Latest On Rufaro Stadium Reopening

THE country’s ceremonial home of football, Rufaro Stadium is set to be inspected this Saturday by the ZIFA First Instance Board after extensive renovations at the match venue.

Rufaro Stadium has been closed since 2019 and has been undergoing renovations to meet Premier Soccer League standards.

The City of Harare is confident the facility is now ready to PSL host matches with the anticipated visit this Saturday.

“We have done everything as you can see the facility is now usable. Yes, we have one or two finishings to do, but everything suitable to host a Premier Soccer League match is now ready, but we will continue to improve the ground and soon we will move to phase two where we will install bucket seats and floodlights,” said the Mayor of Harare Councillor Jacob Mafume.

The football match venue was supposed to host the Mayor’s Challenge Cup between Dynamos and CAPS United this Sunday, but the Glamour Boys wrote to the City of Harare informing them that they were not prepared to play in a stadium that has not yet been certified.

The Challenge Cup is now expected to be played on the 17th if the facility meets the expected standards.

The City of Harare is also hoping to spruce up Gwanzura Stadium to host football and rugby matches once Rufaro Stadium is approved.

Give Young Women Chance To Excel…

By Gift Ostallos Siziba

Speaking at the launch of the #ElectAYoungWoman campaign led by The Women Academy for Leadership and Political Excellellncy in the capital city.

Gave our affirmation and support for young women who aspire to lead.

In the just ended election President Chamisa was very firm in his deployment of young women that saw the election of the first ever youngest female Mayoress in Masvingo Chantel Chiwara

In Epworth we also deliberately deployed a young female Annah Sande Mayoress to run council.

In Mutare we did the same with Mayoress Sophia Gwasira.

We do so because we believe as Sankara would say, that “there is no true social revolution without the liberation of women.”

Solid Support For President Chamisa In Harare

By Stephen Sarkozy Chuma

08‐02‐2024

One would be forgiven to think that this was national convention by pro‐democracy supporters of Advocate Nelson Chamisa. But alas, this was just a provincial meeting by the legitimate democratic alternative in Zimbabwe.

No words and/or superlatives are good enough to explain the huge turn out of Harare citizens who in clear terms expressed their support for President Nelson Chamisa and his decision to dump the contaminated CCC.

No bussing nor food baits but still citizens from Harare province thronged the opposition offices in Belvedere in their thousands.

This was a huge statement by the Blue Submarine of Harare in support of the former CCC leader, Nelson Chamisa.

Simply put, Chamisa is a loved man! A man of principle who has always chosen to stand with the masses over parochial interests.

That NC, as President Chamisa is affectionately addressed by his supporters, did not attend today’s meeting but still multitudes attended the program is a big big statement. Chamisa has become an idea whose time has come.

Neither vote rigging, arbitrary arrests, political killings, propaganda nor force can destroy this honorable man.

Change is coming!

EU Maintains Sanctions On Mnangagwa Regime

The EU’s decision marks the continuation of an arms embargo initially imposed in 2011 on the Zimbabwean government, extending it for another year.

The arms embargo, initially enacted on February 15, 2011, through the adoption of Decision 2011/101/CFSP by the EU Council, remains in effect, reflecting ongoing concerns.

To Hell With Your Chamisa, Sikhala’s Been Instrumental In Shaping Zimbabwe- Kudzotsa

By Dorrothy Moyo | The situation unfolding in Zimbabwe involving legislator Job Sikhala, controversial Prophet Richard Chiza, and the specter of Nelson Mandela presents a multifaceted scenario of political maneuvering, identity appropriation, and the quest for legitimacy amidst crisis. The reluctance of Zimbabweans to embrace another Nelson, not Nelson Chamisa, even in a Mandela-esque role, demands analysis through various prisms. The Sacredness of Mandela’s Legacy:* Nelson Mandela’s global stature as a symbol of freedom, resilience, and anti-apartheid struggle is unparalleled. His legacy, deeply revered not just in South Africa but around the world, including Zimbabwe, is seen as almost sacrosanct. Any attempt to claim someone as his reincarnation might be perceived as opportunistic or disrespectful, leading to skepticism and resistance from the public. Invoking Mandela’s name in political or spiritual contexts risks diminishing a universally respected legacy, which many are hesitant to support.

Political and Spiritual Manipulation:

The revelation of a plan by the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) to portray Sikhala as a Mandela reincarnate, especially under questionable circumstances, introduces elements of political and spiritual manipulation that the public likely finds difficult to accept. In a nation with a history of political suppression and manipulation, such tactics are typically viewed with suspicion and considered another strategy to undermine genuine political opposition or dissent. Loyalty to Nelson Chamisa: Nelson Chamisa, as a prominent opposition figure, has garnered considerable support. His followers might see Sikhala’s emergence in a Mandela-like role, particularly without openly aligning with Chamisa, as a diversion or threat to the legitimate opposition movement. In a political culture where personal loyalty and party affiliation are significant, attempts to create a parallel iconography without the endorsement of recognized leadership are bound to face resistance. – The Role of Prophets and Prophecies in Politics:** Zimbabwe, like many African nations, has a rich spiritual landscape where prophets and prophecies hold substantial influence. However, the politicization of prophecies, especially those appearing to serve specific political ends or personalities, can lead to public skepticism. When spiritual leaders such as Prophet Chiza engage in political narratives, it risks alienating those who view such actions as exploiting spiritual authority for political purposes. Credibility and Authenticity Concerns: The acceptance of a political figure by the public, especially in a role as significant as being Mandela’s reincarnate, hinges on credibility and authenticity. Sikhala’s political history, his detention, and the way this narrative has been introduced may not convincingly align with Mandela’s legacy of leadership, moral authority, and sacrifice in the eyes of many Zimbabweans. The hesitance among Zimbabweans to accept another Nelson, particularly under the guise of Mandela and without Nelson Chamisa’s explicit backing, reflects broader issues about authenticity, political manipulation, and the protection of revered legacies. As Zimbabwe navigates these complex dynamics, the efficacy of such symbolic gestures in uniting opposition forces remains highly contested, underscoring the challenges of achieving unity and legitimacy in a tense political environment.

Chamisa Pulls Thousands In Midlands

By Political Reporter – Thousands of people have flocked to a meeting in the Midlands province on Saturday organised by Nelson Chamisa’s dedicated team, signalling widespread support for his upcoming political venture.

Gift Ostallos Siziba, a prominent figure in Chamisa’s inner circle and a key organiser of the meetings, shared captivating images on his social media platforms, showcasing the massive turnout in the heart of Harare.

The pictures depict an assembly of hundreds of thousands of individuals, underscoring the significance of Chamisa’s political influence.

Mid this week, Siziba led Chamisa’s team in Harare after holding a similar in Manicaland .

In Mutare he told their supporters that:
“The struggle (for freedom) has taken long because of power-hungry individuals. We must focus on transforming the lives of every Zimbabwean, and Chamisa is the only person who can bring about that transformation.”

Assuring the crowd of Chamisa’s unwavering commitment to positive change, Siziba accused ZANU PF of manipulating Sengezo Tshabangu, the CCC’s disputed interim secretary-general, to secure a two-thirds majority in Parliament.

Tshabangu’s recall of several CCC members reportedly contributed to ZANU PF’s success in subsequent by-elections.

In response to former Finance Minister Tendai Biti’s claim of being CCC vice president, Siziba clarified that such a position only existed in the MDC, where Biti served as VP.

He highlighted Chamisa’s decision to centralise power within his office ahead of the 2023 elections, dissolving CCC structures in the process.

Chamisa, advocating for a political movement rather than a traditional party, aims to draw on insights from various political entities, including ZANU PF, to challenge the ruling party effectively.

Despite skepticism surrounding Chamisa’s chances, Siziba acknowledged the arduous nature of the struggle, urging critics to delve into history, understand the challenges faced, and emphasise the need for persistence until victory is achieved.

Villagers Storm Chipinge Court Over Their Grabbed Land

By Claris Madhuku- Over 300 villagers from Mahachi village in ward 24, under Chief Musikavanhu, rallied at the Chipinge Magistrates Court on Friday, protesting a pending land dispute with the Chipinge Rural District Council.

The court, expressing scepticism about the proper presentation of the villagers, allowed them to return home while the Chipinge RDC organised its case.

The disarray was evident as warned and cautioned statements signed by the villagers were deemed shambolic, necessitating a reworking to articulate the charges accurately.

The perplexing situation of over 300 villagers being brought to court in a single day without processed dockets led to chaos at the Magistrates court.

Professor Lovemore Madhuku, the villagers’ legal representative, working through Advocate Tazvitya, maintains that his clients, indigenous natives of Mahachi village, have no case to answer since time immemorial.

Simultaneously, 500 households from Munyokowere village in ward 5, summoned by Chipangayi ZRP on February 9th, are scheduled to appear at Chipangayi police station on February 10th, 2024, facing similar charges of residing illegally on gazetted land.

The case is already in court, with Chipinge RDC restrained by a High Court order from interfering with Munyokowere and Kondo villagers.

The looming threat of displacement and dispossession hangs over Munyokowere, Mahachi, Kondo, and Maunganidze villagers due to a land dispute dating back to 2018 when the second republic replaced the Mugabe regime.

Platform For Youth and Community Development (PYCD), in collaboration with various national civic society organisations, is diligently working to defend and protect the rights of the affected villagers.

Komichi Preaches Opposition Unity

Former opposition MDC National Chairperson Morgan Komichi has rallied opposition forces to unite and save the country from total collapse saying the prevailing situation is nearing 2007.

Posting on Twitter, Komichi said;

“Zimdollar has lost value. Exchange rate has bolted out. Cost of living is pinching 90% of the Zimbabweans. The economy has nose dived putting the state in a quandary. We ar almost getting into the 2007 Economic crisis. Where is the Opposition to save Zimbabwe? Let’s all unite!!!”

Komichi recently quoted controversy when he appeared together with freed former Zengeza West legislator Job Sikhala where he was making a statement on his political future.

Many people said Komichi was responsible for destroying the then MDC Alliance after he partnered with Douglas Mwonzora to take away the party from youthful politician Nelson Chamisa.

Musicians Exchange Their Brains for Chikurubi Inmate Wicknell Chivayo’s Brand New Cars

Advisory for Musicians

By Farai D Hove | In recent weeks, there has been a concerning trend among musicians considering trades with convicted money launderer Wicknell Chivayo, exchanging their brains for brand new cars. However, before embarking on this risky journey, it’s crucial for musicians to weigh the potential consequences and take necessary precautions, especially when navigating dangerous potholed roads.

Here are some key points to consider:

1. **Value Your Brain**: Your brain is your most precious asset as a musician. Trading it for material possessions, no matter how tempting, is not worth the risk. Think long-term and prioritize your well-being over short-term gains.

2. **Question the Deal**: Transactions involving convicted individuals like Wicknell Chivayo should raise red flags. Before engaging in any deals, thoroughly research the implications and legal ramifications. Remember, there are no shortcuts to success, and unethical deals can have severe consequences.

3. **Assess Road Conditions**: Driving on potholed roads can significantly increase the risk of accidents and injuries. Prioritize safety by avoiding routes with poor road conditions whenever possible. If unavoidable, drive cautiously, and be prepared for unexpected obstacles.

