US “Ignores” ED

By A Correspondent- US President Joe Biden has invited 100 heads of states from across the globe for a virtual two-day roundtable which will be held in December.

Of note, most of the SADC countries, save for Zimbabwe, are expected to attend the Democracy Summit.

Tanzania and Eswatini will also not attend. Eswatini is plagued with political problems while Tanzania have also not been invited.

While the public diplomacy section of US Foreign Affairs said it would not comment on how each country was selected, it added the summit would be an opportunity “for world leaders to listen to one another and to their citizens, share successes, drive international collaboration, and speak honestly about the challenges facing democracy so as to collectively strengthen the foundation for democratic renewal”.

The summit will be followed by another sometime next year, where Biden will host 100 world leaders in the District of Columbia.

“The December 9 to 10 Virtual Summit for Democracy will bring together leaders from a diverse group of the world’s democracies. In roughly a year’s time, a second in-person summit will take place,” the department said in a statement.

But for Zimbabwe, it is a diplomatic loss after President Emmerson Mnangagwa claimed to his supporters on his return from the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow he had discussions with Biden who promised to look into sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe.

A research fellow at the University of Witwatersrand, Dr William Mpofu, said Zimbabwe was failing to uphold human rights, freedom of expression, democracy and the rule of law which was basic tenets required from it.

“If you look at the diplomatic performance of Zimbabwe, all the attempts to re-engage and even join the Commonwealth, they have been ‘Idi Amin’ in nature. As a statesman [Mnangagwa] should do better than lying to the people,” he added.

According to global human rights and democracy think tank Freedom House, Zimbabwe’s status in the past two years had deteriorated from partly free to not free due to the authorities’ intensifying persecution of opposition figures and civic activists.

Despite strained relations, the US is the single biggest country offering donor assistance to Zimbabwe.

Since independence in 1980, it has spent at least US$3.5 billion through initiatives such as food security, support for economic resilience and health outcomes.-

Tswibidi/Twabam: An Abstract Take on A Young #Zimbabwe Material Consciousness

By Takura Zhangazha| So a young Zimbabwean cde in his professional work with me was in conversation explaining how certain things work. He then used a specific turn of phrase about how you realize that everything is sorted.

This was a turn of phrase that related to a popular social media religious influencer called Passion Java. And verbatim he sort of says that when all else is done (as planned) it will be “Tswibidi, Twabam”. It was as funny as it was telling because there is no official language that recognizes such phrases.

Except for the new found language of young Zimbabweans that have a tendency to go with whatever suits their fancy. Upon reflection I realized that while the young cde who assisted me with a specific task did not really take it as seriously as I would, it was a part of his everyday consciousness via language and more significantly, via social media.

And this is a very difficult point to make unless you are an engrossed academic or social media aficionado (please google aficionado). The casual verbal statement of popular or trending phrases is generally indicative of an emerging cultural consciousness that cannot be ignored.

Even if it appears distasteful for some but in reality it is a bit more sophisticated, or even existential (if you are an academic that has Sartre or Beauvoir) tendencies. What it pointed to was an emerging hegemonic narrative about what Zimbabwean society is and what it can be.

Not only from the lenses of those that would be at the material/intellectual infancy of their lives but also those that would prefer a more ordered approach to what they consider ‘progress’ in Zimbabwean society.

It is a narrative that no longer resides in libraries let alone a critical consciousness revolutionary assumption of what our society should look like in the future. It’s a reality based on its own reality. In the moment. And I will explain this within the context of a Zimbabwean reality.

On a number of occassions I have had abstract conversations with colleagues and cdes about what it is that informs the contemporary Zimbabwean consciousness. In most of these chats the answers have hovered around at least three aspects; materialism, pursuit of multiple recognitions and fashionability or high individualization of opinions (which is linked to the latter).

It is a regrettable narrative of an assumption of material arrival. And this is across all classes (bourgeoisie , comprador bourgeoisie, middle class, working class, peasantry) . Or assumptions of what would be lived realities.

But this is where we are. Something that Prof Masipula Sithole would have referred to as an assumption that we could all live the ‘good life’. Which basically meant an urban tranquil existence while comparatively looking down at those that never ‘arrived’.

But back to the young cde who was using language that dominates social media. All based on influencers and their perspective on things. I admit that I do not know if he did it deliberately or by default. But what was clear is that it was almost part of his natural being as he spoke. His impressionability could have been taken as abstract.

The reality of the matter is that it is what a lot of young Zimbabweans are thinking and feeling at the moment. At least those that have access to electricity and social media. Be they in country or in the Diaspora. What we however need to realise is that this consciousness is as ephemeral as it would be ahistorical. Social media influencers invariably will be here today and gone tomorrow.

Including those that claim to be prophets or people with access to money that are followed by elaborate, choreographed arrivals in Ghetto streets. There is an interesting perspective to this.

This being that we have to understand a specific reality about how young Zimbabweans view their society and their futures. In the main this is about materialism, opulence in context and/or departure from a metaphoric cesspit that would be Zimbabwe.

Something which I find completely understandable particularly given the biased leanings of our mainstream education system which is designed to admire other peoples’ societies. The challenge then becomes how we re-emerge from a national consciousness that while touting liberation and Pan Africanism assumes that we need specific historical gazes to be regarded as human.

That is a task that is as hard as it is time bound by way of age and/or a lack of understanding of the need for a new historical progressive consciousness. The task(s) ahead for Zimbabwe and its cohort of parents or people still enabling the next generation to flourish is to be a bit more realistic and perhaps re-examine our own individualistic values. We need to look a bit more inward.

Our children are our collective children. The more we try and assume an outward presence to their being. The more they become distant from us or what we consider our values. As an abstract but relatively personal conclusion, I will most certainly teach my children that in part, whatever their individual decisions, they are within their right to be here, at home, in Zimbabwe.

Govt In Selective Approach To Bonus Payment

By A Correspondent- The government has announced that it will pay US dollar year-end bonuses to former liberation war-fighters.

Defence and War Veterans Affairs Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri announced Kariba. She said the liberation war veterans were set to receive end-of-year bonuses denominated in United States Dollars.

Muchinguri-Kashiri announced during her address to the military top brass at a 2022 strategic planning workshop in Kariba.

“Already, a commitment has been made by Treasury to pay war veterans bonuses this year, a part of which is likely to be in foreign currency. Measures are also being taken to improve the benefits of the veterans further.
The ministry also has obligations to administer the welfare services of veterans of the liberation struggle. And as we plan for 2022 and beyond, it is critical for us not to leave them behind. They are an important constituent of our society by virtue of the sacrifices towards Mother Zimbabwe from the jaws of colonial bondage”.

“In this regard, it’s noteworthy that the ministry, to date, has managed to institute a Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Board, which was launched by His Excellency the President (Emmerson Mnangagwa).”

“Low Tarriffs Hinder ZESA Retooling”: ZNCC

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) Wednesday said the government should grant power producer, ZESA Holdings, authority to hike power tariffs and give impetus to its recapitalisation plan.

In a submission to the Finance and Economic Development ministry spelling out its expectations for the 2022 national budget, the ZNCC said low tariffs have held back ZESA from retooling.

The ZNCC said with sustainable tariffs, the State-run power utility could attract private investors.

ZNCC said:

ZESA (must be allowed) charge cost-reflective tariffs that attract independent power producers (IPPs) in line with the IPP policy.

Promote alternative energy sources. We propose that the government maintains the customs duty on solar products at 0% for the financial year 2022.

With ageing power stations, ZESA has struggled to raise capital to revamp its struggling infrastructure.

Three of the State-run power producer’s power stations have been operating at about 10% of installed capacity.

The result has been rolling blackouts that have threatened growth targets, and also left domestic consumers in dire straits.

Pressure has been mounting on the broke government to bail out the power utility.

ZESA is undertaking the US$1.5 billion Hwange Thermal Power Station expansion alone, but with industries expecting to increase production in the coming years, analysts say this falls short of the capacity required to underpin industrial recovery.

While Zimbabwe’s power tariffs rank among the lowest in southern Africa, consumer rights groups have warned that a hike can worsen the socio-economic crisis in the country

Clashes Over Vending Bays

By A Correspondent- Members of the governing Zanu PF Tuesday clashed with Vapostori over vending bays from Joshua Nkomo street to Fife Street along 5th Avenue in Bulawayo.

When the Southern eye crew arrived at the scene, there was pushing and shoving as they jostled for marked vending bays, with municipal police struggling to contain the situation that was fast blowing out of hand.

Some Zanu PF members in party regalia claimed they deserved to occupy the vending bays while members of the apostolic sect  claimed the space was reserved for them.

One of the vendors, who only identified himself as Tendai said the place was reserved for apostolic sect members.

He said:

This place had been closed because of the lockdown and before that, it belonged to Vapostori.

That is why you see that there are a lot of Vapostori here.

We got here early in the morning and we were surprised that bays are now being forcibly taken by Zanu PF members. We will not allow this to happen.

Mayor Solomon Mguni condemned the clashes accusing “a section of Zanu PF youths” of taking the law into their own hands by barricading sections of 5th Avenue from Joshua Nkomo Street to Fife Street and allocating each other vending bays on a public road.

He added that Bulawayo City Council was working on a government policy to decongest the central business district and decentralise fresh produce markets to suburban areas.

Mguni said no political party had a right to allocate vending bays, insisting such a task was the responsibility of council.

Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial chairperson Obert Msindo said he was not aware of the clashes.

Zanu PF Advocates For US$ Pensions For War Vets

Pension

By A Correspondent- Umzingwane legislator Levi Mayihlome (ZANU PF) has urged the government to pay pensioners including war veterans a minimum of US$200 in monthly pensions.

Mayihlome’s call for US dollar pensions comes hardly a month after a group of disgruntled ex-combatants were arrested after protesting in central Harare demanding an upward review of their monthly stipends.

In his contribution to a motion in reply to the State of the Nation Address (SONA) and the presidential speech on the official opening of the Fourth Session of the Ninth Parliament, Mayihlome said ex-combatants and other pensioners were living like paupers.

Mayihlome said:

The pension should at least be reviewed upwards to a minimum of about US$200 per month for all pensioners, including war veterans so that at least they have a decent life.

I would want to talk about the National Social Security Authority pensions.  My plea is that the Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare ministry needs to review these pensions.

They reviewed it upwards from US$15 to US$45 and now it is going to be US$60 per month per individual, but who can live on US$60 per month?

These are people who have contributed to the development of this country. They worked hard all their lives. They toiled making major investments, some of which have been the pride of this country, yet we expect them to live on US$60 per month. It’s not fair.

Last year, the government adjusted pensions for the former freedom fighters to cushion them against the rising cost of living but inflation has left many failing to afford basics.

Meanwhile, civil servants have been pushing for the restoration of the US$540 average earned before October 2018 but the government says the demand cannot be met due to the scarcity of foreign currency.

The government promised to periodically increase their salaries. Some workers, including teachers, are earning an average of US$100.

ED’s Chimanimani Bound Helicopters Makes U-turn, Lands In Golf Course

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s two Chimanimani-bound helicopters were Wednesday forced to make a U-turn after reaching Mutare only to land in a golf course in Marondera.

NewsDay reports that one of them landed awkwardly, triggering fears that it could have developed technical fault mid-air.

Mnangagwa was on his way to Chimanimani, Manicaland province, to officially open Jopa-Kopa highway which was washed away by Cyclone Idai two years ago.

Witnesses said one of the helicopters landed awkwardly at around 8 am suggesting that it could have developed a technical fault.

Security details in Marondera rushed to the scene soon after the helicopters landed, with Mnangagwa’s motorcade arriving 45 minutes later to whisk him away.

Mnangagwa later proceeded to Chimanimani by road, forcing changes to the programme after arriving late for the event.

Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa dismissed speculation that the choppers had developed technical faults, saying they were forced to land in Marondera due to bad weather.

She said:

No, nothing like that happened. You can check with the presidential spokesperson George Charamba. But all I know is the President arrived late, his helicopters failed to land in Mutare due to bad weather and they returned to Marondera and later came by road.

This is not the first time Mnangagwa has been forced to abandon his helicopter.

Last month, he was forced to travel to Rutenga in Masvingo province by road after security concerns were raised over “faulty and aged” presidential helicopters.

In August, Mnangagwa’s chopper reportedly crash-landed about 65km from Harare when he was coming back to the capital from his Precabe Farm in Kwekwe.

In the same month, bad weather hindered Mnangagwa’s trip to Mutare, where he was expected to commission a medical oxygen and industrial gas plant at Feruka.

Zanu PF Indoctrinates School Heads

By A Correspondent- Several school heads in Mutasa district, Manicaland province were allegedly forced to attend an induction training facilitated by Zanu PF at the weekend, a development that has irked teachers who described it as “disturbingly unconstitutional”.

