Robbers Snatch 11Kgs Of Gold From How-Mine
By-Armed robbers Tuesday intercepted three security vehicles transporting Gold from How Mine about 10 kilometres from the mine, and got away with 11 kgs of Gold.
How Mine is located in Matebeleland-South province, about 30 kilometres southeast of Bulawayo in southern Zimbabwe.
Sources said there was a gunfight involving security officers from a cash-in-transit truck and the suspects whose vehicles were left riddled with bullet holes.
Eyewitnesses told the Sunday News that the armed robbers were using three vehicles, a Toyota GD 6, a Nissan March and Nissan Hard boy single cab.
It is alleged, How Mine’s internal security manager (name withheld) was following the three cash-in-transit (CIT) vehicles using a Toyota Fortuner from a distance when the ambush took place.
The security manager then pursued the three armed robbers’ vehicles.
A shootout ensued and he managed to shoot the Nissan Hardbody which they then dumped while firing at the security manager.
The manager then pursued the other two vehicles (Toyota GD6 and Nissan March) until Ekusileni Hospital (Hillside) towards the Bulawayo city centre, where the armed robbers managed to escape.
How Mine’s security manager’s vehicle was left with numerous bullet holes.
A revolver gun was recovered from the Nissan Hardbody which was abandoned.
Officials at the mine sent out a distress call warning nearby communities to be on the lookout for the two getaway vehicles.
The Gold which was destined for Fidelity Printers is worth about US$581 555 on international markets as of Tuesday 04 October 2022.

Zanu PF Youths Threaten To Burn Down Mbare Court
By-Over 300 Zanu PF youths on Monday stormed Mbare magistrate court and threatened the legal officers demanding that arrested CCC activists be denied bail.
This happened during the appearance of two members of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) at the court of allegations of threatening to kill Zanu PF youths.
Tapiwa Chibaya and Phanex Zikimvu were arrested after they went to court in solidarity with Last Chinodya, a CCC member arrested last Friday for allegedly threatening to kill a Zanu PF member.
Bail ruling in Chinodya’s case of threatening violence will be heard today.
Through their lawyer, advocate Wilbert Mandinde of the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum, Chibaya and Zikimvu deferred bail application citing failure to be served with court papers.
Chinodya was arrested last Friday at his workplace after Tonderai Rusere, a Zanu PF youth made a police report alleging that he had threatened to kill him if he continued to campaign for the ruling party in Mbare.
Chinodya however, claims that the allegations are false and designed to criminalise him and other CCC leadership ahead of the 2023 polls.
While making his submissions, the trio’strio’s lawyer Mandinde said his clients chose to apply for bail through the High Court.
“”My clients have elected that they will not apply for bail now because they have not been served with court papers,” ” Mandinde said.
Chibaya and Zikimvu were remanded to October 17 by Mbare magistrate Nyasha Vhitironi.
But during court proceedings , Zanu PF supporters numbering over 300 stormed court premises, toyi-toying, and threaten to set ablaze the trio’strio’s lawyers if they were granted bail.
Some of the Zanu PF members also threatened Mandinde for representing the trio. The situation was so tense that riot police had to be called in.

Benitez To Return To EPL?
Former Liverpool and Everton coach Rafael Benitez could return to the English Premier League after Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis reportedly identified him as a potential candidate to replace embattled Steve Cooper.
Cooper’s position as Forest coach has been in doubt for a number of weeks amid behind-the-scenes tensions.
Forest, who signed twenty-three new players in the summer transfer window, find themselves on the bottom of the table with only four points from eight games.
According to the Mail, the club owner has started the process of identifying candidates to replace Cooper.
And Benitez is leading the options along with ex-Burnley boss Sean Dyche.
Both coaches are not attached to any club at the moment.
Benitez’s recent job was with Everton, who sacked him in January, while Dyche left Burnley in April.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe
About World Mental Health Day
Whilst the pandemic has, and continues to, take its toll on our mental health, the ability to reconnect through World Mental Health Day 2022 will provide us with an opportunity to re-kindle our efforts to protect and improve mental health.
Many aspects of mental health have been challenged; and already before the pandemic in 2019 an estimated one in eight people globally were living with a mental disorder. At the same time, the services, skills and funding available for mental health remain in short supply, and fall far below what is needed, especially in low and middle income countries.
The COVID-19 pandemic has created a global crisis for mental health, fueling short- and long-term stresses and undermining the mental health of millions. Estimates put the rise in both anxiety and depressive disorders at more than 25% during the first year of the pandemic. At the same time, mental health services have been severely disrupted and the treatment gap for mental health conditions has widened.
Growing social and economic inequalities, protracted conflicts, violence and public health emergencies affect whole populations, threatening progress towards improved well-being; a staggering 84 million people worldwide were forcibly displaced during 2021. We must deepen the value and commitment we give to mental health as individuals, communities and governments and match that value with more commitment, engagement and investment by all stakeholders, across all sectors. We must strengthen mental health care so that the full spectrum of mental health needs is met through a community-based network of accessible, affordable and quality services and supports.
Stigma and discrimination continue to be a barrier to social inclusion and access to the right care; importantly, we can all play our part in increasing awareness about which preventive mental health interventions work and World Mental Health Day is an opportunity to do that collectively. We envision a world in which mental health is valued, promoted and protected; where everyone has an equal opportunity to enjoy mental health and to exercise their human rights; and where everyone can access the mental health care they need.
WHO will work with partners to launch a campaign around the theme of Making Mental Health & Well-Being for All a Global Priority. This will be an opportunity for people with mental health conditions, advocates, governments, employers, employees and other stakeholders to come together to recognize progress in this field and to be vocal about what we need to do to ensure Mental Health & Well-Being becomes a Global Priority for all.

In September 1999, Advocate Chamisa and a team of pro democracy students confronted the regime and its masquerades at a local tertiary institution.
“You’re implants of Zanupf who are masquerading as genuine, nonpartisan commissioners” Chamisa said.
Being in the frontline of a struggle without dithering or falling for the trappings and trinkets of the regime is a very important virtue of leadership.
It is never an easy road but we must focus on the goal and central objective- that is to bring genuine Change to the citizens of Zimbabwe.

Errant Government Entities And Local Authorities Were Enjoying Impunity
Government has been accused of failing to force State entities to regularly submit financial statements to the Auditor-General (AG), Mildred Chiri for audit.
A report by the Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (Zimcodd) issued this week revealed that ministries and local authorities have consistently failed to implement the AG’s recommendations in her audit reports, which has resulted in corrupt activities.
The Zimcodd report stated that the errant government entities and local authorities were enjoying impunity.
“The findings (in AG reports) do not inspire shock from readers as they are consistent with the usual reporting by the office of the Auditor-General. The challenge continues to be enforcing compliance of State entities to submit themselves for audit,” Zimcodd report read.
Former Finance minister Tendai Biti, who is also former chairperson of the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee said the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) was the most corrupt among State entities.
“The OPC is an errant ministry, an errant vote, and so you can’t expect a mosquito to cure malaria, it doesn’t happen. There is no political will. Remember they are the perpetrators so they cannot have the political will to extinguish corruption. We need to impose a penalty on non-compliance,” Biti said.
Efforts to get a comment from presidential spokesperson George Charamba were fruitless yesterday as his phone was not being answered.
Biti said some countries had laws that punish non-compliance with government audit reports and if a government entity is non-compliant, no disbursements should be made to it.
“The problem is if you read all of those AG reports, the culprit is actually the Ministry of Finance. The Ministry of Finance is a regulatory authority, a gatekeeper, but we have a situation where the gatekeeper is the gatecrasher, and so it is a dog’s breakfast,” Biti added.
Auditor-General Mildred Chiri said her office did not have the mandate to force State entities to submit their reports for audit.
“We do not have that mandate; we wait for them to submit. What we can do is to recommend, and the authorities above them should enforce and give them guidance or penalties,” Chiri said.
Audit expert Rodney Ndamba said Chiri had no authority to implement changes.
“She will assess what is reported versus records and simply make recommendations. Nowadays there are long form audit reports which give finer details,” Ndamba said.

Zanu PF Youths Threaten Court Against Granting Bail To CCC Members
Ruling Zanu-PF party youths yesterday ran amok at the Mbare Magistrates Court threatening to set ablaze lawyers’ vehicles if three members of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) who were arrested on yet to be established charges were granted bail.
This was after two CCC members Tapiwa Chibaya and Phanex Zikimvu were arrested on Saturday after they went to court in solidarity with Last Chinodya, a CCC member arrested last Friday for allegedly threatening to kill a Zanu-PF member.
Chinodya was arrested last Friday at his workplace after Tonderai Rusere, a Zanu-PF youth made a police report alleging that he had threatened to kill him if he continued to campaign for the ruling party in Mbare.
Chinodya however, claims that the allegations are false and designed to criminalise him and other CCC leadership ahead of the 2023 polls.
While making his submissions, the trio’s lawyer Mandinde said his clients chose to apply for bail through the High Court.
“My clients have elected that they will not apply for bail now because they have not been served with court papers,”Mandinde said.
Chibaya and Zikimvu were remanded to October 17 by Mbare magistrate Nyasha Vhitironi.
But during court proceedings yesterday, Zanu-PF supporters numbering over 300 stormed court premises, toyi-toying, and threaten to set ablaze the trio’s lawyers if they were granted bail.
Some of the Zanu-PF members also threatened Mandinde for representing the trio. The situation was so tense that riot police had to be called in.

