Nick Mangwana Lies Saying BBC Content Has Been Banned On Facebook

By Farai D Hove | Govt Spokesman Nick Mangwana fell to the lowest of lows on Wednesday when he suggested that the social networking website Facebook has banned the British public broadcaster, BBC’s news video which exposes racism in Ukraine.

Nick Mangwana

Mangwana said this encounter has taught him that he must do the same in Zimbabwe, that is, to block the content of Zimbabwean news sites he finds inconvenient to his views. He said the development justifies the banning of websites.

He said: The restricting of access to certain “inconvenient” content and the banning of sites and platforms not aligned to accepted narratives has taught me one thing; freedom of expression and the freedom of the media are cards only played to the advantage of those who set the rules.

Contrary to Mangwana, the BBC has not been censored at all by Facebook. When challenged, the government spokesperson remained mum.

Botswana Rapper In Barbaric Suicide Attempt

By- In a barbaric move, Botswana rapper/comedian Penene Ponono sent social media pictures of himself allegedly attempting to commit suicide during a Facebook live video.

In the video, Ponono could be seen climbing a tree with a rope in his hand. He wrote on his Facebook live video post;

People won’t understand what you going through until you act stupid… I am sorry I love you all.

It is not clear if it was a prank or not. But whatever that could be, the act was barbaric and unacceptable.

Ponono’s “suicide attempt” comes just a couple of days after South African rapper, producer and songwriter, Riky Rick Committed suicide.

Riky Rick, real name Rikhado Muziwendlovu Chifaro Makhado, died on Wednesday after allegedly committing suicide. He was 34-years-old.

Riky Rick was found hanging by his friends at his estate home in north Joburg. His friends managed to rescue him and immediately rushed him to the hospital. Unfortunately, it was too late, and he did not make it.

Riky Rick suffered from severe depression and previously made a video in which he talked about his mental condition.

Before he shockingly took his own life, Riky Rick spent his last moments penning heartfelt letters to his wife Bianca Naidoo and his two children Maik and Jordan.

In his suicide note, Riky Rick revealed he was struggling with depression and he couldn’t go on. He pleaded with his wife Bianca Naidoo and his two children to forgive him for giving up.

Chelsea Mentor Refuses To Comment On Russia, Ukraine War

Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel lost his temper and hit out at reporters during a presser on Tuesday after being repeatedly asked about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The German gaffer lost his cool while speaking ahead of the Blues’ FA Cup 5th Round encounter with Luton Town on Wednesday.

When asked about the situation currently unravelling in Ukraine, Tuchel said: “Listen, listen, listen you have to stop, I’m not a politician.

“You have to stop, honestly, I can only repeat it and I feel bad to repeat it because I’ve never experienced war.

“So even to talk about it I feel bad because I’m very privileged – I sit here in peace. I do the best I can but you have to stop asking me these questions because I have no answers for you.”

Chelsea are owned by Roman Abramovich, who on Monday was asked by Ukraine to help in the peace talks.

The Russian billionaire businessman gave stewardship of the club to trustees of Chelsea’s foundation last week in the wake of the crisis in his home country.

Asked if he was worried about the club’s future, Abramovich said: “We try to be calm, and we are calm in the centre of a storm or of some noise around us that we cannot control and we are not responsible for it,” he said.

“In the end it’s best to focus on what we love and what we do, and this is sports. And I think we have the right to focus on sports, the players have the right to focus (on it).”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

SuperSport United To Dismiss Kaitano Tembo ?

Supersport United are reportedly considering reshuffling their technical team at the end of the season, but it’s not clear yet how coach Kaitano Tembo will be affected.

According to South African outlet, The Citizen, the board will discuss the issue when they receive a report from the coach.

An unnamed source told the publication that the club might hire an experienced technical advisor to work with Tembo, get him a co-head coach or hire a new coach altogether.

“It is not that the team does not have any faith in Tembo, he is the son of the team and will forever be part of the fabric that makes up Matsatsantsa A Pitori,” revealed the source.

“At the same time, we have to understand that we are regarded as one of the top teams in the country and our performances in recent seasons do not reflect that entirely.

“The board will sit at the end of the season and go through the coach’s report and take it from there. But rest assured that there will be some changes in the club next season.”

Tembo has been at SuperSport United for over two decades now, both as a coach and player.

He has been at the helm for the past four years.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Sports Commission Committee To Run ZIFA Until End Of Year

The Sports and Recreation Commission’s Zifa Restructuring Committee’s term in office will run up to December 2022.

The nine-member committee, chaired by lawyer Blessing Rugara, will take over the operations at Zifa following the suspension of the board last year.

The Felton Kamambo-led executive was suspended by the SRC for “gross incompetence”.

However, the suspension contravened the Zifa constitution and FIFA statutes.

FIFA then imposed sanctions under article 13 of the FIFA Statutes, meaning the local football association lost all its membership rights.

The Restructuring Committee’s will hold a forensic audit of Zifa finances and review the Zifa constitution before coming up with a report.

The SRC will then engage FIFA and CAF to negotiate the lifting of the sanctions before the end of the year.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Abramovich Puts Chelsea For Sale

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has put the club up for sell, with Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss claiming that he is one of four parties to have received an offer.

Pressure has been mounting on Abramovich over the past week following Russia’s attack on Ukraine, and he could be hit with possible sanctions from the UK government targeting high-profile Russian businessmen.

The 55-year old has already stepped back from his duties as the owner of the Blues after handing over the the “stewardship” to the club’s Charitable Foundation.

In an interview with Swiss German-language newspaper Blick, Wyss, 86, has suggested he received an offer to buy Chelsea on Tuesday.

“Abramovich is one of Putin’s closest advisers and friends,” Wyss told the publication.

“Like all other oligarchs, he is also in a panic. Abramovich is trying to sell all his villas in England. He also wants to get rid of Chelsea quickly. I and three other people received an offer on Tuesday to buy Chelsea from Abramovich.

“I have to wait four to five days now. Abramovich is currently asking far too much. You know, Chelsea owe him £2 billion. But Chelsea has no money. Means: Those who buy Chelsea should compensate Abramovich.

He continued: “As of today, we don’t know the exact selling price. I can well imagine starting at Chelsea with partners. But I have to examine the general conditions first. But what I can already say: I’m definitely not doing something like this alone. If I buy Chelsea, then with a consortium consisting of six to seven investors.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Lawyers Bemoan Persecution Of Citizens In Nyanga

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwean Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) have said traditional leaders in Nyanga, Manicaland Province, are persecuted for wearing anything red between June and September.

In a statement, the lawyers said In his jurisdiction, one Village Head, Misheck Dirorimwe, does not allow his subjects to wear anything red from the month of September to June and anyone who violates the directives is fined. We present ZLHR’s statement:

PERSECUTION OF CITIZENS PLUMBS NEW DEPTHS IN NYANGA

THE persecution of citizens has plumbed new depths after a Village Head in Nyanga District in Manicaland province recently convicted and ordered one of his subjects to pay fines for wearing red apparel (red cap) in his jurisdiction.

The traditional leader recently took the unprecedented and bizarre decision in which he ordered an 85-year-old villager, Munashe Makunura of Tamunesa village, to pay US$20, four goats and two chickens after faulting him for allowing his grandson, who had visited him, to wear a red cap, a practice which is outlawed by Misheck Dirorimwe, the Village Head.

In his jurisdiction, the Village Head does not allow his subjects to wear anything red from the month of September to June.

Makunura, who was convicted and sentenced by Dirorimwe on 7 January 2022, was also charged for undermining authority of the Village Head by not presenting himself at a primary court session, where he was supposed to answer to the frivolous charges.

Makunura has now engaged two legal practitioners Kelvin Kabaya and Peggy Tavagadza of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, who are in the process of drafting an appeal seeking to set aside the odd decision of the primary court.

Church Leader Denounces Brutal Murder Of CCC Member By Zanu PF Hooligans

Tinashe Sambiri|The church has an obligation to speak out against political violence, Bishop Ancelimo Magaya of Zimbabwe Divine Destiny has said.

Bishop Magaya described threats by Constantino Chiwenga to “crush Citizens’ Coalition For Change like lice” as shocking and unacceptable.

Read Bishop Magaya’s full statement:

“Evil driven politics should stop” demands the church

The church is utterly shocked that Zimbabwean politics is still in this day and age deeply entrenched in hate speech, violence and bloodletting when other nations have embraced tolerance inclusivity and progressive nationhood.

Kenya has set a commendable standard for nation building when President Uhuru Kenyatta announced his endorsement to an opposition member. That is fatherhood at best, statesmanship par excellence.

The recent violence perpetrated on the CCC supporters resulting in the deaths of at least 2 people at a rally in Kwekwe came at the instigation of high-profile ZANU PF leader in which he clearly issued a warning to the opposition that Zanu Pf will crush them like lice. Such wicked statements from a supposed leader second in command in the governance hierarchy should never be tolerated at all.

Who shall remind this moribund rulership that similar irresponsible statements drove Rwanda to a very regrettable civil war in the 90s?

Of note though this time around, is the commendable conduct of the police who we understand quickly apprehended the culprits and just hope that no political interference impedes the justice delivery system. We have said it before and will say it again that our ZRP if not interfered with, are one of the most efficient and professional force, this side of the world.

The church also demands that government ensures good police coverage on all political party rallies for the safety of everyone.

The nation must stand against this violence prone political leadership and make it clear that such base, primitive and evil politics is totally un-Zimbabwean and if they cannot practice clean free and fair politics, they should just pack bags and allow the nation to move forward without them. After all, the economy has literally collapsed under such visionless leadership who have sought to hold onto power through hook and crook at the expense of acceptable democratic processes.

The tired mantra “we liberated this country” has long lost value because of the serious negation of the ethos of the liberation struggle which we all know.

The bible condemns the shedding of blood of innocent people and even the liberation struggle had this as one of its guiding principles during those years. How then in the name of the same struggle do we have people purporting to have liberated the nation, killing anyone of a divergent view when even the late Tongogara himself, said “we are fighting to see a free Zimbabwe in which white and black can freely co-exist” Further, if we truly uphold Ubuntu/Hunhu values, tribal differences will become insignificant amongst us.

Evil political leaders ought to be reminded that time for owning up to their deeds under the sun will come someday, and at times the consequences might be faced in this life and beyond the grave as well.

People’s innocent blood will always cry before their creator and the Political leadership of the day ought to be reminded that God is no respecter of persons.

