Police Unwilling To Act On Moreblessing Ali Abduction

Tinashe Sambiri|Citizens’ Coalition for Change has accused the Zimbabwe Republic Police of failing to take a firm position on the abduction of Moreblessing Ali.

The ZRP has released a statement literally defending Zanu PF bosses implicated in the abduction of Moreblessing.

In a statement, CCC called for the immediate release of Moreblessing.

WE CONDEMN THE ENFORCED DISAPPEARANCE OF MOREBLESSING ALI

Ms Moreblessing Ali (47 years of age) is a strong member of the Citizens’ Coalition for Change who is a community leader in Ward 21, Chitungwiza North. She is the mother of two children and has been involved in various community-building activities.

On the night of the 24th of May 2022, it is reported by an eyewitness who knows Moreblessing Ali well that she was seized and forcibly shoved into a motor vehicle by Pius Jambo who is a member of Zanu PF. It is alleged that he is the half-brother of Simba Chisango, who is a Zanu PF leader in the Nyatsime area. They are both known for using violence and terror in the community.

Moreblessing Ali’s family was informed of the enforced disappearance on the 25th of May 2022 whereupon an official police report was made at Makoni Police Station by the CCC. The team that had been deployed to handle the police report and assist with investigations on behalf of the movement was subsequently referred to DisPol Mashonaland East where a further report was made under reference number 5048384.

On Saturday, the 28th of May 2022, a team of hundreds of citizens led by CCC MPs, councillors and community leaders conducted a search party for Moreblessing Ali throughout the Nyatsime area. Regrettably, the search was not successful. Continued contact with the Police has revealed that the chief suspect, Pius Jambo, is also on the run for other criminal offences. According to information in the possession of the CCC investigation team, Jambo is allegedly facing charges of murder and fraud. Today, further investigations have revealed that chief suspect, Jambo, is in hiding in Hurungwe.

A team has been dispatched to conduct a further search for him there while the investigation into the whereabouts of Moreblessing Ali continue.

We condemn the continued disregard of the rule of law by Zanu PF, the flagrant use of violence, the abuse of fundamental human rights and the escalation of political violence against our members.

Zanu PF has a long record of using enforced disappearances as a tool to spread terror with society. The insecurity and fear generated by these despicable acts is not limited to close relatives but also affects communities beyond that which is directly affected. The examples of Rai Dzamara, Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova, to mention a few, prove this beyond any doubt. Enforced disappearances have no place in a constitutional democracy.

We call for the Zimbabwe Republic Police to honour their constitutional mandate set out in section 219 of the Constitution to protect and secure the lives of all Zimbabweans and investigate this matter in a non-partisan manner. We call upon any person who has knowledge about the whereabouts of Moreblessing Ali to get in touch with Hon Godfrey Sithole (CCC) on 0774558997 or any leader of the CCC to ensure that Moreblessing Ali is found and returned safely to her family.

Police Justify Moreblessing’s Abduction

By Audrey Charowa |  Zimbabwe Republic Police released a statement on May 30th 2022 on the abduction of CCC activist, Moreblessing Ali in an effort to sully the victim’s good character and justify her victimisation. Glaringly missing from the statement is the lack of police effort to find the missing mother.

Moreblessing Ali (41) was abducted by Pius Jamba the brother of Simba Chisango. Chisango is known to be the local Zanu PF Chairman in the Nyatsime area of Chitungwiza where Moreblessing Ali is a passionate community organiser for the Citizens Coalition for Change.Ali
Moreblessing Ali is not just a mother and CCC member, but is also the sister to Washington Ali a member of the CCC branch in Southend-on-Sea, United Kingdom. Washington Ali is a juggernaut who does a fantastic job at mobilising resources and voters for the party through his various social media initiatives. It is due to his high profile in the CCC party and his effectiveness in garnering votes that we believe the enforced disappearance of Moreblessing Ali was a psychological revenge attack by ZANU-PF.

Victim Blaming
In the police statement below Zimbabwe Republic Police accuse the victim of the kidnapping, Moreblessing Ali, of having spent Pius Jamba’s money while the two were “involved” in a romantic relationship. This is a dog whistle to misogynistic elements who believe that spending money on women entitles men to a lifetime season ticket to women’s bodies. Yet according to friends of Moreblessing, who declined to be named for fear of violent reprisals by ZANU-PF, such a relationship only exists in the filthy minds of George Charamba or Nick Mangwana who are believed to have written the “police statement”. Moreblessing never dated Jamba according to the family. Also, suspect is the fact that Jamba is the same age as Moreblessing’s eldest son. This is a ploy to make the victim, Moreblessing Ali less sympathetic to the public. The allegation by the police that she took money from her much younger “lover” is meant to instill the belief that Moreblessing Ali is responsible for her own victimisation which is an utterly contemptible notion!Make it make sense!
In a departure from standard Police practice, Zimbabwe Republic Police in the statement, give the name of the witness who saw the abduction and was also a victim of assault by the kidnapper. In a country run as a mafia state by Emerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s ZANU-PF party, this is a clear signal to party miscreants to harm the witness. The police have endangered the life of the witness by this reckless reporting.

The statement about the abducted, Moreblessing Ali does not even contain contact details of the investigating team. Why? There is no solicitation of the public’s help in the investigation. The police know Jamba the kidnapper but have failed to inform the public of what this criminal looks like! As an investigation tool, the eyes of the public are the most important at getting quick results. So it beggars belief why aren’t the police sharing the suspect’s image? This cannot just be incompetence at play here.
It is extremely worrying that the police seem more interested in clearing the ZANU PF name than they are in finding the abducted mother. In their statement they claim that the kidnapper and known criminal Pius Jamba is not a member of ZANU PF. What this means is that the police prioritised checking the ZANU PF membership lists instead of trying to find the abducted political activist.

Why was that necessary?

This attack on the Ali and CCC family will not be forgiven in this lifetime or the next. We implore the kidnappers, police to return Moreblessing Ali to her family. Please call or WhatsApp We ask the public to be vigilant. To the Ali family we say “You are in our prayers. You have our love and support.”

We kindly ask the good people of Zimbabwe for assistance in locating Moreblessing Ali (41) who was abducted on 24 May 2022. If you know anything about Moreblessing Ali’s current whereabouts please contact the nearest police station or call/WhatsApp +263 77 455 8997 or +263 77 375 6658

Ayanda Mponda Finally Released

By A Correspondent- A 23 year old Harare woman arrested on allegations of smuggling sex toys (dildos) and selling some to schoolchildren was granted bail on Monday after spending 15 days in jail.

Ayanda Unity Mponda was released on ZWL$30 000 bail by High Court judge Justice Esther Muremba.

She was also ordered to report to the police twice weekly.

A magistrate had denied Mponda bail saying she was a danger to society. She was arrested on 15 May.

Mponda, who is represented by Harare lawyer Zorodzai Dumbura, denies charges she sold her toys to children.

She is being charged for violating provisions of the Customs and Excise Act and exposing children to pornographic material.

Economist Paints Gloomy Picture Of Zim Economy

By A Correspondent- Top economist Eddie Cross Monday gave a gloomy image of Zimbabwe’s battered economy but maintained dollarising it will destroy the country’s re-industrialisation drive.

Speaking to NewZimbabwe.com Monday, Cross said although the country’s inflation rate was “worryingly” on the increase, the much-preferred US dollar was not Zimbabwe’s solution to its economic crisis.

“We face very considerable difficulties at the moment, and I am afraid recent actions by government have not helped,” said Cross about President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s decision to temporarily suspend banks’ lending.

The government’s measure led to huge losses by business and worsened exchange rate disparities.

“The inflation continues to grow, very worryingly, very rapidly. The parallel marketing rate continues to depreciate, it is approaching ZW$500 now.

“I do not think we should dollarise. I will go the other way. We are not going to dollarise, it is government policy and I concur with that view.

“If you go to any of our neighbouring countries such as South Africa, the Rand is used, Zambia uses its Kwacha, in Botswana they use their Pula, and in Mozambique they use the Mozambican Metical. These countries use their own currencies and do not use the United States Dollar (USD).

“We need to use our own currency and that is the key to maintaining our productive sector. If we dollarise, we destroy our competitiveness,” Cross added.

His comments will however not be well received by civil servants who have been threatening to go on industrial action if government does not award them salaries in the more table US dollar.

Their Zimbabwe dollar wages have been eroded by massive inflation, with most of them getting about ZW$19 000, an equivalent of less than US$50 at the prevailing black-market rate.

Zimbabwe’s inflation stands at 244%, ahead of war-torn Ukraine and Syria; and on top of economist Steve Hanke’s global rankings.

Cross said Zimbabwe’s fundamentals supported the use of the Zimbabwe dollar, further referring to Finance Mthuli Ncube’s surplus.

Without clarifying, he blamed the current crisis on how the country was trading its foreign currency.

Said Cross:

“There is nothing wrong with the economy, the fundamentals are sound here, we have a balance payment surplus, we have a surplus in our budget accounts and there is no reason for the country to be in this situation.

“We are not trading our foreign currency properly, if we did so, Zimbabwe would be a different country quickly.”

Cross, a former MDC legislator, said time was up for the old and the young should now take over reigns of the economy as has happened in other developing countries.

