Arrested Masvingo MDC Alliance members to appear in court today.

18 January 2021

Wezhira Munya

Yesterday, Masvingo Criminal Investigation Department police officers arrested ward 4 member Mr Alec Tabe, ward 4 coordinator and Masvingo youth provincial member Ms Alaika Time.

Tabe and Nerupandai slept in police cells and will appear in Masvingo Magistrate court today at 9am.

Advocate Martin Mureri said, “Yes, l can confirm that Tabe and Nerupandai were arrested yesterday and slept in the cells at Masvingo Central police station. They will appear in court today at 9am.”

The police are accusing Tabe and Nerupandai for organizing ward 4 MDC Alliance meeting violating COVID-19 regulations.

It seems MDC Alliance led by President Chamisa is a banned organisation.

MDC Alliance members are subjected to ill-treatment from police. Interestingly, Tabe and Nerupandai have been arrested after Mnangagwa proclaimed 26th March 2022 as day for by elections. MDC Alliance members are not allowed to campaign.

Contrary, Zanu PF had violent provincial meeting yesterday at Great Zimbabwe University Education Campus in industrial site. No Zanu PF member was arrested , as Chadzamira and Mavhenyengwa faction fight each other yesterday.

On saturday last week, MDC T in Masvingo held their meeting to select candidates and no one was arrested.

MDC T led by Mwonzora and Zanu PF are being treated with kind gloves by police.

Tabe is represented by advocate Mafa and Nerupandai is represented by advocate Martin Mureri.

The intricate web of totems links us. Now, should I shun that because of politics? No.

Mliswa and Zivhu are both Zanu PF critics but claim they are fully behind Mnangagwa’s “vision”. Added Mliswa:

As for Zanu PF, as a party, it’s clear that it has lost itself and in its current state, it is a rogue entity that is going against the principles of the liberation struggle.

It has been hijacked by a lot of mafikizolos who have no DNA of the party. The Zanu PF I belonged to stuck to the founding principles of the struggle.

Chitungwiza Municipality Destroys Vending Stalls

By- Chitungwiza Municipality has started demolishing what it called illegal vending stalls across the town.

The municipality said they are doing this to clean up Harare Metropolitan province.

The local authority is accusing MDC-led councils, whose officials have over the years, for what it said was turning a blind eye on the mess.

Municipal police were at the weekend leading the demolitions while armed Zimbabwe Republic Police officers were on standby in case of violent clashes.
The demolished structures were in Makoni Shopping Centre, Zengeza 2 along Hombarume Road, Unit L and C-Junction.
While some had heeded a council ultimatum issued last Friday and removed their wares and illegal structures, others remained defiant and lost valuables.
At Makoni Shopping Centre, among the demolished structures was a container situated opposite Chicken Inn which had been divided into shops.
A few metres from the container, some traders whose structures were demolished, could be seen removing valuables such as metal sheets for reuse.
Chitungwiza acting town clerk Mrs Evangelista Machona at the weekend said the demolitions were targeting all illegal structures especially along road servitudes. Herald

Rape Accused Prophet Skips Bail

By- Self proclaimed Prophet, Samuel Guta of Power of Unity in Christ Church, who is on trial for rape, is believed to be on the run.

Judgment in the case was set to be handed down last week. However, the accused did not turn up for the court proceedings.
Guta had been remanded to appear in court on January 7, by the magistrate Gloria Takundwa.
But, he didn’t turn up, prompting her to issue a warrant of arrest.
Guta is accused of raping a 22-year-old congregant during a prayer and cleansing session.
The self-styled prophet denied the allegations.
He claimed she had been in the habit of luring him to bed and would complain that her husband was no longer satisfying her desires.
The State, led by Cecilia Mashingaidze, said on January 7, 2021, Guta allegedly called the woman for a cleansing ceremony at a certain mountain, between Riverside and Churu farms, near Harare.
It is alleged he told the woman to bring three lemons to the mountain so that he could also pray for her three-year-old child.
The court heard that the woman went to the mountain with her child.
Guta allegedly told her to return the child home since they were likely to delve into ‘sensitive matters’ with her.
It is alleged the woman complied and returned her baby. It later started raining and Guta invited the woman into a tent.
The woman is said to have initially refused but Guta threatened not to help her unless she got into the tent.
Guta allegedly took a lemon, prayed and gave the woman a piece to eat while he ate the other piece.
The court heard that Guta asked the woman to rub a piece of lemon under her feet and chest.
The woman is said to have suddenly lost consciousness only to wake up to find herself without her undergarments.
Guta allegedly told the woman that evil spirits had removed her clothes upon manifestation.
He allegedly prayed for the woman again and she fell unconscious, for the second time, after which she woke up to find him raping her.
The accused prayed for the complainant for the third time, and she again lost consciousness and woke up lying face down, without clothes.
She asked the accused what had happened and Guta told her that an evil spirit had come out of her.
He claimed she had removed her clothes while she was manifesting. The woman informed her aunt who reported the matter to the police.

Tinashe Sambiri|The Warriors’ woeful performance at the AFCON Tournament in Cameroon emanates from Zanu PF bungling, MDC Alliance vice president Hon Tendai Biti has said.

The Warriors lost 0- 1 to Senegal and fell 1- 2 against the Flames Malawi.

It boggles the mind , why MDC Alliance members are arrested when they are doing party programs.

Teenager Runs Over Minor After Stealing Car Keys

By A Correspondent- A Bulawayo teenager is in trouble after he stole car keys belonging to a visitor at his residence and drove the vehicle before running over a juvenile while trying to reverse.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the matter to NewsDay last Thursday.

“On January 12, a 16 year old boy was reversing a vehicle with Botswana registration numbers belonging to a male adult who had come to visit some of the people staying at his house in Entumbane. While he was reversing, an 11 year old boy from the same house tried to get into the vehicle while it was in motion. He slipped and fell and was crushed to death by the vehicle,” Ncube said.

He said the boy who was driving without a license is now assisting police with investigations.

Ncube advised parents to desist from leaving car keys at the reach of children.

Ward 10, Entumbane councillor Sinikiwe Mutanda said she heard that the owner of the vehicle had come to visit another tenant who uses another room different from the one used by the boy.

Mahere Blasts Mwonzora

Tinashe Sambiri| MDC Alliance spokesperson Advocate Fadzayi Mahere has blasted Mr Douglas Mwonzora for attempting to confuse the electorate by peddling falsehoods.

Mahere also described Mwonzora as a man with a “chameleon character.”

Mwonzora is shifting goalposts to please his handlers, according to political analysts.

  1. You said the MDCA was a party before the 2018 election
  2. After your 2020 judgment, you said the MDCA no longer existed cause the Alliance agreement had lapsed
  3. You recalled MPs for belonging to the MDCA
  4. Now you claim to be the MDCA!

Why do you lie so much?

Mwonzora responded :
“This God you talk about is not for you and your colleagues alone Fadzie. He is my God too. Fortunately He is a just God.”

Cervical Cancer Elimination

Cervical cancer is preventable and curable, as long as it is detected early and managed effectively.

Yet it is the fourth most common form of cancer among women worldwide, with the disease claiming the lives of more than 300 000 women in 2018.

Few diseases reflect global inequities as much as cancer of the cervix. Nearly 90% of the deaths in 2018 occurred in low- and middle-income countries. This is where the burden of cervical cancer is greatest, because access to public health services is limited and screening and treatment for the disease have not been widely implemented.

An ambitious, concerted and inclusive strategy has been developed to guide the elimination of cervical cancer as a public health problem.

A global strategy
In May 2018, the WHO Director-General announced a global call for action to eliminate cervical cancer, underscoring renewed political will to make elimination a reality and calling for all stakeholders to unite behind this common goal.

In August 2020 the World Health Assembly adopted the Global Strategy for cervical cancer elimination.

Now is the time to act to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem.

Achieving elimination
To eliminate cervical cancer, all countries must reach and maintain an incidence rate of below four per 100 000 women. Achieving that goal rests on three key pillars and their corresponding targets:

Vaccination: 90% of girls fully vaccinated with the HPV vaccine by the age of 15;
Screening: 70% of women screened using a high-performance test by the age of 35, and again by the age of 45;
Treatment: 90% of women with pre-cancer treated and 90% of women with invasive cancer managed.
Each country should meet the 90-70-90 targets by 2030 to get on the path to eliminate cervical cancer within the next century.

The Short Cat Statement On Warriors Catastrophe

By Japhet “Short Cat” Mparutsa

We lost to Malawi and the focus will be on the coach. But can we look beyond the coach and do a root and branch analysis.

Our football has been going down for a while. Qualifying for Afcon has covered over the cracks. However the cracks are there to see and soon it will be the whole building collapsing.

I was lucky enough to play in a star studded junior team soon after independence in 1980.We had Ephraim Dzimbiri, James Takavada, David Zulu, Joel Shambo, Stanley Ndunduma, David Mwanza, John Phiri,Edward Katsvere among others. Guess what? All these players were in the team which won the Cecefa Cup in 1985.

In 1982,i won the Soccer Star of the Year award I was only 19. Stanley Ndunduma also won the award when he was only 20.

How was it possible that we had a glut of so many good young players in most clubs and who also played for the National Team? I became Zimbabwe number 1 keeper at 19.Why do we not have exciting young talent emerging from our league.?

The answer lies with the junior structures. We need a development plan to ensure we revive the age groups such as the Under 17,20 and under 23. We need full time coaches who work with the junior teams under the supervision of the National Coach. The coaches should have enough time to visit teams and conduct coaching clinics. They should cover every corner of Zimbabwe.

Schools should also take Sports and Football in particular seriously. All the benefactors who offer houses and money to the Warriors should start with the Junior structures.Let this money go to the kids.

How do you build a house without a Foundation? The Foundation are the schools, the junior teams and the Academies. These should be monitored to ensure that the proper football curriculum is being followed.

The Football Leadership should made up of people who care about football. People who want to see football development. There are many such leaders, we just need to give them a chance.

What we used to do in the past allowed a lot of young players to emerge. It made teams like Dynamos, Highlanders and Caps United very strong and with that the league was very competitive . A strong league will feed into the National Team and we will compete again.

The Diaspora constituency must strengthen the development trajectory. Here we need unity of purpose among the stakeholders. The young players who are 17,18 or 20 should come through the junior teams. This is why we need the junior structures to be vibrant. Once we have these up and running, it will be easy to utilise our best talents.

With the Warriors, there is always hope which is quickly replaced by disappointment. But it is not too difficult to do the right thing.

Let us revive those dead structures. Let us have a deliberate strategy. At the moment we have no strategy and hence we cannot expect miracles.

We can do it and I for one am ready to help.
Let’s Build!!
Be Blessed.

Kasukuwere Denies Plotting Mnangagwa’s Ouster

By A Correspondent- Exiled former Zanu PF political commissar Savior Kasukuwere said he had no links with Zanu PF youth Sybeth Musengezi, who is challenging the legitimacy of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Musengezi has instituted legal proceedings against the ruling party over processes that led to Mnangagwa’s rise to power in 2017.

Speaking to NewsDay on Sunday, Kasukuwere dismissed the allegations as “childish ramblings and conspiracy theories”.

NewsDay was interviewing him on his meeting with

outspoken former Chivi South MP Killer Zivhu and Norton MP Temba Mliswa (Independent) met in South Africa last week.

