Why Mnangagwa Is Still In Power

National Patriotic Front (NPF) party spokesperson, Jealousy Mawarire has said President Emmerson Mnangagwa is not in power because the people “who installed him” still want him there.

Mawarire, a journalist and the executive director and founding trustee for the Centre for Elections and Democracy in Southern Africa (CEDSA) says the “kingmakers” may opt for Chiwenga, “nothing will stop them.”

He was responding to a Twitter post by one Jonathan Chirandu who had said, “With both Mnangagwa & his guardian Chiwenga having badly failed the leadership test, can we not say that a Chiwenga presidency is all but dead?”

In response, Mawarire said Mnangagwa was not elected based on competency. He said:

Was ED elected on the basis of ability that he can be judged to have failed? As long as those who installed him still want him there, he will stay & if they want Chiwenga instead, nothing will stop them, failure is the least of their concerns.

His remarks come as Zimbabwe is gearing for the 2023 harmonised elections amid concern that they might be disputed as violence is escalating.

There have been reports that security chefs have a stake in the ruling ZANU PF and government and have been pulling strings to determine the country’s leadership.

SA Load Shedding Cripples Beitbridge Border Operations

By- The load shedding currently experienced in South Africa has disrupted operations at the Beitbridge Border Post, resulting in delays and the formation of long queues spanning as far as 4km.

The South African reports that a loss of power at the border meant that passport documents “could not be scanned by officials”, causing a major backtrail.

Reports indicate that southbound cargo heading into South Africa on Tuesday remained stuck on the Zimbabwean side of the border, as equipment used to process these deliveries has also been badly affected.
Cars, trucks, and even people on foot are now being held-up at Beitbridge Border Post due to “network challenges”.
South Africa has been experiencing longer power cuts over the past few days, with the country’s power utility, Eskom, implementing Stage 6 on Sunday.

Operation Dudula Launches Fresh Attacks On Foreign Drivers

By-A South African xenophobic and Afro-phobic vigilante grouping, Operation Dudula has launched a fresh attack on foreign drivers in KwaZulu-Natal.

On Friday, these attacks came after a road traffic accident that killed 21 people in Pongola, northern KwaZulu-Natal.

A truck, which was being driven by an undocumented foreign national according to Operation Dudula, collided with a bakkie transporting schoolchildren on Friday, killing 19 pupils, a teacher’s assistant and the bakkie driver.

Operation Dudula provincial chairperson Mfanafuthi Dumakude on Sunday said the organisation will visit the families and seek to help where they can. Said Dumakide:

As Operation Dudula in the province, we want to get contact details of these families and the company (of the truck in the accident) and follow up on this matter.

From there we want to visit the families and see how we can make whatever donation to assist the families of the victims.

We have to make sure the company responsible for this accident must pay. If there are court cases to attend we will be there in support of the victims.

We can’t let this vanish in thin air like other similar incidents that were hot topics for a while and then died down later, as happened with people who killed others in Phoenix during the July 2021 unrest.

The truck driver reportedly fled after the accident before being arrested on Sunday.

Dumakude claimed the driver was an undocumented foreign national adding that the labour department should be challenged on this issue. He said:

It’s about time we, as an organisation that represents locals, look deeper into this and put pressure on the companies.

It’s one of the issues we want to fight, along with our alliance partners All Truck Drivers Forum in KwaZulu-Natal.

The driver, Sibusiso Siyaya (28) appeared in the Pongola Magistrates’ Court on 21 counts of culpable homicide.

He will remain in custody until his next appearance on Monday, 26 September for a bail application. | TimesLiveNews24

Top SA DJs Arrested In Bulawayo

By- South Africa Amapiano kingpins, Scorpion Kings evaded arrest in Bulawayo on Monday after a warrant of arrest had been issued over their non-appearance at the Victoria Falls Carnival.

The celebrated duo of Petrus Kabelo Motha (Kabza De Small) and Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe (Dj Maphorisa) together with songstress, Sha Sha, were billed to perform at the carnival in April this year but failed to turn up.

The organisers of the show who said they had incurred losses amounting to R414 147.00 demanded that the artists pay back the full booking fee, flights, and accommodation fees and apologise to fans for the incident.

However, the trio through Lawk Communications only committed themselves to refund only R230 000.

While the dispute was still to be finalised, the Scorpion Kings returned to Zimbabwe on Sunday and performed at the Boundary in Bulawayo later that day.

However, a court order dated 17 September, a day before they jetted into the country, had been issued by the Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Christopher Banda ordering that the celebrated music producers be arrested and “be safely kept until they are served with the summons against them by the High Court in Bulawayo for a claim in the sum of US$18 395.82”.
The alternative was that they provided security of the same amount to the Sheriff of the High Court.
The duo was initially meant to fly out of the country on Monday morning but were forced to reschedule their flight after police officers and the deputy Sheriff’s officers swooped in on them at the Holiday Inn.
They were rescued by the Bulawayo-based promoters, who roped in their lawyer, Zibusiso Ncube of Ncube and Partners to intervene in the matter.
They successfully raised the security and deposited it at the Sheriff of the High Court securing their passage back home.
Speaking to the media, Ncube confirmed that the duo had successfully paid the security fee and the matter will now proceed through the normal court process.
“There was an order of the court which attaches the persons of the two artists for some alleged claim from their previous appearance in Victoria Falls, there is a monetary dispute there. They are from outside the jurisdiction of this court and ordinarily, this court would not have the authority to deal with the matter,” said Ncube.
He added that since the duo did not have any movable property in the country the court had to arrest them and to avoid being arrested the duo were forced to pay the security fee.
After the drama had subsided, the duo who were in the company of their bookings manager Thuli Keupilwe, and their South African-based legal representative Katlego Malatji slipped out of the hotel just after 3 pm to Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport to catch their flight home. CITE

Court Hunts-Down Amputated Marry Chiwenga, Remands Her From Hospital Bed

By- The court has remanded Marry Mubaiwa to 31 October from her hospital bed.

