Amnesty International Condemns Violation Of Human Rights In Zim

Tinashe Sambiri|Leading human rights watchdog, Amnesty International has expressed concern at the persecution of perceived government opponents by Mr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s administration.

Mr Mnangagwa’s human rights record is punctuated by torture, abduction and murder of opposition activists.

See below an article published by NewsDay:

GLOBAL human rights watchdog Amnesty International (AI) has accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration of gross human rights abuses, with human rights defenders, activists and journalists being the main target.

The AI report came shortly after Freedom House also painted a gloomy picture of the country’s human rights record.

In a report released recently, AI said ruling Zanu PF party supporters were the main perpetrators.

“The human rights situation continues to deteriorate with the government demonstrating hostility to human rights defenders, protesters, political activists and journalists.”

“They were harassed, arrested, prosecuted and subjected to prolonged pre-trial detention; one activist was killed allegedly by Zanu PF, the ruling party. Public hospitals remained underfunded and poor healthcare infrastructure put women and girls’ health at risk. Many people were at risk of becoming stateless,” the report read.

AI also said the government failed to support vulnerable communities during the COVID-19-induced lockdown periods.

“The cost of living increased and the government failed to meet its target to provide one million people with social protection and discontinued its COVID-19 social welfare packages during the third wave from June to August 2021.”

Analysts, who spoke to NewsDay, said the human rights abuses were likely to continue as the country headed for the 2023 harmonised elections.

But Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa rubbished the AI report saying it was premised on a regime change agenda.

“Their euro-centric reports and pronouncements are inevitably and invariably opinionated, biased and prejudiced. With the war-induced mayhem ravaging Ukraine, one would think they have enough on their hands in Europe. Where are they getting the time and effort to meddle with peace-loving Zimbabwe?” Mutsvangwa said.

Man Goes 2yrs Without Paying Rent

A tenant in Northend, Bulawayo is allegedly refusing to vacate the house and has reportedly gone for a year and half without paying rentals.
The tenant, Mr Brian Chitsungo, was taken to court by relatives of the owner of the house after they had issued him with an eviction notice, which the family says he did not honour.

The matter is still pending.

According to Mr Zwelithini Malinga, who has the power of attorney over the property: “Mr Chitsungo did not have a healthy relationship with Mrs Susan Magaramombe (mother to the owner of the house).

“He would tell her not to put pressure on him to pay rent and at times exchange harsh words with her.”

He said that the tenant wanted to do things his own way at the house.

“There was a time when the roof was leaking, Mr Chitsungo contacted us, we instructed someone to go over and fix it, however, the person might have delayed.

“This resulted in the tenant getting it fixed at his own expense and sending us a receipt for the costs stating that we should pay him as soon as possible without fail,” added Mr Malinga.

He noted that from November 2020 up to end of March, Mr Chitsungo has never paid rent and efforts to remove him from the house have been in vain.

“Mr Chitsungo said we can take him to any court in Bulawayo, he is not scared.

He is not cooperating, we have tried to have civil dialogue with him but it has been fruitless, and he has also put other tenants inside the house as well,” he added.

Commenting on the allegations of refusing to vacate the house, Mr Chitsungo denied them and said: “I have stayed in that house for 10 years and the problem started when my property was damaged by the rains last year.

They refused to pay me back and I do not owe them anything.”

He said he was not given any notice and only heard about it when they wanted to do an arbitrary eviction on him and have been giving excuses while not producing proof. -Sunday News

Mwonzora’s Last Hour

NEWLY elected Bulawayo councillors belonging to the Citizens Coalition for Change are reportedly pushing for the ouster of the city’s mayor Councillor Solomon Mguni and Town Clerk, Mr Christopher Dube.
The councillors recently held a caucus at their provincial party offices, which was chaired by former deputy mayor, Mr Tinashe Kambarami and former Bulawayo Senator, Matson Hlalo, who sources have revealed that is eyeing a comeback as the party’s provincial chairperson.

Mr Kambarami is not a sitting councillor as he was also recalled by the MDC-T, from representing ward three.

He is, however, challenging his recall in the courts which meant the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission could not go ahead with by-elections in the said ward.

Eight councillors from the CCC won the by-elections that were held on 26 March, namely Clr Edwin Ndlovu (Ward 8), Clr Donaldson Mabuto (Ward 9), Alderman Lilian Mlilo (Ward 12), Clr Concilia Mlalazi (Ward 18), Clr Christopher Dube (Ward 19), Ald Earnest Rafomoyo (Ward 20), Clr Tinevimbo Maposa (Ward 21) and Clr Mpumelelo Moyo (Ward 26).

CCC sources have since revealed that the caucus took place at the party offices before a mini-celebration party at a leisure spot in Fourwinds, which was also attended by Ward Two councillor Joyce Ndlovu, who was voted into office under an MDC-T ticket.

“The caucus took place on Wednesday, chaired by Kambarami and Senator Hlalo and among other things it was agreed that they push for the ouster of the Mayor and the Town Clerk. This will be done through a motion of no-confidence against the duo.

“However, the possible hold up was the issue of raising the numbers since they are a minority. Kambarami chaired the caucus and he made it clear that the councillors’ mandate was to get rid of Clr Mguni and also reverse a number of policies, including the parking management system contract,” said the source.

However, the party’s caucus secretary, Clr Mabuto refuted the allegations, instead revealing that theirs was all about unity and advancing the aspirations of the city’s residents.

“We had a meeting, that I can confirm, but I cannot say it was a caucus, it was more of a celebration meeting by the eight winning councillors and other party members.

Further, I must dismiss the speculation that is going around that we want to oust the mayor or deputy or town clerk, that is not true, we are not going to council to cause a turmoil.

“All that we are focusing on is pushing for development and creating a reconnect between council and the residents.

We also want to raise pertinent questions on issues such as the parking management system tender, our colleagues should give us answers on this issue,” said Clr Mabuto.

Mr Kambarami, while confirming that the caucus took place, said their aim was to congratulate the newly elected councillors and also give them direction on how they will conduct council business once they are sworn into office.

“The meeting was mainly to congratulate the councillors who won under the party ticket.

As a new party we were also giving them direction on how they will conduct council business going forward considering that they are just a minority within the council chambers.

Further, we deliberated on the issue of the parking management system which is causing a lot of tension in the city and how they are going to handle it,” said Mr Kambarami.

He refuted allegations that they were pushing for the ouster of Clr Mguni and Mr Dube, claiming the matter was never discussed.

During his tenure as Deputy Mayor, Mr Kambarami made headlines when he made moves to oust Mr Dube from office while Clr Mguni was away in South Africa. The move was, however, reversed.

Massive COVID Vaccine Backlog

Zimbabwe is battling against time to administer over 14 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines that are already in its stocks amid concerns of public complacency and hesitancy, it has been established.

There are fears the vaccines might expire before use or become less effective as they draw closer to their best-by date.

The government on March 20 launched a Covid-19 vaccination blitz that includes jabbing children aged 12 and above to revive the faltering inoculation campaign after targets to vaccinate at least 70% of the population in order to reach herd immunity by December 2021 were missed.

In March last year, Zimbabwe set targets to vaccinate 60% of its population of nearly 16 million—translating to herd immunity—to halt the spread of the coronavirus and re-open an economy that has been battered by two years of lockdown restrictions.

The threshold was later reviewed upwards to 70% by the World Health Organisation (WHO) by mid-2022.

Governments in Africa, including in Zimbabwe, have been struggling to roll out the Covid-19 vaccination programme due to logistical problems, hesitancy that is largely blamed on lack of information and misinformation as well as complacency.

Investigations by The Standard in collaboration with the Information Development Trust (IDT), a non-profit organisation that supports journalists to investigate issues of corruption in the public sector and bad governance, showed that Zimbabwe has received 22.4 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines since March 2020, but had only used eight million of the jabs at the beginning of this month.

The investigations involved tracking vaccination rates and delivery of Covid-19 vaccines since the first batch of 200 000 doses was received on February 15, 2021.

Zimbabwe mainly bought Sinopharm and Sinovac Covid-19 vaccines from China in addition to regular donations from Beijing as we reported from the time the vaccine rollouts began.

The country also received the same type of vaccines from the WHO’s Covax facility. It also received donations from India’s Covaxin and Russia’s Sputnik.

Less than 2% of all received doses have been donated.

The rest have been procured using domestic funding, which means the country has devoted significant amounts of its health budget to Covid-19 vaccination.

Zimbabwe’s vaccines uptake has remained low compared to the doses in its stockpiles, data from the Health and Child Care ministry shows.

According to the ministry’s situational reports, on March 13, Zimbabwe’s first dose vaccine coverage was 45% of the target population and 29% of the total population.

About 35% of the target population was fully vaccinated or had received two doses.

Medical experts said the fact that Zimbabwe had only managed to administer eight million doses of the Covid-19 vaccines in one year meant that exhausting 14 million doses would be a tall order.

Some countries in Africa are being forced to dispose of their Covid-19 vaccines after they expired without being used.

In Nigeria up to one million Covid-19 doses are estimated to have expired without being used in December last year.

South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo last year had to send some of their Covid-19 vaccine doses back to manufacturers because they could not distribute them in time.

Namibia last year warned that it may have to destroy thousands of expired doses due to a low uptake.

Zimbabwe, despite being a beneficiary of donated vaccines, handed 50 000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccines to Botswana in February this year and donated another 20 000 doses to Namibia.

Agnes Mahomva, the national coordinator on government’s response to Covid-19, said the vaccine donations were done because of Zimbabwe’s good relations with other countries when asked if this was meant to get rid of doses that were close to expiry.

“Zimbabwe has very good relationships with its neighbours and some have struggled to get vaccines,” Mahomva said. “It is, therefore, only strategic to help them.”

She said it was unlikely that the vaccines that were already in stock would expire before use.

“Remember access to vaccines needs to be for everyone in order to end this pandemic,” Mahomva added.

“Most of our vaccines expire at the end of 2023 and that is the end of next year.”

Johannes Marisa, the Medical and Dental Private Health Practitioners of Zimbabwe Association president, said ordinarily vaccine manufacturers do not indicate expiry dates on their products, but it was common knowledge in the medical field that vaccines lose their potency a year after being produced.

Zimbabwe’s last vaccine deliveries were received in September 2021.

“(Not indicating expiry dates) is done for security reasons on the part of manufacturers, but we rightfully know that after 12 months, the vaccines lose their potency,” Marisa said.

“So you cannot keep a vaccine for more than 12 months. So ideally, we must try to limit the shelf life of vaccines.”

Mahomva said the government had come up with a new strategy to increase the uptake of Covid-19 vaccines to reach the WHO targets to vaccinate 70% of the population by mid-year.

She said Zimbabwe’s Covid-19 vaccination programme was one of the strongest programmes in Africa.

“The country has, however, had its fair share of vaccine uptake challenges,” Mahomva said.

“This is despite the fact that the country has plenty of vaccines in stock.

“Uptake challenges are mostly associated with low-risk perception, misinformation and access issues.

“The country, therefore, recently went through a re-planning process and put in place additional vaccination strategies to address identified challenges.”

She said innovative approaches, including outreach services and targeted vaccination messages for key community groups, will be used in order to address the challenges.

“The main aim of the campaign is to ramp up the vaccination coverage in order to reach 70% of the total population by end of July 2022 in line with the WHO’s new global target of 70% total population coverage by mid-2022,” she said.

