He was 82.
His daughter, Ms Vivian Mararike, confirmed the death of the Prof who was University of Zimbabwe sociology lecturer.

“He passed on in the early hours of today,” she said.

Mararike was widely known for his regular appearances on ZBC talk show “Zvavanhu”, where he could blast the opposition MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai together with Vimbai Chivaura, Sheunesu Mupepereki and Tafataona Mahoso.

Jamba, a murder suspect, was supposed to be handcuffed and leg-ironed when he was being escorted to the court.

Zimbabwe has seen an upsurge in violence and violent crime. The brutal killing of Moreblessings Ali is one among many such violent crimes that are on the rise.

It is disturbing that in the wake of such brutal crimes a journalist is threatened in broad daylight and no action is taking by the Police.

Simba Sithole a bona fide journalist was threatened with severe physical assault by one Isheunesu Saunyama known as Chief Saunyama in Mashonaland Central.

The irate Chief Saunyama claimed that he was threatening the journalist on behalf of Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe. This becomes a huge problem when the Minister responsible for maintaining peace, law and order in the country becomes a godfather and perpetrator of violence against journalists.

Isheunesu Saunyama is a well known Kazembe Kazembe henchman in Mashonaland Central and his reputation of violent behavior has earned him warlord status in Mashonaland Central province.

I write to all the Chapter 12 independent commissions mandated to support and entrench human rights and democracy; to protect the sovereignty and interests of the people; to promote constitutionalism; to promote transparency and accountability in public institutions; to secure the observance of democratic values and principles by the State and all institutions and agencies of government and government controlled entities; and to ensure that injustices are remedied.

It is your constitutional duty and mandate to look into this matter.

I also write to Zimbabwe Union of Journalists to please ensure that journalists are protected and not victimized for doing their jobs.

I write to ZANU PF and ask them to ensure press freedom and non-violent behavior by their members.

I write to the Commissioner General of Police and ask that a case be opened against Isheunesu Saunyama for threatening a journalist and violating the POTRAZ ACT while claiming to be acting on behalf of and in the interest of Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe.

The Moreblessings Ali situation has shown us that we cannot afford threats and violent behavior in the country especially now that we are counting down to the 2023 elections.

By A Correspondent- Bulawayo East legislator Ilos Nyoni has demanded answers on the progress of Egodini Mall which was supposed to be complete by April 2022.

Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday the legislator took Deputy Minister of local government and Public Works Miriam Chombo to task on the matter.

 “May the Minister inform the House of Assembly on the progress made regarding the construction of Egodini Mall project by contractor W Terracotra Trading P/L which was awarded tender Terracotra in 2016, with the projection that the project will be completed in April 2022,” Nyoni said

When the Private Limited Company won the tender prospects were high that the new project will further spice up the City of Kings into a modern entity.

However, 8 years down, the City of Kings has turned into a compound of unorganised and dirty paupers owing to the closure of the once ‘trade mark of Bulawayo.

It’s closure has led to the congestion of the city with vendors scattered in every available space and commuter omnibus causing havoc within the Central Bussiness centre.

As expected the government responded by saying there was notable progress at the sight though indications on the ground points otherwise.

The Deputy Minister said commuters are expected to start using the new Mall in September this year.

“Currently, practical completion of the taxi rank and associated infrastructure is expected at the end of July 2022 with passengers being able to commute as from 1 September 2022 subject to opening of the facility by the relevant authorities”, said the Deputy Minister.

She further stated that construction of informal trader stores and other infrastructure started in March this year after delays which were caused by Covid 19 lockdowns.

The said infrastructure is also expected to be complete and pave way for informal traders by September as well.

“In March 2022, top structutre construction of the 1100 informal trader stores and related infrastructure started. Brick work for all informal trader stores is expected to be completed by the end of July 2022. Fabrication of all the informal trader structure steel work is 80% complete. Currently, practical completion of the informal trader stores section is expected at the end of July 2022 with qualifying informal traders getting beneficial training occupation on 1 September 2022”, she said.