4. **Maintain Vigilance**: Stay alert and vigilant while driving, especially on hazardous roads. Keep a safe distance from other vehicles, obey traffic laws, and use defensive driving techniques to mitigate risks.

5. **Invest in Safety Measures**: If you must drive on dangerous roads, invest in safety measures such as comprehensive insurance coverage, regular vehicle maintenance, and defensive driving courses. These precautions can help minimize the impact of potential accidents.

6. **Consider Alternative Transportation**: Explore alternative transportation options, such as carpooling, public transit, or ridesharing services, particularly if traveling on risky roads. Collaborating with fellow musicians or friends can not only reduce costs but also enhance safety.

7. **Prioritize Health and Longevity**: Ultimately, your health and longevity should be your top priorities. No material possession is worth compromising your well-being or risking your life. Choose investments and opportunities that align with your values and contribute positively to your future.

In conclusion, while the allure of brand new cars may be enticing, musicians should exercise caution and prioritize their well-being when considering trades with individuals like Wicknell Chivayo. Protecting your brain, making informed decisions, and driving safely on hazardous roads are essential steps to safeguarding your future in both the music industry and life as a whole.

Tshabangu Lands Parliament Seat Through Back Door

By Political Reporter- In a move indicative of his insatiable thirst for power, the controversial and self-imposed CCC interim secretary general, Mr Sengezo Tshabangu, has orchestrated his entrance into Parliament through a dubious backdoor manoeuvre.

Tshabangu, exhibiting a clear display of power hunger, has manoeuvred himself into a position as a Senator by shamelessly nominating himself to fill one of the vacant party seats in the Senate and the National Assembly.

The vacancies, conveniently created by Tshabangu’s recall of CCC legislators, served as the perfect opportunity for him to advance his political agenda.

Tshabangu’s machinations include recalling elected National Assembly legislators and local authority councillors, triggering by-elections that ultimately favoured Zanu PF.

However, Tshabangu, driven by an unbridled desire for authority, exploited a loophole in the electoral process.

For those elected under the party lists, the CCC had to submit replacement names to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, allowing Tshabangu to sidestep any democratic scrutiny.

The list of Tshabangu’s handpicked candidates for the National Assembly and Senate positions was formally gazetted by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission chairperson, Justice Priscilla Chigumba.

Despite the controversial nature of Tshabangu’s manoeuvre, objections are permitted within a 14-day window.

In Bulawayo, Tshabangu’s stronghold, he strategically nominated candidates for Senate seats, virtually replacing the entire CCC Bulawayo contingent.

This calculated move underscores Tshabangu’s relentless pursuit of influence within the party ranks.

Tshabangu’s power-hungry tactics are further exemplified by his nominations for Matabeleland North vacancies, where he, alongside Teresa Kabondo and Grace Mumpande, seeks to replace established figures within the party.

The shadow of Hellen Zivira, Gideon Shoko, and others looms as Tshabangu attempts to consolidate his grip on party positions.

In the National Assembly, Tshabangu selected a list of nominees for the women’s quota seats, solidifying his control over the party’s legislative representation.

How Tshabangu orchestrates these appointments underscores his determination to reshape the political landscape to suit his ambitions.

As the by-election results solidify Zanu PF’s dominance, courtesy of Tshabangu’s recalls, the political arena witnesses a blatant power play.

Tshabangu’s manoeuvres reflect his unapologetic power hunger and contribute to Zanu PF’s strengthening grip on a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly.

In this political chess game, Tshabangu emerges as a central player, driven by an unyielding appetite for authority and control.

Mnangagwa Arrests & Deports Zambia’s Opposition Leader

By Political Reporter-Authorities in Harare have arrested and deported Lusaka Times reported that Chishimba Kambwili, a member of Zambia’s former ruling party, the Patriotic Front (PF).

Kambwili was deported from Zimbabwe and returned to Zambia after spending at least nine days in custody.

Kambwili had sought refuge in Zimbabwe on January 30, 2024, allegedly for medical treatment with the assistance of a Zimbabwean citizen.

However, upon his arrival, Zimbabwean authorities arrested him.

Zambia’s Home Affairs Minister, Jack Mwiimbu, confirmed that Kambwili was handed over to Zambian authorities at the Chirundu border post on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at 23:00 hours.

Currently admitted to Maina Soko Hospital in Lusaka, Kambwili’s health condition is under assessment.

Minister Mwiimbu addressed the media in Mushindamo District, clarifying that Kambwili had entered Zimbabwe illegally and voluntarily surrendered his passport to immigration officers at the Chirundu border upon their request.

He stressed that the Zambian government did not seize Kambwili’s passport or impede his travel for medical purposes.

Minister Mwiimbu reiterated the collaborative efforts between the Zambian and Zimbabwean governments in locating Kambwili, deemed an illegal immigrant in Zimbabwe due to his unauthorized entry.

Consequently, Zimbabwean authorities decided to deport him, a decision Minister Mwiimbu commended.

Responding to social media claims of mistreatment, Minister Mwiimbu highlighted President Hakainde Hichilema’s directive to provide Kambwili with access to medical care, irrespective of his criminal record and political affiliation.

He underscored the government’s dedication to ensuring the well-being of all citizens, exemplified by Kambwili’s evacuation for medical attention.

Sikhala Dumps Chamisa, Commits Political Suicide

By Political Reporter – Former Zengeza West MP Job Sikhala Thursday committed political suicide by dumping his longtime comrade and former Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa, in his expressions of gratitude for those who supported him during his imprisonment.

The notable omission occurred during Sikhala’s press conference in Harare, where he not only distanced himself from the CCC but also unveiled his ambitious new political initiative, showcasing remarkable courage against the oppressive Zanu PF government.

Chamisa is the most popular politician and the country’s only alternative leader.

Brandishing the CCC as a “carcass,” Sikhala declared his departure, asserting that relying on the CCC as a catalyst for democratic change in Zimbabwe was futile.

During the press conference, Sikhala emphasized the importance of a people-driven movement, declaring:
“The mass democratic struggle is people-driven and owned. Every successful struggle in the world has thrived when the people have claimed ownership. Regardless of my personal involvement, considering the persistent threats to my life by unidentified enemies, this process must continue unhindered. Whether we have resources or not, the people must spearhead this crucial phase in our history—the people’s struggle against tyranny for freedom, dignity, and prosperity.”

While extending well wishes to those opting to remain with the CCC “carcass,” Sikhala acknowledged their democratic right, underscoring the urgency for the people to assume control in the impending critical phase of Zimbabwe’s struggle against tyranny.

Sikhala’s announcement closely follows Nelson Chamisa’s recent departure from the CCC, who attributed his exit to alleged ZANU PF infiltration just two weeks ago.

Having spent an astonishing 595 days in pre-trial detention on charges of inciting public violence, Sikhala, recently released, now faces another legal battle.

On Wednesday, Harare Magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka convicted him of publishing falsehoods prejudicial to the state. The court is slated to deliver its sentence on 16 February, further complicating Sikhala’s unwavering commitment to Zimbabwe’s democratic evolution.

A motorist captured on video recently attacking a Tendy Three Investments (TTI) parking marshal was granted bail when he appeared in court facing an assault charge.

Washington Nhenderere was not asked to plead when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Maxwell Ncube, last week.

He was granted US$200 bail and remanded to February 12 for trial.

It is the state’s case that on January 26, Nhenderere assaulted a TTI marshal who had asked him to pay US$1 for parking fees.

The TTI marshal was hit by Nhenderere using open hands and fists.

Nhenderere was later arrested by police officers from Bulawayo Central Police station.

The incident comes at a time when the traffic management company in conjunction with the police and the Central Vehicle Registry department have launched an operation targeting motorists that have broken or confiscated their clamping gadgets.

It is said that tampering with a clamping gadget attracts a US$150 fine and in the event that the offending vehicle is towed to an impounding yard, the owner is liable to pay US$30 per hour.

Chinese Lithium Miners Exploiting Zimbabwean Workers

Workers unions have flagged deteriorating labour standards at Chinese lithium mines.

Chinese investors own most of the best producing lithium mines in Zimbabwe.

These are Sinomine Resource Group Co Ltd which owns Bikita Minerals, Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt Company Ltd, the parent of Arcadia Mines, and Suzhou TA&A Ultra Clean Technology Co Ltd with an interest in Premier’s Zulu Lithium.

During a recent multi-stakeholder conference organised by the Centre for Natural Resource Governance (CNRG), Zimbabwe Diamond and Allied Workers Union (ZDAMWU) secretary-general Justice Chinhema flagged the deteriorating working conditions at Chinese-owned mines.

He said there was a total disregard for health and safety standards during lithium extraction.

“Chinese investors do not respect the labour rights in the sector, we need to have routine visits at their mining sites given their history of labour violations. The jobs brought by these investments are not linked to any standards, but to self-created cheap and free labour and sometimes supported by our government,” he said.

“The current situation in the lithium sector is so sad, if not addressed urgently we are going to face another wave of colonisation, slavery and cheap and free labour. As labour and as a trade union, we advocate systems that balance the power between capital and labour through approaches that guarantee the improvement, promotion and protection of workers’ rights and interests characterised by economic equality, good governance and justice for all in society.”

He said about 5 000 employees were working at lithium mining companies in Zimbabwe under constrained labour conditions in a “wave of colonisation, cheap labour and violations of human rights”.

Additionally, ZDAMWU alleges that Chinese-owned mining companies are offering employees short-term fixed contracts while terminating black indigenous company subcontracting in preference for Sino firms linked to parent mining companies for rudimentary services.

ZDAMWU found that the sidelining of locally-owned companies in the provision of basic services including stone crushing and compacting is a drawback on opportunities for local value addition and beneficiation.

“One thing about subcontracting is that the Chinese are bringing in fellow companies and they are terminating the contracts of black indigenous companies and awarding subcontracts to companies linked to the mother companies in China,” Chinhema said.

CNRG found unequal job opportunities in the mining sector, male dominance, and sexual exploitation, necessitating an interrogation into how the extraction of transitional minerals impacts labour practices.

CNRG deputy programmes director Tracy Mutowekuziva said labour challenges in the sector were not limited to formally employed workers but extended to child labour and exploitation of women in the lithium sector.

“There have been reports of forced labour, child labour, and exploitation of vulnerable populations, further exacerbating the suffering of these communities,” she said.

“Our role as a civic organisation is to engage with government institutions, policymakers and industry stakeholders to advocate policy reforms that promote transparency, accountability, and community participation in natural resource management.”

Government has in the past been notified of such practices by Chinese investors but has been accused of not responding to such concerns given that China is a big investment partner.

According to the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency, China had US$2,79 billion worth of investment licences issued as of the third quarter of last year.

Land Contestations Resurface In Chipinge

By A Correspondent| Today on the 9th of February 2024,over 300 villagers from Mahachi village in ward 24 under Chief Musikavanhu stormed and jammed the Chipinge Magisttates court over a pending land dispute with Chipinge Rural District Council.

The Magistrates court in Chipinge was not convinced that the villagers were properly brought before it and had to allow the villagers to go back home as Chipinge RDC puts her house inorder.

Some of the warned and cautioned statements signed by the villagers were shambolic and needed to be reworked to correctly state the charge for the villagers .

