Woman Stalks Hubby’s Lover

By A Correspondent- A Harare woman has warned her husbɑnd’s girlfriǝnd to stay away from him.

Alice Kundishona took her l0ver’s wife, Rumbidzai Masiringota, to court accusing her of disturbing her peace by insulting, threatening and stalking her.

Magistrate Tamara Chibindi granted Alice’s application.

She threatens and insults me every time she comes across me. She is also sending people to stalk me and I don’t like it,” she said.

Responding to Alice’s accusations, Rumbidzai opposed the application, stating that Alice should instead stay away from her husbɑnd.

I went to her and warned her to stay away from my husbɑnd after finding out that she was the one disturbing my mɑrriɑgǝ and peace.

“We stay in the same neighbourhood and she does this to provoke me,” she said.

Magistrate Chibindi told Rumbidzai that she is committing an offence and should approach her husbɑnd and not the girlfriǝnd.

Free Wiwa, Jail Wadyajena

CCC Namibia speaks strongly on impunity: Free innocent Wiwa and imprison the corrupt Wadyajena!

08 February 2023

It is beyond Satanism for the purported independent judiciary to continue punishing the revolutionary lamb “Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala” whilst the real criminals are enriching themselves using state apparatus as springboards for the primitive accumulation of national resources! Namibia district castigates the illegal removal on remand to ZANU-PF serial looters represented by Gokwe Mp, Mayor Wadyajena who robbed the state of more than 5 000 000US$ (5m+ US$) belonging to COTCO.

His removal on remand came at an ugly juncture when our diligent Zengeza West Mp and Lawyer, Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala has been caged at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison for more than seven months on concocted charges. As a district that subscribes to the rule of law and constitutionalism, we demand an abrupt end to this weaponization of the law by the clueless and sadist regime. Our fight is anchored on freedom, equality, and justice hence we demand freedom for Hon Job Sikhala. It is unacceptable to allow the continued incarceration of the innocent when the real criminals are walking scot-free.

Mayor Wadyajena looted a considerable amount of money but it seems those who are affiliated with the corrupt and politically inept party are immune to prosecution. Real thieves such as Obadiah Moyo, Prisca Mupfumira, Wicknell Chivayo, Ignatius Chombo, and Henrieta Rushwaya merely to mention a few amassed ill-gotten wealth from the state with impunity, which must be resisted with a double measure. We audibly advocate for the independence of the judiciary, all citizens should be treated equally before the law regardless of their political convictions.

It is now imperative that Zimbabweans take it upon themselves to peacefully confront the political ills and predispositions in our captured courts. Hon Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala deserves his ultimate freedom because it is not a crime to demand justice for Moreblessing Ali. It is legal for any officer of the court to represent his or her clients without fear of persecution by prosecution. Wiwa has languished in jail for speaking out against the state-sponsored torture, abductions, and enforced disappearances of those who speak the truth to power and criticizing ZANUPF shenanigans.

Namibia district is cobra-headed on the astronomical levels of state capture of the judiciary and all other state institutions in the motherland. Efforts to demand the immediate release of all prisoners of conscience are now compulsory for all and sundry since Hon Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala was denied his constitutional right to bail several times. “We can’t afford to have laws for ZANU-PF goons and laws for Citizens Coalition For Change subscribers. All Zimbabweans must be treated equally before the law. CCC interim Vice-chairperson deserves his freedom. His Wife and children have missed him since the 14th of June 2022!”, fumed the interim chairperson for CCC Namibia Rundu Branch, Simbarashe Ndoda.

Let’s all unite against this lawfare! ZANU PF must discontinue its insatiable appetite to deter social democrats through the unconstitutional use of long pre-trial detentions, arbitrary arrests, selective application of the law, and intimidation of vulnerable villagers in the countryside ahead of the July harmonized elections. Namibia district urges champions to embrace dangerous freedom against peaceful slavery and incessant impunity on the ZANUPF perpetrators of belly politics of plunder and self-aggrandizement.

On another note, the vibrant interim Secretary General for the CCC Namibia Rundu branch, Dr. Lawrence Chiduku encouraged all social democrats to give material and financial support to the recently launched “REAP”, (Register, Elect and Protect the vote plus the voter) a sound youth initiative that encourages citizens to register, vote and protect the vote and the voter. Namibia applauds the efforts invested into the struggle by the millennial generation championed by the energetic and diligent Youth Taskforce Commander, Takudzwa Ngadziore, Spokesperson Stephen Sarkozy Chuma, and Womberai Nhende only to mention a few.

Defending the vote and the voter becomes the only panacea to social, economic, and political justice in the motherland. Let’s register to vote against the impunity of ZANU-PF corrupters and thugs who have taken too much for the owner to ignore. Citizens must amplify their revolutionary voices demanding JUSTICE, EQUALITY, and FREEDOM for Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala as well as all political prisoners. Namibia district reiterates that Zimbabwe is not ZANUPF’s private property, even CCC members are bonafide residents hence they deserve respect and honor. We demand free, fair, credible, and unfettered elections in Zimbabwe.

Court Acquits Rushinga Man Arrested For Criticising Mnangagwa

A Rushinga man is now a free man after authorities opted to withdraw criminal charges against him, which had emanated from allegations that he had criticised President Emmerson Mnangagwa for boasting that Zimbabwe had the strongest currency in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

The 44 year-old Robert Zakeyo of Rushinga in Mashonaland Central province, had been scheduled to stand trial at Bindura Magistrates Court on 31 January 2023 on charges of contravening section 33 (2)(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

Zakeyo, who was represented by Gift Mtisi of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, was to stand trial after the National Prosecuting Authority Acting Prosecutor-General Nelson Mutsonziwa, in November 2022, issued a Certificate of Authority to Prosecute.

Zakeyo, who is an entrepreneur at Rushinga Business Centre and who had been out of prison custody on bail, was arrested on 3 May 2020 after he was accused of posting a video on 1 May 2020 on a WhatsApp group called Rushinga Residents of President Mnangagwa issuing a press statement in relation to the strength of the local bond notes
currency.

Prosecutors claimed that in the same video clip, there also appeared a lady who was dressed in opposition MDC Alliance party regalia uttering the word “musatanyoko” in vernacular purporting as if the lady was rubbishing President Mnangagwa’s sentiments on the competitiveness of Zimbabwe’s currency.

This reportedly incensed Author Chinyoka, the Acting Coordinator for the ruling ZANU PF party in Rushinga, who was the complainant in the matter, after he came across the messages while browsing through Rushinga Residents WhatsApp Group.

But Zakeyo is now a free man after prosecutors on Tuesday 31 January 2023 withdrew charges against him before plea.

Zakeyo is among dozens of people, who have been arrested since 2017, when President Mnangagwa seized power from the late Robert Mugabe, and charged with insulting or undermining the authority of the President.

In most cases, human rights defenders and ordinary citizens are targeted for expressing themselves on matters to do with or connected with the President.

Lawyers End Horrific Detention Of Chiadzwa Villagers

Mutare Magistrates court has ended the horrible detention of more than 10 Chiadzwa villagers in Manicaland province, who were subjected to horrendous torture and assault, when they were arrested recently by a joint crack team of Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers and members of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA).

The 11 Chiadzwa villagers namely Daniel Nyazika, Midia Nyazika, Tinashe Nyazika, Mike Nyazika, Gift Nyazika, Crispen Mashande, Neyemai Chibuwe, Manuel Zvirimumoyo, Darlington Mwarumba, Albert Mudzimwa and Michel Chidzungu of Chingome village under Chief Marange in Manicaland province, were arrested by ZRP officers and ZNA members stationed at Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company on Sunday 15 January 2023 at Nyazika Bottle Store.

They were charged with defeating or obstructing the course of justice as defined in section 184(1)(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act for allegedly causing the escape of 32 people, who were accused of being illegal diamond panners and who had been arrested in a liquor retail shop.

The Chiadzwa villagers appeared before Mutare Magistrate Richard Ramaboea on Wednesday 18 January 2023 after spending time in detention first at Diamond Police Base and later on at Bambazonke Police Station, where they spent two nights.

During their initial remand appearance, prosecutors told Magistrate Ramaboea that the 11 villagers teamed up and challenged members of the Joint Operations Committee (JOC) comprising of ZRP officers and ZNA members, who were executing an operation to secure diamond fields.

Representing the villagers, Peggy Tavagadza and Kelvin Kabaya of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, complained before Magistrate Ramaboea that their clients were heavily assaulted upon arrest by ZRP officers and ZNA members, who caused extensive damage to doors of the liquor shop and also smashed some vehicle windscreens.

The villagers, Tavagadza and Kabaya said, were also over-detained beyond 48 hours before being brought to court for their initial remand proceedings and were denied access to medical facilities for treatment of injuries sustained from the assault by law enforcement agents.

In response, Magistrate Ramaboea ordered the State represented by Chris Munyukwi to investigate the villagers’ complaints against ZRP and ZNA and to submit a report to him on 8 February 2023, when they return to court.

Attempted Murder Charges For Entumbane Woman

By A Correspondent- A 37 year old Bulawayo woman faces attempted murder charges after she allegedly poured some boiling water on her husbɑnd during a domestic dispute at the family home in Entumbane suburb.

For the alleged offence, Chipo Mvundura Sibanda appeared before Bulawayo Regional Magistrate Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze at Western Commonage Court and was remanded in custody.

Court heard recently that Sibanda severely scalded Kenneth Jeti, 45, with boiling water when the latter questioned his wife on where she had spent the day.

According to court papers, the altercation happened on the 30th of January 2023 at around 0520 hours.

The accused person became violent and took boiling water and poured it on the complainant’s body. The complainant was referred to Mpilo for medical examinations,” reads the court papers in part.

Zim Govt Using Repressive Laws To Bar Nurses From Seeking Greener Pastures

With a salary worth the equivalent of less than $100 a month, Agnes Masarira can’t afford to buy lunch at the hospital in Zimbabwe where she works as a nurse. She dreams of a nursing job in Canada, but she cannot emigrate without key documents that the Zimbabwean authorities refuse to provide.

It’s a story happening all over Zimbabwe. Nurses know there are opportunities in countries like Canada and Britain that suffer from chronic shortages of health workers. Many are desperate to emigrate. Zimbabwe’s authoritarian government, however, makes it almost impossible for most to leave.

“It’s like I’m a slave,” said Ms. Masarira, 28, who works at a government hospital in Masvingo province. “I have no house, no car and not enough to eat, yet I’m considered employed. I live with my brother. I can only afford second-hand clothes. My child has to watch me struggling every day.”