“A lot of change is needed in the business sector, but it is to do with the young people.

“The main change I see in the business sector is terrific, I want the young generation to take control of the economy, It is their time. My time is finished.

“The new generation needs to stand up and take the lead. It happened in China and Rwanda and soon you will see the results.” Cross said.

ZESA Incurres Fresh Debt

By A Correspondent- Heavily indebted State power utility Zesa Holdings has incurred a fresh US$43,5 million debt under a public private partnerships (PPP) with one of its major customers, Dinson Iron and Steel Company (Disco).

Disco is a sister company to Afrochine, and is currently establishing a mega steel production and value-addition project in Manhize, Mvuma where its first steel production is expected in September 2023.

The new debt adds to the more than US$37 million legacy debt owed to the power utility by various entities.

Zesa’s indebtedness brings into question the issue of viability at a time when its going concern status has been questioned due to its ballooning debt.

Most of its operational costs are largely due to antiquated equipment. Latest reports state that Zesa owes creditors more than $15 billion.

During a signing ceremony for the facility which is under the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), Zesa’s energy distributing arm, ZETDC managing director Howard Choga said a transmission line would be set up from Kwekwe, Sherwood substation to Manhize in Chivu where Disco’s steel project is based.

“The project was approved by Cabinet a fortnight ago…in three years, Disco will require 500MW,” he said.

“I would like to assure the nation that we are up to the task,” Choga added.

Disco representative Wilfred Motsi said the powerline got the greenlight from environmental authorities after an impact assessment on the project was carried out. He also said the Lands ministry identified land to resettle farmers who may be affected by the powerline.

All the equipment for the project is already in place, Motsi said.

“It’s not just a key enabler for our project but a model that will benefit the Zimbabwean economy,” Motsi added.

Disco will require 40% of the power in the initial stages.

When fully operational, Disco’s project requires 500MW and is set to be the largest power-consuming project in the country which is generating just about 1  700MW.

Disco’s steel plant has capacity to produce more than 1,2 million tonnes of steel annually. Last year, Afrochine said the steel plant would sit on 2 000 hectares. This will comprise a 1,5km long and 600 metre wide processing plant and mines.

Altogether the operation will turn over at least US$1,5 billion per annum.

Afrochine, Zimbabwe’s largest chrome smelting operation is a subsidiary of Chinese conglomerate Tsingshan Holdings, which accounts for 25% of global steel production.-statemedia

Teacher Nabbed Over Copper Cables Theft

By A Correspondent- A teacher in Zaka District, Masvingo Province, is one of the four suspected members of a syndicate remanded in prison last week over copper cables theft.

Olivia Muchekeza, a teacher at Gumbu Primary School in Zaka, and her alleged accomplices were arrested on allegations of stealing 30.5kgs of four core armoured cables and 26.5kgs of copper rewinds.

Muchekeza’s lawyer Tafadzwa Mbwachena of Ruvengo Maboke and Partners argued that she was not part of the syndicate.

Mbwachena told magistrate Ritaiswe Silaigwana that Muchekeza only provided space for storage of the cables after being asked by the key suspect.

Muchekeza appeared in court last week on Wednesday and was remanded to 4 June 2022.

The State led by Tarisai Muvengi is opposing bail arguing that the charges faced by the four are serious and they could abscond if granted bail.

However, Mbwachena argued that Muchekeza was unlikely to abscond as she was gainfully employed as a teacher.

He also submitted that his client owns a house at number 16205 Gwara Street, Runyararo West and therefore has more to lose if she absconds.

Muchekeza’s co-accused are Fanuel Moyo, Kenneth Makotose and Bernad Mufanebadza.

Muvengi told the court that on 22 May 2022, police received a tip-off that the alleged syndicate was involved in copper theft.

Following investigations, police found the accused persons loading cables in a Toyota Honda Fit parked outside Muchekeza’s house.

Mbwachena is also representing the other three suspects and he made bail arguments for Moyo and Makotose and will make representations for Mufanebadza at a later stage.

Mbwachena submitted that Makotose, who is a taxi driver did not know anything about the alleged theft.

He said Makotose was only asked by Mufanebadza to provide transport for undisclosed luggage.

He further argued that Moyo who is employed as a security guard by Shynetime was called by Mufanebadza to assist in carrying the heavy sacks.

Mahachi, Wife Visit Hospitalised 4yr Old Son

By A Correspondent- Kudakwashe Mahachi, accompanied by his wife, Rose Tatenda Mahachi, finally visited his child at Mpilo Central Hospital on Sunday after his lawyers secured a court order.

The minor was admitted to the hospital on 19 April with third-degree burns.

Mahachi is alleged to have deliberately scalded his four-year-old son with hot water in South Africa before he smuggled him to Zimbabwe.

He denies the allegations and has engaged a law firm, Tanaka Law Chambers to clear his name.

In an interview with B-Metro, Mahachi’s lawyer, Nkosiyabo Sibanda, of Tanaka Law Chambers confirmed that his client visited his son. He said:

Yes, we went to Mpilo Hospital yesterday and father and son had a healthy conversation.

The child requested goodies from his father. That is all I can say for now.

Mahachi’s ex-wife, Maritha Ndlovu, who is the mother of the minor, confirmed that Mahaachi and his wife visited the child. She said:

He came with his wife after they produced a court order and the hospital allowed them to see the child.

I kept out of their way because the law has to be respected, but the visit traumatised my child because he was not comfortable and he cried throughout the night. Calming him was a struggle.

Mnangagwa Admits Parastatals Are Giving Him Headaches

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has admitted failing to bring sanity in parastatals that are crumbling due to gross mismanagement and corruption under his watch.

In his weekly column published in a State-run Sunday newspaper, Mnangagwa blasted parastatals which include the National Social Security Authority (Nssa) saying they were causing him “headaches” after a dossier exposing rot at the pension fund was delivered to him.

Mnangagwa castigated the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Praz) which he said was “fettering the very economy it is supposed to pep and grow” by upholding “senseless” rules.

He admitted that the State-run power utility Zesa was failing to meet demand for electricity, while he blamed Praz for “throttling” power projects.

“As I write Zesa is grappling with a long backlog for power demand,” Mnangagwa said.

“To make matters worse, this backlog includes new industrial and commercial projects long approved and waiting for power to come to stream. And the demand for power continues to grow by the day, including from foreign direct investment projects by which our attractiveness as an investment destination is judged. Certainly we lag behind this ever-burgeoning demand for power, which we should have long forecast to make matching investments on power generation,” he said, further pointing out that State enterprises lacked creative management and described them as a danger to the economy.

“Example three: We set up the National Social Security Authority. It is now a multi-million dollar behemoth. The other day I got a report indicating the number of workers paying subscriptions to Nssa continues to increase yearly, again showing our economy continues to grow and create more jobs. This is very good news for us and our nation. We are raising ourselves by our bootstraps, unaided and in spite of crippling sanctions. This is the true Zimbabwean spirit, encapsulated in our mantra nyika inovakwa nevene vayo. Yet more disturbing news comes from there. On the eve of my departure for Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Fund, I got a disheartening report pointing to corporate rot at Nssa. This is not the first time government got such disturbing reports; Nssa has been a thorn in our flesh, a pain that will not go away.”

Ironically, former Public Service minister Priscah Mupfumira’s alleged abuse of US$95 million Nssa funds is still before the courts, years after the case surfaced.

Recently, Mnangagwa claimed that he was being sabotaged by his enemies who were seeking to dislodge him from power in the 2023 elections.

Political analysts described Mnangagwa’s sentiments as “going for broke” as he tries to maintain political grip ahead of next year’s polls.

“We do not expect the President to be complaining over corruption,” analyst Vivid Gwede said.

“He is the one in charge. He should be acting against it.  He can’t be gloating over maladministration of parastatals. It is the citizens, the opposition that should be complaining over all those issues that he stated in his opinion piece. He should be driving policy. The opinion confirms speculation on the widening fissures within the ruling Zanu PF party. It’s a blame game. Instead of doing the good it is intended for. It only leaves people to speculate about who is in control.  These are tell-tale signs of a new development. Remember the late former President Robert Mugabe’s expose of the missing US$15 million diamond revenue, and the events that later took place.”

Another political analyst Eldred Masungure said: “The public sector has virtually collapsed due to poor management and corruption. Parastatals are potentially a big contributor to the fiscus, but there has been gross disappointment.  They used to contribute 60% to the gross domestic product, but now it is less than 10% which tells a long story on the demise of the parastatal. Whatever motivated his (Mnangagwa) statement is well directed and is overdue. He should have done that long back. The President is famous for rhetoric. I am not sure whether this is not just a fury signifying little. We hope that he will act. He has belatedly realised the rot embedded in the parastatals. If he really wants to set things straight, it is commendable.”

The state media reports that Zanu PF Matabeleland North provincial chairman, Richard Moyo, confirmed receiving a letter from Mrs Sibanda.

“Yes I received a letter from Honourable Sibanda’s wife Memory requesting to join the ruling party, Zanu PF.

‘Corrupt Leaders Must Face The Music’: A Call for Accountability in the Face of Rampant Corruption

By A Correspondent| Prominent political activist Kudzanai Cannicious Nemaunga has issued a strongly worded critique of the government, citing its ongoing failure to effectively address the deteriorating economic situation in Zimbabwe.