Teachers’ unions yesterday said the indoctrination sessions were taking place in different parts of the country.
Zanu PF information director Tafadzwa Mugwadi told NewsDay that there was nothing untoward about the “induction” meetings. He said Zanu PF drew its membership from all professions.
“There is nothing amiss with Zanu PF engaging the school heads, if ever there was such a meeting in Mutasa. In any case, the membership of the party cuts across headmasters, the nursing profession and other civil servants,” Mugwadi said.
It is alleged that the Mutasa Zanu PF induction training was held on Saturday and Sunday, and was facilitated by party provincial officials, members of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA), and army personnel.
ZNLWVA spokesperson Douglas Mahiya declined to comment on the issue.
The training programme came hardly two months after the Zanu PF Bulawayo province recommended that all civil servants compulsorily attend the ruling party’s Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology drills.
National Association of School Heads (NASH) secretary-general Munyaradzi Majoni said: “It’s unfortunate that with regards the said meetings, I am not privileged to be aware of such meetings but we cannot rule out the possibility.
“As far as I am concerned, our members have not been invited through us (NASH) to attend the meetings.”
Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (Artuz) president Obert Masaraure said the Zanu PF induction drills were illegal.
“These trainings are ongoing nationwide. The Constitution of the Republic proscribes civil servants from engaging in partisan business. Our ruling party is once again wantonly violating the Constitution it is expected to uphold,” Masaraure said.
“Learners are being denied full access to education as school heads are leaving schools unattended. Zanu PF should be ashamed of itself; the preoccupation with power retention by any means necessary is pathetic.”
Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) president Takavafira Zhou said the Zanu PF indoctrination lessons were not happening in Mutasa only.
“It is unfortunate that we are witnessing the “party-nisation” of government institutions, particularly the Ministry of Education. The reality is that there is a militarisation of the Education ministry with the whole essence of ensuring that personnel within the ministry are Zanu-nised.”
Mutasa Central MDC Alliance legislator Trevor Saruwaka confirmed that the induction meetings took place in his constituency.
“This is a violation of sections 200 and 208 of the Constitution,” Saruwaka said.
The provisions bar civil servants from engaging in party politics and furthering the interests or cause of any particular party.
“It is these unconstitutional acts that have taken Zimbabwe where it is today. Lawlessness by the ruling party and its institutions especially the security sector have cemented our status as a pariah State,” Saruwaka said.

Zodwa Wabantu ‘Slaps Patron’ For Touching Bum

By A Correspondent- South African socialite and dancer Zodwa Wabantu has warned her followers to respect her space.

Zodwa gave the warning when she was speaking to Daily Sun. She said that she was tired of people who thought they were entitled to spanking her bum and touching her when she was out enjoying herself.

She said when she was not working, people should understand and respect that.

“When I’m not working, I want to be treated normally. It’s a different story when I’m on stage, entertaining them. I understand that sometimes they get overwhelmed and act abnormally.
“But, I hate it when people think they are entitled to touching my body and ruin my happiness when I’m out with friends or my boyfriend. I don’t want b to test me. They must get off my space,” said Zodwa.
Recently, a woman claimed Zodwa had slapped her when she was dancing with her Ben 10 at the Recharge Braai Lounge in Midrand, Gauteng.
Responding to this, Zodwa said she did not slap the woman – she only asked her to respect her.
“I was dancing with my boyfriend and this woman kept on touching me. I asked her not to touch me. I even posted a video on Instagram, showing her spanking my bum while I was dancing with my boyfriend. I didn’t do anything. I continued dancing because I was tired of asking her not to do it. I think she is just a poverty low-thinker. If I’m in my space, don’t disturb or touch me. Rather respect and treat me as a normal person,” she said.

S_x Starved Sangoma Dumps Husband For Clients

By A Correspondent- A Norton traditional based healer has ditched her husband for her married clients claiming the spirit medium on her never wanted her to give her to sleep with her husband.

Felistas Chabata, 43, ditched her husband Percy Matsiwo, 47, in Buhera and relocated to Norton, which is her new operating base.

Chabata told H-Metro that she was also sex-starved as her spirit never wanted her to bed Matsiwo forcing her to seduce some of her married clients.
She admitted to bedding two married men Tawedzerwa Kutadza, 42, a security guard and Felix Gonde, 46, a member of the uniformed forces.
“I got married to Matsiwo six years ago as his second wife,” said Chabata. “We were staying in Borrowdale while his first wife was at the village in Buhera.
“When his first wife passed on he remained in Buhera for a long time claiming that he wanted more
“Ini ndinosvikirwa; ndiri svikiro zvangu asi ndinodawo nguva nemurume wangu. I was sexually starved for some time leading me to be satiated by some of my clients.
“One of the clients is Tawedzerwa Kutadza who admired me and got attracted to my wealth that he ended up introducing me to his wife and relatives.
“Kutadza wanted my money more than me and I decided to leave him.
“Ndiye munhu ari kurwadziwa nekurambwa iyeye; ndiye akazoenda kumurume wangu achimuudza zvekudanana kwangu naFelix Gonde.
“Kutadza is refusing to come and collect some of his clothes he left at my place.
“My husband heard about my illicit affairs and started sending love messages to me.
“He is now pretending to be a good person but he is the one who ditched me and is refusing to acquire a birth certificate for our child,” said Chabata.
Chabata told H-Metro that Gonde fell in love with her when he visited her place for help.
“Gonde is married, mudzimai wake ndewenhaka saka ari kudawo neni.
“He admired me and we ended up in a serious relationship that he promised to pay lobola this December.
“This matter was raised by Kutadza leading Matsiwo to take it to social media out of jealousy,” she said.
Chabata opened up to H-Metro that she would deny Matsiwo his conjugal rights due to spirit mediums possessing her.
“Semudzimai anosvikirwa pane imwe nguva yandaisada kurara nemurume zvekuti simba randinonzwa kana precast wall ndinosvetuka.
Ndinorara ndakagara usiku nekuti husiku ndipo masvikiro anorwisa vavengi.
“Spirit mediums do not entertain quarrels and that would force me to leave my husband and stay in mountains.
“Yes, there is time I need my husband to quench that sexual appetite and we enjoy that during the day mostly.
“Ndiri svikiro rine twunhu twaro saka Gonde naKutadza vose vanofarira kugara neni vachida mari dzangu.
“Kutadza stays in Warren Park and he wants me to support his family financially; no no hazvipere mushe nekuti aiuya otora grocery ondopa mhuri yake,” said Chabata.
Kutadza confirmed his illicit affair with Chabata but refused to shed more light.
“We once had an affair and she is the traditional healer who made headlines for stopping mysterious stones in Buhera,” said Kutadza.
“I will tell you more later,” he said.
Gonde confirmed his affair with Chabata saying he found her single only to hear about Matsiwo some weeks ago.
“I found Chabata not attached to any man, she was a single mother,” said Gonde.
“She told me that she had separated with Matsiwo some time back.
“The person fighting my affair with Chabata is her former lover Kutadza.
“Matsiwo is trying to bulldoze his way back into a relationship he quit while Kutadza is trying to find his way back,” said Gonde.
Chabata, born in Zvimba village, told H-Metro that her marriage to Matsiwo started when she was on a church mission in Buhera.
Asked if she was a traditional or a faith healer, Chabata said she uses spirit mediums in her prophecies.
“It’s time for technology so today’s generation believes in prophets that is why I conduct my services in the name of church but the truth is that spirit mediums lead me,” said Chabata.

Ginimbi The Man : 1984- 2020

Genius Kadungure(1984-2020)

By Simba Nyamadzawo

Ginimbi as controversial as he was, 3 facts are indisputable.

  1. Anga ariMbinga.
  2. He was famous and he will be missed by his legion of followers.
  3. He lived a happy life many would envy.

As someone who grew up in the same village -Domboshava ,in which Ginimbi hailed from ,it is hard for me to ignore his legacy and what it represents.

I took time to reflect on his legacy and analyze the allegations raised by his critics, unfortunately I could not reach a decisive point.

I last met Genius Kadungure in 2017 at Oliver Reginald Tambo International Airport, hatina kukurukura we just exchanged greetings as I was rushing to catch Gautrain. He asked me to phone him at the earliest convenient time. I phoned him a few days later and he said he is not yet back in the country we should touch base when he returns. I never made a follow up.

Ginimbi represents different things to different people. While a lot has been written about his riches, merry parties and flamboyant cars, very little is in public record about the Genius Kadungure Foundation, his philanthropic activities and generous deeds.

Inini hangu ndakazvimiririra what inspired me most about Gimimbi is the fact that he was proud of his home area and he never deserted it, to an extent of building a mansion there. That property will remain “standing” long after all the flashy cars have depreciated.
He proved beyond any reasonable doubt to the young boys and old men alike from Domboshava that it is possible for a villager to amass wealth and build a massive property kuJecha.

That mansion is a testament that he wanted to be associated with Domboshava. In some of his videos he addressed himself as “Ginimbi your boy from Domboshava.”

Someone once asked him kuti “Unoidi property isina maTitle Deeds?” and Ginimbi gave an unexpected answer.

“Shamwari, ndomadii maTitle Deeds? This house is not for sale, it is my home.”

Some will celebrate Ginimbi, others will find pleasure in criticizing him, others will take time to decipher the source of his wealth.
To us who hail from Domboshava, he remains one of us, a brother, a mbinga.

Rest In Peace Mutenhesanwa.

Headmasters Forced Into Chitepo Ideology Training

Several school heads in Mutasa district, Manicaland province were allegedly forced to attend an induction training facilitated by Zanu PF at the weekend, a development that has irked teachers who described it as “disturbingly unconstitutional.”

Teachers’ unions yesterday said the indoctrination sessions were taking place in different parts of the country.

Tafadzwa Mugwadi

– Newsday

Air Force Soldier Daughter Rejected Over Zim Dollar

Air Force of Zimbabwe Air Vice-Marshal Michael Moyo has taken Dominican Convent School to court for withdrawing an offer letter for his daughter after he refused to pay school fees in United States dollars.

Moyo, together with his wife, Sylvia, are seeking an order declaring the school’s decision unlawful and also an order compelling it to comply with Statutory Instrument (SI) 127/2021, also known as Presidential Powers Temporary Measures financial Laundering Amendment Regulations 2021.

Zimdollar_new bundle – file copy

The SI gives the central bank powers to impose penalties in the event of default in complying with exchange control regulations that govern use of funds obtained from the central bank forex auction system.

According to the court application, Moyo’s daughter has been learning at the school since Grade 1 and is now in Grade 7.

Earlier this year, his daughter allegedly applied for a Form 1 place at the school in line with the procedures.

The application and consideration were, however, merit-based and his daughter excelled, resulting in her being offered a place for the class commencing 2022.

In order to secure the place, they were advised to pay a development levy of US$1 500 by September 30, 2021.

Moyo said he went to the school on September 8 to settle the fees, but was told he could only pay in US dollars.

“The request for payment in strictly US dollar cash was surprising. That demand was the basis upon which I sought a meeting with the head to engage on the contents of the offer letter, particularly on the payment mode as I had intended to make payment for the accepted offer, albeit using the local currency at the official interbank rate,” Moyo said in his application.

His request for the meeting, however, was turned down.

Moyo said the deputy school head refused to meet him, insisting the air force boss should simply pay in US$.

To his surprise, Moyo said, he received a letter dated September 30 from the school head notifying him of the withdrawal of the offer for the Form 1 place for his daughter.

He said the school head told him that he had displayed his unwillingness to be bound by the school rules and regulations, which was detrimental not only to the school, but to other parents.

Moyo argued that he was punished for asking to pay in local currency.

He said he was not aware of the rules and regulations which the school said he violated as they were never communicated to him.

He is seeking the school’s decision to be declared null and void and for his daughter to be given a place at the school.

The matter is yet to be heard.– Newsday

Mnangagwa Sets Elections Next Year

PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has rallied the legion of Zanu-PF supporters to ensure a sweeping victory in the by-elections slated for the first quarter of next year, adding that the polls will serve as a litmus test for the revolutionary party’s preparedness for the 2023 harmonised elections.

Emmerson Mnangagwa

Addressing thousands of Zanu-PF supporters at Kopa Grounds in Chimanimani yesterday, President Mnangagwa said a resounding victory for Zanu-PF was inevitable as the party through the Government had rolled out a lot of projects that positively impacted on people’s lives.

As of October 22, Zimbabwe had a total of 133 elective by-elections at National Assembly and local authority levels.

The by-elections were necessitated by recalls of MDC-T members from the two bodies (National Assembly or local authorities), deaths and dismissals.

“We will be holding by-elections during the first quarter of 2022. As Zanu-PF, we want a clean sweep of all the vacant seats. This will serve as a litmus test of our preparedness for the 2023 harmonised elections. We should register and vote in our numbers to ensure that the country remains in safe hands.