The Deputy Minister further claimed that Covid induced lockdowns and financial constraints led to the delay of the commencement of the project.

Once complete the mall is expected to house bus terminal building, fast food retails, grocery retails and a fuel station while also decongesting the city.

A video of Makhadzi dancing to her favourite Zimbabwean song has sent social media into a frenzy.

In a video shared by Jah Signal, Makhadzi can be seen seated with her friends at a groove enjoying some drinks.

The Dj then acknowledged Makhadzi’s presence and mentioned how he knows that she loves Zimbabwean music. He decided to dedicate Jah Signals’ song Sweety (Shinga Muroora) to Makhadzi.

The moment Jah Signal’s song was played, Makhadzi quickly jumped up from the couch and started dancing as she sang along. Her friends and spectators in the club hype her as she danced to her favourite song.

By A Correspondent- The family of murdered CCC activist Moreblessing Ali has revealed a list of demands they want to be met before her burial.

The demands include, among other things, a public apology from Pius Jamba, the prime suspect in Ali’s murder, and the arrest and conviction of all people allegedly involved in the cover-up of the crime.

Ali was kidnapped by Jamba on the night of 24 May 2022, and her body was found on 11 June in a disused well at Laina Mukandi’s homestead in Nyatsime, Beatrice.

Laina Mukandi the mother of Jamba and his half-brother, Simba Chisango, a local ZANU PF chairman.

Read the Ali family’s demands below:

1. We want our family lawyer Job Sikhala to be released so that he can continue helping us on this murder case and also the leader of our search party Godfrey Sithole. No release – No burial.

2. We need to see the exact place where our sister was murdered. No crime scene visit – No burial.

3. We want an independent forensic investigation of Moreblessing’s body.

4. We want ZANU PF to stop meddling & threatening our family, they have beaten some of our family members. Any threats or abuse – No burial.

5. We want to do the final service in Nyatsime and we don’t want the Nyatsime people who caused chaos to be present in particular, Masimbi Masimbi, Maoresa and Rosemary Chadzamira and all those who have been spreading lies. Any violence – No burial.

6. We want everyone who was involved in the crime and cover-up to be arrested and convicted. No conviction – no burial.

7. We want Jamba and all the culprits to apologise immediately. A public apology, because they wronged the whole nation not just our family. No apology – no burial.

But unlike their male counterparts, they’re so good at maintaining a double-life that often times it’s almost impossible to tell an adulterous wife from a faithful one.

Well, as a warning to those women who indulge in infidelity it won’t last forever, as you are bound to get caught.

In a matter yet to be heard in court, a man from Bulawayo is seeking divorce after suspecting his wife was cheating on him after he found a receipt for a box of condoms in her purse.

Adam Siziba from Riverside suburb was horrified when he stumbled upon a condom receipt in his wife, Michelle Moyo’s handbag.

According to court papers seen by B-Metro, Siziba is filing for divorce at the Bulawayo Customary Court, claiming his wife of 11 years was threatening his life with her adulterous liaisons.

In his suit he stated that there was no love anymore between him and Moyo, reiterating that their customary marriage had irretrievably broken down and there were no prospects of a restoration to a normal relationship.

The main reason being that his wife was cheating on him.

“I am customarily married to Michelle Moyo and our union has irretrievably broken down as I suspect that she is cheating on me after I found a receipt for a box of condoms in her handbag.

“As a result, there are no prospects of a restoration to a normal relationship because we now have irreconcilable differences which render the continuance of the relationship impossible. As a couple we have also lost love and affection for each other,” read the papers in part.

He further claimed that when he confronted her, she failed to give a satisfactory explanation.

“I have suspected my wife has been cheating on me for a while now and she was also no longer coming home early from work. My suspicions were, however, confirmed when I found condom receipts in her handbag.

“Another issue is that we rarely made love and if we did, she often looked bored, never looked at me, and when it was done, she would leave the room immediately. It made me feel like less of a human being. I knew the love was gone,” stated Siziba.

