French National Team Players Fall Sick Ahead Of World Cup Final

By-Several France players have caught colds ahead of their World Cup final against Argentina tomorrow.

Citing the French Football Federation, France 24 reports that defenders Raphaël Varane and Ibrahima Konaté are said to be the latest to fall ill on Friday.

Varane, Konaté and striker Kingsley Coman were all sidelined as Les Bleus were preparing to take on Lionel Messi’s Argentina.

The development sparked further fears of a mystery virus in the French camp after two players – midfielder Adrien Rabiot and defender Dayot Upamecano – were ruled out of the semi-final win over Morocco.

Rabiot and Upamecano both returned to training on Friday. Manager Didier Deschamps refused to panic after Wednesday’s win and said they were being careful to ensure the illness did not spread. France 24’s Selina Sykes reported from Doha:

These are clearly not ideal circumstances, with so little time ahead of that big final against Argentina on Sunday. If there is a bit of a reassuring element to this so-called virus that is spreading within the French camp, it is that it only seems to last a few days.

France 24 sports journalist Romain Houeix said a lot of French journalists are in bad shape adding:

People have been coughing and feeling unwell for a week. We can’t say what it is; we’re working 15-hour days and we don’t have time to take tests.

It’s my theory that those players have Covid. In sport they tend to talk about sore throats when it’s possibly Covid and they haven’t been tested. Another theory is that it’s ‘camel flu’, a local virus.

Should Konaté and Varane be out for the final, however, Deschamps would face a difficult selection decision, as he would be without two of his top three defenders.

Mthuli Clashes With Mnangagwa

By-Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube has clashed with his Boss, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, on the government’s free education promises.

Mnangagwa has since last year been telling Zimbabweans that his government would be offering free primary education starting next year.

But the treasury boss says there is no money to fund free education.

Mthuli made the remarks in Parliament on Thursday. NewsDay quotes him as saying:

To fully transition to total free education, we have to undertake a thorough evaluation of requirements, identifying gaps to debate and implementation of activities that broaden coverage for education to every child. So, this is a process, we will get there because we have started but we are already doing a lot in terms of education access.

I have said earlier that provision of free education is a process, hence the budget increased allocation to the sector by 2,1% from the previous years.

In 2020, President Emmerson Mnangagwa signed into law the Education Amendment Act which compels the State to provide free basic education in line with provisions of section 27 of the Constitution. Section 27 reads:

The State must take all practical measures to promote (a) free compulsory basic education for children…

In his vote for the Primary and Secondary Education ministry, Ncube allocated $631.3 billion (US$976 million) towards providing quality infant, junior and secondary education with the bulk going towards teachers’ salaries and other learning costs.

During a Finance Bill budget debate, ZANU PF chief whip Pupurai Togarepi said the budget was insufficient to facilitate free education.

Teachers’ unions also said the budget set aside for free education was too little.

For years, the government has been promising free basic education but has failed to implement the policy.

Mnangagwa Admits Failure

By- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has admitted that his Zanu PF government has failed the people of Zimbabwe.

Mnangagwa confessed while officially opening the first phase of the US$7.4 million Madokero Mall and Sanganai Gated Complex units in Harare West.

 NewsDay quotes him as saying:

This is what we should have begun doing 40 years ago, but we were all sleeping, but the fund was there.

The PSC Pension Fund is not new, but what is new is what they are doing now. The pension fund invested in a hotel in Victoria Falls and is also working on a mini hydro-electricity plant in Masvingo expected to add five megawatts to the national grid.

All these resources are domestic resources and not from anywhere, we build our own country with our own resources and not from anywhere.

The projects are being funded under the Public Service Commission Pension Fund.

The event was attended by Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, Defence minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri and service chiefs.

Phase one of the Sanganai Gated Complex has 150 housing units, which have already been occupied, while phase two, which is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2023 will deliver 200 more units.

This comes as Zimbabwe is experiencing a deepening economic crisis characterised by a huge infrastructure deficit, power shortages and inflation.

Government critics attribute the rot to rampant corruption by political elites.

UK Jobs Scam: Nurse Aides Duped By Fraudsters

FOUR Abroad Gateway Studies employees were brought to court to answer fraud charges after purporting to be agents of United Kingdom-based Seren Health Care Solutions.
Makanaka Mukwesha, Fidelis Mazhindu, Crispen Gazimbe and Chelsea Makombe were not asked to plead when they appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

They will be back in court today for their bail ruling.

It is the State’s case that the complainant was looking for information regarding potential nurse aide employers, when he got information that Abroad Gateway Studies could help him.

It is alleged that the company masqueraded as agents which recruit interested nurse aides to work in the UK.

The court heard that the complainant then contacted Mazhindu who directed him to their office.

On October 26, the complainant went to the office, where he was told to pay US$500 as administration fee, and submit a police clearance, TB test, nurse aide certificate, IELTS certificate and proof of residence.

He was also told that he would wait for 21 days, after submission, while the documents were being processed.

The complainant then made the payment and was added to a group with 71 other participants.

He was also told to pay £2 000 for a plane ticket, rentals and visa appointment.

It is further alleged that on November 8, the complainant received a phone call from Makombe, who indicated that there was a new requirement.

He was told he should pay £1 000 as a security fee before receiving a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS), and the balance, after receiving it.

The complainant paid the money. He was then made to sign a non-disclosure agreement on November 11.

It is further alleged that on November 23, he was called and told that his support letters were ready.

He went to the office where he met the quartet. He was told that he would start work next year.

However, the complainant became suspicious when the organisation started to shift dates.

The complainant inquired from a friend abroad, to check if the company existed and recruited nurse aides.

The complainant was told that the company belonged to Stella Chimano, who is based in the UK.

Chimano advised the complainant to report the matter to the police and the quartet was arrested.

The complainant lost US$2 900 and nothing was recovered. Pardon Dziva prosecuted. —H Metro

Hwindi Bites ZRP Cop

A 25-year old tout from Cowdray Park suburb in Bulawayo has been arrested for allegedly biting a police officer who had arrested him for touting for passengers.
Nhlanhla Khumalo appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Busani Sibanda facing charges of touting for passengers and assault.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to 30 December 2022.

Allegations against Khumalo are that on 23 November 2022 and at around 12.50pm, Marvelous Ndlovu and his colleagues were on duty patrolling in the city centre in civilian attire when they approached 6th Avenue and saw Khumalo touting for passengers.

The police officers reportedly disguised themselves as potential passengers and boarded the Honda Fit that was going to Matopo.

When they got into the car, they identified themselves and told Khumalo that he was under arrest.

They then ordered him to go with them to Bulawayo Central Police Station.

Khumalo reportedly defied the instruction when he drove his vehicle in a different direction and told the police officers that he was going to a mine in Matopo where he was going to teach them a lesson.

When he got to a robot-controlled intersection at 4th Avenue and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Street, Ndlovu tried to arrest him but he became violent.

Khumalo, the court heard, violently grabbed Ndlovu’s hand and allegedly bit him once.

The other police officers managed to arrest him. —B Metro

Release Wiwa, Mnangagwa Told

Tinashe Sambiri|The Citizens Coalition for Change ( CCC) has challenged Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa to release jailed party official Hon Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala and arrest criminals looting State funds.

Hon Sikhala was arrested on June 14 for denouncing the brutal murder of CCC activist Moreblessing Ali.

In a statement on Wednesday CCC said:

“FREE SIKHALA: Hon @JobSikhala1 was unlawfully arrested on 14 June. He has been in detention without trial for 183 days. He’s been denied bail over 10 times even though it’s a constitutional entitlement.

Let’s continue to demand his release. “

CCC youth taskforce spokesperson Sarkozy Chuma said :

“Hon Sikhala is not a criminal, the irony of the whole matter is that real bandits are lavishly feasting on State money out there.”

Mupedzanhamo Bounces In

Mupedzanhamo flea market in Mbare, Harare, is set to reopen during this festive season following Government’s intervention.
Probably Harare’s popular market, Mupedzanhamo has been closed for months following violent clashes instigated by CCC hooligans that led to the death of one Zanu PF member while several others were injured.

The Herald news crew yesterday visited the area and observed council workers clearing heaps of garbage that had accumulated in the working space and the surrounding environs.

Roads were still closed to motorists while a handful of traders could be seen engaging in cat and mouse chases with law enforcement agents that were assisting to restore sanity at the place.

In a statement yesterday, Permanent Secretary of Harare Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Mr Tafadzwa Muguti, said Mupedzanhamo flea market would be opened after proper renovations and upgrades as the Government was seized with the matter at the highest level.

“It is our hope that all procurement processes in the City of Harare run smoothly and urgently in order to address the much-needed renovations at Mupedzanhamo so the market can be reopened during this festive season.

“All tiers of Government namely, Central, provincial and local, have been incorporated into this whole of Government approach and are ably guided by Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga, who chairs the Enhanced Cabinet Committee,” he said.

The Office of Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution has no involvement in the allocation of tables and registration of potential traders as perpetuated by misinformed and misguided personnel, said Mr Muguti.

“Ultimately the decision of how Mupedzanhamo shall operate rests with Cabinet through a whole Government approach which includes the property owners, City of Harare.

“We will continue to stand by our zero tolerance to corruption policy and support all our informal traders as a Government,” he said.

Traders were warned against paying money to rogue elements that are already collecting money in the name of their political parties.

“We are aware that others have already started collecting names of potential traders purporting to have such authority from their political parties and associations.

“No lists will be entertained, we plan to have each interested trader paying directly to authorities and registering on their own through laid down whole of Government protocols which will be announced soon,” said Mr Muguti.

Harare City Council chairperson of Small to Medium Enterprises committee, Councillor Denford Ngadziore, said the market was expected to be re-opened next Tuesday. -Herald

Police Struggle To Justify President Chamisa Programme Ban

Tinashe Sambiri|Police have claimed they banned CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa’s tree planting event scheduled for Gutu North on Thursday due to “fear of possible violence.”

Police further claimed another political party had an event lined up in the same area.

See NewsDay report below:

POLICE blocked a tree-planting event scheduled for Thursday by the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in Gutu, Masvingo province on the basis that an unnamed political party is scheduled to hold a meeting in the area.

Police officer commanding Masvingo East district Joachim Mambure yesterday refused to disclose the name of the party that intended to hold the meeting.

The tree-planting event was scheduled to be held in ward 4, at Takaona homestead in Gutu North constituency. CCC leader Nelson Chamisa was scheduled to lead the event.

“We can’t allow two parties to hold political gatherings in the same ward on the same date,” Mambure said.

“There will be violence. Our duty as police is to maintain peace and order; hence we had to stop one party from holding the meeting.”

In a letter dated December 12, 2022, in response to the CCC notification of the event, Mambure ordered police in Gutu to monitor CCC to ensure it does not violate the prohibition order.

Part of the letter read: “For the avoidance of doubt, it is declared in terms of section 8(11) of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act [Chapter 11:23] that any person who knowingly opposes or fails to comply with this prohibition notice shall be guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding level 14 or imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year or both such fine and such imprisonment.” CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere accused Zanu PF of influencing police to interfere with their party activities.

