Mnangagwa Remembers & Rewards Forgotten Ally

By James Gwati-Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa has added Omega Hungwe to the Party’s highest decision-making body, the Politburo.

Mnangagwa added Hungwe’s name after he announced the names of new politburo members, including his wife, Auxilia, last week.

In November 2017, Hungwe was among the many Zanu PF members persecuted for working with Mnangagwa.

Mnangagwa, then, had been fired from the Party and Government by the former and late -President Robert Mugabe.

Mugabe had, then, lined Hungwe for dismissal from the Party.

Zanu PF Secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu

Cranborne Man Shoots Self Over Failing Mjolo

By-A 52-year-old New Cranborne man has shot himself to death over a divorce threat from his wife.

According to the state media, Pasipamire Kanyimo shot himself after his 46-year-old wife, only identified as Virginia, had threatened to divorce him.

An argument followed, forcing Kanyimo to manhandle his wife, Virginia, leaving her unconscious.

Kanyimo somehow believed that he had just murdered his wife, who was lying unconscious.

He hurriedly left the scene and shot himself to death on the left side of his head. Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident. Said Insp Chakanza:

Police are investigating a case involving a man believed to have shot himself to death in Cranborne.

Circumstances were that the wife had a misunderstanding with the now deceased”.

One of the house occupants said the now deceased told her that he was going to shoot himself and she ran to their neighbour for assistance.

On their return, they found the now deceased lying in a pool of blood.

In August this year, a 59-year-old Harare man shot himself once in the head with a gun at his house in Gunhill under unclear circumstances.

Suicide cases continue to increase countrywide with some attributing the rise to depression, a condition that has been prevalent in the country since the eruption of COVID-19.

The curvy spinner touched down in the neighbouring country on 28 December for a performance at Pabloz, an exclusive club in the capital.

The event she hosted and performed at was called Belair All-White Champagne Party.

Cyan touched down in Zim on Wednesday, looking simple but trendy. With no makeup on, she had a Gucci bucket hat, lime green tees, and grey leggings that accentuated her shapely figure. She also had lime Air Jordan 1 trainers to match the t-shirt.

She quickly dashed to the Harare International Conference Centre where she had a change of clothes and did not look hot.

Priceless Moments As Zim Leeds Community Launch Christmas Surprises For Vulnerable Elderly People

By A Correspondent | Leeds remains the city that’s produced key figures of the Zimbabwean community since Rhodesian days of Simba Makoni and Edson Zvobgo, down to the youngest. It was a busy day on Christmas eve- in the Zim Leeds Community.

on the job…the ZLC comprising 10 volunteers making their surprise visits

Every year since the days of the Rhodesian war, Zimbabweans have celebrated Christmas among families, and friends.

During this time, it’s easy for loneliness to hit many, especially those forgotten by community support groups.

The ZLC spent a whole 4 hours after descending onto the LS9 area, armed with large bags of gifts and groceries. Within 30min they are on their way and they reach the first person, a male elder.

It’s a last hour in the buzz of the Christmas rush and arriving at the first home, the ZLC meets an elderly wise man who shares his views on what the community should consider for growth and purpose in the area. “In all the politics around, isn’t it, this is our society?; We won’t and shouldn’t be sidetracked by the tag Zimbabwe or UK,” he says.

He continues saying, ” we first review the problems we have in our community and see what can be done with what we have; and this includes finding resources such as land in Zimbabwe, all over,” he adds as he also receives the Christmas gifts handed him. The elderly also shares with the team challenges that he has had recently with accommodation and other basic needs.

He also complains saying one of his problems is being housed with ex prisoners after which he is told that there are people who will soon be sent to him to assist where they can.

Another elderly, in a brief comment, commends the ZLC for the community efforts, while another (a 70y old mother to many) hints out at problems facing Zimbabweans in particular immigration issues.

Towards the end, an award winning famous Wymetro employee, is visited in a hospital. In Leeds he is a legend of decades who encountered health struggles 2 years ago. The latter is presented with gifts that include a pile of clothes and a variety of necessities. He communicates with his hands and while smiling to show his joy, he is deeply distressed when the ZLC announce they are now walking off after their half hour time with him. By this time engagements have included singing with him, and doing the things he likes, while also connecting him with his son who lives in Zimbabwe.

By this time, all the visited have taken time to feed back on what they expect the ZLC to do for them and others, and the ZLC heads back to their base.

Commenting, the ZLC Chairperson Chris Goshomi repeatedly assures the specials they should expect more visits as ZLC is there to ensure they are always valued.

“We would like you to know we are always there, and I shall leave you our numbers; I am the Chairperson, and we have ladies who handle various roles…” Goshomi says.

Speaking to ZimEye shortly after the visits, Goshomi describes the ZLC mission under a new tag phrase, saying it is “to live the home life away from home.”

Enisia Mashusha
Ruth Mutero
Roger Svovah
Fungai Mupezeni
Isaac Kurangwa
Lava Mundenda

Zanu PF Elites In Mutoko Lithium Looting Spree

By-Some Zanu PF elites and their runners are said to be looting and smuggling lithium in Mutoko.

This is happening when the Government has banned all exports of lithium ore from promoting local value addition and beneficiation of the mineral.

On Thursday, the Police announced they intercepted trucks with lithium ore in Mutoko.

The authorities did not disclose the owners of the intercepted Lithium laden trucks, bringing a strong suspicion that they could be Zanu PF bigwigs. The police consult the government whenever they want to arrest a prominent member of the ruling party, and it is when after such authority is granted that they go for that individual.

In this case, the police only said they kept the intercepted loads at Mutoko Central Police Station, without also disclosing the quantity of lithium in the trucks.

The Government recently claimed that potential revenue was being lost with illegal lithium mining and smuggling.
Lithium is processed in several steps with most global trade in lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide since the actual metal is highly reactive and bursts into flame on contact with water or in moist environments and corrodes very quickly in the air.
Mutoko villagers are reportedly selling lithium ore for between US$15 to US$20 per wheelbarrow load, or US$100 per tonne, to middlemen who would resell it for US$350 to US$450 a tonne.

Police Recover “Bloody” Knife From Murderous Pabloz Thugs

By- Police have recovered a knife from one of the two Harare hooligans, which they used to stab another bouncer at Pabloz Night Club in Borrowdale last weekend to come forward.

The two were arrested Thursday and charged with attempted murder.

Gideon Sanyangore, 32, and Blessing Kumunda, 36, were arrested following a public outcry after a video of them threatening to stab a Pabloz bouncer and assaulting patrons went viral on social media.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the arrest and urged everyone assaulted by the two scamps to come forward.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police would like to confirm the arrest of two suspects in connection with an incident that took place at a night club recently in Borrowdale,” said Ass Comm Nyathi.
“The two are facing attempted murder charges. An okapi knife used to stab one of the complainants was recovered from one of the suspects,” he said.
Ass Comm Nyathi urged night club owners to make sure all activities at their premises are carried out peacefully at all times.
Blessing Kumunda
Gideon and Blessing are expected to appear in court today.
Music promoters, night club owners and revellers complained about the conduct of the two bouncers after reports of their Pabloz attack.
Another video clip was posted on social media showing one of the bouncers splashing a patron with beer in the face before clapping him unprovoked at Mashwede in Glen View.
The two bouncers were banned from most entertainment events, but they had been using force to man entrances and collect gate charges, which they pocketed, boasting that they were untouchable.
Ass-Comm Nyathi also warned people to celebrate peacefully and safely on New Year’s eve, saying those that endanger other people’s lives by lighting fire crackers would be arrested.
He further urged parents and guardians to closely monitor young children, especially girls, as they could easily become victims of rape during the celebrations.
He also warned on the abuse of drugs.

Soccer Legend Pele Dies

Pelé, the Brazilian virtuoso whose captivating skill and athleticism ensured he was universally regarded as one of football’s greatest players, has died at the age of 82.

Pelé, who had a colon tumour removed in 2021, was readmitted to Albert Einstein hospital in São Paulo in November amid deteriorating health. A hospital statement on Thursday confirmed the death of “our dear King of Football” at 3.27pm local time, “due to the failure of multiple organs, a result of the progression of cancer of colon associated with his previous clinical condition.”

A statement from Pelé’s official Instagram page added: “Inspiration and love marked the journey of King Pelé, who peacefully passed away today. On his journey, Edson enchanted the world with his genius in sport, stopped a war, carried out social works all over the world and spread what he most believed to be the cure for all our problems: love. His message today becomes a legacy for future generations. Love, love and love, forever.”