Siziba, who stated that he would take care of their three children’s needs upon the dissolution of their marriage, wants to have their property, mostly household items and two vehicles shared equally.

Moyo’s response is set to be heard when the parties appear in court.-BMetro

By A Correspondent- Gushungo Dairy Estates has closed shop after former first lady Grace Mugabe sold about 700 dairy cows worth about US$1,4 million to a prominent butcher, rendering about 120 workers jobless.

The company was reeling from a US$20 million debt, which forced the entity to auction some of its equipment to pay creditors.

The sprawling estate, formerly known as Foyle Farm before the property was parceled to the Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (Arda) by the then Agriculture ministry, measures 1 200 hectares.

It was later taken by the late former president Robert Mugabe who set up a state-of-the-art dairy plant in Mazowe — about 40km north of Harare. Over 80 newly resettled farmers in Mazowe were forcibly removed to pave way for Mugabe’s business venture.

Gushungo Dairy equipment was imported from South Africa for about US$15 million at a time when Mugabe was ruling Zimbabwe with an iron fist. The company Alpha Omega Dairy (Pvt) Ltd under the Gushungo Estates produced milk, yogurt, cheese and ice cream.

At its peak, the firm produced over 400 000 litres of milk per month.

High-level sources told the Zimbabwe Independent this week that Grace Mugabe failed to run the business resulting in the sale of 700 dairy cows to a local butcher.

At market value, each of the dairy cows cost around US$$2 000, but the butcher could have bought at a lesser price as the cattle were meant for beef.

“Under normal circumstances, dairy cows are expensive but what butchers do is that they buy each beast after weighing. The Gushungo cows were sold last year,” the official, who preferred anonymity, said. “Gushungo Dairy is closed. Workers have been sent home; about 120 of them. Just a few were left doing menial jobs.”

The Independent understands that the dairy equipment is lying idle as a millionaire businessman who is renting the farm has not yet started producing.

“There is no activity at the farm. Most of the equipment was auctioned away earlier this year and some of it last year. This paints a grim picture of a once thriving dairy farm,” an official said.

“Things are not going well. In fact the Mugabe family has scaled down on operations at the farms. In summation, they failed dismally.”

Apart from the collapsed Gushungo Dairy, a 1 000 pig and 6 000 chicken project at Mugabe’s rural Kutamba village home, suffered a natural death as Grace neglected the projects.

Mugabe — who ruled Zimbabwe with an iron fist for 37 years, but was removed via a military coup in November 2017 — left a huge business portfolio mainly in farming with 21 farms, according to a government commissioned land audit.

This is in stark contrast with the one-man-one-farm land policy his administration touted while Mugabe and his family turned into notorious land barons.

Signs of financial problems started showing in May 2019 after Gushungo Dairy Farm auctioned five combine harvesters, five Toyota Hilux pick-up trucks and other farm equipment. Mugabe later died on September 6, 2019.

Recently, the Independent exclusively reported that Mugabe’s family was rocked by a fresh scandal after allegedly selling an assortment of farm equipment belonging to government departments and pocketed the money.

Some of the equipment sold included tractors, high-pressure water pumps and vehicles which had been bought by various government departments using taxpayers’ money.

The Mugabes accessed tractors and combine harvesters from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) during the Gideon Gono era as the apex bank governor.

Mugabe’s daughter, Bona Chikore, who was once Gushungo Holdings’ finance director, could not be reached for comment this week.-ZimIndependent

By A Correspondent- Three Zimbabweans and one South African were killed and burnt last week in Majeje area in Limpopo after they were accused of killing a shop owner and robbing him of an undisclosed amount of money last week on Thursday.

The suspects, Sipho Sibanda, Arthur Moyo and Sadam Ncube from Zimbabwe and Themba Makhubele from South Africa, were killed after the Majeje community accused them of robbing and killing 25-year-old Asanap Aneso.