“Zanu PF continues to abuse State institutions and the police service as demonstrated by the latest purported prohibition of our mass citizen tree-planting initiative billed for the countryside this week,” Mahere said.

“This initiative is part of our Green Zimbabwe Agenda which champions the creation of climate secure communities, protection of the environment and reforestation. It’s a matter of regret that Zanu PF is running scared of the citizens and is trying to interfere with a project that is good for the citizens and good for Zimbabwe. It proves beyond any doubt that Zanu PF knows it has lost popular support. The citizens have rejected it. It can never win a free and fair election; so it is resorting to violence, intimidation and weaponisation of the police and the law.”

Bhasikiti Arrested

Former Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister Kudakwashe Bhasikiti was Thursday remanded in custody after being arrested for rape.

Bhasikiti (60), a former ZANU PF Politburo member, is accused of raping a 12-year-old girl at an orphanage that he ran in Mwenezi.

He appeared before Mwenezi magistrate Faina Makumbe facing rape charges.

Bhasikiti was not asked to plead when he appeared in court on 15 December and was remanded in custody to 29 December.

He was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Bhasikiti will be transferred to Chiredzi Remand Prison as his case will now be heard at the Chiredzi Regional Court.

Allegations were that sometime in 2019, Bhasikiti went into a room at an orphanage that he ran at his farm in Mwenezi.

He allegedly approached the complainant and gagged her mouth with one of his hands.

Bhasikiti then allegedly forcibly removed her clothes before proceeding to rape her once and threatened unspecified action if she told anyone.

Police at Mwenezi police station arrested Bhasikiti after they received a tip-off about the alleged rape sometime this year.

Hardlife Machando prosecuted.

Bhasikiti served as Minister of State from 2013 until his expulsion from Government and ZANU PF in December 2014. | The Herald

Open Letter To Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa

Goromonzi Prospective Community Trust
Goromonzi

13 December 2022

The Chief Executive Officer

Goromonzi Rural District Council Lot A of Oakes
P.O. Box 95
Ruwa

Cc: The Goromonzi Rural District Administrator.

Dear Sir/ Madam
REF. LITHIUM AND GOLD SHOULD BENEFIT FIRST THE GOROMONZI COMMUNITY TOGETHER WITH EVERY ZIMBABWEAN BEFORE ANYONE ELSE.
This is our letter of engagement which should be responded by your office within 7 days. Failure to do that as a Community Trust we will engage the masses of Goromonzi and hear to what they deem the possible way forward in the area of their wealth which they value and strongly believe that these minerals should benefit Goromonzi Community and Zimbabweans first.

The extractive sector in Goromonzi district presents a huge opportunity for economic growth that is currently not being realized.

The Goromonzi area is likely to have more mineral reserves far higher especially lithium and gold, however Goromonzi and its inhabitants remains one of the poorest community in the country with a significant unemployment problem and most societal members in abject poverty.

The emphasis is to realise full value of our minerals so as to benefit the local people.

It’s unfortunate that the NSD1 Chapter 5 is blind and quiet on Lithium. Fortunately the Community Ownership Share comes into play as it clearly articulate that communities should have their 10%share.

The major highlight there is the community’s 10% ownership share. This is aimed at facilitating development in the area of mining and creating linkages between mining companies and communities. Nevertheless Goromonzi has never witnessed such arrangement, we don’t even have the knowledge of who was incorporated as the beneficiaries of that 10%. We are not going to allow corrupt individuals to loot our wealth and go away with it. We have made it our sole mandate that Goromonzi will never degenerate into the Marange zone where corrupt politicians in cohorts with Chinese firms plundered the precious stone and left the Marange community impoverished. We are rational people we will never allow ourselves to walk into a trap. History always repeats itself now it’s high time we recreate our future and secure the best for generations to come.
The most dangerous policy that was adopted by the government is that we Zimbabweans have no rights at all to extract lithium. It is the exact time we wake up and smell the coffee. How can the whole government agree to such a repressive and obnoxious law. We can’t allow that to happen in our lifetime. We are the people and all these minerals are in our custody and they should transform our community for the better.
Lately the people of Goromonzi were benefiting through small scale mining of minerals in the area, the government and its top officials (politicians) intervened and stopped panning of minerals to later hand over some concessions to Chinese companies. In that respect these companies are expected to take the responsibility of social and economic growth of the citizens in Goromonzi as per the NDS1 blueprint.
DEMANDS
As the community we implore the government and all mining companies in Goromonzi to:

  1. Allow citizens of Zimbabwe to have the right to extract lithium. We can’t allow Chinese firms to take everything whilst we are their cheap labour. We have teams ready to extract the mineral, and these were extracted from the community.
  2. Align their goals and culture to NDS1 which was initiated to promote new enterprise development, employement and job creation as well as strengthening social infrastructure and social nets.
  3. Environmental concerns.
Our environment should not be degraded under our watch. We know that a clear audit on the environment will expose how EMA has been drinking from a poisoned Chalice. EMA has allowed Goromonzi to be degraded by corrupt individuals who own Gold Claims and these individuals haven’t done anything meaningful for the community. We know them and we are coming for them.It is well-known that the most common and crucial environmental impact are discharge to soil and watercourse, in that it creates imbalance specifically the water balance. This remain the role and responsibility of mining companies in Goromonzi to address the issues of water supply as their companies are causing water pollution and shortages, for the betterment of the society this report serves to inform companies to take into cognisance the water imbalances in Goromonzi.
  4. Adherence to the provisions of society ownership and fostering Corporate Social Responsibility as a pillar and aims good corporate governance.
    Conclusions
The mining sector has become a cornerstone of the Zimbabwean economy throughout the years and the people are the ultimate beneficiaries. It is therefore imperative to acknowledge that the development of Goromonzi relies on the greater part on mining. The community must be respected. The march towards a 12 billion mining sector should not be faceless, such a development should be people centered so that no one is left behind.

Yours Faithfully

Prince Harry & Meghan Hire Zim Nanny

By- A Zimbabwean nanny has spoken about how she took care of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son, Archie.

Lorren Khumalo, from Zimbabwe, speaks in the couple’s new Netflix show, revealing she got a speeding ticket on the way to Frogmore Cottage after getting the call to work for the couple. The Daily Mail cites her as saying:

When I arrived at Frogmore cottage I see this guy he’s tall, he’s ginger and walking barefoot and I have got these new shoes from Clarks and suddenly whatever I thought or felt the formality just sort of slid and I felt so at ease.

The professional nanny currently works as a neonatal intensive care (NICU) and paediatric nurse at a private maternity hospital the Portland, in Westminster.

The Portland hospital is where royal women have given birth for generations and the palace where both Prince Harry and his son Archie were born.

After Archie’s birth, Meghan’s mother Doria was at Frogmore Cottage for a month and was present when her daughter brought Archie home from the hospital. The Duchess said:

But we were in a position where we didn’t have someone to help us with Archie.

Lorren recalled the day she was asked to work for the couple, saying:

I had this phone call and they were like “Prince Harry and Meghan want to see you, they want to talk to you about being a nanny to Archie.

I said, ‘Hang on I need to sit down’. I remember just driving so fast, I got a ticket actually, yes I did.

Lorren described how the couple were “really hands-on parents” and they would come in to see baby Archie in the morning, and feed him before the nanny would take over from them and take the newborn out for a stroll.

Lorren asked the couple if she could wrap Archie in a cloth, and Meghan enthusiastically agreed. The Duchess said:

She said is it OK if I tie him on my back with a mudcloth? Like we do in Zimbabwe? I said, “Yes let’s do that”.

She didn’t just take care of Archie she took care of us, she definitely took care of me.

The pair spoke about their first royal engagement after the birth of their first child, where they took Archie with them on a tour to South Africa when he was just four months old.

Lorren described the tour as “full on” and said:

It was a lot of pressure, the tour was full on. I thought how are you doing this? And still have a smile on your face, because she did smile.

The first three episodes of Harry & Meghan – part of the Sussexes’ multi-million-dollar deal with Netflix – were streamed last week, with the final three hour-long episodes streaming from Thursday.

The Sussexes’ six-part show – which forms part of their multimillion-pound deal with Netflix – has become the streaming giant’s most-watched documentary in a premiere week, debuting with 81.55 million hours viewed.

Mudzuri Speaks On Rigged MDC Congress

By- MDC deputy president Elias Mudzuri has said that he is not contesting next week’s party’s congress.

The Douglas Mwonzora-led opposition’s elective congress is set for 18 December 2022.

Mudzuri was reportedly planning to challenge party president Douglas Mwonzora before the latter was in November unanimously nominated as the sole presidential candidate at the party’s 5th Ordinary Congress. In a Twitter post on Thursday, 15 December, Mudzuri said:

Let me reiterate what I stated earlier. I will not stand for any position at the 18 December MDC Congress.

I will only participate in a process where the branches, wards, districts, and provinces are involved by exercising their constitutional right to choose their leaders.

Earlier this month, Mudzuri said that he will not be contesting for any post at the congress citing irregularities in the party’s electoral processes.

Speaking to TellZim News, Mudzuri said he will not leave the party but will remain a card-carrying and loyal member of the party. He said:

I am ashamed of what is happening right now but I cannot run away from the party, I have talked to them and I will continue to talk to them but if they don’t listen, I will remain a card-carrying member as I cannot be part of the leadership which fails to observe the democratic tenets of the party.

I can be nominated for any position in the party and have at some point assumed the leadership of the party as you know when Mr (Morgan) Tsvangirai died, he left me in charge of the party.

Portugal Fire Head Coach

Portugal FA has fired the national team coach following Selecao’s elimination from the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The team lost to Morocco 1-0 in the quarterfinal clash played last week.

According to reports in Portugal, the FA terminated the gaffer’s contract, which had two years left before it expired, following talks between the two parties.

The sacking ends an eight-year tenure in which the 68-year-old coach delivered two trophies for the team – first the 2016 European Championship and then the 2019 League of Nations.

Meanwhile, the publication states that AS Roma coach José Mourinho is the FA’s top choice to succeed Santos.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Disability And Health

A new report by the World Health Organization shows evidence of a higher risk of premature death and illness among many persons with disabilities compared to others in the society.

The Global report on health equity for persons with disabilities published today shows that because of the systemic and persistent health inequities, many persons with disabilities face the risk of dying much earlier—even up to 20 years earlier—than persons without disabilities.

They have an increased risk of developing chronic conditions, with up to double the risk of asthma, depression, diabetes, obesity, oral diseases, and stroke. Many of the differences in health outcomes cannot be explained by the underlying health condition or impairment, but by avoidable, unfair and unjust factors.

Launched ahead of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the report shows the number of people with significant disabilities worldwide has risen to 1.3 billion (or 1 in 6 people). This number reinforces the importance of achieving full and effective participation of persons with disabilities in all aspects of society and embedding the principles of inclusion, accessibility and non-discrimination in the health sector.

