SHURUGWI – Magistrate Sithabile Zungula remanded two gold miners in custody until October 25, 2023, for allegedly committing murder by stabbing their colleague three times over a dispute involving 16 grams of gold.

Oliver Ncube, a 22-year-old from Gokwe, and Munyaradzi Marufu, a 25-year-old from Zvishavane, are presently receiving medical attention at Shurugwi District Hospital. They were assaulted by other miners for purportedly stabbing Evince Mapfumo. The occurrence took place at Nduku Mine on Tuesday evening at around 5 pm.

The circumstances indicate that the trio engaged in mining activities together at the same mine. On Monday, they managed to extract a total of 16 grams of gold.

MASVINGO – Siyano Machaya is no longer Chief Nyamandi and whatever he says and does is null and void because his acting period ended four years ago in 2019, one of the family elders and former Helen McGhie head Hebert Horuno Nyamandi Zengeya has said.

Zengeya said the 24 families that are heir to the Nyamandi throne sat and selected the new chief Zvagara Masunda in 2021 and that result was endorsed by Government.

He said Masunda was selected in the presence of the District Development Co-ordinator and is therefore chief of the Nyamandi people.

Zengeya, a no nonsense man and one of the best school heads to come out of this country charged in an interview with The Mirror that Machaya is an illegal chief who hangs in the position to serve Zanu PF Lovemore Matuke’s political interests.

He attacked Machaya for refusing his subjects food along political lines and described him as a shame to the people of Nyamandi.

Asked for comment, Machaya said he does not care what the 24 houses of Nyamandi say or think about him because chiefs are now selected and appointed by President Mnangagwa.

“I don’t care about those 24 Nyamandi houses. They don’t matter at all. The chief is now selected and appointed by the President,” said Machaya.

The law allows a chief to act for a maximum of two years after the death of his father. Machaya has been acting for six years following the death of his father, Kokerai Machaya in 2017.

While the FIU’s efforts to target potential money laundering activities within the car dealership sector have garnered attention, many are now questioning the government’s motives and the apparent selectivity in their enforcement actions. This stems from the contrasting treatment of smaller players and major figures involved in alleged money laundering, particularly those associated with the so-called “gold mafia.”

FIU director-general, Mr. Oliver Chiperesa, revealed that Zimbabwe is losing a substantial amount, estimated to be between US$1 billion and US$1.5 billion annually, to money laundering schemes. The decision to focus on car dealerships as potential money laundering hotspots raised eyebrows as there are no international standards specifically targeting this sector.

What has raised concerns is the apparent imbalance in the government’s approach to money laundering enforcement. While small car dealers face heightened scrutiny, several high-profile individuals connected to the alleged “gold mafia” have seemingly evaded the same level of accountability.

Critics argue that by concentrating efforts on small money laundering operations while seemingly letting off individuals implicated in larger, more significant financial crimes, the government’s actions may lack transparency and fairness.

The events which caused a lot of mayhem in Parliament where CCC went out of parliament about letters of recall by a member of CCC. They have not disputed that he is a member of CCC. He informed the clerk of Parliament who in compliance with the constitution had to act accordingly. The letter came from a member who holds an office in the CCC.

CCC wants to shift blame on the clerk of Parliament, he is not the originator of the letter, he is just acting according to the letter. The CCC finds itself in a predicament. If you let lawlessness take hold of your party thinking that it will attack your enermies one day the lawlessness will affect your party. In CCC we have a party leader who ascended to power through a coup in Buhera. Because of his insecurity he can not call for a Congress he fears to have structures because he knows someone will take over. Rave donga watonga. One does not know who is doing what. His rivals are conspiring against him. This is an internal matter within CCC. It’s unlike us here we have structures. In ZANU PF no one just wakes up and writes a letter recalling people. We don’t demonstrate in the streets against our own errands we take then to the laws of this country.

Instead CCC should go to the courts to address their internal rebellion. They want to aportion the rebellion to the speaker or the President.

ZANU PF does not thrive on a divided opposition. We want opposition in Parliament we can not be seen to undermine the opposition that we want to compete against during elections. Who are we as ZANU PF to challenge what the people would have said. We want constructive debates in Parliament. Its not good for democy to have chaos but the chaos here is home grown. Chamisa accepted to the wapusa wapusa where anyone just do what they want. He said we want to disorganised ourselves in order to hide from the state. Now the strategy ambiguity is eating on him. He thought it will destroy ZANU PF but it is consuming him.

Why doesn’t EU fund development of towns here if they want their CCC to win. All CCC gets from the EU is money for subversion. They want to fund them when they are at State House. The town’s are now affected by cholera in our cities run by the opposition. We expect the EU to Provide funding to their CCC to eradicate cholera. We are here to categorically state that we are not involved in the wapusa wapusa party. We are busy developing the country. Boycott but who was in Parliament today, the CCC was in Parliament despite their boycotting talk.

Parliament is not a place to chose what you want to take and not to take what you don’t want. Chamisa through his boycott talk is trying to buy back his way to parliament through a back door. This kind of behaviour is not proper for a man who aspires to lead Zimbabwe. He wants direct talks with President Mnangagwa which the President does not ordinarily have problems but he wants his engagement with the President to fight his internal wars with Biti and Welshman. The way he runs CCC is the way he wants to engage the President behind darkness. He wants to strike a deal with the President behind the back of his colleagues. The President says I can’t help you to deal with your internal squabbles.

Chamisa wants to draw our President into a similar scheme where there is a conspiracy with his other colleagues. He wants to strike a deal in the dark. The President is saying don’t abuse me to solve your problems come in the open. CCC should use their internal systems to deal with their problems. They should also be vigilant not to allow people not authorised to write letters. If the letters get to parliament they must go to courts rather than appealing to EU or SADC. We want to work well with EU. We appreciate the EU as an economic partner we would want to engage on all aspects including debt relief. If they want Chamisa to be President they should work now for 2028. They should begin now to send development funds to CCC run councils so that the electorate can vote for them.