The bible says “These things you have done, and I kept quiet: you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face” NIV Psalm 50:21

What then shall the nation expect in the forthcoming by-elections, what of the 2023 elections if ZANU PF and its cronies are not allowing free campaigning for just a Bye-election. The nation must wake up to the reality that Zimbabwe is under siege from these intolerant evil men ruling this nation by an iron fist.

The church as the voice of conscience speaking the mind of God will not keep quiet when evil raises its ugly head against the citizens.

Masvingo Man Asks “Prophet” Rushiri To Return His Wife, Vehicle

By A Correspondent

It’s now very difficult for ladies in Masvingo to go to church as one Madzibaba known as Prophet Rushiri is allegedly sleeping with every lady that comes to his church.

Reports claim Rushiri is a man of fake miracles and has many girlfriends and ushers that give him personal details about congregants,

He then claims it’s prophecy .He also hires people to perform fake miracles, sources have said.

One Madzibaba said his wife was snatched by Rushiri.

“My wife forced me to donate my only Funcago car to the man of God, later on I found out that they were dating.I still love my wife but Rushiri took advantage of my problems, please help me to tell Rushiri to give me back my wife” said one former congregant.

Lawyers Condemn Kwekwe Rally Violence

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) has condemned the violence that took place at a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rally held in Kwekwe on Sunday that resulted in the death of a 35-year-old Mbongeni Ncube. In a statement, the lawyers said:

ZLHR CONDEMNS ACTS OF VIOLENCE IN KWEKWE

ZIMBABWE Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) strongly condemns the acts of violence that took place at a Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) rally on 27 February 2022.

ZLHR urges everyone to shun political violence and all forms of intolerance towards members of different political parties.https://zero.pindula.co.zw/market/featured/?limit=4

ZLHR also calls upon Zimbabwean authorities to urgently investigate all incidents of political violence so that perpetrators of the heinous crimes can be held accountable for their actions.

On 27 February 2022, some suspected Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU PF) political party youths meted out violence to supporters of CCC political party, who were gathered for a rally at Mbizo 4 shopping centre, in Kwekwe.

The violence broke out while the leader of CCC political party, Advocate Nelson Chamisa, was addressing his supporters in an open space at the shopping centre. A number of suspected ZANU PF party followers disguised as CCC party supporters threw stones at the CCC members, injuring several people in the process. A man was stabbed multiple times during the skirmish that ensued and he subsequently lost his life after being admitted at Kwekwe General Hospital.

The deplorable acts of violence by suspected members of the ruling ZANU PF party are extremely concerning because they threaten Zimbabwe’s democracy and the rule of law. A thriving democracy depends on the respect for the fundamental rights of everyone by all members of society and tolerance towards people who may have differing political views. Violence is also a threat to the peaceful co-existence of all Zimbabwean citizens, regardless of their political opinions, association or background. Violence is also deeply condemned by international law.

The Constitution of Zimbabwe, in Section 52(a), guarantees everyone the right to be free from all forms of violence. The Constitution, in Section 155, also prescribes that electoral processes must be free from violence. The acts of violence by the suspected ZANU PF party youths flout these constitutional principles. The targeting of CCC party supporters by the ruling party’s supporters also demonstrates the latter’s wanton disregard for the fundamental right to freedom of assembly and association, which is enshrined in Section 58 of the Constitution. The unprovoked attacks on the CCC party supporters by the ZANU PF party youths also infringed the victims’ right to personal security, human dignity and right to life.

The prosperity of Zimbabwe’s democracy heavily depends upon the successful prevention of these politically-motivated violent acts.

Therefore, ZLHR calls upon:

• All members of society to shun political violence and all forms of intolerance towards members of different political parties;

• Members of the ruling party to condemn and desist from all violent activities;

• The authorities to urgently investigate the acts of violence that took place at the CCC party rally in Kwekwe so that the perpetrators can be held accountable.

• The authorities to take concrete measures that are designed to prevent politically-motivated acts of violence from occurring again in the future.

Nurses “Dump” Night Duties

By A Correspondent- Government employed nurses have stopped taking night duties declaring incapacitation and negligence by their employer, putting lives of patients at risk.

Zimbabwe Nurses Association (ZINA) president Enoch Dongo confirmed to NewZimbabwe.com that the health workers could not report for night duty because they are getting only ZW$1 000 in allowances for night duties per month and wanted an upwards review.

“We are not taking up night duty because of poor pay. The government has turned ignorant and is paying nurses ZW$1 000 per month for night duties which is not enough for one to travel to and from work at night,” Dongo said.

“It is costly to travel at night both financially and psycho-socially and that is not being recognised by the government.”

Dongo added: “We are reminding the employer that these allowances are based on work done during odd hours with little compensation. We have families that need to be taken care of,. We leave toddlers at home under the supervision of nannies who also need salaries at the end of the month and I am getting ZW$1 000 which is not worth the risk of travelling and working at night.”

Contacted for a comment, permanent secretary in the Health Ministry Jaspher Chimedza referred NewZimbabwe.com to the Health Services Board (HSB), which is the employer.

However, efforts to reach the HSB were fruitless.

Former British Army Soldier Fights Deportation

By A Corresondent- A former British Army soldier who fought in Iraq and returned from action with mental health issues is facing deportation.

Joram Nechironga, a Zimbabwean national, is due to be deported by the Home Office, but he says he fears for his life if returned after previously being tortured.

Lawyers are mounting a last-gasp legal challenge in the courts to prevent the father-of-two from being escorted to Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare.

Nechironga, who served on the frontline in the British army from 2002 to 2007, at the height of the Iraq conflict, developed PTSD following several traumatic experiences.

His supporters say his mental health was not treated until after he committed drink driving offences and an assault on a male family member.

Now he is receiving help for his mental health and drinking problem, Nechironga has turned his life around, his lawyers insist.

On a previous visit to Zimbabwe, in 2006, Nechironga said he was tortured for several days on suspicion of being a British spy.

After being released by the Zimbabwean authorities, Nechironga was told never to return.

The Home Office are unmoved and still want to deport him.

However, The Voice understands that Nechironga – who had been due to be removed tomorrow (2nd March) will not be deported until a late appeal is heard in court.

Melch Riyo, from Tann Law Solicitors, said: “Taking into account the nature of his offences, it is clear that Joram Nechironga’s offending history is inextricably linked to the PTSD that resulted from the traumatic experiences he had whilst fight for this country on the frontline.

“This is a poignant factor which cannot be ignored or disregarded”

Lawyers will argue that it is unfair to disregard the improvements Nechironga has made since getting help.

Nechironga witnessed army colleagues dying beside him in Iraq while fighting for Britain.

He returned from action with a drink problem, suicidal tendancies, anger issues, palpitations, nightmares and mood swings.

He has since had help for his PTSD from the Veterans Association and got a job in construction.

A supporter said: “Sending him back to Zimbabwe is no different to sending him back into relapse, discarding him and disregarding his self-sacrificial service in the British Army service.

“The fact that he is being deported because of actions that stem from PTSD which he got fighting for this country is unconscionable.”

In addition to the dangers he might face from the Zimbabwean military, are fears that the stress of being sent back, and the lack of veterans support, will set back his mental health and alcohol recovery.

A Home Office spokesperson said: “Foreign criminals should be in no doubt of our determination to deport them, and we make no apology for removing them to keep the public safe.

“The New Plan for Immigration will fix this broken immigration system and stop the abuse we are seeing by expediting the removal of those who have no right to be here.”

Harare Man Hauled To Court Over Attempted Murder

By A Correspondent- A Harare man, Brighton Chitekero Monday appeared before the Magistrates’ Courts facing attempted murder allegations.

On 25 February at around 1630 hours, the complainant, Pio Harutsanyi and Chitekero were involved in a road traffic accident along Robert Mugabe Road near Econet head office in Msasa.

However, Chiketero did not stop after the accident but drove off towards the city centre.

Harutsanayi then followed him and managed to block him when he was just near OK Mart Shopping centre in Hillside.

This did not go well with the accused who then became violent and took an iron bar from his car then hit the complainant about 4 times on the head.

The scene was then attended by ZRP Braeside which led to the arrest of Chitekero and the complainant was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Chitekero was remanded into custody and is to appear before the High Court on March 10 for bail application.

More People Voice Out Against Khupe’s Planned Move To CCC

By Jane Mlambo| While CCC vice President Professor Welshman Ncube and exiled former G40 kingpin Professor Jonathan Moyo have taken it upon themselves to defend the move to co-opt Thokozani Khupe in the new movement, their stance has faced massive resistance with party deputy spokesperson Gift Siziba castigating what he termed black market narratives meant to cause confusion.

This follows Ncube’s suggestion to rope in Khupe as part of efforts to mobilize the Matebeleland vote in favour of Nelson Chamisa.

“We have in the interim the mandate to communicate official party position on anything. Black market narratives are meant to cause confusion. Let’s be focused! the era of elite pacts is part of our past, never our future. Citizens will define the agenda & direction of the movement,” said Siziba.

Academic and CCC supporter, Dr Pedzisai Ruhanya said “That pact I would prefer is with a village head who mobilises thousands of voters in some rural area where the opposition has never won or some grassroots organisers in Gwanda, Chipinge, Mtoko, Zaka than some elites who want to go Parliament without the presidency.”

Kent University lecturer, Alex Magaisa has also voiced out against the move saying marriages of convenience only end up in heartbreak and tears.

“Politicians must work hard to win the hearts & minds of people who support their rivals instead of courting the rivals hoping for easy pickings. They will never be your people. Marriages of convenience between political elites create fiefdoms & only end in heartbreak and tears.”

Undertaker Spends Night With Corpse Over Covid-19 Burial Procedures

By A Correspondent- An undertaker was on Friday forced to spend a night with a corpse in Seke, after a stand-off with the deceased’ relatives, over Covid-19 burial procedures.

A man, only identified as Zindoga, of Nyaradzo Funeral Services, had to spend the night in a parked car, at the cemetery, with the body of Getrude Guzha.

Her relatives refused to get close to the body and grave as it was declared a Covid-19 case. Guzha died on February 19, 2022, due to Covid-19.

She was 57.

Guzha’s family members had a standoff with Nyaradzo, who brought one undertaker, for a burial where all Covid-19 protocols had to be strictly observed.

The burial went ahead the following day after police intervened.

Family spokesperson, Solomon Guzha (60) told H-Metro the family could not carry the body because it was deemed a Covid-19 case.

“We had a misunderstanding with the undertaker who wanted to involve villagers in burying a person who had died of Covid-19,” said Solomon.

“At first, we queried the positive result and wanted a retest because we were sure that Gertrude had been sick for some time.

“She had been staying in Glen View and later moved to Sunningdale before being taken to the village.

