Qualifications For Local Council Aspirants

By A Correspondent- Government is finalising a new law to bar politicians without tertiary education qualifications from running for local authority seats in a development meant to restore competency and improve service delivery.

The Attorney-General (AG)’s office is currently drafting amendments to the Rural Districts Council Act, which seeks, among other things, to fix qualifications for those running for council office.

Among other provisions, the amendments will provide regulations for suspension and removal of councillors from office and procedures for the appointment and operations of independent tribunals.

In addition, the amendment Bill will also set guidelines for the incorporation of junior councillors into development programmes under the local authorities.

Cabinet adopted principles to the Bill in March last year.

Local Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo said: “We sent the principles to the AG’s office and once a draft Bill is completed, it will be sent to Cabinet.

“In terms of councillors’ qualifications, the main aim was to ensure that councillors have minimum qualifications, for example, having a tertiary education qualification.

“So, once the draft Bill is done, it will spell out exactly what the minimum qualification will be.

“We have counterparts who think the process of selecting a councillor is a popularity contest.

“However, we view it is a governance issue, one which affects a lot of issues — ranging from the provision of sanitation, creating an attractive business environment to attracting international investment.

“So, we believe that individuals running a city, town or even a rural district must be capable and have requisite skills and knowledge.”

Minister Moyo said the new regulations will, however, not be ready for the harmonised elections, scheduled for later this year.

“Given the limited time that we have before the harmonised elections, I cannot guarantee that these provisions will be used during this year’s elections,” he added.

“We want to appeal to political parties, as we go into the elections, and say these councils are critical institutions and some of them have budgets that are bigger than those appropriated to ministries.

“Running these councils is like running a ‘country’, therefore, they need to be run by people of higher intellectual calibre than what we have now.”

He said Harare was an example of how unqualified councillors can easily run down a metropolis.

“We have been witnessing some businesses relocating from Harare’s central business district (CBD) because of the prevalence of illegal activities in the CBD.

“This is actually breaking down the CBD, which will be costly to revive.”

Presently, statutes governing the election of councillors do not fix education qualifications for aspiring office holders.

Harare Residents Trust director Mr Precious Shumba said the development will enhance service delivery when councils are run by competent people.

“It is important that, as a country, we apply the same template used by most employers when they recruit their personnel,” said Mr Shumba.

“The idea is to enhance the performance and quality of institutions through recruitment of the right personnel.

“Local authorities in Zimbabwe operate under the committee system, where councillors sit and consider important policy and strategy matters.

“Essentially, all policy formulation requires the input of all stakeholders.

“Competent personnel, especially councillors, have to be literate enough to interpret and critically analyse data and make the best decisions.

Councillors, he said, must play an oversight role over council bureaucrats and “this is only possible when they have the right knowledge and experience to scrutinise documentation and even do their own counter-checking of issues.

“They also play representative and policy making roles, which are by no means trivial pursuits.”

In 2020, former Harare mayor Bernard Manyenyeni said the current crop of city fathers lack basic education qualifications and relevant skills to run the city.

Newly Launched Party Holds Elective Congress

By A Correspondent- Lion Of Praise Progressive Party (LOPP), an ambitious political outfit held its inaugural  primary elections  last weekend in Bulawayo, which also doubled as a congress for party structures and election of leaders.

LOPP was launched a year ago after its founder Washington Dhuva Chibhebhe said he was shown in a dream that he will one day lead Zimbabwe.

“The same way it happened to Noah in the Bible and people used to think he is mentally unstable. But he was receiving instructions and measurements of the ark.

“When any Christian says Jesus came into my heart, the devil doesn’t see them as a person anymore, but as a lion. So when you  keep hearing different people and prophets telling you the same thing then it’s time to start. The first time I dreamt of this was 15 years ago,” Chibhebhe said while speaking on the sidelines of the primaries.

Chibhebhe, who is also a pastor, said one does not require formal education to lead or govern a country.

“We have seen many people  with degrees and some even have Phds, but the country has collapsed into nothing. It now needs wisdom from God,” he said.

Acting party chairperson Noah Banda echoed similar sentiments.

“We are clocking 43 years of independence, but it was just political independence. The ordinary man out there is not economically independent and is unable to enjoy the actual freedom.

“So we want to bring inclusivity in terms of our national resources, job creation and housing. Things are going downhill. You can’t just give a person land simply because he is black but you need someone who can produce or at least train them and equip them with skills,” Banda said.

Donewell Kufandirori (18) was remanded in custody and will be back in court on Monday for bail application.

His father from Chinzanga in Mutoko is a co-accused in the matter.

Allegations are that the accused and his six accomplices (still on the run) extorted the complainant (whose name was not disclosed in court) after misrepresenting themselves as n’angas.

The seven accused person allegedly threatened the complainant and her family with death if she failed to surrender all the property and cash left behind by her late husband who passed on in January 2023.

The accused persons alleged that her late husband’s wealth was accrued through the goblins they gave him before his death.

ED Allies Left Licking Wounds

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s allies were once again left licking their wounds after suffering a second humiliating defeat in the ruling Zanu-PF party primary election re-runs.

Mnangagwa had reportedly sought to breathe new life to some of his alleged allies by ordering re-runs after they had suffered defeats.

Zanu-PF held five re-runs in Zvimba West, Gokwe Nembudziya, Churu, Mbare and Insiza South after Mnangagwa called for re-runs, citing alleged violence and reports of vote rigging, resulting in several losing candidates lodging complaints.

All eyes were on Zvimba West and Gokwe Nembudziya where Mnangagwa threw in a lifeline to the political careers of his fallen allies Ziyambi Ziyambi and Justice Mayor Wadyajena who lost the initial polls.

The plan has since backfired after the duo suffered emphatic defeats with a larger margin compared to the first round.

Unconfirmed results seen by NewsDay show that Ziyambi lost to Mercy Dinha again.

Dinha reportedly garnered 6 022 votes against Ziyambi’s 2 331.

Ziyambi, who is Justice minister, this time around suffered by a massive defeat margin of 3 691 compared to less than 100 votes during the first round that was called off due to suspected violence.

This was despite the withdrawal from the re-run by another Ziyambi rival Gifford Gomwe, a few days before the poll.

Speaking after the results were announced Dinha said the electorate has the final say in politics.

“Politics, like leadership, is not for the faint-hearted. The road has been rocky, however, it has ultimately led me to a beautiful destination where l can finally serve the people of Zvimba West. The electorate has spoken loud and clear on who they want to represent them in parliament,” Dinha said.

“After all, politics is about the people, nothing but the people. I will reside among the people and address all the needs of the community at large. I shall ensure that certain urgent desires of the people are fulfilled such as water, infrastructure development which borders on the modernisation of the whole constituency, women empowerment, income-generating projects for families in Zvimba. I will also help in the renovation of schools and clinics in Zvimba West, among other things. It is my promise to the nation at large that all this and more shall be achieved in Zvimba West,” she added.

In Gokwe-Nembudziya, Wadyajena was defeated by former Cabinet minister Flora Buka.

Buka reportedly polled 5 052 votes, while Wadyajena got 3 822 votes and Buka’s comeback was reportedly backed by Zanu-PF women’s league commissar Maybe Mbowa.

“He wanted to come so that he could continue with his corrupt tendencies, but people are not fools. Mayor (Wadyajena) wanted a comeback so that he could have another chance to loot again. People of Gokwe have opened their eyes. They refuse to be oppressed by one person,” Mbowa said.

In Mbare constituency, there was speculation that Emmanuel Mahachi lost against Martin Matinyanya.  Election results for the Mbare seat were not readily available by the time of going to print.

Zanu-PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa said he was not in a position to comment and would only do so when given the greenlight by the party’s national political commissar Mike Bimha.

“Talk to the national political commissar, l cannot comment on that matter, unless he has grant me permission to do so”

Bimha was not picking up calls by the time of going to print.

In a related incident, Zanu-PF Makoni West aspiring candidate Moses Ruwona has since been locked up on allegations of fraud and money laundering.

Ruwona, who defeated Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services minister Jenfan Muswere in the recently held Zanu-PF primary elections before he was disqualified, has been in custody since last week.

Earlier on, Mnangagwa reportedly ignored recommendations by a Zanu-PF special ad-hoc committee that was established to deal with disputes emanating from the party’s primary elections to allegedly save his allies.

The whole Zanu-PF primary election was marred by controversies whereby various factions purportedly used dirty tactics to outwit each other as the battle to represent the party in the 2023 polls heated up.

Robert Nyemudzo, a Zanu-PF member who was aspiring to be the party’s Chipinge South candidate was disqualified after he was allegedly found to be a drug lord.

Nyemudzo was replaced by Enoch Porusingazi, the incumbent who had come second in the primaries.

Man Dumps Own Baby At Police Station

By A Correspondent- Mabvuku man was last week arraigned before magistrate Dennis Mangosi facing allegations of deliberately supplying false information to the police.

Muchazepi Samunderu (31), who was remanded in custody pending a bail hearing, allegedly told the police that he had picked up an abandoned baby, yet the baby belonged to him.

Allegations are that sometime at the end of February 2020, the accused’s wife was deployed to work in Zvishavane.

She left their one-year-and eight-months-old baby girl in the custody of the accused who neglected and ill-treated the child by taking the baby from one relative to another.

The accused also took the child to his friends, but the arrangement failed and during the same month, the accused decided to abandon the child.

He packed the child’s bags and took the child to Zimbabwe Republic Police Ruwa where he made a false reportthat he had picked an abandoned baby.

He then handed over the child and her bag of clothes to the police.  In April 2020, the mother returned and asked the accused about the whereabouts of the child.

The accused indicated that the child was with relatives.

The mother continued to ask questions, but the child could not be located.

The matter was reported to the police who unearthed what had transpired, leading to the accused’s arrest.

Churches Propose The Appointment Of A Minister Of Religion

By A Correspondent- Council for Churches in Africa (CCA) president Rocky Moyo says the country’s ruling party Zanu-PF will only win the forthcoming general elections through the help of the country’s churches.

Moyo’s congregation is among some of the most influential churches in Bulawayo.

Speaking on Saturday in Bulawayo at the ordination ceremony of Apostle Pesly Jeremiah of Joshua Generation Ministries held in Mpopoma, Moyo said: “A country will not succeed without spiritual people. For instance, when you go to England the next person to the king is the archbishop, a spiritual person and then comes the Prime Minister.

“Right now in this country we are proposing that we have a minister of religion. As long as the President continues to visit churches, this is going to happen,” Moyo said.

He said even the colonisers made use of the Bible to advance the colonialism agenda.

“And I also said if he keeps going around churches he is definitely going to get my vote because it means he recognises us as people from the religious sector.

“I am saying this because a church is an important place and it’s unfortunate you don’t see this. When we look back into our historical background, the first person to bring a Bible was [missionary John] Moffat who was working together with Cecil John Rhodes,” Moyo said.

