President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said the government is crafting legislation to allow law officers to shoot to kill all who will be seen stealing copper cables.
He added that if the thieves are caught alive, they will spend the rest of their lives in prison.
It affects the electricity, telecommunications and transport sectors, and each year Zimbabwe’s parastatals spend millions of dollars replacing stolen cables and restoring vandalised infrastructure due to cable theft.
In a recent statement, it was revealed that ZESA, the local power utility, lost US$256 million in stolen materials, additional millions in replacement infrastructure and in security mitigation for the same period.
Copper theft is not a new phenomenon but state companies and market players in Zimbabwe say it has surged in recent years.
There is little doubt that copper cable theft has grown into a pandemic in Zimbabwe, particularly for the electricity, telecommunications, and railway parastatals.
Organisations such as Zesa, TelOne, Econet, Telecel, NetOne, and the National Railways of Zimbabwe tell tales of loss of business due to the effects of copper cable theft that has been spreading uncontrolled.
Households too are affected as they are left to spend days without power and sometimes asked to pull resources together for the purchase of copper cables.
It is suspected most of the stolen cables are being smuggled to South Africa and they are then shipped further to countries that use the metal in the construction and manufacturing industries.- Pindula News

Three Mudzi villagers were arraigned before Mutoko magistrates courts yesterday after they assaulted their 84 -year-old village head with wooden sticks and open hands in a bid to force to vacate their village.
Tirihumwe Kuvatedza (24), Batanai Kuvatedza (34) and Sekai Kapesa (23)pleaded guilty to the charge before magistrate Elijah Sibanda who fined them $25000 each.
Prosecutor Nathan Mujuru told the court that on March 15 Chief Nyamukoho of Mudzi was invited at Mudyiwa Kuvatedza homestead in Tirihumwe village,Mudzi to solve an existing village head dispute.
The Chief managed to solve the matter peacefully and left the scene leaving the complainant with other villagers.
The trio arrived armed with wooden sticks and ordered the village head to vacate their village.
The village head tried to negotiate but the trio had non of his excuses and tool turns to assault him while shouting that he should relocate.

Residents from some parts of Bulawayo are now forced to be indoors before the sunset due to the increase in violent crime rate such as mugging, robbery and theft which have befallen a number of them.
The concerned residents said they are living in fear because of the increase in cases of muggings and robbery.
“The Zimbabwe economy has been a huge disappointment for every Zimbabwean, instead of it elevating it is further deterioration which is believed to be the major cause that facilitates the high crime rate within and out of the cities,” said a resident.
“The high rate of unemployment, inflation, high prices in stores, high tuition fees and many more other issues accompanied by extremely low salaries have lured the everising crime record in the city and nationwide.”
According to the crime index, major cases and minor cases are heavily competing with escalating numbers.
The crime levels recorded by Nembeo in Bulawayo is ranging from 67,61% which is now believed to be more from the time it was recorded.
The high rates of crimes recorded include corruption and bribery reaching up to 92,86%, vandalism and theft 70,35%, stolen goods from cars 67,61% and many more crimes ranging from not less than 40%.
These cases have led to so many crimes being committed by elders and children , government and private institutions, women and men .
It is of a very sad note that many have undoubtedly no hope for a better future in Zimbabwe.
Safety concerns have been raised as to who will protect who. Since the trusted ones are also perpetrators.
Some areas such as Mzilikazi, Makokoba, Northend and Manyore have been declared by the public as a no go area at night due to high cases of robberies and attacks.

Former Zanu-PF stalwart Dzikamai Mavhaire, who has joined Nelson Chamisa’s Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has warned that voting for Zanu-PF in the weekend by-elections and next year’s harmonised polls was tantamount to ruining the nation.
Mavhaire, former Energy minister and once long-serving Masvingo governor, said the ruling Zanu-PF party was past its “sale by date” and should not be allowed to remain in power.
He said this while addressing a CCC star rally at Rujeko Grounds in Masvingo on Sunday.
“I once said some years back that Zanu-PF does not have title deeds to rule. The war of liberation was not fought to create life presidents who die in power. I once warned my brother (the late former President Robert Mugabe) and he said I was a loud mouth, but he ended up crying after he was removed from power,” he said.
Mavhaire was fired from the ruling party in the 1990s after he moved a motion in Parliament calling for the removal of the late former President Robert Mugabe.
He was re-admitted to the party after the 2013 elections, but was dismissed in June 2015 on corruption allegations when he was Energy minister.
Mugabe also accused him of hobnobbing with former Vice-President Joice Mujuru.
Mavhaire said President Emmerson Mnangagwa had no leadership qualities to resuscitate the country’s economy.
“How many people here are my age group, yet, you allow someone like me to rule? Where will I take you? Are you not ashamed that you are old? I can no longer deliver as I am nearing my grave. If you follow me I will take you to my grave. Who do you think is older — Mnangagwa or I? He is older than me yet he still wants to rule you. So if I am a grave, what is ED?”
Mnangagwa will turn 80 next year.

The State has opposed bail application by popular Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist Godfrey Karembera, popularly known as Madzibaba Veshanduko, arguing that evidence against him is overwhelming.
Kerembera was arrested last Thursday on allegations of insulting the police.
Prosecutor Anesu Chirenje told Harare magistrate Babra Mateko that Kerembera was likely to reoffend if granted bail.
Chirenje said five police officers are lined up to testify against the activist and as such he was a flight risk.
Karembera had also challenged his placement on remand on grounds that he was unlawfully detained but the state argued that this does not mean the court should automatically set the accused free.
The state also alleged that Karembera was difficult to arrest since he resisted police officers.
Chirenje said the bruises he sustained were a result of the scuffle and not that he was assaulted.
“We are not opposing bail because he is a CCC member as anyone is free to associate oneself with any political party of choice,” Chirenje said.
But his lawyer Douglas Coltart then opposed the submissions.
“The political affiliation of the accused was centre of the arrest and torture hence everything is cantered around that,” said the lawyer.
Karembera is being accused of undermining the authority of the police by insulting them.
It is alleged that he insulted the police calling them dogs.

Government is headed for another showdown with teachers after failing to honour its pledge to pay tuition fees for their children, with less than three weeks before schools close for the first term.
According to a salary deal signed last month following protracted negotiations, each teacher is entitled to school fees for up to three children with a ceiling of $20 000 per child.
The government announced the offer in February alongside a 20% salary increase and an additional US$100 effective this month after teachers boycotted classes citing incapacitation.
Primary and Secondary Education ministry spokesperson Taungana Ndoro yesterday said processing of the money was an ongoing exercise.
“It is not true that the government has failed to honour its pledge. Due process is being carried out and we have to wait for it to take place. Remember we have a substantial number of teachers, over 140 000 of them and, therefore, due diligence cannot take place overnight,” Ndoro said.
Teachers unions, however, accused the government of insincerity, with Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe secretary-general Raymond Majongwe saying the educators were tired of empty promises.
“There is nothing yet. Not even the disbursement template exists. Once again, the government is short-changing its employees. There is neither a policy nor procedure to make the teachers benefit. Government now has a tendency of throwing benefits that benefit no one,” Majongwe said.
“Last time there was a COVID-19 allowance that was meant to assist those who contracted the disease at work, but until today, none of the 1 588 of our members got a cent even after contracting the deadly disease while those from other ministries benefitted.”
Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe president Obert Masaraure said they were frustrated by government’s failure to implement a resolution passed by the National Joint Negotiation Committee.
“It is sad to note that the government promised benefits which have not materialised up to this time. The government pledged to pay tuition fees for teachers’ children beginning March 1, but these fees are yet to be paid,” Masaraure said.
Teachers are also demanding a US$540 salary they used to earn before October 2018.

Little-known opposition Ideas Party of Democracy (IPD) claims that it has provided financial aid and groceries to dozens of Harare informal traders who failed to recover from the effects of COVID-19 lockdown measures.
IPD leader Herbert Chamuka told NewsDay yesterday that beneficiaries were receiving US$10 each per month under the programme “to ensure they have something to eat”.
“The programme started last Friday where beneficiaries receive a basket of groceries which includes 2 litres of cooking oil, 10kg of meal-meal, soap, 2kg sugar and a tin of baked beans plus an allowance of US$10. We have assisted dozens, approximately 100 so far,” he said.
The global pandemic disrupted lives, causing company closures and job cuts with informal traders also not spared as they were forced to suspend operations.
Informal traders have also been at the mercy of law enforcement agents who have made their survival very difficult.
Chamuka said his party was training informal traders to capacitate them with skills to endure economic shocks such as natural disasters, using the COVID-19 pandemic as a case study.
Under the COVID-19 regulations, borders were closed, rendering most of the people who rely on cross-border trading helpless.
In an interview, Zimbabwe Cross Border traders Association president Killer Zivhu said most cross-border traders had failed to recover from the effects of the lockdowns.
“We are talking about almost 20% of the population which translates to 70% of the population’s livelihoods as they have dependents. Those people technically had no way to put food on the table,” he said.
Thousands have turned to informal trading because of lack of formal employment.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged companies in his country to employ local citizens and train them to the levels required by the industry instead of relying on cheap undocumented migrant labour.
In his keynote address to commemorate the country’s Human Rights Day on Monday, Ramaphosa warned that South African employers risked worsening social tensions by employing undocumented foreign nationals. He also urged citizens to be tolerant towards foreigners.
His remarks came amid tensions over jobs between locals and foreign nationals working in South Africa where employers prefer cheap foreign labour.
“As a country founded on tolerance, respect, diversity, non-discrimination, we must never allow ourselves to turn against people who come from beyond our borders,” he said, adding that the challenge of unemployment should not be a scapegoat to fight foreigners.
“We have always had people from other countries and if you want to know, I say this because I was in the mining industry. The mining industry as we know it, was developed and built not only by South Africans, but also by workers from other countries like Mozambique, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Angola, Zambia, eSwatini and so on, they all participated,” Ramaphosa said.
An estimated 180 000 Zimbabwe exemption permit holders living in South Africa face deportation at the end of this year if they fail to migrate to other permits.
In a related development, South Africa-based Zimbabwean human rights activist Chandagwinyira Chose has petitioned Zimbabwean ambassador to South Africa David Hamadziripi demanding President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s intervention to stop xenophobic attacks in the neighbouring country.
“I am requesting the government of Zimbabwe to intervene in what is happening at Robertson where our dear Zimbabwean citizens are being butchered by South Africans. This is something that needs your office to intervene at a government to government level, as it is getting out of hand,” Chose’s letter delivered on Sunday, read.
He alleged that the horrific attacks on Zimbabweans were happening at Robertson in the Cape Winelands, with the most heart-wrending attacks having occurred on Saturday.
“If Zimbabweans are given the right channels to take their belongings to their country, they are never going to refuse. My other concern is that the government of South Africa is silent on these developments. That is why I have to beg your good office to intervene,” Chose’s letter read.
Efforts to get a comment from Hamadziripi were fruitless as he did not respond to written questions from NewsDay.