The EU must send Party organisers to CCC so that we don’t have a wapusa wapusa party. It looks like organising theory is absent in the head of Chamisa. It is a donga watonga party. Surprisingly the CCC is full of lawyers. They should send lecturers to Chamisa or send him for two months in Europe for experience of all European parties. He needs Party building course 101 to make him vigilant against illegal letters to parliament to deal with internal rebellion. We are revolutionary parties in SADC we know how slavery and colonialism has affected us, we are vigilant Chamisa can not abuse SADC. The EU wants Chamisa to win on the day of election. The EU should start now to educate their Chamisa on political organisation before 2028.

A hyena attack turned fatal after one person was killed while two others were seriously injured in Marange area of Manicaland Province this Wednesday.

Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Authority (ZIMPARKS) spokesperson, Mr Tinashe Farawo confirmed the attack which occurred in Gamunorwa Village under Chief Marange.

He said a Zimparks reaction team is on the ground attending to the situation.

It is believed that around 10pm Wednesday, Noah Jambaya was attacked by a pack of hyenas before escaping to seek help in the village.

A fellow villager, Petro Machombo, was seriously injured as he tried to assist Jambaya, while Charles Gamunorwa, who was irrigating in his garden, was attacked and died on the spot.

Information Perm Sec Nick Mangwana addresses Workplace Sexual Harassment Sensitisation and Awareness Programme at ZBC

The full speech by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Mr Nick Mangwana during a Workplace Sexual Harassment Sensitisation and Awareness Programme at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation this Thursday.

Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen. I cannot say the usual it gives me great pleasure to be here because the issue we have all gathered for today, gives me no pleasure at all.

Let me say, as a Ministry, we felt it was important to be part of this Workplace Sexual Harassment Sensitization and Awareness Programme here today. We hope our presence gives the guidance and impetus needed to deal with this scourge once and for all. Not only here at ZBC, but media houses throughout the country.

Zimbabwe’s media sector plays a key role in the dissemination of information. One of its goals is to inculcate positive values, attitudes, and behavior change of the public towards socio-economic and cultural environments with a view to promoting sustainable development (SD) at local and national levels.

It is highly worrying that the media sector is itself embroiled in the disregard of some of the very values it is supposed to educate others on. The very tenets of Ubuntu dictate that each human being is to respected and treated fairly in any situation. This includes the newsrooms. Every person in a newsroom deserves to be treated with hunhu/Ubuntu.

At policy level, its even explicit. Government has zero tolerance towards sexual harassment of females or males at workplaces and has a Public Service Sexual Harassment Policy which is ruthlessly enforced. I am aware that here at ZBC you have your own policy in place. I urge you to likewise ruthlessly but fairly apply it when cases of alleged sexual harassment are reported.

Media practitioners in all their diversity are an important cog in nation building. It is, therefore, important that their ability to carry out this task is not tampered with.

I will leave it to the presenters who will come after me to explain in detail and with accuracy what exactly constitutes sexual harassment. As they do so, I would like us all to remember that sexual harassment can be perpetrated on both male and females.

No one should be ashamed or be afraid to report cases of harassment. It is not a shameful thing, it is not the victims fault and certainly it is not something that one should be dismissed from work for refusing or reporting.

I assure you that as a Ministry, our doors are open for those who may feel their voices are not heard when they report incidents of sexual harassment.
Government cannot address this challenge alone which requires concerted efforts by all stakeholders joining hands. We applaud the interventions that the Zimbabwe Gender Commission has made to engage with the industry at large in addressing sexual harassment concerns. Together, we can all stamp out this shameful menace once and all from our newsrooms.

Building on this sensitisation and awareness programme, I urge not just the ZBC, but all media houses in Zimbabwe, to ensure that a safe working environment obtains where all employees can freely carry out their duties.

The Second Republic, under His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has made significant strides in ensuring a safe, free and competitive operating environment for all media and ensuring that indeed, information is treated as a public good.

It is therefore now up to you, colleagues here present and elsewhere, to make sure this environment cascades down into the newsrooms.

Government, and our Ministry in particular, is at hand to give assistance and support where needed. It is my fervent hope that lessons and wisdom to be gleaned from todays programme, will be cherished and actioned and sexual harassment in the workplace will soon be a thing of the past.

THE death toll in the Middle East continues to rise, with Israeli airstrikes hitting targets in Gaza City as raging battles between Israel and Hamas entered Day Six.

The Hamas health ministry says the death toll has risen to at least 1 354, with dozens killed since Thursday morning after a massive Israeli bombardment of the enclave.

Fears have grown for Gaza’s 2.4 million residents now enduring the 5th war in 15 years in the long-blockaded territory, which has also seen Israel cut off water, food and power supplies.

Israeli Energy Minister Israel Katz vowed that the total siege of Gaza will continue until the hostages are freed.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) says it is in contact with Hamas and Israel as part of efforts to facilitate the release of hostages taken into Gaza.

The ICRC also believes the humanitarian situation inside the Gaza Strip could become unmanageable without a way to get supplies into the besieged territory.

ICRC Regional Director for the Near and Middle East Mr Fabrizio Carboni said the organisation as a neutral intermediary is ready to conduct humanitarian visits, facilitate communication between hostages and family members and facilitate any eventual release.

Meanwhile, Syrian state media has reported that Israeli strikes knocked Syria’s two main airports out of service in the first such attack since a weekend Hamas assault on Israel triggered fierce fighting.

Israeli strikes have repeatedly caused the grounding of flights at airports in the capital Damascus and the Northern City Aleppo which are controlled by the government of war-torn Syria.