“The fact that we ran away from politics is the reason why churches have continued to suffer together with the people.”

He said Zanu-PF must work together with churches to guarantee being voted back into power

“I promise them that if they recognise us then we will also assist them,” Moyo said.

Joshua Generation Ministries Apostle Pesly Jeremiah said he was grateful that the CCA president came to ordain him.

“We are thankful that you are a church that does not discriminate, you came all the way to my church which is still being hosted in another person’s house. We appreciate you coming all the way here,” Jeremiah said.

Mnangagwa Says He Has Accepted King Charles III Coronation Invitation

By A Correspondent| President Emmerson Mnangagwa has announced that he has accepted an invitation to attend King Charles III coronation.

Posting on Twitter, Mnangagwa expressed excitement for the gesture shown by King Charles to invite him to such a high profile event that is likely to international attention.

“I’m most excited to announce that I have accepted an invitation to the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. Yesterday I met with the British Ambassador, Melanie Robinson. We also discussed trade, investment, and the special relationship between Zimbabwe and the UK,” said Mnangagwa.

Zimbabwe and United Kingdom have had frosty relations since around 2000 due to the late former leader President Robert Mugabe’s move to violently grab land from former white settlers.

UK later imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe citing human rights violations and lack of rule of law.

UK’s latest move will come as sweet news to Mnangagwa who has been on a re-engagement offensive targeting countries deemed hostile to Zimbabwe.

“We Rescued ED”: POLAD

By A Correspondent- Principals under the Political Actors Dialogue (Polad) have claimed that they rescued the country from total economic collapse after the finance ministry and the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe implemented recommendations made by the platform.

Polad members said after the 2018 elections, the country was heading for an economic mess and the grouping proposed a cocktail of measures to rescue Mnangagwa out of the quagmire.

Polad head of the economic thematic committee, Trust Chikohora said the economic summit in 2020 proffered solutions for the turning around of Zimbabwe’s suffocating economy.

“The economic summit unearthed real issues that were affecting our economy from stakeholders and the market. The market and stakeholders came up with their recommendations and we compiled a report and handed it to Mnangagwa for his consideration and we are glad the report was implemented,” he said.

Chikohora said Polad’s Currency Indaba held in 2022 also helped stabilise the currency.

The main thrust of the Currency Indaba was to come up with strategies to deal with issues of the currency market and tame inflation in order to achieve economic growth as spelt out in the country’s Vision 2030.

“One of the major issues raised was the government’s contracts. We realised that contractors were pushing inflation and the government revisited its agreements and inflation started to slow down. Even the issues of gold coins and interest rates were also our idea,” Chikohora said.

Another Polad member, Welcome Shumba said the grouping also helped the government by strongly advocating against sanctions.

“We are part of the people who took part in the protests against sanctions and our common position is that sanctions must go and we have been lobbying for that,” he said.

Mnangagwa gave Polad principals — a grouping of fringe political parties that lost during the 2018 general elections — an unfettered access to him, pampering them with top of the range vehicles and allowing them to conduct their meetings at some of the country’s most exclusive resorts.

Bus Overturns, Killing 2

By A Correspondent- Two people died and others were seriously injured when a bus they were travelling in overturned after the driver lost control along the Manyanda-Kariyangwe road in Binga last Friday.

The bus, which was heading towards Kariyangwe overturned and landed on its side killing two people on spot and seriously injuring a yet to be confirmed number of other people.

The driver reportedly disappeared from the scene.

Police spokesperson for Matabeleland North province Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the accident saying: “I can confirm that a road traffic accident involving a bus claimed two lives in Kariyangwe on Friday at around 1pm and soon after the accident which saw the bus overturning and landing on its side, the driver out of shock, fled the scene.

“We would like to appeal to motorists that they should exercise caution and always consider that they are carrying living souls. They have to value the sanctity of life and abide by relevant road traffic regulations and also when drivers are fatigued, it’s necessary to rest,” Banda said.

The injured were rushed to Binga District and Kariyangwe mission hospitals.

Passengers Association of Zimbabwe president Tafadzwa Goliath yesterday said they were concerned by the rising road accidents on the country’s roads.

“We are concerned by the rate at which people are losing lives due to road traffic accidents and we urge drivers to value lives. We are with the families of those who perished in Kariyangwe. May their departed souls rest in peace. To those who were injured, we wish them a quick recovery,” Goliath said.

Harare Man In Soup Over “ED Is A Failure” Slur

A HARARE man has been arrested on charges of insulting President Emmerson Mnangagwa after he allegedly said the Zanu PF leader was a failure and would lose the elections expected in August this year.

Dumisani Dangirwa (43) appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi on Thursday and was remanded in custody pending bail application.

Prosecutors said on April 7, Dangirwa was at corner Bank Street and Cameroon Street and was heard by the complainant, a police officer, shouting that Mnangagwa was failing to run the country. He went on to say Mnangagwa would lose the elections.

The complainant identified himself as a police officer and ordered the accused to stop insulting the President.

It is alleged that Dangirwa became violent and slapped him. The court heard that Dangirwa continued pursuing the police officer saying: “wakajaidzwa munhu waMnangagwa (you are too spoiled you Mnangagwa supporter)” while shouting other 0bscenities.

ED Appoints Dr Masuka As Non Constituency Legislator

By A Correspondent- President Mnangagwa has revealed that he has exempted Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement Minister, Dr Anxious Masuka from distractions of constituency politics to solely focus on agriculture transformation as the country moves towards food security status.

Dr Masuka will be a non-constituency legislator.

In March, the Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development ministry came out as the biggest winner in the 2022 performance evaluation results for Cabinet Ministers and senior Government officials, as both the Minister, Dr Masuka, and Permanent Secretary Dr John Basera were named best performers in their respective designations.

Writing in his weekly column for The Sunday Mail and Sunday News, President Mnangagwa said Dr Masuka’s “sole focus” will be on transforming agriculture.

“As your President, my covenant with you has been to banish hunger from our land. That goal is now well in sight, what with the massive investments we continue to commit towards weather-proofed agriculture, and, of course, the sheer hard work of all our farmers, big and small,” said the President

He said this year the country will congregate for the main independence celebrations in Mt Pfura which was renamed Mt Darwin as a food-secure Nation.

“I have released Minister Anxious Masuka from distractions of constituency politics so his sole focus and sole politics relate to this one goal of transforming our agriculture for a food-secure Nation for all times. He will be a non-constituency Member of Parliament, so he has enough time to live, think and dream agriculture only,” he added.

Transforming agriculture is at the epicentre of Government’s Vision 2030, which is aimed at ensuring a prosperous upper middle-income society by 2030.

The vision embraces viability of the agriculture sector, as enshrined in the ambitious Agriculture and Food Systems Transformation Strategy (2020-2025), which President Mnangagwa launched in 2020.

The strategy seeks to ensure that by 2025, Zimbabwe is food secure, with limited food imports, a country that has deepened and broadened exports of agricultural products, and created employment of up to one million jobs in the agriculture sector.

On rural industrialisation, President Mnangagwa said the drive should become the next greatest miracle Zimbabwe showcases and shares with the rest of the continent.

“This thrust must strengthen as we move into the future. Rural industrialisation should become the next greatest miracle Zimbabwe shows to, and shares with our African brethren. China did no less, and lifted millions out of poverty.

“Again, I expect more involvement of our tertiary institutions, which must engage in purposeful, community- and local resource-based research for rural industrialisation.”

Rural industrialisation, which is part of the Second Republic’s devolution agenda, involves nurturing agro-processing start-up enterprises in rural areas through financial and technological support via venture capital funding and Government agencies.

Through rural industrialisation, the Government hopes to stem rural-urban migration which saps growth from the countryside.

President Mnangagwa added that the country’s rural industrialisation drive should be a shining beacon to the rest of Africa.

Last week, the Cabinet revealed that Zimbabwe and Ethiopia are the only two African countries to achieve wheat self-sufficiency with the Government having increased the 2023 winter wheat production target to 85 000 hectares from 80 388 planted in 2022 to further solidify gains from the previous year.

Most farming activities are in the rural areas.

“Cabinet is pleased to inform the nation that during the 2022 winter cereal production season, Zimbabwe together with Ethiopia were the only countries in Africa that attained self-sufficiency in wheat, with 375 131 metric tonnes being produced, against a national requirement of 360 000 metric tonnes,” Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Monica Mutsvangwa said during a post-Cabinet briefing in Harare.-statemedia

Fake Payslips Drama In Court

By A Correspondent- A Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) soldier has been accused by his estranged wife of presenting fake payslips to court to avoid paying maintenance.

Sydwell Mutuda appeared before Harare magistrate Sharon Mashavira on Wednesday and claimed he could not afford what his ex-wife, Chido Chiwakata, was demanding.

Chiwakata wanted a court order directing Mutuda to pay US$120 up from $45 000.

However, Mutuda said he was taking home only $89 000 after deductions from his $310 000 salary.

Chiwakata pleaded with the court to grant her an opportunity to visit ZNA headquarters to obtain his true payslip.

“He is always bringing fake payslips to court,” she submitted.

“I am pleading with the court to allow me to go to his workplace to obtain an original copy of his payslip.

Mthuli Ncube Unveils Cowdray Park Development Agenda

By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF Politburo member and Finance Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube has set his Cowdray Park Development Agenda in motion with the drilling of 24 boreholes. The boreholes are part of a number of development projects that are meant to transform the lives of the people in Cowdray Park.

The boreholes are located in strategic areas around Cowdray Park and will address the issue of water shortages in the area. The water shortages are caused by the city council’s water-shedding schedule.

In addition to the boreholes, Professor Ncube has also promised to install 32 electricity transformers in Cowdray Park. The transformers will address the issue of power outages in the area.

Professor Ncube is representing ZANU-PF in the forthcoming elections in Cowdray Park constituency. He went in unchallenged in the just ended party primary elections in the newly established constituency.

The development projects that Professor Ncube is spearheading are a sign of his commitment to improving the lives of the people in Cowdray Park. The projects are also a sign of his confidence in the people of Cowdray Park.

D- Day For Mamombe’s Passport Ruling

By A Correspondent- CCC member of Parliament Joana Mamombe, who is on bail facing allegations of faking abduction with her two accomplices, wants a temporary return of her passport to travel to Kenya.

Mamombe on Friday made the application before Harare magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje through her lawyer Mr Jeremiah Bhamu. Mr Mambanje is expected to rule today on this adjustment to her bail conditions.

Mamombe said she needed the passport to travel to Nairobi, Kenya for a training conference.

Mr Bhamu told the court that his client was not seeking to travel for leisure, but the training was important for her personal growth as a legislator.

However, deputy Prosecutor-General Mr Micheal Reza opposed the application saying Mamombe was going for leisure and therefore she was not fit to get temporary release of her passport.