Harare magistrate Learnmore Mapiwe remanded the ailing Marry on Tuesday in a case she is accused of assaulting her children’s maid.

Mubaiwa, who is Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s ex-wife, is battling a chronic illness and had her arm amputated last week and is still hospitalised.

Her lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa said that Mubaiwa was not fit to stand trial in her current state of health.

Prosecutors told the court that on 26 January 2020, the maid, Delight Munyoro, went to Hellenic Primary School in Borrowdale to collect Mubaiwa’s child.

It is further alleged that as Munyoro was waiting for the child at the gate, the family driver, Batsirayi Furukiya, went to collect the child and she remained seated in the vehicle.

When the driver was walking with the child to where the vehicle was parked, Mubaiwa allegedly followed behind him and started accusing Munyoro of telling her child not to like her.

It is alleged that Mubaiwa told Munyoro that she was a witch and slapped her on her left cheek using the back of her left hand as she was sitting in the car.

Several witnesses have so far testified in the matter, and Mubaiwa’s application for discharge was dismissed by the courts.

Mtetwa has on several occasions accused the State and the courts of receiving instructions from Chiwenga to persecute Mubaiwa. | NewsDay

State Puts Chamisa Under Surveillance For 24 Years

FIFA Bans Keita Balde

Senegal forward Keita Balde has been suspended from playing football until December 5 and could miss his country’s 2022 World Cup campaign.

Balde’s 90-day football ban comes after he violated protocols regarding anti-doping tests, an incident which occurred in April.

The winger was called to give a drugs test after Cagliari – the Italian side he left in the summer to join Russian outfit Spartak Moscow – lost 5-1 to Udinese in April.

The 27-year-old returned a negative result but in a statement on their website, Spartak confirmed the player had still been adjudged to have broken protocol and has consequently been suspended by the Italian National Anti-Doping Court.

The ban will come into effect now, meaning his suspension would rule him out until the quarterfinals of the World Cup.

Senegal play the Netherlands on November 21 in their opening Group A match. They also face hosts Qatar and Ecuador.

Balde has played 40 times for the Teranga Lions and was part of the team that won the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

LaLiga Condemns Racial Abuse Towards Vinicious Jr

LaLiga has condemned hate speech after some members of the Atletico fanbase chanted racist abuse towards Vinicius Jr outside their Metropolitano Stadium ahead of Sunday’s match against Real Madrid.

The supporters shouted the words, “You are a monkey, Vinicius you are a monkey” in a video published on social media just before Real’s 2-1 victory.

Local media also reported that monkey noises and chants of “Vinicius, die” were heard throughout the game.

The vile behavior came days after Vinicius was told to “respect rivals and stop playing the monkey” by Spanish agent Pedro Bravo after he celebrated scoring against Mallorca.

“We denounce all incidents inside and outside stadiums,” said a La Liga spokesperson. “We work with clubs to keep our football friendly and enjoyable.

“Hate speech has no place in La Liga and we always work with the clubs and the authorities to identify and bring to justice any such case.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Patients Safety

Medications are the most widely utilized interventions in health care, and medication-related harm constitutes the greatest proportion of the total preventable harm due to unsafe care, let alone the economic and psychological burden imposed by such harm.

Acknowledging this substantial burden and recognizing the complexity of medication-related harm prevention and reduction, “Medication Safety” has been selected as the theme for World Patient Safety Day 2022.

The campaign is envisaged to provide the needed impetus to consolidate the efforts of the existing WHO Global Patient Safety Challenge: Medication Without Harm, emphasizing the need to adopt a systems approach and promote safe medication practices to prevent medication errors and reduce medication-related harm. Special consideration will be given to areas where most harm occurs. The key action areas are high-risk situations, transitions of care, and polypharmacy.

The global landscape of health care is changing with health systems operating in increasingly complex environments. While new treatments, technologies and care models can have therapeutic potential, they can also pose new threats to safe care. Patient safety is a fundamental principle of health care and is now being recognized as a large and growing global public health challenge. Global efforts to reduce the burden of patient harm have not achieved substantial change over the past 15 years, despite pioneering work in some health care settings.

Patient safety is a framework of organized activities that creates cultures, processes, procedures, behaviours, technologies and environments in health care that consistently and sustainably lower risks, reduce the occurrence of avoidable harm, make error less likely and reduce its impact when it does occur.

Every point in the process of care-giving contains a certain degree of inherent unsafety.

Clear policies, organizational leadership capacity, data to drive safety improvements, skilled health care professionals and effective involvement of patients and families in the care process, are all needed to ensure sustainable and significant improvements in the safety of health care.