It was also embarassing to fathom why more than 300 villagers would be brought to court on one single day without processed dockets, thereby causing chaos at the Magistrates court.

The lawyer for the villagers Professor Lovemore Madhuku working through Advocate Tazvitya, remains convinced that his clients who are indigenous natives of Mahachi village since time immemorial have no case to answer.

Meanwhile, 500 households from Munyokowere village in ward 5 of Chipinge RDC have been summoned by Chipangayi ZRP today on the 9th of February to come to Chipangayi pilice station on the 10th of February 2024 over similar charges of staying illegally on a gazetted land.

This case is before the courts with Chipinge RDC having been given a High Court order not to interfere with the villagers of Munyokowere and Kondo.

Munyokowere, Mahachi, Kondo and Maunganidze villagers are facing the threat of displacement and dispossessions due to a land dispute backdated to 2018 when the second republic replaced the Mugabe regime .

Platform For Youth and Community Development – PYCD is working closely with a number of national based civic society organisations to defend and protect the rights of the villagers.

Only dialogue and not the courts and the police will be able to provide a sustainable solution to this land dispute in question.

Hailstorm Hits Zvishavane

A destructive hailstorm wreaked havoc at Gresham Primary School in Zvishavane this Wednesday, causing extensive damage to property worth thousands of dollars.

The storm tore off the roofs of three classroom blocks, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

The aftermath of the hailstorm left 159 learners stranded, as asbestos sheets were ripped off and textbooks, exercise books, and furniture were destroyed.

Mr. Chrispen Moyo, the Head of Gresham Primary School, confirmed the incident and the extent of the damage.

“We experienced a hailstorm on Wednesday that caused significant destruction at our school, resulting in the classroom roofs being blown away.

Additionally, large trees in the vicinity of the school were uprooted.

We have already submitted a report to the local authorities, and fortunately, there were no fatalities recorded. While all pupils are safe, the damage to property is extensive,” Mr. Moyo stated.

Zvishavane District Development Coordinator, Mr. Darlington Chokera, is actively assessing the damage on the ground alongside the District Civil Protection Unit (CPU).

“We are currently on-site assessing the extent of the damage and addressing any emergency cases. With support from the CPU, we are determining the best course of action to assist those affected,” Mr. Chokera explained.

Blue Card For Unruly Soccer Players Coming

State media

Football, often hailed as ‘the world’s most beautiful game,’ is on the brink of embracing a new innovation: the introduction of sin bins, accompanied by a new card.

The familiar yellow and red cards will soon have a new companion – the blue card, set to make its debut in the sport.

The blue card will signify sin bins, or temporary dismissals, allowing players to temporarily exit the field to deter abuse directed at referees.

According to reports, players will face a 10-minute expulsion from the game for committing cynical fouls or displaying dissent, as reported by The Telegraph.

In the event a player receives a second sin bin during the same match, they will not be permitted to return to play, although they can be substituted if their team has remaining substitutes. This approach offers a somewhat more lenient consequence compared to the traditional method of receiving two yellow cards, which results in a team playing with ten players.

This development aims to address player conduct and enhance respect for match officials, bridging the gap between yellow and red card offenses.

In November, The Guardian reported that blue cards have undergone trials in English football since the 2019-20 season, involving 31 grassroots leagues.

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) is anticipated to make an official announcement soon.

The Football Association (FA) of England disclosed that 72% of players, 77% of managers, and 84% of referees in grassroots football endorsed the sin bin rule, contributing to a 38% reduction in dissent.

Football has a history of embracing innovations, evidenced by the introduction of goal-line technology in 2014, Video Assistant Refereeing (VAR), and the adjustment of the number of substitutes permitted from three to five.

Nelson Chamisa’s Grassroots Support Unassailable

How Do You Rate Minister Tatenda Mavetera’s Performance?

By A Correspondent

In the heart of Zimbabwe, amidst political turmoil and economic challenges, emerges a figure stirring both hope and skepticism.

Minister Tatenda Mavetera, a member of the ruling Zanu PF party, holds the dual roles of ICT Minister and Chikomba West MP.

Her recent endeavors have sparked debate, with some hailing her as a beacon of progress while others question the efficacy of her efforts within the broader political landscape.

Despite the contentious nature of her political affiliation, Minister Mavetera has been garnering attention for her initiatives, particularly in the realm of healthcare.

Recent reports from Chikomba West Constituency detail a medical outreach program that provided free services and medication to nearly 400 individuals in underserved communities.

This endeavor, spanning Ward 8 Mashayamvura and Ward 4 Nyamasheche, aimed to address the pressing healthcare needs of vulnerable populations.

One of the focal points of Minister Mavetera’s agenda is the establishment of healthcare infrastructure, with plans to construct hospitals and clinics every 5 kilometers.

This ambitious vision aligns with the broader objectives set forth by Emmerson Mnangagwa, emphasizing inclusivity and accessibility in healthcare delivery.

Through partnerships with organizations such as Telone, Zim Smart, Bio Gene, and Batsi Health Services, Minister Mavetera aims to bridge the gap in medical services for marginalized communities where access to healthcare remains a distant reality.

However, amidst the commendations for her proactive approach, there looms a shadow of skepticism.

Analysts and critics argue that Minister Mavetera’s endeavors, though commendable on the surface, are rendered futile within the context of the regime she represents.

The Zanu PF-led government has faced criticism for its authoritarian tendencies and alleged disregard for human rights.

In this light, some question the sincerity of Minister Mavetera’s efforts, viewing them as mere attempts to whitewash the tarnished image of the ruling party.

As Minister Mavetera continues to navigate the intricate terrain of politics and public service, the verdict on her legacy remains uncertain.

Will she emerge as a genuine catalyst for change, transcending partisan divides to enact meaningful progress? Or will her aspirations be overshadowed by the systemic challenges ingrained within the political establishment she represents? In the complex tapestry of Zimbabwean politics, Minister Tatenda Mavetera stands at a crossroads, poised to either ascend as a shining star or fade into the annals of political ambiguity.

Only time will tell which path she ultimately traverses, and whether her endeavors leave an indelible mark on the landscape of Zimbabwean governance.

Hugo Broos Unhappy With Bafana Bafana Performance

Sports Correspondent

South Africa’s national team coach, Hugo Broos, expressed disappointment despite his team’s strong performance against Nigeria in the 2023 Afcon semifinal clash.

Bafana Bafana suffered a heartbreaking loss, falling 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the end of extra time.

Broos believed his team delivered a superior performance and could have emerged victorious.

Speaking after the match, Broos highlighted his team’s dominance, stating, “I think we were the best team in the first half, we had the best chances.”

He lamented Nigeria’s few opportunities in the first half and acknowledged their second-half goal but emphasized his team’s resilience.

Broos reflected on missed opportunities, stating, “Football can be hard… If we could score there, it’s us going to the final and not Nigeria, that can happen in football.”

Despite the disappointment, he praised his team’s overall performance throughout the tournament.

Despite missing out on the final, South Africa will now face DRC in the third/fourth playoffs, providing an opportunity for redemption.

“Job Sikhala is Better than Chamisa By Far ??” – Kirinjani

By Political Reporter | Last Sunday, a video surfaced, showing controversial Prophet Richard Chiza instructing legislator Job Sikhala, freshly released from detention, to embrace a psychological maneuver by the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) suggesting he is a reincarnation of Nelson Mandela. This disclosure occurs against a backdrop of intricate political maneuvering and public skepticism.

Two years prior, the CIO devised a strategy to induce Sikhala and a UK-based cousin to claim they were Mandela’s incarnates during distressing periods. Exposed by ZimEye, this plot aimed to legally ensnare them under terrorism charges akin to those Mandela could face today, thereby legitimizing harm against them and others. Three CIO members initiated contact post-arrest, aligning with state efforts to suppress dissent.

During last Sunday’s church service, Chiza stated, “I am not prophesying, I am interpreting because I don’t want people to say Chiza prophesied, no, it’s a dream,” directing Sikhala to forego suits as part of adhering to a divine message. Sikhala acknowledged, resonating Mandela’s voice, which he and others have noticed in his speech.

Adding to the controversy, yesterday Sikhala addressed the nation in Harare, conspicuously omitting thanks to Nelson Chamisa, Zimbabwe’s notable opposition leader. This snub coincided with a Bulawayo prophet’s claim that Sikhala is Mandela’s incarnate, destined to mimic the anti-apartheid hero’s attire by divine decree. Despite these assertions, a survey last week indicated widespread public dissent. However, Sikhala’s Mandela-esque tone during a post-release interview signals his acceptance of this mantle. With criticism mounting against Chamisa for perceived leniency and excessive piety, Sikhala’s emergence as a Mandela figure hints at a potential shift in opposition politics, offering a more assertive alternative to Chamisa.

This development stirs speculation about Sikhala’s political trajectory absent the endorsement of “the real Nelson,” Chamisa.

As Zimbabwe navigates these unfolding dynamics, the question remains: Can Sikhala, with his newfound Mandela persona, rally opposition forces effectively without Chamisa’s backing? The situation underscores the complex interplay of political identity, spiritual prophecy, and public opinion in Zimbabwe’s tumultuous political landscape.

Hugo Broos Not Leaving Bafana Bafana

Sports Correspondent

Following South Africa’s semifinal loss to Nigeria in the 2023 Afcon tournament, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has addressed speculation about his future with the team.

South Africa faced a tough defeat, losing 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the end of extra time. Despite the disappointment, Broos remains committed to his role as head coach.

In a statement after the match, Broos clarified his stance, stating, “First of all, I never said that I should stop – I never said it. It was only when you talk about my age and then I think it’s normal that you think about ‘yeah, maybe it’s time that I’m going to stop’. But I never said that I was going to stop or that I stop.”

He emphasized his satisfaction with the team’s progress, stating, “I’m very happy in my job as I said a few days ago.
The guys give me a lot of satisfaction, a lot. I’m proud as a coach to be a coach of that team. So the rest the future will tell us.”

Broos’s declaration reaffirms his dedication to guiding Bafana Bafana forward, despite the setback in the tournament.

Vubachikwe, A Case of False Promises And Uncertainty

By Ali Matapira | The prospects of Vubachikwe Gold Mine’s reopening are looking bleak as a forensic investigation report identifies a number of issues ranging from mismanagem

Duration Gold Director

ent, mounting debts, and operating in bad faith.

The damning report, which was conducted by ForFar Forensics, a South African forensic company, may be the figurative black cloud hovering over the heads of the workforce that still hoped to be bread winners again.