“We asked if she had died due to Covid-19, why did they not observe Covid-19 protocols?

“The undertaker came with the body by himself, without Covid-19 safety clothing, for the burial of a person said to have died of Covid-19.

“Everyone was scared of getting close to the body and the coming of the undertaker, by himself, posed more questions.”

He said there were also complications related to time.

“Besides coming alone, it was late for burial, according to our tradition.

“Hativige mufi kana zuva radoka saka azorara ega kumakuva ikoko.

“We had to take the matter to police and Nyaradzo officials beefed up their undertakers this morning (Saturday),” said Solomon.

Mourners observed Gertrude’s burial from a distance.

News Of Racism At The Ukrainian Borders Are Fake News, Says Nigerian Mum Despite UN Report

.. There are a few racists here and there just like in every other country, says Nigerian mother of three Nkiru Ojimadu.

Even these videos and hearsays going around that they refuse to take blacks and all, are not true too, the well known resident of Kyiv of many years, adds.

She continues saying:

People don’t understand the language, so that’s the root of their wrong perceptions.

Our knowledge of the language helped us a lot

Lately, SOME trains are for women, children and the old ONLY!!!

In some they take women, children, the old FIRST!! .

Our people, not understanding what they say, start pushing / forcing themselves in, being aggressive, hence them being rejected.

You need to see how animalistic SOME of our people behave at these borders. Lord?!! I was so ashamed being a black!!!

Women, children first, then later men. Everyone is allowed to go. But men must wait a bit. This is a common thing in wars and pandemics.

Ginimbi Died “Intestate”: Court Rules

Nelia, Juliet Kadungure and Kenny Mubaiwa

By A Correspondent- The late Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure’s two sisters, Nelia and Juliet, have been jointly appointed as executors to his estate.

The family convened a meeting at the Master of High Court yesterday, following a recent High Court ruling, which declared his unsigned will, and appointment of its executor, as null and void.

Ginimbi’s father, Anderson Kadungure, and his uncle Kenny Mubaiwa, also attended the meeting.

Prior to the High Court challenge, a questionable will had appointed Patricia Darangwa to be the executor while Ginimbi’s Lamborghini was given to his friend Kit Kat.

As it now stands Ginimbi died intestate (without a will).

“The family yesterday convened an edict meeting in compliance with what was ordered by the court, in order to restart the whole process and register the late Genius Kadungure’s estate.

“His father, two sisters and uncle attended the meeting and it was agreed that the siblings jointly perform duties of executor,” said the family lawyer, Shingi Ushewekunze.

Ushewekunze said the family will now start a fresh process.

“Now, the family, through the two sisters, will begin the normal administration of the estate and share the wealth as they wish.

“The court ruled in their favour and it is now on record that Ginimbi died without a will,” said Ushewekunze.

Lorraine Guyo Praises God After Surviving Car Crash

By A Correspondent- Actress and socialite, Lorraine Guyo, who survived a car accident last Friday, has praised God for giving her another chance.

The accident occurred in Braeside on her way back from Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.

In an interview with H-Metro, she said being alive, after such a terrible accident, was the most precious gift she could ever imagine.

“I just feel like God gave me another chance to show my talent and to fulfil all the desires of my heart,” said Lorraine.

“I have minor injuries, but I am fine. I didn’t seek any psychological help because it’s unnecessary right now I just need to praise God.

“I am able to do all my chores and everything on my own.” Lorraine said a lot of people didn’t expect to see her happy, so soon after the accident.

“People were surprised to see me at the NAMAs, maybe, they expected me to be down but I know I had genuine reasons to attend the awards.

“I was given an opportunity to present at the NAMAs, and it was my first time, can anyone skip that golden opportunity?

“Obviously, I couldn’t let that opportunity go. God blessed me with talent and I have to embrace it.

“I don’t think I owe anyone any explanation of what I have to do or not.”

She added: “Right now, I am not even worried about my car that was damaged.

“I am just grateful that I cheated death and I am here to witness my future.

“I got time to celebrate with other celebrities and friends at the NAMAs and that’s the best thing I could do to ease stress.”

She also urged people to love one another.

“I just urge people not to hold grudges, life is too short.

“We should just learn to love one another and support each other while praising the Lord for the gift of life,” she said. -H Metro

Khupe Re-Admission Plan Divides CCC

The opposition CCC is divided over plans to re-admit former MDC-T leader Thokozani Khupe as part of a party effort to rejuvenate the Matebeleland vote.

CCC vice President Professor Welshman Ncube ignited the debate when he posted statistics showing the declining opposition vote in Matebeleland while advocating for a United front against Zanu-PF which has been gaining ground in the largely ndebele speaking region.

“The imperative of convergence & unity in the southern provinces which inform the strategic options we have for 2023 are the electoral statistics for the Parliamentary elections. They never lie nor do they yield to slogans & emotions. We can only ignore them at our peril!

“In Byo, in 2000, we mastered 84% of the vote. ZANUPF 13%. Others 3%. By 2018 our percentage share had plummeted to 45%. ZANUPF had almost doubled its share to 25% and others (who included Khupe’s MDCT) stood at 30%. Thus the majority of voters in Byo voted against us in 2018.

“In Mat South, in 2000, we mastered 60% of the vote which gave us 6 of the then 8 seats. ZANUPF 36% & 2 seats. Others 4%. By 2018 our share had dropped to 30% worth 1 seat. ZANUPF had gone up to 48% worth 12 seats. Others stood at 22%.

“In Mat North in 2000 we got 74% of the vote & all the then 7 seats. ZANUPF 21%. Others 5%. By 2018 our percentage share had nose dived to 38%. ZANUPF up to 39%. Others 23%. This is the harsh reality that must inform our strategic options for 2023. I rest my case,” said Ncube.

His points were supported by Professor Jonathan Moyo who advised the movement leadership to ignore those who were against the admission of Khupe saying the move was about community and national interest.

“For 2023 the electorate in Matabeleland is better advised to put the community and national interests first, meaning the people first, and leadership politics last. So those who want to rant against Khupe, the person, are free to do so but they rants should fall on deaf ears,” said Moyo.

Meanwhile, social media users seems unimpressed by the move with some threatening to sever ties with the movement should Khupe be taken on board.

“We shall see, there are a whole lot of very good and popular leaders in Matabeleland, they are even more popular than Khupe in that Region. They stood with us when it mattered the most, we will never fold our hands while they are being sidelined for the Khupes and Mwonzoras,” said one user.

“This unity should never include chameleons who teamed up with the oppressor yesterday to destroy the hope of citizens for personal gain! Such people can’t be trusted to hold positions in the new movement but just be ordinary card carrying members. We need servant leadership,” another user said.

Kwekwe Murder Accused Zanu PF Stalwarts Freed

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum has reported that 11 of the 16 people arrested in connection with violence and murder at the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rally held in Kwekwe over the weekend have been released.

In a statement, the forum said:

11 of the 16 Zanu PF youths arrested for allegedly killing a CCC supporter at a rally addressed by opposition leader Nelson Chamisa in Kwekwe on Sunday have been released. Police did not give reasons for releasing the 11 facing such a serious crime.

The suspects, who are suspected ZANU PF members were arrested for the murder of 35-year-old Mbongeni Ncube, damaging several vehicles, and injuring many people, some of which were treated and discharged while some are hospitalised and are in critical condition.

The five who are represented by different lawyers were not asked to plead when they appeared before Kwekwe regional magistrate Florence Nago who remanded them in custody to March 15.

It is alleged that on February 27 at around 1530 hours, one of the accused persons stabbed Ncube with a sharp object thrice on the back. Ncube was rushed to Kwekwe General Hospital and was confirmed dead upon admission.

All the accused persons were positively identified by witnesses who alerted police leading to their subsequent arrest at around 5:30 pm on the same day.

They were found in possession of spears, knives and machetes.

It is alleged that the accused persons disturbed the peace, security and order of the public at Mbizo 4 Shopping Centre open space when they threw stones, spears, knives home-made petrol missiles and used sjamboks and catapults to inflict bodily harm to people who were at a CCC campaign rally.

The state opposed bail saying the accused might abscond court and are likely to interfere with witnesses. Tembo and Shoshera have pending attempted murder and murder cases respectively.

Teachers Unions Distance Themselves From Salary Deal

By A Correspondent- Some teachers’ unions have distanced themselves from a salary deal that was agreed and signed between the government and the National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC) on Monday.

This comes after it emerged that over 50 school heads and 32 teachers had been suspended after they stayed away from work citing incapacitation.

On Monday, the government announced that it had met with the Apex Council in the NJNC, where the union leaders signed the agreement sealing a recent salary deal that includes a 20% wage increase.https://zero.pindula.co.zw/market/featured/?limit=4

But some teachers’ unions said they were not part of the deal. Progressive Teachers Unions of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) president Takavafira Zhou said:

We were not involved.

Government, as usual, met with its praise singers in Apex Council, whose hands are greased by personal emoluments in parastatals where they are board members. It’s a travesty and insult to teachers for such people to misrepresent civil servants for personal gain. All civil servants are angry and apprehensive and no amount of lies and brutality can outstrip their anger.

In a statement, the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) said: “Artuz has noted the manufactured agreement between the government of Zimbabwe, who is our employer, and the Apex Council, that purports to represent workers unions.”

Tapedza Zhou, president of the Educators Union of Zimbabwe, said the “PSC (Public Service Commission) should stop manipulating the NJNC by congesting it with pseudo unions”.

But Apex Council secretary-general David Dzatsunga said PTUZ and ARTUZ were not part of NJNC. He said:

The PTUZ and Artuz are not part of the Apex Council because they opted not to belong to the organisation out of their own will.

So those members, who have opted out of the NJNC, cannot negotiate with the employer. That explains why the same members will not be able to sit down with the government for salary negotiations.

Teachers have been on strike since schools reopened on February 7, 2021, and according to Zimbabwe National Union of School Heads secretary-general Munyaradzi Majoni, almost 50 school heads and teachers had been suspended countrywide.-newsday

Suspected State Security Agents Steal Slain CCC Activist’s Body

By Jane Mlambo| Suspected state security agents have reportedly forced their way to the funeral of CCC activist, Mboneni Ncube amid reports that they descended on the family home and stole the body of the slain activist.

Ncube died following violence at CCC leader Nelson Chamisa’s Kwekwe rally where a group of over 20 suspected ZANU PF thugs started throwing stones at the thousands of people who were following Chamisa’s speech.

Tens of people were injured from the melee that has been condemned by a cross section of society.

Mbizo candidate for CCC, Settlement Chikwinya has confirmed the sad development saying Ncube’s family have been left terrified by obtaining situation at the funeral of their relative.

