ambassador has not followed diplomatic channels in terms of dealing with issues in South Africa and this is not the first time this has happened.”

Ntshavheni slammed US ambassador to South Africa Reuben Brigety’s “megaphone diplomacy” approach of addressing the media in Pretoria on Thursday when he said Washington had established the vessel was loaded with weapons while docked at the naval base.

“It doesn’t work. If the US has concerns about anything in South Africa, they are allowed to raise them — but the channel they need to contact is Dirco [the department of international relations and co-operation] to say these are the issues they have problems with, because we have a relationship with the US.”

US ambassador to South Africa Reuben Brigety has apologised “unreservedly” after he admitted to “crossing the line” at a briefing he held on Thursday.

This is according to the department of international relations and co-operation (Dirco) which in a diplomatic démarche on Friday expressed the government’s “utter displeasure” with Brigety’s “conduct and statements”.

Brigety stirred up controversy on Thursday when he informed reporters that a Russian ship that had berthed at the naval base in Simon’s Town had left South Africa carrying weapons.

Additionally, he claimed that Washington had confirmed the ship was armed when it was parked at the naval facility in December.

While in South African seas, the ship engaged in controversial acts, and Pretoria remained mute about them.

Locals were outraged by Brigety’s remarks, and issues were expressed regarding the way he chose to express these worries.

Mnangagwa Confidently Opens A Footbridge

By Farai D Hove | Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday inaugurated the Rwenya Bridge in Mudzi, which is anticipated to improve communication between Mashonaland East province and Nyanga district in Manicaland.

Cyclone Eline ripped away the bridge in 2013, cutting off the two provinces on the northern side.

People on both sides were having difficulty crossing, especially during the rainy season, and many were turning to lengthier ways, like travelling via Harare from Mudzi to Nyanga.

Mnangagwa stated in his keynote speech that his administration would continue to be the driving force behind infrastructure improvements by mobilising domestic resources rather than borrowing from international organisations.

“I am pleased to say we do not owe money to anyone in these projects we are undertaking. We are mobilizing our own resources and using local companies that we have been supporting to develop our country,” said Mnangagwa.

Mnangagwa Releases Prisoners Ahead Of 2023 Elections

As a means of “declogging” jails that presently house more than 22,000 inmates, President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday exercised executive mercy and freed a variety of convicts incarcerated for a variety of non-violent offences as long as they had completed at least one-third of their sentence by Independence Day last month.

The clemency ruling disqualifies a number of inmates, primarily dangerous offenders and men serving sentences of more than four years, but more women, adolescents, inmates with terminal diseases, and inmates over 60 are eligible.

Some males serving longer terms of imprisonment may have their sentences reduced, and some excluded violent inmates may be released after serving at least three-quarters of their actual sentence, but not all.

About Cervical Cancer Prevention

12 Family Members In Hospital After Eating Poisoned Sadza

By-A family of 12 from Village Two in Umguza District, Matabeleland North province, is lucky to be alive after eating poisoned isitshwala/sadza on Tuesday evening.

The family members who were rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital in the wee hours of Wednesday with severe diarrhoea and vomiting are said to have left their maize at a local grinding mill as there were no attendants.
One of the family members later returned to the grinding mill to collect the mealie-meal. Police are still investigating what transpired.
In an interview at Mpilo, Ms Rebecca Moyo said the poisoning had left seven adults and five children battling for dear life.
She said if they had delayed getting to the hospital, they could have easily died from dehydration as they were vomiting profusely.
“On Tuesday, my brother James Ncube took a bucket of maize to a local grinding mill and was told to come back later as there were no attendants. Later on, he collected mealie-meal and proceeded to his house.
His wife prepared isitshwala and they ate as a family. At around 6PM, I went to my brother and asked for mealie-meal as I had run out. We stay a few metres from their homestead as we are one family.
“I managed to cook isitshwala which we ate with my grandchildren and we retired to bed. At around 10PM, one of my nephews came knocking at my door saying the whole family had fallen sick suddenly. I rushed there and inquired what they had eaten only to discover that it was isitshwala and vegetables,” said Ms Moyo.
She said the condition kept deteriorating and within a few minutes, everyone was vomiting and taking turns to use the toilet as they had developed severe diarrhoea.
“I then decided to go back to my homestead and check on my grandchildren who were sleeping only to discover that they too were up and vomiting. We then called for help and one neighbour suggested that we all be taken to the hospital.”
Ms Moyo said by the time they left, the children had soiled their blankets and the homes were in a mess as there was vomit all over.
She said the family members got to Mpilo Central Hospital at around 4AM and they were all admitted.
“I am happy because we all got medical attention and after some hours, the seven of us were discharged after we recovered. Our blood pressures were up as well but all adults were treated and discharged. Our children and grandchildren are still admitted but the nurses have assured us that they are recovering well. We are not sure what transpired and how our maize meal got contaminated but we’re grateful that we didn’t die as it could have been worse,” she said.
Ms Moyo said the grinding mill had been serving the community for the past year and no incidents of food poisoning had been reported before.
“We are still in shock and convinced that the mealie-meal had something in it. We hope that the police will get to the bottom of this so that we can move on as a family.”

