Christian Atsu Body Found Under Building

Ghana winger Christian Atsu has been found dead under the building where he lived in southern Turkey after last week’s massive earthquake, his Turkish agent said on Saturday.

Atsu had been missing since the Feb. 6 earthquake following the collapse of an apartment building in Hatay. He was 31.

“Atsu’s lifeless body was found under the rubble,” Murat Uzunmehmet told reporters in Hatay. “Currently, more items are still being taken out. His phone was also found.”

Atsu had been scheduled to fly out of southern Turkey hours before the quake, but Hatayspor’s manager said on Friday the Ghanaian opted to stay with the club after scoring the winning goal in a Feb. 5 Super Lig match.

Atsu joined Hatayspor in September last year after spells with English Premier League clubs Everton, Chelsea and Newcastle United.

“We will not forget you, Atsu. Peace be upon you, beautiful person. There are no words to describe our sadness,” Hatayspor said on Twitter.

Newcastle also paid tribute, saying: “A talented player and a special person, he will always be fondly remembered by our players, staff and supporters.”

Atsu won 65 caps for Ghana and helped them reach the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations final, where they lost to Ivory Coast on penalties. He was last selected to play for Ghana in 2019.

He joined Chelsea from Porto in 2013 and had several loan spells at clubs including Vitesse and Bournemouth.

“Chelsea sends our heartfelt condolences to Christian’s family and friends and to all those affected by the earthquake tragedy,” the London club said.

More than 45,000 people have been killed in the earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria, and the toll is expected to rise further with some 264,000 apartments in Turkey destroyed and many still missing in the country’s worst modern disaster.

Nakamba Suffers Injury Setback

Marvelous Nakamba picked an injury in his fourth Luton Town game on Saturday.

The Zimbabwean midfielder limped off in the 68th minute after picking up a knock in the 1-0 defeat to Burnley.

The match marked his first league start at home for the Championship side and was excellent during the time he was on the pitch.

The Hatters conceded ten minutes after Nakamba’s substitution through a penalty, and the goal was the difference at full-time.

Should the injury be a serious one, it would be a setback for the Warriors international after he spent the first half of the season without playing competitive football.

The 29-year-old fell out of favour at Aston Villa and was at times dropped from the matchday squad.

The loan exit provided him with an opportunity to revive his career and he featured in all of Luton’s games since his arrival.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Hopewell: Shadaya To Lose Job Opportunities Because Of World’s Most Popular Zim Tweet

By Farai D Hove | Film-maker Hopewell Chin’ono was on Sunday criticised after threatening micro blogger Shadaya Knight whose recent tweet has hit a record 58million views.

No one in Zimbabwean history has managed to hit 58 million views on Twitter.

The development comes barely a month after Chin’ono attacked the country’s most popular politician Nelson Chamisa, by falsely announcing that he (Chamisa) has never run an official voter registration campaign.

Shadaya Knight’s tweet was a once line jest over a picture of singer Rihanna with her child and the baby’s father, which the commentator jokes saying, “…The emasculation of men continues…you can already tell who the man is in this relationship…that dude about to be a proud mother of 2???…”

To this Chin’ono writing on Sunday, said Shadaya will never get a job because of this tweet. Chin’ono, who once changed his own name 4 times in the space of 24 months, used the term, “death,” to threaten Shadaya.

He said in full, “This tweet has been retweeted countless times, it has been read by over 58.5 million people, but like death, Shadaya will have to carry the cross alone.

“This tweet will block any international job prospects for him.

“Whilst many cheer him on, he will face the consequences alone!”

He received a series of responses from Zimbabweans far and wide.

“I think that it’s a beginning of a problem where people have to hide what they feel because of imagined international jobs.

“The issue is if it’s wrong in his eyes it’s his opinion, I thought you stood for freedom of expression,” wrote accounts executive, Calvin Majora.

Pachedu convener @amchambi said, “He (ShadayaKnight) does not have to be in the office though but use his brand to make money.

“It’s not about being a worker, he can start his own show even with international media partners.”

Shadaya Knight himself responded saying he isn’t looking for any job.

A Must Read: Cervical Cancer Treatable At Early Stage

Key facts

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women globally, with an estimated 604 000 new cases and 342 000 deaths in 2020.

About 90% of the new cases and deaths worldwide in 2020 occurred in low- and middle-income countries (1).

Two human papillomavirus (HPV) types (16 and 18) are responsible for nearly 50% of high grade cervical pre-cancers
HPV is mainly transmitted through sexual contact and most people are infected with HPV shortly after the onset of sexual activity. More than 90% of them clear the infection eventually.

Women living with HIV are 6 times more likely to develop cervical cancer compared to women without HIV.

Vaccination against HPV and screening and treatment of pre-cancer lesions is a cost-effective way to prevent cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer can be cured if diagnosed at an early stage and treated promptly.

Comprehensive cervical cancer control includes primary prevention (vaccination against HPV), secondary prevention (screening and treatment of pre-cancerous lesions), tertiary prevention (diagnosis and treatment of invasive cervical cancer) and palliative care.

Overview

Worldwide, cervical cancer is the fourth most frequent cancer in women with an estimated 604 000 new cases in 2020. Of the estimated 342 000 deaths from cervical cancer in 2020, about 90% of these occur in low- and middle-income countries. Women living with HIV are 6 times more likely to develop cervical cancer compared to women without HIV, and an estimated 5% of all cervical cancer cases are attributable to HIV (2). Moreover, in all world regions the contribution of HIV to cervical cancer falls disproportionately on younger women.

In high-income countries, programmes are in place which enable girls to be vaccinated against HPV and women to get screened regularly and treated adequately. Screening allows pre-cancerous lesions to be identified at stages when they can easily be treated.

In low-and middle-income countries, there is limited access to these preventative measures and cervical cancer is often not identified until it has further advanced and symptoms develop. In addition, access to treatment of cancerous lesions (for example, cancer surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy) may be limited, resulting in a higher rate of death from cervical cancer in these countries.

The high mortality rate from cervical cancer globally (age standardized rate among women: 13.3/100 000 in 2020) could be reduced by effective interventions at different stages of life.

HPV and cervical cancer
A large majority of cervical cancer (more than 95%) is due to the human papillomavirus (HPV).

HPV is the most common viral infection of the reproductive tract. Most sexually active women and men will be infected at some point in their lives, and some may be repeatedly infected. More than 90% of the infected populations eventually clear the infection.

Cervical cancer is by far the most common HPV-related disease. Nearly all cases of cervical cancer can be attributed to HPV infection.

Although most HPV infections clear up on their own and most pre-cancerous lesions resolve spontaneously, there is a risk for all women that HPV infection may become chronic and pre-cancerous lesions progress to invasive cervical cancer.

It takes 15 to 20 years for cervical cancer to develop in women with normal immune systems. It can take only 5 to 10 years in women with weakened immune systems, such as those with untreated HIV infection.

Cervical cancer control: a comprehensive approach
The Global strategy towards eliminating cervical cancer as a public health problem, adopted by the World Health Assembly in 2020, recommends a comprehensive approach to cervical cancer prevention and control. The recommended actions include interventions across the life course.

Botswana Pastor Hires & Kills Zim Thigh Vendor

By- A Botswana Seventh-day Adventist Church (SDA) pastor is being linked with the murder of a Zimbabwean commercial sex worker in December 2022.

She was found dead in her house in Maun on 24 December last year.

According to The Voice, a Botswana newspaper, as cited by B-Metro, reported that the married pastor, Marvin Pelonomi Radihephi (38) is based in Francistown.

Radihephi is suspected to have killed 48-year-old Warricious Bhunu after he allegedly solicited sex services from her.

He has since appeared before Maun Magistrate Court where he was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody on condition that he reports every two weeks at Francistown Police Station.

The report says police are waiting for DNA and postmortem results, which will guide the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on how to proceed with the case.

DNA tests from a used condom are also expected to be used to either link or exonerate Radihephi.

Allegations are that Bhunu was hired by Radihephi for services for two days before Christmas Day when he was visiting his home village of Maun.

Bhunu was alleged to have been found dead in her house located along a street commonly known as Harare at Sanyedi ward the next morning.

According to The Voice, Radihephi allegedly emerged from the room and sat in the car on Christmas Eve, which was on a Sabbath.

Nobody paid much attention until around six o’clock when one of Bhunu’s friends came around to check on her.

The woman greeted Radihephi, whose vehicle was parked right in front of Bhunu’s doorstep, and asked him if she was in and he responded in the affirmative.

The Voice said a witness, who stays in the neighbourhood, added that she was one of the people that came rushing to the scene when Bhunu’s friend who found her dead screamed for help.

Bhunu was allegedly lying naked and motionless on the floor and beside her were some used condoms.

The pastor, who was said to have been sitting in the parked car, is said to have sped off.

However, witnesses had reportedly noted down the car registration numbers.

The matter was then reported to the police and the car owner was tracked down

Pastor Radihephi was later arrested while in possession of the same car.

Bhunu’s body was repatriated back home and was buried last month.

CSOs Demands Amendment Of Drugs Act To Include Mutoriro

Civil society organisations (CSOs) have implored the government to amend the Dangerous Drugs Act and Criminal Codification Act, saying the laws do not classify drugs such as crystal meth as illegal substances.

Crystal meth commonly referred to as guka/mutoriro or dombo has become one of the leading drugs abused by youths, including school children.

In response to the drug “epidemic”, the Police have intensified operations against drug abuse resulting in the arrest of more than 2 000 people.

In a report published by NewsDay titled Drugs and Hard Substance Abuse: The New Menace in our Public Education System, the CSOs said:Zimbabwe is required to review its current outdated legislation to include various types of drugs like crystal meth that are not explicitly covered by the Criminal Codification Act and the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Despite the existence of these regulations, only the scheduled drugs which are named in the Dangerous Drugs Act read together with the drugs named under section 155 of the Criminal Code are construed to be dangerous.

This means that drugs such as methamphetamine (guka/mutoriro or dombo) are not spelt out in the Criminal Code or the Dangerous Drugs Act.

As such, the Dangerous Drugs Act of Zimbabwe and the Criminal Code are not contemporary with the trending drugs.

Therefore, the youth are taking advantage of these legal gaps and are now using drugs that do not attract court action such as sodium polyacrylate extracted from diapers because diapers or pads are legal products found everywhere in public.

Hence, there is a need for more focused drug legislation that allows drug abuse survivors to seek help without fear of criminalisation and facing other penalties.

According to this line of argument, illicit drug use is a public health concern rather than a criminal issue.

Zimbabwe Seeks Increased Power Generation At Kariba

Zimbabwe is seeking an emergency meeting with the Zambezi River Authority (ZRA) to discuss water allocations to improve power generation at Kariba South Hydroelectric Power Station.

Towards the end of 2022, ZRA drastically reduced water allocation to both ZESA and ZESCO, which share equally water resources at the complex.Business Times quoted Energy and Power Development Minister, Zhemu Soda as saying Zimbabwean authorities will meet ZRA over water allocation.

Said Soda:We are meeting ZRA with the hope that water allocation is going to be increased and improve our generation.

He said Zimbabwe is currently importing about 500 megawatts (MW) from regional power utilities.

ZESA is struggling to bring on line two new generators at the country’s largest coal-fired power plant, Hwange Power Station.

Chinese contractor, Sinohydro Corporation was supposed to commission Unit 7 with a generation capacity of 300MW last year but has hitherto failed to do so.

Meanwhile, Zambia power utility ZESCO last week announced an end to load shedding after it upgraded power generation at various power stations across the country.

Armed Robber Who Escaped From Chikurubi Arrested Again

Police have confirmed the arrest of an armed robber who escaped from Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison in November 2022, where he was serving six years for a case of robbery committed in Glen Norah in 2018.

Below is the statement issued by the spokesman for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi:The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Mirikia Pirikisi alias Henrik Nyathi (38) and Arnold Mhosva (29), in connection with a case of robbery which occurred on 15th February 2023 at Total Service Station, along Beitbridge- Bulawayo Road, Beitbridge, where an illegal forex dealer was shot on the leg with a pistol, before US$26 000 cash and a Honda Fit vehicle, registration number, AGA 7073, were stolen.

The complainant had received a call from one of the suspects, only identified as Leonard Huni, who claimed that he wanted to exchange an equivalent of ZAR 100 000 cash for United States dollars.