Kasukuwere, Zivhu and Mliswa were pictured together, raising speculation in Zanu PF that the trio could be plotting a comeback.

Kasukuwere, a former cabinet minister during the Robert Mugabe era, is in exile in South Africa along with other G40 members.

Police Round Up Motorists, Arrest 2 230

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has announced that they have arrested over 2 238 drivers of unregistered, plate-less and unlicensed vehicles during the ongoing nationwide operation.

The police said they arrested were meant to get rid of criminal elements and make all motorists comply with registration, insurance and licensing laws.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi announced the arrests.
“On January 16, 2022, 1 271 arrests were recorded on an operation targeting unlicensed, uninsured, unregistered motor vehicles. The cumulative number of arrests stands at 2238,” he said.

The arrests come after the Zimbabwe Republic Police recently warned motorists driving unregistered vehicles that they have embarked on an operation with effect from tomorrow targeting such cars.
The operation came after an increase in crime perpetrated by some motorists with unregistered cars.
According to police, there is no special exemption for anyone, including Government vehicles to move around without any registration number plates.
Police were also deeply concerned by the deliberate disregard of road traffic regulations by drivers of unregistered vehicles and those without number plates.

Unregistered and plate-less vehicles are also being used to commit crimes such as robberies, murder, kidnapping, rape and other heinous crimes.
All vehicles that do not display the standard number plates or Temporary Identification Cards (TIP) will be impounded and processed through referral to courts and payment of fines.
Meanwhile, the ZRP reports that on Sunday alone, a total of 2 653 people were arrested for various offences related to Covid-19.
Since March last year, a total of 1 447 510 have been arrested for Covid-19 violations countrywide.
A total of 534 people were also arrested on Operation’ No to Cross Border Crimes/ Fhasi Ngamilandu Yamukanoni Yamashango/Mhosva Pamiganhu Ngadzipere/Amacala Kawaphele Emingceleni Yelizwe’. The cumulative number of arrests stands at 96 054.

Charamba Confirms CIO Involvement In Gukurahundi Monument Bombing

By-The Government says the erection of Gukurahundi memorial plaques at the Bhalangwe mass graves site, Matabeleland South province, was an unlawful act.

The plaque, that was erected recently by pressure group, Ibetshu Likazulu, was bombed last week by suspected state security agents.

Speaking in an interview with CITE, Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet (Presidential Communications), George Charamba, said:

I think a criminal act was committed when an act was done out of the policy and the state was indifferent.

You don’t just in a sovereign country with a competent government just go and erect a monument in a community without involving the state. Where is that done? We are not a lawless society.

You don’t cherry-pick chiefs of the like mind of the activists and say you have chiefs on your side. It doesn’t work like that and we are talking tough on that one.

Charamba said the Government has nothing to do with the destruction of the plaques and will not get involved in the matter. He said:

Let that be very clear, they should never (erect plaques). It’s unlawful. So if anything becomes of that unlawful deed, it can’t be a problem of the state to explain on what basis, it’s an unlawful deed.

You take a risk which is an unlawful step, you live with the consequences and deal with those whatever becomes of it, it’s their business isn’t they feel strongly about it outside state parameters.

We are working on fixing wounds from early independence and if you listened to the President’s statement on the Unity Accord commemorations, we said the negative forces trying to sort of reactivating the spotlight on the conflict must be kept at bay and we meant it.

You can’t expect the police to police illegality or to account for it when it gets demolished, on what basis?

From your little hovel, you stand up to say you are going to raise a monument, as who?

Why don’t you win elections and establish your own government where you can do that?

You put your squatter camp along Umguza River and it’s raised to the ground by your girlfriend or boyfriend, you expect the police to be on standby to protect you?

There has been concern over theft and vandalism of Gukurahundi memorial plaques.

The plaques were erected in memory of thousands of people killed by the North Korean trained Fifth Brigade in the Midlands and Matebeleland provinces between 1982 and 1987.

Zivhu Likens Mutsvangwa To A Disused Public Toilet

By A Correspondent- Fired former Zanu PF MP for Chivi South, Killer Zivhu has likened Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa to a disused bus terminus public toilet.

Zivhu was responding to a press statement issued by Mutsvangwa after his (Zivhu) meeting with former Zanu PF political commissar Savior Kasukuwere and Norton MP Temba Mliswa in South Africa at the weekend.

The images of the trio went viral on social media and shook Zanu PF resulting in Mutsvangwa issuing a two-page lengthy and verbose press statement attacking the three.

Zivhu, Mliswa and Kasukuwere are all expelled Zanu PF cadres.

Responding to Mutsvangwa’s statement, Zivhu had no kind words for former Zimbabwe’s envoy to China.

“Chris Mutsvangwa tinyarewo hauna kana munhu anokuda iwe, you can’t win an election saka dzungu ndereyi, you are more dangerous to ED than Kasukuwere , hautengeseki kuvanhu se nyama yechidembo , just shut up, Chirungu haasi mavhotsi vanhu vanokusema iwe kunge toilet mu Norton,” said Zivhu.

Owen Ncube In Another Political Misfortune

By- Fired CIO minister Owen “Mudha” Ncube’s has lost his self imposed Zanu PF Midlands provincial vice chairmanship.

Mudha lost his party’s top post barely a week after he was fired from the cabinet by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Ncube was, however, given a far less influential position of secretary for production and labour during a rescheduled provincial coordinating committee (PCC) held in Gweru at the weekend.

The PCC was rescheduled after violence unleashed by Ncube’s thugs the previous weekend ended the meeting prematurely.

A ZANU PF insider told NewZimbabwe.com that Ncube was given the position as a mere consolation. He said:

He was given the position of provincial secretary for production and labour as a mere consolation but politically he is finished.

At the previous meeting, Ncube had smuggled a controversial list that was supposed to make the provincial executive. It was however rejected by ZANU PF structures in Midlands.

The controversial list, which was packed with Ncube’s loyalists, included former Mbizo Legislator Vongai Mupereri as secretary for administration, Shurugwi South MP, Edmund Mkaratigwa as finance Secretary, among others.

Instead, former ZANU PF youth league deputy secretary Edward Chakanyuka Chiherenge will deputise provincial chairperson Larry Mavima, who was imposed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mkaratigwa is now the secretary for administration, Chirumhanzu MP Barbara Rwodzi becomes secretary for finance, Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Paul Mavima is the new secretary for legal affairs.

In his address to the new executive, Mavima called for unity and implored party officials to stop denigrating each other. He said:

My plea to you comrades as your chairman is that we unite and or at the least attempt to unite.

In retrospect, our differences are very minor as we all claim to be 100% behind HE E D Mnangagwa our current and future President in 2023 and one united Zanu PF party led by our current praesidium who have all clearly stated their support for Cde Dr E D Mnangagwa as the sole candidate for the 2023 General. elections.

Let us now put our personal differences aside and rally to win the Bye Elections and the 2023 General Elections. I as your chairman.

Inyathi Women “Raped” By Mysterious Snake

By- Villagers in Inyathi’s Village 5 claim a mysterious snake is “raping” women, inflicting weak erections on men and stealing their money.

B-Metro reports that the villagers said that they believe the snake belonged to a fellow villager who was using it to make money.

Said one of the villagers:

Our husbands work tirelessly to feed the families, but we don’t see the outcomes as whatever money they earn just disappears into air thin without being used and this seems to be happening in many homes because everyone is complaining of the same that is why we suspect that this is someone’s snake.

The snake was reportedly first seen in a sack on a mountain by a hunter who alerted the village head.

However, when the village head and villagers went to the mountain to see the snake, there was nothing in the sack except used pampers.

Self-styled exorcists, the Tsikamutandas, were invited by some villagers to cleanse the whole village and find the snake and its owner.

It is alleged that a whirlwind rose and moved about until it stopped at the homestead of a woman suspected to be the owner of the snake.

The woman, however, told B-Metro that other villagers were jealous of her family’s success and have attributed their prosperous lives to a non-existent snake. She said:

I also heard that there is a snake terrorising people but the allegations held against me that I am its owner are all lies, I don’t know anything about that and I have not seen any snake.

She said her neighbours are now afraid of her and wherever she goes, people point fingers at her and her children are being shunned and humiliated at school.

Villagers now want the Tsikamutandas to go door by door to cleanse and protect every homestead from the snake.

The Village Headman, Frank Hlalakuhle, ruled out the move saying it is not only expensive to hire the Tsikamutandas as every household would be required to contribute financially, but also illegal. Said the headman:

The villagers have been complaining about this snake for quite some time now.

The law does now allow us to search people’s homesteads even if we suspect that they own the snake.

However, the chief said whoever has fallen prey to this snake should hire tsikamutandas to cleanse their homes.

It is not within my powers to let the tsikamutandas go door by door.

By A Correspondent- Norton member of parliament (independent) Temba Mlisawa said he was planning to meet with the MDC-Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa.

Mliswa said this to NewDay when the private daily asked him why he was with the former Zanu PF political commissar Savior Kasukuwere.

Mliswa’s pictures with Kasukuwere and expelled former Zanu PF MP for Chivi South, Killer Zivhu went viral on social media at the weekend.

Mliswa said there was nothing wrong with his meeting with Kasukuwere and Zivhu. He said:

We were not plotting anything, and I will continue meeting whoever I need to. Soon I will post pictures with Chamisa too; he is my sekuru (uncle) just like Kasukuwere or Jonathan Moyo (former Higher Education minister).

Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ambassador to China on Saturday honoured President Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance when he shared an announcement for an official function held by the abducted activist Netsai Marova and Chamisa’s Secretary for Policy Joana Mamombe.

The ambassador forwarded the message to a group of Zimbabweans set to be addressed by MDC Alliance MP Joana Mamombe and the MDC’s Secretary For Diaspora Affairs, Clifford Hlatshwayo.

The meeting was starting at 8pm on Sat and the ambassador only came back to distance himself after 10pm saying he had accidentally reposted the MDC Aliance Chamisa announcement.

The meeting had ended by that time, which was over 2 hours later.

Ambassador Chedondo claimed his post “was an accidental repost.”

He said he, “was scrolling the citizens posts when this happened.

“I will never be a messenger for the MDC.For the record I remain ZANU Pf and as Ambassador I serve all Zimbabweans.

“Once again I encourage all to desist using the platform as a vehicle for party political messages disguised as goodwill posts. “

“But the ambassador can’t say I made a mistake…because if you’re forwarding something, you would know your contacts, that is the group you are directing it to,” a source told ZimEye.

The meeting was an engagement for students in China.

Mauritania, Zim Crash Out Of AFCON Tournament

Three teams have, so far, qualified for the Afcon 2021 Round of 16 following the conclusion of Matchday 2 group games on Sunday.

Hosts Cameroon were the first to book a place in the knockout stage after registering six points in Group A. The Indomitable Lions will finish among the top two teams in the pool following their victories against Burkina Faso and Ethiopia.

Nigeria are the only team, so far, that have been confirmed as group winners after winning their first two games in Group D, while Morocco also secured a qualifying spot in Group C.

Zimbabwe and Mauritania, meanwhile, are the only teams that have been eliminated after Matchday 2.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

CAF Suspends Black Stars Striker

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed a three-match ban for Ghana striker Benjamin Tetteh at the Afcon 2021.

Tetteh was shown a straight red card after the 1-1 draw in Yaounde on Friday night after he was caught punching a Gabonese player.