The continued economic instability in the country, he argues, is a direct consequence of the government’s inability or unwillingness to hold those involved in corruption scandals accountable.

Nemaunga pointed to several high-profile corruption scandals as evidence of the government’s lax attitude towards curbing corruption. Among these were the infamous ‘draxgate’ and ‘covidgate’ scandals that shook the nation, with vast sums of money allegedly siphoned off by individuals with strong ties to the ruling party.

Despite the widespread media attention these cases have garnered, there has been a glaring lack of action on the part of the government to arrest and prosecute those implicated.

“It’s disheartening to see such blatant theft of public funds,” Nemaunga lamented. “We read about individuals brazenly pilfering money from government coffers and yet, we see no arrests. Cases like the Draxgate, Covidgate, and the Gwanda solar project, are but a few examples of this rampant corruption. The question begs, why the inertia in holding these individuals accountable?”

Furthermore, Nemaunga stressed that many of those implicated in corruption scandals have demonstrable connections with President Emmerson Mnangagwa, suggesting a troubling degree of complicity or at least negligence at the highest level of government. “When we see photographs of these individuals standing side by side with Mnangagwa within the walls of the State House, we can’t help but question if there is tacit endorsement of their corrupt activities at play,” he added.

Nemaunga’s critique extended to the ruling Zanu PF party, whom he holds responsible for enabling corrupt leaders to maintain control. He emphasized the need for the party to enforce accountability among its ranks, arguing that this is an essential step towards improving the living conditions of ordinary Zimbabweans.

“Those holding the reins of power are all part of a political party, and that party must be held accountable,” Nemaunga explained. “If Zanu PF is genuinely committed to uplifting the lives of Zimbabweans, it needs to take a hard stance against its leaders who seem to disregard their duty to the public.”

A report by the Zimbabwe Independent further underscores Nemaunga’s concerns. Despite receiving funding to the tune of US$33 million, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has yet to secure a single conviction, casting doubt on the agency’s commitment to fighting corruption in the country.

Terrence Maoneke, a respected political commentator, highlighted the negative impact of ZACC’s inefficacy on the country’s anti-corruption efforts. The failure of ZACC to secure convictions not only undermines its credibility but also reflects poorly on the country’s leadership, particularly President Mnangagwa who is the appointing authority for the Commission.

“ZACC’s inability to successfully prosecute these cases is a reflection of the country’s leadership,” Maoneke stated. “The President, as the appointing authority, cannot escape scrutiny. While the independence of ZACC is crucial, their ongoing failure to convict a single individual, despite the rampant corruption, will invariably reflect negatively on the President. His administration will ultimately be remembered for its failure to effectively address the pervasive corruption that has gripped the country.”

The call for government accountability and a tougher stance against corruption has never been more urgent in Zimbabwe.

As echoed by Nemaunga and Maoneke, it is high time for thosein power to demonstrate a genuine commitment to eradicating corruption in all its forms. The political will to tackle corruption head-on is not just essential for restoring public trust but is also a crucial step towards economic recovery and prosperity.

The alarming level of corruption in Zimbabwe, as exemplified by the Draxgate, Covidgate, and the Gwanda solar project scandals, has provoked national and international outrage. The fact that those implicated in these scandals are linked to the highest levels of government, including President Mnangagwa himself, has further fueled public skepticism about the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

The ruling Zanu PF party is also under intense scrutiny, with critics accusing it of enabling corruption by failing to hold its leaders accountable. The party’s apparent indifference to the dire living conditions of ordinary Zimbabweans, exacerbated by economic instability and widespread corruption, has further undermined its credibility.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) is facing serious questions about its efficacy and commitment to fighting corruption. Despite being allocated substantial funding, the commission’s inability to secure a single conviction raises doubts about its operational effectiveness and the seriousness of the country’s leadership in combating corruption.

The role of the country’s leadership, particularly President Mnangagwa, in addressing corruption cannot be overstated. As the appointing authority for ZACC, the President’s failure to ensure the commission’s effectiveness in prosecuting corruption cases sends a troubling message about his administration’s commitment to eradicating corruption. It is crucial for the President to take decisive action against corruption, not only to restore public trust but also to pave the way for economic recovery.

In the face of these formidable challenges, the voices calling for accountability and transparency in Zimbabwe’s government are growing louder and more insistent. It is clear that the status quo is untenable, and a concerted effort must be made to tackle corruption at all levels of government. The future of Zimbabwe depends on it.

Hero Status For Another Mugabe Coup Junta

By-President Emmerson Mnangagwa has conferred national hero status on the late Major General Godfrey Chanakira following further consultations.

In a statement, the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda, said Major General Chanakira was declared a national hero after further consultation and has since been granted a State-assisted funeral.

Burial arrangements for Chanakira will be announced in due course.

Dr Sibanda added that President Mnangagwa also conferred provincial hero status to Christopher Kuruneri, while Chief Denis Ndlovu Nhlamba of Garanyemba area in Gwanda was granted a State-assisted funeral.

Kuruneri, a former Finance Minister and Zanu PF legislator for Mount Darwin East, died in South Africa at the weekend, while Chief Nhlamba passed on at the United Bulawayo Hospitals on Saturday.

President Mnangagwa also conferred provincial hero status to Francis Komboni Gondo and Charles Savanhu.

Meanwhile, Vice President General Dr Constantino Chiwenga will represent President Mnangagwa at the funeral of the late Chief Nhlamba.

Mwonzora Sanitises Zanu PF Pomona Corruption

By- The Douglas Mwonzora led MDC-T councillor and acting Harare Mayor Stewart Mutizwa has authenticated the condemned Pomona dumpsite project.

Mutizwa was part of a Zanu PF government delegation led by the Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa, who toured the Pomona dumpsite on Monday.

“The way this deal is structured will see the council paying its equity of US$22 000 a year, but the energy deal will benefit government and the city on a profit-based arrangement,” Mutizwa told reporters at the site.

The dump deal will prejudice the capital city and residents of millions of dollars.

Kasukuwere Bro Faces Arrest

Warrant of arrests have been issued for Local Government minister Savior Kasukuwere’s younger brother Stanley and his wife Martha Batsirai Bakare, after failing to appear in court to answer to allegations of duping Zanu PF member Tongai Matutu of US$35 000 in a botched land deal.

Kasukuwere (46) and Bakare (36) were supposed to appear before Harare magistrate Shane Kubonera. Their names were called three times in and outside the court by the court orderly to no avail.

Allegations are that sometime in February 2021, Matutu was referred to the accused persons by a friend, Arnold Batirai who had told him that the couple was selling an undeveloped residential stand situated at number 73C Carrick Creagh of section 4, Borrowdale Estate, measuring 2 030 square metres.

On February 1, 2021, Matutu allegedly went to view the stand in the company of Kasukuwere’s personal assistant, Caroline Tembo.

“The stand is a subdivision of a certain piece of land situated in the district of Salisbury called stand number 73 Carrick Creagh of section, Borrowdale Estate measuring 6947m² held under deed number 6376/2018 dated October 31, 2018,” the court documents read.

Matutu was asked to pay an asking price of US$45 000 for the stand, but negotiated with Tembo to lower the price to US$40 000 and agreed.

It is alleged that on February 13, 2021, an agreement of sale was drafted with the accused persons being the sellers and he went on to pay US$35 000 for the stand and promised to pay the balance of US$5 000 upon transfer of the property.

Kasukuwere and his wife acknowledged receipt of cash and signed the documents.

Sometime in April 2021, the complainant carried out due diligence on the property and found out that it was at the centre of an ownership wrangle at the High Court under HC 10839/18.

The accused persons had allegedly misrepresented to the complainant that they were the lawful owners of the stand. Facts showed that their deed number 6376/18 had been cancelled by the High Court on January 16, 2019 and was no longer valid.

Matutu engaged the accused persons, who acknowledged that they made a mistake and promised to refund him. He made frantic efforts to recover the money, to no avail after the accused persons became evasive, and were no longer reachable prompting him to make a police report. – Herald

Police ‘Delete’ Evidence ZANU PF Chair Is Kidnapper’s Own Brother

The Zim police was yesterday criticised for failing to disclose that the alleged kidnapper of the missing CCC activist, Moreblessing Ali, is the brother to the co accused Simba Chisango.

Chisango is a ZANU PF Chairperson in the Nyatsime area.

Police also claimed the victim is an ex girlfriend of the abductor’s,  allegations denied by the family. The kidnapper is the age of Moreblessing Ali’s first born son.

The ZRP published the below report which was criticised far and wide and labeled a document released in order to cover up crime. Below is the statement-

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has taken note of various allegations and insinuations on the disappearance of Moreblessing All on 24th May 2022 at Chibhanguza Shopping Centre, Nyatsime in Beatrice.

