Rinomhota On The Move

Andy Rinomhota is set to leave English Championship side Rotherham and return to his parent club Cardiff City at the end of the season.

The midfielder is on a six-month loan deal from City and will not make his stay a permanent one.

According to English outlet, The Rotherham Advertiser, the Warriors international is among the several players set to leave the club in the coming months.

The publication wrote: “Viktor Johansson is set to be sold, despite having a year left at AESSEAL New York, as a release clause means he can depart if interested clubs offer a certain figure, while loanees Seb Revan, Arvin Appiah, Andy Rinomhota, Charlie Wyke and Femi Seriki will bid farewell.”

Rinomhota moved to Rotherham in January in search of game time after losing his place in the squad at Cardiff City.

Following the transfer, he became a regular in the first XI team at his new club.

His contract at Cardiff is set to expire in June 2025.

Barriade Investments Pressures Sheriff to Evict Mashamhanda Prematurely

By A Correspondent| In the ongoing legal battle between Barriade Investments (Pvt) Ltd and local businessman Tendai Mashamhanda, a contentious issue has emerged over the impending eviction of Mashamhanda from a property valued at US$1,500,000.

Recent legal documents reviewed by this publication reveal a dispute arising from a series of correspondences exchanged between the involved parties, notably a letter dated March 26, 2024, from the Applicant. This letter has drawn criticism for allegedly pressuring the Sheriff to expedite Mashamhanda’s eviction.

Barriade Investments, through its legal representatives, expressed dissatisfaction with the Sheriff’s actions, citing previous notices issued on December 8, 2023, and February 26, 2024. The Applicant contends that no further notice is required and instructs the Sheriff to proceed urgently with executing the writ of eviction. Failure to comply may lead to legal action against the Sheriff and formal complaints to judicial authorities, the letter warns.

In response, Mashamhanda’s legal team raised concerns over what they perceive as an attempt to manipulate the legal system for premature eviction. They argue that the Applicant misinterpreted a High Court order issued on March 21, 2024, in case HCH1189/24.

Mashamhanda’s representatives point out the Applicant’s apparent unawareness of Rule 60(19) of the High Court Rules 2021, which dictates the handling of non-urgent applications. They emphasize that such cases are transferred to the ordinary court roll without the need for fresh applications.

“This means that case HCH1189/24 has simply been transferred to the ordinary court roll and is still pending,” states Mashamhanda’s legal team. “In light of the clear and unambiguous meaning of the said Rule, the Sheriff cannot and should not carry out the eviction until the matter HCH1189/24, which is before the Courts, has been determined.”

Furthermore, Mashamhanda’s legal team asserts that the initial failure to execute the eviction was not due to an interdict or stay of execution but because of the pending court application. They argue that the Sheriff should stay execution until the matter is resolved, as per established legal practice.

Fatal Stabbing at Sports Bar Shocks Community

By A Correspondent

Tragedy struck at a sports bar in Pumula South, Bulawayo on the evening of March 30, 2024, as Notho Sibanda, aged 38, lost his life in a senseless act of violence.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 20:40 hours, has prompted a thorough investigation by the police in Pumula.

According to reports from law enforcement authorities, the victim, Notho Sibanda, intervened to prevent a violent altercation between a group of individuals, including a suspect identified only as “Sibho,” and another patron during a beer-drinking spree at the sports bar.

In a tragic turn of events, Sibho and his three unidentified accomplices allegedly attacked Sibanda, stabbing him once in the thigh and once in the back with an unknown sharp object.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but it is evident that the confrontation escalated rapidly, resulting in the loss of a life and leaving the community in shock and mourning.

As investigations continue, the police are urging anyone with information about the incident or the identities of the perpetrators to come forward and report to the nearest police station.

Acts of violence, particularly those leading to loss of life, have a profound impact not only on the victims and their families but also on the wider community.

Such incidents underscore the importance of fostering a culture of peace, conflict resolution, and mutual respect within society.

As authorities work diligently to bring the perpetrators to justice, it is crucial for members of the public to cooperate with the investigation and provide any relevant information that may assist in apprehending those responsible.

Additionally, community leaders, law enforcement agencies, and stakeholders must collaborate to address the underlying factors contributing to violence and promote a safer environment for all residents.

The tragic death of Notho Sibanda serves as a somber reminder of the consequences of unchecked aggression and the need for vigilance in maintaining peace and security within our communities.

Let us unite in condemning such senseless acts of violence and strive towards building a society where every individual can live without fear of harm or injustice.

Watch: Chivayo Donates Car To Scott Sakupwanya

Wicknell Chivayo has gifted his Rolls Royce Ghost to Zanu PF MP for Mabvuku-Tafara Scott Sakupwanya.

Watch video below…

Zanu PF MP infects lover with HIV…dumps her.

ZANU PF Mazowe North Member of Parliament, Tsungai Makumbe, recently dragged his estranged lover Ludia Makuvure to court accusing her of tarnishing his image and threatening him with unspecified action.

The two appeared before magistrate Johanna Mukwesha, who heard that the relationship between the two went sour after Makumbe demanded a paternity test for his minor child with the respondent.

Makumbe pleaded with the court to be granted a protection order against his ex-lover, accusing her of coming to his workplace at Zanu PF headquarters to harass him.

He said the respondent was also visiting Parliament, badmouthing him to anyone who cared to listen.

The legislator asked the court to bar the respondent from contacting his church members from Johane Masowe Chishanu in Marimba where she is allegedly spreading lies about him being involved in non-existent love affair at the church.

“She calls almost every male member of my church and lies to them that I am bedding their wives and threatens my female church mates, dragging my name into the mud since I am a leader at the church,” Makumbe said.

Makumbe also told the court that the respondent had no business visiting the Zanu PF headquarters because she does not work there, nor was she involved in any business at the party’s premises, except just being a member of the party.

Makuvure opposed Makumbe’s application and accused him of lying to the court.

She accused Makumbe of allegedly infecting her with HIV and later demanding paternity tests for the minor child.

She also told the court that she was a member of Forever Associate Zimbabwe, a shadowy Zanu PF affiliate organisation, and that her presence at the national party headquarters is unquestionable as she will be attending meetings.

Makuvure also told the court that she does not oppose Makumbe’s request for a paternity test, but asked the court to order him to maintain the minor child.

Magistrate Mukwesha granted Makumbe his application for a protection order against the respondent.

BREAKING: Another Victim of Welshman Ncube’s Qoki USD25 Million Scam Wins Bank Fraud Refund

By A Correspondent | Another victim of Prof Welshman Ncube’s USD25milion Qoki scam has been refunded her money.

Early Tuesday morning, the ZimEye news network received a voice note from the Qoki victim (name withheld) as she announced-

“I feel relieved, this thing has been stressing me day in day out,” she said while screaming that she has received GBP3.000, from her first bank claim for refund.

She becomes victim number 25 to be refunded since the day ZimEye published the first investigative articles in 2023.

Over 550 female investors from Matebeleland were duped to pay in an average of USD45,000 per person into Professor Ncube’s faction’s claim that the women are buying predominantly title deeds. The investigation reveals the title deeds are either none resistant, or totally invalid for land rights transfer.

Prof Ncube is entangled in the scam three times, as both the lawyer of the Qoki founder, Sithule Tshuma, and the lawyer for the victims. In a way that further makes money disappear, Prof Ncube is boss to the chief founder, Jimmy Chasafara who runs by the alias, Ndaba Nhuku.

Several court cases are currently underway.

Job Sikhala Alleges Poisoning By Government Agents

By A Correspondent

Former Member of Parliament for St Mary’s Constituency, Honorable Job Sikhala, has made startling allegations, suggesting that government agents attempted to poison him.

This revelation comes amidst a backdrop of political upheaval and controversy surrounding the recalls of elected officials, with Sikhala directing scathing criticism towards Sengezo Tshabangu and his associates.

In a statement addressing the suspected poisoning incident, Sikhala did not mince his words, directly implicating government operatives.

“That was the work of those who detained me in solitary confinement who are the masters of this man whose name you use here,” he asserted.

These accusations shed light on the tense political climate in which Sikhala operates, where suspicions of foul play and retaliation run rampant.

However, Sikhala’s concerns extend beyond his personal safety to broader issues of democratic integrity and political accountability. He vehemently condemned the recalls of elected officials orchestrated by Sengezo Tshabangu and his allies, labeling their actions as treacherous.

“Despite committing treachery through the wicked acts of conspiring against the will of the people by recalling elected MPs, you shall pay a price,” Sikhala declared defiantly.

His words reflect the deep-seated frustration and disillusionment felt by many within Zimbabwe’s political landscape, where democratic processes are increasingly under scrutiny.

The recalls of elected officials not only undermine the voice of the electorate but also raise concerns about the abuse of power and manipulation of democratic institutions for personal gain.

Sikhala’s bold stance against these actions serves as a rallying cry for those who champion democracy and transparency.

By speaking out against perceived injustices and threats to his safety, he embodies the resilience and determination of individuals fighting for political change in Zimbabwe.

However, his allegations of poisoning and condemnation of political recalls also underscore the challenges and risks faced by those who dare to challenge the status quo.

In a climate where dissent is met with hostility and retribution, speaking truth to power requires unwavering courage and conviction.

As the political landscape in Zimbabwe continues to evolve, the voices of individuals like Job Sikhala serve as a reminder of the enduring struggle for democracy and justice.

Their unwavering commitment to upholding democratic principles in the face of adversity inspires hope and solidarity among those who seek a brighter future for their nation.

Job Sikhala’s allegations of poisoning by government agents and condemnation of political recalls highlight the complex dynamics at play within Zimbabwe’s political arena.

His courage and determination in the face of adversity serve as a beacon of hope for those who strive for a more equitable and transparent society.

Mupfumira Says Small Houses Should Not Benefit From Deceased Estate

Prisca Mupfumira, the ZANU PF Senator for Mashonaland West province, asserts that girlfriends of married men, colloquially known as “small houses,” should not receive benefits from a deceased estate to the detriment of the deceased’s spouse.

As of 2022, the Marriages Act (Chapter 5:15) acknowledges ‘civil partnerships’—unions between a man and a woman who cohabit without the customary payment of lobola—and grants property rights to the individuals in such relationships.

During a Senate debate initiated by Mashonaland West Senator Bybit Lydia Tsomondo, Mupfumira emphasized that “small houses” should not automatically inherit from a deceased estate solely based on cohabitation.

“You find that sometimes some girlfriends end up benefitting. It might be because the husband was cohabitating with a girlfriend for three months and you find such a woman benefitting…Because he died while staying with a small house, she ends up taking everything,” said Mupfumira.

Chamisa Outlines Vision For Zimbabwe

By A Correspondent| Zimbabwean opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has outlined his ambitious vision for the country, emphasizing his commitment to radically transform Zimbabwe into a modern, fully developed nation. In a stirring statement, Chamisa articulated his profound desire to usher in an era of progress, prosperity, and unity for all Zimbabweans.

With unwavering determination, Chamisa declared:

“My vision and mandate is to RADICALLY TRANSFORM Zimbabwe into a fully developed and advanced modern nation.”

At the core of Chamisa’s vision lies the aspiration to create a democratic and inclusive society where citizens can thrive and prosper.

He envisions a Zimbabwe that is not only technologically advanced but also culturally vibrant and socially cohesive—a nation that embraces diversity and celebrates its rich heritage.

Chamisa’s vision extends beyond mere economic development; it encompasses a holistic approach to nation-building, encompassing principles of justice, tolerance, and sustainability.

He envisions a republic where every individual can live with dignity and freedom, where justice prevails, and where peace and prosperity are accessible to all.

In his statement, Chamisa outlined the key pillars of his vision, which include:

  1. Democracy and Governance: Chamisa envisions a Zimbabwean democracy that is robust, transparent, and accountable, where the voices of all citizens are heard and respected.
  2. Unity and Diversity: He emphasizes the importance of fostering unity among Zimbabweans, transcending tribal, ethnic, and political divisions to build a more cohesive and inclusive society.
  3. Safety and Security: Chamisa is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, creating an environment where people feel protected and empowered to pursue their aspirations without fear.
  4. Freedom and Justice: He advocates for a society where freedom of expression and human rights are upheld, and where justice is accessible to all, regardless of social status or political affiliation.
  5. Tolerance and Peace: Chamisa promotes a culture of tolerance and peaceful coexistence, where differences are respected, and conflicts are resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding.
  6. Sustainable Prosperity: Finally, Chamisa envisions a Zimbabwe that achieves sustainable economic growth, providing opportunities for all citizens to thrive and prosper in a rapidly changing global landscape.

In encapsulating his vision, Chamisa emphasized the urgency of accelerating transformation:

“#AccleratedTransformation”

Chamisa’s vision for Zimbabwe represents a bold and inspiring roadmap for the country’s future.

As Zimbabweans grapple with the challenges of the present, his message offers hope and a vision of a brighter tomorrow—a Zimbabwe that is not bound by the limitations of the past but propelled by the limitless potential of its people.

As the nation looks ahead, Chamisa’s vision serves as a rallying cry for unity, progress, and transformation—a call to action for all Zimbabweans to come together and build a future that is truly worthy of their aspirations and dreams.

Teachers Resist New Structured Currency

By A Correspondent| The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe has issued a stern warning against the introduction of a new structured currency, asserting that such a move will be met with staunch resistance from the working people.

In a tweet, the union emphasized that currency reform has historically been utilized to deprive workers of their incomes, savings, and pensions.