Addressing the media in Harare on Wednesday, President Chamisa accused Zanu PF of clandestinely plotting to destroy the citizens’ movement.

According to President Chamisa, CCC is a structureless structure.

In a stunning turn of events, while the South African authorities have yet to make any arrests of suspected GoldMafia members exposed in illicit cigarette sales, two Zimbabwean nationals have been sentenced in the Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Limpopo for their involvement in the possession of R9.6 million worth of illicit cigarettes and corruption.

Marshall Masiya, 32, and Oswald Raisi, 27, made a shocking plea of guilt for the charges brought against them.

The court proceedings unveiled that on May 20, at the Beitbridge border, officials from the South African Revenue Services (Sars) conducted a routine inspection and immediately noticed discrepancies between the goods declared on the documents and the actual load on the truck. As a result, the truck was rerouted to an inspection ramp, and the cargo was subsequently unpacked.

What they discovered was astonishing. Hidden beneath cotton oil cake were a staggering 440 master boxes of Remington Gold cigarettes, valued at a whopping R9.6 million. The scale of the illicit cigarette operation left authorities astounded.

The situation took a darker twist when it was revealed that Oswald Raisi attempted to bribe a Sars official with a gratification of R30,000 to prevent the inspection and search of the truck. The vigilant official promptly alerted the police, leading to the arrest of both Masiya and Raisi.

In the aggravation of sentence, State Prosecutor advocate Phumudzo Mudau emphasized the gravity of the offenses and their prevalence within the court’s jurisdiction. He argued that the accused displayed no remorse and called for a strong message to potential offenders by imposing harsher sentences, given the enormous value of the confiscated cigarettes and the societal cry for stricter measures against corruption.

As a result, the State requested the court to impose a custodial sentence for the corruption charges.

In a final twist, the Renault truck, two trailers, and the 44 master boxes of Remington Gold cigarettes were forfeited to the State.

Marshall Masiya received an 18-month imprisonment sentence for illegal immigration, while Oswald Raisi faced a more severe sentence. Raisi was sentenced to five years imprisonment or a substantial fine of R5 million for the possession of illicit cigarettes, and an additional eight years imprisonment for his involvement in corruption.

The court also ruled that both men were unfit to possess a firearm, further underscoring the seriousness of their crimes. TAKUWA Natural Products Plans to Introduce Donkey Milk in Zimbabwe’s Supermarkets

In a groundbreaking development, TAKUWA Natural Products, a Botswana-based company, is in the early stages of establishing a donkey milk value-addition production base in Zimbabwe. While donkeys in Zimbabwe have predominantly served as a source of draught power for farmers, this venture is set to introduce donkey milk and related products to the nation.

Recent research studies have highlighted the wider natural health attributes of donkey milk that could be harnessed to enhance human health, especially regarding skin care. TAKUWA Natural Products, which has been refining its systems since 2016, offers natural donkey milk for human consumption and a range of donkey milk soaps known for their effectiveness in curing various skin conditions.

According to Taolo Sesupo, the operations manager of Takuwa Natural Products, donkey milk is characterized by its purity, containing no bacteria and boasting low fat content. Their research has indicated that donkey milk contains essential amino acids that support cardiovascular health, help in the treatment of thrombosis, and combat common ailments like colds. Sesupo stated, “We focus mainly on donkey milk products and natural herbs. For now, we are into soaps and cosmetics. In recent years, we’ve had substantial interest in our products from different countries, including Zimbabwe and South Africa. We have received numerous requests on our website and social media to expand our supplies to Zimbabwe.”

In light of this demand, the company is actively seeking investors or partners to facilitate local production in Zimbabwe and potentially open another manufacturing plant if the necessary raw materials can be sourced within the country.

Controversial Sodomy Case Unfolds in Kwekwe.

A case has emerged in Kwekwe, Zimbabwe, where two men, James Mapawa (40) and Praise Mpofu (25), are facing joint charges of sodomy after an unusual turn of events. The case revolves around allegations that the two had lived together as a couple and engaged in anal sexual intercourse before a sudden fallout, leading to a police report.

The unexpected saga began when Mapawa proposed love to Mpofu in June, believing that Mpofu was a woman who was dressed and pretended to be one. They reportedly stayed together for two months as a couple, with Mapawa unaware of Mpofu’s true gender.

However, things took a dramatic turn when Mapawa claimed that he had discovered that Mpofu was male, prompting him to report the matter to the police. The charges of sodomy were subsequently brought against them.

Both Mapawa and Mpofu appeared before Kwekwe magistrate Itai Kagwere to face the sodomy charges and were released on $100,000 bail each.

In their defense, the accused have denied the allegations and are now seeking to have the charges quashed. Their lawyer, Artwel Chinamatira of Masawi and Partners, argues that the allegations are intended to embarrass Mapawa and prejudice his defense. He stated that the two had a misunderstanding over something else and never engaged in anal sexual intercourse as alleged.

Chinamatira challenged the State to present facts rather than alleged confessions, especially since the accused persons vehemently deny such confessions. The defense attorney emphasized that the burden of proving guilt rests on the State, and it should allege and prove its own case without relying on alleged utterances or reports from the accused.

Chinamatira concluded by requesting that the State’s outline be quashed, as the allegations contained within it could potentially harm the accused’s defense.

We won in a peaceful election and we are now focusing on governance. We are happy that we are getting more and more support. Legitimacy was decided by the electorate. We are dismayed by events of boycotting parliament. Events in Parliament have nothing to do with ZANU PF. Parliament is an arm of the state which is independent.

The events which caused a lot of mayhem in Parliament where CCC went out of parliament about letters of recall by a member of CCC. They have not disputed that he is a member of CCC. He informed the clerk of Parliament who in compliance with the constitution had to act accordingly. The letter came from a member who holds an office in the CCC.