Initial police investigations have revealed that on 24th May 2022, at 2030 hours, Moreblessing All and her friend Kirina Mayironi went to drink beer at Chibhanguza Shopping Centre. Moreblessing All was also in the company of her dog. At around 2100 hours, the two women were approached by Moreblessing Ali’s former boyfriend Pius Jamba who openly told Moreblessing All that her dog was irritating him. Moreblessing All ignored Pius Jamba who went on to pull a pair of catapult from his trousers’ pocket and tried to strike the dog but missed and struck Kirina Mayironi.
Kirina Mayironi ran into the club to seek refuge. Pius Jamba then had a scuffle with Moreblessing All and dragged her into darkness . The two disappeared. All this was clearly observed by Kirina Mayironi who later went home in company of Washington Mutsviri.

On 25th May 2022, Kirina Mayironi made a report of assault against Pius Jamba and another concerning the disappearance of Moreblessing Ali and her ex-boyfriend Pius Jamba.

Police investigations have also established that Pius Jamba is not a member of any political party as alleged by some social media activists and politicians. Currently there is no evidence to show that Simba Chisango is also linked to the disappearance of Moreblessing Ali or the scuffle which occurred at Chibhanguza Shopping Centre.

Police inquiries have also shown that Pius Jamba was accusing Moreblessing Ali of dumping him after he had spent a lot of money on her during their love affair.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges the public and political activists to allow the current investigations to proceed smoothly without trying to take advantage of the differences between Moreblessing Ali and Pius Jamba to settle political scores or gain mileage.

The Police is working flat out to locate Moreblessing Ali and Pius Jamba. :A6ilscgk,

Marriage Law Authorising Cheating Enacted

The new Marriages Act became law on Friday, a piece of legislation that brings all marriage laws together, makes all marriages equal and finally provides a way to transform a registered customary union into a civil marriage, while making it clear that child marriages are totally banned with those arranging or solemnising such marriages facing five years in jail.

The Act had a rough passage through Parliament over the issue of lobola, which will now for practical purposes need to be paid in solemnised customary unions where the district custom has this, but possibly not in unregistered customary unions that are later registered without solemnisation.

But eventually a formula for lobola was found, the Act passed both Houses and has been assented to by President Mnangagwa and gazetted as law on Friday last week.

Lobola has never been a factor in civil law and church law marriages and such marriages remain a valid option for anyone not wanting to pay lobola

All marriages in Zimbabwe are now equal, with a single register of marriages maintained by a single Registrar of Marriages. But there are distinct differences between civil marriages and customary marriages, the main one being that a customary marriage is potentially polygamous with different ways of solemnising these marriages.

Besides the two types of marriage, there is a civil partnership. This is the informal living together of a couple in a genuine domestic basis but without any marriage whatsoever.

This determines the rights and obligations of the couple, and especially the new Act makes it clear, any property or assets acquired during the partnership will be distributed in the same way that property is distributed when a married couple divorces, using the same law.

In all marriages and civil partnerships, both partners have to be aged 18 or over and there has to be explicit agreement by both partners. Underage marriages and forced marriages see those involved, except the child or the forced partner, facing criminal charges and jail terms of up to five years.

The Act goes into some detail on marriages and potential marriages or near marriages to ensure that the age and active consent rules apply in anything that vaguely resembles a marriage.

The partners in all marriages whatsoever have equal rights and obligations both during the subsistence of the marriage and at any dissolution. This is being backed by amendments to the Child Protection Act which will make it clear that both parents have equal rights when it comes to children. This journey to full legal equality has taken some time in almost all cultures.

While there is no change, except the age limit, in the law governing civil law marriages, the law on registering or solemnising customary unions has undergone a major revision so that these are now solemnised by magistrates or the local chief, rather than the district administrators, and a monogamous couple in a customary marriage can convert this into a civil marriage if they wish, pulling down the colonial brick wall between the two types of marriages.

Even unregistered customary unions, a very common way of getting married in Zimbabwe, now have to be registered within three months of the creation of the union if the couple does not wish to go through the solemnisation process before a magistrate or chief.

Failure to register the union though does not affect the validity of the marriage at customary law with regard to the status, guardianship, custody and succession rights of children of the union.

The main result of all these changes should see major practical and conceptual changes in how Zimbabweans get married. In colonial times people were locked into either a customary marriage, that had to be registered at the office of the native or district commissioner, or the civil law marriage, registered when the marriage ceremony took place.

After independence, most couples actually wanted to be married under both customary law and civil law. Because of the rigid divide, the custom grew up of having a customary marriage first, but not registering this, and then having the civil law marriage later, but registering that one.

Now even unregistered customary unions have to be registered, although they should be solemnised before a magistrate or a chief, but those in a monogamous customary marriage can later contract a civil law marriage, and so people can now have the double ceremonies under the two types of marriage laws.

While magistrates are automatically marriage officers, chiefs become marriage officers for customary marriages in the district where they hold office and, as at present, ministers of religion can be licensed to be marriage officers for civil law marriages, where the law is very similar to most church laws so there is no conflict.-Herald

Govt Blocks Chamisa’s DSTV Channel

GOVERNMENT has said no political party will be given a broadcasting licence in Zimbabwe as the sector is a national security threat, amid manoeuvres from the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) to launch a channel on DStv.
The Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) is the sole issuer of broadcasting licences and MultiChoice, as a legally licensed broadcaster will not be an accomplice to an illegal channel which contravenes the Zimbabwean laws.

According to the BAZ Act, Part IV, Section 20, no political party or organisation shall hold or have control of any broadcasting licence or signal carrier licence.

In an interview, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Deputy Minister, Kindness Paradza said the Government’s policy was not to issue broadcasting licences to political parties.

“MultiChoice is licenced and they are aware of the rules and regulations governing broadcasting in Zimbabwe so they will not be an accomplice to an illegal or pirate channel. We are sure MultiChoice will not be persuaded to carry an illegal channel on its platform.

So far, our policy is not to issue broadcasting licences to political parties considering this is a finite national asset which cannot be issued out willy nilly. We have many political parties in this country, so if we are to give licences to all of them, our allocated spectrum will be full and we will not have any space left for future generations.

So simply put it’s a no. Even the ruling party Zanu-PF has not been issued with a broadcasting licence,” said Deputy Minister Paradza.

“It must be noted that broadcasting is a national security threat if abused like what happened in Rwanda in 1994, when its radio was used to incite genocide against the Tutsis. As a responsible Government, we want to guard against that and protect our people from an unscrupulous and unpatriotic section in our society,” added the Deputy Minister.

On Tuesday last week, CCC secretary-general Mr Charlton Hwende, writing on Twitter, insinuated that his party was keen on launching a television channel ahead of elections next year.

“To launch a truly independent channel on DSTV Channel you need monthly fees of around $8 000. Let’s do it Zimbabwe we are left with only 12 months before the election, so we need $96 000 and we free the Airwaves,” wrote Mr Hwende.

Deputy Minister Paradza said according to the Electoral law, during the election period each political party is allocated free time on the national broadcaster to sell their ideas and manifestos.

“According to our Electoral law, during the election period, each political party is allocated free time on the national broadcaster, ZBCtv to sell their respective ideas and manifestos. They can also advertise. However, we noticed that during the last by-elections some of the contesting political parties, CCC, in particular, refused to take up their allocated free slots to sell their ideas on ZBC,” said Dep Minister Paradza. — Chronicle

Judge Who Freed Sikhala Stripped Of Mercedes Benz

Moves against the Judge who acquitted Zengeza MP Job Sikhala on charges of incitement of violence, Justice Erica Ndewere, to strip her of her govt granted mercedes benz, have reached an advanced stage.

Justice-Erica-Ndewere

Her employer, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has filed an urgent chamber application at the High Court to repossess a Mercedes Benz vehicle issued to former judge, Justice Erica Ndewere who was dismissed last year by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
In the court papers, Justice Ndewere is cited as the applicant seeking relief for the preservation order that a Mercedes Benz E300 registration number ADY4743 be kept and stored by the sheriff and that it should not be used in any way pending final determination of matter number HC 3117/22.

Justice Ndewere was removed from office on June 17 last year in terms of section 187(8) of the Constitution.

She had two vehicles allocated to her: a Land Rover Discovery 4 and Mercedes Benz E300.

Court papers state that she was allowed to purchase the Land Rover Discovery 4 on April 9 last year.

At the time of her removal from office, Justice Ndewere retained possession of Mercedes Benz E300. The vehicle is registered in the name of the Master of High Court, her former department.

However, on April 19 this year, JSC demanded that Justice Ndewere returns the vehicle, but she refused on the basis that she was entitled to purchase it.

The JSC told her that she no longer had the option to purchase it since she was not a sitting judge.

Justice Ndewere, who was represented by Beatrice Mtetwa, opposed the application, saying the JSC was not the owner of the vehicle arguing that the owner was the Office of the President and Cabinet.

“The applicant (JSC) does not administer the applicable conditions for motor vehicle scheme. The respondent (Justice Ndewere) is entitled to purchase the vehicle and, hence, must not return the vehicle. The fact that the respondent is no longer a sitting judge does not preclude her from exercising the right to purchase the vehicle. No demand of the vehicle had been made prior to April 19, 2022. The vehicle was damaged due to accident and further it is not licensed nor is it insured. She has not been using the vehicle for her private business since December 2020,” Mtetwa submitted.