“Introduction of structured currency will attract structured resistance from the Working people.Currency reform has been consistently deployed to rob workers of incomes, savings & pensions.Zimbabweans let’s join hands & #StopTheFraud Economy is dollarised,we demand 100%USD salaries,” ARTUZ said.

Moreover, they called for solidarity among Zimbabweans to put an end to economic fraud.

The union’s stance reflects widespread concerns about the potential impact of a structured currency on an economy already heavily reliant on the US dollar.

Planned New Currency Is Empty Swap Of Uniforms By A Poor Team, Says Sabhuku Mliswa

By A Correspondent| Former Norton legislator Temba Peter Mliswa has dismissed the planned launch of a new currency saying it will be an empty swap of uniforms by a poor team.

According to the Newshawks, Zimbabwe is planning to introduce a new structured currency which will be backed by gold reserves but there has been strong criticism of the move by Zimbabweans who feel it will not save the economy from free-fall.

Posting on X, Mliswa said;

“Changing the currency isn’t much of a plan. It’s the empty swap of uniforms by a poor team. It remains itself in any attire. What is of essence is what backs the currency. We have exported all the gold& can’t back our own money. How much gold reserves do we have today.”

Former Mt Pleasant parliamentarian Fadzayi Mahere also spoke strongly against the planned launch of a new currency accusing the government of trying to ambush the nation by launching a currency without even an explanation.

“What kind of country launches a whole new currency with no legal framework, no notice, no explanation to the public as to what it will mean for the banking sector, business or the general public? How can you build trust and confidence when you govern by ambush? It’s a mess,” said Mahere.

CCC legislator for Youth quota Takudzwa Ngadziore also criticized the planned new currency saying it also already set up to fail due to lack of confidence and trust.

“The first crisis we face comes with confidence & trust. Political philosophy will tell you the importance of a , “SOCIAL CONTRACT.” Structured currency or any flowery terms will not lead to economic growth. Excruciatingly, this comes as SADC faces the El Niño drought.Over 4.4 Million Zimbabweans face the risk of hunger ! SAD,” said Ngadziore.

Church Leaders Under Spotlight For Endorsing Mnangagwa Regime

GOVERNMENT has paid tribute to indigenous churches for supporting the development mantra led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa through taking part in empowerment programmes.

Vice President Kembo Mohadi, government officials and the ZANU PF party leadership were in Gutu this Saturday were they attended a church service at the African Apostolic Church led by Mutumwa Paul Mwazha.

Addressing the gathering, Mohadi emphasised on the cordial relations between the church and government pledging government’s commitment towards improving livelihoods.

“Our presence here is a clear testimony of existing good relations between government and the church. Government looks after the welfare of its people, however our spiritual welfare is taken care of by the church. Again the church members play a part in economic development in various sectors of the economy,” he said.

Mohadi paid tribute to the church leader Mutumwa Paul Mwazha who turned 106 years this year, calling upon members to continue following his path.

“Mutumwa Paul Mwazha is among great leaders who took it upon themselves to form indigenous churches and up to today he has got a great following. He is now 106 years and today we celebrate him. It is important that you leaders and congregants continue walking on the path he taught you, following his teachings, norms and values. The most important thing is that he is still alive and he remains the church leader despite his age,” noted Mohadi.

The African Apostolic Church applauded government for supporting them through ensuring the freedom of worship.

“We want to thank our government led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa for ensuring that there is peace and unity in this country. This enables us to enjoy the freedom of worship as stated in our constitution,” noted African Apostolic Church Secretary General, Bishop Richard Juru.

The provincial leadership says it will continue working with the African Apostolic Church on all their programmes as noted by Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Honourable Ezra Chadzamira.

“We have a good working relationship with the African Apostolic Church and they support our community development initiatives,” he said.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is on record saying church plays an important role towards the development of the country.

Wicknell Scotfree After USD5mill Vanished As Police Chase Man Over USD50,000

In a shocking revelation of judicial priorities, the Zimbabwean law enforcement’s pursuit of businessman Elliot Mharadze over a USD 50,000 fraud case starkly contrasts with their lackadaisical approach toward the high-profile case of Wicknell Chivayo, involved in a scandal exceeding USD 5 million.

Elliot Mharadze, a Bulawayo businessman, has been the focal point of police efforts for the past five years, accused of defrauding individuals in a botched housing deal. Inspector Abednico Ncube, the Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, confirmed the increasing complaints against Mharadze, with counts of fraud now totaling 24. Victims were promised houses and stands that never materialized, leading to significant financial losses.

Meanwhile, Wicknell Chivayo’s case, which involves the misappropriation of over USD 5 million from the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) for a solar power project that never commenced, has seemingly been sidelined. The saga began when ZPC aimed to enhance its power generation capacity and issued a tender for the installation of a 100 megawatt solar power plant in Gwanda, which Chivayo won under dubious circumstances, thanks to alleged influence from former Energy Minister Samuel Undenge.

Despite receiving a substantial pre-payment, Chivayo is accused of diverting the funds without initiating the project, leading to a total loss of the allocated amount with nothing to show for it. The discrepancies in handling these cases raise questions about the effectiveness and impartiality of Zimbabwe’s justice and law enforcement systems.

Legal expert, Tendai Biti, criticizes the apparent disparity in handling these cases, stating, “It’s a travesty of justice that small-scale fraudsters like Mharadze are rigorously pursued while individuals involved in monumental financial scandals like Chivayo roam free. This not only undermines public trust in our judicial system but also highlights a

Mnangagwa Vows To Defeat Economic Crisis

By A Correspondent

In the face of mounting economic challenges, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has doubled down on his commitment to overcoming the nation’s economic woes.

Speaking at the ZANU PF 376th Ordinary Session of the Politburo, Mnangagwa vowed to tackle the economic crisis head-on, despite the country’s ongoing struggles.

The remarks come at a time when Zimbabwe is grappling with a myriad of economic hardships, including hyperinflation, currency instability, and widespread poverty.

Despite these daunting obstacles, Mnangagwa’s administration remains steadfast in its determination to implement reforms and revitalize the economy.

During his address, Mnangagwa emphasized the need for unity and resilience in the face of adversity. He reiterated the government’s commitment to implementing structural reforms aimed at stabilizing the economy and fostering sustainable growth.

Mnangagwa’s pledge to defeat economic challenges underscores the urgency of addressing the root causes of Zimbabwe’s economic downturn.

However, critics argue that Mnangagwa’s rhetoric rings hollow in light of the government’s track record of failed policies and lackluster economic performance.

Despite repeated promises of reform, Zimbabwe continues to face deep-seated structural problems that have hindered progress and perpetuated economic stagnation.

Moreover, Mnangagwa’s pledge comes amidst growing public discontent and protests against rising living costs and deteriorating living standards.

Many Zimbabweans have expressed frustration with the government’s inability to deliver meaningful change and improve their quality of life.

In response to Mnangagwa’s remarks, opposition leaders have called for concrete action rather than empty promises.

They argue that meaningful economic reform requires bold leadership and genuine commitment to addressing the root causes of Zimbabwe’s economic woes.

As Zimbabweans grapple with the daily realities of economic hardship, Mnangagwa’s pledge to defeat economic challenges serves as a stark reminder of the uphill battle facing the nation.

While rhetoric may offer temporary reassurance, lasting change will require concerted efforts and sustained commitment from both the government and the people.

The road ahead remains fraught with challenges, but Zimbabweans are no strangers to adversity.

With determination and resilience, they have weathered many storms in the past. As the nation stands at a crossroads, the resolve to overcome economic challenges remains unwavering.

Only time will tell whether Mnangagwa’s pledge will translate into tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary Zimbabweans or remain yet another unfulfilled promise in a nation plagued by uncertainty.

Supreme Court Maintains That Minister Kagonye Is Guilty

Supreme Court Upholds Conviction and Sentence of Former Minister Petronella Kagonye

In a definitive ruling that underscores the rigidity of legal accountability, the Supreme Court has denied former Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Petronella Kagonye’s final appeal against her conviction and sentence related to the misappropriation of 20 laptops. These laptops, donated by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) for educational purposes in Goromonzi South constituency, were diverted from their intended recipients under Kagonye’s stewardship.

Despite her release from prison in May last year, after serving 10 and two-thirds months of a 16-month sentence (discounted for good behavior), Kagonye’s appeal was more about clearing her name than altering her sentence. The Supreme Court’s rejection of her appeal leaves her with a lifelong criminal record for theft of trust property—a charge reflective of corruption given the circumstances—and a suspended one-year term looming over any future criminal dishonesty.

The heart of Kagonye’s appeal lay in two main arguments: a challenge against the legitimacy of her conviction based on an asserted lack of intent to commit theft, and a contention that her sentence was excessively harsh. These appeals sought to question the High Court’s affirmation of both her conviction and sentence, probing whether her mental state during the commission of the crime was adequately established and if the trial court’s sentence was justifiably endorsed by the higher courts.

Justice Susan Mavangira, representing the Supreme Court’s judgment alongside Justices George Chiweshe and Samuel Kudya, addressed these concerns head-on. The justices collectively found that the trial court’s decision to discredit Kagonye’s testimony—deemed “filled with inconsistencies”—was unassailable. The court thereby confirmed her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, leaving no ground for the High Court or the Supreme Court to overturn the findings of the trial magistrate, Mrs. Vongai Guwuriro.

Kagonye’s original trial resulted in a 36-month prison sentence, from which 12 months were suspended on the condition of good behavior upon release, and an additional eight months were suspended contingent on her repaying US$10,000, equivalent to the value of the laptops. The High Court, upon reviewing her initial appeal, even opined that the sentence might be considered lenient, considering the gravity of the offense.

This Supreme Court ruling not only closes Kagonye’s chapter of legal appeals but also serves as a potent reminder of the consequences of misuse of office and public trust. The decision illustrates the judiciary’s firm stance on holding public officials to account, emphasizing the importance of integrity in the stewardship of resources intended for public benefit. Through this judgment, the courts have reinforced the message that those in positions of power are not beyond the reach of law, especially when it comes to acts of corruption and misappropriation.- ZIANA

Carbon Removal Key In Dealing With Climate Change Crisis

By A Correspondent

In the ever-evolving lexicon of climate change, terms like “net zero” have taken center stage in discussions around mitigating environmental impact.

Defined by the World Meteorological Organization, this week’s focus on #ClimateDictionary sheds light on the concept of ‘Net Zero’ and its pivotal role in the battle against climate change.

Understanding Net Zero

At its core, achieving net zero involves striking a delicate balance between the amount of carbon dioxide emissions released into the atmosphere and the efforts to remove or offset those emissions.

This equilibrium is crucial in halting the relentless rise in greenhouse gas concentrations, a primary driver of climate change.

The Path to Net Zero

Transitioning to a net zero state requires a multifaceted approach that spans various sectors of society. Energy generation, transportation, industrial processes, and agricultural practices all play significant roles in the emission of greenhouse gases. To achieve net zero, these sectors must undergo a profound transformation towards sustainability and emission reduction.

Carbon Removal Efforts

Central to the concept of net zero are carbon removal efforts aimed at mitigating the impact of existing emissions.

Creating carbon sinks, such as reforestation projects and carbon capture and storage technologies, are key strategies in this endeavor. By enhancing nature-based solutions and investing in innovative technologies, the global community can enhance its capacity to remove carbon from the atmosphere effectively.

The Call for Action

The urgency of achieving net zero emissions cannot be overstated.

With each passing year, the window of opportunity to prevent catastrophic climate change narrows. Bold and decisive actions are required at all levels of society, from individual lifestyle changes to sweeping policy reforms on a global scale.

Collaborative Solutions

International cooperation and collaboration are paramount in the quest for net zero emissions.

Governments, businesses, civil society organizations, and individuals must work together to accelerate the transition to a sustainable and resilient future. Initiatives like the UNDP’s Climate Promise provide valuable resources and guidance to support countries in their efforts towards net zero.

Conclusion

In the fight against climate change, achieving net zero emissions stands as a critical milestone.

By embracing this concept and taking decisive actions to reduce and offset greenhouse gas emissions, humanity can forge a path towards a more sustainable and equitable future for generations to come.

Let us seize the opportunity to turn the tide on climate change and build a world where net zero is not just a goal but a reality.

Druggies Escape Jail

In a recent crackdown on drug-related offenses, 19 individuals were sentenced to varying penalties, ranging from community service to significant fines, in a concerted effort to combat the drug menace. Despite the severity of their crimes, many of these offenders have managed to avoid jail time, sparking a conversation about the efficacy of the legal system in deterring drug trafficking and possession.

Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national police spokesperson, has been vocal about the ongoing campaign to “name and shame” drug lords and suppliers. This initiative has led to the publication of lists on two occasions, aiming to publicly expose those involved in the drug trade. Among the latest to be sentenced are individuals caught with various illegal substances, from mbanje (marijuana) and unregistered medicines to more dangerous drugs like crystal meth and cocaine.

The sentences handed down reflect a wide range of penalties. Wandile Dakamela and Tsitsi Kwaramba each received 12-month sentences for possession of mbanje and unregistered medicines, respectively. On the lighter end of the spectrum, individuals such as Blessing Muparadonha and Michelle Masango were fined for possession of mbanje and a high-energy drink, respectively. The variation in sentencing, according to judicial authorities, depends on the specifics of each case, including the quantity of drugs involved, which can indicate whether the drugs were for personal use or for distribution.