After reports he was receiving end-of-life care, Pelé said he felt “strong, with a lot of hope” in a social media post on 3 December. A further statement from the hospital on 21 December reported that Pelé “requires further care related to renal and cardiac dysfunctions” after the “progression” of his colon cancer. Social media posts from his daughter Kely Nascimento showed that family members had gathered at the hospital to spend Christmas with him.

Brazil’s joint all-time record scorer won three World Cups as a player, in 1958, 1962 and 1970, over a 14-year international career that included 77 goals in 92 appearances for his country. Nicknamed “the Black Pearl” and “the King”, Pelé was one of only three players to have scored in four World Cups. In 1,363 games, he scored 1,281 goals, at the time of his retirement in 1977 more than twice as many as his nearest challenger.

It was the 1970 World Cup triumph for which he will be best celebrated, the linchpin of a beguiling team that included Carlos Alberto, Jairzinho, Gérson, Tostão and Rivelino that swept through Mexico, his canary yellow No 10 shirt becoming an icon of the sport.

World Soccer described Brazil’s 1970 winners as “more than a team”, adding: “The Brazilian side that won the 1970 World Cup in such style have become a myth, a team to be held up as the ultimate exponents of the beautiful game.” Pelé was their figurehead and inspiration.

Brazil’s government declared three days of mourning and the arch at Wembley Stadium was lit in the colours of Brazil, while icons of sport and heads of state bowed to the man who rose up from childhood poverty to become a legend. The Guardian

Chinamasa blasts listing of 13-year-old daughter

When the United States announced the sanctioning of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son earlier this month, it also revealed the names of 17 individuals who had been removed from the list of Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons (SDN).

Emmerson Junior was added to the SDN together with the wife and associates of business tycoon Kudakwashe Tagwirei and two private companies Fossil Agro and Fossil Contracting.

The sanctions review also saw the removal of 17 individuals from the SDN list with the United States saying they “were found no longer to undermine Zimbabwe’s democratic processes and institutions or to otherwise meet the criteria for designation”.

Prominent names among those removed include former ministers Ignatius Chombo, Nicholas Goche, Jason Machaya as well as the wife of ex-Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor Gideon Gono.

Also included was the daughter of former cabinet minister and now Zanu PF Finance boss Patrick Chinamasa.

Zanu PF secretary for finance Patrick Chinamasa
Commenting on the development on Twitter, Chinamasa expressed outrage that his daughter, Gamuchirai, has been hit with sanctions when she was just 13 years old.

“The United States Authorities imposed sanctions against Gamuchirai when she was only 13 years old. Someone needs to explain to me how a 13 year old girl child can pose a threat to the global security interests of the sole World Super Power, the Mighty USA,” said Chinamasa on Twitter.

“Further someone needs to explain not only to me but to the Wider World how a 13 year old girl child can be sanctioned on the basis that she violated human rights. I am sure Hopewell Chin’ono can help explain.

“Ndinoyambira (I wish to advise) political activists who are on the beck and call of Western Countries not to swallow hook, sinker and line the propaganda churned out by Western Imperial Forces on the subject of Human Rights. They don’t mean what they say .They don’t practise what they tell you.”

Meanwhile in a statement accompanying the sanctions review, the US said; “…sanctions are not intended to be permanent but to incentivize changes in behaviour. Each removal is based on a thorough review and is part of an ongoing effort to keep the sanctions program current, focused, and relevant.

“Maintaining the integrity of U.S. sanctions is the driving principle behind a rigorous review process that evaluates every request for removal individually on its merits and applies consistent standards to all of them.”

The statement added; “We again call on the Zimbabwean government to take meaningful steps towards addressing the root causes of many of Zimbabwe’s ills, including corrupt elite and their abuse of the country’s institutions for their personal gain.

“Ahead of the 2023 elections, it is imperative to ensure Zimbabweans have the opportunity to vote elections that are free from violence, repression, and electoral manipulation.”

Injury restricted his contribution to Brazil’s triumph in 1962 in Chile but he was player of the tournament eight years later, as Brazil assembled one of the greatest sides of all time and lifted the Jules Rimet trophy in Mexico thanks to a 4-1 win over Italy in which Pele scored the opening goal.
That goal makes him one of only five players to have scored in two World Cup finals and, thanks to his exploits in 1958, he remains the youngest player to have netted a goal at the tournament.
In total, Pele scored 12 goals in 14 World Cup appearances and also provided 10 assists – the most by any player in the history of the competition, and a reminder that he was much more than a goalscorer.`
It was his spectacular scoring feats, though, that made him a Santos legend at club level.
Pele holds his hometown side’s all-time goal record and helped them to two Copa Libertadores titles and six Brazilian league crowns during a glittering 18-year spell with the club.
Pele, who scored 1,281 goals in 1,363 games for club and country during his career, ended his playing days at New York Cosmos and retired from football in 1977.
After retiring, Pele acted as an ambassador for football. In 2013, he was awarded the FIFA Ballon d’Or Prix d’Honneur in recognition of his career and achievements. In 2020, he was named in the Ballon d’Or Dream Team, a greatest of all-time XI.

Zanu PF Connected Thugs Loot Lithium

By-Some politically connected elites are looting and smuggling lithium in Mutoko.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police Thursday announced they intercepted trucks with lithium ore in Mutoko.

This is happening at a time the Government has banned all exports of lithium ore from promoting local value addition and beneficiation of the mineral.

According to the Herald, the intercepted loads are stored at Mutoko Central Police Station.
The publication did not disclose the quantity of lithium that was in the trucks.

Mbappe Responds To Martinez Remarks

Kylian Mbappe has responded to Emiliano Martinez’s taunts following Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup triumph in Qatar this month.

The South Americans beat Les Bleus on penalties after a thrilling 3-3 draw in which Mbappe scored a hat-trick for the French side.

During the after-match celebrations, Martinez mocked the PSG striker by calling for a ‘moment of silence’ in the dressing room.

The Aston Villa goalkeeper then made another trolling during the open-top bus parade in Argentina by holding a baby doll with Mbappe’s face on it.

Hands Off Moreblessing Ali Remains

Justice for Moreblessing Ali! #WiwaWednesday.

28 December 2022

It is quite alarming to hear that the remains of the gruesomely murdered CCC activist, Moreblessing Ali are being buried in Mabvuku Harare without the consent of her immediate family members such as children and blood relatives. This must be resisted with equal measure, it is satanic to continue torturing the soul of the deceased in that manner. Her immediate family is unaware of the proceedings according to the information disseminated by our change champions on the ground.

The immediate Ali family confirmed that they were informed during yesternight that Moreblessing Ali was going to be buried today in Mabvuku. The closest relatives are in extreme shock because they expected to continue from where they left in June when Moreblessing was murdered by Pius Jamba, a thug linked to ZANU-PF. There is a great likelihood that these distant family connived with killers, maybe they were given cash to sell out. One of the closest relatives clarified that they did not even know where the remains of their mother were.

Reliable sources say , Moreblessing Ali’s remains were taken from Parirenyatwa Hospital yesterday. The family is still in serious shock and they intended to take the DNA tests so that they could confirm if they were burying their authentic relative. Citizens in Namibia demand justice for Moreblessing Ali. It is uncouth and untraditional to bypass blood relatives at burials, a bad omen is loading. Tormenters must face justice! They can’t continue to abduct the remains after killing our champion in Nyatsime.

Let’s amplify our revolutionary voices against the weaponization of the law and the subsequent capture of all state institutions.

Allow Moreblessing Ali’s close relatives to bury her not this nicodemus funeral of our champion. The truth of the matter is that ZANU-PF is afraid of the vibrant and pragmatic interim Vice Chairperson, Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala. We shall continue to demand justice for Job Sikhala, Moreblessing Ali, and all prisoners of conscience.

Allow Silent, Mob’s firstborn to sign the burial papers for his mother like before.

Allow Citizens Coalition for Change to mourn one of their late diligent soldier, Moreblessing Ali who was butchered for subscribing to the change that delivers. Justice for Mob! Justice for Job Saro Wiwa Sikhala.

Madzibaba Enock Kidnapping and Assault Case :Police Accused of ‘Sleeping on Duty’

” The 3 are always seen patronising at Budiriro 4 shops but the IO, Chafa from Law and Order is saying they are not around. Clearly, he is sleeping on duty,” said a source close to the development.

Efforts to get a comment from the Investigating Officer hit a snag.

“CCC Will Win 2023, I Will Be Minister,” Chibaya Celebrates 2023 Ahead Of Polls

“CCC will win 2023, I will be Minister and you ambassadors” Chibaya tells diasporans elections.