Mr Reza said Mamombe was not part of the training management, therefore her absence at the conference would not affect anything.-statemedia

2 CCC Stalwarts Step Down

By A Correspondent- Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislators for Mutare Central and Mutasa Central, Innocent Gonese and Trevor Saruwaka have stepped down from contesting in this year’s polls despite being nominated.

CCC opted for a citizens-centric process to produce the party’s candidates as opposed to the traditional model of primary elections.

The process is being conducted by an independent body, Citizens’ Independent Candidate Selection Panel (CISP), which will produce the party’s contestants in the general election through four stages namely candidate nomination, candidate vetting, candidates’ caucuses and declaration of successful candidates.

In a statement, Gonese, who is one of the opposition bigwigs, said he decided to decline the nomination, and has chosen to back another nomination candidate Brian James to contest for the seat. Gonese’s decisions also come shortly after Saruwaka stepped down from contesting, a move CCC described as meaning to prove to President Emmerson Mnangagwa that power can be transferred peacefully.

“I would like to thank the people of Mutare Central for giving me the opportunity to represent them as their representative in Parliament and also for nominating me as a Candidate in the forthcoming elections,” Gonese said.

“I am also happy that the former Mutare Mayor was also nominated as a candidate and while all the names are being vetted pending further processes, such as consultations and consensus in terms of the new candidate selection procedures, I have decided to decline the nomination.”

He said there was need for new leadership and he was available to offer support for the new leaders.

“I had a fruitful discussion with James yesterday as I consider him a very worthy and deserving person to take over from me and I am pleased to advise that we are going to work together to ensure that Mutare Central remains yellow and plays its part in ensuring that we deliver maximum votes for President Chamisa and all candidates in other positions.

“There is a need for leadership renewal and passing of the baton. I will remain available to render my full support as I am a fully committed champion for change. Brian will have my full support and cooperation and let’s continue to encourage people to register to vote so that we can win big and deliver change,” added the veteran Member of Parliament (MP) who has been quite vocal in Parliament ever since he was elected into the august House in 2008 under the MDC ticket.

Speaking during a Press conference in Harare last week, CCC’s CISP spokesperson Shepard Ngandu said the candidate selection process had now entered the vetting process thus scanning candidates’ credentials and digging into candidates’ history to see if they meet the party’s democratic requirements.

Ruwona Declared Flight Risk With US$8m In Zambian Account. Bail Ruling Today

By A Correspondent- Disqualified parliamentary aspirant Moses Ruwona will be hoping for bail today after his application was contested by the public prosecutor.

Ruwona’s application was challenged on the grounds that he is a flight risk with $8 million United States dollars to his name in Zambia, money he could comfortably live off should he choose to evade the courts.

The 36 year old businessman landed himself in trouble after failing to complete a payment involving free funds amounting to nearly half a million USD.

He had promised to settle these on behalf of Liquid Telecomms and Access Finance in Mauritius and China respectively.

Ruwona’s international tourism operations span Zambia, South Africa and sub saharan Africa.

Free funds, according to the law, are funds that are lawfully accumulated by a Zimbabwean resident, earned in hard currency and limitless in terms of transaction value.

During his bail application, in a desperate attempt to deflect attention from what the Investigating Officer described as “serious offences”, Ruwona’s lawyer sought to paint the defrauded complaints, Liquid Telecom and Access Finance as complicit and having contravened exchange control regulations.

However, Zimbabwean companies are fully authorised under Statutory Instrument 85/2020 and SI 109/96 to settle offshore obligations using free funds, which Ruwona purports to have by virtue of his international tourism operations.

Last week, the court heard that after being given US$630 000 by the data services company and almost half of that amount by the Harare-based investment advisory firm which also owns Access Forex, Ruwona allegedly failed to meet his end of the bargain by remitting only a portion of the offshore monies and submitting fake proof of payments.

Ruwona is also claiming political victimisation after beating Information and Communication Technology minister Jenfan Muswere in Zanu PF’s Makoni West primary elections before being disqualified.

As the case unfolds it is expected that more will be revealed about Ruwona and his international business operations.

According to comments made by a former employee of Ruwona’s Tambwari Holdings, the disgraced Makoni West candidate allegedly has a “habit” of swindling foreign nationals who would have signed up for the hunting expeditions offered by his tour company based in Victoria Falls.

On Ruwona’s official profile on an international business platform, Ruwona describes himself as a taxidermist.

Allegations against Ruwona include that foreign nationals who would have signed up for the expeditions ended up giving into the “extortion” as a legal battle outside of their jurisdictions would end up being costly and most times “Ruwona would be holding their prized hunting trophies as ransom”.

It appears however that this time, Ruwona will have to face the full wrath of the law as the victims are local Zimbabwean companies that were operating well within the guidelines of exchange control regulations and as such did not hesitate to report the crime.

The final bail ruling is at 9am this morning.

Thabo Bester Poshed In SA Hotels Before Escape

As convicted murderer and rapist Thabo Bester languishes in the Kgosi Mampuru II correctional facility in Pretoria, reports have revealed that he and his girlfriend Dr Nandipha Magudumana enjoyed luxury getaways at a hotel in Bloemfontein just weeks before his escape.
Bester and Magudumana arrived back in South Africa on Thursday.

The Facebook rapist faked his own death with Magudumana’s help to facilitate the prison escape from the Mangaung Correctional Centre (MCC) in the Free State.

According to a report by The Sunday Times, the couple stayed at the Tredenham Boutique Hotel, just 25km away from the MCC in March and again in April using one of Bester’s aliases, TK Nkwana.

The Citizen last week revealed that Bester was travelling under at least 19 aliases when he brazenly escaped from the MCC, one of which was TK Nkwana.

The Sunday Times report also revealed that an invoice from the hotel, showed Bester and Magudumana stayed for four nights at the hotel checking in on Thursday, March 24 2022 and out on Monday, March 28.

However, the hotel’s owner said their booking system showed the couple had stayed a further night, checking out on Tuesday, March 29 and were back were two weeks later, checking in for one night on Wednesday, April 13.

Hotel owner Gavin Jacobson confirmed the authenticity of the invoice saying the reservations were made online through the platform booking.com.

“We have extensively questioned the staff, and no-one could recall any details around the guest(s) and if Dr Nandipha Magudumana was accompanied by anyone.”

However, several staff confirmed Bester had stayed there with Magudumana but did not know who they were at the time until police came to question management. -Citizen

Mnangagwa Praises Traditional Leaders

President Emmerson Mnangagwa says the concerns of the community must always be advanced and their priority issues given due attention.

He said this while presiding over the installation of Mr Dambisamahubo Mafu as the new Chief Maduna in Insiza Matabeleland South province.

“Traditional leaders are a vital cog and key institutional component in development, as they nurture people-driven and grassroots innovations with regards to improving the quality of lives of communities. Chief Maduna’s rich background and wealth of experience will undoubtedly see him quickly acquainted with our national Constitution, Traditional Leaders Act and Rural District Councils Act, as some of the source documents which impact the duties and roles of traditional leaders. As we journey towards the realisation of Vision 2030, My Government is championing and promoting development programmes and projects that no one and no place is left behind.

“More importantly, as an ex-officio member of the Insiza Rural District Council, I trust that Chief Maduna’s will be a motivation and provide the requisite guidance in the implementation of initiatives under the Devolution and Decentralisation programmes. The concerns of the community must always be advanced and their priority issues are given due attention. It is through our traditional leaders that Government is brought closer to communities, to make it more accessible; responsive and accountable. This reinforces community resilience anchored by our traditional leaders, who are the custodians of our land, culture and natural resource endowments of our beloved motherland, Zimbabwe. In keeping with the Whole of Government and Society Approach, Ministries, Departments and Agencies, including Rural District Councils, among other development partners, are urged to work closely with traditional leaders,” said the President.

The ceremony honouring the legacy of Chief Maduna the First, who led the Godlwayo military regiment and resisted colonial subjugation.

“On behalf of the people and Government of Zimbabwe and indeed on my own behalf, I want to congratulate the Maduna Clan on the installation of Mr Dambisamahubo Mafu as Substantive Chief Maduna. Amhlophe, Makorokoto. The Maduna Chieftainship is passed down from the father to the eldest son. It derives its roots from the Nguni tribe who migrated from South Africa in the 1850s, led by Dambisamahubo Mafu the great-great-grandfather of Chief Maduna as the Godlwayo Regiment leader. Settling first in the Malungwane area in Umzingwane,” narrated President Mnangagwa.

Mr Mafu has been acting Chief Maduna following the death of his father Chief Vezi Maduna Mafu in February 2021.

The event, which took place at Dekezi High School in Filabusi, attracted a lot of people because of its historical significance, with some of the wards in the region bringing cows to contribute to the festivities.

The installation of Mr Dambisamahubo Mafu as the new Chief Maduna has been hailed as it will ensure the continuation of the rich cultural heritage of the people.

Mr Mafu has a long history of activism and community service.

Said the President, “I commend you for the smooth and swift manner with which you handled this matter. Born in the Kaizen Godlwayo Communal Lands in Insiza, Chief Maduna is a holder of a Chartered Accounting Certificate from the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administration of Southern Africa and a Diploma in Education from Hillside Teachers College. He served our country in the education sector, where he taught in several schools, including at St Josephs and also worked at companies such as Netcom Solutions, World Vision South Africa, Amtec Motors and Wilsgroove Ware Pottery. He held senior managerial positions in some of these companies as Accounting Manager, as well as Finance and Human Resources Manager. Following his retirement, he is now an established farmer, here in Insiza. He has worked tirelessly to promote the welfare of the people of Godlwayo, especially in the areas of health education and economic development.”

President Mnangagwa also urged the people to rally behind his call for unity and peace during the coming general elections.

“As we approach the upcoming 2023 Harmonised General Elections, I call upon the people of Insiza, and Matabeleland South in general, to continue to say no to violence, hate speech, regionalism and tribalism. We are all Zimbabweans, united by one flag, from Plumtree to Mutare, from Beitbridge to Chirundu.”- ZBC News

Lady Chevrons Raring To Go

The Zimbabwe women’s cricket team, the Lady Chevrons, have left the country for their bilateral series against Thailand slated for Bangkok next week.

The Lady Chevrons are gunning for a better performance when they meet a familiar opponent Thailand in the three-day one-day international series and four T20 matches that start on Wednesday next week.

the squad has not played any match since the T20 World Cup qualifiers last year although the domestic Women’s T20 and fifty challenge games came as an opportune time to gear up Garry Brant’s ladies for an international encounter.

The lady Chevrons used the two-week gruelling camp to prepare ahead of the much-awaited Thailand tour.

“The preparations were great not only the camp as we had provincial games which helped very much. A lot of players got to score their runs and boosted their confidence coming to the top, we managed to play our preparatory games which were indeed helpful considering that we are going to face a lot of spinners and talent. So, this helped us to play for talent,” said Lady Chevrons bowler, Christabel Chatonzwa.