CCC wants to shift blame on the clerk of Parliament, he is not the originator of the letter, he is just acting according to the letter. The CCC finds itself in a predicament. If you let lawlessness take hold of your party thinking that it will attack your enermies one day the lawlessness will affect your party. In CCC we have a party leader who ascended to power through a coup in Buhera. Because of his insecurity he can not call for a Congress he fears to have structures because he knows someone will take over. Rave donga watonga. One does not know who is doing what. His rivals are conspiring against him. This is an internal matter within CCC. It’s unlike us here we have structures. In ZANU PF no one just wakes up and writes a letter recalling people. We don’t demonstrate in the streets against our own errands we take then to the laws of this country.

Instead CCC should go to the courts to address their internal rebellion. They want to aportion the rebellion to the speaker or the President.

ZANU PF does not thrive on a divided opposition. We want opposition in Parliament we can not be seen to undermine the opposition that we want to compete against during elections. Who are we as ZANU PF to challenge what the people would have said. We want constructive debates in Parliament. Its not good for democy to have chaos but the chaos here is home grown. Chamisa accepted to the wapusa wapusa where anyone just do what they want. He said we want to disorganised ourselves in order to hide from the state. Now the strategy ambiguity is eating on him. He thought it will destroy ZANU PF but it is consuming him.

The chaos in CCC has been confirmed by its senior people, the likes of Biti and Chamisa and also their influential followers have also acknowledged that there is crisis within the CCC.

We want to urge the CCC to first address their house before attacking the speaker. This comes after CCC tried to a abuse SADC through sending Nevers Mumba who wanted to instruct heads of state on what to do about Zimbabwe elections. CCC sends their delegation to SADC the likes of Gladys Hlatshwayo and Jameson Timba. Chamisa wanted to bulldoze his way through elected heads of state on what to do. Who are you Chamisa to tell Heads of States on what to do. Chamisa is now trying to create local shenanigans in order to say there is a crisis in Zimbabwe. Chamisa is a dictator within CCC and wants the country to be run along the way he runs his Party. He is playing to the gallery of Western Capitals.

CCC wanted to announce their own results using equipment they received from EU. If the EU wants Chamisa to win they must have funded the urban centers of Harare where CCC runs inorder to make them winners.

Why doesn’t EU fund development of towns here if they want their CCC to win. All CCC gets from the EU is money for subversion. They want to fund them when they are at State House. The town’s are now affected by cholera in our cities run by the opposition. We expect the EU to Provide funding to their CCC to eradicate cholera. We are here to categorically state that we are not involved in the wapusa wapusa party. We are busy developing the country. Boycott but who was in Parliament today, the CCC was in Parliament despite their boycotting talk.

Parliament is not a place to chose what you want to take and not to take what you don’t want. Chamisa through his boycott talk is trying to buy back his way to parliament through a back door. This kind of behaviour is not proper for a man who aspires to lead Zimbabwe. He wants direct talks with President Mnangagwa which the President does not ordinarily have problems but he wants his engagement with the President to fight his internal wars with Biti and Welshman. The way he runs CCC is the way he wants to engage the President behind darkness. He wants to strike a deal with the President behind the back of his colleagues. The President says I can’t help you to deal with your internal squabbles.

Chamisa wants to draw our President into a similar scheme where there is a conspiracy with his other colleagues. He wants to strike a deal in the dark. The President is saying don’t abuse me to solve your problems come in the open. CCC should use their internal systems to deal with their problems. They should also be vigilant not to allow people not authorised to write letters. If the letters get to parliament they must go to courts rather than appealing to EU or SADC. We want to work well with EU. We appreciate the EU as an economic partner we would want to engage on all aspects including debt relief. If they want Chamisa to be President they should work now for 2028. They should begin now to send development funds to CCC run councils so that the electorate can vote for them.

The EU must send Party organisers to CCC so that we don’t have a wapusa wapusa party. It looks like organising theory is absent in the head of Chamisa. It is a donga watonga party. Surprisingly the CCC is full of lawyers. They should send lecturers to Chamisa or send him for two months in Europe for experience of all European parties. He needs Party building course 101 to make him vigilant against illegal letters to parliament to deal with internal rebellion. We are revolutionary parties in SADC we know how slavery and colonialism has affected us, we are vigilant Chamisa can not abuse SADC. The EU wants Chamisa to win on the day of election. The EU should start now to educate their Chamisa on political organisation before 2028.

Unlike the EU the Chinese are partnering us, sending their investors here and building infrastructure so that the people vote for ZANU PF. China clothes ZANU PF for the battle, the EU should do the same for the CCC inorder for them to be voted.

The Zimbabwean government has banned large gatherings in some parts of the country and increased surveillance at ports of entry in an effort to curb the rise in cholera cases.

As of 3 October, 74 cases were recorded in Bikita CTC (8), Chiredzi (2), Zaka (4), Masvingo Province; Buhera (45), Chipinge (6), Makoni (1), Mutare (1), Mutasa (1) in Manicaland Province; Zvimba (1), Mhondoro-Ngezi (1) in Mashonaland West Province; and BRIDH (4) in Harare Province.

Women In Governance and Peacebuilding is concerned with some areas that are going two to three days without water while facing the challenge of cholera outbreak in Masvingo Province and this affects women.

“We urge Masvingo City Council and Masvingo Rural District Council to collect refuse in time and provide women with clean and safe water in time to ensure that we stop the continue spread of cholera,” the organisation said.

Women in Governance and Peacebuilding (WIGP) is a women-led rural community-driven citizen pressure group, whose mandate is to economically empower girls and young women.