By Nomusa Garikai | Amos Chibaya, CCC national organising secretary, told his audience in Birmingham that CCC will win the 2023 elections and they should prepare a skills data base. The CCC led government will appoint them ambassadors, Permanent Secretaries, etc. He will be minister of local government minister.
It was sweet music to Zimbabwe diasporans; they swallowed the bait, hook, line and sinker! How naïve; Zanu PF is rigging these elections and they have done nothing to stop the rigging and are, instead, sharing out the spoils of the imaginary electoral victory!
Amos Chibaya and other CCC party leaders are in UK on mission to raise funds for the upcoming 2023 elections. No doubt the hooked diasporans will loosen up their purses and bankroll the party’s campaign.
Whatever skills these men and women in the diaspora have, it certainly does not include common sense. The common sense to realise that Zimbabwe’s elections are a farce and the number one challenge is to put an end to the insanity of participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy.
The great physicist, Albert Einstein said insanity of doing something over and over again expecting a different result. Zimbabweans have been participating in these flawed and illegal elections; so, flawed that in the March 2008 MDC garnered 73% of the votes and still failed to win power; for 42 years and still expect a different result. If that is not proof of collective insanity, what is!
Zanu PF is rigging the 2023 elections just as blatantly as it has rigged elections in the past. There evidence of the rigging is there for all to see. Last year Patrick Chinamasa, then Acting Zanu PF spokesperson, announced that the Zanu PF government will not honour Mnangagwa’s promise in 2018 to grant diaspora vote “as long as the sanctions imposed by the West remain.” The sanctions include travel ban on some Zanu PF leaders and thus putting the regime at an unfair electoral disadvantage as regarding winning the diaspora votes. All nonsense, of course.
The right to a meaningful say in the governance of one’s country is an inalienable right enshrined in the UN Universal Human Rights Declaration. To deny Zimbabweans in the diaspora their fundamental right because Zanu PF has a quarrel with the West is an outrage. What man in his right mind would quarrel with his neighbour and take it on his wife and children? No society would ever tolerate such barbarism!
Even if we were to accept the argument that Zanu PF would be at an electoral disadvantage because its big gunners will not campaign freely in these Western nations that have imposed travel ban. Why is the regime denying the vote to those Zimbabweans in neighbouring SADC countries and beyond which have not imposed any sanctions on the regime?
The truth of the matter is Zanu PF denying those in the diaspora the vote for two reasons:
1) Many of the Zimbabweans in the diaspora are there as economic and/or political refugees and they blame Zanu PF misrule for their situation. It is obvious many of them would therefore not vote for Zanu PF.
2) Zanu PF has corrupted all the country’s state institutions including ZEC, Police, Army, etc. giving the regime total controls of every aspect of election process and with it the unlimited opportunity to rig elections. Still, rigging elections is dirty work and the party has not always succeeded in the dirty work under wraps as in the 2008 elections. Zanu PF would have to rig the diaspora vote and keeping that a secrete would be near impossible. Denying those in the diaspora the vote was by far the easier option than rigging that vote!
There are 3 million adult Zimbabweans in the diaspora, using Zanu PF’s own figure; a very significant number given Mnangagwa won the 2018 elections with 2.4 million votes. So, the diaspora vote constitutes 37% of the potential 8 million voters.
How can the elections be free, fair and credible when one contestant is allowed to cherry pick the voters and deny 37% the vote?
So, if Amos Chibaya and his fellow CCC leaders had any common sense they would be fighting tooth and nail to secure the 3 million in the diaspora have a vote. Indeed, should have implemented the necessary reforms to guarantee diaspora vote during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. They failed to implement even one reform in five years.
Whilst SADC and many in the international community were outraged by MDC leaders’ failure to implement reforms and deserted MDC in droves. Many Zimbabweans, including those in the diaspora, did not even realise the primary purpose of the GNU was to implement reforms. Even now with the benefit of hindsight many Zimbabweans still have no clue what the GNU was for much less that MDC leaders sold out big time!
Zimbabwe is a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent and murderous Zanu PF thugs who have rigged elections to stay in power. Zimbabwe has become the textbook case of a failed state ruled by men and women whose greed for power and loot is insatiable. They are blind to the common sense reality that without rule of law the nation is doomed.
It is the corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF thugs who have landed us into this economic and political mess. It is the equally corrupt, incompetent and utterly useless MDC/CCC leaders who have wasted many golden opportunities to end the Zanu PF dictatorship and kept us stuck in the mess. The nation has been looking to its intelligentsia to finally get us out of this hell-on-earth of our own making.
The overwhelming majority of Zimbabwe’s so-called intelligentsia are in the diaspora and judging from the glassy-eyed reaction to Chibaya’s idiotic offer of ambassadorship, etc.; the intelligentsia are just as naïve, gullible, and greedy as the political leaders. They don’t even have the common sense to know it is insane to be sharing the spoils of election victory when Zanu PF still enjoy the carte blanche powers to rig elections; especially after 42 years of rigged elections!
“CCC will win the 2023 elections, I will be Minister of Local Government and you will be appointed ambassadors and Permanent Secretaries!” How presumptuous especial when Chibaya and co wasted the golden opportunity to secure diaspora vote implement reforms and secure diaspora vote. Zanu PF is rigging the 2023 elections, that is the reality! –

Chiwenga Pays Tribute To Josiah Tongogara

The legacy of the late iconic National Hero and Zanla commander General Josiah Magama Tongogara continues to live on with the nation yesterday commemorating the top Zanla military commander of the liberation war.

Relatives, friends, colleagues and senior Government officials yesterday converged at the National Heroes Acre to commemorate the 43nd anniversary of his death.

The late Gen Tongogara was born on February 4, 1938 in Shurugwi and died on Boxing Day in 1979 in a vehicle accident in Mozambique, soon after the Lancaster House Agreement that gave birth to independent Zimbabwe.

All the speakers, who included family members, colleagues and Government officials, emphasised the need for keeping Gen Tongogara’s vision alive.

He waged the war against the settler regime for liberation and the creation of a non-racial society.

Acting President Dr Constantino Chiwenga yesterday said the legacy left by Gen Tongogara is recognised through his immense role in the fight for the liberation of the country.

“To be where we are today it is because of that intelligent and brilliant commander, he foresaw things that we did not see ourselves at that time, that yes we are fighting but one day we will be free.

“He was very aware that he would not see the new Zimbabwe, that he would not see the independent Zimbabwe.

“He would always say well lets fight, the day l go is the day you are going to be free. We don’t know why, because he had a prophetic mind. It was unfortunate that he died on that fateful day,” he said.

Acting President Chiwenga also urged youths to love the country and defend it at all costs, urging them to desist from drug and alcohol abuse.

“The youths of today must know that what they are is what we were and what we are is what they shall be. This country was liberated by the youths.

“Imagine when General Tongo died, he was 41 so he was in his prime of youth and he commanded the liberation of this country.

“When he took command of Zanla he was still in his youthful days so the youths of today must emulate what the predecessors did. To be principled, to love one’s country and to defend it at all cost, leave all things which are not going to help in the reconstruction of our country.

“Today we are battling trying to stop youths from drug abuse and alcohol. All these things must be stopped. We want the youths to build Zimbabwe. That is all we want,” he said.

Earlier on in a speech read on his behalf by the Defence and War Veteran Affairs Minister Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri at Heroes Acre, Acting President Chiwenga said Gen Tongogara’s good works will always be remembered as he played a critical part in the liberation of the country.

“The Second Republic appreciates the efforts which Cde Tongogara made to liberate the country. This day is a day to celebrate independence as the late son of the soil died fighting for the cause of liberating Zimbabweans from the hands of the oppressors.

“We want to thank our Government from the time we got independence in 1980 until today. Our President Cde Mnangagwa keeps on reminding us where we came from and to follow our dignity as Zimbabweans. Let us remember our freedom fighters who liberated the country.

“We give respect to our freedom fighters through giving their names to schools, roads and other places. We also want to thank Senator Angeline Tongogara for encouraging the nation to ensure that Cde Tongogara is remembered for his wonderful works of liberating the country.

“Some were left at Chimoio, but because of his wisdom and bravery and courage, today we are celebrating independence.

“He also wanted to ensure that black people have identity and dignity so that we have pride for our nation.

“Peace and unity was his major emphasis,” she said.

The widow of General Tongogara, Sen Angelina Tongogara, described her husband as a rare breed who would easily adapt to situations.

“Everyone liked him. I was blessed to marry this man. I thank God for uniting me with this person.

“When he was at home, you would not think that he was a soldier or a commander for that matter. He would easily adapt to the family situation to become a father and husband,” said Senator Tongogara.