A statement by CAF reads: On 13 January 2022, Gabon played Ghana at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde. Cameroon. The match officials indicated in their report that at the final whistle, Ghana player Benjamin Tetteh allegedly assaulted a Gabonese player.

CAF Disciplinary Board decided to:

To suspend player Ghana player Benjamin Tetteh for one additional game match in addition to his automatic suspension of two matches. Consequently, the player has been suspended for three matches.

The Disciplinary Board has also issued a stern warning to both teams for their unsportsmanship behaviour after referees’ full time whistle.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

El Hadji Diouf Bemoans Senagal Dismal Performance

Former Senegal star forward El Hadji Diouf has rubbished Sadio Mane’s claim that the Lions of Teranga are not playing well at AFCON 2021 due to the timing of matches.

Aliou Cisse’s charges have had a dismal campaign by their standards. They scrapped past Zimbabwe courtesy of a stoppage time penalty and played out a goalless draw with Guinea, who lead Group B.

Mane was asked by journalists after the stalemate with Guinea and insinuated they didn’t play well in their two matches so far because both were played at 14:00.

“It’s unfortunate to play twice in a row at 2 p.m., when teams haven’t played at that time, that they are shifting their matches. It’s not fair. The pitch is dry, not watered. We are not at all happy,” said the Liverpool star.

However, Diouf, who is with the team in Cameroon, has downplayed the effect of match timing saying it doesn’t affect performance in any way.

“A team like Senegal which aspires to win AFCON 2021 should in no way give excuses match schedules. Be it at 2 p.m. or 10 a.m. We must be match fit. We have to be ready to go for the win at any time,” Diouf said, when asked about Mane’s comments.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Martial, Rangnick Clash Over Aston Villa Tie

Anthony Martial has dismissed Ralf Rangnick’s claim that he refused to feature in Manchester United’s squad for Saturday’s EPL game against Aston Villa.

The French forward was not part of the selection that drew 2-2 at the Villa Park.

Explaining his absence, coach Rangnick said the 26-year-old did not want to travel to Birmingham as he pushes to leave before the January transfer window closes.

“Yes, he didn’t want to be in the squad,” Rangnick told reporters after the game.

“He would have been in the squad normally but he didn’t want to and that’s the reason why he was not travelling with us yesterday.”

But Martial has refuted the claim in an Instagram post: “I will never refuse to play a match for Man United,” Martial said on Instagram.

Mahere Exposes Mwonzora Lies

Mnangagwa Speaks On Zanu PF Bickering

President Mnangagwa on Saturday urged party leaders and supporters to uphold party values and reiterated his warning against use of coercion and chicanery as tools to attain political power.

Addressing members at the 359th Session of the Politburo, he indicated that the party is supreme and individuals sowing divisions will never be tolerated.

He also reminded people that no one can claim ownership of the party except the people.

“Acts of violence and political chicanery, sowing divisions will never be tolerated. The party remains supreme and we are a party that has a revolutionary legacy and let no one at any stage of our development seek to undermine or destroy this history.

“Zanu PF is a colossal party on the basis of its principles, values and norms. It is the people’s party and no one can claim ownership and sense of entitlement of the party,” he said.

The reminder comes after the dismissal from Government of former National Security Minister, Owen Ncube last Monday for “conduct that was deemed inappropriate for a Minister of Government”.

Ncube was fingered in the recent disturbances that rocked Zanu PF Midlands structures.

Zanu PF held successful provincial elections on December 28 with elected leaders advised to work for the people and implement the party’s development agenda.

President Mnangagwa also mandated the party’s political commissar to come up with strategies that ensure a resounding victory in the forthcoming elections.

In the first Politburo meeting of 2022 held two weeks ago, the President said the revolutionary party would decisively deal with rogue elements causing disharmony within its structures.

“Irregularities and political chicanery across party structures must be decisively dealt with and expunged from the party,’’ he warned then.

A violence-free environment has enabled Zimbabwe in the Second Republic to embark on major economic projects in the mining, energy, infrastructure and telecommunications sectors, among others.

On Thursday, the revolutionary party will hold primary elections to choose candidates representing the people in the forthcoming by-elections scheduled for March 26.

The by-elections were necessitated by parliamentary and council recalls within the opposition MDC-Alliance and some due to deaths of the representatives.

The President called on party members to ensure they had an increased political consciousness at all levels and emphasised that victory in the forthcoming by- elections will be a launchpad to winning the 2023 general harmonised elections.

“As leaders of the Politburo and Central Committee level, we must provide leadership by addressing lower structures, ensuring unity and that everyone is pulling in one direction which is aimed at accelerating the achievement of Vision 2030,” the President added.- The Herald

Learn More About Cervical Cancer Prevention

Vaccination: 90% of girls fully vaccinated with the HPV vaccine by the age of 15;
Screening: 70% of women screened using a high-performance test by the age of 35, and again by the age of 45;
Treatment: 90% of women with pre-cancer treated and 90% of women with invasive cancer managed.
Each country should meet the 90-70-90 targets by 2030 to get on the path to eliminate cervical cancer within the next century.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW?

What Is The Way Forward After Warriors Catastrophe?

Be Blessed.

Chamisa Running Scared Won’t Give His Party A Name, Afraid Of Being Bewitched: Mavaza

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | Zimbabwe President has announced dates for bi-elections. The 25th of January has been set by court to be Nomination Day. Political parties are now jostling to come up with candidates. They are running their primary elections to come up with the candidates who will represent them in the elections in March.

Zimbabwe is always blessed with tens of parties some of them are dead and only wake up towards elections. Some parties are alive and die towards elections.

Throughout the three years there has been a fight for power within MDC. This resulted in Chamisa taking the matter to court where he emerged as the loser.

Now after splitting the MDC scattering it into fragments which number from A to Z the MDC are mow fighting for the names. Mwonzora took advantage of the supreme court ruling and he grabbed the names and offices before he dribbles Khupe. Mwonzora has laid claim of ownership to all the names and asserts of the MDC. On the other had the seemingly clever Chamisa refused to budge and is crying loudly for the name.
While Chamisa and Mwonzora are battling it out it is the electorate which suffers. With the By-Elections on the corner Chamisa is left holding on to an empty name.

The problem both opposition members did was to believe that they will fit in Tsvangirai’s shoes. Tsvangirai built his name and the party benefited from his charisma. This is what is lacking in the two MDC splits.

But why Chamisa is refusing to come up with his own name for his party. He is surely out of time. He wishes his incompetence to be used to nullify the elections. The opposition has majored on boycotts and running to their handler to undermine the Zimbabwean sovereign.
Chamisa is failing to understand the importance of names. Names have significance. They have power. They define the political part.
An independent or non-partisan political party is a political party not affiliated with any political ideology. There is only one reason why why someone may stand for office without a name.
Some politicians have political views that do not align with the platforms of any political party, and therefore choose not to affiliate with them by name or otherwise.

Chamisa may pretend to have time but they have none. Most political parties go for a simple, descriptive name that, as best as possible, indicates their ideology, platform or who they seek to represent. But there are some parties you come across where there is a total disconnect between the name and the party. Names that are so counter-intuitive or perplexing that you can only wonder why they haven’t changed it. Here are a few.Contrary to longstanding arguments that equate parties with durable, information-rich brand names, the relabeling of parties is not rare, and in many countries it is not even very unusual.
The refusal by Chamisa to rebrand his offshoot exposes a coward dressed in a lion’s carcass.
Chamisa should know that
Through their labels, parties identify candidates to voters and provide voters with information about their ideological preferences. In short, party labels convey established reputations and provide a crucial information shortcut for voters. This what Chamisa is depriving his followers by keeping the name of the party to his chest.
Names have significance. They have power. They define us. Yet MDC thinks names are a secret game. Our names are an incredibly important part of our identity. They carry deep personal, cultural, familial, and historical connections. They also give us a sense of who we are, the communities in which we belong, and our place in the world.
Names are very important. We might not realize it, but they are more than just ways to identify a person. No one wonder many new parents spend so much time trying to settle on the right name for their bundle of joy.
Yet Chamisa is afraid to come up with a name so that if he is disqualified he blames ZEC for his name or the absence of it. Most political parties go for a simple, descriptive name that, as best as possible, indicates their ideology, platform or who they seek to represent. In other words, they do exactly what it says on the tin. But there are some parties you come across where there is a total disconnect between the name and the party. Names that are so counter-intuitive or perplexing that you can only wonder why they haven’t changed it.
Chamisa tries his best to bury himself in the dustbin of politics and blame whoever is successful. Homogeneity is not a place of growth. If things were the same all the time, we would never have a spark that allows for improvements and expansions and advancements. We need diversity of thought and diversity of perspective.
And we can’t have that if we don’t allow people the very root of their political self — their name. A rose is a rose for a reason.Calling it a daffodil doesn’t diminish the inherent power of the rose, but it does diminish what the rose feels about being a rose. Take great care in pronouncing the rose’s name correctly. No one likes being called the wrong thing. We all deserve a name, and we deserve it to be said correctly.Call a rose a rose, or whatever it asks to be called.
Chamisa and his team must go and join a hide and seek team and leave politics to those who are not ashamed with their names and principles.

Alert State Prosecutor Blocks Ken Sharpe Aide’s Bid To Smuggle Inadmissible Evidence

By A Correspondent| Self-exiled land developer Kenneth Raydon Sharpe’s employee Michael John Van Blerk was last week exposed by the state after he tried to sneak in inadmissible evidence as part of his application for exception of charges.

Van Blerk who applied for exception of perjury charges used statements allegedly made by the complainant Mr Georgios Katsimberis in a different case before the High Court.

According to Van Blerk, Katsimberis made admissions in High Court, documents which the Harare Magistrates Court is not in possession of.

An alert state prosecutor Mr Zivanai Macharaga blocked the move saying the court could not deal with the application without sight of the High Court documents.

“The basis of the exception your worship are based primarily on High Court documents or the contents of High Court documents. The accused is stating on how those documents contains or do not contain, they state that the complainant made admissions in High Court on the issues that the accused is now being charged. For the court to dispose the application, it must have sight of the High Court documents that is to say this court ought to obtain evidence before agreeing or disagreeing with the accused.

“The court would also notice that the exception is based on what the State has provided the accused as State papers. The accused is saying that those State papers do not show that the complainant contested the basis of the charge, the question that the court ought to answer is, Is that true? For that question to be answered the court ought to have that issue interrogated by the hearing of evidence. For the State, from the barb your worship would contest the truthfulness of the basis of the exception and the conclusion of law so arrived at those facts.

“The court also need to consider that the exception invites the court to make findings of whether or not complainant made certain admissions in High Court and what conclusion of law can be arrived at if there is any admission as referred in the exception,” said Macharaga.

Van Blerk appeared before Harare Magistrate Ngoni Nduna facing perjury charges which emanated from an affidavit that he deposed before the High Court to the effect that Katsimberis did not have approved architectural plans for the construction of a show house at the corner of Teviotdale and Whitwell Road, Borrowdale.

Katsimberis has since submitted evidence in form of an affidavit from City of Harare confirming authenticity of the stamp and signature appended on the plans.

Zim Football Needs A Complete Overhaul

It never rains but pours for our Warriors. Our national pride, hopes and dreams as a nation have been shattered again by the lukewarm performance of our beloved Warriors.

By Leonard Koni

Who has bewitched us or maybe its the poor preparations from the football controlling board ZIFA?

