Woman Who R_aped Minor To Get Pregnant Jailed 12yrs

By A Correspondent- A 27 year old Bulawayo woman has been sentenced to 12 years in prison on two counts of aggravated indecent assault.

Moderate Tichavavamwe (27), who had challenges of conceiving, raped a 15-year-old boy twice in an effort to conceive.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges when she appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Dambudzo Malunga on Friday.

The magistrate, however, convicted and sentenced her to 12 years in prison at the close of the State case. But two years were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

Prosecutor Naison Chivayo said sometime in 2020, Tichavavamwe visited the 15-year-old boy’s mother in Kingsdale seeking assistance on ways to help her conceive and was charged US$25 for the services.

During the same month, Tichavavamwe summoned the 15-year-old boy to her home to repair the solar light and promised to pay him.

The boy repaired the solar light and was given eggs as payment for his services.

The court heard that sometime in March, the minor was again called by Tichavavamwe to her house where she invited him to her room and sexually abused him.

On another count during the same month while at Woodville, Bulawayo, the boy was sent by his father to Tichavavamwe’s home to collect his US$4 for the electric cable she had bought from him.

The woman invited the boy into her room and abused him again.

After the act, the woman gave the boy eggs, dried caterpillars and the US$4 he was sent to collect by his father.

The matter came to light after the boy was caught stealing sugarcane in Mahatshula garden and stated that he had been  sent by Tichavavamwe.

The teenager later opened up and told his father about the abuse.

The matter was reported at Queens Park Police Station, leading to her arrest.

“I am advised that they have been many more handles which have been opened in my name with old pictures of me. The picture appearing on the Twitter handle complained of was taken in 2008 and appeared in a news broadcast on ZBC TV when I was interviewed. It is on the internet.

“The other pictures which have appeared on the Twitter handle were taken in July 2019 at the State House swearing ceremony, while those pictures are of me; it is not my Twitter handle. Therefore, be informed that the Twitter handle you are complaining of is a ghost account and I am not in any way associated with it,” he added.

Mliswa Exposes “Corrupt” Minister

By A Correspondent- Norton legislator (Independent), Temba Mliswa has said Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo was stifling local government authorities through corruption.

He also said despite numeral calls, the government has not acted on reports of corruption against Moyo. He made the remarks in a series of Twitter messages in which he articulated issues overshadowing President Emmerson Mngagwagwa’s success stories.

He said:

Let’s face full-on the issues plaguing us on the ground. Councils are crying out against July Moyo who has a litany of corruption charges which haven’t been pursued. Local authorities are under siege from him and nothing is moving there.

How can we keep quiet in the face of such political profligacy? We have said Devolution is the way to go and yet the Minister is hoarding and abusing power. All these are issues which are detrimental to the positives and take off the glow of achievements elsewhere.

Failure to face and speak about these is actually a travesty that is dangerous to ED. There are a lot of social issues which Gvt has failed to respond to. As I have always argued any economic progress has to be felt in the day-to-day lives of the people!

Recently, Moyo was accused of super-imposing the Pomona Waste of Energy Project deal between the Harare City Council and Geoginix BV.

The deal, which was approved by Cabinet and reportedly forced on Harare City Council by Moyo, is racking up a daily bill of US$22 000 since being penned.

Critics say Moyo was violating the Constitution which states that local government authorities are semi-autonomous.

Most urban councils are run by the opposition and Moyo’s alleged interference is reportedly meant to cause local government authorities to fail to deliver expected public goods and services.

MOREBLESSING ALI MURDER: Simba Chisango Implicates Own Mother

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | The Zimbabwe Republic Police was at the weekend left exposed for unprofessionalism when the brother to the chief suspect in the murder case of CCC activist Moreblessing Ali, Simba Chisango revealed how the cops have failed to arrest his mother for keeping the victim’s corpse for over 3 weeks at her property.

The force was further exposed when in very clear terms, Simba Chisango who is the Nyatsime ZANU PF Chairperson, revealed that his mother is an accomplice in the murder of the 46 year old council worker.

Chisango openly revealed that his mother is guilty of concealing the murder.

Moreblessing Ali disappeared on the night of the 24th May and Chisango in a 30th May interview told ZimEye she was still alive on that day.

The police who instead of arresting several murder accuseds, has in recent days moved to apprehend rather, the victim’s only lawyer, Job Sikhala. In their reportage, the police said Chisango’s brother, Pius Jamba kidnapped Moreblessing, killed her in a nearby bush, and came back to cut her body up before deciding to dump the remains in a nearby well. All this happened sometime during the 3 week period when he later fled to Hurungwe.

Simba Chisango directed journalists to his mother saying she is the one who kept the corpse a secret. He answered clearly saying his mother had done something he should not be held to account on, that is, hiding the corpse, or concealing knowledge of it.

Chisango spoke to ZimEye, on Saturday and the following was the part transcript:

Chisango: “what do you want me to answer you when the corpse was found where it was ? ..

ZimEye: yes the corpse was found, but how did you fail to know of it when it was at the home?

Chisango: Are you now making me out to be a prophet or what?

ZimEye: This is your mother’s house and it’s not very far from where you live, comrade.

Chisango: Why do you appear like you don’t have a mother? If your mother does something, does it mean I am the one who has done it?

The revelations mean that Chisango’s mother, per his words, was hiding Moreblessing Ali’s corpse at her property, contrary to the police account that suggests that the victim’s dismembered remains were found in a distant well. This might also mean Chisango’s mother was there when Moreblessing was killed, if true that the victim was still alive on the 30th May, which means a wounded Moreblessing Ali was likely kept alive for several days at  the mother’s home. Forensic Scientist and TV whistleblower, Shepherd Yuda told ZimEye, the body’s state of decomposition suggests Moreblessing was kept alive for several days after the disappearance on the 24th May.

Drone flights by ZimEye between the 30th May and 7th June led this news network to Simba Chisango’s own home where even kids were being chased away to ward them off Chisango’s home.

It leaves to be seen if the police will perform an arrest on the mother after they apprehended instead, the murder victim’s only lawyer, Job Sikhala over a religious cultural statement he was instructed to announce, per his duty to the family.

Analysts speculate that the police are simply covering up for ruling party ZANU PF members behind the crime. Meanwhile, the family has announced demands saying there will not be any burial until Sikhala is released and all charges against him dropped.    FULL INTERVIEW BELOW

Housemaid Jailed For Attempting To Kill Employer’s Baby

A housemaid was jailed for three years on Wednesday after she was convicted of the attempted murder of her employer’s two-year-old daughter.

Tesla Nyengerai hit the baby with a stone in Eastview, Harare, rendering her unconscious.

The Harare Magistrates Court heard Nyengerai was previously jailed for two years after almost killing another toddler in Chitungwiza, where she worked previously. She was released in 2020 as a beneficiary of a presidential pardon.

Harare magistrate Noticia Shanje said Nyengerai was “unrepentant and a danger to the society” as she sentenced her to one year in prison. She also added her previous two-year sentence because Nyengerai breached the terms of her parole release – that she would not commit a similar offence within five years.

The National Prosecuting Authority proved that on February 15 this year, Nyengerai was left at home taking care of her employer’s two-year-old daughter. Said Hazvinei Chiota-Rukande, prosecuting:

The victim’s mother went to the fields and came back around lunchtime.

When she was about to get home, she met her young son who told her Nyengerai had attacked his sibling with stones, leaving her unconscious.

Nyengerai had fled from the scene but was later caught.

Prosecutors said the toddler was rushed to hospital and police were called. – ZimLive

Mudimu In Poland For Trials

Alec Mudimu is undergoing assessment at Polish second division club GKS Tychy.

The Warriors defender, who also plays as a defensive midfielder, started the trials early in the week when the team regrouped for pre-season camp.

He will feature in scheduled friendly matches during his trial stint, starting with today’s encounter versus Slask Wroclaw.

An update on the club’s website reads: “There are currently two players on trial in the GKS Tychy team.

“Since the beginning of the week, the coaching staff has been watching the Eritrean international Ezana Kahsay, who scored 16 goals in the recent games in the colours of the III Liga (fourth tier) team Chełmianka Chełm.

“A day later, Alec Mudimu joined the team. The Zimbabwean center-back has 26 appearances for the national team. A year ago, he participated in the African Cup of Nations.”

Mudimu is currently unattached after leaving English fifth-tier club Altrincham in March.

The 27-year-old spent just two weeks with the team, making two appearances before deciding to move away.

He had returned to the UK on a free transfer following an unsuccessful six-month spell in Georgia with FC Torpedo Kutaisi.

The nomadic player has also had stints with non-League clubs such as Stalybridge, Northwich Victoria and Stockport Town before moving to the Welsh Premier League with Cefn Druids.

He then played for Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova and Ankaraspor in Turkey.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Billiat No Longer Most Valuable Foreign Player In SA

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Khama Billiat is no longer the most valuable foreign player in the South African Premier Soccer League.

According to the Transfer Markt website, the former Warriors international started the 2021/22 season with a market value of $US1,37m. He experienced a slight rise to $1,47m during the campaign, thanks to his decent performances in the period.

However, Billiat’s new value is not enough to top the list as Mamelodi Sundowns forward Peter Shalulile has become the most valued foreign player in the league.

The Namibian saw his value rising tremendously to $1,8m after some top performances that earned him the SA PSL Footballer of Year and Golden Boot awards.

Shalulile is also the overall MVP in the SA top-flight, followed by his Shndowns teammate and Bafana Bafana midfielder Themba Zwane.

Billiat comes third, with Thapelo Morena and Teboho Mokoena, both from South Africa, completing the top five.

Meanwhile, the market values of other Zimbabwean players in the DStv Premiership have continued to slump over the past seasons.

The top fifty list now contains Billiat and Golden Arrows midfielder Knox Mutizwa, who placed on number 42.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

About Blood Supply…

World Blood Donor Day takes place on 14 June each year. The Day was created to:

raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion;
highlight the critical contribution voluntary, unpaid blood donors make to national health systems;
support national blood transfusion services, blood donor organizations and other nongovernmental organizations in strengthening and expanding their voluntary blood donor programmes by reinforcing national and local campaigns.
The day also provides an opportunity to call to action governments and national health authorities to provide adequate resources to increase the collection of blood from voluntary, unpaid blood donors and to manage access to blood and the transfusion of those who require it.

Blood and blood products are essential resources for effective management of women suffering from bleeding associated with pregnancy and childbirth; children suffering from severe anaemia due to malaria and malnutrition; patients with blood and bone marrow disorders, inherited disorders of haemoglobin and immune deficiency conditions; victims of trauma, emergencies, disasters and accidents; as well as patients undergoing advanced medical and surgical procedures. The need for blood is universal, but access to blood for all those who need it is not. Blood shortages are particularly acute in low- and middle-income countries.

To ensure that everyone who needs transfusion has access to safe blood, all countries need voluntary, unpaid blood donors who give blood regularly. An effective blood donor programme, characterized by wide and active participation of the population, is crucial in meeting the need of blood transfusion during peace time as well as during emergencies or disasters, when there is a surge in demand for blood or when the normal operation of blood services is affected.

While an enabling social and cultural atmosphere with strong solidarity facilitates development of an effective blood donor programme, it is also widely acknowledged that the act of blood donation contributes to generating social ties and building a united community.

Focus of this year’s campaign
For 2022, the World Blood Donor Day slogan is “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives” to draw attention to the roles that voluntary blood donations play in saving lives and enhancing solidarity within communities.

The specific objectives of this year’s campaign are to:

thank blood donors in the world and create wider public awareness of the need for regular, unpaid blood donation;
highlight the need for committed, year-round blood donation, to maintain adequate supplies and achieve universal and timely access to safe blood transfusion;
recognize and promote the values of voluntary unpaid blood donation in enhancing community solidarity and social cohesion;
raise awareness of the need for increased investment from governments to build a sustainable and resilient national blood system and increase collection from voluntary non-remunerated blood donors.