Vubachikwe Gold Mine in Gwanda closed on the 8th of November 2022, after workers downed their tools due to outstanding salary payments, poor working conditions and other issues. According to the report Duration Gold, who are the owners of Vubachikwe Gold Mine, and its subsidiary Forbes and Thompson (Pvt) Ltd, are swimming in murky waters due to a ballooning debt of over US$ 8 592720.00 and ZWL 3 556 917 841.00 as of November 2023. A monthly debt increase is estimated at approximately US$250 000.00 and there is no laid out plan or strategy to service the debts.
The forensic investigation report was conducted between the period of January 2022 to November 2023. The aim was to look into the overall management of Forbes and Thompson (Pvt) Ltd and its associated group companies in Zimbabwe. The results show a number of irregularities that do not portray a positive position for the company to get back on its feet. Much of the problems apparently emanate from the major shareholder’s incompetence, over-expenditures and mismanagement of funds. MR Allan Brent Dolan is the major shareholder and Managing Director of Forbes and Thompson and seems to have an appetite for traveling yet failing to own up to the bills. The investigation report notes that hotel bills are accumulating with some hotels now only accepting Mr. Dolan as guest if there is a deposit paid in advance. Bronte Hotel in Harare and Musketeers in Bulawayo are cited as some of these hotels. Apart from the extensive traveling, Mr Dolan is said to have been involved in ‘reckless trading’ that include engaging new creditor liabilities despite the company’s inability to pay the new appointees, undervaluing asset sale transactions to benefit related parties at the expense of creditors, and failing to own up to promises made to creditors. This has resulted in Forbes and Thompson losing credibility with its suppliers.
What led to Vubachikwe employees going on strike on that fateful day of 8 April 2022 was not because of their own greed but one can imagine a father spending so much time in the mine only to come home empty-handed. The over 800 employees have been reeling in poverty and yet working in an industry regarded as one of the country’s biggest foreign currency earners does not augur well with President Mnangagwa mantra of leaving no place and no one behind. The Forfar Forensic report notes that during the period of January 2023 to November 2023 workers at Vumbachikwe were receiving a stipend of US$ 100.00 and food hampers worth approximately US70.00, which were only given to the 107 essential services employees. Despite coming up with such a fuzzy selection criterion, the company failed to own up to the stipend.
Mr Dolan as the major shareholder, is being accused of embarking on cash-demanding Exclusive Prospecting Order (EPOs) soil sampling project, which has no bearing to the operations of Forbes and Thompson/Duration Group operations. The EPOs are said to be personally owned by Mr. Dolan and instead of funding from his personal coffers he is diverting cash generated by other subsidiaries such as Met Solutions. As a result, even Met Solutions have been struggling to pay their employee salaries and wage bill. According to the Forensic report, Duration Gold has failed to allocate funding to the Vubachikwe human disaster but instead funded the purchasing of camping equipment and paying samplers engaged on the EPOs project.

Apart from the employee salaries, other creditors in the queue include the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA), Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA), and ZINWA. By November 2023, ZESA was being owed US$1 116 000.00, and the money was accumulating at approximately US$60 000.00 per month. The Forensic report indicates that an audit was done into Forbes and Thompson ZIMRA non-compliance and issues of tax evasion that includes, nonpayment and/or inaccurate payment of Pay As You Earn (PAYE) and nonpayment of withholding tax. ZIMRA issued an assessment to the value of US$2 671 6658.00 withholding tax accrued but not remitted. Such action is not only at the detriment of employees and staff of Forbes and Thompson but also to the National fiscus. In simple terms, Forbes and Thompson (Pvt) Ltd has not been conforming to the legislative requirements expected in the country.
With all these findings, one would wonder if the idea of reopening Vubachikwe mine is not just a dummy sold to quiet the creditors. Mr. Dolan has pilling hotel bills, employee salaries dating back to 2022, and a train of other service providers waiting for their pay day. Despite all these pending responsibilities, he goes on to have soil sampling projects that are not benefiting the overall company but an individual. Vubachikwe was one of the biggest mining companies in Matabeleland South and its coming back online would create job opportunities for the community, contribute to the province’s gold output and the national gross domestic product. Alas, this may just be another fallacy.

Sikhala Snubs Chamisa

By Political Reporter – In a surprising move, former Zengeza West MP Job Sikhala neglected to mention his longtime comrade and former Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa, in his expressions of gratitude for those who supported him during his imprisonment.

The notable omission occurred during Sikhala’s press conference in Harare, where he not only distanced himself from the CCC but also unveiled his ambitious new political initiative, showcasing remarkable courage against the oppressive Zanu PF government.

Sikhala Announces A People’s Army

By Political Reporter – Opposition politician and Former Zengeza West MP Job Sikhala has sent shock waves to the ruling Zanu PF party and threatened to mobilise against the regime.

The vibrant politician decisively parted ways with the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) Thursday and unveiled his ambitious new political initiative, showcasing unwavering bravery in the face of the brutal Zanu PF government.

Sikhala, characterising the CCC as a “carcass,” declared his departure during a press conference in Harare on Thursday, boldly asserting that relying on CCC as the catalyst for democratic change in Zimbabwe was futile.

Emphasising the importance of a people-driven movement, Sikhala stated:
“The mass democratic struggle is people-driven and owned. Every struggle waged throughout the world has succeeded when people own it. The masses must own the next decisive stage of our struggle. Whether I will be there with you or not, as my enemies have not shelved their plan to assassinate me for reasons known only to themselves, this process must proceed uninhibited to finality. With or without resources, the people shall carry out this most important task in the decisive phase of our history and our people’s struggle against tyranny for their freedom, dignity, and prosperity.”

In a courageous move, Sikhala extended his well wishes to those choosing to remain with the CCC carcass, recognising their democratic right while highlighting the urgency of the people taking charge of the forthcoming critical phase in Zimbabwe’s struggle against tyranny.

Sikhala’s announcement follows closely on the heels of CCC’s founding leader Nelson Chamisa’s departure, who cited ZANU PF infiltration as the reason for his exit just two weeks ago.

Sikhala, recently released after spending an astonishing 595 days in pre-trial detention on charges of inciting public violence, faces another legal battle.

On Wednesday, he was convicted by Harare Magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka for publishing falsehoods prejudicial to the state.

The court is set to deliver its sentence on 16 February, adding another layer of adversity to Sikhala’s ongoing commitment to Zimbabwe’s democratic evolution.

Former 2023 CCC Mashonaland East Parliamentary Candidates Express Solidarity with President Chamisa

9th February 2024

Murewa, Mashonaland East Parliamentary candidates from Mashonaland East who contested in the 2023 elections under the former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party, led by President Nelson Chamisa, convened in Murewa yesterday to reaffirm their steadfast support for President Chamisa.

The gathering in Murewa was prompted by concerns over the alleged infiltration of the CCC party by ZANU-PF, facilitated by the manipulation of their proxies, including Sengezo Tshabangu, who falsely claimed the position of Secretary General, alongside vice presidents Tendai Biti and Professor Welshman Ncube.Advocate Willard Madzimbamuto, representing all the parliamentary candidates from the 2023 elections, presented the following resolutions:To stand firmly behind Advocate Nelson Chamisa.

To disassociate themselves entirely from any association with the CCC party, effective immediately.

In an interview with Change Radio, Advocate Madzimbamuto emphasized the unwavering confidence of all 23 constituencies in Mashonaland East in the capable leadership of President Chamisa.

In the harmonized elections on 23rd August 2023 in Mashonaland East, a region traditionally aligned with ZANU-PF, the CCC, under former President Chamisa, secured four out of 23 available seats.

However, subsequent recalls initiated by Tshabangu et al led to the removal of two CCC parliamentarians, Advocate Madzimbamuto from the Seke constituency and Chagwiza from Goromonzi South.

Consequently, these vacant seats were reclaimed by ZANU-PF, suggesting indirect support from Tshabangu, Biti, and Ncube for ZANU-PF’s electoral success.CCC clinched victories in Seke, Marondera Central, Ruwa, and Goromonzi South.

Particularly noteworthy were CCC’s wins in the rural constituencies of Seke (encompassing six rural wards, two wards in newly resettled farming areas, and three wards in peri-urban zones) and Goromonzi South rural constituency, marking significant achievements for President Chamisa’s CCC.

In the Seke constituency’s 2023 harmonized elections, Advocate Willard Madzimbamuto of CCC secured victory with 14,032 votes, surpassing ZANU-PF’s Munyaradzi Kashambe who garnered 13,277 votes.

However, ZANU-PF reclaimed the Seke constituency seat in a subsequent by-election, with Munyaradzi Tobias Kashambe emerging victorious with 8,586 votes, while the CCC candidate, Everisto Chisi, secured 669 votes, and independent candidate Willard Madzimbamuto obtained 2,401 votes.

Similarly, in 2023, President Chamisa’s CCC won the parliamentary seat in Goromonzi South, with CCC’s Stephen Chagwiza clinching victory after securing 16,312 votes, defeating ZANU-PF’s Tinashe Chikonye who obtained 15,216 votes.

However, ZANU-PF reclaimed the Goromonzi South seat following the recall of the hardworking and popular Chagwiza by Tshabangu and his associates.

Chagwiza was barred from contesting the subsequent by-election by the High Court, resulting in ZANU-PF’s candidate, Washington Zhanda, winning with 6,865 votes, while CCC’s Tshabangu candidate, Rueben Chikudo, received 1,067 votes.

Furthermore, Tshabangu and his allies recalled three CCC Marondera district wards, leading to ZANU-PF’s victory in these contested wards during the by-elections held on 3rd February 2024, namely wards 5, 8, and 10.

Minister Tatenda Mavetera: Rising Star or Flickering Light?

Sikhala Is My Man – Tshabangu

By A Correspondent

Sengezo Tshabangu, the self-proclaimed interim Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has asserted that he played a pivotal role in facilitating the release of Job Sikhala from incarceration.

In a bold declaration made on X, Tshabangu, known for his controversial actions including the recall of elected CCC MPs and councillors, underscored his alleged contribution to Job Sikhala’s freedom, attributing it to his political maneuvering.

Tshabangu asserted, “For clarity’s sake, I wish to let the world know that I personally negotiated for Job Sikhala’s release from prison because he was a political prisoner.

His release required a political solution, similar to Tendai Biti’s case in 2008 when he faced charges of treason. He’s my man.”

This statement by Tshabangu comes amidst a backdrop of heightened political tensions and power struggles within the CCC, with Advocate Nelson Chamisa’s leadership being challenged by individuals like Tshabangu.

Job Sikhala, a prominent figure within the opposition circles in Zimbabwe, was detained under contentious circumstances, garnering significant attention from both local and international observers.

Tshabangu’s assertion of involvement in Sikhala’s release adds a new layer to the complex dynamics within Zimbabwean politics.

However, Tshabangu’s claim has sparked skepticism and controversy among various quarters, with some questioning the authenticity of his role in Sikhala’s release and others viewing it as a strategic move to bolster his own political standing within the CCC.

As the political landscape in Zimbabwe continues to evolve, Tshabangu’s assertion serves as a reminder of the intricacies and machinations at play within the country’s opposition movements, highlighting the importance of transparency and accountability in political processes.

Sikhala Severs Ties With Contaminated CCC

Former political detainee Job Sikhala has severed ties with the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), likening the opposition group to a lifeless entity, and has established his own political movement.

Sikhala, recently released from incarceration, had remained silent regarding his future political endeavors following the disintegration of the CCC subsequent to Nelson Chamisa’s resignation.

Speaking to the press on Thursday in Harare, Sikhala unveiled his new political initiative, emphasizing its inclusive nature with involvement from civil society, students, and religious institutions.

“We’re not merely announcing the formation of a political entity but rather a wide-ranging mass democratic movement that welcomes all in the advancement of the mass democratic struggle, reminiscent of the United Democratic Front (UDF) of 1980s apartheid South Africa,” Sikhala declared.

“This endeavor is inspired by the noble principles upheld by countless Zimbabweans who sacrificed during the liberation struggle, Gukurahundi, and those who have perished since the revival of the goals and aspirations of the mass democratic struggle in February 1999.”