Police later received a report of robbery from the complainant through the phone. The police swiftly attended the scene and found the suspects surrounded by a mob, leading to their arrest.

It was established the suspects were involved in a road traffic accident with the stolen vehicle, before being apprehended and attacked with stones, logs, fists and feet by members of the public, who went on to steal the complainant’s money during the commotion.

The suspects sustained head injuries and were referred to Beitbridge District Hospital where Arnold Mhosva died upon admission.

The arrest led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle, an MC 1911 pistol with five 9mm rounds an empty magazine,  and a 9mm spent cartridge.

Further investigations by the police established that Mirikia Pirikisi was being sought in connection with escaping from Chikurubi Prison in November 2022, where he was serving six years for a case of robbery committed in Glen Norah in 2018.

Mirikia Pirikisi is also linked to a robbery case that occurred in Beitbridge in December 2017, in which an illegal forex dealer was attacked before ZAR 35 000, 900 Euros and US$500 cash were stolen.

He is implicated in another robbery case that occurred in November 2022 in Highlands, Harare where cash and clothes were stolen.

Meanwhile, investigations by the police led to the arrest of Jeremiah Hwati (35), who was part of the mob which stole the complainant’s money.

Jeremiah Hwati implicated other suspects only identified as Khedha and Langton.

Investigations are underway to account for the other suspects, including Leonard Huni who allegedly provided the firearm used during the robbery.

The firearm was stolen in South Africa in January 2023 by means of unlawful entry into premises.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police implores the public to be alert and wary of criminals who lure them to engage in shoddy forex deals and later on attack them.

Rand Falls Again As ANC Troubles Mount

The rand is taking a beating in markets this week as a combination of local and global issues weighs the currency down.

The local unit was trading at R18.22 to the dollar on Friday morning (17 February) having broken and settled over the R18 to the dollar mark earlier in the week.

The rand had been on the cusp of R18 for much of the week, but was pushed over the edge after strong economic data in the US raised flags for further rate hikes by the Fed.

Locally, rating agency Fitch issued a stern warning over the ongoing load shedding crisis, while investor sentiment soured as the governing ANC pushed harder into far-left policies and alliances.

CCC Members Acquitted Of Fabricated Assault Charges

A Gutu magistrate Mandlekosi Ndlovu has ruled that a case of 2 CCC activists charged for assaulting Zanu PF Mpandawana youth Deadly Poronario was a fabrication and that instead it was Poronario who provocked the CCC youth.

He acquitted Tinotenda Makumbe and his father Nhamo Makumbe.

Ironically it was the CCC duo who reported a case of assault against Zanu PF youth first but Mpandawana Police refused to open a docket and instead arrested the complainants.

Emotional Send-off For Wayne Ndlovu

The 16-year-old Founders High School student, Wayne Ndlovu who was stabbed to death by one of his peers from a neighbouring school has been buried at Umvutsha Cemetery in Bulawayo.

Wayne Ndlovu, who was a Form Four pupil at Founders High School was murdered this Monday during a gang brawl between his school and Hamilton High, a neighbouring school.

As if to let the students have a feel of the consequences of their actions, a funeral service was held at Founders High School this Friday morning where scores of pupils from different schools and parents were in attendance.

“I am in pain. I was talking to him the day before he died. I died know he was going to die. He was a good person he didn’t deserve it,” a classmate said.

Although emotionally distraught, Wayne’s parents said as difficult as it might be to accept the pain of losing their child, they believe his death will bring an end to the endless brawls between schools.

His father said, “Boys and girls no more violence please. Boys and girls, do not even think about revenging. The battle is not yours, if you want to take this physically your fingers are going to get burnt.”
Founders High School head, Ms Dorothea Moyo said Wayne’s death has affected the whole school, with most students still struggling to come to terms with the tragic incident.

She said, “We have lost an enthusiastic young learner. It’s difficult to see my learners looking so depressed, crying and mourning.”

Bulawayo ZANU PF provincial chairperson, Jabulani Sibanda pleaded with students to shun gang fights, bullying and drug abuse.

“Kids must be protected from drugs. They are killing our youths,” he said.

Meanwhile, a 17 year old pupil from Hamilton High School who allegedly fatally stabbed the late learner has since appeared in court facing charges of murder.

The tragic incident comes on the backdrop of an increase in gang brawls at boys’ schools such as Hamilton, Milton and Gifford High schools.

Most of the clashes are reportedly fuelled by the need to control territories in the city centre and generational beliefs of enmity that are passed down to freshman by the seniors during orientation.- ZBC News

Footballer Atsu Dies

Christian Atsu has tragically been confirmed to have died following the devastating earthquake in southern Turkey and northern Syria last week.
The 31-year-old’s whereabouts remained unknown after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that took place in the early hours of the morning of February 6.

More than 42,000 people have been killed and thousands more injured, while millions have been left homeless following the disaster.

There were hopes the former Chelsea, Newcastle, Bournemouth and Everton winger had been rescued, but his club Hatayspor and agent Nana Sechere had revealed over the past week that these claims were untrue.

Several search and rescue operations in the debris of the building where Atsu and Hatayspor’s sporting director Taner Savut lived, took place – with Savut also missing.

Sechere explained on Tuesday how Atsu’s exact ‘room location’ and even two pairs of his shoes had been located.

It was then confirmed by another of Atsu’s agents Murat Uzunmehmet that he had been found under the rubble on Saturday, 12 days after the earthquake.

Uzunmehmet told reporters: ‘Atsu’s lifeless body was found under the rubble. Currently, more items are still being taken out. His phone was also found.’

31-year-old Atsu enjoyed an extremely impressive football career after he broke through with Portuguese giants Porto.

His exploits in Portugal – which also included a loan spell at Rio Ave – led to Atsu earning a move to Chelsea.

He spent five years at Stamford Bridge but never actually made an appearance for the first team as he spent temporary spells away from the club with Vitesse Arnhem, Everton, Bournemouth, Malaga and Newcastle, before he made a permanent move to the Magpies in 2016.

He was promoted to the Premier League with the club during the 2016-17 season under Rafa Benitez and he made 121 appearances in total over five years.

Upon leaving Newcastle, he moved to Saudi Arabia to play for Al-Raed, before he joined Hatayspor last September.

Atsu also had a decorated international career, winning 65 caps for Ghana and scoring nine goals, while he also represented them at the 2014 World Cup.

He was awarded Player of the Tournament at the 2015 AFCON when the Black Stars came runners-up.

After growing up in Ghana, Atsu had moved to Portugal to pursue his dream of becoming a professional footballer at the age of just 17.

Atsu was a devout Christian and married his wife Marie-Claire Rupio Atsu in 2012. The couple had three children together – two sons and a daughter.- Newsday

Granpa Drowns In Flooded River

A 63-year-old-man drowned in Mabonyane River near Maphisa Growth Point, Matobo District in Matabeleland South province while attempting to cross the river which was flooded.
He was in the company of two other men. The deceased, Nhlanganiso Tshuma, a villager under Chief Fuyana was swept away by the floods on Thursday and his body was found the following day about 5km from the bridge by the riverside. A video of Tshuma being swept away is circulating on social media. Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the incident.

“The incident happened on Thursday as the now deceased attempted to cross a river in flood and when he was halfway through, he was overpowered by the water and swept away,” said Insp Mangena.

Tshuma was allegedly coming from Maphisa Growth Point on his way home. There were cars and people who were waiting for the river to subside when the three decided to cross, and he was swept away halfway through the bridge.

Insp Mangena said people should never take chances with flooded rivers, saying they risk losing their lives. She said people should always wait for rivers to subside before attempting to cross.

The current rains have also seen a video of a donkey drawn scotch-cart being swept away while trying to cross a flooded river. A video of a donkey drawn scotch-cart surfaced yesterday, showing donkeys and the scotch- cart carrying firewood being swept away by floods at a narrow bridge along the Bulawayo Solusi road. The incident is said to have taken place on Friday and two men who were on board the scotch-cart escaped unhurt. Sources said a scotch-cart load of firewood fetches US$60 in the city, and most fire wood traders come from the Solusi area, about 50km from Bulawayo.

In some videos circulating, bus and private cars drivers will be urged on by onlookers who will be whistling and cheering them on to cross flooded rivers, but police have warned drivers to desist from attempting to cross rivers that are in flood.

The country has lately been receiving significant amounts of rainfall and the Meteorological Service Department has warned the country’s citizens of dangers such as drowning and lightning while it is raining.-state media

Mnangagwa Flies To Addis Ababa As Country Burns

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he is attending the 36th Ordinary Session of the African Union summit.

President Mnangagwa left Harare this Friday morning and was seen off at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport by Vice President, General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga and other senior government officials.

Upon arrival in Addis Ababa, he was welcomed at the Bole International Airport by Ethiopia’s Minister of Culture and Sport Kejela Merdasa, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador Frederick Shava and other officials.

For the next two days, African heads of state will meet to discuss issues affecting the continent, with the summit running under the theme: “The Year of ACFTA: Acceleration of the African Continental Free Trade Area Implementation”.

For the free trade area to be fully operational, air and rail connectivity is key for African countries and in that regard the leaders are expected to discuss infrastructure development.

Conflict that has rocked some African countries like Democratic Republic of Congo is also expected to be discussed.

With a growing population, Africa is facing food insecurity due to climate change and the next few days will see the leaders exploring ways to boost agriculture.

The last few years have seen the Second Republic focusing on building new dams and setting up irrigation infrastructure to ensure the country attains food security.

Among the flagship projects is the Gwayi-Shangani Lake and the Tugwi-Mukosi Dam which has the potential to irrigate 40 000 hectares.- ZBC News

Exam Leaks

State Media – The govt is set to appoint an Independent Commission of Inquiry to assess the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) following a surge in examination paper leakages as well as “extremely” high grades being scored by pupils at Advanced (A) level, among a number of concerns raised against the examination body.

This was revealed by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr Evelyn Ndlovu, while presenting a Ministerial statement on the management of the leakages of some Ordinary (O) level examination question papers in the National Assembly last Wednesday.

The examining body came under spotlight following numerous leakages that were reported during the course of the public examinations last year.

Following the release of A level results last month, Zimsec was once again on the spotlight as some candidates recorded high grades for more than three subjects, that the public described as results inflation. Some pupils set for as much as ten subjects, against the standard three subjects, while high grades were recorded of up to 50 points. Each A pass grade carries five points at A level, with a B carrying four points and a C carrying three points, D (two points) and E (one point), with grades not carrying points being Ordinary and Fail.

The concerns raised by the public saw Members of Parliament requesting Dr Ndlovu to respond through a ministerial statement. In her presentation, Dr Ndlovu highlighted some of the measures that Government will implement to restore the credibility of the examining body, with the setting up of a Commission of Inquiry being one of them.

“I think we will restore credibility by having a Commission of Inquiry which will assess whether Zimsec is doing the right thing or they are leaking the examination papers. The results and recommendations will guide us accordingly. On legislative changes, I promise that we are going to push for the Zimsec Amendment Bill to go through the relevant committees, it goes through Cabinet then it comes to Parliament. We have a draft amendment Bill in place. That draft must go through the Cabinet process then come to Parliament for approval,” said Dr Ndlovu.

Turning to the high pass grades at A level, Dr Ndlovu said Government will look into regulating the number of subjects written through formulating a policy.

“At A level, how can people believe in people who attain 20 points? I think we need to come up with a policy to limit the number of subjects that are written by our children. We really need to come up with a policy as a Ministry that, at most, a child should register four subjects at A level.

“The issue of writing 10 subjects and all why? There is confusion, so I think; we will come up with a policy so that at least our children can write four subjects. After all, our universities require only three subjects – Yes, they need three. So, the maximum, we will recommend, as a Ministry, that we come up with a policy where we reduce the number of A level subjects.”

She said some examination papers were leaked from a school in Matabeleland South.

“The Zimsec security worked with the Commercial Crime Division of the CID and the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) to trace the source of the leakage after the leakage was reported on 16 October from the Zvishavane area. The team found out that the question papers in three subjects leaked from Thokozane Secondary School in Matabeleland South Province and circulated on WhatsApp and some social media platforms. The question papers were peddled by some ordinary citizens and some Advanced level candidates charging those who needed the question papers,” said Dr Ndlovu.

She said candidates and school officials and ordinary citizens who posted question papers on WhatsApp and those that bought them were arrested and appeared in court.