A particular activity that countries in the world are encouraged to implement for this year’s campaign is to disseminate to various media outlets stories of people whose lives have been saved through blood donation as a way of motivating regular blood donors to continue giving blood, and to motivate people in good health who have never given blood to begin doing so.

Other activities that would help promote the slogan of this year’s World Blood Donor Day may include donor appreciation ceremonies, social networking campaigns, special media broadcasts, social media posts featuring individual blood donors with the slogan, meetings and workshops, musical and artistic events to thank blood donors and celebrate solidarity, and colouring iconic monuments red.

Your involvement and support will help to ensure greater impact for World Blood Donor Day 2022, increasing recognition worldwide that giving blood is a life-saving act of solidarity and that services providing safe blood and blood products are an essential element of every health care system. Participation of interested partners is welcome at all levels to make World Blood Donor Day 2022 a global success.

Hopewell, Winky D And Jah Oppressor | SUNDAY TALK

By Dorrothy Moyo | Award winning journalist, Hopewell Chin’ono’s comment calling for the nation to embrace top singers: Winky D And Jah Prayzah attracted mixed reactions with some saying the latter is a different human being because he supports the country ‘s said, ‘oppressor’ Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Should we call him Jah Oppressor then? Mukudzei Mukombe was slammed for his many songs which are used as Mnangagwa’s personal brand. Many Zimbabweans see Mnangagwa’s wing-quack-quack dance as the signature of how Prayzah encourages the self confessing mass murderer to continue committing crimes against his own people. By Jan 2022, Mnangagwa had killed a reported more than 30,000 black Zimbabweans, that’s 9,000 more than those Africans killed under apartheid South Africa since 1600.

Mnangagwa boasts saying all election winners are corpses and that democracy is only found in the world of the dead.

Meanwhile, below were some of the social reactions:

BREAKING: ZRP In Major Flop As Simba Chisango Announces Own Mother Is Guilty Of Moreblessing Murder CoverUp

Moreblessing Ali’s Family Flees

By A Correspondent- The family of the slain activist Moreblessing Ali has been forced to flee their home following sustained threats by suspected state agents and Zanu-PF activists for demanding justice.

The family said that they have abandoned Ali’s residence in Nyatsime because of the victimisation by suspected Zanu-PF activists, who have been threatening them.

“We want Zanu-PF to stop meddling and threatening our family. They have beaten some of our family members,” Washington said.

“Any threats or abuse, no burial. We want to do the final service in Nyatsime, and we don’t want the people who caused the chaos to be present.”

Ali’s son Silence said the family was grateful for the support it was getting from CCC.

“There have also been well-wishers who have been donating, I would like to thank them.”

Ali’s family made several demands before they could bury her, including the release of Zengeza West MP Job Sikhala, who is also their lawyer.

Sikhala was denied bail on Friday on charges of inciting violence following the clashes between Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and Zanu-PF activists at Ali’s funeral in Nyatsime last week.

He is charged alongside MDC Alliance MP Godfrey Sithole.

They are spending the weekend behind bars awaiting the continuation of their bail application on Monday.

“We want our family lawyer to be released so that he can continue helping us on this murder case and also the release of our search party leader Sithole. No release, no burial,” said Moreblessing’s brother Washington.

The family also demanded to see the exact place where Moreblessing was murdered, and demanded a forensic investigation.

Ali’s stepmother Judith Chisiiwa told The Standard the family does not know where  her body was being kept.

“They just told us that we are supposed to collect forensic results on Tuesday,” Chisiiwa said.

“We don’t even know where the body of our relative is.”

Ali went missing on May 24 after she was allegedly attacked and abducted by suspected Zanu-PF thugs among them Pius Jamba who was arrested in Hurungwe last week.

Zanu-PF has denied that Jamba is one of its members.

Ali was found dead on June 11.

Police said her body was cut into pieces and stuffed in a sack.

Her death has fuelled tensions between Zanu-PF and CCC, who have clashed in Nyatsime.

ZINARA Says It Has Reformed

By A Correspondent- State-run Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara), which has been red-flagged in multiple reports by the Auditor General (AG) and parliament for unbridled levels of corruption, looting and nepotism says it has reformed.

In her previous reports, the AG Mildred Chiri raised issues of corporate mis-governance, making the organisation a hub for corrupt activities.

In 2019, Parliament’s public accounts committee chaired by opposition legislator Tendai Biti also unearthed the mismanagement of funds scandal at the parastatal.

Their report exposed how Zinara was paying two salaries for the suspended Nancy Masiyiwa-Chamisa and acting CEO Mathlene Mujokoro.

The road authority was said to be spending thousands of United States dollars on hairstyle, food hampers, and gym allowances for managers.

It was reported that Zinara also spent more than US$60 000 on hairstyle allowance with one boutique pocketing more than US$25 000 on having hair done for its female managers.

The legislators were also notified that Zinara simultaneously spent US$4 000 on each director in buying and installing gym equipment at their residences, while paying monthly subscriptions for their gym at upmarket clubs in Harare.

But presenting at the African Parliamentarians Network against Corruption event in Bulawayo on Friday, Zinara  chairperson George Manyaya said the parastatal had embarked on a transformative journey.

“A new qualified, experienced and ethical board for Zinara has been appointed.

We have appointed qualified, vibrant and hardworking new executives and managers rolling over to 2021,” Manyaya said.

“Necessary approvals are obtained before any payments.

“All positions being advertised with adherence to minimum person specifications.

“Allowances (hairdo allowance and gym) are no longer being paid and no Christmas hampers are still being issued.”

Previous reports had also revealed that appointments were done through nepotism and not merit as no single position was advertised.

Manyaya added: “New qualified, experienced and ethical board for Zinara has been appointed.

” Zinara has been realigned to its statutory mandate.

“There has also been an introduction of a consequences management system – various employees were dismissed after disciplinary hearings.

“Also established an integrity ethics committee in conjunction with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission.

“A skills audit is underway. We have developed a performance measurement system.”-standard

ARV Deliveries On Door Steps

By A Correspondent- People living with HIV/AIDS will soon have anti retroviral (ARV) medication delivered to their homes under a programme meant to reduce cases of defaulting and enhance uptake.

The programme, which will initially be rolled out in rural communities before being progressively expanded to urban centres, has already had  successful trials in Makoni District, Manicaland Province.

During the two-year-long trials in Makoni, incidents of default among those initiated on anti retroviral therapy (ART) have been reduced from around 10 percent to almost zero.

National AIDS Council (NAC) chief executive officer Dr Bernard Madzima said preparations for the roll-out were advanced.”Under the Community Antiretroviral Treatment Care Facilitator (CATCF) programme, a health worker collects ARVs for a household or community and goes around distributing them to our patients,” he said.

“The clinics ensure that the clients do not go to the clinics but the ARVs are brought to the homesteads.

“This means they can easily pick up on defaulters.”The programme, he said, ensures that data about a particular area is easily sent to the district, province and national data centres, meaning people can quickly take action if there are challenges.

NAC plans to spread the programme countrywide.

“It, however, requires financial and technical resources,” he added.

“There is need to train the community health workers, engage staff at the clinics, procure medication and ensure the system works.

“This is the way we want to move, especially in view of Covid-19, where we want minimum interaction and also decongest clinics.”An estimated 1,3 million people are living with HIV/AIDS in Zimbabwe.

According to the 2020 Zimbabwe Population-based HIV Impact Assessment (ZIMPHIA) survey, 97 percent of HIV-positive people are on ART, while about 93 percent have a suppressed viral load.

NAC’s Makoni District AIDS coordinator Mr Spencer Banguza said the pilot was a huge success.

“We are covering seven facilities comprising six clinics and a hospital,” he said. “In terms of performance as a district, we have been doing quite well in terms of viral load suppression and ensuring that the clients take their ARVs every day and on time. “Our trained cadres assist clients with their refills, how to take their ARVs, the time and dates they should have their viral loads checked.”

He said the programme has assisted those who may not want to travel to a health facility for refills.

“The programme has seen a decrease in defaulters and suppressed viral load, hence it should be rolled out across the country.”-statemedia

Suicide? Byo Family Demands Answers

By A Correspondent- The family of a man who was found hanging from a tree in Woodlands, Bulawayo on Wednesday has disputed the results of the post-mortem revealing that he had committed suicide and is demanding a fresh autopsy.

According to the post-mortem report that was issued on Thursday, Jack Nyathi (45) who had been missing for 18 days died of asphyxia and hanging even as the family insists that he may have been killed.

The report put the date and time of death as between 28 May and 14 June.

When Sunday News spoke to the deceased’s brother, Mr Emmanuel Nyathi, he disputed the findings and said his family felt that his brother may have been murdered.

Mr Nyathi said his brother would be buried today, but the family was preparing to petition the State to allow them to exhume the body as soon as possible for another post-mortem.

“The post-mortem report stated that my brother died as a result of suicide and no foul play was suspected. However, when we went to the site where his body was found today (yesterday), we found traces of blood and an iron bar which we think may have been used to assault or torture my brother.

“We have no choice but to bury him tomorrow (today), but we are exploring the possibility of having his body exhumed as soon as possible and seek a second opinion from another pathologist as to the cause of death,” Mr Nyathi said.

According to Mr Nyathi, his brother went missing on the night of 28 May after he had called his boss, telling him that he was tied up and people were threatening to kill him.

The employer then called the police on the same night before accompanying the deceased’s brother to Bulawayo Central Police Station to report the matter.

“I received a call from my brother’s boss on the night of May 28 and he said Jack had called him at around 10 or 11pm that same night and told him that some people had tied him and threatened to kill him.

“We made a formal report with the police the following day. We tried to look for him for 18 days and even went through the same bush a few times. At one point we asked the police to use sniffer dogs to try and find him but this was not done until some men who were poaching sand in the area saw his body hanging from a tree.

“These people reported the matter at Hillside Police Station and also called me because one of them had heard that we were looking for Jack who was missing. I went to the police station and then accompanied them to the bushy area where we found my brother hanging,” Mr Nyathi explained.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed that no foul play was suspected and the official cause of death was suicide.

“We received reports that a body had been discovered hanging from a tree in a bushy area near the Woodlands Shopping Centre. According to the post-mortem report by the pathologist at United Bulawayo Hospitals, the deceased, Jack Nyathi died of asphyxia and hanging and we suspect no foul play. The body was found in a state of decomposition,” Insp Ncube said.

Insp Ncube also urged the public to seek help from family members, counsellors and churches before electing to take their own lives.-statemedia

Housemaid Jailed For Attempting To Kill Employer’s 2yr Old

By A Correspondent- A housemaid was jailed for three years on Wednesday after she was convicted of the attempted murder of her employer’s two-year-old daughter.

– ZimLive

Zanu PF Plunged Into Mourning

By A Correspondent- The ruling Zanu-PF in Matabeleland South has been plunged to mourning following the death of Evelyn Mpofu who was the vice-chair in the provincial Women’s League.

Mpofu, who passed on Friday was 38 years old. Zanu-PF Matabeleland South provincial chairperson Nqobizitha Ndlovu confirmed the death of Mpofu describing it as a heavy blow to the party.

“Mpofu just coughed twice and collapsed while walking with other colleagues at Habane Township in Esigodini. She was quickly rushed to Esigodini District Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

“She is one person who worked tirelessly for the party and I must say one thing I am grateful for is she kept the revolutionary party’s orientation until she passed on. I worked with her while we were both in the youth provincial leadership and in the National Executive. She had risen through the ranks to occupy the vice-chairperson post in the provincial Women’s League,” said Ndlovu.

Mpofu was born on 24 September 1984 at United Bulawayo Hospitals and did her early primary education at Reigate School in Bulawayo up to Grade Five before transferring to Mvuthu Primary School in Habane, Esigodini.

She did her secondary education at Mvuthu High School in the same area.