In a suspected case of suicide, a Harare man died on the spot after throwing himself self onto a moving heavy Harare City Council truck along Charter Road this morning.
A witness said the unidentified man had suicidal tendencies before the mishap.
“Several vehicles tried to avoid him as he was sleeping on the middle of the road.
“Unfortunately, when a council Nissan UDSO came, he just threw himself in the middle of the truck and his head was crushed,” said a vendor, Mrs Annastancia Mandevere.
A police source who declined to be named for professional reasons confirmed the death of the man.

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) has arrested three people including a police officer, who masqueraded as their officials and duped a cross-border trader of US$2 000.
The trio, Superintendent Egdar Moyo of Gokwe district police headquarters, Cephas Phiri and Crispen Manda were arrested after one of them was caught red-handed wearing police uniform.
“One of the accused, Manda, was caught with police uniforms and badges of rank — shoulder titles of the rank of chief inspector Supt Moyo is in police custody waiting to appear in court while Manda and Phiri were remanded in custody pending bail application,” Zacc posted.
The anti-graft body lamented an increase in bogus characters who pretend to offer services on behalf of government agencies while extorting money from people.
“The commission wishes to inform the public that its personnel does not receive or demand money from suspects or complainants to carry out their duty. Any such demands must be reported to the commission at any of its offices,” Zacc said.
The commission also said it had intensified investigations to end these criminal activities.
Last month, Zacc arrested three men who impersonated Zacc officials and tried to open an illegal office within the port.
Mashonaland Central senator Angeline Tongogara has implored the government to come up with measures to deal with corruption.
She said the government established Zacc to deal with corruption, but such incidents continue to proliferate.

By A Correspondent- A Man from Nketa 9 Suburb, Bulawayo has appeared in court charged with car theft after he allegedly hired a vehicle to take him to New Parklands where he was purportedly to meet his gold clients and later hijacked it.
Melody Shingirai Lunga (38) was denying the charge when he appeared before Bulawayo Regional magistrate Dambudzo Malunga.
Lunga was further remanded in custody to today for the continuation of trial
The court heard that sometime in October 2020 at 5pm, Agrippah Gwaringa, a Director of First Kick Investments at CSC Complex Belmont was driving his Biege Toyota vehicle from Mpopoma to Mahatshula North suburb along Luveve road to his place of residence.
He was stopped by Lunga who was in the company of Takunda Simbi. He hired Gwaringa on the pretext that he wanted to go to New Parklands to sell his gold to Nyasha Munatsi and agreed to pay a sum of US$10 for the hire upon arrival at New Parklands.
Lunga persuaded Simbi he had just met at the bus stop to accompany him where he was going and he agreed.
They drove to New Parklands where upon arrival Lunga went alone inside the yard and came back a few minutes later. He allegedly instructed Gwaringa to drive him to Gles street, Old Parklands claiming he wanted to collect his gold from Courage Bester Mkandla whom he met up with and discussed business.
Thereafter, Lunga then again instructed Gwaringa to drive him to Queens Park West, Elsley road where he said he wanted to collect his money from a friend Marcus Ali where upon arrival he went inside the yard leaving Gwaringa and Simbi inside the motor vehicle.
He came back a few minutes later and asked Gwaringa and Simbi to disembark from the car claiming he wanted to have a private conversation with Ali. The two complied and Gwaringa left his car keys at the ignition port.
The court heard that Lunga took advantage of the car keys and drove away in the company of Ali whom he dropped at Queens Park West shopping centre leaving Simbi and Gwaringa stranded.
On the same day at 9pm Lunga gave one Clancy Munetsi from Wisho road , Famona ,Bulawayo the motor vehicle and it’s ignition keys as surety after he had borrowed US$100 from him and indicated that he would pay the money back on October 26.
A Police report was made and investigations were instituted leading to the recovery of the motor vehicle from Munetsi on October 25 at Essence Building along Joshua Mqabuko Street.
On August 13 2021, Lunga was arrested by the police officers from Crime Prevention Unit, Bulawayo after a tip off.
Lunga got paralyzed and suffered from a stroke while in custody at Khami prison.-Newsday

By A Correspondent- Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has insisted that his party would not contest the 2023 general elections if government does not allow the United Nations (UN) to observe the crunch vote.
Chamisa said this while addressing thousands of supporters during a campaign rally in Mutare Saturday ahead of this coming weekend’s by-elections.
“We have learnt from the past experiences, hence I wrote to SADC officials and some leaders from other countries including the United Nations,” he said.
“I informed them that we will not contest in 2023 elections without UN and conditions set up to assure the announcement of the real election winner.”
The opposition accuses the ruling Zanu-PF party of rigging previous elections and with Chamisa insisting that won the 2018 vote only to be cheated out of taking over power by the President Emmerson Mnangagwa-led regime.
Chamisa challenged the election outcome at the Constitutional Court but the petition was dismissed for lack of evidence.
On Saturday he told supporters that any election held without the participation of his new CCC party would not be credible.
The election can only be conducted whilst we (CCC) are contesting. It takes two to tangle, we are the real owners of this country. Without CCC the nation will not be fully represented,” he said.
“Right now my brother Mnangagwa is moving with half loaded bus because the other half belongs to CCC.”
He challenged the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to put in place mechanisms to ensure a fair and credible ballot.
“When Zimbabweans went to war the main fight was for all citizens to attain one man/woman one vote,” he said.
“If you take a closer look, these days your vote can get you into hot soup. As it is, it seems people who fought for that vote died for nothing.
“We want to make sure that as we head towards the by-elections your vote must count. Some are asking if we will make it in the elections due to ZEC; ZEC is supposed to be a national institution.”
The country will this weekend hold by-elections in some 133 parliamentary and local authority consituencies which fell vacant mostly due to recalls by the opposition MDC-T party.
President Mnangagwa has warned rogue non-governmental organisations (NGOs) against over-stepping their mandate by meddling into politics, saying the Government will not hesitate to discipline such operators.
The call by the President comes at a time when meddlesome NGOs, working closely with the opposition and some Western embassies, have been abusing their status to interfere in the country’s political affairs in a bid to mastermind regime change.
Addressing thousands of Zanu-PF supporters during a star rally at Siabuwa Business Centre on Saturday in Binga District to drum up support for Kuda Munsaka, the ruling party’s aspiring candidate for Binga North National Assembly seat in the March 26 by-elections, President Mnangagwa said NGOs that are bent on destabilising the prevailing peace, unity and harmony through dabbling in politics will be kicked out of the country.
“Each and every NGO has been given a mandate, but when they start doing things outside their mandate, it’s now politics. We want to remind you that as Zanu-PF, we are the ruling party and what about you? We simply say to you leave our country and there is nothing that you can do about it because we have the powers to do,” he said.
President Mnangagwa said machinations by the country’s detractors to derail the country’s development either clothed as NGOs or blunt opposition forces that do not wish the country any good must be exposed and consigned to history by 2023.
Government has in the past accused NGOs of abandoning their mandate by pursuing a political agenda in support of regime change. This has prompted Parliament to come up with the Private Voluntary Organisation Amendment Bill, which was gazetted last year in November.
The Bill seeks to, among other things, penalise NGOs that dabble in politics and which have previously been used by the US and other Western nations to fund regime change.
The amendment seeks to add to section 10 of the principal Act by the insertion of a new paragraph that bars any private voluntary organisation from supporting or opposing any political party or candidate in a presidential, parliamentary or local government election.
Any private voluntary organisation violating this provision shall be guilty of an offence and liable to a fine of level twelve or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year, or both such fine or such imprisonment.
The penalty also extends to foreign organisations that solicit funds for political parties in breach of the Political Parties Finance Act.
Apart from barring NGOs from pursuing political lobbying the Bill’s Memorandum says the amendments are also being made, to comply with the Financial Action Taskforce (FATF) recommendations made to Zimbabwe.
Further to this, it has also become necessary to streamline administrative procedures for private voluntary organisations to allow for efficient regulation and registration President Mnangagwa has also scoffed at Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Mr Nelson Chamisa for fantasising too much about foreign bail outs.
“There is this boy who says when his party wins elections, within five days the country will be teeming with investors from Western countries. We are saying this country can only be built by its own people. Nyika imwe neyimwe ino vakwa nevene vayo,” he said amid thunderous applause by jubilant Zanu-PF supporters.
“Our revolutionary party Zanu-PF went to war and liberated this country. President Mnangagwa also implored party members to desist from violence.
“We want unity in the party and if you fail to resolve your differences, I will personally come and resolve them. No one is above the party. Zanu-PF can’t fit into an individual’s pocket, but everyone can fit into its pocket.”
President Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe will remain a unitary State and that no amount of effort from the country’s detractors or those calling for a separate State will divide the country.
Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, who also attended the rally, lauded President Mnangagwa for spearheading development in the country under the Second Republic and denounced violence ahead of the by elections.
“We don’t want violence as we head towards elections. Those who lose elections must accept defeat not to resort to acts of violence as we want to continue building our country,” he said. “Under the Second Republic we want peace and harmony. We want to build our country. Those who claim to be champions of democracy yet they threaten to engage in violence in the event of losing an election should be mentally examined.”
Zanu-PF Second Secretary and Vice-President Kembo Mohadi urged people to rally behind the ruling party. He commended President Mnangagwa for delivering on his promised as evidenced by several projects being undertaken under the Second Republic.