The killed suspects are reported to have entered Aneso’s tuck-shop, pointed a gun at him, demanded money before one of them shot him dead.

They fled the scene after taking money. However, their luck ran out as members of the public gave chase and caught them. They were beaten up and set on fire.

By A Correspondent- Warriors “super fan” Alvin Zhakata, better known as Aluvah, reportedly sneaked into the country three weeks ago from Cameroon.

Zhakata remained in Cameroon after the end of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in February and reports at the time suggested that he was at one point hospitalised with a heart ailment.

Following his recent return to Zimbabwe, Zhakata has reportedly been keeping a low profile at his family home in Chitungwiza. H-Metro quoted a source as saying:

He got money for the tickets from well-wishers and has been keeping a low profile since then.

He has been in the country for about three weeks now. He doesn’t want people to know that he is back.

According to a Soccer24 report, Zhakata is someone who is allergic to truth and needs help according to a family member who spoke to the publication.

Aluvah is reported to have once misled the nation by saying that he had been robbed in Harare’s central business district.

He spent two weeks in hospital at the time “though what happened to him is something that he and a few close friends know”, reported Soccer24.

At one point, Aluvah claimed he had been invited to watch the Euro 2020 final at Wembley, even though it was just a lie.

Aluvah is also alleged to have misled the nation that former Warriors coach Kalisto Pasuwa had been appointed technical advisor of the Malawi national team at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations that were held in January and February this year in Cameroon.

He also claimed Pasuwa flew to Cameroon, yet the former Dynamos coach spent the entire tournament at home, in Greendale, Harare.

When he left the country for Cameroon, Aluvah claimed he was on a CAF ticket, yet he was not.

Aluvah collapsed in Cameroon early this year and it was reported that the collapse was due to heart complications.

However, this has been dismissed as untrue as Zhakata’s collapse was linked to alcohol, it has been alleged.

Aluvah claimed that Cameroonian legend and FA president, Samuel Eto’o, paid his hospital bill but this has also been dismissed as untrue.

The Warriors praise singer reportedly owns an iPhone 13 yet he is failing to raise 380 euros for a plane ticket to Zimbabwe.

Moreover, his family said they were unaware that he is in Cameroon and in need of financial assistance.

Aluvah reportedly declined the help of a well-wisher who offered to purchase the ticket directly, without giving him the money.

He is also actively involved in Warriors star Marvellous Nakamba’s Nakamba Foundation and this has raised questions about why the foundation has not reached out to help one of their own.-H.Metro

By A Correspondent- A violent, possessive man who brutally assaulted a woman he claimed to be his wife has gone on the run. The abusive man is wanted by the police on charges of attempted murder, kidnapping and housebreaking.

The wanted man has been identified as Lovely Blessing Mangulenje.

A video of the horrific assault of the woman and her lover has gone viral on social media platforms.

In the video, which the abusive man recorded himself, the woman and her lover can be seen cowering while seated on the bed. They are both bereft of clothing and show visible signs of being assaulted.

Mangulenje, who is holding a knife, launches into a tirade accusing the woman of cheating on him. He accuses the man of disrespecting him by sleeping with his wife without protection.

However, the woman insists that she is not his wife. At this point, Blessing Mangulenje gets very angry and starts assaulting the woman brutally. Shortly after, the camera stops recording.

After the video went viral on social media platforms, the woman’s relatives reached out. They revealed that the abusive man is actually the woman’s ex-lover.

According to a man, who identified himself as the woman’s brother, Mangulenje jumped the wall of their family home and broke into the woman’s room.

He then armed himself with a knife and proceeded to assault the woman, her lover and some of her family members. He is alleged to have stabbed the hapless woman before making good his escape.

“The video you posted belongs to my sister. She was attacked by her ex-boyfriend, who jumped the Durawall into my mother’s house and broke the kitchen door and took a knife and stabbed my sister, including abusing my other little sister.

“The guy faces attempted murder, housebreaking and kidnapping charges.

“We have a case number for that case RRB 5020580.”

