Notorious Gweru Killer Nabbed

MURDER suspect, Peter Dube who was on the run since 2021, has been nabbed in Mozambique and is now awaiting extradition back into the country.

Dube skipped the country after he allegedly went on a shooting spree in 2021, in which he reportedly killed two people in Gweru after he suspected that his second wife was cheating on him.

After the shooting spree, Dube is understood to have fled to neighbouring South Africa where he allegedly stayed for a while before relocating to Eswatini.

Details have since emerged that while in Eswatini, Dube changed his identity to Xolile Mtsali before he went to Ireland where he enjoyed the privileges of asylum.

His luck ran out while he was in Ireland and he was arrested in June this year for violating that country’s immigration laws.

It also emerged that while in Ireland, Dube claimed to be a Mozambican national named Armando Quenete Muchanga, leading to his deportation to the neighbouring country.

However, the Zimbabwe Republic Police, working together with Interpol, discovered he had faked identity, leading to his arrest.

ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that Dube is currently detained in Mozambique where all procedures will be followed before he is bought home.

CCC Rebel Fires 15 Chamisa MPs From Parliament

By- Sengezo Tshabangu, calling himself CCC secretary-general, has fired 15 MPs elected in August from both the party and parliament.

He also wrote to the local government minister, Winston Chitando, to recall 17 CCC councillors for a similar reason.

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa last week to the Speaker of Parliament urging him to ignore attempts to recall over a dozen lawmakers by a man claiming to represent the party.

The Speaker, Jacob Mudenda, has ruled on the matter and declared the 15 seats vacant and open for by-elections.

In a letter to Mudenda dated October 4, 2023, Chamisa referenced an earlier communication on September 11 listing his party’s 103 MPs and 27 senators. The letter said “any correspondence regarding any CCC Members of Parliament… is to be directed to this office” and “any communication or notification regarding any CCC Member of Parliament shall come from this office.”
The September 11 letter added: “For the avoidance of doubt, no other person is authorised to correspond or communicate with parliament concerning CCC members in parliament.”
In his latest letter after Tshabangu’s petition to Mudenda, Chamisa reminds the Speaker of his earlier communication and adds: “There have not been any changes to the communication protocols in our letter dated September 11, 2023.”
Chamisa maintains that Tshabangu is not a member of the party, adding that the party also has no secretary general or an acting secretary general. A police report had also been made against Tshabangu, he added.
“As at present, none of the Members of Parliament who were elected under the CCC have been expelled from the party I lead or recalled from the National Assembly, or for that matter, from any elected position in the Senate or any local council,” Chamisa wrote.
Tshabangu has been identified as the individual who was a signatory for nearly two dozen people who filed nomination papers as CCC candidates for the August 23 elections, and whose nominations were controversially accepted by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission. Chamisa failed to overturn ZEC’s decision in court.
In some parliamentary constituencies and local authority races, CCC ended up with two or even three candidates on a single ballot. The double candidates largely did not affect results except in Epworth South where Taedzwa Honour Mbofana of Zanu polled 8,112 while the combined votes of the three candidates using the CCC party name – Blessed Kudakwashe Chatambudza, Didymus Bande and Solomon Baramasimbe – added up to 9,426.
Controversy … The Citizens Coalition for Change insists that Sengezo Tshabangu, seen here at a CCC rally, is not a member of the party
Tshabangu appears to be exploiting an apparent gap in the legal status of the CCC which has no leadership structure outside Chamisa and his appointed spokespersons. The party formed in March 2022 has not set a date for an elective congress.
The ruling Zanu PF party is keenly watching, some say even encouraging an internal rupture in the CCC hoping it will trigger by-elections which if it wins would secure it a two thirds majority in parliament, allowing the party to amend the constitution at will. Zanu PF is currently five seats shy of that target in the National Assembly.
Mudenda and Chitando are Zanu PF members and many in the CCC fear they could rule in favour of Tshabangu, which would ignite a major political firestorm. A ruling in favour of Tshabangu could have serious financial repercussions for the CCC too as he could claim all funding meant for the party under the Political Parties (Finance) Act.
Chamisa’s lawyer Advocate Thabani Mpofu insists Mudenda and Chitando have no choice but to reject the Tshabangu petitions out of hand.
“They cannot act on criminal letters,” Mpofu said. “The correct position was communicated to parliament in good time and has recently been affirmed. Not even the lowest of all lows can give oxygen to the human forest fire that Tshabangu is.”

Job Sikhala’s Health Deteriorates, Passes Bloody Stool In Chikurubi

By- Top opposition CCC politician Job Sikhala is in critical condition at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison.

The former Zengeza West Member of Parliament has been in prison since June 2022.

CCC party leader Nelson Chamisa has demanded that Sikhala be released from jail.

Sikhala is said to be seriously ill and is experiencing severe health problems, including passing blood in his waste. In a post, Chamisa said Sikhala’s condition requires urgent and expert medical attention, which is denied to him at present. He said:

FREE JOB SIKHALA IMMEDIATELY!

I am deeply concerned about the fact that Hon Job Sikhala is seriously ill in Chikurubi. In particular the fact that he has blood in his stools is a very serious condition which requires urgent and expert medical attention which is denied to him at present. This would be bad enough if he was a convicted criminal but he is an opposition politician and respected lawyer who has been denied bail and a fair trial since June last year. The oppressors have callously disregarded our pleas in the past and so I now call on the international community, particularly leaders within SADC, to express concern and to call for his immediate release to obtain specialized medical attention. When icons like Nelson Mandela were held unjustly the world spoke out against the brutal apartheid regime’s unjust treatment of him. This situation requires the same to be done urgently. For our part we will continue to do all in our power to secure his release from detention.

Chamisa’s recent post on X, formerly known as Twitter, received mixed reactions. While some people agreed with his message, others argued that merely posting on the platform was insufficient. They suggested that the CCC party should take proactive steps, such as approaching the Constitutional Court.

The CCC maintains that Sikhala did not commit any crime and is in prison on political grounds. Sikhala was arrested and jailed in June 2022 for alleged incitement of violence that erupted during the funeral wake of slain CCC activist Moreblessing Ali

Top Businessman Brains Muchemwa In Court For Attempting to Shoot Wife

OXLINK Capital’s CEO, Brains Muchemwa, appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo on Saturday for allegedly threatening to shoot his wife and accusing her of bewitching him.

Muchemwa, aged 44, was granted bail and is scheduled to return to court on November 7.

According to court documents, on September 2 at around 5 pm, the accused’s wife, Blessing, aged 44, was en route to collect her children from school when she missed calls from her husband.

Reportedly, she attempted to return the calls but was unsuccessful due to poor network connectivity.

Upon arriving home around 10 pm, Muchemwa confronted his wife, accusing her of using witchcraft to harm him. He allegedly threatened to physically harm her and publicize their altercations on social media, including “X” (formerly known as Twitter), claiming he had no fear of consequences.

The complainant purportedly apologized and clarified that she was not using any witchcraft on him. However, this further angered Muchemwa, who allegedly struck her four times on the shoulder.

He then ceased the physical assault but continued to mock her, stating, “You see that I can hit you and will not stop because you need to be delivered from the demon that you have, which now requires me to use force on you.” Additionally, he allegedly threatened to shoot her and indicated he might commit suicide afterward.

Following the incident, the complainant reported the matter to Highlands Police Station and was subsequently referred to a hospital for a medical examination.

From the bustling markets of Nairobi to the tranquil villages in Mali, bicycles are ubiquitous, serving as essential tools for daily life. But the connection between the bicycle and African culture goes beyond utility; it’s embedded in the very fabric of communities.

Cycling has often been an integral part of African traditions and has even played a role in rites of passage. For example, in some regions, young boys prove their mettle by cycling long distances, showcasing not only their physical prowess but also their determination. In other areas, community events revolve around cycling, bringing people together in the spirit of friendly competition. These cultural ties to the sport highlight the deep-rooted significance of cycling in Africa and underscore why the rise of African cycling stars carries profound meaning for the entire continent.

Pioneers of African Cycling: Shaping the Future

As African cycling continues to gain recognition on the global stage, it’s essential to pay homage to the pioneers who laid the foundation for this meteoric rise. These trailblazers, often unsung heroes, pushed boundaries and inspired the next generation of athletes. Names like Daniel Teklehaimanot from Eritrea and Rwanda’s Adrien Niyonshuti stand out as early catalysts in reshaping the narrative of African cycling.

Daniel Teklehaimanot, who became the first African to wear the polka dot jersey in the Tour de France, shattered stereotypes and demonstrated that African cyclists had the potential to not only compete but excel in the most prestigious cycling events on the planet. Adrien Niyonshuti’s remarkable journey, from surviving the Rwandan genocide to representing his nation in the Olympics, exemplifies the resilience and strength of spirit that defines these pioneers. Their stories inspire hope and affirm that the future of African cycling is brighter than ever before, setting the stage for the new generation of athletes to continue this transformative journey.

From Local Races to International Glory

These local races serve as a testing ground for their skills, allowing them to hone their techniques, build endurance, and fine-tune their strategies.

It’s on these hometown courses that the camaraderie among cyclists grows, creating an enduring bond within the African cycling community. The camaraderie is a testament to the sport’s capacity to unite and uplift not only individuals but entire nations. The experiences gained from local races and the lessons learned from the ups and downs on the road are what propel African cyclists to the international arena, where they challenge the world’s best and prove that they belong among the elite.

As African cycling stars graduate from local races and embark on international journeys, they step onto a global stage that is both thrilling and demanding. The transition from domestic competitions to the international arena is marked by a series of profound adjustments. They face stiffer competition, navigate different terrains, and encounter a cultural mosaic that spans continents.

Yet, it is precisely this diversity and the unknown challenges that make the journey so compelling. African cyclists carry with them a rich tapestry of cultural influences, values, and a sense of collective pride. They often become ambassadors not only for their respective countries but for the entire continent. Their presence on the global stage is a testament to the shared dreams of millions, who find inspiration in their pursuit of excellence and the hope they represent for the future.

Their journeys from local races to international glory are both inspiring and emblematic of the human spirit’s capacity to overcome challenges and achieve greatness.

While we celebrate the accomplishments of African cycling stars, it’s crucial to recognize that their journey is far from over. They continue to break new ground, challenge stereotypes, and inspire the next generation of cyclists across Africa. Their enduring dedication to the sport and their communities paves the way for a brighter, more inclusive future where African cycling continues to rise, and where the world comes to acknowledge the true potential of the continent’s athletes.

Top Economist Fired For Shooting Down Mnangagwa’s Anti-People Economic Policies

By- THe government has fired top economist Professor Gift Mugano from the Zim Trade Board, Zimbabwe’s national trade development and promotion organisation, for criticising ill-informed economic policies.

The directive to fire Professor Mugano was issued by the Foreign Affairs Minister Frederick Shava.

Mugano last week confirmed the development in a tweet, saying the move was meant to silence him.

“Fired from the ZimTrade Board by the appointing authority before the end of my term! This is part of the strategies of the Government of Zimbabwe aimed at silencing alternative voices. It will not work on me! Zimbabwe is for us all and our views matter,” he said.

Foreign Affairs Minister Frederick Shava

Mugano also shared the letter of dismissal directed to him by Permanent Secretary Ambassador James Manzou.

Read part of the letter: “I wish to inform you that the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has terminated your membership from the Zim Trade Board in terms of Article 10 of the Constitution of Zim Trade as read with Section 16 of the Public Entities and Corporate Governance Act [Chapter 10:31]. The termination is with immediate effect.

“I wish to thank you for the services rendered to the Board and the Ministry and to wish you well in your future endeavours.”

Mugano, the Director Centre for African Governance and Development, is a well known economist who frequently provides critical analysis of the state of Zimbabwe’s economy.

The Megafest Top20 Business Awards honour individuals who have excelled in delivering value to stakeholders and the nation.

Tatiana’s life story has inspired many across the globe. She was born in a communist civilization where the girl child was viewed to be inferior to her male counterpart.
Instead of sinking under the gender discrimination waters, Tatiana Ellis had to fight her way up the ladder from a tender age. Unsurprisingly, her name is highly mentioned among top leaders in Zimbabwe’s real estate sector.

In her exploits under the visionary leadership of West Property CEO Ken Sharpe, Tatiana has promoted the rise of ‘Dubai’ in Zimbabwe. The upmarket and ultra-modern developments that West Property has come up with include Millennium Heights Apartment Estate, Pomona City, and Pokugara Residential Estate Townhouses in Borrowdale, which are available at the lock-up shell level.
Pomona City, which has been fittingly described as a city within a city, has adopted the innovative leasehold option of land ownership as part of efforts to enable the middle-income class to access decent housing at affordable prices. Pomona City will be a secure gated community and estate comprising predominantly residential stands, with some facing the Wingate Park Golf Course. The estate comprises a shopping center, schools, a park, a clubhouse, a crèche, and a church avenue. The stands are in four categories and phases. Phase 1A stands consist of large stands ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 square meters. Some of the stands are along the picturesque golf course, giving our clients magnificent views.

Located in Borrowdale, Pokugara Residential Estate is made up of residential stands and completely serviced double and single-story houses. It is located in Borrowdale West, Harare along Whitwell Road and corner Teviotdale Road. The award-winning townhouses are 166sqm and have three bedrooms (mes), whilst the double-story townhouses sit on 226sqm with four bedrooms (mes) and an open-plan kitchen, dining, and living space, a common bathroom, and an en-suite staff room.
In addition, the residential estate will include world-class recreational facilities such as a clubhouse, braai area, gym, and swimming pool. These will be available in Phase 2 of the development, which is now on offer.
West Property wants to make Millennium Heights, which is part of Millennium Park, a self-contained city within the next decade. The development is an apartment complex located at the end of Maxwell Road, Borrowdale West, in Harare North. Units measure 41 sqm for the babysitter/studio, 90 sqm for the 1-bed, and 131 sqm for the 2-bedroom units. All come with a bathroom, open-plan dining and living rooms, and built-in kitchens.
On the commercial side, the trend-setting Mbudzi People’s Market in Harare has become a source of living and an employment opportunity for the young and old in the southern suburbs of Harare. With the Mall of Zimbabwe on the horizon, Tatiana’s shared dream of positioning Zimbabwe on the global map through infrastructure development will soon be realized.
The latest Megafest award is another feather to Tatiana’s bumper list of local, regional, and international accolades earned during her illustrious career in leadership.

Man bashes wife over new TV

On Wednesday, a 48-year-old man from Bulawayo made an appearance before Magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa, facing charges related to domestic violence.

He stands accused of physically assaulting his wife and daughter in a dispute over a new television set, which he suspected had been gifted to his wife by her lover.

Bruce Mlauzi, who has been charged with three counts of physically abusing his wife, Simomo Dube, and daughter, Pretty, was granted bail of US$20 and remanded until October 18.

The allegations suggest that on October 1, at approximately 2 pm, Mlauzi confronted his wife regarding the origin of the television set. She responded that it had been given to her by their neighbor. However, Mlauzi remained unconvinced and accused his wife of receiving the television set from her lover. Subsequently, he allegedly subjected his wife to physical assault, using both fists and boots.

Additionally, the accused assaulted his daughter by forcefully pushing her to the ground. The following day, Mlauzi is said to have assaulted his wife once again.

As a result of the injuries sustained, Dube was referred to Mpilo Hospital for a medical examination, and a police report was filed, leading to Maphosa’s arrest.

Armed robberies haunt long distance travelers

In recent times, the frequency of armed robberies has seen an alarming increase, particularly during extended travels. These incidents not only jeopardize the safety and well-being of individuals but also lead to significant losses of valuable possessions. It has become imperative to highlight the importance of utilizing trustworthy services like Mumba Money for secure money transfers to mitigate the risk of falling victim to such unfortunate events.

A recent incident that vividly underscores this cautionary tale took place on Zimbabwe’s Mutare-Beitbridge Road. Three unidentified male assailants, posing as regular passengers, infiltrated a bus armed with a pistol. Their target was the bus driver and the 14 passengers onboard, with demands for cash and other valuables. The audacious robbers managed to flee with a substantial haul, totaling ZAR 146,160 and US$8,320, in addition to various personal belongings.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has swiftly initiated an investigation into this daring heist, underscoring the gravity of the situation. Law enforcement agencies are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to apprehend the culprits and offer reassurance to the public.

In the wake of such unsettling incidents, it is essential to emphasize the wisdom of refraining from carrying substantial sums of cash during lengthy journeys. Cash not only beckons thieves but also poses a considerable risk to personal safety. Instead, opting for secure and dependable money transfer methods, such as Mumba Money, can significantly diminish the likelihood of falling prey to armed robberies.

Restrictions for Zimbos seeking greener pastures on cruise ships

Some recruitment agencies have imposed restrictions on hiring Zimbabweans for cruise ship positions due to a history of individuals not returning to their ships when they dock in foreign ports. These incidents have resulted in substantial inconveniences and financial losses for cruise ship operators.

A prominent employment agency, Safe Cruise Agency, has posted a notice on its website confirming the suspension of recruitment for Zimbabwean candidates. Their statement reads,

“We are not authorized to recruit citizens of Zimbabwe. We are not considering new curriculum vitae submissions as we do not have any open positions for African passport holders this year. New positions will be posted, but not before 2024.”

In February of this year, reports emerged that the United States government was contemplating the deportation of Zimbabwean cruise ship workers due to perceived “migration risk.”

An internal human resources email leaked on February 20 revealed that Celebrity Cruises, a luxury ocean liner, informed its staff about a directive from Miami Customs and Border Control officers stating that Zimbabwean workers would no longer be permitted to disembark from cruise ships in Miami, Florida.

Cruise ship companies typically rely on a diverse workforce from various countries to provide services to passengers during their voyages across the seas. Zimbabweans were once sought-after for their skills and strong work ethic, but the recurring instances of individuals not returning to their ships have eroded trust and confidence in their reliability.

This ban is expected to have a substantial impact on Zimbabwean job seekers who were previously drawn to the cruise ship industry as a source of employment and an opportunity to explore the world.

Post election victimization haunts Zimbabwe

It is now almost two months since Zimbabwe went to the polls and produced a disputed election result, whose contestation mirrored the 2018 polls.

The main opposition Citizens Coalition for Change and its leader, Nelson Chamisa, like in the 2018 polls, continue to protest in all manner in the hope of turning the tables. All we can do at the moment is to simply wish them the best.

Amid all these happenings, it is, however, disturbing to learn that there are some elements who are taking the August 23 and 24 poll disputes to a new low.

These elements are allegedly hunting down Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) presiding officers, polling agents and local observers who manned polling stations where the ruling Zanu-PF party performed dismally.