Mpofu became actively involved in politics in 1998. She then joined the National Youth Service at Border Gezi Training Camp in 2001 and graduated in the same year. Upon her graduation she was referred to Mbalabala School of Infantry for the instructor training (training of trainees).

In 2002 she was posted to Dayadaya Training Camp as drill instructor. She then moved to the Ministry of Youth as a youth officer in 2004.

She became a member of the National Executive of the Youth League in 2013 and became the Secretary for Information and Publicity as well as a Central Committee member up to 2018.

Mpofu was re-elected as the Deputy Secretary for Transport and Welfare in the National Executive of the Youth League until 2021 when she was elected into the Matabeleland South Provincial Women’s League executive as the vice-chair.

Zanu-PF Matabeleland South Provincial Youth chair, Moses Langa mourned the late provincial member and said:

“It is on a sad note that the province at large has lost one of the longest serving cadres in the Youth League who had recently graduated to the Women’s League. She helped the party from early 2000s and rose through the ranks up to national level as she was well dedicated. The province has really lost a hard-working cadre and well dedicated to the ruling party.”

Mpofu was part of the delegation that toured Russia in 2017 and Zimbabwe Senior Cadre Investigation tour in Zhaotong, China in February 2019. Mourners are gathered at House Number 410 Dark City, Habane Township in Esigodini.

“Moreblessing Ali Never Had An Affair With Killer”: Court Hears

By A Correspondent- The late Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) member Moreblessing Ali’s alleged killer Pius Mukandi alias Jamba wanted to flee the country after committing the heinous crime, a Harare magistrate’s court heard yesterday.

Jamba (31) appeared in court yesterday before magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

According to police investigations, after committing the crime, Mukandi fled to his mother’s home area in Hurungwe’s  Chidamoyo area.

Mukandi wanted to sell a grinding mill to raise transport money to Zambia or Mozambique, but was later arrested with the help of the community who got wind of his presence.

It also emerged from the investigating officer identified in court as A Dimimbo that Ali was not Mukandi’s girlfriend, and that it was the first time for Mukandi to see the deceased.

After Ali’s body was discovered on June 11, government officials described the murder as a crime of passion after it emerged that Mukandi was in the company of a cousin, Simba Chisango, who is said to be a well known Zanu-PF terror gang leader in Chitungwiza.

Police also issued a statement saying the murder was not politically motivated as the two were allegedly lovers.

Mukandi was remanded in custody to July 1, and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

The accused, who was not asked to plead, told the court that he needed a lawyer.

Allegations are that on May 24 this year around 10:30pm at Chibhanguza Night Club, Nyatsime, Beatrice, Ali was in the company of her dog and a friend, Kirina Mayironi .

Unprovoked, Mukandi told the deceased that her dog was disturbing his peace.

The deceased later went out of the nightclub, and was followed by Mayironi who saw her lying on the ground with the suspect dragging her.

Mukandi attacked Mayironi with a catapult, and she fled back into the nightclub.

Other patrons failed to save her as Mukandi pelted them with stones.

Prosecutors  alleged that Mukandi took the now deceased from the vicinity of  the night club to an unknown secluded place and struck her with an unknown object, before strangling her to death and cutting her body into three pieces.

Mukandi took the dismembered body parts to Plot 321 Dunnotar Farm in Beatrice, which belongs to his mother Laina Mukandi where he dumped them into a disused well before disappearing from the area.

On June 11, Laina Mukandi discovered the body of the now deceased after a strong stench emanated from the well.

She advised police, leading to the discovery of the dismembered body.

On June 14, a post-mortem was conducted on the remains of the now deceased at Parirenyatwa Hospital, Harare by a forensic pathologist identified in court papers as Dr Mayedo, who said Ali was already dead when her body was chopped into pieces.-standard

Former VP Mphoko Opens Up On Murky Platinum Deal

By A Correspondent- Former vice-president Phelekezela Mphoko has revealed how the army seized Zimbabwe’s biggest platinum reserves, saying he was threatened with dismissal by unnamed generals for questioning the deal while he was still the country’s ambassador to Russia.

Mphoko was in Moscow in 2005 when businessman Elexander Chepic paid him a visit, and expressed interest in a joint deal with the Zimbabwe Defence ministry to mine platinum at Darwendale.

In a statement published by CITE, an online content producer, the former VP who was removed from officer following the military coup against the late Robert Mugabe in 2017, gave a glimpse of how some of the government’s so-called mega deals are put together.

According to Mphoko, Chepic was referred to him by Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube.

Mphoko said he raised the red flag after he uncovered that the deal was murky, with the “investors” allegedly using the mine for speculative purposes amid indications that there was no capital for the project.

Army generals wanted him fired, only to be saved by Mugabe until he was posted to South Africa in 2010, Mphoko said.

To date, the US$6 billion platinum mining project has failed to take off and the Russian “investor” recently pulled out of the deal.

“They (Russian) requested that instead of Section 43, Section 40 which was in Darwendale where the platinum reserves were found on the surface and were worth more than US$6 billion dollars, should be allocated to them,” Mphoko narrated the events leading to the deal in his exposé.

“He (Chepic) emphasised that if Section 40 was allocated to them, by September of 2006, the company would be operational.

“The president (Mugabe) gave specific instructions that whoever was there, should be removed and Section 40 be given to the joint venture Russian company.

“This is how the Darwendale Platinum mine ended up being allocated to the Russian company.”

Trouble started when Mphoko approached the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation for the relations to be upgraded, the former VP said.

“In the meantime, some big Russian mining chief executives were enquiring with the embassy because a Russian company was selling shares in Zimbabwe, to raise capital for the project,” Mphoko wrote.

He added: “The ambassador decided to invite Mr Chepic for a meeting for an explanation following revelations that they were now using the concession for speculative purposes by selling shares to raise capital to invest in Zimbabwe.

“Mr Chepic arrogantly refused to meet the ambassador and informed him that he was dealing directly with their partners in Harare, the minister of Defence and the army.”

At the time, Mphoko said he had gathered information that there was a push to have him removed from foreign service.

“When Ambassador Mphoko insisted on meeting Chepic, there was a push from Harare that he should be withdrawn from Moscow.

“Vice-president Joseph Msika (late) was roped into the campaign and was assigned to convince President Mugabe to replace Ambassador Mphoko.

“The minister of Defence Dr Sydney Sekeramayi was putting pressure on Foreign Affairs minister Mumbengegwi, and the generals were also putting pressure on Joey Bimha the permanent secretary in the ministry of Foreign Affairs for the withdrawal of Mphoko from the Russian Federation.

“Ambassador Mphoko was then summoned to Harare as the pressure had reached an alarming level.

“President Mugabe was very clear as to why there were such calls for the withdrawal of Ambassador Mphoko coming specifically from the Ministry of Defence.

“The president had received certain facts about the said Russian company directly from the Russian prime minister’s office, which was then under Vladimir Putin.

“President Mugabe confronted Vice-President Msika, with those facts and dismissed the calls for Mphoko’s recall.”

According to a report by the Centre for Natural Resource Governance, Russia’s Machitskiy’s Vi Holding, which has a 50% stake, is reluctant to continue investing after years of delays.

Darwendale, if built, could potentially produce 860 000 ounces of platinum group metals a year and the deposit could be exploited for four decades, Great Dyke has said.

Output was initially expected to begin in 2021, but Russian links and a lack of capital aren’t the only things that have delayed the project.

Court Exposes ZRP Moreblessing Lies

By- The court has exposed the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s lies that Moreblessing Ali’s killer was her boyfriend.

The investigating officer, identified in court as A Dimimbo told the court that Ali was not Jamba’s girlfriend, and that it was the first time for Jamba to see the deceased.

Ali’s body was discovered on 11 June in a disused well, in the Nyatsime area in Beatrice.
Police issued a statement saying the murder was not politically motivated as the two were allegedly lovers.
Jamba was remanded in custody to 1 July and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

The court also revealed that Pius Mukandi alias Jamba wanted to flee the country after committing the crime.
Jamba reportedly fled to his mother’s home area in Hurungwe’s Chidamoyo area after committing the crime.
He wanted to sell a grinding mill to raise transport money to Zambia or Mozambique.
He was, however, arrested by the police on Thursday, with the help of the community who became aware of his presence in the area.

Pias Jamba Admits Killing Moreblessing Ali

By-Pius Jamba has admitted to killing CCC’s Moreblessing Ali activist.
He confessed when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi on Saturday.

He was remanded in custody to July 1.
Representing the state, Prosecutor Tapuwanashe Zvidzai told the court that Ali was murdered on the night of May 24. The court heard:
On 24 May 2022, at around 2220 hours, the accused person was at Chibhanguza Night Club, Nyatsime, Beatrice where the now deceased Moreblessing Ali was in the company of Kirina Mayironi.
The now-deceased was also accompanied by her brown dog. The accused was armed with a catapult.
Without being provoked, the accused then alleged that the now-deceased’s dog was disturbing him of free movement and it was also responsible for the loss of his money.
Zvidzai added:
1). Ali and her friend Mayironi then left Chibhanguza Night Club and were about to head home when Mukandi dragged Ali.
2). Mayironi attempted to save Ali leading to Mukandi striking her with a stone propelled by a catapult and hitting her chin leaving an open wound.
3). Mayironi fled back into the Nightclub where other revellers rushed out to investigate what was happening. Jamba shoot stones from the catapult and threw bricks directed at the nightclub, and nobody could apprehend him or rescue Ali.

  1. Jamba took Ali from the vicinity of Chibhanguza Night Club to an unknown secluded place where he struck her using an unknown instrument. He also strangled her using her trousers thereby causing her death.
5). Jamba then used an unknown instrument to cut Ali’s body into three pieces consisting of the upper torso and two legs.
6). He then took the mutilated body parts to Plot 321 Dunnotar Farm, Beatrice belonging to his mother Laina Mumukandi where he dumped them into a disused well.
7). Thereafter the accused person went on the run.
Ali’s body was discovered on 11 June 2022 by Mukandi’s mother after a strong stench emanated from the disused well.
She advised police leading to the recovery of the now deceased’s dismembered body.

However, postmortem conducted on 14 June 2022 at Parirenyatwa Hospital, Harare by Forensic Pathologist Doctor Mayedo could not establish how Ali died.
However, the doctor concluded that the death might have been caused by strangulation. He further indicated that the Ali was chopped after she was already dead.
Jamba was arrested on 16 June 2022, while on the run in Chidamoyo, Hurungwe, Mashonaland West Province.
He then voluntarily made indications to police showing them how he kidnapped, assaulted and killed Ali.

He also showed them the scene where he dismembered her body before dumping it.
Jamba also led police to the recovery of a knife he allegedly used to cut Ali’s body.
He also showed the police Ali’s Huawei Honor cell phone, brown jacket, black trousers, pair of shoes and pants.
All these will be produced as evidence.

120 Mugabe Workers Lose Jobs

By-At least 120 people working at Gushungo Dairy Estates have lost their jobs after former first lady Grace Mugabe closed the business entity.

Grace sold about 700 dairy cows worth about US$1.4 million to a prominent butcher, rendering about all the workers at Gushungo Dairy jobless.

The Independent reports that the company had a US$20 million debt, which forced the entity to auction some of its equipment to pay creditors.

The estate, formerly known as Foyle Farm before the property was parcelled to the Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (ARDA) by the then Agriculture ministry, measures 1 200 hectares.
It was later taken by the late former president Robert Mugabe who set up a state-of-the-art dairy plant in Mazowe — about 40km north of Harare. Over 80 newly resettled farmers in Mazowe were forcibly removed to pave way for Mugabe’s business venture.