“The campaign is in collaboration with all stakeholders including community and church leaders.”

She said additional vaccine doses had been procured and paid for and were awaiting delivery once the government gives a green light to the manufacturers.

Itai Rusike, director of the Community Working Group on Health, said instead of donating vaccines, Zimbabwe must be pushing for a higher uptake to effectively fight the pandemic.

“Instead of donating our vaccines to other countries, Zimbabwe needs to come up with innovative communication strategies in order to increase vaccine uptake and accelerate towards achieving the required herd immunity of vaccinating at least 70% of the population of about 13 million Zimbabweans,” he said. Primary And Secondary Syphilis

SYPHILIS

Syphilis is caused by bacteria known as Treponema pallidum.

This disease can affect all organs of the body. It occures in two forms – early and late.

Early syphilis includes primary and secondary syphilis.

Late syphilis includes nervous system syphilis, cardiovascular syphilis and gummatous syphilis.

Besides these is latent syphilis when there are no symptoms or signs of syphilis, but blood test for syphilis are positive.

Signs and symptoms
Primary syphilis:

-The ulcer may appear anywhere on the genitals.

  • In males often the ulcer is on the glans p*nis.
-In females the ulcer could be in the vagina on the valva or the perineum or perinal skin.
  • The inguinal lymph nodes are enlarged.
    Secondary syphilis
-A generalised rash which is non itchy may appear all over the body. -The rash is spotted and elevated.
  • There may be sores inside the mouth and generalised lymph nodes enlargement.

Late syphilis
Neurological syphilis

  • meningitis
  • general paresis of the insane
  • tables dorsalis.

Cardiovascular syphilis

  • aortic aneurysm
  • aortic valve disease.
  • coronary artery disease.

Gummatous syphilis

  • chronic slowly healing ulcers with scarring.
  • deep seated lumps.

Ulcers of primary syphilis are painless firm sores and can appear anywhere on the body.

Ulcers may heal without treatment. Usually there are enlarged inguinal lymph nodes also.
The rash of the secondary syphilis is non itchy, generalised maculopapular rash.

There is usually generalised lympadenopathy and there may be sores in the mouth. All system s can be affected in secondary syphilis.

Bus Crashes Into Elephant, Free Meat-Fest In Vic Falls

It is rare for those who witness road accidents to smile, but hundreds of villagers near Victoria Falls yesterday had a bus accident to thank after they walked away with chunks of meat after three elephants were killed in the accident.

Elephant killed by bus

However, all 18 passengers and the bus crew were not injured after the CAG Travellers bus they were travelling in rammed into a herd of elephants about 35km outside Victoria Falls, killing three jumbos on the spot.

The accident occurred just after 5am near Mbizha turn off along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road.

Witnesses commended the bus driver, Mr Daniel Mapfumo, for managing to control the bus and avoiding hitting trees in the process, as the bus stopped on the side of the road about 50 metres from where the carcasses were.

Villagers skin elephants that were hit by a CAG Travellers bus yesterday

The news crew visited the accident scene and found scores of villagers from nearby Masikili and Mbizha villages, as well as some from as far as Lupinyu (about 20km away), some from Victoria Falls City, Chikandakubi and Chenamisa already gathered waiting to share the meat.

Some came on bicycles, cars and scotch carts while some boarded public transport from Victoria Falls and police were kept busy controlling the crowd.

Villagers were already skinning the elephants with Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority rangers and police monitoring the situation. The crowd kept swelling and by 11am, there were more than 100 people gathered.

The news crew observed tyre marks showing that the driver applied breaks before swerving to the left to avoid a herd of elephants that had “suddenly” appeared on the road, and then back to the road narrowly missing a tree which is just three metres from the edge of the road, and then to the point when he hit the elephants.

The three carcasses were lying next to each other on the left side of the road.

“I suddenly saw the elephants and applied breaks while swerving to the left.

There were three groups so as I avoided the first, I saw another herd ahead. The three were in the middle of the road and suddenly they turned at once, giving their back to the bus and they were hit at once,” said the driver, Mr Mapfumo.

A witness Mr Arnold Sibanda who was driving behind the bus when the accident occurred, commended Mr Mapfumo’s driving skills.

“It was early in the morning because the bus left Victoria Falls at 5am.

This is a crossing area for elephants and he encountered a large group that was crossing to the direction of the community.

The driver tried to avoid the first herd by swerving to the left.

He narrowly missed a tree and he redirected the bus back to the road,, but there was another herd that was in the middle of the road as it was crossing.

He tried to avoid hitting the second herd, but there was no chance.

The bus hit the three elephants, but the driver worked hard to save lives and controlling the bus until it stopped.

I was driving at 90km per hour behind the bus which means it was traveling at almost the same speed,” said Mr Sibanda.

Village head for Masikili Village one, Mr Lowani George Moyo said while the accident was unfortunate, villagers were happy to get the meat.

Nonetheless, Zanu-PF Hwange District Coordinating Committee chair Cde Matthew Muleya urged drivers to exercise caution especially when driving along the Victoria Falls-Bulawayo road because of the presence of wildlife.

“Animals cross from the national park to communities so drivers should be cautious so that we save lives.

These buses travel at night and we urge them not to speed on this road,” he said.

Passengers were switched to another bus and proceeded with their journey. Police could not immediately comment on the accident. Sunday News

Full Text : Zimbabwe Council Of Churches Report On By-elections

The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) has expressed concern over the manner in which the 26 March by-elections were conducted.

In its report titled “Ecumenical Election Observation Preliminary Findings on the 26 March 2022 By-elections”, ZCC noted that some opposition parties were barred from holding campaign rallies, while ZEC failed to handle the voters’ roll properly. Read the report:

The Church noted that the political playing field remained unequal for political parties. Frequent suppression of some opposition parties was observed during the pre-election period.

The Church is concerned about this selective application of the law as it undermines confidence in Law Enforcement Institutions.

Some opposition political parties faced challenges in holding their campaign rallies across the country, as the police would either deny their applications or accept them with stiff restrictions or conditions, which would not apply to other political parties.

ZEC’s handling of the voter’s roll raised a lot of concerns before and during the elections.

ZCC also noted that in Kwekwe, Mbizo Constituency, Ward 1 Mbizo Youth Centre Polling Station, a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party agent was assaulted by an unidentified man.

There were also cases of assisted voters in all wards, notably, the 21 youths who were assisted voters at Ward 4 Matione Primary School in Chipinge.

ZCC said there was an increase in the number of returned voters due to a lack of identity documents (IDs), missing names and misspelt names on the voters’ roll.

Despite acknowledging positive strides made by ZEC in areas such as voter registration and gender sensitivity, ZCC said there is still room for improvement in the areas of voters’ roll management, polling station accessibility by PWDs and elderly voters.- VOA

Human Rights Watchdog Raises Red Flag Over ED Opponents Persecution

By A Correspondent- Leading human rights watchdog, Amnesty International has expressed concern at the persecution of perceived government opponents by Mr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s administration.

Churches Concerned Over March By Elections

Mwonzora’s MDC T Reduced To A Toddler

These recently held by-election have grossly exposed President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s created official opposition which he tried to install without following an electoral process.

By Leonard Koni- The gross manipulation by Zanu PF to destroy what the people have endured to built is now on public domain. The people have rejected Zanu-PF’s puppet masquaranding as the official opposition party in Zimbabwe.

Now the Zimbabwe’s smaller opposition party MDC-T/MDC Alliance led by Mr Douglas Mwonzora has received a rude awakening and performed dismally  in these last held critical by-elections which he ironically caused by recalling members of parliament and councillors.

Mwonzora and Zanu PF previously laughed at Nelson Chamisa calling him a cry baby who was partyless and without any place to conduct his business from. They forgot to realise that Chamisa is a crowd puller.

Mwonzora started showing signs and symptoms of political sterile and menopause in 2020. His MDC-T party is going extinct as it got a single digit across the country.

However there were some voters from MDC-T who caused voter apathy and remained neutral. They did not bother to cast their vote and felt duped and conned by the likes of Mwonzora, Komichi and Mudzuri into believing that they were a strong political outfit. Come 2023 they will vote for Citizens Coalition for Change.

What an appetiser it was? This election has also been used as a barometer to measure the performance of two  political parties Citizens Coalition for Change and Zanu-PF readiness in 2023 harmonised elections.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission will again be tested whether they will be ready to produce a free and fair election.

Zanu-PF wanted to sweep all these by elections to prove a point that Emmerson Mnangagwa is the best foot forward  but this has worsened and dented his chances of winning in next year’s harmonised elections. Zanu-PF is slowly being dismantled.

This is time to have a minute of silence in remembrance of the former labour party MDC- T which gave sleepless nights to Zanu PF for the past 22 years. It was born on the 1st of September 1999 and buried on Saturday 26 March 2022.

This was a pride of many democratic Zimbabweans but died a painful and shameful death after being sold to a poor aging revolutionary party.

Zim Woman Dies In Oman

By A Correspondent- A human trafficking victim Margret Kachasu, from Zimbabwe, died on Wednesday in Muscat, Oman after succumbing to cervical cancer.

The Zimbabwe Trafficking in Persons Advocacy (ZTIPA) chairperson Tabeth Masiyiwa confirmed the death of 40-year-old Kachasu who was a domestic worker for Saif Alhabsi. She said:

Margret succumbed to cervical cancer. Four days before her death she was requesting to be taken back home but unfortunately her employer could not fund the trip as he claimed that he had exhausted all his money on medical bills.

She reportedly bled profusely. The employer didn’t know it was due to cancer till she could not work.

Alhabsi told NewsDay Zimbabwe that they did not have any problem with Kachasu. Alhabsi said:

When we wanted to take her home she refused. Four days ago she started saying I want to go back home but the money was finished when we took her to the hospital.

We didn’t have any problem with her, she could do her job properly. But for the past two weeks she became seriously ill.

The deceased’s brother Collin Kachasu told NewsDay that efforts were being made to repatriate the body from Oman.

He said:

We went to the Foreign Affairs ministry and presented our case. We are now waiting for a response from my relatives who are currently working in Oman. They said they were going to speak to Zimbabwe’s consular.

Recently government revealed that it was working on rescuing over 18 citizens who said they were being subjected to slavery by their employers.

Mugabe Started Zim’s Political Patronage

By Nomusa Garikai- There will be no meaningful economic recovery as long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state ruled by corrupt and incompetent thugs who rig elections to stay in power. Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reminded us all (for the umpteenth time) of this political and economic reality at the conclusion of the Board’s Article IV Consultation with Zimbabwe on 21 March 2022.

“IMF reports have repeated calls on the need for inclusive growth and sincerity in reengaging the international community,” commented Victor Bhoroma in an article in Bulawayo 24.

“Other areas of concern include the need for coordination between fiscal, foreign-exchange and monetary policies to guarantee market stability. Structural reforms aimed at improving the business climate (streamlining taxation, exchange control and trade policies) and curbing corruption through prosecuting high-profile cases remain key to Zimbabwe’s path to stability.

“In February 2020, IMF warned that Zimbabwe’s reform agenda was off track and the government needed to urgently address governance and corruption challenges, entrenched vested interests, and improve enforcement of the rule of law to improve the business climate and support private sector led inclusive growth.”

President Mnangagwa’s political power base, like that of Robert Mugabe before him, is founded on political patronage, in which he, as the top dog dishes out wealth and power to those below him in return for their continued blind political support. Any meaningful political and economic reforms cannot be carried out without dismantling the patronage system. Dismantle the patronage system and Mnangagwa and Zanu PF will lose, overnight, their iron grip on power.