After learning that the woman had filed charges against him, the abusive man went on the run.

Lovely Blessing Mangulenje is yet to be apprehended.

By- Three Zimbabweans have been burnt to death by a vigilante group in South Africa.

The three Zimbabweans and one South African were killed after being accused of murdering and robbing a tuckshop in Limpopo province.

The provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the incident occurred at Majeje village under the Namakgale policing area outside Phalaborwa at around 8 am.
He identified the victims as Themba Makhubele (34) a South African and three Zimbabweans, Arthur Moyo (19), Sipho Sibanda (20), and Sadam Ncube (27).

The victims were accused by community members of having robbed a tuckshop and murdered the owner identified as Asanap Aneso aged 25.
The man was allegedly gunned down and robbed of an undisclosed amount of money.
Brig Mojapelo said four people had since been arrested in connection with the killing of the four men.
“The four were brutally murdered and their bodies set alight soon after a business robbery at the local tuckshop in which its owner was shot dead,” said Brig Mojapelo.

“Soon after the incident, the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe established a Team to track down the killers.
The suspects were arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning, and we expect to apprehend more people in connection with this matter.”
He said the four suspects will appear before the Namakgale Magistrate Court facing four counts of murder.
Limpopo’s provincial police commander (Lt Gen Hadebe) commended the Police Task team comprising Crime Intelligence, Tracking Team, and Detectives for arresting four suspects aged between 18 and 38 years.
“We issue a stern warning that acts of vigilantism which is often characterised by brutal killings of people suspected of having committed crimes will be dealt with harshly and perpetrators will face the full might of the law,” said Lt Gen Hadebe.

By A Correspondent- Sungura music legend Alick Macheso on Wednesday set up a temporary classroom at the Aquatic Complex in Chitungwiza and spent the day talking to primary school children.

Macheso, who is currently riding high on his new album “Tinosvitswa Nashe” released last week, spent the day interacting with learners from Nadia’s Primary School in Hatfield.

The tutorial saw pupils from ECD-A to Grade 7 discussing music with Macheso, in a session that also had a question-and-answer segment.

The session, called the Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) tour, is part of Nadia’s Primary School’s fulfilment of the new curriculum requirements.

Speaking to H-Metro, on the sidelines of the session, Macheso said he appreciates the introduction of VPA in schools as it will help in the growth of the music industry. He said:

I didn’t think twice when I was told about this occasion. It’s good to realise that the Government has introduced this Visual and Performing Arts subject to our children.

It was good spending time with pupils, it was a session about music and we had a question-and-answer segment which was helpful.

I was impressed by the questions and that most were coming from even those in Grade 1.

They are appreciating music and this will help the industry grow.

VPA, which is now an examinable subject at Grade 7 level, was made mandatory in primary education when the new curriculum was introduced.

There is a part of African music of which sungura is part. We saw it fit as a school to come and visit one of the sungura kings in Zimbabwe so that he can shed more light on the sungura genre.

And, also to help the pupils, especially Grade 7s, with their VPA, the subject was a challenge for them and we saw it fit that children can get more interest in the VPA subject.

By-The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Thursday released details of how Pias Jamba killed CCC activist Moreblessing Ali.

In a statement, ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Jamba murdered Ali on 24 May near Chibhanguza Shopping Centre and hid the body in a bush.
Police said that so far, they have not found any evidence suggesting that the murder was not politically motivated. Asst Comm Nyathi said:
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that Pius Jamba was arrested in Chidamoyo area, Magunje on 16th June 2022 in connection with the callous murder of Moreblessing Ali in Nyatsime area, Chitungwiza on 24th May 2022.
Initial investigations have established that Pius Jamba killed Moreblessing Ali after dragging her from Chibhanguza Shopping Centre, hid the body in a bush and went to his parents’ homestead. He took a kitchen knife and a sack and went back to the bush.
The suspect then cut the body of Moreblessing Ali into pieces and made several trips to the well where he eventually dumped the body.
Investigations are underway to find out if Pius Jamba acted alone or in connivance with other suspects.
Police investigations have so far not found any political link to this sad and heinous crime.
Asst Comm Nyathi said Jamba will be appearing in court soon.

