Morocco Top Group F After Stunning Victory Over Canada

Morocco advanced to the last 16 of the World Cup after closing out a 2-1 win over Canada at the Al Thumama Stadium to finish top of Group F.

Canada, who had already been eliminated, fell behind early on thanks to a major error by goalkeeper Milan Borjan to gift Hakim Ziyech the opener.

Youssef En-Nesyri thumped past Borjan to extend their first-half advantage, but Morocco allowed Canada to stay in it when Nayef Aguerd deflected in an own goal before the break.

The Atlas Lions are into the knockout stages for the first time in 36 years, and now face a wait to find out their last-16 opponents, who will be the Group E runners-up.

Morocco needed a win or a draw to reach the last 16, while Canada had already been knocked out following losses to Belgium and Croatia.

Alphonso Davies became the first Canadian to score a goal at a men’s World Cup in that second clash, with the 2026 tournament co-hosts hoping to make more history and pick up the first World Cup points in their history with their final match in Qatar.

Their afternoon got off to a catastrophic start when Steven Vitoria mis-hit a backpass and goalkeeper Borjan rushed out of the area.

He initially took possession but then gifted the Atlas Lions the opener when he failed to clear and rolled the ball to Ziyech, who calmly chipped Borjan for the fourth-minute opener.

Canada nearly got on the scoresheet when Cyle Larin took control of the ball inside their half and drove down the right before sending a cross to the back post, but it was a touch too heavy for a sliding Tajon Buchanan to push past Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

Morocco soon extended their lead when Achraf Hakimi fed En-Nesyri, who broke down the right before thumping a low effort past Borjan at the near post, becoming the first Moroccan to score in two different World Cups.- stv

The Woman With A Dead Body In The House Witchcraft Or Mental Health?

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | Last week in Chitungwiza Zengeza 3 the Police recovered a decomposing body from ahome. Again a man who was physically and visibly traumatised was retrieved from the ceiling of the house. The man identified only as Grant was taken away in handcuffs by police as his father’s decomposed body was wheeled to a Nyaradzo minibus.
The dead man is said to have been last seen by neighbours over 12 years ago died in his Zengeza home in Harare and his wife did not inform police.
The woman, identified only as gogo Mahlahla, was taken by the police. When investigators arrived at the house, they heard movements in the ceiling and when they went up, they found an emaciated 39-year-old man identified only as Grant, who is the couple’s son.

Speaking to reporters, Mahlahla painted a picture of a dysfunctional family as she claimed a secret battle with evil spirits.
She said married her husband in 1992 and he suffered a stroke shortly after, forcing him to use a wheelchair.
“I joined church after discovering that evil spirits were haunting my family,” she told H-Metro. “My husband refused to accompany me to church to receive prophecies about our family.”
Mahlahla claimed that her son who was hauled from the ceiling was a “possessed man.”
“They told me in church that he has evil spirits. He has destroyed everything in the house – geyser, radio and TV,” Mahlahla claimed.
The case exposes the challenges Zimbabwe has with stereotype.
The people quickly declared that gogo Mahlahla was a witch and that Grant was a tokolosh being used by gogo. Our people do lack compassion and have become devils chanting Vitriol on the weak and sick.
People must learn to defer judgement until they have all the facts avoiding abounding generalised conclusions. We must not jump to conclusions in cases we are not privy to.
People must put themselves in the shoes of their victims.
If we all put ourselves in the shoes of this Gogo Mahlahla. She faced more than ava rage life in her life She had to endure a prolonged sickness of her husband without support. It is draining to care for a sick relative who is incontinent.
Zimbabwe has no formal respite service where struggling families can be assisted.
While we do have strong support from family members, sometimes if not always we are let down by those we expect to lift us.
Gogo Mahlahla from Zengeza 3 had a continuous care of her husband without respite, this has led to mental breakdown leading to mental health problems paranoia and insanity.

In this particular case this is an old woman who never got immediate support. There are no structures of respite in Zimbabwe. The traditional structures failed her. She is from Gwanda and planted in Chitungwiza. Any family members are in Gwanda and the Children are abroad doing nothing about their parents back home. This situation is likely to lead one to mental breakdown and this took a heavy toll on her mental and physical health.
The menacing crowds lacked compassion.
Compassion means put yourself in your victim’s shoe. Gogo Mahlahla is a victim of our broken society.
This reminds me of a sad story which was heard before JusticeGarainesu Mawodza in Gweru A young girl of 13 was impregnated by her uncle. While she was still pregnant her mother dies. She was subjected to abuse by her other uncle and aunties. She had no support at all. She gave birth at the age of 13.
She then developed mental health issue she then threw the baby in a river. She was arrested and spent a year in custody without trial.
When she was finally tried and convicted the judge in sentencing her asked her to stand up. He told her that he the judge, will walk out when he is completely out of the courtroom the accused would have finished her sentence. The judge was making a statement that human life is sanctity and it must not be trivialised. The small girl was a victim of self righteous evil family.
We have to be a compassionate nation. We must live without stereotypes. We must understand mental health issues.
It is clear that in Zimbabwe old people are not protected. Once you get old you are declared a witch.
A ninety five year old woman would wonder from Home. She developed dementia which made her move out of the house and get lost. Each time she would wonder away and end up in people’s houses who will accuse her of being a witch. She was demented but accused of witchcraft simply because we do not understand old age and we hate the old.
The old the mental health sufferers are victimised.
It is said that the civilisation of a nation is measured by the way it treats those who are vulnerable not those who are strong.
If we have no compassion on mental health people we are not civilised.
The state is measured by the way it treats the minority not the majority. The way you treat the mentally incapacitated sick and poor reflects your civilisation.
The country needs to be re-educated on witchcraft.
We now social media YouTube TV stations varying programmes of accusing people of witchcraft.
In Domboshava a sick and mentally derailed man was paraded on camera accused of having a snake which he sleeps with. The mindset of our people is inherently cultured into witchcraft that many families have been broken.
People should be responsible and be ca
Compassionate.
Go Mahlahla of ZENGEZA 3 must be given help. She is sick and needs help. It is not right to parade her as a witch. We are better than that.
We should be civilised and drop this witchcraft tag on the vulnerable.
Old people get lost because they suffer from dementia. When they wonder into People’s yards they are not witches.
Our chiefs needs training on dementia and mental health. Many people have been accused and fined for a mere sickness.
The Chitungwiza saga exposes us as a people. We need to raise awareness in our people about mental health and dementia.

Mugabe Aide’s Son Loses Property To Girlfriend

By-The son of the late Vice-President John Landa Nkomo’s Sandlasami was reportedly robbed of household property by his ex-girlfriend Tinevimbo Hove.

Tinevimbo reportedly broke into Sandlasami’s home in Paddonhurst suburb in Bulawayo and stole various goods as punishment for abandoning her.

State media reported sources as saying that Tinevimbo failed to stomach the rejection by Sandlasami who she had been staying with in Paddonhurst and thought of a way to punish him. Said the source:
At around 3 PM on the day in question, she teamed up with her friend Nyari Makoni and went to Sandlasami’s place.
Upon arrival, they broke into the house and took a 42-inch TV, knives, plates, pots, microwave oven, curtains, and groceries.
They ransacked the house and left things upside down.
Tinevimbo allegedly took Sandlasami’s cellphone and threw it into a bucket full of water.
After the burglary, Nyari reportedly sent Sandlasami a WhatsApp message threatening him.
When contacted for comment by the publication, Tinevimbo said she did not steal Sandlasami’s property but took the property that they bought together. She said:
I had taken wine and then I went to confront Sandlasami’s girlfriend, unfortunately, she was not there and we broke into the house and took the property that we bought together.
It’s not like we stole but it was our property since I contributed to buying it.
Sandlasami refused to comment saying, “I do not have a comment and I don’t think it’s worth any attention.”

Ramaphosa Snubs Corruption Grilling Meeting

By-The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa has snubbed his African National Congress’ highest decision-making body, meeting to discuss his fate.

ANC’s National Executive Committee gathered on Friday to decide whether Ramaphosa should stay on after an inquiry found evidence of misconduct over cash hidden at his farm.

Ramaphosa did not attend the Friday meeting without reason.

His future has been in doubt since publication on Wednesday of a report by a panel of experts investigating the alleged theft of millions of dollars stuffed into furniture in the multi-millionaire leader’s Phala Phala game farm in 2020.

Ramaphosa has denied any wrongdoing and has not been charged with any crime. The president has said the money was much less than the $4 million to $8 million reported, and that it was the proceeds of game sales at the farm.

The media has dubbed the affair “Farmgate”.

For the investigators, the theft, which only came to light in June, has raised questions about how Ramaphosa acquired the money, why he wasn’t keeping it in a bank and whether or not it had been declared to authorities.

Ramaphosa put a pledge to fight endemic graft at the heart of his successful drive to oust predecessor Jacob Zuma in 2018.

The more than 80 officials of the ANC’s decision-making National Executive Committee (NEC) were meeting at a conference venue in the south of Johannesburg. A Reuters correspondent saw Deputy President David Mabuza and former president Thabo Mbeki arrive at the venue along with other NEC members ahead of the deliberations which were expected to take hours.

The Farmgate scandal has damaged South Africa’s image as a relatively stable investment destination and gateway to the continent. The country was only just recovering from several corruption scandals linked to Zuma, which authorities are now investigating. Zuma denies wrongdoing.

ANC CLOSES RANKS

Senior figures who analysts consider close Ramaphosa allies closed ranks around the president on Friday.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana told Reuters in an interview he thought Ramaphosa should continue with his job, doing whatever he could to defend himself against the panel report including possible legal action.

He sought to reassure financial markets that no change to the fiscal framework was imminent and that he would be willing to stay as finance minister even if Ramaphosa were to resign.

ANC Chairman Gwede Mantashe, in an interview with local television station Newzroom Afrika, denied Ramaphosa was considering resigning and said the president was giving space for the report to be interrogated and tested.

“My own view is that it would be premature for the president to just step down without a due process,” said Mantashe, who serves as energy and mines minister in Ramaphosa’s cabinet.

South African rand and government bonds rebounded on Friday, after Thursday’s panic-selling on speculation in local media that Ramaphosa was considering leaving.

Two other ministers in Ramaphosa’s cabinet, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Zuma’s ex-wife who narrowly lost the ANC’s 2017 leadership contest to Ramaphosa, and Tourism Minister Lindiwe Sisulu, who has campaigned to be elected ANC leader at the party conference this month, have called on the president to step down.

If Ramaphosa survives Friday’s NEC meeting, which seems likely given the strength of his support, he could still face impeachment in a drawn-out process. But he is likely to survive even that action given the ANC’s dominance of parliament.

Cameroon Face Daunting Task Against Mighty Brazil

A Brazil side already guaranteed to reach the last 16 prepare to do battle with Cameroon in their final World Cup 2022 Group G meeting at the Lusail Iconic Stadium on Friday.

