Tinashe Sambiri|Citizens’ Coalition For Change leader President Nelson Chamisa has said the abuse of ZRP cops by the Zanu PF regime is totally unacceptable.
Police on Saturday violently dispersed CCC members in Gokwe as they blocked President Chamisa’s rally.
President Chamisa accused the Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa of arrogantly scheduling his rally for Kwekwe, countering the CCC rally in the process.
President Chamisa wrote on Twitter:
THE ABUSE OF POLICE UNACCEPTABLE..We had no single policeman in Highfield or at any of our rallies. Our rallies are not covered by police. They just disrupt our activities.Police are only for Zpf.
They don’t have police to cover the rally, but they have police and arsenal to block us.
So low! But Why?? We were the first once to notify the police about our Kwekwe and Gokwe rallies. ED countered by provocatively and arrogantly penciling his rally for Kwekwe. We don’t accept bullying!!
The government of Zimbabwe has signed a contract an agreement with itself and then afterwards celebrated it all all saying that teachers have agreed to its proposals to pay them 100 US dollars per person.

Tinashe Sambiri|Citizens’ Coalition For Change leader President Nelson Chamisa says Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa is responsible for the violent disruption of the opposition party’s rally in Kwekwe on Sunday.
One CCC member, Mboneni Ncube was murdered by Zanu PF activists at the rally.
23 CCC supporters were seriously injured after being attacked with machetes, petrol bombs and iron bars by known Zanu PF activists.
Addressing a media briefing in Harare on Monday, President Chamisa said:
“Mr Mnangagwa is unwilling to stop violence. Zimbabwe is now a gangster’s paradise. The country is in the hands of gangsters.
Yes, they threatened to attack us but our message is very clear.Young people need jobs, young people are hungry…
Violence will not bring food on the table.”
By Dr Masimba Mavaza | The 27th February 2022 was indelibly marked by political violence on the streets of Kwekwe Zimbabwe which emanated from a rally addressed by the CCC party. This came a day after ZANU PF and Zimbabwe president Emerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa pleaded for peace on a rally in the same town.
Exacerbated by the inflammatory messages from one Bvondo Who urged the youth to fight causing clashes with police, unidentified paramilitaries and armed vigilantes who were later arrested hiding in the former minister of state security lodge.
Most recently this occurred in Gokwe where CCC militants were seen attacking the police with assortment of weapons and stoned.
This is the ugly face of political violence which has no place in the new dispensation.
Political violence is violence which is perpetrated in order to achieve political goals or to disrupt a political process. It can include violence which is used by a state against other states (war) or it can describe violence which is used against non-state actors most notably a political party against another political party or against citizens. It can also describe politically-motivated violence which is used by non-state actors against a state (rebellion, rioting, treason or coup d’etat or it can describe violence which is used against other non-state actors.Non-action on the part of a government can also be characterized as a form of political violence, such as refusing to alleviate famine or otherwise denying resources to politically identifiable groups within their territory.
Due to the imbalances of power which exist between state and non-state actors, political violence often takes the form of asymmetric warfare where neither side is able to directly assault the other, instead relying on tactics such as terrorism and guerrilla warfare. It can often include attacks on civilian or otherwise non-combatant targets. People may be targeted collectively based on perception of being part of an ethnic, religious, or political group; or selectively, targeting specific individuals for actions that are perceived as challenging someone or aiding an opponent.
Many groups and individuals believe that their political systems will never respond to their demands and they thus believe that violence is not only justified but also necessary in order to achieve their political objectives. Similarly, many governments around the world believe that they need to use violence in order to intimidate their populaces into acquiescence. At other times, governments use force in order to defend their countries from outside invasions or other threats of force and coerce other governments or conquer territory.
What happenned in Kwekwe is so sad and its a paten which is making Kwekwe a violent town and it is doing a disservice to His excellence the President. We know that the answer to violence is never violence but CCC was culpable too as they urged their youth to fight which caused the death of two and the serious injury of many.
The attacks were unprecedented in recent Zimbabwean political history and have prompted fears about the growth of political violence in democratic politics during the coming elections.
Such escalations evoke a long-standing criticism about the “right of resistance”, which can include the use of violence to oppose injustice.
While the violence should be condemned with the scorn it deserves the behaviour of CCC was atrocious and demonic. It can never be said a right to defend one self such a right would destroy the very stability of society that makes the enjoyment of individual rights possible.
If a person could rightfully resist the agents of the law when they simply believe themselves to be oppressed, then the law ceases to exist. Can you imagine a world where conscription officers are shot, leaders of press gangs are thrown into the sea and judges set upon by dagger-wielding convicts. It would send society back to the state of nature of a war against all.
This hobgoblins it conjures, relies upon a caricature of the right of resistance. Violence is never a trivial choice. When violence is resisted it will be through violence.
Supporters of justifiable resistance have never characterised it as an easy choice for someone to make. We must realise as humanity that a “long train of abuses” and the absence of remedies to these abuses as pre-conditions for resistance is the fertile grounds for violence. The bar is always set high, because resistance carries tremendous risks. You can be arrested, imprisoned, or killed for engaging in acts of resistance – especially violent resistance. It is not a trivial choice to challenge an oppressive or violent outfit.
Denying the right to resistance poses a far greater threat to a decent society than embracing it. It would mean that people would be expected to passively endure the most extreme injustice. Slavery, genocide, apartheid – all of these would have to be tolerated by bystanders and endured by victims. To deny the right to resistance collapses the very notion that we have rights at all, because they would ultimately rest on the discretion of those with power.
But political violence is the sort of thing that democracy is supposed to prevent. Some have argued that democracy transforms, as if by alchemy, the irreconcilable antagonism between enemies into the civilised disagreement of rivals. This makes a presumptive norm against violence an intrinsic part of any democratic society – but that’s not the same as absolute prohibition.
We cannot be naive about democracy. The idea that political violence has no place in democratic politics relies on the assumption that democratic states are incapable of severe injustice. This is accompanied by a dogmatic belief that severe injustices – if they do occur – will be remedied by the exercise of voting, the protection of individual rights by the court, or, at the extreme, civil disobedience.
Severe injustices can still happen in a democracy but the violence shown on Sunday embarrassed us as a nation and indeed as a party.
Political violence is a persistent and severe injustice that has yet to be resolved by democratic processes.
The veneration of non-violence does not engage with the deeply entwined relationship between peaceful resistance and armed struggle especially among opposing parties.
This is not a call to romanticise political violence. Far from it. Violence is the last resort of desperate people and it is often less effective than non-violent alternatives. But it cannot be dismissed out of hand or erased from history because it makes us uncomfortable.
The events in Kwekwe are more than the moment of madness. We mist insist that violence does not justify violence.
To those who argue that this reasoning also justifies violence from the CCC members that position does not stand up to scrutiny. In the first place, it pretends that violence has not been unleashed already.
Absence of Democracy is a severe and intransigent injustice in the Zimbabwean political space. One cannot compare those fighting against it with those fighting to maintain it. You cannot wash your hands and say both sides are equally bad.
Kwekwe has presided over violence with no bounds. Kwekwe has been reduced to a 15th century city which was built on blood.
It is a town where gangs armed with pangas spears and all sorts of traditional arms roam around the streets causing havoc disturbing peace and re writing Kwekwe’s history in blood.
The gangs are armed with pangas spears swords and knobokerries and they have been called Mashurugwis.
Many a time people have complained and protested about these machetes wielding blood sucking killers. The sad thing is that they have always been associated with one MP who has been recently sacked from the government.
The same MP hit the headlines when he brought machete wielding Kwekwe brigades to a ZANU PF meeting in Gweru making officials scary for cover effectively abandoning the meeting. The president acted swiftly to restore order and fired the gangster from government.
Rolling it back the same gang under the command of the same man disrupted an election process for primary elections in Kwekwe. He injured the sitting member of parliament of Shurugwi North and the late Colonel who both had to be treated of serious injuries and the primary elections where abandoned.
Kwekwe is the town leading in murders by machetes and all accused persons would hide in the lodge belonging to the ma believed to be behind these violent gangs.
Again Kwekwe was notorious of Machete armed gangs who demanded thirty percent of all gold mined in the area. They demanded the hold saying it was needed by the head of state.
All this went unpunished. Yet again the bloody thirst vampires attacked a rally being addressed by another overzealous violence inciter Nelson Chamisa.
This attack ended in several injuries and death to one Mr Ncube.
Chamisa in all this is shedding crocodile tears he is now weeping more than the bereaved.
It was very clear that most CCC youth were visibly drunk and obviously acting in a drunken stopper.
Making things worse an MDC official Mr Bvondo urged his intoxicated youth to fight the violent machetes gangs. In that infamous persuasion the drunken CCC youth where seen kicking and punching people even those in yellow.
The violence of the day should be blamed on both parties. This includes CCC and the Mashurugwi.
As usual CCC has decided to make the unfortunate situation a political launching pad. They have made the whole issue a political one.
As expected Chamisa rushed to his handlers crying foul. He made it appear that the whole nation is now in turmoil. As usual Chamisa is seeking self pity and started on the blame game.
He has started to donate the Kwekwe thugs to ZANU PF.
We must never forget that the opposition in whatever name they have they love to blame ZANU PF. When they split they blame ZANU PF. When they attempted to kill Khupe and Mwonzora at a funeral they blamed ZANU PF. When their rallies are not attended they rush to blame ZANU PF. When they fight against each other they blame ZANU PF. When they recall each other they blame ZANU PF. When Job Sikhala forms MDC99 they say he is ZANU PF When they they star factional fights they again point at ZANU PF. MDC or CCC whatever name they have they blame ZANU PF. It is high time for MDC CCC and whichever name they have must learn to be responsible.
Zimbabwe must stand together as one and condemn violence. What happened in Kwekwe was the united effort of the thugs and CCC.
The police must call Bvondo in for questioning