“The sentences they got, however, were either community service or fines. Mr Kudakwashe Betserayi who fraudulently registered an Econet sim card in Zimsec’s name and sold question papers was arrested in Masvingo and is still on remand. The head and the deputy head of Thokozane Secondary School are still in custody in remand in Filabusi,” said Dr Ndlovu.

The head and deputy head of Thokozane Secondary School who had the keys to where the question papers were are alleged to have broken the keys which belong to the monitor and stole the examination papers and sold them to an attendant at a pharmacy in Zvishavane. The pharmacy attendant is alleged to have sold the question papers on social media platforms. —-Sunday News

Form 2 Pupil Electrocuted

Chief Mafala of Zvishavane has appealed for a common understanding between the parents of a 14-year-old Form Two boy who was electrocuted last year while in school at Dadaya High and the school authorities so that the boy can be buried.

The boy, Tanaka Chihwendo’s body has now clocked four months in the mortuary at a Zvishavane parlour with parents and the school authorities failing to find each other to set conditions for burial.

Tanaka, a bright and promising boy who always came tops in his class, was electrocuted in early October last year after he got into contact with a live power line while playing with other boys at Dadaya High School.

Since then, the boy’s relatives have been demanding a full report from the school amid reports that police and the power utility investigations have allegedly since discovered that the power line that electrocuted the boy was an illegal connection by the school.

The school, which has been footing mortuary bills being charged by a private funeral parlour, is still refusing to bow to the parents’ demands for fear of being sued.

The deceased boy’s family spokesperson, Mr Edson Mambo said they have since engaged lawyers to force the school to provide them with a report on the circumstances leading to the boy’s death.

“This is what we are asking for, a report from the school, at law when the kid is in school the school assumes the role of a parent so we are saying the school was the parent when our kid was electrocuted so they should just give us the biological parents a report of electrocution, but they are refusing so maybe there is something behind it and we have now become very curious,” said Mr Mambo.

He said the family lawyers were now handling the matter.

“The boy remains unburied and our lawyers have taken over, they are now handling the matter after which we will then decide on when to bury our departed boy,” he said.

Chief Mafala who has been mediating on the matter said the process has not yielded anything as yet with the boy’s body still unclaimed in the mortuary.

“It’s been a frustrating mediation process with nothing tangible as of yet. The boy’s body remains in the mortuary and this is my biggest worry. We need to put him to his final resting place so my appeal to the two parties is that let’s bury the boy, let us give him rest, and then if there are talks, let them continue after burial as we try to find each other,” he said.

Chief Mafala said the school has been incurring mortuary charges with the deceased family still adamant, sticking to their conditions and denying responsibility. Chief Mafala said it was a fact that the boy was electrocuted and any further investigations can be done even when the boy is buried.

“It was a very unfortunate incident but everyone is in pain but it’s important that we put the boy to rest,” he said.-Sunday News

Dodgy Miners4ED Crooks Invade Ascot Gold Mine

A gang of so called, Miners4ED, has invaded Ascot Gold Mine, the local MP Temba Mliswa laments in the below letter to the police:

Dear Commissioner-General Matanga,

RE: LETTER OF CONCERN AND REQUEST FOR URGENT INTERVENTION AND
INVESTIGATION – ASCOT GOLD MINE, NORTON
The above refers.

Commissioner-General, Sir, I hereby lodge, in my capacity as the duly elected Member of Parliament for Norton Constituency, this letter of concern and request for intervention and investigation to be instituted into Ascot Gold Mine in Norton, Mashonaland West.

In my mandated role of legislation, and particularly that of representation and oversight in this instance, and further at the behest of the Norton Miners Association, acting on behalf of one Mr. Gomwe, both herein copied, I fervently appeal for your urgent intervention at the aforementioned gold mine to prevent any further loss of life, injustice and corrupt practices from prevailing.

The bane of the matter as has been presented and understood is summarised and captured as follows:

1. Ascot Gold Mine is duly registered with the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development under Kingross Investments (Pvt) Ltd and run by Mr. Gomwe.

2. However, an insurgent group of individuals under the guise of ZANU-PF’s Miners4ED claim to be in possession of a tribute agreement pertaining to the mine, and have illegally taken it over. Such agreement is put to the strictest proof thereof. This same group are alleged to engage in abusing the name of ZANUPF and His Excellency, President E. D. Mnangagwa for self-aggrandisement, an abhorrent practice which should be nipped in the bud.

3. A one Mr. Timothy Masviba (ZANUPF Provincial Youth member from Chegutu) and another Mr. Edmore Mamoyo (ZANUPF Youth League member and gold sponsor) are alleged to be at the forefront of the shenanigans leading to the illegal takeover of the Mine.

4. Others also implicated in the illegal mine takeover are as follows:
i. Nhimbe (C.I.D. Norton)
ii. Msipa (C.I.D. Norton MFFU)
iii. Jona Nsingo (ZANUPF Youth Chairperson & Forever Associates of
Zimbabwe FAZ member) iv. Edina Zambe (ZANU-PF Youth member)
v. Tapiwa Mukewa (ZANUPF Youth Chairperson)
vi. Tapiwa Cephas (ZANUPF Youth Chairperson & FAZ member)
vii. Munyaradzi Matangira (ZANU-PF Youth)
viii. Emmerson Denga (ZANU-PF Youth Chairperson)
ix. Moyenda Maseko (ZANU-PF Youth Chairperson)
x. Kelvin Chinhongo (ZANU-PF Youth Chairperson/ZNA)
xi. Reuben Erissa (ZANUPF Youth Chairperson)
xii. P. Matangira (ZANUPF Youth Chairperson/ZNA)
xiii. P. Jambaya (ZANUPF Youth Chairperson) xiv. C. Masiye (ZANUPF Youth Chairperson)
xv. Sam (Gold Buyer)

5. Of extreme concern to note in the above list and attached picture, is the presence of members of the police force who have further been captured on camera engaged in political party sloganeering.

6. Despite the existence of a letter to Ascot Gold Mine issued on the 8th December 2021 by the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development suspending all mining operations on Ascot Gold Mine pending an investigation into a fatal accident which occurred on the mine, the aforementioned group of people have continued with their illegal mining operations on the mine which are often carried on at night. Since this suspension, another suspicious fatality, that of Kelvin Bheza again occurred on the 14th December 2022.

7. This illegal mining activity is in flagrant violation of not only the illegal possession of the mine, but further violates the suspension handed down by the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development.

8. Not only have these illegal miners disregarded the suspension, but they have further gone on to contravene mining regulations by illegally removing gold ore from the mine without the requisite ore removal permit.

9. Furthermore, the gold illegally processed at a gold processing plant owned by Mr. Mamoyo is alleged not to be being sold to Fidelity Printers and Refiners as per statutory requirement.

10. On the 6th February 2023, another fatality, that of Patrick Gondo, a suspected murder was committed on the mine. The aforementioned illegal miners are alleged to be involved in this case.

11. Furthermore, it is alleged that despite electricity supplies being disconnected at the mine for non-account payment, the electricity supply was illegally reconnected by those illegally operating the mine.

12. What to note is further most concerning is it seems that despite reports being made to the police regarding the criminalities occurring at the mine, no moves have been made to cease the illegal mining activities or institute an investigation into the accusations. This surprising lack of action subsequently gives rise to the obvious suspicion that corruption is being committed between the illegal miners and certain members of the police force.

These matters pertaining to Ascot Mine have been prevailing with impunity for a prolonged period, (see attached Legal Compliance Report dated 9 February 2021). The police should not hide behind the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development in carrying out their mandate.
It is ZRP’s role to implement the directive from the Ministry of Mines and Mining
Development and to protect people’s rights. The alleged tribute agreement should be null and void as they claim it was entered into during the period when the mine had ceased operations as directed by the Mines Ministry.

It is recommended that a lifestyle audit of Mr. Timothy Masviba be conducted, which would likely ascertain that his new found wealth has been gained from the illegal mining activities.

I therefore look forward to hearing from you and for your swift intervention so that sanity may prevail.

Emotive Scenes At Founders Learner Burial

Former DeMbare Forward Joins Moroka Swallows FC

South African top-flight side Moroka Swallows has officially unveiled Tawanda Macheke as their new player.

The 26-year-old has signed a two-year-contract with the Dube Birds.

Macheke first moved to South Africa in January last year, when he joined Maritzburg United from Black Rhinos.

He enjoyed a decent spell under Ernst Middendorp but dropped out of favour following the arrival of Fadlu Davids.

The former Dynamos striker has only played twelve games this season with no goals.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Zidane Reveals Future Plans

Zinedine Zidane has revealed when he expects himself to return to football management.

Zidane has been out of work since ending his second spell as Real Madrid boss in 2021.

He won 11 trophies with Real, including three consecutive Champions League titles in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Zidane, who was talking at Alpine Formula One team’s season launch in London where he was named as their equal opportunities ambassador, said he wants to return to coaching and will wait until June before he can consider a job.

“We talked about it (getting back to coaching with Alpine. It’s part of our agreement,” Zidane told L’Equipe.

“If I have to join a club tomorrow that won’t prevent me from continuing to work with the (Alpine) team, but inevitably it will be a little less dense, since I would be taken on a daily basis.

He added: “And it’s also my desire to resume my job as a coach. To have today a project with Alpine has nothing to do.

“I do it, because I have time right now, but I don’t know how long it will last. It can go very quickly… from the month of June, we’ll see. I repeat, one will not prevent the other. I will give Alpine time to meet and work on our projects.”

Zidane’s name has inevitably been linked with a number of roles, including as coach of Brazil or at Paris Saint-Germain where current manager Christophe Galtier’s future has been questioned after a series of poor results.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Masvingo Journalists Dismiss Shambolic ZUJ Polls

By A Correspondent

Journalists in Masvingo are crying foul over the way the provincial elections were held on Thursday.

Journalists are accusing the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) of not following the constitution and ambushing them, which they allege is a violation of the constitution which says elections must be held upon giving a 30 day notice.

“We were told a day before that the elections to choose a new provincial executive would be held. This is a violation of ZUJ constitution and it shows that we are being led by a presidium that is dictatorial,”said a journalist who did not want to be named.

Other journalists said ZUJ also breached the constitution as the provincial elections were not held using a secret ballot.

“The elections were were not held through the secret ballot as per the requirements of the constitution, members were instructed to vote by raising their hands, again a violation of the union constitution. We are not going to recognize the sham elections.”

Another journalist alleged that those who participated in the elections were not paid up members.

In September last year, Chiredzi based journalist Morris Bishi and other scribes in Masvingo lodged a complaint through their legal advisors, Ruvengo Maboke and Company, citing irregularities in the whole process of conducting the provincial congress.

According to Bishi and others, the constitutional provisions which stipulate that a notice of 30 days should be given before such a congress is held, were clearly violated by the ZUJ leadership.

Part of the letter reads:
” We are advised that you sent a letter on WhatsApp group ( news roundup) of journalists who operate in Masvingo wherein you advised members about your intention to conduct an elective congress on September 23 2022 in the afternoon. We have been advised that the said WhatsApp message was sent on the 16th of September…”

Cervical Cancer Preventable

Young People Ready To Remove Mnangagwa

Tinashe Sambiri|Young people in Masvingo are determined to remove the Zanu PF leader Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa from office via the ballot box.

CCC youth taskforce spokesperson Stephen Sarkozy Chuma on Friday said: ” We are encouraging young people to register to vote in big numbers. We are glad the clarion call has been heard.”

Chuma also wrote on Twitter:

“NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER!!!

The young people in Masvingo are firm in the clarion call to Register Elect And Protect #REAP_zw .

The agenda is simple: it’s to usher in a prosperous New Great Zimbabwe.”

Mnangagwa ‘Found Guilty’ Of 2023 Election Crime

Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been found guilty of violating the constitutional stipulation of publishing the final delimitation report , Transform Zimbabwe leader Jacob Ngaruvhume says.

2 weeks ago, he received the preliminary delimitation report.

After receiving the preliminary report the President must lay it before Parliament – that is, the National Assembly and the Senate – within seven days [section 161(7)].

Within 14 days after that, the President must refer the preliminary report back to ZEC for the Commission to consider any issue raised by himself or Parliament. ZEC must give consideration to any issue so raised, but its decision on them is final [section 161(8) & (9)], analysts at Veritas write. They continue:

Once ZEC has prepared its final delimitation report it must send the report to the President, who must publish it in the Gazette within 14 days [section 161(10) & (11).