Wadyajena Admits Own Trucks Bought By Cottco Money But Pleads Innocence

Gokwe Nembudziya MP Justice Mayor Wadyajena has filed an application challenging his placement on remand with suspended executives of the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe on fraud and money laundering charges, saying there was no evidence linking him and his company to the offences. Wadyajena argues that Cottco has not raised any complaints against him and his company, Mayor Logistics, which is also being charged with fraud. Suspended Cottco bosses Pius Manamike, Maxmore Njanji, Fortunate Molai, Chiedza Danha and her company, Pierpoint Moncroix, are appearing in court on similar charges. They allegedly used US$5 834 000 meant for importing bale ties to import trucks, buy fuel and make an assortment of other payments that had nothing to do with the ties. Danha and her company, Pierpoint Moncroix, have also filed an application for refusal of further remand. Wadyajena and Mayor Logistics, who are represented by lawyer Mr Oliver Marwa, argued that the State failed to outline the role they played in committing the alleged offences. They were included in the remand hearing because some of the allegedly diverted money was used to buy 22 trucks that are now owned by Mayor Logistics. Wadyajena’s legal team argues that the State is saying the fraud took place within Cottco and was perpetrated by those working in Cottco. This, they further argue, means that there is no link to Wadyajena and his company. For the remand to stick, the State had to at least allege knowing association by Wadyajena and his company to deceive Cottco and that Wadyajena was present when the plan was hatched or when the fictitious purchase was carried out, they said. Wadyajena and his company said the State also failed to link them with Pierpoint Moncroix or how they could have influenced it into committing the alleged offence. “We have combed through the Form 242 but failed to notice any allegation to the effect that the 25 Freightliner trucks whose details are itemised were imported under the guise of a consignment of bale ties destined for the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe. “The State actually concedes that the trucks were correctly described as road tractors for semi-trailers in the consignment papers. Most importantly, there is no positive allegation that they were paid for by any money belonging to the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe”. Thus, Wadyajena argues, there was no connection between him and the company on one hand and the alleged business or deals of the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe and Giant Equipment, US-based truck supplier. It was also argued that the State did not allege that the shipment and purchase of the trucks was made from Cottco funds. Wadyajena said the allegations were “purely made with the calculated intention of improperly colouring the court’s mind and inducing public indignation” against him and Mayor Logistics. “This allegation is not capable of being proved at trial because it is patently false. It was meant to manufacture a non-existent link between the two applicants and the alleged criminal infractions at the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe.” Wadyajena and his company argued that the State’s allegations amount to a supply contract which was breached, which will render the case a civil matter. “The allegations seem to be that the bale ties that were ordered were not duly delivered. If the court agrees with this conception of the charges, it ought to find that there is no sufficient basis to have placed the accused on remand in the first place. This becomes a supply contract that was breached. It is a civil matter,” they said. Danha and her company, who are represented by lawyer Mr Harrison Nkomo, also filed their application for refusal of further remand arguing that the State failed to establish a link between them and Cottco, Mayor Logistics and Giant Equipment LLC, USA. They said it was unclear how Danha had direct control of Pierpoint Moncroix. Danha and her company also denied money laundering charges they are facing and claimed that they did not launder any proceeds of any crime, nor benefitted from the truck imports. The State led by Mr Lancelot Mutsokoti is yet to respond to the two applications. Meanwhile, reports circulating in parliament have accused the corruption-charged, Gokwe Nembudziya MP, Justice Wadyajena of paying both the Speaker, and the Clerk of Parliament. How can the Clerk ignore this Wadyajena matter and only respond to the one of Blinart?, a whistleblower asked ZimEye. Wadyajena cannot chair a committee when he has a case of corruption against him.

The Speaker and the Clerk were still to comment on the allegations at the time of writing.

Anonymous sources also alleged that ZANU PF Makoni South MP  Misheck Mataranyika (Vice Chairperson of the African Parliamentarians Network Against Corruption (APNAC) is one of the officials paid by Wadjajena, and this was after Mataranyika had published the following response:

Honourable Chairman, Sir.

The issue that you address in that press statement is an important issue that we would all want to see being handled fairly and concluded logically within the dictates of the standing rules and orders of Parliament of Zimbabwe and laws of Zimbabwe.

However, I have strong reservations when you take and express the position of APNAC unilaterally without consulting fellow members. In my humble view a meeting of the Committee should have been called up and the matter tabled for discussion before agreeing on the course of action including drafting of a press statement, if that is the agreed direction to be taken by the Committee.

The problem with taking unilateral action is that it is likely to lack ownership by members of the Committee, and that is not good governance of an organisation. Members, or majority of members, should identify with the position and/ or line of action taken by the organisation, something that has not been tested in this particular case. This reasoning applies to this case and any other case that may come before the APNAC Committee in future.

With all due respect, I therefore call upon you, Hon Chair, to withdraw the statement and urgently call for a meeting of the Committee to deliberate on the matter. This is the correct, professional and transparent manner of running any Committee business, APNAC included.

I have written this response to your purported press statement in my capacity as both, a bona fide member and Vice Chairman of APNAC Zimbabwe.

M.D. Mataranyika (Hon)
Vice Chairperson APNAC Zimbabwe.

SA Accuses Zimbabweans Of Dodging Border Documentation

By-South Africa’s Home Affairs Department said Zimbabweans intending to pass through the Beitbridge border post to Zimbabwe were not being blocked.

Last week there were reports that the new Border Management Authority guards in Musina, Limpopo, were blocking the travellers.

Reads the statement issued by the department in response to the reports:

Border Guards are doing access control duties at the Beitbridge Border Post and they direct the Zimbabweans wanting to go back to their home country to the relevant queues so that they can be documented in accordance with the Immigration Act. This means that they need to be fingerprinted and have their demographic details taken.

However, there are people who have refused to be documented on their departure. They believe that now that they are going back home, nobody needs to ask them any questions at our border.

Nobody will be allowed to just waltz through our border to and fro without being documented. There are no exceptions in this regard, whether you go through a land port, sea port or an airport. This is regardless of your nationality.

There is no way South Africa will refuse anybody from going back home. But similarly, South Africa can’t just allow anybody to move in and out of the country without it being recorded anywhere.

Mai TT Opens Up On Her Countless Love Affairs

By-Mai TT reckons she has always attracted thieves and crooks in her numerous love affairs.

Since she broke up with Tapiwa Mutikani, whom she accused of infecting her with HIV, Mai TT has entered into five high-profile relationships in less than ten years.

The men she romantically got involved with after Mutikani, are artist Zizoe Pamyk, Nigerian businessman Obina Ugwa, the white fellow known as Chime, Tinashe Maphosa – whom she is now accusing of defrauding her.

There was also another man, identified as Shepherd, who was believed to be a married man who was part of her love life.