Warriors- National Football Team at AFCON

Since the Warriors first maiden appearance in 2004 they have never qualified to the next round. Watching the Warriors playing in their first two games was like watching a sheep being led into a slaughterhouse.

The Africa Cup of Nations is every country’s dream to take it and prove to the continent that they are the champions of African football.

As a nation we really need a complete engine overhaul of our football system.

I will not solely blame the poor performance of the Warriors at this African soccer jamboree but our football is still in its intensive care unit and needs to be given a lifeline. I feel like our government  has not done enough  to support the development of football in the country and only want to show up if national teams have qualified. Sponsorship is lacking and many soccer Academies  are struggling to run.

Since the outbreak of the corona virus our local football was sentenced to the life imprisonment and labour house.

Our football was on dearth bed for almost two and half years. We have not been playing football in the country whilst our neighbours were knocking the ball around during the same conditions of COVID 19.

We need to critically look into this problem and solve it once and for all. We must go back to the drawing board and revitalise and resuscitate junior football.

This tournament has extensively exposed the weak technical team and Zifa at large. It was a very tough assignment for both Norman Mapeza and his contigent of players. Some players lack seriousness when playing for the national team.

Tournaments like Africa Cup of Nations  are all about results not positives. Poor tactics cost our gaffer the game. There is no honour in defeat.

Our last game against Guinea is likely to be another defeat if we are not careful. Technically we are out of the race as we are the only team in the group without picking up points  All our hopes and dreamshave been shattered.

Zifa is another impediment to the development of the football in the country.

As it stands we don’t have a proper data base of Under 17 , Under 21 even Under 23. During early 80s we used to have a powerful Under 23 which was a feeder to the national team and a lot of players graduated from Under 23 to the main squad. Where is ZIFA  putting those developmental funds to?

Now that our skipper Knowledge Musona has served so well and is now about to hang up his boots and retiring very soon after this tournament, who is going to replace him and when are we going to have hungry strikers?

Player motivation is of paramount importance but the timing should not put unnecessary pressure on the players to perform  like some people  who would like to come in with their motivation at the last minute. We will always say Go Warriors Go.

Drunkard Kills Man With A Log

By A Correspondent- A 45 year old man from Gokwe, Midlands Province died on the spot after he was struck with a log on the head by a drunk man at a farm in West Nicholson, Matabeleland South.

His attacker has since been arrested and is facing a murder charge.

Matabeleland South Police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the case, which occurred on Thursday at Majota Farm at around 2pm.

She identified the accused person as Mduduzi Sibanda (25) of River Block Two in West Nicholson and the deceased as Gideon Majoni from Chitekete area in Gokwe.

“The accused was drunk at the farm shop and was threatening to beat people who were at the shop. The now-deceased arrived at the shops not knowing what was happening.

The accused pulled two logs and hit the late on the stomach and on the head and he died on the spot,” she said

Insp Mangena said a report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the accused person, who is facing murder charges.

The deceased’s body was taken to Gwanda Provincial Hospital for post-mortem.

Insp Mangena urged members of the public to always act responsibly even when under the influence of alcohol to avoid loss of life.

“We continue to urge members of the public to value the sanctity of life.

When drunk it is better to go home and sleep than to act irresponsibly, which may drag innocent family members into dealing with situations that can be avoided.

“We appeal to members of the public to also help prevent such cases if possible than to watch innocent lives being lost,” she said.-statemedia

Police Ban Machete Carrying In Gokwe

By A Correspondent- Police in Gokwe have banned the carrying of machetes and other dangerous weapons as a way of curbing the rise in cases of murder,  particularly those  involving crimes of passion, Southern Eye has established.

Officer commanding Gokwe district, chief superintendent Tsitsi Chikono said the ban would be effective for three months.

“Due to the rise in crimes of passion and use of weapons, the carrying whether openly or by concealment in a public place or public thoroughfare or public display of any of the following weapons; catapults, machetes, axes, knobkerries, swords, knives, spears (and) any traditional weapon whatsoever is looking likely to occasion public disorder or a breach of peace,” she said.

“I hereby issue an order prohibiting the carrying of such weapons in Gokwe district or part thereof for a period not exceeding three months that is from January 20 to April 20, 2022.”

Chikono said any member of the public seen carrying such weapons would be arrested.

The prohibition order comes at a time when Gokwe has been recording rising cases of domestic violence.

Domestic Worker Jailed 20yrs For Abusing Employer’s Grandson

By A Correspondent- A 31 year old Rusape domestic worker, who was fully aware of her status, was sentenced to 20 years in prison after she sexually abused her employer’s grandson, aged between 9 and 11, on several occasions.

Precious Chitseko of Mhukayesango Village in Nyazura had no legal representation when she recently appeared before regional magistrate Francis Mapfumo.

Chitseko was convicted after overwhelming evidence was presented in court and the magistrate did not suspend any part of the sentence.

Prosecuting, Tawanda Munjanja told the court that the accused abused the juvenile when his grandmother had visited her daughter. Said Munjanja:

Chitseko and the juvenile are not related. On dates unknown to the prosecutor but during the period extending from 12 October 2020 to 09 November 2020, the juvenile was left in the custody of the accused person whilst his grandmother visited her daughter in Chegutu.

During that period, the accused person had sexual intercourse with the complainant without his consent on several occasions.

The matter only came to light when the complainant disclosed the matter to his grandmother on 26 February 2021.

Zivhu, Kasukuwere, Mliswa Meeting Irks Zanu PF

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF bigwigs are reportedly worried after exiled former party commissar Savior Kasukuwere, outspoken former Chivi South MP Killer Zivhu and Norton MP Temba Mliswa (Independent) met in South Africa last week.

Kasukuwere, Zivhu and Mliswa were pictured together, raising speculation in ZANU PF that the trio could be plotting a comeback.

Kasukuwere, a former cabinet minister during the Robert Mugabe era, is in exile in South Africa along with other G40 members.

He is accused of being behind a court challenge by a ZANU PF youth, Sybeth Musengezi, who has instituted legal proceedings against the ruling party over processes that led to Mnangagwa’s rise to power in 2017.

But speaking to NewsDay on Sunday, Kasukuwere dismissed the allegations as “childish ramblings and conspiracy theories”.

Meanwhile, Mliswa said there was nothing wrong with his meeting with Kasukuwere and Zivhu. He said:People are coming up with all sorts of conspiracies just because we were together.

I was expelled from ZANU PF by a faction involving Kasukuwere — and if anything, I should not be with him, but there is more to life than politics.

We were not plotting anything, and I will continue meeting whoever I need to. Soon I will post pictures with Chamisa too; he is my sekuru (uncle) just like Kasukuwere or Jonathan Moyo (former Higher Education minister).

Thus on the basis of those principles I have never been out of ZANU PF. The current power holders in the party have kicked out people with the real DNA of ZANU PF.

Title Deed Fraudsters On The Prowl, Check If You Still Own Your Property

If you own a vacant or an unoccupied property in Zimbabwe my suggestion is verify if you still own that property.

With the Zimbabwean property market being dominated by absent buyers, due to over four million Zimbabweans who are now scattered all over the world.

Zimbabwe’s fraudsters have found a niche in the market and are now using technology for identity theft and then executing title deed fraud.

Title deed fraud occurs when someone steals your identity, forges your name on a title deed, and takes title to your property. While it may seem that it should be a simple matter to get your home back after becoming a victim of deed fraud, nothing in the law is very simple. The cost involved are high and it is a very stressful process.

No property buyer wants to discover they have been involved in a fraudulent property buying transaction. But unfortunately in Zimbabwe, forged deeds and fraudulent title transfers are happening far more often than ordinary people believe. Title deed fraud is not a new idea but has been amplified by the use of new technology.

This problem has been around for decades, most commonly with vacant properties and especially involving deceased property owners, but is now on the increase and populated due to areas with a large numbers of vacant, unoccupied properties leaving property owners and investors at risk.

There are several ways that these fraudsters fraudulently acquire your properties, there is a perception that the real estate seller, the lawyer is involved, but that is not always the case. The fraudster obtain a copy of your title deed, a Zimbabwean title deed consist of the name of the property owner, the national identity number.

They use these details to embed them on a fake national identity (ID) card which is then produced as proof of ownership to an estate agent and as the norm real estate agencies work with lawyers.

The lawyer will verify the owner of the property with the deed office when there is a request for a sale. The details of the deed and the ID details will be identical, using the same ID the fraudster opens a bank account which will receive the proceeds of the loots when a transaction is executed. With the duplicate national ID and bank account  now setup in the owners name, this is then used to sell the house.

When the property is then sold to the new owner by the person impersonating, the property title deed at the deeds offices are then updated making them the new legal owner. This is done without the owner of the property sometimes  not even knowing.

There are also corrupt real estate agents, lawyers and employees at the deeds office and this is common knowledge due the the publications in the media over the years who are participants in these criminal activities.

If you own or are in the process of buying a property you could potentially be targeted, but some homeowners are more at risk than others. You are more at risk of title deed fraud if your

-Property is left vacant,

-Property is rented out

-You live overseas

-It does not have a mortgage against it

-Your identity has been stolen

-It is not registered with the deeds office.

Savvy fraudsters are able to forge documents, commit fraud, and steal the title deed to your property, sell the property to someone else and reap the proceeds.

They sometimes use their fraudulent ownership to access a lending tool and extract the home’s equity, leaving you in debt that may lead you to death due to the stress involved.

There is no better time to check if you still own your property than now title deed fraudsters are on the increase.

Zanu Pf Chef Sacked Over Ballot Papers Scam

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reportedly fired the ZANU PF director for administration, Dickson Dzora, for his alleged involvement in a ballot paper printing deal that partly contributed to chaotic internal elections held last month.

Dzora allegedly colluded with some party officials to corruptly engage a private company to print thousands of ballot papers for the party’s provincial polls held in December 2021.

Reports indicate that Dzora was sacked after the politburo meeting held on Saturday.

It is alleged that Dzora engaged a company called VGP Technologies, based at Engineering House along Rezende Street in Harare which in turn subcontracted Lightpress, to print the ballot papers.

Dzora was reportedly working with other senior party officials and employees, including one identified as Munyaradzi Katsande who was in the ICT department.

Katsande was reportedly fired after he allegedly misappropriated thousands of dollars from the party.

NewsDay reported sources as saying that ZANU PF secretary for security Lovemore Matuke detected the scam and engaged the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) to investigate why the party subcontracted the work which was usually done by its printing arm, Jongwe Printers.

Said a source:

Such printing business is usually done by Jongwe Printers and it had already printed the ballot papers before Dzora approached VGP Technologies for the same.

His company of choice did not have the capacity and it subcontracted another company based in Graniteside called Lightpress for the job.

Investigations revealed personal interests and connivance at the party headquarters for them to benefit.-newsday

Owen Mudha Ncube Loses Zanu PF Top Post

By A Correspondent- Former State Security minister Owen “Mudha” Ncube’s political fortunes continue to diminish after he lost the ZANU PF Midlands provincial vice chairmanship, on which he had imposed himself, over the weekend.

Ncube was demoted to a far less influential position of secretary for production and labour during a rescheduled provincial coordinating committee (PCC) held in Gweru on Saturday.

The PCC was rescheduled after violence unleashed by Ncube’s thugs the previous weekend ended the meeting prematurely.

A ZANU PF insider told a local publication that Ncube was given the position as a mere consolation.