Gushungo Dairy equipment was imported from South Africa for about US$15 million at a time when Mugabe was ruling Zimbabwe. The company Alpha Omega Dairy (Pvt) Ltd under the Gushungo Estates produced milk, yoghurt, cheese and ice cream.
Sources told the Zimbabwe Independent this week that Grace Mugabe failed to run the business resulting in the sale of 700 dairy cows to a local butcher.
At market value, each dairy cow costs around US$$2 000, but the butcher could have bought them at a lesser price as the cattle were meant for beef. Said the anonymous source:
Gushungo Dairy is closed. Workers have been sent home; about 120 of them. Just a few were left doing menial jobs.
According to the Independent, the dairy equipment is lying idle as a millionaire businessman who is renting the farm has not yet started producing.
Apart from the collapsed Gushungo Dairy, a 1 000 pig and 6 000 chicken project at Mugabe’s rural Kutamba village home, suffered a natural death as Grace neglected the projects.

Mugabe left a huge business portfolio mainly in farming with 21 farms which were acquired when his government touted the one-man-one-farm land policy.
Signs of financial problems started showing in May 2019 after Gushungo Dairy Farm auctioned five combine harvesters, five Toyota Hilux pick-up trucks and other farm equipment. Mugabe later died on September 6, 2019.

City Woman Accuses Hubby Of Sexually Abusing Her In Front Of Children

A city woman has accused her husband of sexually abusing her in front of their minor children.

Gladys Moyo claims her husband, Jim Muchatuta, has the habit of demanding sex in presence of their kids.

She made the startling revelations at the Harare Civil Court where she applied for a protection order.

Gladys cited sexual and verbal abuse at the hands of Jim.

“It’s so painful how Jim treats me in front of our four-year-old child. I have heard stories of men abusing their spouses but in my case it is getting worse with each passing day.

“Whenever I tell him that I don’t feel like having sex with him, he then forces me to have sexual intercourse in the presence of our children.

“After applying for this protection order, he threatened to kill me,” she said.

In response, Jim denied the allegations.

He claimed he was a peace-loving husband who does not have a history of violence.

“I am the one who has been maintaining peace and I even forgave her when she infected me with an STI.

“l never abused or confronted her over the issue,” he said.

Presiding magistrate, Sharon Mashavire, granted the protection order in Gladys’ favour.

Mnangagwa’s POLAD, An Insignificant Bunch Who Could Not Be Picked By Afrobarometer Survey

The Mass Public Opinion Institute (MPOI) on Wednesday released the Afrobarometer round nine survey on Zimbabwe.

The survey shows the incipient decline of the ruling Zanu-PF’s leader, Emmerson Mnangagwa, and the rise of Nelson Chamisa the leader of opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).

If presidential elections were to be held at this juncture, the Zanu-PF leader would lose to the CCC leader.

The survey signals that 33% of respondents would vote for Chamisa against 30% for Mnangagwa.

This is only the second time that the Afrobarometer survey has shown an opposition candidate leading in Zimbabwe.

The first time was in 2009 when former Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) leader Morgan Tsvangirai led over the late Zanu-PF leader Robert Mugabe.

That was two weeks after the consummation of the Government of National Unity (GNU) and euphoria was high.

There is a systematic pattern in the decline of Mnangagwa’s vote.

In 2017, when he took over as President in a coup, at least 38% of surveyed citizens expressed intentions to vote for him and five years later this has dramatically gone down to 30%.

On the other end, Chamisa’s vote has been growing exponentially.

In 2017, only 16% freely expressed intentions to vote for him but this has gone up to 33% in 2022.

Chamisa has also taken over the lead in the late Mugabe’s home province of Mashonaland West and Tsvangirai’s home province of Manicaland. Chamisa is leading by 38% to Mnangagwa’s 33% in Mashonaland West.

In Manicaland, it is blood on the floor for Mnangagwa as he is trailing Chamisa by 58% to a mere 18%. Both provinces are dominated by rural constituencies considered to be the ruling party strongholds.

However, a significant number of respondents, 27%, refused to reveal their preference. This is not surprising in a repressive environment.

A corpus of qualitative studies shows that in such authoritarian contexts, opposition supporters are more likely to fear expressing their political affiliation compared to ruling party members.

Nevertheless, part of the 27% can still swing the vote for Mnangagwa through programmatic delivery dividends in the next 12 months, the margin of terror (intimidation and violence) and or margin of error (through manipulating votes).

The voters can also choose to vote for Chamisa through the margin of influence and marginal effect.

There can also be the role of unforeseen events that can tilt the vote for example, death, accident, scandals et cetera.

Even the social contract between Mnangagwa and the citizens is also weakening.

The trust for the President has gone down from 64% in 2017 to a mere 51% in 2022.

On the other end, only 41% of respondents approved the President’s current performance in office.

Even the trust for the ruling Zanu-PF was at 44% compared to 48% for the opposition.

The people are not happy about economic mismanagement, looting of natural resources like land and minerals, soaring prices of basic goods, the rise of domestic and gender-based violence, corruption and deteriorating infrastructure.

Within Zanu-PF, there are 32% who do not believe that citizens have a voice in natural resource extraction.

This is a portent for Zanu-PF supporters voting for another party as a way to expressdisgruntlement.

However, Zimbabwe seems incapable of running a democratic and legitimate election. More than a third of respondents (36%) do not believe that an election will be able to change the leaders who are not performing well.

Only 50% feel completely free to choose whom to vote for.

In these circumstances, without the needed political and democratic reforms, elections can be a mere ritual and fail to express the people’s will.

The survey is not all rosy for CCC. The electoral hype about generation consensus is still to yield the much-needed vote for the opposition.

Younger respondents (54%) are far less likely to be registered as voters compared to their elders.

Geographically, the voter registration is also low in Bulawayo, Matabeleland North and South.

One hopes a special voter registration drive can happen alongside the ongoing government mobile blitz for civil registration.

Chamisa is also still fairing less than Mnangagwa in most rural-dominated provinces like Mashonaland East, Masvingo, Midlands and Mashonaland Central which remains an Achilles heel.

In Masvingo, voter registration among respondents was as low as 42%.

Yet turning the tide in Masvingo, as in Manicaland, will make it easier for Chamisa to consolidate the lead.

Now a brief synopsis on how the political parties might react to Chamisa’s current lead.

For Zanu-PF, this will possibly worsen intra-party contradictions within the party.

New questions will be raised on whether Mnangagwa is the right man to lead Zanu-PF in the 2023 election.

This will worsen divisions and suspicions between Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga leader-follower groups and Mnangagwa’s leader-follower groups. Second, the Zanu-PF elite and their military allies might regroup to defend the “revolution”.

This will mean a rise in authoritarianism to eliminate either ephemerally or collectively-organised dissent ahead of 2023.

A wounded Zanu-PF is likely to increase the securitisation of party and State institutions, intensify efforts to infiltrate and decimate the CCC from the political map, target civil society activists and ensure their lives are “solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short.”

This possibility calls for continuous societal mobilisation against the chicanery.

Given that citizens risk being at the mercy of the bullet, this will require regional, continental and internationalsupport.

For CCC, we are most likely going to see Chamisa consolidating his authority, vision and ideas on the party.

Those who doubted his strategies will be forced to retreat by the power of science, at least for now.

Second, Chamisa’s political stature will continue to grow nationally and he will remain the centre of any convergence politics.

Third, the survey gives Chamisa a psychological edge over the voter and those on the line.

In this regard, it gives Chamisa more ammunition to persuade a doubting Thomas or a Benjamin the donkey.

Nevertheless, Chamisa will still confront questions from his former MDC-T structures (from the branch to the top) and from other critical stakeholders on whether it is about him or about them too.

Fourth, it places an onerous political reality at the doorstep of CCC that should take them back to the political drawing board.

As the survey signals, Chamisa might win the presidential vote but he also must stop Zanu-PF getting the two thirds majority in Parliament it currently enjoys because in such a circumstance, it will be a herculean task for Chamisa to govern and deliver to the people not happy with the status quo.

For other opposition political parties, whether well-meaning or not, the survey shows that Zimbabwe remains a two-horse race.

However, other opposition political party leaders might continue to hold on to political straws.

Their first reaction is most likely to make reference to the 27% of respondents who refused to divulge their voting intentions.

To them, this can signify the possibility of a third way. In my view, this is a self-soothing political position. Zimbabwe for now, will remain a two-horse race between CCC and Zanu-PF.

A third way can only emerge once Zanu-PF is dislodged from power.

This is because Zanu-PF will not survive a day without State power given the conflation of the State and the party from the centre to the periphery.

So, the smaller opposition parties are likely to suffer defections to either CCC or Zanu-PF ahead of the 2023 general election.

Lord Oates Exerts Pressure On International Community To Resolve Zim Crisis

Tinashe Sambiri|A member of the British House of Lords has urged the international community to act on the political crisis in Zimbabwe.

On Friday Lord Jonathan Oates denounced the arrest and persecution of perceived government opponents in Zimbabwe.

Hon Job Sikhala and Hon Job Sikhala were arrested for assisting Moreblessing Ali’s family.

ARTUZ leader Obert Masaraure was arrested for a trumped up murder charge.

“The international community should act on the escalating political violence in Zimbabwe and demand that

end the violence and protect the public.

All parties should commit themselves to peace and to upholding the constitution,” Lord Oates said.

Masaraure Is Innocent

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC Namibia has pointed out that the persecution of ARTUZ leader Obert Masaraure is a deliberate ploy by Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration to silence suffering teachers.

In a statement, CCC Namibia called for the immediate release of Masaraure:

Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia demands justice to the victim of persecution by prosecution President Obert Masaraure who is illegally imprisoned on trumped up weird murder charges.

We are quite aware that the unconstitutional arrest of labour rights and human rights defender Obert Masaraure is an attempt by the clueless regime to silence vibrant critics of ZANUPF ahead of 2023 harmonised elections.

Citizens in Namibia urge all civil servants especially in the teaching fraternity to unite and amplify their revolutionary voices against slave wages.

They preferred a wild murder charge on an innocent man, an organic labour unionist who speaks on behalf of the poverty-stricken and malnourished masses in the education sector. Change champions are cognisant of the fact that when our late comrade Roy Issa fell from the 7th floor at Jameson Hotel in 2016, President Obert Masaraure was at home with his family. He never witnessed the sad incident and he was never involved in the tragedy in question.

Moreover, it is also imperative to condemn the ruthless treatment of the labour unionist at Harare Central Police Station.

We saw heavy police presence denying him access to the family members and Artuz comrades to enter the police station who had come in solidarity with Obert Masaraure. This must be resisted with equal measure, the government should learn to consider the genuine salary grievances from the suffering teachers.

It is a public secret that a family of six now need Zimbabwe dollar $133 171 to survive when the teachers are earning a meagre salary ranging from $20 000 to $30 000. These unsalted peanuts are unimaginable!

Our human rights defender was denied his right to food which is quite perturbing in a purported independent and democratic country. We demand justice to Obert Masaraure who is fighting for a living wage.

This attempt to wrongfully jail the labour unionist should not be allowed, we know that his illegal arrest is an attempt to put teachers on mute. Educators are simply demanding the pre-October 2018 living wage of US$540, is it a crime to demand restoration? Is it a unconstitutional to be incapacitated? Teachers must peacefully rise up in solidarity with their radical leadership. Obert Masaraure is not a murderer, his crime is his bravery to confront the suicidal policies in the education sector. He is in jail because he recently won the Frontline Human Rights Defenders Award.

Furthermore, ZANUPF’S attempt to silence NGOs and labour unions in Zimbabwe must face stiff resistance from the conscious citizenry.

Citizens should unite against gross misgovernance and unprecedented corruption. Teachers and the entire civil service need the pragmatic leadership of President Obert Masaraure inorder to win the struggle for a living wage. They must peacefully demand the immediate release of their astute leadership. Citizens Coalition For Change Namibia joins the rest of the educators and human rights defenders in demanding justice to the jailed Artuz President Obert Masaraure, CCC Vice Chairperson Hon Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala, Hon Godfrey Sithole and all prisoners of conscience.

Solidarity is a core value in social democracy. We should all pent up our outrage demanding the immediate release of human rights defenders.