With relationships, about six men at the last count, since she started sharing her love life in public, one could wonder if she has a love charm which attracts men.

She has claimed publicly why some of her relationships went sour; she plays the victim of being used and taken advantage of by her lovers.

She is on record saying Zizoe used her for fame, as he wanted to boost his musical career while Tinashe defrauded her.

The relationship with Obina could not last as the Nigerian man wanted Mai TT to conduct herself like a typical subservient and well-cultured African woman.

H-Metro reached out to Mai TT on why her relationships do not last.
She said her problem was that she attracted thieves, though she did not want to include Mutikani, among the thieves.
“I am attracting thieves. Don’t talk about Mutikani, he has nothing to do with this,” she said. H Metro.

Mnangagwa Not In Office Because Of Ability

Atletico Madrid Fans Insult Vinicious Jr

Real Madrid maintained their perfect start to the La Liga season after beating city rivals Atletico Madrid 2-1 at Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday.

The build-up to the encounter was marred by some members of the Atletico fanbase who chanted racist abuse towards Vinicius Jr.

The supporters shouted the words: “You are a monkey, Vinicius you are a monkey”.

The vile behavior came days after Vinicius was told to “respect rivals and stop playing the monkey” by Spanish agent Pedro Bravo after he celebrated scoring against Mallorca.

But the chants failed to kill Los Blancos’ spirit and the visitors controlled the proceedings in the first half, thanks to two goals from Rodrygo and Fede Valverde.

Rodrygo netted the opener in the 18th minute after linking up well with Aurélien Tchouameni.

Valverde doubled the cushion on minute 36 after mopping home a rebound.

The second half saw little goalmouth action with both sides failing to come clear at goal.

However, Atletico did find the passage later on and pulled one back through Mario Hermoso.

The defender, who had come in as a substitute, connected Antoine Griezmann’s corner kick in 83rd minute.

Hermoso went from hero to zero just moments later after picking up his second yellow card in three minutes .

Real Madrid managed to hold old and picked maximum points at Wanda Metropolitano, courtesy of the 2-1 victory.

Power Cuts Hit Country’s Mortuaries

Rolling power cuts being experienced across the country have severely affected operations of the country’s hospitals with reports that mortuaries are struggling to contain decomposing bodies.

Zimbabwe has endured acute power cuts for over a decade, while last week, the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) warned of more severe load-shedding because of poor generation.

Health institutions are among the most affected by the crisis because of lack of funding for alternative power sources such as solar or generators.

NewsDay is reliably informed that morticians at Manicaland province’s biggest hospital, Victoria Chitepo Hospital are struggling to deal with dead bodies with its only functioning mortuary being overwhelmed with rotting bodies.

The other mortuary at the institution has been out of commission for months.

There was chaos at the hospital early this month following the death of six people in a horrific collision involving two Honda Fit vehicles in the border city.

Reports indicate that some of the rotting bodies were left lying on the floor.

Sources at the hospital confirmed the development to NewsDay yesterday saying the hospital was failing to maintain its mortuaries made worse by the current power cuts.

Latest On Mnangagwa, Musengezi Battle

Sybeth Musengezi who filed a High Court case challenging President Emmerson Mnangagwa‘s legitimacy says his life is in danger as he constantly receives death threats over the case.

Musengezi who claims to be a ZANU PF youth member is challenging the ascendancy of President Mnangagwa to the leadership of the party in 2017 following the demise of the late veteran leader Robert Mugabe saying the rise was unconstitutional.

He filed his challenge last year, but Mnangagwa’s lawyers have been pressing him to drop the High Court case while some ZANU PF activists promised to take unspecified action against him.

Musengezi last month filed another urgent High Court application seeking to stop Mnangagwa from calling and presiding over ZANU PF’s elective congress slated for October before the case he brought before the court is finalised.

Mnangagwa from calling and presiding over ZANU PF’s elective congress slated for October before the case he brought before the court is finalised.

Sources in the party believe Musengezi is a product of an alleged alliance between former G40 members and Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga in a bid to frustrate Mnangagwa’s bid to contest in 2023 elections, allegations which Musengezi has refuted.

Musengezi told NewsDay on Sunday that death threats escalated ahead of the court sitting on Wednesday this week.

He said:
“Yes, in recent weeks, I’ve seen a number of unmarked vehicles parked just outside of my yard. Sometimes they park when I’m not there and my colleagues would call me to say there is a vehicle or vehicles without plates parked at home.

I personally confronted those people and they just drive off. I can’t really say I’m safe because I don’t know what these people are up to, but if anything is to happen to me, obviously it is people linked to the case.

I have received threats since I launched the legitimacy application last year, with people trying to intimidate me to withdraw and at one point, was arrested and detained for 10 days on a spurious charge to try and force me to withdraw the matter.

So, after realising that threats and detention have failed, they have resorted to intimidation tactics.”- NewsDay

The State has simply become an arena of personal aggrandizement & looting,” Hon Biti argued.

Pasuwa Fails To Break Champions League Hoodoo

Callisto Pasuwa’s Nyasa Big Bullets failed to progress to the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League following a 4-0 aggregate loss against Simba SC of Tanzania.

Bullets succumbed to a 2-0 slump in the return fixture played on Sunday in East Africa, having lost with a similar margin at home last week.

The aggregate result marked another unsuccessful run for the Zimbabwean gaffer in the interclub competition.

The Malawian champions have never passed the first round of the tournament under the former Warriors international.

Pasuwa also had four unsuccessful runs with Dynamos in the Champions League, failing to reach the group stage on all occasions.

Medication Safety

Tinashe Sambiri|CCC vice president Hon Tendai Biti has said the Zanu PF administration is an arena of thieves.

Hon Biti took a swipe at Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa for failing to stop rampant corruption and looting of State resources.

Mr Mnangagwa is blessing looters and thieves, according to Hon Biti.