Meanwhile, captain Mary-Anne Musonda will join fellow teammates from Hong Kong after taking part in the Fairbreak Invitational series in Dubai.- ZBC News

Mavaza Says: Al Jazeera Used Zimbabwe As Collateral In A Conman’s Fare…Who Blinks Wins The Dollar

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | OPINION | The just ended woeful documentary by Aljazeera has exposed lousy journalism and the political dirty game by Qatar in their quest to bring down Dubai’s economy.

VIDEO DISCUSSION LOADING …

Zimbabwe has been taken as collateral, making it a callous way of settling scores with its neighbour while tarnishing the image of another sovereign state. Qatar used Zimbabwe as collateral and did not even wink to think about the consequences of its actions.

Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) share a naval border and are part of the Arabic-speaking Persian Gulf region. They are both members of the GCC. On 5 June 2017, as part of the Qatar diplomatic crisis, the UAE cut diplomatic relations with Qatar. On 6 January 2021, Qatar and the UAE agreed to restore diplomatic ties fully.

The Qatar diplomatic crisis was a diplomatic incident in the Middle East that began on 5 June 2017 when Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt severed diplomatic relations with Qatar and banned Qatar-registered planes and ships from utilising their airspace, land and sea routes, along with Saudi Arabia blocking Qatar’s only land crossing, as a de facto blockade.

The crisis was thought to have ended in January 2021 following a resolution between Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
In recent years, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been on a diplomatic spree, re-normalising relations with a host of countries in the region, including Syria, Iran and Turkey, and formalising ties with Israel. The UAE’s reconciliation with Qatar following the Gulf Cooperation Council’s (GCC) historic al-Ula summit of January 2021 illustrates shifts toward greater pragmatism in Abu Dhabi’s foreign policy agenda. As part of Emirati efforts to dial down tensions with competitors, rivals and adversaries, the UAE has sought to contain and manage—as opposed to heightening—the friction that has built up between Abu Dhabi and Doha since the 1990s, particularly in the post-2011 period.
Questions about the role of political Islam and pluralism in the Arab world have been at the heart of tensions between the UAE and Qatar. Abu Dhabi’s commitment to an authoritarian model and fierce opposition to the Muslim Brotherhood has led it to perceive various aspects of Qatari foreign policy as a threat to the UAE and what Abu Dhabi sees as ‘moderation’ and ‘secularism’ in the region. Such friction was a major driver of the GCC crises of 2014 and 2017–21.
When a handful of Arab-Muslim nations joined together to apply pressure on Qatar in May/June 2017, Abu Dhabi was the main agent behind that campaign against Doha. The problems between Qatar and the UAE were ideological in nature, whereas tensions between Doha and Riyadh were more strategic.
With this in mind, one asks himself a few questions. The Gold Mafia documentary did not prove any laundering against Zimbabwe. What exactly did it achieve?
It is not a secret that the documentary went further to single out Dubai as the destination of smuggled gold and laundered funds. There is no proof of any Penny leaving Zimbabwe but speculation. It then follows that Qatar, which wholly sponsored Aljazeera, aimed at Dubai and did not care if Zimbabwe was harmed in the process.
The Gold Mafia name was just destruction. When the world listened, they heard clearly that the culprit was Dubai. There are too many gaps in the Aljazeera documentary. In trying to create a strong foundation for their case against Dubai, they grasped for former First Lady Grace Mugabe. The part with the current 1st Lady is heavily edited. We only hear Ambassador Angel and a few words from her. The First Lady was so calm and composed she behaved like any normal African woman. She referred Hurbet Angel to the father. Father supposedly means the President. The responses the First Lady gave did not suggest dealing with a woman. She simply said to talk to the father. Repeat what you have told me to him. One wonders where the conversation starts, which shows that President is involved. The First Lady showed that she was uncomfortable and didn’t even know what the Ambassador was talking about. It seems she assumed it was an investment issue and asks Uerbet to contact the President. That was the only time the voice of the First Lady was heard. How could the First Lady know that Uerbet was with these liars from Aljazeera? It is natural to pick up a phone, so you do not need to know who is with the caller.

Then without shame, Aljazeera brings in Ewan, who was clearly high from Whiskey; Pattni says he is close to President, but we don’t see him call the President or a high-ranking official in the government of Zimbabwe.

Anyone knows that Zimbabweans will use any opportunity to get a deal, including name-dropping. One wonders where money laundering is in this documentary. Is there actual money laundering exposed, or it’s loudmouths who want to grab an opportunity? Why did they not go through to pay the so-called $200.000 to meet ED and expose him? They just gathered a bunch of money-hungry conmen who also saw an opportunity to get a quick buck to fleece the so-called investors. What was happening here was a conference of dishonest people. Angel was equally liable as he name-dropped to win an Investor. And the Aljazeera journalists are criminals who are after destroying Dubai in the name of investigative journalism. It’s a con affair, not the gold mafia.

I’m the documentary, we are being shown a poorly taken film which masquerades as a sitcom. In pubs, people drop names to get a drink. In this documentary, we are just learning how con artists work. The higher the stakes, the high up they drop names. People get worked up; yes, we have to shore up the borders. Why would a so-called ED mafia kingpin use Angel to sell gold if he can fly out with his own plane? One wonders why they go through Pattni and Ewan. Is it feasible that Gold which belongs to the President, passes through immigration? They must find better ways to smear the President. Why did Al Jazeera not take the opportunity to expose ED personally by paying the $200 k which was reduced to $20k just to prove it? A blind man can see Angel was trying to make a quick buck Al Jazeera is the one that was almost conned by Angel desperate for cash. AlJazeera was reckless in its bid to tarnish Dubai; they sowed confusion in the Zimbabweans. Making Zimbabwe to be engaging in illegal activities. With no evidence but advertise that this so-called document will expose the President and his family. Aljazeera allowed anyone to slander another person and did not prove it and yet broadcast what the person said as gospel truth Journalism ethics are broken in the documentary. In a bid to smear ED, anyone is allowed to make a claim that they are connected. Have they done a thorough due diligence of mental and other issues why they are making accusations it should be stated that the dispute between Doha and Dubai erupted over complaints about Qatar’s independent foreign policy, including its close ties to Iran and Turkey? Under a more conciliatory foreign policy driven by economic priorities, the UAE was engaging with Tehran and Ankara after years of badly strained relations.
So it goes without saying that the documentary by Aljazeera used Zimbabwe as collateral.

Bosso Boss Blasts Government

Highlanders coach Baltemar Brito has sensationally claimed government ordered the postponement of his side’s league match against Dynamos to prevent the Harare giants from losing.

FIFA Delegation Visits Zim

A six-member FIFA delegation is reportedly expected to arrive in the country tomorrow for a meeting with the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC), to discuss the roadmap which might culminate in the readmission of Zimbabwe to the international football community.

Zimbabwe was suspended by FIFA in February last year, for a what the world governing body termed ‘third party interference’ after the SRC suspended the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA executive for a litany of allegations, chief among them failure to account for public funds.

Despite FIFA insisting that the suspension can only be lifted if the Kamambo-led administration is reinstated, the world governing body has been having meetings with the Gerald Mlotshwa-led SRC over the course of last year, to find a solution to the problems affecting Zimbabwean football.

According to The Sunday Mail, FIFA head of development programmes in Africa, Solomon Mudege, the governing body’s head of Southern Africa David Fani, senior member associations governance manager, Sarah Solemale, are expected in the country tomorrow.

The publication also reports that CAF director of member associations Sarah Mukuna and Cosafa president Artur de Almeida e Silva, will be part of the delegation.- Soccer24 News

Avoid Excessive Sodium Intake

A first-of-its-kind World Health Organization (WHO) Global report on sodium intake reduction shows that the world is off-track to achieve its global target of reducing sodium intake by 30% by 2025.

Sodium, an essential nutrient, increases the risk of heart disease, stroke and premature death when eaten in excess. The main source of sodium is table salt (sodium chloride), but it is also contained in other condiments such as sodium glutamate. The report shows that only 5% of WHO Member States are protected by mandatory and comprehensive sodium reduction policies and 73% of WHO Member States lack full range of implementation of such policies.

Implementing highly cost-effective sodium reduction policies could save an estimated 7 million lives globally by 2030. It is an important component of action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal target of reducing deaths from noncommunicable diseases. But today, only nine countries (Brazil, Chile, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Spain and Uruguay) have a comprehensive package of recommended policies to reduce sodium intake.

“Unhealthy diets are a leading cause of death and disease globally, and excessive sodium intake is one of the main culprits,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “This report shows that most countries are yet to adopt any mandatory sodium reduction policies, leaving their people at risk of heart attack, stroke, and other health problems. WHO calls on all countries to implement the ‘Best Buys’ for sodium reduction, and on manufacturers to implement the WHO benchmarks for sodium content in food.”

A comprehensive approach to sodium reduction includes adopting mandatory policies and WHO’s four “best buy” interventions related with sodium which greatly contribute to preventing noncommunicable diseases. These include:

Reformulating foods to contain less salt, and setting targets for the amount of sodium in foods and meals
Establishing public food procurement policies to limit salt or sodium rich foods in public institutions such as hospitals, schools, workplaces and nursing homes
Front-of-package labelling that helps consumers select products lower in sodium
Behaviour change communication and mass media campaigns to reduce salt/sodium consumption
Countries are encouraged to establish sodium content targets for processed foods, in line with the WHO Global Sodium Benchmarks and enforce them though these policies.

Mandatory sodium reduction policies are more effective, as they achieve broader coverage and safeguard against commercial interests, while providing a level playing field for food manufacturers. As part of the report, WHO developed a Sodium country score card for Member States based on the type and number of sodium reduction policies they have in place.

“This important report demonstrates that countries must work urgently to implement ambitious, mandatory, government-led sodium reduction policies to meet the global target of reducing salt consumption by 2025,” said Dr Tom Frieden, President and CEO of Resolve to Save Lives, a not-for-profit organization working with countries to prevent 100 million deaths from cardiovascular disease over 30 years. “There are proven measures that governments can implement and important innovations, such as low sodium salts. The world needs action, and now, or many more people will experience disabling or deadly—but preventable—heart attacks and strokes.”

The global average salt intake is estimated to be 10.8 grams per day, more than double the WHO recommendation of less than 5 grams of salt per day (one teaspoon). Eating too much salt makes it the top risk factor for diet and nutrition-related deaths. More evidence is emerging documenting links between high sodium intake and increased risk of other health conditions such as gastric cancer, obesity, osteoporosis and kidney disease.

WHO calls on Member States to implement sodium intake reduction policies without delay and to mitigate the harmful effects of excessive salt consumption. WHO also calls on food manufacturers to set ambitious sodium reduction targets in their products.

Mbudzi Interchange Project Behind Schedule

By A Correspondent- The Mbudzi Interchange project is running behind schedule as the contractor is still to access the area occupied by property owners who are awaiting compensation from the government.