In its latest report, the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum claims that there are “unprecedented levels of post-election victimisation” which it says “are not only uncharacteristic of a victorious party, but pose a severe threat to genuine democratic consolidation in Zimbabwe”.

If true, this will tarnish the image of Zanu-PF.

Zanu-PF has denied the allegations, which have the potential to bring its name into disrepute.

This is not the first time the governing party has been linked to post-poll human rights abuses.

We have seen political activists committing gross human rights violations and even threatening to kill opposition supporters in the name of the ruling party.

However, Zanu-PF has done nothing to clear its name or dissociate itself from such nefarious characters.

The party has not even bothered to cause their immediate arrest. All it has done is to deny its involvement in any of the politically damaging activities.

The NGO Forum cannot possibly create these incidents and this must prompt both Zanu-PF and Zec to jump into action to protect their reputation because it is in their best interests that they get to the bottom of this issue.

If Zanu-PF is a people’s party which respects the country’s Constitution, it must quickly move to cause the arrest of all the people who are tarnishing its image.

On its part, Zec cannot say, as we hear, that it is not aware of what is happening to people whose rights are being violated, especially the presiding officers it employed to help make the entire electoral process a success.

There is no way Zec can turn a blind eye when its reputation is being dragged into the mud for failing to protect its personnel who are being hounded for professionally performing their duties.

Inaction by both Zanu-PF and Zec will only serve to point to complicity and their failure to act will promote lawlessness, a scourge which has far too long haunted Zimbabwe.

Teachers implore ED to re-evaluate teachers salaries

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Teachers Association (Zimta) has called on the government to consistently reevaluate the compensation and incentives for educators to retain skilled personnel and counteract the emigration of talent.

In a statement marking World Teachers Day last week, Mr. Goodwill Taderera, the acting secretary-general of Zimta, highlighted the challenges confronting the education sector. These include an overcrowded curriculum and a high teacher-to-student ratio of 1:33, placing significant strain on the education system.

Zimta pointed out that while Zimbabwe boasts a high net enrollment ratio in primary schools, with nine out of ten children of primary school age attending, sustaining this level of enrollment presents challenges. Achieving universal enrollment in primary education, as mandated by the Constitution and the Education Amendment Act of 2020, faces significant obstacles.

Mr. Taderera emphasized the need to provide teachers with competitive salaries and resources to ensure the quality of education. He highlighted instances of teachers leaving Zimbabwe, particularly science and mathematics educators, due to inadequate salaries, even mentioning government-to-government arrangements like those with Rwanda.

This year’s World Teachers Day was celebrated under the theme “The teachers we need for the education we want: The global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage.”

Mr. Taderera also criticized existing labor laws as “draconian” and not aligned with the Constitution. He expressed concern about overloaded curricula, which hinder effective teaching and learning, especially when teachers have to manage large classes.

World Teachers’ Day, observed on October 5th annually, commemorates the adoption of the 1966 International Labour Organization (ILO)/United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. This recommendation establishes standards for teachers’ rights and responsibilities, as well as their recruitment, employment, initial training, and continuing education.

World Teachers’ Day is jointly convened in partnership with the ILO, UNICEF, and Education International (EI). UNESCO notes that being a teacher provides a unique opportunity to have a transformative and lasting impact on the lives of others, contributing to shaping sustainable futures and offering personal fulfillment.

UNESCO also highlights the unprecedented global teacher shortage and its exacerbation due to declining conditions and status in the teaching profession.-statemedia

Latest on Zanu PF campaign vehicles return

By A Correspondent- Unsuccessful Zanu-PF candidates in the recent harmonized elections have criticized the Harare provincial leadership for their perceived punitive actions, including threats to involve the police in the retrieval of campaign vehicles from candidates who did not immediately surrender them as instructed in a circular.

The affected candidates argued that they were not defying the Politburo’s directive to return party-issued vehicles but wanted an opportunity to discuss the matter with higher-ranking officials before making a decision.

Some candidates felt disrespected because the directive was communicated through social media instead of engaging with them personally.

While some candidates confirmed surrendering their vehicles, others believed that the Harare province was quick to punish aspiring MPs who had worked hard to narrow the losing margins against the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) in urban constituencies.

Among those listed as defying the directive were Godwin Gomwe (Budiriro North), Spencer Machangara (Chitungwiza North), Kiven Mutimbanyoka (Zengeza East), Tauya Mauka (Kuwadzana West), Tatenda Mukwena (Budiriro South), Mike Mashonganyika (Highfield), Witness Zinyama (Glen View North), Offard Muchuwe (Glen View South), Muchineripi Chamatowa (Dzivarasekwa), Tellmore Mujavhura (Kuwadzana East), and others.

According to an internal circular, only eight out of the 26 losing Zanu-PF parliamentary candidates had surrendered their vehicles by October 5.

In response to inquiries, Godwin Gomwe confirmed that he had already returned the car and urged NewZimbabwe.com to verify with the Zanu-PF Headquarters’ transport department.

Tauya Mauka explained that he was not refusing to return the car but was following the proper procedure to do so. He emphasized that these were not personal vehicles but were provided by the party and would eventually be surrendered.

The issue raised by the candidates was that they felt they should have been treated with respect and given an opportunity to discuss their concerns rather than being subjected to ridicule.

Recently, Zanu-PF instructed all its candidates who lost in the recent harmonized elections to return the vehicles they received for campaign purposes. The party had distributed 210 brand new branded vehicles, including 4×4 Nissan Navaras and Ford Rangers, to parliamentary representatives contesting in the elections. The directive was issued in a circular dated September 29, 2023, and addressed to all provincial chairpersons by Zanu-PF Secretary-General Obert Mpofu. It specified that defeated aspirants must return the vehicles by October 4, 2023, without fail.

In previous elections, the party allowed unsuccessful candidates to continue using party-issued vehicles for constituency work as shadow MPs with the hope of improving their political fortunes.

Oxlink Capital CEO hauled to court for threatening to shoot wife over juju

By A Correspondent- Oxlink Capital’s CEO, Brains Muchemwa, appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo on Saturday for allegedly threatening to shoot his wife and accusing her of bewitching him.

Following the incident, the complainant reported the matter to Highlands Police Station and was subsequently referred to a hospital for a medical examination.-Newsday

Zim to integrate Chinese tradition medicines into health care system

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe is actively working to integrate traditional Chinese medicine into its healthcare system, according to a statement from a government minister.

During a bilateral meeting with China’s Vice Minister of the National Health Commission, Yu Xuejun, held on the sidelines of the International Inter-ministerial Conference on South-South and Triangular Cooperation in Population and Development in Victoria Falls, Health Minister Douglas Mombeshora highlighted ongoing efforts to familiarize Zimbabwe with traditional Chinese medicine.

Mombeshora mentioned that some Chinese doctors have already come to Zimbabwe to practice acupuncture, benefiting local patients. The government is currently in the process of regulating traditional medicine practices, aiming to collaborate in various areas to achieve their goals.

The minister also praised Chinese nationals for their contributions to various projects in Zimbabwe, especially in the healthcare sector. He specifically mentioned China’s support in the construction of the National Pharmaceutical Warehouse, one of the largest warehouses in the southern African region, which was completed and handed over to the Zimbabwean government in October 2022. Yu, speaking at the same meeting, commended the Zimbabwean government’s commitment to maintaining and strengthening relations between the two countries. He noted that China has been sending medical teams to Zimbabwe since 1985 and expressed a desire for further discussions to bolster ties, particularly in the healthcare sector.

The ongoing conference in Victoria Falls has attracted participation from more than 30 countries, with the official opening set to take place today, presided over by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.-newsday

ZESA Ordered To Compensate Electrocution Victim

State-run power utility, ZESA Holdings, has forked out more than US$19 000 as compensation for damages to a minor child, who was electrocuted and sustained severe electrical burns owing to gross negligence by the electricity supplier.

The 13 year-old minor child was left nursing extensive injuries to his
right upper limbs including permanent and irreversible injuries, which he suffered due to electrocution in April 2019 while medical doctors estimated his impairment percentage at 20 percent.

The minor child’s parents were assisted by Kevin Kabaya and Tatenda Sigauke of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, who on 16 September 2022, wrote a letter of demand to Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), a subsidiary of ZESA Holdings, demanding payment amounting to more than US$19 000 as compensation for
damages suffered by the 13 year-old child.

The minor child was electrocuted by some exposed electricity cables,
which were left hanging dangerously low and within reach of people at his parents’ residence in Penhalonga in Manicaland province.

As a result of the accident, the child suffered severe electrical burns.

In their letter to ZETDC, Kabaya and Sigauke told the power company that it was liable for the unfortunate accident, which was caused by negligence on the part of its employees, who negligently left exposed electrical cables in a residential area, thereby endangering vulnerable children.

Recently, ZETDC through its insurers Cell Insurance, advised and shared proof of a payment transaction report to Kabaya and Sigauke showing that it had deposited ZWL92 679 793, which is equivalent to US$19 658 into the bank account of the minor child’s parents after it accepted the minor child’s claim and liability for the damages which he suffered from the electrocution.

ZLHR intervened in assisting the minor child as part of its anti-impunity strategies to foster accountability at the country’s
supplier of electricity and to deter and discourage acts of human
rights violations by state-run institutions.

ZLHR has previously intervened in similar cases of ZESA Holdings’
negligence, which shows the dangerous levels of carelessness
prevailing at the state-run power utility and which in some instances
have resulted in deaths and injuries to several people across the country.

Chinese miner fined US$70k for unfair workers’ dismissal

By A Correspondent- A Chinese miner, Bunyip Mine (Pvt) Limited, has been ordered to pay over US$70 000 compensation to four unfairly dismissed workers.

The miner is in Filabusi, Matabeleland South province.

In June this year, the fired quartet — Cosmas Moyo, Remember Muchayi, Doit Ngwenya and Joram Manala — took the company to the National Employment Council for the mining industry alleging unfair termination of their contracts.

The company dismissed the workers on April 7 and hired new employees.

On June 6, the parties appeared before conciliating officer Forbes Chitsenga and signed the reversal of the dismissal and the conditions to pay the four workers.

Abraham Kavalanjila, the president of the Professional and General Mine Workers Union of Zimbabwe, represented the quartet.

On September 29, Chitsenga then made a final determination that the company should pay workers US$7 050,56 for non-payment of gratuity, US$56 404,44 for damages in lieu of reinstatement, US$5 323,50 for non-payment of leave and US$1 955,37 for under payment, giving a total US$70 647,87.

“Parties agreed on a certificate of settlement … which fundamentally incorporated reinstatement without loss of salary and benefits. According to the certificate of settlement, parties had agreed that claimants were to resume duty on June 12. However, when claimants went back to work, the settlement was revoked by one of the senior managers who never partook of the hearing proceedings,” Chitsenga wrote in his determination.

Gwayi Shangani Dam construction over 70% complete

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) says the construction of the Gwayi-Shangani Dam in Matabeleland North Province is now 70.2% complete and efforts are being made to supply Bulawayo with water from the dam soon.

Bulawayo is facing another round of water shortages that have seen residents going for over a week without the precious liquid.

The ambitious project to draw water from the mighty Zambezi River, over 400 kilometres away, is seen as a long lasting solution to Bulawayo’s water woes.

It was first mooted in 1912, and over 100 years later now, the project is yet to be completed.

In January, Agriculture, Water and Rural Development minister Anxious Masuka had said the gigantic Lake Gwayi-Shangani will be completed ahead of the 2023/24 summer cropping season.

Responding to questions on the state of water supply dams for Bulawayo and the Gwayi- Shangani Dam, Zinwa spokesperson, Marjorie Munyonga, said the project was now 70.2% complete.

“In the meantime, efforts are directed at the construction of the Gwayi-Shangani Dam and the Gwayi-Shangani to Bulawayo pipeline, which are the critical components of the Matabeleland Zambezi Water Project, that has for long been touted as the long term solution to Bulawayo’s water challenges,” Munyonga said.

“Once the project is complete, the city will get water. The project is now 70. 2% complete.”

The dam is being constructed by Zinwa in partnership with a Chinese contractor.

Bulawayo currently gets its water supplies from six dams located in Matabeleland South; Insiza Mayfair, Umzingwane, Mtshabezi, Inyankuni, Lower Ncema and Upper Ncema dams.

Munyonga, however, said the dams have been part of the solution to the water challenges being experienced in Bulawayo with the construction of Mtshabezi Pipeline coming in as a medium term solution.

“The Nyamandlovu system is also currently augmenting the water supplies from the dams while the long term solution, which the Matabeleland Zambezi Water Project is being actively and rigorously pursued,” she said.

Munyonga said as of September 20, water levels at Umzingwane Dam were at 8.2%, Mtshabezi Dam 77%, Upper Ncema 24.4%, Inyankuni 31.8%, Lower Ncema 34.8%, and Insiza was at 64%.

Meanwhile, Bulawayo residents complained  that water shortages have worsened in the post-election period.

Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association chairperson, Ambrose Sibindi, said the water crisis may trigger water borne diseases outbreak.

“We are aware that we are on a 72 hour water shedding period but unfortunately in some parts of the suburbs like Pumula South, Pumula East and Nkulumane water goe for more than 72 hours without water,” Sibindi said.

“The residents are really concerned about this.”

Bulawayo town clerk Christopher Dube recently said council supplies water using bowsers to stabilise the situation and prevent outbreaks of waterborne diseases.

ZACC to confiscate over 2k vehicles

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) is poised to confiscate approximately 2,000 vehicles that were brought into the country through the misuse of the civil servants’ rebate program. In collaboration with the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra), Zacc’s investigative department has launched “Operation No to Abuse of Civil Servants Rebate Scheme.”

In 2019, the government introduced the civil servants’ motor vehicle rebate scheme, governed by Statutory Instrument 52 of 2019 of Customs and Exercise [General] [Amendment] Regulations, 2019. This scheme allowed civil servants with ten or more years of service to import motor vehicles up to a specific value for each employment grade without paying import duties.

Former Zacc chairperson Justice Loice Matanda-Moyo, in her last interview before assuming the role of Zimbabwe’s Prosecutor-General, emphasized that due processes were being followed in the conviction-based forfeiture of these vehicles. She also mentioned that Zacc had initiated measures to recover funds, land, and immovable properties acquired by public entities and local authorities through improper means, as identified in the Auditor General’s report.

Justice Matanda-Moyo highlighted that Zacc was working in cooperation with Zimra to target around 2,000 vehicles obtained through the misuse of the civil servants’ rebate scheme, anticipating their forfeiture upon conviction.

Furthermore, she explained that the Commission had implemented administrative recovery measures for assets such as funds, land, and immovable properties that were irregularly allocated by public entities and local authorities, as indicated in the Auditor General’s Report. These efforts aimed to redirect revenue back to the public treasury.

Justice Matanda-Moyo expressed confidence in Zacc’s ability to seize illegally acquired wealth worth over US$1 billion. She mentioned that the Commission was on track to seize assets valued at US$700 million by the end of the year.

Regarding convictions, she noted that Zacc had achieved a 77 percent conviction rate in cases referred to the National Prosecuting Authority, a five percent increase from the previous year’s rate of 72 percent. She remained hopeful of securing more convictions in the final quarter of 2023.

ZANU PF Cuts Ribbon To Commission Collapsing Bridge

The Perils of Shoddy Construction: A Tale of the Gunguwo Bridge in Gokwe North

By Droy Mowlow | ZimEye | In the heart of Gokwe North, Zimbabwe, stands the recently completed Gunguwo Bridge, an ambitious infrastructure project aimed at connecting communities and fostering economic development. However, beneath its seemingly sturdy façade lies a construction method that raises serious concerns about its long-term durability. The Gunguwo Bridge, constructed using bended brick layering and piled-up bricks without the support of pillars, contrasts sharply with the engineering marvels of ancient Rome, where enduring structures have stood for over 2,000 years.

The Gunguwo Bridge: A Modern Construction Challenge

The Gunguwo Bridge, though completed with great fanfare, has already raised numerous red flags among engineering experts. Its construction relied heavily on bended brick layering, where bricks were placed in a curved manner to form the bridge’s arch. This approach is not inherently flawed but requires precise calculations, high-quality materials, and expert craftsmanship to ensure structural integrity.

The absence of pillars in the water beneath the bridge is perhaps the most concerning aspect of its construction. Pillars provide vital support, distributing the weight of the bridge evenly and preventing it from sagging or collapsing. In the case of the Gunguwo Bridge, the absence of these pillars increases the risk of structural failure, especially during floods or heavy rains.

Comparing to Roman Engineering Triumphs

The stark contrast between the construction of the Gunguwo Bridge and the engineering feats of ancient Rome is evident when we examine the enduring structures from the Roman era. Romans were masters of architecture and engineering, and their legacy can be seen in the longevity of their constructions. The Roman use of pillars, especially in aqueducts and bridges, is a testament to their understanding of structural stability.

Roman aqueducts, like the Pont du Gard in France, have stood for over two millennia, relying on well-placed stone arches supported by sturdy pillars. These structures have defied the ravages of time and the forces of nature, proving the effectiveness of their construction methods.

The Danger of Shortcuts in Modern Construction

The Gunguwo Bridge serves as a stark reminder of the perils of cutting corners in modern construction projects. In an era where speed and cost-efficiency often take precedence, the importance of thorough planning, quality materials, and skilled craftsmanship cannot be overstated.

Investing in proper engineering and construction practices is not merely an expense but an investment in the safety and longevity of critical infrastructure. Short-term savings may lead to long-term consequences, as seen with the Gunguwo Bridge, where structural weaknesses could result in catastrophic failures and costly repairs.

Conclusion

The Gunguwo Bridge in Gokwe North stands as a cautionary tale of the dangers of bad construction practices. Its reliance on bended brick layering and the absence of supporting pillars in the water beneath it raises concerns about its long-term stability. In contrast, the enduring structures of ancient Rome, built with meticulous attention to engineering principles, continue to stand strong after more than 2,000 years.

As we admire the achievements of modern engineering, we must remember that shortcuts in construction can have dire consequences. It is essential to prioritize quality, safety, and longevity when building the infrastructure that connects our communities and shapes our future.

ED Replacing Mangudya With Own Nephew

Zimbabwe’s Complex History and the Emergence of Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s Regime.

By Farai D Hove | Zimbabwe, a nation with a complex past, is once again at the center of political intrigue. While it may be a nation built by many, its history is marred by the influence of a single individual, Cecil John Rhodes. But today, the spotlight is on a new figure, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, as his regime seems to consolidate power through a series of calculated moves.