But JSC submitted that they approached the court after Justice Ndewere refused to return the vehicle and High Court judge, Justice Samuel Deme then ruled: “The applicant is a statutory body established in terms of the Judicial Service Act. Thus, the vehicle in question qualifies to be public property as it is registered in the name of the applicant. Section 308(3) of the Constitution places an obligation upon the appropriate authorities to safeguard the public property of the entity concerned.”

He said it was the duty of everyone in control of public property to safeguard it and ensure that it is not lost, destroyed, damaged, misapplied or misused.

“The respondent averred that the vehicle got damaged through the accident which occurred in December 2020. The applicant’s counsel submitted that given that the vehicle is now damaged, the present application becomes even more urgent,” he ruled.

Justice Deme said JSC had, therefore, proved that there was a prima facie right to ownership of the vehicle and a reasonably arguable case under case number HC 3117/22 which deserves protection pending litigation.-Newsday

Mwonzora Authenticates Corruption Ridden Pomona Project

By- The Douglas Mwonzora led MDC-T councillor and acting Harare Mayor Stewart Mutizwa has authenticated the condemned Pomona dumpsite project.

Mutizwa was part of a Zanu PF government delegation led by the Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa, who toured the Pomona dumpsite on Monday.

“The way this deal is structured will see the council paying its equity of US$22 000 a year, but the energy deal will benefit government and the city on a profit-based arrangement,” Mutizwa told reporters at the site he said.

The dump deal will prejudice the capital city and residents of millions of dollars.

Chamisa To Feast On Zanu PF Divisions

By-The Nelson Chamisa led CCC has a great chance of feasting on the deepening divisions in Zanu PF in the next elections.

Zanu PF president Emmerson Mnangagwa at the weekend admitted that his party was being torn apart by divisions .

Mnangagwa said this would affecte the party’s performance in the 2023 general elections.

Addressing supporters while commissioning three boreholes in Glen View, Harare Mnangagwa blasted party members who he alleged were using money to get positions in the party.

The Presidential Borehole Drilling Scheme is being supported by Prevail International chief executive, Temper Tungwarara.

It will also be implemented in Chitungwiza as Zanu PF tries to woo urban votes ahead of general elections next year.
Mnangagwa said Zanu PF Harare provincial chairperson Goodwills Masimirembwa was struggling to contain factionalism in the province.
“Here in Harare, there is a lot of factionalism. Masimirembwa is struggling to contain factionalism in the province, and we don’t want that in the party. Zanu PF does not belong to individuals,” he said.
“If you want to be promoted, work hard and we don’t want people who use money to get positions in the party. We are also against land barons. If you are caught on the wrong side of the law, you will be arrested. We will continue to rule this country as we have two-thirds majority in Parliament and nothing will stop us from ruling this country.”
Currently, Zanu PF members are jostling for positions ahead of the 2023 elections.
The party’s women’s league members are also having a go at each other ahead of their conference next month.
In Buhera South, outspoken MP Joseph Chinotimba is feeling the heat after party supporters organised a demonstration to unseat him early this month, accusing him of denigrating Mnangagwa.
Chinotimba, who was a fervent supporter of the late former President Robert Mugabe, courted the ire of Zanu PF activists after a video leaked onto social media platforms in which he accused Mnangagwa of plotting to remove him from his constituency in favour of a local businessman, Ngonidzashe Mudekunye.
The demonstrations, however, fizzled out after police cordoned off the area and reports surfaced that Chinotimba had apologised to Mnangagwa.
Masimirembwa told NewsDay that factionalism would not be tolerated in the party.
“What his Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa said was very clear that factionalism will not be tolerated in the party, and we are going to ensure that it ends. We will move as a united party. Factionalism is going to be a thing of the past,” Masimirembwa said.
In his Saturday address, Mnangagwa also blasted some non-governmental organisations (NGOs) for “working with Western countries to destabilise the country”.
“We need to have food security in the country as you can see that we have initiated various government irrigation schemes. The second republic has brought a lot of changes in the country and we are creating employment for a lot of youths in various sectors,” he said.
“As a country, we are making sure that we have food security because we are constructing a lot of dams. You can never suppress our country because we are a united front. We are aware of NGOs that are being used by the Americans to destabilise the country.” Newsday

Top Zanu PF Official Pushes For Diaspora Vote

By-Zanu PF sympathiser and House of Assembly speaker Jacob Mudenda said the Constitution should be amended to allow people in the diaspora to vote.

He has become the first senior official in the ruling Zanu PF party to push that agenda as the party has previously said it will only consider allowing the citizens in the diaspora to vote if western powers remove the sanctions they imposed on Zimbabwe at the turn of the millennium.

Speaking while addressing legislators and other stakeholders at a workshop on the Electoral Amendment Bill in Kariba on Sunday, Mudenda said:

Amendments to the Electoral Act should clearly specify the procedures and mechanisms for registration and voting for citizens in the diaspora.

The regulatory body (Zec) can play a role through robust political voter education. However, ultimately the conduct of political parties themselves will determine a positive outcome because they wield an enormous influence on their supporters. Currently, there are no enforcement provisions on the code of conduct and the political parties continue to violate the code with impunity.

ZEC should be empowered through the Electoral Act to censure, or even disqualify political parties or candidates that act with impunity during the electoral processes. There is need to amend the Constitution to encapsulate the diaspora vote.

NewsDay further quotes Mudenda as expressing concern over the protection of the secrecy of the ballot.

He suggested:

a). the amendment to the law could include hashing of some fields like identity number, date of birth, and the voter’s address which should lead to the generation of scanned copies from the printed copy.

b). the closure of the voters roll should have reasonable timelines which should be provided for in the Electoral Law.

c). the withdrawal of contesting candidates – the law should provide for the timeframe regarding the withdrawal in relation to parliamentary and local authority elections.

d). the electoral law should define the scope of who qualifies for postal voting in a more elastic manner.

Meanwhile, ZESN has stated that about 83.52% of Zimbabweans are ignorant of the constituency delimitation exercise because Electoral Act provisions do not allow citizens’ participation.

Candidates chickened out from contesting Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa because she is very powerful and is close to Mnangagwa. They felt that contesting against her will be viewed as confronting number one (Mnangagwa).
Another source said Oppah Muchinguri had fielded candidates to contest against Mutsvangwa as they have ambitions to participate in the elections.
Muchinguri had reportedly fielded Pamela Razembe and Lucia Chitura who both failed to make it to the top four.

In Manicaland province, Alice Mutindori, who was the national women’s league political commissar, also failed to make it to the top four.
Other candidates, who made it included Ivy Mhlanga, Theresa Nyapokoto and Kerenia Chimuso.
In Harare province, Betty Kaseke reportedly clinched the number one slot, followed by former Women Affairs minister Nyasha Chikwinya.

Fourth Consecutive Loss For Caps United

Struggling Harare giants CAPS United’s woes continue after they succumbed to yet another defeat, when they went down 0-2 to Bulawayo Chiefs at Luveve Stadium yesterday.

This was the fifth loss on the trott for Lloyd Chitembwe’s men.

They have not scored a goal since the fiasco which nearly led to the cancellation of their league match against Cranborne Bullets a more than a month ago.

Yesterday’s game against was at some point hanging in the balance, as Makepekepe players refused to travel to the City of Kings citing outstanding salaries.

A source at the club revealed that the Farai Jere-led administration had not paid April salaries.

Up next for them is the Harare derby against arch-rivals Dynamos.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

World No Tobacco Day Message

The harmful impact of the tobacco industry on the environment is vast and growing adding unnecessary pressure to our planet’s already scarce resources and fragile ecosystems.

Tobacco kills over 8 million people every year and destroys our environment, further harming human health, through the cultivation, production, distribution, consumption, and post-consumer waste.

Make the tobacco industry clean up their mess
The tobacco industry is making profit by destroying the environment and needs to be held accountable for the environmental destruction and made to pay for the waste and damages, including to recover the cost of collecting these wastes.

Tobacco growing, manufacturing and use poison our water, soil, beaches and city streets with chemicals, toxic waste, cigarette butts, including microplastics, and e-cigarette waste. Don’t fall for the tobacco industry’s attempt to try and distract from its environmental harms by greenwashing their products through donations to sustainability initiatives and reporting on environmental “standards” they often set themselves.

Governments and policy makers should support tobacco farmers to switch to alternative, more sustainable livelihoods to reduce the environmental impact of tobacco growing, curing and manufacturing while continue to implement tobacco control measures.

Mnangagwa Blamed For CCC Activist’s Abduction

Tinashe Sambiri|Citizens’ Coalition For Change Namibia has challenged Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration to release change champion Moreblessing Ali with immediate effect.

Ali was abducted by known Zanu PF hooligans in Chitungwiza last week.

Read statement below:

Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia demands the immediate freedom of the abducted Champion Moreblessing Ali.

30 May 2022.

Change champions in Namibia demand the immediate release of the severely tortured champion Moreblessing Ali who was attacked by ZanuPF thugs before they bundled her into their car. It is quite infuriating to witness perpetual state sponsored victimization of the alternative voices. What is perturbing is that the perpetrators of violence on our champion are known and they are walking scot free 5 days since they abducted her. We are understand that the ZanuPF Chairperson in Nyatsime is responsible for the assault and disappearance of our champion, Moreblessing Ali.