Unfair factors: a key cause of disparities in health
The report stresses the need for urgent action to address the vast inequities in health caused by unjust and unfair factors within health systems. These factors—which account for many of the differences in health outcomes between persons with and without disabilities—could take the form of:

negative attitudes of healthcare providers,
health information in formats that cannot be understood, or
difficulties accessing a health centre due to the physical environment, lack of transport or financial barriers.

“Health systems should be alleviating the challenges that people with disabilities face, not adding to them,” said WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

“This report shines a light on the inequities that people with disabilities face in trying to access the care they need. WHO is committed to supporting countries with the guidance and tools they need to ensure all people with disabilities have access to quality health services.”

With an estimated 80% of persons with disabilities living in low- and middle-income countries where health services are limited, addressing health inequities could be challenging. Yet even with limited resources, much can be achieved.

Opportunities for a disability-inclusive health sector
Recognizing that everyone has the same right to the highest attainable standard of health, the report provides important economic analysis of adopting a disability-inclusive approach.

It shows investing in a disability-inclusive health sector is cost-effective.

WHO calculates that governments could expect a return of about US$ 10 for every US$ 1 invested on disability-inclusive noncommunicable disease prevention and care. In addition, family planning and vaccination are cost–effective when implemented in a disability-inclusive manner.

Targeted and comprehensive actions across the health sector
The report outlines 40 actions across the health sector for governments to take, drawing on the latest evidence from academic studies as well as consultations with countries and civil society, including organizations representing persons with disabilities. These actions vary by resource level and range from addressing physical infrastructure to training of health and care workers.

Ensuring health equity for persons with disabilities will also have wider benefits and can advance global health priorities in 3 ways:

health equity for all is critical towards achieving universal health coverage;
inclusive public health interventions that are administered equitably across different sectors can contribute to healthier populations; and
advancing health equity for persons with disabilities is a central component in all efforts to protect everyone in health emergencies.
“Addressing health inequities for persons with disabilities benefits everyone,” said Dr Bente Mikkelsen, WHO Director for Noncommunicable Diseases. “Older persons, people with noncommunicable diseases, migrants and refugees, or other frequently unreached populations, can benefit from approaches that target the persistent challenges to disability inclusion in the health sector.”

She added: “We urge governments, health partners and civil society to ensure all health sector actions are inclusive of persons with disabilities so that they can enjoy their right to the highest standard of health.”

Kudakwashe Bhasikiti Arrested

| The Herald

Police Give Flimsy Excuse For Banning President Chamisa Tree Planting Programme

Business Tips: Running A Mining Venture

Business Correspondent

Mining is a form of business that is not understood by many people.

In mining it is important to work with individuals with expertise and relevant knowledge.

The presentation below was prepared by Three Wingers Enterprises. The company provides mining consultancy services, housing services, business consultancy and networking for farmers, among other services…

Steps to keeping your Mining as professional and still small
Mining is a business just like any other business .

1 Hire people who understand Mining in everything not relatives and friends even your wife and children.

Hire a qualified manager with knowledge of small scale Mining ( not necessarily from school of mines ) or train one for yourself.

Manager is key to mine administration, record keeping , production analysis and decision making, meeting Mining officers , hiring relevant workers and most of all keeping gold and administrating capital.

2 Take your time understand Mining yourself manager shouldn’t be ahead of you buy books about Mining laws like a mines and minerals act . Explosives act , gold trade act .

3 Take informed risks invest capital for learning through venture called sponsorship for less than 2000usd even 500usd buy things like explosives , cyanide, diesel, tank construction or buy a compressor and visit regularly and learn more to invest more .

I call this phase investing to learn profit is bonus . The more you visit and prepared to learn the more you increase chances of winning.

4 understand the meaning of Mining compliance inorder to avoid conflict with law officers and increase your chances of making profit
5 know all risky adventures in the mining sector. Only sell value property to fund a mine when you are a guru .

6 when you have understood the game invest more in equipment to speed a process you understand and make money
7 if possible go to school of mines for short courses after you have understood small scale Mining full .

8 look for other forms of making money in the mining sector without having to mine below are opportunities you can explore preferably with us

Mnangagwa Folds Hands As Chinese Investors Seize Land

Release Wiwa, Arrest Criminals Stealing State Cash, CCC Tells Mnangagwa

Country Is Only Built By Its Owners, Mnangagwa’s Destroying What Ian Smith, Rhodes Assembled

“Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo” insist Mnangagwa – Reality, Zimbabwe is a failed state in ruins, mocks him

By Nomusa Garikai  | On Monday, 12 December 2022, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated four Zimbabwean individuals and two Zimbabwean entities, and removed seventeen Zimbabweans from the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List (SDN List).

“We urge the Zimbabwean government to take meaningful steps towards creating a peaceful, prosperous, and politically vibrant Zimbabwe, and to address the root causes of many of Zimbabwe’s ills: corrupt elites and their abuse of the country’s institutions for their personal benefit,” explained Under Secretary of the Treasury Brian E. Nelson.

“The goal of sanctions is behavior change. Today’s actions demonstrate our support for a transparent and prosperous Zimbabwe.”

The Zanu PF regime was completely taken by surprise as it clearly thought it was winning the fight to have the sanctions lifted. SADC and AU leaders had all been blaming the sanctions for Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown and calling for their unconditional removal.

The evidence on the ground shows that it is the gross mismanagement and rampant corruption which are the primary causes of the economic meltdown. 42 years of corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship had left the country in economic ruins and political paralysis.

In a healthy and functioning democracy, the people would have removed the corrupt and incompetent Zanu PF from office. Sadly, Zimbabwe is not a healthy democracy, Zanu PF has blatantly rigged elections since 1980 to retain power. The nation is stuck with the regime.

The Zanu PF regime is upset to hear the Americans are determined to retain the sanctions and demands for free and fair elections, especially when the regime thought it was winning everybody over. The regime has reacted angrily, shooting from the hip!

“What the @ US Dept of State has done is an act of cowardice & undoubtedly barbaric conduct that falls below the diplomatic bar,” fired Zanu-PF information director Tafadzwa Mugwadi on twitter.

“It clearly reflects a demented superpower that has gone rogue, now aiming at non-assuming global citizens like Emmerson Jnr, a Chimuka & an unknown housewife.

“Anyway, needless to remind them that President Mnangagwa has reminded us that with or without sanctions, nyika inovaka navene vayo (a country is built by its owners).”

How much longer can Mnangagwa keep up the propaganda he is building Zimbabwe when the reality on the ground shows a failed country in ruins! Mugabe thought he could bluff and bamboozle everyone into believing he was delivering economic prosperity for all and was overwhelmed by the reality on the ground and forced to shut up!

Mugabe was so cocksure his Scientific Socialism policies would deliver mass economic prosperity, “Gutsa ruzhunji!” as he called it, he never tired of saying it throughout the 1980s. These were the usual voodoo economic policies centred on reckless spending especial by the ruling elite. There was nothing scientific in that!

By the end of the 1980s the economy was already in serious trouble and government asked for financial assistance from IMF and WB in the form of the 1990 to 1995 Economic Structural Adjustment Programmes (ESAP), designed to end the reckless spending and kick-start the economic revival.

The programme failed to revive the economy because Zanu PF reduce its spending on programmes affecting the masses but continued with the reckless spending to appease the ruling elite. The second five-year ESAP was agreed it too failed to revive the economy for the same reasons – the regime continued to savage cuts to programmes affecting the masses who forced to tighten their belts whilst the chefs loosened their belts.

By the mid-1990s the economy was now in deep trouble, unemployment was high, wages were low, the quality of basic services such as education and health care were very poor, etc. The standard of living for the majority of Zimbabweans had fallen both qualitatively and quantitatively. There was mass poverty and it was nonsensical to talk of “Gutsa ruzhinji!!” and so Mugabe was forced to drop, until then, his favourite phrase!

Indeed, “Gutsa ruzhinji” and “scientific Socialism” were now used to mock Mugabe.

When Mnangagwa took over the leadership from Mugabe following the November 2017 military coup he was cocksure his “Zimbabwe is open for business!” would open the floodgates of investors and financial assistance the nation had been starved of  the last two decades. He was sure his promise to stamp out corruption and to hold free elections would reassure everyone that Zimbabwe was no longer the corrupt and tyrannical pariah state of Mugabe days. He even insisted in calling his administration a “new democratic dispensation” “Second Republic”. No one was fooled, especially the shrewd investors.

Mnangagwa failed to stamp out corruption, who could he when he is the godfather of corruption and so are all his friends who propelled him into high office.

Zanu PF would never win a free and fair elections. It was inconceivable that he and his fellow November 2017 coup plotters would risk all to stage a coup and wrestle power from Mugabe only to hand it over in a silver platter to others when it was in their power to rig the elections and retain power. And so no one in their right mind was surprised that Mnangagwa did not bother to implement even one token reform to keep his promise to hold free and fair elections.

And so Mnangagwa’s “Zimbabwe is open for business!” was a lead balloon that never took off because everybody could see that Zimbabwe was still a pariah state ruled by the same corrupt, incompetent, murderous and vote rigging thugs or be it with a new dictator and a few other musical-chair changes.

Zimbabwe is a failed state because it is a pariah state and as long as the country remains a pariah state there will be no meaningful economic and political change. How long can Mnangagwa continue to boast of developing and building Zimbabwe when the hospitals, power stations and the rest of the infrastructure Zanu PF inherited from the whites in 1980 are falling apart due to neglect whilst there is precious little of public value the regime has built.

The Zimbabwe Daily had a cartoon of a woman putting neglected ZESA powerlines to some use as drying lines for her washing. In the background is a large elections campaign poster with Mnangagwa promising to electrify the whole country!

Of course, Zanu PF will not win if the elections are free, fair and credible; no one will believe Zanu PF is building the country when all one can see is ruins of whatever the nation inherit from the whites in 1980! To stay in power Zanu PF has no choice but to rig the elections.

The goal of the sanctions is to force the Zanu PF to accept the need to implement the democratic reforms to ensure free and fair elections, “behaviour change” as the American aptly put it. The sanctions must stay.

The sanctions are not going to force Zanu PF to implement the reforms, it is too late for that. Retaining the sanction will remind Zanu PF that the regime will be held to account if the 2023 elections are not free and fair; evidence on the ground points to the regime is rigging these elections. This time the regime must be denied political legitimacy if the elections are rigged.

If Zanu PF is denied political legitimacy then the country will be forced to have another GNU as happened in 2008. The difference is, this time the nation will appoint competent leaders who will implemented the reform and thus finally end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance.  – SOURCE: zsdemocrats.blogspot.com

VP Chiwenga Dead End On Career?

By Farai D Hove | Vice President Conatantino Chiwenga has reached a dead end in his career?

Cheating Candidates Nabbed

By A Correspondent- Nearly 590 suspects were caught cheating while sitting for November 2022 Ordinary and Advanced Level final examinations, the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) has said.

This was after Zimsec unleashed Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) officers to fish out the cheats and the criminals behind the widely publicised examination paper leaks that rocked this year’s end of year “O” and “A” Level examinations.