Historically, Zimbabwe was shaped by the actions of Cecil John Rhodes, a British imperialist, and businessman. Rhodes played a pivotal role in the colonization of Zimbabwe, contributing to its formation as we know it today.

However, the latest allegations suggest that a new era is dawning, one dominated by Emmerson Mnangagwa and his family. These claims come from a prominent community commentator, Kerina Mujati, who raises concerns about the growing influence of the Mnangagwa family within the nation.

One of the most significant developments is the alleged plan to retire John Panonetsa Mangudya, the current governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ), earlier than his scheduled term completion on March 31, 2024. According to Mujati, this move is part of a broader strategy to ensure that the RBZ is under the control of the Mnangagwa family by the end of this year. It is reported that John Mushayavanhu, who is said to be Emmerson Mnangagwa’s nephew, will take over as the governor of the RBZ.

What raises further questions is the family’s ties to the financial sector. It is alleged that Emmerson Mnangagwa is the majority shareholder of FBC Bank, a financial institution that recently acquired Standard Chartered Bank. This consolidation of power within the banking sector suggests that Zimbabwe is moving closer to becoming an “Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa entity.”

As these allegations continue to unfold, Zimbabweans and the international community are left to grapple with the implications of this apparent concentration of power. The nation’s complex history, once dominated by Cecil John Rhodes, is now facing a new chapter under the leadership of Emmerson Mnangagwa, with his family’s influence casting a long shadow over the nation’s future. Stay tuned as developments in Zimbabwe’s political landscape continue to unfold.

Horror As Man Spends Hours With Spear Stuck In Mouth, Chest

A 23-year-old man from Gwanda is lucky to be alive after an attack by a rival suitor, who left him with a spear thrust into his mouth pinning his head to the chest.

The man had a successful operation at the United Bulawayo Hospital to remove the spear early this week.

Freeman Ncube is fortunate to live to tell what befell him early this week when he decided to visit the mother of his two-year-old daughter, whom he had separated with.

“I had gone to see the mother of my child and when I got there, I got attacked by a man who claimed to be her boyfriend,” he said.

Ear, Nose and Throat specialist, Dr John Kutsukutsa who was among five doctors who took part in the two-hour operation to remove the spear, said Ncube was lucky to be alive because the spear missed the major veins.

“He came here with a 1.5 metre spear thrust in his mouth and right into his chest, so it was a difficult case and this man is very lucky to be alive,” he said.

UBH Head of Surgery, Dr Tongesai Mukosera said the operation was a collective effort of doctors from his institution as well as other experts from Mpilo Hospital.

“I don’t want to lie by taking all the credit. This was collective work. When we realised, we could not pull it off on our own, we asked for a helping hand from Mpilo Hospital,” he said.

The Minister of State for Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Judith Ncube said the level of dedication and expertise displayed by the doctors to save the speared man is commendable.

“This success story shows that as Zimbabwe we are capable. Our health sector is not dead,” said Hon Ncube.

Zimbabwe continues to record remarkable strides in the health sector. A lot of success stories are being recorded in open heart surgeries, as well as in the construction of health institutions.

MUJOLO INSIDE ZBC: Bosses Raping Juniors- ZMC Issues Presser

FULL TEXT:

The Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC) is deeply concerned about sexual harassment and sexual abuse that is reported to be rampant in the media sector. The reports received from our interface with practitioners and other stakeholders indicate that the practice has become endemic and deeply entrenched in the media industry.

The ZMC is calling for a zero tolerance to the scourge irrespective of the position, class, status and gender of the alleged perpetrators. There must be safe spaces for everyone in the newsrooms and other work spaces. As the Regulator of the Media Industry in Zimbabwe, the ZMC shall not turn a blind eye to the cancer that threatens to destroy the industry. The ZMC urges survivors to report any violations and harassment to their organisations’ sexual harassment committees, immediate authorities, or to any preferred entity within the media sector, victim-friendly units of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, as well as the Zimbabwe Gender Commission, among other centres, to ensure that perpetrators are held accountable.

The ZMC urges stakeholders and partners to hold immediate disciplinary hearings following the immediate suspension of the alleged perpetrators so as to make room for unfettered investigations outside the intimidation of alleged victims. It goes without saying that the alleged perpetrator will then be expected to stay away from the said entity grounds so as to avoid any sort of intimidation of possible victims, as well as witnesses, until investigations are complete. It is our hope that the validation of the Draft Sexual Harassment Policy that the ZMC held on Wednesday 27th September 2023 in Harare, continues gaining traction within the media sector to rid our society of this cancer.

Further, it should be noted that the ZMC will not tolerate false reporting of sexual misconduct and harassment in the media fraternity. Should it be found that an individual has falsely accused another of sexual harassment, disciplinary proceedings are to be immediately held, paving way for the suspension of the individual propagating falsehoods. Any false report must also be accompanied by a public apology as such allegations can seriously harm one’s professional and social standing, thus the ZMC will not be seen to be tolerating such malicious behaviour.

As part of its continual efforts to professionalise the media industry, as well as create safe workspaces for all our practitioners and stakeholders, the ZMC looks forward to adoption and launching of its Draft Sexual Harassment Policy that has a zero tolerance for any form of sexual abuse. The Policy provides the framework for the entire Zimbabwe media industry. It is the ZMC’s sincere hope that all stakeholders remain professional in and outside their workspaces and continue to uphold the good reputation and ethical standards that the Zimbabwean media industry has created over the years.

Govt Commissions Roman-Era Bridge

By Farai D Hove | In an unexpected move, the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU PF) government confidently commissioned the Gunguwo Bridge last week, a structure that draws striking parallels to the iconic bridges of the Roman Empire.

The Gunguwo Bridge, situated at the intersection of Gokwe North District and Mashonaland West Province, is a testament to architectural excellence that seems to harken back to the grandeur of the Roman Empire. The bridge, constructed with precision and finesse, represents a remarkable achievement in engineering and infrastructure development.

.

The bridge’s inauguration ceremony, attended by government officials, engineers, and local residents, was a momentous occasion. It marks a significant step forward in Zimbabwe’s commitment to modernizing its infrastructure.

One cannot help but draw comparisons between the Gunguwo Bridge and the masterpieces of engineering from the Roman Empire. The design principles and craftsmanship employed in the construction of this bridge seem to pay homage to an era when bridges were not merely utilitarian structures but works of art.

The Gunguwo Bridge spans a river, connecting two regions that were previously separated by natural obstacles. Its robust stone foundations, intricate arches, and meticulously crafted masonry work are reminiscent of the Roman aqueducts and bridges that have withstood the test of time for centuries.

Government officials expressed their confidence in the project, highlighting its significance in enhancing connectivity between Gokwe North District and Mashonaland West Province. The bridge is expected to facilitate the movement of goods, people, and services, thereby boosting economic activity in the region.

ZACC Ignores ZANU Theft, Raids Civil Servants Cars

ZACC Targets Civil Servants’ Vehicles Amid Allegations of Inaction on Political Parties-

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has launched an operation to impound approximately 2,000 vehicles imported through the civil servants’ rebate scheme, alleging abuse. This operation, conducted in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra), is called “Operation No to Abuse of Civil Servants Rebate Scheme.”

In 2019, the government introduced the civil servants’ motor vehicle rebate scheme, allowing civil servants with ten or more years of service to import vehicles up to a specified value for each employment grade without paying import duty, as per Statutory Instrument 52 of 2019 of Customs and Exercise [General] [Amendment] Regulations, 2019.

Former ZACC chairperson Justice Loice Matanda-Moyo, now Zimbabwe’s Prosecutor-General, emphasized that due processes were followed in the conviction-based forfeiture of these vehicles. She also noted that ZACC had initiated measures to recover unlawfully acquired funds, land, and immovable properties by public entities and local authorities, as identified in the Auditor General’s report.

“Operation No to Abuse of Civil Servants Rebate Scheme” is part of ZACC’s efforts to curb corruption and recover ill-gotten wealth, with a target of seizing assets worth US$1 billion. Justice Matanda-Moyo expressed confidence in achieving this goal, with expectations of seizing assets worth US$700 million by year-end.

Furthermore, ZACC reported a 77 percent conviction rate in cases referred to the National Prosecuting Authority, marking a five percent increase from the previous year. The Commission remains optimistic about securing more convictions in the coming months.

However, these actions by ZACC have raised concerns among some observers who argue that the focus on civil servants’ vehicles appears disproportionate when compared to allegations of corruption involving political parties and election-related activities. Critics claim that while targeting civil servants, ZACC has not taken substantial action against alleged abuse of state resources for political gain. This situation has prompted debates about the priorities and political impartiality of the anti-corruption body.

As this situation unfolds, many are closely watching how ZACC’s actions will impact corruption in Zimbabwe, and whether it will address allegations of selective enforcement.

We’re Owners Of “Luv”

Chicken Inn Wins Trademark Battle Over “Luv”-

Chicken Inn, the renowned take-away food giant, has emerged triumphant in a trademark infringement case against its local competitor, Chicken Slice. The dispute centered around the use and spelling of the word “luv,” which Chicken Inn had trademarked.

Last year, Chicken Inn, owned by Simbisa Brands but listed in court papers as Inscor Africa, filed a lawsuit against Slice Distributors at the High Court, accusing Chicken Slice of infringing on its registered trademark by using the phrase “I luv it” in its branding.

Initially, the High Court dismissed Chicken Inn’s application, arguing that Chicken Inn did not have exclusive rights to the word “luv,” and consumers would not be confused by the two products. However, Chicken Inn appealed this decision to the Supreme Court.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Chicken Inn, finding that Chicken Slice had indeed violated Chicken Inn’s trademarks. The court noted similarities in the use of the word “luv” and color schemes between the two brands, which led to consumer confusion.

While the court upheld Chicken Inn’s claim regarding the use of “luv,” it did not support Chicken Inn’s argument that Chicken Slice was attempting to pass off its products as those of Chicken Inn.

This landmark judgment emphasizes the importance of trademark protection in Zimbabwe. It serves as a warning to businesses against misrepresentation and the use of confusingly similar marks, leading to illegal and unfair competition.

This legal victory by Chicken Inn echoes a similar trademark case from October 2021, where the Supreme Court ruled against copying another person’s trademark for one’s products with branding that could mislead customers.

These rulings solidify Zimbabwe as a jurisdiction committed to safeguarding commercial rights and trademarks, underlining the significance of protecting intellectual property in the business landscape.- state media

Zim Chief Denies CCC Supporters Presidential Inputs

Chief Nyamandi Accused of Politically Biased Distribution of Agricultural Inputs.

Presidential inputs – file

In a startling revelation, Acting Chief Nyamandi, born Siyano Machaya, has been accused of instructing village heads in Gutu District not to provide Presidential agricultural inputs to individuals who did not vote for Zanu PF in the August 2023 harmonized elections. This shocking information came to light through an investigation conducted by the Masvingo Mirror.

Acting Chief Nyamandi, whose chieftainship spans three wards and is the largest and most populous in Gutu District, allegedly made these divisive instructions during a telephone conversation with an undercover journalist from The Mirror. He claimed to have the backing of Zanu PF national secretary for security and Minister of State in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Lovemore Matuke, in this program. Additionally, Nyamandi reportedly stated that he is collaborating with Central Intelligence Officers (CIO) and Police officers from the CID in Gutu to enforce these directives among village heads.

The Mirror reveals recordings of the chief, despite the fact that by law, chiefs are prohibited from engaging in politics.

Earlier this week, on September 30, 2023, Nyamandi allegedly addressed village heads at Mutero and explicitly instructed them not to provide any Presidential inputs to supporters of the CCC party, saying, “Inputs coming from the President are for his supporters.”

Lovemore Matuke, however, distanced himself from Nyamandi’s statements, emphasizing that Presidential inputs should be available to everyone. Police Spokesperson Paul Nyathi stated that he could only comment after gathering more information on the issue.

CIO Director General Isaac Moyo could not be reached for comment, and Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission spokesperson Everson Mushava remained unresponsive to inquiries.

In response to these allegations, CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi urged chiefs to remain neutral and embrace all their subjects, while Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum acting executive director Wilfred Mandinde stressed that presidential inputs are meant for all citizens and should not be politicized.

This revelation has raised concerns about the impartiality of aid distribution and the involvement of chiefs in political matters. Gutu District, known for its political polarization, has experienced similar issues in the past. This controversy highlights the need for transparency and fairness in the distribution of government aid, especially during politically charged times.

Former Tourism Minister Engineer Walter Mzembi has challenged CCC MPs to be wary of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s secret manoeuvres.

According to Eng Mzembi, Mnangagwa is desperate to restore Zanu PF’s 2/3 majority in Parliament, even if it means killing opponents.

“The cruel & crude hunt for a 2/3 majority begins . It will take all forms , shapes& modes. Be careful where you eat what you eat , watch your review mirrors, be super careful on the the road , who you date & sleep with, this is in addition to these recalls !

These CIO & FAZ inspired recalls of @CCCZimbabwe Councillors and MPs are exactly the reason why there should be a @SADC_News Extraordinary Summit on Zimbabwe.

Destabilization of a State starts with State sponsored destabilization of political parties, “Eng Mzembi wrote on X

Windfall For Mnangagwa Bootlickers

Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivhayo is on a roll.

Earlier today, he gifted comedians Sabhuku Vharazipi, Amai John and Chairman with US$10,000 each for a skit they did praising President Emmerson Mnangagwa for uplifting artists.

Wicknell also donated US$50,000 to ZANU-PF singer Chief Hwenje and US$60,000 to DJ Masomere to buy houses.

DJ Masomere gained notoriety for screaming, “Hallo Chimira Jah Prayzah!” at President Mnangagwa’s inauguration last month.-263 Chat

Kuwadzana Residents, City Council Clash Over Construction Of Clinic

Our views as concerned residents of Ward 38, Kuwadzana Constituency

After realizing there is space for the construction of a council clinic now subdivided for a satellite clinic and a Commercial clinic.

It is our view as residents of Kuwadzana to have a proper poly clinic than a satellite clinic .

We are informed there is a private player to construct the satellite, who is the owner of the commercial clinic.

Our view is that if the council has no capacity to build a proper clinic in Kuwadzana , why can’t they wait for a proper time than to rush to erect a small satellite clinic.

The site plan benefits the community not a private player, The said Dr Nyuswa. He is a private doctor . Many residents will be affected if a private clinic is to be constructed.

An approximate number of catchment area Kuwadzana Ward 38, 44 and Granary and part of Zvimba will benefit from a council clinic rather than a private clinic.

SA Scribes Press Mnangagwa Over ZEPs

By-President Emmerson Mnangagwa sneakily ducked questions Thursday when asked to give his thoughts on current efforts by South Africa to tame effusive Zimbabwean migration through the much-talked about Zimbabwe Exemption Permits (ZEP).
Mnangagwa joined South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa at Musina border post to launch the Border Management Authority (BMA), an integrated border enforcement agency between the neighbours meant to curb illegal goods smuggling, illicit drugs and cover up porous border concerns.
Mnangagwa, known for his evasive responses even when he featured in parliament as leader of government business years gone by, chose to fly off at a tangent through unsolicited reminisce on his recent US jaunt with Ramaphosa during the UN General Assembly.
“We met in New York and had a family chat, when my brother (Ramaphosa) told me that he was coming to officially launch the BMA on this day, I told him it was an opportunity for us to meet so we decided that we inspect both sides together.
“If we continuously meet as presidents, why shouldn’t our people from either borders have the same relationship?
“We want the two people from both ends to talk as good as we, as presidents talk to each other,” Mnangagwa said.
The Zanu PF led administration is blamed for economic ruin that has driven millions out of the country in search of job opportunities and better living.
South Africa, according to a recent Zimbabwe census report, hosts the largest Zimbabwean diaspora base with a majority being undocumented migrants.
The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency in September 2022 indicated South Africa is home to 700,000 Zimbabweans. There are about 178,000 ZEP holders, according to South African authorities.
ZEP holders can legally work in South Africa until 31 December even if they are not successful in their applications for other visas.

Zanu PF Losing MPs Defy Mnangagwa

By- Several losing Zanu PF MPs have defied the party’s directive to return cars allocated for the 2023 election campaign.

The party’s secretary general, Obert Mpofu, Zanu PF, issued a directive to all the losing MPs two weeks ago.

“The losing candidates are to return the vehicles, which are top-of-the-range cars such as Toyota Hilux GD6s, Ford Rangers, and Nissan Navaras, to the party headquarters by Wednesday, 4 October 2023, without fail:

“This serves as a directive to all the ZANU-PF parliamentary candidates that participated and did not succeed in the just-ended harmonised elections to surrender the party vehicles that were allocated to them to the Zanu PF party headquarters by Wednesday, 4 October 2023 without fail. This is pursuant to the circular that was issued before, followed by a decision made by the party leadership at the Politburo Meeting held on 28 September 2023. All Provincial Chairpersons are directed to ensure that this directive is implemented without fail. Your cooperation on this matter will be greatly appreciated.”

ZANU-PF secured new campaign cars for its 210 parliamentary candidates before the 2023 elections. The party also paid a US$1,000 nomination fee and all campaign expenses for its candidates. However, 73 ZANU-PF candidates lost the election, and the ruling party is taking no prisoners.

It Never Rains For Prophet T Freddy As Glen View Residents Demand Compensation For Destroyed Sweet Potatoes

By A Correspondent| The demolition of Goodness and Mercy Ministries founder Prophet T Freddy’s house in Glen View has stirred up mixed reactions among the local residents.

Despite having proper council papers including compliance certificates, the Harare City Council proceeded to to demolish his property on September 28.

However the city’s Deputy mayor Kudzai Kadzombe publicly confirmed that the affected beneficiaries will be compenstated and relocated.

The announcement and some series of meetings between the council officials and the man of cloth has however been met with mixed feelings by Glenview residents.

During the demolition, some Glen View residents were observed celebrating the destruction.

On the day of demolitions, residents reportedly looted the prophet’s various items that include furniture, batteries, inverters, sliding gates and meter taps among other things.

One resident allegedly sold the gates, hoping to make a fortune.

These acts of looting raise questions about the morality of certain residents.

The decision made by the council to demolish legal houses has left the victims vulnerable, some neighbour’s who used to cultivate sweet potatoes (mbambaira) six years ago on the land claim on the land are now claiming compensation from the victims despite the stand being allocated in 2017.

In other attempt by the residents to milk and frustrate the man of cloth, neighbours who used to cultivate sweet potatoes (mbambaira) on the land before it was allocated to Prophet T Freddy are now claiming compensation.

Retired Colonel Njiva last week filed a complaint against Prophet T Freddy, accusing him of malicious damage to property.

Njiva alleges that the Prophet destroyed his car park guard room and barbed wire upon occupying his allocated stand years back.