It is now imperative for all change champions across the globe to pent up their outrage demanding an abrupt end to ZanuPF sponsored abductions, arbitrary arrests, forced disappearances, gross abuse of the universal basic human freedoms and impunity. Everyone who subscribe to the Yellow Revolution and other progressive citizenry should aid us in demanding the freedom of our campatriot, an activist in the yellow revolution. A dedicated cadre determined to win Zimbabwe for complete change. We are appealing to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to discharge their duties professionally.

In addition to that, we lost Nyasha Zhambe in Gutu and before March by-elections, our change champion Mboneni Ncube was butchered in cold blood by ZanuPF machete wielders during our President’s address in KweKwe. May their dear revolutionary souls rest in power. In the recent by-elections, we witnessed a spate of state sponsored violence in Zengeza ward 7. Our change champion Councillor Lovemore Maiko was left half-dead after he was attacked in the head by bricks. The politically motivated violence was championed by the poor and empty headed ZanuPF thugs who are abused for only 3 or 4 bottles of Chibuku.

Our message is very clear, let’s all rise and demand the immediate release of Change Champion, Moreblessing Ali who was attacked by ZanuPF thugs in Nyatsime 5 days ago before they bundled her into their car. It has 5 full days since our leader was brutally assaulted for believing in the astute leadership of President Advocate Nelson Chamisa and his diligent yellow team. Zimbabwe needs comprehensive political, constitutional and electoral reforms ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections. The recent by-elections proved beyond any reasonable doubt that ZanuPF is unwilling to reform from its habit of silencing dissent through violence.

ZanuPF must bring back Moreblessing Ali, our change champion! It is not a crime to belong to the Yellow Revolution! It is her constitutional right to subscribe to any political party of her choice. Bring back Moreblessing Ali!

“Gukurahundi Victims Need Development, Not Painful Reminders”: Obert Mpofu

By A Correspondent- ZANU PF secretary for administration, Obert Mpofu has said victims of the Gukurahundi killings do need development, not a reminder of their painful history.

Gukurahundi is a term used to refer to killings in Matabeleland and Midlands in the 1980s which resulted in the death of an estimated 20 000 people.

It was carried out by the North Korean trained 5th Brigade which was an elite regiment of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces. Gukurahundi is derived from a Shona language term which loosely translates to “the early rain which washes away the chaff before the spring rains”.

The nation has so far failed to find an everlasting solution to the issue with the Unity Accord signed by Zimbabwe’s two major nationalist movements namely the Zimbabwe African People’s Union led by Joshua Nkomo and the Zimbabwe African National Union led by Robert Mugabe only managing the situation thus far.

Speaking in Jotsholo on Saturday, 28 May 2022 at the burial of a traditional leader, Chief Vusumuzi Khumalo Mabhikwa of Lupane, Mpofu said everyone talking about Gukurahundi was not a nation-builder. He said:

… abantu kabafuni ukuti babe lokuKhunjuzwa izinto ezibuhlungu bafuni intuthuko besiya phambili [people don’t want to be reminded of painful things, they want development going forward.]

Others say truth, justice and reconciliation is the only solution to the matter.

Acting PG Under ZACC Probe

By A Correspondent- Acting prosecutor general Nelson Mutsonziwa has been reported to  the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) by a Harare businessman on allegations of destroying a docket in a case involving a land dispute.

Mutsonziwa, who was the deputy public prosecutor (DPP) during the then attorney general (AG) Johannes Tomana’s term allegedly requested the docket in 2014, which is now missing from the registry.

Chemist Siziba had reported Harare fellow businessman Craig John William Danckwerts to the police after he sold 300 hectares of land to him before allegedly filing fraudulent forms at the Registrar of Deeds offices purporting to be still the owner of the land.

According to the police investigations after concluding the property transfer deal with Siziba, Danckwerts caused the businessman’s arrest after accusing him of stealing his property.

The land in question, located near Harare International Airport, is identified in court documents as Lots 4 and 5 of Arlington Estate measuring 200,0347 and 104,0809 hectares respectively.

The State alleges that sometime in December 1998, Siziba, through his firm Hawkhope Investments purchased the entire share capital of Danckwerts’ two firms trading as Nyland Enterprises and Great-Insight Investments.

Both firms fell under Danckwerts’ holding company Danbro Holdings.

On August 25, 1999, it is alleged Danckwerts alongside one Paul Rijk Peacey, resigned as directors of the two firms leading to Siziba, Margret Siziba and Bernadette Sekai Veteranwa assuming control of the two firms as the new directors.

However, sometime between 2011 and 2012, Danckwerts turned against Siziba, and caused his arrest after accusing him of stealing his firms.

But police investigations revealed that Danckwerts had allegedly submitted a fraudulent form to the Registrar of Companies between February 2011 and May 2012 purporting to be still a director of the firms at the centre of the controversy.

Danckwerts allegedly appointed former Mashonaland East Zanu-PF provincial chairperson Ray Kaukonde, Jeremy Brooke and one Samson as directors.

Kaukonde and Samson later resigned.

According to Siziba, Danckwerts was being represented by Mutsonziwa’s relative the late Arthur Mutsonziwa of Atherstone and Cook legal practitioners.

The matter also spilled into the High Court and all the records are still missing.

Siziba’s lawyer Munyaradzi Bwanya in a letter copied to the police commissioner general Godwin Matanga, Zacc, Special Anti-Corruption Unit, speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda, Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, chief Secretary to the president and Cabinet Misheck Sibanda chronicled the events leading to the docket disappearing from the registry.

It was alleged that when Danckwerts’s trial was about to kick off before magistrate Sandra Mupindu in 2014, one Mubhawana from the AGs office entered the courtroom requesting the docket on behalf of Mutsonziwa.

“We are also advised that you (Mutsonziwa), acting in your capacity as (Michael) Reza’s superior, personally requested that the docket be brought to you for review and the trial be temporarily stopped.

“This was advised to the court, the witnesses and the complainant at the time.

“Thereafter you summoned our client (Siziba) to your office and ordered him to withdraw the case against the accused (Danckwerts) and threatened to send him to prison,” Bwanya said in the letter.

“The docket has not been returned to Harare magistrates criminal court since March 2014 with the result that the criminal case against Danckwerts is effectively stayed without explanation, our client is left to wonder…”

“Your conduct naturally raises suspicions that you were in breach and continue to be in breach of your constitutional duties and in which case, your continued occupation of that office is not in the public or national interest.”

The lawyer said Mutsonziwa must avail the docket tomorrow before threatening to file criminal abuse of office charges.

Wife Of CCC MP Joins Zanu PF

By A Correspondent- The wife of Prince Dubeko Sibanda the CCC Binga North Member of Parliament Memory joined ZANU PF on Monday, day after the CCC leader Nelson Chamisa addressed a thank you rally in the district.

ZANU PF social media accounts flooded the internet with pictures of the welcome ceremony that was presided over by ZANU PF Hwange District Chair Cde Mathew Muleya  and attended by a host of party members.

Sibanda and his wife have been having been having marital issues which have dragged them to court.

In January Memory accused her husband of verbal and emotional abuse coupled with several threats of physical abuse.

The threats culminated in threats to kill her and his mother-in-law with an axe after the latter and their children had forced their way into the couple’s bedroom upon hearing her scream for help as Sibanda strangled her then picked an axe and threatened to axe her to death.

ED Worried Over Deep Rooted Factionalism In Zanu PF

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has admitted that the ruling Zanu-PF party is being ripped apart by deep-rooted divisions ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Addressing supporters while commissioning three boreholes in Glen View, Harare on Saturday, Mnangagwa blasted some individuals who he alleged were using money to get positions in the party.

The Presidential Borehole Drilling Scheme is being supported by Prevail International chief executive, Temper Tungwarara.

It will also be implemented in Chitungwiza as Zanu-PF tries to woo urban votes ahead of general elections next year.

Mnangagwa said Zanu-PF Harare provincial chairperson Goodwills Masimirembwa was struggling to contain factionalism in the province.

“Here in Harare, there is a lot of factionalism. Masimirembwa is struggling to contain factionalism in the province, and we don’t want that in the party. Zanu-PF does not belong to individuals,” he said.

Currently, Zanu-PF members are jostling for positions ahead of the 2023 elections.

The party’s women’s league members are also having a go at each other ahead of their conference next month.

In Buhera South, outspoken MP Joseph Chinotimba is feeling the heat after party supporters organised a demonstration to unseat him early this month, accusing him of denigrating Mnangagwa.

Chinotimba, who was a fervent supporter of the late former President Robert Mugabe, courted the ire of Zanu-PF activists after a video leaked onto social media platforms in which he accused Mnangagwa of plotting to remove him from his constituency in favour of a local businessman, Ngonidzashe Mudekunye.

Factionalism is going to be a thing of the past,” Masimirembwa
said.

In his Saturday address, Mnangagwa also blasted some non-governmental organisations (NGOs) for “working with Western countries to destabilise the country”.

“We need to have food security in the country as you can see that we have initiated various government irrigation schemes. The second republic has brought a lot of changes in the country and we are creating employment for a lot of youths in various sectors,” he
said.

“As a country, we are making sure that we have food security because we are constructing a lot of dams. You can never suppress our country because we are a united front. We are aware of NGOs that are being used by the Americans to destabilise the country.”