Makandiwa Torches Social Media Storm Over Corruption Remarks
United Family International Church (UFIC) leader Emmanuel Makandiwa has torched a storm after one of his sermons went viral on social media, in which he appeared to “sanitise” corruption.
In the clip, the UFIC leader said: “Some of you don’t understand. Some of you hear what has not been said. It’s like you have me saying there is no corruption happening. That’s what you would have heard. Why do you misinterpret. Corruption has different levels.
“There is a certain level where there will be US$10 billion for road construction, of which US$5 billion is swindled and US$5 billion is used for the construction. That corruption is different from other corruption because all of the US$10 billion could be squandered.”
Zimbabweans quickly reacted to the sermon saying Makandiwa was seemingly siding with corrupt government officials. Others described him as a fake prophet.
Exiled former Cabinet minister Jonathan Moyo tweeted: “Not here. Papa don’t be a rolling stone. The 50/50 quota is for gender equality, not for corruption parity.”
Another Twitter user, Joseph Samanyara said: “On this one, he totally lost it! Corruption should never be justified because that money is being paid by taxpayers and must fully benefit the taxpayers.”
“Corruption is corruption, it must not be classified. We can’t sanitise the looting of US$5 billion because the other US$5 billion was reportedly used for the intended purpose,” Maguwu said.
Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development programmes manager John Maketo said: “We stand against all forms of corruption.”
Centre for Natural Resource Governance director Farai Maguwu said if government did not sincerely deal with corruption affecting Zimbabwe, the country would remain poor.
Meanwhile, in his sermon, Makandiwa also said: “Zimbabwe is rising bit by bit, whether Satan likes it or not. We are walking in prophetic steps. From morning until midnight, we are seeing those in power doing what was revealed to us, but God will support until you get embarrassed. If you were a prophet like me, you would do the same.”
Maguwu, however, said it has now become very difficult to distinguish between Makandiwa the preacher and Makandiwa the politician.
“These are inflammatory political statements which have nothing to do with the gospel of Jesus Christ. People must be encouraged to create industries and not take what does not belong to them. That is theft and is against the teaching of scriptures,” Maguwu added.

US$ Allowance For Education Sector Chefs Divide Civil Servants
By A Correspondent-Teachers are reportedly divided over reports that the government is giving senior civil servants in the education sector are being given travel and subsistence allowances pegged in United States dollars (US$).
The senior officials are getting per diems of up to US$125 per day, which is paid in local currency for attending meetings, chairing disciplinary meetings and other events in the education ministry, NewsDay reported.
Teachers who spoke to NewsDay accused the government of offering perks to the senior education officers to encourage them to intimidate and frustrate efforts to push the government to restore pre-October 2018 salaries that were around US$540.
Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Obert Masaraure claimed:
A layer of elite civil servants is being created to strengthen ‘supervision’ of the majority of civil servants. That layer is enjoying special perks and is being deployed to scuttle any collective job actions. Government has divided teachers through the introduction of a layer of teachers who are promised to enjoy economic privileges, professional exceptionalism and social protection. The group named Teachers for ED is being used as a vehicle to bastardise trade unionism.
Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe secretary-general Raymond Majongwe said:
Senior officials in the Education ministry get per diems on several occasions during the course of the month while teachers are in class, working.
Majongwe added that the senior teachers were getting USDs and have, as a result, been pocketing way more than what teachers are earning, which is somewhat demoralising teachers in class.
Education ministry spokesperson Taungana Ndoro said there was nothing amiss in giving allowances to senior members because it was the norm across all other government departments, as well as in the private sector.
ZimStat Releases Statistics That Could Force Youths To Vote Zanu PF Out Of Power In 2023
The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStat) has released results of last year’s national census which could get youths angry and vote the ruling Zanu PF out of power.
According to the ZimStat 2022 second quarter labour force survey about half of Zimbabwean youths are loafing, laying bare the job crisis facing the country.
Results of the ZimStat survey that was released yesterday show that the national proportion of youths aged between 15 and 34 years who were not in employment, education or training (NEET) was estimated at 50%, while the proportion of those aged between 15 and 24 in the same category stood at 49%.
The national unemployment rate for youth between 15 and 34 years was 29%, while the youth aged between 15 and 24 had a national unemployment rate of 37%, according to the survey.
Presenting the results, ZimStat acting manager (labour, market, and statistics department) Tidings Matangira said most of the youth who were in NEET were doing nothing.
The ZimStat report shows that an estimated 3,25 million people are employed compared to 3,27 million in the first quarter.
“Around 3,3 million of the working age population was currently employed. The national employment to population ratio stood at 35%,” the ZimStat report partly read.
“Harare had the highest proportion of the employed population at around 26% followed by Mashonaland West at 13%. Matabeleland North with 2% had the least proportion. 29% of the employed population was in the formal sector while 45% was in the informal sector. Of those in employment 21% and 5% were in the agricultural and household sectors, respectively. Eighty-eight percent of the employed population was informally employed. Among those employed in the non-agricultural sectors, 85% were informally employed.”
The ZimStat report comes as the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) says the southern African country has a mere 180 000 formal jobs, yet its population has doubled since independence in 1980.
“One in 15 people has a formal job compared to one in six in 1980,” ZNCC chief executive officer Christopher Mugaga said recently.
According the latest ZimStat report, the majority of the workers (26%) are employed under the wholesale trade, retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motor cycles industry followed by the agricultural, forestry and fishing sectors with 21%.
ZimStat also says 29% of persons in the potential labour force category stopped looking for jobs because they have been looking for employment for a very long time without success.
ZimStat director-general Taguma Mahonde said the decline in the number of employed people in the second quarter was a result of the changes in the farming season which resulted in the economy shifting from the agricultural sector.
“Unemployment rate using the strict definition was estimated at 20% compared to 19,3% in quarter one,” Mahonde said. “Expanded unemployment rate was estimated at 48% compared to 47,2% in quarter one. Share of formal (non-agriculture) sector employment was estimated at 29% compared to 28% in quarter one. Share of employment in the informal (non-agriculture) sector was estimated at 45% for both second and first quarters. Share of employment in the household sector was estimated at 6% compared to 4% in quarter one. Share of employment in the agricultural sector was estimated at 21% compared to 24% in the first quarter.”
International Labour Organisation (ILO) specialist on informal sector Annamarie Kiaga bemoaned the low number of women employed in the formal sector.
“It is worrisome that fewer women of the working age are actually employed or participating in the labour markets,” Kiaga said.
“The gender gap matters because ILO believes that freedom of work by choice and condition of dignity, safety and fairness is integral to human welfare. Guaranteeing women the right to have access to work is important.
“The gender gap in Zimbabwe is of concern because in 2016, the ILO conducted a study worldwide on the attitude or perception of both women and men, 81% of women indicated preference to access to paid work. So if that was in 2016 and six years on, still the employment ratio of women against men is still this low it becomes worrisome.”

High Court Rips Into Magistrate Taruvinga Over Mako Conviction
By A Correspondent| Two High Court Judges have berated Harare Magistrate Judith Taruvinga for committing an enormous blunder when she convicted and sentenced Makomborero Haruzivishe, a pro-democracy campaigner, to serve jail time in 2021 on baseless charges of inciting public violence and resisting arrest by some Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers.
Haruzivishe was convicted on Wednesday 31 March 2021 by Magistrate Taruvinga on charges of inciting public violence and resisting arrest by law enforcement agents, who on Tuesday 6 April 2021 sentenced him to serve 36 months in jail. However, 16 months of his sentence were suspended on condition that he does not commit the same offence and
gets convicted.
He had been arrested by ZRP officers on 5 February 2020 and charged with inciting public violence and resisting arrest by law enforcement agents. During trial, prosecutors alleged that Haruzivishe incited some vendors to commit public violence by whistling to them when some ZRP officers were on an operation to round up informal traders in Harare’s central business district. Haruzivishe, the prosecutors charged, also resisted arrest by some police officers who wanted to apprehend him.
On the first count of incitement as defined in section 187 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Magistrate Taruvinga sentenced Haruzivishe to serve 24 months in prison of which 10 months were suspended for a period of five years.
On the second count of resisting a peace officer as defined in section 176 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, the pro-democracy campaigner was sentenced to serve 12 months of which six months were suspended for a period of five years.
Haruzivishe, who was represented by Kossam Ncube and Obey Shava of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, then appealed against both conviction and sentence in 2021, where he argued that Magistrate Taruvinga had grossly erred and misdirected herself in convicting him and hence the guilty verdict handed down by the judicial officer should be set aside.
After presiding over hearing of Haruzivishe’s appeal, Justice Benjamin Chikowero and Justice Happias Zhou on 22 September 2022 quashed and set aside the pro-democracy campaigner’s conviction and sentence by Magistrate Taruvinga after finding him not guilty on both counts and consequently acquitted him.
Justice Chikowero and Zhou had no kind words for Magistrate Taruvinga whom they said had “fundamentally misdirected” herself in convicting imprisoning Haruzivishe.
The two judges concluded that Magistrate Taruvinga’s ruling was not “thorough” and that she had based her verdict on an “incorrect appreciation of evidence” adduced during Haruzivishe’s trial and also on patently “wrong facts”.
Dont Fear, Come Bury Your Brother, Govt Tells Mapfumo
Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana says exiled Chimurenga music legend Thomas ‘Mukanya’ Mapfumo is free to return home to bury his late brother, Lancelot who died recently in the USA.
This is after the US based protest music chanter said weekend he feared for his life if he returned home for the funeral.
Lancelot, a percussionist, was one of the founding members of Mapfumo’s Blacks Unlimited, a music outfit the veteran musician has fronted for many years.
Mapfumo, an ardent critic of the Emmerson Mnangagwa led Zanu-PF administration and the predecessor regime once headed by now late President Robert Mugabe, told the media weekend he was not going to make the long trip back home to bury his brother.
“Lancelot was my brother, workmate and friend. I and the band have lost someone we worked with throughout our lives. It won’t be possible to fill his gap,” Mapfumo said.
“Lancelot will be buried in Zimbabwe, his homeland. We are making arrangements to bring his body from here.
“Unfortunately, I won’t make the trip to Zimbabwe because of political reasons, as you know I am not a favourite of the government.
“I fear for my life and safety if I come to Zimbabwe.”
Responding to Mapfumo Monday, Mangwana said the musician had nothing to fear.
“We wish to express our sincere condolences to Mr Thomas Mapfumo over the sad loss of his younger brother, Lancelot (MHSRIP).
“We wish to advise Mr Mapfumo that he has nothing to fear in Zimbabwe. The security of his person is as assured as the rest of us,” Mangwana said.
Mapfumo, a strong critic of citizen oppression and corruption, has unsettled the country’s rulers through often candid criticism of state excesses and open calls for the overthrow of the Mnangagwa led administration through mass action.
He has openly landed his support for opposition CCC leader Nelson Chamisa and his party.
Mapfumo was last home in April 2018 where he staged some home coming gigs and also took time to lay wreaths on the tombs of his late mother and those of relatives who died during his long absence.
His mother died in 2008 with the outspoken musician failing to attend her funeral, burial or memorial service.
Mapfumo relocated to the United States of America at the turn of the millennium.
His 2018 gigs saw him break a 14-year hiatus after his last performances in front of a home crowd were back in 2004.