Zanu PF’s political patronage system dates back to 1980.

In a recent interview with Trevor Ncube, in Conversation With Trevor, Dr Simba Makoni revealed how within just a few months after independence in 1980 then Prime Minister Robert Mugabe surprised his ministers and deputy ministers by replacing their Ian Smith issued Peugeot 504 ministerial cars with Mercedes Benz limousines. The limousines had not been budgeted for none was the purchase ever discussed much less approved by cabinet. Of course, everyone was chuffed to bits with their limo!

The limo gift was followed by generous salaries and allowance for the chefs. Before long ministers and deputy ministers had three or four up market vehicles parked in the forecourt for their exclusive use.

Members of Parliament, senior officials in the civil service, Army, Police, Judiciary, parastatals, etc., etc. all received similar privileges. It was very common to hear of how parastatals like NRZ or ZESA was failing to pay its debts or the lowly paid workers’ wages and yet was spending millions of imported cars or other trappings of power for top managers.

What Mugabe did back in 1980 by buying the fleet of limos for his ministers and deputy ministers was to kick start Zimbabwe’s political patronage system; he bribed the cabinet with very expensive gifts and privileges and in return they gave him their blind loyalty. It is no exaggeration that Robert Mugabe enjoyed the status of a demigod whose word was the law, no one dared to question.

“Mose murivakadzi vaMugabe!” (You are all Mugabe’s subservient concubines!) scolded Margaret Dongo in sheer exasperation. She was talking about her fellow Zanu PF MPs and ministers’ repeated failure to challenge Robert Mugabe over anything, even on such serious matters as the 1983 to 1987 Gukurahundi massacre when the tyrant was clearly wrong.

Joice Mujuru was in Mugabe’s cabinet from 1980 and rose through the ranks to become VP in 2004 to 2014 when was she and a coterie of her supporters were booted out of the party. It was only she was no longer in the party that she dared to criticize Mugabe. “A puppy does not open its eyes the day it is born!” was her feeble explanation.

Of course, it was nonsense! Dotito (that is where Joice Mujuru comes from) dogs would have lifespans of hundreds of years if their puppies took 34 years just to open their eyes!

The Zanu PF political patronage system with its extravagant spending and waste was Zimbabwe’s economic undoing just as the blind loyalty to those in positions of power and authority marked the descend into totalitarianism and autocracy. By the end of the first decade of Zimbabwe’s independence the country’s economic decline was clear and undeniable.

So, in 1990 President Mugabe went, cap in hand, to IMF, WB and other financial institution begging for financial assistance. Zimbabwe signed the first of two five-year Economic Structural Adjustment Programme (ESAP) with IMF and WB in which the regime was given the financial assistance on condition it carried out economic and political reforms and dismantle its political patronage system.

“Everyone must tighten their belt!” argued Zimbabwe’s Minister of Finance throughout the ESAP years, Dr Bernard Chidzero.

Government reduced funding of public education, health care and many other areas affecting the ordinary people, forcing them to tighten their belts. The ruling elite continued to enjoy their expensive and wasteful lifestyles. They loosened their belts to accommodate the ever-growing potbellies!

President Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies’ appetite for absolute power and the good-life it brought has been insatiable. Even now with the national economic in total meltdown forcing millions of ordinary Zimbabweans to live in abject poverty; still Mnangagwa will not dare implement any reforms that would impinge in any way on the potbelly brigade’s political power and/or extravagant lifestyles.

IMF has called on Zimbabwe to implement meaningful economic and political reforms to arrest the country’s worsening economic meltdown and end the tragic human misery it has caused. Sadly, Mnangagwa has not listened fearful of losing power if implemented any reforms. It is high time every thinking Zimbabwean out there join in demanding meaningful economic and political reforms because the economic meltdown has pushed this nation of the edge of the precipitous abyss.

“It is evident that the government knows what needs to be done and what is lacking is the appetite and political will to reform,” concluded Victor Bhoroma.

Of course, Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies knows they must dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship, they lack the appetite and political will to reform because they don’t care about the tragic human suffering the dictatorship has cause. We, the Zimbabweans, have done nothing to stop Zanu PF destroy the nation’s economy and with it our hopes, dreams and our future. It is incumbent on all Zimbabweans to make sure all meaningful economic and political reforms are implemented before it is too late, before Zanu PF drags the nation over the edge into the abyss!

Marry Chiwenga’s Family In Agony As Own Daughter’s Health Deteriorates

By A Correspondent- The family of Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s estranged wife Marry Mubaiwa say they are in agony as the health of the former top model deteriorates at a time she is being denied her passport to seek medical attention outside the country.

Mubaiwa is admitted to a private hospital in Harare where her right hand is awaiting amputation, according to her lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa.

Mtetwa this week told magistrate Lazini Ncube that her client was admitted on Tuesday last week and diagnosed with a severe syndrome which is chronic.

According to a medical report by specialist trauma and orthopaedic surgeon John Nyahunzvi, Mubaiwa was on five-week post-revision surgery for a right humerus shaft refracture and her condition was critical.

The surgeon said her condition has necessitated hospitalisation and stabilisation with a plan for emergent right high above elbow amputation as soon a she is deemed medically stable.

But despite the need for emergency medical attention and surgery, the family said there is little they could do for her to travel out of the country since the courts were refusing to release her passport.

Businessman Kenny Mubaiwa, who is father to Marry, told The NewsHawks this week that under the circumstances, they have no other plan to ensure their ailing daughter is assisted and described the situation as painful.

“We would have wished to have her flown for treatment outside the country, but there is no plan as it stands because she doesn’t have a passport. If we had her passport, we would have tried something and see whether it works or not,” Mubaiwa said.

“She cannot do anything including going outside the country just like all the others who fall ill and fly out for medical attention, she is being denied that opportunity.

“She broke her arm on January 29 this year but they have tried an operation, nothing worked, they had to put something, again not working and it’s swollen and she is in pain.

“The operation was not successful and we would then need a second opinion and we are troubled on what to do next. She is in serious pain so I don’t know how we can be helped,” Mubaiwa said.

He would not be drawn into commenting on whether they had sought political help to have the issue resolved.

Marry has however previously told The NewsHawks that she has engaged President Emmerson Mnangagwa over the matter several times, to no avail.

Apart from being denied her passport, Marry has also told The NewsHawks that she has also failed to access money for medication from her accounts because of political intervention, resulting in her relying on her family for treatment.

Family sources said they felt helpless and could not confront Chiwenga over the matter, whom they believe is behind her persecution.

Marry is embroiled in a nasty divorce with Chiwenga and is also facing charges of attempting to kill the VP while he was hospitalised in a South African hospital.

She is also facing charges of marriage fraud and externalising over US$1 million.

Marry, who is also facing another charge of assaulting a domestic worker, last year took to Twitter to express her frustration over the lack of assistance she was getting.

“I have approached the current President many times, he has done nothing and has completely ignored me, citing reasons that his subordinate does not take instructions from him, who is the boss now?” Marry wrote on microblogging site Twitter in October.

“If E.D.M (Mnangagwa) wanted to help me, he would have done so, a long time ago because he knows there is no grain of truth in all these fabrications, he had put me out in the open to be terminated, he promised vehicles, security, accommodation since I am being denied access to my homes and all my bullet proof vehicles taken from me, my money and all but absolutely nothing.”

She has also been denied access to her children aged 11, 10 and eight, whom she has not seen or spoken to in more than two years.

Marry has on several occasions collapsed outside the courts as she struggles with ill-health while she has been continuously denied her passport.

Other people who face criminal charges have been allowed to travel for medical reasons. This has raised fears that a big political hand could be behind the action against her.

Chiwenga himself has on several occasions travelled outside the country to China, India and South Africa for medical reasons.

When The NewsHawks asked Mtetwa on Thursday to shed light on Marry’s current state of health in hospital, she referred questions to her mother, who was unreachable on mobile phone.

Man Who Axed 68yr Old Woman Nabbed

By A Correspondent- Police have arrested a 33-year-old man for allegedly killing a 68-year-old woman by striking her with an axe on the head.

The suspect, Albert Ncube also struck the old woman’s grandson four times on the head with an axe leaving him seriously injured.

On their Twitter page police confirmed the arrest.

“The ZRP confirms the arrest of Albert Ncube (33) in connection with cases of murder and attempted murder which occurred at a house in Spitzkop North Extension, Gwanda on 29 March. The suspect fatally attacked two victims with an axe resulting in the death of a woman (68) and injury of a man (21) after a misunderstanding,” said the police.

Albert reportedly met the old woman’s grandson Mr Aron Zulu and daughter Ms Sandisiwe Ndlovu while they were on their way from the business centre.

Ncube torched the pair with his cellphone light and they confronted him over the matter. This did not go down well with Ncube who started fighting with the Mr Zulu and Ms Ndlovu who fled home and locked the door.

Ncube, who was armed with an axe, chopped the door and gained entry.

He struck the old woman Emilia Ncube once on the head and she died on the spot. He also struck Mr Zulu four times on the head while Ms Ndlovu was able to escape through a window.-statemedia

Corruption Haunts Chamisa Councillors

By A Correspondent- At least four Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) councillors elected in last week’s by-elections could have their joy short-lived following revelations that they face immediate suspension over alleged criminal abuse of office, The NewsHawks has learnt.

The plot to suspend the councillors, it has emerged, involves MDC-T councillors at Town House, Local Government ministry officials and individuals interested in doing business with the City of Harare.

The targeted councillors include former Harare mayor Herbert Gomba, who made a comeback through the by-elections after being recalled by MDC-T in 2020.

He had served as an MDC-T-sponsored mayor from 2018, representing ward 27 in Glen Norah.

The other named councillors facing suspension upon swearing in are Lovemore Makuwerere, Hammy Madzingira and Antony Shingadeya. They were all arrested last year and are facing criminal abuse of office charges.

“They (the four councillors) will not be allowed in and they are all going to be served with letters to stay at home. It’s not clear how things will develop because it depends on how their issues will end in the courts,” an impeccable source said.

Recently, The NewsHawks, working in collaboration with Information for Development Trust (IDT), revealed that some councillors — among them recently re-elected ones — were part of cartels fraudulently acquiring and selling municipal land in Harare.

The investigation, funded by the Fojo Media Institute and International Media Support (IMS), established that officials from the housing, estates and valuation as well as city planning departments were cashing in on a shambolic land bank.

Trusted sources indicated that the return of Gomba and the councillors might scuttle under-the-carpet arrangements that some councillors and senior staff had already hammered out in the absence of the four.

“A lot of things have happened in their (the re-elected councillors’) absence and their return will likely reverse all that and, on that basis, the plan is to block them.

“To do that, the issue of their criminal charges will be used as a basis to suspend them and ensure they do not interact with Town House at all costs,” another council official confided.

There is a precedent regarding the use of councillors’ history at Town House to further block them from resuming office.

Gomba’s successor at Town House, Jacob Mafume, is before the courts facing criminal abuse of office charges and has been repeatedly suspended by Local Government minister July Moyo, on the basis of the allegations that he is facing.

Moyo, a Zanu PF kingpin, is accused of using his office to frustrate and undermine opposition councillors so that the ruling party can gain a strong foothold at Town House.

“This move (to further suspend the re-elected councillors) is meant to protect deals entered into by the MDC-T — now led by Douglas Mwonzora — councillors and several companies linked to the government,” the second insider added.