Sikhala joins a growing list of prominent figures exiting the CCC amid allegations of infiltration and internal discord.

While another faction within the party had proposed a leadership role for Sikhala as deputy chairman, he opted to forge ahead with his own movement, aiming to rectify the flaws of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) since its inception in 1999.

“The flaw in our 1999 approach was the top-heavy nature of constituent body meetings, with only the ZCTU possessing grassroots structures. This imbalance in participation from the grassroots to the national leadership level eventually led to conflicts of interest. Zimbabwe requires a forward-looking approach to address the national dilemma,” Sikhala reflected.

“The roadmap for progress will be charted by the people through a Mass Nationwide Democratic Consultative Process. This national consultation will entail Nationwide Democratic Consultative Conventions.

“Crucially, this consultative process will engage all vital constituent bodies, including the general populace, labor unions, students, traditional leaders, religious groups, civil society organizations, business figures, professionals, residents’ associations, informal traders, women’s groups, farmers, youth organizations, progressive political entities, war veterans, artists, corporate sector representatives, and individuals with disabilities,” Sikhala affirmed.

Cabinet’s Move To Abolish Death Penalty Marks Progress: Amnesty International

Responding to a move by Zimbabwe’s cabinet to back abolition of the death penalty, Amnesty International’s Deputy Regional Director for East and Southern Africa, Khanyo Farise, said:

“Zimbabwe has taken the right step towards ending this abhorrent and inhuman form of punishment that has no place in our world.

“Now that the cabinet has given its nod, Parliament must ensure the death penalty is truly abolished by voting to pass legislation that will make this a reality.”

Amnesty International opposes the death penalty in all cases without exception because it violates the right to life as proclaimed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Zimbabwe carried out its last execution in 2005 but death sentences have continued to be imposed. At independence, there were nine crimes punishable by death under Zimbabwean law.

Offenders can currently be sentenced to death for three offences, namely treason; where the act of insurgency, banditry, sabotage or terrorism results in the death of a person; for murder and for attempted murder or incitement or conspiracy to commit murder.

SIKHALA vs CHAMISA, WHO’S THE REAL NELSON?

Jah Prayzah Drills Borehole For Chikurubi Inmates

In his continued acts of benevolence to the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS), contemporary musician Mukudzeyi Mukombe, famously known as Jah Prayzah, yesterday drilled a borehole for Chikurubi Prison Complex.

Present at the groundbreaking ceremony was Deputy Commissioner-General Manetswa C Manhivi responsible for Operations and the Deputy Officer Commanding Harare Metropolitan Province, Assistant Commissioner George Mutimbanyoka.

The borehole is expected to bring an end to the erratic water supplies that inmates and officers within Chikurubi Prison Complex have been experiencing.

Jah Prayzah has been working with the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) on a number of projects. The lead member of the band Third Generation has a program in which he scouts for talent amongst inmates and records their music at his JP Studios free-of-charge.

Posting on Twitter, Jah Prayzah had this to say about his act of generosity:

“In a heartfelt commitment to bettering the lives of those within Chikurubi Maximum Prison, I’ve embarked on a transformative journey, leading to the installation of a borehole to address the water needs of the inmates. I presented this borehole to The DCG who was representing the Commissioner General ZPCS. In the past year we have been working closely with Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Services and have also embarked on projects that highlight on the consequences of crime and fostering rehabilitation. One such project to note is Mhosva which is hosted by (Dual Sim). It’s a step towards not just quenching physical thirst but nurturing hope and humanity within the prison walls.”

The musician also has a media company that is currently producing Mhosva, a television production that seeks to reconcile the offender and the offended in preparation for reintegration of the offender into society upon completion of their sentence.

Affair With Married Man Turns Violent

A shocking incident unfolded at Tshapho business center in Matopo, Matabeleland South province, as a confrontation between two women over an alleged affair with a married man turned violent, leaving one woman injured and traumatized.

Sanelisiwe Ncube, a 33-year-old resident of Domboshava village, found herself at the center of a public spectacle when Siduduzile Ndlovu, 37, confronted her at the bar on December 3 last year. Accusations of infidelity quickly escalated into a heated altercation, with tempers flaring.

According to witnesses, as Ncube attempted to de-escalate the situation by excusing herself to the restroom, Ndlovu pursued her and launched a vicious attack. Armed with a knife, Ndlovu stabbed Ncube twice in the buttocks and once in the thigh, causing her to collapse in agony and scream for help.

Following the brutal assault, Ndlovu fled the scene, leaving Ncube bleeding profusely on the ground. Concerned bystanders rushed Ncube to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention, where she underwent treatment for her injuries.

Subsequently, Ndlovu was apprehended and appeared before Kezi magistrate Busani Sibanda, where she pleaded guilty to assault charges. The magistrate, taking into account the severity of the offense and the use of a dangerous weapon, sentenced Ndlovu to 18 months imprisonment. However, he suspended eight months of the sentence on the condition of good behavior for five years, with the remaining 10 months suspended on the condition of 350 hours of community service at White Water Primary School.

In her mitigation plea, Ndlovu cited her responsibility as a mother of four minor children and her meager income from fetching water for community members. Meanwhile, Ncube expressed the physical and emotional toll of the attack in a victim impact statement, detailing her struggles with sitting, sleeping, and performing daily chores, as well as the financial burden of medical expenses.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of unchecked jealousy and violence, underscoring the need for peaceful conflict resolution and respect for the rule of law. As Ncube continues to recover from her injuries, authorities hope that justice served will deter similar acts of aggression in the future.- B Metro

Trio Murders Colleague Over Cellphone Theft Allegations

Police in Inyathi have arrested three suspected murderers for allegedly assaulting and murdering a colleague over allegations of cellphone theft.

The trio suspects; Kulekani Nyathi (25), Nkanyido Tshuma (26) and Bukhosi Mgucini all from Inyathi are held in Police custody pending further investigations.

Circumstances are that on February 04 and at around 2000 hours, the seven suspects were drinking beer at the farmhouse shop together with the now deceased Fight Phiri who is aged 27.

The suspects started accusing the now deceased of stealing an Itel cell phone belonging to Hapyson Ncube who is the shopkeeper at that place.

A misunderstanding arose between the two parties prompting one of the suspects to assault the now-deceased Phiri once on the face using open hands.

The now deceased person got outside the shop and ran with his life with two suspects giving a chase towards the bush whilst the other five suspects were following behind.

The other suspect who was following a chase found the now deceased person crying, lying on the ground facing upwards bleeding from the forehead and pleading for mercy to the two suspects who were standing on top of him.

7,500 New Cancer Cases Annually

As Zimbabwe observes World Cancer Day, recent statistics from the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe (CAZ) paint a grim picture of the nation’s battle against cancer. With over 7,500 new cases and 2,500 deaths annually, cancer has emerged as a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the country.

According to CAZ, the most prevalent cancers among Zimbabweans include cervix uteri, prostate, breast, non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), oesophagus, Kaposi sarcoma (KS), colo-rectal, stomach, and liver cancers. Despite the availability of treatment options, a staggering 80 percent of cancer cases are reported late, significantly reducing the chances of successful treatment and increasing the financial burden on patients and families.

Mr. Lovemore Makurirofa, CAZ’s information, research, and evaluation officer, emphasized the importance of prevention, early detection, treatment, and care in the fight against cancer. He underscored the need for public awareness and education to dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding the disease, which often act as barriers to timely diagnosis and treatment.

Decentralization of cervical cancer screening services, spearheaded by the government and its partners with over 100 facilities nationwide, is cited as a crucial strategy in addressing the prevalence of the disease. However, Mr. Makurirofa cautioned against unproven alternative treatments, urging cancer patients to seek advice from accredited medical practitioners.

As Zimbabweans join the global community in commemorating World Cancer Day under the theme “Close the care gap,” the call for action becomes more urgent. Efforts to improve access to screening, diagnosis, and treatment services must be intensified to reverse the rising tide of cancer-related morbidity and mortality in the country.

The collective commitment of government agencies, healthcare providers, civil society organizations, and individuals is paramount in confronting this public health challenge and ensuring that every Zimbabwean has access to quality cancer care. As the nation reflects on World Cancer Day, the message is clear: early detection saves lives, and together, we can close the care gap and combat cancer effectively.

Violence Breaks Out Between Priest And Parents

Tensions reached a boiling point at St Faith’s High School in Manicaland on Wednesday as a dispute over the enforcement of a US$600 mission fund erupted into chaos. The Anglican Diocese of Manicaland, which oversees the school, had hired armed security guards to block entry to the school premises until the payment was made, leading to a confrontation with enraged parents and community members.

Videos capturing the tumultuous scenes quickly went viral on social media, showing a clergy member, identified as Mavhezha, engaging in physical altercations with protestors. The situation escalated when Mavhezha allegedly assaulted a village head, prompting intervention from the agitated crowd. Despite being restrained by bystanders, Mavhezha reportedly continued to threaten and physically harm protestors, including a physically challenged man.

Authorities, including the Manicaland Provincial Police, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing. The clash underscores a longstanding dispute between the school’s stakeholders and the Anglican Diocese over the imposition of the mission fund, which has been vehemently opposed since its introduction in 2021.

The Anglican Diocese of Manicaland has remained steadfast in its insistence on monetizing access to its top-performing mission schools, including St Faith’s High School. However, stakeholders, including government officials and members of the local community, argue that the imposition of such a hefty fee exacerbates social inequality and unfairly targets less affluent families.

This latest altercation follows a similar incident last month, during which the school faced overcrowding issues due to parallel enrollment exercises conducted by the diocese. Despite a pending High Court application challenging the legitimacy of the mission fund, tensions continue to escalate as parents and community members demand accountability and transparency from the diocese.

In response to inquiries, Manicaland Provincial Education Director, Mr. Edward Shumba, assured that normalcy has been restored at the school following police intervention. However, concerns persist regarding the long-term implications of the ongoing dispute on the welfare and educational opportunities of students at St Faith’s High School.

Efforts to reach representatives from the Anglican Diocese of Manicaland for comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting. Meanwhile, community members, such as Mr. Chad Ruwende, continue to voice their opposition to what they perceive as greed and profiteering within the church hierarchy.

As the standoff at St Faith’s High School continues, the broader implications of the mission fund dispute on access to education and social justice remain at the forefront of public discourse, highlighting the need for a swift and equitable resolution to the ongoing crisis.- state media

The match was filled with suspense and drama, with Nigeria initially leading 1-0 and seeming to score a second goal, only for VAR to intervene and award South Africa a penalty.

Teboho Mokoena converted the penalty, sending the game into extra time, but Nigeria ultimately emerged victorious in the penalty shootout.

Led by Bobo Nwabali’s two crucial saves, Nigeria prevailed 4-2 on penalties, booking their place in the AFCON final where they will clash with Ivory Coast.

Despite Nigeria’s early dominance in territory, they encountered difficulty breaking down South Africa’s solid defense.

Meanwhile, South Africa exploited space behind Nigeria’s defense, posing a constant threat.

The first half concluded without any goals, but Nigeria surged ahead in the second half, with captain William Troost-Ekong converting from the penalty spot.