Former ZEC ICT director, Pamela Mapondera, is suing the commission for unlawful dismissal.
“Former ZEC Director for ICT, Pamela Mapondera, has filed a lawsuit at the Labour Court for unlawful dismissal.
ZEC had recently terminated her contract.
ZEC must not victimize employees for doing their job, but rather, all ZEC commissioners must resign,” Team Pachedu said in a statement.
Heal Zimbabwe Trust has expressed concern at the announcement by ZEC that polling agents are not allowed to carry mobile phones into voting centres.
” Today ZEC announced during training of Polling Agents in #KwekweCentral that all polling agents must not carry a phone, torch or pen & paper into the polling station on the day of the by-election.”
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said the government is crafting legislation to allow law officers to shoot to kill all who will be seen stealing copper cables.
He added that if the thieves are caught alive, they will spend the rest of their lives in prison.
It affects the electricity, telecommunications and transport sectors, and each year Zimbabwe’s parastatals spend millions of dollars replacing stolen cables and restoring vandalised infrastructure due to cable theft.
In a recent statement, it was revealed that ZESA, the local power utility, lost US$256 million in stolen materials, additional millions in replacement infrastructure and in security mitigation for the same period.
Copper theft is not a new phenomenon but state companies and market players in Zimbabwe say it has surged in recent years.
There is little doubt that copper cable theft has grown into a pandemic in Zimbabwe, particularly for the electricity, telecommunications, and railway parastatals.
Organisations such as Zesa, TelOne, Econet, Telecel, NetOne, and the National Railways of Zimbabwe tell tales of loss of business due to the effects of copper cable theft that has been spreading uncontrolled.
Households too are affected as they are left to spend days without power and sometimes asked to pull resources together for the purchase of copper cables.
It is suspected most of the stolen cables are being smuggled to South Africa and they are then shipped further to countries that use the metal in the construction and manufacturing industries.- Pindula News
THE voters roll which will be used by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) in the Saturday by-elections is shambolic, with an unacceptably high margin of error of 27%, watchdogs have said.
Activists Team Pachedu, who have been analysing the voters roll released by Zec and comparing it to the 2018 version, pointed out that the 27% margin of error was much higher than Zec’s self-imposed 10%.
“The Constitution of Zimbabwe states that Zec must ensure the proper maintenance of voters rolls. One vote can win an election, therefore, Zec should not hide behind an illegal and non-existent 10% error excuse, but it must strive to create an error-free voters roll.
“You said that 10% margin of error is your limit, however, since the anomalies that we discovered in the voters roll are over 27%, which is almost three times above the limit, what are you going to do as Zec?” Team Pachedu tweeted yesterday.
Election Resource Centre (ERC) programmes manager Solomon Bobosibunu said while a voters roll could never be perfect, the margin of error should be low so as to avoid disenfranchising voters.
“Personal details in a voters roll must be correctly captured because these are the details that result in someone failing to either vote or access the polling station because the details will not be correct. If these errors are more than the threshold that allows people to vote, then that election might likely be compromised because if we have so many people being turned away then ultimately you have a lot of issues and a lot of problems,” Bobosibunu said.
“In that regard, an election cannot go ahead when there are extensive errors on the voters roll particularly on the personal details, the full name, the surname and the identity of the person, these are critical pieces of information,” he said, adding that details in any voters roll should be closer to 100% so that people can vote.
“The commission is alive to that a voters roll is a moving document, but Zec must not make it difficult for those people with the details that have some errors to access the voting process because that will also compromise the freeness and the fairness of the election because it is not at the voters discretion that these details may not be correct.”
The Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13) as provided for in section 21(7) prescribes that where a voters roll is provided in electronic form ….., its format shall be such as allows its contents to be searched and analysed.
Legal expert Alec Muchadehama said the electoral law demanded that the voters roll should be as clean as possible.
He said section 35 of the Electoral Act gave Zec powers to correct any errors on the voters roll to ensure it is as clean as possible.
“When any election is due Zec must register as many people and take the necessary measures to make sure that people registered are given an opportunity to inspect the voters roll and confirm that their names appear in the ward and constituency which they want to vote in. Zec must be able to clear all possible anomalies,” Muchadehama said.
He said in 2008, Zec gave the MDC a voters roll that was encrypted without giving it passwords to enable it to scrutinise it.
“In 2013, the MDC went to the polls without the voters roll, and now in these elections no one knows which voters roll Zec says it is using. We are now going towards the 2023 elections and we do not know how Zec intends to clean up this voters roll so people can raise their concerns. The issue of the voters roll has always been contested,” he said.
In a statement, the opposition Citizens for Coalition of Change (CCC) said: “Zec has already exhibited worrying tendencies, including the use of a discredited voters roll, a lack of transparency and failure to consult stakeholders sincerely. The citizens will vigorously defend the vote. Important lessons have been taken from the 2018 election and the citizens will have adequate polling agents and safeguards to guard against rigging.”
But Zec spokesperson Jasper Mangwana said he was not aware that the voters roll had a 27% margin of error.
“We are not aware that there is a 27% error on the voters roll. There are 28 voters rolls for the National Assembly and 122 for local authorities. We have not received any queries pertaining to errors in these. We gave all candidates the voters rolls and we have not received any error reports from the stakeholders,” Mangwana said.
Meanwhile, former Zec director for information communication technology and voter delimitation, Pamela Mapondera, who was dismissed together with other officials for allegedly leaking the voters roll to Team Pachedu, has dragged the electoral body to the Labour Court demanding reinstatement.
Mapondera, through her lawyer Ephraim Ndhlovu of Mabundu and Ndhlovu Law Chambers, cited Zec and its chairperson Priscilla Chigumba as respondents. She maintains that she was unlawfully dismissed.
In her application for review of the termination of her employment contract, Mapondera, who worked for Zec for 14 years, states that her employment was terminated without giving her a chance to stand before a disciplinary hearing.
“I was suspended and without allegations and a disciplinary process, I was served with a dismissal letter for misconduct.”
Mapondera said on February 11 this year, while lawfully and competently discharging her duties, she was served with a suspension letter, saying to the knowledge of Zec she discharged her duties incompetently.
She was suspended for 21 days without salary and benefits and was told that they will communicate with her. However, after the 21 days elapsed, there was not communication.
“On March 9, 2022, I was then served with a letter terminating my employment contract…”
She said the letter stated that a resolution was made by Zec to dismiss her.
“I was suspended on allegations pending an investigation of which the investigations were never received by myself. Without investigations shows that I was never charged of any misconduct. Without a charge I was never arraigned before any disciplinary process for me to be heard and without disciplinary hearing I was never found guilty of misconduct.”
Mapondera wants the courts to set aside Zec’s decision to fire her and for the commission to reinstate her to her former position without loss of salary and benefits.
She was fired together with other Zec officials accused of leaking the voters roll to Team Pachedu.
The matter is yet to be heard.

The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has sensationally accused the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) of changing its party symbols on ballot papers to be used in the weekend by-elections.
The Nelson Chamisa-led party also lodged a complaint over the printing of ballot papers in black and white, saying this was meant to confuse its supporters on election day.
In a letter addressed to Zec chief elections officer Utoile Silaigwana dated March 21, 2022, CCC national secretary for elections Ian Makone said it was disturbing to note that the election management body changed its party symbols after being provided with distinctive samples.
The CCC said its symbols had an inscribed description of a “yellow square background, circular words surrounding Chamisa’s face with letters CCC inside a black triangle”.
“In view of this, the CCC wishes to express its concern regarding the variation in its party symbol. The yellow background is not reflected on the party logo as witnessed by the party candidates during the ballot paper verification exercise,” Makone wrote.
“The sample ballot paper is not an exact depiction of our party intent, hence a violation of our party identity. It is in this regard that Zec considers such concerns seriously and rectifies them as per the requirements of the law of the land.”
During a Press briefing in Harare yesterday, Makone said CCC wrote to Zec on February 24 demanding answers over the printing of ballot papers.
“What we wanted from them was an assurance that there is a process of consultation even at local level and district multi-party liaison officer which enables us to proofread the specimen ballot papers,” he said.
“They never got an opportunity to do that and only found that a number of our candidates could not even recognise the picture that is on the ballot paper. We need to know which voters roll will be in use on Saturday,” Makone said.
The revelations came at a time when Zec has been taken to task over a number of anomalies on the voters roll, among them the alleged transfer of over 170 000 voters from their wards without their consent. The commission has, however, disputed the allegations, claiming the alleged anomalies were picked from a “leaked” draft roll, and have since been rectified.
The printing of ballot papers in the past elections has always been shrouded in secrecy, raising concerns over credibility of the polls,
Contacted for comment yesterday, Zec spokesperson Jasper Mangwana said they were not obliged to print ballot papers in colour.
“Zec is not obliged to print ballot papers in colour/s that correspond to contesting candidates or parties. The applicable provisions that relate to printing of the ballot paper are in section 52A of the Electoral Act and section 5 of the Electoral Regal SI 21 of 2005,” Mangwana said in a series of tweets following concerns raised by the CCC that its symbols had been tampered with.
“The sections do not at all bind the commission to print any ballot papers in the manner the party is alleging. What is important is to distinguish the colour of the ballot paper depending on the type of election as envisaged by section 5 of the electoral regulations.”
“The law does not require the commission to print the photograph or symbol of the party in colour. It is unfortunate that the party went on to educate its supporters without consulting with the commission on the contents and form of (the) ballot paper.”
Zec recently announced that it had printed 594 300 ballots for the by-elections.
Ballots for the National Assembly were printed by Fidelity Printers and Refiners while those for local authorities were printed by Printflow, both government-owned entities.
A total of 813 659 people were registered to vote for National Assembly elections while 678 260 were registered for local authorities’ by-elections.
Zimbabwe Election Advocacy Trust executive director Ignatius Sadziwa said the secrecy surrounding the printing of ballot papers made verification and auditing difficult.
“The issue of the ballot printing has been contentious for quite a long time and we had hoped that Zec was going to address it this time around. Now that is problematic since the printing process is shrouded in shadowy secrecy making verification and auditing by political parties and civil society difficult,” Sadziwa said.