Like other nurses in Zimbabwe, she cannot apply for international jobs without an official copy of her nursing diploma and a verification letter from the government – neither of which is available.

For years she has visited Health Ministry offices to request the documents. Each time she was told that the officials who must sign the documents were unavailable. One official asked for a bribe of US$200 to arrange her diploma, but she could not afford it. “Where do I get that amount when I earn less than that?” she asked.

Canada has been enduring a shortage of nurses for years. British Columbia alone was reported to have more than 5,300 unfilled positions in the nursing sector late last year. Governments have tried to recruit foreign-trained nurses to fill the gap, but countries such as Zimbabwe do not make it easy.

While the Zimbabwean government has never officially explained the restrictions on the documents that nurses need, it is believed to be an attempt to halt the exodus of health workers. More than 4,000 health workers, including about 2,600 nurses, left the country in 2021 and 2022.

The exodus is a reflection of Zimbabwe’s collapsing economy, largely because of mismanagement by the authoritarian state. Despite government promises to raise the salaries of health workers, their wages remain at poverty level – and Zimbabwe has one of the world’s highest inflation rates.

Instead of boosting wages, the government is using repressive controls to prevent health workers from fighting back or leaving the country. After doctors and nurses went on a week-long strike to seek higher wages last year, the government introduced a law this month to prohibit any labour action of more than three days.

The government also exploits the desperation of the nurses by imposing higher fees for the documents they require. Last year it doubled the application fee for verification letters to US$300 from US$150. This has deterred nurses from emigrating – but in practice the letters have become almost impossible to obtain anyway, even when nurses are able to pay the fee.

“It’s a human-rights abuse against the suffering nurses,” said Setfree Mafukidze, a Zimbabwean nurse who emigrated to Britain in 2020 when the restrictions were not as onerous.

“People are being tied down by the government. It leads to corruption. Some officials are cashing in on bribes from desperate nurses. The danger is that we’re going to have a group of very disgruntled nurses in hospitals and clinics, which is very dangerous for patients.”

Mateline Dube, a 34-year-old nurse at a government hospital in Zimbabwe’s capital Harare, said she would like to work in Canada but cannot afford the US$300 fee for a verification letter. She doesn’t know how to get the other required document, her diploma certificate, from the Health Ministry, and she doesn’t have enough money to pay for a bribe.

With a salary of about $135 a month, she struggles to pay for food and rent. She had to take her child out of school because she could not afford the school fees. At work, unable to afford lunch, she sometimes has to get food from patients.

“I’m just living from hand to mouth,” she told The Globe and Mail.

“Often I have to walk to work, about four kilometres, because I don’t have money for transport. Sometimes, with my nursing uniform on, I have to beg for transport from motorists, but that’s dehumanizing and embarrassing for me. That’s why I want to leave this country.”

Nelisiwe Sibanda, a 36-year-old nurse in a government hospital in Harare, paid US$300 for a verification letter last year but never received the letter. One official told her that she would never get the documents. Her salary is only about $160 a month and she struggles to pay for food, rent and bus fare.

“I’ve become a burden to my friends and relatives, since I’m asking them for financial help every month,” she said.

“I’m tired of this now. I went into a shop to buy a packet of cereal porridge and it cost US$3. I can’t afford that. I’m very angry at the authorities for blocking my dream to leave this country.”

Dembare Fires Executives Over Signing-on Fees Scandal

Premier Soccer League giants have fired three executive committee members amid reports that they were implicated in a players’ signing-on fees scandal.

The axe fell on treasurer Moses Chikwariro, committee member for development Francis Madzinga and club spokesperson Tinashe Farawo.

While the club described the dismissals as strategic changes ahead of the 2023 soccer season, sources said the trio was implicated in a scam involving players’ signing-on fees.

Meanwhile, Beadle Musa Gwasira has been appointed treasurer.

Clemence Chimbare has been roped as committee member responsible for development.

The board said the spokesperson’s portfolio remains vacant for now, with the secretariat being responsible for the duties until a new appointment is made.

“The Dynamos Football Club board, in line with the Strategic Plan 2023-25, has restructured the Dynamos Football Club executive committee with immediate effect,” the club said in a statement yesterday.

“The revamped executive committee is as follows: Chairman: Mr Moses Maunganidze; Vice-chairman: Mr Vincent Chawonza; Secretary-general: Mr Webster Marechera; Treasurer: Mr Beadle Musa Gwasira; Committee member responsible for development: Mr Clemence Chimbare.

“Meanwhile, the club’s former treasurer Mr Moses Chikwariro, (and) committee member for development Mr Francis Madzinga have been replaced by Messrs Gwasira and Chimbare, respectively.

“The position of committee member for communication and marketing previously held by Mr Tinashe Farawo will now be a function of the secretariat and an appointment to that effect will be confirmed soon by the club.

“The board would like to thank Messrs Chikwariro, Madzinga and Farawo for the services they have rendered to the club to date. The board would like to wish the new-look executive committee success in 2023.”

Isaiah Mupfurutsa, who was chairman at the club, was the first to leave and has since crossed the floor to Simba Bhora.

Before they left the club, the old executives had gotten rid of coach Tonderai Ndiraya after the team failed to win the league title last year.

Ndiraya was replaced by Herbert Maruwa, who has been chopping and changing the squad, with 15 players having since left the club.

Last season, DeMbare management had several brushes with players over finances, particularly winning bonuses. Some of the players left after failing to agree signing-on terms with the club.

Shadowy Chinese Mining Company To Evict Mutoko Villagers

Hundreds of villagers in three Mutoko villages face displacement from their ancestral land after a shadowy Chinese company made a spirited attempt to annex the area under a planned lithium mining venture.

The displacements by Zim Win MINING (PVT) LTD are targeting Dzobo, Kanyandura and Marozva villages all under Chief Nyamukoho in the Mashonaland East area.

Last October, a company delegation reportedly camped near Marozva village after discovering rich lithium deposits in the three villages.

The delegation, according to villagers, held several meetings with the local authority and the village head, Jacob Kanyandura while trying to convince them to sign forms on behalf of villagers consenting to vacating the area.

After facing resistance from the village head, the Chinese delegation reportedly resurfaced Wednesday last week at Chipfuti Business Centre armed with a map purportedly proving that the villages were sited within the company’s mining claim.

Determined to pursue the project, some company representatives are said to have visited the homes of the villagers last Thursday still trying to persuade them to sign forms consenting to vacating their land.

The company has promised to compensate the villagers using proceeds to be realised from the planned mining venture.

Villagers have however resisted the move.

Kanyandura said that after villagers refused to bow to Zim Win Mining (PVT) LTD pressure, the Chinese delegation on Sunday approached him with some revised documents trying to convince him to persuade the villagers to sign.

“When I met the Chinese delegation, they requested to be handed back the faulty consent forms they had left for villagers to sign,” he said.

“They insisted the papers were erroneous and presented revised copies they purported guaranteed villagers’ compensation after Lithium exploration which they offered to me to sign and further convince the rest of the villagers to do the same.”

Kanyandura added that the villagers had resolved that no lithium exploration would be done or approved by the villagers without first holding public engagements with the mining company in the presence of the local legislators and councillors to probe the company’s real intentions.

One of the affected villagers who preferred anonymity for fear of victimization said during the meeting, the villagers came up with several resolutions to resist the Chinese’s efforts to displace them.

“After the Chinese’s several efforts to persuade us to leave our homes, we held a meeting and agreed that we will resist the invasion until we got full information about their real intentions.

“We also agreed not to politicise the matter but seek justice as legal residents even if it meant going to court.

“We also agreed that we will not sign any documents as households or families but as a village to avoid any attempts to divide us by the Chinese,” he said.

Sources said that Zim Win MINING (PVT) LTD was now demanding to see minutes from the meeting by the villagers amid suspicions they were seeking new avenues of convincing the villagers to consent to lithium explorations in their homes.

Zanu Pf Top Stalwart Hauled To Court For R_ape

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF district co-ordinating committee chairperson for Hwange Matthew Muleya was yesterday arraigned before the Harare Magistrates’ Court on allegations of rɑp!ng a female police band member after a show in the capital.

Muleya (43) appeared together with police band supervisor Cuthbert Gwidi (47) charged with rɑpǝ.

They were remanded out of custody to February 28.

Allegations are that sometime in 2018 at Harare’s Rainbow Towers, the complainant (who is not named for legal reasons) and Gwidi, who is her supervisor, were performing at a Zanu PF fundraising dinner where Muleya was a delegate.

It is alleged that after the event, the complainant and her fellow band members were dismissed.

Gwidi then called the complainant back to the hotel and he took her to Muleya who rɑpǝd her twice.

Three days later, the complainant noticed that she had been infected with a ƨǝxually transmitted illness.

She reported the matter at Harare Central Police Station and also went for a medical examination. An affidavit was compiled.

Gwidi is also being charged with rɑp!ng the same complainant between 2017 and 2019 at various places in and around the ZRP Morris Depot, Harare.

In 2017, it is alleged Gwidi sent the complainant to fetch documents from his office. He followed her and threatened her with dismissal before demanding ƨǝx in exchange for remaining at work.

He then rɑpǝd her once in his office.

It is alleged that from that day until 2019, the accused person used the same threats and ƨǝxually abused her on several occasions.

The matter was later reported to the police.

Cop Demands S*x From Married Junior

A SENIOR police officer has been accused of demanding ƨǝx from a marriǝd subordinate since 2017.

Chief Inspector Cuthbert Gwidi, the officer-in-charge of the Police Band Department, was reported to have been forcing the 44-year-old band dancer to have ƨǝx with him.

He reportedly threatened to axe her if she turned down his ƨǝxual advances.

Chief Insp Gwidi is further accused of lur!ng the woman into a hotel room where she was allegedly rapǝd by a councillor only identified as Nleya from Victoria Falls.

The woman disclosed the matter to her husband, who lodged a police report against the two at Harare Central Police Station.

National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the case and said investigations were underway.

“Police are investigating a case of ƨǝxual abuse involving a band officer in charge,” said Ass Comm Nyathi.

According to police sources, Chief Insp Gwidi called the victim to his office sometime in 2017 and threatened to dismiss her if she refused anything he asked for.

“The victim was rapǝd in Gwidi’s office in 2017 and he threatened not to deploy her to paid duties if she disclosed the matter.