In retrospect, our differences are very minor as we all claim to be 100% behind HE E D Mnangagwa our current and future President in 2023 and one united Zanu PF party led by our current praesidium who have all clearly stated their support for Cde Dr E D Mnangagwa as the sole candidate for the 2023 General. elections.

Let us now put our personal differences aside and rally to win the By Elections and the 2023 General Elections. I as your chairman

Mnangagwa Hunts Down Chihuri

By-The High Court is this week expected to hear a case in which the government is seeking to recover more than US$32 million and forfeit numerous properties from former Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri and his family.

Chihuri, who is believed to be in Malawi, is reported to have created a “criminal syndicated mafia” that siphoned funds for his personal, family and cronies’ benefit during the 25 years he was at the helm of the police force.
He fled the country following his removal from the post soon after the November 2017 resignation of the late former President Robert Mugabe.

Chihuri is alleged to have sold five properties between 2017 and 2018 that were part of a large property portfolio.
Buyers paid a total of US$620 000 for the five properties registered in the names of his family members and the State is still trying to find out how ownership changed in respect of two other assets previously owned by the Chihuri family.
Prosecutor-General Mr Kumbirai Hodzi, has filed a fresh application seeking explanation on the sale of the properties.
Justice Pisirayi Kwenda is on Wednesday expected to hear the matter in which Chihuri, through his legal counsel, will be expected to explain the sale of the properties.

In the latest High Court application counteracting Chihuri’s bid to set aside two orders issued against him, Mr Hodzi said a check with the Deeds Office showed the rushed disposal of assets by the Chihuri family.
Among the properties sold is a mansion in Gletwyn sitting on 30 acres of land valued at US$7 million.
On July 17, 2018, Isobel Halima Khan Chihuri sold stand 1421 Gletwyn Township which was walled, gated with a borehole, water tank, tank stand and wooden cabin to Brian Chijaka for US$130 000.
Her brother, Aitken Khan, had her power of attorney.
Stand Number 1411 Gletwyn was also sold by True Hope Trust again with Khan standing in for his sister, but the value of the property is yet to be established.
On March 21, 2018, Khan sold number 8 St Aubin’s Chisipite in Harare on behalf of owner Samantha Chihuri to Erinah Muchingami for US$365 000.

The property, measuring 9 094 square metres has a four-bedroomed house with borehole and is gated and walled.
On August 29, 2017, Khan sold another property in Strathaven, registered in the name of Nicole Tawonga Chihuri to Fairline Investments Pvt Ltd for US$125 000.
The Chihuri family is expected to disclose how they acquired Lot 3 of Plot 4 of Juliasdale, Nyanga, a property worth US$3 860 000 and registered in the names of Samantha Chihuri, Ethan Augustine Chihuri, Nicole Tawonga Chihuri and Anashe Melamine Chihuri under Deed of Transfer 2208/12.
The family should also explain how it acquired — 14453 Ibhalabhala Crescent, Selbourne in Bulawayo which was transferred from the ex-police boss’ name into the name of Tendai Madamombe on July 24, 2018. The buyer has since resold the property.
Chihuri, his wife Isobel and children — Ethan and Samantha — were listed as respondents together with five companies involved in the alleged siphoning of money from the Police Revolving Fund.
An order which the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) obtained at the High Court placed known family property in Zimbabwe under the management of the Asset Management Unit of the NPA.
This means the property and companies cannot be sold without permission of the courts. Chihuri is challenging earlier unexplained wealth orders.
He argues that the unexplained wealth order constituted a “gross irregularity and a fundamental breach of their legal rights” and wants the High Court to declare that certain provisions of the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime (Amendment) Act of 2019, infringe the Constitution.

In challenging the constitutionality of these provisions in the High Court, Chihuri and his family rely on a constitutional provision that gives courts subordinate to the Constitutional Court the power to make constitutional declarations and to pronounce as invalid, offensive pieces of legislation, although any such finding is subject to confirmation by the Constitutional Court.
Chihuri argues that if for any reason, the High Court does not wish to consider the constitutional matter, then the constitutional questions he is raising should be referred to the Constitutional Court for determination.

Zanu PF Sets By-Elections Primaries Dates

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF’s has announced the dates for holding primary elections for members interested in representing the party in the March by-elections.

The party’s politburo sai at the weekend that the primary elections will be held on Thursday this week.

Addressing journalists at the party’s headquarters in Harare Saturday, Zanu PF political commissar Mike Bimha said the party had started preparations for primary elections.

“One of the issues (deliberated by the Politburo) had to do with the finalisation of provincial elections. Last time, the Politburo endorsed elections of three structures that were mainly chairpersons of the Main Wing, the Women’s League and the Youth League,” he said.
“In a province, we have a provincial structure of 120 members, so when the endorsement was done last time we were only talking of those three positions. We then sent Politburo members to go and oversee the equitable distribution of the remaining 117 members countrywide. Today we were presenting the names of the winners from each province. We now have 1 200 provincial members in the country. The structures have now been endorsed and approved.”
The party’s head office, he said, has started receiving and vetting curriculum vitae (CVs) of primary election candidates.
“Some of the activities had already started, with the meeting that was held by the organising committee and the call for submission of CVs.

“We are at the stage where the roadmap has commenced. We are now putting together a command centre at the head office to start the process which will culminate in the holding of the primary elections.”

Gold Panners Dig Up Graves

By-Villagers in Kanengoni village under Chief Negomo in Chiweshe are distressed after illegal gold panners invaded a cemetery in the area in search of gold.

Kraal head, Garikayi Kanengoni, confirmed the development to H-Metro saying the illegal miners were expected to appear before Chief Negomo. He said:

I received information that there were some illegal miners operating at the village cemetery and I could not believe it.

As kraal head, I engaged Chief Negomo’s secretary and we visited the anthill where we lay to rest our relatives, and where our forefathers were laid to rest.

It is unbelievable that the miners failed to respect the dead and went on to expose some of the graves, in search of gold.

The matter has disturbed villagers and we agreed that this must stop.

Vamwe vana vacho ndevemumusha handizive kuti kana vavekufukunura makuva tochivigira kupi vafi uye isu tikafa tinovigwa kupi.

Families have been clashing over this matter and it has been stopped and appropriate action has been taken.

The people involved are expected to appear before Chief Negomo this Saturday and I promise that this will surely be brought to a halt.

Authorities have turned a blind eye to the desecration of the cemetery as they are reportedly being given gold to allow the mining to continue.

By A Correspondent- The Nelson Chamisa led MDC said it would field recalled legislators and councillors in the upcoming by-elections without subjecting them to primary elections.

The party’s secretary for elections Ian Makone told   OpenParly that they have already notified these politicians:

President Emmerson Mnangagwa proclaimed 26 March 2022 as the date for the by-election to fill the vacant 28 seats in Parliament.

Most of the vacancies arose after MDC Alliance MPs were recalled by MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora for pledging their loyalty to Nelson Chamisa.

Mnangagwa Man Promotes President Chamisa’s MDC Event

Tinashe Sambiri

Japhet Mparutsa Statement On Warriors Fiasco

Single Woman Wins R10mln Maintenance

A Zimbabwean woman based in South Africa has won R10 Million maintenance from the estate of her late partner with whom she was cohabitating for two years.
This is after that country’s Constitutional Court ruled that such relationships were a legitimate family structure, and deserved respect and recognition under the law.

Court documents show that Jane Bwanya met her late South African partner Anthony Ruch in 2014. He passed away on April 23, 2016, two months before he was scheduled to travel to Zimbabwe to pay lobola.

At the time of his death, the deceased was 57 years old and never been married.

He had a will but the heiress was his mother Lorna Ruch who passed away intestate in 2013. Anthony was his mothers’ sole heir having been the only child.

Bwanya made a claim for maintenance at the courts in that country where she sought an order declaring the Intestate Succession Act 81 of 1987 (ISA) and the Maintenance of Surviving Spouses Act 27 of 1990 (MOSSA) unconstitutional.

Under the ISA and MOSSA, Bwanya did not deserve any spousal maintenance from her deceased partner as they were not married, and did not have any children.

But Bwanya, represented by the Women’s Legal Centre Trust and the Commission for Gender Equality argued that she deserved maintenance arguing Anthony had committed to a life-long relationship.

She kept a diary of Anthony’s promises to wed her, and have her as a lifelong partner. The diary was produced in court as evidence.

Bwanya submitted that she and the deceased contemplated having a baby together. This aspect of her testimony was corroborated by an entry dated October 15, 2015 in the deceased’s diary about “cementing their relationship with a baby,” court papers read.

The ConCourt awarded Bwanya: “a claim of R6 734 964-36 against the estate of the deceased’s mother, Mrs Ruch, in respect of the value of the immovable property commonly known as 60 Rottingdean Road, Camps Bay which had been sold by the Executor of the deceased’s estate.

“A further claim of R2 570 000 in respect of the value of the Seaways Flat located at 31 Beach Road, Mouille Point which was sold prior to the deceased’s death but finalised after his death. The deceased’s various financial investments worth R1 million comprising, inter alia, a PSG Investment, an Old Mutual Investment and cash in an FNB Account.”

The ConCourt gave the South African Parliament 18 months to make the necessary amendments to the ISA and MOSSA to ensure that surviving partners receive a share from their deceased lover’s estates. –Standard

Unconditionally Release

17 January 2022
Unconditionally Release incarcerated 16 Teachers
As a follow up to our twitter solidarity message with our colleagues in Artuz, were reiterate our call for the unconditional release of 16 teachers including the president of Artuz, Obert Masaraure.

Obert Masaraure

Their incarceration is callous and a monument of Zimbabwe injustice, violating the national
constitution and Labour Conventions. The rights to demonstrate and assembly are guaranteed in
the national constitution and Labour Conventions. Arresting teachers for merely reminding their
employer that they are hungry and starving consequent of a meagre salary can never be condoned
in a country 42 years after independence.
Henceforth we remind the government that a threat to teachers anywhere is a threat to teachers
everywhere in Zimbabwe. The arrest of 16 teachers is a threat to 140 000 teachers in Zimbabwe.
As Ptuz we call upon all teachers and all teacher unions in Zimbabwe to amplify the call for the
release of our 16 comrades behind bars. Their call for the restoration of the purchasing power
parity of teachers’ salaries, is a clarion call for all teachers in Zimbabwe. As we call for immediate
unconditional release of our colleagues, we remind the government that only US$540 and
education sector specific allowances, are a panacea to the challenges faced by teachers.

Mwonzora hear hear the words of the crying people of Zimbabwe ” You joined the MDC democratic liberation struggle in 2005.Why then should you come to destroy the people’s struggle?”

_The People’s President Nelson Chamisa read 1 Samuel 30:8 “David inquired of the Lord; ” Shall i pursue after the band?Shall i overtake them? He answered him ” Pursue for you shall surely overtake and shall surely rescue”

Just like President Nelson Chamisa, David found the enemy had destroyed the City of Ziklag and had taken “captive women and all who were in it.Both small and great…..carried them off and went their way”

President Chamisa’s MDC Alliance Launches Voter Registration Blitz

Tinashe Sambiri| The MDC Alliance will on February 1 launch a voter registration blitz meant to encourage thousands of citizens to participate in coming polls.

This was said by MDC Alliance Secretary General, Charlton Hwende on Friday.