“The city has warmed up to First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa of late and they are assisting her in several projects she is undertaking across the country. The return of the Chamisa councillors would compromise that,” said the source.

According to minutes of council’s Education, Health and Housing committee meeting of 29 July 2021 that The NewsHawks is in possession of, the local authority supported Mnangagwa’s Nhanga/Gota/Ixhiba and Nharirire Yemusha project that has seen her going on a whirlwind meet-the-people tour in both urban and rural areas.

Ironically, the committee that passed this resolution was previously chaired by Madzingira who has also been re-elected following a recall by MDC-T.

Madzingira is reportedly bent on reversing the endorsement of the First Lady’s project.

The minutes of the July gathering, which were endorsed by a full council meeting, stated that the local authority was open to future participation in philanthropic work by the President’s wife.

The CCC has already expressed its reservations regarding the Mnangagwa project.

The planned US$400 million Pomona dumpsite project is likely to face resistance from the returning councillors as well.

As reported recently, Moyo, the Local Government minister, reportedly arm-twisted the local authority to railroad the deal without following due procedure.

“That is one deal we will look at and you must know also that some of the councillors who were backing Mwonzora now have a point to prove that they are with us. They will do that by supporting our fight,” a senior Town House insider said.

Mafume and other CCC-aligned councillors who were expected back following the weekend polls have since described the deal entered into by German investors as “corruption on high energy” adding that there are many other deals being pushed through without due process.

The deal was signed by the City of Harare represented by the acting town clerk, Mabhena Moyo, and Geogenix BV represented by Miliad Lopa whose address was given as 520 H, 1017 EK, Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Curiously, Geogenix BV has roped in controversial businessman Delish Nguwaya as its local representative in what sources said may point to the involvement of the first family in the deal.

Nguwaya is close to the Mnangagwa family, particularly the President’s twin sons Sean and Collins.

It also emerged that the Pomona deal was granted national project status to shield it from public tender scrutiny and protect it from being challenged, particularly by opposition councillors, through a “political force majeure event” clause.

Titled “Concession agreement to design, build and operate the Harare Pomona waste management facility and waste energy power plant”, the deal was signed in the presence of Moyo and Nguwaya.

Acting Harare mayor Stewart Mutizwa was not picking calls on the issue while Gomba said he was fighting to have his issues resolved in court.

He would not be drawn into commenting on the reported plot to bar him and other returning CCC councillors from  assuming office.

But on the charges he is facing, he said: “It will end soon. The court cases will come to an end.-Newshawks

Fissures In Mwonzora’s Camp

By A Correspondent- Losing MDC-T parliamentary candidate for Epworth National Assembly constituency Zivai Mhetu has come out guns blazing against his party president Douglas Mwonzora, accusing him of a plethora of flaws after being barred from entering their headquarters in Harare.

Mhetu was denied entry into the party’s Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House headquarters by angry youths who included member of parliament Yvonne Musarurwa after confessing that his association with ‘tainted’ leader Mwonzora cost him the seat.

Anti-riot police officers had to be called in after the situation almost degenerated into violent clashes as Mhetu maintained he had the right to access the building.

A national executive meeting was underway and according to Mhetu his suspension was being finalised.

“I am the Harare provincial chairperson, I am entitled to sit in the national council meeting but as I was about to enter Yvonne Musarurwa and others blocked me and told me that I had been suspended,” Mhetu said.

“They said my suspension letter was being prepared. I am sure the reason why I am being suspended is because I reported what the electorate said in the run up to the by-elections as I campaigned in Epworth. I did not know that I was going to be punished for telling the truth.”

Mhetu’s predicament started when he told the media that Epworth residents indicated they would not vote him because of his association with Mwonzora although he was their preferred candidate.

The seat was won by Zanu-PF’s Zalera Makari.

“I wanted to raise the motion that Mwonzora steps down after our loss. Being the president you are the chief executive officer (CEO) and he is responsible for our failure to win even one seat in the by-elections,” Mhetu said.

Mwonzora told journalists Monday the loss was not worth writing home about as he had “missed a penalty like all football stars sometimes do.”

He only managed 745 votes with Makari getting 10 246 and CCC’s Kureva Earthrage coming out second on 8 283 votes.

Mhetu questioned Mwonzora’s loyalties, arguing that he could confirm his ties with ruling Zanu-PF as was hinted by party chairperson Moergen Komichi in a leaked call this week.

“He has been accused of dining with Zanu-PF. I can clearly state that Mwonzora is dining with Zanu-PF. He does not want top do anything that makes the party have a lot of supporters, whenever he is on the podium he is always attacking Nelson Chamisa,” said Mhetu.

“Since the time he has been receiving government funds he has never funded crucial departments such as the security, the organising, the information and recruitment departments.”

Mwonzora has indeed not shared proceeds of the Political Parties (Finance) Act with anyone, including parties that make up the opposition coalition MDC Alliance.

ZRP Investigates Robbery Case In Mutoko

ZRP Worried Over Rampant Corruption

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi has expressed concern over rampant corruption among police officers.

He singled out Beitbridge as the most corrupt town.

In a statement Friday, Nyathi said 17 corrupt cops have been arrested and brought to court on graft charges in the border town this year.

In a statement Friday, Nyathi said 17 corrupt cops have been arrested and brought to court on graft charges in the border town this year.

The Security Services of Zimbabwe are concerned with reports of rampant smuggling at the country’s borders, coupled with accusations of corruption by some deployed members of the services at Beitbridge Border Post.

The security services categorically state that any member who engages in corruption will be arrested without fear or favour as shown in a recent incident where 17 members of the security services were arrested and arraigned before the courts.

Transporters and clearing agents are expected to lead by example and shun acts of corruption and enticing members of the security services through corrupt tendencies.

Critics say the chaos is just the tip of the iceberg of how corrupt government operations have become.

The 17 members of the security forces are part of many others who have been arrested for crimes that include fraud, armed robbery and corruption.

By A Correspondent- MDC-T Harare provincial chairman Zivai Mhetu was kicked out of the Morgan Tsvangirai House after a video of him claiming he lost Epworth to Zanu PF because people did not like the “jacket” he was putting on in apparent reference to the party he was representing.

Mnangagwa, Tsvangirai Plotted Mugabe Coup

By- Reports say that Zanu PF’s Emmerson Mnangagwa and late MDC founding president Morgan Tsvangirai plotted the ouster of late President Robert Mugabe at the turn of the millennium.
Mugabe was later ousted in 2007 by Mnangagwa through a military coup.
Just before Mugabe resigned, Tsvangirai addressed thousands of people gathered outside Parliament building where he urged the former Zanu PF leader to “step down immediately to avoid impeachment”.
Mugabe resigned before he was impeached.
Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa on Thursday claimed that the late trade unionist played a crucial role in President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ascendancy.
Tsvangirai succumbed to cancer of the colon in South Africa in February 2018.
Before his death, Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga visited Tsvangirai’s Highlands home and pledged to pay his medical bills.
After his death, Mnangagwa told mourners at Tsvangirai’s home that government would look after the former trade unionist’s family.
“We kept Mugabe in office when the threat was from the West. You do not open your armpits when the enemy is at the gate. So when we saw that there was a chance to deal with Mugabe we dealt with Mugabe in a very surgical manner where even themselves (opposition) became part of that process,” Mutsvangwa said during HSTv’s Freetalk show where opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) politician Job Sikhala was also a guest.
HStv is a digital television station run by Alpha Media Holdings, publishers of NewsDay, The Standard, Zimbabwe Independent, Southern Eye and digital publication Weekly Digest.
“We built a broad, united front and it is also to their credit that for a change there was wisdom just that the wisdom died with the demise of Tsvangirai then afterwards the party was afflicted with its usual falling to the Western countries.”
At the time, Tsvangirai is alleged to have lobbied Western diplomats to play down the coup and embrace Mnangagwa.
Mutsvangwa claimed that there was no love-lost between Tsvangirai and the military leaders although they blocked him from grabbing the presidency in the 2008 elections.
The military, then headed by Chiwenga, led a terror campaign against opposition supporters after Tsvangirai defeated Mugabe in the first round of the 2008 elections, culminating in a bloody rerun.
Tsvangirai later pulled out of the race citing persecution of his supporters, a development which led to the formation of a coalition government after the international community refused to recognise Mugabe’s victory.
In 2019, CCC leader Nelson Chamisa, then MDC-T leader, told crowds at Tsvangirai’s memorial service at Hamunikwa village in Buhera that Mnangagwa had promised Tsvangirai a transitional government that would oversee the implementation of democratic reforms.
“He (Chamisa) does not know the role played which his former president Tsvangirai discharged in the birth of the second republic. The MDC previously had tried to unseat Mugabe as he became hold to corruption and responsible for all this litany of abuses he is talking about,” Mutsvangwa said.
“The war veterans who have always been the game changers in the history of this county did…We decided to do it because we have a pedigree in that we made Zimbabwe. That is our pedigree and when things began to go wrong, we intervened as war veterans.”
Reports in the Zimbabwe Independent in early 2000 said Mnangagwa and Tsvangirai had also worked together in a plot to remove Mugabe. Then Zimbabwe Defence Forces commander General Vitalis Zvinavashe was removed from office in 2003 after being fingered in the plot.
The plot, according to media reports, was to send Mugabe to Malaysia so as to facilitate a resolution of Zimbabwe’s economic crisis.
Zvinavashe, who denied involvement in the plot, was later deployed to the Zanu PF politburo and given a political role. He died in 2009. Newsday

Zanu PF Rigged Mutasa, Mrewa Parliament By-elections

By-Independent election watchdogs have raised concerns over the credibility of the Mutasa South and Murewa South by-election results amid fears that villagers might have been coerced to vote against their will.

ZANU PF grabbed the two constituencies that were previously held by the opposition.

In total, the ruling party won nine seats out of the 28 vacant parliamentary seats while the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) got 19 in the by-elections held on March 26.

Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) chairperson Priscilla Chigumba yesterday applauded the commission’s staff for handling elections well.

However, a preliminary statement on the by-elections released by the Election Resource Centre (ERC) and Zimbabwe Election Support Network (ZESN) said verifying the Mutasa South and Murewa South poll results was not possible. The statement read:

It is not possible to verify the results for Mutasa South. While the average turnout for Mutasa South was approximately 35%, all of these polling stations had a turnout of over 50%. At the same time, over 90% of votes were cast for Zanu PF while for the constituency as a whole Zanu PF received only slightly over 50% of the vote.

These are indicators of community coercion and that voters were not able to freely participate in the elections. Given that the official margin of victory was only 549 votes, this community coercion undermines the credibility of the Mutasa South election and the legitimacy of the outcome.

For Murewa South, the average turnout was approximately 49%, but for these polling stations turnout was 60% and above. For both constituencies, the vote share for Zanu PF was over 90% – much higher than for other polling stations. This pattern calls into question where voters were able to freely participate in the process and if the results truly reflect their preferences.

The election observers also raised concerns over the high number of assisted voters in constituencies won by the ruling Zanu PF party.

Mnangagwa Shocked By Losing Binga Seat To Chamisa

By- Zanu PF lost the Binga North house of assembly seat to Nelson Chamisa’s Prince Dubeko Sibanda, despite investing heavily in the constituency.

According to Sibanda of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Zanu PF sent its top officials including Obert Mpofu, Kembo Mohadi, Constantino Chiwenga, Richard Moyo and President Emmerson Mnangagwa himself to campaign for the party’s candidate in a bid to win the seat for the first time in decades but this was all to no avail.