“The victim stood her ground and lodged a police report against Gwidi at the Police Complaints Desk, but it was all in vain. She was subjected to ƨǝxual abuse by Councillor Nleya in 2019 at a hotel in Victoria Falls where they were assigned to perform at a function,” said the source.

“Gwidi tricked the victim that she was booked in a room together with other dancers, but she found Nleya, Gwidi and another person in the room. Gwidi and the other person left the room leaving Nleya and the victim and she was rapǝd.”

Muvevi Detention Continues

The murder suspect, Jaison Muvevi, accused of killing four people including a police officer, was yesterday back in court for routine remand pending indictment to the High Court for trial on charges of murder.

Muvevi was remanded to February 20 when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi.

He is charged with four counts of murder and two other counts of attempted murder after he also allegedly shot and injured a police officer in Hwedza before shooting at another man in Mutare, whom he narrowly missed.

He was not asked to plead to the charges.

According to the State, Muvevi killed Nyarai Round (33) of Domboshava, Chrispen Kanerusine (48) of Hwedza, the officer-in-charge of Hwedza Police station Inspector Maxwell Hove (43) and 27-year-old Munashe Majani, who was a barman at Ruzema Bottlestore, Mukamba Business Centre, Hwedza.

Muvevi allegedly attempted to kill Tendai Mugova, a police officer at Hwedza Camp and Raphael Nyahwema at Mutare Boys High School as he sought to escape to Mozambique.

It is the State’s case that on November 19 last year at around 9.30pm, Nyasha Eusen was in the company of Mr Round at Clan Court in Eastlea, Harare. Muvevi approached the pair, pulled out his pistol and shot Mr Round once on the head for no apparent reason.

Eusen tried to run away, but was caught and forced into a Toyota Allion sedan.

Muvevi then drove to Huruyadzo Shopping Centre in St Mary’s, Chitungwiza, with two other men where Eusen managed to escape.

On January 13 this year, at around midday, Madzibaba Kanerusine, who was the leader of Johanne Masowe eChishanu Apostolic Church, was at the church shrine with other congregants.

Muvevi arrived in the company of Shupikai Muvevi and was ushered into the shrine by senior church members, who gave him a white wrapping cloth to cover himself since his dress was deemed inappropriate for the shrine.

Muvevi joined other congregates while Madzibaba Kanerusine was preaching, but after two minutes went to his car, gabbed a gun, hit it under the garment and shot Madzibaba Kanerusine in the head.

Muvevi then sped off. The shooting was reported to ZRP Hwedza where the late Insp Hove was the officer-in-charge. He mobilised a team of police officers and left ZRP Hwedza for Negombwe Village but as they were driving along Hwedza-Murambinda Road, they spotted Muvevi parked at the 25km peg talking to an unidentified man.

Police officers blocked his vehicle and as they were getting out of their car, Muvevi opened fire and shot Insp Hove thrice in the head while he was seated in the passenger seat.

He also allegedly shot Detective Constable Tendai Mugova three times on the pelvis and abdomen, leaving him seriously injured, according to the charge sheet.

Other police officers ran for cover, but are reported to have dropped an FN rifle with a magazine and 10 rounds and a CZ pistol.

Muvevi then drove to Mukamba Business Centre where he went to Ruzema Bottle Store. He saw Mr Majani outside the bar in the company of Given Pambeni and Tinashe Musangano. Muvevi is said to have called Majani over and had a brief chat with him before shooting him.

Muvevi sped off heading towards Mutare. On January 14, he went to Mutare Boys High School almost on the border where he confronted Mr Nyahwema and fired three shots towards him after he refused to give him food. He missed him.

Muvevi then skipped the border into Mozambique where he was arrested on January 15 before being sent back to Zimbabwe.-State media

Universities Flooded With Doctor Wans

Zimbabwe’s institutions of higher learning are struggling to absorb an overflowing number of applicants aspiring to study medicine and other health-related courses, with only one percent of candidates being successful.

This emerged during a high-level policy dialogue held in Bulawayo on Monday.

The two-day indaba which ended yesterday provided a health labour market analysis (HLMA) while identifying priority health workforce investment opportunities, and building consensus on strategic priorities and investment options to help inform a national health workforce strategy and investment plan.

The findings of the HLMA are expected to inform policymakers on the strategies that need to be adopted in the health sector.

The study revealed that there is a high demand for people intending to venture into health and medical-related fields while only a fraction of those aspiring to study secure places in universities.

Some of the institutions that offer medicine in the country include the University of Zimbabwe, the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Midlands State University (MSU), and Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) among others.

Findings from the HLMA established that an average of 89 applicants compete for one vacancy to enroll as doctors countrywide.

“With 397 185 applicants for admission in the 2021 academic year, only 4 134 of the prospective health professions’ students were offered places, which translates to one percent of the applicants who got places to train,” reads part of the findings.

According to the HLMA findings, there is a sharp decline in the number of health workers who left the country last year compared to 2021.

“Migration of health workers from Zimbabwe has been a longstanding phenomenon. In December 2021, the overall attrition rate in the public health sector stood at 8 percent. This has gone down to 3,8 percent by the end of 2022,” reads the report.

The report further showed that at least 41 percent of health workers are planning to leave the country.

“Among 2 687 health workers surveyed, 41 percent had intentions to migrate abroad, of which, 53 percent had started working on their plans to migrate. Of those with intentions to migrate, 3,8 percent are planning to leave within the next six months,” read the report.

“Another 7,2 percent have plans of migrating within a year while 74,5 percent intended to migrate to work and 21,4 percent for further studies.”

Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, Health Services Commission (HSC) human resources general manager, Ms Nona Zhou said the HLMA findings are critical as they provide up-to-date information on developments in the health sector.

“This research is critical in the sense that it is scientific research. It will make a difference in the sense that we will be approaching Treasury or partners to say this is what is required. The World Health Organisation (WHO) provided us with tools that we used to calculate, looking at the number of nurses and doctors we will need say by 2030,” she said.

“From the available data, we can now tell that the Government at this point in time can afford this much unlike in the past because there is information from this study.”

Ms Nona said the research findings also outline areas of cooperation between the Government and development partners.

She said there is a need to cover the gaps that exist in the training of health workers and urged the private sector to come on board.

Ms Nona commended health workers for their dedication to duty, saying Zimbabwe has the highest productivity and performance rate in the African continent at 75 percent.

Zimbabwe Council of Higher Education (Zimche) chief director for life and health sciences Professor Felicity Gumbo said the HLMA results should be aligned with the training of those in the health sector.

“The training of people in the health sector feeds into the training for the country so that the Ministry of Health and Child Care maps out the skills that are required while the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development fulfills those needs,” she said.

Prof Gumbo said the HLMA research confirms that more needs to be done to train specialists in the health sector as there is a 95 percent gap.

“The evidence is clear that we still have not made huge strides in addressing the skills deficit in the medicine and health sciences. The second recommendation is that we might need to expand our training,” she said.

“The number of places for students to train in medicine is quite limited. As a result, even those who would have really passed with flying colours are failing to make it.”

Prof Gumbo said there is also a need to retain lecturers as some of them are leaving the country resulting in a brain drain in the health sector.

She said the brain drain is also affecting the expansion of education in the medical field.

“The country also needs to invest more in modern equipment in hospitals as this is necessary in producing quality health personnel,” said Prof Gumbo.- state media

SA: Truck Driver Arrested For Smuggling ‘Mnangagwa’s Chrome’

A 37-year old Zimbabwean truck driver has been arrested in South Africa for illegally transporting chrome worth R650 000 in Limpopo Province.

The truck driver, Brighton Mutandani, was arrested last Thursday by the neighbouring country’s elite cops, the Hawks.

He has since appeared in the Praktiseer Regional Court on charges of allegedly transporting chrome without a permit and contravening the Immigration Act. Hawks spokesperson for Limpopo, Captain Matimba Maluleke said the suspect was arrested during a crackdown on illegal mining activities in the province.

“As the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation continues to fight the scourge of illegal mining in the province, a sting joint operation between the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation and Crime Intelligence was conducted last week. During the operation, a suspicious tipper truck was spotted driving in the area and it was stopped and searched,” he said.

“The truck was found fully loaded with chrome that the driver failed to produce a permit for and he was immediately arrested. Further investigations revealed that the driver did not have legal documents allowing him to be in the country.”

Capt Maluleke said the chrome and the truck were seized. He said Mutandani was remanded in custody to Friday for bail application.

Hawks provincial head for Limpopo, Major General Gopz Govender said: “We look forward to conducting more operations to deal with the illegal mining problem and our presence will be felt.”

South African police recently tightened screws on illegal miners following the death of eight panners including four Zimbabweans, three Mozambican and a South African in the Burgersfort area in Limpopo Province.

The illegal miners died after suffocating when the mine shaft filled up with rainy water resulting in the walls collapsing.

Police have since opened an inquest following the tragic incident. The mishap occurred in the Ga-Moroga Village where the suspected illegal miners had been digging chrome before the walls of the shaft gave in during heavy rains.

Illegal chrome mining activities are rife in areas along the R37 road in Sekhukhune District and police have arrested several illegal miners and confiscated mining equipment.

Zimbabweans were also among the 21 suspected illegal miners whose bodies were discovered in a mineshaft in Krugersdorp, Gauteng, South Africa in November last year after they were trapped.

In September 2021, South African emergency workers retrieved 11 bodies of Zimbabweans who died after a generator they were using in a disused underground mine exploded in Benoni, some 35km outside Johannesburg.

The group which included 15 people, among them Zimbabweans and Mozambicans, entered the mine on August 27 of the same year and they were using the generator for lighting and drilling.- state media

No Freedom For Muvevi

Zimbabwean Charged With 19 Rape Counts

A Zimbabwean footballer charged with 19 counts of rape, goes on trial next week, in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Mr John Hope Muchirahondo now faces 39 charges of sex offending against 19 complainants.

Crown prosecutor Claire Boshier filed the new charge list at a Christchurch High Court call-over before Justice Cameron Mander on Friday.

She said the new list added three more identified complainants to the previous total of 12, and charges related to four more women who remain unidentified.

Some new complainants have come forward since 35-year-old Muchirahondo’s name and photograph were published in a report of his bail hearing and the nature of the charges on September 28.

Boshier said police had been analysing material found on his phone, and several charges arose from those videos but not all the women shown in the videos had so far been identified. Inquiries were continuing.

The trial date has also been changed to February 13, 2023, and is scheduled to last five weeks.

The charges allege offending in Christchurch and Auckland over several years.

