Gold Watch

Govt efforts to increase gold deliveries through official channels are gathering momentum and yesterday 17 teams were deployed across the eight mining provinces to carry out a week-long monitoring and surveillance blitz.
The exercise began yesterday and will end on March 8.

Gold bars

The country produced 35 tonnes of the yellow metal last year and is targeting to produce at least 40 tonnes although Mines and Mining Development Minister Winston Chitando said the sector could produce up to 50 tonnes.

The assessment teams were sent off by Minister Chitando during the 2023 First Gold Mobilisation Exercise deployment workshop.

In his remarks, Minister Chitando called on the gold sector to put all efforts in contributing its target of US$4 billion in the overall target of a mining industry worth at least US$12 billion by the end of the year.

“We really would want to put as much effort as we can in achieving our set target and I believe if we put our hands together we can achieve our target,” Minister Chitando said.

He commended the small-scale and artisanal miners for their contribution of 23 tonnes to last year’s production of 35 tonnes and said they had the potential to do more especially following the unveiling of a US$10 million loan facility by Government for them two weeks ago.

“We also want to ensure that we engage in responsible mining by observing the country’s laws be they labour, immigration and environmental laws among others,” he said.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr Pfungwa Kunaka said it was through efforts such as the gold mobilisation that it could ensure compliance for the gold mining sector, ensure growth and reach set targets.

“The gold mobilisation blitz, remains an effective exercise that the Government of Zimbabwe has identified as a driving force to ensure we increase the deliveries of gold to Fidelity Gold Refinery hence the growth of the mining sector and the Zimbabwean economy at large.

“The monitoring and surveillance exercise is intended to raise the amount of gold delivered to Fidelity Gold Refinery and to ensure accountability by stakeholders.

“We must ensure that we conduct the exercise diligently and show innovativeness as we conduct inspections of the production plants as we go through the various stages of production. We would also want records on all hammer mills and mobile gold processing units be collected. That way we will identify leakages and illegal operations. We hope this will open room for gold to successfully find its way to FGR,” Mr Kunaka said.

FGR chief executive officer Mr Peter Magaramombe said his organisation would strive to pay miners on delivery and matching international prices.

“We will ensure competitive pricing which is benchmarked on the international standards and that payment would be made in cash at the gold mining centres,” he said.

Mr Magaramombe added that they would open more gold buying centres especially at the six gold services centres that will be opened this year.

Mr Willie Munhutu from the National Gold Mobilisation Technical Taskforce said there was need to improve security at airports and other entry and exit points to curb leakages.

“Lack of gold detectors at entry and exit points has resulted in smuggling,” he said and also called on Government to keep records of manufacturers of mining equipment and their customers to improve transparency and accountability in the sector.

Chief executive officer of the Zimbabwe Miners Federation, Mr Wellington Takavarasha said with increased Government support, small-scale and artisanal miners had the potential to produce 80 tonnes of gold annually.

“Government should provide geological data to artisanal and small-scale miners and ensure access to capital, grants and lines of credit,” Mr Takavarasha said.

He applauded Government for the US$10 million facility and called for more capacity building initiatives.

The surveillance exercise is set to be held quarterly to improve gold deliveries to FGR. -state media

Armed Raid On Mukuru

6 armed men raided a Mukuru money transfer outlet in Silobela in Midlands Province and handcuffed a cashier and security guard manning the booth at gunpoint before they got away with US$1 800, R7 800 and cellphones.
After the raid, the suspects sped off in their getaway car, a Toyota Wish.

Midlands Police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident, which happened on Tuesday at around midday.

“The robbers masqueraded as genuine clients and joined the queue pretending to be waiting for their turn to be served. Three of them entered the booth and produced pistols before they ordered all clients in the booth to lie down,” he said.

Inspector Mahoko said the gang threatened to shoot the teller before ordering him to surrender all the money and out of fear, he complied.

The robbers then used the security guard’s handcuffs to jointly cuff both the guard and the teller.

“They then ransacked the booth and took the money and two cellphones before speeding off in a Toyota Wish towards Nkayi,” said the police spokesperson.

He said no arrests have been made and they are appealing to anyone with information that could lead to the suspects’ arrest to contact any nearest police station.

Meanwhile, police in Gweru have arrested an 18-year-old man who is part of a three-member gang that used a Honda Fit vehicle to rob passengers in and around the city.

Tatenda Munaka was part of a three-member gang that was driving a Honda Fit around the town and targeting travellers and robbing them of cash and other valuables.

Munaka ran out of luck when one of their victims identified them while refuelling at a local service station and he alerted police and members of the public leading to his arrest.

Two other accomplices managed to escape.

Insp Mahoko said Munaka and his two accomplices moved around Gweru city centre in a Honda Fit targeting unsuspecting people looking for transport.

“On the day in question at around 5.15AM, the gang offered transport to two men who were travelling to Kwekwe from Gweru. Upon reaching Northlea roundabout, they stopped the vehicle and demanded money from the victims,” he said.

“They stabbed one of them with a knife on the left shoulder and right leg before taking the victims cellphones and US$130 cash.”

After pushing the complainants out of the vehicle, the suspects sped off towards Gweru city centre.

“At around 5.40AM that same day, they picked up a man who was going to Woodlands from DST Gweru in town. Along the way, they turned towards Raylton Sports Club and stopped after driving for about 100 metres,” said Insp Mahoko.

“They shocked the victim using a taser (an electroshock weapon used to incapacitate people) and took two cellphones and US$25 cash before driving towards Gweru city centre.”

One of the complainants managed to identify the Honda Fit while it was refuelling at a local service station.

“The vehicle was blocked and two suspects bolted out and ran away while Munaka was arrested. The vehicle was searched and kitchen knives, eight cellphones were recovered,” said Insp Mahoko.

Police have launched a manhunt for the other suspects.-state media

President Chamisa Confronts Mnangagwa Over Political Violence

Tinashe Sambiri|The Zanu PF leader Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa wants to push the country into anarchy.

This was said by CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa.

President Chamisa also challenged the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission ( ZEC) to avail the voters roll.

Read article below:

Credit : Citizens Coalition for Change ( CCC ) Facebook page

?️INTERVIEW: Our Change Champion in Chief, Advocate Nelson recently had a wide-ranging interview with NewZimbabwe.com where he talked about the continued persecution of our party members including Hon Job Sikhala, the growing list of banned rallies, ZEC to act constitutionally by availing the voters roll, vowing to end the tide of bad politics this year and his readiness to lead a New Great Zimbabwe.

“I know that Mr Mnangagwa wants to provoke us so that there is a justification to drive this country into anarchy. We have resisted the temptation because we are nation builders, because we want Zimbabwe to be the best country, the greatest country,” he said.

On the continued persecution of our members including Hon Job Sikhala and on accusations that he is not doing much to assist the persecuted activists, he said, “I am sure they are mistaking me for Mr Mnangagwa who is the one who is persecuting activists and who presides over the government. I am not the head of state yet.

“But would any sane person expect us to share my plans publicly and hope to see those plans being effective after the fact?

“A lot is being done, a lot has been done. We will continue to do that, but we can’t just come and say this is our strategy; this is our plan telling the opponent.

“The situation testifies how sick the nation is, how sick Zimbabwe is. Our politics is broken. Our politics is sick. There is no reason why on trumped-up charges anybody should be incarcerated and placed behind bars. It’s vindictive. It’s persecution.

“It’s rule by law not, the rule of law. It’s the weaponization of the law and the judiciary and that is wrong . That is wrong and we must end that this year.”

He added that there are many citizens who continue to face persecution across the country, particularly in rural areas underscoring that the scenario has been the story of the country’s struggle.

“That has been the story of this fight for democracy and freedom in Zimbabwe.

“You remember that the likes of Last Maengahama and Tungamirai Madzokere spent almost nine years behind bars over trumped-up charges when they had not committed a crime. You know the Nyatsime story; you know the Glen View story. You know the Budiriro story.

“Persecution is everywhere and all over. It’s a reminder that our politics is broken and something is rotten in Zimbabwe. We must fix the rot.”

Responding to fears that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) will be affected by the current tide of broken politics in handling the elections, the CCC leader insisted on accountability and shared responsibility.

“Look, elections are a public process. From the moment one registers as a voter it is public. To the moment that the polling booth is public and cast their ballot and the moment the ballot is counted and the result is announced all these are public.

“This whole thing of piling everything upon ZEC is less profitable. Yes. ZEC must show integrity and impartiality, independence and non -partisanship in their conduct.

“So the result will be known by everyone. So this whole thing of over-dramatizing ZEC is pointless. ZEC is just a referee but we are the players and we are all in the stadium watching the match.”

“Where a referee chooses to throw away the whistle and join the other team. We are duty-bound to draw a line in the sand.

“ZEC must simply avail the voters roll. They must not make it difficult for people to register to vote.”

He went on to challenge Zimbabweans to brace for change as he vowed to pull the curtains down on the ruling Zanu PF party’s 43 years rein.

“Change is coming. Citizens are winning big. The citizens’ victory is unstoppable. It is no longer a CCC or Zanu PF affair. It’s now about Zimbabwe and nation-building. We must join our hands together to win a new great Zimbabwe. When we win, Zimbabwe wins and everyone wins including those in Zanu PFf,” he said.

He insisted that it was about time to build a new republic under a citizen government. A government of all progressive citizens across the political divide.

“I repeat. Come let’s join hands. When we win Zimbabwe wins and the whole nation celebrates. This is a new national consensus, an inter-generational consensus that is anchored on the transformational mandate.

“Our forebears had a liberation mandate. Ours is a transformational mandate. Built on the need to democratise and achieve accelerated national transformation of the economy and politics. Transformation is the solution for the country.

“Now is the time. As I always say, God is in it and no man can stop an idea whose time has come.

“Continuing and perpetuating the past is simply continuing and perpetuating the suffering, rottenness, brokenness, disappointment and a plethora of unfulfilled and unmet commitments and promises,” he added.

Mourinho Sees Red

AS Roma coach Jose Mourinho has threatened a legal action after receiving a red card in the 2-1 loss against Cremonese in the Serie A.

Mourinho was sent off after exchanging harsh words with fourth official Marco Serra, prompting referee Marco Piccinini to give him his marching orders.

However, the Roma boss revealed in the post-game press conference that he was provoked by Serra who wasn’t able to take accountability for his actions.

“For the first time in my career a referee has spoken to me in an unjustifiable way,” the gaffer said.

“I’m not crazy. And to have the reaction I had is because something happened. I need to know now if I can do something from a legal point of view.”

He added: “Piccinini gave me the red because the fourth official told him so. But the fourth official doesn’t have the honesty to also tell him what he told me, how he treated me and what provoked my reaction.”

Following the loss, Roma remained fifth in the table with 44 points, one point behind fourth-placed Lazio.

The win was Cremonese’s first victory in Italy’s top league since March 1996, moving them up one place to 19th in Serie A.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

BREAKING: Al Jazeera Investigative Unit’s Zimbabwe Gold Mafia Documentary Unleashed

PRESS STATEMENT: An investigation by Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit infiltrates the rival gangs that control Africa’s gold. Criminal networks turn dirty cash into gold, which is sold around the world. The investigation leads to the highest offices of state in southern Africa.

GOLD MAFIA is a four-part series by the I-Unit to be released on March 2, 9, 16 and 23, 2023. The series looks at how society’s obsession with gold through the ages underwrites a global shadow economy. It exposes the complicity of global financial institutions, regulators and governments in the criminality.

Through thousands of confidential documents and exclusive interviews with whistleblowers from within the criminal underworld, investigators obtain the blueprints of billion-dollar money laundering operations that service the political elite.

Undercover reporters pose as criminals with over a billion dollars of black money that needs to be cleaned. The team is led by a fictitious Mr Stanley, a Chinese gangster with links to the Triads. His undercover reporters befriend members of rival gold mafia gangs.

In Episode 1: The Laundry Service
The founder of the UK-based Good News Church, which has 15 branches around the world, offers to launder 1.2 billion dollars of dirty cash from China.
“I am the 2nd largest diplomat in the country,” Uebert Angel tells undercover reporters.
Angel is also presidential envoy and Zimbabwe’s ambassador-at-large to 85 countries. He offers to use his diplomatic cover to fly Mr Stanley’s dirty cash into Zimbabwe where it can be laundered through gold and other investments.

“Right now I can have a bag like this with 1.2 billion and put red tape written diplomat. Nobody can touch it”, Angel says. “It is a very, very easy thing.”