Agric Minister Accused Of Imposing Girlfriend To Parastatal Staff
By A Correspondent| Agriculture Minister Anxious Masuka is in the eye of a storm after allegedly influencing Cottco to appoint his longtime girlfriend Cynthia Tapera as the company’s marketing officer, sources at the parastatal have revealed.
Minister Masuka and Tapera’s romance is said to have flourished while they were working at the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society.
“They have known each for a while now and everyone knows that she is the Minister’s girlfriend. Masuka approached several parastatals under him to find a home for his mistress but the government owned institutions resisted. She eventually found home at Cottco where Masuka wields a lot of influence,” the sources said.
Cottco website confirms that indeed Tapera was employed at ZAS.
“Cynthia Tapera is an accomplished Brand Management expert who successfully repositioned and rebranded the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show, participated in the turnaround of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society to financial growth,” reads the glowing tribute to her on the site.
Masuka was the chief executive at the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society before his appointment at the agriculture minister.
The minister is accused of turning Cottco into his fiefdom.
Masuka allegedly owns a company called Tatoo Advertising jointly operated with Tapera which has won controversial tenders.
Tapera allegedly initiated the purchasing of 2 Brahman Bulls using Cottco funds for the minister.

CAF Withdraws Guinea Right To Host AFCON
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reopened the bids for the hosting of 2025 Afcon after stripping Guinea of the rights.
The rights withdrawal followed a meeting on Friday in Conakry between Guinea’s interim president, Col. Mamady Doumbouya, and CAF President Patrice Motsepe.
Motsepe cited the infrastructure and facilities in Guinea as not being ready to host a world-class Afcon competition.
The CAF boss, who was accompanied by Caf General Secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba said as quoted by CAF website: “I visited Guinea today [Friday] out of respect to the people of Guinea to discuss CAF’s willingness to advise and work together with the football stakeholders to construct and build football infrastructure and facilities in this country.
“This will enable Guinea to bid with other competing Nations for the African Nations Championships (CHAN) which will take place after the Chan to be hosted by Algeria in 2023, in the light of the decision by CAF not to proceed with the 2025 Afcon in Guinea.”
Following an Executive Committee meeting on Saturday, CAF has resolved to re-open the bid.
“The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) Executive Committee (“EXCO”) met on Saturday 1 October 2022 in Algiers, Algeria and announced the re-opening of bids for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2025,” a statement by the football body read.
It is not the first time a country has been stopped from hosting Afcon.
Cameroon were stripped of the right to host the 2019 tournament because they weren’t considered ready but they were awarded the 2021 tournament – which took place earlier this year because of delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe
City Thrash Red Devils
Former Manchester United skipper Roy Keane has branded the club’s 6-3 derby defeat by Manchester City as “hugely embarrassing”.
Hat-tricks from Erling Haaland and Phil Foden saw the reigning Premier League champions, who led 4-0 at the break, cruise to victory at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon and prompted a withering assessment from the Irishman.
Keane told Sky Sports: “Man City were magnificent. Watching Man City, it is a pleasure. Watching them live, they are one of the best teams I’ve ever seen.
“But Man United, [it’s] a huge setback for them. We were giving them a little bit of praise over the last few weeks, but this is a huge step back.
“Four-nil down at half-time – they were 4-0 down at Brentford – and the performance in the second half, it’s no good, even as consolation. They scored a few goals – the game’s over.- SkySports

Can Luke Malaba Be Trusted With Finding Tapiwa Makore’s Missing Skull?
By A Correspondent | The Tapiwa Makore missing skull trial which Chief Justice Luke Malaba took over to finalise in July has dragged on into October.
Justice Malaba in May ordered the four Tafadzwa Shamba, uncles Tapiwa Makore senior, Thanks Makore, and Ms Maud Hunidzarira, to appear before him on the 27th June 2022.
The trial was back then scheduled to last 5 days.
Tapiwa’s decapitated body was buried seven months later, with the head missing, following the intervention of traditional healers.
The suspects Tafadzwa Shamba, Tapiwa Makore Senior, Maud Hunidzarira and Thanks Makore denied the allegations when they appeared before Justice Munamato Mutevedzi.
The prime suspect Shamba, who was represented by Tinashe Mavhaire and Mutsa Chivandire from Chivandire, Mavhaire and Zinto Law Chambers told the court that he admitted to the allegations under duress after being assaulted by the investigating officers.
Shamba, who was the gardener of the deceased’s father and was linked to the offence by his blood-soaked pair of trousers, denied the link saying the blood spots that were found on his pair of trouser were from a chicken he had slaughtered at Makore Snr’s homestead.
He also stated that the blood stains found on his vest were menstrual blood left by his friend’s girlfriend.
Shamba also denied that he sold human remains to one Joiner Tangarire saying he had regularly sold him beef for over a year.
“Shamba was heavily assaulted by police from CID Murehwa using iron bars, shamboks, sticks and was tied with rope for more than five hours to make admissions to this offence. He will state that he was forced to admit the offence. All indications are denied as they are done under a prolonged physical assault and duress by the police officers,” Shamba’s lawyers submited.
“Shamba was advised that the President had declared that he should be killed and was taken to Marondera for burial. He was told by the police to implicate others as co-pepetrators. He was told what to say by the police on camera.”
Tapiwa’s mother Linda Munyori narrated how she sent her child to the garden after she prepared food for him until the time he disappeared.
The second witness Julia Kamunda who had told the police that her son was asked by Shamba to call the deceased from the garden and denied the statement saying she was forced to lie.
Kamunda had told the police that her son James Makore was sent by Shamba to collect the now deceased from the garden.
“I then advised James Makore not to tell anyone about the issue. I even threatened to assault him if ever he tells anyone… I went to the garden my son James Makore told me that he had been given US$5 and a green T-shirt by Tapiwa Makore (Senior) for thanking him for assisting Tafadzwa Shamba to call the nov deceased,” Kamunda told the police at the time.
But in court she denied all her statements saying she was assaulted by the police together with her husband who is not a witness in the matter.
The other three also denied the offence saying they were assaulted by the police to give statements that were told by the police.
The trial continues – Additional reporting, Newsday

Brutal Mnangagwa Planning To Keep Sikhala In Jail Until 2023
Tinashe Sambiri|Bishop Ancelimo Magaya has challenged the Zanu PF leader Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa to release jailed political activists.
According to Bishop Magaya, Mnangagwa wants to keep Sikhala in prison until 2023- after elections.
Bishop Magaya further argues Mr Mnangagwa is not at all ready for free and fair elections.
See statement below:
There is no question about the fact of President Mnangagwa’ unpreparedness for free, fair and credible elections for 2023.
His grip on the judiciary is scary. The courts that are supposed to be honorable are making very political verdicts on behalf of the state. The blatant miscarriages of justice are revulsive not only to the public but before God (Isaiah 1: 21 & 23).
The pastors and congregants that were arrested because they were praying for their country on June 10 are still on remand thou out of custody. Sikala and team are wallowing in prison. Tsitsi Dangarembwa and Julie Barnes have unjustly been convicted. My sensing is that they want to keep Sikala and team in jail till elections. They should prove this thinking wrong and release them. This continued harassment are deliberately schemed to give warnings to anyone who would like to exercise their constitutional rights.
The increasing closure of civic space is unprecedented in Zimbabwe and reminisces Rhodesian era where smith would label our freedom fighters ”terrorists” conveniently so, to justify his repressions.
It is very saddening that whilst the aforementioned is self evident both the general citizenry and the church in particular seem to undermine the power that is reposed in them.
The save Zimbabwe campaign: a church led initiative almost broke the spin of Mugabe regime as we organized series of protests and prayer meetings/activities whose climax was the 11th of March 2007. Resulting from these initiatives was an emergence of AU meeting in Tanzania which led to elections whose outcome we all know. The ZCBC pastoral letter of August 2020 was both a bomb and a galvanizing factor.
The church and the citizenry were ready for action and then there was a sudden lull resulting from a backlash. The spontaneity with which the citizens gathered at the court in solidarity with pastor Evan in July of 2016 should never be separated from his initial release.
To the church, a reading of scriptures clearly shows that with the advent of the Holy Spirit in Acts chapter 2, there was an increase of impact in the ministry of the apostles in the public space. Note also Micah 3:8 “ The spirit of the Lord is upon me, he has annointed me to rebuke Jacob of his sin and Israel his iniquity “.
The question of the application of theology to public space such as economic and politics is pictured with abundance in scriptures. Finally to the citizenry, we should glean lessons from the South Africans who gathered at the court in numbers in solidarity with the EFF members. We should all relentlessly demand the Zimbabwe we want and it will be delivered. God save Zimbabwe.
Let it be known that Ed together with his rogue judiciary stand guilty before the heavens for convicting the innocent like Tsitsi Dangarembwa and Julie Barnes for exercising their rights, whilst murderers like Sanyatwe and many more are rewarded. This is not the Zimbabwe we want.