Muchirahondo, a well-known name in football circles in Auckland and Christchurch, is originally from Zimbabwe, but has been living in New Zealand for about 11 years.

Muchirahondo has been refused bail and remains in custody on 39 charges which include multiple rapes and sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection. He has already pleaded not guilty to most of the charges, but no new pleas were put in for the new charges on Friday.

Justice Mander remanded the case to another call-over on Ferbuary 4 when defence counsel Anselm Williams is expected to tell the court whether time will be needed for pre-trial arguments.- Stuff

Mnangagwa Rushes To Meet World’s Worst Dictator

Tinashe Sambiri| The Zanu PF leader Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa has flown to Equatorial Guinea for a State visit.

Analysts project Mr Mnangagwa has gone to that country to receive “rigging lectures.”

According to ZBC news, Mr Mnangagwa will spend two days in Equatorial Guinea.

“President Emmerson Mnangagwa has left the country for Equatorial Guinea for a two-day State visit.

He was seen off at the Robert Mugabe International Airport by Vice President General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga, government ministers, permanent secretaries and service chiefs.”

‘Lover’s Crimes’ Cost 4 Cars

The High Court has thrown out an urgent application filed by a Harare woman to recover four luxury vehicles taken custody of by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) following the arrest of her lover on fraud charges.
The court said there was no urgency in the application and she can join the ordinary queue.

Ms Charlotte Chavavarirwa is a girlfriend of former NetOne employee Daniel Kalira, who is facing charges of theft involving $150 million worth of airtime from his employer.

Following Kalira’s arrest, ZACC took custody of his three expensive Mercedes Benz vehicles and one Toyota Hilux on suspicion they were bought using proceeds of crime; they can be returned if he is acquitted or if charges are dropped, but meanwhile he cannot use them or sell them.

Ms Chavavarirwa, who claimed to have been adversely affected by the seizure order, approached the High Court seeking to recover use of the vehicles, which she said belonged to her.

In her application, she argued that she was inconvenienced by the effects of the seizure and needed the vehicles for her business operations and the school-run for her children.

She was forced to be a pedestrian because of the seizure of the vehicles.

But ZACC opposed the application and sought its dismissal on the basis that it was not urgent and that she failed to establish the irreparable harm affecting her following the seizure of the vehicles.

In his ruling against the urgent application, Justice Neville Munyaniso Wamambo, noted that the matter did not qualify to be treated as urgent and removed it from the roll.

“I find that applicant being rendered a pedestrian is not irredeemable harm. She can seek alternative transport in the meanwhile,” said the judge.

Urgent applications over use of property or assets are designed to prevent any harm that cannot be reversed while the longer legal processes are being played out.

The court also noted that it was improbable that damage could occur on the vehicles while in the custody of a Government entity, and the risk was too low to warrant the court to release them.

“I am mindful that there are rules, regulations and procedures aimed at preserving property lawfully seized,” said Justice Wamambo.

“The same would apply to the issue of compensation. In any case, nothing can stop applicant from suing the relevant government entity if damage is visited upon the vehicles.”

ZACC investigations established that Kalira allegedly stole from NetOne through an airtime voucher scam committed over a period of two years.

He was arrested after anxious colleagues tipped off ZACC after noticing that his lifestyle that suddenly improved tremendously.

Storm Brews For Manchester City

Several English Premier League teams are reportedly calling for a stiffer penalty against Manchester City if the club is found guilty of breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

The reigning English champions have been accused of more than 100 separate breaches, with the alleged offences having taken place between 2009 and 2018.

The allegations were raised following a four-year investigation, and the final report will be submitted to an independent commission.

According to The Sun newspaper, teams in England’s top flight are reportedly keen to see Guardiola’s side demoted from the top-flight if the charges are proven.

“If these charges are proven there must be proper punishment – and the only fitting one is for them to be relegated,” an unnamed club chief told publication.

“We’re talking about a decade of alleged abuses and want the Premier League to do the right thing.”

The newspaper adds that the clubs also want the title holders to be punished before the end of the current season. City sit second in the table after 21 games, just five points behind leaders Arsenal.

Other punishment suggestions include stripping City of its league titles won during the period in question.

Meanwhile, the eight-time English champions have since responded to the allegations in a statement, which reads: “Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.

“The Club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position. As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Kalimbwe Speaks For First Time After Police Release, ‘Zambia’s Change Is Not Enough!’

By A Correspondent | The UPND Information Secretary, Joseph Kalimbwe has spoken for the first time after his arrest on allegations of “disturbing the peace,” at Lusaka Police Station.

Kalimbwe was arrested Saturday morning and his accuser who is the UPND Youth Chairperson Gilbert Liswaniso claimed he had been arrested on charges of impersonating him (Liswaniso) and this for financial gain during his supposed recent visit to Zimbabwe. Liswaniso claims that Kalimbwe received money from CCC leader Nelson Chamisa while representing him.

Kalimbwe has not been to Zimbabwe at any time during the time Liswaniso suggests so.

Speaking exclusively to ZimEye, Liswaniso told this news network, he is in charge of all Zambia’s youths.

He said, ” I’m in charge of the young people in this country, okay? I know how I deal with my young people in this country you cannot tell me anything you.

“I know all the youth in this country who fought battles with Hakainde Hichilema. Okay?

“But if you’re going to use impersonating in the name to become popular.

“Do you know that even shitting in a public, you can become popular? Do you know that?”

Responding to the matter, Kalimbwe said he has no apologies for supporting opposition parties outside Zambia. He said in brief –

I supported democratic reforms in other nations: Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Eswathini, because I believe then and I still believe now that the change that we voted in Zambia is not enough…when some of our friends are still going through the very same persecution that we went through, but I’ve come to understand that when you’re speaking certain things there could be ramifications, there could be problems that come with that. I want to state here that I remain very loyal to the Zambian struggle, because this is the nation that raised me… but the politics of this nation have always been tribal….

New Breast Cancer Guidelines

The World Health Organization (WHO) released a new Global Breast Cancer Initiative Framework today providing a roadmap to attain the targets to save 2.5 million lives from breast cancer by 2040. The new Framework launched ahead of the World Cancer Day campaign marked tomorrow, recommends to countries to implement the three pillars of health promotion for early detection, timely diagnosis and comprehensive management of breast cancer to reach the targets.

There are more than 2.3 million cases of breast cancer that occur each year, which make it the most common cancer among adults. In 95% of countries, breast cancer is the first or second leading cause of female cancer deaths. Yet, survival from breast cancer is widely inequitable between and within countries; nearly 80% of deaths from breast and cervical cancer occur in low- and middle-income countries.

“Countries with weaker health systems are least able to manage the increasing burden of breast cancer. It places a tremendous strain on individuals, families, communities, health systems, and economies, so it must be a priority for ministries of health and governments everywhere,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO, “We have the tools and the know-how to prevent breast cancer and save lives. WHO is supporting more than 70 countries, particularly low- and middle-income countries, to detect breast cancer earlier, diagnose it faster, treat it better and give everyone with breast cancer the hope of a cancer-free future.”

Cancer in women, including breast cancer leave devastating impact for the next generation. A 2020 study by the International Agency for Research on Cancer suggests that with an estimated 4.4 million women dying of cancer in 2020, nearly 1 million children were orphaned by cancer, 25% of which were due to breast cancer. Children who lose their mothers to cancer experience health and educational disadvantages throughout their lives, triggering generational, chronic social disruption and financial harm in many cases.

“Countries need to ensure that this framework engages and integrates into primary health care. This effort would not only support health promotion, but also empower women to seek and receive health care throughout the life cycle,” says Dr Bente Mikkelsen, WHO Director for Noncommunicable Diseases. “With effective and sustainable primary health care, we can really see a pathway to universal health coverage.”

The newly published framework leverages proven strategies to design country-specific, resource-appropriate, health systems for the delivery of breast-cancer care in low- and middle-income settings. It outlines three pillars of action with specific key performance indicators:

Recommending countries to focus on breast cancer early-detection programmes so that at least 60% of the breast cancers are diagnosed and treated as early-stage disease.
Diagnosing breast cancer within 60 days of initial presentation can improve breast cancer outcomes. Treatment should start within three months of first presentation.
Managing breast cancer so that at least 80% of patients complete their recommended treatment.
Accelerating the implementation of WHO’s Global Breast Cancer Initiative has the potential to avert not only millions of avoidable female cancer deaths but also the associated, intergenerational consequences of these deaths.

In 2017, the World Health Assembly passed the Resolution Cancer prevention and control in the context of an integrated approach. Since 2018, WHO has developed integrated initiatives in women’s and children’s cancers, calling also for the elimination of cervical cancer and a doubling of childhood cancer survival. Taken together, these initiatives can revert the generational harm from cancers and save more than a million lives in the next ten years. WHO calls on governments, development partners, industries and individuals to take their part to close the care gap and end the generational harms of cancer.

Gold Mining : The Facts

3Ps of Artisanal mining

Lack of knowledge of how things work
Basically Artisanal mining is communal mining.

The best way to have a proper understanding before you sponsor think like a gvt or NGO sponsoring communal farmers waiting for rain with fertilisers or tractor they know exactly what they want .

Gold is there in all districts of Zimbabwe but some districts have more than other districts .

Furthermore methods used are primitive but developing each day .inorder to succeed know the people involved, process and procedure plus product. You should know what you are selling to the miner not what they think they are selling to you .
Below are the 3Ps in detail
1 people
2 process
3 product
People
Mine owner
This the legal owner with rights to holding and dealing with gold who has his/her name on mine certificate or tribute form . This is the only person with legal grounds to sign contract with you has the right to handle and deal with gold usually represented by appointed manager.

These two ( manager and owner ) are key to on paper agreements not on the ground verbal agreements they legalise your wishes to sponsor unless if you are requesting for a shaft with your own “people ” .
Workers/shareholders
These are the people who do the work , so important to the agreement such that without their approval your presence is useless. They know everything can easily misrepresent facts to suit their agenda because they handle gold before anyone does like it or not .

Always remember this gold is a currency on its own . This will be covered in another article.
3 gvt officials CID minerals , ministry of mines , EMA , RDC and gold mobilisation team .
These have oversight on gold , land , environment and safety of workers
4 illegal gold buyers: These are people who buy gold illegally Always having hard cash can easily take over your agreements especially towards the end of the transaction when they know its pay time . These don’t just sponsor they borrow money at pay point usually not more 48hr cash loan . To us who know the game we use them as yardstick to measure whether gold is in abundance or barren .