I have seen a tarified family, frozen as events turn out that the CIO is determined to bury@mbonenincube the same way they did @gifttandare. State has stolen the body in a movie style. Citizens we must liberate the Ncube family,” said Chikwinya.

Meanwhile, CCC leader Nelson Chamisa has cancelled his Bulawayo rally in order to attend the funeral of his party member.

From what is happening on the ground, there is more likely to be violence as CCC and the ruling Zanu PF fight for the body.

Another Minister Chitando Aides Nabbed For Corruption

By-Two top officials at the Mines and Mining Development ministry in Mashonaland East province were arraigned yesterday before the courts for criminal abuse of office charges after allocating mining claims without the following procedure.

Godfrey Dadirai (40), a geologist, and Racheal Nkomo (29), a survey technician, were both remanded out of custody on $20 000 bail each by Marondera magistrate Rumbidzai Munemo.

They will return to court on March 11 for trial.

The state alleges that in February 2019, Zimbabwe International Quarries Company submitted an application to the Mines ministry to register mining claims in ward 8, Mutawatawa, under prospecting licences 031157-60 to extract black granite.

The application was referred to the two accused persons for verification.

On April 16, Nkomo compiled a report which she addressed to the provincial mining director (PMD) stating that she had no objections to the registration of the mining claims.

On June 7 the same year, Dadirai also compiled his report, which he forwarded to the PMD highlighting that he had done the verification exercise and recommended that the applicant be awarded a certificate of registration.

Investigations by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) unearthed that the land in question was occupied by villagers and was not open to pegging and prospecting.

It was also established that there was no written consent obtained from Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe Zvataida Rural District Council.

Two other Mines ministry officers Tizah Mandava (31) and Zvinodaishe Mubariri (30) were also arrested for criminal abuse of office for illegally allocating black granite claims in UMP.

By-A Chiredzi boy who is just 18 will spend the next nine years behind bars after sodomising a boy from the neighbourhood.

Chiredzi Regional Magistrate Judith Zuyu suspended three years of the sentence bringing down the effective jail sentence down from 12.

The boy must be cursing his gods because had the crime been committed a year earlier, he would have escaped with a wholly suspended prison sentence because of age.

Learnmore Manganye (18) of Village 9 Chizvirizvi, Chief Tshovani, Chiredzi sodomised an eight-year-old boy until he had a running tummy and could not walk properly.
Manganye was found guilty of aggravated indecent assault.
The Mirror also attended the court session.
Giving sentence, Magistrate Zuyu said young boys are no longer safe due to unscrupulous people like Manganye.
“We used to get worried about our young girls being not safe but now our young boys are also not safe and young people are now living in fear because of people like you,” said Magistrate Zuyu.
The Mirror heard that on January 6, 2022 after midday, Manganye called the complainant who was playing with other kids and took him to a bush. He ordered the boy to lie down, removed his pants and inserted his organ into the back of the boy.
The boy cried for help but Manganye hit him on the head and continued penetrating him.

30 NGOs Banned

OVER 30 civic society organisations (CSOs) have been banned from operating in Makoni district, Manicaland province, after they failed to register with the local authority as ordered by the chief executive officer Manicaland province.
In a letter to the NGO Forum chairperson dated February 15, 2022, Pisa stated that all NGOs that would not have paid registration fees by February 28, 2022, would be banned from operating.

He then set renewal registration fees at US$100 and US$200 for new registrants.

“Please be advised that all NGOs operating in the district should have registered with the council by February 28, 2022. Failure to register the respective NGOs should cease operations,” Pisa’s letter read.

“The renewal fees for NGOs still stands at US$100 and new registration at US$200.”

The NGOs, through their lawyers from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), said they would challenge the ban.

“It appears that the Zimbabwean authorities are remaining intransigent, with Makoni Rural District CEO Edward Pisa writing a letter to the NGO Forum in Makoni district telling it that those NGOs, which fail to register with the local authority by today, should cease operations,” the ZLHR said yesterday.

“Our lawyer Taurai Khupe is assisting the NGOs in Makoni to challenge this purported ban. This purported ban of NGOs in Makoni comes less than six months after High Court judge Justice (Esther) Muremba ordered the government to stop interfering with, or stopping the operations of NGOs.”

In July last year, Harare metropolitan provincial secretary Tafadzwa Muguti banned all NGOs and private voluntary organisations, which defied a directive to report to him, from operating.

The High Court, however, ordered government to stop interfering with the operations of NGOs, trusts, civic society organisations and faith-based organisations in a court challenge against Muguti’s directive.

Government has put in place various measures, including crafting laws to clamp down on NGOs that it accuses of meddling in politics.-Newsday

Kwekwe Bloody Attacks: 5 In Court

Five suspects believed to be behind the violence that rocked a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rally at Mbizo 4 Shopping Centre last Sunday, have appeared in court facing murder and public violence charges.
Edmore Shoshera, Albert Maketo Tembo, Percy Mukwaturi, Talent Imbayago and Panashe Makuvaza appeared before Kwekwe Magistrate Mrs Florence Nago and were remanded in custody to March 15.

Police initially picked up 16 suspects but the bulk of them were released without charge.

The five were not asked to plead when they appeared before Mrs Nago.

According to prosecutor Ms Ethel Bhumure, the five, acting in connivance, stabbed Mbongeni Ncube with a sharp object leading to his death upon admission to Kwekwe General Hospital.

The gang also reportedly threw stones and spears and used knives and sjamboks as well as catapults to cause bodily harm to people who were attending the rally.

The group also allegedly damaged motor vehicles and deflated tyres leaving one person dead and many injured.

The five were represented by Liberty Mashanyare of Mavhiringidze and Mashanyare Legal Partners.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) in a statement, has condemned violent clashes and urged all political parties to shun all forms of political violence.

“As the country prepares for the by-elections to be held on the 26th of March, the ZHRC has noted with great concern the recent reports of violent clashes at rallies and calls upon all political parties and relevant stakeholders to shun all forms of politically motivated violence. Section 67 (2) (b) of the Constitution guarantees of own choice and therefore the Commission strongly condemns political violence as it is a violation of political rights and freedoms,” said ZHRC in a statement.

“Political tolerance should be encouraged and violence should be condemned by all political parties and actors.

“The Commission particularly condemns the use of inflammatory language by some political actors during campaign rallies which causes tension amongst members of various political parties.

“Political leaders have an obligation to not only ensure that electoral processes take place in a transparent and peaceful manner, but are also responsible for preventing and discouraging their supporters from resorting to any type of violence before, during and after elections,” said the statement.

The ZHRC also urged law enforcement agents to conduct their duties without fear or favour. “The Commission urges law enforcement agents to impartially enforce the law without fear or favour so that political parties freely hold their election campaigns and rallies without unjustified stringent measures or requirements,” said the statement. -Herald

Zanu PF Activists Terrorize Teachers

Suspected ZANU PF activists are allegedly moving around in schools and carrying out a headcount of the number of teachers in attendance and demanding an explanation from headmasters over absenteeism.

A school head who spoke to NewsDay on condition of anonymity for fear of victimisation claimed that ZANU PF activists were working in cahoots with elected individuals to intimidate teachers.

Zimbabwe National Teachers Union (ZINATU) chief executive Manuel Nyawo demanded that the security of teachers be guaranteed. Said Nyawo:

We are disturbed and angered as (ZINATU) that our members, who are citing incapacitation as they lodge their legitimate grievances to their employer, are being threatened by people who are masquerading as ZANU PF officials and activists.

We appeal to the employer to depoliticise all educational institutions countrywide, making them no go areas for any politician, whether from ZANU PF or the opposition.

We want the safety of our members and students guaranteed.

Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) president Obert Masaraure claimed teachers are not only receiving threats from ZANU PF activists but from State agents as well. He said:

ZANU PF is terrorising our members as has become their culture. In Chimanimani, teachers were displaced by threats of violence.

A total of 1 340 individuals have reported threats from both the State and ZANU PF functionaries.

Members remain steadfast demanding the restoration of pre-October 2018 salaries.

Teachers boycotted classes when schools opened for the 2022 first term on 7 February citing incapacitation.

The Government offered civil servants, including teachers, a 20% salary hike, US$100 cash and other incentives which they rejected as inadequate.- NewsDay

Mnangagwa Professionalises Prostitution

By-The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (Zimstat) has announced that it will be using the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) definition of employment to classify the country’s employment figures hence the inclusion of sex work as “employment.”

The government institution said it would be using this definition during the National Population and Housing Census to be held next month.

Zimstat yesterday said the 2022 Population and Housing Census to be held from 21 to 30 April will establish the country’s employment and unemployment rates.
ILO estimates that sex workers support between five to eight people with their earnings and they contribute to economic activity.

However, sex work remains illegal in the country while most people in the informal sector consider themselves unemployed despite generating incomes.

In an interview on the sidelines of the ongoing census training for provincial government officials in Bulawayo, Zimstat acting manager Surveys and Provincial Operations Mr Langton Chikeya said part of the census exercise will be to establish the country’s working population.
Mr Chikeya said anyone involved in profit generating projects, including sex work, will be considered to be a worker.
“If we get our working population then we are going to classify them into a labour force where we have people who are employed and those who are not employed. So, we define employment as work performed for others in exchange of pay, profit or family gain. So, those who are employed are employees for example, a statistician is an employee of a certain company and those who are self-employed or we can call them on account workers for instance vendors can be called on account workers, because they are doing work for profit,” said Mr Chikeya.
“You can also talk about sex workers, they are doing work for profit or family gain. We also have employers who also fall under the bracket of employment.”
He said another group of gainfully employed people are those working for a family business although they might be directly paid as they also get some form of benefits.
Mr Chikeya said employed individuals are those performing an economic activity to provide goods and services and are paid for it.
“But work excludes activities that do not produce goods and services. Activities such as begging and stealing we cannot consider that as work because they are not producing goods or a service,” he said.
Mr Chikeya said the census will also make a classification for individuals who will be considered to be unemployed.
“We have part of unemployment, there are three conditions that are supposed to be met if we want to say this person is unemployed. We are saying a person is unemployed if the person is without work, is seeking work and available for work,” said Mr Chikeya.
“If you do not meet any of these three you are not in unemployment. I think that is where most people get it wrong when they classify unemployment. You have to satisfy the three conditions if you are to be considered unemployed for you to be called unemployed.”
He said individuals who might not be working and are not seeking employment are not classified as unemployed.
Mr Chikeya said Zimstat is also seeking to establish the prevalence of child labour cases in the country.
“The census is looking at the working population so we are collecting information on people who are 10 years and above. Usually, we are supposed to collect information for 15-year-olds and above that is the working age population. So, we have included the 10-year-olds and above so that we can capture data on working children,” Mr Chikeya.
He said through the exercise, the country will also establish the number of discouraged workers.
“Labour force is important because it shows us the unemployment rate, and it also shows that level where we are in terms of labour force in Zimbabwe. For example, you might say a person is unemployed, but if that person does not meet the three criteria that I mentioned, that person is not seeking work and is available for work, that person is a discouraged work seeker,” he said.
“They have no work; they want the work, but are not looking for work because they know that they are not going to find work. It will show that our country does not have enough jobs for people and this comes from the census. This is good that the census is taking every household and everyone is counted. This is the most appropriate methodology to get such information than a survey because we are going to talk to everyone.” Chronicle

Police Turn To Chamisa For Salvation

By- Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa said he was getting reports from police officers who say the ruling ZANU PF forces them to violate their work ethic.