“Mobile registration exercises will be rolled out in all deserving areas, and those without identification particulars should take advantage of this exercise to acquire the documents and register as voters.

“The mobile registration exercise should ensure that all people have the necessary identification details without any hassles. We want to ensure that as many people as possible are registered as voters,” said President Mnangagwa.

He reiterated calls for peace to ensure that the development trajectory the country has taken is not derailed.

“We should continue developing our economy. This can only be achieved if there is peace in the country. We should all be peaceful.

“My Government will ensure that no-one, and no place is left behind in the development trajectory. There is no province you can point saying there is no development taking place. From Matabeleland to all corners of the country there are activities happening on the ground. We are working at alleviating the perennial water challenges that were bedevilling Bulawayo and other cities in the country.

“We are also happy with the progress on the Harare-Beitbridge Road, and from January, we will be embarking on the Harare-Kanyemba Road construction project. Every member of the National Assembly should come up with a list of projects that will benefit their constituencies and the Constituency Development Fund should be put to maximum use,” said President Mnangagwa.

As Zimbabwe moves towards the rainy season where weather experts have predicted a normal to above normal season, occasioned by natural disasters, President Mnangagwa, said Government has already availed funds for early warning systems as well as mitigatory measures to save lives and protect infrastructure.

“As a country we are prone to natural disasters and we have set aside funds to mitigate against them. We should be adequately prepared for any disasters. We should have in place early warning systems as well as mitigatory measures. Mechanism should also be put in place to ensure minimum damage of infrastructure in the event of these natural disasters,” he said.

He said Zimbabwe like any other country is also suffering the brunt of climate change, a reason why it added its voice to calls by the developing world to be accorded a transition period to move from fossil fuels to green energy.

“We were recently in Glasgow, Scotland, where the issue of the continuous use of fossil fuels took centre stage. After developing their countries through the use of fossil fuels, the developed world is advocating for their ban, but we stood up against them.

“The developed world is the major contributor to climate change through the emission of gases when they were developing their industries and now want Africa, Latin America and Asia to stop using fossil fuels, yet we have large deposits of them like coal.

“We called for a transitional period of between 15 to 30 years for us to move to green energies. The developed world should avail funds for the developing world to invest in solar energy, wind-powered electricity generating turbines and biogas.

This is not an overnight event as climate change does not select between the developed and developing world,” said President Mnangagwa.

Turning to the Pfumvudza programme which he will be launching in Gokwe today, President Mnangagwa said everyone should benefit regardless of having prepared the fields or not.

“There should be no discrimination in the distribution of inputs under the Pfumvudza programme. Agritex extension officers should ensure that everyone benefits. Those who fail to benefit from this Government programme should not hesitate to approach their traditional leaders or law enforcement agents for redress,” said President Mnangagwa. – Herald

Obasanjo To The Rescue In Tigray

By A Correspondent | Former Nigerian President and statesman Olusegun Obasanjo, has flown to Ethiopia, to the wartorn Tigray region.

He said the president’s effort requires support.

The immediate Past Executive Director Of the Kwame Nkrumah Institute, Benjamin Anyagre, weighed in saying, “this is the time for all Africans concerned about the real destiny and future of Africa to rally around and support President Obasanjo for this great effort.

“African problems must be resolved by Africans and by Africans and no one else.
It’s time to support our Elderly African Stateman – President Obasanjo’s initiative and call for a cease fire.

“Civil unrest and conflicts are becoming increasingly a threat to our very existence on our homeland Africa.”

The development comes as the
United States ordered all non-emergency US government employees in Ethiopia to leave – warning that “incidents of civil unrest and ethnic violence are occurring without warning” – while other countries have also warned staff to leave while commercial flights are still available.

Tigrayan rebel forces and their allies were at the time of writing marching towards the capital, Addis Ababa, where thousands of people have taken to the streets vowing to defend it.

Billiat To Captain Warriors Against Bafana Bafana

Warriors’ attacking midfielder Khama Billiat will captain Zimbabwe in the absence of injured skipper Knowledge Musona when the Warriors play Bafana Bafana on Thursday.

South Africa will host Zimbabwe in a World Cup qualifier at FNB Stadium …

The Kaizer Chiefs forward will also perform the same duty in the last of the qualifiers against Ethiopia at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday. Said interim coach Norman Mapeza from the team’s base in South Africa:

Khama will be the stand-in captain.

Zimbabwe will be without Musona, defender Teenage Hadebe, Tino Kadewere, and Tendayi Darikwa who sustained injuries recently.

In the absence of Musona, Khama Billiat remains the most senior player in terms of international caps.

Warriors coach, Norman Mapeza has indicated that the match against Bafana Bafana will be an opportunity for Zimbabwe to restore its pride after drawing in the first leg in Harare.

South Africa on the other hand will be seeking to snatch a win and finish on top of the log provided that Ghana loses or draws against Ethiopia in the other group match.- Chronicle

Warriors To Fight For National Pride

Norman Mapeza believes his charges can restore national pride in the wake of a battered image but warned that its a process, not something that can happen over night.

Zimbabwe take on South Africa in the penultimate World Cup Group G qualifier on Thursday evening at the FNB Stadium and head into the clash on the back of what has been a disappointing campaign in which they have one point from four matches.

Mapeza, who took over from Zdravko Logarusic, has so far overseen two matches- the defeats to Ghana in last month’s double-header but believes the team can restore national pride with time.

” This is a process not an event. We are trying to build a team that can compete. A team for the future because we need to restore our national pride,” he said.

“Right now our image is battered and we need to restore that. It’s not about proving a point but building a winning team and it’s a process,” added the former national team captain.

The team trained at Sandton Sports Club in Johanesburg this morning, under the watchful eye of Mapeza and his trusted lieutenants Taurai Mangwiro and Mandla Mpofu.

Mnangagwa Behind Attacks On Hon Biti

Tinashe Sambiri| MDC Alliance vice president Hon Tendai Biti has said Zanu PF agents want to eliminate him.

Hon Biti also accused State security agents of plotting to kill senior MDC Alliance officials including President Nelson Chamisa.

President Chamisa survived two assassination attempts in Chiredzi and Mutare.

Hon Biti said: “They (Zanu PF agents) are trailing me. We know their plans. They want to kill influential party leaders.

We are not afraid of them. I have been attacked several times. They also attempted to assassinate our President.”

MDC Alliance vice chairperson Hon Job Sikhala tweeted:

“We know all your plans, and for the record, Simbanegavi and Gakanje, we know u are trailing our Vice President [Tendai Biti].
I won’t mention your first names, but if the push comes to shove, I will expose you. We know your nefarious agenda.
It won’t work. Leave us in peace.”

Masvingo Woman Robbed, Daughter Raped

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating a robbery and sexual assault case in which a Masvingo woman was robbed of cash, gadgets and other valuables while her daughter was raped.

Police said in a statement:
The ZRP is investigating a robbery and indecent assault case which occurred at Mucheke, Masvingo on 08/11/21 at around 0100 hours, where a woman (44) lost cash amounting to US$200 and ZAR11 500, cellphones, laptops, jewellery and other valuables valued at US$1 975.
Eleven suspects armed with an unidentified pistol, wooden logs, iron bars and machetes stormed her house and demanded cash. One of the suspects sexually abused the complainant’s daughter (21).

Human Skull Found In Shallow Grave

By A Correspondent- Police in Masvingo said they have discovered some human remains in a shallow grave in a mountain in Chivi.

Police said in a statement:

Police in Ngundu received a report of human remains at Dambuguru Mountain, Chipeta, Chivi. The remains which comprise a human skull and a few bones were in what appeared to be a shallow grave covered with some stones.
In a related case, on 06/11/21 a body of an unknown male adult was found along Nyaunga River, Charewa, Mutoko. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition.
Police said Tuesday that investigations are already underway.

New Breed Of Armed Robbers In Harare

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Republic Police has warned groups of armed robbers pouncing on homes and businesses and demanding cash.

In a statement, ZRP said the groups numbering from four to 12 had wreaked havoc in Harare.

Reads the ZRP statement:

They will be armed with various weapons, including guns and are targeting cash and valuables.

They are pouncing on homes and businesses, forcing entry through breaking doors or screens. They also waylay their victims in the yard and take hostage anyone found outside the house or business premises.

They use that person to communicate with people inside the house to open the door. They also use very threatening language to instil fear into their victims before taking away cash and other valuables.

After robbing they disappear using gate away car or cars. They mostly operate during the night. Their modus operandi can only be subdued through coordinated efforts to combat this menace.

We need to form patrol teams, mobile and foot patrols. Each team is to be accompanied by armed police officers from the local police station. Stop and searches should be conducted on all those who are found travelling at night.

All suspicious persons are to be taken to the police station for questioning. We are all potential victims hence the need to have the spirit of teamwork. If we fail to contain this challenge surely businesses will be affected seriously.

Those who have businesses they operate please stop carrying any cash home. Do not keep cash on your person. Do not announce the person who takes safe or door keys after closing of business.

Never trust your employees because we suspect some robbery cases are being planned from within. Have armed security guards manning your business or tell other business operators to comply with this advice.

Businesses should form patrolling teams to protect their businesses. Never leave doors to your home open when you’re at home.

Always try to minimize your chances of getting outside the house especially after dawn. Once attacked please do not resist.

Let us join hands with ZRP to fight crime in our community. It is everyone’s responsibility. Always keep the local police station contact number on your phone. Exchange phone contacts with your neighbours. Be a brother’s keeper.

Your local police station is ready to work with you through Neighborhood Watch Committees. Let us value our safety as united citizens.

As ZRP Harare Province we will always strive to undertake our constitutional mandate through all-encompassing, holistic, pragmatic and strategic ways in a professional manner.

Magaya Tricks Government To Evade Prosecution

By A Correspondent- Controversial Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries founder Walter Magaya has moved to bribe the government by offering to build a school in Harare.

Magaya is facing several rape charges involving married female church members.

Recently the Supreme Court threw away his appeal seeking to stop an investigation into his rape cases by the Zimbabwe Gender Commission.

Magaya at his 38th birthday dinner, announced that he had started constructing a school under “The Heart Group of Schools” along Beatrice Road.

Magaya claimed that he drew inspiration from mainline denominations such as the Roman Catholic Church, Anglican and Methodist, among others that have built schools across the country.

He said:

As PHD ministries we have acquired a place along Masvingo Road and construction of a school has started.

I have been inspired by other churches like Catholics, Anglicans, Methodists and other church leaders like Apostle Guti in building a university.

The Heart Group of Schools aims to provide space for the gifted child struggling to find space in a conventional education setup.

Its entry point is to discover a student’s heart desire and nurture the passion and gift in a technologically advanced environment where the teacher is simply a guide or a facilitator.

More: H-Metro

Magaya was said to be diverting public attention from the historic Supreme Court case in which the court ruled over the abuse of women which involves the late Nigerian preacher, TB Joshua. The court ruled that the investigations into the Walter Magaya pile of rape allegations must go ahead.

TB Joshua was in 2016 recorded while trying to subvert the court of justice on one of the Magaya victims in the verified-case of Zimbabwean woman, Angela Charakupa, and in Nigeria he himself had up to the time of his death, piles of children and older women who are complainants against him.

Supreme Court

A long list of other women are complainants in cases reported on ZimEye since the unexplained sudden death of one of Magaya’s girlfriends in 2014, Chipo Chakanyuka.

Following the latest three cases, Walter Magaya had taken the Gender Commission Of Zimbabwe to the Supreme Court.

On the 23rd August 2019, the Commission issued General Notice 1444 of 2019 on Walter Magaya which it published in the Government Gazette. The General Notice authorized the respondent to conduct an investigation into complaints of sexual abuse generally made against the appellant.

In response, on 3 September 2019, Magaya filed an application with the High Court for a review of the decision by the respondent to launch the investigation pursuant to the General Notice. He followed this up with an urgent chamber application in which he sought by way of interim relief an interdict against the conduct of the investigation by the respondent.

On 22 October 2019, the High Court dismissed Magaya’s urgent chamber application with costs.

Magaya then appealed to the Supreme Court against that judgment.

He contended that he had good prospects of succeeding on the review and that his rights from the review process would be rendered nugatory if the investigations were not halted pending the review. His stance was that neither the Constitution nor the Act afforded the Commission the authority to conduct the contemplated investigation. To that extent, any investigation by the Commission constituted an illegality. He contended further that what the Commission intended from the published notice was outside its statutory mandate and as a result, Magaya was entitled to the protection of the law which he was seeking from the court.

But ruling against him, Supreme Court justices, Gowora, Patel and Uchena stated as follows:

Regrettably for the appellant, he has tactically miscalculated the nature of the relief that he sought in the urgent chamber application before the court a quo. He has also failed to correlate and align the draft order in the chamber application with the relief sought in the application for review pending before the High Court.