“The family is gratefully overwhelmed by the flood of heart-warming messages of condolence, support and love we are receiving from friends and family.”

“Allow Diaspora Vote”: Jacob Mudenda

By A Correspondent- Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda has said the Zimbabwean Constitution should be amended to allow people in the diaspora to vote.

Zim Youngsters Die In Polokwane Accident

A young Zimbabwean couple based in Cape Town, South Africa, and a friend died last week in an accident which occurred just outside Polokwane in South Africa’s Limpopo province.

The couple, Wendy Nyarota (23) and her husband Gabriel Gororo (27), were driving to their home in Cape Town from Zimbabwe when their vehicle went over a bridge in unclear circumstances.

Family members said Gororo was coming from Mt Darwin, where he had gone to pay outstanding lobola to his in-laws.

He left Zimbabwe on Friday May 20 after the lobola ceremony together with his brother Josiah (32), and stopped over in Masvingo to pick a friend before proceeding to the border.

It is said the friend was the one driving the car when the accident happened. He died on the spot, while Wendy and Gabriel died a few days later. Josiah is still in critical condition in hospital.

Wendy and Gabriel left behind a young child who had stayed behind in Cape Town.

Wendy’s uncle, former Daily News editor Geoff Nyarota, said the family was still in shock and grief over the loss of their loved ones.

“It is extremely painful when our young generation die in their quest for a meaningful existence in distant lands, when they should be living happily and holding good jobs in our own Zimbabwe,” he said.

Doves Body Mix-Up- Nyanga Man Finally Buried

By-After the remains of Maxwell Chimwamurombe, which had earlier been jointly buried with the body of a pauper following a mix up by Doves Funeral Services (DFS) 14 months ago, were finally interred at his rural home yesterday. The remains were initially buried at Granville Cemetery in Harare in a bizarre incident that shocked the nation.
Citing Covid-19 regulations which barred body viewing back then, the funeral service concern buried a coffin that was stuffed with body bags and plastics instead of Maxwell’s remains.
Yesterday, a sombre atmosphere engulfed Matoropito Village under Chief Katerere in Nyanga as mourners gathered to pay their last respects.
Friends and relatives sobbed when Doves Funeral Services finally delivered the correct remains confirmed through Deoxyribonucleic Acid tests (DNA).
Addressing mourners as her brother’s coffin was being lowered into the grave, the late Maxwell’s sister — Memory Chimwamurombe — who was the policyholder said: “Finally my brother is at peace, his spirit has rested, and it’s been a long journey. Whatever happened I will now leave it to God.”
Community leaders who spoke to The Sunday Mail said the funeral assurance company had disrespected them by not sending a representative to address mourners.
Matoropito Village Headman, Mr Joseph Chitambara, said the company had inflicted more pain on the community which expected the funeral services provider to shed light on the mistakes that caused the initial burial boob.
“We thought they would send someone to at least give a word of comfort to the bereaved family, instead they dispatched a driver. “Everyone here is not happy. As traditional leaders, we had issues we needed to iron out with them before burial.”
However, the Chimwamurombe family acknowledged that Doves Funeral Services provided the coffin and some of the food at the funeral. Family spokesperson Mr Adam Chimwamurombe said he was at peace that Maxwell could finally rest.
“We are glad that he can now finally rest, we have had challenges and some friction with Doves when we were trying to reach common ground.
“The negotiations took long, and after such an experience we just concluded that we needed to let our relative rest after one year and two months,” he said.
He said the family had cleared all outstanding issues with the funeral services company.
Doves Funeral Services spokesperson Mr Innocent Tshuma said the company remained apologetic to the Chimwamurombe family.
“This has been a very difficult time for the Chimwamurombe family. In the spirit of Ubuntu, as Doves, we pray the laying to rest of their loved one, Maxwell, will begin the process of closure and healing,” he said in a text message.
Maxwell drowned in the flooded Nyamombe River in Nyanga in March last year and his body could not be found for weeks.
When it was discovered, it was at an advanced state of decomposition and some of his body parts were scattered on the riverbank.
The remains were reportedly collected in a plastic bag and sent to Harare.
Strangely, the undertaker who was to take the body for burial left with the coffin only containing blankets and body bags.
Some workers at Doves Funeral Services later discovered their slip-up, but instead of informing the family, the funeral parlour buried Maxwell’s remains at Granville Cemetery in Harare, inside a coffin containing the body of a pauper.
Doves faces two counts of fraud . Investigations into the matter are understood to be still ongoing. Sunday Mail

Chamisa Pulls Thousands In Kwekwe

By- CCC president Nelson Chamisa has pulled thousands in Kwekwe.

Chamisa addressed a rally in Kwekwe on Sunday after his successful Binga rally.

In Kwekwe, Chamisa said they would defeat Zanu PF in next year’s elections despite the ruling party’s violent behaviour.

Posted CCC:

Unsurprisingly, the architects of violence, an expression of lack of political appeal, deployed a plethora of shenanigans, to intimidate citizens from attending the rally. Citizens defied & expressed the same bravery which saw CCC defeating ZanuPF in the past by-elections.

Zanu PF Thugs Butcher Chamisa Supporters

By- Suspected Zanu PF thugs have attacked three members of the CCC in Kwekwe.

CCC announced this on Twitter Sunday:

Three (3) people were injured after the Zanu PF thugs attacked our members soon after today’s Kwekwe victory celebration rally. We continue to condemn any violent behaviour by members of Zanu PF, particularly those from the Midlands province. The perpetrators must face justice

Soldiers Raid Maize Laden Trucks

By- The Zimbabwean government has deployed soldiers and other state security organs to raid and seize grain from individuals, farmers and other players even at roadblocks and deliver it to the Grain Marketing Board (GMB).

The Standard reports that Lands and Agriculture ministry permanent secretary John Bhasera last week raised concern over low deliveries to the GMB before calling on the parastatal to engage state security services to raid players suspected to be hoarding maize.

In a memo to the GMB chief executive officer Rockie Mutenha dated May 24, 2022, John Bhasera said only 5000 metric tonnes (MT) has been delivered to GMB out of an estimated 30 000 MT. Bhasera said:

You are, therefore, required to operationalise the provisions of Statutory Instrument (SI) 145/19 in order to prevent and avert the side marketing of grain with immediate effect.

This includes but is not limited to conducting grain busting operations at various non GMB depots, as well as the setting up of permit inspections at various points such as roadblocks.

You are also encouraged to ride on our partnerships with members of the Joint Operations Command in the execution of this important task.

The government gazetted SI 145 in 2019 banning the buying and selling of corn between private individuals and companies, making the GMB the sole buyer and seller of maize in the country.

Humanitarian agencies have warned that more than five million Zimbabweans may face starvation despite millions having been spent on command agriculture to boost security.

Zimbabwe needs an estimated 2.2 million tonnes of maize annually, with 1.8 million earmarked for human consumption.

Last week, the Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ) said it had purchased 400 000 tonnes of maize from Malawi and Zambia worth US$100 million in the wake of the poor harvests.

Binga A Totally Forgotten Area- President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri|Binga area has been neglected for decades by the Zanu regime, CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has said.

President Chamisa addressed thousands of CCC at the party’s victory celebration rally in Binga.

Binga community has atrocious roads, just like all rural areas in the country.

“BINGA IS SO UNDERDEVELOPED, FORGOTTEN & NEGLECTED.

The roads are vicious and bad.Just like all other rural areas in Zimbabwe..bad roads,no networks,no schools, no hospitals & poverty everywhere. But the people are loving.

The MPs are trying their best. My heart is just sore. Let’s fix it. A New Great ZIMBABWE loading,” President Chamisa wrote on Twitter.

CCC also posted on Twitter:

“Binga is one of the forgotten districts in the country despite its leading treasures in tourism & wildlife resources. The Change Champion in Chief

the local people’s lives through a Sustainable & Modernisation Agenda for Real Transformation.”

After Slapping SA With Sanctions, ZANU PF Asks AU To Demand Sanctions Removal

African Union chairperson and Senegalese President, Macky Sall has accepted ZANU PF demands to re blast the ZANU PF sanctions song.

Speaking in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, where he was attending two AU Extraordinary Summits, Sall spoke of the sanctions imposed on Emmerson Mnangagwa and his clique by Western nations.

He said the military arms embargo was worsening the economic and humanitarian situation in the country.

The AU Extraordinary Summits, which drew several participants from across the continent, including Zimbabwe, President Sall endorsed the regional and continental solidarity with Mnangagwa over sanctions.

The development comes as Emmerson Mnangagwa’s party ZANU PF announced a sanctions bill against South Africa it wants to raise USD10 Billion in compensation from the neighbouring country.  – Agency

Government Threatens To Block CCC DSTV Channel

The government of Zimbabwe has poured cold water on plans by the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) to initiate a DStv channel ahead of the 2023 polls.

NewsDay Zimbabwe reports quotes CCC secretary-general Chalton Hwende as lobbying citizens to launch an alternative television station on DStv, a Sub-Saharan Africa direct broadcast satellite service owned by MultiChoice. Hwende said during a Twitter space discussion:

To launch a truly independent channel on DStv channel you need monthly fees of around US$8 000.