This was said by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Amos Marawa, during a recent tour of the project by the media.

NewZimbabwe.com quoted Marawa as saying the Government is yet to reach an agreement with only one property owner and this had slowed down progress. He said:

We are behind schedule. The government is committed to paying property holders.

Negotiations came too late and thus delayed the compensation to the property holders.

So far, agreements have been made with the affected people except for one that is still outstanding.

We have signed settlement agreements with 51 property holders except for one.
Marawa said of the US$34 million needed to compensate the affected people, the government had paid US$12 million to 19 property holders.
Moreover, 95 other leaseholders within the project space will be relocated. The Government committed to service the land and build three-roomed chore houses for each. Said Marawa:
Government will compensate affected property owners in the next two months. It will reconsider and reconstruct the programming consolidated dates after June.
So far, the government is happy with the quality of the work which is being undertaken by a private contractor (Fossils Mines) at a cost of US$88 million.
The project started on 18 September 2022 and was scheduled to be completed by 17 March 2023.
Marawa said a new expected completion date will be set in June.
The project has 13 interchange bridges as well as 15km of interchange roads and service roads. Four bridges are above 90% complete.

This time Dinha beat Ziyambi by a bigger margin.

Reports indicate that almost 2 000 ZANU PF members who voted for Ziyambi in the initial election abandoned him in the rerun.

Ziyambi reportedly garnered 2 331 votes while Dinha won 6 022 votes in the rerun.

In elections held on 25 March, Dinha garnered 4 104. Ziyambi came out second, with 4 074 votes.

“ZEC Violating The Constitution”: ERC

By A Correspondent- The Election Resource Centre (ERC) has accused the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) of violating the Constitution by failing to publish the voters’ roll ostensibly to protect voters’ data in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

This comes after High Court judge Justice Never Katiyo rejected an application by Harare North MP, Allan Markham, who sought the court to compel ZEC to release the voters’ roll.

He said the release of the electronic voters’ roll would expose the document to manipulation.

But in a statement issued on Wednesday, ERC said ZEC’s reasons for withholding the Voters’ Roll were unconstitutional and will affect the credibility of the elections. Reads the statement:

The ERC notes the statement made by the ZEC Chairperson Honourable Chigumba in Parliament on 5 April 2023.

The Chairperson is quoted stating that the Electoral Commission is unable to publish the voters’ roll as it has the responsibility to protect the data of voters in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

While the Data Protection Act is there to provide for data protection with due regard to the Declaration of Rights under the Constitution, the act also addresses the protection of data in terms of public and national interest.

Section 11 (5) (h) of the Data Protection Act states that the data controller (ZEC in this instance) shall process sensitive data if, “the processing of data is authorised by a law or any regulation for any other reason constituting substantial public interest.”

Section 21 (3) of the Electoral Act legally authorises the Commission to within a reasonable period of time provide any person who requests it, and who pays the prescribed fee a copy of any voters’ roll either in printed or in electronic form as the person may request.

Therefore, ZEC is legally obligated by the Electoral Act read in line with the Data Protection Act to avail the voters’ roll data, especially as it constitutes substantial public interest as the roll is necessary for electoral participation and the realisation of political rights as envisaged by the Constitution.

The continued denial of the voters’ roll especially, to persons with a legitimate interest in the voters’ roll and free and fair elections, such as political parties, candidates and CSOs under the guise of data protection is unlawful and detrimental to the credibility of the 2023 Harmonised Elections.

The ERC repeats its calls, that the voters’ roll should be made public, as the credibility and validity of the delimitation process and the 2023 Harmonised Elections are dependent on it.

SA Soldier Kills 23yr Old Zim Man Smuggling Onions

By A Correspondent- A 23 year-old Zimbabwean man who was allegedly shot dead by a South African soldier at Limpopo River was buried in Bulawayo on Friday.

Mduduzi Mbulelo Mlilo was reportedly assisting border jumpers and smugglers at an illegal crossing point on 02 April when the soldier shot him once in the breast, killing him instantly.

Mlilo was among a group of 16 smugglers who were intercepted by South African soldiers at an illegal crossing point.

His body was taken to Tshilidzini Mortuary in Limpopo Province where it was kept pending police investigations.

The soldier who shot him has since been arrested and charged with murder and is set to stand trial at the Musina Regional Court on 15 May.

Mduduzi’s father, Dubayi Mlilo, told the Chronicle that his son was buried at Luveve cemetery. He said:

This is devastating; my son was killed just like that. If they were really implementing the law, they could have arrested him and taken him to court.

We have had an update from the police and we will follow the case with interest

Mlilo said according to witnesses, Mduduzi was shot while assisting people to smuggle an assortment of goods, mainly onions.

He said he was told that the soldier jumped from a vehicle and opened fire at Mduduzi while standing on the river bank.

He then fell into the water and his body was later retrieved and taken to the mortuary around 8 PM after lying on the riverbed for almost six hours.

On 15 February this year, a member of the South African Border Guard shot and killed a Zimbabwean man at Beitbridge Border Post.

The man was allegedly shot for reprimanding the Border Guards for assaulting an old woman who was picking up empty cans and plastic containers for recycling.

The incident occurred at the foot of the New Limpopo Bridge (NLB) on the South African side of the border at around 4 AM.

Chiwenga Hunts Down Zim Academic Over Multi-Million Dollar Water Project

By James Gwati | A Zimbabwean academic, Jephias Mundawaro’s life is in danger after Vice President Constantino Chiwenga launched a search on him over his association with a local company that he (Chiwenga) hijacked a government tender from.

Chiwenga hijacked a dam construction tender from Tawana Power Corporation.

The company was managed by a Harare businessman and Mundawaro’s business partner, George Mushambi.

Mushambi died of suspected poisoning by Chiwenga early this year.

Sources within the security sector told ZimEye that Chiwanga is now going for Mundawaro, who has since fled to the Netherlands for his safety.

” A team of hitmen has since been assembled to find and disappear Mr Mundawaro because he is in possession of the company papers. We are also told that he wants to expose how the Boss (Chiwenga) blocked the tender and how Mushambi was assassinated,” said the source.

ZimEye contacted Mr Mundawaro, who confirmed his life was in danger.

” I am in hidding and that is all ai can tell you”, he said.

Mushambi’s death followed wrangles with Chiwenga over a multi-million dam construction government tender the late won, which the vice President blocked and later hijacked.

Tawana Power Corporation was awarded a tender to construct the Kondo-Chitowe dam in Manicaland in 2018.

The water project was going to be the most significant inland dam to generate Electricity and feed into the national grid. It would also benefit local communities with irrigation and other farming activities.

The company working with the government had also signed bilateral agreements with the governments of South Africa (Limpopo province) and Mozambique, whose two countries the project was also going to supply both water and power generation.

Chiwenga blocked the tender and grabbed the project after realising the intensity of the project.

Mushambi had taken Chiwenga to the courts challenging these two developments.

Goldmafia’s Mthuli Ncube Drills Boreholes Ahead of 2023 Elections

ZANU-PF Politburo member Professor Mthuli Ncube has set his Cowdray Park Development Agenda in motion with 24 boreholes already drilled, among a cocktail of other developments meant to transform the people’s lives.
Prof Ncube will be representing Zanu-PF in the forthcoming elections in Cowdray Park constituency. He went in unchallenged in the just ended party primary elections in the newly established constituency. The development that he is working to bring to the area is part of his desire to close the development gap in the constituency so that it plays catch-up with other suburbs in the country’s second largest city.

“For over three years I have been having conversations and frequenting Cowdray Park, mostly engaging party structures there. It was during that time that I got well acquainted with the challenges faced by the constituency, particularly the stunted development of major social amenities. Politically, I could have chosen a number of constituencies in the region, Lupane included, but I chose Cowdray Park because of the urgent need for development that is there. My vision is to see Cowdray Park catching up and possibly leap other urban constituencies across Zimbabwe. There is immense potential for that,” said Prof Ncube.

He said with over 9 000 houses in Cowdray Park having no water and sewer connection, a plan has been put in place to address the sewer problem.

We are in conversation with a number of civil engineers in order to get the most professional input in coming up with a permanent solution. Alive to the water challenges facing Bulawayo and aware of the Government’s major projects like Gwayi-Shangani and Nyamandlovu Aquifer, the need for clean water in Cowdray Park is immediate and after consultations with the residents, the most suitable short-term solution we agreed on was the issue of boreholes.

“These will address both the non-connected areas and the connected areas due to the massive water shedding schedule employed by the city council. So far, 24 boreholes have been drilled across strategic sites around Cowdray Park. These boreholes will come with community nutritional gardens in order to improve nutrition and income levels of identified underprivileged groups like widows, orphans, the disabled, women and youth households around these water sources,” said Prof Ncube.

Prof Ncube has also been cognisant of the fact that over half of Cowdray Park is still not connected to the electricity grid. As such, measures have so far been put in place to alleviate the plight of the unconnected community.

“We discovered that residents were paying towards procurement of gum poles and there were no transformers. We have then intervened by sourcing 32 transformers so far out of a required 36, the vision is to have all households connected in the next few months. What is left is the procurement of the poles and we are in touch with a number of companies including Allied Timbers in order to remove the burden from the residents. So, we are very serious about the issue of electricity,” he said.

Prof Ncube has also rolled out other human capital capacitation programmes that have seen youths in the area acquiring various skills training.

“Early this year we rolled out a nurse-aide training course in partnership with the Red Cross Society. A pioneer class of 600 youths went through the first phase and will soon be getting into the last phase while a second group of 600 youths has been enrolled for the second class. This was done at the request of youth groups in Cowdray Park last year and we are already seeing the positive impact that the programme is bringing within the constituency. A skill is a great tool of empowerment,” he said.

He added that there was also a request by youths for assistance towards acquiring driver’s licences.

“We have since rolled out a programme to fund lessons for 1 000 youths within the constituency towards acquiring driving skills and ultimately the licences,” said Prof Ncube. Sunday News

FB Rapist’s Merc Enters Zimbabwe

A Mercedes Benz worth at least R3,5 million that is understood to have been used by captured South African murder convict and escapee Thabo Bester is still stuck at Beitbridge Border Post after it was impounded by law enforcement agents at the border last year, it has emerged.

Stuck at Beitbridge

Bester hogged the limelight in South Africa after his audacious prison escape that was orchestrated with the assistance of his girlfriend and celebrity Dr Nandipha Magudumana. The car was intercepted on May 9 last year when a 36-year-old man from Beitbridge, Sicelo Ndlovu removed South Africa-registered plates from the car and replaced them with Zimbabwean plates.

Ndlovu was later acquitted at the Beitbridge magistrate’s courts where he had appeared on charges of smuggling. Sources at the border said yesterday that the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) was still holding on to the car pending further legal action.