According to the MDC Alliance, ZEC is sabotaging the voter registration exercise across the country.

“On the 1st of February the voter registration Blitz is going to start. I would like to thank the Citizens who helped in donating 150 000 flyers that you see being printed here for Mash East Province.

Our branches will soon do door 2 door village by village voter mobilization drive,” said Hwende.

The MDC Alliance Secretary General also exposed Mr Douglas Mwonzora’s “hypocrisy.”

“The Alliance Agreement ceased to exist after the Elections that is the reason why we created a party with a constitution called MDC Alliance Party in Gweru 2019.

This is exactly what Mwonzora is saying here. He is now being used by ED as a puppet Opposition Party Leader.”

Coutinho Punishes Manchester United

Brazilian star, Philippe Coutinho who recently joined Aston Villa scored a late minute goal to deny Manchester United a win in a Premier League match played at Villa Park on Saturday.

Manchester United were leading by two goals to nil when Coutinho was introduced.

Coutinho was just about to be introduced by Villa boss Gerrard midway through the second half when Bruno Fernandes slammed home his second goal of the game off the underside of the bar.

When the former Liverpool player was eventually introduced, he drove at the United defence, helping to create the space which Jacob Ramsey exploited to halve the deficit.

Then Ramsey slid over an excellent cross from the left which Raphael Varane was unable to intercept as he slid back, leaving Coutinho to finish into an empty net.

The goal brought celebrations at both ends of the pitch as Villa’s goal minder, Emiliano Martinez, also went into the crowd in relief – it was the Argentine’s horrible sixth-minute error that had gifted Fernandes the visitors’ opener.

Coutinho who is still a Barcelona player is set to spend the rest of this season on loan at Villa Park.

He is reuniting with his former teammate, Steven Gerrard, who is the Villa coach now after taking over from Dean Smith. – Pindula News

Bushiri Pastor Shot Dead In SA

I am greatly pained and grieved to learn of the tragic shooting to death of Apostle Eric Bhuka, one of our ECG Pastors in South Africa.
What’s even troubling is that our Apostle was shot at the prayer mountains, where he went to pray, preparing for the Great Entrance this Sunday.

I celebrate you, Apostle Eric. You came, you preached, you won souls and, at your journey’s end, you have gone back to where we will all return after finishing the mission of preaching Jesus Christ.

Rest in glory, Apostle.

FIFA Suspends Pape Gueye Of Senegal

Senegal midfielder Pape Gueye has been suspended by Fifa because of a transfer dispute.

The 22-year-old, who is part of the Teranga Lions’ Afcon 2021 squad, did not feature in Friday’s 0-0 draw with Guinea due to the ban.

The suspension comes after the player signed a pre-contract with Watford in April 2020 but changed his mind and joined Marseille as a free agent without the knowledge of the EPL side.

“There were problems between Watford and Marseille on a transfer. Fifa has suspended him,” said Senegal coach Aliou Cisse, according to AFP.

“Until we appeal, he cannot play with us. We knew it, in reality, five minutes before the kickoff (of the game against Guinea).”

Gueye becomes the second player at the Afcon 2021 to receive a suspension from FIFA after Ivory Coast goalkeeper Sylvain Gbohouo was banned earlier in the week.

Gbohouo’s ban came after he violated doping rules. The 33-year-old tested positive for trimetazidine, a heart medication that the World Anti-Doping Agency categorises as a stimulant.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

We Conceded Soft Goals – Mapeza

Norman Mapeza believes his charges failed on several aspects that led them to their 2-1 loss to Malawi in the Afcon 2021 Group B match played on Friday.

The result saw the Warriors bowing out of the competition and will finish their campaign at the bottom of pool.

According to Mapeza, the national team didn’t utilise their chances and fell short on game management after taking the lead.

Ishmael Wadi gave Zimbabwe the advantage in the 36th minute but Gabadhino Mhango levelled terms four minutes later.

“We gave away soft goals,” Mapeza said. “We failed on game management after we had scored in the first half, only to conceded four minutes later and with two minutes to go to half time.”

Malawi added another one towards the hour mark after Teenage Hadebe failed to clear the ball and Mhango dispossessed him before slotting it past Petros Mhari.

The Warriors, however, didn’t recover from that second goal and they lost the match.

The gaffer added: “For their second goal it was a soft one, the defender was dispossessed and they scored. But our main problem was the failure to utilize chances especially in the first half. I think Malawi never got a shot on target until they scored.”

Zimbabwe will face Guinea in their final Group B game on Tuesday in Yaounde.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

President Chamisa:” We Shall Flourish In Our Land”

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance leader President Nelson Chamisa on Sunday morning released a message of hope to millions of suffering citizens.

President Chamisa, a devout Christian himself, declared that the nation would flourish by God’s grace.

Despite negative comments about his Christian principles, the People’s President has remained unmoved by naysayers’ views.

President Chamisa wrote on his official Facebook page:

WE WILL FLOURISH IN THE LAND…

Then they dug another well, but they quarreled over that one also;so he named it Sitnah. He moved on from there &dug another well, and no one quarreled over it.

He named it Rehoboth, saying,”Now the LORD has given us room and we will flourish in the land.”Genesis:26.20-22. We are ready to make and take our Rehoboth.

At Rehoboth every Zimbabwean shall flourish. Wishing you a Reheboth 2022. Blessed Sunday.

What You Need To Know About Dementia

Malaria vaccine a beacon of hope in the fight against a range of infectious diseases

Just as health workers have been guiding lights in these difficult times, so has the transformative potential of science.

WHO’s recommendation of the widespread use of a malaria vaccine for children at risk, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, marked a milestone moment for child health and malaria control.

The recommendation was based on results from an ongoing pilot programme of the RTS,S vaccine in Ghana, Kenya and Malawi that has reached more than 800 000 children since 2019.

The vaccine has reinvigorated the fight against malaria, which claimed the lives of over 600 000 people in Africa in 2020. Children under the age of 5 represented 80% of these deaths.

Even before the pandemic struck, there were signs that after years of phenomenal gains, progress was stalling.

Other major achievements relating to immunization include the introduction of a licensed Ebola vaccine and launch of a landmark new global plan to tackle meningitis.

Meanwhile, we released new evidence that more countries are following WHO’s advice on the steps to take when HIV drug resistance reaches critical thresholds. This is an important step forward in the global fight against antimicrobial resistance, about which WHO continues to raise the alarm, calling for action on innovation and within the food system.

Dementia

WHO signals alarm about dementia challenge
Individuals can do a lot themselves to stay healthy but they can’t do it all on their own.

WHO released its first report on the global status of the public health response to dementia, showing that only a quarter of countries worldwide have a national policy, strategy or plan for supporting people with dementia and their families.

These gaps are increasingly concerning, as the number of people living with dementia is growing.

WHO estimates that more than 55 million people (8.1% of women and 5.4% of men over 65 years) are living with dementia.

As life expectancy increases worldwide, this number is estimated to rise to 78 million by 2030 and to 139 million by 2050.

To drive change, the report highlights the urgent need to strengthen support at national level, for both people with dementia and those who care for them. Many countries lack earmarked funding in national health budgets, leaving significant gaps in treatment and care, and do not comprehensively involve people with dementia and their carers and families in developing policies. These are among the areas for change.

WHO is also developing a Dementia Research Blueprint, to structure research efforts and stimulate new initiatives, helping to overcome challenges related to past unsuccessful clinical trials for treatments and the high costs of research and development.

Mnangagwa Top Aide Endorses President Chamisa’s MDC Alliance Programme

Tinashe Sambiri

Way Forward After Warriors Fiasco In Cameroon

Mliswa, Zivhu, Kasukuwere To Support ED In 2023

Temba Mliswa, Saviour Kasukuwere and Killer Zivhu

Former Zimbabwean minister Saviour Kasukuwere, former Chivi West legislator Killer Zivhu and outspoken Zimbabwean politician and the current Member of Parliament for Norton Constituency Temba Mliswa have resolved to support Emmerson Mnangagwa during the 2023 election.

This was revealed by Killer Zivhu on Twitter when he captioned a photo he took with the other two former Zanu-PF politicians.

Said Zivhu,

“We have resolved to remain Zanu-pf members no matter what may come, We have also agreed to support President ED  during 2023 elections. Kudzoswa kana kusadzoswa mumusangano , will not stop us to support ED 2023.”

Kasukuwere had captioned his picture, “Met two maverick Zimbabwean politicians. Interesting catching up with two comrades who have gone through a lot and are tactical politicians. Wish them well in their political journey.”

“Mudha Was Causing Havoc In Home Province”

By A Correspondent- By the time fired State Security minister Owen “Mudha” Ncube was removed from office, he had become a Frankenstein monster for President Emmerson Mnangagwa, as he was now causing havoc in his home province.

Ncube, a close ally of Mnangagwa, was fired for a cocktail of reasons, including hooliganism, factionalism and destabilising Zanu-PF, fear of losing elections, undermining his grip on power and deadly battles over gold mines in Kwekwe.

Mudha is generally seen as the “commander” of a Kwekwe-based violent group known as AlShaabab, that is notorious for intimidation and brutality in local politics and gold mining affairs in the city and its surrounding areas.

Al-Shaabab is blamed for violent attacks and killings there, amid allegations that the group was responsible for many murders in gold-rich Kwekwe.

Al-Shaabab, named after the Somali Islamist extremist group, is also behind a reign of terror in the Midlands, with elements often used to mete out violence on opposition supporters.

But during the longstanding battle for the Zanu-PF Midlands chairperson’s position, the group has also been used to fight factional battles between Mudha and another Mnangagwa ally, Daniel Mackenzie Ncube.

When Mnangagwa appointed “Mudha” Ncube, there was public uproar, with critics saying he was not ministerial material given his background of hooliganism, violence and brutality in Kwekwe. Mnangagwa, however, did not heed the public concerns.

In March 2020, the United States designated Zimbabwe’s former Presidential Guard commander Anselem Sanyatwe, now an ambassador, and “Mudha” Ncube for their “role in human rights abuses related to political repression in Zimbabwe”.

This further vindicated critics who had questioned his appointment. A Zanu-PF insider said “Mudha” Ncube had remained “the hooligan that he has always been” as minister. He still embraced gangsterism, violence and brutality; thuggery to settle issues.

Only last weekend he bused a group of his Al-Shaabab gang armed with machetes to a Zanu-PF Gweru meeting.

Sources say Ncube ran the show like a “warlord”, issuing instructions, threats and orders about how provincial structures should be like after the recent elections.

Insiders add that Ncube wanted to control the structures in his own favour, not helping Mnangagwa to consolidate power, while others allege that he was working with Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s faction.

“The dramatic events at the Zanu-PF provincial meeting at the party’s convention centre, The Winery, showed beyond reasonable doubt that Mudha had become a warlord, ruling the province by violence and fear. He brought thugs with machetes and illegally ran the meeting like a thug.

“He behaved like a mafia boss and issued orders and threats as he sought to influence structures after the provincial elections, not to help Mnangagwa but to control the region for his own good. Mnangagwa’s Midlands loyalists pushed for his removal. He had become a Frankenstein monster.

“Mudha is a creature of violent Zanu-PF politics Mnangagwa presided over in the Midlands and all over the country. Now, typically, he was now threatening to ruin his creator. Zanu-PF is in tatters in the Midlands, and of course all over the country, but in that region Mudha created havoc,” added the source.