Nakamba’s Net Income Rises
Marvelous Nakamba and Jordan Zemura’s net incomes are set to rise after a decision to cut the highest tax rate and national insurance.
According to The Times, the UK government has reduced the highest tax bracket (annual earnings over £150,000) from 45% down to 40.
Nakamba’s earnings are believed to be around £1,690,000 per year after signing a contract with Aston Villa in 2019.
With the latest tax cut, the Zimbabwean midfielder’s annual net income will rise by around £90,000.
Bournemouth’s Zemura is currently among the lowest paid players in the EPL, and his salary is outside the highest tax bracket.
But with talks of a new deal underway, the Warriors international could also benefit from the tax reform should he gets something better.
Top earners like Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo are expected to have a £1.3m rise.
According to one Premier League chief, the tax cuts will attract more foreign stars.
The chief told the publication: “Tax can be an issue when negotiating transfers, as players want to know their net income, so I’m sure the tax cut will make the Premier League more attractive.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Zvenyika of Mpandawana Village under Chief Gutu allegedly stole a Samsung J4 Core with US$50 in the pouch, US$1 Buddie recharge voucher and a Zanu PF membership card from Joseph Mutema (35) before escaping Police custody on the same day.
It is the State case that on the day, Zvenyika had an altercation with a council worker, Richard Manyika outside Mutema’s shop. Mutema tried to refrain the two but failed and he called Manyika’s supervisor to intervene.
Mutema then allegedly put his phone to Manyika’s ear so that he could speak to his supervisor but Zvenyika grabbed the phone and ran away. Mutema then filed a report to Police officers who were patrolling the terminus.
Zvenyika was arrested and he escaped from the officers at the terminus before he was rearrested and taken to Gutu Police Station. He initially appeared in court on Friday.-Masvingo Mirror

He was assaulted after being allegedly found in possession of stolen copper cables.
Mrs Chaurura said dockets relating to the cases were opened at Waterval Police Station.
But no reports on the arrest of suspects have been received.
Added Mrs Chaurura: “The Mission further established details of 113 Zimbabweans who had been affected by the community violence.
“However, this number was not exhaustive because there were reports of several other people who had been displaced, but kept themselves in hiding for fear of further violence and detection by law enforcement agents.”
Mrs Chaurura said the consulate team succeeded in engaging local authorities and relevant stakeholders with a view to ensure that peace was restored in the community.
She said there were also consultations on the provision of temporary shelter for the displaced families.
In addition, the repatriation documents were issued to those whose resolution was to return to Zimbabwe.
“For this category, the Mission extended an offer for government funded repatriation and family reunification assistance,” said Mrs Chaurura.
“The Consulate stands ready to continue working closely with local authorities to ensure the protection of Zimbabwe nationals in various communities.”
Mrs Chaurura said consultations were still underway using the established platforms of dialogue, with a view to develop strategies that will see an end to such heinous acts.
“The ultimate objective is to ensure peaceful co-existence among communities,” she said.
Mrs Chaurura encouraged Zimbabweans in South Africa to establish contact with the Embassy and the two Consulates in times of distress in order to enable them to knowledgeably engage the host government authorities for necessary support.
Zimbabweans in South Africa were also called upon to uphold the good image of the country by desisting from engaging criminal activities.
“We call upon our compatriots to commit themselves to hard work, bearing in mind that we are the custodians of brand Zimbabwe in our individual capacities,” said Mrs Chaurura.
“It is, therefore, imperative for us all to espouse the highest standards of integrity in our daily routines.” Herald
Zambia Drops VISA Requirements
By- The Zambian government has removed visa requirements for the European Union, China, and the United States of America to boost the country’s tourism sector.
According to NewZimbabwe, the southern African nation is currently working towards growing the tourism sector by doubling its earnings.
In an update on the weekend, the Zambia Tourism Authority (ZTA) announced that there would be no VISA requirements for the United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, Norway, Australia, China, South Korea, Gulf Estates and the European Union.
In 2019, Zambia approved its Tourism Master Plan 2018 to 2038, a 20-year practical development strategy to enhance the economic contribution of the tourism sector to the southern African nation’s economy. The country’s tourism sector market information said:
Currently the fastest-growing economic sector in the country – contributing US$1,8bn last year. The vision is for Zambia to rank among the most-visited holiday destinations in Africa.
The country’s tourism sector has been growing since 2017 when the country recorded one-million tourist arrivals.
In a bid to keep the momentum, the government is working on providing an investor-friendly environment and improving accessibility to the country.
This has included the re-introduction of a national carrier and visa reforms.
Nick Aslin, founder and director of Zambian Ground Handlers says a brand-new building in Livingstone and Lusaka is due to open at year-end.
War Of Words Over ZEPs
By- The South African government has ’ dismissed reports saying he extended the Zimbabwean Exemption Permits (ZEPs) to June 2023 as a strategy to help the ruling Zanu PF rig elections scheduled for next year.
SA home affairs minister Aaron Motsoaledi has
Motsoaledi extended ZEPs in late August, arguing that the department had received few applications by Zimbabwean nationals for ordinary visas at that time.
Motsoaledi had, throughout the year, vowed not to renew the expiring ZEPs, meaning its holders would have to return home at the end of 2022.
Civil society organisation, the Helen Suzman Foundation (HSF), which had launched a legal challenge against the planned cancellation, said it would continue with the court fight. It added;
There is now some speculation that the reason for this most recent six-month extension is that it is a sop to Zimbabwe’s ruling party, Zanu PF: delaying the return of those who fled its murderous policies until after the next elections, scheduled for early 2023, means they cannot vote against Zanu.
In response, Minister Motsoaledi dismissed the suggestion as a “ridiculous” and “bizarre conspiracy theory”. He said in a statement:
… if HSF’s worry is the outcome of elections in Zimbabwe, then in that event, the Minister publicly challenges HSF to use its massive resources to mobilise all the Zimbabwean nationals in South Africa go and participate in the 2023 elections.
In this manner the HSF will be putting their money where their mouth is. After all, it is a democratic obligation of a citizen of any country to vote in any elections in order to influence the direction that their country takes.
South Africa’s ruling ANC party has faced criticism for not being tougher with authorities in Harare who face allegations of human rights abuses, electoral fraud and crackdowns against the opposition.
Cancellation of the ZEP would affect some 178 000 holders.
The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT) recently estimated that 700 000 Zimbabweans were based in South Africa.
Tenax Keep Hopes Of Survival Alive
Tenax edged Yadah 1-0 in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at the National Sports Stadium today, a result which boosts their chances of surviving relegation.
Panashe Mutasa’s solitary second half strike was all the Mutare-based side needed to register a hard-fought win away from home.
This was their second victory on the bounce after they edged struggling Harare City 1-0 in Mutare last week.
Tenax are now four points above the drop zone, with 28 points from 28 matches.
The battle for survival continues tomorrow when Harare City travel to Rusape to face Black Rhinos at Vengere while bottom-placed WhaWha host Bulawayo Chiefs at Ascot.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe
Mukanya Fails To Attend Brother’s Burial Due To Political Presecution
By A Correspondent
Chimurenga music guru Thomas Mukanya Mapfumo will miss the burial of his brother Lancelot as he fears for his life.
Lancelot is one of the founding members of the Blacks Unlimited and a brother to Mukanya, who died last month in the US.
In an exclusive interview with the Standard from his United States base on Friday, Mapfumo said he will not make the trip to Zimbabwe for the burial of Lancelot. He said:
Lancelot was my brother, workmate and friend. I and the band have lost someone we worked with throughout our lives. It won’t be possible to fill his gap.
Lancelot will be buried in Zimbabwe, his homeland. We are making arrangements to bring his body from here.
Unfortunately, I won’t make the trip to Zimbabwe because of political reasons, as you know I am not a favourite of the government.
I fear for my life and safety if I come to Zimbabwe.
Mukanya has been living in the United States for many years after fleeing persecution during the Robert Mugabe era. He was a critic of the regime.
Mapfumo is also critical of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime.
He says Zimbabwe is not moving forward adding that the current government has failed the people and the gains of liberation have been wiped off. He added:
I am totally against the Mnangagwa regime. People, the young people should take into the streets and remove Mnangagwa.
I hate an oppressor, that’s why I am in exile. If it was to me I would be living large in Zimbabwe with farms and stealing money like they do, but I decided to stand with the people.
He said he stands with the oppressed, a message inherent in his music.
Mapfumo was imprisoned during the Smith regime and after independence criticised the new black government led by Robert Mugabe for corruption.
He was targeted and harassed prompting him to move to the United States in the late 1990s.
After Mugabe’s overthrow in 2017, Mapfumo returned to Zimbabwe in 2018, to a massive show named ‘Homecoming Bira’ in the capital.
He returned to his base after a four-month-long visit, but Mapfumo now claims that he is not safe from political danger.
Chaos At Bosso, FC Platinum Tie
Yesterday’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash between Highlanders and FC Platimum had the ingredients for a thriller.
The most in-form teams in the league were meeting at a venue which always attracts good crowds despite the well-documented low attendance at PSL matches.
Days before the clash, Bosso coach Baltermar Brito had a special plea to the club’s supporters.
The Portuguese mentor, who has transformed Bosso since his arrival in June and earned the respect and admiration of the ever-demanding Amahlolanyama faithful, implored supporters to be on their best behaviour when they face Norman Mapeza’s charges.
“We expect our stadium to be packed with the good behaviour of the supporters. It doesn’t make sense for the club to be getting fines because of bad behaviour from our fans. So, we ask the supporters to come in large numbers and please behave well for the game to finish,” Brito said.
But his words, just like those of the club leadership on countless occasions, fell on deaf ears.
A section of Bosso fans invaded the Mpilo end housing FC Platinum supporters and bullied the latter away from the stand.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe
Hwange Return To PSL
Hwange have earned promotion to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) after edging Indlovu Iyanyathela 1-0 at the Colliery today, to be crowned Southern Region Division One winners.
Chipangano, whose return to the country’s top flight after they were relegated in 2019 was a question of when not a matter of if, needed only a point in today’s encounter to seal promotion.
They have won the region’s sole ticket to the PSL with two games to spare.
Hwange, who are under the guidance of former Bulawayo City coach Try Ncube, won 27 of their 33 matches.
They will be joined in the PSL by Simba Bhora (Northern Region), Green Fuel (Eastern Region), and Sheasham (Central Region).- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