Tite’s side have already prevailed against Switzerland and Serbia to book their place in the knockout rounds, and they will confirm a first-placed finish if they avoid defeat here.

On the other hand, Cameroon find themselves third in the group – two points behind second-placed Switzerland – so even a shock win may not be enough for them to advance.

Cameroon and Brazil have been familiar foes down the years, with the two sides meeting on six previous occasions, and the South American giants have unsurprisingly won five of those contests.

The Selecao first met the Indomitable Lions in the group stage of the 1994 World Cup, prevailing 3-0 with Romario, Marcio Santos and Bebeto on the scoresheet, and now-Cameroon head coach Rigobert Song was sent off in the second half.

A 2-0 friendly win in 1996 preceded an identical success in the 2001 Confederations Cup for Brazil, but the Selecao were stunned by the Africans in the 2003 Confederations Cup, as Samuel Eto’o’s goal gave Cameroon a 1-0 group win en route to the final, although that tournament was marred by the death of former Manchester City man Marc-Vivien Foe during Cameroon’s semi-final win over Colombia.

The two sides would not meet again for 11 years following that match, as Neymar scored twice in a 4-1 Brazil win during the 2014 World Cup group stage, and the most recent showdown saw the Selecao prevail 1-0 in a November 2018 friendly thanks to a winner from Richarlison.

Ramaphosa Survives Chop

By-South Africa’s governing party, the African National Congress’s highest decision-making body, has saved President Cyril Ramaphosa from losing the country’s top job.

WHO highlights high cost of physical inactivity in first-ever global report
19 October 2022 News release Geneva Reading time: 3 min (815 words)
Almost 500 million people will develop heart disease, obesity, diabetes or other noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) attributable to physical inactivity, between 2020 and 2030, costing US$ 27 billion annually, if governments don’t take urgent action to encourage more physical activity among their populations.

The Global status report on physical activity 2022, published today by the World Health Organization, measures the extent to which governments are implementing recommendations to increase physical activity across all ages and abilities.

Data from 194 countries show that overall, progress is slow and that countries need to accelerate the development and implementation of policies to increase levels of physical activity and thereby prevent disease and reduce burden on already overwhelmed health care systems.

Less than 50% of countries have a national physical activity policy, of which less than 40% are operational
Only 30% of countries have national physical activity guidelines for all age groups
While nearly all countries report a system for monitoring physical activity in adults, 75% of countries monitor physical activity among adolescents, and less than 30% monitor physical activity in children under 5 years
In policy areas that could encourage active and sustainable transport, only just over 40% of countries have road design standards that make walking and cycling safer.
“We need more countries to scale up implementation of policies to support people to be more active through walking, cycling, sport, and other physical activity. The benefits are huge, not only for the physical and mental health of individuals, but also for societies, environments, and economies…” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, “We hope countries and partners will use this report to build more active, healthier, and fairer societies for all.”

The economic burden of physical inactivity is significant and the cost of treating new cases of preventable non-communicable diseases (NCDs) will reach nearly US$ 300 billion by 2030, around US$ 27 billion annually.

Whilst national policies to tackle NCDs and physical inactivity have increased in recent years, currently 28% of policies are reported to be not funded or implemented. Considered a “best buy” for motivating populations to combat NCDs, the report showed that only just over 50% of countries ran a national communications campaign, or organised mass participation physical activity events in the last two years. The COVID-19 pandemic has not only stalled these initiatives, but it also affected other policy implementation which has widened inequities in access to and, opportunities for, engaging in physical activity for many communities.

To help countries increase physical activity, WHO’s Global action plan on physical activity 2018-2030 (GAPPA) sets out 20 policy recommendations – including policies to create safer roads to encourage more active transport, provide more programmes and opportunities for physical activity in key settings, such as childcare, schools, primary health care and the workplace. Today’s Global Status report assesses country progress against those recommendations, and shows that much more needs to be done. One critical finding in the Global status report on physical activity is the existence of significant gaps in global data to track progress on important policy actions – such as provision of public open space, provision of walking and cycling infrastructure, provision of sport and physical education in schools. The report also calls for weaknesses in some existing data to also be addressed.

“We are missing globally approved indicators to measure access to parks, cycle lanes, foot paths – even though we know that data do exist in some countries. Consequently, we cannot report or track the global provision of infrastructure that will facilitate increases in physical activity, “said Fiona Bull, Head of WHO Physical Activity Unit. “It can be a vicious circle, no indicator and no data leads to no tracking and no accountability, and then too often, to no policy and no investment. What gets measured gets done, and we have some way to go to comprehensively and robustly track national actions on physical activity.”

The report calls for countries to prioritize physical activity as key to improving health and tackling NCDs, integrate physical activity into all relevant policies, and develop tools, guidance and training to improve implementation.

“It is good for public health and makes economic sense to promote more physical activity for everyone,” said Dr Ruediger Krech, Director Department of Health Promotion, WHO. “We need to facilitate inclusive programmes for physical activity for all and ensure people have easier access to them. This report issues a clear call to all countries for stronger and accelerated action by all relevant stakeholders working better together to achieve the global target of a 15% reduction in the prevalence of physical inactivity by 2030.”

Data for the report are drawn from the WHO Noncommunicable Disease Country Capacity Survey (2019 and 2022) and the WHO Global status report on road safety (2018).

Restoring the dignity of survivors of gender based violence.

For the past decades we have been stripped off our dignity as a people- victims of gender based violence have also not been spared.

As CCC we have made a commitment to ensure that we restore the dignity of all victims of gender based violence.

A government must show care, those who govern must govern with consent.

We need a government of the people, for the people by the people.

Say no to gender based violence!

Mnangagwa Cash Not Droolworthy- President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri| CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has warned party MPs to stop drooling over Zanu PF rotten carrots.

Zanu PF has dangled USD 40 000 cash to Members of Parliament and the move is triggering anxious moments in the CCC camp.

“Our objective is to transform citizens’ lives. We will not be swayed by side shows. Our MPs have an obligation to serve the citizens. They ( Zanu PF bigwigs) must use the money to revive the health system,” President Chamisa said during an online presentation on Wednesday.

President Chamisa has also said tired Zanu PF politicians cannot resolve the country’s political melee.

According to President Chamisa, Zanu PF apparatchiks are sleeping on duty.

“WRONG LEADERS USUALLY HAVE WRONG PRIORITIES..The role of a government is to address citizens’ most urgent and pertinent needs.

When this is abandoned, such a government merits replacement.Any government that prioritizes ‘chefs’ over citizens is not fit for purpose. #CitizensFirst

SLEEPING ON THE JOB …Give them pillows!
Everything is sleeping in Zimbabwe
Parliament is sleeping
Church is sleeping
Government is sleeping
Leadership is sleeping.
Youth is sleeping.

Wake up Zimbabwe Arise from the dead! And Christ will shine on you,” said President Chamisa in a statement on Tuesday.

BREAKING: Tatelicious Deported From SA

By Showbiz Reporter | LGBT activist Tatelicious Karigambe has been issued with a deportation order after landing at OR Tambo Airport for her shows on Wednesday night, her promoter announces.

Exact reasons for denial of entry were not clear at the time of writing amid suggestions that they centre around the fact that she does not have a work permit. The sociallite was due to perform with rapper Stunner at the weekend.

In a video address seen by ZimEye, her promotions team said “we were supposed to host events for Queen Tatelicious in Johannesburg and in Capetown, but we had to cancel those events, all of them. Queen arrived Wednesday at 6.30pm…[but]] there emerged a complication with immigration who said she needs a visa.

“Since she has a Swedish passport, she doesnt need a visa so immigration blocked her rfom coming out we rushed around and were told by immigration that she is here but has to go back as she requires a visa.”

The promotions team said even her lawyers were blocked from entering the airport to attend to her legal emergency.

“At one time we thought to get other lawyers thinking that all this failure is because the current ones are weak, but all was to no avail.”

The immigration officers said “we want to know where is she performing and what was the reason of her visit here,” the promotion’s agent hinted.

She was on Friday still held up at OR Tambo but the frightening thing is that the officers are not disclosing her condition, if she is okay and why are they still holding her at the airport instead of them deporting her back to Sweden, said the events management team. They continued by pleading for public support, saying:

“If anyone can assist us with access at the airport, or lawyers for human rights to enter inside and tell us what exactly is happening. ” – ZimEye

Shun Mnangagwa “Stinking” Cash, Bishop Magaya Warns CCC MPs

Tinashe Sambiri|Outspoken cleric Bishop Ancelimo Magaya has challenged CCC MPs to shun the Zanu PF leader Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s “stinking” money.

The hard-hitting clergyman man warned the MPs against selling their souls to the devil.

According to Bishop Magaya, Mnangagwa is using the money to divide the citizens movement.

Below is Bishop Magaya’s statement:

It is over simplicity and being greedy on the part of CCC MPs to justify and be part of money looting spree at a time when citizens are looking for a different crop of leadership. Indeed the love of money has caused division. Saddest.

Is this time to receive money and clothing…. Therefore the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you.(11 Kings 5: 26 – 27). Whilst gifts/loans in themselves are good, know when to receive them.

No To Stomach Politics In August House

Citizens Coalition for Change Namibia condemns stomach politics in the August House.

01 December 2022

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Namibia condemns in absolute terms the greedy gesture exhibited by ministers and members of parliament who prioritized themselves at the expense of the vulnerable masses. Social Democrats in Namibia believe that members of parliament who are representing change champions in the August House should reflect the ideology of the political behemoth. As an alternative government, we commit ourselves to put citizens at the centre of decision-making.

It is quite pathetic for those who purport to fight senseless and bare-faced looting of national resources to be seen dining and wining with ZANU-PF belly politicians who are popular for advancing their self-enrichment goals, shortchanging the unsuspecting masses. Citizens had confidence in their representatives in their legislators but when this looting scandal was unraveled by the investigative journalist Hopewell Chin’ono, citizens are greatly disappointed. Of all the legislators who subscribe to the national democratic revolution, only Hon Markham refused to accept the loot.

Moreover, it is against the norms and values of our democratic movement to accept bribes from the politically inept ZANU-PF. Namibia district resonates with the organic and pragmatic President Advocate Nelson Chamisa who disagreed with the ones who chose to drink from the poisoned chalice. Our party doesn’t buy the politics of self-aggrandizement, change champions should always stand by the people. Civil servants are earning unsalted peanuts, college students are dropping out of institutions of higher learning because of the astronomical tuition fees, and primary and secondary learners are failing to acquire basic education while MPs are looting the national cake.

We anticipated our MPs to reject the anti-people offer which defies the logic of the idea of putting citizens at the centre. Those who represent CCC should demonstrate their capacity to be transparent and accountable to the electorate. The legislators were warned not to accept bribes from ZANU-PF since they represent the ‘New’, corruption and looting is not part of our DNA. We shall continue to shun politics of rhetoric and greedy. Accepting 40k when Hon Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala and Felix Biri are languishing in the hell-hole of Chikurubi Maximum Prison is against our core value of solidarity and transparency. We expect to see ultimate solidarity with the incarcerated human rights defenders and social democrats.