Zimsec deputy director Farai Zisengwe and Education ministry director Barnabas Mangosho yesterday told the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Education led by Honourable Torerai Moyo that despite the progress on the issue of leaked papers, the matter has not yet been concluded.

“This is an issue which has not been concluded. We are doing the assessment and we are marking to identify these cheats,” Zisengwe said.

“About 588 candidates were caught along the way, but we believe there are more who will be caught during the marking period.

The board is going to be seized with the issue and we can confidently say Advanced Level results will be out early January, but for Ordinary Level we cannot say the same.”

A number of examination papers leaked before students sat for their final “O” and “A” Level examinations last month.

Government localised public school examinations in the late 1990s after scrapping the Cambridge examination system, but frequent leaks have dented Zimsec’s credibility.

Government once said it intended to install geographic positioning systems software on boxes containing examination papers to curb paper leaks, but the scam has continued unabated.

According to police, the recent leaks could be traced to Zimsec offices in Harare.

Mangosho, however, disputed that the leaks could be traced to Zimsec.

“No November 2022 question paper leaked from Zimsec because of the security protocols that were put in place. It is regrettable that a member-in-charge of the police in Gutu posted on social media that the question papers had leaked from Zimsec yet there was no evidence of such,” Mangosho said.

He said Zimsec engaged CIO officers to trace the leaks, leading to the sized of cellphones from candidates and arrest of criminals that were involved in the selling and buying of question papers.

“Zimsec has requested the amendment of the Zimsec Act to [to provide for] a mandatory custodial sentence for leaking question papers since 2019,” Mangosho said.

“This is a prohibitive tool which is vitally important to curb the leaking of examination question papers. Most of the convicted criminals have been given community service. This is not commensurate with the impact of the problems caused by the leaking of question papers.

“There has been an erosion of the integrity of some of our heads of schools and this has caused problems in the keeping of question papers. Cluster points are selected schools which have heads of schools who should be of integrity.”

In December 2020, a Zimsec clerk was dragged to court on charges of stealing  and selling a copy of the October-November Economics Paper 3. He stole the examination paper from the printing press.

Chef On The Run After Raping Hooker

By- A Bulawayo hotel employee is reportedly on the run after allegedly raping a commercial sex worker he had hired for sex while on duty.

According to a source, the employee met the sex worker near his workplace and hired her for sex.

It is said the sex worker charged him US$10 for a short time and he agreed before he took her to the back of the hotel.
“He led her to one of the rooms where upon entering the lady demanded payment before they had sex but the suspect became violent and grabbed her before forcibly pushing her onto the bed.
“While he was sexually attacking her, the lady screamed and managed to push him away thereby causing him to ejaculate on her thighs,” the source said.
It is said after the act the lady demanded her money but the suspect refused to pay her.
After that the prostitute reported him to his superior but the boss could not help her. It is alleged that she then caused a scene at the hotel demanding to see the owner.
The bitter woman was reportedly demanding US$150 claiming it was compensation for having sex with her without protection but the suspect flatly refused to pay.
The aggrieved woman then dashed to Bulawayo Central Police Station and reported the matter.
Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident.
“We are investigating a case of rape where a man employed at a local hotel situated in the city centre is on the run for allegedly raping a 25-year-old woman,” she said. She appealed for information that could assist in the arrest of the alleged rapist.
“Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the suspect may contact any nearest police station or call us on 029-60358,”she said. Chronicle

Ushewokunze’s Small House Wants Properties After 27yrs

The complexities of the estate of the late national hero Dr Herbert Ushewokunze, and the problems of figuring out all the assets he held with disputed ownership, is haunting the heirs and beneficiaries of that estate who are still fighting succession battles over parts of the estate, nearly 30 years after his death.

The late minister Herbert Ushewokunze

Dr Ushewokunze, a former cabinet minister died on December 10, 1995 and was buried at the National Heroes Acre.

At the centre of the latest estate dispute is a United Kingdom-based nurse, Ms Georgina Dadirai Savanhu, who is fighting to retain three Bulawayo properties she claimed were donated to her by the national hero during the couple’s two-year relationship from 1981 to 1983.

During this time Dr Ushewokunze bought three properties in Bulawayo and registered them in Ms Savanhu’s name, but the problem is not as simple as just looking at a title deed as the executors and trustees of the estate say the three were always part of Dr Ushewokunze’s estate and just registered in another name to circumvent the Zanu PF leadership code. In any case there have already been High Court judgments that concern the stands, judgments Ms Savanhu wants reversed.

An additional complication is that there are claims she sold the property, or some of the property, although that purchaser is now also dead, and that some of the land was subdivided subsequently and sold again, creating a lengthening chain of potential ownership. So the estate of the buyer, Duncan Kona, is also involved. In Ms Savanhu’s case the fact that her name is on the title deeds means that the High Court will hear the case in full.

Ms Savanhu recently filed a lawsuit at the High Court citing the estate of Ushewokunze, Estate Late Duncan William Kona, Nomsa Hazel Ncube, Taruberekera Netsai Makhosazana, Dlamini Township Residents Association, Riverside Estate Trust, Ambrose Nzewi and Nonoti Properties. Bulawayo City Council, the Registrar of Deeds office in Bulawayo, the Surveyor General’s office in Bulawayo, the Sheriff of Zimbabwe and the Master of High Court were also cited, since they are the ones who will have to implement whatever the High Court decides.

Ms Savanhu, more than 27 years after the death of her former lover, wants the three properties excluded from the estate claiming they were donated to her. She also wants to set aside some High Court judgments pertaining to the three stands measuring a total of 40ha, claiming these judgments were made in error.

She claimed that following termination of her relationship with Dr Ushewokunze, the properties were left in her name because they had been bought for her as a gift.

The first round in the latest dispute went in favour of Ms Savanhu. In a judgment handed down on Wednesday, Justice Webster Chinamora threw out numerous preliminary points raised by the respondents seeking to block Ms Savanhu from being heard, paving way for the matter to be decided on the merits of the evidence and argument presented by both sides. The title deeds were the decisive factor in the hearing of this case.

Ms Savanhu, in her application, is also seeking orders declaring her owner of immovable property in question, that she did not enter into any agreement to surrender the immovable property to Dr Ushewokunze, that she never sold the immovable property to Mr Kona and that, therefore, any agreement of sale between Mr Kona and members of the Dlamini Township Residence Association and Riverside Estate Trust is invalid.

In addition, Ms Savanhu also wants an order declaring that the subdivision permit and all other official documents relating to the subdivision of the immovable property, which were issued in the name of Mr Kona in respect of the immovable property, to be deemed to have been issued to her.

Further, she wants an order directing that all purchasers of subdivisions of the immovable property, who purchased the same from Mr Kona, be directed to enter into agreements of sale with her, failing which they will be evicted from the immovable property.

In this regard, Justice Chinamora agreed with Ms Savanhu legal counsel that the averments made were relevant to warrant the court hearing arguments on the merit.

“The applicant is attempting to vindicate her rights in the immovable property, over which she holds title deeds. She acknowledges that the immovable property had been subdivided on account of what she terms as the unlawful and illegal actions of Mr Kona.

Instead of seeking the eviction of all those persons who purchased subdivisions from Mr Kona, Ms Savanhu is offering them an opportunity to regularise their standing with her, and only if they fail or refuse to do so will they then be evicted.

In her application, Ms Savanhu argued that unbeknown to her Dr Ushewokunze tried without success to transfer the three properties to her daughter Ms Makhosazana, although he seemed to have believed that transfer had been done.

Dr Ushewokunze then sold the properties to the late Mr Kona, who was made to believe that the properties were registered in the name of Ms Makhosazana.

While an agreement of sale between Makhosazana and Mr Kona dated June 4 1987 was prepared by Lazarus & Sarif law firm, it is disputed by Ms Makhosazana who denies contacting Mr Kona.

But in her affidavit Ms Makhosazana argued that she was in the UK at the time of the alleged agreement of sale, and that she never owned the properties in dispute.

Until Dr Ushewokunze’s death in 1995, no legal proceedings to recover or transfer ownership of the properties from Ms Savanhu were instituted and title remained in her name to date. Ms Savanhu argued that the agreement dated July 4, 1987 purportedly signed between her and Mr Kona was fraudulent, since Mr Kona did not even know of her existence until early to mid-1990s.

But the Estate of Dr Ushewokunze wanted to bar Ms Savanhu from being heard arguing her application was an abuse of court process, because it concerns, in part, efforts to set aside a default judgment that was granted against her in 2000, arguing that she sat on her laurels for almost two decades, and that therefore, she could not now be allowed to sue.

But Justice Chinamora found that Ms Savanhu only became aware of various acts of fraud and unlawful attempts to disenfranchise her of the immovable property, towards the end of 2020.

It was the discovery of these facts between October 2020 and December 2020 that prompted Ms Savanhu to rush to court and Justice Chinamora ruled that it was not a proper characterisation of the application to state that the cause of action arose 20 years ago.

In his view, Justice Chinamora said there are critical issues that stand to be decided in the application, particularly because the immovable property is registered in Ms Savanhu’s name.

“The court cannot turn a blind eye to her allegations of ownership of the immovable property,” he said. “At the very least, they must be interrogated. Her claim does not appear to me to be frivolous or to constitute an abuse of court process.”-state media

Former Minister Jailed For Rape

By-Former Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister Kudakwashe Bhasikiti was Thursday remanded in custody after being arrested for rape.

Croatia Coach Unhappy With Penalty Awarded To Argentina

Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic has commented on the disputed penalty given to Argentina in their Tuesday’s FIFA World Cup semifinal clash.

The South Americans were awarded the penalty after Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic collided with Julian Alvarez.

Lionel Messi took the kick and converted it to open the scoring in the encounter.

Speaking after the game, Dalic said the penalty changed the complexion of the match as they went on to lose 3-0.

He said: “We conceded a goal, which was very suspicious. The situation leading to the penalty… it was a little too cheap, a bit too easy to be honest.

“Our goalkeeper did what he did and these are the new rules. This goal took the match in a different direction.”

On his team’s performance, Dalic added: “We have to pull ourselves together, raise our heads. I can’t blame the boys for anything – we are going into the fight for third place.

“We don’t have much to complain about.”- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

ED HOMETOWN CHAOS: Clerk Takes Over Mayor’s House

Kwekwe Town Clerk Dr Lucia Mnkandla has moved into the local authority’s mayoral mansion in a move that is likely to anger councillors.
Located in the leafy Hazeldine suburb, the mansion had been lying idle for more than five years after being last occupied by the then mayor, Alderman Matenda Madzoke.

Councillor Angeline Kasipo who took over from Alderman Madzoke turned down the offer to move into the mansion just like the incumbent Cllr Future Titora who chose to remain at her house in Mbizo suburb.

Councillors resolved that the house would be refurbished and converted into a lodge which would generate income for the local authority.

In a sudden turn of events Dr Mnkandla, who was appointed substantive town clerk last year, took over the house after major renovations had been done and has been staying there for about three weeks now.

Director of Housing and Community Services, Mr Edson Chiyangwa confirmed the development yesterday.