World Mental Health Day Message

Cleric Confronts Mnangagwa Over Sikhala Detention

High Court Judges Openly Exposed For Being Captured By Mnangagwa
A Constitutional Court judge has come out guns blazing against a litigant who accused the bench of being captured by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Justice Bharat Patel said Tichaona Mupasiri must apologise and be censured after he accused the court of being captured.
Mupasiri said the ConCourt was captured in his application to join a case involving Mnangagwa and his lawyer Edwin Manikai on one hand and businessman Mutumwa Mawere, friends of Shabani and Mashava Mines on the other hand.
In his judgement, Patel gave Mupasiri an ultimatum to apologise saying his language brought the judiciary into disrepute.
“It is ordered that the applicant (Mupasiri) be and is hereby censured for his use of inappropriate language in his founding affidavit casting aspersions on the integrity and impartiality of the court,” Patel said.
“The applicant shall file with the registrar a letter of apology in respect of his conduct referred to in paragraph | above by not later than 4.00 pm on the 23rd of September 2022.”
Mupasiri’s application for a joinder was, however, granted and with no order for costs.
“The applicant shall lodge his application and founding papers in Case No. CCZ 27/22 on or before the 30th of September 2022.
“The matter shall thereafter proceed in accordance with the rule,” he ruled.
Mupasiri had filed a ConCourt application seeking to be joined in the court proceedings citing Mawere, SMM Holdings Limited, Africa Resources, TAP Building Products and Mnangagwa as respondents.
On December 17, 2021, Mupasiri launched an application to have him joined to the ConCourt proceedings over Shabani Mashava Mines Holdings.
On December 24, Mupasiri received opposing papers through DMH legal firm whose managing partner was implicated in the case.
This was despite his application having been served on the president as a public office bearer under Section 167 of the constitution.
Mupasiri then wrote to Manikai, one of the DMH managing partners, on December 27 challenging the authority of DMH to represent Mnangagwa in his official capacity as the president when the law says it should be done by the attorney-general (AG).
Mupasiri then filed an interlocutory application on January 25 this year which was dismissed, and the matter was allegedly “swept under the carpet”.
Mupasiri was later slapped with a costs order in a constitutional matter which involved the president who was never served with the copy of his application because his office, including the AG’s office, refused to accept service.
On May 27, Mupasiri filed an appeal against the cost order, but Chief Justice Luke Malaba dismissed the appeal saying even wrong decisions by the ConCourt are not appealable or reviewable.
Mupasiri argued his application was meant to test the rule of law and constitutionalism in the country.

“You Are Our Conscience”: Perm Sec Tells CGAIZ
Industry and Commerce permanent secretary Mavis Sibanda on Thursday last week urged chartered governance professionals to continue participating in national development by providing professional leadership in both private and public organisations.
“Your profession is our conscience. You are our conscience,” she told participants in the annual conference of the Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute in Zimbabwe in Victoria Falls.
“Government takes your profession seriously,” she said. “Remain alive to global changes as you strive to position a future-fit chartered governance and accountancy profession in Zimbabwe,” she said before declaring the conference officially open.
She praised the institute for the partnerships it has entered into with the Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission.
“I wish to challenge you to expand your collaborations with other government ministries and parastatals to ensure that good corporate governance principles are enhanced in public sector operations,” she said.
Dr Sibanda said the conference theme, which is ‘Marching towards Vision 2030: Positioning a Future-fit Chartered Governance and Accountancy Profession in Zimbabwe’, was timely and in sync with the Second Republic’s thrust of achieving greater economic prospects across all sectors of the economy to promote sustainable economic growth and development.
“This year’s theme is timely, given the centrality of the profession in prudent planning, resource utilisation and implementation of strategic goals at both institutional and national levels,” she said.
Dr Sibanda said high quality corporate governance and accounting are key ingredients in improving transparency and facilitating mobilisation of both domestic and international investments.
“Moreover, these fundamentals aid in creating a sound investment climate, thereby fostering investor confidence and promoting financial stability in the economy,” she said.
She challenged conference participants to be open minded, expand their horizons and consolidate the gains made so far in the economy through what she said was the prevailing macroeconomic stability.
“Today we are witnessing consistent stability in the exchange rate, a declining month-on-month inflation rate and improved capacity utilisation by industry, just to name but a few key economic variables which are necessary for promoting economic growth in the country,” she said.
“The positive trend is a true testimony that the robust policies and cocktail measures being implemented by the government are bearing fruits.
CGAIZ TWO LAST
“May I therefore invite you professionals to take advantage of the many opportunities prevailing in the economy as a result of a plethora of macroeconomic reforms that the government is pursuing,” she said.
She said the institute remains versatile and is widely known for promoting a culture of good corporate governance, accountability and efficient administration of public and private resources.
“In doing so you continue to immeasurably contribute towards the building of our economy,” she said.
Responding to Dr Sibanda’s address, the president of CGAIZ, Mr Jonathan Dube, said that Zimbabwe was “at the centre of our heart”.
“We have to ask ourselves what legacy are we going to leave as professionals. Do we want to leave a country that has corruption or thrives on financial engineering?” he asked, adding, to applause from conference participants, that the institute supports government initiatives and pledged to work with government.
Later, during a panel discussion, Dr Sibanda said there was a lot that industry was doing but it was not being publicised.
“Every time I visit industries there is a lot going on,” she said.
The conference is being attended by more than 200 participants.
Issued on behalf of the Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute in Zimbabwe by MHPR Public Relations Consultants, 59 Van Praagh Avenue, Milton Park, Harare.

Zimsec Official In Soup Over Exam Results Certificate Forgery

Govt Says Bread Price Will Fall On The Back Of Bumper Wheat Harvest
By-The troubled Zanu PF government has issued a bread propaganda statement to calm the pressed citizens who can longer afford to buy bread.
A loaf of bread costs US$1,20, and the clueless Emmerson Mnangagwa administration blames this astronomical price on the Russia-Ukraine war.
On Friday, the regime said the bread prices would drop owing to “a bumper wheat harvest”.
Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Minister Anxious Masuka told reporters in Harare.
“To cushion consumers with affordable flour and bread, the price of wheat to millers by the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) will be reduced by 4,4 percent from US$680 per metric tonne to US$650 per metric tonne, payable in the ratio of US$33:$67 (33 percent payable in US dollars and 67 percent in local currency).
“The price also takes into consideration macroeconomic fundamentals and the likely impact of the floor price on the exchange rate, and the price of commodities such as flour and bread,” said Masuka.
Wheat and wheat flour imports, Masuka said, will be suspended, as the country anticipates self-sufficiency in domestic requirements. Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe chairperson Mr Tafadzwa Musarara explained the mechanics behind the expected drop in the price of bread.
“With the bumper harvest that has a surplus to our local requirement, it means we are going to export some of our soft wheat in return for the 30 percent hard wheat, which is a smart way of doing business because we will not need foreign currency to import.
“What this means is, once we have enough flour at a reduced price as tabled by the Government, the flour price and bread price will eventually drop,” he said.
On Friday, Masuka announced prices of wheat pegged in US dollars to preserve the value of wheat throughout the season, with ordinary grade of wheat slated at US$620 per tonne while premium grade is US$682.

Rape Suspect Nabbed In South Africa
A man who allegedly raped a woman in North West and then escaped from police custody while receiving hospital treatment was rearrested in Tsakane, Gauteng.
Aubrey Zunguza, 27, was initially arrested on a rape charge in Boitekong near Rustenburg in January. He appeared in court and was denied bail.
Police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone said Zunguza fell ill and was admitted to hospital.
While being treated, Zunguza escaped on 20 July, said Mokgwabone.
According to Platinum Weekly, a publication based in Rustenburg, Zunguza is a Zimbabwean national who escaped from Job Shimankana Tabane Hospital while under police guard by breaking the wheelchair he was handcuffed to.
He then fled to Gauteng, where he started a new life and made a living as a hawker selling vegetables in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni, Mokgwabone said.
Zunguza’s arrest last week was by chance due to the alertness of constables Thulani Tshabalala, Lawrence Malaza and Thato Moalusi from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD).
The officers were conducting an operation aimed at curbing driving while under the influence when they stopped at the fire station in Tsakane.
Malaza said:
We were conducting a drunk driving operation in Tsakane that day when I decided to take a detour to the fire station for water. That’s when I met an informant, who I overheard telling one of the officers at the fire station about the suspect.
“The informant apparently overheard a conversation the suspect was having with someone else, telling them that he had escaped from custody in Rustenburg,” he added.
Following the details provided by the informant, Malaza said he reached out to the authorities about the suspect. The officers then carried out a tracking operation.
“We spoke to the Rustenburg police, who gave us details about the suspect, including the case number and a picture of him. After gathering all the information, we began our search.

Chinamasa “Dumped” By Own District
By A Correspondent- Former Finance minister Patrick Chinamasa has reportedly pleaded for the allocation of more central committee seats to Manicaland after he was rejected by his Makoni district at a recent Makoni inter-district meeting.
Party members say he should be contested in the upcoming central committee elections, Standard reported.
a letter dated September 30 addressed to the ZANU PF political commissar Mike Bimha, Chinamasa protested why Makoni was allocated few central committee seats. He wrote:
Further to the appeal made to the Makoni District Coordination chairman (DCC) Albert Nyakuedzwa dated 27 September 2022, concerning the above subject matter, allow me to submit copy of Zanu PF Manicaland province analysis showing distribution of party districts, constituency by constituency and administrative district by administrative district.
The analysis reveals that Makoni district, which has hundred and twelve districts and five constituencies has been allocated two central committee posts whereas Nyanga has two constituencies and thirty-two party districts has been allocated four central committee districts
Clearly the allocation is irrational and defies logic. I add my voice to the appeal by Nyakuedzwa for rectification of the anomaly. The election dates have not been announced.