Mr Stanley and his team get invited to closed door meetings with Kamlesh Pattni, notorious for devising a gold export scam that siphoned $600 million from Kenya in the nineties. They also sit down with Pattni’s competitor and convicted gold smuggler, Ewan Macmillan.

“There is an opportunity, a hell of a big opportunity to wash money here,” Macmillan says.
Both men are licensed gold traders in Zimbabwe and Dubai. They offer our undercover team lucrative deals to launder over $100 million through government gold export schemes. The rival crime bosses reveal that at the centre of it their operations is southern Africa’s biggest laundromat, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe.
The investigation reveals that the Gold Mafia are employed by Zimbabwe’s ruling elite to export gold on the government’s behalf. It is a scheme to bust international sanctions placed on political leaders and government entities.
Mr Stanley speaks to Henrietta Rushwaya, president of Zimbabwe Miners Federation and niece of President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Within minutes, she offers them a laundry service that can clean $10 million of dirty cash a week through the reserve bank and gold producers she knows.

What are some of the most profitable industries in South Africa?

South Africa is a middle-income country with a mixed economy that is classified as an emerging market. It has a relatively well-developed financial, legal, and transport sectors, and a stock exchange that ranks among the top 20 in the world. Despite this, the country still faces high levels of inequality, poverty, and unemployment. The economy is largely driven by the services sector, followed by manufacturing, mining, and agriculture.

Identifying profitable industries is crucial for economic growth and development in any country. By investing in and promoting industries that have a high potential for profitability and growth, countries can create new job opportunities, increase tax revenues, and stimulate economic activity. It also helps to identify areas of the economy that require government support and intervention to address any challenges or obstacles that may be hindering growth. Additionally, understanding which industries are the most profitable can help investors make informed decisions about where to allocate their resources and capital.

Mining Industry:

The mining industry is one of the oldest and most important sectors in South Africa’s economy. The country has significant mineral resources, including gold, platinum, diamonds, and coal, among others. The mining industry in South Africa is heavily regulated and controlled by the government through various policies and legislation.

Some of the key players in the mining industry in South Africa include Anglo American, BHP Billiton, and Rio Tinto. These companies operate large-scale mining operations in the country and are responsible for significant amounts of the mineral production. There are also many smaller mining companies and operators, particularly in the gold and platinum sectors.

The mining industry is a significant contributor to South Africa’s economy, accounting for around 7% of GDP and employing over 450,000 people. Despite this, the industry has faced significant challenges in recent years, including low commodity prices, declining production levels, and rising costs. However, with the global economic recovery and the increasing demand for minerals, the mining industry in South Africa is expected to grow in the coming years.

The mining industry in South Africa faces several challenges, including high operating costs, labor disputes, and social and environmental issues. The sector has been impacted by rising energy costs, which have increased the cost of production. Labor disputes, particularly in the platinum sector, have also led to significant disruptions to production. Additionally, social and environmental issues, such as water scarcity, pollution, and land degradation, have become increasingly important considerations for the industry in recent years. Addressing these challenges will be crucial for the sustainable growth and development of the mining industry in South Africa.

The government has put in place regulations to control and manage the gambling industry in South Africa. These regulations cover issues such as licensing, advertising, and responsible gambling. In recent years, there has been increased scrutiny of the industry, particularly online casinos in South Africa, due to concerns around problem gambling and money laundering. While these regulations have had an impact on the profitability of some businesses, overall, the industry remains highly profitable and continues to grow.

Technology Industry:

The technology industry in South Africa is a relatively new and rapidly growing sector. The country has a highly skilled workforce, with a strong focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. The wine industry is also a significant player in the agriculture industry, with several large wineries operating in the Western Cape.

The agriculture industry in South Africa faces several challenges, including climate change, water scarcity, and low productivity levels. Despite this, the industry has significant growth potential, particularly in the export market. The government has identified the agriculture industry as a priority sector and has implemented various policies and initiatives to support its growth. With the increasing demand for food and the potential for increased exports, the agriculture industry in South Africa is expected to grow in the coming years.

The South African government has implemented several policies and programs to support the agriculture industry, including land reform, agricultural research and development, and rural development initiatives. However, the industry has also faced challenges related to land ownership and access to funding and resources, particularly for smallholder farmers. Additionally, the government has faced criticism for its response to the ongoing drought and water scarcity issues in the country, which have had a significant impact on the agriculture industry. Addressing these challenges will be crucial for the sustainable growth and development of the agriculture industry in South Africa.

Conclusion:

South Africa has several profitable industries, including the gambling industry, mining industry, technology industry, and agriculture industry. The future outlook for these industries is generally positive, with several opportunities for growth and development. The gambling industry is expected to continue growing, particularly in the online casino South Africa market, as more people turn to online gaming platforms. The mining industry is expected to recover from recent challenges, particularly with the global economic recovery and rising demand for minerals. The technology industry is expected to continue growing, with increasing demand for technology-related services and products. The agriculture industry faces challenges related to climate change and water scarcity, but has significant growth potential, particularly in the export market. The performances has now earned him the Saudi Pro League Player of the Month award for February in the league’s monthly awards. – Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Mourinho Fumes Over Red Card

About Maternal Mortality

Every two minutes, a woman dies during pregnancy or childbirth, according to the latest estimates released in a report by United Nations agencies today. This report, Trends in maternal mortality, reveals alarming setbacks for women’s health over recent years, as maternal deaths either increased or stagnated in nearly all regions of the world.

“While pregnancy should be a time of immense hope and a positive experience for all women, it is tragically still a shockingly dangerous experience for millions around the world who lack access to high quality, respectful health care,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO). “These new statistics reveal the urgent need to ensure every woman and girl has access to critical health services before, during and after childbirth, and that they can fully exercise their reproductive rights.”

The report, which tracks maternal deaths nationally, regionally and globally from 2000 to 2020, shows there were an estimated 287 000 maternal deaths worldwide in 2020. This marks only a slight decrease from 309 000 in 2016 when the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) came into effect. While the report presents some significant progress in reducing maternal deaths between 2000 and 2015, gains largely stalled, or in some cases even reversed, after this point.

In two of the eight UN regions – Europe and Northern America, and Latin America and the Caribbean – the maternal mortality rate increased from 2016 to 2020, by 17% and 15% respectively. Elsewhere, the rate stagnated. The report notes, however, that progress is possible. For example, two regions – Australia and New Zealand, and Central and Southern Asia – experienced significant declines (by 35% and 16% respectively) in their maternal mortality rates during the same period, as did 31 countries across the world.

“For millions of families, the miracle of childbirth is marred by the tragedy of maternal deaths,” said UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell. “No mother should have to fear for her life while bringing a baby into the world, especially when the knowledge and tools to treat common complications exist. Equity in healthcare gives every mother, no matter who they are or where they are, a fair chance at a safe delivery and a healthy future with their family.”

In total numbers, maternal deaths continue to be largely concentrated in the poorest parts of the world and in countries affected by conflict. In 2020, about 70% of all maternal deaths were in sub-Saharan Africa. In nine countries facing severe humanitarian crises, maternal mortality rates were more than double the world average (551 maternal deaths per 100 000 live births, compared to 223 globally).

“This report provides yet another stark reminder of the urgent need to double down on our commitment to women and adolescent health,” said Juan Pablo Uribe, Global Director for Health, Nutrition and Population at the World Bank, and Director of the Global Financing Facility. “With immediate action, more investments in primary health care and stronger, more resilient health systems, we can save lives, improve health and well-being, and advance the rights of and opportunities for women and adolescents.”

Severe bleeding, high blood pressure, pregnancy-related infections, complications from unsafe abortion, and underlying conditions that can be aggravated by pregnancy (such as HIV/AIDS and malaria) are the leading causes of maternal deaths. These are all largely preventable and treatable with access to high-quality and respectful healthcare.

Community-centered primary health care can meet the needs of women, children and adolescents and enable equitable access to critical services such as assisted births and pre- and postnatal care, childhood vaccinations, nutrition and family planning. However, underfunding of primary health care systems, a lack of trained health care workers, and weak supply chains for medical products are threatening progress.

Roughly a third of women do not have even four of a recommended eight antenatal checks or receive essential postnatal care, while some 270 million women lack access to modern family planning methods. Exercising control over their reproductive health – particularly decisions about if and when to have children – is critical to ensure that women can plan and space childbearing and protect their health. Inequities related to income, education, race or ethnicity further increase risks for marginalized pregnant women, who have the least access to essential maternity care but are most likely to experience underlying health problems in pregnancy.

“It is unacceptable that so many women continue to die needlessly in pregnancy and childbirth. Over 280,000 fatalities in a single year is unconscionable,” said UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kanem. “We can and must do better by urgently investing in family planning and filling the global shortage of 900,000 midwives so that every woman can get the lifesaving care she needs. We have the tools, knowledge and resources to end preventable maternal deaths; what we need now is the political will.”

The COVID-19 pandemic may have further held back progress on maternal health. Noting the current data series ends in 2020, more data will be needed to show the true impacts of the pandemic on maternal deaths. However, COVID-19 infections can increase risks during pregnancy, so countries should take action to ensure pregnant women and those planning pregnancies have access to COVID-19 vaccines and effective antenatal care.

“Reducing maternal mortality remains one of the most pressing global health challenges,” said John Wilmoth, Director of the Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs. “Ending preventable maternal deaths and providing universal access to quality maternal health care require sustained national and international efforts and unwavering commitments, particularly for the most vulnerable populations. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that every mother, everywhere, survives childbirth, so that she and her children can thrive.”

The report reveals that the world must significantly accelerate progress to meet global targets for reducing maternal deaths, or else risk the lives of over 1 million more women by 2030.

Mugabe Dark-Horse Off The Hook

By- In another catch and release on Zanu PF stalwarts, the courts Wednesday withdrew charges against former Cabinet Minister Ignatius Chombo.

Chombo was facing corruption charges involving the misappropriation of a $14 billion Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Capital Expenditure loan meant to purchase farm equipment.

Chombo was being charged with fraud.
The charges were withdrawn before plea when he appeared before Harare Regional Magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje.
Chombo was being accused of having misappropriated the loan he acquired under the RBZ Other Crops and Livestock extended to him between October 2005 and January 2006.
The State, in withdrawing the charges, said investigations revealed that he used the money as per the loan requirements.

Empower Communal Miners For Community Development

Gold leakage solution step 1

Business Correspondent

There is need to rename artisanal miners to communal miners.

Gold leakage is a big problem affecting the country. We as Three Wingers are in the process of identifying key holes of leakage affecting the country.

One major cause is policy framework that is in favour of commercial miners which is an elephant to ant comparison by size of land , production, machinery ‘ environmental impact, employment creation and many more.

The term artisanal miners is too fancy to describe what we do ; who are we what keeps us alive which influences policy formulation by government, local authorities and environmental management agency thereby charging heavy fees that could be easier to pay if well structured and administered in an effective manner .

In order to see why name change is important we will look at how communal farmers work and other key factors that could be important in not only curbing leakage but also enhancing stability in the mining sector.

1 Gold is distributed across all districts in the country. The way gold is distributed in the country its highly possible to have more miners than communal farmers plus contrary to popular belief artisanal miners are the poorest with regular cash to dispose with no infrastructure development with lots of credit to EMA , Ministry of Mines , RDC , mining service providers , ZIMRA and many more .

Mining is the leading source of income to most youth in the county because is abundant everywhere probability of picking a gold piece if you know it is higher than chances of making a bumper harvest in some parts of the country. Because of the above gold has become a natural currency that’s exchanged every day without a receipt or anything proof of transaction . Did you know in the mining sector 10 000usd can be exchanged through car windows without facing and never to come back because of the risks involved simply because our colonial driven policies made carrying it a taboo yet its all over the country. Since its distributed across the country it becomes easy means of livelihood for an average Zimbabwean unless laws that makes making a living a crime
Short comparison of communal farmers and communal miners
Communal farmers
1 register local at village level ; same area where gold is found
2 administered local
3 get gvt input support scheme
4 don’t pay back those loans
5 cut trees indiscriminately without EAI
6 cause erosion without management plan
7 have donor back up if things don’t go well
Communal miners
1 register outside district same land where farms are found
2 administered and reports outside district
3 are siphoned not supported by gvt and are barred access to loan or funding
4 pay levies ; commissioning and pay close to 4000usd before operations
5 Report Monthly to province regardless of output
6 have to report when decommissioning
7 registered and compliant miners pay 10times more than unregistered ones in all ways you can think of .