Police and other security forces are being accused of being partisan and brutalising opposition members.

He said the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is a state institution, not an asset of the ruling party.
Chamisa said government workers are aware that the country’s fortunes will change for the better if they vote for him.

Touts Resurface At Passport Office

By-Corrupt syndicates that wake up early morning to join the queue at the passport office in Harare have resurfaced and are targeting impatient applicants whom they are charging between US$10 and US$20 to jump the queue.

Although the passport office is offering an efficient service to the public, syndicates comprising illegal vendors, taxi drivers and money changers, who ply their businesses outside the premises, are taking advantage of the increasing number of applicants to solicit for money.

Growing publicity on the excellent service being offered by the passport office in Harare, has attracted more passport applicants, a development that has resulted in long queues emerging.
Over 600 people are being served daily and others have to complete the process the following day.
The passport office starts the day by serving those who would have failed to complete the process the previous day before entertaining new applicants.
The corrupt syndicates are now making a killing, approaching late comers who appear too busy and impatient, and offering to assist them in jumping the queue for a fee.
Instead of publicly marketing their dirty service, the touts have devised a new method of observing the applicants as they enter the premises, following them to the back of the queue.
They discourage people from following the queue, accusing the officers of delaying the process.
Later on, the touts start marketing their tainted services, describing it as a faster and hassle-free way of acquiring the travel document.
The Herald last week deployed journalists who went undercover with a view to get an appreciation of the situation at the passport office.
Upon arrival at the offices, the journalists joined the long queue.
While in the queue, a scruffy lad whispered to one of the reporters that the process was slow.
“You may not be served today because of this long queue. Again the system is currently offline and it will take time to be fixed,” said the young man as he pulled the reporter by the hand.
While off the queue, he offered the journalist a position right in front of the queue.
“We have our boys in the queue and you choose where you want to be and be served quickly,” he said.
Immediately, a young woman with a baby strapped on her back arrived and took over the case, charging the reporter US$20 for the same favour.
“Just pay us US$20 and I will take you to that boy putting on a white cap,” she said.
While the reporter was talking to the woman, the shabby lad went back to the queue to get more clients.
The woman insisted she could not charge less because she had braved the early morning cold to join the queue together with her baby.
“As you can see, I have a young baby but I sacrificed to be here as early as 5am. I cannot charge less than US$20,” she said.
After negotiations, the fee was reduced to US$10.
The reporter expressed some interest and he was taken to the bench on the front row where a boy wearing a white cap offered him a seat.
People in the queue were in the dark and they could not even complain.
However, the reporter, who already has a valid passport, left the bench as if he wanted to collect the US$10 from his car before driving off after the mission had been accomplished.
The Herald established that the syndicate involves vendors, taxi drivers and money changers who operate outside the new passport building.
They engage in the corrupt activities to supplement their income.
However, people who spoke to The Herald yesterday could not hide their joy at the service they got at the passport office.
Mr Derrick Ncube said it took him two days to complete the process but he was happy with the service.
“I came yesterday a bit late but they attended to me. Because of the increasing number of applicants, I had to complete the process today.
“We were the first to be served before the new applicants were attended but I am so happy. The service is just good,” said Mr Ncube.
An elderly woman who preferred anonymity hailed the Civil Registry Department for an excellent service.
“I am a senior citizen and the officers here treated me well. I was served without joining the queue and it took me less than an hour to complete the passport application process.
“The service was simply excellent,” she said.
Ms Mitchelle Neshato praised the officers for a good service but called for an improvement on the electronic system maintenance.
“The system, at times is offline and there is need for an improvement in that respect to prevent technical glitches and unnecessary delays,” she said.
The new e-passport was launched by President Mnangagwa in December last year.
Issuance of e-passports began on January 18 as the Central Registry Department heeded Government’s directive to smoothen the process of acquiring travel documents which hitherto was mired in corrupt tendencies and bureaucracy.
The launch of the e-passport and the state-of-the-art passport enrolment centre, is in line with the Government’s vision for a modern and digitalised economy.
Strategic investment in key areas of the digital economy is seen as a critical way of Zimbabwe keeping pace with the dynamic technological environment.
When he launched the e-passport, the President said the rolling out of the travel document dovetailed with the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) objective of modernising the economy through the use of ICTs and digital technology.
The production of the e-passport ushered the country’s entry into the era of smart technology in travel and identification documents and conforms with the dictates of regional and international conventions, protocols and treaties that Zimbabwe is party to, particularly those relating to civil and travel documents.
The International Civil Aviation Organisation Convention requires that member states take measures to ensure the integrity, authenticity and security of travel and identity documents.
The e-passport will be machine readable to eradicate counterfeits.
The enhanced security features are expected to boost authorities’ quest in fighting cross-border organised crimes and illegal migration and maintain the integrity of the country’s immigration system.
President Mnangagwa is on record saying the Government was committed to ensuring that every citizen has easy access to vital civil registration and travel documents.
He said he was alive to the challenges people had been experiencing in acquiring travel and other official documents, resulting in the accumulation of a huge backlog.
The implementation of the biometric system is now at full throttle and is expected to culminate in increased production of not just e-passports, but also national identity cards, birth certificates, entry visas as well as residence permits.
The era of long queues and corrupt tendencies in the issuance of vital civil registration documents is set to be eradicated by this system. Herald

By-Absa IT specialist Xolela Masebeni, who allegedly fraudulently transferred R103m into six bank accounts over four months, was shot dead in the Eastern Cape at the weekend.

“Police can confirm they are investigating a case of murder after a 31-year-old man was fatally shot outside his home at Unati Mkefa area, Ezibeleni, on Saturday afternoon,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli.
According to Nkohli, Masebeni was sitting in the yard with four friends when two men arrived.
“It is said Masebeni stood up and approached the two unknown men. His friends heard several gunshots and started running.

ZIMCODD Bemoans Use Of Young People In Political Violence

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has been urged to put in place measures to stop political parties from using young people as conduits of political violence.

The Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (Zimcodd) made the call yesterday following increased political violence cases involving young people ahead of the March 26 by-elections.

Zimcodd bemoaned the high unemployment rate of over 90% among the youth, which it said resulted in them engaging in criminal activities and being easily lured to fight on behalf of political party bigwigs.

“The continuous churning out of graduates from colleges and universities without matching economic transformation to create meaningful jobs is an act of injustice to the future of the youths and the nation at large,” the Zimcodd statement read.

“Zec must apply the progressive provisions already in the Constitution to ensure a level playing field for youths in electoral processes. This must include the creation of safe political spaces for youth participation, especially young women. As the 2023 harmonised elections fast approach, Zec and the government must ensure that young people are not abused, but educated to exercise their democratic rights.”

Youths in the country constitute 65% of the population. Zimcodd said idleness was forcing them to resort to drug abuse and engage in violence.

“As a result, many youths are forced to survive on undignified jobs in the informal economy, particularly vending, smallholder agriculture and informalised artisanal and small-scale mining.”

Zimcodd programmes manager John Maketo told NewsDay that young people were increasingly being used by politicians as pawns in their political games.

“We see few youth occupying top political posts. However, they are being used to perpetrate political violence in fighting for party chefs. Whenever there is political violence, youth are at the forefront. We are also losing many young people as victims of political violence.

We also want to see them participating in key electoral issues, not a situation where they are exposed to political-related criminal activities that leave them in jail and in the fringes of the political arena,” Maketo said.

Female Activists Harrassed After Gwanzura Rally

By A Correspondent| Dozens of female CCC activists who attended the Super Yellow rally at Gwanzura Stadium have been targeted and are being trailed by suspected security agents.

Among the activists are, Chipo Ndlovu, Petronella Garwe, Gamuchirai Muchenu and Sandra Mandizvidza who once worked with The Standard weekly newspaper who endured a 4-hour detention after being rounded at Machipisa by unidentified security details.

“We were briefly detained at Machipisa Police Station for a good 4 hours and subjected to inhumane treatment.

” The security details knew my work as a journalist and interrogated me for dabbling in ‘dirty’ politics,” narrated the former communications officer in the late Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s office.

Petronella who was in tears said they were sexually assaulted.

“They made fun of my body and one security detail actually fondled my buttocks describing them as flaccid,” said a grief-stricken Petronella.

This incident comes at a time when three female CCC activists are facing charges of falsifying kidnapping and assault when they are victims.

The three are Joanna Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova who claim they were sexually abused by the suspected security agents during their captivity in 2021 .

In 2008, former ZBC journalist and director of Zimbabwe Peace Project Jestina Mukoko was abducted from her home before being held incommunicado for several weeks because of her role in exposing human rights abuses.

Mai Titi, Olinda Chapel Fight In Court Over Cyber Bullying

The cyber-bullying case pitting socialites, Felistas Chido “Mai TT” Murata and Olinda Chapel-Nkomo, has spilled into court.

The matter was heard before Harare Civil Court magistrate Sharon Mashavire where both counsels presented their arguments.

Mai TT is being represented by Attorney Arthur Marara while Olinda is being represented by Ngonidzashe Musviba of Mavhiringidze and Mashanyare Law Chambers.

Magistrate Mashavira deferred the matter to Thursday.

It is alleged Mai TT sent messages to Olinda Chapel’s mobile phone.

Marara submitted that documents should have been translated into English and the annexures were in Shona and were, therefore, inadmissible.

Musviba responded and quoted Section 17 of the Civil Evidence Act that translation was only needed when necessary and even, if it’s necessary, the insults were in English as well, which is admissible.

Argued Marara:  “The authentication is for the purposes of gaining confidence in these documents, thus the case has some issues and loopholes.

“The documents have the Shona language, which is not international, thus it’s difficult to deal with such a matter.

