Chaos continues in the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change following the recall of four senators who were sworn in Tuesday after they were chosen by a faction led by Welshman Ncube, Tendai Biti and Lynette Karenyi Konye under the proportional representation qouta.

A letter signed by former Entumbane-Makhandeni lawmaker Dingilizwe Tshuma who claims to be the CCC chairperson working closely with Albert Mhlanga, indicates that the recalled proportional representation senators are Kucaca Phulu, Lilian Mlilo, Linda Sibanda and Collet Ndlovu. Phulu was Tshabangu’s attorney.

Speaking to Studio 7 last night, Mhlanga said, “Yes, we had a meeting where we resolved to recall them because Sengezo Tshabangu single-handedly picked former People’s Democratic Party members where he belonged with Tendai Biti and Jacob Mafume. We are CCC which was led by Nelson Chamisa so these PDP members never stopped fighting in the party from the days of the late Morgan Tvsangarai who is the former founding president of the Movement for Democratic Change.”

The four filled posts left vacant following the recalling of some lawmakers, including former Bulawayo Member of Parliament Gift Ostallos Siziba and others by Tshabangu, who still claims that he is the interim secretary general of the party.

Nelson Chamisa dumped CCC a month ago citing Zanu-PF interference.

Responding to this move, Tshabangu, who is now a senator, said, “That’s a kids play and we are above that. Parliament is a respectable institution and it ought to be given that dignified status.”

Tshabangu recalled several CCC lawmakers and councilors resulting in the holding of byelections that were won by the ruling party. The High Court barred the recalled parliamentarians to participate in the byelections held last year and early this month.

Accused of using a vehicle he did not own as collateral for a loan, Meng’s legal representation was provided by Mr. Freddy Masarirevhu. The court has remanded him in custody, with a bail application set for today.

The complainant in this case is 51-year-old Sun Hao, who became a victim of Meng’s elaborate scheme. According to State Prosecutor Mr. Lancelot Mutsokoti, the incident unfolded on February 2nd, when Meng deceitfully borrowed a pearl white Nissan Patrol from Sun under the pretense of needing it for merely four days. However, Meng had ulterior motives, driving the vehicle straight to Wiltech Auto Trade Car Sale, located at 4 Enterprise Road, Harare.

Utilizing fake documents and falsely claiming to be Sun’s agent, Meng managed to sell the vehicle on February 5th, around noon. The unsuspecting buyer, Wilberforce Ruzvidzo of Wiltech Auto Trade Car Sale, was later found to have the vehicle, which Meng had claimed as loan collateral for borrowing money.

When Sun Hao sought to reclaim his Nissan Patrol, he was met with the shocking news of its unauthorized sale. Left with no choice, Sun reported the incident to ZRP Highlands, leading to Meng’s arrest on Sunday. Remarkable detective work led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle from Ruzvidzo, ensuring that the entire value of the vehicle, amounting to US$98,000, was restored.

In an interview with The Herald yesterday after the closing media conference at the 56th UNECA Conference of Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube said he was hopeful that in future, all the sanctions would be removed to allow the country to chart its developmental trajectory unhindered.

A statement reluctantly shared by the workers’ committee revealed that management had promised to settle salaries by March 6, a commitment they did not honor. Subsequently, the management informed the staff of a new payment schedule, with Grade 8 employees to be paid on Friday and Grade 7 on March 14, resulting in a significant delay from the end of the month.

An employee, who requested anonymity, expressed their dissatisfaction, stating, “This is a first for this company and it’s largely due to the uncaring attitude by senior management. They think that we will be satisfied because they too are yet to be paid when we all know that their allowances from January and early February, when they received car allowances, can sustain them. They are also receiving forex fuel coupons while we have to use public transport to work.”

By A Correspondent| The Great Zimbabwe University registrar general, Dr. Sinikiwe Gwatidzo, who has served as Airports Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ) board member, is being accused of running down the organization into a mess through her autocracy and favoritism.

A group of professors, some who lecture at the university, expressed their displeasure and disgruntlement in her style of leadership which has led to many resignations.

In October 2023, the Universities’ Vice Chancellor, Dr. Zvogbo, went on leave which paved the way for Dr. Sinikiwe to run all her shenanigans in a bid to consolidate power and become the most powerful woman in the university. According to the organization’s charter, there has to be two Pro Vice Chancellors; at the moment, there is only one hired from South Africa, Dr. Professor Moses John Chimbari, who has been praised by many lecturers for doing his work very well. It is alleged that Dr. Sinikiwe uses the second vacant post to appoint people of her choice who are loyal to her even though they are not qualified for the post. This person will act as the Vice Chancellor when Dr. Zvogbo is away.