With information above it becomes easier to operate registration which becomes brooding ground for gold leakage, gold smuggling and host of crimes .
Registered miners find it difficult to operate because of running cost that are equivalent to medium scale mining with output purely communal.

3 gold handling , processing and possession laws.
By law only the registered miner and persons registered by him can handle and sell gold .

It also says that the ore with gold should be registered together with gold and many details.
Remember l said gold is in abundance around the country what happens when an ordinary person comes across 10grams which is 500usd yet not registered to handle gold yet next door they is a unregistered gold buyer in the community.

Too many officers visiting the mine encouraging miners to runaway.
List of offices that visiting the mine
1 mines office
2 ema
3 rdc
4 gold mobilisation
5 cid minerals
6 uniformed policy
7 other

This can be solved by one stop shop system whereby we pay % that is inclusive of all other offices so that only monitoring officers will come to monitor , train asses only .

Digital reporting and returns system can further enhance and prevent
1 double pegging
2 cut cost of reporting
3 reduce corruption in the system.

4 make data easily accessible to the public
Previous history of free gold trade .

Between 2015; 16 and 17 we were allowed to deposit gold as artisanal miners no questions asked a lot of people deposited gold without fear of being arrested for trying to make a living.
Questions like where did you get the gold who is the mine owner is it registered where is the permit were not asked just you and your national registration card . To see my point of view check gold deposit trends during that period.
NB thieves are easier to track that way that putting a cumbersome method.
From the above discussion its clear that if we handle artisanal miners just like communal farmers we close gold leakage.
To do that we should have a communal miners approach in
1 levies
2 environmental management
3 decriminalisation of gold possession and communal mining related activities including handling of cyanide and explosives
4 decentralise monitoring and registration to district level later on village level.
5 set up a digital report platform for both EMA and ministry of mines…

Deleted Herald Article Attacking Al Jazeera Documentary

– It’s “an incendiary election campaign weapon.” –

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | Herald | ALJAZEERA will, at least in a few days time, air a documentary which it will be trumpeting as a media scoop of the century.

The documentary will be no more than a stringing together of a combinition of genuine incidents of corruption and fabricated incidents tarnishing the image of the innocent by associating them with corruption. The major reason for this program is to undermine to good work which is being done by the President and ZANU PF.

Aljazera has not embarked on a two year clandestine investigation because they are concerned about corruption in Zimbabwe or anywhere else in the world. There are dangerous and corrupt people in the South, in the North, in the East, in and the West. This is just the nature of human beings. Aljazera’s documentary is designed as an incindiary election campaign weapon.

The document has been two years inthe making and the timing of its release is poinantly culculated to coincide with the start of our national election campaign season.

There is no denying that there is corruption in our country much the same way as you will find in any country in the world. What is lamrntable here is that the overriding purpose of the documentary is to interfer with the electoral procees of a soveign state. We cannot afford to have foreign news media attempting so grossly to interfer with the outcome of our election. Aljazera would not dare do the same thing in Japan, in Asia in America or Europe. It can do so to an African country with impunity.

Zimbabweans must choose their destiny with no interference from foreigners. Aljazera’s interference is as brazen as it is naussetting.

It is telling that for two years Aljazera has not contacted law enforcement agences to report any crime. The reason is that this is not about crime from their point of view. It is about destroying Zanu PF, its leadership and facilitating regime change. We cannot even imagine the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation doing such a thing on foreign countries. If they did, they would be banned, to say the least.

The main target of Aljezera is obviously the Hon Presodent ED.

We have had too many instances where individuals take advantage of photo opportunities with the president. These are corrupt and manipulative characters. They then do name-dropping, which is to drop the mame of the president in conversations as a way of vainly boosting their empty profiles and make commerce out of this. We have our ambassador at large Angel Hurbert extensively interviewed telling ALJAZEERA how money is laundered from Zimbabwe. Angel has always been a dubious character and what he said to ALJAZEERA is damaging and soiling the name of the president. Being that as it may Angel abused his ambassadorial position. The president must call the minister of foreign affairs to order, if he is the one who recommended him. The appointments of people who will be faces of Zimbabwe must be reviewed. It’s not everybody who stands with the president for a photo who is a patriot.

The truth is that the president does not have to take photos with members of his family only or with mininisters only. He is a leader and a public figure. So he poses for photos with every Zimbabwean who comes to meet him if the opportunity allows.

It is ludicrous to suggest that anyone and everyone who shakes the hand of the presodent or has a photo with him is his friend or associate or acquaintence. The truth os that he forgets most of their names as soon as the camera flash is gone.

No one ever suggest that people who shake King Chsrles hand or any other leader’s hand are known to that leader. It is clearly mischievous and cynical to define hand-shaking with President ED as association in corruption.

We also have a deep-seated internal problem
This is that those who must protect the presdent from opportunitic characters sleep on the wheel. The president cannot personally vet people who come and see him. That is the official job of someone. The president is entitled to assume that those that enter his office have been veted and that appropriate officers are convinced that any audience with the president is in the national interest. Those who do not do their vetting job properly must understand the horrendous consequences of their culpable neglect. Such neglect is so detrimental to the interest of our country and it gives opportunity for our detractors to pounce.
there are so many prophets and church leaders who are deeply character flawed. They do not do anything positive while the president is in office, anyway. They use the name of the president to line their pockets and amass wealth.
We must brace ourselves to deal with this problem coming our way. Ubert Angel is not ZANU PF. He is just some alleged technocrat who submitted his application for a role to promote his country of birth.
How he lives his life on a day to day and what deals he involves himself in have nothing to do with ZANU PF or its leaders.
He is just doing like what any conman does, name dropping and anything he said in that ALJAZEERA program is his opinion. He did not speak on his Excellence’s name.
It is high time that we see those after criminal activities hiding behind the first family.
The mentioning of Mguwaya in the ALJAZEERA program is mischvous. ALJAZEERA did not follow up the Pomona program. Instead of being a corrupt vehicle as ALJAZEERA will say Pomona became a state of the art project which has made all the world copy it.
Nguwaya has already moved on from the scandals his enemies tried to bind him in and he is now a national hero who has turned rubbish to something great.
ALJAZEERA will not report the progress and the good work Nguwaya is doing all this is because their agenda is to remove the current government and replace it with their puppets.
The president has made it clear that all Zimbabweans are his people and will have no problem in posing for a photo with the whole world if time permits.
This program where a few individuals are being singled out for a crime because they have photos with the president.
Zimbabwe has its own systems of dealing with corruption and the corrupt ones will be caught very soon.

President ED MNANGAGWA considers corruption a major challenge to his goals of ending extreme poverty by 2030 and boosting shared prosperity for the poorest 100 percent of people in Zimbabwe.
Corruption has a disproportionate impact on the poor and most vulnerable, increasing costs and reducing access to services, including health, education and justice. Corruption in the procurement of drugs and medical equipment drives up costs and can lead to sub-standard or harmful products. The President is aware that every stolen or misdirected dollar robs the poor of an equal opportunity in life and prevents governments from investing in their human capital.
Corruption erodes trust in government and undermines the social contract. The President of Zimbabwe recognises that corruption might impact service delivery.
Corruption might unfairly determine the winners of government contracts, with awards favoring friends, relatives, or business associates of government officials. Or it might come in the form of state capture, distorting how institutions work and who controls them, a form of corruption that is often the costliest in terms of overall economic impact. Each type of corruption is important and tackling all of them is critical to achieving progress and sustainable change. To that end the president will never support corruption in any way.
Corruption is a global problem that requires global solutions. So attacking Zimbabwe hiding behind investigative journalism is cruel. The President of Zimbabwe has been working to mitigate the pernicious effects of corruption. The president works with the public and private sectors as well as civil society to support efforts to prevent corruption, improve remedies to address wrongdoing when it occurs as well as work towards improving behaviors, norms, and standards needed to sustain anticorruption efforts.
To ALJAZEERA we say your i professionalism will catch up with you. To those sponsoring it we say let Zimbabwe run its own affairs in its own way.

Mnangagwa Wants To Drive Country Into Arnarchy : President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri|The Zanu PF leader Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa wants to push the country into anarchy.

This was said by CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa.

President Chamisa also challenged the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission ( ZEC) to avail the voters roll.

Passion Java: I Accurately Prophesied Nigeria Election Winner, President

By Farai D Hove | Within hours of Nigeria’s election results announcement, controversial ZANU PF publicist Passion Java has come out to say that he predicted who would be president.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu was elected president.

Java posted the below video saying God told him who would be voted in as president. It comes at a time when analysts for over fifty years running have continued predicting that only the elite will win, meaning a Tinubu win is just an obvious probability .

Says Java in the below undated clip:

“I will be coming to Nigeria soon, this coming year. We are going to storm Nigeria with fire.

“And in Nigeria I already saw the elections when I prophesied international day of prophecy and I saw this man with glasses and the name was like T, and I saw him walking into power, this February.

“We we will in the future, we are the prophetic, and prophets are hiding scared to say it.

“But me we know what happens, so we say it.

“But this one is walking into power 100% guaranteed.”

BREAKING: Police Brutally Assault ZANU PF Leaders

By Farai D Hove | “The cop is a hot head!,” a woman says after the Kadoma DRG (Police District Reaction Group) brutally assaulted a ZANU PF youth gang who went to Kadoma Police station to demonstrate against the banning of their mshikashika (protection) fees, USD2 per vehicle scheme, last night.

“The DCC has been assaulted?,” another woman asks. VIDEO:

What Would CCC Benefit From Boycotting 2023 Elections

By Patrick Guramatunhu| “What would CCC and ordinary Zimbabweans accomplish by boycotting the 2023 elections, especially when the regime can call upon Mwonzora and company to participate to give the regime legitimacy?

The Zanu PF government will never resign because Chamisa did not participate in the elections!” some  people have argued.

This is a good question.

The short answer is, if you know the electoral process is so flawed that getting 73% of the votes, as Tsvangirai and his MDC friends did in March 2008, is not good enough to win power and know that by participating you are only giving the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy the only rational option is boycott. Let those foolish enough to give Zanu PF legitimacy do so, NOT you!

The long answer entail explaining why the opposition have repeatedly failed to do the rational thing and boycott the elections.

The 2008 elections were a water shed in, one, showing Zanu PF’s carte blanche power to rig elections but most important of all, two, in showing the party would not get away with the rigging. Both AU and SADC, for the first time in Zimbabwe’s history, refused to rubber stamp another Zanu PF rigged election. Robert Mugabe and Zanu PF were really shocked!

Robert Mugabe and Zanu PF were told the Zanu PF government they had formed was illegitimate. They were forced to sign the 2008 Global Political Agreement (GPA), agreeing to the country’s need to implement a raft of democratic reforms designed to dismantle the de facto one party dictatorship, Mugabe’s life time’s work! A Government of National Unity (GNU) was formed and its primary task was to implement the reforms.

Mugabe managed to bribe Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends, the dictator’s GNU partners, with the trappings of high office; the very generous salaries and allowances, ministerial limos, a US$4 million mansion for Tsvangirai, etc., etc. And to show their appreciation MDC leaders throw the reforms out of the window.

“Mazivanhu eMDC adzidza kudya anyerere!” (MDC leaders have learned to enjoy the gravy train good life, they will never rock the boat!) boasted the Zanu PF cronies when asked why MDC leaders were not implementing the reforms during the GNU.

Zanu PF emerged out of the 2008 to 2013 GNU with all it dictatorial powers untouched, thanks to MDC leaders being corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent.

Still Zanu PF was extra careful to never again be denied legitimacy by SADC or anyone else and so the party has ditched the one party state macho image and adopted the multi-party democracy facade. Zanu PF rigged the 2013 elections but was careful to let the opposition win some gravy train seats.

When Mnangagwa took over from Mugabe following the 2017 military coup, he has pushed the multi-party democracy image by calling his administration a Second Republic, a new democratic dispensation and promised and insist 2018 elections were free, fair and credible.

He has increased the benefits of winning the gravy train seats, last year he gave away the US$40 000 housing loan to MPs, which even Chamisa could not deny is a bribe. He also created the POLAD scheme to reward election losers.

Zanu PF before the 2008 GNU was an iron fist. Post 2008 GNU year Zanu PF was an iron fist in a velvet glove!

Zanu PF is blatantly rigging the 2023 elections by failing to produce a verified voters’ roll, by denying 3 million Zimbabwean in the diaspora or 37% of the potential electorate the vote, by using wanton violence to frog match rural voters to vote for the party, etc., etc. These are all serious, iron fist, matters to justify boycotting the election and denying Zanu PF political legitimacy.