This disparity in sentencing raises questions about the justice system’s approach to drug-related offenses. Critics argue that fines and community service do little to deter the distribution and use of illegal substances, suggesting that more stringent measures are necessary to tackle the problem effectively. The naming and shaming strategy, while controversial, reflects a determination to address drug abuse and trafficking publicly.

Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe has emphasized the government’s commitment to eliminating drug cartels operating within or through Zimbabwe. Alongside legal measures, the police have launched drug abuse awareness campaigns and operations, such as “No to Drug and Substance Abuse,” to curb the drug trade and educate the public about the dangers of drug use.

Despite these efforts, the continued flow of drugs into and through Zimbabwe highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement and the judiciary. The variety of illicit drugs available in the country—including depressants, stimulants, hallucinogens, narcotics, and even substances like skin lighteners and body enlargement products—points to a complex and multifaceted issue.

The fight against drug abuse and trafficking is not only about apprehending and sentencing offenders but also about addressing the root causes of drug addiction and improving the rehabilitation options for those caught in the cycle of abuse. As the legal system evolves to better combat drug-related crimes, a balanced approach that includes prevention, education, and rehabilitation, alongside punitive measures, may offer the best chance of success in this ongoing battle.

Chinese National Arrested Over $200,000 Fraud

A Chinese national, Li Bowen, 33, known also by the alias Robert, has been formally charged with fraud. He made his initial court appearance before regional magistrate Mrs. Marehwanazvo Gofa. The allegations against him involve a fraudulent money transfer deal that reportedly relieved a man of a staggering US$200,000.

The incident, which took place on March 18, revolves around Li allegedly deceiving the complainant and one Edson Makuvise. He is accused of promising them cash in exchange for a transfer of US$200,000 into his company’s (Hebei Chengxin Co Ltd) Bank of China account, purportedly for chemicals. Acting on Li’s assurances, the complainant proceeded to transfer the hefty sum into the specified account and provided Li with the payment proof.

However, the promise of cash in return proved to be illusory. Li Bowen reportedly started to dodge the complainant and Makuvise when they attempted to retrieve their money, prompting them to seek the assistance of the police.

The prosecuting authority, represented by Mr. Loveti Muringwa, laid out the charges, highlighting the significant financial loss suffered by the complainant—to the tune of US$200,000, with no recovery made to date.

In the courtroom, Li Bowen was granted bail set at US$500 and is scheduled to make his next court appearance on April 30. The case has attracted attention, showcasing the ongoing challenges of financial fraud and the international nature of such criminal activities. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter as they prepare for the upcoming court proceedings.-state media

Guardiola Speaks On Title Chances

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola believes Liverpool are now favourites to win the English Premier League title after they returned to the top of the table on Sunday.

The Reds beat Brighton 2-1, and with goalless result coming from the game between City and Arsenal, they opened a two-point lead at the top.

Speaking after their match at the Etihad, Pep Guardiola said: “Yes. Always who is first is favourites, second is Arsenal and we are third.”

When asked if there is any concern that City may run out of matches to catch Liverpool, the gaffer added “It’s not in our hands.

All we can do is think of Aston Villa [on Wednesday]. If you are top of the league – like we’ve been before – you are favourites.

“We take the point. We tried. We didn’t create much, they didn’t create much. They defended very compactly and had a lot of quality and physicality. As a team, we’re still there.

“We could have more in some aspects, but I’m satisfied. I told the team ‘don’t be sad’. You have to give credit to Arsenal for the things they do. Maybe we miss a little it in the final third but it is not easy.”

Mnangagwa Seizes Church Pulpit During Easter

By A Correspondent

In a scene that has become all too familiar, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa once again found himself at the center of controversy for seizing a religious platform to promote his political agenda.

This time, it was during the Easter Celebrations at the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) at Mbungo Estates, Masvingo.

The move, upon the invitation of the church’s leader, Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi, has raised eyebrows and left ordinary congregants bewildered.

Mnangagwa’s propensity for grabbing the pulpit to advance his political objectives is well documented, and this latest incident only adds to the ongoing debate surrounding the separation of church and state in Zimbabwe.

During the event, Mnangagwa took to the pulpit, quoting Psalms 122 verse 1: “I was happy when they said let’s go to the house of the Lord.”

He emphasized the importance of prayer and faith in governance, stating, “No Government is created without the hand of God so we must pray to God.”

This sentiment, while seemingly innocuous, underscores Mnangagwa’s efforts to intertwine religious rhetoric with his political message.

Acknowledging the role of prayer in achieving peace, Mnangagwa expressed gratitude to the ZCC for their prayers for the country and emphasized their contribution to the peaceful conduct of elections.

He capitalized on the Easter theme of resurrection, drawing parallels between Jesus Christ’s triumph over death and his party’s electoral victory, stating, “Our people of Zimbabwe spoke and our party ZANU PF registered a resounding victory.”

However, critics argue that Mnangagwa’s presence at the Easter Celebrations was not solely about religious observance but rather a calculated attempt to curry favor with the electorate ahead of upcoming elections. By aligning himself with the church, Mnangagwa seeks to portray himself as a devout leader, thereby bolstering his image and legitimacy in the eyes of voters.

Furthermore, Mnangagwa’s appropriation of religious language and symbols for political gain raises concerns about the erosion of secularism and the blurring of lines between the state and religious institutions.

His use of the pulpit as a platform for partisan messaging undermines the principle of religious neutrality enshrined in Zimbabwe’s constitution and risks alienating members of the public who may not share his political beliefs.

In response to Mnangagwa’s address, some within the church community have voiced their disapproval, viewing his presence as an intrusion into sacred space.

One congregant, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed dismay, stating, “Easter should be a time for reflection and spiritual renewal, not political grandstanding.”

Despite the controversy, Mnangagwa’s appearance at the ZCC Easter Celebrations underscores the intertwined nature of religion and politics in Zimbabwean society.

As the country grapples with economic challenges and political uncertainty, the role of faith-based organizations in shaping public discourse and influencing electoral outcomes remains significant.

In the aftermath of Mnangagwa’s address, the debate over the appropriate relationship between religion and politics is likely to intensify.

Whether his actions are seen as a sincere expression of faith or a cynical ploy for political advantage depends on one’s perspective.

However, what is clear is that the boundaries between the sacred and the secular are increasingly blurred in Zimbabwe’s complex political landscape.

Mambo Dhuterere Faces Arrest Over Land Scam

Gospel musician, Mambo Dhuterere and his wife are facing threat of arrest after allegedly defrauding members of their church, the Saint John Apostolic Church in a land scam.

Church members accuse Dhuterere of failing to deliver on promises of allocating residential stands in Manyame area or refunding substantial sums of money collected since 2023.

Victims of the purported scam, ranging from Zimbabwean nationals to congregants from South Africa, have come forward with documented evidence and WhatsApp messages, demanding refunds for monies collected under false pretenses.

According to affidavits obtained by this publication, aggrieved members of the church allege that Mambo Dhuterere and his wife solicited payments with promises of allocating residential stands.

However, upon investigation, it was revealed that the land in question lacked proper documentation, infrastructure, and was not earmarked for residential purposes.

The couple allegedly acquired the land as a token of appreciation from certain Zanu-PF leaders for their electoral jingles during the 2023 campaigning period.

Despite assurances of proper documentation and development plans, victims discovered discrepancies upon visiting the site, leading to accusations of deceit and fraud.

Efforts to reach Mambo Dhuterere’s wife for comment were unsuccessful.

Tragedy Strikes: Infant Drowns During Church Gathering in Harare

By A Correspondent

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is currently investigating a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded during a church gathering on the 30th of March, 2024, in Tafara, Harare.

The incident involved the tragic drowning of an 18-month-old infant in an uncovered well while the child’s mother was attending a church service.

According to the statement released by the ZRP, the incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of prioritizing children’s safety in all environments, including religious gatherings.

A ZRP source said :

“The loss of this innocent life is deeply saddening.

The circumstances surrounding the infant’s tragic demise raise concerns about the adequacy of safety measures within the premises where the church service was being held.

While the investigation is ongoing, it is imperative for authorities and community members to assess and address any safety lapses that may have contributed to this devastating incident.

In light of this tragedy, community leaders and religious institutions are encouraged to take proactive measures to ensure the safety of all individuals, particularly vulnerable children.

This includes implementing stringent safety protocols, conducting regular inspections of premises, and educating congregants about potential hazards.

“The safety and well-being of children should be paramount in every setting, including places of worship,” added the police source.

“We implore all parents and guardians to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to safeguard their children from harm.”

As the investigation continues, the ZRP urges anyone with information regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident to come forward and assist with their inquiries.

Additionally, they remind the public to report any safety concerns or hazards they may encounter in their communities to relevant authorities promptly.

Former CCC leader Nelson Chamisa has paid homage to his neighbor, the late Jestias Tungamirai Chigerwe, a revered educationist and one of the longest-serving school heads in Gutu South.

Chigerwe died on 29 March and was buried at his rural home in Gutu.

Chamisa, who shared a neighborhood with Chigerwe in Gutu South, delivered a moving speech during the burial ceremony, recalling the profound impact of the late educationist on the community.

He remarked, “Gutu South has lost a visionary leader and a significant community figure.”

The funeral, attended by prominent politicians, church members, business owners, Ministry of Education officials, former and current Gutu South teachers, school heads, Teachers’ Unions Representatives, students, as well as village heads, among others, reflected the widespread influence and respect Mr. Chigerwe commanded.

Describing Chigerwe as a strict disciplinarian dedicated to the growth and development of his students, President Chamisa emphasized the invaluable contributions of the late educator to the field of education. “Mr. Chigerwe’s legacy will continue to inspire generations to come,” he added.

Chigerwe’s illustrious career spanned decades, starting before Zimbabwe gained independence.

He served as the headmaster of Rumhizha Secondary School in Ward 37, Gutu South, where he played a pivotal role in its transformation into one of the best schools in the region, renowned for its outstanding infrastructure and quality of education.

Jailed 14 Years For Stealing Wallet With US$5

By A Correspondent| A hitchhiker who hijacked a motorist before forcing him to surrender a wallet containing US$5 at gunpoint has been jailed 14 years effective by a Harare magistrate.

Blessing Moyo, 38, was initially handed a 20-year jail sentence by magistrate Letwin Rwodzi before part of the prison term was set aside on condition.

He was arrested in July last year at a road accident scene deliberately caused by his victim, King Kamungeremu who was on the wheel.

As a result of the accident, Moyo got trapped inside the car.

He was found in possession of his victim’s wallet and a pellet gun he had used moments earlier to instill fear in Kamungeremu.

Moyo was charged with two counts of robbery.

Prosecutors proved that Moyo robbed Kamungeremu who had offered him a lift from Chitungwiza to Harare City Centre.

The court heard Moyo and his accomplice who is still at large, were offered a lift by Kamungeremu from St Mary’s clinic with the former sitting at the back seat.

When they got to Manyame River Bridge, his accomplice who occupied the front passenger seat drew a pistol which he pointed at Kamungeremu while ordering him to surrender his car and other valuables.

“Kamungeremu surrendered his wallet which contained US$5,” the court was told.

“The complainant was then instructed to turn left into a nearby dust road.”

In panic, Kamungeremu instead tried to drive towards Kabrit Zimbabwe National Army camp’s main gate which is manned by soldiers hoping to find some rescue.

The military camp is located along the highway linking Chitungwiza and Harare.

However, before he could even get to the army camp, Kamungeremu drove desperately against oncoming traffic in an attempt to draw the attention of fellow motorists to his predicament.

His car was hit at the back by two cars.

He then stopped the car and screamed for help from other motorists.

Moyo’s accomplice fled from the scene, leaving his colleague trapped in the car.

The court further heard that during their searches, some good Samaritans who helped Kamungeremu recover a pellet gun which the robbers had used.

Swedish Embassy Says They Are Not Running Away From The PVO Bill

The Embassy of Sweden has refuted allegations published a by a local media house, The Mirror, 28 March – 4 April 2024, in an article titled “Sida pulls out as PVO Bill sets in-Ramifications for JSC and LRF”.

In a statement, The Embassy of Sweden refers to the information presented in the article as malicious and totally divergent from the truth.

“This is totally false information which the Embassy wants to categorically dismiss. For over a decade, the Embassy has been supporting LRF, with agreements spanning three to four years. The most recent agreement expired in March 2024. All agreement partners are aware that when an agreement comes to an end it is not automatically renewed.

“The renewal of agreement is determined by several factors, including availability of funds, Embassy strategy’s focus areas and of course the results achieved over the years. The decision not to renew LRF agreement and some other partner organisations agreements that ended last year, and some this year, is not in any way related to the ongoing deliberations in the parliament on the new version of the PVO Bill as purported by the article, rather it is driven by strategic imperative to create space for the pursuit of new strategic areas particularly within Economic Empowerment and Environment and Climate Change,” reads the statement.

The statement further clarifies the relationship between Sweden and Zimbabwe.

“The Embassy is currently in fruitful dialogue with a number of government ministries regarding its current strategic focus in support of Zimbabwe Government development efforts.

“Contrary to the assertion in the article, the Embassy has no mandate neither to relocate nor to enter into agreement with entities outside of Zimbabwe. In fact, Swedish Embassies in Zimbabwe and Zambia are governed by separate strategies that determine the operations in the respective countries,” adds the statement.