“We still need an original document and we can not rely on photocopies.”

Ngonidzashe insisted the case deserved to be heard before the courts.

“I submit that it’s not disputed that the seal and signature is originating from the office of a notary public, but what the respondent is only disputing is that he is not able to read clearly the name of the notary public.

“The basis of this argument is in terms of the High Court case of Tawanda v Ndebele HB 26/07 which stated that, as long as the signature of the notary public, and a seal is available showing that it’s originating from the office of the notary public, the document is properly authenticated and admissible.

“The case cannot be dismissed on the basis of photocopies before the court.

“The documents presented have both Shona and English languages thus making it possible to understand the details.

“Even if the name is not on the documents, it is not a ground for dismissal, the law is concerned about whether its originating from the office of the public or not and whether it’s signed.”

Allegations are that between February 16 and 22, Mai TT bombarded Olinda with numerous text messages, on her phone number.

It is alleged that in the messages, Mai TT insulted Olinda in a provocative manner, insinuating she was a fraudster, classless, sells rubbish stuff and was a fake celebrity.

She claimed Olinda faked being rich and paid lobola for the men she married.

Further allegations were that Olinda decided to keep her peace and blocked Mai TT’s number.

However, Mai TT allegedly texted Olinda using another number.

She allegedly threatened to do a live show in which she would defame Olinda as a thief, who defrauded some people of US$3000.

Mai TT, it is alleged, then flooded the media with posts claiming Olinda was sponsoring her poor husband in a fake marriage.

Olinda claims her attempts to block Mai TT have proved to be ineffective.

Bail For 13 CCC Youths

By A Correspondent- Thirteen Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) youths were on Monday granted $10 000 bail each on charges of inciting violence and disturbing public peace on February 20 during their party leader Nelson Chamisa’s star rally at Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield, Harare.

They were also accused of obstructing the free movement of traffic by blowing whistles, horns and trumpets at the intersection of Kenneth Kaunda Avenue and Julius Nyerere Way in central Harare.

Yesterday, they appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda, who remanded them out of custody to March 15 for trial.

Their lawyer, Noble Chinhanu from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, told journalists after their release that: “What remains outstanding is the issue of violation of their constitutional rights, which we intend to take up with the High
Court.”

Caroline Mutimusakwa represented the State.

ZISCO Steel High On Chamisa’s Priority List

Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has poured scorn on the latest Government claim to revive the collapsed Zimbabwe Iron and Steel Company (ZISCO).

The Redcliff-based Ziscosteel, once the biggest integrated iron and steel company in Africa north of the Limpopo, was effectively mothballed by 2010, weighed down by rampant corruption, mismanagement, Zanu PF interference and undercapitalisation.

Several revival plans announced over the years have proved still born.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced yet another revival plan while addressing a campaign rally in Kwekwe, telling supporters that the government had secured an US$460 million investment for the company which, at its height, employed more than 4000 people.

However, addressing his on campaign rally in the same town last weekend, Chamisa said Mnangagwa and his ruling Zanu PF party did not have the capacity to re-open Zisco.

Chamisa also blasted what he described as the parcelling out of national assets to cronies and vowed to reverse the dodgy deals if elected into power at the next general elections which are scheduled for 2023.

Lawyer Takes Police Boss To Court Over Vaccination Cards

By A Correspondent- Bulawayo lawyer Job Sibanda has taken Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga and Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe to court after he was blocked from entering the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Harare for failing to produce a COVID-19 vaccination card.

Sibanda filed his application at the Bulawayo High Court on Friday last week citing Matanga and Kazembe as the first and second respondents, respectively.

In his founding affidavit, Sibanda said the court should declare the instruction given by Matanga or someone acting on his behalf, to deny entry to the CID headquarters of unvaccinated persons as null and void.

“On February 22, I had occasion to attend at CID headquarters along Josiah Chinamano Road, Harare, to conduct some personal business, having travelled all the way for that purpose. Outside the main entrance was a tent manned by two officers, one sanitising hands and the other recording details of those entering the building,” Sibanda submitted.

“When my turn came, the officer recording personal details and requested that I should also produce a valid COVID-19 vaccination card. I enquired from the officer the legal basis for demanding such as I am not vaccinated and do not have one. The officer was obviously not very helpful in this regard. He said he was only following instructions and referred me to Police General Headquarters for explanation.”

Sibanda said many people without COVID-19 vaccination cards were turned away on the day.

“As far as I am concerned, there is no law in Zimbabwe that permits a government official to bar members of the public from gaining access to any building in order to get services,” Sibanda submitted.

Matanga and Kazembe are yet to respond to the application.

Crony Capitalism Has Taken Root In Zimbabwe: Crisis Coalition

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome and thank you so much for taking the time to come to this press conference.

A lot has been happening in our country since the start of the year; we are however worried about the recent developments in our country which seem not to be going in the positive direction we all wish to see. A number of developments have also been at play; some have attracted the attention of our members, who have responded in various ways, individually and collectively. These have spanned the political, social and economic realm.

As the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition, we have noted with dismay that the national state of affairs continues to deteriorate, amid worsening authoritarian tendencies by ZANU PF as the ruling government. Our concerns are four-fold.

  1. ‘Faceless’ economic development and diminished livelihoods

Contrary to the propaganda we are fed by the ZANU PF aligned media daily that the economy is rebounding, we have continued to witness serious shortcomings in terms of our economic governance, the dilapidation of our infrastructure with corruption being a key impediment to economic recovery.

Crony capitalism has indeed taken root, as a few politically connected and exposed persons clinch the majority of state tenders through the Zimbabwe Investment Development Act (ZIDA); this has been most notable in the mining, agricultural and road construction sectors. It is worth highlighting that with the state of our economy, the government has become the biggest employer and source of such tenders.

We all remember the Drax scandal of 2020 which to date has not seen any prosecutions, despite evidence of impropriety from known persons. Many other cases of misappropriation of state resources have been reported including by high-ranking officials; some by the Office of the Auditor-General; others have been reported to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC). But as has become the norm, it is only ‘catch and release’ as perpetrators of financial impropriety continue to walk scot-free.

The current ‘faceless economic growth’ model being pursued by the current government does not serve the citizens but a few cronies connected to the ruling party. The mega-deals in mining which are projected to grow the economy, are not benefitting the country and the host communities. The black granite of the country continues to be shipped off to other countries for a pittance, with host communities facing the brunt of an arrogant extracting expatriate force with little regard for their rights as locals – this is to the extent of even desecrating graves in the rural hinterlands.

The sweat of our hard-working farmers is not being rewarded equitably as they continue to lose out in badly designed support schemes notably the contract farming scheme. Farmers are being fleeced through the Command Agriculture Scheme (now the Agro Yield Facility) – imagine having to repay a bag of fertilizer for US$47 under the stop order facility when they repay their input loans.

Our cotton farmers have endured three seasons now of being paid their dues in over-priced groceries. Yes, a farmer who has forked out their hard-earned cash to purchase inputs is being paid in groceries after delivering cotton to Cottco. Our tobacco farmers are in a similar quandary as they are being reaped off in similar contract farming arrangements.

With a largely informal economy, the country’s citizens have been forced to eke a living on the margins of the economy, where they face the brunt of marauding law enforcement that corruptly feeds of their sweat. Running battles between municipal police, the ZRP and vendors of various wares are the order of the day in most urban centres.

  1. Crisis of social services

We are also gravely concerned by the continued under-funding of basic social services by the government, which continues to treat its employees with utter contempt and disdain. The current crisis in the education sector epitomizes the government’s failures in this regard. The opening of the new school term on February 7 was marked by industrial action by a large cross-section of teachers, who have cited incapacitation as their salaries have become grossly inadequate – currently, teachers are earning about ZWL$23,000 against a monthly food basket of over ZWL$70,000 according to latest statistics from the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ).

The crisis of meagre wages in the civil service is not only affecting teachers. Nurses have also long decried this issue. Even security sector personnel have not been spared if the spike in cases of armed robberies by uniformed ‘men’ is anything to go by.

It is rather surprising that instead of engaging with its workers to hear their grievances, the government has sought to intimidate teachers; the announcement of a blanket suspension of all teachers who absented themselves from work during the first week of schools opening is evidence of an intransigent government, which does not listen to its workers. How ironic, given the avowed statements from the head of state himself that he is a listening president, who leads a government that listens.

  1. Impending by-elections and political violence

The Coalition has also noted with great concern, the increase in cases of politically motivated violence including intimidation as Zimbabwe heads towards the March 26 by-elections.

It is regrettable to note that senior ZANU PF leaders like its Second Secretary, Retired General Constantino Chiwenga, continue to fan and fuel violence against opposition supporters. During rallies held in Marondera and Kwekwe recently, the ZANU PF vice president Chiwenga equated opposition supporters to lice that must be crashed, statements reminiscent of the Gukurahundi massacres in the early 1980s.

As a result of these and other such utterances, we witnessed during this past weekend alone, disturbing incidences where machete-wielding youth aligned to ZANU PF brewed an orgy of violence targeting Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activists and other civilians attending a campaign rally in Kwekwe. Regrettably, many sustained injuries and some were hospitalized. Life was also lost as a result of this violence. May their soul rest in peace.

These events currently obtaining on the ground, point to a bloody election; and this is not only the impending March 26 by-elections but the 2023 national elections as well.

What is also disturbing is how these elections are being held in an environment that is far from yielding a credible election. It looks like ZANU PF does not want an electoral contest at all.

The partisan and opaque conduct of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) continues to cast aspersions on the integrity of our electoral processes as a country. The independence of ZEC is critical for credible polls and we reiterate that ZEC’s incapacity to hold act impartially during these by-elections could be a pointer to yet another costly charade with pre-determined outcomes in 2023.

We remain convinced that credible elections and respect for human rights are critical for Zimbabwe’s re-engagement with the international community and ultimately, economic growth.

It has to be noted that disputed elections have almost always resulted in a legitimacy crisis and ultimately, Zimbabwe continues to be alienated from the international community which has resulted in negative implications on the country’s economic growth.

  1. Continued closure of civic and democratic space

Our analyses of the current conjuncture have pointed us to one clear conclusion – it is that the actions of the ZANU PF government seek to take the country back to their nostalgic quest to have a one-party state in Zimbabwe.

Our reasons are clear.