It is important to note section 161(2) of the Constitution, which states:

“If a delimitation of electoral boundaries is completed less than six months before polling day in a general election, the boundaries so delimited do not apply to that election, and instead the boundaries that existed immediately before the delimitation are applicable.”

Red Love On T Shirts

For Diouf Ncube (21) and his sweetheart Nokuthula Sibanda (20) it was nothing but a simple public gesture, a declaration of their love and an announcement on Valentine’s Day that they are an item, but for a nation starved of love stories, the trending images of the Bulawayo couple wearing matching t-shirts that were seemingly misprinted (or swapped), the “spectacle” was a source of entertainment.

Diof… love on shirts

On Tuesday, the Pumula South suburb couple brought the city to a standstill as they paraded their love for all to see without fear or shame and in no time they were trending on various social media platforms that include Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp after someone snapped an image of them as they walked past Tredgold Magistrates’ courts.

The two met in 2020 in the hood when they were working in the fields. Diouf spotted Nokuthula and waited for her grandmother to leave the fields before he approached her and asked for her number.

“I passed by their fields and her grandmother seemed to be wrapping up to leave the fields, so I waited from a distance and kept an eye until I was sure that she had left. I approached her and she was very shy, maybe because she had been working in the field and was covered in dirt, you know how girls are when it comes to looking pretty and clean every time.

“When we started talking over the phone, I could tell she was playing hard to get but within a few days I was able to convince her that I was worth a shot,” said Diouf.

For Nokuthula, who was in Form 4 at a local school at the time, the young man was worth risking the relationship she was in as her boyfriend seemed to be too busy to spend time with her.

“When I met Diouf, I was dating someone else, so they co-existed for a couple of days. It was during the Christmas days and I had plans with both of them for Christmas but the consistency and attention that I got from my new man convinced me to leave the other guy. It was really promising and I think he did a really great job in convincing me that he was different,” she said.

The couple’s evening strolls and constant meet-ups were cut short within a few months after Nokuthula was called to South Africa by her mother soon after her final exams.

“The time for her to leave was a very painful moment for both of us and she was the one crying saying she feared that I would forget about her. We agreed to make the long-distance relationship work and somehow, we managed.

“She stayed that side for seven months and came back and we are happy to be celebrating three years in this relationship. I know it is not much because there are people who have been together for decades but for our generation, it is not an everyday thing to come across a young couple that makes it past a year,” said Diouf.

It was not easy for their parents to approve of their relationship but their determination to be together forced their parents to relent.

“When I got to South Africa, I had to use my mum’s phone and I had to explain the contacts that I communicated with. She was furious at first and told me that I was too young to be dating and that I was risking my future but after I narrated my experiences with him and seeing how consistent he was with contacting me even when I was away, she approved and gave me the parental lecture on not rushing into things and other things.

“When I came back I introduced him to my uncle’s wife and she is one of the people who guide us and help us address our issues whenever we seem to be failing to solve them on our own,” said Nokuthula.

Diouf first told his grandmother that Nokuthula was just a friend, nothing more.

“My grandmother first saw me with Nokuthula at our gate and when she asked me who she was, I told her she was just a friend. She obviously didn’t believe that but she never said anything about it until she bumped into us taking an evening stroll. Then I had no other option but to come clean about it and she warned me about playing with girls and breaking their hearts. From then, my grandmother is my counsellor when it comes to everything that we go through,” he said.

Diouf has no time for other girls, he only has eyes for Nokuthula.

“All girls are beautiful out there, and as a young man it is so easy to be chasing around a lot of them but at the end of the day you have to know what you want and focus on building it. She is the one I want, I chose her and I am looking forward to experiencing my life with her and sharing with her everything that life is going to offer us along the way,” he said.

Nokuthula is sticking to one partner and says jumping from one guy to another reduces a woman’s dignity.

“It might seem fun to say ‘ng’yaba qeda abafana’ (I am dating a whole bunch of them), but at the end of the day, you are the one who is being ‘finished’ as a woman. You lose your dignity along the way and risk contracting diseases or pregnancies that will burden you in the long run,” she said.

At the moment, Diouf is an irrigation drip layer operator. His sweetheart is expecting to complete her baking course this June at a local institution in Pumula South.

The couple does not stay together as Nokuthula is taking care of her two siblings who are still at school and Diouf is renting his own place in Pumula South after his grandmother relocated. -state media

Reginald Chidawanyika, chairperson of the Department of Procedural Law, and Panashe Ashley Hwaviva, a Law student, were spotted in videos and pictures put out on the microblogging platform while getting cosy and caressing each other.
The leaked lewd content indicated and confirmed that the two were romantically involved.
One of the pictures was a screenshot of the student, twerking, butt naked in a WhatsApp video call with the lecturer.
A video also showed the lecturer passionately kissing the young lady all over her face.
Speaking to B-Metro, MSU marketing and communications director, Mirirai Mawere confirmed the incident and said it happened during the student’s vacation period.
“Normally, immediate suspension and investigations are initiated. Our policy requires that after suspension, disciplinary action follows,” said Mawere.
However, it appears that Chidawanyika has since resigned.
“The lecturer is no longer with Midlands State University, he resigned on Friday last week (10 February 2023). In this case, we no longer have jurisdiction over the affairs,” Mawere added.
Mawere said severe steps were going to be taken if it was a case of sexual harassment.
“The university has a clear sexual harassment policy which sets parameters. We have incidents where students have reported lecturers concerning harassment. In such scenarios, lecturers are suspended to pave way for investigations. However, most lecturers resign before a hearing,” said Mawere.
In 2018, MSU encountered a similar embarrassing incident where a male student committed suicide after finding out that his girlfriend was having sex with a lecturer.
In the latest case, on some videos Panashe is seen avoiding a kiss from Chidawanyika.
“She didn’t want to be kissed,” said one viewer with a Twitter handle Val Bunjira.
“That lecturer isn’t alone. Many male lecturers approach students and make them fail if they refuse. The gross sexual exploitation and abuse of authority is claiming many silent victims,” added another with a Twitter handle McAuthur Lokie.
The images, however, seem to tell a different story as the student seems to be happy taking videos and pictures with her lecturer. B Metro

Police Block Another Chamisa Meeting

By- The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has blocked another Nelson Chamisa’s opposition CCC party political meeting.

The blocked meeting had been scheduled for Chin’ai business centre in Ward 15 in Gutu Central Constituency on 19 February 2023.

In a letter dated 17 February 2023 and addressed to CCC’s Lloyd Mupfudze, Officer Commanding Masvingo East Police District Chief Superintendent Taurai Joackim Mambure said there is a shortage of manpower to cover the event. He said:
The district is running an annual workshop which is being conducted by Officers from Masvingo Provincial Updating Centre.
The workshop commenced on 13 February 2023 and is planned to end on 26 February 2023.
All officers in Masvingo district are required to attend the workshop, so the stations are left with a skeleton human resource base to cover critical points and react to emergencies.
Hence, considering the expected number of people who are to attend versus the available skeleton manpower we cannot currently manage.
NOW, THEREFORE, I as the Regulating Officer do hereby issue this prohibition notice in terms of section 819) of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act [Chapter 11.23], prohibiting the holding of a public meeting scheduled for 12/02/2023 at Dewure Business Centre, ward 35 Gutu Central Constituency from 1000 hours to 1600 hours.
For the avoidance of doubt, it is declared in terms of section 8 (11) of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act [Chapter 11; 23] that any person who knowingly opposes or fails to comply with this prohibition notice shall be guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding level 14 or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year or to both such fine and such imprisonment.
The Officer-in-Charge ZRP Basera is accordingly advised for the necessary monitoring.
Police recently blocked CCC from holding a meeting at Dewure Business Centre, Ward 35 of Gutu Central Constituency that was scheduled for last Sunday.
Supt Mambure said the application could not be approved since the venue was volatile and prone to violence.

ANC Top Official ‘Convicted’ For Anti-Zimbabweans Rant

By- Top ANC Limpopo provincial government official and the province’s Health MEC, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, has been found guilty of unprofessional conduct for shouting at a bedridden Zimbabwean patient.

The Health Professions Council of South Africa
Dr Ramathuba erred when she ranted at a Zimbabwean patient who had crossed the neighbouring country to seek medical services.

Ramathuba came under fire last year after a video of her ranting about Zimbabwean migrants abusing the health resources in Limpopo went viral.
In the video, an ill-mannered Ramathuba was seen telling a visibly traumatized Zimbabwean patient that her president Emmerson Mnangagwa does not contribute anything towards the province’s health budget.
She said she found it improper to stretch her province’s health budget to cater for foreigners.
Ramathuba’s comments divided Zimbabweans with some saying she was telling the truth about citizens of a country with a broken health system crossing borders to find health services outside.
She was summoned by the Health Professions Council of South Africa Health over xenophobic diatribe.
This was after the Kopanang Africa Against Xenophobia – KAAX, along with several human rights and health advocacy organizations, laid a complaint with the HPCSA against the health professional.

The now deceased was identified as Arnold Mhosva from Chivi, Masvingo province.

His alleged accomplice, identified as Hendrik Nyathi (38) of Farm 158 Dewure small-scale farms in Gutu, is still nursing injuries at Beitbridge District Hospital.

Later, the pair turned against Mazvanara and shot him in the leg before robbing him of US$26 000.  They also attempted to get away with his Honda Fit vehicle.

Mazvanara fought back and wrestled with one of the two robbers on the steering wheel, resulting in a road accident.

Bulawayo Residents Demand Loadshedding Schedule

Bulawayo residents have expressed displeasure over incessant power cuts and further urged the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) to consider publishing its load shedding schedule so they could strategically plan their use of the scarce resource.

This they said during a Thursday engagement meeting between the ZESA Holdings subsidiary and stakeholders who included residents, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) and the Zimbabwe Commercial Farmers Union (ZCFU).

Zimbabwe’s power supplies, which have been erratic in past years, worsened in recent months with businesses premises and households now enduring 12-16 hours of load shedding in a day.

Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association (BPRA) chairperson, Ambrose Sibindi called on ZETDC to issue a clear and transparent load-shedding schedule specific to individual areas.

“Can we please have timetables that will guide residents about the blackouts.

“Can you not shed at night because that is when most of the vandalism happens?

“Copper cable thieves take advantage of this and pounce when power is disconnected,” he said.

Sibindi also implored ZETDC to provide connectivity timelines to new residential stands that are yet to receive electricity.

Bulawayo United Residents Association (BURA) chairperson, Winos Dube said power outages have become a risk to the lives of those living with some ailments while depending of instruments powered by electricity.

“Residents who live on medication that needs to be refrigerated all the time have been negatively affected as their health ends up deteriorating,” he said, adding that unannounced power cuts have also damaged household appliances.

ZETDC general manager in the Loss Control Department, Festo Madembo partially blamed the power crisis on rampant vandalism of the power utility’s infrastructure throughout the country.

“The Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage issues dealership licences to non-manufacturing and non-mining companies.

“Those copper dealership companies, some of them later on turn out to be vandals.“How can we have dealership licences in a country that does not have copper mining?

“We also have the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. The Ministry issues copper export licences to individuals, possibly to those who already have copper dealership licences.

“To do what? To export copper from a country where there is no copper mining. The only copper mine we had closed years ago.

“We are saying as ZESA, why do we issue these copper dealership licences? Issuing of these licences by these two ministries leads to vandalism,” Madembo said.

Madembo added that in 2021, company subsidiary ZENT, manufactured 281 transformers and 288 transformers were stolen in the same year.

Eight Years On, Rights Defender Still Waiting For Trial Over Criminal Nuisance Charge

Pro-democracy campaigner Tendai Lynette Mudehwe has equated her prosecution by Zimbabwean authorities to persecution after her trial on criminal nuisance charges failed to commence for the umpteenth time in eight years.

Mudehwe, the Founder and Co-ordinator of Zimbabwe Activists Alliance, has been appearing in court for the past eight years since she was arrested by Zimbabwe Republic Police officers on 30 November 2015 and charged with criminal nuisance as defined in section 46 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act for allegedly participating in an anti-government demonstration.