Process
1 sample identification
First step where usually workers use limited resources to identify gold rich reef to set up shaft or resuscitation an old one this could cost between 300usd to 500usd .these are available in large numbers across the country.
Resources mobilisation
When shaft is readily available shares in exchange for all needed resources.

This is a stage you or your proxy should be heavily involved
3 mining phase little monitoring
4 milling phase be there all the time you or your proxy
Product
Identify what you are offering and what you want from them don’t let them tell you identify it .

Eg in our database we have a miner who wants 1500usd for tank resuscitation with workers around 100 to 150 . You can give 1500usd refundable with 20% interest plus you supply safety clothing to the 100 workers every 3months plus cyanide and chemical supply every month with between 10% to 20% interest.

CCC Goes For Convergence Instead Of Party Primaries

The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has revealed that it will not hold primary elections to select candidates for this year’s polls.

The decision will undoubtedly set tongues wagging, especially in Zanu PF corridors where they have been demanding that the opposition party should create structures, go for congress and unveil its constitution or else be barred from contesting in the coming general elections.

CCC deputy spokesperson Felix Magalela Sibanda told NewsDay that instead, the opposition, led by Nelson Chamisa, will have a convergence at different levels to allow its members to decide who will represent them in the forthcoming elections.

“We are not going to have primary elections, candidates will be selected by local people in that constituency or ward. We are going to have a convergence where local people are going to choose their representatives. We are going to call everybody who believes in the rules of the CCC, so that they select their suitable leaders through consensus. The local leaders won’t be imposed by external forces,” he said.

The revelation comes as some aspiring candidates have reportedly already imposed themselves in constituencies.

In Norton, Richard Tsvangirayi, the son of the late MDC founder Morgan Tsvangirai, has since imposed himself and has begun campaigning.

Tsvangirai Jnr is already circulating posters on WhatsApp and Twitter, seemingly with the blessing of other party officials. After he formally announced his candidature on Twitter, CCC secretary for rural mobilisation Happymore Chidziva “blessed” his candidature and described him as a workaholic.

“We salute all young people who take an active role in the politics of the day, and for Richie, fight on brother, victory is certain,” Chidziva said.

Another CCC activist Damison Damison has also imposed himself as CCC candidate for Epworth constituency.

“Yes, I am going to contest representing CCC in the forthcoming elections in Epworth constituency,” he told NewsDay yesterday.

However, Sibanda said the party had not released any template for aspiring candidates.

“The party has not released the actual guidelines. So all those people who are campaigning, I wonder if they are CCC members because our members are disciplined,” he said.

China Did Not Donate New Parly Building, Says Mliswa

By A Correspondent| Norton legislator Temba Mliswa breathed fire in parliament recently, accusing the government of paying the Chinese government with lithium for building the new parliament building in Mt Hampden.

Speaking in parliament last week, Mliswa dispelled state claims that the new parliament building was a donation from China.

Mliswa said the Chinese are taking lithium worth US$153 million which is far more than what they invested in the new parliament building.

“Let me also go to the Parliament itself, which is a beautiful Parliament. I am not worried who built it but at what cost? We are all celebrating how great the Parliament is, but at what cost? There is nothing that is beautiful that comes for free.

“There is no grant that is given for free. You now know that when they give it for free, they are taking Manhize which is worth USD153 million. Could we not have mined our resources and make that money to build our own? To us, let us not be excited about sitting in a Parliament which comes with a cost. There is no-one who will ever give you anything for free. In Shona they say, itsitsi dzei kubvisa mwana wemvana madzihwa? Inini munondiziva kuti handina kuroora, mukaona ndakubvisa mwana wemvana madzihwa, chii chandirikutsvaga? Ndakudaka mai vacho.  Saka hazviuye mahara,” said Mliswa.

Ambulance drove from Bindura to Shangani and he was arrested at Bulawayo tollgate.

West Property Reaffirms Vision “1 Billion Bricks By 2050”

By A Correspondent- The construction of 112 “Dubai style” apartment units at Millennium Heights Block 3 is progressing well with work now on the superstructure.

The four-storey affordable lifestyle block will be ready by the second quarter of 2024 paving way for Block 4 which will have six cascading floors and 86 apartment units with studio to three bedroom units on offer.

Block 3 is almost sold out while sales for block 4 have begun and is moving fast.

At least 1000 apartments units are planned for Millennium Heights over a 10 year construction period.

Each apartment brings with it unique features that differentiate it with the rest to avoid monotony and to bring diversity in architectural designs.

During a recent event to mark the handover of block 2 last December, West Property CEO Mr Kenneth Sharpe said his company was “reaffirming the reality of our vision to lay 1 billion bricks by 2050”.

Said Sharpe:

“We are certainly playing our part in rebuilding Zimbabwe and contributing towards the middle income society by 2030.

Our punchline is “Bringing Dubai to Zimbabwe’’. We want the same beauty and splendour that attracts visitors to Dubai to be experienced here in Zimbabwe.”

Sharpe said West Property was building safe gated community neighbourhoods where people can live, work, play and shop in as well as amenities that include sports facilities for tennis, swimming, running, and walking tracks, braai areas, crèche, church, co working spaces, shopping malls, internet connectivity and green energy in the form of solar energy and above all a royal experience to live in style.

The blocks of apartments adorn the Millennium Park, one of the company’s largest mixed use lifestyle estates that includes Millennium Heights, Pokugara Residential Estate, the Mall of Zimbabwe and several office parks combining the live, work, play and shop concept in one area.

Wadyajena Cleared

By A Correspondent- Harare regional magistrate Taurai Manuwere has ruled that Gokwe Nembudziya MP Justice Mayor Wadyajena (Zanu-PF) has no case to answer in a matter he was accused of money-laundering and fraud charges involving US$5,8 million.

Manuwere said the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) failed to prove how Wadyajena performed the illegal transactions from countries such as the United States (US), Holland and Mauritius.

The regional magistrate then removed Wadyajena from remand saying Zacc had no case, adding that they arrested the legislator to investigate him.

Wadyajena was represented by Oliver Marwa and was being charged together with his firm  Mayor Logistics, Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (Cottco) bosses Pius Manamike, Maxmore Njanji, Chiedza Danha, as well as Moncrois PowerPoint Company.

They were all removed from remand.

“The factors the court found in this application is the extent of delay, the reason for delay, the seriousness of the charge, the prejudice of the State, and the adverse interest of the public. This is a clear case and the refusal of remand should be granted, the accused persons have been on remand for more than six months,” Manuwere said, adding that the State had asked for a month from August last year to complete their investigations, but had failed.

Manuwere said the accused could not be kept in remand as it was unknown when the State would conclude its extra-territorial investigations.

Reject The PVO Bill, Mnangagwa Told

Amnesty International has told President Emmerson Mnangagwa to reject the Private Voluntary Organisation (PVO) Bill.

Parliament passed the bill which now awaits Mnangagwa’s signature before it becomes law.

There has been a lot of noise from local and international pressure groups who feel the PVO Bill once it becomes law will close the democratic and civic space thereby leaving government without any checks and balances.

Tigere Chagutah, Amnesty International’s director for east and southern Africa, warned of dire consequences if the bill becomes law.

“President Mnangagwa must use his leadership position to reject this bill as it is repressive. The president must ensure that this bill is never signed into law,” Chagutah said.

Operation Dudula Escalates Demonstrations Against Extension Of Permits For Zimbabweans In SA

Members of Operation Dudula, a South African anti-foreigner, anti-illegal immigration group, on Monday demonstrated outside the Pretoria High Court, opposing the Zimbabwe exemption permit (ZEP) extension.

They sang and marched outside the high court leading to the closure of a section of Madiba Street.

TimesLive quoted national deputy chairperson of Operation Dudula Dan Radebe as saying:

“We are here to demonstrate our dissatisfaction with the extensions of ZEPs because the moment you extend it for another six months, it means you are saying to South Africans, they have become accustomed to poverty, so they can hold on for another six months, while these foreigners take South African jobs and things like that.

“We are here to demonstrate to the court that we are not happy with the extension of the ZEP, and this is not limited to the ZEP. Today is also about us applying to be part of the proceedings.”

Some South Africans have been protesting against foreigners alleging that they are taking jobs away from them.

In some cases foreigners have been killed and burnt alive in xenophobic attacks.

“Revise Law Curricula”: Law Society of Zimbabwe

By A Correspondent- Newly elected Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) president Rumbidzai Matambo has suggested that the country’s law curricula must be revised to satisfy new industry trends.

Matambo says recent law graduates seem to be out of touch with new trends in the legal profession.

Speaking to journalists after paying a courtesy call on Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda yesterday, Matambo said: “The purpose of the visit was to introduce the LSZ’s new leadership. As of February 1, LSZ had a new president and vice president (Lison Ncube) in line with our constitution. We also met to discuss areas of cooperation and areas of mutual interest between the legal profession and Parliament.”

She said LSZ will be working on developing the legal education system in Zimbabwe.

The current one is a bit outdated. We now have more law schools and graduates. We feel the system needs to be looked at again and revamped and get aligned with current trends. We will also be cooperating on the alignment of laws with the Constitution,” she said.

“We are generally looking at degrees from universities to see if they are meeting the demands of the ultimate consumers – legal practitioners and government departments. The idea is to bring together all stakeholders in the legal education sector to discuss that and also look at post graduate training qualifications and in-house training.”

She indicated that consumers of the legal profession are complaining that graduates being churned out are of low standards.

Some of the universities that teach law are the University of Zimbabwe, Great Zimbabwe University and the Midlands State University.

Mukaro High and Silveira High Schools Zimsec 2022 Ordinary Level results that had been withheld have now been released, it has been confirmed.

It was confirmed that the results had been withheld for verification which is now complete, hence the release of the results.

Meanwhile, the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) has castigated ZIMSEC for the move saying they should not punish learners over their own security failures.

Mliswa To Battle It Out With Richard Tsvangirai

By A Correspondent- Temba Mliswa’s hold on the Norton Parliamentary seat will be tested in the upcoming general election when Richard Tsvangirai, son to late pro-democracy icon Morgan Tsvangirai, contests him.

Richard, a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) member and loyal follower of party leader Nelson Chamisa, has already started his campaign despite the party’s silence over the issue.

Unlike his brother Vincent who aligned himself with MDC Alliance leader Douglas Mwonzora after an expected but grand 2020 fall out, Richard has been rooting for Chamisa since his return from Australia.

Independent Mliswa on the other hand, is regarded as one of the most vocal and hardworking Members of Parliament (MP), setting up an intriguing battle between him and the CCC.