Sibanda won by 10 130 votes, defeating Kudakwashe Mavula Munsaka of ZANU-PF who came second with 7 971 votes, despite the immense resources poured into his campaign by ZANU PF.

Speaking on Twitter space on By-Election Results and Matabeleland Voting patterns on Thursday evening, Sibanda said:

It is important to give background to this by-election. It was clear that ZANU-PF had targeted Binga North to be one of the biggest prizes.

They put in everything, invested all their energy into Binga North, they wanted it at all costs.

For the first time, all bigwigs of ZANU-PF literally came to camp in Binga North.

We saw (senior ZANU-PF members) Obert Mpofu, Kembo Mohadi, (Vice President Constantino) Chiwenga and Richard Moyo – the ZANU-PF provincial chairman.

We also saw the District Development Coordinator (DDC), a newly appointed ZANU-PF member who is currently the DA in Binga going all over, threatening the traditional leaders that they have to act in a certain way or else they would be removed from their positions. We saw (President Emmerson) Mnangagwa.

ZANU-PF used a lot of money in Matabeleland North and a lot of resources in Binga North. They made sure there were a lot of people and development projects.

We saw a lot of tippers, graders, and caterpillars brought into Binga North for purposes of trying to (coerce) people.

They also brought bicycles. I’m sure the bicycles were seen by everyone but our ground was intact, solid and was never shaken. Those are things we witnessed in Binga North.

Sibanda was recalled from Parliament by the MDC-T in October 2020, which accused him of joining the rival MDC Alliance which was led by Nelson Chamisa at the time.

DSTV Hikes Prices With Effect From 1 April

DStv’s updated pricing for 2022 takes effect from today, 1 April, with prices on some services increasing by 4.89%.

The average increase across DStv’s pay-TV packages is 2.7%, which MultiChoice highlighted was significantly less than projected inflation for 2022.

MultiChoice said it had considered the challenges facing South African consumers and absorbed as much of the cost increase as possible.

“We realise that customers remain under pressure two years into the Covid-19 pandemic,” MultiChoice South Africa’s CEO, Nyiko Shiburi, said.

“These adjustments will help us to ensure that South Africans continue to enjoy the best value, and unrivalled access to entertainment, anywhere, anytime, and at the most affordable price.”

DStv’s Premium and Compact Plus subscribers will pay R10 per month more from today — less than a 2% increase in both cases.

DStv also increased the access fee from R105 to R110 but left its Box Office, Showmax, EasyView, and Add Movies pricing unchanged.

Since 22 March, DStv subscribers may only stream to a single device at a time. This change did not impact decoder-based viewing or Showmax.

A recent MyBroadband analysis revealed that South Africans could subscribe to Dinsey+ (when it launches) and eight other streaming services for around the same price as DStv Premium.

Notably, all of the streaming services in the comparison offered at least two concurrent streams.

Bewitched Thieves Return Loot

By A Correspondent- A Bulawayo businessman who reportedly lost about US$24 000 a fortnight ago to two thieves after they allegedly broke into his car had the money returned to him after he consulted a local prophet who reportedly invoked a curse on the thieves.

The businessman (name withheld) reportedly lost the money after the thieves forced open the doors of his car which he had parked outside his shop.

The businessman was said to have consulted Black Elisha, real name Mduduzi Dube, who is famed for his spiritual padlock which he used to “spiritually lock” them by invoking a curse on the thieves and warned that they would die within two days if they did not return the money.

According to a source close to the shocking incident, disturbed by the efficacy of the ‘curse’, the thieves reportedly returned the money the next day and dumped it outside the businessman’s shop.

“He seems to know how he was going to recover his money because he didn’t report the matter to the police.

Those people who were privy to the incident were shocked when they heard that the money had been returned,” the source said.

Contacted for comment, the businessman neither confirmed nor denied that he sought the services of Black Elisha in order to recover his money.

“I don’t think it’s a story worth publishing.  I am afraid that if published it will put my life and business at risk,” the businessman said.

When contacted for comment Black Elisha, who initially wanted to remain tight-lipped, later confirmed the incident.

“Yes, it happened, but I cannot divulge more details. It was indeed a brutal lesson to other notorious thieves who are terrorising people stealing their property.

As a prophet, I also have to protect my clients since client confidentiality is important just like that of a doctor-patient relationship where a patient’s private information cannot be disclosed without his or her authorisation,” said Black Elisha.

When B-Metro prodded him on the source of his powers, Black Elisha said:
“Although there are some people questioning the source of my powers, let me make it clear that I don’t use juju, but I  use the powers of God.

I am bound by the power of God to heal many illnesses, bring back lost lovers and money as well as fighting against witchcraft.

It is also my duty to assist people from being deceived,” said Black Elisha.

Black Elisha is also famed for his spiritual padlock which uses to lock unfaithful men or women and this saw an influx of people flooding his house to seek divine intervention.

The spiritual padlock, which he says can be used for anything, is mostly common among married couples and of late business people, who say keeps their riches at bay from thieves.-BMetro

Zimbabwe Council Of Churches Full Report On By-elections

Mnangagwa Hoodwinks War Collaborators

By TIMOTH MUSWERE

On going War Collaborators vetting a mere Political move by Zanu pf meant to deceive the electorate.

Zanu pf neglected them longback.Advocate Nelson Chamisa emphasized on remuneration for all war collaborators and senior Citizens when he assumes government office.

Since 1980 Zanu pf has failed to remunerate our fathers and mothers ,sons and daughters who sacrificed their life during liberation struggle.

The current ED government might want to paint black Mugabe but more than three quarters of them were also in the Mugabe government that ignored the plight of the war collaborators. During the Land Reform programme popularly known as Hondo yeminda, Zanu pf used the same people to invade farms from white settlers only to award themselves with multiple farms, electrified farm houses among other things and chase the youths away to small pieces of land with no community social services needed. Since then Zanu pf has done nothing to award those that fought during the liberation struggle and also those that fought the Hondo yeminda. It’s high time that Zanu pf youths should wake up from their slumber and realise that they are being used by the senior Zanu pf chefs to fatten their already fat pockets.

Now that Chamisa has come up with a pro poor, pro citizens agenda that ensures that war collaborators, senior citizens and war veterans should be remunerated accordingly and in strong US currency,Zanu pf regime has panicked as we head towards elections and are now coming up with a war collaborators program that they they have for long been ignoring. They are only doing this to brainwash the electorate. Zanu pf chefs must surrender their multiple farms first, surrender their mines first ,to the citizens and other war collaborators whom they are claiming to be assisting.

War Collaborators and senior citizens should be vigilant enough to claim that which is theirs and is in the hands of few Zanu pf chefs. This Zanu pf move is also not backed by the financial or economic basis in the treasury. We will soon be seeing longer qeues in banks as there is foreign currency deficit due to lack of investors and isolation from the international community. Moreover the Corruption in government officials is crippling the economy to such an extent that a few people are pocketing from minerals. How then would Zanu pf achieve to remunerate the war collaborators, How then would Zanu pf give decent salaries to civil servants with that level of corruption.

Citizens Citizens Wake up and demand your dues from government.
War Collaborators demand your land from the multiple farm owners, demand enough monetary remunerations in forex not in expiring bond notes. Watch out we are being fooled just for elections and then they would neglect you for another 5 years.

Peaceful demand for our dues as citizens, war collaborators, youths and civil servants would yield something if we are to be vigilant.

Katsimberis is accused of duping fellow property developer Pokugara Properties of close to US$1 million in a joint venture project to build cluster houses in Harare’s Borrowdale suburb.

His trial started with the first witness Michael Van Blerk telling the court that Katsimebris understands English.

Van Blerk, who was Pokugara Properties Zimbabwe general manager, told the court that Katsimberis used building plans which were not approved by the City of Harare to construct a showroom.

“We believed that the accused had City of Harare approved plans. City of Harare wrote to us that there were no approved plans,” said Van Blerk.

He said they had a joint venture with Katsimberis to develop land owned by Pokugara Properties.

“After signing of the joint venture agreement, Katsimberis was responsible to obtain all planning authorities on behalf of Pokugara and get approved plans and abide by all the bylaws. The building was then demolished after the city of Harare discovered that it was built without an approved plan and was constructed with unauthorized material,” he said.

“The accused for a period encircled the structure to prevent us from viewing it but eventually we saw it. He used a steel frame and concrete tar which was not part of our agreement. The house was demolished carefully and without malice by the city council and all materials was recovered by the accused person.”

Katsimberis through his lawyer advocate Tawanda Kanengoni denied the allegations and told the court that he will file his defence outline in due course.

Machistrate Vongai Muchuchuti-Guwuriro postponed the trial to April 5. – Newsday

Zim Cooking Oil Shoots Up Because Of Ukraine War

By Consumer Hub Zimbabwe | Why are cooking oil prices going up? Ukraine is the largest exporter of sunflower and third largest producer of soybean oil globally. Zimbabwe imports crude soy bean oil, it is actually our second largest import, after fuel.

Last year alone, Zim imported crude soya bean oil valued at US$223 million. There have been some supply disruptions which resulted in reduced global supply and price increases, since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. The cooking oil price increases are not happening in Zimbabwe only. – Consumer Hub Zimbabwe.

Police Shoot Armed Robber

A soldier and a police officer are among four suspects arrested after a police shootout with suspected armed robbers in Harare on Wednesday.

A fifth suspect was killed in the incident near Showgrounds while two got away, police said.

Police detectives were tipped off that the seven suspects were planning to rob a house on Gelcon Avenue in Greendale and surveillance was set up.

Officers watched the suspects parking their vehicles – a South Africa-registered dark blue Golf 6 and a navy-blue Toyota Corolla – near the target property.

The mission did not go to plan, however, when dogs started barking. This forced the suspects to retreat to their vehicles before they drove into town, shadowed by police officers.

The suspects drove to a Glow Petroleum service station near Showgrounds along Bulawayo road and parked their vehicles.

A team from the Criminal Investigations Department, according to police, approached the suspects and indicated that they were police officers.

“Upon noticing the presence of the detectives, the accused persons started firing towards the team. The team returned fire and a shootout ensued,” according to a police report of the incident seen by ZimLive.

Three suspects – Dalubuhle Ndlovu, 36, Precious Dube, 40, and Meluleki Makhalima – were shot. Thulani Maphosa, 30, and Michael Khanyiso Moyo, 47, were placed under arrest as the injured were taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital where Makhalima was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said two other suspects managed to get away in the Golf 6. The suspects have been identified only as Sean, said to be a South African national, and a Fundisani from Bulawayo.

Investigators recovered a pistol and a revolver at the scene.

Police said when the suspects were processed, it was discovered that Maphosa is a soldier with 9 Signals in Bulawayo while Ndlovu is a police officer stationed at Pumula Police Station in Bulawayo.

Moyo, police said, is a Zimbabwean living in the Johannesburg suburb of Hillbrow in South Africa while Dube lives in Old Lobengula in Bulawayo.

Police said Dube was a wanted suspect over a cash-in-transit robbery near Connemara Prison on November 25 last year when US$334,000 was stolen from a Fawcett Security van.

Police later said the robbery was an inside job after arresting a Fawcett security guard and some of his accomplices. – ZimLive

Will Smith Resigns From Oscars After Disciplinary Notice

US actor Will Smith has stepped down from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, following a disciplinary notice to investigate and deliberate on his violent slap against comedian Chris Rock last weekend.