The parole system will now allow every prisoner to apply for early release regardless of the nature of sentence they are serving and the prison system will now cater for the needs of pregnant women, juvenile offenders and persons with disabilities.
Currently only female prisoners, juveniles under the age of 18 years, prisoners serving 36 months and below, and all prisoners aged 60 and above, except those convicted of specified offences, qualify to benefit from parole.
In her post-Cabinet briefing yesterday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said Cabinet approved the Prisons and Correctional Services Bill 2022, which also provides for, among other things, the establishment of correctional community centres throughout the country, which will essentially be open prisons.
These centres will also ensure decongestion of prisons as certain prisoners will be released from standard prisons to reside in such community centres.
They will also serve the purpose of easing the transition of inmates from incarceration life to community life.
“Cabinet considered and approved the Prisons and Correctional Services Bill 2022 as presented by the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Honourable Ziyambi Ziyambi as chairperson of the Cabinet Committee on Legislation.
Cabinet advises that the parole system will be broadened to provide for the eligibility of every prisoner to apply for parole regardless of the nature of the sentences they are serving,” she said.
The Prisons and Correctional Services Bill 2022 seeks to modernise the prisons legislation with a view to ensuring that it meets international norms and standards regarding prisons administration, including the way prisoners are treated.
“This includes focusing on restorative justice through rehabilitation rather than incarceration of offenders.
The Prisons and Correctional Services Act will ensure that the prison system caters for the needs of the vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, juvenile offenders as well as persons with disabilities and other special categories in society that have special needs,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.
She said the legislation further seeks to promote community involvement in the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional
Service (ZPCS) in order to ensure that prisoners will not face difficulties and hostilities being accepted back into communities and within their families.
“The Prisons and Correctional Service Act will extend an inmate’s right to consult with a medical practitioner of their choice at their own expense.
In tandem with the Constitution, the legislation affords inmates access to their lawyers before and during their trials,” she said.
The Minister said Cabinet also approved the Principles of the Witness Protection Bill 2022.
The Witness Protection Bill seeks to fill the gap in the law by establishing legislation to provide for witness protection in Zimbabwe.
The absence of adequate witness protection mechanisms has resulted in the police taking the responsibility of protecting witnesses.
“Cabinet reports that the purpose of the Bill is to provide for the establishment of an office that caters for the protection and placement of witnesses under temporary, interim and permanent protection.
The Bill seeks to regulate the powers, functions and duties of the office,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.
“Furthermore, the Bill will establish the necessary procedures and measures on how witnesses are put into the witness protection programme.”-Chronicle

OUR SYSTEM OF GOVERNANCE MUST CHANGE.
I’ve listened to the debate in which someone argues that the Venda in Beit Bridge have no power because the six urban councillor are Shona. In comparison, he says that the fifteen rural district councillors are all Venda and therefore the latter have power to govern the affairs of their people in Beit Bridge rural. He still notes that there are two MPs and a senator who are all Venda. Yet, he concludes that all the Shona and Venda councillors, MPs and senator included, have no power to make meaningful decisions and for this weakness, he then blames what he calls “the Shona system of governance” which concentrates all the power in Harare. He then suggests that there’s need to change the system of governance.
I agree that there’s a need to change the system of governance. The Beit Bridge scenario can be used to illustrate where the weaknesses of the governance system lie. I want to steer away from the tribal debate because, in my view, people in whatever locality are victims of this governance system the same, be they in Manicaland or any of the Mashonaland provinces.
The way I see it, while, as some of us are apt to say, some people from Mashonaland are beneficiaries of ZANU-PF largesse, the people of Mashonaland as a whole are not benefitting from ZANU-PF rule. Some people in the Matabeleland provinces are benefiting from ZANUPF rule, but the people of Matabeleland are not. The beneficiaries of ZANU-PF rule are small coterie of an elitist kleptocracy.
The reason you find Shonas in cities far away from their homes is poverty. It is the same reason why Zimbabweans have become a problem in South Africa. They’re looking for any opportunities they can find to make a living. The party system in this country is such that it is not the electorate that chooses candidates. It is the respective parties. This is so in all political parties. People vote to merely endorse the party choice. Once elected, the MP or councillor does not answer to the people. He or she becomes a beneficiary of the system at the expense of his constituency. In any case, he could not have been MP had the party not allowed it. The chances for independents winning any seat are so slim that it is not worthwhile for most political aspirants. The other flaw of this system is that it compromises integrity and meritocracy as patronage, cronyism and pandering to the whims of the chefs rules the day.
The six Shona councillors in Beit Bridge have no power to determine fully matters pertaining to the governance of their area. Surely, they live in Beit Bridge and they also want the best for their town just like their Venda counterparts. These urban councillors are all ZANU-PF, like the fifteen rural councillors albeit the latter are all Venda. Instead of working for Beit Bridge, they’re doing ZANU-PF’S bidding in their localities. We must also appreciate that, while ZANU-PF has local structures, those local structures do not serve their localities. Rather they serve Shake Shake building in Harare.
What is skewed about our system of governance? ZANU-PF has concentrated power on itself rather than on the traditional institutions of governance. Let’s be clear that ZANU-PF as a political party is a private entity. Government is nationally elected and is therefore a public entity. The government, as distinct from ZANU-PF, has a mandate to rule derived from its election by the electorate. The electorate elects individuals and not the party. Of course, those individuals may belong to a political party but their mandate to rule is not confered upon them by the political party. If it were so, there would be no need for national elections. The appointment of government officials would be an internal affair within ZANU-PF. We would be ruled by those elected at the ZANU-PF Congress.
As a public entity, government should not be beholden to a private entity called ZANU-PF. Dr Joshua Nkomo in his book, The Story Of My Life, complains about Mugabe’s tendency of referring cabinet decisions to the ZANU-PF politbureau where those decisions were diluted, modified or even reversed. He said that that was illegal. I agree with him. The ZANU-PF Politibureau and ZANU-PF are both NOT national institutions. They’re private entities.
ZANU-PF has extended its tentacles to all the institutions of government and rules them with an iron grip. It has conflated the national government to a ZANU-PF toy. Ours is a classic case of state capture by a political party called ZANU-PF.
42 years of control of our public institutions by a private entity called ZANU-PF has weakened and corrupted them so much that they now cannot distinguish between what’s public and private, between government and ZANU-PF. The police, army, government ministries, public service commission, judiciary etc all think they’re ZANU-PF and bend backwards to appease the master. There’s hardly any modicum of separation of powers.
The 2013 Constitution encapsulates Devolution as the desired system of governance for this country with a view to cure this anomaly. As would be expected, the most vociferous opposition voice during the crafting of the same constitution was that of the then President Robert Mugabe with ZANU-PF shouting the chorus. The result was a compromise on devolution and not devolution in its entirety. What we have in the constitution are clauses that are not forthright, sincere and definite on devolution. The devolution provisions fall short of the people’s expectations.
Devolution presupposes strong legislative powers to the provinces. There must be elected governors of provinces, elected mayors of metropolitan provinces, elected chairpersons of rural councils. All these must have executive powers to run their provinces, local authorities and districts. They must be supported by elected legislators in provincial parliaments or councils. The governors must preside over a provincial government cabinet and must have the power to institute bureaucracies to run the day to day affairs of the administration and governance of the provinces.
To date, there has been little effort to implement the limited devolution provided for in the constitution. What we have is tokenism euphemised as devolution where the Minister for Local government doles out so called “devolution funds” as if devolution is money.
Devolution is not money. Devolution is power to govern at the local level by inhabitants of the specific locality.
To implement devolution, government should start by creating the devolved institutions as provided for by the constitution. Obviously, the first tasks toward that end is to enact supporting legislation. How are the provincial governors, metropolitan mayors, local government councils officials and rural district chairpersons to be elected? What powers should be confered on these officials? What mandates will these institutions be charged with? How will these provincial governments be resourced and funded? What will be their obligations to central government and vice versa?
Budgets to launch the new provincial governments should be put in place to make them functional. Once functionality is achieved, the provincial governments can then be weaned off central government dependence. They will be able to source their own revenues, craft provincial budgets and implement their projects independent of central government.
As we prepare for the 2023 harmonised elections, we must ask ourselves, almost 10 years after the 2013 constitution, why we’re not even talking about provincial government elections in line with the national aspirations for a devolved system of governance.
Perhaps we can take a leaf from Kenya. The 2007 Kenya elections were marred by horrific violence which attracted international intervention. The African Union sent a mediation team led by Kofi Annan to get the opposing parties to negotiate. The culmination of those negotiations was a government of national unity whose main task was to work out a new constitution for Kenya. By 2010, the new Constitution of Kenya was in place. But this was only a document which could not implement itself. They enacted an act of parliament called The Transition To Devolved Government Act. In line with this Act, a Transitional Authority charged with the implementation of the devolved institutions was put in place. Numerous irregularities were flagged in the days running up to today and these include duplicate entries in the database tables.
ZEC has announced that the voters roll should not be availed to the public, citing data protection concern as a reason.
Last week, the Commission announced that the voters roll will no longer be supplied outside permission from ZEC’s CEO.
“The regime is in panic mode, the voters roll should be availed to the public,” a CCC official said on Tuesday.