Fadzayi Mahere:
dark cloud hangs over us as we mount the sad loss of Mboneni Ncube (30, male) who was attacked with a spear and murdered in broad daylight in Kwekwe yesterday by Zanu PF thugs.
His only crime was to believe in a brighter Zimbabwe where all are free.
May his soul Rest In Peace.

Tinashe Sambiri| Citizens’ Coalition For Change leader President Nelson Chamisa will on Tuesday unpack #Agenda 2022.
This was revealed by Citizens’ Coalition For Change spokesperson, Advocate Fadzayi Mahere on Saturday.
Said Advocate Mahere:
“Our Citizen Champion in Chief, Adv @nelsonchamisa will deliver his Agenda 2022 address virtually on Tuesday evening at 7pm.
By all accounts, he is the hope of the nation. Let’s all tune in.
Follow the @CCCZimbabwe Facebook page so you don’t miss out!!!”
By- Zanu PF is using the former MDC senior member Blessing Chebudo to denounce the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).
Chebundo defected to Zanu PF last year, and Zanu PF has been parreding him on its rallies.
On Saturday, Chebundo was at a Zanu PF rally in Kwekwe where he was praised by the party’s vice President, Constantino Chiwenga while threatening violence on Chamisa.
Said Chiwenga:
I have heard others here saying down with triple C, let me assure you that there is nothing that it can achieve, you see how we crush lice with a stone.
You put it on a flat stone and then flatten it to the extent that even flies will not make a meal out of it.
You heard Blessing Chebundo speaking here, that people should not oppose for the sake of opposing.
You can’t oppose every time, even the best thing can’t be opposed, you opposing as who, we are as big as Goliath, we will see him when time is ripe.
By-Zanu PF National Secretary for Legal Affairs Paul Mangwana recently told village heads in Chingwizi to pledge the number of votes each will bring to Zanu PF on the March 26 by-election.
Mangwana was speaking at a rally organised by Zanu PF in the Chingwizi area. He called all village heads and cell chairpersons, telling them to pledge the number of votes each will bring to the ruling party in the upcoming by-election.
“I want all the cell chairpersons here and all village heads to come here. We are in a war and these are our field commanders so you have to listen to them. So I want them pledge to us how many votes each is going to produce for Zanu PF and (Master) Makope on 26 March.
“After this meeting, leadership, I want to you to sit down with these people and each one should tell us the votes he or she will give to Zanu PF and Cde Makope from his area in the upcoming election. After the election, we will have another rally here where we would want to see how each one of you has performed,” said Mangwana.
He went on to order the registry department operating in the area to be lenient with people so that they get access to identity cards and other important documents for them to register to vote.
“I also heard people complaining also against the registry department. We have brought their boss, the District Development Coordinator here. So DDC, please tell the registry department to be lenient with these people when they go to get IDs,” said Mangwana.
Speaking at the same event, Zanu PF chief whip and Gutu South MP Pupurai Togarepi labelled all the people in Chingwizi as belonging to Zanu PF saying victory was certain.
He went on to praise Zanu PF candidate for Mwenezi East Makope as the best saying he will soon have him in parliament.
“If you meet a woman or a youth in Chingwizi you have met Zanu PF. I want to thank you for that and I am happy because I heard Makope speaking and I knew as the chief whip in parliament that I have got another best MP,” said Togarepi.
Makope will battle it out with Free Zimbabwe Congress’ Turner Mhango and Tendekai Mandizvidza of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).
Zanu PF has been known to use traditional leaders to intimidate their subjects into voting Zanu PF, a trick that has worked over the years and gave the party control over the rural electorate.
Last year Chiefs were taken for induction together with the District Development Committee members who had been elected where they were inducted by members from the Hebert Chitepo School of ideology.
Mwenezi, Zaka and Bikita traditional leaders are known to be Zanu PF supporters and would force their people to vote for Zanu PF, threatening all those who vote for the opposition with unknown consequences.
Chief Nyakunhuwa of Zaka once bragged publicly that all headmen should join Zanu PF. TellZimNews