A campaign poster circulating on Facebook promises; “Ethical leadership, demonstrating fairness, honesty and integrity.”

After expulsion of then Norton MP Chris Mutsvangwa from Zanu-PF, Mliswa beat the ruling party’s Ronald Chindedza by over 2,000 votes to claim the constituency for the first time.

He was to beat Mutsvangwa, who had just been appointed Presidential Advisor, upon his return to the satellite town in 2018.

Said Mliswa in response to the Tsvangirai reports: “Can CCC clarify if they have done primary elections. Seems they have dumped 2018 losing candidate Samuel Matemera and chosen Richard.

“If that is so I would like to thank you for the 7,000 votes which Matemera got in 2018 and have now swayed my way.”

A former Zanu-PF provincial chairperson, Mliswa has enjoyed on-off relations with the ruling and opposition parties which backed him in past electoral triumphs.

Meanwhile, following its formation in 2022, the CCC announced that it would do away with internal votes to decide who stands at elections but instead allow residents to choose candidates for themselves.

Richard has been visiting sections of the Norton community in a bid to endear himself to constituents and set up a possible upset for Mliswa.

Ultimatum For NRZ

By A Correspondent- Hethimex, a Belgian corporation, has given the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) 30 days to pay its US$9.6 million debt or face legal action.

The debt emanated from a 2003 deal that Hethimex and the state-owned rail company entered resulting in NRZ purchasing parts for general motor locomotives using a revolving credit facility, Zimbabwe Independent reported.

A recent report to the parliamentary committee for transportation suggests that the parastatal has failed to make payments on the debt, which has forced Hethimex to take urgent action. Reads the report in part:

NRZ had been paying and continued to receive the spares, however, when the country re-introduced the ZWL (Zimbabwean dollar), most of the company’s clients opted to pay in ZWL resulting in NRZ failing to service the account.

The debt at one stage ballooned to US$12 million and the management tried to reduce the debt and paid US$2,5 million in instalments. Due to non-payment of instalments by NRZ in 2022, Hethimex decided to demand full payment of the US$9,6 million outstanding and failure of which they opted to have the matter taken to arbitration at a court in London.

The government agreed to bail out NRZ through a loan and served as the contract’s guarantor but the government has not kept its promise prompting Hethimex to issue a 30-day notice of arbitration on January 6 2023:

The report further states that any Zimbabwean government asset would be attached to settle this debt since the agreement was guaranteed by the government.

The burden of the debt —the principal amount plus interest— is one of the major issues making it difficult for the parastatal to acquire finance for recapitalisation.

Some of the debts listed in the report:
1). NRZ owes €2.7 million to the Department of International Development in Central Africa. The money was used to start electrifying the Dabuka to Harare railway line in 1983.
2). Natexis Banque, a French-based lender, is owed €956 398 which was used to purchase 30 electric locomotives that ran along the Dabuka to Harare railway line.
3). German investment and development bank Kreditanstalt Fur Wiederaufbau is owed about €4.05 million which was used to purchase 30 locomotives.
4). The New Limpopo Bridge Project Investment is also owed around US$3 million by the NRZ.
5). Interim Solution Resources is owed about R68.697 million (US$3.4 million) which was used to pay overdue transportation and equipment hire fees.
6). NRZ owes Mozambique Railways (CFM) a total of US$4.96 million.

The NRZ has since asked the government to take over its debt.

Operation Dudula Mobilises Against Zimbabweans

By-A South African xenophobic and anti-foreigner group on Monday demonstrated outside Pretoria High Court opposing the Zimbabwe exemption permit (ZEP).

The xenophobic groping Monday sang and marched outside the high court leading to the closure of a section of Madiba Street.

TimesLive quoted national deputy chairperson of Operation Dudula Dan Radebe as saying:

We are here to demonstrate our dissatisfaction with the extensions of ZEPs because the moment you extend it for another six months, it means you are saying to South Africans, they have become accustomed to poverty, so they can hold on for another six months, while these foreigners take South African jobs and things like that.

We are here to demonstrate to the court that we are not happy with the extension of the ZEP, and this is not limited to the ZEP.

Today is also about us applying to be part of the proceedings.

Operation Dudula wants to join a court application by the Helen Suzman Foundation (HSF) that seeks a review of the lawfulness of the decision by SA Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi to terminate the ZEP.

HSF wants the high court in Pretoria to declare the decision by Motsoaledi to terminate the ZEP and grant a limited extension of 12 months unlawful, unconstitutional and invalid.

Motsoaledi is opposing the application by HSF challenging the termination of the ZEP.

HSF is still pursuing its legal challenge, despite Motsoaledi extending the permit by another six months from the initial 12-months extension that expired on 31 December 2022 to 30 June 2023.

Operation Dudula has applied to the court to join as a respondent in the application.

“He was an irreplaceable leader and father to the province and it is quite sad that he has left us.”

“We already expected a very tough match,” Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said. “We had our chances but couldn’t take advantage of them.”

Ancelotti couldn’t count on several injured starters, including striker Karim Benzema, defender Éder Militão and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who was dropped from the squad at the last minute after getting injured during the warmup. Ancelotti also rested midfielders Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, who came on in the second half.

Asensio missed a chance to equalize when his 60th-minute penalty kick was saved by Mallorca goalkeeper Pedrag Rajkovic after Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior had been fouled. Madrid’s last chance was a header by Antonio Rüdiger that went narrowly wide deep into stoppage time.

The hosts got on the board with an own-goal by Nacho Fernández, who was replacing Militão in defense. Nacho went for a high cross and deflected the ball into his own net over goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, who started in place of Courtois.

“I hit the ball with my head and unfortunately it went into the top corner,” Nacho said. “It was a complicated match, against a team that is having a good season. It’s a pity that we let three points get away.”

Madrid was coming off a win against Valencia after being held by Real Sociedad. Its opponent in the semifinals of the Club World Cup on Wednesday will be Egyptian club Al Ahly.

It was the second win in three league matches for Mallorca, and the fourth straight at home. It remained midtable with 28 points from 20 matches.

Vinícius was shown a yellow card and will be suspended for Madrid’s next league game against last-place Elche.

The State said the two went to a certain flat known as a hub for sex workers along Samora Machel Avenue.

The State said the complainant fell asleep and Tsungirirai searched his trousers pockets and stole US$300 which she gave her friend Nyasha to hide.

It is said when the complainant woke up, he realised that his money was missing and he filed a police report at the Fife Avenue post, leading to the duo’s arrest.

A total of US$160 was recovered from Nyasha upon arrest.

Grade 7 Exam Fee

The imbabwe Schools Examinations Council (Zimsec) has maintained the 2022 Grade Seven examination fees figure with parents or guardians set to pay US$29 for all subjects while Government subsidizes the fees with US$36 for the US$65 fees.
The amount should be paid in both foreign and local currency based on the March 3 interbank rate.

“Please be advised that the examination fees for 2023 is US$65 for all subjects. Government will contribute US$36 for candidates in public schools while parents and guardians will pay US$29.

Candidates from private schools and colleges will pay the full cost of US$65 as examination fees for the year,” said Zimsec in a statement.

The examinations body spokesperson Ms Nicky Dlamini said the termly figure will be US$10.

“We are basically using the same fees structure as that of last year. If a parent or guardian wants to pay the whole amount once, they will fork out US$29, between March 3 and March 10. If one decides to pay in instalments, they will pay US$10 per term,” said Ms Dlamini. -state media

Earthquake Kills 3,000, Where Are Zimbabweans?

The welfare of Zimbabweans based in Turkey was the talk of the day following the earthquake that has killed a combined more than 3,000 to date.

Totally shaken… some of the buildings smashed by the quake

The violent tremor hit Turkey and Syria on Monday being the region’s strongest earthquake in nearly a century.

In Turkey, the death toll stood at 1,762, Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said, and 12,068 people were recorded as injured, Reuters reported.

Countries around the world mobilised rapidly to send aid and rescue workers on Monday after a massive earthquake killed more than 2,600 people in Turkey and Syria.

Offers of assistance came from countries across the world. Here are some of the chief pledges of support.

The European Union has mobilised 10 search and rescue teams for Turkey after the stricken country requested EU assistance, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell and EU crisis management commissioner Janez Lenarcic said.

The EU’s Copernicus satellite system has been activated to provide emergency mapping services, it said adding the bloc was ready to support those affected in Syria too.

The UN General Assembly observed a minute of silence in tribute to the victims.

“Our teams are on the ground assessing the needs and providing assistance. We count on the international community to help the thousands of families hit by this disaster, many of whom were already in dire need of humanitarian aid in areas where access is a challenge,” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said.

Two of India’s National Disaster Response Force teams comprising 100 personnel with dog squads and equipment were ready to be flown to the affected area, the foreign ministry said. Doctors and paramedics with medicines were also being readied.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was “anguished” and “deeply pained” by the deaths in Turkey — with whom India has frosty relations — and Syria.

The United States has deployed a team of disaster response specialists after an earthquake killed more than 2,700 people in Turkey and north-west Syria, USAid administrator Samantha Power said.

The Disaster Assistance Response Team “will work in close coordination with Turkish authorities on the frontlines, as well as with our partners on the ground and agencies across the US government,” Power said in a statement.

USAid is also in the process of deploying two urban search and rescue teams from Virginia and California, the statement said. – ARE YOU AFFECTED? CONTACT ZIMEYE NOW

Muvevi ReCaged To 20 Feb

“His Excellency the President, Dr ED Mnangagwa, today announced conferment of National Hero Status on the late Brigadier-General Epmarcus Walter Kanhanga (wartime name Cde Charles Munyoro), who passed on at his Guruve home in the early hours of Thursday, 2nd February, 2023,” said Dr Sibanda.

“This decision by the party to honour the late Brigadier-General in this very special way is in recognition of his wartime role as a freedom fighter; his loyal and diligent service to the country and region as a senior officer of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, ZDF; his role as a Deputy Minister of Government; as a Member of Parliament; as a leader in the corporate world, and as a consistent cadre of the ruling ZANU PF party.”

Details of Brig-Gen Kanhanga’s burial at the National Heroes’ Acre will be announced in due course.

In his condolence message, Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga described the late national hero as a patriotic and forthright cadre, who dedicated his life to serving his country.

“I wish to extend heartfelt condolences to the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, His Excellency Dr E.D. Mnangagwa, the Ministry of Defence and War Veterans Affairs, Mrs Kanhanga and children, the greater Kanhanga family, as well as the entire nation, on the sad loss of a distinguished freedom fighter and nation builder, who dedicated his entire life to serving his people,” said Dr Chiwenga.