Gen Tongogara’s eldest son, Hondo, highlighted that there was a need to preserve his father’s legacy.

“He did not just fight for us as a family, but for every Zimbabwean. There is therefore need to preserve that legacy and it is the legacy that is going to drive Zimbabwe,” he said.

Nyaradzo Tongogara, the youngest in the family said she is grateful to all guests who helped them to celebrate the day.

“This is a very important day not to the family members but to the whole nation. His role in liberating the country is greatly appreciated,” she said.

Josiah Magama Tongogara Legacy Foundation board member Webster Shamu said Gen Tongogara wanted democracy and liberation of the country.

“He wanted peace and unity among Zimbabweans. This is moving towards our President’s vision of leaving no one behind. He was against tribalism,” he said.

Zanu PF Deputy Secretary for National Security in Politburo Cde Tendai Chirau said commemorating such heroes is very important as it helps to safeguard the legacy.

“To some of us who were born after independence, we can say that this is a big lesson. He was a man who was committed to the liberation of this country.

“It is important for our generations to consolidate the legacy and safeguard what he fought for. What is important is that when he was fighting he was young and made sure that they dismantled colonialism,” he said.

Champions League Returns 2023

After an amazing group stage, we will have the Champions League returning in February of 2023 with a group of 16 ready. Everyone was watching the World Cup in the December of 2022, and it was definitely full of emotions for the players, so we don’t know how it will affect them when it comes to other competitions. Leagues are also about to start, so they will have to get ready for the upcoming season.

There are teams from all the major leagues, so you can prepare your CL tips while making the Bundesliga predictions where three teams will be joining the champions league, including Bayern, Dortmund, and Leipzig. There isn’t any clear favorite to win the league, but after the WC, many fans are on the PSG side, considering that Mbappe did an amazing job carrying France to the finals and Messi won it for the first time.

Both Mbappe and Messi will be ready for the season, but it’s hard to estimate what the atmosphere is like in the club. Besides PSG, there are a few more favorites that will have the chance to play against them.

14 February
Two games are played on each game day, and the first one is between Milan and Tottenham. The odds are on the side of Milan, but that might change as we come near the game day because Tottenham is performing well considering their state. Milan is slowly getting back on track, being second in Serie A, but they probably won’t win the title.

The second game is between PSG and Bayern, which is a derby of the round of 16. Everyone is eager to see how Messi and Mbappe will play together and potentially win the Champions League title. Bayern is always among the Bundesliga picks as the team with the most wins each season.

15 February
On Wednesday, you can watch the two most underrated teams on the group stage, including Club Brugge and Benfica. Club Brugge barely made it out of the group stage, but they are for sure one of the most motivated teams to play in CL. The casinos are still giving the advantage to Benfica. They are always at the top of the table in Portugal, so it shouldn’t be a hard match for them.

Dortmund and Chelsea will collide in the second match, which will be very interesting to watch because Chelsea is doing a poor job in the league, and this is a great chance for them to get back on their feet. Dortmund is among the top Bundesliga predictions today, but they have issues with players.

21 February
The second most anticipated match will be between Liverpool and Real Madrid. The clash that happened in the finals last year is now in favor of Liverpool, according to the bookmakers. The same players that played for Real Madrid will be playing now, so everything can be expected. Liverpool isn’t in the top 5 of the Premier League, so things are pretty unstable with them again.

Frankfurt vs. Napoli is the second match of the day, and, surprisingly, everyone is giving low odds on Frankfurt, considering how well Napoli is playing. Napoli is at the top of Serie A, and they did a fantastic job in the group stage.

22 February
The last day of the group of 16 brings one of the favorites, Manchester City playing against Leipzig, which is doing great in the league. Leipzig is in the top 3 of the Bundesliga table, but Bayern will most likely take the title. On the other hand, Manchester City isn’t at the top like the last year because Arsenal made a surprise and is in first place in Premier League.

Inter and Porto will clash in the last match, and we probably won’t see too many goals with these teams. Inter has an attacking playstyle, but Porto is exceptional with their defense so it will be a hard match with many yellow cards.- My Zimbabwe News

92 Die In Road Accidents

At least 92 people were killed in a total 1,285 road traffic accidents recorded in Zimbabwe between 15 and 26 December 2022, according to police Tuesday.

Of the deaths recorded, 13 occurred on Christmas Day.

At least 69 of the accidents were fatal.

According to police, the number of fatalities increased by 20 after 72 deaths were recorded during the same period last year.

At least 333 people were also injured this year in the same road traffic accidents which happened during the period which covers Unity Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day holidays.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said most of the accidents involved private vehicles.

“On Unity Day, 22nd December 2022, a total of 107 road traffic accidents were recorded countrywide, and three of the accidents were fatal, where three people died while 27 others were injured.

“In 2021, 144 road traffic accidents were recorded, with seven being fatal, killing 10 people while 26 others were injured.

“On Christmas Day, 25th December 2022, a total of 119 road traffic accidents were recorded countrywide, with 10 being fatal, killing 13 people and injuring 89, compared to 187 road traffic accidents recorded during the same period in 2021, with 10 fatal which killed 13 people and injured 35 others,” he said.

Police said on Boxing Day, 88 road traffic accidents were recorded countrywide, 15 being fatal and 16 people killed while 19 others were injured.

In 2021, 103 traffic accidents were recorded, with five being fatal, seven people killed while 29 others injured.

Nyathi attributed the road traffic accidents to reckless driving.

“Most of the road traffic accidents occurred on highways as a result of speeding, overtaking errors, inattention, misjudgment, following too close and recklessness on the part of drivers, who in most of the accidents recorded were trying to overtake in situations which were not safe do so, encroached onto the lane of oncoming traffic, straddle centre lane, showed clear poor observation and control of the vehicles resulting in some hitting pedestrians who were walking on the side of the roads or standing at bus stops,” Nyathi said.

The police spokesperson said private vehicles topped the number of accidents recorded so far.

“However, the police is concerned with the number of private vehicles involved in accidents during this holiday. Some of them will be overloaded while others are being used for purposes which are clearly not suitable for such use.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges drivers to be cautious and promote safety on the roads as the holiday continues. There is no need for one to be over-excited or reckless on the roads.

“The police will continue with the current deployment level on the roads and communities till the 15th of January 2023.”

Whites Arrested For Bashing Black Teenagers At A Pool

By- Police in the Free-State province have arrested three Whites who beat up two black teenagers for using a local pool.

A thirteen and 18-year-old were attacked by a group of white men at the resort on Christmas Day at Maselspoort Resort outside Bloemfontein.
It is alleged the white men tried to prevent the teens from using the swimming pool at the resort.
The alleged racist attack, filmed by their sister Tumii Frost and posted on Twitter, has sparked widespread condemnation from the community, government, and political parties.
While police have confirmed they are investigating charges of common assault, the teens’ father Brian Nakedi told The Citizen authorities should be investigating attempted murder charges.
Ramaphosa has commended the South African Police Service for opening dockets and launching investigations into the case of suspected racism.
“As black and white South Africans, we should be united in condemning all manifestations of racism and attempts to explain or defend such crimes.
“Racism is not a problem to be fought by black South Africans only.”
“We must also be united in ridding our society of the violence we see in the videos of the incident at the Free State resort, whether such violence comes with racism or not,” the president said.
Ramaphosa added that there is no place for grown men attacking children in South Africa.
“It is deplorable that adults dealing with teenagers resort to violence with such disturbing ease, hurting people physically and offending provisions in our Bill of Rights around security of the person, including the right to dignity and being free of violence.”
Ramaphosa said racism in South Africa must end.
“Under the rule of law, we must let investigations take their course but under the rule of law we can and must also declare that racism has no place in our society and racists have no place to hide.
“We must defend our continuing national mission of ridding our society of the divisions and the hurts of our past,” Ramaphosa said. — The Citizen.

Mbappe Salutes Messi

By- French football star Kylian Mbappe has saluted Argentina’s soccer legend, Lionel Messi.

In a post circulating on social media Mbappe said he was learning from Messi:

Kylian Mbappe on Messi:
“We will be fine with Leo. Very fine. I scored two penalties and 3rd one. He scored one and the 2nd one.
He was doing his job in Qatar and I was doing mine too.”
“His job is to help me to be as successful as he is. He told me and I believe in him with all the supply he gives to me and us”
“He always speaks about it. That football is easy’. If you have noticed I am also making things to look easy. I can’t bite the hand that feeds me because of the media.”
“I’m learning a lot from this old man. We level at 1-1 in terms of world cup, but he is miles ahead on everything, my job is to listen to him no matter what.”