Bikita – Elson Mabasa aka Bhudhi is a cause for concern in Bikita for allegedly disturbing functions and terrorising villagers.
In a pathetic scene, Elson together with one of his brothers , Solomon, equally notorious and nonsensical reportedly assaulted, Mbuya Mukwena, who suffered internal casualties which she sustained up to her death on 16 January 2022.
People who spoke on condition of anonymity in fear of victimisation by Bhudhi said life has turned orgy and urgent assistance was needed.
“This man (Elson Mabasa) with his brother have been involved in other crimes with the same family like destruction of property, stealing goats and sheep and cutting barbed wire fence of the Mukwena family.
“Ironically, Elson claims to be a headman/Sabhuku which is not known by the local government. He just claims so yet he stays in Mukwena Village, it is not known where he gets that courage and there are suspicions of him having bribed the chief with a beast, however the District Administrator is yet to know this issue” said sources at Chiremwaremwa township where Bhudhi is always stationed.
Sources said two escaped imprisonment, but were given peace order which they violated on the burial of the hapless old woman.
At the funeral, they unashamedly caused commotion only to be removed by ZR Police who had attended the funeral.
They looted food before they were ordered to leave by by two police officers who were present.
Thirteen days later, on the 29 of January, the same Elson Mabasa made a false police report that he was assaulted at the funeral but begged the police not to make the issue a court case, his main fear being that of the stern warning he had been given at Bikita magistrates court.
However, he kept on pestering the police about the same issue, prompting the police to come to the Mukwena family to get the full details, only to discover that they had been used, he was lying.
These Mabasas are a nuisance everywhere they are, rather barbaric and hooliganism at general meeting, school meetings insulting head of Tabudirira High school Mr Mukwena and the local councillor.
They (Mabasa family members) are on record of grabbing positions at a local primary school Godfrey Mabasa(Munorwei) and Ndakaitei Mabasa forcibly secured themselves posts of chairperson and secretary of BEAM selection committee, respectively.
Unfortunately, Godfrey is campaigning to be MDC Alliance councillor.
Last year, the same people where at the chiefs court for defying the authority of Headman Mukwena.
They are rude and lack respect and even plough wherever they want defying the authority of local government.

ARREST OF PROSPER BUHLE FOR 17 COUNTS OF RAPE CASES.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Prosper Buhle (29), in connection with a spate of rape and robbery cases which occurred in Bulawayo and surrounding areas during the period extending from December 2018 to March 2022.
The suspect would approach the victims and masquerade as a bonafide messenger who had been sent to deliver some goods by relatives of the victims before asking the victims to accompany him. The suspect would use foot-paths passing through bushes where he would rape the victims and thereafter steal their cellphones, money and any other valuables possessed by the complainants.
The suspect was finally arrested on 17th March 2022 in Luveve, Bulawayo after Police received a tip from the public. An identification parade was conducted and the suspect was positively identified by 17 complainants. Police are urging the public to avoid being duped and tricked by strangers who approach them without prior communication from their relatives on the pretext that they may have parcels for collection through third parties.

Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has bemoaned the scourge of corruption, which he says has resulted in US$1,8 billion being lost through illicit financial flows (IFFs).
Addressing party supporters at Rujeko grounds in Masvingo on Sunday, Chamisa promised that if elected into power, his government would legislate for life sentences for corrupt individuals.
“Corruption has killed the country. US$1,8 billion is lost through illicit financial flows and the billions are being enjoyed by a few individuals. When we get into power, corruption charges will attract life sentences,” Chamisa said.
“Those doing shady deals . . . the first thing we are going to do is to review all decisions that were not made or done in the national interest. If the deals are not helping the country, we will reverse them,” he said.
In a 2022 national budget strategy paper, the Zimbabwe Coalition for Debt and Development (Zimcodd) said IFFs were increasingly becoming a cause of concern globally, adding that they would impact negatively the realisation of sustainable development goals (SDGs).
“The obvious impact of illicit financial flows is loss of revenue much-needed for the attainment of SDGs, hence they prejudice countries of millions and billions of dollars which would have been channelled towards domestic consumption and for private and public investment,” Zimcodd said.
Turning to local authorities, Chamisa said his party would review the Local Government Act to ensure that political parties will not have the power to recall councillors elected by the people as well as to separate powers of central government and local government.
“Local government is being destroyed by the central government. We do not want councillors to be selected without an executive mayor. We want the return of the executive mayors who are elected by the people so that they are accountable to you. If he does not perform, you remove him — not what is happening now where the Minister of Local Government can remove mayors.
“We want to give power to the local authorities and the right to recall to citizens and not political parties. We are going to restore Masvingo as one of the ancient cities. We are also going to develop other cities, for instance, Bulawayo as the hub of industrialisation, Gweru as the administrative capital and Masvingo as the hub of logistics because you are strategically located.”
He said his government would dollarise the economy and after stabilising it, re-introduce the local currency backed by gold.

By Nyasha Tatenda Manuwere| As the election season looms in Zimbabwe, young people in Zimbabwe, myself included, will have an opportunity to vote out a government that we feel has robbed us of our future.
It is an open secret that youths in Zimbabwe face challenges such as unemployment (about 70% of Zimbabwe’s youths are unemployed), unaffordable education, human rights violations and lack of access to health care due to excessive poverty, forced mobility (migration) due to limited opportunities, child marriages and sexual abuse of young women among others.
We have a demographic superiority, which means we can skew next year’s election.
According to official figures, Zimbabwe’s youths constitute about 68 per cent of the country’s population and about 75 per cent of the voters.
If we participate in huge numbers, we have the power to decide who wins the elections.
Failing to participate in this election will have a negative effect and also gives room for rigging or vote manipulation by the ruling party.
For how long are we going to mourn over the shoulders of our oppressors?
It is time to vote for someone who ensures that there is medication in hospitals, road rehabilitation and someone who stabilizes prices of commodities.
Change in leadership is the only way forward. It is high time we vote for a young person who can well represent us and change our lives through employment creation.
However, this can only be possible if we go out in our numbers register to vote and vote on election day which are due sometime later next year.
Youth in Zimbabwe have a paramount role to play in the upcoming general election and should utilize the elections as an opportunity to take up space on governance decision-making tables.
Young people’s participation in governance processes particularly in the electoral process is one of the means through which democracy in the country can be entrenched and transparency and accountability achieved.
The upcoming elections in Zimbabwe present a unique opportunity for the young generation to break away from historical associations with pre- and post-election violence. This time, they have the chance to shatter this stereotype and resist attempts by certain leaders to manipulate them into becoming agents of political violence.
Despite significant challenges such as youth unemployment, limited access to quality education meeting market demands, child marriages, sexual abuse, drug abuse, mental health issues, and a rising cost of living, we must register to vote and vote in next year’s election.
As young Zimbabweans we must use next year’s election to vote on social issues and elect like-minded young leaders. This should serve as a warning to the older generation, who have held on to power by all means possible.
I would like to express my gratitude to those that have already taken action to register to vote. The action my generation is taking gives me hope that we can establish a democracy in Zimbabwe we can be proud of.
The future is in our hands. We must decided our own destiny by voting out bad leaders and vote for leaders that have people, in particular, the youths at heart. It’s now or never! Let’s SHOW UP on election day!

Former ZEC ICT director, Pamela Mapondera, is suing the commission for unlawful dismissal.
“Former ZEC Director for ICT, Pamela Mapondera, has filed a lawsuit at the Labour Court for unlawful dismissal.
ZEC had recently terminated her contract.
ZEC must not victimize employees for doing their job, but rather, all ZEC commissioners must resign,” Team Pachedu said in a statement.
Heal Zimbabwe Trust has expressed concern at the announcement by ZEC that polling agents are not allowed to carry mobile phones into voting centres.

Lawyers representing Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) supporter Godfrey Karembera, who was allegedly brutally tortured in police custody, have accused the police of falsely claiming that he had attempted to deface Mbuya Nehanda’s statue.
Karembera, affectionately known as Madzibaba Veshanduko, was being represented by human rights lawyer Douglas Coltart yesterday when he appeared before Harare magistrate Barbara Mateko.
Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi was quoted by the State media saying Karembera was arrested for trying to deface Mbuya Nehanda’s statue, an allegation which was not listed in the court papers.
But Coltart refuted the allegations, saying he was illegally arrested and detained. He said Karembera was actually over-detained as he was arrested on Thursday at 0830am and attended to on Saturday at 2pm.
He said evidence provided by Karembera’s doctor Jonathan Fernandes, who examined him at the Harare Central Police Station was that he had fresh bruises and lacerations caused by beating.
Coltart said Fernandes revealed that Karembera was struggling to walk due to the beating on his feet, while he had a swollen eye.
He said Karembera failed to appear in court because he was in bad state at Parirenyatwa Hospital where he is admitted.
Karembera was arrested for wearing CCC regalia in the Harare central business district by one Constable Manyeruke and others. They then brutalised him.
“Nyathi is quoted saying the accused person was arrested for attempting to deface the Mbuya Nehanda statue. There was no allegation relating to that on the court papers and it is common cause that the accused was more than 300 metres away from the Mbuya Nehanda statue. Nyathi lied and we don’t know where he got that from. He wanted to create his own narrative after the abuse of the CCC activist,” Coltart said.
Mateko postponed the matter to today for continuation of the application challenging Karembera’s placement on remand. The complainant is being represented by Brilliant Thembelani Nyathi.
It is alleged that on March 17 at the intersection of Julius Nyerere Way and Nelson Mandela Avenue in Harare, the complainant was on duty and on patrol with other police officers when they met the accused person who was dressed in a yellow rob and chanting slogans.
The police officers advised him to stop, but he did not heed their call and allegedly insulted them, resulting in his arrest.
It is alleged that the accused person turned violent trying to resist arrest, but he was eventually subdued, handcuffed and taken to Harare Central Police Station.