The continued closure of civic space through the enactment of various obnoxious laws, reminiscent of the colonial era is a calculated move to criminalize anyone seeking to hold the government to account. The Data Protection Act enacted in December 2021 is an ominous piece of legislation; in the same vein, the PVO Amendment Bill is certain to be used to shut down many private voluntary actors, including those providing humanitarian assistance across the country. This is a calculated move to ensure that citizens impoverished by years of economic mismanagement are vulnerable to the dictates of corrupt politicians.
The disruptions witnessed at the ongoing PVO Bill Public hearings in Highfield Harare and Vhengere Hall in Rusape are quite disturbing and points out to a polarized political environment instigated by political leaders.
The partisan use of the police to close out any other form of civic or political organizing outside the ruling party ZANU PF is a clear statement – no other form of organizing is permissible under this Second Republic. It is disturbing to note that in most cases, law enforcement agents have acted more as an appendage of the ruling party and this has seen perpetrators of political violence walking scot-free. The events in Gokwe Centre when the police unleashed water cannons and tear gas canisters to prevent a High Court sanctioned rally by the CCC party are appalling and disturbing. The police force must be to maintain law and order and not take political instructions from ZANU PF.
The use of violence perpetrated by machete and spear-wielding gangs from the Midlands town of Kwekwe is meant to instil fear and keep citizens away from any form of civic or political participation if they are not ZANU PF supporters or activists. We have seen the lawlessness of these machete gangs before and we all know who their master is.
The conduct of ZEC, which refuses to act transparently clearly betrays ZANU PF’s intent to win all upcoming elections by hook or crook.

The way forward

We believe that the events occurring in the country all point to regression rather than progression to the many promises made by the ZANU PF regime right from their early days.

In the immediate and regarding the deteriorating the human security situation in the face of political violence, we are urging the following:

We implore President Mnangagwa, the Government of Zimbabwe and ZANU PF as a party, to urgently and publicly denounce political violence that is being perpetrated by ZANU PF supporters.

We urge the Zimbabwe Republic Police to act professionally in the conduct of their duties, upholding this Constitution and enforcing the law without bias and desist from acting as a vigilante force for the ruling party.

With regards to the impending election in March 2022 as well as the upcoming 2023 elections,

We implore the government to seriously consider the issue of electoral reforms as an urgent matter; while the March 26 by-elections will most likely be held under the current skewed, unfree and unfair context, we hope that all stakeholders will consider the issue of electoral reforms as key to getting back our country on a positive development trajectory.

We implore ZEC to act impartially and independently and desist from acting as commissars of the ruling party. ZEC must be transparent and accountable to all contesting parties and the general citizenry.

Notwithstanding the difficult conditions presented by ZEC to facilitate voter registration, we call upon Zimbabweans to register to vote en masse and exercise their democratic right to choose leaders of their choice. In this regard, we would also like to implore the Registrar General’s Department to ensure that citizens have access to national identity documents to avoid disenfranchising eligible voters.

On the worsening socio-economic conditions as well as the pauperisation of civil servants in the country,

We reaffirm our unwavering solidarity with the suffering teachers of Zimbabwe and urge the Government to seriously consider the crisis in the education sector. Government must urgently engage with all teachers’ unions and not just a select few, and their engagements must be based on genuine and frank conversations on having teachers receive a living wage, that is alive to the poverty datum line as well as the current food basket.

The plight of teachers symbolises and indeed mirrors the plight of all civil servants in Zimbabwe. Civil servants must therefore unite in engaging their employer to pay a living wage to all.

We also urge the citizens of Zimbabwe to stand in solidarity with civil servants, as their plight is not theirs alone, but impacts on us all, as civil servants are in employ to serve the nation, regardless of the field or sector they serve in. after all, these are our mothers, fathers, daughters and sons, aunts and uncles.

Let me hasten to emphasize that, as bona fide citizens of this country, we remain committed to its wholesome development, and will therefore not fold our hands as ZANU PF tries, by all means, to turn this country into a one-party state. As such, we shall continue to engage all stakeholders, both within and outside its borders, as we seek to chart a more sustainable and inclusive development.

The Coalition has endorsed a call by citizens across the country to forge a ‘broad alliance’ to tackle the numerous challenges facing the country under the auspices of the Restore Zimbabwe Campaign (REZICA).

The Restore Zimbabwe Campaign is a campaign of all citizens – women; youth; workers including civil servants, informal traders; farmers, war veterans, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities; the church, civil society, business, political parties – who are coming together in pursuit of a renewed social contract, where governance is premised on the wishes and aspirations of the citizens.

The Restore Zimbabwe Campaign views reforms of our governance architecture as key in tacking Zimbabwe forward. In particular, we are concerned with:
Governance in the realm of state-civil society relations
Governance in the realm of economic governance and equal opportunity for all
Governance in the realm of public service delivery.

It is our firm belief that far-reaching and genuine reforms in those three facets of governance are key in taking our country forward.

We will also continue to engage with our partners in the region and internationally in urging for a ‘scaffolding’ of the protracted transition in Zimbabwe. We firmly believe that conditions in the country cannot self-correct but indeed require the guidance and assistance of regional actors, especially SADC.

Invictus Energy Ltd Confirm Gas, Oil Deposits In Zim

By A Correspondent- Invictus Energy Limited (IEL) has confirmed potential natural gas and crude oil deposits in Zimbabwe.

IEL says the processing and reprocessing of data around the Cabora Bassa project has shown signs of hydrocarbons, confirming potential natural gas and crude oil deposits.

Last year, IEL conducted a 2D Seismic Survey of the Cabora Bassa area, located in the northern part of Zimbabwe, as part of its exploration into the area to find potential gas and oil deposits. This is because the Cabora Bassa project encompasses the Mzarabani prospect, a multi-trillion cubic feet and liquid-rich conventional gas-condensate area. IEL said in a statement:

The acquisition and data processing of the CB21 survey, along with the reprocessing of 1990 Mobil survey data has achieved the objectives of providing a high quality, comprehensive 2D dataset which is contractor-consistent and process-consistent.

The parameters employed for the acquisition of the CB21 survey, along with modern data processing technology have significantly elevated the data quality to a high standard.

As the interpretation is progressing, multiple anomalies have been noted in the basin’s seismic data.

These can often be indicators for the presence of hydrocarbons.

These anomalies will be investigated with additional data processing products produced by Earth Signal Processing.

Their geophysical signature, as well as trapping geometry and position (structurally and stratigraphically) will then be evaluated.

This will allow the anomalies to be assessed and ranked to ascertain the likelihood of viable hydrocarbons within a definable trap.

The data processing of the 2021 Cabora Bassa 2D Seismic Survey and concurrent reprocessing of a legacy Mobil dataset has largely been completed by onshore high-resolution data specialists, Earth Signal Processing in Calgary, Canada.

Invictus managing director Scott Macmillan said the drilling campaign is scheduled to commence in June 2022, which will be crucial in determining the quality and quantity of oil or gas found in the area.-newsday

Zanu PF Youths At It Again

Suspected Zanu-PF supporters on Monday disrupted Parliament’s public hearings on the Private Voluntary Organisations (PVO) Amendment Bill in Harare.

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Public Service is currently gathering views on the Bill viewed to be oppressive as its provisions will effectively eliminate CSOs involved in promoting and defending human rights in the country.

Yesterday, public hearings on the Bill were held in Highfield (Harare), Guruve and Mutare.  They will also be held in other provinces in the country.

In Highfield, Zanu-PF activists dominated the event and disrupted the public hearings.

In a statement yesterday, Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition  (CiZC) said the disruptions were likely to compromise citizens’ participation in the public hearings.

“We deplore the violent nature of the Zanu-PF activists and implore the ruling party to exercise tolerance of divergent views.  We reiterate that amendments to the PVO Act are part of the efforts to close the democratic space in Zimbabwe and citizens must unite in rejecting these amendments which will curtail fundamental freedoms and entrench authoritarian rule,” the CiZC statement read.

Efforts to get a comment from Zanu-PF spokesperson Chris Mutsvangwa were fruitless.  Zanu-PF commissar Mike Bimha said he could not comment on the issue as he was in a meeting.

Some of the views aired before the disruptions included that the Bill gazetted in November 2021 should not give the government powers to interfere in operations of CSOs.

A Highfield resident said:  “Ministers have a lot of things that they can focus on and, therefore, must not interfere in operations of CSOs.  They should let NGOs operate freely as they assist the poor with fees payment, food assistance and also assist people with disabilities.”

Another resident said NGOs have been coming up with youth-friendly projects to assist the youth.

In Guruve, a resident said operations of NGOs should be scrutinised as they used to give food aid in bags with notes encouraging people to vote for a certain political party.

Another Guruve resident said stakeholders should be given enough time to scrutinise the Bill as it was not unpacked to the public.

The European Union recently said the PVO Amendment Bill was one of the reasons sanctions on Zimbabwe were renewed last month.

Mines Minister At Pains To Defend Mine Grab

By A Correspondent- Mines and Mining Development Minister, Winston Chitando, Thursday failed to defend the grabbing of gold mining claims in Mberengwa district, Midlands province.

Chitando stands accused of grabbing gold claims owned by businessman Yakub Ibrahim Mohamed’s firm, Anesu Gold, and transferring them to Gold Reef Mining, where he was a shareholder.

In the High Court application, Mohamed claimed that Anesu Gold is the registered owner of the claims which are also referred to as Mangoro claims Chitando’s lawyer Lovemore Madhuku failed to produce an opposing affidavit to deny the allegations when he appeared before High Court judge Justice Rogers Manyangadze.

Ncube argued that Anesu Gold had failed to establish a locus standi in its founding affidavit. Ncube submitted:

It is respectfully submitted that applicant, having been previously challenged on its locus standi, in previous cases between the parties, particularly case numbers HC7497/20 and HC33/21, had an obligation to plead its locus standi in the founding affidavit by explaining how it has the locus standi to vindicate rights which on the face of it belonged to a company known as Start Mining Services.

Mohamed argued in his application that the mining claims were previously registered in the name of Start Mining Services (Pvt) Limited, but at the material time, they were owned by and/or registered in his company name.

He said in 2018, invoices were sent to Start Mining Services to pay mining fees for the mining claim, but it failed, leading to forfeiture.

But Gold Reef argued that Mohamed and Anesu Gold had no legal right to bring the case before the courts, adding that there was nothing illegal about Chitando being a director of Golden Reef Mining.

Rains Destroy Birth Records, Passports

By A Correspondent- The Central Registry was forced to reproduce an unspecified number of birth records and passports after they were destroyed by rainfall at its headquarters in Harare.

This was revealed during a visit by members of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Defence, Home Affairs and Security Services to assess service delivery at the Central Registry.