By- The Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) has noted with grave concern gross incidents of political violence and the use of state security agents to suppress and violently disrupt opposition political campaigns.
ZPP is disturbed by the growing incidents and notes with regret the loss of life and about seven citizens who have been seriously injured.
These incidents have a serious bearing on the credibility of not just this year’s by-elections, but on the entire electoral environment.
During the weekend there were various bloody attacks against Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) supporters in the Midlands province.
Citizens Coalition for Change supporters attending their rally in Kwekwe were attacked by ZANU PF activists on Sunday.
The incidents were reported to the police and they are listed under RRB 4878031-4878038. The police report they have arrested 16 suspects and they believe one is still at large.
Machete gangs suspected to be aligned to ZANU PF attacked a rally that was being addressed by Nelson Chamisa, killing two and seriously injuring others who are admitted to hospitals around Kwekwe. Several machetes were recovered in the cars the suspects were using.
The incident, which happened in what is believed to be the home ground of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, a day after he addressed a rally that had police protection, paints a dark picture of Zimbabwe’s politics and should be condemned. ZRP should investigate and ensure the law takes its full course.
ZPP notes that it is an irony that police managed to send a considerable amount of equipment and human resources to stop a CCC rally in Gokwe, but failed to send enough manpower to protect the another legally sanctioned CCC event in Kwekwe, which was invaded by the machete gangs.
The Kwekwe incident happened as other CCC activists had to fend off alleged ZANU PF supporters, who petrol bombed a tent set up for a rally in Chitungwiza.
On Saturday, CCC supporters had to run battles with police who wanted to disrupt a legally permitted rally in Gokwe.
On the same day in Epworth, Harare, a meeting organised by Linda Masarira was reportedly disrupted by ZANU PF activists.
It is unfortunate that the environment is not favourable for all other political actors except ZANU PF.
Since the formation of the CCC, ZPP recorded over 30 incidents of political violence with the ruling ZANU PF being the main perpetrator.
Police have also contributed to human rights violations and currently, dozens of CCC supporters are detained for holding a car rally.
Police have also deployed roadblocks, especially in Chitungwiza in a bid to disrupt opposition political activists wishing to attend rallies of their parties.
These incidents have happened just as the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has activated the Multiparty Liaison Committee, whose mandate is to ensure political parties adhere to peaceful and lawful campaign methods by their members.
ZPP appeals to ZEC to introduce post multiparty liaison committee briefings as citizens are concerned about their safety during this and subsequent elections.
Section 216 of the Constitution, gives the police the mandate to protect and secure the lives of the people and uphold the Constitution and enforce the law without fear, favour, or prejudice.
We expect the police to fully investigate these incidents from the weekend and any other incidents in the future and bring the perpetrators to book in accordance with the law.
It must be noted that civil and political rights are guaranteed under Section 67 of the Constitution.
In light of that, ZPP makes a strong call for peace and tolerance in the run-up to the by-elections, as this has a bearing on the credibility of the entire election process.
Political leaders have a responsibility to ensure elections become peaceful contestations.
It is up to the leaders of political parties to desist from hate language that fuels violence by their supporters.
Section 133G of the Electoral Act gives political parties and candidates the responsibility to discipline party members.
ZPP is alarmed by the remarks made by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga where he referred to an opposition leader as a ‘little Goliath’ who should be crushed with stone-like lice where even flies will not find anything to eat.
Besides Chiwenga’s language being unacceptable, knowing how such language where people are likened to animals and creatures has led to the outbreak of more violence, we believe this is meant to incite ZANU PF supporters to be violent towards opposition supporters.
We, therefore, call on Vice President Chiwenga on the basis of his position in ZANU PF and the government to do the right thing and retract his statement.
In conclusion, we strongly urge all stakeholders, including political leaders, parties, state security agents, other government departments and the generality of Zimbabweans to ensure the run-up to the March 26 by-elections is peaceful and that alternative views are tolerated
By- Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has claimed that police officers were aware of plans by ZANU PF to cause violence at the opposition party’s rally in Mbizo, Kwekwe, on Sunday.
Addressing journalists in Harare on Monday on the Sunday incident, Chamisa said ZRP officers reached out to him on Saturday night to inform him about alleged plans by unnamed senior ZANU PF officials to cause violence at the rally.
Chamisa added that the assailants also attempted to petro-bomb his convoy on his way to Mbizo 4 Shopping Centre where he was scheduled to address thousands of party supporters.
He said:
We appreciate the police for their professionalism. We understand how politics is poisoning policing.
The institution of the police is interfered with and tarnished by ZANU PF and works against the integrity of its members.
l have it in good authority that members of ZRP knew of the planned murders as early as the night before because they reached out to me but since the number was unknown I did not attend to the many calls until just before the event happened.
They were unable to take action to prevent the murders because of the institution.
The best these members could do is try to warn us, yet they should have arrested the people beforehand.
In order to emphasise without putting officers in trouble, we need not mention their names.
The police knew of the attack before it happened but because it was ordered by high-level ZANU PF, they were unable to act to prevent the violence.
Twenty-three (23) CCC members suffered injuries and were admitted to different hospitals in Kwekwe.
Mboneni Ncube (35), a small scale miner, lost his life after he was stabbed three times with a sharp object by suspected ZANU PF supporters. He leaves behind a wife and his 8-year-old daughter.
By-Zanu PF members are reported to be forcing teachers across the country to return to work by threatening to evict them from school accommodation if they fail to comply.
Suspected Zanu PF activists are allegedly moving around in schools and carrying out a headcount of the number of teachers in attendance and demanding an explanation from headmasters over absenteeism.
A school head who spoke to NewsDay on condition of anonymity for fear of victimisation claimed that Zanu PF activists were working in cahoots with elected individuals to intimidate teachers.
Zimbabwe National Teachers Union (ZINATU) chief executive Manuel Nyawo demanded that the security of teachers be guaranteed. Said Nyawo:
We are disturbed and angered as (ZINATU) that our members, who are citing incapacitation as they lodge their legitimate grievances to their employer, are being threatened by people who are masquerading as ZANU PF officials and activists.
We appeal to the employer to depoliticise all educational institutions countrywide, making them no go areas for any politician, whether from Zanu PF or the opposition.
We want the safety of our members and students guaranteed.
Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) president Obert Masaraure claimed teachers are not only receiving threats from Zanu PF activists but from State agents as well. He said:
Zanu PF is terrorising our members as has become their culture. In Chimanimani, teachers were displaced by threats of violence.
A total of 1 340 individuals have reported threats from both the State and Zanu PF functionaries.
Members remain steadfast demanding the restoration of pre-October 2018 salaries.
Teachers boycotted classes when schools opened for the 2022 first term on 7 February citing incapacitation.
The Government offered civil servants, including teachers, a 20% salary hike, US$100 cash and other incentives which they rejected as inadequate.
By A Correspondent- High Court judge, Justice Rogers Manyangadze, has reserved judgement in a case in which a Harare businessman is seeking an order to interdict Mines and Mining minister, Winston Chitando, from grabbing his gold mining claims in Mberengwa and awarding them to his company. allegations were brought to light on Thursday when Anesu Gold Mining and its director Yakub Ibrahim Mohamed dragged Chitando and his company, Gold Reef Mining before High Court judge, Justice Rogers Manyangadze seeking to interdict them from mining in the disputed area.
Prominent Harare lawyer, Advocate Tawanda Zhuwarara who is representing Mohamed told the court that for reasons known to himself, Chitando failed to defend the corruption allegations by either deposing an opposing affidavit or filing heads of argument since November last year when Anesu Gold applied for the interdict.
Professor Lovemore Madhuku who was representing Chitando made a last minute attempt to argue on behalf of Chitando. He said the allegations raised against the Mines Minister were serious and there was need for him to defend himself.
However, Zhuwarara argued that the time Chitando should have responded had lapsed and his lawyers never applied for an extension if they wanted him to respond to the allegations.
The mining claims, known as Mangoro were previously owned by, and registered in the name of, Start Mining Services (Private) Limited which has since changed its name to Anesu Gold.
Zhuwarara argued in court that Chitando abused his ministerial powers to forfeit the eight mining claims in Mberengwa and corruptly re-issued them in a Special Grant to Golden Reef Mining where he is a director and shareholder.
He said Anesu Gold was never given prior notice before its claims were confiscated.
“Thus despite the applicant having rights to the claims in issue, it was not afforded the opportunity to make representations before the forfeiture of its mining claims by the second, third, fourth respondents (who all qualify to be administrative authorities in terms of the Administrative Justice Act),” Zhuwarara submitted.
“The fourth respondent (Chitando) breached the provisions of the Administrative Justice Act for him to award the claims to his company and he chose the richest claims. The Applicant’s Founding Affidavit shows that there was corruption. The second fourth respondents clearly abused their power.
“It is not in dispute that the first respondent is on the mines in question, extracting minerals such that by the time the main case is finalized all minerals would have been extracted, and the resultant judgment will be a brutum fulmen. So this interdict is necessary to preserve the subject matter of HC5161/21, otherwise the applicant will suffer irreparable harm.”
Mohamed said Chitando was a director of Gold Reef Mining and shareholder through his company Windev Investments (Private) Limited.
He said in 2018, he secured a US$6,4 million Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe and Fidelity Printers and Refiners (Private) facility to finance the mining claims and operations, including the payment of the inspection fees for the mining claims but was shocked to learn later that they had been forfeited by Chitando.
Mohamed also said, he had secured an Australian investor to provide additional funding for the project.
Professor Welshman Ncube who is representing Gold Reef mining said several jobs will be lost if the interdict is granted. He said Anesu Gold lost the mining claims because it was holding them for speculative purposes.
According to the court papers, Anesu Gold initially owned a 70 % stake in Start Mining Services, while 30 % was held by Mberengwa Enterprises (Private) Limited owned by Rugare Gumbo.
Mohamed in his founding affidavit said he was now holding a 100% stake in the company after buying Gumbo’s 30 % shareholding.
He said in 2012, Gumbo approached Chitando before he became minister in an attempt to interest him to invest in the mining claims, but was turned down but in 2014 businessman Shingi Mutasa expressed an interest in the claims and invited the former Mimosa Mining boss to do a due diligence.
“I gave him all the write ups and information of the mining claims. Mutasa engaged Chitando’s team to carryout due diligence. Mutasa and Chitando chartered a small plane and flew to the mining claims for an inspection in loco. Mutasa did not come on board following due diligence for reasons best know to himself,” he said.
“It is necessary to note that although Mutasa did not come on board, Chitando’s team and himself, had all the data and information of the of the juicy areas of the mining claims and watch what followed later.”
CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe has refused to blame his team’s poor performance on the off-field crisis that hit the club in recent weeks.
The Green Machine suffered their heaviest league defeat in recent years after going down 6-2 at the hands of Manica Diamonds on Sunday.
The humiliation followed after the players have held several strikes in protests over unpaid salaries.
Speaking after the match, Chitembwe said: “This is a disappointing result, we lost it in the first half.
“We knew that we were going to lose one day, but the defeat has nothing to do with what was happening outside the football ground, we are going back to the drawing board.
“In fact, our situation has greatly improved and this is why I am saying the heavy defeat has nothing to do with the financial challenges that we faced in recent months.”
Manica Diamonds cruised to victory through the braces of Lloyd Katongomara and Charles Teguru as well as a goal apiece from Collin Dhuwa and Farai Mugumwa.