She was accused of demonstrating against former Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko’s stay in a luxurious hotel at taxpayers’ expens eafter she entered Rainbow Towers on 30 November 2015, during proceedings of the International Conference on AIDS and STI’s inAfrica (ICASA), with intent to cause annoyance or disturbance of public peace or realising that there was real risk or possibility that her conduct would cause annoyance or disturb peace to the public.

While at the venue of the ICASA conference, prosecutors alleged that Mudehwe started shouting and singing and thereby disrupting the smooth flow of the conference.

Eight years on, Mudehwe, who is represented by Paidamoyo Saurombe of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, is still appearing at Harare Magistrates Court, and on Thursday 9 February 2023, she was advised that her docket was incomplete and hence she would not appear in court.

Saurombe protested that the actions of prosecutors in continuously summoning Mudehwe to travel from Mutare to appear at Harare Magistrates Court, amounted to persecution and he will file an application for permanent stay of prosecution when she returns to court.

Saurombe said if trial does not commence when Mudehwe gets summoned to appear in court, he will institute proceedings for a permanent stay of prosecution as the prosecutor’s conduct would constitute persecution.

Wicknel Scotfree As Town Clerk’s Arrested Over Tender

Acting Gweru Town Clerk and former magistrate Vakai Douglas Chikwekwe was yesterday morning arrested by investigators of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission on allegations of criminal abuse of duty after he allegedly awarded tenders in 2020 for development in Mkoba without following due processes.
He later appeared in court where he was remanded out of custody to March 27 on $100 000 bail.

Chikwekwe (56) was represented by Mr Tonderai Chitere, of Chitere, Chidawanyika and Partners.

He was ordered to report once every fortnight at the ZACC offices in Gweru as part of bail conditions.

The State case against Chikwekwe is, in 2020, Gweru City Council wanted to develop and service Mkoba 21 stands and on 29 May 2020, the Council gazetted an invitation of expression of interest for tender number COG/01/06/2020

Eight prospective bidders submitted their applications and on June 30, 2020, the technical evaluation committee recommended that Sheasham Investments, Casas Properties and Wackdrive Pvt Ltd be short-listed as they were compliant with the mandatory requirements.

On July 3, 2020, the procurement management unit committee chaired by Chikwekwe as acting town clerk approved this short-listing recommendation by the technical evaluation committee and in turn recommended that the tender be submitted to the special procurement oversight committee. Chikwekwe did this on July 29, 2020.

But then, submits the State, Chikwekwe was supposed to obtain clearance from that oversight committee.

Instead, he proceeded to award contracts to the three short-listed bidders on August 18, 2020 without that clearance in contravention of Section 94 (3) of the Public Procurement and Disposal of the Public Assets Act (General) Regulations published as SI 5 of 2018 which required certification by the oversight committee before awarding a contract.

Two days after the contract award, on August 20, 2020, the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe wrote a letter directing the acting Town Clerk to collect bids, extend bid validity, correct the evaluation reports and submit the revised evaluation reports which showed that the special procurement oversight committee had not certified the awarding of the contracts to the three developers.

Chikwekwe allegedly acted inconsistently or contrary to his duties as accounting officer for the City of Gweru by awarding contracts for the servicing of Mkoba 21 stands to the three bidders without clearance from the oversight committee thereby showing favour to the three land developers, the State told the court.

Instead Of Cancer Machine, ZANU PF MP Donates Mortuary To Hospital

NYAMANDLOVU District Hospital finally has a functioning mortuary thanks to the Minister of State for Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs and Devolution Richard Moyo, who used US$50 000 of his own to bankroll the construction of the morgue which will service over 200 000 villagers in Umguza district.
New mortuary, thanks to the Minister of State for Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs and Devolution Richard Moyo.

Since 2015, villagers had to take the remains of their relatives to Bulawayo mortuaries or were forced to bury the dead before they decomposed after the district hospital mortuary became

Having realised the challenge that villagers from Umguza district were facing, Minister Moyo felt the need to do good for his constituency.

Minister Richard Moyo yesterday unveils a plaque to officially open Nyamandlovu District Hospital As someone who is a leader in the community as well as a resident of the district, I was aware of the challenges that the people are facing. What my people had been exposed to is not healthy and it was no longer in accordance with our traditions and cultures. Having gone for many years without a mortuary I had to step up as a community leader and address the situation, hence the reason I chose to channel my personal funds towards the construction of the mortuary,” said Minister Moyo.

He said the development of Umguza district was the responsibility of everyone in the community and that is what pushed him to lead by example.

Matabeleland North Provincial Medical Director, Mr Admire Kuretu said the commissioning of the mortuary shows that Minister Moyo is the ideal leader of the province.

“We greatly appreciate the great works that our minister is doing in our district, this shows that we voted for the right person and we are being represented well. Such generous works by the minister show that he has truly embraced the spirit of oneness and moving together as one. While the minister could have chosen to do something good for his family, he chose to channel that money towards construction of a state-of-the-art mortuary to the aid of his community,” said Mr Kuretu.

“We are truly grateful as residents of Umguza for what our minister has done for us. It is with great gratitude that we appreciate the works that he has been implementing in our constituency as a whole. This donation of a mortuary will go a long way in solving the challenges that we were facing as people of Umguza.

“Since we did not have a mortuary we were either forced to send the bodies of our departed to mortuaries to Bulawayo or bury them in a rush. Since the time the minister was sworn into office, he has shown great dedication and will for the people of Umguza. We wish that he continues being the person that he is and continues to develop our constituency,” said Chief Deli.

A villager, Mrs Margaret Masiza said she appreciates the efforts by the minister.

“We are grateful for having a listening leader in our constituency. He has always made efforts in delivering our pleas as a community. The President made the right choice by appointing him as the Minister of State because he has used his position to do good deeds in developing our district. This shows that he has truly adopted the President’s spirit of moving together and leaving no place behind,” she said. -state media

Doctor Aspirant Killed By Bullies

When a group of boys stood by the gate and shouted obscenities at mourners, Simiso Mdlawuzo (28), who was among the mourners at a house in Pumula South suburb in Bulawayo confronted them with the intention of reprimanding them.
He, however, seemed to have got more than what he had bargained for when they fatally knifed him.

Murdered…victim in his good days

Simiso was with his Johane Masowe Wechishanu church members when the drunk boys besieged their gate and chanted slogans demanding that church members must vacate the home. They said they wanted to bury their fellow resident-Cornelius Moyo.

One of the church elders who spoke to B-Metro on condition of anonymity said: “They were insulting us and Simiso confronted the boys to tell them to respect the mourners but when he got there, they manhandled him before one of the boys stabbed him with a sharp object. They accused him of being part of the church members that killed Moyo,” said the elder.

The church elder said within a few minutes Simiso returned clutching his chest and asked to be rushed to the police station. A church mate ferried him there.

“While on our way to the police station Simiso started to experience difficulties in breathing and he was sweating profusely. We removed his jacket before taking him out of the car and made him lie on the ground.

“While he was lying on the ground facing upwards, he once again clutched his chest as he said he was feeling excruciating pain. He died while an ambulance was being called to the scene,” said the

The incident was reported to the police.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.

“We confirm that a man who was attending a funeral in Pumula South suburb was stabbed and later died while he was being transported to a police station,” he said.

Insp Ncube appealed for information that could lead to the arrest of the alleged killer.

“Anyone who knows the person who stabbed Simiso Mdlawuzo may contact any nearest police station or call us on 229-60358. Even anyone who has information, whether insignificant, may he or she kindly approach any police station or could leave that information at a suggestion box at any police station,” he said. -B Metro

Rapists On The Prowl…

The upsurge in cases of child sexual exploitation has become a major source of worry with statistics indicating that 30 cases of rape and aggravated indecent assault were dealt with at the Harare Magistrates Court last month alone.

The month of January saw the Harare Magistrates Court dealing with 30 cases of sexual exploitation, with 14 of the accused persons being convicted.

Some of the cases include that of a father who raped his teenage daughter and was jailed for 20 years.

Another conviction was that of a self-styled prophet who was jailed for 18 years after raping a teenager at his shrine.

A suspected serial rapist who was targeting teenagers in Harare was also arrested and appeared in court facing 14 charges of rape. He was remanded in custody.

Cases of child sexual exploitation are also prevalent in other parts of the country with a State lawyer stationed in Gokwe having been slapped with an 18-year jail term for raping his friend’s four-year-old daughter.

In Gwanda, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her father and another close relative.

However, measures to deal with perpetrators of sexual violence are being put in place, with the provision of a minimum mandatory sentence for rape being one of the amendments sought in the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Amendment Bill gazetted last year.

The amendment proposes a minimum, mandatory sentence for rape to be a 15-year jail term. – ZBC News

By Wezhira Munya

Today, Gutu magistrate Ndlovu acquitted two Citizens Coalition for Change members: Mr Tinotenda Makumbe, aged 20 years, and Mr Nhamo Makumbe, aged 45, today.

Mr Tinotenda is the son to Mr Nhamo Makumbe.

Renowned human rights lawyer, Advocate Martin Mureri successfully represented these two CCC members.

The two CCC members were falsely accused of assaulting a Zanu PF member, Deadly Poronoria, on 11th November 2021 in Michigain Bar, Gutu.

CCC members – the Makumbes informed the court that they were beaten by Zanu PF members for wearing their party regalia.

It is widely observed that Zanu PF members have developed an art of lying that they are being beaten by CCC members. However, the courts have detected such lies.

Mr John Makumbe said that “I am happy that we were acquited by the magistrate. The magistrate found me and my son not guilty. What is painful is that, Zanu PF members beat us and they were not arrested.”

Furthermore, the accused informed the court that Zanu PF youth namely: Jonathan Magomo, Admire Chimuka, Tawanda Sarukore and complaint Deadly Poronoria are the ones who beat them.

The Zanu PF youth members told the Makumbes that “CCC is a banned political party in Gutu. Therefore, they must no wear CCC regalia in Gutu.”

Dr. Munyaradzi Chidarikire a social scientist said, “Political party members should not abuse police and courts to settle their battles. Political party members should respect each other and no violence must be used.”

Last year, Zanu PF youth assaulted CCC members in Gutu. Cases of politically motivated violence have escalated in Gutu. In related circumstances, Bulawayo CCC councillor Arnold Batsirai Dube was nearly killed by Zanu PF youths in Gutu during President Chamisa’s visit to Gutu. Similarly, CCC Gutu councillor, Wickleaf Matindike was falsely arrested by police for illegally possessing a gun.

On a separate note, CCC Chiredzi champions, honourable Mugidho, Mai Chikwiriro and Tendai Dhangu donated a wheel chair to ward 19 resident, Vivian Anesu Mareya, who cannot walk.

One Chiredzi resident Magret Shoko said that “my heart is touched by Citizens Coalition for Change members who donated wheel chair to Vivian. She is now mobile. May God bless honourable Mugidho, Mai Chikwiriro and Tendai Dhangu.”

As such, CCC under leadership of President Nelson Chamisa is pro-poor and geared to stand with those from marginalized backgrounds.

Messi’s Dad Rules Out Return To Barcelona

Lionel Messi’s father, Jorge, does not expect his son to return to Barcelona during his playing career.

Messi was forced to leave Barca after his contract expired in the summer of 2021.

The player wanted to stay at the Camp Nou, but the club’s dire financial situation meant they couldn’t afford to keep him on their books.

He joined French giants PSG in August 2021, and the transfer marked the first time the forward played for a different team in his senior career.

Now, with his deal in Paris set to expire at the end of the season and the parties yet to agree to new terms, speculation over the Argentine’s future has emerged.

A move to a Major League Soccer (MLS) club or a Saudi Arabian side has been mooted but a return to Camp Nou is likely not going to happen.

“I don’t think Leo will play for Barcelona again,” Jorge, who is involved in his son’s football career, told Spanish newspaper SPORT. “The conditions are not met. We have not spoken with [club president Joan] Laporta and there is no offer on the table.”

Messi scored a club-record 672 senior goals and won a club-record 35 trophies – including 10 LaLiga titles and four Champions Leagues – during his time at Barcelona. – Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Hazard A Lazy Player – John Obi Mikel

John Obi Mikel has described Eden Hazard as the laziest player he has ever seen.

Mikel played along with Hazard at Chelsea between 2012 and 2017.

The pair worked under many coaches that include Jose Mourinho, Rafael Benitez, Guus Hiddink, and Antonio Conte.