Zanu PF is banking on the opposition participating in the elections regardless of the flaws, illegalities and wanton violence. The party knows the opposition leaders are greedy and breathtakingly incompetent, they have shown this to be so graphically during the GNU and the party knows there is no cure for greed or incompetence. And as long as the opposition participate is these flawed election in droves Zanu PF will alway have the velvet glove to hide the iron fist!

Zanu PF will be forced out of office if it failed to get political legitimacy after the 2023 elections, we know that will happen because it happened in 2008! The real challenge therefore is getting the opposition in significant numbers to boycott the elections, their greed is insatiable.

Chamisa et al are hell bent on participating in these flawed elections nothing, absolutely nothing, will to give up the 30 pieces of silver Zanu PF is dangling in their face. They know by participating they are giving Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuating the dictatorship and the tragic human suffering it has caused. They know all these things and they still participate because they care more about the 30 pieces of silver!

Zanu PF In Panic Over Al Jazeera Documentary On Corruption

By A Correspondent| Since the announcement by Doha based Television channel Al Jazeera that they will broadcast a documentary that exposes deep seated corruption within the Zimbabwean government circles, Zanu PF has been in sixes and sevens.

Through exclusive interviews with whistleblowers from within the criminal underworld, Al Jazeera investigators obtained information on how gold is being used to siphon money outside Zimbabwe by a gang of criminals including one cleric Uebert Angel.

Angel was appointed Ambassador at Large and was filmed with President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the State House.

Feeling pressure, Zanu PF has desperately engaged a higher gear to discredit the documentary even before it is released.

On Tuesday, the state run Herald ran an article titled “Not in the name of the President”, an opinion piece that tried to discredit Al Jazeera claiming that the channel was part of a sinister plot to tarnish the ruling party before the much awaited general elections.

The article was later pulled down after it exposed the government.

Now they are now in full scale including employing the use of ghost accounts to attack Al Jazeera.

“The noisy that never was! We are too powerful & intact as a system to be bothered by tricks of cash-seeking nonentities who are desperate to make money out of nothing. @AlJazeera risks reducing itself into a zimeye by being trapped to pay huge money to earn rights over nonsense,” said Zanu PF Director of Information Tafadzwa Mugwadi.

Nick Mangwana had earlier posted this on Twitter:

“We are now in an election season. We are going to see political intrigue and drama. We are already witnessing deception, attempted entrapments and subterfuge, all with an intended political end. But of course it is just some flatulence in the wind.”

The four part documentary will be aired tomorrow and Angel is expected to take centre stage, according to Al Jazeera.

Woman R_aped At Cemetery

By A Correspondent- A woman was rɑpǝd by her former workmate in a parked car at Granville Cemetery on Sunday.

The 22-year-old woman had been offered transport by the accused man, only identified as Matara, from Simon Mazorodze flyover to Hopley, where she stays.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, said Matara was driving a Toyota Wish and was alone when he offered his ex-workmate a lift home.

She asked to be dropped when she arrived at her destination, but the accused person did not stop.

“He parked the car at the cemetery and rɑpǝd her inside the car without protecti0n before dumping her there and driving off,” said Insp Chakanza.

Zim Deploys Cutting-edge Technology To Combat Growing Burden Of Antibiotic Resistance

Harare, Zimbabwe – Over reliance on antibiotics has also led to the growing silent pandemic of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) over the years. AMR happens when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites evolve and stop responding to antimicrobials over time. The Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamase Escherichia coli (ESBL Ec) Tricycle study’s preliminary findings indicated that multidrug-resistant bacteria were widely distributed in Zimbabwe. Additionally, the 2015 AMR situation analysis in Zimbabwe revealed that only 25% of public health laboratories have the manpower, resources, and supplies required to perform culture and antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST) on human samples. Thus, there is a need for further investment in Zimbabwe’s upgraded laboratory diagnostic capabilities.

Directed antimicrobial selection for better patient treatment and outcomes depends on the quick identification (ID) of disease-causing bacteria. In October 2022, Zimbabwe made the Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) technology available for the clinical microbiology laboratory’s quick and precise identification of bacteria, mycobacteria, and fungal infections.

A large amount of time can be saved by reliably identifying bacteria, moulds, and yeast on solid media using MALDI-TOF MS. This method of phenotypic identification is quick and less expensive than the norm (after the initial purchase of the instrument). Installation of the equipment was the first step, and then 10 scientists received on-the-job training in MALDI-TOF MS technology. The training was carried out at the National Microbiology Reference Laboratory in Harare, Zimbabwe, with technical support provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) and under the direction of experts from bioMérieux.

“Reducing the time for microbial identification (ID) and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) could reduce the average time to appropriate antimicrobial therapy, resulting in a decrease in mortality, a shorter hospital stay, and lower hospitalization costs,” noted Dr Raiva Simbi, Acting Director of Laboratory Services, Ministry of Health and Child Care.

To increase laboratory capacity for diagnosis, gather information on drug resistance and promote the use of MALDI-TOF MS to support the prudent use of antibiotics, the UK Fleming Fund was established. Zimbabwe benefited from the £4 million provided by the Fund.

The UK’s Development Director for Zimbabwe, Mrs Geraldine O’Callaghan is proud of the MALDI-TOF MS machine installed with the support of the UK’s Fleming Fund will make such a difference in microbial identification. As COVID-19 demonstrated, strong partnerships, better surveillance and early warning systems are key to identifying and isolating future pandemics before they take off and a One Health approach can prepare us for the next pandemic.

“Globally, the UK plays a leading role in building global resilience against threats to human health for a safer and more prosperous world. We take a ‘One Health’ and ‘all hazard’s approach that focuses on strong partnerships, multilateral cooperation and leveraging the UK’s science, technology, diplomatic and development expertise,” she said.

Optimized diagnostics and data-driven solutions play a vital role in preventing the misuse of antibiotics. They enable healthcare providers to select the most effective treatment for a given condition, thereby reducing the risk of antibiotic resistance.

Ex-Wife Haunts Comic Pastor

By- The former wife of comedian and social media personality Prosper “Comic Pastor” Ngomashi, has accused him of abusing her during the course of their one-year marriage.

Munyaradzi Mavura first made the startling revelations on her Facebook timeline.

Yesterday, she spoke to H-Metro about her ordeal.

However, the Comic Pastor dismissed Munyaradzi’s allegations as baseless.

“The only wife I know is Noddy and that’s the only person I am married to. I married my wife six years ago. Uyo handimuzive.

“If Noddy comes to the media complaining, then I will comment about it. I am currently in England so if Noddy has an issue dai ataura.”

Munyaradzi Mavura

Mavura told H-Metro yesterday she suffered abuse at the hands of the Comic Pastor and her coming out, six years after they separated, was not driven by jealousy, as she had now healed.

“I was married to Prosper for a year and during that period, I suffered like no man’s business.

“He thoroughly beat me up after I had a heated exchange with his current wife, Noddy Zizhou, who was his girlfriend then.

“I remember a day in September 2016 when I responded to a WhatsApp message Noddy had sent to Prosper. I said I miss you, pretending to be Prosper.

“That day ndakarohwa senyoka yapinda mumba even though I was pregnant. Kurohwa then became almost a normal thing. The abuse continued in different forms, but the beatings were the worst.”

She said the Comic Pastor and Noddy combined in tormenting her.

“They called me a witch, shoved me into a car and drove to my parents’ house to cause a scene.

“I told my parents on the phone not to come out because they wanted to cause so much commotion in front of my parents’ neighbours.

“I ended up having a miscarriage due to this. I lost our innocent unborn baby, but he showed no concern whatsoever.”

DZ Man Killed For Demanding His $6

By- A Dzivaresekwa man has been killed for asking for his $6 from a friend.

The killer, Gift Jimu, appeared in court on murder allegations after he shoved Moses Nkhulungo, whom he owed US$6, to a hard road leading to his death.

Jamu (46) appeared before Harare provincial magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi and was remanded in custody to March 16.

He was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
The court heard that on Saturday at around 9pm opposite 346 Gora Street, Dzivarasekwa 3 in Harare, Nkhulungo persistently demanded US$6 which Jamu owed him.
Jamu then shoved Nkhulungo who fell on to the tarred road on his occiput, became unconscious, and started oozing blood from his mouth and nose.
He was rushed to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Blood stains were collected at the scene of crime by forensic examination experts and the samples allegedly matched blood stains collected on Jamu’s jeans, linking him to the crime. Herald

ED Govt To Abolish All Girls’ Schools

EDUCATION authorities are considering transforming single-sex Government schools in Bulawayo into mixed ones as part of measures to address gang-related violence in learning institutions.
Bulawayo is dealing with age long school-related turf wars pitting several schools in the city.

The problem reached a crescendo last month when a Form Four Founders High School pupil, Wayne Ndlovu (16), was stabbed to death by a learner from Hamilton High School.

The 17-year-old Hamilton High School pupil was locked up and his case is still before the courts.

Schools such as Gifford and Milton high now not only compete academically and in sporting disciplines, they engage in violent fights.

The situation is said to have been worsened by the disintegration of family and societal values.

Following Wayne’s killing, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education yesterday held a stakeholders’ meeting at Townsend High School in the hope of coming up with lasting solutions to the problem.

The meeting was covering schools from Bulawayo Central District which include Milton, Hamilton, Founders, Eveline, Gifford, Townsend and Montrose high schools.

Issues to do with drug abuse and pupils carrying dangerous weapons to school emerged as some of the topical issues.

Concerns were raised on modern parenting while Ubuntu values are no longer respected.

During the deliberations it was stated that pupils from gender-isolated schools were fighting over relationships.

For instance, it was stated that as part of the turf wars, boys from Milton High School are ordered not to set foot in Bulawayo’s City Centre which is perceived to be a territory for Gifford High School.

On the other hand, Gifford High School boys are not to be seen at City Hall, a territory those from Milton High School claim.

The history behind the construction of these schools is also said to contribute to the age-old violence pitting the pupils from those learning institutions.

Bulawayo Provincial Education director Mr Bernard Mazambane said following the stakeholders meeting it was proposed that single-sex schools be transformed to mixed ones.

He said consultations will be undertaken before the proposal is adopted.

“We are also considering issues of these single-sex schools. Although we are not in a hurry to make decisions, we are looking into them. We are making further research to make sure that what we are going to implement is holistic and everyone is happy about that,” said Mr Mazambane.

He said there is belief among pupils that boys from schools such as Milton High School are entitled to girls from Eveline High School.

Mr Mazambane said this was so because of the history associated with the schools as they were named after a couple: Sir William Milton and his wife Eveline Milton.

He said pupils from the two schools inherited the history associated with the learning institutions.

“So we really feel we had some ground work where we can start. If you heard from the teachers’ side, the issue of owning a school must end and for it to end we need pupils from Eveline having boys in the same school, Townsend having their own boy learners so that these learners have nothing to fight for. We are not saying that is the single cause,” he said.

Mr Mazambane said the ministry is not going to impose its decision on the community as stakeholder engagements will be conducted before the issue is finalised.

He said once it is adopted the implementation process will be gradual.

“If you are to introduce boys in a girls’ school, that may mean starting with lower classes so that the older girls are phased out with their attitudes. Then with the boys’ school you introduce starting with bigger girls who are able to say no when they are approached. That is our thinking. It is not in the implementation stage,” said Mr Mazambane.

He said parents need to be actively involved in monitoring children’s behaviour so that they do not burden schools.

Mr Mazambane said the ministry also took up concerns from parents and other stakeholders that schools have a responsibility in the socialisation of pupils.

“Learners need parental guidance and from the school level. We also heard from stakeholders that teachers need to play a very critical role in making sure that some of the areas are identified before they go out of hand. For example, the search for weapons that these learners carry and making sure these learners are not idle,” said Mr Mazambane.

He said police should also complement the education sector in dealing with children.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said the meeting was important as it enabled stakeholders to share views on critical issues. He said stakeholders agreed that school authorities remain responsible for learners who are in uniform before they arrive at home.

“When a child is enrolled in a particular school, they are an ambassador of that school and remain a responsibility of that school. So, the school teachers and authorities still have power over them,” he said.

Insp Ncube said police do not have the manpower to be conducting patrols in schools. Chronicle

Mwonzora Recalls Norton Councillors

MDC T under Mwonzora recalls 3 Norton Councillors

28 February 2023

Wezhira Munya

MDC T led by Mwonzora fires three Norton councillors yesterday.