Furthermore, it is an anti-citizen move that should be resisted with equal measure. Instead of clamoring for the equal distribution of national resources, it is perturbing that our MPs have decided to join ZANU-PF looting which is detrimental to the victory of the people’s party in 2023. We encourage change champions to elect leaders who are prepared to serve not to be served. Prioritizing the self is a strange gesture in the national democratic project. Namibia district champions the struggle for freedom, equality, and accountability. Where is the transparency we always preach to the electorate?

In a nutshell, Namibia district anticipates all the MPs to adopt a common position which resonates with the people’s dedication to winning Zimbabwe for a complete change. All who want to continue representing change champions must withdraw their signatures forthwith. We can’t agree with the thieving racket in ZANU-PF. CCC is yellow! We can’t be the same as the devil, let’s distinguish ourselves from the perennial thieves who have an insatiable appetite to chop, chop and chop the national cake palaver finish!

Stop Drooling Over Mnangagwa Rotten Carrots, President Chamisa Warns CCC MPs

“Racist” Matinyarare Says Don’t Take Advice From Whites On Farming

By Simba Chikanza | Do not take advice from whites on food, says Matinyarare.

Where does Rutendo Matinyarare’s video claiming that white people are out to colonise Africa using GMO seed, sit on the fence of facts seeing that the group of white innovators led by govt advisor, Brian Oldrieve are the planet earth’s leading advocates of conservation farming (pfumvudza) which is organic seed farming?

Popular farmer and activist, Benjamin Freeth, MBE, speaking to ZimEye passes the following comments saying:

Rutendo Matinyarare sounds very racist in content and expresion, as he makes noise over what is common practice all over the world, where farmers are regularly being drawn to grow GMO seed. This puts the world under a system where if they want to eat then the farmers in those nations have to grow those kind of seeds. The seed is being controlled all over the place, it’s not only in Africa, it is everywhere.

There is a solidarity among all farmers across the world. To try and turn this into a racism issue is utterly misleading.

One of the things we are doing in Zimbabwe is growing open polinated seed, and giving it out to people so that they do have that ability to feed themselves and keep their seed for next year, and grow it again.

And he is absolutely right on the fact that you can grow food for zero dollars, and thats one of the things we are trying to promote, is people being to grow seed for zero dollars, and using open pollinated varieties, using compost making so that you don’t need fertilisers, using manures, using melt on the surface of the soil, using conservation tillage, you can literally grow your food supply for zero dollars without having to depend on the big companies to be able to feed your family. Obviously on a commercial level, this is difficult, we need to try and work out ways of doing this on a commercial level.

But the whole seed issue and the way that agriculture has gone in recent years, the world, I believe is serious concern.

Ramaphosa’s Presidency Hangs In The Balance

By James Gwati- South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Presidency is hanging in the balance following the damning Wednesday independent panel report that nailed him.

Ramaphosa Thursday attempted to respond to the report but later canceled the national address amid reports that he was seriously considering the next course of action.

Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya told reporters in Cape Town Thursday evening that Ramaphosa was consulting before making any announcement.

News24 reported in the afternoon Thursday that Ramaphosa told his close allies that he was willing to step down.

In the aftermath of a Section 89 panel report, top party leaders have been frantically grappling with what it means for Ramaphosa.
“He said he is ready to leave,” a Cabinet minister said on Thursday morning.
The panel found that Ramaphosa may have violated the Constitution and anti-corruption laws in his Phala Phala dealings.
Ramaphosa is said to have told those closest to him that the report by the panel, led by former chief justice Sandile Ngcobo, was flawed in law, but he is not expected to put up a fight at a looming ANC national executive committee (NEC) meeting on Thursday evening.
Ramaphosa was locked in talks with his advisors and allies at his office in Cape Town on Thursday.
Two top ANC leaders told News24 that Ramaphosa would decide on a course of action before the NEC meeting.

“He will not wait for the NEC to determine his fate,” the source said.
Ramaphosa is under immense pressure following the release of the report by the independent panel, which made damning findings against him in relation to the theft of $580 000 (R10 million) from his game farm, Phala Phala, in Limpopo.
While he was locked in the meetings, Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele briefed the media in Parliament.
Gungubele said Ramaphosa was doing well.
“The president appreciates the situation. But he needs to be informed by many things. You are dealing with a president here who is dealing with matters that happened at his house. It is a unique development. The president has subjected himself to the processes. He is dealing with corruption and he has been leading in that sense.
“It’s not easy to just take a decision. It’s also just not about you. Let’s wait for the president’s informed decision. He has a history of doing and he is quite an intelligent president,” Gungubele said.
According to him, Ramaphosa is expected to make an announcement in due course.
The independent panel, led by Ngcobo and appointed by Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, made damning findings against Ramaphosa in relation to the theft at the farm.
He failed to convince the panel that he had acted in accordance with the law and the Constitution after the burglary and theft, and could face an impeachment investigation by lawmakers.
The four charges include three instances in which Ramaphosa violated the Constitution for continuing to be engaged in paid work outside his duties as a member of Cabinet and for acting inconsistently with his office by asking his head of security, Major General Wally Rhoode, to investigate the matter.
MPs are expected to vote on Tuesday on whether or not to adopt the report.

Sikhala Seeks Jurist’s Recusal

Magistrate Mrs Tafadzwa Miti’s ruling in dismissing Job Sikhala’s bail application on changed circumstances wherein he is accused of inciting public violence in Nyatsime has no bearing on the outcome of the trial, the State has said.
The State led by Mr George Manokore said this in response to Job Sikhala’s application for recusal of the magistrate presiding over the case.

Sikhala is charged with incitement to commit public violence.

In his application seeking recusal of Mrs Miti from presiding over the matter, Sikhala claimed the magistrate had already pronounced herself on the merits of the trial before his hearing.

Sikhala claimed that Mrs Miti has already taken a position on his conduct and concluded that he had incited violence in Nyatsime.

He argued that he will not receive a fair trial before Mrs Miti.

In its response, the State said: “In casu, the applicant feels that the court has shown through its bail ruling that it has already convicted the applicant. However, that was a bail process which has no bearing on the outcome of the trial.

“The applicant is worried that the court held that the accused confirmed that there is now calmness in Nyatsime because the accused is in custody. The accused actually confirmed that and cited that as a change in circumstances.

“Such confirmations are allowed in the bail process under $117A (6) of the Criminal Procedure and evidence Act (Chapter 9:07).

“So, if accused made such confirmations then the court could not ignore such averments or assertions. The court’s ruling as alluded to above is concerned with facts raised during buil application. The court should not ignore such facts since they were raised by the accused himself. That in our view does not show any bias on the person of the court.”

Mr Manokore said there was no reasonable apprehension of bias that can be deduced from the court’s bail ruling.

He also said that Sikhala wanted to abuse the court processes by applying for the recusal of the magistrate.

“For an application of this nature to succeed, the accused person needs to prove on a balance of probabilities that a ground for the recusal of the trial magistrate exists,” said Mr Manokore. “He has in his submissions failed to establish any ground for the recusal of the trial magistrate.”

The State said legal practitioners should not just make applications for the sake of undertaking instructions, but should apply their minds and advise clients accordingly.

“It is not proper for court officials to just make applications because they have been instructed to do so, they need to apply their legal mind and advise their clients,” he said.-state media

ZB Bank Lone Robber Still On The Run

A lone suspected armed robber who pounced on ZB Bank branch in Victoria Falls allegedly entered the banking hall a few minutes before closing time and waited for other clients to leave before pointing a gun at staff.

The yet-to-be-identified suspect was wearing a hat and mask and pretended to be seeking to apply for a loan from the financial institution.

Acting Matabeleland North police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Christopher Mahohoma confirmed the armed robbery which took place on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the unknown suspect went away with US$12 000 instead of US$100 000 as initially stated.

The suspect allegedly went into the banking hall a few minutes before closing time and waited for other clients to leave.

“On 30 November 2022 at 1630 hours, a report of armed robbery was received at ZRP Victoria Falls to the effect that an unknown male adult who was armed with a pistol robbed ZB Bank, Victoria Falls branch of US$12 000,” said Asst Insp Mahohoma.

Circumstances according to police are that the suspect who was dressed in a black and white T-shirt, grey trousers, black hat and a black mask entered the banking hall disguised as a genuine customer.

He reportedly approached Ms Caroline Dube, a bank teller and enquired about the requirements for one to apply for a loan.

“The accused person who was the last customer in the bank moved towards the exit door around 15:55 hours and Mr Lasho Ndlovu, a security guard from Peace Security Company was following behind him so that he could close the door after his exit since the bank was closing for the day.

“Suddenly, the accused person turned back and pointed a firearm at Mr Ndlovu before ordering everyone to remain still,” said the police provincial spokesperson.

It is alleged that the suspect then ordered two bank tellers Ms Scholastic Mazinyani and Ms Siphiweyinkosi Mpofu to surrender all the cash in their tills.

The two allegedly surrendered the cash and the accused person packed it in a satchel.

He then demanded keys to the back exit door from the branch supervisor Mr Tinashe Shayamano.

Police were told that the suspect walked out of the bank through the exit door and walked westwards and started to run.

All the events were captured on closed-circuit television.

Police attended the scene after a report was made.

Police are also investigating another robbery where a suspect used the same modus operandi.

He allegedly walked into Glow Petroleum service station and threatened fuel attendants with a gun and went away with about US$50.

Asst Insp Mahohoma said no arrest has been made but investigations were underway.

“We are appealing for information from members of the public which can lead to the arrest of the accused person,” he said.-state media

Proof That Chamisa’s MPs Are Not Wealth Hunters

Davis Laque writes out his view that Nelson Chamisa’s MPs cannot be wealth hunters. FULL TEXT

For the avoidance of doubt, I refuse to see all these women & men in these pictures as wealth hunters, who choose money over the citizens.

Some of Chamisa’s MPs

If that was their motivation, all of them would’ve chosen to stand with Mwonzora when it was actually fashionable.

Honest truth is, when ZanuPF handed the MDC to Mwonzora, the ‘sensible’ thing then, for any legislators who wanted power, positions & wealth, was standing with him.

The now CCC legislators consciously stood to stand with Adv Chamisa, pursuant of a shared vision, & servanthood.

In the process of opting to stand with Adv Chamisa, & by default, the electorate, many of these public representatives lost power, privileges & resources for 2 years

Doesn’t need mentioning, that even more personal resources were used during the March by-election campaigns.

I equally maintain my publicly shared view, that the #LoanGate was a deliberate scandal, created by ZanuPF, to create this very disillusionment & internal rift, threatening to tear CCC.

I equally maintain my publicly shared view, that ZanuPF is deliberate to “split CCC.”!

What particularly compounded the situation we have now, is that CCC took to much time, to be ontop of this situation.