Regarding the funding of court construction in Zimbabwe, The Embassy had this to say, “Furthermore, the Embassy wishes to clarify that Sweden has not financially supported court construction projects in the country, although the Embassy has had some good working relationship with JSC through programme implemented by our partners. The Embassy of Sweden continues to value development aid and pledges to support efforts aimed at alleviating poverty and improvement of living conditions for the people of Zimbabwe, within the confines of the laws of the country.”

Hopewell Chin’ono, Mwonzora Clash Over Way Forward For Zim Youths

By Jane Mlambo| Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono has clashed with opposition MDC leader Douglas Mwonzora after he took to X to urge Zimbabwean youths to abandon their homeland in search of better opportunities abroad.

Chin’ono said Zimbabwe was a “mafia” and “failed state,” characterized by rampant corruption and an inability to provide essential services to its citizens.

“When I advised the youths to leave Zimbabwe and seek greener pastures elsewhere, it is because I had seen the depth of Zimbabwe’s problems,” stated Chin’ono, highlighting the dire circumstances facing many Zimbabweans. He equated Zimbabwe’s current state to that of a “mafia” and “failed state,” where criminal elements wield significant influence over government institutions, leading to widespread corruption and lawlessness.

However, Mwonzora vehemently opposed Chin’ono’s proposition, arguing for a different approach.

“Very wrong advice. Let’s remove the bad system instead of running away from it,” asserted Mwonzora, advocating for internal reform rather than external exodus.

The exchange between Chin’ono and Mwonzora underscores the deep-seated frustrations and divisions within Zimbabwean society over how best to address the country’s socio-economic and political woes. While some advocate for seeking opportunities abroad as a means of escaping hardship, others remain committed to staying and demanding accountability from the government.

As Zimbabwe grapples with ongoing economic challenges, political instability, and social unrest, the debate over whether to stay or leave continues to resonate among its citizens.

Whether through internal reform or external migration, the quest for a brighter future remains at the forefront of Zimbabwe’s collective consciousness, driving discourse and shaping the nation’s trajectory in the years to come.

DeMbare, Ngezi In Tight Corner

The Zimbabwe national team will be forced to find a neutral venue again when the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Group C games resume in June.

The Warriors hosted their first home game in Rwanda last November after CAF condemned all the local stadiums due to their sub-standard conditions.

With little progress made on renovating the grounds thus far, ZIFA Nomalisation Committee president Lincoln Mutasa has revealed that they have already started looking for a stadium outside the country to host the upcoming international games.

The stadium crisis is also expected to affect Ngezi Platinum Stars and Dynamos who will represent Zimbabwe in Confederation of African Football (CAF) club competitions.

“We are in a serious crisis given the time frames. We have since started finding an alternative venue and we will inform the nation on the outcome,” Mutasa said, as cited by ZBC.

The chairman added: “Most of the facilities are council owned and given council problems, it will be difficulty to see local authorities give priority to stadium facilities, hence we have advised local teams to reach out to councils and acquire land for stadium construction.”

The Warriors will face Lesotho and South African in their next World Cup Qualifiers.

Unpacking Net Zero In Climate Change

World Meteorological Organization

Tendai Biti, Welshman Approach Chamisa For Reunion

By Political Reporter-Tendai Biti and Welshman Ncube are reportedly planning to approach Nelson Chamisa for a possible reunion.

Bulawayo mayor David Coltart acknowledged the disarray within the opposition, advocating for a departure from personality-driven politics and urging reconciliation among key figures to effectively challenge Zanu PF’s dominance.

He emphasised the necessity of unity in confronting Zimbabwe’s political challenges, underscoring the complexity of the current opposition landscape.

On the other hand, allies of Nelson Chamisa are reportedly vying for prominent positions within the yet-to-be-disclosed movement.

This development comes in the wake of the destabilisation caused by the contentious recall of elected representatives following the 2023 elections.

Chamisa’s departure from the CCC in January, citing alleged infiltration by Zanu PF, triggered a scramble for power within the opposition ranks. With self-imposed secretary general Sengezo Tshabangu wresting control of the party and initiating recalls of legislators and councillors, Chamisa distanced himself from any specific opposition faction or movement.

Nevertheless, key figures close to Chamisa, notably Amos Chibaya and Gift Siziba, have been actively rallying support under the banner of the Blue Movement.

The mobilisation efforts, particularly in selecting grassroots leaders for the movement, have led to internal divisions.

According to insider sources, the selection process for grassroots leaders has encountered disputes, with some individuals imposing themselves into positions of authority.

The grassroots members are demanding a more inclusive approach to selecting local leaders, highlighting tensions within the burgeoning movement.

While declining to comment on the alleged infighting, Gift Siziba emphasised the overwhelming support for Chamisa among grassroots supporters, citing a fervent desire to combat dictatorship and champion democracy.

Despite the anticipation surrounding the new movement, specifics regarding its launch remain undisclosed.

Siziba emphasised the focus on building a mass movement and organising at the grassroots level to address longstanding electoral challenges in Zimbabwe.

Recent attempts to organise rallies, however, faced obstacles, with a planned event in Mukoba constituency being banned by police.

Violent Zanu PF Youths Hijack Pro-Chamisa Meeting

By Political Reporter- Suspected Zanu PF-sponsored activities have caused chaos at a meeting organised by the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) pro-Mr Nelson Chamisa faction in Mutare.

The rowdy youths hijacked a meeting where the Chamisa members were protesting against the imposition of a provincial youth leader by some disgraced opposition leaders in Manicaland.

The youth wing of the pro-Mr Chamisa faction had gathered at the party’s Darlington suburb offices last week to elect representatives of the Mutare cluster.
However, all hell broke loose when Mr Itai Masaka, the Mutare urban cluster coordinator, threatened to impose Mutare City Council councillor, Councillor James Mugorosa as the youth leader.
This prompted agitated youths to forcibly grab the microphone from Mr Masaka, hurling unprintable words at him and Mr Claudius Nengomasha.
The faction’s provincial chief security officer, Mr Jack Roberts tried in vain to calm the youths.
All is not well in the CCC faction as squabbles have become the order of the day at all levels.
Confusion recently rocked the faction recently when CCC national organising secretary, Mr Amos Chibaya dismissed reports that Mr Chamisa’s followers were mobilising for a new political outfit.
He told the media that a meeting held in Mutare recently was not an inaugural mobilisation programme, amid claims by some of Mr Chamisa’s loyalists that they were excluded from the meeting.
Mr Chibaya said he organised the Mutare caucus on behalf of CCC despite the former party deputy national spokesperson, Mr Gift Siziba saying the meeting was meant to facilitate the establishment of a new political party.
Messrs Chibaya and Siziba addressed party supporters in Mutare during the meeting that was attended by Messrs Regai Tsunga and David Chimhini as well as Chikanga legislator, Mrs Lynette Karenyi-Kore. Manica Post

UK Universities Hit Hard

By TheGuardian.com- British universities have been hit by a scrapping of social sciences studies and low uptake of international students, threatening the funding of research and professor prospects, a local online publication has established.

The UK recently announced its decision to tighten the international VISA regime for what is said was one of its measures to curb high numbers of immigrants.

However, a local online this week says London has started to feel the effects of its hostility toward foreign nationals, most of which are in providing critical skills.

Below is the story detailing how this is threatening the British economy.

Imagine a beach before the tsunami. Out at sea, the wave is gathering force, yet people are still sunbathing on the sand, blissfully unaware.

That’s how it feels, one professor tells me, to be working in higher education. Academics by their nature don’t look outwards much, he argues, so not all have registered the risk to their profession. “But something absolutely dreadful is coming.”

As a scientist working in cancer research at a top British university, he’s not the kind of academic I expected to be worried about the recent nationwide flurry of threatened redundancies in higher education, the scrapping of what, so far, are mainly arts and language courses, or shrill political attacks on supposedly “woke” campus culture

But lately almost everyone in higher education seems jumpy.

This week, it was the University of Essex’s turn to hit the headlines by declaring a £13.8m shortfall, blaming a 38% drop in applications from foreign postgrad students for its plans to freeze pay and promotions. But it merely joins the University and College Union’s growing list of, so far, 39 institutions planning cuts, ranging from ancient Russell Group names to relative minnows, and from modest voluntary redundancy schemes to the £100m savings that Coventry University plans to find over the next two years.

What’s striking is that it’s seemingly solid, middle-ranking research institutions, not those bumping along the bottom of league tables, that are starting to hit the panic button.

At best, a miserable summer beckons for lecturers at risk of losing their jobs – another I spoke to was preparing to mark his students’ finals and reapply for his post in the same anxious week – while students face a no-frills future of fewer choices and more uncertainty.

(A friend’s son found out only halfway through his gap year that the history and politics degree he was due to start this autumn has been ditched for a distinctly stripped-back version).

At worst, some are asking how the sector would cope if an established university goes bust. Since that’s never happened before, nobody seems entirely sure how it would work: what would happen to students halfway through their degrees, or whether one failure might spook creditors into pulling the plug on others.

‘This week, it was the University of Essex’s turn to hit the headlines by declaring a £13.8m shortfall.’

What has happened to Britain’s supposedly world-beating universities is partly the old post-Brexit story of the young suffering the consequences of something they overwhelmingly didn’t vote for.

But it’s complicated by austerity, and arguably by some vice-chancellors biting off more than they can chew.

The story starts with the freezing of tuition fees in 2017, creating a growing hole in university finances that many plugged by recruiting more foreign students (who pay more than British teenagers for the same degree).

That kept the show on the road until the resulting immigration numbers became politically toxic, prompting a government clampdown on visas and a sudden 33% fall in foreign student numbers compared with the same time last year.

In February, I wrote that we were about to find out what happens when young people stop coming to a country publicly hostile to them, and now here we are: the net result isn’t more choice for British teenagers but, if anything, the reverse, given that foreign students were effectively subsidising them.

Meanwhile, middle-ranking universities have long complained of grander institutions stealing their lunch, by expanding humanities courses – which are relatively cheap to provide – and taking in teenagers who would otherwise have gone to the next tier of universities down.

Some borrowed heavily to expand and make themselves more attractive, only to be caught out by rocketing inflation and borrowing costs. Put all of that together and it’s no surprise that an independent report commissioned by Universities UK from the accountants PwC notes 40% of English and Northern Irish universities (plus 36% of Scottish ones, operating under a different fee system) are expected to go into the red this year, adding that “it may be inevitable that there is some loss of provision”. And in a mockery of what was understood by levelling up, students from poorer backgrounds may be hardest hit: they’re disproportionately likely either to go to post-1992 institutions, or to choose the nearest university so that they can save on rent by living at home.

If it scraps the course they wanted, what then?

Perhaps you find it hard to care about universities at a time when the NHS is on its knees and everything in public life seems broken.

Or perhaps you think teenagers with middling A-level results are better off not racking up debt for degrees that might not help their job prospects all that much. (Though, even as Britain argues about whether 35% of teenagers going to college is too much, Australia is debating the case for 55%.)

What we’re seeing isn’t some slow, careful rebalancing of the system, done with teenagers’ best interests at heart. Instead, it’s just another messy, confused decline of something Britain was genuinely once good at, which contributed billions to the economy while projecting soft power abroad.

Fixing it will take more than just funding, although a rise in tuition fees now seems inevitable. What’s needed is a more fundamental restructuring, and an honest debate about exactly what – and who – a modern university education is really for. Right now, that’s the essay question to which nobody seems to have a clear answer.

14 Injured In Chirundu Bus Crash

By- At least 14 people were injured in a road traffic accident on Friday in what was the only major Easter holiday incident on the country’s roads by last night, police have confirmed.

The accident occurred when a Zambia-bound Andile Coaches bus carrying 19 passengers veered off the road and overturned, before landing in a ditch at the 302-kilometre peg along the Harare-Chirundu Road.

The police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the accident yesterday urging motorists to be cautious on the roads.

“We will have all the details and statistics of what transpired over the holiday ready for release on 2 April 2024 as the holiday is still on.

“The ZRP, however, confirms a serious road traffic accident that occurred at the 302km peg along the Harare-Chirundu Road on 29 March 2024 at around 1238 hours.

“Fourteen people were injured when an Andile Coaches bus which was carrying 19 passengers on board, veered off the road, overturned and landed in a ditch on its roof,” he said.

Asst Comm Nyathi said three injured passengers were ferried to Karoi District Hospital while 12 others were taken to Mutendere Hospital in Zambia for medical assistance.

“As police, we strongly caution the motoring public against speeding in all situations which are not safe to do so, thereby compromising road safety,” he added.
In a statement just before the Easter holiday, Comm-Gen Matanga urged Christian worshippers to avoid night travelling to minimise road traffic accidents.
“Church leaders should ensure that the form of transport used by congregations is suitable and secure without compromising road safety.” Sunday News

Supermarkets Reject Zim Dollars

By Business Reporter- Supermarkets in all the country’s towns and cities have adopted the United States dollar and dropped the use of local currency.

Last week, major retailers such as OK Zimbabwe, TM Supermarkets, and Spar started pricing their goods exclusively in US dollars, marking a significant shift away from the Zimbabwean dollar.

The decision to discard Zimbabwean dollars comes amidst a steep decline in the currency’s value, rendering it practically worthless.

On Friday, prominent retailers, including OK Zimbabwe, TM Supermarkets, and Spar, took down price tags denominated in Zimbabwean dollars, citing the currency’s rapid depreciation.

Denford Mutashu, president of the Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers, told VOA’s Studio 7 on Friday that continuing to operate with the Zimbabwean dollar would hinder their ability to restock inventory.