SA Keeps ZEP Holders In Suspense

By-Zimbabweans in South Africa have expressed mixed feelings as the Zimbabwe Exemption Permit (ZEP) facility is left six months before the extension expiry.

The South African government announced its terminating the ZEPs in June 2023.

This decision will affect about 180 000 Zimbabweans residing in that country.

As early as October, the Zimbabwean government announced that it was prepared for its nationals who were coming home to start a new life and would assist them with transport and other logistics.

Statistics from the Home Affairs department suggest that there has been a low uptake of other visa facilities amid reports that some Zimbabweans are looking for jobs abroad as caregivers and elementary school teachers.

On average, more than 12 000 people are entering Zimbabwe through Beitbridge daily during the festive season.

Between 5-10 December, 62 770 people entered Zimbabwe through the Beitbridge border.

South Africa’s head of immigration at the border, Cannie Magaya, told News24 that although they had no figures yet, on the days leading up to Christmas, there had been an increase in traffic.

She said it could stay like that until early January when people start returning to South Africa.

Brian Moyo, a Zimbabwean working as a teacher in SA, didn’t apply for the special skills visa because he felt it was a waste of time.

While he is going back home in early January, he has set his sights on jobs in China. He said:

I teach English and that’s not a special skill. I stood a chance as a science or mathematics teacher, as such, applying for other visas was a waste of time for me.

Moyo who taught at some private schools back home before migrating to South Africa feels his experience there could help him in China.

Salaries for teaching jobs in China range from R70 000 to R120 000, depending on the type of school and level of experience.

Another opportunity will come into effect in March when the United Kingdom opens up for teachers from South Africa, Ghana, Zimbabwe and Nigeria.

Working in South Africa has also become very difficult for those spending their money in Zimbabwe because of the rand’s volatility against the US dollar, the preferred currency of trade.

During the festive season, R100 is the equivalent of $5.80, but most shops or businesses only value it at $5.

Steven Tshuma, another Zimbabwean based in South Africa said he is starting a nurse aid course with the Red Cross in SA early next year to capacitate him to work in Canada or Australia.

Tshuma who works at a restaurant and has come face to face with members of Operation Dudula – a vigilante group that intimidates migrants, says he has no excuse to be in South Africa as Dudula “could burn us alive.”

By the end of October, fewer than 10% of ZEP holders had applied for the available mainstream visas.

An estimated 180 000 ZEP holders will be affected by the 30 June 2023 deadline set by the government.

Shiela Ncube, a domestic worker in Johannesburg, has no plans of leaving the country.

She hopes her boss will find a way around the system to keep her in SA.

She has been with the family for close to a decade.

Asked about looking for housekeeping jobs abroad, she replied: “No way.”

Chamisa Aide Dies

By- The opposition CCC’s Manicaland Elections Director Gabriel Chiwara has died.

Chiwara died Tuesday of an electric shock from a fault that occurred while at work.

“We are sorry for losing Sekuru, we hear he got electrocuted following a fault in the ceiling; so it was discovered later after failing to return home; so this how we hear it all happened,” an unnamed nephew said in a voice message.
Further details were not available at the time of writing.

Chidzambwa Defends Billiat

Former Warriors coach Sunday Chidzambwa believes the criticism on Khama Billiat’s performance is misplaced as there are many factors to be considered.

The Zimbabwean forward is yet to reach his full potential since arriving at the Soweto Giants in 2018. He hasn’t scored this term, having made eleven appearances across all competitions.

This inconsistency has often attracted criticism on Billiat whose deal is set to expire at the end of the season though the club has an option to extend it with another year.

But Chidzambwa has defended his countryman, highlighting how Kaizer Chiefs are also struggling as a team.

“People have different views. I even see a lot has been said and written about him,” Chidzambwa told FarPost.co.za.

“[Billiat] may be approaching the final months of his contract, but from the way I see it, it’s not about him. It’s a team issue. They say he has not done enough to win trophies for the team in comparison to what he did at Sundowns.

“But to be honest, these are two different teams. They have different sets of players and certainly a different level of dedication.

“When it’s time for Chiefs to win, they can win, but it can never be narrowed to a single player. When it’s time, they can do it with him.”

Chidzambwa added: “The circumstances are not favouring him. If I was his coach, I would play him to his strengths. He is good at assisting and even scoring.

“Even If I was at the national team [Zimbabwe], I would make sure to call him back from retirement.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Latest On Benzema, Deschamps Feud

Karim Benzema’s agent, Karim Djaziri, has hit out at France coach Didier Deschamps for lying about the superstar’s injury that ruled the striker out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Benzema was forced to head home after picking up a thigh issue on the eve of the tournament.

The striker reportedly needed just days of treatment, but Deschamps refused to bring him back to the squad as the competition progressed.

This left Benzema unhappy as he wanted to stay with the France squad, which would have given him a chance to participate in the World Cup.

As a result, the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner snubbed an invite from France president Emmanuel Macron to watch the final against Argentina, and he subsequently announced his retirement from international football.

The 35-year-old’s agent has now posted on Social Media to reveal more details about the fallout while blasting France boss Deschamps.

He also shared an apparent proof that the striker was fit to feature from the last 16 onwards.

Djaziri said: “I put that there, but before that, I consulted three specialists who confirmed the diagnosis that Benzema could have been fit from the last 16 to at least be on the bench!

“Why did you ask him to leave so quickly?”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Chinamasa Daughter Hit With Sanctions

IN FULL: List of people removed from US sanctions;

BREAKING: Police Rush To Bury Moreblessing Ali Despite Sikhala Imprisonment

By A Correspondent | “What’s this horror we are hearing here in Chitungwiza, where a large crowd of police officers have flooded as we also hear that Moreblessing Ali has been buried?,” a circulating audio message stated on Wednesday morning.

Moreblessing Ali

At a time when her lawyer, Job Sikhala is in prison, the slain 46-year-old mother of 2, Moreblessing Ali’s remains are being forcibly buried Wednesday morning following police orders.

Ali was killed during incidents after leaving a bar at Chibhanguza Shopping Centre on May 24 when she was abducted allegedly by a ZANU PF activist, Pius Jamba.

Her decomposing body was found dumped in a ZANU PF leader Simba Chisango (Jamba’s mother)’s mother’s well at Dunnoter farm in Beatrice.

Her brother, Washington tells of his distress following the move saying even the ZANU PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been sending people to complain that he wanted to meet Moreblessing’s son, Silence and everywhere he would go, people were being asked by authorities concerning his whereabouts.

“We later had to put him into hiding, because anyone moving with him was ending up being followed.”

Washington Ali explains saying the reason Mnangagwa is after his nephew is “delays in burying his mother are affecting Mnangagwa’s political campaigns; everywhere he flies out, he is being asked about Moreblessing,” he says.

While exact details of the burial were not clear, Ali told ZimEye, “I am not sure maybe she has already been buried right now. I spoke to Nyasha. They came to the house last night saying they want to bury Moreblessing today.

“Yesterday morning I had received messages asking me, what is happening, because we are hearing that Moreblessing is being buried tomorrow.

“My brothers are unreachable. Solomon (Ali) is saying a large crowd of cousins arrived at the homestead today.

“It’s not the first time they are doing this. Some of my brothers are doing this.

“I asked why they want to bury her when so many people are in trouble because of her death. Job Sikhala is in jail because of her, but they are just interested in the body.

“Someone later told me that there is a certain police DEO Ngodzo who phoned saying she received orders from a group of police colleagues who say that Moreblessing must be buried today.

“I got calls from a reporter asking how true it is that Moreblessing’s remains are being buried today.

“The only person I got in touch with was Solo, who was saying the slain’s daughter Nyasha says she cannot be part of this.

“Even my mother says she does not know anything about the plans to bury her.”

At the time of writing, Mnangagwa’s spokesperson George Charamba was still to comment over the allegations that his boss has been sending emissaries. – THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY

Chinamasa Still Angry Over Daughter’s Inclusion On Sanctions List

Zanu PF Secretary for Finance, Patrick Antony Chinamasa is still a bitter man over the inclusion of his then 13-year-old Daughter on the United States sanctions list.

Chinamasa’s daughter Gamuchirai has since been removed from the list but the former Finance and Justice minister is still looking for answers why she was included when she was just a mere 13-year old girl.

Posting on Twitter, Chinamasa quizzed how a 13-year old person could be a threat to global security especially of America with all its mighty power.

“Monday the 12 December 2022 Gamuchirai my daughter brought to my attention a Social Media report indicating that the United States Authorities had removed her name from the OFAC Sanctions List. This event cannot pass without my comment.