“The vehicle is still impounded pending further legal proceedings,” said a border source yesterday.

It is reported that the prison escapee was travelling in that vehicle before it was busted by the alert Ferret security team. He was remanded to June 2 on $30 000 bail pending trial and ordered to report to CID Beitbridge once per two weeks.

Indications are that Ndlovu, the alleged smuggler who was in the company of two others known as Craig and Brian arrived at the Beitbridge Border Post driving a South Africa-registered Mercedes Benz. They removed its original registration plates and fitted Zimbabwean plates (AFC 2106).

After that they drove the vehicle to the last check point intending to leave the border where they were busted by an alert security guard who discovered that the vehicle had not been properly cleared to enter the country.

Ndlovu then drove back to the border and the matter was reported to the police who found him removing the Zimbabwe registration plates, he later hid under his jersey. The registration plates were recovered and upon verification it was established that they were that of a Subaru Legacy.

According to media reports south of the Limpopo River, (Thabo) Bester skipped the border to Zimbabwe to lay low after escaping from the Mangaung Maximum Security Prison where he allegedly paid R5 million to at least nine prison warders who helped him escape. The man is alleged to have faked his death to escape from the prison in Bloemfontein. Bester is being detained in the C-Max section of Pretoria’s Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre.

He has since been extradited from Tanzania and returned to prison on Thursday. South Africa’s Justice Minister, Mr Ronald Lamola told the media yesterday that the convict was arrested by Tanzanian security authorities. He was busted along with a woman with whom he is alleged to be his girlfriend, and a Mozambican accomplice.

“We can confirm that these fugitives have been returned to South Africa from Tanzania. Mr Thabo Bester has been readmitted into the Kgosi Mampuru Central Maximum Correctional Facility,” said Minister Lamola. -state media

Key Health Tips

REIGNING Champions FC Platinum are looking at nothing but maximum points when they make the long trip to Harare to face one of their biggest rivals CAPS United on Sunday.

After the postponement of the Highlanders and Dynamos match, this fixture pitting two of the country’s fervent giants FC Platinum and CAPS United promises to be an explosive encounter as the Green Machine will be seeking to break a six-year jinx.

The defending champions are walking with a spring in their step after an impressive win over Bulawayo Chiefs last week.

While admitting the difference in magnitude of the two teams, Bulawayo Chiefs and CAPS United, Mapeza believes his men will deliver again when they visit Harare.

The Basic Concepts Of Mining

Steps to starting from zero in the mining sector.

Just like every industry mining has zero beginning where you begin with absolute nothing or with little amounts of less than 100usd .

By nature mining is a very high expenditure business thousands of united States dollars are needed to run a successful mining business sometimes with no returns .

We are going to take you through a short but powerful account of how to begin at zero step by step .

Step 1
Be interested in mining stories read and listen to as many mining stories in detail asking keen and clear questions.

Artisanal miners have a lot of stories to tell each story has a specific detail that is clue to how you can start from zero . By this way you will be informally introducing yourself to it .
Befriend someone in mining.

Deliberately choose a friend who regularly goes to the mine be very close friend. By so doing you receive mining updates and stories for free . You will learn mining terms risks and rewards fast .

3 visit the mines regularly.
Now that you have a friend visit the mines with him regularly to assess the situation and listen to more mining stories from others stay there for a long time sometimes even 12hrs or two days continuously.
4 identify areas of need within your friend’s network.

At this stage visit with a secret book identify needs that would let you in . The easiest is food just buy relish for them for free and start asking direct question how can you be of help .

NB don’t over promise or over commit yourself if you don’t yet understand the risky .

Pause : mining is so risky and ugly the losses are fatal we have lost money huge amounts never to receive it back don’t let the “reward stories ” force you to sell valuable property or use school fees for your kids to invest these “reward stories are structured to lure you .
Lists of free entry points no cent just you .

1 use your own hands join the team with intention of raising money to invest back for those working join night shift before list what you want to do with the money . Below are inputs and values
A box of explosives sets 330usd
A drum of diesel market price
A compressor set 2000usd
Pegging a mine 3000usd.
Never mind the amount using your hands increases the chances of high returns .
2 link with an investor with huge financial muscles and get double share .
3 identify and bring an expert who improve production
Low income entry points in values
1 food and lighting 100usd
50kg mealie
Cooking oil 5litres
Salt
Relish
Torches
Rare cheap entry points
Buying food during milling of ore 400rands or less
Covering a member who felt ill or absent temporarily by some un forseen means .
At this time you have a vision what you want to do this is a list of what you can permanently do
1 be food and relish provider for as many teams as you can .
2 provide transport for life
3 provide explosives and diesel

President Chamisa In Key Meeting With SADC Officials

By Gift Ostallos Siziba

Today( Friday) we met with the SADC Secretariat & its Electoral Advisory Council (SEAC) to discuss a plethora of issues related to the upcoming harmonized elections. Among other issues discussed include the voters’ roll, the persecution of our change champion, Hon Job Sikhala, violence against our members & their arbitrary arrests, weaponization of the law against innocent citizens, delimitation, the banning of more than 60 of our meetings and rallies and the politicization of state media.

We also had an opportunity to present our PREPARE document as well as our our concerns as we approach the watershed harmonized elections.

SA High Court Reserves Judgement In ZEP Holders Case

By-A full bench in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has reserved its judgement in the case brought by the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit Holders (ZEPHA) and other civil society organisations against the state.

ZEPHA is seeking permanent residence in South Africa for Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP) holders.
ZEPHA had previously asked for ZEP holders to be given permanent residence but this was then changed to ask the court to allow them to apply for permanent residence, as required by the Immigration Act.
ZEPHA had also asked for the Minister of Home Affairs Aaron Motsoaledi’s decision to terminate the ZEP scheme to be set aside as unlawful and invalid.
Arguing for the state, advocate Myron Dewrance said the ZEP permit specifically prohibited the holder from applying for permanent residence.
However, Advocate Simba Chitando, representing ZEPHA, argued that the Immigration Act makes provision for those residing in South Africa under a variety of visa programmes to apply for permanent residence and that this right should be granted to ZEP holders.

Presiding Officer Justice Colleen Collis as said:
We have concluded during our brief adjournment that in order to do justice to the merits of this application as well as the importance of the application to the parties concerned and the urgency of this application that it would be prudent rather reserve our ruling.
We are aware that the litigants before the court would want to have finalisation of their pending application before the 30th of June 2023 so we will have that in mind.
The exemption permit system was introduced in 2009 under the Dispensation of Zimbabweans Project (DZP).
It allowed some 250 000 Zimbabweans unlawfully in South Africa to regularise their status, allowing them to live, work and study in South Africa.
In 2014, the DZP was renamed the Zimbabwe Special Permit (ZSP). The name changed again three years later to Zimbabwe Exemption Permit or ZEP.
In September 2022, South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs extended the permit which was due to expire on December 31, for a further six months to June 30, 2023.

Bail conditions for Budirio 25 relaxed

By A Correspondent| The bail conditions for the CCC supporters arrested at a party meeting in Budiriro in January 2023 have been relaxed. The 26 now report to their nearest police station every last Friday of the month, instead of once every week.

The conditions were relaxed after their lawyer, Lynnet Phiri, from the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum, made an application for a variation of bail reporting conditions.

The State opposed the application arguing the reporting conditions were already lenient and a safeguard against abscondment.

The Court granted the application for variation of the bail conditions stating that the State suffered no prejudice.

They will be back in court on 18 May 2023 for trial.

2000 Candidates For CCC Parliamentary Seats, 30 000 For Local Authority

A record of 2 000 candidates are set to slug it out for the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party’s parliamentary tickets in this year’s general election, NewsDay reported.

This came out during the party’s candidates nomination exercise where 30 000 candidates were also nominated to fight for local authority seats.

The CCC began nominating its candidates last week, with an independent candidate selection panel (ICSP) led by human rights campaigner Rashid Mahiya overseeing the process.

Addressing journalists in Harare yesterday, the party’s ICSP spokesperson Shepard Ngandu said the candidate selection process received overwhelming support with the nominees now undergoing a vetting process.

“Nelson Chamisa has been nominated as the presidential candidate by all streets and villages whose returns are in our possession,” Ngandu said.

“For the women and youth nomination also ICSP is yet to finalise its tally; indications are that an unprecedented number of women have been nominated. The youth factor is another exciting and emerging aspect of the nomination process outcome which is positive in ensuring intergenerational… within CCC.”

CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Siziba said party bigwigs such as Tendai Biti, Job Sikhala, Fadzayi Mahere and Joanna Mamombe stand to qualify despite convictions and pending court cases.

“This process is not intending to target people (who) have been convicted through persecution by prosecution.

“This is a security vetting of one’s credentials. We broadly belong to the democratic tradition and the democratic family. These are security issues that must be looked for,” Siziba said.

Gunshot By ZRP Cop

A 38-year-old man from Sojini, Mbembesi was shot on the left shoulder by a police officer last week after a fight erupted among revellers drinking at the Mbembesi Police Station’s canteen
Raymond Mkhomaza is currently admitted at United Bulawayo Hospital (UBH) where he is receiving treatment.

When CITE visited him on Friday, he was still in pain as he said the bullet was still lodged inside his body.

“The incident occurred on Sunday around 5am. We were drinking at the police canteen, we usually drink there as villagers and commotion erupted and we started fighting as patrons. The police on duty came carrying a gun and headed straight to me as I was also fighting and in that commotion he pushed me, making me turn and he shot me,” Mkhomaza alleged.

The victim said he was shot on his left shoulder and after the incident the police officer left.

“I went to the charge office to report that I have been shot. I have spent six days here and the bullet is still inside. I still have to go for an X-ray as the doctor said the bullet missed my heart, and I have a lot of air inside,” Mkhomaza said.

Contacted for a comment, Matabeleland North Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the incident but said Mkhomaza was part of a group that had been carrying “offensive weapons” and posed a threat.

“It happened in Mbembesi of course, I know the story. It’s been a while since it happened, it is not a new thing. What happened was that these guys were found in the early morning hours at Mbembesi police canteen, they were holding some knobkerries and other offensive weapons and whatever they were carrying suggested that they were up to some evil because there is a history of theft at the canteen,” said Insp. Banda.

“When they were asked what they were doing, they said ‘we are not afraid of your gun’ and started advancing towards the policeman.”

Insp. Banda said the policeman fired two warning shots but the men continued advancing towards him.

“The policeman had no option, then the other man was shot in the shoulder,” said Insp. Banda, adding that after the incident, all the men fled.

“The next morning, the man who was shot in the shoulder showed up in the police station, saying he sustained an injury and was arrested.”

Insp. Banda dismissed that Mkhomaza was drinking with other patrons.

“That was not the time to drink and drinking has nothing to do with carrying knobkerries. You don’t need a knobkerrie to drink, you only need your money. You don’t need weapons if you are about to drink, and if you are drinking it doesn’t mean you advance towards the policeman and try to attack him. That incident has nothing to do with drinking,” he said.