Speaking to radio show Dubai Eye 103.8, as cited by the Sport Bible, the former Nigerian midfielder opened up about training habits of Hazard and admitted he got away with it due to his standout performances on matchday.

“I never knew how much training meant to these guys until I joined Chelsea,” Mikel said.

“The way they play in games is the way they train. There was tackles flying in, there was fights at the training ground. There’s people proper boxing at the training ground because everybody wants to be in the team come the weekend.

“There is no place for you to like be like, ‘Okay, I don’t want to train today.’ The only player I saw that did that and got away with it was Eden Hazard.”

After the radio host mentioned that John Terry said the same thing about Hazard, former midfielder Mikel added: “Oh, he never trained! He was the laziest footballer I’ve ever seen in my life! But come the weekend he produced. He was the Man of the Match.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Wadyajena Steals US$5 Million From Cottco, Chops It With Harare Slay Queen In Paris On Valentines Day

By-Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena has flown a Harare slay Queen, Natalie Mhandu, to Paris for a vacation.

This happened a few days after the courts cleared him of stealing US$5 million from the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe.

Wadyajena and the slay queen were spotted near the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France on Valentines’ Day.

After the pictures went viral on social media, some people on Twitter cited the bad roads in Gokwe-Nembudziya, as an example of misplaced priorities on the part of Wadyajena.

Outspoken Norton MP Temba Mliswa, in a series of tweets, blasted the people of Gokwe-Nembudziya for the choices they make in selecting their leaders. He said:

It’s disturbing that we still have people voting for politicians like these. This is a guy who has been involved in a US$5 million Cottco case which has disenfranchised many farmers. Here he is lavishly spending the money in a foreign land while we say we are fighting corruption.

Back here the people he swindled are suffering the effects and there has been no accountability. Why do people still vote for such? As the electorate are you not partly to blame when you get low standard leaders because of your voting choices?

Mnangagwa vs Ramaphosa On Destroying Councils’ Service Delivery

VIDEO LOADING BELOW….

QUESTION: President Kenyatta I know you’re on your last term, perhaps you may have offered tips on how to get a second term? Ramaphosa: I knew you were going to be naughty and slip in a local question when we are on the international stage here. I thought that what happens in Vagas stays in Vagas.

I did say to President Kenyatta that his timing for visiting South Africa is really poor; he should have come on the 1st Nov; as a good friend I know he would have voted for us, so now we have lost, we didn’t have his vote. No, what is unfolding is how democracy works. This is the footsteps if you like of democracy, and we have seen it play out throughout the country, and indeed as president of the governing party, it is disappointing for the African National Congress; but that is how we should accept the clear message of our people on the African national Congress. We have taken heed, we have listened, and this for us is a big setback but it is also a big lesson and we are a party that learns a very quickly…

And we are going to go to the drawing board we are going to reflect on all these setbacks and all we want to see speaking now as president of the Republic I would like to see stability in our local government sector, that whatever coalitions have been formed and are being formed, will result in stable local government, that we don’t have instability and collapse of local govt, and motions of no confidence to a appoint where service delivery will not be given to the people of a country.

So I will call on those who have emerged victorious, to say, ensure that there’s stable govt, and congratulate those who have succeeded, I was particularly pleased to see that the number of female metro-mayors have come to the fore, on the platform and that is good in as far as our agenda to promote the empowerment of women and it behoves well for the State of the Republic of South Africa and we wish those councillors who’ve been elected the very best and may all continue to work well for the people of various communities – ZimEye

Uproar Over Govt Decision To Hike Practicing Certificate Fees For Nurses

Government has increased practicing certificate fees for nurses by 150% to US$50, causing an uproar among health professionals.

The practicing certificates determine whether a health worker is qualified in the country, and is renewed every year.

The development comes at a time when the country has been experiencing mass exodus of health personnel due to poor working conditions.

In a circular dated February 10, 2023, Nurses Council of Zimbabwe registrar Mercy Chaka said the fee could also be paid in local currency at the prevailing official rate.

“Certificates for good standing and confirmation letters are to be paid in USD only. Registration and re-registration fees US$50; transfer to admin register US$50; application for private clinic US$500; application for certificate for good standing US$300, application for confirmation letter US$300,” the circular read.

Zimbabwe Nurses Association president Enock Dongo said the fees were beyond the reach of the majority of poorly-paid nurses.

“If they don’t pay the practice licenses, it means they no longer have a valid practicing certificate. A lot of nurses will not afford to pay for that certificate.  If one fails, they are not allowed to practice as a nurse. There are penalties when you also fail to pay on time.  What it means is that there is no justification at all costs.  It demotivates the already demotivated health workers,” Dongo said.

“There is nowhere in this economy where one can afford that amount from $20 to $50 which is more than 150% increase. They started by increasing the letter for good standing from US$150 to US$300 as a way to block nurses who wanted to go outside the country to look for greener pastures.”

He accused the Nurses Council Board of frustrating health workers.

“The Nurses Council Board was established by an Act of Parliament which stipulates that the board must be controlled by the nurses themselves.  Unfortunately, the Nurses Council Board was illegally appointed by the Minister of Health without due processes followed.”

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom (UK) administration has availed £15 million to facilitate the recruitment of international health and social care workers, Zimbabweans included.

In a recent communication, the UK said it had extended the recruitment of health and social care employees to 2024.

Many Zimbabweans have resorted to undertaking nurse aid courses to ensure they are eligible for recruitment as adult social care workers in the UK and other European countries.

Marry Mubaiwa Forces Magistrate To Postpone Trial After Vomiting In The Dock

The trial of Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s estranged wife Marry Mubaiwa on an attempted murder charge, failed to kick off yesterday after she fell sick and vomited in the dock.

Her lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa then asked for postponement of the matter to March 13, but  State prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti insisted on going to trial saying he had to call off his official leave to prosecute the matter.

Mtetwa said Mubaiwa was not fit to stand trial, but had no medical affidavit to support her argument.

“She is not fit to stand trial. You said a medical report is required, but she does not have the medical report because the doctors are afraid of VP Chiwenga, who happens to be the Health minister. Look, she is sleeping in the dock. You can have physical inspection of the dock and if you’re quite happy to see her as being fit, then we can proceed to trial. This is not our creation,” Mtetwa said.

“We have a judgment concerning that a fair trial includes accused persons being in a state of mind that allows him or her to concentrate. Ironically, the case law involved the same accused where your brother magistrate Ngoni Nduna insisted she goes through a trial when she is unwell, and this is a breach to the right to a fair trial.

“She cannot follow the proceedings. With due respect it is a clear breach of the Constitution which requires that there be equality for the law as section 56 of the Constitution states,” Mtetwa told Harare magistrate Florence Chakanyuka.

The matter was remanded to today for trial.

The State had brought three witnesses who are Chiwenga’s aides.

Mubaiwa is accused of trying to kill Chiwenga at a private South African hospital, at a time when he was battling for life.

She had her application challenging jurisdiction dismissed by Chakanyuka.

Real Madrid Shine

Real Madrid established an early advantage and were comfortable throughout – no surprise as Elche are bottom of La Liga with only nine points all season.

Asensio opened the scoring with a wonderful winding run and finish inside 15 minutes. Benzema was next, twice converting from the penalty spot to give Madrid a convincing 3-0 lead at half-time. Luka Modric made it four with 15 minutes remaining, smashing the ball into the top corner to complete an emphatic showing.

Madrid are now eight points behind Barcelona, and will need help from elsewhere to stay in the title race, but they avoided slipping further behind here.

He’s not exactly gone through a drought, but Karim Benzema needed his goals on Wednesday.

The reigning Ballon d’Or winner has been rattled with injuries this season, and with Madrid short-handed through the middle, he is still their only natural goalscoring threat. His brace made things easy for Madrid, and effectively put the game away by half-time. While he didn’t grab a hat-trick, it was still an immensely successful night for the Frenchman.- Goal.com

KNIFE ATTACK: Man Killed At Funeral

When a group of boys stood by the gate and shouted obscenities at mourners, Simiso Mdlawuzo (28), who was among the mourners at a house in Pumula South suburb in Bulawayo confronted them with the intention of reprimanding them.
He, however, seemed to have got more than what he had bargained for when they fatally knifed him.

—-B Metro

Tswana Pastor Accused Of Killing Zim Hooker After Pleasuring Self On Her

A Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) pastor based in Francistown, Botswana has been accused over the alleged murder of a suspected Zimbabwean commercial sex worker who was found dead in her house in Maun on Christmas eve.

According to reports by one of Botswana’s popular newspapers, The Voice, the married pastor, Marvin Pelonomi Radihephi (38) is suspected to have killed 48-year-old Warricious Bhunu after he allegedly solicited sex services from her.

For the alleged grisly murder Radihephi has since appeared before Maun Magistrate Court where he was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody on condition that he reports every two weeks at Francistown Police Station.

Police are reportedly waiting for DNA and postmortem results, which will guide the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on how to proceed with the case.

DNA tests from a used condom are also expected to be used to either link or exonerate Radihephi.

Circumstances as reported by The Voice, are that Bhunu was hired by Radihephi for services for two days and the pastor is alleged to have solicited sex services, two days before Christmas Day when he was visiting his home village of Maun.

Bhunu was alleged to have been found dead in her house located along a street commonly known as Harare at Sanyedi ward the next morning.

“The pastor allegedly travelled from Francistown where he resides with his wife, met a woman friend in Maun and they spent most of the day together. Later on, he is said to have dropped the woman off, but she allowed him to use her car, a VW,” reports The Voice.

Further reports The Voice: “It appears the pastor then went to spend a night with a sex worker at her rented room as the same car was spotted parked outside the house.

“It was seemingly a normal morning as other tenants were going about their morning chores, others doing laundry and some sweeping when Radihephi allegedly emerged from the room and sat in the car on Christmas Eve, which was on a Sabbath.

“Allegedly nobody paid much attention until around six o’clock when one of Bhunu’s friends came around to check on her.”

She greeted Radihephi, whose vehicle was parked right in front of Bhunu’s doorstep, and asked him if the woman was in.

“She asked him where the woman who lived in that room was, and he told her she was inside. She then knocked at the door before going in.”

The paper said a witness, who stays in the neighbourhood of the sex worker, added that she was one of the people that came rushing to the scene when the sex worker’s lady friend who found her dead screamed for help.

“Bhunu was allegedly lying naked and motionless on the floor and beside her were some used condoms.

“Meanwhile, Radihephi, who was said to have been sitting in the parked car, is said to have sped off, but not before witnesses had noted down the car registration numbers,” further reports The Voice.

The matter was then reported to the police and the car owner tracked down. She is said to have told the police that she had lent the vehicle to pastor Radihephi, who was later arrested while in possession of the same car.

Bhunu’s body has since been repatriated back home and was buried last month. —B Metro/The Voice

Marry Mubaiwa Falls Ill During Court Hearing

Harare regional magistrate Mrs Feresi Chakanyuka yesterday postponed the start of Marry Mubaiwa’s trial on charges of attempting to kill Vice President Constantino Chiwenga when he was hospitalised in South Africa to today to allow her to bring proof of her alleged illness to court.

This was after her lawyer Ms Beatrice Mtetwa told the court that she was unfit to stand trial, although there were no reports from medical practitioners to back that assertion.

She told the court that Mubaiwa fell asleep as she was making her submissions, a clear sign that she was ill.

Ms Mtetwa then applied for postponement of the matter to allow Mubaiwa to heal.

The State led by Mr Lancelot Mutsokoti opposed the application unless the assertions of ill health were backed by medical reports and told the court that Ms Mtetwa’s averments should be dismissed.

“There is no record from medical practitioners and without proof we cannot prove that any person is unwell,” he said. “The court is being asked to believe that she allegedly vomited in the dock and she is not able to follow trial, yet there is no proof that she is unwell.

“There is no basis upon which this application can be granted. That comment that doctors are afraid to give her a medical report should be dismissed with the contempt it deserves.” – state media

Gunners Fall

The reigning champions took an unwarranted lead on 24 minutes when Kevin De Bruyne pounced on an error to precisely lob Aaron Ramsdale, but we bounced back and drew level three minutes before the break through a Bukayo Saka penalty.

After finding ourselves on the right side of some VAR fortune after a City penalty was overturned, second half goals from Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland saw us slip to our first home defeat of the campaign.