“The United States Authorities imposed sanctions against Gamuchirai when she was only 13 years old. Someone needs to explain to me how a 13 year old girl child can pose a threat to the global security interests of the sole World Super Power, the Mighty USA,” said Chinamasa.

“Further someone needs to explain not only to me but to the Wider World how a 13 year old girl child can be sanctioned on the basis that she violated human rights. I am sure Hopewell Chin’ono can help explain.

“Ndinoyambira political activists who are on the beck and call of Western Countries not to swallow hook, sinker and line the propaganda churned out by Western Imperial Forces on the subject of Human Rights. They don’t mean what they say .They don’t practise what they tell you,” added Chinamasa.

Mwonzora Says He Is Better Than Chamisa, Mnangagwa

By-The leader of the MDC, Douglas Mwonzora, said that he would rule Zimbabwe better than it is in the hands of Zanu PF.

He also said he was prepared to perform more than any other party if elected in the next year’s election.

In his Christmas Day message, Mwonzora, who is yet to contest in any election since taking over leadership of MDC from Thokozani Khupe at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, said:

I know that there are many of us who are stressed regarding what to spend on Christmas because the money and resources are not there.

Please take heart in the fact that the new government led by the MDC is coming.

It is a social-democratic government that is going to bring prosperity and end the suffering of Zimbabweans, and peace for the people of Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe is currently experiencing a high rate of inflation, exchange rate volatility, the erosion of salaries for those with jobs and a high rate of unemployment.

Mwonzora was recently elected uncontested to represent the MDC at next year’s elections.

He will likely face CCC president Nelson Chamisa and ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa in the race for the highest political office in the land. | NewZimbabwe.com

Gweru Breaks Condom Usage Record

By-Gweru district has recorded a high number of condom distribution, the National Aids Council has announced.

NAC said Gweru District received over 600 000 condoms for both females and males from January to date.

Three hundred eighty-eight thousand thirty condoms were distributed during the same period in 2021.

Petros Mazengwa, who is Gweru District HIV and Aids co-ordinator at the National Aids Council (NAC) told the Chronicle that this is mainly attributed to the role played by Condom Champions (CC) who are supporting the distribution of condoms. Said Mazengwa:

Gweru district has recorded a surge in condom use after over 600 000 condoms both female and male were distributed from January to date. Condoms distributed are 581 709 males and 24 716 females.

A total 388 030 condoms were distributed last year in the district meaning we have a surge in condom distribution this year.

He said the CC volunteers are based in the wards and are involved in condom distribution, monitoring and information dissemination on “combination HIV prevention”. Said Mazengwa:

The district currently has 19 Condom Champions covering all wards. The Condom Champions also support other combination prevention programs by way of creating demand for services like HIV testing services (HTS), voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC), prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT), cancer screening and others.

He said condoms are usually distributed at hotspots like beer outlets, clubs and other public drinking facilities as well as at universities and colleges.

When used correctly and consistently, condoms are a reliable method of preventing pregnancy and protecting both partners from sexually transmitted infections (STIs). | Chronicle

Chiwenga Opens Up On Tongogara’s Assassination

By- Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has opened up on the assassination of national hero and Zimbabwe National Liberation Army (ZANLA) commander Josiah Magama Tongogara.

Tongogara died in a suspicious accident on the eve of independence.

Chiwenga opened up while addressing relatives, friends, colleagues and senior Government officials who had converged at the National Heroes Acre to commemorate the 43rd anniversary of Tongogara’s death. Said Chiwenga:

To be where we are today it is because of that intelligent and brilliant commander, he foresaw things that we did not see ourselves at that time, that yes we are fighting but one day we will be free.

He was very aware that he would not see the new Zimbabwe, that he would not see independent Zimbabwe.

He would always say well let us fight, the day l go is the day you are going to be free.

We don’t know why, because he had a prophetic mind. It was unfortunate that he died on that fateful day.

Tongogara was born on 4 February 1938 in Shurugwi and died on Boxing Day in 1979 in a vehicle accident in Mozambique, soon after the signing of the Lancaster House Agreement. | The Herald

Women Sue Government Over S*x Toys Ban

By- A women’s political rights lobby grouping, the Women’s Academy for Leadership and Political Excellence (WALPE), is challenging the Customs and Excise Act which prohibits the importation of sex toys (dildos), saying the law violates women’s rights to pleasure.

WALPE executive director Sitabile Dewa lodged a court application challenging the legality of Section 47(1) b of the Customs and Excise Act which criminalises the importation of goods regarded as indecent.
In a statement, WALPE said the law is archaic and infringes on women’s rights to sexual pleasure. Part of the statement reads:
WALPE executive director Dewa is approaching the courts to challenge Section 47(1)b of the Customs and Excise Act which prohibits the importation of any goods which are indecent, obscene, or objectionable.
She is arguing that the law is draconian, and archaic and infringes on women’s rights to sexual pleasure, right to choice and association.
Dewa is being represented by human rights lawyer Jeremiah Bamu of Mbidzo Muchadehama and Makoni Legal Practitioners.
The law was used to convict a Harare resident, Ayanda Muponda, who sold dildos.

Ikhisimusi Sifikile Promotion- Econet Demonstrates Innovation And Creativity

In the age of high- tech innovation that we now live in, many have come to associate innovation and creativity with technological advances – new and improved products and processes, faster devices that can do more, and sleek interfaces that elevate user experiences.

It is however rare to come across a company that takes the principles of  innovation and creativity beyond product and process design and into marketing and CSR. From its inception the Econet brand has always been associated with a pioneering mindset.

As the country’s  leading telecommunications, media, and technology company, Econet Wireless has been at the forefront of developing numerous innovations designed to meet the needs of their individual and corporate customers.

From mobile wallets to ride-hailing apps, they are almost always first on the market with technology-enhanced products.

This culture of innovation goes beyond product design, and permeates the very ethos of the company, as seen in its cutting edge marketing and social responsibility campaigns.

Over the past twenty years, the company has supported innovative social impact programmes in education, public health and youth leadership.

The culture of creativity is evident in this year’s IKhisimusi Sifikile promotion, where the brand has masterfully collaborated with popular artist Jah Prayzah in a remake of the Christmas anthem originally sung by legendary Paul Matavire.

In a move that could be described as a stroke of genius, the Econet leadership team has also built a CSR component into the promotion, ensuring that the Christmas spirit goes beyond meeting the needs of their own customers and  into the broader community.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, many underprivileged groups and individuals have continued to suffer the consequences, with reduced donations coming in as they fall further down the list of priorities for hard-pressed corporates and families.

The Econet promotion aims to promote generosity by triggering the implementation of initiatives with positive sustainable impact.

It reminds consumers that the festive season is as much about giving as it is about receiving and enables interactive engagement with customers.

It is no wonder that the company scooped three coveted awards at the year’s Marketers Association of Zimbabwe (MAZ) Superbrand Awards.

These were Overall MAZ Superbrand of the Year, Best Superbrand in the Telecommunication sector and Best Superbrand in the Business-to-Consumer category.

Running under the theme: Brand Relevance and Dominance in the Age of the customer, the awards aimed to recognise brands that demonstrate continuous innovation and creativity, and the iKIhisimusi Sifikile promotion is just one example of how Econet leads in this area.

Where an annual promotion could become dull and repetitive, the Econet team has risen to the challenge, adding higher stakes, more strategic collaboration and border community care to their annual end of year campaign, demonstrating its commitment to innovation and creativity.

ED Used 2022 TO Open Closed Doors, A Friend OF All And An Enemy To None

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | In the first dispensation Zimbabwe got alienated from its social circles and found itself with fewer and fewer people to turn to. Imagine realising one day that all your friends and family have gone from your life. Loneliness can be cruel, and it affected millions of people living in Zimbabwe.

The second dispensation had a complete change of focus without changing principles. The President Emmerson Mnangagwa took a path which made Zimbabwe an enemy of none and a friend to all.

This kickstarted the reengagement program. Re-engagement is making life less lonely for millions of Zimbabwean people every year. The nation confirms that reengagement activities are making them happier and more able to trust others. As a nation we now have hope that lives will be impacted positively. Through his wisdom MNANGAGWA has opened doors which were shut for a long time.

The international engagements Zimbabwe participated in gave people a new life, regular afternoons of conversation and laughter with friends of all ages.
“Something to look forward to each month has been made real by the reengagement project.
Zimbabwe has managed stay connected to the outside world.
”Before this, Zimbabwe used to be so lonely surviving on straw.
In 2022 alone Zimbabwe participated in the Cop26 where the president visited Scotland after a long time in the deep freezer of isolation. The same year the president attended Belgium and Switzerland Davos.