Mai TT In Hot Soup Over US$10 000 Chimbadzo

By- Mai TT will present her defence in response to allegations that she fraudulently borrowed US$10 000 using hired and stolen vehicles and an invalid passport as collateral.
The prosecution established a case against her, and the court dismissed her application for discharge.
Mai Titi, a Zimbabwean comedian, musician, entrepreneur and MC, allegedly promised to repay the loan by November 2020 after offering a Mercedes Benz vehicle as surety, despite knowing that the car was hired.
After some days, Mai Titi allegedly returned to the lender, Rachel Mhuka and demanded back the car saying it did not belong to her. She rather offered her an Audi Q5 (AFG3701) and an expired passport as surety.
Sometime in January this year, Mhuka was then approached by police from ZRP Rhodesville, who then seized the Audi Q5 saying it belonged to Else Event Car Hire.
Irked by Murata’s actions, Mhuka then lodged a complaint with the police leading to Mai Titi’s arrest.
The defence hearing is set for May 24th.
Mai Titi also faces a separate charge of failing to make payments for an Audi she hired from Else Car Rental. Mai Titi entered into an agreement with Else Car Rental to hire the Audi Q5, but she failed to make weekly payments. The car was recovered from the lender’s residence, where Mai Titi had surrendered it as collateral.

Tsvangirai Aide Lands Top Zanu PF Post

By-Fomer MDC-T senior leader Lilian Temveous has landed a top job in a Zanu PF-affiliated association.

Temveous got appointed as the national secretary responsible for training and implementation in the Citizens Against Economic Sanctions (CAES)’s national executive council in the Midlands province.

Zanu PF said Temveous had been playing an active role in amplifying the call for lifting sanctions on Zimbabwe imposed by some Western countries.

CAES Executive Director Martin Zharare said the appointment of Temveous will help train and enlighten women about the badness of sanctions.

“I would like to take this opportunity to welcome and congratulate the new appointee and wish her all the best in her new portfolio as we all aspire to have illegal sanctions imposed on the Zimbabwean people lifted.
” It is through her dedication, patriotism and resilience in the fight against illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe that we have seen it fit to bestow on her the leadership roll as we move to build a strong and vibrant organisation that is at the forefront of equipping citizens with the necessary skills to rise above the after effects of the economic sanctions and become masters of their own destinies,” said Zharare.
Temveous said she was honoured to be part of the team and vowed to work tirelessly in making sure that sanctions imposed in the country were removed.
“I am excited to be part of the team and we will conduct awareness campaigns across the country enlightening people about the Zidera act,” she said.
“We are going to rope in more women and train them on various income generating projects so that they can sustain themselves and their families. We want to show the world that sanctions will not deter us from making progress and develop our country as patriotic Zimbabweans.”

Could Zemura’s Move to Udinese be a Turning Point in His Career?

It was recently confirmed that Jordan Zemura will be joining Udinese on a free transfer at the end of the season. The Zimbabwean international has struggled for game time in Gary O’Neil’s side this season, so a move away could be the best option for him to get his career back on track.

It’s disappointing that his time with the Cherries is coming to an end. However, there’s a chance that after a few years of development in Serie A, he could return to the Premier League as a more formidable player.

Bournemouth Safe and Looking to Strengthen

Bournemouth enjoyed a successful campaign in their return to the Premier League and managed to ensure survival after 34 games. Indeed, after 35 matches had been played, the Cherries weren’t even involved in the outright relegation sports betting markets. Instead, bookies had Leeds United and Leicester City as odds-on favourites to join Southampton in the Championship next season. Bettors can stake on these events using free bet promotions when they join a site for the first time.

After securing their status as a topflight team for another season, Bournemouth will be seeking to strengthen in key areas before the upcoming campaign. The left-back position is one that they are clearly interested in improving, with Zemura not quite cutting the mustard in the role this season. He only made 22 starts across all competitions for the south coast club, and it has been clear for some time now that the London-born player is not in O’Neil’s plans for the future.

It looks like Zemura’s move to Udinese on a free transfer is the best option for both parties. If the Zimbabwean international had stayed at Bournemouth, he would have continued to be a bit part player. At Udinese, he has the chance to make the position his own.

Zemura Should be a First Team Starter with Udinese

Udinese have been eying up Zemura for some time as a long-term replacement for Destiny Udogie. Tottenham Hotspur signed the Italian last summer but allowed him to stay in Serie A on loan for one season. The attacking fullback will join his new club this summer and Udinese will need Zemura to fill his shoes.

Udogie was a regular first-team player for Udinese across two seasons, suggesting that Zemura will be the first choice left back when he comes in to replace the outgoing 20-year-old. This will give the former Bournemouth man a chance to shine and prove his worth in one of the top leagues in Europe.

Zemura has already established himself as a Zimbabwean international with six starts for his country, but he will be looking to add to that tally. Under the tutelage of Andrea Sottil, he has the chance to take his game to the next level and become a star.

There’s no doubt that this move to Udinese has the potential to be a turning point in Zemura’s career. He is still young and has a lot of development ahead of him. Italy could be the best place to get to the next level.