Insp. Banda said whenever criminals are confronted by armed police, they must not try to disarm them. –CITE

Platinum Mine Flops

Investors in one of Zimbabwe’s biggest platinum projects — Todal Mining — were this week said to have dumped the project, turning the heat on Mines minister Winston Chitando to cancel its licence.
Todal’s claims were taken from Anglo American Platinum over a decade ago and handed to Central African Mining & Exploration. The company was later bought by Eurasian Natural Resources, which later became Eurasian Resources Group.

The claims are adjacent to AngloPlat’s Unki Mine in Shurugwi.

Government sources close to the project said this week authorities had not heard from Todal investors for a while now.

Senior officials In the Mines ministry told the Zimbabwe Independent that administratively, Todal was changing hands, but would not elaborate.

But others, however, said the project’s international shareholders and local partners had no capacity to run mining operations.

“The lack of development at Bokai and Kinonde concessions by Todal Mining has continued to be of concern to authorities,” a source at the Mines ministry told the Independent. “Chitando is now under increasing pressure to cancel the deal at a time when investment in platinum mining continues to attract investors.

“The proprietors of the project are nowhere to be found. They have literally dumped the project. One of the local partners (name supplied) has been globetrotting and is nowhere to be found.”

Pfungwa Kunaka, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Mines, only confirmed that there were changes underway in terms of Todal’s administration at the ministry.

“There were indications that the project was being transferred to Defold, which is another parastatal,” Kunaka said.

“We are still gathering information internally and will revert,” he added.

Defold is a parastatal in the ministry, which is now chaired by ex- mines permanent secretary, Onismo Mazai Moyo.

Mazai said he could not comment as the transfer of Todal to Delford was not yet complete.

Todal’s local partner Valentine Garacho did not respond to questions.

Questions sent to Eurasia Resources Group via e-mail were also not responded to.

Sources told the Independent that political bigwigs in the Midlands province were backing a well-known mining tycoon to take over the concessions.

The mining tycoon already has a huge footprint in the gold, ferrochrome and platinum sectors.

“There is serious lobbying by some Midlands politicians who have queried Todal Mining’s capacity to execute that multi-billion-dollar project,” a source said.

“Midlands politicians are pushing for this mining tycoon to take over the concessions. They worry that the project has been dormant for too long and this was not good for the province, which already boasts of various successful mining projects,” the source said.

With a 20-year life, Todal was expected to produce an average of 150 000 tonnes of platinum ore per month but required US$250 million investment to start operations.

The Independent is reliably informed that the government has been piling pressure on Todal Mining Limited to come up with a roadmap on starting operations.

Chitando was instructed by Cabinet last year to follow-up on the project and he informed Todal Mining that its concessions could be seized because no progress was made in developing them.

Last year, Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa told a post-Cabinet briefing said Cabinet wanted the platinum project up and running.

“Cabinet also considered the need to get the Todal-Bokai Platinum Project next to Unki Mine into production as soon as possible so that it contributes to the US$12 billion mining industry milestone. Mines minister was also tasked to follow up on the issue accordingly,” Mutsvangwa said then.

Zimbabwe has the world’s third-biggest platinum group metal reserves but to date, only three platinum projects are in full production. Great Dyke Investments’ Darwendale project is yet to take off after failing to raise funding while Karo Resources project is still in the initial stages. –Zimbabwe Independent

Baba Harare Humiliates Star FM Over Winky D Exclusion

Star FM was on Friday humiliated by Baba Harare who withdrew his nomination from its listeners’ awards nominees after the radio station mysteriously snubbed Winky D from the same category.

Baba Harare had been enlisted for the awards together with musicians Voltz JT, Micheal Mahendere, Felix Nandi and Freeman.

But the Jiti chanter protested his nomination saying there are great artists who should have graced the center stage but sadly, they aren’t in any category.

“Thank you very much Star FM and the listeners for the nomination. I feel honoured. However due to my own personal reasons, I don’t feel worthy of the nomination.

“There are other great acts/ artists who should have graced the center stage but sadly aren’t in any category. So I wish my nomination to be withdrawn. Thank you once again for the opportunity.”

Star FM is part of Zimpapers, a state run media oligopoly. State media seemingly stopped playing Winky D music earlier this year following the Zim Dancehall artist’s release of his album Eureka Eureka which the ruling party deemed political.

Critics have since pointed out that Winky D is currently not being played on ZBC and all other government controlled news stations because his latest album challenged Zanu-PF’s alleged corruption and maladministration.

Baba Harare’s followers have since praised him for making such a bold decision of rejecting the seemingly bogus nomination.

Chaos As Zanu PF Nullifies Primary Election Results

THE rerun for the inconclusive ZANU PF primary elections is set for this Saturday and Sunday with candidates vying to represent the party in five constituencies.

The first four constituencies will have their primary elections rerun this Saturday, while Insiza South will conduct its elections on Saturday, April 22 to pave way for the installation of Chief Maduna on Saturday.

ZANU PF National Political Commissar Dr Mike Bimha said vote counting should be done by 6 pm on the same day.

“Reruns are now slated on Saturday 15th of April with polling stations opening at 0700 and closing at 3 pm and immediately after 3 pm counting will start and by 6 pm, counting will be done but they will remain preliminary results to be announced on Monday,” he said.

Dr Bimha added that politburo members will be deployed in each constituency while central committee members will be at each polling station to ensure a smooth process.

“To have smooth reruns, two Politburo members will be deployed per constituency and will be stationed at the command centre. Polling stations will have central committee members and they don’t come from that province same applies to PB members and presiding officers are undergoing a one-day workshop,” he said.

All candidates will meet at the party Headquarters this Friday for a special briefing regarding their conduct as well as that of their supporters.- ZBC News

ZIFA Responds To Nelson Warriors Snub

National teams general manager Wellington Mpandare has responded to Reiss Nelson’s remarks about his nationality.

The Arsenal star, born to a British mother and a Zimbabwean father, has played for the England youth teams, but can choose to play for Zimbabwe at senior level.

Nelson ended any hopes of him being persuaded to don the gold and green Warriors strip, by categorically stating that he is not from Zimbabwe.

Mpandare, who has over the years tried to persuade the 23-year-old to play for Zimbabwe, admits Nelson choosing Jamaica over the Warriors is sad, but his decision will be respected

“It’s sad that (Reiss) Nelson chose not to represent Zimbabwe, but life goes on for us,” Mpandare told Soccer24.

“We would have loved to have him as part of the Warriors, but unfortunately, he chose his mother’s country of birth.

It’s a closed chapter. There are so many players eligible to represent Zimbabwe, and our only prayer is that international football returns soon,” added Mpandare. – Soccer24 News

Facebook Rapist: I’m Scared

Thabo Bester, a murderer and convicted rapist, has informed the court that he is not yet planning to request release.
The “Facebook rapist” claims he will submit an application later.

On Friday, 11 months after breaking out of the G4S-run Mangaung Correctional Center, Bester made an appearance in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court.

In addition to being accused of eluding justice, violating a body, and fraud, Bester is also accused of escaping.

Bester listened closely as the magistrate, who earlier turned down his request to speak in front of the court, heard his attorney argue his client’s case.

According to his attorney, Bester was dissatisfied with the meals provided to him while inside and worried about his safety.

To the following month, the subject was postponed.

Never Opt For Illegal Mining Route

Causes of mine suspension or forfeiture

Mine operations are regulated by laws of the country that protect the environment; people, livestock, wild animals and the economy . Therefore if an officer from ministry of mines or EMA thinks these are threatened by one way or the other the mine is suspended or closed entire through a procedure that is lawful can be challenged in a court of law if offender thinks they have been treated unfairly. We will briefly outline usually causes of those suspensions . You should note that they not always lead to automatic suspension unless if inspections are not renewed on time that one is the only automatic but can also be avoided or requested through relevant offices .

Failure to appoint manager and blaster .
Before a mine starts operations a mine must appoint qualified manager who in turn appoints a qualified blasters. Any mine found any of the two can be suspended if continues to operate unlawfully under suspension a second suspension is usually given then a third one can lead to court that can lead to permanent suspension and a possible ban for life . This can be challenged in court with proof of innocence if such evidence could be there especially if the manager was appointed before the second suspension yet the inspecting officer couldn’t see the appoint letter because of good reasons tabled in court .

Failure to maintain proper ore and gold register.
All mine production of ore and gold should be registered in official gold registers and kept properly taken monthly before the 10th of the next month for returns at ministry of mines. Failure to do can result in suspension or permanent suspension. Such cases are difficult to challenge in court because gold belongs to the state any misappropriation of information can lead to arrest .

Under declaration of gold produced .
All gold productions are recorded by manager properly every day could any evidence that you are under declaring gold production automatic suspension can be effected
Failure to fence , refill and put collar to shafts according to mines requirement .

All mine shafts should be fenced, disused shafts should be refilled and all shafts should have collar to prevent shafts collapse there by causing danger to people and animals . Failure to do so can lead to suspension while working towards meeting mining standards.
Mining in a manner that endangers the environment , livestock and humans
According to EMA all mining activities should preserve the environment and avoid unnecessary loss of lives of both people and animals. Any haphazard mining that destroys vegetation indiscriminately and creates a lot of unfenced or unnecessary spillage of hazardous chemicals into water or atmosphere can result in suspension by EMA .

Failure to have proper license or operations without relevant licenses.
Below are license for both EMA and ministry of mines
Explosives license
Carbon transportation permit
Solid waste disposal license
Hazardous substance storage license
Gold buying license
Gold trade license
If you found operation without this licenses you get a ticket if you persist then you get a suspension effected by black boots or riot police.
Failure to pay inspection fees
Inspection fees are paid annually failing to do so results in forfeiture.

Effects Of Too Much Salt

Bishop Magaya Slams False Prophets

By Bishop Ancelimo Magaya

Whilst it is unfortunate and regrettable that the recent developments in Zimbabwe have punctured a hole of confidence in the character and ministry of the church, let it be known to all that God has not left the world without a credible prophetic witness of the testimony of our Lord Jesus.

Failure on the part of a section of the church and obnoxious behavior of false prophets in sheep’s clothing will not be a valid excuse for non repentance and denial of the lordship of Jesus.

God will judge both the false prophets that have led the gullible astray together with those that reject the lordship and savior-hood of Jesus on account of fake Christians. This is the time to embrace the saving Grace of Jesus Christ. Be truly born again. Walk in His word and you will not be disappointed.

Fighting for socio-economic justice from a stand point of the God who is just, is the way to go. Any other angle is shaky and sinking sand.

By arguing for the God of justice as a stand point from which socio-economic justice agenda should be driven, l am not suggesting a pacifist, docile and pronouncements that are void of action. Scriptures are replete with episodes of action. Remember Nathan’s strategy and prophetic direction he gave to Bathesheba when Adonijah had declared himself the king in a season that God wanted Solomon to be on the throne. God save Zimbabwe.