The move reflects the growing lack of confidence in the local currency’s stability and purchasing power.

Recent data from the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT) underscores the severity of the economic crisis.

In March, annual inflation surged to 55.3%, marking a seven-month high compared to February’s 47.6%. Furthermore, prices escalated by 4.9% within the month, a slight decrease from the previous month’s 5.4% increase.

The relentless depreciation of the Zimbabwean dollar against the US dollar has exacerbated inflationary pressures, contributing to the erosion of consumer purchasing power.

The Zimbabwean dollar has depreciated against the US dollar consistently throughout the year, experiencing a staggering 72% decline.

This alarming trend has positioned the Zimbabwean dollar as the world’s second-worst-performing currency, trailing only behind the Lebanese pound.

Despite mounting evidence of the Zimbabwean dollar’s failure, the government persists in its rhetoric of stabilising the currency.

However, the persistent depreciation and widespread adoption of the US dollar by retailers underscore the urgency of addressing the underlying economic challenges facing Zimbabwe.

The decision by major retailers in Zimbabwe to transition exclusively to US dollar pricing signals a profound loss of faith in the local currency amidst escalating economic turmoil.

As inflation continues to soar and the Zimbabwean dollar plummets, urgent action is needed to address the root causes of the crisis and restore stability to the country’s economy.

Chigumba Says She Is Researching On Diaspora Vote

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is set to conduct extensive research on technological advances in election management as a way of improving electoral efficiency.

ZEC chairperson, Justice Priscilla Chigumba says one of the key priority areas that the electoral body will focus on is the use of technology in elections as the commission moves to improve the electoral process.

“We are going to be focusing more research on technological advances in election management. The use of technology in elections has become a standard across board, but i am not going to rush the use or implementation of technology without extensive research because we have to see how it will benefit the main stakeholder which is the voter. In the next two years, will be doing the research as we plan to visit other sister commissions in our quest to come up with better ways of running elections,” she said.

She also spoke on the diaspora vote.

“There has always been issues surrounding diaspora vote and so we will also be conducting research on that to see how other countries do it. Some countries in SADC have introduced a partial diaspora vote for the presidential election only. There is need to change the law if parliament is serious about implementing diaspora vote,” explained Chigumba.

Justice Chigumba says the Commission continues to recommend the registration of political parties as a means to bring sanity in the political space.

Man Demands US$10k Compensation After Being Mauled By Neighbor’s Dog

A Harare man has filed a US$10 000 law suit against his neighbour after her dog mauled him and also killed his cat.

The applicant, Ronias Mutaki, said he wants the money to recover the costs he incurred seeking his treatment and that of his cat before it succumbed to the injuries.

Mutaki filed the application against Daisy Mushavi at the Harare Civil Court. The application is still pending.

Mutaki said Mushavi owned an unvaccinated dog as her pet at her Strathaven home in Harare.

It is alleged that sometime in May 2021, Mutaki together with his cat, was attacked by Mushavi’s “vicious and unvaccinated dog”.

In his submissions, Mutaki said he sustained serious injuries.

Mutaki said he incurred medical expenses to the sum of US$500 after the dog attack.

He also claimed to have suffered damages to his valuables that include spectacles valued US$110, formal suit worth US$150, Rolex Wrist watch (US$300) and gold teeth costing US$600.

Mutaki said he suffered losses while seeking treatment for his cat at the Department of Veterinary Services before it died.

Mutaki also submitted that he suffered serious physical and emotional pain and suffering.

“Physically, he sustained serious injuries and some took time to heal and to date, I am still having phases of pain,” his lawyers submitted.

According to Mutaki, Mushavi has failed to respond to a letter of demand dated August 30 last year.

He said he is demanding US$10 000 for injuries and losses incurred seeking treatment, saying US$1 711 was the costs incurred in restoring and replacing his damaged property.

The matter is still pending.

Over 500 dog bite cases were reported in Zimbabwe last year, with most bites being from dogs of unknown status.

According to a report released in December last year by the Health and Child Care ministry, Manicaland province with 83 bites had the highest followed by Mashonaland East with 75.

“Of these cases, 129 (23,6%) were bitten by vaccinated dogs, 125 (23%) by unvaccinated dogs and 292 (53,4%) by dogs of unknown status,” the report read.

In March last year, a 68-year-old security guard was found dead with multiple injuries after he was mauled by four pit bull dogs at a business premise in Harare.

A month later last year, a nine-year-old girl died on admission at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals after she was attacked by a pit bull dog in the capital.

Also last year, a Harare man sued a brick manufacturing company of more than US$15 000 in damages after he sustained severe injuries when he was brutally mauled by some vicious dogs owned by the enterprise.

Can Govt Be Trusted With Its Promise To Open UK, SA Passport Printing?

By Dorrothy Moyo | Zimbabwe’s government has once again announced the imminent launch of an e-passport printing centre, this time in Johannesburg, set to begin services next month for Zimbabweans residing in South Africa. This announcement, made through The Sunday Mail, marks yet another chapter in a series of government promises aimed at improving access to essential civic documents for its citizens, both at home and abroad. However, a closer look at the historical context of these announcements reveals a pattern of delays and unfulfilled promises dating back to 2016, casting a shadow of skepticism over the current projections.

Ambassador David Hamadziripi’s statements regarding the completion of the Johannesburg centre and the final stages of staff training suggest readiness. “The e-passport processing centre in Johannesburg is complete and ready to operate,” Hamadziripi confirmed, emphasizing the facility’s capacity to process significant numbers of passports efficiently. Yet, similar assurances have been given in the past, raising questions about the viability of these timelines.

The plan to decentralize passport services, including opening additional centres like the one proposed in Gokwe South and extending services to Zimbabweans in the diaspora through offices in the United Kingdom and the United States, echoes long-standing governmental intentions to enhance service delivery. Registrar-General Mr. Henry Machiri’s remarks about working on the “final stages” of the Johannesburg centre do little to dispel concerns, given the history of such announcements.

This pattern of repeated promises, with reference to the deployment of e-passport services and the opening of overseas centres since as far back as 2016, has led to a growing perception among observers that these initiatives might be more aspirational than actionable. The statement from the Zimbabwe consulate in Johannesburg, indicating that the rollout of the e-passport system is at an “advanced stage,” is met with a degree of skepticism by those familiar with the saga’s history.

The announcement, while representing a potentially significant leap forward in the government’s efforts to modernize and streamline the process of obtaining passports, particularly for the diaspora, raises valid concerns about the feasibility of its implementation. The repeated delays and the cycle of renewed promises without substantial progress have understandably tempered the enthusiasm of Zimbabweans, both within the country and abroad.

Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube’s mention of funds allocated for upgrading the country’s embassies as part of the 2024 National Budget offers some hope. Still, it does not fully assuage doubts borne out of years of waiting for these services to materialize.

As Zimbabwe once again stands on the precipice of what could be a major advancement in public service delivery, the question remains: will this announcement transcend the cycle of unfulfilled promises? Or will it become another footnote in the ongoing challenge of accessing essential civic documents for Zimbabweans worldwide? Only time will tell if the government’s latest promises will finally be realized, breaking a pattern of wishful announcements that have yet to come to fruition.

Iconic Zimbabwean Actor Aaron Chiundura Moyo Extols First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa at Stella January’s Funeral

In an emotional tribute at the funeral of the esteemed Zimbabwean actress Stella January, who recently passed away from cancer at 55, iconic playwright and actor Aaron Chiundura Moyo offered high praise for First Lady Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa’s visionary contributions to the arts. The gathering, which brought together key figures from Zimbabwe’s entertainment scene, highlighted the First Lady’s profound impact and her unexpected role in fostering cultural expression and addressing social issues through the arts.

Moyo shared his astonishment and admiration for Dr. Mnangagwa’s direct involvement in the creation of ‘Rujeko,’ a theatrical project aimed at empowering young girls and addressing societal challenges. He revealed how Dr. Mnangagwa personally reached out to him to collaborate on this initiative, emphasizing her humility and her dedication to the arts. “She is not just a First Lady but an artiste in the real sense,” Moyo remarked, underlining the First Lady’s earnest engagement with the project and her explicit directive to keep the play apolitical, focusing instead on universal themes of growth and empowerment.

The First Lady’s role went beyond mere patronage; she was actively involved in conceptualizing the play and even in the selection of its cast, showcasing her dedication to nurturing talent and her insightful understanding of the arts as a tool for social commentary. Moyo highlighted how Dr. Mnangagwa’s endorsement and selection of Stella January for the play exemplified her appreciation and support for local artists.

Stella January’s passing has deeply affected the Zimbabwean arts community, with both Moyo and the First Lady acknowledging her immense talent and the void her departure leaves. In her address, Dr. Mnangagwa reminisced about the inception of the film project, intended as a transformative experience for young girls, and praised January’s exceptional ability to bring her roles to life with authenticity and passion.

Aaron Chiundura Moyo’s laudation of the First Lady at this somber occasion serves as a testament to Dr. Mnangagwa’s genuine commitment to the arts and her innovative approach to leveraging cultural platforms for societal benefit. His call to fellow artists to pursue their craft with integrity and responsibility honors January’s legacy and reinforces the message that art can indeed be a force for good in society. As the community mourns the loss of a remarkable talent, the tributes to Stella January also celebrate the enduring power of art to inspire change and the unexpected yet pivotal role leaders can play in its advancement.

Zimbabwe’s Agricultural Shift: A Balancing Act Between Hemp and Food Security

In an ambitious move that marks a significant shift in its agricultural focus, Zimbabwe has registered over sixty entities in the hemp production, trade, and research sectors since the legal green light in 2018. Managed by the Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA), this initiative signals a new era for Zimbabwe’s economy, which has historically been rooted in food production. However, this pivot towards industrial hemp cultivation—while promising—ignites concerns over the potential impacts on the nation’s food security, challenging the agricultural legacy celebrated since the 1975 UN World Book records highlighted Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) as having the fastest-growing crop economy.

Hemp, known for its low psychoactive properties and wide range of industrial applications, including textiles and biofuels, represents a significant export opportunity for Zimbabwe. To date, the nation has exported over 8,000 tonnes to countries such as Poland, Switzerland, and Germany. AMA agribusiness director, Mr. Jonathan Mukuruba, is optimistic about this new agricultural venture. “The future of industrial hemp in Zimbabwe looks very promising… with a growing interest in the sector, Zimbabwe is on track to emerge as a regional leader in industrial hemp production,” Mukuruba noted, highlighting the economic potential of this crop.

Despite the promising outlook, the move raises important questions about the allocation of agricultural resources. Zimbabwe’s foray into hemp cultivation could mean diverting land and water resources traditionally used for food crops, potentially impacting the nation’s food security. Critics of the shift argue that while industrial hemp offers economic benefits, prioritizing it over food crops could compromise Zimbabwe’s ability to feed its population.

The partnership with Plantiqua Hemp, a Polish company aiming to enhance the quality and marketability of Zimbabwean hemp, underscores the international interest in Zimbabwe’s hemp industry. This collaboration aims to “increase production and productivity,” according to Mukuruba, by connecting local farmers with global markets.

However, the enthusiasm for hemp’s economic prospects is tempered by concerns for food production. “The challenge lies in balancing the cultivation of crops for industrial purposes with the imperative to ensure food security,” stated Dr. Frank Magama, CEO of Kutsaga Research Station, which is conducting research to identify hemp varieties suitable for Zimbabwe. Magama emphasizes the need for a strategic approach: “As we explore the potential of hemp, we must also consider our longstanding tradition of food production and the critical importance of maintaining food security.”

This transition towards industrial hemp production presents Zimbabwe with a complex challenge: how to harness the economic potential of this new crop while safeguarding its food security and agricultural legacy. As the nation moves forward, the words of Mukuruba and Magama highlight the delicate balance Zimbabwe must navigate, blending innovation with tradition in its agricultural practices.- State Media

SA: 26y Old Zimbabwean Discovers Arguably World’s Largest Gold Reserve

By Farai D Hove | In an astonishing breakthrough that combines the realms of academic achievement and geological exploration, Dr. Steve Chingwaru, a recent PhD graduate from South Africa’s Stellenbosch University (SU), has made a discovery poised to reshape the mining industry on a global scale. At only 26, Chingwaru’s research not only earned him a doctorate but also uncovered what may be the world’s largest gold reserve, potentially worth an astounding R450 billion.

Steve Chingwaru

Chingwaru’s journey to this monumental discovery has roots that run deep into his heritage. Born in Zimbabwe and raised in Johannesburg by his aunt, he comes from a lineage of miners and prospectors, notably his grandfather George Nolan, a legendary figure who once discovered lithium in Zimbabwe. Despite Nolan’s financial losses over time, Chingwaru seems destined to not only revive but also vastly expand his family’s legacy in mineral exploration.

The essence of Chingwaru’s research revolves around the concept of “invisible gold” within the mine dumps of Johannesburg’s Witwatersrand basin. These dumps, which are essentially accumulations of historical mine waste, are believed to contain over six billion tonnes of material. Through his groundbreaking work, Chingwaru has identified that these tailings house up to 460 tons of gold, locked within minerals and thus previously deemed too challenging and uneconomical to extract.

Chingwaru’s PhD project, which initially started as a Master’s before being elevated due to its significance, delves into the characterisation and potential extraction methods of this gold. His approach addresses both the technical feasibility and environmental concerns tied to the tailings, such as the prevention of acid mine drainage—a significant problem resulting from the oxidation of pyrite in the dumps.