An investigation by this publication shows that the guard room was not originally located within Prophet T Freddy’s allocated stand.

It appears that Njiva’s bitterness stems from the Harare City Council’s decision to remove his temporary car park after allocating it to the Prophet for Residential purposes .

“That is a desperate attempt to get money or may be to frustrate him. Remember he was the last person to build here, the said guardroom and fence was not even in his stand and to make matters worse these car park owners had a meeting with council officials where they were told that it was a residential area and they needed to remove their properties…..saka hapana nyaya kuzama kutsvaga Mari uku,” a resident fumed.

An anonymous neighbor suggests that Prophet T Freddy should consider relocating from Glen View due to the apparent enemity he faces considering that his church was also demolished in 2020 in the same area.

This viewpoint reflects a broader sentiment that the Prophet may have enemies throughout the community.

While some residents celebrated the incident, others question the motives behind the demolition and expressed concerns over the Prophet’s safety.

Victory For Mai TiTi

By-The State last week withdrew fraud charges against comedian Felistas Murata, also known as Mai Titi after she repaid the complainant’s US$10,000.

The withdrawal of charges took place before Harare magistrate Ms Apolonia Marutya, The Herald reported.

According to the State’s case, in September 2022, Mai Titi allegedly misrepresented to Rachel Mhuka that she needed US$10,000 for a business venture and offered her a Mercedes Benz as collateral. However, the vehicle did not belong to Murata. Mhuka gave her the money, but Murata later claimed that the Mercedes Benz was not hers and instead provided an Audi Q5 as collateral.

Murata again withdrew the Audi Q5 and replaced it with an invalid passport as surety. When Mhuka discovered that the passport Murata gave her was invalid, she confronted Murata, who returned the second vehicle.

In January of this year, police seized the car, claiming it had been stolen from Else Event Car Hire. The company had reported Murata for theft of trust property. Murata was sentanced to 12v months in prison of which six were suspended on condition that she doesn’t commit a similar offence in the next 5 years.

It was also revealed during the trial that Mai TT had previously defaulted on community service hours for an assault conviction eight years ago. As a result, she was ordered to serve an additional three months in prison for the default. In total, she was sentenced to serve an effective nine months behind bars.

Can ZESA Be Trusted?

Zimbabwe Electricity Tariff Increase Application Raises Questions About Reliability.

The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) has applied for a significant increase in electricity tariffs for 2023, setting off a wave of debate and concern among consumers and analysts alike. The proposed increase of US2 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) is stated to be crucial for maintaining stable power supplies and supporting economic growth.

The current Zesa electricity tariffs stand at a minimum of $137 per kWh, and the proposed increase would take it to approximately $147 in local currency. ZETDC claims that the additional revenue generated from this tariff adjustment will be allocated to various projects, including the rehabilitation and maintenance of the transmission and distribution network, servicing of loans for specific power units, and refurbishing older units.

In a public notice, ZETDC cited compliance with the Electricity Act (Chapter 13:19) of 2002 as the basis for their tariff review application. They listed reasons for seeking the increase, including covering the costs of purchasing electricity, operations, maintenance, regulatory expenses, research and development, and general administration. Moreover, the increase is purportedly intended to create the capacity to support economic growth in multiple sectors.

One of the key promises made by ZETDC is the improvement of revenue collection and reduction of system losses through various measures. These measures include the completion of a prepaid metering program, installation of smart meters, migration of medium and large power users to prepayment, and the completion of statistical metering for load balancing.

However, the proposal has raised concerns, particularly in light of comparisons with neighboring countries. A quick survey of electricity tariffs in the Southern African region reveals that ZETDC currently has one of the lowest charges, with tariffs in South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, Madagascar, Mauritius, Malawi, Eswatini, Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania, and Seychelles significantly higher.

Zimbabweans have experienced fluctuations in power availability, from enjoying consistent power following the commissioning of new generators to recently witnessing a return of load shedding. This erratic power supply is partly attributed to issues such as ZETDC’s debt from the purchase of electricity and reduced generation at power stations due to factors like low dam levels.

Analysts argue that while a tariff increase may be necessary to address the power crisis and ensure the capacity to purchase power locally and from neighboring countries, the real issue lies in the utility’s financial stability and efficient operation.

As this situation unfolds, stakeholders, including consumers, will closely monitor the proceedings and await a decision from the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) regarding the tariff increase application. The outcome of this application will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications for Zimbabwe’s energy landscape and its economic development prospects.- Agencies

Mighty Warriors In Perfect Start

THE Mighty Warriors signalled their return to international football with a one-nil victory over Lesotho at the ongoing COSAFA Women’s Championship in Pretoria, South Africa.

Substitute, Privilege Mupeti was the heroine of the day after she rose from the bench to give Zimbabwe a one-nil victory over a determined Lesotho at a very hot Lucas Moripe stadium.

Zimbabwe, parading some of their future stars, started a bit jittery on their return to international football following an 18-month suspension by FIFA.

18-year-old midfielder Tanyaradzwa Chihoro showed great composure and flashes of brilliance on her senior national team debut before being replaced at the breather.

The second half saw another youngster and attacking midfielder Ennet Chemhere being introduced and showing off some fancy footwork.

It was, however, the battle-hardened Mupeti who scored the decisive goal for Zimbabwe in the 57th minute after Lesotho had remained resolute.

Before that, captain Rudo Neshamba who seemed a touch slower, missed a great chance in the 30th minute, while speedy Christabel Katona also failed to compose herself twice after finding herself with acres of space.

The victory pleased coach, Shadreck Mlauzi who is looking to build a side for the future.

“The result is good, we are happy but I believe we could have done better in certain instances, again, we have to be realistic when we were not playing, others were busy improving. So, we are playing catch up but starting a tournament with a victory is good because it gives you confidence,” said Mlauzi.

His Lesotho Colleague believes they were the better team.

“I thought we played better than Zimbabwe, although we did not create chances, but we still have six points to play for,” said Lesotho coach, Pule Khojane.

COSAFA Women’s Championship action moves from Pretoria to Johannesburg this Saturday with two matches slated for Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto.

In the first match, Group A leaders Malawi take on Eswatini at midday before hosts South Africa who are looking to bounce back to winning ways face Madagascar at 3 pm.

CoS FRAUD Alert: Sandra Byrne Zambezi

A notorious UK Zimbabwean woman linked to a series of dramatic fraud-related offences, Sandra Zambezi , has been accused in a CoS affiliated scam.

Sandra, whose married surname was Byrne, before her divorce, is a former convict over a staged robbery at her home in Harare. She is also known for allegedly duping her British husband in estate money leading to the man suing her for maintenance USD3,000 per month.

ZimEye was still to receive a comment from Sandra over complaints from Zimbabweans who reported her in online forums (picture).

Violent Chipangano Leader Rejoins Zanu PF

By- One of the leaders of a Zanu PF vigilante grouping, Chipangano, Jim Kunaka has rejoined Zanu PF after spending years in the opposition, which he has now denounced as ideologically bankrupt.

ZANU PF Secretary for Administration, Obert Mpofu, told The Herald that Kunaka was welcome to rejoin, as “he is a product of the party”.

Addressing journalists in Harare on Thursday, Kunaka said he was back in ZANU PF as an ordinary card-carrying member. He said:

I was myopic and misled by anger and disgruntlement. I am a ZANU PF member to the core and no one can take it away from me. This is my decision and I am not influenced by anyone.

I am ready to work for the party as a messenger. I am ready to deliver. I am ready to work for the party to ensure Harare is back to ZANU PF.

The truth of the matter is that there is nothing there; opposition parties are full of failures.

Some of them have been MPs, but they have nothing to show for it. Why should I follow such blind people?

I said there was nothing that could stop me from returning home. This is my decision as a politician.

Kunaka, a former ZANU PF Harare Provincial Youth chairman, is mostly known for having led a violent youth group called Chipangano, which meted out violence on opposition party members in Harare.

In 2018, when he appeared before the Motlanthe Commission, Kunaka claimed that he had played a key role in violence meted out on MDC-T, especially during the 2008 elections.

He accused the army of killing people during the 1 August 2018 protests and urged the commission to consider ZANU-PF’s alleged history of violence.

Mai Titi Proudly Enjoys Relief As Murdered Moreblessing’s Ali Lawyer Remains Jailed

Mai Titi vs Moreblessing Ali/Job Sikhala

By A Correspondent | ANALYSIS | In a paradoxical spin of events, ZANU PF comedian Felistas Murata, popularly known as Mai Titi, is set to be let off into the first few months of her sentence for serious fraud. The State withdrew the charges against her after she repaid the complainant’s US$10,000. This decision was made before Harare magistrate Ms. Apolonia Marutya, as reported by The Herald.

The case against Mai Titi stemmed from allegations that in September 2022, she misrepresented to Rachel Mhuka, promising a business venture and using a Mercedes Benz as collateral. However, the vehicle did not belong to Murata, and after a series of exchanges, it was discovered that the passport she provided as surety was invalid. As a result, she was initially sentenced to 12 months in prison, with six months suspended, and an additional three months for defaulting on community service from a previous conviction.

This release has sparked controversy, especially when compared to the long imprisonment of CCC party mother of two Moreblessing Ali’s lawyer, Hon. Job Sikhala. Sikhala has been incarcerated for over a year while representing the murdered mother and CCC activist, Moreblessing Ali. Ali’s disappearance on May 24, 2022, led to widespread concern and investigations.

Despite government pressure, Ali’s family has refused to bury her until Job Sikhala is released. ZimEye had to deploy drone technology to search for her remains, highlighting the mysterious circumstances surrounding her case. ZANU PF spokesperson Simba Chisango initially claimed to know that Moreblessing Ali was alive, but her whereabouts remained unknown.

The situation in Nyatsime, where Ali was abducted, has been tense, with fear palpable among residents. Chisango’s involvement in the case has been questioned, but the police report cleared him of any wrongdoing, failing to mention that the accused, Pius Jamba, is Chisango’s cousin.

Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa’s CCC party has been conducting its investigations and revealed that Pius Jamba is also wanted for other criminal offenses, including murder and fraud. Jamba is believed to be in hiding in Hurungwe.

Mai Titi’s swift release, in contrast to Job Sikhala’s prolonged incarceration and the unresolved case of Moreblessing Ali, has raised significant concerns about the justice system and the influence of powerful individuals in Zimbabwe. The international community is closely monitoring these developments, and the controversy surrounding these cases is far from over.

Ex- mayor attacked by robbers

Former City of Harare acting mayor, Sekesai Makwavarara, was injured in a robbery attack on her Raffingora farm in Mashonaland West province. Three other individuals were also injured in the attack.

Makwavarara, who initially belonged to the opposition MDC before switching to Zanu-PF, served as a deputy mayor and later as acting mayor of Harare. She took on the role of acting mayor after Mayor Elias Mudzuri was removed by the central government. In 2006, she headed a commission that oversaw the council’s affairs until December 2008.

The robbery was carried out by June Kanyumbo (40), who used violence to forcibly take property from the victims. According to the charges, on August 29, 2023, at Tinta Nyarupinda farm in Raffingora, Kanyumbo assaulted John Mureko using an iron bar and wooden logs while demanding cash and valuables. He also took an iTel cellphone handset from Mureko.

On the same date and at the same location, Kanyumbo attacked Makwavarara using an iron bar, wooden logs, and a knife, stabbing her in the thigh while demanding cash and valuables. He also removed a 32-inch plasma television set from the wall and took a remote control unit.

In another incident, Kanyumbo assaulted Anyway Mundoza and stole a Huawei cellphone handset, US$33, a driver’s license, and other documents. He also attacked Custom Ngazimbi, taking his cellphone handset.

Makwavarara received medical treatment at Banket District Hospital, where she was examined by a government doctor. The medical affidavit indicated that she sustained injuries including a bruised left cheek, right eye haemorrhage, a bruised left leg, and a deep cut on the thigh. Makwavarara chose to receive specialist care at a private hospital in Harare.

The case has been postponed for routine remand by Chinhoyi Magistrate Shepherd Munjanja.

Debate over Pokello Nare’s union to Mnangagwa jnr

By Showbiz Reporter | The Socialite Pokello Nare’s relationship with one of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s sons has ignited a fierce debate, leaving many questioning the intricacies of their union.

Pokello who posted pictures of herself wearing a 24 carat gold ring when contacted by ZimEye for comment, laughed off the idea of a wedding but did not explicitly deny the possibility, leaving the situation shrouded in mystery.

Pokello Nare

The controversy stems from the fact that Pokello is the stepdaughter of Ignatious Chombo, a man who faced public humiliation at the hands of President Mnangagwa following the November 2017 coup, leading to his loss of a powerful cabinet ministerial position.

Chombo, Pokello’s stepfather, was stripped of all his respect and influence due to the political upheaval. It’s worth noting that two years ago, Pokello vehemently denied a ZANU PF report that suggested she had been secretly married to one of President Mnangagwa’s sons.

However, recent reports now claim that Pokello received lobola (bride price) in 2021, adding fuel to the rumors of her marriage. When contacted by ZimEye for comment, Pokello laughed off the idea of a wedding but did not explicitly deny the possibility, leaving the situation shrouded in mystery.

Pokello Nare

Pokello Nare, known for her lavish lifestyle, including showcasing expensive cars and outfits, gained fame as a former participant on Big Brother Africa. She is also the daughter of one of Ignatius Chombo’s girlfriends. The latest twist in this saga suggests that Nare might have entered into marriage to protect her father from potential prosecution, though she has yet to address these allegations.

This development further complicates the already intricate web of marriages and intermarriages within the ZANU PF elite circles, raising questions about the motivations behind such unions and their political implications. The public awaits Pokello’s response and the resolution of this perplexing situation.

Zim woman truck driver in Europe

A 29-year-old woman from Zimbabwe is a social media sensation after making a name for herself as one of Europe’s top truck drivers. The achievement is one for the books for Sikhanyisiwe Tazvitya, who was once a maid in Zimbabwe’s capital, Harare.

Popularly known as @Laydytruckerzim, Sikhanyisiwe Tazvitya, is a proud trucker in Warsaw, Poland, where she now lives and works. With over 100,000 Facebook followers, the former maid turned earthmoving equipment operator, says she is proud of her achievement.

“I started as a maid in Harare and then I decided to upgrade myself to Earthmoving Equipment Operator, but it was not easy because my salary was very little but through dedication and asking for help from my family and that’s when my life changed. Now I am a truck driver.”, she said.

Tazvitya says that she didn’t want to settle as an earthmoving equipment operator and decided to pursue a training course in the male-dominated field of driving. “The Earthmoving job did not stop me from wanting more, I did it all and still saved up for Truck Driving Training, and here we are today, doing what most men are failing to do. This is my story and now I live in Poland.”

To many men and women who have followed her journey, Tazvitya has been an inspiration. Fellow Zimbabwean, Hope Magara of the Midlands, who also now lives in Poland, says she is now a trucker thanks to Tazvitya. She said, “Sikhanyisiwe was my first driver, trainer and mentor, now I am here in Poland working, she is very kind and a blessing. It is doable. To other women out there, If I can do it, so can you. Never give up”.

Fellow Zimbabwean Zamani Dhlodhlo, is already working as a truck driver in South Africa, but is planning to join Tazvitya in Poland. Through her @LadytruckerZim Facebook page, Tazvitya has been helping many like Dhlodhlo process documents to work abroad. Mr Dhlodhlo said, “I am a truck driver in South Africa, I have already completed my application process. I have my work permit ready, I am just waiting on my visa and I will be off to Poland. Many companies in Europe have no idea how much of a treasure Tazvitya is because as she helps us, she is also helping them with their labor needs.”

As a single mother of two children, Tazvitya says she wants to see more women succeed in anything they pursue by staying true to their dreams. “Believe in yourself, take calculated risks, work hard, take care of yourself, stay true to yourself and ignore negativity. Surround yourself with people who are supportive of your goals. Stay hungry, fight harder and never give up. We can do this, and don’t forget to pray.”

For now, Tazvitya has no plans to leave the trucking business anytime soon and hopes to continue inspiring others.

Prophetess on the run for kidnapping

By A correspondent- A woman who claims to be a prophetess is currently on the run after kidnapping a client’s baby in Mutare on October 6, 2023. The Mutare police are requesting assistance from the public in locating the suspect, identified as Madzimai Getrude.

A police report seen by Pindula News said the incident took place at a shrine near Mutare Teachers College, where the suspect asked the complainant to fetch herbs for the baby’s supposed healing. Read the report:

Police in Mutare are appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of a self proclaimed prophetess, only identified as Madzimai Getrude, who is being sought in connection with a case of kidnapping which occurred at a shrine near Mutare Teachers College on 06/10/23.

The suspect went away with the complainant’s baby after sending her to find some herbs which were to be allegedly used to heal the baby who was not feeling well. Anyone with information to report to any nearest Police Station.

In Zimbabwe, babies are sometimes kidnapped for various reasons. This can include trafficking, where babies are sold or exploited, and ritualistic practices for certain beliefs. Kidnappers may also have financial motives, such as demanding ransom from the baby’s family.

It’s important to remember that these cases are not common, and the government is committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens, especially children.

Authorities have been urging parents and guardians to stay vigilant, take precautions, and report any suspicious activities. They can also teach them about personal safety, avoiding strangers, and safe travel routes.

What happened: It is alleged that Chakanyuka, along with her late husband Pardon Chakanyuka, sold stand number 48 Borrowdale Township of Subdivision E of Lot H Borrowdale Estate measuring 3 624sqm in 2017 to local businessman McLeod Mapanga for US$135,000 but withheld the title deeds.

The transfer of the property was supposed to be carried out by Chakanyuka and Associates Law Firm, owned by the accused’s husband. However, the transfer was not completed before Mapanga passed away in 2018.

After Mapanga’s death, his estate was registered and Pardon was appointed as the executor. The accused and her husband did not transfer the property at that stage. Later, the accused fraudulently pledged the property as security for a debt owed to Bell Petroleum (Pvt) Ltd, despite the property being sold and possession given to Mapanga and his beneficiaries.

Pardon passed away, and the accused included the property in her late husband’s estate, despite not completing the transfer. As a result, the complainant was prejudiced of US$135,000, and no recovery has been made. The accused will face trial on October 16.

Mai TiTi Off-The-Hook

By-The State has withdrawn fraud charges against comedian Felistas Murata also known as Mai Titiafter she repaid the complainant’s US$10,000.

Dj Scott suspended over s_exual harassment

Power FM station manager, Scott Matengambiri, better known as DJ Scott, has been suspended by ZBC for allegedly demanding oral sex from a female subordinate.