Byo Church In Fraud Storm

THE United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA)’s branch in Bulawayo’s Nkulumane suburb is at the centre of a fraud storm amid allegations that they duped one of their elderly congregants of her house.

According to court papers filed at the Bulawayo High Court on 20 September last year under case number HC 1984/ 22 Elizabeth Moyo who later died from stress caused by the alleged duping claimed that the church’s pastor Imon David Ndlovu took advantage of her old age and initiated proceedings for her to donate her house to the church.
Moyo diedcon 23 January 2023.

Through her lawyer Tendai Mike Abraham from Tanaka Law Chambers, Moyo had listed Nkulumane United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA), Imon David Ndlovu, The Registrar of Deeds and the City of Bulawayo as the first, second, third and fourth defendants.

The suit reads in part: “Sometime in 2014, the plaintiff was a congregant at the 1st defendant’s Nkulumane branch. The plaintiff was 85 years of age at the time and owned an immovable property, 300 square metres in size, being stand number 14228 Nkulumane Township of stand Number 12600 Nkulumane Township situated in the District of Bulawayo.

“As a result of being advanced in age, plaintiff at the time, and since is infirm, suffers from bouts of dementia and requires assistance with regular day to day activities. Plaintiff is also illiterate”.

The lawsuit states that in 2014, Ndlovu being the pastor of the church initiated proceedings for the now deceased Moyo to donate her house to the church.

According to the court papers Moyo was made to unwittingly affix her thumb print to various transfer documents and she did so trusting Ndlovu as the pastor at the church.

“Plaintiff was illegally and surreptitiously defrauded into donating her immovable property to the 1st defendant. Section 8 of the Deeds Registries Act (Chapter 20:05) provides for the cancellation of a title deed under the present fraudulent circumstances,” further reads the lawsuit.

Mugabe Warned Me To Stay away From Snake Oil Churches ED Now Frequent, Says Mzembi

By A Correspondent| Former Foreign Affairs minister Walter Mzembi has revealed details of what the late former President Robert Mugabe told him about the Pentecostal churches being frequented by Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Posting on Twitter Friday morning, Mzembi said Mugabe told him to stay away from “snake oil church salesmen”.

“Mugabe in one of his twilight Cabinet sessions told us to stay away from these snake oil Church salesmen. Leave them to Mohadi Mushohwe Chikwinya and your deputy he addressed me directly in Cabinet. You are Catholic I don’t want you to mix with them,” said Mzembi.

Mnangagwa and his cabinet including Oppah Muchinguri had a busy Easter holiday as they were pictured attending services at various mass churches in a move widely seen as campaigning ahead of the watershed 2023 polls set for August.

GOLD MAFIA | Episode 4 – Have The King With You

Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit infiltrates the rival gangs that control Africa’s gold. Undercover reporters witness how criminal networks turn dirty cash into gold, which is sold around the world. The investigation leads to the highest offices of state.

Gold Mafia looks at how society’s obsession with gold through the ages now underwrites a global shadow economy, which often operates with the complicity of global financial institutions, regulators and governments.

Through thousands of confidential documents and exclusive interviews with whistleblowers from within the criminal underworld, investigators obtain the blueprints of billion-dollar money laundering operations that service the political elite.

Undercover reporters pose as criminals with up to 1.2 billion dollars of black money that needs to be cleaned. The team is led by a fictitious Mr Stanley, a Chinese gangster with links to the Triads. His undercover reporters befriend members of rival gold mafias.

The Gold Mafia investigation includes a four-part documentary series first released on March 23. The final episode is available on April 13. A six part podcast series accompanies the investigation.

The first three documentaries have made waves in Zimbabwe and South Africa by exposing key members of the Gold Mafia. #GoldMafia is trending across Africa. Find out more about the Investigative Unit @AJI-Unit.com

Pressure Group Condemns Persecution Of Political Activists In Zim

AMNESTY International says (AI) the conviction of Citizens Coalition for Change spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere for “publishing falsehoods” is part of a wider plot by government to silence critical voices.

Mahere was accused of publishing falsehoods in a case involving a woman whose child was erroneously reported to have been struck to death by a baton-wielding Harare police officer while he was enforcing COVID-19 lockdown regulations in 2020.

Video footage of the incident went viral on social media platforms in 2020, showing the distraught mother of the child wailing, while holding onto a police officer who had “allegedly assaulted her baby to death”.

Mahere was fined US$500 or three months imprisonment.

AI’s deputy director for east and southern Africa, Flavia Mwangovya, said Mahere’s conviction had a chilling effect on other critical voices.

“The conviction of Mahere is a travesty of justice as it is based on a law that is no longer existent in Zimbabwe and applied to silence dissent,” Mwangovya.

In 2021, High Court judge Justice Jester Helana Charewa, however, ruled that “there is no offence called publishing or communicating statements prejudicial to the State under Zimbabwean law”.

“The legal provision that was used to convict Mahere was declared void by the Constitutional Court in 2014. The High Court confirmed this in another case in 2021. The Magistrate Court in this case should have taken note of the decisions of the upper courts and acquitted Mahere,” Mwangovya said.

“The conviction and sentencing demonstrate the extent to which authorities are willing to muzzle critical voices and suppress the right to freedom of expression.

“The authorities are sending a clear message that there is no space for exercising the right to freedom of expression in Zimbabwe.”

Mwangovya added: “Zimbabwean authorities must quash the sentence and stop using the courts to target and harass individuals exercising their right to freedom of expression both online and offline.”

Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa and her deputy Kindness Paradza were not reachable for comments, despite repeated efforts.

Critics and the opposition have been expressing concern over the shrinking democratic space in the country.

Zanu-PF has, meanwhile, been railroading controversial laws such as the Private Voluntary Amendment Bill which seeks to regulate the operations of non-governmental organisations and civic society organisations.- NewsDay

Victory Is Upon Us- President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has taken a swipe at his main political rival, Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa pointing out that the Zanu PF President does not have the capacity to rebuild the country.

Mr Mnangagwa’s nyika inovakwa nevene vayo mantra is therefore useless and ineffective, according to President Chamisa.

In a statement posted on CCC’s official Facebook page, President Chamisa said :

“WE ARE NATION BUILDERS: We’re nation builders and our pre-occupation is to win a Nation not Election. We can’t have a nation with a non-functional economy.

Nation builders don’t divide but unite. Nation builders are not driven by hate but by love. Nation builders don’t see enemies in the next man or woman but they see patriots and friends.

We must win this nation for Change. We must win Zimbabwe for Change.”

Tsvangirai Poised For Victory

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC’s Richard Tsvangirai has described the death of Norton elder James Tamson as a body blow to the entire community.

Richard is the son of the late MDC founding president Dr Morgan Tsvangirai.

Richard described the late Mdara Jimmy as a selfless figure.

See statement below:

“This afternoon, I attended the funeral of James Tamson Mdara Jimmy .
As a community, we are deeply saddened by his departure.
He was deeply committed to the role of being a servant of the community.
A teacher, father, and Uncle to many.
May his soul rest in peace.”

On the political situation in Norton Richard said :

“I had a quick chat with Zanu Pf candidate, Constance Shamhu.

She is a champion of new generational leadership.

I promised her that i won’t make age an issue of this campaign and I won’t exploit her age and tiredness for political purposes.

May Norton benefit from this political competition.”

Advantage Real Madrid!

Defending champions Real Madrid handily beat Chelsea 2-0 in their Champions League quarterfinal first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday in a match whose final scoreline could have easily been more lopsided.

Chelsea started strong under new caretaker manager Frank Lampard, with Joao Felix and Raheem Sterling going close early on only to be thwarted by Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois playing against his former club.

However, the hosts grew into the game and went ahead just after 20 minutes when Karim Benzema pounced on a loose ball in front of goal and rolled it into an open net after Kepa Arrizabalaga deflected a Vinicius Junior shot into the Frenchman’s path.

It was Benzema’s 90th Champions League goal with the last 11 all coming against English clubs.

Madrid had eight shots on goal in the opening half and Chelsea will have likely been happy to limp into the dressing room trailing only 1-0 at the break.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side continued to look far stronger than their Premier League opposition as the second half began and Chelsea’s job became even harder ahead of the hour when Ben Chilwell hauled down Rodrygo from behind as he rushed toward goal and was shown a straight red card.

The one-way action became even more pronounced and Madrid soon had their second when Marco Asensio lashed home a shot from the top of the penalty area minutes after replacing Rodrygo in the 71st.

“He looks very good, every game he plays he scores in almost every game,” Ancelotti said of Asensio after the game. “If he starts or comes on, he’s decisive, in any moment he can score or assist.

“Rodrygo takes more risks, he’s more vertical, takes players on, moves without the ball. Marco is good between the lines and has a great shot.”

It was another stellar Champions League night for both Benzema and Vincius, with the latter notching two assists to take his total goal contributions to 11 in European competition this season, second-most behind Erling Haaland’s 12.

“We played well. It’s one of our best games of the season but we have the return leg and we have to stay calm and be strong there, as we were here,” the Brazilian said after the match. “There were a lot of spaces, we always want to score more goals, but we’re playing a great team and we know how difficult it is to play the return leg away from home, that’s why we wanted to score more goals. But we have to stay calm.

“Every player who wears this shirt knows that playing in the Champions League is special, the fans push you, if you play for Madrid you have to want to play in the Champions League.”

Benzema, who scored a hat trick in London last year before getting another in Madrid in a 5-4 aggregate thriller, could have effectively seen off Chelsea in added time at the end of the second half when he headed over with the goal at his mercy after Kepa could only punch the ball as far as him.

Chelsea substitute Mason Mount then came close to a crucial goal for the Blues when he turned and shot in the penalty area but former teammate Antonio Rudiger, also on off the bench, raced in to block.

In the end, the Londoners failed to scored for a fourth match in a row — three of them in the Premier League — their longest barren run since 1993.

Lampard — Chelsea’s top goalscorer who returned to Stamford Bridge for a second spell as coach until the end of the season after Graham Potter was fired this month — embraced Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, himself an ex-Chelsea manager, at the final whistle.

“They’re a very good team, but we have to believe,” Lampard told BT Sport, referring to next week’s return leg in London.

For Lampard’s opposite number Ancelotti, the job was far from done despite the decisive first-leg win.

“We have to do it with a complete game like we played tonight, it was a complete game tonight from the start,” Ancelotti said. “The objective was to take the advantage and we have it, but we’ll have to suffer. Chelsea are a good team with good players, we’ll have to fight for another 90 minutes.

“Against 10 men we could have done a bit more, but against 11 we had used a lot of energy, pressing them to win the ball, and after that we lacked a bit of energy and clarity to do better. We have to repeat this game again at Stamford Bridge.”- ESPN