However, their joy was short-lived as VAR nullified Victor Osimhen’s apparent goal due to a foul by Alhassan Yusuf, leading to Mokoena’s equalizing penalty in the dying minutes.

Extra time saw both teams pushing for a decisive goal, yet neither could find the breakthrough.

Despite a missed penalty by Ola Aina for Nigeria, South Africa faltered with misses from Mokoena, Evidence Makgopa, and Mothobi Mvala, propelling the Super Eagles into the final.

At the heart of our endeavor lies the urgent need for a moral revolution,” Chamisa declared, emphasizing the importance of fostering a culture of respect, love for neighbors, and the protection of the vulnerable, particularly children vulnerable to abuse and exploitation.

Chamisa unequivocally denounced practices such as child marriages and underscored the imperative of driving out hate and selfishness from the fabric of society.

Championing a paradigm shift in professional ethics, Chamisa urged prioritizing the needs of clients across all professions and advocated for the establishment of mutual respect between civil service professionals and citizens.

“We must be a society with standards,” Chamisa asserted, signaling a departure from the status quo and a commitment to effecting tangible change.

However, Chamisa stressed that achieving meaningful change requires collective effort and intentional action.

“Change takes everyone to play their part,” he emphasized, highlighting the necessity of individual and collective agency in driving societal transformation.

Drawing a distinction between superficial changes and substantive shifts in mindset, Chamisa underscored the importance of addressing “soft issues” and effecting a holistic transformation from within.

Senior Zanu PF Official Dies

By A Correspondent

The political landscape of Zimbabwe is in mourning following the sudden and tragic demise of Sanders Magwizi, a prominent figure within the Zanu PF ranks.

Magwizi, a stalwart of the party and a towering figure in Chivi District, collapsed and passed away on Tuesday.

Described by party officials as a “mighty Iroko tree” whose fall leaves a profound void, Magwizi’s impact on the political landscape of Zimbabwe cannot be overstated.

As the longest-serving councillor in the nation since independence, his contributions have left an indelible mark on the
fabric of Zimbabwean governance.

Magwizi’s sudden collapse at his Mashava home sent shockwaves through the community, culminating in his untimely demise at a private hospital in Masvingo.

His passing has not only elicited sorrow but has also prompted reflections on his unparalleled dedication to public service and mentorship.

Former Chivi South MP, Killer Zivhu, paid tribute to Magwizi, hailing him as a mentor and father figure.

Zivhu’s sentiments underscore the profound impact Magwizi had on those around him, transcending political divides to foster a sense of camaraderie and mentorship within the party.

However, amidst the tributes and reflections on Magwizi’s legacy, controversy has emerged surrounding remarks made by Zivhu regarding the tenure of Zanu PF leader, Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Zivhu’s call for a third term for Mnangagwa has ignited debate within political circles, with some questioning the implications of extending executive authority in the absence of a viable opposition.

Zivhu’s assertion underscores the complexities of Zimbabwean politics, where notions of continuity clash with principles of democratic governance.

The absence of a robust opposition further complicates the discourse, raising questions about the balance of power and the democratic process in Zimbabwe.

As the nation mourns the loss of Sanders Magwizi, his passing serves as a reminder of the enduring legacy of public service and the intricate dynamics of Zimbabwean politics.

Nigeria Clinch Africa Cup of Nations Final Berth in Thrilling Penalty Shoot-out

Sports Correspondent

In a nail-biting encounter, Nigeria secured their spot in the Africa Cup of Nations final after a gripping penalty shoot-out triumph against South Africa on Wednesday.

Job Sikhala’s Speech Thanks Everyone Else, Lawyers, Civic Society, Except Nelson Chamisa

Thursday 08 February 2024

Delivered at SAPES TRUST

For nearly two years, since the 14thof June 2022 to January 30, 2024, I was a subject of repression and kept in prison, being denied bail. I took the challenge in the stride, taking it as we go. When you are under attack, I learnt not to panic but repel everything thrown at you and use it to sustain oneself
against all adversities. I am hardened ladies and gentlemen. There is nothing that would be thrown at me that will either shake or frighten me.

In reflection, when I came out, I issued the following thanksgiving statement.

https://x.com/zimeye/status/1755698869856313477?s=46

“For nearly two years, I suffered in my oppressor’s dungeon.

You prayed for
me to be released from the jaws of my tormentors. You clamored loudly for
my release as you knew that I was innocent. You stood with my family. I am
crying as I type this statement. Your love strengthened me throughout. I
deeply understand the pain and agony we shared together during the period
of my unmitigated oppression but let me reassure all of you that;

I am prepared to pay any price for the love of my country,

I am prepared to pay any price for the love of Zimbabwe,

I am prepared to pay any price in defense of democracy, freedom and the
happiness of our people.

To all Zimbabweans in the country and the diaspora, I thank you.

Let me thank all progressive organizations in politics, in the media, civic society, student bodies, professionals, members of parliament both
domestically and internationally for ceaseless condemning the tyrannical
persecutions perpetrated upon me by my enemies.

Let me also thank members of the Diplomatic Corp from world democracies
and Africa whose solidarity was priceless.

I also want to thank the World Governments who remained alert to what was transpiring on my persecution.

To the Free Job Sikhala Solidarity Movement, you were the missing link in
Zimbabwe’s political equation. To my lawyers, words alone are insufficient to
express my gratitude. To Mai Sikhala and family, thank you very much for your love.

With all my love, may the Almighty God bless all of you.
If I omitted or overlooked to thank others who devoted their time, energy and
emotions for my freedom, my sincere apologies. I sincerely thank you. The
new democratic culture which we will ever strive to achieve, even if it means
with our own blood, does not absolve me from criticism on omissions which I
could have done. This is the cornerstone of the democratic struggle we have
been engaging in, and which we desire to build in Zimbabwe.

It is sad that for the past two years when I was in prison, things have turned for the worse. I still found people in abject poverty, struggling for a meal a day, shrinking democratic space, entrenched dictatorship, fear and
hopelessness of the direction the country is going. Elections came and went
when I was in prison, amid an extreme toxic political environment, and the clamor for economic and electoral reforms. Before going further, any form of
electoral process in our country under the same usual conditions and without
the necessary reforms to deliver the will of the people, has been a challenge
confronting us as Zimbabwe since the emergency of the mass democratic
struggle in our Country. This is the center of the democratic struggle for any
future political trajectory in Zimbabwe. The call for reforms shall be the forte
of our struggle and shall position and give the people of Zimbabwe a golden
chance to choose leaders of their own choice. The question to ask is whether
the mass democratic struggle is going to achieve a different result from our
experiences of the past? What is the strategy? I will come to this subject at
the later stage.

What is currently happening in the opposition is not uncommon. It is the
common political strategy that has happened and implemented by despots
throughout the world down the centuries. Mobutu Sese Seko used the same
strategy of distributing patronage and buying of individuals in opposition
ranks to destroy and disorganize it by exploiting the discovered weaknesses
in the opposition superstructure. During the mass democratic revolt against
imperialism and colonialism in our own country, the Rhodesian kingpin, Ian
Douglas Smith implemented the strategy with perfection to the extent of
delivering an internal settlement. Series of Apartheid leaders applied the same
strategy and tactics and ended up establishing homelands which purportedly
gave a façade of independence to black self-governed enclaves. Dear
Zimbabweans and worldwide friends, Zimbabwe is at the crossroads.
Coming back to the question of whether the mass democratic struggle in our
nation is going to achieve a different result from our experiences of the past?

Yes, it will be. Yes, it will be. How? Our seemingly unsurmountable struggle for freedom and emancipation needs everyone on board, whether black, white
or yellow. It is our challenge together. Our struggle should not be restricted
by narrowness, lack of initiative and hesitation. The question on what to do next is answered by the authors and originators of the mass democratic
struggle in Zimbabwe who are the people who, in February 1999, spoke through the People’s Working Convention, where all constituents bodies were
represented. The People’s Working Convention was an affirmation to Martin
Luther King Jnr’s proclamation that:

“There comes a time when people get tired of being trampled over by the
iron feet of oppression. There comes a time when people get tired of
being flunk across the abyss of humiliation where they experience the bleakness of nagging despair.”

The weakness of our 1999 approach was that the meeting of the constituent
bodies was heavy at the top with only the ZCTU having grassroots structures.
It was the meeting of constituent bodies at the national leadership level with
less participation from the shopfloor and village level which eventually led to the clash of egos. Zimbabwe needs a way forward to answer the national
question, of whereto from here. The way forward on what should be done from
here will come from the people through a Mass Nationwide Democratic
Consultative Process. The national consultative process will convene
Nationwide Democratic Consultative Conventions. The Consultative process
will involve all important constituent bodies, that is, the general masses of
our people, labor, students, traditional leaders, churches, civic society,
businesspersons, professionals, residents’ associations, informal traders,
women clubs, farmers, peasants, youth organizations, progressive political
organizations, war veterans, war collaborators, artists, corporate business
sector, and people living with disabilities.

It will start from the village, to the
ward, district and the provincial level. This process will be conducted by the
representatives of different constituent bodies at every level.

The process will
eventually lead to the convening of the National People’s Democratic
Convention. The input and ideas that will come from the people will be
collated and coalesced by the National Democratic Taskforce made up of
seconded persons from different constituent bodies who will be the conveners
of the National Democratic Peoples Convention. Each ward, in this process,
shall elect a delegate to attend the National People’s Democratic Convention
which will debate the views collated and coalesced during the Democratic
Consultative Conventions held at the shopfloor and grassroots level
throughout the country. This will be our guide to the future.

Critics are pointing out that some constituent bodies have been hijacked by
ZANU PF like what they have done to the CCC. Let me give you as an example,
bodies such as ZCTU, or any other constituent body do not mean persons at
leadership level. ZCTU is the worker who is at the shopfloor level. It is not its
leadership. There is no ward, district or province without a student, a worker
or a church elder.

Those are the ones that will constitute the Democratic
Consultative Convention.

Therefore, there will be no one left without being
consulted from Malipati to Matusadonha, from Kotwa to Manama, from
Sipepa to Muzarabani. We are embodied by the declaration of Nelson Mandela
that;
“Action without vision is only passing time, vision without action
is merely daydreaming, but vision with action can change the world.”

We are not here to pronounce the emergence of a political organization but a
broad-based mass democratic movement for everyone in advancement of the
mass democratic struggle in the fashion of the United Democratic Front (UDF)
of the 1980s in apartheid South Africa. This is motivated in remembrance of
the great ideals held by many Zimbabweans who perished during the period
of the liberation struggle, Gukurahundi and those who died since the
resuscitation of the goals and aspirations of the mass democratic struggle in
February 1999.

Dala Costa had this message for all the leaders,
“Do not promise what you cannot deliver, do not misrepresent, do not
hide behind spin doctored evasions, do not suppress obligations, do not
evade accountability, do not accept the survival of the fittest pressures”.

We promise that we will stand by our word and deliver in terms of our pact.

We are not men and women of empty threats. We are decisive in our
declarations.

The mass democratic struggle is people driven and owned.

Every struggle
waged throughout the world has succeeded when people own it.

The masses
must own the next decisive stage of our struggle. Whether I will be there with
you or not, as my enemies have not shelved their plan to assassinate me for
the sins best known to themselves, this process must proceed uninhibited to
finality.