Pharaohs Coach Sacked

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has sacked national team coach Ehab Galal after taking charge of just three games.

The EFA appointed Galal on 25 April after they opted not to renew the deal with Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz, whose contract expired after the Pharaohs’ failure in the World Cup qualifiers.

The former defender took charge of his first game against Guinea in the opening game of the AFCON qualifiers. He managed to squeeze a 1-0 victory, thanks to Mostafa Mohamed’s late winner.

The Pharaohs then fell to a humiliating 2-0 defeat to Ethiopia in Malawi a few days later.

The Egyptian gaffer suffered a second straight defeat in a friendly match versus South Korea in Seoul, this time with the result of 4-1.

The unconvincing run forced the EFA to meet on Thursday afternoon and decided to fire the coach.

“We will hire a foreign manager with a reputable CV,” EFA board member Hazem Emam said on Thursday, as cited by KingFut website.

“We were offered several huge resumes. The Egyptian national team is very big.

“We will also hire a foreign technical director for the Olympic national team.”- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

ED Linked Dealer Chews Gold Incentives

By A Correspondent- Government’s Gold Incentives Scheme (GIS) has come under scrutiny amid indications it is largely benefitting politically connected persons, mainly President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s close ally Pedzisayi “Scott” Sakupwanya – a Zanu-PF councillor – and his Better Brands Jewellery (BBJ) company which pocked US$460 million in revenues last year at the expense of artisanal and small-scale miners.

While Sakupwanya is minting money through gold, artisanal and small-scale miners are struggling to survive. They say they are not reaping the rewards of the government’s much-hyped gold incentives.

Gold is central to Zimbabwe’s economic fortunes and politics. Those who know the sector’s ins and outs – its labyrinth of structures and dynamics – say whoever controls that industry runs the country.

It is not just a source of livelihood for thousands, but also a feeding trough for the politically connected and a centre of crony political patronage for Zanu-PF and its shadowy economic networks.

The incentive scheme, which was introduced early last year to boost gold deliveries to Zimbabwe’s sole authorised gold buyer, Fidelity Printers and Refiners (FPR), has left artisanal and small-scale operators at the mercy of big gold buyers who are making a killing at their expense.

This comes against reports that Zimbabwe continues to lose US$100 million a month through gold smuggling.

Development experts say if the country was well-run and managed, the abundant gold alone could form the basis of an economic rise, while its valued-added chains of production and cross-chain activities could become a catalyst for progress.

City states like Singapore and other Asian Tigers became economic giants without the natural resources that African countries like Zimbabwe are endowed with. They only had vision, leadership and development plans.

Last year, Zanu-PF councillor Sakupwanya’s Better Brands Jewellery pocketed US$460 million after delivering more than seven tonnes of gold to Fidelity, a move that saw him being named the Best Gold Buyer of the Year at the recently held mining industry awards at State House in Harare.

Sakupwanya, who is also chairperson of the National Gold Buyers’ Association, an affiliate of the controversial Henrietta Rushwaya-led Zimbabwe Miners’ Federation, has close links with Mnangagwa and his children, as well as other politically connected elites.

Rushwaya, who was arrested in October 2020 trying to smuggle 6kg of gold to Dubai, is related to Mnangagwa and is a major dealer in the gold business.

A delivery of 20kg of gold within a period of 30 days is eligible for a 5% incentive, a tonne 7% and one to three tonnes 9%.

According to Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor John Mangudya, Fidelity received a total of 29 629.61 tonnes of gold, 18 470 tonnes of which came from small-scale miners.

“A total of 29 629.61kg of gold was delivered to Fidelity Gold Refinery in 2021. Large gold producers delivered 11 159kg, whilst small-scale producers contributed 18 470kg,” Mangudya said.

“Small and large gold producers have delivered a total of 29 629,61kg of gold to Fidelity Gold Refinery (FGR) in 2021, a 55,5% increase from the 19 052,65kg delivered in 2020.”

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has hailed the GIS introduced by the government for increasing the precious mineral’s output and deliveries by 55.5% after recent years of successive decline in production. Small-scale miners also maintained the lead in production ahead of large producers.

However, a survey by The NewsHawks revealed artisanal and small-scale miners, who constitute a bigger percentage of Zimbabwe’s current gold deliveries, are receiving between one to 1.5% from the current gold incentives, with some getting nothing at all.

“We just hear that gold buyers are given an extra 5% when they deliver our gold to Fidelity. No one that I know is given that extra money after our gold is sold. We are usually given beer and permission to mine peacefully without hinderances from other mining gangs that control the claims as incentives,” Bruce Chimbwanda, an artisanal miner based in Mazowe, said.

In Zimbabwe, the majority of the working population can be found in the informal sector. And in mineral-rich areas of the country, people are continuously risking their lives digging underground in search of gold, hoping to make enough money to take them out of poverty.

However, the reality is different. While the politically connected like Sakupwanya make millions, artisanal and small-scale miners are wallowing in poverty amid violence in the volatile sector.

Said another artisanal miner, Tonderai Mutasa: “As artisanal and small-scale miners, it’s our wish to become registered and use state-of-the-art equipment that does not put our lives at risk. But the money we are getting from the gold buyers does not enable us to do so. My colleagues and I get an extra something from the gold buyers ‘who are our bosses’ in the literal sense and we rejoice. However, the extras we get are nothing compared to the huge amounts of money that we hear they are getting from Fidelity.”

Amid an economic meltdown, a surge of attacks linked to Zimbabwe’s growing artisanal mining sector has killed hundreds of poor miners.

Gold Miners’ Association of Zimbabwe chief executive Irvin Chinyenze said the GIS is mostly benefitting gold-buying agents, considering that most small-scale miners are not able to single-handedly produce 20kgs of gold per month as per the incentive’s requirement.

“The 5% incentive is not in our view for small-scale miners if you consider that it’s given for a minimum delivery of 20kgs per month. That threshold is high. So, in essence the major beneficiaries of that are not so much the miners but the buying agents and of course a few who might have that kind of capacity,” Chinyenze said.

“The reason why that incentive is there is to try and buttress delivery and through an upward review of the price indirectly in the form of a royalty. If we have a pricing regime that is consistent with what’s obtaining on the world market, we will not need any more incentives beyond that”.

But Sakupwanya, who has emerged as one of the biggest beneficiaries of the incentive, defended the policy.

“The government has availed incentives that have made us attractive to gold miners who now prefer to sell the gold to us, instead of selling it to smugglers,” he said.

Sakupwanya declined to comment on charges that small-scale miners were not benefitting from the scheme as much as they should.

Current policy approaches, including the criminalisation of artisanal gold mining by the Zimbabwean authorities, have failed to address effectively the persistent challenges such as land rights conflict, violence, environmental degradation and smuggling.

Mining experts say if the costs of imperfect regulations are to be mitigated, new approaches are required, including improved regulations and interventions to formalise the sector. It is important, they say, that the conflict-ridden relationship between artisanal and small-scale miners and large-scale commercial miners be transformed into an inclusive stakeholder arrangement framed by mutual interests and co-operation.

Gold is central to Mnangagwa’s economic revival plans. In October 2019, Mnangagwa and Mines minister Winston Chitando announced plans to expand the government’s gold revenue to US$4 billion per year by 2023, an ambitious fourfold increase in four years.

The government has been saying it has a target of a US$12 billion mining sector economy by 2023. Mining contributes about 2.6% of Zimbabwe’s rebased US$25.8 billion economy.

The gold sector does not consist exclusively, or even mostly, of big business.

Artisanal miners – poverty-stricken men and women who toil on their own or in small groups using little or no machinery – and small-scale mining, which involves slightly larger operations with some mechanisation, produce the majority of Zimbabwe’s gold.

In 2019, artisanal and small-scale miners combined were responsible for 63% of reported gold production, although it is unclear whether artisanal or small-scale mining is the bigger contributor of the two.

Amid the collapsing economy, an estimated 1.5 million people have turned to artisanal mining as a safety net. This trend has grown in the post-Covid-19 era which has brought compounded hardship amid renewed economic implosion, currency and exchange volatility and inflation.

The Late Retired Major General Bhebhe Was A God Fearing Man

By A Correspondent- National hero Major-General (Retired) Sydney Bhebhe will be remembered for his contribution to the liberation struggle, standing firm for justice and defending Zimbabwe’s interests, Commander Defence Forces, General Phillip Valerio Sibanda has said.

He made the remarks while leading the funeral parade of Major General (Rtd) Bhebhe at the Charles Gumbo Barracks in Harare yesterday.

Other colleagues and relatives described the national hero as a God- fearing soldier. A service will be held in his honour at the Gospel of God Church on Sunday, where he was an evangelist. He will be buried at the National Heroes Acre on Monday.

Major-General (Rtd) Bhebhe was born to clergy parents, and was married to a cleric.

“As we bid you farewell to you Sydney, we will remember you for your immense contribution to the liberation struggle, standing firm for justice and defending Zimbabwe’s interests,” said General Sibanda.

“Thank you for your contribution to our liberation and development of our country after independence.

“As we pay our last respects to Major-General Bhebhe, we must not forget the sacrifices that he and other heroes and heroines made for us to be free today.

“It remains a challenge to us all to defend the values that they stood and fought for. We must always remember that to be who we are today it is because somebody shed their sweat or blood as Major General (Rtd) Bhebhe and many others did.

“Let us never take these sacrifices for granted,” said General Sibanda.

Zimbabwe Defence Forces Senior Chaplain General, Colonel, Reverend Ashani Bwanali described his former boss as a God-fearing soldier.

Colonel Bwanali said testimonies of Major-General (Rtd) Bhebhe from colleagues, church members and family are indicative of his strong belief in the Lord.

“Major General Sydney Bhebhe was very humble. What struck me most about his personality is besides his military prowess and accolades, he also had a very strong passion for God.

“He was an evangelist at his church, and he was brought up in a family of ministers. His wife is also an accomplished minister, to us it’s a plus to the kingdom of God. Besides what we know of him from being in the military, we also appreciate the great work he did for the Lord Jesus Christ.

“We want to encourage many more to keep on seeking the presence of the Lord.

“These are the men that we look up to. generals who fear the Lord, a nation that fears the Lord, and so we say go well soldier of the cross,” said Colonel Bwanali.

Major General Emmanuel Matatu said his former colleague was an astute administrator with a logical mind. Sydney Bhebhe was a hard worker, he had his own intellect, most of his things were well thought out and he was a good researcher.

“He would read and whatever he did, it was very logical and well thought through. I enjoyed working with him, he was a good team player.

“We worked together at army headquarters during the formative years of the Zimbabwe National Army.

“He was very strong in the area of administration. He was an excellent administrator and basically he grew up in the administration field,” said Major General Matatu.

Miss Moreblessing Bhebhe, the daughter of the national hero, described her father as a loving and caring man.

“My father was a gentle and caring man, he is the most generous man I have ever met, he was not selective. Whoever came to him, my dad was willing to offer a hand of support, a hand of help.

“He was empathetic and compassionate about people and those are the most important lessons that I have learnt from him.”

Mr Joseph Ngoma, uncle to the Major General (Rtd) Bhebhe said his nephew had strong Christian values, and his death is a big loss to the family.

“He was a father, a son and someone who was a team player and willing to work with others for the good of the family. “He was very loving, humble and was the pillar of the family.

“He had Christian values of goodness, kindness. He had love for peace, and would always counsel families for peace to prevail all the times,” said Mr Ngoma.-statemedia

“Dear Honorable Temba Mliswa”

By Kennedy Kaitano- Thank you for your straight talk on various political matters. I enjoyed your video interview with Blessed Mhlanga recently in which you pointed out that as the first citizen responsible for cabinet decisions, President Mnangagwa should be reviewing his team to ensure that they are working for the people, so he is responsible for all the country’s misfortunes.