Dynamos lost 1-0 to Chicken Inn in a Castle Lager Premiership Matchday 5 encounter played at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Sunday.
The Glamour Boys dominated the early pace, with Emmanuel Paga missing a good chance in the 6th minute. The Ghanaian forward came back again later on, but his strike hit the outside of the post and went out.
Bill Antonio also had a great opportunity to score just a few moments before but was denied by the keeper.
The Gamecocks, on the other end, never threatened in the first period, and they only picked up after the break.
They broke the deadlock in the 79th minute through Brian Muza, who tapped in from a close range.
Dynamos never recovered and finished the match 1-0 behind.
In Bulawayo, Highlanders failed to build from last weekend’s victory as they fell 1-0 to Bulawayo City.
Melikhayi Ncube scored the solitary goal for City in the 48th minute.

By A Correspondent- A Glen Norah 1 High School science teacher has quit his job after his alleged love affair with a Form 4 pupil was exposed.
The Form 4 girl was caught texting the teacher, Gladwin Parawira, but he denied the two were dating. Said Parawira:
I never had an affair with that girl. I admit that we used to flirt and it is very unfortunate that the messages were caught after I stopped flirting with her.
I immediately stopped talking to this girl when I heard that she was telling some of the students that we were dating.
She began stalking me on Facebook, asking me who is who on my posts, but I ignored her since I knew she was troubled.
Parawira told H-Metro that he had decided to resign because the messages he used to send to the pupil were too explicit. He said:
I decided to resign from my job because the messages were nasty, and according to the law, I must not even say goodnight to a student, what more of the messages I sent her?

The Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) has noted with grave concern, gross incidents of political violence and the use of state security agents to suppress and violently disrupt opposition political campaigns.
In conclusion, we strongly urge all stakeholders, including political leaders, parties, state security agents, other government departments and the generality of Zimbabweans to ensure the run-up to the March 26 by-elections is peaceful and that alternative views are tolerated.