“Fact is all public institutions in Zimbabwe have become major portals of extraction , rent behavior & corruption .

The State has simply become an arena of personal aggrandizement & looting,” Hon Biti argued.

Musengezi Intensifies Battle Against Emmerson Mnangagwa

Organisation Reports Mnangagwa To Motlanthe Over Yet To Be Implemented Commission Recommendations

Zimbabwean human rights organisations under the Crisis in Zimbabwe banner have engaged former South African president Kgalema Motlanthe, raising questions and seeking global support in dealing with the never-ending crisis that could have been solved with the implementation of recommendations by a 2018 commission.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, in the aftermath of the bloody 1 August 2018 shootings of unarmed civilians by the military, appointed a commission then chaired by Motlanthe that made several recommendations that have been largely ignored four years on.

The recommendations included that those soldiers involved in the killing of six unarmed civilians be held accountable but, to date, nothing has happened to them.

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition chairperson Peter Mutasa confirmed engaging Motlanthe and other regional leaders to push Mnangagwa to implement the commission’s report.

Mutasa, on behalf of over 80 organisations under the Crisis in Zimbabwe banner, said there was a need for intervention to ensure the implementation of the report.

Motlanthe led South Africa following the departure of Thabo Mbeki from the political scene.

The commission had National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) leader Lovemore Madhuku as a member and also included lawyer Vimbai Nyemba, Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Rwanda Charity Manyeruke and others from different countries as members.

The organisation said it was a concern that four years later, Mnangagwa has continued to ignore the recommendation of the Motlanthe Commission while the country continues on a path of lawlessness and human rights violations.

“As the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition, we are deeply concerned over the lack of political will by the Zimbabwean government to implement recommendations of the Motlanthe Commission of Inquiry following the August 1, 2018 army shootings,” Mutasa told The NewsHawks this week.

Mutasa said what has become clear of Mnangagwa’s failure to act is his lack of sincerity in addressing issues raised by the commission.

It is becoming clear that when he instituted the Monthlante Commission, President Mnangagwa was simply playing politics and trying to give a picture of a government that was willing to reform. We have thus engaged His Excellency Kgalema Motlanthe highlighting our concerns over the non-implementation of the recommendations of the Motlanthe Commission of Inquiry,” Mutasa added.

“It is very unfortunate that almost four years after the commission gave its recommendations to the Zimbabwean government, we continue to witness consolidation of authoritarian rule and militarisation of key state institutions as well as the failure to implement reforms that will pave the way for credible polls.”

“The Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition will continue to seek regional as well as global support in light of the continued closure of democratic and civic space in Zimbabwe. President Mnangagwa’s engagement and re-engagement drive should be anchored on genuine reforms back home. He must walk the talk.”

Zimbabwe has also ignored security sector reforms, electoral reforms, dialogue among other critical recommendations by the commission.

Observers said failure to implement the recommendations by the Monthlante commission will likely lead to another bloody and disputed 2023 elections.

The commission also recommended for those involved in the killing of innocent civilians should be held accountable and allow justice to take its course.

No information has been availed on whether the involved soldiers were punished or not with former Presidential Guard commander Anselem Sanyatwe now Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Tanzania.

Another recommendation from the Motlanthe Commission was the setting up of a “genuine” multi-stakeholder dialogue platform that would have seen the two biggest political rivals engage in talks.

Mnangagwa claims to have met this recommendation by putting up the Political Actors’ Dialogue (Polad) platform that has been snubbed by Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa, who described it as an aimless monologue.

CCC To Report Mnangagwa To Parly Over Sikhala Bail Denial

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) plans to lobby Parliament over government’s alleged failure to restore  the rule of law, claiming that the democratic space continues to shrink in the country ahead of the 2023 elections.

This follows an incident where CCC leader Nelson Chamisa’s motorcade survived a suspected petrol bomb attack in Chinhoyi while hosting a thank you rally last weekend.

The latest planned lobbying also comes after the courts have denied CCC’s Job Sikhala and Godfrey Sithole as well as 13 CCC activists from Nyatsime bail, a case that has attracted global attention.

“To this end, the CCC is calling for the return to constitutionalism, rule of law, and democratic practice. Our parliamentarians are going to be critical in pushing this envelope particularly to make sure that we advance the principles and values and issues that are raised by ordinary people,” CCC deputy spokesperson Ostallos Siziba said on Wednesday while addressing a Press conference.

“Parliament is going to be a very important zone of our citizens struggle to attempt to resolve some of the crises involving executive tyranny which is basically the control of the executive contrary to the provisions of the Constitution which provides for separation of powers and the current situation we see the dominance of the Executive without such powers provided for by the Constitution.”

Last month election watchdogs such as the Election Resource Centre raised the red flag over the Gokwe-Kabuyuni parliamentary by-election which was characterised by violence.

Political analysts have predicted that next year’s elections will be bloodier. Civic society organisations and the main opposition CCC have implored the United Nations to monitor 2023 polls.

“The visible characteristics of this crisis are continued political repression and of course attack on the members of the democratic contingent, the closure of democratic space, subversion of the Constitution and fundamental rights and freedoms, and the high cost of living,” Siziba added.

“It is, therefore, clear that Zanu-PF as the ruling establishment has absolutely failed to run this country, to resolve the economic crisis facing ordinary people to show care and to show love and necessary dignity that our people deserve as per the provisions of the Constitution.”

Earlier this year Zimbabwe’s human rights record came under the spotlight during a UN Human Rights Council Universal Periodic Review meeting recently.

Member States made extensive recommendations to improve the country’s human rights situation.

Government is yet to implement the recommendations.

Ugly Fights As Zanu PF Central Committee Elections Beckon

Factional fights have erupted in the ruling Zanu PF party ahead of elections for central committee members slated for this weekend.