President Mnangagwa has made some plausible statements in the past, one example being his statements while addressing Zimbabweans living in the United States of America on the sidelines of the United Nations General Conference in 2018, that the country would prepare to allow citizens living in the diaspora to vote, with the possibility of them voting in 2023.

While the world is impatiently waiting to get updates on President Mnangagwa’s diaspora vote promise, we have heard how Zanu PF officials, including Zanu PF parliamentarians, have attacked Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda for suggesting amendments to the electoral laws to ensure Zimbabweans in the Diaspora can vote.

Most surprisingly, sources in Zanu PF have told the media that Advocate Mudenda was barred from attending a Zanu PF Politburo meeting over his position on the Diaspora vote.

From my understanding, the Zanu PF President is part of the Politburo, and it is surprising how he failed to protect Advocate Mudenda who shares similar views with him regarding the diaspora vote, if the world is to believe in President Mnangagwa’s own statement regarding the need for the diaspora vote.

Is this another example of President Mnangagwa dancing to the whims of inappropriate behavior by his officials? Or is he merely grandstanding to please the international community when he makes these statements? Zimbabweans in the diaspora’s right to vote need to be granted.

Honorable Mliswa, as a Parliamentarian, is there anything you can do, working with other positive-minded parliamentarians across the political divide to do the right thing to ensure that not only the President’s promise is fulfilled but also to enable citizens of Zimbabwe living in the diaspora get their birthright to vote.

We look up to the positive-minded legislators to deliver in this regard. Can positive-minded parliamentarians across the political divide team up and come up with a Private Member’s Bill? As a knowledgeable legislator, Honorable Mliswa, you are likely to know the processes involved in these things, so please do what it takes from your perspective to ensure this is achieved.

Zanu PF legislators who come across this message must also have discussions among themselves to find ways of convincing their wayward colleagues who go against the President’s wishes to grant citizens living abroad the right to vote. Those citizens contribute immensely to the economy as has been acknowledged by many.

Will 11 SADC Leaders Ask Rwanda CHOGM 2022 To Follow Them And Lower Election Standard To Readmit Zimbabwe

By Patrick Guramatunhu- Rwanda is hosting the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2022 next week, 20 to 25 June 2022. President Mnangagwa has, no doubt, been lobbying hard for Zimbabwe to be re-admitted to the Commonwealth.

The regime is notorious for spending millions of dollars on PR firms to spruce up its image even when country’s education and health care have collapsed for lack of funds.

Zimbabwe’s readmission application was rejected following the country’s failure to hold free, fair and credible elections in 2018. The Commonwealth Election Observer Team report, like EU and many reports, gave detailed recommendation on what Zimbabwe should do to ensure future elections are free and fair.

Zanu PF has not implemented even one token reform since the rigged 2018 elections. The regime has stubbornly resisted all pressure to produce even something as basic as a verified voters’ roll.

Zanu PF is blatantly rigging the 2023 elections!

If this 2022 Rwanda CHOGM should decide to readmit Zimbabwe back into the Commonwealth it would be because the delegates had given up on Zimbabwe ever implementing the democratic reforms necessary for free, fair and credible elections. And so Zimbabwe’s elections will be measured against a one-foot long yard stick as contrast to the international accept three-foot long stick! This is exactly what SADC leaders have done!

Of 19 African countries in the Commonwealth, 11 of them are also in the SADC regional grouping. Wearing their Commonwealth cap, the 11 countries endorsed the Commonwealth Election Observer team’s report led by Ghana’s former president John Dramani Mahama.

“We note that important gains were made in these elections. However, the acute bias of the state media in favour of the governing party, persistent allegations of intimidation reported to the group, and the unfair use of incumbency privileges tilted the playing field in favour of the governing party (Zanu-PF),” stated the Mahama report.

“The post-election violence, which resulted in fatalities, and the behaviour of security forces marred this phase of elections. For these reasons, we are unable to endorse all aspects of the process as credible, inclusive, and peaceful.”

However, when the 11 were wearing their SADC caps, they endorsed the SADC team that concluded that the same election process was “substantially free, fair and credible!” This was only possible because SADC was judging the Zimbabwe elections against a lower standard to that the Commonwealth team was using.

Of course, President Mnangagwa was eternally grateful to SADC leaders for their political endorsement and legitimacy.

The only time, in 2008, when SADC leaders joined the rest of the international community and condemned Zimbabwe’s flawed and illegal elections; Zanu PF lost political legitimacy and was forced to agree on the need to implement a raft of democratic reforms.  A Government of National Unity (GNU) was tasked to implement the reforms.

Sadly, not even one reform was implemented in five years of the GNU. Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC, who were entrusted to implement the reforms turned out to be corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent. SADC leaders had nagged MDC to implement the reforms but to no avail.

SADC leaders had made one last minute bid to have Zimbabwe’s 2013 elections postponed until reforms were implemented. They told Tsvangirai and company, to their faces, “If you take part in next month’s elections, you will lose. The elections are done!”

As we know MDC leaders, once again, paid no heed and participated in the elections. Zanu PF blatantly rigged the elections and SADC leaders, no doubt in disgruntled despair at MDC’s betrayal, turned a blind eye to the rigging and endorsed the process as “substantially free, fair and credible” giving Zanu PF legitimacy.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is banking on the 11 SADC nations to pressure CHOGM measure Zimbabwe’s adherence to democratic values using a one-foot long yard-stick and not the universally accepted three-foot long yard-stick because Zimbabwe has failed to implement even one reform even when the country had the golden opportunity to do so!

It would be very foolish, to say the least, for 2022 Rwanda CHOGM to readmit Zimbabwe into the Commonwealth for three reasons:

  1. Lowering the democratic standards that have served the Commonwealth nations well will start a race to the bottom because many leaders will want the same compromised standards applied to them too. Many Commonwealth countries, notably Rwanda and Uganda, have dictators who have failed to hold free, fair and credible elections. Readmit Zimbabwe and there will be a lot more dictators in the Commonwealth.
  • There are many Zimbabweans who readily accept that the 2008 to 2013 GNU was a golden opportunity for Zimbabwe to implement the democratic reforms and they condemn the MDC leaders for selling out. The Zimbabweans who continue to support MDC/CCC’s idiotic folly of “winning rigged elections” do so out of ignorance and/or desperation. Every thinking Zimbabwean accepts it is insane to participate in flawed elections out of greed for the few gravy train seats offered as bait only to give Zanu PF legitimacy. They welcome another opportunity to implement the reforms and finally get the nation out of this hell-hole.
  • If Zimbabwe was readmitted, the Commonwealth will render the organisation’s own democratic standards and values irrelevant and embolden Zanu PF to rig the 2023 and future elections. 2022 Rwanda CHOGM will have condemned Zimbabwe to the corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship aided by the entourage of corrupt incompetent and utterly useless opposition. Zimbabwe must not be readmitted to the Commonwealth until it implements the democratic reforms and uphold the internationally recognised democratic standards and values. That, surely, is not too much to ask!

Harare City Council Warns Home Seekers Against Bogus Agents

By A Correspondent- Harare City Council has advised home seekers to be alert as some bogus agents are fraudulently selling residential stands in the name of the local authority.

In a statement, the city fathers said they had received several reports of land sales in Highlands, Bloomingdale, Westlea, Glaudina and Belvedere townships by the bogus agents. Reads the statement:

NOTICE TO ALL HOME SEEKERS

We would like to advise all home seekers that we are not selling any residential stands in Harare and we did not contract any agents to sell land on our behalf.

Council has received several reports of land sales in Highlands, Bloomingdale, Westlea, Glaudina and Belvedere townships by bogus agents who are purporting to be working in conjunction with the City.

The city does not have such agreements in place with any person or agent hence any homes seeker dealing with the bogus agents risk losing their hard-earned cash.

Over the years, local authorities around the country demolished hundreds of houses accusing owners of erecting their structures on undesignated sites or acquiring the land illegally.

SA NGO Turns To Court Over ZEP

By A Correspondent- A South African civic group has filed an application challenging that country’s Home Affairs minister Aaron Motsoaledi’s decision to terminate permits for Zimbabwean immigrants in the neighbouring country.

According to media reports, the Helen Suzman Foundation (HSF) wants the Zimbabwe Exemption Permits (ZEPs) extended beyond December 31, 2022.

The permits expired on 31 December 31, 2021, but permit holders were given a 12-month grace period to regularise their stay or face deportation.

“It is not the position of HSF that those migrants who are in South Africa unlawfully should not be entitled to remain, nor even that the ZEP must continue in perpetuity,” the foundation said.

Rather, our position is that those who have scrupulously observed South Africa’s laws in order to live and work here, under the ZEP, cannot have such permits terminated without fair process, good reason and a meaningful opportunity to regularise their status. It is what our constitutional order demands.”

The foundation added: “This special dispensation regime has offered legal protection to approximately 178 000 Zimbabwean nationals, allowing them to live, work and study in South Africa. It has prevailed for well over a decade, meaning that permit holders have built lives, families and careers here, and contributed to South Africa and its
economy.

“They will be put to a desperate choice: to remain in South Africa as undocumented migrants with all the vulnerability that attaches to such status or return to a Zimbabwe that, to all intents and purposes, is unchanged from the country they fled.

“There are thousands of children, who have been born in South Africa to ZEP holders during this time, who have never even visited their parents’ country of origin.”-newsday

System to Get Trusted Tradespersons: Jacob Mutisi

By Jacob Mutisi | We are all familiar with that sinking feeling you get when you have a burst pipe, jammed door lock, blocked toilet, collapsed roof or simply something goes wrong in your house and needs fixing. There is always this uneasy feeling that comes with the safety, warmth and security of your house being compromised, which is bad enough. On top of all this, there is also the worry that you will have to find an honest tradesperson to deal with it.

Getting jobs done well is often very expensive, and many household repair jobs need to be done quickly, leaving you with few options but to find the money to pay, and quick. This is why choosing the right tradesperson is so important. The last thing you need is to find yourself paying twice for the same job! You call a plumber to do a plumbing job. He or she request a deposit before they start a job, usually thirty percent of the total job. Once you pay the tradesman you will never see him or her again.

Majority of Zimbabwe’s property owners struggle to find a reliable plumber, with trusted builders and electricians also in short supply. Some homeowners are resorting to wrestle with do it yourself (DIY), consumers want reliable traders to take the strain. Finding a reliable builder, plumber, electrician or carpenter can be difficult. It’s thought that unscrupulous tradespeople cost the Zimbabwe’s economy millions of pounds each year. Not only this, but they cause much inconvenience and heartache to thousands of house owners who are left high and dry with shoddy workmanship or unreasonably hefty bills.

However, Zimbabweans should all take comfort in the fact that it is actually much easier to find a good tradesperson now than it has ever been before, thanks to the internet. It has become their chosen mode of advertising.Tradespeople working in the local area are highly aware of the power of social media. If they do a bad job even once, they can have their reputation sullied for years to come!

There is a new site called clickaservice.co.zw being developed to specifically help house owners find a reputable tradesman.

This sites will invite customers to leave reviews and even verify these reviews to check they are genuine. Clickaservice.co.zw will help home owners find a recommended tradesperson. Tradesmen can sign up for a $1 and a customer can leave a review following a completed job. Your review is then followed up by a representative from clickaservice to ensure that you are a genuine customer, which adds validity to the site.

Clickaservice is regarded as a highly effective way to avoid cowboy tradespeople as members. They are then vetted by clickaservice and must sign up a set of commitments to quality and workmanship. Members give their permission for all reviews to be published, good or bad, but they are offered the right to reply when a bad review comes through. If you want to make sure you are not wasting your money when appointing a tradesman, clickaservice is a great way to find a tradesperson you can trust.

It is vital that if you looking a tradesperson, ask at least two or three different tradesmen for quotation before deciding who to do the job. It is important to meet the tradesperson in person it can help when judging characters and getting a feel for their levels of expertise too. It is a headache to have time to get quotes, but it save you hundreds of dollars,it is time worth spending.