In the final analysis, the applicant has failed to take into account the formidable hurdle presented by the rule that an interdict cannot in principle be granted against conduct that is prima facie lawful and carried out in terms of an extant statutory instrument that is presumed to be valid until it is duly set aside by a competent court that is properly seized with the question of its validity. In any case, as a matter of procedural correctness, the validity of the impugned General Notice could not properly have been an issue before the court a quo until the return day had arrived. By the same token, it cannot be properly ventilated before and determined by this Court on appeal against the judgment a quo. For these essentially technical reasons, I would agree with Gowora JA that the present appeal should not be allowed.

Mnangagwa Gives In To War Vets’ Demands

By A Correspondent- The government has given in to demands by the former liberation war-fighters who have been pressing for allowances in foreign currency for a long time.

The admission was expressed by the Defence and War Veterans Affairs Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri in Kariba, where she said the liberation war veterans were set to receive end-of-year bonuses denominated in United States Dollars.

Muchinguri-Kashiri announced during her address to the military top brass at a 2022 strategic planning workshop in Kariba.

“Already, a commitment has been made by Treasury to pay war veterans bonuses this year, a part of which is likely to be in foreign currency. Measures are also being taken to improve benefits of the veterans further.

Renounce Zanu PF Membership- MDC Alliance Tells Malaba

Tinashe Sambiri|The MDC Alliance Namibia has said the participation of Luke Malaba in Zanu PF political processes jeopardizes his esteemed profession.

Malaba is a declared Zanu PF sympathizer…

See the MDC Alliance Namibia statement below:

Judicial independence is a fundamental value of the rule of law and of constitutionalism: Mdc Alliance Namibia posits.

10 November 2021

Social democrats who subscribe to the able and diligent leadership of President Advocate Nelson Chamisa (The Eagle/Wamba Dia Wamba) were mesmerized, transfixed and hypnotised upon realising that Chief Justice Mr Luke Malaba was part of those who attended the Zanupf conference in Bindura on the 25th of October 2021.

Mdc Alliance Namibia has the conviction that Mr Malaba’s conduct is a gross violation of Section 165(4)(a) of The Constitution of Zimbabwe which seriously prohibit members of the Judiciary from attending political meetings of that nature.

Without wasting time, we would like to clearly urge the Judicial Service Commission to take stern measures against Mr Malaba whose behaviour amounts to gross misconduct which can cost him complete removal from this office as stipulated in Section 187(1)(c) considering his unethical and unprofessional conduct which undermines the Supreme Law of the motherland. We posit that Mr Malaba should do the honourable thing and resign so that he can support Zanupf since it is the part of his choice. The Chief Justice should be the custodian of law which makes it compulsory for him and his colleagues to follow the dictates of law without fear or favour. Mdc Alliance Namibia is absolutely cognisant to figure out that the Judicial Services Commission according to Section (190)(2) must promote and facilitate the independence, the efficient ,the effective and transparent administration of justice in Zimbabwe and has powers needed for this purpose.

In light of the above background, it becomes imperative for social democrats in Zimbabwe and in the diaspora to democratically pent up their outrage demanding Judicial independence for the good of the rule of law and constitutionalism. Mr Malaba’s conduct is detrimental to the survival of Constitutional Democracy in Zimbabwe. As Mdc Alliance Namibia, we believe that Mr Malaba and his colleagues in Judicial Services Commission should safeguard the rule of law and promoting democratic governance which remains a mere dream without a well functioning Judiciary System.

It very vital in Constitutional Democracy that individual judges and the whole judicial system must stay far away from political outfits. His presence at the Zanupf meeting is a testament to serious state capture. Constitutional fighters in Namibia advocate for the impartiality and complete independence of the judicial system for transparency and objectivity. We believe that Zanupf should distance itself from the judges although there must, of necessity, be some relations between the judiciary and the political powers especially(The Executive), such relations must not interfere with the judiciary’s liberty in adjudicating individual disputes and upholding the law and values of the constitution. We have seen lawfare since the inception of the Political Behemoth in 1999 to date. Many social democrats were and are still victims of state sponsored deaths , torture, arbitrary arrests, illegal convictions, selective distribution of food aid and intimidation but perpetrators of such satanic violence are walking scot-free when Makomborero Haruzivishe is languishing in the hell hole of Harare prison for challenging senseless and barefaced corruption.

In a nutshell, Mdc Alliance Namibia would like to encourage Mr Luke Malaba to respect the rule of law and constitutionalism. We are tired of a captured judiciary system since it should serve as a foundation for the rule of law and democracy. ZanuPF Satanists and their enablers are obliged to follow the constitution religiously.

Zim Referee Banned For “Mishandling” Soccer Match

The Zimbabwe Football Association Referee’s Committee has banned Munyaradzi Mujoni for two months following his poor performance on Sunday.

Mujoni was the centre referee in Dynamos’ controversial 1-0 win against Yadah on Matchday One of the 2021 Castle Lager Premiership.

The Midlands-based official made a couple of bad calls in the game including the Patson Jaure incident which could have resulted in a straight red card for the DeMbare skipper.

The referee then turned down a clear penalty when Jaure deflected a goal-bound ball with his hand.

The Referee’s Committee have now written to Mujoni, informing him about the ban.

The later reads: “The Zimbabwe Football Association Referees Committee wishes to inform you that you have been suspended from football refereeing with immediate effect for a period of two months,’’ wrote committee secretary-general, Obert Zhoya.

“This follows your poor performance during the league match played at the NSS (National Sports Stadium) on Sunday, 7 November, 2021 between Dynamos and Yadah.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Benjani Blames Lack Of Preparation For Warriors Poor Performance

Former Warriors assistant coach Benjani Mwaruwari believes the national team could have done better in the World Cup Qualifiers if they had got proper preparations.

Zimbabwe were eliminated from the tournament following back-to-back defeats against Ghana last month. The team had only picked a point versus South Africa and lost against Ethiopia in their second game.

Mwaruwari, who was sacked from his position, along with head coach Zdravko Logarusic after the Ethiopia defeat, also highlighted how the issue of injured players in the squad influenced the performances.

He said on South African radio station Metro FM:

“We were not playing any football in Zimbabwe (due to the coronavirus pandemic). When we played Ethiopia, our star players were injured.”

Zimbabwe will wrap up their qualifying round with dead rubbers against South Africa on Thursday and then host Ethiopia in Harare on Sunday.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Young Miner Upbeat About Success Despite Challenges

By A Correspondent| An emerging women miner in Shamva, Mashonaland Central is has implored government through the ministry of mines and mining development to support small scale miners with a budget towards offering loans and equipment so that they can play a part towards unlocking the US$12 Billion sector revenue by 2023.

In an interview with this publication, Mwanawevhu, real name Shantel Mnangagwa says she is upbeat about the prospects of success considering that despite the challenges she is facing, she has been able to employ 400 to 500 youths at her 200 hectares mining claim in Shamva while her average production at the moment between 300 and 500 grams.

Mwanawevhu said her goal is to help eradicate poverty in Mashonaland central while also helping the country economically through unlocking mineral value.

She however said her mining business has not been smooth especially considering that she is a woman, doing it on a small scale and also as a new kid on the block.

“I am mining gold in Umfurudzi game park, I started my mining in December 2019 and what I can say is that mining is not easy, it’s a bit tough especially for us young women,” said Mwanawevhu.

“Sometimes I employ 400 to 500 youths at my mine and it makes me happy since I am trying to eradicate poverty in my area by creating employment for my fellow youths,” she added.

Mwanawevhu (at the centre) with some of her workers

Mwanawevhu is currently producing an average of 300 grams of gold per month which she supplies to Fidelity Refiners.

“The quantities of gold I have been selling to Fidelity, for the past three months, I can say an average of 300 to 500 grams per month,” she said.

Mwanawevhu confided in this publication that the secret to her relative success has been her ability to work with local leadership including traditional leaders whom she acknowledged have helped her to circumvent cultural issues associated with the trade.

“Since 2019 when I started mining in Shamva, I have been working quite well with local chiefs including Chief Munyaradzi Nyamaropa who assisted me with chivanhu chemu area.

“I also work nicely with Chief Mushowani, he gives us youths from his area to work with, I also work with the area councillor, youth leadership from the party,” added Mwanawevhu.

She added that it is her goal to take youths away from illicit drugs by ensuring that they are gainfully employed and are occupied.

An excavator at Mwanawevhu’s mine in Umfurudzi game park in Shamva

It is my goal to stop youths from taking illicit drugs such mutoriro and many other dangerous drugs which are currently wreaking havoc in the country, I have seen that it is possible and I am determined to even employ more and more youths.

“I am also worried about the menace of crime within the mining sector which has seen the emergence of mashurugwi and those mabhembas, mining in Zimbabwe should be a safe space for everyone including us women, so I am playing my part and it is my hope that more and more people who are in mining fight this menace,” she added.

As part of giving back to the community, Mwanawevhu is also assisting orphans in Shamva with school fees and uniforms.

She is looking forward to increasing her production and has currently set her sight at supplying Fidelity Gold Refiners with up to three kilograms of gold per month, a feat she said will only be possible if the government funds the ministry of mines and mining development.

“I can increase production it’s just that at the moment, we don’t have bigger equipment, we need bigger excavators, my claim is a mountainous area so we are trying to work manually sometimes hiring excavators here and there.

“I would appreciate very much if we can get assistance from the ministry of mines and mining development to loan us equipment such as excavators, dumper trucks and tipper trucks, I know if we get equipment, we will be able to increase our production,” she said.

Mwanawevhu urged other women who want to venture into mining to be strong and brave as the sector is still unattractive to women due to societal attitude with men still thinking that it is only for them only.

“Mining sector is quite difficult for us women, we have so many problems, sometimes if you manage to get a lucrative claim with any mineral be it gold, limestone, copper, you face challenges with men trying to grab your claim, men still think mining is only for them,” she said.

Chief Nyamaropa told ZimEye that they are working well with Mwanawevhu who has employed hundreds of young people from his area.

“From the time she came here, we never had a problem with her, she is helping us a lot and has taken a lot of our youths to work at her mine,” said Chief Nyamaropa.

Zanu PF Youth chairperson for Shamva, George Chamunorwa supported Chief Nyamaropa saying the bulk of villages in Shamva are benefitting from Mwanawevhu’s mining activities.

“Our youths from Magazi 1, Zvomanyanga, Mukwari, Nyamhondoro, Gato and even Chakonda are working at Mwanawevhu’s mine, what more would we want. We have been empowered because this is employment creation which is part of the new dispensation’s vision,” said Chamunorwa.

Mwanawevhu urged young people to join the mining sector and contribute towards the economic development of the country.

“I urge young people to join the mining sector, our country has plenty of mineral resources be it gold, limestone, copper and many others, lets be involved, lets not just wait for government but play our part,” she concluded.

We Are Fighting For National Pride – Mapeza

‘Bogus’ Education Institution Under Fire For Operating Illegally

By Jane Mlambo| A Midlands based academic institution Macronet International Association is in hot soup over allegations that they are duping learners through misrepresentation as a registered institution.

ZimEye understands that the organisation is not registered with Hexco but is operating as a Trust deceiving people of various amounts of money in United States dollars. has reportedly The organisazion is owned by Edwin Ncube who is believed to hail from Zhombe in Midlands province but is domiciled in Gweru’s Mkoba suburb.

Most of those duped by the shady organisation state that it purportedly offers training courses and certificates in hotel management, tourism and catering, nurse aide courses, receptionist courses amongst others.

Once clients part with amounts varying between US$90-US$200, promised services are reportedly withheld and are instead offered what was not agreed upon.

Checks by ZimEye established that despite offering these courses, Macronet International Association is not accredited with the Higher Examinations Council (HEXCO) neither is it recognised by the Zimbabwe Youth Council (ZYC).

Officials from the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education’s Quality control department who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “Macronet International Association is not registered with them and their certificates are not recognized.”

The official said parents and guardians need be extra careful not to lose their hard earned cash to fraudulent entities who claim to offer courses which are not recognized or registered.

In Zhombe, the organisation is allegedly charging US$90 for first aid courses and then promises prospective clients with jobs after completion of the short courses.

Sources say the organisation has spread its wings to Matabeleland where it has reportedly partnered the Matebeleland Youth Association purporting to offer higher and tertiary courses.

Recently, Ncube was hauled before the courts in Bulawayo on allegations of fraud. Maureen Malandu (40) of Mpopoma and Memory Madyara (32) of Makokoba paid US$200 for ambulance technician courses at the college, but instead were taught first aid.

The court heard that Ms Malandu paid US$110 while Ms Madyara parted with US$90 after they were informed that the amount would cover items needed for the completion of the course.

However, Ncube was not asked to plead over the matter.

Macronet is still on the prowl using the same modus operandi to defraud students who seek higher education as a solution to poverty.

Some of the duped clients have since reported to the police while some have directly reported to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) where an inside source confirmed.Ncube could not be reached for comment.