A formal party position wasn’t timeously shared.

Even more tragically, to date, the current witchhunting is entirely based on hearsay & rumor mongering.

While at it, it’s equally clear that ZanuPF will attempt to dangle the proverbial carrot, to lure some public representatives & key officials in the CCC.

That impending situation demands that the party be able to actively & decisively respond to any such regime tactics.

Whilst CCC puts its proverbial house in order, I urge fellow citizens to take no part in piting Adv Chamisa against the entirety of his CCC elected public representatives.

They are not wholesomely, “sellouts”.

Poor decisions were made all round.
Let’s learn & move on.

CCC’s 2023 triump can’t only be depended on the indisputable popularity of NC

Even he needs popular women & men of substance, capable of attracting votes in their wards & constituencies.

Some of these are already there in the current Parliament.
Don’t demonize all of them.

CCC’s biggest concern has never been appealing to the electorate.

It has always been survival.

If the regime fails to destroy CCC, they’ll pursue projecting it in a way that fuels disillusionment & irrigates apathy.

To counter this, unity & perseverance become key!

enkosi!

RESIGNATION: Ramaphosa Postpones Update Statement

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s much-anticipated address to the nation on Thursday evening has been postponed because he’s consulting stakeholders.
“We are in an unprecedented and extraordinary moment as a constitutional democracy as a result of the report and therefore whatever decision he makes, that decision has to be informed by the best interest of the country.

“That decision cannot be rushed and taken in haste. We apologise for the impression that he was going to address the nation tonight,” presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said.

The postponement comes amid wide speculation that Ramaphosa was expected to resign amid damning findings made by the section 89 panel of experts that he may have committed a serious violation of the law and serious misconduct in terms of the constitution.

“The president appreciates the urgency and enormity of this issue and what it means for the country and the stability of government and as a result, he is still processing the report and is also engaging role players and stakeholders across the governing party, alliance and is engaging a broad range of stakeholders,” said Magwenya.

The report found that Ramaphosa had a case to answer on the origins of the foreign currency stolen from his Phala Phala farm in February 2020.

He said Ramaphosa still needs to indicate to the country what action he intends taking.

On Wednesday, after the report was handed to National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, Ramaphosa maintained his innocence, saying: “I have endeavoured, throughout my tenure as president, not only to abide by my oath but to set an example of respect for the constitution, for its institutions, for due process and the law.

“I categorically deny that I have violated this oath in any way, and I similarly deny that I am guilty of any of the allegations made against me,” said Ramaphosa.

Meanwhile, a special NEC (national executive committee) meeting is expected to be held on Friday at 2pm at Nasrec.-TimesLIVE

UZ Produces 40 Distinctions

The University of Zimbabwe presented 6 084 graduates yesterday to be capped by President Mnangagwa with top undergraduate Munashe Gahadza who scored a record-breaking 40 distinctions out of a possible 44 courses racing to a first class BSc Honours degree in Actuarial Science.
He also won the University of Zimbabwe Book Prize and was named the Faculty’s best graduating student and most consistent student. For his achievements, Gahadza won the Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa Chancellor’s Award for the best male undergraduate student earning a cash prize of US$1 000. The President topped this up with a further US$1 000 for his attainment of 40 distinctions.

Speaking after being capped by the President, he shared his delight with his family. “This is an achievement for me and my family. I dedicate this degree to my family and everyone who supported me since the beginning. I urge other students who are still pursuing their studies to continue to work hard. It is possible and you can achieve this,” he said.

His next step was to start his actuarial professional exams for him to become a qualified actuary. An actuary is a business professional who deals with the measurement and management of risk and uncertainty.

Top female undergraduate student Gamuchirai Bhiza also scored a first, becoming the first female student to attain a first-class honours degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering.

For her efforts, Bhiza was awarded the Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa Chancellor’s Award for the best female undergraduate also with a cash prize of US$1 000 as well as the Women in Science & Engineering Award for the best female student.

The President commended the realisation of qualitative growth within the higher education sector through the introduction of new degree programmes.

“It is also commendable that 39 percent of the graduates were in the critical areas of natural and applied sciences, medicine, engineering and information and communication technology related disciplines. The future is in sciences and the University of Zimbabwe, along with other institutions of higher learning continues to propel this science-oriented education. After all, this is how developed countries overcame under-development,” he said.

The trailblazing initiative by the University to create three streams for start-ups was a welcome development as the approach was in sync with the Second Republic’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind.

This would undoubtedly broaden the participation of more stakeholders in the country’s on-going innovation and industrialisation revolution.

The start-up programmes include the graduate innovator start up programme, the industry-based innovator start-up programme and the community-based innovator programme.

UZ Vice Chancellor Professor Paul Mapfumo said the University continued to make progress towards implementing its programme approach to research and innovation, underpinning the industrialisation thrust.

“The University of Zimbabwe has to date registered 21 start-up companies from its first cohort of graduates and interns and these are at various phases of business development. A number of private and public companies are now also coming on board to begin to collaborate with the University Innovation Hub and also with the faculties to produce at large scale and commercialise goods and services that are coming from the research and innovation, but particularly from the start-up companies,” he said.

The University has seamlessly linked teaching and learning to research, innovation and industrialisation to produce Education 5.0 graduates with new competencies that foster creativity, innovation and establishment of companies.

“The institution has championed new innovative methods of delivery in teaching and learning in order to migrate from theory-based classroom-based teaching and learning to more practical student-centred teaching and learning towards production of goods and services. This is not a mean feat in terms of managing the change and shifting the mindset; this is work in progress,” said Prof Mapfumo. -state media

Ramaphosa Throws Mnangagwa Under Bus

By-South Africa has said that it could not supply Zimbabwe with more power than it does now because it “does not have any access to capacity”.

South Africa, through Eskom, has a contract with Zimbabwe to supply electricity.

The remarks come after the Zambezi River Authority’s directive to Zimbabwe to close its Kariba South hydroelectric power station due to a decrease in water levels.

Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha told The Citizen SA that the power utility cannot help Zimbabwe.

Mantshantsha’s remarks were echoed by Energy and Political analyst Tshepo Kgadima who said Zimbabweans should brace themselves for a dark Christmas as the region awaits a recovery from the rainfall season. He is quoted as saying:

I don’t know how they would do that under the current climate, previous years, let’s say seven, eight years ago, that was feasible, but today is not at all, it’s not feasible.

And if they do it now, on political grounds and not on technical grounds or obeying the laws of physics then South Africa’s grid is going to collapse.

Here is the thing that we need to maybe ask the river system has a hydro capacity of 20 000 megawatts, now they knew this how many years ago? How come they’ve never done anything to increase that capacity?

According to a letter dated 25 November from the Zambezi River Authority (ZRA), which runs the Kariba Dam jointly owned by Zimbabwe and neighbouring Zambia, the dam no longer has any usable water to continue undertaking power generation operations.

ZRA noted that the Kariba South Hydro Power Station which provides Zimbabwe with about 70% of its electricity and has been producing significantly less than its capacity of 1,050 megawatts in recent years due to receding water levels caused by droughts.

Zanu PF Unleashes Terror In Binga

Tinashe Sambiri|Zanu PF hooligans are causing havoc in Binga before the December 3 by-election in the area.

Two CCC members Delampfuli and Zuze Dube were severely assaulted by known Zanu PF members on November 30.

The two were admitted and treated at Binga Hospital.

It has been reported that the Zanu PF hooligans user logs and knobkerries to attack the said CCC activists.

“CCC activists were brutally assaulted by Zanu PF thugs at Siabuzuba Business Centre in Binga on November 30. We condemn the harassment and persecution of our members,” a CCC official said on Thursday.

Tunisia Shock France

France-born Wahbi Khazri scored the only goal of the game as Tunisia upset World Cup holders France 1-0 at the Education City Stadium, but the shock victory was not enough for them to join the defending champions in the last 16 of the tournament in Qatar.

Khazri steered home a 58th-minute winner amid a cluster of defenders for only a third victory at six World Cup tournaments for Tunisia, but they were still eliminated as Australia beat Denmark 1-0 in the other group match.

France, who made nine changes for this match from the team that beat Denmark and had already booked their place in the knockout stages, finished top of Group D on goal difference from runners-up Australia.

Tunisia were left dejected after Australia’s win over Denmark sent the North African team packing.

In the final minutes, Tunisia had to hold on for the victory as an Antoine Griezmann goal in stoppage time was disallowed following a VAR review.

Khazri, who grew up in Corsica and plays in Ligue 1 for Montpellier, was one of six players in the Tunisian line-up who were born on French soil and he was capped by France at the under-21 level.

There is a large Tunisian community in France who will savour the result, the country’s first win against European opposition at a World Cup and just their third ever in 18 matches at the tournament.

However, they needed Australia to drop points in the day’s other Group D game to stand a chance of reaching the last 16 for the first time.

Les Bleus had been the first team to secure a place in the next round after winning their opening two games in Qatar.- Al Jazeera

Argentina Dismiss Poland

Argentina and Lionel Messi turned in a dominant display to beat Poland 2-0 at the World Cup to win Group C and advance to the last 16 at Stadium 974 in Qatar on Wednesday.

Second-half goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Julian Alvarez were plenty for Argentina, who were shocked by
Saudi Arabia in their group opener, to keep their quest for a first World Cup title since 1986 alive.

“It’s so emotional for me, for the whole squad. It’s a dream come true,” Mac Allister told reporters. “I debuted with this team, I’m so proud of that. And now managing to score in a World Cup. I’m so happy.

“[After Messi’s penalty miss] we tried to stay positive, to stay calm. We did not feel down. We tried to be optimistic. Fortunately we managed to win and go through.”

Despite being thoroughly outplayed through the 90 minutes, Poland also snuck into the knockout round in second place thanks to a superior goal difference over Mexico and will face Group D winners France on Sunday. Argentina is set to face Australia on Saturday with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line.

Messi was playing in his 22nd game at the World Cup — and 999th of his career for club and country — breaking a tie with Diego Maradona for the most by an Argentine in the world’s biggest tournament.- espn

A nurse from North West London who started her career in the NHS age 21 as a hospital cleaner has been named the ‘best nurse’ in the UK.

Dorcas Gwata, 52, who works as a psychiatric liaison nurse at St Mary’s Hospital A&E, won the Best Nurse category in recognition of her work supporting young people involved in gangs and knife crime.

Dorcas Gwata

Dorcas’ work looked at how knife crime is influenced by poverty and race.

After working in her home country in Zimbabwe helping people become more engaged in mental health services, she says she applied what she had learnt when back in London.

She told The Sun: “I didn’t work in an office – I’d wear trainers and jeans and engage with people wherever they were – in McDonald’s, on street corners or in prison.

“One girl came from three generations who had never worked. There was a very strong history of criminality and drug use. She took an overdose, and I helped her. It took a lot of work and she needed a lot of help. Now, she now works in the City. We broke the cycle. Her children, and her children’s children, will see the possibilities because their mother worked. It makes me really proud.”