A Zanu-PF supporter was last week arraigned before Gokwe magistrate Hilary Ndlovu for defacing opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) posters.
Vittalless Mukede (46) was charged under section 151(1)(a) of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13) which prohibits defacing of other candidates’ posters.
Prosecutor Romeo Zibani told the court that Mukede of Sando village, Chief Chireya in Gokwe destroyed campaign posters placed by Chengetai Dzikamunhenga at Cee Jay special bar and at V Saitis complex at Mtora business centre in Gokwe North.
The posters had portraits of CCC leader Nelson Chamisa and ward 23 candidate Munyaradzi Nyati.
Mukede allegedly said he did not want to see any CCC posters in the area.
Dzikamunhenga gathered the torn pieces and took them to police in Nembudziya where he filed a report.
Ndlovu postponed the matter to today for continuation of trial.

Zanu-PF Bulawayo provincial chairperson Jabulani Sibanda has called on the ruling party to renounce violence.
Sibanda said this while addressing a Zanu-PF rally at Mkoba Stadium in Gweru at the weekend where he told party supporters that violence was evil and should not be tolerated in Zanu-PF.
The country is set to hold by-elections to fill 28 parliamentary and 127 council seats on Saturday.
He also said tribalism was detrimental to development.
Zanu-PF has been accused of perpetrating violence during the run-up to the elections.
On February 27, Zanu-PF supporters disrupted a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rally in Kwekwe where an opposition activist, Mbongeni Ncube, was killed while 17 others were injured.
“Violence is an evil that we can never tolerate in Zanu-PF. It is our duty to defend our country through democratic elections. Let us shun tribalism because it has no room in a democracy,” Sibanda said.
“We have power as Zanu-PF and that power comes with great responsibility. Let us unite as a party because this party belongs to us all.”
Sibanda, who was expelled from Zanu-PF during the late former President Robert Mugabe’s era, said the ruling party should maintain its cell structures.
He also urged Zanu-PF to allow party members with potential to rise through the leadership ranks.
“Leadership, let us allow those with potential to grow. Let us allow the party to develop and let us allow our party to evolve progressively. We are one party defending our nation.”
He urged the youth to desist from drug and substance abuse, adding that they were not only detrimental to health, but that they were retrogressive to the development of the country.
The rally was meant to drum up support for the Zanu-PF Mkoba constituency candidate William Gondo ahead of the by-elections scheduled for Saturday.
A 66-year-old war veteran collapsed and died while awaiting her turn to be vetted at Elangeni Training Institute in Bulawayo on Sunday.
The vetting process is also targeting non-combatant cadres, ex-political prisoners, detainees, restrictees and war collaborators in recognition of their contribution to the country’s liberation struggle.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the sudden death yesterday and identified the deceased as Nomathani Moyo.
“I can confirm that Moyo collapsed and died while she was in the queue during a vetting exercise at Elangeni Training Institute,” Ncube said.
Meanwhile, ex-Zipra fighters have complained that the time set for the vetting exercise was too short.
This came out during a Zipra Veterans Association vetting exercise held in Bulawayo last Friday.
During the meeting, war veterans expressed fears that they could miss the registration deadline.
The second phase of the 12-day vetting exercise began on Sunday.
The Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Economic Empowerment Programmes and Vetting Exercise was launched last year in June by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Under the second phase of the programme, applicants are supposed to report for vetting at various centres across the country’s 10 provinces where teams are deployed to ascertain their credentials.
Defence and War Veterans Affairs minister Oppah Muchinguri recently said war collaborators would be vetted from March 20 to 31, war veterans from March 20 to 31, non-combatant cadres from March 20 to 26, ex-political prisoners, and detainees and restrictees from March 20 to 26.

Former Zimbabwe Electoral Commission director for Information Communication Technology and voter delimitation, Pamela Mapondera has dragged the electoral body before the Labour Court for unlawfully terminating her contract.
Zec had terminated her contract accusing her of leaking the voters roll to political parties.
Mapondera who is represented by Ephraim Ndhlovu of Mabundu and Ndhlovu law chambers has cited Zec, and its chairperson Priscilla Chigumba as the first and second respondent.
By A Correspondent- Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association (BPRA) has embarked on an awareness campaign to encourage residents to vote at Nkulumane and Pumula in the Marck 26 by-election.
BPRA chairperson, Ambrose Sibindi said they organised a roadshow with a group of organizations that came together for a common cause, to try and encourage all residents to partake in the 26th March by elections, giving them the advantages and the disadvantages of voting.
“We were targeting Nkulumane and Pumula where elections are taking place, from the past experience we have realized that people are unwilling to participate in the by-elections. We are trying to avoid a tendency where residents will go around complaining about a particular representative who would have made it into parliament but to make their own choice,” he said.
BPRA secretary for administration, Thembelani Dube said the roadshow helped residents as burning issues were addressed.
“We encourage people to register to vote and be active participants in the electoral processes.The residents who had pertinent questions related to the upcoming by elections and the registration process in general got immediate response,” he said.
Dube said the residents had no information on when the voters rolls for the councillors and house of assembly were closed and on the importance of voting, unaware of polling based voters rolls and the majority asked why it’s difficult for Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to decentralize their offices to wards,
The ruling Zanu-PF party has been accused of using drought, which is currently affecting most parts of the country, as a political tool to woo voters ahead of the March 26 by-elections.
Last week, Chief Bernard Marange in Chiadzwa in Manicaland appealed for food aid as most crops in his area have wilted due to lack of rains.
Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Mutasa Central MP Trevor Saruwaka told NewsDay that most crops in the Mutasa district of Manicaland were a write-off, adding that the government should begin mobilising for food aid.
“The rains started well but the month of February was a total disaster, there were no rains to talk about.We have lost almost 80% of our crops in Mutasa Central constituency.
The government should start mobilising for food aid,” Saruwaka said.
“However, we are worried that drought has been used as a political tool whereby food aid is politicised and is distributed by the government through Zanu-PF officials,” he said.
But Zanu-PF Manicaland vice-chairperson Tawanda Mukodza dismissed Saruwaka’s claims.
“This is just a political gimmick, the government assists everyone regardless of political affiliation, and as Zanu-PF we have good policies that make the people vote for the party,” Mukodza said.
Zanu-PF Manicaland provincial chairperson Mike Madiro also recently said 90% of crops in the province were a total write-off. He appealed for urgent government support.
The ruling Zanu-PF party has been accused of politicising food aid in the past elections.
The country faces another drought year due to poor rains in the 2021/22 season.
The World Food Programme recently stated that US$65 million was required to ease the food crisis facing Zimbabwe where more than five million people are food insecure.

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) has reviewed downwards the price of fuel in line with the prevailing international oil prices.
The move brings relief to motorists who have experienced sharp increases in the past weeks due to the adverse impact of the Russia/Ukraine conflict.
In a public notice yesterday, Zera said the latest pricing structure where the price of both diesel and petrol have been reduced by margins of around two percent and five percent were applicable from yesterday to March 27.
According to Zera, the latest pump price for diesel is now $213,90 per litre or US$1,60 per litre while petrol is selling at $213,49 per litre and US$1,59 per litre.
A few weeks ago, Zera increased fuel prices citing increasing oil prices on the international market with the pump price for diesel reviewed to $218,01 per litre or US$1,68 per litre while petrol was pegged at $216,78 per litre and US$1,67 in forex.
“Prices have been set in accordance with oil price patterns on the international market, which the authority is continuously monitoring. The public and operators are advised that the blending ratio remains at E0,” said Zera.
“Operators may sell the petroleum products below the prescribed prices depending on their trading advantages and should display prices in a prominent place as provided for by the fuel pricing regulations.”
Since January last year, there has been increases in the Free on Board (FoB) prices for diesel and petrol, which has had a knock-on effect on the pump price of fuel. FoB refers to the costs of shipping the product.
However, in light of the latest fuel price hikes, economic analysts have attributed these to the Russia-Ukraine war given that supply has been cut off from Russia.
Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa has directed Government to enforce domestic remedies including a reduction of duty on petroleum products to control the price of fuel.
The fuel price has been rising in recent weeks on the international market due to geopolitical factors caused by Russia-Ukraine war.
A Toyota Prado that was recently hijacked in Banket has been recovered dumped in Epworth as more cases of carjacking, armed robberies and theft continue to increase countrywide.
The vehicle was hijacked on March 14 before the robbers drove it towards the city where they later dumped it in the Epworth area. The vehicle was found without the battery, but with the keys in the ignition.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said no arrests have been made and investigations are in progress.
“In another case, police in Bulawayo recorded a case of theft of a motor vehicle in which the complainant parked her Toyota Runx vehicle at her yard in Hillside on March 17 at about 5pm and discovered that it was stolen the following morning.
“Investigations are underway,” he said.
Meanwhile, police have warned members of the public against offering lifts to strangers in their private vehicles.
This comes after on Saturday at around 9pm, a 36-year-old Norton man lost a Toyota Runx (AFE 8580), US$80, $700 and an Itel cellphone to two armed robbers he had offered a lift near Whitehouse bus stop in Kuwadzana area.
The two had alleged that they were going to an area known as Kasa Banana Compound in Norton and along the way, they attacked and robbed the victim.
Police in Bulawayo are also investigating two cases of unlawful entry and theft into premises.
In one of the cases, which occurred at the intersection of Jason Moyo Street and 4th Avenue, an unknown suspect broke into a shop where he damaged a chub safe before stealing US$7 918, R2 150 and a laptop.
On the second incident, which occurred along Herbert Chitepo Street, another unknown thief broke into college offices and stole a chub safe which had four laptops and a MiFi router.
Investigations on the cases are in progress.
In Luveve, a 23-year-old man was robbed by four men who were armed with an axe, of US$352, R600, $9 000, a cellphone and a black satchel containing $550 000 worth of airtime last Wednesday at around 6pm.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa reportedly quizzed Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga over the ZRP’s frequent ban on Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) campaign rallies across the country.

However, the sources further said it was not clear whether Mnangagwa was genuine in his probing since only two days later, police in Masvingo banned CCC’s rally on the pretext that ZANU PF had booked the same venues ahead of the Nelson Chamisa-led opposition.
The rally only went ahead after the Masvingo High Court quashed the police ban and instructed the police to provide the necessary security.
It also turned out that the ruling party did not have any rallies planned for either Mucheke or Mamutse Stadium as police claimed. The stadiums were empty all day.