By- Police in Kwekwe have announced discovering a body found lying along the Kwekwe-Harare Highway.

The body was found on Wednesday at around 6 AM with multiple injuries.

The unidentified body has been taken to Kwekwe District Hospital mortuary, where it awaits postmortem.
Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said police received a phone call from an unknown person informing them of the body.
“On the day, Kwekwe Central Police received a call to the effect that there was a body of male adult lying on the road. The estimated age of the now deceased is between 20 to 25 years. The deceased was wearing a red and blue striped t-shirt, faded jean trousers, black socks and black shoes. His leather belt was cut with a suspected sharp object and his trousers had dry blood stains,” said Inspector Mahoko.
Police are now appealing for anyone with information regarding the deceased to approach the CID Kwekwe or any nearest police station.
Meanwhile, police in Kwekwe are investigating a robbery case where a man lost a Honda Fit vehicle to four unknown robbers who attacked him.
Although finer details of the robbery case are not yet clear, National Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.
“Police in Kwekwe are appealing for information which may assist in the investigation of a robbery case in which four suspects attacked the complainant and stole two cellphones, US$30, and a white Honda Fit, AFL 6605,” he said. Chronicle

By- Three Zimbabweans have been burnt to death by a vigilante group in South Africa.

The three Zimbabweans and one South African were killed after being accused of murdering and robbing a tuckshop in Limpopo province.

The provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the incident occurred at Majeje village under the Namakgale policing area outside Phalaborwa at around 8 am.
He identified the victims as Themba Makhubele (34) a South African and three Zimbabweans, Arthur Moyo (19), Sipho Sibanda (20), and Sadam Ncube (27).

The victims were accused by community members of having robbed a tuckshop and murdered the owner identified as Asanap Aneso aged 25.
The man was allegedly gunned down and robbed of an undisclosed amount of money.
Brig Mojapelo said four people had since been arrested in connection with the killing of the four men.
“The four were brutally murdered and their bodies set alight soon after a business robbery at the local tuckshop in which its owner was shot dead,” said Brig Mojapelo.

“Soon after the incident, the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe established a Team to track down the killers.
The suspects were arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning, and we expect to apprehend more people in connection with this matter.”
He said the four suspects will appear before the Namakgale Magistrate Court facing four counts of murder.
Limpopo’s provincial police commander (Lt Gen Hadebe) commended the Police Task team comprising Crime Intelligence, Tracking Team, and Detectives for arresting four suspects aged between 18 and 38 years.
“We issue a stern warning that acts of vigilantism which is often characterised by brutal killings of people suspected of having committed crimes will be dealt with harshly and perpetrators will face the full might of the law,” said Lt Gen Hadebe.

By A Correspondent- Chiefs Council president Fortune Charumbira has demanded more action on child marriages, while urging government and stakeholders to educate the nation about the Marriages Act which outlaws child marriages, among other provisions.

Speaking during a workshop to unpack the Marriages Act (Chapter 5:15) organised by the Women’s Affairs ministry in the capital yesterday, Chirumbira said: “We need an action plan programme that will run for two years, designed in all languages so that we can reach all the communities in the country.”

“Education systems should also ensure the young people themselves are involved. This will be after we hold brainstorming sessions to find out the root causes of these child marriages.”

He added: “We should not run away from the real issues causing these child marriages, but unpack them and come up with solutions that will be shared across all platforms and sections of the society.”

The Act, passed into law last month, introduces a civil partnership and a qualified civil marriage and recognises an unregistered customary law union as a marriage.

Under the Act, facilitating marriages of children below 18 years is now a criminal offence.

Women’s Affairs minister Sithembiso Nyoni said: “We should continue to disapprove and campaign against child marriages. There is need to have indabas and look at the key issues causing child marriages and how we are going to end these marriages now that the law supports us.”