1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

To those that are in Gutu for funeral :

Ecclesiastes 7

2 It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.
3 Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.
4 The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.

Our humble workaholic Youth Chairman Benard Chimwango accompanied Vice Chair L Mapuranga,National leader Kingsley Sibanda and Secretary for Healthy ldr Priveldge as they paid their last respect to a brother and friend for us all.Gutu leadership was not be spared as they supported a fellow cadre in difficult times. Court Frees Beitbridge Couple Arrested For Undermining Mnangagwa

A Beitbridge couple was freed yesterday after their trial for undermining authority of or insulting President Emmerson Mnangagwa failed to start for  over a year.

Sarudzayi Jani and Remember Ncube allegedly posted a photoshopped image of the President in a nude state on WhatsApp last year.According to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), Magistrate Gwazemba recently removed Jani and Ncube from remand as the State failed to put them on trial 17 months after they were arrested.

Police officers who arrested the couple claimed that they made an abusive, indecent or obscene statement about Mnangagwa. They said that may engender feelings of hostility towards him, with the knowledge that the statement is false, as revealed by some media outlets at the time.

The couple allegedly shared a nude picture of Mnangagwa wearing Zanu-PF regalia around his neck with a male organ adorned with a mask at its end on a WhatsApp group for residents in Ward 3 of Beitbridge.

Chief Inspector Kenneth Mushongahande of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, who is a member of the residents’ WhatsApp group, reported the couple to law enforcement agents, who arrested and detained them overnight at Beitbridge Urban Police Station.

Mushongahande said police officers “hunted” and arrested the couple, who had no right to publish the Photoshopped picture.

Girl (8) Falls Into “Burning” Coal Dumpsite

By A Correspondent- An eight-year-old girl suffered serious burns on both legs, stomach and chest after she fell in an old coal dumpsite in Hwange on Monday.

The girl, whose name could not immediately be established, is reported to have gone to a nearby bush to relieve herself close to an old mine dump when the ground collapsed underneath her feet resulting in her falling into the dumpsite and being burnt by an underground coal fire.

CITE quoted a source as saying the girl was quickly rushed to Hwange Colliery Hospital and later transferred to Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo.

Said the source:

The incident took place yesterday at around 4 pm at a place called Kamponi, in Makwika village.

We understand that she went to the bush to relieve herself and the ground collapsed resulting in her sustaining serious burns.

Her sister came to her rescue as she acted quickly and dragged her out of the burning coal. She was quickly rushed to Hwange Colliery Hospital.

This was a very serious accident as she suffered severe burns while her clothes and shoes were left in the pit.

Hwange residents said the lack of water and poor sanitation at most communal toilets in areas under HCCL concession areas is forcing them to practice open defecation near these old unsecured mine dumps.

Greater Whange Residents Trust Coordinator, Fidelis Chima condemned the increase in such cases arguing that Colliery needed to act to avert future occurrences. He said:

Greater Whange Residents Trust condemns the increase of burnt children at dumpsites and it appears Hwange Colliery Company is not doing enough to address these issues and we will definitely approach the company, EMA and government so that they address these issues. These children are left with permanent injuries, parents distressed.

Chima said that they were advocating for mining companies and stakeholders to address such issues.

CITE reported that the child’s father, Andy Muzwiti could not be reached as he was said to be in transit to Bulawayo with his daughter while Hwange Colliery Company corporate Affairs manager, Beauty Mutombe had not responded to questions sent to her.

President Chamisa Frowns At PVO Ammendment Bill

By A Correspondent- Opposition MDC Alliance led by Mr Nelson Chamisa has frowned upon the recently gazetted Private Voluntary Organisation Amendment Bill which seeks to ban Non-Governmental Organisations from political lobbying.

The party’s Secretary-General, Chalton Hwende, said the bill was targeted at the opposition party.

He said:

Zimbabwe is now a fully-fledged Dictatorship. Laws are being created targeted at only the MDC Alliance and President @nelsonchamisa . NGOs to be barred from political lobbying.

Last week the Clerk of Parliament, Mr Kennedy Chokuda, gazetted the Bill that seeks to among other things penalise non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that dabble in politics.

The Bill seeks to amend section 10 of the principal by the insertion of the following paragraph after paragraph (e) as follows —

e1) when any private voluntary organisation that supports or opposes any political party or candidate in a presidential, parliamentary or local government election or is a party to any breach of section 7 under Part III of the Political Parties (Finance) Act [Chapter 2:12] as a contributor of funds to a political party or candidate or otherwise shall be guilty of an offence and liable to a fine of level twelve or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year, or both such fine or such imprisonment.

Ahead of the 2023 polls, the United States of America, through USAID, had set aside US$5 million to fund NGOs for the “promotion of the rule of law, constitutionalism and democracy.”

Opposition MDC-T leader, Mr Douglas Mwonzora said the country should make use of laws such as the Political Parties Finance Act to stop foreigners from funding political activism through NGOs.

He said:

Our position is that there must be minimal interference with the work of civil society organisations, they provide the necessary checks and balances on possible government excesses. But we have laws such as the Political Parties Finance Act, which proscribes foreign funding and that has to be used.

MDC Alliance was stripped of rights to the funding provided under the Political Parties Finance Act it was “entitled” to following the 2018 elections.

The funds are being received by the MDC-T which was declared the legitimate beneficiary by a 2019 Supreme Court ruling on the MDC leadership wrangle.

MDC Alliance has allegedly been getting funding from members, wellwishers and some Western states to fund its operations.

Meanwhile, ZANU PF’s chief whip Mr Pupurai Togarepi said the ruling party will swiftly pass the Bill into law to close the door on delinquent activities in the NGOs.

Government has in the past accused NGOs of abandoning their mandates by pursuing a political agenda in support of regime change.-statemedia

TV, Radio Licences Prices To Be Hiked

By A Correspondent- Television and radio licence fees are set to go up after Cabinet approved a proposal by the Cabinet Committee on National Development Planning to effect the fees adjustment.

Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa on Tuesday told reporters that the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) is now using outdated equipment which needs to be upgraded.

Mutsvangwa said ZBC will soon be launching two more channels and listeners’ licence fees should cover 80% of the broadcaster’s operating costs. She said:

Cabinet received and approved a report of the Cabinet Committee on National Development Planning on the proposed Review of Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation Listeners’ Licence Fees as presented by the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services.

Cabinet noted that the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation’s equipment for both radio and television studios is obsolete and has outlived its lifespan, and therefore requires urgent replacement to enable the broadcaster to improve service delivery.

Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation will soon be launching two more channels towards the fulfilment of its mandate, and for these channels to be effectively rolled out, in addition to the ongoing digitalization of its transmitters, the organisation has to be capacitated.

Listeners’ licence fees should cover 80% of the Corporation’s operational costs.

Gvt “Entices” School Heads

By A Correspondent- Government has pledged to increase salaries for heads ranging from 10% to 25% depending on the number of pupils per school, a development teachers unions described as a tool to clamp down on restive teachers.

School heads with an enrolment of above 2 000 students will get 25%, while those with between 1 500 and 1 999 will get 20% and those with a student register of 1 000 to 1 499 will receive 15%.

Those with an enrolment of below 1 000 will get 10%. The increment will be on basic salary.

Deputy headmasters and teachers will get nothing.

Primary and Secondary Education ministry spokesperson Taungana Ndoro refused to comment on the issue saying the ministry had nothing to do with salary issues.

Public Service and Labour minister Paul Mavima could not be reached for comment as his mobile phone continually rang unanswered.

But Progressive Teacher Union of Zimbabwe president Takavafira Zhou said the Public Service Commission had approved school heads’ salary review following recommendations by the ministry.

He said the issue came to light during a meeting between the unions and Primary and Secondary Education secretary Tumisang Thabela last month.

Under the new arrangement, schools with over 2 000 pupils will get two deputy heads.

Teachers unions yesterday alleged that government had resorted to divide and rule tactics in the education sector.

They said the employer was giving school heads the increment in order to strengthen its monitoring mechanisms on the restive teachers who have been clamouring for a minimum salary equivalent to US$540 which they were getting in 2018 and bonus payments in US dollars.

On Monday, teachers threatened to go on a full-blown strike and/or boycott invigilating the 2021 Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (Zimsec) examinations if their demands were not met.

Zhou told NewsDay that the proposed 25% increment for headmasters was a pittance, although it was likely to create a gulf between classroom teachers and heads.

He said the increase was meant to incentivise headmasters to run examinations efficiently, but warned it was difficult to achieve that with disgruntled teachers .

“All the same, it’s only narrow minded, prejudiced and parochial school heads who can pride in a pathetic 10% to 25% increment of their basic salary. In essence, if school heads are so gullible to accept this, they would have salivated at a poisoned carrot. The best way forward is the restoration of teachers’ purchasing power parity pegged at an average of US$540.”

Educators Union of Zimbabwe secretary-general Tapera Zhou described the move as “separatist”.

“The divisive attempts to reward school heads with a meagre 25% over and above other teachers is just as cheap as it sounds. The government still assumes that school heads are so usable and that they may fall for this bait. Twenty-five percent of a mouse will never hoodwink any level-headed educator, worse still, school heads,” he said.

Zhou described the move as embarrassing, adding that after smelling a massive job action, government was trying to bribe school heads to avert the industrial action.

Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Obert Masaraure said: “The government is well aware that teachers are disgruntled and will soon be withdrawing labour.

“The government seeks to strengthen the monitoring of teachers in schools by awarding a token to school heads.  The 25% increase of school heads’ salaries is too little too late. The teachers have already resolved that they will no longer work for peanuts.”

Masaraure said government had the whole of this week to table a new offer for teachers.

Zimbabwe Teachers Association national general-secretary Goodwill Taderera said: “It is, indeed, a divide and rule strategy by government to separate the school managers and the teachers. As far as we are concerned, we know that our teachers are suffering, even headmasters.”

Taderera described the move as a bad strategy meant to pay school heads so that they are heavy-handed on their subordinates.-Newsday

Powercut Hits Harare CBD

By A Correspondent- A power blackout has hit Harare’s central business district in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

Sources who spoke to ZimEye confirmed that the power blackout hit the CBD at 2am.

“Power just blacked out and until now, 10am, we are yet to know what happened or when it will be back,” said a security guard working at a building along Jason Moyo avenue.

Efforts to get a comment from the ZETDC was work in progress by the time in writing.

More details follow…..

Zanu PF Members Clash With Mapostori Over Vending Bays

By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF members yesterday clashed with members of an apostolic sect after party members forcibly tried to grab vending bays from Joshua Nkomo street to Fife Street along 5th Avenue in Bulawayo.

When the Southern eye crew arrived at the scene, there was pushing and shoving as they jostled for marked vending bays, with municipal police struggling to contain the situation that was fast blowing out of hand.

Some Zanu-PF members in party regalia claimed they deserved to occupy the vending bays while members of the apostolic sect  claiming the space was reserved for them.

One of the vendors, who only identified himself as Tendai said the place was reserved for apostolic sect members.

“This place had been closed because of the lockdown and before that, it belonged to Vapostori.

“That is why you see that there are a lot of Vapostori here,” he said.

“We got here early in the morning and we were surprised that bays are now being forcibly taken by Zanu-PF members. We will not allow this to happen.”

Mayor Solomon Mguni condemned the clashes.

“We condemn, in the strongest sense, the actions by a section of Zanu-PF youths who took the law into their own hands by barricading sections of 5th Avenue from Joshua Nkomo Street to Fife Street, marking and allocated each other vending bays on a public road,” he said.

“Council is working on a government policy to decongest the central business district and decentralise fresh produce markets to suburban areas.

“Such conduct is counterproductive and can only serve to further polarise the city and its people. This has a potential to lead to lawlessness and public violence and confrontational politics.”

Mguni said no political party had a right to allocate vending bays, insisting such a task was the responsibility of council.

Zanu-PF Bulawayo provincial chairperson Obert Msindo said he was not aware of the clashes.

“I am not aware of the issue,” he said.-newsday

Man Who Accused Mliswa Of Snatching His Wife Found Guilty Of Domestic Violence

jail

By A Correspondent- A Harare man who accused Norton legislator Themba Mliswa of snatching his wife has been convicted of domestic violence.

Tafadzwa Tamangani was convicted by Harare magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure after full trial.

He was fined $10 000 and will spend 30 days in jail if he fails to pay.

Three months were suspended on condition that he does not commit the same offence in five years.

Tamangani was represented by Edwin Hamunakwadi and Knowledge Maeresera.

The complainant, Janet Tamangani had submitted in court that Tamangani was bitter because he had been relying on her for a living. She also accused him of violating a peace order.

Janet also claimed that Tamangani was in the habit of assaulting her in full view of their children.

Allegations against Tamangani are that, on June 7, 2021, he assaulted his wife in front of their four children, resulting in her sustaining a chest wound.