A local publication reported ZBC sources as saying a complaint of sexual harassment was made against Matengambiri.

The radio personality allegedly pestered a young female employee for oral sex in return for offering her a job.

Matengambiri is reportedly planning to tender his resignation to avoid appearing before ZBC’s human resources department for a disciplinary hearing.

ZBC chief executive officer Adelaide Chikunguru refused to comment when approached by ZimLive.

Matengambiri, who has been a ZBC employee for nearly two decades, hosts a popular radio show in which he advises listeners on how to handle difficult love situations.

The popular radio personality is, however, not the first ZBC top employee to be involved in a sex scandal within a week.

ZBC radio services director Robson Mhandu was also suspended last week for allegedly demanding sex from a subordinate, Farai Juliet Magada.

Mhandu, who once contested elections on a ZANU PF ticket, is reportedly determined to fight his case.

Bees menace for family looking for stolen cattle

By A Correspondent- In a suspected case of witchcraft, a Bulawayo family were last week followed by a swarm of bees while they went out in search of their stolen seven cows that went missing around June 2023.

The family managed to identify some of their cows along Airport Road in the outskirts of the city center last week Friday.

Speaking to CITE, the victim Nyasha Rugube said, together with his wife, he rushed to the plots outside the city when they received a call from the herd boy who had managed to identify some of the cows.

“We lost seven cows around early June and we have been looking for them. We recently managed to locate them around Airport Road. The herd boy identified the cows while he was on his way from the city centre, so we had to quickly rush there,” Rugube said.

“We arrived at the area around Airport Road and managed to identify three of our cows. When we were about to go with the cows, a strong tornado appeared, after that a swarm of bees appeared and we had to run to the car. Some of the bees entered the car but we managed to kill them. We then took our cows and left.”

Rugube said the following day, he had to go back hunting for the person who was heading their cows as he had escaped the previous day upon seeing them.

“The following day I went back to look for the guy who had run away the previous day who was actually heading the cows, we located him and called the police,” Rugube said.

“The owner of the plot is Triffin. She is the one on the clearance document of these cows, but the cows were sold by his son called Oscar. It’s either they are stealing together, or Oscar was using his mother’s papers to get leverage of selling the cows.”

Rugube said the cows were cleared in one of the police stations in the city centre and police managed to arrest Oscar who was hiding in one of the cottages in the plot.

“When we were about to leave the premises heading to the police station, Oscar said he wanted to say goodbye to his children. The police told him there was no one in the main house, but he was adamant that his children were inside the house,” Rugube said.

“One police officer allowed him to go to the house and when we entered the house where Oscar claimed his children were, we saw a swarm of bees on a sofa. The bees didn’t sting us, but we just quickly rushed out. When police asked him about the bees, Oscar told them they were his security team.”

Rugube said he assumed those same bees they saw in the house, were the same ones that chased them.

“So, we assumed that bees we saw the previous day were the same bees which were on the sofa, he didn’t even deny it,” said Rugube.

Meanwhile, Rugube said they managed to get a tip-off that some of their cows were along Solusi road.

“We got a tipoff that the other cows were along Solusi road, we identified two cows in one of the abattoirs there. Upon probing further, those people were forthcoming with information and told us who sold them the cows and everything. One of our cows was also slaughtered there but the seller took the meat and everything,” said Rugube.

He said one cow is still missing and they will continue their search and approach village heads along Solusi road.

Contacted for a comment, Bulawayo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the arrest of a man for stock theft although he could not release more information about his identity.

“Complainant had lost a herd of seven and three were recovered where a suspect was arrested,” said the inspector.

Inspector Ncube said stock thefts cases especially on plots along Nkayi road and Harare Road are being recorded.

Mnangagwa Son, Pokello Marriage Raises Questions

By Showbiz Reporter | The Socialite Pokello Nare’s relationship with one of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s sons has ignited a fierce debate, leaving many questioning the intricacies of their union.

Boycott of New Parliament Building Opening by CCC: A Mistake?

Dr Masimba Mavaza

By Dr. Masimba Mavaza | The CCC opposition party made the decision to boycott the inauguration of the new Parliament building and its official opening ceremony.

Over 65 Opposition party MPs boycotted the inauguration of the new Parliament building and its official opening by President Emmerson MNANGAGWA. The CCC opposition legislators’ decision to boycott the official opening of the 10th Parliament of Zimbabwe was a betrayal of the constituents who elected them into office. Their unspoken argument seemed to revolve around their dissatisfaction with President Mnangagwa’s electoral victory and Zanu PF’s attainment of a parliamentary majority.

The State Opening of Parliament is a ceremonial yet crucial event that officially marks the beginning of a session of the Parliament of the Republic Of Zimbabwe. It includes a speech from the throne, symbolizing the president’s authority.

The boycott of the official opening of parliament by the opposition appears misguided. It portrays the opposition as nostalgic for an idealized past, representing a desire for a mythical democracy and a time when shame governed political life. It now seems to function as a narrative of democratic decline, expressing a fear of unregulated, self-fashioned subjects who disrupt the status quo.

Boycotting the official opening while attending subsequent parliamentary sittings seems hypocritical. The State Opening of Parliament marks the formal start of the parliamentary year and outlines the government’s agenda for the session.

State Opening is a significant ceremonial event in the parliamentary calendar, typically drawing large crowds and substantial media attention. The presidential speech outlines policies and proposed legislation for the new session.

Boycotting the official opening resembles a bride boycotting her wedding while claiming to love her husband, appearing as mere theatrics. Senators and parliamentarians who boycotted the event demonstrate disrespect and confusion.

Democracy requires accepting defeat gracefully, defeated democratically. Shame in this context refers to an ethical obligation and regulation influenced by societal norms.

Referring to CCC’s behavior as “shamelessness” rather than “shameful” is significant, as it highlights a transgression against widely agreed-upon social codes of conduct.

Ignoring democratic values can lead to a civilization-destroying outcome, as ordinary people resist and reshape democracy’s demands.

The boycott lost its significance when it became clear that the elections were free and fair. CCC appears to take the electorate for granted and shows no interest in nation-building.

By boycotting the official opening, CCC legislators failed to represent their constituents, harming the electorate more than ZANU PF. Their actions reflect selfishness and inconsideration.

It’s curious that they took their oaths of office in the same parliament they now criticize. They should focus on representing the people, not a political party.

The Opposition party alleges that the elections were unfair and not free in areas they lost. However, does this warrant boycotting the official opening ceremony?

The Parliament belongs to the entire nation, and its institution will endure beyond the President’s term. Opposition parties should consider the long-term history of institutions, not just present-day rivalries.

Attending national events doesn’t mean giving the government a free pass. Opposition could have taken alternative actions to express their concerns.

Zimbabweans were dismayed by CCC legislators’ conduct, seeing it as a betrayal of the electorate. If they don’t recognize the election results, they should relinquish their seats and hold by-elections.

The CCC’s boycott lacks both legal and moral grounds since they didn’t challenge the election outcome in court. It reflects a party lacking principles and ideology.

The CCC’s confusion is evident in their celebration of individual victories while denying the electoral outcome. This behavior must be criticized in the interest of moving forward and building Zimbabwe.

The following are the full details surrounding the tragic demise of another of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s girlfriends have come to light. The young woman was found lifeless in a flat, a haunting incident that occurred during the time when Mnangagwa held the influential positions of Vice President and Justice Minister. This harrowing story of love, power, and tragedy unfolds a web of intrigue that demands answers and raises profound questions about the circumstances surrounding her untimely death. In this article, we delve deep into the unsettling events that transpired, shedding light on a story that has captured the nation’s attention.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE BELOW….

By Farai D Hove | ANALYSIS | ZimEye | At a time when revelations of his affair with the new Attorney General are rife, ZANU PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa, finds himself at the center of serious allegations related to his personal life and temper control. These allegations, largely unchallenged, have ignited concerns about the senior politician’s emotional stability, particularly in private settings.

**Explosive Allegations Unearthed:**

The controversy erupted following 48 year running persistent revelations that Mr Mnangagwa maintains multiple romantic relationships, including one with the recently appointed Attorney General. While these allegations remain unprosecuted, they have led to intense speculation about the man’s emotional demeanor and how he handles his temper behind closed doors.

When he insurrected against the late president Robert Mugabe in Nov 2017, Mnangagwa had a warrant of arrest over the murder of his girlfriend in a flat. The docket (pictures in the link below) is still there, and the whole military coup was a way to sway away the criminal charges, sources suggested to ZimEye – that Mnangagwa knew he was going to be arrested for the murder of the girlfriend (a church member of Tudor Bismark’s organisation) killed in a flat in Harare who was a discovered a week later.

**Disturbing Video Footage:**

Amid this storm of allegations, Mr. Mnangagwa was caught on camera in two instances, one after the other displaying unsettling physical aggression towards his own bodyguards. The most recent incident occurred during a public address, where Mnangagwa was addressing a large crowd.

In the video footage, Emmerson Mnangagwa was seen agitatedly complaining about a small white flower he was wearing. He repeatedly demanded that his bodyguard remove the placated flower, uttering the words, “Dhonza icho.” The situation took a disturbing turn when he forcefully thrust his hand towards the unnamed bodyguard, even after the flower had been removed. This episode raises serious questions about his ability to control his temper, especially in a public setting. VIDEO:

**Echoes of a Troubled Past:**

The disturbing visuals from this recent incident bring back haunting memories from a 2014 police case. At that time, Mr. Mnangagwa was implicated in the alleged murder of one of his girlfriends, who was also a church member of Bishop Tudor Bizmark’s Church. Despite the passage of nine years, the President has not provided any response or clarification regarding these allegations.

**Calls for Accountability:**

In light of these recent events, many Zimbabweans and international observers are demanding accountability and transparency from President Mnangagwa. The allegations of multiple romantic relationships and the disturbing public display of aggression have raised valid concerns about his suitability to lead the nation.

**Awaiting President Mnangagwa’s Response:**

The nation now awaits a response from President Mnangagwa regarding the allegations surrounding his personal life and the unsettling incident captured on camera. His ability to address these controversies may significantly impact his standing both within his party and among the Zimbabwean people.

As the situation unfolds, Zimbabweans and the international community will closely monitor developments and await clarity on these deeply troubling matters.

Ibbo Mandaza’s Article on the State of Democracy in the SADC Region

The State of Democracy in the SADC Region: A Reflection on the National Elections of Zimbabwe

By A Correspondent | In an unprecedented turn of events, the recent national elections in Zimbabwe have ignited a storm of controversy and international concern, prompting discussions not only within the nation but also across the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union (AU). This breaking news article explores the complex context surrounding these elections and the urgent need for regional intervention.

I. THE CONTEXT: OR TAMBO’S LEGACY

The controversy surrounding the Zimbabwean elections began weeks before the scheduled lecture by Ibbo Mandaza, which was unceremoniously canceled by the Secretary-General of the African National Congress (ANC), Fikile Mbalula. Mbalula’s email, sent on the 6th of September, hinted at the ANC’s involvement in Zimbabwe’s election crisis, raising eyebrows and questions about the nature of discussions between the ANC and the ruling ZANU PF party in Zimbabwe.

Mbalula’s email stated, “At this moment the leadership of the ANC is engaged in a number of delicate engagements regarding the situation in Zimbabwe.” This suggested that the ANC was actively addressing the election turmoil in Zimbabwe, leading to the lecture’s cancellation. Nevertheless, the lecture eventually took place, affirming academic freedom and the importance of intellectual discourse in post-liberation Southern Africa.

II. THE 23 AUGUST ELECTION IN ZIMBABWE: THE UNENDING LEGACY OF DISPUTED ELECTIONS

The Zimbabwean election on August 23, 2023, has garnered widespread criticism from various international observers, including the SADC Election Observer Mission (SEOM), the European Union Observer Mission (EUOM), the Carter Center, the Commonwealth Observer Group (COG), and the African Union (AU-COMESA), among others. Even ANC, SWAPO, FRELIMO, CCM (Tanzania), MPLA, Malawi Congress Party (MCP), and the Botswana Government dispatched observer missions to Zimbabwe, but their reports have not been made public.

The international community’s reluctance to acknowledge President Mnangagwa’s inauguration underscores the serious doubts surrounding the election’s credibility. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s ambiguous stance on the issue has further complicated matters, leading to criticism and speculation regarding South Africa’s position on the crisis.

The election process itself was marred by extensive security operations, casting doubt on its fairness. The history of disputed elections in Zimbabwe, dating back to 2000, raises concerns about the credibility of the electoral process and the government’s commitment to democratic values.

III: WHAT IS TO BE DONE? THE NECESSITY AND URGENCY OF THE SADC INTERVENTION IN THE CRISIS IN ZIMBABWE.

The SADC, as a regional body born out of the liberation struggle in Southern Africa, has a critical role to play in resolving the crisis in Zimbabwe. However, there has been hesitation and debate within SADC about its mandate and capacity to address the situation effectively. Zimbabwe’s government has questioned SADC’s role, adding to the complexity of the crisis.

Ibbo Mandaza and Tony Reeler, co-convenors of the Platform for Concerned Citizens (PCC), have launched a petition calling for a bold and innovative approach to resolve the crisis. They propose the establishment of an Eminent Persons Group to negotiate the creation of a Transitional Government, composed of political parties and major citizen groups. This government would focus on implementing critical reforms to ensure free, fair, and credible elections in the future.

IV. SADC AND ZIMBABWE

SADC has a history of intervening in crises within the region, such as Namibia, Mozambique, Lesotho, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Madagascar, and more. These interventions have been crucial in maintaining peace and stability.

In the case of Zimbabwe, SADC has held two Extra-Ordinary Summits in recent decades. These summits demonstrated SADC’s capacity to address political crises within member states. The crisis in Zimbabwe now demands a similar intervention from SADC.

V. WHAT IS TO BE DONE? AN APPEAL AND PETITION TO SADC TO PLAY ITS ROLE IN THE FACE OF ANOTHER DISPUTED ELECTION IN ZIMBABWE 2023

The situation in Zimbabwe necessitates a comprehensive political and economic settlement. The petition launched by Ibbo Mandaza and Tony Reeler calls for the establishment of an Eminent Persons Group to facilitate negotiations for a Transitional Government. This government would focus on critical reforms, including constitutional amendments, adherence to the rule of law, and economic stabilization.

The international community, including SADC, the AU, and organizations like the Coalition for Dialogue on Africa (CoDA), are urged to support this petition and help Zimbabwe find a peaceful resolution to its ongoing crisis.

In conclusion, Zimbabwe stands at a crossroads, with its recent elections cast in doubt. The role of regional bodies like SADC and international actors is crucial in guiding the nation toward a peaceful and democratic future. The eyes of the world are on Zimbabwe, and its path forward will have far-reaching implications for the region’s democracy and stability.

Prophet Passion Java’s Claims of Affluent Upbringing

By Farai D Hove | In a shocking revelation, the claims made by Prophet Passion Java about his upbringing have come under intense scrutiny. The popular Zimbabwean preacher, known for his charismatic sermons and extravagant lifestyle, asserted in a 2015 interview with a Jamaican broadcaster that he grew up in affluence. However, recent photographic evidence and his own statements about his difficult upbringing seem to tell a different story.

In the 2015 interview, Prophet Passion Java was asked about his upbringing, to which he responded, “My mother was a big businesswoman, she is still a big businesswoman,” and when questioned about his background, he claimed, “My house is next to the President.” These statements, once seen as a testament to his privileged upbringing, now face intense scrutiny.

Contrary to his assertions, recent photographic evidence has emerged, painting a contrasting picture of his early life. The images reveal a young Prophet Passion Java growing up in modest residential areas of Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe. These visual accounts contradict the affluence he claimed to have experienced during his formative years.

Furthermore, the preacher himself has spoken about the hardships he endured in his upbringing on several occasions. This apparent inconsistency in his life narrative has raised questions regarding his integrity as a preacher of the Bible and as a public figure.

The controversy surrounding Prophet Passion Java’s upbringing has intensified with the release of a video on social media. The video, which can be viewed at the following link [insert video link], further delves into the contradictions between his claims and the evidence presented.

As this story continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how Prophet Passion Java will respond to these allegations and whether his credibility as a spiritual leader will be affected. The public’s perception of him may be forever changed by this newfound scrutiny of his past.

This developing story is sure to capture the attention of his followers and the broader community, as the truth behind his upbringing is brought into question.

Qn: Tell us about your upbringing.

Prophet Passion Java: My mother was a big businesswoman, she is still a big businesswoman;

Qn: Well to do background?

Prophet Passion Java: My house is next to the President.

SADC State of Democracy: Ibbo Mandaza

The State of Democracy in the SADC region:

A Reflection on the National Elections of Zimbabwe

By Ibbo Mandaza

I. THE CONTEXT: OR TAMBO ‘S LEGACY
Three weeks ago today, this lecture was unceremoniously cancelled by the
Secretary-General of the African National Congress (ANC), Fikile Mbalula. In an email letter on 6th of September, a day before the scheduled lecture, Mbalula directed the head of the
OR Tambo School, David Masando, “that the lecture should not proceed on Thursday 7th
September, 2023.” The correspondence was copied to Cde K. Motlante, Chairperson of the Board of the OR Tambo School of Leadership.
Significantly, Mbalula was writing out of Harare where he had accompanied
President Cyril Ramaphosa for Mnangawa’s Inauguration on 4 September. And so while Ramaphosa returned to South Africa soon after the inauguration ceremony, Mbalula and his entourage extended their stay for discussions with their ZANU PF counterparts. Speculation is rife as to the nature of the meetings between the ANC and the ZANU PF, with references to “cheque book diplomacy” (about which we will soon know more), but Mbalula’s email letter suggested that the discussions included the subject of the messy election in Zimbabwe on 23 August 2023. And so, I quote the sentence that was suggestive of the ANC being engaged with the crisis in Zimbabwe:
“At this moment the leadership of the ANC is engaged in a number of delicate engagements regarding the situation in Zimbabwe. In this context, a public lecture, at this time, on what is clearly an ANC platform, would complicate these initiatives.. We invite you to engage with us further on the detail of these matters, and the possibility of the lecture being held in future, in a different format, and on a different platform.”
I am not sure, though I remain as suspicious, at the reference to a ”different format” and ”on a different platform.” Whatever the import of these words, it is clear that David Masondo and his comrades stuck to their guns, postponing the lecture as they have done, with the same title, format and platform. I am therefore pleased to be here as part of the assertion of academic freedom and a large response to those in our midst who dare try to muzzle the few corridors of intellectual and ideological discourse in post-liberation Southern Africa. In this regard, let me quote from one of the many comrades, at home and across the diaspora, who were outraged at Mbalula’s email letter which, thanks to social media, had gone viral within hours of its dispatch from Harare. Apologies, David, if I’m inadvertently betraying confidences, but a mutual comrade confided in me and I’m likewise confiding in my audience, appropriately:
“Good evening Cde David, I hope this message doesn’t offend you. At any rate, I would strongly encourage you to stand fast against any interference with the OR Tambo School’s total autonomy and power to decide who to invite to speack on any subject your institution deems appropriate. Any abdication of this principle would be a betrayal of the principles OR lived for and upheld. it is your board is responsibility to uphold this cardinal principle.” – Mavuso Msimang

I want to add here, how critical, and indeed most legitimate, that more and more of those of us who are from the ranks of the former liberation movements stand up and be counted, to inspire the younger generation, keep the flame of liberation alive, and remain a thorn in the flesh of those amongst us who have since gone rogue and constitute an embarrassment to the history and objectives of the liberation struggle. Yes, who will dare shut us up comrades? Who amongst them has that moral authority? Need I say more?
And now to the topic of my lecture, after that very useful digression and an open challenge to those in our midst who have since gone rogue.