The central committee is the principal and highest decision-making body of the party, and officials have opened the floor for aspiring members to submit CVs for vetting, with elections to be held on Saturday.

On Friday, the last day of submission, there was a last-minute rush by aspiring candidates to submit CVs.

Zanu PF national political commissar Mike Bimha recently issued a circular on set minimum qualifications for participation in the elections.

A party insider said they had set traditional conditions for one to take part in the central committee elections.

“The central committee can make the drastic decisions of the party and have the power to change the national leadership of the party by calling for a congress unlike all organs of the party. They have set conditions of at least 15 years serving in the party and at least five years in the provincial executive. If you have served at least 15 years in the party you might have a better appreciation of the party,” the source said.

In Manicaland sources, who spoke to this publication, said former Agriculture minister Joseph Made, former finance minister Patrick Chinamasa, former Information minister Christopher Mushohwe, and former local government deputy minister, Christopher Chingosho could fall by the wayside. The quartet will be eager to make it into the top four in the (Makoni) district where Information Communication Technology minister Jenfan Muswere and Shadreck Chipanga are ruling the roost.

“In Makoni district, there is a bid to inject new blood with the likes of Muswere and Chipanga expected to be elected into the central committee, and we are aware that Chingosho is being frustrated,” an official said.

Judge Harassing Me

Women’s Comfort Corner Foundation (WCCF) director Rita Mbatha has written to the secretary of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Walter Chikwana alleging threats and harassment by a top judge, Justice Catherine Bachi-Mzawazi.
Mbatha complained to Chikwana alleging that Justice Bachi-Mzawazi was trying to force her to consent to set aside a judgment under Case Number HC49862014.

Under the case, Mbatha was awarded US$180 000 by the High Court after she lost her job for reporting her former boss for sexual harassment in a nearly 20-year legal battle.

Mbatha reported former Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) chief executive Farai Bwatikona Zizhou for sexual harassment when she worked as his personal assistant between 2002 and 2003.

The CZI responded by sacking her. In passing judgment last year, Justice Joseph Mafusire said Mbatha’s victory had come through “blood and sweat”.

In a letter dated September 16, 2022, in possession of NewsDay, Mbatha alleged that the judgment infuriated Justice Bachi-Mzawazi.

“She alleged that the judgment was irrational and that Zizhou deserved a second chance and did not deserve to lose property because of a minor infraction and I should, instead, pursue CZI, which had ignored the reports of sexual harassment. I was shocked and called out the judge and told her that it was not proper to make such averments or to invite me in chambers without the applicant present.

“She then alleged that Deputy Chief Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza and the Judge President of the High Court told her she was not the first judge whom I had complained about and that I was wasting my time writing complaints to the JSC as nothing would materialise therefrom,” the letter read.

Mbatha also accused the judge of being conflicted because she was offering legal advice to Zizhou.

“I also told Justice Bachi-Mzawazi that I was aware that she was legally advising Zizhou,” Mbatha said in the complaint.

After refusing to consent to the setting aside of the judgment, Mbatha alleges the judge started to harass and intimidate her.

“She changed from trying to persuade me to being hostile, began shouting at me alleging that I was intent on tarnishing her image. She began shouting in chambers alleging that I had made the same allegations against Supreme Court judges, this time without mentioning names.

“It is Justice Bachi-Mzawazi through her misconduct, conduct unbefitting a judge that has displayed that there is no justice, but an abundance of corruption in the (judicial) system. By her conduct, she has committed breaches of judicial ethics as articulated in the code,” the letter further read.

Allegations against Justice Bachi-Mzawazi come at a time when the Judiciary is under the spotlight for corruption and defeating the course of justice. —Newsday

Fake Products Hit City

A new crop of ‘entrepreneurs’ has invaded Bulawayo’s marketplaces where they sell fake branded products to unsuspecting consumers in broad daylight.

In essence, the traders pretend to sell popular brands at discounted prices, but are really offering low-quality counterfeit products at a profit. They have become notorious for putting fake stickers on products that they will be selling.

Notable products include baked beans, dishwashing liquids and deodorants.

It seems some of the products are smuggled into the country and find their way to markets that sell products at a cheaper price compared to supermarkets, thereby attracting a lot of shoppers.

For customers who know a product’s attributes, the problem starts when they are home when it is time for consumption.

A Chronicle news crew visited the marketplace and spoke to some people who throng the markets and they raised the red flag on the fake branded products.

Mrs Sihle Mlotshwa said she recently bought a tin of baked bins branded “Koo” when it was actually not a genuine product.

“I bought a tin of baked beans branded ‘Koo’, but to my shock when I opened it, the contents were completely different. I usually buy this product because I know the original taste of these beans,” she said.

“The most painful part is that they would have sold a substandard product at a high cost.”

Another consumer, who declined to be named, said selling fake brands is a risky enterprise, which also compromises health particularly for people with allergies.

“You can imagine buying something that you are allergic to without knowing. These traders are putting people’s lives at risk simply because they want to make quick money,” he said.

Mr Moffat Ndlovu who also fell prey to the scam, said he bought his “favourite” deodorant, which had a fake label.

“When l started using it, I developed some rash on my armpits and I had to visit a doctor. I have also noticed that some of the body lotions that these people sell would be half full,” he said.

The news crew also caught up with Ms Elizabeth Ndebele who was equally dismayed after falling into the same predicament.

“I bought a dish washing liquid which had a ‘Sunlight’ sticker, but what surprised me was that upon using it, it was not as thick as it was supposed to be. I went back to the seller and she claimed that she had also bought the products from South Africa,” she said.

“If customers receive a fake product of poor quality and do not realise it is a copy; it will undermine the brand’s reputation. If they realise it is a fake it will create uncertainty in the market and people will be reluctant to buy the product.”

A trader at the marketplace, Ms Lindiwe Nyoni admitted that there are some vendors who dupe customers.