By A Correspondent- ZANU PF members are reported to be forcing teachers across the country to return to work by threatening to evict them from school accommodation if they fail to comply.
Suspected ZANU PF activists are allegedly moving around in schools and carrying out a headcount of the number of teachers in attendance and demanding an explanation from headmasters over absenteeism.
A school head who spoke to NewsDay on condition of anonymity for fear of victimisation claimed that ZANU PF activists were working in cahoots with elected individuals to intimidate teachers.https://zero.pindula.co.zw/market/featured/?limit=4
The Government offered civil servants, including teachers, a 20% salary hike, US$100 cash and other incentives which they rejected as inadequate.-newsday

By Nontokozo Malaba Ncube- In the last quarter of 2021, it seemed as though the political arena of Zimbabwe was hopeless due to the enemy -fuelled split in the main opposition party.
The turning of the tables was hatched overnight, and none could see it coming, not even the ruling party that was at this moment beaming with pride over their evil and desperate tactics to consolidate power that seemed to have paid off. It was not the formation of the new opposition party Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) that swept them by surprise, but the rallying of a huge number of supporters in no time.
The project “Consolidation of Power” has seen sleepless nights, sweating turning and tossing of the ruling party, planning what terror to unleash on citizens and frantically aiming to spread the culture of fear.
The legacy of using violence and brutality by ZanuPF stretches from the 1970s, a few years before Zimbabwe’s birth. It is in these years that several killings were perpetrated in the Mashonaland rural areas.
Women huddled together were burnt alive being called witches, men were tied on trees and shot dead being accused to be traitors and sympathising with the Rhodesian government.
This legacy of rural terror was consolidated by killings, sexual assaults, burning down of property and battery; violence in the election years, 2002 and 2008.
The Gukurahundi massacres in Matabeleland and Midlands are a deep scar on the face of ZanuPF that no gloss can ever cover bribe or intimidation.
Up to today the political silence and sheepish obedience to the ZanuPF regime in the rural areas is due to the notable years of suffering violence.
Soon after usurping power from his predecessor Mugabe, Mnangagwa’s regime shot dead 6 civilians in a peaceful protest. His regime continues with utter desperation to stay in power.
Things that describe the machinery ZanuPF and its effort to stay in power include; authoritarianism, patronage, self-enrichment, rigging of elections, limiting political freedoms, corruption, election violence, surveillance and intimidation, crackdown of protests, restriction on the rights of freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, unlawful arrests and detentions, abductions, assault, torture and killing of journalists, activists and their family members, raping and sexually assaulting female activists, excessive use of force, centralisation of government systems and power, unlawful dismissal of workers, and use of ideology and framing of the youths.
The rule of ZanuPF has been absolute, silencing people by violence yet carrying the liberation war narrative to legitimise such a rule. Zimbabweans have often felt disheartened, and the 2021 planted split of the opposition was meant to be the last blow to their political hope. The strong hearted Zimbabweans dared to hope again.
On Sunday, 19th February 2022, all roads led to Highfield, Harare in support of a CCC rally. Thousands of citizens gathered boldly cheering a need for change. Early in the week, CCC supporters who traveled in vehicles with speakers announcing the rally had been arrested, detained, and tortured.
In stark contrast to such use of violence pertaining to this very event, there was a massive turn up at the rally. Again, there were efforts to disrupt the rally on the day. The police erected a roadblock on the main road leading to the rally at Zimbabwe grounds. Supporters left vehicles and walked their way to the rally.
Zimbabweans once again have defied all odds and decided to hope for political change. Even in the rural areas, where the regime terror has been experienced badly, the chant ‘Ngaapinde Mukomana’ has been heard making a loud echo.
The phrase directly translates “let the young man enter” meaning it’s time for the young president Nelson Chamisa of the opposition party, CCC, to enter state administration and bring about change for a New Great Zimbabwe.

A NEW group of war veterans calling itself United War Veterans, which comprises Zipra and Zanla cadres has told Zanu-PF secretary for war veterans’ welfare Douglas Mahiya to stop abusing former liberation fighters by ordering them to campaign for the ruling party.
Members of the United War Veterans are drawn from former Zipra and Zanla liberation war fighters.
Last weekend, Mahiya urged war veterans in Tsholotsho to play a leading role in campaigning for the ruling party in the March 26 by-elections and the 2023 general elections.
Mahiya made the statement in Tsholotsho during a campaign rally for the Zanu-PF by-election candidate for Tsholotsho South, Musa Ncube.
“The reason I am here is to introduce our candidate Ncube. The President [Emmerson Mnangagwa] has asked war veterans to lead in the campaigns because they know why they fought to liberate this country. We need to defend the revolution, hence the need to educate the people on the importance of voting for Zanu-PF,” Mahiya said during the rally.
Zanla representative in the group Godfrey Gurira urged Mahiya to stop forcing the former freedom fighters to a take partisan stance.
“We went to war in order to have certain freedoms such as ‘one man one vote’. War veterans should stand aside and let people that they liberated choose who they want to vote for. We do not want people who just toe the line without giving their whole mind to it. What guarantee is there that Zanu-PF should always be the custodians of the ideals of the revolution, what if it goes astray? Some war veterans no longer take Zanu-PF seriously,” Gurira said.
He said the ruling party arrested war veterans that demonstrated over low pensions and should not seek their allegiance.
“Zanu-PF is only interested in using us to campaign for it, but is not interested in our welfare,” he said.
Zipra representative in the group Petros Sibanda said every war veteran had the right to support a political party of their choice, not just Zanu-PF.
“We can no longer afford to be used as campaign tools for Zanu-PF,” Sibanda said.
In past elections, the ruling Zanu-PF party used war veterans to instil fear among the masses during electoral campaigns.

Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) president Nelson Chamisa has strongly condemned Zanu-PF for instigating the violence which rocked his rally in Kwekwe Sunday.
One CCC supporter died while 17 were seriously injured.
The violence was allegedly instigated by a Zanu-PF gang wielding machetes. This behaviour is synonymous with a local Zanu-PF aligned terror gang monikered Al-Shabab, after the Somali-based terrorist group.
Chamisa took micro-blogging site Twitter to express his disappointment.
“And this is what Zanu-PF intruders did to us. They were so angry because of the huge turnout at our rally. They unleashed violence using stones machetes and iron bars,” he tweeted.
Party spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere blamed Vice President Constantino Chiwenga for the violence that erupted moments after CCC president Nelson Chamisa’s arrival.
She quoted Chiwenga’s statement that Zanu-PF will “crush the CCC like lice” as having been inflammatory.
“At least 17 have been hospitalized while one person sadly lost his life following an orgy of violence by Zanu-PF thugs during President Chamisa’s address. They used spears, machetes and iron bars. We condemn the regime’s use of violence against our members,” said Mahere.
“This incitement to violence ought to have no place in a constitutional democracy. Violence against the citizens is not acceptable. We need new leaders.”
Some of the injured were treated by CCC medical assistants following a wave of attacks in the crowd and at the VIP tent occupied by the party’s top brass.