“Mnangagwa’s allies had been repeatedly warning him Mudha was destabilising the party and undermining him. He took a long to act because this was his key right-hand man for a long time, but then he had morphed into a Frankenstein. His actions risked defeat for Mnangagwa in 2023.”

Mnangagwa’s allies led by Midlands provincial chairperson Larry Mavima feared Mudha was now undermining Mnangagwa to vengefully help his deputy and rival Chiwenga after he was blocked from becoming party provincial chair.

His actions damaged Mnangagwa, but helped Chiwenga. Mnangagwa blocked Ncube from becoming Midlands chairperson as he battled former chair Daniel McKenzie Ncube. Mavima, who has no political capital, became the compromise chair.

This enraged Mudha and he became destructive as he lashed out in all directions, using fear and violence, insiders say.

While Mudha continued to defy Mnangagwa, he was also at war with First Lady Auxillia in Kwekwe.

Auxillia, who was backing local gold magnate Kandross Mugabe for the Kwekwe central seat, was involved in direct confrontation with losing 2018 parliamentary candidate Energy Ncube, nephew of Mudha, during the primaries in 2020.

In October 2020, Zanu-PF primary polls to choose a Kwekwe Central parliamentary candidate for a by-election turned bloody following intense clashes between rival groups at Kwekwe district offices.

Police had to fire warning shots after being called to contain the situation which had spiralled out of control as factions bludgeoned each other over the voters’ roll, with Mudha accused of being among the chief instigators of the violence.

In a leaked voice recording ,party supporters in the Midlands talk about Mudha’s violent machinations in the province, describing how youths were hired to bruitalise rival factions.

In the audio, recorded after a provincial meeting in Gweru, party supporters say Mudha had become a de facto leader in the Midlands. “Mudha is doing what he wants here. He would shut down anyone who would stand up to speak during the meeting. Some politburo members had to ask him for permission to speak.”

“The power that Mnangagwa has given Mudha is too much,” an unidentified supporter said.

Observers say Mudha overestimated his importance in Mnangagwa’s camp, but it remains to be seen whether Mnangagwa will discard his blue eyed boy forever or he will resurface in another portfolio.-newshawks

Firefighters In Mass Exodus Abroad

By A Correspondent- Samuel Chikengezha, a 35-year-old fireman, sits on a sofa in his modest home, staring at the television set while he stresses over how he’ll make ends meet this month.

He has not yet paid school fees for his three children, he said – one of many financial challenges he faces because the money he pulls in as a first responder in Zimbabwe has not kept pace with inflation for years.

“I survive on borrowings from friends and family to get by as the money is barely enough,” he told Al Jazeera.

Like many of his colleagues, Chikengezha reckons the solution to his financial woes is to leave Zimbabwe for a higher-paying job abroad.

“I want to leave the country. Every one of us wants to leave for other countries. We are all in waiting mode, really,” he said. “Once an opportunity presents itself, I am out.”

Zimbabwe’s economy was already on its knees before the pandemic struck, and COVID-19 has only made things worse.

Salaries are stagnant, foreign currency is in short supply, and the purchasing power of the Zimbabwean dollar continues to erode, with annual inflation topping 60 percent at the close of last year. Manufacturing is low, and poverty is rising along with prices for everything, including essentials like food and fuel.

Now the economic carnage is threatening essential public services by triggering a massive brain drain in critical sectors.

Harare City Council, which runs the Zimbabwean capital’s fire department, said the city lost 125 firefighters last year.

Council spokesperson Innocent Ruwende told Al Jazeera that they left to chase more lucrative jobs overseas, mostly in Middle East Gulf states.

“Our firefighters are in demand because they are highly trained,” he said.
The draw of higher pay, better conditions

The allure of a more lucrative, more stable payday abroad is an enticing proposition for Chikengezha, who currently brings home $200 a month.

“Entry salaries [abroad] are somewhere in the region of $1,300-$1,500,” he said.

1t’s not just firefighters who are chasing bigger paycheques. Brain drain is also roiling Zimbabwe’s healthcare sector. With the pandemic increasing demand for healthcare workers around the globe, Zimbabwe lost some 2,000 healthcare professionals last year, according to state media. That is more than double the exodus rate of 2020.

The President of the Zimbabwe Nurses Association, Enock Dongo, told Al Jazeera that poor remuneration and working conditions are compelling more nurses to seek positions outside of the troubled Southern African nation, where nurses earn less than $200 a month.

“The salaries of nurses in Zimbabwe are too low. Even when compared to peers in the Southern African region, Zimbabwean nurses are the least paid,” Dongo told Al Jazeera.

He also noted that a lack of personal protective equipment has made conditions for nurses in Zimbabwe “really dangerous”.
The public outcry

As the number of firefighters dwindles, a public outcry has ensued, accusing the first responders of poor services.

In November, Harare’s fire department was heavily criticised over a penthouse blaze that cost the life of investment banker Douglas Munatsi.

Acting Chief Fire Officer Clever Mafoti defended the performance of the fire department, saying trees had prevented aerial ladders from being deployed to rescue Munatsi on the ninth floor.

And while Mafoti acknowledges that an exodus of firefighters is having an impact, he insists the service is still there for the people of Harare when it counts.

“Our ability to execute our duties has been ailing or diminishing but we are still able to fulfill our duties,” he told Al Jazeera. “We have not reached a stage where we have failed to discharge our duties and just let people’s properties burn to the ground.”

But Mafoti said financial constraints are taking a toll beyond personnel shortages – specifically with ageing fire trucks.

“[The city] council has promised us some vehicles, but as you know, this is normally a process,” he said.

On the healthcare front, pregnant women in Glen View and Budiriro, both high-density suburbs south of Harare, no longer have antenatal care at specialty clinics because there are no nurses on staff to provide those services.

“Specially trained nurses such as antenatal ones have left to look for better opportunities elsewhere,” said Harare City Council spokesperson Ruwende, adding that he’s looking for partners to provide funding in United States dollars to hire increasingly scarce talent.

“People prefer to earn US dollars and they are refusing our offers for jobs,” he said.-Aljazeera

Gvt Seizes Chombo’s Farm

By A Correspondent- Government is continuing its retributive land seizures targeting political opponents, real or imagined, this time cancelling former Finance minister Ignatius Chombo’s 99-year lease for Allan Grange Farm in Zvimba.

Chombo, who was arrested, tortured and detained by the military during the 2017 military coup which toppled former president Robert Mugabe and catapulted President Emmerson Mnangagwa into power, was seen as a key member of the G40 faction.

The G40 faction had coalesced around Mugabe and his wife Grace, and was pushing for former Defence minister Sydney Sekeramayi to succede the former president, instead of Mnangagwa.

The Mnangagwa administration has also targeted farms owned by other G40 members, among them former ministers Jonathan Moyo, Saviour Kasukuwere and Patrick Zhuwao.

Some perceived critics such as Osisa boss Siphosami Malunga and Fred Mutanda have also been targeted under the farm-grabbing blitz. Malunga, the son of national hero Sydney, and his business associates Charles Moyo and Zephania Dlamini are battling for their farm in court.

The farm has been allocated to Zanu-PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu and National University for Science and Technology (Nust) lecturer Dumisani Madzivanyati, among other people.

Part of Chombo’s farm has been allocated to his estranged former wife Marian, and some unnamed individuals who invaded the land.

In a letter dated 21 September 2021 and delivered to Chombo’s lawyers on 10 January 2022, Lands minister Anxious Masuka cited government’s one man one farm policy, government policy on spousal rights to land upon divorce, and a court order in favour of Marian Chombo as some of the reasons for the lease withdrawal.

Earlier, in 2021, Masuka had written to Chombo, giving a lease cancellation notice, with the intention to allocate part of the farm to Marian Chombo and other settlers.

In response to the minister’s proposal, Chombo made reference to a valid 10-year joint venture which had invested more than US$2 million which the ministry had authorised as one of the reasons why it would be difficult to withdraw the lease.

The joint venture, which started in 2018 and will run until 2028, had resulted in investment in farming equipment such as centre pivots and a new farm manager’s house, among other improvements, resulting in increased production.

Chombo argued that the distribution of assets between him and his former spouse was a prerogative of the courts, and not the ministry.

He later invited the minister and his officials to the farm, to appreciate the huge investment before making decisions. Chombo also informed the minister that although Allan Grange Farm was 3 000 hectares in extent, only 505 hectares is arable, hence the proposed subdivision would not be of much benefit to the new beneficiaries because the bigger part is covered by a range of mountains.

He also argued that the farm was highly productive and should not be considered for repossession, given that there are many idle farms.

Despite the submissions, the minister withdrew the lease. He told Chombo that he entered the joint venture without the consent of his ex-wife. Masuka said although the farm was productive, Marian had a right to claim a share.

“The rights of beneficiaries trump the production levels. Productivity ought to be weighed up against other factors like enjoyment of rights by other parties to an agreement,” he said.

The minister said he did not need to visit the farm since a team from the ministry had done so prior to the lease cancellation.

He said Chombo will be allocated a portion of the land after the replanning exercise. Commenting on the issue, a female lawyer and women’s rights activist said other former spouses of Zanu-PF bigwigs should benefit from land in a similar manner.

“The controversial policy regarding spousal access to land upon divorce has been laid bare, thanks to Dr Masuka. Ironically, the same policy has only applied to a sacked Zanu-PF bigwig,” she said.

“Our government has never seriously considered women as direct beneficiaries of agricultural land, as such, women are now getting land through the back door. This means that all former wives of bigwigs, the likes of Tambudzani Mohadi, Tracy Mutinhiri, Mary Chiwenga, Jocelyn Chiwenga, Florence Ziyambi and many more can smile all the way the the minister’s office for redress.”

“Mwonzora’s Manouvre Will Confirm Zim Is A Pariah State”: Prof Jonathan Moyo

By A Correspondent- Political scientist Professor Jonathan Moyo says Douglas Mwonzora’s manoeuvre for the MDC-T to contest the 26 March by-elections under the MDC-Alliance banner is null and void at law and would confirm the country as a pariah state if allowed by the courts or the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec).

Mwonzora wrote to Zec on 3 January indicating he is president of the MDC-Alliance, based on the pre-2018 election pact which MDC-T was part of.

He also informed the electoral body that other MDC formations should cease using the MDC acronym.

“We are the owners of the Movement for Democratic Change name,” Mwonzora wrote in the letter.

“Over the years, there has been so many derivatives put on it. However, the leadership of this party was defined by the Supreme Court in the judgement in SC 56/20. Pursuant to this judgement the party held its extraordinary congress on December 27, 2020, where I was elected the substantive president of the party.

“By virtue of the Composite Political Agreement signed on August 5, 2017, and the subsequent meetings of the MDC Alliance, I assumed the leadership of the MDC Alliance.”

However, in a series of Tweets political scientist Prof Jonathan Moyo said the 2017 MDC-Alliance was not a political party, but an alliance ahead of the 2018 polls. The MDC-Alliance only existed as a party in 2019 after the alliance failed to win the polls and is therefore different to the 2017 alliance.

“No one needs to be a lawyer to know that the 2017 MDC-A was not a political party, but a pre2018 election alliance; meant to become a post2018 election coalition govt, had the pre-election alliance won the 2018 poll. The 2017 MDC-A was thus only a pre-2018 election alliance,” Moyo said.