Gary Mapanzure’s close associate and socioaite Hillary Makaya has blamed Mars Zimbabwe for refusing to airlift the artist as the ambulance demanded US$2,900 upfront. Mapanzure was supposed to be airlifted from Masvingo to Harare for urgent medical care.
Makaya says Gary fought for 10 hours after the accident until he lost the battle.

THE death toll in the Middle East continues to rise, with Israeli airstrikes hitting targets in Gaza City as raging battles between Israel and Hamas entered Day Six.

The Hamas health ministry says the death toll has risen to at least 1 354, with dozens killed since Thursday morning after a massive Israeli bombardment of the enclave.

Fears have grown for Gaza’s 2.4 million residents now enduring the 5th war in 15 years in the long-blockaded territory, which has also seen Israel cut off water, food and power supplies.

Israeli Energy Minister Israel Katz vowed that the total siege of Gaza will continue until the hostages are freed.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) says it is in contact with Hamas and Israel as part of efforts to facilitate the release of hostages taken into Gaza.

The ICRC also believes the humanitarian situation inside the Gaza Strip could become unmanageable without a way to get supplies into the besieged territory.

ICRC Regional Director for the Near and Middle East Mr Fabrizio Carboni said the organisation as a neutral intermediary is ready to conduct humanitarian visits, facilitate communication between hostages and family members and facilitate any eventual release.

Meanwhile, Syrian state media has reported that Israeli strikes knocked Syria’s two main airports out of service in the first such attack since a weekend Hamas assault on Israel triggered fierce fighting.

Israeli strikes have repeatedly caused the grounding of flights at airports in the capital Damascus and the Northern City Aleppo which are controlled by the government of war-torn Syria.

Information Perm Sec Nick Mangwana addresses Workplace Sexual Harassment Sensitisation and Awareness Programme at ZBC

The full speech by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Mr Nick Mangwana during a Workplace Sexual Harassment Sensitisation and Awareness Programme at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation this Thursday.

Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen. I cannot say the usual it gives me great pleasure to be here because the issue we have all gathered for today, gives me no pleasure at all.

Let me say, as a Ministry, we felt it was important to be part of this Workplace Sexual Harassment Sensitization and Awareness Programme here today. We hope our presence gives the guidance and impetus needed to deal with this scourge once and for all. Not only here at ZBC, but media houses throughout the country.

Zimbabwe’s media sector plays a key role in the dissemination of information. One of its goals is to inculcate positive values, attitudes, and behavior change of the public towards socio-economic and cultural environments with a view to promoting sustainable development (SD) at local and national levels.

It is highly worrying that the media sector is itself embroiled in the disregard of some of the very values it is supposed to educate others on. The very tenets of Ubuntu dictate that each human being is to respected and treated fairly in any situation. This includes the newsrooms. Every person in a newsroom deserves to be treated with hunhu/Ubuntu.

At policy level, its even explicit. Government has zero tolerance towards sexual harassment of females or males at workplaces and has a Public Service Sexual Harassment Policy which is ruthlessly enforced. I am aware that here at ZBC you have your own policy in place. I urge you to likewise ruthlessly but fairly apply it when cases of alleged sexual harassment are reported.

Media practitioners in all their diversity are an important cog in nation building. It is, therefore, important that their ability to carry out this task is not tampered with.

I will leave it to the presenters who will come after me to explain in detail and with accuracy what exactly constitutes sexual harassment. As they do so, I would like us all to remember that sexual harassment can be perpetrated on both male and females.

No one should be ashamed or be afraid to report cases of harassment. It is not a shameful thing, it is not the victims fault and certainly it is not something that one should be dismissed from work for refusing or reporting.

I assure you that as a Ministry, our doors are open for those who may feel their voices are not heard when they report incidents of sexual harassment.
Government cannot address this challenge alone which requires concerted efforts by all stakeholders joining hands. We applaud the interventions that the Zimbabwe Gender Commission has made to engage with the industry at large in addressing sexual harassment concerns. Together, we can all stamp out this shameful menace once and all from our newsrooms.

Building on this sensitisation and awareness programme, I urge not just the ZBC, but all media houses in Zimbabwe, to ensure that a safe working environment obtains where all employees can freely carry out their duties.

The Second Republic, under His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has made significant strides in ensuring a safe, free and competitive operating environment for all media and ensuring that indeed, information is treated as a public good.

It is therefore now up to you, colleagues here present and elsewhere, to make sure this environment cascades down into the newsrooms.

Government, and our Ministry in particular, is at hand to give assistance and support where needed. It is my fervent hope that lessons and wisdom to be gleaned from todays programme, will be cherished and actioned and sexual harassment in the workplace will soon be a thing of the past.

We won in a peaceful election and we are now focusing on governance. We are happy that we are getting more and more support. Legitimacy was decided by the electorate. We are dismayed by events of boycotting parliament. Events in Parliament have nothing to do with ZANU PF. Parliament is an arm of the state which is independent.

The events which caused a lot of mayhem in Parliament where CCC went out of parliament about letters of recall by a member of CCC. They have not disputed that he is a member of CCC. He informed the clerk of Parliament who in compliance with the constitution had to act accordingly. The letter came from a member who holds an office in the CCC.

CCC wants to shift blame on the clerk of Parliament, he is not the originator of the letter, he is just acting according to the letter. The CCC finds itself in a predicament. If you let lawlessness take hold of your party thinking that it will attack your enermies one day the lawlessness will affect your party. In CCC we have a party leader who ascended to power through a coup in Buhera. Because of his insecurity he can not call for a Congress he fears to have structures because he knows someone will take over. Rave donga watonga. One does not know who is doing what. His rivals are conspiring against him. This is an internal matter within CCC. It’s unlike us here we have structures. In ZANU PF no one just wakes up and writes a letter recalling people. We don’t demonstrate in the streets against our own errands we take then to the laws of this country.