“Let’s do it Zimbabwe — we are left with only 12 months before the election, and so we need US$96 000 and we free the airwaves.”

In response to Hwende’s remarks, Information ministry secretary Nick Mangwana there will be no channel. He said:

“Political parties can’t be given a broadcasting licence in Zimbabwe. The agreement with MultiChoice is that they can only carry licensed broadcasters in our jurisdiction. So guys the US$96 000 is your money, you can give it if you wish, but there will be no channel.”

Private media players in the country have been struggling to get broadcasting licences, while critics say those who got licences are sympathetic to the ruling ZANU PF party.

The CCC party, led by Nelson Chamisa has often accused the State media, particularly ZBC, of bias in favour of ZANU PF.

Section 155 of the Constitution compels State media to provide all political parties and candidates contesting an election fair and equal access to electronic and print media, both public and private.

Zanu PF political commissar Mike Bimha recently advised CCC to use social media to reach out to its supporters because ZBC was not the only campaign platform.

Lawyer Tawanda Mapuranga said although political parties were not allowed to run broadcasting stations, the government was obligated to ensure the independence of the public media.

The European Union election observer mission in 2018 urged the government to reform the State-owned media to fully guarantee their independence and impartiality to enhance the credibility of polls.- Pindula News/ Newsday Zimbabwe

Woman Brings Lover Home 3 Months After Hubby’s Death

A 43-year-old man from Bulawayo has threatened to evict his mother from the family home after she allegedly invited her alleged boyfriend to stay at the family house, three months after the death of his father.

Edrian Chiweshe was reportedly angered by what her mother, Chiedza Chiweshe, did and he wants her to move out of the family house in Montrose suburb.

Chiedza has since approached the Bulawayo Civil Court and sought a protection order against her son.

In her application, she demanded that Edrian should stop harassing her and interfering with her personal life. She said:

I am the applicant in this matter and the respondent is my son. We stay at the same place.

I am applying for a protection order against him. He is disturbing my peace.

Whenever he is drunk, he verbally abuses me and threatens me saying I should move out of the house because it belongs to his late father.

He shouts at me saying I once stayed with a boyfriend at the house which he does not like.

May the honourable court grant me a protection order so that my son stops verbally, and emotionally abusing me and threatening me and also not interfere with my personal life since I am his mother.

She said her son wanted her to go and stay with her sister in Mutare.

In response, Edrian accused his mother of insincerity. He said:

I am opposed to her accusations that I shout at her when I am drunk.

She is the one who provokes me and starts shouting at me.

When my father passed away within three months, she had another man whom she started staying with at the house and this is a period in which she was supposed to be mourning.

He, however, admitted that he shouts at his mother at times, but that happens when she starts shouting at him.

His mother refuted Edrian’s claims and said he should be ashamed that she was buying him food, a whole 43-year-old man.

She added:
I don’t dispute that I had a boyfriend but it’s not true that I started dating him soon after the death of his father and again it’s not true that I was staying with him at the house since he had his own house.

In her ruling, magistrate Nomasiko Ndlovu ordered Edrian not to verbally and emotionally abuse his mother or threaten her in any way.

Real Madrid Are Champions Of Europe!

Brazilian wonderkid Vinicius Junior scored the only goal of the game just before the hour mark, as Real Madrid beat Liverpool to lift their 14th Champions League title in Paris last night.

Carlo Ancelotti’s charges, despite their history in Europe’s premier club competition, were somehow regarded as the ‘underdogs’ heading into the decider.

Goalkeeper Thibaut Curtois produced an unbelievable display in goal for Los Blancos to deny Liverpool on many occasions and was deservedly named man of the match.

Build up to the game was dominated by Mohamed Salah’s ‘revenge’ remarks after the Egyptian ace got injured in the final between the two sides in Kiev in 2018, which Madrid went on to win 3-1.

Salah said as soon as it was confirmed that Liverpool would play Madrid, that he had ‘a score to settle’ but the former Roma man has now lost the Afcon final, World Cup play and now the Champions League final, in what is surely a season to forget.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was disappointed after the game and said his charges deserved more from it.

“After the game when I saw the stats it was 50-50 possession. We had a lot more shots, a lot more shots on target, but the most decisive stat is absolutely on Madrid’s side. Just to make sure that nobody thinks I wouldn’t congratulate Real Madrid, I do that now but I [also] congratulated everybody present and involved outside personally,” he said.

“They scored a goal, we didn’t, that’s the easiest explanation in the world of football and it’s hard, harsh to get anyway, [but we] respect that of course. When the goalkeeper is Man of the Match then something is going wrong for the other team, so we had I think three really big chances where Courtois made incredible saves. I would have loved to have had a few more of this calibre,” added the German.

Klopp’s Real Madrid counterpart Carlo Ancelotti, who became the first coach to win the Champions League four times, described Curtois’ performance as unbelievable.

“Trust me, I can’t believe what Thibaut Courtois did tonight, guys. Unbelievable,” said Ancelotti.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Stigmatisation Due To Disease Unacceptable

20 May 2022 Statement Geneva Reading time: 1 min (288 words)

WHO and partners are working to better understand the extent and cause of an outbreak of monkeypox. The virus is endemic in some animal populations in a number of countries, leading to occasional outbreaks among local people and travelers. The recent outbreaks reported across 11 countries so far are atypical, as they are occurring in non-endemic countries.

There are about 80 confirmed cases so far, and 50 pending investigations. More cases are likely to be reported as surveillance expands.

WHO is working with the affected countries and others to expand disease surveillance to find and support people who may be affected, and to provide guidance on how to manage the disease.

We continue to convene meetings of experts and technical advisory groups (such as the meeting today of the Strategic & Technical Advisory Group on Infectious Hazards with Pandemic and Epidemic Potential [STAG-IH]) to share information on the disease and response strategies.

WHO continues to receive updates on the status of ongoing outbreaks in endemic countries.

Monkeypox spreads differently from COVID-19. WHO encourages people to stay informed from reliable sources, such as national health authorities, on the extent of the outbreak in their community (if any), symptoms and prevention.

As monkeypox spreads through close contact, the response should focus on the people affected and their close contacts. People who closely interact with someone who is infectious are at greater risk for infection: this includes health workers, household members and sexual partners.

Stigmatizing groups of people because of a disease is never acceptable. It can be a barrier to ending an outbreak as it may prevent people from seeking care, and lead to undetected spread.

As the situation is evolving, WHO will continue to provide updates we learn more.

New Regulations To Operationalise Gvt Directive For Trading On ZSE

By A Correspondent- Treasury has promulgated new regulations to operationalise the Government’s directive on tighter conditions for the trading of stocks on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE).

The government recently said it had identified loopholes in sub-systems of the ZSE believed to be part of activities fuelling parallel market activities.

The Chronicle reports that deficiencies in the systems allowed clients to sell shares and transfer the proceeds to third parties for speculative trading in forex.

Finance and Economic Development Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube, issued Statutory Instrument (SI) 103A last week to operationalise policy measures to stymie speculative trading in the market, especially in the equities and currency markets. The SI reads:

Where a holder of a securities dealer’s licence receives funds in his or her trust account from a person (“non-client”) who is not registered with him or her as a client, the holder shall (whether or not the identity of the non-client is known to him or her) immediately report that fact to—the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) and the relevant exchange.

In accordance with the instructions of the FIU— retain the funds pending forfeiture proceedings if the FIU informs the holder that there is a reasonable suspicion that the funds represent the proceeds of a serious offence as defined in the Money Laundering & Proceeds of Crime [Chapter 9:24]

Or return the funds to the non-client if the FIU informs the holder that there is no such suspicion as is mentioned in sub-paragraph (ii).

A holder of a securities dealer’s licence shall not transfer funds from one trading account to another (whether or not such funds are routed through the holder’s trust account, and whether or not the holder is instructed by any of his or her registered clients to do so), unless the transfer is to a trading account belonging to the same registered client

The move is aimed at clipping rogue brokers that were allegedly involved in third-party funding of accounts.

The new regulations also:

a). require that whenever money deposited in the trust account of a holder of a securities dealer’s licence becomes payable to any registered client, the holder shall pay the money within the trading and payment times prescribed by the relevant authority to the registered client entitled to it and to not any other person.

b). reviewed capital gains tax on shares held for a period not exceeding 270 days to 4 percent in line with the individual maximum marginal tax rate for Pay as You Earn (PAYE). It was previously pegged at 2 per cent and was seen as not deterrent enough to discourage speculative trading in shares.

c). maintained capital gains tax at 2 per cent for long term investors beyond 270 days.

“ED Vows To Deal With Land Barons”. Fact Or Utter Nonsense?

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has vowed to deal with land barons who have been illegally parcelling residential and business stands to members of the public.

The issue of land barons has been topical for years with reports saying they get protection from political elites who will be using the barons to solicit votes during elections.

Over the years, hundreds of families were left homeless after local government authorities razed down their houses that were allegedly built on undesignated sites or built on land that had been illegally acquired while some had not been approved by authorities.

The desperate home seekers lose both their hard-earned money and the land they would have bought.

Speaking while addressing residents of Glenview 3, a suburb in Harare, the president condemned land barons assuring residents that no one is above the law adding that those running illegal housing cooperatives will be brought to book.