The recalled councillors are: Clr Rosemary Chinoyera ward 9; clr Muchaneta Munyeveri ward 3 and Charles Dube ward 2.

In a letter dated 27th February 2023 to Norton town clerk, the Minister of local Government and Public Work Moyo said, “I wish to inform that l am in receipt of a letter from Movement for Democratic Change (MDC T) stating that the following councillors have been expelled from the party…..”

Furthermore, the recall specialist Mwonzora, also recalled Senator Mudzuri few weeks ago.

MDC T has expelled more than 450 elected officials since Mwonzora took over presidency.

No political party since 1980, have recalled more elected representatives than MDC T led by Mwonzora.

Mwonzora deserves 2018-2023 recall specialist award.

Interesting, MDC T under Mwonzora got zero votes during by elections. Rather that uniting the party and mobilize more voters as 2023 harmonized elections draw near, unstrategic Mwonzora is firing people.

Mining Tips: Gold Leakage Solutions

Salah Speaks On Future

Mohamed Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas has dismissed reports suggesting the player will leave Liverpool if the club fails to qualify for the Champions League this season.

The Reds have struggled this season and remain nine points outside the Champions League qualification bracket in the EPL.

A report Spanish outlet Fichajes claimed that Salah was prepared to leave Anfield at the end of the campaign if the Reds do not finish in the top four.

However, Abbas has rubbished the claim, saying there was never any talk regarding the reported condition.

He wrote on Twitter, while quoting the report: “Nonsense. This was never discussed or thought about. Not qualifying to the Champions League hasn’t even crossed our minds.”

Salah signed a new contract with Liverpool last year and is tied to the club until 2025.

The Egyptian star is expected to be one of the players coach Jurgen Klopp wants to rebuild his squad around in the coming transfer window.

The 30-year-old has been at the EPL giants since 2017 when he signed from Roma, scoring 175 goals through 289 appearances.

The former African Player of the Year has won the Premier League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup and Carabao Cup during his time on Merseyside.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Morocco’s World Cup Star Under Police Probe

PSG defender Achraf Hakimi has been placed under police investigation for sexual assault.

The probe comes after a young girl came forward with allegations of rape against the 24-year-old right back.

According to French outlet Le Parisien, the report was made on Sunday but the accusser, a 23-year-old female from Paris, chose not to file a formal legal complaint.

However, the prosecutor’s office opened an investigation anyway due to what they consider to be grave nature of the circumstances and the evidence presented to them.

The publication adds that the Achraf began talking to the woman on January 16 on Instagram.

He allegedly then invited her to his home in Boulogne on Saturday when his wife, actress Hiba Abouk, was away on holiday with their young two sons.

Upon arrival, the Moroccan star forced himself on the woman, and after few moments later, she managed to free herself after kicking him with her foot, before texting a friend to pick her up.

No charges have been filed against Achraf Hakimi. PSG has not yet released an official statement on the matter.

The right-back, who missed PSG’s victory over Marseille on Sunday because of thigh problems, has also not yet responded to the allegations.

But Hakimi, a star of Morocco’s history-making team at the World Cup, appeared on stage at the FIFA Awards in Paris on Monday evening.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

The Deleted Herald Article Attacking Al Jazeera Investigative Documentary

Why Do The Experts In Zimbabwe Advice To Buy Kratom Online?

Kryptic Kratom is a popular herbal supplement known for its many health benefits. It has gained a reputation as a powerful natural remedy for various ailments and has several benefits for the human body. Many experts in Zimbabwe advise buying it online, and in this article, we will dive deep into the root cause of this. It is found in the Mitragyna Speciosa tree’s leaves in Southeast Asia. The leaves contain alkaloids- mitragynine and 7-hydroxy mitragynine, which have a range of medicinal properties.

Here’s Why Experts Are Advising Buying Kratom Online

Ease of Access

One of the reasons why experts in Zimbabwe advise buying it online is because it can be challenging to find it in local stores. While it is legal in Zimbabwe, it is not widely available in physical retail stores. This is because the government regulates the importation and distribution of Kratom. However, several online retailers sell high-quality products that can be shipped directly to customers in Zimbabwe.

Wide Range Of Options

Another reason buying Kratom online is recommended is that it allows customers to access various strains and products. There are many different types of Kratom, each with unique properties and effects. For example, White Vein strain is known for its energizing effects. When buying it online, customers can browse various strains and products and select the one best suited to their needs.

You can buy here

Furthermore, online retailers often provide detailed information about their products, including their origin, potency, and effects. This information can help customers decide which products to buy. Many online retailers offer customer reviews and ratings, which can provide valuable insights into the quality and effectiveness of different products.

Affordable

Another benefit of buying Kratom online is that it is often more affordable than buying from a physical retail store. Online retailers do not have the exact overhead costs as brick-and-mortar stores, which allows them to offer lower prices. In addition, many online retailers offer discounts and promotions to customers, which can further reduce the cost of purchasing it.

Quality assurance

When you buy Kratom online in Zimbabwe, you can rest assured that the product you receive will be of exceptional quality. The product you purchase online will undergo meticulous testing and quality control measures to guarantee purity and potency.

Furthermore, buying it online ensures that you acquire a product that has been carefully sourced, handled, and packaged by experts in the industry. You can trust that the quality of the product you receive will be consistent and reliable. This is because reputable online vendors of Kratom have strict quality control measures to ensure they sell pure, potent, and free of contaminants products.

These measures may include testing the Kratom for alkaloid content and ensuring that it is sourced from reputable suppliers who use ethical and sustainable farming practices. Therefore, by purchasing it from a trustworthy online source, you can have peace of mind knowing that you are getting a safe and high-quality product.

Convenience

Buying it online in Zimbabwe is convenient and hassle-free. You can shop for these products at any time of the day or night, delivered directly to your doorstep. This eliminates the need to travel to a local store or market, saving time and effort. You can browse and purchase products from the comfort of your own home. This is particularly beneficial for people living in rural areas or having mobility issues.

Cost-Effectiveness

If you’re looking to buy it in Zimbabwe, shopping for it online can save you money compared to buying it at a local store. This is because online vendors often provide discounts and special deals unavailable in physical stores. Additionally, you can compare prices from different online vendors to find the best price for the Kratom you need.

This benefits individuals who use it regularly and need to purchase larger quantities. Buying bulk from an online vendor can lead to significant savings over time. Plus, when shopping online, you can avoid the time and cost associated with traveling to a physical store.

Privacy

Buying it online in Zimbabwe offers privacy unavailable when purchasing from local stores. Online vendors typically ship products in discreet packaging, and the transactions are secure and confidential. This mainly benefits people who may feel uncomfortable purchasing it in person.

When buying it online, choosing a reputable retailer that sells high-quality products is essential. Look for a retailer with detailed product information, including its source, purity, and potency. You should also read customer reviews and ratings to get an idea of the retailer’s reputation and the quality of its products.

Price

Buying Kratom online in Zimbabwe can be more cost-effective than purchasing from local stores. Online vendors often offer discounts and promotions, and you can compare prices across different vendors to find the best deal. This is particularly beneficial for people who use it regularly and need to purchase it in larger quantities.

Variety

Buying it online in Zimbabwe gives you access to a broader range of strains and products than you would typically find in local stores. This lets you choose the strain and product best suits your needs and preferences. Online vendors usually offer it in different forms, such as powder, capsules, and extracts.

Experts in Zimbabwe advise buying Kratom online for several reasons. Online retailers offer a wider variety of strains and products, detailed information about their products, and customer reviews and ratings.

Buying it online can be more affordable than buying from a physical retail store. However, choosing a reputable retailer that sells high-quality products is vital to ensure you get the most benefits from Kratom.

Bottom Line

If you are considering purchasing kratom for stress in Zimbabwe, it is essential to do your research and choose a reputable vendor. Look for a vendor with a good reputation for quality and purity, and be wary of vendors who make exaggerated claims about the health benefits of Kratom. It is also crucial to remember that while Kratom has potential benefits, it is not without risks. Kratom can be habit-forming, and there have been reports of adverse effects, including nausea, vomiting, and dizziness. It is essential to use Kratom responsibly and follow the recommended dosage guidelines.

Moroccan Football Star Faces Sexual Assault Charge

Mo Salah Not Leaving Liverpool

About Women’s Safety During Pregnancy

Zimbabwean Former University Lecturer Charged with Plotting to Manufacture Guns

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | A FORMER Bradford University lecturer who is a Zimbabwean by origin who is being accused of plotting to manufacture and transfer sub-machine guns made using a 3D printer today told a jury he was building a racing car and making vehicle parts.

Sibusiso Moyo, was giving evidence at Sheffield Crown Court, where he said he was born in Zimbabwe and came to Bradford aged 18 as a refugee. He studied computer science and systems support and gained a Masters degree at Bradford University.
Moyo is a father of four, and is aged 41. He is staying in Elloughton Grove, Hull, said he had lectured at Bradford College and the city’s university and taught in schools on a voluntary basis. He is a member of CCC an opposition Zimbabwean party.
Moyo is charged together with Majeeb Rehman, 46, of Central Avenue, Little Horton, Bradford, whom he befriended about 17 years ago when they were playing basketball in Great Horton Park. The third defendant, Christopher Gill, 35, of Dick Lane, Bradford, lived nearby and they shared an interest in computer games and working on cars.
Moyo said he was building a racing car and bought a 3D printer for that and to make cheaper car parts. He denied that it had anything to do with manufacturing guns.

He said that in 2021, Rehman showed him a sports bag he had found after it was stashed by a local drug dealer. It contained packages of weed and what looked like a toy gun in pieces.
Gill was also present when Rehman had the bag, Moyo stated. He said the gun parts would look nice on his wall painted gold as an ornament, like the guns in Call of Duty.
Moyo said Gill brought the plastic gun to his house to be sprayed ‘a clear colour’ in September or October that year and it looked like a toy to him.
Rehman later told him that the dealer had found out he had ‘taken his stuff.’ He wanted Rehman and Gill to pay for the weed they had used and the plastic bits.
Moyo said Rehman asked to borrow money but he declined to lend him any.
Moyo and Gill plead not guilty to conspiracy with others unknown to manufacture prohibited firearms.
They and Rehman deny conspiracy to transfer a prohibited firearm, an FGC-9 hybrid carbine sub-machine gun, to persons unknown on May 17, 2022, and possessing ammunition, eight 9mm Luger cartridges, without a firearms certificate.
Moyo and Gill also deny two charges of having a prohibited weapon for sale or transfer.
Moyo pleads not guilty to possession of an identity document with improper intention.
Moyo is one of the Zimbabweans who have been highly educated in the UK but fell to drugs and extremism.

Many Zimbabweans have graced the British prisons for crimes never thought of back
Home.
Moyo’s family was not reachable for any comment.
The case is still in progress.

Confusion Over Gweru Town Clerk Suspension. . .As He Describes Suspension As Political

By A Correspondent| Suspended Gweru City Town Clerk Vakayi Chikwekwe says his suspension is confusing as there are contradictions in the letter of suspension and what is mentioned in the special council resolution.

Chikwekwe was suspended for allegedly violating tender procedures resulting in companies Shesham, Cacas and Wackdrive winning tenders to service stands in the city.

Chikwekwe says he is finding it difficult to explore his legal options because of the contradictions in the two documents.

His lawyer Admire Rubaya of Rubaya and Chatambudza Legal Practitioners has written to the council seeking clarity and challenging the suspension.

He argues that he is just but a council employee with no power to award any tender but it was a collective decision by councilors in a special council meeting who are now making it his case.

“Our client is concerned with clear selective amnesia on the part of the council members relating to the memorandum of agreements for the servicing of Mkoba 21 and Randolph Phase 1 by Shesham, Cacas and Wackdrive.

“It should be noted and sight should not be lost that our client is just a council official who does not make decisions during council meetings.

“Careful consideration of the documents relating to the alleged tender procedures clearly exposes his arrest and suspension as an abuse of the criminal justice system by political players for political expedience,” the letter reads.

The lawyers said Chikwekwe had no role in the signing and awarding of the tenders as it was done by his predecessors.

He questioned the decision to leave the said person’s including the former Mayor who signed as the council representative while targeting him only.

“In the circumstances, where it is alleged that there was alleged unlawfulness in the process of awarding the tender to Cacas, Wackdrive and Shesham, the million-dollar question is what about Cllr J. Makombe who signed the agreements as well?”

His lawyers also said they will be approaching the High Court on urgent basis if a special committee of inquiry set against him is not disbanded as it is made up of people who were part of the tender awarding process.