Ramaphosa To Address The Nation As Pressure For Him To Resign Mounts

By – The South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to address the nation amid reports that he is ready to resign.

Officials from his office, who did not divulge what the President wants to announce, said Ramaphosa would address the nation any time from now.

News24 reported in the afternoon that Ramaphosa told his close allies that he was willing to step down.

In the immediate aftermath of a Section 89 panel report, top party leaders have been frantically grappling with what it means for Ramaphosa.

Mexico Post Impressive Win But Bow Out Of World Cup 2022

Mexico’s 2-1 victory against Saudi Arabia was not enough for them to advance from Group C, as Poland and Argentina progress.

Henry Martin and Luis Chavez scored for Mexico as they defeated Saudi Arabia 2-1 in a thrilling Group C match, but it was not enough for El Tri to qualify for the World Cup knockout stage, with Poland snatching the second qualifying spot in the group behind Argentina.

Two goals in quick succession early in the second half gave Mexico a 2-0 lead on Wednesday as Saudi Arabia’s defence appeared to collapse. In the other Group C game, Argentina also was up 2-0 against Poland.- Al Jazeera

Redefining Oral Health

A new Global Oral Health Status Report published today by the World Health Organization (WHO) provides the first-ever comprehensive picture of oral disease burden with data profiles for 194 countries, giving unique insights into key areas and markers of oral health that are relevant for decision-makers.

The report shows that almost half of the world’s population (45% or 3.5 billion people) suffer from oral diseases, with 3 out of every 4 affected people living in low- and middle-income countries.

Global cases of oral diseases have increased by 1 billion over the last 30 years—a clear indication that many people do not have access to prevention and treatment of oral diseases.

“Oral health has long been neglected in global health, but many oral diseases can be prevented and treated with the cost-effective measures outlined in this report,” said WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “WHO is committed to providing guidance and support to countries so that all people, wherever they live and whatever their income, have the knowledge and tools needed to look after their teeth and mouths, and to access services for prevention and care when they need them.”

Rapid increase of oral diseases

The most common oral diseases are dental caries (tooth decay), severe gum disease, tooth loss and oral cancers. Untreated dental caries is the single most common condition globally, affecting an estimated 2.5 billion people. Severe gum disease ̶ a major cause of total tooth loss ̶ is estimated to affect 1 billion people worldwide. About 380 000 new cases of oral cancers are diagnosed every year.

The report underscores the glaring inequalities in access to oral health services, with a huge burden of oral diseases and conditions affecting the most vulnerable and disadvantaged populations. People on low incomes, people living with disabilities, older people living alone or in care homes, those living in remote and rural communities and people from minority groups carry a higher burden of oral diseases.

This pattern of inequalities is similar to other noncommunicable diseases such as cancers, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and mental disorders. Risk factors common to noncommunicable diseases such as high sugar intake, all forms of tobacco use, and harmful use of alcohol all contribute to the global oral health crisis.

Barriers to delivering oral health services

Only a small percentage of the global population is covered by essential oral health services, and those with the greatest need often have the least access to services. The key barriers to delivering access to oral health services for all include:

Oral health care requires high out-of-pocket expenditures. This often leads to catastrophic costs and significant financial burden for families and communities.
The provision of oral health services largely relies on highly specialized providers using expensive high-tech equipment and materials, and these services are not well integrated with primary health care models.
Poor information and surveillance systems, combined with low priority for public oral health research are major bottlenecks to developing more effective oral health interventions and policies.
Opportunities to improve global oral health

The report showcases many promising opportunities to improve the state of global oral health including:

adopting a public health approach by addressing common risk factors through promoting a well-balanced diet low in sugars, stopping use of all forms of tobacco, reducing alcohol consumption and improving access to effective and affordable fluoride toothpaste.
planning oral health services as part of national health and improving integration of oral health services in primary health care as part of universal health coverage.
redefining oral health workforce models to respond to population needs and expanding competencies of non-dental healthcare workers to expand oral health service coverage; and
strengthening information systems by collecting and integrating oral health data into national health monitoring systems.
“Placing people at the heart of oral health services is critical if we are to achieve the vision of universal health coverage for all individuals and communities by 2030,” said Dr Bente Mikkelsen, WHO Director for Noncommunicable Diseases.

She added: “This report acts as a starting point by providing baseline information to help countries monitor progress of implementation, while also providing timely and relevant feedback to decision-makers at the national level. Together, we can change the current situation of oral health neglect.”

Man Kills Own Lover For Accepting US$5 From Side Lover

By A Correspondent- An Esigodini man appeared in court after he fatally stabbed his girlfriend for receiving US$5 from another man she was suspected to be having an affair with.

The man Mlungisi Vundla (49) kept the body in the house for two days and on the third day tried to commit suicide by drinking a pesticide before seeking help from a neighbour.

Vundla was not asked to plead when he appeared before Esigodini Magistrate, Ms Menelisi Linda facing a murder charge. He was remanded in custody to December 12.

Prosecuting, Ms Nokukhanya Moyo said Vundla allegedly killed his girlfriend Sithokozile Sibanda (39) on November 7.

“On 7 November Vundla had a misunderstanding with his girlfriend after she had received money from another man which she wanted to use as bus fare. This resulted in a misunderstanding and the accused person stabbed the now deceased with a sharp object in the stomach and she died,” she said.

Vundla kept the body in the house and on November 10 he attempted to commit suicide by drinking a pesticide. He went to a neighbour’s homestead to seek assistance which then brought the matter to light.

Vundla was ferried to the United Bulawayo Hospitals for treatment.

During the national launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against GBV last Friday, the Minister of Women Affairs, Community and Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Dr Sithembiso Nyoni decried escalating violence against women and children.

She said from January to September 2022, 435 rap_e cases were reported and of these, 58 percent involved minors. She said a total of 959 s_3xual violence cases and 1 038 domestic violence cases were also reported during the period.

Woman Lures Girl (10), Gives Own Husband Who R_apes Her

By A Correspondent- A couple from Chibara Farm in Concession was sentenced to 20 years each after the wife lured a 10-year-old girl and handed her over to the husband to s_əxually abuse her.

The wife watched as the husband rap_ed the minor, a neighbour’s child in Grade Three, on two different occasions.

The couple pleaded guilty to two counts of rap_e when they appeared before Bindura regional magistrate Mr Amos Mbobo who suspended two years for each for the next five years on the condition of good behaviour.

The couple will serve an effective 18 years each.

The prosecutor Mr Edward Katsvairo told the court that on September 17, 2020, at around 6 am the complainant’s mother left the minor at home while she went to work in Harare.

The minor was advised by the mother to sleep at her grandmother’s house.

The court heard that the accused’s wife persuaded the minor to sleep at her house instead of the grandmother’s because it was getting dark.

The minor agreed.

During the night the wife called the minor into the couple’s bedroom where the husband tripped the minor to the ground and rap_ed her while the wife watched.

The wife pacified the minor telling her not to scream because the ‘process’ was not painful.

The husband later threatened the minor with death if she revealed the matter and gave her US$5.

During the same night, the accused rap_ed the minor for the second time in the kitchen while the wife watched.

On November 7, 2020, the accused’s wife met the complainant’s aunt and told her that the minor had developed vag!nal sores.

The aunt quizzed the minor who opened up about the s_əxual abuse.

A police report was made leading to the arrest of the pair.

Congolese Man Soup Over Fake Zimbabwean ID

By A Correspondent- Congolese man is in trouble for allegedly possessing a fake Zimbabwean identity document.

Benjamin Kabongo, who is based in Chiredzi, claimed to hail from Wedza.

He was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi, who remanded him in custody to today for bail consideration.

The court heard that Kabongo entered the country illegally, through an unknown port of entry, on an unknown date.

He hatched a plan to obtain Zimbabwean identity documents to regularise his stay in the country.

He allegedly took advantage of the mobile registration exercise and supplied false information to the Registrar General’s officers.

Kabongo purported to be Benjamin Tapiwa Nhira, born on January 25, 1983, in Mapingure Village under Chief Svosve in Wedza.

Due to this misrepresentation, Kabongo was issued a Zimbabwean birth certificate on September 24, in Chiredzi, by the Registrar General’s Office.

On November 24, Kabongo, who was in possession of a Zimbabwe national identity card bearing his photo and in the name of Benjamin Tapiwa Nhira, presented himself at the Registrar General’s Office in Harare with the intent to acquire a Zimbabwean passport.

Upon inspection of his identity card, and copies of birth certificate, officers noted some discrepancies which led them to investigate further.

Investigations revealed that he had fraudulently acquired the national identity card after supplying false information that he was a Zimbabwean.

This led to his arrest.

Pardon Dziva prosecuted.

Mysterious Heatwave Prevent Newly Married Couple From Enjoying Conjugal Rights

By A Correspondent- A Hopley man and his wife claim they have been experiencing a mysterious “heatwave” whenever they try to have s_əx.

Garikai Chikati (30) and his wife, Sydia Muchembere (33) say they have not been enjoying their c0njugal rights since they got married five months ago.

They claim to experience mysterious irritations in their bodies whenever they attempt to make love.

Garikai claimed that his manhood becomes itchy and develops a hot sensation.

They now suspect juju was used on them.

“We are appealing for spiritual deliverance because what we have been experiencing for the past five months is so mysterious that we can no longer remain silent about our bedroom affair,” said Garikai.

“I married my wife five months ago and we are yet to have a child and I strongly suspect that I could have been bewitched.

“Hazvitsanangurike mukoma.

“Dai tawana rubatsiro nekuti ndinofunga kuti ndakashinhirirwa.”

He added: “My mother died in 2020 and it took us a week to travel from Harare to Marapira Village in Gokwe for her burial as our vehicle developed mechanical problems.

“Takaita setakabatwa pfungwa tose zvekuti ini nababa nemukoma wangu takawana amai vavigwa vanasekuru vakatitsamwira kuti taive tisingade kuuya,” said Garikai.

However, Sydia told H-Metro that Garikai’s sanity seemed questionable when she first met him.

Grade 7 Results Show 41 Percent Passrate

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) yesterday released 2022 results for Grade 7 examinations which showed that girls outshined boys by a 7,4-percentage point margin.

The results also indicated a 1,04% drop in the national pass rate from 41,13% in 2021 to 40,09%.

There was, however, a 5,4% increase in the number of candidates who sat for the examinations.

Announcing the results, Zimsec board chairperson Eddie Mwenje said: “A total of 343 169 candidates sat for the 2022 Grade 7 examinations compared to 325 573 candidates who sat for the same examinations in 2022 showing a 5,4% increase in candidatures. This is equivalent to an additional 17 596 candidates.

“Out of the 343 169 candidates who sat for the 2022 Grade 7 examinations, 177 466 were females while 165 703 were males. The pass rate for female candidates is 43,66%, while that of male candidates stands at 36,22%. The results show that female candidates out-performed their male counterparts.”