Good start extinguished
The opening 24 minutes were played amidst a ferocious atmosphere at Emirates Stadium as the Gooners backed the boys with passion, leading us to come flying out of the traps and heap plenty of pressure on our opponents.

An early sign of intent came when Granit Xhaka flashed a fierce drive over the bar just a couple of minutes in, and we could have taken the lead midway through the first half when a wicked Oleksandr Zinchenko cross found Eddie Nketiah unmarked in the box, but our striker miscued his header and a great chance went begging.

And that would prove crucial as City went straight up the other end and found the net. A clearance by Ederson was flicked on by Haaland, allowing Grealish and Takehiro Tomiyasu to chase it down. Our defender got there first but under pressure, his backpass to Ramsdale was too weak, allowing De Bruyne to nip in and lob the ball into an unguarded net.

Saka strikes back
That setback came completely against the run of play, but we responded to it well and continued to look the more dangerous side. Moments after falling behind, Tomiyasu nearly found the perfect response when he got himself on the end of a cross but saw an awkward volley attempt fly over.

But on 42 minutes, we managed to restore the parity we at least deserved. Nketiah raced into the area and after nudging the ball past Ederson towards the goal, it was hacked off the line by Nathan Ake, but referee Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot after he spotted the City keeper had clattered into the attacker.

After a lengthy delay, and the shot-stopper escaping a second yellow card having been booked for time-wasting minutes before, Saka kept his cool to send the keeper the wrong way and tuck into the bottom corner to restore the Emirates roar.

However we were a lick of paint away from going into the break trailing when deep into stoppage-time at the end of the first half, De Bruyne whipped a free-kick into the box which found a diving Rodri at the back post, and his downward header flicked off the feet of Ake and pinged onto the crossbar, with Ramsdale clearing away the remaining danger.

Double blow
The second half was just as enthralling, and it looked as though Guardiola’s team would be awarded a spot-kick of their own on 57 minutes when Taylor pointed to the spot after adjudging Haaland to have been brought down by Gabriel. As the protests went on, VAR intervened and correctly ruled the Norwegian striker offside and the decision was overturned.

The game was on a real knife-edge at that point as both teams threw players forward trying to seal a precious three points. Nketiah was a whisker away from turning home a Tomiyasu centre, Jorginho had to clear off his own line from Haaland after Ramsdale shovelled away a Rodri header, and then came a hammer blow on 72 minutes.

A loose pass by Gabriel was hoovered up by City, and Haaland charged forward before the ball went through Ilkay Gundogan to Grealish, who saw his shot deflect off the diving Tomiyasu and beat Ramsdale.

And 10 minutes after that, the game was gone when City added a third. Gundogan brought the ball towards the box before finding De Bruyne, who squared for Haaland to take a touch and fire into the bottom corner and ensure City became the first team in history to win seven-straight league games on our turf.- Arsenal News

Sikhala Judge Loses Another Appeal

Fired High Court judge Justice Erica Ndewere has failed to overturn a High Court finding that it has no power to review the recommendations of the Tribunal that resulted in President Mnangagwa removing her from the bench.
Justice Ndewere’s appeal follows the refusal by the High Court to entertain her application for review, especially considering that President Mnangagwa’s action, in terms of the Constitution, completed the process of the judge’s removal from the bench.

A three-member tribunal chaired by retired judge Justice Simbi Mubako, made recommendations for the judge’s removal from the bench for gross incompetence, following an inquiry into her suitability to hold a judicial office.

In her appeal, Ndewere listed as respondents President Mnangagwa, Justice Mubako and the two other members of the tribunal, Advocate Charles Warara and Ms Yvonne Masvora.

The Supreme Court last week knocked down Justice Ndewere’s arguments that the High Court erred in its findings, and dismissed the appeal with costs.

Writing the judgment for the court, Justice Nicholas Mathonsi noted that Justice Ndewere’s legal theories were not in line with the actual law to overturn the High Court’s decision.

The Supreme Court agreed that no valid argument was presented that would have given jurisdiction to the High Court to set aside the President’s final decision after seeing the recommendations of the tribunal.

“Once it is accepted that the court a quo would not have had complete jurisdiction over the application that was before it, this appeal cannot succeed,” said Justice Mathonsi.

In the present case, Ndewere’s appeal was confined to the question of the High Court’s findings on its lack of jurisdiction and Justice Mathonsi noted that the High Court did not exercise jurisdiction which it did not have on the merits of the application, which would have changed the validity of the latest appeal.

“It stuck to the jurisdictional issue which it could lawfully determine,” said the judge.

“In turn, the appeal against the finding as to jurisdiction is valid. Having found that, indeed, the court had no jurisdiction, this appeal cannot be allowed. It must accordingly fail and as such the appropriate order is the dismissal of the appeal.”

Justice Ndewere was fired over gross misconduct in the performance of her duties, including failure to clear her workload in reasonable time and failure to properly study the file on a thief’s conviction and sentence when she set aside a jail term.

She had denied the charges against her claiming that Chief Justice Luke Malaba was pursuing her after she defied his unlawful orders.

She even made several unsuccessful applications to quash the inquiry, including contesting the legality of the tribunal appointed to probe her suitability to continue in office after she openly accused the head of the Judiciary of employing double standards.

The Constitution provides that a judge may be removed from office for inability to perform the functions of their office, due to mental or physical incapacity, or gross incompetence, or gross misconduct, but only after a complex process that starts with the Judicial Service Commission recommending that the President sets up a tribunal, which has to be high powered legally and chaired by a retired judge, and then that tribunal recommending removal from the bench.- state media

Our infrastructure is in bad state. Citizens are spending more than 12hrs without electricity.

Democracy space is shrinking. MPs like Hon @JobSikhala1 have spent 246dys in pre-trial incarceration on trumped up charges. Our members are being banned to conduct private meetings.

Guardiola Speaks On Victory Over Gunners

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has played down any talk of retaining the Premier League championship despite moving to the top of the table following their 3-1 win over Arsenal on Wednesday.

City were not at their best before the break as Bukayo Saka’s penalty cancelled out Kevin de Bruyne’s opener.

But the team produced a commanding second-half display with Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland both on target to record an 11th successive league win over the Gunners and leapfrog them on goal difference.

Speaking after the match, Guardiola said the race is still wide open and there’s a long way to run.

He said: “There are still many games to play, the Champions League is coming the Europa League is coming. Many, many difficulties for everyone.

“But what is important is that we could have come here a few weeks ago maybe about eight or nine points behind. Losing here it would have been almost over.

Pep added: “But now because of the fact they dropped points, we came here for the chance to be close, we won the game, we are there.

Mavaza: It’s Dangerous To Vote For Chamisa Nyika

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | In his campaign message, Nelson Chamisa of the CCC boasted that he has the capability of calling the whitened back in Zimbabwe within hours of him being elected the President of Zimbabwe. Chamisa made it appear as if bringing back the whites to Zimbabwe will be a political achievement. He swore by his gods that it only needs his party in power and Zimbabwe will be Rhodesia again. Such idiocy was not only disgusting but the cheers he received from his followers were disheartening.

Dr Masimba Mavaza

Chamisa and his party have made serious plans to destroy Zimbabwe brick by brick and give it to the former colonisers. To him and his party that will be a great achievement and he swore to have that done as soon as he wins the 2023 elections.

His party the CCC has made recolonisation to sound easy and as a way of joking. Phrases used in their campaign rhetoric are nauseating. Phrases like “ that guy who was selling Zimbabwe did he get a buyer yet? He should come and get it for free” these and some phrases are slowly thrown into people’s ears so that they will slowly get used to the grand plan of reversing the gains and the freedom of Zimbabwe.

Freedom is the quality or state of being free, such as: the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action. liberation from slavery or from the power of another. boldness of conception or execution. a political right. It is having the ability to act or change without constraint or to possess the power and resources to fulfill one’s purposes unhindered. In short, freedom is the ability to make decisions for ourselves. We’re free to think and speak our minds, to choose our own path in life, and to associate with anyone we want. This allows us to be individual and create our own unique life. That’s why freedom is such a basic human right – without it, we couldn’t truly be ourselves. And that would be a pretty bleak world indeed. Zimbabweans were denied freedom for a hundred years it took blood and sweat for us to enjoy the freedom. It is that blood and that sweat which CCC wants to ignore to disregard to throw away if they are voted into power. They have already forgotten.

Contents show
Freedom is one of the most important things in the world. It makes us human and is something we should all value as human beings and as Zimbabweans. You have a natural basic right to be who you want. Freedom is important for a long, happy life and allows you to make your own choices.
Freedom gives you the right to free expression. You have a right to be free from bondage and no one should be allowed to take your freedom for granted.
Freedom is the ability to act intuitively, or in other words, to run your country without external compulsion. People are free when they can develop in the way that’s best for them but for an aspiring leader to say he will use his freedom curtail your freedom is satanic.Freedom is necessary in order to trust. Trust is a key element of leadership and life in general.
CCC has refused to put its cards on the table so that Zimbabweans will be free to choose after fully and freely comparing all alternatives.
One need his country’s trust if he wants them to believe in him as a leader and, more importantly if he wants them to strive toward the goals and aims set for the country as a whole. You can best build your electorate’s trust by giving them freedom to see what you are representing. Freedom allows us to see we’re we are going and make mistakes so we can learn and grow from our experiences.
We’re free to make our own choices and go our own way in life. It’s this freedom to choose that makes us who we’re today.
Each human being has a uniquely personal path, and it’s our personal responsibility to follow it. It’s up to you to decide what you want to do, what you want to be, where you want to go, and how you want to live your life.
So without a constitution and without a manifesto CCC is taking Zimbabweans for fools and trying to kill them in. Sack like a cat.
The most important thing is that YOU make these decisions yourself; they shouldn’t be made by someone else! You have the freedom of choice not to wait for whitened to pour into your country in order for you to have a constitution to govern yourself.
You have the freedom of choice because we all have different interests and desires; therefore, no one can tell another person what to do with their life or how to live it! In order for society as a whole to not only survive but thrive, it needs a diversity of views and opinions on issues such as religion, politics, economics, so each party must articulate these things in their manifesto and constitution.
Freedom is important for our happiness because it allows us to make choices that make us happy and gives us the opportunity to make mistakes and learn from them. So our happiness depends on how we feel about the choices we’ve made and continue to make in life. Those choices must be clearly put to us in the form of a constitution or and a manifesto.
Freedom allows people to make choices that they’re proud of. This makes them happier because they know that they’ve earned their happiness through their own free will. For some people the most important thing will be economic freedom, for others, free speech will matter more all this should be clearly put in a constitution of what you are voting for.
Everyone wants to be proud of the choices they’ve made in life. It’s an encouraging feeling when you realize that you’re exactly where you want to be in life because of the choices you made for yourself along the way.The Things That Give a Sense of Self Worth and Freedom are seen in the constitution of what you intend to vote for. The country you want to see your children live in, the tomorrow you wish for yourself all these things give you a sense of self-worth and pride because you achieved them with your own hands.
These feelings cannot be reproduced if you live a controlled lifestyle where almost everything is kept as a secret from you and dictated by others. This leaves no room for personal growth or choices, which can lead to dissatisfaction because there will always be something missing in life if you never had the chance to create it yourself.