Instead CCC should go to the courts to address their internal rebellion. They want to aportion the rebellion to the speaker or the President.

ZANU PF does not thrive on a divided opposition. We want opposition in Parliament we can not be seen to undermine the opposition that we want to compete against during elections. Who are we as ZANU PF to challenge what the people would have said. We want constructive debates in Parliament. Its not good for democy to have chaos but the chaos here is home grown. Chamisa accepted to the wapusa wapusa where anyone just do what they want. He said we want to disorganised ourselves in order to hide from the state. Now the strategy ambiguity is eating on him. He thought it will destroy ZANU PF but it is consuming him.

The chaos in CCC has been confirmed by its senior people, the likes of Biti and Chamisa and also their influential followers have also acknowledged that there is crisis within the CCC.

We want to urge the CCC to first address their house before attacking the speaker. This comes after CCC tried to a abuse SADC through sending Nevers Mumba who wanted to instruct heads of state on what to do about Zimbabwe elections. CCC sends their delegation to SADC the likes of Gladys Hlatshwayo and Jameson Timba. Chamisa wanted to bulldoze his way through elected heads of state on what to do. Who are you Chamisa to tell Heads of States on what to do. Chamisa is now trying to create local shenanigans in order to say there is a crisis in Zimbabwe. Chamisa is a dictator within CCC and wants the country to be run along the way he runs his Party. He is playing to the gallery of Western Capitals.

CCC wanted to announce their own results using equipment they received from EU. If the EU wants Chamisa to win they must have funded the urban centers of Harare where CCC runs inorder to make them winners.

Why doesn’t EU fund development of towns here if they want their CCC to win. All CCC gets from the EU is money for subversion. They want to fund them when they are at State House. The town’s are now affected by cholera in our cities run by the opposition. We expect the EU to Provide funding to their CCC to eradicate cholera. We are here to categorically state that we are not involved in the wapusa wapusa party. We are busy developing the country. Boycott but who was in Parliament today, the CCC was in Parliament despite their boycotting talk.

Parliament is not a place to chose what you want to take and not to take what you don’t want. Chamisa through his boycott talk is trying to buy back his way to parliament through a back door. This kind of behaviour is not proper for a man who aspires to lead Zimbabwe. He wants direct talks with President Mnangagwa which the President does not ordinarily have problems but he wants his engagement with the President to fight his internal wars with Biti and Welshman. The way he runs CCC is the way he wants to engage the President behind darkness. He wants to strike a deal with the President behind the back of his colleagues. The President says I can’t help you to deal with your internal squabbles.

A hyena attack turned fatal after one person was killed while two others were seriously injured in Marange area of Manicaland Province this Wednesday.

Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Authority (ZIMPARKS) spokesperson, Mr Tinashe Farawo confirmed the attack which occurred in Gamunorwa Village under Chief Marange.

He said a Zimparks reaction team is on the ground attending to the situation.

It is believed that around 10pm Wednesday, Noah Jambaya was attacked by a pack of hyenas before escaping to seek help in the village.

A fellow villager, Petro Machombo, was seriously injured as he tried to assist Jambaya, while Charles Gamunorwa, who was irrigating in his garden, was attacked and died on the spot.

Gary Mapanzure’s close associate and socioaite Hillary Makaya has blamed Mars Zimbabwe for refusing to airlift the artist as the ambulance demanded US$2,900 upfront. Mapanzure was supposed to be airlifted from Masvingo to Harare for urgent medical care.
Makaya says Gary fought for 10 hours after the accident until he lost the battle.

CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa has said CCC does not have the post of Secretary General.

Addressing the media in Harare on Wednesday, President Chamisa accused Zanu PF of clandestinely plotting to destroy the citizens’ movement.

According to President Chamisa, CCC is a structureless structure.

“We are a structureless structure, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, you can’t just receive a letter from planet Mars and effect recalls, we have not recalled anybody.

We don’t even know the impostor, in essence he is a fraudster, we know Zanu PF is behind the shenanigans.

Stay away from CCC, hands off CCC, this is a citizens movement; you don’t just wake up one day from the streets in a drunken stupor to say I’m so and so,” said President Chamisa.

” In this movement, we do not have the position of secretary general. We have different roles and tasks.

In this movement, we don’t give each other positions but we give each other tasks.

Nobody can just wake up and recall our candidates.

In fact, it is a Zanu-PF scheme … Zanu-PF is using certain people purporting to be CCC, who are not even in our books in terms of membership registry, “added the CCC leader.

” We are taking decisive action to end the circus. The political situation in the country is deteriorating with each passing day, which is a sad scenario, ” President Chamisa said.

By A Correspondent| In a startling turn of events, newly sworn-in Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator Jasmine Toffa was swiftly recalled just five minutes after taking the oath of office as a Member of Parliament.

The incident has raised serious concerns over the constitutional implications and the functioning of democratic processes within Zimbabwe.

On Tuesday afternoon, amidst a backdrop of anticipation, Toffa officially assumed her position as a Member of Parliament.

However, within a mere five minutes of being sworn in and taking her seat, the Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda read her name amongst the list of those recalled through a fake letter written by one Sengezo Tshabangu.

The recall was purportedly executed by an individual holding the position of Secretary-General (SG), a role that the CCC asserts does not exist within their organizational structure.

This sudden recall and its speedy implementation have ignited a fiery debate, prompting questions about the legitimacy and legality of such abrupt actions within the democratic framework of Zimbabwe. Advocates for democracy and constitutional adherence are demanding a thorough examination of the events and a clarification on the legality of the recall process.

“I am a CCC MP sworn in on Tuesday afternoon less than 5 min later as I took my seat The Speaker read my name amongst the list of the recalled, by a bogus SG a position we do not have in the CCC. Who is fooling who? Mr Speaker Sir? Sec 68 constitution of Zim,” said Toffa.