The results showed that candidates performed well in indigenous languages.

The pass rate for students with special needs fell by almost 24%.

“A total of 323 candidates with special needs sat for a range of subjects from five to six. Of these, 208 wrote six subjects, while 91 hard of hearing candidates sat for five subjects. The pass rate for special needs candidates in 2022 was 30,43% compared to 54,88% recorded in 2021,” Mwenje said.

He noted that while the examination council was grappling with examination leaks, measures were being put in place to stop the practice.

“Security of examinations is a continuing process. We will keep on working towards improving to stop the leaks. We have ways of dealing with students who leak examinations,” Mwenje added.

Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Obert Masaraure said the free-falling pass rate reflected the crisis facing the education sector.

“We continue to have a low pass rate, not only (at Grade 7), but also at Ordinary Level. This is due to neglect, teachers are neglected, we have bad infrastructure and everything is chaotic,” he said. “The results are not a true reflection, because when they are marking, they become lenient, so any exam marker will tell you it could have been far worse than that. Government needs to seriously inject resources into the education sector.”

There was uproar early this year after it emerged that 51 primary schools in Matabeleland North province recorded a zero percent pass rate in the 2021 Grade Seven public examinations.

The number was a slight improvement from the 2020 one when 85 schools in the province recorded a zero percent pass rate.

One Man Robber Walks Away With Over US$100k

By A Correspondent- A lone gunman robbed the ZB Bank Victoria Falls branch on Wednesday afternoon and made off with an undisclosed amount of money – a source from the bank however said more than US$100 000 was stolen.

Sources told the Chronicle that the armed robber walked into the banking hall pretending to be a client and was wearing a wool hat and a face mask.

The suspect then proceeded to the counter and threatened bank tellers with the gun ordering everyone to lie down and they complied.

It is said that the suspect demanded cash which he loaded into a satchel that he was carrying and walked out of the banking hall.

“The suspect entered the banking hall as a client and was still inside when the bank closed. He threatened the security guard who gave in and he then went to the tills where pointed the gun and demanded cash which he loaded into a satchel and walked out through the back door,” said a source.

The suspect reportedly walked away after leaving the bank premises and started running and people outside did not suspect anything until staff from the bank came out and reported that they had been robbed. Pictures of the robbery incident started circulating on social media platforms after being captured on CCTV.

The Chronicle learnt that Glow Petroleum Service Station in Hwange was robbed by a single man on Monday using the same modus operandi.

It is reported that the suspect went away with about US$50.

Police could not readily comment on the robberies.

“We Will Comply With Investigations”: Chillspot Records

By A Correspondent- Handlers of Chillspot Records co-producer, Tafadzwa “Levels” Kadzimwe, have said they will comply with the authorities in their investigations.

A complaint has been lodged with the police over allegations the star record producer rap_ed his former girlfriend.

The matter has been reported at Borrowdale Police Station where Levels (33) is facing rap_e charges.

His former girlfriend, Ashley “Shashl” Moyo (23) is alleging Levels rap_ed her during the course of their relationship.

However, Levels’ handlers said they will not rely on social media reports in dealing with the issue.

“We cannot rely on social media speculation, we are still waiting to hear from the police.

“We will comply with the police once we have been approached,” said Levels’ legal representative.

The pair’s spectacular fallout has elicited in a flood of mixed reactions.

Levels and Shashl’s relationship appeared to have soured when the pair’s s_əx tape leaked over the weekend.

A number of celebrities have been fighting in Shashl’s corner.

Others are convinced Levels deliberately leaked the s_əx tape.

However, the saga took a new twist when it emerged Shashl has filed rap_e charges against Levels.

The docket has been circulating on social media with some people claiming the record producer was in hiding.

His legal representative cleared the air by saying they will comply with the authorities.

Reports yesterday appeared to suggest that Levels will give an exclusive interview with StarFM’s Ollah 7 today.

End Of The Road For Land Barons

Government has finally decided to act on land barons and illegal settlements by crafting a cocktail of strategies that include reviewing legislation and setting up courts to specifically deal with them.

The fight against land barons is also targeting illegal settlements on wetlands.

Acting Information minister Jenfan Muswere said devolution funds would be availed to the Harare City Council and other municipalities for the purpose of strengthening the local authorities’ law enforcement capacities.

“The relevant legislation is being reviewed for the Zimbabwe Republic Police and municipal police to work together more efficiently, and for the establishment of Municipal Courts,” Muswere said.

He said government had concluded mapping of settlements against approved layout plans.

The next stage involves verification of settlements to determine those which conform to approved plans to pave way for regularisation and issuance of title deeds.

“Government notes and sternly warns against the sprouting of settlements on some State-owned land. Strict action will be taken against those, including leaders, who are found in clear breach of the country’s rural and urban land use laws,” Muswere said.

“Relevant legislation will also be reviewed to allow for this.”

Muswere said 347 suspected land barons had been arrested and 91 cases were before the courts, while 57 had since been finalised, with six convictions having been secured.

Government has also rolled out a five-year plan on wetland restoration from 2021 to 2025.

Six wetlands covering a total area of 600 hectares have been rehabilitated.

With regard to housing co-operatives, a dispute resolution committee to assist the Registrar of Co-operatives has been established.

A total of 129 cases have been resolved in 2022 countrywide.

“The accused person was further heard asking his wife to open the door, claiming that he had forgiven them and wanted to settle the matter peacefully.

“She opened the door and the accused person entered.

The accused and his wife fled the scene, leaving their house open.

“They were reported to have told their neighbour that the deceased had killed himself,” said Insp Chakanza.

Petios was reported to have separated from his wife some time ago.

Mai Princess had reportedly been given money to pay Petios, for making their wardrobe.

Frank Buyanga In Trouble Again

The High Court has set aside the cancellation of a warrant of arrest for South Africa-based controversial businessperson Frank Buyanga Sadiqi.

This follows an application by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe for review of Harare magistrate Judith Taruvinga’s judgment that cancelled the warrant of arrest earlier this month.

High Court judges Justices Pisirayi Kwenda and Benjamin Chikowero ruled that Taruvinga grossly misdirected herself in her judgment.

“In a masterstroke, she overturned two judgments of the superior courts … She failed to appreciate the difference between the procedure of setting aside an irregular proceeding and cancellation of an order,” the judges ruled.

“An irregular proceeding is a proceeding contrary to the law and is, thus, a nullity. Such a proceeding is a money event in the eyes of the law. It cannot be cancelled. It can only be set aside by a court of competent jurisdiction. When the magistrate thought she was merely cancelling a warrant of arrest, she was in fact setting aside her previous order thereby reviewing her own work. She had no jurisdiction to do so. She had become a functus officio.”

Functus officio refers to an officer or agency whose mandate has expired, due to either the arrival of an expiry date or an agency having accomplished the purpose for which it was created.

Justice Kwenda complained of harassment by Buyanga’s lawyers.

He said: “I could have reviewed the proceedings and if need be, obtained concurrence from another judge, peacefully in the comfort of my chambers. All hell broke loose when I decided to and did invite the legal practitioners who represented Frank Buyanga Sadiqi and the State in their capacity as officers of the court, to assist me with the legal issues which I had identified.

“As soon as they arrived, Frank Buyanga Sadiqi’s legal practitioners, three in number, ganged up against me and presented a furious argument aimed at ejecting me from the review process, accusing me of bias. If it was up to me and not a call of duty, I would have resolved never to do it again.”

Buyanga was arrested in South Africa on November 10, 2022 on charges of child trafficking, immigration law violations, forgery and contempt of court.

His arrest emanated from a protracted child custody wrangle with his ex-girlfriend Chantelle Muteswa.

The South African courts have so far denied him bail.

Shell and The Woolmark Company to partner with Nissan Formula E Team

For the upcoming season, Nissan Formula E Team will count on the valuable support of two strong technical partners. The team will keep working closely with its well-established partner Shell, while is also proud to announce an exciting new collaboration with The Woolmark Company.

Shell will continue its long-standing partnership with the team into Season 9, demonstrating its commitment to Formula E. The partnership supports Shell in its continued development of its specialised Shell E-fluids, designed to optimise the efficiency of EVs, and its expanding Shell Recharge charging network, as it aims to become the global leader in EV charging services. István Kapitány, Global Executive Vice President of Shell Mobility said: “Through our partnership with Nissan in Formula E, we are taking experience gained on the track and using it to create better products and services for our EV customers on the road. Formula E is an important testing ground for the development and production of cleaner energy products, including Shell Recharge, Shell E-fluids and other new energy products.”

The Woolmark Company joins Nissan Formula E for Season 9 as its technical partner to develop a high-performance team kit using Merino wool. Soft on skin, Merino wool offers unbeatable moisture management, thermoregulation and breathability properties, making it perfectly engineered to a performance-lead environment. For the first time, Merino wool has been put to the test through the Nissan Formula E Team uniform. “Our technical team worked hand-in-hand to craft a performance-oriented team kit, driving unexpected product offerings thanks to the inherent technical and eco-credentials of the fibre”, said The Woolmark Company Managing Director John Roberts. “The innovative nature of Merino wool is paralleled to the technology behind Formula E thanks to manufacturing techniques and engineering between our teams.”

Commenting on the Nissan Formula E Team partners for Season 9, Volpe added: “For us at Nissan it is very important to partner with companies that share our same values, priorities and long-term goals, especially when it comes to sustainability and electrification.

“We are proud to have the support of both Shell and The Woolmark Company and to collaborate with two likeminded partners who, like us, are committed to build a more sustainable future through technology and innovation”, concluded Volpe.

OFFENDING ZRP OFFICER RISKS GARNISHMENT OF SALARY OVER TORTURE

By A Correspondent- An overzealous Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer risks having
money deducted from his monthly salary to pay up damages amounting to ZWL400 000 as punishment for his misdemeanours after he severely assaulted and tortured Ednock Dube, a Chitungwiza resident, for allegedly violating curfew regulations.

Tinashe Chinopfukutwa of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) recently wrote a letter to ZRP Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga notifying him of his intention to apply in court for a garnishee order against the ZRP officer only identified as Chafunga and who is stationed at St Marys Police Station in Chitungwiza.

In the letter, Chinopfukutwa said payment of Chafunga’s monthly salary should be garnished by Salary Services Bureau, which processes government employees’ salaries, and channelled to offset a debt which he owes Dube.

Chafunga together with Matanga and Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Hon. Kazembe Kazembe were on 16 September 2022 ordered by Chitungwiza Magistrate Sheunesu Matova to pay ZWL400 000 in damages to Dube after holding them liable for the violation of the Chitungwiza resident’s fundamental rights.

The 46 year-old Dube sued Chafunga, Matanga and Kazembe in April 2021 for compensation for pain and suffering and embarrassment and humiliation after he was subjected to unlawful assault, torture and inhumane and degrading treatment at the hands of some ZRP officers who
included Chafunga.