Mukanya Misses Brother’s Burial, As He Fears Murderous Mnangagwa
By- Chimurenga music guru Thomas Mukanya Mapfumo will miss the burial of his brother Lancelot as he fears for his life.

Top Zambian Court Rules In Favour Of Zim Business Tycoon
By-The High Court of Zambia has ordered the country’s central bank to pay back over US$1 Million to Zimbabwean business tycoon Jayesh Shah.
The money was seized in 1998 from Shah, who has vast business interests in Zimbabwe, Zambia and India, among other countries.
NewZimbabwe reports that the judgment follows a prolonged legal dispute stretching over the past 24 years.
Justice Edward Luputa Musona sitting at the Zambian High Court Thursday found the bank at fault, bringing an end to the long-running dispute. Said the judge in delivering his ruling:
This is proper particularly that the history of litigation, in this case, dates back to the year 1998. It is 24 years old in the courts. It is the Bank of Zambia which has unduly and unjustly perpetuated this case.
This dispute has been in a back-and-forth movement, from High Court to Supreme Court.
This is sad. Litigation must have an end. 24 years in court is too long. Bank of Zambia has abused its immunity against execution. This should end because it is not good governance.
Now, therefore, I order that leave to appeal is granted but subject to a deposit by the Bank of Zambia into court of 30% of the judgment sum being US$139, 191, 386 within the period during which an appeal may be lodged. Parties may proceed to uplift this judgment.
Some Context:
On January 16, 1998, Zambia’s Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) informed Al Shams Building Materials Limited’s bankers – First Merchant Bank Zambia Limited – and the Attorney General that it had seized the firm’s accounts with over US$1 million pending investigations.
The bank was later placed under receivership and on March 16, 1999, the Bank of Zambia ordered its liquidation.
Al Shams Building Materials Limited and Shah approached the Zambia High Court, which on October 12, 1999, ruled that the money should be returned to the owners since the seizure was unlawful and illegal.
The court ruled that in the case of First Merchant Bank failing to reimburse Shah and his company, the Bank of Zambia was held liable and, in the alternative, the Attorney General was ordered to pay if the funds could not be found.
The bank and the Attorney General appealed to the Supreme Court against the ruling and, on November 2, 2000, the appeal was dismissed.
The Supreme Court of Zambia dismissed the Bank of Zambia’s three further appeals on March 28, 2006, December 31, 2012, and May 2, 2014.
The Bank of Zambia, on October 6, 2014, filed a motion on the May 2, 2014 appeal Judgment, 157 days out of time in terms of the laws of Zambia seeking to re-open the 2000 Appeal.
It remains to be seen if the bank will this time give Shah the money.

Mnangagwa’s Fake History Exposed
Desperate Mnangagwa Government In Bread Price Propaganda Drive

ED Challenger’s House Gutted By Fire
Sybeth Musengezi who is challenging President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s legitimacy has said his Harare house was set on fire.
He posted on social media saying his neighbours managed to extinguish the fire.
“410 sandton on fire my house petrol bombed help please. Help please petrol bombing at my house in sandton
This is what they have done. Thanks to the neighbourhood vadzodzima moyo nema buckets
“We managed to get out,” said Musengezi.
Musengezi who has been arrested before, says President Mnangagwa’s rise to power in 2017 was unconstitutional therefore, he is not a legitimate leader.
He recently approached courts seeking an order which stops Mnangagwa from calling and or presiding over the ruling ZANU PF’s elective Congress set for this October.
Some say Musengezi is being sent by Vice President Chiwenga who is allegedly working with G40 remnants to dislodge President Mnangagwa from power.
The fire incident at Musengezi’s residence comes when the next hearing in the case he is challenging Mnangagwa’s legitimacy is set for Monday 3 October 2022.
Only last week, Musengezi claimed that his life was in danger as there were some people who were following him.
“Yes, in recent weeks, I’ve seen a number of unmarked vehicles parked just outside of my yard. Sometimes they park when I’m not there and my colleagues would call me to say there is a vehicle or vehicles without plates parked at home,” said Musengezi.
He said he personally confronted those people and they just drive off.
Litigant Accuses High Court Judges Of Being Captured By Mnangagwa

Mapfumo To Miss Brother’s Funeral, Says Not Safe In Zimbabwe
Exiled Chimurenga musician Thomas “Mukanya” Mapfumo says he will not be able to travel to Zimbabwe for the burial of his late brother Lancelot as he fears for his life.Lancelot, a percussionist, was one of the founding members of the Blacks Unlimited, an outfit that Mukanya fronts.
A few months before his death, Lancelot missed several shows due to illness.Pre-independence, Mapfumo was imprisoned without charges under the Ian Smith Rhodesian regime.
He later went on to be a fierce opponent and critic of the Robert Mugabe regime before being forced into exile in the United States.Mukanya has also rebuked President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime, which ascended to power through a military assisted coup in 2017.
In an exclusive interview with Standard Style from his United States base on Friday, Mapfumo said he will not make the trip to Zimbabwe for the burial of Lancelot.
Mapfumo christened his style of music Chimurenga, aptly meaning a “little flame”, the name of a previous revolutionary movement in the late 19th century which fought against colonialists.
The Vanhu Vatema singer said Zimbabweans should unite against Mnangagwa’s regime. “The country is not moving forward. It’s evident that the current government has failed the people and the gains of liberation have been wiped off,” he said.
“I am totally against the Mnangagwa regime. People, the young people should take into the streets and remove Mnangagwa.
“I hate an oppressor, that’s why I am in exile. If it was to me I would be living large in Zimbabwe with farms and stealing money like they do, but I decided to stand with the people.
“I stand with the oppressed. I am of the freedoms of the people and freeing the black man.”
Mapfumo’s song Hokoyo caught the attention of the then Rhodesian government; aptly meaning “watch out”.
The song was banned on state-controlled radio stations and the Smith regime eventually threw him into prison without charges in 1979.
The imprisonment led to demonstrations in protest of his arrest and the government was pressured to release him after three months in prison camp.
After independence, Mapfumo would again criticize the government led by Robert Mugabe that he helped bring to power.
In 1989, Mapfumo released a politically charged album Corruption, which criticised Mugabe and his government.
The singer became a target of the state and a regular receiver of harassment in the hands of the state. He was at one time accused of theft of a motor vehicle.
The musician later moved to the United States in the late 1990s.
After Mugabe’s overthrow in 2017, Mapfumo returned to Zimbabwe in 2018, to a massive show named ‘Homecoming Bira’ in the capital.

Conte Rules Out Return To Juventus
Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte says the rumours linking him with a return to Juventus are disrespectful to both himself and the Serie A club’s current manager Massimiliano Allegri.
The Spurs gaffer was last week linked with a sensational return to Italy if Juve sack Allegri.
The Italian report suggested that Conte is ‘open’ to rejoin the Turin side, where he won three titles from 2011-14 and the club are encouraged to take him on board by the fact that he is yet to extend his Spurs deal beyond next summer.
But Conte has rejected the rumours, saying he is happy at the EPL club.
“It is incredible in this period. I think this is disrespectful for the coach that works in Juventus and it was disrespectful for me working for Tottenham,” the gaffer told reporters ahead of hs team’s Premier League game against Arsenal on Saturday.
“We have just started the season. Many times I spoke about this topic and I always said I’m happy and enjoying my time with Tottenham. Then, we have the whole season to find the best solution for the club, for me.
“For sure, I am enjoying the time to work in Tottenham. I have a great relationship with the owner, with [football managing director Fabio] Paratici. I don’t see problems for the future.
“Now it is important to be focused. We signed the contract because both parts agreed to sign the contract and for this reason I don’t see a problem in this moment. I don’t want in the future to listen to someone speaking about this because I repeat: this is disrespectful for another coach and also for me.”
Meanwhile, Spurs can take top spot in the Premier League with a victory against leader Arsenal.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe
Body “Disappears ” From Grave
By- Hamudakwadi villagers of Mutasa district in Manicaland were shocked after a corpse of a nine-month-old boy disappeared from the grave three weeks after his burial on the banks of Matsungu River in Mutasa District,
The Manica Post reports that the clothes in which the baby was buried in – a white napkin, a yellow pair of fleece trousers, a jacket, a green hat, a white baby blanket and a white towel – were found neatly folded and placed near the baby’s desecrated grave by his mother, Ms Martha Matembedza of Hamunakwadi Village.
Right next to baby Abraham Benza’s yawning grave was all the soil that had been dug out of the grave, forcing the Mutasa community to rule out the theory that wild animals or dogs could have exhumed the body from the grave.
Sandy soil was also sprinkled at the area. The shocking incident was, however, allegedly swept under the carpet by the baby’s father, Mr Osward Benza and his Johanne Marange Apostolic church mates who reburied the clothes in the same grave two days after the discovery.
Abraham died on August 9 at the church shrine in Mutasa after a short illness.
The illness had also claimed his three-year-old sister a fortnight before that.
The two children’s deaths were not registered.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka could neither confirm nor deny that a police report had been made.
However, police in Mutasa confirmed that a report was made and when they attended the scene, they observed that the grave had been tampered with.
A report obtained by The Manica Post reads: “The deceased was buried in a shallow grave on the Matsungo River bank. His clothes, a blanket and a towel were at the scene partially covered with sandy soil. No spores were observed at the scene and Abraham’s body could not be located.”
The traditional leadership in the area said it was yet to come to terms with the shocking incident.
Village Head Hamunakwadi, Mr Edward Chakanyuka said investigations into the matter were halted after the father said his church would handle the matter.
“We reported the matter to the police and when the police came, they dismissed claims that wild animals or dogs had exhumed and devoured the corpse. No bones were found and a docket has since been opened.
“However, as a community we discovered footprints leading to the child’s grave. We searched for the body, but nothing was recovered. The father said he did not suspect any foul play and we were forced to stop searching because of his attitude. We later gathered that he went to the grave in the company of his church members and buried the clothes,” said Village Head Hamunakwadi.
He said he suspected that the Benza siblings succumbed to measles as their parents do not believe in seeking medical attention.
When The Manica Post visited the Benza homestead last week, Mr Benza was not at home.
His phone was also not reachable.
However, his wife said there is more to the corpse’s disappearance.
“My children died in unclear circumstances. They had flu-like symptoms and both died within two days of having contracted the disease. We do not seek medical attention because of our church doctrine.
“We took the ailing children to our church healer and we got help. I know that it was not measles because Abraham had recently recovered from measles when he got these flu-like symptoms that claimed his life.
“My husband says the matter has been concluded and that we will not consult traditional healers or prophets from other churches over this issue as we are not allowed to do that by our church.
“However, we did not stop the community from searching my child’s remains. It is very painful that my two children died one after the other now to learn that Abraham’s corpse disappeared from the grave is like adding salt to my wound.
“I cannot sleep thinking about the whereabouts of my baby’s corpse,” she said as grief overcame her.
Ms Matembedza ruled out suspicions that hyenas or dogs dug the grave and consumed the corpse.
“The grave was only a metre deep, but what everyone witnessed was not the work of wild animals. The clothes were all neatly folded and placed next to the grave.
“No wild animal would have done that. It was only when the police came the next day that we noticed that some of the clothes had some holes. The soil was in one heap and I know that when a dog digs out something, it scatters the soil everywhere. Someone took my son’s body,” she said.
Asked on why they did not seek medical attention for their ailing children, Ms Matembedza said doing so is against their church’s doctrine.
The deceased’s uncle, Mr Maxwell Benza said when Abraham died, he was buried by church members.
“When the corpse disappeared, my brother came with his church mates and re-buried the clothes. They did not consult other family members over the issue.
“When l suggested that we consult prophets from other churches, Osward vehemently refused. I am 78-years-old and I have never witnessed such an incident. A lot of children were buried along the river but the graves remain intact,” he said. Manica Post
Man (51) Dies In Lover’s Arms During S*x Romp
AN elderly man from Bulawayo allegedly died at his equally aged girlfriend’s home in Paddonhurst suburb where he had gone for a weekend romp.
The deceased’s name has been withheld because his next of kin may not yet be aware of his death.
Sources close to the matter said the 51-year-old man visited his 50-year-old girlfriend on 25 September.
“He arrived there in the morning and we are told that soon after being intimate, the man started complaining about feeling hot,” said a source who spoke on condition of anonymity.
“He went to sit on a chair near the door and began experiencing breathing problems. Suddenly, he fell to the ground clutching his chest and died.”