Gvt To Intensify Registration Of All Eligible Citizens Ahead Of 2023 Polls

By A Correspondent- Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe has said his ministry will speed up the registration and documentation of all eligible citizens in preparation of the 2023 general elections.

Kazembe made the remarks last week while officiating at the opening the Guruve Registry Offices in Mashonaland Central province.

“The department will soon be embarking on a countrywide exercise to ensure every eligible voter is registered and documented in preparation for the 2023 plebiscite. This will be done in consultation with the traditional and community leadership. Government attaches great importance to civil registration because it captures accurate data necessary for national development,” Kazembe said.

“It is a legal requirement that every child be registered within 42 days of birth. A birth certificate is, therefore, an essential legal document for securing recognition of individuals before the law and safeguards their human rights and access to basic social services.”

But the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) yesterday said it had the sole mandate of registering voters.

“Zec is one of the five independent commissions established under Chapter 12 of the Constitution. Section 235 of the Constitution clearly states that as an independent commission, Zec is not subject to the direction or control of anyone,” the electoral management body told NewsDay in a statement yesterday.

“Section 239(c) of the Constitution outlines voter registration as one of the commission’s functions and not that of the Registrar-General’s Office as implied in your newspaper.”

ED To Proclaim Election Dates

By A Correspondent- President Mnangagwa will proclaim the dates for by-elections for the National Assembly and local authorities to fill vacancies left following the expulsion and death of some members, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has said.

There are 28 National Assembly and 105 local authority vacancies across the country.

The Government had suspended the holding of by-elections as part of a set of measures to curtail the spread of the highly contagious Covid-19 disease.

However, ZEC, the constitutional body mandated with running elections in the country, has come up with a roadmap towards the holding of the elections.

According to the draft electoral road map, ZEC has set April 23, 2022 as the proposed date for elections.

“The commission works with provisional dates as the actual dates can only be proclaimed by the President,” ZEC said in a statement.

Some media organisations had reported that the country will be going to polls based on the ZEC roadmap.

However, the by-elections, the commission said, could be proclaimed earlier or later than the set provisional dates.

“The provisional dates are merely for planning and procurement of election material. The nation should be guided accordingly,” reads the draft electoral road map.

Ahead of next year’s delimitation process, ZEC has set aside more than 900 voter registration units.

The delimitation process, which will see the country divided into constituencies and wards for the purpose of elections legislators and councillors respectively is part of the electoral cycle and is carried out periodically in terms of section 160 and 161 of the Constitution.

“ZEC periodically assesses its state of preparedness for all constitutionally mandated electoral processes.

“The Commission is guided by the laws of Zimbabwe not by discussions with any stakeholders. The law can be changed in Parliament by those who are unhappy with its application,’’ said ZEC.

Parliament has expelled more than 20 MPs from both MDC-T and Zanu PF after their parties wrote to the House saying they were no longer representing them.

The recall of the MPs is a culmination of 21 MPs belonging to the opposition MDC-T party, recalled to date following a leadership wrangle.

The recalling of MDC-T MPs followed a Supreme Court ruling conferring legitimacy to Douglas Mwonzora as the leader of the party.

Zanu PF recalled Chivi South MP Cde Killer Zivhu, while at least 21 from both the National Assembly and Senate were ejected by the MDC-T.

The proclamation of provisional dates for by-elections comes as a massive blow to MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora who had begged President Mnangagwa to consider scrapping pending by-elections when the two met under controversial circumstances at State House on June 11.

Mnangagwa met Mwonzora while in the company of Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga.

The MDC-T leader revealed after the meeting, described by his lieutenants as secretive, that he had tabled a set of “damands” to the Zanu PF leaders, but flatly refused to disclose them, saying he was waiting for the president’s written response.

This publication, however, obtained a copy of the four-page document Mwonzora gave Mnangangwa. The suspension of by-elections, which if done, would give Mwonzora an edge over Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance in the fight for recognition as the main opposition party in Zimbabwe.

The MDC-T leader justified the proposal to suspend by-elections, saying it would give Zimbabweans time to “find each other”.

“While Zimbabweans are talking and finding each other in this serious manner it seems unnecessary to introduce something divisive as by-elections,” he said in the statement.

“It is, therefore , suggested that while discussions are going on regarding aforementioned issues, by-elections be suspended.

“In order to avoid prejudice to the electorate, it is suggested that an arrangement be made for parties to make replacements of vacancies in their areas of control as guided by law.”

Following a controversial Supreme Court ruling last year, MDC-T has recalled dozens of MDC Alliance legislators and councillors amid accusations that it is aiding Mnangagwa’s ambitions to create a one-party state.

Mwonzora denies allegations that he is a Zanu PF puppet, but he has indicated his eagerness to work with the ruling party while pushing out Chamisa’s group.

In his submissions to Mnangagwa, he also proposed a new dialogue platform between MDC-T and Zanu PF to be known as the Parliamentary Dialogue Forum (PDF).

He said PDF would be made up of five Zanu PF legislators, five MDC-T legislators and two chiefs. The platform would have Zanu PF and MDC-T principals while excluding MDC Alliance.

According to the document, the PDF would have its own secretariat where Zanu PF and the MDC-T will second officials that would be on a full salary.

“The two political parties to select two salaried and specific coordinators each, who sit in the PDF,” reads the document.

Mwonzora assured Mnangagwa that there would be no further talk of the 2018 general elections as that was water under the bridge as concluded by the Constitutional Court.

“The Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe made a definitive judgement, which in the party’s view settled the legitimacy question. To the MDC-T party the legitimacy is a settled issue,” he wrote.

“I Believe In Prayers”: Mapostori Reveal Why They Are Refusing Vaccination

By A Correspondent- Hymnal melodies reverberate around the hillside in Kuwadzana, a Harare suburb. On a blisteringly hot Saturday, members of the Apostolic church, dressed in white, hum and sing together.

Songs, long prayers and a little Bible reading punctuate the outdoor service. It’s a spectacle for passersby.

Since the Zimbabwean government partly reopened church gatherings in August, Apostolic members, known for their open-air worship, can be seen every weekend around the capital.

The government has asked religious groups to endorse the Covid-19 vaccine. The Catholic Church, evangelical and adventist groups have done so.

But with a tradition of not seeking or trusting medical help, some of the “white garment” churches are refusing to encourage congregations to get vaccinated.

With millions of followers across southern Africa, the church’s stance could undermine Zimbabwe’s attempts to vaccinate 60% of the population by December.

“We believe in God, and science is entirely subject to God’s will,” says Gramaridge Musendekwa, of the Vadzidzi Apostolic church.

“I grew up on my parents’ prayers and I am passing it down to my children. My family will not take the vaccine because we are protected by prayers,” says Musendekwa, 38.

“I believe we should not be forced to get vaccinated. For us who grew up without medicine, vaccinations are an insult to our faith and religion. Surely the authorities can achieve whatever they want to do without involving us.”

The Apostolic position threatens the success of vaccination programmes in southern Africa, according to research published in the Journal of Religion and Health in 2017, which linked it directly to the rise of measles outbreaks in 2009 to 2010.

More than 85% of Zimbabweans identify as Christian, and 37% belong to the Apostolic church.

It is 2 pm on a Saturday and no one at St Peters Apostolic church in Harare is wearing a government-mandated face mask.

After spending hours at a shrine, decorated with red and white flags, Miriam Mushayabasa, 34, a mother-of-three, believes she does not need a vaccine.

“Our preacher gave us a clear instruction that if we use these little stones and holy water, he prayed for, nothing will happen to our families. Since Covid-19 began last March, my family and I have never suffered from this disease, we are as strong as ever,” says Mushayabasa.

“My children are strong, so I have no cause to fear. I have always believed in prayers and this is how I choose to go through this pandemic.”

While the government mandates only the vaccinated can attend religious services, it is tough to enforce in the Apostolic churches, who meet outdoors on hilltops and in fields.

Zimbabwe’s vaccination programme has inoculated 15% of the population since it began in February. It is one of 15 African countries to have achieved the World Health Organisation target of 10% of citizens by September.

Regular vaccine consignments are arriving from China, but the government says misinformation and general mistrust have slowed the vaccination programme.

Prosper Chonzi, Harare’s health services director, says the authorities are running campaigns on the benefits of vaccination to increase take-up.

“Our efforts to continue engaging them [the church] are there, and now there is more literature. It was more people getting sceptical about the vaccine. There is more knowledge about the vaccine.”

Aaron Chakaipa, 40, reflecting the fears of his fellow Apostolic members, says, “I heard that if you get vaccinated, you will not be fertile anymore. I am really scared to take it.

“I believe an individual should make a personal decision and not be cajoled into taking the vaccination. Telling people to stay away from church if they are not vaccinated is the same as forcing the vaccination, which is not right.”

Harare Businessman In Soup For Defrauding Tenant Of Over US$20k

Jail

By A Correspondent- A 54 year old Harare businessman appeared in court yesterday on allegations of defrauding his tenant of his US$20 910 in a lease agreement deal.

Oren Rukwava was facing fraud charges when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Shane Kubonera.

The matter was remanded to today after Rukwava’s defence made an application challenging placement on remand.

The court heard on May 24 the complainant met Rukwava at a shop in the Harare Central Business District after he was referred by an agent.

It is alleged that Rukwava told the complainant that shop number 73 Cameroon Street was going to be vacant on July 1 and agreed on a payment of US$13 000 for rentals and lease agreement.

The court heard that the complainant paid a deposit of US$6 500 to Rukwava who wrote an affidavit confirming that he will change the lease into his name.

It is the State’s case that the complainant went on to pay a total of US$ 20 910 to Rukwava for change of lease agreement as well as shop rental and ZIMRA payments.

The court heard that when the complainant went to occupy the shop on July 1, he realised that the tenants who were using the shop were still there and that Rukwava had not changed the lease agreement.

A report was made leading to Rukwava’s arrest.-statemedia

Biti Names & Shames “Abductors”

By A Correspondent- The opposition MDC Alliance, vice President Tendai Biti has announced names of the Central Intelligence Organisation agents he said were trailing him.

Biti named the CIOs Tuesday in an interview with Zimeye.com following reports that he had been abducted.

He said the two are a Simbanegavi and a Gakanje.

The party’s vice-chairperson, Job Sikhala, also mentioned these names through his Twitter account.

“We know all your plots, and for the record, Simbanegavi and Gakanje, we know u are trailing our Vice President [Tendai Biti].
I won’t mention your first names, but if the push comes to shove, I will expose you. We know your nefarious agenda.
It won’t work. Leave us in peace,” tweeted Sikhala.

Chamisa “Fires” Byo Deputy Mayor

By A Correspondent- The MDC-Alliance youth leadership aligned to Nelson Chamisa has reportedly recalled Bulawayo Deputy Mayor Mlandu Ncube and Ward Five councillor, Felix Mhaka.

According to the letter by the party’s Bulawayo Central district leadership addressed to the district’s main wing, they claim to have, for the past year, questioned the two’s trust, collaboration, decision making and vision.
The letter, which was copied to Chamisa, the provincial youth leadership, Tinashe Kambarami and the provincial chairperson, Alderman James Sithole, among others, read in part:

Clr F Mhaka and Clr M Ncube haven’t done any feedback, anything tangible since they were elected in 2018 and we cannot continue with them anymore. To date, there is no accountability of the ward retention fund.
They haven’t created a progressive environment, even youth empowerment initiative programmes, but instead created a toxic environment of party structures and citizens, without the recognition of mistakes or the willingness to listen to MDC-Alliance structures and residents.
The party’s youth district leaders said they will soon be convening a meeting to nominate shadow councillors to replace the two until party the party holds primary elections.

Contacted for comment by The Sunday News, the two councillors declined to comment on the purported recalling.

ZRP Reap $2,4 Million From Motorists

By A Correspondent- The police has said that they have raised more than $2,4 million in revenue by fining s errant motorists under an operation to reduce road accidents.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the operation was continuing and urged motorists not to be caught on the wrong side of the law.
“The ZRP warns motorists against fitting dangerous bar headlights on their vehicles. Since the commencement of an operation against fitting dangerous headlights, police have arrested a total of 10 950 motorists and a total revenue of $2 483 300 was realised for the State,” he said.
Last month, police also arrested 22 motorists across the country for fitting vehicles with dangerous bar headlights under an ongoing operation bringing the total to number to 8 416.
In July, police attributed extended headlights mounted on vehicles for causing some fatal accidents on the roads.
Through Statutory Instrument 129 of 2015, Government banned the mounting of additional headlights on motor vehicles. The law states that those who want to make any modifications to their cars should first seek authority.
The additional LED light bars that some motorists fitted on their cars cannot be dipped, compromising the vision for other drivers.