The CCC has raised its voice, vehemently challenging the recall and emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic principles in the country.

The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) was on Monday discussing a full withdrawal of MPs and Senators from parliament after 15 lawmakers were controversially recalled.

Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda wrote to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) announcing the vacancies on the basis of a letter by Sengezo Tshabangu, who has styled himself as the CCC’s interim secretary general.

Tshabangu told Mudenda that the 15 – of whom 14 are from Bulawayo and the two Matabeleland provinces – had ceased to be members of the CCC and were therefore being recalled.

One of the recalled MPs Prince Dubeko Sibanda said: “On October 1, 2020, they recalled me for ceasing to be a member of the MDC-A, which I won under in 2018. We left it and formed CCC. I won by-elections on March 26, 2022, under CCC. I did so again on in the general elections on August 23, 2023. Today, they recalled us again. It’s time for a revolution.”

All the 15 representatives have gone to court seeking an order declaring that Tshabangu has no legal standing to recall them, and that they should remain in parliament. The party has described him as an “impostor.”

The affected MPs are Pashor Raphael Sibanda (Cowdray Park); Ereck Gono (Lobengula-Magwegwe); Nicola June Watson (Bulawayo South); Desmond Makaza (Mpopoma-Mzilikazi); Obert Manduna (Nketa); Sitabile Mlilo (Proportional Representation); Jasmine Toffa (Proportional Representation); Janet Dube (Proportional Representation); Evidence Zana (Youth Quota); Morgan Ncube (Beitbridge West); Nomathemba Sibanda (Proportional Representation); Velisiwe Nkomo (Proportional Representation); Prince Dubeko Sibanda (Binga North); Bright Moyo Vanya (Lupane East) and Febion Munyaradzi (Mabvuku-Tafara).

Separately, CCC leader Nelson Chamisa is ready to withdraw all his party’s elected representatives in protest at the latest developments, a CCC insider said.

Calls for street protests will grow but Chamisa has shown some reluctance to lead marches, publicly stating that he does not want to “step on the skeletons of Zimbabweans to reach State House” – a show of concern over the violent response expected from President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime.

Chamisa had earlier written to Mudenda, who received Tshabangu’s letter on October 3, urging him to ignore the former MDC-T Matabeleland North chairman.

“As at present, none of the Members of Parliament who were elected under the CCC have been expelled from the party I lead or recalled from the National Assembly, or for that matter, from any elected position in the Senate or any local council,” Chamisa wrote.

Tshabangu has also written to local government minister Winston Chitando naming 17 councillors, 12 of them from Bulawayo, that he says have ceased to be members of the CCC. Two of the councillors are from Matabeleland South, one from Matabeleland North, one from Epworth in Harare and Masvingo’s first female mayor Shantel Chiwara.

The CCC has no formal membership and no leadership structure in place except for its leader and appointed spokespersons, a loophole which Tshabangu appears to have used to claim a powerful position for himself after submitting a purported CCC constitution to Mudenda. He previously used the same tactic with ZEC to cause the double nomination of CCC candidates in August’s polls.

If the courts rule in favour of Tshabangu in the fight, it opens the possibility that he can expel Chamisa from the party he founded in March 2022 and grab all funding due to the party under the Political Parties (Finances) Act. Zanu-PF, meanwhile, will be eyeing by-elections that could follow with a target of winning 10 seats which would give if a two thirds majority in parliament, allowing it to amend the constitution.

The recalls are “a festival of illegalities and a carnival of absurdities,” said political analyst Brian Kagoro.

Exiled former foreign affairs minister Walter Mzembi said “it will take more than elections” to bring change in Zimbabwe, adding that the CCC’s decision to go to court was a “kindergarten response” and a sign that the party was “failing to read the mood.”

“We will defend our right to vote, our freedom to choose, our constitution and our democracy with everything that we have got. It cannot and will not be business as usual,” CCC spokesman Promise Mkwananzi said in a statement.

“There comes a time where one has to draw a line in the sand, stand up and defend their dignity. Such a time has come. The people of Zimbabwe must and will take a stand. Otherwise there would be no point in voting only for the regime to remove elected officials.”

The recalls come after disputed general elections on August 23 when Mnangagwa claimed a slim majority. Regional and international election observers condemned the poll as a sham and Chamisa has been demanding fresh elections supervised by the United Nations.

THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has pledged to remain vigilant in dealing with elements bent on derailing the country’s progress.

Speaking at the official opening of the 2023 ZRP Senior Officers Conference in Harare this Wednesday, ZRP Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga said police will remain vigilant in dealing with malcontents without fear or favour.

“We remain alive to the fact that those who do not wish our country well are still pursuing the regime change agenda, so we remain vigilant as always. For this reason, let us remain focused, keeping our ears to the ground to ensure that we decisively deal with elements hell-bent on derailing our country’s progress. To this end, let us always stand ready to apprehend all those who flout the country’s laws without fear or favour,” he said.

Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister, Honourable Kazembe Kazembe noted the need for the police to decisively deal with all criminal activities as the nation targets an upper middle-income society by 2030.

“This workshop speaks of ZRP’s desire to deal with all criminal activities in the country. We must remain alive to the fact that iwe neni tinebasa. We have to work together in dealing with all criminals so that the government can achieve its desire of becoming an upper-middle-income society by 2030. But before I get into detail let me thank you for the job well done for assuring that the just-ended elections were peaceful. I want also to commend the Police for exposing fake abductions in our country,” he said.

The five-day conference, being attended by ZRP senior officers drawn from the country’s ten provinces, also noted the need for law enforcement agents to deal decisively with drug and substance abuse which is threatening national character.