“Indeed, he was a colleague who will be dearly missed.

“The late Cde Munyoro was forthright and clear in his conscience that he and his peers needed to work hard and remain determined to liberate our beloved Zimbabwe from the yoke of repressive colonial rule.

“His sacrifice and efforts were not in vain. Today, our people enjoy their sovereignty, freedom and live peacefully because of that invaluable sacrifice.”

In an interview with The Sunday Mail, ZANU PF Mashonaland Central provincial chairperson Cde Kazembe Kazembe expressed gratitude for the honour bestowed on Cde Kanhanga.

“We want to thank President Mnangagwa for honouring our request and conferring him with the national hero status,” said Cde Kazembe.

“As a province, we also want to thank the rest of Government and ZANU PF for finding it fitting to confer national hero status on a deserving freedom fighter.”

He described Brig-Gen Kanhanga as a “humble and down-to-earth leader”, who has left a void that will be difficult to fill in the province.

“As a province, we are deeply saddened by the passing on of Brigadier-General Kanhanga.

“The way he passed on is very saddening because he was not showing any signs of being unwell; he was fit and healthy.

“Up to now, people are still to come to terms with the news of his passing.

“He was an irreplaceable leader and father to the province and it is quite sad that he has left us.”

Born on January 6,1950, Brig-Gen Kanhanga went to school in Guruve before skipping the border for military training in the early 1970s.

Dudula Launches Fresh Attacks On Zimbabweans

By-Members of Operation Dudula, a South African anti-foreigner group, have demonstrated opposing the Zimbabwe exemption permit (ZEP) extension outside the Pretoria High Court.

Wadyajena Acquitted Of US$5.8 Million Fraud Charges

By A Correspondent| Harare Magistrate Taurai Manuwere has today acquitted flamboyant Gokwe Nembudziya Legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena and Cottco bosses of US$5.8 million fraud charges.

Wadyajena was being charged together with the four co-accused persons who include Pious Manamike, Maxmore Njanji, Fortunate Molai and Chiedza Danha successfully applied for refusal of further remand which was granted by Magistrate Manuwere.

In granting the application, Magistrate Manuwere said the state had no case against the accused as they arrested to investigate as the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) failed to produce a docket for the case to proceed for trial.

Manuwere further stated that there was unnecessary delay by the state to complete investigations.

When Wadyajena and company were arrested, ZACC had initially hinted that there was overwhelming evidence against the accused including 27 fuel trucks, a Lamborghini Urus and a BMW X6M which were attached as part of proceeds of crime.

According to sources close to the ruling Zanu PF party, the arrest of Wadyajena was part of infightings allegedly spearheaded by his rivals seeking to challenge him for the Gokwe-Nembudziya parliamentary seats in party primaries ahead of the watershed 2023 harmonised elections.

This was followed by calls to have him removed him from his role as Chairperson of the Agriculture Committee.

The arrest of Wadyajena is believed to have been the reason why ZACC Commissioner John Makamure was eventually suspended amid allegations that he was abusing his position and dabbling in politics against the dictates of his job.

Makamure was also discovered to be running a campaign to challenge Wadyajena for his seat in Nembudziya which presented a clear and brazen conflict of interest.

Kirsty Coventry Denies Harare City’s Bid To Recruit Drain Cleaners

Acting Minister Coventry denies City’s bid to recruit drain cleaners, grass cutters and street cleaners.

Kirsty Coventry

Council is currently carrying out a drain cleaning, catch pits cleaning, grass cutting, pipe drain de-blocking and spoil removal exercise City wide.

However, our efforts have been hampered by shortage of manpower. Council has already engaged the parent ministry, Ministry of Local Government and Public Works seeking approval to employ Drain Cleaners, grass cutters and street cleaners as per the ministerial directive which is against the spirit of devolution.

The ministry requested justification for the need for those specific workers, despite providing the justification to the ministry is still to respond, after frequent follow ups with the Ministry we have been advised that Minister July Moyo is on Leave and the Acting Minister Kirsty Coventry refused to approve.

Once the City, has been cleared to recruit, it will expedite the process.
It must however be noted that the city is not resting on its laurels over the matter, the drain clearance is a recurrent routine exercise which is carried out throughout the year, primarily because of the behaviour of the general citizenry and vendors who have a tendency of using catch pits as litter pits.

This results in blockages of catch pits and pipes leading to flooding. Progress on this is not noticeable as rubbish is swept into catch pits and storm water drains daily. Vendors also store their wares in catch pits.

Our amenities division is currently doing day and night shifts in order to control litter while our Roads division has established a designated gang responsible for drain cleaning and flood management to man the CBD throughout the rainy season.

There also is a joint drain cleaning, drain clearing and spoil removal operation between the Amenities division and the Roads division.

This is a complementary exercise to the main drain cleaning programme. The main aim is to clear the illegal dumpsites in the CBD.

The illegal dumps lead to flooding after the waste from the dumps is washed into storm water drains.

There will be heavy enforcement and littering control in the City. At the moment on most street corners in town we have vendors roasting mealies and leaving the mealie covers thrown all over, there eventually find their way into our drainage system.

The City has procured a new excavator which will be dedicated to the major collector’s/outfall drain clearing some of which have not been cleared in the past 8 or more years.

The City has also procured three excavators, one Front End Loader and three Tractors – trailer combinations to assist in loading and transportation of spoil from drains as this is one of our major challenges at the moment.

Further it must be noted that most of our steel catch pits covers, half drum metal bins installed by City parking were all stolen and sold as scrap in Magaba, Gazaland, and other areas. The city is embarking on installation of plastic bins.

The Roads division has started a concrete works yard to produce kerbs and catch pits.

Some new construction/developments, invasion of wetlands and unauthorised trenching done at night is also interfering with our underground storm water drainage where at times drainage is completely cut and blocked.

The situation requires all stakeholders to come together and avoid flooding through responsible behaviour.

I thank you

Peter Ndlovu Struggles To Maintain His 13 Children

By- Former Dream Team start and Mamelodi Sundowns team manager Peter Ndlovu seems to be struggling to maintain the 13 children born from different mothers.

This came out after the celebrated football legend convinced the Johannesburg High Court e the amount of child support one of the mothers of his 13 children was demanding.

Ndlovu had been ordered by a lower court to pay almost R30 000 after the mother of two of his children approached the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court last year.

The mother, who cannot be named, to protect the identity of their children was demanding R29,845 per month from the former player. Ndlovu appealed that order In June last year, asking the court to reduce the amount. He told the court that the maintenance the mother of two was demanding would be detrimental to his 11 other children he pays maintenance for.

GARNISHEE ORDER

The high court subsequently granted the mother R12 000 in maintenance and ordered that it be deducted from Ndlovu’s salary.

“I have 13 children, including the two with the first respondent, the former Zimbabwean international told the court.

“I am obliged to contribute and see to the maintenance of all my 13 children.

“I earn a monthly salary which is utilised for my own living expenses, needs, necessities and liabilities, as well as to contribute to my dependants’ expenses and other obligations.

“I can simply not afford a deduction of R29845 per month from my salary,” read the 49•year-old, court application.

He said the mother had approached the Johannesburg Magistrates Court without alerting him to the legal proceedings.

“I approached the maintenance court at the earliest opportunity given my work commitments – on June 10 2021 – in order to establish how the order was obtained without my having any knowledge of the proceedings and to determine how the arrears were calculated,” he wrote in his court papers.

According to the court order, Ndlovu was already more than R94 000 in maintenance arrears. The former striker, who played for UK clubs Sheffield United, Coventry City and Birmingham City before joining Sundowns when he retired, said there was never any meaningful relationship with the mother, apart from the two encounters that remitted in the birth of the children.

NO COMMUNICATION

As a result of these encounters, two minor children were born between the respondent and me.

“I” was not informed by the respondent about the pregnancies or the subsequent births of our children.

“The last I heard of the children was when she instituted maintenance proceeding against me in 2016.

“Them is no communication between the respondent and me. We share no relationship and there is no contact between us,” he told the court.

“He also said he had no contact with the children, as their mother was denying him access to them.

Ndlovu was approached by City Press for comment, and he asked for the questions to be sent to via text, and had not responded going to print.

Dump Your 2018 Losing Candidate And The 7000 Votes Will Be Mine, Mliswa Tells CCC

Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has questioned Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) handling of the Norton parliamentary seat saying should the party forego primary elections in favour of Richard Tsvangirai, the 7000 votes won by the 2018 losing candidate will go his way.

This follows Richard Tsvangirai’s move to start the campaigning process which resulted in Mliswa and another person questioning how CCC handles its internal democratic processes.

“Can@CCCZimbabwe clarify if they have done primary elections. Seems they just dumped 2018 losing candidate Matemera& chose Richard Tsvangirayi. If that is so I would like to thank you for the 7000 votes, which Matemera got in 2018 & you have now swayed my way,” said Mliswa.

The firebrand former Zanu PF politician said he is now waiting for the ruling party to conduct its primaries, praying for confusion so that he can also harvest votes from disgruntled voters.

“I now wait for @ZANUPF_Official primary elections when I will harvest the aggrieved votes of the losing camp. Primary elections are a good hunting ground for independent candidates as most parties cannot handle them peacefully and progressively,” added Mliswa.

Zimbabwe is due to hold its next elections around August with stakes high between Zanu PF and CCC.

Mnangagwa’s Aides Clash Over Chigumba Delimitation Report

Confusion reigned on Saturday after two government spokesmen contradicted each other about the status of a delimitation report handed over to President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday.

Moments after Zimbabwe Electoral Commission chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba handed over some documents to Mnangagwa, all major media outlets including the state-run ZBC and The Herald reported that she had submitted the final report of the delimitation of ward and constituency boundaries.

But within hours, Ndavaningi Mangwana, the permanent secretary in the ministry of information and designated government spokesman, countered this narrative.

He tweeted: “Correction: We have noted a number of social media reports to the effect that the final delimitation report has been presented to HE the President. The final report has NOT yet been presented to His Excellency. When that happens, the public will be informed, thank you.”

Mangwana’s intervention forced the official Herald newspaper to now report, in its Saturday edition, that ZEC had presented Mnangagwa with “a revised draft of the final report on the delimitation of constituency and ward boundaries…”

The paper also called the document a “revised preliminary delimitation report,” adding that the “draft preliminary delimitation report that ZEC handed over to the president will be gazetted in the next 14 days subject to approval by the Head of State.”