The actor released a statement late Friday saying in full:

“I have directly responded to the Academy’s disciplinary hearing notice, and I will fully accept any and all consequences for my conduct. My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable. The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home. I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken. I want to put the focus back on those who deserve attention for their achievements and allow the Academy to get back to the incredible work it does to support creativity and artistry in film. So, I am resigning from membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and will accept any further consequences the Board deems appropriate. Change takes time and I am committed to doing the work to ensure that I never again allow violence to overtake reason.”

Robert Mugabe Targets Zanu PF Top Post

By A Correspondent- The late former President Robert Mugabe’s son, Robert Mugabe Jnr, is set to contest for a leadership position in the Zanu-PF youth league at its national conference to be held in May.

Zanu-PF sources told a local publication Robert Jnr is contemplating throwing his hat in the ring at the party youth league’s 7th national conference to run between May 4 and 8.

Zanu-PF acting deputy secretary for youth Tendai Chirau was evasive when asked whether Robert Jnr would be eligible to stand.

“We will only know people who are interested after submission of CVs (curriculum vitae) which is done at DCC (district coordinating committee) and provincial levels. We haven’t yet received them. I wouldn’t know if he (Robert Jnr) is interested because it’s just like you have just finished ‘A’ Levels and you say you want to go to university when results are not yet out,” Chirau said Thursday.

However, sources within the party confirmed the late former president’s eldest son wants a bite of the cherry.

“Robert Jnr will be contesting for a post within the Youth League, which holds its elective conference beginning of May. He is laying the foundation for a fully-fledged political career in a bid to fill his father’s shoes.”

It is not clear, yet which position Robert Jnr is targeting, but sources say with Chirau now well above the constitutionally acknowledged youth bracket, he may as well be up for the ultimate prize.

The 30-year-old is rumoured to be eyeing a parliamentary seat in his home area of Zvimba West currently held by Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi.

Last week, he attended President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s star rally in Chitungwiza where he declared allegiance to Zanu-PF, a party his late father helped found.

Robert Jnr later sat on the high table along with top government officials.

He was quoted saying: “I thought I should come and support the party. Like it’s a family tradition. Since I was born, the only thing I knew is Zanu-PF. I am a Zanu-PF child, and I have a Zanu-PF soul. It is only right that I continue the legacy.”

In welcoming Robert Jnr, Zanu-PF spokesperson, Chris Mutsvangwa said his presence would inspire young people to join the former revolutionary party.

Robert Junior was at one time named number four among Zimbabwe’s most influential young people in a survey conducted by the Zimbabwe Research Institute (ZRI).

Sources told NewZimbabwe.com, Robert Jnr and Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga’s son, Irvine, who was controversially drafted into Mashonaland West Provincial Youth League Executive last December, could spark protest at the upcoming conference as the eligibility criteria could be twisted to suit the pair.

Both have allegedly not served at district level for the required number of years.

According to a leaked Zanu-PF memo, candidates have to be below 35 years old, registered voters, fully paid-up members who have served at least five years at district level, and without criminal records.

The league’s conference will see the election of a successor to Chirau, who confirmed he will not be seeking re-election as he was above the 35-years threshold.

The event would also be in preparation for October’s elective congress at which Mnangagwa expects endorsement as the party’s sole candidate for the 2023 presidential elections.

Mosimane Mocks Bafana Bafana

Sports Correspondent|Legendary South African coach Pitso Mosimane has blasted Bafana Bafana players saying they were mere spectators in the game against France.

South Africa lost 0-5 to France in the embarrassingly one-sided friendly match.

Pitso Mosimane said : “France was playing against spectators. Fans or supporters.

Lakay the Sundowns left back smiled when Mbappe scored his first goal. I mean what is that?… If you can now interview those players ask them what’s their goals in life ? They would tell you you” My goal is to move to Europe “… I mean let’s be honest no one wants such physical and mental unfit players in their teams in Europe.

I believe there were scouts in the stands, but they wasted their time, because the focus was not on marketing themselves but on Having selfies with Pogba at 90 minutes. As a country we need to develop football players not social media merchants. “

Mnangagwa Loses Car To Thieves

By- Two Harare men appeared in court yesterday for allegedly conniving to steal a vehicle from the Office of the President and Cabinet.

The car was parked along Nelson Mandela Avenue in Harare.
The duo of Lameck Phiri and Last Chinamasa appeared before Harare magistrate, Shane Kubonera, who remanded them in custody.
He advised them to approach the High Court for bail. The complainant is Obey Mbofana, who is employed by the OPC.
The court heard that on March 17, Mbofana parked a silver Toyota Quantum in the Harare CBD.
He left the car keys on the ignition, while the engine was idling, as he negotiated the price of a pair of shoes, which were being sold on the pavement.
The court heard that Chinamasa and Phiri took advantage, opened the car from the passenger side and drove off at high speed.
Mbofana tried to give chase but the duo turned into Leopold Takawira Street and disappeared.
On March 29, detectives from the Vehicle Theft Squad received information that Crynonce Kasenga was in possession of one of Mbofana’s stolen cellphones.
Kasenga told detectives he bought the cellphone from Phiri who in turn implicated Chinamasa.
The court heard that when the police conducted a search they recovered the stolen vehicle key attached to a Honda Fit key.
They also recovered, from Chinamasa, a battery and a starter which he had stripped from the stolen Toyota Quantum.
Chinamasa allegedly led detectives to Zinanga Village, Chief Seke in Ziko where his father Simon stays.
He told detectives the vehicle, which was parked at his homestead, was brought by his son.
Detectives inspected the motor vehicle and identified it by its Chassis number.
They found out that the engine, gearbox, battery, starter and number plates had been removed.
Phiri led the police to a maize field in Sunningdale 2 where he had stashed the number plates.
The gearbox was also recovered.
The duo is also facing another count of vehicle theft where the State alleges that they connived to steal Isaac Chivero’s Toyota Runx in the CBD.
The court heard that Chivero parked his car along Rezende Street and left the key in the ignition.
The duo pounced and stole the car.
It was stripped and the majority of the parts were sold.
In the third count, the duo allegedly stole and stripped Marvelous Wasakara’s Blue Honda Fit, which he had parked along Leopold Takawira.
Phiri also appeared before Harare magistrate, Barbra Mateko, facing vehicle theft charges after he allegedly stole Owen Muleya’s beige Honda Fit.
The court heard that on January 20, Muleya parked his car and went into a restaurant along Chinhoyi Street, in Harare’s CBD.
Phiri is alleged to have pounced and stole the car.
Tapiwanashe Zvidzai and Marian Furidze appeared for the State. H Metro

Biti Loses Freedom Bid

By- A Harare magistrate has dismissed an application by opposition Citizen Coalition for Change vice President and lawyer Tendai Biti seeking postponement of his trial on charges.

Biti is in court for allegedly assaulting a Russian national Tatiana Aleshina within the court premises in 2020.

Biti, through his lawyer Alec Muchadehama, wanted the matter postponed pending a ruling on his appeal at the Supreme Court.

Biti had also asked magistrate Letwin Rwodzi and prosecutor Michael Reza to recuse themselves, accusing them of bias.

But magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti-Guwuriro dismissed the application before accusing Biti of employing delaying tactics to evade justice.
The matter was postponed to April 11 for commencement of trial.

Ginimbi Sister Wins Inheritance Case

By- The High Court judge has granted Juliet and Neria Kadungure, sisters to the late socialite Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure, the authority to enjoy their inheritance.

This comes after lawyer Patricia Darangwa tried to dispose of some of Ginimbi’s supercars, a Lamborghini, claiming that she was the executor of his estate.
Darangwa presented an unsigned will purportedly written by the late Ginimbi and the will was accepted by the Master of the High Court.
Ginimbi’s family appealed against Darangwa’s appointment as the executor of the estate and the request was granted by the High Court.

However, the family’s hands remained tied after Darangwa appealed to the Supreme Court.

While the Supreme Court is yet to make a ruling on Darangwa’s appeal, it emerged that she was trying to sell one of Ginimbi’s immovable properties in Botswana.
According to Juliet, Darangwa had been writing to the Master of Botswana High Court posing as the executor of Kadungure’s estate.
This prompted Juliet and Neria to file the present urgent chamber application, which has been granted by Justice Amy Tsanga. In her ruling, Justice Tsanga said:
It is the court’s finding that the family should be allowed to enjoy what the late Genius Kadungure left them.
Therefore, the application for leave to execute the order, pending the appeal at the Supreme Court, is hereby granted.
Ginimbi died in the wee hours of Sunday, 08 November 2020 along Borrowdale Road in Harare when his speeding Rolls Royce collided with a Honda Fit, veered off the road and hit a tree before catching fire.
Ginimbi was in the company of model and fitness trainer Michelle “Moana” Amuli, a Mozambican and a Malawian national.

He was pulled out of the car alive but died moments later. The other occupants of the car were trapped inside and were burned to death.

Zanu PF Launches Chamisa Voters Man-hunt

By-The Zanu PF is said to have launched a witch-hunt targeting members suspected of voting for Nelson Chamisa’s Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in the 26 March by-elections.

Zanu PF youth activists are reportedly moving door-to-door in rural areas, demanding to know who the villagers voted for, and in some cases threatening those suspected to have voted for CCC.

Prison officers and police officers are also being victimised for voting for the opposition, leaked WhatsApp group chats of prison officers at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison show.

Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison is in Harare East where ZANU PF’s Mavis Gumbo was defeated by CCC’s Tendai Biti. One of the chats in a WhatsApp group of the prison officers reads:

Vamwe tatiza kubasa coz of victimisation. Hanzi sei Zanu yakadyiwa mucamp. Kkkkkkkk tyt PPU neSupport Unit ma1, transfers soon. (Some of us have fled from our workplaces because of victimisation. They are asking why Zanu PF was defeated in a camp. It’s tight in Police PPU (Public Protection Unit) and Support Unit camps. Transfers are looming.

However, ZANU PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa denied the claims and challenged those alleging victimisation to report to the police. Said Mutsvangwa:

ZANU PF is against any post-election victimisation. If there are cases like that, people should go and report them to the police.

ZANU PF is not bothered by how the people of Zimbabwe exercise their rights.

It would be probably found out that there are some rogue elements within the society that has nothing to do with the ruling party.

ZANU PF is focusing on rapid urbanisation where it is targeting to restore order in service delivery in cities that have suffered years of neglect under the opposition MDC leadership.

ZANU PF won 9 of the 28 contested parliamentary seats while Chamisa’s CCC got 19 in Saturday’s by-elections.

The ruling party actually made significant gains since two of the nine seats it bagged were won by the opposition MDC Alliance in 2018.

Zim Woman Jailed In Seychelles

By- Seychelles Supreme Court sentenced a Zimbabwean female national to five years in prison for the importation and trafficking of controlled drugs on Thursday.
According to the Anti-Narcotics Bureau (ANB), Elsie Esther Vambe, 45, was sentenced to five years in prison for the importation of a controlled drug and another five years for trafficking a controlled drug.