Coup In Burkina Faso
Burkina Faso’s neighbours have condemned Friday’s apparent coup, saying it was “inappropriate” for army rebels to seize power when the country was working towards civilian rule.

Regional group Ecowas described the ousting of leader Lt Col Paul-Henri Damiba as “unconstitutional”.
This is the second time this year the country’s army has seized power.
Both times, the coups’ leaders said they had to step in because national security was so dire.
Burkina Faso controls as little as 60% of its territory, experts say, and Islamist violence is worsening.
Flanked by rebel soldiers in fatigues and black facemasks, an army captain announced on national TV on Friday evening that they were kicking out junta leader Lt Col Paul-Henri Damiba, dissolving the government and suspending the constitution.
Ibrahim Traoré said Lt Col Damiba’s inability to deal with an Islamist insurgency was to blame.
“Our people have suffered enough, and are still suffering”, he said.
He also announced that borders were closed indefinitely, a nightly curfew was now in place from 21:00 to 05:00, and all political activities were suspended.
“Faced with the deteriorating situation, we tried several times to get Damiba to refocus the transition on the security question,” said the statement signed by Traoré.
“Damiba’s actions gradually convinced us that his ambitions were diverting away from what we set out to do. We decided this day to remove Damiba,” it said.
Since the takeover there has been no word on the whereabouts of the ousted leader. – BBC
BREAKING: Jah Prayzah’s Gweru Show Flops
Below is singer Jah Prayzah’s statement on his Gweru show which flopped. Full text:
Last night 3G The Band failed to perform for all the music lovers in Gweru due to most unfortunate circumstances which I shall now elucidate.
Upon engagement with the promoter, the JP management team and organisers agreed on specifics that would make us deliver the best set for our fans. There is a standard for a JP performance set and sadly that standard was not met as agreed upon.
Unfortunately, to begin with, the PA system was way out of the spec range we agreed to and the music lovers had a difficult time with the audibility of the Artists who were performing on stage. The set that was availed was suited for DJ slots and Artists who use Backtracks for their performances and does not require much in terms of the equipment. The performance of a band as large as ours with such equipment was not possible. The performance would have been a terrible experience for our fans and would definitely affect the brand they have grown to love over the years. Any efforts to fix the PA system before we performed(due to changed times) would have exposed the band members to missiles therefore risking their safety. Despite Management’s efforts well ahead of time, the organizers failed to rectify the issue.
Secondly, the performance date we engaged on and agreed to was supposed to have been Friday the 30th of September. The promoter kept pushing our performance time into the early hours of Saturday the 1st of October and this agitated the crowd.
To my fans who braced the night and sacrificed time and money to see us do what we do best, we shall continue to push event organizers to deliver as per agreements and value the time and money that fans put in to support our industry.
Thank you Team JP for your understanding.
Mnangagwa Offers $2 To 2018 Shootings Victims
By-The Emmerson Mnangagwa-led government reportedly gave $1 000 only as “compensation” to families of the August 1, 2018 army shooting victims, NewsDay Weekender has learnt. The amount, given to assist burial of those killed by army personnel during the post-election protests over delayed announcement of presidential election results, translates to less than US$2.
Families of the six people killed during the disturbances opened up this week saying wounds of the incident are still fresh.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa narrowly beat opposition leader Nelson Chamisa in the disputed elections, with the case spilling into the Constitutional Court, where Chamisa lost the challenge.
During the post-election protests the army, using live ammunition, opened fire on fleeing protesters, killing Silvia Maphosa, Galvin Dean Charles, Ishmael Kumire, Jealous Chakandira, Challenge Tauro and Brian Zhuwawo.
Thirty-five others were wounded in the shootings in Harare’s central business district.
The killings hogged the international limelight, forcing Mnangagwa to appoint a commission of inquiry, headed by former South African President Kgalema Motlanthe, to investigate the killings.
Among a raft of recommendations, the commission said families of the deceased should be compensated and that perpetrators be held accountable.
Last week, the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiCZ) hosted a roundtable discussion to measure progress on implementation of the recommendations of the commission, and victims of the deceased expressed sadness over their neglect.
Alison Charles, who lost her brother Galvin Dean, could not hold back her tears saying her brother was killed like a dog”.
“My brother died like a dog. He was never a violent person,” Alison said in-between tears.
“I have tried litigation to no avail. The government is untouchable and unapproachable. The only compensation we got from the government was the $1 000 deposited into our accounts to cover some funeral expenses.
“It was not even enough at the time as we were assisted by loved ones and friends.”
Maxwell Tauro said he wanted justice to find closure over the killing of his son Charles Tauro.
“I found out on social media that my son was shot, but I did not believe it,” he said
“My wounds are still fresh. I can’t even maintain my son’s grave because I have no money. He was our breadwinner.
“I am also demanding justice. We need to know the perpetrators.”
CiCZ chairperson Peter Mutasa said August 1, 2018 brings sad memories, and expressed regret that there is no will on the part of government to compensate the victims.
“We look at the August 1, 2018 shootings with sadness and grief as deceased families are yet to be compensated four years after the shootings,” Mutasa said.
“We are continuing to engage the commission and we have written to them and I don’t know if it’s bad or good news. Our secretariat has just received communication with the Motlanthe Commission to engage again on September 30.”
Opposition leader Linda Masarira, who testified before the Motlanthe commission, later donated five bags of cement to Tauro for his son’s grave.
“There is no political will to compensate the victims. There should be a special fund to compensate the families,” Masarira said. Newsday
Commotion As Zimbabwe “Stops” Producing Passports
By- Zimbabwe has been forced to temporarily halt issuing passports after it has run out of passport production paper.
The situation according to an online portal, NewZimbabwe has left hundreds stranded at the Registrar-General’s (RG) office.
The online newspaper said that sources informed them passport production had stopped.
Said the news sources:
There is no paper and the contractors contracted to produce the e-passports have not been paid.
This would be the second time Zimbabwe’s e-passport processing system has run aground in two months with authorities unsure of when the crisis will be over.
Mavaza: Govt Not To Blame for Energy Crisis
It’s not just Zimbabwe even Europe and the United States tear dropping prices are wreaking havoc around the world.
By Dr Masimba Mavaza | Zimbabwe has been facing unprecedented challenges with electricity and people are getting agitated. The former minister of energy Fortune Chasi was released of his duties and Minister Zhemu was brought in but the darkness has become more pronounced than light. Fraustrated citizens try to blame ZANU PF and the hard working president Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa.
The CCC and their disgraced parrot Hopewell Ching’ono have tried to put the electricity problems at ZANU PD’s door steps.
The energy crisis is not peculiar to Zimbabwe. It is now a global crisis. The world started to experience energy crisis for a decade now. However this became more visible in 2021.
The 2021–present global energy crisis is the most recent in a series of circular energy shortages experienced over the last fifty years. It is more acutely affecting countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, China, United States and Zimbabwe among others. The crisis has emerged in oil, gas and electricity markets.
Power outages are the average number of power outages that establishments experience in a typical month or week as the problem become more and more pronounced globally.
Failing power grids are a leading reason for disastrous power outages that can affect residential and commercial activities. Countries that fail to invest in modern technologies for their power grids run the risk of suffering great financial loss. Power loss can range from a few hours to several days. While modern power grids have better technology than those in the past, they are still prone to risks of their own. Power outage causes can range from solar flares to cyber-attacks. However, since much of the world does not have access to the latest technologies they are destined to suffer the largest relative losses due to power outages.
Zimbabwe has seen it’s fair share of outages but it is not the most affected country.
Now as Russia becomes economical with Europe’s gas supply, the world is staring down a worrisome energy future. This has serious ripple effects and can be felt as far as Zimbabwe. It is not a fallacy when Zimbabwe points at Ukraine Russian war as another source of outages in the country. For months, sky-high natural gas and oil prices have been wreaking havoc around the world, and experts warn that there is no end in sight as long as the war in Ukraine barrels on.
From Ecuador to South Africa, to Zimbabwe fuel shortages and blackouts have plunged import-dependent countries into economic turmoil, leaving desperate governments scrambling for workaround solutions.
Zimbabwe depends more on import and export and the world crisis in power hits Zimbabwe right in the heart. Our economy is not spared and it’s a pity that opposition politicians seek to use electricity shortages as a campaign point. The power outages affect the richest countries how can CHAMISA turn that around. Politics of opportunity leads people into more darkness.
In Sri Lanka, which was already buckling under mounting crises, acute shortages and dayslong lines have forced authorities to issue work-from-home orders. Pakistan has resorted to shortening its work week to relieve pressure from lengthy power cuts, while Panama has been rocked by demonstrations over surging prices. This crisis had not spared Zimbabwe. The state of the electricity supply in Zimbabwe does not reflect the ability to govern or lack of it by ZANU PF. Those who blame ZANU PF for the darkness are shameless opportunists who are just after self aggrandisement and have no people at heart.