Dube had been arrested by ZRP officers on 25 February 2021 while on his way home from work for allegedly violating the curfew regulations imposed by government in 2020 in a bid to stop the unnecessary movement of people and to curb the spread of coronavirus. He was taken to St Mary’s Police Station, where he was detained in the police cells while
Chafunga handcuffed him to a pole and assaulted him with a truncheon on his head and hands.

As a result of the assault, Dube ended up nursing a fractured finger and sustained injuries to his eye and thereby limiting his eyesight.

He was then assisted by Chinopfukutwa of ZLHR and successfully sued Hon. Kazembe, Matanga and Chafunga for damages at Chitungwiza Civil Magistrates Court.

Dube is the latest person to be assisted by ZLHR to garnish the monthly salary of some offending ZRP officers for their delinquencies.

In March 2017, a Mutare Magistrate granted an application to garnish $100 per month from Constable Crispen Chikazhe in satisfaction of a judgment debt, which was granted against the police officer for his barbarism when he tortured Brighton Sanyanga, then a 19-year-old pupil
at Pafiwa High School in Mutasa District in Manicaland province.

Sanyanga, who at the time was an Advanced Level student at Pafiwa High School, was tortured by Chikazhe, who had invited him to attend at Nyanga police station to answer allegations of malicious damage to property which had happened at the school after a demonstration allegedly staged by students. Chikazhe, in an effort to extract information from Sanyanga, tortured the student physically by exposing him to electrical shock and psychologically by threatening to kill him.

Sanyanga’s lawyer Peggy Tavagadza of ZLHR intervened by suing Chikazhe on behalf of the student to ensure that the law enforcement agent paid for his cruel actions.

Sangoma’s Hubby Brings Lover Home

By A Correspondent- A sangoma, Vuyokazi Mbisa (40) left her husband alone at home and went to thwasa – but he allegedly used the opportunity to bring a nyatsi into their bedroom.

But what he didn’t know is that sangoma Vuyokazi’s ancestors showed her everything about his nyatsi.

Sangoma Vuyokazi from Ramaphosa squatter camp in Philippi said in one of her visions she saw her husband drinking wine in her dining room with a light skinned young woman.

In the second vision she saw herself fighting with the same woman while people watched. She beat the woman up and tore off her clothes. In the third one, she was again fighting with the same woman and her husband was trying to intervene but doing so in favour of the nyatsi.

“I told my now ex-husband that he was cheating with a young woman and I even told him her name but he denied it. He said I was just jealous. I told him my ancestors don’t lie but he insisted that I was imagining things.”

Vuyokazi later caught the husband with the woman sitting in her shack drinking wine. She realised she was the one she saw in her dreams.

“That’s when I ended things with him. How on earth can someone bring a nyatsi into my house while I’m busy with ukuthwasa? The disrespect was not only directed at me but at my ancestors as well,” she said.

The husband had also allegedly sold a piece of their yard to someone who erected a shack on it.

“He told me he sold the land for R8 000 but I never saw a cent of it. I knew he used that money with his nyatsi,” she said.

Mbisa said she broke up with him early in 2021. The phone number of the ex-husband given to Daily Sun doesn’t work.

Grant Mashasha Opens Up On Ceiling Ordeal. Family

By A Correspondent- Grant Mashasha, who spent more than a decade indoors, including time in the ceiling of the family home in Zengeza 3, is beginning to emerge from his nightmare.

A family spokesperson said Grant spent four days hiding in the ceiling, and not more than a decade, as has been widely reported.

She revealed Grant was afraid that someone was after his life.

Nobuhle Mashasha told H-Metro that Grant, 39, is under the care of health experts, and is gradually opening up about his ordeal.

He was confined to his home, where he spent some time in the ceiling.

His mother Gogo Plaxedes Mashasha is in custody for failing to report the death of her husband.

“We managed to meet and talk to Grant upon our arrival from Gwanda,” said Nobuhle, his niece.

From how he looked on the day he was retrieved from the ceiling, Grant has changed completely, showing a healthy, handsome face.

“He feels stressed to quickly open up about how he came to be kept indoors for 10 years.

“He told us that he had been living in a room and slept on a sofa for 10 years, not 14, as reported.

“He spent four days in the ceiling, frightened by his mother’s threats that there were people after his life.

“He is beginning to understand that there is no one after his life and is now interacting with others.

“He is still scared of answering some questions thinking that someone might still be targeting his life,” said Nobuhle.

She said they read about the death of her grandfather in H-Metro, as her grandmother never informed anyone.

She also thanked the Zengeza residents for their support, and invited those who were free to join them at their rural home in Gwanda for her grandfather’s burial.

Journalist Charged For Communicating Falsehoods

NewZimbabwe.com journalist Leopold Munhende was on 28 November 2022 charged for publishing falsehoods in a story that the online platform published on 21 September 2022.

Munhende was charged for contravening Section 31 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act. He is accused of communicating falsehoods prejudicial to the State.

The police said they charged Munhende in his capacity as the editor of the publication. However, the law enforcement agents were informed that Munhende was in fact not the NewZimbabwe.com editor, they insisted on charging him for the crime.

MISA Zimbabwe deployed lawyer Chris Mhike to represent the stricken journalist.

The police specifically allege that Munhende published an article on NewZimbabwe.com that Mnangagwa had fled protesting Zimbabweans in New York. The article said dozens of aides had to shield the Zanu PF leader at the airport.

The police said Munhende knew or realised that there was a real risk or possibility that his actions or words may adversely affect the defence or economic interests of Zimbabwe.

In the warned and cautioned statement, Mundende denied the allegations, and questioned why the police arrested and charged him when he was neither the author of the article, publisher nor the editor of NewZimbabwe.com.

Munhende was released at 17:15 hours, after about five hours of interrogation.

Dear President Comrade Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa

Dear President, Comrade Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa,

A screaming headline “Government has failed us: Zec” comes up at a time when President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has just dished out half a million United States dollars to his Ministers, over one-third of a million United States Dollars to Deputy Ministers, and forth thousand United States dollars to members of Parliament as interest-free loans. Has the government become a financial institution to give loans?

A few days before the news broke out about the interest-free loans to government ministers, deputy ministers, and members of Parliament, the European Union Delegation had donated over US$5.9 million to the Zimbabwe Elections Commission (ZEC) towards the holding of Zimbabwe’s 2023 watershed elections.

A few days after the donation to ZEC, ZEC Chairperson narrated how her organization had struggled to hold by-elections due to resource constraints, to the extent that ZEC had failed to adequately pay their election agents, yet you, President Mnangagwa, where holding on to millions and millions of United States dollars to treat your ministers with half a million United States Dollars.

Members of Parliament had long complained of poor conditions of service. Parliament has long approved free loans for the purchase of vehicles by members of parliament, and as explained by Honourable Temba Mliswa, US$30 thousand of the loan was part of the approved US$80 thousand dollars that had been budgeted as car loans. Zimbabwean parliamentarians are reportedly the least paid in the region, hence some of them cannot afford to buy cars, justifying car loans for them.

And the members of parliament are poorly remunerated because of the corrupt Zanu PF government which has allowed your relatives to loot the country’s resources. Henrietta Rushwaya, for example, was exonerated after being caught red-handed trying to illegally smuggle gold out of the country, but she is a free woman who is a regular at your visits to churches.

Fifteen Billion United States Dollars worth of diamonds vanished under Zanu PF rule as acknowledged by the late President Mugabe. So parliamentarians, whether you are Zanu PF, MDC-Alliance or CCC, or Temba Mlwisa (Independent), your Zanu PF cabinet has caused you to suffer. You may deserve the US$40 thousand dollars loan to exhaust your car loan and get $10 thousand extra because the Zanu PF government has failed you.

It’s a big surprise to contemplate what the half a million dollars United States dollars given to Ministers is for. Government ministers and their deputies in Zimbabwe are given three vehicles each, hence there is no justification to give them car loans.

They have fees for their children, salaries for their domestic workers and their accommodation paid for by the Government, hence they do not deserve loans from Government, especially since there are a lot of other important things such as paying for the services of polling agents.

The Public now knows you for who you are, Comrade President. You don’t think like a human being.

I would encourage members of Parliament from across parliament to pressurize those who gave half a million United States Dollar loans to Ministers and over three-quarters of a million dollar loans to deputy ministers what the justification for such loans was for.

The heads of any members of parliament who don’t question the loans to ministers and deputy ministers whose welfare is well taken care of must roll. It would be good if all parliamentarians can petition the authority that approved loans to ministers and deputy ministers.

Zimbabweans at large, this is an opportunity to show bad leadership the red card. Vote Emmerson Mnangagwa out.

Yours hungry and angry citizen

Chamisa Speaks On Zanu PF US$40 000 MP Bribes

By- The opposition leader, CCC Nelson Chamisa, has slammed President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government for its alleged misplaced priorities.

Posting on Twitter on Wednesday, Chamisa said it is “morally and ethically wrong” for the government to give out loans to “chefs” when the majority of the country’s citizens are suffering.

This comes after the government has offered a US$40 000 housing loan to each sitting Member of Parliament (MP), US$500 000 for individual ministers, and US$350 000 for their deputies. Said Chamisa:

In any public office, any decision that prioritises self over the served is morally wrong, especially in a context where poverty pervades with citizens so hard-pressed and in circumstances of lack! Wrong leaders usually have wrong priorities.

The role of a government is to address citizens’ most urgent and pertinent needs. When this is abandoned, such a government merits replacement.

Any government that prioritises ‘chefs’ over citizens is not fit for the purpose. #CitizensFirst.

No public funds can ever be received or transacted silently. Accountability must always be full!

Arguably, the majority of CCC supporters who have expressed their thoughts on social media have criticised the party’s MPs for accepting the loans, saying they are selfish.

Last month, Chamisa claimed that the ZANU PF-led government was bribing CCC officials to destabilise the opposition party ahead of the 2023 elections. He said:

Anything that is valuable is bound to be betrayed or sold out. Economic circumstances are not for the lily-livered and the weak-kneed. Some are very sensitive to poverty and this economic environment has been very harsh.

Some would go for farms, nice cars, cattle, (and) coupons, while others will betray their birthright for a mere bowl of soup.

What is the birthright? Freedom, democracy, success and prosperity, the transformation of our country, good governance, citizen dignity — they will surrender those for their personal benefits.

But we learn from the best. (The late MDC leader) Morgan Tsvangirai never betrayed Zimbabwe.

However, CCC has not publicly stated its position on the issue of the loans, and reports suggest that only Harare North MP, Allan Norman “Rusty” Markham, has rejected the loan. | NewsDay

Robber Storms ZB Bank, Snatches US$100 000

By-An armed robber raided a ZB Bank Victoria Falls branch on Wednesday afternoon and got away with an undisclosed amount of money believed to be more than US$100 000.

The armed robber walked into the banking hall pretending to be a client and was wearing a wool hat and a face mask, the Chronicle reported.

Unsuspecting bank staff watched as the suspect pretended to be completing bank slips until other clients left and that is when he pulled out a gun.