Without mistakes, we’d never learn from our mistakes and therefore do nothing to correct them. True freedom is transparency. Y
The bottom line is that freedom helps make us happier because it allows us to make choices we can see and we can identify with and that make us happy.
In the social or collective sense, freedom means that a person is free to participate in building and shaping his or her own country by choosing the path which is good for him. This can include political, religious, professional, artistic, and all other kinds of groups, organizations, and institutions if any of these is not transparent in what they want you to choose then run away from them very fast.
From a purely personal perspective, there are a number of freedoms that we often take for granted. You have the freedom to choose where you live, what you eat, and who your friends are. You also have the freedom to be yourself and express yourself as you see fit.
This kind of social freedom helps people feel authentic in their own lives.Freedom Is An Integrity Issue As the saying goes, “freedom isn’t free.”Nowhere is this more evident than in the Zimbabwean story. Each of us has a deep desire to be who or what he or she uniquely is and we need to see where we are going. Being asked to vote for a party with no constitution no direction is like a mad man chasing wind. Choosing what we know and see makes us real Zimbabweans. This is our birthright and should never be compromised by others – or ourselves or anyone urging us to vote blindly.
It’s one thing to have a right to freedom; it’s quite another to realize that freedom comes with responsibility: the responsibility to know and honor our own individuality without regard to what other people say or do.
This pursuit of freedom begins at home, where we’re taught how to think about ourselves and others – and how to behave if we want to continue to receive love and acceptance from those closest to us. So at a party level we must have a path to follow and this path is enshrined in our constitution. Without a constitution we are running blind.
The right to liberty is important because it allows us to have power over our own lives and to strive for a better life. It’s one of the basic rights that we all deserve as human beings, regardless of where we live or what our circumstances are.
Political freedom is a basic constitutional right.
Zimbabwe was founded on the idea of individual freedom and freedom of expression and freedom to vote one man one vote came with ZANU pF.
People like Robert Mugabe, Leopold Takawira Tongogara Emmerson Mnangagwa ZIMBABWE’s president and many more others were all champions of freedom and civil rights who worked tirelessly to ensure that more people in Zimbabwe had access to freedom and civil liberties and must know what they are getting themselves into.
The right to know what you are voting for and why you are voting for it are very important parts of any democracy and essential to any democratic society.
Freedom is an essential part of Zimbabwe’s identity as a nation. Throughout history, ZANU PF and the citizens Zimbabwe and of other nations with a similar belief in freedom have fought for this fundamental right. It is formally enshrined in the Constitutions. So what will you be voting for if you are voting for a headless chicken.

True freedom is the right to do what you want with your life, liberty, and property. However, most we will have no idea how to use our freedoms in a way that works for us if we choose a constitutional less party.
Instead, we sometimes allow ourselves to be controlled by people who are not interested in helping us grow as a country.
In short, freedom is important to all of us, as individuals, as societies, and as nations.
* As individuals, you have the freedom to choose your own friends and pursue your own educational goals.
* As a society, we have the freedom to enact laws that protect our personal rights and freedoms.
* As a nation, we enjoy the freedom of an independent government that allows us to make our own foreign policy decisions.

Manchester City Return To EPL Summit

Tsvangirai Son Rubbishes Zanu PF

By- The late former MDC founder, Morgan Tsvangirai’s son, has said that he would not associate himself with Zanu PF at any point in his life.

The Glen View South legislator Vincent Tsvangirai (MDC-T) says he was not a Zanu-PF member and would never join the ruling party as it would betray his father.

His uncle Collins was at the weekend paraded as a Zanu-PF returnee by the ruling party while reports suggested Vincent was about to beat the same path.
“Honestly, it’s all rumours; I don’t know where it is coming from. In Parliament, I sit on opposition benches. I am not Zanu-PF. Secondly, I wouldn’t have gone to Parliament as (a Zanu-PF) MP because I would have been recalled by my party, MDC-T,” Vincent said.
“Nothing attracts me to Zanu-PF. My father battled that party for a very long time. I don’t know what will attract me to Zanu-PF, even in principle. On Tuesday, it was my father’s memorial, so to go to Zanu-PF on the eve of myfather’s memorial would be very unbelievable. I would never do that,” Vincent said.
Meanwhile, Former MDC Member of Parliament and leader of #Returnees4ED Tongai Matutu claimed that his organisation had welcomed 1 000 former opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party members who defected to Zanu-PF.
“The #Reaturnees4ED mobilisation agenda goes on. Today we took in more than 1000 returnees coming from the CCC at Bondolfi Teachers College. This year ED will get more than six million returnee votes,” Matutu said. Newsday

West Properties Delivers Sweet News

By A Correspondent- Following the successful eviction of the previous tenant, West Properties is set to embark on three major projects all of which will be ‘must visit’ destinations for locals, tourists and international players.

In an announcement, West Properties CEO Kenneth Sharpe revealed that work on the three projects is set to commence in the next quarter.

Said Sharpe in a statement:

PRESS STATEMENT BY WEST PROP CEO MR KENNETH SHARPE ON EXCITING DEVELOPMENTS COMING THIS YEAR

I am very excited to share with you today the several BIG announcements happening at West Property Zimbabwe over the next few weeks, and in particular three big milestones mentioned below.

The first is the Hills Golf Estate and branded luxury residential and hotel development at Warren Hills.

We managed last week to successfully achieve the eviction of the previous tenant under court case HC 6212/20 and court order number HH 0414385.

We now await City of Harare to accede to the recommendation to allow the development to proceed.

This paves way for our team from South Africa led by globally respected golf course designer Peter Matkovich to come to Harare in the next quarter and commence work on site.

The project upgrade for the new design will take 22 months to complete the brand new PGA Championship standard golf course that will have some exciting new features. A first for Zimbabwe.

The infrastructure and servicing will commence within the next six months and run in conjunction with the golf course upgrade.

This is a US$280 million project which in our view is a big confidence affirmation on Zimbabwe as an investment destination.

This would be the first premium branded luxury residences attached to a five-star hotel in sub-Saharan Africa.

These developments are part of our vision and mission at West Property Zimbabwe to bring world class ‘Dubai type’ lifestyle communities to Zimbabwe where both residents and visitors can live, work, shop and play in a safe and secure gated development.

For the play element, we intend not just limiting our offering to the golf players but also to bring a top-notch world-class swimming and tennis academies, as well as sports training and recreational facilities at a level not seen before in the country.

The development will be a ‘must visit’ destination for locals, tourists and international players.

We have also included in the development plan a section for retirement and elderly care for the older population to enjoy the outdoors in a safe and green environment.

We are certain that the total open areas and green spaces is at 80 percent which must be a record locally and internationally.

Secondly on the cards for finalizing in 2023 is the two massive projects being the Mall of Zimbabwe and Pomona City phase 2 which we have made significant developments on in the last few months and accordingly we will be making announcements soon.

Thirdly, we at West Property Zimbabwe have been busy working over the past months on a new initiative at our company that will enable the public to benefit from our continued success.

Many have seen the speed at which we have created Millennium Heights Estate, a development of 1000 apartments where we have opened Block 1&2.

We have already sold out 85 percent on block 3 and commencing sales for block 4 next month.

We have achieved compliance for phase 1A Pomona City allowing stand owners to commence construction of their homes.

The servicing of phase B&C is progressing according to schedule with stands almost 70 percent sold out.

Our success is your success and as such we believe in empowering individuals to grow in our organization of a high performance winning culture.

We remain focused on our corporate strategy of putting “1 billion bricks in the ground by 2050”.

It is with this in mind that we will make an announcement for a very special investment offering on a limited time basis during the first week of March this year.

Guardiola Cynical Despite Convincing Win

“This league will be decided in the last eight or 10 games. There are 15 to go. Many games and tiring for the players.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Experts Say Formula Milk Not Ideal For Children’s Health

GENEVA, 8th February 2023 – The formula milk industry’s marketing tactics are exploitative and urgent clampdowns are needed to tackle misleading claims and political interference, according to a new three-paper series published in The Lancet today. Industry influence – which includes lobbying against vital breastfeeding support measures – seriously jeopardizes the health and rights of women and children, the papers show.

“This new research highlights the vast economic and political power of the big formula milk companies, as well as serious public policy failures that prevent millions of women from breastfeeding their children,” said Professor Nigel Rollins, Scientist at WHO and author of a paper on formula milk marketing. “Actions are needed across different areas of society to better support mothers to breastfeed for as long as they want, alongside efforts to tackle exploitative formula milk marketing once and for all.”

Breastfeeding provides immense and irreplaceable benefits to babies and young children. It helps children survive and develop to their full potential, providing vast nutritional benefits, reducing infection risks and lowering rates of obesity and chronic diseases in later life. Yet, globally, only around 1 in 2 newborns are put to the breast within the first hour of life while fewer than half of infants under 6 months are exclusively breastfed, as per WHO recommendations.

Given the significant contributions of breastfeeding to people’s health, the Lancet series recommends much greater support for breastfeeding within healthcare and social protection systems – including guaranteeing sufficient paid maternity leave. Currently, around 650 million women lack adequate maternity protections, the papers note. Misleading marketing claims and strategic lobbying from the dairy and formula milk industries further add to the challenges parents face, by increasing anxiety around breastfeeding and infant care.

An exploitative marketing playbook

Triggered by The Baby Killer investigative report into Nestle’s marketing of formula milk in low and middle-income countries in the 1970s, the World Health Assembly developed the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes (the Code) in 1981 and several subsequent resolutions. However, intensive marketing of infant formula continues largely unabated, with sales from these products now approaching US$ 55 billion a year.

The first paper in the Lancet series documents how misleading marketing claims directly exploit parental anxieties around normal infant behaviours, suggesting that commercial milk products alleviate fussiness or crying, for instance, that they help with colic, or prolong night-time sleep. The authors stress that, when mothers are appropriately supported, such parental concerns can be managed successfully with exclusive breastfeeding.

“The formula milk industry uses poor science to suggest, with little supporting evidence, that their products are solutions to common infant health and developmental challenges,” says Professor Linda Richter from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. “This marketing technique clearly violates the 1981 Code, which says labels should not idealise the use of formula to sell more product.”

The series explains how formula milk marketing exploits the lack of support for breastfeeding by governments and society, while misusing gender politics to sell its products. This includes framing breastfeeding advocacy as a moralistic judgment, while presenting milk formula as a convenient and empowering solution for working mothers.

The series further draws attention to the power of the milk formula industry to influence national political decisions and interfere with international regulatory processes. In particular, the dairy and formula milk industries have established a network of unaccountable trade associations and front groups that lobby against policy measures to protect breastfeeding or control the quality of infant formula.

Society-wide changes needed

In addition to ending exploitative marketing tactics and industry influence, broader actions across workplaces, healthcare, governments, and communities are needed to effectively support women who want to breastfeed so that it becomes a collective societal responsibility, the authors state, rather than placing the onus on women.

In particular, the authors highlight the need to ensure women have adequate maternity protections assured by law, including paid maternity leave that aligns, at minimum, with the WHO-recommended duration of six months for exclusive breastfeeding. Maternity protections should further be extended to the millions of women working in the informal sector who are currently excluded from these benefits, the papers note.

Beyond parental leave, the authors call for formal recognition of the contribution of women’s unpaid care work to national development. Globally, women are estimated to perform three-quarters of all unpaid family care work – more than three times that of men. By some accounts, this contributes to around a third of a country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“Given the immense benefits of breastfeeding to their families and national development, women who wish to breastfeed need to be much better supported so that they can meet their breastfeeding goals,” said Professor Rafael Pérez-Escamilla from the Yale School of Public Health. “A large expansion in health professional training on breastfeeding, as well as statutory paid maternity leave and other protections are vital.”

Expanding training for health workers on breastfeeding is critical, the papers state, so that they can offer skilled counselling to parents before and after birth.

Democracy space is shrinking. MPs like Hon @JobSikhala1 have spent 246dys in pre-trial incarceration on trumped up charges. Our members are being banned to conduct private meetings.

Violence against the citizens has become the order of the day.

We need new and transformative leaders. We’ll solve these challenges & usher in a New Great Zimbabwe.

RegisterToVoteCCC to end this crisis.

This is the year!!!!

Remembering An Icon And Honouring A Legacy

By Gift Ostallos Siziba

On this day 5 years ago we gathered at Freedom Square to send off the founding father of post independence democratic struggle, national hero and then President of the Alternative Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai. It is without doubt that he had ran his race and imprinted his name in the annals of our motherland’s history.

As the nation and indeed all democrats across the world remember this giant of history, it is unmistakable that his passing wish and enduring ask was for a new generation to take the unfinished business of the struggle for democracy to the next level.

While we mourned his passing on, our tears of despair became the water drops to grow and strengthen our hope in the emergence of a new, dynamic, grounded and focused leadership in the person of Advocate Nelson Chamisa His ascendence to the top echelons of the democratic alternative was not a fluke or chance.

It represented the confluence of historical forces of vision, mandate, mass movement and charisma. Advocate Chamisa had learnt at the feet of the doyen of democracy.

He had fed of his wisdom and unquestionably represented the best foot forward for the democratic alternative. While a lot has happened since that day, none of it has erased in our hearts and mind the lessons, task and responsibility bestowed upon us to finish what was started in September 1999.

With our Change Champion in Chief at the steering wheel, in this year of our lord 2023 we shall complete the business of change which Dr. Tsvangirai left squarely in our hands.

Rest easy Pakuru