“She moved into the house because she has been appointed substantive Town Clerk. We could not find a suitable house for her hence she had to move into this council house which has been lying idle,” said Mr Chiyangwa.

He said before Dr Mnkandla moved into the Mayoral Mansion, council had been renting a house for her.

“We had been forking out about US$500 per month to rent a house for her so we decided that she moves into this house instead of spending a lot of money constructing a house for her,” he said.

Mr Chiyangwa said the mayor turned down the offer to move into the house choosing to remain at her house in Mbizo suburb.

He said the house is not big enough to be a lodge.

“We also discovered that the house is not big enough to be converted into a lodge hence we shelved the idea,” he said.

Acting Mayor, Councillor Pikurai Msipa said councillors were yet to be informed about the new development.

“We are yet to be informed about this new development you are talking about because we are just hearing about it in the corridors. What I understand is that our decision as councillors was to convert that house into a lodge,” said Cllr Msipa.

The mayoral mansions used to be occupied by executive mayors but Government has since reverted to ceremonial mayors. –state media

The man refused to pay. The irate woman used a cigarette lighter to burn the boot of the car.
The fire was, however, quickly put out by witnesses. “The guy failed to pay US$10 and the lady burnt the car.

Mbudziyadhura Quits Stage

By- Prominent actor Mbudziyadhura, whose real name is Blessing Chimhowa, has quit acting.

Mbudziyadhura leaves the stage after spending close to three decades in the arts industry.

Chimhowa first made the revelation on Tuesday afternoon via a social media post. The 48-year-old wrote on Facebook:

I am quitting acting because ever since I tried to make a comeback, I have never enjoyed acting the way I used to do, the feeling is gone, it is no longer there, and I was not myself.

I have to be selfish and consider my happiness; that is the main reason I am quitting. I am no longer enjoying this thing despite the fact that I acted for the past three decades or so.

Speaking in an interview with The Herald, the Gweru-based actor revealed that the reason for quitting was a lack of proper endorsements and financial security. Said Chimhowa:

The main reason for quitting acting was to find happiness. I no longer feel happy playing or acting anymore.

In Zimbabwe, acting and the arts, in general, are more like part-time rather than full-time jobs.

Yes, I am a brand now and during those days, I was happy doing it and also when corporate sponsorship used to sustain the television drama series back in the day, but now things are different.

As such I can conclude that lack of proper endorsements and financial security has resulted in my retirement from acting.

Out of love for acting, I entertained people for free, sometimes I would take up gigs on pro-bono.

When that is done, I go home having made people happy but feeling empty inside.

I have been acting for more than 30 years, but professionally on stage and on screen, we can date it closer to 1998.

Chimhowa rose to fame after he replaced actor Collen Dube, who acted as John Banda in the once-popular drama series Gringo following his death in 1999.

Award-winning Gringo series producer Enock Chihombori said he needed someone who was totally different from Banda and a fresh new character, Mbudziyadhura, hit the small screen on national television ZBC TV. | The Herald

Makandiwa Evicts 300 Families

By- United Family International Church (UFIC) founder, Emmanuel Makandiwa, has given more time to illegal settlers on a piece of land belonging to his church congregants to remove the structures and their materials.

On 19 September 2022, UFIC secured a court order to demolish about 300 illegal structures built on the piece of land in Retreat, Harare South.

The land belongs to UFIC congregants for a housing scheme, Operation Nehemiah Housing Project.

The squatters were supposed to be evicted within 48 hours from 21 November when they were served with an eviction order.

However, Makandiwa intervened and stopped the evictions and demolitions to give the squatters enough time to remove the structures on their own.

This was said by UFIC spokesperson Pastor Prime Kufa. He said:

The Man of God implored us to consider the plight of the affected families notwithstanding the fact that they are illegal settlers.

He instructed us to ask the Sheriff to give the settlers time to pull down their structures and rescue their belongings.

He said he is touched by their situation and also felt the anxiety among our church members who are bonafide owners of the land, thus his bid to find a win-win solution.

Look, it is the rainy season, it’s really a difficult situation but the Prophet believes the temporary reprieve will give the settlers some time to find alternative accommodation.

The settlers told NewsDay that they were grateful Makandiwa considered their plight and desperation. | NewsDay

Food Crisis At Ingutsheni Mental Hospital

By A Correspondent- Inmates at Ingutsheni Mental Hospital, a few kilometres outside Bulawayo, are reportedly facing a food crisis as government has failed to honour its obligation to fund the mental health institution.

The hospital’s chief medical officer, Nemache Mawere confirmed yesterday that the food situation at the institution was dire as Treasury has not released the $126 million allocated for the centre’s food supplies.

“I can confirm that our food supply is not enough as we are running out. We held a meeting and we saw that there is great need to improve our food supplies. We submitted a request to the relevant government bodies and we are still waiting for the funds which were promised,” Mawere said.

“I can also confirm that if we don’t get the funds by the end of this week, we are going to run out and it is going to be bad. We are always in touch with relevant government bodies about this issue and we are hoping it is going to be solved as soon as possible. We submitted the request for the funds, due diligence was done and we are waiting for the government to release the funds, hoping that it will not be too late,” he said, adding that donors were welcome.

“We have always accepted donations, our doors are always open to everyone who wishes to make a donation to the institution.”

Recently, the mental hospital recorded an increase in patients suffering from alcohol, drugs and substance abuse.- Southern Eye

Rude South African Minister Tells Flood Victims She Is Not God To Predict Disasters

Human settlements minister Mmamoloko Kubayi set tongues wagging online after reportedly telling complaining flood victims in Soweto she is not God and cannot predict disasters.

Soweto residents are picking up the pieces after heavy rain brought floods to Gauteng at the weekend.

At least 2,000 households in Soweto are estimated to have been affected by the flash floods.

The Citizen reported residents launched an attack on Kubayi after  her comments about not being able to predict disasters.

The minister was quoted as saying: “I don’t know what they want me to come [to do]. If I was God, I would predict the disasters and come and protect [them], but I cannot do that.

“My responsibility is when disasters have happened to see if people are homeless and assist in providing shelter.”

Scores online slammed the minister for being “arrogant” and “insensitive”.

ActionSA Gauteng chairperson Bongani Baloyi said the party would write to Gauteng premier Panyaza Lesufi to ask for a provincial state of disaster be declared.

Baloyi said there is sufficient precedent for Johannesburg to be spared power cuts as eThekwini was exempt from load-shedding after floods in April.

“We implore the Gauteng government to act with haste and not wait eight months and for court filings to be made to act, as was the case in KwaZulu-Natal.

“While we appreciate flooding could not be avoided, we are equally mindful rains fell on poorly maintained infrastructure, most notably stormwater drainage systems. Of equal concern are human settlements that are irrationally built or left to mushroom on flood plains which are most affected by torrential rains,” Baloyi said.

He said all these factors contributed to a disaster and the provincial government should declare it as such so the necessary resources could be made available to assist the residents most affected.

“Local, provincial and national government need to work together to support our communities and prepare for future disasters as the effects of climate change start to become more and more frequent.”

Zanu PF Tears Into “Demented” United States Of America

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF Director of Information, Tafadzwa Mugwadi has described the United States of America as a “demented superpower” after it recently imposed sanctions on four Zimbabwean nationals.

On Monday, the US Treasury Department added President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son, Emmerson Mnangagwa Jnr, Kudakwashe Tagwirei’s wife Sandra Mpunga, Nqobile Magwizi, and Obey Chimuka to the sanctions list.

Two companies controlled by Chimuka, Fossil Agro and Fossil Contracting, were also sanctioned by the U.S. for their alleged involvement with Sakunda, which is owned by Tagwirei.

Mpunga is the executive director of Sakunda and Magwizi is the chief marketing officer, according to a statement by the U.S. Treasury.

Posting on Twitter in response to the development, Mugwadi said the United States of America has gone rogue. He wrote:

What the @ US Dept of State has done is an act of cowardice & undoubtedly barbaric conduct that falls below the diplomatic bar.

It clearly reflects a demented superpower that has gone rogue, now aiming at non-assuming global citizens like Emmerson Jnr, a Chimuka & an unknown housewife.

Anyway, needless to remind them that President Mnangagwa has reminded us that with or without sanctions, nyika inovaka navene vayo (a country is built by its owners).
The designation of the four Zimbabweans and two Zimbabwean companies was announced one day before U.S. President Joe Biden hosted nearly 50 Heads of State from the African continent for the US-Africa Leaders summit.

“We Have Not Signed Anything”: Makarati’s Manager

By A Correspondent- Soccer Star of the Year second runner-up Frank Makarati’s camp has refuted reports that he has signed a two-year contract extension with Harare giants Dynamos (DeMbare).

Dynamos have been looking to pin down the star defender whose contract expires at the end of the month.

Makarati has been one of the key players for DeMbare in the just ended season as the team finished third and is understood to have a subject of interest from local clubs and those beyond borders.

Dynamos spokesperson Tinashe Farawo bizarrely announced on his Facebook page on Tuesday night that Makarati has agreed to stay at the club for the next two years.

However, Makarati’s manager Trust Nyambiya said it was a huge blunder on the part of Dynamos to make an inaccurate announcement.

“This is a huge mistake by Dynamos because we have not signed anything with them as yet. The agreement we made is that Frank will not join any local team apart from Dynamos in the event that we don’t find a foreign club for him,” he told NewsDay Sport.

Look, Frank was Soccer Star of the Year second runner-up and at the age of 29 I think it is the right time to consider a big move for him outside the country. But the offer from Dynamos is quite good but we want to explore opportunities from outside the country.”

Premier Soccer League newcomers Simba Bhora were reportedly monitoring the player as well as South African Championship side Black Leopards.

“Zimbabweans Have Nothing To Save After Living Expenses”: Survey

By A Correspondent- The majority of Zimbabweans are no longer able to save and are struggling to meet daily living expenses due to rising poverty with most citizens borrowing for subsistence, a latest FinScope Consumer survey shows.

The survey was commissioned by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe.

The main barrier for not investing on saving relates to liquidity issues — adults reported having limited disposable incomes after living expenses or having no income. Lack of awareness or financial education is also a main barrier for not investing,” the report read.

According to the report, 58% of Zimbabweans have nothing to save after living expenses, while 29% have no income at all.

Meanwhile, credit consumption slightly declined by three percentage points from 42% in 2014 to 39% in 2022 largely driven by a drop in borrowing from friends and family.

However, the majority of the credit accessors (34%) borrow to meet living expenses, while 17% is for emergencies other than medical.

Another 17% borrows for medical emergencies either planned or unplanned, while 13% borrow for education or school fees.

According to the survey, the majority of the adult population earn small, inconsistent and irregular incomes.

Mass Exodus Of Teachers Looming As Britain Announces Call

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe could lose more qualified teachers to brain drain in the coming months after Britain said it will start recruiting teachers from the country and three other African nations.

Zimbabwean teachers are eligible for a qualified teacher status (QTS) in the United Kingdom with effect from 1 February 2023.