Musasa Project programmes officer Tinashe Chitunhu said young girls forced into child marriages were victims of gender-based violence.

“With the new law, it is a new dawn for us. However, we appeal to the government to expedite issues of operationalising the Marriages Bill and its various amendments so that we can start the business of protecting our young girls,” Chitunhu said.

Human Rights lawyer Obey Shava says some youths stoned destroyed the house of the late Rtd. Lieutenant colonel Elliot Piki who disappered and was found dead in 2018.

Said Shava, “Just received news that some youths are destroying properties at  Rtd. Lieutenant colonel Piki’s house in Waterfalls.Police waterfalls not reacting 3 hrs after the report.The same lieutenant was once abducted and stopped from testifying at the Motlante Commission.”

In 2018 Piki mysteriously went missing after reportedly being abducted hours before giving evidence to the Commission of Inquiry into the August 1 killings.

Piki was reportedly abducted by unknown assailants,forcing his wife Sibongile Sarukato to approach the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) to petition the High Court with a to force government to investigate his whereabouts.

By A Correspondent- Two Zimbabwean nationals have been arrested in Johannesburg, South Africa, for armed robbery and illegal possession of ammunition.

The Zimbabweans and their two alleged accomplices, both South African, are expected to appear in court soon.

In a statement on Thursday, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department’s communications unit said on 14 June, police officers in the city received a complaint from two students who alleged they had been robbed of their cellphones.

The students alleged that they were mugged by five males at Delvers and Albert Street. Johannesburg Metropolitan Police said:

Officers proceeded to the area where the robbery occurred and followed up on information of the suspects who committed the robbery.

The information led officers to a building at End and Albert Street where they found three male suspects identified by the complainants.

The rooms were searched and three toy firearms, two okapi knives and five live 9mm ammunition were recovered.

Whilst searching for a fourth suspect, information led officers to where the suspect resides.

Upon arrival, a 17-year-old female was found in the room. When searching the room, another toy firearm and live ammunition was recovered.

By A Correspondent- Factional fights rocking Zanu-PF’s Mashonaland West province have escalated, with chairperson Mary Mliswa-Chikoka being accused of illegally dissolving district structures to disempower rival Kindness Paradza.

Her actions, which have been noted in a letter sent to her office and copied to national political commissar Mike Bimha by Chegutu district’s executive, highlight heightened infighting for positions in the lower rungs of the party.

Zanu-PF district executives constitute the electoral college in voting for provincial executive committees (PEC).

Mliswa-Chikoka, who doubles as provincial affairs minister, and deputy information minister Paradza, squared off in the race for provincial chairperson, in polls that were marred by allegations of rigging.

“We, the undersigned Zanu-PF party leadership from Chegutu District, do hereby write to seek clarification on why Mashonaland West PEC has made a decision to dissolve properly elected and properly constituted party districts in Chegutu Urban,” reads the letter, dated June 13, 2022.

“The four districts affected are; Dzikamidzi, Umvovo, Kaguvi 1 and Kaguvi 2. Party leadership in Chegutu was surprised by the announcement you made to dissolve the districts at an inter-district meeting held in Chegutu.”

The said meeting was held on June 12.

The letter adds: “That decision was made without consultation with the local Chegutu leadership. Chairman, you will recall that the party districts you want to dissolve were elected during the national restructuring exercise supervised by the national Commissariat Department in 2021.”

Zanu-PF Chegutu urban members feel Mliswa-Chikoka is propping Chegutu West legislator, Dexter Nduna, who is eyeing a party central committee position.

They claimed party meetings have turned violent, as senior members are unleashing “mobsters” on their detractors.

“People who organise these mobsters are known, but the province takes no action to protect ordinary party members,” it noted.

Mliswa-Chikoka and her allies stand accused of having misplaced priorities and “fomenting chaos and disharmony among party structures” in the wake of a Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) scheduled rally this weekend.