Having realised that ED Mnangagwa is serious the
Joe Biden administration invited Zimbabwe to the Africa summit to chat a new path forward with Zimbabwe after almost two decades of sanctions against the late President Robert Mugabe and the whole nation.

The US government sent out formal invitations for its 13 – 15 December US-Africa Leaders. Only governments that don’t have diplomatic relations with the US (Eritrea, Western Sahara) or have been suspended by the African Union (Burkina Faso, Guinea, Mali and Sudan) weren’t invited.
In a marked departure from President Barack Obama’s original 2014 summit, the Biden team asked the government of Zimbabwe to join as the US is getting satisfied by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s flawless leadership. This marked a great international victory a score which is sweeter than honey. Any way Zimbabwe is full of honey and milk. Zimbabwe which is not desperate had to send Ambassador Fredric Shava who is the minister of Foreign Affairs as president Mnangagwa remains under US sanctions, accused of undermining democratic processes in the country despite playing a great role in conserving democracy in Zimbabwe.
Biden’s goal, a National Security Council spokesperson says, was to host a “broadly inclusive summit.” Which obviously exposed their double standards.
Because Zimbabwe is not out to make enemies the president allowed comrade Shava to represent Zimbabwe.
“There are countries across the continent [which] […] struggle and are challenged on the democracy and governance side,” Dana Banks, the White House point person for the summit, tells The Africa Report. “But it’s important to have those conversations, right? You have to be able to talk about your concerns … That is the mature engagement that we are seeking with our African partners.”
The summit which is held yearly saw most African leaders calling for the removal of sanctions.
Zimbabwe’s government welcomed the invitation as a chance to repair ties with Washington a goal which MNANGAGWA has achieved at a speed of light.
“We are in continuous re-engagement with the United States and any other Western country,” Livit Mugejo, a spokesman for the ministry of foreign affairs and international trade, said. So the invitation of Zimbabwe to attend the [US-Africa] summit provided another opportunity for the government to continue with its re-engagement efforts.

To see the clear results of Mnangagwa’s re engagement effort Zimbabwe was invited to the United States-Africa summit despite being on US sanctions for 20 years, because Washington recognised that zimbabwe will shape the future of the world and also because the United States is losing out to China diplomatically it can not do without Zimbabwe and Africa.
Washington said in its strategy paper toward Sub-Saharan Africa, published in August: “Sub-Saharan Africa is critical to advancing our global priorities. It has one of the world’s fastest growing populations, largest free trade areas, most diverse ecosystems, and one of the largest regional voting groups in the United Nations (UN).”

While Africa remains the poorest continent, the US says: “It is impossible to meet this era’s defining challenges without African contributions and leadership.
On its strategy towards Africa, Washington says: “This strategy reframes the region’s importance to US national security interests. In November 2021, Secretary of State Antony Blinken affirmed that ‘Africa will shape the future—and not just the future of the African people but of the world’.”
However some Zimbabwe critics in Congress however aren’t pleased. These are the people who have been fed with lies by the Zimbabwean own opposition. Because of these people our efforts to turnaround our fortunes as a country is being slowed down.
African leaders descending on Washington, D.C. for the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit, was a key moment for the United States to try to reset its relationship with African countries. It was not a one sided affair. The question as heads of state, business leaders, and civil society experts gather is whether the event can deliver on its myriad objectives, from addressing food security to expanding trade. It was a summit which was approached on fifty fifty basis.

There was a comprehensive look at the relationship of Africa and America. It was indeed a two sided affair.
The long gap since the last summit in 2014, along with the tense relationship between the U.S. and Zimbabwe and the US and the continent during former President Donald Trump’s administration — during which he infamously called African nations “shithole countries” — placed extra pressure on the meeting.
After not having an Africa policy during the Trump years, the fact that there was the strategic document that came out in the summer and now this summit, that was a positive step.
There is an expectation that in order to demonstrate a real shift in U.S. policy and attitudes, the summit in future needs to go beyond pageantry, canned speeches, and a parade of symbolic announcements which will be followed by real action.
Zimbabwe needs America to deliver concrete policies, agreements, and business deals. Zimbabwe is open for
Business and will not be willing to waste time on things which are not profitable to us. So Zimbabwe took the summit seriously. President MNANGAGWA does not need just a photo op, but an opportunity to engage on a shared vision, with those who believe in the new dispensation.
The summit came at a fraught time for the continent. Countries are dealing with a deluge of shocks: lingering economic effects of the pandemic, historic high inflation, a mounting debt crisis, rising fuel and food prices, and devastating natural disasters connected to climate change. These have not spared Zimbabwe so we groan under the evil force of these things.
Zimbabwe has been accused of the abysmal human rights, corruption, and democracy breaches. None of these has never been proved.
In a contradicting move
Ahead of the summit, the US Treasury Department lifted sanctions on 11 Zimbabwean officials.
The number of countries which came together to fight on Zimbabwean side was encouraging. Ra Maphosa of South Africa has been lobbying for Zimbabwe to be invited to the summit, and his efforts were rewarded. Ramaphosa also reportedly pressed Biden to lift sanctions a request which we all wait to see. Because of Zimbabwe’s re engagement program the US and other Western powers have long been under pressure from Southern African nations to amend their policy toward Harare.
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has repeatedly called for the removal of international sanctions on Zimbabwe, arguing that they harm the country’s economy and that of the entire region. The 16-member group has declared 25 October as ‘Anti-Sanctions Day’ in solidarity with Harare.

President Mnangagwa’s effort has helped. As we move to the 2023 elections we must look at the achievements achieved by the president and by ZANU PF.
The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Negative Impact of Unilateral Coercive Measures on Human Rights, Alena Douhan, likewise denounced the humanitarian impact of the decades-old sanctions after visiting Zimbabwe last year.
Back in Zimbabwe ED is moving on building the country brick by brick. He needs one more term to complete the work he has started. The country is built by its owners.

Zanu PF Plots For The Arrest Of Chamisa Councilors

By James Gwati- The ruling Zanu PF party is pressing for the arrest of CCC Harare councillors on crafted allegations of land corruption.

Pushing for the arrests of Chamisa aides is the Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Metropolitan Province Tafadzwa Muguti.

Zanu PF appointed Muguti to spy on the CCC-dominated Harare city council.

Muguti announced on Christmas day that the arrests of several CCC councillors were imminent.
He said:
We have been witnessing massive land sales even in wetlands. When I engaged the Mayor [Jacob Mafume] he also expressed concern.
We will get to the bottom of this and find out who did what and when. I can promise that we will deal decisively with all those who cut corners to enrich themselves.
We will not leave any stone unturned as we seek the truth. The level of corruption in the [Harare City Council] has reached exhaustion and disgusting levels.
The land is easily sold off, including wetlands with no change of use. Heads will roll that I can promise.

Last week the state media also hinted at the imminent arrests.

The Herald said that CCC and MDC Alliance councillors, working in cahoots with top council officials, were buying commercial and industrial stands for as little as US$60 and reselling them at more than US$120 000.

Mwonzora Promises Zimbabweans A Perfect 2023 Christmas

Opposition MDC president Douglas Mwonzora has promised to fix all problems being faced by Zimbabweans who are currently struggling to make ends meet in this festive season and beyond when he eventually takes over next year.

Mwonzora, who is yet to run in any election since taking over leadership of MDC from Thokozani Khupe, said Zimbabweans should expect prosperity next year.

“I know that there are many of us who are stressed regards what to spend on Christmas, because the money and resources are not there,” said Mwonzora.

“Please take heart in the fact that the new government led by the MDC is coming. It is social-democratic government that is going to bring prosperity and end suffering of Zimbabweans, peace for the people of Zimbabwe.”

A high unemployment rate, poor working conditions and low salaries have resigned Zimbabweans to a subdued festive season.

Mwonzora was recently elected uncontested to represent the MDC at next year’s polls.

He will stand against rival Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) president Nelson Chamisa and Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa, who are the main contenders.

Chamisa Harare Councilors Face Arrests

By James Gwati- Zanu PF is pushing for the arrest of CCC Harare councillors on allegations of land corruption.

Pushing the arrest of Chamisa aides is the Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Metropolitan Province Tafadzwa Muguti.

Zanu PF appointed Muguti to oversee the affairs of the City, dominated by CCC councillors.

He announced on Christmas day that the arrest of CCC councillors was imminent.

Chinese House Workers in Dog Kennels

By-Some workers at the Chinese-owned Hualin Investments (Pvt) Limited mine in Pumula North, Bulawayo, are reportedly sleeping in dog kennels due to a shortage of accommodation.