MDC-T leader Thokozani Khupe has officially announced that her party will rally behind Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) to bring change in the country.
Khupe made the announcement at a Press conference in Bulawayo yesterday where she told journalists that her party members will rally behind CCC candidates in Saturday’s by-elections and the 2023 general elections.
“We have agreed that we must come together, unite, join hands and rally behind Advocate Nelson Chamisa because come 2023, there is no doubt that he is going to be the President of the republic of Zimbabwe,” Khupe said.
“During my previous Press conference, I announced that very soon we will be joining a formidable party so that citizens can experience change. All MDC-T supporters should vote for the CCC candidates on March 26,” she said.
Khupe said her decision to rally behind Chamisa was a result of talks between her party and the CCC leadership, whereby it was agreed that they must first gather views on the issue from members of the public before an announcement is made.
Khupe, who is blamed for Chamisa’s failure to gain power during the 2018 elections, also said her party leadership was going to come up with a programme to integrate the MDC-T and CCC.
“We do not have conditions, everyone needs change and if fails to go to State House, we are back to square one,” she said.
The developments came a few months after Khupe was fired by MDC Alliance leader Douglas Mwonzora from the party and recalled from Parliament. She then declared a split from the MDC Alliance and announced that she was the leader of MDC-T.
CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said Khupe, like any citizen, was welcome to join the party.
Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has insisted that his party would not contest the 2023 general elections if government does not allow the United Nations (UN) to observe the crunch vote.
Chamisa said this while addressing thousands of supporters during a campaign rally in Mutare Saturday ahead of this coming weekend’s by-elections.
“We have learnt from the past experiences, hence I wrote to SADC officials and some leaders from other countries including the United Nations,” he said.
“I informed them that we will not contest in 2023 elections without UN and conditions set up to assure the announcement of the real election winner.”
The opposition accuses the ruling Zanu-PF party of rigging previous elections and with Chamisa insisting that won the 2018 vote only to be cheated out of taking over power by the President Emmerson Mnangagwa-led regime.
Chamisa challenged the election outcome at the Constitutional Court but the petition was dismissed for lack of evidence.
On Saturday he told supporters that any election held without the participation of his new CCC party would not be credible.
“The election can only be conducted whilst we (CCC) are contesting. It takes two to tangle, we are the real owners of this country. Without CCC the nation will not be fully represented,” he said.
“Right now my brother Mnangagwa is moving with half loaded bus because the other half belongs to CCC.”
He challenged the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to put in place mechanisms to ensure a fair and credible ballot.
“When Zimbabweans went to war the main fight was for all citizens to attain one man/woman one vote,” he said.
“If you take a closer look, these days your vote can get you into hot soup. As it is, it seems people who fought for that vote died for nothing.
“We want to make sure that as we head towards the by-elections your vote must count. Some are asking if we will make it in the elections due to ZEC; ZEC is supposed to be a national institution.”
The country will this weekend hold by-elections in some 133 parliamentary and local authority consituencies which fell vacant mostly due to recalls by the opposition MDC-T party.

By A Correspondent- The government has released $1.75 billion as part payment to thousands of cotton farmers who were owed a combined $2.5 billion.
Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (Cottco) chief executive officer Pius Manamike told NewsDay Business yesterday that $1.75 billion had been paid in three tranches since the end of last year.
Government paid in three tranches, two tranches of $500 million each and then the third one of $750 million.
The balance is now $750 million and the plan is to have it paid off before the end of this month.
This comes as the government maintains incentives, including payment of an above market price, to encourage the production of cotton across the country.
There have been concerns that late payment to cotton farmers, along with those producing such crops as maize, was contributing to a drop in production levels.
Cotton farmers are mostly paid in Zimbabwe dollars, which has been depreciating fast on both the parallel and official markets.
In many cases, affected farmers have ended up failing to procure inputs to return to production because of the depreciation of the local currency.
Cotton output has declined in the past decade, as farmers switched to other crops, such as tobacco, where they are paid in foreign currency.
Manamike said it was too early to make production estimates for the new season.
However, there have been concerns across the country that a mid-season dry spell that affected other crops could affect cotton output.
Cottco is also mulling introducing micro-ginneries as part of its strategic remodelling, which is expected to see the company investing in oil production and fabric weaving technology.
Cottco is on an expansion drive that will see it transform into one of Africa’s biggest cotton dealers within 10 years.
By A Correspondent| Four Nelson Chamisa supporters in Kadoma have been arrested for conducting door to door campaigns for their party candidate ahead of Saturday’s by-elections.
The four now stands accused of “criminal nuisance” with the CCC party condemning the selective application of law by the police as Zanu PF were also spotted in the same area doing similar activities.
The four include the interim Kadoma CCC chairperson, Edson Muzira (a councillor with Kadoma municipality), interim Youth Assembly provincial treasurer, Regis Mhishi and two other unidentified individuals.
“Our officials were arrested soon after a very successful Ward 13 campaign on Sunday, which left Zanu PF and partisan elements in the police force green with envy. The four officials are expected to appear at Kadoma Magistrate’s Court on Monday facing yet unclear charges,” said CCC Mashonaland West spokesperson Blessing Mandava.
He further condemned the selective application of the law by the police saying they were out to protect Zanu PF.
“We condemn partisan policing and the blocking of the people’s democratic space in order to protect Zanu PF’s hegemony. As citizens of this great nation, who are protected by freedoms and liberties as enshrined in the Constitution, therefore we call for the unconditional release of these four and other political detainees,” Mandava said.

The vetting process is also targeting non-combatant cadres, ex-political prisoners, detainees, restrictees and war collaborators in recognition of their contribution to the country’s liberation struggle.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Prosper Buhle (29), in connection with a spate of rape and robbery cases which occurred in Bulawayo and surrounding areas during the period extending from December 2018 to March 2022.
The suspect would approach the victims and masquerade as a bonafide messenger who had been sent to deliver some goods by relatives of the victims before asking the victims to accompany him. The suspect would use foot-paths passing through bushes where he would rape the victims and thereafter steal their cellphones, money and any other valuables possessed by the complainants.
The suspect was finally arrested on 17th March 2022 in Luveve, Bulawayo after Police received a tip from the public. An identification parade was conducted and the suspect was positively identified by 17 complainants. Police are urging the public to avoid being duped and tricked by strangers who approach them without prior communication from their relatives on the pretext that they may have parcels for collection through third parties.

I said that because this man has sat in the same room with Robert Mugabe, he has seen what Robert Mugabe did in the country.
Maybe, he is really interested in turning things around… This man played a role as far as Gukurahundi is concerned, the massacre of over 20 000 people in Matabeleland.

I was actually approached and I agreed to serve in the presidential advisory council, so I sat at close range with the President advising him on a number of issues but I have since retired, stepped down because I can see this thing is not going to end well.
The lesson that we have gotten, all of us, is that anyone who embarks on a coup does not usually do so because they want to promote democracy, widen economic prosperity and so forth.
The people that launched the coup in Zimbabwe were interested in protecting their small personal interests, ethnic interests, business interests and economic interests.

Lawyers representing Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) supporter Godfrey Karembera, who was allegedly brutally tortured in police custody, have accused the police of falsely claiming that he had attempted to deface Mbuya Nehanda’s statue.
Karembera, affectionately known as Madzibaba Veshanduko, was being represented by human rights lawyer Douglas Coltart yesterday when he appeared before Harare magistrate Barbara Mateko.
Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi was quoted by the State media saying Karembera was arrested for trying to deface Mbuya Nehanda’s statue, an allegation which was not listed in the court papers.
But Coltart refuted the allegations, saying he was illegally arrested and detained. He said Karembera was actually over-detained as he was arrested on Thursday at 0830am and attended to on Saturday at 2pm.
He said evidence provided by Karembera’s doctor Jonathan Fernandes, who examined him at the Harare Central Police Station was that he had fresh bruises and lacerations caused by beating.
Coltart said Fernandes revealed that Karembera was struggling to walk due to the beating on his feet, while he had a swollen eye.
He said Karembera failed to appear in court because he was in bad state at Parirenyatwa Hospital where he is admitted.
Karembera was arrested for wearing CCC regalia in the Harare central business district by one Constable Manyeruke and others. They then brutalised him.
“Nyathi is quoted saying the accused person was arrested for attempting to deface the Mbuya Nehanda statue. There was no allegation relating to that on the court papers and it is common cause that the accused was more than 300 metres away from the Mbuya Nehanda statue. Nyathi lied and we don’t know where he got that from. He wanted to create his own narrative after the abuse of the CCC activist,” Coltart said.
Mateko postponed the matter to today for continuation of the application challenging Karembera’s placement on remand. The complainant is being represented by Brilliant Thembelani Nyathi.
It is alleged that on March 17 at the intersection of Julius Nyerere Way and Nelson Mandela Avenue in Harare, the complainant was on duty and on patrol with other police officers when they met the accused person who was dressed in a yellow rob and chanting slogans.
The police officers advised him to stop, but he did not heed their call and allegedly insulted them, resulting in his arrest.
It is alleged that the accused person turned violent trying to resist arrest, but he was eventually subdued, handcuffed and taken to Harare Central Police Station.- Newsday

There has been mixed reaction to the announcement by Dr. Khupe that MDC-T supporters should vote for Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidates in the coming by-elections and in the 2023 elections. Many are of the opinion that she has already joined the CCC. Some in the CCC are concerned that Dr. Khupe is an inconsistent person, with some also concerned that she may land a senior position at the expense of some loyal members. Some have said she has to apologise before she can be accepted into CCC.
I have followed Dr. Khupe’s press conferences, and I am aware she has acknowledged past mistakes. I agree she made very big mistakes, endorsing Mnangagwa’s victory, recalling parliamentarians who were elected by the citizens, and I agree with those who say she must apologise. I am not God to know how genuine Dr. Khupe is, so I take her word for it. If she decides to join the CCC, like most people will when membership opens, it is her choice. And if she ends up with a position, it is the people who will decide, and let it be.
I take the opportunity to encourage the CCC interim leadership to develop membership criteria as soon as possible after the by-elections, many people in the Diaspora are patiently awaiting to pay membership to the new party, and the membership fees will go some way in financing the party programs.