His work shines a light on the opportunity to revisit what was once considered waste, transforming it into a valuable resource. By devising methods to efficiently and environmentally safely extract gold from low-grade sources, Chingwaru is paving the way for a more sustainable and lucrative future for the mining industry. This is particularly relevant as traditional mining ventures deeper underground, becoming more hazardous and less cost-effective.

Chingwaru’s academic career, though still in its early stages, has already garnered him international acclaim. His research has been published in prestigious journals, and he’s been a featured guest in media and academic forums worldwide. Beyond the academic accolades, what stands out about Chingwaru is his deep-rooted love for Africa and his commitment to contributing to its scientific and economic advancement.

Looking forward, Chingwaru is exploring opportunities to continue his work abroad, with positions in Australia and Germany under consideration. However, his heart remains in Africa, where he aims to leverage his discoveries for the continent’s benefit.

Through his pioneering research, Dr. Steve Chingwaru has not only carved out a promising career path but also stands as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring scientists across Africa and beyond. His story—a blend of personal ambition, academic excellence, and a profound connection to his roots—echoes the potential of Africa’s young minds to drive significant advancements in science and industry.

Chris Mutsvangwa After Bouncing Back Keeps Nibbling Lips And Scratching Collar When Praising Mnangagwa

By Farai D Hove | ZANU PF Spokesman Chris Mutsvangwa’s body language was louder than his voice when he kept nibbling his lips and scratching his shirt after launching praises of his boss, Emmerson Mnangagwa.

His conspicuous body language (video) was just as he said-

“… the fact that Zimbabwe has been at the centre of assaults by neo colonial Powers for more than two decades is now becoming a source of great pride and inspiration to the other African countries…

Chris Mutsvangwa

“…and the Star of Zimbabwe, the Star of our president comrade, ED Mnangagwa continues to rise among his peers, both in SADC, but also in the fellow sub regional organisations, as well as the African union, and even all the way to the United Nations. There is increasing appreciation of the correctness of the policies, which Zimbabwe has pursued in the second Republic, in giving Zimbabwe a resilient economy which is now taking full advantage of our bountiful resources. ”

Chris Mutsvangwa on Wednesday

News analyst Dr Masimba Mavaza has dismissed speculation around the ZANU PF spokesperson’s removal from his ministerial job saying there is nothing amiss about it. He added saying a ministerial job has no notice, one can be hired and fired at any time.

The ZANU PF member, Kerina Mujati who first published various allegations on Mutsvangwa in February has sworn to her words while challenging Dr Mavaza to a live debate on the matter.

Dr Mavaza Says: Chamisa Has Destroyed Democracy

The State of The Opposition in Zimbabwe: Chamisa’s Disservice to Democracy

By Dr. Masimba Mavaza | Democracy thrives on choice and the liberty to select a government, signifying that the legislature, responsible for law-making, must allow a diversity of views. These views should include those from government benches—who may propose procedural variations—and those opposing the government’s policy directions, ensuring that lawfully elected representatives can present and discuss alternative policy options, even if not in power.

Such political entities within a legislature are termed the opposition, encompassing parties outside the government. The leader of the largest opposition party typically becomes the Leader of the Opposition. Democracies have long accepted that opposition can be constructive and loyal to the country without violating the constitution.

A viable and strong opposition is crucial for constructive challenges to any ruling party. However, the political opposition in Zimbabwe appears to be in disarray. Prior to and during the elections, there were concerns about the opposition’s state, notably its lack of direction, constitution, and manifesto. Chamisa dismissed advice to organize, preferring to label his disorder “strategic ambiguity.” His refusal to introspect post-election has led to predictable consequences for his unstructured and rule-less party.

Approximately 18 months post-election, Chamisa is witnessing the collapse of his chaotic efforts. He became notably the first leader to abandon his own debacle, followed by Lady Mahere of Mount Pleasant, whose departure was met with relief.

Chamisa and Mahere attributed parliamentary recalls to “infiltration,” refusing to acknowledge the chaos stemming from running a party without structure or rules. This lack of governance led to disorder and the emergence of at least four feuding factions within the CCC.

A few former student activists, including Ostalos Siziba, followed Chamisa into what they term the Blue Movement, holding sporadic meetings in an attempt at organization.

Chamisa’s failure to learn from basic lessons of accountability and improvement reflects in his political journey. After inheriting Tsvangirai’s MDC and subsequently forming the CCC, his leadership has consistently led to organizational failure, with attempts now being made to form another movement.

On 25 March 2024, Chamisa’s choice of a yellow tie, as seen on social media, suggests a lingering interest in the CCC, despite his efforts with the Blue Movement. His actions depict a tendency to shift blame rather than accept responsibility.

In conclusion, the opposition in Zimbabwe has dwindled to a few online activists, with the true essence of the country’s freedom—rooted in sacrifice—remaining undiminished by baseless accusations.

Mnangagwa Deports Chinese, Malawians

By Political Reporter- The government is deporting foreign nationals whom it says are coming into the country illegally.

Part of those deported so far include hundreds of Chinese and Malawi nationals whom the authorities say are entering the country for employment.

This week, Respect Gono, the chief director at the Department of Immigration, revealed that investigations have unveiled a pattern:

Chinese migrants using mega projects to circumvent authorities and settle in Zimbabwe illegally.

Chinese nationals were reportedly disappearing almost immediately after receiving clearance from immigration.

In an interview with The Independent, Gono emphasized that the Department of Immigration has significantly intensified scrutiny at major entry points since the operation’s inception, resulting in the rejection of numerous foreign arrivals.

Speaking to The Independent, Gono said the Department of Immigration had tightened the screws at major ports of entry since the operation began, and many foreigners were being turned away on arrival. She said:

Shadaya Reports Receiving Threats On His Life

Controversial social commentator, Shadaya Knight has reported receiving threats on his life.

Posting on X, Shadaya said his family members are now worried over his safety as some unidentified men have been asking details about his routine and location among other things.

Below is Shadaya’s appeal to the police;

“Police, I greatly require your assistance. Normally I wouldn’t bring such issues out on public platforms as they can be misinterpreted, but I have no other option.

I have been getting constant threats on my life and family as well for the past weekI ignored it initially as pranks but when I start getting messages from family and friends about unidentified people asking about my routine, location and other information, I have to take it seriously.

My family and friends are very worried about my safety, constantly getting messages and even in person threats that “I’m wanted”.

To my knowledge I have not committed any crime, neither have I even said anything that can be regarded as a crime. Unless talking about societal issues is a crimeAnd if I’m wanted for anything shouldn’t I be called to report to any police station?

I would gladly do so, because I have nothing to hide. Just like everyone else regardless if one agrees or not with my opinions on societal issues, I shouldn’t have to live in fear, always looking at my back, sleeping with one eye open, because of unidentified men looking for me.

Your assistance in this matter will be greatly appreciated

New RBZ Governor Disqualified.

By A Correspondent| Former FBC Bank Chief Executive Officer, John Mushayavanhu does not qualify to hold the office of Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor because he violates one of the clauses in the Constitution which speaks about who qualifies to hold such a big office.

According to the Zimbabwe constitution enacted in 2013, no person shall hold the post of RBZ Governor when he is a shareholder in any banking institution.

It reads; A person shall not be appointed as Governor or Deputy Governor and no person be qualified to hold office as Governor or Deputy Governor if

a) he is a director, shareholder, officer or employee, or a member of any board or committee of any institution

Mushayavanhu has 7 percent shares in FBC Bank which he owned as recent as this year.

Mushayavanhu’s shares were revealed in a news article where FBC concluded the purchasing of Standard Chartered Bank and a breakdown of FBC shareholders shows that the new Governor is a part owner of the financial institution.

Ngarivhume Shares Details On His Call For Protests On 31 July 2020 And Arrest

By Jacob Ngarivhume| Part 1: The call for 31 July 2020 anti corruption demonstrations.

We sat down as a team in April of 2020 to discuss issues bedeviling our country. It was a small non-partisan team that met at my offices then in Hatfield. We agreed at the meeting that we needed to put a new perspective into our struggle for democracy and justice in Zimbabwe, which was to push for an issue based fighting.

There was consensus that we needed to identify issues that cut across citizens and unite us as a nation irrespective of political affiliation, religion, or age group. One such issue that immediately popped up in the small meeting was the corruption scourge. Corruption is endemic in our country, especially in the public sector.

Despite the mineral resources endowment of our country, corruption has stalled growth and robbed all citizens of their future. That’s when we decided to launch a campaign against corruption. I was to take leadership and control of this campaign.

I soon called for nationwide anti corruption demonstrations set for 31 July 2020. I moved around meeting various stakeholders seeking buy-in. The response was overwhelming.

We had meetings with opposition political party leaders, war veterans, and even Zanu Pf affiliated organisations who welcomed the idea. War veteran teams organized for me to meet with traditional leaders, and I did. Civil society responded, and soon prominent civil society leaders mobilised the business community, and I was meeting them.

The buy-in became massive. Our idea was to make this initiative non-partisan and ensure the buy-in of everyone.

One of the key engagements was the media. I had a meeting with Hopewell Chin’ono for the first time, and he welcomed the initiative and promised to publicise the demonstration as a journalist. Soon, he was driving the campaign on his social media platforms.

I had a meeting with prominent opposition leaders, and my brother and compatriot Job Sikhala responded and came on board. Hopewell and Job were to become my partners in a long legal battle to follow.

Momentum grew, and the call for the demonstrations became national, and the regime had no choice but to crack down. I will narrate the crackdown in the next part.

Part 2: The state crackdown of the anti corruption demonstrations…

Following the national buy-in of the 31 July demonstrations, the government got into panic mode.

I began receiving solidarity calls from senior police officers and very senior army officials. Their message to me was simple, thank you for pushing this agenda, and corruption is our common enermy as a nation. We stand with you on this call. I managed to meet a couple of senior army captains dispatched by their generals. They expressed their solidarity and wish that we were successful on the 31st of July.

The state crackdown intensified. They accused us of being sponsored by the West to call for anti corruption demonstrations in the country. They targeted the US embassy in particular. At that stage, I had not even met a single embassy official.

Only later did I have meetings with the Kenyan, Malawian, Rwandese, and South African ambassadors. They all expressed a view that a fight against corruption is noble in any African country and wished us good luck and success.

Senior police officers called me and expressed their solidarity with the demonstration. They however encouraged me to notify Harare Central police about the demonstration as required by the then section of POSA. We notified the police but no response came.

I was called to a JOC meeting at Harare Central Police and I dispatched my team to meet them. They informed us that with the momentum the demonstration was attracting, they feared that violence would break out. So they wanted us to suspend the demonstration.

I called for a press conference and vowed that the demonstration will go ahead with or without police clearance. In any case, my argument was that the law did not require police to ‘clear’ the demonstration but rather they are only ‘notified’.

After the press conference, I stated receiving death threats from CIOs and other state actors I did not know. They started following me. I could not sleep home anymore. For the next three weeks, I was sleeping in different places with my wife in most cases.

One day, I got a call from someone who identified themselves as a senior army official from SAS. He alleged that if we continued with the planning of the demonstration, I may be killed. I told him that I was so determined that at this stage, death does not matter to me.

The police called me several times asking me to cancel the demonstration and I told them that we were going to court to seek an order to allow the demonstration to go ahead.

The Zanu Pf hired thuggery machinery got into action. They threatened to burn down my house. Soon several vehicles were parked outside my house 24/7. We moved the children away, out of town, to live with relatives. Our neighbours were also scared to be out of their homes from 7PM.

My house was under siege and the environment was tense. I maintained my ground.

I then got a call from the US embassy for the first time asking about the details of the demonstration. They were just hearing about the false and malicious accusations that they were sponsoring a demonstration which they were not even aware of. I spoke to the political division official from the embassy for thirty minutes on the phone. That was the only contact I ever had with the US embassy prior to my arrest and subsequent detention.

My phone was now jammed with unknown people threatening to kill me. I dug in. I was so determined to lead the demonstration on the 31st of July.

The most threatening call came on the 18th of July 2020 via an SA registered number. The caller calmly told me that he is coming out of a JOC meeting which was discussing the anti corruption demonstrations. And from the deliberations of the meeting, I am most likely to be killed in the next 48 hrs, and if I am lucky I was going to be arrested instead. The guy was so calm and cool that he got to my mind. I was scared big time for the first time since April when I announced the demonstrations.

I told myself, these guys may kill me after all. Exactly 48 hrs later, I was violently arrested at my local church. Armed police officers arrested me, brandishing AK47s.

I will narrate the arrest in the next episode….

Part 3 My violent arrest on 20 July 2020

I kept in touch with my colleagues Job Sikhala and Hopewell Chin’ono. We were checking on each other regularly. We sensed that the state was up to no good and anything could happen. Job was very useful on giving us the latest intelligence.

On the night of 19 July I slept at my brother’s place just out of town. I could not sleep that night, I had nightmares. The words of the caller that I will definitely be killed in the next 48 hrs but if I am luck I will be arrested were haunting me. I was now living on high adrenaline all these days.

When I got home on the 20th of July morning I took a bath then decided to go to my local AFM church for my morning devotion. It’s a walking distance so I walked with my security detail who was also my bothers son.

As we approached the church I got a call from Job, he had a high voice and he was panicky. He asked me where I was and I told him I was going to church and he told me that I will be arrested by the police soon for they are on their way to my house. I simply proceeded to the church for prayer.