“It is unjust and unfair for these councillors to constitute the committee in question in circumstances where they are seeking to save their own skins at the expense of our client who is an innocent soul,” the letter read.

He argues that there is nothing criminal on his part and he is just a victim of abuse by individuals through the justice delivery system and ZACC.

“It is our client’s considered view that he did nothing wrong nor did he act in any manner which can be adjudged to be criminal in terms of the laws of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

“It seems as if the powers that be within the council are abusing the criminal justice system and Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission for our client to assume the alleged collective liability be it criminal or otherwise on behalf of the council which made the alleged offending decision to award the tenders.

“Our client asserts that there are other members in your council who are abusing their powers to protect themselves and have embarked on a frolic of their own to protect their own skins in circumstances where they are the only ones who can explain their own decisions and not drag an innocent soul like him into issues that do not relate to him at all.

“It is therefore clear as daylight that our client being a mere council employee without a vote in council and /or decision making powers to pass council resolution did not make the decision to award the alleged tenders but the Council in its wisdom as constituted by 16 councillors made the ultimate decision to award the tenders in question to the specific companies,” the lawyers wrote.

Polls In Flight: Whose Ghost Is This?

Whose ghost is this? I think I know.

His citizens are quite angry though.

His terror is dark jail cell
I stare him pace. I cry hell.

Emmerson Junior, Senior, and mother

He gives his subjects a shake,
And screams I’ve made a bad mistake.

The only other sound is the break,
Of distant waves and birds awake.

The ruler is furry, and deep,
But he has promises to keep,
Tormented with nightmares he never sleeps.
Revenge is a promise a man should keep.

He rises from his cursed Residence bed,
With thoughts of violence in his head,
A flash of rage and he sees red.
Without a pause I turned and fled.

In flight I hear a chorus of rigged votes,

Echoing in a terrain sign posted in blood ink.

Mining: Gold Leakage Solutions

Petition To Stop Mnangagwa From Signing PVO Bill Gains Momentum

Pressure is mounting on President Emmerson Mnangagwa not to sign into law the contentious Private Voluntary Organisations (PVOs) Amendment Bill.

A petition to stop the law, perceived as repressive, has now received 1 447 signatures against a target of 1 500 signatures.

Critics say, if passed into law, the Bill would give government unfettered discretionary power to overregulate and interfere in the governance and operations of non-government organisations (NGOs).

For instance, its provisions provide the government with unchecked power to designate any PVO as “high risk” or “vulnerable” to terrorism abuse, thereby allowing the State to deregister and remove or replace its leadership.

Furthermore, PVOs would be prohibited from supporting or opposing any political party or candidate.

The controversial Bill will also criminalise the work of civil society organisations (CSOs) in Zimbabwe by proposing harsh penalties, including jail time of up to one year for perceived NGO registration framework-related offences.

A petition, started by a citizen Simba Tembo three days ago targets to get 1 500 signatures from Zimbabweans.  After completion, it will be handed over to Mnangagwa.

“We petition Your Excellency to refuse to lend your signature to the Private Voluntary Organisations (PVOs) Amendment Bill H.B. 10 of 2021, which was passed by the Senate on February 2, 2023,” the petition read.

“As a listening President, an attribute you have constantly reminded us of, we hope and believe you will listen to the truths regarding what this kind of law will cost. The economic prejudice that the PVOs Amendment Bill will have on the country if passed into law cannot be overstated. The country stands to lose up to nearly US$1 billion in development support when the civil society sector is disrupted, resources which have made the difference between life and death for many citizens.”

“Your High Office is charged with signing into law; legislation that is citizen-centred, which embody the social contract espoused in the Constitution and that adhere to international law obligations. This proposed law is one whose blemish may be impossible to wash from your record.

“As Zimbabwe seeks re-engagement in the international arena; as Zimbabwe seeks to cast a new trajectory in its post-independent democratic project, signing a regressive law as the PVOs Amendment Bill will only amount to shooting ourselves in the foot, regarding the democratic gains we have scored thus far, and the goodwill that has mounted on the international scene.”

The petition recommends use of more constitutional and less disruptive ways to deal with alleged rogue NGOs.

Nyika Inovakwa NemaBeavers Ayo, Who Beat Cyclone Freddy By Constructing Dams At Zero Cost

By Isaac Jomora | What’s stopping Zimbabwe from “converting cyclone Freddy to electric energy”? What’s stopping government from building dams so that the rising floods can produce electric energy? Is it a problem of money? What’s complicated about building dams that even beavers do at no cost?

A story is told by the Facebook page, Architectural Construction Discovery over how beavers are better than humans. The page narrates as follows:

The beaver animal is a very skilled dam engineer, and it is born with these innate skills in building without the need to indoctrinate it from its parents, and evolutionists do not have the slightest explanation for the emergence of these instincts until today.

beavers. Pic: Architectural Construction Discovery

The beaver lives in a dwelling in the middle of the water with underground tunnels several meters long to enter, exit and ventilate to protect its young from predators And in order for this dwelling to remain stable, it must be built on stagnant water. Before building the dwelling, the beaver searches for a river and builds a dam in it to accumulate water and stop flowing, and spends months collecting wood, gravel, mud and building in an amazing way, and even when a runny occurs in the dam – which ranges in length Between one meter and 100 meters – and the possibility of its collapse, the beaver rushes to repair the leak immediately, and we should not neglect the anatomical side of the beaver, as it is endowed with very thick and sharp teeth resembling a carpenter’s chisel-shaped incisors and strong jaw muscles for cutting branches and digging the soil, and it has limbs equipped for swimming, and its body Covered with a thick layer of grease to resist the cold of water, and his ears, eyes and nose were made at one level and elevated so that he could swim and hide his body while keeping his eyes above the water to monitor predators, and he could hold his breath for 15 minutes while he was Sufficient time for excavation work or crossing waterways.

Met Dept Says Cyclone Freddy Claimed 2 Lives

Cyclone Freddy, which had been anticipated to cause havoc in the country and parts of southern Africa has killed two people and blown off several roofs in Chimanimani and Chipinge, the country’s Metrological Services Departments (MSD) has said.

Last week, government was forced to close schools in areas that were likely to be affected by the Cyclone to avoid loss of lives.

In neighbouring Mozambique, Cyclone Freddy hit the country on February 24 with winds that reached 113 kilometres per hour after making a landfall in the eastern city of Vilankulo where it caused destruction of infrastructure.

In Madagascar seven people died due to the cyclone, but it has weakened considerably and was a moderate tropical storm when it reached Mozambique on Friday, as well as Chimanimani and Chipinge in Zimbabwe.

In Zimbabwe, the two districts lost seven cattle, while two people were confirmed dead after being struck by lightning.

Some schools in both districts had their roofs blown off on Friday due to incessant rains and heavy winds.

Department of Civil Protection (DCP) deputy director in charge of response and operations, Farai Hokonya yesterday confirmed the deaths.

“We have received reports in Chimanimani, and I know there is something also in Chipinge. I’m still trying to get hold of those in Chipinge to verify the issue. We don’t have the names of the deceased, we only recorded the deaths. It’s unfortunate I’m on the highway driving,” Hokonya said.

MSD head of forecast, James Ngoma said the department was closely monitoring the situation adding that the public should not panic.

“Our warning category was on level one, which is not a panic warning. When we get to level eight and nine that’s when people can have that panic mode. Basically what I’m saying is that we are very safe.

“The areas that we had mentioned that were going to be affected by the cyclone were the south eastern parts of the country, Chipinge, Chimanimani, Chiredzi, Mwenezi, Beitbridge, Bikita, Zaka and Buhera,” he said.

“We never mentioned Harare, so people who are waiting for the cyclone to affect Harare, honestly we don’t know where they are getting that information from. We are closely monitoring the situation. The south-eastern parts today (yesterday) received 30mm of rain, and a few roofs have been blown off in Chipinge and Chimanimani.”

Chiwenga Former Aide Nails Marry

By- A Presidential Guard nurse has nailed Marry Mubaiwa in her alleged attempted murder trial case at the Harare magistrates courts.

The new details came out when the trial of Marry Mubaiwa, Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s estranged wife, commenced yesterday.

One of the witnesses, Warren Sibanda, a Presidential Guard nurse who accompanied the VP, narrated before Harare magistrate Florence Chakanyuka how Marry Mubaiwa intended to kill Chiwenga:

It was on July 31, 2019, when we went to China for further medical attention. While at the airport, there were two aeroplanes and the accused discovered that I was going to China, with the complainant, Major Muringi and Health deputy minister John Mangwiro. She caused a scene at the airport by refusing to board another plane back home.

She was shouting at us and the argument was quelled by the South African Police Services after being delayed by two hours.

He said on July 22, 2019, Chiwenga fell ill and an arrangement was made to airlift him to South Africa. Mangwiro was leading the team and overseeing everything. Sibanda added:

We were supposed to leave by 1830pm. We went to the airport and we noted there were two aeroplanes. We went into the same plane. We then went and arrived at Lanseria Airport in South Africa and I was given an order by Mangwiro to go straight to the hospital. The accused was directing us and we then found ourselves at the basement of Sheraton Hotel in Pretoria. I thought maybe we were at the hospital.

Mangwiro then told him that Mubaiwa, a former model, was directing the arrangements.

She allegedly told them that the rooms at the hotel were already booked. Sibanda added:

When the accused person got out of the room and went to the next room where her child was sleeping, the complainant called me asking why we booked him in a hotel room than to proceed to the hospital for his medication.

Sibanda said he told Mangwiro about the issue, and the next day, Chiwenga was taken by force to the hospital.

He said when they went to the hospital Chiwenga was put on IV fluids and they continued putting them and gave him paracetamol only.

Sibanda said after Chiwenga was assessed, he was referred to NetCare Hospital and placed in the intensive care unit.

He further alleged that when they took Chiwenga to the hospital, Marry Mubaiwa was shouting at everyone present.

Sibanda added that on the following day, a pipe was put inside Chiwenga’s rib cage to drain water from the lungs.

Sibanda said the next day, Mubaiwa arrived at the hospital saying she would bring a doctor called Bruce.

She reportedly went to the hospital at odd times and ordered security staff to go out.

On July 8, 2019, Sibanda said he asked security to bathe Chiwenga and wash his clothes.

Mubaiwa arrived with her doctor and they left.

On opening the door, I saw droplets of blood on the floor and some blood on his T-shirt. I asked the security staff and they told me that the complainant (Chiwenga) was about to leave the room, (but) then returned to his bed.

Chakanyuka postponed the trial for cross-examination of the witness to March 13.

Lawyer Pleads For Court Protection As Witness Turns Abusive

Top Harare lawyer Alec Muchadehama was forced to plead for court protection against controversial businessman Ken Sharpe’s aide, Tatiana Aleshina who had turned abusive after he handed her a torrid time during cross-examination.

Muchadehama was cross-examining Aleshina in an ongoing case where politician Tendai Biti is accused of verbally assaulting her at the Harare Magistrates court in November 2020.

During a session of cross-examination, Muchadehama pleaded with the courts to rein Aleshina after she refused to answer questions from the lawyer.

Aleshina declined to answer a number of questions relating to Sharpe’s company, Augur Investments before bursting in court calling the prosecuting process nonsense.

“No, am not able to represent Augur Investments and am here as an investor, I don’t want to seat in Court and listen to this nonsense.”

The Ukrainian woman who calls herself an investor has been in the country since 1997 and holds a Zimbabwean passport.

Following Muchadehama’s protest to Aleshina’s conduct, Magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti-Guwuriro told the Russian investor to retract her statement.

Aleshina’s temperament rose from the questions posed by Muchadehama which pertained to her businesses.

According to Muchadehama, the verbal assault charges his cleint is facing are intricately linked to a number of cases where Biti is representing companies that were allegedly defrauded by Augur Investiments OU and its associated subsidiaries.

“Your Worship, I do not want to answer to questions about Augur Investments. I do not have rights to talk about Augur Investments. I don’t know anything about it, I cannot discuss it, I have no authority to talk about it. I am not the director, CEO or shareholder, I have no authority to talk about it,” Aleshina said.

Aleshina, who is a close of Sharpe, is currently engulfed in a number of cases before courts where Biti is representing companies that are suing Augur Investments for fraud.

One of the companies being represented by Biti, Fairclot Investments, is suing Augur investments for duping them millions of dollars.

Fairclot was subcontracted to construct the airport road on behalf of Augur Investments before the later defaulted payments.