Qualified teacher status is a confirmation that one has the right training and meets the standards required to teach in most primary and secondary schools in England.

Local unions representing teachers on Wednesday warned that the country could face a mass exodus of teachers in the coming months.

Progressive Teachers Union Zimbabwe (PTUZ) secretary-general Raymond Majongwe said:

There are calls for teachers even in the southern African region countries such as Botswana and South Africa, among others.

This year alone, we have 15 teachers who have formally bid farewell to us, not talking of those who are silently packing their bags.

Teachers have also been captured by UK job vacancies. It is a sad story. Elderly teachers should be enjoying the fruit of their work in Zimbabwe, but they are going to other countries to work there.

We are suffering a serious brain drain in the country that will affect starting this year and beyond.

Zimbabwe National Union of School Heads secretary-general Munyaradzi Majoni said:

It is not surprising that we will see a massive exodus of teachers, even school heads and their deputies this coming year.

Teachers have been calling for better wages and the stampede to apply for the UK and other countries’ vacant posts is a cause of concern.

This is a wake-up call for the government, which should act with urgency to improve the conditions of service and retain the teachers.
Thousands of teachers have reportedly formed groups on social media where they share and access information on the opportunities since the UK announced that it will be recruiting teachers from Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwean teachers and other civil servants have been pushing the government to be paid pre-October 2018 salaries of at least US$540, but the government says it doesn’t have the money. | NewsDay

“Prioritise ECD Teacher Recruitment”: Govt Urged

By A Correspondent- Government should prioritise the construction of school infrastructure and recruitment of teachers for early childhood development (ECD), Senators said on Tuesday.

Moving a motion on the construction of school infrastructure and recruitment of ECD teachers, Zanu PF Senator for Manicaland province Dorothy Mabika said the sector was facing challenges of inadequate funding, shortage of classrooms, information communication technology equipment, teachers and reading materials.

The motion was seconded by Zanu PF Senator for Mashonaland Central, Eleven Kambizi.

“The architecture of our education system is a 2-7-4-2-structure, meaning two years of ECD, seven years of primary education, four years of secondary education and two years of higher secondary education,” Mabika said.

“The 92% literacy rate that we boast of is built on this structure. However, the latest population census has shown a significant increase in population, which, therefore, points to a requirement to increase school infrastructure and all the associated resources.

“As of March 2017, the sector had 427 800 learners taught by 4 000 teachers, with 5 800 more teachers required. Only 21,6% of those aged 36 to 59 months were attending the ECD programme. It was also identified that there is need to build the capacity of existing educational officials to provide a sound grounding in ECD philosophy, approaches and methods.”

Mabika implored Finance minister Mthuli Ncube to provide adequate financial resources for ECD programmes.

“To achieve or correct all of the above, one thing is very critical — funding. The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education needs to protect and emphasise its development plan to satisfy the ECD requirements,” he said.

Drunk Man Ignites Own 10months Old Baby

By A Correspondent- An enraged Beitbridge man allegedly killed his 10-month-old child after setting alight his home following a domestic dispute.

His wife, who was injured, reportedly escaped from the inferno with an older child.

It is understood that the man opened a gas cylinder in his house after severely assaulting his wife and set the house on fire. The baby was burnt beyond recognition.

The suspect, said to have been drunk, fled the scene and evaded residents who were chasing him.

The officer commanding Beitbridge Police District Chief Superintendent Tichaona Nyongo confirmed the incident, but did not give details.

He also did not disclose whether the suspect, only identified as Gibson, had been arrested.

.From a social media post that went viral in Beitbridge, it is understood Gibson, who appeared high on drugs, stabbed his wife with a knife on the hand.

He then released gas into the house and ignited it while his wife and children were inside.

Gvt Rescues Trio Trafficked To Oman

By A Correspondent- Government has rescued three female human trafficking victims after they were “unknowingly” transported to Oman for labour and s_əxual exploitation, a Harare magistrate heard yesterday.

This emerged after a human trafficking suspect, Tendai Muswe (30), was arraigned before magistrate Dennis Mangosi to answer to the human trafficking charge.

Muswe was remanded to today for bail application.

They then recruited the three victims after promising them high-paying hotel jobs. Visas and air tickets were processed, as well as medical reports.

The victims found themselves in Oman, instead of Dubai and only realised that they had been duped upon arrival at Muscat International Airport in Oman.

In Oman, they were received by Al Shihhi who confiscated their passports and drove them to an unknown location, where they were sold as house slaves.

The victims were allegedly subjected to domestic servitude; working round the clock for no pay, feeding on leftovers, and were subjected to s_əxual and physical abuse, and denied freedom of movement by being restricted indoors.

The matter only came to light when the victims reported their ordeal through Interpol, and relatives back home, in turn, reported the matter to the police for investigations, which led to the arrest of the accused.

Government then intervened and the victims were located and repatriated back to Zimbabwe.

Threesome Ends In Tragedy

By A Correspondent- The prison warder wanted more than just one woman for his night of passion and took both women to his place.

But the next morning the threesome came to a tragic end.

Maria Thathane (65) from Jericho in the North West said she never knew her daughter Goitsemang Thathane (31) was a magosha until after her death.

Maria said that her daughter was shot in the eye on 19 November and later died in hospital.

According to a 35-year-old co-s_əx worker of Goitsemang, they both went to the man in Letlhabile on 18 November and spent the night with him after he picked them up from the side of the road in Brits.

She said that on the day the man told Goitsemang that he wanted her for the night but after meeting them both, he insisted on a threesome. “We went to his place together.

“We had a night of boozing and s_əx that Thursday night,” said the woman.

She said the shooting happened on Friday at about 11am.

She said she was busy in the kitchen getting drinks and doing dishes while her friend was in the bathroom doing her hair.

The man was tidying his bedroom and later went to the bathroom.

“When I went to the bedroom to fetch hand lotion, I saw a small firearm on top of the bed,”

The man told me he wanted to clean the gun and took it.”

She said a few minutes later she heard a loud bang which sounded to her as if a transformer had blown up.

“When I rushed to check I saw my friend lying in a pool of blood and the man was saying, ‘what have I done? what have I done?’.

“He was still holding the firearm in his hand.”

The friend said the man told her he had shot Goitsemang by mistake and that he was sorry.

She said the man called his friend and they took Goitsemang to Letlhabile Clinic in the man’s car. An ambulance took her to hospital where she died.

Goitsemang’s mother said her daughter died on 20 November at the Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital.

Maria said when she went to Letlhabile Police Station to find out what had happened to her daughter, police told her Goitsemang sləpt with men for money and she was shocked.

“I want to know why the prison warder was cleaning the firearm loaded with ammunition. I still haven’t had answers about why and how my child died,” said Maria.

She said her daughter loved them and when she visited she brought them food and clothes.

Goitsemang was buried on Saturday, 3 December at Sephai Cemetery in Jericho.

North West police spokeswoman Colonel Amanda Funani said that a case was reported on 18 November at Letlhabile cop shop.

“The 54-year-old suspect was arrested for murder the same day,” she said.

She said the suspect appeared in the Brits Magistrates Court on 28 November and was granted bail of R1 000. “We deny the allegations made by the mother,” said Funani.

“The investigating officer was the one who searched for the family and let them know what had happened.”

Funani told Daily Sun that if the family claimed that they were ill-treated by the police, they must report that officer to the station commander or the district commissioner of Bojanala Sub-District 1.

Additionally, at least one police officer was swept away and died in Soweto during a period of heavy flooding on December 9. The Klip River also overflowed, contributing to flooding conditions. At least 50 people were displaced. An unspecified number of houses were inundated. Floodwaters are beginning to recede, and cleanup operations have begun.

Lenasia (Lenz) is a suburb south of Soweto in the Gauteng province, South Africa, originally created to house Indians; and is part of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. This update was aggregated by NC4, an independent global crisis reporting agency.

“Zimbabweans Are Serial Plan B People!” Where Is Plan B If Millions Are In The Dark And Starving.

By Patrick Guramatunhu- “Zimbabwe did not become a failed state overnight. The collapse of the country happened over a period of decades, starting as early as the 1980s,” wrote Malaika Mahlatsi in an article circulating in my social media group.

“Scholars like Llyod Sachikonye go further to argue that the collapse began during the liberation war (the Second Chimurenga) with the institutionalisation of violence within national liberation movements. In his book, WHEN THE STATE TURNS ON ITS CITIZENS, he argues that the structural violence that characterises Zimbabwe today, and which is responsible for the catastrophic challenges that the country is confronted with, was institutionalised as far back as the 1970s. He argues that this violence, and the impunity with which it was meted out, facilitated the Zimbabwe of a ZANU PF that reigns with a margin of terror.”

There is evidence to support Sachikonye’s assessment.

During the fight to end British rule in India, Mahatma Gandhi and his fellow Indian nationalists were constantly bombarded by demands to escalate the struggle from the none-violence to an all-out armed struggle. “What kind of leaders would the armed struggle throw up?” Gandhi argued. “Would these be the men and women we would like to rule independent India?”

I think we, in Zimbabwe have given the answers to the two rhetorical questions Gandhi asked. In Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies, our war of independence, did throw up leaders who were tough enough to end white colonial rule in double quick time but at a great cost. The Zanu PF nationalists removed the white oppressors but only to install themselves as the new oppressors.

Yesteryear’s liberators have become today’s oppressors; a recurring theme in many independent African nations and human history.

Still, not all armed struggles have thrown up tyrants. South Africa, our next door neighbour waged an armed struggle to end apartheid and their struggle throw up visionary leaders like Nelson Mandela.

We in Zimbabwe certainly started our independence on the wrong foot in having corrupt, incompetent and murderous Zanu PF thugs, who did not have care about freedom, justice and human dignity of others and certainly had none of the visionary leadership qualities. 42 years after independence is reasonable time for us to have ended the Zanu PF dictatorship, especially given the depths of depravity and despair the regime has dragged us into.

Yes Zimbabwe’s war of independence did throw up corrupt and power hungry thugs; the worst that Gandhi and his fellow Indian nationalists could have imagined possible! So instead of the nation having to grapple with the post-independence challenges of making self-rule a success, Zimbabweans had to wrestle power, freedom and human dignity from the Zanu PF thugs first. Why has that process taken 42 years and counting?

“One day, when the collapse of South Africa becomes absolute, and we can no longer conceal that we are in fact a sophisticated failed state, we are going to reflect, like Sachikonye did, not on where we fell but on where we stumbled. And one of the emerging themes of our collective reflection is going to be that the country began its descent when we stopped fighting for our most basic human rights when the ANC led government was trampling on them,” was Mahlatsi’s explanation.

“It starts with things like actually accepting loadshedding as a fact of our lives and organising our existence around it. We have become very dangerously accepting of misgovernance in our country. We have become people who have a plan B for everything – exactly like Zimbabweans.

“They have no hospital equipment, they will simply buy drips at a pharmacy and take them to hospital with them. Zimbabweans are serial plan B people.”

If Zimbabweans’ so-called plan B was a viable solution, worthy of the name plan B, then Zimbabwe would not be a failed state characterised by millions living in abject poverty. How many Zimbabweans can afford the drip and the health care services has all but collapse, there are qualified staff to fit the drip?