Fire Kills Three Children In Seke

By A Correspondent-Three children aged 16, 11 and 8 of the Hwiridza family under chief Seke were burnt beyond recognition after the hut they were sleeping in caught fire, killing them instantly.

The trio named Anesu (16), Kundai(11) and Tadiwa (8) all-male were sleeping in their thatched hut when it caught fire during the early hours of today.
The origin of the fire is not yet known but allegations are that it was a veld fire that torched the roof of the hut.
It is reported that efforts by villagers and relatives to rescue the trio were in vain after they failed to break down the door. The trio’s parents were not at home when the tragedy struck.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the sad incident to The Herald during a telephone interview.
“The remains of the deceased have been conveyed to Chitungwiza Hospital for postmortem. We are currently conducting investigations into this sad incident.”

Mthuli Torches Taboo Storm

By A Correspondent- Finance minister Mthuli Ncube has been accused of building lodges on a sacred site reserved for cultural ceremonies in his rural home in Matobo district, Matabeleland South province.

The area is located in Chap village, a few kilometres from Matopo National Park.

Villagers told Southern Eye that the area is sacred, hence Ncube’s project would defile it.
“For thousands of years, the area has been known for its uniqueness and strange things that used to happen there. One could hear people speaking, cooking and dancing, but if you reach the area you do not see anything,” Vusumuzi Dube, a villager said.
“Because of such things we were told that no one has to build a house there. That is why none of the villagers decided to occupy that place. Do you think no one wanted to build or farm in that area?”
Another villager, Sithandazile Dube said local traditional leaders raised concern over Ncube’s project and appear to have been cowed into submission by government.
“We tried to ask our leaders to stand up and fight for our heritage, but we yielded nothing. When people raised concerns about the Ncube’s project in that area, we were told that he was given permission by government,” Dube said.
“Mthuli was born and raised here; he is the same person who should be protecting our culture. It is unfortunate that there is nothing we can do about it. We will just watch as they destroy our culture. Our heritage is slowly vanishing, it can be this place today and tomorrow it will be somewhere else. There used to be nice caves here called Bhabharadzi, where tourists used to come and visit, but now, even the road has been destroyed.”
Matobo District Council chief executive officer Elvis Sibanda confirmed the project.
“We are aware that the Finance minister is building lodges in Chap area near Whitewater village in Matobo, but I’m not sure if he was given permission to do so by the villagers,” Sibanda said.
“We are not aware that the area is a sacred place that needs to be reserved for cultural heritage. If the villagers are complaining, then the matter needs to be resolved.”
Ncube’s spokesperson Clive Mphambela declined to comment on the matter saying it was personal.
“This is a personal issue that I would not like to talk about as I believe that Ncube is better placed to comment. But, generally the project commenced in 2015 with the permission of cultural leaders and the Road Trust,” Mphambela said.
“The project is meant to benefit members of the community apart from tourists. There is a cultural centre that will be accessible not only to tourists, but also members of the community.”
Mphambela said Ncube had lined up several projects to uplift Matobo district.
“The minister is currently working on two projects which are borehole drilling and building lodges.
“The aim is to drill more than 22 boreholes around Matobo district. So far we have managed to drill 22 boreholes,” he said.
“We are hoping that these boreholes will reduce shortages of water in that district as well as sustain those who do animal and crop farming.”

War Breaks Out Between Vapositori And ZANU PF

A mini war broke out between ZANU PF and vapositori sect members over vending spaces. Party members yesterday clashed with members of the apostolic sect after party members forcibly tried to grab vending bays from Joshua Nkomo street to Fife Street along 5th Avenue in Bulawayo.

The scuffle at the scene – file copy, Newsday

When the Southern eye crew arrived at the scene, there was pushing and shoving as they jostled for marked vending bays, with municipal police struggling to contain the situation that was fast blowing out of hand.

Some Zanu PF members in party regalia claimed they deserved to occupy the vending bays while members of the apostolic sect  claiming the space was reserved for them.

One of the vendors, who only identified himself as Tendai said the place was reserved for apostolic sect members.

“This place had been closed because of the lockdown and before that, it belonged to Vapostori.

“That is why you see that there are a lot of Vapostori here,” he said.

“We got here early in the morning and we were surprised that bays are now being forcibly taken by Zanu PF members. We will not allow this to happen.”

Mayor Solomon Mguni condemned the clashes.

“We condemn, in the strongest sense, the actions by a section of Zanu PF youths who took the law into their own hands by barricading sections of 5th Avenue from Joshua Nkomo Street to Fife Street, marking and allocated each other vending bays on a public road,” he said.

Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial chairperson Obert Msindo said he was not aware of the clashes.

“I am not aware of the issue,” he said. Newsday

Killer-Prayer-Warrior Who Murdered Wife, 2 Kids

A MAN described as a “prayer warrior” by his family was buried yesterday together with his two children he killed in cold blood last week together with their mother, leaving unanswered questions as to what could have driven him to commit the multiple murders.
A sombre atmosphere engulfed Mutasa Cemetery in Gweru when the Woodlands suburb vendor who collapsed and died at Gweru Magistrates Courts was buried together with his children.

Leo Kanyimo (30) allegedly murdered his wife Chipo Shava (30) and their two children, Innocent (4) and one-year-old Tadisa, in cold blood using an axe and a knife on Tuesday last week.

He died two days later at Gweru Magistrates Courts while waiting to be arraigned before a magistrate for initial remand.

Leo, Innocent and Tadisa were buried at Mutasa Cemetery yesterday afternoon, while Chipo will be buried on a date to be announced at her rural home in Mberengwa.

Government came to the aid of the family assisting with the four coffins, blankets, transport and food.

The Gweru community led by mayor Councillor Josiah Makombe came in numbers to pay their last respects to Leo and his children.

Chipo’s relatives allegedly snubbed the burial of their son-in-law and their grandchildren, amid indications that Leo’s father had sent emissaries to Mberengwa to bring the two families to the negotiating table.

Leo’s other child, a six-year-old boy, who survived after he was rescued by a neighbour, also attended the funeral.

First to be buried was Leo in the adult section of the cemetery before Tadisa and finally Innocent were buried in the children’s section.

Leo, who is said to have been extremely violent at the time he was arrested by the police with the assistance of members of the public, could have succumbed to injuries sustained when he was apprehended.

Police sources said he met instant justice during his arrest “because he was extremely violent”.

Leo’s aunt Ms Kedina Kanyimo said she knew him as a quiet, peace-loving person and a prayer warrior, adding that the family was still in shock after learning that he had murdered his family in cold blood. “We are still in shock and so is everyone around here because this is very unusual and uncalled for. Leo is my sister’s son and he was born in Chiweshe. After the separation of his parents, my sister moved back with him and soon she remarried and we grew up with Leo,” said Ms Kanyimo.

“He was a quiet and peace-loving person and was a prayer warrior. He attended AFM church and I started hearing about the alleged murder from social media. It came as a shocker because we know him as a peacemaker and a hard worker.”

She said Chipo was Leo’s second wife after his first wife abandoned him for another man saying he was poor.

“He then married Chipo and they have been together for seven years. During those years, I knew them as greatly in love and that is why this is shocking. Since I was not there on the day of the murder, I wouldn’t comment on it but I believe it’s the work of the devil,” she said.

Ms Kanyimo said Leo’s father had gone to Mberengwa to join Chipo’s family so that the families could work together.

“Chipo’s relatives are not here, yes. But so is Leo’s father who has gone to Mberengwa with some emissaries. We want her to be buried by the two families. We are sorry about what happened and unfortunately we were not there and will never know what drove Leo to commit this heinous crime on his wife and children,” she said.

Said Leo’s brother, Precious: “After all has been said and done, I just want to thank the Government for providing the State assisted funeral. We had nowhere to start financially and the Government has made it possible. Leo and his children have been buried here and Chipo will be buried in Mberengwa thanks to the Government intervention.”

A friend, Mike Nyabeza, said Leo was always busy with his vending business.

“On the day of the murder, Leo suddenly decided to go back home. After some minutes, we were called by his neighbours for help. We tried to open the door but it was locked. We managed to break the window only to find his wife dead on the bed while one of his children was in a pool of blood. We don’t know what really transpired, but on the sad day Leo was too quiet showing that something was bothering him,” he said.

Gweru assistant district development coordinator Mr Tarisai Mudadigwa said Government had assisted the family to bury Leo, his wife and children.

“This is a State-assisted funeral after it was noticed that the burial of these people might be difficult for the remaining family members,” he said.

Cllr Makombe said there is need to consider counselling people who have not been able to provide for their families due to Covid-19 induced lockdowns which cause mental stress.

“We need to have the people counselled because there is this mental health stress. We might call it evil spirits but we need to bring our heads together,” he said.

At around 14.30 PM on Tuesday last week, Leo murdered his wife Chipo who was also a vendor at the shopping centre, his son Innocent and Tadisa.

Chipo’s body lay on the bed and she had a deep cut on the chin and on the head.

Blood had dripped from her onto the floor.

Innocent was lying down on the floor naked with a stab wound on the left side of the chest.

Furniture in the room was all over the place, an indication that Chipo and Innocent tried to fight off their killer.

A bloody wooden hoe handle was near Chipo and a kitchen knife near Innocent.

Tadisa’s body lay on the road about 200 metres away from the house. She had a deep cut on the head. –Chronicle

Fathers Win Birth-Certificate War

A number of experts have expressed their views following a landmark ruling saying fathers have the legal right to obtain birth certificates for their children without the mother in circumstances where the mother has abandoned or deserted the child.
In a judgment handed down on Monday, the Registrar of Births and Deaths was ordered by Harare High Court judge, Justice Owen Tagu, to allow fathers to apply for and obtain birth certificates for their children born out of wedlock if the mothers deserted or abandoned the children.

The Registrar was not allowing fathers to secure birth certificates for their children without a marriage certificate or the mother of the child.

The judgment came after Bernard Tashu together with child rights activist Petronella Nyamapfene approached the High Court to compel the Registrar to comply with the Birth and Death Registration Act which allows fathers to apply for birth certificates for their children in circumstances where the mother abandoned or deserted the child.

Bulawayo-based lawyer Mr Lison Ncube said the High Court is the upper guardian of all minors and what the High Court considers is the best interest of the child.

“I personally think the judgment is in good chase because it is putting the best interests of the child above everything else. It is also helping children who come from these circumstances who also have the right to identity. I totally support it on the basis that it has put the best interest of the child at the forefront and it has made sure that children are not prejudiced of getting the necessary paperwork simply because of various family problems or circumstances they find themselves in,” said Mr Ncube.

He said it was a judgment in the right direction as far as assisting children in getting the required identity which is protected in terms of the Constitution.

“It must be a good day in history for us to be having judgments of that nature,” said Mr Ncube.

Padare/Enkundleni/Men’s Forum on Gender national director Mr Walter Vengesai said children should not be disadvantaged in terms of procuring important documents because of the unavailability of one parent.

“We welcome this development because it’s in the best interest of the child for either of the parents to be able to procure those important documents. We hope that it will enable lots of children without birth certificates to get those documents so that they can sit for exams and do other important things that require those documents,” said Mr Vengesai.

Amakhosikazi FM director and women’s rights activist Mrs Busi Bhebhe said fathers are entitled to equal rights as mothers.

“It’s a fair law given the equality we’ve always been crying for in terms of human rights. Fathers are entitled to equal rights as mothers. They need to have access to their children and children need to be able to get what’s duly theirs, be it from a mother or father. They have to be able to have access to their documents without infringement because one parent is not there,” said Mrs Bhebhe.

She continued: “Where I seem to have a problem is that the ruling didn’t seem to define what abandonment is. My question is, what’s the definition of abandonment because a father may choose to relocate with the child say from the rural areas to the city or vice versa because he’s the breadwinner and the mother failing to equal the financial travel costs may be lied about to say they have abandoned the child.

Or a father may chase away a mother through gender-based violence or the mother runs away to safety and it is defined as abandonment.”

Mrs Bhebhe said the ambiguity in terms of defining abandonment could be used broadly to disenfranchise mothers of their rights over their children.

“It can make a father deprive a child of access to him/her by a mother. Also, is this law going to specify who is considered a father — does it come with a DNA test to prove they’re the real father because with the mother it’s easier. She carried this child for nine months, there’s proof that she carried this child; the clinics have given her a birth record and have said indeed she is the mother.

“How does the father substantiate himself without any biological proof linking him to the child? If those questions are specified in the law, then it’s a fair law. It must be clear how they’re going to roll it out to the rest of us,” said Mrs Bhebhe. Chronicle

Mnangagwa “Barred” From Attending U.S. Democracy Summit

Tinashe Sambiri|Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa wanted to use the COP26 Climate Change Conference in Glasgow to revive his waning political career, it has emerged.

Mr Mnangagwa’s “diplomatic offensive” suffered a terrible blow after the US excluded him from the Summit for Democracy scheduled for December.