With or without resources, the people shall carry out this most important task
in the decisive phase of our history and our people’s struggle against tyranny
for their freedom, dignity and prosperity.

To all those who have returned their democratic right to cling to the CCC carcass, I wish them all the best in their
project.

We pray to the God of David to give us strength not to be shaken by the antics
of our enemies and to bless the fruits of our labour and efforts.

I thank you all.

Sikhala Sends Shock Waves To Mnangagwa And How Powerful?

The first trip targets Zimbabweans living in the United States and Canada but would be live-streamed to benefit other Zimbabweans and interested international investors “who want to grow the money with WestProp”.

Mr Sharpe says that” road trips are part of marketing destination Zimbabwe and to showcase the “huge investment opportunities that exist locally”.

WestProp Holdings board chair, Dr Michael Louis, gave a hint last year when he committed to marketing the real estate and other business opportunities that abound in Zimbabwe.

Thousands At Chamisa Project Harare Meeting

By Political Reporter – Thousands of people flocked to a meeting in Harare on Thursday organized by Nelson Chamisa’s dedicated team, signalling widespread support for his upcoming political venture.

Gift Ostallos Siziba, a prominent figure in Chamisa’s inner circle and a key organizer of the meetings shared captivating images on his social media platforms, showcasing the massive turnout in the heart of Harare.

The pictures depict an assembly of hundreds of thousands of individuals, underscoring the significance of Chamisa’s political influence.

Siziba, who recently led Chamisa’s team in Manicaland for a similar project, addressed supporters in Mutare last week, outlining their plans.

He articulated a vision for transformation, stating, “The struggle (for freedom) has taken long because of power-hungry individuals.

He highlighted Chamisa’s decision to centralize power within his office ahead of the 2023 elections, dissolving CCC structures in the process.

Chamisa, advocating for a political movement rather than a traditional party, aims to draw on insights from various political entities, including ZANU PF, to challenge the ruling party effectively.

Despite skepticism surrounding Chamisa’s chances, Siziba acknowledged the arduous nature of the struggle, urging critics to delve into history, understand the challenges faced, and emphasize the need for persistence until victory is achieved.

sector, and people living with disabilities.

We are embodied by the declaration of Nelson Mandela
that;
“Action without vision is only passing time, vision without action
is merely daydreaming, but vision with action can change the world.”

Iheanacho’s Heroics Secure Victory for Nigeria in Thrilling Clash with South Africa

Sports Correspondent

Nigeria secured a 4-2 penalty shootout triumph over South Africa in a captivating Africa Cup of Nations semi-final showdown in Bouake, thanks to substitute Kelechi Iheanacho’s decisive goal. The match ended in a 1-1 draw after extra time, with both regular-time goals coming from penalties.

Nigeria’s captain, William Troost-Ekong, broke the deadlock after 67 minutes, only for Teboho Mokoena to level the score from the spot in the 90th minute.

The drama intensified when Nigeria thought they had secured a second goal through Victor Osimhen, only for VAR to intervene, awarding South Africa a penalty after Percy Tau was fouled in the box.

Despite chances for both sides, including a missed opportunity for South Africa’s Khuliso Mudau, who blazed over in added time, the deadlock couldn’t be broken, leading to a tense penalty shootout.

Grant Kekana’s red card in the 115th minute further shifted momentum in Nigeria’s favor, as South Africa finished the match with 10 men.

Nigeria, with a flawless record against South Africa in the Africa Cup of Nations, now advances to the final, where they will face the winner of the Ivory Coast vs. Democratic Republic of Congo match.

Jose Peseiro’s side, buoyed by the return of Osimhen from injury, showcased resilience and determination throughout the match, overcoming challenges to emerge victorious.

Both teams displayed a spirited performance, with South Africa matching Nigeria’s attacking prowess, but ultimately it was Iheanacho’s decisive strike that sealed Nigeria’s place in the final.

Linda Masarira Blasts “Insincere” Gvt Over Land Issue

By Linda Masarira

The constitution of Zimbabwe is the Supreme Law of this land. Section 44 enshrines the obligation of the state, every person, including juristic persons and every institution, including agencies of government at every level to respect, protect, promote and fulfil the duty to respect fundamental human rights and freedoms.

Governments directive for Zimbabweans settled on so called illegal land is a violation to section 28 of the constitution of Zimbabwe which expressly states that the state and all agencies of government should ensure that every Zimbabwean has access to adequate shelter.

The government has never been sincere about housing and land allocation for the past twenty years. Native Zimbabweans are living like foreigners in their own country as access to land for farming or residential stands is now a preserve of the elite or @ZANUPF_Official card carrying members. These people who are being ordered to vacate their homes, where are they expected to go? Has the government made provisions for them to get alternative accommodation? What are the plans to compensate development done on the land?

President @edmnangagwa
administration should stop the habit of just making sporadic, inhumane decisions that affect livelihoods and people’s right to personal security as well. In the video below, Minister Chadzamira speaks of illegal parcelled of land, who was parcelling the land? In rural areas masabhuku nemadzimambo and all these are Zanupf patriots, in urban areas, we have the land barons who are predominantly zanupf supporters and in farming communities those selling land are those who got offer letters with no capacity to farm.

Before causing so much pain, suffering and homelessness of hundreds and thousands of Zimbabweans, I propose an extension for the eviction of the people who have been told to vacate the land were they are dwelling until they receive restitution or are compensated. We are all Zimbabwean and should not continue to use archaic laws left behind by the Smith regime to make our own suffer. Some of these laws should just be eradicated and every Zimbabwean should just be allocated land at their rural home to build a homestead. Nyika yeDzimbahwe inorema, inezvirehwa rehwa zvayo. Misodzi yevana veDzimbahwe yayerera yakwana. Vene ngavasiwe pamisha yavakavaka vagarewo zvakanaka savamwe.

No Zimbabwean should be homeless nor be rendered homeless because of the corrupt and unethical conduct of a few connected ones. Tangai masunga vakapa vanhu minda zvisiri pamutemo nemastands musati mambunyikidza kodzero dzemwana weDzimbahwe.

We will continue to fight for the vulnerable and voiceless until sanity prevails. Land belongs to the people and the President is the custodian and not the owner!

Zivhu Pushes For Third Mnangagwa Presidential Term

Job Sikhala Resigns From CCC, Announces Intention To Form New Movement

By Wezhira Munya

On February 8th, 2024, Advocate Job Sikhala made a significant announcement during a press conference held at the SAPES Trust Offices in Harare.

He officially resigned from Sengezo Tshabangu’s Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party and declared his intention to form a new political movement soon.Sikhala informed the nation that he will convene a National People’s Democratic Convention to chart the way forward soon.

During the press conference, Sikhala expressed his dissatisfaction with the direction of the CCC under the leadership of Vice Presidents Tendai Biti and Professor Welshman Ncube, and Secretary General Sengezo Tshabangu, stating that the CCC has been captured by ZANU PF.

The event was attended by a few notable figures such as former MDC National Chairperson Morgen Komichi, several ambassadors, and members of the media.

The question arises whether Komichi will join Sikhala’s new political party.Sikhala also revealed his plans to engage in consultations to establish a broad-based citizen movement, emphasizing the need for a democratic movement actively participating in Zimbabwean politics.

Furthermore, Sikhala stated his intention to hold a convention to formalize the formation of this new movement.Sikhala declined to take questions from journalists.

Dorothy Masuka, a commentator, expressed her belief that Sikhala’s new party would pave the way for him to become the next president.Speculations about Sikhala’s intention to create his own political party arose following his recent release from prison. Some people in Zimbabwe had already anticipated this move.

A political analyst pointed out that Sikhala’s political career received a boost through the MDC Alliance under the late President Morgan Tsvangirai.

It was within President Chamisa’s MDC Alliance that Sikhala became a member of parliament in 2018.

However, after the press conference, many of Sikhala’s former supporters distanced themselves from him, aligning themselves instead with President Chamisa and his party, signaling the end of their solidarity with Sikhala upon his release from prison.

An opposition parliamentarian who requested anonymity, and who had been actively involved in Sikhala’s court cases, prison visits, and fundraising efforts for Sikhala and his family, criticized Sikhala’s decision to form a new party, labeling it a serious political blunder.

The parliamentarian expressed a lack of support for Sikhala and predicted that only a few people would follow him.

The question remains whether Sikhala possesses the political capital necessary to challenge President Chamisa, ZANU PF, and other parties. Only time will reveal the answer.

As of now, President Chamisa enjoys widespread support from Zimbabwean citizens, and the launch of his highly anticipated political party is imminent

Vehicle Owners At Loggerheads With ZIMSEC Over Non-Payment Of November 2023 Services

Owners of vehicles hired to transport the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) 2023 examination papers are still to paid, five months after they rendered their services, it emerged this week.

The vehicles were hired through government’s Central Mechanical and Equipment Department (CMED) at a rate of US$152 per day, to deliver examination papers for Grade Seven, Ordinary and Advanced levels to various centres across Zimbabwe.

This was after Zimsec introduced a new exam delivery strategy to ensure the safety of question papers and curb leaking of examinations.

Zimsec has already released all the results for the 2023 academic year.

Vehicle owners, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said they rendered services for up to 30 days but were informed that CMED had not received the funds from Zimsec to pay them.

This is despite CMED having promised to pay for the services at the end of the examination sittings, according to a contract signed between the two parties, seen by NewsDay.

The amounts due, someclose to US$4 000, were to be paid in local currency at the prevailing interbank rate.

“CMED shall pay the hire fee in respect of the vehicle(s) either at the end of the programme or monthly into bank accounts supplied herein within a reasonable time frame. (A 30% withholding tax charge will be deducted from all payments due to the contractor unless a valid tax clearance certificate is availed).

“In the event that the service rendered by the contractor’s vehicle or driver is found to be unsatisfactory, CMED shall have the right to terminate the contract in whole or part in terms hereof,” read part of the contract.

Contacted for comment, Zimsec spokesperson Nicholette Dlamini said CMED received the funds and “would continue to receive the funds” as there was a continuous business partnership between the parastatals.

“How or who they pay after we have remitted is not under Zimsec’s purview. CMED and Zimsec are parastatals which are engaged in ongoing business partnerships.”

CMED spokesperson Tarisai Muzorori said Zimsec paid part of the service providers’ dues while some were yet to receive theirs.

“We have a solid working relationship with our support services and all our operations are done transparently. Every business agreement we enter into with our stakeholders is bound by a contractual agreement that we honour to the satisfaction of parties involved.

“We have a good working relationship with Zimsec and any other State enterprise through our reputable and unmatched quality service provision.

“CMED has received part payment for the service rendered to Zimsec. However, the money was disbursed to the support service providers in accordance to the portion received.”

Muzorori said they were engaging Zimsec regarding payment of the balance.

“We promise our support service providers to settle our obligation at the earliest possible time once we receive the final payment.”

Byo Army Colonel In Hot Soup For Ruining Police Sergeant’s Marriage

A Bulawayo army Colonel is in trouble for ruining a police Sergeant’s marriage and his own after nude images of the cop’s wife found in his mobile phone exposed a four-year sex relationship between the illegal couple.

According to court papers filed for damages by his wife, Sibongile, the disgraced army Colonel is named as Chance Mkhwananzi who has been having an illicit relationship with police Sergeant Masuku’s wife, Polite Moyo, who works as a supervisor at a city funeral parlour.