In these times of digital transformation, finding a trader does not need to be difficult. Click a Service will have an accredited tradepersons on its database, all of whom have been assessed and vetted by their office, so you can feel confident about the level of service they will provide. This is a service that will take away the burden of losing money and having a job being done twice.

“Wadyajena Abused Position To Grab Grain, Inputs”

By A Correspondent- The Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ) has accused Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Lands and Agriculture chairperson Justice Mayor Wadyajena of abusing his position to grab its grain and inputs transportation deal.

GMAZ made the claims in its application filed at the Harare High Court on Tuesday seeking a review of the committee’s inquiry proceedings.

The association said they were ambushed by the committee, adding their chairperson Tafadzwa Musarara was being bullied by Wadyajena, a Zanu-PF legislator.

“The applicants apply in terms of the provisions of the High Court Act Chapter 7:06 as read with the provisions of the Administrative Justice Act Chapter 10:28 and the common law for the review of the proceedings relating to the funds distributed by the 6th respondent (RBZ) to the 1st applicant (GMAZ) for procurement of wheat…” the application read in part.

In the application, GMAZ, Drotsky (Pvt) Limited and Musarara were the applicants.

They cited the parliamentary committee, its chairperson Wadyajena, Parliament of Zimbabwe, Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda, Clerk of Parliament, Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe and Minister of Finance Mthuli Ncube as respondents, respectively.

GMAZ noted that while the law allows the committee to order any person to appear before it, the same law does not permit its chair to prepare and adopt reports.

“Second respondent (Wadyajena) is an interested party in the proceedings in that he operates a fleet of trucks which he owns under the company called Mayor Logistics. This company was awarded contracts to ferry agricultural inputs, grain, cotton and other crops on behalf of the government,” GMAZ submitted.

The association indicated that Wadyajena failed to declare his interests in the matter, but went on to preside over the inquiry despite him being conflicted.

“The result of the failure by 2nd respondent to declare that he is conflicted is that he presided over a committee that has oversight over the grain value chain business in which he is an interested party benefiting through his company Mayor Logistics, which is a clear breach of the Administrative Justice,” GMAZ submitted.

“The 2nd respondent displayed he had nefarious motives calculated to harass, embarrass  and portray 1st applicant (GMAZ) in bad light by passing gratuitous and sarcastic comments against the applicant on social media at the time when the proceedings were pending or ongoing under his chairmanship.”

GMAZ appealed to the court to set aside the committee’s findings.

In his founding affidavit, Musarara said Wadyajena’s conduct during the proceedings were reckless and unprofessional

“The reckless and unprofessional conduct of 2nd respondent manifested itself in relation to a separate enquiry in respect of funding by the 1st applicant (GIMAZ) to the Grain Marketing Board. 1st applicant wrote a letter of complaint against 2nd respondent to 5th respondent on the conduct of (Wadyajena) that he was on witch hunt against 1st applicant,” he submitted.

Tobacco Farmers Urged To Be Wary Of Climate Change Effects

By A Correspondent- Senior Agronomist Lazarus Gatawa has urged tobacco farmers  to plan thoroughly and elevate their agricultural practices as mitigation measures to counter unpredictable rainfall seasons created by climate change occurrence.

Gatawa said Climate change is a consequence of rising average global temperatures caused by greenhouse gas emissions from burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas to produce energy along with other human activities like cutting down of trees and veld fires.

He stated various effects of Climate change.

“Some of the devastating impacts of climate change that directly affect tobacco farmers include extreme heat, mid season drought spells and incessant rainfall that may cause water logging in the fields.”

The impacts of unpredictable incessant rainfall such as that  experienced during the 2021-2022 rain season affect the tobacco plant expected growth, yield and quality,” Gatawa said.

“Waterlogged fields will lead to severely constricted root growth respiration due to oxygen deficiency in the soil zone. Farmers should seek advice from Extension officers on how best they can open up contour ridges. Tobacco ridges should be put at 45⁰ angle in order to drain off excess water if rainfall is excessive and dam-ridges should be put along these ridges to hold water if rainfall is low. Farmers with fields that are prone to waterlogging should make big ridges that are more raised for the plant roots to be situated away from the ground level. Farmers should select North facing slopes as seedbed sites as these receive more solar radiation and seedbeds as such should be fenced off using thatch grass in order to regulate the inside temperature.”

“Tobacco farmers are also being advised to plan and do the following operations earlier; destruction of tobacco stalks as stipulated by the law, maintenance of farm  implements, early ploughing, early liming, early seedbeds and early planting so that their crop will have a longer growing period to build leaf body before the incessant rains come. Early payment of farm workers and all their dues related to the current season will buttress the preparedness of the farmers for the next season.”

“If tobacco farmers follow these climate change proofing agricultural practices they will be able to attain a  yield of 3 tonnes per hectare and a profitable average price of  USD$3 per kg without major challenges.

Farmers without irrigation facilities should consult their nearest Field officers on the best earliest seedbed establishment and planting dates suitable for their respective areas,” he added

Gold Panners Dig Up Primary School

By A Correspondent- Kwekwe Central MP Judith Tobaiwa (Citizens Coalition for Change) has called on authorities to take action against gold panners  causing environmental degradation at a primary school in the gold mining city.

School buildings at Globe and Phoenix Primary School are in danger of collapsing from mining tunnels and pits dug underneath the school infrastructure.

“Mining and law enforcement authorities should react on time and solve this issue,” Tobaiwa said.

“If no quick interventions are made, facilities including schools will be affected and as a community, we would not like to see the situation reaching a boiling point.”

Tobaiwa made the call during a visit to inspect environmental damage caused by panners at the school.

The headmaster Isaac Bvupajena said: “The situation at my school is worrying, so a solution to end what we are experiencing should be put in place in no
time.”

Cases of illegal miners invading school grounds in the Midlands province are common.

Last year, illegal miners boasted that they would dig anywhere in the country as long as their metal detectors detect gold deposits, adding that they would even dig under people’s property.

In Silobela, Midlands province, the Roman Catholic Church-run Loreto Mission’s infrastructure is being destroyed by illegal gold miners who are digging large pits in search of the yellow metal inside the school premises.

Classroom blocks at the school face possible collapse, while people and livestock are also at risk.

Pius Jamba Biography

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on Thursday morning, announced the arrest of Pius Jamba.

Jamba is the prime suspect in the murder of Moreblessing Ali. Making the announcement on Twitter, the ZRP said it would release a detailed statement during the course of the day.

This is what ZimEye so far knows about Ali:

Jamba is a member of Zanu-PF. Zanu PF says Jamba is not in the party structures thus he is not their member.

The ZRP claims that Jamba was once in a romantic relationship with the late Moreblessing Ali.

Pius Jamba’s mother is Linah Mukandi. She is the one who allegedly discovered Ali’s mutilated body.

Jamba is related to Zanu PF leader Simbarashe Chisango.

It was at Chisango’s homestead where Ali’s body was retrieved.

Reports suggest Jamba is Chisango’s half-brother.

Salary Stalemate Between Gvt, Own Workers

By A Correspondent- Salary talks between government and its restive workers ended in a deadlock yesterday ahead of a full-blown strike action by health professionals and teachers beginning Monday.

It has emerged that civil servants rejected a 100% salary increase offered by government, which would have seen the lowest paid State employee earning $36 000, up from around $18 000.

A salary offer of $36 000 is equivalent to about US$60 using the parallel rate of US$1:$600.

Public Service Commission secretary Jonathan Wutawunashe confirmed the deadlock.

“The meeting adjourned without any consensus and the parties will reconvene next week for further discussions. The situation is, however, not dire,” Wutawunashe told NewsDay Weekender.

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions said: “The employer requested time to consult their principals on the workers’ proposals and to properly interrogate the altered position brought about by the workers.”

The development means the country faces a crippling civil service strike action from Monday after teachers and health workers gave notice that they would not be able to report for duty citing incapacitation.

Teachers have announced a one-week job boycott starting Monday running until Friday to press their employer for United States dollar wages.

Yesterday, 23 health worker representatives that included senior and junior doctors, nurses, pharmacists, radiographers and nurse aides met at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and resolved to withdraw their labour.

On Thursday, nurses issued a notice to immediately down their tools.

In a letter dated June 17, 2022, directed to Health Service Board (HSB) chairperson Paulinus Sikhosana, the health workers said the employer had closed room for negotiations since 2021.

“Following our meeting on June 17, 2022 at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, attended by the health worker association representatives, it was unanimously agreed that as the government health workers, represented by the health workers associations leaders, here undersigned, after having made numerous attempts to engage the employer with no success, do hereby notify your office of our state of incapacitation and the subsequent withdrawal of service the government health workers effective Monday June 20, 2022,” a letter by the Zimbabwe Health Apex Council read.

“The decision to withdraw our service is not taken lightly, but the workers are without means to execute their mandate.”

In another letter to the public, the health professionals wrote: “To date, we have written more than five letters over the last 14 months requesting meetings, to engage on how to improve the conditions of service and improve the moral of the healthcare workers. Yet to date, we’ve not had a single meeting with the Health Service Board in 14 months.

“Other civil servants have enjoyed the company of their minister but this is not the case with the health workers. As workers, there has not been a single meeting with the Minister of Health and Child Care (Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga) since his appointment. The Health Service Board chairperson has also been hostile to health workers and has repeatedly refused our calls to engage with him.”

Civil servants are demanding pre-2018 United States dollar salaries as the local currency keeps losing value in the face of skyrocketing prices of basic goods and services.

HSB executive director Angelbert Mbengwa said he was aware of the letter, but referred the NewsDay Weekender back to Sikhosana for a comment.

“I have heard about the letter, but I have not considered it,” Mbengwa said.

“It is directed to Dr Sikhosana, so he is better placed to respond to your questions.”

Sikhosana was unreachable for comment.

Finance minister Mthuli Ncube and Reserve Bank governor John Mangudya early this week said government had no capacity to meet US dollar salary demands.

Prices of basic goods and commodities have been skyrocketing as inflation also bites, topping 131% as of May up from 96% recorded in April.

National Employment Councils have since directed private sector employees to pay part salaries in US dollars to cushion workers against the vagaries of the harsh economic climate.

Critics have said the enduring economic crisis evokes memories of the 2008 hyper-inflationary era which resulted in the country dumping the Zimbabwe dollar.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa re-introduced the Zimbabwe dollar in 2019 after a decade of relative stability.

Grace Sells 700 Cows As Mugabe Empire Crumbles

Gushungo Dairy Estates has closed shop after former first lady Grace Mugabe sold about 700 dairy cows worth about US$1.4 million to a prominent butcher, rendering about 120 workers jobless.

Ziyambi Ziyambi Summoned

By A Correspondent- Parliament has summoned Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs minister  Ziyambi Ziyambi to present a Bill that criminalises having sex with minors under the age of 18.

This follows the Constitutional Court’s recent landmark ruling increasing the age of sexual consent from 16 to 18.

According to the ruling, Ziyambi has up to a year to enact a law that protects children from sexual exploitation in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution.

On Thursday, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Mbizo MP Settlement Chikwinya made the call for the minister to be summoned to Parliament while raising a point of national interest.

“I therefore call upon the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs to come to Parliament with a Bill that actualises the  provisions but criminalise the involvement of sexual activities for children under the age of 18 years so that at least we make it a reality for us to protect these children who are below the age of 18,” Chikwinya said.

Chikwinya was supported by CCC Harare East legislator Tendai Biti.

“The Minister of Justice and government was obliged to come up with a comprehensive Bill protecting children, not just vis-à-vis sex or child marriage but also things like pornography and cyber bullying,” Biti said.

“So the minister must come up with a comprehensive Bill — protecting children, giving life to the children’s rights set out in Section 81 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

“The implicit ruling by the Constitutional Court is that the Child Protection Adoption Act must also be revisited.  It still sets the age of a child at 16 and does not offer sufficient protection, particularly for those children between 16 and 18,also children still face discrimination from the inheritance point of view.”-newsday

Police Raise Concern Over Robberies

By A Correspondent- Police in Mashonaland West have raised concern over the rise in robberies targeting haulage truck drivers.