“It is unfortunate that we have some people among ourselves who resort to unethical ways of doing business, which we do not condone as traders. However, in some cases, we would have bought these products from our suppliers who would have tampered with the stickers,” she said.

Bulawayo Vendors and Traders Association (BVTA) executive director Mr Michael Ndiweni said: “I doubt traders are involved in these malpractices because getting the stickers for those brands means one needs to have machines to print them out in large quantities of which most vendors don’t have that capacity.”

Consumer Council of Zimbabwe regional manager for Matabeleland region, Mr Comfort Muchekeza said selling fake products is tantamount to fraud and leads to prosecution of offenders.

“We are all guided by the laws of the country. It is clearly stated that anyone who is found guilty of violating a section of Consumer Protection Act is liable to a fine or imprisonment not less than three months,” he said.

“Those involved in selling such products should be reported to the police. This is tantamount to fraud and when you misinform consumers with regards to the nature and price of the goods.”

Mr Ndiweni, however, said as an organisation they will conduct their own investigations. Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said no report has been made so far regarding the matter. –Chronicle

Were Speaker And Clerk Of Parliament Bribed To Defend Wadyajena?

By A Correspondent | Reports circulating in parliament have accused the corruption-charged, Gokwe Nembudziya MP, Justice Wadyajena of paying both the Speaker, and the Clerk of Parliament.

The Speaker and the Clerk were still to comment on the allegations at the time of writing.

CIO Operatives Attack American Diplomates

By James Gwati- Diplomatic relations between Harare and Washington DC are at crossroads after President Emerson Mnangagwa’s administration unleashed members of the dreaded Central Intelligence Organisation, CIO on two visiting US senate aides.

In a story published by the US online news portal, foreignpolicy.com, members of the CIO filmed and later trailed two visiting American senate aides. The two diplomats were conducting a meeting with an unnamed human rights activist at a restaurant in the capital.

 Below is the story:

On a late morning in mid-August, two U.S. Senate aides were sitting at an outdoor cafe in Harare, Zimbabwe, with a civil society activist, when someone approached them with a warning.

They were being tailed and filmed by another man in the cafe, whom the spotter suspected was a member of the Zimbabwean government’s security services.

The two aides work for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and were on an official visit to the southern African country organized in concert with the U.S. Embassy to meet with human rights advocates and other civil society leaders and hear first-hand accounts of Zimbabwe’s deteriorating political and human rights situation under President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

They requested meetings with the Zimbabwean government, most of which were declined.

After departing their meeting with the activist, they got into a U.S. Embassy vehicle, one of a fleet of clearly marked American government cars with diplomatic plates driven by an embassy staffer.

They were driving away when several cars slotted into the road in front of them, to the side, and behind them. Suddenly, their car was boxed in.

At one point, according to one official briefed on the matter, they tried to call the U.S. Embassy for help, but their phones all lost reception, apparently simultaneously.

They were on their own. After a tense standoff, as the phalanx of cars crawled along the road, the driver of the U.S. Embassy car saw an opening and swerved onto a side road to escape the tail.

They rushed back to the U.S. Embassy compound before the pursuing cars could intercept them.

From there, the U.S. Embassy worked to quickly ferry the two Senate staffers out of the country without further incident.

The ordeal, described to Foreign Policy by four current and former U.S. officials familiar with the matter, stunned U.S. diplomats and left them questioning what would have happened to the two Senate aides had the embassy vehicle not been able to make its escape.

All officials spoke on condition of anonymity, as they were not authorized to speak on the matter publicly.

The officials, who suspected Zimbabwean security services orchestrated the entire incident, said it underscored the increasingly brazen tactics of Mnangagwa’s government to suppress and intimidate political opponents and civil society activists as he strengthens his grip on power ahead of national elections next year.

However, all of the officials cautioned that they couldn’t say with certainty who followed the staffers and chased the U.S. Embassy car.

The incident incensed U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, who sent a letter to President Joe Biden informing him of the harassment and car chase his staffers experienced.

In the letter, he urged Biden to step up U.S. attention on the “dire” repressive political atmosphere in Zimbabwe and boost support for the country’s increasingly embattled civil society organizations and pro-democracy activists.

“This blatant aggression towards congressional staff, one of whom—as the Zimbabweans surely know served as a senior advisor to you for many years when you were Chairman and Ranking Member of the Foreign Relations Committee—was meant to intimidate the staff themselves, and to send a message to the United States: our support of Zimbabweans working to defend democracy is unwelcome by those who hold power,” Menendez wrote in his letter to Biden dated Sept. 12, a copy of which was obtained by Foreign Policy. Menendez did not name the two staffers in his letter.

“Such outrageous behavior highlights the Zimbabwean regime’s reckless disregard for international norms. If American officials are deliberately targeted, you can well imagine the violence that will be directed to Zimbabweans who dare to criticize the government.”

Menendez in his letter pushed Biden to bring up the political situation in Zimbabwe with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa during their scheduled meeting at the White House on Friday. Menendez’s office did not offer additional comment on the matter.

City Shoot To EPL Summit

Manchester City Saturday beat Wolves by three goals to nil to leap above Arsenal on the log table. Arsenal have a game in hand and can still reclaim the spot if they win against Brentford tomorrow.

Haaland scored City’s second to bring his Premier League goal tally to 11 in seven games. The Norway international who was named the Player of the Month of August became the first player in Premier League history to score in their first four away games.

Wolves’ Collins saw a straight red card after a reckless challenge on Grealish, which certainly did not help Wolves’ attempt to get back into the game.

Despite the home side looking brighter in the second half, City were just too good, and they scored a third through Foden.

Jordan Zemura has registered his first goal assist in the English Premier League.

The Warriors international set up Phillip Billing, who opened the scoring in the game against Newcastle.