Zimbabweans have resigned themselves to sinking deeper and deeper into poverty hopelessness and despair. As we speak, millions of Zimbabweans sitting twiddling their thumbs in the dark, Zimbabwe’s power cuts are 20 hours a day officially but for povo it is 20 days or more. They can’t sleep because they are hungry. Hunger and disease are no strangers in their homes, the dogs have stopped barking at them and the two imposers walk straight in without bothering about the usual formalities of knocking.

“Zimbabweans are serial plan B people!” Yeah right! Laying in the dark twiddling one thumbs and cannot even hear themselves think because of the rambling stomach is not exactly the image of one with a plan B, C or Z. But rather that on one at their wit’s end!

That’s right, Zimbabwe is a failed state because we have become a nation of people with no plan A, B, etc. A nation of people who cannot think. There, I have said it! Some one has to tell this nation some home truths we don’t want to hear!

No one can stop someone else thinking. And the contrary is equally true, no one can force someone else to think.

It is infinitely easier, to force the proverbial horse to drink than to force someone else to drink from the spring of knowledge, the prerequisite for rational thinking as contrast to noise from those devoid of common sense much less wisdom. You can lead some people to the Pierian spring, but you cannot make them to drink!!

Thinking is a mental process just as walking or talking is a physical process. The more the brain is exercised the better it will be at computing information and coming up with rational thoughts, plan A and B. The failure exercise brain will turn brain tissue into fat.

Zimbabwe is a failed state because we, Zimbabweans have again and again failed to grapple with the many challenges of life particularly the challenge of self-government brought about by independence. It is now 42 years after our independence and we are still failing to deliver something as basic as holding free, fair and credible elections because we have no clue what constitute free elections, in this day and space age!

At the heart of Zimbabwe’s failed state is our failure to hold free, fair and credible elections. The nation is stuck with this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship because the regime has rigged elections to stay in power denying the people a meaningful say in the governance of the country.

There is no excuse why Zimbabweans have failed to implement the democratic reforms necessary to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections for the last 42 years and counting. The nation had the golden opportunity to implement the reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU and the chances were wasted.

MDC, who were tasked to implement the reforms failed to implement even one reform. Worse still, many Zimbabweans had no clue what the GNU was about, even now with the benefit of hindsight, and hence their failure to realise that MDC leaders sold out by failing to implement the reforms.

Indeed, MDC leaders now calling themselves CCC, continue to sell out by participating in flawed and illegal elections just to give Zanu PF legitimacy. And the people, in the blind ignorance continue to follow CCC like sheep to the slaughter!

Yes, the worsen economic crisis in Zimbabwe, the many nights spent in the dark listening to their rambling stomach, has left many Zimbabweans desperate for change. Many of them are participating in these elections oblivious of the reality doing so only gives Zanu PF legitimacy and thus perpetuate the dictatorship. Desperate people do desperate things. And it is most unkind, to say the least, to call this insanity plan B!

Mankind is a creature of rational think, those who have embraced, nurtured and cherished this talent have prospered and ripped a thousand-fold. Whilst those who would not think at all have blundered from pillar to post, repeating the same mistakes and paying dearly for it.

Zimbabwe is a failed state, a pariah state, ruled by corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous Zanu PF thugs; aided and abetted by the coterie of equally corrupt, incompetent and utterly use opposition sell-outs because, we the people, have allowed them rule. We have failed to remove these thugs from power because we have discarded our thinking caps.

Robbers Pounce On Mine, Walk Away With Guns

By A Correspondent- Five unknown robbers allegedly pounced on a Chinese mine in Bindura and disarmed security guards before robbing them of the company’s riffles.

According to Mashonaland Central acting police spokesperson Sergeant Major Samuel Chikasha the suspects are still at large.

“I can confirm a robbery case at Ming Chang , Woodbrooke Mine in Bindura wherr five armed robbers pounced on the mine and robbed security guards of their riffles before vanishing in the dark,” Chikasha said.

He further apppealed for information which can lead to the arrest of the suspects.

It is alleged on December 8 the suspects two of them armed with riffles and three of them armed with wooden logs pounced on Jephias Makiwa (44) who was on guard and took his short gun.

Three of the suspects proceeded to the guard room where they found the other guard Tafirenyuka Chikonye (31) asleep.

They also disarmed him and took his cellphone which they threw away on their way out of the mine.

The Blues Seek To Retain World Cup Title

Theo Hernandez fired France into an early lead before substitute Randal Kolo Muani sealed a 2-0 victory against an excellent Morocco at Al Bayt Stadium, to send Les Blues into the World Cup final.

France remained on course to become the first team since Brazil in 1962 to retain the world title and will now meet Lionel Messi and Argentina in the showpiece.

Morocco have been the surprise package of Qatar 2022 and Walid Regragui’s side responded superbly after Hernandez’s fifth-minute opener, pinning back the world champions for significant periods in a display of considerable courage and skill.

Government Hospital Runs Out Of Food

INMATES at Ingutsheni Mental Hospital, a few kilometres outside Bulawayo, are reportedly facing a food crisis as government has failed to honour its obligation to fund the mental health institution.

US Snubs Mnangagwa

By-The US government has snubbed President Emmerson Mnangagwa and invited his Foreign minister, Fredrick Shava, to attend the US-Africa summit from 13 to 15 December.

In a series of propaganda posts on Twitter on Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, Tuesday, George Charamba portrays Mnangagwa had snubbed the United States.

Charamba said the Ministerial level representation results from specific terms spelled out in Washington’s invitation to Harare. He said:

The facts are as follows: The US government for the first time broke with tradition to invite the Zimbabwean government to participate at the summit. It went further to indicate the level of representation it preferred, namely that of our Foreign Minister, Dr Frederick Shava.

It should be appreciated this is a US government event, in which case the US enjoys the right and prerogative of a host, which right they exercised as best they saw how.

With that stricture in mind, the Zimbabwean government decided to send the Foreign Minister, who is already in Washington for the US-Africa Summit.

President ED Mnangagwa did not snub any invite; none came asking for his direct participation.

Engagement on the illegal sanctions will take place at the summit. In fact, a few meetings with US government officials were lined up for the Foreign Minister, and these (are) to take place ahead of the summit.

This is why the Honourable Minister had to leave for Washington from Angola.

This year, for the first time, the United States of America asked Harare to be represented at the US-Africa Summit since its inception in 2014. | NewZiana

We Are Not Preschoolers, Zimbabweans Tell Mutsvangwa

Tinashe Sambiri| Zimbabweans have slammed Zanu PF spokesperson Chris Mutsvangwa for attempting to hide behind the finger after the disgraced politician accused the late former President Robert Mugabe of causing the current power crisis in Zimbabwe.

More About Malaria

Key facts

Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes.

It is preventable and curable.

In 2021, there were an estimated 247 million cases of malaria worldwide.
The estimated number of malaria deaths stood at 619 000 in 2021.
The WHO African Region carries a disproportionately high share of the global malaria burden. In 2021, the region was home to 95% of malaria cases and 96% of malaria deaths. Children under 5 accounted for about 80% of all malaria deaths in the Region.
Overview

Malaria is an acute febrile illness caused by Plasmodium parasites, which are spread to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. There are 5 parasite species that cause malaria in humans, and 2 of these species – P. falciparum and P. vivax – pose the greatest threat. P. falciparum is the deadliest malaria parasite and the most prevalent on the African continent. P. vivax is the dominant malaria parasite in most countries outside of sub-Saharan Africa.

The first symptoms – fever, headache and chills – usually appear 10–15 days after the infective mosquito bite and may be mild and difficult to recognize as malaria. Left untreated, P. falciparum malaria can progress to severe illness and death within a period of 24 hours.

In 2021, nearly half of the world’s population was at risk of malaria. Some population groups are at considerably higher risk of contracting malaria and developing severe disease: infants, children under 5 years of age, pregnant women and patients with HIV/AIDS, as well as people with low immunity moving to areas with intense malaria transmission such as migrant workers, mobile populations and travellers.

Disease burden
According to the latest World malaria report, there were 247 million cases of malaria in 2021 compared to 245 million cases in 2020. The estimated number of malaria deaths stood at 619 000 in 2021 compared to 625 000 in 2020.

Over the 2 peak years of the pandemic (2020–2021), COVID-related disruptions led to about 13 million more malaria cases and 63 000 more malaria deaths.

The WHO African Region continues to carry a disproportionately high share of the global malaria burden. In 2021 the Region was home to about 95% of all malaria cases and 96% of deaths. Children under 5 years of age accounted for about 80% of all malaria deaths in the Region.

Four African countries accounted for just over half of all malaria deaths worldwide: Nigeria (31.3%), the Democratic Republic of the Congo (12.6%), United Republic of Tanzania (4.1%) and Niger (3.9%).

Prevention
Over the last 2 decades, expanded access to WHO-recommended malaria prevention tools and strategies – including effective vector control and the use of preventive antimalarial drugs – has had a major impact in reducing the global burden of this disease.

Vector control
Vector control is a vital component of malaria control and elimination strategies as it is highly effective in preventing infection and reducing disease transmission. The 2 core interventions are insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) and indoor residual spraying (IRS).

Progress in global malaria control is threatened by emerging resistance to insecticides among Anopheles mosquitoes. As described in the latest World malaria report, other threats to ITNs include insufficient access, loss of nets due to the stresses of day-to-day life outpacing replacement, and changing behaviour of mosquitoes, which appear to be biting early before people go to bed and resting outdoors, thereby evading exposure to insecticides.

Preventive chemotherapies
Preventive chemotherapy is the use of medicines, either alone or in combination, to prevent malaria infections and their consequences. It requires giving a full treatment course of an antimalarial medicine to vulnerable populations (generally infants, children under 5 years of age and pregnant women) at designated time points during the period of greatest malarial risk, regardless of whether the recipients are infected with malaria.

Preventive chemotherapy includes perennial malaria chemoprevention (PMC), seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC), intermittent preventive treatment of malaria in pregnancy (IPTp) and school-aged children (IPTsc), post-discharge malaria chemoprevention (PDMC) and mass drug administration (MDA).

These safe and cost-effective strategies are intended to complement ongoing malaria control activities, including vector control measures, prompt diagnosis of suspected malaria, and treatment of confirmed cases with antimalarial medicines.

Vaccine
Since October 2021, WHO also recommends broad use of the RTS,S/AS01 malaria vaccine among children living in regions with moderate to high P. falciparum malaria transmission.

The vaccine has been shown to significantly reduce malaria, and deadly severe malaria, among young children.

Zanu Heavyweights Grab Villagers’ Land

Tinashe Sambiri| Zanu PF bigwigs in Masvingo are angling themselves to snatch land belonging to local villagers, it has emerged.

The notorious Zanu PF land barons are targeting land belonging to Masvingo Rural District Council.

The two have already invaded land belonging Masvingo RDC under Chief Charumbira.