Initially the airport road construction project was said to have been fraudulently awarded to Augur Investments who in turn acquired construction services elsewhere due to lack of capacity.

Augur in turn went ahead and claimed over 700 hectares of land valued at US$52 million that was agreed on as part of payment by the Harare City Council (HCC).

Despite failing to meet the agreed terms in the airport road construction deal, Augur Investment went ahead claimed the land before parceling it out to its associated companies to avoid litigation.

“It is not surprising that the witness is refusing to answer my questions about Augur Investments OU, the cross examination relates to how the two link and relate.

“The questions I am asking about Augur are relevant to the case and I want to prove that the complainant is capitalising on the accused to get back to him for his role on representing companies that are suing the complainant,” Muchadehama said.

In cross examining Aleshina, Muchadehama questioned as COO of Augur if she knew about the shaddy deals her company is involved in.

“You said you are not involved in Augur Investments yet you approached Sekesai Makwavarara as an investor and you were representing Augur Investments OU to the City of Harare.

“So you are linked to Augur Investments OU and other creation companies?

“Can you confirm that you were party of the Harare Airport Road with City of Harare and Augur Investments. Are you aware that Augur did not develop Airport Road the contract it entered with City of Harare,” questioned Muchadehama.

Aleshina declined to answer the lawyer’s questions.

“I will not be able to answer questions which is not assault case. I am not representing Augur Investments OU and am not able to speak about it,” said Aleshina.

Muchadehama did not deter from prying response from the investor.

“Do you agree that West Properties did not buy the land independently.

“You are the one fronting all the companies were the accused person is representing his clients.

“Did you ever wrote any letter representing Augur Investments OU,” queried Muchadehama.

Aleshina again declined to answer

“I am not allowed to talk about Augur Investments OU and am refusing to answer,” said Aleshina.

After the botched agreement, reports by Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission and HCC recommended that Augur Investments forfeit the land to the local authorities, a submission that was not followed.

Cyclone Freddy Hits Chimanimani, Kills Two

Tropical Cyclone Freddy has killed two (2) people and blown off several roofs in Chimanimani and Chipinge provinces.

Cyclone Freddy reached Zimbabwe with a weakened intensity.

In Zimbabwe, the two districts lost seven cattle, while two people were confirmed dead after being struck by lightning.

Some schools in both districts had their roofs blown off on Friday due to incessant rains and heavy winds.

‘Embarrassed’ Businessman Chickens Out Of Pomona Billboard Case

HARARE – Businessman Ken Sharpe owned West Properties Private Limited has backed off and withdrawn a lawsuit it filed against Fairclot Investments Private Limited challenging the erection of a billboard which warned home-seekers against buying stands at one of its development sites in Pomona.

West Properties had sued Fairclot Investments and it’s directors, Alan Russell and Grant Russell for US$20 million citing damages for loss of business and profit.

Fairclot Investments erected a billboard along Borrowdale road to warn prospecting buyers and home seekers against acquiring residential stands at stand 654 Pomona Township.

Fairclot Investments and Sharpe previously entered into a contract with another company owned by Sharpe for the construction of Harare Airport Road before clashing over the latter’s failure to pay for work done.

Fairclot Investments took the matter to court demanding payment but were reportedly surprised when Sharpe took advantage of an earlier High Court ruling that declared the US dollar and Zimbabwe dollar 1:1.

After Sharpe failed to pay Fairclot, he gave away stand number 654 Pomona as security with the title deed for the land held in escrow by Coghlan, Welsh and Guest.

West Property has withdrew its lawsuit against Fairclot Investments with cost.

Did Marry Try To Kill VP In SA?

Marry Mubaiwa allegedly diverted the entourage that accompanied Vice President Constantino Chiwenga to seek medical attention in South Africa to a hotel instead of going straight to hospital upon their arrival, as a court in Harare heard yesterday.

Mubaiwa allegedly instructed the security team accompanying VP Chiwenga to South Africa that he wanted to rest before taking him to hospital.

It then took the security team to use force to take him out of the hotel on the night of the following day, a court heard.

Warrant Officer Warren Sibanda, a nurse at Presidential Guard headquarters hospital, made the revelations while testifying as a State witness in a matter Mubaiwa is charged with attempted murder.

Mubaiwa allegedly tried to kill VP Chiwenga at a time he was seeking medical treatment in South Africa.

She denied the charges when her trial opened before Harare regional magistrate Mrs Feresi Chakanyuka.

“When we got to the Sheraton Hotel in Pretoria, we entered through the basement. I thought I was at the hospital.

“I asked my superiors who told me that it was a directive from the accused who said the complainant wanted to rest. The rooms were already booked,” he said. Warrant Officer Sibanda told the court that Vice President Chiwenga asked him why they had taken him to a hotel instead of hospital, but he could not reply.

He told the court that he then went to inform the deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr John Mangwiro, about the Vice President’s concerns.

“After our arrival, the accused went to check on her child in another room and the complainant called me and asked me why we had taken him to the hotel instead of the hospital.

“I could not respond and I went to my superiors. Dr Mangwiro told me that the accused had indicated that the complainant wanted to rest.

“They said she was in control and there was nothing we could do. We spent the night and the following day at the hotel. Then at night we then went to hospital,” Warrant Officer Sibanda said.

He said Mubaiwa shouted at the security team on the evening they wanted to take the Vice President to hospital saying they were disturbing him.

Warrant Officer Sibanda said they had to use force to take him out of the hotel.

“Accused was shouting at everyone saying we were disturbing the complainant who wanted to rest. Force had to be used to take the complainant to hospital,” he said.

Warrant Officer Sibanda told the court that the Vice President did not resist when they wanted to take him to hospital.

He said Mubaiwa remained sleeping at the hotel while they took the Vice President to hospital.

Warrant Officer Sibanda said he provided basic nursing care for the two months the VP stayed in hospital.

He said he never slept at the hotel during the time of their stay in South Africa.

“Accused came to the hospital on June 24. I was doing basic nursing care.

“For the two months I was always by his bedside and never been to the hotel,” Warrant Officer Sibanda said.

He also told the court that Mubaiwa would only visit the Vice President during the night and was always accompanied by one Dr Bruce.

“They would seek privacy. We would then go out of the room,” Warrant officer Sibanda said.

He said one day he asked for permission to go and wash the Vice President’s clothes and only to return to be told that the security team had an altercation with Mubaiwa.

“When I returned, I saw the security team and Nyoni, who was part of security, said they had an altercation with the accused. I then noticed blood stains on the door and the complainant’s T-shirt.

“When I left him, he was in bed. I may not know what had happened,” Warrant officer Sibanda said.

He told the court that after the incident, they started refusing to give Mubaiwa and Dr Bruce exclusive privacy with the Vice President.

Warrant Officer Sibanda said Mubaiwa also delayed Vice President Chiwenga’s flight from South Africa to China where he wanted to seek further treatment.

The matter continues on March 13 when Warrant Officer Sibanda will be cross-examined by Mubaiwa’s lawyer.

Cyclone Freddy Kills Shona Man

The weakened Tropical Storm Freddy has killed one person, damaged houses and sugarcane plantations in various parts of the country since Saturday.
Freddy arrived in the Mozambique channel, on February 22 and remained in the channel for two days, before making landfall on the Mozambique coast around Maxixe (about 400km from the south eastern border of Zimbabwe) last Friday.

Due to the distance, Freddy failed to make it to Zimbabwe as anticipated on February 24.

In a statement yesterday, the Department of Civil Protection in the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works said in light of the anticipated cyclone, which later became a storm, civil protection organisations, provinces and development partners, were on high alert.

Provincial and district Command Centres in the districts likely to be affected were manned 24 hours.

The DCP said they continue to receive updates from provinces and districts that were most likely to be affected by Freddy.

In Mazowe District of Mashonaland Central Province, an eight classroom block had its roof blown off by strong winds at Musarara Primary School in Ward 9.

In Ward 11, five houses had their roofs blown off and furniture damaged.

In Shamva urban, a heavy wind storm was witnessed on Sunday around 2pm, and uprooted a Mukuyu tree at Cross junction along Chakonda Road, resulting in the death of a 24-year-old man.

Mashonaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe has identified the deceased as Roberto Mukanwa, of Mukanwa Village under Chief Bushu. Mukanwa, who was a tout along the Shamva-Chakonda Road, had taken shelter under a makeshift shade that was under the Mukuyu tree.

Insp Mundembe said the body was retrieved and taken to Shamva Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.

The DCP said in Manicaland Province, Chipinge District received heavy rains and strong winds on Sunday resulting in roofs of staff houses being blown off at Simudzai Primary School in Chipinge and Checheche Primary School in Chisumbanje.

In Masvingo Province’s Bikita District, one thatched hut was struck by lightning on Saturday in Kutsirai Village, while in Zaka District’s Marimira Village, Ward 13, “a house was completely destroyed by rainfall on February 26, 2023”.

In Chiredzi District’s Ward 19, Hippo Valley Estates, sugarcane plantations “were extensively damaged”, said the DCP.

Added the DCP: “The country is still in the cyclone season and is also prone to other extreme weather events, hence, it is imperative that all national and sub-national structures remain vigilant in the same spirit that was prevailing in preparation for Cyclone Freddy.

“Given the unpredictable nature of Tropical Storm Freddy in the ensuing days after the original forecast regarding its trajectory, the department in collaboration with MSD (Meteorological Services Department) and other stakeholders has scheduled for a mission to give feedback to the nation and particularly communities.

“This will build confidence in future early warning programmes, alerts amongst the citizens.”

Explaining the weakening of Freddy, the MSD said cyclones are weakened by two main factors which are; frictional surfaces due to mountains and other land objects that disturb the smooth flow of winds within the system, and lack of moisture especially when outside the ocean waters.

The delays by Freddy to make a landfall in Mozambique saw it weakening its magnitude and reducing its severity, hence the delays in reaching Zimbabwe on February 24 as initially projected.

In its update on Saturday, the MSD said the weakened Freddy was expected to last until today.-state media

Engineering Company Quarels With Kids’ School

A Harare-based engineering company and Lukhanyiso Primary School in Bulawayo are in a stand-off with the former refusing to release a 66-seater bus bought by the school.

Willovale Vehicle Body Engineering wants the school authorities to issue a public apology for having claimed that the company sold them a second-hand bus as a brand new vehicle.

The dispute resulted in the then headmaster Mr Thintitha Mpofu and School Development Committee Mr Phethengani Nyoni being arrested after they were reported to the police by parents.

Following the duo’s arrest, parents also set up an ad hoc committee chaired by Mzilikazi district schools inspector Ms Zanele Muyambo.

In both instances, Messrs Mpofu and Nyoni were cleared. However, Willovale Vehicle Body Engineering felt that their image was tarnished following the unsubstantiated allegations.

On Friday parents met school authorities and resolved that the school should take delivery of the bus which was returned to the company in 2019.

The company has however said it can only deliver the bus after the parents make a public apology.

Company managing director Mr Silvester Matambo said the bus had a 36 months guarantee just like all buses sold to other schools and institutions.

He said the bus will not leave their workshop until there is a written apology from the school.

“One thing to note is that the bus had a guarantee of 36 months. The problem with Lukhanyiso was that parents were misled by someone in the school management that some bus funds were embezzled leading to internal squabbles,” said Mr Matambo.

He said when the bus was delivered to the company in March 2019 for routine servicing, the company was later informed that the parents no longer wanted the bus.

“The bus has been parked at our workshop since that time. We need a written apology from the SDC for us to release the bus,” said Mr Matambo.

He said their reputation was at stake following the baseless allegations.

“The social media was abuzz with stories which tarnished our image following this dispute with the school authorities,” said Mr Matambo.

He said when the school bought the bus for $120 000, the company made it clear that it was a refurbished vehicle not a brand new one. -state media

Fees Demo Successful

Students at the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) yesterday boycotted lectures in a protest that saw the institution rescinding last week’s decision to increase tuition fees by more than 100 percent.

The students started mobilising each other using social media platforms demanding that the university reverts to last semester’s fee structure.

Those who spoke to Chronicle said they were shocked last week to learn that the university was now demanding up to US$770 from around US$320 for under graduate programmes, and the money was said to be payable in local currency at the prevailing official exchange rate.

At about 8AM yesterday, students forcibly closed one of the entrances at Nust in a bid to stop anyone from accessing the university. The NUST Students’ Representative council (SRC) led the protest and sent around fliers detailing their grievances and why lectures should be aborted. When a Chronicle news crew arrived at the university, SRC members were standing by the pedestrian gate turning away students. The institution called the anti-riot police who quickly dispersed the students.