State Media – The cut in fuel prices by 8 US cents a litre following Government tax cuts has been welcomed by businesses and motorists who have been feeling the pinch after prices rose swiftly following the big jumps in global crude oil prices.
The rapid rise in crude oil prices following global recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and then the switches in supply chains as a result of the Russia-Ukraine conflict saw the retail prices in Zimbabwe rise to US$1,67 a litre for petrol and US$1,68 a litre for diesel.
The prices follow a formula that includes all costs, including the fuel duty, and maximum mark-ups for oil companies and service stations.
But following the intervention by Government, which promised to reduce the tax on each litre, a litre of petrol is now US$1,59 while diesel is now US$1,60.
In a statement on Sunday, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) encouraged operators to charge prices lower than the capped price depending on their trading advantages.
“Prices have been set in accordance with oil price patterns on the international market, which the authority is continuously monitoring,” said ZERA.
“The public and operators are advised that the blending ratio remains at E0 (that is no ethanol). Operators may sell the petroleum products below the prescribed prices depending on their trading advantages and should display prices in a prominent place as provided for by the fuel pricing regulations.
“Stakeholders are advised that the petroleum price released by ZERA can be verified on the official ZERA website, Facebook or Twitter handle.”
Motorists welcomed the new price announcement, adding that they hope the prices can remain stable.
Already Saudi Arabia, under pressure from major importing nations, has said it will pump more crude which global markets expect to stabilise crude oil prices, although at the new higher level.
While Zupco had maintained its fare structure, many in the grey and illegal public transport sector had been pushing up fares, quoting the price rises. The Zupco fleet is growing but is still not able to cope with the demand for public transport.
Ms Ruvimbo Makamadze, who is in the transport business, said the reduction of fuel prices definitely aids her operations.
“I am into transport and logistics and I was having a headache over the increase of fuel prices. It was affecting my operations but now I am relieved because the reduction of fuel prices means more business as some customers were no longer keen to hire my trucks due to cost adjustments.- Herald

The development comes 2 years after Mwonzora connived to frustrate Chamisa’s career by ganging up to lay charges that the latter is an illegal appointee. Riding on powers of a moot court order, Mwonzora illegally seized the party Harvest House building in May 2020, and also snatched away Chamisa’s political finances parliamentary allocation.
This time after Mwonzora’s gang leader Thokozani Khupe, Zimbabweans have thrown celebrations over Chamisa’s defeat over the whole plot.

“President Emmerson Mnangagwa has lost the support of some of his key allies including Local Government minister July Moyo who have stood with him throughout his political rise but are now being sidelined in favour of new faces.
Observers say the Zanu-PF leader may find himself isolated as fresh fights for the party leadership take centre stage ahead of the December congress.”
Firstly the congress is in October not in December. However we have noticed that the article is one of those articles used to seek relevance of some few people. In this case I will mention the names because they have been mentioned by the article.
The writer of the article went on to say
“Mnangagwa and his ambitious deputy, Constantino Chiwenga, are embroiled in a fight for the control of the party ahead of the congress and subsequently the 2023 elections and, in that race, the grassroots have been deeply divided and are at war.”
There is no fight in the presidium and president Mnangagwa has a constitutional right to stand again in 2023.
The writer is not telling the truth his writing is a paid piece of work to give relevance to the few people. The minister of Local Government did not in any way assist President Mnangagwa to ascend to the throne. This assertion that July Moyo played a great role is not true. Minister July Moyo only entered active Politics in 2001. Before then he was a civil Servant but became the Governor of Midlands Province after the death of Colonel Herbert Malhaba. His appointment to the governorship was made possible by the recommendation of President Mnangagwa who was a mister at that time. Minister July Moyo
was nowhere near the Sheraton conference centre in 1999 when the late John Nkomo was elected as Chairman of ZANU-PF neither did he actively campaign for ED to be voted into that post.
Cde July Moyo is actually the one who rose on the back of President Mnangagwa not the other way round.
There plenty information on proper details on who were some of the participants in promoting the idea that ED takes over the Chairman’s post from Hon Msika who had been elavated to the post of Vice president.
It is very clear that minister July Moyo or whoever was the author of that shameless article is plotting a comeback and consolidation. He is aware what awaits July Moyo and he pens down an article trying to give relevance to cde July Moyo.
The people who stood up for Mnangagwa when it was necessary some of them have been sidelined or forgotten. July Moyo must remember that there was a lot of people who were expelled from ZANU PF including minister Muchinguri,Honourable Chris Mutsvangwa, Honourable Kembo Mohadi and a lot more. July Moyo was not in the list of those fired or those to be arrested.
There was a list of people who were meant to arrested on sight and were only saved by the intervention of the army. July Moyo’s name was mot there.
We have people who confronted president Mugabe trying to convince him to change his attitude on ED. We have cde ID Tizora who was insulted by the then first lady and accused of being a Lacoste. Tizora was told off and he was meant to be fired when minister Chombo told the then president that Tizora was a Mnangagwa person. For his efforts and fighting for ED Tizora was labelled G40 and was removed from state house.
The president ED was fed wrong information and many people who stood for the new dispensation were sidelined because minister July Moyo and the former minister of state security fed the president with lies.
Therefore the article is not true and it meant to intimidate the president to keep minister Moyo in the office and to bring back Muda Ncube to government.
It should be known that Muda Ncube indeed is a faithful party cadre.
He loved president Mugabe with all his heart. He was actually called Muda Mugabe. The one who loves Mugabe. He only publicly showed his love for ED after the 2017 restore legacy. We should understand that Mugabe was our leader and even unto his death we the Zimbabweans cherished and loved him.
It is clear that there are people who want to hold the president at ransom by asking him not to grow and remain glued to the old friends. A threat and intimidation to the president does not work. The president is seen as though he has left behind those he used to be with before he was the president. This is an analysis which is wrong and shows a sense of ant growth.
In leadership it is known that leadership expires and it is not vested in one person forever. A leader to day will not be the same leader years later. What gave him status at his time seizes. The idea that those who were important to you should remain your friends is wrong.
Leadership has an expiry date and during the times of leadership one makes friends and drop some. Friends come and go from primary to university we have different class of friends. The process of growing has its own class of friends.
The friends you meet at the creche will change when you go to grade 1. They keep changing as you go to another class. This creates peer ship. Every stage has its own class of friends.
For someone to think that the president is threatened by missing of some names or by not counting on old friends is not true. It is unfounded threat which lakes critical thinking and research. We must remember that Life and processes of life are not static. They evolve and every stage of human development has its necessities and those that can help to achieve those necessities.
The analysis in the article intimidating the president is done by one who has overstayed his welcome.
The writer of the false article brings in the Tsholotsho and Dingane debacle.
The Tsholotsho and Dingane project failed because of the class of people involved. So it is not sensible to say because you were part of the failed plot so you must be always remembered. The fight against the G40 was not an individual fight. It was a fight for change for the good of the citizens and the party. Yes there are those who believe that they are owes a lot by the president. This is a wrong attitude and must not be encouraged. We must as-well remember that those who championed the new dispensation were a new team.
We can not survive on assumptions.
It is unreasonable for any one to threaten the president because he feels his position is no longer safe. The president can not keep himself glued to a small kit of people he met during the war. It is reasonable that the president move away from those people and create a new team because the times have changed.
It is not true that he is getting away with those who helped him to be where he is. We have people who want yo hold the president at ransom. So the minister who was never fired by Mugabe was a loyal to Mugabe can not be accused of being G40.
The rumours that President Mnangagwa is now without key loyalists who stood with him in successive fights, including Moyo and former State Security minister Owen Ncube, among others are nothing but an attempt to hold the president at ransom.
It is wrong to say cde July Moyo was the pillar of ED’s rise to power. There are many people who stood up and fought for the new dispensation.
Zimbabwe did not stand for an individual but for positive reformation of the party. It was never about one person but the party.
The president can not remain glued to one set of friends. The president does not use his office to lift his friends up the ladder of power.
We must realise that the president works with people because he has trust in them. Some of the people who work with him if he had a way he would have thrown them away.
Surely if people work for the country so that they can get a position the country will have no purpose. We must learn to work for the country not for a reward.
The article then must not be taken serious. We all move on we have not kept the same persons as friends since grade one. We have moved on and we must move on.
No one must claim that they have worked hard for ED. Thats not true. Many Zimbabweans have worked hard to change the system.
Shame on those who seek a reward for their part in having the new dispensation in motion. All what was sone was for Zimbabwe. Those who suffered for ED received no reward. But those who were hiding behind their wives now come up and claim the front seats.
Zimbabwe needs you and you must come and work for zimbabwe.

Ambitious Northern Region Division One side Golden Eagles have parted ways with head coach Joel Lupahla.

CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe was left excited by Nqobizitha Masuku’s equaliser in their 1-1 league draw against Highlanders on Sunday.

I was one of those people who stood up and said give Emmerson Mnangagwa a chance and how wrong I was! But why did I say that?
I said that because this man has sat in the same room with Robert Mugabe, he has seen what Robert Mugabe did in the country.
Maybe, he is really interested in turning things around… This man played a role as far as Gukurahundi is concerned, the massacre of over 20 000 people in Matabeleland.

The rash of the secondary syphilis is non itchy, generalised maculopapular rash.
There is usually generalised lympadenopathy and there may be sores in the mouth. All system s can be affected in secondary syphilis.

It is not going well with Masvingo preacher Isaac Makomichi (aka prophet Main Event) who is currently in Cape Town on a mission to shut the satanic church in South Africa.
Several videos were posted showing Makomichi in Cape Town. Sources said they managed to take Makomichi to the church but the leaders decided to call highly armed security guards.The witnesses also said the full information would be available soon.