But Mnangagwa’s spokesman George Charamba, in his weekly column published in the same paper, maintained that Chigumba had presented ZEC’s final delimitation report.

He wrote in the column ‘Jamwanda on Saturday’: “So the furore over the delimitation report is now over, what with the submission of the final report to the state president yesterday by ZEC chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba?“There was visible relief on her face after the long, drawn-out, fraught ritual; but there was also a glint of satisfaction that critical timelines had been met to make the report a governing document for the 2023 harmonised polls.

That done, contesting parties can now get down to the business of canvassing for support…”Speaking to reporters after the meeting with Mnangagwa on Friday, Chigumba said “we brought him two documents initially.”

On the two documents, Chigumba said “the first document is dealing with our response to the concerns that were raised by parliament, and the second document is dealing with the concerns that His Excellency raised himself” after ZEC handed over a preliminary delimitation report to Mnangagwa on December 26 last year.

She added: “What we have done in these documents is that we have given the legal basis and explanation for our methodology which was brought into question in parliament, whether or not we got the formula correct: was it 10 percent on top and 10 percent at the bottom, was it plus or minus 20 percent, and to what extent did ZEC have a discretion?

Chigumba also went on to say “we have reprinted hardcopies of the preliminary report in line with those corrections and we have resubmitted those to the president who has the mandate to gazette the final delimitation report within 14 days of today. It’s home stretch to the elections.”

The delimitation exercise has opened fissures within Zanu PF amid claims by Mnangagwa’s supporters that Chigumba is in a complicated conspiracy with vice president Constantino Chiwenga to swell battleground constituencies held by Mnangagwa-supporting MPs with traditional opposition voters with the aim of denying him a two thirds majority victory in the general election, with which he can amend the constitution to abolish term limits.

Mnangagwa loyalists were also furious with Chigumba after ZEC deleted seven constituencies held by Mnangagwa sympathisers including the Zanu PF chief whip Pupurai Togarepi, transport minister Felix Mhona and tourism minister Mangaliso Ndlovu.

Commissioner Jasper Mangwana, the ZEC spokesman, is one of seven commissioners who were sidelined by Chigumba during the preparation of the delimitation report.

Zanu PF Threatens CCC Legislator Judith Tobaiwa

Zanu-PF has vowed to block opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator for Kwekwe, Judith Tobaiwa, from making any public addresses in the city, including at funerals.

This was said by the ruling party’s administrative head for Kwekwe District, Jacob Chokururama while addressing a recent inter-district meeting in the Midlands city.

Chokururama said opposition supporters were enjoying unfettered freedom in Kwekwe “and it must not be tolerated”.

“We have shadow MPS and Councillors in our city give them an opportunity to address,” he said. Don’t allow her (Tobaiwa) to address even at funerals. Why are you giving her that opportunity to address?”

Considered President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s home town, Zanu-PF has failed to win elections in Kwekwe central, repeatedly losing to the opposition over the past few general elections.

Chokururama challenged party activists to reverse the trend in crunch elections due later this year.

“As Kwekwe Central we must look into the issue. Let us vote in such a way which will make our President sleep peacefully,” he said.

“Let us vote in such a manner which will perpetuate Zanu-PF rule. In Judith Tobaiwa we don’t have an MP. This time around let us go back to the basics and vote for the party. We don’t want a repeat of what happened.”

Chokururama also complained that the opposition was being given “too much freedom” in the city.

“If we give people freedom they tend to forget where we came from. How do we pay homage, to those long departed whose remains are scattered in Zambia and Mozambique? It’s by voting for Zanu-PF.

“Everyone is now a political commissar, go and campaign for Zanu-PF to win. We mustn’t label each other or finger pointing. We mustn’t fight against each other. Let’s be united.”

He continued; “We mustn’t be given a headache by a party without structures. It’s someone’s personal company not a party.

“They brought sanctions so that we will fight amongst ourselves. Chamisa’s party doesn’t even have its own constitution. This time around we are reclaiming our seat.”

“It’s a good result, moves us further away from the relegation zone,” Mallorca’s Mexican coach Javier Aguirre said. “But there are many matches left, we can’t relax.”

Vinícius was shown a yellow card and will be suspended for Madrid’s next league game against last-place Elche.

In other league games Sunday, third-place Real Sociedad hosts Valladolid and relegation-threatened Valencia visits Girona. Sociedad can move within three points of Madrid with a victory.- Washington Post

Andre Ayew Joins Nottingham Forest

Andre Ayew has completed his switch to the English Premier League after joining Nottingham Forest on a free transfer.

The Ghanaian striker, who played for Swansea and West Ham in England’s top-flight, signed a deal until the end of the season.

Forest were able to sign the player outside the transfer window because he’s a free agent.

The 33-year-old Black Stars captain was without a club following his exit from Qatari outfit Al Sadd.

“It’s a great feeling to sign for Nottingham Forest,” Ayew said on the club’s official website.

“I know how big the club is and I know how much the club means to the city and the fanbase.

“It’s always been difficult whenever I’ve played against Forest and at The City Ground and I love the stadium.

“Steve Cooper is someone who knows me very well and knows how to work with me both on and off the pitch.

“We have a strong relationship, he’s a special coach and a special human being and someone who I really look up to.

“I know what I can bring to the team, I’m ready to give my all and make sure that we are able to stay in the Premier League.”

The transfer follows after the striker was heavily tipped to join Everton but turned down the offer to join Forest.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Sniper Storm Is DNA Guilty

Artiste Chipo Muchegwa says her relationship with musician Sniper Storm, the father of her three-year-old daughter is cordial.

child support mum… Chipo Muchengwa

The two had a widely publicised child support tiff after the popular dancehall artiste; born Donald Chirisa, was accused of neglecting the child he sired with Muchegwa.

Sniper Storm was then reported to be not sending anything towards the child’s upkeep.

Muchegwa, who is living with a disability, was reported to have almost turned into a beggar in a bid to fend for her child who had been neglected by her Love YemuSoja father.

Speaking in a radio interview recently, Muchegwa said she was now fine with Sniper Storm.

“With Sniper Storm we met through music and dated for five years. We are no longer together and we don’t talk much, but we are okay and he is taking care of his daughter,” she said.

Sniper Storm then told the media that the matter was a personal issue between himself and Muchegwa.

“I am a very responsible father and have always left the door open for her to discuss with me anything concerning the child, but she chose to go public with it,” he said.

“I will make sure my child receives all the support she desires.”

Later speaking on a radio interview, Sniper Storm, who is married, blamed Covid-19 for failing to provide for his daughter.

“There was a period that support, financial support didn’t reach her and there was also a breakdown of communication,” he said.

“I have been supporting my child since Chipo was pregnant till this moment.

“Unfortunately, there was a time when I was diagnosed of Covid-19, me and my whole family — my wife, children and our maid were affected and we had to self-isolate in the house.

“That period also gigs were banned and I couldn’t work, it was a very hard time that also saw me struggling even at home, this led to the issue.”

Muchegwa who is working closely with fellow artist Terry Gee revealed that they are planning a double launch of their respective albums.

“I met with Terry at Jairos Jiri and we then did a collaboration not knowing that our song would be successful,” she said.

“This led us into doing another song which is also doing very well.”

“We are working on different albums that we will hold a double launch event, we are doing well as a duo and our relationship is purely professional contrary to what love rumours that people are spreading.” —Standard

Wadyajena Theft Case Shelving Plot

Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena and Cottco bosses accused of misappropriating funds meant to purchase bale cables and using the cash to import trucks, have withdrawn their initial application for revocation of their placement on remand and mounted a fresh bid.
Wadyajena is jointly appearing in court with Cottco bosses — Pius Manamike, Maxmore Njanji, Chiedza Danha and Fortunate Molai — on fraud and money laundering charges with two companies, Wadyajena’s Mayor Logistics and Danha’s Pierpoint Moncroix, also charged.

Last Friday, they jointly mounted a fresh bid for revocation of their placement on remand, arguing that there was no docket sufficiently ready for a prosecution decision, as claimed by the State and the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).

They also argued that the State and ZACC had failed to update the court on progress regarding investigations since August last year.

If the bid is successful they can still be summoned to court to face trial, but would not longer be on bail or have to follow bail conditions.

The State says the delay in a trial date arises from the need to wait for authorities in three other countries to respond to requests for information.

In the submissions made by lawyer Mr Oliver Marwa, they claimed that the State and ZACC were struggling to process a mutual legal assistance to undertake investigations in the United States.

“It has come to our attention upon enquiry that there is no docket that is ready for perusal with the State,” said Mr Marwa.

Although the investigating officer had said that investigations should be completed by mid-September last year and five witnesses would be lined up for trial, the accused had been on remand at least since 16 August last year with Manamike and Njanji remanded earlier, said Mr Marwa.

“The prosecution and ZACC have not reported to the court in terms of law on progress of their investigations,” he said.

Mr Marwa submitted that it was clear that the State and ZACC were aware of the need to undertake extra-territorial investigations when they requested a month to complete investigations.

The State and ZACC should also visit Mauritius and the Netherlands to undertake some extra-territorial investigations, he added.

Led by Mr Kennedy Madekutsikwa, the State opposed the application, saying the delay to furnish the accused with a trial date was not inordinate.

Mr Madekutsikwa said it would be prejudicial for Wadyajena and his co-accused to be removed from remand as their case was of public interest.

The State’s case against Wadyajena and his co-accused heavily depends on the extra-territorial investigations.

“Our challenge is that we are not the ones to dictate on when the response we seek comes. This is the only thing that is outstanding in this matter,” said Mr Madekutsikwa.

“We assure the court that as soon as we get the responses that were are waiting for, the accused will be furnished with a trial date and the matter will be brought to finality.”

Mr Madekutsikwa told the court that the docket was available, albeit incomplete.

“We will suffer prejudice as this is a matter of national interest,” he said.

“The citizens need to see that justice is done. If accused are released, a wrong signal would be sent to the citizens of this country.

“We need to see the matter to finality while accused are on remand. There is no fear that they will abscond since they are on bail. The accused are said to have transacted with three jurisdictions and without evidence from the three jurisdictions, we have no case.

“That evidence will show where those funds went and the purposes of the funds. That actually forms the basis of the charge the accused are facing and without that evidence, the case will fall.”

Harare regional magistrate Mr Taurai Manwere is expected to make a ruling today. – state media

Kaizer Chiefs forward Khama Billiat will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery to treat a groin problem.