By A Correspondent- Mines and Mining Development minister has been caught up in a corruption storm after a Harare businessman accused him of using ministerial powers to grab his gold mining claims in Mberengwa and awarding them to his company.
The allegations were brought to light on Thursday when Anesu Gold Mining and its director Yakub Ibrahim Mohamed dragged Chitando and his company, Gold Reef Mining before High Court judge, Justice Rogers Manyangadze seeking to interdict them from mining in the disputed area.
Justice Manyangadze reserved judgement.
By- Zanu PF thugs on Sunday killed a Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) supporter.
The killed supporter who was killed during a CCC rally in Kwekwe has been identified as Mboneni Ncube, a male aged 35.
According to CCC national spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere, Ncube was attacked with a spear and murdered by Zanu PF activists during a campaign rally at Mbizo 4 Shopping Centre in the Midlands town. Said Mahere:
A dark cloud hangs over us as we mount the sad loss of Mboneni Ncube (35, male) who was attacked with a spear and murdered in broad daylight in Kwekwe yesterday by Zanu PF thugs.
His only crime was to believe in a brighter Zimbabwe where all are free.
Reports indicate that stone-throwing thugs armed with machetes stormed the rally while CCC leader Nelson Chamisa was addressing his supporters.
Chamisa calmly told party supporters not to run away. The CCC youths swiftly fought back and subdued the attackers.
By- Three blood-thirsty thieves went on a rampage in Bulawayo, axing two people in the space of two days while also attacking anyone they met with a knobkerrie and knives, among other dangerous weapons.
This emerged when the trio, Kholisani Nyathi of Mabutweni, Nkosikhona Sibanda (25) of 71868 Lobengula West and Walter Mpunzi also of 71868 Lobengula West last week appeared before Western Commonage regional magistrate, Shepard Mjanja on charges of murder as defined in section 47 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23 and were remanded in custody to 10 March.
The trio’s rampage began on 12 May last year at around 6pm when they struck the now deceased Misheck Rindai Mapeta with an axe and knobkerrie on the head.
The trio met Mapeta along a footpath in Pelandaba West, attacked him with an axe, knobkerrie and knife which they used to stab him in the eye.
The trio stole a cellphone and a forge torch before fleeing. Mapeta succumbed to his injuries.
A day later, on 13 May, two of the gang members — Nyathi and Sibanda went to Mabutweni Shopping Centre to collect money from one Frank Sibanda of C21 Njube, a firewood vendor.
The duo reportedly found Sibanda holding an axe and one of them forcibly took it from him and threatened to kill him with it resulting in their victim running away.
The two members of the murderous gang then reportedly ran amok and began assaulting everyone they met along the road with axes they had in their possession.
The duo then met the now deceased Joseph Mawa Moyo along a footpath near a stream that separates the suburbs of Mabutweni and Njube.
Nyathi struck Moyo on the head twice with an axe and the deceased sustained two deep cuts after which Sibanda robbed him of his cellphone and they made good their escape.
Moyo was ferried to Mpilo Hospital where he received treatment, but unfortunately died the following day.
Witnesses who saw the trio’s rampage provided information which led to their arrest and they confessed to the crime.
The murder weapons used in the commission of the crime were recovered from Nkosikhona Sibanda and following indications, two stolen cellphones were also recovered.
After confessing to their crime, the accused persons assisted the investigating officers with indications at the crime scene.
According to court documents, the accused persons have a litany of other charges that are in the courts including attempted murder and armed robberies.
They are facing one attempted murder charge and six charges of armed robbery.
After their arrest, the two confessed to murdering Mapeta and the knobkerrie used was recovered.
They also gave indications of their actions at the crime scene.
Meanwhile, a 24-yeard old man from Cowdray Park appeared before the same magistrate facing charges of attempted murder.
In the State’s case outline, on 24 December last year, Onesimos Sibanda and his accomplices named as Marvelous Siwela, Knowledge Siwela, Walter Siwela and Nqobile Ndlovu approached the complainant, Francis Dube and asked him to buy beer for them.
Dube reportedly told the gang that he had no money, but was searched and robbed of US$70 by Marvelous Siwela.
When Dube asked for his money back, the six men became violent and assaulted him with bricks.
Onesimos Sibanda who is reportedly known as “Bhuru” then stabbed Dube on the neck near the collar bone and again on the right side of his waist.
Dube died days after he was admitted to Mpilo Central Hospital.
Of the six members of his gang, Sibanda is the only one who was apprehended and his accomplices are still at large.
He was remanded in custody to tomorrow for trial.
By- A Nyanga man decommissioned a grinding mill that he bought in 2019 and dumped it in nearby bushes after spiritual healers told him that the machine was bringing misfortune to his family.
Phillip Mafemera of Mazarura Village in Nyanga was left homeless after his entire homestead was razed down by a mysterious fire that started in broad daylight.
Spiritual healers had warned him that the grinding mill he bought from a neighbour was causing mysterious occurrences at his home.
Mafemera lost his bedroom, granary and the structure which housed the grinding mill to the fire.
He said he dumped the grinding mill in the bush because the family that sold him the mill was refusing to take it back.
Mafemera was recently brought before acting Chief Saunyama’s court after Charles Chibvuri caught him performing rituals with maize-meal at his house.
The accused did not deny the allegations and said he was forced to perform the rituals after the Chibvuri family had refused to take back their grinding mill which he believes is cursed. Said Mafemera:
For two years, they have been refusing to take back their grinding mill even though it was causing mysterious things at my home. Every night, I would see the shadow of a man at the grinding mill.
We have endured the scary occurrences for a long time. The shadow acts as someone guarding the grinding mill. At times the shadow would chase us.
The grinding mill never worked ever since I bought it. Mechanics would tell me that it was in perfect working condition, but it still did not work.
That is when I consulted spiritual healers who told me that there was a need for spiritual cleansing as the grinding mill was cursed.
They are the ones who told me that there was a shadow watching me ever since I bought the grinding mill.
Mafemera said Madzibaba Anthony Chirangeni instructed him to take grounded maize-meal to Chibvuri’s home and perform some rituals.
He said the spiritual healer warned him that if he did not return the grinding mill to its owner, someone would die in his family.
The traditional court ordered the Chibvuri family to restitute the three cattle used by Mafemera to buy the grinding mill.
On his part, Mafemera was fined six beasts for performing rituals at a neighbour’s homestead without their consent.
In an interview with The Manica Post, Chibvuri denied the allegations that his family sold Mafemera a cursed grinding mill.
He said when the grinding mill was sold to Mafemera, it was in good working condition and the issue was that he was no longer able to maintain it.
Chibvuri criticised the judgement as unfair, saying he should have been made to reimburse Mafemera part of the payment that he made because he used the grinding mill for two years.
By- Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has officially endorsed the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga for the presidency.
Addressing delegates of the Mt Kenya region last week, Kenyatta urged his community to support Odinga, saying he has the best interests for the country.
Kenyatta snubbed his Deputy President William Ruto and decided to back an opposition leader, Odinga.
He said he will have no problem supporting Ruto in future if he reforms. Said, Kenyatta:
I’m asking you to support Raila Odinga as he means well for the Country. When ‘my young man reforms’, we will consider him.
This is the first time President Kenyatta was publicly telling his community that the ODM leader was his preferred successor.
He told the Sagana III meeting that Odinga was the best fit not only for the Mt Kenya region but Kenya ta large.
Odinga (77), served as the Prime Minister of Kenya from 2008 to 2013.
He was the main opposition candidate in the 2007 presidential election, running against the then incumbent Mwai Kibaki.
In the subsequent presidential election 5 years later, Odinga came out second against Kenyatta.
He made another attempt for the presidency in August 2017 against Kenyatta.
The electoral body declared Uhuru Kenyatta the winner with 54% of the votes cast to Odinga’s 43%.
However, the outcome was eventually annulled by the Supreme Court following findings that the election was marred by “illegalities and irregularities”.
A subsequent fresh election ordered by the Court was won by Kenyatta when Odinga declined to participate citing inadequate reforms to enable a fair process in the repeat poll.