The sentences will run concurrently, which means Vambe will be imprisoned for five years.
The Zimbabwean national pleaded guilty to both offences.
Vambe was arrested on October 26 after the ANB found 1.51kg of heroin and 503.70g of cocaine that she had hidden in the toilets on an Air Seychelles flight from Johannesburg.
In giving his sentence, the presiding Judge, Mohan Burhan, explained that certain facts were considered before giving her the two five-year prison terms instead of the six years each – that apply to such offences.
The fact that she is a first offender and pleaded guilty to all charges was considered by the court.
This is the first sentencing of a foreign national on controlled drug charges for this year.
Seychelles, an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, has a zero-tolerance drug policy and has recently put in place several measures to combat the trafficking of illicit drugs on its shores. –Seychelles News Agency

Church Backs Chamisa On ZEC Elections Rigging

By-The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) has expressed concern over how the 26 March by-elections were conducted.

Despite acknowledging positive strides made by ZEC in areas such as voter registration and gender sensitivity, ZCC said there is still room for improvement in the areas of voters’ roll management, polling station accessibility by PWDs and elderly voters.

President Chamisa’s CCC Outshines Zanu PF

As CCC won 19 parliamentary seats out of 28 and 75 council seats

As Zanu PF gets 128, 399 votes where it won 9 mps and CCC got 129, 799 votes where it won 19 mps.

As Mwonzora was ZERONISED and gets zero votes in other polling stations as his election agents failed to vote for MDC Alliance candidates

1 April 2022

Wezhira Munya

A two moths old and newly formed political party Citizens Coalition for Change led by popular and charismatic President Nelson Chamisa won 26 March 2022 by elections.

CCC political party with two months contested against Zanu PF formed in 1963 and MDC formed in 1999.

The by election results are as follows:

Council results: CCC : 75 seats out of 122 which is 61.5%.

On the other hand, Zanu PF got 47 council seats that is 38.5%

Mwonzora MDC Alliance got zero council seats.

Members of Parliament results

CCC won 19 members of parliament out of 28. This is 68%.

On the other hand, Zanu PF won 9 seats. Which is 32%.

Mwonzora did not win any member of Parliament seat.

In terms of total number of votes casted in favour of CCC members of Parliament is 129 799 votes and Zanu PF has 128, 399 votes. It means CCC President Chamisa defeated Zanu PF president Mnangagwa’s party with 1400 votes.

Interestingly, Mwonzora has less than 5 000 votes in all 28 constituencies. In some polling stations MDC Mwonzora got zero votes, even the election agents did not vote for Mwonzora’s candidates.

The call by Mwonzora for rational disputation with Zanu PF was based on fear of being defeated during elections. True to his fears, Mwonzora’s MDC Alliance failed to win council and members of Parliament seats.

In Masvingo all MDC Alliance candidates failed to get more than 50 votes.

MDC Alliance under Mwonzora has been rejected by the electorate.

One senior MDC Alliance member said, “Mwonzora rigged extraordinary congress, recalled elected representatives, rigged primary elections, did not support party candidates, failed to create party structures and failed to hold ordinary congress as per party constitution. This caused by elections heavy defeat. We are embarrassed. I am ashamed to be MDC Alliance member. It’s a curse.”

Due to heavy political defeat, yesterday MDC Alliance coordinator Mr Marakai Mabika , suspended MDC Alliance president Mwonzora with immediate effect. Mr Mabika suspended Mwonzora because of poor performance of MDC Alliance during these by elections.

MDC Alliance senior member Mr Tapiwa Mashakada, has sent a congratulatory message to President Chamisa and CCC members after winning resoundingly by elections through his Facebook page.

Despite police and Zanu PF brutality, intimidation, banning of rallies, violence and death of CCC supporter Mr Ncube in Kwekwe , CCC managed to win elections.

Zanu PF and MDC Alliance of Mwonzora collectively robbed President Chamisa’s 2018 election victory and benefits. Mwonzora through police and army assistance stole Harvest House during dead of the night and all assets, judiciary constructed MDC Alliance got Chamisa’ members of Parliament, councillors and approximately us$2 million political funds. President Chamisa was partyless, as MDC T under Mwonzora change to MDC Alliance party , took party colours, log and other symbols.

Zanu PF and MDC Alliance members went overdrive saying Chamisa is finished “Chamisa wapera”.

CCC national youth organiser Godfrey Kuraone said, “President Chamisa and CCC party are unstoppable. This CCC is a cyclone that
can not be stopped. We won by elections against all odds.”

Zanu PF and MDC Alliance fought President Chamisa during COVID-19 lock down where political gatherings where banned. As a result, many people thought President Chamisa was politically dead.

However, COVID-19 lockdown was uplifted and by elections date was declared. Then strategically President Nelson Chamisa announced the new yellow party named CCC.

The new party was received by millions of Zimbabweans. President Chamisa’s by election rallies were over subscribed as an average of 40 000 supporters attend Provincial star rallies. These people were not bussed. On the other hand, Zanu PF was bussing people to its rallies and Mwonzora was holding his rallies in local community halls with less than 100 sitting capacity.

The by election results show that President Chamisa is now third official opposition in parliament and council with 19 mps and 75 council seats.

President Chamisa said today at the Press conference, “We have won 19 mps and 75 councillors. We are going to win two thirds majority in 2023 and Presidential vote.”

Last year Mwonzora told Newsday reporter Blessing Mhlanga that, MDC Alliance will win election by 66%. But by election results show that Mwonzora did not win any council sea and constituency. The once might MDC under late President Tsvangirai and President Chamisa died in the hands of Mwonzora.

Soldier, Cop Caught In Robbery

– ZimLive

War Collaborators Vetting, A Zanu PF Gimmick To Hoodwink Electorate

By A Correspondent- Zambia and Zimbabwe were once a single country known as the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, also known as the Central African Federation or CAF.

This was a colonial federation that consisted of three southern African territories: the self-governing British colony of Southern Rhodesia and the British protectorates of Northern Rhodesia and Nyasaland. Zimbabwe and Zambia are United by history, culture and blood.

It comes as no surprise that Zimbabwe and Zambia are coming together in the film industry to host one of the most controversial and exciting Television programs in the region.

Kazadi Media is now bringing the Divorce club into Zimbabwe, through a synergistic partnership between Kazadi Media from Zambia and Sibusiso Media which operates in Zimbabwe and South Africa. The project is set to be sponsored by financial services giant Mumba Money who recently launched their brand in Zambia.

David Kazadi said “We are excited to cement the people to people relations through telling our love stories and seeing life and love from both Zambian and Zimbabwean eyes.”

Kuzivakwashe Mtandiro the Chief Operations Officer of Sibusiso Media said “Zimbabwe and Zambia have a combined audience of 33 Million viewers and if we can capture 25% of those figures we would have unlocked massive potential for advertisers , sponsors and the media world at large.”

She added that “Zimbabwe and Zambia have a shared history and we are related by the blood of the armed struggle that we endured to attain political independence and now we depend on each other to attain economic independence and we do hope that this collaboration with Kazadi Media will unlock doors for greater cooperation between the two countries.”

Namibian Minister Bags 12th Degree

By A Correspondent- Namibian Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Peya Mushelenga, obtained his 12th academic degree on Wednesday when he graduated with a PhD in law from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa.

According to a statement issued by the South African university on Thursday, Mushelenga’s thesis, “Investigator-prosecutor collaboration: A framework for improving Namibia’s criminal justice process”, is the first of its kind in Namibia.

The thesis discusses the significance of inter-agency cooperation to determine a suitable model for that country. Said Mushelenga:

I grew up in a rural village called Oshigambo in northern Namibia, where I attended primary school, studying under trees during the day and by candlelight at night. Electricity came to my village only after independence.

The Namibian minister now has 12 university degrees under his belt including two PhDs.

The statement further said that during his recent doctoral studies, Mushelenga had to switch supervisors, but he overcame the challenge. He said:

I proceeded with a new supervisor. I further had other demanding responsibilities as a family man, pro-bono lecturer at the University of Namibia, Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister.

Against all odds, I remained determined to complete my studies. With God being gracious to me, I sailed through and completed my second PhD.

Transporters and clearing agents are expected to lead by example and shun acts of corruption and enticing members of the Security Services through corrupt tendencies.

The Security Services express their most profound gratitude to the public including bus operators and others who have continued to report cases of corruption at the country’s points of entry and exit.

The public is strongly encouraged to report all incidents of corruption to ZRP National Complaints Desk on 0242 – 703631 or WhatsApp 0712800197 for swift action to be taken by authorities.

Ginimbi’s Assets “Grow Legs”

By A Correspondent- The family of late businessman and socialite Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure has filed an urgent High Court chamber application to stop creditors from attaching his assets until the parties agreed on the distribution of his estate.

Kadungure’s sisters Nelia, Juliet and their father Anderson said some of his properties, including a Bentley had gone missing while some haulage trucks and cars were still in the custody of his various associates.

They submitted that Kadungure’s Botswana company, Quick Gases (Pty) Ltd, was facing closure with creditors lined up to grab it.

They are seeking authority to stay litigation processes to prevent the closure of the company and a final order granting them leave to execute a High Court order dismissing local lawyer Patricia Darangwa as the executrix of Ginimbi’s estate.

The order could not be effected after Darangwa appealed at the Supreme Court.

The family lawyer, David Chogureyi Dhumbura said the matter was urgent.

“FNB Bank Botswana has instituted foreclosure action against one of the deceased’s major investments called Quick Gases (Pty) Ltd which is also reeling under dire effects of closure from the time of the deceased’s demise and risks further indebtedness,” Dhumbura submitted.

“The action is over some loans borrowed (sic) during the deceased’s lifetime. There is need for Juliet and Nelia, as the newly appointed executrixes, to regularise the directorship of the said Quick Gases and resume its operations as soon as possible.”

According to the family, Darangwa has been trying to illegally dispose of Kadungure’s immovable properties in Botswana in violation of extant provisional order of the High Court barring her.

“We cannot risk having the deceased’s company assets going under the hammer. This no doubt it affects what we get as residue and imperils the company as a whole,” Juliet submitted.

The matter is still pending.

ZimPost Employee Steals Over US$3k, Fakes Robbery To Conceal Crime

By A Correspondent- A Zimpost employee based in Buhera allegedly hatched a plot to steal US$3 100 and ZWL$2 500 from his employer and faking armed robbery to conceal the crime.

Brandon Matongera (24) hired four accomplices, Tinashe Juru, Liberty Mwenye, Tafadzwa Joshua Musasa and Anthony Jaha, to rob his workplace and then gave them US$500 as a reward.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Manicaland Province, Inspector Nobert Muzondo, confirmed the arrests.

He said on March 23, Matongera who was employed as a counter clerk at Zimpost Buhera and also as an agent of Access Forex reported for duty and started cleaning the shop. Added Insp Muzondo:

In his initial report to the police, he said while he was cleaning the veranda, two unknown suspects came to the shop and he went inside to assist them.

Matongera claimed that he was robbed by the suspects after one of them pulled out a firearm.

Matongera claimed that the ‘robbers’ demanded cash and he led them to the counter where he unlocked the safe and surrendered US$3 100 and $2 500 and ZWL2 500.

After taking the cash, the two ‘suspects’ took Matongera’s phone and force-marched him to their vehicle which was parked outside the post office.

Matongera claimed that the suspects bundled him into their vehicle which was being driven by the third suspect.

Matongera also claimed that he was dropped at a bushy area near Nerutanga Business Centre.

According to Insp Muzondo, Matongera said that he then went back to the road and boarded another vehicle which took him back to Buhera and made a police report.

But three days later, police established that a Honda Fit which was registered under Enos Dara had been used to commit the crime.

When Dara was contacted by ZRP, he confirmed that the vehicle belonged to him, before adding that it was being used as a taxi by Musasa.