Confirming the upsurge of such cases, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) provincial spokesperson, Inspector Margaret Chitove, said the robbers, commonly known as “Makaramata” (Climbers) waylay slow-moving trucks as they go uphill, cut pressure hoses of the hydraulic systems, which force vehicles to stop, before they pounce.

She said reported incidents had escalated, particularly in the mountainous Chikuti area.

In a recent incident which occurred on June 15, 2022, at the 168 kilometre-peg along the Harare-Chirundu highway, a truck driver, Guardian Sobafana, was driving alone enroute to Chirundu.

Upon reaching the said spot, unidentified robbers threw stones at the vehicle, while others climbed onto it and cut pressure pipes, forcing the truck to stop.

The assailants sprayed the driver’s eyes with an irritant before stealing a cellphone, radio, an assortment of clothes and blankets, all valued at US$797.

They assaulted Sabafana using sticks and boots, resulting in him sustaining facial injuries.

Police urged drivers to avoid travelling at night in a bid to curb such incidents.

“We urge truckers to desist from driving at night as this exposes them to highway robbers. Instead, they must park at designated truck stops and continue journeys during the day when it is less likely they would be targeted by robbers,” said Chitove.

Musarara Drags Wadyajena To The Courts

By- Harare businessman and the Grain Millers Association chairman, Tafadzwa Musarara has dragged Zanu PF Gokwe Member of Parliament (MP) for Gokwe Nembudziya, Justice Mayor Wadyajena to the courts.

Musarara is accusing Wadyajena of accussing of abusing his Parliamentary post to champion personal interests.

Musarara cited the Parliamentary Committee on Lands and Agriculture chaired by Wadyajena, the Parliament of Zimbabwe, Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Mudenda Clerk of Parliament, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe and Finance minister,Mthuli Ncube as respondents.
GMAZ has submitted that in pushing Musarara out of a grain and inputs transportation deal, Wadyajena showed “his interests in the cause of bias, malice or corruption in the manner he conducted himself throughout the proceedings.”
The court was told that while the law allows the committee to order any person to appear before it, the same law does not permit it and its chairperson to prepare and adopt reports.

In this regard, GMAZ is seeking a review of the committee’s inquiry proceedings in which it was listed as a respondent.
The association said they were ambushed by the committee and bullied by Wadyajena.
GMAZ, Drotsky PVT Limited and Musarara are cited as applicants. Reads the court application:
Second respondent is an interested party in the proceedings in that he operates a fleet of trucks, which he owns under the company called Mayor Logistics.
This company was awarded contracts to ferry agricultural inputs, grain, cotton and other crops on behalf of the government.
The association indicated that Wadyajena failed to declare his interests in the matter, but went on to preside over the inquiry, despite him being conflicted, thereby breaching “the Administrative Justice.”
GMAZ appealed to the court to set aside the committee’s findings.
The matter is yet to be heard.

Zanu PF Intensifies Chamisa Infiltration Efforts

By- Zanu PF is reportedly interfering with CCC political affairs by pushing the newly formed party to hold primary elections and set up structures.

According to journalist and government critic Hopewell Chin’ono, a top Zanu PF official said, the ruling party wants to infiltrate Chamisa through these structures they are pushing him to establish.

Chamisa and his colleagues dumped the MDC Alliance brand early this year and launched CCC, but the party is yet to hold a congress.

Chin’ono, said the senior told him that the ruling party is finding it difficult to infiltrate CCC because there is no one to target.
The official reportedly said it is easier to capture individuals who run the structures using money and get them to do things. Said Hopewell’s unnamed Zanu pF source:
We are finding it hard because there is no structure.
The idea that anyone can be a member because it is a citizen party has wrongfooted us.
We don’t know who to target because we are only seeing [Nelson Chamisa].
Some ZANU PF officials and exiled former senior officials are on record criticising CCC for having no structures and postponing holding an elective congress.
On Friday, exiled former ZANU PF politburo member Jonathan suggested that m

‘VP Chiwenga’s New Wife Already Planning An Escape’ | FULL PICTURE | EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW SUGGESTING GUVHEYA NOT HUBBY MATERIAL

By Farai D Hove | Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s new wife, Col Miniothabo Baloyi is already plotting an escape from the January beast, Zim community whispers have suggested following a photograph of her reclining down with a suggestive sad face.

VP Chiwenga married his latest wife, his 4th in a row since independence, at a time when he is subjecting the mother of his other three children, Marry Mubaiwa, to public violence, which includes being barred from getting medical attention for her gruesome wounds that emerged from the June 2018 White City stadium bombing.

VP Chiwenga’s new wife is still to comment on allegations that she is thinking of escaping days after tying the knot: “Kumbunyikidzwa uko, akuna Mukadzi kwaye angada murume waaari kuona achishunhurudza mumwe Mukadzi zvakadaro Mary Mubayiwa. She’s thinking about the future ahead,” a topic raged on overnight Friday suggesting the general’s new wife is planning an escape.

The title is translated to: “She is being forced. There is no woman who will accept seeing another being subjected to the violence meted out against Marry Mubaiwa. She is thinking about the future ahead (an escape).

A snap survey over the VP’s exclusive interviews with ZimEye suggested that most women do not find the man to be husband material. Chiwenga has a history for the most brutal violence and he is also accused of grinding to dust the body of his love rival of many years, Gen Solomon Mujuru in 2011. Just in January 2019 when confronted by ZimEye after the gunning down of 17 people and raping of over 50 women, Chiwenga told this news network to ‘go report to the police if you have been shot at.’

We reproduce the full exclusive phonecall interview below:

Jonathan Moyo Riles CCC Members Over Moreblessing Ali Comment

The slain Moreblessing Ali was not a Nelson Chamisa led CCC member, Professor Jonathan Moyo has said.

Moyo was commenting after CCC waged a spiritesd fight with ZANU PF claiming that Ali was their member.

“As a brand new party formed in Jan 2022; with no link to any current or past political party; without having held a founding congress; with no ideology; with no constitution and with no structures; how can, or on what basis does, CCC claim anyone as its member?”#PlzAnswerAnyone As a brand new party formed in Jan 2022; with no link to any current or past political party; without having held a founding congress; with no ideology; with no constitution and with no structures; how can, or on what basis does, #CCC claim anyone as its member?,” said Moyo.

Addressing party supporters during a memorial prayer in Nyatsime at Ali’s homestead, Chamisa said Mnangagwa’s silence shows he is responsible, and the 2023 election is going to be violent.

“There is no doubt Moreblessing was killed, there is no doubt who killed her, there is no doubt it is politically motivated.”This is a very bad indication of the election in 2023. It tells you that the darkness of violence and dark clouds are gathering.

“Mnangagwa does not say anything like what other leaders do, yet he is the one who has a mandate to protect citizens.

“In terms of the constitution, he must protect everyone, but he was silent when Mboneni Ncube and Itai Dzamara died, and he is still silent while this is happening, and it shows he is responsible,” he said.

Kuwadzana Man Arrested For Stealing Lawyer’s Wallet, Cellphone

A Kuwadzana Extension man was yesterday arrested for allegedly stealing a wallet, and cellphone, from a Harare lawyer.

Micah Matinyarare, 29, of Kuwadzana Extension was arrested for allegedly stealing Tanaka Kangira’s valuables last Sunday.

Police, upon searching his room, recovered Tanaka’s business cards and something believed to be herbs, which briefly sent officers, and his neighbours, fleeing from the scene.

“Hey, maita mushonga mubag rake randikachidza,” said one of the neighbours.Micah, who is known for selling cell phones, was quick to accuse one of his friends, who paid him a visit.

“I do not know how these business cards found their way into my room,” he said.

“I suspect one of my friends, who visited me, might be the one who stole the wallet and cellphone.”

One of the neighbours claimed to have lodged a robbery case against Micah, a few months ago, and said the suspect keeps walking free.

Yesterday, he was led to Kuwadzana Police Station, where he was detained.

Mwonzora Drags Chipinge Into Another By-Election

By Anotida Magaisa| Barely four months since the last round of by-elections in Chipinge, residents of ward 16 in the district will be voting to elect a new councilor after opposition MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora wielded the axe on Rapheas Sithole.

The nomination court which sat in Chipinge on the 10th of June 2022 approved four candidates namely Gladys Muposhi of Zanu PF, Remeredzai Ziki of the Professor Lovemore Madhuku led National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) as well as Zachariah Sithole of Patriotic Zimbabwe and Rapheaus Sithole who was recalled and now representing the Citizens Coalition of Zimbabwe.

In its recall letter, MDC-T alleged that Sithole was no longer a member of the party that romped him to victory in 2018.

A Manicaland based group, Platform for Youth and Community Development Trust (PYCD) has expressed concern that these by- elections are the inadequacies of the country’s electoral laws which takes away power from the voter to promote selfish interests of party leaders who are allowed to recall elected leaders willy-nilly.

” We notice that political activities in Chipinge are escalating in preparation for 2023 harmonised elections. The by-election in Chipinge allows us within the civic society to test the relationship between candidates and election manifestos. There are serious land conflicts in Chipinge which are suppossed to be election issues. In ward 16 there is a land conflict in Maronga pitting villagers with the empire of Noah Taguta and in Kondo pitting villagers with land barons hiding behind Chipinge RDC” said PYCD leader Claris Madhuku.

In the last by-elections in Chipinge, the ruling Zanu PF snatched one seat from the opposition.

Mixed Feelings Over Tower Lights Installation At Checheche Growth Point

By Memory Sibanda and Praise Gwenzi| Checheche residents have expressed mixed feelings over the recent installation of solar lights at the growth point amid concerns over non-consultation of key stakeholders.

Chipinge Rural District Council which oversees Checheche Growth Point contracted a Harare based company Mikeledi Resources Corporation to install 52 solar powered street lights.

Chipinge RDC Human Resources and Administration Head Takesure Maduveko told ZimEye that the tower lights project was funded from the devolution funds at cost of ZWL$6.6 Million dollars.

In an interview with ZimEye, a Checheche resident Zvikomborero Mandhlazi said the installation of tower lights will curb rampant crime in the area.

“ Tinombaadakara yaambo ngendaa yekuti mwaChecheche mwajeka taiye tahlupeka ngemabhinya ,hino tahlamburuka (we are excited about the tower lights, crime had become a big concern to us and we hope it will go down), said Mandhlazi who is a single mother and vendor in Checheche.

Mandhlazi’s sentiments were also shared by other women involved in vending.

Most of these hardworking women sell agricultural produce such as fruits, vegetables and tomatoes until around 8pm.

Alfred Tafamba who is a businessman at Checheche Growth point also hailed the installation of the tower lights saying he had witnessed improved business since people can now move around at night.

“Previously people were being robbed while trying board long journey buses to Harare, Gweru, Masvingo, Bulawayo and South Africa. So I find the installation of solar lights positive since it has increased business hours and reduced robbery with people now able to move around at night,” said Tafamba.

Checheche Residents and Ratepayers Trust (CRRT) was however unimpressed accusing Chipinge RDC of unilaterally imposing the solar lights project

“Checheche residents were not consulted and informed in terms of prioritising this project, which are the critical processes and procedures required when formulating devolution projects” said CRRT Chairperson Win Bhila.

Bhila said stakeholder consultation was key to get buy in which in turn reduces cases of vandalism of the street lights.

In a statement soon after the installation of the project, Platform for Youth and Community Development (PYCD) congratulated Chipinge RDC for using devolution funds on projects that are tangible.

The organisation’s Research, Livelihoods and Governance Officer Allan Murozvi advised Chipinge RDC to involve its stakeholders from the village and ward level to ensure that such development is accepted and consumed by the correct beneficiaries.