Why does WHO consider air pollution a major public health emergency? If you live in areas with high levels of air pollution, does COVID-19 impact you differently? Hello and welcome to Science in 5, I’m Vismita Gupta-Smith. We are talking to Dr. Maria Neira today.
Welcome, Maria. Maria, let’s start with why does WHO consider air pollution a major public health emergency?
Dr Maria Neira
Hello, everyone. Well, when you have more than 7 million premature deaths every year, every single year associated with exposure to air pollution, I’m sure that everybody agrees that this is a major public health issue. Actually, nine out of every 10 people around the world, particularly those living in cities, are breathing air that is not consistent with what WHO considers the good standards according to our air quality guidelines for breathing and still be healthy. And, you know, for many years, we thought and most of the diseases linked to exposure to air pollution were considered only to be affecting our respiratory system. And this is still true. Very much. Exposure to air pollution is responsible for chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, lung cancer, pneumonia, name it. But in addition to that, we know now that these toxic particles will come to our lungs and from there to the bloodstream will reach our cardiovascular system and then be responsible for ischemic heart diseases, for neurological disorders, for stroke, for neurological problems as well in general and reproductive system issues. So, as you can imagine, all of those reasons tell us consider that air pollution is one of the biggest public health issues we are confronting today.
Vismita Gupta-Smith
Maria, if a person is living in a highly polluted environment where whether air pollution levels are very high. Does COVID-19 impact them differently?
Dr Maria Neira
Yes, we have now more and more scientific evidence. One reason is that exposure, long term exposure to air pollution will affect your immune system and therefore will make you more susceptible to any type of respiratory diseases. And obviously, COVID-19 is a respiratory disease. In addition to that, we know that exposure to air pollution will increase the risk for chronic diseases like cardiopulmonary, like metabolic diseases, diabetes. And we all know now that those diseases are the so-called co-morbidities that will increase the risk for more severity and even later outcome if you are a patient with COVID-19. So, yes.
Vismita Gupta-Smith
Maria, when we think about air pollution, it seems like the scale is so big and what can we do to reduce it? Share with us some examples of initiatives that governments and organizations took, which actually reduced air pollution.
Dr Maria Neira
Well, clearly the best way to reduce air pollution will be stop burning fossil fuels. I mean, that combustion of the fossil fuels is contributing not only to climate change, but to generate this high level of pollutants that then end up in our lungs. So changing that policy around which source of energy we are using will be one of the most effective. Legislation, go for enforcing the air quality guidelines of WHO. But if we go to concrete measures, of course at the city level, you have measures now going for change in the transport, the public transport system they have, promoting more sustainable ways of public transport, reducing the use of private cars, going for more efficient energy use of our buildings, making sure that they reduce the traffic congestion in certain areas. And we can see that all of those measures are immediate. They have immediate positive outcomes. Obviously, as an individual, the best you can do is to put pressure on your politicians, on your mayors. Make sure that there are systems to monitor the air quality that you are breathing every day in your city. And by doing so, ensuring that measures are taken at the political level. If the situation on air pollution is really bad, if we take measures, there is optimism. You can see that in European countries, for instance, or North America, the situation improved very much in the last 20 years. We are still far in other parts of the world and we still need to put in place measures on sustainable transport, a clean and modern use of energy sources and all our way of consuming, recycling. And therefore we will be able to tackle this huge problem of air pollution. Tackling the causes of climate change will bring enormous benefits as well on reducing the causes of air pollution and therefore contributing enormously to our health.
Vismita Gupta-Smith
Thank you, Maria, for explaining this link, this interconnectedness between our health and that of the planet. Thank you very much. That was Science in 5 today. Until next time then. Stay healthy, stay safe and stick with science…

President Chamisa Takes Fourth Chimurenga To Gokwe
26.02.2022
The People’s President and Commander of the Fourth Chimurenga, Advocate Nelson Chamisa today led from the front in Gokwe as people power once again reigned supreme over state machinery.
With the police barring the People’s President from addressing the citizens, President Chamisa pulled a first and still addressed the citizens through action.
A public appearance at Metro Peach Wholesalers by President Chamisa send citizens who looked dejected because of rally ban into wild frenzy.
All the citizens wanted was a glimpse of their man, but for strange reasons the police responded by throwing tear gas canisters and spraying citizens with poisoned water.
Much to his credit, the People’s President did not waver. He proceeded right through the tear smoke to address thousands of Gokwe citizens, not by words but through action.
Non verbal communication and non violent action was on display!
President Chamisa simply walked side by side with the citizens -no word but just waving his index fingers to which the citizens responded with ululation and jubilation.
Not even tear smoke could deter the Fourth Chimurenga battle at Gokwe Centre!
If there was any ounce of doubt from some Thomases about the readiness President Chamisa to govern, those doubts were put to bed today.
The President is ripe and ready to lead!
A New Great Zimbabwe is loading.