The relationship came to light after Sibongile discovered Polite’s nudes in her husband’s phone.

Sibongile has filed for adultery and is demanding US$10 000 in terms of damages.

“It is painful, cruel and heartless for a married woman to wreck another woman’s marriage,” Sibongile protested.

“Police has emotionally, psychologically and socially affected my life and that of my children.

“She sent her nude pictures to my husband and abuses my husband’s vehicles.

“Her behaviour and that of my husband are unbearable, inhuman and heartless, and that is why I decided to approach the courts for justice.”

Sergeant Masuku has also filed a formal complaint against the philandering senior soldier.

Strategic Ambiguity 2.0 As Chibaya, Ostallos Share Different Perspectives On Mutare Meeting

By Wilbert Mukori| “Amos Chibaya yesterday told NewsDay that a meeting held in Mutare over the weekend was not an inaugural mobilisation programme amid claims by some Chamisa loyalists that they were excluded from the meeting,” reported Bulawayo 24.

“Chibaya said he organised the Mutare caucus on behalf of CCC despite former party deputy national spokesperson and legislator Gift Siziba telling NewsDay that the meeting was a move towards the establishment of a new party.

“The meeting, however, attracted the wrath of some Chamisa’s loyalists who alleged that they were not informed of the meeting.

“Chibaya and Siziba addressed party supporters in Mutare during the weekend.”

Here we go, there is not only CCC factional fighting but even within the same faction there is fighting. How can Chibaya and Siziba have contradicting version of purpose of the meeting they both address!

MDC/CCC leaders proved they were corrupt and incompetent when the failed to implement even one token reform during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. The only reason why they have remained in public office is because we have an electorate who are dumb, thick and slow; they have no clue what the GNU was about and so all the evidence of corruption and incompetence was water off a duck’s back.

Now that the CCC factional war has been declared, there is no going back and they idiots will be at each other’s throat for months if not years to come. They don’t even know that in the confusion of the recalls Zanu PF is taking away the few gravy train seats they are fighting over! Zanu PF has 2/3 majority thanks to the recalls and soon will have an unassailable super majority!

God only knows what the regime will do with its super majority and all because Zimbabweans did not have the common sense to elect competent opposition who would implement the reforms even after MDC/CCC failed to implement even one token reform in 23 years!

Worse still, there is no sign that the penny has finally dropped in the wildebeest herd’s head. There is no sign the euphoric of Chamisa Chete Chete dying down!

What matters for the ordinary Zimbabwean out there is that there will be no meaningful democratic reforms implemented in the coming five years and so Zanu PF is going to blatantly rig the 2028 elections to perpetuate the dictatorship, the failed state, and the suffering and death of the masses.

It pays in the end to get the best in the beginning, so goes the old adage. How prophetic!

We were not diligent in selecting Zanu PF as the nation’s liberation heroes because Mugabe and his cronies saw this as an opportunity to remove the white colonial oppressors only to take over and become the new oppressors.

The Zanu PF thugs did not honour the “One man, one vote!” rallying call of the liberation days in 1980 under the pretext they did not trust the British to hold free, fair and credible elections. The people were told if Zanu PF did not win the election the bush war would continue. Of course, the people voted to end the war. And the number one task Mugabe did as soon as he got into power was to consolidate Zanu PF’s iron grip on power by imposing a de facto one-party, Zanu PF, dictatorship.

The nation’s plan B was to elect opposition leaders who would implement the necessary democratic changes to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections. The people of Zimbabwe have risked livelihoods, limbs and even their very lives, from the wrath of the tyrannical Zanu PF thugs, to elect the late Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC/CCC friends on the understanding they would implement the required reforms.

MDC/CCC leaders have not only failed to implement even one reform in 23 years but, worst of all, they have been participating in flawed election to give Zanu PF legitimacy and thus perpetuate the dictatorship.

After the treasonous betrayal by Zanu PF, the people should have been more careful in their selection of the opposition for plane B. Alas! They were not careful and now the nation is stuck with a tyrannical and belligerent Zanu PF kept in power by the corrupt and utterly useless CCC opposition. The people themselves are confused and in their desperation they continue to put their trust in the corrupt and useless opposition. This is the stuff nightmares are mad of!

Other than getting the masses to open their eyes and minds and accept CCC leaders will never implement the reforms and to elect competent opposition leaders who will implement the reforms; there is no plan C. How does one get the panicked, confused and desperate masses to open their eyes and minds, is the million dollar question!

Sikhala To Make A Statement On His Political Future

By A Correspondent| Fresh from a second conviction on charges of communicating falsehoods, former Zengeza West legislator Job Sikhala will today make a statement on his political future.

Sikhala who was released from Chikurubi Maximum prison last week after spending more than 600 days after his arrest in July 2022, had the nation guessing his position amid skirmishes in the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).

It remains unclear what Sikhala will say but there are strong feelings that he will not follow former CCC leader Nelson Chamisa who walked away from the party and is yet to announce the name of the new movement he is starting.

It is also not clear if Sikhala is working with self-proclaimed Interim CCC Secretary General Sengezo Tshabangu.

Is Boris Johnson Bouncing Back? Rishi Sunak Opens Door to Political Comeback

By Dorrothy Moyo | In an intriguing twist to British politics, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has hinted at the possibility of Boris Johnson, his predecessor-but-one, making a significant return to the political arena. During an interview with ITV, Sunak expressed his openness to utilizing Johnson’s talents in the future, sparking speculation and anticipation among political circles and the public alike.

### A Reunion on the Horizon?

Sunak’s revelations came ahead of the airing of the new documentary “Sunak: Up Close,” set to broadcast on ITV1, where he discussed his relationship with Boris Johnson. Despite acknowledging the “well-documented differences” between them, Sunak reminisced about their productive collaboration in the past. “I’m proud of the work that we did together. And we worked well together for a long time,” Sunak stated, leaving the door ajar for Johnson’s potential re-entry into a prominent political role.

### Tory Titans: The Potential Comeback

The notion of Boris Johnson’s return has been met with enthusiasm by several high-profile Conservatives. Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg lauded Johnson as the party’s “most effective campaigner,” suggesting his involvement could serve as a rejuvenating force for the Tories. Similarly, Conservative MP Paul Bristow and Senior Tory Sir Michael Fabricant echoed the sentiment, advocating for Johnson’s reinstatement in some capacity to galvanize the party base.

### A Political Pendulum

Rishi Sunak’s departure from Johnson’s cabinet in July 2022 marked a pivotal moment in British politics, precipitating a domino effect of resignations that ultimately led to Johnson’s departure from 10 Downing Street. However, Sunak’s recent comments suggest a potential reconciliation and strategic alliance that could redefine the Conservative Party’s trajectory ahead of the next general election.

### The Road Ahead

As the political landscape remains abuzz with speculation, the prospect of Boris Johnson’s comeback underlines the dynamic and often unpredictable nature of British politics. With Sunak at the helm and Johnson possibly returning to the fray, the Conservative Party appears poised to navigate the challenges ahead with a blend of new leadership and experienced charisma.

The unfolding scenario prompts a broader reflection on political alliances, leadership dynamics, and the strategic maneuvering that defines the quest for governance in the United Kingdom. As the documentary airs and further details emerge, all eyes will be on Sunak and Johnson, two titans of Tory politics, whose next moves could significantly impact the country’s political future.

Men Caught With 19 Cattle

In a swift operation, authorities intercepted two suspected cattle rustlers near Bulawayo yesterday morning, foiling their attempt to transport 19 stolen head of cattle from Insiza District.

The bustling scene outside Bulawayo Central Police Station captured the attention of residents as they witnessed the suspects, Edmore Bhibhi (49) and Farai Pambukani (28), along with a truck carrying the pilfered livestock.

Residents gathered around, expressing a mix of anger and satisfaction as the suspects were brought in. Some seized the moment to document the event, taking selfies and recording videos to share the news far and wide.

Inspector Abednico Ncube, the Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, commended the vigilance of an Insiza Rural District Council worker whose timely tip-off led to the arrests. The worker, whose identity remains undisclosed, noticed the suspicious truck late Tuesday evening and took action.

Upon confrontation, the suspects failed to produce legal documentation for the cattle, prompting the council worker to alert the authorities. Despite attempts by the suspects to evade capture by veering off-road, the police, aided by the persistent council worker, swiftly intercepted the truck.

Subsequent interrogation revealed the truck harbored 13 cows and six oxen, valued at approximately US$7,600. Inspector Ncube emphasized the importance of community cooperation in combating stock theft, affirming that Bulawayo will not tolerate such criminal activities.

As the suspects await legal proceedings, this operation stands as a testament to the effectiveness of community vigilance and police responsiveness in safeguarding against livestock theft in the region.

Mnangagwa Threatens To Punish Parents For Children’s Crimes

By A Correspondent

The enactment of the Children’s Amendment Act brings forth a significant shift in legal responsibility, as parents and guardians now face potential criminal charges for offenses committed by their children, it has emerged.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently signed the newly-gazetted Act into law, signaling a stringent approach to parental accountability.

Under the amended legislation, failure by parents to instill discipline and prevent their children from engaging in criminal activities renders them liable to prosecution.

The Act broadens the scope of liability, encompassing scenarios where parents either directly or indirectly facilitate their child’s involvement in unlawful acts.

Specifically, Section 13 of the Act outlines various scenarios where parental culpability arises, including instances where parents encourage, train, or provide facilities for their children to commit offenses.

Moreover, a parent or guardian failing to take reasonable steps to prevent their child from committing a crime, when they had the capacity to do so, could also lead to criminal charges.

Crucially, the law underscores that any individual, irrespective of parental status, found guilty of these offenses will face penalties equivalent to those imposed for the child’s wrongdoing.

Furthermore, the Act imposes strict consequences for parents who unjustly deny medical treatment or access to medical care for their children, with fines up to level 5 or potential imprisonment for a year.

This legislative overhaul underscores a commitment to safeguarding the welfare of children and ensuring parental accountability in curbing juvenile delinquency.

As the legal landscape evolves, the responsibility placed on parents to actively deter their hildren from criminal behavior becomes paramount, with legal repercussions awaiting those who neglect this duty.

Moroccan Publication Blasts CAF Boss Motsepe

Sports Correspondent

A Moroccan publication has recently voiced concerns regarding the consistent presence of Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe at South Africa’s matches during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

The online platform SATV.MA published an article suggesting that Motsepe’s frequent presence at the games may have exerted undue pressure on match officials, potentially biasing decisions in favor of the Bafana Bafana team.

The report highlighted Motsepe’s attendance at all of South Africa’s matches, including the crucial last-16 encounter against Morocco.

It raised questions about whether Motsepe’s presence was deliberate, especially considering the logistical challenges of following his national team across various stadiums.

The article noted the observations of many Afcon enthusiasts and sports analysts who speculated that Motsepe’s presence could influence referees and officials, potentially compromising the integrity of the matches.

It pointed out instances where Motsepe traveled to different cities to support the South African team, raising concerns about the impartiality of match officiating.

The implication of Motsepe’s attendance, as suggested by the report, is that it could undermine the sporting nature of the games by introducing external pressures that may impact referees’ decisions, ultimately affecting the outcome of matches.