A 14-year-old girl from Harare’s Glen View suburb, who was convicted of aggravated indecent assault after sexually abusing two brothers aged eight and six has been slapped with a three-year jail term.

The three-year jail term was however wholly suspended for five years on condition she does not commit a similar offense during that period.

The magistrate noted that although the offense is serious, the girl is also a child hence the need to keep her out of jail.

The victims were co-tenants with the 14-year-old girl who sexually abused them when she was taking care of two children.

Meanwhile, three suspected poachers Taylor Kurehwatira aged 73, Josephine Jiri (70) and Elector Kufandirori (39), who were allegedly found in possession of a leopard skin worth 20 thousand United States dollars and a pangolin trophy valued at US$5 000 have been arrested for contravening the Wildlife Act.

The trio was arrested while allegedly attempting to sell the leopard skin and pangolin trophy.

They were advised to apply for bail at the High Court after appearing at the magistrates court this Wednesday.

Still, at the courts, two suspected armed robbers who are accused of fatally assaulting another man along Harare Bulawayo Highway before robbing him have appeared in court facing charges of murder.

Tafadzwa Chayambuka and Simon Chihungwe are also facing charges of attempted murder after allegedly assaulting another victim they robbed of cash.

The city of Gweru has faced a dire situation with malfunctioning traffic lights that has persisted for over a decade. This long-standing issue has resulted in frequent traffic accidents and congestion in the Central Business District (CBD). The problem arose when Chinese contractor Emobuild installed solar-powered traffic lights that eventually became dysfunctional.

Gweru City had paid $360,000 out of the agreed $500,000 to Emobuild, who, in turn, refused to take responsibility for the malfunctioning lights. This dispute led to nearly a decade of arbitration between the city and the contractor. However, this protracted legal battle has now concluded, and the city has embarked on the rehabilitation of the traffic lights. The rehabilitation efforts are expected to be completed before the end of the year.

The situation had been a source of frustration for residents, who often had to contend with the absence of functional traffic lights, leading to traffic problems and accidents. Gweru Residents and Ratepayers Association (GRRA) director, Conilia Selipiwe, expressed relief that the matter has been resolved and commended the city’s initiative to repair the traffic lights.

In addition to addressing the traffic light issue, the local authority has also initiated drainage clearance in all wards to minimize flooding during the rainy season. This ongoing program is being intensified in preparation for the rains. Double Standards in Corruption Cases: Victoria Falls Mayor Convicted While ZANU PF Official Evades Justice.

By Agencies- Former Victoria Falls Mayor Somveli Dlamini has been found guilty of fraud charges and remanded in custody for sentencing, raising questions about the fairness and consistency of the Zimbabwean justice system. Dlamini, who lost his bid for Member of Parliament but had been on $50,000 bail, was denied freedom by Hwange regional magistrate Mr Mark Dzira, who cited concerns that he might interfere with evidence.

Dlamini’s conviction relates to a fraud case involving a commercial stand valued at over USD 90,000, where he allegedly misrepresented his identity to the Victoria Falls City Council in order to obtain the property. He pretended to be Valentine Munyaradzi Maseko, despite having previously benefited from a land scheme, which contravened government directives.

According to the prosecution, Dlamini was supposed to pay a deposit of USD 25,000 for the stand, but he only paid USD 10,000, leaving a substantial balance. To cover the outstanding amount, he transferred ZW$7.5 million through a bank transfer. The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) uncovered this anomaly while investigating corruption suspicions in the city, resulting in Dlamini’s arrest. Mnangagwa Announces Return to Local Currency Amid Election Rigging Controversy

In a significant development, President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe has declared that the country will soon return to using its local currency, the condemned bond note dollar, as the sole legal tender. This arrangement is guaranteed until December 2025 under Statutory Instrument (SI) 118A of 2022.

Speaking at the official opening of the 2023 ZRP Senior Officers Conference in Harare this Wednesday, ZRP Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga said police will remain vigilant in dealing with malcontents without fear or favour.

“We remain alive to the fact that those who do not wish our country well are still pursuing the regime change agenda, so we remain vigilant as always. For this reason, let us remain focused, keeping our ears to the ground to ensure that we decisively deal with elements hell-bent on derailing our country’s progress. To this end, let us always stand ready to apprehend all those who flout the country’s laws without fear or favour,” he said.

Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister, Honourable Kazembe Kazembe noted the need for the police to decisively deal with all criminal activities as the nation targets an upper middle-income society by 2030.

“This workshop speaks of ZRP’s desire to deal with all criminal activities in the country. We must remain alive to the fact that iwe neni tinebasa. We have to work together in dealing with all criminals so that the government can achieve its desire of becoming an upper-middle-income society by 2030. But before I get into detail let me thank you for the job well done for assuring that the just-ended elections were peaceful. I want also to commend the Police for exposing fake abductions in our country,” he said.

The five-day conference, being attended by ZRP senior officers drawn from the country’s ten provinces, also noted the need for law enforcement agents to deal decisively with drug and substance abuse which is threatening national character.

According to section 187 of the constitution, a judge can only be removed from office for reasons such as the inability to perform the functions of the office due to mental or physical incapacity, gross incompetence, or gross misconduct.

Sub-section 3 of this constitutional provision mandates that if the JSC advises the President to investigate the removal of any judge, a tribunal must be appointed. This tribunal, in accordance with sub-section 4, must consist of at least three members, with specific qualifications and experience.

The tribunal’s responsibility is to inquire into the matter and subsequently report its findings to the President, along with a recommendation on whether or not the judge should be removed from office.

With these developments unfolding, the situation remains fluid and fraught with legal and ethical complexities. The timing of the $400,000 payment, coupled with Justice Chinhamora’s active lobbying for his position, adds layers of intrigue to an already contentious matter, casting a long shadow over the judicial system’s credibility.