Before long two vehicles pulled in front of me. Nearly twelve men carrying AK47s jumped out of a Toyota Quantum. Only two of them had torn police uniforms, the rest were plain clothes.

One of them asked for my name and I identified myself as Jacob Ngarivhume, he flushed am ID I could not read and he identified himself as a detective inspector from Harare Central Police law and order. He informed me that I was under arrest for inciting public violence. He immediately took my phone and then handcuffed me.

People around the church saw the violence and force used to arrest me and they ran inside their homes. I was not sure at this stage if these people were police for sure. I was convinced that this was an abduction and they they were going to kill me. I asked if I could call my wife and tell her that I was arrested and my lawyer too. They flatly refused. Instead they said they were taking meet to Harare Central Police. They then said they can let my security detail go and he could tell my wife. He refused, instead opting to go with me and see if they w were really taking me to a police station. They then also took his phone and he got into the car I was bundled into.

The drive was long and winding. I did not know if they were taking me to Harare Central Police for sure. I was telling myself this is my end, they will take me to Goromonzi and kill me. I imagined the worst..

I thought of the last moments of my friend Tonderai Ndira, how he shouted these people will kill me Kani please help. I made my last imaginations. I thought of the price paid by the likes of Cde Chitepo, Tongogara, Ziaphapha Moyo, Takawira and others and I told myself I may as well die today. I imagined getting into paradise meeting Christ and comforted myself with the thought of having to meet and talk to Moses and ask him questions I have always wanted to ask the great man.

I told myself maybe I will ask Chitepo if this is the country that he really fought for, and Joshua Nkomo ukuti why did he leave our country and heritage in this state.

After ages of driving around town we turned into Harare Central prison. That was my first relief for the day. I at least knew that at Harare Central I will be trackable. They soon released my security detail and I knew soon he would tell my family and lawyers.

I was placed in a dirty room with no floor. They iron legged me too. I was there for a few moments before getting my second major relief for the day.

I heard leg irons going keche keche coming to our room. A tall figure emerged in both hand and leg irons. It was Hopewell Chin’ono. We greeted and I felt safe at last that I am now with a colleague and chances of disappearing were narrowing.

Soon I was able to call my lawyer Moses Nkomo and inform him that I was arrested.

I will next introduce the legal battle that ensued, exposing serious judicial capture.

Telecel Ditched By 22,000 Subscribers

Telecel’s Substantial Subscriber Loss Amidst Corporate Strife

Harare, Zimbabwe – Telecel Zimbabwe, a major player in the Zimbabwean telecommunications scene, has encountered a significant setback, losing over 22,000 subscribers in the last quarter of 2023. The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) disclosed this alarming drop, marking a challenging period for Telecel amidst ongoing corporate disputes.

Potraz’s report indicated a decline of 7.3% in Telecel’s active subscribers, now numbering 281,332, down from 303,364. This contrasted sharply with the growth seen by competitors, particularly Econet, which continued to dominate the market with a 70% share. The overall sector saw a slight increase in subscribers, underscoring the unique pressures faced by Telecel.

“This decline is a direct reflection of the tumultuous period Telecel has been going through,” said a Potraz spokesperson. “While the sector grows, Telecel’s challenges, including corporate governance issues, have undeniably impacted its market presence.”

Telecel has been under the spotlight since May, following a push by a trade union to have it placed under administration. The company’s chairperson, James Makamba, responded robustly to these challenges, especially to reports suggesting the commencement of corporate rescue proceedings.

Makamba stated, “The reports of our supposed entry into corporate rescue proceedings are not just misleading but outright incorrect. Telecel continues to operate, serving our subscribers and stakeholders with the commitment they expect from us.”

Despite these assurances, the subscriber data from Potraz paints a picture of a company struggling to maintain its foothold in a competitive market. Beyond the subscriber losses, the report highlighted sector-wide issues, including operational costs outpacing revenue growth, with Telecel likely feeling this pressure acutely.

“Telecel’s predicament is reflective of broader economic and operational challenges within the sector,” a telecom analyst commented. “Recovery and growth will require not just stabilizing the corporate structure but also regaining subscriber trust and investing in network improvements.”

As the Zimbabwean telecom sector continues to evolve, with shifts towards dollarization and technological upgrades, Telecel’s path to recovery remains uncertain. Stakeholders are watching closely, hoping for a turnaround that will stabilize the company’s operations and restore its position in the market.

Diplomatic Clash As Mnangagwa Deports Hundreds Of Chinese

By Political Reporter- The Zanu PF has deported hundreds of Chinese nationals in response to their claims of employment with Chinese multinationals involved in multi-billion dollar projects within the country.

She said:

Our main mandate is to protect the security of Zimbabwe. We turn some of the illegal immigrants away right at the airport. Major projects like Hwange 7 and 8 and other big projects saw a huge influx of Chinese and other people to Zimbabwe purporting to be part of the projects.

Zimbabwe is “Open for Business”, as you know our mantra. But it does not mean we allow illegal migration. We promote safe and regular migration.

What we then do is check on our system if you are really here on a work basis. If you are not, we ask you to leave.

Gono said that Malawian immigrants were not being deported but repatriated. She also revealed that the illegal migrants were arriving in Zimbabwe claiming they were going to work on farms. Said Gono:

We let their embassy identify them. After that, we hire buses to take them back. This is just sending them back through proper channels so that we do not ruin relations. We do not deport Malawians.

We repatriate them because they are part of the Southern African Development Community.

What happens is that sometimes they hide their passports after getting into Zimbabwe. We conduct a search and find to establish if they do have passports.

Mwayiwawo Polepole, Malawian ambassador to Zimbabwe, said:

Considering that cases of that nature were increasing and filling up space in prisons, the Government of Zimbabwe through the immigration department honoured the United Nations convention that the host country of those arrested should be sent back to their countries.

As neighbours and countries enjoying a long history of bilateral and diplomatic relations, two busses were dispatched to Malawi in January.

Again, in February, another bus-load was dispatched to Malawi. In some instances, when immigration informs the embassy of such cases, the embassy engages in a process of self-repatriation.

These processes are normal. The embassy is grateful to the Government of Zimbabwe for such a gesture.

The Chinese embassy did not respond to The Independent’s questions.

This month Zimbabwe also deported four American nationals whom they said were in the country illegally.

Apostle Chiwenga Deletes His Sermons And Starts Campaigning For Cheating In Marriage To Be Allowed And Impregnate More Than One Woman

By A Correspondent | ‘Apostle’ Talent Chiwenga, has had his integrity questioned after altering his stance on several sermons regarding infidelity in marriage.

Chiwenga who has deleted some of his videos now preaches that wives must allow another woman to coexist with them inside the same home.

In 2019, Chiwenga advocated against the pursuit of having male offspring, stating, “If you have daughters, be content, and thank God for the children you have. No child is less of a child.” (VIDEO BELOW STORY CONTINUES)

However, by February 2024, his position shifted dramatically, now advocating for men to take a second wife specifically to father sons. He argued, “A woman who hasn’t borne a son owes her husband. Hence, if she fails to produce a son after three or four attempts, she shouldn’t complain if her husband seeks another wife for this purpose.”

He further explained, “The new wife isn’t your enemy but a helper, as you’ve failed in your duty, and your husband is merely seeking assistance. Being a wife in God’s eyes isn’t about physical appearance.”

This recent message starkly contrasts his earlier teachings. At one point, he critiqued the obsession with fathering a son to carry on the family name, asking, “Why the fixation on a male heir? Was Jesus, who left no children, mistaken in focusing on his heavenly father’s legacy? Pursuing a son could result in numerous daughters, all while missing the point of legacy and value in all children.”

This is Talent Chiwenga’s secret girlfriend, Tariro Mafuka (left) he secretly married in 2015, over 4yrs before the 120km per hr speed rush accident in the Masvingo-Mvuma strip rd that killed his wife, Rejoice (right). He says uniformed CIO’s have crossed the Limpopo into SA to kill him

ARTICLE PUBLISHED ON 15 SEPT 2021 “If we thought it’s not possible for a person to sacrifice his wife for powers so their church grows, that’s what Chiwenga did. If he wants to deny that, I’ll download everything that’s happened in his face,” Talent Chiwenga’s mother in law alleged as the accused defended self saying,” God will vindicate me.”

The damning allegations were made early 2021 and have seen the preacher respond saying God will vindicate him, and then threatening her to retract the statement failure which he will institute legal action within 4 weeks. What happened after the mother in law defied the threats and continued boldly speaking?

When ‘Apostle’ Talent Chiwenga was challenged concerning alleged adultery by his own mother in law, he unleashed lawyers using fake threats after his late wife’s mother, and a ZimEye columnist, Howard Nyoni, the legal summons which are below…

as also revealed by Howard Nyoni, shortly before CHIWENGA deployed a British ‘Law firm’, through summons which claimed Nyoni is a former church adherent who is now disgruntled. (Nyoni is a veteran analyst who for years has participated in successful prosecution of church sex predators in UK and Zimbabwe),

Talent Chiwenga also began claiming Howard Nyoni is a disgruntled former member of his cult, JRM- Jesus Revelation Ministries, when such a thing has never happened. Nyoni was a panelist in a news discussion with Chiwenga in Nov 2017, during the times Talent Chiwenga was seeking publicity through the news network.

Part of the legal threats against Mr. Howard Nyoni

One of the young girls Talent Chiwenga raped is his own wife’s younger sister, Tariro Mafuka (+27 62 583 1***, we release the number as there is a criminal investigation for murder), he later secretly married more than 3 years before the accident that killed his wife, Rejoice. He would after that date, secretly drive her back to Zimbabwe from South Africa where she has been since the secret marriage, years before.

Sought for a comment over the last 3 years, Talent Chiwenga has declined responding only to resort to video streams on his church portal where he has constantly avoided the issue of his sex attacks against women and his overspeeding in Masvingo road which killed his wife, Rejoice.

In his first accident, in which he has accused Emmerson Mnangagwa, he was rescued by a top notorious ZANU PF he calls a good Samaritan, Mr Seviyas Piki, and in the 2nd one, he was rescued by an unnamed driver in a white vehicle that quickly whisked him away from the accident scene.

Meanwhile, Chiwenga says he has suffered assassination attempts in the last two accidents which have happened between 2019 and 2020.

In his own words, Talent Chiwenga says he was overspeeding for no valid reason when his wife was killedin the Masvingo-Mvuma road VIDEO, FULL TEXT

The below is a full compilation of Talent Chiwenga’s own words between June and November 2019 speaking on LIVE camera giving details on his allegations.

In his own video, recorded inside hospital less than a day after the accident, the preacher loudly says that he was speeding (in a 60km speed limit zone) at 120 kmeters per hour and he even wanted to accelerate beyond 120km for no other reason other than to rush to Harare and purchase a new fan belt for his car. No one was chasing after him. He then collided with an oncoming haulage truck and three people died as a result of the collision (accident video below).

Speaking during a church service, Talent Chiwenga said, ” I had a friend in Eugene Kanyuchi. I am sure many of you you know him. He served me in the work of Christ in the protocol department. And I had Mai Vhurumuko, and I think you all know her, you all knew her. VIDEO ( The story continues below)…

VIDEO LOADING BELOW…

“I faced death with those 2 people for as long as they were in the ministry. A week before we drove to South Africa I sat down with both of them and I said to them- you are following me everywhere I am going, I am in danger because in those three weeks before the accident we had a lot of incidents where death threats continued to come.

“I am sure you still remember at First Street when there was a message that came: run away they are going to come to kill you. And I said I am not going to run. Because I cannot run away from death death is something that nobody can run away from. So I sat with her husband and Mai Vhurumuku, and Baba Vhurumuku is not here, he works outside the country, and I told them there is death that is imminent; we knew about it it, we wrote a letter to president Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“And I told them that I was going to deliver that letter. The two of them, they volunteered to go with me, and I said if I don’t come back what happens to you?

“They said we will then not come back all of us. Vari vaviri, Baba Kanyuchi naMai Vhurumuku, ndaiti ndakavaudza kuti Vhangeri iyi ine vavengi vakawanda, ichasvika panguva yekuti tichafanirwa kuifira, vaiti, ” we are ready to die for the gospel.”

“Hapana anga aine rwendo rwekuenda kuSouth Africa pahu two hwavo. They volunteered to go with me. Three times in South Africa Thursday, Friday and Saturday, I saw a vision somebody was pointing a gun at me and I was being shot. And I was dying in that vision and then I was seeing myself dying when I was standing on the other side, and I told Baba Kanyuchi, I told Mai Chiwenga, this is what is going to happen, I am not comfortable something is about to happen. And they said let the will of the lord prevail.

“Our greatest challenge is when that time comes in our lives are we going to be holding our faith like they did? That is why we cannot count their departure, as a loss, it is not them that lost, it is us who lost. We lost an opportunity to go in good time, murikundinzwa here vadikani? Takashaiwa mukana wekuenda, zvichakanaka. So I just want to remind you that the people that do not believe do not understand their level, their carnal level, their corruptible level, their crooked level, we know what you are aiming for, we know the Lord, we know the Lord is coming. We know we shall be vindicated. We know we shall be justified. We know the gospel is going to go on. We know nobody is going to stop the gospel. We know nothing is going to stop the gospel.

“Not even the murderers, not even the politicians. Not even the CIO, not even the army, they will not stop this gospel. They can kill me today but they can’t kill the gospel.

“Tell your neighbour: they can kill me today but they can’t kill the gospel. The gospel cannot be killed because not even a bullet can reach close to the gospel. It is spiritual it is not physical.