In the absence of Dr Zvobgo , Dr Chimbari is supposed to take over as acting VC as he is the substanive Pro Vive Chancellor appointed by the ministry of education. Dr Gwatidzo appointed Bernard Chazovachii to be acting Vice Chancellor instead, a move which shocked and angered many law abidng proffessors.Chazovadii is an Associate Professor and Dean of the Julius Nyerere School of Social Sciences at Great Zimbabwe University but his ascention was manufactured as a way of Gwatidzo`s greed to consolidate power says witnesses.

According to the amendment of State Universities Statutes Bill published in the Gazette in 2022, there are important values that all state universities have to align with. The amendments aimed at aligning the university Acts with the Constitution and making their provisions more uniform, bringing the universities’ objectives into line with the Government’s education policy, with a focus on the production of goods and services. It also included reducing the size of the university councils and making them more balanced in regard to gender and regional representation, altering the way senior university officers are appointed, introducing principles of good corporate governance, and streamlining their disciplinary procedures.

Dr. Sinikiwe Gwatidzo is being accused of breaking all these standards and trying to create a Macedonian invasion of Alexander the Great in modern times. Speaking to Zimcelebs, one former lecturer explained that the situation had become dire to the extent that he had to choose between his mental health and his job. If you air out your views, you become the enemy, and she does not promote anyone whom she feels she does not want. He further explained that all the problems learners are facing at the university are just a symptom of her conduct at work.

Learners at Great Zimbabwe University have complained about the type of food being served and the nature of their dormitories despite the exorbitant fees they pay. One student council member explained that the registrar does not care about the welfare of the students but is more inclined to consolidating power. Another student from Mashava Campus said the registrar has stayed for too long and she is no longer acting on school development and should be shuffled to pave way for new and better minds. He also described the dire situation in their living rooms and sleeping beds were it is not up to standard all caused by these power struggles initiated by Dr. Sinikiwe.

Another female student from the Mashava campus described a sad situation they find themselves in as they walk to one WIFI spot during the night to do their academic researches. “A big university like GZU cannot have only one WIFI spot she described in utter bewilderment. ” We walk in the dark risking being attacked or raped by gold panners around the campus only to connect to WIFI in this 21st century whilst the top management is trying to be shrewed in power fights.

Another Students Representative member aired out his disbelief on the health care situation on the campus. He said a big campus like Mashava does not have a single ambulance that can take a student to the hospital incase of an emergence.

He said learners are being ferried with a truck like dried tobbaccoo whenever there is an emergence and this is very worrisome for a big instituion like GZU.

He also added that the canteen was burtnt some some months ago but there have been no any efforts to commence the repairs because Dr Gwatidzo is busy making personal decisions.

The constitution of the university section (9:1) says: The Pro-Vice-Chancellor shall be appointed by the Chancellor after consultation with the Minister and the Council, and shall hold office for such period as is provided in his or her contract of employment.

Dr. Sinikiwe is alleged to have not followed these protocols in her influence and other lecturers have also accused her of using love like Aphrodite to make appointments. She has also violated the government protocols in appointing the acting VC in the absence of Dr. Zvobgo, sidelining Dr. Chimbari and putting those from her camp.

According to the Universities Public Relations department, prior to her appointment as the GZU Registrar, Dr. Gwatidzo had served as the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations at the Midlands State University since December 2009.

In that capacity, she was responsible for managing communication with all University stakeholders and fundraising towards major University projects.

A certified Arbitrator in the Construction Industry, Dr. Gwatidzo also served as a Labour Relations Officer in the Ministry of the Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare between 1999 and March 2000 and a Designated Agent for National Employment Council for the Construction Industry of Zimbabwe.

Her duties included grievance handling; conducting hearings; writing determinations; inspection of work sites and industrial areas.

Having such a rich background in her work could have made her a great person, one security guard reiterated, but it has all turned her into a power-hungry Napoleon who will stop at nothing whilst the university lies in desolation.

He further called responsible authorities to take action before many qualified professors leave the institution and the situation worsens. Others are opting not to renew their contracts because of this toxic environment.

High Court Orders Harare Car Dealer to Refund US$87,000 in Fraudulent Vehicle Import Case

HARARE, Zimbabwe – In a significant ruling, the High Court has mandated Confined Auto Private Limited, a car dealership in Harare, to refund the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society the sum of US$87,000. This ruling comes as a resolution to a fraudulent vehicle importation case that has spotlighted the darker side of the country’s booming car import market.

The controversy centers around a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado VX, imported from South Africa in 2019 by Mr. Kudakwashe Matyokurebwa, the owner of Confined Auto. The vehicle was seized by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority two years post-importation, upon the discovery of fraudulent importation practices.