See article below courtesy of Midweek Watch:

Powerful Masvingo Zanu-PF members, Goddard Dunira Hungwe and Chivi Central MP, Ephraim Gwanongodza are in the eye of a storm after they allegedly invaded land in Masvingo Rural District Council under Chief Charumbira for commercial purposes.

Village heads and residents who spoke to The Midweek Watch had no kind words for the powerful politicians, Dunira and Gwanongodza whom they accused of invading their grazing lands and dividing it into commercial and residential stands for their own personal benefit.

The two are accused of invading Village 20 B and Village 18 A, about 30km along Masvingo Beitbridge Higway under Chief Charumbira, depriving 120 villagers of grazing land for their more than 2400 cattle and drinking water.

“The area near Bhati along Beitbridge Road has been taken over by Gwanongodza and last week trucks brought bricks for construction of houses, shops and a lodge. We have since lodged a complaint with Chief Charumbira for action to be taken as we feel that the two have belittled us by starting such projects in our area without even consulting us as the custodians of the land,” said an irate Village 18B head, Bridgton Madziyire on the phone.

More than 60 households in Village 18A have been affected by the land invasions according to Madziyire who started staying in the area in 1980.

Madziyire said land has been cleared in preparation for the construction of the lodges and a meeting which was allegedly attended by over 50 people was held recenly and 35 cars were seen parked at the area as they were being shown their pieces of land for development.

The meeting was allegedly attended by acting Chief Bere, Phinias Tafirei as it is said Gwanongodza and Dunira were given the land by him since he is believed the custodian of the area after the resuscitation of Bere chiftainship.

Village 20B head, Author Hapazari who started staying in the area in 1999 said they have witnessed strange movements as bricks are being ferried to the area and clearing of land is going on unabated and it is alleged that Dunira is behind the moves.

“When I visited the area on Saturday last week there was a lot of activity going on as preparations were underway for the construction of a lodge according to people privy to the goings on,” said Hapazari.

Hapazari said there is need for the two to respect them since they are set to lose land for grazing and open wells for drinking water for their cattle if the places are turned into residential and commercial areas.
Madziyire said in some of the areas that they want to build commercial stands there are witches buried there and he asked the wisdom of building a home where there are such sacred graves.

“It is strange that they want to build lodges where there are outlaws of society buried there, we have so many mountains where they can build such facilities and they are readiliy available than to go and descarte our ancestors’ graves.

“What we want is peace in thsi area and respect, not just to invade our land just like that, that is a cause for grave concern, the consequences may be too ghastly to contemplate if the situation is not resolved in an amicable manner,” siad Madziyire.

When contacted for a comment Masvingo Rural District Council chief executive officer, Martin Mubviro said he has dispatched a probe team on the ground to find out what is happening with a view to either regularise the settlements so that they pay rates to the Council according to the law or to evict the invaders.

Dunira was not polite on the phone as he accused this reporter of being used by certain political forces for their own ends and warned that the Press should stay away from such fights.

Gwanongodza however, admitted that they were allocated some land in that area by Chief Bere, but added that they were approached by some people from Chief Charumbira saying they are tresspassing their area.

“There is an on going feud on boundaries issue between the two chieftainships and I have no idea who is the rightful owner. I have some land allocated to me by Chief Bere and that is because we believed he is the rightful custodian of the area, but suddenly we were approached by Chief Charumbira’s people who ordered us to stop any work because the land is under Chief Charumbira.

We have not done anything since then and we are waiting for the finalisation of the dispute between the two chiefs,” said Gwanongodza.
“The said place is within our territory. Village heads have the right to allocate themselves some land and Dunira is one such village head and has every right to occupy it.

“The area is also being invaded by anyone including Zanu-Pf youths who have incorporated Avonmore/Hofmeyer Farm in Manyama and claims that they have full support of some powerful politicians,” said one villager who declined to be named for fear of reprisals. Credit: Midweek Watch

“Let’s Try Mukomana In 2023”

Tinashe Sambiri|Citizens analyst David Laque says Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa will not take the nation anywhere.

Laque has urged the nation to give CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa a chance to transform the waning economy in 2023.

Below is Laque’s argument:

Adv Chamisa wants to take us where we want to go…

ED wants to take us where we are coming from.

By whatever means, a win for ED & ZanuPF in 2023 will mean that the next 5 years will look exactly like the past five years.

So whats your choice come 2023, #change or #continuity?

2023 is about choosing between change & continuity.

2023 is about choosing between a kakistocracy & a citizens’ transformational govt.

2023 we put a stop to the 43 years of excuses, failure, corruption & chaos.

2023 we usher in a New Great Zimbabwe.

CCC Top official Backs Chamisa on Zanu PF Bribes

By-A senior Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) official and Member of Parliament has distanced himself from the government’s controversial US$40 000 loans offered to lawmakers.

Addressing residents at a recently held community engagement meeting at Moffat Hall in Sakubva, Innocent Gonese, who represents Mutare Central in the National Assembly, said he doesn’t know anything about the loans. Said Gonese:

The issue of government loans has been topical of late. The truth of the matter is that I haven’t seen any money and I don’t know about anything concerning the US$40 000 housing loan.

As you all know, I am a steadfast CCC member and as a party, we will sit down and discuss on the issue because I don’t want to be caught offside.

After coming up with a conclusion, we will come up with a statement that will be delivered to the public.

Recent media reports indicate that MPs were offered US$40 000 housing loans with Ministers being offered US$500 000 and their deputies getting US$350 000.

CCC leader Nelson Chamisa said that the loans were a bribe and warned his MPs not to “drink from the poisoned chalice” as they will face the wrath of voters.

However, CCC Chief Whip in Parliament Prosper Mutseyami said the loan was not a donation but “a genuine part of the MPs’ welfare.” | TellZim News

Mwonzora Demands More Money From Mnangagwa

By-The Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC is demanding more money from political parties funding from the treasury, saying that the ZWL$2.5 billion is not enough.

MDC-T spokesperson Witness Dube said the funds were inadequate and would not enable political parties to prepare for the upcoming general elections.

Said Dube:
The money allocated for political parties is not enough. Through experience as the MDC, we have had to look for other sources of funding, including burdening our public representatives and councillors to actually put their financial shoulders to carry the party.
Strong political parties will create vibrant democracy, which will create very strong institutions which will then create the affirmation of plurality as a nation.
You do not want the ruling party to be the only strong party because they have access to state funds.
The Front for Economic Emancipation in Zimbabwe (FEEZ), which is led by Godfrey Tsenengamu, said that the State should not fund political parties. The party’s spokesperson, Everton Mutsauri, said:
FEEZ registers that the fund should be scrapped altogether. All parties should also be treated equally as they are critical in the consolidation of a democratic society.
In this light, we call for the enactment of a new model which totally scraps or repeals the funding of all parties.
FEEZ maintains that the allocation of funds is in a way, suffocating the budget of the nation.
And there is no justification for the existence of such funding, and worse to notice the negative contribution it gives to the political and economic setup of our nation.
The Political Parties Finance Act provides for State funding of political parties with at least 5% of the total votes cast.

Police Block Gutu Tree Planting Event

By- Authorities in Masvingo have blocked a tree planting day activity organised by Masvingo resident Lloyd Mupfudze.

The police invoked the Maintenance of Peace & Order Act and barred the Gutu ward four (4), event scheduled for 15 December 2022.

In a letter addressed to Mupfudze, Chief Superintendent Taurai Joackim Mambure, who is the Regulating Authority for Masvingo East Police District, said the tree-planting-day event cannot go ahead because another political party had already notified them of its intention to hold a political meeting in the same ward. Part of the letter reads:
I Chief Superintendent Taurai Joackim Mambure of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, being the regulating authority for Masvingo East Police District covering an area of jurisdiction extending from Shashe River to the North West, Denhere Communal lands to the North, Dewure River to the East and Manjirenji Dam to the South.
ACKNOWLEDGE receipt of your notification to hold a tree planting day dated 10/12/22 to be done in Gutu North Constituency, Ward 4, at Takaona Homestead on 15 December 2022 from 1000 hours to 1600 hours which you submitted in terms of Section 7 of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act Chapter 11.23.
You are being advised that another political party had already made a notification to hold a political meeting on the same date and ward [Ward 4).
NOW, THEREFORE, I as the Regulating Officer do hereby issue this prohibition notice in terms of section 8(9) of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act [Chapter 11.23], prohibiting the holding of tree planting day scheduled for 15/12/22 in Gutu North Constituency Ward 4, from 1000 hours to 1600 hours.
For the avoidance of doubt, it is declared in terms of section 8 (11) of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act [Chapter 11: 23] that any person who knowingly opposes or fails to comply with this prohibition notice shall be guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding level 14 or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year or to both such fine and such imprisonment.
The Officer-in-Charge ZRP Gutu is accordingly advised for the necessary monitoring.

Zuma Throws Ramaphosa Under The Bus

By- Senior African National Congress member and South Africa’s Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, has defended her decision to vote in favour of impeachment proceedings against President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Dlamini Zuma was one of four ANC MPs who refused to toe the party line by supporting the call for the adoption of the Section 89 panel report which found that Ramaphosa may have violated his oath of office in connection with the theft of cash at his Phala Phala farm.

She said that she used her discretion as a member of Parliament when she voted.

Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, who was also in the running to become the African National Congress (ANC)’s next president, was the first MP to vote against the party’s position during the open vote and stunned the National Assembly on Tuesday.

She joined the likes of Supra Mahumapelo, Mosebenzi Zwane, and Mervyn Dirks who all voted in support of impeachment proceedings against Ramaphosa. Said Dlamini Zuma:

I’m a public representative so I voted according to my understanding of the report. I read it thoroughly and I supported it.

Only 148 members of parliament voted in favour and 214 voted against, while two MPs abstained from the vote. This means that the impeachment process is now dead in the water | EWN

Makorokoza Die In Fierce Fighting

By-Two illegal gold miners, infamously called Mashurugwi, reportedly fought using dangerous weapons until they killed each other in Zvishavane last week on Monday.

Reports indicate that the fight between Tapfumaneyi Muza (28) of Hwinya Village, Chief Nhema and Gilbert Dendere (29) was so fierce that onlookers at Dombwe Business Centre fled into the bushes to hide.

The onlookers only returned to the scene after the noise died down and were shocked to see the two protagonists lying on the ground side by side, dead.

Muza had been released from prison on bail for attempted murder three days before the fatal fight.

He was represented in his bail application by Abitar Mugari of Pamacheche, Gundu and Dube Legal Practitioners.

According to a police memo seen by The Mirror, on 28 November 2022, at 9 PM at Dombwe Business Centre, Dendere who had a grudge against Muza approached the latter and they started fighting.

Muza allegedly stabbed Dendere with a Columbia knife several times in the chest and in retaliation, Dendere stabbed Muza in the neck and struck him with an axe on the left ear resulting in the deaths of the two.

Police were called to the scene and they collected the bodies.

Muza was previously arrested for stoning a police officer on duty at Dombwe and stabbing him with a knife three times.

Muza then took the cop’s gun which he surrendered to the nearest headman. | The Mirror