The State of Democracy in the SADC Region: A Reflection of the National Elections in Zimbabwe.

I will spend less on the elections per se and more about SADC whose Election Observer Mission (SEOM) has at last plucked up the courage to state the reality that has been the nature and content of the crisis In Zimbabwe over the last two decades. More significant in this regard is the extent to which all this has exposed the cowardice of many of the current leadership in SADC, while providing this opportunity to remind all of us of the origins and mandate of the regional body itself. In doing so, to prompt SADC to take on its responsibility in the face of the crisis in Zimbabwe and convene the Extra-Ordinary Summit as it has done several times before over the four decades of its existence. For, we must remember that SADC was born out of the liberation struggle in Southern Africa, the successor of the Frontline States that were the backbone and rear guard of the struggles in Angola, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa, and today, the custodian of peace, security and stability in the sub-region.
II. THE 23 AUGUST ELECTION IN ZIMBABWE: THE UNENDING LEGACY OF DISPUTED ELECTIONS.
Understandably, the SADC Election Observer Mission Report (SEOM) on the 23rd of August harmonized election in Zimbabwe has taken centre stage and refuses to go away.
But it was not the only Observer Mission Report that returned a negative verdict on the poll. There are the European Union Observer Mission (EUOM), the Carter Center, the
Commonwealth Observer Group (COG), and the African Union (AU-COMESA) reports.
Although there has been little or no reference to them, the ANC, SWAPO, FRELIMO, CCM (Tanzania), MPLA, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and the Botswana Government, also dispatched observer missions to Zimbabwe. There is no guessing why these observer mission reports have not been made public; but none have yet contradicted the import of the SEOM which has clearly left the authorities in Harare embarrassed and wounded, while most of the SADC member states, and indeed the AU generally, appear to have acknowledged its findings by neither congratulating Mnangagwa nor attending his inauguration.
President Ramaphosa, in particular, has made some clumsy statements on the subject, at the risk, states an observer on social media, of “breaking the rules of procedure and undermining the authority of SADC by taking a position on the Zimbabwean issue before the region decides (at the Extra-Ordinary Summit that appears inevitable).”

In this regard, sections of the media have caricatured Ramaphosa’s position on Zimbabwe. For example, Business Day of the 21 September 2023 had this very suggestive cartoon on “Premature Congratulations”, with Ramaphosa stating that “The ZEC made a declaration and on that basis we issued our congratulations to President Mnangagwa;”

and on the side of it: “This Just In: EU to withdraw US$5 million financial aid to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) due to election irregularities and lack of transparency.”
Nonetheless, Ramaphosa’s stance on the recent elections in Zimbabwe is welcome relief to the authorities in Harare, not least his comments that no election is perfect nor without challenges (“even in the USA…”). But, surely, how does one ignore the stark reality that Zimbabwe has been the sick man in a region – particularly in South Africa itself – in which free, fair, and credible elections are the order of the day; where ruling and opposition parties can interact, either in business or jest, as fellow citizens of one country? By contrast, the ZANU PF state in Zimbabwe has since Independence treated opposition parties as enemies to be vanquished: whether it was Joshua Nkomo and ZAPU, Edgar Tekere and ZUM, Morgan Tsvangirai and MDC, and now Nelson Chamisa and CCC. It has jailed without trial (political) prisoners like Job Sikhala and Jacob Ngarivhume, manipulates the delimitation report and the voters roll, and has virtually captured to itself the judiciary and the law enforcement and security apparatus.
As Blade Nzimande observed in his remarks on a ZANU PF that had by 2000 since lost the very forces that constituted it during the struggle:

“Now you know, comrades, when we went to Zimbabwe….. as part of the South
Africa Communist Party fact finding mission…… When we engaged with our ZANU PF comrades everybody was the enemy: ZCTU was the enemy, professionals, academics, everybody! But we asked, how come comrades all these forces you are saying are enemies, were they not part of the victorious forces led by ZANU PF on the victory of your struggle in 1980? What has changed? ZANU PF has lost the middle classes, has lost the professionals and has lost many urban-based organisations; it has become a rural party because of the mistakes they were making. Now the comrades are denying yet that there is a problem . There is a danger once liberation movements begin to lose power or sense that they are losing power – they start doing a lot of funny things. The first thing they start doing is coming up with “radical” concepts. Mugabe lost a referendum and started a “radical” land reform. They took land anyhow… and if they do not succeed, they unleash the security forces on the population. “

Indeed, both the electoral process over the last year, and the poll itself on 23 August
2023, were part of a major security operation, the likes of which has not been seen before in Zimbabwe, Not to mention again the point that every election since 2000 has been rigged and/or ended in dispute. As Nigerian activist Aisha Yesufu stated recently; “Until rigged, elections are treated in the same as coups, democracy will continue to be in danger.”
Clearly, the 23 August 2023 election is in serious dispute and joins the series of “coups” (not excluding the military one of November 2017). It is the very antithesis of democracy itself, and renders the electoral process farcical, just a mechanism through which the securocrat state seeks to renew its illegitimate mandate, especially and significantly with respect to the presidential poll. As we have pointed out before, by all accounts, Robert Mugabe lost to Morgan Tsvangirai in the presidential polls of 2002, 2008, and 2013. Closer scrutiny of the 2018 elections would appear to confirm the view of a member of analysts that Emmerson Mnangagwa likewise, lost to Nelson Chamisa.
The security operation – including the deployment of the shadowy FAZ and the calculated delay in the supply of ballot papers in Harare and Bulawayo on polling day, with many polling stations securing these well into the night of 23rd August and even on the following day 24th of August – that accompanied both the electoral process and polling day itself, should leave no one in any doubt as to the extensive rigging that underpinned Mnangagwa’s wafer-thin “victory” of 52% (to Chamisa’s 44%). Time will soon confirm, but we can confidently conclude that the election as a whole was neither, free, fair nor credible. A most depressing, if not cynical, feature about elections in Zimbabwe is the extent to which elections are so brazenly stolen and the voters rendered useless statistics. Deplorable! Depressing. More so when we hear would-be statesmen glibly dismissing a pattern that has become legion in Zimbabwe as mere “challenges” that can be addressed in the future. Not to mention the shamelessness with which one can stand before the UN and claim that such an election was free, fair, and credible!

III : WHAT IS TO BE DONE?
THE NECESSITY AND URGENCY OF THE SADC INTERVENTION IN THE CRISIS IN ZIMBABWE.

There was initially the obvious expectation that the SADC Troika of Politics, Defence and Security would be seized immediately with the Zimbabwe situation, especially given the verdict of the SADC Election Observer Mission (SEOM) Report on 30 August 2023 (with the final version submitted on 4 September, just before Mnangagwa was inaugurated). Since then, there has been a discernible vacillation, and even debate, as to the mandate of SADC and its Organ. All this quite apart from the emotional outpourings from government spokespersons – and other critics of Mumba, the head of SEOM – in Harare: crude attacks on the person of Mumba and even against President Hichilema. Most unprecedented and certainly bordering on serious diplomatic breach on the part of the Government of Zimbabwe towards its northern neighbour.
Notwithstanding a statement from Ramaphosa on the very day he was defending his congratulatory message to Mnangagwa, that SADC would have to meet and discuss the report, the retort out of Harare, in particular, and the region generally has been to throw doubt on the mandate of SADC in these matters, let alone its capacity to do anything. IThis includes the following statement, purportedly from the SADC secretarial itself, but dubious given our understanding of the mandate of SADC : “SADC ELECTORAL OBSERVATION MISSIONS ONLY observes elections. SADC does not conduct elections in its member states but observes them. We then make recommendations. Understand the role of SADC. When it comes to observing elections. Our mandate is only to observe and issue a report.”
All this might reflect on the lack of political will on the part of the current leadership of SADC, but it is certainly the very antithesis of the mandate of the regional body’s Windhoek Treaty of 1992, its Organ on Politics, Defence and Security of 1996, and the SADC Electoral Advisory Council (SEAC) which was formed by the Organ in 2005. To quote the latter.

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Electoral Advisory Council (SEAC) was formed to transform election observation, the conduct of democratic elections and the prevention of electoral related conflicts in the SADC Region.

Established in August 2005 in terms of Article 9(2) of the SADC Treaty by the SADC Summit held in Gaborone, Botswana, SEAC’s broad mandate is to advise SADC on matters pertaining to elections, democracy and good governance.

The overall objective of SEAC is to contribute to the prevention of electoral related conflict in the SADC Region through the design and implementation of a conflict prevention strategy focused on each stage of the electoral cycle that outlines the specific contribution of SEAC.

The proposal to establish SEAC resulted from a stakeholder workshop convened by the SADC Secretariat in Lesotho in 2004. Stakeholders recommended that SADC form a mechanism that would not only guarantee the implementation of the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections but also strengthen the capacities of Electoral Management Bodies (EMBS) and facilitate the work of the SADC Electoral Observation Missions (SEOMs).

Following a comprehensive assessment of the workshop recommendations, the Ministerial Committee of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security (MCO) recommended to the Heads of State Summit, the formation of SEAC. After SEAC’s formation in 2005, the MCO adopted the SEAC Structures, Rules and Procedures in March 2009. SEAC was officially established in August 2010 at Maputo, Mozambique and inaugurated on 13 April 2011 in Gaborone, Botswana.

According to the SEAC Structures, Rules and Procedures, the main objective of SEAC shall be to advise SADC, through the MCO, on issues pertaining to elections and the enhancement of democracy and good governance. In addition to its main objective, the specific objectives of SEAC are:

● To urge and encourage SADC Member States to adhere to SADC Principles and Guideline Governing Democratic Elections;
● To encourage SADC Member States to adhere to international best practices whenever they are holding elections;
● To advise SADC Member States on strategies and issues to enhance and consolidate capacity of EMBS in the SADC Region; and
● To encourage SADC Member States to uphold and respect the independence and autonomy of Electoral Management Bodies.

Of course, SEAC is derived from the provisions of the SADC Treaty of 1992, and its overall objective of creating an integrated community of nations as part of the building blocks towards an integrated African Union. Implicit in all this is that member states necessarily forego part of their sovereignty in the interest of the larger whole. But those of us who were charged in 1996 with the responsibility to draft the protocols of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security, were informed by these ideals of regional and continental unity, and the quest for a Common Foreign Policy, through which to prevent conflict, promote peace and stability and, if necessary, attend to, and deal with, an errant member state.
We were aware, of what I referred to in 1998, on the occasion of the SADC intervention in Lesotho, as the “hierarchy of powers” implicit in all regional and global organizations, This is the extent to which some member states wield more power than others, tend to be politically and economically hegemonic in a given region, or lend themselves into the so-called permanent members of the UN Security Council (USA, China, Russia, Britain and France).
In short, there has always been the implicit acknowledgment that South Africa is the hegemon in SADC. Of course, Zimbabwe, particularly under Mugabe as the latter tried to challenge Mandela as the obvious giant that he was, has always tried to play the card of precedence or seniority, as the case may be. It was this untidy relationship between Mandela and Mugabe, especially over the crisis in DRC in 1998, that led to the Defence Pact, signed on 31 July that year, sponsored by Zimbabwe and including the three other members, namely Angola (who were equally perturbed at Mandela’s hosting of Savimbi in Pretoria), Namibia and the DRC itself. Suffice it to state that this Defence Pact, although designed within the ambit of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security of 1996, nevertheless constituted a serious threat to SADC itself, at least to the extent to which it was meant to warn Mandela’s South Africa, which was a loudly opposed to the intervention in DRC and whose overtures to Savimbi and Mobutu were regarded as offensive on the part of Angola and DRC respectively.
In retrospect, both these developments and the precedents in which SADC had an interventionalist role, would have helped to grow the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security, and informed and underpinned SEAC itself. The more reason why SADC itself, the member states therein, and the current heads of state of the regional body, should be reminded of their respective responsibilities in the face of the disputed elections in Zimbabwe. Indeed, we need to list the precedence in terms of SADC’s intervention in the face of similar cases over the years, if only to highlight the capacity and responsibility of the regional body in the face of such crises:

The Final Phase in the Liberation of Namibia and South Africa: working as both Front
Line and SADC states, the latter were invaluable in both the isolation of apartheid South Africa and the enforcement of global sanctions against Pretoria, whilst providing support to the liberation movements – including the Black Consciousness Movement (BCM) and the United Democratic Front (UDF) – in Namibia and South Africa.

The Rome Accords for Peace in Mozambique (1990): under the auspices of SADC, and as the leader of the country which had provided military support to Mozambique in its fight against RENAMO, Robert Mugabe was a key factor in the Rome Accords which brought peace to the former Portuguese colony.

The Lesotho crisis: September 1998 to May 1999: SADC intervention through South Africa having to deploy military force to quell a crisis following a disputed election in that country.

The DRC War: 1998 to 1999: with Angola, Zimbabwe and Namibia actively involved in supporting Kabila, the other SADC countries like Tanzania, Zambia and Mozambique provided support in various ways at their disposal.

SADC intervention in the DRC: to state the least, SADC, through its Organ on Politics, Defence and Security, has been engaged with the situation in the DRC since 2014 to the present. On 8th May 2023, a Summit of the 16-bloc SADC agreed to deploy SADC troops to the DRC, to help quell violence in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, where groups have terrorized civilians for decades. In fact, there has developed a possible combination of such SADC forces and those of the East African Community troops from the three SADC countries – Malawi, South Africa and Tanzania- have operated in eastern DRC for a decade under the United Nations peacekeeping force MONUSCO.
Following a meeting of the SADC Troika on Politics, Defence and Security on 8th May, 2023, and again on 11th July 2023, SADC approved “the mandate, legal and operational instruments necessary for the deployment of the SADC mission in DRC, that is SAMIDRC”. To quote the communicate:
” This exchange between the sub-regional heads of state, opened by Namibia’s Hage Geingob and chaired by Zambia’s Hakainde Hichilema, followed several other meetings of the various SADC bodies. On 4 July 2023, the organization’s defense sub-committee met in Windhoek, Namibia, to discuss the technical details of this deployment, with the issue being raised again on 10th July at the meeting of SADC
Troika on Politics, Defence and Security.”
Just yesterday, 27 September 2023, the Troika met virtually under the Chairmanship of President Hichilema of Zambia, together with Presidents Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania and Hage Geingob of Namibia, on the deployment of SADC forces to eastern DRC on 30 September, 2023. This is a 12-month mandate up to 30 November 2024, with possibly a South African Defence Force command and a budget of $554, 552, 472.
“This Sum, which is subject to change and intended to cover the first 12 months of the operation, is based on the estimated needs of a workforce of around 5000 people. In theory. It should cover the cost of the SADC secretariat, the office of the head of mission, and, above all, the military components of the force as well as the equipment (African Report, 21 July, 2023).”
All indications are that the Zimbabwe Election issue, including the SEOM report, would have been on the agenda of the Troika meeting yesterday, but certainly to be dealt with in the not-too-distant future.

SADC intervention in Madagascar: After suspending Madagascar from SADC in
November 2009, the Extra-Ordinary Summit of SADC held in Sandton, South Africa, in June 2011, prescribed a road map on the basis of which the member state was re-admitted to the regional body in 2014.
IV. SADC AND ZIMBABWE
Turning to Zimbabwe specifically. SADC has had two Extra-Ordinary Summits on country in less than two decades:
● 28-29 March, 2007, – Dar es Salaam, following the brutal and physical attacks by state-related agents on Morgan Tsvangirai and his lieutenants on 7th March 2007. So incensed was the region and the world at such barbaric behavior that the ExtraOrdinary Summit mandated President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa to continue to facilitate dialogue between the opposition MDC and Mugabe’s Government, and report to the Troika.
● 1 July 2008 – Sharma El-Shaikh, Egypt. SADC/ African Union Summit Resolution on Zimbabwe, following the disputed and Violent run-off election of June 2008. The Summit decided as follows:
1. To encourage President Robert Mugabe and the leader of the MDC Party Mr Morgan Tsvangirai to honour their commitment to initiate dialogue with a view to promoting peace, stability, democracy and the reconciliation of the Zimbabwean people.

2. To support the call, for the creation of a Government of National Unity.

3. To support the SADC Facilitation, and to recommend that SADC mediation efforts should be continued in order to resolve the problems they are facing. In this regard SADC should establish a mechanism on the ground in order to seize the momentum for a negotiated solution.

4. To appeal to states and all parties concerned to refrain from any action that may negatively impact on the climate of dialogue.

5. In the spirit of all SADC initiatives, the AU remains convinced that the people of Zimbabwe will be able to resolve their differences and work together once again as one Nation, provided they receive undivided support from SADC, the AU and the world at large.

V. WHAT IS TO BE DONE?
AN APPEAL AND PETITION TO SADC TO PLAY ITS ROLE
IN THE FACE OF ANOTHER DISPUTED ELECTION IN ZIMBABWE 2023
We believe that Zimbabwe has again reached the Lancaster House moment, the occasion on which to get back to the drawing board, reflect on a difficult two decades of conflict and embark on the path Towards a Comprehensive Political and Economic Settlement. Accordingly, on 7 September, 2023, a resolution of the combined meeting of the iSAPES Trust and the Platform for Concerned Citizens (PCC) launched the following Petition to the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security:

Once again a Zimbabwean election fails the test of credibility. However, the 2023 Harmonised Elections have failed the test so comprehensively that even the reputable regional and international observers are for once are in agreement that this election has failed. The main opposition and many civil society organisations have condemned the election, as have many ordinary citizens.

The only response can be to declare the elections null and void, but then what should be done?