The suspect then proceeded to the counter and threatened bank tellers with the gun, ordering everyone, to lie down and they complied.

It is said that the suspect demanded cash which he loaded into a satchel that he was carrying and walked out of the banking hall. A source told the Chronicle:

The suspect entered the banking hall as a client and was still inside when the bank closed. He threatened the security guard who gave in and he then went to the tills where pointed the gun and demanded cash which he loaded into a satchel and walked out through the back door.

The suspect reportedly walked away after leaving the bank premises and started running and people outside did not suspect anything until staff from the bank came out and reported that they had been robbed.

Pictures of the robbery incident started circulating on social media platforms after being captured on CCTV.

Ramaphosa Faces Chop

By- An independent panel probing President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala scandal has found a case against the South African head of state.

This was so despite Ramaphosa maintaining his innocence.

The section 89 panel of experts said that Ramaphosa may have committed serious violations of the law and serious misconduct in terms of the constitution.

“I have endeavoured, throughout my tenure as president, not only to abide by my oath but to set an example of respect for the constitution, for its institutions, for due process and the law.

“I categorically deny that I have violated this oath in any way, and I similarly deny that I am guilty of any of the allegations made against me,” said Ramaphosa, reiterating what he said in his submissions to the panel.
His office said it noted the report, which is due to be considered by a sitting of the national assembly on December 6, before it determines the way forward.
His spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said Ramaphosa was also applying his mind to the report and he would make an announcement in due course.
The section 89 panel findings may cause a headache for Ramaphosa when he appears before the last sitting of the National Council of Provinces to answer oral questions on Thursday afternoon.
A press briefing by Magwenya scheduled to take place on Thursday morning was cancelled following the release of the panel’s findings.
Political parties have in the meantime wasted no time baying for Ramaphosa’s blood, calling for him to step down.
National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula appointed former chief justice Sandile Ngcobo, judge Thokozile Masipa and advocate Mahlape Sello to the panel that conducted a preliminary assessment of the African Transformation Movement’s (ATM) motion of no confidence against Ramaphosa.
ATM leader Vuyo Zungula submitted a motion for the assembly to initiate an inquiry into Ramaphosa’s removal on the grounds of serious violation of the constitution or the law and serious misconduct over the theft of millions in foreign currency at his Phala Phala farm.
Zungula told TimesLIVE that the party feels “vindicated.”
“We feel vindicated and we hope that on Tuesday the members of parliament will vote to protect the constitution and the country because we can’t have a sitting head of state who has been found by an independent panel of judges that there is prima facie evidence that he has violated the constitution.” Timeove

Chinese Hospital’s VP Chiwenga Asks Nurses To Work In Zimbabwe

The Chinese Hospital patient Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has said Health workers must consider the needs of their nation before they look for opportunities elsewhere.

VP Constantino Chiwenga

The Health and Child Care Minister said this yesterday while officiating at the graduation ceremony at the school of nursing and midwifery at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital.

Govt would continue to prioritise the welfare of health personnel, but at the same time health professionals should consider the resources available.

Zimbabwe has some of the best trained medical personnel in the world and as a result has seen others, including first world countries, seeking to snap up these skilled staff.

This demand and subsequent migration has taken a heavy toll on the country’s health delivery.

Against this background, Government is now moving in to reward professionals to fend off international interest.

Yesterday’s graduation also saw Government honouring local surgeons and their supporting staff who participated in the successful separation of conjoined twins.

Their success has led to requests from other countries to have their citizens with the same conditions attended in Zimbabwe, a move that dovetails with the vision of medical tourism.

On behalf of President Mnangagwa, VP Chiwenga yesterday unveiled the Medal for Meritorious Service on the hospital and all staff that participated in the delicate separation of the twins.

A senior member of the anaesthetic team, Dr Samson Shumbairerwa, who passed on a few weeks ago was honoured posthumously.

“Human capital development is one of the national priority areas of the National Development Strategy 1,” said VP Chiwenga.

“Therefore, human capital development within the health sector is a vital component for the attainment of the other priority area in the NDS 1, that is, health and well-being.

“Strengthening health workers’ training programmes will, no doubt, play a major role in producing high-quality professional and ethical healthcare professionals.”

The training at the hospital has contributed to the provision of able nursing support in theatre and intensive care that saw the hospital twice, in 2014 and 2021, performing the ground breaking operations to separate conjoined twins at the paediatric hospital.

“You are all aware that the aforesaid surgical feat earned special recognition by the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency, Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa,” said VP Chiwenga.

“The President bestowed the Medal for Meritorious Service on the hospital which I have just unveiled today, in recognition of those who participated in that surgical operation.”

Government continued to improve the conditions of service for health personnel through momentary and non-monetary incentives as well as availing a conducive working environment for health staff.

“In the year 2023, the Ministry is focusing on the re-equipping and refurbishments of our hospitals,” said VP Chiwenga.

“The Ministry is instituting a host of interventions to improve the welfare of our healthcare staff.-state media

Ramaphosa Impeachment Imminent

Girls Come Out With Better Results Than Boys

Grade 7 examination results released by the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) yesterday produced a pass rate of 40,09 percent, marginally below the 41,13 percent of last year, but girls and their 43,66 percent pass rate did a lot better than boys with a 36,22 percent pass rate.
The reasons for the slight overall decline are still to be worked out, but could be partly due to the need for schools and pupils becoming familiar with the new continuous assessment programme. There were also more children writing the examination, about 5,4 percent more, and that could also affect results.

Speaking in Harare yesterday after the announcement of the 2022 Grade Seven public examination results, Zimsec board chair Professor Eddie Mwenje said the slight drop in pass rates was unexpected since there were far fewer disruptions this year, unlike the last two years of disruptions from Covid-19.

But he did not see the tiny fluctuation as significant.

“The reasons are sometimes very difficult to establish until you do a deep analysis of the results which we do normally just to advise the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education on certain aspects. Given that this year students received much more time for learning than in the previous year, they ought to have done better.”

Zimsec director Dr Lazarus Nembaware said continuous assessment learning activity (CALA) could be one of the factors.

“It could be other reasons, which we will look into but as of now, we also think that candidates are still settling in into the CALA component. This is the second year in which CALA has been part and parcel of the examination system so it could be that and we will look into those areas more critically after the release of these results,” he said.

Continuous assessment for part of the results forces pupils to be consistent throughout the year, rather than just swotting at the last moment, and so requires pupils to work steadily throughout the year, rather in surges.

But Zimsec recorded a higher number of candidates writing the exam that did so last year. “A total of 343 169 candidates sat for the 2022 Grade Seven examinations as compared to 325 573 candidates who sat for the same examinations in 2021, showing a 5,4 percent increase in candidature, that is an additional 17 596 candidates,” said Zimsec.

“Out of the 343 169 candidates who sat for the 2022 Grade Seven examinations, 177 466 were female while 165 703 were males. The pass rate for female candidates is 43,66 percent while that of male candidates stands at 36,22 percent. The results show that female candidates out performed their male counterparts.

“A total of 323 candidates with special need sat for a range of subjects from 5 to 6. Of these, 208 wrote 6 subjects while 91 candidates with hard-of-hearing sat for 5 subjects. The pass rate for the special needs candidates in 2022 was 30.43 percent as compared to 54.88 percent recorded in 2021.”

Zimsec advised that the collection of results from regional offices would start today while the online viewing platform was activated yesterday. Heads collect the results for their school from the Zimsec regional offices from today.

The link for online viewing is reached via the Zimsec website, www.zimsec.co.zw. The 2022 examination writing session was restored to the traditional times of October after the lifting of the Covid-19 restrictions which disrupted the school calendar for the past two years, said Zimsec.

Meanwhile, the examinations for the O-Level and A=Level ended this week with Zimsec saying marking was now set to begin. -state media

Buyanga Warrant of Arrest Restored

The High Court has set aside the cancellation of a warrant of arrest for South African based controversial businessperson Frank Sadiqi Buyanga.

High Court Judges Justices Pisirayi Kwenda and Benjamin Chikowero ruled that Taruvinga grossly misdirected in her judgement. —Newsday

Mnangagwa Too Evil To Preach Gospel Of Tolerance

According to Musengezi, Mnangagwa cannot speak about tolerance while butchering political foes.

What political tolerance is Mnangagwa talking about when Hon. Sikhala & Parere Kunyenzura are languishing in remand prison on political charges?
Opposing voices are being arbitrarily arrested, killed, beaten up, harassed & petrol bombed.

Sugar Intake And Oral Health

This was announced by the party in a brief statement on Tuesday.

USA Progress To Second Round

U.S. men’s national team coach Gregg Berhalter likened the squad’s last group match at the 2022 World Cup to a knockout game, and he wasn’t wrong.

It took every last second—including that in the nine minutes of second-half stoppage time—but the U.S. beat Iran in a match it had to win, riding Christian Pulisic’s 38th-minute goal to a 1–0 triumph and a second-place finish in Group B. England, a 3–0 winner over Wales, topped the group, meaning the Three Lions are set for a date with Group A runner-up Senegal. The U.S., meanwhile, will face the Netherlands on Saturday in what will actually be a knockout game.

Berhalter made two changes from the lineup that started against England on Friday, giving Cameron Carter-Vickers his World Cup debut in place of Walker Zimmerman, while Josh Sargent was restored to the XI after sitting vs. the Three Lions in favor of Haji Wright. Gio Reyna, whose lack of playing time has become a talking point surrounding this team, remained an option off the bench, but did not play. Carter-Vickers didn’t play at all in World Cup qualifying, and he had never partnered with the U.S.’s other center back, Tim Ream, before Tuesday.

Three of the U.S. starters (Weston McKennie, Sergiño Dest, Ream) were carrying yellow cards that they saw in the opener vs. Wales, but all remained unscathed from picking up a second, which would have resulted in a suspension for Saturday.

The U.S. avoided the worst imaginable start in the opening minute, after Iran won a free kick in the U.S. half. The curled-in service was cleared, but it also signaled how nerve-wracking an occasion this could be, each set piece an opportunity to secure the edge needed to tilt the scales.

The U.S. answered with an immediate counterattack spearheaded by Pulisic, but he took perhaps a touch too many instead of trying to find Sargent to his right, with Iran taking the ball off him and stopping the threat.- si.com

Lions Of Teranga Date Three Lions

Kalidou Koulibaly proved an unlikely matchwinner as Senegal reached the last 16 of the World Cup with a 2-1 victory over Ecuador, who are out of the tournament.

Senegal will now play the winners of Group B – the group which England currently top – on Sunday night.

The Chelsea defender’s superb volleyed winner came only two minutes after Moises Caicedo had pulled Ecuador level from a corner, a result which would have taken the South Americans through in their place.

The African side fully deserved to qualify from their World Cup group for the first time in 20 years, largely in part to a first-half performance where they blew away Ecuador, who came into the match knowing they only needed a point to progress.- Sky Sports