Zemura threaded a through ball into the box after a quick build up and Billing made no mistake in putting it past the keeper.

The assist is Zemura’s first goal involvement for the club since April when the team was still in the English Championship.

The 23-year-old has so far made six appearances in the top-flight. He made his league debut on matchday one against Aston Villa.

The young fullback joined Villa midfielder Marvelous Nakamba, ex-Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari, Peter Ndlovu (Birmingham City) and Bruce Grobbelaar (Liverpool) as the only fully-capped Warriors internationals to play in the EPL.

Zemura also became the sixth Cherries academy graduate to represent the club in the top flight, following in the footsteps of Baily Cargill, Matt Worthington, Jack Simpson, Sam Surridge and Mark Travers.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Facts About Basic Hygiene

Half of health care facilities worldwide lack basic hygiene services with water and soap or alcohol-based hand rub where patients receive care and at toilets in these facilities, according to the latest Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP) report by WHO and UNICEF.

Around 3.85 billion people use these facilities, putting them at greater risk of infection, including 688 million people who receive care at facilities with no hygiene services at all.

“Hygiene facilities and practices in health care settings are non-negotiable.

Their improvement is essential to pandemic recovery, prevention and preparedness. Hygiene in health care facilities cannot be secured without increasing investments in basic measures, which include safe water, clean toilets, and safely managed health care waste,” said Dr Maria Neira, WHO Director, Department of Environment, Climate Change and Health.

“I encourage Member States to step up their efforts to implement their 2019 World Health Assembly commitment to strengthen water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services in health care facilities, and to monitor these efforts.”

The latest report, “Progress on WASH in health care facilities 2000–2021: special focus on WASH and infection prevention and control”, has for the first time established this global baseline on hygiene services – which assessed access at points of care as well as toilets – as more countries than ever report on critical elements of WASH services in their hospitals and other health centres. For hygiene, data are now available for 40 countries, representing 35% of the world’s population, up from 21 countries in 2020 and 14 in 2019.

The newly established global estimate reveals a clearer and more alarming picture of the state of hygiene in health care facilities. Though 68% of health care facilities had hygiene facilities at points of care, and 65% had handwashing facilities with water and soap at toilets, only 51% had both and therefore met the criteria for basic hygiene services. Furthermore, 1 in 11 (9%) of health care facilities globally have neither.

“If health care providers don’t have access to a hygiene service, patients don’t have a health care facility,” said Kelly Ann Naylor, UNICEF Director of WASH and Climate, Environment, Energy, and Disaster Risk Reduction (CEED).

“Hospitals and clinics without safe water and basic hygiene and sanitation services are a potential death trap for pregnant mothers, newborns, and children. Every year, around 670 000 newborns lose their lives to sepsis. This is a travesty – even more so as their deaths are preventable.”

The report notes that contaminated hands and environments play a significant role in pathogen transmission in health care facilities and the spread of antimicrobial resistance.

Interventions to increase access to handwashing with water and soap and environmental cleaning form the cornerstone of infection prevention and control programmes and are crucial to providing quality care, particularly for safe childbirth.
Coverage of WASH facilities is still uneven across different regions and income groupings:

Facilities in sub-Saharan Africa are lagging on hygiene services. While three-quarters (73%) of health care facilities in the region overall have alcohol-based hand rub or water and soap at points of care, only one-third (37%) have handwashing facilities with water and soap at toilets.

The vast majority (87%) of hospitals have hand hygiene facilities at points of care, compared to 68% of other healthcare facilities.
In the Least Developed Countries, only 53% of health care facilities have access on-premises to a protected water source.

To compare, the global figure is 78% with hospitals (88%) doing better than smaller health care facilities (77%), and the figure for eastern and south-eastern Asia is 90%. Globally, around 3% of health care facilities in urban areas and 11% in rural areas had no water service.

Of the countries with available data, 1 in 10 health care facilities globally had no sanitation service.

The proportion of health care facilities with no sanitation services ranged from 3% in Latin America and the Caribbean and in eastern and south-eastern Asia to 22% in sub-Saharan Africa. In the Least Developed Countries, just 1 in 5 (21%) had basic sanitation services in health care facilities.
The data further reveals that many health care facilities lack basic environmental cleaning and safe segregation and disposal of health care waste.
The report is being launched at World Water Week taking place in Stockholm, Sweden.

The annual conference, which runs from 23 August to 1 September, explores new ways to tackle humanity’s greatest challenges: from food security and health to agriculture, technology, biodiversity and climate.

New Technology Way To Go In Business

Business Correspondent

ZimAdsense offers a unique platform for advertisers and publishers to market promote their business concerns.

ZimAdsense works like the famous Google AdSense.

Below is a statement written by Startupbiz on ZimAdsense operations :

So this is for those who want to make money by having ads placed on their websites or blogs.

You start by signing up for a publisher account. You simply follow the prompts and fill in all the relevant information. Once you are done you will be redirected to your dashboard.

Next, you click on Manage Domain, then Add Domain. You add your website URL making sure it is the actual one you are using. If you use a different format, the ads will not display.

You will proceed to add keywords and then Save Changes. The next thing will be to verify you are the real owner of the website. You start that process by clicking the green tick below the Action tab. You must click on Download followed by uploading the .txt file to your Cpanel. When you are done you click on Verify Now. It will usually take anything between a day and 5 days for approval.

Once approved you can go to Advertisements and copy the ad types you want by clicking on Copy Script.

You will then paste them where you want them to appear on your website. It takes at most about 10 minutes before the ads start showing on your website. When everything goes live you are ready to make money; you can withdraw every Friday.

ZimAdsense looks like a good idea and we are hopeful that they are here to stay.

I recently spoke to one of the guys behind the ZimAdSense brand. He indicated that one can make around US$5 daily with daily traffic of at least 500.

You can check out more information on their website.