While some SRC members were urging students to boycott lectures, the other members were said to be involved in meeting with Nust administrators.

Later on, in a video addressed to students circulating on social media platforms, Nust SRC president Muziwenkosi Moyo said they had forced the university to drop the new fees structure.

“We have won. The draconian fees have been reduced. We would love to thank you all who stood in solidarity with us in the stay away,” he said.

In a press statement which was released later in the day, Moyo said the university had pegged the fees in US dollar to preserve its value.

He said students could however pay the fees using local currency.

“We want to update you on the recent developments concerning the call by the SRC for students to stay away from university premises. After a meeting with university management, we are pleased to announce that we have reached favourable resolutions that are pro-student,” he said.

“We are happy to inform you that the recently hiked fees of US$720 have been revoked and removed from your portals. Students will now continue to pay the preset ZWL fees structure adopted in September 2022.”

Moyo encouraged students to ensure that they are registered.

He said it is important for university fees to be affordable so that no one is deprived of the opportunity to learn.

Asked via written questions why the university had reversed the decision to increase fees, Nust director of communication and marketing Mr Thabani Mpofu did not provide any answers but said the matter had been resolved and students were back in lectures.

“The situation on campus is back to normal,” said Mr Mpofu.

He said students were sent notices to their portals indicating varying fee increases, depending on one’s faculty.

Students in the faculty of medicine were the hardest hit as the fee went from around US$320 to US$770.

In the faculty of sciences and engineering the fees was now pegged at US$720.

Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Permanent Secretary Professor Fanuel Tagwira said following morning disturbances at Nust, he engaged the university to understand the source of the problem.

He said the university told him that the fees had been increased through an error.

“The university told me no fees changes had been made. They said someone punched in the wrong numbers to students’ portals, however it has now been rectified,” said Prof Tagwira.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Insp Abednico Ncube said his office had not received the report regarding the incident that resulted in police being called to Nust to restore order.-state media

Common Challenges Affecting Small Scale Miners

By A Correspondent| Lack of sound sponsorship and dearth of basic empowerment skills are the main problems affecting artisanal miners.

Lack of insurance is another factor affecting miners.

In a bid to empower and equip miners with essential skills, Three Wingers Enterprises, a Zimbabwean company that focuses on mining consultancy, has embarked on offering theoretical and practical assistance to miners.

See presentation below:

SMART MINING OR SPONSORSHIP

Artisanal mining is sustained by what is commonly called sponsorship, sponsors bring money , food , diesel , explosives , headgears and expertise.

They either bring all or one of them to help miner owner and workers achieve what they couldn’t do on their own .

Bringing all increases risks of huge loses but decreases chances of losing when you indeed make money . Basically sponsorship is the unrecognised life blood of Artisanal mining directly or indirectly. It ranges from formal agreements, informal written to equipment hire loan , truck loan , milling loan even informal cash loan of mouth watering amounts passed within two parties without any writing on paper .

Those that are usually paid back come with huge profits of over 100% those who are not paid back usually disappear for ever .

We once wanted to do a video documentary of how it disappear or multiple by giving a full recorded mining activity from day one unfortunately resources limited us . In these series we will first list in this article reasons why some of the sponsorship monies are not paid back then cover in detail explain how it works .
REASONS FOR FAILURE TO PAY BACK SPONSORSHIP IN EXACT ORDER
1 under sponsorship
2 lack of knowledge of Artisanal mining
3 improper monitoring tools
4 lack of insurance ( guarantee)
5 hitting a gold dry spell
6 failing to include all parties when signing.

1 UNDER SPONSOR
This is a situation whereby you sponsor with insufficient funds and leave key areas of the transaction to make it a success unattended risking low returns or encouraging other co-sponsors to be included without your knowledge to come in with better understanding of mining thereby taking you out of the picture.
Before you sponsor ask questions that would clearly paint the picture of exactly how much is the total cost of the transaction who covers what and what is expected of you how long it will take ( always multiply their estimated time by 3 ) . Sometimes what the miner owner needs is money for personal use let that be spelled out clearly know what you are getting into most things used at the mine are found in all major towns in Zimbabwe. Inorder to reduce risks look for a mining consultancy company to do analysis and agreements writing for you at a fee .

One Woman Dies Every Two Minutes During Pregnancy

Cyclone Freddy Damages Buildings In Chipinge, Chimanimani

By- Tropical Storm Freddy has destroyed buildings in Chimanimani and Chipinge districts.

Manica Post also reports that two people and seven cattle were struck by lightning following incessant rains being received across the country at the weekend.

This comes at a time when the Civil Protection Committee (CPU) has activated its systems in preparation for any eventualities in the wake of the envisioned tropical storm.
Heavy rains and adverse weather conditions are expected in most areas around Manicaland Province after Tropical Storm Freddy made a landfall in Mozambique and is expected to induce more wet and harsh weather conditions in some parts of the country, Manicaland included.
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has suspended today (Friday)’s lessons in areas that are likely to be affected.
Part of the circular reads: “In view of the impending heavy rains, all institutions providing primary and secondary education are advised that localised flash floods caused by Tropical Storm Freddy are probable in parts of Manicaland, Masvingo, Matabeleland South, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland Central provinces as well as Harare Metropolitan Province.
“The above-named areas have been placed on high alert and as a result of this extreme weather likelihood, no learners are to attend school or face-to-face instruction on Friday, February 24, 2023.
“Boarders are to remain in their hostels and continue with their studies via alternative learning modes from the confines of a safe environment. Heads of schools in these provinces are advised to exercise caution by notifying day learners not to attend school on Friday or to attempt to cross any flooded rivers.”
Ministry of Local Government and Public Works also chipped in and said: “The Department of Civil Protection is urging citizens to be on high alert of forecasted Severe Tropical Storm Freddy. The spinning cloud-bands of the severe Tropical Storm Freddy are anticipated to cause localised heavy rains (above 65mm), and strong winds in districts such as Chimanimani, Chipinge, Chiredzi, Mwenezi, Beitbridge, Chivi, Masvingo Rural, Zaka and Bikita.
“Tropical Strom Freddy is, however, expected to weaken from Saturday. We call on all relevant stakeholders and traditional leaders to step up efforts to disseminate information to their various communities, in particular all Manicaland, Masvingo and Matabeleland South provinces where heavy rains accompanied by strong winds are expected.
“We urge the citizens to take heed of the Meteorological Services Department alerts as they continue monitoring the unfolding situation. Citizens should be on the watch for possible flooding, avoid crossing flooded rivers or streams, stay indoors and avoid artisanal mining on shacky grounds during the period. Citizens living in low-lying area also encouraged to move to high ground.”
Chipinge District Development Coordinator (DDC), Mr William Mashava said one person and seven cattle were struck by lightning, while two schools buildings had their roofs blown off in the district.
“From the rains that have been received so far, some classroom blocks have had their roofs blown off. About eight houses had their roof blown off at Chinyamukwakwa, Vheneka and Chisumbanje areas. In Ward 27, seven beasts that were struck by lightning,” he said.
Mr Mashava said they have activated CPU systems in the district and development partners have come in handy in their disaster preparedness initiatives.
“We are preparing for any eventuality in the district that might come as a result of the effects of Tropical Storm Freddy. In almost every ward, we have at least two schools that were reserved for possible evacuation. We have received immense support from development partners. Some have donated their vehicles that will be on standby. Some have provided chainsaws, based on the past experiences whereby we could not reach out to some areas after roads were blocked by trees.
“Some chipped in with whistles, megaphones, ropes and other non-food items. Sixty tents have already been delivered to Tongogara Refugees Camp. The Meteorological Services Department in conjunction with the Ministry of Publicity, Information and Broadcasting Services and PLAN will be helping with communication throughout the process,” he said.
Chimanimani DDC, Mr Joseph Manyurapasi confirmed that a classroom block had its roof blown off at Mataa Primary.
Mr Manyurapasi also confirmed the death of a Chimanimani villager who was struck by lightning.
“So far, we have received a report at Mataa Primary School where a classroom block had its roof blown off. We also have a report of a person who was killed by lightning on Tuesday in Chief Mutambara’s area,” he said.
In Mutasa, acting DDC, Mrs Caroline Tichawangana said the CPU is on high alert and no loss of lives and property has so far been reported in the district.
“So far we have not recorded any rainfall related damages. It is raining in most parts of the district and heavy rains are being reported in Honde Valley and areas surrounding DC.
“We have alerted our communities of the impending Tropical Storm Freddy through various platforms and we have identified 93 evacuation centres across the district. We have also activated our district command centre with members on standby to respond to any emergencies,” said Mrs Tichawangana.
Buhera DDC, Mr Freeman Maviza said: “All communities have been alerted of the impending storm. Evacuation centres have been established in hot spot areas.”
Nyanga DDC, Mr Nyashadzashe Zindove said: “We are always alert and this time we have activated our CPU in the district. So far we have not received reports on any damages and loss of life.”
Cyclone Idai survivor, Mr Givemore Muzhambi said his house in Ngangu Township Extension has been flooded by the incessant rains being received in Chimanimani since last week.
“We are frightened. I have a family of eight and during the last cyclone disaster, my house was destroyed while we were sleeping inside. We were all injured and that trauma is coming back to haunt us. We are praying that nothing happens,” he said.
Mr Freddy Makuyana said he is planning to leave Chimanimani for Mutare with his family this weekend and return after the anticipated tropical storm.
“A good number of people have actually left Ngangu Township for higher ground and other areas. We are doing this because we lost a lot of friends and relatives during Cyclone Idai. We are alert and were told to rush to evacuation centres when disaster strikes,” he said.
Ms Prudence Mukwayo said they are well prepared for the tropical storm.
“Unlike in the past, we are adequately prepared, thanks to the information being disseminated by our community radio stations. We have the station and cyclone monitors telling us to be always alert and I believe this will save lives and property,” she said.

Aspiring US President Vows To Cut Aid To Zimbabwe

United States of America’s former Governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley has threatened to cut aid to Zimbabwe, Belarus and Pakistan because of their association with China and Russia.

Haley is running to become the next President of the United States of America under the Republican ticket and is due to battle it out with her former boss Donald Trump.

“Belarus, in the pocket of Russia.

Zimbabwe, in the pocket of China.

Pakistan, in the pocket of China.

Cut all their aid,” tweeted Hiley.

Meanwhile, Haley’s tweet attracted heavy criticism with former Zimbabwe cabinet minister Professor Jonathan Moyo reminding her that Harare does not get any aid from the US government.

“You are crazy. You mean you don’t know that Zimbabwe does not get any aid from Uncle Sam save for what your predatory government and its ilk call “humanitarian aid” given to its regime change NGOs? And you wanna be US President? Come on. Wakeup. China is the new global normal!,” said Moyo.

Other Zimbabweans joined in, telling Haley off while others said Harare did not need aid from the US.

Mnangagwa Aide In US$400K NSSA Corruption

By- Public Service, Labour, and Social Welfare minister Paul Mavima has been accused of instructing the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) to buy a house in Borrowdale.

It is alleged that while the house in Quinnington, Borrowdale, Harare was valued at US$350 000, NSSA paid US$400 000 and eventually sold the house to Mavima before the property could be entered into its books.

The NewsHawks report that the property deal was done secretly on behalf of Mavima.

Allegations:

i). It is alleged that Mavima identified the property and asked NSSA to buy and keep it for him while he awaited disbursement of his US$500 000 housing allowance given to each cabinet minister.

ii). The deal came to light when NSSA’s acting general manager, Charles Shava, ordered deputy director of audit, Andrew Nyakonda, on 16 February to conduct an investigation into the sale of the Borrowdale house and the purchase of a Kariba Lodge for US$244 000.

iii). The deal and the Kariba Lodge transactions were driven by NSsA investments and properties director Brian Murewa, who is said to have jumped the border into South Africa.

The NewsHwaks report that Shava who replaced suspended general manager, Arthur Manase, is being attacked over the audit he ordered.

On December 29, Paul Mavima wrote to NSSA board chairperson Percy Toriro recommending Agnes Masiiwa to replace Shava.

Vice president Constantino Chowenga, the acting president then, reversed Masiiwa’s appointment, saying it violated corporate governance.

NSSA general manager Arthur Manase was suspended in July 2022 and senior executives were supposed to be appointed on a rotational basis to fill the position in an acting capacity.

NSSA also bought a property in Kariba valued at US$220 000. The property was bought for US$215 000 after negotiations, but US$244 000 was paid. This means US$29 000 was siphoned.