“If we are not careful, the way the province is managing party affairs generally will affect the party’s performance in next year’s general elections,” said the disgruntled Zanu-PF officials.

Last week, Zanu-PF Youth League provincial chairman, Tapiwa Masenda, allegedly loyal to Paradza, had his executive reshuffled, with Mliswa-Chikoka loyalists imposed to take up influential posts in order to dilute his authority.

Timothy Masviba was imposed as vice chairman, replacing Kudzai Mudekunye, while Mutsa Ziyambi, son to Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, was nominated for secretary post, taking over from Rudo Munyonga.

Thomas Chidzomba and one Karonga replaced Irvine Matanga and Ertybty Mubaiwa as treasurer and commissar, respectively.-NewZim

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has failed to release the 2018 provisional voters’ roll to an independent think-tank, the Election Resource Centre (ERC), thereby flouting a High Court order, while betraying its insincerity in availing the voter register for audit.

The ERC has been continually writing to Zec, requesting the voters’ roll, but in vain.

The 2018 High Court order read by The NewsHawks shows that Zec was directed to furnish the ERC with the provisional voters’ roll that it used for the inspection exercise in the period of 19-29 May 2018.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the reasonable period within which the respondent should furnish the applicant with the copy of the Provisional Voters’ Roll as per this order is hereby determined to be no more than five working days following payment of the prescribed fees,” read part of the ruling on the High Court order dated 14 June 2018.

While chief elections officer Utloile Silaigwana said in a statement dated 28 May 2022 that the commission “will always make available copies of the voters’ roll upon request in accordance with the Electoral Act”, the ERC says efforts to get a copy have continually hit a brick wall.

“The voters’ roll is also a public document which, in any case, should also be available,” says Solomon Bobosibunu, the ERC programmes manager.

The commission should provide … any person who requests it, and who pays the prescribed fee, with a copy of any voters’ roll, including a consolidated roll, according to section 21 (3) of the Electoral Act.

Bobosibunu says the ERC is currently requesting Zec for a copy of the voters’ roll ahead of the delimitation exercise, a process that is proving to be an uphill task for the organisation.

“Its availability (voters’ roll) confirms transparency. It is important that we obtain the voters’ roll for the purposes of providing oversight on the entire process, which includes its compilation and upkeep,” Bobosibunu said.

He said Zec has been insincere in providing copies of the voters’ roll despite, in clear contravention of the Electoral Act.

“We have requested for it, and even if they say they give those requesting for it, we have not gotten the voters’ roll,” Bobosibunu said.

Bobosibunu said if Zec fails to furnish the ERC with the voters’ roll for inspection ahead of the delimitation exercise, the credibility of the process will be compromised.

“The electoral process will be shrouded in secrecy,” he said.

“The voters’ roll can never be a secret. It is a document that is meant for Zimbabweans.

“And the voters’ roll contains details that we need either to contest or support. So you don’t want people to be questioning the document because you are simply keeping it to yourself. The document must be provided as per procedure; we write for it, we pay the prescribed fee as provided for in the Electoral Act.”

The opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) says it us important for Zec to provide independent think-tanks with the voters’ roll as this enhances the credibility of the electoral process.

“The voters’ roll is a critical measure of any electoral integrity, hence denying anyone that legal entitlement is not only illegal but a violation of the citizens’ right to audit the country’s electoral systems and processes,” said Ellen Shiriyedenga, CCC deputy secretary for elections.

“Zec as a state institution has a specific public obligation to act in a transparent manner and respect the citizens’ political right to access information. If at all the voters’ roll is in a good state, then there is no reason why citizens should be denied a copy, unless otherwise.”

Meanwhile, Zec says verification of the voters’ roll can only be done by registered voters who are interested in checking on whether their details are correctly captured.

“Please note that the law does not provide for the independent audit of the voters’ roll hence the commission will not yield to any pressure exerted on it to act ultra vires its governing act,” said Silaigwana in a statement on 28 May.