“We are experiencing the first global energy crisis,” said Jason Bordoff, an energy expert at Columbia University, who noted that the crunch has hit almost all of the world’s regions and energy sources. “The ripple effects are being seen globally, and I don’t think we’ve seen the worst of it yet.”
Markets were already tight before Russia invaded Ukraine, the result of a combination of the pandemic, supply chain slowdowns, and climate shocks. That was compounded by curtailed Russian gas exports, which forced Europe to turn elsewhere for its supplies and further drove up prices in the global marketplace. Now, as climate change-fueled extreme heat adds more fuel to the fire, these challenges have only deepened. Surely these challenges can never be translated as the failures of ZANU PF. It is a desperate move for the CCC to use electricity problems as a campaign tool. The opposition politricks must realise that.
“It’s just an interconnected global system,When you put pressure in one place, it is felt somewhere else.” So the shortages of electricity in Zimbabwe has nothing to do with the government’s way of governing.
The last time the world experienced a disastrous energy crunch—albeit only for oil—it was the 1970s, and OPEC had imposed an embargo that sent shockwaves through the oil industry. That crisis birthed the International Energy Agency (IEA) and pushed industrialized nations to develop strategic reserves in preparation for future supply disruptions. said Antoine Halff, an expert at Columbia University’s Center on Global Energy Policy. But alas many emerging market economies and debt-laden countries including Zimbabwe don’t have this same cushion, leaving them especially exposed to any disturbances. This is a global problem which affects us as a nation.
Today, Zimbabwe is a whole new cast which has been developing rapidly and has been using more and more energy—and that’s a great sign that reflects its economic development. But that also made Zimbabwe much more vulnerable to disruption risks, and it is not part of that safety net of the IEA. Development which has been brought in by ED and ZANU PF has put more demand of electricity and this has made the shortages very visible. Instead of celebrating the development brought in by ED and ZANU PF the detractors are busy cherry picking problems and package them as failure.
“Take Pakistan, which has been struggling to cope with power cuts, or Ecuador, where deadly protests over surging fuel prices and costs brought the country to a near standstill in June. In recent weeks, both Ghana and Cameroon have been gripped by protests over fuel prices and shortages. So have Argentina and Peru, where surging energy costs have sparked strikes and demonstrations.
“The poorest countries in the world are struggling economically already, are in weak fiscal positions, and are just struggling to afford energy at all,” Bordoff said. “You’re going to see, I think, worse risk of rolling blackouts and trouble keeping the lights on and the electricity going in parts of the world that are lower income and don’t have stable electricity grids to begin with.” Zimbabwe does not exist on its own and it is indeed affected as much as other countries are affected.
Some countries are already in the dark. South Africa, which is certainly no stranger to load-shedding, has been plagued by rolling blackouts as it grapples with one of its worst-ever energy crises. So has Cuba, which was already suffering under widespread power outages. To avoid meeting the same fate, other nations have turned back to coal. As the energy crisis deepened in May, India pledged to restart coal mines and ramp up production; in June, India’s imports of coal reached record levels. And the country could be in it for the long haul, Indian Power Minister Raj Kumar Singh warned.
What the opposition is doing now is so potentially politically perilous because it really causes so much misery for so many citizens and it is raising anger in people for a situation which has gripped the world.
The opposition has not given the
People a way forward except just blaming ZANU PF.
Commenting on Russia’s war Dr Croft said “We could be looking at more disruption in the energy market and higher prices for oil come December, depending on how these sanctions are enforced,” Croft said.
And experts say the future of the crisis is deeply intertwined with the duration of the Russia-Ukraine war, which shows no signs of stopping. “It’s going to continue as long as this war goes on,” Ferreira said. “We see no indications that we are nearing an off-ramp here in the conflict.”
With 2023 beckoning nobody as power to improve power outages and this can not be laid on ZANU PF’s doorstep. Truth be told the biggest losers worldwide from power outages do not include Zimbabwe. With the way electricity is a problem in Zimbabwe Mnangagwa has kept Zimbabwe out of the top ten most affected countries. This shows that despite the problems we have moved on and we are still on the move. Again many countries have been financially affected by failing power grids. This puts Zimbabwe in the same oven and still this does not reflect failures but this actually shows how resilien is. He is pulling the country through against all odds. As already indicated Zimbabwe is not in the top ten countries prone to financial loss from power outage.
The worst hit country is AFGHANISTAN followed by UGANDA. UNGA Ganda is followed by MADAGASCAR. Other countries in serious power outages are,SOUTH SUDAN,TANZANIA, NIGERIA, GHANA, NEPAL,YEMEN and, PAKISTAN which is the most hit. Zimbabwe is not in the top ten and vilifying it is sheer mischief and unpatriotic. We must know that there are several causes of a power outage, many of which are common around the U.S. and Europe. These include storms, wind, ice, downed power lines, blown transformers , and overloaded power stations to name a few. Vehicle accidents and animal damage can also lead to power outages. Again there are causes of outages which are natural and beyond human control. These are Solar flares which may occur in space, but they have a great impact here on Earth. Powerful energy releases from the sun and creates bursts of solar wind as well as magnetic fields, which interrupt electrical currents. While the effects can happen anywhere, it is much more likely to hit low altitude areas. Again droughts do cause power outage. Uganda and Tanzania have experienced power outages due to low water levels in hydroelectric dams. These dams have electric turbines, which spin when water passes through them. If the water levels get too low, they stop spinning and electricity cuts out. This happens in part due to poor maintenance, but also because these countries often experience droughts.
It is not Zimbabwe which is affected, Much of the developing world does not have access to technology to improve utility infrastructures. Therefore, in countries such as Uganda, Ghana, and Afghanistan, poor infrastructure maintenance is a major cause of power outages. Regardless of the cause, when it comes to power for your home, ED has you covered. We struggle but we get there. Zimbabwe has shown extraordinary power to survive in hard times. These are hard times but ED will get us there. Next time you hear people say Zimbabwe has been mismanaged just remember dogs barks only to a moving car. We are moving as Zimbabwe and as ZANU PF. Move with us.
Grandpa Arrested For Stealing Laptop
By- An 81-year-old man from Mtapa suburb in Gweru has been arrested for allegedly stealing a laptop belonging to a City of Gweru manager during lunchtime at the townhouse.
According to the state media, the laptop was stolen from the Human Resources Manager Mr Japson Nemuseso’s office.
Acting Town Clerk Mr Vakai Douglas Chikwekwe confirmed the incident identifying the suspect as Shingirai Mugabe. He said:
The suspect allegedly entered the townhouse during lunchtime pretending to be looking for old and used printer cartridges. He noticed Mr Nemuseso leaving his office for another office.
Chikwekwe said Mugabe quickly entered the office and grabbed an HP laptop which was on a desk before leaving unnoticed.
He said a few minutes later, Nemuseso returned to his office to find his laptop with the council’s confidential information missing.
He rushed out of the office looking for the suspect and noticed Mugabe walking away with a laptop bag. The suspect was searched and the laptop was recovered. He was taken to Gweru Central Police Station.
The suspect was caught red-handed while attempting to flee from the townhouse with the laptop already stashed in a bag he was carrying.
Mnangagwa Releases 4000 Thieves, Detains Innocent Sikhala & CCC Activists
By- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has granted amnesty to at least 4 000 prisoners and ignored to free CCC deputy chairman Job Sikhala.
Sikhala and his counterpart Godfrey Sithole and 14 CCC activists have now clocked 110 in remand prison after their June arrest for demanding justice for the murdered Moreblessing Ali.
Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa told reporters Thursday that Mnangagwa is releasing 4000 inmates to ease prison congestion.
She said:
The nation is being informed that section 112 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe provides that the President after consultation with Cabinet may exercise the power of mercy to grant pardon to any person convicted of an offence against the law,” Mutsvangwa said.
“The rationale behind the proposal is to decongest our prisons, whose population as at 29 August, 2022 stood at 22 114, against an official holding capacity of 17 000 inmates.
“This situation means that 4 798 inmates do not have adequate floor space as required by the Constitution and compromises the health of inmates, among other challenges.”
Mutsvangwa, however, said not all prisoners were eligible for amnesty especially those convicted of human trafficking, murder and unlawful possession of firearms, among others.
“The amnesty excludes the following categories of prisoners: those previously released on amnesty; those serving a sentence imposed by court martial, those with a record of escaping from lawful custody; and those convicted of committing specified offences,” she said.
“Specified offences include murder; treason; rape or any sexual offences; carjacking; robbery; public violence; human trafficking; unlawful possession of firearms; contravention of the Zesa Act, the PTC Act and Mopa and any conspiracy, incitement or attempt to commit any of these offences.”
In 2021, at least 3 000 inmates were granted presidential amnesty. Newsday