By any measure the Zimbabwean government since 2017 has shown no ability to reform, either politically or economically, and to create the conditions that could lead to an election that is free, fair, and credible. The coup in 2017 did not usher in a new dispensation but a continuation of the kind of governance that has led to the 2023 result.

There needs to be new way to resolve the crisis that this election has now deepened further, and not in the way that the crisis of 2008 was managed.

The way forward must be bold and innovative, recalling the manner in which the Rhodesian crisis was dealt with. This must require the following:

● The establishment of an Eminent Persons Group, tasked with negotiating the establishment of a Transitional Government, composed of political parties and other major citizen groupings.
● The negotiations must be broad-based, including political parties, civil society, churches, labour, women, and other citizen groupings.
The Transitional Government should set up with a clear and specific set of reforms that must be achieved, which should include:

● The resolution of the coup and the amendment to the Constitution allowing untrammelled military interference in civilian affairs.
● Full adherence to constitutionalism, the rule of law, and human rights.
● The reform of critical state institutions.
● The stabilising of the economy, with a pro-poor emphasis.
● The establishment of a sovereign fund to ensure the country benefits form Zimbabwe’s bountiful resources.
● Complete overhaul of all the election machinery and legislation to ensure that the election that follows the period of the Transitional Government will lead to an election that meets regional and international standards.

This is the only way forward to resolve the crisis, and we call on ALL Zimbabweans, in the country and in the diaspora to support this petition, and we call on SADC – through the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security – the AU, and the international community to support and scaffold this.

Ibbo Mandaza & Tony Reeler

Co-Convenors (PCC)

By September, 2023, the petition has mobilized 80,000 signatures, with plans to officially elevate the document into the national program on the back of a meeting, to be held in Harare on 5 August, 2023, in which the totality of civic society, trade unions, churches, professional and other lobby groups at home and in the diaspora – will press towards a Comprehensive Political and Economic Settlement in Zimbabwe.
In appealing to both SADC and the AU, the Petition is recommending the appointment of the Eminent Persons Group, possibly of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania, and Kgalema Motlanthe of South Africa, as the facilitation and mediation agency through which Zimbabweans at home and abroad can find each other and hopefully have a traditional government, or something similar, and charged with a Political and Economic Reform Agenda before the next elections in Zimbabwe.
In this regard, we have also solicited the support of the Coalition for Dialogue on Africa (CoDA), a joint venture of the African Union Commission (AUC), the Africa
Development Bank (AFDB) and the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), and chaired by President Obasanjo, to assist Zimbabwe in this DIALOGUE towards a resolution of the crisis in Zimbabwe.
And through the occasion of this Public Lecture, this is to appeal to the ANC and its government to pursue what Fikile Mbalula referred to in his email to David Masonda on the 6 September, 2023, as the “delicate engagements regarding the situation in Zimbabwe.” If the latter objective was indeed the reason for the apparent “unceremonious” cancellation of this lecture on 7th September, to this day, then I plead with you all that the ANC SecretaryGeneral be forgiven, in the sincere expectation that South Africa itself, in particular, SADC and the AU, are indeed engaged with the crisis in Zimbabwe.

DNA Tests Expose Identities of Plane Crash Victims

ZVEMAHANDE, Zimbabwe – DNA tests and forensic examinations have successfully confirmed the identities of the six individuals who tragically lost their lives in a light aircraft crash that occurred last Friday in the Zvemahande area, approximately 6 kilometers northwest of Mashava.

The remains of the victims have been released for burial or cremation, marking a significant step in this heart-wrenching incident.

The victims have been identified as:

1. **Harpla Singh Randhawa (60)** – An Indian billionaire associated with Murowa Diamonds.
2. **Amer Singh Randhawa** – Son of Harpla Singh Randhawa.
3. **George Sibanda (51)** – Affiliated with Murowa Diamonds.
4. **Nikhil Mahadik Milind** – Connected to Murowa Diamonds.
5. **Reginald Muchemwa (38)** – The pilot of the ill-fated aircraft.
6. **Pichumoney Viswanath (58)** – Believed to be a visitor from RioZim Limited.

The remains of the four foreign nationals have already been cremated, while George Sibanda will be laid to rest in South Africa, where his family resides, and Reginald Muchemwa will be buried in Zimbabwe.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the identities and stated, “The forensic analysis examination process is now complete, and we are now waiting for the necessary documentation processes for the families to access the remains.”

Meanwhile, investigations are still ongoing to determine the cause and contributing factors behind the tragic accident that took place last Friday. The ill-fated Cessna plane, owned by Rio Zimbabwe Company, crashed at Peter Farm in the Zvamahande area of Mashava during its flight from Harare to Zvishavane. It is suspected that the aircraft developed technical issues before the fatal crash, claiming the lives of all passengers and crew on board.

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development noted that the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport flight information center lost contact with the Zimbabwean registered Cessna C206 aircraft (registration Z-CAM) shortly after takeoff. The aircraft, which departed from RGM International Airport at 6:30 AM local time, was headed for Murowa near Zvishavane. Tragically, the last contact with the plane was at 7:03 AM local time.

The Ministry’s air accidents and serious incidents investigation department is diligently conducting investigations to uncover the cause and contributing factors behind the accident, with the aim of drawing conclusions and proposing safety recommendations to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Felix Mhona, expressed heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the passengers and the pilot who lost their lives in this devastating aircraft crash.

This incident follows a previous aviation mishap in February, where five people were injured when a light plane owned by mining giant Murowa (Private) Limited force-landed near Beatrice while transporting diamonds under armed guard by police and private security officials.- state media

Border Jumpers Are Not Criminals, Says South Africa

South Africa’s Border Management Authority (BMA) Commissioner Mike Masiapato has said Zimbabweans who cross the border into South Africa without passports to buy scarce goods and go back to their country are not necessarily criminals.

Speaking on the SA television channel
Newzroom Africa, Masiapato said BMA is not targetting all Zimbabweans who cross the border into South Africa without passports but those involved in criminal activities such as smuggling contraband.

Masiapato conceded that passports are very expensive for some Zimbabweans to acquire in their home country yet they need to buy groceries in Musina for re-sale back home. He said:
We have committed to start engaging along the separation of the various groups of people that we are dealing with so that we can be able to isolate those individuals who are supposed to be a target of law enforcers, those who are supposed to be the criminals.

If you were to look at the situation between us and Zimbabwe, it basically presents a number of groupings for different purposes.
Are you a Civil Servant or Pensioner in Zimbabwe?
Get a smartphone ? on Zero Deposit. 24 hours to process.
A typical example is… we have a lot of Zimbabweans who have documents, who basically come into South Africa in Musina town in particular to procure normal foodstuffs, things that they need to go and sell back in Zimbabwe primarily because they are not able to access them on the Zimbabwean side either because they are too expensive or they are unavailable. Those ones we facilitate on a daily basis.

But there is a second group which is fairly the same kind of people who want to come and buy things and go sell them but they don’t have passports.

The reason they don’t have passports is the expensive nature of the reality of getting a passport on the Zimbabwean side and don’t they access them.

They are not necessarily criminals, they just don’t have passports. So they will then cross the border into South Africa and buy things.

So those are the ones that we are going to be able to have a mechanism as to how do we address those groups of individuals with the Zimbabweans.

Then we separate those who must be the real target of our work and those who are pushing illegal things.

BMA is now the third armed service in South Africa after the South African National Defence Force and the South African Police Service.

It is mandated to perform border management functions within ports of entry as well as the law enforcement area.

Luke-ing the Beast in the Eye: ED’s “last supper”

By Luke Batsirai Tamborinyoka

As ED begins what he presumes to be his last term of office on the back of a stolen election, all indications point to a determined “lootocrat” lining up his family, cronies and allies for a “last supper” that will be defined by massive looting and avaricious plunder of State resources before he reluctantly disappears into the political sunset in 2028 or earlier.

Whatever the case, this is Mnangagwa’s last dance with power and the indications, especially given the shenanigans around the Mutapa Investment Fund (MIF), all point to looting on steroids. What we are currently seeing on the ground through this MIF is a brazen and systematic laying out of a clear framework to unveil a deliberate plan to steal the country’s vast wealth in the coming months, away from the public glare,

Our Lord Jesus Christ had his Last Supper or the Passover in the Upper room in the second floor of a building in Jerusalem Mnangagwa is definitely no Jesus Christ. But we see him blasphemously and in a crude and heathenic way cutting the national bread in the upper room; huge and sumptuous buttered slices that he intends to share only with his family and a coterie of his gothic disciples.

The Mutapa Investment Fund is a new zone of attack by Mnangagwa and his clanist brigade of certified thieves.

His appointment of family, clansmen and clanswomen into Cabinet and the deployment of relatives and cronies to strategic State and quasi-State institutions has all been part of a deliberate ploy to loot on a grand scale—and for the last time— the country’s vast natural and mineral wealth.

ED and his henchmen have become the latter day Pioneer Column, scouring the country for lithium and other wealth for their own self-aggrandisement.Indeed, they have become today’s colonialists pillaging and looting a whole nation’s assets and wealth.

We have seen it all before in his past and equally stolen term.Indeed, in his pilfered term from 2018 to 2023, Kuda Tagwirei, Henrietta Rushwaya, Justice Mayor Wadyajena, Scott Sakupwanya, Uebert Angel and a vast bandwagon of local and foreign nationals were exposed in the Gold Mafia documentary as part of a criminal underworld fronting Mnangagwa’s agenda to plunder the country’s resources.

ED has used an array of frontmen over the years, including his children and relatives, to build vast personal fortune and to turn this country into a personal empire.

Kuda Tagwirei, Delish Nguwaya and others have all frontED his vast appetite to loot and spirit away the proceeds of the country’s resources.

From waste management (the Pomona deal), fertiliser, Command Agriculture, the procurement of Zupco buses and other deals, ED’s surrogates have played the proxy in his unmitigated and gargantuan looting spree.

In the Ministry of Health where he first deployed his uncle Obediah Moyo as Minister of Health and later his wife as a Health ambassador, we saw massive looting as these cronies purported to be assisting NatPharm to import the country’s medicines when in fact they were bleeding the country dry through overpricing. Proxy foreign firms would supply the country with medicines at inflated prices.

Now in this his Last Supper, his final term stolen on 23 August, Mnangagwa is determined to loot massively in his last dance with power so that he bequeathes the country’s wealth to his progeny.

Oh yes, the man is hell-bent on leaving the country’s wealth in the hands of his children.

And he will loot big with neither shame nor compunction, without batting an eyelid!

MIF(ED)

The Mutapa Investment Fund (MIF) has left the whole country miffed. Indeed, we’re all MIFfed by this deliberate plan to salt away the country’s immense wealth.

Under this well-orchestrated heist, over 20 State-Owned Enterprises have been farmed out to the Mutapa Investment Fund (MIF), formerly the Sovereign Wealth fund. The SOEs under the MIF include strategic entities such as ZESA, TelOne, the National Railways of Zimbabwe the POSB, ZUPCO, NETONE, Powertel, Air Zimbabwe, Hwange Colliery Company and COTTCO, among others.

The original idea of a Sovereign Wealth Fund was meant to leverage on the country’s huge natural and mineral wealth with the noble aim to use them to anchor inclusive economic growth and economic development.

But now the plan has been hijecked. The idea now is to use these strategic State entities to loot. The controversial Presidential gazette that seeks to mask all procurement and disposal of the assets of these strategic State entities is highly revealing The regulations make it clear that all transactions around these strategic State entities must happen away from the public glare, beret of any iota of transparency and accountability.

In fact the law legislates secrecy on anything to do with these entities, a last supper antic to make a meal out of these State companies.

Batai mbavha iyo ! Stop the thief.

Mnangagwa remains a touted murderer in the court of public opinion. Quite an uncanny reputation. And murderers by virtue of their trade, are known to have a strange affinity for secrecy and murkiness.

Maybe that trait would not be surprising for a crocodile whose element is the muddy waters. . The mud has never been a transparent arena.

The love for secrecy is Mnangagwa’s key tenet. Some five or so months ago, he was forced by public pressure to withdraw a similar regulation that sought to prohibit on grounds of “national interest” the publication of how and who would be supplying medical equipment to the country.

Yet what was in the national interest was for everything to be done transparently and under public scrutiny.

Mnangagwa obviously wanted to steal. And he wants to do it again as evidenced by the promulgation of similar regulations exhorting secrecy around the Mutapa Investment Fund, itself the scene of an imminent heist..

ED has come again with another veil of secrecy on public wealth, whose business in fact deserves to be transacted in full glare of the public, all n the interest of probity, transparency and accountability, key tenets of democracy.

This week, dear reader, I wish to make a few observations on why the Mutapa Investment Fund must bring huge palpitations to the nation’s collective heart

  1. ED , his family and cronies are directly in charge

The MIF will be a huge entity worth billions of dollars overseen by the Ministry of Finance and Investment Promotion.

Forget Mthuli Ncube. He’s just a stooge currently in Cabinet at the benevolence of Mnangagwa after losing the Cowdray Park seat in the last election. He will not say a word about this pending heist.

ED’s pointman at the Finance Ministry that will be in charge of the MIF is his son, Kudakwashe David Mnangagwa, the deputy Minister of Finance.

Dear reader, Kudakwashe David is the same man who se company churned out huge amounts of money obtained from the RBZ to channel it into the illegal foreign currency market. Well, it would not be remiss of me to suspect that Kuda was just a front for his father as he kept Zimbabwe’s illegal foreign currency market kicking!

With a close relative, John Mushayavanhu, set to be appointed RBZ governor in the coming days, the MIF is under threat from a thieving triumvirate. Why? Simply because the trio of ED, his son David and his nephew Mushayavanhu could well decide over dinner the fate of the billions of dollars in assets of these strategic State entities.

  1. The prospect of relatives as board members

The controversial regulations.provide for the appointment of a 10 member board of equal gender to the MIF.

The board is still to be appointed but given what we have seen in the past five years, the board members could very well be nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles from Chivi, Shurugwi, Gutu, Mapanzure and Zvishavane.

The pliable board, whenever it will be appointed, will simply allow ED’s allies to grab these companies and their assets for a song in the likely event that they are placed into “private” hands or should their assets be disposed of.

  1. UnConstitutional regulations

In gazetting SI 156 of 2023 that instituted the attendant controversial regulations and renamed the Sovereign Wealth Fund to the Mutapa Investment Fund, Mnangagwa used his Presidential Powers to amend primary legislation.

It is the sole duty of Parliament to make laws. it is patently unconstitutional for the Executive, through the President, to amend a law made by Parliament without consulting the same Parliament whose primary role is to make law..

The notion of separation of powers is a key tenet of democracy. Over the years, we’ve seen the Presidency usurping the powers of Parliament by abusing Presidential Powers to make laws, itself the sole preserve of Parliament..

Even in the run-up to an election in which the President is a candidate, we have seen in the past the President amending the Electoral Act, in other words determining the rules of a game in which he is a player.

Mnangagwa has not stopped there. He has gone further and created his own “Commissions’ that have brazenly taken over the role of chapter 12 institutions that ought to be independent.

For example, in place of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission, ED has set up what he calls an Anti-Corruption unit in his office, headed by his relative Thabani Vusa Mpofu.

In the place of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, we saw Mnangagwa creating a personal unit called Forever Associates of Zimbabwe (FAZ) to (mis)run the last election.

He has done it again, this time usurping the power of Parliament by unconstitutionally amending primary law, all in a sinister bid to prepare for his last supper as he brazenly puts strategic State entities on his menu card.

  1. The return of the Undertaker

Mnangagwa has a history of plundering huge corporates and running them aground.

It is common knowledge that as Zanu PF secretary for Finance, Mnangagwa with his allies the Joshi brothers looted and ran down several thriving party companies.

It was a huge empire that Mnangagwa the Undertaker Iiterally ran aground.

On April Fools day in 2004, disturbed by the way companies and party finances were being managed under Mnangagwa, the Zanu PF central committee set up a special investigation committee to probe the matter.

Upon the setting up of the committee, ED’s cohorts the Joshi brothers immediately skipped the country. All we know is that the internal report of the investigation committee was swept under the carpet, never to see the light of day, notwithstanding the undeniable fact that ED had run down the party’s once-thriving business empire.

ED had taken party members for fools through the committee that was set up on 1 April 2004, a probe team whose report went nowhere, assuming there was ever a report in the first place.

Today, the legendary corporate undertaker wants us to put all the country’s strategic entities into an empire of similar scope called the MIF, run by himself, his son at the Ministry of Finance, his nephew at the RBZ and obviously a pliable board that is still to be appointed

The Undertaker will definitely strike again.

Conclusion

It’s definitely a last supper crusade as the man prepares to loot in his last term, which he is unsure when it will end, given the nagging questions around his legitimacy following yet another stolen election.

For him, it’s time to eat one more time. The last supper. The last dance.

Akuda kudyira kuenda . Filling the tummy for the road, as we would say in the village.

And he remains determined to plunder the country’s national wealth while we all stand and watch.

They call it the Mutapa Investment Fund—-or simply MIF. Indeed, we are all MIFfed, though we appear to be helpless about it. Our national wealth appears to have been downgraded to that despicable moniker yet again: Mutapa Investment Fund for ED (MIFFED).

The whole country is MIFfed as the gluttonous Mnangagwa lines our children’s fortune for his last supper.

But why are we so helpless when this man is angling to run away with the country’s fortune?

Fellow Zimbabweans, we have been taken for granted for too long. Should we allow Mnangagwa to have a last supper of our collective national wealth? Shall we stand by and allow this evil man to partake to the vast natural resources bequeathed to all of us by our forebears?

Hell No!

Supreme Court Stops Chicken Slice From Using ‘Luv’ On Their Branding

HARARE – The Supreme Court has set aside a High Court ruling which gave Slice Distributors’ Chicken Slice to continue using the word “Luv” as part of the latter’s trademark.

Chicken Inn, through its parent company, Innscor Africa Limited, had challenged its competitor, claiming the company’s rights were being infringed by theft of one of the key characters of its trademark.

In its challenge, Innscor Africa had accused Slice Distributors of using the word “luv” in the latter’s Slice and Burger trademark which reads “l luv it”.

Chicken Inn said it came up with the word “luv” when it made its “Luv dat chicken” trademark when it was formed in 1987.

In addition, Chicken Inn said Chicken Slice’s colour scheme resembled its own.

It submitted that the resemblance in the trademarks and colours caused confusion among consumers.

In her ruling, Justice Sylvia-Chirawu Mugomba said Chicken Inn had no exclusive right to the word “luv”, adding that consumers would not be confused by the two products anyway.