Despite numerous attempts to resolve the issue amicably, the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society, feeling aggrieved by the deception, pursued legal action against Matyokurebwa and his enterprise. They sought not only a refund of the purchase price but also damages equating to the disparity between the refunded amount and the cost of a legally imported substitute vehicle.

Matyokurebwa’s defense hinged on the argument that the vehicle’s value had depreciated due to usage and involvement in two traffic incidents prior to its seizure, thus valuing the car at US$38,000 at the time of its capture. This stance, however, did not sway the court’s judgment.

The group, which prioritises people’s needs, revealed its leadership and outlined its strategic direction on Monday.

Sikhala recently hinted at the idea of forming a forward-thinking, pro-poor, and inclusive political initiative just days after his release from prison last month.

In a statement issued on Monday, NDWG articulated its commitment to fostering a more inclusive and people-centric political environment.

SECONDMENT OF TOP GOVERNANCE TEAM

The National Democratic Working Group (NDWG) is a mass of our people driven movement of the democratic forces in Zimbabwe who are determined to build a solid base for our people to discuss their aspirations and find the best way forward. The NDWG has started the mobilisation of the masses of our people for the ultimate convening of the National Democratic People’s Convention, where people’s ideas and feedback will lead to the formation of a mass-based democratic peoples movement fighting for the takeover of government power.

The establishment of the NDWG is the brainchild of Honourable Job Sikhala and a host of concerned citizens and progressive constituent bodies who believe that the current democratic alternatives have failed to seize the opportunity when it mattered most, when the masses of our people were ready for the coronation of their power.

The lives of our people are in danger due to unending cycles of poverty, oppression, looting and plundering of the national resources and subversion of the will of our people through electoral theft and self imposition by an unpopular tyranny.

At the inaugural meeting of the NDWG, the delegates from the 10 provinces of Zimbabwe and various organisations unanimously resolved the following as part of he process of gathering people’s views about the Zimbabwe that they want;

1. That within a month, Provincial Democratic Working Groups will be constituted by the masses of our people drawn from the churches, business, war veterans, women, youths and students, civil society, people living with disabilities among others whose key function will be to visit every ward and district to collate the views of the masses of our people through group meetings.
2. The NDWG recognises the unresolved business of the war of liberation and takes it forward through a mass democratic struggle.
3. The People are at the centre of solutions to the political, social and economic challenges in Zimbabwe.
4. Inclusivity will define the work of all the organs of the National Democratic People’s Convention which will gather at a date to be advised to deliberate on the way forward based on the submissions from the expected 5 000 delegates.
5. The National Democratic Working Group is a platform for the implementation of the mass democratic struggle of the people of Zimbabwe.

Former Zengeza West legislator Job Sikhala has launched a new movement, the National Democratic Working Group (NDWG), which he hopes will “free masses from political chains”.

The outspoken politician dumped the troubled Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party in February after being released from prison for inciting violence following the murder of an opposition political activist.

In a communiqué, NDWG head of information and communication Darlington Chingwena said the movement was centred on the wishes and aspirations of the masses.

“The NDWG is a mass of our people driven movement of the democratic forces in Zimbabwe who are determined to build a solid base for our people to discuss their aspirations and find the best way forward,” he said.

“The NDWG has started the mobilisation of the masses of our people for the ultimate convening of the National Democratic People’s Convention where people’s ideas and feedback will lead to the formation of a mass-based democratic people’s movement fighting for the takeover of government power.”

Chingwena, who said the national taskforce which is the brainchild of Sikhala and a host of concerned citizens, believes the current democratic alternatives failed to seize the opportunity when it mattered most.

“The lives of our people are in danger due to unending cycles of poverty, oppression, looting and plundering of the national resources and subversion of the will of our people through electoral theft and self-imposition by an unpopular tyranny,” he said.

“At the inaugural meeting of the NDWG, the delegates from the 10 provinces of Zimbabwe and various organisations unanimously resolved the following as part of the process of gathering people’s views about the Zimbabwe that they want.

“That within a month, provincial democratic working groups will be constituted by the masses of our people drawn from the churches, business, war veterans, women, youths and students, civil society, people living with disabilities among others whose key function will be to visit every ward and district to collate the views of the masses of our people through group meetings.

“The NDWG recognises the unresolved business of the war of liberation and takes it forward through a mass democratic struggle.”

Some of the movement’s resolutions were targeted at making people the centre of solutions Zimbabwe’s political and socio-economic challenges.

“Inclusivity will define the work of all the organs of the National Democratic People’s Convention, which will gather at a date to be advised to deliberate on the way forward based on the submissions from the expected 5 000 delegates,” Chingwena added.

President of Zimbabwe Mining Federation (ZMF) Henrieta Rushwaya is a person of interest following allegations that she swindled Indian investors of USD1 million in a botched mining deal, a local online has reported.