The Acting Registrar-General Henry Machiri said that a leaking roof allowed water to seep into the building’s storage and destroyed a significant number of passports and birth records. Machiri told ZTN:

Some of the issues we raised with them were the issue of outstanding works that still need to be done on this building.

Recently we had rains coming in through a leaking roof and destroying some passports and other documents.

Speaking after the tour, Committee Chairperson, Brigadier General (Retired) Levi Mayihlome called on relevant Government departments to expedite the completion of the building as the current situation was putting the lives of people in danger.

ZEC Told To Stop Abuse Of Youths As Conduits Of Political Violence

THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has been urged to put in place measures to stop political parties from using young people as conduits of political violence.

FULL TEXT: ARTUZ Trashes Manufactured Agreement Between APEX Council And Govt

The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe has noted the manufactured agreement between the Government of Zimbabwe who is our employer and the APEX council that purports to represent workers unions, the agreement as published by the PSC on 28 February is a signal of an employer who is in complete denial of the lived realities teachers and other civil Servants are surviving under.

The paltry twenty percent increment that they have been pushing for is a reflection of the nature of the employing authority which has been consistent with spitting in the face of their workers, teachers have in their multitude rejected such an insulting offer and as much the government has resorted to attempt to sweeten the offer with unrealistic conditions of service especially on the rebate of duty on motor vehicles is a high sounding nothing as it is virtually impossible for teachers to be able to afford to buy cars on such a salary that is pitiful.

The Union has gone to great lengths to attempt to make logic of the pronouncement but the membership has rejected such offers, however through a process of intense consultation the Union has come up with a number of action points

  1. With reference to the offered salary increment teachers have resolved to work for 2 days per week, Mondays and Tuesdays, which is reflective on the amount offered
  2. The Government respects section 65 (5) on the notion of collective bargaining and not resort to threats and command negotiations
  3. On the aspect of negotiations, the employer should come through proper and formal channels and not through their government appointed APEX council which they have absolute control over.
  4. The government should respect the High Court ruling and stop victimization of genuinely Incapacitated teachers through suspension and dismissal and the deployment of ZANU PF thugs to terrorise teachers should stop forthwith
  5. The Union demands restoration of the USD540 salary as the real starting point of restoring worker dignity. A wave of street protests is being organized to #SaveOurEducationZw

The Union stands ready to stand with true labor justice and the rights of all workers in turmoil and tenacity, the structure of our struggle is defined by the vigilance of our members.

Police Intensifies Chamisa Rally Zanu PF Violence

By-Police have intensified investigations into the Kwekwe violence and have so far arrested 16 suspects in connection with the death of one person at the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rally.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said they wanted to get the bottom of the matter.

“We are still conducting investigations with a view of trying to find out what actually transpired. But what is of paramount importance is that political leaders must be careful with their language. We encourage language that builds, and not agitates for violence,” Asst Comm Nyathi said.
.
“However, as police, we will deal with any acts of violence,” Asst Comm Nyathi said.

Mnangagwa Defines Prostitution As Formal Job

By-The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (Zimstat) has announced that will be using the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) definition of employment to classify the country’s employment figures hence the inclusion of sex work as “employment.”

Zimstat said it will be using this defination during the National Population and Housing Census to be held next month.

This is the most appropriate methodology to get such information than a survey because we are going to talk to everyone.”

Peace Organisation Condemns Chamisa Rally Zanu PF Violence

By- The Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) has noted with grave concern gross incidents of political violence and the use of state security agents to suppress and violently disrupt opposition political campaigns.

ZPP is disturbed by the growing incidents and notes with regret the loss of life and about seven citizens who have been seriously injured.
These incidents have a serious bearing on the credibility of not just this year’s by-elections, but on the entire electoral environment.
During the weekend there were various bloody attacks against Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) supporters in the Midlands province.
Citizens Coalition for Change supporters attending their rally in Kwekwe were attacked by ZANU PF activists on Sunday.
The incidents were reported to the police and they are listed under RRB 4878031-4878038. The police report they have arrested 16 suspects and they believe one is still at large.
Machete gangs suspected to be aligned to ZANU PF attacked a rally that was being addressed by Nelson Chamisa, killing two and seriously injuring others who are admitted to hospitals around Kwekwe. Several machetes were recovered in the cars the suspects were using.
The incident, which happened in what is believed to be the home ground of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, a day after he addressed a rally that had police protection, paints a dark picture of Zimbabwe’s politics and should be condemned. ZRP should investigate and ensure the law takes its full course.
ZPP notes that it is an irony that police managed to send a considerable amount of equipment and human resources to stop a CCC rally in Gokwe, but failed to send enough manpower to protect the another legally sanctioned CCC event in Kwekwe, which was invaded by the machete gangs.
The Kwekwe incident happened as other CCC activists had to fend off alleged ZANU PF supporters, who petrol bombed a tent set up for a rally in Chitungwiza.
On Saturday, CCC supporters had to run battles with police who wanted to disrupt a legally permitted rally in Gokwe.
On the same day in Epworth, Harare, a meeting organised by Linda Masarira was reportedly disrupted by ZANU PF activists.
It is unfortunate that the environment is not favourable for all other political actors except ZANU PF.
Since the formation of the CCC, ZPP recorded over 30 incidents of political violence with the ruling ZANU PF being the main perpetrator.
Police have also contributed to human rights violations and currently, dozens of CCC supporters are detained for holding a car rally.
Police have also deployed roadblocks, especially in Chitungwiza in a bid to disrupt opposition political activists wishing to attend rallies of their parties.
These incidents have happened just as the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has activated the Multiparty Liaison Committee, whose mandate is to ensure political parties adhere to peaceful and lawful campaign methods by their members.
ZPP appeals to ZEC to introduce post multiparty liaison committee briefings as citizens are concerned about their safety during this and subsequent elections.
Section 216 of the Constitution, gives the police the mandate to protect and secure the lives of the people and uphold the Constitution and enforce the law without fear, favour, or prejudice.
We expect the police to fully investigate these incidents from the weekend and any other incidents in the future and bring the perpetrators to book in accordance with the law.
It must be noted that civil and political rights are guaranteed under Section 67 of the Constitution.
In light of that, ZPP makes a strong call for peace and tolerance in the run-up to the by-elections, as this has a bearing on the credibility of the entire election process.
Political leaders have a responsibility to ensure elections become peaceful contestations.
It is up to the leaders of political parties to desist from hate language that fuels violence by their supporters.
Section 133G of the Electoral Act gives political parties and candidates the responsibility to discipline party members.
ZPP is alarmed by the remarks made by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga where he referred to an opposition leader as a ‘little Goliath’ who should be crushed with stone-like lice where even flies will not find anything to eat.
Besides Chiwenga’s language being unacceptable, knowing how such language where people are likened to animals and creatures has led to the outbreak of more violence, we believe this is meant to incite ZANU PF supporters to be violent towards opposition supporters.
We, therefore, call on Vice President Chiwenga on the basis of his position in ZANU PF and the government to do the right thing and retract his statement.
In conclusion, we strongly urge all stakeholders, including political leaders, parties, state security agents, other government departments and the generality of Zimbabweans to ensure the run-up to the March 26 by-elections is peaceful and that alternative views are tolerated

Zanu PF Activists Torment Teachers

Chamisa Rubbishes Partisan Journalists

By- Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Mr Nelson Chamisa has barred journalists perceived to be working with the ruling party Zanu PF from his rallies.

The opposition leader said his party would limit access to its rallies.

“We will limit access to our venues to those who are genuine journalists, who are not working for Zanu (PF) and we know it,” said Mr Chamisa in apparent reference to the State ran news stables which he has always railed against.

CCC Mourns Mboneni Ncube

Fadzayi Mahere:
dark cloud hangs over us as we mount the sad loss of Mboneni Ncube (30, male) who was attacked with a spear and murdered in broad daylight in Kwekwe yesterday by Zanu PF thugs.

His only crime was to believe in a brighter Zimbabwe where all are free.

May his soul Rest In Peace.

Netsai Marova:
Dark day for democracy, our party & citizens at large

My sincere condolence to the family of our departed Cde & may his dear soul rest in power.

CCC Statement On Kwekwe Violence

YellowThread: Kwekwe

  1. Yellow citizens…
Your movement moved its by-elections campaign program to the gold city of Kwekwe, after a massive program in Gokwe, which defied ZanuPF shenanigans.
  2. The Citizens’ Champion Advocate Nelson Chamisa was welcomed by over 30 thousand local yellow citizens. Due to lack of interest in self-flattery we do not bus supporters from other towns, to our event. Chamisa haaunganidzi vanhu. Vanhu vanounganira Chamisa.
  3. Kwekwe roared. The citizens were ecstatic. The Champion in chief President Chamisa came on stage & addressed 3 issues:

i. Introducing the new
ii. Highlighting the alternative agenda, to be fully articulated at our official launch
iii. Campaigning for our by-elections candidates for Mbizo & KK Central constituencies

  1. The smooth flow of the Citizen’s Rally was sadly disrupted by marauding ZanuPF youths wielding machetes, stones, spears, stones & bottles, wearing their party regalia. An orgy of violence ensued.
  2. The intention of this lawlessness & violent disruption, was to bring the gathering to a premature end, and instill fear in the citizens who have dumped unproductive politics & turned yellow
  3. Whereas the Citizen’s Champion President resolutely returned on stage to continue addressing citizens who themselves declined being forced to dispersed, over 26 citizens with serious wounds have since been hospitalised while one sadly passed on.
  4. We applaud you Citizens and youths for fending off the perpetrators, as the violence could have been worse as well as the police who eventually moved in. At a party level, we organised urgent treatment of the injured, & continue monitoring their progress.
  5. We have on the strongest of terms, denounced the violence & demanded that authorities pursue this to its logical end. It’s becoming clear that the angels of darkness are implementing the threats by Chiwenga, to “squash us like mice”.

Sadly have lost an innocent soul [May his soul Rest In Peace]

  1. Fellow Citizens it will be prudent for all pro-democracy institutions; the church; law enforcement institutions; progressive Citizens, beyond party lines, to speak in one voice, against political violence.
  2. With no regret, ours is a desire to have progressive politics premised on competition for electoral support, on the benchmark of superior ideas & not superior weaponry.
  3. Fellow Africans Citizens in Zimbabwe have remained resolute. The movement of the Citizens remains clear on forging ahead. We have to no option but to carry on. If anything, the need to carry on is clearer now, more than ever. Be assured we the citizens will defeat this evil & lawlessness.
  4. United, no weapon will stop us. Its darker, but the sun will rise again, and we have to stick together. We are for peace. We abhore violence & lawlessness. Together!

For and on behalf of the oppressed Comrade Ostallos