“The AK47 kana CZ Pistol, inogona kuuraya nyama, asi mweya haigone kuuraya. So we just want to observe a moment of silence, but I want us us to first of all read this whole passage, in Phillipians chapter 1, let me read it up to verse 30. And then we observed a moment of silence to remind ourselves that there is a burden that lies squarely on our shoulders, to uphold the faith and to the very end, like our comrades did. They are our comrades, they are our heroes. They are heroes of faith, they stood firm for the gospel, and we have got to do the same. If we walk away from the faith, we are disappointing them. Hallelujah, Jesus is counting on us to stand firm unto the very end. For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain.”

What happened after the mother in law defied the threats and continued boldly speaking? Nothing happened to her, and the legal papers were never actioned.

DeMbare, Ngezi To Play International Matches Outside Country?

A Call To Action for Advocate Nelson Chamisa: Transforming the Opposition from Within

By A Correspondent

In the ever-evolving landscape of Zimbabwean politics, the role of the opposition is crucial in ensuring a healthy democracy and holding the ruling party accountable.

However, recent sentiments expressed by many, including political analyst David Khumalo, shed light on the urgent need for introspection within the opposition ranks, particularly under the leadership of Advocate Nelson Chamisa.

Charity, as the saying goes, begins at home. It is within the very organization of the opposition that true transformation must first take place.

Position squabbles and internal strife only serve to weaken the opposition’s effectiveness and credibility.

Before championing larger national issues, it is imperative to address the fundamental challenges within the party itself.

Khumalo’s assertion that the opposition seems to have lost its identity and purpose resonates with many disillusioned citizens.

With promises made but unfulfilled, there is a growing skepticism among the populace regarding the opposition’s ability to deliver on its mandate.

This skepticism is further fueled by the perception that the opposition has become entangled in the same web of political maneuvering as the ruling party, leaving ordinary Zimbabweans questioning whether there truly exists a viable alternative.

Advocate Nelson Chamisa, as the leader of the opposition, bears a significant responsibility in charting a new course for his party.

Rather than engaging in political gamesmanship, he must prioritize unity and collaboration within the opposition ranks.

Building a cohesive and inclusive party structure, one that transcends personal ambitions and egos, is essential in revitalizing the opposition’s relevance and appeal.

Moreover, Chamisa must demonstrate a clear and compelling vision for Zimbabwe’s future, one that resonates with the aspirations of the people.

Empty rhetoric and grandiose promises will no longer suffice; tangible solutions and actionable plans are needed to address the pressing issues facing the nation, from economic recovery to social justice.

Mnangagwa Announces Seizure Of Community Project

By A Correspondent

Zimbabwe’s Zanu PF leader, Mr. Emmerson Mnangagwa, has revealed plans for his government to take control of the Mapfura community project in Mwenezi.

This declaration was made during the commissioning of the Champions Food Maize and Wheat Milling plant in Tynwald, Harare, on Wednesday.

President Mnangagwa highlighted the importance of indigenous participation in the economy, citing the Champions Food Maize, Wheat, and Stockfeeds Milling Plant as a prime example.

This plant, capable of milling 500 metric tonnes of maize and 200 metric tonnes of wheat per day, represents a significant milestone in local entrepreneurship.

Acknowledging the recent unjustifiable price hikes in mealie meal, Mnangagwa attributed them to foreign-owned milling plants.

He praised the indigenously owned Champions Food plant for its role in stabilizing mealie meal prices, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting rural industrialization and modernization.

Referring to previous initiatives in Mwenezi, Mnangagwa highlighted research conducted by Midlands State University (MSU) on utilizing mapfura for community benefit.

He also mentioned innovations emerging from Bindura University, demonstrating the government’s investment in science, technology, and research to empower future generations.

“My Government will continue to foster a conducive environment for rural industrialization and modernisation.

Some years ago myself and Vice President Chiwenga went to Mwenezi and witnessed donkeys eating mapfura.

We engaged MSU to research on how these mapfuras could be utilized for community benefit.

MSU has since produced Amarula from mapfura.

At Bindura university, out of masawu emerged 3 drinks plus lotions, “said Mnangagwa.

Addressing the issue of land reform, Mnangagwa criticized Western countries for imposing sanctions, reaffirming the government’s stance on redistributing land among indigenous Zimbabweans.

” We reclaimed our land and this embittered Western countries who imposed sanctions against us. Its absurd for them to be angry over ourselves parcelling land to each other yet we don’t get angry when they do the same in their countries, ” said Mnangagwa.

He assured the nation of drought relief efforts and urged accountability in the distribution of food aid.

Mnangagwa emphasized the importance of local ownership in key sectors such as milling, inviting more indigenous players to invest in value addition plants nationwide.

He concluded by urging Zimbabweans to focus on developing their own infrastructure, rather than admiring foreign accomplishments.

Mnangagwa’s speech at the Champions Food Maize and Wheat Milling plant commissioning reflects the government’s commitment to indigenous economic empowerment and self-reliance, as Zimbabwe navigates its path towards prosperity under the Second Republic.

Carbon Dioxide Emissions : What Are The Effects?

World Meteorological Organization

This week’s #ClimateDictionary term is ‘Net Zero’.

Achieving net zero means balancing carbon dioxide emissions with removal efforts, like creating carbon sinks, to halt increases in greenhouse gas concentrations. Transitioning to net zero necessitates transforming energy, transportation, and production systems.

Zanu PF Goons Walk Scot-free After Killing Opposition Activist

By A Correspondent

In a chilling display of unequal justice, Zanu PF supporters implicated in the brutal killing of opposition activist Tinashe Chitsunge have reportedly been set free, sparking outrage and condemnation across Zimbabwe.

The stark disparity in treatment between political factions highlights deep-seated issues within the country’s judicial system and raises serious concerns about the rule of law.

The tragic incident, which occurred last year, saw Chitsunge, a dedicated member of the opposition, fall victim to violence allegedly perpetrated by Zanu PF loyalists.

Despite the heinous nature of the crime, those responsible have seemingly evaded accountability, prompting widespread disbelief and anger among Zimbabweans who demand justice and equality before the law.

Prominent opposition activist Stephen Sarkozy Chuma expressed his dismay over the apparent double standard, emphasizing the stark contrast in how individuals affiliated with Zanu PF and those associated with opposition movements are treated by the authorities.

Chuma’s statement encapsulates the frustration felt by many who perceive a systemic bias favoring the ruling party:

“Surely there is justice for ZANU PF and justice for opposition.”

The glaring inconsistency in the dispensation of justice is further underscored by past cases, such as that of Tungamirai Madzokere and Last Maengahama, who languished in Chikurubi Prison for over eight years on what they claimed were trumped-up charges related to the death of a police officer.

Their prolonged incarceration stands in stark contrast to the swift release of the alleged perpetrators in the Chitsunge case, casting a shadow of doubt on the impartiality and integrity of Zimbabwe’s legal system.

Chuma highlighted the glaring disparity, drawing attention to the stark contrast in treatment between opposition members and those affiliated with the ruling party:

“Tungamirai Madzokere and Last Maengahama spent more than 8 years at Chikurubi on false allegations that they killed a police officer. Now we hear 13 ZANU PF thugs who murdered Tinashe Chitsunge have already been freed.”

The implications of such unequal treatment extend far beyond the confines of individual cases, striking at the heart of Zimbabwe’s democracy and the principles of justice and accountability.

A judiciary perceived as biased or compromised erodes public trust and undermines the very foundations of a functioning society, fostering resentment, instability, and a culture of impunity.

Calls for reform and transparency within Zimbabwe’s legal apparatus are growing louder, with civil society organizations, human rights advocates, and concerned citizens demanding concrete action to address systemic flaws and ensure that the rule of law applies equally to all.

Without meaningful steps to rectify these injustices and uphold the principles of fairness and equality, Zimbabwe risks further erosion of its democratic institutions and the perpetuation of a cycle of impunity and injustice.

As Zimbabweans grapple with the sobering reality of unequal justice, the fate of Tinashe Chitsunge serves as a poignant reminder of the urgent need for reform and accountability.

Until justice is truly blind to political affiliation and status, the promise of a democratic and equitable Zimbabwe will remain elusive.

Mnangagwa Totally Forgets Mohadi’s Name

By A Correspondent

A recent video clip circulating on social media has sparked widespread reactions as Zimbabwe’s President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, appears to have committed a serious faux pas by forgetting the name of his own deputy, Kembo Mohadi, during a public event. The incident, which occurred in front of dignitaries, has not only raised eyebrows but also ignited discussions about leadership etiquette and unity efforts within the nation.

In the video, Mnangagwa can be seen struggling to recall Mohadi’s name, leading to an awkward moment as he attempts to address his deputy. Such a blunder on a public platform not only undermines Mohadi’s position but also reflects poorly on Mnangagwa’s leadership capabilities.

Furthermore, Mnangagwa’s attempt to speak Ndebele, a language spoken by the Ndebele people of Zimbabwe, as a means to portray himself as a unifying figure, also fell short of expectations.

His evident struggle with the language only added to the discomfort of the situation, highlighting the importance of authenticity and genuine efforts in fostering unity among diverse communities.

Adding insult to injury, Mnangagwa’s addressing of his Minister Kazembe Kazembe as a ‘boy’ has drawn sharp criticism from many quarters, with some interpreting it as a disrespectful gesture.

Such language not only diminishes the dignity of the individual addressed but also reflects poorly on Mnangagwa’s respect for his own government officials.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of leadership decorum and respect within the political sphere. Leaders must not only possess the ability to remember the names of their colleagues but also demonstrate humility, inclusivity, and respect for diversity.

In a country striving for unity and progress, such blunders only serve to erode public confidence and undermine efforts towards nation-building. Mnangagwa, as the head of state, must take heed of the reactions to this incident and work towards fostering an environment of mutual respect and understanding among all citizens, regardless of their background or position.

Ultimately, Mnangagwa’s memory mishap and linguistic struggles underscore the need for leaders to lead by example, showing empathy, humility, and inclusivity in their words and actions.

Only through genuine efforts to bridge divides and promote unity can Zimbabwe move forward towards a brighter and more prosperous future.

Zimbabwe Affected By New Australian Visa Regime

By Diplomatic Correspondent – Zimbabwe will likely be affected by the news visa and immigration laws the Australian government is set to implement.

As reported by Australia’s Herald Sun, among the countries under scrutiny for the visa ban are Iraq, Iran, South Sudan, and Russia.

This initiative coincides with a provision for a possible five-year incarceration term for asylum seekers who resist deportation following the exhaustion of all legal avenues.

The bill was tabled mere weeks before the High Court was scheduled to deliberate on a case involving an Iranian individual, identified as ASF17, who adamantly refuses repatriation to his homeland due to fears of persecution based on his sexual orientation.

The proposed legislation takes direct aim at nations deemed uncooperative in facilitating the return of their citizens who have been denied asylum in Australia.

These laws would empower Australia’s Home Affairs Minister, Clare O’Neil, with the authority to obstruct visa applications originating from countries that fail to comply with deportation mandates.

Meanwhile, Australia is cracking down on student visas in an effort to curb record-breaking immigration levels.

According to O’Neil, the stricter rules aim to ensure students come to Australia for genuine educational purposes and to reduce pressure on housing.
Additionally, the government will have the authority to suspend educational institutions that repeatedly violate visa regulations when enrolling international students.
“The actions this weekend will continue to drive migration levels down while delivering on our commitments in the migration strategy to fix the broken system we inherited,” the Home Affairs minister said in a statement.
A new “genuine student test” will be introduced to further crack down on international students who look to come to Australia primarily to work, while the imposition of “no further stay” conditions will be used on more visitor visas.
Recent data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed that its net immigration rose 60% to a record 548 800 in the year to September 30, 2023, higher than the 518 000 for the year ended June 2023. Newsday

Mnangagwa Smuggles Ghost Voters Into The Voters Roll

By Political Correspondent- The Zanu PF wants the old voter registration system abandoned ten years ago to return.

The old system, which saw ghost voters, was administered by Tobaiwa Mudede.

Zanu PF wants to transfer voter registration responsibility from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to the Civil Registry Department under the office of the Registrar General.
This move marks a return to the pre-2013 setup when the office led by Tobaiwa Mudede oversaw voter registration.

During this period, concerns arose over the presence of “ghost voters” on the electoral roll, with Mudede acknowledging difficulties in purging deceased individuals from the list.
Under the proposed revisions, an independent commission would assume delimitation duties currently handled by ZEC.
Justice, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi disclosed that these amendments were prompted by recommendations from Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislators in the Ninth Parliament, in anticipation of the 2023 general elections.
Minister Ziyambi explained that discussions during the Ninth Parliament highlighted the need for a revamped electoral process. He emphasized the efficiency of the proposed system, which would seamlessly integrate voter registration with the issuance of national identification cards, ensuring automatic updates to the voter roll upon individuals turning 18 or upon their demise.
Moreover, Minister Ziyambi dismissed claims that these changes were motivated by animosity towards Tobaiwa Mudede, referring to previous suggestions as the “Tobaiwa Mudede Amendment” which he deemed misdirected.
Concurrently, consultations are underway to amend the Constitution, enabling an independent commission to assume responsibility for electoral boundary demarcation.
This strategic restructuring aims to relieve ZEC of contentious tasks related to the voters’ roll and delimitation, allowing the commission to focus solely on administering elections.