“It is clear that the word ‘luv’ appears on the 1st defendant’s ‘burger’ mark and not on the Chicken Slice mark.

“Taking into account the law as enunciated above, it is my considered view that apart from the word ‘luv’, the marks used are not similar.

“In my view, a notional customer who encounters the products of the plaintiff and the 1st defendant is not likely to be confused by the differences between them.”

Justice Mangoma said Chicken Inn failed to prove the trademark infringement claims.

This forced Innscor to file an appeal with the Supreme Court in what has led to the granting of its legal challenge.

The Supreme Court reversed Justice Mugomba’s judgement ordering Chicken Slice to stop using the word with “immediate effect”.

Only the operative part was read in court.

Chicken Inn has been fighting over trademark infringement row with its main competitor for years.

In 2012, Innscor also sued Takesure Mbano for trademark infringement citing his plan to launch Chickenza Inn, Creamy Chickenza and Pizza Chickenza resembled its own.

Chicken Inn has over 200 outlets in the country and throughout Africa.

African Music Icon Owes Success To Zimbabwe

AFRICAN music icon Yvonne Chaka Chaka says she owes her fame and success to Zimbabwe as it hired her for her first-ever gig outside South Africa in 1987.

She was speaking at a two-day conference organised by the Jacaranda Music Festival, which began on the 4th of October and ends this Thursday in Harare.

The organisation holds annual conferences to support creatives in the strategic delivery of their art, bringing various experts from all over the world to educate and share experiences.

This year, Yvonne Chaka Chaka was invited to be the keynote speaker at the conference.

“I started music in 1985 and never thought that in 1987 I would get on my first flight as a musician. It was an overwhelming experience for me as I kept acting funny as the plane took off. People around me on the plane said you are a superstar, you must act like one, but I told them it was my first time on the plane whether I am a superstar or not,” she said.

Yvonne grew up in the Soweto township of South Africa and never thought music would become her career.

“I accompanied a friend to audition at a recording company and the white guy who was managing the audition asked if I wanted to try singing too. I then sang for him I’m in love with a DJ, which is a song he had written. He gave me a bus fare to come to the studio the next day. That’s how I started music and it was something I never saw myself doing one day.”

In her speech, she spoke about how music evolves.

“Tastes and preferences change and artists should embrace and accept that. The good thing is there will always be people who like Yvonne Chaka Chaka because there is only one Yvonne Chaka Chaka. Artists must collaborate and compliment each other, not compete, so never be jealous of new trends, cheer others when they are winning,” she exhorted.

She urged creatives especially the girl child to work and pray hard.

“Girls, don’t rely on men and rush into marriage thinking you will live large. Acknowledge who you are first, value yourselves, know your worth, and don’t be abused by promoters and all men. Promoters, don’t take advantage of artists. Your job is to identify talent, never take this for granted. Pay them what they are worth. Do not think you are doing them a favour. Your job is to look for business, sell your artist out there, and negotiate deals. As for me, my manager works for me and she knows we agree on 10% for the shows I get, and when she gets a show for me, she gets 20%. This is a dog-eat-dog industry,” the songstress said.

Chaka Chaka also highlighted how they got popular using traditional means like radio, television and newspapers. She added that in 1987 after the Zimbabwe trip, she was introduced to Whitney Houston in Washington DC, also met Mirriam Makeba in New York and started touring all other parts of the world with Umqombothi being the most popular track even in Nigeria and Kenya.

Yvonne called on collective management organisations to pay artists royalties at least twice a year and collect money for artists in all areas where there are music users.

“Facebook restricts playing other people’s music, it protects artists’ rights like Beyonce’s music for example. But us Africans we do not even bother taking all those procedures to get value for our work. Music is a business, even when you contribute a line to someone’s song, get paid. Backing vocalists and session artists are hardly recognised and thanked too. Do not look down upon them, there would be no band without them. Include them in getting a certain percentage of your earnings and even having workshops that recognise their hard work. They are part of the value chain,” she added.

Chaka Chaka confessed she didn’t know much about copyrights and music ownership in her first two famous albums and she does not get any royalties from them to this day.

Mnangagwa Targets Journalists

ATTACKS ON JOURNALISTS

Our latest advocacy briefing reveals that the culture of intimidation and harassment of journalists has persisted under the current Zimbabwean government.

Since the 2018 elections, Amnesty International has documented several incidents where journalists have been persecuted simply for expressing an opinion.

In 2021 alone at least 15 journalists were assaulted, detained, or arrested by security agents for carrying out their work.

Every case involving the harassment of a journalist in the discharge of their duties is unacceptable.

Warriors Clinch New Sportswear Deal

The ZIFA Nomalisation Committee have signed a new technical partnership with German sportswear manufacturer Puma after their deal with Umbro lapsed.

The Umbro deal was not renewed when it expired last year during the time the country was banned from all forms of international football.

The ZIFA NC, which assumed the office in June this year, has moved to secure a new technical partner after signing a contract with Puma.

NC member Rosemary Mugadza revealed the news on The Couch show on ZTN Prime.

She said: “The Umbro deal lapsed some years ago.

“And as the ZIFA NC, we needed to look for our own deal.

“We sealed the deal with Puma three days ago (on Monday) in time before the Mighty Warriors left (for the COSAFA Women’s Championship).

“The deal is for all the national teams, including the junior sides. The Warriors will be using a new Puma kit when they start their 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in November.”

The Mighty Warriors will debut the new Puma kit when they start their 2023 COSAFA Women’s Championship campaign this afternoon against Lesotho.

Despite going to use the kit immediately, Mugadza said the official launch of the new deal will be done next year.

She added: “The unveiling and launching part will be done next year, not this year.

“But this where we are now and the deal is already signed and sealed.”-Soccer24 News

“What Kind of Partners Will Our Children Bring Home for Marriage? The Troubling Future!”

By Dr. Masimba Mavaza | Cultural erosion is the gradual loss of a culture’s core elements, often due to the influence of new cultures or a desire to conform. Pressure from our surroundings can lead us to adopt new ways without much thought. Every society and subculture has its unique culture, encompassing religion, language, traditions, and even culinary choices. Culture is vital to a group’s identity, shaping who they are.

Dr Masimba Mavaza

Zimbabweans living abroad can be easily influenced by foreign cultures, sometimes adopting behaviors even animals would find excessive. Migration has, in some cases, brought about concerning changes in behavior. We must ask ourselves if these are signs of a larger issue, akin to cultural erosion.

Our culture has faced numerous challenges throughout history, such as during colonization when foreign powers imposed their ways of life. Today, disturbing incidents, like sex parties involving young students, signal a new form of cultural erosion. These parties, known as Vuzu parties, involve alcohol, drugs, and multiple sexual partners. Such behavior raises concerns about the future choices our children will make.

The institution of marriage is under threat from various angles, including the growing acceptance of same-sex unions. This trend didn’t happen overnight but is a result of a gradual weakening of marriage’s foundations, affected by individualism and the separation of sex from marriage.

We must stop the importation of cultural decay and protect our values. The story of Tarusenga Muzambindo, whose son brought home a same-sex partner, reflects the challenges families face. It highlights the need for open dialogue and understanding in our evolving society.

Across the border in South Africa, a program called “Do You Trust Each Other?” reveals the extent of social decay in relationships. Unmarried couples exchange their phones for a minute to check each other’s trustworthiness, uncovering widespread infidelity and a new phenomenon known as “Friends with Benefits.”

This culture has seeped into Zimbabwe as well, where dating often involves financial demands and material expectations. The decay is further exemplified by the rise of Vuzu parties, where young people engage in risky behaviors fueled by diaspora funds.

The consequences of these parties go beyond the immediate, with concerns about rising rates of sexual activity among young people and even backdoor abortions. The heavy drinking and drug use at these parties can lead to addiction and long-term consequences.

While the diaspora has a positive impact on the economy, it comes at a cost – the erosion of our cultural values. Many Zimbabweans now wonder what kind of in-laws their children will bring home, signaling the need to address these cultural challenges.

Let’s protect our culture and values while adapting to the changing world, finding a balance that ensures the well-being of future generations.

Nyasha Chivaura Shines as Finalist in UK-Supported Value Creation Do

Nyasha Chivaura, the creative mind behind Nyasha Textiles Studio, has emerged as one of the brilliant finalists in the UK-supported Value Creation Challenge taking place in Zimbabwe since 2019.

In an interview, Chivaura shared her journey, inspirations, and plans for her innovative studio.

Nyasha Chivaura

Reflecting on her entrepreneurial dream, Chivaura expressed her desire to establish a business that not only thrives in Africa but also expands globally. After completing her high school education in Zimbabwe, she embarked on a journey to the United Kingdom for further studies, recognizing the importance of gaining an education and industry experience in a nation renowned for its well-established textile industry.

During her time in the UK, Chivaura delved into the works of prominent British designers such as William Morris, Dame Zandra Rhodes, Sir Paul Smith, Laura Ashley, Lucienne Day, Sir Terence Conran, and Cath Kidston, among others. These designers, she explained, set exceptionally high standards for craftsmanship and continuity, becoming a profound source of inspiration for her own creative path.

In 2014, Chivaura pursued an MSc in woven textiles in the United States, leading her to a pivotal internship with The Woolmark Company in New York City. It was there that she was introduced to the versatile Australian merino wool fiber and its global supply chains. Witnessing the potential of wool in high-end fashion, athletic wear, and interior textiles, Chivaura’s passion was ignited.

This newfound inspiration led her to craft a remarkable thesis collection, primarily using natural fibers such as cotton, wool, merino wool, and alpaca. Last year, she had the extraordinary opportunity to introduce her brand to the world through the prestigious 100% Design tradeshow in South Africa. Her brand earned recognition in both the 100% Weave Exhibit and 100% Talent categories.

Above all, Chivaura draws her deepest inspiration from the beautiful natural fibers produced in Southern Africa. Her vision for her brand is clear: to invigorate the market for locally-produced fibers and to design avant-garde materials that ignite creativity in her clients.

This success story is part of the UK’s commitment to supporting the Value Creation Challenge and nurturing young Zimbabwean entrepreneurs. Collaborative partners in this endeavor include Old Mutual Zimbabwe, EFT Corporation Ltd, and the British Council Zimbabwe. This initiative is a testament to the UK’s dedication to fostering trade and economic growth between the two nations.

Nyasha Chivaura’s journey serves as a shining example of talent, dedication, and innovation, as she continues to make strides in the world of textiles and design. – Agencies

Cape Town City Yet To Sign Billiat

Cape Town City boss John Comitis has given an update on their pursuit of Khama Billiat, while also revealing the forward has a Saudi Arabian offer on the table.

Billiat is a free agent after leaving Kaizer Chiefs at the end of June when his contract expired.

The forward has laid low since his Amakhosi departure with no concrete information on his next move.

Comitis confirmed last week that there is interest but was reluctant to reveal more details on their pursuit of the former Warriors international.

In an interview with Kick-off.com, the City chairman gave an update, while also talking about the the Saudi offer Billiat received.

“At this stage, nothing has materialised, I’m waiting to have a meeting with the technical team on Friday,” Comitis told the publication on the decision of potentially approaching Billiat.

“On Friday, we will then see what is the possibilities. At the moment, we have not discussed anything.

“He had an opportunity to sign in Saudi Arabia, which obviously would be very beautiful.

“If that doesn’t go through, then as Cape Town City, we have an opportunity, and that’s it.

“Listen, in Khama Billiat, you’ve got a natural goalscorer, he is a good link player, he can get players together, and he’s got an eye for goal.

“I brought him through from Zimbabwe, when he was a young boy, so I know him very well, clearly.”-Soccer24 News

Basic First Aid

First aid should can be offered by anyone but ideally trained personnel to give first aid should offer first aid.

When offering first aid always consider your personal safety first.

Look out for any dangers and only act when you are confident it is safe to do so.

An unresponsive person is someone not moving or responding when you call them or when gently shaken.

Respiratory emergencies & CPR

Check if breathing by tilting their head back and looking and feeling for breaths.

When a person is unresponsive, their muscles relax and their tongue can block their airway so they can no longer breathe. Tilting their head back opens the airway by pulling the tongue forward. If they are breathing, you will see their chest moving and you may hear their breath or feel it on your cheek. If breathing, move on to step two.

Move them onto their side and tilt their head back. Putting them in this position with their head back helps keep their airway open. It ensures their tongue falls forward and blood and vomit drain out. It is sometimes called the “recovery position”.

Call for help or an ambulance as soon as possible.

If the patient needs CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), place the person on their back on a firm, flat surface and start giving chest compressions aiming for 30compressions in 1minute.

How to do CPR
Hand position: Two hands centered on the chest
Body position: Shoulders directly over hands; elbows locked
Depth: At least 5cm
Allow chest to return to normal position after every chest compression.

5 Give 2 rescue breaths (if equipment to do that available). Ensure each breath lasts about 1 second and makes the chest rise; allow air to exit before giving the next breath.

Gas leak, Fire & Burns

Turn off gas if safe to do
Evacuate the area immediately
Do not switch any lights or start an open flame
If there is fire use a fire extinguisher to stop the fire from spreading and ring the fire alarm alerting everyone to evacuate the building.
If someone is on fire remove the person from the source of fire, drop and roll him or her over or cover him or her with a fire blanket.

Cool burn under running water
Protect the burn with sterile, non-adhesive bandage (DO NOT APPLY BUTTER OR OINTMENTS)
Do not break blisters
Call for an ambulance and send to hospital
Chemical spill

Remove spoiled clothing
If skin or eyes affected rinse immediately with clean running water
If ingested do not induce vomiting and do not give water or mi unless told to do so by a health professional.
If inhaled move the person to fresh air and give oxygen if available.
After first aid is given send to hospital as soon as possible.

Practical Nature Of Mining

1 treat mining like business

In business you invest with the aim of making profit long term and sustainable. Inorder to do that just make a small informal business by listing what you need with exact value don’t forget to include monitoring expenses identify a claim close to you or never invest . If you are still tempted to invest far increase scope of investment so that all you will be able to all final production activities month end .
2 nothing can replace your presence
Gold is a currency that can be used without any purification or processing and around Zimbabwe you find gold nuggets of 5points upto 10kg your absence means you won’t be able to see it or account for production done using your own money. Be there from day one study everything learn all risks and rewards.

Your kids , wife and relatives are not you they can steal from you infact most gold related theft or lack of accountability is orchestrated by related especially the son or daughter in most cases l have come across.

Besides stealing they usually unknowingly disturb or sabotage production in the name of relative. All gold production ends are guarded by mine owner , sponsors or investors and workers nothing is left to chance.

3 avoid overspending on monitoring
Avoid driving up and down to the mine in the name of monitoring because it’s useless and unnecessary unless you spend atleast 6hrs of day time at the mine use public transport and avoid hiring transport for transactions that don’t need a car .

If you want to use a car increase your investment scope to accommodate the car .when ever gold pays you handsomely remember they are dark days ahead plan wisely and create proper backup.

In a notice dated October 5, 2023, Munyaradzi Nyamukondiwa, Zanu-PF’s secretary for transport for Harare province, stated that the party would not hesitate to reclaim the vehicles through law enforcement if the candidates did not cooperate. Last week, Obert Mpofu, Zanu-PF’s secretary for administration, emphasized that all defeated aspirants must return the cars without exception.

In preparation for the elections, Zanu-PF had spent millions of dollars on vehicles, party regalia, and improving the welfare of its members.

Albert Chekai Ensnared in Yet Another Sexual Harassment Scandal as ZBC Sexgate Escalates

By A Correspondent| In a shocking twist to the scandalous ZBC sexgate, another top dog has been caught in the storm of accusations!

Albert Chekai, the newly appointed Director of News and Current Affairs, is now under the spotlight, and the heat is on!

The tempestuous ZBC sexgate initially ensnared Director of Radio Services, Robson Mhandu, accused of sexual harassment by a radio presenter seeking a transfer. But now, the flames have engulfed Chekai, who received his suspension papers at his very doorstep just two days ago, according to reports.

Whispers of sexual misconduct have long haunted the hallways of the state broadcaster, and it seems the dam has burst. Chekai’s suspension papers are just the beginning, as insiders predict a number heads will roll in the wake of these allegations.

Chekai was in 2022, allegedly entangled in romantic liaisons with another female presenter at ZBC with Goodness and Mercy Ministries founder, Prophet Tapiwa Freddy, dropping a bombshell during court proceedings, alleging a love triangle involving Chekai and presenter Rutendo Makuti.

During the gripping cross-examination, Freddy’s lawyer, Everson Chatambudza, threw a punch, confronting Makuti about her alleged romantic involvement with Chekai with the courtroom gasping as the shocking details emerged which painted a vivid picture of tangled love affairs within the state broadcaster’s walls.

Serious Concern Over Sprouting Of Liquor Stores In Harare CBD

By A Correspondent| The Southern African Alcohol Policy Alliance in Zimbabwe (SAAPA ZW) has raised serious concerns about the rapid proliferation of liquor stores in Harare and other urban areas with the escalating trend viewed as a significant threat to public health, safety, and overall societal well-being.

This follows a recent article in a local daily highlighting the surge of liquor shops in Harare with the outlets becoming focal points for criminal activities, drug sales, and prostitution.

In response, SAAPA ZW called on the government to act quickly and adopt an evidence-based alcohol policy that aligns with global strategy and the WHO S.A.F.E.R initiative to curb the growing harm from alcohol consumption.

SAAPA ZW called on the government to limit the number and strategic placement of liquor shops, particularly in residential and high-risk areas, and to restrict advertising and promotion of alcohol.

“Strengthening restrictions on alcohol availability by limiting the number, location, and hours of operation of liquor shops, especially in residential and high-risk areas.

“Advancing and enforcing drink driving counter measures by enacting and enforcing strong drink-driving laws and low blood alcohol concentration limits via sobriety checkpoints and random breath testing are some of the measures from the WHO SAFER initiative being advocated SAAPA ZW,” SAAPA ZW Coordinator Tungamirai Zimonte said.

Zimonte further urged the government to implement price hikes on alcohol by adopting a pricing model based on the amount of pure alcohol content, with the revenue generated being allocated to public health and social development programs.

“SAAPA ZW advocates for raising prices on alcohol by implementing excise taxes and pricing policies based on the amount of pure alcohol content in a product. The revenue generated from these measures should be allocated to public health and social development programs,” Zimonte added.

On 2 October, the world commemorated the World No Alcohol Day, a day set aside to spread awareness of the negative effects of alcohol.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the harmful use of alcohol is responsible for three million deaths annually. In addition, regular consumption of alcohol is linked with high blood pressure, liver disease, stroke, and diverse types of cancer.