“Agreements have a duration. The 2017 MDC-A pre-2018 election agreement did not mutate into a post-2018 election coalition government; because the pre-2018 election alliance (MDC-A) did not win the 2018 election. As such, the 2017 pre-election (MDC-A) agreement expired in 2018.

“Since 2018, no pre-election alliance agreement has been entered into by @OurMDCT with any party for 2022 by-elections or 2023 elections or any elections. The @OurMDCT cannot use an expired 2018 agreement, which was never renewed, for 2022 by-elections or 2023 elections. No!

Finally, one need not hold a brief for @nelsonchamisa to realise that his @mdczimbabwe is not connected to the 2017 (MDC-A) pre-2018 election Agreement nor to any pre-election alliance; it’s a political party in its own right formed in 2019 and is entitled to its full rights.”

In another thread, Moyo described Mwonzora’s letter as shocking. He said if Zec or the courts allow MDC-T to contest the by-elections as the MDC-Alliance, Zimbabwe would be confirmed as a pariah state.

“@DMwonzora and his @OurMDCT present their quest to contest the by-elections as a legal matter, premised on the 2017 pre-2018 election pact, but their arguments are all propaganda based on an agreement that expired long ago when the 2017 Alliance did not form govt in 2018,” Moyo said.

“The 2017 pre-election Alliance pact that expired in 2018, after the Alliance did not win the poll to form a govt which would have extended the pact to 2023, had one and clear identity which was to use, not a common name but a common election symbol for all candidates.

“The expired 2017 Alliance pact says each alliance partner candidate shall seek nomination at the Nomination Court under its name, but using the alliance common symbol; yet @DMwonzora’s ZEC letter lists only @OurMDCT officials to approve nominations; even for other parties.”

Moyo also said Mwonzora falsely claims that the expired pact provided that the leader of the MDC-T would lead the alliance. “No. It said the ‘presidential candidate’ would be the ‘best individual who can win the election’ & specifically named that individual as Morgan Tsvangirai,” Moyo said.

Moyo added that whereas Mwonzora indicated that he was the president of the MDC-Alliance, the expired 2017 pre-election pact did not create offices or officers, but only provided for election candidates.

“Tsvangirai was the presidential candidate, not President, of the Alliance,” Moyo said.

“As a result of the Supreme Court judgment of 31 March 2020 in the Mashavira case, Hon Mwonzora is debatably Tsvangirai’s successor as MDC-T leader; but it is not debatable that he did not and could not inherit Tsvangirai’s popularity as the ‘best presidential candidate’.

“All told @OurMDCT’s claim to the MDC-A name is based on a non-existent 2017 pre-election Alliance Agreement that expired in 2018; and Hon @DMwonzora’s claim that he is President of the MDC-A is based on a non-existent office, not even in the 2017 pre-2018 election agreement!”

ED Hints At Mandatory Vaccination On The Streets

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Saturday threatened to make COVID-19 vaccination mandatory, saying his government has sourced enough vaccinations to inoculate everyone.

Mnangagwa made the remarks while addressing a ZANU PF politburo meeting in Harare. He said:

Altogether we have now received over 12 million doses from China as donations. So there is no need for anybody to remain unvaccinated.

There are so many vaccine doses that we will soon be stopping people on the streets to vaccinate them.

I would like to commend those who have heeded my clarion call to get a booster vaccine dose.

Government will continue mobilising vaccines to ensure that lives and livelihoods are saved and protected.

In the same issue of risk reduction, I call upon the nation to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and adhere to the set containment measures.

According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Health and Child Care, on Saturday, 15 January 2022, 4 203 858 have received one dose, 3 228 693 have been jabbed twice, while a paltry 25 798 have received booster shots.

Meanwhile, on Friday, Acting President Constantino Chiwenga extended the Level Two COVID-19 lockdown measures by a further two weeks.

He hinted that schools may be reopened in the second week of February.-standard

“Africans Are Managing Poverty While Others Manage Wealth!” – SA Has Hope For Change, Zim Has None

By Nomusa Garikai- Dear Lindiwe Sisulu

Your article in a local publication titled “Hi Mzansi, have we seen justice?” is a good read. It raised many important questions that demand serious debate, even if there are no ease answers. Thank you!

As a black Zimbabwean, I would say Robert Mugabe, if he was alive today, would have taken great comfort from this article because he has taken back the land from the whites and did a number of things you are arguing black ruled South Africa must do.

“Their (white colonialists) purpose was rooted in the philosophy of white supremacy and entitlement to everything, including the bodies of those they falsely believed to be inferior. It was simply to take and colonise and defend, for kith and kin. It was about power. Economic power, political power, military power, and social power.”

The purpose of Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies was to seize political power and to loot the nation’s wealth.

Nelson Mandela has been heavily criticised for failing to give back the land to blacks and end black poverty; the criticism is founded if one considers that these economic realities are true. I would argue that Mandela did not end black poverty but he did the next best thing- he created democratic South Africa in which every black have a voice.

As long as SA remains a healthy and functioning democracy, in which people like Ms Sisulu has the opportunity to express their views and there is open and vigorous debate, the country has the opportunity to address its problems in a rational and systematic way. A luxury a country like Zimbabwe was denied by Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies.

Nelson Mandela’s legacy for SA was to make sure the country had a democracy constitution and strong and independent democratic institutions. The same solid democratic foundation that George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and others gifted America.

“In our beloved South Africa, a new constitution in 1994 and the rule of law took on a new lofty meaning after the deck had been heavily stacked against the victims of the “rule of law.” It was a new dispensation of justice after centuries of a vicious oppression of the indigenous of the land by invaders. But what has this beautiful constitution done for the victims except as a palliative (Panadol)?” argued Ms Sisulu.

“But it seems today we have legitimised wrongdoing under the umbrella of the rule of law. Many years down the line, Africans manage poverty while others manage wealth.”

America started a half free and half slave but the country’s democratic constitution has served them well. SA has started half rich and half poor, one hopes its democratic constitution will serve it well too. As for Zimbabwe we started with no democratic constitution, we are a house without a foundation, are in deep, deep trouble.

Once again, thank you my sister for the thought-provoking article.

“School Fees Adjustments Should Be Approved By Ministry”: Gvt

By A Correspondent- The Government has directed all public schools that intend to increase their tuition fees and school development levies for the 2022 first term to apply for approval from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education before making any changes.

In an interview with State media, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education director of communication and advocacy Taungana Ndoro said unilateral fees adjustments by schools will not be binding on parents.

Said Ndoro:

Parents and the schools must have school development plans and budgets every year. They put the budget proposals, including any proposed school fees adjustments, to a vote and they come up with a consensus on whether to adjust school fees.

They then approach the ministry with that adjustment proposal for the ministry to validate or approve that agreed position.

So what the ministry does is endorse an already agreed position between the parents and the school.

Where you have issues of parents complaining, it is either perhaps they have not attended the meeting or they were outvoted. We don’t impose any school fees structure on any school.

According to the Education Act, any tuition fees increase has to be approved by a majority of the parents at a meeting of the School Parents Assembly attended by not less than 20 per cent of the parents.

The school authorities will then present an application for an adjustment accompanied by minutes of the meeting and the school budget to the Ministry for consideration. Added Ndoro:

We cannot say we are going to adjust fees when some schools are comfortable with the school fees that was approved last time.

We look at the applications on a case by case basis. One school’s needs differ from those of the next because school development projects are different.

Some may want to build a school hall, others want to build a tennis court and others want to build hostels, so their needs are very different.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Schools Development Association/Committees secretary-general Evaristo Jongwe said the majority of parents are failing to pay tuition for their children, especially in rural and resettlement areas. He said:

The tuition fees structure is determined by an individual school’s scenario.

Parents and the school administration agree on set figures according to their needs, wants and projects for the school.

However, I must admit that parents are facing challenges with tuition fees adjustments because of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a result, the average rate of school fees collection remains below 50 per cent and the demand for COVID-19 materials also remains a challenge.

The worst affected schools are those in rural, farm and peri-urban areas.

War Veterans Petition Mnangagwa Over Rigged Mutare Party Elections

War veterans and war collaborators in Manicaland Province said they would soon meet President Emmerson Mnangagwa over the provincial elections they claimed were rigged.

The war veterans have since refused to recognise Mike Madiro as the Zanu PF provincial chairperson after he was declared the winner in the 28 December elections, alleging rigging.

Members of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) and the Zimbabwe Liberation War Collaborators Association (ZILIWACO) met at Mutare hall in Mutare last week and resolved to engage President Emmerson Mnangagwa over the matter.

Albert Nyakuedzwa, who lost to Madiro, and his supporters claim the elections were rigged.

Speaking on behalf of the war veterans after the meeting, war veteran Stembile Zimunya said they want Mnangagwa to “revisit” the outcome of the Zanu PF Manicaland provincial elections. She said:

The President should be given the correct results, we want to tell our President that with the current situation Manicaland has gone to the opposition and the issue of elections should be addressed as soon as possible.

We have decided that there should be a re-run. The opposition is laughing at us because of what happened in the province.

Yes, we are not disputing what the Politburo said but we are pleading with Emmerson to revisit the issue of Manicaland.

ZILIWACO secretary for administration in Buhera District, Enock Mukushwa, said they want a re-run of the elections. Said Mukushwa:

Electoral corruption was rampant in Buhera district among other areas. The results which came out are not a true representation, and we want a re-run.

ZNLWA national political commissar Joel Mureremba said he will continue fighting for Nyakuedzwa’s cause even it if means imprisonment for him. He said:

I don’t have any challenge with what the Politburo said but when I was given the provincial election results Nyakuedzwa had won only to realise later that the results have been changed.

The results should be corrected. We were arrested during the former late President Mugabe, we slept in the cells at Mutare Central so l am not afraid to be arrested.

There are people who are stopping us from meeting President Mnangagwa but we are going to find a way to meet him.

Meanwhile, Madiro on Saturday told The Standard that he will “not comment on such wild claims.”

President Chamisa Hints At New Party Name

By A Correspondent- MDC Alliance president Nelson Chamisa has hinted, yet again, that the opposition party will adopt a new name as the party gears up for the 26 March by-elections and 2023 harmonised elections.

The MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora said it will use the MDC Alliance as its name in elections, leaving Chamisa’s party without a name.

Mwonzora has gone as far as writing a letter to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) asking the electoral body not to allow any other political party to use the name MDC or its derivatives in any election as it is their identity.

Tweeting on Sunday morning, Chamisa hinted of a new party name by referring to a Biblical story of a quarrel between the patriarch, Isaac and the Philistines over wells of water.

The Philistines were jealous of Isaac’s wealth and they claimed a spring he had dug as theirs.

Isaac then dug another well and gave it a new name, and yet again, the Philistines claimed it as theirs, forcing him to move to another place and digging another well and giving it a different name.

Wrote Chamisa:

WE WILL FLOURISH… Then they dug another well, but they quarrelled over that one also; so he named it Sitnah.

He moved on from there &dug another well, no one quarrelled over it. He named it Rehoboth, saying, “Now the LORD has given us room & we will flourish in the land.” Genesis: 26.20-22.

University of Kent law lecturer, Alex Magaisa, a former advisor to the late MDC founding president, Morgan Tsvangirai, recently urged Chamisa to abandon the MDC brand and adopt a new name for the party

Magaisa argued that there are some battles that are not worth fighting. That was after the Chamisa-led party had vowed not to give up the MDC Alliance name without a fight.