By A Correspondent- Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga yesterday issued chilling threats against the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) saying the ruling party was ready to “crush the party like lice” to prevent its leader Nelson Chamisa from winning elections.
As if to lend credence to Chiwenga’s threats, opposition CCC supporters were being tear-gassed by police in Gokwe to prevent Chamisa from holding a campaign rally at Gokwe centre.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa was in Kwekwe at Mbizo stadium addressing a campaign rally where Chiwenga warned that the ruling party was unflinching in its resolve to ‘crush’ the CCC ‘like lice’.
“I have heard others here saying down with triple C, let me assure you that there is nothing that it can achieve, you see how we crush lice with a stone,” Chiwenga said.
“You put it on a flat stone and then flatten it to the extent that even flies will not make a meal out of it.”
Chiwenga said Zanu-PF was as big as the biblical Goliath and would not allow Chamisa to seize State power in an election.
Ironically, the Biblical Goliath was felled by a young David with one stone.
“You heard Blessing Chebundo speaking here, that people should not oppose for the sake of opposing. You can’t oppose every time, even the best thing can’t be opposed, you opposing as who, we are as big as Goliath, we will see him when time is ripe,” Chiwenga warned.
Mnangagwa spoke out against violence after Chiwenga’s threats.
“It is undemocratic to be violent against democracy,” Mnangagwa warned.
“The country is built by its owners.
“It is, therefore, important for you in the coming by-elections to vote for the Zanu-PF candidates because these are the owners of the country.
“If you vote for the opposition they won’t be able to develop this country because they are not the owners.”
As has become tradition, Zanu-PF commandeered Zupco buses to ferry thousands of party supporters to welcome Mnangagwa in his home province where youths were treated to live music by hired artists.
Mbizo Stadium was filled to capacity and each person was given a flag, T-Shirt and cap as they entered the stadium.
Top leadership of the party arrived in fuel guzzling, brand new SUVs of all makes withToyota Landcruciers topping the list, followed by BMW’s and Isuzu twin cabs.
The poor were crammed in Zupco buses, most of them without number plates and looking almost new.
As if sensing the odd structure of the display of power, Mnangagw said: ‘”You are the bosses and we the servants, if you decide not to vote for us we will leave this place, so you are our boss.”
The rally was organised to campaign ahead of the March 26 by-elections.-standard
By A Correspondent- The government of Zimbabwe has informed all students who have left Ukraine to urgently get in touch with the government official in Poland.
The government has already dispatched an official to Poland to organise their stay in Poland and buy their tickets to Zimbabwe.
In a Twitter message, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Int Trade said,
“The Government wishes to inform all students who have left Ukraine to urgently get in touch with the government official in Poland. The government has already dispatched an official to Poland to organise their stay in Poland and buy their tickets to Zimbabwe.”
“All those who are stranded and wish to travel to Zimbabwe will be assisted.”
By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) says it is weeding out corrupt employees following a scandal at toll gates in the Midlands where several employees were allegedly caught stealing from its coffers.
On Friday, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) said it had arrested more Zinara employees in Shurugwi that were involved in the alleged theft of $6.8 million from a tollgate.
“Two more Shurugwi tollgate employees (have been) arrested for fraud,” Zacc said on Twitter.
“Supervisors Lilian Svinurai and Peter Pikita are facing allegations of 234 counts of fraud involving $6,8 million.
“Seven other employees at the tollgate were arrested in 2021. ZACC remans unrelenting in fighting corruption in Zimbabwe.”
Zinara officials yesterday acknowledged the arrest of its former employees, who resigned during the investigations by ZACC and Zinara last year.
The officials said the organisation instituted thorough investigations after receiving a tip off from ZACC in 2021 that some employees stationed at the Flamingo tollgate in Gweru were abusing the Zinara prepaid cards.
“We are working closely and cordially with ZACC and last year they tipped us that there were some employees who were abusing our prepaid cards at Flamingo tollgate,” said the official.
“Our risk and loss control and audit departments instituted thorough investigations that resulted in 16 employees being brought before disciplinary hearings.
“Out of the 16 employees, 10 resigned before the hearings and six were dismissed based on the overwhelming evidence that showed that they were involved in fraudulent activities.
“We compiled a detailed report that we shared with ZACC as part of our collaborative efforts.”
Zinara has set up a full-fledged risk and loss control department to work closely with law enforcement agencies in tracking all reported cases of corruption within the organization.
Since its inception, the risk and loss control department has investigated several cases of corruption and shared its findings with ZACC for possible prosecution, the official said.
To enhance transparency and entrench a culture of accountability, it is understood that Zinara with technical assistance from ZACC has also set up an integrity committee to strengthen its systems in the fight against corruption.
Last week the new Zinara board led by George Manyaya said it was building a new institution that respects the ethos and tenets of good corporate governance.
The board said it had taken a bold stance against corruption and was enhancing Zinara’s ICT systems to reduce manual transactions which are usually prone to manipulation.-standard
By A Correspondent- Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals has denied allegations of negligence by the mother of a four-year-old girl who died from severe burns while admitted at the health institution.
Catherine Charumbira alleged that staff at the Parirenyatwa neglected to attend to her child, Dephine Gwerevende, possibly causing her death a few days after she was admitted to the hospital.
Dephine, who was an ECD A pupil at Little Rider preschool in Tynwald suburb, sustained burns to 17 per cent of her body on Monday last week.
She accidentally tipped a pot of boiling water from a stove before slipping and rolling in the water resulting in burns on her back, arms and right leg.
Dephine’s mother said she was immediately rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital where nurses put her on a drip and admitted her into the resuscitation room.
Charumbira alleged that thereafter, nursing staff at the hospital completely ignored Dephine who succumbed to her injuries on Friday morning.
She said nurses kept telling them they were looking for specialist doctors who deal with burns, and at one point, one of the nurses told her to go to a private hospital.
Charumbira said nurses only started attending to the child after they had made the call to a senior Government official.
However, Dephine’s condition continued to deteriorate in the coming days and despite doctors undertaking a procedure to drain bloody phlegm from around her chest area, on Friday, she died the same day around mid-morning.
Parirenyatwa Hospital spokesperson Linos Dhire denied allegations of negligence, saying a post-mortem and further investigations will help determine the cause of death. Said Dhire:
Indeed, the child was presented at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals as an emergency with burns on her back and the right leg.
She was taken straight to the resuscitation room where all critical emergencies are attended to.
A resuscitation room is an emergency Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is not a waiting room, so she was not neglected.
That is the room where she received drip (intravenous fluids) and some pain killers.
A casualty doctor immediately examined the child to determine the extent of the injury and prescribed appropriate medication, which was given.
The same doctor referred the child to general surgeons for take-over.
General surgeons attended to the child on the same day and after further examinations referred the child to plastic surgeons.
The plastic surgeon on call attended to the child on the same day and ordered admission to the ward.
The child remained under close supervision in the resuscitation room when all the above doctors attended to her until she was taken to ward B8 (Burns Unit) at 12 am.
So she was moved to the wards after doctors were satisfied that she had stabilised.
As such, the child was not neglected but the extent and nature of the injuries may have predisposed her to complications.
We have notes detailing the whole process.-statemedia