Team Pachedu has described Mr Mnangagwa’s journey to Glasgow as “a trip of shame.”

See statement below:

Mr. Mnangagwa blew up a million dollars just to stalk @JoeBiden
, only to be snubbed both in Scotland and a few days later after the trip of shame.

We welcome Biden’s invitation to Zambia, Malawi, Namibia, Botswana and South Africa – SADC’s progressive democracies.

Botswana’s President never went to Scotland, but he has been invited by Joe Biden.

South Africa’s President never went to Scotland, but he has been invited by Joe Biden.

Why has Mnangagwa been snubbed?

President Joe Biden has not invited Zimbabwe to the US Summit for Democracy slated for December 9-10, 2021.

Other regional countries such as Zambia, Botswana and South Africa have been invited.

This is a strong message to Mnangagwa.

Mr Mnangagwa

Special Tribute To Ginimbi

Warriors Star Keen To Excel

Plymouth Argyle defender Brendan Galloway has the chance over the next week to secure a place in the Warriors squad for the delayed 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals.

Galloway made his debut for Zimbabwe in a 1-0 home defeat by Ghana last month after previously playing for England at age-group levels.

The Warriors are away to South Africa at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Thursday and will then host Ethiopia at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The Warriors will begin their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations campaign against Senegal in Bafoussam on January 10.

They will then play Malawi, at the same venue, four days later before taking on Guinea on Yaounde on January 18.

Speaking to The Plymouth Herald, the defender said it would be an honour to represent Zimbabwe at a huge tournament. He said:

Hopefully, I will be involved. It would be an honour to go and represent them and to get that experience at a major international competition.

If I can continue to play well here (at Argyle) and work hard, then hopefully I will see the rewards of that.

Galloway agreed to a short-term contract with Argyle until January when he signed as a free agent before the start of the season and has gone on to put in a series of consistent performances.

His international debut against Ghana meant he returned to Zimbabwe for the first time since he was six years old and his family moved to the UK.

Speaking on his Warriors debut, Galloway said it was a proud moment for him and his family. He said:

It was a great experience being back home. There is nothing like representing your country so it was a very proud moment for me, and a proud moment for my family. Hopefully, it’s the first of many caps.

It was a lot different over there with the weather conditions and having to adapt to playing with different players who I have not played with before, but I really enjoyed it.

The atmosphere in the Zimbabwean camp is really good, we are all in high spirits.

Galloway was an unused substitute for Zimbabwe’s 3-1 defeat away to Ghana on October 9 after his trip to West Africa was delayed.- PlyMouth Live

2 Brothers Bitten To Death By A Snake

Two brothers aged 9 and 13 were bitten by a snake to death while fighting for a bird at Mombeyarara village under chief Makumbe in Buhera.

Tinotenda Mujeyi was bitten on his thigh and Tawananyasha Mujeyi on his foot.

The boys’ coffin before burial

Chamisa Recalls Byo Deputy Mayor

Mavaza Says: Chief Ndiweni Betrayed Zimbabwe In Glasgow-WATCH LIVE.

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | Clad in his traditional attire and representing himself and his ego Chief Felix Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni a Zimbabwean traditional leader and an Outspoken and defiant, Zimbabwean traditional Chief was in Glasgow Scotland where he was once again criticizing the government of Zimbabwe. He claimed that there was political and land-use abuses and human rights abuse in Zimbabwe. Chief Nhlanhlayamangwe Felix Ndiweni stands out as one of the few traditional leaders in Zimbabwe selling out and wishes to see the country’s political and economic crisis continue for the sake of his position.

Chief Ndiweni has formed a pressure group which is aligned to Nelson Chamisa and is called My Right to Vote, this group is aimed at convincing diaspora to rebel against their government and demonise their country in a bid to request foe a vote. The real purpose of the group is just to oppose the government and hope to install Ndiweni back to the chieftaincy he has been removed by his own people.

As President Mnangagwa was in Glasgow reigniting the reengagement process Chief Ndiweni was outside the streets of Glasgow in the full traditional regalia requesting the world to pile more sanctions on Zimbabwe. His efforts as a traditional leader were so embarrassing as compared to ordinary Zimbabweans who were in high morale hoping to see their leader as he lifts the national flag high. There were many presidents who graced the city of Glasgow, and they had their citizens in solidarity braving the rainy cold Scotland, but shame on Ndiweni in his full regalia demonising his country and his president. Ndiweni was leading a handful of pathetic losers who were sponsored by the notorious Rhodie John Burke who is the financial sponsor of the misguided few being misled by a dethroned disgraced Chief Ndiweni. Ndiweni together with John Burke led another pathetic handful of losers to disrupt the Gala which was organised by the ZANU PF UK members and was open to all Zimbabweans to attend in support of the president.

It took the reasoning of the Scottish police who dispersed them and in shame with his tail in between his legs Ndiweni crawled back into his cave.

Chief Ndiweni and his disgracing few followers were trying to spoil the party for Zimbabwe. How cruel some people could be? Day and night Chief Ndiweni and some evil groups masquerading as human rights activists were planning to have flash demonstrations to vilify Zimbabwe and rubbish all the efforts being done by the President. The chief showed no connection with his country as he petitioned the British Prime minister to deny president Mnangagwa entry into UK. Unfortunately for Chief Ndiweni the British Prime minister promised to give a reply after the event. This irked chief Ndiweni who then took his armour to Glasgow where his team of traitors were outnumbered by the Zimbabwean patriots who battled the bad publicity in the streets and won hearts of many Scottish and different nationalities.

One Scottish clergy commented “Some people have no shame. How can they be willing to put their country on sanctions for a vote, why do they not go home and vote if they want a vote so much? This is a shame.”

It is surprising how these malcontents hope to be assisted by demonstrating against their country in the foreign land. Many of these are good for nothing charlatans bent on soiling the good name of Zimbabwe. The sad thing above all is that the whole chief is leading such people.

The people who are working against Zimbabwe are led by a chief whose mind set is pathetic diabolical and indeed demented and some visa seeking losers who intend to hoodwink the British Home office by claiming that they are political activists.

There is a group led by one Yuda working together with an MDC A official Danmore Sithole from Croydon, London. This group failed to demonstrate; their plans of asking the world to add more sanctions on Zimbabwe failed after their hired bus could not leave the depot.
Cde Mabhurukwa; a Zanu-PF UK and Europe official; said “This behaviour of selling your country for a song is disturbing. While it is their democratic right to demonstrate, democracy must have boundaries.”
“These MDC people are a shame to our country. They are from the well-known Movement for Demented Charlatans (MDC), otherwise known as Mentally Disturbed Children Away from Home. MDC A.”
The MDC demonstrators comprises two groups that are confused and paid by their white handlers.

Chief Ndiweni was taking advantage of Zimbabweans without status in the UK. Most of them came to the UK for economic reasons but to get visas fast, they sought asylum in the UK blaming the government for human rights abuses. This is a group which does not hesitate to demonise Zimbabwe and they can do it for hundred pounds a week. The people who came to Scotland to accuse the Zimbabwean government were the Zimbabweans who seek to be recognised as refugees.

The definition of a refugee according to The 1951 United Nations Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees is:

“A person who owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality and is unable or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country; or who, not having a nationality and being outside the country of his former habitual residence as a result of such events, is unable or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to return to it.”

In the UK, a person becomes a refugee when government agrees that an individual who has applied for asylum meets the definition in the Refugee Convention’. That person will be ‘recognised’ as a refugee and issued with refugee status documentation.

In all types of asylum, immigration or human rights applications, evidence is needed to support the application.

Evidence is information to prove to the Home Office, or maybe to the courts if you are appealing a refusal that you are telling the truth. This may be to prove that you need to be in the UK, that you can’t live elsewhere, or just that you meet the criteria (the rules) of the application.

The evidence needed will be specific to your case, to your individual situation. There are, however, some standard rules and principles that need to be met and these will depend on the kind of application you are making.

So in order to get the evidence, many Zimbabweans will lie that they are MDC members so that they can justify that they are being persecuted or fear death if they are returned to Zimbabwe. These are the people who the ruthless chief Ndiweni pounds on and lead them into demonstrations against their country.

So many people will then resort to demonstrations at the Zimbabwean High Commission every twice a week. They will take photos dancing to some funny drum beat shouting obscenities to the embassy staff and insulting their own country all for creating evidence that they are in danger should they be returned to Zimbabwe. These people carried their drums to Glasgow and started to make noise attacking anything Zimbabwean.

Many posted their photos on social media and splash them on the internet and argue that their photos in Glasgow have been viewed by the CIO and that they are now marked for death should they be returned to Zimbabwe. The chief then will say he confirms this and maybe they will be granted visas.

For the selfish reasons of wanting a visa, these people are prepared to portray Zimbabwe as death trap so that the country will be kept on the sanctions list. Imagine how many people will be affected and are being affected by the sanctions. For what? For a visa of one pathetic liar who hates his or her country.

At the early stages of an asylum claim, their evidence may just be their testimony about what has happened to them and/or what they think may happen, and why that means it is not safe to return to your country. So, they feel vindicated if they demonstrate against Zimbabwe.

Chief Ndiweni was in Scotland not because he had a conviction in what he was saying but that he drags Zimbabwe into a dip end just for him to get back the chieftaincy which was never his. Documentary evidence is often hard to get because of the circumstances in which you had to leave your country so photos while you are holding placards denouncing your country being cheered by few colonisers presents a good documentary evidence of the idiocy one displays as they destroy their country. So that was the group which followed Ndiweni behind in Glasgow.

The few we saw in Scotland vilifying Zimbabwe were motivated by the basis of a fresh claim which is new evidence about the original reason they claimed asylum; or it might be that their situation has changed since they claimed asylum and had an appeal heard and dismissed; the situation in their country may have changed; or that by insulting the president they have become surplus evidence and they are new targets.

Every day, all over the world, people make one of the most difficult decisions in their lives: to leave their homes in search of a safer, better life. But they do not set to lie about their country and put those left behind in the jaws of sanctions. The actions of Chief Ndiweni in Glasgow were deeply depressing and flabbergasting.

Most people in the world have had the experience of leaving the place where they grew up. Maybe they will only move as far as the next village or city. But for some people, they will need to leave their country entirely – sometimes for a short time, but sometimes forever. This is the world we are in today. Some people out there are so proud of their countries. Not these few Zimbabweans in the MDC camps and taking a leaf from the confused extinct chief.
Zimbabwe has never seen such problems, like human right abuse or persecution yet Zimbabweans are seen at every international gathering insulting their nation and the leaders. Shame on us.

We still have many Zimbabweans talking bad about our health system. It is not a secret how the Government is renovating hospitals in Zimbabwe. A state-of-the-art hospital is almost getting finished in Bindura.

Sally Mugabe Central Hospital has been refurbished and equipment which costs over half a million has been commissioned. Wilkins hospital was given a face lift and now boasts of world-class Covid-19 treatment facilities.

Many districts and provinces are seeing their hospitals renovated. The time for medical tourists is gone.

The new dispensation is pulling through thick and thin, but we still have some misfits singing the pride of their countries away in demonstrations out of the country.

Some are demonstrating for a diaspora vote in diaspora. How does the United Nations help you with how votes are taken in Zimbabwe?

The hodgepodge groups that participated had no formal affiliation with one another, no clear hierarchy, and no obvious leaders. But social networks helped to virally replicate the movement so that the basic patterns of camping, protesting, fundraising, communicating with the media, and interacting with the authorities were similar from place to place.

So besides trying to destroy Zimbabwe the MDC demonstrations abroad will yield nothing. Most traditional leaders in Zimbawe abide by the Constitution that clearly stipulates that: “Traditional leaders must not–(a) be members of any political party or in any way participate in partisan politics; (b) act in a partisan manner; (c) further the interests of any political party or cause; or (d) violate the fundamental rights and freedoms of any person.”
Chief Ndiweni breaks away from this “norm” and instead has chosen to speak against his country and selling his birth right to the hyenas. He is taking advantage of the weak and marginalized in the UK for his own benefit.

Ndiweni does not shy away from calling for sanctions against his own country, in addressing a press conference in Zimbabwe’s second city of Bulawayo, in 2020 he called for tough actions against the government, even appealing to the international community to escalate sanctions on President Mnangagwa’s government, claiming it has failed to pursue democracy.
Chief Ndiweni claims that the government has failed to protect property rights under the guise of carrying out a land reform. Chief Ndiweni now is calling for the reversal of the land redistribution programme. He stands for everything against Zimbabwe. Yet, traditional leaders still undertake important responsibilities especially in rural areas where 67 per cent of the population resides. Traditional leaders deliver various government responsibilities in some parts of Zimbabwe where the State has no or a limited presence. Their legitimacy, control and influence in rural areas remain. Chief Ndiweni has embarrassed all the chiefs his antics in Scotland were very selfish and cruel to common Zimbabweans.