Rushwaya allegedly misrepresented to an Indian based company, NV Group that is now being represented by Colonel S S Sidhu in Zimbabwe.

The local online further alleges that Rushwaya’s associate identified as Ashif Adil approached NV group and claimed to be representing President Emmerson Mnangagwa in foreign investments.

“Our chairperson expressed his desire to meet the President and do business in Zimbabwe and he connected Rushwaya on the phone who then claimed that she is speaking on the behalf of the President. Rushwaya had expressed to come to India thereafter but her visa was rejected because of her past deeds. She tried a lot to get the Indian visa but could not get it.

“Thereafter she came to meet the Chairman at Dubai with her 7-8 member team whom she demanded to be put up in a 5 star hotel and all traveled business class from here to Dubai and back. All details are with the police,” said Sidhu.

Investigations established that Rushwaya told investors that he was President Mnangagwa’s niece.

When pressing for payment, Rushwaya allegedly threatened Colonel Sidhu that the deal would collapse if he does not pay at least close to half a million in greenbacks.

Circumstances are that Rushwaya approached the investors and name dropped the President’s name.

She received USD1 million and this publication is in possession of the communication with the the NV group chief executive and proof of payment paper trail.

Investigations by this publication established that Rushwaya is now evading the investors after squandering the money and taking them to a defunct mine at Mufurudzi game park.

Presidential Borehole Drilling Scheme Director, Mr. Paul Tungwarara has since advised residents to follow proper procedures when drilling boreholes.

“People should not just drill boreholes haphazardly so as to avoid contamination.

Proper procedures should be followed, that is consultation with local authorities and ZINWA. In case it has been found that a borehole is contaminated ,it should be chlorified to kill the bacteria. Above all, before a borehole is sunk, it should be noted that it is properly sited considering the depth and avoidance of sewer pipes,” he said.

Zimbabwe has been battling a nationwide cholera outbreak with 26 971 suspected cases having been recorded to date, prompting the ongoing national vaccination campaign.

A 22-year-old man, Tinotenda Chipadze, appeared before the Chegutu Magistrates’ Court on charges of murdering a police officer during a robbery.

The state alleges that on the 3rd of February 2024, around 2:00 AM, Chipadze and an accomplice, Enock who is still at large, followed the deceased officer, Elisha Munengerwa, from a bar in Chegutu to a bus terminus.

They then attacked him near a shop, stabbing him in the arm and stealing his phone before fleeing the scene.

A witness found Munengerwa critically injured and alerted the authorities, he was rushed to Chegutu hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police investigations led to Chipadze’s arrest after he sold the stolen phone.

He remains in custody while the search for Enock continues.

In a separate incident, police arrested three suspects for the brutal assault of a man accused of stealing sugarcane.

The victim, Beven Zenderani (25), was allegedly attacked by a group of men, including a minor, after they accused him and another person of stealing sugarcane.

A video of the assault circulated widely on social media, prompting police to launch an investigation.

The main suspect, James Gumbi (21), along with Hardlife Mananga (30) and Luckson Ruzive (30), were apprehended, while three other individuals remain at large.

In Zimbabwe we continue to witness gross abuses of political, economic, and human rights. The targeting of civil society and severe restrictions on political activity have stifled fundamental freedoms, while key actors, including government leaders, have siphoned off public resources for personal gains. These illicit activities support and contribute to a global criminal network of bribery, smuggling, and money laundering that impoverish communities in Zimbabwe, southern Africa, and other parts of the world.

In response to new and continuing corruption and serious human rights abuse, the United States is refocusing and elevating its efforts to hold accountable the individuals and entities that are responsible for this exploitation. Today, the United States is employing a new set of tools in Zimbabwe, including the flagship Global Magnitsky sanctions program, to make clear that the egregious behavior of some of the most powerful people and companies in Zimbabwe matches the actions of the worst human rights abusers and corrupt actors globally.

Specifically, the Department of the Treasury is designating three entities and eleven individuals, including President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, Brigadier General (Retired) Walter Tapfumaneyi, and businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei, pursuant to Executive Order 13818, which builds upon and implements the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act, for their involvement in corruption or serious human rights abuse. These designations build on recent U.S. Government actions, including pausing U.S. participation in the African Development Bank Dialogue and utilizing the Department of State’s new visa restriction policy for undermining democracy in Zimbabwe. These steps are concurrent with the termination of the preexisting Zimbabwe sanctions program that began in March 2003 and expanded on in subsequent orders. Actions to retire the previous sanctions program and designate key actors under the Global Magnitsky sanctions program are part of an ongoing effort to ensure we are promoting accountability for serious human rights abuse and corruption in a targeted and strategic manner.