This was revealed by a study on the mine conducted by the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) Dean of the Faculty of Commerce, Peter Nkala.

The research was titled “Quarrying my doorstep: The case of one company in Ward 17, Bulawayo Metropolitan Province”.

Nkala presented his findings at a Policy Brief hosted by the Public Policy and Research Institute of Zimbabwe (PPRZ) last Thursday. He said:

Some of the concerns raised are that blasting is affecting the houses and other infrastructure in the area.

There is damage to the roads in the area as 21-tonne trucks coming to collect the quarry are damaging roads.

Employment of outsiders who are actually desperate that they accept living in dog kennels.

… People are working long hours and are underpaid. Dust from the quarry is affecting people as well as flora and fauna.

There are unfulfilled promises by the investor such as donating Jojo tanks.

The company drilled a borehole to meet their water requirements but it is said they will not share the water with the community, which is not good neighbourliness.

After the presentations, participants queried how Hualin was allowed to operate without considering the effects of its activities on the environment.

Ward 17 councillor, Sikhululekile Moyo, who was also present at the policy brief, said Hualin applied to operate as was given a licence by the Ministry of Mines. | CITE

A Christmas Without Job Sikhala

By Daniel Molokele| I first met Job Sikhala in 1996 at the University of Zimbabwe (UZ).

This was the year that he was admitted as a first year undergraduate student at what was then the most prestigious institution for higher learning in Zimbabwe.

When Sikhala arrived at the UZ, I was already one of the prominent student leaders there.

I was elected in November 1995 as the Secretary General of the ‪1995-96‬ UZSRC; after having been admitted as a student at the Faculty of Law in March 1995.

Within weeks of his arrival at the UZ, people started talking about Sikhala all across the UZ.

He had a very remarkable personality.

Firstly, he was a very tall person and his height enabled him to stand out in any crowd.

Secondly, he had a very loud mouth and always spoke animatedly and in a hyperbolic manner.

Thirdly, Sikhala was a very highly opinionated person. He enjoyed participating in all available public political discussions and debates and made sure that his strong views were heard very loud and clear.

But it was after April 1996 when I became the Acting President of the UZ students union that I started working closely with Sikhala.

This is because when I set up my own Revolutionary Command Council (RCC) he was one of the prominent first year students who actively participated in its meetings and activities.

It was the very same RCC that featured the likes of the late Learnmore Jongwe who was not yet in the SRC at that time and Nixon Mao Nyikadzino who later became the Commander of the RCC.

Later that year, our SRC organised some protests against the delays in the disbursement of government grants for students.

It was these public demonstrations that gave Sikhala his first public platform to become well known at the UZ. Other prominent RCC members like Jongwe and Nyikadzino also used the same demonstrations to grow their political profiles.

Then in November 1996, the elections for the ‪1996-97‬ UZ SRC were held. Both Sikhala and Jongwe actively campaigned and won. Sikhala was elected as the new Secretary for Publicity and Information while Jongwe was elected as the new President. I was also elected as the new Vice President of the same SRC.

It was this very same UZ SRC that was actively involved in the launch of the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) in 1997

Furthermore, it was also this particular UZ SRC that actually hosted the inaugural Congress for the revived ZINASU that was held at the end of February 1997.

At the end of that Congress, elections were held for the national students’ leadership. This led to all three of us being elected to similar positions under ZINASU. Jongwe was elected as the President, I was alected as his Vice President while Sikhala was also elected as the Spokesperson for the ‪1997-99‬ ZINASU executive.

At the end of our term as the ‪1996-97‬ UZ SRC, Sikhala then contested for the Presidency of the ‪1997-98‬ UZ SRC. Unfortunately, he lost to Gabriel Marechera Shumba and Nixon Mao Nyikadzino who were elected as the President and Vice President, respectively.

However, Sikhala soon showed his political resilience by being elected as a member of the faculty based Students Representative Assembly (SRA) for that same year.

Then in April 1998, Sikhala was one of the prominent student leaders that orchestrated for a premature end for the term of office for the Shumba led SRC.

Soon after, some by-elections were held. Sikhala was one of the student leaders that actively persuaded me to step out of my retirement from campus politics and return as the President of the ‪1998-99‬ UZ SRC. Tafadzwa Musekiwa was elected as my Vice President while Sikhala surprised all and sundry by bouncing back into limelight as the new Secretary General.

It was during the ‪1998-99‬ UZ SRC that the political bond of brotherhood between Sikhala and myself was developed.

During that year we worked very closely as student leaders. In particular, we organised one of the most famous student demonstrations in the entire history of the UZ in June 1998. Unfortunately, the then Chancellor Robert Mugabe panicked and decided to close the UZ for almost a year.

It was also during the same period of the lengthy closure of the UZ that Sikhala and I grew even closer as political brothers. In particular, our political brotherhood was further strengthened when we managed to travel together to attend an internatnalton conference at the Makerere University in Uganda in August 1998.

During early 1999, Sikhala and I were also among the student leaders that were at the forefront during the process that led to the formation of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) later that year. In particular, Sikhala and I co-authored a position paper that focused on why the student movement of Zimbabwe was strongly supportive of the formation of a new political party founded on the backbone of the labour movement of Zimbabwe.

But as fate would have it, later in 1999, Sikhala and I had a very big disagreement about our role in the 2000 parliamentary elections.

I chose to avoid joining parliament until later on. I then focused on legal practice at Bulawayo while Sikhala chose to go to Parliament in 2000.

In this regard, he was actively joined by the late Jongwe and Musekiwa, who were also elected successfully as MPs in the June 2000 elections.

We then drifted apart politically for several years.

Then in 2015, Sikhala visited me at my then home in Parkview at Johannesburg where he made a passionate appeal to me to return to Zimbabwe and actively participate in the national political discourse.

In response, I promised Sikhala that l would definitely consider returning to Zimbabwe but it was just a matter of time

That time eventually came in March 2017 when I was invited to contest as the next member of Parliament for my hometown at the Whange Central constituency.

When that opportunity came, apart from Advocate Nelson Chamisa, Sikhala was one of the first people I consulted about my decision to return to Zimbabwe. He was visibly happy and so excited.

From that time onwards, he actively played a strong part in helping me to set up my campaign. In particular, it was through his active facilitation that in June 2017, I travelled from Joahnensburg to Harare and met some of the most prominent leaders of our democratic movement.

It was Sikhala who set up my first meeting with Advocate Chamisa in Harare. He also accompanied me to meet Advocate Chmaisa at the Advocates Chambers.

It was also during the same meeting that Advocate Chmaisa helped me to set up an appointment with the late legend and icon, Morgan Tsvangirai. It was also Sikhala who accompanied me to my first meeting with Tsvangirai at his home.

As fate would have it, both Sikhala and I managed to contest and win in the July 2018 elections. Since then we have continued to work together as MPs, serving our beloved nation.

What I would like the people of Zimbabwe to know today is that Sikhala is not a criminal.

He is actually a political prisoner or prisoner of political conscience. Sikhala is a victim of political persecution by the abuse of criminal prosecution.

Ever since I first met him at the UZ in 1996, I have grown to know Sikhala as a passionate and patriotic Zimbabwean.

Sikhala really loves his beautiful motherland of Zimbabwe.

Whatever he has experienced since 1996, including the personal horrible torture that he had to endure at the hands of the State security agents in 2003; together with the over sixty arrests he has faced, the underlining point is that he has always been driven by passionate desire to actively serve his people of Zimbabwe.

He has always fought for a new peaceful, prosperous, free and democratic Zimbabwe.

The fact that he was forced to spend his Christmas day today locked inside the Chikurubi maximum security prison has nothing to do with him being a criminal at all.

On the contrary, Sikhala spent his Christmas day behind jail bars today simply due to the fact that he believes that it is his patriotic duty to actively fight for the dawn of a new political era in Zimbabwe.

Sikhala strongly believes that the fact that he spent his Christmas day in prison today will only serve to reinforce the fact that the people of Zimbabwe are not yet truly free.

There is still no political freedom in Zimbabwe today.

It is not yet UHURU!

Sikhala believes that his incarceration at the Chikurubi prison is actually a strong symbol of the fact that Zimbabwe remains largely a political prison.

The people of Zimbabwe are not yet truly free.

They are still struggling daily under the heavy chains of the political bondage imposed upon them by the increasingly intolerant and dictatorial Zanu-PF regime.

As long as Zimbabwe continues to have political prisoners like Sikhala, then its people are still yet to become truly free.

It is still not yet UHURU in Zimbabwe.