Musasa was arrested and he implicated Matongera who had purported to be the complainant.

Further police investigations revealed that Matongera had staged the armed robbery case to steal cash from his employer.

Zim Woman Jailed For Drug Trafficking In Seychelles

Esther Vambe

By A Correspondent- A Zimbabwean woman has been sentenced to five years in prison for the importation and trafficking of controlled drugs in Seychelles.

Seychelles’ Supreme Court on Thursday sentenced Elsie Esther Vambe (45) to five years in prison for the importation of a controlled drug and another five years for trafficking a controlled drug.

According to the Anti-Narcotics Bureau (ANB), the sentences will run concurrently, which means Vambe will be imprisoned for five years

Vambe pleaded guilty to both offences. She was given two five-year prison terms instead of the six years each, which apply to such offences after the judge considered certain facts.

The presiding Judge, Mohan Burhan, noted that Vambe is a first offender and pleaded guilty to all charges and this was considered by the court before she was sentenced.

The court heard that Vambe was arrested on October 26 after the ANB found 1.51kg of heroin and 503.70g of cocaine that she had hidden in the toilets on an Air Seychelles flight from Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Zimbabwean is the first foreign national to be sentenced on controlled drug charges in Seychelles this year.

The Indian Ocean island nation has a zero-tolerance drug policy and has recently put in place several measures to combat the trafficking of illicit drugs on its shores.

Witchhunt For Zanu PF Stalwarts Who Voted For President Chani

By A Correspondent- The ruling ZANU PF party has allegedly launched a witch-hunt targeting its members suspected of voting for Nelson Chamisa’s Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in the 26 March by-elections.

ZANU PF is not bothered by how the people of Zimbabwe exercise their rights

It would be probably found out that there are some rogue elements within the society that has nothing to do with the ruling party.

ZANU PF is focusing on rapid urbanisation where it is targeting to restore order in service delivery in cities that have suffered years of neglect under the opposition MDC leadership.

ZANU PF won 9 of the 28 contested parliamentary seats while Chamisa’s CCC got 19 in Saturday’s by-elections.

The ruling party actually made significant gains since two of the nine seats it bagged were won by the opposition MDC Alliance in 2018.

Mwonzora Pleads With Chamisa For Political Survival

By-Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa and his rival MDC Alliance leader Douglas Mwonzora have reportedly resolved to end their dispute and work together ahead of the 2023 elections.

NewsDay reported sources as saying Chamisa and Mwonzora met at a hotel in Harare and agreed to form an alliance. Said a source:

The magnitude of defeat on a party that was once a force to reckon with and the embarrassment brought on the late Morgan Tsvangirai’s legacy pushed Mwonzora to his senses.

Mwonzora confirmed engaging Chamisa but refused to give details of the agreement. He said:

As I said earlier on Monday, there is no bad blood between me and Chamisa. We are both opposition leaders fighting for the same common goal which is to better the lives of Zimbabweans. I cannot say anymore, but yes, I reached out to Chamisa.

Chamisa also confirmed the meeting but was also coy on the details of the pact. He said:

I can confirm that I talked to Mwonzora this week. In due time, we will inform our supporters.

The meeting came after Mwonzora’s MDC Alliance failed to win a single seat in by-elections held on 26 March.

Chamisa’s CCC party won 19 and ZANU PF took 9 of the 28 contested parliamentary seats.

Chamisa launched CCC early this year after Mwonzora expropriated the MDC Alliance name and symbols.

Chamisa By-election Victory Komichi Sleeps With Shoes

By- MDC-T national chairperson Morgen Komichi said that he has no clue as to why his party performed dismally in the 26 March by-elections.

The MDC-T, which contested the elections as the MDC Alliance, failed to win a single parliamentary seat from the 28 that were contested.

The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa won 19 seats while the ruling ZANU PF won all the remaining seats.

In leaked audio in which he is speaking to a person only identified as Mukucha, who is apparently a member of the MDC-T, Komichi said:
The truth of the matter is that the people rejected MDC, to them MDC is no longer a party, MDC is just a puppet of Zanu.

Even if you add the votes won by MDC and Zanu in areas that were won by CCC, our combined votes are less than those garnered by CCC.

The audio of the leaked conversation below, is on Heart & Soul Television.

Susan Mutami, Mliswa Find Each Other

BY- Australian-based Zimbabwean socialite and healthcare worker Susan Mutami said that she has reached a truce with her ex-lover Temba Mliswa and the two have decided to co-parent their minor son.

Mutami and Mliswa have been involved in ugly verbal spats on social media over the upkeep of the child.

Mutami has been accusing Mliswa, who is Norton MP (Independent) of neglecting his son, while the latter at one point demanded a paternity test for the child.

In a post on Twitter this Thursday, Mutami said she and Mliswa have decided to bury the hatchet. She wrote:
In the spirit of forgiveness, myself and Temba Mliswa have decided to forgive each other and co-parent in peace and let the young man experience love from both parents.
I have Bamnini [Setfree Mafukidze] to thank for counselling us. My son can’t wait to have a relationship with his dad.

Temba Mliswa is a good dad to his children and Tino is looking forward to getting his father’s love, lots of cuddles and FaceTime calls with his 19 siblings.

Another Mugabe Minister Freed

By- Harare magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti-Guwuriro has freed the former Labour and Social Welfare Minister Petronella Kagonye.

In her ruling on Wednesday, Harare magistrate Muchuchuti Guwuriro said the investigating officer and the State indicated that there was no sufficient evidence to build a case against her.

Kagonye was accused of defrauding Shingiriro Housing Cooperative of US$18 000 after she allegedly received money promising them residential stands.

A bookkeeper, who was supposed to testify during the trial is said to be outside the country and Guwuriro stated that the evidence of Joyce Chiroodza, the complainant, was not enough to sustain the allegations.

She also said the documents of the cooperative were also not enough.

The magistrate also noted that the other matters were withdrawn by the complainants who alleged that they were forced to report lies against the accused.

Kagonye was facing three counts of fraud and she was acquitted on two counts but the magistrate said she has a case to answer on the third count.

She had applied for discharge at the close of the State’s case but Guwuriro ruled Kagonye must be put to her defence.

On the third count, Kagonye is accused of taking 20 computers from the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (POTRAZ) for her constituency.

The magistrate ruled that Kagonye should reveal the location of the computers that were taken from POTRAZ.

She is also expected to tell the court who her brother, Evans Kagonye, gave the computers to and how many were received.

ZEC Speaks On Vote Rigging

By-The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has dismissed allegations that it rigs elections in favour of the ruling party Zanu-PF and instead, said its electoral processes are some of the best in southern Africa.

ZEC spokesperson, Jasper Mangwana, said people who criticise ZEC do not understand the law governing ZEC operations.

Speaking at a Twitter space on the March 26 by-elections: Lessons for the 2023 Elections organised by CITE in partnership with the Zimbabwe Electoral Support Network (ZESN) on Tuesday evening, Mangwana said:

We are independent and impartial. It’s unfortunate. I think because of the narratives and some speculation happening but at times if you look at the commission it would be good for us to be taken into account according to the law.

I will be waiting to see evidence on this. I was moving around in Harare to see and visited agents of all political parties, asking them and all said they were happy, (voting) was quite clear and transparent including how people are coming in to vote.

This issue of vote stuffing and ballot papers disappearing is not a reality because of how the electoral process is structured.

The electoral process is very transparent not only in Zimbabwe but I think in the region. We have one of the most transparent electoral processes when it comes to casting votes so I think this is quite key for people to look at that.

Mangwana claimed some complaints that were raised against ZEC had nothing to do with the Commission and challenged opposition legislators to reform the Electoral Act in Parliament.

He said ZEC has an open-door policy and is willing to engage all stakeholders to ensure that it delivers free, fair and credible elections.

Douglas Mwonzora

Dear Editor.

How I wish it was true – MDC-T And MDC Alliance President Senator Douglas Togarepi Mwonzora has resigned as as the President of the party and quit politics for good. He revealed he is quiting with immediate effect leaving with bitter words about the “harshness” that comes with being a political party leader. He handed over the leadership to MDC-T national chairperson Morgen Komichi who is now the Acting President of the party. He said he wants to spend more time with his family.

It’s not clear why he quit, but sources say the bad performance in the just ended by-elections and pressure from his colleagues could have pushed him to resign. He announced his resignation immediately after the party’s Standing Committee meeting at Harvest House which ended around 12 midnight. Mwonzora, in a statement on his Website, Twitter and Facebook, complained that one of the only certainties in politics was “that there appears to be no limit to what some will say or allege or do to gain an advantage over a perceived enemy”. I have been abused and called all sorts of names and l understand because its part of our politics,” read the statement.

His statement adds “After a long time giving everything I could for the movement, it’s now time to give more of what is left to those around me whose love has been unconditional. l want to thank the MDC-T family for the love and support since they voted for me to be their leader in December of 2020. I feel my political career, in the sense of actively leading a political party, fighting election campaigns and fighting for a better Zimbabwe, I think now’s the moment to say I have done it and have had enough. Its time to say good bye to the MDC-T family, good luck for the future and God bless you”

Efforts to contact Mr Mwonzora were fruitless as his mobile phone remains unreachable. His spokesperson Witness Dube refused to confirm or deny that Mwonzora has resigned and quit politics. He told this page to wait for the press conference today at 12 noon Zimbabwean time.

Maimane Roasts Mnangagwa

By- Mmusi Maimane, the One South Africa Movement (OSAM) coordinator said Southern African countries affected by an influx of Zimbabwean migrants should push Harare for a free and fair election in 2023.

Maimane is Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa’s close ally.

Millions of Zimbabweans have migrated to South Africa, Namibia, Zambia and Botswana among other regional countries, over the past two decades in search of better economic prospects, thereby straining social services in the receiving countries.

In a post on Twitter, Maimane described Zimbabwe’s ruling party, ZANU PF, as regional cancer which must fall. He said:
The solution to the Zimbabwean/ South African immigration crisis involves us advocating for free and fair elections in 2023. The CCC led by Chamisa won 19/28 seats in the by-elections.
Without rigging and violence, @edmnangagwa has no chance. Next year Zimbabwe will be free.

We cannot be more involved in Cuba and in Ukraine matters than we are in issues that affect us.
The oppression in Zimbabwe directly affects SA. We pay the cost in health facilities being strained, in labour disputes and it has sown seeds of animosity. That is why it must fall.
ZANU PF is the regional cancer draining South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. It’s costing us.
We cure cancer by removing the tumour. By going through chemotherapy.
Panado does not cure cancer. Some people are chasing cosmetic solutions. I am going directly for the cancer.
Responding to Maimane, one Muse indicated that despite CCC winning 19 seats, ZANU PF had actually won two seats previously held by the opposition while retaining all the seats it held before.Wrote Muse:
Mmusi open up your eyes, CCC candidates returned the same seats they were occupying before recalls, if you check properly Zanu PF managed to gain two constituents previously occupied by MDC/CCC whatever so, in reality, Zanu PF now have two more extra seats.
Malume Pfene concurred with Maimane and urged the opposition leader not to be like former South African president Thabo Mbeki who allegedly condoned electoral fraud. Said Pfene:
I totally agree. Zimbabweans had no history of crossing the Limpopo until ZANU PF ruined the country.
All we need from SA and SADC is support during and after elections. We are capable of running our own affairs. Don’t condone election theft like Mbeki.
